coming back to this post i made again to elaborate - especially as the ted lasso fandom is discussing sam/rebecca and fandom racism in general. there are takes that are important to make that i had failed to previously, but there's also a growing amount of takes that i have to, As A Black Person™, respectfully disagree with.
tl;dr for the essay below sam being infantilized and the sam/rebecca relationship are not the same issue and discussing the former one doesn't mean excusing the latter. and we've reached the glen of the Dark Forest where we sit down and talk about fandom racism.
i should have elaborated this in my last post about sam/rebecca, but i didn't. i'll say it now - i personally don't support sam and rebecca getting together for real. i believe what people are saying is entirely correct, even though sam is an adult legally, he and rebecca are, at the very least, two wildly different stages of life. for americans, he's at the equivalent of being a junior in college. there are things he hasn't gotten the chance to experience and there are areas he needs to grow in. when i was younger, i didn't understand the significance of these age gaps, i just thought it would be fine if it was legal, but as someone who is now a little older than sam in universe, i understand fully. we can't downplay this. whether or not you think sam works for rebecca or not, even despite the gender inversion of the Older Man Younger Woman trope, whether or not he is a legal adult, i don't think at this point in time, their relationship would work. i think it's an interesting narrative device, but i don't want to see it play out in reality.
that being said!
what's worrying me is that two discussions are being conflated here that shouldn't be. sam having agency and being a little more grown™ than he's perceived to be does not suddenly make his relationship with rebecca justified. i had decided to bring it up because sam was being brought into the spotlight again and i was starting to realizing that his infantilization was more common than i felt comfortable with.
sam's infantilization (and i will continue to call it that), is a microaggression. it's is in the range of microaggressions that i would categorize as 'fandom overcompensation'. we have a prominent character of color that exhibits traits that aren't stereotypical, and we don't want to appear racist or stereotypical, so we lean hard in the other direction. they're not aggressive, they're a Sweet Baby, they're not world weary, they're now a little naive. they're not cold and distant, they're so nice and sweet that there's no one that wouldn't want approach them, and yeah, on their face, these new traits are a departure and, on their face, they seem they look really good.
but at a certain point, it reaches an inflection point, and, like the aftertaste of a diet coke, that alleged sweetness veers into something a lot less sweet. it veers into a lack of agency for the character. it veers into an innocence that appears to indicate that the person can't even take care of themselves. it veers into a one-dimensional characterization that doesn't allow for any depth or negative emotion.
it's not kind anymore. it's not a nice departure from negative stereotypes. it's not compensating for anything.
it's patronizing.
it is important that we emphasize that characters of color are more than the toxic stereotypes we lay on them, yes, but we make a mistake in thinking that the solution is overcorrection. for one thing, people of color can usually tell. don't get it twisted, it's actually pretty obvious. for another, it just shifts from one dimension to another. people of color are still supposed to be Only One Character Trait while white people can contain multitudes. ted, who is pretty much as pollyanna as they come, can be at once innocent and naive and deep and troubled and funny and scared. jamie can be a prick and sexy and also lonely and also a victim of abuse. sam, however, even though he was bullied (by jamie, no less), is thousands of miles away from home, and has led a protest on his team, is usually just characterized as human sunshine with much less acknowledgement of any other traits beyond that.
and that's why i cringe when fandom calls sam a Sweet Baby Boy without any sense of irony. is that all we're taking away? after all this time? even for a comedy, sam has received a substantive of screen time over two whole seasons, and we've seen a range of emotions from him. so as a black person it's hurtful that it's boiled down to Sweet Baby Boy.
that's the problem. we need to subvert stereotypes, but more importantly, we need to understand that people of color are not props, or pieces of cardboard for their white counterparts. they are full and actualized and have agency in their own right and they can have other emotions than Angry and Mean or Sweet and Bubbly without any nuance between the two. i think the show actually does a relatively good job of giving sam depth (relatively, always room for improvement, mind you), especially holding it in tension with his youth, but the fandom, i worry, does not.
it's the same reason why finn from star wars started out as the next male protagonist in the sequel trilogy but by the third movie was just running around yelling for REY!! it's the same reason why when people make Phase 4 Is the Phase For Therapy gifsets for the mcu and show wanda maximoff, loki, and bucky barnes crying and being sad but purposefully exclude sam wilson who had an entire show to tell us how difficult his life is, because people find out if pee oh sees are also complex, they'll tell the church.
and the reason why i picked up on this very early on is because i am an organic, certified fresh, 100% homegrown, non-gmo, a little ashy, indigenous sub saharan African black person. the ghanaian tribes i'm descended from have told me so, my black ass parents have told me so, and the nurses at the hospital in [insert asian country here] that started freaking out about how curly my hair was as my mother was mid pushing me out told me so!
and this stuff has real life implications. listen: being patronized as a black person sucks. do you know how many times i was patted on the back for doing quite honestly, the bare minimum in school? do you know how many times i was told how 'well spoken' or 'eloquent' i was because i just happen to have a white accent or use three syllable words? do you know how many times i've been cooed over by white women who couldn't get over how sweet i was just because i wasn't confrontational or rude like they wrongly expected me to be?
that's why they're called microaggressions. it's not a cross on your lawn or having the n-word spat in your face, but it cuts you down little by little until you're completely drained.
so that's the nuance. that's the subversion. the overcompensation is not a good thing. and people of color (and i suspect, even white people) have picked up on, in general, the different ways fandom treats sam and dani and even nate. what all of these discussions are converging on is fandom racism, which is not the diet form of racism, but another place for racism to reveal itself. and yeah, it's uncomfortable. it can seem out of left field. you may want to defend yourself. you may want to explain it away. but let me tap the sign on the proverbial bus:
if you are a white person, or a person of color who is not part of that racial group, even, you do not get to decide what is not racist for someone. full stop. there are no exceptions. there is no exit clause for you. there is no 'but, actually-'. that right wasn't even yours to cede or waive.
(it's also important to note that people of color also have the right to disagree on whether something is racist, but that doesn't necessarily negate the racism - it just means there's more to discuss and they can still leave with different interpretations)
people don't just whip out accusations of racism like a blue eyes white dragon in a yu-gi-oh duel. it's not fun for us. it's not something we like to do to muzzle people we don't want to engage with. and we're not concerned with making someone feel bad or ashamed. we're exposing something painful that we have to live with and, even worse, process literally everything we experience through. we can't turn it off. we can't be 'less sensitive' or 'less nitpicky'. we are literally the primary resources, we are the proverbial wikipedia articles with 3,000 sources when it comes to racism. who else would know more than us?
what 2020 has shown us very clearly is that racism is systemic. it's not always a bunch of Evil White Men rubbing their hands together in a dark room wondering how they're going to use the 'n-word' today. it's systemic. it's the way you call that one neighborhood 'sketchy'. it's how you use 'ratchet' and 'ghetto' when describing something bad. it's how you implicitly the assume the intelligence of your friend of color. it's the way you turned up your nose and your friend's food and bullied them for it in middle school but go to restaurants run by white people who have 'uplifted' it with inauthentic ingredients. it's telling someone how Well Spoken and Eloquent they are even though you've both gone to the same schools and work at the same workplace. it's the way you look down at some people of color for having a different body type than you because they've been redlined to neighborhoods where certain foods and resources are inaccessible, and yet mock up the racial features that appeal to you either through makeup or plastic surgery.
it's how when a person of color behaves badly, they're irredeemable, but a white person performing the same act or something similar is 'having a bad day' or 'isn't normally like this' or 'has room to grow' and we can't 'wait for their redemption arc', and yes, i'm not going to cover it in detail in this post but yes this is very much about nate. other people have also brought up the nuances in his arc and compared them to other white characters so i won't do it here.
these behaviors and reactions aren't planned. they aren't orchestrated. they're quite literally unconscious because they've been lovingly baked into western society for centuries. you can't wake up and be rid of it. whether you intended it or not, it can still be racist.
and it's actually quite hurtful and unfair to imply that concerns about racism in the TL fandom are unfounded or lacking any depth or simply meant to be sensational because you simply don't agree with it. i wish it was different, but it doesn't work that way. i'm not raising this up to 'call out' or shame people, but i'm adding to this discussion because, through how we talk about sam, and even dani and nate, i'm yet again seeing a pattern that has shortchanged people of color and made them feel unwelcome in fandom for far too long.
coach beard said it best: we need to do better.

Love Without Doubt
Tumblr media
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Female Reader
Part 1: It’ll be over and I’ll Still Be Asking When
Other people mentioned: Natasha, Tony, Clint, Wanda & others
Warnings: Mentions of death, heartache, language like normal, angry reader, sad steve, dead Tony, smut in the future, pregnancy, a whole load of angst and a whole lot of fluff in future parts.
Description: Losing Tony Stark was the worst thing to ever happen to you. But finding out that you were 3 months pregnant with your late husbands baby hit the nail on the head. You were alone, heartbroken and Scared. Steve’s riddled with guilt, knowing you were out there alone and pregnant hurt him, how could he leave you like that? Exactly he couldn’t.
A/n: I know the pictures are of a white girl but this is by no means a white girl fic. In fact this is reader insert! Meaning that you get to imagine yourself in this fic as y/n, so I will not be addressing the colour of her skin because that is for you to do! :) I know that this chapter is just a short one but this is the prologue. I didn’t think it needed to be that long.
A/n: ahhhh it’s been a while. I’m sorry for my absence I didn’t really plan on writing this again. But after a lot of thinking 🤔 came to the conclusion that I honestly adore this fic too much not to continue it.
Positive.
Shit!
'No no no no no! Y/n this can't be happening right now! How on earth could you let this happen?' You screamed in your head. Just some of the thoughts that were running wild in your brain as you continued to stare hundreds of tiny little holes into the pregnancy test.
Tony had always wanted kids, ever since the pair of your had begun to date those long 7 years ago he'd been open with you about his longing for children. But now the moment you should have shared with your loving husband was shared with you and your reflection in the mirror. The man you loved would never get to meet his beautiful baby and that fact alone was enough to shatter your heart into slivers. There truly was no coming back from this pain.
How could this be happening right now? More importantly, how could this be happening to you right no! After everything you'd been through the world just wouldn't give you a break?!? With Tony gone how on earth were you even going to provide of a baby? Let alone looked after it on your own!
As these questions continued to race around your brain at 100 miles an hour, your hands began to shake uncontrollably whilst tears began to fall from your eyes. It was no surprise that you were understandably distraught with the cards you'd been dealt by the world.
————————————————————
Despite your pain, Steve was going through heartbreak just as much as you were, completely traumatised due to being forced to watch one of his best friends sacrifice himself in order to save not only the world but also the universe it's self. Not only did he have the trauma but he also had the guilt of your pain looming over you.
Due to what he'd witnessed Steve would find himself experiencing nightmare after nightmare every single night, barely managing to sneak in any sleep before the images of his former best friend, Tony Stark, dying in front of him reappeared in his brain for what felt like the millionth time. It had only been 3 days since that dreaded day yet he'd been tossing and turning ever since. Living alone in his currant state was never a good idea. But since he had no one to help him through the PTSD he had to just struggle on through.  With all his failures coming back to haunt him it was tough but he had to try. Otherwise what was the point in anything?
As the early hours of the morning sunshine began to shine through his half open curtains, Steve jolted awake. Once again awakened by the deadliness of his nightmare. However, this time, unlike any other time, he woke up with an overwhelming sense of guilt towards you. His entire heart burning from what you must have been going through.  After all he knew exactly how close you and Tony use to be, how could he have been so cruel to rip that away from you when you'd been so happy?
Knowing that you'd be all alone in that huge cabin, alone with your thought eating you alive just like his were, truly didn't sit right with him. It was just in his blood to help people, whether or not they actually wanted his help was a different question but if someone was in distress, which he somehow had a feeling you were, he had to at least try and help.
Grunting, the still slightly panicked soldier stretched out his limbs, releasing all tensions from the night before as he did every morning even before the blip. It was just apart of his routine now and he'd never be able to stop that.
'Alright, time to get up I guess' the male mumbled to himself as his feet met the hard wood of his apartment bedroom floor. Ever since the blip Steve hadn't been able to stay at the Avengers compound, too afraid of having to relive all of those failures again. Now, with the compound completely and utterly destroyed, it was just an added reason for him not to go back there. Especially with everything that had gone on in there before.
He may have looked okay from the outside but on the inside? Oh he was a broken man alright. What did anyone expect from a super soldier who'd been through as much trauma as him?
As the male prepared his morning coffee his mind wandered back to you, wondering what on earth you could have been doing in a cabin all alone by yourself. Maybe you were still asleep in bed , shaking off all the loneliness and all the heart break with as much sleep as you could? If that was the case then maybe Steve could rest easier knowing that for the most part you were okay. Maybe he would have been able to forget about you if he knew for certain that you were able to slip into a state of peace when you fell asleep.
But for some reason Steve just couldn't shake the idea of you maybe crying yourself to sleep every night. Or even worse, what if you were listening to that damn hologram again? Or his voicemail again? What if you still hated him? Oh he had to put this right.
Deep down Steve knew you hated the way that he'd handled things, the way he'd brutally dragged your husband away from you. Bursting the bubble surrounding the two of you in the process. But if there was any possible way that he could put all the heartbreak right and ease his Conscience in the process then he had to try right? No matter how much you hated him right now he knew that you'd need a friend right now.
So without a second thought, the super soldier poured his morning coffee into a travel mug (one Bucky had bought him one year), threw on a t-shirt and jeans, grabbed his leather jacket as well as his keys and left the house. There just had to be a way to put this right.
As Steve made his way to the cabin that used to be shared by you and Tony, he couldn't help but lose himself in deep thought. Struggling to comprehend how life had just fucked everyone over so awfully. Yeah they managed to get their lives back and bring everyone home in the process. But what good was that when Tony didn't arrive back home to you safely? What use was bringing all the blipped back when Steve had to explain to you that your husband was never coming home. The world was cruel, that he knew for certain.
It hadn't taken him more than an hour to finally arrive at your cabin, sucking in a deep breath as he slowly exited him car and made his way up to the front door.
Was he really about to do this? Was he really about to attempt to talk to you even though he knew that you most likely hated his guts?
Apparently so since his he curled his hand into a fist and gently knocked on the door, staring is hung that he could hear the sound of joyful laughter. But in reality all he could hear was painful sobs. That was the hardest part, hearing you sob was already breaking his heart. It was times like these he truly did wish that his hearing wasn’t as strong as it happened to be.
With one more breath, Steve finally pulled himself together and knocked 3 times, hoping you’d opened the door for him.
————————————————————
You'd been so caught up in your emotional agony that you'd barely had enough time to hear the first couple knocks, but by the third knock your senses seemed to finally come back quick enough to only slightly hear the very last knock.
After straightening yourself up a little you finally made your way towards the door, dreading the panic attack that was most likely coming your way after everything you’d gone through. However, nothing had prepared you for who you found at the door upon opening.
“Steve?” You groaned almost angrily; practically spitting it out.

It Still Hurts (Peter Parker x Reader)
okay so i saw this gifset here and the quote from the movie [Happy: I thought you had super strength. // Peter: It still hurts. ] and INSPIRATION STRUCK, again i bet this concept has been done before but i cannot hold back i must write about this so here is my sad petey x reader one shot please enjoy
WARNINGS: angst?, cursing, talk of blood/stitching, crying and generally just a really sad piece i have no reason for this i just couldn’t get the concept out my mind
Word count: 1725
It was getting late. Very late, even for Peter and you were growing very concerned. He told May that he was going to stay at the Tower with Happy after a simple arms deal bust he was assigned to do with Sam and Bucky out at the shipyard. So of course, the two of you arranged that he’d come in through your fire escape to spend the night instead. To your disbelief though, he was late.
