Scott’s not the jealous type. He’s not. In fact he thinks it’s a waste of time to be jealous. So why did he find himself on a Sunday night sitting on the avengers compound couch trying to block the image of you, (in that sparkling black dress that did your figure oh so well), hooked around Sam’s arm out of his head the whole night.
Honestly he wasn’t jealous, but rather more annoyed, is what he tried to convince himself. Just the timing from the get go was all wrong. This morning he was finally going to do it. He was finally going to confess to you that he may have…slight romantic feelings towards you. He wasn’t worried because honestly he had a feeling you felt the same way. I mean you two flirted constantly, at least he thought it was flirting. He was pretty sure it was flirting…great now he’s questioning himself. Either way, he was going to do it, but right as he was going to get the words out, here comes Bucky Barnes letting you both know that you were needed pronto.
The debrief was about going undercover as a couple to a fancy dinner party and gaining some intel.
It’s supposed to be a simple mission; get in, mingle, get info, then get out. The mission isn’t what’s bothering him, it’s the fact that you were partnered with someone else. You were partnered with Sam.
Sam’s a great guy, everyone loves Sam, but, when they first explained you were going on this mission, Scott automatically assumed that he’d be your partner, considering you two were usually paired together. But this time you weren’t.
Okay so maybe he was a tiny bit jealous. But can you blame him?
It only made it worse that he wasn’t there to see the night unfold and all he could do was have his mind run wild, imagining all sorts of things. He knows you can handle yourself but it’s just thoughts that’s killing him.
The night goes by.
Slowly.
It isn’t until midnight that he hears both of your voices back in the compound. He can hear you two chuckling as you enter the living area.
“Sounds like you two had a blast,” he points out, tone genuine.
“Honestly, yeah I surprisingly had a pretty fun night,” you shot a look towards Sam which didn’t go unnoticed by Scott. “Mission was successful but I’ll give you the details soon. Right now I need to get as far away from this uncomfortable dress as possible.”
“I’ll be waiting here,” he shouts after you, eyes not wanting to leave your frame even after you’ve turned the corner, out of sight.
The only thing that tore his eyes was the sound of a dish clanging against the counter followed by the word “S$&#!” Coming from the kitchen area.
He knew better than to bother the avenger he once battled with but curiosity got the better of him. Following the sound he popped into the kitchen, acting normal of course, or at least that’s what he convinced himself. In actuality he was very much acting suspiciously.
Grabbing a cup and pouring himself some juice he leaned against the counter and crossed his arm over his chest taking a sip from the cup before pointing in the direction of the doorway. “So tonight sounded fun…”
“Don’t even try tiny.”
Sam knew exactly what he was here for and he wasn’t going to give him any info.
“Right, of course not,” Scott said, clearing his throat and pushing his body off from the counter. Grabbing another cup and filling it up he returned back to his spot on the couch where he waited, taking the occasional sip here and there until you would eventually come out, in a typical t-shirt and sweatpants.
Easily spotting the drink you thank him and sit in the spot beside him, taking a sip from the cup.
“So tell me.”
“Tell you what?”
“Oh come on. Before going you were dreading the fancy-schmancy dinner vibe, what happened?”
“Nothing really, it was just a lot more fun than I expected.”
“Oh yeah, how?”
You shrugged your shoulders but he just jutted his head towards you, motioning for you to answer the question.
“Okay yes, I was dreading it and getting the intel was easy…”
Scott shifted in his spot crossing his legs on the couch showing you he was listening. “It was honestly boring and I wanted to leave like right away but Sam thought it would be cool to stick around and actually try enjoy the party. I’ve never been to a fancy party like that. The food was absolutely delicious, the building was gorgeous and I actually danced.”
Scott’s jaw dropped and his eyes widened, not even pretending to hold back his surprise. “No.”
“Yes…”
You went on about how surprised you were with how fun the party was and the good time you had. With each statement, Scott was adding another layer to the image in his head, imagining the scene unfold as he just continued to wish he was there with you.
Without realizing it, his face fell into a dazed appearance and for a little bit it seemed like you lost him.
“Sorry I’m probably boring you with all this.” you apologized, scratching your cheek and taking one more sip from your drink.
Scott seemed surprised before blinking his wide eyes and clicking his tongue. “No, not at all!”
He closes his lips and takes a tiny breath of air for confidence. “Not going to lie though I really wish it was me who was partnered up with you tonight.”
You grinned at his words before leaning closer to him in a hushed voice, “is it bad that I wished the same?”
Your grin only widened as he leaned closer, the distance from your face shortening. Despite the quickening of his own pulse he still breathed out, “new question, is it bad that I have feelings for you?”
You hid your surprise well, opting to melt on the inside having finally confirmed that he shared the same feelings for you. Despite what your insides felt you maintained your unfazed expression before you continued this twenty question game you two seemed to be doing, “is it bad that I want to kiss you?”
Which is when he responds, “is it bad that I want to kiss you?”
Okay you were officially done with this playful back and forth, opting to just go for it and smoothly leaned close pressing your lips into his, which he easily follows.

Halloween Prompts
Halloween Event Rules
The Avengers Campus was in full Halloween mode; decorations hanging from anywhere they could be hung, people being scared left, right and centre and some of the heroes were even dressed up. Now that's a sight you never thought you'd see!
You were laughing and joking with Tony, coming up with a few surprises for the party you were throwing later when you noticed Scott standing alone at the bar, twiddling his thumbs. You excused yourself and headed over to him, walking behind the bar and grabbing two glasses before pouring some whiskey.
"Tell me, Scott. What's a handsome guy like you doing moping around at a bar surrounded by the heroes of New York on Halloween, hmm?" You pushed the glass over to Scott which he immediately grabbed and downed in one.
He shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know, Y/N. I think it just reminds me of all the things that I've missed out on with Cassie. Taking her trick or treating, helping her pick her costumes. It's just something that I've always wanted to do with her, celebrating my favourite holiday." You walked back around the bar and swung a comforting arm around his shoulders, placing a soft kiss to the top of his head.
"I know you've missed out on a lot, honey. But you've also got so much to look forward to: Helping her pick the costumes of her kids, taking your grandkids trick or treating and you'll get to teach Cassie all of the greatest scary movies that have ever been made." He chuckled and places both of his hands on yours resting on the bar, intwining your fingers.
"See, baby. Don't be sad about what could have happened in the past, think about what could happen in the future." Scott looked up into your eyes and smiled. "What would I do without you talking sense?" "You'd probably have ended up back inside, or dead. Both are quite probable."
He laughed again and brought you in for a kiss, his hands resting on your shoulders. You sighed and sunk into the kiss, a wave of happiness and love travelling through you.
"Y/N if you've finished snogging Scott's face off, there's some more decorations that need to be hung." You broke away from the kiss and groaned, shooting daggers at Tony across the room. "Dammit Tony! You always do this!"
You looked at Scott and gave him one last kiss. "Horror marathon at my place later, you're bringing the candy. Deal?" Scott smiled and nodded. "Deal."

“Ok, your turn, Kill Bill. Two truths and a lie, go.” Tony says, referring to the fact that you fight with swords, making you roll your eyes before you join in on the laughter.
“Ok, uhm...” you try not to look at anyone so you don’t give away the answer “I have a teddy bear that I sleep with, I have bungee jumped from the top of the tower and I’ve never had a New Year’s kiss.”
You look back up to the room and wait for their guesses.
It’s a Friday night and the people that remained in the Tower for the holidays decided to have a little game night.
Every year the same people stay around, having nowhere in particular to go, and spend Christmas together.
Clint and Scott usually spend this time with their families, this year Thor decided to go to New Asgard with Bruce and Loki to visit Val and Korg, and Peter decided to spend it with aunt May and Happy.
You usually alternate between going to visit your family and staying in the tower each year, and this one was your turn to go to your first home.
You came back the day after Christmas, never being one to miss Tony’s New Year’s Eve party that’s gonna happen in two days now.
“Well, we know she has a teddy bear.” Wanda says.
“Do we know that?” Tony turns to you, narrowing his eyes. “Do you have one?”
“Yes, she does, we’ve seen it” Natasha answers for you while you glance at Bucky, praying he doesn’t put together that they’re talking about the teddy bear he gifted you for Valentine’s Day this year along with flowers.
Natasha and Wanda were more happy than you when you told them, sustaining that he did it because he liked you until you pointed out that he gave flowers to them too, because he’s sweet and a gentleman and that’s just who he is.
They wouldn’t let up on the fact that neither of them got a teddy bear though, and you would have agreed with them but Bucky never really did anything else about it so you decided to let it go and not read too much into it.
You're brought back to the present by Tony.
“Ok, so she has one. Then it’s gotta be the New Year’s kiss, everyone has had one at least once in their life,” he was looking at your reaction very closely while talking, but you did your best to keep an easy smile and not give anything away.
“Even Captain Virgin over there had one last year.” he adds vaguely waving towards Steve’s general direction.
You crack at the nickname and at the undignified sound Steve made while blushing and glancing at Nat that shared that kiss with him.
“Tony, there’s no way that she bungee jumped from the roof without us knowing, that’s gotta be the lie.” Sam interjects, also watching you closely for any signs of a reaction that you manage not to give.
“Alright, just take your guesses, people.” You say to the group.
“New Year’s Kiss.” Tony all but yelled, Natasha and Wanda agreeing with him.
“Bungee jump.” Sam says and Steve and Bucky agree, then they all seem to hold their breath as they wait for your answer.
It’s not a surprise that even these stupid little games cause a lot of competition amongst the team.
“Neither.”-you finally said and let out a laugh when they all groan in annoyance while taking their shots for guessing wrong.
“WAIT- you bungee jumped off the ROOF? When?!” Steve seems more concerned than anything.
“Well, you know a few months ago when we happened to all be on different missions at the same time?” They nod, not knowing where you're going with this “Clint and I came back first from ours, we were bored and there was no one around to stop us from doing anything stupid so…” you trail off, shrugging while laughing.
Steve looks shocked, Sam is laughing his ass off while Tony immediately goes to look for the security footage.
They all cheered while watching you throw yourself off the roof, Clint's yells and laughter could be heard, and then Steve shakes his head while joining you in the laughter when you see Clint take his turn and scream like a little girl while you fall to the ground laughing on the video.
Once you all composed yourselves, Tony pokes Wanda’s arm “I thought you said she had a teddy bear.” he's looking at her like she brought him on a treasure hunt and then betrayed him and left him for dead on a deserted island.
“She does! She got it from-” you interrupt her before she can finish the sentence, blushing a little and avoiding Bucky’s eyes.
“I do have a teddy bear, I just don’t sleep with it.” you say, shrugging.
“Oh, come on, that’s cheating!” Natasha whines.
“It’s really not, just because I do have one it doesn’t mean I didn’t tell a lie about it” you laugh at her pout.
“Wait a minute, so you’ve never had a New Year’s kiss?” Tony looks at you like you suddenly grew two heads.
“It’s not a big deal. Funny thing is, I have had boyfriends during New Year’s Eve, I just never happen to spend the day with them.” you say absentmindedly while thinking back at all the parties you’ve been to over the years to celebrate the new year.
“Really?” it's so quiet you almost missed it, your eyes snapping up to meet Bucky’s that were already looking at you.
“Is that so hard to believe?” The room seems to go quiet as everybody looks at you two, but you're too focused on each other to notice.
“I didn’t- I mean…” his cheeks started to turn a little pink as he seemed to have trouble finishing his sentence “It’s just you’re very pretty, who wouldn’t want to kiss you?”
You didn’t know what to say to that, you start blushing too while opening and closing your mouth a couple of times, looking like a damn fish.
You settle for a quiet ‘thank you’ with a smile that he shyly returns, neither of you noticing the glances passed by everyone else.
The whole team is convinced that there’s something between you and Bucky, but both of you always deny it and don’t seem to read too much into each other’s actions, always dismissing the glances and lingering touches as friendly affection even though you’re not really that close.
But really what else could it be?
The team lets the moment end and the game goes on, everyone keeps drinking and having fun until it gets really late and you all decide to call it a night.
Bucky goes to his bedroom and gets ready for sleep but he can’t seem to focus on anything else but you.
