Happy Birthday

Word Count: 2.5K
A/N: This story was completely self-indulgent, but I hope someone out there likes it!

You’ve always been very reluctant to celebrate your birthday.
You haven’t had a birthday party since you were 12. The following year your mom died a couple of days before and neither you nor your family were in the mood to celebrate anything.
It wasn’t by any means unexpected, she had been sick for a few years, but it still hit you hard.
You were the youngest and were far too young when she first got sick to really understand everything going on.
You were 8 and all you really remember is watching your mom get more and more sick until eventually there was nothing more the doctors could do.
Her death hit you hard and you closed yourself off, never talking about it or even crying after the day of her funeral. To this day you’ve still never cried, in front of others or even by yourself.
You started exercising to channel all your energy, refusing to do anything more like the therapy your family suggested.
When you were 15 you discovered SHIELD and decided you wanted to help others, so you signed up for the SHIELD Academy, working your hardest and pushing yourself to your very limit.
You ended up being not only the youngest cadet ever, but the youngest to actually graduate and then the youngest recruit at SHIELD at only 16 years old.
Natasha was very impressed when she heard about you and took a liking to you, convincing Fury to make you part of her team during her missions and teaching you everything she knows.
That’s how you ended up in the Avengers Initiative, not that you felt you didn’t deserve it since you know how hard you worked and everything you gave up to work towards this achievement.
The team themselves were initially skeptical since you were barely 18 during the battle of New York, but they were quickly proven wrong when they saw how well you handled yourself against the Chitauri.
You were devastated when SHIELD fell, but carried on as an Avenger, battling Ultron and then moving to the Compound with the team.
You met the actual Bucky for the first time when you were 22, during the whole Civil War thing with Baron Zemo. Like Natasha, you were on Tony’s team, fighting mostly Pietro, but the conflict eventually ended.
It took Tony some time to get over the whole “Bucky killing his parents while brainwashed” thing, but, as he likes to say, he can’t call himself a genius without admitting that Bucky didn’t have much of a choice.
Thanks to Tony’s help Shuri was able to find a solution to Bucky’s brainwashing faster than she would’ve alone, meaning Bucky didn’t have to go back into cryo and was pretty quickly cleared to join the team, about a year after the airport battle in Leipzig.
You were warmly accepted by everybody and, the more the team grew the more you felt at home with these people.
And now you wish you could burn down the whole compound because, somehow, Tony convinced you to have a birthday party for the first time in 13 years because, in his words, 'you only turn 25 once'.
Good news is you managed to make him limit the guest list to the team and other people close to you like Maria Hill and Fury. Bad news is you’re still gonna be the center of attention, which you hate.
You couldn’t stop Tony from making everyone dress up for the party, and you couldn’t stop the team from getting you gifts even though you insisted all you wanted was everyone together and to have fun with them since for the longest time nobody ever even knew when your birthday was.
What you didn’t realize was that the only person more worried than you about your gifts was Bucky.
Since he joined the team the two of you have gotten close, starting with his first training with the team where he very loudly told Steve about his disbelief that someone as young and small as you could actually be an asset to the team.
You quickly put him in his place by taking him down after less than two minutes of sparring, taking full advantage of his underestimating you because he “didn’t want to hurt a pretty little thing like you.”
Admittedly he was impressed and wasn’t shy about letting you know that, while the rest of the team snickered at his initial shock when you pinned him down.
You became friends after that, not as close as you’d like but friends nonetheless.
If you were honest with yourself you’ve been harboring a little crush on the supersoldier, but he’s never shown any interest so you resigned yourself to just being his friend.
Something that you did come to treasure, though, is your and Bucky’s late night talks.
It started with you walking in on him in the kitchen on a late night where you couldn’t sleep, nothing new to you, but the two of you barely talked other than acknowledging each other.
You took a bottle of water and left.
A couple of days later you ran into him again and you stood there in silence while you made yourself a cup of tea and then left for your room.
A few days later again he was just sitting there and said nothing as you made your tea, except this time you put a cup in front of him and silently took a seat next to him at the counter.
Two nights later when you arrived at the kitchen he was already there with a cup of tea in front of him and one in front of the seat next to him.
You didn’t want to assume it was for you, but you took a chance when you noticed it was the cup you always used, a blue mug with Stitch on it that says “Let’s get weird”. Your favorite in fact.
You hesitantly sat down next to him and, without you having to ask or without even looking at you, he told you that the nights you stay up late because you can’t sleep you tend to be more quiet during the team dinners and while you hang out afterwards.
You didn’t say anything in return and just sat there, trying not to overthink how much he seemed to watch you.
But the more nights you spent like that, the more you two talked and you gathered quickly that Bucky is a very observant person, nothing more.
You loved the time you spent together after dark where you’d talk about everything and anything, but come morning it was almost as if it never happened, which you came to accept.
It weirdly made the nights you spent talking even more special, which was almost every night.
But back to the present, you’re currently getting ready with Natasha and Wanda, who know much more than you about hair and makeup and are always happy to help you out with getting ready for Stark parties.
You put on the black cocktail dress with rhinestones all over the corset and a slit down the left side, then the three of you make your way to the party room and you take a deep breath before entering.
Everyone is already there, all dressed up in fancy clothes as they all shout “Happy Birthday”.
You laugh and say hi to everybody while they all take turns hugging you, there’s not too many people but everyone important to you is there.
Even Laura and Clint’s kids are there, which you consider a second family at this point, since Laura always did treat you like a daughter.
You hate to admit that it's a nice party.
Knowing you, everyone makes an effort to not put you too much at the center of attention and you just go around talking to your friends like every other party.
Eventually time comes for the cake and, the moment you kind of dreaded, opening the gifts.
Since it's the first birthday you allowed the team to celebrate everyone decided to go all in for your gifts, which you picked up on from the very first gift you open.
Pietro got you a first edition of “The Picture Of Dorian Gray” which is your all time favorite book, Wanda and Maria got you a leather jacket and an amazing pair of boots that you knew were expensive because you were all out shopping together when you came across them.
Steve got you a gold heart-shaped locker with a picture of the team inside it, Natasha got you a charm bracelet with a little charm to represent everyone on the team, and Sam got you a cute necklace with your birth stone on it.
When you open Fury’s gift you start laughing since it's a gun, a SIG SAUER P226 to be precise, which is very Fury.
“It was my first gun when I joined SHIELD.” He says with a smile and you smile back, knowing how much thought he put into this gift.
You open Clint’s gift next, a bow and arrow that he already taught you how to use, and Laura got you a pair of diamond earrings.
Your heart melts when you open Lila, Cooper and Nathaniel’s gifts, respectively a friendship bracelet, an Avengers action figure of yourself and a Stitch plushie.
The three of them hug you tightly as you say thank you and now you only have two gifts left, Tony’s and Bucky’s, and they’re both little boxes.
You open Tony’s next, thinking it’s some fancy necklace or earring but you frown when you see a car key.
“Is this the key to your car?” you ask Tony, knowing full well you’re holding the key to an Audi R8 Spyder, the car Tony’s let you borrow so many times you’re now wondering if he’s gifting you his spare set of keys.
“No.” He says casually “It’s the key to your car.”
You’re even more confused and simply stare at him with your mouth gaped, not really processing the information.
“Y-you… You got me a car?!” You almost yell out of shock and everyone else starts laughing at your antics when you start basically jumping up and down and hugging Tony, squealing like a little girl.
“Well, come on, let’s go see it!” Tony says enthusiastically after you’ve calmed down, and you get up, just as enthusiastic, but are stopped by Steve’s voice.
“Wait, wait. You have one gift left.” He says, picking up the small box and giving it to you. “It’s from Bucky.”
You were so pumped up by the car, you almost forgot about it and completely miss the mischievous look Steve gives Bucky and the murderous glare Bucky gives back.
You also miss Bucky starting to protest before you open his gift, but he instantly shuts up when he sees your face falling the second you open it.
It’s a small necklace with a blue rose in it, it really looks like something you’d give a little girl more than a 25 year old woman.
You look at it for a minute, running your finger on it before you raise your head and look at Bucky.
The whole room goes silent as they all watch you worriedly, everyone noticing immediately that tears are streaming down your face.
Nobody understands what’s happening and nobody knows how to react or what to do, it’s like they’re all frozen by the sight of you being vulnerable for the first time ever.
Meanwhile Bucky’s heart is beating so loud he’s sure everyone around him can hear it, and he feels himself starting to panic at the thought of having ruined your birthday with that stupid gift.
Everybody else got you expensive gifts and all he did was get you a small, cheap necklace that reminded him of a story you briefly talked about once on one of your late night talks about a necklace you had as a kid.
He saw it at the mall while looking for a gift for you, remembering the sweet smile you had on your face when you mentioned it and the fleeting sad look he thought he saw when you told him you lost it when you were 12.
He was really proud of himself for that gift, but the more he saw the other gifts you got the more he regretted his choice, especially after Tony gave you a fucking car.
And now you were crying, not saying anything while just looking at him.
He doesn’t know what to expect from you at the moment, nobody does, he thinks you might yell, throw his gift back at him, tell him how much you hate it and him.
But you surprise everyone by throwing your arms around Bucky’s neck, hugging him tightly while crying into his shoulder.
You honestly forgot telling Bucky about that story and certainly didn’t expect him to remember it, especially since you always got the feeling that he didn’t care about your talks as much as you.
You just assumed that come morning he deleted everything you told him to make room for more important things, and you didn’t blame him.
But he didn’t.
What you didn’t tell him about the necklace is that your mom gave it to you because blue roses were her favorite, you had that necklace since you were born but you somehow lost it the day of her funeral.
That day you lost the two most important things in your life and cried yourself to sleep, and that was the last time you allowed yourself to be weak and cry.
Until today.
Bucky hesitantly wraps his arms around you, rubbing your back hoping to get you to calm down. He looks around at the rest of the team, panicking a little and not knowing what to do.
Everyone else is as clueless as he is, never having seen you in such a state before.
Bucky starts apologizing, his heart breaking at the sight of you crying, and he feels horrible that it’s because of him.
You shake your head quickly and pull away a little to look at him, wanting to reassure him you’re not sad or angry but incredibly happy, but words refuse to come. You take a deep breath to calm yourself and finally manage to speak.
“Thank you. You have no idea how much this means to me.” It’s quiet, but it’s something, and it’s enough to make Bucky let out a breath of relief at knowing you don’t hate him or his gift.
He brings you back in for another tight hug, almost forgetting about everyone else in the room as you hug him back without hesitation.
You’re honestly not even embarrassed at crying, all you care about at the moment is Bucky, his arms around you while he lets you bury your face in his neck, like you’ve been wanting to do for years now.
“Happy birthday, doll.” He whispers in your ear and, for the first time in 13 years, you really feel like it is.

@cquity: “we could be friends. would that be so terrible?” ( lila & bucky)
bucky was being incredibly dismissive. he knew that. he wasn’t the best at social situations, especially in the making friends department. and was completely caught off guard with someone being as forward as she was. but still he felt bad for how he’d come across. “no, no it wouldn’t be terrible.” he said to her then cleared his throat. preparing himself for his next sentence, unsure of how she’d respond. “we can be friends, yes.”

“Papa, Halloween tonight?” Finley asked as you sipped your coffee and pushed the cart.
“A few more days bub.” You say lifting up a decoration.
“Mom, can we be Barbie?” Beth asked Quinn as they looked through the costumes.
“No mommy! No Barbie!” Fin huffed. “I wanna be Ariel!”
“I’m surprised she didn’t say Bluey.” You muttered lowly for your wife to hear before turning towards your toddler. “It’s okay, squirt. Quinn, you be Barbie with Beth and I’ll be Prince Eric.” You gesture to the costume.
“But then who will be Ken?” Beth huffed.
“I’ll be Prince Eric and Prince Ken.” You shrug. “Two birds, one stone.”
“No! We need beach Ken! Moooooom!” Beth whined.
“Well then take a page out of Barbie’s book. Ken is just there; she doesn’t need him to help define her.” You say to your oldest.
“Nice.” Quinn nodded with a grin.
“Fine.” Beth sighed.
“Yayyyy! Ariel!!!!!” Fin shouted in joy.
“Sorry.” Quinn chuckled at a couple looking over with a smile.
“Your girls are so adorable.” The woman smiled before rolling off.
“Can uncle Kurt make ours?” Beth gasped.
“Here, give him a call to see what he says.” You chuckled, handing the phone over. Truthfully you know he’s busy he’s been working on the spring collection to be ahead of the game.
“Hi uncle Kurt!” Beth smiled as she twirled around. “I’m good; you?” She giggled looking over at you and Quinn. “I was wondering if you could make our costumes for Halloween?……Mom and I are going as Barbie and pop and Fin are Prince Eric and Ariel.”
“Really?! Oh Uncle Kurt I’m so excited! Okay! See you then bye love you!” Beth hung up, handing you the phone. “Oh my gosh uncle Kurt and Blaine are gonna help me and Fin make ours tonight they said you just have to get us there.”
“You got it.” You grinned.
“I’ll drop them off before we get ready for tonight.” Quinn nodded. “Would have been a little better if we took them tomorrow night instead. Since the musical is tomorrow night.”
“Awww aunt Rachel’s having an opening night.” Beth sighed.
“You can catch it next time.” Quinn smiled.
“Yuck musicals!” Fin stuck her tongue out.
“She got that from you.” Quinn glared at you.
“I didn’t say anything, and besides Beth we’re going to the fair tomorrow.” You chuckled as Quinn glared at you walking towards the halloween bags. You high fived Fin before handing her a puppuccino. You chuckled seeing whip cream all over her tiny face. “Tasty!” She giggled looking up at you. Beth giggled at her sister's mess. You snapped a picture before wiping her face.
“We’re really going to the fair?” Beth asked.
“Yup! Nat, Nate, and Lila are coming with us.”
“Oh awesome! I can’t wait!” Beth squealed before listing off all the rides she wants to try out now, finally being older and tall enough.

