After denying you are anything other then friends for as long as you can, you finally tell them how you really feel about him... and why you know he will never feel the same. The night goes from bad to worse when you realize Loki overheard you talking to them and you try to hide from him.
A/N: I know I promised this would be all fluff but you should know not to listen to me lol also... I know this part got really long, I didn't want to make it three parts though

You leave the common room in a hurry and head down one long hallway then another. Stopping short at the end of the hall, you realize in your haste to get away from Loki and your friends, you've gone in the wrong direction. Instead of going towards the elevators so you could make your escape from the Tower, you found yourself at the library. You curse under your breath and wonder how you could be this careless. Turning around slowly, you know the only way to get to the elevators is to go back the way you came.
Your phone vibrates as you stand in front of the tall door, deciding if you should go in and try to hide here for the night or go back and risk running into Nat and Wanda or worse, Loki. Checking your phone, you see 10 new messages in your group chat as well as a missed call from both Wanda and Nat. Your finger hovers over the chat but you don't open it, you know they are worried about you but you can't talk to anyone right now. You just want to pretend the whole night never happened.
Turning off your phone, you take a deep breath then push open the door to the library. Wandering slowly through the large room, you make your way up one aisle of books and down another. You try not to think of how much the space reminds you of Loki but it is nearly impossible to keep him out of your thoughts. You make your way towards the back of the library, the part that reminds you of him the most. When you reach the last aisle you can't help but pause, remembering the last time you were here with him.
One day last week, Loki and you had made plans to get takeout and watch the final few episodes of a TV show you had both become overly invested in. He hadn't responded to your text about what he wanted to order so you went to his room but he wasn't there. You smiled to yourself, knowing exactly where he would be hiding as you headed down to the library. He would spend hours reading in the furthest corner with a cup of tea forgotten about but kept warm by his magic. Everyone on the team knew he was not to be interrupted when he was there, it was his escape after a difficult mission or a disagreement with his brother. This rule didn't apply to you however, Loki had made it clear to you that you were always welcome.
When you found him, he was sitting on the end of one of the couches reading a thick leather bound book. It was easy to see how lost he was in the story, his eyes shifted back and forth as he read the words quickly before turning the page. You leaned against one of the shelves watching him silently, not wanting to disturb him. After a few moments, he looked up and saw you waiting for him. He closed the book and apologized for losing track of time, he had meant to reply to your message but he wanted to finish the chapter he was reading.
You laughed, "How many chapters ago was that?"
He opened the book again and began to flip backwards, closing it with a smirk, "Six."
You moved to sit next to him then you picked up the book from where he had set it on the table. "What's it about?" you asked curiously as you looked at the foreign words on the pages.
When he finished telling you about the book you were hooked and quickly asked if he could help you find a copy in English you could read. His face fell slightly at your request and he responded, "Unfortunately, it is one that I brought from my personal library on Asgard." He paused, noticing how disappointed you looked. After a moment he smiled and said, "I could read it to you if you'd like."
You shake the memory away, Loki is supposed to start reading the story to you tomorrow but that might never happen now. Your heart begins to pound in your chest as you hear the door to the library slowly open and close with a light thud. Staying completely still and silent, you wait for someone to speak but instead you hear heavy footsteps and know instantly they don't belong to Nat or Wanda, it's Loki.
"Y/N, are you in here?" he calls out from the front of the library.
At first you don't respond, hoping he will go away but then you hear him coming closer. You walk backwards until your back hits a wall and you slide down so you are sitting against it. You hear him come to a stop a few aisles from you and at first you are unsure what he is doing. You bite your lip anxiously but then you hear your own voice, it's your voicemail message. He groans in frustration as he hangs up without leaving a message. His footsteps begin again, still coming closer as he makes his way down the next aisle.
"Y/N?" he tries again, you can hear the concern in his voice while he looks for you. "I know you didn't leave the Tower," he says and you curse yourself again for having made a wrong turn.
"Please... just go away Loki," you finally respond and his movement stops.
"Can we talk?" he asks over the shelves of books. You shake your head even though you know he can't see you. "I just need to know you are ok," he says.
"I'm fine," you answer with a sniffle as you wipe your eyes. You hadn't realized you had begun crying again.
He sighs, "I don't need to be the God of Lies to know that isn't true." He waits to see if you will answer and when you don't he starts to walk towards you again.
His footsteps become louder and slower when he reaches the aisle you are hiding in. He doesn't say anything and you don't look up, still hoping he will leave but you know now he won't. Instead you feel him sit next to you on the ground and gently place one arm around you, his hand slowly moving up and down your upper arm. You can't help but lean into him, allowing him to pull you closer.
Your mind wanders back to the only time you had ever hugged Loki in the six months you've known each other. A few days after you had begun talking everyday he had to leave for a mission and was gone for a little over a week. The data retrieval mission was ultimately labeled a success despite the intel being outdated and Loki getting injured. Thankfully, it was a shallow wound and he healed before the jet landed at the compound but that didn't stop you from worrying about him. You hadn't meant to hug him but the minute you saw him, you ran up to him and wrapped your arms around him tightly, telling him you were glad he was back. For an agonizingly long second, he didn't hug you back and you thought you had done something wrong but then his tall frame relaxed and he leaned down to hug you back. You could have stayed like that forever, closing your eyes as you pressed your cheek to his chest. Suddenly his phone began to ring and his hand left your back so he could talk to whichever woman he was supposed to see that weekend. As soon as he answered the call, you let go of him and walked quietly to your office, not looking back to see if he noticed you had gone.
Your memory caused you to shift uncomfortably and Loki loosened the gentle hold he had of you, allowing you to pull away. You look away from him and say again, "I'm fine, you don't have to stay."
"You are not fine and I'm not leaving," he says in a soothing voice as he touches your cheek lightly, wiping away your tears. "We can talk or we can sit here in silence all night, it is up to you," he tells you and you nod at the choices.
You sniffle and clear your throat before asking, "How... how much did you hear Loki?"
He rubs his hands together slowly, a gesture you know he only does when he is anxious, "I heard Wanda bring up Exhibit B and... I'm sorry I know I should have left, I did not plan on interrupting your girls night but I was curious." Your mouth falls open in disbelief, you had hoped he only heard the end of your rant about being in love with him, but he had heard almost everything the three of you talked about. You sit in silence next to him, not sure what to say so he continues. "Rogers and I completed our mission early and I only went to the common room to let you know I was back. I wanted to see you for just a moment, I've missed you so much the last two days," he says.
You look up at him, your mind trying to register what he had said. Loki had never told you he missed you before, even when he had been away on longer missions.
"I have to admit, I thought it was a bit silly that Natasha and Wanda were so adamant that we were dating in secret because-" he starts to explain.
"Because you would obviously never date me," you interrupt him without thinking. "Because you wouldn't want to be with someone who looked like me," you say as you cross your arms over your chest and look down. "I know, you only date tall, skinny, beautiful women and I am not one of them, it was pathetic of me to even pretend you might be vaguely interested in me."
"No, Y/N, that's not why," he says firmly but he can tell you aren't listening to him. "Please, look at me love."
The pet name is almost too much for you at the moment, you get up from the floor as quickly as you can without saying a word. You take a few steps away from him but stop when you feel his fingers close around your wrist. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry I ever said anything," you whisper as you look at the ground. "I should have just kept my stupid feelings to myself, I've ruined everything."
Loki pulls on your wrist slightly causing you to turn towards him as he walks closer to you. He stands directly in front of you, his other hand strokes your cheek then follows your jawline until he can gently lift your chin. You look up at him and he smiles in return then suddenly your heart begins to race as you realize Loki is closing the distance between your lips and his. He kisses you softly, his hand never leaving your chin while his other hand lets go of your wrist and settles on your lower back.
When his lips leave yours, you look up at him in utter shock and he chuckles lightly, "Can I speak now?" All you can do is nod as you search for words. "The reason I thought it was silly, is because if we were dating," he says with a smirk, "I would never keep it a secret. I would want everyone to know that you are mine and I am yours." You stare at him still not able to form a proper sentence.
"Do you know why I never go on dates anymore?" he asks after a moment of silence passes between you.
You shrug, finally able to speak again as he removes his hand from your chin but not your back, "Not really, it was right after we started hanging out. We never talked about it but... I just assumed you were tired of Steve and Tony telling you to slow down before you slept with every woman in New York City or because Fury would get really angry when your dates ended up in the tabloids."
"I would need to value the opinion of the three of them if either of those were the real reason," he says and you look at him confused.
"I'm not sure why then," you admit.
"I stopped going out because I had no need of them, I found someone I wanted to be with for more than just one night," he tells you. "Do you remember the first night we spent time together, just the two of us?" You nod and he smiles. "Gods, you were so adorably nervous when you asked me if I wanted to watch a movie with you. I never told you this but I was looking forward to it so much, I forgot to cancel my date that night. I had several very angry text messages when I finally checked my phone the next morning."
Before you can stop yourself you ask, "Wait, you want me to believe that you were so excited to watch a movie with me, you literally forgot to text a super model back?"
He corrects you, "I'm not sure if that one was a model or an actress, they all blurred together after a while and I honestly couldn't tell you the name of the movie we watched either." He pauses, taking note of your growing confusion. "Y/N, I had been wanting to get to know you outside of our few work interactions since you started at SHIELD and when you asked me to spend time with you, I was thrilled but also a bit shocked."
You look down at your shoes and whisper, "Nat dared me."
"She what?" he asks.
"Nat knew I had a crush on you so she dared me to talk to you more," you tell him. "She suggested we watch a movie but I told her you would be busy with more interesting things and there was no way you would ever agree to it... but then you did and I kinda panicked. I almost didn't show up for the movie but Nat practically dragged me to the common room. I'm glad she did though, cause otherwise we never would have gotten to be friends," you say with a laugh but your smile fades when you see he isn't smiling back. "Loki?" you ask.
"I've wanted to be more than your friend for so long Y/N but no matter how hard I try, you never let me in. Even something as simple as wanting to give you a compliment. You would come back with a sarcastic comment or a self-deprecating joke to bring yourself down. I don't like how you talk about yourself, love," he says.
"That's my defense mechanism," you tell him. "I- I thought you were just a shameless flirt because of the stories I've heard from Thor and the fact that you call everyone darling. When you say I'm beautiful or perfect I just- I would make jokes to remind myself that I wasn't either of those things and it was just your personality."
"But you are Y/N both of those things and more," he tells you and you can feel a blush creep across your cheeks. "Calling women darling is nothing more than an old habit," he touches your warm cheeks and you look up at him. "You are the only one I call love," he reminds you with a smile.
You can't help but giggle at the pet name he uses so frequently with you, "I had noticed that but I thought-"
"Stop," he says softly. "No more excuses," he urges and you nod.
"Y/N", he says seriously, "You are everything I have ever wanted. I love that I can spend hours on end talking to you or we can simply sit together and read in comfortable silence. It makes me feel lucky to know you worry about me when I am on missions and you are here, waiting for me to return. We have so many similar interests but you still manage to teach me new things constantly. I can't tell you how much I enjoy seeing this city with you every weekend and I wish I could bring you to see Asgard one day. I want to spend every minute I can with you," he pauses to chuckle lightly, "That's part of why I insist on you staying the night so often. I sleep better when you are the last person I see at night and the first person I see in the morning. You are caring and quirky, intelligent, sweet and you are perfect."
You stand in front of Loki in silence as your heart feels like it is about to explode with excitement. You smile from ear to ear, having never in your wildest dreams thought this was possible.
He puts his arms around you and pulls you flush against him. "I cannot believe you thought something as trivial as your weight would keep me from falling in love with you," he says.
You can't help but shrug, "I guess it sounds kinda silly when you say it like that."
He smiles, one hand firmly on your lower back while his other hand runs up and down your arm lightly. You look up at him, your arms around his waist. "I want to date you Y/N," he says simply.
"I would really, really like that," you tell him and he laughs at how excited you sound. He leans down to kiss you again and this time you kiss him back. When he breaks the kiss, his fingers gently follow the chain of your necklace until he is holding the charm in his hand.
"This is very pretty, my love, but I would like to make one small adjustment to it. Would you mind?" he asks and you nod, curious to see what he will do to it.
He closes his fingers around the small gold flower and a green glow spreads over his knuckles. When he opens his hand a few seconds later, the clear stone that was in the center of the flower is now a deep emerald green, the same shade as Loki's cape. You smile and say, "Green is my favorite color."
He chuckles, "I know, it's one of the many things I love about you." You kiss his cheek and thank him, he knew you had wanted the necklace with a green stone but the artist had sold out of those before you could buy one.
You take Loki's hand and bite your lip, "Um, so it's pretty late."
He smiles, "It is."
"Should I stay with you tonight?" you ask Loki.
"I think that would be a fantastic idea," he answers.
The two of you walk quietly through the Tower, back to his room still holding hands tightly. He opens the door to his apartment and lets you walk in first. As soon as he closes the door he puts one arm around your waist and pulls you close to him again. He leans down to kiss you then suddenly he picks you up. You giggle in surprise and put your arms around his neck as he carries you through the living room towards his bedroom, his lips never leaving yours. He walks towards the bed then turns so he can fall onto it backwards with you on top of him.
As soon as his back hits the mattress you pull back from the kiss and instinctively try to move off of him. He lets go of you with one arm but keeps the other around you loosely. He moves your hair behind your ear and is concerned by your sudden change in expression.
"Have I done something wrong? We can stop, I didn't mean to go too far," he says in a worried tone.
"No, no, it's nothing you did," you say as you look away from him. "It's just... I'm too big to be on top of you like this. My ex used to complain about it, he said I was too heavy and-"
Loki kisses your cheek softly, stopping you mid-sentence. He makes sure you are looking into his eyes and he smiles. "Y/N... I carried you here," he says. "And I laid down first so I would be under you."
You blink slowly as you look at him beneath you, "You did."
"Which means..." he starts, hoping you will finish his thought.
"Which means... you don't think I'm too heavy?" you ask slowly.
"My love, I don't know many things about your ex but I do know that he never deserved you if that is how he spoke to you," he says. "You don't need to worry about that pathetic mortal anymore. You belong to a... how did you put it? Ah yes, a freaking prince and a god," he laughs a bit and you can't help but smile when he says you belong to him. "You know, I think I might have a talk with my brother about having my official title adjusted."
You giggle and bury your face in the crook of his neck, finally relaxing and allowing your body to settle onto Loki's. He hugs you tightly and whispers, "I need you to remember something for me Y/N, I don't love you because of your body or in spite of it, I love you wholly and completely, every part of you because you are perfect." You nod, taking in his words as he runs his fingers through your hair. "I will not let anyone speak ill of my queen," he tilts your chin so you are looking at him, "And that includes you. I want you to tell me if these ugly thoughts return to that beautiful mind of yours."
"I promise," you tell him quietly and he guides your lips back to his.
"We should probably get some sleep," Loki says and you agree. "Should I sleep on the couch or..." he pauses. You don't move from where you are laying and mumble with your eyes closed. "I have no idea what you said," he laughs.
"I want to cuddle," you say clearer, picking your head up a bit.
"Cuddles it is," he agrees with a smile.
The two of you get under the covers after quickly putting on clothes to sleep in. Loki lays on his back and you curl up with your head on his chest again, listening to his heartbeat as you close your eyes.
He kisses the top of your head while his fingers trace small circles on your back. "You know," he says quietly, "There is something else Nat and Wanda were right about.
"Hmm?" you mumble, barely listening to him as you drift off to sleep.
"Well, it does seem silly for you to keep paying rent on your apartment when you could just live here with me," he says.
You sit up just as he shuts the light off. "Goodnight love," he says with a smirk.