He really doesn’t understand how can anybody see your pretty self when you’ve just woken up, no makeup and your eyes full of sleep and not want to kiss you, let alone when you are all dolled up in a pretty golden dresses like you do every New Year’s.
Every year it gets harder for him not to just grab you and kiss you, hell every day is pretty much torture to see you around the Compound and not get to be with you the way he wants to.
But he has to keep his hands to himself because there’s no way you could actually like him like that.
He’s even tried to drop hints here and there like giving you the teddy bear for Valentine’s Day but, except for the cute shade of pink that your face turned, you still didn’t seem all that interested.
Still, that didn’t stop him from thinking what it would be like if you did like him and fantasize about being your first New Year’s kiss and maybe even your last first kiss.
At the same time you were in your own room getting ready for bed while your own thoughts kept going back to the moment you shared with Bucky in the living room.
You didn’t know if you were more embarrassed because you actually told the team you’ve never had a kiss on New Year’s Eve or happy because Bucky called you pretty.
If it was anyone else you wouldn’t even think twice about it, but coming from him it just felt like you were being complimented for the first time ever.
Everytime you thought about it you felt all warm and fuzzy inside, and at this point the moment was pretty much on loop in your mind.
The more you think about it the more you feel your face heat up, sleep not coming easily as you slip into Bucky filled dreams.
The next day everybody’s hanging out in the living room, most of them nursing a hangover from last night. You get ready for a last minute shopping trip to try and find a new dress for New Year’s Eve.
When you get to the living room you see Steve grinning at a disgruntled Tony, Wanda, Sam and Natasha who are obviously very hangover and nowhere near as amused as the blonde supersoldier.
Bucky’s attention is on you as soon as you're in his field of vision and no one fails to notice it, except you of course, your own attention on Wanda and Natasha sprawled on the couch.
“Well, I was gonna ask you if you wanted to come shopping with me,” you start watching from one to the other, as amused as Steve at everyone’s inability to contain themselves when drinking. “but I don’t think that’s happening.”
“Bite me, YLN.” Is all Nat says.
Wanda, on the other hand, is a little gentler. “I can come with you, if you want.” she says sweetly.
“That’s okay, Wands.” you smile at her “just rest and drink lots of water.”
You turn around, saying bye to everyone and making your way out. As soon as the doors of the elevator close, everyone turns to Bucky that's not even pretending not to be staring anymore.
Not that anyone could ignore the longing look on Bucky’s face as he watches you walk away.
“Buck,” Steve starts talking, glancing at everyone before setting his gaze back on his best friend. “we need to talk.”
“Okay…” he slowly drags out, unsure if he even wants Steve to keep going.
“Well, we’ve been noticing some things lately…” He’s unsure of how to say this. “Between you and Y/N.”
Bucky’s cheeks start to turn a slight shade of pink, but he’s still not sure where Steve’s going with this so he says nothing.
“So we thought” he gestures around at everybody. “that maybe we should-”
“We know you like her, and we want to help you get with her.” Tony interrupts Steve, quickly getting to the point.
At Steve’s glare, Tony merely raises his hands in surrender saying, “Listen, Capsicle, I’m way too hungover to take the panoramic route. Let’s just get this over with.”
“Yeah, Stark’s right.” Sam says, turning Bucky whose face is fully red now. “You have a weak ass game, man. Let us help you.”
They all look at the brunette supersoldier while waiting for his answer. He chews on his lip while looking at the expectant faces of his friends, before letting out a deep sigh.
“How would you even help me?” He says quietly, neither accepting nor denying their help just yet.
“Well, we know Y/N,” Wanda says.
“Yeah, we can tell you what turns her on.” Natasha smirked, before Wanda flicks her ear making her let out an ‘ow’ with a slight pout.
“What she means is,” she glares at Natasha “we can tell you what she likes, you know. Maybe help you get closer to her.”
Bucky shakes his head lightly “This is not a good idea. And it doesn’t even matter if she doesn’t like me.”
Wanda and Natasha seem to have a silent conversation, ending with Natasha raising her eyebrow at Wanda and Wanda just sighing with a soft ‘fine’.
“She does like you.” Wanda turns back to Bucky.
“She’s just convinced that you don’t like her like that.” Natasha says with a roll of her eyes.
Bucky still wasn’t completely convinced, but he agreed nonetheless. Maybe it was the glimmer of hope the girls gave him, but if there was even the slightest chance you could actually like him, he owed it to himself to try.
So he let the team make a plan to get you guys together, hoping to god he wouldn’t come to regret it.
You come home a few hours later, super excited to have found the perfect dress for the party the next night.
Bucky thought you were just so cute, all smiles and giggles.
Wanda and Nat talked you into having the last girls night of the year, although it didn’t really take much convincing.
And so the plan begins.
You’re relaxing on your bed, Wanda lying next to you, your head on her lap, and Nat sprawled on the love seat near the window close to your bed.
You’re wearing bathrobes, sheet masks on your faces as you watch a cheesy romcom that you’re so embarrassingly into you don’t even notice the girls exchange a look and nod at each other.
Wanda clears her throat and then begins talking, as casually as she can. “So, how come you never told us you never had a New Year’s kiss?”
They had to approach the subject somehow, right?
“I don’t know,” you say absentmindedly and then shrug, your attention still on the Tv. “didn’t think it was important.”
“Sure it isn’t.” Nat said, and her tone took your attention away from the movie for the first time since it started.
“What’s that supposed to mean, Tasha?” she simply shrugs, an innocent look in the face.
“It doesn’t mean anything” she says, her attention seemingly on the movie “I mean, if it doesn’t bother you, it doesn’t bother me.”
“Why would it bother me?” you frown, you don't understand what's so weird about this.
“Well, some people might find it a little…” Wanda trails off.
“Sad?” Natasha ends for her.
“It’s not like I’ve never kissed anyone.” you're starting to get a little defensive.
“We know that, sweetie.” Wanda coos, stroking your hair while you look up at her.
“We really didn’t mean anything by it.” Natasha ends, giving you an apologetic look.
“Yeah, whatever.” is all you say, and you turn your eyes back to the tv, your attention nowhere near it.
Natasha and Wanda can basically hear the gears turn in your head and give each other one last glance.
Part one of the plan is complete.
The next day goes through like usual, the team spending basically the whole morning together.
It’s a tradition, having the last breakfast of the year together, watching the last movie, having the last lunch and so on. Doing all the lasts together.
It’s silly, but it’s a tradition you've all come to be very fond of.
The afternoon comes and you and the girls spend it getting ready for the party, last night’s conversation almost forgotten.
Almost.
As you got to the party the music was deafening before you even stepped out of the elevator and, once you did, you were immediately immersed in a sea of perfume and cologne and, like every other Stark party extravaganza, you didn’t know about 98% of the people there.
You quickly find the team, as outgoing as most of them are, you usually spend most of the night together because it’s the last night of the year, last party and, again, it's your tradition.
You talk, you joke, you laugh but the more you drink the more you keep thinking about your conversation with the girls last night.
Was it really that sad that you’ve never started a new year with a kiss?
Midnight came sooner than you would’ve liked and your teammates decide to ask you a sobering question.
“So, who are you kissing?” Tony asks very casually.
You turn around confused, the team’s eyes all on you. “What are you talking about?”
“Oh, nobody told you?” Sam says, looking around him “We’re all kissing someone tonight.”
“I- You- What?” you glance towards Bucky so quickly he almost thought he imagined it.
“Well, Romanoff is kissing Rogers, I’m obviously kissing Pepper and Wanda is kissing Wilson.” Tony said, before specifying while pointing at the last two “As friends, obviously.”
“So, you’re all kissing someone?” You look at everyone except the one person you actually want to look at.
Something inside of you just believes that he would nod too and a beautiful woman that you could never compare to would appear at his side.
“Well,” Steve starts. “not all of us…”
He trails off and, following his gaze, you land on the very pair of blue eyes you were trying to avoid.
Suddenly everyone else scatters and it was just you and Bucky. You don't know what to say, but you feel like you can't look away from him now.
What the hell is happening to you?
You’re talking before you can even stop yourself “You know, we could also kiss. As friends.” you add, realizing what you just said, your eyes wide with your own surprise.
He’s about to say something, but you don’t give him a chance to get a sound out before you’re backtracking so fast you might actually fall out the window.
“You don’t have to. Obviously. It’s not like I’d make you.” you chuckled awkwardly, but you can’t stop yourself from rambling “Unless you wanted to. But why would you want to? It’s not like you’re missing anything. I’m not anything special.”
You can hear the countdown starting, but it sounds distant to your ears as your heart pounds faster. “I mean, I’m sure you’re a good kisser. Why wouldn’t you be? Not that you’re like a lady’s man.”
Bucky glances around him, the team giving him encouraging looks as they near zero and you just keep going “But like you were, you know. Not that it’s a bad thi-”
You're thankfully interrupted abruptly by Bucky’s lips on yours just as everyone yells ‘Happy New Year’ and gold and black confetti starts falling down on you.
You can't even begin to comprehend what's happening but your body does, kissing him back almost immediately.
It feels like forever and also too soon when he pulls away, you can't even hearing the chaos around you anymore.
All that exists is you and Bucky and his eyes and his arms around your waist and yours around his neck and his lips that you wanted to kiss again and kiss forever and never stop.
“You have no idea how long I’ve been wanting to do that” he says after a few seconds. Or maybe days. Weeks? Hours? It doesn’t matter.
All that matters is the bright smile he gives you when you say “Me too.”
He kisses you again, but this time the spell is broken by the team’s whistles and cheers.
When you pull away you’re both blushing a little, you glance around you and see all the smug faces of the idiots you love to death, Bucky’s attention never leaving you.
“And by the way,” Bucky says, gaining your attention once more. “you have more qualities than you think,” he then pointed at your chest “You have this.”
You looked down to where he was pointing before saying “I do have great tits, yes.”
When you looked back at him he was blushing even harder and looked like he was having a hard time maintaining eye contact, while you were more relaxed now that the kiss took away all the awkwardness, but trying hard not to laugh.
“... I meant heart” he said after a few moments of silence.
“Either or.” you answered, shrugging and when you heard the snickers of the team around you, you couldn’t help but join them, followed by a still blushing Bucky.
Yep, this year is definitely gonna be an interesting one.

this has to be perfect!
fluffy birthday fic
*not my gif*
Tumblr media
bucky didn't like to celebrate his birthday. all those years in and out of cryo, he just felt like it didn't mean much anymore. besides, he didn't need some crazy celebration. all he wanted was you.
but that didn't stop you from planning a surprise party. sam was in on it too of course. "do i get to do the message on the cake?" he asked a little too enthusiastically.
"absolutely not," you gave him a stern look. "but it'd be a big help if you put the helium in those balloons." you waved towards the big helium tank. sam smirked and got to work immediately.
it was a full proof plan. all you had to do was make sure bucky didn't suspect a thing.
bucky had received a text the night before as the two of you were lying on the couch. "steve wants to go for a run and get a coffee in the morning." he said.
you nodded and tried to hide your smile, "really? that's great! you should go!"
yup. totally not suspicious.
you kissed him before he left the next morning and made sure to wish him a happy birthday. you ignored the eye roll he gave you.
and you were running out of time. "okay people," you clapped your hands. "sam, don't forget the ribbons on the ends of those balloons."
steve had kept him busy for a couple of hours, but he'd already sent you a couple texts about bucky wanting to get back. he was officially running out of excuses.
sam only nodded in response which made you arch a brow, but your attention was quickly diverted when scott knocked over the pile of presents. "sorry!" you ran over to help him pick them up.
"i was just making the card and i didn't know if i should write 'happy birthday, buddy' or just 'happy birthday dude', cause you know...we don't know each other that well and i don't want him to feel awkward-" he began to ramble but was quickly interrupted by nat who tapped you on the shoulder.
you turned to her and she shrugged, "record players not working." your face dropped, "no no no no! please," you ran over to it and tried to clean it, turn it off and back on, whatever you could do. "this has to be perfect!" you begged the device.
"is this a bad time?" a sokovian accent asked softly. you looked over at wanda, who was wearing an apron that read 'my kitchen my rules', with a dispirited expression.
you could tell she had bad news so you waited to hear it. she grimaced, "the cake batter is taking a little longer to brown than expected."
you nodded and pursed your lips.
