Your quest makes you cross paths with a mysterious group that calls themselves the TVA. There, your mischievous prince can be found. But it comes with a heartbreaking revelation. He loves another.

A/N: Ah- the first fic I ever wrote for the big man himself- Loki! I realized I accidentally inspired this from Bizet's opera Carmen, minus the Punish The Woman ending and the cheating and sexism and antisemitism that can be prominent in the opera's plot, hence the title. I wrote it all the way in 2022 and realized I forgot to post it on Tumblr. For a while, it's been this one part because writer's block hit me early last year. I hope y'all like it and give it enough comments and kudos and responses so I can motivate myself to finish it. Send me good vibes to begin on part two! Enjoy!

I say that nothing frightens me, I say alas that I answer for myself, But no matter how brave I am, At the back of the yard, I’m dying of terror Alone, in this wild place Alone, I’m afraid, But I’m wrong to be afraid, You will give me courage, You will protect me, Lord. (English Translation) - Henri Meilhac, from Bizet's opera, Carmen.
It had been a week and there was no sign of him. No word. Nothing. His father couldn’t care less. He kept on ruling Asguard as if everything was normal. As if the only disturbance was a teapot being knocked over in the kitchen. Something simple and easily fixed and none of his business.
That was not the case for his brother or his mother.
Or most especially for you.
Thor had already gone. And there was no exact contact but whispers. People were dying. There was some grand scheme. Something about even the Tesseract and the Infinity Stones. About Midgard and then the Universe being taken over and at the center of it was your close friend and companion, the missing prince.
You sat alone that morning in the garden, watching the fountain burble. Feeling the bit of breeze and the chirp of birds. It all seemed so beautiful and peaceful. You didn’t know if it was to comfort you or if it was mocking you for your inner turbulence. If only you weren’t so worried so you could enjoy it. You were so lost in thought that a sweet, low voice pulled you out of your head.
“How long have you been here?”
Jumping, you turned and stood up, dipping into a curtsy.
“A while, your highness!” you answered.
Looking up, Queen Frigga smiled. And you smiled back.
“It’s your usual spot, I know. Every other child was training with weapons and swords, but you would run here, crying…”
“If you recall, I kept losing. And I was terrified of getting stabbed.”
“And after you had your cry you came back, and kept on…” she finished, she took a hand to smooth the top of your head lovingly.
Your muscles ached on cue from the memory. Yes, you lost often training on how to fight. Seeing the other warriors glide their swords with ease and grow up to be the pride of the kingdom. You preferred regular studies with reading and culture, history and knowledge, and science. Practice battles often had you thrown to the ground in defeat. But at least when it came to a fight, you returned.
“I had to finish it, that was school after all. It’s how I grew up…” you recalled.
She took a hand to dip into the cool water, tracing a pattern followed by the fish inside.
“You’re worried about…” she started.
“Loki, yes. Is he behind this invasion?” you questioned.
“I don’t doubt it. Loki’s been too angry, too jealous, and without a good outlet. All of his life he kept it inside of himself and now that it’s released, it’s piled up from the years of silence. He’s letting it all out at once…” she said.
“He’s…he’s going to get hurt…” you observed worriedly. Mentioning him in this place made it sadder.
You recalled the day years ago. You ran into the garden at this fountain and accidentally happened upon the dark-haired prince reading. You profusely apologized, saying that you were sneaking out of training. And Loki said that he could help you. Then you asked what he was reading. And such began this friendship between the two of you. He gave you tricks about how to fight and confessed that he enjoyed theatre. You told him what your favorite foods at the feast were.
The memories of you too exchanging books and chatting about them between your classes did not stop in your adulthood. They made you happy, and lately even happier. Thoughts of him switched to private, intimate fantasies as you were alone in your room at night.
Now that he was gone, all that was left was a bittersweet tinge in the air.
“He doesn’t hurt himself when you’re around him…” Frigga commented.
“Excuse me?”
“You’re his friend…so save him. Take him off the ledge, find him…”
“But..but I thought Thor would find him!” you argued, standing up. Remembering your manners, you returned to sitting. This could be seen as an insult to the queen, but her arm dismissed the gesture.
She was different from her husband.
“He won’t listen to Thor. Loki’s always been jealous of him, there will be too much of a fight, too much scuffling. And me, I’m his mother but you…you’re his friend. I’ve seen it. He’s too jealous of Thor. He’s mad at his father, mad at me but……you’re different. You might be able to help him. Talk him out of it…” she instructed.
She put a hand on your shoulder, leaning forward, her eyes big and a little watery.
“Y/N, I charge you, as a queen…as a mother…find Loki, find my son…and bring him back…”
You touched the hand and looked up at her.
“If my queen commands, I will” you replied dutifully.
Although a secret part of you was relieved, thrilled. Not just for an adventure. But to find him.
The queen prepared you for your quest well. There was a special sword and a dagger just in case. You couldn’t use magic yourself, but you knew that you had some strength, and being Asgardian, whatever diseases you encountered would not bother you. As you gathered, with some slight armor over your clothes and bags with an extra set of clothes and rations that would satiate you until you found something more, she did something surprising.
On the hour of your departure, the queen gifted you with a beautiful sword- the hilt was bejeweled but all sides of it were still sharp to cut a foe to ribbons. You placed it in a sheath in a belt tied tight around your waist. She gathered your face in her hands and kissed her forehead.
“Thank you…”
“To tell you frankly, I wanted to…wanted to go…go see him…” you confessed.
She blinked and then smiled. No doubt she could tell you felt warmer mentioning that.
“Really?”
“I miss Loki…I miss him more than anything…” you confessed.
She smiled. “I miss him too.”
From under her long sleeve, she gave you a necklace. Nothing but a small string with a glowing blue crystal on it.
“This will take you anywhere on Midgard. But ask for Thor. If you find Thor, you might find him. Ask if there’s any trouble…that is his specialty," Frigga said.
“I promise…I will be back here with him alive and unharmed!" you vowed.
Clutching the necklace, you touched each other’s hands as a last goodbye.
The necklace glowed.
“Take me to Midgard, please," you guided it.
There was a flash of light. You felt a little heavy for a second. It was as if you were falling, but very still. When the light vanished, you saw that you had landed on a field. The wind blew through the grass as it bowed in return. A big red farmhouse stood quietly. An old man in his rocking chair stood up and squinted at you in surprise, hands on his hips.
Midgard was a large place. It was time to start looking.
─── ・ 。゚☆: .☽ . :☆゚. ───
“He took the Tesseract and vanished” Thor explained.
“He did WHAT?” you shouted.
You could hardly believe the words coming through your ears. All those weeks. Searcing everything. The country took forever to get through. Eating grits, checking the news, and finding ways to get to New York City, the most likely place he would attack…and he had vanished.
“But I…I…where could he have gone?” you asked.
Thor shrugged “If I knew, I would have told you, Y/N…”
You wanted to kick something, to punch a wall. But you just leaned over the desk, your hands flat on it, and sighed deeply.
For a day, you let yourself sulk in the guest room. All of that traveling had wiped you out. You were so done. There were blisters on your feet and you could feel the grime from your smell. You spent your day bathing, wondering what on earth you could do now.
New York City was large, still reeling from its recent attack. But all in all, people seemed fine. Not too many casualties. Not zero, but not eighty. Wandering around the city, you wore a large hoodie and pants to cover your Asgardian traveling clothes. There were so many people, sights, and smells, it was dizzying.
Stomach gurgling, you wandered around. Midguardian food did not completely satiate you the way food back home did, but it was better than nothing. And it was a while since you ate, anyway.
Stopping inside, the doorbell rang. You ordered your food, chewing absent-mindedly on the crackers served right before. The wrappers crackled as you tossed them over your shoulder.
It sounded like a song back home. A song they did for dances. Once you go to a party together. Loki disliked social gatherings and preferred to hide away. You managed to talk him into coming down. Talking to one person. Trying the wine. Dancing. Saving one dance for you. He found he liked it. And he was enjoying himself, getting into little fights, laughing, flirting…
The flirting. There was a pretty red-haired boy, a woman with blonde hair, and even another person he kept flirting with that night. It must have been another heir to the throne trying to set a match that night. Even though in hindsight those matches never resulted in a betrothal, the images in your head made you want to vomit. Seeing him made you…it made your stomach turn. You tried to go to sleep that night, but your brain kept racing. Reviewing everything. It meant nothing, right? That words-he was being friendly!? Those phrases weren’t in any way romantic…right? Besides, he was just your friend! Nothing more…
. Ordering their food and drink for the first time for something new. Anything to get your brain off of your search for the misbehaving prince and your past. But it haunted you for a week. You barely spoke with him and buried yourself in school and training. But every morning, you woke up early with those thoughts, that memory still burned in your brain.
“Hey, watch it, dumbass!” someone yelled. It brought you out with a jump.
Getting out, you didn’t notice a person. Slamming into them, they fell right on the floor in their nice suit, their tray of food flipping in the air.
“My lunch! How could you?” he screamed.
“I’m so sorry!" you apologized. "I can pay you!"
"Forget it! Leave me alone!" he fumed.
You turn around to focus back on your food. But your ears could still hear his nasal, tenor voice.
“Look at that mess!” he complained from behind you. “She might as well be another damn Loki…”
Your sandwich froze in midair and you set it down in shock. Your stomach twisted in knots. The words were still forming in your brain. What…no…surely, they can’t mean…
But as you kept your ears peeled back, it occurred to you…they were. They meant it. They were talking…talking about him-him! You finished your food quickly, quietly. Then you got up and followed them through.
They went to an alleyway. Nothing but trash cans and tall brick walls. Children in the distance laughed as they played and cars honked their horns in frustration in the streets a few feet away. Unaware
All you had to do was create a distraction. Digging into your pockets, you pulled out a tiny ball. A favorite of the younger prince when you were children. Briefly, you smiled at the toy. In your adolescence, both of you would try throwing them in hallways to see which maidservant it would spook. It was harmless and would make them jump and squeal and you both would guffaw with laughter.
Looking over, you timed it carefully. The agents in their suits pressed buttons on a device and a portal opened in the brick wall. It was the size of a New York bagel when you tossed the ball- it hit the wall and exploded in a flurry of pink fireworks. The agents turned their heads, jumping when you ran fastly as you could, and jumped into the portal.
You would see him. Him! Him! And soon! At last- you could have cried as blues and yellows flashed through your eyes. You were falling through universes. And perhaps, your heart would be at peace, and you would tell this wayward prince the truth. How you felt. How your body ached for the brush of his fingers against your hand. How you worried for his safety. Despite his many flaws, if he was a poisonous well, you would still drink it. You would find Loki, bring him home, and tell him that you loved him more than life itself.
─── ・ 。゚☆: .☽ . :☆゚. ───
When the bright colors faded, all that was were tans. Earth tones. Browns, greys, tans, and whites but all dirtied and plain. This was far from the magnificent palace and beautiful landscape you secretly hoped for. It looked like an average Midguardian office. Except the surreal posters. But at least it seemed to be benign. There were no weaponed guards. As you walked forward, you saw that desks were pushed aside, mugs with coffee stains long since used and stinking from not being washed, and in the distance, there was old music playing and a ticking grandfather clock.
You stepped forward shyly. Just because it looked harmless didn’t mean there was a trap lurking somewhere.
“Well, I’ll be damned, Asgard fashion!” a voice from behind you cried.
Twirling around, you got out your sword. So far, you were lucky to not use it. But that time was now over. You pointed it right into the face of a man in a suit with grey hair and a mustache. He held up his hands in peace and you released them.
His mouth opened into a smile as he glanced over you, eyes trailing down from your hairstyle to your boots.
“Wait, is that…that can’t be! I think I recognize you! Are you Y/F/N??” he asked.
He walked up to you slowly as if you were a predator released from a zoo.
“I am she. Sir, do you know of Loki Laufreyson, Prince of Asguard and God of Mischief? I’m looking for him…” you asked desperately.
The man nodded.
“Like the back of my hand. He’s trying to disband the TVA right now…”
You put your sword back in your hilt.
“I don’t care about the TVA, I care about him…I need to…I need to make sure he’s okay. I need to take him back home, back somewhere safe! I’ve been on this journey forever all for him! I need him! I mean…I need him to go back to his mother!” you explained.
He stuffed his hands in his pockets. You caught your breath waiting for his answer. But he said something else.
“Oh, Y/N, you poor thing….” he sighed.
“Oh gods, is he dead?” you asked.
“Probably not…or not yet…but…”
“But what…”
“I didn’t know he had…the clips showed you both together, but there was no wedding…”
“Clips? What do you mean? I don’t know what you speak of…but that doesn’t matter- where is Loki? Don’t play games! I beg of you- take me to where he is!” you cried, ready to grab the man by his collar.
His eyes went soft. You felt suddenly vulnerable.
“Do you love him?” he asked.
Bullets striking your chest would have shocked you less. An electric rush ran through you. You found yourself looking away and feeling suddenly warmer than what was comfortable.
“Love…define love…” you said.
“I can tell, you have…feelings. Not platonic, romantic ones. You have the hots, a crush for this god. That is how we are defining love right now! Do you love him?”
There was silence. The song stopped playing on the speaker and skipped to a trio of women singing about birds.
You felt as if this was a monster to fight. But not a literal one. And you were taught to be brave no matter what.
“I…I do! Now tell me where he is…” you answered plainly.
“I…I know where he is. Call it the end of the Universe and I know a way to get there but…Y/N…I need to prepare you…” he said with a deep sigh.
He walked up and put a heavy hand on your shoulder. His lips curled as if getting ready to spit out a poison he did not want to inflict on you.
“What is your name, sir?” you asked.
“Call me Mobius,” he answered.
You shook your head.
“What could possibly upset me, Mobius? He’s alive and not injured, I have reason to rejoice why would you say that? Loki is alive and once I find him, I will tell him how I feel and-”
“Y/N, he’s there with a woman he’s fallen in love with…”
It hits you like a rock. No. No no no no-no. You began shaking. The world went dizzy except for him. You began to sit down to ground yourself.
“Wha…he’s in love with someone else?”
Mobius nodded.
In spite of your warrior education, you sat down on a chair and burst into exhausted, heartbroken sobs as Mobius watched. Hand still on your shoulder empathetically.
“That’s not even the strangest part about it…” Mobius added on.

"Heimdall! Open the Bifrost!" Thor demands. As soon as you land on the ground, Thor turns to his friends with a worried look. "He would open it if he could. I fear the worst."
"Then we're trapped here forever."
"Not necessarily," you state. You raise your right arm and a blast of blue power stems from your core and is ejected from your hand. A blue mystical cloud hovers ten feet in front of you. "A portal to Asgard. The Observatory."
"This is where we part," Thor says to Jane.
"Will I ever see you again?"
"I hope so."
Thor pulls Jane closer to him and kisses her as if this is the last time he is going to see her. You give them five seconds of a moment before you pull Thor away.
"Okay, that's sweet but we need to go. You'll see her later."
You push Thor through the portal and jump through yourself, the four warriors going through after you. The portal closes once everyone comes through, and you look around the golden Observatory. Heimdall is slumped over the controls as he is wounded.
"Get him to the healing room! Leave my brother to me. Y/N, I'd like it if you came with me."
"Yeah. I have some words for your brother as well."
You and Thor take off flying toward the golden castle in a hurry, and you two bust into the infirmary where Odin lies. He isn't dead, just... sleeping? Thor seems relieved that his father isn't dead, and his mother seems very happy to see him. Loki is holding Gungnir and there are two dead Jotuns on the floor.
"Thor! I knew you'd return to us!"
Frigga hugs her eldest son but his eyes are trained on Loki's. The younger brother looks at you, and for a moment--a split second--you see a longing pain in his eyes.
"Why don't you tell her about how you sent the Destroyer to kill our friends? To kill me?"
"What?" Frigga gasps and looks at Loki.
"It must have been enforcing Father's last command."
"You're a talented liar, brother. Always have been."
"It's good to have you back," Loki smiles but turns serious. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to destroy Jotunheim."
Loki points Gungnir at Thor and fires, sending him flying out of the castle. He points Gungnir at you before doing the same. It takes you a few seconds to regain your composure before you stop yourself from falling. You fly down to Thor to make sure he's okay before helping him up.
"We have to stop him."
"Way ahead of you."
You and Thor follow Loki to the Observatory only to see the Bifrost open and pointed right at Jotunheim. Loki has used the Casket of Winters to freeze the sword in the machine so that no one can remove it. If no one can remove it, then the Bifrost will stay open and destroy Jotunheim.
"You can't stop it. The Bifrost will build until it rips Jotunheim apart."
"You wanna bet?" you ask.
The sword is encased in ice, and you control water. You begin to melt the ice so that the sword may be free but Loki isn't having any of it. He points Gungnir at you and fires, and you get blasted back several hundred yards out of the Observatory. Thor raises his hammer to try and break the ice when Loki fires upon him as well. Thor lands right next to you with a pained grunt, and he looks at his brother heartbreakingly.
"Why have you done this?"
"To prove to Father that I am the worthy son. When he wakes, I will have saved his life. I will have destroyed that race of monsters. I will be the true heir to the throne!"
"You can't kill an entire race!"
"Why not? What is this newfound love for the Frost Giants? You, who would have killed them all with your bare hands?"
You and Thor get up and face Loki.
"I've changed."
"So have I." Loki hits Thor across the face with Gungnir, leaving behind a red mark. "Fight me." Loki hits Thor again and sends him flying back even further. "I never wanted the throne. I only wanted to be your equal!"
"I will not fight you, brother!" Thor shouts and gets up.
"I am not your brother. I never was."
"Loki, this is madness."
"Is it?" Loki is shaking with rage but his eyes hold so much pain. "Is it?!" Tears form in his eyes that break your heart to see. "Is it? What happened to you on earth that turned you so soft? Don't tell me it was a woman!" Loki laughs when he realizes he is right. "It was. Perhaps when we're finished here I'll pay her a little visit myself!"
That did it. Thor uses his hammer to fly at Loki so they go crashing back into the Observatory. Loki has years of pent-up rage and jealousy with Thor having no choice but to defend himself. Loki fires Gungnir, sending Thor sliding across the floor and knocking Mjolnir from his hand. Just as Thor picks up his hammer, Loki flies at his brother and crashes through the Observatory dome. They both stumble, Loki a bit more than his brother. Loki falls over the edge and hangs on for dear life.
