Chapter 2 | Sneaking Around The Palace
Tumblr media
"I'm bored!"
Medea deadpanned, "It's been ten minutes."
With the Warriors Three and Sif still looking for her, they both were confined to their little alcove for the time being. Much to her chagrin, because sometimes Loki was just a big baby.
"Entertain me." He playfully demanded.
She rolled her eyes, "What am I? The court jester?"
Loki grinned, "If I were to base it on looks alone~"
She picked up a rock and threw a rock at him, "Ow!"
Medea rolled her eyes; she had her work cut out for her, that's for sure.
"Entertain yourself." Loki huffed.
Picking up a stick, she began drawing little images in the dirt. It was a mixture of random things, there was the tree of Yggdrasil, a flower, a smiley face.
Currently though, she was drawing a caricature of Loki's face. Distorting his facial features was the most amusing thing. She began laughing at how ridiculously large she drew his forehead.
Loki, being the little imp he is, waltzed over to see what had gotten her so giddy and was disgusted by what he saw.
"What on Asgard is that?"
She turned to face him, "What does it look like, Lokes?"
He scrunched his nose up, "It looks like some sort of demon creature from Helheim."
Silently giggling she revealed what the image actually was.
He gaped, "I do not look like that!"
She giggled, "But you do, my Prince."
He pouted, "You're a terrible friend."
She playfully gasped, "I'm the best friend anyone could possibly have in the nine."
Tumblr media
"I'm bored!"
Medea had about had it with Loki at this point. In the whole two hours they had been stuck in this alcove, he had said that one statement 137 times...and she wasn't exaggerating.
"If you say that sentence one more time, so help me Frigga, you won't have the epithet silver tongue anymore."
He mischievously grinned, "I'd like to see you try, Darling."
With that, she jumped up and ran at him. Loki blanched, quickly realising what he had started, and began to run away.
So, the chase began.
Loki laughed, "You'll never catch me with those little legs, Love."
"I wouldn't be so sure about that." Her sudden appearance in front of him made him yelp.
Catching his breath, "I should've never taught you how to teleport."
She smiled gleefully, "No, you shouldn't have."
And with that, she proceeded to tackle the God, earning a victorious groan.
"Was that necessary?"
Medea chortled, "Of course it was."
Sitting on his chest she looked at the garden walls surrounding them.
"But I suppose if you are as bored as you claim, we could sneak around the palace."
He smiled, "That sounds amazing, Darling."
Tumblr media
Sneaking into the palace was no feat for the both of them, as they knew the place like the backs of their hands.
What was tricky, though, was figuring out where the blasted Warriors Three and Sif wouldn't be.
"I don't think they'd be in the library. I don't even know if they know how to read."
Loki rolled his eyes, "So, they wouldn't be looking for you at the one place that you frequent daily?"
She shrugged, "I don't know if they're smart enough to put two and two together."
Loki laughed, "Sadly, I think that the library is off limits for today. Where else could we go?"
She smiled, "What if we go where they aren't expecting us to go?"
"I like the way you think, Darling."
Seated in what she had dubbed the Moron's Lair, both Medea and Loki were sipping on some of the finest mead known in all of Asgard.
"...and then, I stabbed him again!" Both gods laughed. Reminiscing on the tales of old was always a favourite for them both.
"Sometimes I feel bad for Thor, having to live with you as a sibling."
Loki holds back a fake gasp of offence, "I am angelic."
Rolling her eyes she lets out a little giggle, "The day you become angelic is the day Surtur causes Ragnarok."
"How dare you-"
His argument was cut off by a woman's--sounding eerily similar to Volstagg--screaming, "Where could she possibly be?"
Fandral sighed, "I'm inclined to give up. Being a female doesn't seem so bad."
Sif growled, "Speak for yourselves, I do not wish to be in this male form any longer."
Holding back their laughter, the mischievous gods decided to show themselves.
"I didn't know I was that hard to find."
Her unexpected dialogue caused the warriors to jump. Medea smiled, startling the four of them never gets old.
"You! You mischievous wench!" Fandral exclaimed.
Medea pouted, "Oh, your words hurt me so, Fandral."
Hogun stepped in before Fandral could continue to ruin their chances. "We don't have to fight; just change us back to our original forms."
"Let me think about it" About ten seconds were taken to think it over, "Yeah, I don't think so."
Just as the warriors began to charge, Loki took Medea's hand and teleported them both.
...and ending up at the bakery wasn't a surprise.
"How make cakes do you think we can steal before Yrva notices this time?"
You giggled, "The record is 23, right?"
Loki nodded his head. "Then this time I say 24!"
And with that, the trickster gods quietly entered the bakery. Tiptoeing because their lives very well may depend on it if they get caught, they carefully lowered themselves to the floor behind the counter.
A variety of weird hand gestures were made signalling some sort of plan, whether it would work or not was yet to be seen. Yrva was quickly getting used to the sneaking and stealing that occurred in her bakery, so they had to be stealthy.
Subtly raising her hand up, Medea managed to grab a singular red velvet cupcake.
"Yes!" She whisper-yelled.
She stuck her tongue out at Loki, "I got the red velvet one!"
Loki rolled his eyes and reached up to grab a cake, "You got the red velvet, but I got-"
He stopped talking when something grabbed his hand.
Both their eyes widened when they heard a voice, "By all means, your highness, which cake did you get?"
The two gods had never left the bakery as quickly as they did.
Yrva smiled and rolled her eyes, "Troublemakers."

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pent-up days bled into lonely nights. You retreated into your room, save for mission briefings and assignments that Fury would send you too.
Your interactions with Loki had been civil. Not a word was spoken between you two that didn’t involve other people or the task at hand. And when you found yourself in each other’s company, alone, you would just leave the room.
What you didn’t see were the glances and the stares in your direction. Not Loki’s, but the team’s.
“They must’ve fucked,” Bucky whispered.
“Absolutely, they did,” Natasha confirmed.
“How do you know?” Steve asked. “You can’t know that.” The three of them were watching through the glass wall of the conference room. You were showing the new recruit, Wanda, around the common areas and Loki was watching you through side glances and narrowed eyes.
“Do you remember how he acted during poker night?” Bucky asked.
“Ya, he was a real piece of work. I thought we were gonna have to call HR or something the way he was coming on to her,” Steve spurned.
“Ya, and now…that stopped. He got over his infatuation.” Bucky observed.
“Or he wasn’t enough to satisfy her.” Natasha counteroffered. Both men looked at her quizzically. “I mean come on. Not once had she looked in his direction. She’s over him. But he hasn’t been able to keep his eyes off her!” Natasha said proudly of you. Neither Steve nor Bucky could argue with her assessment.
Tumblr media
You had just walked into your room when a loud knock came on your door. “Come in” you yelled across your apartment.
“Hey,” Nat said, walking in and sitting on your duvet. She eyed you up and down looking at your blouse and pencil skirt. “Did you just have a meeting?”
“Ya, with Fury.” You said, mid unbutton.
“Don’t get undressed yet. The rest of the team is on a mission again tonight. So, we thought we’d have a little movie night to welcome Wanda.”
“Oh, that’s nice. I think she would love that. I’m down,” you said excitedly.
“Great! Same crew as poker night.” Nat said getting up to leave.
“On second thought…”
“What?! What is it?” Nat asked running through a list of possible scenarios and conclusions in her head. “Oh my God, is it because of Laufeyson?”
“WHAT?! No! Why would you say that? Pfft…of course not!” You laughed. “Laufeyson? Why would I care? I don’t- I don’t care,” you prattled.
“You guys slept together, didn’t you?” She smirked, wanting confirmation of her earlier theory. You stayed quiet. Just staring at her, not knowing how to answer her question. It wasn’t like you were ashamed of it. It was just that it ended on a very sour note. “Your face says it all. Tell me everything!”
You sat there, telling her about the amazing night you had weeks ago. How you brazenly went to his room that night of the poker game and had your own game. But then you also told her about the following morning and how neither of you have really talked about it since.
“You like him, don’t you?” she asked with a Cheshire grin. “You really like him!” You groaned and flopped yourself on the bed, hiding underneath your pillows. “I honestly don’t see the problem. The man was packed! And if you’ve managed to ride it and leave it. More power to you.”
“Natasha!”
“What?! I remember the poker game. I remember him stripping!” she laughed as you rolled your eyes.
“How could I forget? He made a show about it in front of me when he could’ve easily just magicked his clothes off!”
“Look. Just come. Prove to him that you don’t care what he said to you. That it was a game for you too and nothing more. Right?”
“Right…” you agreed hesitantly.
You followed Nat down the hallway, praying to any powers-that-be that Loki wouldn’t show up. Wanda bound up to the two of you and she blocked your view of the common area. She was very excited about the movie, thanking Steve for letting her choose it. When she moved to sit, was when your eyes landed on the recliner across from you. Decked out in a fitted white shirt and loose black denim, sat Loki, with his arms crossed and legs open as if in invitation.