In general, when the two of you made these kinds of plans he would be in your window at three the latest but it was pushing near four in the morning and you were growing more and more anxious by the second.
As the clock hit 4:30, Peter’s hand hit your window.
You opened it up quickly, the dim light of your TV the only thing illuminating your room. He shuffled in, leaning heavily on you, panting and wincing with every rough step towards your bed.
“What the fuck happened Peter?” You asked, genuinely curious, releasing your hold on his elbow as he sat down on the corner of your bed. His body fell forward as he leaned his forearms onto his knees and allowed his head to swing between his shoulders.
“I was wearing the old suit. I left the new one in the lab because I coded some new stuff for it and I’ve been putting off this last update. I thought I would be fine since it was an easy mission, plus Wanda came out with us but these guys had some punch to ‘em.” Peter explained as you stood in front of him, slowly moving his head and arms around to check for anything that needed special attention. When you lifted his right arm he winced.
You nodded, allowing him to continue explaining what went down at the docks. You shuffled through your closet until you found your old med kit, humming softly every now and then to let him know you were still listening.
The kit had some dust from sitting at the very back of the shelf and not being touched for over a year since Peter had joined forces with the Avengers. With the major suit upgrade and the med team at the tower, he never had to sneak in through your window at night to get patched up anymore, which begged the question that you could no longer hold back.
“Pete, why didn’t you go back to the tower to get patched up?” You asked.
“I didn’t want to go to the tower, they would have made me stay there,” he explained. “And I really wanted to see you. I got my ass handed to me, babe. It sucked.”
You turned on the lamp that sat atop the small table by your bed and sat to Pete’s right, examining the cut just above his right shoulder blade. He was going to need a few stitches.
“I can see that,” You joked, opening up the kit and prepping your needle. “Take the suit off, I need to clean this up. It’s gonna be at least four stitches.”
He obliged, hissing as he peeled off the top and letting it drop into his lap. “I always hated stitches.”
“I know, but it’s gotta happen,” you explained, gently wiping the gash with alcohol and wincing alongside his reactions. “I’m sorry, I know it hurts.”
“It’s okay. I’m sorry for the blood, for making you do this.”
You shake your head despite the fact that he has his back to you. “It’s fine,” you reply. “I just don’t understand why you wouldn’t wanna get patched up by the nurse at the tower. She even gives lollipops afterwards.”
He lets out a sharp chuckle. “Yeah Nurse Katherine’s great at fixing me up, sure, but I really didn’t want to sleep alone tonight.”
You hum in reply as you prep your needle. “Okay, Pete, I’m gonna start the stitches.”
Peter nods his head and remembers not to talk while you do these stitches.
Up until high school, the only stitches you knew were the kind you did to patch up the pits of your t-shirts and to put little flowers in your denim jacket. Then, in your freshman year, your cousin had busted his forearm open at the skatepark and you were the only person in the entire family with a steady hand. That night you learned how to stitch a man up. After you told Peter that story though, he started showing up on your fire escape with cuts, scrapes and bruises galore.
Although it had been over a year since you’d last done this though, Peter had given you a lot of practice and you were back in your groove very quickly.
Despite this, you heard soft cries coming from the broad body in front of you.
“I thought you had super strength,” you attempted to make fun, pulling through your third stitch.
“It still hurts,” he replied, his voice raspy and low.
In your heart you knew he wasn’t talking about the stitches. You’ve stitched up a gouge much worse on his calf after he got caught up with a girl who really loved her knives, and he didn’t even complain. That night it was eight stitches and not a peep from him.
You finished the rest of the stitches in silence. After wiping up the rest of the blood smeared on his body, you cleaned up the skin around the suture and placed a large cotton pad atop it, securing that in place and hoping that he didn’t get blood on your bed sheets again.
You packed away your med pack and grabbed a pair of sweats and a t-shirt from the collection of clothes you’d stolen from Peter in the last year or so that you guys have been together.
“Thank you,” he said, pulling his suit off and climbing into his sweats.
His eyes were still red and puffy, the only sounds filling the room were random sniffles and the sound of you sorting out the bed for the two of you to sleep.
“Are you okay, Pete?” You asked, sitting up on the left side of the bed, the comforter pulled up in your lap.
He pulled the shirt on over his head and pulled the blanket off your lap and settled himself in between your legs, his back pressed up against you, and pulling your arms around his shoulders.
Before you could piece words together to react, soft sobs filled the room.
A minute passed and you pulled him closer to you, pressing soft kisses to the crown of his head and running your thumb up and down his forearm.
His breathing finally slowed. “I miss him so much.”
You chewed on the inside of your cheek thinking of something to say.
You knew well enough he was talking about Tony. Ever since Tony died, Peter’s been off his game. Even with the Stark tech, he was getting pretty hurt at every single mission. He wasn’t sleeping as much and if you managed to catch him in between tasks, you could see the exhaustion in his eyes.
“I know,” you reply. “I’m sorry, Peter.”
You can’t think of anything else to do but squeeze him a little tighter.
“I just-- it still hurts. It’s been months and it still hurts. I miss him. I don’t like the world without Tony Stark. It’s scarier. Even I’m scared all the time. I can’t focus on missions, and that means I’m putting people in danger,” he stops to breathe, pulling your arms a little closer to his chest. “and I’m just so tired of watching good men die at the hands of selfish people.”
You sit and listen and feel your heart ache at the sight and sound of nothing but a boy in pain, mourning the loss of someone he loved so dearly, and there’s not much else you can do but hold him close, listen and be there for him.
“I know. It’s not fair. There’s nothing fair about it.”
“I want Tony back.”
The two of you sit there for a while longer, Pete’s sniffles filling the air. Eventually they stop and he unwraps your arms from around him and the two of you lie down.
You end up on your back with Peter’s head resting on your chest, slowly breathing in your scent. His arms snake around your middle and you know he’s going to be insistent on holding you like this for the rest of the night, so you try to get comfy. Your fingers tangle in his hair and you rake through them over and over and over again, hoping that he’ll fall asleep soon.
He doesn’t.
“Do you think we’ll be okay?” he asked, his voice soft and quiet.
“I think New York can only be so bad with a guy like Spiderman defending it,” you mutter back, pressing another kiss to his forehead.
“I don’t think I can fill Mr. Stark’s shoes, y/n.”
“I think you can. He picked you, Peter.”
“But he was Iron Man, he was always there when the world needed saving.”
“I don’t think he would have done what he did if he didn’t think that you could help take care of the world for him.”
He didn’t respond, but you felt him hold his breath, so you continued.
“And you’re not alone Pete. He gave you a family with the Avengers and he believed in you.”
“Yeah.”
“I believe in you.”
You smoothed his hair back before tangling your fingers with the bunch at the nape of his neck. The two of you lied awake for nearly another hour, not speaking, just holding each other.
You held this boy in your arms, desperate to protect him from anymore loss and grief. This boy who had a huge heart and nothing but a yearn to protect the ones around him. This boy who was one of the people responsible for saving the universe.
And Peter held his number one reason for continuing to fight the good fight. That night, as you held him and his chest filled with an ache only you could soothe, he made a promise to himself that he would protect the world with every bit of him, so long as you were in it.

This chapter is a monster so I’m splitting it up into two parts. If y’all wouldn’t mind letting me know if you’re still reading this, I would appreciate it forever.
Tumblr media
Small Time Witch (21) part 1
Most of the time when Loki remembered his dreams they were of you or his mother. Sometimes he dreamt of his coronation as king of Asgard with you by his side. The last several nights he would wake up frantic having dreamt of Asgard in ruin. Ragnarok was imminent. He tried several times to reach Thor to no avail. He would go to Asgard in the morning.
You rolled over half asleep reaching out to the warm body that wasn’t there. This is the third time this week Loki had a nightmare. “Lok?”
“In here” he called from the den.
“Another nightmare?” You hugged him from behind. He kissed your hands.
“I don’t think they are nightmares. I think they are warnings. I can’t get in touch with Thor. I’ll have to go to Asgard in the morning.”
“Can I come?”
“I’m afraid not. I don’t know what’s happening and I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“I can help.” You let a little spark jump between your fingers.
“I know you can, Pet. At worst something terrible is happening and I’ll have to help. Which means I will be too distracted worrying about your safety to fight. At best I’m just having nightmares, I’ll see the healers and I’ll be home by the next day. I promise.”
You pouted but didn’t argue. You hated seeing him this worried. You made him a cup of tea and sat with him until he was ready to go back to bed. When you yawned for the third time he tried to get you to go on without him.
“That’s it. Off with you” he said over his book.
“I’m not tired. I want to stay up with you. Hey, Loki, I can put you to sleep like you used to do when I had nightmares.” You slid your hand into the waistband of his pajamas and started stroking his cock. It was only a matter of seconds before it was hard and throbbing in your hand. He always responded so well to your touch.
You didn’t even make it into the bedroom. He bent you over the arm of the sofa and pounded you silly. He made you cum three times before he was able to meet his release. After all that you were a half dead mess. He was still wide awake.
“Shall I carry you, my queen? I’m quite strong you know?” He pulled you from the couch and all but dragged you to bed.
“How are you still so awake?” He shushed you as you climbed under the covers. “Don’t leave me. Get in bed.” You rested your head on his chest and fell asleep before he could turn off the light. Sleep never came for him.
In the morning he made you breakfast and woke you with his tongue diving into your snatch. Your all time favorite wake up. You sat on his lap throughout breakfast. He insisted. It was like he couldn’t get enough of you. Since you returned from Alfheim you hadn’t been apart for more than a few hours. Not knowing when he’s return was making you both a little antsy.
“How will I know you’re there?” you asked impatiently.
“You’ll know. The pull will not be as strong.” His voice was low and somber. You both hated that thought.
“How will I know if you’re hurt or worse?” He grabbed your chin and looked into your eyes.
“If I die, you will too. Remember? The rings keep us bound. They’re still Yggdrasil. My soul is still there.”
“How comforting. What if I take it off to wash my hands and that’s the moment you die. Will I still die?”
He rolled his eyes, “Yes. The moment you return the ring to your finger. You’ll be bound to a dead soul.”
Your stomach was in knots. “Good. Because if you die I’ll find you and drag you out of Hel myself. I’m not feeling good about this, Lok. Let me come with you. Or don’t go. We’ll try Thor again.”
Loki sighed deeply. My my, you were peevish this morning. “Y/N. I have to go. I will be back. I love you more than anything. Much more than Asgard. I promise if anything happens I’ll get out of there and come right home. I promise.” He kissed you deeply. He didn’t want to let go. He looked worried. “I love you, Y/N. Not even death can change that.”
“Please don’t say it like that. I love you too, Lok.” He called for Heimdall and he was off.
You tried to occupy yourself but your mind kept going back to him. After your third cup of tea you decided to go relax in the yard. You grabbed a book and a blanket. You read the same sentence a few times and finally gave up. It was no use. That was it. You had been coupled for so long that you forgot how to be with yourself.
It was really no surprise how broken up you were about Loki being away. You were the same way when you and Andrew broke up. This was different. You and Loki weren’t breaking up. You were blissfully happy. You still had a nagging feeling in your chest that something wasn’t right.
That night you dreamt of a world burning down around you. You tried to get to Loki but you couldn’t in time. Every time you closed your eyes you saw his lifeless face looking back at you purple bruised and bleeding. It made you physically ill.
You did everything in your power to reach Loki. Nothing worked. You searched through his books to try to find a way to access the Bifrost. That was either magic Loki couldn’t do or he didn’t have it in his books. You stumbled across one book titled The Joy of Interstellar Space Travel. When you opened it the pages looked a little off. You place your hand in the center and it went right through the book into a little hole. This must be where Loki kept the tasseract and now it’s gone. Your brain flew into a panic and you started shouting for Heimdall.
You had to stop Loki from doing whatever stupid thing he was about to do. Heimdall never answered. Maybe Strange could get you there. You ran into the kitchen to grab your keys when you heard Loki’s voice.
He looked like he had taken a beating. Exhaustion wracked his body. You tried to touch his face but your hand went right through. He was too weak to make his double corporeal.
“Oh, Loki.”
You could see the tears streaming down his face. “Y/N, I’m not going to make it home. I know I promised and I am so sorry...”
“No” you shook your head furiously, “you promised! Come home. Please!”
He shushed you and cursed himself for not being able to touch you. “I don’t have much time. I need you to warn Wanda and Strange. Tell them Thanos is coming for the stones. You have to hurry. He already has two.”
“What do you mean? If you go I go. I won’t be here to tell them..”
“Yes you will. You have to take off your ring.”
“No! Loki! No! I’m coming with you. I’ll find you in Hel.” You were trembling violently and sobbing. Nothing he could say would calm you.
“You have to. Please. This wouldn’t be happening if I hadn’t taken the tasseract. It’s my fault. Half of our people are gone. I need you to do this.”
“Fuck everyone else. We’re supposed to spend eternity wandering around the afterlife together. We said vows. If you didn’t mean it then....”
He could see logic had escaped you at this point so he got more forceful. “Stop being such a fucking brat and do as I say! Take off the damned ring! NOW. You need to live. You just have to. I’m sorry that this is happening but you shouldn’t be made to suffer because of me.”
He may as well have slapped you. Both of you were prostrate with grief. With every ounce of strength he had he forced his double to solidify so that he may feel you one more time. He placed his hands on the side of your face and made you to see him.
“I love you. Please say you love me. My little queen. Tell me.”
“I love you, Loki. Please don’t leave me. What am I supposed to do without you?”
He took a deep strained breath. Blood was trickling out of his nose and his eyes were rimmed red, “Live.” He snatched the ring off your finger and fizzled out.
You screamed his name like a wild banshee and summoned a wind that knocked everything off the walls. You couldn’t feel your body tumbling to the floor. You couldn’t breathe. You were certain for a split second your heart stopped. The blood rushing through your ears was so loud you couldn’t hear your phone ringing. You held out your hand to bring it over. On the other end was Wanda’s panicked voice.
“Y/N! What happened? Y/N!”
Your voice was very calm and monotone, “Thanos is coming for the stone. You have to get Vision out of there. Loki’s dead. Thanos has the tasseract. I have to call Strange.”
You hung up and dialed Strange’s number. No answer. Your television clicked on. You hadn’t turned it on. The news story flashed on the screen saying that New York was attacked. Thanos was already on his way.
You stayed on the kitchen floor clutching your ring and you cried. There was nothing else you had strength for.

STEVE
The Quinjet could not carry Steve to New York fast enough. He paced the entire time they were in the air. He kept trying your phone but it was going right to voicemail.
“Pick up, damn it.”
Wanda assured him you were still alive. She couldn’t concentrate long enough to feel you. He called Ororo.
“Captain Rogers. Good to hear from you. What are we looking at?”
“A mad titan coming to earth to collect stones that will help him wipe out half the population.”
“Must be a Tuesday,” she said in jest. “How can we help?”
Steve let out a deep sigh, “We stopped some of his followers in Belfast. I’m sure you saw they captured Tony Stark in New York. Truthfully I have no idea. Ororo, is Y/N alone?”