"Loki!" you gasp and run over to him.
"Thor! Y/N! Help me!" You and Thor look over the edge to see Loki dangling. "Brother, please." when Thor doesn't answer, he turns his gaze to you. "Y/N, please."
It's the way he is soft-spoken that is pulling at your heartstrings. You reach down to help him up when he disappears in a shimmer of green. The real Loki materializes right behind you and shoves Gungnir right through your abdomen. You gasp at the pain and look at Loki with hurtful eyes. Throw shoves his brother off you only to receive the same treatment. Loki uses his magic to create clones of himself all around you so it's hard to determine who is the right one. Thor raises his hammer and summons lighting to strike every single Loki, including the original one.
The younger brother goes flying back, losing his grip on Gungnir. Thor staggers over to Loki and places Mjolnir on his chest so that he won't be able to get up. You lift your shirt to see your wound already closed. All that's left is the blood on your skin where the wound once was. Loki yells out in anger and tries to lift Mjolnir but can't. Thor looks at the Bifrost desperately as he tries to figure out a way to close it.
He staggers closer to the Observatory but the power of the Bifrost is what's keeping him from entering. You walk over to Loki and kneel next to him so that he's forced to look at you. You reach out and touch his cheeks delicately with the back of your fingers.
"You stole my life from me." It's the only explanation as to why you're getting these memories now. It's why you didn't remember it before. "You took my memories and hid them away. Why? The man I knew is not the man I see now. Don't you remember what I told you before? 'Life isn't worth living if you're going to spend yours in jealousy for your brother. It's not good to live in resentment. You're too good for them.' Do you not remember that?"
Loki stares at you with tears in his eyes. He does remember. Your words, everything you said to him in that year, have been on a constant loop in his mind.
"I happen to think you're the better brother, anyway," you whisper. "I'm sorry I didn't come back for you."
If Loki could push you away, he would. You get up and put some distance between you and the younger brother. Without you in his face, he forces down his feelings for you so he can focus on his brother who is still trying to get into the Observatory.
"Look at you, the Mighty Thor. With all your strength, what good does it do you now? You hear me, brother?! There's nothing you can do!"
Thor knows Loki's right. He's powerless to stop what's happening. He looks down at the Bridge beneath his feet, vibrating from the force and speed of the Bifrost energy feeding into the Observatory. Thor looks at his hammer in thought. He hates it but he knows what he has to do, what he must sacrifice. Thor extends his hand towards Loki, summoning Mjolnir. The hammer goes flying into his grasp, leaving Loki confused.
With all of his strength, he slams Mjolnir right onto the rainbow bridge, cracking it immensely. Thor is going to break off the bridge and strand you here if you don't stop him.
"Stop! What are you doing?!" Loki gasps and gets to his feet.
"Thor! Stop!" you yell.
Thor lifts the hammer again and brings it down harder. The crack grows bigger and more deadly. With a couple of more hits, this bridge will crack for good.
"If you destroy the Bridge, you'll never see her again!" Loki yells.
Thor raises his hand to slam Mjolnir down again with a pained look on his face. Loki grabs Gungnir and runs toward him to stop him, but Thor delivers the final blow that shatters the bridge to pieces. Rainbow energy explodes from the impact, sending you, Thor, and Loki back several hundred yards away. A wave of destruction moves forward along the Bridge towards the Observatory, breaking it apart as it goes.
The Observatory breaks off into pieces and rips itself apart. Thor and Loki fall off the edge of the rainbow bridge while you land right in the middle of it. Before the brothers can fall to their deaths, Odin suddenly appears holding Gungnir. Thor grabs onto one end while Loki grabs onto the other. You groan and sit up only to see Odin with both his son's lives in his hands.
Loki searches his father's face for some kind of approval, some kind of redemption, but all he sees is disappointment and regret.
"I could have done it, Father! I could have done it! For you! For all of us!"
"No, Loki."
Loki sees this as rejection and has already decided his fate. You crawl over to the edge of the bridge in time to see Loki let go of Gungnir.
"No!!" Thor yells emotionally.
All three of you watch Loki fall into the rushing torrent of Bifrost energy. It carries him away, along with the debris of the Bridge and the Observatory, disappearing out of sight. Seeing him fall brings you back to when you saw Bucky fall. The memory of losing two men you loved is too painful to watch, so you pull away tearfully.
Asgard deals with death in a different way. Instead of mourning, they celebrate life. The royal family holds a feast in Loki's honor but you're too heartbroken to eat. Everyone is surrounding the table laughing and having a good time while you're off to the side trying not to cry. Frigga looks up when Thor passes by her, and she notices you in the corner by yourself. She grabs a snack before heading over to you.
"Fancy something to eat?" she offers the food.
"No, thank you. I am so sorry for your loss."
"I am sorry for yours."
You look into her eyes with tears in yours.
"Do you remember life after the battle? When I was here? I'm still having trouble remembering the entirety."
"Yes. After Markus had left, you were lost and broken. We all knew he would come back for you eventually, but Loki took a liking to you. I found it very difficult to break you two apart."
Two tears fall from your eyes at her words.
"Why did he take my memories?"
"That I don't know the answer to."
"I loved your son."
"I know you did. From what I saw, he loved you, too."
You lower your head and silently cry. The wound from losing Bucky has reopened, this time for Loki. Everything you felt for Bucky, you felt for Loki. Two men on different sides of the same coin. Two men who you've loved passionately and without selfishness.
"I need to get home. There must be a way off this planet without the use of the Bifrost."
"There is. Loki is always coming and going through secret entrances. I'm afraid, only he knows where they are. If you look closely, you'll be able to find them."
If Loki found a way out, then so can you. The only person who might know where those hidden spots are is Heimdall who is still posted at the end of the rainbow bridge. You leave the party and take your time walking down the long rainbow bridge. You're in deep thought that you don't hear something ringing from your pocket.
The pager you gave to Phil seems to be working because he's trying to get ahold of you now. It's one-way only so you can't talk to him. However, there is a screen where he can type a message. The message is short and simple, just enough to get the point across.
TESSERACT ON EARTH.
You're not sure what the situation is, but if they found the Tesseract then they're in big trouble. You have to get off this planet now. You jog the rest of the way to Heimdall who knows you're coming.
"Hi," you say and stand beside him. "Without the Observatory, it's pretty empty. Can I ask you a question?"
"Of course."
"Loki is always coming and going from this place without the use of the Bifrost. I need to get home. Do you know where I can go?"
"There are entrances hidden all over this place. Most are hidden even from my eyes which is why Loki was able to come and go without me seeing him. However, I do know they come from the mountains. I'm afraid that's all the information I can give you."
"Okay. Thank you." You turn to leave when you pause. "One more question. Can you see Xenia?"
"Yes."
"How is it doing?"
You haven't been back home in centuries. You kind of miss home if you're being honest.
"The planet is happy. Everything is in working order. All the toxic energy has been long gone. I can safely assume you're the only survivor of that tragic time."
"So, there's no need to try and go back there?"
"There's no need to bring up the past."
"Is Markus still alive?"
If he knows about your planet, then he knows about what Markus did to you.
"There are limitations to what I can see. With the right power, people can hide from me. When I tell you I can't see him, it's either because he's dead or he's hiding from me."
At least you have somewhat of an answer. It's time to get the hell off this planet and back to Earth, your real home.

Once Upon a Dream - Loki x Reader [Chapter 4]
Warnings: angst, fighting, blood, gore, character death (not really but also kind of yes?) vulgar language, amnesia  Word Count: 8K Chapter summary: You need to guard the tesseract and make sure the portal stays open - even if it means fighting Thor. Unexpected events lead to a tragic situation that only a miracle can fix. Loki seems to have a heart wrenching solution for that. Author’s Note: I’m sorry for being so slow with updates. I’ll try to grab myself from the neck now 🥺 Once again, I’m not following canon 100% so forgive me for the differences. Listen to: OUAD playlist on Spotify

THIRD POV
[CH 4 I Dreamed A Dream]
~   But there are dreams that cannot be And there are storms we cannot weather   ~
“I won’t let you stop him, Thor.”
“And I can’t let you help him.”
“So be it,” Y/N was disappointed that even Loki’s own brother couldn’t understand. She was ready to fight.
The sword felt light in her hand although it had been a while since she had last picked it up. Without wasting more time, she ran toward Thor who seemed to be waiting for her. She didn’t have time to mope around.
Just as she raised the blade dangerously, Thor shielded himself with his hammer. To his surprise, the impact of her sword was much stronger than he had anticipated and he had to brace himself harder. Even with the power of the Mjolnir against her sword, he struggled to push her off him.
“Why do you look so surprised?” Y/N asked him through gritted teeth, finding encouragement in the look of disbelief on Thor’s face. She poured power from her soul and into the sword, making it more effective the longer they stood like that.
“Just getting started, that’s all,” He brushed the look off his face and replaced it with a grin. Surprisingly, he used his legs to kick at her, forcing her to step back. As she attempted to strike him with the sharp sword, Thor threw the Mjolnir right at it. Both weapons flew off into the distance and Thor ran toward Y/N.
She didn’t have time to pick up her sword as she prepared for Thor’s tackle. As he wrapped his arms around her waist, she jumped and clung to his back tightly. Thor hadn’t expected her to jump, so when she kneed him in the chest, his grip loosened. It was the perfect distraction for her to kick herself off his body and let him stumble forward.
They turned around to face each other once more. This time, Thor was closer to the balcony and he stood between Y/N and her sword. The Mjolnir returned to his hand smoothly, leaving Y/N unarmed. But not for long.
Thor held onto Mjolnir a little tighter as if to show her that she couldn’t stop him. If she tried, she’d have to face the hammer.
Y/N wasn’t afraid of Thor or his hammer. She was so overwhelmed with power that she could feel it all over her skin, like electricity. It was warm and difficult to contain for much longer. The magic within her was practically begging to be released. Adrenaline was rushing through her body as well and she could feel the blood boiling in her veins. Nothing could stop her now.
The two of them eyed each other so intensely, both ready to attack if the other moved. Y/N was trying to think of a way to go past him so she could guard the tesseract. Thor was willing to do anything to stop her so they could put an end to the madness around them.
Time felt like it was frozen when they were face to face. By now, Y/N allowed her power to grow around her hands. The energy around them absorbed into the orbs in her hands and grew quickly, casting a glow in the apartment. Holding onto so much power made Y/N confident.
Thor watched how her power grew and he knew he had to stop her. He remembered how she had defeated dozens of enemies with one blow when she let her powers get the best of her.
Quickly, he swung his hammer and threw it at her, hoping to pin her down in time.
A smirk plastered her face as she had expected that. Thor could be so predictable. Smoothly, she used her power to hoist herself up in the air, allowing the hammer to continue past her and into the wall, smashing it in its way. As she had the upper hand, she released the blasts at Thor’s both sides so he couldn’t dodge it.
Thor leapt forward on the floor to avoid the merciless blasts that were ought to swallow him whole. Just as he landed on the floor, he felt the heel of Y/N’s foot on his hand and she stepped on it. Thor grunted out in pain as he failed to free his hand - and to summon Mjolnir with that hand. She stepped on his hand with all her strength and it made Thor cringe with discomfort.
“You’re in my way,” Y/N spat coldly, looking down at Thor who was struggling. Magic was growing around her hands once more, creating a cloud of green.
Thor didn’t like the sight of her with that much power. The look on her face was intimidating. Thor had seen in a few times before in his life and nothing good ever followed from it. This was a woman who was ready to do anything for her freedom and to aid Loki on his journey too.
She was so close that he could feel the heat radiating from her and it was painful. He reached out to Mjolnir with his other hand and hoped it would reach his palm in time.
“If I go, you go,” Thor let her know mysteriously.
Just as she released her power and directed it at him, she felt something hit her ankle hard and painfully. Mjolnir!
Thor didn’t have time to get out of the way and had to take the blow against his back. Her powers were torturous, even through his armour. The floor beneath them crushed and Y/N lost her balance, falling down the hole with Thor. They plummeted down several floors until finally, one of the levels managed to brace their fall.
Y/N hit the floor harshly and rolled over a few times. The moment she stopped rolling, she forced herself back on her feet and she ignored the pain of the impact. Taking in her surroundings, she noticed that they were on an office floor. All the people who would’ve usually been there working were now gone. Thor was nowhere to be seen.
“Fuck,” She cursed quietly and narrowed her eyes, scanning her surroundings and prepared herself for a surprise attack. The hole in the ceiling was still cracking up, but it was so small that it wouldn’t do much more damage. Small bits and pieces fell out of it in a dust cloud.
Despite the Chitauri army wreaking havoc outside, it was oddly quiet in the Stark tower. So quiet in fact that she could hear her own heartbeat drumming in her chest.
In order to be as silent as she could, Y/N used her powers to levitate just above the floor and move forward without making a single sound. Thor couldn’t have gotten far.
As she turned around a corner to look beyond the rows and rows of office desks, she still couldn’t see him which was odd. Thor didn’t seem like the type of enemy who hid and plotted his next attack. He seemed more like the direct action kind of guy.
That’s when a thought struck her mind. Had he flown back up to the highest level to destroy the portal?
Annoyed that she had wasted time looking for him down there, she groaned and returned to the hole in the ceiling. She collected more energy for a few brief seconds and then flew right back up again, landing smoothly on the ground as she reached the correct level. Just as she had thought, she saw Thor on the balcony trying to talk to the doctor who was working on the portal.
His cowardliness was infuriating.
On her way to the balcony, she picked up her sword. It was still charged with energy, and Thor hadn’t looked over his shoulder yet to see her. He probably expected her to be down there looking for him for just a bit longer. He was wrong.
It was all a surprise to Thor when she leapt at him and swung her sword against his armour. Thor stumbled forward, but he had remained unharmed but it was only a matter of time before the blade would pierce the Asgardian armour. He turned around and pushed the sword off of him with his hammer. Seeing Y/N right behind him that cold look in her eyes sent shivers down his spine.
They were standing outside now and the edge of the balcony was awfully close. Erik Selvig had returned to his station and he seemed unbothered by the two of them. He was only focused on the tesseract and keeping the portal open.
“Clever trick,” Y/N admitted, “but I’m no fool.”
“ I should’ve expected so much from someone of your kind,” Thor realized now. Any ally of Loki’s was just as slippery as the Trickster himself.
Y/N walked closer to him and Thor took a step back. She remained cautious because he could just as easily throw her off the edge as she could do that to him.
“You can still stop this-”
“Never!”
Thor was disappointed to hear her answer. If the circumstances were different, he would’ve been happy to see how committed she was. But he couldn’t allow things to progress. He had sworn to protect this realm, even from her and Loki. If he failed today, he would fail himself, his father and all of Asgard.
“How can you trust Loki?” Thor wondered. “He is the god of lies and tricks, Y/N. There is no guarantee that his bargain with you will uphold once all of this is over.”
“You don’t get it, Thor!” Y/N growled angrily. She almost laughed at his attempt of winning her over. “What Loki and I have goes deeper than mere words.”
As she spoke, Thor tried to come up with a plan to defeat her. He glanced to her side, looking at the sturdy wall to see if he could leap at her and use it for support, but she caught the movement of his eye just in time.
As Thor lunged at her once again, she met his attack with her sword. Thor nearly ran straight into the tip of the blade, but he stopped. It gave her a chance to swing it at him, forcing Thor to take a step back and hit the wall. With one swift move, she pointed it at his throat, making Thor tilt his jaw up to avoid injuries. He tried to move his hammer, but she pushed the sword tighter against him, almost breaking his skin.
“Don’t even think about it!” Y/N warned him against using the hammer.
Thor was trapped.
It would’ve been easy to push it further, but Y/N’s muscles felt like stone. Her hands were trembling as she held her sword that was pressing against Thor’s neck. One wrong move and he would suffer greatly.
“I know there’s still good in you,” Thor dared to say. If she was evil, she would’ve taken advantage of their position by now.
“I never said I’m evil, Thor. We’re just two ends of the same coin,” She knew that comparing him to her would infuriate him. There was little he could do as he stood here.
She didn’t want to kill him. Her heart said no to that wile act. Instead, she would trap him with her magic. With one hand, she kept the sword in place as she used her magic to glue Thor against the wall. The glowing material surrounded Thor’s limbs and it grew brighter and brighter.
Thor was panicking now. He didn’t want to be trapped by her magic, but he couldn’t do much without risking great injuries. After pondering his choices for a while, Thor tried to move only to learn that he couldn’t. The brightness died down and when he looked at his arms and legs, he saw that they were chained.
Y/N pulled her sword away and stepped back, looking at her creation in awe. Thor was truly tied down now.
“I hope it’s comfortable,” She smiled a little bit and tightened the chains without even touching them, forcing Thor to lose his grip on Mjolnir. It fell down on the floor right next to him. He looked helpless as he struggled against the chains. Thor seemed like a lost child when he realized he wasn’t winning the fight. “You’re going to be like that for a while.”
“Are you too afraid to fight me?” Thor wondered, trying to rile her up so she would lose focus on the chains and he could break free. After all, keeping up the magical bounds would drain her of energy sooner or later. If she had used real chains and charged them with power, it would’ve been easier, but she hadn’t had a better option.
She put on a thoughtful look and leaned against the wall next to him just to mock the god of thunder, “I think I already did.”
Thor looked around him desperately. The Chitauri were destroying everything in their way and he knew that the people were terrified. The portal was a fierce eyesore in the sky and it didn’t seem to stop spitting out enemies. For a moment, he felt truly defeated. He wondered if creating thunder and blasting her with lightning could help. Could he do that without holding his hammer?
All seemed to go according to Y/N’s plan until an arrow appeared out of nowhere. Clint had seen them from a distance and he hadn’t hesitated to shoot at Y/N in order to help Thor out.
Y/N had been so focused on Thor that she didn’t have time to react. The arrow pierced her through her abdomen and she could feel it hit the wall behind her through her skin.The shock of it all was enough to break the spell and the chains that held Thor down cracked into bits and pieces. It snapped in several links and then just vanished into thin air.
Just like that, Thor was free again.
Y/N looked down at the arrow that was sticking out of her stomach and the sight made her sick. She dropped her sword and immediately put her hands around the wound, feeling hot blood pooling around it and through her fingers.
