Tony sat down at his lab downtown with his eyes shot, the lights made him more than pale as he lay inside his car and faced the wall. He has been drinking since this afternoon. His tears filled his eyes as he looked to his side to find his uncle walking around to open the side of the car.
He was surprised to see him here, last he checked he was with Coulson on a small assignment.
“Tony..” He muttered, resting his head against his hand, “Come on buddy.”
“I can’t stand..I’m tired, JJ..” He replied, squeezing his eyes shut and leaned forward into his touch for a spilt second.
“It’s okay, I got you.”
Tony was silent as an arm was looped around his side, lifting him up and out of the car, standing over to leave the lab and head upstairs. Jason kept an eye on him asking if he was alright in which his nephew just nodded. He lay him down on the couch with a soft blanket across his body wrapped tightly to keep him warm.
Tumblr media
A moment later, he returned with a small glass of water and some fruit. Orange slices to be consumed by Tony within a matter of minutes. He watched him as he sat, allowing his nephew to rest his head on his shoulder and even saw the crossword puzzle on his neck start to erase with time.
“..I don’t know what’s gotten into me lately…” Tony admitted with a small sigh biting down on another orange slice.
Jason hushed his voice for a moment before humming, “It’s okay..you just got overwhelmed, you need a break, step back and regroup..”
“I’m boyfriend of the year..are Pepper and I even dating?”
“I would like to say you are..you will figure out, just no more running off for a while. Please.”
The brunette only nodded, as his uncle found something on the TV for him to watch. He even wondered if he should provide him a vitamin C infusion, JARVIS recommended it. All that matter was to keep him away for the drinks for a while and not have him stray away from help.
He has a good idea where to start.
~~~
Jason carried a 2 year old Rei in his arms, resting the small brunette on his hip walking around the mansion trying to get him to stop crying.
It was early in the evening. His mother was gone for a week, his father was stuck at work with Pepper and JARVIS was no help.
Rei was whimpering, having just returned from the backyard not wanting anyone to know he got hurt. Jason of course figured out the problem and cleaned up the small mess on his knee. Now he rested his head on his godfather’s shoulder as his hand cuffed the fabric of the sweater.
Him and Tony were the same in this aspect, getting hurt by something and wanting to deal with it by themselves. Yes, it showed independence but still, it was alarmingly obvious it wasn’t the best move.
“Aw penguin..” He said softly, gently resting his head against his own, “Rei, it’s gonna be alright..you’re fine now.”
“It hurts..” He mumbled into his shoulder, as soft tears rose to his eyes.
“I know that it hurts, but you took medicine for it and now you’re going to feel much better I promise.”
“I’m dumb, papa..”
Jason was pacing around the room at this point and paused but kept a hand rubbing circles across his small back. He hated hearing his kids talking about themselves that way.
“Hey, hey, you’re not dumb..you’re Rei Stark, you’re one of the smartest boys I know. You fell cause you’re running so hard, that’s all. It can happen to anyone, even me.” Jason explained.
“You fell?” He questioned removing his head the shoulder he was resting on to face him properly.
“Yeah I fell a lot. I still fall and trip over things, if you only knew how much times I almost died tripping over your father’s toys.”
“Really?!”
“Yeah, really. It hurt a lot, but I got up again. Just like you did.”
At that Rei softly smiled and nodded, feeling a bit better about not feeling so bad for falling down earlier. He was a strong kid but rather sensitive about things whether he admits it or not.
——
———-
“Pops, I think I like guys too now.” Rei blunted said entering the living room of Avengers Tower.
Jason was on the couch reading A Streetcar Named Desire when he heard his godson say those words. He took him a long moment to lock in what he said then smiled. JJ remembered Rei checking out some cute reporter two weeks ago but didn’t say anything to not embarrass him.
He already figured out that he might’ve felt that way but waited for him to come to his own conclusions about it.
Tumblr media
Rei waited for a response, he was kinda shitting his pants wondering what the heck he was going to say to him.
A few seconds later Jason spoke, “I know. And I’m happy for you.”
“Wait what?” Rei asked as his eyes silently widened, “Dad freaked out!”
“Your father is just being dramatic, thinking you weren’t going to ever date until your mid twenties. Don’t worry about him. How do you feel?”
“I feel okay, I guess. How are you not freaking out?”
“Kiddo your grandfather and father aren’t straight eariler. I was just wondering to see if you were gonna being home a boy or girl someday, I’ll love you all the same. You know that.”
“B-but..I was ready for some lecture or something.”
“I’m not Cap, kiddo.”
“Wait grandpa wasn’t…that’s impossible he married grandma and dad never said..”
“Your grandfather has always been into blondes. Hence why he liked me, Cap, my sister and your grandmother.”
“Oh shit, grandpa was bi..and so is dad? Just to be clear, you’re cool with all of this, right?”
“Yeah, you’re my kid. As long as you don’t date some ignorant jerk or bitter bitch we’re fine.”
Rei nodded thinking it went better than he thought. Of course he wasn’t going to bring anyone to his house who insulted him or made him feel guilty, he wasn’t stupid.
————
——————
Tony and Jason were in the middle of the kitchen together sharing some slices of pizza. A small mission went as planned, the heroes were all celebrating at home with them.
It was quiet. A little too quiet for his liking.
“Where’s our son?” Yelled a voice that belonged to his wife.
And there it is.
Despite not being officially confirmed as married to a legal counsel, in their hearts they are.
Tumblr media
Liz came in with her arms crossed stealing a slice of pizza from the box muttering that she was hungry. Tony locked eyes with his uncle then looked at his aunt with a smile.
“Whatever it is, blame the kids!” Tony exclaimed taking another bite.
“You stole my blueprints from the basement without telling me.” Liz said looking between her nephews and husband.
“How is that a bad thing?”
“Because they are mine. Some of them were…made for the military during the war.”
“I was just going to reinforce them into better positions and transport your idea into something useful for the modern day.”
Jason joined into the conversation as he added, “Honey, you did make some explosive points when you created those fine numbers back in the day.”
Liz jokingly glared, “Who’s side are you on?”
“I’m afraid to say which one.”
“Good answer.”
Tony sighed, “In my defense, I was just curious! It’s not like I going to have something blow up in my head…this time at least.”
“I swear you’re more like your father every day..” She muttered softly smiling, as she pinched the bridge of her nose, “Next time, you come to me with an idea. We’re a family for a reason, you have my brain!”
The three of them talked it over coming to a good compromise. But a part of Jason couldn’t wonder how Liz would react if Louis, Tony’s brother who lived in another city within the United States, stole one of her blueprints too. It was always evident that the Stark boys tend to be the most curious boys alive, it resulted in those sets of brother destroying one of his favorite cars.
They always tend to take a small comment and trickle it down to a roar, as one small idea would turn into something great for humanity or an opportunity gone wrong. That’s how Ultron was created…
“Alright. Relax your shoulders a bit, tighten the grip on the handle and have your fingers line up the tip of the arrow.” He instructed with a smile.
“Like this?” She asked, holding up her bow and arrow at an angle.
Tumblr media
She could’ve learned from Clint but he was busy on a date with his wife and her mom was babysitting. She already knew how to use a gun, but extra protection in skills was always a plus.
She picked out a specific arrow she wanted to use and took care of the bow she was handed. She questioned if Jason even knew how to work this kind of equipment.
His response, “I never said I didn’t know how to use a gun. And never said I didn’t know how to shoot an arrow either.”
“Fair point. When did you learn to shoot with a bow and arrow?” She wondered with a smile.
“I was on a mission in Tokyo, to chase down some idiot who stole a type of drug. As I was running through the streets, s arrow came flying from a rooftop to straight into the guys leg. Then I met the guy who shot him.”
“What wad his name?”
“Karl Yune. He was a good archer, he taught me a thing or two about this.”
“Sounds like a nice man.”
“Yeah, his older cousin worked as a geneticist in Korea.”
“…they are not related to Ji-Hoon, they are?”
Jason just winked telling her return to training as she grinned softly to herself. The two of them went onto 2 rounds, as he showed her how to start feeling comfortable with holding such equipment. Rochelle wasn’t that bad at the game, shooting the wall full of targets as best as she could.
“Good. Now you’re ready for take on your real teacher.” He said with a chuckle, lowering his bow.
She raised an eyebrow confused by his wording, “What..”
As if on cue, walked in a tan skinned woman with long brown hair and tattoos. She held a grin greeting Jason with a tight hug before turning around to meet Rochelle.
“Lydia Barton.” She said holding out her hand to shake.
Tumblr media
The redhead smiled shaking her hand and said, “Rochelle, but you probably already know who I am.”
Jason smirked telling them to be careful and have fun, that he’ll be back to check up on them later. Both girls just grinned leading into a casual but intriguing discussion on their favorite things, before training.
Something told him that they would be good friends.
“Give it back! It’s mine you little twerp!”
“It was mine first! I saw the last batch of cookies before your ass ever thought about them.”
“Oh really mature using curse words at me!”
“What do you care? You’re failing grammar anyway!”
“HEY! That’s enough.” In called Jason’s voice as he swung into the room snatching the cookie out of Ava’s hand and placing against it lips instead, “If you were are gonna fight over a damn cookie, then neither of you deserve to eat it.”
Rei crossed his eyes like the 9 year old he was and scoffed, “It was mine!”
“Oh pleaseeee, you said you didn’t want any cookies in the first place anyway!” Ava barked back.
“I could’ve wanted it for later, ever think of that!”
“You’re such a smartass sometimes…no wonder you don’t—”
Jason glared at both kids, “Ava, don’t even finish that sentence. And Rei, if you wanted it so badly why didn’t you tell her? You two could’ve broken the cookie in half instead of making a mess out of it.”