After dropping off the girls the two of you dressed up in your costumes and walked towards Thor’s house.
“Danny, Sandy, welcome!” Thor chuckled letting you and Quinn inside.
“Zeus huh? Here I thought you’d be Thor the Norse God.” You grinned.
“I thought it was a bit on the nose.” Thor nodded before leading you both to the party.
Tony and Pepper were mobsters who were talking to Steve and Bucky as Maverick and Goose. When you caught sight of a certain redhead.
You gulped looking at Natasha who donned a catsuit that was clad against her curvy body.
“Out to fight crime?” You rasped.
“Too many greasers on this street.” She winked.
You chuckled letting your hand run through your hair. “I feel a little ridiculous. I wanted to be a firefighter.” You shrugged.
“Don’t it’s…” Natasha gulped. “It’s working.” You looked so unbelievably dreamy to her she didn’t think that was possible. She already finds you charming and now with the clad white t shirt and leather jacket. Not to mention your ass looks great in those black jeans, and if she looks a little longer she can make out your package.
“I still think the firefighter would have been cooler.” You shrugged.
“Oh my gosh enough about the firefighter!” Quinn rolled her eyes as she walked up.
Natasha chuckled as Bruce walked up.
“Hey Bruce.” You grinned. “Nice Batman costume.”
“Thanks! You know it’s basically the one from the movies you can punch it and I won’t feel a thing. Come on, try it.”
“I shouldn’t.” God, I wanna punch you in the face. You shook your head.
“Come on grease lightning show me whatchu got.” He taunted.
“Bruce.” Natasha warned him.
“What? How bad can it-“ suddenly he felt you strike him in the stomach and lost his breath. “Oh my God.” He gasped.
“Great form Y/L/N!” Steve clapped.
“Y/N!” Quinn growled, yanking you away.
“What? He told me too!” You huffed.
“This is supposed to be the real thing! What happened?” Bruce gasped.
“You asked someone who boxes to punch you. What did you think was going to happen?” Natasha rolled her eyes leaving Bruce to grab a drink.
“Wait, boxes?” His eyes widened.
Bucky rolled his eyes at Quinn who glared at Steve. “Okay you need to tell Y/N what you saw.”
“I know.” Steve sighed.
“Why haven’t you said anything?” Bucky hissed.
“Because I wanted to deal with our situation first. I’m glad I did. I want Y/N to believe me.” Steve explained.
“Well you need to let them know soon they deserve to know.”
“I know Buck.” Steve sighed.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
“Y/N!” You turned looking for who called out your name.
“Pssst Y/N!”
You huffed feeling a candy corn hit your head. Looking over at the culprit it was none other than Thor himself.
He didn’t speak but he did gesture to having a smoke or in other words ‘cheifin’, ‘sesh’, or ‘420’.
You looked back at your wife. “Go on, I'm gonna catch up with Christine Strange.”
You grinned as he waved you over away from the party towards the backyard.
“What’s up Danny Zuko!” Val smirked, already sitting on a patio chair.
“What’s up.” You chuckled as she waved around a blunt. “Ooooh yes please.”
Carol laughed sitting next to her wife.
“What’s up Quill, Gamora!” You grinned giving them a side hug. “What are you guys?”
“Oh I’m Jason!” Peter quickly placed his mask on.
“Freddy Krueger.” She said, lifting up her knife hand.
“Spooky.” You chuckled. “And you two?” You nod towards Carol and Val.
“I’m the moth, she's the flame.” Carol smirked, leaning over to peck Val’s cheek.
“Hey Y/N! I got us all drinks that blend well with the blunt.” Korg grinned while walking outside.
“Hey Korg, long time no see! I haven’t seen you at the gym lately.” You smiled while taking the Halloween themed drink.
“I just got married actually.” He smiled.
“Congratulations man!” You smiled.
“Thanks!” Korg blushed.
“So where is the lucky lady?”
“She’s at work right now but she helped me make the couples game tonight!”
“Couples game?” You asked as the rotation made its way to you. You took it gladly before inhaling.
“Yeah! It’s like a game show for couples.” Korg nodded as you handed it to him.
“Cool.” You said before exhaling.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
Natasha looked around wondering where you went off too. She hasn’t you since you punched Bruce. All she sees is Quinn talking to Christine as Stephen looks bored.
“Looking for a certain greaser?”
Natasha looked over at Wanda. “Maybe.”
“I think I saw Y/N go out back.” Vis pointed.
“Thanks… great costumes by the way. What superhero are you guys supposed to be?”
“Whatever we had to make.” Vision shrugged.
“Gotcha.” Nat nodded before going out back.
“Damn it, Vis.” Wanda whined.
“What?”
“You told her where Y/N is.”
“And?”
“Y/N is married and she-“ Wanda looked around before harshly whispering. “She has feelings for Y/N.”
Vis sighed. “Honey if she does you can’t stop it. No one can. The heart will always want what it wants.”
“Still.” Wanda grumbled. “I just don’t want her to get hurt.”
Meanwhile back outside.
“Nat hi!” You smiled with a dopey grin on your face.
“Hey Stoney Bologna.” She smiled walking over.
“Hey Nat.” Everyone coughed.
She looked around for a seat.
“Here take mine.” You cleared your throat standing up.
“Oh no you don’t have to do that.” She says, shaking her head.
“Please I-“
“Just sit on Danny’s lap!” Carol smirked.
“You’re so bad.” Val muttered in her ear watching you bring Natasha on your lap.
“Oh baby I can be really bad.” Carol husked back.
“Fuck.” Val chuckled darkly, feeling her cock harden.
“Hi.” Nat shuttered.
“Hey. Are you cold?”
“A bit.”
You quickly shrugged your jacket off bringing it around her and you like a blanket. She felt your arms snake around her and laid her arms over yours.
“Thank you.” She said softly.
“Anytime.” You grinned. “Wanna try my drink? Korg made it. It’s really good.”
“Sure.” The redhead moved towards the table causing you to gulp seeing her back side as she stretched for the drink
Val smirked at you checking Natasha out. “How ya doing over there Y/L/N?”
“Good.” You grunted as the redheaded Russian moved again this time bringing the drink with her.
Val and Carol giggled as the blunt came to you both.
“Let’s play suck and blow.” Val smirked.
“What’s that?” Nat asked.
“Well you inhale and exhale in Y/N's mouth then Y/N will do it in Carols.” Val smirked.
“Nat, you don’t have too.” You say before making a face at Val.
“I can do it.” The red head inhaled before turning towards you.
You leaned in parting your lips as she blew smoke into your mouth, her lips ghosting over yours. You inhaled her eyes looking at your lips. You broke the trance turning towards Carol. Exhaling in the same manner. She doesn’t know why but seeing you so close to Carol sort of made her jealous.
You pulled back, noticing a change in the atmosphere.
“You okay?” You whispered near her ear. “Do you need water or anything?”
She shook her head.
One of your arms dropped from her waist resting on her knee. You gave her a light squeeze.
“You sure?”
She smiled softly before relaxing in your arms. “I think I’m just high.”
You chuckled about to move your hand when she placed hers over yours. She squeezed your hand feeling your thumb gently rubbing against her knee.
“So I’m not dumb they’re clearly into one another.” Korg whispered to Thor watching Nat giggle at whatever you said.
“Hmhm.” He nodded, texting his wife to make sure Quinn didn't come outside.
It’s not that they want them to cheat, they just want them to realize they can do so much better. It all started back when Tony had his block party. Slowly the gang all realized Quinn and Bruce were awful and did not deserve you or Natasha.
“Can you imagine them fucking? My God the steam that would come off of them.” Carol smirked looking at you and Nat.
“Fuck that’s hot stop making me hard.” Val muttered while taking a drink.
“Wanna go take care of it?” Carol smirked.
“Uh we’ll meet you guys inside.” Val spoke abruptly standing up with Carol.
“They're gonna do it in the restroom.” You chuckled.
“How do you know?” Nat chuckled.
“I just know.”
“Alright guys we’re going inside so we can get ready for the game.” Korg smiled before walking back inside.
“I guess we should go too?”
Natasha stood giving you a perfect view of her plump latex covered ass in your face. She turned smirking down at you, clearly catching you checking her out.
“Thanks for keeping me warm.”
“Anytime.” You grinned standing up taking your jacket back shrugging it on. Watching her walk towards the sliding door giving her ass an extra sway. She looked so sexy in that suit now all you could think about was taking it off of her. You were incredibly blue balled and needed release as soon as possible.
You both walk back inside and she gets pulled away by Wanda so you walk over to your wife holding her from behind to show her how hard you are.
“Oh my gosh.” She says turning in your arms.
“Quickie in the bathroom?”
She blushes and nods before turning to Christine. “Excuse us.”
As soon as the door closes you kiss your wife before twirling her against the sink. You unbutton her skin tight pants, pulling them down just a bit before pulling your jeans down. You rub your throbbing member against her slit. It's been a while since you both have done this.
You gather enough wetness before pushing inside of her. You moan hands on her hips as she grips the sink and the wall.
“Fuck!” You grunt, thrusting harder and harder.
She lets go of the sink reaching down below to rub her clit. “Fuck I’m close.”
“Let go.” You grunt wrapping your arms around her as she moves back against you cuming around your cock. “That’s it. Fuck I’m gonna cum too.” You close your eyes imagining Natasha with her catsuit. A few short hard thrusts and you finally came and you came hard.
You pant trying to catch your breath feeling yourself deflate. Quinn pushes you back a bit as you slip out. She turned to sit on the toilet as you stuff yourself back in your jeans leaning your back against the wall as you catch your breath.
Quinn watched you through the mirror as she washed her hands. She briefly wonders why you were so hard and practically begged her silently for sex. She saw what Natasha was wearing but she didn't push it. Things have been tense like walking on thin ice that’s already cracking under her feet. She can feel her grasp on you is loosening. She's terrified of losing you completely.
“Ready?” You asked.
She turned and kissed you softly. “I am now.”
You cleared your throat as she fixed your hair and opened the door.
Natasha felt a little sad watching you walk in hand with your wife. She knows you two must have done the deed in the restroom. Vis mentioned hearing two people going at it earlier. She reminds herself that you’re married, and as much as she doesn’t like Quinn. It doesn’t change anything.
“Okay everyone my good friend Korg here is leading the couples game! Everyone take a seat please!” Thor gave a dopey smile, his arm around his wife Jane. He was a little tipsy and a bit high.
“Alllllllright welcome to Love on Avenger Lane! Where I, your host, will be quizzing you on how well you know your partner.” Korg beamed as his friend Meek handed out whiteboards, markers, and erasers.
“We’ll start off with an easy one! First question: what is your boo’s favorite color?”
“Alright let’s have it!” Krog grinned as everyone turned their boards.
“What? I hate that color.” Bucky huffed when Steve looked at his board.
“We got our first wrong answer already!”
“But I thought you liked black.” Steve frowned.
“Ohh Steve said black, Bucky your favorite is?”
“Red.” He said..
“But you always wear black!” Steve threw his hands up.
“Black isn’t a color Steve!”
“And Buck Steve’s favorite is?” Korg moved along.
“Blue.” He muttered.
Steve felt guilty as that was his favorite color.
“Ohhh Bucky got it right. Tony? Pepper?”
The older couple smiled as they revealed their correct answers.
“We win.” Tony high-fived his wife.
“Psh we haven’t even gone yet.” Thor huffed.
“Alright let’s see it then?” Korg grinned.
Jane and Thor showed their boards both revealing Blue.
“Nice!” They grinned.
“Y/N? Quinn?”
You and Quinn revealed your answers.
“Nice.” You grinned pecking your wife’s cheek.
“Nat, Bruce?”
Natasha sighed holding up her answer knowing he was going to get it wrong, but to her surprise he was correct.
“You got it.” She smiled softly.
“Like your eyes.” He shrugged.
You cleared your throat not meaning to ruin the moment, but subconsciously doing it out of jealousy. You don’t know why but Bruce was like nails on a chalkboard for you. You haven’t felt this way about a person since Rachel Berry.
“What is their favorite song?” Korg grinned.
Bruce cringed, holding up his answer.
“Anything from Sia.” Yeah no that doesn’t fly it’s not who is their favorite artist it’s what is their favorite song. Natasha?”
“I fold.” She chuckled with a shrug.
“I’m not big on music.” Bruce shrugged.
“Easy, it's American Pie.” you grinned.
Natasha smiled, you remembered the story about her family and that song. You didn’t even notice the look of disdain your wife was making.
“Uhhh right okay Y/N? Quinn?” Korg stuttered.
Quinn grinned writing hers but when you held your boards up your smile fell.
“What? It's always been ‘Signs by bloc party” Quinn furrowed her brow.
“It's Golden Brown by The Stranglers.” Natasha looks up not realizing she spoke out loud.
“Oof this is awkward.” Korg chuckled into the mic, noticing the look on Quinn’s face. “Tony? Pepper?”
“Shoot to Thrill and Cruisin’ Correct again!
You zoned out as the others went on until the next question came up.
“Alright, what is your partner's favorite morning drink?”
You once again got Quinn’s right and she once again answered wrong.
“But you always start your morning with a protein smoothie.” she huffed.
“A cup of coffee with Silk creamer, especially the coconut.” Natasha winked at you.
Quinn was fuming how can she get your favorite drink but not her own husbands?
“Nat and Bruce?” Korg moved along.
“Coffee black.” they both answered.
Korga mimicked a buzzer sound.
“Breakfast tea.” Bruce smiled.
“Hot mocha with a sprinkle of cinnamon.” You muttered as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Quinn furrows her brows at you. She didn’t like that you knew so much about the redhead. She wanted you to be focused solely on her.
“So it’s clear the two of you should be together.” Korg joked not realizing both parties were wildly uncomfortable. “Should not have said that…Moving on! Favorite movie!”
The couples began writing out their answers. Each couple was getting them right until once again Natasha and Bruce were up. They both answered wrong.
“It’s James Bond’s Moonraker.” You grinned.
Quinn bristled, writing hers down.
“Okay; Y/N? Quinn?”
“Star Wars episode 6.” Quinn smiled in triumph; she knows this has to be it. She’s certain as she held up her board.
“It’s The Heat.” Natasha chuckled.
“I think I know my-“
“She’s right.” You mutter before holding yours up.
“Funny Girl, the Rachel Berry version. Yeah bud, that's not a movie.” Korg chuckled.
“Fine. Frozen.”
“Why would you say that?” Quinn hissed.
“You got a thing for Berry.” You rolled your eyes.
“That’s thick considering you and Jolene over there have been getting your answers right all night.”
“Did she just call me Jolene?” Natasha chuckled to Bruce who cringed.
“At least she knows me.” You mutter.
“Uhh so things are getting a little heated let’s just say the winner of the night is Tony and Pepper. Congrats you won a bottle of champagne.”
“I want to go home. Now.” Quinn grit in your ear.
“That’s probably best.” You nodded still pissed off.
You both stood and you waved at Thor. “Thanks for the invite man, sorry shit got awkward.” You sighed as Quinn slammed the door.
“Aw come on you can’t leave yet! I was gonna ask if you could play a few songs?”
“Yeah let’s jam out!” Carol shouted.
“Maybe next time guys.” You shake your head. “Thanks again Thor.” You walk towards the front door seeing Natasha nearby. “I’m sorry about that, Nat, have a goodnight.”
“You have to stop apologizing for her.” Nat sighs and you just nod.
“I’ll see you tomorrow night.” you say before walking out the door.
The walk home was silent. She was so far ahead of you which would normally make you upset but tonight you really just don’t care anymore.
You walk in the house locking it behind you before heading up stairs grabbing your shorts.
“So we’re not talking about it?” Quinn huffed as you stood by the bedroom door.
“Nope.” You answer, she scoffs in response as you walk off towards the guest room. You didn’t know what to do anymore. You were at a loss. It just didn’t feel like your marriage was working anymore. You squeeze your eyes shut, too tired to even pull that thread.
The following morning was silent. You did your normal routine breakfast, protein smoothie, and working out. You really needed it this morning. You gotta clear your head.
You and Quinn do your very best to avoid one another. Things were boiling and the cover of the pot was rattling off. You got the girls back from Kurt’s and by the time you got home she was gone.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
You were actually looking forward to the fair. Normally you didn’t care for them. Everything was dirty and sticky. The food was outrageously overpriced as are the rides, but being able to go with your girls and Natasha makes it all worth it.
You knock on her door as Fin rings the bell.
“Natttttty!” Fin giggled ringing the bell. “Natttttttyyyyy Fair!”
“I’m here, I'm here!”
“Hi Natty, I missed you.” Your daughter giggled.
“Hi sweetheart I missed you too. Hi Beth, have you been practicing?”
“Everyday!” She beams.
“That’s great dorogoy!” Natasha smiled before turning towards you. “I’m just going to get the kids.”
“Alright we’ll meet you at Clints.” You say walking towards your truck. You buckle Fin in her seat with Beth next to her.
You drive down across the street towards the Bartons when Natasha is walking out with Nate in her arms, the car seat in the other.
You hop out and fix up his car seat next to Fin’s as Beth and Lila go over the rides.
“No Cooper?” You ask Nat.
“He has a date tonight. I swear he’s growing up too fast.” Natasha whines.
“Yeah they do that alright.” You mutter looking in the rear view mirror at your girls.
“How has everything been?” She asks hesitantly.
“Not good.” You mutter.
“Well hopefully some overpriced food and funnel cake will take your mind off of everything for a bit.”
“I do love funnel cakes.” You chuckle.
“I know.” Natasha smiles.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
“Ooohh aunty Nat a Ferris wheel!” Lila beamed pointing at the lights.
“You two join the kids. Kate and I will grab some food with Mini Y/N.” Yelena smiled, nuzzling her nose against Fin’s cheek.
“Thank you.” You chuckled walking with Nat and the kids to the ferris wheel.
“I’m sorry if my sister is being bit much-“
“I love her, she's hilarious. This is the most I’ve laughed all week. Also you may have a competition now with Lena over Finley.”
“Finny and Nate are mine, she needs to back off.” She huffed making you laugh.
The kids sit down when it’s yours and Natasha’s turn.
“I just want to say you two have the most beautiful family.” The carney smiled.
You clear your throat. “Thank you.”
“That’s the third time tonight.” Nat chuckled while sitting down.
“Well we can’t blame them, we are all incredibly good looking.” You give her the goofiest model face you can muster making her laugh. The Ferris wheel begins to move and Natasha out of habit takes your hand.
“You scared?” You ask.
“A bit.” She nods looking down.
“Don’t look down, focus on the music.”
“Are they playing Careless Whisper?” Natasha snickered as the ride slowly began going.
You chuckled, taking her finger and began singing.
“Tonight the music seems so loud
I wish that we could lose this crowd
Maybe it's better this way
We'd hurt each other with the things we'd want to say
We could have been so good together
We could have lived this dance forever
But now, who's gonna dance with me?”
Natasha giggled and you stretched your arm around her as you looked down at your daughter Beth making sure she’s okay. She was laughing with Lila.
The Ferris wheel is playing romance music and you both can’t help but chuckle at the cheesy songs they play. That is until it’s your turn at the top. One of your favorite old songs began playing. It was Sing by Travis.
“I love this song.” You whispered.
“Sing it to me.” Natasha whispered back.
“Baby, you've been going so crazy
Lately, nothing seems to be going right
So low, why'd you have to get so low?
You're so…
You've been waiting in the sun too long”
“You have a really beautiful voice Y/N.”
“You do too ya know.” You give her lopsided grin.
Natasha blushes and looks up at the giant moon. “The moon is beautiful.” She says blissfully looking at the giant glowing moon.
“Yeah.” You briefly look but you can’t help but stare at her; entranced in a way by the glistening twinkle in her eyes.
She turns, feeling your gaze on her and she’s giving you that look. You’ve seen this look before. The ‘If you don't kiss me right now I might die’ look. It happened on the night of your birthday. You’ve seen it on your wife obviously, but you’ve also seen that same look on Sersi’s face, and a few other women. You never really had that feeling for them, but here now with Nat you’re questioning everything for the second time in your marriage.
You look down at those very kissable lips. Subconsciously briefly licking your own lips before dragging your eyes up to her striking emerald eyes instead of the hazel you’re used to. Meanwhile she’s doing the same thing, both of you leaning towards one another when the song ended the Farris wheel continued its descent. You clear your throat as you break eye contact and look away.
The ferris wheel came to a stop when you both got out.
“That was boring.” Beth sighed, you wouldn’t know this for a while but Beth saw how close you and Nat were.
“How about that roller coaster over there!?” Lila beamed.
“Yeah! Can we!?” Beth asked.
“Sure.” You say lifting up Finley while Natasha takes Nate from Kate.
“We’ll take the kids.” Yelena grins, leaving you and Natasha to the fried feast.
There’s a heavy silence in the air as you both eat.
“Y/N, there’s something I need to tell you.” She sighs.
“Okay?” You furrow your brows.
“Well hey neighbors!” Tony chuckled while sitting down. “Thanks for the invite by the way.”
Natasha inwardly sighed of course he would get in the way.
“Sorry Tony.” You chuckled.
“Because of this I’m taking some cotton candy.” He winked.
“Where’s Morgan?” You asked.
“I left her with Yelena and Kate.”
“Oh nice.” You chuckled and excused yourself to the restroom. “I’ll be right back.”
Natasha waits for you to be out of ear shot.
“You idiot you just had to interrupt!”
“What?!” Tony huffed.
“I was literally about to tell Y/N everything!”
“Ohhh.” Tony bit his lip. “I can scram.”
“No, it's too late.”
“I’m glad blondie isn’t here. She’d suck all the fun out of this place. Can you believe her attitude last night?”
“I didn’t care for her Jolene comment.” Natasha grumbled taking a sip of her lemonade.
You walked up taking a seat eating your corn dog as the girls walked up.
“Papa! I want some too!” Fin whined.
“Don’t worry, love, you can have one too.” Yelena smiled.
“That was so much fun!” Beth said, taking a seat and eating her chicken tenders.
“Kate, are you feeling okay?” Yelena chuckled.
“Everything is spinning.” She groaned.
“Can’t take the heat anymore?” Tony smirked
“Excuse me.” Kate gagged before running towards a trash can.
“I’ll go take care of her.” Yelena sighed, handing you Fin.
“Nooo Lennnna.” Fin whined.
“I’ll be back, lovebug.” She smiled, booping her nose.
“I feel betrayed.” Nat frowned.
“Hi Natty.” Fin smiled offering some of her corn dog.
“Thank you, Finny.” Natasha took a fake bite humming in response.
“Tasty.” Finley beamed before taking another bite.
“Aunty Natty!” Nate whined wanting her attention back.
“I’m right here handsome.” She chuckled, bouncing him on her leg as a reminder before feeding him a chicken tender.
Tony looked over at you watching the way you looked at the redhead. He knows that look, it can’t be described by anything else but love.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
After another round of rides and too much funnel cake Beth asked to spend the night with Morgan and Lila. Yelena and Kate went back to school so it was just you the tots, and Natasha.
“Well thanks for coming with us tonight. Looks like they’re conked out.” Natasha smiled looking behind to see the two toddlers sound asleep in their car seats.
“Hmm.” You smile.
“Wanna come inside for a bit?”
You nod and you grab Nate’s car seat and Natasha takes Fin in her arms. It all felt so domestic seeing her holding your little girl, and you holding Nate.
You both lay then down on her sofa covering them up before walking into the kitchen. Natasha starts the kettle pulling down the tea box.
“Blackberry sage, my favorite.” You smiled softly.
“It’s now my favorite too. It's so good.” Natasha smiled, pulling down the honey and peeling an orange.
“Thank you, Nat.”
“So you wanna talk about it?”
“I have never wanted to be away from her in my life, and lately?” You sighed, rubbing your head as the kettle began boiling. “I just feel like I’m the only one trying anymore, and I’m so tired of it.”
Natasha nodded in understanding before turning off the kettle and fixing your cup. She briefly wondered if she should tell you the truth but considering Quinn is at Rachel’s musical right now she decides it’s still not the time.
“You know what, no I don’t wanna talk about Quinn. What about you?”
“Well…” Natasha brings the cups over sitting down across from you. “I took your advice, or Hilary Duff’s and spoke with Thor and Val.”
“You did?” You beamed.
“Hmhm, I get my studio this week.” She smiled coyly.
“Nat, that is fantastic! I'm so happy for you. If you need help with anything I’m here for you.” You smile and she bashfully says thank you.
You both drink tea and talk about her plans for the next hour when you yawn.
“I should probably head home. I'm pretty tired.” You stretch standing up.
She nods and takes both our mug placing them in the sink before watching you lift Fin. She whines briefly before you whisper to her, calming her down. “Goodnight Nat.” You smile.
“Goodnight Y/N.” She whispers opening the door for you.
“Natty.” Fin whispers in her sleep.
“Shhh its okay.” The Russian whispers kissing her cheek when you bring her in a hug carful not to crush or wake Fin.
“Thank you, for everything.” You whisper gently, kissing her cheek.
She nods and kisses your cheek in response. You both sigh hearing Fin babbling in her sleep. You squeeze her hand before making your way back home. She stays on her porch watching you walk inside your home before shutting the door. She was falling so hard for you with no end in sight.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
You made your way downstairs seeing a redhead at the stove. She was setting a tray of what looked like cupcakes down.
“Hi.” You furrowed your brows with a smile.
“Hi.” She smiled back dipping her finger in batter before sticking it out for you to try. “Come on, try it. I know you want to.” She smirked turning toward you when you noticed she was wearing nothing but an apron. “Come on baby, take it.” She murmured now flush against you her finger found its way into your mouth.
“Hmm.” You hummed as she took her finger back, replacing it with her lips. “Natasha.” You sighed against her lips feeling her hand rubbing your cock.
“Don’t you wanna taste me?”
Your eyes fluttered hearing her voice near your ear.
“You’re drooling Y/N.”
You reached up, wiping your mouth.
“Take me Y/N. Take me and make me yours.” She husked before you lifted her up against you kissing her passionately before setting her down on the island.
You pull at her apron, shoving your pants down making your cock spring to life.
“Get inside of me I can take it.” She husks.
You groan feeling her wet cunt.
“Ohhhhh fuck!” She moaned as you pushed yourself through.
You groaned feeling your staff twitch inside of her. You lifted her legs on your shoulder pushing yourself deeper.
“Ohhhh Y/N! Oh daddy that feels so good! You’re so deep inside of me!” Her guttural moans were nearly pornographic. You lean in, taking her lips against yours. “Harder!”
You grunted, speeding up the pace as you thrusted harder and harder.
“Oh daddy right there! You’re so much better than Bruce he doesn’t even compare to you daddy, not even close.”
Her moans turned into wails. You could feel her twitch around you.
“Cum inside of me daddy I wanna feel you explode inside of me!”
You woke up with a gasp. You looked over seeing your wife asleep before noticing the time. It was 4 in the morning and you just came inside your boxers. “Fuck.” You whispered before quietly getting out of bed. You sighed, taking off the sticky shorts before cleaning up. It’s been a long time since you had a wet dream, but it was the absolute best fucking vivid sex dream you’ve ever had.
You furrowed your brows seeing her phone light up. You creeped on her side of the room peeking at her phone.
‘Appointment for tubal ligation reversal’
You gasped she had her tubes tied this whole time. She was clearly lying about being pregnant. I fucking knew it! You inwardly screamed.
You seriously don’t even know where to start with her. She’s a liar and a big one. Now you’re really wondering if it was her that stole your dream away. You look down at her sleeping peacefully and for the very first time ever you wanted to deck your wife in the face. You wouldn’t of course but still the anger and betrayal was beaming at the edges.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
The following morning Quinn woke up and you weren’t there. She figured maybe you were still upset with her and when you noticed her in bed you left. Either way she feels like you’re starting to hate her. She bites her lip feeling like she wants to cry. She can feel herself losing you everyday. It’s like every single move she makes pushes you further and further away. It’s only now that she realizes she has someone that others would kill for.
She got out of bed grabbing her robe and began searching for you. She went to the guest room and the girls rooms and couldn’t find you. She made her way downstairs noticing your running shoes were gone and Ollie was sitting by the door crying. She sighed that was a bad sign. You only run to clear your head especially when you’re extremely stressed out. She knows because you hate cardio. You're more of a lifting weights person you always have been. Plus you skipped breakfast which means you’re running long distance this morning.
When you do come back home you ignore her completely, only speaking to the girls. When she tried to speak to you all you replied was “I really need my space from you today. Please respect that.” Quinn in shock agrees and walks on eggshells every time she’s near you. She has to hand it to you though you do a great job of hiding it from the girls.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
You were thoroughly warned by Wanda this morning who said that there’s tons of kids who get bussed over here, and that you will need a lot of candy. It ended up working out perfectly. Quinn and Brittany are gonna hand out candy while you and Santana take the girls and Arlo trick or treating.
Wanda also mentioned that your house wasn’t as spooky as the others and handed you two boxes of old Halloween decorations including a 10 foot tall skeleton.
You and Santana were fixing up the front of the house when the Latina spoke up.
“Quinn mentioned you two have been fighting a lot lately. That you’re not even speaking to her.”
You sighed she always talks to them about the problems in your marriage. You hate when she drags them in your fights.
“Come on, I won't say anything to her. What happened Y/N I haven’t seen you this upset since she sold your motorcycle.
“I found out she has her tubes tied and lied to me about being pregnant. Really makes me wonder what else she's hiding from me.”
“She lied to you about being pregnant?” Santana said in shock.
“I was offered my dream job and she told me I couldn’t take it because she’s pregnant.”
“What a bitch. I’m sorry, Y/N, I swear I had no idea. What are you going to say to her?”
“Honestly I don’t know. I’m just so upset with her I can’t even look at her.”
“That’s understandable.”
“I wanted to hit her when I found out.” You sighed pausing your motions.
Santana looked taken back.
“You know I wouldn’t but fuck she’s just been so fucking unbearable lately. She embarrassed me at the party the other night. She’s trying to tell me who I can’t hang out with. She’s just so unbearable.”
“I’ll slap her for you, I just need to find the right opening.” Santana cackled.
“Hey can I ask you something?” You say causing Santana’s eyes to soften.
“Of course tonto.” She huffed shoving you back a bit.
“I-I’ve been having sex dreams.”
“Of who me?! Y/N I can’t say I never thought about it, but-“
“What?! No you weirdo you’re like a sister to me. Ugh gross, as if.” You cringed.
“Ass. You should be so lucky. Who is it then?” She rolled her eyes. “I swear if you say B I’m kicking your ass.”
“It’s… it’s Natasha.” You mutter.
Santana’s brows raised as she began smirking. “So Q is on the money you have the hots for your neighbor.”
“What? No, no, Nat is a friend, I just somehow keep-“
“Having hot sexy dreams of her?” Santana taunted you.
“Will you stop it! Ugh, forget I even said anything.” You growled about to walk away when she stopped you.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry, you don’t have to be so dramatic about it. So you’re having sex dreams about Natasha.” Santana shrugged. “She’s hot, it's natural to have those urges towards her.”
“But it just feels so… wrong. She’s a really good friend, and Quinn already has suspicions. I just don’t know how to-“
“How to stop the dreams?”
“Yeah.”
“You can’t; they're just sex dreams Y/N, but if you’re feeling more than just lust for her than that’s when you have a problem. Lusting after her, that's ok it’s natural for you to want to be balls deep inside of a woman like her, but it’s when you start having feelings for her that’s the problem.”
You nod when Natasha walks up.
“Hi Y/N, hey Santana, good seeing you again.” Nat smiles.
“Hey Natasha.” She smirks at you.
“What are you two doing?”
“Wanda told me to hang up more decorations.”
“She’s pretty obsessed with this holiday.” She chuckled.
“Halloween is sort of my thing too ya know. The movies, the pumpkins, and corn mazes.” You smirked.
“So Halloween is your favorite Holiday?” Natasha chuckled.
“Hmhm it’s-“ Suddenly Santana sang along with you. “The best day of the year!”
“Nice!” You gasped and high-fived Santana.
“You know this one used to throw the best ragers around this time.” Santana smirked.
“Oh really?” Natasha smirks looking at you.
You sheepishly shrug.
“Ohhh yeah I remember once the door broke off its hinges. I still don’t know how you fixed it so fast being that drunk, or the time Finn drove his car in your neighbor's pool.” Sanatana chuckled, shaking her head. “Good times.”
“Sounds like you guys were pretty wild.” Natasha smirked.
“Don’t get her started.” You chuckle. “What are your plans for the night?”
“I’m taking Nate and Lila trick or treating while Lena and Kate hand out candy. Clint and Laura always create a haunted house so they’re preoccupied.”
“Oh you should join us.” You smile gesturing to you and Santana.
“Okay sounds great!”
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
As soon as you stepped outside with Fin, Santana was laughing so hard she had tears in her eyes. “Okay but did you two talk about costumes?” Santana asked, looking between you and Natasha.
You both looked like you were together as a family. She was clearly Ariel, Lila seemed to be mermaid Barbie, Nate was King Trident, and of course Ollie is Max.
“Nope” You chuckled blushing.
“Natty look!” Finley giggled pointing to hers and Natasha’s costumes.
“Oh you're so cute!” She said taking her in her other arm.
“We’re the same!” Finley giggled. “Under da sea! Under da sea! Papa look!”
“I know.” You chuckled.
“Papa you have to kiss the goirl!” Finley giggled snuggling into Natasha. You blushed and Santana cackled once more.
“Oh my gosh I need photos right now.” Laura squealed as Clint chuckled, covering his mouth to keep from cackling.
Meanwhile inside with Brittany and Quinn
“Are you fucking kidding me.” Quinn growled seeing the whole interaction. “Do you see this shit?”
“They look good together.”
“Britt what the fuck?”
“Sorry, I thought I said that in my head.” Brittany mumbled looking out the window.
“Ugh!” Quinn stomped her foot.
Back outside
“Well are you ready Princess Ariel?”
“I think you need to ask my father King Trident.” She smirked.
“Ahh yes King Trident of the 7 seas. May you and your family accompany me on this Hallows night?” You bowed offering your hand.
“Oh brother.” Santana huffed as Nate giggled.
“Ignore Bellatrix.” You raised your brow.
“I’m clearly Hermione.”
“If you say so.” You muttered leading Ollie down the sidewalk.
“Beth stay close okay!” You shouted as your daughter and Lila ran off with Morgan and Monica.
Every house you all went to commented on how great you all looked together. The block however clearly had no words knowing you both were married to other people.
Natasha on the other hand was on cloud 9. You were constantly cracking jokes and had a back and forth with Santana that had her face hurting from smiling too much.
“Papa!”
“Hmm?”
“Sing Prince Eric's song!”
“Only if I get extra kisses!”
Finley giggled as she kissed your cheeks before saying. “Sing papa sing!”
“What do ya say Ariel?” You raise your brow at Natasha.
She chuckles before clearing her throat before letting out Ariel’s classic singing. “Ahhhhahhhh” Finley playfully joined Natasha in harmonizing. “Ahhhh ahhhhh”
“All I ever wanted was the open sea and sky. Freedom from the life I always knew. Now all I am is haunted. As days and hours roll by. All I ever think about is you.”
Natasha gulped you were her Prince she always wanted. You were her Prince Eric.
“There you are, over me”
Natasha harmonized again this time Santana joining in as she videoed you singing. Bystanders stopped to do the same
“Taking me with your song! To wild uncharted waters, miles beyond the sea I was darkness-bound, I had almost drowned 'Til you came around, and you found me!”
Santana bit her lip; you and Natasha were looking at one another the same way you used to look at Quinn when you sang to her. She knew you were starting to have feelings for the Russian beauty. She couldn’t even blame you especially with the way Quinn has been lately. Lying to you about being pregnant?! She wants to slap the shit out of her for that she’s gonna keep that in her back pocket.
“Now I am on the shoreline, but I'm still lost at sea! In these wild uncharted waters; Come find me again!”
You were going to end it there, but the crowd around you nodded towards you asking for you to keep going. You looked at Natasha and you began again.
“All I do is wonder who you are and where you'll be. In my mind, your melody goes on. Stronger than the undertow the night you rescued me. Silhouetted by the rising dawn.”
You had chills hearing her harmonizing.
“Ohhhhh, over you I cannot get over you! In wild uncharted waters; Beyond where man can see. When your eyes outshine the horizon line! And you're finally real, here beside me! Now I'm right here on the shoreline I'm right where you left me! And your voice is like A siren that guides me! To wild uncharted waters; alone, just you and me! And I hope you're there in the open air! There's no map or compass to guide me, no! Time may change the shoreline! But time will not change meeeeee! If it takes my life I will finally find you again In uncharted waters Come find me againnnnnnnnnnnnnn!”
The crowd around you cheered and clapped and you jokingly bowed.
You smiled at Natasha and Finley when a little girl pulled your sleeve.
“Oh hello!” You beamed.
“Prince Eric, can I take a picture with you?” The little girl asked bashfully. You looked up at her mother who mouthed ‘please?’.
“Why of course!” You beamed.
“Ariel, will you take one with us?” She asked.
You, Natasha, little King Trident and Finley stood for a line of photos.
“Thank you Prince Eric thank you Princess Ariel.” They would all say.
“Papa, we're popular.” Finley giggled. “Like aunt Rachel.”
“Betrayed by my own flesh and blood!” You gasped.
Santana chuckled as you all began walking back home. “Almost forgot how great your voice is Y/L/N.”
“You ever miss it?” You ask Santana.
“All the time.” She sighs.
“Me too.” You gave her a side hug.
When it finally came to an end it took a lot of candy to keep Fin from crying and throwing a fit. She wanted to keep going.
“Aww dad come on Morgan and Lila are staying too.” Beth groaned when you said no to her staying the night at Monica’s.
“Beth, you just stayed at Morgan’s. Besides, it's a school night.”
“We all go to the same school," Beth huffs.
You ignored that comment determined to stand your ground.
“Please! I’ll pick up after Ollie and feed him and walk him! I’ll even take the trash out!”
“You mean your chores?” You gasped chuckling as she stomped her foot.
“Come on, Y/N, don’t be such a dick-tator.” Santana cackled. “Go ahead mi amore.”
“San-“
“It’s Halloween! Be cool!” She huffed and nodded toward your eldest.
“Yayyyy love you Tia!” Beth took off.
“What am I chopped liver?” You huffed.
“Love you!” She shouted before squealing with her friends.
“Papa me and Ollie love you.” She smiled with chocolate on her face.
Natasha chuckled, wiping her face with a wet wipe.
“Thank you Natty, I love you.” Fin smiled at her.
“I love you too, dorogoy.” Natasha smiled.
“Papa, I wan Natty pwease.”
“She’s holding Nate, squirt.”
“You hold Nate I wan, Natty.”
“Ouch.” You chuckled and Natasha handed you a sleepy King Trident.
Nate whined pulling at his fake beard. You gently took it off laying it against your shoulder. The small boy yawned snuggling into your shoulder. You smiled hearing his soft snores as Fin babbled on to Natasha.
Santana walked next to you giving you a look.
“What’s that look for?” You chuckled and Santana pulled you back a little.
“Y/N, if you’re not happy with Q anymore you can leave her.” She said softly.
“I uh-“
“You don’t have to say anything. I’m just saying no one would be upset with you. You have to think about your own happiness sometimes. You can’t raise kids if you aren’t happy.”
You were completely taken back.
“Just think it over.” Santana nudged you and Natasha turned around.
“Papa come on trick or treat!”

