#but bringing Sam back from the dead; knowing full well that Sam would rather be dead than /dean/ be in hell?

I know I get so blinded by Sams plot when watching spn that I often overlook deans, but do you ever think about deans s2 arc? Bc it’s batshit good.
John sells his soul for dean and dean spends the entire season suffering for it - to the point that he /explicitly/ makes the point that selling your soul for a loved one is a selfish and cruel act - only to do that to Sam. Bc Dean just cannot fathom living while Sam is dead. and thinking about all this makes me want to start chewing drywall bc Dean KNOWS how selfish he is being here, but the idea of sacrificing yourself for someone else’s life - regardless of how much that person WOULD NOT WANT THAT - comes across as the most selfless caring thing you can do.

Dream Lantern Chapter 1
For Ectoberhaunt 2023 Day 5: Hunt.
The person who entered the small examination room wasn’t a doctor.  They weren’t even human.
Danny, who had been hunched in the less-than-comfortable chair in the corner, waiting for the doctor to get to him, sprang to his feet.  “You!” he hissed, green sparking from his fists and his rings snapping into place and sweeping outward to transform him.  “You did this!”
At first glance, the person in front of Danny looked human, but that was only at first glance.  The ridges of their eyes curved smoothly, owl-like, into the bridge of their nose.  Their hair, too black, formed a widow’s peak so sharp Danny wasn’t sure it couldn’t draw blood.  They wore a black suit that was about ten times too formal and old-fashioned to even exist in Amity Park.
But all of that could be brushed aside.  Sometimes people just looked or dressed strangely.  The real indicator was the eyes, which were red from lid to lid and faintly luminous.
“Yes,” said Nocturne, gloved hand touching their face as if to make sure it was still in place.  “Did you think someone else could have?”
“Put them back!” demanded Danny.  “Or I’ll–”
“Or you’ll do nothing,” said Nocturne.  “They are hostages, boy.  I’m sure you realize this already, or you would have attacked.”
Danny bristled.  “What do you want?”
“Your help.”  They laughed, showing off teeth that were both too white and too sharp.  “You like that, don’t you?”
Danny scowled.  He couldn’t deny the way his core had twitched at the word ‘help,’ but even full ghosts weren’t mindless slaves that could be programmed and activated by their Obsessions’ triggers.  Besides, he had better people to help.
Like Tucker and Sam.  Jazz.  His parents.
They were elsewhere in the hospital, in comas so deep Danny couldn’t touch their minds at all.  The doctors had kept Danny here, just in case he was about to slip into a coma, too, but knowing that it was Nocturne, rather than just suspecting it…
He wanted to fight.  He wanted to force Nocturne to let them go, to wake them up.
But… hostages.
“With what?”
“With retrieving something,” said Nocturne.
“And if I help, you'll bring them out of their comas?”
Nocturne lazily raised a hand.  “I swear it.”
“Fine.  What is it and where is it?”  If it was something dangerous, he could always sabotage it.  He had experience with that kind of thing.
“Oh, you mistake me, child.  I will retrieve it myself.  I only need you to accompany me to do so.  A being of your… nature is required.”
“What, a half ghost?”
“A creature neither alive nor dead,” said Nocturne.  “I think you fit that requirement quite nicely.”
The way Nocturne leered at him made Danny’s skin crawl.  He forced the ectoplasm swirling around his hands to recede and landed.
“Fine,” he snapped, again.
Nocturne reached out towards his face and Danny swatted their hand away.
“I’ll go there awake, thanks.”
“Very well,” said Nocturne, still smiling.  They turned and opened the door.  It no longer led back into the hospital.  Nocturne’s form liquified, and they oozed through the door, gaining volume as they did so until they were in their massive usual form.  The one that could hold and crush Danny in the palm of a hand.
Danny swallowed.  He hadn’t realized Nocturne could make portals like that.  He followed, and the portal shut behind him.
Nocturne’s smile grew smugger.  They turned and made a sweeping gesture.  “Behold,” they said, “the Plain of Dreams.”
There… wasn’t much to look at.  There was a big island there, sure.  One large enough that the other side vanished into the horizon.  But the surface of the island was flat and gray, devoid of any point of interest except for size.
“You live here?” asked Danny.
“Once,” said Nocturne, almost wistful.  “But there is no time for reminiscing.  You have a role to play here.”
“Which is?”
“That of a lantern.”  Nocturne reached into the invisible folds of their robes and pulled out a glittering, golden, jewel-studded cage, one shaped like a lantern and floored with rich, plush bedding.  They pinched the door open and held it up in front of Danny.
“No,” said Danny.  “I’m not getting in there.  If you need my glow or whatever for your thing, well, guess what?  I glow just as well out here.”
“It’s not quite that simple,” said Nocturne, circling him.  Danny turned, trying to keep eyes on Nocturne’s face and hands.  “You must be neither alive nor dead, awake nor asleep, willing nor unwilling.  Caged, but uncaptured.  Hungry, but full.  Complaisant, but steadfast.”
Danny’s skin prickled again.  He did not like this, and the fairy-tale-like phrasing was not helping his nerves.  “I don’t know that I’d call myself complacent.”
Nocturne chuckled.  “Different word, little ghost.  Or… I can seek out more friends of yours.  The girl in red, perhaps?”  They switched directions so fast Danny couldn’t keep track of them.  Their next words were whispered into Danny’s hair.  “She still dreams of you, you know.”
Danny flinched away, glaring, but he couldn’t hold Nocturne’s gaze for long.  He frowned at the cage instead.  He did not like it.  At all.
“I get to leave at the end?” he asked, knowing full well he couldn’t hold Nocturne to that in any meaningful way.  Even Nocturne’s word that he’d let his family and friends go didn’t mean much.
But what else could he do?  He’d already tried to wake them up himself, and he didn’t know what else Nocturne could do to them when they were in that state.
“Yes, yes, and I’ll wake your family.  We have already discussed this.  You are wasting time.”
“We hadn’t discussed this, actually,” said Danny.  “We’ve barely ‘discussed’ anything.”
“I can send them deeper,” said Nocturne, voice low and dangerous.  “Do you want that, child?  Perhaps their doctors will notice when they stop breathing on their own.  Perhaps not.”
Danny, core making an awful whining sound, raised his hands in surrender and flew into the cage.  Nocturne, moving swiftly, closed it behind him.
The exhaustion he’d been holding back all day (or was it all week?  All month?  All year?  Since he died the first time?) poured over him.  Against his will, he sank slowly to the blankets and pillows at the bottom of the cage, clouds of golden dust rising around him as his weight settled.  His eyelids fluttered, and his vision became blurred, uncertain.
Nocturne threaded their long, pointed fingers through the bars of the cage and pressed one against Danny’s chest, over his core.  Inky, starry blackness flowed from Nocturne’s finger and into Danny.  He could feel it being pressed into his core, and his core drank it in, growing colder.  His aura flared out involuntarily, to a brightness that was almost painful.  He groaned and tried to turn his head against one of the pillows.
“That wasn’t so bad, now, was it?” asked Nocturne in a falsely sweet voice.  It echoed weirdly, the words warping around their edges, morphing into other voices, other conversations.  “A simple waking dream.  Look.”
With some effort, Danny raised his head as Nocturne thrust the lantern-cage forward.  For a moment, bright colors streaked dizzyingly across his vision, like fireworks and flowers, but then–
What lay before him was not the gray and featureless plain he had seen only moments before.  Instead, ringed by the golden haze of dreams was a vibrant forest, decked with vivid colors and bright flowers, brighter and more numerous than they ever would be in reality.  Or maybe jungle was a better word.  In the distance, majestic mountains rose from the middle of the jungle, tinted blue and purple, glittering cities of gold and crystal built on their slopes.  A flight of butterflies bigger than birds exploded from the near edge, and swooped around Nocturne and Danny in a rainbow whirlwind.  Some of them had wingspans longer than his arm.
“What,” Danny might have said, aware that his words were slurred into unintelligibility, if they were spoken at all, “is that?”
“The Dream Wilds,” said Nocturne.
They reached into the cage again, adjusting Danny’s position so that he was halfway between sitting and lounging, hemmed in and supported by blankets.  They might as well have been chains, and even as that picture developed in his mind’s eye, it developed in reality as well.  Blanket twisted around his limbs and grew darker, the fabric taking on a metallic sheen.  Pillows grew heavier… but also softer, pulling him yet deeper into the half-dreaming state Nocturne had forced on him.
He was, really, horribly comfy.
If it wasn’t for his hazmat suit and its boots, Danny could almost be convinced he was bundled up in his own bed.  Then, he blinked, long, slow, and sleepy, and he wasn’t wearing his hazmat suit anymore.  Instead, he was wearing a set of pajamas that, if he’d seen them in the real world, would have sent him into paroxysms of envy.  They were a set, a button-down shirt and a pair of pants, the type of pajamas he liked the most.  They also were sewn with tiny star-shaped sequins in the pattern of real constellations.
Danny knew they weren’t real.  Unfair.
Nocturne chuckled and tugged on Danny’s newly-bare toes.
“Don’t,” mumbled Danny, sleepily, not coordinated enough to twitch away.  “Let’s get this over with already.”
“Yes,” said Nocturne, gliding forward.  “Let’s.”
.
The Plain of Dreams was only the greatest of the many places in the Ghost Zone where the ethereal and otherwise elusive energies of dream gathered.  It had been tamed, once, and inhabited, brought to the kind of civilization only known in the dreams of visionaries.  Crystal cities of philosophy.  Hidden villages in perfect harmony with nature.  Utopias of justice, science, and art.
But those realms were long gone.  When the rulers of the Dream Kingdoms saw the approach of Pariah Dark's armies, they ordered the caged dreamers on whose dreams the foundations of the cities were built woken and released, and their cities faded back into the wilds, and the wilds themselves faded and sunk into slumber until only fragments and memories remained.
There were ways to navigate them, if one had the right tools.  Ways to access the Dream Wilds where they slumbered, still beautiful, rich, and powerful.  Even with those tools, however, the Dream Wilds were still immeasurably dangerous.
Even in the Ghost Zone, there were few places where one could be destroyed by their own passing fancy.
It had taken years upon years for Nocturne to find the lantern-cage, a relic from one of the Dream Kingdoms, traded to a traveler and sold on as a curiosity not long before Pariah took the throne.  Cages not unlike this, but far grander, had held the forever-sleeping dream-architects who had made up the foundations of the great Dream Kingdoms.  The only other Nocturne had ever heard of beyond the borders of the Dreamlands had been from their own collection, melted down to be reforged as part of the Sarcophagus of Forever Sleep.
The success of that plan had made the sacrifice worth it, but Nocturne still resented it, and the lost opportunities it represented.
All too often, Nocturne found themself dreaming of what would have been, if they had still had their own lantern-cage.  If they had been able to travel back, to reach the Dream Kingdoms before they fell to ruin entirely, to enter the great halls with a dreamer, and once again let dreams be true.
But even dreams must bow to time.
The cage was not all Nocturne needed, nor the only preparation they had to make.  Among other things, the cage was useless without the proper dreamer.
The Dream Kingdoms had, for the most part, used volunteers.  Specially selected, educated, and prepared, quite literally pampered beyond the dreams of sloth, the dream-architects of old had been remarkable.  But even they were unlikely to have had the qualities Nocturne sought.
And seek they did, searching high and low, throughout both the Infinite Realms and the human world.  But no matter what dreamer they brought to the Plain of Dreams, no matter how long Nocturne wandered, their lantern did not light the way.
They had thought it must be a matter of power, and set to collecting dream energy from wherever they could, even going to the human world to gather it from living sleepers.  That particular endeavor did not go well, and they returned to the Realms with less than what they’d started with.
But then they found that old record, and its list of odd requirements.  Neither alive nor dead, awake nor asleep, willing nor unwilling.  Caged, but uncaptured, hungry, but full, complaisant, but steadfast.  A liminal dreamer was required, and not just any liminal.
There were only two liminals that Nocturne knew of.  He could, with some effort force either of them to fulfill most of the other conditions.  Waking dreams were well within his capabilities, the right pressure on an Obsession would have any ghost, full or otherwise, walking into a cage.  Hungry but full was trickier, but the lantern-cages were designed to help regulate what their inmates absorbed, among other things that allowed their function of bringing dreams into reality.  A glut of dream energy and a dearth of more traditional forms of sustenance would do nicely for Nocturne’s plans, and if the requirement was more metaphorical, they could adapt.
The difficulty lay in 'complaisant but steadfast.'
The elder half ghost was widely regarded as a coward, having fled from too many fights he himself had started.  Even if he wasn't, Nocturne had tasted his dreams.  Vlad Masters relished every bit of power he could hold over others, and resented any he could not subjugate or suborn.
The younger… Any being that could escape a dream crafted by Nocturne had to be described as both willful and strong-willed.  Yet, while the child had dreamed of being recognized and praised for the service he provided, in the waking world he provided those services unasked and unrewarded.
It wasn't ideal, but it would have to do.  Nocturne wasn't about to make more of the creatures.
From there, their preparations were relatively simple.  Phantom was young and brash, not stupid.  He may have managed to defeat Nocturne once, but the circumstances had been vastly different.  Then, Nocturne had been gathering dream energy and assessing the potential of dreamers.  They had been spread thin, distracted.
trapping a whole city in slumber.
Which led to the present moment.
As during their first encounter, the boy was far more susceptible to dream sand than even ordinary humans.  Nocturne could not recall at the moment whether or not Plasmius had fallen asleep as quickly, or if the weakness was unique to Phantom, but that hardly mattered.  What mattered was that he was working.
Where Phantom's aura fell, the Dream Wilds and all their flora and fauna became real, material, some might even say alive.  The radius of the effect was miniscule.  Nocturne could easily see beyond it, past the golden air and verdant leaves, to where the Plain of Dream was as drab and flat as ever. Phantom was not one of the great dreamers of old.  Nor, Nocturne could already tell, would the masterworks once crafted by those dreamers be making an appearance.  Phantom's conception of the Dream Wilds was too simple, too imperfect to support such complexities.
Butterflies.  Really.
Even some of Nocturne's earlier dreamers had done better, reached further.
And yet… the texture, the depth of color, the quality of light… Yes, with Phantom as their lantern, he would reach the ruins at the heart of the Dream Wilds, and finally claim what they had sought for so long.
Lantern in hand, they glided forward, beneath the boughs of the great trees.
.
Danny had expected it to be dark under the trees.  It had looked dark.  Instead, every leaf, every branch, every flower, every crawling, flying, or running thing, every wisp of colored mist was illuminated by Danny’s own aura, which showed no sign of dimming.  The shadowless quality of the surroundings added to their dreaminess, another layer of unreality on top of the haze, blur, and dazzle.
Danny slowly turned his head back towards the way they’d come from.  The way he thought they’d come from.  Already, the open Ghost Zone sky was entirely hidden from view.  They could have been walking for hours, not… not…
How long had they been walking?  Had it been hours?  He couldn’t tell.
Danny really didn’t like this.  But he couldn’t really do anything about it.  He was in a cage, and Nocturne still had his family hostage.  Plus, moving and thinking felt like swimming through honey.  Soft, cozy, comfy honey that made him sleepy.  The way the cage swung helped with that, a gentle, lulling, rocking motion that had him drifting, distracted.
He blinked hard, rousing back to the half-asleep state Nocturne had put him in.  Being caged was one thing.  Being totally unaware of his surroundings while caged by an enemy was something else.
“Where are we going?” he asked.
Nocturne said nothing.
“Where are we going?” he repeated, adding volume in the hope that it would let his words carry more clearly.
Nocturne looked down at him contemplatively, clearly weighing options.  Then they smiled, sly, smug, and indulgent.  “We hunt the Beast of Dreams.  A chimera with many forms and faces, it guards the way to our destination.  Three times we must face them, and three times we must gain their tokens, else even your light will not shine on our path.”
“What if we, um.”  Danny licked his lips, trying to recover the thread of his question.  His tongue felt heavy in his mouth.  “What if we can’t find them?”
Nocturne tsked at him.  “What a terrible attitude to have,” they scolded.  “It’s almost as if you don’t care about your family at all.  After all, if you are useless, so are they.”
They stopped their glide and reached through the bars of the cage, touching Danny’s shoulder where it joined to his neck.  Normally, with his hazmat suit, it wouldn’t even be exposed, but now Danny shivered as Nocturne pushed more energy into him.  He whimpered as his aura burned ever brighter in response.  His core hummed, high and strained, but his heart beat steadily, and his breathing stayed deep and slow.
“Guide me, little lantern, little light,” whispered Nocturne.  “I seek the Beast in the guise of Falsehood, where it lairs at the Gates of Horn and Ivory.  Show me the way.”
Danny had no idea how Nocturne thought he could navigate when he had never been here before and could barely see past his own aura.  No direction seemed better or more notable than any other direction.
Finally, his eyes landed on a group of trees practically exploding with white and purple flowers.  He twitched his fingers in their general direction.
Nocturne withdrew their hand and started moving in that direction at once.  Danny let out a sigh as his core gradually returned to a more relaxed state.
They were looking for 'The Beast of Dreams in the guise of Falsehood.'  What did that even mean?  What did that look like?  Some kind of animal?  Like a fox?  A snake?
"The being we go to meet is the very essence of the deception of dreams.  It is that which makes you forget that you are dreaming, that which make you think the dead are living, and the living, dead, that which calls you late to events long past, that which casts you in a thousand roles whose lines you have never learned.  It is illusion and confabulation, a fabulist beyond all others.  He speaks truth only in service to greater lies."
Danny… understood some of those words.  Maybe if was more awake, he'd know more of them.
“Even so, within the bounds of this, our trial, he will be forced to some measure of truth.  He must set a true price for his token, when asked three times, and when that price is paid, he must hand it over.  But even such a small honesty is one it despises, and it will seek to mislead us.”
“Mhm,” said Danny.  Beast guy would lie, and lie a lot.  Not much different than dealing with Nocturne themself.  Must be a dream thing.
His eyes drifted to the trees and flowers outside the cage.  Periodically, glossy leaves reflected his aura back at him, making him blink and wince.  The trees here were really big, most of them towering even over Nocturne.  Which made sense, if Nocturne was from here, and they had those huge butterflies to contend with.  They’d fit their scale.  It still felt weird to Danny, and didn’t help with his deepening sense of unreality.
He blinked again, and his blink must have been longer than he'd thought, because when he opened his eyes, they were no longer walking, but standing under a massive apple tree.  Its branches spread wide and hung heavy with brilliantly red fruit.  No other trees grew under its shadow.
To either side of the trunk, set into the hedge-like mass of greenery beyond the reach of the single great apple tree, were two tall gates made of pale materials.  Flowering vines grew around them, holding them shut as effectively as any chain.
Speaking of chains… he shifted uneasily, and listened to the soft clanking of the blankets around him.  Yeah.  They were still messed up by… whatever was going on.  It wasn’t as if Nocturne had actually explained anything, and–
Something in the tree moved.  Danny startled as he realized that something was an immense snake.  Patterned in poisonous green and red, it blended in almost-perfectly with the surrounding leaves and apples.
Normally, he wouldn’t blink twice at a giant ghost snake.  He’d fought more than his fair share of them.  Cobras, boas, vipers, rattlesnakes, you name it.  But this ghost radiated power far beyond that of a normal animal ghost, and he felt himself shrinking down among the pillows and blankets in an attempt to hide.
He knew it wouldn’t work.  He was glowing too brightly.
“Nocturne,” said the snake without moving his mouth.  His was deep and smooth, and reminded Danny of Vlad and, oddly, Clockwork.  “What an unexpected pleasure!”  It extended its head down, beyond the lower branches of the tree, as if in greeting.  “I see you have a new lantern with which to light your way.  I wish you good fortune on your journey, and hope you gain everything you seek.”
Danny winced at the use of the word ‘wish,’ but Desiree didn’t immediately jump out of the bushes, so he forced himself to refocus on the conversation in front of him.
“Falsehood,” said Nocturne, “I come for your token.  What price have you set for it?”
“Is that any way to greet a friend?  It has been so long since your last visit, and you have not even thought to introduce your new friend.”  The snake lowered itself partially to the ground, the end of his tail still hidden in the trees, and began to circle Danny and Nocturne.  “He looks delectable.  I would love to just gobble him up.  That’s a joke, dear.”  It twisted to look more fully at Nocturne.  “I would never dispute your ownership of anything, after all.  Much less the light you steer by.”
“Enough,” said Nocturne.  “What price have you set for your token, that I might move forward?”
The snake shook his head.  "Moving forward, my dear?  Is that what you call this?  I must congratulate you indeed.  And in such a timely manner, too, for just the other night, another lantern-bearer came by, and took for herself the last of my to–"
"What must we pay to receive your token?"
"You won’t let me have even the smallest morsel of fun," complained the snake. "Your mother taught you no manners.  But very well.”  It turned away from both of them, somehow conveying the sentiment of sulking despite its body being a tube.  “In exchange for my token, I require either a thing that is both true and false at once, one lie that will become true, or one truth that will become a lie.”
"Any one?" asked Nocturne suspiciously.
"The merchant cares not if you pay in gold or silver, only that he is paid."
"I want an answer, not a riddle."
"That is my sister's domain, not mine."
“Oh my gosh,” said Danny.  “Just do it.  If he doesn’t give you anything, then you know he lied.”
“Stupid child.  What do you think he means by ‘will become?’  So long as even a fraction of this place is held in reality, he has the power to make it so, and his games are far worse than those of the jinn you play with.”
“I know the rules as well as you, if not better,” protested the snake.  “I would not break them.”
“You would if you could.”
“I will not break them, then.  It is the same.  If you do not, perhaps I will assume you did come just to visit.  There are so many things you have missed when you were away, dearest.  It breaks my heart.”
“I doubt that.  This place is an abandoned ruin, the merest shadow of what it was.”
“And many places are, since the reign of the Pariah,” said the snake, mildly.  “Yet, even so, you have come here, dreamer in hand.  Do you imagine that everything is where you left it, even as you say that this place has fallen?  Perhaps.  Perhaps not.”
Nocturne shook their head.  “I will not listen to your lies.  You won’t trick me.  Not again.”  They hung Danny’s cage on one of the lower branches and started to pace, hands behind their back.
The snake sighed, and, to Danny’s alarm, wound around the branch he was suspended from to peer into the cage.  His eyes weren’t like a normal snake’s.  Instead of pupils, they had several spirals in varying shades of red, green, and black, and rotated slowly, hypnotically.  Danny found himself unable to look away, his awareness of Nocturne and, indeed, the rest of the snake fading.
Until, that is, the snake spoke again.
“It is just as possible for a lie to be told for a greater truth, as it is for a truth to be told for a lie.  I do not care for you, but my games, as you call them, are for the greater good of all.”
Danny blinked his eyes, which had begun to water, hard.  Crap, that was scary.  Not quite to the level of Freakshow’s staff, but scary.  The only thing that kept him from trying to find a way out right now was that even if he escaped, his family couldn’t.  He needed to stay here, stay strong, for them.  He’d already tried everything he could do on his own.
“You will accept a statement that is both true and not in exchange for your token?”
“Yes.  Or one truth that will become false, or one falsehood that will become true.  I’m not terribly picky.”
“And you only want to hear this thing, not wipe it from my mind?”
“I don’t even have the power to do that.”
“I know for a fact you do.  You only want to hear this statement, and you will accept that as payment?”
“Oh, are you asking me three times?  It is almost as if you don’t trust me.  That’s hurtful, after our long acquaintance.”
“Will you, or will you not, accept a statement both true and false as payment?”
“I will, I will!”  The snake sniffed loudly, a sound Danny didn’t even think snakes could make…  Then again, this snake was talking, a ghost, and maybe also a dream (Danny was unclear on that point), so, really, they were already far beyond that point.  “I know you don’t consider me worthy of respect, but shouldn’t you at least respect the rites and rules?  It will go much more smoothly.  Quickly, too, if that’s something you’re after.”
Nocturne smothered a growl.  They raised a knuckle to their lips, the starry blackness of the digit standing out starkly against their mask-like face.  “Then my payment is this: the path I seek is the one that leads to the Crown and Cup of Dreams.”
The snake laughed, an odd, barking noise.  “And you say I never taught you anything.”
Nocturne opened their mouth as if to argue, expression pinched and sour, but then closed it, thoughtfully.  “You are trying to distract me.  I have given you payment.  I expect your token in return.”
The snake sighed long and heavy.  It wound its way onto a nearby branch and pointed its nose at one of the apples.  “Any of these apples may serve as my token.”
Nocturne quickly picked the apple the snake had indicated.  Then, they flew to where Danny’s cage still hung.
In Nocturne’s hand, the apple was large.  Big enough that it wouldn’t look strange if they tried to take a bite out of it.  Big enough that if it was hollowed out, Danny could fit in it comfortably.  But that wasn’t what Nocturne did.  Instead, they brought the apple to the bars of the cage, and as it passed through them, it shrunk down until it could fit easily in Danny’s hands.
The perspective made Danny’s head swim.  It didn’t work.  But it did, and it was, and Nocturne was pressing the apple against his lips.
“Eat,” they said.  Despite their earlier anger, that smug, teasing smile was once again bending the corners of their lips upward.  “The purpose of these tokens is to ensure the lantern can light the way.”
Danny leaned away from the apple, squinting at it.  "No," he said.
It wasn't as if Danny's parents had ever sent him to Sunday School (the Holy Spirit was bad enough.  The Holy Ghost?  You got the picture), but Sam had always been delighted to share the darker stories, and Tucker’s parents went to church on Sunday mornings, whether Danny was staying over or not.  Plus, he did try to pay attention to literary symbolism in English, even if Mr. Lancer didn't think so.
A snake offering apples?  Bad news.
Maybe if Nocturne was the one being told to eat it, or if Danny's friends and family weren't on the line, he wouldn't have said anything, because screw Nocturne.  But they weren't and they were.
"This isn't your token.  You're lying."a
The snake chuckled.  "Clever child."
Nocturne snarled and darted forward, clawed hand closing around the serpent's neck.  The edges of their form were flared out, like feathers or fur.  The apple fell down and vanished among the pillows and blankets.
"I have paid your price.  I fulfill every requirement to walk this path, and you have no right to keep it from me!"
The serpent evaporated and reformed deep among the branches of the apple tree.  “You call me a liar, when you tell such untruths yourself!  Every right is mine, and mine alone!  Nor was I paid.”
“I gave you my statement, both true and untrue.  You will not cheat me.  Not now.”
“Did you?” asked the snake, clearly delighted by this turn of events.
“How dare you speak of rules and respect, when you desecrate this ancient rite?  How dare you stand in my way, when I–”
“Indeed!  Who else should stand in your way?  My sisters and brothers?  All those with a greater claim to this path?”
As it turned out, despite everything, Danny had been paying attention to the whole conversation, even if he hadn’t followed all of it.  Nocturne had been sure the snake couldn’t lie if he was asked the same thing three times… so maybe he didn’t.
“If the token is for me,” he said, slowly, “is Nocturne the one who has to pay the price, or is it me?  When you said ‘you’ earlier, you were talking to me, weren’t you?  I’m the one who needs to say one of those three things?”
The snake approached again, and Danny hastily averted his eyes.  "I like this one, Nocturne.  He reminds me of you, when you were younger, and better behaved."  He paused, significantly.  "And smarter.  Yes, little light, you are the one who must answer me, if you desire my token.  Of course if you do not…"
Danny understood what the snake was implying, but he did, in fact, need that token.
He really hated hostage situations.
But if what Nocturne had implied about the snake’s powers was true, maybe he could use this.  After all, nothing said the lie had to be his.
"Nocturne said they'd bring my family and friends out of their comas if I help them.  Can I give you that as the lie?"
The snake started laughing.  Danny, meanwhile, felt like his brain had been peeled out of his body and he was floating over his skin.  The persistent misty softness had converged on him, and now he was floating.
"I had doubted before, but now I understand how it is that you were the one to defeat Pariah Dark.  Nocturne, dear, he has to be able to take the token.  I doubt keeping him like that will prevent him from vexing you, anyway."
“I can make him take it.”
“As you would.  Now–”
“You have not been this cooperative before.”
“Perhaps I simply want you gone.  You are, as I have mentioned, incredibly rude.  And ugly.  And I find what you are doing to be repugnant, as you yourself would, had you given it thought beyond your base desires.  Not that you listen to me–”
“You’re going to try to pass off something random as your token again, aren’t you?  And then you’ll claim it is because you didn’t give it to him, you cheat.”
“Me?  A cheat?  Never.  Or only at card games.  It is very difficult to play a hand when you don’t have any.”
“You aren’t even a snake.  You only look that way because of how he’s dreaming you.  But what I don’t understand is why you seem to want him awake.  You’re never this transparent.”
“Are you sure I want him awake?  Perhaps that is only what I want you to think.  Ah, and now you’re tying yourself in circles.  A shame.  Once you were good at this.  Or at least passable.  And you wonder why you couldn’t even hold the dreams of a single human city, much less the power that passes through here.”
“I am the Master of Dreams, and–”
“Only because there was no one else qualified.”
There was a long silence, and Danny felt himself drifting back to the surface of awareness.  That had been… strange.
“Give him,” said Nocturne, their voice gravely with suppressed rage, “your token.”
Danny noticed with some alarm that the snake was wound around the cage.  When did it get so close?  Why did it get so close?  His scales flashed at him.
“Take two,” said the snake.
“What?”
“Take two of my scales.  Together, they make my token.”
“And… am I supposed to eat them or something?”  That… was that the right thing to ask?  Everything was still a bit floaty.  “Don’t laugh,” he said, crossly as the snake started to snicker.  It did that a lot.  “I’m serious.  You wanted me to eat the other thing.  The, um, the apple.  Are you going to make me eat these, too?”
“Take them and find out.”
Danny glanced back at Nocturne, but they didn’t make any objection this time.  Carefully and slowly, he crawled over the blankets to the bars of the cage.  Because of the way the bottom of the cage was curved and how the pillows and blankets were ever so slightly higher near the outside edge, he had to hold onto one of the bars to stay in place.
“Any two?” he asked.
“No, the two you get by adding one and one.”
Danny glared at the snake for a moment, but quickly returned to looking at the scales.  Each one was only a little smaller across than his palm.  They glittered, and Danny blinked sleepy tears out of his eyes.  He adjusted his grip on the bars and resisted the temptation to lie down.
He really didn't want to do this.
"It won't hurt you?" he asked. That wasn't his main concern, but… in the moment, it was a concern.
"No more than pulling free a hair."
Depending on the hair, that could hurt quite a bit.  He reached out and grabbed a scale at random.  It slid free with surprising ease.
Most of it was green, but the edge of it was vivid red, as if it had been rolled in blood.  He tucked it quickly into the pocket at his breast, and reached for the next scale.  This one was green all over, a smooth gradient from one side to the other.
He let go of the bar and slid back into the cozy nest in the center of the cage as if guided by an outside force.  Even without Nocturne’s intervention, the blankets and pillows tucked themselves in around him.  If anything, he felt even more secure than before, only head and hands free.
But he was sitting there, holding the scales, one in each hand.
In dreams, occasionally a dreamer is seized by knowledge or need apropos of nothing.  They know that this is their grandmother's house, even though it's obviously the grocery store.  They know they must hold the cards with only their left hand, or otherwise they'll lose, never mind what game they're playing.  Sometimes, too, the dreamer simply acts.  The impetus for their actions obscure, not originating from their own thoughts.  Jumping from cars, yelling, fighting, eating, smoking, cheating on tests, being unable to stop.
Danny, not thinking about anything in particular, raised the scales to his eyes.  They sunk into his skin without a trace.
At first, he rubbed his skin and eyes furiously, hoping to find a way to peel them off, but then…
He saw.
He could see.
Before, it had been difficult to keep his eyes open, impossible to see past his own aura, but now everything looked so clear, from the leaves, to the apples, to the grass, to the gates and the ruins beyond them.
"You see, now," said the snake, kindly.  "The purpose of my token is to shield your eyes, so you can see.  And, I suppose, better guide the one that carries you.  Before, you burned too brightly for your own good, but now…"
Danny nodded as the snake spoke.  Vaguely, he felt as if he shouldn't agree with him, but what he was saying made sense.  He did see better.  He saw more.
Most things were still misty, out of the corners of his eyes, but directly in front of them, they were clear and crisp.  Sharp.  Well defined.
He could even see the path on the forest floor, where it ran underneath them and to one of the pale gates - which didn't look nearly as overgrown as he had originally thought.
(There was something very wrong with that thought, with all these thoughts.  But this thought, in turn, slipped away and disappeared.)
“Which way, child?” asked Nocturne.  “We have wasted enough time here.”
Danny’s tongue felt heavy in his mouth, so he pointed instead.  It was strange that Nocturne could not see the path.  Nocturne walked that way, lantern in hand.  And when had he picked the cage back up?  Danny was missing something.
“Nocturne,” called the snake.  “I meant what I said.”
“About what?”
“All of it.  Give my sister-self my regards.”

