The time you make for yourself is NOT a sacrifice
Oftentimes in life, we are forced to make sacrifices. Giving up one thing that we desire to get something else that is more important. This can hurt. However, the time you make for yourself is NEVER a sacrifice.
By making time for yourself, you are not giving up anything that is more important.

During the pandemic, managers championed an employee-centric style of leadership that prioritised personal wellbeing and mental health, explains Anna Tavis, a professor of human capital management at New York University. “We were encouraged to bring our whole selves to work,” she says. As a result, many workers are feeling a sense of cognitive dissonance – both those laid off, and others who live in fear of being axed next. Tavis explains that during Covid-19, they were told one thing – but now they’re experiencing something that discredits that narrative. “It’s making leadership seem inauthentic, and that’s understandably having an impact on employee trust in leadership,” she says. Some experts warn that if waves of layoffs like the ones we’ve recently seen – or even just the looming possibility of such cuts – continue to be part of working life, organisational cultures could also deteriorate, having a grim ripple effect on everything from employee engagement and productivity, to physical and mental health. And what’s worse, these conditions could touch generations to come.

Things to do for a Better You!!
Taking care of yourself is important for your physical and mental well-being. Here are some nice things you can do for yourself to help you feel good every day:
Tumblr media
Get Fresh Air:
Going outside and getting fresh air is very much important because the feeling cannot be explained in words. Going out alone and getting fresh air — your body and mind will thank you. Even just five minutes outside can help you feel refreshed and rejuvenated
2. Keep your phone at home:
To avoid unwanted disturbances while enjoying your relaxing time keep your phone at home while going out. If you feel very lonely then take a book along with you and read it. Reading can help you escape from the stresses of everyday life and also relax yourself.
3. Live in the present moment:
Most of us will be living on our head like i’m gonna be the CEO, i’ll buy an expensive car, jewels, etc., and dreaming about it. Live in the present moment and try to enjoy the little things around you. Reality always help to solve problems and find solutions. Sometimes things will be different and easier in dream but in reality it will be difficult to even start..
4. Keep your room Aromatic:
Sometimes clean and aromatic space will be mind relaxing and helps to calm yourself while you are sleeping, reading or enjoying your alone time. Essential oils can help you relax and feel more calm. Try diffusing lavender or peppermint oil in your room.
5. Go to sleep early:
Going to bed earlier helps to calm your mood. A proper sleep helps you to get more focused and your brain decides what to store and what to remove from it which helps you to be an organized person. If you don’t feel sleepy just lie on your bed and read a book. Your eyes will feel sleepy, yes this is my trick to get sleep if i don’t want to sleep earlier. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep each night to help you feel rested and energized.
Taking care of yourself is important for your overall well-being and to be a better version of yourself. Try incorporating some of these nice things into your daily routine to help you feel good every day.

You are not a bother. You are not a burden. You are not a waste of space. You are not annoying every person you talk to. Your existence matters. Your presence makes a good difference.

Something interesting about Neil and Andrew's deal is, when it came down to it, Neil never really needed or wanted Andrew to protect him. For example, during christmas break, it would've been in alignment with their deal for Neil to stay safe, take care of Kevin, and let Andrew take the abuse on his own. But Neil doesn't even consider it once he realizes Andrew is in danger. At the banquets and the talk show when Riko was there threatening him Neil never hid behind Andrew. He antagonized that bitch himself. And the biggest one, when Neil starts getting the countdown texts, he knows it's a threat, but does he tell Andrew? No. In fact, he makes sure that Andrew promises to stop protecting him because he doesn't want his death to hurt Andrew. All Neil really seemed to want was someone to lean on when he wanted to run.
Maybe at first Neil wanted protection, but very quickly Neil's priorities shifted. He didn't care about the deal; he wanted to protect Andrew, above all else.