You sat on the couch to the other side of him, facing the other direction, pretending to be interested in the projector Bucky was trying to work out. Bucky smacked it a few times till the light flickered momentarily and then went black again.
“Why is this not working?!” Bucky raised his arm to hit it again before you and Vision stopped him.
“You know, I think we should play a little game to take our mind off things while those two try to fix the monitor,” suggested Natasha. “A little game of Truth or Dare, perhaps?” The game got your attention and you looked directly at the redhead, affixing your death stare to her pouty lips.
What are you up to? You mouthed to her. She ignored you completely and turned around. “Ooh, can I go first? I love this game!” Wanda asked bouncing excitedly. “I’ll start with Steve!”
“Awe why do you have to start with me?” He asked petulantly.
“Cuz you’re our fearless leader. So lead!” Natasha pushed. Steve only rolled his eyes.
“Truth or dare?” Wanda asked.
Steve lowered his head down in defeat, smiling, trying to be a good sport. “Dare,” he said to the resounding oohs and aahs from the group.
“I dare you to demonstrate the best kiss you’ve ever had.” Wanda smiled innocently at the heckles and jabs thrown in Steve’s direction. Although, you got the feeling that she was hiding more than she was letting on.
“What? Like in the air?” Steve proceeds to pucker his lips and kiss an imaginary person in front of him.
“No! OK, that’s… kind of gross!” Everyone laughed.
“How ‘bout on her!” Nat interrupted, pointing to you as she sat back and smiled, watching the whole thing play out.
Heat ran down your back as you looked at Steve. He gave you a boyish, heartwarming smile that almost took your breath away. You watched as he got up and made his way over to you. Did everything just go in slow motion? He lifted your chin to face him. “May I?” he asked so sweetly, and you nodded in response. With bright blue eyes shut, he leaned in and kissed you.
It was soft at first. He gently sucked on your upper lip and splayed his hands open, cupping your cheek. You had missed this. The closeness. The intimacy.
You missed him!
You started thinking about Loki and the few erotically charged moments you spent with him. You moaned at Steve’s touch, imagining it was Loki you were kissing. Steve took that as a sign to tilt his head and his tongue dove in further. It slid across yours, sending a tingling sensation down to your core.
Natasha watched Loki. As Loki watched you. The scowl on his face getting deeper and deeper as you clung to Steve tighter and tighter. Steve pulled away slowly, as he breathed out. You didn’t realize you were holding tight to his lapels, on your tippy toes, keeping him close to you.
“Ok. My turn!” Steve smiled and turned around abruptly as if he hadn’t given you one memorable kiss. You stood there stunned into place, slowly turning to face away from Loki. Steve looked at Natasha to exact his revenge. “Natasha. Truth or dare?”
“Truth.” She answered confidently.
“Have you ever fantasized about anyone in this room, intimately?”
“Yes.” She answered and Bucky’s ears picked up, looking at the deadly assassin through his side eyes.
“Who?!” Steve asked aloud.
“Fixed!” Bucky yelled as the monitor came to life.
“One more before the movie starts.” Nat turned to you and asked you with wild eyes and a mischievous grin. “Truth or dare?”
You took a deep breath and sighed, “Dare.” Nat’s grin got even wider as she walked up to you and whispered her dare in your ear.
“Oh come on! We all want to hear it!” Wanda said. Your eyes turned wide and the expression on your face dropped when Natasha pulled away.
“Go on. You have to do it! You chose dare.” She goaded you. You narrowed your eyes at her as you started making your way over to Loki on his lone recliner. His arms were still folded, and his legs were still open.
The confusion on his face was telling. It got even more concerned when you turned around and sat directly on his lap. Loki held his arms in the air, unsure of what to do or where to put them. “Excuse me?!” he finally said.
The room looked at both of you, chuckling and awe-faced. Nat looked like she had won a match that you were unwittingly a player in.
“Just go with it, okay?” you whispered to Loki.
“Go with what? Why are you sitting on my lap?” Loki bellowed.
“Shh! The movie is starting,” Natasha scolded the both of you, turning around with a self-satisfying grin. The audacity! The fucking nerve of this woman! You were going to pay her back somehow. You didn’t know where or how, but one day! Best friend be damned! Maybe you’ll reveal who she’s been having fantasies about. Maybe you’ll hide all her guns. Yeah! And her stun bracers too!
Loki placed his hands on the armrest. He was euphoric at the turn of events. But highly confused as to what the dare was to make you sit on his lap. How long will he have? Are you going to sit here for the entire movie? Can he touch you? Norns how he longed to touch you! It’s been weeks since that awful morning. And every time he tried to talk to you, you would leave the room. Or there were more pressing matters at hand.
His pride and confidence left him the morning you left his bed. He thought he made it very clear how in love with you he was. But you either didn’t believe him or you were just playing a game with him.
He didn’t know how to approach you anymore. But one thing is for certain, if you keep moving the way you were, he would have to excuse himself immediately.
“Stop moving!” he ordered.
“I can’t help it. You’re not exactly comfortable to sit on.” You whisper-growled back at him.
“That’s not what it looked like a couple weeks back. I seem to recall you enjoyed sitting on my lap.” Without warning, Loki grabbed your waist and pulled you closer to his frame. Seating you right in between his open legs. Right on the cushion of the seat. “Better?” he asked.
“Yes,” you said begrudgingly. “Thank you.”
“Always a pleasure, darling.”
Tumblr media
The first half hour of the movie was hard to follow. Every breath Loki would take, any small movement he would make, you felt it right behind you. You sat perfectly stiff. Your back, like a ruler, not wanting to give in to his warmth and comfort.
As the movie progressed, you tried to make the best of your awkward situation. The team had settled and forgotten about the two of you in the back of the room. You yourself got lost in the dramatic plot of the movie. All too soon, your arms grew tired. You relaxed them onto the armrest, forgetting that they were already occupied by Loki’s. You tried to relax them to your sides but were met with his thighs on either side of you.
Loki didn’t seem fazed by any of it. His breathing was even. His heartbeat was steady as a drum, albeit thumping loudly and hard behind you. The only tell he gave away was the movement of his head next to yours. His quick inhale of breath as he surreptitiously smelled the perfume of your hair.
How long has it been? Days? Weeks? A lifetime, since you’ve felt his touch. And here you are now, sitting on his lap, hoping that the growing hardness you felt behind you is what you think it is and not just his belt buckle.
“Truth or dare, darling?” Loki whispered in your ear, breaking his resolve.
“Loki, I’m tired of these games. I don’t-”
“Truth? Or dare?” he insisted. You gave out a big sigh and rolled your eyes, knowing he could see your expression. You looked around at your team, engrossed in the movie.
“They can’t hear us as long as you whisper,” Loki said answering your unspoken question.
“Truth.” You answered him.
“Really?” he asked surprised.
“Well, a dare got me into this mess,” you reasoned.
“What was Natasha’s dare?” Of all the things he could’ve asked you. You didn’t think he would be too curious, but it was also the one answer that would leave you too vulnerable.
“She dared me to-”
“Sit on my lap?”
“No!” A beat was taken before you had the courage to say what you needed to.
“What did she say, verbatim?”
“Her exact words were…to sit with the person I had feelings for…for the entire movie,” you whispered.
Heat crawled up your spine. You can feel your embarrassment radiate through your clothes and add to the heat that Loki was giving off. You felt so flushed and nervous that you started rambling. “And you had taken up the entire space with your long legs. Clearly, there was nowhere else for me to sit but your lap. I mean honestly. It was almost as if you didn’t want anyone sitting next to you. What’s the point in coming to these group exercises if you don’t intend to be amiable? I-”
“Shh,” Loki said putting his finger to your lips. “Keep your voice down, darling. Or else my enchantment will fail.” You looked around at your teammates who were still engrossed in the movie.
He pulled you closer to the chair, flushed against his firm chest. His large hand cradled your stomach while his other fingers continued to explore your lips. They tickled you as he ran them gingerly, tracing your cupid’s bow down to the soft pout of your bottom lip. He kept his stare at your mouth, lost in thought.
“Dare me, darling.” He whispered.
“That’s not how the game works, Loki,” you smiled.
“Dare me to kiss you. Please.” His plea took you by surprise. Desire wrapped around the two of you. Squeezing the air from both your lungs, leaving you wanting.
Breathlessly you said, “I dare you to kiss me Lo-” You hadn’t finished your sentence before his lips hungrily descended on yours. His hand cupped your cheek and kept your head to his. Your hands intertwined with his and he held on to you tighter.
Loki’s kiss was deep and demanding. There was a sense of urgency to it as if he was running out of time and he had yet to get his fill of you. He pulled away briefly to breathe but his appetite only grew. He needed to kiss you. He needed to touch you. Everywhere.
With his eyes closed, his lips found your neck and artfully marked your skin. His hands flew to the buttons of your shirt, opening them one by one as you laid your head back onto his shoulders.  You gave in to him. Into his touch. His hands reached inside and cupped your breast, making you moan.