mission first, right?
See my full list of works here!
Summary: You're plagued with doubts when Loki goes radio silent in the middle of a mission after being tasked to acquire intelligence in the possession of a drop dead gorgeous woman.
Pairing: Loki x Reader
Word Count: 2.6k
Warnings: massive angst hours; insecure reader; language [let me know if i missed anything!]
Things to be aware of: really not much plot to this; if i'm being honest, this is just a vent piece
Tumblr media
You knew it was a bad idea. Why didn't you listen to your gut when all this started a few months ago?
Oh. Right. You were too busy having said guts rearranged by your…what were you anyway? Friends with benefits? Booty calls with added perks? Lovers? You shuddered at that last word. Definitely not lovers.
Dammit, you thought to yourself. I had my whole life planned out. Become a SHIELD Agent, level up in the ranks, qualify to try out for the Avengers program, become an Avenger. Getting into a situationship with Loki Laufeyson was not part of the plan, you bleeding nimrod.
Now you were here. Pacing the hotel room you two shared for this forsaken mission, waiting for him to return from seducing that absolute knockout of a target that you undoubtedly wanted to knock out with the butt of your standard issue pistol until her shiny new nose got dislodged from her perfectly nipped and tucked face.
"We're going to need two of you to go undercover for this one," Rogers briefed the team. "Y/L/N. Laufeyson. You both haven't been spotted by the target, his daughter, or any member of their protection detail. Find the drive, clone it, bring it back here. By any means necessary."
Upon Loki's raised hand, his brother responded with, "No, Loki, you may not kill unless it is deemed necessary by both you and Lady Y/N."
"Yeah, Rock of Ages, so no stabbing."
You didn't think that the drive was a trinket within the bracelet of Dasovich's daughter. That the procurement would require Loki's charms rather than your wiles. That you would have to listen to him use the same caressing tone that he'd used on you just a few short months ago that coaxed you into his bed.
You didn't think it would hurt. To hear him use that tone with someone else. This was just supposed to be fun. An outlet for the both of you to release whatever pent up tension remained after training. Or missions that leaned more on the dangerous and violent rather than the clandestine and finessed.
You were just supposed to be a means to each other's stress relief. An instrument towards a mutually reached orgasm. Nothing more. You didn't think—
Exactly, you fucking idiot, you didn't think, you hissed inwardly. You didn't think when you took him up on his offer, you weren't thinking when he first kissed you and slipped his tongue in your mouth, you weren't thinking the first time he used that same mouth and tongue to explore every fucking inch of your body, you weren't thinking the first or the second or the twelfth time he fucked you, and you sure as fuck weren't thinking when you fell in love with him.
"And now look where you are," you sighed into the empty room.
The minutes turned into hours, with you on the precipice of getting on Tony's last nerve with your constant calls in of "Anything from Laufeyson?" every fifteen minutes, only to receive Steve's response of, "Sorry, Y/N. Still nothing. He must have removed his earpiece."
"Can't imagine why," you said slyly on your last check in, receiving a chuckle from both Sam and Bucky. "But it's been hours shouldn't we go check on him?"
"Maybe Horns just wants to be thorough," Sam quipped. "Can't blame him, that woman's practically a supermodel, I'd be thorough, too."
Well you can't blame him but I sure as fuck can, you thought to yourself, Wilson's words cutting into your heart as if they were Loki's own daggers. "If he's not back in another fifteen minutes, I'm kicking the door in."
"Jellybean, if Bambi's not back in ten, I'll send in his brother to get him."
Then, as if on cue, the door to your room opened and in walked the raven-haired god, his suit pristine and not a hair out of place. As if you couldn't get any angrier; he couldn't even look disheveled after the fact because he could just put everything back in place with a wave of his hand.
"Don't bother, Stark, he's here," you deadpanned. "Thanks."
"Apologies, darling," he said, taking out his earpiece. "The drive took a while to clone."
"I bet it did," you shot back, your tone unchanged. "Is she still breathing, at least?"
"What? Of course she is, I swore not to kill her, did I not?" You felt him step closer to you, placing his hands on your upper arms. You shrugged him away. "Y/N?" He wrapped his arms around your waist; you maneuvered yourself out of his hold. "Darling?" He paused for a moment, probably noting the brass knuckles laid out on the desk next to your pistol, before he let out a chuckle. "Were you barging in to the room, dear Y/N? Come to rescue me?"
You turned around to face him, the tears threatening to escape your eyes. "Sure, Laufeyson. Let's go with that."
The amusement on his face melted away as he stepped toward you again. "My precious mortal--" You didn't bother trying to push him away as he pulled you into his arms, his hand gently cradling your head and stroking your hair. He took a breath. "Ask me. There's a question burning in your mind, so just ask me."
"Do I even have to? Just so I get to hear the satisfaction in your voice when you say yes? I mean, I get it. Mission first and all that, sometimes we have to kill someone, sometimes we have to fuck someone. It comes with the job."
"Y/N, stop this. Just ask me, so that I may tell you--"
"Loki I can't do this anymore." You rushed the words, as if they were a band aid you simply needed to rip off and everything would be over.
You felt him go frigid around you. "Darling, don't--"
"I can't go through this mission and then…what? We celebrate, we pretend that nothing happened, that you didn't use the same voice you used on me when we started this whole schtick between us on a mark? That you didn't use the exact same moves on her you did on me the second that her hotel room door closed? Hey, at least you had the courtesy to turn off your comms so I didn't have to hear her moan your name."
"Please darling--"
"Might as well stop it now I mean I'm still hurt and I was still stupid, hell I was stupid to agree to this entire thing anyway. What was I thinking going into this with the bravado that I wasn't gonna fall in love," you chuckled darkly. "Stupid little mortal, right?"
"You—"
"But I'll be fine. Not like you'd care you probably have your next one lined up already. Is it her? Dasovich's daughter? I mean she is a looker I'll give you that, a knockout even. No you know what? Don't tell me. I don't wanna know. I don't want anything—"
"Stop," he commanded. "Before you say something you cannot rescind. You've said so much, and yet none of your suspicions could be further from the truth. Please, dear heart. Just ask me—"
"FINE!!" You pushed yourself away from him, forcing yourself to look at his face, desperately trying to find the tiniest indicators of him lying once he answered you. Fat chance of that happening, this is the literal god of lies you’re dealing with. You took a breath, your entire body shaking with a rage you couldn't contain anymore. "Was she any good?"
His brows furrowed. "What?"
"When you fucked her—"
"Y/N!" You flinched at his raised voice, the frustration that was evident in his face quickly subsiding for concern the moment a tear finally escaped your eye, rolling down your cheek. "I'm sorry," he said softly, his hands raised as if in surrender as he stepped closer to you. "My darling. My precious girl. Will you please give me a few minutes to tell you what happened?"
Instead of letting the words keep flowing, and letting yourself get louder and angrier, undoubtedly just leading to nothing but a scratched throat and a hollow heart, you gave him a wordless nod. Granted your heart would still be hollow at the end of tonight and you'd still need to nurse your wounded pride and ego, but at least you wouldn't have a scratched throat.
"I didn't touch her," he said calmly, his hands still held up, palms out, almost reaching out to you.
"Why should I believe you?" you breathed out. You'd felt your strength waning. All you wanted was for this to be over already so that you could get another room, far away from him, and cry yourself to sleep. Though with how weak you already felt, you would probably just lie in bed with the tears streaming down the sides of your face until sleep finally overtook you.
"Because, darling, if you are in fact a stupid mortal, then I am a stupid god." Your breath hitched. Don't fucking say it, Loki, you shouted in your head. "I could not even stomach the thought of touching another. Not when I knew that the woman I love was waiting for me in our room, and every time I would think about committing myself fully to this mission, I could imagine the hurt in your eyes when I returned to you. I must say the reality is a much more agonizing than anything I could have conjured in my own mind."
It was only then that he stepped closer, framing your face in his hands. When you blinked, more tears escaped your eyes. You didn't know if you could believe him, but you wanted to. Desperately. You wanted his words to be the truth. The woman he loved. How you wished it could be real.
"I enchanted her drink, darling. She's asleep. I didn't touch her. I couldn't. Not when I already belong to another. There is no 'next one', dear heart. There is only you. There will only ever be you." He laid his lips on yours in a tender kiss. "Truly the delay was not caused by a prolonged seduction, I could never do that to you. No mission could ever be worth harming you. I needed to scour her slumbering memories to find the location of the drive, the true drive. Our intel misled us. The intelligence she possessed was not upon a trinket around her wrist, but disguised as the jewel upon her shoes."
His words refused to sink in. You refused to accept them. Any of them. They resembled a dream you wished not to wake from. But that was all they were. A dream. These were pretty words fashioned from a pretty mouth. A silver tongue. Pretty words were his specialty; his poorly hidden superpower. With them he could get any unwitting victim to fold, bend to his will.
And now he was using them on you. Again.
"Stop," you pleaded. "Please, Loki I'm begging you." Your voice began to crack at your words. "When we started this, we were just having fun. It was stress relief. It's not fun anymore. It hurts. It makes me want to rip my heart out just so it stops hurting so much." You pulled his hands away from your face and began to sink to your knees. "That's it. I give. I can't anymore."
Panic colored his face as he saw what you were doing, and he wrapped an arm around you and pulled you straight to your feet. "No, my love. You do not kneel. Not you." He pressed a kiss to your forehead. "Never you." A kiss to your temple, then your cheek. "Y/N, please. I never wish to harm you, my precious girl. My dear heart." He proceeded to press kisses down to your neck, your clavicle, above your heart, until he reached your lower stomach. And there he stayed, hands on the sides of your thighs, his forehead pressed to your navel.
And then you realized that he had sunk to his knees.
"I cannot lose you, Y/N. My heart would not bear the anguish of losing you." His arms wrapped around your legs, as if he refused to relinquish you from his hold. "This was never about fun for me, dear heart. This was about need. A need I'd never once felt in my life, for anyone. I needed to hold you, to taste you, to love you. But mostly, I needed you to know that I was yours. I need you to know now that I am yours. I need you to know that I--"
"Stop it," you pleaded helplessly. "Don't say it."
"I will," he insisted. "Because I need you to hear me say it. I need you to know that I love you, and I will spend the rest of my days striving to make myself worthy of you. Why would I ever risk you for something as trivial as intelligence for a mission? You are the most precious thing in my life." His hands grasped yours, and he brought them to his lips, pressing desperate kisses to your knuckles. "Stay with me, my love."
"Get up," you sobbed, trying to pull him up by your joint hands. "Please, Loki." You could barely breathe as he once again placed his hands on your sides and proceeded to press kiss after kiss on your clothed body as he rose to his feet once more.
When he was upright once more, he hovered his lips over yours, pleading, "Don't leave me."
"Don't hurt me," you whispered back.
"Never. I would never. I love you, Y/N. I should have told you sooner. I should have told you my plans, given you no room for doubt." He pressed his lips to yours, audibly exhaling in relief when he felt you kiss him back. "I'm sorry," he murmured against your lips repeatedly between kisses. "I beg of you, my love, don't leave me."
"I won't," you answered in a rush. "I can't. I'm yours. I love you, too. Even when it hurt to, I loved you."
"Tell me what to do. To make amends for hurting you so. Tell me and it will be done. Just don't tell me to let you go. I could never." As if to emphasize his point, he wrapped his arms around you in an unrelenting embrace.
"Just don't hurt me," you whispered into his chest. "I won't be able to take it if you do."
You could hear his heart beat faster as he cradled your head in his hand, holding you as if you were so precious. "I swear, my darling mortal."
The entire remainder of the night, he made good on his promise to make amends for the hurt his silence caused you, with every kiss, every caress ensuring that the pain you felt earlier that night was a distant memory by the time you'd both arrived back to the tower.
And then the declared to Steve and Fury that he would never partake in a task like that again. That in the future he will acquire the intelligence in his own way, without having to resort to flirtation or seduction.
When they asked him why, he simply said, "No intel would ever be valuable enough to warrant hurting the woman I love in order to acquire it."