“She is. She won’t let anyone in the house. Agatha can’t get through the magic she put up. She’s umm...” her voice faltered, “she’s in so much pain. Jean can’t get through to her. Logan has stationed himself outside. When we first got there all we could hear was her screaming. She won’t let us help her.”
“Ok. We’ll be in New York in a few hours. Let me know if anything changes.” He hung up and braced himself against the wall. Bucky put his hand on Steve’s shoulder to comfort him. “Buck, when we land I want you to go straight to Y/N.” Bucky nodded and paced the floor with him.
As soon as they got back to the compound Steve tried calling you again. This time you answered but didn’t say anything. He could hear you sniffling on the other end. “Y/N, Bucky is coming to get you ok? You need to let him in.” You didn’t answer him at first. His heart was breaking for you. He squeezed his eyes his eyes shut, “Come on, Princess, I know you can hear me. Say something.”
“Ok” Click. At least that was something. Bucky grabbed some keys and found the car they belonged to. He raced to you as fast as he could. When he pulled up Logan greeted him.
🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅
“She won’t let anyone in” Logan huffed.
Bucky advanced towards the house. He was scared to death that you were going to kill him. “She knew I was on the way. What’s stopping you from getting in? Will it kill me if I try?”
“Not exactly. It’s just that when you get close you can’t move. Like your body won’t advance or doesn’t want to. I can’t explain it accurately.” Logan was flustered. He had been trying to get to you for hours with no luck.
“Can she hear us talking or should I call her phone?”
“She can hear.”
The front door and windows were open. You were sitting on the couch staring at the wall. You looked so lost and pissed. Really pissed. The most scary thing is that you looked like you were scheming. Murderously scheming. Bucky hoped that none of Loki’s stupid tendencies rubbed off on you.
He got as close as you would allow and he spoke softly. “Hey, doll. Steve sent me to get you. We don’t want you to be alone. But if you don’t want to go I will sit here and wait as long as you want. But, I haven’t watched this season of Drag Race. If you want to let me in I can watch with you. I brought the essentials.”
Agatha perked up, “Keep going, Bucky. It’s working” she whispered.
“I have Funions from the gas station. I know you like road trip snacks. I also have peanut butter M&M’s and Oreos. If you have some ice cream we can make milkshakes. I have bourbon if you want to make it interesting. Not the fancy kind. That rot got Irish shit that burns when you swallow....”
“I hope you brought enough for everyone” you finally said. Bucky stood up and gingerly stepped into the doorway.
“I have plenty. Didn’t know how long I’d be here. Can we come in?”
“Door’s open, Buck.” He walked in quietly and sat on the couch.
“Everyone calm down. I’m not going to flip out. Sit down. Eat. I have leftovers in the fridge. Wolfie have you ever seen Drag Race?”
After a few drinks and lots of snacks everyone was ready to get some sleep. Ororo, Jean and Agatha headed back to the school. It wasn’t a long drive. You promised to call in the morning. No way Logan was leaving you. He set himself up in Thor’s room. Wade found the other bedroom. Bucky offered to take the couch but you asked him to sleep in bed with you.
He shot Steve a text. Instead of texting back he called.
“Hey. How’s it going over there?” Steve was very anxious. He didn’t know how to talk to you.
“Fine. I’m going to see if she’ll get some sleep. Agatha made her some tea. Said it had a mild sedative. I’m going to sit up with her.”
“Is she around? Can I talk to her?”
“You’re on speaker.”
It was quiet for a moment. “Hey, Steve. I’m ok. Well I’m not ok. I’m fucking gutted. I’m ok for now. I’ll go back with Bucky in the morning.”
“Take your time, sweetheart. We do kind of need all hands on deck though. I know the girls are dying to see you too. Get some sleep ok?”
“Ok.” and you clicked off the phone. “Has he always sounded like a worried mother or is that new?”
“Be nice” Bucky scolded. “He’s just worried. We all are. I’m going to shut off the light ok? Sleep.”
You held on to Bucky the whole night. You fought against the sedative for as long as you could but it finally won. As soon as you closed your eyes, there he was. Loki’s face was purple bruised and bloodied. His neck looked broken. His eyes were open and just stared unfocused. You tentatively reached out a hand to touch him but you pulled back.
You wanted to hit him, to scream in his face. You couldn’t bring yourself to move. Finally, you crawled towards him and situated yourself where you were laying against his chest. You used to fall asleep listening to his heart beating. There was only silence. You pulled his arm over you and tried to will him to wake up. When you squeezed him harder he turned to dust in your arms. You screamed and, judging by the look on the three men’s faces, you were screaming for real.
“Sorry, guys. Bad dream.” You settled back down and kept having the same dream. You didn’t scream anymore. You just held him as long as you could.
🟠🔴🔵🟣🟢🟡
The next morning you sent Logan and Wade home. You promised them you would be ok and that you wouldn’t murder a Titan without calling them first. You and Bucky chatted on the car ride back. The conversation was light and took your mind off of things.
When you got closer to the compound you got quiet. Seeing everyone again was making you feel anxious. Bucky held your hand. It felt like the first time you visited the compound with Wanda. Loki made you feel so safe.
You were trying to keep your emotions in check but when you saw Wanda, all of that went out of the window. She wrapped you in her arms and you melted down. “We were really happy.” Was all you could say. She and Nat took you upstairs so they could help you take a bath.
Bucky plopped in the chair. Steve looked at him like he wanted to ask a question but he was reluctant.
“How did she sleep?” he finally asked.
“She screamed in her sleep all night. Every time I thought she settled down it would happen again. The three of us took turns keeping watch. She electrocuted Wade once when he tried to shake her awake. It was pretty funny. She’s not ok, Steve.”
Steve signed and rubbed his face, “Shit. Why don’t you go take a nap and we’ll meet downstairs in a couple of hours?”
Already nodding off, Bucky didn’t have to be told twice. Steve paced outside of your door wanting to see you so badly. Finally Nat came out to get you some water.
“Does she want to eat? Can I see her?” He followed Nat down the hall bombarding her with questions.
She put her hand on his shoulder, “I know there are probably still feelings in there but you have to reign them in. She just lost her husband. Let her grieve before you swoop in.”
“I’m not swooping. Who is swooping? Wait! Husband?! They’re married?”
“Yes. Apparently he figured out a way to share his immortality with her. In doing so some elf priest split their souls and intertwined them together. If she puts back on her wedding ring she dies. It’s complicated.”
Steve’s head was spinning. He was still trying to understand the very simple fact that you and Loki were husband and wife.
“Does she want to see me?” His voice was small and timid.
Nat rolled her eyes, “Just go, Steve.”
He opened the door slowly and peered around the corner. You were sitting on the bed with your head in your hands. Wanda was rubbing your back.
He had never presumed that his relationship with you was on the same level as what you had with Loki. He did not share your twin abilities to know what the other is feeling. But this time, he could feel the despair drifting off of you like a fog.
He knelt beside the bed to try to see your face. You didn’t acknowledge him but you didn’t pull away. He had no words of comfort to give you. He could not take your pain away. He could only offer support.
“How can I help?” he whispered. You sat up and took his hands in hours. Your face was haggard and your body somehow looked frail.
“You can’t. I know it’s your nature to try to fix things but you can’t. Just be my friend.”
“Then that’s what I’ll do. Wanda, why don’t you go check on Vision? See how the plans are coming. I’ll stay here.”
Wanda was reluctant to leave. She promised not to go far. As soon as the door clicked closed Steve got into bed with you and scooped you into his lap. You buried your face in his shirt and screamed until you passed out. He held on to you as tight as he could to absorb as much as you would give.
The whole team hovered outside of your door until Steve came out. “She’s asleep. Let’s go hash this out. Let her get some rest.”

“You’d look amazing with a pup on yer hip,” he murmured, startling Steve. The blond sat up slightly and looked at him, brow furrowed. “Buck, you know I can’t-” “Yeah, yeah, Stevie, I know, but we can adopt! Just like Sam and Rhodey did with Wanda,” the alpha told him, smiling wide as he looked up at his mate. He was feeling giddy just at the thought of having a pup in their home. “Plenty of kids out there who would love to be part of our family.”
“Waffles, p’ease,” Tony murmured, laying his head on the omega’s shoulder. Steve smiled and nodded his head, carrying the little omega into the kitchen. He settled the pup onto the table and poked his nose gently, enticing a soft giggle from the boy. “Steeb, can we have choc’late chips?”“Of course honey,” the blond man said, gently tickling the boy’s side.
“Poor kid just fell down and seized right there in the exam room, totally scared the shit out of me.” Steve bolted upright, his eyes wide with panic. Tony whimpered at the sudden movement and curled into Bucky more, his little face scrunched up. The alpha tightened his hold on him and gave his omega a look.
“I wish you could be my brother, then you could stay forever,” the young pup murmured, moving around the table to hug onto Harley. The blond teen looked down at the boy with wide eyes before wrapping his arms around him and holding on tight.
“Stay away from my pup,” Bucky snarled softly, placing himself protectively between Howard and the small group of three still clinging to each other. “So you’re the one who took on my greatest failure,” the other alpha commented with a sneer. Bucky’s eyes narrowed dangerously and he got even closer into the older man’s face. “Walk away before you say something that gets you seriously hurt,” the brunet growled.
“Edward.” A shake of the head. “Benjamin.” Another shake. “Joseph.” “You’re not even trying,” Tony accused, crossing his arms over his chest. “Benjamin’s nice though. That can be his middle name.” “Oh well since you’ve already decided."
“Why do we even try to keep up with you people?” Sam grouched as he helped Steve put away everything in the kitchen. The beta was putting the glasses away in a cupboard, careful as he unpacked them from the box one by one. “Three kids and a house, I’ll never catch up.” “I don’t think it’s a competition, Sam,” Steve told him with a smile.
“You act like you’re not going to be supervised by an adult,” Harley said, cuffing the younger’s ear and smirking when the omega yelped. Since Tony was incredibly young to be in college, they’d put him in Harley’s apartment. The alpha would be able to watch out for him and since they were actually siblings, he wouldn’t be bothered by Tony going into heat. “Why do you have to crush my dreams like that?”
“Boyfriend?” Bucky asked, a growl lacing his words. “Oh stop. His name is Ty and he’s a very nice, charming alpha. Just wanted you to know before you got a whiff of him and got all rutty,” the omega told him. “Do not embarrass Tony.”
“Boyfriend?” Bucky asked, seemingly materializing out of nowhere. The brunet alpha was immediately up in Loki’s personal space, trying to intimidate and size him up all at once.
“Boyfriend, hm? A good one this time hopefully?” Steve asked, crossing his arms over his chest. “The best. Harley-approved and all,” Tony told him, biting his bottom lip as he watched Loki and his father.
He looked up and came face-to-face with icy-blue eyes. The alpha had a white coat on, meaning he was a doctor.
“I-I am so sorry, I wasn’t looking where I was going,” Tony stuttered, his face turning red the longer he looked at this alpha. The man smiled slightly and handed over some of the books before helping the omega up. “Not a problem, I was too busy looking at my phone,” the doctor told him. “Dr. Stephen Strange.”
“You have my blessing.” “Stevie!” Bucky protested. “Oh hush. You always get like this, Wade’s not even allowed in our house because you think he’s going to molest Peter,” the blond scolded his mate, swatting at the alpha. “What?” Peter asked, his voice cracking from the shock.
“You’re pregnant?” Steve exclaimed, immediately off of the couch and running over to hug the three of them excitedly. “I’m gonna be a grandma!” “Well, yes and no,” Loki said with a chuckle. “Anthony isn’t pregnant.” “Then what do you mean?” Peter asked, his brow furrowing. “Riri, you can come out now, darling,” Stephen called. Everyone watched with wide eyes as the little alpha girl came out of the kitchen, running over and hiding behind Tony’s legs.
“Honey! Babe, I’m home,” Steve called as he entered the apartment, tossing his keys onto the table by the door. He closed his door with his foot and carried the grocery bags into the kitchen. “Brock?” “Yeah, Steve, I’m comin’. I was in the bathroom,” Brock answered as he came around the corner. The omega giggled as he started pulling everything out of the bags to start putting away. He purred when arms wrapped around him from behind.
“You- You hit me!” Peter exclaimed. “You never hit me!” “I didn’t mean to! You wouldn’t get off’a me!” “‘Cause you won’t talk to me! Wade, I’m your best friend, why won’t you talk to me?” Wade growled in frustration and pulled his hood further down over his face when he caught Peter trying to look at him. He smelled of angry, anxious alpha over his unique taco and iron smell.

“You feeling okay?” “I’m fine,” Steve assured him, “Just Braxton Hicks.” Bucky looked surprised at that. “I’ve been having them off and on all day, it’s no big deal.” “Is it bad?” he pressed. “We can go home if you’re not comfortable, y’know.” “I’m fine, Buck.” Steve squeezed Bucky’s hand. “Really, it’s okay. On this planet, there are now seven souls—that they know of—led by URSA’s finest, most driven Captain; an Omega named Steve Rogers and his loyal Alpha, Bucky Barnes. The mission is hastily aborted when a freak storm of unimaginable proportions hits suddenly, forcing the team to leave the surface of the planet—all but one. Bucky Barnes is left behind, assumed dead by all, even his grief-stricken Omega. The vast distance between them increases every minute, and it might be more than he—and his mate—are capable of handling. Bucky is 37 years old; he’s unmarried, hasn’t had a Sub of his own, is definitely not ripped, comfortable at his job as an Advanced Practice RN at Brooklyn General ER, and just got his Five Years coin from AA. Steve is 26 years old; he’s unmarried, his last and only Dom has Alzheimer's, he's worryingly muscular, uncomfortable in his job as the government’s poster Alpha for masculinity and strength, and worries more than he should about his BMI. Unfortunately, Steve and Bucky meet initially in a not-cute moment. Bucky’s tired as shit thanks to the sudden alien invasion that shook New York and Steve is tired as shit because he hasn’t slept more than 20 minutes at a time in – well, since 1936, probably. Bucky’s Alpha instincts get irritated at the sudden presence of another "Alpha" into his territory and Steve’s suppressed submissive tendencies latch onto this grumpy bachelor Alpha and he only suppresses it further. Bucky’s grumpiness and Steve’s duckling impressionism aside, both of them are a mess. But since both of them are a mess? Their messes seem to fit pretty well together.

Steve is a sickly adult omega who lives under the custody of the state in the 1940's. He's always insisted on riding out his heats alone but after the disaster that was his last cycle he is forced to choose: pair with one of OmegaHouse's support alphas, or undergo a therapeutic procedure to fulfill his heat.
Much to Steve Roger's chagrin, a handsome new alpha is assigned to his hall at the Brooklyn Heights OmegaHouse.
Things in the House haven't changed too much in the past year and a half. Well... some things have. Steve's turned eighteen now, he's started courses at the community college. Alexander Pierce has been elected the 33rd president of the United States. Oh, and James/Bucky? He's Steve's hall alpha and he's kind of growing on him. Until he isn't.
Another look into the lives of Steve Rogers and James (Bucky) Barnes at the Brooklyn Heights OmegaHouse. Steve and Bucky are still diametrically opposed.
Things've been confusing between them ever since his heat. Bucky had given Steve what he’d needed, and Steve’s been feeling indebted to him ever since. He’s got newfound respect for Bucky. And… maybe something else. He hasn’t put a name to it yet, has been too afraid to. But it’s been plaguing his thoughts. According to House rules it’s probably inappropriate, but neither one of them knows what to do about it.

