LOKI EPISODES 4 and 5, HOLY SHIT!
Let me tell you, this past week was insane! I did manage to watch Episode 4 last week but pretty much fell asleep straight after so I completely missed writing about Episode 4!
So let's talk about that one first before I lose my absolute shit at Episode 5!
As always, HEAVY SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT!
So then... it is finally revealed that Ravonna had something to do with Kang before. I can't say I'm too surprised. And of course she would just kill a bunch of people to get her way.
Quite interesting how she pretended Loki was the villain this whole time when it's actually her. And don't even get me started on Brad!
I have a feeling we're gonna have a big confrontation in the final episode... but I'm getting ahead of myself--I am way too hyped now after Episode 5.
Now, I have to say, Episode 4 didn't have an awful lot of Loki in it, haha! But hells, did Episode 5 make up for that... DAMN!
The cliffhanger was something else. Obviously, the suspense wasn't one of "oh no, they're doomed and everyone's dead now" but rather "oh shit, how are they going to fix THAT?!"
Good thing it wasn't Loki who went out there... so much for spaghettification. So with that... let's move on to Episode 5 so I can lose my absolute shit!
The very moment O.B. mentioned that Loki might be able to control time slipping I was like 👀. I had a feeling where this was going but... patience, patience, patience.
I swear my poor heartbroken God of Mischief... the fact the timelines were all just evaporating was honestly scary. I mean, imagine your reality is falling apart and there is NOTHING left. NOTHING. And there's nowhere for you to go.
I thought it was convenient that Loki would show up in his friends' timelines until I realised there was a reason for that. Speaking of which... B15 was a doctor, aw! And Mobius finally has his Jetskis! And two sons?! GODS! I hope that they'll be able to combine their TVA life and their timeline life. There's gotta be a way, right?
But to be fair... Casey didn't wanna go back to prison (did you hear him say "they're gonna gut us like fish" I was cackling), Mobius loves jetskis but doesn't seem to be 100% fulfilled with this job... O.B. is a writer who's trying to make it (I felt that) and I guess... you could say B15 has great purpose as a doctor but still! So... I'm still with Loki, they did have a purpose at the TVA and it should be their choice.
I totally love the conversation between Loki and Sylvie here and the fact that she admitted that she's selfish. Is Loki selfish too? Yes and no. Yes, he wants his friends back. But why? Because he CARES about them. And because he knows that most of them aren't actually as happy as they should be in their timelines. Also, naturally, if he doesn't fix this, then all of reality will evaporate so his argument is quite valid.
I swear when he said "where do I belong then"... I was SO DAMN CLOSE TO TEARS. I just wanted to HUG him so bad! Because it's true, isn't it? Loki has no timeline to go back to. He can't just show up in Asgard and pretend like nothing ever happened. But a life like the one Sylvie thinks she's happy with, working at McDonald's? That's not it for Loki, we all know that! I swear... by the end of Season 2 it will be official that he found his glorious purpose!
I mean... just the fact that he was willing to give it all up alone... to let Mobius and everyone else go back to their timelines... NO ONE DARE SAY HE IS A VILLAIN EVER AGAIN, OUR PRECIOUS BABY!
I know I said we don't need Loki to be a self-righteous hero and we don't but the character development in this episode, the reflection of what's been going on with him... SO DAMN GOOD! It's proof that Loki has a good heart, honestly! I mean... we knew that already, it's not the first time we saw it on display but still... awww!
So what's next? Loki, the lord of time... I mean, I'm sorry... did he just become the most powerful being in the MCU?! JUSTICE FOR LOKI AT LAST! I WAS SCREAMING LET ME TELL YOU!
I was hoping for something like that so bad and now here we are! With how things are working out right now, I have a feeling it won't be long until Loki is back in the main MCU timeline and the ultimate force in the final battle against Kang!

Lost and Found
Pairing: Loki x reader
Warnings: mentions of memory loss, panic attack, fluff
Summary: you grow concerned for Adam as his flashes increase, and do your best to be there for him.
Part 9-
====================================
Tumblr media
You woke up to your alarm going off, you shut it off laying back down. You saw Adam's arm wrapped around you holding you to him like you might disappear. You rolled over to look at him as he squeezed tighter and groaned. "Adam, wake up." You said gently pushing his hair back. "Mmm..I don't want to." He groaned. You laughed running your fingers through his hair. "Well you have to release me." You said giggling. "No, mine." He huffed pulling you closer. "Love, I have to take care of the animals." You said nuzzling into his neck. He opened his eyes looking at you, he looked exhausted. "Why don't you sleep a little longer and I'll go take care of everything." You said kissing his cheek. "No, I'm coming." He smiled rubbing your back. "OK, I'll go put on coffee." You smiled, leaning down softly kissing him, he hummed kissing you back.
You got dressed, waiting for the coffee to finish. You were pouring yours and Adam's when he came in wrapping his arms around you. You turned in his arms, reaching up to kiss him. "Love you look exhausted." You said caressing his cheek. "I didn't sleep well, I've been having nightmares." He said looking down. "About what?" You asked looking at him. "I'm not sure, past memories, things that don't make sense " he said furrowing his eyebrows. "I can honeslty handle things if you want to go lay down." You said rubbing his arms. "No my dear ill be fine, I'll take a nap later. I just need that." He said reaching for his cup. "Well if you change your mind let me know ok?" You said grabbing your cup. He leaned down placing a gentle kiss on your lips "I will, I promise." He smiled as you both headed to the stables.
You finished feeding the animals when you noticed the clouds moving in. "Adam, I think a storm is coming, we need to secure the animals." You said. He nodded as he started shutting the gates to the pens. You got all of them settled and went to shut the door when you heard a clap of thunder. You looked up to see the wall of gray clouds. "This is going to be a bad one." You said looking to Adam, he looked frozen. "Hey, are you ok?" You touched his arm and he flinched. Just then you saw a flash of lightning and Adam sank to the ground, covering his head. "Adam, what is it?" You kneeled next to him as another clap of thunder sounded. He didn't say anything, but you could see him shaking slightly.
"Adam, look at me please." You said rubbing his head. He looked at you, his eyes looked frantic, he was breathing irratic. "Adam, love look at me and breath." You said moving in front of him grabbing his hands "it's OK, I'm right here, just breathe please." You said looking into his eyes. You moved between his legs and hugged him tight, rubbing his back. Another clap of thunder sounded and you felt him tense again. "I'm here love, nothings going to hurt you." You said gripping him tighter when you felt his arms wrap around you. You felt his breathing even out "I have to go secure the horses, are you ok coming with me?" You asked still hugging him. He nodded so you slowly pulled away looking into his eyes. "I'll be right by you ok?" You said. Seeing him nod, you got up grabbing his hands and walked with him to the stable. "We'll hurry, just give me one second." You said hurrying and shutting the doors. You looked over to check on him and saw him looking at the sky with his arms around himself. You weren't sure what scared him so bad about the storm, all you knew is you needed to get him inside.
You got him to the house taking him to the kitchen. He had been silent the whole way back. You stood him by the counter while you made him tea, grabbing his hand leading him the the couch you had him sit down, grabbing a blanket and throwing it over his shoulders. You sat on the table across from him rubbing his arms "love are you ok? Talk to me please." You said looking at him. He cleared his throat "Yes, I'm not sure what happened." He said looking down. "Hey, it's ok, maybe your afraid of thunder, lots of people are." You said still rubbing his arms. He didn't say anything but you had an idea. "You drink your tea, I'll be right back I promise." You said getting up, attaching your phone the the speakers, the music started.
When your legs don't work like they used to before and I can't sweep you off of your feet Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks
You walked over, grabbing Adam's hand pulling him up. "Dance with me." You whispered in his ear as you swayed to the music. Wrapping your arms around his neck, his going to your hips as he swayed with you.
And darling I will be loving you 'til we're 70 And baby my heart could still fall as hard at 23 And I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways Maybe just the touch of a hand
You sang along pulling him closer, watching the smile spread across his face as your hands played with his hair.
Oh me I fall in love with you every single day And I just wanna tell you I am So honey now Take me into your loving arms Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars Place your head on my beating heart i'm thinking out loud Maybe we found love right where we are
You reached up, kissing him gently, pulling him into a hug as you both swayed through the living room, you singing with the song.
When my hair's all but gone and my memory fades and the crowds don't remember my name when my hands don't play the strings the same way, I know you will still love me the same
Cause honey your soul can never grow old, it's evergreen baby your smile's forever in my mind and memory im thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways maybe it's all part of a plan ill just keep on making the same mistakes hoping that you'll understand
You feel him hug you tighter as he listens to the song. You reach up and kiss his neck as you bury your face between his neck and shoulder.
But baby now take me into your loving arms kiss me under the light of a thousand stars place your head on my beating heart I'm thinking out loud that maybe we found love right where we are, oh baby, we found love right where we are..
And we found love right where we are
As the song ended you pulled back a little, looking into his eyes. "I love you Adam, I always will" you smiled at him. "I love you too y/n" he said, cupping your cheek, leaning down softly kissing you. In that moment, life couldn't have been more perfect...

Out Of The Darkness, Chapter 8
Tumblr media
‘Not another one.’ Tony groaned after watching the news.
‘Do you think it’s him?’ Steve asked, looking at Loki.
‘From what we’ve heard from Grace, I’d say so.’ Loki nodded.
The past week, there had been an influx of weird goings on in the city nearby. Weird deaths, suicides, attacks. There was at least three a day.
‘Does Grace think it is?’ Natasha asked.
‘She’s been spending more and more time in the garden, seems quieter and more nervous again than she has been… So I’d say so.’ Loki said.
‘We should keep a close eye on her, make sure she’s ok.’ Said Vision.
‘We also need to put some plans into action, try and figure out how we are going to stop him.’ Natasha said. ‘But we will need Grace’s help, she knows him better than anyone, unfortunately.’
Loki ran a hand down his face. ‘I don’t think there’s anything left for her to tell us about him.’
‘I suppose not.’ Steve sighed. ‘We should speak to Jessica again too, she might have some ideas.’
‘In the meantime, ramp up security. We can’t risk Kilgrave getting near Grace again.’ Loki said determinedly and looked at Tony, who nodded in agreement.
‘We can’t risk him getting near any of us unprepared, god knows what he would make us do if he got the chance.’ Wanda said and everyone agreed.
-
Loki was heading to the kitchen that evening before bed, it was gone eleven so he assumed that Grace would be in bed. But when he passed by her room, he paused as he couldn’t sense her in there. With a frown, he knocked on the door but there was no answer.
Feeling a little worried, he quickly hurried on to the kitchen to check but she wasn’t there. He checked a few other places around the base too, but still no sign. He was beginning to get really worried, when he looked out the window, towards her garden.
And there she was. There were some lights on that Tony had put up in the garden for her, he saw her just sitting on the bench in the middle with a blanket wrapped around herself.
So of course, he rushed straight down there, used his mini fireworks to dance into her line of sight since she had her headphones in.
She put on a smile as she took them off. ‘Hey.’ She said quietly when Loki sat down next to her.
‘Hey.’ He smiled back at her. ‘What are you doing out here at this time?’
Grace shrugged and looked down at her hands nervously. ‘I… I just feel safest here right now. I… I know he’s near, everything going on in the city. It’s him.’ Her voice was wavering slightly.
Loki reached over and put his hands over hers, squeezing softly. ‘I know it’s scary, but he can’t get you here, or inside… You’ve not been sleeping well the last few nights, have you?’
She shook her head. ‘I’m so scared he gets in… I can’t go back to that life, I just can’t.’ She said in a panic, starting to get worked up as tears rolled down her cheeks.
Loki turned more to her and gently encased her in his arms, he pulled her into his chest and stroked her hair softly. ‘Shhh, shhh. It’s ok, petal. It’s ok. You will not go back to him. He will not get you, I give you my word.’
Grace hugged him back tightly, feeling herself starting to calm down a little bit in his arms. She knew she was safer than she ever could be being around Loki and the others, but knowing what Kilgrave could do and not knowing if his powers would work on them all or not, that was terrifying.
‘You weren’t planning on spending the whole night out here, were you?’ Loki asked as his hand slipped down to rub her back soothingly.
She nodded against him.
Loki felt his heart break over how scared she was. He hated seeing her like that.
‘I don’t think sleeping on a bench out in the cold would be better than in a comfy warm bed.’ He hummed. She didn’t respond to that. But after comforting her for a while, Loki stood up and put his hand out towards her.
She really didn’t want to go back inside. But she knew that he was right, she couldn’t stay out here all night. There was Stark’s high-tech security all around the building, but she felt safer with Loki’s protection.
Grace took his hand and he gently pulled her up to her feet, then still holding her hand he led her back inside and to her room.
‘You’re going to struggle to sleep, aren’t you?’ Loki said knowingly when they entered her room.
She nodded in response, Loki could see her struggling not to panic again. Just the thought of turning out the lights and trying to sleep, knowing he was so close, it was almost worse than the nightmares themselves.
Loki crossed the room and pulled out the chair from her desk, he turned it around near the end of the bed and sat down, smiling over at her.
‘What are you doing?’ She raised an eyebrow.
‘I will stay here, protect you until you fall asleep. I’ll make sure he doesn’t get you, if he somehow gets in here.’ Loki stated.
Grace was speechless for a moment, she just stared at him in awe. Then she snapped out of it and laughed shyly.
‘Loki… I appreciate that, but you don’t have to do this, I don’t expect you to.’
‘I know you don’t, but will it make you feel safer if I do?’ Loki looked at her with such a sweet look that her heart was melting.
She wanted to say no, so he wouldn’t go out of his way and do it. But she couldn’t lie to him. Well, she could but she knew that he would be able to tell it was a lie, but even if he wasn’t able to tell, she still wouldn’t want to lie to Loki.
‘It… it would…’ Grace said quietly.
‘Well then, I will be your guard for tonight.’ Loki grinned.
Grace stood there for a moment again, still trying to comprehend that Loki would do this for her. Then she shook her head and went to grab her nightwear from the drawer.
‘I’ll just uhm… get changed.’ She said slightly awkwardly and pointed to the bathroom.
When she came out of the bathroom, she saw that Loki had conjured up a book to read. Which made her feel a little better, that he had something to do. But surely, he wouldn’t stay for long? Just until she fell asleep…
As she crawled into bed, she thought it would take her ages to fall asleep like it had done the last few nights. But also because Loki was there, she wasn’t really sure what to think or what to do. But in fact, having his presence there had the desired effect he’d been hoping for, she fell asleep almost as soon as her head hit the pillow.
-
Grace woke up just before seven in the morning, she was shocked she’d been able to sleep for that long without waking up even once. She had never felt so well rested before, didn’t even have one nightmare.
Looking across the room, her heart melted when she saw Loki was still there. He’d fallen asleep on the chair that really didn’t look comfy.
Wanting to do something for him in return, she threw on her dressing gown and rushed off to the kitchen to get him breakfast. Luckily Bruce was already there and had made a batch of pancakes for everyone, so she piled some onto a plate with syrup, jam and butter, made a cup of tea just like he liked, and headed back to her room.
Loki had just woken up and was standing up to stretch, Grace was slightly in awe at how tiny he made her room look when he stretched up high like that.
‘You’re so damn tall, it’s ridiculous.’ She laughed and sat down on the side of her bed.
‘Perks of being a God.’ Loki chuckled and joined Grace on the side of the bed. ‘You made pancakes?’
‘No, I got lucky. Bruce was making them when I went to get you something to eat.’ She said sheepishly as she handed the tray to him.
‘Thank you, petal. Did you sleep well?’
‘Like a baby… Thank you so much, Loki. You do so much for me, I wish I could do something for you too.’
Loki nudged her with his arm playfully. ‘Seeing you safe and happy is all I need.’ He smiled and offered her a pancake.

IT WAS STRANGE TO BE BACK ON MIDGARD. and right now, thor knew that very well, because.. no, he hadn't expected that he would ever see it again. in fact, he only had one reason to be in midgard and.. no, right now - he didn't want to think about that. in fact, as always - he was more than happy to keep the bad thoughts away, because.. no, he had never been one to think too much about them. sometimes? sometimes, he allowed himself to think about what had happened. about jane and about everyone that he had lost but.. no, he could not keep that up for that long. after all - love needed him and that was exactly why he needed to find her, before the little rugrat destroyed the entire town. and yes, he did say that lovingly. of course he did. still, when he saw a very familiar face standing not very far away from him, thor froze, blinking a few times. no. it could not be. he had lost loki far too many times and.. no, he didn't know what to believe anymore. was it real? was he truly here? "i must have lost my mind for good," and yet, some loose tears were already falling down. of course that they were. "you know, brother.. if you were truly here - i would even give you a hug. can't say that i would let your skinny ass go anytime soon, either. REGARDLESS, YOU ARE NOT AND.. PERHAPS, I MIGHT JUST BE GETTING OLD. seeing things. the whole deal." and yet, why was he crying? it made no sense.