"that's fine! i'm sure steve can keep him busy for a little longer" you tried to keep it together, but then you heard keys turning in the door.
SHIT!
you waved everyone back to their stations and rushed to the door. you pushed your way through it, causing bucky and steve to take a step back. "bucky!" you said excitedly, but he could tell you were on edge.
you wrapped your arms around his neck and at first it was to keep him distracted out there, but suddenly you just melted. it turned out a hug was exactly what you needed.
you were finally able to take a deep breath. you pulled away from him and grabbed his hand with a smile. "come with me," you said before leading him into the apartment.
"surprise!" everyone shouted. sam didn't notice the two of you walking in, so he turned around late and yelled out a very high pitched, "surprise!"
you couldn't help but laugh.
bucky was smiling too as he looked around the room, but he turned to you with confusion etched across his features. "what's all this about?"
"it's your birthday!" you said as if it was obvious.
"i know, i just mean...you didn't have to go through the trouble. it's just a birthday," he shook his head.
your heart ached for the man who'd been through lifetimes of pain, "james. listen to me. i love you and celebrating the day that you were born is important to me, because i couldn't imagine life without you."
his grinned and looked into your eyes sincerely, "i love you too, doll."
and for a moment it was as if you were the only ones in that apartment, face to face and full of joy.
until scott walked over, "sorry if i'm ruining a moment or something. just wanted to give you this," he winked. he handed bucky a card with a hand drawn portrait of himself and bucky side hugging.
at the top it read, "happy birthday bestie!"

----
The daylights were in full swing, the radio was high and bright as he drove down the road to a old house he used to call home. At the steps of the house stood a man he hasn't seen in the late 80s but never forgotten.
Above the steps stood the man with dark rich blonde curls spiked in a nicely manner, a blue colored shirt and black James Dean jeans wearing a pair of shades himself. He sipping on a cup of coffee with a half smile to boot.
He parked the car in the east side of the parkway as he existed the vehicle, flipping the keys in hand and removed his sunglasses with a smile.
As he took towards the step he heard the man said, "Hank."
"JJ." He replied, as he was handed a cup of warm coffee.
"What was the reason for this visit?"
"You got my email didn't you?"
"Yup."
"You missed seeing Hope."
"It was an 8 hour drive! You know how hard it was to get out of that house without Felton and Rei breathing down my neck?"
"This is why I stopped babysitting."
The blonde just playfully glared following the older one into his old home. Jason hasn't been in this house of his in more than a century, having took time to take care of his older one in Malibu. Yet, he never had the heart to throw away the keys, so instead he gave them to Hank. And by god, was he glad he did.
His old home was kept nice and cleaned, some mess here and there. A few dust particles in certain smaller areas but other than that it was fine. Keeping its cozy yet vintage style. Hank sat down on the grey couch that used to be a dark brown, sipping his second morning coffee taking in the moment of peace. Jason sat in the armchair beside him closing his eyes.
Neither man had to say a word to know that they missed the peace and quiet this house brought. No screaming children, calls from SHIELD, nor nagging neighbors trying to get you to babysit their dumb dog for the weekend. Just a moment of total silence from the world around them.
Yes, truth be told, after 1989 Hank was never seen again towards SHIELD's main offices due to his stupid fallout with Howard and the others. But he often kept in touch with people like him or Peggy, whenever possible. Mainly because Hope wanted to see her aunts and uncles, and after Janet's passing Hank couldn't deprive his daughter from not having any closer family or friends around.
Jason tended to be his go-to person whenever he needed a quick babysitter for Hope, whenever the blonde was in town and he happily said yes. He first thought Hank would want nothing to do with him after what Howard pulled on the man, but after a small debate on that very day both men realized they couldn't hold grudges against each other.
They already had too many grudges over their heads to even count, why add another? It would only lead to a bigger headache anyways.
So over the years, Hank and Jason would put aside a small time to check in on one another. Make sure the other man wasn't dead yet. It was a running joke on who would die first out of the two. But at this rate, knowing the people in their lives, they won't let them get bury in the ground so easily.
Yet.
He peaked an eye open as he rested his head and asked, "JJ? You got what I sent you?"
The others eyes were still closed as he hummed, "Yeah. I sent the small package and if I'm correct, it will be brought though word of mouth soon enough."
"Good. I hope this guys is worth it. If he's smart enough, he will do as I planned."
"Why Scott Lang anyway? I gave you a list of people you can choose from and you chose him..."
"Scott Lang broke into Vistacorp Headquarters to pay back the money VistaCorp had been stealing from their users, before he brought into prison. Heard of it?"
"Yeah, he pulled strong a stunt risking to pay back all that money they took. According to the file, he has a master degree in electrical engineering, which gave him the skills to hack into their grid."
Hank smirked, "That's why I need him. He has a special set of skills as a hacker and thief. I want to test him, see if he's able to play the game right."
"If he can break into the lock and steal the suit, then he was a right fit." Jason added with a grin, "..he also has a daughter Hank. You know better than anyone the length you would go to see your kid. Chances are, he ends up in jail again."
"He won't."
"Hank."
"I have a plan. Trust me on this one."
"And I'll be here to say 'I told you so' when it goes sideways."
The two crack a chuckle knowing it was bound to happen whether they liked it or not. But if the plan does end up going sideways, they always had other ways of doing things. Even if it meant going undercover to bait Scott Lang into the older man's plan. Both spent the rest of the day catching up, watching some tv and grabbing a bite to eat.
None of the Young Avengers knew that Jason was gone for a short couple of days. Well, some of them noticed as he has been receiving calls from a few thought the day. Mainly ones from Rei, Liane, Rochelle, Ji-Hoon, Lydia and even Wanda. Hank commented how he was still amazed he hasn't lost his head yet.
"Who said I haven't?" Jason joked with a small chuckle.
"Who's watching them?" He asked in returning smiling.
"Elizabeth, Nat and Bruce. I hope."
"Oh dear god. Now, I gotta know, who's the hardest to watch over?"
"Depends on the day. Rei is the easiest at most, Rochelle is rather shy and hangs out with her friends..but Liane.."
"Felton's what? Oh. You can't lie to me, and not say Rei Stark doesn't turn your gears one bit."
"Rei does make me question my life choices, but I love him to death. Felton, she is a handful and a total bitch at times. It's why I always hand her off to Hill to taken care of. I need my silence."
That caused Hank to snort and laugh. He knew the man was too polite to say anything to harsh per say, not knowing who's around to hear him but if possible he will let a rip.
"Now that's the Jason I know, call it how it is!" He shouted as he tossed a chip into his mouth, "Half of them ain't even your kids."
The blonde smirked nodding, knowing the grey man's words to be truth. There are good couple of them aren't his legally or even raised them from childhood, but a part of him does care. Even if he wants to shut up half the time.
Hell, even the ants joined in on the fun. They are 247 of them after all, the ants were bound to make their appearance in carrying items around and or, helping them with alerting any incoming news on the heist they were waiting to happen.
--------
------------
Later on, that very night they went to the basement as they turned on the lights to reveal a high tech level of security cameras, microphones and chairs laying around. It was linked up to whatever humanity possible can find, in this case, the ants.
They watched Scott break into his house, as Hank seemed impressed by his work giving Jason a couple of approved nods, as they kept rolling the tape. The handy work, the levels of patience and precision Scott Lang had was amazing. His quick thinking and ways he moved around the area at quick speed was something he could only imagine to do when he was back in the 40s. Hank used to think and move that fast in the late 80s. More or less.
Without a better matter of minutes he took the suit and ran. They spend the better part of the next day, watching Scott and see what he would do.
That he was expandable. And that he was. Jason chocked out a laugh at how freaked out he was as Hank talked into the coms. Sadly of course, the moment he returned the suit, he was caught red handed by the cops.
It was Hope's doing. She didn't know much about the man or the fact that he had a track record he was trying to maintain. Which led Hank to toss a pair of suits over to Jason, telling him it's time to lawyer up, as the man rolled his eyes at his friend.
Once they were in the prison, Scott Lang was brought into a room confused more the most part, not understanding who they were. He didn't know about the fact that he had a lawyer watching after him. They told him second chances don't always come easily, especially for men like him, next time he gets one, he should take a closer look onto what it is. And he's smart enough, he will listen to them.
Thankfully he did, as Hank ordered the ants to get Scott escape the jail cell and be brought home that night. However the man got dizzy and past out, resulting him to be knocked out cold in one the guest bedrooms of the house.
Hank's house, since he had more tech and landscape to work around than Jason did. As they waited for him to wake up, the blonde went out grab some more supplies and food. He was hungry.
When he returned home with the items needed, entering quietly through the front door he heard it. Hope was here. He should've known she would've made an appearance at some point.
Tumblr media
"Please tell me you didn't call JJ." She said looking at her father with her arms crossed.
"I didn't call JJ." Her father responded with a sigh, trying to enjoy his tea.
"He is busy right now."
"I didn't call him."
She pointed to the brown leather jacket that was on the chair beside her. The one she gave the blonde years ago for a birthday present when she was in high school. Her father said he was borrowing it from the man's closet when he went to check on his home.
"You liar. Like always. Just say that you did." Hope remarked.
Hank groaned, "I emailed him."
"You tipped him. Dragging his ass here, for what? I can handle the mission myself!"
"No, you can't! He needed one-"
"You never listen to me!"
"Hope!"
She looked over her shoulder at face the voice who called out her name like an old memory. Only to find her uncle standing there with a stern look on his face, his usual cheeky grin was exchanged for a pair of lined smile and frustrated eyes that glared into her soul. He made her feel like a child again, getting in trouble for yelling at her father or running away from school grounds to play with her friends.
She looked down, feeling less than, muttering a soft 'sorry' in his direction as he simply nodded. He shook his head and sighed at his niece. He hated seeing them fight, he knew they had their reasons but she walked away a long time ago, just to prove a point to her father that she was worth it. And she already was.
"I didn't know..I uh, would've liked a heads up that you were coming..." She admitted for being silent for a moment.
He placed the bag of groceries on the table as he gave her a small half smile, "I know..but I knew you would've said otherwise and convince me to stay home."
"You don't have to be here. I can handle this."
"I know. But I'm here now, it's not like I'm going to waste a long drive just to be stuck at home listening to ABBA on the radio."
"Still. You should've-"
"Hope. Just don't. What's done is done. I came at my own risk and I won't be staying long, just to make sure a few things are in check."
"..I uh, I missed you."
"I did too."
She pulled her arms out to be taking in by his embrace. The warmth of his hugs always felt like a nice blanket as he wrapped her arms around him and kissed her forehead. She rested her head against his shoulder having another moment of silence to relax, sending a small glare to her father. She chuckled hearing her uncle brought her favorite ice cream from Basin Robins to help ease the tension, causing a tiny grunt from Hank. Her uncle smirked and told her to get Scott as she pulled away with a small smile.
When Hope walked out, he turned around to see his old friend sending daggers swords him. Jason just shrugged, "What?"
"You can't win her over with ice cream and hugs." He remarked.
"Yes I can. That's my job as the uncle. Make you look bad, so you want to work harder for her affection."
"That's not how it's supposed to work."
"That's exactly how it's supposed to work."
Soon enough, Scott and Hope joined them in the dinning room, as they talked trying to explain the situation to the confused brunette. Hope and Hank bricked as they did, as Jason tried to defuse the issue at hand introducing the trio. Scott listened along, trying to piece together everything they said, hearing how they were impressed with his work as well. He was offered some sugar, watching the ants push it around.
"H-how do you make them do that?" Scott asked pointing to the said ants, watching one climb onto Jason's finger with ease.
"Ants can lift objects 50 times their size. They can build farms. Corporate with each other." Hank explained.
"Right. But how do you make them do that?"
"I used electromagnetic waves to stimulate their factor's nerves center using a device. I speak to the Ants. I can go anywhere, see everything and hear everything."
"And still know absolutely nothing. I'm late for a meeting." Hope injects with a clear tone, pressing a kiss to her uncles cheek and a nod to her father.
"Be safe!" Jason calls out with a half smile, sipping his tea.