When you finally made it to your lane Fin threw a fit when it was time to take her home.
“No Papa! Natty!” She cried.
Santana bit her lip as she took her son and Ollie inside your house.
“You’re just sleepy little Ariel.” You whispered, taking her in your arms.
“But don wanna seep.” She cried sleepily.
“When you wake up it’ll be ballet time.” Natasha smiled, kissing her cheek.
“Ballet.” Fin whispered as she began falling asleep on your other shoulder.
“I better take King Trident home.” She smiled, taking him from you.
“I can't wait to have another one.” You chuckled, handing him to Natasha.
“You want a boy?” She smiled at you as you walked her across the street towards the Barton haunted house.
“Yeah don’t get me wrong I love my girls, but I’ve always wanted a son too.”
“Well it’ll happen one day. You’re such a great daddy I just know it’ll happen.” Natasha smiled, speaking softly as to not wake the kids.
You briefly wondered if maybe Quinn would have a boy and a small part of you didn’t want another with her. Not after everything, not after the talk with Santana.
You both are greeted by the Barton’s who are closing shop.
“Hey there’s my little King Trident.” Laura smiled taking him from Natasha.
“Thanks again Nat- or should I say Princess Ariel and Prince Eric?” Clint smirked.
You chuckled, shaking his hand before leading Natasha back across the street.
“You looked amazing as Ariel by the way.” You smile.
“Same to you Prince Eric.” She smiled.
“Goodnight Nat.” You say as you both stand in front of her home.
She opted on not kissing your cheek seeing a certain blonde fuming by the window.
“Goodnight Prince Eric.” She smiled softly before making her way in the house.
You make your way inside right when Santana and Brittany are leaving.
“Bye Prince Eric.” Brittany winked.
“Think over what we discussed.” Santana muttered as she hugged you goodnight.
You looked over at Quinn who stood fuming looking at you with a glare. You rolled your eyes and ascended up the stairs. You could give a shit about what she has to say at this point.
You slept in the guest room again that night.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
You were deep in thought going over Santana's words once again. You were inwardly going over what would happen if you were to leave Quinn.
“Y/N the timer went off like 2 minutes ago.” Quinn huffed from her spot next to Beth. She was helping her with her math homework.
You snapped out of your daze turning down the stove top.
“What is up with you today? You’ve been in your head all day.” She asked.
You ignore her fixing up dinner.
“Y/N?”
“Damn it, Quinn, just not now okay! Can you let me finish dinner? Or am I not allowed to do that either???” You huffed with a roll of your eyes.
Quinn glared at you but before she could say anything back Beth broke the silence.
“Dad.” Beth muttered looking out the window.
“Hm?” You asked as you grabbed plates.
“The neighbors are gathering outside with guns  up.” Beth said looking over at you her brows crinkled together.
You saw Steve grab his rifle.
“Whoa what in the- Stay here.” You say sternly before rushing outside.
“What’s going on?” You asked Steve who now had his gear on with Carol and Bucky.
“A couple prison escapees were sighted a block away from here.” Steve speaks as he clips his vest. “Carol is heading south, I'm heading north and Buck will go East.”
“Clint said he’d go west.” Bucky spoke up.
“Y/N, do you have a gun?” Carol asked.
“Yes.” You nodded, picturing where you put it.
“Go grab it you never know.” Carol said, adding her magazine.
‘Natasha’ you thought as you ran inside setting the new system Tony and Scott installed.
“The house is now secure.” F.R.I.D.A.Y. spoke out as your house completely locked down.
“What’s going on dad?” Beth asked; seeing you run inside holding your phone to your ear.
“Y/N?” Quinn furrowed her brows looking up from Beth’s homework. She huffed standing up to follow you upstairs.
“Come on pick up.” You growled before taking a peek at Natasha's window. You hung up, you were just going to run to her place.
Quinn made it to the room just in time to see you lift the wooden board in your closet taking out your gun.
“Quinn, go get the girls, and Ollie then lock yourself in the room!” You say loading your gun.
“What the hell is going on? Why do you have that?!”
“There’s been a prison break and they were spotted near our block. I'm gonna go check on Nat.”
“What?! why?!”
“Because I called her 3 times and she’s not picking up.”
“What about us?” She huffed looking at you like you grew a second head.
“Q, you’re in a state of the art home security system that Tony and Scott set up. You and the girls are safe. I’ll be back, I know the code.” You ran out with Quinn and your daughter shouting your name.
“Natasha?” You say again, cupping your hands to see inside the dark house. Nat usually had her blinds open. Seeing a vase fall you call out again. “Natasha?!”
“Y/N!” She managed to yell, throwing her hand up from the floor behind the sofa.
That was all you needed, you backed up before kicking the door in.
Seeing a man holding her down with a knife and the other tying her up.
“Let her go. Now.” You growled, gripping your gun.
“You’re not gonna shoot me.” One of them laughed.
“You don’t know me, I don’t know you, but I know her. Really wanna try me now?” You arched your brow looking deep into his eyes.
He gulped, dropping the blade slowly lifting his hands up. “The fuck are you doing? Theres two of us and one of them! Get them!” The other inmate snapped before trying to drag Natasha down the hallway.
“Let me go!” She screamed, kicking and grabbing the wall.
“Let her go or I swear I’ll fucking shoot you!” You shouted.
“What are you doing, get off your ass and get them!” He gruffed trying to pull Nat. “Stop moving you little bitch or I’ll make it hurt!”
Natasha swept his legs punching him in the throat but he grabbed his knife.
You stopped thinking and shot him in the back.
“Ahhhhhh! Ahhhhh fuck!” He cried out landing with a thud. “I can’t feel anything! You crazy mother fucker you shot me!”
“Nat come here!” She rushed behind you.
The other guy panicked not knowing what to do.
“Get down on the fucking ground!” You shouted.
“Please don’t shoot me, I'm sorry!” He cried getting on the ground with his hands behind his head.
“I should fucking kill you for what you did to her!” You shouted.
“Y/N no!” She pleaded.
“No wait please, I'm sorry!” He cried.
“You’re sorry! You were gonna hurt her and attack me, but you’re sorry? I should just fucking kill you now.”
“Y/N?” Natasha said softly now behind you softly touching your arm.
“They would have hurt you.”
“Y/N, please.” Natasha pleaded.
“Y/N?” Steve called out.
“What?” You huffed, still pointing the barrel at his head.
“I got it from here.” He said softly. “It’s okay bud you did good.”
You nodded as he cuffed him. You placed the safety on the gun tucking it behind your back.
Natasha tackled you with a hug.
“Did he? Did they?” Your eyes are wild and brimming with unshed tears at the thought of anyone hurting her. You push her hair back looking her over pushing her hair back she was bleeding.
“No, no.” She shook her head feeling your hands gripping her waist as she places a hand on your chest and the other against you cheek. “I swear detka, just a few scratches, they hit me on the back of the head.”
Searching her eyes for the truth. She kissed your cheek bringing you back in a hug and you kissed her temple. Holding her close against you as you sighed in relief.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
“You’re lucky your spouse came home when they did.” One of the officers sighed after taking her statement.
“Oh I’m not-“ you cleared your throat. “I’m just the neighbor.”
Natasha’s still silent; you wondered if she heard that or if she’s just in shock.
‘I’m in love with Y/N.’ She thought to herself. ‘Y/N saved me. They’re always there for me. I’ve completely fallen in love with someone in a marriage.’
“Oh excuse me I just saw you holding her and then the rings and well I assumed.” He chuckled.
Soon a car came to a screeching halt behind the police barricade. It was him, it was Bruce. You noticed a brunette getting out of the passenger side.
“Sir I’m gonna have to ask you to get behind the barricade.” The officer who thought you were Natasha’s wife gruffed.
“I’m her husband. I live here!” He shouted.
“Not again Arnold.” You hear him mutter. “Let him through.” He sighed.
“I came as soon as I heard!” He shouted running toward her. The moment he brought her in his arms she snapped out of her state. Shoving him away harshly.
“Don’t touch me!” She screamed, getting everyone’s attention. She quickly backed away, colliding into you. You wrapped your arms around her feeling her tense.
“Hey, hey easy it’s just me.” You said softly as she turned in your arms.
“Natasha, it's me, Bruce, your husband.” He spoke softly and tried reaching out again but she buried her face in your neck.
“Y/N!” She cried; everything was hitting her at once. She was trembling in your arms.
“It’s okay, I know. It’s okay.” You whispered, holding her tightly as she began breaking down. She breathed in harshly before crying again.
An EMT came by speaking softly as she could. “You’re in shock. You’re having a panic attack. Come with me I can help settle you down a bit.”
The EMT knew the redhead wasn’t listening so she spoke with you. “Can you help bring her to the truck?”
You nodded wordlessly. Slowly scooping her up in your arms. Walking her to the ambulance. “You gotta let go.” You whispered trying to set her down.
She shook her head still shaking.
Another car came to a screeching halt. Out came a familiar blonde.
“Сестра!” She shouted. “Сестра, Где ты?!”
You raised your hand seeing Natasha’s head pop up at the voice.
She easily evaded the police barricade stopping in front of you both.
“It’s okay, she's fine. They’re sister’s.” Arnie sighed, already knowing the two were sisters.
You felt Natasha let you go and hug her sister.
You looked up seeing your wife standing next to Christine, arms crossed. A look on her face you can’t place.
Knowing Nat was okay you walked away only to have Yelena take your hand.
“Thank you for being there for her.” Yelena sniffled.
You just gave a small smile and squeezed her hand before walking back towards your wife.
You kissed her still lips before taking her in your arms holding her tight. You waited for her to hold you back, but it never came.
“Qui-“
“Thank you for taking care of her.” Bruce said, taking your hand; interrupting you and Quinn.
“Well maybe if you had been there you could have done it.” You snapped.
“Y/N.” Quinn gasped.
“No!” You whipped your head at your wife before looking at the nerd in front of you. “She could have seriously gotten hurt and where were you? Let me guess holed up with your side piece right?” You laughed gesturing to the brunette behind him. “Couldn't you leave her to take care of your wife?”
“Y/N stop it!” Quinn grit.
Now the entire block was standing behind you.
“Well I was working. I’m actually working on-“
“A breakthrough?” You questioned tilting your head stepping towards him only for him to take a step back colliding into his car. “You’ve been saying that for how long now?”
“Too fucking long!” Carol shouted.
“Tony back me up here.” Bruce chuckled awkwardly.
“No. You need to tell her the truth now.” Tony glares. “You said you were gonna tell her it’s been 2 months.”
Bruce sighed.
“Tell me what?” Natasha questions from the ambulance.
“Nothing!” Bruce shouts quickly with a nervous smile.
“Bullshit it’s nothing.” You grabbed him by his blazer shoving him back into the car. “Tell her the truth now!” You yelled. Quinn tried to pry your arm off of him but you shoved her back. “Say it!”
“I’ve been cheating on her with Betty!” He gasped covering his mouth looking over at Betty who merely shrugged.
“Say it to her you idiot.” You gruffed, shoving him towards the redhead.
“What the hell is the matter with you?” Quinn snapped, grabbing your arm.
“Him!” You yelled pointing at Bruce who was trying to run away from Yelena.
“That has nothing to do with you.” Quinn huffed.
“Natasha is my friend-“
“Y/N you shoved me.” She quirks her brow.
You sighed, rubbing your head. “I’m sorry I shoved you, but you weren’t there! You didn’t see those animals on her! They would have hurt her!”
“You’re right I didn’t because I was busy taking care of myself and the girls.” She snapped.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You snapped.
“You left us! You left your family for our neighbor! How do you not see what’s wrong with that?”
“You’re making it sound like I chose her over you. That’s not what happened. What happened was I acted fast, got you and the girls in lockdown. I told you when I didn't hear from Nat, I knew something was wrong, I can’t just ignore that. I will not!”
There was so much going on Natasha didn’t know what to focus on. She had almost been SA’ed. Her fake husband just admitted to his infidelity. The neighbors were now whispering and worse. You and Quinn were arguing about her. Right in front of everyone.
“Y/N, I am your wife. Me. I am the one who gave birth at 16 because you knocked me up! I’m the one who took the stretch marks and the constant feeding. I’m the one who works.”
“Wow…” you muttered looking away from her, noticing Val and Thor trying to get the rest of the block to leave. “I’m gonna go give my statement then we’ll talk about this in the morning. I can’t even look at you. You’re so fucking selfish.”
With that you walked away leaving a bristled Quinn behind. Quinn looked at Christine who gave her a brief side hug before walking back to her house.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
After your statement; the police and first responders made their leave. You’re not too sure what happened with Bruce but the scientist was nowhere in sight.
Yelena walked up leaving her sister on the porch. “She doesn’t want to stay in her house. Do you mind if we stay with you tonight until we can get the place secured and cleaned up?”
“Of course not. Come on.” You say walking towards the redhead. “Hey gingerbread-“ you feel her fall in your arms. Without another word you scoop her up and walk over to your home. Yelena opens the door and you begin going up the steps towards your guest room. You gently push the door open as Yelena turns the light on. You gently set her on the bed.
“Should I get you two some pajamas?”
“Thank you, Y/N, I brought some clothes so I think we’re good.”
“Don’t go.” Natasha whispered, taking your hand.
“I have to go change and talk to Quinn.” You respond.
“Please stay.” She shook her head holding onto your hand laying back down with Yelena right behind her holding her tight.
“Okay.” You whispered, shoving your pants off revealing your boxers and leaving your shirt on.
You laid down and she curled into you with Yelena curled into her.
“Y/N I have to tell you something.” She said softly, hearing Yelena already snoring away.
“What’s wrong?”
“...I lied to you… about Bruce.”
“What about him?”
“We’re married but… not really. He married me to make his ex jealous, and I married him for a green card.”
“Oh.” You say with a nod.
“Y/N, I’m sorry I didn't tell you. I should have told you a while back. I don't know why I didn’t. I knew you wouldn’t tell anyone. I guess I just-“
“Hey… it’s okay.”
“Really?”
“Of course to be honest I feel like an idiot now the way I yelled at him in front of everyone-“
“No one knows but you, the Barton’s, and the Maximoffs. I’m sorry, Y/N, I should have told you.”
“Water under the bridge-“
“Might want to hold on to those words because I have something else to tell you a couple things actually.” She muttered. “You might hate me after this.”
“Hey I promise that will not happen. Now what’s wrong?” You ask softly.
“I don’t know how to say this but after tonight I have to. You deserve to know these things. Just promise me you hate. Promise me you won’t stop talking to me.”
“I promise. You can tell me anything.”
“Back on football day Tony told me to tell you something important.”
“Why doesn’t he just tell me?” You furrowed your brow.
“Because he’s too chicken shit.” She huffed sitting up next to you.
“Okay.”
“Y/N, he told me you were accepted into MIT. In fact he said you had a full ride, but that someone turned down your scholarship. He doesn’t know who, but it’s true.”
“Wait… what?” You rubbed your eyes and head unable to process the information.
“I’m so sorry Y/N.” She whispered. “I know you really wanted to follow in your fathers footsteps.”
“I was accepted?” you sighed really wanting to cry. Your whole life you just thought you weren’t good enough. You remember seeing the disappointment in your fathers eyes when you told him you were denied. You remember feeling broken hearted. Now you’re racking your brain trying to remember anything that could pinpoint who it was.
“Y/N?”
“Hm?” You hum still in thought.
“There’s one more thing… Do you remember your birthday night?”
You gulp turning to look at her. Your heart was thumping out of your chest. You settle for a nod afraid of speaking at all at this point.
“When you went back outside Rachel stopped me.”
You furrow your brows and nod asking her to continue.
“Y/N she does like Quinn she outright told me. She wanted me to… Well she wanted me to help her break the two of you apart.”
“That little evil hobbit.” You growled. “I knew it, I knew Rachel is a snake.”
“I’m sorry Y/N.” She whispers.
“Don’t be; I’m the idiot.”
“No you’re not. You didn’t do anything wrong. Nothing Y/N. Some people are just not good.”
You try to get out of bed.
“Wait where are you going?” she asks, holding your arm.
“I need to take a walk. There's so much going on I can’t-”
“Y/N I am begging you right now please don’t go. Please. I- I need you here with me. I don’t feel safe with out you.”
You nod taking her in your arms when you see tears forming in her eyes. “Shhhh, shh, it's okay go to sleep I’ll be right here with you.”
“Promise?”
“I promise.” You say softly laying down with her shaking in your arms. You squeeze her tighter, kissing the top of her head. “I’ll be right here.”
Natasha nods and sighs in relief. Relief that the secrets she was holding are finally out. Though her body is still stuck in fight or flight mode you seem to be calming her right down and you have to admit after those truth bombs she was keeping you level headed. Though you didn’t sleep that night it was nice to hear her breathing.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
You got up early; quietly putting your pants back on before stepping out the door. You walked into your shared bedroom grabbing a fresh set of clothes.
“Where have you been?” Quinn asked, sitting up.
“Downstairs.” You lied putting your clothes on.
“Y/N, I’m sorry. I was out of line last night. I shouldn’t have been upset with you saving her. She would have been hurt or worse and I was being selfish.”
You felt taken back hearing her apologize. You didn’t say a word instead opting for a nod.
“I’m going to go and grab us breakfast from that place you love.” The blonde stood pecking your cheek before heading into the bathroom.
Soon she was out quickly putting on her yoga pants and shirt. “I’ll be back soon.” She smiled before stepping out. You watched her pull out of the driveway when you heard the guest door open.
“Hey.”
You turned to see Natasha.
“Morning.” You give her a small smile.
“Thank you for everything.” She said softly walking over to hug you.
“Of course.”
“I’m going to Lena’s place for a few days. Tony said his crew is working on my house so that makes me feel better.”
You nodded not wanting to push her to talk about it.
“Thanks again Y/N, and thank you for saving my sister.” Yelena spoke while walking up next to her sister.
“Of course.” You say again as she brought you in a big hug squeezing you tight before letting go.
“We’re totally going to get some breakfast. Want to join us? We’ll probably just take it to my place.” Yelena smiled.
“Thanks Yelena but Quinn left for breakfast so I’m good maybe next time.”
She nodded before looking over at Natasha. “Ready?”
She nodded. “Thank you, again Y/N.”
“No need to thank me.” You finally say as she hugs you she inhales deeply as you nuzzle her head breathing her in.
She smiles up at you and follows her younger sister out the door.
You yawned finally feeling sleepy as you watched her leave.

(This part was originally called Talking in Your Sleep by Rogue Wave I highly suggest to play it while reading this next part)
The next few days you were sleepless and all around depressed. You hadn’t been this helpless since Finn passed away. Quinn was being overly nice and waiting on your hand and foot. You couldn’t help but miss your neighbor. You had sex dreams of her every night. You texted her a few times to check in and see how she was doing. You learned she made it back home last night. You even asked her if she wanted you to go over and stay with her, but she insisted she needed to be alone. She needed to overcome her fear.
Quinn had gotten home late in the morning hours the end of her quarter went off without a hitch and now she has more time to be with you. She jumps in the shower eager to lay with you before you wake up.
When she finished showering she noticed the tent you were pitching. “Like clockwork.” Quinn smirked a quiet giggle escaping her breath as she uncovered you. She hummed seeing you in nothing but your boxers. You two haven’t had sex since Thor's party and she figured since she’s been a nice and doting wife she can wake you up in the best way possible.
“Nat?” You call out stopping her from opening her door. She turned around and you went up the steps.
“What’s wrong?” She smiled.
You bring your hands up to caress her cheeks looking into her eyes doing everything you can to convey how worthy she is. “You are the most beautiful, sexiest, most amazing, sweet, kind woman I have ever met. Let me show you how beautiful you are.” With that you brought her in a kiss, one that she eagerly responded back with just as much vigor.
The redhead moaned, feeling your hand on her waist and the other threaded through her tresses.
Soon you were both stumbling into her house stripping one another as you made your way to the sofa. She sat you down straddling you.
Quinn after warming herself up on your dick she slowly let you enter her. “Fuck Y/N.” She smiled closing her eyes feeling you fill her up.
You felt Natasha lift your member, closing her eyes as she sat down on your cock. “Y/N.” She sighed adjusting to your girth.
“Natasha.” You breathed out seeing her look down at you her nose nuzzling yours before she-
Suddenly you were woken up by water to the face. You gasped sitting up falling out of bed. Looking up to see a raging Quinn holding a large cup of water.
“Quinn what the hell?!” You shouted angrily seeing her place the cup down before quickly changing into jeans and a shirt.
“You’re cheating on me?!”
“What?!” You sputtered. “Where is this coming from?! You just woke me up in a shitty way Quinn!” You shouted thoroughly pissed off.
“Tell me why I’m trying to wake you up in the best way possible and you utter the neighbors fucking name.” She growled shoving her shoes as she started descending down stairs.
“Quinn!” You shouted hearing the front door whip open.
“Quinn stop!” You yelled running after her drenched in water in nothing but your boxers.
Steve who was mowing his lawn tilted his head seeing your wife pounding on Natasha’s door.
Bless her heart Natasha opened it still seemingly sleepy.
“Quinn? What’s going on?” She rasps.
“You lying little home wrecker!” Quinn towered over her, pointing her finger in her chest.
“Excuse me?” Natasha sputters in disbelief pulling her kimono closer pushing Quinn’s finger away.
“Oh cut the shit Romanoff, I know you want my wife. It doesn’t take a fool to see how desperate you are for her. So how long has it been going on?”
“Quinn!” You shouted running up the stairs. “Quinn stop it! You’re acting like a fucking psychopath!” You growled.
“No, tell me!” She yelled at both of you.
“I’m so confused. Tell you what? And why are you calling me a homewrecker?”
“Tell me why my partner called out your name while I was fucking them?!”
“Oh my God, oh my God, Oh my God this isn’t happening.” You muttered holding your head.
“Wha… What did you say?” Natasha shakes her head furrowing her brows. Were you thinking of her the way she’s been thinking about you? Did you secretly want her as much as she wants you?
“Okay since you’re too dumb to understand I’ll say it again-“
“Don’t call me dumb Quinn.” Natasha kinked her brow standing her ground.
“Then why are you acting like it?!”
“I’ve only just woken up to you pounding on my door calling me a homewrecker. I have no idea what you are asking me when you take this tone with me Fabray.”
“It’s Mrs. Y/L/N to you Romanoff.” Quinn said, taking another step up towering over the redhead. “How long have you been fucking Y/N?”
“Y/N and I are friends Quinn. They would never do anything to hurt you like that. You should know that already.”
“Fuck you; telling me to trust Y/N. How can I trust them when they’re calling out your name in our bed?”
It was silent as she looked at you with an unknown expression.
“Quinn, I was asleep it wasn’t like that-“
“Don’t do that.” She snapped pointing at you. “You think I’m dumb? I’m riding you and you call out another woman’s name? What the fuck else are you two hiding? Are you even in a marriage with Natasha?”
“No, actually we’re getting a divorce.”
“You two have a thing together and I’m fucking sick of it. You’re done. You’re done being around my partner, and my kids. Leave my family alone.”
Your eyes darkened and you stepped between the two women. “She’s not going anywhere.”
“Is everything okay here?” Steve walked up handing you a robe.
“Thanks Steve.” You mutter placing it on.
“No, it’s not actually. You cheated on your wife and that energy got on Y/N.”
“I came out Quinn. I think the cheater here is you.” He crossed his arms.
“Wait what?” You furrowed your brow.
“Excuse me?” Quinn raised her brow.
“I was the one that saw you that night at Y/N’s party. I’ve been waiting patiently for you to confess, but I guess I’m gonna have to do it for you because Y/N deserves to know.”
“Steve, what are you talking about?” You furrowed your brows.
“Nothing! He’s obviously crazy.”
“Y/N, I’m so sorry to tell you this it should have come from your wife. The night of your birthday I caught Quinn making out with Rachel. Pretty heavily.”
“You cheated on me with Berry?” You asked, furrowing your brows in shock.
“No!” She huffed. “I would never-“
“Quinn.” Steve glared.
Quinn rolled her eyes. “Y/N she’s into you this is why they’re lying!”
Natasha ignored the blonde and continued. “Y/N, Steve, is not a liar. If anything this lines up with what I told you Rachel said to me that night.”
“Oh please, you're lying. Y/N they are lying to you!” Quinn laughed.
“You’re the liar Quinn.” You said eyes brimming with tears. “You lied about being pregnant.” Quinn’s eyes were wide with shock. “Yeah I know you tied your tubes. You lied about Berry, and you fucking stole my chance to go to MIT. I know it was you! I knew you were bitch going into this relationship. I just never thought you would go this low not, with me.”
“Y/N, baby, I swear I didn’t-“ Quinn had tears forming in her eyes. “Okay, I lied about the baby, and I did- I did kiss Rachel, but I didn’t steal your dream away I swear it wasn’t me.” She sobbed, she tried to take your hand and you snatched it away. “I wouldn’t do that to you Y/N!”
“Fuck you!” You shouted. “Quinn, you're a liar and a cheat! I'm done with you! I want you out of the house. I can’t even look at you right now. We’re getting a divorce.”
“No please Y/N! Please don’t do this. I'm begging you to come back with me. We'll talk about it. I promise you we’ll figure this out together! Please!” She sobbed as you shook your head.
Natasha opened her door further letting you and Steve in the house.
“Natasha please that is my wife, my husband, my partner I’m begging you-“
“You’ve done enough.” Natasha snapped slamming the door in Quinn’s face.
“Oh my God.” Quinn inhaled trying not to have a panic attack. She turned to see some of the neighbors outside staring at her.
“You should be ashamed of yourself.” Wanda called out as Quinn walked home.
Meanwhile inside the Romanoff residence you were having a panic attack.
“It’s okay bud inhale 1, 2, 3, 4 hold 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 exhale 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 repeat.” Steve was used to calming down panic attacks because of Bucky. After losing his arm he suffered from severe PTSD for a long time. “There you go now tell me what’s one thing you can see, smell, hear, and touch?”
“Um the photo of Nat and Yelena when they were kids, I can smell Nat’s home musk, I can hear her grabbing me a cup of water, and I can feel the fluffy carpet beneath my feet.”
“There we go.” Steve smiled, feeling your pulse instantly dropping.
“Did you really see them?” Your voice cracked.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N, I should have told you sooner I was hoping she would confess.”
Natasha laid a cool hand towel on your forehead handing you a glass of water. “I’m sorry detka.” Natasha whispered, laying her hand on the center of your back. She didn’t know this yet but that hand placement always made you feel better. You leaned into her and began crying feeling her wrap her arms around you, rocking you. “It’ll be okay. I promise.” She whispered.
“I’m sorry you had to find out this way Y/N.” Steve felt his heart break for you.
You cried a little harder and Natasha turned her head towards him. “I got this Steve if you wanna…”
He nodded, taking the hint. “Let me know if there’s anything I can do.” He stood feeling terrible as he made his way out the door.