A well-timed explosion happened in the movie that you and Loki had already disregarded. It pulled your attention away from his yearning, giving you logic long enough to remember where you were.
“Loki…” you whimpered. He ignored your cries and was lost in his own spiral. “Loki I…I need you. But not here. Not in front of everyone.”
“Why not in front of everyone? That way Rogers knows what a proper kiss looks like,” he growled. His jealousy made you titter. “Let me wipe that moment out of your memories. Let me replace it with my lips.” He grabbed your chin and kissed you again with no regard for keeping it quiet. His entire body shook with emotion. Longing, jealousy, dominance.
“I was thinking of you,” you admitted panting onto his lips. “I was imagining I was kissing you.”
Loki stared into your eyes as he let that information swirl in his thoughts. His growing smile sent shivers throughout your body. You felt carnal pleasure in knowing you had pleased him somehow.
His voice changed. His eyes had grown darker. He inhaled through his teeth as he praised you, “That’s my girl,” he snarled. His hands continued to roam underneath your blouse. His fingers pinched your aching nipples through the lace of your bra, sending you jolts of pleasure down to your already heated sex. “Are you going to continue being a good girl for me?”
You nodded devotedly. “Good,” Loki growled, fighting to keep his desire at bay. “I want you to go to my room and wait for me on my bed. Can you do that for me, pet?”
You moaned when he nipped your jaw gently waiting for you to answer. You slowly got up, feeling the rush of your excitement pool down into your panties. You walked slowly, trying not to get the attention of the others, as you snuck behind the chair where Loki was sitting.
“Oh and pet…” he whispered grabbing your hand gently. “…Don’t think of running away to make me chase you like last time. Unless,” spreader bar “You’d like to be cuffed and barred again.” He smiled, daring you.

Slight mob!Loki x female reader
18+ | contains smut
Tumblr media
“Loki, when are you coming back to bed?” You asked, pouting as you fastened your short silk robe, stepping into Loki’s study.
“I’m just sorting through a few things dearest, soon.” Loki answered, glancing up at you before doing a double take, noticing your attire.
“Hi Thor.” You smiled, greeting Loki’s brother.
“Y/n.” He replied, swallowing thickly before his eyes quickly ran up your exposed legs.
“Are these things anything I can help with?” You offered.
“Come here.” Loki gestured, tapping his knee. Walking further into the room, you made your way to Loki, sitting on his lap as you looked down at the papers sprawled out over the desk. “The aim is to go from here” Loki began, placing his finger on a map “to here unnoticed.” He finished, pointing to the final destination.
“Hmm, unnoticed?” You hummed, wracking your brain.
“Yeah.” He nodded, kissing your neck.
“Dress as delivery men and use a delivery truck.” You suggested.
“That’s too obvious, sweet.” Loki answered.
“Then garbage men then, no one is going to check a garbage truck.” You shrugged.
“And where would we get this garbage truck?” Thor queried, you and Loki both glancing up at him.
“Loki has contacts everywhere.”
“Yes brother,” Loki smirked, “I’ve got contacts everywhere.”
“So that’s sorted then” you clapped, looking back at Loki as he wrapped his arm tighter around you “can we go back to bed now?”
“I’m afraid there’s still something else.” Loki sighed.
“Fine” you huffed, breaking out of Loki’s grip as you stood “I guess I’m going to have to just take care of myself then.” You announced, walking out of the room, both sets of Odinson eyes on you as you did so. “Goodnight Thor.” You spoke, touching his arm as you passed him.
Watching you for a few moments, Loki couldn’t help but stand up, following after you.
“This won’t take a minute” Loki lied, speaking to Thor “sit down, make yourself at home.” He called, leaving the room. Heading up the stairs, Loki was quick to catch up with you, leaving you yelping as he wrapped his arms around you from behind, practically carrying you to the bedroom.
“I said I’d be with you in a moment, couldn’t you have just given me that?” Loki spoke firmly.
“No.” You giggled.
“Right, bend over that bed.” He ordered.
You were quick to make your way to the bed, standing at the end of it before leaning over it, balancing on your forearms. Loki stood behind you, one arm snaking around your body to undo your robe. The thin material slipped off of your body, leaving you bare for Loki as he ran two of his fingers through your folds.
“Already so wet.” He noted lowly, fingers circling your clit slowly.
“I was getting ready for you.” You grinned.
“Yeah?” He smiled coyly.
“Mhmm.” You hummed.
“Good girl, getting it nice and wet for daddy.” Loki praised, the sound of his belt unbuckling ringing in your ear before you felt him pressing his soft, thick member against you. “What do you want me to do?” He questioned, gripping his length and gently moving it through your slick folds.
“You know what I want you to do.” You answered, impatiently moving your hips backwards.
“Say it” Loki commanded, pressing the tip of his length to your entrance “say it.” He uttered.
“I want you to fuck me.” You almost whined.
“That’s a good girl.” He smirked, pressing himself into you.
“Lokii.” You mewled as he buried himself inside of you, every inch of him filling you before he pulled out. “Fuck.” You moaned as he gripped your hips tightly, thrusting inside of you again, harder this time, more purposefully.
“Such a tight little thing.” He lauded, one of his hands lifting and landing on your ass hard as you moaned louder.
“Fuckk Lokii.” You gasped, his balls hitting your clit as he continued thrusting in and out of you.
“Shh, we have a guest, remember.” He chuckled darkly.
“Lokii.” You panted, Loki hitting that perfect soft spot with each calculated stroke. “Feels so good.” You moaned lewdly as he grabbed your hand, guiding it to your clit prompting you to rub it.
“Quiet.” He instructed, loosening his tie before practically shoving it into your mouth in the hopes of silencing you but knowing it’d just arouse you further. You humored him, gagging on it as he continued fucking you. Your face was almost buried into the bed as you tried to remain balanced on one of your forearms.
Downstairs, Thor repositioned himself, crossing his legs as he heard what sounded like Loki spanking you. He tried to busy himself looking through the map on the table but it was useless.
“Are you going to be a dear and cum for me so I can continue discussing business? Hmm?” Loki asked, thrusts quickening. Unable to reply, you clenched your walls around him. “Good girl.” He smiled before pounding into you, unable to conceal his own groaning. Feeling your walls thrumming around him, Loki tore the tie out of your mouth.
“Fuck!” You exclaimed, pleasure consuming you “m’ cumming.”
“Love, you’re soaking me.” Loki spoke, clearly amused as he slowed his pace, guiding you through your high.
“I-I’ll clean you up.”
“And how are you going to do that?” He questioned, still inside you. Reaching behind you, you tried to push him backwards. Realising what you were doing, Loki pulled out of you. Turning around to face him, you went onto your knees before gripping his hard, length, moist from your arousal. You moved your hand up and down it, Loki relaxing against your touch as you massaged his sensitive member. Opening your mouth, you guided him inside it, flicking the tip with your tongue as it entered. Hands on his hips, Loki closed his eyes as you gagged on his cock, hollowing your cheeks around it as you sucked on it. Unable to control himself, his hips involuntarily thrusted forwards, chasing your mouth as you circled the tip with your tongue.
“Are you going to let me cum on those pretty tits?” Loki cooed, feeling his orgasm approaching. Nodding, you replaced your mouth with your hand, fisting him to completion before he came, coating your breasts with his warm seed.
“My good good girl.” He praised, pulling you into a long kiss as if he just wanted to taste himself against you. “Go and grab me some clean trousers.” He spoke, breaking the kiss and slapping your ass as you turned around towards the wardrobe. “Thank you.” He added, taking his current ones off before putting the clean ones on. “Now, I’m going back downstairs and I’ll be back once I’m finished. You stay up here.”
“And what would you do if I came downstairs?” You questioned teasingly.
“I’d have to punish you.” He smirked.
“Don’t threaten me with a good time.” You giggled.
“Right, where were we?” Loki spoke, entering his study again.
“I—um—I need to leave.” Thor stuttered, almost sprinting out of the room.

Loki's Silent Sentry (Part 4)
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3
Pairing: Loki x female reader (ofc)
Summary: You are not just a soldier in Asgard's Royal Army, you are Lieutenant Y/L/N, Prince Loki's personal guard, his sentry and you are not supposed to fall in love with him. If you followed your training properly, you should never have even spoken to him. As a sentry, you are expected to remain silent and invisible as you shadow your appointed member of the royal family or member of the court protectively throughout their daily tasks.
Rumors (that happen to be true) begin to circulate through the palace that you serve the younger prince of Asgard both outside and inside his chambers. There is little you can do once word of your off duty activities spread through every maid, cook, gardener and seamstress in the palace. You soon find even the soldiers in your own company are now questioning how exactly you had come to earn your seemingly quick rise to lieutenant.
As the annual Winter Solstice Ball approaches, you come to the heartbreaking realization that your relationship with Loki must come to an end if you are both to fulfill your duties.