Bucky was going to lose his mind. He already bent two forks. Loki was deeply sighing and then winced as he heard Steve’s clawing guffaw.
“Why is she with him?” Sam verbalises Bucky’s entire thought process for the past half hour. You haven’t seen the three of them yet and Bucky watches as you don’t touch much of your food over the conversation. They can’t hear anything apart from Steve either laughing or talking on his phone mid conversation. It had been about two weeks since they last saw you at the SHEILD announcement.
Bucky stares at his phone, it had been three days since he had emailed you to try and clear the air you had refused to respond to calls, texts or Instagram DMs.
The way he spoke still stung you. He couldn’t blame you. He wanted to apologise make things right.
You only extended your communication to offer expertise for giving him a breakdown of his character, which he knew he did require but only after the script read would it be heavily needed by him.
Loki had tried to speak to you as well but you had politely declined to discuss anything other than helping him understand his character. He had tried but in vain to have you understand that he genuinely wanted a friendship. Ultimately, Loki decided to give you your space, it didn’t mean he did not get mad at Buck.
Sam had decided to keep in touch via Yelena, she became the point of contact which you appreciated. The topics never strayed from work on occasion Sam would speak to you personally but never pushed for anything that was uncomfortable.
One evening he did ask you if you would like to meet Bucky again at Winnie’s Nook. He knew your answer would be a no, but when he relayed the message Bucky’s face had fallen. Sam only seemed more disappointed in him.
Tonight’s dinner was a joint effort at trying to come up with a plan to make things right with you. However seeing Bucky react to Steve and you being together, Loki and Sam exchanged glances that the plan would have to be fast tracked.
You look at Steve as he speaks on the phone for the umpteenth time. Keeping your cool you push around the remaining food on the plate. Most of your appetite lost after his passing comment on the small portion size and if it would suffice for you. The restaurant is much different than Winnie’s Nook, it lacked the warmth. It even lacked a view.
This place was a cross between ridiculously expensive looking and filled by what you can only assume a whose who of various illustrious careers.
It was a shame, you stare at your plate, the dish was good. You take a few bites trying to shove away thoughts as Steve looks towards the side yapping away. You wonder if he even requires this meeting. He had formulated an opinion on your character publicly. You bite the inside of your cheek as he cuts the call.
“Sorry about that, you know how things in Hollywood get, ah sorry first big break of yours,” he grins looking at you, “Now, why would you create such a weak ass character?”
“I prefer calculative to describe him.” You defend, don’t stab him with your spoon, don’t stab him with your spoon. You chant.
Steve smirks, “Oh Sweetheart,”
You have to hide your disgust at the irritating nickname.
“I’ve written a book too, I know weak characters intimately. Rhys is another story of weak but my character oh he suffers.” He chuckles.
“I believe you’ve written about actual people and yourself, so how can you comment if someone is weak? If they aren’t fictional? I’ve written three books.” You raise a brow, his smirk falls.
Stab him with your words, you think. How dare he slander Rhys. He’s your comfort character. Probably the favourite one you ever wrote.
“You know a weak man when you see one.” He shrugs, taking a bite of his steak, “Tell me, why did you remove me from the book and condense the character?” He demands, lips pulled back into a grimace. So he read the forums and probably your blog.
“Are you upset? Or are you worried, I will see the real you? Given how, one knows the strength capabilities by looking at someone.” You chuckle at his logic.
“Merely curious, sweetheart. Humour me, I’ve bought you dinner, gotten you to a nice place. You must have had scarce experiences as such.” Steve shrugs giving you a once over. He already had the nerve in his palm He wasn’t afraid to pinch it to cause pain or discomfort.
“Mr. Rogers—,”
“Steve, sweetheart.” He chastises, a glimmer in his eyes and you wonder for a moment if he’s playing a part trying to get under your skin or if this is his truth.
These Hollywood men are messing with your head.
Why do they need to put on a goddamn show every waking moment?
Stormy blue eyes appear at the forefront of your mind. Fuck.
“Steve.” You don’t stop your eye-roll at his smug expression,
“About your to be played character, Beckham. I can assist you. However, the decisions taken to edit my book, belonged to me without influence, the only time you were associated was when the book was a fan-fiction, a character I built with your face and name. You’ve worked in enough movies to know how disclaimers work correct?”
“So you didn’t remove me because of what I allegedly did to your precious, Mr. Barnes?” He leans forward, chin resting on his intertwined hands intrigued.
“Pray tell Steve, is this guilt? For playing Beckham it isn’t a good look he doesn’t feel remorse. If you even have to consider I cut you off, you know that you were wrong somewhere.” You rest your chin on your palm.
His nostrils flare, eyes narrowing in the slightest, for a moment you feel smug. Smug that you broke through this front he puts on, but then his smirk returns.
A character he plays for himself then, you deem. All of them never genuine, you were learning the lesson easier now. You glance back down at the plate, contemplating.
Steve knows Bucky is watching, he knows you don’t know about the entourage with the way you’re seated. Secluded but not really cut off from anyone knowing what you look like, Steve chuckles again, you’re a feisty little thing.
It’s unexpected and with the way Bucky Barnes’ trademark glare is trained on Steve. He knows you are of some importance to his former best friend. His manager was right, you were going to be an important string to pursue, he just needed to have you wrapped around him not Bucky.
You stare at Steve, unwilling to back down now, he may have said things but you couldn’t succumb. So what if you decided to cut him off? He has no right to be pissed or affected.
You want to tell him off. It isn’t your battle or your war. You know you’re just a spectator on the sidelines.
Yet it somehow felt slowly you were walking eyes closed onto the crossroads.
Tumblr media
Bucky bends yet another fork.
“Stop holding it in your left hand.” Sam grumbles.
Bucky takes the fork from Sam and bends it with his non bionic fingers and hands it back.
Loki purses his lips, but the laugh breaks out at Bucky’s childishness and Sam’s ire over the cutlery.
Bucky returns the cutlery to their unbent former glory. He also makes sure to leave a hefty tip.
“Why don’t you just go over and apologise?” Loki offers his best friend.
“Because she won’t give me a chance to do so, I’ve fucked up enough.” Bucky huffs, looking up at the wrong time because Steve is reaching to tuck your hair back. He notices you shy away, moving back in your seat.
Worry pools in his stomach, he doesn’t trust Steve Rogers, not anymore.
Dinner comes to an end for you and Steve, he diverts the topic to his current character and asks questions about what you would like him to bring to the table. You tell him you wrote the character like a chameleon, ever changing, self serving and has something up his sleeve always.
Steve walks with you towards the exit just as Bucky, Loki and Sam begin their way out.
You stay back as the door swings open as Steve moves on ahead, rendering you to bump into Bucky.
His hand reaches out to grab your arm to steady you.
“I’m so sorry—,” You look up at the person confused, “Mr. Barnes?”
Bucky gives you a soft smile, “Hey.” He says before letting your hand go, allowing you to walk ahead.
“Fucking hell.” Loki groans as the paps begin their usual camera flashes.
“Can’t handle the limelight, Laufeyson?” Steve teases. Smiling for the cameras, he looks back at you with a frown.
“Come on Y/N. Get your little bit of PR.” He chuckles pulling your arm and flashing a smile for the cameras.
Bucky keeps a poker face as your eyes meet his because you can’t take the flashes and the screaming of the paparazzi. He feels for you, remembering the conversation at the bookstore about the flashes and the anxiety their loud voices bring.
“How did you get her to do this?” Steve looks at Bucky, “Some kind of persuasion…” He trails off you.
“Rogers, fucks sake,” Bucky steps closer, Loki places a cautionary hand to stop Bucky.
“Public, Bucky.” Sam cautions, Bucky shoves his hands in his pockets, fists clenched.
“Steve, I’m not really comfortable with this—,” Your protest reaches dead ears, the questions by the paparazzi become borderline insulting.
Steve wraps his arm around your shoulder smiling at the cameras, “Just smile.” He whispers, you shift away slightly. He tightens his grip, smile never leaving his features.
“Y/N how is it like spending an evening with Steve?”
“Have you read his book? Is it better than your own work?”
“Who is better company, Bucky or Steve?”
“Are you leaving fiction writing?”
“Any boyfriend, or ex? What does he think about you hanging out with Steve.”
“Steve do you have any dates after this meeting?”
They laugh then at that comment.
You remain quiet looking down and trying not to get dizzy because of the flashes. Yelena had told you how this would be your new found fate, adjusting to it was proving difficult.
“Did we get it?” Steve turns to his manager, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. She gives you a charming smile. That did nothing to ease your nerves.
“We did.” She looks at the paps, soon enough they leave at her gesture. You take a breath stepping away from Steve.
“Well, nicely done.” Valentina praises you, “Much better than the pictures with Barnes.”
Sam scoffs, “Much more staged, yes.” He comments. Loki snickers, Bucky laughs.
“I can send you some tips, Mr. Wilson. You need to keep the PR better. His social media is severely lacking.” Valentina offers him a card.
Sam just stares at her. She shakes her head putting it back in her bag.
Steve turns to them narrowing his eyes, “We’re on first name basis at-least.” He tilts his head to gesture towards you. You roll your eyes.
Loki meets your gaze, you look at Bucky, his blue gaze on you. You bite the inside of your cheek, you don’t want to deal with him.
“Funny, we used to be on first name basis too, Rogers.” Bucky provides him with a cold smile.
Steve’s smug expression sours, he’s about to say something,
“Alright, enough, save the public fights for the film promo during filming.” Valentina taps Steve’s shoulder and they begin walking towards the car they drove here.
Your shoulders sag in relief when they leave, retrieving your phone you decide to book a cab.
The apps tell you its a ten minute wait, you spot the little cafe on the opposite side of the lot.
When you turn to walk, Loki pushes Bucky in your direction with a ‘dude-go-talk-to-her-look’.
Bucky stumbles, saying your name, just as you take the first step. You squeeze your eyes shut before turning to face him. You don’t want to deal with any of this right now.
“I could, Could I drop you home?” He offers, hoping you say yes.
“Its okay, I don’t want you to think I’m after a PR moment.” You don’t feel great at his wince, hell taunting him with his own accusations hurts you somehow.
“I deserve that, but, let me drop you home please? Or if you’re more comfortable with Loki he—,”
“Loki is going to the club with Sam.” Loki announces, grinning at you, “Hey there.”
You wave at him, finding yourself smiling back.
“Long time no see.” You comment drily. Loki chuckles eyes moving towards Bucky, who has his gaze trained upon you.
“Yeah well, I could blame you… but I don’t want a novel written…” Loki trails off.
“Oh, is that so? Well,” you retrieve your phone, opening the notes app, clearing your throat you begin, “He stands in a parking lot surrounded by his friends, he mocks me for my storytelling. His green eyes convey the emotion which he cannot show— sarcasm. All while his friend does not understand why are we communicating this way. Even though his friend is the reason we do not speak.”  You speak out loud while typing gibberish.
Sam laughs catching onto the joke and Bucky raises a brow between the two of you.
Loki chuckles and you tuck away your phone.
“What?” He requests getting confused even more, mildly because he is still nervous about messing up yet again.
“Banter.” Loki shrugs.
Bucky wonders if you would ever be at ease this way with him. After the shit he spewed he doubts it.
“I’m sorry.” He blurts, Loki and Sam purse their lips and look at you.
You shrug, not really knowing what to say.
“Y/N… let him drop you home, please.” Loki suggests.
“I can get by just fine—,” You have the protests lined up,
“Look you both need to sort it out because SHEILD will exploit anything for drama, and you hate PR bullshit, Bucky does too, just bury the hatchet please, one last chance, if he fucks it up you can ignore him all you want, I promise.” Sam gestures to you and he has a point. Loki nods in agreement.
“Okay.” You agree for the sake of not being forced to do anything for useless drama.
“Thank you.” Bucky smiles, “My car is that way.” He points and you turn in the direction.
Bucky turns to Sam and Loki gratefully.
“You owe me one.” His friend chuckles, Loki gives a stern look.
“Don’t mess it up.” Sam warns Bucky nods, jogging after you.
Tumblr media
The car ride is silent, Bucky’s hands grip the wheel tightly. The material of the gloves taut over his knuckles.
You try not to move your gaze to him, but it is difficult. As if your throat aches to speak to him. Your hands stay folded in your lap, but the fiddling with your fingers out of anxiousness begins, you try to press your palms flat on your bag. Yet after moments you’re back to fidgeting.
Bucky swallows thickly, his attention on the road slipping because he wants to look at you. If there was a stoplight, he’d study your profile. Several moments he noticed your nervous movements.
Part of him just wants to reach out, quell your nerves. Part of him is internally kicking himself for not explaining his side of things, allowing you to stew in words he did not mean.
Does he even deserve to offer an explanation?
Your eyes and Bucky’s shift to the clock on the dashboard. It has just been ten minutes.
He inhales deeply, followed by a long exhale. You wonder if a knife could cut the thickness in the air.
He clears his throat, you turn to him.
“Do you want to hear some music?” He questions, blue eyes reflected in the orange of the streetlights.
“Yeah, music is good…” You shrug.
Eleven words is a good start you suppose.
His hand shifts to the console, pressing the media button, soft radio chatter fills the car.
Bucky shifts stations till music begins.
The song is familiar, Bucky pauses tapping to the beat,
‘You’ve been my muse for a long time,
You get me through every dark night,
I’m always gone, out on the go,
I’m on the run and you’re home alone,
I’m too consumed by my own life’
Bucky shifts in his seat, you look ahead at the road.
‘Are we too young for this?
Feels like I can’t move
Sharing my heart
Is tearing me apart.’
Bucky snorts, breaking into a fit of laughter. You stare at him, the crinkles by his eyes prominent. The sound is full of mirth despite the lyric that prompted it.
“Sorry I just, the line, god, it’s morbid humour at best.” He runs his hand through his hair, switching lanes.
You wait for him to explain further, worried about saying something to upset him.
“Conversation works two ways, Y/N.” He teases, meeting your confused gaze, “However I understand your reservations due to my own actions rather words.” He sighs, disappointment embedding itself into his being.
“I know you didn’t know about Steve Rogers being cast, it was a stupid gimmick to get a rise out of Loki and I.” Bucky explains, “I figure you know probably about the highlight reel of what occurred between Steve and I.”
He looks at you again, you nod.
“Which is one of the reasons why I said what I said to Loki. I know a muse can be anyone or anything. I just, I don’t know why I get overly defensive still, it has been what? Six-Seven years? It hurts still, but accusing you of something you didn’t do and you probably would not do. That was worse than a fucking asshole behaviour of me.” He purses his lips, then scowls.
“I know I’ve apologised prior and we were on our way to being sort of civil and/or friends. I, want to apologise again.” The car stops at a red light and he turns to face you.
“I, I don’t know what to tell you? I, the way things got handled during the release… the whole ‘me using you’…” your hands make quote marks,
“I’m sorry Steve did such a shitty thing to you which is not excusable. I guess having your face attached to another thing wasn’t a great experience either.” You chuckle lightly, Bucky smiles feeling some amount of progress.
“I can understand your reaction but I can’t excuse it, Mr. Barnes. Everyone is burned before and that makes us cautious. You were looking out for Loki, which I’m sure he appreciates.” You look ahead.
“Oh, no he ripped me a new one. I don’t think he’s ever crossed the 90 minute lecture mark and he did that night.” Bucky informs you wincing at the memory. Loki was absolutely livid even more than the time Bucky drank himself stupid and sat in his car.
Bucky shakes his head, shrugging away the memory. The signal turns green he begins driving with his left hand. The other resting on the console.
“Why do you still call me, Mr. Barnes?” He wonders.
“You never told me to call you anything else, Mr. Barnes.” You chuckle.
“You can use my name. I insist.” He adds lightly, a smile on his lips.
“Okay, good to know.” You say, Bucky closes his eyes for a second, slightly disappointed his name didn’t follow.
“I wanted to ask… that story you uploaded? Writing ‘fuck’ under the chapter title?” He supinates his forearm to gesticulate his question.
You laugh now, “Your coveted production house bought my publishing house. Meaning they automatically get dibs on most of my work, which means my contracts need to be very ironclad to protect myself. Doesn’t help that Alexander Pierce is almost staring everyday at me to, waiting for me to ask for an extension in exchange of a favour.” You shudder.
Bucky pulls over to the shoulder the tires screech as he slams the breaks. You lurch forward his arm reaches across you to stabilise despite you having the seatbelt on.
Your brows furrow, before you can speak he turns completely towards you in the limited space. He draws his hand back.
“Promise me, please, no matter if we’re civil or friends or not. You won’t go to him for favours, he’s, he’s a vulture. Y/N you need to be careful.” Bucky’s hand twitches to reach out to your own.
“I, I won’t.” You look between his intense gaze, “I find him kind of creepy. Weirdly touchy—,”
“When and where?” The venom in his words would kill upon impact.
“It, it isn’t, he’s not inappropriate—, a brush here or a comforting hand over palm there.” You swallow, it was uncomfortable but not something you could verbalise.
“If he makes you uncomfortable or pulls any shit, I hope to God, I hope to God sincerely, that he doesn’t try anything with you. Please know you can come to me okay? I’ll, fuck, that man is bad news.” Bucky shakes his head, disgusted by everything he has heard and seen about Alexander.
“Why do all you still work for him?” You question.
“As you said, those fucking contracts, his leverage in the industry, it is a fucked up game to them, to him. There is never anything concrete to take him down.” Bucky doesn’t state the other things. You don’t need to know the darker bits and pieces.
“Please, promise me.” He requests again.
“I promise, James.” You reach for his hand. His fingers intertwine with yours, you both stare at the limbs.
Bucky finds it different somehow when you take his name, not the nickname that has become common to everyone. Synonymous with his very being.
When you look back up at him, you realise you both have leaned closer.
Bucky studies your features, the way your eyes gleam softly in the streetlight, your lip gloss glimmering when you purse your lips then let them go.
Bucky doesn’t realise how or when his left hand rests on your cheek. The temperature hidden by his gloves.
When his thumb strokes your cheekbone you close your eyes. Bucky’s eyes close as well, your breaths intertwine, heart somersaulting as you feel something soft brush against your lips.
Bucky can taste the sweet scent of your lipgloss, softly brushing against his own lips. He doesn’t want you to regret this, he doesn’t want you to think he’s taking advantage of you.
The way your hand rests upon his, your warmth blooming through his layer of defence. His layer of protection.
Something cracks within him, dark, urging, commanding him to push you away.
'Doing what I can, tryna be a man (be your man) And every time I kiss you, baby I can hear the sound of breaking down'
Bucky’s forehead rests against yours, you give a sad smile. Your eyes are still closed but you knew.
You knew this would occur.
“James.” You swallow thickly.
“I am so sorry.” He wants to apologise for not giving in to the moment.
“You have a lot on your mind, mistakes happen, at-least you stopped, before, before you would regret it.” You shift back, your warmth and closeness leaving, have him feel colder than ever.
You look down at your hands, Bucky screws his eyes shut. Head leaning against the headrest looking up at the roof of the car.
I wouldn’t have regretted it. He wants to tell you, but he decides to keep quiet.
You play with the hem of your dress, he recalls something.
“Is, this looks like the dress you described Doll wearing during the dinner party with Beckham.” He murmurs, you chuckle.
“So Rhys remembers but Beckham doesn’t,” your comment makes him smile lightly.
“That’s why she ends up with Rhys. Get their happy ending.” Bucky shrugs.
“If only those were common.” You murmur, twiddling your thumbs. Bucky places a hand on yours, pausing your movements.
“What has you anxious?” He questions, you don’t look toward him.
You. You want to speak, looking up concern drips from him, “I, I need to get home.” You deflect.
“I just want to apologise to you, one more chance to show you that I’m, I want to be friends.” He admits. You absorb his words.
Bucky nods, allowing you your silence. His hand remains above yours, as he manoeuvres the car back onto the lanes. When your thoughts begin to swirl again, you play with his hand without thinking.
Bucky observes you, letting you fidget, brushing your fingers over the gloves. So delicately as to not harm him. A softness tugs within his chest.
“Do you like these?” You question, looking at his side profile, he shrugs. His thumb absentmindedly running along the edge of your index finger.
“I wear them because I don’t like the stares or comments. Also the whole image aspect… It’s sort of a layer between people and I,” he shrugs not knowing how else to explain the way the disgust was interwoven into his return to cinema.
“Do you at-least have a safe space? Or someone you can take them off of in their presence?” You wonder, genuinely curious.
“I do, my family, Sam and Loki.” He tells you, you smile.
“That is good.” You wonder if telling him about Steve would garner what reaction.
“Loki plays Rhys’ best friend right?” You ask, Bucky nods.
“Originally Rhys had two best-friends, I merged them into one.” You explain.
“I don’t follow…” He looks to you slowing down before the turn towards your neighbourhood.
“Steve was one of the original friends, so he asked me, if I did that because of what he did to you.” You look at Bucky.
He begins to laugh, “So he was pressed about being kicked out? Wait he read the original fanfic?”
“More like worried about knowing ‘why was he cut off’?” You giggle, nodding at the latter half of the question.
“What did you tell him?” Bucky is amused, he hadn’t ventured onto your blog just read the book.
“I didn’t answer his question just asked him if he feels guilty is that why he questions my decision? He diverted the topic.” You shrug.
“If he had any guilt he would apologise.” He declares.
“Sometimes people think the time to apologise is too late, in Steve’s matter however it’s about the fact he doesn’t realise he did something gravely wrong.”
“You don’t agree with what he did?” Bucky sounds surprised.
“He didn’t take your permission, he didn’t take your consent, he wrote about what occurred with you and made it about him? What kind of an egomaniac do you have to be?” You scoff,
“I mean I might fall into the non permissive category but like,”
“What you do is different.” Bucky declares.
“Happy you think that way.” You look towards him.
The car stops outside your home. Bucky looks at you.
He moves his hand forward, “Friends?” He feels as though he is a kid in kindergarten.
“Friends.” You shake his hand.
“Does this remind you of kindergarten?” You ask,
“It does.” He smiles.
“James, this, you have your one chance but please know it is the last one. I do not have it in me to go back and forth.” You gaze into his eyes, the little street lamps illuminating his features.
“I won’t let you down.” He adds, you smile.
Bucky watches you walk up to your house, you open the door, turning towards him.
His silhouette waves at you from the car.
Bucky stays till he watches the door shut, you watch from the window in hall as his car moves away.
You go about your nightly routine, changing your clothes and checking up on your mom.
“How was dinner?” She questions, hand held by yours, you smile.
“It was okay.” You shrug.
“I see you’re smiling after this one.” She grins, trying to find a topic to tease you upon.
“Mum it isn’t like that they are all working with me. Also it isn’t like the fictional worlds I create.” You pull her blanket up further.
“Well one day you’re going to have that love the kind that you write and read about.” She runs her hand over your head. Your throat tightens at the gesture.
“You wanna watch a movie?” You offer, she nods.
“Something funny?” She requests as you stand to go bring your laptop.
Your phone stays charging near your laptop on the desk, biting the inside of your cheek you contemplate.
Almost forty minutes have passed since you got home, unlocking the device you find his contact, opening up the muted thread you type the message.
The warm mist clears around him as Bucky steps out of the bathroom. Running the towel through his hair, his phone lights up on the nightstand.
Y/N:hey, thank you for dropping me home. I hope you got back to your home safely too.
Bucky smiles, beginning to type out the reply
James:I did get home about fifteen minutes back, hope everything is okay at home for you.
He sets the device back down not anticipating a reply, Loki and Sam were already updated on the situation.
When he gets back into bed deciding to scroll though social media your name remains in the notification tab.
Y/N: that’s good, yeah it wasn’t chaotic or anything just watching Nailed It on netflix with mum she wanted to watch something funny. Have you seen it?
You’re opening up the conversation floor with him, Bucky’s chest mirths, elated that he’s making more progress.
He begins typing out his response that no he hasn’t, you immediately request him to at-least watch one episode.
Bucky chuckles pulling up the app on his phone to watch.

