Asgard 2012
When Odin summoned Astri and Thor to the throne room, she was surprised. They had been in her room, experimenting with the strength of Astri's magic. She still couldn't completely remember how Thor had agreed to any of this since he had been thrown across the room multiple times and at one point turned into a dog. Now, they were moving towards Odin and Astri was desperately trying to fix the still canine Thor.
   "Change me back!" He exclaimed as she trotted along
   "Don't you see I'm trying?!" She shrieked as she tried again
   "I thought you said Loki taught you this spell years ago!" Thor said
   "He did but I forget how to un-do it!" She groaned, trying again.
   "We cannot go in there to my father like this," Thor said stopping when they had reached the throne room and gesturing with a paw to his fuzzy body
   "At least I made you cuter." Astri hissed, her hands glowing again
   "First of all, I was always this cute. Secondly, FIX ME!" He yelled, a bark sounding at the end of his command.
His loud voice and bark echoed through the long hall they stood in as Astri tried to suppress a laugh.
   "Okay, okay I think I got it." She said
   "Finally. I am never letting you use your magic on me again." Thor groaned
   Astri ignored his comment, after all, he'd said that in the past, and it never actually came to pass.
   Dog Thor glowed a soft blue as Astri changed him back.
   "Finally!" Astri clapped
   "What are you two doing? Odin and I can hear you two shouting from the throne room." Frigga suddenly interrupted, pushing the doors to the throne room open.
Frigga stopped her scolding when she looked at Thor who was finally no longer a dog. Astri followed Frigga's gaze and was met with a very naked Thor who was looking at his hands, probably happy to have his thumbs back.
   "I do not enjoy being kept waiting." Odin's voice joined the chaos
Oh lord. Astri wished she could just vanish into the floor right now.
   "Thor. Return to your chambers and dress yourself." Odin ordered stiffly. "Even if you are romantically interested in Astri, this is not the way to go about showing it."
   "Dear, I thought that your running around naked had stopped years ago," Frigga said turning away from her son "Not to mention it is in proper to be bare in front of a lady who does not wish to see you that way"
Astri kept her gaze on the wall pretending that her face wasn't going bright red as Thor stood next to her somehow unashamed about it all.
   "This is uh...you know I'll just do this." Astri stammered before snapping her fingers and letting a simple-looking shirt and pants appear on Thor's body.
   "Thank you, Astri, do not worry I am not romantically interested in you." Thor said patting his hand on her shoulder "Father what is it you needed to see both of us for?"
   "It is Loki." Odin started, clearly trying to move past what just transpired
   "He is alive," Frigga interjected turning around to face them once more, she seemed to be overflowing with the news.
   "He is alive, and he is on Midgard. He holds a place called New York hostage. " Odin continued "I will be spending my night gathering magic to send one of you there. Heimdall says Loki means to invade the planet with an army."
Astri glanced at Thor whose face was stoic and serious.
   "Why would he go there to invade? We have never wanted war with Earth." Thor said
   "Your brother yearns for a throne. I entrust that one of you will stop him and bring him home." Odin said before turning and walking away, Frigga following him closely.
   "Why do you think he is doing this now?" Astri asked remembering the pain she had felt months ago when she had finally linked their minds.
   "I do not know." Thor sighed "How do we decide who is sent?"
   "What do you mean? You. If Loki has an army, you're Midgard's best bet on defense." She reasoned
   "Yes, but you might be able to reason with him and keep him from even starting the invasion," Thor said
   "I'm sure you're just as capable," Astri said looking down at her nails
   "Yes, but you're better." Thor pointed out
Astri kept her gaze down as Thor spoke of how Loki was hard to reason with and that she was better at talking with him.
   "I can't go. He and I got in a fight before you destroyed the Bifrost." She said looking back up at him
   "So? Loki and I fought all the time. For example, do you remember the time we fought over what the best way to kill a Bilgesnipe was? We got so heated I threw him down the steps and then nearly took his face off with my hammer. " Thor reminded her
   "Yes, I remember that one. But this fight was different. I said that he was a monster, the same thing I vowed he wasn't just days before when he told me he was a Frost Giant." Astri admitted
   "Everyone says something they don't mean sometimes," Thor said placing both his hands on her shoulders and gently shaking "What matters is what we do to fix our mistakes."
   "That's the thing... in the moment I think meant it," Astri said, her voice a whisper.
The next day, Odin sent Thor to Midgard. Astri had seen him before he left. She had made him promise he'd bring Loki back in one piece no matter how aggravating he got and how many times he might try to stab him. Thor had of course sworn and then disappeared into a burst of magic from the AllFather. A day had passed since then and Astri had been pouring over the same book on astral projection for hours now. It wasn't the typical kind of projection Frigga had taught her and Loki as children. Instead, it was made for much larger distances and gave her the ability to physically interact with the environment around her.
   "You know just staring at the page isn't going to get you anywhere." Frigga warmly said from her doorway
   " I know...I just don't know if I can do it." Astri said looking up as Frigga sat next to her
   "Are you speaking of the projection, because I know you're strong enough, or seeing my son again?" She asked placing a hand on Astri's
   "Both." She admitted, "I'm scared that if I can't talk to him he might destroy Midgard but I'm also scared to talk to him after so long."
   "You don't have to be. I know you can project to wherever my sons are and talk to both of them. I also know that I raised you to never be afraid of anything." Frigga encouraged
   "Thank you," Astri said
   "Of course, darling. I'll take my leave. A projection like that requires immense focus and silence I don't want to ruin anything." Frigga smiled standing "I do suggest appearing in something other than your night dress."
Astri blushed but nodded and had her armor appear on her body. She got onto her bed and laid down. She had decided she'd find Thor first. She wanted him to fill her in on what Loki was doing before she had to see him. Her eyes fluttered shut and she took a deep breath, searching for Thor. She could do this.
Her eyes opened again and she was met with a man with one eye aiming a Midgardian weapon at her. A small woman was doing the same, her red hair stood out against her black outfit. A man who was dressed in an overly tight red white and blue suit stood about twenty feet away, his fists raised. Thor was also there, smiling at Astri while telling the humans to calm themselves.
   "She is my friend. Everyone lower your weapons she won't hurt you." Thor reasoned
"Stark get up here, there's another Asgardian. Leave Banner in the lab. "  The redhead spoke into a table.
   "She appeared on my ship with no warning you want me to believe she isn't a threat?" One-eye said
   "I'm here to talk to Loki, not to cause problems," Astri said raising her hands
   "Tell me why we should believe you?" The redheaded woman said
   "Well for starters, I grew up with him." Astri pointed to Thor
   "So did Loki." Red white and blue said
   "Loki has always been a fan of dramatics," Astri began to explain
   "You call taking innocent lives dramatics?" Red white and blue responded
God this guy seemed just a bit too serious for Astri's liking. He was easy on the eyes at least, Astri liked how blue his eyes were. Without the awful outfit, he might even pass as acceptable.
   "She speaks the truth." Thor vouched for her
   "And I also know that Loki-"
A strong scent of something filled Astri's nose and a blur of red and gold hit her.
   "Target secured." A robotic voice sounded from above her "Do I get a pay bonus?"
   "Get off," Astri commanded angrily, her power pushing the thing off her.
She was met with what was most likely a Midgardian clothed entirely in metal standing in front of her.  The man's hands glowed and a shot flew at her, hitting her in the stomach. Her hands glowed and she used her power to pick up the chairs she had knocked over. The metal man dodged them and came at her again.
   "The other two had better aim." He commented, his head turned to the chair his suit had cut in half
He was seriously pissing her off. That snark was horribly annoying.
   "Really? Ever hear of distractions?" Astri smirked before hitting him with a blast that pinned him to the wall behind him. She squeezed her hand together and a loud gasp sounded from the metal man as his suit dented under Astri's will. "Knock me over like that again and I'll pull you from that ridiculous armor you think is protecting you and gut you like a fish."
"I believe her! Thor, call the fourth Sanderson sister off!" The man exclaimed as his suit let out sparks, indicating whatever Astri was doing was working.
   "Alright everyone calm down." One-eye ordered, glaring at Astri who was watching the man's glowing hands.
The lights in the metal man's hands dimmed and its face opened up. A man with a strange beard and dark eyes looked at Astri. Astri sighed and let him go, he and his strange armor came away from the wall.
   "How many of you are there? Because this is getting ridiculous." He said motioning to her and Thor. "By the way, I should invoice you for all this damage."
 "Let me talk to him, I promise to not destroy your place anymore," Astri said,  turning to one eye, ignoring the metal man who was examining his damaged outfit.
He looked over at the redhead as if he was asking for her opinion.
   "Your ship, your call." She said
   "Fine. Thor, Romanoff show her where he is. You do anything suspicious, like try to free him, I'll kill you." He said
Astri nodded despite knowing that the one-eyed man had a very low probability of being able to kill an Asgardian. She followed Thor and the redhead out of the room and away from red white and blue, and the strong-smelling metal man Astri wanted to toss out those large windows this place had.
   "Loki is rather angry right now Astri," Thor warned
   "When is he not?" Astri sighed
   "We're trying to get him to tell us where the Tesseract is. If you could help us with that it'd be appreciated." The redhead said
   "I'll try. Loki has never been the most cooperative though. By the way, what exactly are we on? I thought Midgard's buildings didn't reach this high." Astri asked as they passed another window. They seemed to be in the clouds.
   "Some sort of floating gray palace of Fury's, he's the man with one eye," Thor explained
Astri looked over at the redhead knowing Thor's explanations could be incorrect sometimes.
   "He's got the basics." She shrugged
   "Oh, and this is Natasha." Thor introduced "And this is my mother's ward and my childhood friend, Astri."
   "So, Astri what are you to Loki?" Natasha asked as she led them through a maze of hallways and stairs "Ex-girlfriend?"
   "No...I'm a close friend, I guess." Astri asked "We haven't truly seen eye-to-eye since Thor was banished here a year ago."
   "Well I'd suggest you put your differences aside, we'd like you to drag some more information out about him. Loki's been a serious pain in our ass recently." Natasha said
   "What exactly has he done so far?" Astri was almost scared of the response.
   "So far, he's killed 80 people in two days. He also managed to turn one of my closest friends into some mindless zombie." Natasha said
   "Loki has a scepter and the Tesseract. Stark believes he's trying to open a portal for his army." Thor said
   "That would make sense. Wait who is Stark?" She asked
   "The one you threw chairs at and then pinned against a wall. Nice job with that by the way." Natasha explained
   "Ah, the one who smelled strange." Astri nodded
   "That was probably the cologne he wears," Natasha responded
   "He should change it," Astri said
   "I'm glad we agree." Natasha smiled
They entered another hallway and stopped at a large metal door.
   "Thor is staying outside the door in case something goes wrong. Just so you know we can hear and see everything, cameras and audio are covering every inch of that cell. Anything you say or do we know about it, all the feeds go to the bridge we were just on." Natasha warned
   "We were on a bridge? When?" Astri asked not remembering crossing anything
   "Never mind. Stick around long enough and I'll teach you all about Earth." Natasha offered before walking away.
    "Loki is in a state I haven't seen him in before," Thor warned and Astri nodded.
   "How did you even get here?" He asked
   "I'm not here. I learned a new form of projection so I could talk to Loki. You were right when you said I might be able to talk him out of the invasion. " Astri explained
   "Did you just admit that I was right about something?" Thor grinned
   "No." Astri lied
   "I will have to tell Mother about this upon my return," Thor said proudly as Astri stepped away from him and towards the door.
The door opened as soon as Astri stepped closer to it and slid shut again once she had fully entered. Inside the room, a large round cage of sorts sat, suspended by large metal arms. What was most interesting was who was inside. When Astri's eyes met Loki's she swore she felt her heart jump into her throat. Her palms grew sweaty as she approached the cell.
   "Hello, Astri. It's been a while hasn't it? "
In case anyone is wondering what dog Thor was, he got turned into a Golden Retriever. Also, Astri's armor is below, no she does not have blue hair.:

Loki x Salem:
Which member is always trying to bring home stray animals and which member always has to say no?
What are some things they don’t agree on?
What is each member’s love language?
What was the most surprising thing they learned about one another once they started dating?
*cackles* you are asking for fire and I like it.
Which member is always trying to bring home stray animals and which member always has to say no?
Salem always loves animals, Loki does too, but he understands you can't bring 6 stray kittens into a 1 bedroom apartment and have it be comfortable for all of them.
Salem did successfully keep 2 kittens for all of a week before Loki found them and then promised that when they got into a bigger place they could keep kittens and that he'd make sure these ones got a good home.
What he didn't tell her is that "good home" was actually just his old rooms in Asgard, with Thor keeping watch on them and the servents sworn to secrecy. He plans to return the kittens to Salem as soon as they have an appropriate housing situation, because he was sad to see her so upset about loosing them.
What are somethings they don't agree on?
That the apartment isn't a good size for kittens or puppies or birds or ....
But also what to have for dinner if it was up to Salem they'd order out every night, Loki has since made the very fair argument that one night ordering out for both of them is the same as couple of days of food from the stores.
How books should be organized. By title or by author that's one argument that keeps them on opposite sides of the room as they talk in forced calm voices only to eventually break down laughing. (They decided to just split the books in half and do both it's chaotic it doesn't work but it works for them)
Laundry, basically how to fold it and how to put it away. Salem likes the basket method where it just lives in the baskets. Loki thinks it all needs to be put away while still warm.
What is each members love language?
Loki is touch. Hand holding, a hand to Salem's back, a soft kiss to the cheek, a shoulder touch. Just anything that lets him be in contact with Salem, but he does try to down play it (it doesn't work)
What was the most surprising thing they learned about one another once they started dating?
Salem is probably gift giving. If she's out and sees something that makes her think of Loki she buys it and brings it right home to him. And she about melts whenever Loki gives her a gift, each one is treasured and held close. (She doesn't know it, but Loki secretly replaces the flowers when they start to die so she doesn't notice)
Both of them also love flower language Salem was taught as a child and Loki picked it up from Frigga so as they started building they're relationship, one thing they did was give each other flowers with special meanings. So I'd say that's also part of their love languages.
For Loki its probably learning how defensive Salem actually is. Although her being a thief and an ex *redacted* are probably close seconds.
For Salem probably just all of the shit Loki's gone through. Oh also that Loki really candy hold his alcohol, oh and that he's a snuggler when in bed together.

reading the dark world prelude comics for lack of anything better to do <3 not taking them as canon just uhh having a look
Oh Boy i love to open a story with multiple uses of the words "savage" and "primitive"!! come closer we are a normal planet we will not represent the end of our ethnic supremacy as the end of the fucking world
but genuinely the idea that ragnarok the mythological apocalypse and ragnarok the fall of the asgardian empire are being taught to their children as one and the same... oh i am considering it. that's AWFUL <3
thor's bleached eyebrows live on <3 yes hahaha yesss. FUCK alan taylor's directorial vision. make that man look BAD.
why is odin so Large. i know bc it's a comic book but. sjfkjdsdfsk.
"how long until the bifrost is ready" "shall we guess in days or lives?" PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE MELODRAMATIC NIGHTMARE FATHER. right now thor is literally just trying to help!!!
they have frigga not just notice loki, but actually try to speak to him via astral projection? and he refuses. hmm. hmmmm.
they're also explicit about asgard *needing* the tesseract for their own purposes. which honestly i didn't think they did, i thought their tech was independently powerful enough and rebuilding the bifrost was just a matter of time... but hey it's possible. asgard is v small and probably pretty damn dependent on the conquered realms! maybe they didn't have the materials to rebuild from scratch on their own. and this puts an interesting spin on thor's whole presence in the avengers. "i'm a wise immortal taking this dangerous power out of naive human hands <3" no YOU just want it lmao
when loki spoke about odin using "dark energy" to send thor to earth i always assumed the implication was that it was somehow morally dubious. this comic casts it as DANGEROUS? to both odin and thor? hmmm.
"you find time to jest while your people are dying -_-" shut up thor you love that shit.
"earth was nearly destroyed >:(" drama runs in the family. it was just one little metropolis thor <3 really not such a big deal <3
odin says loki is dead to him and calls him a "creature". literally gonna kill that old man i'm not joking any more
erik :(
"savagery" AGAIN???
DUMP HIM JANE!!!
thor is making a speech and oh my god the complexes - "to fight, to bleed, to die for those we love and cherish... to hold back the ever-growing tide of ragnarok that comes to claim us all. this is not our duty. it is the reason for our very existence" YOUR HIGHNESS. THERAPY. PLEASE!!!

You what gets me? That Loki, our Loki, will probably never have any meaningful interaction with the characters that were his family ever again. Definitely not with Thor. No motivational pep-talks with Frigga and Odin for Loki. So, in episode 3 of the series, when Sylvie and Loki are sitting together on the train and she actually asks him about his “adoption”, in that moment she is the closest thing to a family member he’s got left (that is if we are to believe that she’s a Loki too, and had a Frigga and Odin of her own) and she’s actually asking him about it. She’s the first and only person to ever ask him about it.