"Always am!"
With that she walks out. Scott raised an hand asking who the hell they are, what the hell is going on and if he could back to jail. Jason rolled his eyes telling both men to follow him.
Tumblr media
They walked and talked heading down to the basement to reveal a small headquarters as Scott looked around in awe. Hank explained the suit and his role in this as Jason finished setting up a few things adding in a jab or two as he went along.
"Pym tech? SHIELD?" Scott said muttering under his breathe as he followed their voices.
"Darren Cross had heard rumors around the Pym Particles. Something that both companies tried to keep under lock and key, with only a few knowing it existed." Jason explained.
"And he became obsessed with recreating my formula." Hank continued to explain holding a vial of Pym particles, "But I wouldn't help. So he partially voted me out of my own company. Hope was chairmen of the board, so that helped. But she came back to me when she saw how close he was with his process. But without a suit, the brain isn't protected."
"Causing a fiery sensational effect that can make the brain unstable. And Cross hasn't realized that part yet. So with our luck, he'll die."
"Be nice, JJ. Cross isn't the most stable guy to begin with."
Scott listen then asked, "So what do you want from me?"
Both men exchange a look as Hank walked over to Scott Lang and told him he believed in second chances for everyone. A redemption. Saying that if he does that, he can start a new path and get some insight wiped off his records. Scott looked pleased declaring that he will go along with the plan of theirs. Within a couple of hours, they all got to work.
Scott began to start training how to use the suit, understanding the plan and communicating with the idea on how to get into the building. He got learn about the concept of the ants and their behavior in the process of the world. Hope and Jason offered to teach Scott some fighting techniques to help him later on. Hope smirked getting a good swing at Scott punching him hard enough he fell backwards, as Jason snorted at their dynamic play between the tackles to the ground.
———-
—————
It got to a certain point where Scott was given the opportunity to learn how to control the ants. Hank acted as director for him, telling him to focus having faith that he can do it. Scott tried but it didn’t work. Hope groan annoyed telling him how he needed to commit to communicating with them, he has to mean it. The father daughter duo, once again began to argue over the subject. Jason reminded them on how the focus should be on helping Scott with the trails.
“Really? That’s where our focus should be?” Hope said, taking the device used for the ants and held it close to her ear controlling to do more than just add sugar to the tea. She caused to room to darken as the ants blocked out the lights, Hank caught her before she can act by further. Her voice broke as she muttered a few words at her father and sighed before exiting the room.
Hank knew he couldn’t do it without her. Since day one she has requested to be put in the suit, do the trails and get the mission accomplished herself, but her father refused every request she made. Jason knew the reason why. Scott noticed the problem being a father himself and went out to talk to her, hoping to knock some sense into Hope and have her see behind the act.
The two were alone in the house, standing in awkward silence as the moment of Hope’s departure replayed in their heads. Hank walked around the first floor, fumbling with a small piece of dice he found in the living room as Jason watched from the window the car sitting in the driveway with the two figures talking inside.
He broke the silence with a scoff, biting in the inside of his cheek as he said, “You have to tell her.”
“No.” He muttered in response, knowing exactly what he meant by those words.
“If you want her on your side, you have to break the ice here. She knows Janet didn’t die cause of some accident involving a plane. I know it’s painful for you, Hank, but she deserves to know.”
“Like you told Stark about his parents death.”
That silence Jason quicker than expected. He remembered how Howard and Maria died, when he was at his lowest moments during the holiday season. He told Tony what he knew and what he only could’ve revealed of that painful memory, going as far as to show him the photographs he dug up a few days later from news reports. Hank might’ve had a falling out with Howard but he was at the damn funeral for a short period of time before returning home.
Hank knew he hit a nerve and continued, “You couldn’t even wrap your head around fact that you lost them. Worse, telling a child their mother died and they never had the chance to say goodbye. I lost Janet that day because of my misfortunes during the mission.”
“I know, I heard the story. I can only imagine how you felt when it happened, when she shrunk down to that size..” Jason added trying to find his voice again.
“Please, don’t remind me, Jason, she went sub-atomic...”
“And you tried to get her back by studying for weeks on an answer to get her back”
“I made a mistake letting her come with me..I was stupid enough to let that happen..you know how hard it is for me just to relive that experience again…Hope might hate me when she finds out..”
“I know, she might but she will forgive you…Hank..you and I have made a lot mistakes in the past 3 decades. We made decisions that we aren’t proud of..thinking we are protecting them from harm..”
“That’s the whole point! That’s our job, to keep them safe and not be heartbroken by the truth. You only gave Stark the benefit of the doubt about his parents death and how it affected the outcome, you said he hated the world for it..I can’t tell her..we have secrets for a reason..”
“Yeah well, Tony could care less about his father…How about you only tell her what you can? When the time comes where she asks for more, you go into more detail about what happened. You are driving her away now…I know you hate the looks she gives you. You said it yourself..”
There was an unspoken number of casualties among those accidents that occurred during the death of their loved ones. Only so much information, they kept closed to their chest to prevent others suffering in those moments. The amount of consequences to their loved ones being gone felt like a huge blow to the head and stuffed around in secret.
Hank knew that, especially with the fact that his very friend lost more than he can chew.
He felt sorry for bringing it up, but it just didn’t occur to him the words would impact that hard. Hell, the memories of his wife were still so fresh in his brain like it was yesterday.
Hank ran a couple of fingers cross his hair muttering, “Sorry for bringing that up. It’s just…”
“I know..I know. But you do need to let her know what happened that day.” Jason responded taking a breath to regain himself.
That was when Hope and Scott returned from the car, about to say something but was cut off by Hank’s statement. He had a hand against the fireplace beforehand turning around to face the two of them, to face his daughter with the truthful remarks she desires to know. He slowly but surely explained what he could to his daughter onto what happened to her mother as her voice broke mumbling a few questions.
He did in best to answer them. It hurt to talk about it, as it felt like he was reliving the same day all over again. She wanted to know more but her thoughts didn’t seem to allow her to think straight as she teared up even more. Hank just told her in the end he lost her mother, he didn’t mean to lose his daughter too.
Scott ruined the moment with a quippy response that caused Jason to roll his eyes, telling him to go make some tea. Afterwards the four of them got back to work on training Scott and working with the plans they had in motion.
———-
At some point, Jason went upstairs to get something to eat and suddenly got another set of calls. He sighed deeply knowing they must've been from Liane or Rei, he ignored knowing it was probably something they could've handle themselves. They had to learn how to get along and figure out solutions to things without an actual adult fixing it entirely for them.
With a deep sigh he answered, “Hello?”
“Jason! Aha we might got an issue at the compound—dude shut up!” Said the voice that clearly belonged to Liane.
“Okay, who burnt the toaster again? Wait why are you at The Compound anyway? Your supposed to be at The Tower..”
“The adults went out on a small scale meeting, so we were left alone. Long story short, we had an incident at The Tower and decided to visit The Compound for breakfast instead—Ughhh Rei be quiet! Rick calm it’s gonna be fine—I was saying, we came here and Sam made us breakfast…and then..”
“Then what? Liane spit it out or put Rei on the phone.”
“Then we saw an issue and Sam told us to stay inside.”
Just as Liane and Rei’s voices were heard, along with the other members in the background, Jason was called downstairs by Hank to check on something. And let’s just say, he wanted to punch the older man for his actions. From the panels on the screen, shots of Scott fighting The Falcon to get inside Avengers Compound. Hope half smiled, annoyed and confused by Scott’s actions.
Tumblr media
It was honestly hilarious yet stressful.
He put the phone call on mute as he whispered, “Hank, what the hell?! You said that the item you were looking for was at an old building, not Avengers Compound!”
“I didn’t know that it was remodeled after all this time! You could’ve said something.” Hank remarked looking up at the blonde from his seat.
“You weren’t speaking of the specifics either! Oh god..Scott better get out of there.”
“He’ll be fine. Besides he’s fighting an Avenger, this can be taken as part of his training for the next assignment. What are you worried about?”
“Half of the other avengers are inside the building now and they’re a little terrified.”
Hope said an eyebrow confused onto what her uncle meant until she heard the voices over the phone and almost immediately laughed at the sound.
She couldn’t make out the voices very well but one caught her ears as she asked, “Is that Felton? Since when is she freaked out over something like this, isn’t she an Avenger?”
Jason just shrugged at this point and responded, “It’s a great mystery to all of this. And yes that was her. I can already picture Rei’s annoyed expressions. Whatever we do, we just have to get Scott out there and fast.”
“Or they might call the other heroes for assistance. Damn it.”
“Days like this, I wish my retirement plan was completely different.”
“You can always come stay with me instead. Wait, I’m still in the Will right?”
He winked at her meaning a clear ‘yes you are, honey.’ As they both returned their focus back onto the screen watching Hank navigate Scott across the field to fight Falcon, suddenly they lost visual contact with him as the ants couldn’t see what was happening inside. It went silent as the only sound came from the cell phone in Jason’s hand.
He raised the phone up his ear to respond, “Whatever happens stay instead. I’ll be there in a couple of hours to check up on—”
“About time you picked up the damn phone!” Yelled the voice that belonged to his first godson.
“Rei?! What happened to Liane?”
“I took it off her hands, she went to help calm Rick and the others down or whatever. I really don’t care. Do I have permission to take her down Felton and shut off the systems?”
“Permission granted—wait, hold off on shutting down the systems for a few minutes and then reboot The Compound.”
“Does that mean I’m in charge of everything?”
“Does it mean the house won’t be fire when I come over to check on you guys?”
“Yes sir.”
“Then you’re in charge. And please get a hold of an adult!”
The phone called ended with Rei’s voice being heard over the speaker as you can imagine the others not sounding too pleased about the news. Jason just smirked already picturing their faces as he watched the panels of Scott escaping and Falcon on the floor. Him and Hank fist bump at the process of the mission turning out decently well.
He knew Hank was gonna have a talk with Scott on his actions and how he handled it, but Jason knew based on the files that Scott must’ve gotten the item needed for the job.
And he was right.
Hope was very impressed with what he did as her father sighed in relief at the assignment being completed. Scott Lang had skills and knowledge to be used on a battlefield one day, possibly even a hero. The four of them talked about upcoming events that were set in motion as Jason texted his nephew for updates on the situation from earlier as it seemed like things have calmed down over there.
He will need to drive over there to check up on them later.
As of now, all he knew is that the four of them were headed into a very dangerous environment within the incoming hours. Especially after Darren Cross’s appearance at the household, assuming he was just speaking with Hank Pym, as the others were silently standing in the kitchen.
The next couple of hours were gonna be a wild ride.

Revenge Of The Egg
Tumblr media
Scott Lang x reader
Words: 250
Number 4: “Want to help egg my ex’s house?”
Authors note: Heehee it’s not the exact line but same vibes
Tumblr media
“Hmmm,” you breathed out, sinking your body deeper into your spot on the couch while simultaneously having Scott’s arm around you.
It was practically a lazy Sunday with you two really doing nothing all day except for watching tv, blasting some tunes, and relaxing. But there’s only so much of doing nothing you can do until it gets boring.
You breathed out another sigh before exclaiming, “I’m bored,” catching Scott’s attention.
“We could go to the movies?”
You shook your head at his proposal.
“We could go out to eat?”
Again another denial came from you. And you heard a, hmm, emit from him. “We could egg my ex’s house.”
You frowned, “it’s not Halloween. Plus wouldn’t Maggie be mad? And what’s gonna happen if they see us?”
He shrugged his lips curving down for a moment, “they’re not gonna see us. And it’s really Paxton’s house, and I don’t really care about that guy.”
You let out a chuckle and shook your head at the thought.
“Oh come on. It could be fun…” he teased with a nudge nudge.
“No, it’s too mean…”
You two sat there for a moment, with just the background noises being heard until you finally said, “just one egg, and we’re not going to break anything.”
“I’ll grab the keys!” He exclaimed a little too excited, while moving his arm and immediately hopping off the couch. You watched from your spot as he ran off and you couldn’t help but laugh at his demeanor.

The way Icarus dreamt of flight doesn't even come close to rivaling the way I dream of him. I can still feel the touch of his hands on the cold of my skin, fingertips warming trails like tepid wax down the plains of my neck, dripping from the hallows of my collarbones and down my chest like a whisper.