Both young Starks looked away from their godfather, feeling guilty and embarrassed for causing such a scene in the kitchen. Yet there was an instant anger behind their eyes, as Rei and Ava glared at each other. It was normal for siblings to fight over plenty of things but theses two would argue over everything, not making up afterwards either.
Their godfather sighed softly as he watched both of them in silence waiting for an answer that ever came.
Then he spoke, “You know something? There is something I want both of you to understand. Listen good, when I say that you two only have each other. Friends will come and go, they won’t always stay despite your best efforts. But as siblings, that’s a unit that you created for the moment your brought into this family.”
Ava muttered, “But he’s a little smartass, he thinks he’s always right..”
“Cause I am..” Rei added hearing his big sister.
Jason gave them a certain look as he continued, “You two are young, so you don’t get it right now. But there will come a time when you need each other but because you were both so harsh and pigheaded with another, you’re gonna feel alone. You’ll hate each other..despite a little part of you that still loves them..you don’t want to accept that. Then you won’t even want to imagine what happens next to your relationship.”
At those words, the siblings looked at one another then glanced down at the floor, that heavyweight anger started to creep away from their systems. Ava started to feel sorry for her actions as Rei began to feel upset about staring a riot. They knew he was right but didn’t want to admit it. There was another moment of silence in the room, only the small sound of Jason’s biting down on the cookie that didn’t matter to them anymore. The sibling exchange small gestures of apologies toward one another, even apologizing to their godfather as well.
Tumblr media
Ava asked, “Did you ever get into fights with your siblings?”
Rei added, “You and auntie Peg look like you could have fought a lot.”
“Well…” Jason replied with a half smile and shrugged, “..yes, me and aunt Peg fought a lot, but we always tried to make up for our mistakes. But I had another sister before her…her name was Dot, she was smart and cunning, she wasn’t ever around to help me…when she was, she treated me like crap, so we always fought..”
“Did you ever forgive her?” Ava asked out of curiosity, hoping for a good answer.
“Uh..we did forgive each other every once in a while..I tried to forgive her, but she never had the courage to forgive me. She was my big sister, I loved her, but she wasn’t really someone I would call to help me if I was in trouble, she would leave me out to dry..”
Rei nodded, “So that’s why you and auntie Peg are good friends..she was like a sister..so you want me and Ava to be like that too?”
“Exactly. You want both of you to look out for each other, make sure you’re alright and not hurt. Not leave the other in the dust.” Jason responded with a smile.
—————
———————
Cue scenes of Jason playing with his first godchild, Ava Stark, in her bedroom pretending to be Pop Stars. Ava was singing along to Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani and Avril Lavigne with a toy guitar in her hands.
Jason was sitting on the floor waving lights around and dressed in a funny hat, pretending to be her producer for a music video. He loved seeing his goddaughter shine acting out magic video footage in her bedroom as he filmed her. At first he didn’t want to be recorded on any cameras but after some encouragement from Tony and the others, she tried it out.
“I'll spread my wings, and I'll learn how to fly. I'll do what it takes 'til I touch the sky. And I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change.” She sung into her microphone as she played the guitar.
“And break away!” Jason sung along to the lyrics.
--------
One of the things of having a little girl in the house, songs get repeated every so often you remember the lyrics yourself. Poor man still has Under The Sea stuck in his head from last weekend.
It’s one of those things that carries over every generation of children he gets to know is the music taste, he may not always appreciate or enjoy the music but it does tend to become an enjoyable ear worm for him. If it’s AC/DC album from Tony to Selena Gomez’s Who Say from Rochelle, they tend to get stuck in his head!
Tumblr media
He tries to not let everyone in on his own playlist of songs but sometimes it will slip out…
Jason just finished a small meeting with the industry and answering questions from SHIELD investors, who just annoyed him the whole time, and decided to make himself a grilled cheese sandwich. He yelled out if anyone else wanted one but received no answer, so he shrugged, then popped in his ear buds cuing in his playlist. He had a bunch of songs.
“Starring at the blank page before you, open up the dirty window. Let the sun illuminate the words that you cannot find…” He sang out to the lyrics slapping both sides of bread onto the frying pan.
That was when Ethan stumbled into the kitchen saying, “JJ you saying some..”.
He paused noticing that the blonde wasn’t listening and singing instead as Liane bumped into him, she exclaimed to her boyfriend something important but Ethan told her to hush as he pointed out the scene in front of them.
Liane was confused for a moment then squeaked seeing Jason singing out loud as he danced in place, it wasn’t something she saw coming but was more than surprised to see the man was in his element. She smirked to herself wondering what other songs he knew.
A couple of days later, the pair were coming back from their trip to the movie theater as that very song was playing on the radio. The two walked in singing it loud enough to hear along with a group of Taylor Swift songs. Before they knew some of the young avengers were humming the damn tune.
The tall blonde walked past hearing his serenity song being sung, raising an eyebrow at everyone’s actions wondering who else knew about this. Oh god he wasn’t gonna be able to live that one down anytime soon.
———
—————
One of the biggest things people always assume is that he was the best parent ever, due to the young avengers always wanting to hang around his chill vibes and warm atmosphere he created.
But the truth is that he wasn’t a freaking super-dad or anything. He grew up with a somewhat rusty alcoholic father and a mother who was always traveling around with her kids, leaving him to pick up the pieces himself when they weren’t at home bricking about something. In response he tried to convince the world he was going to be fine no matter what happened, he even believed it himself.
Tumblr media
Jason even promised to make the best he can when he gets the opportunity to be a father himself, in this case an uncle, someone who was there for his kids. He might not know everything or even be skilled at certain aspects of life, but he tries. So when Tony was born he decided he would stick around, live closer to Howard and Maria, but it also meant he would be away for work and signing papers for different aliases. Still, he did it, even though he might not want to talk about it with many.
He keeps himself, cool, calm and composed in collected fashion. Yes, he has his flaws such as drinking, having a temper and smoking (it was for a short period of time, he quit in the early 70s), Jason was still there for Tony. Same thing goes for his godchildren, which is a privilege and gift to watch them grow and learn now, he still has those moments where he ends up not getting enough rest due to taking care of them.
So to Natasha, Tony, Bruce and the other parents he seems like the only well informed and intelligent one when it comes to parenting, it’s only was all due to respect, patience and watching how the ball rolls. He used to put so much pressure on being the awesome uncle and whatnot, then he realized that all you need to do is be there for your kids.
They don’t ask of much, only for you to spend time with them even if you’re far away and need to do a phone call with that. Same thing goes for any relationship romance or platonic, as long they know you’re there for them, that’s what matters.
Like the saying goes, ‘No one is freaking perfect’. He’s still learning how to raise theses guys!
————-
——————
Nicknames. He doesn’t have nicknames for everyone, only if the person is comfortable with them, of course. But that never stops Jason from making up silly nicknames for the kids, usually they come out naturally without even trying.
Tony has had a few nicknames such as Butterball or Meatball when he was a baby, he was a round cubby little guy. Over the years it was Bambino, Bubba, Tones, Bunny and etc.
Rei was always Bubba, Sonny or Penguin, on occasion he would throw out the Papo (which is what him and his grandmother Maria use to call his father when he was younger)
Liane, he absolutely calls Princess or Your Majesty, when she's being a bit bratty
Rochelle tends to be, Li'l Red
For Cassie, he calls her Goldie cause her hair shines bright like gold in the sun
Melissa gets classic nicknames but he will throw out Peaches or Ladybug
Lydia, due to knowing her skills he will call her Sparrow sometime or just Ly
And the list goes on!
~~~~~~~
There has been moments where Jason has took a leap of faith to save his kids. Such as in 2013, when Stark Mansion was attacked and the whole place falling apart he remembered Pepper and Liz's screams as Ava was about to fall off the cliff of their home.
Tumblr media
Tony and Rei were busy fighting and trying to get everyone to out of the house safely. But Tony's suit wasn't working correctly either. Jason swooped in, sliding down the rubble and dust coughing as he catches Ava before she can fall.
"Baby look at me! It's okay, I got you.." He said rescuing her, as she clung to him tightly.
The two of them climbed back up the rubble and into the destroyed mansion as Ava went to help the others. The drones just kept on firing and tearing apart the house. Suddenly water took over dunking Jason, Tony, Liz and Rei all down into the ocean as Pepper and the other kids stayed above water.
To say Jason has taken a lot of hits for Tony and the kids was an understatement. For example, that same Christmas in 2013, there a fight on the streets where they landed in after almost drowning, as two crazy bitches was about to attack Rei. Jason choked one of women out as he was stabbed in the side.
The crazy burning women gave Jason some flirty eyes as she did so. He was not pleased. Liz was pissed off having finished fighting some guy to protect Tony.
But she thankfully swoops in wracking the women in a pole as she yelled, "Hands off, bitch!"
~~~~~
~~~~~~~~
He did have good moment as well, that didn't involve a fight (yet), such as 2015 during a Stark party New York City. The Avengers, young and old just finished a battle, as a party was being made to celebrate.
Tumblr media
Jason has been in and out of Stark parties over the years, sometimes he stayed the whole night and or times he went home early. This night felt like a good one, he had his girl with him, his friends were partying and the kids were enjoying themselves.
They all deserve a win.
Hell he even danced a bit, drank a beer with Thor and played pool with Sam. He saw Steve walking away for a moment to text some girl, not declaring on who it is he was messaging, despite Nat and the other teasing him.
Nat even muttered, "Oh I'll find out."
It felt good. He rolled his eyes at Tony's jokes and laughed at others. Soon enough, the party died down as everyone rested around the living room area sharing smiles as they all chatted.
Rick has Rochelle and Luna resting on each of his shoulder, Bruce was chatting with Natasha, Maria Hill was wearing Steve's jacket as she chatted with Liz and Liane was playing with a set of cards with Lydia beating her.