You woke up a few hours later practically on top of Natasha.
“Hi.” She whispered, pushing your hair back. “How are you feeling?”
You groaned sitting up.
“So my shot at MIT was stolen, she lied to me about being pregnant, a long time frenemy has been trying to break us up, and kissed my wife. Am I missing anything else?” You rubbed your face letting it all really sink in.
You groaned remembering Quinn embarrassed you about calling out Natasha’s name in bed.
“Y/N.” Natasha sighed you haven’t looked at her.
“Yeah?” You cleared your throat.
“So you had a sex dream about me!” She exclaimed, causing you to groan in embarrassment. “It’s not a big deal I’ve dreamt about you.”
“What?” This caught your attention. Your head almost got whiplash with how fast you turned.
“Oh my God, you’re terrible. Yes Y/N I have had sex dreams about you.”
“Dreams; plural;  as in more than one?”
Natasha, realizing her mistake, rolls her eyes and shrugs. “Yes.”
“Oh.” You say suddenly very aware of your proximity.
“So now will you look me in the eye?”
You slowly met her gaze she dreamt about you fucking her… more than once! Maybe Quinn was right, maybe she is into you and maybe you’re into her too. You’re on unfamiliar ground. You’ve only ever been with Quinn.
“I’m sorry for being so weird about it. I just- I’ve never dreamt about a friend before.”
“Come on, you need to eat something. I know you love omelets. Want me to make you your favorite?”
You nod in surprise.
⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗ ⧗
“Okay we’re here- why the hell does your face look like a puffy marshmallow?” Santana grimaced.
“Quinn what’s wrong?” Brittany furrowed her brows
“I- I fucked up.” Quinn began crying.
“What the hell did you do, Fabray?”
“I cheated on Y/N.” She sobbed.
Santana sighed, she hates to say she saw this coming, call it her Latin 3rd eye, but she knew something has been off ever since your birthday.
“Quinn!” Brittany gasped.
“What the actual fuck Fabray?!” Santana huffed standing back up so she wouldn't slap the life out of Quinn. “Who, when, where, and how many times?”
“It was one time and we didn’t even have sex we- we made out.”
“It was with Berry wasn’t it?” Brittany muttered.
Quinn nodded.
“Wow. You’re a dumb bitch for that Fabray. Y/N gave you everything and this is how you repay them?”
“What do I do?” Quinn sobbed.
“Well you’re gonna give Y/N space and if they decide to leave and divorce you then I highly suggest you do it if you have any respect for Y/N.
“I can’t just let Y/N go. I can’t, I love Y/N.” Quinn sniffles.
“You have a really funny way of showing it.” Santana scoffs. You kissed faked a pregnancy, treat them like crap, kissed a troll, and stole Y/N’s chance at MIT.”
“It wasn’t me.” She cried.
“Then who was it?” Santana asked. “Bitch, you’re already fucked might as well be honest now.”
Quinn gulped for uttering the words. “My mother.”

“Are you going to do anything fun this weekend?”
“Mhm. Habe a seepover wit Olibia. An mama say we habe tea pawty.” Lottie informs her father.
He was sitting on the floor of the living room with his back against the couch. His head tilted back so that it was resting on Lottie’s lap and she could play with his hair. It was their new night time routine. Bucky looks up to find Lottie smiling down at him while her little fingers tangled themselves along his dark silky strands.
“Dada habe fun?”
“Lots of fun, doll. I’m gonna go fishing and then some more fishing and then some more fishing and then-”
“Dada.” Lottie giggled.
“What?” Bucky replied with a chuckle of his own.
“Dada funny.”
“He’s hilarious.” You call from the hallway as you put your phone away after having taken a picture of the two of them. “But it’s time for bed missy.”
“But mama am making dada pwetty.”
“I see that. You’re doing a great job, he looks very pretty. But if you go to sleep now you’ll be able to see Olivia tomorrow.”
Lottie gasped at this new bit of information before scrambling off the couch, almost kicking Bucky in the face while she did so. She’s already in her pajamas so all she has to do is pick out which book she wants for a bedtime story.
“I was getting the best head massage and you just had to ruin it.”
“Oh I’m sorry baby. I’ll make it up to you.”
“And how will you do that?” Bucky’s expression darkened and he gave you his most devilish, knee weakening grin.
You don’t answer, instead you take a step back and then another as you watch Bucky stand and start stalking toward you. With a giggle you start moving down the hallway but Bucky is right behind you. His intentions were clear but the sweet melodic voice of your sweet Angel stopped anything from happening. For the moment at least.
“Dada, this one.” She held up a book for him to read. Bucky stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her, his demeanor completely changed.
“I’ll be waiting.” You call out after checking in on an already sleeping Henry.
Bucky groaned as he watched you saunter away. The sway of your hips and the flirty wink you send over your shoulder drives him wild. He walked into Lottie’s room where she was already sitting in bed patiently waiting to be tucked in with the book in her hands. Bucky’s eyes soften as he takes in his little girl smiling happily at him. Surrounded by comfort and love and happiness. He couldn’t help but feel selfish as he thought about wanting more of this life with you. He wanted his exhaustion to come from chasing little versions of you and him around and not from hunting down and getting rid of hydra.
“Dada?” Lottie calls him as she holds the book out for him to take.
“Alright, let’s see what you picked for tonight.” Bucky tucks Lottie in and sits at the edge of the bed and opens the book to the first page.

“You remember what I said right?”
“Yeah mama.” Lottie answered from her place on the counter. Her feet kicking in the air as she watches you fill a thermos with coffee. “Dada an bubba go fish wit gwandpa.”
“That right and they’re going to be gone all weekend so we get to have a girls weekend. Olivia and all of your aunties will be here soon.”
“Habe fun wit Olibia.”
“Yeah and uncle Clint’s daughter is going to be here too. Her name is Lila.”
“Habe seepover too?”
“We can ask her when she gets here.” You say as you clean up. The front door opens and you see a little head topped with light brown curls speeding in.
“Lottie!”
“Olibia!”
Both girls squeal in delight as they reunite. You quickly grab Lottie from her place on the counter before she jumps and set her down. They don’t waste another second as they embrace. Immediately they begin to talk about what they should do first before Charlotte takes Olivia’s hand and they run together into Charlotte’s room. As soon as they disappeared Molly, Sofia and your brothers walk in followed by Bucky and Henry.
“I think we’ve lost them already.” Molly says as she hugs you. “How have you been?”
“Good and you?”
“I’m ready for this weekend to get started.”
“There she is.” Luke said as he walked in and engulfed you in a hug of his own. Soon enough you were greeting and hugging the rest of the family.
“Where’s dad?”
“Tony stopped him, something about taking a jet?”
“Of course he’d rather take the jet.” You chuckle. “Coffee anyone?”
You get a chorus of yeses so you serve everyone a cup as you catch up.
****
Apparently it only took twenty minutes to convince Eddie to take the jet instead of separate cars. So now everyone was just outside the hanger as the guys packed their things in. They’d never admit it but you could see how giddy Eddie, Luke and Joshua were.
“Don’t worry kitten, I’ll keep an eye on them.” Your dad said as he stepped up to say goodbye.
“Good luck with that. They’re trouble when they get together.”
“You forget I was in the military. Wrangling in troublemakers was my job.”
You smile as you hug him. “We’ll talk when you come back?”
“Of course. But you have fun too.”
“Sure will.”
Eddie moves to say goodbye to everyone else. It’s like the rest of the team has adopted him as their dad. It’s sweet and you know that your dad loves it and the team appreciates him. You watch Steve scoop up both Lottie and Olivia to say his own goodbye but not before they talk his ear off with everything they’ve planned. It felt like a glimpse into the future and you could totally see Steve being a girl dad. He gives you a quick hug and heads for the jet.
“Alright sugar, are you sure you’ll be ok?” Bucky asks as he hugs you for what felt like the 100th time.
“Yes baby, I’ll be fine. Go have fun and relax. You’ll love the cabin and so will Henry.” You say with a smile before your eyes start roaming. “Where is Henry?”
“He’s with A.J., Cass and Cooper.”
As if on queue Henry runs to you and throws his arms around your waist.
“You ok sweet boy?”
“Why can’t you come with us?” He says as he looks up.
“Because I’m staying here to hang out with the girls and you get to go fishing like grandpa said. I promise we’ll make a trip just the four of us ok? But this will be fun and when you come back you can tell me everything you did.”
“Ok.” He hugs you tighter though, as if he doesn’t want to let go.
“Think of it this way, it’s your first official mission. You have to have fun and report back to me. Now if you don't like it your dad can call me and we can talk on the phone for a while and if you really really really don't like it, I can pick you up and bring you home. But you have to try to enjoy yourself first. Promise?”
He smiles at that. “I will, promise.” Henry let’s go and you see him run toward Lottie and Olivia. He hugs Olivia first and then Lottie. This is what had worried both you and Bucky; they seem to be taking the thought of separation well though. You can’t make out what they’re saying to each other other than Lottie assuring him he’ll have a good time as she touches her head. Meaning she had a vision about it. He reminds Lottie to take care of Alpine while he’s out.
“Alright we should get going if we want to avoid any traffic.” Bucky jokes.
“Dork.”
“Ah yes, but I’m your dork.” He says before kissing you. “Have fun, sugar. But not too much fun without me.”
“Same goes for you.”
All the guys board the jet, leaving the women back at the compound. Once the jet has disappeared everyone starts to head back inside.
“Do you guys want to learn how to shoot a gun?” Nat asks Sofia and Molly.
“Shooting lessons from the widow herself? Sign me up.” Sofia says.
Molly looks over at Olivia as she thinks it over.
“Go. I’ll watch them. They already have a plan to watch Disney movies and dress up as their favorite princesses.”
“Really? You don’t mind?”
“Absolutely not. I’d like some time to get to know my niece better. Besides, Laura will be with me.” You motion to Laura, Clint’s wife. “I think the girls invited her daughter Lila.”
“Ok, thank you so much but I will watch the girls later so that you can do whatever you want to.”
“Have fun.”
You watch as Nat leads them to the gun range. Wanda and Sarah mention something about the pool and May tags along. It made you happy that Tony took Peter with him. He obviously admired the team although he hadn’t joined officially. He was young, he had time.
“Ready to get this show on the road?” Laura asked as she walked up beside you.
“I sure as hell am. Come on girls.”
Tumblr media
The girls had taken over the living room. Although Lila was almost four years older than Olivia and Lottie she still played along and sang her heart out to the movie that was playing. While they were busy with that, you and Laura were sitting at the dining room table. Each of you with a cup of coffee as you chatted away.
“Do you miss it?”
“Working for shield?” She asks and you nod.
“Honestly. I do sometimes but then I hear the kids playing and laughing and I wouldn’t trade that for the world. Why, are you thinking of retiring?”
“Maybe. I mean just the going on missions part. I do work in the medbay and I could probably train some of the recruits on medicine in the field. I just feel like my focus has shifted, you know?”
“Well I’ll tell you one thing. I might miss it from time to time but I don’t regret it. If I had to go back and do it over again, I would.”
“Thanks,” you smile. “I don’t think it will be any time soon but it’s good to know.”
The two of you talked a bit more over coffee. It was good to be able to express your concerns with someone that had been in a similar situation.
“It’s really quiet.” Laura said suddenly.
“Oh no, let me check that they haven’t disappeared into the compound. Lottie has a knack for running around.”
“Or worse they’re making a mess somewhere.”
You sigh when you walk into the living room. “Or worse they’re torturing the cat.” You call over your shoulder.
Laura walks up behind you. In the living room the three girls were trying to put bows on a very grumpy looking Alpine.
“Charlotte, Al doesn’t like bows in her fur.”
“But make pwetty mama.”
“But she’s sad, sweet Angel. Why don’t you give each other makeovers instead?”
“Kay.” She says before running into her room to get her makeup kit.
Both you and Laura fell victim into what ended up being a whole salon. Lila was on nail duty, Olivia had hair and Lottie of course had makeup.
Fortunately the rest of the weekend would be a lot more relaxed. Tony had set up times for massages and facials and anything else you could have wanted. You made sure to take plenty of pictures of the girls together. Especially taking pictures of Charlotte in her little pink bathrobe sitting back and relaxing with a face mask on. Her eyes were closed but her little foot tapped along to the music that was being played. You promptly sent them to Bucky.
Everyone enjoyed the small break in their routine. There was a karaoke and game night. You had a movie night in the pool room, where everyone lounged in a floatie and watched a mix of shows and movies. It was a nice easy weekend and you enjoyed every minute with your sweet Angel.
Tumblr media
“This place is great.” Steve said as he walked out of the jet. The cabin is a lot bigger than expected, which makes sense or else Eddie wouldn’t have invited everyone.
“It’s been in the family for generations. We’ve even added rooms to it to fit everyone over the years.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, we used to come up here for vacations every summer. Aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents.” Luke says. He walks past Steve and right to the front door.
Eddie and Joshua head inside with Eddie ushering everyone in.
“Alright, I think we should start with everyone picking rooms. Mine is up stairs at the end of the hall. Josh and Luke will share a room and I think the boys can share the kids room since it has bunk beds. Everyone else go figure it out.” Eddie says as he stands at the bottom of the stairs.
All the guys do as they’re told. Bucky, Clint and Sam usher the boys into the room Luke pointed out and helped them settle which bed they’d be using. Henry, though felt a little unsure about the arrangement and held on to Bucky’s hand.
“What’s wrong bub?” Bucky took a knee to be at eye level with his son.
“I don’t like it.”
“Why don’t you like it? Is it because it’s a new place or because of the beds?”
“The beds.” Henry looks back in the room and shivers as memories come back. “The bad men used to have beds like that and they kept us in there all the time.”
Bucky remembered the pictures he saw of Henry and other prisoners of hydra of all ages being kept in rooms with bunk beds. Too many people in such a small space.
“Ok, so how about we find a room with a big bed and you can sleep with me instead?”
“Will they get mad if I don’t sleep here?”
“No, you can still play here and we’ll spend most of our time at the lake anyways. They’ll be too tired to notice.”
“Ok.” Henry nods.
“Hey, why don’t you take Y/N’s room?” Luke said from the door of his own room. “It’s that one.” He points over his shoulder to a door with a sign that says do not enter on it.
“Thanks.”
Bucky and Henry walk down the hall and open the door. It was like walking back into the past, your past specifically. It was obvious you hadn’t been here in a while. The room’s decor was meant for a teenage version of yourself. It was pink and frilly and there were too many posters of bands and actors on the walls. Was it normal for Bucky to feel jealous of a poster? Probably not but it wasn’t going to stop him. He took out his phone and told Henry to step inside so that he could take a picture and send it to you.
Bucky: Guess where we’ll be sleeping…
Sugar: oh my sweet boy!!!! I miss him so much already… also don’t let Steve see my room!
Bucky: Too late…
Bucky proceeds to send a video of Steve laughing as he looks around the room and pokes fun at your things. He holds up an old stuffed animal that has seen better days. Then he starts to goof off with some old accessories that were still on the dresser.
Sugar: I kicked his ass once, I can do it again.
Bucky: he stopped laughing. I might have to start threatening him with that myself. I’ll keep you updated. Love you. Give Lottie kisses for me, miss my doll!
Sugar: love you too, give Henry kisses for me!
Bucky puts his phone away and unpacks his and Henry’s things for the long weekend. He can’t help but smile the longer he spends in your room. He begins to think about spending some time away from the compound and missions and problems. Just you, him and the kids and Alpine of course. A family vacation. It spirals from there, Bucky starts dreaming about school plays and Christmas and all the memories he wants to make. All good memories to replace the bad ones.
“Daddy?” Henry calls from the door.
“Yeah bubs?”
“Can we go outside now?”
“Yeah. Let’s go see what everyone is up to.” Bucky walks out of your room and follows Henry downstairs.
Everyone is sitting around on the large sectional sofa. Henry joins the boys after A.J. calls him over to play with the Lego sets they found.
“So what’s first?” Tony being the one that always needs to be doing something asks.
“You’re good with machines right?”
“I’d hope so or else those suits I use are made by someone else.”
“I need your help.” Eddie gets up from his recliner. “We have these golf carts and 4-wheelers we normally use to get around the property but they’ve been giving me some trouble. Think you can take a look at ‘em?” He says as he leads Tony to a stand alone garage.
“I’ll have them up and running in no time.”
“Good. Knock yourself out, kid.” Eddie walks out and heads back towards the house. “One troublemaker down.” He mutters to himself.
****
“What do you mean you’ve never watched Star Wars?” Eddie looked at Henry in disbelief.
“I think mama has it on a list but we haven’t watched it yet.”
“That is unacceptable and I’ll be talking to your mom about it.” Eddie gets up from his recliner and moves towards the tv. “No grandson of mine is going to walk around without having watched the Star Wars movies.” He sets out to play the first movie.
Henry giggles as he takes a seat on the couch. The conversation had gotten the attention of the others, who were just outside on the porch.
“Oh boy, now we’re talking.” Luke says as he takes a seat. Slowly but surely everyone finds somewhere to sit.
“If you’re going to be part of this family,” Eddie turns around and looks at each and everyone of them. “Star Wars are a must watch on every trip to the cabin, no exceptions.”
So everyone settles into the couch and into this new tradition. A silent agreement forms amongst the team. Eddie is the group dad and must be protected at all costs.
Tumblr media
Everyone is up early the next day. Anything and everything that might be needed while out on the lake is packed and the men are off for their first day out. The team is surprised to see Eddie has a boat, they thought they’d be fishing from a dock. Eddie laughed at that before setting off. It was the middle of summer though and the lake was busier than usual. It didn’t stop the team from having a good time though.
The fishing was ignored since there were too many people swimming and partying and scaring off the fish. With swim trunks ready almost everyone jumped into the water. Henry overlooked the water as everyone jumped in, even Cass, A.J. and Cooper. Bucky swam up to where Henry was standing and looked up at him.
“Hey bubs, everything ok?”
“I don’t want to jump in.” He says softly. The truth was that he was afraid of lakes.
That’s where hydra ‘taught’ him how to swim. They would grab him from his cell in the middle of a cold night, put him on a boat and throw him overboard and expect him to swim back to shore. He was four.
“It’s ok if you don’t want to jump in. We can hang out right there. I’ll be up in a second.”
“I’ll stay with him.” Eddie said from his seat. “C’mere Henry.” He patted the seat beside him and Henry sat down. “Are you scared of swimming or the lake?”
“The lake. The bad men, they used to throw me in it at night and I had to swim back or I’d get punished.”
Eddie inhales a sharp breath. He knew about Henry’s past, you had spoken to him about it on one of your late night calls. By now Bucky was sitting on the back of the boat, legs hanging over the side and toward the water.
“That is scary. I don’t think I could have ever done that.”
“Really?” Henry looks at him with wide eyes. “But mama says you’re really brave.”
“I try to be but even brave people have things that scare them. But you know how you become brave?”
Henry shook his head.
“I bet your dad knows.” Eddie and Henry look at Bucky.
“When you have the opportunity to face your fear you have to try. And just by trying you become braver and then one day you’re not scared of it anymore.”
Henry bit his bottom lip as he thought about what his dad had said.
“Do I have to do it alone?”
“Nope. That’s why having a family is so great, they can be there to hold your hand.” Eddie answers.
Henry looked out toward the water and back at his grandpa. “Will you jump with me?”
“Sure thing kid.”
“I want daddy to jump with me too.”
“What do you say Bucky?” Eddie looked over to bucky.
“I say let’s do it.”
Bucky wiped away the water that was getting into his eyes before looking over at Eddie and Henry.
“Alright, let’s do this bubs.” Bucky smiles and nods. “How about we have uncle Steve close by just in case you need help?”
“Ok.” Henry stands by the side of the boat. He looks over the edge and into the water, he frowns but takes a deep breath. Henry doesn’t have an issue with swimming, he just prefers to be able to see the bottom. That’s why he likes pools. “Just gotta be brave.” He whispers to himself.
Bucky had called Steve over and then everyone was looking over and cheering Henry on. Eddie stands on Henry’s right side and Bucky on his left. They both take Henry’s hands. The boat bobs up and down as the three of them shift around causing a ripple effect in the water.
“Are you ready bubs?”
Henry looks at the water again and then up at Bucky. With another deep breath he nods.
“Ok bubs, ready 1… 2…3… jump.” Bucky says and all three of them jump into the water.
Underwater, Henry panics for a moment and kicks wildly before he’s pulled above. Bucky is holding him close and wiping away water from his face. There’s cheering around him. As Henry blinks and looks around he sees Steve, Sam and the others.
“How did that feel?” Eddie asks as he bobs around the water.
“Scary. But I was brave. Are you proud daddy?”
“Oh I’m so proud of you. You’re the bravest kid I know bubs. You should be proud of yourself too.”
Henry smiles and wraps his arms around Bucky’s neck. Bucky kisses Henry’s temple and mouths a ‘thank you’ to Eddie.
“Come on Henry, let’s race.” Steve says.
“Can I go?”
“Of course you can. Go kick his butt too.”
Henry giggles as he swims off in Steve’s direction. The rest of the day is spent either hanging out on the boat or swimming. Henry jumps into the water a few more times, each time is a little less scary but he still holds on to someone’s hand. First it’s Steve, then Sam, followed by Tony, who didn’t want to be in the water but one look from Eddie and he agreed. He wouldn’t say it but he was glad to be able to relax like this. Henry even jumped with Luke and Joshua and then with Cass, A.J. and Cooper. But his final jump was him alone.
By the time they got back to the cabin they were all exhausted. After showers and a quick dinner everyone was asleep in their beds. Henry even opted to sleep in one of the bunkbeds.
During the whole weekend he tested some limits. He still struggled with certain things but it was understandable. Before if he cried no one would comfort him but now he has a whole lot of people that would line up just for the chance to do so. Henry slept easier that night, there were no nightmares or waking up in cold sweats and tears, just exhaustion and pure joy.
The next few days they did manage to go fishing. Sam was in his element as he helped some of the others. There were late nights around the bond fire and even a lightsaber fight. That prompted Tony to start working on actual lightsabers even when everyone shut him down.