Now that the submissions are closed, were there any funny submissions that topped the previously stated funny submissions?
I might end up publishing the full response list to browse through at your leisure and so that someone else can seek out the hee hoo funny ha has rather than making myself go through all 1522 again, but I would like to highlight a few submissions that stuck with me:
character: Sam Winchester
from: supernatural
why?: oh COME ON. ur gonna make me defend sam fucking winchester as the most character of all time?? he literally has bangs. he died at 23. he died at 26. he died a lot of other times too but those are the most important ones. he's jesus and he's the antichrist and he gets placed on a visual crucifix too many times to count. he's an addict and he's a christian and god is making his life miserable on a personal level. he is wholeheartedly convinced that there are other people who "have it worse" than him (he was tortured by satan for centuries). again he HAS bangs. he's been possessed too many times to ever feel like his body is his own. he's in a constant cycle of being beaten down and KNOWING he shouldn't get back up, and not wanting to get back up, and getting back up anyway like a kicked puppy who thinks maybe this time they won't get kicked. never ever gives up but in a sad and pathetic way that makes u feel vaguely nauseous. he's psychic. he bought a ring for his girlfriend while they were still in college. he went to stanford. he's unclean in the biblical sense but he prays every night. he had a queer allegory arc spanning multiple seasons that people ignore so they can claim he's cishet. he totally fucked a 300-year-old witch while studying under her to become a witch himself. everyone he has ever loved is dead and he knows it's his fault. he spends the first few decades of his life angry -- SO angry -- at everything he's been put through, full of rage at the things he's suffered and the people who caused them. he is punished for this fury, taught to never be angry again, and after a while he just lies down and takes it. he is a serial killer and on the fbi's most wanted list. he uses "low sodium" as an insult. he's a vegetarian. he never drives his father's car. he has demon blood flowing through his veins and his best friend is a literal biblical angel. he's an abomination. he thinks that hope is kind of the whole point. he has BANGS. he killed his brother several times over, and he destroyed the world to bring his brother back to life a few times too. he spent time in a psych ward. he thinks he is terribly hard to love. his mother destroyed his life before he was even born and he still calls her "mama." he died at 23. he was kicked out of the house when he was 18, and then was kicked out of basically everywhere else for the rest of his life. his only family locked him in a panic room and left him to die. he forgave them for that because he doesn't know how to do anything but forgive. he's got bangs. anyway
what do you want?: u KNOW what i want. if my best friend sam doesn't win this bracket i'm crashing my car into the world's tallest and thickest tree

THAT'S jesse Pinkman. hes the bride of heisenburg hes the dog motif and he loves and loves and protects animals and kids because he couldn't protect himself and he wins with tears in his eyes. um also hes trans so ^ hasnt watched this show in like 7 months i have mo idea what im talking about

doodlebug - autistic!clementine, seasons 1&2
for @lonlonmilck - i hope you enjoy! i absolutely LOVED writing this one :)
if you'd like to request a twdg fic, shoot me an ask!
also on my ao3
After they leave Lilly behind, Clementine sort of…shuts down, for a minute. Kenny, Katjaa, and Duck all stay up front in the RV, and Lee goes to speak with them. While he’s gone, Clem considers joining Ben at the table and seeing how he is, but something tells her Ben doesn’t want to talk to anyone right now.
She wishes Carley were still here. Carley was always nice to hang around, she used to find leaves around the motor inn for Clementine to do her rubbings with. Clem longs to feel a pencil beneath her fingers again, a piece of powdery pink chalk in her hands, but her body doesn’t seem to want to cooperate on that front.
She’s scared. She’s been scared this whole time. But right now, she feels the most terrified she’s ever been. Worse than Sandra, and the walkers at the drugstore, and even worse than when she’d crawled out of the vent in the St. Johns’ barn and seen the horrible room full of blood and blades waiting for her. This, somehow, is so much worse than any of that.
When Lee tells her Duck’s been bitten, Clem gets angry.
“I thought he was just tired, and that’s why he didn’t want to talk to me today.” She scowls. “I didn’t know he was stupid enough to get bit. ”
“Clem,” Lee says. Concern laces his tone. “You know it isn’t anyone’s fault. These things…they happen, now. It’s how the world is.”
“But he’s my friend, ” says Clem, and suddenly she’s crying just like the whiny little baby she is, hot tears splashing out and down her cheeks. “I don’t want him to go…”
“We don’t know everything about these yet,” Lee reassures her, a hand on her shoulder. If it were anyone other than Lee touching her, Clem would recoil; but it is Lee, so she leans into it, not away. “Duck could bounce back. We could still find a way to help him.”
But the way he talks makes it sound like Duck is already dead.
I wouldn’t have let your friend get bit, says the stranger on the walkie talkie. If I were there, he’d still be alive and playing with you.
The worst part is that Clem has no idea whether or not to believe him.
– – –
Lee dies, and Clementine nearly doesn’t make it out of Savannah. Not after him, not after the stranger and his bowling bag, not after her Mom and Dad - she leaves Lee, because she has to, but she gets stuck at the door and can’t bring herself to open it.
Because if she opens it, he’s really gone. And all the walkers outside - they’re loud, moaning and groaning and wailing all over the place, the swarm they brought down with them when they took the train. Before it had been easier; Lee had smeared the guts on her, Lee had held her hand and kept her close as they moved through the crowded, jostling pack. Now, she’s alone. She has to freshen the entrails herself, and the smell and the feeling of them all slippery and warm beneath Clem’s fingers nearly makes her puke. She has no hand to hold, and for one fleeting moment, she thinks it might be easier to just stay here. With him.
But that’s not what Lee would have wanted. And Christa and Omid are out there somewhere, waiting for her. She has to find them.
She has to find them.
So she opens the door, and she holds her palms against her ears.
– – –
“Do you blame me?” Clem asks. “It’s my fault he’s gone.”
“I don’t blame you,” Christa tells her, and Clem knows that she lies.
– – –
“I think you’ll get along well with Sarah,” Pete tells her, even though they’re still convinced it’s a walker bite and Luke refuses to carry her any longer.
“Who’s Sarah,” asks Clem, rather dully. Her arm hurts like a motherfucker; she can still hear Sam’s dying whine from when she slid the knife beneath his matted yellow fur.
“She’s another girl,” Luke tells her. “Bit older than you, but sweet. You guys might have some things in common.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Clementine demands, and Luke blanches.
“I didn’t mean - only that - “
Pete saves him. “She could just really use a friend closer to her own age,” he says kindly. “I bet you could, too.”
The last age-appropriate friend Clem had was Duck, and Duck got bit. She doesn’t exactly have high hopes for this Sarah kid, either. Really, she shouldn’t be making any friends, because they’ll all just leave her eventually, and then she’ll be alone again.
Maybe she’s the common denominator. Maybe, if she lets people be, no one else will have to die.
But she knows on her own, she wouldn’t survive.
Sarah is sweet, it’s true, and nice enough, but she doesn’t get it. She’s never killed a walker and when Clem tries to teach her how to use a gun, Sarah nearly shoots her right between the eyes.
“Don’t point that at me!” Clementine exclaims. “You never, ever point a gun at someone, even if you know it’s not loaded! If you keep doing that, you’re going to get someone killed.”
Sarah shrinks in on herself. She lowers the pistol, embarrassed. “Ok,” she whispers, the grimy lenses of her crimson glasses fogging up with unshed tears. “I’m sorry. Just…please don’t shout at me.”
Clem hadn’t even realized she’d been yelling. She hadn’t meant to hurt Sarah’s feelings, it’s only that she has to know these things. If Lee hadn’t taught Clem everything he had, she wouldn’t still be alive. She knows that.
And Sarah is sweet, even if she’s naive. Clementine doesn’t want her to die. “Why can’t you tell me who that guy at the door was?!” Clem demands, and Sarah wilts and bites her fingernails and says, “I’m sorry I’m sorry I just - I can’t remember!”
Clem sighs; she pulls Sarah into a hug and holds her there until she calms down again.
Jane is blunt, like her. Jane knows how hard it is to lose the ones you care about, to be left all by your lonesome. Clem likes her, likes that she’s smart enough to use the guts as a disguise and flirt with Troy ‘til the walkers get him. She admires Jane’s poker face, and her short-chopped hair, and how she teaches Clem to take them out at the knee so it’s easier to reach their skulls.
But then Jane wants to leave Sarah in the trailer home. And Clem understands - more than anyone bar Carlos, and Carlos is gone - that Sarah can be difficult, but Jane’s so quick to abandon her for dead that Clementine starts to worry, and not just for her friend.
If Jane hates Sarah, and Sarah and Clementine are alike, at least a little bit…does that mean Jane hates Clementine, too?
“I’m sorry,” Jane tells her, after Sarah’s screams stop and all Clem can hear from below is the wet sounds of feasting on flesh. “I tried to save her, I really did, I know she was your friend…I tried to save her, Clementine.”
And Clem knows that she lies.
– – –
The first time she ever holds AJ in her arms, he stops his fussing and stares up at her with such innocent, big brown eyes that Clem nearly chokes on her own tongue right then and there. She passes him back to Rebecca and wonders what the hell a look like that is supposed to mean, from a new-born baby who’ll never know the way things used to be before the dead started walking.
At Wellington, alone in their room, he is all she has. Jane is dead, Kenny left them behind to stay safe. AJ doesn’t talk yet. He barely even gurgles. All he seems to do is cry - when he’s hungry, when he needs his diaper changed, when he’s tired and he can’t fall asleep. Clem stays up with him in the night, loses her own sleep to make sure he gets his. She shushes him and rocks him in her arms and hums him little songs until those brown eyes flutter shut and he finally drifts off to bed.
She’s exhausted, and she’s almost as lonely as she was before. She looks down at the baby in her arms and feels…nothing. Nothing except for the guilt, and that she can’t do anything about.
Then one night, AJ hands her a doodle, balled up and crumpled in his meaty little fist. It’s nothing more than a few scribbles, mixtures of yellow and green crayon that blend to make a muddy brown. The colors of the leaves right at the end of summertime. He doesn’t make a sound as he gives it to her, but when she takes it in her hands, she knows it’s hers and hers alone.
“Thank you,” she tells him, softly, feeling more vulnerable than she has in months, and her tears catch in his tiny curls as she presses the first of many, many kisses to her goofball’s forehead.