“Didn’t they tell you?”
Hoo boy, what a loaded question, right??
And when I was watching it, I thought, ok, here we go. But instead he just…”yeah, of course they told me, eventually…” ??? I couldn’t believe they had him just skippity-do-da over that so blithely! I mean, there’s a little bit more to it than that, isn’t there? I mean, yeah, of course they told him eventually, yeah! Of course they did! It just so happens that they had no other choice BUT to tell him at the time, because he was standing there turning ice cold and blue and they literally could not lie to his face anymore, but yeah, of course they told him eventually! I mean, what do you think they are, a couple of stone-cold lyin’ jerks?
It was kind of a defining moment for Loki, if not THE defining moment. And here someone is finally asking him about it, and is willing to listen to the answer, and at first I thought Loki was going to finally get to open up and tell someone what happened and how it made him feel, but now I realize that the whole conversation doesn’t exist so that Loki can finally open up and share his feelings. Oh God no. The conversation exists as yet another example of why Loki is a weak, spoiled, privileged Prince who was lucky to be taught magic by his wonderful mother, and the poor, amazing, incredible Sylvie was not.
That’s when my willingness to give this show a chance completely soured. It really isn’t about him, and they never wanted it to be, not like that. It’s not so much about him as it is that he’s just in it. He’s just there. A prop. The most attractive tool in their tool box.
It's funny because this is supposed to be the same Loki who, just a couple of nights ago, had a somewhat conversation with Thor about his true parentage and he was very, very much NOT okay with it.
OMG I couldn't agree more with you anon!
They went from this
Tumblr media
and this
Tumblr media
to this
Tumblr media
Like it was no big deal, like he didn't have a meltdown after he found out (they didn't tell him, he found out!), like both Odin and Frigga didn't try to manipulate him after the fact.
Like you I wanted that chat with Sylvie to be an opportunity for Loki to talk about it, stop calling it "adoption", express his feelings about his heritage and finally come clean with how bad he had been mistreated all his life because of his origins. But that chat wasn't about him at all, the only purpose was to show Sylvie knew all along and her family had told her because she's such a good girl.

Pizza, or Loki?
So while i was reading a fanfic this brilliant idea hit me and I started jotting it down in my phone’s notes and it was only gonna be a small segment but then turned into a small one shot! I’m quite happy with it and hope you all enjoy it too!
Tumblr media
Playing hard to get even though you’re dating the God of Mischievous causes some feelings of concern on both ends. Needless to say, it ends happily for the both of you anyways.
"Darling....the pizza.....or me?" Loki said with a raised eyebrow and a smirk thinking he's secure in your answer as all the Avengers stare at you with a mix of amusement and concerned looks on their faces.
You stand there with a soda half way to your lips and let the silence linger for a second, Loki's knowing smirk suddenly faltering.
"Oh...."
Everyone leaned into you.
"The pizza for sure." You said shrugging and taking a drink of your soda then leaving the room. Loki stuck with his mouth open and the avengers laughing.
Loki wasn’t quite sure whether to take this as an insult or not, considering you were his, he shivers at the thought of the word, girlfriend. Why couldn't mortals come up with some better word to describe their significant other.
~~~~~
The next day you smirk internally because when you awake Loki bursts in the room, a tray of food ready for you. He brought pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, and even ham, knowing you're very much a omnivore but leaning more towards carnivore. To top it all off he even brought your favorite, strawberry milk.
"Did you make this all by yourself?" You ask him as you eat with his company in bed.
Loki takes in a deep breath and frowns, "Technically...yes," he chuckles, "My dear?"
You only smile at the questionable tilt of the nick name for you.
~~~~~~~
The next day Loki says he would like to spar with you. It doesn't sound like much, but it is, because when you first started dating you had begged Loki to spar with you but he had adamantly denied every request with the same excuse, "No, do you know how easily I could break you with my strength?"
So when Loki asks if you want to spar you say yes.
When you go to sleep at night Loki is still up but before you can fully fall asleep you happily let him kiss every bruise he left on you knowing it will placate him and his guilt. You do however reassure him it doesn't hurt much and you’re not weak, the soreness is welcoming and you had a lot of fun.
~~~~~~
Finally, the day after, Loki brings you news you never thought you'd hear him say.
"Would you be adverse to meeting my parents?" Loki asks off handedly, or so it seems, in reality he is giddy thinking after this you'll have to pick him over pizza.
You look at him with wide eyes and stutter before you catch yourself and say, "I mean I’m not adverse i would love to Loki, I’m more concerned about you, are you sure you're ready for this?"
Loki can only smile at you and pretend to think on it for a second, "Yes. Im quite sure, darling."
A week later you, Loki, and the avengers are together again. Your "meeting the parents" date went wonderful and you really bonded with Loki's mother, Frigga. When leaving Odin even said he would be pleased to have you over more often.
Tony is the one who brings the question up though.
"I mean we can't really ignore what's been going on between you two, getting so...lovey dovey recently," Tony raises his eyebrows, "so, Loki or pizza?" Tony asked excitedly.
You looked at Loki and smiled, he didn't outright smile at you but the little twitch of his lips told you what you needed to know.
"Pizza." You said, no hesitation.
Loki frowned but Thor clapped his shoulder as he was laughing and broke the God's thought process. You decided to leave the room but first gave Loki a peck on the cheek.
~~~~~~
It was 2 hours later after Loki had time to think about what you said and he couldn't tell if he was angry or not because surely....surely you were joking, right? Come on, it was pizza.....
Right?
He was headed to his room to grab a book and maybe take his mind of things when he passed the kitchen area and heard two voices. Specifically your voice and Natasha's. He stopped before passing the archway and listened.
"Come on, pizza, really? We can all tell you’re head over heels for Loki."
"I am, it's honestly a little scary if I’m being honest I’ve never really felt this way about anyone before," Loki heard water splash and assumed you two were doing dishes after tonight's dinner, "I mean I thought with my ex's I had felt love but then....he came around and suddenly I’m not so sure anymore."
Loki heard a soft thump and you giggle. Nat must have bumped you with her hip.
"So why pizza then?"
"I....."
Loki leaned into the archway, catching himself from nearly falling through it, anxiously awaiting your response.
"I feel like I need to play hard to get, you know? Loki comes from Asgard, he is literally surrounded by goddesses every day, or at least growing up. This man is so damn handsome he could literally take any woman off the streets and they would love it so I guess I do it to keep him humble?" Loki heard you sigh, "I don’t know I’m probably over reacting and it's not his fault but I feel like....the whole world, or, well universe, is my competition."
Loki hears Nat hum, "I'm not so sure about that...Loki is head over heels in love with you and if I remember correctly Asgardians are very serious about dating, they usually have a long term plan if they start courting you."
"I....ya."
"All I’m saying is give Loki more credit is all."
Loki doesn't realize how lost in thought he is until Natasha comes out the door and pointedly looks at him, nodding her head to the kitchen and quietly saying with that one look, get in there, work your magic. So, Loki does.
Loki enters the kitchen and clears his throat so you glance behind yourself and smile, taking a second to dry your hands then turn and give him your full attention.
"What's up, Loke?"
For once in his life Loki, the silver tongued God doesn't know what to say. So instead, he confidently walks over to you and pulls you to himself, freezing you in a hug, his chin resting on your head and relaxes into you as you wrap your arms around him too.
"I think...." Loki forms his thoughts in his head and decides to be brutally honest for once, "I think without you I may have ventured down a dark path. I believe you've taught me what loyalty and love truly are. I can think of nothing better than living out the rest of my life with you, only you....forever."
"I..." you say, pulling back a bit to look Loki in the eyes in shock and confusion but Loki can see something like relief too before the look in your eyes changes and he frowns for a second not knowing what you're feeling right now.
"Was that your way of proposing to me?" You ask in a shy and timid voice. Loki blinks, blinks once more, then smiles softly, "If that's what you want then...yes."
You blush and hide your face in his chest and begin babbling, "I mean I don’t want to push you into a marriage so don't feel like you-"
Loki pushes you away from his body and holds onto your shoulders like it's his life line, looking you in the eyes and says, "I want it more than you'll ever know. Will you marry me?"
You can feel the tears in your eyes but nod yes before saying it too, "Yes. Yes, yes, God yes!"
Loki chuckles as you laugh and brings your mouth to his, both of you kissing through smiles and your tears of happiness.
~~~~~~~
After things have calmed down and you told the avengers about your sealed fate, you’re all together celebrating when Natasha comes up between you and Loki, she gives you both a pointed look then looks at you.
"Pizza, or Loki?"
You look at Loki in the eyes and smile, he smiles back at you and grabs your hand toying with the golden ring, with emeralds going around the band.
"Well...."
You checked your hair and make up one last time before going down and waiting for Loki.
"You look nice, is that a new dress?" your father asked.
"Yes, we got one for ourselves when we went to get one for the queen." you smiled and he nodded.
"It's nice, are you coming with us?"
"No, we're going to go with Loki, Sif and Thor will be with us too." you explained and he nodded again.
"Okay, we'll see you there then." Oh, you hoped you wouldn't. Your relationship with your parents were a little complicated and you didn't like to be around them while you were with your friends.
"Yeah, sure. Oh here they are!" you opened the door and smiled when you saw your friends. "Bye father." you closed the door and started walking with them.
"You guys timed that knock so perfectly!" you smiled making them chuckle.
"You're welcome, you look amazing y/n." Thor smirked. You actually wanted to hear that from Loki first.
"Thanks Thor, you all look really nice too." you smiled and kept walking. Your house wasn't too far away from the palace so you got there in no time. You went and hugged Frigga and Odin before you went to sit down at one of the more special tables.
"We'll go get drinks, you guys sit." Thor grinned and left with Sif, leaving you and Loki alone.
"Why does that fabric look so familiar?" Loki joked.
"It was your mother's suggestion, i really like it." He smiled and he seemed like he was thinking what to say before he talked again.
"You look really nice, it suits you." There was that small blush on his cheeks again, and probably on yours too.
"Thank you, you look good too."
"Here we are!" Thor shouted putting the drinks on the table. You weren't the biggest fan of Asgard's drinks, they were too strong for you but Thor and the other two seemed comfortable drinking them. Loki thanked his brother and took a sip from the drink before putting it back on the table. You all chatted about stuff while they drank a little too much and especially Thor was clearly very drunk.
"I'll go ask my mother something, excuse me for a few minutes." Loki smiled and you nodded. Right when he left Sif decided to use the bathroom and left too. You were now alone with a drunk Thor, which was never good.
"You look so beautiful tonight y/n!" Thor shouted, there was loud music but his voice was still a little bit too high.
"Thanks Thor, you've already said that before." you sighed and took a sip from your untouched drink, regretting it instantly.
"I wish you were my date, i just said yes to Sif so she wouldn't feel bad. I'd love to come with you." Thor smirked and you nodded hoping he would shut up or Loki and Sif would return.
"You know, i actually wanted to ask something-"
"Hey, we're back!" Sif smiled interrupting Thor's words, thankfully. Loki sat back next to you, your thighs so close it was basically like they were glued together. You wouldn't care about it at all normally but you did now.
"Would you like to dance?" Loki asked like he knew you wanted to get away from there for a while and you nodded.
"Yes, sure." He held your hand and walked to the empty space that was left for dancing with you. Thor and Sif got up too but you walked a little more to be away from them.
"Is everything okay?" Loki asked with concern in his voice.
"Yeah, don't worry. I just wanted to be more alone." you smiled and he returned it. He put his hands on your waist and you connected yours behind his neck.
"Are you having fun, you seem a little off."
"I am now." you smiled and he looked away trying to hide his blush, which didn't really work. You just wanted to stand on your tiptoes and kiss him but you wanted to talk to him in a more private place before doing that so you just swayed slowly with the rhythm of the song that was playing.
You put your head on his chest and he tightened his grip on your waist a little. You saw Frigga smiling at you and smiled shyly. You didn't realise your mother approaching you until she called your name.
"y/n, what are you doing?"
"Uh, dancing?" you furrowed your eyebrows in a confused way.
 "I can see that, why are you with Loki?" You hated when she acted like this.
"I didn't know i was supposed to ask you who i was going to dance with." you raised your voice a little bit and Loki pressed his hand on your back trying to calm you down.
"I can't believe you." she shook his head and left to do Odin knows what.
"Are you okay?" Loki lifted your chin up and looked into your eyes.
"Yes, sorry. I hate it when she says stuff like that, she's always trying to control me and everything about my life." you sighed.
"Do you want to leave? We can go to my room if you want to. Or just the garden." he suggested and you nodded.
"Your room's fine." He held your hand and you walked to his room trying not to see anyone else on your way and surprisingly succeeding. He closed the door and you sat on the edge of his bed.
"Do you want something?"
"No, i'm okay." you smiled and he sat down next to you. You laid down and sighed, annoyed with your mother.
"She keeps telling me what to do in every second of my life like it's her own and not mine. And then my father starts saying stuff like 'listen to your mother, she knows what's best for you' What if i don't want the best? What if i just want to do whatever i want?" you closed your eyes trying to stop the tears that were forming on your eyes from spilling.
"I'm sorry about it but please try not to think too much about it. It'll only make you feel worse and you don't deserve that." he put his hand on yours and you smiled, your eyes still closed.
"Do you remember when you used to show me the new magic tricks your mother had taught you whenever i was sad when we were little?" you chuckled at the thought.
"Yeah, do you want me to show you some?" You nodded your head and opened your eyes. He laid down next to you and made a move with his hand which made butterflies appear in his palm. You lifted your hand to touch them but they disappeared as soon as your fingers touched his palm.
"Can i hug you?"
"Of course." he nodded.
"Promise you won't disappear too?" you joked and he smiled.
"Never, i promise." you snuggled closer to his body and put your head on his chest like you did while you were dancing. His hand softly rubbed your back making you feel even safer in his arms. You wanted to stay like that forever.
"y/n?" he whispered after a while and smiled when he realised you fell asleep in his embrace.
"Good night love." he kissed your forehead and closed his eyes to sleep too. He wanted to tell you how he truly felt but i guess that had to wait for tomorrow now. He would have woke you up and told it if he knew what was going to happen the next morning...
A/N: Requests from three anons. After the fluff comes the smut! (Is that how it goes? Probably not.) Enjoy, my lovelies! ♥
Words: 2691 Warnings: smut and shameless thirsting for Loki
“The bed sheets are to be changed at the end of the week but please do not worry about hurrying to make the bed in the morning. He enjoys his solitude and peace in the early hours of the day.”
You nodded, mentally taking a note of this. Frigga was heart-warming, kind. You could barely believe she was Thor's and Loki's mother. Be that as it may, you would fulfil your duties as Frigga's chamber maid to her satisfaction. Loki’s was sick this week, bed worn with a heavy case of the Asgardian flu and she had asked you to also take care of Loki's chambers this week.
Unlike his brother and much to your surprise, Loki did not have many demands. He would ask for books brought to him from the library for when he returned from a long day on the training grounds, he wished for fresh fruit (mainly grapes) and wine on his table at his immediate disposal at all times and in the mornings, you were to bring him his breakfast personally.
You were hesitant, for even though you could use the extra wage, Loki... he intimidated you. He intimidated you in a sexual manner. Tall, strong and elegant, it was short of a miracle the women were not falling to his feet like they did with Thor. How could they prefer the God of Thunder over him anyway? Loki was intelligent and witty, always up for a trick and eloquent on top of that. You liked his mischievous vein, even though you could never possibly admit that out loud. Loki's presence made your heart beat rapidly—and his curious, sometimes even seductive looks he observed you with during public feasts where you served drinks and food... they made your knickers damp and your blood heat up. It was wrong to desire him, so you knew. You were a mere chambermaid, unworthy of even thinking about an intimate encounter and yet... his long body and smooth voice had been haunting you at night ever since you had become Frigga’s chambermaid.
You were more than ready to lose your virginity, finally. No man had been inside you yet, no one had claimed you as his. Working as a chambermaid, your opportunities to meet proper men obviously remained ridiculously little, and you were far too proud to give yourself to an unexperienced stable boy. Even when Odin had royal visitors whom you served in his palace rarely paid attention to a simple chambermaid when they could have one of the other beautiful women with a status in the throne room. Besides, your mother had taught you that it was forbidden for an unmarried woman to desire intimacy without a spouse, forbidden to desire a prince at that.
“Loki can be a very gentle man once you get to know him better. Yet I will ask him to behave around you. I know he can be rather intimidating.” Frigga said just then, her hand touching your shoulder in a comforting manner. Once again, you nodded shyly as you came to a halt in front of Loki's door and knocked hesitantly. His smooth voice sent shivers up and down your spine the moment he spoke up and invited you into the lion’s cave…
“Yes?”