The guys were set to return today. It was going to be a great day because it just so happened to be the 4th of July. Upon learning that the 4th was also Steve’s birthday, Lottie lost her mind. She was so excited to celebrate her favorite person’s birthday and wear the outfit that you had bought for her. It was a dress in the same shade of blue as Steve’s original suit from the 40’s. The skirt was layered tulle with red trim. On her chest was the iconic white star and she even had a utility belt. It was full of candy. The look was complete with a plastic shield, fingerless gloves, two high pigtails adorned with red bows, white star shaped sunglasses and her little combat boots.
So while waiting for the jet to land you held Lottie’s hand. She was bouncing in place causing the ruffled skirt of her dress to bounce. Next to her was Olivia, who was dressed in something similar at Lottie’s request. When the jet finally touched ground and the ramp was lowered Lottie was practically vibrating. You expected some sweet reunion between your sweet Angel and her favorite person. What you didn’t expect was that she would attack him, playfully of course. More importantly it was caught on video
The minute she saw Steve she started running and threw the shield like a frisbee, hitting Steve square in the chest. He was absolutely taken aback since he wasn’t paying attention. He first saw the small shield on the floor by his feet and then he heard Charlotte’s laughter as she ran towards him. Steve’s face almost split in half with the huge grin he sported. He dropped to his knees and opened his arms. Still when Charlotte jumped she knocked him back on to his ass. Her laughter was infectious and soon Steve was laughing too.
“Happy buwtday Steebie.” Charlotte said as she hugged him tightly.
“Thank you sweetheart. You look beautiful in your pretty dress.”
“Tank you.” She said before she looked up and saw Bucky walking down the ramp. “DADA!” Leaving Steve completely forgotten Charlotte ran toward her father who also welcomed her with open arms. “Miss you dada.”
“I missed you too, doll. But what are you wearing?”
“Am Captain dada, wike Steebie.”
“Oh this is your uniform. Well you’re the prettiest Captain America I’ve ever seen.”
Charlotte blushes and hides her face in the crook of her neck as she says a little ‘tank you’.
“Mama.” Henry says as he runs past his dad and practically tackles you to the floor. “I missed you so much.”
“My sweet boy I missed you too.” You kissed the top of his head repeatedly while smoothing out his hair. “But did you have fun?”
“So much fun. I have to tell you everything.”
“I can’t wait to hear everything.” You smile before looking up at Bucky.
He looked completely relaxed. It was different from when he relaxed at home. Sometimes he still had a bit of tension in his shoulders but now he looked like a completely different man. You loved it.
“Hi Sugar.” He whispered against your lips before kissing you. “I’ve missed you.”
“I missed you more baby.”
“What about me? Did no one miss me?” Steve says as he walks up to you.
“Charlotte did. Me? Not so much.”
“You’re so mean. Why did we ever become friends?”
“Because you needed someone to teach you about technology.” You say as you hug him. “Happy Birthday Steve. Now come on we made your favorite for lunch. Just the family.” You loop an arm around his and take Henry’s hand as you lead them to the shared dining room.
****
Catching up over lunch had been great. Now you sat in one of the shared living rooms with everyone. Henry sat at your side as he told you about what he did.
“We watched the Star Wars movies. My favorite is Obi-Wan Kanobi. Oh and we got to play with lightsabers and uncle Tony said he was going to make us real ones.” Henry explained to you excitedly as he played with Alpine. You’d never seen him more animated and it made you smile.
“He did?” You asked. It looked over to Tony who wouldn’t meet your eye. “Well I hope he makes me one too.”
“Grandpa and Uncle Sam taught me how to fish. I caught a fish this big mama.” He held his hands a few inches apart. “Uncle Sam said we can go down to his house and do more fishing too. Can we go? Did you know he has his own boat too?”
“I didn’t know he had a boat. But we can plan a trip to go down.”
“Hey Henry,” Cass came up to him. “We were gonna go play outside. Want to come with us?”
Henry looked at you unsure of what to do. You grabbed Alpine from him. “Go have fun. Remember to not go farther than the playground.”
They left after saying a quick ok. You smiled and turned your attention to the couch next to yours where both Bucky and Steve were sitting and listening to Lottie.
“Make A-pine pwetty wit bows. An habe moobie night and go swim too. An uncle Tony gabe toys. Oh mama habe pictuwes. Dada an Steebie habe fun?” She was talking their ears off and they made sure to pay attention.
“Lots of fun but it sounds like you had more fun than us.”
“No habe mowe fun. Missed you.” She leans first into Steve for a hug and then into Bucky. “But is Steebie’s buwtday, can habe fun now.”
“You know what, doll? You are absolutely right. We can have even more fun now since it’s Steve’s birthday. Why don’t we go see if the party is getting started?”
Lottie cheered as she stood up on the couch and hugged Steve again.
“What party?” Steve asked while looking from Bucky to you and then at Tony when the realization hit him. “I thought we agreed on no party for my birthday.”
“I’m not celebrating you, I’m celebrating America. Also it’s Henry and Charlotte’s first time celebrating the 4th of July.” Tony defended, knowing Steve wouldn’t take any experiences away from the kids.
“Yeah Steve, the fourth isn’t just about you.” You added with a smirk. “Let my babies experience this holiday. Besides, Bucky and I have a special gift for you.”
Everyone else started heading outside while Bucky moved to stand with you.
“So Y/N and I have talked about this although it was really a no brainer.” Bucky started.
“And we would like for you to officially be Henry and Charlotte’s godfather.”
“Really?” He looked at you like an excited puppy.
“Of course, we know that you love those kids as if they were your own and they love you too. There’s no one we would trust more with our kids than you.” You say with a smile.
“Other than the whole team.”
“Bucky.” You elbow him but chuckle.
“I would love to.”
Steve stands and scoops Lottie up in his arms. He gives Bucky a hug and then he hugs you.
“It’s the best present ever.”
“Habe pwesent too.”
“You have a present for me, sweetheart?” Steve looks at Charlotte who nods before wiggling out of his hold in order to go get said gift.
“She worked very hard on it over the weekend.”
Steve smiled as the three of you started walking in the same direction Lottie left. You loop your arm around his and smile up at him.
****
Like always Tony went all out for the celebration. The night was buzzing with excitement as music played. People busied themselves with all kinds of entertainment until it was time for the Stark fireworks spectacle. But the most interesting conversation was about to happen at the edge of it all. On one of the benches was Eddie, just watching as his kids and grandkids ran around and spent time together. Bucky approached him and took the empty seat beside him.
“How are you doing Ed?”
“Good. A bit tired is all.”
Bucky nodded in understanding. For a few minutes they sat in silence, both of them appreciating the lack of conversation. But Bucky was a man on a mission and he needed to talk with Eddie.
“I need to talk to you about something, Ed.”
Your dad turned his head slightly to look at Bucky. Half of his face was lit up by the lanterns that decorated the area. Instead of finding a century old soldier, Eddie saw a nervous young man with hope in his eyes.
“Go on then. I’ve told you before I’m here for whatever you need.”
“I want to ask Y/N to marry me but I'd like your blessing.”
“Buck this isn’t the 1930’s, you don’t need my permission. We both know that she’s a grown woman and she’ll do what she wants.” Ed says as he looks back to find you in the crowd.
“I’m not asking for your permission. I’m asking for your blessing. You are the most important man in her life and I don’t want to ask her without talking to you first. I know this is important to her.”
“I’m not the most important, at least not anymore and neither are you.” Eddie looked back at Bucky. “He is.” He said as he nodded toward the crowd.
Bucky turned his head and watched as you ran around happily with Henry. Even in the distance he swore he could hear your laughter as you brought Henry in for a hug after pulling a prank on Steve. His chest swelled with both love and pride that he got to call you his.
“That right there.” Eddie pointed at Bucky’s face. He had a goofy grin as he was watching you and a lightness about him that wasn’t seen when he was away from you or his kids. “That’s why I’ll give you my blessing. You look like an idiot when you look at her and I’ve never doubted your love for my girl. Truth is you’ve made her happier than I’ve ever seen her. You’ve given me a version of my daughter that I’ve never seen before and I’d be an idiot to be against that. You’ve also given me two amazing grandkids. There’s no way in hell I’d miss out on watching them grow up.”
Bucky offered Eddie his hand and the latter shook it.
“You’re a good man Bucky and you deserve good things too. But as father of the future bride you have to know that I’m also an expert marksman. So try some shit with my girl and you’ll never see it coming.”
“If I ever did anything to hurt her or break her heart, I’ll make sure to stand perfectly still.”
Both men nod in agreement just as you walked up to them and took the empty seat between them. You leaned into Bucky but faced your dad.
“We haven’t had a chance to talk.” You told him.
“There’s not much to talk about, Kitten.”
“Dad.”
“I’m ok, the lawyer is handling everything and I haven’t spoken to her since the day at the party.” He waves your concerns away. “When I got home the next day her things were gone. She probably went to stay with her sister.”
“Is there anything you need? Anything I can help with?”
“Not at the moment but I promise I’ll let you know.”
You leaned over and rested your head on his shoulder. Eddie leans down and places a kiss on your forehead.
“You don’t have to worry about me kid. I’ll be just fine.”
“Well I’m still going to worry. You promise you’ll call?” You look up at him through your lashes.
“I promise.”
You sit up and nod even though part of you knows he probably won’t call.
“Daddy it’s time for the fireworks.” Henry calls out.
“I’ll go get the headphones for them.”
“Meet you by the stage.” You tell Bucky as you walk arm in arm with Eddie. On the way you take Henry’s hand and find Charlotte sitting on Steve’s shoulders.
Bucky is next to you in a flash with some noise canceling headphones for both the kids. As the show starts Henry flinches the first few times a firework goes off but eventually is mesmerized by the display of colors.
Tumblr media
Eventually the fireworks ended. A birthday cake was brought out for America and not Steve. Although Tony did tell him to blow out the candles.
It was a perfect ending to a great weekend. In his arms, Bucky held a sleeping Charlotte and you held a sleepy Henry. They tended to get clingy when they were tired but neither of you minded. Instead you appreciated every moment because you knew that one day they wouldn’t need you to tuck them in anymore.
After getting the kids in bed you and Bucky made your way to your room. After a quick shower and changing into clean pajamas both you and Bucky collapse on the bed. He holds you close and kisses the top of your head.
“I missed you. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to sleep away from you for more than a day.” You mutter unto his chest.
“Me either. I was thinking that we should maybe plan a weekend away with just the kids.”
“Yeah, that would be great. We could go up to the cabin or plan something else, something fun. I know dad wouldn’t care if we used the cabin but I’ll look into other ideas.” You ramble on as you relax into him even more.
Bucky smiles as he begins to make plans of his own. The first thing he’ll do is go shop for a ring. Then he’ll have to decide where he’ll propose but most importantly he knows he wants to involve the kids. He knows you’ll love that. You’d probably lose your mind if you saw him and Henry in a suit and tie and of course Charlotte in a dress.
Bucky can feel it deep in his bones. This will be the true start of the rest of his life and he smiles as he finally falls asleep.

Yours and Tommy’s 5 year old daughter Lila watched her daddy play the drums with the look of curiosity on her face. Her toys were long forgotten as she continued to watch him. She dropped the doll she was playing with and stood up from the floor, making her way over to her daddy. Lila tapped on Tommy’s arm to get his attention. Tommy stopped playing the drums and looked down, smiling when he seen his daughter.
“What’s up, princess?” Tommy asks.
“What are you doing?” Lila asks curiously, looking up at her daddy.
“I’m playing the drums. You know that, silly.” He says, playfully ruffling her hair.
“Can I try?” She asks.
“Of course you can!” He says.
Tommy picked her up and placed her on his lap.
“These are called drumsticks.” Tommy shows Lila the drumsticks. “These are what make drums do this.” He taps one of the drumsticks against one of the drums. “Here.” He puts the drumsticks in her small hands. “Give it a try, but don’t hit them too hard.” He says.
Lila listened closely and did what Tommy said. She hit one of the drumsticks against the drums, smiling when she heard the sound of it.
“I did it, daddy!” She says excitedly.
“You did!” He smiles. “Try to do it with both.” He tells her.
She tried it, smiling widely when she heard the sound of it again.
“Now go wild, little rockstar!” Tommy says with a smile.
Lila happily went wild on the drums, being careful to not hit them too hard. She didn’t play them with rhythm, but it’s ok. She’s still learning. Tommy smiles happily. He’s happy, knowing that his daughter learned something new and hopes that she’ll follow in his footsteps when she’s older.
“Lila, Tommy, lunch is ready!” You shouted from the kitchen, thinking they’ll come running like they do most of the time.
After a moment, you furrowed your eyebrows in confusion, wondering why they didn’t come running in the kitchen. You went to the studio and seen Lila playing the drums. You smiled to yourself and leaned against the doorframe of the studio, watching the cute father daughter moment in front of you. After a couple minutes of watching them, you started clapping with a smile on your face. Tommy looked up, smiling when he seen you. Lila seen you too and smiled widely.
“Mommy, daddy is teaching me how to play the drums!” Lila tells you.
“I seen! You did such a great job, sweetie and I think that deserves ice cream after lunch!” You say with a smile.
“Yay!” She cheers.
Lila handed Tommy his drumsticks and carefully slid off of his lap and ran out of the studio to the dining room to eat her lunch. Tommy put his drumsticks away before giving you a kiss. His hands found their way to your waist and pulled you against his body to intensify the kiss.
“Looks like we have a little drummer on our hands.” Tommy says, smiling down at you.
“Looks like we do.” You say, kissing him.
“She’ll be playing drums like a pro by the time she’s a teenager.” He says.
“Tommy, she’s only 5. Her main priority should be Kindergarten.” You say.
“She can still play the drums when she’s not in school.” He says.
“Whatever you say, rockstar.” You say, kissing him again.
Tommy caught you by surprise when he picked you up and threw you over his shoulder and playfully smacked your ass, making you squeal. He carried you to the dining room with you over his shoulder. After lunch, Tommy and Lila went back to the studio and continued to play the drums until it was time for bed for Lila.

Three months later…
Isabella Davis should be happy.
She is living with the man she loves, a powerful man, a hero, the love of her life, Steve Rogers
Isabella Davis has never felt more alone.
Tumblr media
Living with two men was a new experience. The first month went by smoothly with Steve and Belle getting used to each other.  But as the next month started, Steve and Bucky were busy all the time with the business.  While she didn’t regret her decision, she missed her old life.  The ability to hang out without the threat of a kidnapping hanging over her head. And consequently, things had changed again.
Steve has been working hard.  But not at Grant.  No, he left that to Nat and Sam to deal with for the time being.  He and Bucky had been working leads, tiny leads, on who was trying to get to Belle.  Steve wanted to clear every lead, every mere instance of danger so that he could move their lives forward.
Unfortunately, with that, a lot of time was spent away from home, leaving Belle lonely.  But since the dinner a few months ago, Belle had been in contact with her friends.  Not Lila, who effectively blocked Belle from all social media.  Hope and MJ explained that Lila took some time away and stayed with her family, trying to understand what had happen.  Belle was remorseful that her friend was hurt but not for asking her to leave.
But her other friends rallied. Lunch dates with Hope and Scott were planned, dinner and movie nights at Peter and MJ’s were a regular thing.  Clint stayed by her side, but the agreement still stood.  He didn’t disclose the details to Steve or Bucky, just acknowledging she was safe.
On a girls’ night, Belle spilled about her life with Steve.  “He’s so experienced. It’s weird and awesome all at the same time.”
“I bet,” MJ said, drinking her wine.  “Like do you guys experiment?”
Hope giggled.  “That’s the juicy bit.  Scott, he tries, bless him, but we just end up laughing in the end.”
“Peter is flexible,” MJ said.  “So am I. It leads to the neighbors complaining on occasion.”
“Oh god,” Belle covers her face.  “Now I am even more grateful that Steve has the whole floor.”  They all laugh as MJ refills.
Belle stumbles in a few hours later after Clint dropped her off at the door.  She drops her jacket on the floor, the crisp early October air coming in with the elevator.  She kicks off her heels and heads to the kitchen for a snack.  She looks to see that the apartment is still, and she sighs.  She text MJ and Hope.
B: I need a getaway weekend. The apartment is too empty  H: you can always stay with one of us  MJ: true.  Peter is working on a project and he’s flying out of town next weekend.   H: I’m sure Scott can hang with people.  Make it a girls’ weekend  B: sounds good to me.
And it did.  Steve was home Saturday but working and Belle distracted herself with lesson plans.  While she was happy that he was home, she missed the intimacy more and more.  As Friday approached, Belle decides to head to MJ’s early after work.  Steve was on a business trip and hadn’t been in contact.  She had no idea when he was supposed to return.  As she packed her case, he strolled in, removing his jacket and tie.  “Sweet pea?”
Tumblr media
“Oh. You’re back.”  She placed a small kiss on his lips and return to her case.
“Where are you going?”
“To MJ’s. Girls’ weekend.” Belle zipped it closed as Clint appeared in the doorway.  “Can you take this Clint?”
“No problem, Belle.  Be back in a moment.”
Belle turned to Steve who had a look of fury on his face. “What?”
“I figured we would stay in tonight.  I mean, I just got back.”
“And how was I supposed to know that Steve? You haven’t called, text, emailed, carrier pigeon’d.”
“Well, I assumed…”
“Let me stop you right there. I’m supposed to be, what, at your beck and call?” He remained silent. “I’m your girlfriend not your submissive remember? You don’t call or let me know your schedule.  I live here by myself because you and Bucky just leave me here.” Belle grabbed her purse. “MJ and Hope are waiting for me.  I’ll be back on Sunday.  I hope that you had a good business trip.” She swiftly left the room.
Steve sat on the bed with his head in hands as he heard the front door close.  He meant to call, truly, but time got away from him. The last threat he received on her life had set him off and he went to investigate it with a vigor that borderline obsessed. He raked his hands over his face and went to the closet to change.  He donned his workout gear and went to his gym.  Wrapping his hands, he started to work the heavy bag.  This wasn’t the way he wanted to work out his frustrations but here he was.  Bucky walked in; concern etched in his face.  “She’s not here.”
“Thank you, Sherlock, for that fascinating observations.”
“No need to be a bigger punk than normal Cap. I was hungry and went to look for her.”
“She’s at her friends. Apparently, it’s a girls’ weekend.”
“Clint is off this weekend.  Who is her security?”
“Fuck Bucky I don’t know.  I forgot to call her this week.”
“Shit.”  Bucky fumbled with his phone.  “Barton, I thought you were off this week… Yeah well who is staying with Belle. … Oh. … I guess that’s fine. … No, don’t worry about it. Yeah I’ll talk to him. Thanks.”  Bucky ended the call.  “Barton put two of our agents to watch her.  She ran the entire schedule with him just to be sure.”
Steve looked surprised at him.  “She did what?”
“When you and I didn’t answer, she went straight to Clint to organize the weekend.  He swept the place and reminded her that going out without protect was dangerous. I guess her friends felt the same and they were going to stay in. Well except for the club.”
Steve took a harder swing at the heavy bag.  “Fuck! Why are they going to a club?”
“Because she wants to go out. Relax, she’s going to one of ours.”
“Why am I feeling like this?”
“Because you are trying to protect her.  But Steve, you have to know, isolating her, keeping away from her in long periods is just going to damage your relationship.”
“I know, it’s just, I can’t sleep, I can’t concentrate, knowing that there is someone after her. Bucky I can’t lose her.”
“I know pal. But you’re gonna lose her if you don’t get your head outta your ass and spend time with her.  Real time.  I’m cancelling the next intel mission.”  Steve began to object. “Ah, no. You need to spend time with her. She’s the best thing that ever happened to you.  You know, beside the serum.”
“Fuck off Jerk. But,” he sighed.  “Thank you.”
Tumblr media
Friday night was a pamper night for Belle, MJ and Hope.  They watched movies, ate junk, facials, the works.  It helped, getting Belle’s mind off of Steve.  Shopping on Saturday caused everything to come back full force when she went to pay but everything was put on Steve’s account at the store, including anything MJ and Hope wanted. “Fuck,” she mumbled to herself as they walked to lunch.
MJ had heard her. “What’s wrong?”
“Just didn’t think he would be around in any way shape or form.  I miss him but it’s like I only get a glimpse of him.  Not like before where he was always there.  I miss him, you know.”  They slid into a booth at the café.
“Maybe walking out the way you did will trigger something in him.  He can’t keep away all the time Belle.  He has to know that you won’t always be there if he keeps acting like this.”
“I just want to know why.  Like why is he’s so busy suddenly? I know he’s not in the office.  I called to tell him about making dinner a few weeks ago and Nat said he hadn’t been to the office in over a week.”
“Oh shit, Belle,” Hope said.
“Is he over me?  Did I make a mistake?”
“No, Belle…” MJ started.
“Is he seeing someone else?”
“No,” Hope told her sternly. “You can’t think like that.  He’s distant yes but he loves you.  Maybe its Avengers stuff.”
“Its something…” Belle trailed off as she saw a blonde looking right at her.  “Fuck me.”
“What?”
“Its Sharon.  Steve’s friend, I guess.  She doesn’t like me.”  She looks down at her plate.
Hope subtlety turned to look at her.  “She’s a hag.”
Belle snorted.  She looked up and saw Sharon head her way.  “Shit.”
Sharon Carter looked at the group with a smirk. “Isabella, nice to see you again.”
“Ms. Carter,” shaking the woman’s hand.
Sharon waved her hand.  “No need to be formal. Sharon is fine.  Out with friends?”
“Yes, this is Michelle and Hope.”
“Nice to meet you, ladies. “Well, I hate to rush but I have to get back to a meeting at Grant.” Belle raised her eyebrows.  “I was just telling steve we should get together and do lunch soon.  Hopefully we can. Please have a nice day.” She turned, allowing her blonde locks flip around before leaving the café.
“Grant?  She’s at Grant? Lunch with Steve?” Belle swallowed, trying not to let the tears out.  “Fuck this.” She pulled out the black card Steve had given her and paid for the lunch.  “We need to find me a dress.”
Tumblr media
Arriving in the car Clint had arranged for them, Belle stepped out in front of the club, smoothing her dress down. The flirty eyelet dress in black, a V neckline that hinted at her cleavage but still modest. The hem hit mid-thigh and paired with black booties. Her long black hair was swept up into a high ponytail with simple makeup but a dark red lip. Clint reminded her that she was to be seated in the VIP area or she couldn’t go out. She saw the line and felt guilty as she went to the doorman.  “Hi.”
“Name?”
“Belle Davis.”
“For three ladies, VIP?”
“Yea, Clint…”
“I know who you are Miss Davis.  The hostess with take you to your table.” A model like red head took the girls to a table where a bottle of champagne was waiting.  A waitress approached to open and serve.  “I’m Tabitha, your tab is already taken care of by Mr. Rogers so anything you like, including food, just ask.”  She walked away and Hope and MJ looked at Belle.
“Don’t,” she said.  She picked up a glass.  “To us.”
“To us!”
The music was loud and the bodies moving as they chatted.  Finally, Belle was loose and ready to dance.  A Britney classic played.  “Let’s go.”
“Belle…”
“No, I want to dance.  We won’t leave and nothing will happen.  Let’s just go.” She got up and found a spot on the dance floor, swaying her hips to the music.
The music changed; the beat kept going.  The bodies around were glistening with sweat, the smell of alcohol in the air. Belle kept moving, losing herself to the music. They went back to the table occasionally, doing a few shots and kept dancing. A man approached her, dressed in a tight black t-shirt and dark jeans, a chain with a medallion on his neck.  His head was shaved, dark blond or light brown, with bright blue eyes. He offered her a smile, a smile that would make any woman swoon.  “Would you like to dance?”
Tumblr media
Belle looked at MJ and Hope.  Two other guys were chatting them up as she turned back to the man.  “Sure.  Belle,” she extended her hand.
He took it and kissed her knuckles.  “Paul.” He kept her hand and pulled her to the dance floor. Temperature by Sean Paul started to play.  Paul put Belle’s arms on his shoulders, her hands around his neck as he put his own on her hips. Her fingers grazed his hair, an interesting feeling, the fuzziness of his buzz cut compared to Steve’s longer locks. They moved in sync, his eyes never leaving hers, pulling her just a tiny bit closer. As the song changed to Pony, he spun her around, her back to his front. He wrapped his arms around her to keep her close, her hands right on top of his.  His head was near her neck.  “This ok?”
“Its fine,” she said breathlessly. They moved in time; he was grinding subtlety on her. She reached back to feel his head in her hands.  Her thoughts were scattered, the male attention she was receiving was exactly what she wanted.  But it wasn’t Steve. And that was a problem. Because she wasn’t sure anymore if Steve was what she wanted.  His neglect was started to get to her.
“You’re beautiful,” he said in her ear. Another spin and he held her close, both hands now on her lower back, her arms back around his neck, foreheads almost touching. His knee was in between her legs as they swayed their hips to the beat, the pressure of his knee adding to the growing pool of arousal that she was feeling.  A flash from the light over her eyes and he was lost on the color.  “Jesus, those are gorgeous.”
“I…I…,” she was nervous, unsure of the attention.
He stops moving and pushes a tendril of hair behind her ear. “Hey, its ok. We’ll go slow. How about a drink?”
“Sure.” He took her hand and guided her back to her table. She sat with her legs crossed, Paul seated next to her, his arm behind her as she ordered two scotches.  “What do you do?”
“I’m a detective in the LAPD.  I’m in New York for a job interview.”
“Oh, wow.  Detective is impressive.”
“And you, gorgeous, what do you do?”
“I’m a teacher, first grade.”
He flashed her a killer smile. “Shaping the future, I like that.”
In the dark corner of the bar, Steve sipped his drink as he watched her. He was angry.  But not her. At himself.  She wouldn’t feel the need to allow this prick to be all over her if he had been home with his girl.  Something tipped her to this. His eyes followed as Paul took Belle to the booth.  He leaned down to say something and she giggled.  The glass shattered in Steve’s hand.
Belle leaned into Paul.  “I’ll be back.  Ladies room.”
“I’ll be at the bar, gorgeous, waiting.”
She blushed and made her way to the restroom.  She did her business and went to wash her hands and looked in the mirror.  Her cheeks were flush from the dancing and drinks.  But the brightness in her eyes, that was from Paul’s attention. She smiled as she dried her hands.  She fluffed her hair and went back out.  This may only be for one night, but she would enjoy it.
She exited the room and started to make her way back out when a hand grabbed her and pulled her into a room.  She went to scream but was cut off by a kiss.  She pulled back to slap but stopped.  “Steve?”
“What are you doing Isabella?”
“I’m dancing.”
“You’re flirting.”
“And?” Belle challenged him.
Steve grasped her arm. “You are mine, Isabella.”
She pulled away. “Really?  Sure doesn’t feel like it.”
“Why are you doing this?”
She glared at him.  “Why is Sharon Carter having meetings at Grant?”
Steve stepped back.  “What?”
“Why is Sharon Carter at Grant?”  Steve hesitated.  “Right, ok. I have to go.”
“No, wait, sweet pea, please.”
“No.  Fuck you, Steve. Leave me alone. We’ll talk about this tomorrow when I come home.”
“No, you’re coming home with me now.  You are mine.”
“Yours?  Really?  I spend more time with Clint than I do with you.”
“I know, baby, but…”
“No buts.  I can’t do this right now.”  She pushed him away.
“No, I can’t lose you.”
“Then maybe you shouldn’t have shut me out.”  She exited the room and went to the bar where Paul had moved to.  She was rattled, shaken to the core at the exchange with Steve.  She loves him, truly, but she needed more.  She needed him to be present.
Paul could see the cloud in her eyes. “You ok?”
“Just too much to drink, I think.” She gave him a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
He signaled the bartender.  “Water, please.”  He turned back to Belle.  “I gotta be honest, gorgeous, you seem like you have a lot on your mind.”
“I’m sorry.” Belle looked down.
Paul studied her for a second. “Whatever he did to you, it ain’t worth it,” he said, picking up her face. Belle stared into Paul’s eyes and watched as he flicked his eyes to her lips and back.  She swallowed hard, he leaned in, and she closed her eyes. Their lips met, softly, his lips warm, comforting.  It jolted Belle and she stepped back with a jerk.
“I’m sorry, I can’t.”  She turned around and went back to the booth quickly.  She saw the security guard and called him over.  “We need to leave.”  He nodded and made a call.  “Guys, we have to go.”
MJ and Hope could see the panic in Belle’s face. They grabbed their bags and helped her to the exit.  The town car pulled to the curb and the girls climbed in.  Paul hit the exit just as Belle was climbing in.  “Gorgeous wait!”
She looked at him, smiling sadly and closed the door.  They headed back to MJ’s in silence, Belle staring out the window.  As they pulled up to the building, Belle made a decision.  “Guys, I’m going to the apartment.  I’ll explain later but I need to see Steve.”
“Give him hell,” MJ said with a hug. Hope hugged her as well.  The driver took off to the apartment.  She went in to find it dark with a single light on, Steve sitting in his chair.
“You’re back.”
“I am.”
“Why?”
“Because when another man kisses me and I like it, I think we have a problem.”
“He kissed you?!”
“Yes, and I ran.  Because I liked it. Because I miss you.  I miss your attention, our intimacy, our love.  I need more Steve.  I can’t do this.  If you are just going to leave me here, then I should move out and move on.”