Alrighty, High School DXD, season 3! AKA, the one that everyone hated and caused a big rift between the anime's director and the light novels' author that caused him to go to a different studio entirely for the next season and completely retcon the last four episodes of this season!
It's funny going into something already knowing that it's going to be bad and knowing the circumstances behind it. I mean, I've been enjoying the series thus far, even with its flaws, but I was curious to see how much of a trainwreck this was going to turn out to be.
And honestly, it got off to a fairly strong start. Like, the character interactions felt more developed, a few of the ones that had faded into the background were getting more focus (except poor Kiba, who's been pushed aside ever since his own focus arc finished up), the whole turning the Issei house into a multi-story mansion was a hoot, we FINALLY get some focus on Issei's trauma from being betrayed and killed by Yuma, Koneko looked like she was going to finally get some development, the whole gods and demons lore was getting expanded, and so on. Like, it was going good! I'm sure fans of the light novel were annoyed at them doing things out of order, but it was still good.
Also, they fixed those damn eyecatches! Seriously, how'd they fuck up something so simple last season?
But while I did like the training arc and the Loki fight (though he could have stood to have had some more personality), the next arc started to go off the rails. It was basically just a weird mix of past arcs (save Asia, the rating game, creepy suitors) with not a whole lot new mixed in, and I was bummed that the rating game thing got nixed, because I liked the last one and was looking forward to this one. Still, the villain (already forgot his name) was suitably hateable, kidnapping Asia always means some level of instant investment for me, and this series is meant to be a power fantasy anyway, so seeing a loathsome douche get his ass handed to him is still a good time.
And then things rolled over into the last four episodes, the ones that get retconned by season four, and I was like, "Ooooh, NOW I get it."
Yeah, it was a mess.
Okay, okay. Individually, there was some good stuff. Like, the fights were still pretty hyped, the voice acting and animation were good, and we get both the big Asia and Rias kisses. And there were some neat ideas to be had.
Unfortunately, it couldn't seem to just pick one. Like, wow, it cycled through one plot line after another here.
So...Asia gets suddenly transported to another dimension where she'll die and everyone is grieving and Issei is losing his mind and going berserk on a bunch of villains that I also kind of forgot who they were and what their deal was to begin with...only for her to get rescued by the C-team offscreen. It's fine.
Next, Issei's Dragon form has malfunctioned and is slowly killing him and everyone is so worried...except they suddenly remember that they have a healer. So Asia heals him up, easy-peasy. He's fine.
And then Issei's doppelganger shows up and mind controls Rias so everyone needs to go get her back so I guess Rias is the final boss now, but power of love and...what the hell was going on? Is the Chaos Brigade the villains or not? Wasn't Koneko's sister supposed to be important? Akeno's whole thing with her dad got wrapped up way too quickly and too easily and was never really mentioned again. I remember Loki cursing Rias and Issei, so I guess that's an explanation for the doppelganger, but even so. What the fuck is happening and why?!
Yeah, it was all over the place. I completely lost track of what the plot of this season was even supposed to be. And while I can't say that I didn't enjoy aspects, on the whole it really fell apart.
Plus, we are running into cast creep. What worked about the first season is that the number of characters was manageable, so everyone got time to shine, but now there's so many that most just sort of do one thing per fight and other than that just sort of stand aside (poor Gasper). It's the Z-fighters all over again.
Well, at least the OVA was genuinely good. Like, bringing back the Big Bad from season one and find out that his loss has traumatized him so badly that even the heroes feel sorry for him and try to get him back on his feet? Yeah, that's great. And him and Issei's rivalry is just so wonderfully petty. Honestly, keep Riser around. He's got way more rival chemistry with Issei than Vali does.
Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again. How in the hell haven't Issei and Asia fucked already?!

it's been... he's not sure how long it has been. he's been losing track of time as of late. a small price to pay, he reckons. still, he has been lingering here and there. he catches sight of the - once - analyst from several metres away, never stepping any closer. curious whether mobius would ever notice him out the corner of his eye. those few times mobius could wander into town loki's linger closer and closer, until now. standing in front of mobius's door he was, in front of this... dreadfully quiet house. it reminded him more of a shell, than shelter. loki raised his clenched fist and knocked on the door twice.
there is supposed to be a celebration today — in new asgards.
a celebration to welcome the summer solstice, they say. something the asgardians have adopted when they come to earth. hedda, that's the tourist guide who had once dreamt of being a scholar in asgards, told mobius the last time he was there. we were tired of simply... surviving, i suppose, she had said in fluent asgardian, a language that's tough on the tongue, and the basis of old norse. mobius had liked how it sounded when he heard it in collective. he wishes he's spoken it more with loki.
so our queen decides for a, how do you midgardians would say... and at this, hedda switches brilliantly to english; quick-witted, earnest, despite the very fact that she had to change languages at all must be devastating at first. a constant reminder that the asgardians, despite finding peace in this new land, are refuges. if they had a choice, surely they'd love to return back. surely they'd wanted nothing more than the home they knew. a day off! she finished then, before regaling mobius about all the activities new asgards would be involved in.
mobius isn't sure if he's fit for a celebration, but he promises hedda, enja, and erik he would come. all the staff at the museum who had known him simply from the frequency of his visit. maybe he ought to feel more embarrassed by it, but he couldn't. doesn't. ( he's too tired to. and, anyways, mobius thinks he likes them all. erik's mother was once the royal tailor. she would go on and on about all the clothes she'd made for the allmother. enja's ancestor was part of the valkyrie. hedda's father died in ragnarok, but he died defending asgards, and that was a great honour. )
mobius is trying to wear his tie when he hears the knock.
he sees a shadow when he looks over his shoulder from the kitchen where he's trying to tie his tie. maybe this is an occasion where one should be looking at the mirror in the bathroom to do so, but mobius has already worn socks, and he doesn't want to get them wet. plus, he likes the kitchen. it's the only place in the whole house where natural sunlight can genuinely pour in; the only place he hasn't put a blinder in when he constructs it. the living room is clean enough too, of course. he spends his time reading there, but it's shrouded by shadows. mobius only ever reads by a lamplight.
anyways. mobius doesn't know who is at the front door. it might be verity, though she'd usually call him by now. who else could've known he's here? the old construction people he had in contact with? the electrician? mobius goes to it, and he opens—
it's loki.
Tumblr media
or... or a variant, maybe. mobius' heart is pounding. it pounds so hard, mobius could hear it in his ears. they look so— he thinks, but doesn't finish it. it hurts to. so he shakes his head, chases away any thought of familiarity and starts reasoning. he hasn't aged still, you know. still the timeless man despite the years passing. it's empty, being somewhat immortal like this, with nothing to do. but he doesn't have the energy to fully dedicate himself to the upcoming war, even if he should. but mobius uses his quick thinking now, remembering all those times he'd approached a loki variant, hoping to- to entice something. to recreate what's gone. but...
but he always, always walks away. it never works. it won't work. he doesn't want them, a statement he will never tell any of them. and yet it's true, because who he wants... who he wants is gone. and there's only one of that. he's reconciling with that. he's trying to.
still, it's— could one of them remember him now? have found him? shit. shit! mobius blinks, before he clears his throat. he averts his eyes to the ground — it's hard to see loki up-close, especially in this form, in this most familiar look, so mobius doesn't — and manages, ❝ sorry, um ... c-can i help you ? ❞

Doctor Strange Powers Meta Compilation Part 1
Doctor Strange’s Powers: Portal Conjuring
Portal conjuring was the first spell Doctor Strange learned, so obviously, it has a special place among his skills. We can see him using it in Thor Ragnarok and Infinity War with such ease we could be fooled to think it was easy for him to learn it, while it was not. The Ancient One had to leave him on the top of the Everest so Strange could leave his self pity aside and give total focus to the spell. So far, we’ve learned a few things about it.
Tumblr media
Strange can make the portals appear anywhere and they don’t lead necessarily to another place in our dimension. When Stephen captured Loki, he claimed to have fallen for 30 minutes. Assuming Loki would have been able to escape if he was falling in the sky, from portal to portal, we can conclude Loki was trapped inside a pocket dimension created by Doctor Strange, where no matter how Loki teleported, he couldn’t leave it.

Another property of the portals is that they can cut by burning whatever gets pressed against its edges, just like Wong did, cutting Black Dwarf’s arm off. Considering that, the portals aren’t just a way to move from a place to another, but they’re also a dangerous weapon. Strange could form portals around an enemy’s body in order to have it chopped, but that probably goes against the doctor’s oath of not killing, at least, not killing if not necessary.

The spell however, has its limitations. One must picture the place they want to go clearly in their mind, so it requires a lot of focus, no matter how good one is at it. Also, since the place has to be pictured, one cannot go to a place they don’t know. Strange probably needs to use his magic mirror in order to see places and track people before opening a portal to a place he doesn’t know. Another weakness is the need of a sling ring so a sorcerer can open a portal.

Of course there must be other ways to conjure portals, like we saw the Ghost Rider from Agents of Shield doing, but so far, our doctor has used just his sling ring. At this point he probably knows how to craft new ones in case he loses his. (Or get in Kamar Taj).

Without a specific name, the “Eldritch Barrier” (it’s made using his Eldritch Magic aaand it’s a barrier) is perfect for absorbing impact…however…not so perfect because the sorcerer conjuring the spell still can’t do it perfectly! Strange more than once showed insecurity about his spells, despite being able to conjure them and despite being badass as hell, Strange clearly still learned 100% of the spells he showed us in the movie, even if he’s a lot more experienced by now. The Barrier is supposed to act not just like a….barrier, but also like an impact “nullifier” or “anulator”. Considering Peter, Tony and Stephen were inside a crashing ship, we know the problem isn’t just whatever object that might hit you. but the impact per se. We already know strong impacts might damage inner organs and even dislocate neurons from place, killing the person even if they’re apparently intact. The thing is so serious that despite having a super high tech armor, Tony and Peter are SUPER worried. Tony would be confident if he knew his armor and Peter’s could sustain such an impact, but he doesn’t know if they actually can! That’s why he’s so nervous and scared. Considering the scenario we saw in the movie, the only one who would most likely survive was Peter, because of his enhanced durability and higher density plus improved regeneration skills. Even so, if I had to bet, I would bet Spidey would survive, but probably be in a coma and wake up only days later.

So, as we see, to conjure the spell, Strange joins his hands, gathers energy and then crosses his arms, his hands facing the direction he wants to place the front of the barrier. But that’s not just it. The barrier continues forming and makes a cylinder around Strange and the others, and supposedly, that cylinder gets unaffected by external impacts, pressure and temperature (yeah, the temperature outside could have been lethal as well). After the impact, Tony fell or crouched and Spidey got attached to the ceiling, so yeah, Strange’s spell isn’t perfect yet, some of the impact hit them despite his effort.

Considering the face Strange makes when he’s using the spell, the barrier (at least the high level of the spell he used) demands a lot of energy, and despite the energy used not being directly Strange’s, Stephen definitely has to use a lot of his own energy in order to conjure the energy to be used in the barrier. For the barrier to absorb and nullify all that impact, its energy probably has to be the same or very close to the energy of the impact, which is A LOT OF ENERGY. Strange got drained and it would explain well why he’s more defensive than offensive during the fight against the Guardians, and why the Cloak steps forward to stop Drax, preventing a direct fight between tired Stephen and angry Drax. Stephen still is able to fight, but if we check his breathing and his expression, we can see he’s super tired. His hands are shaking more and he looks way more stressed than usual.
Tumblr media
As you can see, the barrier surrounds them, what makes it less like a shield and more like a super resistant force field.
Tumblr media
You know what’s interesting? That wasn’t the first time we saw that spell. Wong also conjured it in the beginning of the movie during the fight against Ebony Maw and the Black Dwarf. And do you know what’s even more interesting? Wong used different hand signs to conjure it. Differently from Strange’s version of the spell, Wong just conjured the front of the barrier. Considering Wong is Strange’s teacher and he probably still is more skilled than Strange, we can assume the sorcerer can choose the “level” of the spell they are conjuring by controlling the amount of energy they use.
Tumblr media
Strange seems very chill about the fight when Wong intervenes, so that sort of proves how that Barrier is super resistant. The impact of a ship might have required an extreme skill with that spell, but in most situations, the barrier and Strange’s experience is more than enough to handle it. In fact, if we think about it, the ones attacking Wong are super strong and even so, Strange and Wong seem super confident about it.
Tumblr media
So, we can conclude every spell has levels and each level demands more energy. Higher levels don’t mean just more spell strength, but they also mean different spell utilities, as we saw in Wong’s barrier (level 2?) that is huge but has just the front of the barrier and as we saw in Strange’s barrier (level 3?) that’s not just huge, but it also forms a cylinder around himself, Tony and Peter. Wong probably knows how to conjure higher levels of the spells, but Strange probably is the guy who’s able to do it because of his intense willpower and determination, while I believe Wong is less clumsy and more skilled, Strange is more intense and explosive, but also clumsy and a bit unstable.
 See? He’s a bit clumsy. He totally loses balance when he uses the Crimson Bands. The Cloak can cover that, but still, Infinity War’s direction and Benedict’s acting were perfect to give us the impression Strange grew a lot, learned new spells and he’s freaking powerful, but that still, he’s not a sorcerer supreme yet, he’s not complete, he still has a lot to learn and he’s still is getting used to the powerful spells he learned, he’s still getting used to his own intense potential, a potential he still doesn’t quite know how to use or control.