hey I have some lived experience personal care advice I had to learn the hard way in my adulthood after growing up with abusive neglectful narcissistic parents. Maybe it will help someone else.
The most important room in your house to be clean is your kitchen. If you only have a few spoons and a whole house of mess, spend them on getting your kitchen clean, hygienic and tidy enough to be usable.
spending money on things that last longer or work better isn't a waste of money. You don't have to use the cheapest of everything because spending is bad work out what YOU think is worth splurging on.
Always buy the best shoes you can afford. Taking care of your feet is so important for your health. If you're afab the same goes for underwear, buying one pack of good quality, good fitting cotton breathable underwear will save you so much money on feminine care supplies if you get what I'm saying.
Get your feet measured in a shoe store. Especially if you're over 25 your feet will have grown since you were 18. I spent years thinking my body was wrong because my feet ALWAYS hurt. My girlfriend suggested we measure them and I realised I was in shoes two sizes too small. For years!! I didn't even know shoes were supposed to have space in them.
a cheap bottle of washing up liquid (dish soap) costs like £1 and can be used on basically every surface. Clean your counters, toilet, sinks, bathtub or shower, oven and hob with a scrub daddy and some cheap washing up liquid. It doesn't react with other chemicals and it cleans deeply and easily. I even use it on the inside of the shower glass where it collects that crusty water residue.
When bathing with an unscented bar soap everywhere first. Then wash a second time with your scented soap. The scented liquid soap isn't designed to clean you it's designed to make you smell beautiful.
Don't use scented soaps on your kitty. Don't use femfresh or other feminine washes on your kitty. Don't use feminine wipes on your kitty. You use your unscented bar soap you use on the rest of your bodh on your kitty once a day. That's all it needs.
You don't need sewing skills to mend things. A £5 sewing kit you keep somewhere in your house and maybe a 2 minute YouTube tutorial is all you need to fix holes in your clothes and make them last longer.
Cereal for breakfast is quick and convenient but aim to eat protein for your first meal. Things like eggs, meat, a protein shake, Greek yogurt. You'll feel fuller for longer and your body will appreciate it.
most things don't need to be ironed. For the things that need creases out a steamer is better for the fibres and easier to use. Simply hang up the item and hold the steamer against the creases.

See I don't necessarily disagree with what seems to be the primary reading that Yue Qingyuan's shifu fucked him over, caring nothing for his needs or preferences and only for whether he was useful. That makes sense, it ties into plenty of the generational and societal themes of the story. It fits.
But iirc we don't actually get enough information to know that's what happened.
And the thing is it would be so in-character and also thematically appropriate if Yue Qingyuan absolutely did not explain his goals or why he was working so hard, because it was private and shameful and he didn't expect any sympathy, and there was a high risk of losing everything if he blabbed.
And also if he engaged with the existing ruleset with which he was presented, i.e. 'can't go off on your own on personal business until you've mastered your sword,' in the most negative and controlling manner possible, as absolute commandments.
He's a different kind of guy but he comes from the same background as Shen Jiu! It fucked him up also!
He is very very very not a guy who trusts the system to make allowances for him--even once he has all the power he 'does what he wants' and 'makes selfish choices' as a conscious transgression; not something he has a right to do, just something he can get away with so he's gonna. (And ofc he spends almost all the latitude he grants himself on sqq.)
And even less is he a guy who opens up easily.
He isn't too proud to ask for help or pity, so much as he just doesn't expect to get any.
So in this interpretation, he understood that rule as a non-negotiable barrier in his path, the target to overcome, and focused all his considerable will and talent on overcoming it through the sphere of action he felt he had control over.
And fucked himself up bad.
Whereupon his teacher, possessing absolutely no context for this dumb shit their star pupil pulled, did the only thing they thought might work to save his life, paying in the process no attention to the raving of someone deep in a psychotic break.
Like, I feel like there should have been a better, kinder medical option, but I don't know for sure that there was, so I can't say with certainty this was the kind of cruelty that derives from not caring enough.
And it really would be kind of elegant and so typical of Yue Qingyuan's fundamental tragedy if the real mistake was 'not confiding in anybody' the whole time.
And he was just so deeply sunk into the understanding that explaining and asking were useless that, even looking back, it never really occurred to him that maybe his mistake wasn't 'fucking it up when trying too hard to solve everything on his own' but 'assuming there was no help to be had, and that he had to do it all on his own.'
Like. What if this really could all have been avoided if he'd just trusted and communicated with the adult in charge of him? But of course, of course his history of trauma (neglect, child abuse, exploitation, being the One Responsible for the younger kids whom he could not keep safe) meant he was absolutely not going to do that.
It was basically impossible. For the person he was, the person the world had made of him. And that's always been the core tragedy the whole novel circles back upon.
People can only ever be themselves, and so very often the elements of self that let them survive until now are that which dooms them, that means they need someone else to intervene if they're ever going to be saved. Because your personal doom is always the thing from which you can't save yourself.

hypothetically speaking how powerful would Machete be if he got competent therapy and came out 100% problem-free?
Hard to say. He might be less ambitious actually. He's extremely driven and hardworking in both iterations and it's mostly thanks to his low self-esteem. He's a compensating and overachieving perfectionist and feels like if he's not giving it 110% at all times he's doing an unsatisfactory job .