He first came to me in glimpses, blurry and burned around the edges. Teasing my senses, never allowing me to catch more than just a piece or two before he faded away again, my heart leaping from my chest and jolting me awake. I guess, over all of these years, I still haven't been able to piece a full picture of him together in my mind.
He has been visiting my dreams since I was sixteen. He's always been there, in my mind's eye as I drift each night; his presence, his touch. Then, slow and treacherous, fragments started breaking through the darkness of my mind. Every image, sound, scrape of skin against mine seemed to disappear upon awaking, but as the years passed, they lingered like tart whiskey and the stench of cherry cigars.
I remember the first time I saw something I could recall about him for more than a few minutes upon waking; the color of his eyes, ocean salt blue and trench deep. I began seeing that color everywhere, in the depths of the sky and the cold water beneath my feet as I sat on the bank of the creek listening to the songs of sparrows.
The color was the only thing that stuck with me for three years; over the time I collected a list of items in the same color, pieces of him that snuck into the real world. Bluebells and feathers, trinkets from nature. I saw it in the jack of my playing cards and the paint of my neighbors truck. I felt like the color was surrounding me, and I welcomed it because I craved him, devouring each sliver I could find, worried that if I continued to let him slip through my fingers I'd never have a complete picture.
The next time I saw something I could remember, I was nineteen. Bloodied hands never left my brain. The image haunted me like an apparition. The way the crimson leaked down his palms made my stomach twist, queasy and aching. The way his veins bulged beneath his pale skin and the callouses marking themselves over experienced hands. The fact that his hands never quite matched each other, like they weren't both flesh and blood made my stomach turn.
I vomited the morning after that dream.
Today I am twenty six and the broken images of him still leak though my subconscious into my conscious mind, interrupting my work day. Sometimes I can smell the strong scent of his cologne in the air, or feel the brush of his fingertips on my skin, up and down my arm. I try to push all the thoughts away, turning back to the files set out on my desk. I scan over the lines again and again but none of the words seem to stick in my head and at this rate, if I can't finish payroll I'm screwed.
Yet, the only thing I can think of is the bit I saw of him last night, a new bit this time. The faintest five o'clock shadow surrounding desert rose brushed lips. I can almost remember him speaking to me, and the way his tongue would dart out of his mouth to run over his bottom lip, but all of the details are much too disjointed and blurry.
Most of the encounters I have of him are lovely. Going to sleep and dreaming of him, his hands, his touch, the feeling of occupying the same space; it feels like coming home. He never ages, and the changes that come are small, few and far between.
He seems to be a combination of both hell and heaven and I am painfully torn between them, the waking hours like hell with the inability to conjure up his image or the feeling of his presence, body pressed up against my own- but at night, whether it be called a dream or heaven, he is there in front of me, and I don't need to see him to know the way me soul yearns for him.
Lately, he has been coming in flashes- even while I am awake. I can see the the crinkle of skin around the corner of his eyes when he squints. I get hit with whiffs of cologne and the smell of conditioned leather. I feel a cold finger run it's way down the side of my arm, from shoulder to elbow; the whole ordeal making my hair stand on end, goosebumps encapsulating my skin.
The shrill ringing of the phone manages to pull me from my thoughts, I clear my throat before answering. "Hello, thank you for calling Charred Ambrosia, how can I help you?" I ask over the loud music that is rumbling through the walls.  Seven in the evening on a Thursday night and people are already starting their weekend off at the bar, my bar.
"Hey, Scooter, is that you?" A smooth voice asks through the crackling of the land line. I grimace at the nickname but a smile still tugs at the corner of my lips. I've always hated the fact that I like the nickname, but I could never tell Scott that I do in fact like it- couldn't give him the satisfaction of knowing.
"Hello, Scott, yeah, it's me. What's up?" I question, pulling the coils of the phone cord through my fingers, letting each one of them bounce carefully through my fingertips.
"You keeping busy tonight, or do a few friends need to stop by to keep you company?" He jests, I can hear the joy leaking through the line. I roll my eyes, though he can't see.
"We are plenty busy, thank you very much. But I wouldn't say no to seeing you, or your friends, you know that," I inform him, closing the paperwork in front of me. I slap the pen on top of the files, creating a problem for future me.
"Happy to hear it, Scooter, because some new work friends and I are on the way over right now. You better be behind the bar when we get there!" The line goes dead and I can't help but laugh before setting down the receiver. I head out of the office and head back behind the bar, attempting to make myself as busy as possible as I wait for Scott and his buddies to get in.
After a handful of checked ID's and served drinks later, Scott comes barreling into the bar, his throng of friends in tow. They stick out against the regulars, their eyes too trained, movements calculated as they position themselves with their backs to the wall. Maybe old habits die hard, or maybe it's because they've come close to death one too many times not to play it overly safe; it's like their scapula's are drawn to the studs in the walls.
Scott pushes up to the bar, his mudslide iris's bleeding with light unbridled joy just as they always do. A wide smile adorns his face, cheeks beginning to go red. He slides himself into a barstool, the rest of his friends confining themselves to a booth against the far side of the bar.
"Hey Scotty, what can I get you?" I ask, running the towel in my hand over the counter in front of him. I try and return the smiles he gives me but I know it doesn't quite crest over my eyes. If Scott notices, he doesn't say anything.
"A round of tequila shots for the table, so that will be six please, Scooter," He taps his hands against the warn and scratched surface of the bar top as he speaks. I swear I have never seen Scott not fidget.
"If I counted right when you came in, there is only five of you," I chuckle, pulling the shot glasses out from underneath the bar. I line them up carefully before pulling out the salt to rim each glass. Scott furrows a brow at me before turning back to his group of friends to count. I can't help but laugh as he counts each of them on his fingers.
"Oh right!" He exclaims, turning back to face me, "Bucky isn't here yet, but he will be, so six shots please." I roll my eyes but rim one more shot glass with salt before putting a wedge of lime on each of them.
"Go sit with your friends, Scotty, I'll bring these over when they're ready," I inform him, shooing him away with a wave of my hand. He goes to protest but keeps quiet when I raise my eyebrows at him. He knows better than to challenge me, especially after all of our years of  friendship. Scott wanders over to his friends and I pour each shot before placing them carefully on a tray. I pull the tray carefully from the bar before rounding the corner to their table.
"Good evening, gentleman and Wanda, how are we this evening?" I ask, a smile spreading over my lips. I have met only Wanda, which happened to be by complete accident when she came into the bar with her brother, Pietro, when they were still new in town. She came around a lot after his passing and we became friends somewhere between then and now.
I know of the men sitting with Scott, being that they are Avengers, but I haven't met them officially. The large blond sitting next to Scott cracks a shy smile, sending a look my way and the older man next to him shoots a knowing glance across the table towards Wanda. He earns a hard elbow to the ribs from the black man sitting on his other side. I pretend not to notice as I place the shots down in front of them.
"I'm Steve," The blond speaks as he looks up at me from his seat, "We've heard so much about you, from Scott, it's nice to finally meet you,"
"Hello Steve, it's nice to meet you as well. Thank you guys for coming in to visit little ol' me," I chuckle, tucking my tray under my arm. I lean into Scott's shoulder with my hip, bumping him playfully.
"Scooter, this is Clint, Sam, and you know Wanda," Scott introduces the rest of the group, each of them nodding and offering a kind smile.
"What brings you guys to this little hole-in-the-wall this evening?" I question, my eyes roaming around the table.
"Scott says you make the best drinks," Sam answers as he spins his shot carefully on the table.
"And we wanted to meet you! Sometimes it's nice to talk to normal people, you know?" Steve speaks and I can't help but laugh at his choice of words. Scott laughs too, tears beginning to form in the corners of his eyes.
"Normal people what's that supposed to mean?" I jest, looking Steve dead in the face. A blush beings to form under his collar, spreading up his neck and over his face quickly like a wildfire taking over.
"You know, civilians, not super people, just normal!" Steve tries to save the interaction but the blond next to him, Clint, shoves an elbow into his ribs again.
"Quit while you're ahead," He mutters, a grin pulling at the corners of his lips. Steve just slouches down a bit in his seat, trying to make himself disappear into the upholstery.
"Don't worry about it, I'm just fuckin' with you, that's all," I chide. The group erupts into laughter, and I can't help but feel grateful that Scott drug his friends here tonight. All of this is better than trying, and failing, to fill out paperwork. "Scotty told me you have another friend joining you this evening, is that right?"
"Yeah, Bucky should be here any moment," Sam informs me, checking his watch for good measure.
"Well, considering the fact that he is late, I think this shot here belongs to me," I pick up the glass carefully, taking the lime off the rim. "Shall we?" I ask and each person grabs a shot.
"To drinking with normal people!" Scott toasts, shooting a wink in my direction. A chuckle escapes my lips as I tap the bottom of my glass against the table before bringing it to my lips. I lick the salt off the rim quickly before taking the shot. The alcohol isn't as unpleasant as it could have been, but I hastily shove the lime into my mouth anyway.
"I don't think I'm meant for shots," Wanda grimaces, shaking her heads. Her body vibrates, goosebumps pilling over her skin as she shoves the shot glass away from her on the table.
"I don't blame you," Sam laughs, the sound full and rich coming from his lips. It makes me smile.
It's nice having actual joy radiating through the bar. More often than not, there is always someone here drinking away some sort of grief or thought they cannot outrun. Others are here to get into some trouble or someone else's bed for the night. Joy seems to be in short supply and I try and soak it in as Scotty and his friends laugh whole heartedly.
I let my eyes run around the group once more, the hodgepodge of personalities seem to coexist is a natural nature I've never seen from a group before. Each one seeming to compliment another, the group more tight knit than most I have ever seen. The pure definition of chosen family. When I zone back into the conversation, they are making bets of if their friend Bucky is even going to show.
"He is definitely coming," Steve assures the group, rubbing at the crease in his forehead. He looks tense, like he is trying to convince himself with his words.
"I doubt it. You know he never leaves his apartment," Sam counters.
"Shall I get another round?" I ask, placing each of the empty glasses on the tray. I am looking for an escape from what seems to be a tense conversation forming.
"Yeah, I'll come with you!" Scott smile, looking a little uneasy about the group conversation. We walk back to the bar, Scott following close behind me until I round the corner.
"Same thing? Shots? Or would you guys like something else?" I question, moving each of the empty glasses over to the sink. He orders beers on tap, the local stuff the team came to try. It's apple forward and sweet, pouring the drinks makes me wish I could have one myself.
"How have you been Scooter? How's your Dad?" Scott asks, plopping himself down one of the tall stools. He shoots me one of those looks, like he is trying to get into my head and dig around.
"Are you asking or is it just an opener for the question you really want to ask me?" I set two of the freshly poured drinks on the tray before grabbing another glass.
"Well, I do want to know how you and your Dad are. But I guess I'm really asking, how have you been lately? Any new dreams?" He doesn't quite meet my eyes at the last part, instead opting to look over my shoulder at the rows of liquor behind me. I curse under my breath, wishing my Father had never told Scott about my dreams in the first place.
"I am doing fine. Dad is still in prison, just where he was when you got out. You know that. But I do get letters and he assures me that he is doing well. He misses you." I tell him, working on the fifth drink. "I still have dreams. Lately, though, it feels like he is coming in flashes and feelings even while I'm awake. I can't shake the feeling of his fingertips on my skin," I shiver at the thought. My voice comes out somewhere between longing and desperate but Scott doesn't let his face faulter. "But I am all good, Scotty, I promise. I just wish I could figure out if there is something more significant here or if I am meant to be tortured by this phantom my whole life," I place the last drink on the tray, smiling sadly at Scott.
Scott leans across the bar, taking my hand with his. "You know if there was anything I could do, I would," He reassures me, his thumb running over my knuckles. "I know you don't want to talk about it anymore, and I said I wouldn't, but I'm sure if you came by the facility Bruce would run some tests-" I cut him off with a tight squeeze to his hand.
"Scott, I know you are concerned, and I really appreciate it, but," I shake my head at him, my hair falling into my face, "I am perfectly okay. I don't want to be poked and prodded just to find nothing. Plus, they are just dreams, very vivid dreams," I say in an attempt to sound convincing and I squeeze his hand for good measure, but I know he doesn't believe me. Hell, I don't believe myself.