Steve and Thor were sharing another bottle of beer, Tony was grab one for himself and Cole was playing Janga with Rochelle. Everyone was there. Beside it held Thor's precious hammer.
"Come man, it's trick!" Clint exclaimed swirling his drumsticks.
"Dude, I tried lifting it once in New Mexico, it's glued to whatever ground it's on!" Jason added pointing to the hammer.
"Whoever shall be worthy shall have the power! Whatever man, it's a trick."
"Really?"
"Yeah!"
Thor smirked chuckling allowing Clint to take a swing at it. Everyone looked around amused of the honest challenge as Clint stood up smug looping his hand around the handle trying to pick it up. But failed dryly chuckling as he joked.
"Smell the silent judgement." Tony remark.
"Please, Stark, by all means." Clint said returning back to his seat next to his blonde friend.
"Oh this gonna be good.." Liz muttered hearing Liane snort at her comment.
Some of the young heroes wiggled their eyebrows, cracking a few jokes and engaging in conversations as they all watched.
Tony stood up muttering how it was all physic and how he planned to use rule Asgard as Bruce rolled his eyes, watching his friend trying but failed. He even returned with an Iron Man arm to help and lift it. Poor Rhodey was pulled into it too.
"Are you even pulling?" Tony exclaimed.
"Just represent. Pull!" Rhodey told him.
"Alright let's go."
Still nothing. Soon enough, almost everyone tried. Rochelle and Cassie gave it a try, as their eyes flashes trying to find the strength to do it. Rei scoffed as him and Rick round came, believing putting both their heads together they can do it.
Bruce pretended to turn like the Hulk as he pulled, causing a roar of chuckles and laugher from the gang. Nat smiled finding it cute shaking her head. Ethan and Ji-Hoon picked up the pace, but failed.
Liane and Cole teamed up to pick the hammer from it's place on the table. Hell, some of the teammates tried to use magic but instead moved the table and items surrounding it.
Liz and Lydia joined forces, taking the team up route. Tony joked how he tried it already but failed. It went on and on for a while, passing drinks and snacks watching the show of friends take their turn at Thor's challenge.
Then it was Cap's turn.
Steve took a swing of beer before getting up with a smile. His eyes narrowed rolling up his sleeves taking a deep breathe, looping his hands around the handle and pulled.
The Hammer Nudge.
It made a small squeaking noise, some eyes turned gasping to themselves and other didn't even catch wind of it quick enough to catch the moment. Thor's eyes widen as his stress level turned up a little thinking it was dreaming. Steve pulled again, as the hammer stayed in place.
Steve raised his hands in air declaring defeat with a small smile. Thor was chuckling as he said, "Ha! Nothing."
Luna and Natasha didn't even bothering knowing it won't work, despite Bruce and Rick nudging them on. They were smart in a way to watch and laugh the whole go on. Not everyone went, some decided to try again after getting some food in their system.
But again nothing.
"All difference to the man who wouldn't be king. It's rigged." Tony proclaimed searching for another beer.
"You bet your ass." Clint added in agreement.
Maria smirked, "Steve, he said a bad language work."
Steve sighed and looked at Tony as he said, "You tell everyone about that?"
Tony ignored his comment and joked, "The handles imprinted right? Like a security code? Whoever is carrying Thor's fingerprint is, the literal translation."
"If so, then Thor's son or daughter should be able to lift it right?" Rochelle questioned which sparked a whole other conversations among themselves.
One of them wondered who exactly can lift and what would it take to do so.
Thor stood up from the couch, putting his drink down as everyone looked at him.
"Yes, yes, that's a very interesting theory. But got a simpler one." Thor said bending down then lifting his hammer with such ease, "You're all not worthy."
Everyone chuckle, commenting on his words and either rolled their eyes at his answer. Some of them shook their heads, exchanging looks with one another.

CONFESSION TIME / — Talk Time With Me (I need a cool/better title idk)
Tumblr media
Peggy Cater didn't marry Daniel Sousa, made everyone at SHIELD look like she was single or whatever. (Daniel Sousa is now together with Daisy Johnson aka Quake, so they are happy too.)
But that girl securely got hitched with my EX-girlfriend at the time, Angie Martinelli who is a waitress and aspiring actress, and went on a little honeymoon in Paris with her. I am not bitter, I am more than happy that Peggy found plenty of love over the years and enjoyed her small wedding in New York City.
Me and Angie had a short term relationship, but stayed friends over the years (and especially after my accident, I knew she deserved way better than myself to protect and provide her with everything she needs in life).
We are all friends. I love my girl Angie, one of the best waitresses in NYC during the 1940s and 50s. She stole my heart in all the best ways, both girls did and I am more than happy they ended up getting their dreams. As a highly talented agent ( + Founder Of SHIELD) and a respected actress of the era.
Peggy might kill me for letting everyone know about this BUT I don't care love is love is love is love. They have a friends to lovers relationship.
———
Anyways folks, that’s a little weird but nice confession (I am/was tiny weeny bit tipsy from a last night), but remember you guys can ask me anything you like!

OC New Year's Challenge 2023 Day Six: In With The New
Introducing an OC (as yet without a faceclaim) and a new story I hope to work on:
Kathy Williams grew up knowing Michael and Peggy Carter, befriending them both and joining in with their adventures, and they stayed friends as the years went by. Joining the Women's Auxillary Air Force during World War II, she was devastated when she heard about Michael's death, particularly given she had feelings for the man - long buried, but still very much present. And these are dredged up when she gets a letter from him after the war, an unopened letter supposedly lost for five years...
Except there's something not quite right about the letter, something not adding up - it references things Michael couldn't have known about because they were years after his death, yet it's definitely his handwriting, and when Kathy digs further she finds out there was never a solid confirmation of his death; he was only presumed to have been killed in action.
This sets her off on a globe-trotting quest as she endeavours to find out just what did happen to her friend and what the letter signifies, a quest that ends up uncovering a lot of secrets and a lot more questions, and the biggest ones are these;
Why now? And why write to her?

Love In The Bureau 5/?
They hadn’t seen one another in 8 years until her boss decided to leave, leaving the position of Team Leader up for grabs. Kate wasn’t the happiest when she found out who it was, but maybe something can change this time round...
Enemies to friends to lovers. CM level violence. AU!
Tumblr media
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
"Eyes up, guys. He could be in here anywhere." Jess told them through comms.
For the last three hours, she had been planning everything with the team. Financial records had flagged on her computer from an old case. So, with the help of the BAU, she'd finally found a real identity of a person on the inner circle of a cartel in Virginia.
Spencer was sat in one of the booths with JJ, across from Rossi - to any passer by, they were just a couple meeting the parents, and the way they were talking, it was clearly JJ's stepdad introducing his daughter and son-in-law to his new girlfriend who was clearly late. Emily was sat by the bar, sipping on a martini, virgin obviously, and Luke sat at the other end of the bar, 'eyeing' Emily up.
And in the other corner of the bar, sat side by side, facing one another were Kate and Dean. Clearly, on a date. To anyone else's mind, anyway.
Dean's hand lay gently with care and affection on Kate's leg, leaning in a little. Her doing the same, keeping his eye contact.
Neither had spoken since that night. Not properly, anyhow.
~ ~ ~
Jess had given them their tasks. Their roles that they would be playing later tonight. And it was safe to say that Dean and Kate couldn't feel more awkward.
They were stood inside the locker rooms, the only thing between them being a block of lockers as they got dressed into their 'date' outfit.
Jess had said with them being close it would be the most believable. And everyone else agreed. Away from the feelings, simply when they stood by one another, they looked like a couple. Hell, a couple of cops had thought they were dating when they went to help out. One even thought they were married.
"Well, you bicker like it." They had told them when they found out they were just friends.
But now, here they stood, getting changed and the silence couldn't have been more defening.
"Are you sure you're okay with this?" Dean asked her eventually.
"Why wouldn't I be? I've gone undercover before."
"Kate."
Kate knew all too well what he was actually talking about.
"It's a job, Dean. We're co-workers, aren't we?"
"Is that all we are?" He asked, his voice a little on the harsher side.
"It's all we can be."
"Says who?"
"Why would we be anything different?" Kate asked him.
They were now both dressed. "Kate, we both know what happened-"
"Nothing happened."
"Is that what we're calling it?"
"Nothing. Happened." Kate reiterated. "Zip me up?"
Kate turned around, moving her hair out of the way, not once looking him in the eye. Dean was a little...confused? Disappointed?
They had been friends and now she couldn't even look him in the eye? Had it truely been that bad?
It took him a few seconds but he zipped her up. She moved her hair back, not once turning around. She continued walking, picking up her bag, closing her locker and making a B-line for the door ahead.
"Kate-"
Dean tried to call out after her but she didn't say much. Didn't say anything at all. Just kept walking.
~ ~ ~
"Got him." Luke said through comms as he lifted his drink.
Dean could see the door from where he was sat. "Eyes open. He's not alone."
"What?" Jess asked. She was across the street in a small apartment with Garcia and a couple other Agents.
"Don't look now, but our guy has clocked you."
Dean shifted his eyes to the second entrance of the resturant. He was looking around but there was that look in his eyes. He knew someone was here.
"Got him." Dean spoke in a low voice, never once making eye contact with anyone else other than Kate. "I'm gonna do something and you can yell at me later. Just follow my lead."
Kate nodded and quickly found Dean's hand on her cheek, pulling her in for a kiss. It was soft. It was more than a peck - it was a kiss. Part of it made Kate dizzy by the time he pulled away.
Dean took her hand in his, standing up. "Let's go home." He told her. Anyone could be watching them right now. And they were. He could feel their eyes on him and Kate.