Warnings: Angst, arguing, Thor trying to be a better brother, Odin being a terrible father... I lied about the fluff... it's not in this part lol but it's coming I swear 💚 I know this part is short but it was getting way too long so I keep breaking it up
Tumblr media
"No! He can't do this," you think angrily. Your mind is spinning and your heart races. How could he take this away from his own son.
"You dare to tell me what I can and can not do!?" the king asks in a booming voice and you suddenly freeze.
You look at Loki, his eyes filled with fear and realize you didn't think that, you said it out loud. Odin slowly takes a step forward and you fight the urge to turn and run.
The only sounds you can hear in the crowded room are Odin's heavy footsteps as he decends the stairs and the pounding of your heart. Loki slips his hand free from yours as his father comes closer, he moves to stand in front of you protectively. It does nothing to stop the king, however, his eyes are fixed on you.
The king glares at you and says, "This does not concern you."
You don't know what gives you the strength or courage but you find yourself taking a step forward so you are next to Loki. He glances at you and you can tell he is obviously worried but you stand tall in front of the king and the whole council. You take Loki's hand again and answer Odin, "This concerns me because your ruling effects Loki's future and I care about him, unlike you or would seem."
Loki pulls you closer to him and further from his father but neither of you back away from the king.
"It is now becoming even clearer why we need to update the marriage law," Odin states, looking at the members of the council. He looks directly at Loki, "The prince does not understand his duty to this kingdom and that marriage is not to be taken lightly." Then he looks at you, "And you do not know your place."
"My place is with your son," you tell him.
"And my place is with Y/N," Loki adds in agreement.
A council member to your right says, "Prince Loki, you may think your place is with this soldier but you have a responsibility to follow the king's orders, as do we all."
You feel your chest tighten, you already know the answer to that question. You had spent many nights wondering if you were good enough for Loki.
"Is this really about my obligations as a prince?" he asks the council, "Or do you simply not think Y/N is worthy of my hand in marriage?"
"Lieutenant is barely an officer," an older woman says.
"If we take into account her family's years of service and the ranks they reached, we can easily assume she will at least rise to major like her parents before her," a younger man counters.
"Not for many, many years," another man responds.
"The law only states that a soldier must be a captain, that's clearly an obtainable rank," a woman you barely recognize defends you.
"But she is not yet a captain," someone argues. The chatter and disagreements begin to mix together and become louder as each person fights to have their opinion heard.
You keep your hand in Loki's, holding onto him to keep your bearings as you try to follow the numerous conversations. He squeezes your hand gently and you look up at him. He tries to give you a reassuring smile but you can clearly see he is as nervous as you are. None of this has gone the way he had planned and you are both terrified of what could happen.
"Enough of this!" Odin raises his voice, causing the room to go quiet in an instant. "I have made my decision."
"Father, please. Don't do this to us," Loki begs his father but the king seems unphased by how much he is hurting his son.
"Your highness-" you start but can't finish your thought.
"One more word from you..." he threatens and you become quiet, moving closer to Loki.
The queen moves forward, you had almost forgotten she was in the throne room as she sat quietly and observed the arguments. You and Loki both look at her with a mixture of hope and desperation. Is she going to overrule the king as she had when he wanted to send you away? Does she have a clever suggestion to keep you together? Is she going to agree with her husband? Your mind races as you wait for her to speak.
"I wish to hear what Lieutenant Y/L/N has to say," she says calmly.
Odin turns to look at his wife and something in his demeanor changes. You can't tell if he loves his wife but you can see he respects her enough to not challenge her in front of the council. He looks back at you and waves his hand slightly, "Very well, but these will be your final words in my presence."
You swallow hard and Loki squeezes your hand again to make sure you know you have his support.
"I love Asgard and I have dedicated my life to serving the crown and this kingdom," you begin, unsure of where you are going. "I admit, I am at a loss to discover that this means little to you. I have fought to protect the Bifrost, I have shed blood defending our outposts, I am willing to die in place of the royal family as a sworn sentry. Does this truly make me less worthy of marrying Loki than a woman who was born into one of the council families purly by chance?"
The members of the council begin to whisper again, discussing the question you posed but your attention turns to Loki. You keep your eyes locked on his and tell him, "I don't know what will happen but I need you to know that I will never stop loving you, even if they pull us apart."
"I will never let them take you from me, I promise," he says and you believe him with your whole heart.
Tumblr media
The queen nods when you look back towards her but she looks heartbroken for her son and you fear she won't interfere again.
"Now, let us put this nonsense behind us and-" the king begins.
"Wait," Thor interrupts him as gasps spread through the crowd. Now it is Thor who approaches the edge of the throne. Odin glares at his oldest son but says nothing, allowing him to continue.
"I think it would be wise to explain why you truly want to disregard the existing law," he says.
"I have made my opinion on the matter perfectly clear and above all else, it is simply outdated," Odin answers but you can tell the council members are not sure that is the whole truth.
"If you do not tell them," Thor threatens calmly, "I will."
"What are you talking about brother?" Loki asks, his voice full of confusion.
Before Thor can respond, Odin says, "You will do no such thing."
Thor pauses for a moment as if weighting the pros and cons of disobeying his father and you hold your breath while he decides. He avoids Odin's stare and looks at you and Loki. "Loki," he starts.
"Stop this now," Odin commands.
Thor doesn't stop, "We knew about this law, we have for years."
"What?" Loki takes a small step back in shock. "You knew and you said nothing? Even after you knew how I felt about Y/N?"
"Yes but there was nothing to be done," his brother explains. "Even if I had told you, you would still never be allowed to marry her."
"Why not? Why are we being punished?" Loki asks desperately looking from his brother to his father and back at Thor.
"You are not being punished, you are being used as a pawn," Thor says, looking down as if he is ashamed to admit the truth. The queen looks to Odin, her eyes full of questions. The council begins to whisper again as they attempt to figure out if anyone knows what Thor is referring to.
"A pawn," Loki repeats, his eyes unfocused as he stares at the floor. You hold him tightly, hoping to bring his attention back to you.
Tumblr media
"Everyone out!" Odin orders the council to clear the throne room but no one moves.
"What is Prince Thor saying?" one person asks. "A pawn in what game?" asks another. Dozens of questions fly through the air until Loki finally looks up again.
"Brother," he says and the room goes silent. "Please, tell me what you mean? That I am to be used?"
"I'm sorry Loki," he says and your heart pounds faster. "You can't marry Y/N, because you have been promised to another."

You continue to stand observing the stars from afar, glimmering luminously before your eyes. Asgard has just been destroyed due to the events of Ragnarok and the people have lost their home — for now. They were currently heading towards Midgard via a spaceship to take refuge there. Midgardians were one of the lesser intelligent species across the nine realms, but they could be very welcoming at times. Maybe they could build a new life over there…
Footsteps begin to advance towards you from behind, causing you to snap out of your thoughts and turn toward the disruption, only to spot the God of Mishcief approaching you.
A surprised yet secretly pleased expression forms on your face at the sight of Loki. You hadn’t had a proper conversation with him ever since your… fight. About him faking his death twice and impersonating Odin for years and posing to be king and betraying all of Asgard and especially you.
Yeah. A fight was one way to put it.
“Loki,” you breathe softly.
Loki connects his emerald eyes with yours, seeming to be holding something back. He was never one to hesitate, you knew that. He was always so outspoken — you’ve never seen him so rattled like this.
“I… I’m sorry, and I love you,” he mumbles in a soft tone, breaking the eye contact.
Your eyes quickly shoot up towards his, surprised with his sudden burst of affection. Before you could even gather up the words to speak up, he interupts you.
“You don’t have to say anything or even forgive me, but… I realize that I haven't been the best partner to you, and for that I am.. sorry. You have only ever been good to me, and," he stops himself to gently grab your hands and pull you closer. "You deserve so much more. I promise to you that I will do better. If you will let me.”
He sighs deeply, finally maintaining the eye contact and taking a step towards you.
“I’ve missed you since the moment you walked away from me, and I deeply regret letting you go so easily. That will never happen again — I promise.”
After all these years, you are finally hearing the words you’ve been longing to hear from Loki — and then some. You always thought it was a farfetched fantasy, but for once, it actually feels as though he was willing to change. That this time might be different.
You’ve already made the same mistake — twice — forgiving him then only for him to repeat the same mistake and somehow make it worse than how it was before. But, that’s the thing. Even after all his lies, all the betrayals you have endured because of him…
You never once regretted forgiving him.
“The Loki Odinson, God of Mischief, owning up to his past? My, where have I been this whole time?”
Loki playfully rolls his eyes. “Don’t flatter yourself, darling.”
A soft yet meaningful smile curves on your lips as you take a moment to process the last word that he said.
“You haven’t called me that since our fight.”
“And you haven’t looked at me with those eyes ever since I faked my death.”
“With what eyes?” You raise an oblivious eyebrow, fully knowing what he was talking about.
Loki softly shakes his head at your teasing before you let out a light chuckle once more. You gaze upon the long-haired frost giant, biting your inner cheek as you watch Loki being vulnerable to you for the first time.