“Oh no,” She breathed out in pain. Right now, it hurt more in her soul rather than it did physically. Adrenaline numbed her to a point where she didn’t have to experience the raw pain of it all - yet.
Thor was genuinely worried for her, although it had been of great help. Now that he was free and she was injured, he could shut the portal. But first, he needed to help her. Despite it all, Y/N was Asgardian. He knew that now and he couldn’t let her suffer. If he did, Loki would lose it and Thor didn’t want Loki to find hidden strength in a moment of despair. It was odd how people found strength they didn’t know they had until they truly needed it.
“Sit down,” He tried to help her.
“No! Y/N refused to let him help her. Thor’s mistake was that he assumed the blow had weakened her. For the moment he had tried to reach out for her, she used all her strength to create strong energy blasts. She aimed them at Thor and sent him flying right off the edge of the balcony.
Thor yelled out in surprise and fell out of her sight. Moments later, the hammer was summoned by him but Y/N didn’t see or hear him anymore.
As she was all alone, the reality of the situation weighed down on her. There was an arrow pointing out of her stomach and it had possibly pierced some vital parts of her. She knew she couldn’t run around with it inside of her, but she also knew that if she was to pull it out, she would bleed out.
Somehow hers shaking legs carried her inside to safety. She collapsed on the floor and finally, the pain got to her. It burned agonizingly and every time she moved even in the slightest, it grew worse. Y/N forced herself to sit on the floor and she leaned against the back of the sofa. She could still watch the balcony from there and whoever walked inside from the other entrances wouldn’t even see her. So for now, she had no choice but to stay there.
“Ah shit,” She cursed when she ripped her clothes around the arrow to see it better. The surrounding skin was tender to touch and blood was dripping out of it. Had it pierced her back? It had felt like it, but Y/N couldn’t be sure and she wasn’t keen on finding out either. Instead, she closed her eyes for a moment and attempted to heal herself. Could any amount of magic truly heal that? One thing was for sure, she had to try.
As she sat there, a smile curled up her lips. Out of all her enemies, Hawkeye had managed to harm her. It was almost comedic to her - if it wasn’t for the fact that she was in serious danger.
“Oh Loki, I hope you’re doing better than me,” She thought out loud.
Where was Loki when she needed him the most?
                      A nearby explosion followed by glass smashing burst Y/N’s bubble of thoughts. How long had she been healing herself? Her eyes felt weary and she had lost track of time. As she looked around, she saw Loki rolling over on the balcony. The sight of him was a surprise and for a moment, she was relieved to see him.
Unfortunately, the relief didn’t last long because the next person to join the party was the raging beast. The Hulk barely had time to land on the balcony before he leapt at Loki. The two of them rolled inside and broke more windows on their way in. Loki separated from the beast and he hit his head on the floor hard. Despite how painful the impact looked, he got back up on his feet like it was nothing.
Y/N knew that her wound was still too bad for her to get up there and face the Hulk. But she was on standby. If Loki needed her, she wasn’t going to let an arrow stop her. So far, they hadn’t noticed her sitting behind the couch with bloody hands. Everything hurt so bad, but she almost forgot about the pain when she looked at the Hulk. Surely, she’d be breakfast for him if he got his hands on her. She didn’t like the thought of that at all.
“ENOUGH!” Loki suddenly yelled. He sounded so done with everything, provoked even. She knew instantly that something was pushing on his mind. It couldn’t be good.
She grunted in pain as she moved closer. Loki was holding a furious speech and to her surprise, the Hulk had actually stopped for a second to listen.
“- I will not be bullied by aah!” Loki was caught off guard when he was attacked. The Hulk grabbed him by his legs and brutally smashed him against the ground repeatedly. In his strong arms, Loki was like a rag doll. He didn’t even put up a fight.
Y/N couldn’t just sit there and look at the mess. It physically pained her to see Loki treated like that. When she got back up her feet clumsily, the Hulk dropped Loki on the floor and he stayed down. The wind was knocked out of him and he stared at the ceiling, completely stunned.
“Puny god…”
“Stop it! She yelled at the Hulk with tears in her eyes.
He looked at her and prepared to attack, but when he saw the arrow, even the Hulk let his guard down. Not for long, but he certainly inspected the situation.
Cautiously, she made her way closer to Loki, only one step at the time. Her eyes never left the Hulk’s. He looked so angry behind the grimace, but he didn’t attack her for some odd reason.
“Please, just let me help him,” She whispered now. Healing her wound without many results had drained her energy and she was beginning to feel weak and nauseated. The sight of Loki like that didn’t help much.
Loki hadn’t moved at all. He just laid there and whimpered in pain as he struggled to breathe. Had he even acknowledged Y/N’s presence at all?
When she was deemed too close to Loki, the Hulk tightened his fists and took a step forward. Before she would face him in a fight, another person joined them.
“Step back!” Natasha had arrived. When? Y/N had no clue. Miraculously, the Hulk listened to her but he wasn’t happy about it. He murmured something nasty about gods underneath his breath and walked away like a grumpy child.
In shock, Y/N turned to face Natasha. Why had she stepped in to help her? That was a mystery but Y/N was genuinely thankful for that.
Without exchanging words, Natasha just watched as Y/N fell on her knees beside Loki, unable to keep herself up for much longer. The Black Widow didn’t see her as much of a threat by now so she didn’t intervene. They had much bigger problems to think about now that Loki was down.
The first thing Y/N checked was Loki’s breath. She had heard his whimpers, but to feel his breath against her palm was a huge relief.
“Hey,” She cupped his face in an attempt to gain his attention. He didn’t react to her voice at all. His eyes were closed shut and it almost resembled sleep. If only he was just asleep. The wound on his forehead was bleeding, but it was only a scratch compared to his other injuries.
“Loki, wake up,” She didn’t realize how beaten she was until now. Loki was unconscious and she had an arrow sticking out of her which was beginning to drain the rest of her energy. Everything became more difficult, even breathing. The pain was so overwhelming that it was hard to even think straight.
She could either try to heal herself more in order to put up a fight against the Avengers, or she could try to heal him. Time was their enemy. As much as it frightened her, she decided to help him.
With both hands on the sides of his face, she leaned against Loki as much as she could without the bloody arrow getting in the way. Her forehead rested against his gently and then she focused on all her power, directing into him. When she felt her magic blending in with his, it almost felt like someone was tickling her gently. His magic crashed against hers like waves on a stormy sea. The more she borrowed her magic to him, the harder it was to continue. The tickling sensation turned into something heavy and miserable. By now it felt like Loki’s magic had grabbed onto her very soul and it was tugging at it.
Eventually, Loki opened his eyes. As soon as he realized what was going on, he stopped her.
“Y/N!” He repeated her name a few times so she would snap out of it. The flow of energy stopped and her body collapsed. Loki sat up and grabbed her just in time before the arrow would've pushed through her completely.
Gently, he turned them over so she was on her back. Luckily, the arrow hadn’t pierced her back which meant she could lay down on the floor When he saw the arrow, Loki felt sick to his stomach. The sight felt like a punch in the gut and it troubled him greatly. How had this happened?
Loki’s first instinct was to find the agent who was responsible for this and make him pay for what he had done, but when he learned just how terrible Y/N’s condition was, he couldn’t even consider leaving her side. Loki felt guilty. It weighed down on his shoulders and he regretted dragging her into this. Once again, they were facing misery. It was like fate was testing them. When would it stop? When could they be happy?
He didn’t give a damn about the war, nor the portal. As long as he could help her, Loki would face the consequences. Right now, he couldn’t think about anything or anyone else than her.
Y/N looked at Loki’s concerned expression and it hurt her. Seeing him injured and so worried over her was like a knife in the heart. But at least he seemed to be alright. He was going to make it.
“I’m sorry,” She apologized, feeling the need to do so. In her mind, she had failed him. In a moment that could’ve turned out victorious for them, she had let her guard down and Hawkeye had managed to get a good shot at her.
“Don’t apologize,” Loki was quick to say something. “You’ll be alright,” He wasn’t entirely sure if he believed that himself. He forced himself to look at the wound and it was worse than he had imagined. How long had she had it in her? Why wasn’t her healing powers working against it?
A realization sent shivers down Loki’s spine. As happy as he was when he knew she would survive, he felt miserable. They had just found themselves again. This moment reminded him of the past. When he had lost her before. It was too similar and it wrecked him on the inside.
At least he could keep his promise. She’d be alright.
Natasha was watching them from a safe distance, but she didn’t focus on what they were saying. There were too many other issues she had to think about. She was willing to let Loki help her as long as he wouldn’t try anything else. By now, the portal had been closed and the others were finishing up their tasks. She was still waiting for Tony’s update. Last time the team had heard of him, there had been talk about a bomb. Tony had told them he had an idea.
The Hulk had left the building as he struggled to contain his rage near Loki. Natasha hoped that she could get some backup soon, but she also felt oddly confident in the situation. Loki seemed like he only had eyes for Y/N and nothing and no one else in that moment.
“I can help you,” Loki wanted her to understand that his intention was good. His lips were quivering now and he failed to mask how upset he was.
Despite how exhausted and weak she was, she picked up on that. “What are you talking about?”
Loki moved slightly so he was sitting comfortably right next to her. He helped her move so she could rest her hair on his lap. It was easier to work when she was closer to him like that.
“I’m going to have to remove this,” Loki explained carefully and glanced at the arrow.
Y/N followed the trail of his eyes. The idea of him pulling it out of her was gnarly and she knew it wouldn’t feel nice. What did she have to lose?
“Do you trust me?” Loki needed her answer.
It was scary, but she wasn’t afraid to trust him, “I do.”
Tears were gathering in the corners of Loki’s eyes. His mind was blocking out everything else. He refused to waste energy by thinking about their defeat or Thanos. Now all he could do was focus on her and making sure she’d live.
He grabbed the arrow and took a deep breath as if to prepare himself for the inevitable. Y/N gave him a nod which encouraged him to pull it out. Carefully, he began tugging at it. He could feel every little movement as he removed the arrow which was sickening. How could anyone hurt her? Loki didn’t understand that. He blamed himself for not being there to watch her back.
Once the arrow was removed, crimson blood oozed out of the wound and soaked her clothes and eventually the floor. She winced out in pain and squeezed her eyes shut. Loki had no time to waste.
“It’ll be okay very soon,” Loki promised her sincerely. He bent down to press a comforting kiss on her forehead, one that he knew he would savour for as long as he’d live. She didn’t respond to him, but she heard his voice clear as day.
Loki took one last glance at her. It felt like goodbye all over again. In a way, it was. Then he put his palm right above the wound, feeling the hot blood on his skin. He closed his eyes and focused entirely on healing her.
When Y/N felt the pain subside ever so slightly, she tried to face Loki. Her vision was blurry and she could hardly see past him. Instead of his usual green magic, a white light began to grow around his palm. It surrounded her wound instantly and began to spread all around them, until they were inside a shield of magic. The pure energy of it all was so strong. If anyone from the outside had tried to reach them, they wouldn’t have been able to do so.
Y/N watched in awe as the air around them turned into a whirlwind. It was gentle but it played with his hair. Next thing she knew, Loki opened his eyes and they were white. It looked like all the colour had been drained from them and they shone so brightly that it was nearly impossible to look directly into them. What was he doing?
“I need you to know that I’m sorry,” Loki turned to face her. Was he crying?
“W-why?”
Loki was quiet for a moment. That’s when Y/N picked up another source of light. It came from her own palm. As she looked at it, she saw the stars again. Why were they shining? One star in particular stuck out. Unlike the other stars that shone just as brightly as the other, this one was more intense.
“I never meant to drag you into this. This was never supposed to happen,” Loki was talking about everything that had happened. In his mind, they should’ve been together, possibly on Asgard. They deserved to be happy. But life had been cruel and separated them. Was this a direct result of all their wrong choices?
“I chose to be by your side,” Y/N remembered. By now, speaking felt immensely difficult. Her body wanted to sleep. Her eyes hardly stayed open. The idea of accepting the darkness that so desperately wanted to surround her was tempting. It no longer scared her.
Loki lifted his palm from her wound. As he did that, she noticed that the stars beneath his skin were shining as well. The magic he was using was strong, but strange. Why did it feel so familiar?
When Loki reached for her hand and touched it, she didn’t feel his touch anymore. Everything was so numb. The lack of feeling made her feel so shallow.
All of a sudden Y/N felt her heart skip a beat. Right afterwards Loki let go of her hand. The star from her palm suddenly raised above and floated in the air right underneath Loki’s hand. One of his stars joined it and they watched how the small lights danced together. In a bizarre way, it was beautiful. Calming, even.
Carefully, as if he was trying not to drop something, Loki moved the stars toward the brutal wound. The lights merged into one bigger star and it twinkled a few times. It almost looked like a diamond with a million cut edges. The magic that was stored within it was so powerful it could’ve moved oceans apart. Even though Y/N was weak and she felt like she would succumb to nothingness at any moment now, she could feel the magic in her soul.
“I wish there was another way,” Loki’s voice was quiet. Then he lowered the star and pressed his palm above her wound again. This time, he could feel the change. It closed as the magic began to heal her.
Loki knew that soon enough, they would be strangers again. It tore his heart to pieces, but he knew it was for the best. He was going to make sure she wouldn’t suffer for the consequences of his actions and then he would leave her in the past - forever. They had tried to make things work out several times, but it had never been successful. In his mind, he brought misfortune to her. Everything he touched seemed to turn to dust.
“Goodbye,” Loki whispered his farewell to her, unsure if she could hear. She was blessed with a fresh start, but he would be cursed with knowledge, with their memories.
“I love you.”
As if someone had breathed life into her lungs for her, Y/N gasped dramatically. She blinked and the next time she opened her eyes, she was in an entirely different place.
Everything turned pitch black. The darkness enveloped her completely.
Where am I?
Who am I?
Thoughts swirled in her head as she stood in the middle of nowhere, all alone. How did she get there?
When something flashed by her side, it startled her. Y/N turned around but she was too slow. The mysterious figure had already vanished.
“Hello?” She called out for anyone who could hear her frightened voice.
Another flash of light caught her attention. And another. another. It didn’t stop until she saw countless of figures all around her. Where did they come from? They were all whispering something, but she couldn’t make sense of it. Their voices merged together into one big mess that grew louder and louder until it hurt her ears.
There was no use in hiding. There were no places to run for shelter. She was surrounded by these mysterious flashes and they terrified her.
It quickly overwhelmed her. Y/N covered her face with her hands in an attempt to block out the bizarre creatures around her. A few seconds passed and everything turned silent again. Her heart was beating hard. It felt like it had leapt to her throat at this point. Did she dare to look?
It took every ounce of courage she had to remove the hands from her face. When she did, she saw a figure standing right in front of her.
“Who are you?!” She wasn’t even sure who she was, but it was the first thing that came to mind. Did the stranger know how scared she was?
He just stood there. His emerald eyes didn’t move. As she looked at him longer, she realized that he didn’t move at all. He was completely frozen in time.
Her eyes scanned the other figures that stood all around them. No one moved, but they all stared at her ominously. Being surrounded by these people with no way out was like a nightmare. The place seemed never-ending. The figures were in rows as far as her eyes could see.
Several of them resembled the man who stood right in front of her. They looked younger, some seemed older. There were several faces in the crowd, but this one stuck out the most. His raven hair and piercing gaze were somehow familiar. So Y/N decided to be brave and face him one more time.
“Can you hear me?” She wondered. Her voice echoed in the odd space.
Instead of saying something to her, the man reached out his hand. When she looked at his outstretched hand, she noticed something that resembled stars right above his palm. They were mesmerizing and it was hard to look away. The lights had a gravity to them.
There were nine stars in total, but only six of them were twinkling with light. Three of them were dull, like a dying fire. It reminded her of darkened coal. Burned to an end.
Did he want her to touch them? Why wasn’t he speaking?
“What are they?” She needed to know.
The man’s cold expression shifted into something more sympathetic. “Our lives, Y/N.”
Y/N?
That must’ve been her name. It felt right.
What did he mean by that?
“Am I dead?” She barely managed to push the words out of her mouth. The idea of being dead was startling, but it made sense.
“I suppose you could say that,” the man replied calmly, “but not for long.”
Not for long?
“What do you mean?” Y/N had to know. Her poor heart felt like it was going to explode. Nothing made sense and she felt so lost and lonely.
“Once you are ready, you can return to your third life.”
Third life?
A shocked laugh escaped her lips, “This is madness.”
“Is it?” The man questioned her mysteriously.
Silence fell over them. Only this time, it didn’t feel as scary. Y/N studied the countless of faces all around her. Some of them belonged to a boy. An older man also shared that face so she assumed it was the same person. She saw a man and a woman who were always standing next to each other, no matter how many duplicates they had. One of the people around her always held onto a hammer. One was missing an eye. And there were so many more.
Why was this person the one talking to her? And why did she feel so sentimental about this stranger? Were they strangers or had she forgotten him?
“Who are you?” She repeated her earlier question.
“I’m merely a memory,” he explained, “you’ll have to find me again.”
By now she knew that he wasn’t going to give her any direct answers. The best thing she could do was to take in all the details on his face. If there was a chance that she could find him, she was definitely going to do so. He was the only clue she had on anything.
“How do I return to it?” Y/N questioned him after a while. This strange and dark place had nothing more to offer her. She felt ready to face whatever came next. The unknown was both frightening and ever so tempting. It made her curious.
“Take my hand,” The man instructed her. Although it was slightly strange, she trusted him.
And she did so. The moment she touched his hand and he closed his fingers around hers, the other figures vanished into thin air. The darkness began to fade and it felt like the world was caving in on them.
The man disappeared as well. For a moment, she was all by herself. Everything was fine, until the sensation of her falling took her by surprise. Y/N flinched and her eyes opened wide.
She noticed people all around her. They were all bloody and their clothes were dirty. The place they were in was fancy, but the broken furniture and windows were evidence of something awful that had happened. Did she die there?
Y/N was sitting on the floor and she wanted to stand up,  but a man was pointing an arrow at her.
“Don’t move,” He sounded angry.
“Woah,” She raised her arms in surrender, not wishing to die and return to that dark world she just came back from. This man didn’t look anything like the one who had talked to her.