Loki: Oh, look, a snake! When me and Thor were younger, I once turned myself into a snake, because Thor loves snakes-
Mobius: So he went to pick up the snakes to admire it and you transformed back into yourself and you were like: "Bleargh-"
Loki:
Loki: I know you know the story, I just wanted to tell it.
Mobius: Do you miss Thor?
Loki: Ansolutely not.
Mobius: ...That's, that's actually a bummer, because we had to go to this mission and I heard Thor was going to be around, even if for a bit, and I don't know if he could interfere with the mission and I surely would have liked someone at my side who knew how to handle him-
Loki: I...I suppose I can make an effort and...and deal with him, just because I am now merciful God instead of a vengeful one, but don't you dare take advantage of my mercy-
Mobius, smiling: I wouldn't dream of it.

Vicious
Part II
Tumblr media
Pairing: Steve x reader, Bucky x reader, Thor x reader, Loki x reader, Peter x reader
Warnings: yandere, obsession, stalking, possessiveness, theft, all characters are adults.
Words: 1891.
Part I
Summary: Transferring to Stark Academy that has only allowed to take in female students last semester, you realize you are just one of three young women among hundreds of students. Your things are constantly being stolen, and soon you begin fearing for your safety.
P.S. To avoid any confusion, I changed the name Savages -> Vicious.
________________________
The next day you spent doubting your own decisions. Was it really wise to leave everything to Steve? How could he find those students all by himself and deal with your problem? Could he really stop them from acting like that? You thought once again it would be so much easier to ask for a transfer, but you had already given him your word to meet him today at 5. It would be very inappropriate not to come when he was trying to help you.
When the time came, you were sneaking in the student council room as if you were some petty thief. You were afraid people would start talking: if everybody knew who stole your things, they would understand you came to Steve for help like a little girl. It was embarrassing - even in a situation like this. Besides, somebody could be following you since at 5 pm the academy was almost empty.
By the time you reached the right door, you heart was beating as if you had just run a marathon. You really, really hoped Steve found some solution, and you wouldn’t have to be humiliated by the student advisor for wanting to leave the school.
Opening the door, you saw a couple of students on the sofa and quickly stepped away, afraid the student council was still having a meeting, “Ugh, sorry!”
“Come in, please,” Steve said calmly behind the door, and you shyly got in again, watching four other guys staring at you with interest. “We’ve been waiting for you.”
“What, they too?” You were so perplexed by his words you forgot your manners, speaking of others as if they weren’t in the same room. “I’m sorry, I mean, I didn’t know you were involved.”
Wait, were they the ones who stole your things? Did Steve bring them here for you?
“No need to be so nervous.” One of them, a guy with long, jet black hair forming waves around his shoulders told you, motioning you to come closer and sit in one of the chairs opposing the sofa where he sat. “We’re here to help you.”
You remembered his name was Loki. A mathematic genius, he was considered one of the top students of the academy.
“That’s right! Come, come!” Seeing Peter among others was surprising, but his smiling face made you calm down a little, and you smiled at him in return.
No, they weren’t those guys who stole your underwear, for sure. Apparently, Steve asked them to join you because they knew something and could give you a hand in finding those bastards.
“Thank you for agreeing to see me.” Feeling a little self-conscious among five different men you'd barely known, you landed on one of the chairs and saw that the other two were Bucky and a captain of the academy’s basketball team, Thor. “Did you find out anything?”
“Yes,” Steve said with a loud sigh, “I know exactly who they are. I can hand them over to the school’s officials and get them expelled by tomorrow, but that’s not the real issue here.”
You felt the chills ran up your back. What did he mean by the real issue?
“Is there something else?”
When you saw Loki smirking at you, you suddenly realized you were among five strong men in the student council room on the fifth floor where most classrooms were already empty. If you screamed, nobody would even hear you.
“Stop it.” Bucky’s angry voice cut through the silence, and you saw him literally burning a hole in Loki’s face. “Don’t make her scared, freak.”
Obviously, he wanted to say something offensive to Barnes in return, but Steve silenced them both with his icy glare. Loki sent him an innocent smile while Bucky snorted and rolled his eyes in irritation. It felt like they were in the middle of some school play, and you bit down on your lower lip, having a feeling something was going horribly wrong.
“The thing is, even if we got those ones expelled, it probably won’t stop the others from doing something similar.” Steve leaned up against a desk with his arms crossed over his chest. “I feel terrible admitting it, but many of our students are completely wild. I’m afraid they might keep harassing you.”
“Oh.”
You averted your eyes, realizing your attempts to find a solution were futile. Obviously, Steve could do nothing - he wasn’t a knight in shining armor, ready to protect you day and night from those delinquents who followed you everywhere. As you thought before, the one thing that could help here was leaving the school for good.
Shit, you didn’t know how to explain it to your family, Even your friends thought it was too bizarre to be true and laughed at your worries, saying you probably lost your things yourself. You would have to find a better excuse for a transfer in the middle of the semester.
“Well, anyway, thank you for trying,” you nodded and smiled apologetically at him as if it were your fault, “tomorrow I will talk to the student advisor about my transfer. Sorry for the trouble!”
“I don’t think it’s real to get transferred by now. It’s passed all the deadlines.” Shaking his head, Bucky raised his voice, and you felt suffocating.
Apparently, you would really have to skip a whole year of school. Explaining everything to your family, looking for some garbage job to have enough money to rent a room and pay your bills... Fantastic.
“You don’t have to do that. I’ve found another way.”
Immediately, you raised your head, your pupils dilating.
“You see, the reason they are doing that is because you have no one to protect you. They know the administration won’t take it seriously because they’re a bunch of old misogynists, and you also have no means of protecting yourself. It would be better if you started dating someone, someone strong enough to make these guys back down.”
Steve looked deadly serious for someone saying such nonsense. A boyfriend? Now? Was he for real? Did he think you'd be using someone like your personal shield? Besides, even if you chose the strongest guy at school, it didn’t mean he would be stronger if several people attacked him.
But when you shared your thoughts with Steve, you saw others smiling at you as if they knew you would say that, and you felt uneasy.
“That’s true. That’s why you need more than one boyfriend.”
“What do you mean? How can somebody have more than one boyfriend?" Puzzled, you stared at him wide-eyed as if he said something stupid.
What on Earth did he mean by that? Were you to have your own squad of bodyguards at all times while you were in the academy? This was so foolish you couldn't believe someone like Steve said it out loud.
But then you caught glances of five men in the room and forgot how to breathe for a second. They weren't serious, were they? Steve didn't assemble all these guys here to make them into your boyfriends. It was preposterous even thinking of that, right?
Right?
"Please tell me it's not what I think it is." You muttered, crossing your arms over your chest as if trying to protect yourself.
"Why are you being so nervous?" Baring his teeth, Loki smiled at you. "Some other girl would be happy if five men were to be her boyfriends."
"It's a joke, right? You're all joking."
You hoped to see any of them laughing and nodding their heads, saying they simply wanted to cheer you up, but all you saw was a guilty expression on the faces of Bucky and Thor and the excitement of others. They really gathered here to offer you this.
"All of us here," Steve looked upon others, becoming a little displeased when his gaze fell upon smiling Peter, "are perfectly capable of helping you. If each of us were to accompany you one day a week, others won't be so brave. I'm sure they will no longer be a nuisance to you if they know what we can do to them."
There was something very dark in the way Steve said that, and for a couple of seconds you weren't sure whether you have to be more scared of him rather than those who was stealing your things.
"But it would be very uncomfortable for everyone, wouldn't it? I mean, going with me everywhere, not using your own time as you'd like. And, well, surely, others will see that we won't act like a real couple, so they might still keep harassing me. I don't think it would work."
Apparently, Loki was bored with this talk, you thought as you heard him clicking his tongue in annoyance.
"Then don't pretend. Act like a real girlfriend. Kiss in public, hug, go to the cinema together, what else girls do?"
"Wait, you mean, with ALL of you?"
"Yeah? Do you think anyone gonna be against it?"
You very much hoped they would be. Being followed by someone like your bodyguard was one thing, but having a real boyfriend was very different. Did they really want to pretend to be lovey-dovey with you? Act like you were close to them?
Oh. Of course, they would. They belonged to the same kind of touch-starved barbaric men they were trying to protect you from. They would do all those things to you, too.
You realized you were crying only when Peter flew off his seat in a hurry and squatted down beside you, taking your shaking hands in warm his.
"Please, don't cry. Nobody's gonna force you into doing anything, I promise. You will only do things you're comfortable with, ok?" Handing you his pearly white handkerchief, he smiled to comfort you. "No one of us gonna say anything."
"And if she starts dating one of us for real? What's then?" It was Loki again, cocking his head to the side and obviously provoking Peter to yell at him.
"We'll be ok with that, too."
The silence felt heavy. As you opened your eyes, Peter's handkerchief in your hands, you realized it was Thor who spoke for the first time, and the way he looked at you softly made you feel a little better. Despite the fact you knew little of him, for some reason, it felt like you would be safe with him - certainly safer than with Loki.
"Naturally, if any of us will bring you discomfort or do something unacceptable, you need to let us all know, and we'll decide what to do with that person." Raising his voice, the head of the student council made everyone to turn their head to him. "We will be meeting here, in this room, if anything happens. Each of us will give you our phone numbers. We will also make a schedule who accompanies you every day of the week."
It seemed he no longer asked for your opinion if you even wanted it to happen.
__________
"Bucky will be with you on Mondays, Loki on Tuesdays. Wednesdays are Thor's, on Thursdays Peter will be following you, and on Fridays it will be me going with you. Of course, if you need any of us to watch over you on weekends, feel free to contact whoever of us you like more."

What I Missed - Loki Laufeyson
summary: while in custody at the TVA, loki realizes what he misses from the future, only to be surprised by what he gets in the present
word count: 2100+
warnings: a little angsty, a little emotional, mention of loki’s death, episode 1 spoilers
Tumblr media
Today was certainly not Loki’s day.
Over the course of a few hours (or more, or less, this is the TVA, afterall) he had been in the custody of the Avengers, had happened upon the Tesseract and escaped from New York. It seemed too good to be true, and it was. Just when he thought he had truly outsmarted the Earthly heroes again, he was imprisoned and taken again.
Now here he was, under the supervision of the Time Variance Authority and one, Mobius, a bizarre administrator in charge of tracking down the most dangerous of variants. It all seemed like madness to Loki. He was used to silly games and grandiose tricks but this story of timelines and space lizards seemed beyond even his own trickery. It seemed downright absurd. And annoying.
He had been subject to what he would call an interrogation. Mobius, however, called it a simple conversation. A slideshow of his life, his “greatest hits” as Mobius had called it and a relentless fire of questions, the memory of which continued to burn in his memory:
Should you return, what are you going to do?
King of Midgard? Then what, happily ever after?
King of Space?
Why does someone with so much capability just want to rule?
Do you enjoy hurting people?
That one had burned most of all. Did he enjoy hurting people? Hardly. And it was upsetting to him that anyone would think that. But he also understood what he appeared to be to every other living creature. He had just relived the moment in which he killed that daft agent and his mother. His mother. He refused to believe he was at fault for that. Frigga was the only person who truly saw him and whom Loki cared for deeply. But it seemed so clear in the moving picture, he had led them right to her.
It was in that moment, with tears and rage in his eyes, he knew he needed to get out of the disastrous time circus. He no longer cared to be a monkey in this ring. If he could find the tesseract, he could escape and be free once again.
That plan had gone almost perfectly. The only thing that went wrong - there is no magic in the TVA. No matter how many times he held the tesseract in his hands, wishing it to take him back to Midgard or Asgard, he was met with nothing but the bland walls in this TVA Time Theater. There was no hope in escaping.
Feeling exhausted, Loki slowly moves toward the table in the center of the room. He sits down and admires the machine in front of him. As grim as the stories it held could be, it was still quite fascinating that it could replay the highlights from his life - in a weird way, at least. He reaches out and turns the knob, searching for the moment his mother dies. He finds it and watches in silence for a while, tears beginning to fall down his face.
He turns the knob again.
He sees a future version of himself sitting next to his father and Thor. He watches as his father declares his love for his sons. Sons, plural. Both Thor and him. A small smile graces Loki’s face before Odin disappears, leaving the two men behind. Loki holds back a sob as tears continue to flood from his eyes. His father did love him, did see purpose for him. He wasn’t just the mischievous son. He’s sad that it took this long to understand that, and sad that he never got to experience this himself, even if a future version of him did.
Another turn of the knob.
This scene immediately feels different. He sees a garden, full of life, beautiful flowers blooming in every direction. He sees himself, sitting under a tree smiling next to a young woman. As the scene progresses he realizes this version of him is smiling at you. He lets out a small gasp when he watches the pair share a kiss and wipes the quickly falling tears from his cheeks. He had always loved you, but had never gotten the chance to tell you. The two of you had met through Thor, when he brought both you and Jane to Asgard. He had taken to you quickly, enjoying your similar sarcasm and humor - something that was scarce within his home realm. You, like his mother, had always seen the good in him and had understood his struggle. It was something he would never understand, you being of Midgard. You knew what he had done and had been there to see the destruction, but still saw him not as the God of Mischief or Earth Enemy #1, only Loki. He aches for the fact that he never got to feel the happiness his future self did, especially when it was happiness with you.
Turn the knob.
Loki and Thor stand in a room together. Loki lets out a small laugh in the midst of his tears, wondering how his oaf of a brother managed to lose an eye. Maybe a dumb bet between the two of them, maybe there was a battle amongst the nine realms. He’s quickly pulled from his thoughts as he hears Thor speak.
“Maybe you’re not so bad after all, brother.”
“Maybe not,” the future Loki responds.
“Thank you,” Thor replies, “If you were here, I might even give you a hug.”
“I’m here.”
Loki smiles and nods to himself. From where he’s sitting now, it’s a wonder that he and his brother ever made up. He realizes now that the fighting and the sibling rivalry may have all been in his head. He, again, curses himself for leaving New York and allowing himself to miss these moments that he’s been waiting his whole life for.
Fast-forward.
He and you lay in a room, seemingly on the same ship as the previous scene. You lay snug against his chest, his arms wrapped tightly around you. You hum softly before speaking up.
“I love you, you know.”
By the look on both of your faces, it’s the first time this has been said out loud. There’s nervous tension in the room, Loki can feel it through this screen. He somehow knows the words his future self is going to say before he hears them.
“I love you too, darling. You bring out the best in me.”
You snuggle closer to him, if that’s even possible, and there’s a comfortable silence for a few seconds. Loki takes a moment to admire this picture. It was something he had wanted since he had first met you on Asgard. You had stuck out like a sore thumb, dressed in your casual Midgardian clothes. He couldn’t have missed you even if he tried, nobody could have. And boy was he glad about that now.
“Promise me something,” he watches himself say.
“Anything,” you whisper. “Anything for you, Loki.”
“Promise me, no matter what, you’ll always help me see the good in myself. I’ve too long suffered at the hands of those who desperately wish for me to see the bad.”
You let out a laugh and the Loki stuck in time laughs with you, “Oh, Loki. I wish you could see yourself as I see you. But I promise.”
“Thank you, my love.”
“You, Loki, may be a God, but you will always just be the man I fell in love with. The good, kind, and honorable man I call mine.”
Turn, again.
Loki sees himself kneeling and before he can question why, he watches as his future self moves to attack someone in front of him. When Loki realizes it's Thanos, he’s quickly on his feet, moving closer to the screen. The tears are gone now, and a silent rage burns behind his eyes. There was nothing from Loki but hate for the purple titan. He watches in horror as Thanos picks Loki up from the floor, a death grip on his neck. Loki wonders to himself how he would get himself out of this scenario had he been there. He assumes an illusion would do the trick. However, he notices your distraught figure behind the mad titan. He can hear your screams as you kneel next to Thor, who is imprisoned in cuffs. He hears you call out to him and he knows this will not end well. His suspicions are right when he watches his death. A shocked gasp comes from his throat as the tape in front of him runs out, nothing left to show.
Loki quickly sits back down and closes his eyes, trying his hardest to process the vision he saw. To one version of him, these would have been experiences and now memories. To him, though, these were all subtle tastes of a life he lost. He lost a touching moment with his father and a long awaited declaration of love from him. He lost the reconciliation with his brother and the confession that they had been more partners than rivals. Even though to him it had not yet happened, he missed it all, and it upset him deeply.