He drops the whole thing and I pull my hand from his. "Lets get these over to your friends, huh?" I grab the tray and pull it carefully from the table. Scott nods at me, leading the way back to the corner of the bar where his friends sit. When the table comes into view, there is a large man sitting in the chair Scott was sitting in previously. His hair is dark, cut short around the sides but the top is longer, tousled back away from his face. A well worn leather jacket is slung over the back of his chair.
Scott scoots into the wrap around booth, sitting himself down next to Wanda. I move next to the mystery man, who no doubt is Bucky, the friend they have been waiting on. Scott is to my right. I Bucky's face is obscured by the tray of beers in my hand. I begin sliding each person at the table a beer, the honey colored liquid sloshing around in each of the glasses as they slide across the table.
I grab the last drink in my hand before tucking the tray under my arm. I turn to look at Bucky, a smile on my face- one that quickly melts into a look of surprise and absolute bewilderment when his eyes meet mine- no one else seems to notice the glint of recognition that flashes through his eyes and mine. The cool blue of his irises send a volt of electricity through me and the beer in my hand quickly slips from my grip, the glass shattering when it hits the floor.
That shade of blue- somewhere between cerulean and slate- hits me for the first time outside of my subconscious and the color is beyond entrancing. Everyone around us seems to jump and begin asking if everything is alright, but I am stuck in the depths of his eyes and the way they seem to glimmer in the low amber light of the bar.
He looks at me too, in a way no one has ever quite looked at me before; like he could see right past the flesh and blood of my being, straight into my soul. A small smile blooms over his lips, dusty rose and plump. I drag my bottom lip between my teeth as my eyes dart back up to his.
Scott grabs me around my upper arms, moving me a couple of steps back away from the broken glass that now decorates my floor with sharp slivers.
"Scooter, what the hell was that?" He asks me, stepping into my field of view, blocking Bucky and I's shared eye contact. "You look like you've seen a ghost!"
"More like a dream," I whisper, "Maybe a nightmare."

I'm in Deep with This Girl (Bruce Banner x Reader)
Tumblr media
Category: Fluff, tiny bit of angst
Ship: Bruce Banner x Reader
Trigger Warnings: Mention of attempted suicide (Bruce)
Summary: Bruce recalls how you met and got to where you are today.
Word Count: 2.5k
A/N: My baby boy Bruce does not get enough love and it makes me sad, he's one of my favourites in the MCU :( So I wrote something for him
------------------
Bruce Banner had only three or four defining moments in his life that made him feel like he wasn’t himself, wasn’t a coward. That’s how he used to define himself- cowardly.  A man much more likely to choose flight than fight. In his very scientific opinion, he would’ve been a much better person if he had of been born as someone other than himself.
As such, there has been many times when the doctor felt he wasn’t in control of his own life, not least because he had two consciousnesses occupying his mind, body and soul.
In Bruce’s mind, any time he wasn’t acting like himself, it was a good thing, except, of course, for the times Hulk felt mass destruction was in order. For the first few decades of his life, he was fully supportive of this philosophy. Little did he know, all it would take to begin to crumble this fragile mentality was a few short weeks with an unlikely source of happiness for the man.
...
The day Bruce finally decided to stick that damn gun down his throat rather than just staring at it, he was comforted by the thought that he would be doing…it, his way- not through Hulk’s recklessness or someone else’s means. Of course when Hulk spit Banner’s bullet straight back out, Bruce resigned himself to living a sub-standard life. One devoid of any real joy or passion, save for his work.
He knew the day Hulk first appeared in his life, he would never find love again. Not that he had really found requited love before. In high school, being the nerdy kid got him into more trouble than it was worth. Of course now he is successful and his bullies are struggling with their 9-5, minimum wage lives.
Bruce found himself laughing quietly over this thought as he, Thor and Scott walked down the streets surrounding Stark Tower. Scott, as per usual, was hungry and for the past week, had been trying desperately to convince anyone that would listen, to try a new Japanese restaurant that opened up nearby with him. The Asgardian god was intrigued by the promise of raw fish and a drink that Scott had assured him rivalled the quality of Asgardian mead.
Thor would later find out Scott Lang was simply a light-weight due to his constantly changing metabolism. This was a heartbreak the God of Thunder would not soon recover from.
It was a brisk morning in New York City when Bruce had overheard this conversation and decided he could use some air.
This was how he found himself walking the same route he did most days. Despite living in a tower with unlimited technology, one of the simple pleasures in Bruce’s day was a short walk to get coffee from his favourite hole-in-the-wall cafe. It made him feel normal, like he wasn’t sticking out like a big green thumb.
In order to reach the quaint location, Bruce had to pass by an establishment by the name of Murphy’s. Despite the implication, it was not an Irish pub. This usually made Bruce chuckle and as such, it stuck out in his brilliant mind, however this was not the only reason for its notability. Murphy’s was also where Bruce found his other simple pleasure in his otherwise stressful and frankly one-dimensional life.
You.
Each day he passed, Bruce snuck a look into the cafe to see if the girl who had caught his eye all those months ago was there. The first time he saw you, you were serving drinks to an older couple. You had obviously been working a few hours already. Your hair had fallen slightly out of place, meaning you were constantly brushing it out of your eyes, and your apron was covered in what he could only assume was powered sugar from the cakes in the cabinet of the shop.
Bruce looked up by chance. He noticed how tired you appeared, yet you still took the time to connect with your customers, smiling and laughing. Listening to them. Perhaps this was drew Bruce to you, your ability to listen instead of dominating the conservation, something he was not typically used to having himself.
Bruce watched you smile again at the couple as he walked on. He knew he was doomed from the minute the voice of the green giant himself uttered “pretty lady.”
...
Since then, his habit had become routine, and despite passing by a little later than usual, the doctor hoped you were still there.
Scott and Thor continued their quite frankly, childish, discussion about whether or not Thor could have taken down a T-Rex when Bruce’s eyes wandered to the cafe.
His heart dropped a little as his quick glance for you was unyielding.
“Banner, the insect does not believe I fought Hulk. Tell him about the Grand…Banner?” Thor spoke, trailing off when Bruce didn’t respond.
Shit. He’d been caught.
Thor stopped walking and followed Bruce’s gaze. Just his luck, you emerged from the kitchen as the Norse god realised what was happening.
A smile spread across the blond’s face. “She is a fine maiden, Banner.”
In response to Thor’s comment, a blush appeared on the shorter’s face. This was for two reasons. Firstly, because it was true. You were gorgeous and Bruce suddenly realised how stupid he was to think that you wouldn’t have someone at home waiting for you. Secondly, he realised how idiotic he’d been to even think that he had a chance with you.
Scott, who had finally realised he was walking alone, had quickly retreated back to the group and assessed the situation.
“Bruce, go talk to her. What’s the worst that can happen?” Lang suggested sincerely.
“I don’t know, you guys. I’m not that type of person.”
“Banner,” Thor said softly to his friend, “no reward ever comes from chances not taken.”
“What he said,” Scott concurred, “Go get her, buddy. We’ll see you at the tower later!”
The superhero quickly grabbed Thor’s arm and dragged him away, leaving Bruce outside the cafe wondering what to do.
In the end, Bruce decided he didn’t feel like being himself today.
It was a blur as he walked into Murphy’s. The sweet smell of caramel and coffee enveloped him, thankfully even in his panic-driven state, Bruce decided a table by the back wall was a safe choice.
At least that way he could see the whole room. It seemed some habits couldn’t be broken and he realised, that was in fact, the very thing that had gotten him where he was now.
He eyed off the other patrons as you came over to greet your new customer.
“Hi, welcome to Murphy’s. What can I get you?” Bruce realised he had to speak but the words were caught in his throat, you were even more beautiful up close. “Sir, are you okay?”
“Oh, yeah. I’m fine, I’m so sorry about that.” Bruce willed himself to take deep breaths. “I was actually wondering when your shift finishes. I was hoping that you’d maybe like to sit together and um, have a coffee possibly? Or not, considering it’s your whole job. Never mind, forget I asked.”
“I’d love to,” you interrupted Bruce’s rambling. He didn’t think it was possible but your smile grew even wider and he quickly discovered it was infectious.
“Wow, um, great! Sorry I’m just surprised.”
“I finish in 10 minutes. Can I get you something in the meantime?” You had asked him, heart fluttering.
“Oh, um, no thank you. But what’s your name if you don’t mind me asking?”
“Of course not. It’s Y/N L/N.”
‘Y/N,’ Bruce repeated in his mind, ‘beautiful.’
Bruce emerged from the memory as you changed your position in his lap. He had been reading to you, and knowing you would fall asleep, he had the pair of you wrapped in the warmest blankets he could find.
He started down at the unbelievable woman in his arms and placing a loving kiss to your hairline,  reminisced about how he got so lucky.
…
From day one, you’d always managed to surprise him, the man of science who thought he knew his fair share about the world. And maybe that was why you worked so well together. You provided Bruce with the flare he felt his life was lacking. You were the spark he needed to re-ignite his passion for life.
Quickly after you’d agreed to have coffee with the doctor, Bruce realised he was about to have his first date with you, and as he’d already been proven to do, he rambled nervously. He was pleasantly taken-aback as later on, you recounted information he’d told you, back to him. Not only did you listen to him but you asked questions. You were genuinely interested in him and to take it one step further, you did something not many people dared to do with him, you sassed him.
“Save your breath, Banner,” you’d told him, “you’ve got me.”
In that moment, he thought maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t so bad to be Bruce Banner after all. But oh boy, there was two moments in the doctor’s life with you that surpassed those easily, making him feel like being Bruce Banner was the best thing he could ever be.
“I’m sorry, I’m probably not the guy you were expecting. It’s just that my friends told me to come and talk to you and well, here I am.”
“Bruce,” you started, “is it okay if I call you that?”
He nodded.
You knew who we was, of course you did, and you wanted to respect the title he’d worked so hard to get. Scribbling on a nearby napkin, you continued talking, happy with his consent.
“I’m really happy your friends told you to come in. Truth is, I’ve noticed you too, but I can’t exactly chase a man down the street in the middle of my shift,” you chuckled, sliding him the napkin. “I’m really sorry, I have to go. I’m not ghosting you I swear, this was really great. I just have a thing.”
Bruce took the napkin, feeling his heart sink a little. He never wanted the moment to end. “I understand.”
“I’m sorry, but there’s my number. Call me yeah? I know where you get your coffee if you don’t.”
Bruce, who was still in shock that you even wanted to see him again, simply smiled as you walked out of the cafe, offering him a final wave.
It’s usually a sign that it has been a good day for Bruce  when he returns to the tower and Tony Stark asks him if he’s okay because he’s ‘smiling like a mad man.’
For a week Tony asked him that question, and from that day onwards, Tony knew the key to Banner’s good mood had something to do with you.
The second moment, Bruce remembered, was in his opinion, the best of his life so far. It was the night you told him about your feelings for him.
As he himself was falling asleep on the couch, book abandoned, he recalled how utterly stunning you were the night of Tony’s last fundraiser ball.
…
You had thought long and hard about your dress choice. You wanted to impress Bruce as this was the first time he would be seeing you in anything like this outfit. Not to mention that you’d also planned on taking things to the next level with him.
This was your seventh date and when he’d asked you to be his during date number three, you were over the moon. A month later and you were ready to say it, the thing you’d felt since your first date with the gorgeous doctor. The ‘L’ word.
Bruce, naturally, was oblivious to your feelings and was still reeling that you’d even said yes in the first place. But the moment he saw you in that stunning split-leg red dress, he felt his heart swell with pride. All these people in the room with their eyes on you and you were his. You chose him.
You quickly made your way over to your boyfriend, hiding in his arms and muttering that everyone was watching you.
He’d simply said ‘of course they are, look at you’ and kissed you so sweetly you thought you might swoon. You were sure your cheeks matched the colour of your dress.
You mingled with everyone for a while, talking with Dr. Cho about new medical technological advances, and Steve Rogers about the ‘good old days.’ Everyone was polite and accommodating, you realised you felt more at ease than you thought you would.