Homecoming
Tumblr media
A/N: This is for @xxloki81xx 200+ celebration. Congrats again love! This one shot was written with the above moodboard in mind.
Description: You have dreamed of a life away from your hometown. After moving across the country for college, you realize that home is where you belong.
Pairings: Steve Rogers x Reader  Various others x Reader (platonic)
Warning: Feels. A boyfriend getting handys, but nothing extreme.
Word count: 3,600+
Time is a funny thing. The years slipped by fast, but at the same time, they dragged on, as did you. It was time to admit defeat. Time to pick yourself up and accept the help that had been offered over and over again. You were never one to willing give up. Nor were you the one to easily accept that people loved you. That no matter what, you can’t push away family. Especially the ones that choose to be your family.
Milford Springs is where you were born and raised until you left the mid-sized town after high school. You studied hard, applied for every scholarship known in existence, and said goodbye to your mom, brother, and the friends you had known all your life. Including Steve.
Steve wasn’t always your friend and he wasn’t always the love of your life. All through elementary school and junior high, he was kind of your enemy, except, he didn’t know it. He was always on the small size, but his personality was big. Always getting into fights and preaching right from wrong. You hated that. Hated it because you weren’t perfect and he made you feel even worse. He was friends with your brother despite your brother being a year older than the two of you. Your brother was perfect, still is. The son that could do no wrong, your mother’s favorite even if she did deny it. The two of them always seemed to be on a crusade and didn’t want anything to do with the likes of you when they were together. You were the one getting into trouble in class for talking and gossiping. Natasha was the bad influence, although she always seemed to side step any punishments that were being handed out.
It was sophomore year in high school when you learned that you no longer despised Steve. Natasha and Bruce were on a double date with you and Brock. It was technically only your second date with Brock despite knowing him for the last few years and hanging out with him in group situations. After watching your football team lose horribly in their season opener, the four of you decided to grab a late night bite at Rosco’s Diner. It was always a popular spot, being located only a few blocks from your high school. Plus, they had great milkshakes.
Natasha and Bruce had just finished their burgers and were getting ready to leave.
“My dad changed my curfew, I’ve got to split,” Natasha said.
“Naaaattt,” you whined. “Don’t leave me.”
“Bruce has been keeping me out too late,” she wiggled her eyebrows. “Dad’s been cracking down on me getting home before midnight on weekends.” She shrugs her shoulders and pushes Bruce out of the booth.
“Me? Keeping you out? I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around,” Bruce said. He throws his arm around her shoulder and pulls her close.
They are so cute.
“Fine, fine. Go home. Call me tomorrow,” you grumbled.
Brock stuck out his hand and Bruce shook it. You and Brock chuckled as he was clearly going for a high five.
“Night guys,” Brock said.
Your milkshake arrived a few minutes later and you eagerly dug in, using the spoon because it was far too thick at that moment to drink with the straw.
“Slow down, babe. You don’t want to get a stomach,” he says, nudging your side with his elbow.
“Gee, thanks, Brock,” you sassed, taking another large spoonful of ice cream goodness. Brain freeze be damned!
You already weren’t the most confident person, but to hear the guy you’re interested in say that, it hurt.
When the inevitable brain freeze did happen, you pushed the glass away, to allow it to melt a bit. Brock put his arm over your shoulder and pulled you until you were snug against his side, kissing the top of your head. After his comment about your stomach, you weren’t into the affection he was offering. You attempted to pull away, but his firm grasp wasn’t leaving any room. He curved further into you where there was zero space. With his free hand, he cradled your chin and pulled it to him into a kiss. As soon as his lips touched yours, you moved your face away.
“Knock it off Brock, I’m not in the mood.”
It wasn’t your first kiss with him, no, he eagerly kissed you outside your house on your first date. That one had been exciting. Brock was a senior and pretty popular in school. The fact that he wanted to kiss you, just an average sophomore, set your world a blaze.
Ignoring your request, he leaned in further nuzzling your ear, keeping you close with his arm around your shoulder. You pulled your head to the side to get out of his reach, but that only gave him more access. With his free hand, he trailed his fingers under the hem of your t-shirt, skimming your stomach.
You slapped his hand away. “Stop. Brock, I said stop!”
With a little momentum, you were able to shove off of him and push him to the end of the bench.
Enter one, Steve Rogers.
“I think the lady said stop,” Steve said.
“Get out of here Rogers. Mind your business,” Brock snarled.
Brock had a few inches on Steve in both height and size, so it was a good thing Brock was still seated. Before Brock could utter another word, Steve socked him right in the nose. Blood trailed down his face. Brock grabbed napkins from the table and covered his face.
“You’re dead Rogers!” he roared.
Thinking fast, you grabbed your milkshake and dumped it on Brock’s head and then proceeded to push him out of the booth. Now the entire restaurant was watching with fellow classmates laughing.
“Were done!” he said, pointing a stiff finger at you. “And you’re still dead, Rogers.”
Brock stomps his way out of the restaurant and all you can do is laugh. Steve takes one look at you and changes his angry face to one with a smile. After your giggles subside, he holds his hand out for you to grab. You get to your feet and contemplate calling your brother for a ride. You don’t live far, but the thought of walking home alone is a little unsettling.
“How about I buy you another milkshake and then walk you home, doll?”
Heat instantly rises to your face and by the dopey look on his face, you know he can see it too. Rather than risk saying something stupid, you bite your lip and nod your head.
Over the next few weeks, you fell head over heels for Steve and he with you. Steve was your everything that year, your first make out, your first over the clothes touching, under the clothes touching, and the first person you had sex with.
The two of you waited until school was out for summer before taking that next step. You were going away at the end of June through the end of August to a math and science camp for elementary aged kids. Neither subject was your favorite, but you did well enough in both classes that you applied for the minimum wage job figuring it would look good on your college applications. As much as you loved Steve, you still wanted to get out of Milford Springs.
The time away was hard and you often spent hours at night crying because it was your decision to leave. Steve wrote you letters twice a week and you responded to every one of them. He told you about life at home. How your brother liked having his friend again and how Bucky often felt like the third wheel. He told you about Natasha and Bruce still being the old couple of the group and the new kids, Wanda and Pietro who had just moved to town. You missed home quiet a bit, but really you just missed him.
Coming home from camp was both a blessing and a little heartbreaking. You and your mom had never really gotten along. You often blamed yourself as the reason why your dad left. You had heard from other relatives by accident that your parents wanted to wait a few years to have another child after your brother was born. And while it wasn’t your fault you existed, you still felt like it was. Your brother had talked about what a great summer he had and how light hearted your mother had been. Except now that you were home, you couldn’t help but notice her sullen mood. Money had always been hard growing up, and you supposed having only one other mouth to feed over the summer had helped that burden. Now here you were in need of new clothes and spending money for school. You did what you could to help that burden by often eating at friend’s houses, working as much as you could by babysitting in junior high, getting a job at the diner shortly after turning sixteen, and the summer camp this summer.
Shortly after junior year had started, you quickly became friends with both Wanda and Pietro. Wanda easily fit in with you and Natasha. The three of you going to each other’s houses when the boys were together. Much to Steve’s dismay, Pietro often joined the three of you. You had assured Steve that there were no feelings there and that it was probably a twin thing that made Pietro want to hangout with the three of you.
The diner was only able to give you hours twice a week, three times if you were lucky. The lack of hours allowed you to spend time with Steve as well as your group of friends that was ever expanding. It seemed to always be you, Steve, Bucky, Sam, Natasha, Bruce, Wanda, Pietro, and Maria hanging out for hours in someone’s backyard after school. Sometimes your brother would join your group, but being a senior this year, he often spent time with his own friends.
Your rather large group of friends had been through a lot together. Wanda and Pietro’s parents divorced in the middle of junior year and there was a time they were worried about being split up with each living with one parent. That didn’t happen, but that fear lasted almost a year while the divorce was in process, especially when their mom moved thirty miles away. Maria and Sam got together at the end of junior year and were off and on all summer. It often split the group during their off time, but it never had a lasting effect. By the time classes were back in session, they were friends again and it stayed that way. Natasha and Bruce broke up for a very long four month period senior year, only to get back together right before graduation.
Through all the ups and downs of those formative high school years, Steve was your constant. The two of you had several deep conversations in the months leading up to graduation. You had gotten a few scholarships that would cover most of your college years, but they would bring you to California. Steve was joining the Army and would be starting basic training in June. The two of you were going your separate ways. There were no promises of writing or calling. There were no hopes shared of being together over summers or even when college was done. You loved each other and didn’t want to break each other’s hearts if those promises weren’t kept. The night before he left, he spent the night in your room. The two of you making love, holding each other, sharing memories, and falling asleep in each other’s arms.
You were flying out to California with nothing more than two suitcases of clothes. You planned to find a Target or Walmart when you got there to purchase bedding and things like shampoo and body wash. Most of the money you saved was used for your airline ticket as well as transportation to your university. Of course, you had additional funds to help with the cost of food and things you would need throughout the year. You planned on getting a job on campus to keep that savings fund going. You and the girls spent the weekend together at Natasha’s house pigging out on pizza and popcorn. They talked about flying out to the West Coast in search of movie stars and a nice tan, but you didn’t get your hopes up. All of them were staying in your home town, a few going to the nearby state college or community college in town. It was expensive to fly across the country and the fact that you would have a roommate meant they wouldn’t be able to stay with you.
Sam drove you to the airport. The two of you had become close over the last year and he was the first to volunteer. He knew that Steve wouldn’t be in town and he wanted to make sure you had someone strong to say goodbye to. While you were happy that your goal of going to college out of state and somewhere warmer was coming true, you cried. You were never more thankful that Sam Wilson was there to hold you together and tell you to wipe your nose before going to the check-in counter.
During your junior year of college your brother had called you late in the night. His voice quivered and he could barely make it through the call. Your mom had passed away in the middle of the night. The doctors said it was a heart attack. You were numb.
You found a cheap flight, a middle seat, for the next night. You e-mailed all of your professors to explain why you would be missing class for a week and a half and they understood, promising to e-mail you assignments and send you notes.
You didn’t cry when your brother picked you up from the airport, nor did you cry when you went to your childhood home to clean it out. Your mom had been renting it for years and although the landlord understood, he needed to put the place back on the market within a month. Most items were bagged up for trash and a few boxed up for your brother to store in his garage until you could retrieve them.
The nights leading up to the funeral were spent thinking about your mom. How you wished that you and her could have been closer. How you wished you would have told her you loved her more. How you wished that you would have listened to her when she begged you to come home the last three Christmases and summers. But still no tears.
The day before the funeral, Natasha had stormed into the house. Fiery red hair pulled back into a messy bun, eye makeup smudge. She was upset that you hadn’t called her when you got to town. Rightfully so as she had left you numerous messages, but you just couldn’t return them. Despite her anger, she took one look at you and wrapped her arms around you. It was only then that the emotion you held inside was released. A sob broke from your body that you didn’t even recognize the sound of. But it was you. She held you in her arms and encouraged you to cry, telling you that she would yell at you later, but now wasn’t the time.
The rest of the gang funneled in throughout the day bringing pizza and beer. Well, everyone but Steve. Wanda told you he was in town on leave, but he had a girlfriend now and figured it wasn’t right to stop by. Your heart of crushed. You knew he would eventually move on, the two of you making no promises of waiting. Even you had dated over the last three years. Nothing serious, but there had been a few men that had kept you company from time to time. But he didn’t come.
With Bucky’s well-placed threats, Steve did show up to the funeral, sans girlfriend. He didn’t speak to you before the service, but pulled you into a hug at the small reception after. Steve Rogers had changed. He was taller than you remembered and certainly had gained pounds of muscle. But those blue eyes were the same and it took everything in you not to breakdown at the sight of them. With soft spoken words of “I’m sorry”, followed by whispers of “I miss you”, you pulled away from him offering nothing but a thank you and a tight smile.
Back in California you finished out your junior and senior year with a few more phone calls to Natasha and some of the gang, but you were still distant. You didn’t hear from Steve again, but you also didn’t reach out. He had a girlfriend. Contacting him would only break your heart more.
After graduation, you accepted a job at an advertising firm. It’s what you’ve always dreamed of. You and Natasha would spend hours talking about what you’d be when you grew up and now that you finally had, you felt like you had no one to share that with. Even though the two of you still spoke, it had become harder to connect. She had a job of her own as well as Bruce.
The job you accepted was for an assistant with promises of a quick promotion of having your own accounts and working directly with a team. The first year you took in stride. Most of your days were spent on errands, proof reading, and making appointments. The job paid the bills and then some, but it wasn’t fulfilling.
One year turned into two and it wasn’t getting any better. You knew you were stuck, but you didn’t know how to get out.
Over those first couple of years, Natasha and Bruce got married but you couldn’t getaway from work to make it back to the East Coast. Part of you knew you didn’t try hard enough. Wanda had gotten married to Sam Wilson of all people, but you missed that wedding too. Bucky had a baby boy with a girlfriend he started seeing shortly after your mom had passed. You always sent a card and gift for these life moments, but it wasn’t enough. You missed your family.
When the third year of being a glorified assistant at the advertising firm was more than half over, you had enough. You called your brother who was still as painfully single as yourself and asked if you could come home. He called you stupid for even asking and told you to get your butt home. Lucky for you, your landlord agreed to let you out of your lease.
Giving your two weeks’ notice never felt so satisfying. You sold your furniture and boxed up the items you wanted to keep to have them shipped to your brother’s house. It took you seven days to drive home, stopping when you were tired or just needed a break from the road. You didn’t tell anyone you were coming back, mostly embarrassed that you failed in your endeavors. But you should have known your brother wasn’t quite so secretive.
You called him when you were a few hours away to make sure he’d be home because all you wanted to do was sleep in his spare room. Pulling into his driveway, you were suspicious to see so many cars in the driveway and along the street in front of his house. Grabbing just your backpack, figuring you could grab the rest of your stuff later, you made your way up the walk and knocked on the door. The door opened quickly and you were pulled in by the petite redhead with a swollen belly rather than the lanky arms of your brother.
“What?!” you screeched.
“I could say the same for you. Maybe call me back a little more.”
You bashfully nodded your head and wrapped your arms around her.
“I’m glad you’re home. Couldn’t have you being out of state when your God Daughter is born.”
And just like that, you were crying. “Are you sure?” you sobbed, still embraced in a hug.
She pulled back and looked you in the eyes. “You’re family and we’re glad your home.”
Natasha smacked your butt and you yelped, proceeding to climb the stairs.
Everyone was in the living room with a few in the kitchen. You were passed from Bucky, to Wanda, to Maria, to Bruce, to Pietro, to your brother who took your bag, to Sam who held on to you a bit longer than the rest. When you tried to pull away for the 3rd time, he stopped you, and leaned into your ear.
“Steve’s here. He’s in the kitchen.”
Your heart stopped and you couldn’t speak. You shook your head no and tried to figure out if you could escape to your new room without him seeing you.
“He broke up with that girlfriend shortly after your mom’s funeral. I don’t think he’s been with anyone serious since. You should talk to him.”
“Sam, I don’t know,” you replied, shaking your head again.
“Even if nothing comes of this, your both family and I want my family to be able to be in the same room.”
You sighed and nodded. He was right. Sam squeezed your shoulder as you made your way into the kitchen. Steve sat at the island with a beer bottle in his hand.
“Hey,” you said.
He quickly lifted his head, bright eyes on display and a dopey grin. You missed him so much.
“Where’ve you been? Feel like you’ve been away too long,” he teases.