Seraphim Shield, Grimsom Bands of Cyttorak, Eldritch Whip, Rings of Raggadorr
People often confuse the Rings of Raggadorr with the Shields of Seraphim. The shields are way larger and can reflect energy, the rings are smaller, their energy is more aggressive and they might amplify the impact of a punch and burn or be thrown. Also, the rings seem to be able to act like a shortcut if the sorcerer wants to conjure other spells. We still didn’t see Stephen hitting someone with the Rings, he used them for intimidation so far, but according to the concept art, the rings are deadly and can cut like blades too. I would go crazy if the added that energy tail to Strange’s slashes in the movie. (pic source, check for more concept art)

The Eldritch Whip and the Crimson Bands are different too. The whip burns and it’s a lot more thinner, golden and violent, causing pain and impact, like a legit photonic whip, while the bands are larger, and even if they burn, their focus is resistance, and of course, they’re more…red.

Doctor Strange’s Powers: Bolts of Balthakk
Tumblr media
Originally posted by palmerchristine
The bolts of Balthakk is a spell that focuses on power and destruction, but not just that. It has two special elements to it. The first one is that IT EXPLODES whenever it touches a surface. The second one is that it ricochets, and depending of the sorcerer’s skill, this ricocheting might be manipulated so the bolts will follow the enemy until the spell ends. In order to conjure the spell, hands/arm signs are required (or mental signs if the sorcerer can picture them perfectly) and the bolts come from the rings formed in front of the sorcerer’s hands.

We can see the exploding and ricocheting nature of the spell by observing these shots below. But how can we define the nature of this spell? Even if it might seem it behaves like electricity, it’s probably closer to photonic manipulation, just like the entire Eldritch Magic Spells seem to be (Strange’s spells). In fact, today we know light (photons), if provided enough energy, can be condensed and even be crystallized. That could relate to how the control over the mirrored dimension can be obtained, how crystal walls appeared when Strange used the Eye to open rifts in time by accident and how the bolts resemble photonic plasma. Maybe the explosion is caused my the photons releasing all the stored energy at once, overheating all the surroundings.
Tumblr media
The Bolts might look like a fire spell, but it’s clear how it doesn’t behave like fire or lava. It might burn the enemies, but not because it’s fire per se, but because of the huge amount of energy stored in the particles manipulated by Strange. The signature of the spell looks like some sort of super dense plasma, loaded with energy. The way the rings shine before the spell is released also suggests it has to do with light.
In Marvel vs Capcom, the bolts also have an electric aspect, but still, the silhouette of the bolt seems to behave like plasma. Could it mean the Bolts actually consist in PURE ENERGY that is simply controlled by Strange and that affect both electrons and photons? If I had to bet, I would say it’s photonic manipulation affecting electrons by consequence, or that electrons are triggered to canalize energy to photons, which are manipulated to form the spell.

I've been losing it trying to figure out America's age. We know she was orphaned when she was ~7 years old from the Young Avengers run, and her latest solo run puts that happening 13 years ago, which would make her 20/21. We know she joined the Teen Brigade when she was 16. We also know that Kieron Gillen originally said she was 2-3 years older than the majority of the Young Avengers, making her 23-24 during the run. (1/3)
He later said she was 17/18 along with David, making her 3 years younger than Kate and 4 years younger than Noh-Varr. Or maybe not, because her running off to join the Teen Brigade is also stated in her solo run to have happened three years ago, making her 19 (despite the fact that the similarly-aged David is canonically at least 21) and also meaning that only 1-2 years have passed in-universe since the events of Young Avengers. (2/3)
Or maybe not, because the same fucking comic also flashes back to the night her moms died in a later issue and says it was 15 years ago (not 13 as previously mentioned), making her 22. I hate you comic book character ages I hate you. (3/3)
yeah bud, this is a right headache. they've always fucked w her age a lot tbh. and i don't overly care in the sense that she's a multiversal traveler w some starry galactic powers - it makes sense that her relationship to time would be a bit different, but i do care abt them constantly trying to retcon and reconfigure her past for kinda no purpose (i'm a utopian parallel apologist sorry not sorry i think its a more fun compelling backstory, but whatev).
i personally feel like with marvel sliding time scale taken into account, yeah maybe only a year or two has passed since young avengers and i'm fine w that, but she's now had over three tenures on super teams plus her own vigilante time, plus her own apparently numerous multiversal/timeline adventures? so imho that makes it reasonable to me that she's early twenties.
the way she's written in young avengers also does give that impression. she seems like that's where she is in her story and how she relates to the other characters (particularly kid loki and kate, who IS canonically older than most of the rest of the YA too, SO!) that also seems reasonable. i don't loooove her characterization in all of her solo run bc i do feel like she sometimes flips between typical young 20s finding shit out and discovering herself and a younger on the cusp of adulthood, very bouncy idealistic sort of teen and that feels incongruous with her in a lot of different runs and her continued growth.
so! i choose to see her as like, 22ish physically, probably more multiverse weary and having a complicated relationship with aging and her own perception of individual self. and here she will probably stay for a long while, as she occupies that 'young avengers' category and they keep the main avengers teams at 30-something ish and don't let them age either.
and just like those other characters, we are never gonna get a solid age. tis the Comic of It All
i agree w ya tho!! yeahhhh writers should stop trying because it never ages well and also they have so much trouble keeping track of their own timing in their own goddamn runs or later as a retcon/comment (INFURIATING. what do you mean, i beta my stuff but they don't have to fucking fact check AGAINST THEIR OWN SCRIPT at all??? NO TAKEBACKS. DO IT RIGHT and never use a number when you don't have to dodos!!!)
anyways its terrible!! no good! everything is made up and the points don't matter, at least america will always kick ass and be the stargirl we all need!!

"This...bold of you. Even I wouldn't do this," Helen says in your passenger seat as she holds a box full of pink and red decorations.
"Listen," you start, taking a breath as you pull to a stop at the last stoplight before you're due to turn into the back parking lot of Queen's Pub. "I can't stop thinking about him, we have good chemistry..why not take the jump, y'know? Plus, it's Valentine's day. May as well be extra."
"Is Brunn helping us?"
"And Brian, yeah. Brunn is gonna help us rearrange and decorate, Brian's already done his part in saying Pub's closed to the public today."
Helen nods, and you're pressing the gas to go when the light's green, making a right after driving for a few minutes and taking a few breaths once you're parked and Helen is walking in from the loading bay door.
It's far too late to back out of this now, it's all in motion.
When you DM'd Brunn on Instagram, telling her about this idea, you didn't think she would be all for it. Hell, you didn't even think she'd string Brian into doing it. He's losing a day of business for this.
"There you are!" Brunn shouts excitedly once you're inside. She's wrapped in the Valentine's streamers from the box Helen brought in.
"She probably thought about backing out," Helen says as she sticks little hearts on the bar. Brian then comes from the kitchen, holding plates and some silverware.
"Surely not, because I've already told Loki that I need help with Anita's gift tonight."
"That's how you're getting him here?" Brunn asks as you laugh nervously, happy Brian's out and setting the table you and Loki are due to eat your dinner at. "I was gonna tell him we left an amp."
"We both know Loki wouldn't trust you with that," Brian replies as he fixes the red table cloth on the table.
You and Helen laugh at that reply while Brunn makes a noise of shock before you all fall into silence. After that, it's the four of you efficiently and quickly decorating the small side of Queen's Pub you and Loki will be dining at.
By the time it was nearly 7 at night, the pub was decorated, food was almost done cooking in the kitchen, and Brian had dressed a bit less casual so he could play server for the night.
"Thank you again for doing this, Brian," you say, arms crossed over your chest. "I really appreciate it."
"It's not a problem," he replies. His tone is kind and light, and you know he means it. "We were all at his throat when he didn't get your number, so you're really doing us all a favor."
You snort and shake your head, walking back over to your dinner table. "I'll ask you to explain that later."
"I'm sure Loki will be happier to explain it than myself."
You're about to reply again when you hear a knock at the front doors of the pub and immediately stand. Brian gives you a reassuring smile before walking to the doors. You can hear their cheerful greetings to each other, part of the conversation is about what Loki's supposedly here for.
But then he stops in his tracks and sees you, his words trailing off slowly. You smile, holding your arms out wide.
"Surprise?"
Loki's grinning back without hesitation, still standing still next to Brian. "What's this?"
"Well, I felt like garbage for not getting someone's number the other night," you start casually, shifting on your feet before sitting down in the chair you just stood from. "So, I thought I'd push our little not-date-date situation to a Monday instead of a Saturday. If that's okay, that is."
You hold your breath as Loki walks over to you, his smile never fading as he stands in front of you.
"That's absolutely okay. It's more than okay."
You let out a soft laugh, the tension in your body flowing out as Loki takes your hands in his. "Thank god."
Loki laughs with you before his thumbs are brushing over your knuckles. "Can I ask you something now, since we're here?"
You glance around Loki's shoulder, seeing Brian already gone, and you nod. "Sure, knock yourself out."
"Would you be angry if I kissed you, right now?"
Your eyes flick back to Loki's instantly, your heart pounding against your rib cage.
"No," you start softly. "Absolutely not."
Loki hums quietly as he presses his forehead to your own, and you've never been more ready for your first kiss than you have in this moment. "Brilliant."
And with that, Loki places his lips on yours and kisses you soundly, in the middle of Queen's Pub, all while one corner of the streamer decorations falls to swing around near the stage and causes the two of you to laugh into your lips.

(reader is from asgard) After Loki faked his death, he transforms into the smallest creature and watches over the avengers tower only to see his childhood only friend and crush fall in depression. The others try to help but her anger is so much for her that she almost destroys everything with the powers she didn't knew she had. She admits to them how much she loved him and only then he realizes. I can't think of an ending. Also, sorry if this is too specific!
Word count: 2.026 words A/N: This story is set between Loki’s fake death in Thor 2 and the end of the movie. Hope you like it! Warning: Angst
Watching over you You were stirring in your sleep again. Something you did often lately. From behind your closed eyes tears started to flow over your cheeks, wetting the pillow underneath you. Right now, Loki wanted nothing more than to wake you and hold you close to him, hoping to comfort you. Tell you that everything is going to be okay. But he couldn’t do any of that. He was dead, or at least that is what everyone thinks. Plus, he had to change back to himself, and he couldn’t risk that either. It was safer to stay in this form. He wasn’t even supposed to be here, he should be in Asgard, planning the best moment to strike against Odin. But he couldn’t help himself, he had to see how you were doing. Even with dark circles under your eyes and in lazy/comfortable clothes, you still were beautiful to him. Something he would have told you, he wanted to tell you for so long, but every time you looked at him his tongue had failed him. You finally fell back in a peaceful slumber. Loki decided he would stay for one more night and then get to work. He flew to the ceiling above you, looked one more time at you sleeping form, before falling asleep himself.
Next morning
The sun was already shining brightly trough the windows. Loki had been watching you all morning. You hadn’t bothered setting an alarm clock, and when you woke up you grunted and turned around. There was a knock on the door.“(Y/N), time to get out of bed!” Natasha said. When you didn’t respond she entered the bedroom. It was her day today. You didn’t know it, you hadn’t even noticed a pattern. But some of the Avengers divided days among them to look after you. They were worried about the state you were in. Barely coming out of your room, not eating, not showering, and not wanting to talk about it. Not everyone agreed to it, however. Since not all people could understand that it was losing him what was causing you to act this way. To be honest, Loki never anticipated that you would be this much affected by his death. The two of you were friends since you were kids. You were one of the few people that somehow got him to open up. It didn’t take long to develop a crush on you, but he wasn’t the only one. A lot of guys in Asgard had, how could they not? You were beautiful, kind, patient, and the way you laughed sounded like Valhalla itself. Even tough you had a lot of friends, you always made time for him. You truly were the kindest person he had ever met.
Loki’s thoughts were interrupted when he heard you yell. “Just leave me alone!” He was shocked. In all the time that he’d known you, he never heard you yell. You never even raised your voice. Always staying calm, because no matter how angry you were ‘raising your voice was a sign for people that you weren’t in control of yourself anymore’ you once said to him. Natasha somehow got you to agree to get out of bed. The Widow is rather good in manipulation, Loki had to admit. “Once you’re ready, meet me in the training room. Oh, and don’t forget to open a window. You’re starting to attract flies.” Natasha said while she was leaving your room. You turned around and were staring at the fly on your ceiling for a few minutes. Loki thought you were about to cry again, but you held back your tears and got out of bed. If only you knew it was him on the ceiling.
Once you were gone, Loki in his fly-form, buzzed towards the training room too. Settling on the top of a punching bag, giving him an excellent view over the whole room. Your training with Natasha was hilarious to watch. He loved to watch you kick someone’s ass, and as a trained warrior Natasha didn’t stand much of a chance. Tough she held up against you longer than Loki would have guessed. “So, are you liking Earth, or ehm.. Midgard as you say it, so far?” Natasha asked you. “It’s fine” you replied rather uninterested in engaging in a conversation. “Thor hoped bringing you here would distract you a bit. Is it working?” Natasha went on. “Look, I get what you all are trying to do. And it’s not that I’m ungrateful, but I just want to be alone right now” you replied while making your way to the exit. “(Y/N), we can help you” Natasha tried one last time. When you turned back Loki saw different emotions on your face. It went quickly, but he noticed the sad expression with tears forming in your eyes. You blinked to vanish the tears, and your expression changed from sad to angry, and he swore that in between he saw regret. Why regret? Regret for what? he wondered. “Stop, just stop okay. You all hated him, so don’t for a second pretend that you even care” you spat back, angrily slamming the door on your way out.
The rest of the afternoon, you got your wish. Nobody bothered to see how you were doing or to get you out of bed again. This angered Loki much, but then again it was his fault you were feeling this way. While you were crying, Loki was lost in thought again. He should, he really should go back to Asgard after today. But how could he, knowing you were hurting. He couldn’t leave you like this, but he also couldn’t bare to watch it for much longer. If he knew how much his death would affect you, he would have thought of another plan to avoid going back to his cell. Even when he was locked up, you visited him often. You weren’t angry with him, just glad he was still alive. To his surprise you got guards to agree to let you into his cell. Playing games, reading, and laughing together. He thought he would never see you again after his failed attempt to rule Midgard. Even tough he never truly wanted to rule Midgard, but had to fulfil his assignment, and saw no way of escaping his faith. That was something he couldn’t tell people. He had almost told you, the first time you visited. He really wanted to, he couldn’t stand the thought of you thinking of him like everybody else did. But he was struggling with the words and then the guards came to tell the two of you, that the visiting time was over. Before you left his cell you gave him a kiss on his cheek. “When you’re ready to tell me, I’ll be there” you had whispered. That kiss on his cheek was the best moment of his life.
In the end of the afternoon the Soldier had entered your room. He convinced you to get out of bed and took you to the living room. Loki, of course, flying right behind the two of you. Most of the team was already sitting in the living room. Thor was still on Asgard, and Loki noticed that Tony and Clint were also missing. You sat down, staring at the floor. “(Y/N), we really think you should get some professional help. We are getting worried about you” Steve began this little intervention. He was getting on and on about mental health, grief, and your sudden anger outbursts. If Loki were able in this form he would have rolled his eyes at the boring lecture. Before you got a chance to reply that door of the living room burst open. A very intoxicated Tony walked through them, going straight to the bar to pour himself another drink. I should have killed that men when I had the chance Loki thought.
Steve cleared his throat “Do you mind?” he said, clearly irritated by Tony’s behaviour. “Come on, is she still moping around because he’s dead” You looked up and gave Tony a murderous look. “Tony, stay out of this” Natasha warned him. Instead of taking her warning, Tony walked towards the group. “Come on, we all know the world is a better place without him” he continued. You stood up from your chair, balling your fists. “It’s not. Now, shut up” you yelled. “He was arrogant, egotistic, a murderer and just evil” Tony said while raising his voice. “Why would you even miss him? Why would anyone even care?” The anger was flaring through your eyes. At this point you were screaming. “He was not perfect, but who is?! He was kind, funny and incredibly smart. And given what he had to deal with in his life he is a better man than you ever could be!” You fell back in your chair, and noticed the tears falling from your face.
There was a long silence. Then Natasha broke it “You were in love with him” she said. Everyone looked at you. Loki began to grow very nervous and was holding his breath, waiting for you to react. “I am” you whispered. “Did he know?” she asked. “I- eh, no… Right before he and Thor would leave I wanted to tell him. But I got scared and decided to tell him afterwards.. and now..” you cried. “Maybe if I had, he would have stayed, or things would be different” you went on. Loki couldn’t believe what he was hearing. You were in love with HIM? Why? How long? And why hadn’t he noticed or told you that he felt the same way? He really was the stupidest man alive right now. Wait, what? You’re blaming yourself for his death?
“How could anyone ever love that monster?” Tony said. Before Loki could keep track of his thoughts you were on your feet. A sudden energy blast flew across the room, knocking Tony to the wall, he was laying unconsciousness on the ground. Everyone, including you and Loki, were in complete shock. Bruce went to Tony and confirmed that he was okay. “You have powers?” Steve asked. You were standing in pure shock, staring at your hands. Loki was also in shock, he recognized that kind of magic. It was the same as his. All this time he’d known you, he never sensed that you had magic. How could he never have known all these things about you? How could he have been so stupid? So blind? You ran towards your room and Loki flew as fast as he could. Maybe he should reveal himself, after all the only other known person for her magic was his mother. But she wasn’t alive anymore. He was, he could teach you everything he knows. Before he had a chance to decide the Soldier walked in your room.
“(Y/N), are you okay?” he asked. Stupid question, she thinks the person she loves is dead, she just discovered she has magic, a underappreciated trait from where she’s from and is currently crying Loki thought. After your stopped crying you finally spoke up. “How’s Tony doing?” you asked meekly. Loki couldn’t believe that you would even consider his wellbeing, but also loved you for it. “He will be fine, he had it coming. He is an ass when he is that drunk” Steve said. “Thor comes in next week, and we will figure something out. Maybe he knows someone who can teach you” he went on. “Do you guys want me to go back to Asgard?” you asked. Steve gave you a reassuring smile “You’re welcome for as long as you like” he said. You started to cry again, and he put his arms around you, holding you close. Loki felt jealousy stirring inside him. He wanted to be the one who could hold you in his arms. Not being able to watch anymore he flew away. He had work to do. He had a throne to conquer and think how he was going to make up for everything he is putting you through. He couldn’t wait to have you rule by his side. His queen.