Across the room, Thor patted Banner’s back, smiling like a proud big brother, and secretly congratulating himself for being responsible for the connection between you two.
You managed to catch Bruce’s eye soon after and motioned to the bar, moving over after saying your goodbyes to Steve.
“Having a good time?” Your boyfriend asked you. He knew you sometimes struggled with new people and crowds.
“Yeah, I am,” you replied, holding his hand from the adjacent seat.
“I’m glad honey. Now let’s get you a drink and pretend I’m the man of your dreams,” Bruce chuckled nervously, it was a joke from a dinner you’d had a few weeks back.
As he flagged down the bartender, you realised this was your chance.
“I think you just might be, Doctor Banner.”
“Wait, what? Really?!” he questioned, trying to recover from choking on his own spit.
“Yes, Bruce,” you laughed softly. You placed a hand on his cheek and moved so your knees were touching, “In fact, I think I love you…”
You searched the brunet’s face for any signs of a reaction as he stared at you, mouth agape. Before you could apologise or ask if he was okay, you felt your lips being pulled against his.
You had never felt so much passion, let alone known Bruce was even capable of kissing like that.
“I love you too, Y/N, so much.”
You stirred and realised Bruce’s snoring was the cause of your rude awakening. He had shifted down the couch so that he was lying flat, with you still wrapped in his arms, ear to his chest.
“The only benefit of the other guy,” he’d once told you, “is that I can protect you from anything.”
You smiled to yourself as the words rang in your ears. Lifting your head, you placed a kiss on the doctor’s cheek.
“I love you,” you whispered before sleep took you again.
Despite you constantly reminding him of your love, over the coming months , Bruce would often experience doubt about why you were with him. You knew who he was and who he became when he hasn’t himself.
It had taken a long time for you to convince Bruce that Hulk made him a better person, he was not a seperate entity to be feared but a part of him, and that loving Bruce meant loving Hulk too. Hulk very much liked the sound of that and slowly came out to spend more time with ‘his Y/N.’
You trusted Bruce. He saw your demons as you saw his and you knew that was what likely made your relationship feel so effortless, so natural. You didn’t think of Hulk as a demon though, simply an extension of Bruce and it gave you more of him to love. Loving Bruce Banner was all you wanted to do for the rest of your life.
Bruce still passed by Murphy’s every day. But now, it was to get coffee from his girl.
And he knew he was the luckiest person in the world as you threw a kiss in with every cup.

You’ve been on the run for a year now with Steve, Sam and Natasha. A few weeks after you all escaped the Raft, Clint and Scott decided to make a deal with Ross to get house arrest because being on the run and away from their families was too hard for them.
The five of you that remained went from safe house to safe house while doing as many missions as you could, never staying in one place too long and still trying to help people to the best of your capabilities, with Wanda disappearing from time to time to spend time with Vision.
Lately, though, you’ve been noticing Steve’s been a little fidgety, even disappearing here and there for a couple of days at a time.
You want to ask him what’s going on, but you don’t want to be nosy so you wait for if and when he’s ready to talk about it.
And that time comes one random afternoon as you’re all sitting around in the living room of the safe house you’re in, Wanda being off with Vision.
“Hey, can I talk to you?” He sits next to you and you nod, putting down your book to give him your full attention. “I know you’ve all been wondering where I go every now and then, and I’m glad you didn’t push it. But I’m ready for you guys to know now.”
He addresses everybody before turning to you and looking straight in your eyes as he finishes. “Bucky’s awake.”
Your breath hitches in your throat and you can’t seem to find it in you to say anything more than “Oh.”
“Yeah. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner...” He looks actually sorry. “We just thought it would’ve been better to keep it as lowkey as possible.”
You nod and look at the floor, trying not to show your disappointment.
It makes sense. After all Steve is his best friend, his brother, his only family. You’re barely an acquaintance.
Right?
“He asked about you.” your eyes snap back to him. “He wanted you to be there, but he understood. He’s glad you’re safe.”
“From the government or from him?” you mumble and Steve gives you an apologetic look, but lets it go.
“The thing is, I kind of need to ask you a favor.” you narrow your eyes at him and he raised his hands in surrender. “It’s nothing bad, I swear!”
“Fine,” you sigh. “What do you want?”
“It’s just, the mission we’ve been planning is important…” he looks at the plans and footprints on the table. “And only three of us are needed for it.”
You think you see where this is going. “You want me to take over your part of the mission?!” you look at him like he grew three heads. How the hell can you take on the role of a supersoldier?
“No, of course not. That’s the thing.” he quickly clarifies. “I can’t be spared for this, and we know the mission is gonna last a while.”
“Where are you going with this, Rogers?” you’re just confused now.
“Could you look after Bucky for me?”
Oh. You try hard not to look too excited about the prospect of seeing Bucky again and spending time with him.
“Are you… sure that’s a good idea?” you ask him as coolly as you can.
“It’s not gonna be hard. You just need to keep an eye on him from a distance.” good thing you managed your expectations. “Shuri’s gonna be working with him and, when he’s ready, she’ll let you talk to him.” Okay, you’re excited again.
“Uhm,” you have to at least pretend to think about it, right? “I guess, if I’m not needed on the mission and you are, I could do you this favor.”
You fight a smile as you make the mistake to look at Sam, that’s grinning, knowing full well how you feel about Bucky. You groan and roll your eyes, but he says nothing, thankfully.
“Thank you.” Steve lays a hand on your arm and smiles at you. “This means a lot to me.”
“I know.” you smile back, then hug him.
“Okay,” he says as you let go “we’re leaving tomorrow morning.”
You nod and get up to finish packing the bag you were getting ready for the mission in a few days.
After you’re done, you go back to the living room to spend one last night with Sam, Steve and Nat as you don’t know how long it’s gonna be before you see them again.
The next morning you wake up thankful you’re not hungover and get your stuff with Steve’s into the jet, Sam and Nat accompanying you out to say the last goodbyes.
“I’ll miss you.” you tell Nat as you hug her “Please don’t cut your hair again while I’m gone.”
“I’ll try not to.” she laughs, hugging you back. “I’ll miss you too, Crazy.”
“Try not to miss me too much.” Sam tells you as he hugs you too, making you roll your eyes with a smile.
“Sure, birdbrain.” He groans at the nickname “Be careful.”
He nods and, after they say goodbye to Steve too, the two of you board the quinjet and make your way to Wakanda.
You are met by Princess Shuri and King T’Challa himself. You hug Steve goodbye as he makes his way to visit Bucky before his mission and to tell him he probably won’t be coming by again for a while.
Shuri and T’Challa, who insisted you drop their formal titles, give you a tour of the palace and then take you to a guest room that’s basically a suite, and you’re shocked to find out you’ll be living here in the palace for the duration of your stay.
As promised you look after Bucky from a distance.
Every morning you and Shuri get escorted to Bucky’s hut where she works with him on his deprogramming as you and Ayo hang back.
Other than making sure he’s okay, there’s not really much for you to do so you take this time to get to know the people. It astonishes you how easy you get welcomed by the community.
You’re taught their customs by the locals, you pick up some Xhosa, not a lot but enough to have conversations and you’re even taught to fight by the Dora Milaje. Mostly Okoye and even Ayo since the two of you cleared the air after the whole airport fight.
She apologized profusely about the wound she inflicted in your arm, which has been fully healed for months now, and you assured her it was okay. You understood she was simply doing her job and admired her passion and determination to protect her king.
Also, it turns out you broke a couple of her ribs, which you also apologized for, so you two decided to just call it even.
You got comfortable fast; dressing with their clothes, participating in their festivities and playing around with the children everyday as Shuri does whatever she does with Bucky.
You’re always careful to not get too close to be seen while still being close enough to keep an eye on them.
After their sessions Shuri always brings you up to speed and then you report to Steve to let him know Bucky’s doing good.
You’re making your way to Shuri’s lab where you’ve met her everyday for the couple of months that you’ve been in Wakanda.
“Good morning, Princess.” you tell her, bowing when you stop in front of T’Challa. “My King.”
“Stop that.” he swats at you as both you and Shuri laugh.
“Ready to go?” Ayo asks and you eye her suspiciously as she’s grinning like she does right before she makes a move that instantly knocks you on your ass during training.
“What are you up to?” you ask her but she just keeps on smiling.
“Today is the day, Agent.” Shuri tells you as smirks, knowing how you feel about the nickname.
“I’m not an agent of anything.” you roll your eyes, then register what she just said. “Wait, what do you mean, today’s the day?”
“Sergeant Barnes is ready.” she says and you can’t help the smile that comes to your face, which falls with a groan when you see them all smirking at each other at your reaction.
“Let’s just go.” you say as you turn around and start walking with Shuri and Ayo.
“Have fun!” T’Challa yells after you.
“Your order is my command, Your Highness!” you yell back and you all laugh at the loud groan he lets out.
As always, Shuri gets closer while you and Ayo hang back and she walks to the shore of the lake in front of the hut and then stops there.
You see three kids run out of Bucky’s hut, laughing, and the princess turns around as they run up to her and hug her.
“Are you playing around with that man again?” she asks, laughing. “You’re teasing him again.” she keeps teasing them as they chant ‘no’ between laughter and you can’t help but smile.
Bucky exits the hut and, like every other day, he takes your breath away. His sun-kissed skin, his Wakandan robes, his growing beard and the longer hair. The whole style just suits him.
You see him take a deep breath and then he gets closer to Shuri as the children run towards you giggling about the “Ingcuka Emhlophe”. [White Wolf]
“Uyayithanda Ingcuka Emhlophe?” you ask them. [You like the White Wolf?]
“Yena engaqhelekanga” one of the kids says and you laugh. [He’s strange]
“Kutheni ephulukene nengalo nje?” another one asks you. [Why is he missing an arm?]
You aren’t sure what to say, they are children after all, but you try your best.
“Kuba uyindoda ekhaliphileyo eyathi yenzakala xa inceda abantu.” [Because he is a brave man that was injured while helping people]
They all look at him in awe just as you hear Shuri say, “Sergeant Barnes.”
“Bucky.” he corrects her and you smile.
“How are you feeling today?” she asks him.
“Good. Thank you.” she smiles and motions towards you.
“Come. Much more for you to learn.” she says as she starts walking.
He takes a second to look out at the lake before following Shuri, but as soon as he spots you, he stops.
He stares as you’re giggling with the children that are now circling around you and dancing, and when you look towards Bucky again his eyes are already on you.
You blush a little at his intense gaze but he seems to snap out of it when your eyes meet his and he gets closer until he’s right in front of you.
“Sergeant.” you say, smirking.
“Doll.” he says, smirking back.
You smile at each other until Shuri clears her throat and you turn to look at her just to see both her and Ayo with a smirk of their own. You roll your eyes at them, but your smile stays on.
“Shall we?” Shuri says and starts walking, Ayo right behind her.
Bucky takes your hand and starts walking after Shuri too, pulling you with him, both of you feeling like nothing could wipe the smiles off your faces.

Out of Milk
Scott Lang x Male!Reader
Tumblr media
( Summary: Scott noticed he's run out of milk but it's nothing that a simple grocery trip can't fix! )
Warning?: Light swearing and Puns? Is that a warning?? Honestly just domestic fluff
!-!more under the cut!-!
“Huh, we’re out of milk.” You heard Scott say as he closed the fridge. He had his lips pursed as he turned to you, who sat at the small kitchen table eating a PopTart. He sadly looked down at his bowl of dry cereal, “guess I’ll eat something else..”
Placing the bowl the counter, he started looking through the cabinets. “Wh- hey, where’s the PopTarts?” “Oh this was the last one.” His eyes snapped to you as you took your last bite of the last PopTart and he groaned. “Well, what am I supposed to eat?” You shrugged “That dry cereal?” You tried not to laugh at his pouty face but it was near impossible with the way he was looking at you. “I’m not eating it dry.” “Then get some milk.” “We don’t have any milk!” “Hun, I meant at the store, let’s go to the store and get some milk- and other things.” You stood and went to his side, wrapping your arms around his waist, bringing your face closer to his. “I don’t know if you’ve noticed but there really isn’t much of anything left in this kitchen.” He looked to the side and hummed, “I guess it had been a minute since I’ve gone shopping for the house." You hummed along with him and he sighed. "..I'll get my keys."