Dean walked with Kate trailing a little behind him but only for a second because a second or two later, Dean bumped into someone.
"Oh, sorry, pal." Dean apologised.
The guy - Kate tried not to react. They guy was their guy. The guy who they had been looking for.
"Don't worry about it." He said, clearly supressing annoyance. After all, it had been an accident. Hadn't it?
Dean looked back to Kate, pulling her closer, an arm now around her as they continued walking until they got outside.
"Are you okay?" Kate played along as they walked away.
As they finally made it outside, they crossed over the road and circled the building until they found the back exit to the apartment building and found their way inside to Jess and Garcia.
"Garcia, track this chip." Dean told her, handing over a small piece of paper with it's coding on.
"You chipped him?" Kate asked, now understanding why Dean had 'bumped' into him.
Dean looked to her and nodded quickly before looking back to the screen, a hand on the desk whilst the other was at the back of Garcia's chair.
"They knew we were coming. He brought a friend. And-"
"Guys, who's got eyes on him?" Alvez asked.
"I don't know, he was here a second-" Emily began before JJ cut her off.
"Kitchen."
The following five minutes were filled with the evacuations and arrests.
"We don't have anything concrete to-" Jess now began as Alvez made the arrest of the second guy.
"What would you call that Prentiss?" Alvez asked, showing a bag of white powder.
"Well, I'd call that cocaine."
"Or maybe we do." Jess now said, hearing the conversation.
Meanwhile, Kate stood in the small bedroom behind a changing screen whilst Garcia sat on the bed, going through the black gym bag by her side that belonged to Kate, handing her her change of clothes.
"So what happened back there?" Garcia smiled.
Kate could hear her smile through her words.
"What do you think happened?"
Garcia still had a smile prominent on her face. "Well, I think our hunk of a team leader just kissed you in one of the most romantic ways possible. Well, romantic for being in the field."
"Penn."
"What? Hey, I saw it all through the security camera's. I'd call it romantic." Penelope told her, handing her a t-shirt. "So, what was it like?"
"Penelope!"
"Come on. Humor me. Please?"
Kate sighed. "It was...nice."
"Nice? He kisses you and all you can say is, it was nice?"
"Fine, more than nice. I don't know what else to say, Pen. He's...He's my Boss. I can't exactly call it the best kiss of my life."
Penelope stopped moving, her mind ticking over. And then Kate came out, now fully dressed.
"Oh my, god."
Kate stuffed her dress into the bag, not making eye contact with Penny.
"What?"
"You like him."
"What?" Kate asked again.
Penelope laughed. "Oh, you really like him."
"I've got to go."
"See you later. Say hi to lover boy for me."
Kate shut the door behind her, Garcia now turning back, talking to herself.
"Oh, she really, really likes him." Penny laughed to herself for a moment before it faded into a content smile.
~ ~ ~
The pair laughed, their eyes landing on each others. They had been holding eye contact the entire conversation but something about this felt different. More...deeper. Deeper than just two co-workers talking in the dim lights of the empty office...
They kissed.
They were kissing.
It was soft. Slow. Meaningful, romantic, calm and a little scary all at once. But they were kissing.
And neither had ever had a kiss like it.
It was a kiss that was only ever in movies. Or read about in books.
Neither had any idea that it could exist in real life.
And as they pulled back, needing air, their heads rested together, both unable to open up their eyes.
Niether had realised their hands had landed together, either. Holding each other with a gentle yet firm grip. They were safe. And safer together.
However, after a content silence passed over them, they both heard a noise causing them to jump. Kate more so.
"It's okay, it's just the printer shutting off." Dean assured her.
Kate was now stood, her hand still in Dean's as he sat. And suddenly all her emotions began to overwhelm her.
"I-I shouldn't - I - I'm sorry."
Kate dropped Dean's hand, moving to grab her jacket, shoving it on. "I- I shouldn't have kissed you."
"Kate. It's okay. I kissed you. I - is everything okay?"
"What? Yeah. Yeah, fine. M' fine. I- I have to go."
"Wait, Kate-"
Dean reached out, taking her hand in his again. "Kate. What's wrong? Did I do something? I'm sorry if I-"
Kate shook her head. "No. It - I -- You're my...I need to go."
"Shouldn't we talk-"
"I'll see you in a few days." Kate cut him off, grabbing her bag and making her way to the elevator. But Dean seemed glued to the stop where he stood, watching her scurry away.
"Kate? Kate?!"
But no answer. Kate just hit the close door button and sped away as quick as she could.
Everything in her told her to go back to him. Everything in her wanted to go back to him. So why was she running? Everyone on the team thought they were together. Everyone who they met when stood by one another thought they were dating. Hell, she'd be kidding herself if she said she hadn't thought about it once or twice over the years. Especially in the last year or so.
And it hadn't seemed so bad. It didn't now. So, why was she running?
Dean called her every few hours over the following days they had off. She had gotten out of there so quickly, he didn't really know how to respond. So, he told her it was okay. And that they should talk. If she wanted to forget it, he would. All she would have to do is give him the word and it was done.
But he didn't. He didn't want to forget. He wanted to keep that memory forever. Hell, it kept him awake every night after.
But the longer time went on, the more awkward it got. They wouldn't stay in the room with one another more than five minutes. It was worse than when they hated each other. Mostly because every urge was making them want to yell from the rooftops to stay, but they wouldn't.
But that all changed the moment Jess came back into the picture with her mission.
~ ~ ~
"The chip can only track him so many miles." Dean told Jess. "Once he's out of it - or changes clothes - we've lost him."
"How'd you know he'd be the one to get away?"
"Same way I know Kate hasn't killed me yet." Dean answered, Jess giving a small questioning look. "Luck."
"Ah."
Dean nodded and looked back to the screen.
It took a few hours but eventually they got a hold of him again. And, with luck, their target hadn't changed clothes as of yet.
"Where is he?" Dean asked, barging through Garcia's office door.
"National City Bank."
"Okay, text that location to the team. I'll call SWAT."
An hour later, they were stood outside the bank, their guy inside doing god-knows-what. All they knew was that people were inside and one of the tellers were locked in the managers room with him.
Meanwhile, outside SWAT was getting ready and Garcia was sat inside the van, hacking into the bank's security so they could get a good eye on what they were dealing with. However, as they were about to go in, Jess following Dean, he stuck his arm out stopping her in her tracks. As much as she had the field experience - he wasn't ready to see her go.
"Wha-"
"If this goes sideways, I don't want to be the one calling Sam." Dean told her.
"Dean, I'll be fine."
"No. Stay in the van with Garcia."
"Dean-"
"Jess-"
"Dean. No."
Dean shook his head. "Jess, I've already lost enough people. I'm not losing you, too."
It took a few moments, but with a reluctant sigh, Jess stepped back. Only, as she did, Kate came out from the van strapping on her vest.
"Where do you think you're going?"
"Starbucks?"
Kate tightened her vest before checking her holster.
"Kate-"
Sighing, Kate looked up to Dean. "Look, you still need a secondary and Garcia needs Jess' help anyway. Look into all the financials. There's a reason he wanted the clerk and not the manager. If anyone can find it, it's you." Kate said, looking to Jess.
And, with a small smile, Jess looked to her brother-in-law and leaned in a little, her arms folded across her chest. "She's good for you."
Kate didn't hear this since she was too busy focusing on checking her gun.
As the van door shut behind Jess, Dean walked over to Kate.
"I'm not letting you go in there. Kate, if anything happens to you-"
Kate gave a small chuckle. "Aww, it's cute you think you've got a say in that."
"I do have a say in that. I'm your Team Leader."
Kate sighed, finishing tightening her gear, she looked up to Dean. Her eyes strong.
"Yeah, well, you still need a seocndary and Prentiss and Alvez are dealing with the public whilst JJ deals with the press since Garcia is stuck in the van and Rossi is helping out the cops. And you were the one that trained me."
"Yeah," Dean agreed. "For six months."
"You still trained me." Kate pointed out. "I'm your best option. Now, shall we get to it?"
It took a few moments longer than either of them liked but Dean eventually backed down. "Alright."
They finally made their way into the building, the pair stuck side by side, SWAT getting in and helping the hostages.
Three hours later everything had been sorted. Jess could charge him under fraudulent claims and he'd be going away for a lot longer than he would have liked. People were safe.
Except for one...

Agent Jack Carter, high ranking magician of The Archivists, and user of (extremely controversial) blood magicks. Not much is known about this agent. Rarely seen without a cigarette when off duty, very aloof, and always has a keen eye. So keen, in fact, that it's almost as if he can detect when something is about to happen before it does...
If you can get ahold of his sealed file, there wouldn't be much in it.
He reports directly to the Director herself, although he is extremely difficult to reign in even in her iron grip. He doesn't appear to socialize with any other agents until recently, when he personally sought one agent for training. He typically tackles the missions with highest priority, securing supernatural artifacts and neutralizing threats with ease.
There are rumors floating around about a previous affair with the Director, and Jack being directly responsible for an agent being sent on a never ending mission to the Hell Dimension. So forget about what I said, okay? You don't want to end up on Hell duty.

During World War II, Nilüfer made it to the US army where she worked as an agent and directed some troops, much to many men's chagrin. She was smart, brilliant and efficient.
She met the sickly soldier Simon Battersea who was determined not to be consumed by his illness. By that, the US army would freeze him and turn him into the perfect soldier.
However, time passed and Nile and Simon's romance was cut short... By 70 years of Simon being frozen into the machine and leaving Nilüfer to fend for herself in a sexist society and the worst bellic conflict to have ever existed on history.
From the AU created by @gcldensnitch and Simon belongs to @unfortunate-arrow who also gave me the idea!!!