Surrogate Luna, Chapter 16
Word Count: 1.7k
Warnings:  angst, mentions of violence, mentions of death, medical situation, mentions of blood.
Tumblr media
Cinna stopped, eyes wide as she stared at the wolf in front of her.
She had caught the lingering notes from the wolf, but she’d assumed that he’d moved on when he couldn’t find her.  Just like all the rest normally would whenever they did their patrols.
Not only that, but they were never as close to her as she currently was.  She didn’t expect him to be standing in front of her.  Especially not after what had happened a few months ago, when she’d come back from building a pyre to see that Wanda was dead and Stevie was gone.
She had expected that Sharon killed everyone that had remained of the Rogers pack.  Part of her had even expected that maybe Sharon took and killed Stevie for her act of hiding away her own omega pup.  In all of her worst thoughts about Sharon, she had thought that she’d taken the body of her pup away from her, so that she couldn’t properly morn the loss.
So she hid in the last place that she and Steve had been.
In the cave just outside of his lands.
She didn’t have any idea on what to do, or where to go from there, as trying to shift and run in her current condition wasn’t an option.
She couldn’t go back to the program, not when Steve had purchased her outright.  And she certainly didn’t want to put Tony’s pack at risk.
No.
There had been enough death and destruction around her.  She didn’t want to keep Pepper’s life full of it too, by bringing back her own drama.
But in the time that she’d taken to get lost up in her thoughts, Sam had shifted back to his human form.  And his confusion was not masked.  His eyes were held firmly on her stomach.  Or rather, the swell of it.
Instinctually, a growl rose from the back of her throat, and she cradled the bump, her own worries about Sam existence becoming a nervous thought, rather than a happy idea, “what are you doing here, Sam?  H-how are you here?  This isn’t Steve’s land…or Sharon’s for that matter.”
“Y-you’re pregnant…” he said amazed, eyes still wide as they shifted to hers.  And then they fell onto her neck, where the mark had healed, left from Steve.  His lips parted and he gasped, “it’s Steve’s, isn’t it?  Your pup?  Say what you would, Luna, but I know that you wouldn’t go to someone else…not after Steve.”
She kept herself from letting her lip warble.  She had the slightest idea that maybe Sam was on her side when he called her Luna, something she knew that Sharon wouldn’t approve of, but she tried to keep herself firm.  That was, until the tears pricked the corners of her eyes before falling down her cheeks anyways.
“Well, no one else has touched me in seven and a half months!” she answered sadly, “i-I wouldn’t cheat on Steve…despite his passing…”
“Passing?  Steve’s not gone.  Sharon just-she’s gotten to him again,” Sam frowned, “he misses you…you know?  He-“
“He’s alive?” she asked, her own eyes going wide as she cut Sam off, “Steve’s alive?”
Sam nodded, “Sharon removed his mark and re-marked him…she didn’t want you and Steve connected…”
“Stevie…” she asked hopefully, trying her luck as she questioned Sam about her pup, “if Steve’s alive, then-“
“He’s safe,” he affirmed, nodding his head, “When Sharon came upon the den, she killed Wanda…but she let Stevie live…he’s her leverage over Steve now…he’s the reason that Steve hasn’t fought back…he’s doing it for your pup, Luna.”
Her heart ached for her pup, and the man that she loved, “What does she want?  Why is she doing it, Sam?”
“You, luna…she wants to find you…” he confirmed, “you’re too close to the Rogers land…Sharon’s been expanding onto other packs territories…this is now her land…I was sent to scout things out, in case of other wolves guarding their borders.”
She felt worry gnawing away at her stomach, “S-she’s pushing out?  But how?  The Carter pack always seemed more-”
“They’re savages without Steve keeping them in line,” He admitted, cutting her off, “they have no sense of honor…it’s why I was against Steve taking in Sharon to begin with years ago…but you know Steve…he always tries to find a way.”
“Are he and Stevie alright?” she asked gently, “A-are they safe?  Are you and the rest of the pack safe?”
“As we can be…” Sam nodded, confirming her questions with his own unanswered bout of sadness, “she sends what’s left of Steve’s pack to go on the scouting missions…”
“Why?”
Sam scoffed, “we’re worth less to her.  If another pack comes across us for going into their territory it matters less to her if we’re killed.”
“Wh-why are you doing it then?” she asked softly, cradling her stomach once more, “Sam…why didn’t you run with Sarah and her boys?  Why are there still wolves-“
“Our pack may be in shambles, Cinna…but our roots run deeper than just all following the Rogers pack bloodlines,” he sighed, “Steve’s been my best friend since we were pups.  His dad and my dad were best friends, just like our grandparents, and their grandparents.  Some of us believe in loyalty and honor, and that includes-“
“But what about your family?”
Sam shook his head, “those who have families left…it’s just us loners at the pack with him.  The ones who never made a family for this exact reason.  Luna…I have to bring Steve here.  I have to show him that you’re alive.  That he’s going to have another pup.  Tha-“
“Sam, no…” she said quickly, cutting him off, “Steve-he can’t-the last time he was made aware of my existence, Wanda died, and Sharon stole my pup…I can’t lose her…I refuse to lose my daughter as well.”
“She?”
“I can feel it, Sam,” she smiled softly, looking to her stomach, “she’s a fighter.  And it feels so much different than when I was pregnant with Stevie…I know this is a girl.  And this feels-primal.”
“Did you and Steve-“
A blush rose to her cheeks, “he knotted me first when we were in our wolf forms…yes…”
“Might be a sigma,” he smiled, lightly teasing his luna, “you know what they say about a primal mating…especially one that was in wolf form…”
“Sam…”
“Steve would want to know, Cinna…”
“Sam, I ca-AGHHHH!” she began, ending her comment with a scream, as a pain ran from the pit of her stomach all the way up her spine and through every nerve ending.  She fell to her knees and clutched her stomach, the tears streaming down her cheeks for an entirely new reason, “S-something…something’s wrong!”
Sam’s eyes widened as her scent quickly turned bitter, “Wh-what’s wrong, Luna?”
“It’s too early!” she said quickly, nervousness coating the air as she clung to the swell of her stomach.  Another scream erupted from the back of her throat.  Sam cursed.
“I have to get you medical help, Cinna…especially if something is wrong with the pup.”
“Sam…do-don’t leave,” she begged softly, looking into his deep chocolate eyes.  Sam’s inner wolf cried at the thought of leaving his luna, but he didn’t know how he could truly help her.  He shook his head, trying to take a step back, but she clung to his arm, “please…don’t leave me alone out here, Sam…”
“I’m sorry Luna,” he apologized, backing quickly away from her, “I-I’m going to go get help.  I promise.  I’ll be back!”
Tumblr media
“Well?”
“She was here…I-I swear, Steve…”
Sam frowned, looking at the dirt.  Steve felt a sense of loss that he hadn’t felt since the day at the den when Wanda was killed and he thought he’d never see Cinna again, as it’d become Sharon’s primary objective to hunt her down.
But in the half a day and some odd hours that had passed since he’d arrived at the packhouse and managed to sneak Steve out, he’d expressed how he’d found Cinna in the middle of a medical emergency.  And despite Sam telling him that she was in desperate need of medical attention, Steve felt a burst of hope-one that she might still be alive and waiting for him.  And Steve, not wanting to waste any time, shifted, allowing Sam to take the lead the second that they hit the forest.
They’d run through enough rain, that by the time they arrived at the spot Sam had claimed was where he found Cinna, there was nothing but a muddy pile of leaves in her wake.
Leaves, with the slightest tinge of blood on them.
It made Steve sick to his stomach, thinking that not only was Cinna out there alone, but in pain.  He knew that she needed help, but he didn’t think that she would have been bleeding.
That she would have been in distress.
And that’s when he felt the guilt gnawing away at him once again.  All of the guilt that reared it’s ugly head every time that he thought about Sharon
Why didn’t he just crush her pack?  Split them up?  Exile them? Why did he always have to reach out and help someone, even if they showed that they weren’t worthy of his assistance.
“Steve…”
And that was when his mind drifted back to Cinna.
How she’d been alone because of the previous trap that Sharon had mounted, where she killed Wanda and kept his son held hostage.
He’d been the reason why his pup hadn’t seen his mother in nearly seven months.
He’d been the reason that she was alone.
Him and his weakness.
“Sam…”
Sam looked at his alpha, before his eyes widened.  He’d caught sight of the blood mixed with the mud and pile of leaves.  He shook his head, “She knew something was wrong, Steve.  She-“
“We have to find her!” he said quickly, cutting his best friend off, “we have to find Cinna before something bad happens.”
“Steve…” Sam frowned as he looked at his friend, sadness in his eyes.  Steve’s head cocked to the side and Sam nodded, before following over to a tree, where there were three marks scratched into it.  At the base of the tree, some more blood, “Steve…it looks like something might have already happened when I went to come bring you.”

TV Guide article (October 25th 2007)
Up Close with Supernatural's Jensen Ackles: Part 1
The CW's Supernatural (Thursdays at 9pm/ET) is the little horror show that could. In a two-part interview, Jensen Ackles, who plays the ruthless but somehow adorable older bro, Dean Winchester, speaks with TV Guide about the "thrill ride" of a third season, details an off-the-set scuffle and even opens up about his usually deep-undercover personal life. TV Guide: Because of his deal with the Crossroads Demon to bring Sam back from the dead, Dean only has this year to live. That must suck. How will he be handling those dwindling days?Jensen Ackles: He'll keep going out and having fun, calling old flames to see if they want to go Round 2.... He's not wasting any time. [Laughs] But at the same time, he knows there are people out there who need help, so he keeps in the reality of hunting.
How will he be handling those dwindling days? Jensen Ackles: He'll keep going out and having fun, calling old flames to see if they want to go Round 2.... He's not wasting any time. [Laughs] But at the same time, he knows there are people out there who need help, so he keeps in the reality of hunting.
TV Guide: Will Sam keep trying to save Dean, even though he knows he'll die if he does? That's a bad bind. Ackles: Right. I have to stop Sam from doing that. But he's still trying. In each script I read, I'm getting a little bit more nervous.
TV Guide: Don't you know what's going to happen? Ackles: I don't. They won't tell us.
TV Guide: You seem to have evolved into a real sci-fi/action guy. You've done Dark Angel, Smallville, some movies and now Supernatural. Is that cool with you? Ackles:It wasn't planned at all. I guest-starred on Dark Angelas Max's brother and died. I went out for a pilot that didn't get picked up, and I went off to Europe where I got an e-mail that they wanted me back full-time. Then I auditioned for the role of Clark Kent on Smallville. It got down to Tom [Welling] and me, and they ultimately went for Tom, which was the right decision. Two seasons later, they called and said, "We've been thinking about you," and pitched me the role of Lana's boyfriend. I said, "Yeah, that sounds cool."
TV Guide: Were you happy with the way the role worked out? Ackles: It got a little tough in the middle of the season. And then it took some odd turns when I got the call from Supernatural. I had a whole other year left on Smallville, so that drastically changed my storyline. I ended up turning evil a little ahead of the plan!
TV Guide: Would you like to parlay all of that into one of those big-budget sci-fi/comic-book movies? Ackles: I'm not against it by any means. Comedy, drama, Westerns, sci-fi... it's all fine if the story's compelling and the character is interesting to me. I do like action a lot. The other night there was a big stunt and they brought in my stunt double. When I saw what the stunt was, I was like, "No, no, no. I'm doing this." They'll usually let me do it, unless it's big stuff like a wire-jump off a building — that could be a catastrophe. But [costar] Jared [Padalecki] and I would much rather have a day of action and stunts than a day of the two brothers sitting in a motel room pouring their hearts out. [Laughs]
TV Guide: You realize you have a lot of female viewers because of that emotional stuff, right? Ackles: This is true. "It's a necessary evil," we like to say.
TV Guide: After all your sci-fi roles, are you used to the passionate and obsessed cult fan? Ackles: To a degree. They're very avid, those fans. They're very passionate about the show and those characters. I like that they're very protective of those characters. I get protective of the characters as well. If I read something on the pages that I don't agree with, I'll call [series creator] Eric [Kripke] and say, "Eric, what are you doing here, buddy?" We're lucky enough to be able to do that.
TV Guide: There are Samoholics and Deaniacs out there. You each have your own coterie of fans, don't you? Ackles: What's funny is the network always talks about how we skew to a younger audience, but at the events we go to, the ones who show up at the set are usually women ages 30 to 50. It's actually pretty cool.
TV Guide: There are so many shows filming up in Vancouver — Smallville, Kyle XY, Bionic Woman.... Do you hang out? Ackles: We don't have a lot of leisure time, but I do play golf with Tom [Welling] and see Michael Rosenbaum every now and then. And Jeffrey Dean Morgan, when he's up here.
TV Guide: Out of habit, do you ever slip into the role of the "older brother" with Jared in real life? Ackles: There's definitely that dynamic between the two of us on and off screen, but I'd say for the most part we're pretty evenly on par and we get along like a couple of good buddies.
TV Guide: I hear you good buddies hit golf balls together. Who's better? Ackles: Well, I definitely play a lot more than he does. In fact, I introduced him to it just a few months ago. I got him out there and I bought the biggest box of balls you could possibly find and he ended up losing every one of them, which was funny. He might beat me at hoops, because he's taller than me.
TV Guide: You're not so short yourself, it's just that Jared's sort of a giant. Ackles: Yeah, I'm 6'1" and he makes me look like a midget! It lends itself to an interesting situation between us on set and the brothers on the show. Dean's such a short-tempered hothead, but he's also not nearly as big as Sam is. [Laughs]
TV Guide: Is it true that you and Jared had a bonding experience when you were attacked by some rowdy Canadians? Ackles: You mean when Jared, his buddy Jordan and I were jumped by seven or eight guys? There had been this fight at a bar and these guys got kicked out. They were pretty tanked. This one girl sees me walking by and says, "That's the guy," meaning she knew me from the show, but they thought I was some guy she had been fighting with. They started swinging at me and it was an all-out brawl.
TV Guide: How'd you do? Ackles: We got away and put two of them in the hospital. I got away first, then I turned around and saw three or four guys teaming up on Jared. I was like, "Oh, man!" I ran back in and I was fly-kicking at some kid, hit another guy, grabbed Jared's shirt — of course, I ripped his favorite shirt — and I was yelling "C'mon, let's get out of here!" We were pretty tight after that.
TV Guide: What does it say that the CW put you up against Grey's, CSI, The Office and even Kitchen Nightmares? Ackles: I understand the pairing of us and Smallville, the only show on the network we can really combo with. Yes, it sucks. It's very, very strong competition. They're all top-10 shows. The network's excuse for it is, "That's not your audience, it's an older audience." I disagree. The same age range watching those shows are tuning in to our show and buying the DVDs and watching them. It's hard being on a new network, a smaller network.
TV Guide: Do you feel supported? Ackles: Somewhat. They have a lot of other shows they're trying to launch, and they probably figure that once we're up and running, we can survive on our own. We've hardly had any promotion this year. My feeling is, "Take a little time with this show. You've gotten us to this level, why not put the extra energy into it and get us to an even bigger level?"
In Friday's Interviews & Features, Part 2 of our Q&A: Jensen Ackles talks about the two new gals in Supernatural town, opens up (a bit) about his own real-life romance and shares his plea to Eric Kripke.

“It’s only Pyp who says I’m too dumb to be frightened. I get as frightened as anyone. I used to be scared of Jon, whenever I had to fight him. He was so quick, and he fought like he meant to kill me. I never said, though. Sometimes I think everyone is just pretending to be brave, and none of us really are. Maybe pretending is how you get brave, I don’t know.” - Grenn, ASoS
I thought I would write a little about Jon’s colorful and eclectic group of side characters at the Wall.
There’s Grenn and Pyp (Pypar). Pyp often makes fun of Grenn as being craven however, as with many other characters we see that, he is actually brave for fighting and training despite being afraid. Grenn is not very clever and we are introduced to him as the bully who attacks Jon until we realize that it’s Jon who has been the bully. Grenn is often the butt of jokes, is big and clumsy and is seen as simple, but it’s him and Pyp among others who remind Jon of his duty when he tries to leave the Watch in book one. He’s a steadfast and a loyal friend.
Pyp had stabbed a turnip with his knife. "The night is dark and full of turnips," he announced in a solemn voice."Let us all pray for venison, my children, with some onions and a bit of tasty gravy "
Of the two, Pyp is definitely the more witty and funny one with his large ears that he can wiggle and able to do different voices and accents. Pyp used to be from a Mummer’s troupe. Alliser Thorne mocks him as a ‘mummer’s monkey’. It’s Pyp who often tries to lighten the mood with what Sam calls his ‘stupid japes’.
“Here come our breakfast arrows,” Pyp announced cheerfully, as he did every morning. It’s good that he can make a jape of it, Jon thought. Someone has to. (…) Jon had to think that it was better for them to smile at Pyp’s jest than to brood over Alyn’s corpse.” - Jon, ASoS
There is Todder more familiarly known as Toad, another of Jon’s friends - a singer of bawdy songs learned at his father’s winesink.
"You make us look bad," complained Toad.
"You looked bad before I ever met you," Jon told him.
There’s Satin who Jon thinks of as quick, clever, pretty and brave (Wait isn’t that how he thinks of Arya as well? Hmmm...) Satin was a prostitute from Mole’s Town and is currently Jon’s steward. I thought it was rather adorable that Satin searched for and got some lace for Alys Karstark to wear in her hair for her wedding.
It's the builders for me. What use would rangers be if the Wall fell down? - Halder AGoT
There is Halder who is assigned to the builders and carves the wolf’s head for Longclaw. Pyp, Grenn, Toad, Halder are part of the group of friends who bring Jon back to Castle Black when he tries fleeing the NW back in AGoT. There’s Mully, Jon’s guard. There’s Matthar who had the Septon light a candle for Ned when Jon got news of his execution.
There’s Emrick, Horse, Jace, Hop Robin and Arron - recruits that joined after the great ranging, who fought alongside Jon to defend the Wall. They are close in age to Jon, trained under him, Horse comes from Moles Town and probably thinks highly of Jon and despite following the Seven most of them say their oaths to the Weirwoods.
Then there’s of course Dolorous Edd Tollett, who reminds me of Marvin the paranoid android in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy or even Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.
"The dead are likely dull fellows, full of tedious complaints - 'the ground's too cold, my gravestone should be larger, why does HE get more worms than I do...'"
Edd Tollett lets us know how dreary and depressing life is at the wall in different ways. Apparently Edd joined the Watch because Yoren told him that women like a man in uniform 😂. There’s so many Edd quotes to choose from.
"I never win anything," Dolorous Edd complained. "The gods always smiled on Watt, though. When the wildlings knocked him off the Bridge of Skulls, somehow he landed in a nice deep pool of water. How lucky was that, missing all those rocks?"
"Was it a long fall?" Grenn wanted to know. "Did landing in the pool of water save his life?"
"No," said Dolorous Edd. "He was dead already, from that axe in his head. Still, it was pretty lucky, missing the rocks."
“We’ll defend the Wall to the last man,” said Cotter Pyke.
“Probably me,” said Dolorous Edd, in a resigned tone.
Dolorous Edd is a loyal friend to Jon Snow, someone he trusts and ends up  steward of Long Barrow under Iron Emmett, in charge of the Spearwives.
Then there are the other brothers like Cotter Pyke and Ser Denys Mallister, leaders and commanders in their own right, who vote for Jon Snow as LC rather than for someone like Janos Slynt.
“Lord Snow,” said Cotter Pyke, “if you muck this up, I’m going to rip your liver out and eat it raw with onions.”
Cotter Pyke is a bastard from the Iron Islands and is described as being violent, but we see that he is dutiful to the Watch and wants what’s best for it. He’s rough spoken and illiterate, but he does what Jon wants and leads the mission to Hardhome despite disliking the Wildlings.
He smiled a tired smile. “Do not make me die regretful. Your uncle was a great man. Your lord father and his father as well. I shall expect full as much of you.” - Denys to Jon
Denys Mallister has waited a long time to become Lord Commander and yet graciously gives way to Jon Snow
"Jon, you have the Wall till I return."
For a moment Jon thought he had misheard. It had sounded as if Noye were leaving him in command. "My lord?"
"Lord? I'm a blacksmith. I said, the Wall is yours."
Donal Noye, who gives Jon command of the Wall, whose compassion is what Jon recalls best and who dies fighting a giant in the Tunnels under the wall. Donal Noye who trusts that Jon has not turned deserter, who carries him one armed to Maester Aemon to treat his injuries
If any man in the Night's Watch can make it through the Frostfangs alone and afoot, it is you, brother - Qhorin Halfhand to Stonesnake
Man and boy I've served the Watch, and ranged as far as any. I've seen the bones of giants, and heard many a queer tale, but no more. I want to see them with my own eyes - Ebben
The Rangers who go with Jon scouting beyond the Mountains to discover Mance’s plans - Qhorin Halfhand, Stonesnake, Squire Dalbridge and Ebben. Qhorin Halfhand who teaches Jon to be a leader, Stonesnake who was last seen at Skirling pass and is still unaccounted for, Ebben who is killed by Rattleshirt and finally Squire Dalbridge.
It's always pretty women in my dreams. Would that I dreamed more often - Dalbridge to Jon Snow
Squire Dalbridge is the epitome of what the Night’s Watch is supposed to be. Brave men risking their lives to defend the realm and yet their bravery will never be known. Dalbridge is killed after staying behind to hold off the Wildlings thus allowing Jon and the others to make their escape.
"Honor set you on the kingsroad... and honor brought you back." "My friends brought me back," Jon said. "Did I say it was your honor?" - Jeor Mormont
"It takes a man to rule. An Aegon, not an Egg. Kill the boy and let the man be born." You are half the age that Egg was, and your own burden is a crueler one, I fear. You will have little joy of your command, but I think you have the strength in you to do the things that must be done. Kill the boy, Jon Snow. Winter is almost upon us. Kill the boy and let the man be born. - Maester Aemon
There are the wise men of the Watch, Jeor Mormont and Maester Aemon, from whom Jon learns the basics of leadership and the responsibility of being a member of the NW.
“Well, that’s so,” said Yarwyck. “Anyway, now that I’m standing here, I don’t recall why I thought Slynt would be such a good choice. That would be sort of kicking King Stannis in the mouth, and I don’t see how that serves us. Might be Snow would be better. He’s been longer on the Wall, he’s Ben Stark’s nephew, and he served the Old Bear as squire.” Yarwyck shrugged. “Pick who you want, just so it’s not me.” He sat down.
There are the dissenters, Bowen Marsh and Othell Yarwyck, who end up participating in mutiny and assassination, but it’s worth remembering that Yarwyck suggests that the Watch vote for Jon rather than Slynt.
Hobb's sausages were made of grease and salt and things that did not bear thinking about.
There’s three fingered Hobb who was kind enough to give Sam salted ham for his birthday, and deaf Dick and half blind Clydas.
"The bloody buggers got my leg." Spare Boot plucked the arrow out and waved it above his head. "The wooden one!"
Spare Boot and Dornish Dilly and Red Jack Crabb, Owen the Oaf and Fulk the Flea, half-mad Easy.
"What is it you smell, Dywen?" asked Grenn. The forester sucked on his spoon a moment. He had taken out his teeth. His face was leathery and wrinkled, his hands gnarled as old roots. "Seems to me like it smells . . . well . . . cold."
There’s loyal, veteran ranger and tracker Dywen with his wooden teeth who is currently missing.  Garth Greyfeather, Black Jack Bulwer and Hairy Hal who Jon sends to range beyond the wall for information and who are killed by the Weeper, with their heads mounted on spears in front of Castle Black. The rangers like Garrett Greenspear and Luke of Longtown who accompany Jon on his duties.
Men are men, vows are words, and words are wind - Iron Emmett
Leathers crossed his arms. “That battle down below? I was on t'otherside, remember? Now I wear your blacks and train your boys to kill. Some might call me turncloak. Might be so … but I am no more savage than you crows. We have gods too. The same gods they keep in Winterfell.”
There’s Iron Emmett, newly arrived from Eastwatch-By-The-Sea and trains with Jon and is named commander of Long Barrow in charge of the spearwives.  The Wildling recruits Jax and Leathers who joins the NW and is appointed Man at Arms for training the new recruits.
There’s Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun, the giant, with whom Jon holds conversations about his culture, learning the Old Tongue from Leathers. Wun Wun who loves platters of roast veggies
All in all the Night’s Watch gives Jon Snow a colorful cast of side characters to play with and if Jon does indeed end up leaving the Watch to entangle in Northern politics I will miss these crows and I hope most of them manage to stick around till the very end - especially Grenn, Pyp, Edd, Satin, Iron Emmett, Leathers, Wun Wun etc.