"Loki," you call out in a soft tone, one gentle hand snaking up to his shoulder. "I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have let go of you so easily either. You were right — I was too quick to give up on us. But, never again. This time, we’ll try even harder to make things truly work. Agreed?”
A soft smile forms on his face — one that was sincere in a way that he never usually shows.
“Agreed.”
Before you could even react one more second, Loki cuts you off with an action that he only does once every blue moon. An action that neither of you can even recall when he last did it.
You feel gentle arms wrap you in a warm embrace. Being in his mere presence made you feel safe and at home — in a way that not even your physical home has ever made you feel. But being with him — reuniting with Loki once more — you knew, with the utmost confidence, that he was your true home. And there was no place you would rather be.

⊱ ─ ༓ ── ⋅•⋅⊰ ─  ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ∙ ⋅  ─ ⊱⋅•⋅ ── ༓ ─ ⊰
The silence in the cell was electrifyingly tense, and Loki wished he had something else to focus his attention on.
His jaw ached as he took another bite of the flavorless, perplexing bread that was both stale and damp at the same time. He should have been grateful for it and its distraction, despite the woman having offered it without even so much as looking at him. But it just reminded him of the year he’d spent with the Mad Titan: Wretched. Forsaken. Totally and completely hopeless.
Loki tried desperately not to think about it, but it was getting harder to fight as his exhaustion grew.
The woman sat across from him in the cell, her knees pulled to her chest and her expression blank. She’d said absolutely nothing after dismissing his question about Anathema the night prior, not even when the peculiar guards brought in their cruel attempt at a meal. She didn’t even flinch when they set the tray down in front of her, nor when the duo stared, cold and unmoving, presumably waiting for her to beg for her life like all the others…but she did wait until they were finally gone to pull the tray closer.
She had grabbed the chunk of bread first, and extended it towards him in the shadows like it was second-nature to her. As if it wasn’t ever an option that she wouldn’t share it, and despite the fact that they were in stark disagreement about their respective situations in this place.
He felt guilty for accepting the offering, but unfortunately, he felt like he had no other choice; his eyelids were growing heavier by the minute, his muscles were becoming weaker with each new day of disuse, and his nerves were perpetually fried with wary energy. He was constantly stifling another yawn, and was dangerously close to falling asleep, to having another nightmare again.
Loki didn’t know if he ever talked in his sleep, but he didn’t want to risk revealing any compromising information about himself or his past; the less anyone knew about him here, the better off they all were.
But other than the food she’d shared with him, there wasn’t much else for him to distract himself with. The woman wasn’t talking anymore, and her questions had faded away alongside the hope she may have once had about escaping. That left Loki to alone deal with his questions about her, and their inscrutable answers.
The problem with that, however, was that his mind was nothing but a tangled mess; a rat’s nest, made up of lies and false memories, the betrayals of the life he’d left behind, and all the lives that never were. Before him lay a scattering of dots, all seemingly unrelated and centered around a woman who claimed she didn’t know what they wanted with her, and he couldn’t seem to make heads or tails of any of it.
Loki used to pride himself on his ability to see the bigger picture, especially on a galactic scale. But he had come here to hide and to wallow, to purposely let his mind atrophy into a cobweb of nothingness, because that was easier than continue trying, and failing, to be happy. He felt comfortable doing that, and letting this become his legacy, because he hadn’t ever expected a riddle to fall into his lap again. He hadn’t ever expected her.
As Loki swallowed the last of the bread, he forced himself to look at her again. She was still huddled against the wall, illuminated by the dim lantern light from the hallway and shivering in the cold dungeon like a scared little child. He was flabbergasted that she was still here, that they’d bothered bringing her back after being caught during an escape attempt. And he couldn’t help but hate himself, because the old Loki could have figured out why that was a very long time ago.
Next to her, the bowl of porridge sat on the floor, mostly untouched and definitely not enjoyed. Her expression was sullen as she stared off into the distance, and her limbs were folded around herself as she retreated deeper inward. It almost made him feel…something.
Of what exactly, Loki wasn’t quite sure; the feeling was old and familiar, something that was long lost while never really being understood in the first place. He told himself that the feeling was irrelevant, because it was just the mystery he found equal parts infuriating and intriguing. He just needed a bit more time than usual to settle the question marks, and then he could finally return to the blissful void of apathy.
And maybe she wasn’t lying when she claimed to not know who Anathema was, but he didn’t believe for a moment that she had no idea why the guards were so interested in her. Either she had something of theirs, or she knew some mysterious piece of information they didn’t yet - but they were obviously willing to play the long game in order to acquire it, and that couldn’t have been for nothing.
Perhaps it had something to do with the gem dangling from her necklace. Loki had seen her touching it, frequently and absentmindedly, running her slender fingers over the deep blue stone during stressed and quiet moments like now. Clearly it meant a lot to her; someone who loved her had given it to her. Someone she loved back, someone she probably missed dearly…
As he started to wonder if anyone was out there looking for her, Loki realized he was staring and quickly averted his eyes. They landed once again upon the bowl of uneaten porridge next to her, and a new form of discomfort wove itself between the muscles of his shoulders and neck. It wrapped around his nerve-endings, stinging the open and frayed tendrils that had been worn bare from the pain of still being alive.
He was quite vulnerable existing like this, even though he knew she couldn’t see him hiding in the shadows. That she didn’t know what he was thinking, or where he was looking. That she was unaware of the fleeting relief that poured into his veins when she was brought back to the cell alive, or his shame at feeling anything that had immediately replaced it.
Loki had been flippant when she was initially brought in here. He was angry the first time she tried to share a meal with him. And then he was conflicted, at best, when she was dragged back in the second time. This paltry range of emotions was far more than he was previously used to; he felt like he was drowning in it, like it was slowly collapsing his airways and squeezing out every last ounce of oxygen from his lungs.
Because there was only one person on this planet who knew his name. A single individual, throughout all of space and time, knew where he was. She was the sole witness to his current existence, and he’d never felt more uncomfortable or on display than here and now. She had met him at his worst, in his ultimate moment of triumph when he’d finally been able to remove himself from any and all equations, from every problem that ever needed solving, and he absolutely hated that.
Loki thought he’d finally accounted for everything when he had stepped through the Time Door and into this dungeon. He thought he’d finally fixed the issue, himself, for literally everyone - and then this tiny little variable had shown up so unexpectedly to completely ruin it for him.
He should have been angrier about it. He should have been furious and seething and shaking with rage over this egregious betrayal of the universe. Being alone had been the whole point, keeping everyone safe from him had been his only intention, seeking protection from the pain of both betrayal and being betrayed was all that Loki had left. Why wasn’t he allowed that meager peace of mind?
Damnation clung to Loki like a frightened child clung to his mother’s skirts, trembling in the dark and begging for acknowledgement of its traumatized state. It lurked around every corner and it haunted every shadow, constantly weeping and whimpering and howling out its anguish to cruel and uncaring souls. It was always there, lingering in the corner of his eye, reminding him of just how helpless and useless he was. That he should just give up. That he should just end it already.
But sometimes, the damnation would transform into something far more sinister, into the tall, skulking form of a cerulean demon. Hanging over his shoulder and digging its claws into his neck, the demon would spit cruel maledictions into his ear. Didn’t Loki know that everyone around him was already doomed? Wouldn’t it be kinder to just kill them now, rather than waiting for him to ruin their life and then cruelly and inevitably take it from them?
Hiding in the dungeon was the only reasonable compromise between the frightened child and the viscous demon warring in his mind. If only he had stuck with that plan, if only he hadn’t revealed that someone else was alive in the cell with her, then maybe he wouldn’t be in this mess right now.
Regret, his oldest and only friend, wouldn’t be blaring its horn and sounding the alarm bells and crying out for solace. So why did it bother him so much now that she wasn’t eating?
Loki shifted uncomfortably on the stone floor, weighing the options in his mind. The regret of initially engaging with this woman didn’t mean he couldn’t change tactics; and if she wasn’t eating, then it wouldn’t be too much longer until he was on his own again. That had been his initial plan, and there was no reason he couldn’t return to that now. Wasn’t being alone all he ever wanted?
“You should finish your meal. There’s no telling how long it’ll be before they bring another…” The words felt like acid on Loki’s tongue, dripping down his throat to eat away at his insides. He hoped they had come out as bluntly as he’d intended, but in reality, it just sounded like something his mother would have said.
This time, the woman didn’t shudder when he finally broke the tense silence. She didn’t even react at all, other than to sigh heavily and respond in a low and flattened tone. “What’s the point…?”
“Well, clearly they’d prefer you to be alive, for whatever reason…” Loki’s jaw tensed as he paused, struggling to understand why he was even bothering. “Even if they bring food on an irregular basis, it’s still more than anyone else gets…”
“Maybe the only reason they want me alive is so they can continue mocking and hurting me.”