fights and forgiveness
Tumblr media
pairing: loki x reader
warnings: swearing, angst if you squint, fluff
summary: you and loki get into a fight so you decide to go on patrol and work off some steam. loki finds you injured and gets very worried.
a/n: I'm finally writing for another character after quite a few months. enjoy lovlies!
**************
"why would you risk your life like that?" Loki yelled.
you had both just gotten back from a mission and you had put yourself in danger to protect a little girl from the explosion, nearly killing yourself in the process.
"I saved the girl didn't I?" you shouted back.
"yes but she isn't you!" Loki shouted, furiously.
"Loki, it's part of the job! I have to put my life in danger to protect others."
"why though?" he shouts "why do you have to? why can't we both just be normal?"
"because your a god and I can do things that no one else can. so we have to, to protect ourselves and the people we care about."
"I don't care about them y/n, I care about you!" he shouted, walking out of the room and slamming the door.
you sigh, you sit on the bed the two of you share and start running your hands through your hair.
you eventually decide that you need to get out, so you put on your suit and decide to work off some steam by going on patrol.
after an hour on patrol you were about to go back to the compound and apologise to Loki, until you hear sounds coming from the alleyway nearby.
you flew over (your powers were flying and replication, you were also very good at fighting) only to find a group of about 6 guys cornering a young girl.
"come on baby, it will be a good time" guy number one said.
"yeah come on pretty girl, come with us." guy two said, the rest of the nodding along.
"hey! leave her alone!" you say, getting the attention of the group.
"and what are you going to do about it love?" guy three said.
you run at the guy and jump, kicking him in the face. the girl, saw a chance to escape from the guys while they were busy with you and legged it.
you continue throwing punches and kicks at them. they all start to group together and looked like they are going to run at you so you replicate yourself and back away, so that you can confuse them even more.
two of the guys run at the replications and end up running into a wall. you were fighting some of the other guys and didn't notice that guy number 4 had realised which one was the real you and managed to get behind you without you noticing.
you turn around just as he sinks the blade into your stomach and you fall to your knees, clutching the wound.
"what do we do with her?" one of the guys asks.
"just leave her here." another said.
the last thing you remember was the retreating footsteps before your vision went black.
*****
Loki had been worried about you but decided to let you work off the steam and talk to you when you got back.
after an hour and a half he decides to call you, when you don't pick your phone up he starts to get worried and ends up tracking you with his powers.
upon arriving at the alley way that you lay in he let out a gasp and ran to your side, he picked you up bridal style and teleported both of you to the compound.
when he got you both to the compound he ran in with you in his arms. Thor and Steve were in the living room and upon seeing you in Loki's arms, helped get you up to the hospital wing.
the doctors that worked in the compound immediately got to work on saving you and ushered everyone out.
Loki sat outside the glass window separating you and him, he stayed there until the procedure was over and the doctors allowed him to see you.
he sat at your bedside the whole time. he refused to eat, sleep and drink, despite the other Avengers attempts to get him to look after himself.
"come on Loki, y/n wouldn't want to see you do this to yourself." Natasha had said, trying and failing to get him to eat something.
"I appreciate the effort Lady Natasha but if I go to eat and sleep, what if she wakes up or what if..." he couldn't bring himself to finish that sentence.
"how about I stay with her, you go and eat something and get some rest. I'll tell you if anything happens" Nat offered.
"fine, but alert me if anything changes." Loki said reluctantly, getting up.
"I will."
when Loki had gotten back from eating something and sleeping a bit, nothing had changed with you. but finally 2 days later you woke up.
"hey" you said, your voice groggy from sleep. you tried to sit up but Loki stopped you.
"you have to rest darling, you can't get up" he said, propping you up on the pillows and sitting back in his chair.
"y/n, I'm so sorry about what happened that night. I got mad and I should have came and apologised, not left you there." he said, holding your hand between his hands and looking at the floor shamefully.
"hey, don't put all of the blame on yourself, I shouldn't have gone out by myself and I should have looked after myself better." you said trying to make him feel better. "come on Loki, look at me." he raised his head and looked at you, his eyes filled with tears.
"it was my fault that you got hurt, I am truly sorry." Loki said, kissing your hand.
"it was never your fault Loki, okay?"
"okay."
"I'm sorry for risking my life, again." you said.
"and I'm sorry for shouting, I know you were just doing your job but I couldn't bare to lose you." Loki said "I love you."
"I love you too, so much" you say, kissing him.
******
a few days of Loki constantly worrying about you and never leaving your side, you were allowed out of the hospital wing. Loki made sure to always look after you and you made sure that he wouldn't go after the guys that did this to you.
"but I could find them easily."
"but you shouldn't kill people, Loki."
"I don't care, they hurt you. and who said anything about killing? I could just teach them a lesson."
"its still wrong."
the next day Loki seemed happier than usual, you guessed what he had done but you decided not to bring it up. you couldn't argue about something when you agreed with him to some extent.
plus they wouldn't do anything like that to anyone else, not if they got a visit from the trickster god himself.

What about an Akechi/Joker role swap AU where Akechi is still the detective prince and Joker is still the Shujin delinquent, but the major difference is that Morgana never lost his memories and found Akechi before he approached Shido with his metaverse assassination plot?
Like, imagine Akechi, bitter and jaded, who has just awakened Loki and felt the terrifying and thrilling rush of the berserk power. He's formed a plan to get back at his piece of shit father, even managed to set up a meeting, which he had to set up months in advance, and on the day he's going to present Shido with info on the metaverse, he winds up arriving a few minutes late, because even though he intended to be early, he was accosted by a talking cat (he's been in the metaverse, so he can hear him) on the way over, and in the whole wtf-ery of the moment, lost track of time. Shido, being Shido, refuses to see him and will not reschedule because he doesn't like having his time wasted.
Pissed off, Akechi leaves to find Morgana still waiting for him outside. So he doesn't look like an idiot yelling at a cat on the street, he brings Morgana back to his shitty apartment, where Morgana explains why he had found Akechi and whats up. He doesn't know about Yaldobaoth taking Igor's place, he just knows there's two champions, and Akechi was the one he found first, so he must be Igor's chosen champion. (It is my theory that it doesn't actually matter who was Igor's and Yaldobaoth's champions, it was more about the choices they each made and where they ended up.)
Akechi has no interest in saving the world, but he knows that if he wants to get back at Shido, he needs to become someone of consequence, so he agrees to undergo Morgana's training, since Morgana clearly knows more about the metaverse than he does, and he can use it to solve cold cases, earning him a place as the Detective Prince. He changes a few hearts, to pacify Morgana, too. It takes a couple years, but during his senior year in high school, he makes it, earning himself the cooperation of the police and the spotlight of the public eye. He's getting so close to making Shido notice him that he can practically taste it. Also, what’s this ‘velvet room’ he keeps dreaming about?
Then Morgana finds Kamoshida’s palace and is like ‘heyo, you thought changing hearts in the metaverse was cool, check this shit out’ and Akechi is admittedly intrigued , so he takes a look. He sees the inside of Kamoshida’s heart and is appropriately disgusted and says to Morgana, ‘hey we should totally kill this guy’s shadow.’ Morgana’s like ‘why is your first suggestion always murder, we don’t know what would happen if we killed his shadow, Igor wasn’t very clear about that bit, we should try stealing the treasure instead’ and Morgana has been useful (and it’s been really nice to have the company these past two years, though he won’t admit that) so Akechi agrees ‘fine, we’ll steal the treasure, but if that doesn’t work, then I’m killing his shadow.’
And that’s when Ryuji and Ann make an appearance (’ohmigawd, goro, be more careful with that damn app, i s2g.’) Ryuji’s mom apparently thinks Akechi is pretty neat and watches all his interviews, so Ryuji knows who he is and is delighted to find out that the lame-ass detective his mom has talked about is actually a grumpy badass in the metaverse, with this shadow that has some kind of insane power, and hey, he helped them bring down Kamoshida (alive,) so maybe he is actually pretty cool, even though sometimes he spaces out and talks about evil twins and some longed-nose dude. He decides then and there that he’s going to be Akechi’s best friend, since he apparently has none, and Ann is all too happy to join in for the ride, and all of Goro’s protests have fallen on deaf ears, and they know about the whole detective prince thing being a facade, so he might as well indulge them for now.
The ‘Phantom Thieves’ (a name that makes Goro want to roll his eyes whenever he hears it, and why is everyone calling him ‘leader?’) gain fame and change hearts, gaining new members such as this weird-ass artist dude who fights with ice, and oh, god, one Nijima is bad enough, don’t tell me there’s two! and she uses nukes, wtf?!
Around this time, he also meets Shujin’s delinquent, enigmatic transfer student whose talk of hope and justice never quite seem to reflect in his stormy grey eyes, and he and Goro are clearly birds of a feather in a way, he can tell, there’s just something about him, and he thinks this guy might actually be his best friend, but don’t tell Ryuji that, he’d never hear the end of it.
Akechi learns the truth behind Akira’s arrest and Shido’s involvement and he is disgusted to find that he genuinely wants to help this guy, and he can’t do that if Shido’s dead, maybe he doesn’t want his revenge as badly as he thought??? Oh, ew, I have feelings that aren’t anger and it’s all my friends’ fault, I can’t just leave them and go off to get revenge, they’d literally die without me, those lovable idiots. Also, when Ryuji saw his home, he pretty much insisted he stay with him instead, and Ryuji’s mom reminds him of the good times he had with his own mother, and he honestly doesn’t think he has the strength to disappoint her like that. So, he decides to change Shido’s heart, but he knows that there’s no way that this little group of miscreants is strong enough to take on the fucked up bullshit that he’s seen in Shido’s heart, so let’s hit pause on that for now.
Shido had Wakaba killed via completely non-supernatural ways and stole her research, same as before, so Futaba still has a palace. He found out Akira worked at Leblanc a while ago and started dropping by, and then somehow Ryuji found out about it, and now all the Phantom Thieves know, so much for a peaceful place to get away, but he actually doesn’t mind that much, and Akira lets Akechi keep an eye on the shop when there are no customers so he can go out and do errands and Boss doesn’t mind, so they’ve ended up hanging out there as a group from time to time and talking Phantom Thief business, so Futaba knows who they are, and asks for their help.
Okumura’s palace pretty much goes the same, Okumura dies somehow, are we responsible, why does murder actually make me feel kinda bad, stupid friends and their stupid good influence.
Goro attends the Shujin student fair as guest speaker, whoa, the class president being friends with Akechi does have its perks, doesn’t it? Akira finds them all there together and approaches them, tells them he saw them go into the metaverse, awakened his own persona, and saw a guy in a black mask kill Okumura’s shadow, hey why don’t I join you, you probably need all the help you can get, who’s heart are we stealing next, how about Sae, she knows my probabtion officer and has been giving me hell, plus I already checked, she definitely has a palace.
They agree, and oh, hey, Akira can hear Morgana talk now, but WAIT A MINUTE?! Didn’t he hear Morgana talk before when he told Goro that Leblanc didn’t sell sushi, even though Goro hadn’t asked for any?
They hack Akira’s phone, learn that Shido (Akechi recognizes that voice) will have thugs waiting to capture them when they leave the palace. They plan around it, pull the metaverse switch and manage to sneak a heavily drugged Akechi out of the warehouse Shido stashed him in by traveling through the metaverse. Shido’s lackey’s have written a fake suicide letter from the leader of the Phantom thieves, and the chief of police, under Shido’s orders, delivers a statement confirming its authenticity, and look the plan succeeded. All they need to do know is take down Shido.
Things are going great, until they get to the engine room, where Joker, having realized what happened, is waiting for them. Joker, who lost everything after he transferred, who discovered the metaverse completely alone, who didn’t mean to kill that guy’s shadow, but he attacked him first, and Shido had somehow known, had been keeping an eye on him, had him convicted for a crime that he didn’t commit in the hopes that he would break because he needed an agent in the metaverse, and so far he’s had no luck. Joker, who had nothing left to lose and had accepted the only hand that had reached out for him.
They fight, and when it looks like things are going badly for Joker, he pulls out... a second persona?!?! At least, it looks like a persona, but something about it is off. it looks familiar somehow. And then Akira asks if they knew it was possible to fuse personas and Akechi realizes what he’s looking at. These aren’t the clean executions that Caroline and Justine perform, these are personas that have been ripped apart and haphazardly thrown back together with no thought to form or elegance, look, there’s a Yaksini’s arm, and that bit right there clearly used to belong to a Rangda, and I think that piece might have belonged to a Seiryu, and Akechi should stop listing personas now because Ann thinks she’s going to be sick.
They keep fighting. Joker can’t understand the difference in power between them. After all, aren’t they the same? Unloved, unwanted, soldiers pitted against each other by some bullshit higher power?
When Joker shoots the bulkhead door closed and Futaba reports that she’s lost Joker’s reading, Akechi vows then and there that he’s going to kill Shido after all. And he almost does. He stands there, with his gun pressed to the head of the shadow of his father, his friends can’t blame him, and even Morgana knows better than to try and stop him. But he doesn’t. He remembers Akira’s madness there at the end, and wonders what he would have become of him if it weren’t for Ryuji, who somewhere along the way, he’d realized he’d stopped tolerating and started actually liking. Ann, who shared his woes about being in the public eye and swapped tips with him about how to handle the press. Yusuke, who, although he was still completely bizarre to him, appreciated the beauty in life and didn’t tease Goro for his taste in Grandpa clothes. Makoto, who knew the importance of hard work and who, between herself and her sister, had caused Goro to pick up some healthier coping mechanisms. Futaba, who made fun of him for his food blog, but liked the same nerd bullshit that he did and would bombard him with memes until his day somehow became a little less shittier. Haru, who dreamed of starting her own business and actually cared about Goro’s opinions, and could threaten someone with a smile in a way that even Goro was jealous of. And Morganna, who had reminded him what it was like to not be lonely, and demanded more sushi than he could afford, but always made sure Goro ate his fill, instead of getting so focused on his work that he forgot.
Akechi guesses that he must have turned soft somewhere during the past several months, but after seeing what happened to Akira, he can’t help but be grateful, knowing with certainty that if things had turned out differently, that would have been him. Hey, Morgana, you know that world-saving bs you talked about two years ago? Let’s leave this piece of shit here to rot and focus our attention on that instead.
And you guys know the rest.
Or, at least, that’s how I thought it would go. Feel free to share your thoughts. :)