“Her spell is broken!” A familiar voice made both of them turn their heads. A tall man had said it and he was facing them with his back. Y/N saw a green cape and long, dark hair. She couldn’t believe her luck. It must’ve been the same man.
“You!” She smiled despite having an arrow pointed at her. “It’s you!” She couldn’t believe her eyes when he turned around and she saw his face. Then she saw the handcuffs and the blonde man who was holding onto him. Was he a prisoner?
“What’s going on?” A redheaded woman seemed confused by the situation. “I thought she was a goner.”
The man with the cape kept a cold look on his face, “She was for a moment. But she’s much tougher than you’d think.”
The blonde man tugged at his arm, “what did you say about a spell, Loki?”
Loki? So his name was Loki? Y/N tried to remember that as she watched them from the floor.
“Did you really think I would trust her to be loyal to me after everything? That I would leave the tesseract into her hands after we had spent so long apart?” Loki laughed mockingly and then faced her again, “I used something far stronger than the sceptre to turn her to my side. It seems like a little brush with death wore it off.”
She couldn’t believe her ears. The only clue she had was him and he was talking about putting a spell over her? Why did he sound so mean?
The redheaded woman made the guy lower his weapon and the arrow was no longer pointed at her.
“Can we trust him?” The arrow man seemed suspicious of it all.
“There’s only one way to find out,” The woman replied and knelt down on the floor next to Y/N. “How are you feeling?”
“I...I don’t understand. What’s going on?” Y/N needed to know. A terrible headache was forming in her head at an alarming rate. Her mind tried to put all the pieces together but absolutely nothing made sense. Not knowing anything or remembering anything was like hell.
“The wound is gone,” The woman noticed as she glanced at Y/N’s stomach.
What wound?
“Who are you?”
“Do you really not remember?” The woman narrowed her eyes and seemed to look right into her soul. She certainly had a tough expression.
Cautiously, Y/N shook her head no.
“I’m Natasha,” She introduced herself, but still remained suspicious. “We have to take you with us just in case you are tricking us,” She pointed at Loki as she spoke. Then rather gently, she helped Y/N up on her feet. “We’re going to get to the bottom of things.”
For a moment, Y/N felt lightheaded. She didn’t fight it as Natasha put handcuffs around her wrists. It’s like her mind was so overwhelmed by everything that she was unable to do much. Why were they in handcuffs?
“What happened?”
Everyone in the room shared strange glances. Why was there a huge, green person in the room as well? Why did he look so angry?
“Loki what did you do to her?” The blonde man wondered bitterly. Everyone seemed to blame Loki for this, whatever this was.
“I already told you, now didn’t I?” Loki was quick with his remark. The two of them seemed to have a complicated relationship. Their outfits resembled each other’s and stood out from everyone else there.
Natasha nudged Y/N gently so she would walk with her, “I usually know a liar when I see one. I think she’s genuinely confused,” she let everyone know.
Confused was an understatement.
“Okay all of you, let’s move!” A brown haired guy spoke. There was a strange blue light underneath his shirt that immediately caught Y/N’s attention. It was located right above his heart. He was also carrying a silver briefcase and he had what looked like guards on both his sides. Whatever he was carrying must’ve been priceless.
Everyone began to make their way into the elevator, including Natasha and Y/N. The green thing tried to get into the elevator as well, but it was full. All Y/N could do was to just stand next to Natasha and silently take in her surroundings. She didn’t know what to think of it all.
As the elevator doors closed, the green one hit it so hard that the metal bent. No one seemed surprised by it, but Y/N was shocked. How had he done that?
She turned around to look at Loki who now had his mouth covered by a metallic mouth guard.  Asking him anything at all would’ve been useless because there was no way he could answer with that thing on. No, she didn’t know what he had done or why he was treated like a prisoner, but it didn’t mean she didn’t feel for him. His face had appeared before her just a moment ago. Clearly, he was important.
And he didn’t even look at her.
Why did it hurt?
Loki was all she could think about when they were led out of the elevator. The ground level was swarmed with people. A lot of them wore suits and the overall tension in the space was obvious. Looking outside through the big windows, she could see destruction and smoke. It didn’t take a fool to know that something terrible had went down there, wherever they were.
They were stopped when a group of armed men walked right up to them, blocking the entrance.
“May I ask you where you’re going?” An older man questioned the man with the briefcase. It seemed serious.
“To lunch and then Asgard, and I’m sorry, you are?” The blonde one had let go of Loki as he answered the man’s question.
The man with the briefcase answered for him, “Alexander Pierce.  He's the man, one of the folks behind Nick Fury,” He explained the latter a little bit quieter.
Alexander didn’t want to waste any more time, “My friends call me Mr. Secretary. I'm gonna have to ask you to turn those prisoners over to me.”
Prisoners?
Y/N realized that only she and Loki were handcuffed. He must’ve been talking about them. The idea of going somewhere with Alexander Pierce made her uncomfortable for whatever reason. Like she wasn’t able to trust him at all.
“Loki will answer to Odin himself,” The tall blonde man explained, “and Y/N? She’s not really a prisoner. I think not.”
“Oh they’re going to answer to us, Odin can have what’s left...of Loki,” Alexander sounded quite sure of himself, “And I’m gonna need that case. That's been S.H.I.E.L.D. property for over 70 years,” He gestured toward the briefcase. Whatever was inside it was beginning to catch Y/N’s interest. Why were people fighting over it? She wanted to know what it was.
“What do you mean? Why are you keeping Y/N?” Briefcase guy wondered.
“She, just as the case, has been our property for years. We are not done with her!”
Their property? The sound of that made Y/N’s skin crawl. Why did they speak of her like she was less of a person? It made her sick to her stomach and she wanted to chew on the guy’s words, but decided to stay quiet for a little longer. The two guys were handling the situation just fine.
The authority over the briefcase quickly turned into an argument right before their eyes. As they fought over it, Y/N turned around to look at Loki. He was taking in his surroundings, studying every little thing he could see. Was he planning something?
For a moment, their eyes met and she could’ve sworn that his expression softened. It looked like he wanted to say something, but it was impossible. If she read his eyes correctly, she could tell that he was sorry. The man looked defeated and he had been quite sassy with everyone else. But now he looked at her with compassion, even if it was only for a second. She noticed it.
Everything came to a halt when the briefcase fell on the floor and the man who had been carrying it began to visibly struggle. Everyone reacted to the man’s sudden change of demeanor and somehow, the briefcase slid away from them and no one seemed to care. What on earth was happening to him?
A guard grabbed the briefcase and tried to walk away with it - just like that. It seemed wrong, but Y/N wasn’t going to stop him. Someone else did.
The green beast finally reached their level and he was upset. The door he had opened had pushed the guard on the floor and now the briefcase slid right back to their direction. The green one started roaring out in anger about how much he hated stairs, the people began to run away from him in panic. Y/N froze on the spot, staring at him wide eyed. She had no idea what he was capable of and she didn’t truly want to figure that out either.
Instead, she fixated her eyes on the bright blue cube that fell out of the briefcase. It was beautiful. She couldn’t look away and she just watched as it reached Loki’s feet. Loki looked at it in astonishment, like he couldn’t believe his luck. Then before anyone could stop him, he bent down and grabbed it.
He made the decision in a second and he didn’t hesitate at all when he ran toward Y/N and held onto her as well as he could with his cuffed hands.
“What are you-” She didn’t even get to finish her sentence as a portal appeared right behind Loki. The sight of it took her breath away as she couldn’t believe what she was seeing. It had bright blue edges just like the cube, but it led into seemingly eternal darkness. Before anyone could stop them, Loki stepped back into it, and pulled her with him.
The moment they entered the mysterious portal, it disappeared and Loki held onto her tighter. She was scared that something bad would happen if she let go, so instinctively she held onto Loki for dear life.

Odin’s Ward ~ Chapter 4

Y/n’s POV
My eyes glaze over as I study yet another account of Asgard’s history. This time, it’s the telling of the first war against the Frost Giants, a story I have only learned about ten thousand times. The soft feathers in my bed, much more captivating than this boring tale, invite me to sink deeper, to drift off to sleep. I’ve got a few hours before dinner…a nap would do me no harm.…I lay the book on my stomach and close my eyes, allowing the soft light of the afternoon sun to fade away.
A footstep echoes through my chambers.
My eyes fly open and I sit up, tension otherwise holding my body in place. Surely that couldn’t be coming from inside my room.
After a full minute of silence, I relax. I must have imagined it.
I lay back into the pillows, eager to return to my nap.
The lace of one of my curtains ripples.
My breath hitches. Someone might actually be in here.
Just as I open my mouth to call for a guard, the shrill sound of clanging echoes through the castle. Warning bells.
A hot spike of fear shoots through my stomach, and I dive to the table nearest my bed, the one containing a dagger Loki had given me for emergencies. With warning bells ringing in my ears and the sounds of the guards’ stomping feet resonating through the halls, this is surely that.
It’s probably safer to stay in my chambers rather than to venture into the unknown of the halls. For all I can guess, Frost Giants or rebels have already begun to terrorize the inside of the castle.
But I cannot ignore the step I heard in my room, nor the rustle of the curtain. I am not alone in here, and, for that reason, I must get out.
Dagger in hand, I break out at a sprint towards the door. Once outside, I’ll stick to the edge of the hallways until I can reach a guard or find the nearest safe room. I realize then, that I don’t remember the locations nor access codes to said safe rooms. Oh gods, I should have prepared for this! Panic spurs me on, and I reach for the door handle.
An arm locks around my waist, a cold hand clamping over my mouth before I can release a scream. I raise my free hand to plunge the dagger into my attacker’s thigh, but he dodges easily, stepping back and spinning me around to face him.
I let the dagger fall to my side.
It’s Loki, eyebrow raised and wearing an amused smile.
I gape, and something in my expression makes him lose the battle fighting his laughter. He begins to chortle, dropping his arms from my shoulders and taking a few steps back towards the center of my chambers.
“My, you’re easy to scare. I should to do this more often. It’s quite fun.”
Anger rushes through me. “Loki, what the hell?! Freaking me out like that during an attack on the city! That was really mean and I am going to kill you later, but for now, we’ve gotta go. We need to find a guard or a safe room or something.”
I turn from him and resume my progress towards the door, but he stops me by locking a hand around my wrist. I turn to find him looking dubious and as if he has no intention of leaving this room.
“Why?”
I huff, tugging on my wrist in an effort to either get him to release me or follow me. At this point, I’m considering just leaving him here. He could probably take care of himself, anyway. Or at the very least, annoy the attackers to death. “Because we’re under attack, obviously. We need to find somewhere we’ll be safe.”
He rolls his eyes, letting go of my wrist to stroll leisurely through my room. He plops on my bed, stretching his long frame over the plushy mattress.
Even in the face of fear and possibly death, the sight of him in my bed distracts me. It’s new, and strange, but not exactly bad. He’s thrown protocol and propriety completely out the window by one, visiting my chambers unaccompanied, and by two, lying in my bed.
Nanny Idsol must be rolling in her grave.
But now’s not the time to analyze Loki’s questionable decision-making skills. Or mine, for that matter, seeing as I’ve not kicked him out or called for a chaperone. I pull my focus back to the situation at hand.
“I assure you, we’re perfectly safe here.” Loki stretches his hands behind his head, looking completely at home.
My blood boils at his ‘I know something you don’t’ attitude. Still, my heart rate calms. With Loki, he usually does know something you don’t. And if he’s not concerned, I probably don’t need to be, either.
A suspicion begins to form in the back of my mind. No….“Why are the warning bells going off, Loki?”
He smiles at the ceiling as if he hasn’t a care in the world. “Well, that would be my fault, I assume. I did break into the Vault and pilfer one of Asgard’s treasures.”
“You what,” I hiss, forgetting all about my fear and instead zeroing in on disbelief. I stomp towards my bed, stopping at the edge so I can stare over my annoyingly calm best friend. “Loki, you’re a literal prince. You don’t need to steal treasure because it’s already yours. Everything in the entire world is yours!” Is it healthy for my teeth to clench this tightly? Probably not.
Loki just shrugs, turning his head to the side so his eyes can meet mine. He winks. “Yes, but where’s the fun in that?”
I roll my eyes, trying to ignore the flutter in my stomach resulting from his teasing. “You need to give it back.”
He smiles, once again staring at the ceiling. “Oh, I will. I just want Father to squirm for a few hours.”
Emboldened by the adrenaline coursing through me, I perch on the top corner of my bed. Still, I keep my hands safely in my lap and leave plenty of space between us. He notices, and the edges of his lips twitch. Obviously, he finds depthless wells of humor at my expense. Mercifully though, he doesn’t comment. Instead, he closes his eyes, looking perfectly comfortable, like he could drift off to sleep at any moment. The same way I had been before he so rudely interrupted.
“So I thought I would lie low here, until the guards are done exhausting themselves running all around the castle.” He opens one eye, peeking at me without actually moving his head. “If you don’t mind, of course.”
I shake my head a little too quickly. “I don’t mind.” Then, I remember all the unnecessary fear I just went through. I grit my teeth and speak under my breath. “Even though you scared me half to death.”
He, of course, hears my complaint, and rolls onto his stomach, taking my hands in his. When I look down in surprise, I find him staring up at me with a soft, still slightly amused but otherwise benevolent, smile. “I’m sorry.”
I huff, trying to ignore my frustratingly pleasant reaction to his hands on mine. “Forgiven, I guess.”
He squeezes my hands lightly before releasing them and rolling onto his back once again. When I look down, I notice the dagger I previously held is gone.
“Hey,” I protest, but he doesn’t even open his eyes.
“I don’t exactly feel safe taking a nap not a foot away from an armed and possibly still angry woman. You can have the dagger back when I leave.”
I grit my teeth, always teetering on the edge of laughing and wanting to scream when I’m with him. “Well, maybe I don’t exactly feel safe being alone in my room with a thief.”
His cheek twitches. “Yet you are still here.”
“Because it’s my room,” I shout, indignant.
He just shushes me and continues his chuckles. “Actually, since I am one of the heirs, everything in this castle is mine, as you so intelligently mentioned earlier, including this room. So I think I shall take a nap in one of my rooms and, because I am a kind prince, you are welcome to join me.”
“Oh, wow, thank you, Your Gracious Majesty.” I roll my eyes, grateful that his eyes are still shut, meaning he can’t see my teeth begin to worry my bottom lip. Is he inviting me to lie down with him?
Well, at the very least, he seems completely cool and unbothered by the situation. It really could do no harm for me to pretend to be the same. With the adrenaline spurring me on, I smooth out my dress and carefully extend myself on the mattress next to him, still leaving a sliver of space between us.
The side of his mouth quirks up as it so often does.
I feel the need to defend myself. “I was trying to sleep before you ruined it, you know.”
His expression smooths over, and his voice is peaceful when he speaks. “Forgive me, My Lady, but I do seem to be trying to remedy that now.”
Despite my nerves, a shaky laugh escapes me, and I relax slightly.
It’s no big deal, right? Besides, there’s no way either of us will actually fall asleep, what with those shill bells ringing like that. We’re just resting our eyes. And there’s plenty of space between us, anyway.
Neither of us says anything more and, within minutes, his breathing becomes deep and even.
I crack open an eye, rolling over slightly to stare at him. How in the Norns did he fall asleep so quickly? And with all that noise? … And with me right here?
A small part of me is hurt that he’s not as affected by my presence in this bed as I am by his, but I quickly dismiss the thought. It’s obvious that he’s much more casual about things than I am, and it’s not exactly a secret that he’s done more in a woman’s bed than sleep. He does have that luxury, after all, being a prince.
I return to lying on my back and close my eyes, trying to use Loki’s even breathing as a metronome to calm my still-speeding heart.
{***}
The room is completely dark when I open my eyes, and it takes a moment to adjust. The high-pitched pealing of the bells is gone, replaced by a peaceful silence. The right side of my body is much warmer than the rest of me. As winter approaches, the castle is becoming unpleasantly chilly, and I burrow closer to the source of warmth, wanting to go back to sleep.
The source shifts and pulls me closer. I shut my eyes, sinking closer to the comfortable heat.
My eyes fly open and my mouth gapes open in a silent gasp.
Loki.
Whaaaaat.
During sleep, Loki had pressed himself against my side, throwing one of his arms around my stomach and coming to a gentle rest on my hip. I had fallen into him and curled against his chest. Covering my mouth in a desperate attempt to mute any noise escaping, I carefully disentangle myself. Once I’m safely free, I ease myself out of the bed and rush to the other side of the room before I’m even fully conscious of my movements.
Holy crap. I just cuddled with one of the most important men in the nine realms.
With one of the most off-limits men.
With the guy that is safely my best friend, and nothing more; nor could he ever be anything more.
I exhale, urging myself to stop making such a big deal out of this. I try to convince myself that it’s fine, but I know that’s a lie. If word got out about this…if anyone found out, my reputation would be absolutely ruined. Father would disown me. No man would want to marry me. There will be no way to salvage my future if people know what just took place.
Because there’s no way to prove that we’d only been sleeping.
Court gossip is insidious, and news of Prince Loki and the King’s Ward spending four hours alone in a dark bedroom together would spread like a wildfire. There would be accounts from ‘witnesses’, claiming to hear sounds of passion as they passed by my bedroom door, or saying they saw Loki sneaking out half-dressed. A well-placed bribe to an ambitious guard could do wonders for the rumor mill.
I trust Loki, of course, and know that he won’t say anything. I obviously won’t say anything. But if someone were to find us….
I gulp, and, before I can act on my decision to wake Loki up and tell him to leave, there’s a knock on the door.
Shit.
The pounding does my job for me, and Loki sits up slowly, blinking in slight confusion.
“Hide,” I hiss, hoping he can hear me from across the room.
He disappears without question.
I smooth my hair, likely quite disheveled from my nap, and open the door to reveal two burly guards.
They use my name as a greeting, and the taller of the two explains their presence. “We’re checking on everyone in the castle, making sure they’re all accounted for. The thief has yet to be found, but the stolen item was returned to the Vault.” Then, he furrows his brow, peering past me into my room. “Why are all the lights off? Lady Y/n, are you alright?”
It’s not difficult to follow his train of thought. No candles or torches to light my dark room is suspicious. For all he knows, the thief is hiding in my chambers. The guard isn’t too far off, seeing as the thief was definitely here a minute ago, and could very well be still, hiding in the shadows. In case Loki is still here, I can’t risk the guards coming in for a search. I have to get them to leave.