“My prince? I, uh… my name is (Y/N). The queen sent me to take care of your chambers this week.”
He looked as handsome as ever. Dressed in more casual clothing than usual, he was sat at his desk with his legs on the table, reading peacefully. Your mouth watered when he licked his index finger to turn the page.
The God of Mischief looked up from his book. “Ah yes…” A playful glistening erupted in his blue eyes like a fiery volcano. “My mother told me she would be finding replacement. I know you. You help out the kitchen maids during feasts, do you not?”
“I do, your highness.”
“My mother has acquainted you with my habits, I presume?” He said, raising his eyebrows slightly.
“She has, your highness.”
“Very well then… I shall be looking forward to an… entertaining week.” Your heart skipped a beat.
-
Panting, you turned over to avoid the wet spot your arousal had left on your thin mattress. Your hand emerged from between your legs, your shaking fingers sleek with your juices. How many times this night had you touched yourself simply by thinking about how concentrated Loki had still been reading in his chambers today when you came to bring him fresh fruit and wine? You had not missed the thoughtful and knowing glances he had shot you, nor had you failed to notice the hint of a smirk both playing on his thin lips and sparkling in his eyes. He kept doing it, knowing very well what it did to you, no? He must have known. Loki was the most perceptive man on Asgard. Perhaps he already knew your reactions to him better than you did yourself. But it could not happen. Frigga might have asked him to be nice to you after you had left but that did not mean he could not have his fun with you and tease you, relentlessly, until you begged him to fuck you senseless, right in his bed while you dug your nails into the green silken sheets. You wanted to have sex so badly—to have a man sheath himself deep inside of you, to have him take you thoroughly… but… you wanted to have this with Loki.
Grunting quietly, you buried your head under your pillow and forced your eyes shut in an attempt to sleep. His blue eyes kept haunting you even in your dreams.
-
“Your highness? Your breakfast is ready.”
“Come in.”
Quietly, you pushed the door open and rolled the serving cart inside. Your cheeks turned bright red when you spotted Loki lying on the bed half... if not entirely naked in his bed. The green sheets left little to nothing for your imagination, the silken fabric complimenting his rather pale but still well-defined skin. A smirk played on his lips upon noticing your staring.
“G-good morning, your highness.” You choked out. Loki chuckled darkly.
“Good morning.” He purred the words as if he meant to seduce you and quite possibly... he was. You had never imagined him to be so smug, to be honest. Compared to his brother, Loki has always seemed to be the reasonable and rational one, however humbler; and you were still sure that in some aspects, he was. He knew, he knew, he knew... a betraying voice in your head whispered. You swallowed thickly.
“Your, uh, breakfast.”
“Thank you, dear.” He was still smirking and you were sure that by the time you hurried to leave his chambers again and shut the door behind you, you could hear him laughing mischievously.
“Are you not going to join me?” He suddenly said when you nodded and turned to leave his chambers for good.
“I, uh, what? My... surely it’s not my place to...”
“It sure is if I ask for some company while having breakfast.” He waved his hand nonchalantly. “Entertain me.”
“I… your highness, I have to prepare your mother’s breakfast too.” You replied sheepishly.
Loki only suppressed a smirk.
“Very well then…” Now why did you have the feeling that this had sounded like… a promising threat?
-
You kept dancing around one another for the rest of the week. Loki would watch you hungrily and practically undress you with his eyes and you would try and avoid him, do your duties and masturbate to his mischievous chuckles at night. Soon now, you would be out of danger. The week was almost over. All you had left to do was changing his sheets and flee his bloody chambers, forever. Never again would you agree to replace Loki's usual chambermaid.
You had expected for the younger prince to have left by now, to go on a ride with his brother and then train with some einherjar. But apparently, that was not the case. When you entered, his fresh bed sheets in hand, Loki was sitting by his desk reading a book.
“Oh, your highness... I'm sorry, I thought you were out. S-should I come back later?”
“That won't be necessary. Go on.”
Your heart was already leaping out of your chest as you stepped closer, the door falling shut behind you as if your fate had been sealed.
Trembling slightly—and ignoring how your core heated up when you felt his curious gaze on you, you turned your back to him and began to change his sheets with sweating palms. Ten seconds passed. Twenty, then thirty.
Then, suddenly, you felt his body warmth in your back—his hot breath against your neck. You gasped when he wrapped his arms around your middle, exploring your curves through the simple fabric of your dress.
His mouth attacked the sensitive skin of your back, inhaling your scent deeply before biting down—hard. A scream, both terrified and aroused, escaped your lips. Struggling against his steel grip, you fought against the need to press yourself against him and offer him your body to do with as he pleased. This urge… no, it had to be wrong. Even though it felt right.
“Y-your highness... Loki.... w-what are you doing? P-please... s-stop...”
“Do you truly wish for me to stop?” He growled into your ear. No. No you did not. Feeling his strong body against yours, it felt heavenly. But you were still a mere chambermaid. Odin would possibly throw you in the dungeons if you herded with his second-born son. It was not your place to desire, not your place to... oh... you whimpered when Loki turned you around so you were forced to face him, his lips crashing down on yours and his hands disappearing under your dress which he impatiently pushed up, digits probing your naked thighs and tearing your knickers in two as if they were made of paper.
He already knew how wet he would find you for him, still, your sleek petals caught him off guard and he let out an animalistic growl when his fingers found your clitoris and began toying with it.
You were tempted to closed your legs, to flee... instead, your body finally leaned into him; spreading your legs even further to give him more access. Unceremoniously, Loki lifted you up and threw you on his bed, earning him a terrified squeal from you. It was a moment you needed for your mind to follow rational thinking. Breathing heavily, you attempted to crawl away but the God of Mischief had already seen it coming. Your futile attempt to escape was foiled when he pinned you on the mattress, leaving you helpless and utterly defenceless underneath his strong body. Once again, Loki devoured your neck with relish, kissing, licking and biting until he grew tired of having only half your body at his immediate disposal and proceeded rip the rest of your clothing apart. Your breasts bounced free, your already hardening nipples tightening up even more due to the sudden cool breeze and Loki’s greedy blue eyes on you.
“Your highness... please...”
You could not tell whether you were asking him to keep going or to stop.
“You have been longing for me to sheath myself deep inside of you ever since you first set a foot into this palace, no? Admit it…” He lowered his mouth onto one of your buds, sucking it between his teeth. Your fingers dug into his raven hair.
“I…”
You could feel his arousal pressing against your naked thighs, even through the tight leather fabric of his trousers. Impatiently, he freed his awaiting length, his mouth never parting from your skin.
“Have you got any idea…” He mumbled against the underside of your left breast, “…what you have been doing to me this past week? Teasing me like this… dancing around me…”
What? Indignantly, you opened your mouth. “I… I wasn’t… you… you kept staring at… me as if you meant to… eat me alive!” You panted. Loki growled in an animalistic manner.
“Well, perhaps I will… but first, I need to have you. No one can know of this, yes?” He hissed—although it was phrased like a question, it downright sounded like a threat; and for some peculiar reason, even if your lack of keeping this encounter a secret would have serious consequences both for Loki and yourself, you had the feeling his personal punishment for you would involve nothing but pleasure.
You nodded, biting your lower lip as you did, for you could already feel his tip nudging your petals. Painfully slow, he parted them to give himself access, eliciting a moan from you as you threw your head back in pure bliss.
Loki wasted no time—if what he said was true and you had made him as hot and bothered as he had made you these past days, he must have been desperate for his release… and you could barely wait for him to take it from you, to use your hot cave, claim you and make you his… you were certain you were not going to be left out in the cold. At this point, he had already gotten you worked up so much it would take only a few strokes of his skilled fingers to bring you to the edge of pleasure and make you cum underneath him.
“Please, Loki…” You did not know if you were even entitled to call him by his name but in this very second, you could not care less. You whimpered when he finally pushed inside you, defeating what little resistance your body offered despite your wetness and burying himself inside your core.
Your walls clenched around him at once, moulding around him as if you had been made for his cock. Had he known you would feel this good, he would have dragged you into his bed much sooner. His fingers intertwined with yours, his mouth capturing yours in a passionate kiss once more, but only when you wrapped your legs around his hips to urge him on did he start moving inside you. He retreated almost entirely only to plunge himself inside of you again almost roughly, desperate for relief.
There was no pain really, the unfamiliar feeling quickly replaced with a tingly feeling spreading in your entire body. Finally… this was so much different from masturbating, so much different from secretly stealing a carrot or a cucumber from the kitchens to feel filled.
Loki thrust into you viciously, his hot breath against your lips and your whimpers fuelling his own arousal. Moaning shamelessly, you bucked your hips up to meet his strokes, your back arching as your body climbed the ladder of orgasm higher and higher. It was then he buried himself as deep inside you as he possibly could, the feeling both a little uncomfortable and arousing as he grinded against you, his pelvis rubbing against your clit. You could not help it, not any longer. Screaming his name, you came, your nails leaving angry scratch marks on his back, your peak of pleasure numbing your entire body. He too found his release. Groaning into your mouth, his hard member twitched against your tight walls, coating them with his warm seed. With but a few more thrusts helping you ride out both your climaxes, he collapsed on the bed but made sure to roll you both over so you came to lie on top of him instead.
For a few moments, his chambers were filled with nothing but your rapid breathing. Then, suddenly, he chuckled. This time, his smile was honest, content. “What an interesting turn of events…”
You giggled too, burying your face in his chest. He smelled wonderful. Like an autumn forest, ice and molten metal all at the same time.
“I will let my mother know that I prefer you as my chambermaid and that I would like to keep you permanently. That you will stick to your duties... from now on. Surely, we can come to an arrangement.”
“As you wish, your highness.”
Loki ranting
Okay. I had this thought in my head of like just compiling links of all the Loki shit I've posted/reblogged so far so that when I get into a conversation about the show and how it fucking disgusted me, I can just be like "here. here's this masterlist post, go read all this shit. This is my entire argument, and not only mine, but a lot of stuff posted by people far more intelligent and level-headed and eloquent than I am, whom I happen to agree with." Because the alternative is constantly getting fired up all over again, and that is exhausting.
BUT! I'm stupid and don't know how tumblr works. Apparently I can't just be like "give me all the Loki-tagged shit I've got" I can only search all the Loki-tagged shit on all of tumblr. And I'm not scrolling back through all of my posts. I talk too fucking much for that shit 😂
So, I'll try to remember all of my grievances with how the MCU has treated Loki, and all of the excellent posts made by other, equally upset fans, and put it all together here under this nice, neat little cut for everyone else's sanity and scrolling convenience...
For people who actually read my shit fairly regularly - bless you, you crazy, patient people. I love you! - this is going to be a lot of repetition of shit you've already read. Probably at least twice. I'm passionate and I have a terrible memory lol. Sorry.
Anyway, first, for those who don't know me and haven't been following my explosions of rage for the past couple of months, some quick background: I do not read comic books, so Loki's Marvel comic canon means nothing to me. I know almost nothing about it. The reason I'm so in love with the character in the MCU is because I am an eclectic witch and the deity I've actively loved and worshiped the longest in my life (literally for as long as I can remember) is Loki. So when he was mentioned in The Mask, I squeed. When they named Matt Damon's character after him in Dogma, I cheered.
When Thor came out in 2011, I just about died from happiness. I was hungry for any representation of this underappreciated god, no matter what it was. I didn't even bitch about how underpowered he was, because at least he was there. But I'm getting slightly ahead of myself.
I can hear anyone reading this going "Why Loki? Isn't he, like, evil? Like basically the Norse version of The Devil?" Because I heard all this shit irl all the fucking time. And no. So let me give you a quick rundown of who Loki actually is.
Loki is a Trickster God. He's often referred to as the God of Mischief. He is not and never was evil, simply chaotic and hedonistic. Loki Laufeyjarson was the son of Laufey (that's mama; they changed her to a man for some reason in the movie) and Fárbauti. Right from the start, from his name, we get a sign of how Loki goes against traditional norms of the time, because in Norse culture, families were patrilineal, and surnames were "son/daughter of father" (which would have made him Loki Fárbautitason), not the mother. But Loki's surname is matrilineal. Feminist icon woo! lol
Though he's a Jotunn, Loki is counted among the Gods (Aesir) in Norse tradition. Depending on his mood, he is alternately helpful or disruptive to the other Gods. I'm not gonna sit and teach a whole text class on him lol but I'll use my favorite example of Misunderstood Loki - the conception of Sleipnir!
So, get this shit. This is also part of why I DO NOT follow Odin and never fucking will (a very small part, but still part of the reason). So, the other Norse Gods are petty motherfuckers, and they wanted some shit built but didn't want to pay the dude doing the building. So they were like "okay, if you can get it done in X amount of time, we'll pay you, but if you can't manage it NO MATTER WHAT, this whole thing is free." And they made sure he had NO help, nothing but him, his materials, and his Very Good Horsey. And this guy and his horse were fucking BAMFs. So it was looking like he was definitely gonna get it done in time, and Odin was like "nah, fuck that shit. I'm cheap." and so he sent Loki to distract the work horse. Loki transformed into a mare and lured the horse away, got fucked, got pregnant, gave birth to the 8-legged (for some reason) horse Sleipnir. Odin rides Loki's son into battle. Um. Kay.
So Loki helped Odin be a petty mf, and Odin got himself a new pet out of the deal.
Oh, also, because he's smart af and a shapeshifter and a master magician and genderfluid, Loki "fails" to fit the super fucking toxic and narrow Norse/Aesir view of "a real man". He prefers intelligence and manipulation to solve problems rather than violence, he's not afraid to behave like a clown if it gets shit done, and that grosses the Aesir out, so they constantly ridicule him for being "less than a man".
Loki is the God of the outcast and the misunderstood. The marginalized people from all walks of life. He is the God of the LGBT community. In modern terms, he's pansexual, polyamorous (married to Sigyn and they are deeply in love, but boy gets around and I've never seen any indication that Sigyn gives a shit) and genderfluid.
Okay. Focus, Ali. This is part of why I usually post multiple rants instead of one big long one XD The longer I ramble, the more I get sidetracked and forget the original point.
So. Loki's awesome, and being a Trickster, is powerful as all fucking hell. There's not much he can't do.
And now we come to Thor (the movie, not the deity). Loki's there! 24-year-old Ali is spazzing! All is right with the world!
Oh lord, they've actually done him justice?! Amazing! He's complex and nuanced and emotional, just like the real Loki! I loved this movie. Loved. It. The climactic thing with trying to blow up Jotunheim never really made much sense to me until someone made an excellent point the other day about Loki being raised in a racist society that was racist against his own race, he just didn't know it yet, poor child. Baby Thor was never corrected when he pledged to commit mass genocide, so Baby Loki probably absorbed the lesson then that Jotunns=evil and killing them all will win his father's love. Anyway, 2011 Loki was a beautiful, heartbreaking portrayal of the God I've loved all my life and spent 24 years longing to see depicted on the big screen.
Then The Avengers happened. And I saw another Loki very close to Norse mythology - mainly, how he's treated. In the beginning of the movie, he's sick, exhausted, and in pain. He can hardly stand, he stumbles and needs help when he walks. He was very obviously tortured, and the sickly blue light of the scepter's control is in his eyes. That gets less and less pronounced as the movie goes on, showing Loki working his way free of it, but in the beginning, he's a mess. Because he was tortured and used by Thanos. Marvel directly confirmed this, and that he was under the scepter's/Mind Stone's control. Loki's actions are not his own in The Avengers. He's under both threat and Thanos' direct control. The movie actually shows The Other directly threatening him to keep him on task, because this is not Loki's plan. It is not what he wants. He's being used and villainized... Just like in real life. It hurt to see this done to him, but the accuracy was too beautiful to ignore.
Thor: The Dark World comes out. I've heard people complain that this movie is the weak link in the Thor trilogy. I disagree. I think that's Ragnarok, for a bunch of reasons, but we'll get there. (And for the record, I loved Ragnarok, too. It was a funny movie. Infinity War and the Disney+ series are the only portrayals of Loki in the MCU that I truly fucking hated.) Anyway, good, fun movie. Had its faults, as all movies do, but it still followed Loki's real-life arc in a way. How? By having Loki dragged back to Asgard in chains and imprisoned underground. Again, not super happy that this happened to my love, and having to see it on screen was painful, but at least in the MCU he's not chained to a rock with venom dripping on his face for eternity, so there's that. (poor Sigyn. how tired do her arms get, holding up that bowl? best wife ever, amirite?)
In TDW, we're shown Loki's love for Frigga, who favored him and taught him magic as a child. We see his bravado; his attempts to mask his true feelings, especially grief. We see him slowly coming back to himself after the events of The Avengers, and slowly mending his relationship with his brother. He accepts that Odin will likely never love him, but Thor just might, because they were close when they were young. "I didn't do it for him." No, no my sweet, you did it for your brother, and a little out of guilt for what happened to your mother.