chapter warnings: none
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x OC
Chapter Summary: Having escaped Hydra once again, Bucky takes Laela to a place of refuge but not without calling in some reinforcements.
Chapter 2: Coalescence
                          Shelbyville, Indiana
“You know, I love to help you anywhere I can, but why do we have to do it out here ?” Daisy questioned Bucky, slapping what seemed to be another mosquito within minutes of slapping another. Laela, Daisy and Bucky all stood together in the garage of Bucky’s childhood home—well, Daisy and Laela stood while Bucky sat almost without a care on a table—waiting for the arrival of three more people.
“What’s the matter? Feeling out of your element?” He chuckled, a lopsided grin on his face.
“Barely, I just think this could be done indoors , perhaps? Or maybe at the Compound?” Daisy didn’t fail to remind her and Bucky that she had the Quinjet flying around the skies, invisible of course. Perks of working for the government, Laela guesses.
“I’m starting to agree with Daisy on this, I have bites on bites, Barnes,” Laela slapped at a mosquito yet again. She also felt a tad bit hot but put that down to the sweltering heat in this state. After last night’s events, they had spent about three hours (maybe two, if Laela considered just how much of a speed demon Bucky was on his bike) just getting here. Bucky wasted no time in calling in Daisy, whom Laela found was quite the character.
In the lull of it all, she found that whatever flowed through her veins was at bay for now but she wasn’t sure how long she could hold it off.
Almost as if on cue, a sleek, black Audi pulls up. It sticks out like a sore thumb against the rather tranquil, idyllic scenery of this neighborhood. If they were going for inconspicuous, they failed miserably. As promised, three people slowly disembarked themselves from the car. One of which stood out to Laela as Captain America. Sam Wilson. Another being Iron Man. Tony Stark.
A blonde haired woman was with them. Laela couldn’t place her to save her life.
“Barnes, please tell me I haven’t wasted my time coming to hillbilly country,” Tony seemed to tease him.
“It doesn’t hurt to get out of the city once in a while, Stark. I wouldn’t have called if this wasn’t important.”
Tony seemed to pause, then looked Laela up and down. “Who’s the new blood?”
“This ‘new blood’ is why you’re here,” Her words coming out snippier than intended. “I’m sorry, this seems like as good a time as any to introduce myself. Laela Gray.”
At the mention of her last name, Tony makes a face. “Gray. That name. It’s familiar, have we met before?”
“I don’t mean to be rude, but can we get to the point?”
“Which is? I’m assuming you didn’t bring me here just to meet someone?”
“I didn’t think that far ahead, Tony. I thought maybe you’d know,” Bucky said. He wore a smile, but it came across as more of a grimace. Sam lets out a scoff, a small laugh afterwards.
“You never fail to impress me, man. I mean, really, I’ve never met such a small mind inside such a big head,” Sam chuckles a bit, but it seems less out of amusement and more annoyance than anything.
“I know a place I can shove yours-“
“Settle down, boys. In all the squabbling, we forgot to properly introduce ourselves,” The blonde woman cut them both off. She has a commanding presence about her.
“Sharon,” she offered a hand to shake,” it’s a pleasure to meet you, Laela.”
Once things had settled, they finally moved inside. Bucky’s kitchen table became the base of operations. Holograms and files projected throughout the kitchen. Tony took a sample of blood at Laela’s urging, the sooner she knew what the hell was put inside her, the better.
“Let’s start with some recent intel. Should be of use to us,” Sharon prepared the files to look at. “while it’s no surprise that Hydra still has cells after the Triskelion, the Decimation or Blip depending on who you’re asking and the reappearance of said blipped individuals.” Sharon briefly looked in Laela’s direction.
“Not too long ago, we had readings of an energy signature knocking out the power in a 25 mile radius. Agent Davis reported her findings to Fury, acting director of SWORD.”
Nick Fury was a familiar name to anyone who kept close watch over anything the Avengers did. As far as Laela knew, he disappeared off the map some years ago so to hear them utter his name so freely must’ve meant his disappearance was no disappearance at all. In fact, the more Laela began learning about this stuff, the weirder and needlessly complex it got. But honestly, was anything so weird when you lived in a world like this?
“Of course, we couldn’t do much with it, considering we didn’t know what it was. Until now,” Sam added, the file Laela handed off to Bucky strewn across the table. Images of the machine, chemicals, and overall strange occult images but she really couldn’t connect them.
Laela tried her hardest to ignore the looped videos. They weren’t grotesque but just seeing what she had been reduced to in Hydra’s hands was more than enough to turn her stomach.
“I can try to explain as much as I can, but I’m still trying to piece things together.”
Laela started from the last thing she remembered before she ended up there. In the middle of her explanation, a voice that sounds almost human interrupts.
“Boss? Got the results from Miss Gray’s blood test.”
“That was quick.”
“You must not know Tony’s tech then,” Bucky says.
“Shall I relay the results, sir?” The voice asked.
“Go ahead, Friday.”
“Miss Gray’s cells have changed significantly over time. I compared the old results, pulled from lab records and found CMBR in her newest blood draw.” A side by side image displayed in the middle of the table, Laela can easily tell it’s her blood cells but Friday is right, the cells do not match at all. Somehow, Laela isn’t as freaked out as she thought she’d be...just curious.
“CMBR?”
“Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation.”
“But that isn’t all, Miss Gray’s DNA in her genetic code is predisposed for mutation.”
“That’s nice and all but what about this purple stuff coming out of my hands?” The ‘purple stuff’ as Laela so eloquently calls it sets her hands alight for a brief moment, emphasizing her point.
“Friday, I imagine that last bit of information can explain the purple stuff, right?”
“Unfortunately, no. The energy signature does not match any in my extensive database. Further research is required.”
Laela scoffs. “So, we’re back to square one, great.”
“Not necessarily, have you used this power recently?”
“You mean other than turning a bunch of Hydra scientists into plant food? No.”
“Why don’t you?”
“Did you not just hear me say turning into plant food? I don’t want to risk hurting anyone.”
“Laela, the best way forward is to learn them safely and the best place to do that would be at Avengers Compound. Come on, you’ll love it, kid! State of the art tech, a lap pool, a screening room, a gym, it’ll be like staying at a Four Seasons except with a bunch of superheroes.”
“Tony, I don’t think mentioning living with complete strangers to her is the least bit appealing.” Bucky pointed out, though Laela didn’t speak it aloud, she found herself disagreeing with him. Sure, these people were complete and utter strangers if Laela really dug deep but few got to really be up close and personal with the heroes who sought to protect everyone. Only a lunatic would pass this up.
“Technically, we’re all a bunch of strangers to her,” Daisy piped up, already stating the obvious to which Sam, Sharon and even Bucky rolled their eyes.
“Like you were complaining once you ransacked the fridge, Buck,” Sam spoke with a smirk, already knowing more than he would let Laela in on. Her eyes darted between the two briefly. Bucky’s brows knit together, clearly aimed towards Sam, annoyance flashed across his face.
These are the people best equipped to save the world?
“That was one time, Sam.”
While everyone at the table seemed to bicker amongst themselves, Laela went inward. Instead focusing on weighing the options. She wondered why she hadn’t done so earlier but now seemed as good a time as any. The words of her mother could be heard clearly in her head saying, “If the pros far outweigh the cons, what’s the worst that could happen?”
Of course, those very words had gotten her into some trouble before. But not like this. Though she didn’t know him quite so well, she could tell that not everyone would agree with Tony ( if only you knew, Laela, if only you knew) but somehow she was agreeing with him. Not properly studying these powers could be dangerous.
So with her mind made up, she cut through the childish bickering with a simple, “Alright, I’m in.”
                                        ——
                           Avengers Compound
To say things went at a breakneck pace is an understatement. Tony did not mess around when it came to stuff like this. Laela was just content in the moments where she wasn’t being poked and prodded like a lab rat yet again, but she could be forgiving considering the room Stark had her set up in. It was all he promised and a little more.
But still, Laela couldn’t recall running into a single Avenger, at least, not yet anyways. Minus Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. She always kind of imagined meeting the Avengers would be a bit more...exciting? Granted, there were no world ending level threats—at least not to her knowledge—that required them to all be here.
She’d give it a couple more weeks before this place would be crawling with activity.
Just as Laela decided a walk was just what she needed, Friday announced she had a visitor at her door. She shuffles towards the door hoping to shoo whoever it is away for more alone time with Netflix. The first thing she sees is an arm, a vibranium one at that, and an illegally tight henley.
Laela didn’t realize how hard she was staring until Bucky cleared his throat, and she swears there’s a brief twitch of his lip. She wishes the heat rising from her cheeks would disappear as she puts on a nice smile for him.
“As much as I hate to disturb you,” Bucky spoke. “There's someone who wants to meet you.”
“I swear to God, if it’s another scientist friend of Tony that has come to poke me like they’re some acupunctur-“
He cuts her off with a gesture, “Not that kind of meeting. Now, come on, you don’t want to keep him waiting.”
“Him?” Great. Just the lone taco in a sausage party, yet again.
Laela stays right on Bucky’s heels as he leads her through hallway after hallway in the Compound. She wasn’t quite sure if she should start a conversation, so she kept her eyes focused in front of her and tried not to glance over at the supersoldier. He wasn’t the talkative type, that’s for sure. She had been itching for the chance to really thank him. Hell, if she hadn’t reached out for his help, she wouldn’t know what her next moves were.
She shuddered at the thought of having to squat at another halfway house, the stomach pangs, and especially the grimy feeling you couldn’t ever wash away even after showering constantly. Laela never thought she’d get rid of the smell of stale cigarettes and sweat off her skin.
“Miss Gray, I hope Stark’s accommodations have been to your liking?” Nick Fury stands before Laela in a little leather number and a matching eye patch. Somehow, she thought she’d be about as giddy as a kid on Christmas morning but given his expression, she finds it’s probably in bad taste to act too excited.