Reasons Why Post Plus is a Terrible Idea
Tumblr has recently unveiled their new "Post Plus" feature. It allows people to put a paywall around their blogs, allowing them to charge up to $9.99 a month, with Tumblr taking a 5% cut of the creator's earnings. In this post, I will explain why this is a horrible idea.
@staff: You better listen up. I took a few hours away from my day for this. I had to have my friend Ashley help me with this, and that took time from her day too. (Thank you @patalliumapples) I'm explaining everything under the cut because this is long.
1. We Don't Have the Money
First of all, Tumblr is a social media site. This means in countries like the US, people as young as 13 can sign up and have an account. Most teenagers do not have the money to keep up with their favorite blogs for the low, low price of $9.99!
Second of all, a lot of adults on the site already are having trouble paying their bills, and don't have any content they would be willing to charge people on. As explained in this post, people are already struggling. (They also explain how to support creators better, which I will go onto later.) They don't have the money to spend on this. I, as a teenager myself, don't have enough money to spend to unlock Tumblr blogs. I don't know if I even can, I don't have a credit card or anything, and I don't want debt before I'm out of high school. Oh, and that leads me right next into the next point.
2. You could fix other things
Tumblr is called a Hellsite for many reasons, and how it breaks a lot is one of them. One problem are the Ray-Bans sunglasses bots that hack the site every so often. I have gotten one, Ashley has gotten three.
You can also barely even search on this website. Searching for tags brings up the randomest things. You can barely even search your own blog, this is how bad it is. Fixing those issues before we give you our credit card number would be a great thing.
3. People don't want it
The consensus so far is NO. In some cases, "FUCK NO" This is valid, people don't want it. We can't pay for it, and we really don't need it. Everyone hates it.
And you bet that the Tumblr-famous will try this out.
I, as of writing this, have 416 followers. I bet all of them would leave me if I tried to do a paid post. (Not like I can, I'm a broke teenager, but still.) That would limit the market.
And other people have expressed they would leave anyone who put their posts behind a paywall, such as in this newly-viral post.
4. Monetization of fanfic
Alright. *Cracks fingers* I get to show off my knowledge of copyright law.
Fair use that covers fanfiction does not cover having to pay for it. Monetization of fanfiction is not legal, and if someone tries, the original content creator can issue a DMCA takedown order. The person who posted and monetized the fanfiction will be forced to take down their post, hurting their earnings. This will affect Tumblr.
Also, as we saw recently with a Loki T-shirt on Etsy, big corporations are known for taking down anything they consider infringement, even if it falls under fair use. There was a scare a while back on Ao3 (Archive of Our Own) that Disney would take down their fanfiction, but Ao3 had a legal time that can fight for them. Tumblr probably does not, and would probably lose a legal battle against Disney.
In fact, Ao3 does not allow any sort of links to other monetizable websites, like Pateron and Ko-fi, on their platform to avoid potential legal trouble. It's included in their terms of service, which you can read here. I would recommend it, and to check out some other links. They explain legal issues quite well.
And as satirized in this post, trying to find posts on Tumblr for a DMCA takedown is pretty damn hard.
5. You can get around paying for a post through the reblogs.
Despite the fact that is something you're technically not supposed to do, people can just copy and paste the content. The fact is if anyone has a Post Plus post, you bet the entirety of Tumblr is going to get around that. After all "you can share a teaser of +Post Content through the reblog function on the Services" (From the Tumblr TOS)
6. We've had mirror sites that could probably get around the paywall
In the past, we have had many mirror sites. They are the exact mirror of our Tumblr, tracking everything right down to our reblogs. Last I heard they were all shut down, though Tumbex sounded like it was going to come back. If these mirror sites are smart enough, they would be another way around the paywall.
7. You can't block people who are paying for your content
This is a problem. People can harass you, and sometimes, this Hellsite won't take them off. The block button is an important tool. I, for one, currently have 11 people blocked for various reasons. Some of them were messing with me in the reblogs of a post (it wasn't even their place to do so) and I didn't think Tumblr would count this as harassment.
If you can't block people, and even with the risk of it hurting your earnings, it's not good. Even remotely.
8. There are other ways to support creators that are much better.
As said in the very first reason, creators hate this Post Plus. They prefer being supported in other ways. People also don’t always want to be paid for the content (not even counting legal issues) And if they want to there are already platforms set up for them to use. For example, Pateron has tiers you can set up for membership, ranging up to $100. There, you know what you walked into. You’re not expecting free content, like on Tumblr, you’re building a relationship with the people in your community. Ko-fi lets people donate directly to their content creators, and won’t take any of their donations, unlike the 5% cut Tumblr is planning on taking. Both platforms also offer features that would not be available on Tumblr. Creators are also more likely to already have one of these set up, and keep Tumblr for their free content.
9. Tumblr could make money through better ads
Tumblr ads are famously . . . what’s the word? Ah, yes, “batshit” is the word I’m looking for. I’ve gotten ads for tattoo aftercare, signs of heart disease (the picture provided was someone with their nails painted blue), maps of the USA, celebrities that has passed away, lists of bad cities in my state, graphics of chickens with Hindi (note: I am American), and apparently now I should be worried if my dog licks their paws. (?) As I went to check my dash while writing this post, I saw a small air cooler that was apparently more powerful than A/C being advertised.
No one clicks on them except for a laugh, or if they accidentally thought it was something that was actually interesting. Most of the time, it is not. Tumblr could do something like Instagram and actually have good ads and make more money off of it. It may not be as much as they thought they were going to make, but it’s better than what they have now. (It’s a low bar.)
10. This is the same website that spearheaded DashCon
You remember DashCon, don’t you?
Tumblr media
This seems to illustrate the website's stupidity in one picture and this is why you shouldn't trust us with money.
If you have any other reasons why this is bad reason, reblog the post with your reasons. I'd like to hear them, and don't forget to tag the staff.
There is a survey Tumblr wants you to fill out here, it's a step you can take. You can also listen to the protest @postplus-protest which should help. It starts August 6th, it's going to be a great time.

Opening Night
Pairing: Loki x reader Summary: When Loki scores the lead in a production of West Side Story, the two of you become fast friends. You help convince him to face his fears and invite the Avengers to see the show. Warnings: a bit of innuendo, fluffy, and extremely self-indulgent A/N: It isn’t necessary to know the plot of West Side Story to read this, but I still recommend you guys check it out. They made it into a movie that’s pretty much the same as the stage version. And if you’re interested in the songs I used in this, they’re here and here. Also, idk if this is common knowledge, but a stage manager is the person in charge of tech, set changes, and all that jazz. Theater has always been a huge part of my life, so I definitely wrote this with myself in mind but I hope you can all enjoy too!