At the end, Loki fakes his death and escapes, taking the throne, and I have mixed feelings about this. Not the writer's choices here; I love that completely! A natural progression in Loki's story. But my joy is tainted by how closely they're following the Eddas now. Because Loki's escape from his prison heralds the beginning of Ragnarok. And Loki will die in Ragnarok. I don't want to see that play out in front of my face. I won't be able to handle the grief (spoiler alert! IW broke me. I almost walked out of the theater. Loki's death was legitimately fucking traumatic for me. I don't even care how pathetic that is. That grief was real, it was intense, and I still shake and cry when I think about it.)
Marvel announces that Thor 3 will be called Ragnarok. The internet treats this as a shocking revelation. I roll my eyes and mumble "duh" to myself and move on XD
Then they say Ragnarok will be a buddy comedy. I throw up a little in my mouth and no longer want to live on this planet. If they're going to make something called Ragnarok, could they at least treat it with even a fraction of the respect they've shown these characters thusfar? Jfc. I mean, I'll see it anyway, because I'm a whore for Tom Hiddleston lol. But come on, people!
I hated that they made Hel the long-lost older sister and Fenrir her fucking pet/attack dog. Those are my favorites of Loki's children! Hel is such an incredible badass that the early Christians named their dimension of eternal torture after her! They were terrified of her, to the point of naming the place that terrified them most after her. That's awesome! And Fenrir's just the best. I love wolves. Those two details, and Odin's retcon of "we're not Gods! ...lol, except your sister. she's totally a Goddess. and def gonna kill literally everything, so... good luck! byyyeeeee" pissed me off royally.
The rest was great. I genuinely liked this movie. Still do. And they finally used The Immigrant Song! That was pretty cool. If they'd thrown in Bring the Hammer Down and Thunderstruck, I might've called this movie perfect. XD
I wasn't totally in love with their portrayal of Loki in Ragnarok. Yes, the falling for 30 minutes line was funny, as was "I have to get off this planet" and "YES! That's how it feels!" And "Get Help" was funny as hell. But also, like... There is no way Loki would have been the dumb one in that first encounter with Hela. Also, he can teleport and project copies of himself and shit, so... He would not have been that desperate to go straight back to Asgard and bring her right along with them. Loki's not stupid. But whatever. Movie's gotta movie.
What I did love was seeing the slow mending of his relationship with Thor continuing, and the badass fighting on the bridge. I also loved that, like Real Loki, Movie Loki helped when help was needed, was quick and clever, and while he was carrying out the main plan, he was also planning ahead and grabbing the Tesseract. Yes, that drew Thanos right to them, but that's a whole other thing. Loki never would have left that thing on Asgard to be destroyed or lost.
And now Infinity War. Hooooly fucking shit. You know what? No. I'm not going into this. He was killed, years of character growth were erased forever, my heart fucking shattered. The end.
Endgame. IW hurt me so bad I didn't see Endgame until this year. I actually watched Civil War first (for context: I had actively avoided all Cap movies until this year because I fucking hate Steve Rogers. I find him insufferable. Did not realize what I was denying myself until I watched CW and finally saw the charms of Bucky. When he appeared in IW, I was so lost. XD I was like "...who dis? Murder Jesus?" also I just... didn't care. I was numb by then from crying through most of the movie over Loki)
So, anyway. Endgame. Loki picks up the Tesseract in alternate 2012, escapes, fans go "yay! he didn't actually die!" I go "yes he fucking did. Five years of his life, gone. Five years of growth and change, erased. Loki is dead. This will not be the same."
I was more right than I could have predicted. Now we come to the point of this rant. Sorry it took so long, but you were warned lol.
The Loki series makes me so angry I actually get sick to my stomach. It was fucking TRASH. When I praised Marvel for following Norse mythology so faithfully earlier? Yeah. I DID NOT MEAN TREAT HIM THE WAY THE OTHER GODS DID. I did not mean paint him as a pitiful clown, a joke, a caricature of who he truly was, with his pain and suffering played for LAUGHS.
This is supposed to be 2012 Loki, newly freed from Thanos' control. The Loki we saw in the beginning of TDW - snarky, exhausted, nihilistic. The Loki who rolled his eyes and said "get on with it" expecting to be killed.
The bumbling clown flipping on a dime from posturing to calling himself weak is not 2012 Loki. That is not ANY Loki. That is Tom Hiddleston in a black wig doing what he's told by a shitty writer who had no fucking idea what he was doing and was salty about his (bad) original script (for something totally fucking unrelated) getting killed.
In Episode 1, Loki is mocked, imprisoned, stripped against his will, tormented, belittled, and given a flippant summary of all the trauma Actual MCU Loki suffered that this one skipped out on, with no context, no acknowledgement of the trauma he's already lived quite fucking recently, and with the narrative twisted to not only erase all the abuse he's suffered, but to make it all his fault. And this is supposed to make him want to help these people?
And worse, IT FUCKING WORKS. WHAT?! I CAN'T- FUCKING WHAT?! Remember when I said LOKI IS NOT FUCKING STUPID?! So why is he STUPID?
Episode 2, he's a child. Mentally, this Loki is a fucking child. Now we've erased all the growth and development of his entire adult life. He's dopey, impatient, impulsive, desperate for a pat on the back and actually shows it. Yes, abused and neglected children crave the positive attention we never received, and we often grow up to be a bit emotionally stunted. But not all of us, and not Loki. Not as we've seen him EVER in the rest of the MCU. Playful and a bit callous at times? Absolutely! But not a big dumb fucking puppy.
Episode 3, a ray of hope, despite Sylvie! (I hate Sylvie) Loki casually admits he's pan/bi; labels never come up, but he admits to being with both men and women! He sings! Not really relevant to whether I approve of his portrayal or not lol but Tom has a beautiful voice, Norwegian ("Asgardian" lol) is a gorgeous, entrancing language, and I could watch that one bit on loop for eternity and never get bored. And then, finally, we see a glimpse - a glimpse - of Loki's power! He stops a falling building and pushes it right back up! Are we finally getting to see what he can really do? Will the next episode bring us Loki in all his glory?
Nope. 4 and 5 we see him mocked and pushed around and utterly irrelevant. Again. We see tiny reflections of what he could maybe theoretically do in other random Loki variants, but the "main" (lawl. main. it was the Sylvie and Mobius show. Loki was never the main anything.) Loki? Nothing. He wears his heart on his sleeve for no reason, bonds with the man who imprisoned, taunted, and gaslit him, is killed, and continues to be a moron and a joke. Always the clown. Always the dumb one. The one with the bad ideas. The inferior Loki.
Don't even get me started on that finale. I can't. This already took so much out of me. Fuck Marvel. Fuck this fucking show. I just... I'm done.
1K written today, from this Loki concept thing, and also finally some dissertation writing.  (I can’t multitask, so I think I’m going to have to go “these days for the RA work, these days for the diss,” which, well.  As long as I get both done.)  Didn’t actually, uh, leave the house?  I was in the zone.  Had some kind of fannish existential crisis.  Made a giant batch of sausage and tomato risotto.  (Probably should have used different tomatoes than the ones I did, since this goes better with diced tomatoes than crushed tomatoes, but the latter is what I had in the house.)
Snippet from family reunion concept 1.  Do I know where I’m going with it?  Uh, no.  But I’m having fun with it.
Loki could stand any number of humiliations for himself and had been well-prepared to stand a few more until he could get out of this rat hole.  But to see Frigga the Golden, the Allmother, Queen of Asgard, his mother – to find her here, stripped of her silks and jewels, her hair unbound and falling in loose curls down her back, in the same awful jumpsuit that he was wearing, and the same damned collar –
A collar.  On his mother.
Loki could have ripped the TVA apart with his bare hands.
“Loki!” his mother said, at the same time Mobius did.  She made a sharp movement in his direction, but the TVA hunter holding her kept her in place.  When she turned towards him, Loki saw the bruise on her cheekbone, new enough that it was still darkening, and the marks on her knuckles as if she had struck someone barehanded.
His mother knew how to fight.  She was the one who had taught him, after all.
He saw the images Mobius had shown him, his mother dead on the floor of her bower, and heard the man’s voice echoing, It happens again and again and again.
“It’s okay,” Mobius said hastily to the woman gripping his mother’s arm; Loki knew the sound of someone quickly adjusting their schemes when he heard it.  “We can give them a minute.”  To Loki, he said, “You have one minute.”
Loki didn’t need a full minute, but he was happy to let Mobius and his comrade think so as the man released him.  Because he was looking for it, he saw the swift movement of his mother’s bruised hand as the hunter reluctantly loosed her grip and let Frigga come to him.
Despite his intentions, he hesitated at the last moment, unsure of his reception before his mother wrapped her arms around him. “Oh, Loki,” she said, her hands fisted against his back.
What's your take on Thor Ragnarok? What's your take on Thor's development within the MCU so far?I'm a fan of your posts and tags!
GREAT QUESTIONS THANK YOU FOR ASKING, THANKS FOR BEING A FAN
tldr I """"like"""" Thor's canon development now bc I've done some fucking Olympic grade backfilling and contortion to recontextualize the canon to make it meaningful, but this results in me living in my own pocket universe of an interpretation where I can't really interact with other people bc they don't subscribe to my exact reading of canon
But bro I LOVE Ragnarok. I know that can be a controversial take (I've read the meta of people who think it "slaughtered" Thor and Loki's characterisations), but I just thought it was so much fun! Like on a movie watching experience level and on a lore/meta level, it's FUN. That's not something I can say for 95% of marvel movies, which are nigh universally too dimly lit and too reliant on hateful sarcasm between characters as a substitute for a relationship.
On a meta level, I 1000% subscribe to the idea that the entire movie is a retelling that Thor is preforming for his refugees, so it's a heavily edited, exaggerated, and sillier version of events meant to keep everyone's spirits up. On the point of lore continuity, I really appreciate that thor3 makes CANON and EXPLICIT Odin's campaign of imperialist violence behind his "peaceful" reign over the nine realms, I FUCKIN LOVE IT. I LOVE the context Hela gives to their family, because she makes canon and explicit Odin's disappointments in Thor. I LOVE that Mjolnir was Hela's weapon before it was Thor's because Mjolnir was never meant to be a metric for moral goodness or readiness for rule, but a metric for a colonialist's commitment to imperialist violence on behalf of an empire WHICH IS WHY IT FINDS CAPTAIN AMERICA WORTHY BUT NOT LOKI
(btw if anyone else can draw a line between Hela and Steve Rogers that is a. representative of Odin's priorities and b. includes Thor but excludes Loki, hmu, bc this is the best I got.)
(Mjolnir rejects Thor in thor1 bc Thor was trying to conquer Jotunheim for personal glory and doesn't accept him again until he starts thinking about the good of the empire again by protecting Midgard, an imperial asset. Mjolnir rejects Loki bc Loki is a not an imperialist in service of an empire)
Off topic but I know a lot of people get hung up on Thor leaving Loki paralyzed in the parking garage, potentially to be found by the grandmasters dudes? Like people say that was unaccountably cruel and ooc for Thor. But like, ok, they killed everyone on the way up, and Thor knows his armed gladiator rebellion is on his heels also headed for the parking garage, so I dunno, I never read it as Loki was in any particular danger? But I'm a notorious Thor apologist as well as a Loki apologist so 🤷‍♂️
Things I also love: loki defunding the military to spend that money on art and infrastructure, Loki's live action thorki fanfic that Asgard unaccountably loved, Loki stonewalling Odin's attempt to reconcile bc fuck Odin, Thor's lightning powers, Bruce banner is now a Jewish grandma, Hela have I mentioned Hela love that girlboss, Jeff goldblum love that wiggly man, the Valkyrie love that angry girl, "piss off ghost", inglorious deaths for all the warriors 3, "I'm here" (screaming, crying, shaking), the story about how Loki bit Thor as a snake as well as the confirmation that they are in fact the same age
I have complicated feelings about Thor's canon development tbh. On a very ground floor sort of reaction, I despise what they did to My Boy in infinity war and endgame. I think it's a disgusting character assassination and I don't think the russos understand humour and specifically how to use humour to expand on tragedy like what thor3 did.
On the other hand, if you've read my fic and meta, you'll know that I've accepted the canon development, bc at this point, I've done a LOT of very deliberate and concerted labour to MAKE the canon development we see between thor1 and endgame WORK. But, like, there was a LOT of labour that I, specifically, put into it. It fully relies on me specifically doing a lot of digging and reaching and mining these movies for every possible frame of content to the point where I am pretty sure I've put more effort into making all the development make continuous sense than any of the screenwriters put into the actual development.
And I think I've probably just drank too much of my own Kool aid but like, I am in a position now where I do think my interpretation of Thor's character development is THE most complete and accurate reading of his character development. Key to these points are: a) I think he is an ex-imperialist who is currently and actively trying to deprogram himself from the colonialists' mindset that Odin instilled within him b) he is trying to deprogram himself from Asgard's culture of extreme toxic masculinity wherein he was not taught to have any sort of emotional processing that did not involve physical violence c) Loki is/was/always will be the person he loves best
So like, as I try to show in my thorki canonverse fics (shameless plug for myself), I can make most of the bad decisions made about Thor's character in infinity war and endgame work if I recontextualize all of his canon actions with my own (well supported, well documented) headcanon'd baggage. Of course he goes on a death wish mission to get revenge on Thanos -- he has a literal deathwish bc he was already supposed to die with Loki. Of course he sinks into an unshakeable depression afterwards -- he has no identity now that he has no family bc he was never taught to live by himself or for himself. Of course he leaves new Asgard and abdicates his rule -- he hasn't wanted a hand in the dirty business of Empire ever since Odin's ambition got his mom and brother killed in thor2, and that hasn't changed. I try to make him go through all the canon-implied feelings and anxieties and doubts in front of the reader. My entire goal of this is that people read my shit, then look at canon and think "oohh that context DOES make it better!" I will be gratified if that is the case.
(The only thing I cannot fix is the bit in endgame where Thor walks past Loki's Tupperware cell and the narrative doesn't come to a screeching fucking halt as Thor has so many feelings that he has some sort of paralytic breakdown where he simultaneously wants to commit Time Crime (tm) so he can just stay here forever and also wishes he could just die here, next to loki, like he was always supposed to. Like, that needed to happen to really lynchpin all of my work together into one smooth, problem free reading, but I'm not allowed to have nice things so)
(oh also I didn't like Thor calling frigga "mom". Shouldn't it at least be "mum"? I think "mother" is best tbh, bc I don't really read them as having that sort of relationship, see "toxic masculinity", see also "homosocial socialisation")
(and ok I get that it was a nice moment for Thor to call the hammer back to his hand, and I get that it even still works with my headcanon that mjolnir finds Thor worthy still bc Thor is defending the imperial asset that is Midgard, but like God damnit. The uncritical and unquestioning use of that word "worthy" when he catches the hammer again. Like worthy of what you guys? Do you ever ask yourself that question bc I very much do. I kinda wish they didnt bring it up at all, or if they did, it didn't come back to Thor's hand and he is just like, wistfully, "that's all right, I suspected as much. I'm such a different man now, mjolnir doesn't recognize me. I don't think I'd be alive right now if I had been the same man I was")
Wow that got long, anyway, thanks for chatting with me! Again, always a pleasure to field asks!
Y/N stood as her measurements were taken. She tend just stood there like a fish out of water. She felt so out of place here. Never had she gotten her measurements done. That was always what her sisters did. Got dressed and went to fancy events. Well, now that she thought of it, she got measurements done before her eldest sisters wedding as she was marrying someone who was apart of the Court. That was when she met Loki. The two of them complete over everything that was happening. He was only there because Thor was friends with the member of the Court and he dragged Loki to come along. She remembers how she laughed and said how she was only there because her sister was the bride. Otherwise she would be at home curled up and reading a book.
“Milady, we are done. We will come and find you at another time to let you see what the dress will be looking like.”
Y/N nodded and took the hand of the handmaiden, Siv, that was given to her by Frigga, and stepped down. There was a knock on the door as Siv was helping Y/N to put her gown back on. She heard the door shut as Siv finished tying the back. “Lady Y/N? The All-Father sent one of his personal guards to come and take you to him.”
Y/N sighed, she didn’t know what he wanted, but she knew it probably wasn’t anything good. “Alright, give me a second.” She looked at Siv, “Go find Frigga and ask her if there is anything she needs you to do.”
Siv nodded, “Of course Milady!” She ran out of the door and went to find Frigga.
Y/N walked over to the door and looked at the guard. “Lead the way.”
--------
Y/N felt as if the guard was silently judging her the whole time she walked with him. But then once she was kneeling in front of the All-Father and his court’s gaze, she just felt like everything and everyone in the room was starring and judging her. “You called upon me All-Father.”
“You are mean to marry Loki by the end of the week, correct?”
She was confused by his comment but nodded, “Yes sir.”
“Are you aware that I can stop it?”