She shrugs instead, “I’m not complaining.”
Fury nods and smiles briefly, “Good, good. Now, I think it’s time to discuss the incident that occurred in Langley.”
Laela shook her head, trying to not relive the events all over again. The pain, the bright flash of amethyst, and…
No, don’t think about it too much. She brushed aside the eerie feeling brought on by the topic and swallowed down whatever wanted to rise to the surface. The last thing she wanted was to unleash whatever this power was on people who just want to help her understand.
“What about it?”
“How did HYDRA get you?”
Laela explained her story again to Fury, except in a little more detail. She could remember clearly now how it all occurred. Her father had disappeared months prior to the Blip, both her and her mother were aimless and fruitless in their searches for him. So, Laela did what she did best and threw herself back into her studies.
It just so happened that day was the day HYDRA decided to strike and took her in broad daylight. Then came the experimenting, but Laela couldn’t think about that just yet. It was too recent but she knew for a fact that she was one of those who disappeared. Except she didn’t get so lucky as to return “safe”.
In back of her mind, she wished she didn’t come back. In fact, she was becoming a little annoyed that all the Avengers had done for her so far is question her.
She glared at Fury, crossing her arms over her chest. “Do you guys have any plans at all? I mean, what if they try to get me back?”
Fury laughed at her briefly, and answered her. “One thing you’ll have to know, Miss Gray, is that the Avengers always have plans. So many plans, contingencies, backups that’ll make your pretty little head spin.”
“Do any of those include training me? You said it yourself after seeing Langley, if I don’t learn it, it’s likely that will happen again.”
“Maximoff’s a little busy right now. Until she is no longer busy, I think Barnes, Rogers and Romanoff can teach you the basics. How’s that for a plan?”
Laela lets out something between a scoff and a chuckle. “Beats being a lab rat 24/7, that’s for damn sure.”
“Meanwhile, I’ll keep Stark and Banner on your father’s research. Seems the most logical place to start, considering Stark seems fond of his work.”
Laela had forgotten that detail, the second she mentioned that once upon a time her father was a S.H.I.E.L.D researcher, Tony seemed to finally connect the dots at her name. Tony sounded pretty certain—a lot more certain than Laela was, actually, that his research helped shape some of Tony’s best inventions. While she was happy for him--well, as reasonably happy as anyone could be for a billionaire named Tony Stark-- to re-realize that fact of his own life, she couldn’t feel the same about it. Her father never really divulged the details of his research so she was never quite sure of what the hell he worked on.
She knew the surface level detail but never was given the opportunity to be let in deeper. Could she have asked more of him? Would he have told her anything? It’d remain one of the biggest regrets of her life.
At her exit, she notices Bucky in her peripheral vision.
“I didn’t peg you for the nosy type, Barnes,” Laela swiveled her head to look at him and was surprised to see a smirk on his face. She assumed that people in this place wouldn’t have much to smile at anymore. She even assumed that Bucky didn't have a muscle in his body that would allow him to smile. Sam told her only a few days prior that being around Bucky could be equally interesting and annoying at the same time.
Likening him to a puzzle or Rubik’s cube, all the pieces and all the colors just didn’t match up for her yet about him.
“I think the word you’re looking for is observant, Gray.” He crossed his arms over his chest, the smirk still ever present. “Besides, I’m a gentleman, it’s only right that since I brought you over here that I walk you back to your room.”
“I’ll be fine, don’t you have avenging business or something to do?” She asks, a quirk in her brow and little smirk to rival his.
“I was being nosy and heard that Fury wants me to train you so technically you’re my avenging business now.”
“He said us, plural. Not just you, Bucket,” she pointed out with a smirk. “Now, when do I meet the OG Cap and Black Widow?”
If there was one thing that would make this whole ordeal worth it, it’d be meeting them. She couldn’t understand why she had such a deep interest in these heroes. She certainly wouldn’t have imagined being amongst their ranks, still. That’s where her and her parents differed--surprisingly--well, her father and mother differed. She just went along with whoever she’d favor at that moment.
Elias Gray regaled tales of world mythologies, fascinated by the powers they possessed amongst other things. Tyana couldn’t understand the fascination and was often the more level-headed about things. Laela still couldn’t fathom how the two ever made things work.
“Don’t let Sam hear you say that, you might hurt his feelings.” He says plainly, before rolling his eyes at the name. “And don’t call me Bucket, you can’t make a nickname from another nickname.”
“He’s a big boy, he’ll be fine,” Laela laughed from where she stood. “So just James then?”
“Please, no, Bucky is just fine.”
“Okay, Bucky. So, training?”
“5 am.”
Laela’s face drops. “Are you psychopaths? Who gets up at 5 am?”
“ OG Cap and Black Widow do. Do you want to meet them or not?”
                                         ---
Laela tried to hide her eyes from the god awful brightness coming from the digital numbers on the alarm clock. She remembered the last time she got up this early was for school, which she always compared to prison. Being up before the morning light, the frumpy uniforms, and the annoying classmates. Bucky, true to his word, came to Laela’s room to make sure she was up at exactly 4:45.
Well, at least one thing could be said for waking up early, she didn’t have to wear that ugly uniform anymore and she’d get to meet Captain America.
Well, the former Captain America, at least.
He’s just as the pictures showed him to be, a blonde, blue-eyed All American boy and just as commanding as Laela imagined he’d be. And the same could be said for Black Widow. Mysterious, fiery red hair and an almost mischievous smirk ever present on her face, like she knew something about others but wouldn’t let on exactly what.
Their introductions are short, with Steve being more formal than necessary by addressing Laela by Miss Gray and ma’am within the first few minutes of speaking. Laela hated being addressed so formally but she could forgive him, to be fair, she’d already slipped up and referred to him as Captain within that same few minutes.
“I think you know we won’t go easy on you,” Steve spoke as they moved to the training mats.
“I’d be a little insulted if you felt you had to-“
In one swoop, Laela is sprawled out on the floor, lungs grasping at what air they could get and the ceiling above her blurring a bit. She kind of missed being snuggled in her bed now. How exactly did this teach anything? Other than how unprepared for fighting she was?
“You know, when they said men from the 40s swept women off their feet, this is not what I envisioned,” She groans out, the air barely coming back into her lungs. She could just barely make out in her vision Bucky snickering into his palm next to Natasha off to the side. Hardy har har, Barnes, you’ll get yours soon enough.
“Steve wouldn’t know a thing about that, his interaction with the opposite sex is limited,” Natasha seems to tease him as she offers a hand to Laela. “But don’t worry, he’ll have the training wheels off soon enough.”
“Shit.” Laela yelped, as the rest of her body seemed to realize little to no preparation for training to fight in any form had very real consequences on one’s body. Not that Laela didn’t know a few things from taking some boxing lessons, but she’s never really been a fighter.
Except maybe that one time in fifth grade, one of her classmates, Vanya was her name, had said something to piss her off and with all her might, she threw back her arm and sent it straight back into her stomach. It sent her doubling over and earned Laela the one, and only, detention she ever had.
This was no schoolyard fight in the slightest.
“I think that’s enough-“
Laela smiled and shook her head. “Eh, we just started. Give me a few hours and I’ll be a natural.”
At first, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Laela is, in fact, not a natural. A few knocked out teeth and bruising later, it’s almost like she’d known these moves all her life.
Another strange factor to this power was the healing. She only noticed it two days after her arrival to the compound. She hadn’t mentioned it, finding it was more of an advantage rather than another thing to worry about.
“Good job. You’re no Steve yet, but you’ll get there,” Natasha says.
“Yeah, well,” Laela managed to say, “Thanks for the review, I guess.”
Natasha’s response is overtaken by shouting and the furious, almost urgent stomping. Someone, who Laela finds out is Tony, grabs her arm and practically rips her arm off as he tugs her away from the training room.
Why did it seem like Laela was being taken from disaster to disaster?

----
The daylights were in full swing, the radio was high and bright as he drove down the road to a old house he used to call home. At the steps of the house stood a man he hasn't seen in the late 80s but never forgotten.
Above the steps stood the man with dark rich blonde curls spiked in a nicely manner, a blue colored shirt and black James Dean jeans wearing a pair of shades himself. He sipping on a cup of coffee with a half smile to boot.
He parked the car in the east side of the parkway as he existed the vehicle, flipping the keys in hand and removed his sunglasses with a smile.
As he took towards the step he heard the man said, "Hank."
"JJ." He replied, as he was handed a cup of warm coffee.
"What was the reason for this visit?"
"You got my email didn't you?"
"Yup."
"You missed seeing Hope."
"It was an 8 hour drive! You know how hard it was to get out of that house without Felton and Rei breathing down my neck?"
"This is why I stopped babysitting."
The blonde just playfully glared following the older one into his old home. Jason hasn't been in this house of his in more than a century, having took time to take care of his older one in Malibu. Yet, he never had the heart to throw away the keys, so instead he gave them to Hank. And by god, was he glad he did.
His old home was kept nice and cleaned, some mess here and there. A few dust particles in certain smaller areas but other than that it was fine. Keeping its cozy yet vintage style. Hank sat down on the grey couch that used to be a dark brown, sipping his second morning coffee taking in the moment of peace. Jason sat in the armchair beside him closing his eyes.
Neither man had to say a word to know that they missed the peace and quiet this house brought. No screaming children, calls from SHIELD, nor nagging neighbors trying to get you to babysit their dumb dog for the weekend. Just a moment of total silence from the world around them.
Yes, truth be told, after 1989 Hank was never seen again towards SHIELD's main offices due to his stupid fallout with Howard and the others. But he often kept in touch with people like him or Peggy, whenever possible. Mainly because Hope wanted to see her aunts and uncles, and after Janet's passing Hank couldn't deprive his daughter from not having any closer family or friends around.