Summary: On 4th of July, Yelena finds herself celebrating the weird holiday at the Barton Family farm in Missouri. She can’t understand this feeling deep within her chest whenever she looks at you. Maybe her dreams of having a family may come true and they may start with you.
Warnings: Mention of the Red room
Word count: 1.8k
Yelena found herself on the porch of the Barton house, looking out towards the yard. Sam was on the grill arguing with Bucky about who knows, Yelena did like to watch as Sam got under Bucky’s skin. They were cute together. Wanda was helping Laurie set up a picnic table, using her magic to put the table cloth on and the plates with silverware. The red of her magic still amazed Yelena and it kept the younger children entertained for hours. Kate and Cooper were messing with a box of fireworks a little to close to a bomb fire while Sarah and Lila were in the house, preparing the rest of the food. Yelena was a little hesitant to accept the invitation to spend 4th of July with the Bartons. It took Kate, Wanda, and finally Natasha to convince her to come. Natasha slipped that you would be there, spending time with your family after school was done. You were who Yelena was watching. You were entertaining Nathaniel, AJ, and Cass with your powers to keep them out of the way of the adults and away from the fire. You could change into any animal and could use those animal’s abilities as your own. Right now you were a squirrel, climbing up and down the three boys making Lucky and Fanny bark and chase after you. Fanny got you pinned to the ground and you changed back, you laughed at the dog’s confused expression. The sound of your laugh caused Yelena to smile.
‘Your starring sestra.’ Natasha said, sitting on the railing. Yelena scuffed, rolling her eyes.
‘Like you haven’t been undressing Wanda all day.’ Natasha shrugged looking at her girlfriend.
‘She looks good.’ Natasha waved at Wanda. The young witch waved back, her cheeks blushing, no doubt reading Natasha’s mind.
‘Disgusting.’ Yelena mumbled, her attention was brought back to you. You were a German Shepard puppy. Nathaniel was holding you as you attacked his face with kisses. He was shirking, moving his head from side to side trying to dodge you. Finally, he put you down on the ground and changed back, whipping the dirt on your hands on your ripped jeans. ‘Am I allowed to look at her like this? After everything I’ve done. She’s just so nice to look at.’ Natasha smiled at her younger sister.
‘Why don’t you tell her how you feel?’ Yelena looked at Natasha with wide eyes.
‘No I’d never say a word.’ You were sitting on the grass with Nathaniel, AJ, and Cass in front of you. You were telling them a story. Yelena couldn’t hear what you were saying but you were energetically talking with your hands. A tightness built in Yelena’s chest. It was a feeling that was constant every time she was around you and it was something she’s never felt before. She never imagined a family of her own one day. For a large part of her life, she believed she would never be able to leave the Red Room. But after she was given the red dust, she was reunited with her sister, and together they took down the Red Room for good -anything is possible. Yelena pointed to her chest. ‘There is an ache but it feels oddly good.’
‘Love, sestra . You found love for the first time of your own free will.’
‘She means everything to me.’ Yelena confessed. She was shocked by the words that so easily left her lips. She looked at her sister, waiting for a rejection. But Natasha had a smile on her face.
‘Tell her,’ Natasha said simply. ‘She is a Barton. She will understand what we’ve been through better than anyone.’ Natasha placed a comforting hand on Yelena’s shoulder and joined her girlfriend at the table.
Just tell her, Yelena thought, shaking her head. As if it was that easy. Yelena believed that every time you stood next to her you could not be more far apart. It was as if Yelena froze when you were close. She was afraid to say the wrong thing, afraid to push you away. She was still learning how to be a ‘normal’ person. It was why she spent so much of her time with Widows that she freed - they understood the struggle of trying to find their footing in a world that they were deprived off.
‘She likes you.’ Yelena jumped from the sound. She spun around seeing Lila, who had her arms crossed and a smirk on her face.
‘It is not good to sneak up on an assassin.’
‘Ex-assassin,’ Lila clarified. ‘Besides, Aunty Nat taught me a lot.’ Lila shrugged like it was no big deal. Yelena cruised in Russian as Lila ran down the steps to join her siblings. She felt someone staring at her, the hairs on her neck were standing up. She glanced around the yard, everyone was busy doing their own thing. Until her eyes landed on you. You were sitting next to Kate, who was talking but your attention wasn’t on the burnette as she was speaking. Yelena’s eyes locked onto yours. You gave her a smile, blushing slightly at being caught, and returned your attention back to Kate. Yelena chuckled, shaking her head.
Yeah, she means everything to me.
*
The problem with it being a holiday and this being your first time home in a while, everyone wanted your attention. Kate took you to the makeshift archery range that Clint built earlier this year. Lila talked your ear off about all the plans she had this summer and a boy she liked in her class. When everyone was eating, your mom nagged you about your plans when the summer was over which caused the entire table to get involved in the conversation. Yelena watched as you tried to disappear into your chair. The sun finally set on the Barton farm and Yelena sat on a blanket, watching Kate, Clint, and Cooper get the firework show ready. You were standing next to Nathaniel, helping him make a s’more. Once the s’more was constructed, you took a bite of it, and handed the rest to your brother. Yelena couldn’t help but wonder what the taste of your lips or how they would feel against hers. Would they taste like a birthday cake from your chap stick? Or story time? Or fall? Yelena almost laughed at how soft she felt because she knew to you she tasted like nothing at all.
You walked over to her, pointing to the empty spot next to her, asking for permission to sit down. Yelena nodded. You sighed as you sat down and handed her a sparkler. You lit yours with a lighter and used yours to light hers.
‘How was your first time celebrating the 4th of July?’ You asked her. All the reasons why her day was great died on her lips.
It was amazing because you were here.
You are the only reason I came.
Please see me how I see you.
‘It’s a weird holiday.’ Yelena said. ‘Was Steve Rogers actually born on July 4th or did they change it when he became Captain America?’ You laughed.
‘No I think he was born on the 4th. His birth certificate is on display at the museum.’ Yelena rolled her eyes. She found that hard to believe.
‘Birth certificates are easy to forge.’
‘That was such a spy thing to say.’ The sparklers had long since gone out but Yelena kept it in her hand, twirling it between her fingers. You watched with fascination.
‘Now without the audience of the entire party, what are your plans once the summer is over?’ Yelena found herself asking. You sighed, leaned your head back, and looked at the stars. Yelena followed your gaze up to the stars. It was an amazing view. The air wasn’t as polluted as major cities and there weren't as many lights to obstruct the view of the stars.
‘I don’t know.’ You finally responded. Yelena almost forgot she asked a question, she became so focused on looking at the stars and listening to the sounds around her. ‘May go back to the city or travel the world. What about you? Any more Widows to save?’ Yelena shook her head.
‘Natasha suggested I take a break and live my life. So I guess I’m listening to her.’
‘What are you going to do?’ You asked. It was Yelena’s turn to sigh as she moved her fingers through the grass. It was wet from the dew but the feeling helped ground her.
‘I’m not sure. I’ve always had a mission, a job, or an order to follow. I don’t know what to do with my life.’ A stretch of silence passed between the both of you. It wasn’t awkward, it was comfortable. Yelena could see that you were biting the inside of your cheek
‘Well,’ you said softly. ‘I could use a travel buddy and my dad may feel better if I was with a trained Black Widow when backpacking around the world.’ For a split second, Yelena wasn’t sure if she heard you correctly.
‘You want me to come with you?’ You nodded, biting your lip
‘Unless you don’t want to’ You stuttered out. ‘I mean you seemed like you weren’t sure what to do. And I like hanging out with you even though we don’t do it often. I think it could be fun. Unless you don’t think it would. So please don’t-
‘I would love to join you.’ Yelena said, cutting you off. Your eyes went wide but you relaxed at her response.
‘Cool.’ You watched the fireworks exploding in the sky but felt Yelena looking at you. ‘Do I have something on my face?’ You asked, laughing. Yelena didn’t say anything right away. She was trying to memorize the way the color from the fireworks lit up your face. The way the fire created shadows. You did have something on your face, a little bit of chocolate from that s’more you helped Nathaniel. But Yelena didn’t care.
‘You are just so nice to look at.’ You looked at Yelena.
‘Lena.’ You say softly.
‘You mean everything to me.’ Yelena said quickly, before losing her nerve. ‘You smell like lemongrass and sleep which makes me feel safe and reminds me of home. It scares me that I could feel that way about someone. And.’ Before she could finish you surged forward connecting your lips with hers. The sudden impact stunned Yelena. As her brain started to register what was going on, she kissed you back, putting her hands on your waist pulling you closer. You tasted like apple juice and peach with a hint of chocolate from the s'more. It was a taste that Yelena knew she was going to be addicted to. Yelena ended the kiss as she needed to breathe and didn’t want to start making out with you in front of your family. She kept your lips inches from hers and she felt your breath on them. Your lips were a little red as you smiled. ‘What’s got you smiling like that?’ Yelena asked. Your smile only grew bigger.
‘Just excited to see the world with you and kiss you while we see it.’ Yelena pulled you under her arm, kissing the top of your head. Oh she was excited too.

Locked Up, Chapter 14
Word Count:  1.7k
Warnings:  mentions of a riot.
Tumblr media
“Hey doc…”
You frowned, seeing the tired expression of the man sitting on the stool by the metal detector.
“Wh-where’s Bernie?” you asked gently, curious about the disappearance of your favorite guard who sat at the entrance of the jail.
The man frowned, “hospital…critical condition after the riots.”
Your heart ached for the older gentleman who had normally sat down at the entrance to the prison.  He’d been retired from the force for nearly fifteen years and had taken what he thought was a cake-walk of a job by sitting at the metal detector for a prison.
All too often you’d had conversations about how he was excited to get home to his wife, or have a day out with his grandchildren on his next day off.
“Oh…”
“They put him in a medical coma last week…too much swelling in the brain.  Surgery relieved some pressure…” he offered sadly.  But then he shook his head, “but they don’t think he’s going to come out of it.  Daughter’s been talking about pulling the plug on the poor guy.”
You gasped, saddened by the news that a man that had dedicated nearly his whole life to law enforcement was going to have that type of ending, “oh my…”
“Yeah,” he sighed, “Agnes isn’t holding up too well…not with his daughter making that suggestion…”
“That’s horrible.”
“It is…but it’s also a hazard of the job.  Just because he was out here, didn’t mean he wasn’t going to be in the line of fire if something like this ever happened,” He shrugged, clearly not too hung up on the idea of a riot in the prison or it’s unfortunate casualties, “you gonna go through, doc?”
“Oh-yeah…sorry…”
He nodded and you passed through the detector.  Taking your name badge and purse from the tray that you’d originally put it into, you slid the bag over your shoulder and your badge on your jacket, “I-I guess I’ll see you later…ha-have a good day!”
“Yeah,” he muttered more to himself than anyone else, “have a good day doc!”
“Thank you…”
You walked in relative silence, your mind way too focused on what had happened nearly two weeks ago to focus on anything else.
How things had managed to turn sideways so quickly was not only jarring to you, but it made you consider your own position.
You had been a new-hire, and the events were traumatic enough that while you were an experienced psychologist, you hadn’t been well versed in the tragedy of a riot, so you had to undergo extensive psychological testing and then a few bouts of defensive training in a prison while they transferred in another set of shrinks to talk the inmates through everything.
But then your mind wandered to Bucky and Curtis.
They had done so much for you during the course of the riot.  They had protected you.  Made you feel safe…but they’d also set their boundaries, letting you know just where you fit into their lives.
And you hadn’t rejected it.
“Doc!”
You were surprised to see the familiar face, “Viv?  Wh-what are you doing here?  I thought-“
“Came in to pick up my last paycheck,” she admitted, cutting you off, “Y-you’re coming back?”
You nodded, “Yeah…I am.”
“Good for you…” she said after a second, “you know…you’re one of the few women coming back.”
Your brow quirked, “What?”
“Well, after the riot ended, a few women decided they were better off going to a minimum-security prison, or transferred to county…I-well…I’m pursuing other options…and I’m sure that you know of Lila by now…”
“It-it’s my first day back.”
“Guess Hansen wasn’t blowing smoke up our asses when he’d scream that he was important,” she smirked, “government wiped his and Jensen’s records and pulled them both out at the end of the riot.  The three of them disappeared together.  No one knows where they are.  My guess is the psycho has his little play things holed up somewhere while he’s off planning the next global disaster.”
“H-How do you know that the government pulled Hansen and Jensen?” you asked softly, “I-I mean, you know Jake.  He’s smart enough to wipe the records.  Inmate Hansen could have formulated an escape with-“
“I saw the letters to the new warden.”
You frowned, remembering how Inmate Drysdale had killed the previous warden.
Ransom Drysdale.
“How is Ransom?”
She caught on to your tone and she chose to ignore it, but sent you an icy look regardless.
“I hear that he was vindicated,” Viv shrugged, obviously not wanting to admit that she had a relationship with the inmate while still inside the walls of the prison, “he’s been proven innocent once and for all…he’s not a murderer…”
“You mean, he didn’t kill his grandfather…”
“That’s what I said,” she said with a shrug as she looked at you, “unless…you know something?”
You shook your head, looking her directly in the eye, “I don’t know anything.”
“Hmmm..” she nodded thoughtfully.  The two of you stood in silence for a few minutes before she gave up, “well…it-it was good seeing you…”
“Yeah…” You nodded softly, “you too, Viv…”
“Now as some of you know, there has been a turnover with the warden!” A few of the people coughed, showing how uncomfortable they felt with the governor discussing the warden’s demise, “a few weeks ago, during the riots, Warden Bodecker was murdered.  Since all of the cameras were off, and there was no power inside of the facility, we do not know how this managed to happen or even why, but we can only assume that it was because of a vendetta that an inmate had against him.”
A few more awkward coughs.
Everyone knew that Warden Bodecker was a mean, controlling son of a bitch.  Just like all of them had known that he was fucking Viv on the sly.
So, they all knew, at least in part, that one of the inmates had murdered him in cold blood, and it was because of Viv and they had the slightest inkling that it had to have been one of two men, one of which was already outside of the prison walls, and his family had been the one to help secure the position for the new warden in question.
“While our staff has been most amazing at running the prison in lieu of an actual warden, I am happy to tell you all right now that we no longer require those services as we have found our new warden!” the governor smiled, clapping at his own introduction, “he’s one owner of one of the largest tech conglomerates in the world.  Billionaire philanthropist, Tony Stark!”
There were a few scattered claps throughout the breakroom, as a man in a pristine pin-stripe suit stood up and took off his sunglasses.
You watched him for a second, and it was like he was personally surveying each and every person.
And then his eyes landed on you.
You felt like your blood was turning to ice in your veins.
“First off let me just say that I am sorry for your loss!” he said firmly, leaving a few seconds to pause for good measure.  He crossed his arms over his chest and began shaking his head, “you know, when I first saw this prison on the news, I knew that there was something going on…but I didn’t-I didn’t think the problems were as deep as they really were.  I say this with all respect to your previous boss, but the riot and the blood spilled was because of him.  There have been inmates in here that were wrongfully accused and mistreated, men turned to savages because of outdated policies, and atrocities committed under the watchful eye of Lee Bodecker!”
There were a few mumbles amongst the group as officers and administrators wondered just how much the tech mogul knew.
“Our prison system has not only been failing the inmates…but the people working in them,” he said with a shake of his head, “all of you were stretched so thin, that when push came to shove, and a riot happened, you lost valuable members of your team because of understaffing, limited training, and no real hazard pay or benefits to make up for just how much of a dangerous place it is to work in.  But I wat to change that.  I want to re-incentivize every single one of you and turn this place around for the better…so that all of us can remain safe and well paid for it.  I know that this place may be a prison, but we’re here to rehabilitate these criminals.  And I think we can only do that when each one of you are supported.”
The governor smiled behind him.
You felt your stomach turning.
“I know that some of you may be skeptical about me…but know that I am here to help,” Tony pointed out, “That doesn’t just start with my words.  I want you to know that all of the testing and training that each of you have been undergoing is because I care about your emotional, mental, and physical well-being.  That wasn’t just training to have under your belt because of the tragedy that happened.  That was one of the new policies I put in place to make sure all of you are taken care of in every way possible.”
Someone raised their hand and Tony shook his head, “no…no…you don’t need to raise your hand.  You.  With the question.  What is it that you need?”
“I’ve been a CO for nearly five years here…what makes you think you can change any of this?”
“I can see the hesitation in you, officer.  I understand what you’re thinking and the skepticism.  People don’t just do things for no reason,” he chuckled, shaking his head, “good question though.  I think that the inmates had a bad reaction to something going on here.  I think that changes need to happen in order to change the attitude of those involved.”
“But how?”
“Well, first…I’m installing cameras that work without power here.  They have their own individual power sources, and the information gets stored on the cloud.  I’m also adding in different types of activities and jobs for the workers, with higher paying premiums.  But only those who score high enough and are well-behaved will have the opportunities.  And lastly, I’m taking care of each of you.  The training.  The trauma counselors…all on my dime.  I want to take care of each of you.”
“What’s in it for you?” another person asked softly as they put their hand down, “Wh-why are you doing this for us?
“Because I can.” He said firmly, giving him an iron-clad stoney look, “and because I’m Tony Stark.  And I care!”