She felt her heart pick up, “I’m sorry?”
“If I deem you unworthy.”
“Unworthy of what?”
“Being apart of this family. And possibly even Queen.”
“Oh.”
“I have a few questions.”
“Yes?”
“Why do you wish to marry Loki?”
“I love him.”
“Will you still love him even if he commits a crime?”
“Of course.”
“If he is not made King?”
“I’ve never expected to be Queen so of course.”
“What is the cause for Ragnarok? I’m sure you were taught that.”
“The crown of Surtur being placed into the eternal flame.”
“Who all must you kneel to in the Asgardian family?”
“Just you. I simply bow at Queen Frigga and Princes Thor and Loki.”
He asked more questions. Each getting increasingly harder to answer. Every once and a while she would hear a click after she answered a question. “Ander, take Lady Y/N away and have go back to what she was.”
Ander, a guard she was familiar with came and walked her out of the room. “Where would you like me to take you?”
“Frigga wanted me to meet her in her chambers.” Ander nodded and lead her down the hallway to go to the room. As she walked down the hallway she questioned why Odin asked all of those questions. Why he mentioned that he could easily call off her and Loki’s wedding. It made no sense to her.
Sometime while she was walking she failed to notice the two princes gaze on her as they saw her.
“Loki, why is Lady Y/N walking with Ander?”
“I have no clue. But it looks as if they just came from the throne room.”
“Perhaps Father wanted to speak with her.”
Loki knew that meant something was bad if that was true. Who knew what his father had said to her now.
--------
Y/N walked down the streets with Frigga and on of Odin’s guards. She stopped, however, when a small child ran into her. She bent down and helped the kid up. Dusting off the dirt from their tunic. She smiled, “Are you alright?”
The kid looked up, eyes wide when they made eye contact. “You-you’re...”
“Oh dear! There you are!” A women swopped the kid up into her arms. “Are you okay.” The lady turned to Y/N, “I am so sorry. She just escaped my sights for a second!”
Y/N smiled again, “It’s alright.”
The lady gasped, “Lady Y/N!”
Y/N froze. She was used to everyone in the palace calling her it, but the people who lived in the rest of Asgard? No, she wasn’t used to it and believes she never could be.
She felt Frigga’s hand on her shoulder, “She’s still getting used to people calling her that. As she has only been engaged to Loki for a week now.”
The lady bowed her head, “Of course Milady.”
Y/N finally spoke, “You don’t have to call me ‘Lady Y/N’, Y/N alone is just fine.”
“Are you sure?”
Y/N nodded lightly, “Yes.”
“Very well, we must get going.” Frigga lightly pulled Y/N away.
“Wait!” Y/N stopped and Frigga looked at her confused. Y/N turned back to the lady, pulling a few coins out. “How many flowers will this get?”
“I’m sorry?”
“I just...I saw you earlier, selling those flowers,” She motioned to the basket, “And was wondering if I could buy a few.”
“Each flower is a singular coin.”
“Well then, why don’t I buy one and you keep the rest of the money.”
“Oh I could never!”
“Please.”
The lady smiled, “Two then. One for you and one for the Queen.” She looked at Frigga, “If that is alright with you of course.”
Frigga smiled, “Of course.”
“Alright,” She grabbed two flowers, Y/N was handed a lavender rose while Frigga a pink rose. Y/N traded the change for the flower. “Thank you so much.”
Y/N nodded lightly, “It is no issue. I love flowers anyways.” She placed the flower behind her ear, “Have a good day.” She turned from the lady and started to walk again. Frigga walking next to her. A smile on her face.
--------
Y/N collapsed onto her bed. It felt like she could do nothing right. First she gets chastised for getting lost. Then for talking to a ‘commoner’ as if she wasn’t one. Then for trying to ‘interrupt’ an import session between Loki and someone in Odin’s court. Then for not talking enough. Then for talking to much. It was as if she could do nothing to please Odin. It was 3 days before the wedding and she was even more stressed than she should be. With Odin testing and judging everything she does. To not being able to really see or talk to Loki. To being thrown around trying to make sure everything was going good for the wedding. At this point she was wondering if perhaps she should just sneak off with Loki and they do this without anyone else there.
--------
Once again Y/N was kneeling in front of Odin and his court. “Many times this week you have done exactly what you should not do if you are to marry Loki.” Y/N was waiting for it. Odin to inform her to get out and that she was not allowed to marry Loki. “However, I see just how much you care and love Loki. Just as he does you. It reminds me of Frigga and I when we were younger.” She fully looked at Odin, he was smiling lightly, something he never had done before. “You may still marry my son. Now go on and do whatever else is needed of you.”
She stood slowly and bowed her head, “Thank you, my king.”
He nodded, “Of course.”
She turned and walked out of the room. Holding back a smirk as most of the court looked shocked. She knew full well that only about 2 of the members actually liked her and wanted her to marry Loki. The rest wished for her to go back to the village and be a simple book keeper again.
--------
Y/N curled up on her bed. Grabbing the pillow and pulling to to her face. Tears silently falling from exhaustion. She felt like she was pulled thin because of everything going on the past few days. The wedding was in 2 days and she just felt drained of everything. From making sure the dress fitted correctly to her body. To the wedding preparations. To Odin testing her over everything. Only even seeing Loki during dinner, but even then she barely got to speak to him because Frigga was usually speaking to her and Thor was keeping Loki preoccupied. This was actually the first night she didn’t just pass out from the exhaustion. She felt a small bit of pride due to this.
Y/N felt the bed dip a small amount and soon felt Loki’s chill hand moving hair from her face. Kissing her cheek lightly. She moved lightly to face him. Not even trying to hide the exhaustion. He gave her a small smile, “Hi.”
“Hey.”
“What’s wrong.”
“Everything.”
“Want to talk about it?”
She shook her head, “I just feel better with you being here.”
He wrapped his arms around her quietly, “Then I will be.”
It’s Fate •||• Loki x Reader
Tumblr media
WORD COUNT: 3025
Loki stepped into the shadows of the forest, holding his breath and melting into his armor. He wasn’t sure if it was even worth it to go into the Forest of Ydraggsil. But the cosmos were born there, in the “branches” he had been taught about. Loki knew that the answer to his very soul was written in the songs the ruffling leaves sang. His heart hammered in his rib cage as he let out a shaky breath.
He scratched his palms with worry, closing his eyes in thought. He could prove that he was his brother’s equal . . . worthy of being more than just a Jotun. No matter what Odin had said, no matter what Frigga said, he was just not what either of them said. He couldn't be what Frigga had thought he was. He wasn’t even close enough to be as good as she thought. He was much more than Odin had said. Loki could prove that. He just needed to know...
Would it be worth it if he couldn’t?
Child, a beautiful voice of the Norns whispered. That startled him. The Norns were silent, spoke in riddles and curses. But he could just. . . . Tell. He hadn’t expected to hear that. She continued, What brings you to where souls are born and fate is scripted?
Loki swallowed, stepping in to the wood. “Uncertainty,” he says meekly, eyes welling with tears. “And losing the will . . . the will to live.” He sank to his knees. “I beg of you, help me find my place in the world.”
He knew that it was selfish to ask the Norns to give him things, things that not even they could change. He would be cursed for such confident brattiness. He held his head high in the sky, watching the cosmos conflict, purple and blue and green explode and tear at each other. Green smoke curled around his body. Loki had to refrain from panicking, trying his hardest not to scream in fear, not to sob from the pain of his broken soul.
The leaves rustled. He breathed deeply, his heart rate painfully fast. His neck hurt from the rush of blood. His heart kept crying out in the lonely longing for companionship.
Just a place in the world? Nothing else? She sounded. . . . Expectant. Like men who had braved the branches before had always asked for proud things. Wisdom; strength; a lady’s hand. Loki just wanted not to be alone.
A tear slips from his eye. “Give me my glory back. . . . Give me someone who will love me. . . .”
Loki Laufeyson, the Norns whispered with a reassuring tone, you’ll find someone who loves you. It’s fate.
Loki swallowed, gasping some. That was a lie; wasn’t it? It had to be. He wiped his eyes. He sat there, staring at the ground. One day, he would. One day. He tried to swallow his fears. But it didn’t work.
The cosmos rippled again, a woman’s laugh ringing through his ears. Not the Norn who had spoke, it wasn’t Hers. This laugh. . . . It stung. Loki covered his ears. No one he cared for loved him back. He started to hyperventilate. The laughing got louder and louder.
No. No. “Please. . . . Make it stop,” he whispered, squeezing his eyes shut. The smoke curled around his body. His skin turned blue.
“You’re a dirty, evil Jotun,” Thor’s voice taunted somewhere. Loki stood, looking around for his brother. “Did you really believe that the Norns would help you?”
“Stop this illusion!” he pleaded. Loki spun around, hoping to find something. This had to be a lie. “Stop!”
“What illusion, my son? You’re seeing the truth,” Odin called, coming from a different direction. He turned toward the sound, hoping that his father wouldn’t scoff at him, punish him. Tears fell faster. Streamed. His father’s cold voice.
“Father—,” Loki tried, caving in and panicking.
“I’m not your father!” Loki flinched, raising his arms in protection as he stumbled back from the invisible people pushing him.
“No!” Loki cried. “NO!”
---------- -*- ----------
I sat bolt right up in my bed, chest heaving and sweat drenching my body. I looked over to my side. A beautiful woman. My panic melted quickly, but my fears didn’t. I was next to my fiancée. She gently pushed me back down.
“Loki, shhh,” she soothed. “It was all a dream. You’re safe.” I rested my head on her shoulder. She ran her hands through my hair affectionately.
“Oh, Bryleigh,” (Bry-lee) I sigh, hugging her gently. “It was the same dream as last time. . . . With th-the forest . . . you have no idea—”
Her hazel eyes and blonde hair were strangely lit from the moonlight in the window. I had never been more grateful for her. I sigh again, kissing her once, twice, three times. Bryleigh pulled away, resting her forehead against mine.
“It’s okay. Go back to sleep. I love you,” she said, rubbing my back. “We have to both work tomorrow, so we should go back to sleep.” I nodded in agreement. I would have to explain to my secretary, (Y/N) why I was late.
Oh, no. I sat up. I practically scrambled to get dressed. “Honey, what are you doing?” Bryleigh asked. I checked my cellphone. Truly a magical mortal instrument, the cellular telephone. 2:35. I still had thirty minutes.
“Picking (Y/N) up at the airport,” I said, my tongue between my teeth as pull on a shirt. “I lost a bet, so I had to chauffeur her to and from her flight.” I laughed, face hot from remembering her smile. Oh, (Y/N) was adorable. Like my little sister. And I didn’t have to actually chauffeur her; I just wanted to. But Bryleigh wouldn’t have let me.
“Wait; the trip she went on that you funded for her birthday? You spoil her, Loki,” she says, voice riddled with distaste. She sat up in bed. I rolled my eyes.
“Bryleigh, she’s going to be my best woman.” I pulled on my shoe and grabbed my keys on the nightstand. “You better get used to the godmother of your children being around my house.” Bryleigh gaped, looking at me with an offense with an origin I couldn’t place.
“What?” I ask.
“Since when is that bi—” I cut her off, giving her a glare. Good feeling gone. I truly adored my fiancée, but I simply could not stand it when she picked on (Y/N). Especially when she did that.
“Biiiiii-eautiful woman I have adopted as my sister,” I say, narrowing my eyes. “I’m sick of you acting like a jerk to her.”
Bryleigh flopped back down. I kissed her forehead goodbye. “If you loved me, Loki, you’d see she's just evil!” She smiled softly and tiredly. I rolled my eyes.
“Evil? That is a new one,” I comment, kissing her and rushing out the door. Before our bedroom door closed, I heard her scoff. Something in me stirred, both at the thought of Bryleigh making nasty statements about (Y/N), and (Y/N) herself.
-----skip-----
“Flight from [Place you've wanted to visit] now unloading at Platform 9.”
The PA announcements seemed to fly by since the time I got there, but that one I paid attention to. I was almost eager to find her. I was speeding past every person I passed, even doing 360s to see if I could locate her. Her smile, her hands, ruffling her hair.
I passed through crowds, hearing the TSA yelling at someone, kids crying—or was it the other way around?— and twisting and weaving through people to Platform 9. “Where could she be?” I whisper to myself.
Something about all this turning reminded me about going to the Forest of Ydraggsil. But without all the fright; just really confusing and overwhelming and something missing. I didn’t mind. My heart was pounding with excitement. (Y/N) would be in this building somewhere.
“Loki!” I heard her call. I got reminded of my dream, but it didn’t scare me as much as it should have.
I whipped around, beaming when I saw her. She had a rolling suitcase and messy hair; she must have fallen asleep on the plane. I ran to her, lifting her up. She dropped her suitcase as I held her. I spun her with glee.
“You missed me that much, Loki?” She wrapped her arms around my neck, standing closely when I set her down. It was probably because my arms were still around her. (Y/N)’s hands rested within my elbows as she unwrapped her arms.
“Of course, I missed you. Who do you take me for?” I laughed softly, my head spinning slightly as I realized just how tired I was. I also realized that I didn’t care. About anything.
I didn’t care about how mad I had made Bryleigh. I didn’t care about the time. I just wanted. . . .
Oh, no.
But I just couldn’t stop smiling. (Y/N) was the only thing I could see. I was here, with her, no where else.
“I kinda took you for a stubborn prince,” she joked, hands moving again to my shoulders. “You know, the kind that didn’t pick favorites without doing it so subtly, and throwing knives, and doing favors reluctantly. Not picking up your secretary because she asked you to at three in the morning and taking you away from your fiancée.”
“I don’t care what she thinks,” I blurt. She blushed, and so did I. But I stupidly kept going. “I don't want to marry her.”
She stepped out of my arms. “Loki, what are you talking about?” I grew idiotically confident, taking her hands. “Loki?”
“I was such a fool,” I laugh, looking at her. I press the heel of my hand to my forehead. “I’m not in love with her.”
It was all clicking into place, now. The constant dreams of looking for her. The wedding dreams, too, with her in white. It wasn’t just paranoia. And all the times I would feel that awful knot in my gut when she spoke of other men. I gaze into her eyes.
“It’s you.”
She shook her head, “Loki, I — I can’t just—”
“(Y/N) you can’t pretend that you don’t feel this,” I continue. I bring her luggage out with her. “Actually, it all makes sense now.” But as much as I’m grinning, she’s only standing in shock.
“Darling?”
Your POV
Okay. Seeing Loki was already amazing. But now you were sure that one of you had gone crazy, or that you were dreaming.
“What? Loki, you can’t just say things like that!” You felt your face heat up at the delirious Loki’s practically random confession. Your hands and legs were shaking. Yes, you loved him, too, but what about Bryleigh? They had sent wedding invitations already!
“Why not? Better now than in a month, (Y/N),” he said. He opened the door for you. You got in his car. He definitely looked crazed, loopy. But he was happy.
You study him for a second, a thought coming to light almost immediately. He seemed carefree, distracted. He revved up the engine and grinned at you. You knew exactly what he seemed like to you, now that you thought on it.
He was like a bachelor.
“You didn’t!” you gasp. “You didn’t break up with her, did you?!”
“No, but I will. Even if you decide you don’t want me as a friend or a romantic partner. The only person who I can imagine marrying would be you.” He laughs, driving you to your house. You gape at Loki. He really had gone mad.
Not only was he head over heels with you out of the blue, he thought he would marry you. Or, at least he wanted to. Your heart sank.
It all made sense now.
“Loki,” you say quietly. “I’m seeing Steve. From economics.” You ducked your head. He loved you. And you couldn’t see him as anything more than a friend, or a brother. You fiddled with your shirt’s hem.
Loki frowned some, but quickly regained his smile. Except it was fake. You could tell so easily. You shifted in the passenger seat, watching cars pass by. “Oh,” he whispers. “I understand.” You hated this, but you really preferred not to lie.
“I’m so sorry, Loki,” you mumbled. You hugged yourself. You wanted him happy, but you couldn’t be with him. It was the worst kind of lie. “We became an item about three weeks back but I asked him to keep quiet about it. I didn't want to cause any gossip.”
Loki nodded. “No, I totally understand. . . . I was meant to be alone. It’s fate.” His bottom lip quivered. You felt your heart break for your best friend. Then you wondered if he had been dreaming again. He had nightmares that Bryleigh made worse, and you were the only one he could tell them about. Really tell. You felt warm inside. He really was in love with you.
“Loki—,” you try.
“My immortal life was just . . . the worst. Now my mortal one is mirroring it,” he sighs. He gripped the wheel. Tightly. You saw his knuckles turn paper white. “I became cursed by the Norns. I made a mistake.”
“Loki, please, I am sure that you will find someone who will love you,” you try. You felt something in the back of your head tell you that this was a mistake, letting him go. But it was fate. You knew it. Loki was someone you felt for in the past. Never again.