What hurt Loki the most was the idea that he lost his chance to feel his love reciprocated. Loki had never had much luck with romance. He was often seen as the sly younger brother and was usually too occupied to try and compete with Thor for the maidens at court. When he met you, he thought he had a chance. You were the first woman who saw him as his own person and not just as Thor’s brother. The relationship between the two of you had blossomed quickly and he found himself always sneaking away from his princely duties to see you. He had shown you his favorite places in Asgard and had opened up to you in ways he had never done before. He loved you and wanted you to be his. His one regret was not initiating a relationship before you had left for Midgard. And he thought his chances had been ruined by his actions in New York. Oh, how wrong he was.
Before Loki can dwell on his future more, Mobius comes bursting into the room.
“Ah Loki, glad you made your way back here. I have something for you,” he says.
“If this is another one of your tricks, I’m not currently in the mood,” Loki responds coolly.
“Just trust me on this one.”
Mobius shouts over his shoulder for someone to “bring her in.” Loki eyes the guards who walk in suspiciously until he notices who they bring with them. He can hardly believe his eyes. The gods in all the realms must be smiling down on him today, after all, because there you stand. He takes in your hideous red and white space suit, emblazoned with the Avengers logo, and he’s at least thankful he missed whatever battle this suit was required for.
He quickly stands and rushes over to you, a smile quickly gracing his face. You meet his gaze with a smile that is just as big and tears begin to flow from your eyes.
“Loki,’ you start. “Is that really you?”
He nods and speaks, although his words are barely audible, “It’s me, my love.”
“God, I thought I lost you forever. That’s why I went back in time to find you.”
Loki nods, now, unable to believe what he’s hearing, “You went back to find me?”
“Yes, but look what good that did me,” you say with a smirk. Loki’s heart pulls and he feels he could fall over right there. Norns, he missed you and your witty humor.
“Well,” he says, reciprocating your sly attitude, “You found me did you not? I might not be the same Loki as you knew, but I am still Loki.”
“The good, kind, and honorable Loki that I call mine.”
Loki smiles and you move forward to give him a hug. You’re cautious, though, because you aren’t exactly sure what part of the timeline this Loki came from. Maybe you had already been dating, maybe not. That was something to figure out another time though.
“Alright then,” Mobius says from behind you, “Let’s get you two caught up on what you missed with each other.”
Today was certainly not Loki’s day. And he had cursed all that was good that he had ended up at the TVA, taken from the life he knew. But now? He didn’t mind. He knew the relationships that were broken with his brother and father had been mended, he knew that one version of him had sacrificed himself for good and he had you, not only in memory but in the flesh. And sure, you had lots to rediscover within your relationship, but you would do that together.

Never Enough
Pairing: Loki x Female!Reader Word Count: 1.4k T/W: Sad, then comfort  A/N: Vent fic 🙃 Loki comforts reader while feeling like they’re not “enough”
Tumblr media
Loki pushed open the golden door, even though it was his own chamber he approached it carefully, “Darling?” he called out, before completely stepping in, the door closing behind him. He’d checked everywhere. The Bifrost, where you loved to stargaze, the gardens, the stables, your own chamber where you were technically supposed to be staying.
Approaching the balcony he caught sight of your figure, the hem of your Asgardian dress was caught in the light wind that made the fabric dance around your bare feet. You were leaning with your elbows on the balcony, chin in your palms, eyes fixated on the stars above.
“Darling?” Loki called again, this time softer as he met you.
With a slight startle, you straightened up, hands gripping the balcony. Looking over your shoulder you relaxed, “oh,” you smiled, happy with who it was, before you looked away again, seemingly in a bit of a daze.
Standing alongside you, he observed your expression. Your eyes were lined with tears, your jaw was tight, and you were in a battle to keep yourself calm. Hair blew in your face, but you didn’t care, your whole center was set on gazing forward and ignoring everything else.
“Do you want to go home, Darling?” Loki asked, placing his hand on top of your against the golden banister, as he brushed the hair out of your face with his free hand.
“No,” you attempted a smile, looking at his hand then up to him, whose eyes were set gazing on you, “quite the opposite actually, I like it here, with you. Away from. . .things.”
“Things?” he tilted his head, to try and keep eye contact with you as you ducked your head a little, “what kind of things?”
“People,” you breathed in an annoyed sigh, “words, emotions-”
“Are we playing a puzzle or can you give me a slightly clearer picture?” He furrowed his brows in the most sincere way, genuinely wanting to know what was going on.
You laughed quietly to yourself, nodding completely aware how confusing you were probably being, “sorry, I’m not used to people asking how I’m feeling,” you gazed up at the stars once more before turning to walk away from the balcony, “or actually caring for that matter.”
He followed you to the shallow stairs leading back into the bedroom, where you had sat down, knees tucked into yourself.
“You know I care,” he stood in front of you, “and you know you can tell me anything.”
You softly gave a smile, resting your head against your arms, folded on top of your knees. You weren’t exactly sure how to word it, it wasn’t life changing or detrimental, it just hurt, like a wound you’d not expected to receive.
“I don’t really know how to say it,” you admitted, as Loki joined you, sitting barely an inch beside you.
It was quiet for a while, but a needed, peaceful quiet. More of a calm than anything. You knew he would understand, but you felt guilty for even talking about your pain when there was so much of his own he was dealing with. But having him know you were hurting and not letting him in would be a cruel act in and of itself.
Slowly, you reached for his hand, and he willingly gave it. You pulled his hand into your lap, where you held it with one hand and traced his knuckles with your fingertips of the other. His skin was somehow always warm, but with a trace of a chill. It made you smile, remembering the first time you saw him with his Frost Giant skin. But that only reminded you of the pain he suffered and was reminded of daily.
With a small gasp and attempt to swallow your tears back, you furrowed your eyebrows on the brink of breaking.
“Sweetheart,” Loki moved even closer yet, taking both your hands in his, but leaving them in your lap, “please, how can I help? What’s wrong?”
“I thought-“ you paused, eyelashes fluttering as you tried to ignore the sting of withheld tears finally falling, “I thought I had stopped letting people get to me,” you subtly shook your head, as Loki watched a tear caress your cheek, “I guess I just never expected the people who love me to hurt me.”
Loki gave you a moment to breathe before starting, “I think it’s the deepest wound we can feel,” he sighed, knowingly, “because they don’t think it hurts, they think it’ll help,” he looked at your hands in his, “there’s always a lesson for us to learn it seems.”
Staring straight ahead, you took a deep breath as if the air was suddenly fresh, a weight was off your chest Your eyelids were heavy, tired, but your voice was even, “exactly, never enough.”
Pressing his lips together he swallowed, hating to see you in such pain, but also so vividly aware of the emotions you were feeling himself. It’s always second chair, never quite enough.
“Don’t even get me started on sibling rivalry,” you tilted your head, trying to smile out of an annoyance more than hurt at that one.
“Ah, yes,” Loki smiled, inhaling deeply, “we know that one all too well it would seem. When living under a shadow one rarely meets the sunbeam of praise and exaltation.”
Looking to him, you smiled, a compassionate understanding smile, that both said ‘I’m sorry that you can understand’ but also, ‘thank you for understanding’ as well. Your tears fell down your cheek, each like a little stream, until it fell. You looked down, giving a distressed, “oh no,” as you noticed some teardrops had fallen on his hands. You quickly tried to take a bit of your dress and wipe them off.
“Nevermind them,” Loki spoke in a whisper as he brought a finger to hook under your chin, causing you to tilt your head up just enough, you looked at him with lips parted and eyes heavy.
Softly, at first, his lips met yours, tasting the tears that had lingered on your lips. You melted into his kiss and into his arms as he pulled you closer, fingertips ghosting down your neck. It was such a tender warmth, you never wanted to leave.
“Darling,” he slowly pulled back and said almost breathlessly, “I want you to know that this will heal, I promise you. Sometimes people say things, in the thick of it. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. This is real, this hurts, but it will heal.”
You felt the tears welling again, and Loki could see your eyebrows knit together, as you tried to hold back. But he didn’t need you to speak for him to know how you were feeling now, because he’d known that very expression in himself as well.
“I know, Love, I know,” he cradled your head against his shoulder, feeling your tears now run against his neck.
“I just want to be enough for them, I’ve tried so hard-”
“Listen to me,” he pulled back from you, gently holding your hand while wiping away tears with his thumb, all the while staring straight at you, “you are enough, you always have been and you always will be. Other’s approval is. . .,” he didn’t want to speak hypocritically, “it might be a goal, especially when you want for them to love and support you, but it is not necessary for you to succeed. You alone hold the key to that door. And maybe- just maybe they’ll see what they’ve been missing, someday.”
You closed your eyes nodding, leaning into his touch which lingered against your cheek, “I know you’re not saying this only to make me feel better,” you met his eyes, “but because you’re in the same place, and I’m sorry for that, so very sorry.”
“It’s not your burden,” he shook his head, “all we can do is try to find solace and understanding within each other, it helps,” he softly smiled, “knowing you’re not alone in this world. . . and the others.”
You broke into a smile with a soft laugh through sniffles, Loki joined in, peppering kisses across your face as you tried to calm yourself.
“What a pair we make,” you sighed amused, resting your head on his shoulder, hugging him tightly.
“Yes,” he chuckled, kissing your forehead, “but I’m so glad we made it.”

God, do they have to play this song every night?
You tried to tune out the annoying pop song, continuing to grind your hips against the man you were giving a small lap dance. You wondered how long you could grind against his beer belly before he finally requested a private dance. Lucky for you, you felt some cash being slipped between the lace of your turquoise, panty set. You turned around, a mischievous smile on your face, as you reached out to grab his tie.
He was mesmerized by you as you expected, and you imagined that he was dying to see more of your scantily clothed body. A hundred dollars for fifteen minutes in a private room. If you could manage to get a few more private dances tonight, you’d consider yourself successful.
You brought him to one of the back rooms and got to work. You let him run his hands over your bottom but once they started to reach between your legs, you knew what to do, “Ah, ah, ah, you know the rules,” You hid your frustration behind your sultry voice. You climbed on his lap, straddling him, as you reached around to undo your top. Beneath the lacy top were your breast but decorated in shiny gemstones.
A lot of the other girls hated glitter and spending time doing stuff like applying tiny gems but you knew that it was another shiny thing for men to look at. You needed their attention. Besides, you didn’t mind the way it looked either. His eyes were wide and he gripped your bottom as you moved your breast, an inch away from his face.
When the fifteen minutes were over, you quickly collected your top and fastened it back on, “Come and see me soon, baby,” You said something of that nature, all your words blurred together by the end of the night.
You managed to get about four more private dances and as one a.m. approached, you were ready to be anywhere else but here. You headed underneath the neon exit sign, heading for the locker rooms, where it seemed a lot of girls were on their way out. You passed naked, sweaty bodies, and clouds of spray deodorant as you made your way to your locker, already slipping out of your tall heels.
The first thing you pulled out was your money bag and you were careful when you were counting each dollar bill, tucking it away nicely. You felt a tap on your shoulder, turning around to see Wanda, red lollipop in one hand, and a white check in the other. Your eyes widened as soon as you read the number, “I’m missing fifty bucks,” You told her.
She gave you a knowing look, “Late fee, Y/N.”
“I was a minute late! I even called and told him my train was late,” Angrily, you stuffed your money bag into your duffle bag.
“He’s not in a good mood, some suit was talking with him earlier,” Wanda shrugged, sensing she had bigger things to worry about. Like you, she made her money dancing and was trying to get by supporting herself, “I wouldn’t argue with him today.”
“Screw that, fifty dollars is the difference between me making rent. He can’t do this,” You slammed your locker closed and you were about to storm off when Wanda grabbed your arm.
“C’mon, we should go. Clint is gonna walk us to the station and he won’t wait for you.”
“I won’t be long,” You shrugged her off, making your way out of the dressing room, and toward Loki’s office. He controlled every part of the Mischief club, set the prices, chose the dancers, and even had a strict list of clientele. It wasn’t the nicest club you’d worked at but it was the closest thing to a consistent paycheck.
You didn’t bother knocking, knowing that you had a point to make and only a certain amount of time to say it, “Fifty dollars! Are you serious-” You stopped in your tracks, realizing that your boss was not alone. Not only was he not alone, but you were also in deep shit. Steve Rogers sat across from the playboy club owner and, looking at the handsome silver-fox, you thought your heart might explode out of your chest.
He’d found you.
He smiled as soon as he saw you, “Babydoll,” A name you’d usually swoon at, made you cringe inside. There he was, clad in an expensive suit and dark overcoat.
Your eyes met with those of Sam and Bucky who had made themselves comfortable by one of the tall bookcases, waiting for their boss to command them to do something. As Steve’s eyes raked over your body, you realized they’d never seen you like this.
“You know her?” Loki leaned forward, resting his elbows on his desk, an eyebrow raised, “... sir.” He added quickly. You don’t know why you were so surprised by this, knowing that Steve was feared everywhere, and Loki, no matter how evil, wouldn’t be the one to challenge him.
“I saw you perform tonight,” Steve spoke to you and, in his mind, you imagined that you were the only one he was seeing right now, “You looked beautiful.”
You hadn’t realized that you probably looked like you’d just seen a ghost. You tried to let go of some of the tension in your body, “What are you doing here?” You tried to keep your voice from faltering and, considering that you were half-dressed, you tried not to let your insecurities overwhelm you.
“As of a few minutes ago, I am the sole owner of the Mischief Club,” Your heart had stopped its pounding and now it was sinking into your stomach, “If you have any grievances with your employer, you can speak to me-”
“This isn’t your side of the city,” Your lip trembled, anger bubbling within you, “Why … y-you . . . Steve, you can’t do this.”
“Every part of this city is mine, Babydoll,” He sighed, standing up from his chair, reminding you of his large, intimidating frame. Reminding you that you were nothing compared to him. You didn’t move as he crossed the room, moving until he was only standing an inch from you, slowly reaching out his hand until he was touching your cheek, “Chasing you made me realize that I should expand my influence. A club like this is a shit hole now but, in a few months, I’d make it a cash cow.”
“Once you run drugs through the place, you mean,” He tensed up for a moment and you realized you’d struck a chord. His hand was on your throat, his thumb brushing over your cheek, and a piercing gaze burning holes into your skin.
“I wouldn’t worry your pretty little head over it,” For a moment, you closed your eyes, and imagined wrapping your arms around him. He’d become your haven so quickly and you’d almost forgotten how it felt for someone to care so much for you. Love you even when you didn’t want to love yourself. When you opened them again, you realized what he meant by his words.
He wasn’t giving you a choice.
You stepped back, letting his hand fall back to his side, before you crossed your arms, “Things aren’t going back to the way they were.”
Much to your surprise, Steve nodded, “No, I made some mistakes. Letting you go being the biggest one.”
You rolled your eyes, “You’re dangerous, Steve, and I want nothing to do with it.”
“And this is safer, Y/N?” He raised his voice, “Men having their grimy hands all over you . . . I’m taking you home.”
“I can take care of myself!”
“Really?” He smirked condescendingly, and you imagined he was seeing you as a bratty child throwing a tantrum, “He-” He stepped to the side, and pointed a finger at Loki, “-was going to lay you off a week from now. The club went under a long time ago and he was going to take your hard-earned money and run, leaving you with nothing. What would you do then?”
Loki stood up, interrupting, a nervous smile on his face, “Not with nothing. I-I pay all the ladies very well and I would like to continue to do that . . . that’s why I’m so grateful for your generosity, Mr. Rogers-” He cleared his throat awkwardly. He was lying through his teeth.
“You won’t be paying them anymore, Mr. Laufeyson,” Steve spoke calmly, too calmly, and as his hands reached up to his waist belt, you suspected the worse.
“Steve-”
“Hey, hey, hey,” Loki rushed out his words as Steve pointed his favorite silver handgun in his direction, “We had a deal!”
“Steve, don’t!” Panicked, you grabbed a hold of his strong arm. As soon as you saw him, you knew the night wouldn’t end good but death was not something you predicted. Before, he’d never show you the violent side of his world. Now, something had changed, “Steve, please don’t!”
“Come with me,” He spoke sternly, “Come home and I won’t.”
“Okay,” You said immediately, looking up at his unchanging expression. He didn’t move which only panicked you further, “I will! Steve, please don’t.”
“He’s not a good man. He’s been using you this whole time,” Steve said, finally turning to look at you. Your body was shaking, the idea of being so close to the gun was frightening you further, “You’d give yourself up for this scumbag?”
Though it made you more anxious, you moved closer to him, grabbing a hold of his free hand. With your other arm, you hugged his torso, and as he stared down at him, “I-I don’t want you to hurt anyone, Daddy,” You spoke softly, “ . . . please, Daddy?” Something softened in his features as you called him by his favorite nickname. He squeezed your smaller hand and, for a moment, you thought things might be okay.