Jason tended to be his go-to person whenever he needed a quick babysitter for Hope, whenever the blonde was in town and he happily said yes. He first thought Hank would want nothing to do with him after what Howard pulled on the man, but after a small debate on that very day both men realized they couldn't hold grudges against each other.
They already had too many grudges over their heads to even count, why add another? It would only lead to a bigger headache anyways.
So over the years, Hank and Jason would put aside a small time to check in on one another. Make sure the other man wasn't dead yet. It was a running joke on who would die first out of the two. But at this rate, knowing the people in their lives, they won't let them get bury in the ground so easily.
Yet.
He peaked an eye open as he rested his head and asked, "JJ? You got what I sent you?"
The others eyes were still closed as he hummed, "Yeah. I sent the small package and if I'm correct, it will be brought though word of mouth soon enough."
"Good. I hope this guys is worth it. If he's smart enough, he will do as I planned."
"Why Scott Lang anyway? I gave you a list of people you can choose from and you chose him..."
"Scott Lang broke into Vistacorp Headquarters to pay back the money VistaCorp had been stealing from their users, before he brought into prison. Heard of it?"
"Yeah, he pulled strong a stunt risking to pay back all that money they took. According to the file, he has a master degree in electrical engineering, which gave him the skills to hack into their grid."
Hank smirked, "That's why I need him. He has a special set of skills as a hacker and thief. I want to test him, see if he's able to play the game right."
"If he can break into the lock and steal the suit, then he was a right fit." Jason added with a grin, "..he also has a daughter Hank. You know better than anyone the length you would go to see your kid. Chances are, he ends up in jail again."
"He won't."
"Hank."
"I have a plan. Trust me on this one."
"And I'll be here to say 'I told you so' when it goes sideways."
The two crack a chuckle knowing it was bound to happen whether they liked it or not. But if the plan does end up going sideways, they always had other ways of doing things. Even if it meant going undercover to bait Scott Lang into the older man's plan. Both spent the rest of the day catching up, watching some tv and grabbing a bite to eat.
None of the Young Avengers knew that Jason was gone for a short couple of days. Well, some of them noticed as he has been receiving calls from a few thought the day. Mainly ones from Rei, Liane, Rochelle, Ji-Hoon, Lydia and even Wanda. Hank commented how he was still amazed he hasn't lost his head yet.
"Who said I haven't?" Jason joked with a small chuckle.
"Who's watching them?" He asked in returning smiling.
"Elizabeth, Nat and Bruce. I hope."
"Oh dear god. Now, I gotta know, who's the hardest to watch over?"
"Depends on the day. Rei is the easiest at most, Rochelle is rather shy and hangs out with her friends..but Liane.."
"Felton's what? Oh. You can't lie to me, and not say Rei Stark doesn't turn your gears one bit."
"Rei does make me question my life choices, but I love him to death. Felton, she is a handful and a total bitch at times. It's why I always hand her off to Hill to taken care of. I need my silence."
That caused Hank to snort and laugh. He knew the man was too polite to say anything to harsh per say, not knowing who's around to hear him but if possible he will let a rip.
"Now that's the Jason I know, call it how it is!" He shouted as he tossed a chip into his mouth, "Half of them ain't even your kids."
The blonde smirked nodding, knowing the grey man's words to be truth. There are good couple of them aren't his legally or even raised them from childhood, but a part of him does care. Even if he wants to shut up half the time.
Hell, even the ants joined in on the fun. They are 247 of them after all, the ants were bound to make their appearance in carrying items around and or, helping them with alerting any incoming news on the heist they were waiting to happen.
--------
------------
Later on, that very night they went to the basement as they turned on the lights to reveal a high tech level of security cameras, microphones and chairs laying around. It was linked up to whatever humanity possible can find, in this case, the ants.
They watched Scott break into his house, as Hank seemed impressed by his work giving Jason a couple of approved nods, as they kept rolling the tape. The handy work, the levels of patience and precision Scott Lang had was amazing. His quick thinking and ways he moved around the area at quick speed was something he could only imagine to do when he was back in the 40s. Hank used to think and move that fast in the late 80s. More or less.
Without a better matter of minutes he took the suit and ran. They spend the better part of the next day, watching Scott and see what he would do.
That he was expandable. And that he was. Jason chocked out a laugh at how freaked out he was as Hank talked into the coms. Sadly of course, the moment he returned the suit, he was caught red handed by the cops.
It was Hope's doing. She didn't know much about the man or the fact that he had a track record he was trying to maintain. Which led Hank to toss a pair of suits over to Jason, telling him it's time to lawyer up, as the man rolled his eyes at his friend.
Once they were in the prison, Scott Lang was brought into a room confused more the most part, not understanding who they were. He didn't know about the fact that he had a lawyer watching after him. They told him second chances don't always come easily, especially for men like him, next time he gets one, he should take a closer look onto what it is. And he's smart enough, he will listen to them.
Thankfully he did, as Hank ordered the ants to get Scott escape the jail cell and be brought home that night. However the man got dizzy and past out, resulting him to be knocked out cold in one the guest bedrooms of the house.
Hank's house, since he had more tech and landscape to work around than Jason did. As they waited for him to wake up, the blonde went out grab some more supplies and food. He was hungry.
When he returned home with the items needed, entering quietly through the front door he heard it. Hope was here. He should've known she would've made an appearance at some point.
Tumblr media
"Please tell me you didn't call JJ." She said looking at her father with her arms crossed.
"I didn't call JJ." Her father responded with a sigh, trying to enjoy his tea.
"He is busy right now."
"I didn't call him."
She pointed to the brown leather jacket that was on the chair beside her. The one she gave the blonde years ago for a birthday present when she was in high school. Her father said he was borrowing it from the man's closet when he went to check on his home.
"You liar. Like always. Just say that you did." Hope remarked.
Hank groaned, "I emailed him."
"You tipped him. Dragging his ass here, for what? I can handle the mission myself!"
"No, you can't! He needed one-"
"You never listen to me!"
"Hope!"
She looked over her shoulder at face the voice who called out her name like an old memory. Only to find her uncle standing there with a stern look on his face, his usual cheeky grin was exchanged for a pair of lined smile and frustrated eyes that glared into her soul. He made her feel like a child again, getting in trouble for yelling at her father or running away from school grounds to play with her friends.
She looked down, feeling less than, muttering a soft 'sorry' in his direction as he simply nodded. He shook his head and sighed at his niece. He hated seeing them fight, he knew they had their reasons but she walked away a long time ago, just to prove a point to her father that she was worth it. And she already was.
"I didn't know..I uh, would've liked a heads up that you were coming..." She admitted for being silent for a moment.
He placed the bag of groceries on the table as he gave her a small half smile, "I know..but I knew you would've said otherwise and convince me to stay home."
"You don't have to be here. I can handle this."
"I know. But I'm here now, it's not like I'm going to waste a long drive just to be stuck at home listening to ABBA on the radio."
"Still. You should've-"
"Hope. Just don't. What's done is done. I came at my own risk and I won't be staying long, just to make sure a few things are in check."
"..I uh, I missed you."
"I did too."
She pulled her arms out to be taking in by his embrace. The warmth of his hugs always felt like a nice blanket as he wrapped her arms around him and kissed her forehead. She rested her head against his shoulder having another moment of silence to relax, sending a small glare to her father. She chuckled hearing her uncle brought her favorite ice cream from Basin Robins to help ease the tension, causing a tiny grunt from Hank. Her uncle smirked and told her to get Scott as she pulled away with a small smile.
When Hope walked out, he turned around to see his old friend sending daggers swords him. Jason just shrugged, "What?"
"You can't win her over with ice cream and hugs." He remarked.
"Yes I can. That's my job as the uncle. Make you look bad, so you want to work harder for her affection."
"That's not how it's supposed to work."
"That's exactly how it's supposed to work."
Soon enough, Scott and Hope joined them in the dinning room, as they talked trying to explain the situation to the confused brunette. Hope and Hank bricked as they did, as Jason tried to defuse the issue at hand introducing the trio. Scott listened along, trying to piece together everything they said, hearing how they were impressed with his work as well. He was offered some sugar, watching the ants push it around.
"H-how do you make them do that?" Scott asked pointing to the said ants, watching one climb onto Jason's finger with ease.
"Ants can lift objects 50 times their size. They can build farms. Corporate with each other." Hank explained.
"Right. But how do you make them do that?"
"I used electromagnetic waves to stimulate their factor's nerves center using a device. I speak to the Ants. I can go anywhere, see everything and hear everything."
"And still know absolutely nothing. I'm late for a meeting." Hope injects with a clear tone, pressing a kiss to her uncles cheek and a nod to her father.
"Be safe!" Jason calls out with a half smile, sipping his tea.
"Always am!"
With that she walks out. Scott raised an hand asking who the hell they are, what the hell is going on and if he could back to jail. Jason rolled his eyes telling both men to follow him.
Tumblr media
They walked and talked heading down to the basement to reveal a small headquarters as Scott looked around in awe. Hank explained the suit and his role in this as Jason finished setting up a few things adding in a jab or two as he went along.
"Pym tech? SHIELD?" Scott said muttering under his breathe as he followed their voices.
"Darren Cross had heard rumors around the Pym Particles. Something that both companies tried to keep under lock and key, with only a few knowing it existed." Jason explained.
"And he became obsessed with recreating my formula." Hank continued to explain holding a vial of Pym particles, "But I wouldn't help. So he partially voted me out of my own company. Hope was chairmen of the board, so that helped. But she came back to me when she saw how close he was with his process. But without a suit, the brain isn't protected."