You didn't deserve that. You couldn't have known better. You are not dirty. You are not gross. You are not who they said you would become. You are not broken. You were a child. A vulnerable child. I'm sorry they took advantage of that. You deserve the world. You deserve safety. You deserve love. You deserve help. You are beautiful and worthy. I love you <3

sooo if ted is gone now will capril (cassandra x april) ever be a thing in your au? (i love ur au a lottt btw so well written!)
Thank you so much! As I've said in the past, I'm really trying to avoid actual ships in canon Replica! Like the tv show I do not want to make that the focus, HOWEVER I do want to leave it open ended in the same manner so that there's room for your own interpretation! So if you feel that there's Capril is in this Holiday Special... then there is!
For example: isn't it interesting that April is the only one Cassandra told about the pregnancy? Hm, that could easily be interpreted as just "girl talk" (since she's a woman and would understand better than the guys) or "lover's talk." Again I'm trying to leave this open for your personal preference! The same will go for several other ships, including Raph and Cassandra and even Donnie might have a little something going on the sidelines with a character I'll be bringing back in an upcoming update. Hehe.
Now, I will admit I have my personal preference of ships (I'm a huge romantic and have to really rein it in), but I keep them close to my heart and think that's a little unfair to enforce that onto a story that I want to try and keep "canon" when the canon has never confirmed any of them or even played in that space.
So TLDR, it can be whatever you want!

the fact that a shitty picture of an equally shitty computer setup elicited a unanimous response of: "are you telling me that this 'ethoslab' person isn't just a collective fever dream?" is just so INSANE to me
it feels like some weird confirmation that this etho guy is somewhat real as supposed to a universally loved disembodied canadian voice that wormed its way to the collective subconscious of minecraft fans everywhere.
its so insane. i want more. but also put it back. never do this again

more on michelin stars
I genuinely think it's going to be an important plot point in s3 re: why exactly Sydney wants a star and why *one* specifically. I went and researched and discovered something I used in my fic, which is that one Michelin star restaurants are excellent cuisine that normal people can still afford. And that connected, for me, to what Sydney had told Marcus about how going out was so special when she was a kid and she wanted to share that kind of amazing thing with people:
We didn't really like eat out a lot growing up, so when we did, it felt special even if it wasn't.... I wanna cook for people and make them happy and give them the best bacon on Earth (1x08)
I'm so hopeful/convinced that the research they have with, like, Matty (the chef who plays Fak) right there on set, means the writers know that about what one star places can be like. And that it's meant to be part of this - more humane vision of excellence for Sydney, where their spot is AMAZING, but it's not a cruel kitchen culture, it's not only for the rich.
For her, it’s *part* of her vision, where she says:
“I think this place could be so different from all the other places we've been at. But, in order for that to be true, we need to run things different.“ (1x03)
But Carmy sees a star and all it means (all he’s ever known it to mean) as a repudiation of that kind of humanity. You say the word "star" and immediately Carmy goes "fuck stars" (2x01) as pure self-defense - because stars are just pain and suffering to him. They're NYC chef and everything that mess became.
He's so traumatized by the whole thing he doesn't think to ask the right questions: why do you want one? What is your vision for it? Why do you specifically want *one* instead of two or three? What timeline do you have in mind for getting there and how can we strategize on this together?
Instead, because he wants so desperately to please her, despite that instinctive, self-defensive "fuck stars" he relents and asks - okay, are you sure? Are you positive this is what you want? Really?? It's terrible. It's just dread and fear and throwing up every day before work. You really want me to give you this?
(I’ll give you anything you want)
He never asks the right questions. Just assuming the level of pain which is his only experience of this is what the thing IS--playing into that theme about how people only know what they're taught, only know what they are given, and if we are given pain and patterns of it it is so hard to even imagine things can be different and, when you can imagine it, still so hard to actually get there.
(It’s not a coincidence that the ASL sign is one of the few positive, healthy examples of kitchen culture Carmy witnessed - we only know what we’re taught, and it can be hard work to even figure out what “not shitty” IS let alone doing it)
So he's assuming all of that and it's like - if she's his CDC, does she want him to push her as hard as he was pushed? Push himself that hard again? He doesn't want to do either of those things. But that's all he knows. And she keeps saying this is what she wants. And he wants to give her everything she wants.
(In the same conversation she kept saying yes, this is what I want, she expressed admiration for the designer chef outfit he later buys her as a gift - he wants to give her everything she wants, even when it seems like a terrible idea he’s torn about)
I think this misunderstanding is intentional and it’s going to come out in S3. A one star restaurant fits so perfectly with what we know of Sydney’s goals and love for her work! And Carmy not able to even conceive of something better because of the patterns he’s stuck in and finding his way to her vision makes sense for him.
I think Carmy figuring out how this work can be joyful and humane is going to be a huge part of S3. Sydney not becoming lost in the high stress environment, not following in younger!Carmy's footsteps living a life of pure drive and dread, and Carmy finding that for the first time.
I do think that, given where they both end in 2x10, there’s going to be a period of conflict and a real bunch of issues for both of them - but with themes and ideas like this seeded into the story there’s so many ways to make s3 start out in a bad way and then really end in joy in a beautiful way?

Not forgiving someone who has deeply hurt you is okay. You can’t force yourself to forgive and forget all those traumatic events that were caused by others, whether last year or twelve to thirty years ago. You can’t put a number on your feelings and your memories.