Steve stands and takes the three steps it takes to get to you. Hesitantly you reach for him and it takes him no time to accept your embrace. You pull back with your arms still on his waist.
“You know, I think I’ve found my way home.”

Just A Typo (9/?)
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Hacker!Reader
Summary: It was a simple challenge between a very competitive group of friends. A challenge that ended very differently than anticipated.
Warnings: None
Word Count: 2171
A/N: Sorry to anyone who was tagged earlier and found nothing. I have no clue what happened but here is part 9 finally!
Tumblr media
Left. Another left. Left again. Ooo, a right this time. Straight on for a bit. And another left. It wasn’t long before I began to get dizzy. Every corridor looked the exact same and I started to wonder if Bucky was just guessing with every turn.
Lucky for us, we had yet to bump into anymore of my kidnappers. Bucky had informed me while we were running that it had been Hydra who took me, this building being a lesser-known base of theirs.
I glanced at Bucky, amazed at how he wasn’t even the slightest bit out of breath. He looked like a male model. I had no idea how he did it. I was panting like a dog and sweating like a pig. The sweat served only to glue my hair to my forehead. My legs were burning, each step causing a fresh wave of pain through my entire body. I was regretting every time I ignored Angie when she asked if I wanted to go to the gym. I'd definitely have to go from now on, this was embarrassing.
We took a final right-hand turn and I noticed the large double doors up ahead. We burst through them, Bucky still holding his gun up as we ran, just in case.
“Oh! Fresh air! Sunlight! How I missed you!” I exclaimed, my arms outstretched, inhaling deeply.
When I reopened my eyes (which I hadn’t realised I closed in the first place), Bucky was staring at me incredulously. I simply shrugged my shoulders at him and we carried on.
I was grateful for the lack of Hydra soldiers we had come across as we made our way towards the Quinjet which they had landed a little away from the base.
I could only imagine how red my face was when we finally reached it. The ramp was down already so I dropped to my hands and knees and began crawling the rest of the way into the Quinjet. Bucky chuckled quietly to himself.
“You doing alright?”
Instead of lifting myself into a seat, I resorted to just lying against it on the floor. Standing up was too much of an effort. “Oh yeah, I'm great. I just don’t run. It's not really my thing,“ I replied, looking around at the empty space surrounding us. “Where’s everyone else?”
He handed me a bottle of water as he sat on the chair next to the one I was leaning against. I hadn’t realised how parched I was, and the bottle was empty within seconds. Bucky had a second one beside him, passing it to me without me needing to ask.
“They're inside, drawing Hydra away from you. My job was to get you out safely, everyone else was to clear a pathway for us. They should be out soon, I already told them I've got you out, doll.”
I rested my head against his thigh subconsciously while we waited for the others. We sat there in silence, simply enjoying each other’s company. I was just glad to be out of that prison. It was comforting to know there was someone non-threatening beside me. Well, non-threatening to me at least.
I was struggling to keep my eyes open when the rest of the team finally got on board. It was impossible to fall asleep with the flurry of greetings I got. Between the gentle claps on the shoulder and the soft hugs, accompanied with an equally soft grin, I found myself nearly forgetting the situation I had been in only moments ago.
What surprised me was Natasha giving me a nod and small smile. I almost choked on my third bottle of water; Bucky’s concerned look immediately stopping the coughing. When I finally looked back at her, she had already moved on, speaking to Clint about something.
Wanda was sitting on my other side, playing with my hair. It was such a caring act that I couldn’t help but begin to drift off once again. The Quinjet was surprisingly quiet, especially considering just how many people were on board. They kept their conversations low, but as I fell asleep, I still managed to pick up on few sentences. Mainly about my well-being, but I was too tired to bother getting involved, Bucky’s thigh acting as a cosy pillow.
~~~~~
“Y/N, we’re back at the tower.”
I faintly recognised Bucky’s low tone speaking to me. Opening my eyes slowly, I scanned the Quinjet and noticed it had been emptied of both people and equipment. Anything the team had taken from the Hydra base had been removed and brought inside already. Bucky must have stayed and allowed me to sleep for as long as possible. I didn’t know how to thank him for the gesture. All I could do was nod and smile at him.
Still drowsy from my great nap, he held my arm as we walked inside. We immediately went to the doctors in the tower, much to my chagrin. Bucky stayed with me, joking that he was my ‘designated babysitter’ now. As much as I appreciated the thought, I couldn’t help but wish I was alone when the doctor began checking my arms. It took Bucky exactly three seconds to notice the bruises.
“What the hell are those?” He demanded. He stood beside me, inspecting my arm closely. I avoided his eyes.
“Umm… apparently a bit of electrocution can cause bruises. Who’d have thought it, right?” He completely ignored the awkward response I gave and asked if it hurt at all. I shook my head, telling him I hadn’t even seen them until about ten minutes beforehand.
The doctor kicked Bucky out shortly after that, claiming that the rest of her examinations would need to be carried out in private. When he offered to wait for me outside, I declined. “Go ahead. I'm sure you’ve got some briefing to be at. I'll be okay. I know my way around the tower.”
It took longer than I expected to convince him I'd be fine. When he finally agreed to leave, the doctor turned to me with a smile.
“You know, he’s always been very reserved around everyone, but he seems to like you a lot.”
I scratched the back of my neck and laughed with embarrassment.
“Bucky? Nah, he… he doesn’t think of me like that.”
She chuckled. “If you say so.”
~~~~~
She let me go when she eventually decided she was satisfied with my condition, informing me that the bruises on my arm were the worst of the damage and they would fade after a week. She stated that I was lucky that I didn’t come back in a worse shape, considering what Hydra tended to do to their victims.
I wandered through the halls, not having anywhere I needed, or wanted, to be in that moment. It was quieter than I expected, but it was fairly late. The great thing about Tony was that he never overworked his employees, he’d much rather overwork himself. That was also one of the worst things about Tony. Pepper had thanked me on many occasions for giving him an excuse to take a break. Everyone else in the tower wasn’t much better. If they weren’t on a mission, they were either training for the next one or writing up reports on the last. I couldn’t remember the last time they had all even watched a movie together, and I made a mental note to myself to force them to the cinema soon.
As I strolled past one of the many offices, I heard a screech behind me. Whipping around instantly, I was greeted with the sight of a blur moving towards me at full speed. It was a fairly long corridor, so I had time to decide whether the blur was dangerous and I should run, or whether I was better off just giving into my curiosity and seeing what it was.
The blur was still coming towards me quickly, persistent in emitting some kind of scream. It was a few seconds later when I realised that scream was my name and that blur vaguely looked like my lunatic friend.
“Y/N!”
“Becca, wait- oof!”
I collapsed onto the ground under the weight of Becca throwing herself on top of me.
“You gotta stop doing that to me,” I grunted, hugging her while simultaneously trying to get her off me.
“Then stop getting yourself into life-threatening situations, you doof,” she exclaimed, her grip on me only tightening further. I gasped dramatically for air, completely giving up on attempting to move. My vision darkened and for the briefest moment I thought that Becca had finally cut off my air supply entirely. When that darkened view began to grin at me, I realised it was Angie standing above us, blocking out the lights overhead and smiling widely. My joy at seeing vanished immediately when I noticed the smallest glint of mischief in her eyes.
“Don’t you dare.”
She didn’t reply. All she did was spread her arms wide fling herself on top of us.
Both of my idiotic friends ignored my groans of pain and simply lay on me, refusing to move and completely silent. I huffed at the pair and looked down. Becca’s face was buried against me. She hadn’t spoken for a whole three minutes and I was beginning to get worried.
“Alright alright, I missed you both too.”
“That’s all we wanted to hear, y’know,” Becca’s muffled voice spoke out. They both decided to finally get up, each giving me a hand up. Once I was standing, they tightened their grip on my hands, both of them still smiling at me.
“Please knock it off. Neither of you have ever smiled for this long and you're freaking me out. You're going to break your face if you don’t stop.”
“Is it really so bad that we’re glad you're still alive and whipping out sarcastic comments,” Angie laughed, finally releasing her grip on my hand. Becca didn’t do the same. That woman had the grip of a python.
Seconds later, footsteps came thundering down the corridor and we turned to see Sam approach us.
“Ah… I came to warn you about your friends, but damn! You two are fast!” He said between laboured breaths.
“You good there?” I asked him, taking in his flushed appearance.
“Yeah, yeah, I'm good. I’m just not great with cardio.”
“Thank God I'm not the only one,” I mumbled, Angie nodding in agreement. She, of all people, knew how unfit I was. After two flights of stairs I'd be trying to roll myself the rest of the way.
Sam laughed in reply. “That’s why I normally just fly everywhere. Gotta be smart about these kinds of things,” he said, giving me a pointed look.
~~~~~
Our party of four agreed to go for a stroll through the tower together. Well, I suggested it. Becca and Angie would not be letting me out of their sight for the foreseeable future, and Sam was just there for the laughs. It was refreshing for him to be around normal people, or as close to normal he could get in his crazy world.
Steve and Tony found our group in the kitchen. Sam was making us a gourmet meal that consisted of leftover Chinese food and some questionable brownies.
“Wanda tried to remake your brownies, but I think she forgot some important ingredients. Like flavour,” he had explained.
“Something smells… inedible,” Tony said as a greeting. Sam began arguing with him, claiming there was nothing wrong with the food. Steve stood by Tony, a small smile on his face. I noticed he was glancing at me every so often, and each time he did, his smile would falter the slightest bit.
“Alright, just spit it out Steve,” I said to him, effectively stopping everyone else’s conversation and drawing their attention to us.
Steve looked at Tony for help, who only gestured towards me, silently telling him to go ahead. He took a deep breath and I could smell the apology I was about to get for whatever inconvenience was soon to happen.
“The team has been talking,” he started, and I noticed he was using his ‘Captains’ voice’, which he only ever used when he was delivering bad news. “And we all agreed that for the next while, you would be safer living here with us. We know it's not ideal, there's a lot of people here already, but it's for your own safety.”
There was a little pause before I decided to respond. “I don’t really have a choice in this, do I.”
He shook his head, Sam giving me a playful pat on the back, promising I at least won't hate it.
“On the bright side, Nat has offered to train you so you can defend yourself next time.”
My eyes widened. Each word he spoke caused a spark of panic inside me and I couldn’t stop my voice from rising several octaves.
“Nat? But she hates- what do you mean ‘next time’?”
End of the game
Avengers (and Matt Murdock) x Reader
Sum: Game has played and the war has won, now live with it's consequences.
AN: My attempt at angst
Steve Rogers:
         It’s hard to hear what was being said from so far away. Mouths are moving after Sam approached. A small glance towards you before he was at this familiar stranger’s side.
           “It was beautiful,” said in the same tone as the rest but might as well be screamed.
           A verbal gunshot through your heart.
           Your bleeding out with realization with every clear cloud. When an opportunity arose to with the one you love nobody would pass it up. The years and decades you dreamed of, Steve had lived it without you, living in a house bought with a wife with someone else’s face, having children that weren’t yours.
           Your Steve had left in a machine of science-fiction come alive. It was easy to think of the billion different ways he could have been convinced to stay. Hug him tighter before he leaves, do more of those things he liked weeks before. Maybe you should hop into that machine yourself, try and start over and hope it’s good enough.
           It would never be, though. He was yours because he couldn’t have her.
           You were just borrowing him.
 Tony Stark:
         There is a weight on either side of you in the form of a person. Happy on your right and Rhodey to your left. Both there for their own grieving and to counteract the weight dragging you down towards the lake.
           Just like a wedding we’ve all had fantasies of our funeral. How we’d refuse the clichés and go our own route. That we’d be able to have a say in what happens. Change it from a day of mourning to that of celebration. Where there is to be nothing black, the music going, and drinks raised in our name. That won’t happened most of the time.
           Death is more likely to grab you before any plans can be put into action. What little can be done for the dead’s wishes still won’t change the “cliques”. Every story of a wild party, of the great deeds and everything he’s ever done that’d go in history was covered. A thick layer of depression frosting you were forced to choke down with every bite.
           You unknowingly start to waver back and forth. Happy’s arm slides into yours, your head resting into his shoulder, his head on yours.
           Pepper took the reins of the entire funeral. A strong woman handling a horrid time with the grace of a CEO. A wavered voice here and there, tears on the bridge of her eyes that refuse to fall but constantly threating to.
           That was okay, you could do that for her.
 Thor:
           “You’re still tired,” your hands disappear into his blonde beard.
           You were too after the long nights alone in New Asgard.
           “And you’re still gorgeous,” He says.
           He was probably hoping that his pick-up lines (which were starting to become cheaper than cute) would make up for his ‘loss of looks’ and detachment from you in the five years. Ironically you had gained muscle; Brunnhilde putting you to work minutes after arriving to New Asgard.
            “And I’m gonna throw up,” The, despite Thor’s protests, raccoon says from a chair somewhere in the background.
           You probably had roommates before, maybe even gone to college. But this ship, although massive on the outside, was cramped on the inside. Dorm with roommates wasn’t the best description of the ship. Camping would be a better way of putting it. Sharing a tent with several people, things and animal that yells at you is the best way to describe.
           There was no way Thor would leave the Earth again without you. With only one thing left to lose he wouldn’t be leaving you alone.
 Bucky Barnes:
         Bucky falls backwards like he’s full of cement. Although the comforter feels to be almost half a foot thick it still bounces you when he lands. He only made it to the middle of the bed, legs hanging off the side and spread out. With his long hair and beard it could be considered religious imagery.
           “You’ve slept way too much to be tired.” You comment, sliding along the bed until you were looking down at him.
           “Apparently I haven’t slept in five year.” He says, refusing to open his eyes. Another groan, bringing the metal arm over his already closed eyes. “Lights are making it worse.”
           Another headache.
           Reaching towards the lamp and clicking it off. The hotel room you’ve paid out of pocket was put into a shade of almost complete darkness. Light from the curtained window put the room into a blue haze, Bucky beneath you nothing more then a very detailed shadow.
           “How’s that?” You whisper, hands going to either side of his head.
           He nods slightly, letting his arm go down but kept his eyes closed.
           They shoot open when your hands go on either side of his head. Thumbs gently rubbing over the temples, fingers sliding through the brown hair and to his scalp.
           After the uncertainty of your touch is gone it’s like watching a full puppy. Trying their best to stay awake with a tummy full of food and laying down in a large blanket. Little noises at the back of the throat, whining that he was starting to fall asleep when he wanted to stay awake.
           His head curls backwards when your hands slide through his hair. Scratching your way back upwards and smoothing the brown locks back down.
           By the time your thumbs rub over his eyebrows his jaw slackened and let the moans out easy. Every hardship of the last day, past problems he’d live with forever were all gone. At least for a moment, with your scratches and gentle touch.
 Natasha Romanoff:
           The first invitation came minutes after your face is buried in Clint’s chest. Your hands are trapped between you, his head rests onto of yours. His arms around your back; holding your weight from falling to the ground then actually hugging you.
           He stayed in arm’s length the entire ride to the farm. Only letting go when the jet’s door opened and the yelling of “Dad! Dad!” comes with the air through the open door.
           You were the new adoptive member of the Barton family. An extra plate was added to the dinner table, a guest room was always ready, and Laura’s arms were always open when you entered the room and a beer was ready in the back, farthest part of the fridge when you would eventually need to talk.
           That entire time you kept it together; lips in a thin line at any mention of the past few weeks and always a half-hearted smile towards the children who look at you with questions they aren’t allowed to ask.