The sound was deafening when Steve pulled the trigger. Although you couldn’t hear anything, you knew you were screaming, and that you weren’t sure if you ever wanted to open your eyes ever again. He tried to wrap his arms around you and you remembered fighting it, hitting his chest, and screaming even louder. Somewhere along the line, you gave in, he was too strong, letting him wrap his long coat over your scantily clothed figure.
You were breathing heavily and when you decided to open your eyes again, everything was blurry, “Daddy had to . . . I’m sorry . . . Babydoll,” You heard in your ear. You were moving, he was holding you . . . when had he picked you up? When did the car start driving? You wished badly that you’d listened to Wanda.
You remembered holding onto him tighter, crying into his shoulder, “Why?” He heard the pain in your voice, felt the realization that your life would never be the same.
“Because you’re mine,” He rubbed circled into your back, leaving soft kisses on your cheek, “And I needed to remind you of what your Daddy is capable of. Anyone who hurts you, anyone who even lays a hand on you, is going to meet the same fate.”
“I don’t want this,” You hiccuped. Steve didn’t believe you, not with the way you were holding him. “This . . . it’s so scary, S-Steve.”
“I’m sorry I had to scare you, baby,” It reminded him of last year when things were good between you two, and you comfortably moved in and out of little space. He could sense you were dying to go to that safe space and, selfishly, he was hoping the trauma of tonight would push you into that mindset, “Daddy’s going to take better care of you. You’ll live with me now, where you’ll be safe.”
You only closed your eyes, no fight left in you. In the world of Steve Rogers, you didn’t think safety existed.
+
You awoke in a pink cloud. The sheets were so soft, heavenly even, and it almost made you forget your situation. You felt something crawling on top of the sheets and you sat up quickly, almost giving yourself whiplash. Realizing it was a furry, white creature, you relaxed, “Alpine, you scared me,” The cat crawled into your embrace and you pet it gently, wondering where exactly it’s owner was.
As you looked around what you assumed was your new room, you couldn’t help but be a bit impressed. You almost forgot how well Steve knew you. Elegant white furniture, a canopy bed with white fabric falling from the sides, a huge wardrobe, a bookcase, a mountain of stuffed animals - frogs, elephants, dolphins, practically the entire animal kingdom - and the fairy lights were a nice touch.
Maybe you were more than impressed. Astounded, actually.
“Oh my . . . stars,” You climbed out of the queen-sized bed, cat in your arms, and quickly realized that your lingerie was gone and your glitter had been washed away. Did he give you a bath? While you were sleeping? You dressed in a large t-shirt and as you brought the fabric up to your nose, you realized it was his, “Why didn’t you warn me that he was this off his rocker, Alpine?”
The cat only responded with a quiet meow.
You moved over to the window and, expectedly, it didn’t budge when you tried to push it open. You looked out onto the vast landscape, perfectly manicured rolling hills of green, a garden, Olympic sized pool, beautiful white statues, and armed guards to match.
It was like you remembered though Steve didn’t bring you to his “private home” often. The two of you always met in the city and, what started as an interesting sugar arrangement, quickly blossomed into a new dynamic.
You wandered around the room, examining every detail that he had put into it. You imagined the military man had placed a lot of the objects himself, making sure everything was perfect when you saw it.
The room is also gigantic, you could do at least ten cartwheels from one wall to the other. You’d never imagined living somewhere like this, the room itself was bigger than any place you’d ever lived.
As the door creaked open, Alpine leaped from your arms, taking the opportunity to escape. You watched the creature crawl between Steve’s legs before slipping out, probably going to look for Bucky. As your eyes traveled up his figure, you assumed he’d be dressed down in his home but the businessman was clad in another suit.
You were glad not to be crying anymore but seeing him now was reminding you of the horror show that was last night, “My things, I had money in my bag,” Was the first thing you thought to say, “I want it.”
“You don’t need it,” He said what you assumed he would.
“But-” You stopped yourself, “Can you give it to Wanda, please?”
“Please and thank you?” Steve cocked his eyebrow, smirking, “I wasn’t expecting that from you today.”
You didn’t respond, only crossed your arms defiantly, “I want Wanda to have it.”
“Done,” Steve raised his hands in surrender, “Is that all you want? Can I interest you in breakfast, little one?”
He didn’t know how deeply his words cut into you. How you wanted nothing more than to forget your worries and be his little girl. How you’d probably get on your knees and kindly do anything he asked . . . if this was a perfect world. You tried to shake that feeling because this world was anything but perfect.
“I guess,” Your hunger suddenly crossing your mind.
He nodded, a smile threatening to form on his lips, “Do you want help getting ready?” You quickly shook your head and you assumed he knew that it would be your response, “Well, I picked something out for you. I left it in the bathroom.”
“So what, I’m supposed to  . . . wear whatever you want and be your little trophy?”
“And if you sit still and look pretty, Daddy will buy you anything you want,” Your eyes narrowed at him and you looked away, knowing you’d probably burst into flames if you looked at the annoying smirk any longer, “I’ll come to get you in ten minutes.”
You were already walking towards the bathroom, feeling his eyes on you the entire way. The bathroom was even more immaculate than the bedroom, a big chandelier hanging from the tall ceiling, with sleek marble fixtures. You avoided the mirror when the thick makeup came off at the end of the day, so you were shocked seeing your bare face. It made you look . . . innocent. It was the opposite image the club wanted to present.
You found a new toothbrush in one of the drawers and proceeded to brush your teeth, before washing your face.
The dress he’d picked out was frilly and white, a stark but beautiful contrast to your skin. It puffed at the sleeves but grabbed your waist and then flounced out when reaching down to your knees. You did a small twirl, letting the ends of the dress softly caress the tips of your fingers. Realizing you liked it quite a lot made you frown in the mirror.
Most likely, there was no racy lingerie and tassels in that wardrobe. He said you looked beautiful last night but there was no chance he’d let you ever look like that again, especially in front of his men.
When you left the bathroom and realized Steve had not returned, you decided to slip out of the room. You wandered down the big hallway, your bare feet padding against the carpet, as you examined each piece of artwork and decoration. Steve’s taste was expensive but his style was old-fashioned, choosing elegance over flashy things.
You admired it for a second and then remembered the blood spilled, the money stolen, and the dirty things that funded it.
 “I thought I said I’d come and get you.”
You turned around, noticing how his breath caught in his throat as he took you in. He was deadly, he killed a man right in front of you, yet he was like a teenager in love when he saw you.
You mentally cursed.
+
“Are you full?” He asked, looking at your plate of a half-eaten pancake. There was still a feast laid out in front of you which was tempting but you couldn’t help but see it as consuming more of his forbidden fruit.
You only nodded and his lips pressed into a thin line.
He was holding back, you could tell. He wanted to make sure you were fully nourished and he’d probably prefer to feed you himself.
“Eat more,” He added, “Please-”
You stood up abruptly, “I want to look for Alpine,” You made a move to leave the dining room but, as you passed his chair, he grabbed a hold of your wrist. He gripped you stronger as you tried to pull away.
“After you eat more,” He commanded.
“I’m not hungry,” Your eyes didn’t meet his eyes.
“Babydoll, can’t you see I’m trying to play nice?” He tried to hide the venom in his tone, “I could’ve bent you over my knee already for not addressing me properly. Do you want that?”
You shook your head.
“Use your words, please.”
“No.”
“No what?”
“No, I don’t want that . . . Daddy.”
When you made a move to go back to your seat, he grabbed your arm tighter, “Sit with me,” He said but his tone was softer than before. You sat down on his knee and, instinctively, his arm wrapped around your torso, holding you in place, “Relax.”
You turned your head closer to him, the familiar feeling of being in his arms led your muscles to relax. He brought pieces of fruit to your mouth and, as you opened your mouth for him, you heard, “Good girl.”
When he first wanted to do things like this with you, he told you to imagine the things you liked when you were younger. You told him that you never had a lot of toys, never got a lot of praise, and that you were always the one taking care of others, not the other way around. What he made you feel was foreign but it satisfied a need you never knew you had.
“You haven’t been eating enough,” He commented. You shrugged and he frowned a bit, “Three meals a day from now on. And snacks. And lots of water.”
“And what if I don’t, Daddy?” You challenged, more playful than you intended.
Steve gave you a look that was much too loving for you to hold his gaze, “How about, if you do, then I’ll give you a reward . . .” His voice trailed off as he thought for a moment, “What would you like?”
“I wanna go back to the city-”
Steve smirked, “Something realistic, preferably,” It took everything in you not to roll your eyes, “A new outfit? . . . A new toy? . . . I know what you want.”
“No, you don’t,” You pouted.
“Stickers,” He answered, proud when he saw you perk up, “Sparkly, butterfly ones probably.”
“I don’t-”
He interrupted your lie, tickling your side, and you tried not to smile, “You love those little things! You’d probably prefer it over a designer bag or a trip to europe.”
“They’re not expensive and I like collecting them,” You tried to explain, your voice low.
“Then that’ll be it. A week of not skipping meals will get you a special sticker for your chart, we’ll even hang it on the fridge.”
You didn’t mind the idea . . . you could have so many stickers after a long while.
“A week,” You repeated, “How long do you expect for me to stay here?”
“There’s lots to do, you won’t get bored,” He spoke dismissively, probably frustrated by your question. You opened your mouth to respond but was interrupted when the table started shaking, Steve’s phone vibrating on top of it.
“Rogers,” Steve answered, pressing the phone to his ear, “Yes, I’m aware . . you told me that you took care of him . . . I don’t need to tell you how to do your job, you’re just supposed to do it  . . .  he’ll listen if it comes from me . . . i’ll handle it, okay? . . . Babydoll,” He softly patted your knee, “Why don’t you go look for Alpine?”
You took that as your cue that he was about to start cursing and didn’t want you around to hear it.
+
An hour later, you were wandering around the garden and Steve still hadn’t tried to find you. You guessed that he was busy with his work now but you were more focused on finding Alpine. You’d search every inch of the inside of the house and now there was only one place left. You realized that you could also start thinking about a way out of this place.
“Here kitty, kitty,” Your eyebrows raised as you heard an unfamiliar voice. You wandered further along the path, trying to look through the greenery, before stumbling upon an opening with a large fountain in the middle. Alpine was walking around the top of it, frustrating the man trying to get him down from such a tall height.
He was one of Steve’s men, you could tell by the dark clothing, though you didn’t recognize him. He was much younger, and honestly, more attractive than a lot of them. You could tell the light had gone out in a lot of the people that Steve kept around. You could already tell he wasn’t like that, “Come on, dude, now you’re just messing with me!”
The cat seemed to brush him off, continuing to walk along the edge.
“You have to be more gentle than that,” You said, knowing you would startle him. It amused you a little how he seemed to jump out of his skin. His hand held over his heart, you could tell he was a bit taken aback by your appearance. You moved toward the fountain, holding your arms out for it, “C’mere, Alpine, the scary man won’t hurt you.”
His eyes were wide as the cat easily jumped into your arms, “He obviously doesn’t like me,” He said, watching as you brushed Alpine’s ears with your fingers, “And yet Bucky always puts me on cat duty.”
“Maybe Bucky is the one that doesn’t like you,” You responded.
He frowned, “Yeah, maybe you’re right,” You walked towards you, encouraging Alpine to climb into his arms. Alpine seemed to listen, welcoming his touch, “He’s never been this nice to me. Are you some kind of animal whisperer?”
You giggled a bit, “I’m Y/N.”
Peter’s mouth formed an “o” shape like he was connecting the dots in his mind, “I-I’m Peter . . . aren’t you like . . . not supposed to be out here?”
You shrugged, “I don’t know. Am I?” He seemed to panic for a moment, “I mean, I didn’t get the brief that Steve probably gave you all.”
“Right,” He nodded nervously, “Do you . . . should I walk you back to the house?”
“Actually, can you walk me to my room? I don’t think I remember where it was,” You played dumb.
“Yeah, sure,” He agreed.
Perfect. He was perfect. If there was a way out of here, he was it.
+
You didn’t see Steve until later that night. He was right in the fact that you didn’t get bored, there were a million things to do even in your own room. You’d floated away, your mind now completely occupied by the coloring page you were scribbling on.
As Steve sat on the side of your bed, you felt the weight of his day come down with him. Another reason he kept your arrangement before was because you provided stress relief after a long day. He touched your hair, patting your head, and you turned your head to look at him.
“Did you have lunch?” He asked and you nodded sheepishly, “Dinner?” You nodded again.
“Maria made sure I ate.”
He leaned down to press a kiss to the side of your head, “Good girl. Wanna show me what you’re working on?”
You sat up from your position, moving the picture book into his lap, “It’s me and you,” Steve couldn’t help but chuckle as he looked down at the picture of Belle and the Beast.
“You’re funny,” Steve smiled, his eyes getting those little crinkles at the side.
“Did you end up handling your business?” You asked curiously.
“I did, actually,” He responded, failing to elaborate, “And that’s all you need to know.”
You closed your book, tossing it to the side, and standing up on the bed. You walked over to the pillows and plopped down, “Don’t you think it's a little unfair to hide things? I want to hear a story before bed. Or are your stories too scary?”
You were only teasing him but as he turned over, crawling towards you, your heart began to race, “Did I ever tell you the story about the little girl who always ran her mouth?”
You shook your head, and Steve let you stew a moment longer before he pounced. He grabbed your ankle, pulling you down onto you back, as he climbed on top of you, “Well, she was always mad at her Daddy because he was . . . very protective. Her Daddy had to fix this, of course, he couldn’t have such a naughty little girl trying to boss him around. He didn’t punish her though, he just fucked her until she couldn’t speak.”
“I don’t like this one-” You were interrupted when his lips crashed down on yours.
You felt suffocated by him, trapped beneath his love, until you started to move your lips against his. You must’ve been just as crazy as he was for wanting this.
You gasped for air when he finally pulled away. You watched him hurriedly take off his already unbuttoned,  button down, and undo his belt. You were sliding your dress sleeves off, trying to get your panties down your leg. When they were around your ankles, he tore them away, throwing them to the side.
Your lips were on his again, “Steve-” He grabbed your wrist roughly, pinning them above your head with one hand, and he grabbed your face with the other.
“Call me Daddy,” He demanded, sinking between your hips.
“Steve-” You felt a quick sting across your cheek and Steve watched a fire build in your eyes.
“Bad girl,” He sunk his hard member into you, causing your head to tilt back. He was anything but gentle, moving in and out of you with long and hard strokes, “You’re such a bad girl.”
“Tell me you want my cum,” He grunted, breathing hard against your skin, “Tell me.”
“I want your cum,” You rushed out, an orgasm already building as he maintained his pace. You missed this so much. If there was one thing, you missed. He was the first person to ever make you cum without oral sex. Before him, you didn’t even know your body could do this.
“Say it,” He continued, “Say it, little girl.”
He was going to slow down if you didn’t and that was the last thing you wanted, “I want your cum, Daddy,” You gasped out, your body convulsing beneath him, “I want it so bad, Daddy.”
He finished deep inside you, your body tightly wrapping around him, and sweat covering your bodies. You were coming down from the high when the panic set in. Why did you let him do that? And why did you want it?
He was holding you and, as your tears began to fall, he pulled you into him, “It’s okay,” He cooed, “I’ve got ya’. You’re going to be just fine, Babydoll.”

Prince Charming (Loki x Reader)- Part 6
I am apologizing for this part up front. It was heartbreaking to write but sometimes the characters in your head just get what they want! Please forgive me!
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5
Summary: You and Loki deal with the outcome from the ball in your own ways.

It was early the next morning when you woke up, even though it hadn’t been too long since you had finally fallen asleep. You could hear the tablet vibrating in the drawer until the early morning hours. Part of you felt guilt, but what was there to say to him? If you kept up the charade, he would just want to meet in person again. Without a mask, he would surely recognize you this time. The fact that he had spent the entire evening with you dancing, talking, and joking without truly seeing you told you everything you needed to know. It wasn’t really you that he was in love with. Loki was in love with the woman he met online, not his best friend that was practically invisible to him in all the ways that mattered. It had all come back full circle and you were back to moving on all over again.
With a groan, you pushed the blankets back and threw on a hoodie before making your way down to the kitchen for a very strong cup of coffee. Just as you turned the corner, you saw him sitting on a barstool at the island. Based on the messages you heard coming through, he most likely didn’t sleep a wink last night. As you rounded the island towards the coffee pot, his face confirmed your suspicions. Loki’s face was expressionless. He stared off into the distance and didn’t even see you standing there. Just as you opened your mouth to tell him good morning, Natasha and Wanda walked in from their early morning work out. Their faces lit up at the sight of the two of you together and they didn’t give you the chance to stop them before Nat spoke.