That was a more difficult point to contend with; perhaps the guards had just grown weary of the simple and mundane murders, and they’d decided to go with something more entertaining this time. What if there wasn’t a more complicated explanation for the guards' motivations? What if he was searching for logic that didn’t even exist?
Loki stifled another yawn as he leaned back against the stone wall, raking his fingers through tangled curls that were just as chaotic as his thoughts. There had to be something he was missing while attempting to put this puzzle together. “So what did the guards say when they caught you escaping?”
The woman let out a heavy exhale, and her tone shifted into a more sarcastic tone. “Oh, normal things like what are you doing out of your cell?, and no one’s coming to rescue you. Typical kidnapper things, you know…”
Loki couldn’t help but roll his eyes at her nonchalant answers, but what else was he expecting? He was beginning to wonder if it was even worth putting this much effort into avoiding sleep. Nothing else in his life prior to meeting her had been easy, so why was he expecting this to go smoothly?
“Actually, the guard did say something strange before knocking me out…” The woman trailed off, pausing as she furrowed her brow.
Loki cleared his throat as he looked towards her again. “Strange how?”
“Maxine - or Nulan, whichever one it was…They caught me upstairs in their private quarters. Just before attacking me, they said what is gone…may never return.” The woman pulled her lower lip between her teeth as she recalled the memory. “I’ve never heard it before, and I have no idea what it means…”
What is gone…may never return. Loki turned the phrase backward and forward in his mind, trying to find its place in this absolutely confounding puzzle. But he’d never heard anyone say anything even remotely close to it, so there was nowhere for it to go. The phrase’s sentiment, however, he understood perfectly well.
“It was probably just a threat, or a taunt…” she continued with a dismissive shake of her head. “They were just mocking me, for losing everything…”
“Or it’s a prayer. A desperate request, for some kind of reprieve…” Loki murmured in reply. He didn’t want to think about whether anyone had ever hoped for the same thing after he’d finally walked away, but he was positive that they had. And he hadn’t meant for his interpretation to sound so melancholy, but as his gaze caught the woman’s matching expression, he could feel her understanding of his meaning. Loki hated that.
She must have sensed that as well, because she quickly forced a false smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “No…surely they must have been talking about me losing my boots.”
Her smile faded just as quickly as it had appeared, shifting into a grimace as a violent shiver shuddered over the limbs she struggled to pull close enough. She breathed out a heavy sigh and lowered her forehead to her knees with another tremble, and for once, Loki was grateful for the Jotun physiology keeping him relatively comfortable. But the woman didn’t share the same luxury of such a curse, and she was clearly suffering in these dank and grim conditions.
Loki turned his attention towards his fingers, twitching and fidgeting restlessly in his lap. This particular guilt was both new and unwelcome, like the haunting of fresh ghosts he thought he’d finally manage to not brutally murder for once. It wasn’t directly his fault she was here, that she was suffering. She was a complete stranger, after all, and this couldn’t have been his problem, or his responsibility.
But as Loki lifted his gaze again, carefully moving his eyes to avoid looking upon her once more, he caught a glimpse of the woman’s forgotten boots in the shadows, the ones carelessly stripped away while the guards were searching her the night before.
He recalled one of the first lessons Odin had explained about ruling a kingdom, that sometimes tact and finesse were far more effective than blades or might. Perhaps if Loki was kind instead of harsh, and if he returned the boots to the frozen woman, then she might help alleviate the nagging questions he still had and allow him to fight off sleep for just a little bit longer.
His brow furrowed, and he swallowed hard as he realized this was the least he could do for the both of them. It wasn’t much, but it felt like chopping off a limb when he cleared his throat and forced himself to speak again. “Your, um…boots are in here. They might help you with the…cold.”
The woman’s head popped back up, and her eyes narrowed as she scanned for them in the darkness. “Where are they? I don’t - ” she replied, clumsily attempting to push herself upright, obviously eager to get them back on as soon as possible.
Loki felt an odd sense of duty, one that had been buried deep underneath the many eons of pain, and it compelled him to act before he had the chance to second-guess himself. He moved slowly, shifting his weight onto his hip, and extended his arm out. His fingers were just long enough to barely grasp the black leather pull loops, to drag them closer and then place them within her reach while maintaining a safe distance, and without the need for him to stand.
A faint smile crossed her lips as she stretched to pull them closer. “Thank you so much, Loki.”
He couldn’t bring himself to make eye contact anymore; it was hard enough to listen to the bewildered gratitude in her voice. His every movement had stayed within the safe confines of the shadows, and he imagined that she saw her boots reappearing as if from the loving aid of a benevolent god, of someone else who was capable of caring.
“It was nothing,” he told them both.
He had fully intended to return his attention back inward, but he found himself distracted by the woman as she shifted on the floor. Curling and stretching her limbs, gracelessly attempting to pull a boot back on with a single hand, and then reluctantly, with both hands. She let out a gasping whimper as she tried to extend out her left arm, and Loki noticed her fingers trembling as she tried to push through the pain.
Obligation flared along his spine again, but this time, Loki questioned it. A childhood memory surfaced, of when his father would return home from war, bruised and exhausted and weary, and Loki would rush to his side, eager to help with removing his armor and assist in any way he could. He thought maybe if he proved himself useful, eager and determined, like his older brother was, then Odin might finally give him a chance to fight alongside him.
But even though his seidr had been well-advanced for his age, his father had always refused to bring Loki along, despite never leaving home without Thor. Odin had said that Loki wasn’t ready yet, that he wasn’t strong enough, that it was too dangerous for a little boy to be out on the field and surrounded by their mortal enemies.
“Such a young prince falling into the hands of Asgard’s opponents could prove disastrous to the realms,” his father had said, even though that fear had never stopped him from bringing Thor into battle. It wasn’t until much later that Loki realized the truth, that the only real use he had wasn’t needed back then - not until the direst of circumstances forced his father’s ultimate and final hand.
The woman let out a sharp groan, bringing Loki back to the present. She had collapsed back against the wall, sniffling and brushing the messy strands of crimson hair away from her face. “Loki, I’m so sorry…but can you please…?”
His eyes widened, and hers were full of tears. Her cheeks reddened, and her lower lip trembled as she spoke with a cracked voice. “Please help me? I’m so cold, and I can’t…I can’t get these back on…”
It wasn’t like the cold, calculating demands he was previously used to, and Loki realized that it pained her to ask like this. She wasn’t trying to get anything out of him, she wasn’t manipulating her way into something more than she deserved, or trying to get him to commit atrocities in her name.
It wasn’t a game or a trick designed to be laughed at later with her friends; she genuinely just needed his help. But the problem was that this kind of assistance not only required him to vacate the shadows, to come closer and share the same air as her - it necessitated physical touch. Loki was sure he couldn’t handle that.
The muscles in his fingers articulated of their own accord, separating and curling into just the right place to summon and concentrate his seidr, intent on disassembling the atoms that made up the woman’s boots and reassembling them back where they belonged.
A suitable compromise, Loki believed, except that absolutely nothing happened. The warmth that normally accompanied his magic was nowhere to be found, that familiar connection to the past and the present, to his mother, wasn’t opening its loving arms to welcome him back home - and that was when he finally remembered.
Loki’s seidr was dead, because he was supposed to be dead.
He’d forsaken his magic as soon as he’d arrived here. Once he willingly stepped through the Time Door and into this dungeon, once he’d realized that the first thing this newly-freed universe had done was trap him yet again, he decided that this time it was really meant to be.
So he didn’t bother fighting it, and he willingly let go of the tendrils of seidr he had once clung so tightly to. He didn’t deserve the honor of wielding it, not after what he’d done in New York. And what use would that magic have been to the hollowed-out shell of a person he was now? What good could he have possibly done with it anyway?
“Loki?”
Once again, the woman’s quiet voice refocused his attention. Her expression had fallen even further during his silent brooding, and she was staring woefully into the dark, desperately hoping to see him finally coming to her aid. A deep sense of dread rose up within his chest, thick and impenetrable, oozing between his ribs to singe and suffocate his lungs like molten lava.
Loki didn’t know what to do, and yet, he moved anyway. Pressing his palms flat against the stone floor, he bent his knees and carefully pushed himself upright. His joints cracked and popped, his muscles were stiff and sluggish as he slid one foot forward, and the belt around his waist was far looser than when he’d initially put it on.
Taking another step closer, his mind suddenly dizzied, and his body began to sway dangerously from the juxtaposition of pushing himself forward while he’d been wasting away. He quickly grabbed onto the wall with a sharp gasp, trying to steady himself as his legs tingled themselves awake.
“Loki…are you alright?” the woman murmured, her brow furrowing with concern.
“I’m fine, it’s just - ” Loki sighed heavily, his heart pounding and muscles trembling. “I’m just not used to…standing.”
Loki closed his eyes and leaned against the wall for a moment, willing his body back into operating under his own control. But despite his best efforts, weariness and exhaustion were still permanently at the helm, relentlessly steering him back towards collapsing and passing out again.