-
"Scott, remember we need to get real food too." You told him, looking down at your arm where your basket lays and seeing nothing but snacks. "I know that," he scoffed playfully and directed his attention back to the snacks. "I'm just grabbing stuff for Cassie." That was a half lie and you both know it. You let out a nose laugh and you shook your head as he added a bag of Goldfish to the growing basket of snacks. "That's the last one for now I swear." You audibly laughed at that one which made him let out a laugh as well. "For now?" he chuckles and goes to your side that's not carrying the basket and grabs your hand. "Yeah, for now." His smile was as big as ever as he watched you come down from your laughter. Making you laugh or smile just fills his chest with pride and he adores it.
"What are you staring at?" you quirked an eyebrow at him as he stared directly into your eyes with a smile on his lips. "You, cutie." he bumped his hip against yours and you rolled your eyes at him, though by the smile on your face it was clear you weren't annoyed in the slightest bit. "You're so cheesy Scott." He raised your intertwined hands to his lips and gave yours a kiss. "I dis-a-brie." You threw your head back and groaned as he laughed and swung your hands drastically with a large smile on his face. "Was that a fucking cheese pun?" "ha, maybe." "ughhhh you gouda brie kidding me!" Scott gasped and abruptly stopped walking. Turning to you, his shock face soon turned mischievous. "Do you realize you've just started a war?" You smirked "A cheese pun war?" Scott nodded and you sighed. "I'm gonna re-grate this, aren't I?" "Ohoho, that was gouda." "All this cheese talk has made me realize we should probably actually get some shredded cheese." Scott nodded and so the two of you progressed into the dairy aisle together.
You grabbed a shredded cheddar mix and added it to your basket. "You think we should get yogurt?" You asked but didn't get a response. "Scott?" You turned and saw Scott staring at you with a small smile on his face. He always seemed to admire you when you weren't looking. It was something you queued in on before the two of you even started dating. "You're staring again Scotty." His eyes flicked to yours and he smirked, "I can't help it, you just look so gouda today." You stared at him for a second before shaking your head. "Are gouda puns the only cheese references you can make?" You narrowed your eyes at him, "Oh you feta believe I have many more cheese puns." "Yeah? Well I'm getting feta up with these puns." "Alright alright, because I love you, I'll stop." You sighed, "thank you." "But just in queso you didn't know-" "I'm leaving." "Hey, wait up!"
EXTRA:
You sighed as you finished unpacking your last bag of groceries. Placing the cheese in a drawer in the fridge. You were gonna close the door but something caught your eye, well more like a lack of something. You shuffled the old and new products around in your fridge before looking back towards the table where Scott was collecting the empty bags into a bigger bag. "Uhh, Scott.." Upon hearing his name his head shot up, a questioning look on his face as he waited for you to speak. "You're not gonna believe this but.." You closed the fridge and leaned against it with a nervous smile on your face. He shook his head quickly and stood up straight, his hands falling to his sides. "What?"
"...We're out of milk."

I really should have talked about this author when I did my “good MCU fanfics” rec series a few weeks ago, but to be honest, there’s so much to recommend with this author that they get their own separate post.
Basically, ever since 2017 this author has been writing counters to all the things crazy Tony stans say, and pointing out all the bad things Tony has done. I’m going to share some of my favorite ficlets with you now. Warning, there are a LOT.
Tony [Stark] has a lot to answer for - the author’s very first ficlet series in which they detail every way Tony wronged the other Avengers in Civil War. This one is only 12 chapters, so I don’t see the need to point out my faves as there are so few.
Actions Have Consequences [For Tony Stark] - highlights:
- May Parker finds out what Tony did to Peter in CW and gets him arrested
- The many problems with the Sokovia Accords
- My favorite if this collection; the Wanda chapter
- Team Cap did not rely on Tony’s money
- The Guardians of the Galaxy offer their take on the Accords
But Wait, There’s More [Prop-Tony Tropes]! - highlights
- Howard Stark would not approve of Tony’s actions
- Tony’s man-pain is not an excuse
- Wanda’s illusions were not mindrape
- Obadiah Stane’s under-the-table deals are not comparable to anything Bucky (or Wanda for that matter) went through, and Tony was most likely self-aware enough to realize that
- Why the fuck would Ultron stop mid-fight to say that Wanda was responsible for creating him instead of Tony?
Inconvenient Truths About Propping Tony Stark - highlights:
- Tony’s gamble to kill Stane was not a sacrifice
- Nebula would be disgusted and horrified if she knew what Tony did in Siberia
- My favorite of these: after the Snap, Steve gets a visit from Wanda’s spirit thanking him for giving her a new family (this was written pre-Endgame where we learned everyone was totally deleted from existence)
And the [Prop-Tony] Tropes Just Keep on Coming - highlights:
- The idea that Tony could get the Accords amended is preposterous
- If Nebula learned about the Accords, she would be furious at Tony
- Steve crashing the Valkyrie in the ocean WAS a sacrifice
- Contacting the Nigerian authorities would not have stopped Rumlow
- There were absolutely civilians who supported Team Cap
- Vision would NEVER turn against Wanda
- Killing Vision immediately in Infinity War would have been a horrible idea
More Inconvenient Truths About Propping Tony Stark - highlights
- Pepper was probably aghast at Tony’s refusal to help undo the Snap
- Morgan could have seriously injured or killed herself with that helmet and gauntlet
- May Parker would be horrified if she learned about EDITH
- Tony never gave a shit about Vision
- Tony never cared about Wanda in the slightest
- The other Avengers would have personally arrested Tony if they learned about EDITH
- Tony was not left for dead in Siberia
- Tony was fine with letting the world burn so long as he got his perfect life
- If Tony knew about the Accords ahead of time, that makes him even more despicable than he already is
- Shooting Sam point-blank was arguably the worst thing Tony could have done
- Team Cap DID face the consequences of their actions
- If Tony tried to tell Wanda he wasn’t responsible for her parents deaths (which I’d like to think he had the common sense not to do), she would absolutely school him
- The Avengers would have been better off without Tony (this one is a DC crossover in which Luicis Fox and Superman take Tony’s place in the first Avengers movie)
- Tony may or may not have designed the sonic cannons Ross used on the Hulk
- Rhodey was not given a suit during the climax of Iron Man 3, and that was dumb
- Tony never gave Nebula a second glance after getting back to Earth
- Peter would cut ties with Tony completely if he learned about Siberia
- The SHIELD data dump was carefully planned
- Bucky would NEVER, EVER turn on Steve
- Bruce would be disgusted with Tony for supporting the Accords
- None of the Avengers tried to kill Tony during Age of Ultron
- If Wanda has to stand trial after Age of Ultron, then so does Tony
- Pepper and Rhodey would be furious at Tony if they knew what happened in Siberia
So Many [Prop-Tony] Tropes So Little Time - highlights:
- If Clint learned about Tony’s refusal to help undo the Snap while he was still Ronin, he would most likely have taken drastic measures
- The Doctor would never in his/her two thousand years of life or beyond support Tony (this one was particularly cathartic as a Doctor Who fan)
- Wanda does not have to forgive Tony just because Yinsen did (and I would like to hope Tony had enough self-awareness to understand that)
- Rhodey and Vision would both blow their stacks if they knew who Peter was
- Sarah Rogers would be proud of Steve for standing up to Tony
- Pietro Maximoff would NEVER support the Accords, much less take Tony’s side over his own sister’s
- Peggy Carter would be ashamed of Tony
- Steve is an actual captain
- Team Cap would not leave Scott (or anyone else) behind if they could help it
- T’Challa would not refuse to help get Wanda’s shock collar off
- If you seriously think a World War Two veteran would support Tony over Steve, you are delusional
- If Tony and Gamora ever met, she would not like him
- Maria Stark would not approve of Tony’s actions
- Steve having that checklist in Winter Soldier is not indicative of his skills as a leader
- Wanda would never side with Tony over Steve
- Nigeria did not support the Accords
- The universe would have been better off if Tony had gotten shot down instead of Rhodey and he went to Siberia instead
- Bruce never tried to hurt or kill Wanda in Infinity War or Endgame
- Why the fuck would Asgard support the Accords?
- There is no canonical proof that Wanda or Pietro were formally trained by Hydra
- Scott was probably horrified at the fact that Tony did nothing to help after the Snap
- If Sam actually did get shot down, Tony at least would probably have just kept going after the Quin-Jet
- If for whatever reason Wanda had cast her Hex in the ruins of the Avengers Compound while everyone was still there, it would not have lasted very long at all
- Abraham Erskine would probably hate Tony
- Michelle Jones would have had Tony running out of Peter’s apartment like a bitch if she had been with Peter that day
- If Tony forced the Avengers to choose between him and Wanda, they would choose Wanda
- May and Ben Parker would NEVER be pro-Accords
- Wanda convincing Tony to start spending his money on the world would be a good thing
- Wanda and Bucky never met until Leipzig
- If Logan Howlett randomly showed up in Leipzig, he would be on Team Cap
- If Redwing was sapient, it wouldn’t betray Team Cap for Tony
- If Howard and Maria Stark were deep-frozen in Siberia, they would horrified to see what Tony was doing
-If Tony summoned Khonsu to kill Team Cap, he would be the only one Khonsu would kill
Ghosts of Conversations Past -  in which Tony’s awful words are reacted to more appropriately. Highlights:
- Bruce is furious at Tony for saying Steve should have been left on ice
- Peter dumps Tony upon realizing his deception
- Wanda and Pietro actually get to call out Tony for claiming that arms dealing was never his life
- Revealing Clint’s family to Ross was arguably the most evil thing Tony ever did
- Natasha is internally hurt at Tony’s callous insult after Leipzig
- Steve explodes at Tony over his WMD crack
- Bruce reacts more appropriately to Tony’s story in Iron Man 3
- Remember that double whammy homophobic AND transphobic comment in Iron Man 1?
- Stane’s final quip about Tony was 100% true
- Tony sticking it to Congress directly contradicts him being pro-Accords
- That famous gif of Tony rolling his eyes only exists because he is a jackass
- Vulture gets to take his explanation further and rants about Tony’s callousness
- Tony is a massive hypocrite
- Tony not paying the Avengers is completely in character
- Per No Way Home, Tony had a Star Trek Matter Replicator and never shared it with anyone
You Could Make a Case for That - assorted headcanons realized. Highlights:
- Morgan being a robot would have made about as much sense as what we got
- If Strucker’s pedestal for Loki’s scepter was booby-trapped, Tony would have died, and the universe would have been better off
- Tony insisting that Wanda and Pietro belonged in prison would be wildly hypocritical
- The Infinity Stones may or may not have made sure Tony died
- That deleted scene from Endgame where Tony shaves Rocket is 100% in character for him, and it is awful
- Tony not wanting to undo the Blip might have made more sense if Morgan was adopted after being orphaned by the Snap, but that would definitely have made him even more despicable
- If Mantis read Tony’s emotions, she would feel nothing but egotism and rage
- Whether Novi Grad was bombed by Hydra, NATO, or whoever, Tony is stil responsible for his bombs being sold to them
- If Pepper went to Siberia via the Rescue suit, she would be on Steve’s side
- the villains of the MCU liking Tony is not a good thing (this one was a rebuttal to a specific Tony stan fic)
- Tony failing SHIELD’s evaluation in Iron Man 2 was completely fair
- Tony has a lot in common with Lex Luthor
- Vulture didn’t reveal Peter’s identity, and Loki didn’t reveal Clint’s family, but Tony did
- The fact that Tony and Bruce were nowhere near an interface when Ultron came online is irrelevant; the mere fact that they had plugged in evil alien tech is the problem
- Steve did not hurt Tony by disabling his suit in Siberia
- Vision and Shuri probably helped keep Team Cap off the radar
- Goose the Flerken would not like Tony
- Steve and Tony on Vormir together would not work at all
- Tony has a lot in common with Kang
- If the other two Peter Parkers learned about Tony during No Way Home, they would be horrified that MCU Peter looked up to him
- If Tony had tried to rebuild the world after the Snap, he probably would have made things even worse