“Well, well. Look who we have here! I guess the ball went well then?”
Luckily, Loki never looked up from the cup of coffee in front of him to see you frantically shaking your head at the two of them, causing a couple of confused looks in return. His voice was low and sad.
“I thought it went well, but now I’m not so sure. I can’t get my date to respond now.”
He looked up at you with a curious look.
“I didn’t know you attended the ball, Bug. I never saw you. Did you attend with your Boy Toy?”
Wanda’s eyebrows shot up as she took a sip from the coffee she had just poured before joining Nat at the end of the island. She was a little more subtle compared to Nat who stood with her arms crossed over her chest and looked back and forth between you and the god in front of you with a frustrated and confused expression.
“Oh… umm… he couldn’t make it. I just hung out around here instead. So, tell me more about this date of yours…”
The two women turned their attention towards him and waited for his answer. He looked back down at his coffee cup again before continuing, completely oblivious to the looks he was being given in the moment.
“She was incredible. It was the first time we had met in person but I felt like I had known her forever for some reason. She was funny, sarcastic, adorable yet sexy, and was more than I ever imagined. Apparently she recognized me since she called me by my name at one point, but it didn’t seem to bother her though. Sadly, I never got her name in return. Well, not exactly. She said that I already knew her but I can’t seem to place her. Now, I can’t get her to respond to any of my messages begging her to tell me her identity.”
Natasha rolled her eyes before shaking her head at him. You shot her a look to knock it off before continuing the conversation with him.
“I’m sorry, Mischief. Maybe it will come to you how you know this mystery woman.”
With a look of defeat, he shook his head as he stood and pushed away from the island.
“Perhaps. I truly thought we had a connection, or at least I felt one each time we kissed… I guess time will tell.”
Upon Wanda choking on the sip of coffee she had been drinking, he finally looked up at acknowledge the three of you.
“Sorry. Wrong pipe…”
You looked down at the floor as they watched Loki leave the room and head down the hall. Once he was out of sight, they finally let their thoughts and reactions out. They bantered back and forth about how much of an idiot he was and how blind he was until Nat looked up at you and saw the tears forming in your eyes.
“Babe… are you okay?”
The shake of your head was all it took and they came and hugged you as the crying started all over again.
“He never saw me. We danced. We talked for HOURS. I even dropped hints and everything. How could he not recognize me? The mask did nothing to disguise my voice or my personality. Do I mean that little to him? The longer the night went on, the more I was afraid to tell him. I was too hurt. Part of me thought that maybe by this morning, he would figure it out. Loki messaged me all night but I never even read anything past the first one. It hurt too much.”
Wanda smoothed your hair and brought your face up from Nat’s shoulder to look at her.
“Did Loki say he kissed you?”
You gave her a sad smile as you nodded your head. Pulling away from Natasha, you leaned back against the counter and wiped the tears from your cheeks.
“Twice actually. It was amazing and everything I hoped it would be. Well… except for the whole him not actually kissing ME thing.”
It was her turn to hug you.
“I’m so sorry sweetie. What are you going to do now?”
“I’m not sure exactly. I obviously can’t keep talking to him as Chaos. Do I let him down gently? Do I just not respond? How can I possibly be the supportive best friend and help him get over ME? This whole thing is just a mess now.”
You made your self a bowl of cereal and sat down in the chair he had previously occupied. After a few minutes, Wanda spoke up again.
“Sweetie, no matter what you do at this point, things won’t be the same anymore. Even if he doesn’t know, you do. It’s impossible to go back to the friendship you two had before. Hell, if it was as great as you described, you don’t go back to being just friends after a kiss like that. Loki needs to know it’s you and then just go from there.”
 It had been a few weeks since the ball, yet she had never responded to him. Loki had spent night after night rereading their conversations for any detail he might have missed. For the first few days, he had begged and pleaded and received nothing in return. He had finally let himself believe that she was never real.
Unable to sleep, he quietly made his way down the hall towards the kitchen. He was surprised to see someone else awake at this hour until he heard her softly humming as she poured herself a cup of hot tea.
“Hello, Bug. Can’t sleep either?”
His voice startled you slightly. In the weeks following the ball, the two of you had talked just as rarely as you had in the previous months. Looking back now, you both had been too preoccupied with talking to each other online to talk face to face anymore. It had started to become strange now after so many years of being all each other had.
“Yeah. There’s still some water left in the kettle if you want some tea too.”
Loki nodded and got up from the barstool and made his way around to it once you finished preparing yours. With your mug in hand, you made your way to the other side of the island and watched him. Over the last few weeks, you had tried to build up the courage to tell him. The longer you put it off, the harder it was becoming, especially when you saw how sad he had been. Now would be as best a time as any. No one else was awake at this hour to interrupt you two and it would give you privacy to figure this whole thing out. Wanda had been right. Your relationship had changed now. Taking a deep breath, you tried to ease into the subject.
“Hey… umm… did you ever figure out the whole mystery girl thing?”
You watched his head dip as he braced himself against the counter. Guilt flooded your gut. His voice was low, but he continued preparing his tea instead of looking back at you.
“I’ve given up on that endeavor unfortunately. Looking back on it, it ended up being a meaningless interaction to be quite honest…”
It felt like a knife to the heart. He had given up figuring out who you were? Just like that? You thought it had hurt when he didn’t recognize you, but this pain didn’t even compare. There had been a sliver of hope that if he found out her identity that he love you back. Loki no longer cared about his mystery girl. Maybe he had never actually fallen in love like you thought. Knowing it was you wouldn’t change anything now. For the second time, Loki wasn’t going to return your feelings for him. It’s words from the night you invited him to the ball echoed through your mind. Any feelings you had would be returned ten fold? Hardly.
Remaining his best friend was out of the question now. Part of you thought that if he never knew the truth, that the two of you could go back to normal but you were far from that. The fact that he truly didn’t know it was you standing in front of him tainted the years of friendship. It was still your voice, your words, your movements, your actions. One small mask to hide half of your face and Loki no longer saw you. You loved him with every fiber of your being, and he had never seen you standing there.
You faked a cough to hide the sob that escaped.
“Oh…o-okay… that’s probably for the best then”
He nodded and still didn’t look at you. With his back towards you, he never saw the tears streaming down your face or the still steaming mug abandoned on the kitchen island.

Loki had signed himself up for the mission before the words even left Tony’s mouth. He didn’t care where he was going or what he was doing, just so long as he was away from you. You’d gotten into a fight—a bad one. Somehow, Loki’s way of dealing with it was running away. Whether that was because of pride, pettiness, or cowardice, he wasn’t really sure. Then again, he was avoiding thinking about it as much as possible.
“I have volunteered for a mission,” he told you, the sentence short and clipped as he entered your shared quarters. “I leave at midnight.”
“Oh,” you replied, rolling over on your bed so you were facing your boyfriend. He’d already grabbed his bag and started packing. “That’s nice.”
A small hum of acknowledgement was all he made in the way of a response. He perched on the edge of the bed as he tugged on his boots. Right as he finished with the last buckle and was making ready to stand, your arms suddenly encircled his waist. For a minute, the room was filled with hesitation and quiet breathing, a spell of tension only broken when Loki’s hand alighted on top of yours. Not to say everything was fixed between you two, but the anxious energy in the room calmed a bit.
“Just... Come back safe, ok?” you said, your voice so soft, it just barely registered in his mind.
“Alright,” he whispered back. Your forehead rested in between his shoulder blades, and his thumb involuntarily began rubbing small circles on your skin. “I will.”
How Loki wished for more, for the passionate kisses that you usually shared before a mission. But he knew that wasn’t going to happen now. It might even be wrong considering how mad you were at each other, everything you’d said. Though, if it really was wrong, Loki didn’t think he much would have minded; it still would have felt good. Felt normal. Not like whatever messed up situation you were in right now.
You and the trickster god had been dating for over a year and, as any couple would, had a few squabbles. But nothing like what you’d gone through the other day. Loki shuddered now, just thinking about it. It started out stupid, as these things tend to, but turned into something much more serious. He tried to push it from his mind as you placed a featherlight kiss to the base of his neck. Then you pulled away, hugging your knees to your chest. Now it was Loki’s turn to look at you. His hand hovered above your knee for a second before he lost his nerve and let it fall to the mattress.
“I have to go now,” he said. “Take care of yourself.”
You nodded, and Loki walked to the door, looking back at you one last time. You’d already rolled over so your back was to him again, but he could tell you were crying from the way you were breathing. It made his heart break, but all he could do was whisper a small “I love you” and hope you heard.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Oh. You’re awake,” you said, entering your quarters.
“I am,” Loki replied, staring at the fire crackling in the hearth. There was an open book in his lap, and you couldn’t help but wonder how long ago he’d given up on reading in favor of a contemplative trance, looking at the flames. “And you are home now. Are we all caught up?”
“Ok, it’s past someone’s bedtime,” you answered him, catching on to the ice in his voice. “And no, we’re not all caught up. What’s wrong?”
“You could have invited me.”
You’d gone bowling with roughly half the team, only leaving a note for Loki so he knew where you were. You huffed as you tossed your keys onto the dresser. Leaning back on it, you surveyed his face, set in a harsh manner.
“Sorry,” you shrugged. “You were in the shower, and I knew you wouldn’t want to come, anyway.”
“And what if I did?”
“Then, sorry again. You can come next time.”
“Oh, can I now?”
You pushed off the dresser and walked over to him, rubbing his shoulders a little. He didn’t shake you off, but he didn’t relax at all either. You frowned and walked around to the front of the chair, planting yourself in his lap. His arms instinctively wrapped around you, but his face was still stuck in a scowl.
“What’s this really about?” you asked, resting your head on his shoulder.
“It hardly matters.”
You clenched your jaw a bit. You love Loki, but it’s hard to deal with him when he gets like this.
“If you’re going to brush it off,” you said, forcing a smile, “then don’t act so obviously upset and angry. I’m always here to talk, but if you’re not going to, then don’t pick a fight.”
“It seems to me you are the one picking a fight.”
“Yeah, ok. Whatever,” you snapped, standing up. You waited for him to clench his fists or give some sign he was feeling something, but he was as unreadable as ever. “I’ll just never have fun without you. Sound good?”
“You are blowing this out of proportion, darling,” he drawled. “You can calm down.”
“Oh, can I now?” you answered with a smug smile, the petty parts of you egging you on to parrot back his words from earlier.
He sprung up from his chair and approached you fast as lightning. It startled you, and you gasped, walking until your back was against the wall. Loki menaced over you, placing one hand next to your head. He made sure to leave the other side open so you could get away if you really wanted to. You didn’t, instead staring defiantly into his eyes.
“You should,” he growled. “Just invite me next time and drop this nonsense.”
“Wow,” you scoffed, crossing your arms as he made to spin away from you. “Just because no one’s ever cared to listen to you before doesn’t mean you get to make yourself a martyr.”
Your hands immediately flew to your mouth. Loki had shared everything about his past with you. Really and truly, every painful memory. Every ugly, gritty moment. You knew how much stuff like that damaged him. He spun back around, rage plain on his face, and a deep hurt lurking behind his eyes.
“Loki, I’m so sorry,” you said, rushing toward him. “I didn’t mean-”
He put up a hand to stop both your words and approach. “No. I think you did. It is my fault for believing a mortal of all beings could have any depth of understanding, of feeling. For thinking you could love me. The joke is on me, I suppose, hmm?”
He scoffed and stalked toward the door, refusing to let you see the tears in his eyes. He was yanking on the knob before you could even say his name again. The last thing he saw before slamming the door behind him was you crumpling on the ground in a sobbing mess. As he stomped down the hall, his own tears began to pour.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Loki, are you even trying to sleep?” Bruce asked from across the hotel room.
Tony had taken a room for himself and stuck Bruce and Loki together in an adjoining one. Thankfully, it had two beds, but Loki was still a little pissed. Honestly, he’d considered just skipping the hotel and going on a walk, a long walk. Instead, he was laying with his eyes open and glued to the ceiling, reliving the fight in his mind over and over again.
“Yes, Banner, I am,” the god huffed. “I am just not having any success.”
“Is there... something on your mind?” Bruce hesitantly asked. He and Loki were far from best friends, but he figured it would be considerate to ask.
“Actually, there is,” he sighed.
“Do you, uh, want to... talk about it?”
“Yes,” he sighed. “I suppose you are a doctor, after all.”
“Not that kind but-”
“My beloved and I have gotten into an argument, and now I am on this mission. So, we have not made up. I fear we never will.”
“Oh, come one. I’ve seen you two. How bad could it be?”
Loki sighed and sat up on the bed, recounting the story. He did his best to keep the tears out of his eyes and emotion out of his voice, and was met with far more success on the first front than the second.
“Yikes,” Bruce said when he finished. “I mean, they tried to say they didn’t mean it. And I’m sure you didn’t either. So maybe just try to talk?”
“Perhaps. Or maybe we are not supposed to work it out.”
“That’s crazy. Look at you right now; you can’t stop thinking about them.”
“And do you think they are thinking of me?”
“You know what, yeah. I do.”
Loki just mumbled his thanks and flipped onto his side so he was facing the wall now. Bruce went back to sleep, and Loki prayed that slumber would claim him. It did not, and he spent the whole night wishing for you. That he had never said those awful things. That he had never even been given the opportunity to know you, for if he didn’t, he never would have hurt you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You laid on the floor crying for hours. The notion that Loki would come back and wrap you in a hug and talk about what happened didn’t leave you be for hours. And then, all of a sudden, it did. Then you just felt empty and tired. Somehow, you managed to pick yourself up and drag yourself into bed, still in your clothes from the day. You waited another hour, still believing Loki would come back, if even just to lay beside you in the bed you shared and say nothing. When it became clear he wouldn’t, you submit to the tears still stinging the back of your eyes, and cried yourself to sleep.
Waking up the next morning, you didn’t immediately remember what had happened. You felt the empty space next to you where your boyfriend usually was. You listened for the running water of the shower that you could always hear on the mornings he wasn’t beside you. The silence was deafening.
“Loki?” you called out to the vacant room.
Only the echo of your voice answered you. Suddenly, the memory of the night before came crashing back into your mind. A strangled sob escaped your lips. You desperately looked around, frantically searching, begging, for some sort of sign that he’d returned in the night and had just left before you awakened. There was no indication that such a thing had happened.
Moving on autopilot, you found yourself in the shower. You tried to wash, but mainly just stood there and let the scalding spray run over you. Eventually, the stream turned cold as you used up the last of the warm water. You always enjoyed how plushy the towels in the Tower were, but you hardly noticed it as you dried off. Some water still dripping off you, you pulled on your robe. The mirror revealed that your eyes were still a little puffy from crying. Your pruny fingers touched the reddened skin, but you couldn’t be bothered to do anything to cover it up.
“You’re back,” you gasped, walking back out into the bedroom.
He was sitting in a chair, different from the one last night, this time actually reading the book he had. He looked so composed that it made you embarrassed by your appearance. You were sure he was just as much a mess on the inside as you were, though. At least you hoped he was.
“Mhm,” he replied. “And you are dripping on the carpet.”
You looked down where, surely enough, a small wet spot was gathering from the droplets rolling off your body. Everything was moving at half speed in your mind because of how drained you were, both physically and emotionally.
“Sorry,” you mumbled.
He didn’t even really acknowledge it as he sidestepped around you and into the bathroom. A few seconds later, you heard the shower turn on. Summoning all your strength, you managed to get dressed for the day, encasing yourself in your most comfortable clothes. You looked at the door and considered getting something to eat, but the pull of your warm blankets was too great. The bed, devoid of your lover, reminded you too much of last night, though. You grabbed the blankets off and swaddled yourself in them on the couch. You tried to shut out the world and go back to sleep. It didn’t work.
“Darling?” Loki softly called as the bathroom door opened.
You wanted to reply, you really did, but it felt like too much effort to peel your eyes open and will your voice to work. So, you listened as he padded over to where you were. He sighed and left, leaving your quarters silent once more. You didn’t even have the energy left to cry.
Roughly ten minutes later, you heard the god come back in and set something on the coffee table. The aroma of pancakes, bacon, and tea flooded your senses seconds after, and you felt your heart somehow swell and break at the same moment. Loki’s hand softly touched your cheek and caressed it so gently, it seemed he was afraid you might break.
“Sleep well, my darling,” he whispered.
Loki kissed the top of your head as gently as he had touched your cheek, his damp hair tickling your skin. He stood up and, though you couldn’t see, felt him turn and look at you once more. Then the door closed, and the strength to cry returned to your body.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Please, Steve,” you beseeched. “Just tell me where he is.”