“You know who I want,” he says. “This time, I won’t settle for something lesser.” He stared at the road. “I’m not getting any younger.”
Something lesser?
“Loki, really,” you sigh, “I’m not fantastic.”
“Steve sure thinks you are.”
“What?”
“You heard me.”
You growl, “That's low, even for you.” Loki doesn’t answer, just scoffing quietly.
You huff and cross your arms. Fiddle with the seat belt. “Just marry Bryleigh, okay? What do I care!” That came out harsher than you meant. Oops.
Loki pulled the car over so roughly you almost hit your head on the window. “Excuse me?” He turned to you. “What did you mean by that?” You felt your heart speed, but you had already turned him down.
“Just—take—me—home,” you say through gritted teeth.
“Tell me what that was about,” he protested. Loki rested his arm on the middle compartment, making you face him. Now you wanted to get mad at him and yourself. But he wasn’t your life, and he wasn’t ever going to be yours.
So who cared?
“It meant nothing,” you lie. “Nothing at all.” You shift in your seat, again. Look away from him. All the feelings you used to feel came rushing back, but without the affection they used to hold. You felt bitter about loving him before. A man who was engaged to be married. Now he could feel it, too.
“Oh, sure. You never told me you didn’t want me married, (Y/N).” He had flipped a switch. He went from giddy to hurt within seconds. But saying something as sudden and intimate as “I don’t want you to get married but I’m seeing someone else” would have to hurt anyone.
“Because at least you were happy, Loki!”
“I wasn’t, you knew that!”
“I don’t want to fight about your witch fiancée,” you grumble. “Take me home, Loki. I’ll resign in the morning.” You sit back, watching through the window the rest of the ride. This would need to be solved, but in what way, you didn’t know.
------------(:V)------------
You stepped out into a clearing. You saw Loki dressed in his armor—something he hadn’t worn since New York. Green smoke billowed around your feet. You couldn’t move anything, no matter how much you tried to run and help him. He was screaming about being sorry, apologizing to whomever was laughing and telling him he’d never know love.
You couldn’t scream. Couldn’t get him. You wanted him.
“Please, I just want someone—!” He was cut off by his own cry of fright. He fell to the ground. You hated feeling so helpless. No. No, you needed to help him. The smoke surrounding the both of you covered Loki, and then—
You sat up, horrified. You were going to be late. Loki would—
Loki. Right. You had fought with him the night before. He probably wouldn’t want to see you. . . . Unless that was a dream. Again. You sigh. No matter what you had told him last night, you weren’t seeing Steve. And you were in love with him.
You picked up the phone. There was only really one thing to do.
“Hello?” he answered tiredly. He sounded like someone who had been crying, or losing significant amounts of sleep. He also had a tone of worry in his voice. You felt your heart skip.
“I love you,” you say. You were rushing to get the wires out. “I don’t want you to marry Bryleigh. I’m sorry for everything I told you last night and I don’t care if you remember none of it; you deserve to know. I’m in love with you, I always have been, Bryleigh is and always was someone who was just so much better than I am, and even though I think you two can be happy together, I want you to myself!”
Just before you hang up from fear of his long silence, he says, “Wait, wait. You said you were seeing Steve. . . . I’m so confused. . . . Bryleigh walked out last night, calling the wedding off, anyway. I’m not getting married.”
You sat there for a minute. “What? Why?”
“Apparently I spent more time talking about you than she liked,” he explained. “But I’m not sure if I should anymore?”
“No. No, Loki, that’s great. I mean—it’s not great, but you didn’t have to break up with her. . . . I just . . . spent so long thinking about what you said. You were right: it is fate.”
He sniffs on the other end. “You picked a fantastic time to tell me, (Y/N).” He laughed. “For the record: I think you’re right. It is fate.”
Voiceless Love Chapter 8: Sweet Release
(Loki’s Route)
Loki x reader
Word count: 2712
Warnings: angst, swearing, fluff
Tag List: @caffeineoverloadandstudying @zizzlekwum @daddysfavoritesexkitten @buckylokisimp @lokiyoulittle @magicalpieex
A/N: So there is not a lot of reader in this chapter for some good reason. We're gonna focus on Loki for this and then the next chapter, the reader will be back more later. Also, for those picking this route over Bucky’s, this one will be a bit longer and more detailed. Much love!
Loki wakes up in his dungeon cell to the sound of metal sliding against metal. His food tray sits in front of the door as the sound of somebody walking away disappears. He crawls over to the food to devour it. Although he may be home, he doesn’t feel like it. The food is disgusting and there’s no sight of the lovely Asgard anywhere. Nothing feels the same.
Nothing has felt the same since he got back. You weren’t there to talk about books with him, play chess, or cuddle. He didn’t have your warm body to hold at night to keep him from being cold. Your voice didn’t wake him up every morning and your hands don’t brush his hair anymore. He finds himself dirty and matted, no one taking care of him or even caring to help him take care of himself. The pile of dirt in the corner of his cell is his only friend/company.
Loki has lost track of time, not sure whether it’s been months or weeks since he’s been gone. From Thor’s words, he knows you’re handling his absence as well as he’s handling yours. You’ve been hiding in your room the whole time, refusing to leave or talk to anyone else. He’s glad they’re trying to talk to you, but he’s nervous about what. He knows they don’t like him, they disapprove of their relationship and are probably telling her out of loving him. Ignoring the terrible thoughts, he’s distracted by the door opening.
Thor stands in front of the doorway in his suit. He looks down at his brother. Loki looks frail, tired, weak. His hair is a mess and his clothes couldn’t be more dirty. There are bags underneath his eyes that are bloodshot from crying. His skin is pale, but his blue shows through.
“Brother, you look-”
“Disgusting? Wretched? Thank you.”
“I was going to say handsome, but those words are more accurate. How are you?”
“Take a look at me and ask that again.”
“Right, well, I’m working hard on getting you out of here.”
“Oh, are you? How is that going?” “Well, it’s taking some time. Father says you still have a couple of months in here still.”
“How long have I been here?”
“Three months?”
Loki rolls his eyes, shaking his head and looking away. Three months. Three months since he’s seen you, held you, kissed you.
“How is she?” he asks.
“Y/N?”
“Of course, you idiot.”
“She’s doing well.”
“Is she?” “Do you want the honest truth?”
Loki looks at Thor in the eyes. He can see pain and pity. Something is wrong with you and he doesn’t think Loki can take it. He wants to protect him.
“Yes.”
“She’s not doing well. She stayed in her room for the whole time. She hardly eats, hardly sleeps. No one’s heard from her. Bucky tries to speak to her, but she ignores him a lot, until just recently. He took her to the hospital to get looked over. She’s weak. She’s tired.”
Loki's eyes swell up with tears when hearing about you. You miss him as much as he misses you and are taking it the same way. She’s stroking herself. There’s little anger stirring in him at the sound of Bucy talking to you. He’s sure he’s taking care of her, getting closer. His jealousy gets the better of him as he punches the wall behind him.
“Why him? Why out of anyone who could help her, it has to be him?”
“We all know his alliance to her, brother.”
“Yes, but you could be that one and when he goes, you tell him you have it under control.”
“Are you really yelling at me for not helping her when I’m helping you? I’m trying to get your freedom!”
“That’s not going so well, is it!” Loki yells back.
The tension is thick between the brothers, they’re eyes not unlocking. Loki looks furious at Thor who’s standing with his chest out and teeth gritting.
“If you weren’t so frail right now, I would want to strangle you.”
“Oh, please do. End the misery I’m in. You’d be doing me a favor.”
Thor knows those words are too true. He knows his brother and when he misses something, he misses it. It’s like a drug and he’s going through withdrawal. Attention. Power. The tesseract. Now you. It takes over everything in him and he can’t think of anything else.
“Brother, I promise you I will get you out of here. No matter what it takes. Not just for you, but also Y/N.”
“Even if it involves going against Father and being banished from Asgard until he dies?”
“Yes.”
Loki knows his brother’s alliance and loyalty to their father, and he knows his words are false. There’s no way he’d go against Odin’s power especially with the whole army of Asgard behind the All-Father.
“Is there anything I can get you?”
“Honestly, a bucket of water and soap? I feel disgusting.”
Thor drops his head and chuckles, pointing at Loki. “I’ve always loved your humor.”
Thor leaves the cell and shuts the door. Loki is left once again in his own darkness and mind.
“That wasn’t a joke.” he mutters.
-
Thor wanders the hall of the castle. Asgardian women pass by, giggling and whispering to themselves as they walk by Thor. He watches them as he walks past before redirecting himself back to the plan. He walks straight to the throne room where Odin is sitting and talking to his advisors.
“Ah, hello, son,” Odin welcomes, “What did I do to have your presence?”
“Lock Loki up. When will he be set free?” “Well, I haven’t really thought about that. Maybe in two years time, I haven’t decided.”
“You haven’t decided? Your own son sits and rots in that cell, being punished for something he didn’t do on this planet, and you haven’t decided his sentence length?”
“Do not criticize me, son. I will decide when it’s time. He’s hardly served what is fair, yet, so it is far from my mind. I have a whole kingdom to rule over. You’ll understand one day when you take the throne.”
“Yes, I will understand. And I will understand when someone is locked away for years, rotting away when he doesn’t need to be. He was getting punished by Midgard. Why take him away?”
“Loki thinks they are lowly. He won’t learn a lesson being ‘punished’ by someone lower than him. He need to be taught by someone in authority, someone he respects.”
“You’re a fool if you think he respects you.”
“Do you forget who you are talking to?” Odin yells, standing up.
“No, I know exactly who I am talking to. The King who doesn’t have enough time or care to worry over his son who is dying in a cell.”
“If he is dying, we’d know. He’d be creating chaos for attention.”
“So doesn’t it worry you that he’s not doing anything?”
There’s thick silence in the room, hanging off of Thor’s words. Odin had never considered how odd it is for the god of mischief to be so quiet while angry and contained. It wasn’t easy getting him in there even though Heimdall had brought him with ease. Loki had fought to not been put it in that cage and now that he is, he’s oddly quiet.
“Thor, I know how you care deeply for your brother, but there are things you won’t understand,” Odin says, ignoring the worrying words that linger in the air.
“Father, I am sure you are right, but Loki is not a negotiable term.”
“You are right. He is not, which is why you coming to be about him seems irrelevant. Nothing you say will change my thoughts as of this moment on.”
“Please, I beg of you to reconsider yourself and think about it for-”
“Are you daring to question my decisions? I am not to be-”
“I dare to question it all when it comes to Loki’s freedom.”
There’s a crack of thunder heard from the distance. Odin’s eyes snap up to meet his sons, seeing them glow blue under the light. The rage builds inside of the god as he stands there, chest out and fists clenched.
“I’ve never seen you so worked up over Loki before. There is more to this, isn’t there?” “It’s incredible to see you finally stop thinking about yourself for once.”
“Why is it so important to you?” “Because I am not seeking Loki’s freedom just for myself or him. There is someone on Midgard in need of his presence.”
“Are you telling me there’s a Midgardian actually wanting him back?”
“You may be the All-Father, but you are not the All-Knowing, Father. There is a human who desires Loki in ways no one else would understand.”
“A Midgardian in love with Loki. Quite interesting.”
“It is, indeed, and I promised her I would not stop fighting for Loki’s release. I will do this for her.”
“She made quite the impression, then? And how does Loki feel about this inferior being?”
“Loki would argue with you on the ‘inferior’ part of your description.”
Odin slowly sits back down on his throne, leaning his chin on his hand in contemplation. He scans Thor’s face for any sign of lies, but he sees none. He knows his son. Loki can hide a million lies, but Thor is easily persuaded and weak. There is not much Thor can hide, yet there is nothing to hide. Odin knows what Thor says is true.
“What do I have to gain by releasing him free? He will not learn his lesson. He’ll lack the power and attention and create chaos once again.”
“You have never seen Loki with this moral. She contains him, controls him,” Thor informs, “She’s the calm to his storm.”
His words ring throughout the throne room. Some of the officials have stopped what they are doing to listen to the two royals bicker and Thor’s description of the girl has piqued all of their interest. They murmur to one another, discussing the topic at hand. A girl who really has control over Loki? It seems impossible. They all remember him growing up, running around and causing havoc. The only woman who ever kept him in check was Frigga. Another woman, a mortal even, being able to have the same power is extraordinarily rare.
“Somehow I believe you,” Odin admits.
“Then let him go and come with me. You can meet her for yourself. She’s truly a rare creature if I say so myself.”
“I might consider that, Thor, but if I were to let him go and your words not be true, there’s no telling what he could do. He could stab me in the back and attempt to take over another world.”
“Fine, then come now. See her for yourself.”
-
There’s a large flash of light that comes down on the hangar. Nat watches as Thor and Odin appear, dressing in formal Asgardian clothing. They walk down the bridge towards the doors as Nat whistles for Steve or Tony. Steve and Bucky walk in to see the gods strutting down.
“What’s happening here?” Steve asks.
“I thought you could answer that,” Nat replies.
“Everybody, this is my father, Odin.”
Their eyes go wide at Thor’s smile. Dropping to their knees, they show Odin respect who chuckles with joy.
“I never knew Midgardians were so compliant. No wonder Loki came here.”
“Father, please try not to anger anyone. No promises that I will protect you. I am here to introduce him to Y/N. I suppose she is around?”
“I’ll go get her.”
As soon as the words leave Bucky’s mouth, Steve gets up to protest but the soldier is already down the hallway. He returns a few moments later with you, wrapped in your blankets. Bucky lightly pushes you towards Thor who stretches out his hand. You take his hand and look over to him with curiosity in your eyes.
“Father,” Thor says, backing up to show Odin to your eyesight, “this is Y/n, who Loki fell in love with.”
Odin looks over you, stunned by your appearance. Although you look better than you have in the last few weeks, you’re still a little scrawny. You don’t stand with power or confidence, but instead with your head low and eyes lower. You lack the flame, the boldness, the theatrical attributes Loki has. Nothing about you makes sense to him.
“You’re the one I’ve heard so much about?”
You nod your head which stirs Odin.
“Will you not answer my-”
“Oh, Father, I failed to mention something important. She is mute. She does not speak to anyone, except for Loki.”
Thor gives his father a shit eating grin, proving another point of Loki’s importance. Odin takes a step back in shock.
“Nobody?”
“Nobody, but Loki.”
Odin looks back over to you who nods your head in agreement, “How unremarkable. Loki falling for a mortal and one who doesn’t speak at that.”
“Like I said, a rare creature.”
“So, tell me, or don’t… do you love Loki?’
You nod your head at Odin’s question and it looks as if he doesn’t understand your answer or as if he doesn’t believe you. Although he has one eye, you can see the confusion on his face. He opens his mouth to speak, but it quivers with no sound coming out. His eyes wander down to see a small gold necklace laying on your chest.
“What is that?”
You hold it up for him to see. The metal resembles a snake, one coiled up and hissing.
“Did Loki get you that?”
You nod enthusiastically, fiddling with it between your fingers. Steve walks up behind you and places a hand on your shoulder.
“Loki has given her a few gifts actually. Flowers, jewelry, name it.”
“And you, whoever you are, have you seen the way Loki is with her?”
“We all have,” Steve admits, “he’s gentle, patient. He’s never made her uncomfortable. She’s his first priority when he wakes and his last thought before he lays himself to bed.”
“Son, it seems your words ring true. I may consider freeing Loki, but I need time.”
“Father, in all due respect time-”
“You’ve challenged me enough today. Y/N, it was a pleasure meeting you and I have learned a lot about Loki, even in our short time meeting. Thor, let’s go back to Asgard. There's a son I’d like a word with.”
-
The door to the cell opens and Loki’s head springs up. Expecting to see Thor, he’s shocked when Odin comes through looking solemn.
“Father, I-”
Odin holds up his finger, silencing Loki. He paces back and forth in the room.
“I know a lot of things. Nobody doubts that,” he rambles, “but for my son to fall in love with a silent mortal girl is not one. She’s sweet. I like her.”
Loki cocks his head to the side, mouth slightly open in confusion.
“Yes, I met her. Tiny thing, but cute. I see why you like her. Thor likes her, too. He’s been arguing with me all day about letting you go and on behalf of her. I can’t say I’m not surprised. It took me a moment to truly believe him when he said you fell in love with a Midgardian. Once he took me down there to meet her, everything made sense. So, I have a proposition for you. You never return here and live the rest of your life on Midgard with her or I keep you here.” “What’s the catch?” Loki whines.
“There is none. Take my generosity before I change my mind. Doesn’t happen often.”
Odin walks out of the cell, but leaves the door open. Loki doesn’t stand up right away, not sure if he’s playing a trick on him or not. He looks around every corner and crevice, checking to see if there is anyone hiding to tackle him for stepping out. Loki stretches his body, bones cracking and popping into placement. He can feel the energy returning to his body as he takes a step out of his cage and towards the main halls of the castle.