“It’s alright. Take your time…”
Loki’s eyes snapped back open, painfully aware that she was still watching him closely, and he did everything he could to both avoid her gaze and her reassurance. Nothing about this was alright, and he could hear his father’s chastising voice from beyond the stars, criticizing him for allowing enervation to consume him - even though that was the only way to keep himself out of trouble.
His eyes flitted across the dungeon cell, feverishly taking in the stone walls and steel bars of the door, then out to the flickering lantern light of the hallway. Loki had never even bothered to take a good look at his coffin before committing to staying in it for all eternity, but from this elevation, he could clearly examine the cuts that made up the large slabs of the walls and floor. Meticulous, flawless, precise - too perfect to have been sliced by hand.
His gaze moved to the cream-colored candlestick suspended within the single lantern in the hallway, evenly melted away and without a single speck of soot upon the glass encasing it. From there, he could make out the grooves carved by the steel bars into the doorway’s arch as it swung open and closed, and the streaked and dark stains, smudged against the grayed and leadened floor, leading from the hallway back into their cell.
The woman’s blood, he assumed, and Loki’s hands clenched into fists. His throat tightened, and the slightest hint of outrage began to reluctantly wake from its slumber.
Forcing the feeling away, Loki finally closed the distance and carefully crouched in front of the woman; only then did he let her be the focus of his attention. Loose and uneven strands of crimson had been pulled free from the long, disheveled braid nestled untidily over her shoulder;her skin was wan and pallid, and her lips were tinted with the faintest hint of blue.
Dried blood had smeared on her ear, her neck, the lengths of her hair and along her cheek. It was everywhere, mixed with the dirt and muck from the floor, coating the corners of her cracked lips and the freckles that dotted her cheekbone. The fact that the blood was dried, meaning the original wound was at the very least no longer actively bleeding, did nothing to make him feel better.
Loki lowered one knee down to the floor, precariously settling his weight onto one ankle, and the woman’s attention was now entirely fixed on her boots. She swallowed nervously, and Loki silently agreed with the sentiment. How long had it been since he’d touched another person? Did he even remember how to be gentle? How to not contaminate?
Moving cautiously, he took a boot into his grasp, threading his fingers between the loops and slowly pulling to loosen its laces. While he worked, he focused on the soft leather: its scent was herbal, earthy, and with just the barest suggestion of sweetness. Intricate designs, swirls and constellations and rays of light emanating from an overly-stylized sun were stitched into the leather, extending from the collar and flowing down way past the ankle.
Soft, pliable and shiny, the leather still showed signs of its latest polish, applied with a healthy dose of high-quality wax, from underneath the layers of grim. The boots had been methodically cared for, regularly and recently, and probably not too long before the woman found herself in custody of the mysterious guards. Loki found himself curious about the circumstances of her capture.
Stained in the same shade of night as the leathers covering her legs, they blended seamlessly together with the rest of her clothing, from the thin stockings on her feet to the chipped lacquer on her fingernails. Everything was the exact same color, save for the thin, flowing emerald tunic that had long since come untucked, and the gem that hung from her neck.
And everything she wore was undoubtedly expensive, most likely customized for this particular owner, and she had obviously not dressed for being locked inside a damp and grimy dungeon. At best, she was prepared for a pleasant walk through the woods on a mildly chilly evening; Loki tried not to think about it too much.
Out of his peripheral vision, Loki could see the woman stealing glances up at him. She watched him carefully, her sea green eyes shifting cautiously between his face, his hands, and the boot he was unlacing - obviously examining and judging the hideous monster whose help she had no choice but to accept.
Loki began to feel self-conscious. There was no doubt that his own appearance wasn’t any better than her own at the moment; in fact, he was sure it was much, much worse. Dark and unkempt curls hung way past his shoulders like sinister snakes. The skin on his hands was sullen and pallor, shifting dangerously close to bluish gray, and he had no idea if his eyes had begun to drift back into their original shade of ruby-red or not. He promised himself that this would be the only time she ever saw his face up close.
When he could no longer justify stalling with the laces, he cleared his throat, and forced his fingers to tap the underside of her leg; a featherlight touch that could have been easily missed if one hadn’t been expecting it. But the woman again mercifully sensed his meaning, and she positioned the appropriate foot for him to slide the boot on.
Too well, Loki noticed, as he pulled the collar up to settle around her calf; she was exceptionally practiced at having others put footwear on her - at tensing the right muscles at just the right moment, and extending the leg with just enough force to seat the foot comfortably against the insole.
“Sorry about this…” she mumbled as Loki pulled the laces tight and began looping them back and forth around the hooks. “Although, this is probably the most exciting thing you’ve done in a while, huh?”
She was trying to lighten the mood, to distract from the previous awkwardness of such close quarters. Loki’s response was flat and measured, his attention focused on tying instead of talking. “Like I said - it’s nothing.”
A nervous silence followed, one that was far more uncomfortable than the awkwardness. Loki hadn’t meant to be so dismissive, and perhaps he’d been far too frigid for someone who was supposed to be helping her. When he finished the final loop, he cleared his throat again and forced himself to look up again.
“Is that…too tight for you?” he murmured softly.
The woman managed a weak smile as she flexed her ankle. “No. It feels fine.”
Loki noted that her pupils dilated ever so slightly when she met his gaze, and he took that as a good sign that her head injury wasn’t a completely serious one. He wasn’t sure why he was noting that, but nonetheless, he had, and he didn’t have the energy to start questioning it. Instead, he busied himself with picking up the other boot and threading his fingers underneath its laces like he’d done with the first.
“Is this all I have left? Just waiting in this cell to die?”
Her voice had taken on a somber, more sorrowful tone now; apparently open anguish was much easier for her than polite small-talk, and if she hadn’t been so exhausted, Loki would have guessed there would have been more than a tear or two accompanying her questions. He wasn’t sure how to answer her; bringing up the fact that the other prisoners before her had never lasted more than a day or two, or the fact that they were never returned once removed from their cells, probably wasn’t going to help her mood very much.
“At least they’re leaving you alone for the most part,” Loki answered, lightly tapping his fingers underneath her other leg for the placement of its boot. “Be thankful for relative peace.”
The woman sighed heavily as she cooperated. “Relative peace. That’s all I have to look forward to?”
“For some, that’s all they’ve ever wanted,” Loki said absentmindedly. “They’d kill for it, and others willingly die in its pursuit…”
The woman’s eyebrows raised in troubled concern, and Loki tried to ignore it. He couldn’t understand why he was like this, either speaking too familiarly with the woman, or far too flippantly. He was out of practice when it came to any sort of normal conversation, but he didn’t want to be accustomed to it again. In the end, she was just a temporary distraction, and he wasn’t supposed to even exist at all.
“That’s very enlightened, coming from someone who has nightmares every time he closes his eyes…” the woman replied as he finished tying the laces on the other boot. She flexed that ankle, and then nodded her approval while pulling her knees back against her chest.
Loki’s brow furrowed as he met her gaze once more. Her eyes were wide and open, appearing to be without a single shred of judgment, only empathy. Loki couldn’t help but scrutinize her for that. If she only knew how little he deserved kindness, and he was irritated that she’d noticed how bad his nightmares were at all. He’d rather have not known that his weakness was on complete display, and thus, beyond his complete control.
Slowly pushing himself back up to standing, grateful that the task and its requisite close proximity were finally over, Loki’s fingertips trailed along the cold stone as he backed into the shadows again. But lethargy was creeping back in, along with the ever-present unsettled and restless energy, and when Loki returned to sitting, he wasn’t quite as far into the dark as he had been before.
“You know, it may help your nightmares to talk about them,” the woman suggested cautiously. “Perhaps unburdening yourself a little would be a good thing…”
Loki grimaced. Of all the ways she could have worded it, he wished it hadn’t been in that specific way. As it were, various burdens of all sorts were already going to haunt him until the end of time, it seemed, and he preferred not to be reminded of the purposes initially set upon him by Thanos. And even if he wanted to, where should he begin?
He still didn’t quite understand what exactly had happened to him on Knowhere; that entire year was just a chaotic haze of torture and manipulation, through both physical and psychological means, and it was impossible for him to decipher what was real and what was a lie. Even now, he couldn’t even recall the exact circumstances that led to his descent from the Bifrost and into Thanos’ control.
Sometimes, he could clearly remember the decision to let go of Gungnir and fall into the abyss; other times, he was absolutely convinced that his brother had pushed him in a jealous rage, furious that Loki’s short tenure as King had proved far more successful than any longer one Thor could have ever managed.
Either way, the fall had resulted in him becoming Thanos’ prisoner, and then later, as a member of the Black Order - but only after they’d finally conceded that physical torture was never going to work on the body of a Frost Giant, on an Asgardian prince raised as a warrior, or on a powerful sorcerer who already had extremely complicated feelings about being alive in the first place.