“I’m sorry, you know I can’t.” He truly did look hurt that he had to keep this from you, especially when he noticed the tears welling in your eyes. “It’s top secret.”
You were trying to figure out where Loki was, if he was ok. You should have asked him more about the mission; he would have told you where he was going, rules be damned. But you hadn’t, so he hadn’t, and now he’d been gone for three days with no word on when he’d return. You tried his cell phone, but Steve had at least informed you that they had to turn off anything that could be tracked for the mission.
You felt so awful about what you’d said, the guilt gnawing at your heart every minute of every day, every dream of every night. If he were to die before you could work it out... you just didn’t know what you would do. Even if you never made up, you just needed him to make it back safely. Maybe you didn’t have to work it out, shouldn’t. Maybe you were a toxic poison ruining his life. Refusing to cry in front of Steve, you pushed the thought from your mind.
“But he’s my boyfriend. Doesn’t that count for something more than the rules?” you pleaded, the look of desperation in your eyes only growing.
“Sorry, but it doesn’t. Look, it would be different if you were married. What I can tell you,” he said with a sigh, and a quick glance over his shoulder, “is that he’s alive and safe.”
“Thank you,” you sniffled. “I guess that’s something, at least. When will he be back?”
“Soon, ok?”
“Ok,” you sniffled again.
You trudged over to the couch in the common room, trying to spend time someplace other than your room for the first time since the fight. Besides quick meals, you’d just been moping in your quarters. The thought crossed your mind that you were probably depressed, that you should get up and exercise or move about. Despite the knowledge of that, you couldn’t actually muster up the willpower to act on it. Instead, you flipped on the TV and pulled the blanket hanging over the back of the sofa snugly around your shoulders. The voice of Gordon Ramsey faded into background noise as you stared out the window, foolishly and fruitlessly hoping that you’d see Loki’s ship flying in.
“Monday,” Steve sighed, setting a mug of hot chocolate on a coaster for you.
“What?” you asked, slightly bewildered after abruptly being pulled from your trance.
“Don’t tell anyone I told you, but Loki’s coming back on Monday.” Steve sat beside you and comfortingly pat your back as you expressed your gratitude. “Can I give you some advice, though?”
“Please.”
“Whatever happened between you two, you can work it out. I promise.”
“I just feel so bad, Steve. I said something horrible that I never should have.” You bit your lip before continuing, nervous you were oversharing. The way your companion was sympathetically nodding his head, however, urged you on. “And then he said something awful too. And now he’s gone, and no one will even tell me where to find him. Maybe it’s a sign that we shouldn’t work it out. That we’re not right for each other.”
“Come on, that’s just the fear talking. I know sometimes the team grumbles about you guys, but it’s only because you’re so sweet together.” He waited for some sign of recognition that what he was saying was true to click on your face before continuing. “Take it from me, you don’t want to let an opportunity to pass you by; even more so when it comes to being with someone you love. You have to make the most of every moment. But you also have to be willing to work through your disagreements, even if they’re particularly bad. Heck, especially then.”
“Thanks, Steve.” You managed a smile. It was small, but it was also the first one that had made its way onto your face in nearly a week. Not only did you realize you had great friends surrounding you, but you felt a spark of hope that you could repair things with Loki. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
“Good. Now, want to come for a training session? Take your mind off things for a bit?”
“Thanks, but no thanks. I’m still not really feeling up to it. But soon, I promise,” you added when a flash of worry danced across his face.
He gave a nod and one final friendly pat on the shoulder, then was off. You went back to staring out the window, now gently sipping on your cocoa. It was still a bit too hot, and it burnt your tongue a little. You knew you should wait until it cooled, but the pain kept you tethered to the earth instead of floating away. You also knew what Loki would say to that so, after a few more sips, you set it down to let it become a more drinkable temperature. As you waited, you let your mind be filled with thoughts of Loki, wondering if he was thinking of you too. Soon, your eyes were drooping shut, and you succumbed to dreams of happier times with your beloved.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The rest of the day passed much the same, with you pretending to be asleep. Loki knew you were awake at some point, at least, to eat the food he’d brought. Otherwise, he would have flown into a panic that his little mortal was unwell. Or, more unwell than just in an emotional sense, anyway. There was one point where he saw your eyes crack open and look at him as he sat nearby, switching between reading and thinking. You didn’t say anything, though, so neither did he.
“Brother?” Thor said, knocking at the door. “Are you two in there?”
Loki rushed to the door and, opening it, shushed the God of Thunder. He gently closed the door behind him as not to wake you, thinking you may really be asleep now.
“We are, brother,” he whispered. “Why?”
“The team has not seen either of you all day. Is everything alright? Are either of you ill? Or perhaps you’re just having fun in there?” Thor playfully elbowed his brother in the ribs and suggestively wiggled his eyebrows. “Oh, and why are we whispering?”
“Because my beloved is sleeping.” Loki felt a prick of fear in his heart. Maybe he had lost the privilege of calling you his beloved. “We are ok. Relatively.”
“Relatively?”
“Yes. We... We had a fight,” Loki exhaled. “It was not pretty.”
“But you are going to work it out, right?” Thor sighed when Loki said nothing. “Oh, come on, brother. You must talk to them.”
“I will. At some point.”
With some final words of encouragement, Thor let his brother be. Loki took a deep breath and reentered his room. You were sitting up on the couch, twiddling with your thumbs, eyes cast down. He tentatively sat at the end by your feet. Elbows on his knees, he buried his head in his hands.
“Well,” he said to the floor, “are we going to talk about it?”
He felt you flinch at how angry he sounded, while he mentally kicked himself for the same reason. He peeked out from behind his hands, trying to compose himself so he could speak to you in a calm voice.
“I mean,” you said, “if that’s what you want.”
“Oh, and you do not want it?” he snapped, silently cursing himself again.
“Please,” you scoffed, “don’t do anything for my sake.”
Now you were both angry at yourselves, and completely honestly, the other too. When it became clear neither of you was going to say anything else, Loki stood to leave. He spun back around when he heard you mumble something under your breath.
“I’m sorry, darling,” he said in a too-sweet voice, making the pet name sound more like a threat or a mockery than anything else. “I did not quite get that. Would you like to speak up?”
“Yeah,” you snarled, this time loud enough for him to hear. “I said, ‘so you’re really just gonna walk out again, huh?’”
“Oh, allow me to apologize. I must have been making myself a martyr again, hmm? Was that not what you said last night? Or perhaps that was just me blowing things out of proportion again?” He looked down at you as a panic flooded every inch of your body. Loki wanted to stop, but his floodgates had been opened. “But I thought that no one cared to listen to me. Again, I do believe those are your words, not mine.”
“That’s not- I didn’t- I’m not-” you struggled to form a coherent sentence. “I didn’t mean that!”
“No? But it is what you said. Perhaps it was that ever condemning Freudian slip of the tongue? Or do you think yourself so special, mortal, that you care? For I know no one else ever has; I did not need you to tell me that,” he spat.
“You know what?” you laughed without mirth. “You’re right, this isn’t what I want.”
Loki knew he’d pushed too far. His voice grew immensely softer as he spoke again. Not in a kind way, but in a way that showed he was afraid.
“And what exactly, do you mean by ‘this’?”
“This, what we’re doing now. I don’t know what it is, but if it’s your way of talking about what’s wrong and working it out, it’s not what I want. I guess you should just go, Loki.”
Loki hated himself. No, that wasn’t strong enough. He loathed himself, utterly and completely. He slammed the door behind him, and immediately sank back against it, falling to the floor. Neither of you heard the other’s sobs over your the sound of your own.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Though Monday was only two days after Steve told you it would be the date of Loki’s arrival, it felt like years elapsed in those forty-eight hours. By some miracle that, you thought with a tiny laugh, Loki would have said was thanks to the Norns, you managed to get yourself into a presentable state. Shower? Check. Teeth brushed? Check. Eyes normal and not red from crying? As checked as it could be.
Steve had promised that he’d get Loki to go to your room straight away. You figured if you two were going to have it out again, it should be in private. Though, you were hoping it would go a great deal better than last time. You could only hope that some time and space was all the two of you would need to finally work through this.
Your breath hitched in your throat as the doorknob turned and Loki shuffled in. The door softly clicked shut behind him, and you tried to quell your worry that your conversation would end with him slamming it again. He dropped his bag at his feet, and for a second, the world stopped. You just looked at each other, both too afraid to end the moment of peace.
“I am back,” he gently said, opening his arms to you.
You took a single hesitant step forward before fully launching yourself into his arms. He caught you with surprising grace, and though he seemed unsure of himself, calmly rubbed your back.
“Can we... Can we try again?” you asked, pulling back enough so you could look into his beautiful, blue-green eyes. “The working things out, I mean. Can we try that again?”
“Yes, my darling.” The pet name had returned to something more gentle, holding the usual care and affection it did. “I’d love nothing more.”
Hand in hand, you walked toward the couch. This time you sat with bodies angling towards each other, already starting off on a high note. It made both of you feel the other was much more willing to listen to what you had to say.
“Shall I start?” he asked, cupping your cheek.
“No, I want to go first.” Your hand rested on top of his and you leaned into his touch. “If that’s alright with you?”
“It is. Please, speak your mind, my sweet.”
You took a steadying breath before you began. “Look, I’m so sorry for what I said. I was frustrated, and I lashed out. But that’s no excuse for it. I never in a million years should have said what I did. It was wrong and insensitive. And I do care for you so, so much on so, so many different levels. I’m sorry I ever made you doubt that. I will spend every day of the rest of my life reassuring you that I love you, Loki. I love you.”
“I accept your apology, and I love you, too.” A single tear rolled down his cheek, but you knew it was from happiness. After all, several tears of the same emotion had fallen down your own cheeks. “Now, it is my turn to say I am sorry. I was unreceptive, pushy, snappy, and cruel. I should not have responded in that manner, and I should have been more open to working through the problem. My insecurities got the better of me, but I promise I will try to keep them at bay. Because I have you, darling, and I love you. And I have no doubt that you do feel the same.”
“I forgive you, too, Loki. I’m ready to put this behind us if you are.”
“Absolutely I am,” he replied, smiling—really smiling—for what felt like the first time in a century. “And, if I may be so bold, I do believe we have a week’s worth of kisses to make up for.”
“The math checks out,” you giggled, leaning in. “I certainly wouldn’t be opposed if you wanted to start playing catch up now.”
“It is like you have read my mind.”
You gave him one quick peck on the lips before he pulled you flush against him and kissed you like there was no tomorrow. Maybe it was because he’d been so worried that there wouldn’t be. But, in the end, there was. Because you worked it out. Because you loved each other. Because you were two hearts connected as one in the crazy journey called life. And you’d always find a way to work through your differences. For, deep down, you both knew you were meant to be together, would always find your way back to each other. There was nothing either of you believed more, and you’d never doubt it again.

the proposal-Loki Laufeyson x reader (daisy series-part 7)
Hi people! first of all thanks for the birthday messages🙃 i made myself cry like 20 times while writing this and i'm sorry if it makes you cry too. Happy reading! Thanks for all the feedback<3
my main masterlist is here!
series masterlist is here!
Tumblr media
It was the next day but you were still trying to process what your parents had said. Could they really “forbid” you from seeing Loki? You just wanted to talk to Loki, wanted him to tell you it was all going to be okay. Did he even love you back? Maybe you just wanted to believe he did and your brain convinced you but he didn’t. You really needed to talk to him.
You got up and left the room to go to his. The maids tried to stop you (you guessed it was Frigga’s request) but you said you needed to use the bathroom and kept walking until you were standing in front of his door. You listened to the sound coming from inside, was he crying? You knocked on the door three times and waited a second before knocking two more, the sign you used to have with Loki to say “it’s me.”
“No.”
“Loki, please. Your mother doesn’t know i’m here and... I need to see you.”
“I said no y/n.”
You wiped the tear that escaped your eye. “We don’t have to talk, we don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to but i have to see you Loki. Please.”
The door slowly opened, revealing a Loki sitting on his bed with his eyes closed.
“Do you hate me so much that you can’t even bare to see me?” You didn’t care about the tears anymore.
“I could never hate you y/n, but i would hate myself for what i might do if i see you.”
“Loki i just want you to know that i-”
“Please leave.” He swallowed, probably wanting to say something else but didn’t. “I promise i won’t tell my mother you came here. Please just, go.”
“Loki, i have to do it. I have to say yes to Thor tonight and i am so sorry. I hope you will understand me one day.”
“Goodbye y/n.” You turned back and left the room, crying on your way back and thankfully not seeing anyone you knew.
“My lady, are you okay?” one of the maids in front of the door asked you and you nodded.
“Could you please get something to eat for me?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“y/n, are you in?” you heard Frigga’s voice outside of your room.
“Yes, come in.” She got in the room and closed the door, giving you a sincere smile.
“How are you feeling? Are you okay?” You nodded. “Have you decided on what you’ll do at the dinner?” You nodded again.
“I’m going to say yes.” She gave you a sad smile and hugged you.
“I’m so sorry you’re going through this love. And i’m sorry i couldn’t stop this. I couldn’t keep my promise to you.”
“No, it’s not your fault. Please don’t blame yourself for it. I’m the one saying yes and my parents are the ones forcing me. You’re just being there for me when no one else is doing it.” She smiled and kissed your forehead. She smelled like Loki, you didn’t realise it before but they actually smelled really similar. Loki would always smell like new books and a garden in spring, his scent would bring you comfort.
“Well if you’re going to say yes, you might want to wear something different than that.” Frigga pointed to your current dress, snapping you out of your thoughts.
“Do you think he’ll ever forgive me? Will he ever talk to me again?”
“What?” Frigga wasn’t expecting your question out of nowhere.
“Loki, do you think he’ll forgive me? I’m doing this to see him again but i don’t think he’d do that if i say yes. It’s like the universe doesn’t want us to be together. We won’t be able to live like we wanted to no matter what i do.” She shook her head and held your hand, caressing the back of it with her thumb.
“I think you’re not the person he’s angry with. He will understand, if you tell him your reason.”
“I can’t do that. I- Thor is my best friend and if i become his wife then i won’t betray him. Loki will just remain a friend, i’ll always love him but i can’t act on it while i’m married to Thor.”
“You have the kindest heart in the universe, my sweet child. You don’t deserve any of this. I’m sorry.” She smiled and hugged you again before leaving the room to let you get dressed.
You chose a simple sundress with a jacket in case it got windy and tried to hide that you had been crying a lot earlier with a little make up. Just when you were wearing your shoes you heard a knock.
“Frigga?”
“No, it’s me.” Thor spoke from the other side of the door. You quickly wore the other shoe and opened the door with a smile on your face.
“Thor. Hey. Uh, how are you?”
“I’m okay, thanks. How are you?” He smiled and offered you his arm. You held his forearm and started walking.
“I’m fine.”
“Are you sure? You looked a little angry yesterday, are you mad at me?”
“No, of course not. Why would i be?” You forced another smile on your face. He nodded but you could see he didn’t really believe you. You were still thankful he didn’t ask about it any more though.
“So uh.. Did you think about what our parents told us yesterday?” Oh no, not at all. You definitely didn’t almost felt like you were becoming blind because of how much you cried.
“Yes. And i know what you’re going to ask. No, i won’t scream anything this time.” Hopefully.
“Okay, that’s good.” He smiled and didn’t say anything else until you got to the dining room. As soon as Frigga saw you she came and hugged you before making you and Thor sit a little away from your parents. Loki was there but he was talking to Sif, with a huge smile on his face. At least he was happy.
“I need to use the bathroom before we start.” You smiled and Thor nodded. You got up from your seat and made your way to the bathroom. After closing the door you washed your face, trying to calm yourself down a little bit. You looked up when you heard the door opening.
“Hey.” Sif smiled, she didn’t look like she was angry with you.
“Hi.”
“I talked to the queen today.” You nodded and she sighed. “She told the story to me from your point of view and that made me feel really shitty about the way i acted the other day.” She admitted.
“Okay. So you’re not mad at me anymore?”
“No. No i’m not. y/n i’m so sorry.” She hugged you tightly, nearly choking you.
“Sif.” She let go and smiled.
“I’m sorry, i just missed you. It was awful not talking to you knowing i was the one that acted really stupid.”
“Hey, don’t say that. You were sad and it was in the heat of the moment.”
“So i’m forgiven?” she smiled.
“I was never mad at you. I could never be mad at you.” you smiled too and hugged her again.
“Loki came to me today.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, he was really sad, crying actually. It was probably the first time i saw him do that since we were so little.” You were the reason he cried. You were the reason he was sad when the only thing you wanted to do was to be able to see him again.
“So i’m guessing that means you’re going to say yes to Thor?” she looked at your eyes and you nodded.
“Are you mad at me?”
“No.” She smiled.