For the kiss writing prompt 💕 frostiron + 29. "...as a promise"
Read on AO3 (Post Avengers, 2012)
...as a promise.
“During my invasion, why did you offer me a drink? You were trying to stall, I’m aware, but why was that the method you chose?”
Stark startles, dropping the gauntlet he’s working on. “What the hell, warn a guy before you appear like that, would you? I’ve got a heart condition.”
“Apologies,” Loki says honestly. “I would have thought you were expecting me; JARVIS told me you agreed I could come down.”
“Yeah, I said you could, but I wasn’t expecting you to be here thirty seconds later. Doesn't matter, I heard you say ‘drink’, are you here to finally collect on my offer?”
“Sir, Loki asked permission to join you ten minutes ago,” JARVIS inputs.
Stark blinks. “Oh. Guess I lost track of time. So, what was your question?”
Loki clears his throat. “I was wondering why you offered me a drink in your tower when you first came to threaten me.”
Stark gives him a strange look. “Well, I needed the bracelets behind the bar so I’d have a suit in case we fought- or, in your case, if you decided to throw me out a window.”
The words are said lightly but Loki still grimaces. “That doesn’t explain why you offered me the drink,” he points out after a moment.
“Why not? I needed to get my bracelets and was planning to pour myself a drink to keep you distracted, so I offered you one too. I’m not sure what answer you’re looking for here.”
“I was not your guest, you owed me nothing. I was your enemy who had just killed your friend- you should have left your armor on when you came inside, instead of selecting a new armor to don.”
“The other one was damaged,” Stark says. “Needed the upgrade- besides, do I have to remind you that was my tower you were using as home base? JARVIS had my back the entire time.”
“Indeed I did,” JARVIS agrees.
“Is this you trying to tell me I’m reckless?” Stark squints at him. “Trying to tell me not to take on an enemy in battle when I’m out of armor or something? Because I gotta tell you, out of everyone on this team except maybe Bruce, I was expecting you to understand that I am more than just-“
“No, that’s not it,” Loki interrupts quickly. “Well, I would rather you not die since you are the least annoying person on this team I’ve been forced on, but I know that you are more than well-equipped to handle any difficult situation with no more than the clothes you are wearing.”
“Thank you, I don’t know why people always assume I’m helpless outside of my armor. And right answer, by the way, I was gonna stick Dum-E on you with the fire extinguisher if you were trying to pull a Cap on me. So, what’s with the third degree, what’re you trying to figure out?”
“I suppose, I am trying to ask why you were polite to me,” Loki mutters. “You did cleverly insult my manhood not a mere minute later, but you saw me in your building, in your home, and your response was to offer me a drink. You certainly weren’t expecting me to accept and talk with you, so why offer it?”
“Uh, common courtesy? Because I wanted to?” Stark frowns at him. “Either of those, both of them really, have your pick. I really don’t see what the big deal is, you know. It‘s not like I had time to stop and think everything through beforehand, so I just did it. And either way, I was going to get a drink as a stalling tactic so I could get to my armor, so why not offer you one too? You haven’t even taken me up on it in the three months you’ve been here, by the way, what's up with that? I thought you would have, to be honest.”
Loki is quiet for a moment. “May I do so later this evening?”
“Seriously?” At Stark’s incredulous inflection, Loki bristles, about to take it back, insult him, and storm out, but Stark surprises him by agreeing, “About time you took me up on my offer! I’m game, but I need to finish this upgrade first. Is my penthouse at eight-thirty alright, maybe later?”
“It’s not as if I will be busy with nefarious plans at that hour,” Loki huffs. “Yes, that is fine.”
Stark grins. “It’s a date then.”
The first two minutes of their conversation is stilted and awkward, with neither of them apparently knowing what to say. It lasts until Stark glances at him, drains the rest of his glass of scotch and goes, “Oh what the hell, I’m going for it. Please don’t smite me for this, okay, because I know you’ve gotten defensive every time someone has asked, but I really want to know about your Seiðr. How you learned it- I’m assuming you were taught- what the scope of your abilities is, and mainly, how it works. From one genius to another, can you please give me some answers?”
Loki blinks, retort dying on his lips. “You truly wish to know?”
“Uh, why would I not? It's probably the most powerful and complex thing I’ve ever come across- which hurts to admit- and I know nothing about it, which sucks, by the way. I hate not knowing things, especially things that interest me.”
“And my Seiðr interests you?”
“Yeah, thought I’d made that pretty obvious by now. I mean, Cap told me off for practically drooling during that battle last week when you eviscerated those doombots. I would have paid good money to see Doom’s face when he saw you literally rip his bots apart with just a wave of your hand.”
“That is but a simple trick,” Loki murmurs. “You are truly fascinated by my Seiðr, aren’t you?”
Stark’s gaze is expressive and searching for a moment before he nods. “It’s probably the coolest thing I’ve ever seen, and I don’t say that lightly.”
Loki exhales slowly. He thinks Stark might just be genuine. “What do you want to know first?”
It takes only an hour of discussion for them to rearrange the furniture of the penthouse against the wall to give them an open floor space so Loki can show off his Seiðr. Stark keeps up with his conversations remarkably well for a mortal, far surpassing Loki’s expectations, and he finds himself relaxing, indulging in discussion of the more technical aspects of his Seiðr.
When they finally call it a night, hours into the morning, Loki is surprised when he finds himself wishing to stay longer and discuss his Seiðr further with Stark. So few have ever been kind in consideration of his Seiðr, even less have expressed an interest in it, and for Stark to have done both...
Loki doesn’t have words to describe it.
(Later, Loki will consider that evening as the dawn of their friendship.)
It is invigorating to engage in a battle of wits and intellect with Stark, Loki soon comes to find. Such was what had initially impressed him about Stark when he had been under the control of The Other, but with his presence in his mind gone, Loki finds himself naturally drawn to the inventor now. Their conversations are thrilling, and Loki finds himself leaping at the chance to flex his intellect with Stark.
They spend the following months spending an increasing amount of time together, even more so following the cease of Stark’s relationship with Pepper Potts. (Stark isolates for two weeks after that, before he emerges with an impressive performance of being fine.) They discuss in length his Seiðr, Stark’s technology, and other pieces of their lives that they both find interesting.
Stark’s technology, in particular, holds Loki’s attention, for while the designs that Stark has managed to come up with are far superior to anything else on Midgard, a select few are also unlike anything he has come across in his travels of the Realms. It’s an impressive feat, and Loki tells him so.
Loki is also especially fond of Stark’s creations, finding himself impressed by how his bots seem to have such curiosity and personality. (Dum-E and U both, he quickly realizes, are fiercely loyal of Stark.)
As their conversations of his Seiðr continue, it grows impossible to go without mentioning Frigga. Loki isn’t sure what he expects Stark’s reaction to be when he first mentions her, but Stark’s gentle smile and, “She sounds incredible, she must be proud of how talented you are,” far surpasses anything he had expected. The sentiment touches him, and something in their dynamic changes that night.
(Perhaps, it is because that is the night Stark changes to Tony.)
Despite this, they still do not engage in conversation easily about personal topics, both of them with too many difficult stories to wish to recall such information. Still, however, there are many nights where their respective nightmares leave them stripped of their shields, with only vulnerability left behind. It is on those nights that their bond is solidified; empathy and understanding found through sharing stories of past tortures and betrayals.
During one of those nights, Tony tells him of a man called Stane, sharing with him how Dum-E first, and then Pepper, had saved his life. His voice is broken, no more than a whisper, and his hand remains firmly on the device in his chest the entire time he speaks; a further testament to the pain of that betrayal.
Loki vows to him in that moment that he will never betray Tony, he swears it, for he would rather stab his own heart than cause his (only) friend pain in any way.
Tony just looks over at him, his expression sad and resigned all of a sudden. “I don’t think that’s a promise you want to make,” he says quietly. “Not when I’ll likely give you a reason to break it.”
“You know me; I say no less than what I mean,” Loki tells him. “And I can think of no reason that would ever make me want to hurt you or betray you.” He has betrayed others throughout his life, for reasons so little as for fun (stabbing Thor), but he knows he could never harm Tony.
Tony just shrugs. He doesn’t seem to believe him, but he provides no further argument. The blanket covering their laps as they sit together on the sofa suddenly feels stifling, but Loki resolutely ignores it. He understands that Tony’s skepticism is not personal, it is just a mere consequence of being betrayed time and time again by the people he cared about most. Loki knows he would hesitate to accept such a promise as well, even from Tony. Life has taught them both that it’s not safe to trust.
(Perhaps together, they can learn to trust again.)
The other members of the team remain wary of him, distrustful to the point that Loki is certain he will never be able to earn an ounce of trust with them. Outside of Tony, Thor seems to be the most accepting of the fact he is serving a ten year sentence for his attack on New York as a member of their team. Knowing he has Tony‘s friendship makes it easy, however, to disregard the fact that the others do not trust him, even on the field of battle. Never mind that his Seiðr has been limited to keep him in check, they clearly do not trust him to fight on their side. Loki pays this no mind; their belief in him or lack thereof is of no importance to him.
When he finally meets Pepper Potts, Col. James Rhodes, and a man named Happy Hogan, they all threaten him past the point of any return should he hurt Tony in any way. He believes them. The CEO of Tony’s company, his ex, however is the one whose threat genuinely gives him pause. He knows better than to anger her.
But for all their initial threats, the three of them all seem to accept him as Tony’s friend, therefore, as a part of their lives as well. It is awkward at times to be around Potts or Hogan, or even Rhodes when he is able to return home, but those moments of awkwardness, he finds, are worthwhile if it means he can remain at Tony’s side.
It’s a thought that should scare him, that he wants to be wherever Tony is, but he finds himself oddly at peace with that fact. They have grown close over the last five, almost six months since they first shared a drink in Tony’s penthouse, and Tony is incredible, a force of light wherever he goes; it is impossible not to be drawn to Tony, he thinks.
It’s a brisk day in mid-March when he and Tony crowd together on the sofa in his penthouse with a video feed in front of them to watch the fallout of their latest prank on Barton. Tony bursts out laughing at Barton’s indignation and leans against Loki as he praises their prank, saying they absolutely have to prank Cap next. Loki is overcome with joy realizing just how lucky and happy he is to have a friend who partakes and enjoys mischief just as much as he does.
That is also the moment Loki realizes he’s falling in love.
Tony has gone quiet as his side, eyes still sparkling with joy even as he asks, “You okay, Lokes?"
“I’m fine,” Loki reassures. “Just thinking of what to include in our next prank against Captain America himself.”
“I love the way you think,” Tony laughs, snuggling into his side the way he seems to do so frequently, now that Loki thinks about it. “Well, hit me with it. What’re you thinking?”
It’s easy enough to conjure a list of possible pranks at a moment’s notice, and from that moment onward, Loki’s feelings fall to the back of his mind, always quietly lingering in his every thought. Given enough time, he knows they will become a force he cannot hope to control, but that is a problem he can deal with in the future; the present includes planning a prank, and that comes first.
(Later, Loki will consider the moment he realized he was developing feelings for Tony as the day everything changed.)
“Can I join you?”
Loki startles minutely, so caught up in his reading, so relaxed, that he had not been paying attention to his surroundings in any capacity. But this is Tony who has come to his bedroom, and Loki knows he need not keep his guard up when the inventor is around. "Are you alright?" Loki asks, lowering his book to his lap.
"Fine," Tony says automatically. He looks uncertain. "I know you're reading and it's late, so if you want me to leave, don’t hesitate to say so.”
“Nonsense, I always enjoy your company,” Loki reassures absently, frowning at Tony’s haggard experience. He gestures to the space next to him on the bed, adding unnecessarily, “Please, sit.”
Tony hesitates for a moment and then sits down on the bed next to him, leaning back. His hands twist unnaturally together; a sign of his anxiety.
Loki marks his page and sets his book on the nightstand. “Do you wish to talk about what has you so tense?”
“Not really,” Tony mutters. “Not like there’s much to say anyway though. I fell asleep working on an upgraded set of arrows for Clint and woke up screaming. J said you were awake still, so I came up.” He pauses and then adds, "You've been reading all this time? Usually you call it a night at midnight."
"I got enthralled in an old journal on Seiðr and lost track of time. When I realized it was past two, I figured I would wait until I came to a natural stopping point before I retired for the night,” Loki admits ruefully. "I'll be tired in the morning, but it will be well worth it."
"I think I'm rubbing off on you," Tony says lightly. "Staying up until all hours of the night to finish something is my shtick, not yours."
"You have a point. You did, after all, initially encourage my pranks, then you took to assisting me with them, and now you have me staying up to all hours of the night," Loki points out, teasing, participating in the lighthearted atmosphere Tony seems to be trying to create. A distraction for his nightmare, perhaps, and Loki is happy to help. "You are a rather bad influence on me."
"Guilty as charged," Tony agrees, snorting. "Though I'm pretty sure everything prank-related is a result of you being a bad influence on me."
"A mere pleasant consequence of our friendship. You knew what you were getting yourself into when you first let me share a drink with you in your penthouse."
"I did knowingly sign up for all the mischief and chaos, you're right." Tony shrugs, looking pleased. "But as Rhodey will be more than happy to tell you, I caused plenty of trouble throughout my life, so you sadly don't get the privilege of claiming responsibility for all of my evil ways."
"I plan to ask about those stories, just so you know."
Tony laughs, looking lighter now than he had when he had first appeared in Loki's doorway. "Pretty sure you'll have to clear your schedule for the weekend when you do- but keep in mind, Rhodey did also participate in a lot of my plans. He was my partner in crime. So don't let his exasperated tone fool you, he's just as much a prankster as we are."
"In that case, we will have to include him in our plans to prank Thor whenever both your colonel and Thor are present in the Tower," Loki muses.
"Deal," Tony responds instantly. He goes quiet just a moment later, his expression darkening a little.
Loki frowns at the sudden shift in mood. "What's wrong?"
"I should probably go, let you finish the chapter you were reading so you can go to bed."
“I am more than happy to have you here," Loki says carefully, sensing that there is something else weighing on his mind. "But if you wish to go, that is your choice to make.”
“I don’t want to keep you up.”
“Then prepare for bed and lay with me,” Loki says without thinking. He pauses, realizing what he just said. Norns, he had not meant to offer that, but the offer has been extended and he is not one to take back his words. Still though, he clarifies quickly, “It’s an innocent offer, no more than the simple opportunity for you to not be alone tonight, if you don't want to be.”
Tony looks startled. “You want me to stay?”
“You are welcome to, if you want.”
“Why?”
“You are my friend,” Loki says simply. “We have fallen asleep watching movies together on the sofa before and that is fine, is it not?” At Tony’s nod he continues, “So too would your decision to stay here for the night. Nightmares are painful, and if I can offer some small comfort or reassurance of safety, I would happily do so.”
“You’re sure?”
“I mean every word I’ve shared,” Loki says gently.
Tony sighs and leans against him, his head on Loki’s shoulder. “Thanks,” he says softly. “For letting me stay and for not judging me.”
“You know how common my own night terrors are,” Loki points out. "I have nothing to judge."
Tony shrugs but doesn’t offer a response.
“Go, get ready for bed,” Loki says, nudging him with his elbow. “I have placed an additional toothbrush and nightwear for you in the bathroom.”
Tony nods silently and gets up, disappearing into the bathroom. Loki uses the privacy to lay down, trying to quell his racing thoughts and pounding heart. There is something charged and vulnerable between them; it feels like he is balancing precariously on a fraying line. What may happen if it snaps, he’s unsure.
When Tony exits the bathroom a few minutes later, he pauses at the side of the bed for a moment before he pulls back the covers. He doesn’t lay down, however, just says quietly, “You don’t seem as bothered anymore to be serving part of your sentence on the Avengers.”
“Is that a question?” Loki asks, never one to make things easy when he can help it.
“An observation, I think. Am I wrong?”
“No, you are not wrong,” Loki says. He takes a shuddering breath and admits, “I hated this team in the beginning. I was no more than a collection of broken pieces being held together by pure spite, and being placed on this team felt like a death sentence. I expected to hate every moment of my time here, for an abundance of reasons.” He swallows hard, suddenly certain he should not keep going, not when he has already stripped himself bare.
“But?”
As always with Tony, he is the exception to the expectations and restrictions Loki sets for himself. He finds himself staring up at the ceiling and admitting, “But I made a friend, someone who cares about me genuinely for all that I am. It took the work of months before I realized that all the reasons I expected to hate being on this team were insignificant in comparison to the friendship I had found. These last several months, I have found myself slowly recovering from the damage The Other inflicted on me- I am trying to at least- I am trying not to be the monster I was destined to be, and I somehow even find myself happy on occasion, something I thought I was only capable of when creating chaos.”
His bedroom is quiet for a moment. “Sounds like your friend is pretty special,” Tony quips.