"Causing a fiery sensational effect that can make the brain unstable. And Cross hasn't realized that part yet. So with our luck, he'll die."
"Be nice, JJ. Cross isn't the most stable guy to begin with."
Scott listen then asked, "So what do you want from me?"
Both men exchange a look as Hank walked over to Scott Lang and told him he believed in second chances for everyone. A redemption. Saying that if he does that, he can start a new path and get some insight wiped off his records. Scott looked pleased declaring that he will go along with the plan of theirs. Within a couple of hours, they all got to work.
Scott began to start training how to use the suit, understanding the plan and communicating with the idea on how to get into the building. He got learn about the concept of the ants and their behavior in the process of the world. Hope and Jason offered to teach Scott some fighting techniques to help him later on. Hope smirked getting a good swing at Scott punching him hard enough he fell backwards, as Jason snorted at their dynamic play between the tackles to the ground.
———-
—————
It got to a certain point where Scott was given the opportunity to learn how to control the ants. Hank acted as director for him, telling him to focus having faith that he can do it. Scott tried but it didn’t work. Hope groan annoyed telling him how he needed to commit to communicating with them, he has to mean it. The father daughter duo, once again began to argue over the subject. Jason reminded them on how the focus should be on helping Scott with the trails.
“Really? That’s where our focus should be?” Hope said, taking the device used for the ants and held it close to her ear controlling to do more than just add sugar to the tea. She caused to room to darken as the ants blocked out the lights, Hank caught her before she can act by further. Her voice broke as she muttered a few words at her father and sighed before exiting the room.
Hank knew he couldn’t do it without her. Since day one she has requested to be put in the suit, do the trails and get the mission accomplished herself, but her father refused every request she made. Jason knew the reason why. Scott noticed the problem being a father himself and went out to talk to her, hoping to knock some sense into Hope and have her see behind the act.
The two were alone in the house, standing in awkward silence as the moment of Hope’s departure replayed in their heads. Hank walked around the first floor, fumbling with a small piece of dice he found in the living room as Jason watched from the window the car sitting in the driveway with the two figures talking inside.
He broke the silence with a scoff, biting in the inside of his cheek as he said, “You have to tell her.”
“No.” He muttered in response, knowing exactly what he meant by those words.
“If you want her on your side, you have to break the ice here. She knows Janet didn’t die cause of some accident involving a plane. I know it’s painful for you, Hank, but she deserves to know.”
“Like you told Stark about his parents death.”
That silence Jason quicker than expected. He remembered how Howard and Maria died, when he was at his lowest moments during the holiday season. He told Tony what he knew and what he only could’ve revealed of that painful memory, going as far as to show him the photographs he dug up a few days later from news reports. Hank might’ve had a falling out with Howard but he was at the damn funeral for a short period of time before returning home.
Hank knew he hit a nerve and continued, “You couldn’t even wrap your head around fact that you lost them. Worse, telling a child their mother died and they never had the chance to say goodbye. I lost Janet that day because of my misfortunes during the mission.”
“I know, I heard the story. I can only imagine how you felt when it happened, when she shrunk down to that size..” Jason added trying to find his voice again.
“Please, don’t remind me, Jason, she went sub-atomic...”
“And you tried to get her back by studying for weeks on an answer to get her back”
“I made a mistake letting her come with me..I was stupid enough to let that happen..you know how hard it is for me just to relive that experience again…Hope might hate me when she finds out..”
“I know, she might but she will forgive you…Hank..you and I have made a lot mistakes in the past 3 decades. We made decisions that we aren’t proud of..thinking we are protecting them from harm..”
“That’s the whole point! That’s our job, to keep them safe and not be heartbroken by the truth. You only gave Stark the benefit of the doubt about his parents death and how it affected the outcome, you said he hated the world for it..I can’t tell her..we have secrets for a reason..”
“Yeah well, Tony could care less about his father…How about you only tell her what you can? When the time comes where she asks for more, you go into more detail about what happened. You are driving her away now…I know you hate the looks she gives you. You said it yourself..”
There was an unspoken number of casualties among those accidents that occurred during the death of their loved ones. Only so much information, they kept closed to their chest to prevent others suffering in those moments. The amount of consequences to their loved ones being gone felt like a huge blow to the head and stuffed around in secret.
Hank knew that, especially with the fact that his very friend lost more than he can chew.
He felt sorry for bringing it up, but it just didn’t occur to him the words would impact that hard. Hell, the memories of his wife were still so fresh in his brain like it was yesterday.
Hank ran a couple of fingers cross his hair muttering, “Sorry for bringing that up. It’s just…”
“I know..I know. But you do need to let her know what happened that day.” Jason responded taking a breath to regain himself.
That was when Hope and Scott returned from the car, about to say something but was cut off by Hank’s statement. He had a hand against the fireplace beforehand turning around to face the two of them, to face his daughter with the truthful remarks she desires to know. He slowly but surely explained what he could to his daughter onto what happened to her mother as her voice broke mumbling a few questions.
He did in best to answer them. It hurt to talk about it, as it felt like he was reliving the same day all over again. She wanted to know more but her thoughts didn’t seem to allow her to think straight as she teared up even more. Hank just told her in the end he lost her mother, he didn’t mean to lose his daughter too.
Scott ruined the moment with a quippy response that caused Jason to roll his eyes, telling him to go make some tea. Afterwards the four of them got back to work on training Scott and working with the plans they had in motion.
———-
At some point, Jason went upstairs to get something to eat and suddenly got another set of calls. He sighed deeply knowing they must've been from Liane or Rei, he ignored knowing it was probably something they could've handle themselves. They had to learn how to get along and figure out solutions to things without an actual adult fixing it entirely for them.
With a deep sigh he answered, “Hello?”
“Jason! Aha we might got an issue at the compound—dude shut up!” Said the voice that clearly belonged to Liane.
“Okay, who burnt the toaster again? Wait why are you at The Compound anyway? Your supposed to be at The Tower..”
“The adults went out on a small scale meeting, so we were left alone. Long story short, we had an incident at The Tower and decided to visit The Compound for breakfast instead—Ughhh Rei be quiet! Rick calm it’s gonna be fine—I was saying, we came here and Sam made us breakfast…and then..”
“Then what? Liane spit it out or put Rei on the phone.”
“Then we saw an issue and Sam told us to stay inside.”
Just as Liane and Rei’s voices were heard, along with the other members in the background, Jason was called downstairs by Hank to check on something. And let’s just say, he wanted to punch the older man for his actions. From the panels on the screen, shots of Scott fighting The Falcon to get inside Avengers Compound. Hope half smiled, annoyed and confused by Scott’s actions.
Tumblr media
It was honestly hilarious yet stressful.
He put the phone call on mute as he whispered, “Hank, what the hell?! You said that the item you were looking for was at an old building, not Avengers Compound!”
“I didn’t know that it was remodeled after all this time! You could’ve said something.” Hank remarked looking up at the blonde from his seat.
“You weren’t speaking of the specifics either! Oh god..Scott better get out of there.”
“He’ll be fine. Besides he’s fighting an Avenger, this can be taken as part of his training for the next assignment. What are you worried about?”
“Half of the other avengers are inside the building now and they’re a little terrified.”
Hope said an eyebrow confused onto what her uncle meant until she heard the voices over the phone and almost immediately laughed at the sound.
She couldn’t make out the voices very well but one caught her ears as she asked, “Is that Felton? Since when is she freaked out over something like this, isn’t she an Avenger?”
Jason just shrugged at this point and responded, “It’s a great mystery to all of this. And yes that was her. I can already picture Rei’s annoyed expressions. Whatever we do, we just have to get Scott out there and fast.”
“Or they might call the other heroes for assistance. Damn it.”
“Days like this, I wish my retirement plan was completely different.”
“You can always come stay with me instead. Wait, I’m still in the Will right?”
He winked at her meaning a clear ‘yes you are, honey.’ As they both returned their focus back onto the screen watching Hank navigate Scott across the field to fight Falcon, suddenly they lost visual contact with him as the ants couldn’t see what was happening inside. It went silent as the only sound came from the cell phone in Jason’s hand.
He raised the phone up his ear to respond, “Whatever happens stay instead. I’ll be there in a couple of hours to check up on—”
“About time you picked up the damn phone!” Yelled the voice that belonged to his first godson.
“Rei?! What happened to Liane?”
“I took it off her hands, she went to help calm Rick and the others down or whatever. I really don’t care. Do I have permission to take her down Felton and shut off the systems?”
“Permission granted—wait, hold off on shutting down the systems for a few minutes and then reboot The Compound.”
“Does that mean I’m in charge of everything?”
“Does it mean the house won’t be fire when I come over to check on you guys?”
“Yes sir.”
“Then you’re in charge. And please get a hold of an adult!”
The phone called ended with Rei’s voice being heard over the speaker as you can imagine the others not sounding too pleased about the news. Jason just smirked already picturing their faces as he watched the panels of Scott escaping and Falcon on the floor. Him and Hank fist bump at the process of the mission turning out decently well.
He knew Hank was gonna have a talk with Scott on his actions and how he handled it, but Jason knew based on the files that Scott must’ve gotten the item needed for the job.
And he was right.
Hope was very impressed with what he did as her father sighed in relief at the assignment being completed. Scott Lang had skills and knowledge to be used on a battlefield one day, possibly even a hero. The four of them talked about upcoming events that were set in motion as Jason texted his nephew for updates on the situation from earlier as it seemed like things have calmed down over there.
He will need to drive over there to check up on them later.
As of now, all he knew is that the four of them were headed into a very dangerous environment within the incoming hours. Especially after Darren Cross’s appearance at the household, assuming he was just speaking with Hank Pym, as the others were silently standing in the kitchen.
The next couple of hours were gonna be a wild ride.