I put on my most winning smile. “Yes, I’m quite alright, thank you for your concern. I’m afraid the stress of the warning bells exhausted me, and I allowed myself a brief slumber. Your knock is what woke me up.”
He looks properly abased, and bows his head slightly. “My apologies, Lady Y/n. We will let you return to your sleep.”
I thank them sweetly and shut the door as naturally as I can. When I hear their footsteps retreat, I light a candle and search my room.
“Loki?”
But he’s nowhere to be found.
{***}
At dinner, everyone chatters about the perplexing theft and subsequent return of the missing object. Theories range from Frost Giants to a group of rowdy kids. No one suspects the privileged son of Odin himself.
The prince in question does not look at me as I take my seat to his right. He merely nods, not looking up from his cool surveillance of the room.
“Lady Y/n.”
“Prince Loki.” My response is just as short.
There’s no way for us to look each other in the eye, to discuss our lapse in judgement. So, I assume, we will just ignore it.
Though try as I might, I can’t stop replaying the feeling of him pulling me close.

“Oh, this won’t fly,” the director said to you as he flipped through the script.
You furrowed your brow with confusion.  “What?  Why?”  You sighed.  “John, you asked me to create a firsthand view of life with the Avengers.  Being one myself, I think my view is fairly accurate.”
He shook his head.  “Oh, no, everything is accurate.  There’s just one bit,” he explained, pointing at a particular section in the packet.
Your eyes followed his finger.  “Loki?”
“He nearly destroyed all of New York City, Y/N, fucking New York!  It’d be different if it were a little blip out in the country, but this is as American as it gets,” he said.
You tried to keep your annoyance in check.  “With all due respect, it has been proven that New York was not entirely Loki’s doing.  He was under the influence of a more powerful entity.”
“Yeah, the Mind Stone, as you’ve written.”
“Yes, and --”  You stopped.  “You don’t believe me.”
“It’s not a matter of belief,” he said.  “The entire world still sees Loki as a threat.  What good will it do to try to paint him in a better light when he was born to be the villain?”
You pursed your lips, your patience slipping.  “Like it or not, Loki has been part of the Avengers for years now.  He has done his best to atone for his mistakes.  Including my say in the script will only help that.”
As the director opened his mouth to say more, you shook your head, putting a hand on his shoulder.  “Why don’t you sleep on it, John?  Give me a call tomorrow morning.”
He looked reluctant, but sighed nonetheless.
Your heart was still beating hard as you left the production office to go home.  You sighed the entire drive back.
Of course, it would be harder for other people to see Loki the way you did, but you never expected everyone to be so hellbent on making him the villain through and through.  You couldn’t even imagine the constant torment Loki had to endure every time he went out.
No wonder he stays at home.
By the time you got back to the compound, you were beat.  You barely made it to your room before collapsing on your bed, throwing your briefcase sloppily to the other side of the room.
Just before sleep could take you, you felt a presence at your door.
“Bad day?” Loki asked, leaning against your door frame in a casual pair of sweatpants.
“Men,” was all you needed to say, earning a small roll of the eyes and a sigh from the God of Mischief.
“Would you like me to stab them?”
You laughed as you rolled over to sit up.  “No, that wouldn’t be good.”
“I suppose it wouldn’t,” he chuckled.  “Also, I meant that as a joke.”
“I know.”  You stretched before slowly getting to your feet.  “I’m gonna shower.  Don’t touch anything.”
Loki rolled his eyes again.  “You know I won’t.”
As you grabbed a change of clothes and retreated to the bathroom, Loki saw your briefcase upside down and open, papers strewn everywhere.  He sighed before going to straighten it up, only to have his name catch his eye.  He thanked his lucky stars for being able to read English.
As he read through the section, his brow grew deeper and deeper.  Is this really what you thought of him?  He glanced at the closed bathroom door with a thoughtful expression.  It was certainly quite a change from people screaming when they saw him or the looks of fear he received.
You opened the bathroom door, yawning.
“Feeling better?” Loki asked, his eyes still on your script.
“Loads,” you said.  You noticed him holding your script and frowned.  “Loki.”
He dropped it on your desk, eyes slightly wide.  “I know.  I was only --”
“It’s okay.”
He looked away, his ears red.  “Thank you.”
You furrowed your brow.  “What for?”
“You paint me in such a charming light,” he said.  “I don’t know if I’m entirely deserving of it.”
You sighed.  “Loki, we’ve talked about this,” you said.  “New York wasn’t your fault.  You can’t let what people say about you get to your head.  It’s not worth it.”
“I know,” he said as he walked over and placed a kiss on your forehead.  “But still, thank you.”
You laughed.  “You’re not normally like this.”
“It means a lot.”
“I can tell.”
Before Loki could say more, your phone rang.
“Hello?” you said.
“Y/N, it’s John.”
You immediately perked up.  “Oh, hi,” you said.  “I wasn’t expecting your call until tomorrow.”
“I thought enough about it,” he said.  “We’ll go through with your script.”
You could scarcely believe your ears.  “I-I’m sorry?”
“Don’t make me say it again.”
“Sorry, sir, I won’t.  I just wanted to make sure,” you said, barely containing your happiness.
He chuckled on the other side of the line.  “See you tomorrow then.”
“Yes, thank you!”
When you hung up the phone, you’d forgotten Loki was there.  He gazed at you with wonder and admiration.  He found himself pulling you in for a soft kiss.
You pulled back with a laugh.  “You don’t even know what I was talking about.”
“I don’t need to,” he said.  “Your happiness is enough.”

Call Me
Call Me - A Reader Request One Shot
(TOM HIDDLESTON X READER)
You and Tom have been dating for a few months but you've never had sex before. You're a bit too shy and he respects that. But one day, you notice that Tom is hard while he's Skyping you. You can't help but get turned on, and before you know it, you're scheming a plan for your next call with him.
Word Count: 3124
NSFW, SMUT, DADDY KINK, SKYPE SEX
Based on the request: Hi can I request a fic? Maybe one where the reader started dating Tom while he was in Betrayal on Broadway and when he leaves for LA to start pre production for the Disney+ Loki series they communicate through Skype or FaceTime. And she notices one night that he’s turned on but he doesn’t know she notices. She gets nervous because they’ve never had sex and the reader is really shy. So The next night she has it planned to initiate Skype sex with him and it gets really smutty?
Tumblr media
You were never a fan of celebrities. Honestly, interacting with them was your least favorite part of your job. But you were a New York based journalist and catching stories was your top priority.
You wanted to work on crime stories. You wanted to see the depths of the city and undercover the secrets of Manhattan. Apparently, your boss had other ideas. He thought you’d be perfect for covering the scoop on the high life. With a rent to pay and a need to put food on the table, you begrudgingly agreed.
That was how you found yourself standing outside of the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater on the night before Halloween ready to cover the big costume reveal of the Betrayal cast. Really, you didn’t see what the big deal was. Two of the lads were Marvel stars so it was inevitable they would dress up as each other. The fans would go crazy and the press would eat it up.
That’s when you met Tom Hiddleston.
He wasn’t like most celebrities you chased. He was charming, kind, and incredibly elegant. You got caught up in his confidence and chivalry. After interviewing him about the exciting costume reveal, he offered you a ticket to see him perform another night.
And then another. And another. And another. Until essentially not a night went by where you weren’t sitting in the audience watching his emotional performance.

Manipulating a God | chpt. one
Request/Synopsis: Trying to break the information out of Loki during the attack of 2012 wasn’t exactly the easiest task, but it was a challenge you were willing to take head on. So, what happened when a master manipulator tried to get information from the God of Mischief?
Series warnings: Swearing, mentions of violence, blood and gore
Pairings: Stark!Reader x Loki
A/N: So, this story takes place during the Avengers (2012) but with my own twist. The story will be slightly different but following the main plot line of the film, so the dialogue won’t follow the script exactly. I really hope you guys enjoy it! xoxoxox
Tumblr media
Since the day you were born, you had carried the infamous name Stark, which came with a lot of expectation.  Having grown up with a dad who was never around, and a mother who tried her best to resolve your family’s issues, you had turned to your older brother for any kind of advice or support, practically guilt tripping him into letting you do everything with him. He was smart - way beyond smart, actually - and all you wanted was to be the same as him. He inspired you, he was the ideal brother.
When your parents died in a car crash, Tony immediately stepped up and helped raise you to be tough, smart, strong-willed, and determined. You knew these were practically some of the only traits that you and Tony shared in common. While he flaunted his wealth, brains and charm, you tended to hide in the shadows. Years after your parents deaths, the two of you became very distant.
While Tony had decided to help build the company, you opted out, wanting nothing do with it. He was mad, furious even, that you left it in his hands and ‘abandoned’ the Stark family legacy, but part of him respected your decision. He took over with Pepper Potts and they managed it well for years and years - until of course, Tony Stark officially announced himself as Iron Man.
Your big brother - the man who would fill a mug with marshmallows and put in the microwave to watch it blow up when you were younger - he was now a world-renowned superhero. And you were just his sister.
With the amount of times Tony faced enemies and dangers, you had decided to step up and do something. Being persuasive was your skill - the one thing you took from your last name. You had developed the handy manipulation tactic with the amount of times you had to go rescue or find your brother from the countless kidnappers and crazed anti-fans. Finally, the duo of Tony and Y/N Stark was back together, and although you didn’t have any sort of metallic suit with blasters, only the tactical one Tony designed you, you did have your big brother on your side again. And that was all you could ask for.
So now, as Shield Agent Phil Coulson stood in your living room telling you about some out-of-galaxy man with a glowing blue cube who wanted to take over the planet, you couldn’t help but think of Tony.
“Thanks, um, Coulson, I’m just gonna - I gotta make a call,” you politely dismissed yourself and ran into your room, shutting the door behind you in a panic. You pulled your phone and clicked on Tony’s name.
“Come on, pick up, pick up,” you mumbled, and when he finally picked up, you let out a sigh of relief.
“Y/N?” He sounded confused by your call, which made you wonder if he even knew about what Coulson had told you.
“Tony! There’s something happening, um, this guy is going to attack? Or something? I don’t know, Coulson -”
“I know.” Tony sighed, “He came by not too long ago. I’ve got all the files here.”
You let out a deep breath - of course Tony knew already.
“Alright, I’ll stop by,” you hung up before he could reply and opened your door, facing an awkward-looking Phil Coulson who was rocking back and forth on the heels of his shoes.
“Hi,” you breathed out, speed walking out of your room, “Here’s the thing - I gotta go see Tony, um, we need to talk, you know. Thanks for coming by and letting me know,” you opened the front door and turned to face him, “Take care, and uh, say hi to Fury for me.”
Coulson started to walk towards the door, slightly befuddled, “Are you going to join or..?”
You sighed, pretending to think it over, “I need to talk to Tony, this is serious.”
This seemed to be a decent answer for him so he gave you a curt nod, adjusting his tie and walking out of the door. You shut it behind him and waited for the elevator to go down before you grabbed your car keys and a jacket.
Picking up an apple off the kitchen counter while putting on your shoes, you struggled to make your way out of the door but you eventually did, locking it behind you and taking a bite from your fruit.
You made your way to the carpark and found your car, hopping into the comfortable seat and starting the engine, taking off towards Stark tower. It wasn’t a long drive, you had a decent apartment right along Central Park, but it had been a while since you stepped foot in there so part of you wasn’t sure what to expect.
Turning off the radio, the constant hum of the engine being your soundtrack, you began to really think about what Coulson had said. You had always believed in life outside of Earth, but coming face to face with a danger like this was undoubtedly out of your paygrade. You had been approached by Nick Fury a few years back about forming a team of Earth’s mightiest defenders, called the Avengers Initiative - and if you were being truthful, this seemed like the right time for this to come into action.
The lights of Stark Tower caught your eye as you half-hazardly parked out front, rushing into the building and making your way up to Tony’s living space. As you reached his floor, he practically didn’t even notice your presence, too captivated by the hologram files he was looking over.
“Tony,” you announced your presence, making him jump, “So, what’s the deal?”
“Hm?” Tony turned to face you, “Yeah, not our problem.” With the swipe of his hand, the files had all disappeared into thin air. Rolling your eyes, you walked over to him, dropping the apple core in the garbage as you did so.
“How is this not our problem?” You crossed your arms, looking towards where the files once were.
“Remember when Fury asked us to join his uh, boyband thing?” Tony waved his arms through the air as if replaying the memory.
“Yes.”
“Well, I told him we wouldn’t do it,” Tony muttered, walking over to the bar to pour himself a drink.
“You what?!” You stomped over to him, taking the glass out of his hands and placing it harshly on the marble countertop, “Tony! You swore that as Iron Man you’d be this, ‘protector of mankind’ or some shit. And then the opportunity comes up for you to become a legit superhero and you say no? And you decide this for me too?”
“It’s not that big of a deal, Y/N-”
You cut him off, “It is a huge deal. Tony, listen, you gave yourself this amazing opportunity to help people - you’re world known, for god’s sake. I don’t have any special abilities or the brains to do what you do - I’’m just me,” you lowered your voice slightly, knowing you were getting to him, “This Avengers thing was my only chance at getting to help people, I wanted to do it.”
Tony sighed dramatically and you internally grinned, knowing your guilt-tripping had done it for him.
“Fine, fine,” he walked over to the place where all the files had been set up and pulled them up again, “This is what we’re dealing with.”
You looked everything over, seeing some familiar names and faces of the people who were going to be your teammates. Natasha Romanoff, the woman who turned out to be one of the world’s deadliest assassins after convincing you she was just some secretary, and Steve Rogers, the man who your father had never shut his goddam mouth about.
“Of course,” you pointed your finger to Steve Rogers, “Dad’s prized possession.”
Tony groaned, rolling his eyes at seeing the man’s name. Your father had talked about Rogers as if he were sent to Earth by God himself - sculpted by the brains of your dad, of course. You hadn’t taken it to heart completely, but you knew how much Tony despised the man. You didn’t blame him. Throughout your entire childhood, Tony wanted to build a father-son bond, wanting nothing more than to spend quality time and enjoy activities together. Which is why he took it so hard when your father spoke of Rogers as if he was the most precious being in his life.
“So, what are we doing, Tony? Do we contact Fury? Coulson?” you placed your hands on your hips, eyeing the video of the suspected ‘Loki’ holding a glowing blue cube and quite the extravagant staff in the other hand.
“Good question, call Coulson,” he clicked his tongue, walking over to the couch behind him and flopping his body down with a thump.
Rolling your eyes, you pulled your phone out of your back pocket and scrolled through your contacts, finger landing on Agent Phil Coulson. You couldn’t remember ever entering his number or even asking for it, but Fury had a way of hacking into your devices so you were well equipped with emergency contacts. Clicking his number, the phone started to ring and Coulson’s voice greeted you through the receiver.
“So, the Starks are on board.”
-
The helicarrier was quite the sight. Engines that could easily over power that of a commercial jet and bodies rushing around checking on all the equipment on board, it was slightly overwhelming. Sure, growing up in the Stark family, you had seen your fair share of technology, but this was next level.
Tony rushed on inside to let Fury know the two of you had arrived as you stayed out on the deck, captivated by the hustle and bustle of the people around you.
“A bit different than your Manhattan apartment, huh?”
You turned around to face the voice and found a smirking Natasha Romanoff walking up to you with her arms crossed.
“I’d say,” you grinned, “You’d think I’d be used to this by now, the technology stuff.”
She shrugged, looking around at the jets parked near the two of you, “I don’t think anyone could really get used to this.”
Conversation stopped between the two of you as you looked on towards where a group of men ran by in formation, resembling that of boot camp.
“This looks familiar,” another unfamiliar voice came up to the two of you and it belonged to none other than Steve Rogers. You smiled kindly up at the man, part of you glad that Tony wasn’t here at the moment.
“Steve Rogers,” you stuck out your hand, “We haven’t had the chance to meet yet. Y/N.” You specifically left out your last name, knowing that he had no idea who you were anyways. To avoid an awkward, uncomfortable greeting, your first name would have to do.
“Seems you already know my name so my introduction is unnecessary,” Steve shook your hand firmly, and you could almost feel the unease radiating off of him. Of course he was uneasy. He’s from the 40′s, duh.
“Anywho, I’ve got to go in and check up with Fury, catch you later,” you politely smiled at them and made your way towards the door Tony went in before.
Walking into the main control room was bright, to put it into one word. The large glass wall took up most of the room, giving you a view of everything on the ground. You hadn’t even taken off yet but you knew it would be quite the sight from the air.
“Y/N Stark,” Fury’s booming voice dragged your attention to him, “Welcome to our little sky-home.”
“It’s something,” you walked over to him with a smile on your face, “Hey Maria.” You greeted the brunette woman standing next to him, being unfortunately drowned out by the sound of the engines roaring to life.
Steve, Natasha and another man walked into the room and sat around a large glass table as the Helicarrier took off from the ground. You made your way over to the unfamiliar third man and stuck your hand out.
“I’m Y/N. You’re...?”
“Um, Banner,” the guy seemed unsure of his own name, but was probably more weary about everything going on around him, “Bruce Banner.”
The name clicked in your head and your eyes widened, “Oh! Right! The green anger thing - that’s cool.” Of course you had heard of Bruce Banner and the infamous Hulk, it was pretty damn cool if you had to admit.
He awkwardly nodded at your comment and sat down next to Natasha as the gigantic ship lifted off the ground with a bumpy start. Fury stood guard in the center of the control room, making sure everything was going smoothly.
“We’re at lock, sir,” Maria’s voice was the first to speak after a couple of silent moments. As silent as you could get for a massive take off, that is.
“Good, let’s vanish,” Fury stated and you almost chuckled at how dramatically he delivered the sentence. He walked back over to the table right as Steve stood up, amazement clear on his face as he took in all of the surroundings for the first time. He walked up to Fury and handed him a ten dollar bill, not saying anything else as he walked over to the windows. You let out a small laugh, lifting your feet and resting them on the edge of the glass table, earning you an eye roll from Fury.
“Doctor, thank you for coming,” Fury greeted Banner, who seemed to have an awestruck look on his face as well but he played it off as he faced Fury.
“Thanks, uh, how long am I staying?” Banner asked.