“Special is not the most accurate term; short, on the other hand, or perhaps, talkative, or even-”
“You're an ass,” Tony interrupts him, laughing. His expression is pensive, however, as he lays down on his side and looks over at him. “Is that all we are though, just friends?”
Loki freezes. It takes a moment for him to remember to breathe, and then he exhales slowly, rolling over on his side to face Tony as well. “I’m not sure,” he admits, “Are we just friends, in your mind?”
“I asked you first,” Tony points out, smirking a little.
“I gave you a response, however vague, and then asked your thoughts. It’s your turn.”
“Uh huh, you want my thoughts on what exactly? You haven’t really specified what we’re discussing.”
Loki refrains from rolling his eyes despite the way his heart is threatening to pound out of his chest. “What are your thoughts on us,” he emphasizes. “That is what I wish to know.”
Tony’s eyes search him for a moment, perhaps trying to assess if this is part of a joke or if he is being genuine. “I think that you’re a royal pain in the ass a lot of the time, as well as dramatic and passionate, but I like that about you. You’re also mischievous and clever; you're a genius that speaks the same language as me. I also think you have feelings for me, just like I do for you. And I want to see if there can be an us...but maybe after I kiss you?”
“Is that a promise?”
“The romantic speech or the kissing part?”
“The part where you mentioned wanting to see if there can be an us, do you mean that?”
“Of course I mean it." Tony pouts at him.
It suddenly is so easy now to see what has been in front of him for months: their close proximity to each other, the way they are drawn to each other's side, their flirting; it has all been leading to this.
Loki leans over and kisses him. Tony gives a quiet sound of surprise and then relaxes, easing into the kiss with an approach that somehow already feels familiar.
“We need to do this more often,” Tony murmurs when they pull back. He's grinning.
Loki laughs, happy. “That is a promise I can easily keep,” he vows, and kisses him again to prove his point.
End.
Outline # -1 Abandoned Lore (Trinity)
@fanfics-and-fangirling
I have learned my lesson, I will be writing these on Google docs and then copy-pasting onto Tumblr. While I am on GD, I figured I might as well open the docs I used to write the actual fic. Man, I went through a ton of hoops to get where I am. I will be using the most coherent ones for reference.
I can literally track my thought process as I went through writing all the different versions and I still have no idea how tf I went from this to dropping a flaming papermache whale on Ra’s Al Ghul. And I will die mad about it. Which means more meticulous notes in the future I guess.
Also, I’d like to apologize for how long it took to get this out, I have no sense of time whatsoever and as always, there’s a lot more than expected. This was 7 pages long
Original Ramble Post
Like most of my stories, the MC is an OCI - reincarnator brought into a fictional world they once watched. (Because I am obsessed with that trope.)
I now find the original name I had for her cringy and out-of-place given these are norse gods. So, from now on her name is Lokka, which is the female version of Loki
There’s a whole ass backstory about the transition of godly names and power I won’t go into. Just think Thor and female Thor kind of thing I guess. She’s basically seen as a spare Loki but it’s also a respected position.
Was tempted to name her Sigyn since Marvel doesn’t care about actual norse myth relations. No, Idc that there’s a canon Sigyn.
If you’re curious, the original name was Aradia. Yes, like the queen of witches.
MC is an asgardian, the daughter of the librarian in the royal palace and a blacksmith
She managed to get an apprenticeship under Loki and is occasionally taught by Frigga. She also learns under Eir when both her royal teachers are busy.
Lokka found her way into the central plane, probably having found it’s location from Loki’s notes and is unaware that it’s unstable.
So, Lokka is in the central plane, having the time of her life exploring new lands when she stumbles across a crying Marinette who is very lost
Unlike Lokka, Marinette does not know where she is or what is going on. She literally just tripped into a portal and has no way home.
Lokka takes Marinette under her wing and promises to help her find a way home
Problem is, she doesn’t know which of the three universes Marinette is from.
Even if/when she finds out that the girl is from MLB-verse, she still wouldn’t know which one that is because she has no reference to which world is which. Only that Marinette is probably not from Asgard.
At this point, she is unaware she lived in Marvel, she just knows Asgard is Norse Mythology.
So they continue to wander the central plane, Marinette ends up picking up a card guardian for a pet, accidentally becoming a cardcaptor.
Marinette has trouble pronouncing Lokka and Lokka gives Mari permission to call her Cosette (pre-reincarnation name)
Meanwhile, Ra’s sends Damian and Talia into the Central plane for combat experience and resource gathering.
Ra’s might be 700 years old, he might have access to the Central plane but he sure doesn’t know about magic or how it came to be or the current state of it. He might know something’s off because all the inhabitants have been increasingly on edge and the weather’s been stranger than usual but he didn’t deemed it important
Notably, he has never seen anyone other than those who he’d sent in himself in the central planes (CP, from now on bc I am getting tired of typing the entire thing out) so as far as he knows, the CP’s only entrance point is under his control.
Talia and Damian, who’s still going by Hafid, go hunting for resources and training
They separate for a bit for individual hunting/training time
Marinette and Cosette (Lokka) stumble across Damian’s camp
Misunderstandings occur, Damian fights them, more accurately he fights Cosette
Cosette tries to protect Marinette while also making sure not to harm her opponent
It was harder than she expected considering her opponent was a child
Asgardian training pulls through and she is able to do both
Damian’s tied up, Marinette is confused, and Cosette does not want to deal with this
Negotiation time
Marinette can’t speak Arabic, Damian doesn’t know french, and Cosette has all-speak
This means Cosette’s sitting there, having to repeat everything the kids say to each other for translation’s sake
also misunderstandings before the kids realize allspeak is a thing
Cosette is stuck with two kids who don’t like each other, one of which barely puts up with her so she does what most adults do when kids are too troublesome
Distract them: she does magic tricks with actual magic
Damian+Marinette are fascinated, Cosette accidentally gains two magic students
even though she’s still learning herself and all she has for guidance right now are Loki’s and Frigga’s notes
So, the trio end up travelling together
Damian demands Marinette should at least be able to fight so they train her too
They also figure out that Marinette and Damian’s worlds are not the same.
Cosette drills some value of life, basic morals, and feminism into Damian’s head
Marinette and Damian (Hafid) have trouble pronouncing each other’s names
They chose nicknames for each other from Cosette’s bedtime stories
Marinette is obviously angel or Tenko
Damian is gets Kabane, the name of a half demon
Kabane later changes to Kasane, protective blade
Yes, Cosette was/is a weeb and yes, they still mispronounce names which defeats the whole purpose but at least they kids don’t notice now even if Cosette is cringing every time they
They run into another card guardian and this one goes to Damian.
Cosette does not pout about this, it would be very immature
One training montages, several fights, a couple language lessons, and an abandoned (and Cosette-raided) house later, Cosette gets to the part of Loki’s notes where she figures out that the CP is collapsing in on itself and uh-oh
She tells the kids the gist of it but they’re too smart, ask all the right questions, and end up figuring out the important parts of situation that she’s trying to keep from them
Cosette is both impressed and a little put out, mostly impressed because not only did they figure out extremely complex magic, they also mostly remained level headed.
Marinette wants to rescue the card guardians and for once Damian is backing her up so Coestte gives up the notion of returning home and they go collect the guardians.
Remember, DC and MLB universes are closing in on each other
MCU is drifting away
If they don’t collect the guardians, Cosette would have the time to just drop them off at their world collection points and head back to hers
After collecting a couple guardians, they end up finding Talia and explain the situation to her.
Talia joins the gang, she may or may not be plotting a marriage
They raid a couple more houses, collect the 54 card guardians, and complete the power transfer ritual (replacing the Yue’s trial because the cards are the guardians)
The cards end up latching onto the three kids.
Marinette gets the Mistress title, Damian gets Sun Guardian, and Cosette gets Moon guardian.
Originally Cosette was going to be the mistress and Marinette the Moon guardian but because of the way I’ve decided magic works in this world - explaining that will need a whole other post - if Marinette is the moon guardian and gets the Ladybug miraculous, she will - for lack of better word - get sick and possibly die... or not.
Y’know what, it made sense at the time. But now that I think about it, we’re going back to the original idea.
Cosette’s the Card Mistress, Marinette’s the Moon guardian and Damian’s the Sun guardian.
Spoiler alert: that is a plot point for tropes-verse.
The completion of the ritual breaks puts CP deteriorations in high acceleration
Damian and Talia get into their circle, Cosette and Marinette in the other
Damian doesn’t have any cards bc he doesn’t want his grandfather trying to get to them. He and Talia agreed Ra’s would only know about the CP’s destruction. He does, however, have a CP beast that they picked up.
CP beast: magical creature that was born of CP’s magical residue or smth
Damian’s looks like a Teddiursa (Teddy bear pokemon) it is not
They have a notebook from a raided house detailing CP’s deterioration for proof
Cosette goes with Marinette because she can’t make it back to her universe and in the event that Marinette’s also from Cosette’s universe, she won’t be alone
They separate with the promise of meeting again.
At this point, I have had several differing ideas
They all go into DC world because they aren’t sure of Marinette’s world
Child trio goes into MLB world and Talia tells Ra’s Damian died
Everyone goes into MLB and Ra’s finds out about the collapse when he tries going in himself and finds out he can’t and just assumes they died
Y’all, I’m starting to see why I can’t do one-shots…
One of the things I forgot to mention in the rambling post is that while Marvel-verse was pulling away, it also messed with the time regulation thing, a day in the Maribat-verse will
Time in CP was very messed up
Kind of assumed readers could piece it together but I figured might as well make it obvious and straight up say it
MLBU: Cosette and Marinette arrive safely
Marinette is delivered home and Cosette has to figure something out
They find out Marinette has only been gone for a week
Marinette has some separation anxiety for about three days
Cosette slowly realizing this is an MLB universe and having a crisis
Cosette gets adopted by the Dupain-Chengs and starts working at the bakery
I have not figured out ages for Cosette
MLB goes like most Maribat fics pre-gotham because I’m lazy
Will likely be adjusted if I ever actually write this fic
Except Cosette steps in when things got too far and Paris has 3 heroes
Cosette is the known as the Sorciere or Lokka
Her uniform is just her asgardian armor
Good but misguided Adrien, Cosette probably adopts him too
Love square goes platonic and Cosette is glad this rom-com is over
Magic tutoring continues
Cosette is neutral with Fu and fascinated by the miraculous
You remember those ghost interactions? Those are filtering in
One of the first things to merge is the internet, because it doesn’t have a physical body and it’s just waves of information
News and discoveries between the world are being swapped
Given what I remember from DC and dimension travel, it wouldn’t be surprising if they figured out universes were merging.
The news about JL and Paris’s situation are causing all kinds of confusion
Cosette beings looking for information on Damian
As the physical world begins merging, there’s pockets of space where you can slip from one world into another; not quite portals but close
Eventually the trip to NY became a trip to Gotham because their plane slipped between planes (sorry, I saw the chance and I had to take it.) but yeah, that happened.
There’s quite a few details I’m forgetting
DCU: Damian and Talia arrive ok and report bare basics to Ra’s
It has also only been a week
Ra’s is displeased to find them back until they report the state of the CP
There’s the whole coup not long after and Damian is sent to Bruce
Damian is much more innocent looking when he’s bringing what appears to be a teddy bear with him
It’s name is Abd and it has grown wings by now. Actual name pending.
He gets teased about it, but under Cosette’s teachings, he has learned the virtue of patience, underestimation, and getting revenge with a side of entertainment
He does not try to kill Tim either
He also has to make the choice of bringing Abd with him as Damian or as Robin
He choses to make a side company for WE making toys based off creatures from the CP so Abd wouldn’t look too out of place
It takes two weeks for the bats to realize there’s something off about the Abd
They are convinced it’s haunted and Damian is very entertained
Abd only moves in daytime when no one - Damian excluded - can see it
Movement can expel magic that interferes with recording tech
Alfred is the first to figure it out and surprise, surprise, he has some magic books for Damian to learn from
It’s from the Wayne family library and they just assumed the language was lost to time. At least three are from Alfred’s own family.
Bat brothers spend the next 6 months trying to convince Damian his magical pet bear is a haunted doll.
Damian sort of getting along with Poison Ivy because his Sun magic is very compatible with plants and they love him
On an unrelated note, the plants seem to refuse to attack the new Robin
Damian randomly, unconsciously humming to songs Cosette and Marinette sang
Damian just vibing with the magic users of JL and Teen Titans
No one took him seriously at first but he pointed something out during a conference
“Robin, stand down and let the magic users handle this” - Green Lantern, probably
Constantine who actually knows what he’s talking about “No, no, let the boy talk.”
The plan was twice as efficient after Damian was through with it
Now Constantine’s trying to adopt Damian as an apprentice, he’s failing bc the bats are protective and possessive of what is theirs
Reminder that Damian brings Abd with him everywhere and he’s still getting teased about it from anyone who is not a bat (still convinced the thing is haunted)
The only thing the magic users have picked up about Abd is that he’s a magical construct which could mean a number of things but they brush it off as just a doll.
No one is prepared for the thing to come to life, multiply in size, and start spitting ice, sleep sand, and illusions. (Hiccups bubbles and can also turn into a cloud.)
They are also not prepared for the thing to quadruple in size and for Damian to ride it like a horse into battle. Reminder that Abd has wings and can fly.
Confusing talk about what’s going on in Paris and some other parts of the world
JL slowly figure out the universal merger that Damian already knows about
Damian is not impressed, it took him and Angel about 2 hours as 9 year olds
Somehow, Damian still has the ice prince image, less demon spawn though, that goes to Abd
Time moves on and one day, a plane from the other world arrives in Gotham
There’s a bit of confusion but it’s not exactly the first time something like this has happened at this point
WE steps up and offers jobs and a tour and all the usual Maribat plans (not just for the kids but all the other people on the plane)
Given the merger of the internet, MLB class and crew have some idea who the Waynes are and they accept.
Estimated about 6 months for full merger so people from MLB world are kinda just stuck there until then
Lila literally cannot lie about knowing the Waynes personally but she sure can lie about other things.
Dick and Damian are sent in to monitor the group
The reunion is awkward given they can’t freely interact and are not supposed to know each other.
While Dick is talking, there are just wide eyed staring between Marinette, Damian, and Cosette. With something a little extra between Marinette and Damian.
Cosette is torn between laughing and groaning at another rom-com trope coming in fast.
She ends up filming it bc blackmail is always good to have
Adrien is confused and quite frankly, he’s really just there to cover for them
The tour begins and about five minutes in, the trio breaks off and exchanges stories and names.
Cosette hears about Batman and has a dawning realization of what this world is, mentally nopes out, later digests that they are going into Maribat verse
Starts checking off Maribat tropes they’re coming across bc she might as well have fun with it
They continue to meet up
Batfam thinking Damian somehow managed to get two girlfriends
Damian choking on his breakfast when it is brought up
The girls are invited to dinner and Damian is just dying inside
Cosette blatantly hitting on all Damian’s brothers in the first 5 minutes
Damian screaming internally while Cosette cackles
Dick is awkward until he realizes it’s a joke, Jason plays along, Tim has an awkward bean crisis
Tim x Cosette? Maybe.
Cosette does that sit and repeat thing at least three times out of habit
Batfam gets full explanation about how they met and everything
I have played with the idea of Cosette getting fear gassed a couple times and Idk how it would go tbh.
That’s as far as I got with this version, so shenanigans ensue
Pretty sure they used the cards and magic throughout even if I didn’t mention it
Absolutely would be useful for being in two places at once
I later changed so the merger happens and then Paris’s heroes meet the Justice League
Damian immediately recognizing Cosette but not Marinette bc magic
still effective but weaker because of Damian’s magic type
He later recognizes Marinette later when she pulls off a move he taught her way back in CP
Nickname confusion for everyone else
Cosette vs Constantine on who gets to teach Damian magic
Damian goes to Paris. They beat Hawkmoth and then go to Gotham.
Also had a general idea of a plot with LoS that never got fleshed out past existing
If we’re going for the rebound version: Cosette reunites with Thor and Loki during the Avengers movie
Also, poor Heimdallr. He probably had a lot of headaches with the universe crash
Accelerated merger because of the convergence in the dark world.
I wanna go with 2012 Avengers towers shenanigans. + Loki and his sort-of but not really daughter
Cosette vs Antman, shrinking/growing, science vs magic.
And then there’s the whole Ironman vs Batman vs Arrow rich boy fight
Hammer x Luthor or Hammer vs Luthor?
Also, Cosette just staring at her home universe in betrayal and being insulted she didn’t think of it earlier because classic Nordic myths had Loki as Odin’s brother and not his son among other things but still
Fight against Thanos is a bit anti-climatic when you give a gremlin murder child magic and a sword that can through anything, including magical artifacts.
this baby boy can and will fight God and Cosette’s not really the kind to hold him back
If I actually wrote this, a lot of things would probably change because I’d actually have to put more thought into logistics and how things work