Life in seclusion had been going perfectly splendid for Bucky and (Y/N).
They quickly settled into a peaceful routine and were happier than they could have imagined. The couple was thankful for Clint and his family, their companionship being a breath of fresh air from the choking atmosphere they had with Steve around.
One of the welcomed scenarios was experiencing Bucky in a fatherly role. On the occasion that Clint and Laura wanted a day off or a simple dinner, the Barton trio would stay at their cabin. At first, he had been terrified of being left alone with the kids for even a split second. He was mostly scared of Nathaniel. Being the youngest of the three kids, he was prone to some tantrums which would put Bucky on edge. The first time the kids came over, the man stood behind (Y/N) the whole time and barely spoke. Over time, with the help of the Bartons and (Y/N), the man started trusting himself with the kids.
Cooper, Lila, and Nathaniel were none the wiser of the older man’s fears and anxieties. They loved spending time in the couple’s house, many times begging their parents to have sleepovers at their aunt and uncle’s home — a request Clint and Laura were happy to grant. Especially after Laura gave birth to their fourth baby eight months after Bucky and (Y/N) had moved into the cabin, a little girl they named Natasha.
After getting used to older kids, Bucky’s confidence was buried six feet under when introduced to little Natasha. The day Laura came around with the small child in her arms, the man lost all color on his face.
“Come on, babe,” (Y/N) encouraged. “Here. Why don’t you seat on the armchair with your arms crossed and I’ll place her there?”
“But you can’t leave my side, okay?” Bucky’s voice trembled. From the kitchen, Clint and Cooper snickered at the grown man. “Don’t laugh you guys. I don’t want anything to go wrong.”
“Alright, boys. Behave,” Laura threatened lovingly. “Now, don’t worry, Bucky. You’re gonna be great.”
(Y/N) took the baby girl in her arms, cooing at the newborn. Since retiring, her mind had flooded with thoughts of having a family — a family she would share with the man that had taught her what true love was. All she could think of was little Buckys and little hers running around the big house. But she didn’t know if that was something Bucky would ever want.
She walked cautiously to the trembling man, making sure he could see every movement she was making. He would jump at any sound Natasha would let out, scared of what it could mean. (Y/N) sat on the arm of the chair and lowered the baby onto Bucky’s arms.
“Shouldn’t you put a blanket on her? My arm’s gotta be cold.”  He stiffened when the baby was placed on his metal arm.
“Darling, I’m sure the baby’s okay.”
“She likes the cold, actually,” Laura interjected, trying to provide a sliver of comfort. “She’s probably enjoying that.”
Bucky looked down at the infant in his arms and his whole demeanor changed. His eyes grew warm, and small droplets of water were puddling in the corners of his eyes. (Y/N) heart melted as she witnessed the scene, her wishes for a family only growing stronger.
Until the baby started to whimper, possibly in time for feeding. “I think that’s my cue. I’m sure I did something wrong.”
“She’s probably just hungry, Buck,” Clint spoke. “There’s no way you could have done anything wrong just sitting there.”
“Even though she started crying as soon as she’s in my arms,” Bucky protested. He motioned to (Y/N) to take hold of the baby and get as far as he could. “I’m good.”
“You’re just hungry. Aren’t you, Nat?” (Y/N) whispered as the baby started to cry. “Let’s get you to mommy, huh? Yeah, let’s go.”
“Any place I can feed her that’s a bit quieter?” Laura asked.
“Yeah, let’s go upstairs,” (Y/N) smiled at the mom. “By the way, guys. There are fresh cookies in the jar. I know you’ve been dying to get them.”
“Thanks, (Y/N)!” The three older kids yelled out before turning to beg their father for more than one each.
Laura followed (Y/N) up to a spare room, Natasha already quieted by her feeding. “I guess you haven’t told him then?”
“What could have given you that impression, Laur?” (Y/N) joked, closing the sheer blinds to diffuse the sunlight that was flooding the room. “I haven’t had the chance. And judging from his reaction to baby Nat, how could I drop this on him? What if he doesn’t want this baby?”
“(Y/N), in three months your belly is going to start showing and there’s not hiding it from him after that. This is the best time to get him acclimated to having a baby around,” Laura rationalized. “Do you want  to have this baby?”
“I really do. I think I’m just scared that Bucky will reject me and the baby.” (Y/N)’s eyes betrayed her and formed tears that spilled from her eyes. This was the first time she had voiced the worry she felt since finding out that she was pregnant.
“Oh, honey. I hope you believe me when I say that that man loves you unconditionally. The love and affection he displays, even when he simply looks at you, is something people only dream of. I’m sure that as soon as you tell him that you’re expecting, he’ll be overjoyed,” she beamed. “Even if he’s scared at first, I know it comes from a place of care and love. And, anyway, you’ll have a few months with Natasha to practice. He’ll certainly learn how to care for a baby.”
“I hope you’re right. Cause I don’t think I could handle that heartbreak.”
“And you won’t have to, (Y/N). I know Bucky will be happy about this,” Laura solaced the crying girl. “If you want to trust a single thing I ever say, believe this. So, tell him soon, please.”
“I will. Soon enough.”
It wasn’t until a month and a half afterward that the topic of babies floated around their house. Clint and Laura had asked for the couple to care for the kids for the weekend as they went away on an anniversary outing.
For the most part of the two days (Y/N) took care of baby Natasha, Bucky nominated himself to care for the older kids. She tried her best to push her boyfriend to get acquainted with the baby, but he always had an excuse. And she was growing discouraged that he would welcome the fact that they were bringing a new life to the world.
Until Sunday night.
Although she had been the one waking up during the night to care for Nat, she had not heard the baby cry until later. From their bed, (Y/N) heard a commotion from the baby cam. On the screen, a scene was unfolding that brought the woman to tears.
Bucky had baby Natasha on his right arm bouncing her up and down as he held her little hand with his metal one. The baby was cooing happily at the man, a smile painted on her face.
“You’re not so bad, are you?” Bucky spoke through the monitor, unknown to him that his partner was witnessing everything. “I wouldn’t mind having a couple like you around here. I mean, a little one just like (Y/N) would be an absolute dream. And look at me now — all calm, cool, and collected. I could get used to this.”
The baby let out a happy squeak and Bucky smiled, believing this was confirmation that he was doing a good job. After a warm bottle and a couple of minutes of bouncing, baby Nat had fallen back asleep. He was cautious as he placed the baby into the cot, making sure she was comfortable and warm before heading back to his room.
He grew worried when he heard sobs coming from their room, alarms ringing knowing (Y/N) was in the room. Inside, his girlfriend was holding the baby monitor in one hand and a tissue in the other. She sniffled loudly as she wiped away the big streams of tears.
“Darling, what’s wrong?” Bucky ran to her side, taking her hands in his and rubbing her knuckles. “Is the baby okay?”
“Yeah, she’s fine. Sleeping peacefully,” she smiled. “It’s just I heard what you were saying through the monitor, and I couldn’t help but get emotional.”
“Oh, doll. Come here,” he wrapped around her. His arms encircled her perfectly, the back of her head landing on his chest. She was comfortable… happy… safe. “Is there something else that’s going on, (Y/N)?”
“Now that you mention it, there is something I have been meaning to tell you,” she whispered. Bucky could tell she was nervous but had no theories of what it could be about. He had learned to not jump to conclusions – his brain programmed to believe the worst-case scenario. “I’ve been wanting to tell you about this, but I haven’t known how to or how you were gonna react. And we’ve built such an amazing life already here, and I didn’t want to jeopardize this, and…”
“You’re rambling, darling,” he chuckled.
“I’mpregant,” she spoke quickly and a little over a whisper.
“What?” He had made out exactly what she had said, but he needed verbal confirmation of what she had said.
“I’m pregnant. Two months now, to be exact.” (Y/N) bit down on her lip, still dubious of how he would react now that it was real.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah. Laura took me a few weeks back to her doctor and she confirmed that I was in fact with child.” She played with Bucky’s fingers awaiting a response, too anxious to look into his eyes. “What are you thinking?”
“What could I think? We’re going to be parents!” Bucky hugged her tightly, falling back onto the bed with her on top. He flipped her over and planted a kiss on her lips, a smile on both of their faces. “I’m gonna be a dad, (Y/N).”
“And I’m gonna be a mom.”
“The best mom ever.”
“You think?”
“I know so. I’ve seen you with Barton’s kids and how much they love you. I know our kid will love you even more than those kids do.”
“And I’m sure you will be the best dad ever.” She kissed him, noting the doubt in his eyes. “Even if you don’t believe me, I know this kid is gonna be so lucky to have you as their dad.”
“How do you know?”
“Because I know you, Bucky. Because I see you – who you were, who you are, and who you will be. And there is no doubt in my mind that you have what it takes to be an amazing parent,” she reassured. “And we always have Clint and Laura for help. They have extensive practice.”
They both laughed before Bucky kissed his partner softly. Staring into her eyes with the same lovable gaze he always held exclusively for (Y/N). His right hand caressed her cheek, peppering kisses across her face. Whilst the kids were at home they wouldn’t engage in a higher level of intimacy, this was the closest thing to physicality they would partake in.
“We’re going to be amazing parents,” Bucky reaffirmed before they both drifted to sleep.
That had been four months back, now (Y/N)’s belly had sprouted, and the evidence of pregnancy was noticeable to all that saw her. During those months Bucky used all the babysitting time he could get with the kids to practice caring for children. On the off times, he’d continuously pick Clint’s brain on what having a newborn would be like. If there was anything he’d be sure to do, it was to be well informed.
It had already been a year and a half since they had moved to the cabin, loving every second of the time they had away from the chaos of being an Avenger. Wanda, Bruce, and Sam had come by as often as they could, only bringing stories of their pastimes and no word of missions was ever uttered in their home. The last time they had visited Bucky and (Y/N) they rejoiced in the news of her pregnancy. She had only started to show but she wore form-fitted clothing that showed her growing bump. Wanda would call every day she could to ask how (Y/N) was doing, living vicariously through the life she had dreamed of through her friend. Bruce would check in on how the baby was doing medically, curious about how Bucky’s super serum would affect the offspring. On the other hand, Sam would tease Bucky on how he went from assassin to Avenger to a diaper-changing dad. It was all in good fun and he always ended the jokes by stating how proud he was that his friend had been able to turn his life around regardless of his past.
Bucky wouldn’t say it, but the support from their friends had helped calm the anxious voices in his head that told him that he wasn’t good enough to be a dad – that somehow his past would catch up to him and all that he had now built with the love of his life would crumble. In time he learned to accept who he had become, in spite of who he had been. Gaining the smallest boost in confidence – enough to ease his parental panic.
A couple of months had passed since their last visit, and the couple understood why. But they had promised that soon enough they’d be popping in for a much-needed visit. It was a weekend during her seventh month of pregnancy and the Barton kids were once more spending the days in their home, Laura and Clint on a getaway.
Bucky was in the backyard with the older kids and (Y/N) inside cooking and looking after 8-month-old baby Natasha when a knock resounded on their door. She set the mac and cheese in the oven and grabbed hold of the girl, balancing her on her hip. (Y/N) was hoping that their friends had finally had a day off and had come for an impromptu visit.
“Who’s at the door, huh? Could it be auntie Wanda? Or uncle Bruce, or uncle Sam?” Natasha squealed in response as (Y/N) opened the door. “Steve.”
Had she not been holding the baby up, (Y/N) was sure she would have fainted. It had been such a long time since Steve Rogers had crossed her mind, he seemed like a distant memory and her brain had worked well to repress his memory. But here he was, standing before her as if everything that had happened between them was all a dream.
“(Y/N), can’t believe how much time has passed,” he breathed out. “Is she…?”
“She’s Clint and Laura’s.”
“Oh, but you’re expecting.”
“Why are you here, Steve?” She was growing impatient, anger bubbling in the pit of her stomach. “And how did you find us?”
“May I come in? Please,” he asked – although it sounded more like he was begging her. “I promise I mean you no harm.”
“I guess,” she spoke with her back molars. (Y/N) didn’t understand why she was allowing him access to their sanctuary, but alas he was already inside. “Just so you know Bucky is in the backyard.”
“I promise I come in peace, (Y/N). I just want to make things right.”
“Alright, sit.” She guided him to the couch in the living room, placing Nat in her bounce chair.
“How far along are you?”
“Seven months now,” she sighed loudly, rubbing her temples. “Cut the chit-chat, Steve. Why are you here?”
“Right, I came to explain my behavior from so long ago. I have to admit I wasn’t myself.”
“What do you me…?”
“Hey, (Y/N). You mind getting the kids a couple of water bottles they haven’t stopped for a…” Bucky interrupted the conversation, crashing in through the back door. But his step turned cold when he saw a figure from his past. “What is he doing here?”
“Bucky, it’s good to see you.”
“Can’t say the same for you, Rogers. But you haven’t answered the question. What the hell are you doing here?”
“I only came to talk. Explain why I have acted the way I have. Please, I just want a minute of your time.”
Bucky was suspicious of Steve’s intentions, but (Y/N) assured him they could lend an ear to whatever explanation or excuse he wanted to purge.
“Hey, Coop!” Bucky yelled out to the oldest Barton from the backdoor. The boy came running up and grabbed the three water bottles the man had separated. “Keep your siblings out here for a bit. If you need anything call out before coming inside, okay?”
“Is that…?” Cooper peaked his head slightly through the door, noticing the infamous Captain America in the living room.
“Yeah. It’s a long story, just keep your brother and sister out there for a little bit.”
“Okay, uncle Buck.” The older kid didn’t understand the situation but was aware of the tension between the three adults.
“The kids should be getting tired soon, so speak quickly. Yeah?” Bucky sat next to (Y/N), putting an arm protectively around her. She could tell he was irate. His nostrils were flared, and his right hand was strained in a painful fist; his breathing was heavy, and his gaze was burning. She placed a hand on his thigh and drew shapes on it to attempt a calming touch.
“Well, firstly. I’d like to apologize for the pain I have caused the both of you in the past.”
“That’s fucking grand. All is settled then, right?”
“Buck,” (Y/N) calmed. “Let’s just hear him out for a sec, yeah?”
Bucky nodded in agreement. “Go on.”
“It’s no excuse, but I wasn’t in the right mind,” Steve continued. “Banner noticed a few weeks after I went back to the tower that I wasn’t acting like myself and started digging. Without my knowledge he started monitoring my brain activity and did some blood work, claiming it was routine. It took some time but noticed some strange markers in my lab results and grew concerned. Somehow, he was able to figure out that when I went back in time there was some time that was unaccounted for in my head and as he did more research, Banner was able to deduce that I had been brainwashed while in the 40s – possibly taken by HYDRA agents but was able to escape somehow. I have yet to regain memory of what actually happened during that time, but my head was still tweaked when I came back to this time. And the way I treated you both and your relationship was horrible. I just wanted to apologize, honestly, for what I did.
I don’t expect you guys to forgive me or allow me to be back into your lives, but I wanted you both to know the Steve that came back wasn’t the same one that had left. I am happy that you’ve found solace in each other and are building a life together. All I’ve ever wanted was the best for you both. Even if for a second it didn’t seem like I did.”
The couple was dumbfounded. It took a couple of silent minutes for the information to be digested. Bucky knew what it was like to not be in the right mind frame. Being a victim of brainwashing himself and knowing how easy it was to lose yourself, he believed the story. But forgiving the man for the hurt he caused (Y/N) was another story – he wasn’t sure if he could ever do it.
“Yet you weren’t brainwashed when you decided to leave,” (Y/N) choked out. She sat up from the relaxed position she had been in, Bucky placing a comforting hand on her back. He knew she was close to crying and didn’t want her to feel alone. “Your brain was in your full control when you made the choice to stay in that time… when you tasked Bucky to deliver your letter… when you chose to lie to me after five years together. What’s your excuse then? Fine, when you came back you were acting impulsively, under the control of whatever it was that they did to you – I understand that. What I can’t wrap my head around is the fact that you chose to break my heart and rely on your best friend to be the messenger. How could the Steve Rogers we knew, and loved, do that?”
“I will never have a valid excuse for hurting you both. I felt like I deserved to be selfish after caring for others for so long. And maybe that pain could be eased by taking back the life I would’ve had if I didn’t crash back then.” Steve wiped away stray tears that had fallen – they didn’t deserve having to see him cry and he didn’t want them to pity him either. “Again, I understand if you can never forgive me – if this is the last time I ever see the both of you again. And if there’s anything you take from today, I hope you believe how much I did love you. I desisted of the idea of being with Peggy until the chance to go back to her arose. The whole time I thought of you and the pain I caused you. I mourned the life we were building, and I hated myself for being the only culprit in all of this. When I came back, I knew you deserved better, better than me, and anything that I could ever give you. That’s why I stayed away for a long time.
Until I saw you with the better you deserved — I got jealous, and I was hurt. Jealous that I wasn’t man enough to give you that happiness. That I believed my happiness was rooted in a different time when I had found it with you and threw it all away. And I know I had no right to be hurt, but he was my best friend, and you were the woman I was in love with. And the first time I saw you both together something was triggered inside my head, and I changed into someone else completely.” (Y/N) could see Steve was flustered. He was talking in circles, trying his best to explain a situation she didn’t believe he yet comprehended fully. Bucky, on the other hand, was less sympathetic. Anger was still boiling inside him, and the only reason he was keeping himself from punching Steve in the face was to not fluster his pregnant girlfriend. “Anyways, all in all, I’m happy you guys got together and are building a beautiful life. (Y/N), I will always love you and I’m grateful for the five years we were able to share together — I wouldn’t change that time for anything. I’ll always regret not coming back to you like I said I would. And Bucky, to me you’ll always be like a brother and I’m thankful you were in my life for the time that you were. I love you both and I hope you’ll continue to live a wonderful life. Again, I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness, but I apologize from the bottom of my heart for everything I did to you both.”
Steve stood from the couch, not another word to be spoken, wiping tears from his eyes. (Y/N) had let small tears fall and Bucky just sat motionlessly. Steve had unloaded so much information in such a short amount of time that their brains seemingly were malfunctioning. The man exited the house swiftly, leaving the pair with their thoughts.
“He can’t go yet,” they both talked at the same time.
“Rogers! Wait,” Bucky stood up, running to the front door to catch Steve’s attention before he got into his car.
“We’re not done yet,” (Y/N) joined him seconds after, motioning to Steve to come back.
“Look, I think I speak for the both of us when I say that we can’t trust you right off the bat,” Bucky looked at (Y/N) and received a smile and a nod as confirmation that they were on the same page. “But we can try getting back the friendship. It won’t be the same as before, but maybe taking one day at a time we can rebuild our relationships.”
“Only if you’re both okay with that? I know it will take a long time to build back those bridges, but I want nothing more than having you both back in my life.”
“Alright. We’ll take it slow. But so help me god, Rogers, the first fuck up and you’re out. My job is to protect (Y/N) and our baby. So, if you hurt them in any way, I’ll make sure you regret it. Got that?”
“Absolutely. Everything will be on your terms and if at any point you feel like it’s time to end it, I’ll comply.” Steve was fighting the huge smile that was threatening to fuse to his face. His actions took him to lose his family, and today he got back the hope of having them back in his life. “You will not regret this. I swear.”
“We better not, Steve,” (Y/N) warned. “The stakes are higher this time. If you screw up this time, you’re out. Forever.”
“I understand. Thank you, guys.” Steve finally allowed himself to grin a little, the joy he was feeling too much to contain. “And congratulations on the baby. I’m sure they’ll be a beautiful kid.”
“It’s a boy. We’re having a boy,” Bucky informed. “We’re actually having a baby shower next weekend and we’d like to have you here.”
“Wow, that’s amazing. I know you’ll both be great parents,” Steve smiled finally. He wanted to go up and hug them, show them how ecstatic he was that they were both happy. But he knew he couldn’t cross boundaries before they gave the go-ahead. “I’ll be here.”
“Thank you, Steve. Drive home safe, yeah?”
“Yeah, thanks. I’ll see you.”
Bucky wrapped his arm around (Y/N) as they watched Steve drive away on the dirt road still unsure of what unfolded in their living room. It had been a short conversation and somehow they had resolved all the issues that had dug themselves between them. Only time would tell if forgiveness was a route they could go down on.
“What just happened?” (Y/N) questioned, taking the dish of Mac and cheese she had placed to bake into the oven. “Are we sure that just happened?”
“I don’t know,” Bucky chuckled. “I’m still as confused as you are.”
“I just hope this is truly the beginning of a healing journey and not another detour into chaos,” (Y/N) voiced her fears. She wanted to believe Steve was bound by good intentions, but his past actions had instilled a deep-rooted apprehension. “But for now, let’s just give him the benefit of doubt and see how it plays out. And call Sam, he’s gonna be pissed that we invited Steve. If there’s anyone holding him at an arm’s length more than us, it’s him.”
“Yeah, bird brain has become very invested in our relationship.”
“Sometimes too much,” she laughed. “Coop, Lila, Nate! Food’s ready!”
The three kids came running when they heard their aunt’s voice through the kitchen window. They were drenched in sweat, cheeks red from the sun. Nathaniel’s hands were covered in mud, leaving streaks on his face as he wiped away the sweat. The three of them were quick to seat on the stools of the kitchen island, ready for their plates of mac and cheese.
“Uh, what are you guys doing?” (Y/N) questioned.
“It’s time to eat,” Lila spoke, confused at the question.
“Guys, you just came from outside. Look at Nate,” Bucky pointed. “He’s covered in mud. Wash your hands and faces first.”
“Okay, dad,” Cooper laughed, sarcasm dripping from his tongue.
“Dad, huh? I like the sound of that,” (Y/N) kissed Bucky’s cheek. “Soon enough we’ll have our own kid talking to us like that.”
“And I can’t wait.” He wrapped his arms around her again and placed a kiss on her lips.
“Guys, gross.” Cooper grimaced, his siblings imitating his features. “We’re trying to eat here.”
“Okay, mud face. Clean up your face and then you can eat, alright?”
The three kids groaned but eventually, they did as told. (Y/N) couldn’t help the smile that plastered on her face. A few months ago, Bucky had been paranoid about becoming a father, but his parental instincts had come into full swing since caring for the Barton kids. It was a shift in his life he had not anticipated.
For the rest of the day, Bucky and the kids finished playing outside. At one point the three of them were hanging off Buck’s metal arm as the man effortlessly carried them. Happy tears left (Y/N)’s eyes as she witnessed the scene. In a short amount of time, they would have their first child and take the first step into having moments like this with a family of their own. After all the heartbreak and pain they had endured, their life was finally looking up.
Once the moon had risen, it was time to put the kids to sleep. They went down easy, too tired from the day to fight bedtime. Bucky turned off all the lights in their rooms and made sure the heating was controlled. The house was big enough to allow each kid to have their own guest room, with no quarrel over who got what room and who had to share a space. (Y/N) had just finished a bedtime story with Nathaniel when Bucky peaked his head into the room to turn off the lights. The little boy was fast asleep on her arm, clutching onto the woman’s pajamas.
“Seems he doesn’t want to let go,” Bucky smiled. “Can’t say I don’t blame him.”
“Hand me that bear over there, will you?” She pointed at a small bear that rested atop the dresser next to the door. Bucky tossed it her way, hoping she was able to catch it with one hand and minimal movement. Which, as a trained agent, (Y/N) was able to. “Now, let’s switch my PJs for the bear. And I’m free.”
She kissed his forehead and joined Bucky’s side after turning off the light of the room. The exhausted pair made their slow walk to their room, crashing on the bed as soon as they were inside.
Bucky wrapped (Y/N) in his arms, her head resting on his unclothed chest. She drew circles on it, her attention on the racing thoughts from her brain.
“What’s running through your head, doll?” He ran his right hand through her hair, noticing his girlfriend’s spaciousness. “Thinking that hard will give you a headache.”
“We’ve never talked of this, and I don’t want you to feel like you have to talk about this if you don’t want to, but how bad can the brainwashing be?”
“Are you sure you want to know about it? It’s not pretty.”
“Our job has never been pretty,” she chuckled. “I guess I just want to understand what could have made Steve do what he did. You’ve known him longer than anyone has, and you were surprised at how he behaved when coming back.”
“Well, it’s hard, if what happened to him was in any way like what happened to me. You lose your real self inside of yourself. Your brain only works to do whatever it is you are programmed to, but your conscious brain is stuck in the back watching as your body works like a robot. You do things, say things that are unnatural to you, but you still have to do them,” he sighed. Bucky’s eyes were pooling with tears, thinking of his past was an activity he refrained from to maintain his mental state. “Your memories haze, making you unsure of what’s real or not. It’s hard afterward to determine if you’re clean. Anything could trigger the washing once more – for me, it was the phrase. Thanks to Shuri and T’Challa in Wakanda, I was able to regain my brain once more. But I still had the memories of everything I had done. Just because I wasn’t myself didn’t mean I didn’t do the actions.”
“So, you’re a prisoner inside your own head, watching what you’re doing without being able to control how you react?”
“Exactly. It’s like you’re watching a movie and yelling at the characters, but they can’t hear you.”
“Then Steve couldn’t control what he did and what he said? When he came back, he wasn’t the same Steve that left,” she contemplated. “Maybe he does deserve our forgiveness. In time, we could go back to the friendship we used to share.”
“Maybe he does,” he agreed. “When I was finally free of the brainwashing, I could barely live with myself for what I had done. But I knew I needed to make amends, not for others but for myself. I knew not everyone would be able to forgive me, but I needed them to know the full story before judging my actions. What the people did afterward was out of my control, as much as I wanted them to forgive what I had done.”
“We take it one day at a time, then. Slowly start introducing him back into our life, trust that he won’t bring chaos back into it.”
“Okay, we will. We start this Sunday, yeah? I’m not gonna lie I’ve missed the idiot we knew,” he chuckled.
“Yeah, I missed him too.”
It had been a busy week in the couple’s household. Laura and Lila had come over every day to help out with everything (Y/N) could need for the baby shower whilst Bucky and Clint cleared out one of the rooms to transform it into a nursery. But the girl was growing exasperated, with her growing belly standing for more than five minutes becoming too exhausting. She couldn’t help in the ways she wanted – no running around with the kids, no painting the nursery because of the fumes, no standing for too long in shops to buy decorations or ingredients for the food.
“I know that face,” Laura spoke. “You want to do all the things you could do before your belly grew and your feet swelled. You’re growing frustrated that you can’t stand for too long, you have to pee every five seconds, your back hurts – you can’t wait to feel like you used to feel.”
“Right on the spot.”
“I’ve been there four times. It gets easier to handle after the second one – getting used to needing help and staying on the sidelines. We’re here to help you, your job is to delegate now.”
“He’s coming today,” she blurted.
“Steve?”
“Yeah, he sent his RSVP as soon as the invitation was sent out. He told us what happened when he went back in time, how he wasn’t himself when he came back.”
“But something in you still doubts that he has changed.”
“I’m scared of what bringing him back into our lives could cause. It’s too unpredictable.”
“Trusting someone usually is. But don’t trust him, trust yourself – your instincts. They have yet to steer you wrong,” Laura smiled. “Now let’s get you ready. Your guests should start arriving soon.”
She helped (Y/N) get dressed, the girl too tired to do much by herself. In times like this, she was grateful that Clint and Laura lived so close by. They had the time and experience to help (Y/N) and Bucky learn the ropes of life outside of the Avengers. Had it not been for them, the girl was sure they would have gone back to work a month into retirement.
Three o’clock had hit when the first person arrived. From his tours around the galaxy, Thor had been the first one to arrive other than the Bartons. He landed somewhat gracefully on the front lawn, leaving a mark on the freshly cut grass. The kids ran to the blond, the man carrying them all in a hug. The god said hi to Laura and Clint after, then Bucky, and finally (Y/N).
“Lady (Y/N), you look as radiant as ever.” He hugged her softly, worried about hurting the baby somehow. “You’re going to be an amazing mother.”
“Thank you, Thor. It’s great to see you again.”
“I’ve brought this for the little one,” he beamed. Out of a bag, he pulled a black and gold dagger, beautiful engraving on the handle – not apt for a baby. (Y/N)’s eyes grew big in astonishment. “He’ll grow into it, obviously.”
“It’s gorgeous,” she chuckled. “I’ll display it in a protective case for the time being.”
“You can put a picture of me next to it, so he knows his uncle Thor gave it to him.”
“At least it’s not a weapon that’s determined by your worthiness,” laughed Sam as he walked up to the party. “Although I have no doubt that baby Barnes would be more than worthy in the eyes of all Asgardian weapons.”
“Sam!” (Y/N) wrapped her arms around her friend, welcoming him once more to the house. Then directed her attention to the redhead that walked behind him. “Wanda! Oh, I’ve missed you guys.”
“We’ve missed you too. I have to say, I much prefer you as a partner,” she whispered. “But Sam will do.”
“Where’s Banner?”
“He’ll be arriving with Pepper and Morgan.” Wanda stopped for a second, unsure if she should announce the arrival of the other guest. But if he had been invited by the couple, they would have already known he was coming. “And Steve too.”
“I know, Wanda. We invited him. He came by last week, and explained the situation. We’re giving him the benefit of doubt.”
“Should’ve told me that before I went off on him,” Sam interjected. “I suggest you refrain from printing any unedited pictures with him in them. Don’t think the kid will want to have a reminder that someone had a shiner on his baby shower.”
“Sam,” (Y/N) reprimanded.
“Sorry, no one told me we were giving the man a chance.”
“Bucky was supposed to call you.”
“I forgot?” Bucky shrugged. “It’s been hectic, and it slipped my mind.”
“Great. He’ll be grateful for that,” she chuckled.
“Let’s go to the back while we wait,” Laura smiled. “I didn’t spend all this time decorating to be stuck on the porch.”
The group headed inside, trailing too many bags of gifts to the backyard.
It was the first time that (Y/N) had seen the work everyone had done that week. Tears formed in her eyes as she saw everything come together. There was a long table under a pergola the boys had built, decorated with white flowers and beautiful table settings. The sage green color she had chosen for her baby’s nursery popped on the white plates as perfectly folded napkins. It was simple, beautiful, and familial.
Laura instructed the guest to leave the bags on a designated table as Bucky led (Y/N) to the big peacock-style chair at the head of the table. She could tell her partner was nervous, and fidgety over small details since this morning. But the reason why was unknown to her. Everything was perfect.
The kids had brought out some platters with appetizers, helping out their mother as she put the finishing touches on the food they’d be consuming later. The boys were the first to dive into the food, then the men — each with a bottle of beer in their hands. Wanda laughed at the sight as she sat next to her friend, a glass of water in one hand and a glass of rosé in the other.
“You’d think they haven’t eaten in days,” the redhead laughed.
“Some things never change,” (Y/N) joined. “So, you and Sam seem friendly.”
“There’s nothing there, my friend. He’s a great man — reminds me of my brother,” she smiled. “But don’t avoid the elephant in the room. Steve was invited. Why?”
“Full disclosure, we missed him in our lives.” Wanda raised an eyebrow. Who would miss the person that destroyed them? “Don’t get me wrong, we missed the Steve we used to know. The Steve before the brainwashing fiasco. It’s hard to just cut him off when you know he’s been through such a hard time by himself.”
“You’re a big girl, (Y/N). As much as I may oppose it, I trust your decision. I just don’t want you to go through the same pain you did back then. You’ve allowed your heart to heal but those wounds are still fresh enough to reopen at any point.” Wanda put her hand over her friend’s. As someone that had witnessed firsthand (Y/N) going through the five stages of grief, she wouldn’t need too many reasons to remove the man from their lives. She cared for the girl like a sister, and she protected her family. “But today is a happy occasion. And I won’t let him sour my mood because we are celebrating my godson.”
“Thanks, Wanda,” she smiled. “I love you and I love how protective you are. Now let’s eat something.”
As time trickled by, more guests arrived at the ranch. Everyone had gathered once more, this time for a celebration of life – the Wakandians and the Guardians were represented; Peter; Carol; Happy; Rhodey; Steven, and Wong; Hank and Janet were with Hope and Scott; and Maria and Nick decided to join the party.  Each of them had worked at some point with (Y/N) and Bucky and held them in high regard. Everyone had been excited at the news that they were expecting and they had promised to attend this celebration no matter what.
Their backyard was filled with lively chatter. Old friends catching up on their extraordinary missions or training, on their love lives and for some the lack thereof, on their families. It was a beautiful sight to behold. The world’s mightiest heroes all met up at the same place being normal people – no expectations, no one to save.
But all chatter ceased when Steve Rogers walked through the doors after Pepper Potts and her daughter, Morgan. All heads turned at the man that had betrayed his best friend – there wasn’t a soul there that hadn’t heard of Steve’s, Bucky’s, and (Y/N)’s situation.
The man went beet red when all eyes fell upon him. He understood why everyone would give him the cold shoulder, judging his presence at the event. And he felt he owed everyone an apology.
“I know Steve’s appearance at the party is surprising,” (Y/N) interrupted the choking silence. Bucky joined the woman’s side, wrapping an arm on the low of her back. “But Bucky and I have decided to give our friend a second chance, and we hope you do too. He’s explained his situation to us, and we feel he is worthy of another chance.”
“Thank you, (Y/N),” Steve stammered. “I know the actions in my past have been questionable, and that regardless of the situation, I hurt two of the people I value the most in my life. Their forgiveness is simply the first part of my redemption. I know it may be too much to ask of all of you, and I’m not saying you have to give it, but I beg your forgiveness. I am trying my hardest to put my life back on track and would love nothing more than to have my friends back in my life. Even if it takes forever.”
“I’m sure it won’t take that long, old friend.” Thor’s laughter boomed across the vast field joined afterward by the scattered laughs of the rest of the group. “Now, we can really start the festivities!”
The air around the party felt different now. Everyone felt more comfortable and was able to truly enjoy the beauty of the event. They played cringy baby shower games – chugging baby bottles, guessing the baby food, eating chocolate off a diaper. They ate and drank to their heart’s content. They talked, they sang, they danced. Hours and hours of interrupted happiness and joy, something they hadn’t had in years.
“I’d like to say a few words.” As they all sat around the dinner table, under the light of enchanted candles, Bucky stood with (Y/N) and called for attention. “I haven’t led the easiest life – much a lot of you around here – and for the longest time, I believed I was meant to live in that darkness. I could have never imagined that I would ever see a happy ending. But (Y/N) blew away all the dark clouds and made way for the light. (Y/N), everything we have gone through had led us to today, and I wouldn’t change a single thing. Every day that passes I choose you and I’ll continue to choose you and our little family.”
Bucky cleared his throat and knelt before the woman. Quickly, her eyes welled with tears and various gasps sounded across the table. “You all know I’m not one to talk much, so I will keep this short. Had I not had you in my life, I’m sure I would still be the scared and brooding man that I was years ago. You make me want to be a better man – a man that deserves you and our son. I would love nothing more if you would do me the honor of continuing to walk this life by your side. What do you say, doll? Will you marry me?”
“It took you long enough,” she cried as she jumped into his arms, placing a kiss on his lips. “Yes, yes, and forever yes. I will marry you.”
The crowd burst into applause and cheers as Bucky slid a beautiful diamond ring onto (Y/N)’s finger. Congratulations and finallys flew across the table, everyone ecstatic that their friends were finally getting the happily ever after they had worked so hard for.
Laura and Clint, the two people that had known of this surprise, had already opened bottles of champagne for the group and were serving it around, handing the pregnant girl a glass of sparkling cider.
“I would also like to say something,” Wanda spoke. “I propose a toast to our newly engaged couple. I don’t know two people more deserving of a happy ending than these two. I’ve fought beside them, cried beside them, and smiled beside them. (Y/N) took me in when I was by myself, she made me feel like part of her family after I had lost mine. You are more than a friend; you are my sister. And you, Bucky. I have thanked you before, but not a day will go by that I don’t continue thanking you for making (Y/N) the happiest I’ve ever seen her. You stood by her in her darkest time and gave her all the love and compassion she needed to cross that pond. There is no doubt in my mind that you two were always meant to find the other. And not only will you tie your life in marriage, but you will also be bringing new life to this world. So, raise your glasses to the soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. Barnes and the parents to my godson. Cheers!”
Everything had gone perfectly. All the scattered puzzle pieces were falling into place for (Y/N) and Bucky. Their Steve was slowly coming back to their life, they were living a safe and tranquil life, and they were expecting their first child. There was no doubt in (Y/N)’s mind that she had made the right choice by choosing James Buchanan Barnes to march alongside in life.