           It’s ironically little Nathan who breaks the hold on your emotions.
           “Where’s Auntie Nat?” A whispered question to the older, wiser, Lila unfortunately made in the same room as you.
           Trying to hide behind your book as the tears started running worked for a few seconds before Clint appeared in place of his children. Bottle opener ready in his back pocket for the next step of the healing process.
 Bruce Banner:
           Even standing on the kitchen chair you had to stand on your tippy-tip-toes to reach the back of the arm strap. Bruce could probably do it himself, but he stays perfectly still until you tightened it perfectly.
           It horrible and unfair to say, but your lives had turned for the better in the five years. It was still a permeant memory of Bruce raising a human hand in a thumbs up for the last time before you slapped and turned on the machines.
           It took some more weeks before you felt as comfortable with this Bruce/Hulk hybrid. A horrid mix of uncanny valley and outright monster forcing a few foot gap between you for a while. When you finally closed your notebook, unofficially completing your observation, his hands almost absorbed your head when he cupped your face.
 T’challa:
         It was a waiting line to get to your man;
           His mother gets to him first. Cupping his face, kissing his face and forehead in quick succession. She coos in their mother language quickly. T’challa regressing to his mama’s little boy. Only able to stand there and take the affectionate assault.
           Next is his sister. A side arm bump and the Wakandan salute, Shuri immediately starts laughing after words. T’challa practically grabs her, pulling her into his chest in a hug that Shuri still laughs at. Better to laugh then to start crying as she so obviously wanted.
           Third was Okoye. She was respectful, butt of the spear slamming into the ground twice, an arm across her chest and fist over her heart. He, again, did the same, two handed version, of the salute. Bowing his head as she did hers.
           Finally, there was you, hands behind your back. Pretending this was the same as any other situation you had ever been in.
           He doesn’t play this game for every long. The moment you were close enough his hand goes out to your face. Cupping your cheek, forehead pressing against yours.
           This wasn’t the first time you had seen him after he came back. The first lasted mere seconds before that wizard appeared and he was gone again. That hurt worst then when the snap took him from you. At least then he hadn’t left by choice.
 Pietro Maximoff:
         It’s hard to breath with your face pressed into a toned chest and long hair getting into what little opening your mouth could get.
           He had probably thought when he reunited with you it was be romantic. He’d hugged you tight, maybe spin you around. Do all that cute sappy shit you’d mock on all the movies you unironically watched.
           When he’d reunite with Wanda it would be more intimate in the opposite direction of yours. They wouldn’t have to say as much as all the cooing and almost tears he’d express with you. Try as you might, it would be hard to match the connection the twins had with each other.
           Now, maybe if he had seen you individually after the massive battle this could have happened. Instead he found you both at the same time. Wave of emotions for both of you combined until words were impossible. A combination of both scenarios when he rushed forward. No words, and a combination of a strong hugs pressed you both into his chest.
 Peter Parker:
         May holds herself on the armchair like a teenager. Knees pressed to her chest, tea on the coffee table forgotten seconds after being set down.
           It became a weekly tradition that you’d visit at least twice a week. May would open the door with tired eyes and an even worse smile. She’s been burying herself in charity work days after the Snap, staying up her eyeballs in work to keep from coming home and seeing the empty room.
           Conversation was never the reason for your visits. Instead just taking comfort in each other’s isolation on separate sides of the living room.
           This night was no different as your own tea was already gone. Laying the exact opposite way of May with your legs outstretched and arms hanging off the chair’s arms.
           Sudden light takes over a quarter of the room. May’s legs stretch out from the chair as slow as the light had appeared. You rose at the same speed. Coming together between the chair and coffee table. May holding your shoulder, both to throw you backwards or to stop you from going forward, her nails digging into your shoulder.
           It’s dark on the other side with the only color being shifting shadows.
           Color finally comes through in shiny shades of red and blue covering one leg. Then another. Both attached to hips and a torso, leading to a brown-haired head who can’t speak through his tears.
           “Peter…” May gets him first.
           He wraps both arms around her neck, almost crushing her in a headlock. He presses his face against the side of her face. May holds him with almost equal strength. Holding him against her the same as she had after the plane crash years ago.
           The golden circle tightens and closes behind them. It’s a tie between the circle and the extremely intimate moment that you kept a generous distance from Aunt May and Peter.
           “Oh, I missed you.” She said, starting to rock him slightly.
           “I’m sorry…” She says into her shoulder. “I’m so, so sorry.”
           Your phone had five years’ worth of texts to Peter. Little good mornings and good nights. A few “I miss you” and other small messages. That Peter would read through every single one when May lets go of him grew a guilt garden in your stomach.
           Your hand reaches out and touches his shoulder. When he looks up, sees your attempt of a smile, he starts sobbing even harder.
 Stephen Strange:
           His hands are shaking more then usual now. Old doorknobs were the enemy as every door you added a stop, only after permission of course. Any meals had to be pre-cut, you casually taking his plate and going to work without a single pause in conversation.
           It hard to say if Stephen still counts as mentally human by this point. That maybe God or the universe or whatever created the world in it’s infamy had no intention of humans knowing everything that Stephen now possessed. He combs over books he’s had to had memorized by now. Snapping them closed when you’d look over his shoulder. Warning you from trying to read some as you were either not prepared or just wouldn’t be able to handle the information.
           Stephen never outright told you he wanted to be alone. Instead moving through the sanctum at a pace you jogged to keep up with. Becoming more of a puppy or a side kick then as a romantic partner.
           It’s rare that he in body sleeps. No matter if he’s twitching beside you or an astral projection above you take possession of his body. Legs wrapped around his center, arms keeping him close as possible, everything to keep him from escaping from you again.
 Matt Murdock:
         Your mug shatters across the floor. White pieces of glass stop from skirting around the floor by socks with sweatpants tucked into them.
           You should probably feel bad that you basically took over his apartment. Turning the place into an almost shrine to your lost man. Coming in every few days to make sure it wasn’t broken into during the few days you stayed at your place.
           Matt’s head tilts side to side for a few seconds. The shattering mug probably sent his senses into a spiral for a few seconds. Focusing instead on you, his partner, who had a five-year difference in their smell, heart beat and overall feel.
           Your name coming from his mouth was the greatest song ever sang.
           Hands cupping his face without saying anything. Matt standing there as you basically frisk him. Making sure he was completely there and not just some dream here to mock you.
           “Um, Honey?” He says, using the almost mocking version of a pet name.
           “If you do this again I’m gonna fucking kill you.” You whisper into his chest.
           It was a promise you made every time he didn’t answer his phone or came home late. Unsure what was going on he said the same he did every time. “Wear something nice to my funeral.”
 Carol Danvers
This moment was for Carol, a woman desperate to get drunk on nothing but you. Holding you in your practically abandoned apartment, the heater and power still out. No blanket was needed, though. Just being the little spoon with a leg over yours to keep you still would do.
           It doesn’t matter how often or not she holds you. Nobody is ever prepared for that amount of heat to come from somebody. Her star’s breath on the back of your neck, nose in your hair and arms finding every inch to feel. Make sure nothing is broken and everything is the same. Even as a superhero, and a woman, she still found annoyance at the thickness of your bra cups.
           Your turn to check her over would come later. For now, you just enjoy reaching back into her new haircut. Just to make sure it was still able to be tugged.
Predating Predators 001 - Clint Barton/Pietro Maximoff - SFW
Title: Predating Predators Author: Donnie Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe Setting: Various; Somewhere between Kosno, Poland and Novi Grad, Sokovia Pairing: Clint Barton/Pietro Maximoff Characters: Clint Barton, Pietro Maximoff, Wanda Maximoff, OC: Christabella, OC: Shasta, OC: Muni, OC: Papillon Genre: Fantasy/Romance Rating: M Chapters: 1/? Word Count: 1956 Type of Work: Chapter Fic Status: Incomplete Warnings: Gay, Slash, Yaoi, AU - Canon Divergent, AU - Myths and Fantasy, Clint is a Harpy, Pietro and Wanda are still mutants, Teratophilia, Kidnapping, Sacrifice, Witchcraft, Implied animal abuse, Implied Predation, Pietro and Wanda are 17 so I guess underage?, Underage, More To Come Disclaimer: I do not own anything, except for Christabella, Shasta, Muni and Papillon. I am also not native to Eastern Europe and do not have a very good grasp of the geography or culture beyond what I have in the source material. I have placed Sokovia roughly at the convergence of Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania, as I couldn’t find much more about where it should be placed. If anyone wants to try and help me determine a better spot for it (if this is just way off base), please let me know! Summary: When Wanda’s life is put at risk, Pietro must do the literal impossible in order to save her. He didn’t realize that seducing the apparent last male Harpy in existence was going to be a very real part of the plan. AN: Welp, I dedicate this entirely to my BFF, Ed. ; u; I love her so much, and we were discussing this last night a little bit. I got a little out of control with it, so it’ll be at least a few chapters long. My brain keeps saying THREE but something tells me that is not exactly true. At any rate, this is a pretty big shift in AU. I’m sure Avengers stuff is happening but it’s not near Sokovia, at this point. Anyway, have fun with this, kids, I know I will!
MCU Fic Masterlist Chapter One: What They Say Is True ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Life in Sokovia had never been what Pietro Maximoff would call easy. Between himself and his twin sister, things had gotten harder with the world around them. They held a bond so tight nothing could break them but each other; and it showed.
Pietro had been described as ‘wickedly fast’. He could rob an entire city blind in a blink of an eye and nobody would know it was him. Of course, he’d never bothered to do something quite that extravagant, stealing what they needed to survive and little more. After all, the twins had been on their own for a long time, now. He could think back and remember a small hand on his arm, the only thing keeping him from rocketing off, the night it had happened. They had been inseparable ever since. Wanda was what people considered a witch. Maybe she really, truly was, but Pietro had never seen anything that would make him think of those old, bawdry tales. He had yet to see her eat a baby, like many people asserted she must, or pull the tail from a rat for a potion. In fact, she never seemed to imbibe anything aside from the occasional juices and milk he was able to steal for them, and water. No potions in sight, no cats, no bats, rats or other such creatures. The only thing people shrieked about when they saw her was her ability to graze their minds. Okay, she could do a bit more than that, but most people didn’t give her the chance, if they knew about it at all. The thing that seemed to have brought their existence crashing to a pitiful end was not so much Wanda being a witch, however, so much as her affinity for likeminded women. Pietro wouldn’t say anything about her friends, but should she catch him thinking something untoward, he usually got a pointed glare. He had never quite lifted his mental guards after the last time, because he could feel her presence in his brain. If she wanted this friendship with these psychopaths so badly, then he would let her have it. But that didn’t mean that he wanted them to have her.  When Wanda didn’t come home when she was supposed to, when his days’ worth of hard work paid off and she wasn’t there to celebrate with him, to break bread with him… He began to worry.  She had insisted that they needed some time without a boy present, and that had caused him to balk for a moment, point to himself and mouth ‘me?’ at her. Her light laughter and nodding only made him pout, there was no other word for it, but he nodded and let her go. Responsibility was not exactly his forte, but he could handle things while she spent time with her friends. Now, he was starting to wish he’d followed them.  At least he knew where they usually congregated, not that that made much of a difference in the time it took to find them. Even moving faster than the eye could comprehend, it was an awful lot of forest to cover, and the four girls Wanda had fallen in with were good at nothing more than hiding their tracks. For a coven of witches in a place like this, it was an important part of their everyday life.  If he was going to have to go on a damn witch hunt, though, he wished he had made the decision not to do so on an empty stomach.  Speeding to a stop outside of the fifth camp he’d come across, he didn’t even have the decency to act tired as he pressed up against a tree and listened, straining his ears and trying to keep himself absolutely still. With what they were saying, cackling to each other, it was nearly impossible. “We should hurry, before her meddling brother shows up.” One of them was saying, slurping down something that looked less like soup and more like a thick, gloppy run-off of some kind. “No, no, we want him, too.” The eldest girl, just a few years older than him and Wanda, spoke with a little chortle, pointing her spoon at the other girl. Pietro could feel bile rising in his throat but he didn’t know if it had to do with what they were saying or what they appeared to be eating. “He could be a good…” She paused, sniffing the air, and he had to wonder if he’d falling on the wrong side of the wind. “Speak of the devil.” She spoke, finally, rising from her seat and greeting him with wide open arms. Even Pietro had no idea when he’d walked from the tree he’d been clutching and practically vibrating against to the clearing they had chosen, and he narrowed his icy eyes at them. “I want my sister.” “Well, good evening to you, too.” The eldest responded, rolling her eyes, “You never were exactly good with your manners, were you? It does show that you raised yourselves in a barn.” The venom in the cut of his eyes caused her to chuckle, waving him off as she turned around. “At any rate, she is ours, now. You cannot--” “I will take her, and she will not be yours.” The growl in his voice only caused her to turn slightly, glancing at him over her shoulder. He didn’t like how she looked down her nose at him, and he barely managed to still himself from searching the camp for his sister. “You will not have her!” The youngest, a girl just short of Wanda and Pietro’s seventeen, shouted as she rose to her feet, only to be silenced by the eldest. “Christabella--” “Calm now, Shasta.” Christabella responded, her lips pulling into a sneer, “Pietro can have her, if he does us a few… Favors.” She clucked her tongue, shaking her head as she turned, brushing back crimson locks and turning golden eyes on the speedster. He looked pensive, but stepped up to the plate, shoulders back and head held high. Backing down was not an option, not when Wanda’s life was at stake. “You must do three simple tasks for us.”  Simple, he could handle. Difficult, that would take him five minutes. Impossible would take twenty if he really put his mind to it. “And what are these tasks?” His skepticism was rewarded with a cold chuckle and a mirthless smile that didn’t quite meet Christabella’s golden eyes.  “You will bring us the first drops of dew, before they have fallen. It is very important that they are retrieved before falling, and they will not be accepted should we find you cheated.” The blond to her left, Shasta, practically cackled. It was an impossible thing to ask of someone, nobody could move quickly enough to do such a thing. It had never been done. Pietro grit his teeth. They must not have heard much about him, or paid him much mind. Either way, he waited in a silence swarming with the friction of the air on his skin as he forced himself to remain still. Now would be no time to show off his grand speed, or they just might scrap his one easy task entirely. “The second is to collect the feather of a male Harpy.” The fourth woman, stocky and dark haired with skin the color of unprocessed cotton, smirked. A Harpy on her own was a beast to be reckoned with, but a male of the species had never so much as been spotted.They were fierce, however, enough that if he so much as tried, he would die, leaving them to their work. A Harpy could turn its own feathers to stone, should it want or need to, which only made the idea of his failure that much greater.  When Christabella went quiet and her gaggle of gossiping geese followed suit, Pietro crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes until he nearly couldn’t see despite the roaring fire. “And the third task…?” He finally tried, obviously perturbed by the quiver in his voice. “Should you survive the first two, the third will be waiting for you here.” Christabella told him matter-of-factly, turning on her heel and settling back in front of the fire. Suddenly, it was as if their conversation had not happened at all, and he found himself shut out completely no matter how many times he tried to speak to them.  While he hated being ignored, he hated knowing that Wanda could be hurt or worse with every second that he put this off. First dew, and a Harpy. Male Harpy. This was going to be great, just great. The first one sounded easy enough for someone with his abilities, but the Harpy thing was… Honestly driving him to tap his hand against his hip so quickly he was sure he’d knock himself over.  “I need a drink.” He murmured, knowing he wasn’t quite old enough to have one, before he went stock still. A drink. That was it! If there was a place in every village and town from here to Russia and back, it was a bar. And where there were bars, there were superstitious old men ready to spill their ideas about every mythical being and creature under the sun.  Between Novi Grad, Sokovia and Kosno, Poland, he managed to find a rumor that lead him to a specific bar, in a specific, small but scenic village just short of being a clump of houses in the middle of nowhere. There were whispers of a Harpy that lived high on the mountain, perched in a way that nobody could actually travel beyond the treeline on any side. They said he (and definitely ‘he’ every time) was strong and impossibly voracious, but that wasn’t exactly turning him away.  With a new outfit under his belt, a thick coat with layers and lined in wool, thick pants and boots he could still run in, and a thickly woolen balaclava to keep himself from freezing to death, Pietro Maximoff was ready to scale a mountain and take care of this once and for all.  While the trees and animals alike could have taken his breath away with their beauty, the sunsets and rises being something he could have actually stood and waited for, something else was cutting off his oxygen the higher up he went. Height, he remembered, had never been his friend, and he’d just about sped off past the treeline before he started to feel light headed, out of breath, and sluggish. Maybe ‘sluggish’ for PIetro Maximoff was more of a regular pace, but when he finally staggered from the treeline and gazed up at the cold, unforgiving grey sky above him, he had to harden his resolve. This was for Wanda. She would die if he didn’t succeed. A small thought pressed at the back of his mind, flavored in her voice.  But if you die, we will both perish. Shaking the thought out of his head, snowflakes persistent in their agenda to cling to his hood, he scanned the mountainside as far as he could see. Where was this nest he was looking for? It would have been more helpful to come up here with someone who knew the area, or at least a hand-drawn map on a napkin, anything would be better than coming up blind. A whistle behind him sounded less like wind and more like an animal, and when he turned, muscles tense, he barely had a second before something heavy, hard and sharp collided with his head and he went down like a sack of bricks.  ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ AN: Welp, there we are, the first chapter. I’m excited to get into the next one, even if this isn’t going to go very long. I really have no plan, just kind of… Flying by the seat of my pants. At any rate, I got this out in record time. I hadn’t quite expected it to go as well as it did. I hope you guys enjoyed! If you want more, keep in mind that nothing motivates me to finish something like feedback!
