My soldier
Drenched in your melodic tone,
I long for a time that was much simpler.
A time where your touch was easier to attain,
And I did not worry about walls or the harsh reality of our future.
Your hair has gotten longer,
You use it as a way to forget the savagness of war,
And although I spend nights stroking your hair softly,
I know that if it were to ever stop,
Your dreamy and magnetic eyes would open in fear that I would be gone,
And like the aging tattered pages of the letters you wrote,
I shift through memories in hopes that by going through it together you will learn I swore myself to you,
And with your love i will try my best to support you in times of need,
Because I know you deserve it.

Lost another army buddy to suicide today. Just had a baby and had started his own business. One of the best mechanics and welders I ever met. A caring and compassionate man. Always ready to help people, always good for a laugh.
But he just couldn't live with the things he saw and the things he'd done. The part Stripes leaves out of this is that the ANA shooter was like a kid. Like a teen. And he didn't just finish him off by hitting his head. He beat the ANA dude's head into a pulp. That haunted him for a long time.
If any of you are ever struggling, remember that you're not alone. The VA is never gonna have our backs. We have to have each other's backs.

Idk why but I am infinitely more comfy reading about sex than seeing sex anywhere like I’m fine reading a novel with gratuitous sex (I actually quite enjoyed The Mirror in the Well by Marcom and big recommend) but when it comes to like TV I’ll literally drop an entire show because of it lol

I have always kind of ignored my creative side, mostly because I was too wrapped up in my unresolved trauma.
Now that I've realized and accepted what was going on and started healing myself I've been feeling artsy....
This isn't finished but progress is progress...

Storm Ridge Ranch parent testimony
My son just opened up for the first time in 3 yrs 5 days ago. He Was at Storm Ridge Ranch for six months from May 5, 2016 to November 2018 right before Thanksgiving. We were lied to by Darren Swalberg and other staff members.
I went to visit my son that November, he was acting extremely paranoid and afraid. His behavior was not normal and he was worse off than when we first sent him there. My son suffers from PSTD from attending Storm Ridge Ranch. He was never abused physically, but he suffered from verbal abuse and mental abuse and they made him and other kids work beyond what anyone should do. He witness little boys being beaten until bloody and one kid was forced to clean up his own blood.
Storm Ridge Ranch hires people who were in prison for assault and battery, drugs, armed robbery, etc... This place was recommended by the state of Utah and that was my reason for choosing it. Please do not send your kids to Storm Ridge Ranch. I sent my son there for horse therapy and ended up sending him to HELL.... Please do not make the same mistakes as all of us parents did. As a response to the person who wrote on Sept 22, 2018. You are wrong and have no right to write a good review. You are probably a staff member or one of the owners.
I know what the Bible says the Holy Bible as Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Not mormon or any other religion. I trust God will make all the wrongs right on behalf of the abused kids and ALL of the Staff members and the Owners will have to meet God Face to Face one day and God will be the Final judge. Jesus suffered a horrific death, But God turned it around to Honor and Glorify him... God is our Redeemer and He redeems in the most perfect way. I pray for spiritual, mental and physical healing for all of the kids and families. I pray that Storm Ridge Ranch will close for ever in The Mighty Name of Jesus Christ......I trust in the Lord and he Always answers my prayers as long as I pray according to his word.

I found this on my twitter feed and I follow a few Selective Mutism accounts to help me understand more since my friend has Selective Mutism.
I couldn’t help but to say in this blue picture, it goes with all mental health in general. I’ve always said healing from trauma is a fucking process and it takes a long time, healing never happens over night.
I know, Selective Mutism is an anxiety disorder, I get it. Don’t bitch at me.
I just could not help to notice that the blue picture is the same with all mental health. For anyone to get better, you have to recognise the bad the good and the ugly. It’s part of healing, no one can avoid it because that just makes things worse. You have to acknowledge the bad feelings to get better, it’s hard yes. But honestly, it’s the only way. I know because I have to do this with my CPTSD.
I’ve always said, you don’t have to have Selective Mutism or CPTSD to understand mental health. It affects everyone, in all different ways.
Just be kind to yourself and you will get through this.

A fun fact I probably should have included about Cohoots in their little bio:
Cohoots that are taken in by the Hunter’s Guild are trained to be emotional support animals, just as they are to be hunter aids.
Because of their loving, supportive nature, they are ideal for helping humans going through trauma or PTSD episodes. They can’t actually stop the episodes, but their support can help their owners through it, & sometimes even shorten or snap them out of their episode, so they are very good at sensing distress in others.
The particular Cohoot Violet comes across was undergoing such training, so they will stick by others they sense are feeling panicy or stressed out.

Examples of Exposure Therapy
If you're still unsure as to what Exposure Therapy may look like, here are some example situations and how you may be able to tackle your fears and phobias:
Being In Groups
With your partner, join a small group of friends and remain there for 5-10 minutes, participating only minimally (ex: commenting on the weather.
Without your partner, join a small group of friends and remain there for 10-30 minutes, participating minimally.
With your partner, enter into conversation with 1 or 2 friends for 5 minutes.
With your partner, talk with 2-4 people for 5-10 minutes.
Talk with 1-3 friends in a group alone.
With your partner, talk with a less familiar person or a total stranger for 1-5 minutes.
Talk with some less than familiar people alone for 5-10 minutes (can be people you see every day around you, but aren't acquainted with you personally).
Enter a larger group of people with your partner and talk with them for 5-15 minutes.
Enter a larger group of people without your partner and talk with them for 10-30 minutes (can be a group meeting, group therapy, a church group, a community college seminar, etc.).
Enter a larger group of people without your partner and give a short presentation on some topic on which you have some expertise.
Going to a Restaurant Alone
With your partner, drive around the outside of the restaurant.
With your partner, sit in the restaurant parking lot for 1-5 minutes.

Enter the restaurant alone, select a table away from the door, and order a small meal; wait for it and eat it.
Enter a larger restaurant, select a table away from the door, order a small meal, wait for it, and eat it.
Driving with a Partner as a Passenger
Sit in a car for 1-5 minutes with your partner in the passenger seat.
Drive one block making smooth stops and starts.
Drive in a residential area, making right turns.
Drive in a residential area, making left turns.
Drive in the right lane of a minor road.

Drive on a major road, changing lanes, and making left and U turns.
Drive on the highway in the right lane for 1-2 exits.

When practicing this, first have you partner follow you in another car as you go through these steps. When you're comfortable enough, have your partner wait for you at your established destination and then follow you back home. After this, then practice completely by yourself.

@thatwolfnamednyla replied to THIS POST:
Maybe she even overworks herself trying to help others, trying to get her mind off her pain, because she feels responsible for others, and maybe even because she’s trying to make up for what she feels are her failures (not being able to save her husband and son, her son living for 60 years without her and becoming the leader of the Institute, not being strong enough to handle this pain, etc)
an interesting concept but the only time Liana really overworks herself is the time right after she leaves the vault (and before she finds out the truth), but that’s bc she’s struggling with insomnia as a symptom of her PTSD and her brain won’t shut up long enough for her to actually sleep.  and potentially bc having something to actively distract her from her trauma could help prevent her dissociation from fully triggering.
anyway, this might be the only time in her life where Liana doesn’t feel responsible for the deaths of her loved ones, bc for once she realizes and understands her absolute lack of control and choice in the events.  hence her anger at Virgil for acting like the Institute was innocent in its crimes against her.  as if she’s the only guilty party in the equation and not the most innocent of all those involved.
her parting words to him are straight up “you can burn with them.”