Fire Dogs
The fires had been blazing for weeks now, inching closer and closer to your home and firefighters were pouring in. You’d decided to stay, the fire was mostly moving away from town, thank god. The mayor had said that people who were willing to stay and help care for the hordes of firefighters pouring into town were appreciated. So even though you were a single Omega, you’d signed up. You could take in 2-6 firefighters depending on if they were willing to share a bed with one another and if you needed to sleep on the couch. You’d been assigned 3 men, all from New York City, one a Captain and all of them Alphas.
When you open the door as they walk up your sidewalk the first, a man with light hair and blue eyes, gives you a tight smile.
“Hi, welcome. I have a dog, is that okay?” The three men don’t even have to look at one another before all nodding yes. “Great, come on in.” You move out of the doorway and the three men come into the house.
“Thank you so much for opening your home to us.” The first man says, god he smells good, like sandalwood and lavender.
“It’s the least I could do.” You introduce yourself as your dog comes trotting into the room, Cooper’s tail wagging wildly. “But you can call me Fawn, and this is Cooper.”
“Sorry, I’m Steve Rogers, this is Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson.” The first man says introducing himself and the two men with him.
“It’s a pleasure. I’ll show you guys to your rooms.” You lead them upstairs and show them each to a room. Bucky takes your first spare room, Sam the second and Steve is in the master.
“Buck, you’ve got third shift, Sam you’re on first and I’m on second.”
“Do we start today?” Bucky asks as you make your way downstairs, you were given a small packet for the guys, things you would need to know like allergies, presentation, emergency contacts and dietary restrictions. All three are simple, no dietary issues, no allergies, Alphas, Sam has his wife Carol as his emergency contact but Steve and Bucky, or James as he’s listed, both have Rebecca Barnes, Bucky’s sister.
You get started on dinner and Sam wanders down into the kitchen bringing his
“So, why didn’t you leave town?”
“Nowhere to go. And the fire is heading away from here so hopefully everything will stay away from town.”
“The smoke doesn’t bother you?”
“I mean it’s not great but as long as Coop and I are okay I plan on staying. I’ve got some stuff packed up in my car and ready to go but I just haven’t pulled the trigger yet.”
“That’s fair. We do really appreciate you doing this. Letting us stay here.” He’s got such a soothing presence about him that you forget he’s an Alpha until his scent washes over you.
“It’s the least I can do,” you tell him with a smile, “so what does first shift mean?”
“Oh, it’s the really early shift, like 4am. Steve will be out running a crew since he’s a Captain back home and he’s around 10am then Bucky is 4pm.”
“What will I need for you in the morning? Breakfast? Coffee? Energy bars?”
“Coffee would be great. I usually take it with milk.” You jot down coffee and milk on a sheet of paper.
“How do the other two take their coffee?”
“Barnes likes it black, like a psychopath and Steve likes it with cream and sugar so he can’t taste the coffee.” You laugh and jot down creamer.
“Any chance you know what kind of creamer he likes?”
“Caramel I think.”
“I can always ask him too. I’ll set the coffee to go off at 3:15 for you.”
“Thank you.” Sam says as he sits down at the island. “What are you making for dinner?”
“Spaghetti. I make the sauce from scratch, from the garden.”
“It smells great.”
“Thanks, should be about a half hour. I’ve got meatballs in the oven and will have some garlic bread and green beans from my garden too.”
“You’re going to spoil us huh?” He says with a grin and you laugh, hoping that your suppressants work like they’re supposed to and keep you presenting as a Beta.
“I don’t get to cook for others often so I’m being a little selfish. Let me know if you need anything from town or want me to get anything. I’ll go shopping for the week tomorrow.”
“Are they paying you to host us?”
“No, but I don’t mind getting you guys stuff.”
“Are you sure?”
“Absolutely, I wouldn’t offer if it was a problem.” You assure him and after studying you he nods.
“I’ll be sure to let the guys know.” You chat with Sam while you cook. You learn that his wife Carol is an Alpha and a doctor. The Alpha/Alpha pair is uncommon but if it works for them that’s wonderful. You also learn that he, Bucky and Steve served together and that Carol had outranked all three.
It seems that Steve has always been the one to lead their little trio, and when the smell of dinner lures him and Bucky down you include them in the conversation. Bucky, whose scent is oranges and cedar wood, is more chatty and flirty than Steve is but there’s this quiet strength about Steve that’s impossible not to notice.
Sam goes to bed immediately after dinner but Steve and Bucky stay up and watch the news with you. You set the coffee machine for Sam and leave him a note to help himself to anything he wants to eat. Then you bring Cooper outside, he wanders your wildfire lit backyard, the orange glow is spooky and the smell of smoke is thick in the air.
“Come on Coop, it’s bedtime.” You tell him leading him to the living room. Both Steve and Bucky are gone so you change into your pajamas and get ready for bed in the bathroom then head back to the couch where Cooper is laying dead center. “Move it Coop.” He grumbles but gets down, once you’re settled you let him back up on the couch between your feet.
You wake up as Sam closes the fridge.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.” He says softly. When he turns and sees you sitting up on the couch.
“No it’s okay.” You tell him as Cooper hops off of the couch. You follow him to the back door and let him out.
“Why are you sleeping on the couch?”
“They needed three more beds so I gave them three more beds.”
“We put you out of your room?” He asks with a small frown.
“I sleep more on the couch anyway, I usually fall asleep to one baking show or another.” You tell him with a sleepy smile, you hadn’t meant to tell them they’d taken all your beds but it was too late now.
“This is your home.”
“Seriously Sam don’t worry about it.” You say letting Cooper back into the house. “Be safe.”
“Thanks.” He says and you go back to bed on the couch.
The next time you wake it’s 9:00 and you want to make sure that you’ve got something ready for Bucky and Steve for breakfast so you get up. You feed Cooper then let him out again, if there wasn’t the fire you’d let him stay outside as long as he wanted. You sit down on the couch and pull your tablet into your lap. Cooper joins you on the couch as you start to draw your characters.
“Morning.” Steve’s voice is low and soft when he greets you.
“Good morning. There are pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns and bacon in the oven. The pans will be warm.”
“Thanks,” you hear him help himself to food and coffee then he comes out into the living room. “Do you mind if I join you?”
“Not at all. Don’t let Coop fool you into any food though.”
“No people food for him?”
“Just some fruit and veggies.” You tell him glancing up at the fire captain. “So Sam said you guys were on a 4-10-4 start time but what time are you all home?”
“We’re doing 12 hour shifts, so Sam and Buck don’t overlap but I will with both.”
“Okay, I’ll have dinner ready when you get back. Is there anything that I don’t have that you need? Sam said you liked a certain flavor of creamer.”
“The French vanilla is fine.”
“He said caramel?” You glance over at him again and he has this little shy smile on his face. “I don’t mind, I need to go get groceries anyway.”
“Caramel is my favorite.” He admits and you nod then get back to your drawing. He finishes his breakfast in silence then puts his dishes into the dishwasher, Steve heads back upstairs and you hear him finish getting ready before he comes back down.
“Be safe.”
“Thanks.” He says before closing the door softly behind him.
Bucky sleeps until almost noon, you’ve taken breakfast out of the oven and put it in the fridge. He somehow looks groggy still and you’re worried he didn’t sleep well.
“Good morning.”
“Morning. How are you?” His voice is low and husky.
“Good. Did you sleep okay?”
“Yea I slept great. I could still be asleep to be honest but I might get called in early.”
“Why?”
“There are less guys at base camp right now. Apparently a group of them had some trouble on the way? I don’t know but Steve called.”
“Breakfast is in the fridge if you wanna heat it otherwise I have lunch meat and stuff for sandwiches.”
“I love breakfast food.” He says making his way to the fridge. He starts a cup of coffee then opens the fridge.
You find out that Bucky is a chatter. Which is fine but you’re glad that you’re illustrating today rather than writing because there’s no way you’d be able to focus on writing. He asks you about living in the small town, how you ended up here, about your job, when he finds out you’re an author and illustrator of children’s books he promises to buy his niece a couple books. You tell him to leave his address and you’ll send him a signed copy of the one you’re working on, he excitedly does.
When he leaves at 3:30, not being called in early, you take a break and start on dinner. You want to make sure you’ve got food ready for Sam when he gets back.
Sam comes in at 4:45, Cooper barks excitedly and Sam sinks to the ground and Cooper immediately calms allowing Sam to wrap his arms around him. You don’t say anything, just continue to cook while Sam hugs Cooper to him. You hear him talking softly but you ignore him, whatever he’s saying to Coop is none of your business.
“I’m gonna go take a shower before I eat.” Sam says at full volume, the side of his face still pressed to Cooper’s side.
“That’s fine,” you assure him, “I’ve got about twenty minutes before the rice is done.”
“Okay.” He disappears then Cooper comes wandering into the kitchen. You give him a couple of treats and tell him what a good boy he is.
Sam eats in silence then goes up to his room, you’re pretty sure he goes to bed by 7 but after the day he’s had you can’t blame him.
At 10 you start reheating food for when Steve comes in. Sure enough, 10:30 rolls in and so does Steve. Cooper greets Steve with a wagging tail, Steve gives him a little pat and heads upstairs. You hear the shower turn on and after around 10 minutes Steve is back dropping down on the couch as Cooper puts a head in his lap. Steve absently pets Cooper and you place a plate of food in front of him.
“Thank you.” His tired eyes meet yours and he gives you a little half smile.
“It’s the least I can do.” You tell him sincerely. Cooper stays with his head in Steve’s lap until Steve goes upstairs to bed. You set up your bed on the couch and set your alarm for 3:30 in the morning so you can get food heated for Bucky and coffee and food started for Sam.
You fall asleep still smelling Steve on your couch.

A hunger derived in the vampire’s chest, a blossoming swarm of contained rage that made the sheriff clench his fangs and watch with piercing eyes. The laughter that resonated from your chest made him scowl, all because he was the one that was not causing it.
Instead, it was the dog that ran around this human grill, the shifter that more often than not, tried to distance himself from trouble. He was the owner of Merlottes. Sam Merlotte was his name, he had a head full of ashy brown hair, that had ropes of grey pleated through it. He was a nice man, warm and welcoming, the complete opposite of Eric in some sense.
The Viking vampire was known, and to your knowledge to be notorious. He never allowed anything to stand in his way, and if it dared to, he would literally, rip its head off if it had one. And despite that deadly feature that he exhibited, you still claimed to have loved him. The two of you were great together, you seemingly brought out the best in him, apart from right now.
Eric grunted to no one directly as he watched you swish your head side to side, shaking it as you laughed at something the bartender said. All that you were supposed to be doing were ordering drinks, not flirting with another one of the men that had previously been head over heels for Sookie.
With one last glance at the shifter, you turned back, sitting on the opposite side of the booth that Eric had been holding. You brushed your hair over your shoulder, it was obvious that you were relaxed in this environment. It was filled with your friends and neighbours, acquaintances and strangers. But it still, despite the limitless customers, induced you with serenity.
“The drinks will be here in a couple.” Despite informing him, it appeared that he could care less about the time until the order reached the surface of the table.
“Will that animal be serving them?” In reply, you laughed, dismissing the seriousness within his tone. That was, until you maintained eye contact with the tall blonde, noticing the feral presence decreasing the size of his pupil.
“Are you speaking about Sam?” You asked uncertainty, the owner having been the only one that you had conversed with in the bar, excluding Eric, so far. “Oh my god, you are.” Your speculation had been correct, and you couldn’t help but feel a pulse of annoyance within you.
If Eric actually ever listened to you, then he would know that your friends meant the world and more to you, and that included the shapeshifter. “I don’t like the way he was looking at you.” He put it simply, and you could only scoff at his defence. It was hardly a reason for him to appear and treat you so uptight and rudely.
“What, with care? Because news flash, maybe you haven’t noticed everything that I have done for you Eric, but many times my actions have proven that you are it for me. And if you can’t see that, you may as well be human!” To support your active words, you stood, the palms of your hands planted upon the surface of the booth.
Sookie quirked a brow as her head filled with your thoughts, however she had no time to adjust to them or check how you were doing, as you stormed out of the grill, leaving Eric with a frown and a sombre glaze in his untameable eyes.
But she couldn’t help herself from taking your place looking down at the table, judgementally prying Eric with a disgruntled frown. “Did you seriously question y/n’s love with you?!” Her accent came out strong, digging into the tense atmosphere that you had strongly abandoned.
Eric rolled his eyes at her intrusion, finding it to be a familiar, yet frustrating feeling of her always bursting his bubble. “It has nothing to do with you, why don’t you talk some sense into your vampiric boyfriend instead?” He jutted back at her, standing, and brushing off any possible lint from his blazer jacket.
Reaching into his inside pocket, he grabbed a small amount of cash, placing it upon the table, and walking past the half faerie, brushing against her as he went towards the door, leaving. Eric had no worries, he could sense that even whilst he was inside, that you were there, leant up against the wall, awaiting for him to follow after you. It was inevitable that he evens would.
Your arms were crossed, and you were facing the parking lot rather than the entrance. The stature that you upheld made it rather clear that you were angry with his behaviour; and not to mention that it was also in public.
The vampire knew that you loved him, despite Sookie’s feeble accusations. Fighting was not something that the pair of you were estranged to, however it made you furious to know that he would accuse you of being interested in somebody else.
It was certain that if Pam was here she would scold her maker for his uptight, and jealous outburst. But it wasn’t as though she would have been able to prevent it anyways, considering that she was all the way across town in Fangtasia attending to the business ongoing there.
“I do know that you love me.” His voice rang out in the cold of the night, frolicking to your ears and biting your lobes as you still refused to face the tall and unfavourable vampire.
“Right now, that is debatable.” Was your retort, feeling the cold air brush against your face as you felt it pinch your nose. “To not only insult my friend, but embarrass me in front of a bar full of people, that was not how tonight was supposed to go at all!”
Your body jolted as you suddenly felt his body press against the back of your own, his large and explorative hand dragging up the skin of your exposed thigh, that was free of coverage in the casual black dress that you had opted to wear for the occasion.
“I am sorry my lovely dear, you know how I tend to be, especially when I hear other men make you evoke that wonderful and all consuming laugh that gets my dead heart to beat every time.” A hitch of a sigh caught in your throat as you tried to remain unaffected by Eric’s flattery, but it was rather impossible, more so as his hands brushed against the lace of your panties.
On reflex, you snapped his hands away from that part of you, you were in the middle of the parking lot for Christ sakes! Though that did not, nor did it ever seem to phase him, if you were to guess, you had noticed some hints leading to him having an exhibition kink. And it was not as though you had never called him out on it, though, most of the time, you happened to give into his public desires.
It was often portrayed within the context and realm of his workplace; Fangtasia. Within the club, there was a frequent case of rendezvous that the club permitted to take place inside its various walls that were filled with vampires and their lustful humans. The exchanges that took place were anything but loving, they were filled by hunger, and the curiosity that simple people, that thought themselves to be edgy and desirable to the immortal eye, all making the rooms reek of pretentious assholes taking advantage of one another.
“We are not doing that here Eric.” You scolded his efforts, despite your craving for them to take place, and ravish you no matter the surrounding that were into the background anyways. With great resilience, you swatted his north travelling hands away, making them stoic from the adequate dismissal. But Eric Northman was never one to admit defeat, he had a plaguing tendency to get what he wanted, and he was always had a route of persuasion to get it.
“Aren’t we?” He asked wispily unto your drifting head, as though he were corrupting the stubbornness that was attempting to remain untainted in the rafters that floated so correspondingly through your weightless veins. “Then why are we sneaking to the back of the grill?” His words had a frown fired upon your face as you tried to register the truth behind his words, but in time before you could ask the mysterious vampire what he had meant by his words, he had sped you away to the said part that was already close by.
“Mature move.” You muttered, and the consequences of your off handed comment had earned you the vulnerable position of being pressed right up and against the back door, that was only usable to the staff. If you tilted your head just right, you could hear the clattering of plates being stacked, and the distant voices o Arlene and Terry as they partook in a private discussion that was supposed to be inaudible to anyone else’s ears.
Beaing that close to people that you knew, and in such a compromising situation where they could easily catch you, had you clenching your thighs together, clearly frustrated by the scenario of your predicament. Clearly. And with Eric standing smugly inside of you, once trailing his fingers on the high top of your thigh, his skin tasting your flesh that was beneath the dress, did not help the matters of your hormonal state.
“I said I was sorry.” Eric reminded you, stroking your thighs with his age old touch, and at the notion, your legs quivered, responding affective to his seducing touch. “Perhaps I have to prove it, would you like that y/n?” An audible whimper fell from your stiff mouth, evicting an amused and gloating smirk out of your boyfriend. He knew what he had done, he had moulded you into a desperate mess.
“I’d rather you apologise to Sam, and whoever else you happened to insult in your time in there.” Was your response, though he tutted at it, seeing through its mask, understanding what you wanted was for him to do more than just caress your thighs, and nothing more. “Eric.” A moan slipped from your mouth, as he fondled your breasts through the bleak fabric.
At first, you thought that he was going to pull the material down to expose your womanly globes, but instead, he tore straight down the middle of the dress, leaving it hanging from you by nothing more than a thread. His action enraged you only slightly, but before you could open your mouth to tell him off for destroying your clothing, he snapped the elastic of your underwear, leaving the personal garment to drop in a discarded manner at your heeled feet.
“You are indeed a sight for sore eyes. Do you know how jealous I would be if one of those fools came out here, and saw you so exposed? There’d be no words to describe how much I would want to compel them to forget, and you thought I was angry inside. That would be nothing more than an understatement my dear.” His hands cast themselves down to grope at your ass cheeks, pulling a surprised squeal out of your mouth.
This time, you did not try and stop his feeling of your body, instead, you rather encouraged it. Wrapping your hand in his smooth blonde locks, you began to push down, which was difficult considering how high his head was, leaving your arms half up in the air as you tried to make him descend. “Do something Eric, or I will.”
“Here?” He asked with a prominent smirk, feeling your hostile glare and intoxicating pout bore harshly into him. Rolling his eyes, he sighed, giving up on his verbal teasing as he sank to his knees, looking up at you from beside your legs. He pressed a sweet kiss against your navel, trailing down, until he was nipping at the curve of your mound, his hands resting on the back of your thighs, to pull you closer as he ran his tongue along the hood of your clit, making you bang your head back against the door.
The sound made you eyes go wide, as you worried that someone on the inside must have heard, though the thought quickly subsided as Eric began to eat you alive, stuffing his tongue in your entrance, leaving you to be nothing more than a mewling victim that was in distress from the pleasure that he gave you. His nose rubbed against your clit, as he hummed delightedly against you, the vibrations causing your body to quiver.
“Stop.” You panted, though he continued, staring up at you with those light eyes, that held much darkness of his past. “Need you inside of my Ric. Please, need you to fuck me good and hard, just fuck me.” There were tears frustratedly slipping from the corners of your eyes, as you were upheld of relief as Eric moved away, undoing his bottoms, and taking his long cock out, sweeping it against your slit.
“I’ll fuck you darling; let everyone know that your mine.” His free hand held the corner of your chin, plummeting his tongue into your mouth, to have one moment of calm, before he penetrated you, leaving you in a mess that had your eyes rolling to the back of your head and deliriously spinning from the euphoria that you felt. Eric performed at a fast and unrelentingly pace, slamming you hard enough into the door for everyone to hear.
It was certain that people within Merlottes could hear the sounds that were ravaged from your lips, though you were too absorbed in your own pleasure to care at all. Eric fucked into you hard, and you appeared unfazed as someone tried to open the door from the other side, the wood splintering against your back as your boyfriend‘s strength kept it shut, pushing your floundering body back against it.
And then you felt it, the absentminded swirl in your stomach, coaxing you closer and closer to release. Eric filled you first, and then he reached down, rubbing your clit, causing a clear stream to spray out from around his cock, leaving you utterly exhausted. You were half asleep now, and so, Eric picked you up, and sped away, leaving your torn clothes upon the floor, so that anyone that found them would know that it was the pair of you that had been using the outside wall as a mattress for your engagements.