Ghost, Chapter 6 - “All These Pretty Lights”
A/N: Happy Halloween, guys! I know it was yesterday, but it’s never too late, is it? This chapter was written inspired by “All These Pretty Lights (Alternate Version)” by Andrew Belle. I hope you enjoy.
Summary: Reader understands a few things about herself and the new phase of life she’s living. It’s Halloween night and Bucky offers himself to take Aaliyah for her first “trick or treat” with reader.
Word count: 2205 words.
Warnings: a tiny bit of angst, fluff, old lady being the cutest, reader acting like a mom, existential crisis.
Tumblr media
Three weeks later
“Let me tell you, Y/NN” my therapist began. That was my third session of therapy and I decided to take it just because I concluded something with Wanda’s help: if I wanted to raise Aaliyah properly, I should have a more stable emotional ground, which is something unstable for me. “Fortunately, you had some progress, which is great.”
“Thanks.” I said.
“I’m not finished yet.” She said.
“That was rude.” I pointed while laying on that couch. It definitely was like the movies, except it was worse – she’d ask questions that’d make me question my existence, my intelligence and even who I am.
“The thing is” She began while taking notes. “You need to come to therapy for the right reasons. The first time you came here, you told me it was because you needed to be more controlled about your actions and words.”
“That’s right.” I looked at her and she was looking at me as if I was the most oblivious person in the whole world. “Wrong?”
“Why don’t you tell me?” she asked me. “You told me about how unstable you are and told me that you wanted to improve yourself so you could be a good person for that little girl you adopted.”
“Yes, that’s what I want.” I commented. “I want to be better, for her.”
“Why don’t you try to be better for her and for yourself all at once?” She asked once again. “You told me your superior called you an emotional bomb… is that “emotional bomb” you hold within yourself something about your childhood?”
I actually don’t remember much of my childhood, except when I was with my grandmother, by my 12 years old. Before that? I can’t quite remember anything.
“I don’t think so.” I answered while forcing my mind so I could try and remember anything before I was twelve, even though I couldn’t. “I don’t remember my life before I was 12, nothing of it.”
“After that?” She asked.
“The death of my grandmother, I think.” I answered while shrugging. “She was the only family I had, she taught me a lot.”
“We have a pretty cool thing happening here.” She commented while smiling. I was about to talk when she lifted a finger for me to stop. And I did. “To Ali, the little girl you adopted, you want to be the figures, the references you haven’t had in your life; or that you can’t remember having.”
“In a brief” I began. “I want to be mother and father to her, but I don’t know how?”
“It’s not completely right, but also it’s not wrong.” She answered after nodding.
“Would you recommend me to know more about my life?” I asked. “About how my parents were?”
“Do you feel the necessity of doing that?” she asked. “I mean, after having your grandmother as a strong reference of family in your life?”
“Not at all.” I answered after thinking for a few seconds that looked more like minutes.
“Then don’t do it.” She commented. “How’s next week for you?”
“For the next session?” I asked while sitting up. She nodded. “Same day of the week, same hour, I think… I’ll let you know if I need some changes.”
“Okay, so, see you on next Thursday.” Doctor Vanessa said and I left the clinic.
 “So, how was your session?” Craig asked. “Therapy, I mean.”
“I made some progress, I think.” I answered. I was on the second round to finish my back tattoo, and Craig had just started to paint the dragon. “That’s what my therapist told me.”
“That’s good.” Craig said and left out a chuckle.
“What are you laughing at, old man?” I asked and looked back at him.
“Do you remember the conversation we had, the one about settling down?” He asked and I nodded. “You found your reason to settle down.”
“When I saw that girl in the situation she was” I began. “All I thought about was that I needed to protect her, you know? I saw myself in her.”
“She lost all she had like you did when you were 12?” He asked.
“Her father is dead.” I answered. “Her mother wasn’t found… I can’t remember anything before I was twelve. All I know about my parents is what my grandmother told me.”
“And what did she tell you?” He asked.
“That my mother chose her path.” I said and sighed. “And it didn’t include me.”
“Nothing about your father?” He asked.
“No, nothing.” I answered. And it was definitely nothing.
“So…” Craig began. “Did you already put her in school?”
“The psychologist recommended us to educate her at home.” I answered. “She needs to be prepared for the interaction with children from a different culture and she’s not yet.”
“Are you going to celebrate Halloween with her?” He asked.
“Well, I was thinking of going to take some candies with her.” I answered.
“You could go with her and Caleb, by the neighborhood.” He said.
“You tell that because your son is a little rascal.” I laughed. “How do I control that kid? Can I put a dog collar on him?”
“He’s just a kid, Y/N.” Craig laughed. “He’ll behave with you, I promise.”
“I hope so.” I said. “But I still want to put a dog collar on him.”
Craig and I laughed and he kept going with the ink on my back.
 Two days later
“It’s Halloweeeeeeeeeeeen!” Caleb shouted while running around the entire compound. He was dressed like Thor, just because he was a miniature of the Asgardian God, who was surprised about Caleb’s energy.
“Caleb” I began while doing Aaliyah’s makeup. The last month, she’d been obsessed with the famous Mexican skulls, so I was trying to do my best job on her face and hair. “You’ll rip or stain your costume, I’ll make you wear pajamas to go ‘trick-or-treating’ with us.”
I didn’t think much about my costume, so I decided to buy a long white dress and a wig, so I could be dressed as Cleopatra. Bucky offered to go with me, but I didn’t know if he had a costume to go.
“There you go, Ali.” I said and gave her my phone, so she could see herself through the selfie camera. “Do you like it?”
“I love it!” She said. Her hair was in curls and Wanda had made a flower crown with pink and white delicate flowers, so Aaliyah could put on her head. She was wearing a white dress and a pair of white slippers (her pick, not mine).
“So here we have Thor, Cleopatra and a Mexican skull.” Tony said. “Where’s Barnes?”
“Guys” Nat began. “I introduce you the one and only, Julius Caesar.”
Bucky appeared wearing a bronze chest piece, a red cape, sandals and a skirt. His hair was in a low ponytail, and he held a sword.
Magnificent would be a word that defined what was in front of my eyes.
“Wow.” I mumbled.
“Can I go too, Lady Y/N?” Thor asked. “I’ve never been to that Halloween thing before.”
“You were here in other parties, Thor.” Clint said. “Also, you were with my children to grab candies last year.”
“Do you have proof?” Thor asked in an arrogant way.
“Do you want me to tell Y/N about your sugar overdose and how you woke up sitting in a flamingo floater in the pool?” Wanda asked.
“Who’s ready to grab some candies?!” Bucky said after the awkward silence.
“YAY!” Aaliyah and Caleb shouted.
  “You look stunning in that Cleopatra costume, doll.” Bucky said while we left the first house in Brooklyn, where Craig lived with his family. The kids were excited and it was doing my best to watch them and control their steps.
“It’s a little effort thing, I mean” I began. His compliment disarmed me. “Just a white dress and a wig, I didn’t do much.”
“I like it simple.” He said after pulling me by my waist to his body. My left arm embraced his body, so we could walk together.
“That’s good.” I said and we watched while Aaliyah and Caleb earned their candies at the second house.
It’d be a lie if I didn’t tell that Bucky and I were a ‘thing’. It all began with touches and innocent cuddles while watching movies and after Aaliyah came around, it began to be part of a routine. The sexual innuendos began to exist three days after I came to the compound.
When I told my therapist about that, she said that I was seeking comfort with someone as fucked up as me, but that was good because we understood the conflicts we both held within ourselves.
By the 7th house, Caleb and Aaliyah were walking slower. Bucky and I went to the door with them.
“Trick or tre-AAAAAT.” Caleb yawned.
“Trick or treat?” Aaliyah said when an old lady showed up but the door, holding a basket of candies and wearing a witch hat.
“What do we have here…” She began. “We got a sweet Mexican skull and Thor, and… Julius Caesar and Cleopatra!”
She got a hand full of the candies for each children and then smiled at Bucky and I.
“Seeing parents with their kids, with costumes and all” She began. “It’s been a while.”
“We’re not their…” Bucky began but the old lady flipped him off.
“For being supportive parents, I’ll give you something, wait for me please.” She said and entered the house again. Bucky and I looked at each other while holding our laugh. The old lady came back with a chocolate bar and handed it to me.
“Thank you, ma’am” I began. “But there is- “
“No buts here, darling.” She said. “You make me remember of my sweet Ronald and I when we were young. How sweet it is to see people in love… and it’s not even Valentine’s Day!”
She closed the door, leaving Bucky and I looking at each other.
“Did you understand what just happened?” I asked him when we began to go towards Craig’s home.
“When I understand, I’ll explain you.” He said and I nodded. I already felt the goosebumps on my skin, due to a cold weather. Bucky noticed and covered my back with his cape.
“Yes, please.” His body was warm and inviting. I couldn’t say no to that.
  “Please, Y/N” Craig began. “You were never that boring, let Ali sleep here, just for tonight.”
“She has classes tomorrow, Craig.” I said.
“She can always ditch a day of classes.” Bucky shrugged while sitting on the couch.
“Thanks, Emperor.” Craig said.
“Please, Y/NN.” Aaliyah began.
“Y/NN, please.” Caleb said.
I sighed. Could I deny a pair of green eyes tearing up like The Puss in Boots from that Shrek movie? I couldn’t. “Okay, you win.”
“Yay!” Aaliyah celebrated with Caleb, who was now wide awake due to excess of sugar.
“Now go, I take from here.” Craig said and smiled while hugging me. “Thanks for tonight.”
“It was nothing, I had fun.” I said and smirked after. “I didn’t even need the dog collar.”
“You fucking asshole.” Craig whispered in my ear while laughing. I laughed too.
 Bucky and I were exhausted to say the least. Craig had given us a cold pack of Heineken beers as a reward for taking care of Caleb and giving him back without scratches or broken bones.
Now we were admiring the Brooklyn Bridge and its lights, sipping on our beers and talking about everything, when the old lady from the 7th house came to my mind. What did she mean?
“Penny for your thoughts?” Bucky asked.
“I was thinking about the lady who gave us the chocolate tonight.” I began. “She looked amused.”
“How sweet it is to see people in love… and it’s not even Valentine’s Day!” Bucky quoted her and we cracked up laughing. “It was funny, to say the least.”
“Yeah, it was.” I said and a comfortable silence began while I looked to the lights of the bridge and drinking my second beer for the night. It looked like an eternity before I broke it. “Are we?”
“What?” Bucky asked and looked at me, confused.
“Are we in love” I began and finished the bottle with a hard gulp. “For each other?”
“I don’t know” Bucky answered. “I mean, I know about me, not about you. About how you feel.”
“Would you show me how you feel if you had the chance?” I asked him and opened my third and last beer of the night.
“Will it change what we have here and now?” He asked after thinking for a while.
“Try your luck.” I answered and I could see Bucky’s eyes wandering before one of his hands reached my chin and pulled me to him, closing the space between our lips in a sweet kiss, testing the waters. I felt my skin warming up, but my body got tense.
Bucky noticed the tension and stopped the kiss. My eyes were closed, my breathing uneven and I could feel his eyes on me. I didn’t think twice before pulling him to my body and kissing him for the second time that night.
Unusual Upbringing: @ultrarebelheart @feelmyroarrrr @punkdoor
~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was only three years later that a doctor approached you all from HYDRA.
In those three years, you’d grown somehow even closer with Pietro. With the wars, terrors, and poverty though, it didn’t make for a lot of romantic times. You didn’t get the candlelit dinners and romantic walks in the park. Your city was too in disrepair for that. But you didn’t need that when it came to Pietro. You were happy just being beside him as you helped the citizens of your area. You and the twins ran errands and got things done for the elderly and those with children, trying to help out wherever you could. It didn’t matter that you weren’t off doing overly romantic or couple like things. Watching Pietro be a hero, be a real man to all of these citizens, helping them, feeding them, caring for him when you all had so little...That was worth more to you than a million dates.
You had moved out of Wanda’s room after four months of dating Pietro and moved into his bedroom. It was a change for the better as Wanda had her own bedroom for the first time in her life and you and Pietro got more quality time together.
If you weren’t off helping the city or picking up other odd jobs to make ends meet, you were spending evenings reading, sharing with each other your favorite excerpts or poems or passages; or you went on a couple of leisurely walks every once in a blue moon; or sometimes you could manage to find a movie at the store and as a treat you would get it and curl up on the couch to watch together. If you didn’t have to be anywhere though, you just lied in each other's arms in your room, completely shut off from the world. It was those times, that for a few small hours out of your life, the invasion of military forces and poverty and hunger didn’t plague you. You two were just a normal couple, content with the feeling of being in each other’s arms.
You often spoke of the future, what you two would do if you went to college and had any career of your choosing. Pietro said he’d like to teach, be a professor. You said you’d want to be a doctor, to help people. It was a fun game for you two. You pretended you had every opportunity in the world. You spoke of what your house would look like, you and him playfully disagreeing on the kitchen’s color scheme. The two of you said what you would do if you were billionaires and came up with the craziest ideas, cars, and things to own.
But sometimes, you spoke of what you would do in real life - in this life. Children were brought up and Pietro seemed more than happy to have kids, as were you. Wanda would chime in about being the best aunt in the world. Talk of getting a cat or a dog even surfaced. Talk of really finding real jobs or trying to leave your home maybe for a better life. But no matter what you talked about, you were always on the same page. Sharing every thought equally.