Disclaimer: Picture not mine.
He looked so beautiful up there on that stage, you thought. He almost didn’t get the part either; Auggie, the director, had been worried that putting the God of Mischief in the lead role would be bad for business. You’d fought for him, though, and you’d been right; tickets were nearly sold out once people found out an Avenger was performing. Besides that, Loki was extremely talented, and you were certain no one else could have carried the role quite so well as he had been. It was a definite plus that he had become a very close friend, too. And you maybe, just maybe, had a tiny crush on him.
“It’s getting late,” you said once he finished singing, applauding as you walked out of the wings. Everyone else had already gone home, so it was just you and Loki. He’d wanted to stay and practice a bit more, and as stage manager, you had to stay to lock the place up. “Are you ready to head out?”
He looked out at the empty seats in the audience of the community theater. You wondered why he hadn’t tried out for off-Broadway, or even Broadway itself; he was certainly talented enough. Somehow, he didn’t see it. You could still remember the look of excitement on his face when you officially met him for the first time. How he’d told you he hadn’t been expecting the lead role. It hadn’t been what he’d tried out for, after all. You assured him that in this production of West Side Story, it was a clear choice who should play Tony. Him. Your friendship moved rapidly after that.
“I do not know, darling,” he replied. “Opening night is this week, and I want to make sure I am as good as I can be. If you would like to lock up and leave, I can just teleport home.”
“No. If you’re staying, I’m staying.” He smiled as you put your bag down and sat on one of the wooden blocks you’d painted weeks before. “Don’t you think you should give your voice a break, though?”
“Ah you forget darling, I have the stamina of a god,” he replied with a wink. You averted your eyes, hating where your mind went after that statement. “Besides, I have been resting it at home.”
“Fine, but I swear if you lose your voice, I’m not helping you break the news to Auggie,” you giggled.
He chuckled, “Fair enough, darling.”
Convinced that he could handle it, you let him play the track and start singing. As he practiced his part from the Quintet, he walked over and knelt before you. You were certain the expression of complete adoration on his face was just good acting, but it still made your heart flutter. As the music crescendoed, he stood up and offered you his hand, taking you to center stage. He kept singing to you the whole time, his hand coming to caress your cheek as was dictated by his choreography. Again, you knew that’s all it was, but the butterflies in your stomach didn’t care.
As the song ended, he didn’t immediately move to turn off the music like he usually did. Instead, he stood where he was a minute more, one hand cupping your cheek, the other on your waist. A kiss most certainly wasn’t supposed to happen here, but you swore he started to lean in towards you. Afraid to break the spell, you didn’t say anything. When the next song started playing, he came out of whatever trance he was in and moved back, clearing his throat.
“Sorry,” he apologized, the faintest of blushes coloring his cheeks. “I just got lost in the song, I suppose.”
“Oh, uh, yeah,” you replied, rocking back and forth on your heels, disappointed. “It’s fine, I totally get it.”
After turning off all the lights, the two of you finally left, stopping for a coffee on the way home, as had become tradition. You laughed as he told you a story of his childhood on Asgard, animatedly waving his hand about. Waiting for a light at a crosswalk, your phone chimed, and you checked it.
“Shoot. I got to go, Loki,” you informed him. “The copy place finished with the playbills, and I should run to pick them up before it closes. I don’t wan’t to hold you up, though.”
“Nonsense,” he said, changing direction to walk back the way you’d came. “It would be my honor to accompany you.”
You made it just in time to pick up the box, which was heavy enough that you swallowed your pride and let Loki carry it. Since it was cheaper to just fold and staple the pages yourself, you had quite a bit of work ahead of you. Sure, you’d get the rest of the crew to help you tomorrow, but you wanted to get a jump start tonight. You told Loki as much when you’d started the trek back in the direction of your apartment, and his answer surprised you.
“Why not come to the Tower? I can help you put them together,” he offered.
“Oh,” you replied, the butterflies in your stomach returning. “I wouldn’t want to impose.”
“It would be no trouble to have you, darling. Really.” It was already dark out, making it hard to see, but you were pretty sure he was blushing again. “It is much closer than your home. Of course, there is no pressure to say yes.”
You shyly smiled at him. “Thank you, Loki. That’s very generous. I would love to come.”
The smile he gave you could have lit up the whole city, it was so bright. It was probably silly to be so happy that you could make his face light up like that, but you couldn’t help it. That was when you realized that your little crush had turned into something much, much more. You were falling in love with him. You were convinced it was unrequited though, so you wouldn’t say anything. You just hoped that you’d stay in touch once the show was done and rehearsals stopped.
Everyone knew of Avenger Tower, of course, but few had ever been inside. You marveled at the massive lobby as he led you to a private elevator that said “Avengers Only”. It made sense, you thought, that they should have their own if they lived here. And of course it was so high tech that it had to scan his eye to start working. He chuckled a little at the amazement on your face, thinking you looked absolutely adorable.
“Ok,” he whispered as you stepped out of the lift. “I am sure most of the team is asleep by now, so if we just slip past and-”
“Brother!” Thor boomed, cutting off Loki. “There you are! You’ve been gone all day- Oh. And who is this?” he asked, noticing you.
You introduced yourself, and Thor shook your hand with a firm grip. Even though you’d already known Loki for months now, you were still freaking out a little at meeting another Avenger. Really, how many civilians could say they knew not one, but two superheroes? You nearly lost it when Iron Man and Black Widow rounded the corner.
“Hey, Reindeer Games. You made a friend,” Mr. Stark said. Then he wiggled his eyebrows and added, “Or maybe something more.”
“Oh, shove off, Tony,” Nat said, flicking the side of his head. “You’re ridiculous.”
You introduced yourself to the newcomers, and they asked you to call them by their first names. The only other time you’d been this star struck was, unsurprisingly, when Loki had shown up at the audition. You looked over at Loki, who seemed rather uncomfortable. Though you wanted to chalk it up to him just being nervous his two worlds were colliding, you could tell there was something more to it. You worried for a second that he was embarrassed of you, but you didn’t really think it was that either, certain that notion was just your insecurity getting the better of you.
“Well, we should be going then,” Loki said, ready to retreat to his room.
“Oh, come on,” Tony replied. “That’s no fun. Why don’t you guys join us for a drink in the kitchen?”
You were tempted to say yes, but Loki shifted the box in his hands, reminding you of why you were there in the first place. Besides, if Loki wasn’t feeling up to it, you didn’t want to subject him to socializing. Not to mention an evening alone with him sounded absolutely magical.
“No, it’s fine,” you answered, and Loki sent you an appreciative smile. “We’ve got work to do, anyway.”
“Oh?” Thor questioned. “Does it happen to have something to do with the mystery box my brother is carrying?”
“Actually, yes,” you told him with a smile. “See, they’re playbills for-”
“For the show that they are a stage manager for,” Loki interjected, looking absolutely panicked. “That is all. No more questions needed.”
“Oh, that’s so exciting!” Nat smiled. “Are the tickets available yet? Can we come see it?”
“No, sorry, it is sold out,” Loki replied before you could, an expression of utter befuddlement on your face. “Maybe next time. Now, as we said, we have work to do. Alone.”
“Hey, it’s alright, Reindeer Games,” Tony said, winking, and ushered the others away. “I get what you’re saying. You two kids have fun now.”
Loki’s face was burning from embarrassment as he led you to his quarters. Your mouth dropped open at the sheer size of it. You guessed that after the lobby it shouldn’t have surprised you. Besides how vast it was, it somehow screamed Loki. The green furniture with black and gold accents. The numerous floor to ceiling bookshelves that didn’t have a single inch unoccupied. The carefully crafted decor, often featuring snakes subtly carved into it. And you were completely surrounded by his scent that you could never exactly figure out, but was very distinctly his.
You were brought back to reality by the light thud of the box on a table. As you walked toward him, Loki kept his eyes averted, focusing on taking the stacks of paper out. Standing beside him, you worked in silence for a few minutes until you couldn’t take it anymore, and finally had to ask what was on your mind.
“So, uh, what exactly was all that about?” you inquired.
“Oh, they are just very animated people,” he replied with a shrug. “And Stark is, well, Stark, so he has basically no filter. I am very sorry if they bothered you, darling.”
“That’s very sweet, Loki, but I didn’t mind it at all, actually,” you replied, folding the first playbill together. He snapped his fingers and a couple of staplers appeared on the table. “That’s not really what I was talking about, though.”
“Oh? Whatever did you mean then?”
“Please don’t play dumb,” you begged. The light clicks from the stapler filled the silence of the room as you waited for him to reply. When he didn’t say anything, you sighed. “I mean, why didn’t you say you had the lead in the show that these are for? In fact, why haven’t you told them about it already?”
He shrugged and made a noncommittal mumble, focusing on the repetitive task in hopes of distracting himself. You stopped working in favor of resting your hand atop his. It made Loki stop, too, and he finally looked you in the eye.
“Look,” you began. “You obviously don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to; I understand, and I’d never want to pressure you into something that would make you uncomfortable. But I know you bottle a lot of things up, and that’s not really healthy. So if you do want or need to talk... I don’t know, I guess I just want you to know that I’m here for you.”
Then you hugged him. The simple action seemed to startle him so much that you feared it was unwanted and you’d been too forward. But when he hugged you back, you could feel the gratitude in his embrace, easing your worries. It was like he was holding onto you for dear life. As if you you were a lifesaver, and he was adrift at sea. It was a tense sort of desperation leaving his body, you realized, as he sank against your touch. You gently rubbed his back as his head nuzzled into the crook of your neck. You’d always thought he might be touch starved, but now you could feel it in the way he practically molded his body against yours, obviously trying to make the most of the contact. You wondered if that may have something to do with why he kept West Side Story a secret. Maybe he’d been neglected too many times in his life, now thinking the things he does don’t matter to anyone.
“I suppose I am just scared, darling. Scared that they would not want to come, that they would make fun of me, that I would fail in front of them,” he sighed. “Perhaps it is silly. I am sorry.”
“Oh, Loki, there’s no need to apologize. I meant what I said, I’m here for you.” You didn’t think it was possible, but he held you even closer. “Everyone gets stage fright from time to time. And you’ve never even performed before. Whatever the reason, it’s still perfectly valid and understandable.”
“Thank you, darling,” he sniffled, and you realized he was crying.
Leading him over to the couch, you sat and continued to hold him. You whispered and cooed calming things in his ear. He tried to apologize for the tear stains marking your shirt, but you were having none of that. Everyone deserved a good crying session every once in a while, and you told him as much, encouraging him to let it out.
“Better?” you asked, wiping away the last few tears from his cheeks when he did finally calm down. There were some stray locks of hair sticking to his wet face, and you brushed them away, too.
“Mhm,” he nodded. He looked so fragile in this moment that you wished there was something more you could do to help him. “Thank you so much, darling. I think I needed that.”
You were worried that kissing the tip of his nose would be too intimate an action, but you couldn’t help yourself. You were very happy when he preened under the attention. “You’re very welcome, Loki.”
“I must ask, you are not going to tell them, are you? That I have the lead, I mean.”
“Well, no.” You ran your fingers through his hair as he sighed in relief. “But you should.”
“Do I have to?” he asked, giving you puppy dog eyes that made you chuckle a bit.
“I mean, it’s not required. I think you’d feel better if you did, though.”
“I suppose.”
“From what I can see, they love you, Loki,” you comforted him. “They’re your family, don’t you think?”
“How is it that you always know what to say?” he smiled up at you.
“I guess I’m just magic,” you laughed. He made to get up, but it seemed like it was a chore to tear himself away from you. You gently pulled him back down to you. “You don’t have to get up. You know, if you don’t want to.”
“I do not, but we hardly put any of the playbills together.” Even as he said that, he cuddled into your side. “I feel guilty taking up all our time.”
“Believe it or not, I’m perfectly happy to spend our time like this,” you reassured him, reaching for a blanket and covering your bodies with it. You’d been so concerned about Loki’s well-being that you hadn’t really contemplated the situation you were in. Now you couldn’t help but wonder if this snuggling was a normal thing for friends to do, or if it were a sign of something more. “I’d much rather help you through whatever’s on your mind than put together some playbills. There’s still plenty of time for that.”
“Thank you again, darling,” he hummed as both of you began to doze off, tired from a long day of run-throughs. As sleep claimed you, though you felt it must have been a dream, you swore you heard him whisper, “I love you.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The rest of the week leading up to opening night was so hectic, you barely even had a second to dwell on that night with Loki. It was probably better that way, for if you had thought too hard about that morning, waking up in each other's arms, you were certain your heart would burst from happiness. So, no, it was better that you were focusing on the show.
“Guess who, darling,” Loki whispered in your ear as you reviewed the script in the wings, making sure everything was set for top of show.
“Loki,” you smiled, spinning to face him and throwing your arm around his shoulders. One of his arms encircled your waste. When you stepped back, his other came around from behind his back to present you with a bouquet of flowers. “Thank you so much! I actually have something for you, too.”
You grabbed the arrangement that you’d bought and gave it to him. You nearly melted under his soft gaze as he expressed his thanks. His makeup was already done, accentuating his already striking beauty. A large part of you wanted to lean forward and kiss his plump, pink lips.
“I have some news,” he declared. “I have told my fellow Avengers about the show. Sort of.”
“Sort of?” you asked, cocking your head.
“Well, I left tickets and a note for them to come tonight.” He nervously shifted his weight. “They do not yet know that they will be watching me perform, though. It was too hard to tell them, so I figured why not show them?”
You beamed at him. “That’s wonderful! I’m so proud of you. You’re going to do amazing.”
There was a slight hesitation behind his eyes, as if he was contemplating something very carefully. “Darling, there is something I have to tell you.”
“Yes?”
Just as he opened his mouth to speak again, the director burst into the wings. “There you are, Loki. I’ve been looking all over for you. Mic checks in five,” he said.
“My apologies, Auggie,” he replied before turning to you and resting a hand on your arm. “We’ll talk later, ok? Have a good show.”
“Thanks. Break a leg,” you nodded as he left, agonized by not knowing what he was going to tell you. You noticed Auggie giving you a look. “What?”
“I swear, you two better kiss before this week is over,” he muttered, leaving the wings shaking his head.
The remainder of the day passed in a blur, and you could hardly believe that it was already time for the show. You’d peeked out before it started and noticed the Avengers sitting in the front row. Those tickets had been sold out for weeks, and you smiled, realizing that Loki had wanted to invite them all along. He just needed a little push to actually do it.
Before Loki walked out onto the stage, you gave his hand a little squeeze. Despite how nervous you knew he was, he gave his best performance yet. After his first song was done, you glanced out at the audience to see the Avengers already giving him a standing ovation. You could see in his eyes how taken aback he was. He waited around in the wings until your set change was done so you could share in his joy. He gave you a quick, tight hug, absolutely radiant.
The rest of the show went perfectly, and Loki stunned the audience every time he stepped on stage. You were beyond happy for him, especially when he received thundering applause during bows. He came and hugged you again as soon as you finished closing the curtain.
“Loki, you were amazing,” you told him.
“Thank you, darling. And your set changes were flawless,” he complimented you in return. “I cannot believe the first show is done already.”
The two of you talked for a minute more before he had to go change out of his costume. You looked out from the stage a little bit later to see the Avengers hugging him and giving him more flowers than you could count. Even from a distance, you could see happy tears welling in his eyes. It made you grin uncontrollably to see him happy like that.
Later that night, you’d told the rest of the cast and crew to go ahead to the diner to celebrate without you, that you’d catch up later. You wanted to stay behind and touch-up a set piece that some paint had slightly chipped off of. Suffice it to say, you were a little startled when a voice cut through what you had presumed to be an empty theater.
“Always you. Every thought I’ll ever know,” Loki began singing his part from Tonight, walking down the aisle towards the stage. “Everywhere I go, you’ll be. All the world is only you and me.”
You chuckled as he ascended the stairs and took your paintbrush from your hand, setting it down on the tarp. He skipped to his next part in the song and began twirling you around the stage. After hearing so many rehearsals, you knew the words by heart and joined in, singing the duet with him. When you reached the dialogue breaking up the song, you stopped dancing, both panting a little.
“Loki,” you laughed. “What are you still doing here? I thought you went to the diner with everyone else.”
“Yes, well, you were not going to be there yet, and I have not had the chance to tell you what I have wanted to all day.”
“Oh my goodness,” you gasped. “I nearly forgot about that in all the excitement of the day. But you have my full attention now. What’s up?”
“I love you,” he said plainly.
You weren’t convinced that this wasn’t a dream or a hallucination of some sorts. But no, he’d said it, clear as day. He loves you. Loki loves you. It was shocking, to say the least. Of course, it was completely welcome, though. In your surprise, you took long enough to formulate a response that his smile faltered a little. His worries were erased when you kissed him, however. The god responded immediately, kissing you back with just as much passion as you did him.
“I love you, too,” you told him just as simply as when he’d said it to you.
After finishing up in the theater, you exited the building. Once outside, Loki couldn’t resist kissing you again before meeting up with the rest of the company. And, being the fluffy sap he was, he absolutely had to tell you he loved you again, this time referencing the show.
“Te adoro,” he said.
You beamed at him again. “Te adoro, Loki.”
The other side part 1 : Imagine the Avengers as villains
(by the power invested in me, you are magically teleported to another dimension.)
Pov : You are an Avenger with the ability to shapeshift (nobody knows about your powers, not even the Avengers.) You prefer not to use them and concentrate on being a good agent for the SHIELD. However, one day, you wake up and find that some things have changed..
Tony Stark :
Tumblr media
You wake up in a deserted place. Everything seems so familiar, and yet so different. You seem to be in the Avengers tower but, everything is so dark and gloom. There is no light and this is when you hear footsteps walking in your direction. You try to get up and get in a defensive position, but your head is swinging. Suddenly, there is light. It takes you a moment to get used to the blinding light, but once you do, you recognize the person instantly.
" T..Tony ?"
You manage to ask as the man is now clearly in view. However, he doesn't respond. He only eyes you up and down with a stare that makes you shiver in fear. He suddenly walks towards you and his hand slides in your inner pocket to get out your identity card. He takes a glance and frowns before uttering.
" Y/N L/N.."
He then looks up at you with his eyes narrowed in suspicion.
" Who are you ? And how did you get in here ?"
You are surprised that he doesn't recognize you and you start to think that all of this is some kind of joke.
" Come on, Tony ! It's me ! I'm your friend !"
His eyes darken and he only chuckles.
" Sorry for you, sweetheart. I don't have any friends."
Suddenly, he puts on his suit that, instead of being its usual bright red and yellow color, is now black and silver. You frown in incomprehension and take a step back.
" T..Tony. You can't hurt me. You're a hero, remember ?"
But Tony only laughs from inside his suit at your words.
" Me ? A hero ? You are losing it.."
You shake your head, confused, and cry out.
" But, you are ! You saved me ! You care about people !"
He seems to think for a moment and, to your surprise, gets out of the suit to stare at you with an eyebrow raised.
"Me ? Care ? It's like you're describing a whole other man, sweetcheeks. The truth is..I don't care. The world can burn. Money is power. And if I follow that logic, I'm a God..And why would a God meddle with commoners ?"
You can't believe what you are hearing..Tony seems so cold now, looking down at you as if you are an ant on his path..It scares you..But then, someone crashes through the window and stands in front of you defensively.
" Mister Stark ! You're under arrest !"
To your surprise, you recognize the voice of Peter..But why would he attack Stark ?! It doesn't make any sense ! But, Tony doesn't seem surprised. He only gets back to his suit and smiles at Peter with a wicked grin.
" We meet again, Spiderboy. You know, my offer still stands. You can join me ?"
But Peter shakes his head negatively before shouting.
" Never !"
You are shocked and finally, try to talk to Peter that doesn't seem surprised either.
" P..Peter ?"
He turns his head towards you, surprised that you would know his name. However, before you could say anything else, you black out.
Bruce Banner :
Tumblr media
You smile widely as you recognize Dr Banner. But the moment you take one step towards him, he cowers in fear. You instantly know that something is wrong, as he has marks of torture all over his body and wraps his arms around himself defensively.
" Who are you ?! I..I'll call them !"
You frown in incomprehension. Call who ? He seems to understand your confusion and adds.
" The..The Downfallers ! They're going to kill you if you touch me !"
You are about to ask who are the Downfallers when someone appears behind you.
" No need for that, my friend. They're all gone."
You turn around to see a man in a black suit, looking at Banner that seems to be extremely frightened by the man.
" Dr Kaecilius.."
He whispers almost painfully. You automatically put yourself in front of Dr Banner with your arms extended, ready to defend him if the man was to hurt him. The man arks an eyebrow at your action, but only asks with curiosity.
" Why are you defending him ?"
You try to see if it's a trap, but once you know he isn't joking, you answer.
" Because Dr Banner is a good man that protects lots of people ! Him and Hulk have done many good things to protect Earth and I won't let you hurt him !"
To your utter surprise, it's Dr Banner that replies spitefully.
" They caged me. They tracked me. They tortured me..Why would I ever protect them ?"
This..This can't be right. Doctor Banner loves people. He wants to help people. But then, Dr Banner screams and groans in agony. You want to kneel beside him to help, but the man suddenly tackles you to the ground as Dr Banner, now Hulk, throws a desk at you before jumping through a window. The last thing you see are the eyes of Dr Kaecilius before you black out.
Antman :
Tumblr media
You wake up in a room you don't recognize and see Scott by your side. You smile in relief.
" Oh my God! I'm so glad to see you, Scott! You won't believe what happened ! One moment I'm in the lounge with everyone and then suddenly, I end up here and..What are you doing ?"
You notice that he has his hands inside a nearby cupboard and he suddenly stands up with his hands in the air.
" Oh. Oops. You got me. Guilty as charge. I was going to rob you but then I noticed that..well..you don't really have anything."
You ark an eyebrow. Scott ? Stealing ? This is new..
" Thank you..I think ?"
He then starts dancing and you frown in confusion.
" Humm..What are you doing now ?"
" Keeping you busy, darling."
You don't even have the time to understand what he means when you get hit on the back of the head by someone. You hear them running out of the house by the window, followed by another set of footsteps.
" Sh*t!"
It's the last thing you hear before blacking out completely.
Dr Strange :
Tumblr media
You find yourself in a strange place where words seem to be floating around you. You can breathe and hear two people fighting not far from you. You get up and are shocked to see Dr Strange and Wanda..fighting ?! You don't have the time to think more about the situation when Wanda shouts.
" It's over ! Give up, Dr Strange ! I'm stronger than you will ever be !"
You crawl even closer to hear them better and try to understand the situation. Plus, who are you supposed to side with ?! However, the answer quickly comes as Strange let's out his best evil laugh before replying to Wanda in a threatening low voice.
" Maybe, but I will never tire. I can't say the same for you. I can keep dying and dying. But, there will be one time when you will be too tired to fight, and then, I'll kill you. This is how things are now, Witch ! You and me. Trapped in this moment. Endlessly."
She grits her teeths and starts shooting at him, trying to hit him. He only laughs while dodging every single one of her attacks. Suddenly, you lose your grip and fall right in the middle of the fight. They both look at you with widened eyes, surprised, as you get up and look at the both of them, unable to find your words.
" Who are you ?!"
Dr Strange finally yells and you turn towards him with an awkward smile.
" Ah ah. Funny you ask. My name is Y/N. And I come from a dimension where we are..friends ?"
He quickly checks your story and his eyes widen as he finds out that you are right. He wants to get to you, but Wanda puts herself in front of you defensively and Stephen frowns, clearly annoyed.
" Move, Witch. This has nothing to do with you."
But she refuses and Strange sighs loudly.
" Fine. I'll delay your death, for now."
He then clicks his fingers together and you find yourself on Earth. Wanda looks back at you to make sure you are alright, but you black out.
Bucky :
Tumblr media
You don't even have the time to understand what's going on that Bucky is standing in front of you with a slight smirk.
" Hello doll..Mind if I borrow you for a second ?"