“Bucky, I swear to fucking god-” You threw the person you just knocked out onto the ground of the common room, “you have to get out of here, It’s you or this entire building!” Bucky gave you a sympathetic look as you fought off Hydra agents, your gun fired three shots behind you to another agent you sensed running up.
“But I can’t leave you!” Bucky screamed back over the fire and bullets, Hydra agents were running in from every which way. The smoke rising made it harder for him to see you and Sam, who was also there a couple seconds ago. Everyone else was trying to stop the agents from the outside or other levels. It was a complete break-in.
“Fuck all that Bucky, I love you but I can’t love you if you’re dead- Fuck!” You screamed in pure anger as you began hand to hand combat with an agent, he wasn’t good at all so it was a quick take down. “James!” you looked over to just see him standing there, his eyes were watery from the pain and smoke, “you need to fucking leave! Run!” you shouted, waving him off.
“I love you!” He yelled over, hands cupping his mouth to make sure you heard him.
“I’ll tell you I love you after this, we’ll be okay,” you looked over your shoulder to find three new agents running in, their eyes weren’t even looking at you. You looked back to find Bucky still standing there, “fucking run!” Your throat felt raw, all the screaming and fighting was taking a massive toll on you.
Bucky took off in the other direction, the fire was subsiding as he got further from you. The serum gave him lungs like no other, so running through fire and smoke was easy. With a frantic mind and tunnel vision his left and right mixed up, all Bucky was trying to find was an exit and it should’ve been easy but he’d turn back after remembering this wasn’t the right hallway. His hand was gripped tightly on his gun while the metal hand held a knife firmly, after getting his mind back he found he could throw better with his left and shoot with his right- his dominant hand is right anyway.
“Anyone on their com?” Everyone had quickly shoved theirs in during the start of the ambush; half the SHIELD agents weren’t wearing their tactical gear.
“Rogers is here,” Steve ended his sentence with a grunt.
“So is Romanoff,” Nat sounded a bit more composed but still out of breath.
“y/n is down on the main floor, she told me to run because all they’re after is me, someone needs to go down and help her,” he received a few confirmations before focusing back to the task at hand. The bright light of the afternoon sun blinded him for a second, with all the lights shutting off and the smoke it made it seem like it was night. Bucky reached up to rub his eyes to help adjust to the sun but ended up just rubbing smoke and fumes into them, “fuck!” He stumbled back against the closed door as he used his shirt to rub his eyes but that was also covered in his smoke.
Bucky reached back and grabbed a completely full water jug that was the size of his palm, Bucky could feel his heart shatter as his eyes cleared because it was you who- only a matter of hours ago -was leading a very relaxed meeting about these water bottles, ‘you need to hydrate to stay on your feet’ you had said a couple times. His mind was as clear as his eyes, the way you were screaming at him to leave, the way you stood directly between him and the Hydra agents so they had to shoot through you to get him, the way you kept looking back to him with tears in your eyes because all you wanted was for him to stay but you knew better and sent him away. The tears mixed with the water as he sprayed his face, the smoke clung to his sweat like he did to you after a nightmare. The entire Avengers building was slowly caving in on itself, he could feel his heart lurch with every new piece of the building fall on the inside, he just hoped it didn’t hit you.
He kept walking further from what he once called home, trying to get a better view of it all. He wanted to look away because he felt like all at once the building could crumble to pieces and consume you with it, there was no saving the building; and quite possibly you.
“Wh-gent-hu?” Bucky had walked too far away from the building and the coms, all of them were close to low battery because of the last mission. Bucky ran towards the building and couldn’t see anyone on the roof, but as he ran closer the clearer the coms got. “Where-agent-I can’t-what is happ-sto-!” It was three different voices screaming together at once, Bucky whipped the doors open and saw just how much the inside changed.
The walls weren’t a sophisticated grey anymore but rather charred and black, there was no roof, at all. Bucky ran into the common room to find everyone looking under fallen planks and bars of steel, he started lifting them too. Everyone was running around and screaming at eachother, everyone had a different level of injury. Steve was throwing support beams like nothing, Bucky ran over. “Who are we looking for, Steve?”
Steve just looked at Bucky with tears falling down his face, his skin was brown with dirt but his tears left trails down his skin. “Bucky, man, I’m sorry…” Steve sniffled and covered his mouth. Natasha had walked over, her hands were shaking and clutching something close to her heart.
“I think we have our answer,” Nat cried and handed Bucky the water bottles you introduced.
“Who’s-” he was cut off when Bucky flipped the bottle to check the bottom, and there in your hand writing was your name, and a little heart next to it.
Bucky felt as though his soul had just left his body, everyone was getting close to giving up the search for you. If your body would be found it would be a miracle for you to still be alive, your lungs would have been fried due to the smoke and a pillar could crush you like it was nothing. Sparks flew off of snapped electrical that could be electrocuting you at this moment, small fires still burned which could be living off our ashes, any of the pure destruction could be killing you. And yet people were giving up, by the look on Steve’s face Bucky knew he should as well.

“So you’re saying we have little squirt bottles, this is fucking great!” Sam laughed, he looked at the clear bottle that was shaped into a big teardrop, the kind marathon runners keep on their belt. He pulled a sharpie out of his pocket and wrote his name.
You sat next to Bucky who was still feeling the effects of the last mission, it was at a Hydra base to just get intel but even then, it was still hard. Everyone got back a day ago and decided to push the debrief for the next day because of the shared exhaustion. Bucky slept for twelve hours because of it.
“Do you like them?” you asked, referencing the bottles, you both held yours as you waited for the marker to be passed to you.
“Anything you do, I like, sweetheart.” Bucky pulled you into his side and cuddled with you for a bit, he had always found your touch was a good way to stay grounded. Your heart beat could be felt anywhere, and Bucky would always try and match it. The marker was passed to you both and you wrote your names, a little heart found its home next to the last letter of your name, Bucky could only smile wide and shake his head and he took the marker and wrote his.
You and Bucky made your way back to your shared room before cuddling up in bed, a movie was thrown on and you both watched it as your eyes started to close. Bucky was awake, he kept looking down at your head on his shoulder to leave a little kiss, he’d always let his lips linger on the top of your head so he could smell your shampoo. Normally you were clinging to him for warmth but he could feel you were radiating heat, your sweater was actually his and the covers were tucked to you and Bucky got the edge, this wasn’t new for him. You were almost asleep but still every minute or so you’d subconsciously snuggle your cheek deeper into Bucky’s shoulder, small little circles in Bucky’s shoulder as you got more comfy.
Bucky ended up falling asleep too, it was weird when he would wake and realize how vulnerable he was to be asleep with you beside him and the door unlocked, he would smile at himself and make a mental note to bring it up to his therapist that he slept soundly again. Bucky probably could’ve gone the entire night but was woken up by a hard time breathing, something was caught in his throat so his cough woke him up. Then his dry cough woke you up, right away your nose turned up at the smell.
“Smells like burnt,” you said and stood up, a couple joints popping back into place.
“Ya, that’s what it was,” Bucky nodded, he pulled his shirt over his nose.
“Wanda needs to leave Nat alone with the cooking thing, Nat doesn’t like to cook so I don’t know why Wanda keeps bugging her, right?” you turned back to Bucky, he was nodding along. “Everyone has their thing, cooking isn’t Nat’s thing but that's fine,” you sighed, “I’m gonna actually talk to Wanda about-”
Three bangs landed right on your door, you jumped back from it and Bucky stood up. Two guns were pulled out of the bedside tables, Bucky tossed one of them to you. The banging went again and it wasn’t a friendly bang, you both knew this wasn’t one of your friends. The safety of the guns were both pulled back with a ticking sound, Bucky put his clip in his gun, you like to use a revolver and it was already ready. The top hinge blew off and the door slightly fell forward, the lights were off and the emergency ones gave little light, there was smoke crawling through the cracks in the door. Bucky had made his way to the other side of the bed to you, now you were both in front of the door.
“Who do you think it is?” You whispered to him, your shoulders rubbed against his with quick breathes.
“No idea,” Bucky muttered back, his lips barely moved.
The door busted down and because you both were ready the guy didn’t stand a chance, the intruder fell back in an instant at the rapid fire from the guns, the sound would be as loud as the banging on the door. The intruder wasn’t even ready to fire, his gun flipped out of his holster and slid a tiny bit on the tile floors before stopping. The emergency lights hit the silver gun perfectly, you noticed red on it but it didn’t look like blood, there was some type of symbol or branding on it. You slowly walked closer, your bare feet not giving away you were moving in case someone was waiting before the threshold of the door.
“Bucky…” you whispered and turned to him, “you gotta get out of here,” you slowly bent down and picked up the gun, the Hydra symbol was hard to see now that it was not getting any light. Bucky’s nostrils flared as a way to hide what he was feeling, his mouth opened to try and talk this through but the sounds of coughing, guns, and screams took its place.
You both ran to the common room, everyone was there, fighting an agent. Coming from a third angle you took out some of the agents with your gun, they didn’t see it coming; neither did Nat as she pointed her gun in your direction.
“They want their intel back, go to the computers!” Steve screamed, you turned and ran.
Bucky joined the fight in the common room, he kept looking back to see you getting smaller and smaller down the hall. All he had was his gun and a knife he picked up from his dresser, both were used as more and more Hydra agents ran in and came from the ceiling that was falling apart.
You turned quickly into the room, computers and wires everywhere. Your time was spent in the training room rather than here, but you logged in mission reports on the computers. Hard drives of every mission, every person, and every thing were connected everywhere. Tons of information that could give Hydra the upperhand, there were still hard drives you had just stolen from Hydra that no one had looked into yet. This was all they wanted, but it was weird to see how many agents were coming in and not making their way to the intel room. You stood on guard with your gun out and ready, you weren’t wearing anything protective so you stood behind an old computer that was yet to be thrown out.
A man walked in, he was tall and slim. Brown hair curled down to his shoulders and his eyes were a dark green, they pierced right through you. You were about to shoot but he just put out his hand, his index finger coming up and wagging you off. “I wouldn’t do that,” he warned, his voice was like gravel.
“Why not?” You grunted, finger ready on the trigger.
He didn’t even reach for his gun, his hands out in front of him. “Because, you’d never shoot the messenger, would you?” His hands lowered but he kept them out. You slowly lowered your gun but kept your hands ready, fingers still holding the trigger. “I came on my own terms, no leader sent me,” He added and pulled a chair out.
“Out with it, I don’t need your cryptic bullshit!” your gun was raised again, “hands up!”
He raised them, “we don’t want intel.”
“What?”
“You stole our intel, that’s fine.” his nose stuffed up, “but you steal our weapon, rid him of his purpose...then we have an issue.”
“He’s not a weapon!” you knew exactly who they were talking about, “and we didn’t steal him, we saved him, we saved Bucky!” you yelled again, tears gathering in your eyes.
The man sat back on his chair, “I don’t care at this point, none of us do, you either give us our Winter Soldier or we will burn this place to the ground.” He stood to size you up, “the message has been given, shoot me if you want, I heard humans are flammable so I’d help burn this place-”
The man's brain flew out and hit the walls, blood sprayed over you and the computers. His knees folded in and the hole in his head slammed against the floor, you should have let him suffer but he probably was working for Hydra, and that’s suffering everyday. The man’s skin whitened in a matter of seconds, all the blood rushing out of that one spot was getting near the electrical, so you ran back to the common room.
Bucky was there, “most of them went to the roof, we got it down here!” He screamed.
“They’re after you!” you yelled and shot a few agents down, “this isn’t intel, they want you Bucky!” The smoke was flying up and with all the fast movements, it was getting harder to see him, but you saw the metal arm in the reflection.
“It doesn’t matter, I’m staying here!” He stopped to reload, but you knocked someone down and turned to face him.
Bucky took off but as he ran away, right before you lost sight of him, an arm wrapped tightly around your neck. You couldn’t see a face but you heard a voice, “he’ll turn himself in if he knows we have you, now this will hurt.” the butt of a gun slammed your temple, all you saw was black.
Time: unknown
Date: unknown
Your head hurt so bad, right as you were waking up it was a pulsing ache everywhere from between your eyes to your neck. It felt like waves, for a moment the pressure would drop but then slowly crawl back in, nothing was rigid. In the room you found yourself in there wasn’t much to register, just a cell that was a little longer than arm's length and some black box on the ceiling, it wasn’t a light but it seemed to hold something. There was no bed as well, you were sat up against the wall in a corner. As you moved to look around your neck all the way down to your knees ached; not to mention the pressure building in your head. It felt like you had been struck in the back of the head even though you thought it was in your temple when you were knocked out, your hand cupped high on your neck, right where your hair started. There was a sting and you pulled away with a hiss, a few pieces of scab came with it.
There were no windows, no source of light to see what time it was. But the fact that whatever cut was made to the back of your head was a fully scabbed and not bleeding gave away you had been asleep for a bit, that almost made it worse.
“Welcome, Soldat,” a voice with an accent came through, it was one you couldn’t figure out. “It seems our other weapon got away, we were gifted you instead; we are happy about it no less.'' the voice was coming from a speaker in the top left corner, not the black box directly above you.
“Where am I?” your voice sounded like sandpaper.
“In your cell,” you could hear the smirk, “but you’re not in Avenger’s territory anymore, would you like to know where you are?” he didn’t wait for you to answer, “I’ll give it to you if you follow this simple task, would you mind getting on your knees?” the voice asked, you stayed still, “right, I forgot. Soldat, get on your knees.” right away your knees smashed into the concrete floor. “Would you look at that, how pretty?”
“What that fuck?” you gasped out, your hands folded neatly on your lap as you sat back on your calves.
“Now that we know your abilities, you’re in Iceland, Hydra gifted us you.”
“You’re not Hydra?” you asked, this time louder and looking at the speaker.
“Oh, we are Hydra.” the voice laughed, “just not how you think we are...”

Bucky didn’t know how long he’d been curled in his bed with the curtains drawn, there was no perception of time at all. All he did was cry, all day. His body ached and crumbled into itself more and more as time went on. Everyone was mourning the loss of a friend, but to Bucky it was a lover. He held the picture you framed after your first date as a couple, that was one of the first times Bucky had truly smiled.
You both went to a really nice restaurant and when you were finished you waiter offered to take a picture because they saw you getting self conscious when your arm was up to take a selfie. The both of you leaned over the table and close to one another, right before the picture was taken Bucky reached over and placed his metal hand over yours, allowing it to be seen in the picture. It was something he regretted but after you framed it and kept it on your side of the bed, Bucky looked at it everyday with a smile.
The picture was still in the frame but it wasn’t on the bedside anymore, rather pushed up against Bucky’s chest. He’d pull it away to look at you from time to time, after picturing all the good times with you, your face seemed to change and warp until it wasn’t you. Bucky would run his finger down the glass and try to imagine the feeling of your skin again, he’d lost almost everyone in his life, all he wanted was to feel you one last time if it really was your time to go. Your smile was so bright it lit up the pitch black room he was crying in, your smile and your personality could keep an entire country running for years.
He ran out of salty tears and all that was left was wheezing and rocking back and forth in his bed, the emotions were working him out, sweat lines the neck rim of his t-shirt, but he’d also use the neck line to wipe the tears that slipped past his nose and lips. They would roll down and hit his pillow, he had already flipped it to get a dry surface.
Steve walked in, he didn’t need to knock because he knew what’s coming. Steve had watched you and Bucky grow from barely speaking to napping on the couch for everyone to see, it took a while but Steve knew from the beginning that you were perfect for him. Steve brought Bucky a sandwich everyday at noon because he refused to eat dinner and breakfast. Some days he wouldn’t eat at all but noon seemed to be the best time for him to eat everything.
“Wanda made it today actually, she added some chips on the side and made it real nice, Buck,” Steve went to the windows and opened the blinds, he did that everyday but  when he would come back 24 hours later they’d be closed. “I also have news, about y/n…”
Steve saw for the first time in four days Bucky sit up, he saw the grief fade and a small shred of hope appear.