The Hydra doctor had come to your apartment door and said he had a proposition. The doctor unsettled you, but at the same time, he was the first person to even resemble an ally to you, outside of the Maximoffs.
“I have a way for you to drive war out of your country, forever,” Dr. List promised as he sat across from the three of you on the couch. You held Pietro’s hand and there was no gap between you. Now that you and Pietro were romantically together, you were even more inseparable than before, constantly together, constantly leaning on each other for all sorts of support.
“If that’s true, why haven’t you done it yet?” Pietro demanded definitely. Something you loved about him was his fearlessness.
“I need people who are strong,” the doctor said simply.
“Strong enough for what?” Wanda wondered.
“I can give all three of you the power to make anyone fear you. But...it won’t be easy. There will be experiments, which you might not survive….but if you do, the possibilities are endless.”
“And if we don’t agree?” you asked, worried.
“Then you can sit and watch your home become another third world country, buried under machines, men with guns, and crumbling rubble,” he said simply.
“When do you need an answer?” you asked.
“The sooner the better, this opportunity won’t last long. I’ll say...a day. I’ll be back tomorrow for your answer. Just know that once you sign up, there is no going back.”
The doctor left, and you three were faced with a difficult decision.
“I say we do it,” Pietro said as soon as he turned around from closing the door.
“What? You would just let them experiment on you? On us?”
“Wanda...look around you. We’ve spent twelve years in this Hell, and for what? To pay for Tony Stark’s tower in New York City? To let the foreign powers that be march up and down our streets? How long are we going to be victims? This is our chance to do something about it.”
“Or a chance to get ourselves killed,” Wanda argued. “He said it’s experiments, ones that we might not survive. And you want to sign us up for that?”
“It’s either that or we can continue to live in this misery we call life. What’s the worst that can happen? We die? We already faced death once, we can do it again,” he said with a glint of sorrow and rage in his eyes.
“Y/N,” Wanda started as she turned to you. “What do you think? Do you think it’s a good idea?”
You looked between your boyfriend and your best friend. You weren’t sure. This was a huge deal. Risk your life to save your city or wait around for...what? Clearly no one was coming to help you all.
“I think we should try it,” you quietly said as you hugged yourself. “Pietro’s right. We’re just going to end up sitting in this country forever, with no happy end in sight. No one is coming to save us, no one is coming to help us. We can only help ourselves. That’s all we’ve ever done.”
“So you’re okay with them experimenting on us for god knows what?” Wanda demanded.
“The way I see it, we can die trying or live this way…” You gestured around you all. “And it might finally be a way to take down the Avengers.”
“We won’t do it unless we’re all in agreement though,” Pietro announced. “If you’re solely set against it, we won’t do it. But if you’re in, we’re all in, for better or worse.”
Wanda nodded. “Okay, let’s do this. For Sokovia. For Mama and Papa. For Annette and Phillipe,” she said, mentioning your parents with a nod.
You three hugged and Pietro kissed the tops of your heads. This was terrifying, to say the least.
----------------------
When Dr. List came for you the next day, you told him you were ready. He told you all to pack very little, as you would be provided with clothes at the base. With three small bags, and fear and hope in your hearts, you trekked out to a military style SUV. You and Pietro held hands, staring into each other’s eyes the entire ride. You were terrified, but at least you were together. Whatever you had to face, whatever you  had to go through, you had each other. Eventually all of you were taken underground, to a compound.
“What sort of experiments are these?” Wanda asked as you were ushered through hallways that seemed to house horrors your mind couldn’t even imagine. You didn’t see anything, but the fact that this compound was hidden, and you were being told very little about everything, made you get the impression that it wasn’t an incredibly safe place.
“In due time, Ms. Maximoff,” he assured. He introduced you to Wolfgang von Strucker. They explained more on the experiments and said they weren’t here to hurt you, but pain would probably come from the experiments. They introduced you to ten other volunteers in the program, all residents of your city.
After half a day of sitting in a cell together, they finally approached the three of you.
“Who would like to go first?” Dr. List asked, with three burly men behind him, and one petite assistant nurse beside him with a metal clipboard.
None of you were jumping at the chance now. This all seemed much more sinister now.
“Come now, don’t make us choose,” the doctor encouraged with an undercurrent of threat.
“I’ll do it,” you said suddenly. You couldn’t bear the thought of Pietro going under and it wasn’t right to make Wanda do it when she was the one who was most hesitant to do it. It needed to be you.
“Y/N,” Pietro said as he frowned at you. “No, you don’t have to. I can go.”
“The girl already spoke,” Dr. List said with a grin as one of the large men grabbed your forearm and yanked you out of the cell. “We’ll take her and we’ll be right back.”
Pietro and Wanda stared after you in concern, worry, and fear. They held each other’s hands as you looked back at them while they closed the door to the cell.
“What is it we’re going to be able to do...once these experiments are done?” you asked in wonder.
“We hope to achieve the impossible, Ms. Y/L/N. It will mean untold power.”
“So why don’t you just use soldiers? Someone who’s trained to fight. What good does it do to...give powers to some townspeople?” you asked while you walked along.
“So many questions,” he noted.
“I’m merely curious. I’m not backing out. We volunteered for this, I would simply like to know some more information behind it,” you gently said.
“Because soldiers don’t have the kind of heart and passion you and the Maximoff’s seem to share. You three are made of something rare - will.”
Finally, you were in a room where there was a table with straps to probably hold you down. There wasn’t much else in the room besides a counter, a computer, and a camera.
The sight before you scared you. It made you want to turn and run away. But after all you’d been through, after all the fighting, bullets flying through the air near your head on countless nights, after missiles landed and took away your family and you waited for two days for another missile to go off. You could handle this. You could handle anything they threw at you.
“So I  just lay down here?” you asked, ready to get this over with.
“If you please,” Dr. List said with a gesture to the table. He stood beside, as the three men stood in other corners of the room, and his assistant took place on the other side of the bed. They began strapping you down and you tried to calm yourself. You knew if your emotions or adrenaline went haywire it could make whatever they were going to do, a lot worse.
Once you were strapped in, they attached vital measuring units to you, and turned on the monitors and machines, and the camera, they were ready to begin.
“Go to a pleasant place in your mind, Y/N,” Dr. List said soothingly. “This may hurt a bit, but try not to focus on the pain.”
You nodded, looked straight up to the ceiling, and tried to ignore whatever sensation was about to come next. Your mind went to Pietro. His smiling face. His face when he laid next to you at night. The feeling of his fingers over your skin in the most tender and intimate moments between you two. The sound of his voice as he lulled you to sleep.
But you didn’t know that the next sensation would feel like fucking fire in your veins, seeking to destroy any source of relief. You weren’t sure where it was coming from. Your head? Your feet? Your hands? Your chest? You didn’t know. All you knew was everything was fine one second, the next, they set you ablaze.
Somewhere someone was screaming and you were hoping they would stop, because it was scaring you. You were worried something was happening to you that wasn’t pretty. But when you opened your mouth to ask the woman to stop screaming, you realized it was already open - you were the one who was screaming.
You must’ve passed out because when you woke up, you were being wheeled to a new cell, next to the Maximoffs. There was a clear wall between you two, but all you could do was lie down on the small bed in there, curling into a ball that faced away from your family.
“Y/N? Princess?” Pietro said as he rushed over, placing his hands against the glass wall, trying to get as close to you as he could. The fact that he couldn’t touch you killed him.
You mumbled a response, too weak to do anything else.
“What did they do to you?” Wanda asked in horror, her eyes widening on your broken form.
“Don’t worry, you’ll find out all too soon,” Dr. List promised.

After the Snap
Avengers (and Matt Murdock) x Reader
Steve Rogers:
         His knees are weak the moment he sees you. One of the strongest men in the world makes it six steps upon seeing you.
           You, hand pressed above your brow towards the sun. starting a slow walk towards the small (too small group) making their own way towards you. You began to run towards him, full force sprinting down a hill the battle had just happened.
           The new shield hits the dirt and he falls over you. Weight was too much, you couldn’t support it. On his knees, hands gripping your forearms, faced buried into your abdomen. He’s silent, the others pass without looking back. It isn’t until your hands go into his hair that he begins to sob, letting out sound between a cry and a yell.
           You’d find bruises on your arms later. You’d wear long sleeves to hide them from him.
Tony Stark:
         Your leg goes a mile a minute waiting for the phone to ring. Staring at the screen, every channel saying the same thing a different way.
           “The end times are here,”
           “Emergency services are backed,”
           “Millions reported missing in the first two hours,”
           “No word on the whereabouts of the Avengers at this time,”
           Happy promised to call as soon as he could, Piper saying the same and you promising third. No word from Peter, you having to hear a panicked May over the phone. Her anger and fear reaching a point you almost couldn’t handle.
           Turn off the TV and your leg hasn’t settled.
Thor:
         To anybody who wasn’t aware of Thanos, the decimation was nothing but confusing for several days. This was your situation; a once filled elevator briefly becoming black before settling around your feet. White sweater now dark as night.
           The entire world was silent for days; your parents weren’t answering, so many emails went unanswered, anyone with authority weren’t getting orders. Then, the world started screaming. You couldn’t go anywhere without phones screaming on some corner of the street or someone with a sign screaming about the end times. Churches were filled to the brim. Good church goers wondering where they went wrong to miss God’s trumpets.
           One of those screams was an email. Dr. BB was trying to get in touch with you.
           Thor arrived on your building’s roof a few hours later.
           He was different, so much different but still so him.
           “You’re tired.” You said, standing on tip-toes to cup his face with both hands.
           His forehead presses against yours. Kissing your hair line. Taking over the placement of your arm to hold your face. His lips and scratchy cheeks kissing any point of your face. By the time he slowed and just breathed against you, your feet were straining from being on toes for so long.
Bucky Barnes:
           Your arm disappearing wasn’t painful. Skin becoming black and into ash, some drifting into the air and a few clumps hitting the ground. The last thing you see is Shuri’s hands going to her face.
           On your back, water that’s not wet up to your ears. The sky is orange and it’s hard to see the difference between it and the water. It’s oddly comfortable, but terrifying that everything had changed so suddenly that barely a full sentence could get out.
           There are others, dark shadows in the distance shuffling slow through the water. Tall, short and others wondering around. A Toddler was even crawling around, close enough you could see what it was but far enough away you couldn’t hear them Anything you yelled was reverberated back in an echo.
           A glint from a non-existence sun hits the corner of your eye. Metal, a hue of silver in an equal distance to the other shadows.
           “Bucky!” you skipped the question and went straight for yelling.
           “Bucky! James!” no matter how far you run, he’s never gonna get closer.
Natasha Romanoff:
         Her hand runs through dust between blades of grass. It was unlikely that all of it was just you, likely combined with warriors who own partners were holding back tears. It also unlikely that you had still been standing in this spot when she had left.
           You had forced her to take a step back before leaving, kissing her cheek and telling her to “go get him”. It was a tradition from when you had first gotten serious. Usually you’d be sure to leave a mark of lip stick or gloss. Your little mark of “she is mine”.
           Her fingers trace over where your lips had been. Leaving to join Steve in his own silent grief.
Bruce Banner:
         He’s covered in sweat from the Hulk smasher. Falling into you but refusing his weight to drag you down.
           “You’re here, you’re good,” Bruce was hard to read with emotions. Refusing anger and exchanging it with others; humor, sadness or mass anxiety. This time he is laughing slightly, holding your face with both hands. “You’re okay.”
           “I’m okay,” You say, hands to his shoulders.
           He leans into you. A hug in the middle of the lab, that weighs you both down to the floor.
T’challa:
         Okoye breaks the news that you already assumed.
           Queen Ramonda stifles a gasp and looks towards the floor where you were already staring. Although you were an outsider, and been with T’challa for only awhile, your hand slides into hers. She grips it firmly.
           Okoye didn’t have a choice. Your other hand reaching out to hers, taking her hand and pulling her in. Her staff clangs into the floor, dropping it in exchange for taking her Queen’s other hand.
           Dust from her hand rubs into yours. A separation between your skin that digs her nails into your palm.
Pietro:
         It would be some time before anyone even saw Pietro. Hours of just gray or white rushing by and gone just as quick.
           It was hard to say who he was looking for first; you or Wanda. Not that it mattered one lick, just wanting one of you to be standing there, somewhere, doesn’t matter where. Sitting confused in the woods, sobbing with others back in the palace, or even laying unconscious in the field. Hurt but still alive and just needing his help.
           He just needed one of you, preferably both.
Peter Parker:
         Ned texts you after Peter jumps from the bus.
           Peter texted you a moment or two later. ‘Going into space, show video later’.
           After that it was dead from his end. You had texted a passive aggressive text about rescheduling your date for the next day. Sending another about the first being a joke, sending a third about wanting to actually do something instead of just watching Netflix. Another that you were okay with Netflix just no pizza, you wanted Chinese. Then another text that you were okay with pizza.
           All your texts came throughout the day until night. Knees to your chest waiting for a reply as your parents become absolutely silent in the other room.
Stephen Strange:
         Wong lets you into the sanctum as the world goes insane.
           “What ever happened to keeping the world safe from-.” You cut yourself off seeing Wong’s face. He was never someone who gave a lot of emotion to outsiders, so seeing the eyebrows drop and his face looking to the floor was both a special and horrifying experience.
           “You’ll stay here,” He says standing next to the round window with you.
           He was kind enough not to add the “It’s safer” part of that statement.
Matt Murdock:
           He’s doing that thing again. His head tilting to the side. Slowly walking to the middle of the room as though this will make him hear better.
           With so many crashes happening outside you don’t notice at first. Staring out the window, wondering how so many people can be drunk so early in the morning.
           “The neighbors…” He whispering. “Where are the neighbors?”
           “Matt?” It was a simple question that he ignored.
           “Where-that doesn’t…” The confusion gets worse when his arms became black.
           “Matty?” A nickname you only used to be sicking sweet.
           He makes it two steps towards your voice before he starts to gather around the floor. Falling forward into a pile on your shoes. Arms and chest black, left with nothing.
                                          --------------------------
Carol Danvers:
         It’s harder then it looks for a hero to keep themselves together. One super punch after another in the span a few hours came at Carol. Half listening to this other captain while watching pictures pass by with only a few seconds to study them.
           If it weren’t for the punch of the loss she would have made a half smile at Nick Fury’s eyepatch. Constantly putting off getting that new eye, probably because he thought it would be cooler. He gone just as fast as the others, looking down and refusing to show too much sorrow.
           It was hard to go on not knowing about you. It being better to ignore the possibility and just assume she could see you after. No matter what happened.
                                            --------------------------
Shang-Chi
You weren’t holding hands originally. Playing with a phone and holding some coffee, it was just a normal walk back from Starbucks when the world started to fall.
Starting with slamming cars, honking horns and shouts that were normal for city life. It was screams and shouts from the rest of the world that made Shang grab your hand. Spilling coffee all over the ground.
As loved ones turned to dust Shang stayed right by your side. His grip getting tighter and tighter as he pulls you through the sidewalk. Neither of you able to talk about the yelling crowd.
Even as you ran, even as confusion took over, even as Shang ran face first into a door, you were still the lucky ones. This feeling less so when your calls to friends, to family, goes unanswered.
 AN:
I don’t really know a lot of the soul world, I just assumed it was like purgatory and went from there.