Fury let out a small sigh, “Until we get our hands on the tesseract.”
“And, uh, where are you with that, exactly?” You asked, speaking up for the first time in a while. Fury turned around and pointed to a computer.
“Well,” he began, “We’re sweeping out every wirelessly accessible camera on the planet. Phones, laptops - if it’s connected to satellites, it’s eyes and ears for us.”
You scoffed, “Invasion of privacy much? What if someone’s got a camera in the room when they’re having s-”
"It’s still not going to find him in time,” Natasha spoke up from next to another computer, ignoring your comment.
“Yeah, who’s him, by the way?” You asked, feeling slightly stupid, but you hadn’t really done your research before rushing over here, “It said Loki - but is it like, Norse Asgardian God Loki? Or like, just some regular-ass Scandinavian guy?”
Fury sighed, clearly fed up with your behaviour, “Yes - Loki. From another world.” He then instructed Natasha to show Banner to his lab and the two of them left without another comment, leaving you standing there with even more questions if that was possible.
Phil Coulson entered the room and immediately rushed over to where Steve was standing. Clearly a fan of Captain America. You stared out the window as you processed everything in your head, wondering how the literal hell you guys were supposed to beat a God. A God.
You pulled out your phone and miraculously, the helicarrier had wifi. You pulled up Google and started looking into the mystical God of Loki. Some pretty weird results came up, but nothing really linked in with each other, so you put your phone away and let yourself find the information out first hand.
You weren’t really sure where Tony had buggered off to, only really noticing now that he wasn’t around, but he was bound to come scrambling back making a scene any moment now. He had said he was going to meet up with Fury.
“We got a hit,” a voice came up from the corner of the room catching everyone’s attention and making your previous thoughts vanish, “67 percent match. Weight - cross match, 79 percent match.”
“Location?” Phil Coulson took his attention away from his beloved Steve Rogers long enough to voice everyone’s question.
“Uh,” the man clicked a bunch of buttons until a location popped up, “Stuttgart, Germany. He’s not exactly hiding.”
You eyed the video and saw the man who you believed to be Loki walking down a long staircase. He was right about the ‘not hiding’ bit. Loki, dressed in a loose-fitting suit, carried the same large staff you had seen in the previous picture. His long, dark, greasy hair stuck out in little points and the man looked like he had seen the deepest pits of Hell. Dark sunken eyes and a pale complexion, he would stick out of a crowd like a sore thumb.
Fury turned to face you and Steve, “You’re up. The two of you. Go.”
You raised your arms in defence, “Ha, uh, no. I don’t do the field work, Fury.”
He glared you down with his one eye but you didn’t budge, “There’s a man out there ready to take over the world and you’re going to - what? Sit here and twiddle your thumbs like an ape?”
You scoffed, “No. I’ll just -” You stopped talking when you realized you actually had no idea what you were going to do. Of course, you were here to help save the world and all that jazz, but you had never experienced really working on the field. Only when Tony needed to be saved
“Fine, I’ll go with Rogers.”
“Suits are in room 11A and 11B,” Fury shouted at the two of your before you made your way towards the door.
You walked out of the room with Steve, who walked with such strut you had to rush slightly to keep up. At the end of a long hallway, he turned into the last door - 11B - and in the center of the room in a glass case was the Captain America suit.
“Spandex? What are we, a sex shop?” You joked, Steve responding with a dry chuckle. You rolled your eyes and walked over to the suit with him, opening the case with a dramatic gust. You looked around for anything else that could be stashed away in the room - any interesting gadgets or deadly toys.
Tony had built you a suit - nothing like his Iron Man one, but one that could sustain a bullet and wouldn’t burn in the unlikely case that someone threw a flamethrower at you. He designed it after you nearly got shot saving him from some crazed psycho. Of course, he hated putting you in danger with his life choice so you agreed to letting him protect you with what he was best at - technology.
You excused yourself and let Steve gear up as you went to 11A. Just like the other room, your suit was encased in a glass tube-shaped container in the center. You walked over to it and as if it had sensed your arrival, it opened up in the same dramatic noise.
The heavy black bodysuit stood perched on a mannequin and you immediately brought it down, not wanting to waste anytime before rushing off to Germany. You put the suit on, tightening it to the max so you were comfortable and secure. Slipping on the heavy duty combat boots that you had never worn before, you felt ready to go to battle.
You probably weren’t going to have any sort of impact, but you felt ready. That’s what matters, right?
Walking out of the room as you tied your hair into a ponytail, you caught up with Steve and the two of you made your way towards the jet. The long walk there was silent apart from the heavy sound of the two of you stepping in unison.
The jet was parked and open, ready for takeoff as the man sitting in the pilot’s seat gave a thumbs up upon seeing the two of you arriving. You made your way onto the jet and wondered if Tony knew you were heading off to go find the intergalactic maniac with Steve Rogers. You should probably send him a text but Fury was bound to inform everyone to head over to the same location, right?
The back door of the jet closed as the two of you strapped yourselves down and within seconds, you were off the helicarrier and off to save the day in Germany.

Angel On Fire - Intro
Tumblr media
Warnings: break ups, pain, emotional stress, ETC
Pairings: Bucky Barnes X Reader ; Thorin X Reader ; Marvel x reader x Hobbit
(A/N) So I've been working on this for a very long time in honor of making 3K followers. I want to thank you all so much for hanging with me and giving me the encouragement i needed to help me start writing again. I really, really hope you like this cause its something I've wanted to do for a while now connecting two of my favorite fandoms. The Marvel universe and the Hobbit universe. Please tell me what you think of it. I will be uploading a new chapter of it everyday since i have most of it written. Please comment and tell me what you think. Love you all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“(Name), I think we should take some time.” Bucky says catching me off guard as I stop making dinner my hands hovering over what I had been cooking. The scent of simmering Kielbasa filling the air. “I know this comes completely out of left field; but-”
“Don’t,” I interject as I turn the stove off and move to the other end of the room to meet his eyes. “Don’t sugarcoat it, just tell me why?”
“I…” He pauses his eyes glancing downward unable to meet my gaze.
“It’s about her isn’t it?” I ask bringing my arms up to fold them over my chest as I try to hold back the tears.
“(Name)…” Bucky says trying to steer the conversation.
“I’m right, aren’t I?” I scoff to myself. It was no surprise that Bucky had been spending more time with Natasha. They had a history anyway. A history I could never even fathom to understand. He goes to answer but I stop him by holding my hand up at him. “You don’t have to explain. Um, I’m going to go. Dinner was almost done; so, please don’t waste it.” I walk away from him and reaching the door, I grab my coat, wallet, and phone; before I step through the doorway and out into the night air.
A part of me wished he’d come after me, but I knew he wouldn’t. I keep walking tears stinging as they stream down my cheeks. My mind races as I think about all the good times the two of us had had together. I had loved him. I’d never told him since he never said the words to me either. We started dating after we spent a passionate night together, and the more we were together the closer we got. He told me his fears and secrets as I told him my own. I thought he loved me back. Apparently, I was wrong.
I pause on the street corner unsure of where I was to go now when a noise caught my ears. At first it sounded like a screech and then the clanking of metal followed making me narrow my eyes. Suddenly, like I was in a trance, I felt myself being pulled toward the noise. My feet started moving on their own as I crossed the street. I see a mysterious figure in the darkness and before I can see it clearly, I feel my legs being pulled out from under me as the world disappears into a pool of blackness.
A scream escapes my lips as I feel air rush past me. I look around trying to find anything to grab onto, but my eyes found nothing amongst the abyss. Suddenly a form appears against the blackness making me stare wide eyed as it moves downward with me its hand outstretched towards me. As it’s hand wraps around my throat I feel my throat close as it suddenly becomes hard to breathe. I reach back toward the being to try to touch it, to fight against it but my hands just pass through it, a mist-like texture grazing my fingertips.
Dark spots feel my eyes as I start to feel consciousness slip through my fingers. Before I lose all consciousness, I unexpectedly feel the soft grassy ground beneath my body knocking out what little air I had left. As I start to drift away, I hear loud voices and what was I smelling? Oak trees?
Will Continue in Chapter 1
What in the actual hell were you going to do now? Your brain was racing but your body felt still. You wanted to curl up into a ball. But instead, you stood up. And to top it off, worst of all…
“That can’t be…it’s…it’s only been a few short days. You can’t fall in love in a few days!” you retorted after Mobius explained it.
“I saw it in his face. Insisted I called him by her name…Forget him. Leave them. He found someone he’s crazy about. And they’re going to do some crucial, multiverse saving business. Why should it matter…. sit back and relax!” Mobius suggested.
He was right. You should leave him. He earned it. Bastard. And if you did find him, you’d drag him by the ear back home. Then kill him. You wished you could throw him off the remains of the Rainbow Bridge all over again and have him fall to the oblivion of space.
But he…he could still get hurt. Or killed. Yes, he was a god- but even gods had weaknesses.
You began to pace around. Walking through the halls. Things seemed empty- wouldn’t someone note your odd clothes and say something? Whatever. Less trouble for you.
You came across some desks with paper. You grabbed a pencil. Writing out your options.
Leave Loki and Sylvie to make out and then rot.
Find Loki and throw him off a cliff in Midgard.
Find Loki and try to bring him back.
The first option would be satisfying. Just run from it all. Start a life on Midgaurd, even. You wouldn’t have to face home. And the constant reminders of him in the palace.
The second option only hurt a little. You would no doubt see him with her. That would hurt. How could you face him? You wanted his happiness. He more than deserved it. But he’d smile and be happy with someone who wasn’t you. And you’d see it. Though would make the latter part better. Even if he was tall, seeing his lean frame billowing over and trying to magick out of it. You could then stab him with your blade.
But…what did he owe you? Love? He was your friend all your life. He owed you nothing. He wasn’t your lover. Only in your dreams. But…that was being possessive. That wasn’t good. It wasn’t like Loki owed you anything. He didn’t. He wasn’t your lover. He never even suggested the idea once. What if, for example, Thor himself ran to you and demanded you love him? Would it be fair if you refused, and he forced you into his arms, a marriage altar, and bed?
No, it wasn’t okay when the roles were reversed. Loki owed you nothing.
If you brought him back, he’d reunite with her eventually. Or she would go with him. Who could resist Loki’s intelligence, beauty, and charms? Then Sylvie would stay in Asgaurd! Norns, how could you stand even being in the same room with them, much less living with them? And you didn’t even know what she looked like?
The third option stared at you. You wanted to tear it up. Ignore it for the above choices.
But you owed Frigga her son.
You made a promise to Frigga. You could imagine the look on her face when you returned. When you had to announce that you failed her son. That you failed her.
But wait…you didn’t fail her. You hadn’t failed her…at least not yet! You could still do it. All you had to do was find Loki and return him home. That was it. Then you could quit your station and find some other place to live. Some place away from the castle. Away from him. And try to make yourself glad he was at least happy.
And then, you’d forget that charming, mischievous prince.
You ran back to Mobius.
“Take me there! Take me to the end of the world! I’m continuing my quest and bringing him back…Because I care about him…” you declared.
He nodded. A kind hand of his patted your shoulder. His smile was sad.
“I…I do too.”
“So point me where he is…”
☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚:⠀ *⋆.*:・゚ .: ⋆*・゚: .⋆
You reached the End of the World. After an hours walk, you finally found the place Mobius described without a scuffle. The palace hall was easy to get into, much to your surprise. There were no guards. A purple light drenched you as you walked down that long hall. White walls loomed over your head like they would swallow you.
“Ah! Y/N! knew you would be here!” announced a theatrical voice from above.
You jumped and got out a dagger.
“Who are you?” you asked.
Looking around, you saw and sensed no one.
“The One at the end of all time. Friends call me Kang,” he replied (the voice sounded masculine).
“Kang…are you trying to kill me?” you asked, gripping the hilt.
“Oh- nononononno! I have a guess what you’re here for! I do love a guest! So tell me-what brings you here to my house?” he asked.
“No, I’m looking for Loki,” you explained.
Holding the dagger up, you walked forward.
“Which one?”
“What do you mean?” you asked incredulously.
“There’s quite a lot of Loki’s out there-haven’t you heard? Be specific- which. One. What does he look like?”  he interviewed.
“The one with long dark hair!”
You glanced backwards and searched the walls. There was no one.
“Good looking?” the voice asked.
“I won’t answer that?”
“Is. He. Good. Looking?” the voice insisted.
You felt your stomach turn to butterflies as you admitted “Uh- yes!”
“Oh, so the president!” he figured from above. He echoed down the hall.
“President?! What do you mean??  No! The prince! Golden helmet with giant horns! The one who likes green!” you specified.
You wouldn’t think of the green covered editions of books you’d give him on his birthday. And You wouldn’t think of the birthday gifts he gave to you either of little rings and necklaces. Things that made you feel pretty at banquets. Or the time he got your flowers that brightened your room. Or shoes when your old ones wore out from training…no, you couldn’t.
“Oh, that one…look at you squirm. And just listen to your voice! Loki might not know. But I do!”
“Know what?” you asked in fake innocence.
“Awww, poor little Y/N! Just can’t compete next to Sylvie, can you? Nothing like a broken heart!”
“Shut up!” you yelled back.
You waved around the dagger.
“Take me to him right now or I’ll find you and stab you!” you threatened.
“They say hell hath no fury like a woman scorned-that’s why you’re going to find it? Cut him into ribbons? Scoop out her stomach?
‘I don’t want to harm him. I don’t want to harm either of them! I just want to bring him back home! His mother’s orders!” you explained.
You picked up to reach the end further. There must be a door somewhere. Even a hidden one.
“He IS here, Y/N…He’s here with me right now!”
“Can he hear you? US?” you cried in a panic.
“No- would you like me to tell him about our little conversation?”
“NO!”
Your steps faltered. You paused to catch your breath. Kang began to laugh.
“Please! Take me to him, Kang! Queen’s insistence!” you ordered.
“Why don’t you waltz over forward! Would love to meet you! I’m sure he’s too moony-eyed over Sylvie to remember you. And here- have the most PERFECT song to go along! It’s from Carmen. It’s a story about a little girl. She falls in love with a childhood friend. But alas! The friend falls in love with another woman- that Carmen who’s too much to resist! She runs home crying with a broken heart. Then his mother sends her off to find him and bring him home. Sound familiar, Y/N? How I do love all those little human operas!”
Your own system picked it up. You heard it as you kept running. Each step closer to him. As the song rumbled around you, it’s translation to your tongue entered your brain. Languages fascinated you, particularly the French language from Midgard. You bit back your tongue and tears form how it spoke to you.
“I will soon come close to that woman,
Whose accursed means
Have ended up by inflaming
The man I once loved.
She is dangerous, she is beautiful,
But I do not want to be afraid,
No, no, I don't want to have fear,
I will speak loudly in front of her!”
You walked down the hall. Your heart hammering in your chest.
Finally, there was a door. You thought you heard voices.
And his voice. Loki’s.
That one voice. The voice you heard for years. The voice who would ask careful questions next to Thor’s bravado bragging. The voice who confided in you of his jealousy for his brother, of his fear of being unable to live up. The voice who you told of your fear of failing as an Asgardian warrior. Who you traded books and looked up at the stars with and…
Was there…there arguing? And then shuffles-blades hitting blades- the sounds of a fight.
No, no more hesitation. You were not trained to sit and let others go about. To indulge in passivity. You were trained to take action, rather than have your thoughts consume you. Or your heart. You would power through and move on.
You opened the door. It was quite a cozy room. How you would have loved to drink wine and relax with a book from its high shelves. There was a fireplace and bookshelves high up to the ceiling. But it was dark. The mahogany furniture needed dusting.
But a sudden grunt and the sound of a blade on blade brought your eyes up. Your voice cried out.
“Loki- I-"
He was kissing a woman.
The world froze. You couldn’t look and yet you had to look. They were kissing. No, she was kissing him. But what did it matter- they were kissing. You felt your stomach drop. A dread chill ran through you. He was stiff, but not rejecting it.
You could not endure it. No no no no no no.
You swallowed hard. Your eyes looked on as if seeing a person’s execution in front of you. It was so awful and yet you could not retract your eyes from the sight.
You wanted to kill him. You wanted to kill her. You wanted them both stabbed with your daggers.
He turned. He stared at you in…in surprise. His jaw dropping and his eyes wide, then squinting. His face was paler than normal.
“Y/N…is…is that really you?” you said.
The woman- no, Sylvie- turned to you. How she would have reacted to you, you didn’t know. But to your surprise, it was not one of smugness, of pride, of triumph. Her face was neutral. Her eyes steeled to a desk before them.
But a gentleman at the desk stood up from a chair.
“Why-isn’t this PERFECT! This is a movie writing itself! I should get the popcorn!” he announced.
You turned and saw it was the same voice as before. A gentleman with a wicked smile and long, grandiose purple robes like a king. You took a step forward, your voice urging you to speak “Prince Loki, I have been ordered by Queen Frigga to return you to Asgard.”
You never got the chance to say that.
It then all happened so fast you hardly knew what. Maybe the kiss made you numb to react or fight.
But the woman ran up to the man, stabbed him. He yelped. You gasped. Your own- no, he was never yours. Loki ran forward.
Then she pulled the blade out. His corpse fell over.
Loki ran to her. She smiled, then with a flick of her wrist magicked a portal. She pushed the prince of Asgard through.
“NO!” you screamed.
Making a sprint, you jumped forward, grabbed him, arms around, and both of you fell through. Lights flashed by you- more colors- like the rainbow bridge of home but swallowing you. But you held onto him. No matter what. You would not let go.
Both of you landed with a thud. You panted hard. And then let him go. He then looked up. His hair wild and his face dirtied over his ivory face. He blinked as you let him go.
“Y/N! What…what in…” he wondered.
Giving a handsome grin, he then greeted you with a tight hug.
“I…I thought I’d never see you again! Ever! Oh, gods above. I’m so relieved…relieved you’re alive!” he said.
“Relieved I’m alive?” you repeated.
Alarms went off in the office.
“Loki-who was that man? What were you doing here?”
He raised an eyebrow.
“Well, I might ask the same. What are you doing here?”
You felt yourself frown. Your fists curled up by your sides.
“You…you vanished! You giant dumbass-Then you attempted an entire invasion of Midgaurd! Frigga and Thor and I got worried sick!!!I didn’t even know if you would live or what would happen!” you ranted.