Please continue Paranoid Bella, please, please, please I'm begging you muffin, I need to know. What happens if Billy does call Carlisle and tell him about his son's stalking and grooming shenanigans? What does Carlisle do? The poor man would just about die from embarrassment. Also, how is Charlie letting Bella move in with the Blacks? The need to know is just too great .
Anon is referring to Paranoid Bella, a character so popular on this blog, she now has a master post. Specifically, anon wants to know about the forbidden spin-off, in which Bella sought sanctuary with Billy and... bad things I refuse to touch happened.
Billy, notably, decided not to talk to Carlisle, Papa Vampire, because he assumed that Edward making Bella Dracula's Bride was typical demon behavior that Carlisle Cullen approved of.
But your second question first, since that's more in line with the original post.
How is Charlie Letting Bella Move in With the Blacks?
Because Bella pulls her typical canon bullshit on her dad. I don't know what excuse she comes up with, it's probably terrible, but dammit she does it all the same.
CHARLIE, SHE IS MOVING IN WITH JAKE AND BILLY. PEACE OUT.
Charlie has no idea what to do with this and asks Billy what the hell is going on. Billy can't really explain it and just assures Charlie that it's cool, he'll look out for Bella.
Billy is Charlie's best friend, and this is long before Jake inexplicably dumps Bella after Bella had been dumped by Edward, so he's going to trust this.
Of course, he's deeply hurt and assumes that it's about him: that Bella found him smothering or a terrible father or something, but he tries to let Bella live her own life and hopes she still wants to talk to him.
Bella probably meets up with him on weekends (in La Push) to have breakfast and things. Bella feels really shitty but she'd rather not be eaten by a vampire and figures Charlie, if he knew, would prefer that too.
Billy Decides to Talk to Carlisle
But alright, picking up where we left off, Paranoid Bella early in Twilight drives to Billy's, tells him Edward the demon is in her room every night, and Billy has his panic moment.
He considers his options.
The tribe has only one wolf, the very young and inexperienced Sam, to protect their lands. The Cullens have brought an unprecedented number of demons to Forks: if it comes to war then Sam cannot defend their territory against the vampires. They are simply too outnumbered.
Forks is not in the tribe's territory, technically, while if Bella were to be bitten it would break the treaty, Edward Cullen can creep in her room all he likes. However, it's not very in the spirit of the treaty.
Billy thinks about this long and hard, perhaps looks up Ephraim's personal accounts of meeting the Cullens, and from those determines that Ephraim, as the tribe leader, seemed to genuinely think Carlisle Cullen was an honorable man who would abide by this treaty.
Billy questions Bella further and she admits that it's only been Edward Cullen, in the dead of night, and that Edward seems to be trying to keep his family unawares. None of the other Cullens have ever approached her and the one time she met Carlisle Cullen he acted as a perfectly professional doctor: Edward only started grilling her after the man had left the room.
There's a chance he doesn't know.
If Billy truly wants to protect his people, Bella Swan, then perhaps he needs to make a leap of faith and bring Carlisle Cullen back to the negotiating table.
Billy calls Carlisle Cullen: We need to talk about your fucking demon son.
Carlisle feels a growing pit of terror in his stomach as he realizes what this must be about. Carlisle hadn't seen all the signs, per Midnight Sun, Edward had made a habit of leaving the house at night long before Bella and none of the Cullens know that he spent his midnight hours sneaking into her fucking bedroom (except, of course, Alice who gives her full support). Edward in general does his best to keep everybody, but especially Carlisle, thinking well of him in general.
However, Edward did return when the wiser action would have been to never come back to Forks, against Carlisle's counsel. He does seem to have a blossoming obsession with Bella Swan that Carlisle simply does not understand. And he's been acting erratic, paranoid, and weird. Happier than he's ever been, hooray for that, but Carlisle is notably not on Team Bella/Edward until he realizes that somehow, due to Bella Swan being in his life, Edward has become a better person (and even then he's not... necessarily gung ho).
Billy calling, somehow, Carlisle knows this must be about Edward, even if he doesn't want to admit it. Then it gets worse. Alice is desperately telling Carlisle not to go, if he goes then the coven falls apart.
Carlisle panics, "What the fuck?!" Alice has to clarify that, no, the treaty isn't broken but--Well, you know how sometimes it's better not to know everything about those around us? Carlisle doesn't know. He and Alice stare at one another, Alice begs him to please, for the love of god, don't talk to Billy.
Send Esme instead.
Carlisle does not send Esme.
As for Edward himself, those goddamn nosy tribe members are ruining his schemes! How dare they get between him and Hamburger and--
Sorry, anon, we return to this blog's BSOD state. There is no path further from here. This is the end of the road. THERE IS NO MORE. THIS IS THE END.
You have asked the ask that cannot be addressed.
Gooday.

Mario Kart
Summary - Y/N decides to engage her brothers and Castiel into Mario Kart, not realizing what she was getting herself into.
Pairings - Dean Winchester x Sister!Reader, Sam Winchester x Sister!Reader, Jack Kline x Platonic!Winchester!Reader, Castiel x Winchester!Reader
Word Count - 1,911 words
"Let's get it!" Y/N squeals, claiming her spot on the middle of the couch. She was practically bouncing up and down, waiting impatiently for everyone to join her. The Dean Cave had brightened considerably since she had added a few redecorations. While Dean initially denied her, she had forced him to allow her to put up LED lights, several polaroids from her camera(they were mostly of herself smiling widely at the camera while Sam and Dean looked mildly annoyed with fake smiles. There was also a real funny one where Sam was unconscious on a hunt and Y/N decided to pose beside him), as well as posters from their favorite bands. Not to mention the added dock to the TV stand to hold her Nintendo Switch that Sam had bought her for her previous birthday.
She supposed he regretted it now, since she was forcing him to play a game he'd never even heard of.
He entered the room first, holding a big bowl of popcorn and a soda. Dean followed close behind, Little Debbie packages hanging from his mouth since his arms were occupied with pillows from their bedrooms and a pack of beers for himself. Jack was the only one to come empty handed. He happily took the spot beside Y/N, waving merrily as Castiel also appeared with two sodas(both of them for Beth because he was just so considerate), taking the spot on her other side.
"I'll give this an hour before we switch to movie night, Y/N," Dean warned as he occupied his armchair, which was to the left of the couch. She had discovered this old thing at a garage sale. It had been a rather stressful day because Dean had refused to strap it to Baby and they had to hound what little friends they had for a truck. Since most of their friends were dead, Y/N had hot wired one outside of a bar and returned it before the drunk redneck inside could notice it had even left. She was sure the dent in the bed was there before they put the couch on it. Sam had not been happy about that.
Sam took his own armchair, which was to the right of the couch.
"What is it, again?" he asked curiously.
"Is the only thing in the media you've ever heard Facebook? You've seriously never heard of Mario Kart?" Y/N asked, happily accepting one of the sodas from Castiel. "Dad really did a number on us. I was introduced to this through Charlie." She got up to grab the number of controllers necessary for four. Jack was eager to try the game, but he was always open to trying new things, something Y/N could appreciate.
After connecting them to the Switch, she handed them out to her brothers along with Jack before returning to her spot on the couch between the angel and nephilim.
"If I remember correctly from what you've told me, it's a racing game, right?" Castiel asked.
"Exactly, except with a few quirks to make it interesting. Like, um...I could throw a shell and hit one of them and vice versa. Or a banana peel. I'll give them a trial run before we actually get into it. Are you sure you don't want to try it, Cas?"
Castiel shook his head. "I have seen how you play with Charlie, and I don't want to be on the receiving end of your anger. And I rather like watching you in your element."
Y/N smiled, blushing, before playfully pushing him.
"I need to get drunk to stomach this," Dean said, offended as he popped one of the beers open and took a gulp. "Keep the PDA to a minimum guys, you've got a kid next to you. Alright, what buttons do I push to hit Sam?"
"What the hell?" Sam scoffed.
"What?"
"We haven't even started and you're gunnin' for me?"
"Uh, yeah!"
"Alright, alright! First we gotta pick our player," Y/N mediated, pressing the buttons to get them to the screen full of Mario players. "I already got mine." She moved her icon until it landed on Wendy, before selecting her. "Obviously the best character, hands down."
The three boys maneuvered their icons over different characters, for some reason taking it a little too seriously on who they would choose. Sam selected his first.
"Luigi?" Dean scoffed.
"You got a problem?" Sam asked.
"No, but...why Luigi?"
"Who cares, I just chose him."
"You have to have a reason, man." Dean shook his head, before selecting his own.
"Why'd you choose Bowser, then?"
"Because he's a badass. And he'd beat the holy hell out of Luigi if the games lost their PG rating," Dean shrugged.
Jack hummed thoughtfully, still scrolling. "I choose him!"
He selected Toad.
"Why him, Jack?" she asked.
"I like his hat."
Y/N snorted, but it was a valid enough answer. Once everyone was ready, she selected the settings for the game and then decided to use the time to explain to them how the controls worked and anything else they were curious about. After a few trial races, they were ready for the real thing. Castiel was sitting patiently, his hands on his lap.
"You assholes are going down," Dean declared, bringing his remote closer to him.
"So much for being appropriate in front of the kid," Y/N sneered, but she was just as ready.
She set the game to go through ten races with a random select for the roads.
And with that, they were off.
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" Dean yelled, nearly jumping to his feet. His first empty beer bottle slide across the floor from his rapid movement. "I DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH IT! I DIDN'T GO NEAR THE GODDAMN PEEL!"
"That might've been mine," Sam stated, smugly. "But Bowser also takes up half the road, so avoiding it was probably impossible anyway."
Dean squinted. "You callin' me fat, Sammy?"
Sam shrugged. "Luigi's doing just fine."
Y/N hid her smile as she hit her own item, snatching that smile right from Sam's face.
"Why did you do that?" he asked, incredulous, the red shell sending Luigi off the edge of the map.
"You got in my way!" Y/N sang.
It only seemed to get worse from there. What was supposed to be an hour of playing turned into four with the bowl of popcorn thrown across the room at Dean when he had decided to hit Sam three times with three separate shells before snagging first place and doing a lewd dance as a way to declare his victory. Y/N's hair had bristled up, becoming bushier almost as though it were alive. Her right eye was twitching, and her hands were cramping by now.
Jack, however, was having a good time. He has gotten last place the entire time, but he was still having fun, and that's what truly mattered.
Castiel, on the other hand, seemed to be on the verge of a panic attack, not knowing whose side he should take because all three Winchester siblings were completely out of their minds, including Y/N.
Finally, it was the last race. Everyone's nerves were shot. Sam's hair seemed even more raggedy than Y/N's, and his shirt was stained with soda because Dean decided to take vengeance by chucking his pillow at him when Sam was taking a big gulp. They had to pause the game for several minutes while Sam fought for his life coughing and wheezing because the soda went down the wrong pipe.
"I'm afraid I must at least attempt to deter you guys from participating in another race. There aren't any weapons in the Dean Cave, but I'm sure you three will find a way to kill each other," Castiel said, worried. "Jack, are you okay?"
Jack nodded enthusiastically. "I'm having fun!"
"I will let it be known if I lose, someone is dying tonight. I will call Billie to fix it, but someone has to die tonight if I lose," Y/N threatened.
"Good luck with that, I'm kicking all of your asses, and you can kiss mine when it crosses the finish line," Dean said.
"I don't even care if I win, as long as you guys lose. And I'll make sure it happens." Sam jeered.
With that, the race began. Aside from Jack and Castiel, everyone was bloodthirsty. Surely no matter who won, someone was gonna be pissed off. Castiel was making a mental note to grab Jack as soon as possible and escort him out of the room while the siblings brawled.
"YOU SON OF A BITCH!" Y/N shouted, jumping to her feet. "WHO DID IT! WHO DID IT?"
"I did!" Sam happily announced, moving to and fro with the turn of his controller, as though he were in the game himself.
"I'm gonna get you, Sam," Y/N snarled, pressing hard on the buttons, trying her best to catch up to her brother, collecting any items she came across, but none of them were good enough, so she kept using them without thinking until she heard Dean curse and also jump to his feet.
"THAT WAS ME, JACKASS!" he yelled, completely distraught. "I didn't even do anything this time!"
"You probably deserved it anyway!" Sam shrugged, continuing to maneuver through the AIs to get to the front.
By that time, Dean and Y/N had caught up, and with all they had, they used their items to completely screw each other over up until every kart had passed them. In the end, they were the bottom three with Sam first, Y/N second, and Dean in dead last. And for a moment there after, nobody said anything. They were completely beside themselves in utter shock at what just occurred.
"What just happened?" Y/N asked, deflating considerably.
"We lost..." Sam mumbled.
"Screw you guys, I lost overall!" Dean scoffed.
"I won!" Jack suddenly cheered, leaping to his feet and jumping up and down. "I won!"
"You what?" Y/N asked, shocked as her eyes trailed to the top. Sure enough, Toad was in first place. "You're kidding!"
"I can't believe I won!" Jack said, smiling as he high-fived a proud Castiel.
"I want a rematch," Dean commanded, sitting back down and retrieving his controller.
"Yeah, me, too!" Sam agreed.
"I'm down!" Y/N eagerly agreed, about to grab hers when Castiel snatched it. He went around the room, taking up all the controllers.
"Given that it's five in the morning, and just a couple moments ago you three were ready to quite literally rip each other's throats out, I'm going to recommend everyone get up and get to bed instead," he instructed curtly. "I think we should postpone a future night of games indefinitely, at least for a little while until you three can learn to control yourselves."
"What-but-you can't-" Y/N sputtered.
"Quite literally, I can shut off whatever is necessary so you can never play the game again with just a snap of my fingers," Castiel warned. "Shower and get some sleep. Jody already told us she needed to discuss something at noon tomorrow, and it would be rude if we were tardy. C'mon, let's go!"
With a grumble, everyone got up and cleaned their mess, ignoring each other vehemently as they walked out. Except for Jack; he was practically skipping.
There was another good thing about tonight that he knew about. He was the one that triggered the lightning item that really stumped the three siblings and put them at the bottom three.

Woman Like Me - Bucky Barnes x Reader
Summary: Bucky meets someone in Madripoor who reminds him of himself a long time ago
Warning(s): language, bad writing lol
Author’s Note: this is my first time writing so any feedback is appreciated and i didn’t know how to end it so it’s horrible but i tried
Word count: 2.2K
Part 2
Tumblr media
“Selby will see you now”
The three men walk through the corridors and into the room where Selby is waiting for them. It is full of cash and guns on tables.
“You should know Baron. People don’t just come into my bar and make demands.”
“Not a demand, an offer” Zemo sits down on the couch while Sam and Bucky stand on either side of it.
“A lot has changed since you were here last” Selby eyes Bucky up and down, clearly recognising him as the Winter Soldier “By the way I thought you were rotting away in a German prison” she turns back to the man sitting in front of her and lifts her eyebrows “How did you escape?”
“People like us always find a way, don’t we?” Zemo shrugs “I’m sure you’ve already figured out what I’m here for”
“Yore taller than I’d heard, Smiling Tiger” the woman points at Sam then smiles at him, not paying attention to Zemo anymore. Sam nods slightly, trying to speak as little as possible. Selby playfully purrs at him, joking about his name. Sam looks away not wanting to give her the satisfaction of replying to that. She turns back to Zemo and smiles.
“What’s the offer?”
“Tell us what you know about the super-soldier serum” Zemo stands up walking over to where Bucky is standing acting like the Winter Soldier “and I give you him, along with the code words to control him, of course” he holds Bucky’s shoulders while he tries his best to not react. That was not part of the plan. But of course you can’t trust Zemo to not change it to whatever benefits him.”He will do anything you want” he grabs a hold of his chin insinuating things Bucky doesn’t even want to think about. He hates it. Feeling like a toy between the two and he can’t do anything about it. Not if he wants to succeed in getting the information they need.
“Now that’s the Zemo I remember” she smiles, pleased. “I’m glad I decided not to kill you immediately” Zemo sits back down on the couch waiting for Selby to start talking.
“Yeah you were right to came to me. Arrogant, but right. The super-soldier serum is here in Madripoor. Dr. Wilfred Nagel is the man you wanna thank. Or…” she looks at Bucky for a second “condemn, depending on what side you’re on.”
“Is Nagel still in Madripoor?”
“Oh. The bread crumbs you can have for free but the bakery is gonna cost you Baron. And unfortunately you don’t have the means to pay me” she stands, walking closer to Sam. Bucky immediately tenses, ready for a fight. Something doesn’t feel right.” I don’t need your Soldier” she smiles, something sinister behind it ”as I have my own little puppet. Tell her to come in” the three of them freeze as one of the men with guns goes through a door in the back.
They hear his voice but can’t make out what he says. When he stops talking a woman walks out, into the room they’re in. Bucky feels like his world is turned upside down. The woman is fully decked out with guns and knives and is wearing tactical gear with combat boots. But that’s not what unnerves Bucky. It’s the dead, soulless eyes that stare back at him. A cruel reminder of what he used to look like.
“Come here girl” Selby smiles and the woman complies without a question never taking her eyes off the strangers in the room “look at that. Isn’t it amazing what a few words can do a person’s mind when said in the right order?” Bucky finally looks at Selby realising she is watching him “Isn’t that right Winter Soldier?” Bucky can’t speak. He knows he can’t break character, but it’s damn hard not to when he sees someone like him and he knows he should help.
“How is this possible?” Zemo breaks the silence, clearly baffled by seeing another winter soldier-like person.
“Well it was quite easy to get a hold of Hydra’s files in Madripoor” Selby walks behind the woman who can’t be older than 25 and puts her hands on her shoulder. “Don’t worry though, they were sadly destroyed after we used it once on her. But we got the perfect soldier out of it” Bucky tenses at the mention of the perfect soldier. That’s what he was called back then. I need to help this girl he thinks I can’t let her go through the same shit I had to go through. He looks at Sam who is already looking back at him. They seem to think about the same thing.
“Harcos…” Selby starts talking in a foreign language but she is interrupted by a glass window shattering. Bucky sees Selby on the floor dead, a bullet hole in her chest and he immediately goes into fight mode. The woman or harcos he should say doesn’t waste any time and takes a gun off her back but before she can start shooting he is in front of her. He tries to twist the gun out of her hands but he finds out that she is strong. Too strong for her to be human. She is a super soldier which shouldn’t surprise him at this point but it still does.
They start fighting but their strength is evenly matched and Bucky doesn’t want to kill her. He uses his metal arm to finally grab the gun from her and throws it to the side. She kicks him in the chest and he is flung backwards into the wall. Bucky gets a hold of the gun he threw away and knocks her out with the back of it. The others finish fighting as well and they look at each other.
“Now what?” asks Sam looking at the woman lying on the floor.
“I recommend we kill her” chimes in Zemo before Bucky can start talking.
“We are not killing her” Bucky goes and picks her up, thinking about how they could get her out of here without drawing too much attention. He hold her bridal style and puts her head against his neck, hiding her face.”we need to get out of here and fast” Zemo walks to the door, opens it a little and looks through the open space.
“Put down your guns and follow my lead” the other two are hesitant to do what Zemo says but they don’t really have any other choice. They walk through the doors and out into the streets trying to look as casual as possible. Well, as casual you can be with an unconscious woman in your hands. But in Madripoor it’s not an uncommon sight so no one really pays attention to them. That is until every single person in the vicinity starts getting text messages and looks at them. Shit they know what happened Bucky thinks and they start to walk faster. Suddenly the people around them get out their guns and start shooting at them. Zemo runs to the right while Bucky and Sam start running straight down the street.
“I can’t run in these heels” Sam shouts trying to keep up with Bucky who is running slower than he could so he doesn’t leave Sam behind. They turn into a darker alley with to people on motorcycles following them. Suddenly two shots rang out from somewhere in one of the buildings and the motorcyclists are dead on the ground.
“You seem to have a guardian angel” Zemo shows up, out of breath from all the running.
“Well this is too perfect” Sharon shows up out of nowhere holding a gun in her hands. Her eyes immediately go to the woman in Bucky’s hands and the men can see her surprise. “Please tell me that’s not Harcos in your hands” Bucky looks down to see the woman, who seems to be calmly sleeping. How she didn’t wake up while they were running around is beyond him, but he is glad he doesn’t have to fight her again.
“Would you believe me if I said no?” asks Sam trying to lighten the situation.
“We need to get out of here before they see you carrying around Madripoor’s most valuable asset.” Bucky tenses, pulling her closer and not liking how that sounds. Asset. The word brings back horrible memories of times he would much rather forget. He needs to help this girl. He will not allow someone else be called asset “come on, I have a place in High Town where you can lie low” Sharon starts walking and the men follow him, Sam dragging Zemo with him.
They walk into her place which is filled with stolen artwork, that turns out to be the original.
“So can you tell us who is this harcos that Bucky decided to save?” Sam sends a look at Bucky who is putting the woman down on the couch. She is still out cold which is starting to get concerning.
“Y/N L/N. 24 years old. Has been a super soldier since she was a kid. She was Nagel’s first patient” she draws air quotes with her fingers ”well… the first successful one anyway. And when the Blip happened Selby used the chaos to get the files on the brainwashing and used it on her. Her memories are not gone like your resident Winter Soldier here but she still has trigger words that turn her into a mindless killing machine” they all watched the girl who started to stir awake from her deep sleep.
“Uhm… how are we going to go about this?” Sam watched her intently, getting ready for a fight. Bucky was still standing next to her when she opened her eyes staring straight into his. She sat up, panicked trying to crawl back from him. She obviously knew who he was and she was scared. How is she scared of him? She is supposed to be a super-soldier.
“What do you want?” she speaks for the first time.
“Hey it’s okay, we don’t want to hurt you” Sam walked over to her trying to calm her down. She snaps her head at him.
“Well then I would like an explanation” Y/N is till unsure about them but once in her life she wants to trust people and maybe the Avengers would be a good start.
“Do you remember fighting me?” Bucky speaks up.
“Yeah, kinda hard to forget fighting the Winter Soldier” she looks back at Bucky.
“I’m not him anymore” he shakes his head.
“Well at least someone got out of this thing” she shows a pained smile
“I head you have trigger words too”
“Yes and I would rather you don’t say them” he can’t understand how she can joke about something like this.
“We don’t even know the words” Sharon speaks
“Although I wish I did” Zemo smiles trying to get a rise out of y/n. But he doesn’t know her so he doesn’t know that that’s a very hard thing to do. Oh she gets angry easily but she was trained to not show it and not act on it.
“Very funny Zemo” she sends him a mock smile. He seems surprised that she knows who he is which she notices “Yes I know who you are, don’t be so surprised. So what are the Avengers doing in Madripoor?” she turns to Sam.
“A group of people got hold of the super-soldier serum and they used it on themselves so we are trying to stop them” Sam explains
“Sounds fun”
“I think she would be a valuable help” Zemo speaks again and Bucky immediately thinks that he has some ulterior motives.
“Stop your schemes Zemo” Sam shuts him down but y/n seems to be deep in thought.
“I mean she could help…” Bucky starts but Sam sends him a pointed look so he shuts his mouth.
“We do not need another liability with us” Sam looks at y/n who is already looking at him “No offence”
“None taken, but I agree with James” she stands up and walks over to Sam “I understand that I’m not stable, but I know what it’s like to have the serum in your veins and I want to help any way I can. As long as no one says the words I’m good”
“Yeah that’s exactly my concern. What if someone does know the trigger words and uses it against us? Against you?” he points at her. She thinks about if for a second.
“Okay how about this? I go with you but only step in to help when you say I can.” She offers, a hopeful look in her eyes. Sam knows she just wants to help but it’s still risky. He sighs.
“You can come if you do what I say. But if I feel like you are risking our mission you are sitting it out and only come in when I tell you to. Understand?” he says firmly, holding out his hand. She takes it and they shake hands.
“Let’s get these super-soldiers”