“Why not?”
“Because i know why you’re doing it and i know Thor will be happy so that’s enough for me. I would never make a nice wife anyway.” She chuckled and you smiled.
“Thank you. For understanding.”
“Of course, you’re my best friend and i have to be there for you no matter what because you did the same for me for years.” She smiled and held your hand, walking back to the table with you. At least now that you knew Sif was okay with it, you felt a lot better. She sat next to you and squeezed your hand, reassuring she was there for you. You smiled and started eating with the others. It was quiet, the parents said something here and there but no one really talked that much.
You looked at Loki, not expecting him to be already looking at you. He first looked away, trying to hide it but then looked back at you with a serious face. You turned back to your dinner and sighed softly, telling yourself that you were doing this for him and he would understand it. Sooner or later.
When everyone was finished with their dinner, Odin told the maids to get the dishes and the table was clean in seconds. Everyone was looking at each other, waiting for someone to say something. Thor finally cleared his throat, bringing the attention to himself.
“So, as we all know, i’m going to be the new king really soon,” he got up from his chair and kneeled on one knee before you. “and i will need myself a queen. y/n, i have known you my whole life and i knew i wanted to spend all my life with you even when i was just a little boy. You know me better than anyone in all the nine realms, you have always been there for me and i know you always will be.” He pulled out a ring, you knew it was Frigga’s. You looked at her and she just smiled. “No matter what happened i always found my way back to you. You are my best friend, my favorite person in the universe, and the love of my life. So will you please marry me and give me the honour of having you as my wife?” You closed your eyes and let a tear escape your eye. Thor was so in love with you, and you felt so bad for saying yes but you had to. You couldn’t live without Loki.
“Don’t.” You heard Loki’s voice but you knew he was not actually talking out loud. “I’m sorry.” You thought, knowing he was reading your mind and smiled at Thor.
“Yes. I will marry you.” He grinned like a five year old slipped the ring on your finger before getting up and lifting you from your seat.
“I love you so much.” He kissed you deeply, you returned his kiss and when you stopped everyone was smiling. And Loki wasn’t in the room anymore.
Toxic + Toxic = Healthy
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Loki break up. Both of you deal with it uncharacteristically. Loki sleeps with girls that look like you and you mess around with Thor in retaliation. It’s all very healthy stuff here.
You and Loki had had an unceremonious falling out a couple weeks ago and called it quits on the relationship you had built. You had been dating for 6 months but Loki had started an argument about how you didn’t love him, that you lie to him, that you probably sleep with men behind his back. Everything was false, of course, you’d never do that to Loki and it hurt that he even thought that. So, you told him that you need some time to think and Loki having to have the last word said maybe breaking up is the best option. You agreed and while you saw the shock in Loki’s eyes at your agreement you were too pissed to care and left.
What makes it awkward is that you both live in Stark’s tower and still have to interact with each other. What makes it even more awkward is that the rest of the Avengers walk on egg shells every time they’re in the same room as the both of you.
You’re taking it like a champ, you feel. You only cry about it when you go to sleep at night, in the privacy of your own room. Sometimes when you spar with your teammates you might hit a bit harder than necessary. You even manage to speak with Loki civilly. On the outside it would appear that you’re completely fine with the break up, but on the inside and behind closed doors you’re literally falling apart. You’re sure the only person who realizes this is Natasha because that woman sees everything.
You almost lose your composure the first time you see Loki bring a girl back to the tower. It’s only been three weeks and he’s already whoring around. You’re livid, he claims to love you then gets over you in three weeks? Bullshit.
What you fail to realize at first is that the girl he brings to the tower kind of looks like you. It isn’t until you’re in the kitchen eating breakfast that you realize this. She comes in, only wearing one of Loki’s too large t-shirts and enjoys a bowl of cereal with you.
You don’t get mad at the girl, you’re mad of course, but she’s not the problem. She doesn’t know what happened between you and Loki. She has no idea you even dated Loki. So you talk with her like you would any stranger. With a happy smile, a joyful voice, and morbid curiosity about having a new person in the tower.
“It’s really cool to see the tower from the inside. I always look up and imagine what you guys live like.” The girl says with a smile at you.
You smile back, “It’s pretty laid back, honestly. Nothing too exciting happens around here.”
“That’s what it looks like,” The girl laughs a light laugh, “I doubt I’ll ever come back, Loki said it was a one time thing, but I’m happy I got the chance anyways.”
You squint at the girl when she’s not looking at you because she’s eating her cereal and question everything. Loki doesn’t do one night stands. That’s what the god had told you the first time you both fell into bed together. He had explicitly stated. “If I bed you, I mean to have you forever, I do not play games when it comes to courting.”
You hum at the girl and truly look at her. Her hair is cut at about your length and although the color is a tiny bit off it’s still in the same general shade as yours. Her features are vastly different from yours but her body shape is almost exactly like yours too.
At this conclusion you’ve thought of three things. One, Loki is trying to make you jealous. Two, Loki is showing there are many other girls just like you he can use. Three, Loki is still hung up on you and has really bad coping skills.
You bring you mug up coffee to your lips as you ponder over your conclusion and raise your eyes when Natasha walks into the kitchen. She raises her brows at the girl, with a glance to you, who introduces herself as Nat reaches in the fridge and pulls a carton of eggs out.
As Natasha waits for her pan to heat up so she may cook her eggs she questions the girl.
“What is it you do?”
“Oh, I’m an accountant for a small company here in-” The girl stops and looks at you, concerned when you start choking on your coffee, “-are you ok?” She asks, you nod still choking a little but get it under control.
“I used to be an accountant, I started out with a small company based in Colorado then moved here when Stark offered me a better job.” You tell her.
“Oh! I just started my job seeing how I just graduated, but it’s my dream to work for someone as significant as Tony Stark.”
You smile and nod, “I’ll put in a good word for you, see if we can get you a promotion you can’t deny.” You say, glancing at Nat who is smirking devilishly at you. You truly do want the best for this girl but at the same time you’d like to see Loki squirm with his one night stand working in the same tower he resides in.
The next time it happens is two days later. This time you’re in the common area with Bruce, teaching him how to play Minecraft at night when the elevator dings. You both look up and see Loki ravishing some poor girl on the elevator’s wall. They let out small moans and gasps. Then Loki turns and looks out the elevator to see you and Bruce staring at them, game completely forgotten.
You’re sure Bruce is wide eyed and blushing like crazy, you can’t see his face seeing as he’s turned towards the elevator. However, you control your face and look bored with a raised brow at Loki.
“My apologies, I thought I had pressed my floor.” Loki says.
The girl he was just basically eating up giggles and pokes her head around his body to look at you two.
“We’re really sorry!”
They both pull from each other but don’t truly stop touching, they’re just in a presentable position now. Loki pushes his correct floor number and you watch as they disappear in the elevator.
When Bruce looks at you he’s not blushing or wide eyed. He actually looks a bit green in the face.
“You ok?” You ask, confused.
“It’s wrong of him to do that to you. He’s smart, has to have his floor memorized. The only way he’d hit this floor was because he knows you’re here.” Bruce says with a sigh, the green hue in his face receding.
You chuckle, nodding to the controller in Bruces hand so he can continue harvesting his wheat.
“It’s ok, he’s always been really bad when it comes to coping skills.”
Bruce watches the TV as he harvests wheat but gives you a glance with a raised brow.
“The women he’s bringing to the building look like me. Or at least the first one did for sure, I wasn’t really looking at this one. The last one even had the same job I used to have.”
Bruce frowns at the TV then realization dawns on his face. “Now that you mention it, this girl did have the same characteristics as you...”
You hum with a small smile. “Loki is going to be Loki, I’m just trying my best to get over him and move on.”
You watch as Bruce pauses the game and looks at you with an evil grin. You’re a little shocked because you’ve never seen the doctor show any emotions like this. His eyes are far away in thought, but he smirks with malicious intent.
“What if you dated one of us? Not really, but in public you would kiss and hug, hold hands do all the couple stuff in front of Loki?” Bruce asks.
Your face must be shocked because Bruce chuckles.
Breaking from your shock you smirk back at the doctor. “And just who would I date?”
Bruce thinks for a second, “Well Loki....” Then you see a sinister look come over his face. “Thor.”
You gasp and slap Bruce on the shoulder, “That’s evil, Bruce!”
Bruce chuckles and shrugs his shoulders with a now timid look on his face.
“I live with a bunch of people that have perfected getting under each others skin, I’ve picked up on how to do it too.”
“I’ll talk with Thor later. Tell him of your nefarious plan, it’s genius!” You say relishing in the fact that you’ll be able to break Loki’s heart more, the god deserves it you justify.
You talk with Thor and kickoff the plan right away. The next morning, Loki actually comes in and has breakfast with his one night stand across from you at the table as you enjoy staring at the newspaper, waiting on Thor to come in. They’re being sickly cute, feeding each other, giggling, and just overall making you want to throw up. You know Loki is truly nothing like this, he’s just putting on a show for you.
When Thor walks in he gives a big good morning, throwing you a smirk Loki misses because he’s too busy kissing ass to his girl. Thor makes coffee for you and brings it over to you. When he sets it in front of you he says, “Just how you like it!”
Then Thor leans down and takes your lips into his. Thor really puts on a show and brings a hand up to caress at your jaw as he delves into your mouth with his tongue. When he pulls away you’re breathless and look up at him with adoration. Both the gods really know how to use their mouths...and tongues for that matter.
You lick your lips and look at the girl Loki brought home when she makes a remark.
“Looks like we’re not the only ones who got lucky!” She giggles.
You smile at her, glance at Loki who is glaring daggers into you, then look back up to Thor as you raise your coffee mug to him and say, “Thanks, sweetheart.”
Thor smiles down at you and offers to make you breakfast but you decline saying you need to help Tony with something. Before you leave the room Thor pulls you into another kiss, lets you go, and slaps your ass as you walk away. You give a small yelp and giggle. Enjoying every second you feel Loki glaring at you before you leave the kitchen.
You spend a few hours with Tony just talking as he works on his suit. You came down here to hide and be happy at the whole situation that had just happened. Tony laughs uncontrollably when you tell him what’s going on.
“This is either gonna turn into amazing make up sex or a really big argument.” Tony says, wiping a hand over his face, smearing it with oil.
You laugh as you sit on his work table, swinging your legs.
“As long as he hurts just as much as I do, I don’t care which one happens.”
“That’s toxic.” Tony states without malice. “But so is Loki so it kind of cancels each other out, right?” He asks, throwing you a devious look tapping his wrench to his chin as he does.
“Ya, we’ll go with that.” You say, jumping from the table, getting ready to leave the lab.
“Thanks for letting me hide for a bit.” You say.
“Anytime!” Tony says over his shoulder as you leave.
You’re walking down the hallway to your room when Loki materializes out of nowhere and pins your to the wall. His left hand pins your waist to the wall, his right hand is balled in a fist and rests on the wall next to your face. His face is inches from yours, absolutely livid.
“You play with fire without thinking about the consequences, sweetheart.” Loki spits out the nick name you used earlier.
“What? You didn’t expect me to fight back when you started fucking girls three weeks into our break up?” You ask through gritted teeth. “You were supposed to be in love with me Loki, if you were really in love you would have waited a bit longer.”
Loki’s face turns to regret before he gets angry again.
“You could have went for anyone other than my brother, you can’t act like you’re holier than me.”
You scoff and push at Loki who doesn’t budge. “You started it when you brought home girls that look like me. Making me think I was expendable, replaceable.” You say, your voice cracking when you say replaceable. “I may act like I’m fine all the time but my heart is in pieces Loki. You decided to take my heart and step all over it like I meant nothing to you!” You begin crying.
Loki furrows his brows at your tears, like he actually cares that he’s the one who made them fall.
You close your eyes so you don’t have to look at his face anymore. Silently crying there. You feel Loki wipe your tears with his right hand, his left hand keeps you pinned though which is smart because if you could break his grip you’d run from the situation. His right hand stops wiping at your tears when they stop falling and slides his hand down till it’s cusping your neck.
“That was not my intention.” Loki finally says in a soft voice.
You open your eyes and frown at the god. “So it was just you trying to cope in a really bad way...” You say, deflating in his hold but leaning into his hand. You haven’t felt his touch in weeks and your body is practically craving it. You hate that you react like this.
Loki gives a sad smile. “We are a concoction of toxic chemicals. We may not get a happy ending...” Loki whispers, his thumb caressing your jawline where his hand holds your neck, his eyes roaming over your face, “But I wouldn’t have it any other way. You’re worth every second.” Loki finishes, closing his eyes and kissing you.
You lean into the kiss, tasting Loki and losing yourself in his mouth as he dominates your weak fighting with tongue. His left hand comes up to grab your hair and pull at it causing you to gasp into his mouth. He practically swallows the gasp and moans. His right hand squeezes your neck then drifts down over your breast, making sure to flow over your nipple, and then grabs your hip in a bruising grip and pulls your body to arch into his.
When you pull from his kiss you look into his eyes and see nothing but love and lust. Then it changes to a frown and insecurity.
“Did you sleep with him?” Loki whispers, not sure he wants to know the answer.
“No.”
Loki sighs and uses both hands to hug you into his body, burying his face in your neck. When he pulls away to look at you you see the love there again.
“I love you.” He says sweetly.
You smile up at him, “I love you too.”
Fear & Desire❤️‍🔥P51❤️‍🔥 The burdenous gift of hindsight
Previous chapter Next chapter
Approaching the group, everyone had their glasses up as they clapped and cheered for your performance. Loki walked towards you clapping as he handed you a glass of champagne.
“That was marvellous y/n” he beamed.
“Thank you Loki and no alcohol for me, last time I drank alcohol I had a splitting headache the next day” you laughed remembering the night out with Noah.
The whole team exchanged tales and jokes as if you were the only people in the room. Laugher could be heard coming from you all as Thor told stories of Asgard. The gift of hindsight is often disappointing. You think you want to see into the future but what if the future was bleak? What if things didn’t go your way? Would you carry on or just simply give up? Not knowing is what keeps us living in the moment but we never know what moments we’re taking for granted. If you knew that the harsh Angel of death was lurking around you tonight, observing, waiting for the right time to claim it’s bounty, perhaps you would have cherished these moments more.
You thought back to where it all started. This whirlwind of beautiful sadness. This glorious adventure. This clandestine romance with Loki. The fact that you had finally found a place to belong again. A family. You were upset Bucky wasn’t here but you’d eventually find him. You were close. You would find him.
In hindsight, when Clint finished telling his story that you had heard for the hundredth time, maybe you would have clapped and laughed with the rest instead of just rolling your eyes.
If you knew, maybe you would have participated in the dick measuring contest the boys were having trying to pick up Thor’s hammer. You knew you wouldn’t have been able to pick it up but it would have made Thor laugh to see you try.
When Natasha told jokes, you may have laughed harder because you know how much Nat liked to make people laugh even if she wouldn’t admit it.
If you had known, you would have hugged Steve tighter. He felt Bucky’s absence even more than you did, he just needed someone he could lean on.
With hindsight, you might have answered Banners scientific riddle enthusiastically instead of just saying you didn’t know.
You definitely would have dragged Tony on stage with you to do a duet.
But you didn’t. You didn’t know. So you didn’t do any of these things.
The song changed and you turned around to face Loki, you were confused when he was no where to be seen. Suddenly, the lights dimmed. Looking towards the stage, your eyes widened.
Loki looked dapper in his black suit with his emerald scarf, the same colour as your dress. You saw the microphone in his hand and shook your head whilst stifling a laugh.
“Whilst she’s been away, living day to day has been tough. Without her at my side simply being alive has been rough”
Loki was singing one of your favourite songs. You remembered the night you were both listening to music ‘midgardian noise’ as he’d call it and you started playing for the first time by Mac DeMarco. You told him it was one of your favourite songs but he didn’t seem interested, clearly he was more interested then you knew.
“And though she won't be gone forever, there are many times I find it feels that way. It’s not inside me to forget her, just understand how I’ll be feeling on that day”
Everyone was clapping along with the tune whilst Loki walked off the stage still singing. Everyone cleared a path that lead to you and the spotlight followed Loki who winked when he reached you. Grabbing your hand, he twirled you around.
“It’s just like seeing her for the first time again”
You mouthed ‘what are you doing’ to him as you laughed, slightly flustered that all the attention was on you. The night was truly a dream.
It was almost 8pm when the display of Loki’s cellphone lightened up, and immediately his heart dropped to his stomach.
Only recently the god had learned how to use this annoying tool, still refusing to take it with him all the time. But since it was easier for you to just text, he’d put up with it.
And truth be spoken, except for Thor sending him those silly ‘Memes’, there wasn’t really anyone eager to talk to him anway - so he knew it had to be you.