He put his head down, hands on his hips. He muttered as he raised his eyes to you.
“Listen, I-“
You wished you could have slapped him, but instead you grabbed his arms. You looked into those blue eyes as clear and bright as a fresh spring. Your lips were close. But instead, you yelled at his face.
“No, YOU listen! Frigga sent me to find you! I had to look everywhere! Traveled all over the world and this one too!”
He blinked and his jaw clenched.
“I tore through space and time, searched everywhere, and I was told…I was told that…”
No, you wouldn’t bring her up. Not her. Not now. But you let him go. You wiped off a tear on your sleeve. Alarms began to go off. Both of you jumped and looked above.
“She did it-Sylvie did it…”
“Killing Kang?” you asked.
Other than make out with you, was the bitter reply on your tongue.
“She...she opened all the multiverse.”
“The What?”
“Multiple universes. Alternative timelines, sacred timelines. It’s a long story. My dear Y/N, I’ll have to explain it to you later…”
Fighting the urge to smile at “my dear”, you let him go. Alarms then pierced the air, shrieking. His curls whipped around him as he looked about. TVA members were running.
“Anything need our immediate attention, Loki? You need to go back!” you said.
“I’m…I’m not sure…they might need me…” he reasoned.
You placed your hands on your hips.
“Could you at least make a trip back home to your mother first? I’ve been on this stupid quest to bring you back for ages!” you scolded.
He sighed.
“Fine then, I will…only…Y/N, let me ask you something….”
He crossed his arms.
“How are we going to get back to Midgaurd? If the Bifrost was back as normal- we’d ask Heimdall and we’d be back for Father to scold at me in no time…but now…”
As if on cue like an actor, Mobius ran right around.
“Oh my god- the TVA is on fire! Where-“
He paused, his feet skidding as he halted. Then looked between you two.
“Oh- hello there! Welcome!”
“Mobius-Mobius, please-she did it. She killed Kang. The sacred timeline is open-everything is haywire!”
He blinked but then nodded. You turned to him.
“Is it crucial? Do you need him?” you asked.
Mobius tilted his head.
“Who are you?”
Loki’s jaw dropped. You turned to your companion.
“They must have…must have rearranged his memory.”
“They can do that?” you asked.
His eyes looked around. Then he smiled. He grabbed your arms and held your wrists from behind you.
“Yes…but maybe that’s to our advantage, Y/N,” he confided into your ear.
You heard his breath. You felt his body from behind you. Beneath your armor and clothes, you sweated.
“What do you mean?” you asked.
“Follow my lead…” he instructed.
He put his chin forward. He grabbed your shoulder.
“See sir- I am an agent. Taking this variant away! We must return her to her proper timeline right away…it’s urgent!” he ordered.
Mobius smiled, nodding his head.
“Oh! Very good! Well- where should she be?” Mobius asked.
Loki glanced at you. The word formed out of you in a faint whisper.
“Asg-“
“ASGAURD! Of course!” Loki interrupted.
“Well then- can’t take her there yet! A lot of our devices for Asgard broke!”
“Then…take us to…to…” he fumbled in his “official” voice.
“Midgaurd,” you whispered.
“MIDGAURD! Take us to Midgaurd to transport her there-there’s a connection, the thundering type.”
You bolted your head down and bit the inside of your cheek in fake guilt.
“Well then! To that Midgaurd place! We’ll be glad to take you both there!”
☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚:⠀ *⋆.*:・゚ .: ⋆*・゚: .⋆
In a flash of light, you were back there. A bridge and a bright light. Turning your head, you saw there it was- New York City in it’s beautiful, if not glorious, skyline. You managed to get a taxi and get to the Avengers headquarters in no time. Though, thank the norns, most strangers did not gape that you had their invader right at your heels.
You ran into the main parlor and kitchen of the Avengers tower.
“Thor? Thor-where are you?” you called out.
But there was no reply. You turned around.
“We can wait a while…he might be back…” Loki said.
This close. But it was almost done. Your quest was finally ending!
He stumbled over and then sat on a chair. He looked up at you.
“You know…I did miss you…and I have to tell you…tell you everything I learned. What happened…” he said.
You looked over and noticed his arm. How different he looked. His shirt though stained with his sweat, with two tears at the back was tantalizingly tight. And that wasn’t getting onto how well his pants fit him. The robes back home didn’t show what a nice shape he had. Not to mention how the sleeves were rolled up were making you think unprofessional, unfocused thoughts.
But your eye went up…to a cut on his arm.
“Loki- your arm. It’s bleeding…it’s still gushing out!”
He looked over and touched it with his long fingers.
“Oh! That!” he cried.
“Here…let me take care of it!” you insisted.
“No, it’s fine-“ he shrugged.
“You’re bleeding, Loki! Let me!”
Looking around, you found a first aid kit. You rolled up more of the sleeve.
Norns, his bicep was so strong, those could wrap around you at night as he kisses you and…no, Y/N! Focus! You ordered yourself.
You took out cotton swabs and applied alcohol to them. He winced at the pain.
“You always go on so much.  Always focused on the goal…not even taking care of yourself. It’s a miracle you’re still alive, ” you tsked.
He tilted his head to the side again. His mouth scrunched to one side. Then he leaned closer to you.
“Well, you’re one to talk! If I recall correctly- I wasn’t the one lying on the bed with a broken leg for two weeks!” he replied.
You paused. Smiling, you looked up to meet him.
“No, but you did appear to read to me! See…you always took care of me…now let me take care of you…” you insisted.
Once he adjusted to the sting of the alcohol, he relaxed under your fingers. You took a fresh cotton swab to tap on the cut.
“How did you get this one?” you asked.
“That was from Sylvie’s dagger, Y/N.”
You felt your stomach sour at her name. You turned your eyes to the bandages. It made the sentence easier.
“Mobius told me You love her…” you said.
“Yes.”
You kept your head down. That way, he wouldn’t see how you were keeping your jaw tight. Pushing back tears. No longer looking at him as you heard his beautiful voice. Trying to look for a fresh bandage as a focus exercise. You found one and peeled off the adhesive.
“I fought with her. Fell for her…and then she left me.”
“She kissed you.”
“And then…then abandoned me…I did everything for her and …she left…”
You placed the bandage over his cut. Smoothing it out.
“There…much better…” you finished.
“Well, do you know a bandage for a broken heart?” he asked.
You think YOUR heart is broken? You wanted to yell at him. But the words, like bile, you kept inside. You folded your hands. Still looking down.
“No…I don’t…”
“Y/N…I need some time alone to process this…I’m sorry but she…I loved her and…and it wasn’t enough…” he said.
You nodded. He walked off, vanishing behind a door. Finally alone, you let a few tears begin to drip down your face.
Neither was I for you, you thought.
Just a forewarning, this one has a major POV shift from the past entries, since Reader was Dusted at the end of Fidelity! Keeping with my recent trend in fic titles, it’s named after a track on the official soundtrack. I also constantly watch this Video, and recommend it to hype you up!
When we arrived back at the Avengers Compound, Tony was already hard at work assembling the Quantum Tunnel that we would need for our “Time Heist”. Bruce and Rocket quickly went to work helping, and its assembly did not take long after they had began.
Thor and I came to take a look at it, and Tony was dragging a cart full of material through the room to the Tunnel.
“Drifting left.” Tony warned, walking around Thor and I. “On the side there, Lebowski. How’s it going, Ratchet?”
“It’s Rocket.” The raccoon insisted as he tightened down some bolts. “Take it easy, you’re only a genius on Earth, pal.”
“Well we’re trying to test this sucker out today, so I want to finish.” Tony prodded in return. “You almost done?”
“Yeah.” Rocket sighed. “Woulda been done earlier if jolly green giant hadn’t ditched to go work on ant-guy’s suit.”
“I hope this works.” I mumbled, not intending anyone to hear me.
“Me too.” Tony agreed.
A few hours later, Barton walked onto the Tunnel’s platform in his Quantum Suit. Most of us had gathered around to watch, but Thor had chosen to remain uninvolved for the time being.
“Clint, now you’re gonna feel a little discombobulated from the chronoshift.” Bruce warned, prepping the tunnel to activate. “Don’t worry about it.”
Clint nodded, taking his place.
“Alright, Clint.” Bruce said, “We’re going in three… two… one!”
A helmet that resembled Scott’s popped into place on Clint’s head, and he promptly disappeared through the tunnel. In a matter of seconds, Clint rematerialized on the glass platform, breathing heavily and laying face down.
“Hey, hey, look at me.” Natasha said as she ran to him, assisting him in sitting up. “You okay?”
Barten held up a baseball glove with a small smile. “Yea, it worked. It worked.”
“Now all that’s left is to figure out where and when to get the stones.” Tony laughed.
“Let’s figure that out now.” Steve said, “Everyone, to the conference room.”
We all made our way to the conference room, my brother included. We all took our seats, and the screens above the table showed the images and information that they had about each of the infinity stones. Tony, Steve, and Bruce stood at the front of the table, taking the lead in organizing and planning.
“Okay, so the ‘how’ works. Now we gotta figure out the when and the where.” Steve said. “Almost all of us have had an encounter with at least one of the six infinity stones.”
“Well I’d substitute the word encounter for damn well near been killed by one of the six infinity stones.” Tony proposed sarcastically.
“I haven’t!” Scott pointed out, “I don’t even know what the hell you’re all talking about!”
“Regardless, we only have enough Pym Particles for one round trip each, and these stones have been in a lot of different places throughout history.” Bruce said, gesturing to the images of the stones.
“Our history.” Tony clarified. “So, not a lot of convenient spots to just drop in.”
“Which means we have to pick our targets.” Clint added.
“Correct.” Tony confirmed.
“Let’s start with the Aether.” Steve said. “Thor, Loki, what do you know?”
Thor did not rise from his spot in the corner, sunglasses shading his closed eyes.
“Is he asleep?” Natasha asked.
“No.” Rhodey said rolling his eyes. “I’m pretty sure he’s dead.”
I groaned, nudging Thor to wake him, and reminded him of what we had to do.
“Where to start? Umm... The Aether, first, is not a stone, someone called it a stone before. It's more of a... and angry sludge thing, so... someones gonna need to amend that. Here's an interesting story though, many years ago...My grandfather had to hide the stones from the Dark Elves…” Thor wiggled his hands around, and I audibly sighed, closing my eyes. “Wooooh, scary beings. So Jane,” He gestured to the screen as her photo appeared, “Oh, there she is. That's Jane... She's... an old flame of mine... She... she stuck her hand inside a rock this one time... and then the Aether stuck itself inside her... And, she became very, very sick. So I had to take her to Asgard, which is where I'm from. And we had to try and fix her. We were dating at the time, you see. I got to introduce her to my Mother... who's dead…” Thor trailed off, his broken emotions pushing their way through again, “and oh you know, Jane and I aren't even dating anymore, these things happen though you know, nothing last forever,” Tony and I attempted to direct him back to his chair, and he brushed us both off, insisting that he finish his ranting. “I'm not done yet, the only thing permanent in life is impermanence.”
Tony and I finally managed to stop Thor’s continued rambling, Tony suggesting some breakfast for him.
“Awesome.” Tony said, “Eggs?”
“No, I’d like a Bloody Mary, thank you.” Thor grinned, causing me to roll my eyes.
“What I believe my brother meant to say is that the Aether is a volatile stone. It is not always in stone form, as he sort of explained, and in 2013 during my captivity in Odin’s dungeons, his girlfriend Jane Foster became the Aether’s host body, similar to the way that (Y/N) and Danvers host the Space Stone’s power. Jane was kept in Asgard to help her during that time, so it would be best to retrieve the Aether from that time and place since Jane poses no great threat.”
“Perfect.” Tony said, “Thor, Rocket, you guys can get on that. What about the purple one?”
“Can we move into the lounge?” Thor mumbled, “These chairs aren’t very comfortable.”
“Quill said he stole the power stone from Morag.” Rocket said as we all moved to the sofas and chairs.
“Is that a person?” Scott asked, beginning to eat the take-out that Natasha had ordered.
“Morag’s a planet.” Rocket clarified. “Quill was a person.”
“A planet?” Scott asked, excited. “Like in outer space?”
“Oh, look. It’s like a little puppy, all happy and everything.” Rocket said, mocking Lang. “Do you wanna go to space? You wanna go to space, puppy? I’ll take you to space.”
After the meal had been finished, Natasha began writing down notes for our plan.
“Thanos found the Soul Stone on Vormir.” Nebula said.
“What is Vormir?” Natasha asked, writing on her notepad.
“A dominion of death, at the very center of Celestial existence.” Nebula continued. “It’s where… Thanos murdered my sister.”
Natasha wrote down what Nebula had said, and the room remained quiet for a moment.
“Not it.” Scott said, intimidated by Nebula’s description.
“What about the other three?” Steve asked. “When is the best point to grab those?”
“Are we even going to be able to get the Time stone?” Tony asked, “It took a lot to get Strange to give it up five years ago, and that was when people were being attacked right in front of him.”
“I’m not sure.” Steve trailed off.
One by one, people left to get some sleep. Eventually, only Tony, Natasha, Bruce, and myself remained to brainstorm.
“That Time Stone guy…” Natasha began.
“Doctor Strange.” Bruce answered.
“Yeah, what kind of doctor was he?” She asked.
“Neurostuff meets rabbit from a hat.” Tony replied. “Nice place in the village, though.”
“Yeah. Sullivan Street.” Bruce said, “Hmm… Bleeker.”
“Wait, Strange lived in New York?” I asked, sitting upright.
“No, he lived in Toronto.” Tony quipped.
“If we pick the right year, there are three stones in New York.” I said, “Two of them in my posession.”
“Shut the front door!” Bruce exclaimed, sitting up.
“But who goes to get which ones?” Tony asaked, “How do we divvy up the teams?”
“Bruce, you should get the time stone.” I said, “You’ll have the easiest time getting across New York during the battle. Tony and Scott should retrieve the Tesseract. Steve can grab the scepter from the shield agents, and I’ll help him with that if needed. If it turns out that he doesn’t need me, I’ll come assist you and Scott.”
“Do we really have it all planned out now?” Natasha asked, smiling. “We can do this in the morning?”
“It would appear so.” I said, allowing myself a smile.
“Rest up, guys.” Tony said, walking to his room in the Compound. “We’ve got a big day coming up.”
As I walked to my room that night, I couldn’t help smiling. We were so close, so ready to reach out and take what we had been working so hard to achieve. In the morning we would be able to rectify and resolve the past five years of struggle.
My dreams intensified my joy, for the first time in years they might be a possibility. Even in the five years since the snap, my mind had never lost a bit of (Y/N). I could envision her perfectly, from the way her hair fell in her face when she was reading, to the way she would smirk before giving a smart remark. I dreamed of reuniting with her, and for the first time in years, I slept soundly.
In the morning, we all gathered and prepared to complete our mission. We all dressed in our Quantum suits, walking up to the Tunnel platform.
“Alright. We have a plan. Six stones, three teams. One shot.” Steve said as Bruce finished prepping the Tunnel for our trip. “Five years ago, we lost. All of us. We lost friends… We lost family… We lost a part of ourselves. Today, we have a chance to take it all back. You know your teams, you know your missions. Get the stones, get them back. One round trip each. No mistakes, no do-overs. Most of us are going somewhere we know, but it doesn't mean we should know what to expect. Be careful. Look out for each other. This is the fight of our lives. And we’re gonna win.”
Tony shot Steve a knowing look, smiling.
“Whatever it takes.” Steve continued. “Good luck.”
“He’s pretty good at that.” Rocket observed.
“Right?” Scott agreed, smiling.
“All right. You heard the man.” Tony said. “Stroke those keys, jolly green.”
“Tractors engaged.” Bruce said.
Rocket gestured to the shrunk Benatar that rested in Clint’s hand. “You promise to bring that back in one piece, right?”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.” Clint nodded, “Ok. I’ll do my best.”
“As far as promises go, that was pretty lame.” Rocket grumbled.
Natasha smiled to each of us as we stood in our positions. “See you in a minute.”
The countdown began, and we were all sucked into the Quantum tunnel.
Night Terrors (Loki x Reader) Part 7
Tumblr media
All your life you have lived with the strange ability to walk and manipulate the dreams of others. Your power helped you receive a job as a personal dream therapist for Tony Stark who eventually offered you the same position for the rest of his team at the Avenger’s tower. When you enter into Thor’s dream to pacify his nightmare he is impressed with your abilities and gives you a challenge: to help remedy his brother’s nightmares which are apparently a thousand times worse.
Loki x Reader
Words: 2,495
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6
A/N: You didn’t see that coming? I wish i could make a scrap book of your reactions i wanted to roll on the floor laughing
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
His eyes stared into yours for a moment, searching for validation. “Pardon…?” He whispered so softly it sounded almost as if he were taking a breath.  The tears didn’t stop trickling down your cheeks. God, you were telling him the truth but it still hurt so much.
“After you kept tricking me when we first met….I…I was so angry…” You started. You glued your eyes to your lap; you couldn’t bear to face him now.
“I wasn’t trying to….well…fuck…” You were sobbing now hard. “I was so angry…I just wanted to scare you in your dreams, it wasn’t going to be anything traumatizing I swear!  But when I walked in them… I saw you… and your father…” You continued. Your heart twinged in terror with each sentence you let pass your lips. You tore your eyes up from your lap.
“I saw what your father did…or…well what he was going to do, I had to jump out of the dream before I saw too much… It broke my heart. I kept doing it because I….I don’t even know why... but the third time I had to stop it… I couldn’t let you let yourself be…killed by him!!!” You were gripping tighter onto his hands now. “I’m sorry…I know I shouldn’t have done it… I was being petty and I…” Your breathing was rigid yet heavy as you saw his expression shift into something you never wanted to see.
“I see,” Loki spoke. “So I was your experiment, is that it?” he asked suddenly letting go of your hands.
“No, Loki that’s not what I wanted-”
“Or,” he stood up now swiftly from your bed taking himself away from you. Your eyes glanced at his fingertips which were quickly darkening to a blueish hue. “You wanted to hurt me because of a few silly games?!” He asked his voice shaking wildly like a shiver. “Which would you prefer to stand by Y/N? Do enlighten me!”