since I never made a post for these, here are all of MY ideal endings for sam (and how I would do them) that I spite-wrote after a coworker told me about how perfect his finale was <3
HUNTER NETWORK ENDING: Sam establishes an official network for the American hunters, leading a new generation of hunters as the antithesis of John Winchester. One of the final shots is a montage of all the hunters working and saving people all across the country, proving the Winchesters are no longer alone in the world.
SAMWITCH ENDING: Sam becomes a full-fledged witch thanks to all the magic supplies he inherited from Rowena and blends hunting/witch shenanigans. He can still be powerful but now he gets to choose where that power comes from. Okay this is basically Goldenrod Revisions, leave me alone.
SEPARATE WAYS ENDING: Sam and Dean both alive but living / hunting apart, going their separate ways like a parent and child who is finally leaving the nest. Sam gets the independence he always wanted while also getting to keep his brother in his life, because this is the ultimate proof that Dean trusts him. For the first time, they can move on without the reason being the other is dead. They no longer doubt they will always be there for each other even if they’re not living under the same roof anymore. The episode ends with Sam breaking into Dean’s [insert post-finale residence of choice here] in a callback to the pilot, saying he was in the area for a hunt. The last lines are Sam asking if he wanted to reunite for the hunt for old’s time sake and Dean saying “looks we got work to do.”
PODCASTER ENDING: Sam starts a podcast about the supernatural discussing urban American legends, myths, and mysteries that also helps viewers know what to look for and maybe even teaches them to defend themselves. Some take it as fiction, some use what he tells them to save their lives. It hits the top of the paranormal/mystery charts. The Ghostfacers, whose attempt to get into podcasting failed, ARE livid.
THEY BOTH DIE AT THE END: Sam and Dean both die in a blaze of glory, sacrificing themselves to defeat Chuck and bring back the rest of the world. They both get a moment to say an emotional goodbye to Jack and to each other. The two get a massive hunter’s funeral where all the past hunters come to mourn them and talk about their impact. Jody’s speech probably makes us cry. They get to Heaven at the same time, where they are greeted by all their past friends and family at the Roadhouse. On Earth, they live on forever as urban legends and heroes.
SAM & ROWENA ENDING: Sam says #FuckHeaven and spends his afterlife in hell as the consort to Queen Rowena, drinking margaritas all day, living his best life and stopping any demon uprisings in their tracks. Anytime they give him a hard time, he reminds them that he was Azazel’s boyking and they’re just Random Demon #489. What are THEY doing with their life.
SAM & EILEEN ENDING #1 - MARRIED HUNTER LIFE EDITION: Sam and Dean both survive and continue to hunt / live together, except now Eileen and Castiel are around and live in the bunker with them too after Cas was saved in [insert Empty rescue scenario of your choice.] Sam has some deja vu to the vision he had of all four of them living together in 15x09. He realizes that this is actually real and not a vision; that they are actually together, at peace and beat Chuck. The episode ends with them going to have the movie night that they never got to have in the vision. As Eileen takes his hand to go to the movie room, you see two engagement rings on their hands. Sam realizes that his journey may have started with losing Jessica but he found love again, and that while once upon a time all he and Eileen wanted was revenge, they’ve finally both found peace.
SAFE HOUSE ENDING: Sam starts a trauma center/safe house situation for hunters and ex-monsters to recover and heal, dedicating his life to proving that no one is beyond saving and everyone can redeem themselves and defy fate like he had. Mia Vallens, the shapeshifting grief counselor, is on payroll.
SAM IS THE AUTHOR NOW ENDING: Sam narrates the finale the same way Chuck did for the original series finale "Swan Song", further proving that they are now in control in their story. We get Sam's POV as he tells us what happened to all the other hunters and side characters, as well as him and his brother, with flashbacks from all fifteen seasons and young Sam & Dean growing up together. The episode ends with the reveal that Sam actually finishing the journal entries for the Winchester family's edition of the Men of Letters Bestiary, putting the finishing touches on some monster entries and his own personal anecodotes. He treats the Bestiary like a journal, in a callback to After-School Special where Sam almost became a writer and wrote about his and his family's hunting stories.
BABY JACK ENDING: Sam raises Baby!Jack after he is de-aged and “falls” to Earth in the same fashion the angel Anna once did. Baby!Jack wears overalls that don’t say his name in giant letters because Sam is a good parent who would never do that to his child. The two have a happy life as an adopted father/son duo who defied everything Lucifer and Heaven wanted them to be.
SAM & EILEEN ENDING #2 - EUROTRIP EDITION: Sam going on a year-long vacation around the world now that he has a cool Irish girlfriend who is not afraid of planes, leading to a fun exploration of the supernatural in foreign countries. Who is Dean.
DOG SHELTER OWNER: Sam owns a dog shelter and gets to walk at least ten dogs a day. Jack helps out and Miracle is the HBIC. Life is good.
CHUCK WINS ENDING: Sam lives and Dean dies, Sam throws a funeral for him that no one attends but him and a dog, and moves to the suburbs to live a generic white picket fence life with an unidentifiable wife. As a montage of Sam’s life plays, the camera pans away what looks like a computer and Chuck’s old office. A string of quotes can be heard in the background (“we’re just hamsters running around in a cage” “what would you rather have: peace or freedom?” “I can do anything...I’m a writer” “We will never give you the ending that you want / We’ll see”). The final shot is Jack, dressed in Chuck’s clothes and glasses and using his mannerisms, typing away at a typewriter. He writes “The End” but punctuates it with a question mark instead of a period. His computer screen and our TV screen both go black.

Can I request The Avengers with winged!male!reader, who is a new member of their team? Reader is a ball of joy and love, he's like everyone's kid, until he gets snatched by Hydra agents and later is found with one of his wings cut off, leaving a permanent and ugly scar on his back. After that he shuts down completely, lays in his bed all day long and doesn't talk to anyone : he became a wreck of the person he used to be.
I really would like to see The Avengers helping him cope and Tony coming up with some crazy idea, which lead to Reader receiving a prosthetic wing and once again becoming an official member of The Avengers.
Anon, you are a true genius!
warnings: hydra (so also torture, a bit of gore, and kidnapping)
+ implied Stucky
I called the male reader Icarus, you’ll find out why ;) I may be a little bit too obsessed by mythology. Sorry that I didn’t write with ‘you’.
wordcount: 2424
Requests are open!
Icarus was found by shield at age 15. He had been an experiment of hydra for 3 years. He remembered the day the Avengers had infiltrated the facility where the majority of hydra worked. He remembered hearing the explosions and screams while he was trapped in the many cells of the building’s basement. The only occupied cell what that of his.
He had felt his surroundings shaking, had felt the dust falling on him as the building was ready to collapse. And then the bombs stopped getting fired. The screams had stopped. Icarus had thought the fight had completely stopped and that the people were either dead or that the people had fled. Icarus had thought no one was coming for him, and that he was trapped in his cell, no way to escape.
But then he had heard a single loud bang. It came from the door leading to the basement. He saw that the metal door had an imprint of a fist in it. Then he heard another loud bang, and saw how the imprint expanded. After a few more hits, the door gave away and fell to the floor.
A man with a metal came walking up to him. Icarus knew who he was, emphasis on was. Because the man ushering towards him wasn’t the Winter Soldier anymore. That was what the agents had told him.
“Hey kid. Hang on in there, we’ll get you out as soon as possible.” He said and came closer and inspected the outside of his cell. More specifically, the keypad in front of it. “Hey Stark, I’m gonna need your help here with some tech.” Bucky came even closer to his cell and Icarus’ eyes widen as his hands neared the glass.
“Stop!” Icarus yelled. Bucky froze at the command, and dragged his eyes up slowly to the panicked boy in front of him. “You can’t touch the glass.” Icarus warned him, his tone a bit softer. “It’ll trigger the alarms and then gas will come out of the ceiling.” Bucky frowned looked up at the top of the cell. In each corner was a camera, along with a small metal tube coming out of the walls. He supposed that the gas would come out of there.
“Is the gas deadly?” He asked the boy, there were probably going to trigger the alarms trying to get him out. But they would have to find another way if the gas is really dangerous.
“No,” Icarus started, “it just makes me go to sleep.” Bucky nodded as stepped away from the glass container. They would have to wait for a few minutes until help – the help being Tony- arrived.
“So…” The boy drawled out, “Are you really a 100 years old?” He wanted to look at Icarus with a ‘are you serious’- look but as he saw the curiosity written on his face, he responded a soft smile.
“I’m 106 years old.” He felt a pang of amusement as he watched Icarus’ eyes widen.
“Isn’t that a bit weird?” Bucky tilted his head, silently asked the boy what he meant by that. “You know…with friends, and lovers. You’re much older than them.”
Suddenly Stark entered the basement and said: “Well, Bucky doesn’t have any problem with that seeing as his boyfriend is also a super soldier and also very old.” He strutted over to the keypad on his cell. Icarus stared at him with wide eyes because – oh my God this is The Tony Stark.
“Friday baby, tell me how to get the angel out.” He said. Icarus blushed a bit, most of the agents didn’t call him an angel because of his wings. But rather demon. He didn’t which one fit the best seeing as he had neither white wings, nor black, but brown wings.
Tony was quiet for a few long seconds. He looked concentrated, not that they could see his face through the helmet, but his head was tilted just a bit. He let out a loud drawn-out sigh and said: “Yeah, no can do, that’s going to take hours. I’m just gonna blast it.”
Icarus straightened up immediately, if he were to do that he would just trigger the alarms. It wouldn’t do much to the glass either, because it was made of something special. Before Icarus could let out a warning, he heard the zooming of Iron Man’s blasters and then he heard a small explosion.
The boy made eye contact with Bucky after he saw gas coming out of the metal tubes. Just before he slipped into unconsciousness, he picked up the curse words both of the men let out.
Only a few hours later did Icarus wake up. It was very quiet around him, but there was also an unfamiliar sound that he didn’t recognise that made him realise that he wasn’t in his cell anymore. Did the agents change their mind on waiting a few more months to send him on a mission? Did they suddenly decide to get rid of him? Did they-
“Ah, you’re waking up.” The voice was so much more gentle than he was used hearing. It reminded him of how his family used to talk to him.
They were dead now, by the way, with courtesy of hydra.
Icarus opened his eyes and looked to his right where the voice had come from. He recognised the man, he was the Falcon. Sam was still wearing his suit, with his metal wings. Icarus eyes fell to the said wings and frowned.
“You know, you guys are in big trouble.” The people around him straightened up. Already thinking of the possible things the boy could say. There was something you didn’t think about, this was just a distraction and now the shield base has been taken care of properly. You lost-
“These are copyrighted.” Icarus pointed to his own wings. “I could sue you for plagiarism.” Sam lowered his head in relief as he let out a little chuckle.
“I’ll pass it on to the boss.” He said as he looked to the other side of Icarus. The boy followed the line of sight and saw Tony sitting on the other side of him. He was immediately attacked with concerned questions about how he was feeling. Tony told him that they were going to bring Icarus somewhere safe, there were going to give him a home. But all Icarus could think about was, oh my God, this is The Tony Stark.
Icarus was 16 when he started his training. He was done basically living in the hospital wing of the tower. Apparently hydra had really taken a toll on him. Physically and mentally.
He had begged the captain to train him. But Steve had refused time and time again claiming that Icarus wasn’t ready yet.
Between recovery and asking for training, he became friends with Sam. Well, he became friends with everyone. You could even say that he became their family. But it happened with Sam the fastest. Sam took care of him from the start. He visited Icarus every day to check up on him. He helped the boy get comfortable. Icarus saw Sam as a…dad?
They would fly together almost every night. They would soar over countless buildings in New-York. They would stop on skyscrapers and talk about everything and nothing. Sam became his best friend, he became his family.
Icarus was 17 when he realised how much the Avengers truly cared about him. It was his first mission, and the Avengers were acting like overbearing mother hens. It wasn’t even a big mission, it was just to pick something up and bring it from place A to B. But due an unexpected rainstorm Icarus couldn’t fly back. He arrived hours later than he should’ve had at the meeting point.
And to say he had received an ear full about it was an understatement. For the next few days after that mission, he had heard one rant to the other. It was all the same: about how he was precious, about how bad it would be to lose him because he was their family. He was their ray of sun- no scratch that- he was their sun. He was their kid.
Icarus was 18 years and 2 months old when one of his mission went seriously wrong. Sam wasn’t there to support him in the sky. And Tony was needed on the ground. But as multiple planes left to escape, he had to go after them. There weren’t only hydra agents on those plane, but also innocent hostages. Hostages that would probably get used for the same purpose Icarus had been used for.
So he couldn’t just let the planes go. He went after the plane of which he thought was filled with hostages, but was only filled with agents. He had entered the plane just before it’s backdoor had closed. He realised his mistake as he was suddenly surrounded by a dozen men with guns.
One of the men closest to him raised his gun towards him and shot. Icarus felt a sharp prick on his neck and he already knew what was going to happen. Just before he slipped into unconsciousness, he picked up the curse words his family let out on the comms.
Icarus was 18 when he was recaptured by hydra.
Hydra had claimed they had no use for him. They already had a better reproduction of him.
But that didn’t mean that we are just going to get rid of you, no stupid demon boy. We are going to have a bit of fun with you.
Icarus was 18 years and 5 months when he lost one of the most important things of his life.
He lost of one his wings. That means that he not only lost one of his limbs, but he also lost being able to fly.
He wouldn’t be able to do the thing he loved the most, he wouldn’t be able to fly anymore.
Icarus was 18 years and 8 months old when the Avengers had to save him again from hydra. But the boy they saved wasn’t the Icarus that had been captured. He was missing something –besides from the obvious; his wing.
From the moment Icarus had returned home, everything went just a bit worse day by day. He was unhappy, of course he was. Not only had he lost his wing, but he also had a very large scar where it used to be.
He felt terrible. He would spend almost every hour buried under the safety of his blankets in his bed. He didn’t leave his room, no matter how much his family tried to get him out.
One day Bucky entered his room, he brought some tea and breakfast with him. “Good morning, little angel…” The rest he said fell on deaf ears. Icarus had buried himself under his blankets himself.
A few seconds later felt the cold rushing over him. The bed dipped beside him, Bucky sat on the blanket so that Icarus couldn’t use them to hide anymore. But it didn’t really help much as the boy just turned his back to him, his one wing currently hiding himself.
Bucky cleared his throat. “Look, I know how much this sucks. I lost my arm, I know how it feels.” Suddenly Icarus had sat up, and was now looking at him with an angry face.
“You think you know how I feel?!” Icarus pushed him off the bed. They were now both standing with Icarus pointing a furious finger at him. “You just lost your fucking arm! I didn’t just lose my wing, no I lost the thing I loved the most! I can’t fly anymore, and you know whose fault is that?” Icarus kept walking closer and Bucky kept stepping further away from the boy.
“It’s my fault! I was overtaken by my giddiness of the mission and I got distracted, I was too overconfident.” Bucky was almost in the hallway with the way he kept backing up.
“And besides, James. You got a metal arm in return. You can still do everything!” Unlike Bucky, Icarus didn’t have another wing.
And that, had given Bucky an idea.
Icarus was 18 years and 11 months when Tony had dragged him out of his wing towards his lab. He didn’t give him any choice to struggle back, he was coming whether he wanted to or not.
Tony had covered his eyes just before they entered the lab. He had made him sit on a stool. He heard a few nervous coughs, so he knew that the other were there as well.
Tony granted his sight back after a few seconds of rambling something that Icarus was too tired to listen to.
“-and we hope you will like this…”
In front of him, on a stand, was a metal wing. It was a similar size of his own. He had thought: what is the point of a monument? But then Icarus realised that what he was seeing wasn’t just a metal wing, it was also a suit. He felt a few tears roll down his cheek and immediately afterwards felt someone’s arms going around him.
“Oh, it’s alright, angel. It’s going to be alright.” They let him cry his heart out, patiently being there for him.
It was a few days later that Icarus sat in the craftsman’s lab again. Tony was securing the many straps on his new suit. He explained him the rules of the new suit, of what it could and couldn’t do. “Now, Sam will help you fly again. He knows how the metal wing work. My advice for now is to not fly too low, or too high. You don’t want to hurt yourself.”
Icarus was 19 when he was given back the thing he loved most; being able to fly. He was able to be happy again. He picked up the nightly flights with Sam again. Sometimes staying away from the Tower until 5AM. He was almost back to his normal self; he was already back to being the most energetic member of the team, and he showed how grateful he was almost every second of the day.