Theatre - Bucky Barnes
A/N: Just a little something before Christmas - I was watching Hawkeye. That damn musical...
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x female reader (ft Clint Barton)
Words: 1100+
Tumblr media
It was weird, that was obvious. Why did they have to come to the show? It was a stupid idea that some of her relatives had – a nice show before Christmas, as they would say.
“Your little cousin wants to see the play about your heroic friends,” her aunt would say. “You can always bring your boyfriend with us,” she gave her a big fake smile. “If he’s not too busy being grumpy and murdering people.”
Y/N knew how some of them felt about Bucky. Some of them couldn’t understand him and his past – like her aunt.
“Oh, I don’t think that is a great idea,” she shook her head. “You see, he’s too busy saving the world as am I and doesn’t have time for this bullshit.”
“Nonsense, it’s Christmas time. I think we should spend it together and get to know each other. I have tickets for the Rogers musical,” she said with her cheery voice. “And I have a ticket for your boyfriend. I want you two with us and have a nice evening.”
Y/N rolled her eyes. “First, you make a snarky comment and now you want us to join you?”
“Do it for the boys if not for me,” she said.
And that’s how she ended with him sitting in the theatre, watching the damn musical. Both of them were staring at the show uncomfortably. Seeing Steve and Natasha dancing and singing made their stomachs turn. Natasha was her best friend and Steve was his. Now, both of them were gone. It brought them some pain.
Y/N reached for his metal hand and squeezed it. He immediately did the same. It was a simple sign that they were there for each other. “Your aunt must really hate my guts,” he whispered into her ear which made her startle a bit. “She knew damn well what would do this to me.”
“Well, she hates both of us, obviously. This wasn’t a good idea. I’m so sorry,” Y/N shook her head and leaned against his shoulder. “Thank you for doing this. I know that this is traumatizing and ridiculous.”
“Shit,” he gasped. “It’s about to be even more,” he pointed at the scene where an actor who was playing him appeared on the stage as the Winter Soldier. The wig, and the fake arm it was terrible but they brought back some old memories.
Y/N looked at her aunt that had an evil grin on her face and gave her a stink eye. It was all on purpose – that evil bitch. “If she wasn’t my aunt, I would break her nose,” she whispered to him.
The next few scenes were about Steve saving Bucky as the Winter Soldier and again, Ant-Man was part of it. Why did they put that guy everywhere? “The fuck,” Bucky whispered, confused by the scene. “They obviously don’t know anything about us.”
“No, they don’t,” she nodded. “They know nothing about us.”
That’s when Y/N, or the person who played her, came on the scene, ready to kick some ass – or not. She was ready to flirt with everyone. Instead of portraying her as a woman with incredible power, they turned her into a slut. At first, her character was hitting on Steve, then Sam and even the fucking Ant-Man that wasn’t supposed to be there. But the best came later when she finally ended up in Bucky’s arms after they tried to kill one another.
Of course, they knew about them thanks to that one picture that the paparazzi managed to get when they were together and managed to hold hands. Everything that was happening in the scene never happened, but they had to put their romance there.
Y/N sighed and shook her head in disbelief. That’s when she saw someone familiar two rows ahead of them. When he stood up and left the seat, she knew it was him.
“Clint’s here with his kids,” she whispered to Bucky. “Listen, this is making me sick. Let’s go.”
“I’m more than happy to leave this place,” he nodded and together, they stood up and left.
The timing was perfect because as they went to take their jackets, Lila ran out of the theatre hall, looking for her dad.
“Y/N?” she stopped in her tracks, shocked to see dad’s friend there. Before anyone could react, she ran towards her and hugged her tightly. “What are you doing here?”
“Eh, my aunt wanted to torture us, which she did, successfully and now we are leaving,” she explained to the little girl. “I saw your dad. Is your whole family here with you?”
Lila turned her head and looked at Bucky. “Hello, Mr Barnes,” she greeted him politely.
“Call me Bucky,” he cleared his throat.
“Maybe your dad is outside,” Y/N pointed at the entrance door. “It’s been a while since I saw him, well, everyone, honestly,” she gave the girl a smile.
“Aunt Y/N?” a voice interrupted them. Nathaniel and Cooper left the theatre hall as well. Before they know it, he was immediately on her, hugging the woman tightly. Lila used the opportunity and left outside to find Clint.
“Hey little fella,” she ruffled his hair. “Did you like the show?”
“No,” he shook his head. “It was stupid.”
That made Bucky laugh. “I couldn’t agree more.”
When they left the building, they were met with Clint Barton who was talking to his daughter. He seemed distressed – who wouldn’t be after that performance?
“Y/N!,” his face lit up. “What are you doing here?”
They ended in a tight friendly hug. “Ah, my aunt wanted to see this sh…” she looked at the children around her and gulped the rest of the word. “To see this show. Terrible, by the way.”
“Why would you go to this show?” Clint was confused and shook hands with Bucky.
“Her aunt gave us an evil Christmas gift – tickets to this show. She hates my guts,” Bucky commented and put an arm around Y/N’s shoulders.
“And mine too, as it turned out. I think Santa will give her a dead rat under the Christmas tree,” she grinned like a devil.
Nate gasped, shocked to hear such words. “Why would Santa do that? That’s mean.”
No one dared to comment on that. Clint simply hugged his son and laughed. “Hey, we were about to get something to eat. Would you like to join us?”
“Oh, please,” Lila jumped happily. “It’s been so long, Y/N.”
Bucky looked at his girlfriend and tilted his head. “We have some time,” he replied. “We’ll be leaving New York tomorrow morning, so we can get something to eat. I am starving.”
“Chinese?” she suggested.

The Avengers stayed silent after Detective Jessica Jones and Agent Johan Collins left the floor. The deafening silence wasn’t because they had nothing to note about the hours they spent with the kid assassin; but, rather, it was because they had a lot to note. Everyone simply just couldn’t settle which one to say first.
"I like her," Pietro Maximoff was the first one to break the silence. "Kid, I mean."
"She does seem like a good kid," Sam Wilson indirectly agreed. "Even with the whole ‘programmed to kill’ thing."
"It took a lot of strength resisting her trigger like that," Bruce added. "She was in a lot of pain, almost like it was slowly killing her."
They all saw how the twelve-year-old looked when she was fighting her programming. She was trying her hardest to hide it, but they all still saw right through her. Mostly because the intensity of the pain must’ve been too much to hide effectively, even for a well-seasoned agent. Although she did seem to feel better after napping and reuniting with her fellow assassin, the pain notably came back with a stronger force once she laid her eyes upon her targets once more.
Regardless of how tormenting it was, Johan still fought anyway.
"She’s too young to have gone through all of what she did," Clint lamented.
Out of all of them, Clint was one of the two people with an understanding different than the rest. Sure, Natasha, Bucky, and the Maximoff twins understood in depth what it was like to be experimented on. And the others could only begin to imagine how difficult her life was, as her struggles greatly differed to theirs.
But Clint and Scott Lang were the only ones who understood how young she was. "Kid’s only three, four years older than Cassie. Jesus."
"She’s around the same age as Cooper and Lila," Clint nodded, his expression stayed crestfallen.
The Avengers fell silent again after that remark.
They all had the opportunity to meet the three children mentioned, along with the youngest Barton kid Nathaniel. Cooper was the oldest of them and yet, he was still far too young. Not that there was an appropriate age to be traumatized to the core, but the point still stands: Johan Collins was far too young to be an assassin with post-traumatic stress disorder.
"Tony, what are you doing?" This time, it was James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes who interrupted the silence. Had he not done that, then his best friend in question’s actions probably would’ve escaped everyone else’s notice for another five more minutes. However, since he did, they all turned just in time to witness him open the S.H.I.E.L.D. database in a holographic screen.
"Researching," Tony Stark replied simply, before typing: Johan Collins.
"Invading privacy, you mean."
"Only if I can actually find info on Kid." His hands began moving faster as he maneuvered the holograms in front of him. Everyone unconsciously held their breath as they anticipated a wall full of her information to pop up any second. Except . . . "Rogers, did you just jinx it—"
"What—"
"—I’m assuming you did." He cut Steve off before the latter could even defend himself. "Are there any other ways to spell her name?"
"Try ‘Anastasia Stark,’" Natasha suggested. Tony followed through. Unfortunately, the screen still came up blank. "‘Anastasia Collins’? ‘Johan Stark’?"
"Boss, you have a new message from Director Fury," FRIDAY announced, effectively halting Tony’s so-called research.
Everyone suddenly looked at him expectantly, silently urging him to read the message out loud with their eyes. "What did he say?"
"‘You aren’t authorized to see Collins’ data. Stop snooping.’"
Tumblr media
Much to Director Fury’s chagrin, Tony merely took his message as a challenge. Unfortunately for the challenger, though, he still failed to uncover anything regardless of whatever offense he threw at the S.H.I.E.L.D. database.
By the time he ran out of all the system offense he knew on top of his head, the blank screen was mocking him.
"What is S.H.I.E.L.D. hiding?" He blurted in frustration, mostly to himself. "Barnes has a profile, so why doesn’t she?"
"What are you trying to find, anyway?" Bucky spoke up. "Maybe I can answer."
"Jones was obviously avoiding to mention something. I want to know why."
"I can give you more than that." Wanda, who had been awfully quiet since Agent Collins and Detective Jones came to the common floor, finally contributed to the conversation. "I can show them to you."
"You went inside her head?" Pietro looked at her in slight disbelief. "What did you see?"
Contrast to her twin’s reaction that had a hint of curiosity in it, Steve’s response wasn’t relatively as excited. "Wanda, we’ve talked about this."
"I didn’t force my way in. She was thinking very loudly." That would’ve been a weak attempt at defense if it really was one, except she wasn’t actually defending herself. "Kid kept on thinking about one memory in particular." She was merely stating facts as they were. "It answers the ‘why’ Stark wants to know and more."
Wanda let her words sink in. "Fine. Let’s see it."
"Only if we could help her see her father." Wanda bargained out of the blue — albeit as if that was her plan all along.
No one could read what she was thinking. Not even her twin, who knew her more than anyone else in the room, could decipher her expression.
"I can’t promise you that," Tony’s reply was almost immediate. "We can’t afford to expose a civilian to an unpredictable, amnesiac assassin suffering from PTSD."

Like imagine a few years later, Buckys doing better and you’re back in the US. he looks different now though you haven’t changed much and he DEFINITELY remembers you. He repays you for plums with a coffee date 🥺
Also SERIOUSLY MISSED YOU ❤️

There’s a plethora of things Bucky Barnes can and can’t remember, but if there’s one thing he could remember, it would be that he’d forever remember the warm inviting smile that radiated from you every time he’d pass by the fruit and veg stand. Ripe plums he’s weakness and the way your laugh would simply make him melt into a puddle of the shadow of a man he thought he was, his absolute kryptonite.
“Three words you associate with happiness” Dr. Raynor would ask every so often during Bucky’s court mandated therapy sessions. Bucky would hesitate, one word would always come to mind. Nothing else, just one simple word:
“Plums—”
“Why plums?” Raynor would ask with a puzzled face, trying her best to chip away at the concrete walls reinforced with industrial strength steel beans Bucky had put up years ago to protect all that was left of himself. Bucky would remember your smile, the plum vendor, the bright smile of gorgeous eyes that saw straight past the way Bucky would blend into the crowd. You brought him to the surface with the ease of small talk and the tastiest plums Bucky could ever crave.
“They remind me of home.”
“And where would home be for you James?” Bucky didn’t want to open a can of worms by mentioning the small period in his overextended life where he’d met a girl who sold plums at her grandmother’s fruit and veg stand while on expat to Romania on a working holiday teaching English to the next generation of the world’s best and brightest. No. because then he’d be stuck in this god-awful office being grilled about how he wasn’t trying hard enough to assimilate to a life post Steve Rogers, post Hydra mind control, post blip.
“Wherever the hell my heart is I guess.” From time-to-time Bucky wondered where in the world you ended up. If you’d followed the developing new stories of his manhunt through to streets of Bucharest, the short answer was yes. Yes, indeed you did.
……
“Mum I’m fine, I promise.” You tried you best of try and convince your overdramatic mother over the phone that you were in fact, keeping you shit together after your very long-term relationship just ended. “Who needs men, honestly? What are they even good for these days anyway/” you chuckled under your breathe, walking through the park as you spoke to the woman you stived to be like growing up. “I’m just going to be that cool hip aunty that doesn’t have kids but always knows how to pick an excellent bottle of wine for the family events, I got this all figured out trust—"
Bucky, for some reason or another, perhaps by the grace of some God that saw pity on him, did see you, crashing straight into you as he took to the pathway that snaked through the park serpentine stile. Taking you down with ease, crashing to the ground on top on you. Fumbling around like a wild animal.
“Oh shit—” Bucky gasped, as he tried to protect your fall, cupping your head so that when you hit the deck it wouldn’t be painted with brain matter. “I’m so sorry are you okay? I’m sorry I just didn’t see you, kinda just came outta nowhere.”
“Don’t be, there was no other way I was getting off that phone call—" you sighed as Bucky pealed himself from you, standing to his feet before offering you a hand. Pulling you up with ease to your feet to meet his panicked gaze. “I’m—” you didn’t even have a chance to introduce yourself before the memories of the handsome mystery man came flooding back. Not so mystery anymore, more like, pardons hero. “James?”
“Lila?” Bucky couldn’t feel his heart, it was almost as if it had stopped beating. He knew what that felt like, the shock of electricity that would bolt through his veins. The way his teeth would crack under the pressure and the pain. This though, this kind of heart skipping a beat, for you he’d experience this over and over without question. “You sold me plums in Bucharest—”
“I did!” you beamed as you dusted yourself off, admiring the man who stood before you. He looked like he’d seen the world and then some. But even then, youth was on his side, for 106. “I thought I’d scared you off when you never came back, my plum sales were practically non-existent after you vanished into thin air.” You admitted. “But then I saw the news—” the tone you used frightened bucky for a second. How could you even bare to look at him right now, knowing who he was, what he had done. “I started looking into you a little more.” You trailed of for a moment, shily, almost embarrassed to admit it. “I mean I always knew deep down I was attracted to older men but 100 was pushing it even for me—” you got him, the way Bucky couldn’t hold back his laughter, it was instantly addictive.
“You were the only person I spoke to for months before Steve and those army guys destroyed my apartment.” This wasn’t the time or place to admit that you were the first women to help bucky explore his desires after years of torture. But as Bucky could sense the conversation fading, he couldn’t let you slip away. “So, uh hey do you wanna get like a coffee or something soon sometime maybe?” It felt awkward to ask, he felt awkward, but everyone from Sam to Dr. Raynor was telling him to get out there.
“I uh—” looking down at where a diamond ring once wrapped delicately around your left ring finger, you sighed, pressing your lips together with a leap of faith that maybe this could be it and that everything happens for a reason. The bubbling jealousy still there as you struggled to love yourself. But with the way Bucky looked at you like you were a lost treasure he’d been searching for how could you say anything but yes.
“I’d love to.”

Wanda adjusted the scarf in her hair before looking doing another once over in the mirror. The dark red bikini was a perfect fit, except it didn’t cover the god awful scar she had on her left side that she sustained in Sokovia years prior: twenty-four stitches left almost a five inch dotted and jagged red mark between two ribs. She wasn’t afraid to show it, but she hated when people asked about it, even if they were friends. The first time Lila asked, Wanda had tears in her eyes as she explained that she got it defeating killer robots. From then on, Wanda made sure she didn’t wear or do anything that would prompt the question again. Her fingers grazed lightly over the raised, pale pink mark, lower lip pulled between her teeth. She normally would wear a one piece but it was a hot and humid day in New York and she was the only one at the compound for once; she wanted to go down to the beach when no one was around. It wasn’t like she was embarrassed or hated to be around people, it was more of one particular person she didn’t want to be around: Steve’s best friend, Bucky.
Ever since the dark haired, brooding centurion came to stay with them, she found herself hiding in her room more or leaving the room when he entered, face red. She could hear Steve reassure him that it wasn’t because of who he was, stating that they both had shared life experiences, but because she wasn’t a sociable person. And Steve wasn’t a liar. She barely talked to anyone outside of Vision and Steve, if they prompted, and confided in Clint when he called. Only he knew the real reason why she hid from Bucky. The first time she met him in Germany, protecting him from Tony because Clint and Steve said it was important (and it was, she would never deny that), she noted how handsome he was, worn but handsome. She stole glances at the man as they went over what they were gonna do, enamored by how he was quiet yet authoritative at the same time. When she saw him again, years later on that day Steve brought him ‘home’, he lost some weight, but looked healthier, happier. She couldn’t help but dabble into his mind, making note that he had a thought about her: she was pretty. It was enough to have her avoid him at every chance, unsure how to even approach him when she wasn’t sure about herself.
Wanda dropped her hand and sighed at her reflection, the memory of Bucky had her drifting off into a fantasy she entertained herself with from time to time, one that would embarrass her if anyone found out. The sound of her phone snapping her back to reality. She rushed to it, smiling softly as she saw Laura’s name flash on the screen.
“Hello?” Wanda rushed, turning to grab the towel and bag she had packed before changing. She cradled the phone in the crook of her neck and reached for the white silk duster off the bed and pulled it on.
“Hey Wanda,” Laura replied, and Wanda could hear the smile in her voice, “did I catch you at a bad time?”
“No, no. I was just about to go down to the beach for a breather and maybe a bit of a swim.”
“Alone?”
“You know I can fly, right?” Wanda teased as she walked through the hall and grabbed her straw hat and sunglasses off the table.
“Still could be dangerous.”
“I’ll be fine, Mom,” Wanda replied, smiling as Laura laughed. She loved using the moniker for her friend’s wife, because she did become a mother figure to her over the last few years, helping her adjust to having people there that weren’t family and that she could depend on them if she needed. “But what is it that you want? I might lose you when I get to the path.”
“Oh, I was just wondering if you had talked to Clint recently.”
Wanda narrowed her eyes and scrunched her nose, thinking when it was the last time he called her.
“He called last Tuesday, is everything okay?”
“Oh! Everything is great! I’m surprised he didn’t call you right after I told him, thinking he would want to spread the word, but it seems like he’s being tight lipped about it right now.”
“Well, I’m sure the farm and kids have him busy. What is it that you told him?” Wanda hated being led on in a conversation over the phone because she couldn’t just hop into the person’s head to find out where they were leading on to.
“What are you doing in about five months?”
“Five months? Nothing I don’t think? I mean, that’s unless Steve needs me to go somewhere or what. Why?”
“I was–Well, we were wondering if you would like to be the godmother of our new addition,” Laura chuckled at the end, and Wanda had the image of the small brunette sitting in her favorite chair, looking out the bay window at the kids and Clint playing.
“New addition? You mean–Oh! Laura, that’s exciting! Of course!”
Laura was laughing softly at Wanda’s enthusiasm. The Bartons had become her second family, Lila like a little sister to her, but here was the mother figure in her life asking if she would be the pseudo-guardian of Barton Baby Number Four.
“Oh good, I’ll call you later tonight to see when you come here next. I would love to have your input on some things. I don’t want to interrupt your need to bask in the sun and be alone. Love you, Wanda.”
“Sure, but it’s nice to have alone time. Love you too, Laura.”
The line disconnected and Wanda threw the phone into the bag that she had packed with two towels, sunscreen, her book, and a bottle of water, and she walked down the path that led to the small beach by the lake. Birds were chirping and some small animal was romping in the underbrush, giving a perfect background to her mood. Laura and Clint were having a fourth child and they wanted her to be the godmother, and it added a bounce in her step. The beach slowly came into view, and she did a once over to make sure that there was no one else around, even though she knew there was no one. She found a spot that wasn’t overly lumpy and set down her bag before laying out her towel. She made herself comfortable on it, bringing her knees up to her chest and looked out over the lake. It was a calm day with a slight breeze coming by every so often to make the lake lap lightly against the shore. Her eyes went to the sky: bright blue with stark white fluffy clouds.
“Perfect,” she sighed softly, reaching into her bag for the book she stowed away and placed the large bag behind her, resting against it as best as she could before opening the book up to the last page she read.
She was deeply involved in the story that she didn’t hear the footsteps coming from the path and down the wooden steps. It wasn’t until she felt the coolness of the sun blocked out on her shoulders that she realized she was no longer alone. The sudden pull from the written fantasy had her throwing the book to the side and scrambling back, her heart pounding against her chest.
“Easy, Maximoff,” a low voice laced with amusement said.
She froze then, recognizing the voice instantly. Her eyes slowly moved upwards to meet the bright blue eyes of Bucky Barnes.
“James,” Wanda breathed, hoping the ex-assassin registered it as her being caught off guard and not because she was enamored.
“Sorry,” he smiled, running his flesh hand through his slightly shaggy hair, “I thought you would’ve heard me. Didn’t think you were fully involved in a book.” He bent down and reached for the book she had tossed, picking it up and smiled wider. “Tolkein?”
“Pietro loved it when we were kids,” she offered, holding out her hand. Instead of the book being placed in it, his metal hand took hers and pulled her up to a standing position.
“You like it? Or are you reminiscing,” he pondered, looking down at the book again and flipped it over to look at the back. His metal hand never let go of hers, so she gently took it from his grip, making the excuse to pat her head with both to make sure her hat was still decently on top.
“I liked The Hobbit, but never really could get into the other ones,” she replied honestly, her hands falling to her middle to wrap the duster over her midsection. She looked him over as discreetly as she could, noting he was wearing black swim trunks and no shirt, the scarring of where his vibranium arm was attached shone brightly in the sun. His flesh arm was toned, his bicep had to be bigger than her head, and the thought had her biting her lip again and eyes widening.
“I’ll be honest with you, I have only read The Hobbit. Was kind of incompacitated at the time he wrote and released the others. Just never got around to the others,” he added, handing the book back to her, the action making her snap her eyes back to his face. He had a boyish smirk on his face as she took the book with a nod, her free hand still keeping the duster closed.
“Am I interrupting you?” he asked softly, his face falling slightly as he looked her over. Her body felt hot and she shifted under his gaze.
“N-no, just wasn’t expecting anyone here. No one else was home,” she forced out, “It's nice sometimes to have–”
“Peace.”
“Yeah. Sometimes Steve can be overbearing; always checking up on me, asking how I’m doing.” She chewed her lower lip and looked towards the lake.
“He means well,” Bucky offered, his hand coming up to rest on his hip, “but the punk does worry just like his mother did.” Wanda looked back at him and saw him have a sad smile on his face. “Well, I promise I won’t bother you as much, just going for a little swim, you know, to have some peace.”
Wanda smiled and nodded, sitting back down on the towel still clutching her duster. “I’m here if you need me,” she offered, her cheeks going instantly red at the offer. This was the most time she ever had alone with him and it was making her a bit too bold for her comfort level. She tried to look away from him but her eyes roamed up his frame before looking at his face. “You know, if you need rescuing from drowning or a sea monster or whatever.”
He brought up the flesh hand, two fingers touching his temple before flicking them away in a salute. “Ma’am,” he said with a smile and walked backwards towards the lake. She convinced herself she was imagining the way he looked at her as she sat cross legged on the towel. He finally turned around at the water, giving her a full view of the rippling muscles of his back and backside. When he finally stepped into the water, it was enough to bring her out of her thoughts and look down at her book.
She sighed softly and leaned back against her bag again, eyes flitting to the water to see Bucky was already swimming across the lake. She stared for a moment before opening the book again, trying to find the page she was on before she was startled by the brunet. She smiled when she found her page, and immersed herself back into the story.
Time passed, the length unknown to Wanda, but she was at the part where Bilbo was speaking to Gollum with riddles when she felt a cool droplet hit her warmed foot. She looked up and there was Bucky smiling down at her, which she reciprocated almost instantly.
“How far are ya?” Bucky asked, nodding his head towards her book.
“Riddles,” she smiled, closing the book around the bookmark before holding the book up, waving it slightly before turning to put it in her bag. She hadn’t noticed that her duster fell open nor the look that fell over Bucky’s face before she turned back, seeing his smile again. “How was the water?”
“Good. Cool. Refreshing,” he replied, his hands going to his hips as he looked over his shoulders, eyes squinting in the sunlight. “You going in?”
Wanda laughed and shook her head, leaning back on her hands. “Oh no, I don’t swim. One, never learned how, and two, vitamin D feels good right now. I’m afraid that cool water over there would feel mighty cold to me.”
“Mind if I sit with you then?”
Wanda nodded and offered him the extra towel she had in her bag, which he took happily, stating that sand can be annoying in places, making her turn red and laugh softly. She watched him lay out the towel and sit down on it to her left, careful that his sand-clad feet weren’t on it an inch. She wasn’t sure what to say, as this was the first time she and Bucky were alone together. She felt like a little girl sitting next to her crush in the cafeteria at school: giddy, antsy, and wanting to run.
“Are you usually into fantasies?” Bucky asked, leaning in towards her, his eyes fixed on the lake.
“It’s a great way to escape reality,” she replied softly, tilting her head to the side. “When I was little, before I lost my family, we would watch old American television shows. Papa would find a way of getting a hold of a new tape every so often and we would sit around our small television and watch: Dick Van Dyke, Bewitched, Brady Bunch.”
“Saw that one,” Bucky chuckled, “an interesting way of having a mixed family.”
“Yeah,” Wanda chuckled, “but I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch them again since I lost my parents. Pietro didn’t like the shows as much, but he did like books. At least before he noticed girls. He would read to me every night after we were rescued from the rubble, and The Hobbit was the first one he read to me.” She fell silent for a minute, chewing her bottom lip.
“I used to read it to Steve when he would be on the mend,” Bucky replied softly, “he would either be healing from whatever ass beating he got or from whatever sickness got to him. His mom was gone, so my mother would have me stay with him until he got better.” He sighed heavily, reaching over her for the book, raising a brow at her, and took it when she nodded. “If you want, I can always read to you,” he offered, “that’s if you miss something like that.” He looked down at the book and flipped it open to where she had bookmarked.
Wanda felt her cheeks warm even more, hoping he would think it was just the sun. “Uh–sure. I mean, I would like that,” she replied, managing to keep her voice from shaking.
Bucky gave her a boyish grin. She noticed his eyes roam along her face and downward briefly before his brows furrowed.
“Is that when the building fell on you?” he asked, cocking his head to the side.
Wanda blinked slightly and looked down to see where he was looking. The pale pink scar shone brightly in the sun.
“Oh–um–it was when we were in Sokovia with Steve...when Ultron–”
“Shit, I’m sorry,” Bucky rushed out, holding his hands up to her. “I shouldn’t've asked.”
“It’s okay, I just...forgot about it for a second. It’s a constant reminder of losing Pietro, so I try hard not to have it show.” Again, she chewed her lip, pulling her knees up to her chest, and held them close. She was surprised to feel the cool smoothness of metal pull her lip out from between her teeth.
“You should stop that. It’s not good for your lips and jaw.” His hand didn’t pull away, only to cradle her chin with his thumb and finger. She could only nod, and that’s when his hand dropped from her skin. He must have seen her small frown because he laughed and leaned in, bumping into her shoulder. “Nat said she thought you had a crush on me,” he teased lightly.
“Oh god,” Wanda groaned, hiding her face into her knees, his laugh filling her ears.
“Hey, why are you hiding?”
“It’s embarrassing.”
“To have a crush on me?”
“For you to know I have a crush on you.” She took a ragged breath and slowly raised her head to look at him. “I–I didn’t want to bother you with such nonsense. Only because you were still adjusting!” The last bit was rushed out when she saw his face pull into a questioning look.
“Well, I’m adjusted now,” he smiled at her, his flesh hand coming up to her shoulder, squeezing it slightly. “So it’s not a bother now.”
She turned her head, resting it on her knees as she looked at him. “Seriously?”
“Seriously,” he replied, “I was waiting to see if you were ready for someone to ask you out. No one could give me a straight answer as you are pretty guarded. Except Nat.”
“She’s pretty good at being a spy,” Wanda scoffed, her cheeks burning. She took off her sunglasses finally and looked at him. “And I told her. Thought I could trust her with that secret.”
“She only told me this morning when we were leaving. She also told me it was a nice day for a swim.”
They looked at each other for a moment before they both started laughing.
“Our little assassin has a soft spot for match making,” Bucky said between breaths, leaning back on his hands.
“She is,” Wanda mused. “That she is.” She made mental note to ask the redheaded spy for a sparring session later.