Your nails gripped into the palms of your hands as you looked away from him again. “No.” He growled taking a step towards you. “Now is not the time that you get to hide from me like all the times you did in my mind!” He shouted.
“I was only trying to help…” You sobbed.
“Did I ask you for help?!” He hissed causing you to wince at his words. “Because if I remember correctly, I specifically told you that I did not want it!” He threw a hand through his hair pacing angrily as if he were ready to lead a rampage across the entire compound.
“Loki please…” you whispered. He shot you a look that practically stabbed you thirty times in your chest. He had tears leaking down his face. His eyes were red already from crying. His expression tore you into a hundred pieces that could have been easily been blown away by a breeze.
“I bore my heart and soul to you!! I let down my barriers because I was foolish enough to think that you cared for me as much as I cared for you!! But you used me… you abused my love for you so that you could look into my mind like some sort of… witch!!”
“I-I’m not a witch…” you tried to choke out, despite feeling the complete opposite.
“YOU ARE A WITCH!” Loki screamed throwing his hands behind him. “You steal fears from others who are desperate to escape from them and then you throw their worst nightmares back into their faces with a force powerful enough to kill them on the ground of which they stand!!” He snarled. You recognized his expression now. It almost mirrored the same amount of hatred that his father had when he was ready to execute him.
He breathed heavily letting his hands fall at his side again limp. “I may be the god of mischief…” He whispered tears falling from his eyes again. “But I never once thought of tricking your heart as you did mine.” He muttered turning his back on you.
“Loki, I do love you..!” You got up from your bed finally taking his hand. It felt as if your hand had been stuck in ice for hours his cold demeanor quickly spreading up your arm like a shock.
“You don’t get to say that to me now.” He seethed. “You don’t get…..to say that now when you know my heart still longs for you…still aches for you… still loves you...” He whispered. He turned from you again leaving you in the emptiness of your room that was filling with silence.
The door slid closed and you felt yourself crash and burn in the place which you stood. The truth was out, you had nothing more to fear. The weight of your troubles was definitely lifted off your shoulder but the heartbreak that you saw in Loki’s eyes still clawed at your emotions like a wild animal. He said he still loved you, and you were certain you loved him too, but everything was different now.
Maybe you were a witch, did you even deserve to have the right to try and earn a place back with him? You had used his worst nightmares against him just as he said and now you felt as if you couldn’t think about him without wanting to burst into flames.
You sat on your bed, lost. You kept replaying the fight in your head. Was it really a fight? You knew you deserved all that he said to you and you tried not to retaliate. You knew you needed to be with him, but you didn’t know if you deserved to be with him or anyone. With a power like yours, everyone around you was made vulnerable, and you knew very well that no one liked to be vulnerable.
It wasn’t Thor or Loki who had gotten you from your room, it was Tony.
“Hey there dream eater, haven’t seen you in a few days,” He said slowly as he walked in. You hadn’t been out of your room for three days, you didn’t want to risk facing Loki in the compound.
“Yeah,” You said softly with a shrug. “Did you need a dream to consult?” You asked not wanting to waste time on the conversation. You swung your feet off the bed.
“Not exactly,” Tony said hands resting on his hips. “You see Y/N, that guy who knocked Thor out on his ass, we need to take him in.” He explained. “You’re the one person who understands his abilities since they’re practically your own.” He continued.
“Tony you know my powers aren’t meant to hurt,” You whispered bitterly. You were starting to second guess yourself since telling Loki the truth. “We just need someone to try and compete with him Y/N, fight fire with fire, if you don’t come…well, who knows, maybe all of us could be trapped in our nightmares.”
You watched him look at you intently. You sighed deciding to make yourself useful to the team for the first time in days.
“When are we going.” You asked already stepping out of your bed to start getting ready.
“As soon as you finishing freshening up dream eater,” Tony said a smile on his face happy to have won you over. “You’ll be taking the car with Nat, Banner, and Clint,” he explained. He put a hand on your shoulder. “Glad to have you on the team with us Y/N,” He gave you a genuine smile. He knew that something had been going on between both you and Loki but he wasn’t about to open that can of worms. He trusted that you two would figure it out on your own and when you did you’d be back to normal, hopefully.
You nodded before taking a shower. It felt slightly therapeutic as if you were washing off the previous day's sorrows, but it only felt so for a fleeting moment, the regret setting into your stomach like a rock as soon as you took a step outside your room.  You checked both ways of the hallway twice as if you were in a crosswalk, hoping that you wouldn’t have to collide with Loki. You sighed softly, half with relief and half with grief. Part of you wanted to see him and try to reconcile, but the other half knew it still might be too soon.
You traveled out of the compound sitting in the back seat with Banner while Clit and Nat sat in the front, Nat taking the wheel as she pulled the group out of the compound.
“Nice to see you Y/N,” Bruce said leaning over to you.  You nodded at him forcing a smile. “It’s nice to be back,” you lied straight through your teeth. “Can you guys give me any details on this guy we’re tracking?” You asked quickly to get the topic off of you and onto the mission.
“The guy is proficient in his narcoleptic abilities,” Nat explained her eyes focused on the road. “He knocked Thor out completely and he brought me to my knees in what seemed like a blink of an eye,” she said. You felt your eyebrows knit together in thought. His powers did seem identical to your own, but you would only be able to confirm your theory if you had meant him in some sort of dreamscape. By the way, the rest of the team was going on about him you hoped that it wouldn’t have to come to that.
Soon enough Natasha pulled the car to a stop five blocks away from the old watermill.
“You think he’s still here?” You asked as you climbed out of the car with Bruce.
“Seeing as he nearly kicked our asses I’d say yes,” Clint jabbed. “It’s not like he has to worry about us being a threat when he can put us under so easily,” he continued.
“Which is why we have you Y/N,” You heard Tony say through your ear communicator.  “You’re gonna be our first line of defense,” He explained.
“Wait what?” You asked suddenly feeling dread spread in your chest. “What makes you think I’ll be strong enough? Tony, I think you’re overestimating my abilities,”
“Nonsense!” Tony called. You saw him fly over your head Thor trailing behind him.
“If I’m correct Y/N, I’ve heard that you’re very good with your abilities as of late,” Thor said. You felt the acid in his voice and felt yourself shrink three sizes down. Of course, he’d be mad at you too.
You didn’t give a retort, you only shook your head sadly with a soft sigh. “Just tell me how I should approach this,” You whispered.
“There’s a back entrance to the mill, you’ll be entering there with Nat as your immediate backup. From there when you get sights on the target, you’re gonna knock him out on sight,” Steve interjected on the coms.
“I understand..” You muttered before looking back to Nat and the rest of the team. Nat nodded at you before starting to walk in front of you let you follow behind her. Your steps were quick and quiet as you tried to mirror Natasha’s movements. Stealth was your absolute priority at the moment, you couldn’t let the team down now.
You found yourself behind the nasty old mill, the scent of mildew and rot filling your nose as you got closer to the building. You scrunched your nose up, you didn’t want to breathe but it wasn’t like you had any choice.  You nodded at Nat before slowly creeping the door open as soft as you could, your fingers practically itching at the slimy old boards that touched your fingertips. You slipped inside easily and looked around swiftly into the building.
It was practically abandoned with oddly placed mattresses in seemingly every corner of the room. Your eyes searched curiously as you saw there were apparently no hostages present. That wasn’t a good sign unless the team had been able to rescue them that meant they relocated.
“There isn’t anyone here,” you whispered to the rest of the team through the coms. You took a step further into the building your feet bending the boards that lay beneath them. They creaked softly as if they threatened to break beneath you.
“Stay alert Y/N,” you heard Steve say.  You nodded turning to Nat. “Got it,” You whispered making sure she was still there and conscious.  You circled around the building slowly, your confidence building.
“Y/N! Get out of there quick!” Tony shouted over the communicators making your heart drop.
“W-what? What are you?” The doors in the front of the mill were thrown open by the suspect you had seen on the screen during the mission debriefing days ago. He looked even more haggard than when you initially saw him. His wrinkles seemed to sag off of his face as if it were melting and his eyes looked like glass pale and blue in color. You were almost ninety-nine percent positive that this man had just grazed death by the hair on his chin.
“Well, this is unexpected.” He said with a chuckle. “Tell me, how’s your sleep schedule, my dear?”
“You’d be surprised at how great it is…” You muttered staring him down.
“We’ll just have to see about that then shall we,” he grinned stretching his hand out towards you.
“I don’t think so,” You growled stretching your hands in front of you too. If he landed a palm on your forehead it meant you would be out for the count, and you couldn’t risk that. Not when everyone was counting on you. Not when you still had so much to say to Loki and Thor.
You circled around each other menacingly, Nat standing behind you. “Nat, you’ve gotta get out of here, tell the others to stay outside, I can’t risk having you here when he could possibly knock you out.” You told her watching the villains every move.
“I’m not leaving you here-”
“just GO!!” you shouted. Nat pursed her lips together tightly before baking out of the mill again against her better judgment.
“Now it’s just you and me,” You murmured hands still up in defense.
“I’ll have you know my dear I don’t kiss on the first date,” He cackled like a hyena showing his ugly smile full of missing teeth.
“I don’t think we’ll have to worry about that old man,” You shrugged not even trying to keep the scowl from off of your face. You had to end things now before he had a chance to get the jump on you first. He must have caught the glimmer of attack in your eyes because as soon as you sped your advance towards him he did too immediately. The two of you raised your hands against each other ready to strike and send the other into what could have been an eternal slumber.
And then, everything went black.
Lessons about gods
Loki x Reader
Warnings: a little bit of fluff
Prompt: Reader tries to find out more about Loki, so she reads books about the Nordic mythology.
You sit in the living room of the Avengers Tower on the couch. A small smile plays on your face while you read in the book you brought home from the library. On the small desk in front of you lie another two books and beside you another one. And all about the Nordic mythology. But when you hear someone coming your way you instantly put them under some pillows. You can place the last book just in time behind your back as you can see the two gods walk in. You swallow a bit. Hopefully they don't notice.
"Lady (Y/n)!" Thor greets you loud and you smile. Loki walks over and gives you a small kiss on the forehead. "Hello Darling." - "Hey guys, what are you doing? I thought you wanted to walk around in the city and get to know New York better?" Of course you don't sit here out in the open for them to see you doing research on their stories. You thought they were out and you had a free place to read.
"We were, but your dear boyfriend wasn't really pleased in not spending time with you when you have time." The god of thunder answers and sits down on the armchair. "Oh that's sweet." You blush a bit. Loki can get quite.. clingy sometimes. You never thought of him as the romantic type of lover but he proofed you wrong.
"What were you doing, my love?" Loki asks while sitting down besides you.
"I-I were just reading." You smile, but you are a bad liar. And Loki of all people knows that. For him are all people bad liars. So he begins to smirk at you and leans a bit closer. "Oh yeah? And what? I can't see any book." You blush more. "A book, just a normal book. I already put it away." He shrugs and leans back. It doesn't take him longer than 5 seconds to sit up straight again and look under the pillow. 'Oh no.' You think.
You hide your face in your hands because you know you are red like a tomato. "Uhm..? Loki hands one of the books to Thor. And they both look through them. "What are you doing with these, (Y/n)?" The older brother asks. You sigh deep and face the gods. "I'm sorry, i am actually doing a bit of research." - "On.. us?" Loki does not sound convinced, but how could he?
"Oh god, you are so frustrating sometimes. Okay to be honest: I just wanted to get to know your heritage better. I wanted to understand it better, because you always avoid me if I ask. And I couldn't ask Thor.. that didn't seem right to me." You think your boyfriend will be angry. You think he would ignore you for a week or two. Like the normal things he does when something doesn't go after his mind.
But despite the things you think will happen he just smiles. His eyebrows lift up a bit and his eyes are warm.
"And what did you find out?" He still smiles and you can see it's an honest smile. His features are soft and their is a playful sparkle in his eyes. He isn't angry.
But you sigh again "Until now? Nothing I didn't already know before. You are a Jotunn but are considered as a god of Asgard. You are the god of mischief and lies. You are a shapeshifter and a trickster. You cause a lot of trouble, then help and then you do it all over again. Though here on earth you are never considered as Thor's brother. It said in one book you were the blood brother of Odin." Loki cringes at that fact and you chuckle because of his face. "Did you find what you were looking for?" - "For now or in general?" You smirk and lean forward to him. "For now not really.. but in general I think I did find the right.." That conjures a smile on his face.
"That's great." He kisses you. "But next time.." another kiss. "Just ask me, I won't ignore you anymore.." another kiss. You rest your foreheads on each others' and look you in the eyes. None of you realises that Thor is long gone.
You lie back in the pillows and look through one of the books. At the myths and stories.
It all seems so nice and warm and perfect. After a few seconds a thought crosses your mind. Something you read before.
"You fucked a horse?" - "I saved a life and the sun."
Avengers: Age of Ultron part 3
Steve, Wanda,  and Pietro had all got back to the Avengers tower. I used my powers to teleport back into the tower. Thor told me to head back and I agreed. We went down to the laboratory and saw Bruce and my dad working around the cradle. Whatever the hell was cooking in that thing must be terrible.
“I’m going to say this once, shut it down.” Steve entered the lab with Pietro, Wanda and I behind him.
“How about nonce.” My dad said, “It’s not going to happen.”
“You don’t know what you’re doing.” Steve told them.
“And you do?” Bruce asked Steve.
“I really recommend listening to him.” I spoke.
“She’s not in your head?” Bruce questioned him again.
“I know you’re angry.” Wanda said looking at him with guilt in her eyes.
“Oh we’re way past that. I could choke the life out of you and never change a shade.” He hissed at her.
“Banner, after everything that has happened.” I said.
“You don’t know what’s in there!” Wanda yelled at Bruce and my dad.
“This isn’t a game!” Steve said the same time as Wanda spoke.
“I really think you should listen to her. You may not trust her, but something in me really does!” I said.
Pietro used his enhanced speed to run around the lab and pulled out wires connecting to the cradle. Bruce and my dad all looked at him in panic once he stopped moving.
“Well, go on.” Pietro said in his thick accent. “You were saying.”
A shot ran out and Pietro fell through glass with Wanda yelling for her brother. I moved and looked down through the hole to see Clint. Nadia and and Carly rushed into the lab to see what was going on.
“What? You didn’t see that coming?” He asked Pietro who was still on the floor.
A bunch of computers started making beeping noises.
“I’m rerouting the upload.” My dad said while Steve threw his shield at him.
One of the Iron Man suit handpieces went onto his hand and he blasted it at Steve. He fell back onto a table. Bruce grabbed Wanda from behind while she started to use her red magic. “Go ahead, piss me off.” He said to her. Clint came up and pointed his gun. Steve went to land a punch at my dad as he was blasted back again. My dad flew back and fell through glass. Wanda had used her magic to make it go through her body and into Bruce’s. Thor appeared rather quickly into the lab and Wanda looked over at me to see my reaction.
Thor had jumped onto the cradle which made Steve look. Thor had called for lightning with his hammer which made Bruce yell “Wait!” My dad looked concerned and Steve covered his eyes from the bright lightning. Thor had moved the hammer right above the cradle causing the lightning to go in. The computers made beeping noises again alerting that there was power overload from the lightning. Everyone was in shock of what Thor did and then he was thrown off the cradle with a red body appearing as glass flew everywhere again. Everyone was either in shock, panic or nervous about what had just happened. The red figure had flew over to the window and was looking in his reflection.
“I’m sorry that was odd.” The red and green man spoke as Thor walked over to him. “Thank you.”
The man had looked over to Thor and then grew a gold cape. So he has the ability to make things appear from nothing? Badass.
“Thor, you helped them create this?” Steve questioned him.
“I’ve had a vision. A world pool that sucks in all hope of life and at that center is that.” He pointed to the gold gene that was in the new figures forehead.
“What? The gem?” Bruce asked.
“The mind stone, it’s one of the 6 infinity stones. The greatest power in the universe unparalleled in its destructive capabilities.” Thor explained.
“Then why did you-” Steve got cut off.
“Because Stark is right.” Thor said.
“Oh it’s definitely the end of times.” Bruce said.
“The Avengers can’t beat Ultron.” Thor said.
“Not alone.” The red and green man said.
“Why does your vision sound like JARVIS?” Steve said what I was thinking.
“We configured JARVIS into his matrix. To create something new.” My dad looked at the new man.
“Well that’s definitely something new.” I said moving beside my dad.
“You think I’m a child of Ultron?” The red and green figure wondered.
“You mean you’re not?” Steve replied.
“Okay, so what or who are you?” I asked him.
“I’m not Ultron. I’m not JARVIS. I am Vision.” He said.
“So that's what Thor saw.” I said to myself.
“I looked in your head and saw annihilation.” Wanda told him.
“Look again.” Vision said calmly.
“Her seal approval means jack to me.” Clint got into the conversation.
“Powers. The horrors in our head is Ultron himself. They all came from the mind stone. Nothing can compare to what it can unleash except the space stone. Unless it’s on our side.” Thor said.
“Is it? Are you? Are you on our side.” Steve asked.
“It’s not that simple. I’m on the side of life. Ultron isn’t.” Vision told everyone.
“What’s he waiting for?” My dad asked Vision.
“Well, he’s probably waiting for us. I mean, he does hate the Avengers.” I added.
“Where is he?” Bruce asked.
“Sokovia,” Clint answered, “because he’s got Nat too.”
“If Ultron has Nat, then we really have to hurry.” Carly said.
“You guys are acting too slow. We have Ultron’s location. Now we need to get there and make plans on the Quinjet.” Nadia added.
“Dia has a point.” I agreed.
“I don’t want to kill Ultron. He’s unique and he is in pain, but that pain will roll over the Earth. He must be destroyed. We must get rid of any trace of him. We have to act now and not one of us can do it without the other. Maybe I am a monster I don’t think I would know if I were one and not one you are and not what you intended. So there may be no way to make you trust me, but we need to go.” Vision had picked up Thor’s hammer and handed it to him.
Thor looked at Vision and then his hammer. Everyone in the room was looking at him. Thor took his hammer from Vision. He looked around at everyone and had a confused look. No one really knew what to do or say.
Thor awkwardly smiled, “Alright well done,” He had patted my dad on the shoulder and walked away.
“3 minutes, get what you need.” Steve ordered.
“Yes sir.” Nadia said.