Thousand worries were made up by his mind, of you having realized this wasn’t a good idea and canceling your date. Holding his breath, he dared to unlock the screen and read:
“I’m so excited to see you tonight! 💘”
“Don’t raise your hopes” he thought to himself, now busying his mind with every possible way of him fucking things up - and still, your message made him grin from ear to ear.
“As you should be” Loki answered and put down the phone, just to pick itn back up and sending some random emoji’s so it wouldn’t sound so harsh. “💌💚💐😏“
You on the other hand felt as excited as a teenager on their first date, having occupied yourself for hours through trying on different outfits, as well as getting your hair and make-up just right. This was a special occasion, after all!
“I hope he’ll like me...” you thought as you assessed your silhouette in the mirror, debating wether this dress was too revealing or not. In the end, you decided to wrap a silken scarf around your neck - so he won’t have to see the scar.
A knock on your door made you jump a little. Had it already been this late?!
“Miss Y/N?” Loki patiently waited in front of your flat’s door, just for his whole expression to falter when you opened. “You- uh...look ravishing.”
“T-h-a-n-k y-o-u!” You mimicked, trying to give him your most welcoming smile. Oh, how glad you were that he could at least read lips - but then, the most unexpected thing happened.
“You’re welcome” he signed, a little sloppy and unsure how to precizely use his hands, but still good enough for you to understand.
“When did you-” Loki answered before you were even done signing the whole sentence, and you were completely and utterly baffled at his skill. “Started a week ago. Needs some improvement, but I get the basics.”
Basics?! Since when was the God of Mischief so humble? Especially if he really only self-teached this at such an incredible speed, that was amazing!
Loki’s trademark grin spread over his cheeks, pretty satisfied with himself as he saw how your eyes were shining in excitement. “No big deal. Shall we?”
Much to your further surprise, the god even offered you his arm to cling on, before the two of you made your leave.
You couldn’t help but admire how handsome he appeared in that suit, his locks tamed behind his ears and golden accessory complimenting his look. The whole way to wherever he’d lead you was coated in pleasant silence, with both of you exchanging small smiles and joyful glances.
“There we are!” Loki declared proudly, as if you were not still in the Stark Tower - well, he isn’t allowed to leave, so we’d better make the best of it.
The compound was gigantic, having almost everything one could think about. To be honest, you had expected a restaurant, maybe a movie night or something classy - well, on the other hand you don’t know they do it on Asgard.
But this?!
You’ve never been at this part of the tower before, unaware there were such beautiful places in this rather boring, high-tech environment.
“I come here often” he signed and you nodded approvingly, “It eases the feeling of being imprisoned.”
Yes, one could truly forget that you were still inside of the tower while standing in that great botanical garden at the top floor, ceiling made completely out of glass and revealing the starry night sky.
"B-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l” your mouth formed silently, just as you felt a hand on your hip. Loki embraced you from behind, his lips gracing your ear as he whispered “Just like you.”
“P-Pardon” he cut himself off, his grip loosening much to your frustration. “I didn’t know what came over me.”
Yet you only clasped his hand, signalizing him it was alright. “Well then...let me lead you to the table.”
In midst of this beautiful garden was a festively decorated table for two, with Loki holding one chair out for you to sit down. It seemed like he had thought of everything, making you wonder just how long he had prepared for this evening to go well.
As a prince, he was not really used to cooking, so he had gotten something in advance, together with some fine wines. “Not to compare with Asgardian quality” he joked, insisting you’d only deserve the best, “But it will do.”
Loki Odinson was the perfect gentleman, and every second of this date you became more aware of how unbelievably you had already fallen for him from the very start.
The two of you would exchange tales about your respective homelands, impactful events on your life as well as your dreams and ambitions. Even without a single spoken word, this conversation was deep and so natural, you could’ve kept on forever.
He would be happy to show you some little magic tricks, such as making blossoms float or lights appear everywhere. May you want it or not, the prince showered you in small gifts such as a selection of his most favourite reads he thought you might like, or a bracelet resembling two snakes intertwined with each other.
Oh, how both of you wished time would stop, letting you revel in this evening just a bit longer...
Having forgotten about time completely, you only realized how much time had passed when the sun was already rising at the horizon.
“Oh my” Loki chuckled shyly, almost feeling guilty for you were probably exhausted. “Let me consort you to your rooms, my fair lady.”
Trying his best to ignore all the spiteful looks Tony’s coworkers gave him as they crossed your way in the hallways, the god wished he would’ve just teleported you back.
“I need to thank you, my love.” The nickname escaped his lips quicker than his mind could catch up on. “Umm, I mean, I really enjoyed myself today. Hopefully you did too.”
You bit your lip, trying to play down your nervousness from expecting him to make a move - yet there was no kiss. Not even a hug, or anything to bid you goodbye.
“Sleep well-” Loki blinked heavily as you clutched on his arm, fingernails digging into the fabric of his suit. “What’s wrong, little dove?”
He squinted his eyes together, racking his brain as hard as he could to decipher your ASL, hopefully not misunderstanding something.
“Do you want to come inside?”
"I-I-I...” Hel, that caught him off guard. But you only gave him a sleepy smile, expression as welcoming as always. “That’s considered bad manners, I mean-”
“Not that!” You huffed quite amused at him becoming all flustered. “I thought you may want to sleep here? Just sleep, nothing more.”
“Of cou- I mean, if you insist” he desperately tried to preserve the last piece of dignity left inside of him, trying to downplay just how needy he was for your affection. "If you insist.”
Sheepishly entering your wide, one-room flat, Loki walked close behind you as his glare immediately went to the sofa on your right - yet you confidently shook your head, pointing towards the king-sized bed.
“This is new to me.” You judgingly rose your eyebrow at his statement, knowing the stories about how he and his brothers were heartbreakers back on Awsgard very well. “Not like that, I mean...ah, forget it.”
Much to your displeasure, the prince would rest far away from you, lying stiffly on his back.
Thinking back about your relationship up until now, you didn’t feel like sleeping in the same bed would cross any line:
It all started very subtle and slowly, but not unnoticed by you and the others - how over time, the God of Mischief was craving your touch. Like his hand ‘accidentally’ brushing against yours, just barely noticeable. Or how he almost naturally cuddled under the blanket with you whenever you were sitting on the same sofa.
The more time passed, the more confident Loki became in his approaches, always wary of your reaction - which would be delighted every single time.
Hugs had already become a firm ritual whenever one of you two traumazized messes were in need of affirmation.
Even some innocent kisses anywhere but your lips were a permanent feature or your togetherness by now, and both of you cherished every second of it.
So you’d plainly crawl over to his side of the bed, pressing yourself against his back.
“I tend to experience nightmares...” Loki whispered, only to be answered with your grip around him depending. "Maybe I should leave."
You snug your head hard against his back, inhaling his scent - for some reason, Loki always smelled like freshly cut grass and old books, not that you'd complain though.
The sound of his heartbeat was like music in your ears, and without giving him a response, it would soon calm you into a sweet slumber.
Tonight, Loki's mind would find peace.
“What did you fuck up?”, you heard Loki’s sharp whisper through the earbud, while you frantically searched through papers and papers and some more papers.
“I didn’t fuck up. I have the guy. I have information”, cleared Bucky. “Hey, DON’T MOVE”, he shouted at the kidnapped, cocking his gun. He cleared his throat before talking again. “Good and bad news”.
“Must be Christmas”, you said.
“No, Christmas is when you only have good news”, said Bucky.
“Not in my family. Generally, there was only bad news and food. Food was the good news”.
“I love how professional and focused on the mission you two are. Stark would be so proud”.
“Wait, I’m invested now. Tell me more about your family, y/n”.
“For the Norns, I don’t have much time. The information, Barnes”. You could hear Loki's footsteps resonate. According to plan, he should've been walking through a hall full of burocrats, so he was right; he did not have much time.
“Okay, so, I know who has the stick”.
“Good”.
“He’s dead”.
“Not so good”.
“Not really, no”.
“What do we do now?”.
An alarm on the building had set off and every door locked down, with a man on a speaker announcing the disappearance of an important object followed by an awfully accurate description of the three of you.
“We run, that’s what we do now”.
You didn’t have to say more. Bucky threw himself off the window before it finished closing. You looked around desperately, trying to find a way to free yourself from that office. Two security guards entered the room screaming for you to get on the floor, and instead you made an unstable wall with the desk and chairs, avoiding getting shot and giving you enough time to figure out some sort of weapon to take them down.
The watch was already used, the knives were useless if they had guns, you didn’t have a gun yourself (silly you), and the parachute was apparently not working anymore, so you couldn’t jump off the window like your teammates. Damn.
“By any chance”, you whispered through your microphone “could you tele…”, but Loki gave you no time to finish the sentence and teleported himself to the office, still in the shape of a security guard.
“My dearest friend”, he said to one of the shooters, opening his arms welcomingly, “how’s the family?”.
“What the fuck, Robert?” asked angrily one of the real guards. “How did you…”.
Loki kicked off his gun and touched his head with a halo of green lights, making him fall unconscious to the floor. He looked up and down at the second security guard and formed half a smile.
“And what about your wife? Is she well?”.
“You ain’t Robert, ain’t ya?”.
“Mmh, nah”.
You grabbed the second security guard from behind and made him trip, immobilizing his arms and legs, and held his own gun to his head. Loki watched you amused, and then transformed back into himself.
“Oh, there you are”, you greeted him. “Did Buck say anything about the walking dead?”.
“The… what?”.
“The man with the stick. If he’s dead, who activated the alarm? Someone has to have it”.
“He didn’t say anything else. Can’t you track it down?”.
“If I could, why would we have done all of this for?”.
“Point made”.
“I need to get back to our room, take some things off the checklist before going all in for a new plan”.
“Alri…”, he started saying, but his gaze fell back on the immobilized guard you were holding down. “What are you planning on doing with him? He saw our faces”.
“If you let me live I won’t talk about this at all”, he pleaded, face squished against the floor. “I have kids, please”.
“He’s lying, he has no kids”, he said with a neutral face, and you looked at him trying to tell him to communicate telepathically. Surprisingly, he understood. “What?”.
“I’m not killing him, what do we do?”.
“Just kill him, what’s all the fuss about?”. You looked at him horrorized and he rolled his eyes “alright, just threaten him enough”.
You let him go, still pointing the gun at him, and gestured to the door so he could leave. When he reached for the door knob, you shot twice at the wall, mere inches from his head, and he froze in place.
“Talk and I’ll find you”, you threatened.
“I won't say a word, I promise”.
You looked at Loki and he nodded, letting you know the man was telling the truth. You kept your eyes fixed on him while he ran away, terrified. Must be new, you thought. Loki grabbed your waist.
“What the Hell are you doing?”, you pushed him away.
“Teleporting us, as you asked”.
“You have to grab me to do that?”.
“I don’t have to. It’s so you get stability”.
“Oh. Give me a big bear hug, then. No, better, let’s cuddle” you spat with sarcasm. He sighed annoyed, massaging his temples.
“Fine. I’m not even touching you”.
As he teleported both of you, you felt your whole body tear its own cells apart and dissolve, and then regenerate them. Your head spinned like it never has, and something hit your head; but you weren’t sure if it was the floor, a wall or the roof, for your sense directions were nowhere to be found. You took a few seconds to compose yourself before opening your eyes once everything stopped moving. When you finally managed to realize where your head even was, your eyes met with Loki’s, who was holding back a smirk with his arms crossed.
“Reconsidering that cuddle next time, are you?”.
“That was… hilarious. Such a shame I missed the previous part to give me context, though”, said Bucky from the counter of the hotel room, munching on some chips. “Look, the tiny fridge had these. You were right, they’re actually great”.
“Yeah. Grab whatever, they’re on Stark’s”, you said, still with your head a bit fuzzed. Loki offered his hand to help you get up but you did it yourself. He sighed.
“How do you fit your clothes with that huge ego of yours?”.
“I don’t, I walk around naked”, you answered, opening the nearest laptop and starting to work on the checklist.
That night was like the last one. Dark, silent and with your head full on the work. Bucky was barely snoring, and Loki was sitting on his bed reading a book. Every once in a while you glanced up your work to look at how painfully beautiful he was. You hated every thought about it, of course, but you couldn’t deny his sight grew on you a bit. He was an asshole, of course. A parasite on your head. An inconvenience. A distraction, sometimes. But the warm light of the bed lamp and the shadows it formed on half of his face enhanced his features, almost like a sculpture, a piece of art.
While you thought of that you checked on his expressions, making sure he wasn’t listening to your highly embarrassing thoughts.
After a few hours, Bucky had already woken up and you were still spread on the floor, surrounded by the files and laptops from before. The light conversation had caught half the attention of the God, who was still reading peacefully. He seemed so calm you wondered what kept him up anyways.
“You think he still has it on him?”, asked Bucky, changing his shirt.
“I think it’s a possibility. I’m tracking his body down. Should be in the morgue by now, maybe they haven’t taken off his clothes yet. But if not, the security cameras would have recorded who took it from the body”.
“Groovy”.
"Oh my God, James".
"What?".
"What does groovy even mean?".
"You know... it's like saying cool beans".
"Coo... alright".
After a while, you collected all the data you needed for tomorrow. You were so exhausted your eyes were getting dry and blurry. Loki was still reading in that same place, not even fazed by the amount of hours that had happened. You got up to clean the dishes from the last meal, and he lifted his gaze up from the book.
“Wait”, he stopped you. With a wrist movement, the dishes got as clean as they could get and arranged on the shelf. You chuckled.
“I wish I had that ability”.
“Are you going to sleep now?”.
“A few hours”.
“Sleep here”, he said from his bed. You looked at Bucky’s; he fell asleep back again.
“You haven’t slept yet. I don’t want to occupy your bed”.
“I won’t, don’t worry”, you nodded, kind of worried he might pass out of tiredness in the middle of the mission. Why the hell was he not sleeping? “If it doesn’t bother you, I’d rather finish this book on here too”.
“I think there’s enough space”.
He moved and gave you space for half of the tiny bed, and you laid by his side with your arms crossed and a leg on top of the other. He went back to his book, and even though he was sitting and your sight couldn’t reach the pages, you were sure it was in Old Norse.
“What are you reading?”.
He didn’t answer right away. Doubtfully as in to share it with you or not, he then proceeded.
“Hamlet. It’s a translation in Old Norse from an author I adore. I’d say it’s an even better version than Shakespeare’s”.
You felt yourself about to smile. You tried not to, but you probably did. That was your favourite piece of literature of all times. You wondered how could that have gotten to Asgardian hands, and why would he (certainly a Midgardian hater) want to read Earth’s literature. You were so curious in that version. Was it really that good, that would be better than Shakespeare himself? Sadly, you didn’t even know how to say hello in that language.
“Do you like it so far?”.
“I’m re-reading it. Brings good memories”, he said with a subtle smile he had hoped you wouldn’t notice. But you did. Something in your chest warmed up a bit and you shook it off. No, no. Not feelings. Don’t confuse your physical attraction, don’t feed your touch starved soul. No. You had to repeat to yourself a couple of times. You were just very, very tired.
“Brings good memories to me too. I love this book”. You figured it was alright to open up a little. The situation was relaxed enough. He wasn’t snarky or avoidant. He looked… melancholic. Sad, even. Like a facet of himself he didn’t allow everyone to see.
You connected with that. Maybe you could even relate to him in some way. For years, you had a feeling of something not adding up quite right. A longing for something you couldn’t exactly pin up. Melancholy for a blank space.
But there you were, barely knew him for three days yet felt close enough. Not too much. Just a feeling. Just the traces of something that maybe happened in another life. But in this one, you would get the mission done and leave. So don’t get attached, you ordered yourself.
“It’s a really good version”.
“Wish I could read it but I don’t know Old Norse”, you said slower than you intended. Loki chuckled at your tiredness. Maybe you could push your curiosity a little further. What was the damage? That he could just say ‘piss off’ or something like that? “What good memories does it bring to you?”.
He sighed and muttered almost to himself “I used to read it to my beloved”.
You almost gasped, surprised he actually answered you. You didn’t ask for more. It was already a lot he had just trusted you with. He told you he had a beloved. You didn’t even know he had a lover, but of course he had. He was nearly a thousand years old; why wouldn’t he? Did he lose that lover, in past tense?
Curiosity grew bigger on you, but fear pushed you aback. But the questions floated around in your head as a lullaby. Your head started to weigh a little more on the pillow and everything happened slightly slower. Loki closed the book and left it resting on his lap. He whispered “I feel you have questions”, and you denied it with your head. Your eyelids fell heavier than before.
“I’m mmnmnnhnm”, you managed to sort of say before getting knocked down by sleep. You heard his laughter, but nothing more after that.