You don't have the time to answer that he takes you by the arm and points the head of his gun against your head.
" Get out of there, Loki ! Or I kill them !"
To your surprise, Loki gets out from underneath a car and raises his hands in surrender.
" Don't do it, Bucky. Let the human go.."
But Bucky doesn't and only digs the end of his gun further against your skull, painfully.
" I don't know..Depends. Are you willing to give me what I want ?"
Loki looks at you for a second before sighing in defeat and taking out a bright blue cube from underneath his cloak.
" Give me the human, and it's yours."
You bite your lower lip. Is it a nightmare ?! Loki is actually bargaining your life for the tesseract ?! He smiles reassuringly at you and you can't help but smile back..Even though Bucky is still threatening you with a gun.
" Give me the tesseract..and I'll consider it."
Loki takes a shaky breath before walking towards him with the tesseract in his hand. Suddenly, he stops and smirks at Bucky.
" Catch."
He then throws the Tesseract in the air and Bucky pushes you forwards to catch the tesseract. Loki catches you and whispers to you.
" Hold on."
To your biggest surprise, he gets out Mjölnir and summons a portal to get out of here. You look at Bucky that catched..nothing. The tesseract was a false and he glares at Loki that only winks in response. He lets out a scream of rage and starts running towards you, but you disappear before he can reach you.
Thor :
Tumblr media
You smile when you recognize Thor and run towards him. However, you quickly slow down when you see his sour face. He continues to advance menacingly towards you with Stormbreaker in his hand. You quickly understand that something is wrong and throw yourself on the floor as he uses Stormbreaker to throw lightning at you. To your greatest horror, it hits some SHIELD agents behind you. You turn towards Thor with tears in your eyes as you scream.
" Thor ! What's happening to you ?!"
He doesn't answer you, he just uses his thunder to grab some SHIELD agents and throw them away. Your eyes widen as he seems to be on a murder rampage. You try to get to him, but someone does it first. You can't believe your eyes when you see Hella with tears in her eyes.
" Thor ! Brother ! Please ! Stop this nonsense at once !"
But he doesn't listen to her and grabs his axe to attack her. He isn't himself..and so isn't Hella. She just tried to save you ! And wasn't she dead ?! You are so confused and before you can really comprehend what's happening to you, you black out.
Captain America :
Tumblr media
You find yourself in a deserted metro station and turn around to see..
" Oh thank God ! Captain, can you explain what's going on ?!"
But Steve stays quiet and you quickly notice that something is definitely wrong..He is looking threateningly at you and the way he moves makes you shiver in fear. You take a step back and this is when he asks coldly.
" Who are you ? And how do you know me ?"
This is when you know that this is not your Steve in front of you. It can't be..But then, another man appears that you don't recognize..He has long graceful blond hair and his whole appearance screams fantasy tale. He stands in front of you defensively and Steve automatically chuckles darkly in hatred.
" Ronan..I was wondering when you would show up.."
The blond man quickly looks back at you to check that you are alright before looking back at Rogers with a frown. Ronan..You had heard that name before..but where ?
" Surrender, Captain..Or you may regret it."
But Rogers doesn't listen to him and only whistles. An helicopter appears and Captain tauntingly waves goodbye before running outside and jumping to catch a rope. Ronan quickly runs after him. You try to get after them as well, but suddenly black out.
Falcon :
Tumblr media
You see Falcon attacking some members of SHIELD and frown in confusion. Was there spies among your ranks ? You approach Falcon and start fighting by his side. However, at the end, he only glares at you before taking something that strangely looks like the tesseract..
" I'm taking this with me..I appreciate the help but, the tesseract is mine, cutie."
You frown..He had never called you cutie before. And if this is the tesseract, why sound so menacing when you would both bring it back to the tower ? However, you don't have the time to think more about it since you spot Zemo, looking down at Sam. You tackle Sam to the ground just in time as Zemo starts shooting at him. However, Sam suddenly pushes you out of him harshly and jumps out to fly away. You think it's like at training, you have to take his legs and you would both fly home..But when you jump and catch his legs, he seems surprised at first and then, gives you a hard glare before harshly stomping on your hands. You fall and scream. You close your eyes and try to contain your tears as the world goes black.
Hawkeye :
Tumblr media
You don't have the time to truly process what's going on that you see an arrow lodge right in the eye of a SHIELD agent. You would recognize that arrow anywhere..
" Oh no..Hawkeye. What have you done ?"
You run in the direction of the arrow and find him, surrounded by many dead bodies. Your hand flies to your mouth so fast and you feel nauseous as Hawkeye turns towards you. His eyes are as cold as ice and they seem to pierce right through you.
" Well..That's a first..I missed one."
You are so shocked by his sudden change in behavior that you don't react when he walks towards you menacingly. He takes his bow and suddenly shoots an arrow at you, but a bright blue light runs in front of you stops the arrow. You automatically recognize..Quicksilver ? But..But that's impossible.
" Bet you didn't see that coming.."
He gets put his infamous line and you know, it's him. However, Hawkeye only chuckles darkly.
" As a matter of fact, I did."
Suddenly, the arrow exploses and sends Quicksilver flying against a wall. You immediately run by his side to check if he is still breathing and sigh in relief as you feel a pulse. You look up to see Hawkeye walking away and stand up to yell at him.
" What happened to you, Clint ?!"
Hawkeye stops dead in his tracks at his first name and turns around to look one last time at you. He narrows his eyes, as if he couldn't recognize you before running away. You want to get back to Quicksilver..But the world turns black.
Black Widow :
Tumblr media
You end up in a sort of complex where you see multiple agents on the floor. You take out your own gun, wondering if an enemy had succeeded in entering..However, you are relieved to see Natasha walking towards you. You smile and want to ask if everything is alright, but she suddenly gets out two guns and starts shooting at you. You just have the time to jump out of the way. Your heartbeat quickens. Why is she shooting at you ?!
"Natasha! It's me! It's Y/N!"
But she doesn't seem to hear you..or to even recognize you. She just continues shooting until someone runs past you, avoiding all of her bullets with frightening agility. They start fighting each other and you are impressed by the other agent's fighting techniques. He is as or even better than Natasha ! His fighting skills are incredible. However, Natasha still manages to get the upper hand and throws a kick at his face that sends him flying. She then throws some kind of mini-bombs and you immediately put yourself on top of him. You didn't like using your powers, but you wouldn't let him die after he saved you life. You grow some kind of shell around you both. The bombs explode and when it's safe, you retract and get up. Natasha is gone and you have a knocked out agent on the floor..Great. However, you suddenly feel yourself blacking out and fall to the floor as well.
Astral Pt. 13 (Loki x Reader)
I’m introducing ANOTHER character :D Morgan is very interesting and her powers are like Kang’s I’m very curious as to who would win in a fight tbh i wish i could’ve written an action scene because she can mind control and OH the drama that I could have played with! You guys are lucky cuz i had something worse written >:D
Tumblr media
You and Loki are eating breakfast together in silence. When you finish your plate Loki tells you to grab a book from his quarters, while he finishes, so he can help you research Asgard. Then meet him in the common area since no one is there right now.
Loki likes to teach you and watch your curiosity flare as you read up on Asgard, its customs, how healers work, how royalty works, instead of telling you. It’s the least he can do since you’ll never actually see Asgard in person. He’s a fantastic storyteller but you know he has a weakness, that weakness being that when you truly concentrate on something sometimes you stick your tongue out a bit and narrow your eyes. Other times you look at the book with guileless fascination. Plus, Loki knows there’s more satisfaction from learning on your own. He’s always there to answer your questions and debate with you though.
You walk back into the common area after grabbing the book, Loki looks at you, then a cloud of dark green appears between you both. Before you can react accordingly feminine arms are yanking you into the cloud of magic and you’re in someone’s arms definitely not at the tower anymore. You can only imagine what Loki is thinking. The last thing he probably saw was the book fall when you dropped it. Now he’s probably thinking the worst is going to happen, that you’re going to die, and honestly you don’t know what’s going on. For all you know you might actually be about to die.
You try to wave off the nausea and dizziness following the teleportation you endured and assess your surroundings but someone is roughly pulling you somewhere. Just as you get your wits back there is a tight rope constricting your hands behind your back and around your ankles. You’re shoved into a rocky wall, twisting, back first causing you to let out a breathless grunt and slide into a sitting position on the ground.
Looking up you see a beautiful woman. She stands tall, her chin out in confidence. Her pale, petite face is framed by pitch black hair, the long tendrils held in braids resting on her chest and trailing to her hips they’re so long. She wears a green and black corset that flows into thigh armor that is engraved. No not engraved, made of actual scales, you shiver at the thought of what could have scales that big, nothing from Earth that’s sure. To end her amazing outfit, her green with black lace boots are thigh highs. You can faintly smell leather and something sweet you’ve never smelled before. You’re pretty sure this woman could be a really good dominatrix if she wanted to.
“That was much easier than expected. If the Avengers are Earth’s best defenders I’m disappointed, to say the least.” The woman tells you looking at her nails in boredom. You pick out her British accent.
You realize you’re not in immediate danger and say, “While I don’t mind getting kidnapped by beautiful women I usually like to know their names first, maybe take me on a date before you bring me back to your place.”
The woman chuckles. “My name is Morgan Le Fay of Britain, the world’s strongest sorceress, Morgana. That is until you came along.”
You frown. “That’s a mouthful.”
Morgana shakes her head with a small smile. “Cute.”
“Look I’m not that powerful, I think you have the wrong person, most of the magic I use I can’t use for long because it gives me migraines.” You say while shifting around to get more comfortable.
You finally take in your surroundings. All you can assess is that you’re in a cave, no telling how far from New York City, home. You know Loki could track you down if you could astral project but you don’t trust Morgana enough to take your eyes off of her. Maybe Tony is tracking your cell phone which you feel sitting in your back pocket.
“Such a shame you’ll never discover your true potential. I’m here to kill you, child, but I had to get a taste of what runs through your blood before I do.” Morgana says kneeling in front of you.
Morgana brings a hand to your head and when she touches you she gasps and closes her eyes. You simply watch from under her hand as she shivers. When she pulls her hand away her eyes are bright with curiosity but far away in thought.
“Why would your mother want to kill someone so powerful, I would think having you on her side would be more preferable.” Morgana says under her breath. You only hear her because she’s so close to you.
“My mother sent you?” You say trying to stall now that you know her intentions.
Morgana hums.
“I know my mother doesn’t love me but I never thought she’d send a glorified assassin after me. I’m honored, honestly.” You say your fingers playing with the rope around your wrists seeing if you could escape somehow. “How does my mother know you anyways, she doesn’t have any powers why would she know a sorceress?”
Morgana frowns at you, “I like your humor in the face of death.” She quips with a hint of annoyance at your nonchalance of the situation, “When a celestial tells me to do something I tend to not question it.” You look at Morgana like she’s crazy then you watch as realization dawns on her face.
“My child...You truly do not know?”
You stop fiddling with the rope and look at Morgana with a raised eyebrow. “Know what? And I’m not a child.”
“Your true birth mother, celestial Madonna.” Morgana says ignoring your plea to be respected.
At this you freeze and lose all the breath in your lungs.
Thor was right, you’re adopted.
“It was prophesied that celestial Madonna would give birth to the most powerful being in the universe. Kang wanted to be father to such child and hunted her down. He impregnated her, held her captive until she birthed you. She fled when she had the chance but couldn’t take you with her.” Morgana explains while standing and pacing the cave’s floor. “Kang, who was being chased by the Avengers, planted you in an alternate universe and time. No one has known where you were until a few years ago when you used magic for the first time.” Morgana finishes, stopping and looking down at you.
She gives you a look of pity as you process everything. It all made sense now. Kang wants you to be his weapon of destruction. Why your parents have always hated you and treated you like shit.
“My mother wants me dead and sent you to do her dirty work...Meaning she’s alive somewhere?” You ask trying to not panic with the influx of information.
“She’s here on Earth until she knows you’re dead. Said you’re more of a liability than anything. I’m being paid handsomely for your head.” Morgana says. She then brings a hand up and flicks it. Dark green magic flows and through the smokey magic you see a quin jet then see flashes of Loki, Steve, Natasha, Tony, and Thor talking, concerned and frightened looks on their faces but hear nothing.
“Your friends are near.” Is all Morgana says like it’s an afterthought. She makes the magic disappear and looks at you with determination. “I have a proposition for you, child.”
You’re not really in the position to argue so you nod at her.
“Promise me you’ll hunt down Kang and right before you deliver the last strike on his miserable life you call on me and let me do it. While I love your mother dearly I have a penchant for revenge.”
“Fine.” You say. At this Morgana looks at you, sizing you up, but decides you’re harmless enough and makes the rope around your wrists and ankles disappear. When you stand she magics a gold ring with a square emerald on it and gives it to you.
“When the time comes throw this on the ground and stomp on it with your foot then stand back, I shall appear where the ring is.”
You nod and slip the ring onto your right ring finger finding that it fits perfectly.
“Do not use it for anything else, it is a one time use. If you use it for something trivial I will kill you without hesitation, our deal will be void.” Morgana says, she frowns and without asking places a hand on your head again. This time you feel her magic search your mind and gasp when she does something that makes you feel energetic and calm.
When Morgana pulls her hand away she explains, “Your powers were behind a barrier, I simply destroyed it. You should be able to wield magic without headaches now but you’re going to use your full power unless you learn how to tame it. Do not kill yourself or I’ll bring you back to life just to kill you again.”
You look at Morgana in disbelief and annoyance because she keeps threatening your life.
 She gives you a sympathetic look. “I’m truly sorry such a fate has fallen on you, child.” And then she’s gone and you’re left in a dark cave.
You hadn’t even realized Morgana had used magic to light up the space you both inhabited until you’re left standing in pitch black. Without hesitation you light up both fists with fire and start to make your way out of the cave. You plan to contact Loki when you truly know where you are. However, when you reach the entrance you see the quin jet landing in an open field not that far from the cave’s entrance on the side of a mountain. The first person out of the ship is Loki and he is sprinting towards you, Thor not far behind with Steve and Nat pulling the flank.
When Loki reaches you you open your mouth to tell him you’re ok but he pulls you into his chest hard and squeezes you till you’re breathless. Then he holds you at arms length and looks over your face first, then body.
“Are you hurt, did she use any magic on you?” He asks urgently.
“I’m fine, Loki, we just talked, she’s not a danger to us.” You say with a small smile that you’re sure doesn’t reach your eyes because Loki doesn’t lose the concerned look on his face. He doesn’t push it either though. Thor stays suspiciously silent when he reaches you both. He touches you as if to check that you’re real but drops his hand and claps Loki on the back more for calming him instead of camaraderie.
You look at Steve and Nat with a small wave and embarrassed grimace when Loki, Thor, and you reach them as you all walk towards the quin jet. After you’ve told them multiple times that you’re fine they all relax a bit but not by much. You mostly feel embarrassed you were taken so easily. You didn’t even put up a fight.
You’re sitting in the quin jet quiet other than to answer their questions without going into details because you’re still trying to unravel what you’ve been told.
“Why did she take you?” Steve asks, standing in front of you, arms crossed, with Nat next to him while Loki sits at your side, holding your hand. You know he has questions because his fingers keep playing with the new ring on your hand and he gives you looks you can’t decipher. Thor is speaking with Tony in the cockpit so you’re free of their questions until later thankfully.
“She wants me to find Kang so she may kill him.” You say.
Thankfully Loki and Thor had told the group of superheroes who Kang was after the incident with the Growing Man. They told them what they knew of the man which honestly wasn’t much.
At your words you feel Loki stop playing with the ring. He understands its purpose now. He must have used his magic to look over the ring and see if it was a danger to anyone but especially you, sensing it had magic dwelling in it.
“That doesn’t explain why she took you specifically. She could have told all of us. She didn’t have to kidnap you.” Natasha says knowing you enough to know you’re hiding valuable information.
You frown and look at your feet. “I-”
You go quiet and everyone stays quiet too, you listen to the engine of the quin jet and Thor and Tony bickering in the background. You think about how Loki’s hand fits perfectly in yours and is soft but has rough patches of callouses from his use of daggers. You take a deep breath in through your nose, closing your eyes, and smell leather, sweat, and that smell the quin jet emits like a new car.
When you open your eyes you look up at Steve and Natasha and ask, “How did you find me?”
Natasha frowns at your very obvious deflection. Steve answers. “Tony tracked your cell phone but it’s thanks to Loki we found you so fast. He used his magic to track your magic or something.” Steve says uncrossing his arms and shrugging while glancing at Loki.
You look at Loki who raises a brow at you. “Our bond.” Is all he says at your inquisitive look. You nod in understanding.
“Where are we, exactly?” You ask them.
“The border of New York and Pennsylvania.” Steve says. That explains why they were able to reach you so quick. If Morgana teleported you so close that means your stalling is the only reason you’re alive. She planned to make you a quick death.
When Nat opens her mouth to ask you another question you shake your head at her. “I’m exhausted can I take a nap before I tell you everything?” You ask, realizing you’ve got at least 45 minutes of free time since the jet isn’t going full speed.
Nat looks a little apologetic and Steve nods and says, “We’re happy you’re ok.” and then they both make their way to the opposite side of the quin jet.
You and Loki settle into the quin jet’s seats as comfortably as you can. He stays suspiciously quiet about everything but brings an arm up and around your shoulders and lets you lay your head on his shoulder where it meets his neck. When you’re settled he keeps holding your hand but his free hand around your shoulder comes up to stroke your hair. It doesn’t take long to fall asleep.
Books
The Road to Wigan Pier by George Orwell. First, I actually appreciated the foreward to the “Left Book Club” copy, even though it says that anyone who is not a member should disregard it. It gave an interesting rebuttal to parts of the book. That aside, I’m not totally sure what to make of the book. On the level of descriptive writing, I rarely find something this richly penned. But it’s loaded with concepts and lingo and even a monetary system I’m unfamiliar with, and that hampers my understanding of the points. I get the general gist, but all the finer points are very lost on me, simply because I’m an American millennial.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson. I’ve seen the “F*ck” series titles floating around here and there, and I’m intrigued by a couple of them. The idea of this one is that people give way too many f*cks about everything, and that you really need to pick where you give your f*cks in life and never give a f*ck about anything that doesn’t line up with your values (in a nutshell). It’s an easy and interesting read. It’s interesting to me that, in the wake of what I hear was many years of positive-mood and high self-esteem type self help books (most of which I’ve only heard of and never read, were they before my time?), we’re getting a backlash of “Yes, life sucks. Yes, life has pain. Dealing with pain and failure appropriately is a part of life. Accept that, or lose yourself to complete entitlement” type self-help books. I’m curious what this trend produces in people over time. I’d also like to highlight that this book has the best discussion of dividing “fault” and “responsibility” that I’ve ever read.
Shows
Loki. WHAT EVEN. WHAT EVEN. WHAT. WHAT THE. WHAT THE. FRESH… THE FRICK FRACK PADDYWHACK???!!!
Mushi-shi. So, turns out the first time I watched this I somehow started on Season 2, and my source cut out before the season end… no wonder I was pretty confused. So I started re-watching this and… I remember how incredibly unsettling this anime is. It’s equal parts gentle wonder and soft horror, a blend that is very difficult to describe unless you’ve seen it. Much like Mushi themselves, eh? I think I’ll balance this out by ending each watch session with an episode of Log Horizon rewatch. That’ll keep the emotional balance intact.
Claymore. I ended up dropping this one halfway through. It has an interesting concept, but the “things that bug me” points mounted pretty fast. In the early episodes, everything is so dark that it’s hard to see what’s going on. There’s a huge amount of monologuing and info-dumping IN monologue, and this goes on even mid-fight, and even CALMLY mid-fight. Yes, this isn’t the only anime that does this, but it decreases my enjoyment. It’s difficult to take the story seriously when the big bad yells, “Why can’t I defeat you?” to the weakest-but-somehow-also-the-strongest member of a team, and then have a colleague of the team member calmly explain to the big bad exactly why he’s unable to land a blow, then they take off his head together. This show has a lot of that sort of thing. I’ll read up on how the series ended, not interested in slogging through the other half.
Elfen Lied. This is a re-re-rewatch for me. I stumbled on this anime when I was newly inducted into anime-watching and, well... given that Princess Tutu was my very first anime, this one was a real shock to my system at first. By all accounts I should have dropped it and run screaming at the time, but I couldn’t. There was something about the sheer tragedy of the story that called to me. Plus it was VERY short. So I returned to it from time to time. Now that I’ve developed more of a feel for what I do and don’t like in a story, how does this hold up? The relationships are terrible, imo, and the whole thing about diclonius is never explained enough (and I still don't understand the ending) but it's STILL hard not to be pulled in by the sheer tragedy of the series.
Movies
300. I haven’t seen this movie since college. Is it weird how much I enjoyed it as a romp? Yes, there’s death and tragedy, but the dry humor and utter gung-ho-edness of it is infectious. It’s a good flick, I’m really glad I went back to see it. And I also finally understand Leonidas telling the traitor, “May you live forever.” Damn, man. No wonder he flinched.
Weathering With You. GORGEOUS. I need to see more by this animator… LIGHT. WATER. FOOD. I hear they’re calling this person the new Miyazaki? I CONCUR. And the story is sweet and beautiful and just yes. Yes. Oh, look, he made something else before this movie…
Your Name. Okay so I have mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand, fantastic story and, once again, gorgeous animation that all makes me want to track with this creator in the future. And the twist definitely socked me in the gut, I didn’t see it coming. On the other hand, I feel like this movie hits an extreme of “show, don’t tell” in a way that comes awfully close to a negative. I didn’t think that was possible, but this movie switches timelines, POV, points in time, etc, so rapidly that it becomes difficult to keep track of what’s going on, properly. I could not imagine watching this movie in theaters, it has to be watched with a remote in hand to pause, rewind, rewatch, discuss what the heck just happened. It’s like watching Mystery Skulls videos, with that level of rapid fire little details that are incredibly important to the plot, but for a feature length film. Also, after some discussion, I came to see (and agree) that there’s a foundational issue in the main relationship that doesn’t bode well for the future, as much as I rooted for them to be together. Still, it’s an incredible movie and I can see why it was the highest grossing movie for Japan a few years back.
Games
Diablo II. I’m really happy. I live in a house with my husband and his best friend, and in the past year or so we’ve begun playing games together. This is the sort of game I would never have gone to on my own because I actually need someone in the room who I can ask, “Hey, how do you assign attacks again?” or “Hey, is this piece of gear better than the piece I’m wearing?” I don’t like playing the number game on gear so much, but I let the two of them dress my character up and then I back them up in a fight and enjoy myself. Looting and exploring for treasure is probably my favorite aspect (says the person who plays Breath of the Wild just to forage for mushroom and herbs), although as a level 20 Amazon I’m now shooting out waves of 8 arrows at a time, and that’s pretty epic too. It’s a special kind of joy to find out you actually like a type of gaming as long as there’s people there who can explain things along the way and who don’t get annoyed at re-asked questions. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m having a blast playing Diablo II in a group. And as for the other game we play together as a group…
WoW Classic. I covered this before, but back then I was a lowly level 17 Dwarf Hunter. Now I’m a lowly level 36 Dwarf Hunter. With a mount! I have epic skills like explosion traps, poisonous shots, and multi-shot. My wolf has gained a ton more skills, too, and is (or so I’m told) a pretty effective off-tank. I have been told I am an effective DPS person, which makes me very happy. I really enjoy this kind of gaming, but specifically when I’m in the same room as the people I’m gaming with. Communication is a lot easier and we work really well as a team that way.