But once they realized that he just wanted somewhere to belong, they finally started to see real progress, and the emotional manipulation that followed was probably more effective than they could have ever hoped for. It was so very easy to muddy the rough waters of Loki’s psyche thanks to the Chitauri Scepter and his tremendous heartbreak - a kind word here, a clever lie there, and nothing but speeches about revenge and betrayals, destinies and purposes, salvation and redemption, and scorned Kings and their disgraced sons.
After Loki had been welcomed into the fold, Thanos explained his need for the Tesseract; if Loki acquired it, then he would be granted an army to help take Midgard by as excessive and violent force as he deemed necessary. The God of Mischief already knew that he wanted to be as destructive as possible - to both completely cripple his brother’s fondness for the pathetic humans, and to show Odin that he would settle for being a terrifying leader if he wasn’t permitted to be a good one.
His idea for retrieving the Tesseract had been a clever one; so clever that Loki wasn’t surprised that Thanos or the Black Order hadn’t ever considered it before. But getting to suggest it meant that his new Master was immediately pleased with his usefulness, something that had rarely happened with his previous keeper, and Loki was so grateful for the opportunity to satisfy.
Out of the six Infinity Stones, the Space Stone was unique in that it could generate massive amounts of self-sustaining energy. Its power signature was incredibly easy to track, and it didn’t take long for Loki to determine the Tesseract’s location inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. research facility. Under Fury’s careful and watchful eye, the mortals were studying its capabilities for power production, no doubt to be used in some kind of advanced weapons manufacture instead of something that could actually be used to help mankind.
A stereotypically short-sighted action, one that would soon be their downfall, because none of those weapons would ever be able to stop him from completing his task. Had they realized the stone’s true potential, as Loki had, then perhaps the humans might have fared better during his invasion.
Because he knew something that apparently no one else did, something he now prayed that no one else would ever be able to figure out. Loki was in the unusual position of understanding exactly how the Bifrost had operated, of how it could easily send and receive anything from across the galaxies with frightening and pinpoint accuracy. As a child, he was fascinated by the Bifrost, and more than once Heimdall had to stop him from attempting to disassemble it while searching for the details of its inner workings.
Once informed of her son’s unyielding curiosities, his mother had patiently redirected that energy towards Asgard’s massive libraries. There, he spent many late nights pouring over the texts and histories of the magnificent Bifrost. Once he’d devoured all he could from words, he then spent his time exploring the Realm and looking for means of travel that didn’t involve going to the Bifrost at all.
And thanks to the Mad Titan’s relentless and universal conquest in search of the stones, Loki had access to incalculable amounts of lore, research and history that had been stolen from countless cultures and societies. He spent months buried in books and manuscripts, performing calculations and practicing his seidr, searching desperately for the perfect combination of science and magic to get him what he needed.
All of that, when combined with his extensive knowledge of the Bifrost, allowed Loki to realize that all he needed was a power-source. It must have been fate and its impeccable sense of humor, because the Space Stone could be the engine, and the Tesseract was going to be the gateway - a terrible, incredible bridge between where you were, and where you desperately wanted to be.
For Loki, the Tesseract was going to deliver him to vengeance, respect, authority and glory - in a way that no one would be able to undo once he finally got it. His brother, his father, the entire Nine Realms and beyond, all of them would be powerless to stop him once he figured out how to open the Tesseract’s portal from the other side.
Returning to his research with a new sense of delirium, he gave up on sleep, and food, and his sanity while he searched for the answer. His cheeks became hollow, his eyes were sunken deep into his skull, and his skin grew weak and frail. His nerves were on the verge of total disintegration, his heart ached and his mind was hazy.
His every waking thought was consumed by the Tesseract, and on the rare occasion that he actually passed out, so were his nightmares. He became too lost to even carry on a conversation; all he could manage were grunts and groans and strange approximations of the word “Tesseract”. Every part of himself, anything that had once been Loki, had all but slipped away.
But occasionally, Loki would come back to himself. He would look down at his hands in horror, and he wouldn’t understand where he was or how he got there. While screaming and lashing out, the one called Ebony Maw would preach about balance, about salvation and judgment and how Loki was destined to assist the Great Titan in saving all of life, by ending half of it. He was instructed to be grateful for being allowed to take part in it.
But it didn’t make any sense, and Loki tried so hard to resist, to fight them off, to scramble to the exit and free himself, to warn someone of the terrible thing that was coming. Then, something would happen, something would touch him, and his mind would cloud back over with rage and madness. The dangerous craving for the Tesseract would return tenfold, and then he would be back on task, more eager than ever to please.
After a quick journey through the minds of the men known as Selvig and Barton, Loki finally had everything he needed to complete his sacred mission. The astrophysicist filled in the last remaining gaps about the Tesseract’s functionalities, and the archer revealed information about S.H.I.E.L.D.'s security protocols - how many personnel were on site, what types of weapons they had, where they’d been trained. The details of every file stored on their secret servers, every individual’s personal histories - including that of the beings once considered to join the so-called Avengers, the ones that might be called upon to stop him.
On his first attempt, Loki succeeded in opening the Tesseract’s portal. One moment, he was standing on Thanos’ ship, and the next, he was inside the research facility, shrouded within a haze of smoke and mania. By the third second, he was ferociously attacking, moving and acting without consideration for the stealth or secrecy he’d been trained with as a child. He didn’t even bother dodging the humans’ pathetic projectiles; instead, he focused on murdering the ones he had already deemed useless to his cause, and using the Sceptre to convert the ones that were worthy of it
Nor did he bother mincing words with Fury as the Director stalled for time, not even the ones ripped directly from Ebony Maw’s impassioned and self-important speeches. Loki already knew how unstable the gateway was, and that was by design. During his maniacal studies, he had determined how best to sustain the portal’s opening for safe and easy passage - first, in order to allow entry for the Chitauri forces, and then to facilitate easy travel for Thanos to find the rest of the stones later on.
Loki’s first act of murder had been intentionally not stabilizing the portal as it opened inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility; he had wanted the structure to collapse in a stunning display of destruction. Whether it was to be an ominous warning for what he was about to do, or if it was to serve as a call to action for the only ones who could have prevented him from succeeding, he still wasn’t quite sure.
Either way, he ultimately failed in the only way that had mattered. Loki didn’t achieve vengeance or respect or authority, and there was no victory or glory waiting for him after it was over. The Chitauri Forces were destroyed, the Tesseract was not handed over to Thanos per their agreement, and he’d made a great many vicious and unforgiving enemies that day.
In the end, the only thing waiting for him was a prison cell on Asgard, and all he’d managed to do was to make everything worse.
And presumably, after it was over, Thanos still had access to all of Loki’s research. Losing out on the Tesseract would have infuriated him and the Black Order; a minor inconvenience, sure, but it wouldn’t have hindered their quest in the slightest. Thanos still knew how to use the Tesseract because of him - and more importantly, he understood how to use it in the most destructive way possible. That was completely and entirely Loki’s fault, and he just hoped that Thanos was arrogant enough to keep that information to himself, that no one else would try and fail in the same catastrophic way that Loki had.
Maybe the Tesseract wasn’t meant to be used as a gateway, and in doing so, Loki had ensured that he’d never get what he wanted, and that he’d lose what little he had left. All of that madness and frantic chaos and deliberate carnage had been for absolutely nothing. Maybe the Tesseract was cursed, and maybe, so was he.
Because every single time Loki had come into contact with it, his life had taken a drastic and even more devastating turn for the worse. Attempting to acquire it for Thanos had broken him - mind, body, and soul; fleeing New York with it had landed him in the clutches of the TVA; and apparently, it had been his ultimate destiny to die while trying to keep it from the Mad Titan.
The absolute last thing Loki ever wanted was to be reminded of the Tesseract - more than he wanted silence, or solitude, or to rot. And now this woman wanted to know what his nightmares were about?
Even if he had made it to the prison cell on Asgard, he wasn’t planning to explain himself to anyone. What was he supposed to tell his brother, his mother, his father? That he’d been deceived? Were they going to believe that he’d fallen for someone else’s lies so easily, and without question? That the God of Mischief himself had been tricked, played for a fool and made to be the universe’s largest and most pathetic scapegoat?
No, trying to justify his actions would be a grave disservice to the innocent lives he’d taken, and telling the truth was next to impossible. Even just talking about the betrayal of his family would be too much for him to bear, and that was the only aspect of the entire thing that Loki had never, ever second-guessed.
The woman continued stealing glances in his direction, from just a few feet away now. Still waiting for him to say something, anything, to help keep her mind distracted from her own plights. For the briefest of moments, he actually considered asking if she’d ever heard of the Tesseract, or the Infinity Stones. If she knew who Thanos was, if he’d ever been to this planet before…but as Loki fidgeted with his tie, running his fingers over the frayed and broken seams in the cloth, he knew the answer didn’t matter.
The appropriate time to have asked that question would have been when he’d first arrived, back when the TemPad still had the power to take him some place else if need be. But now the TemPad was dead; he was trapped here, and the longer he could go without hearing about the Tesseract, the better. The longer he could go on in the blissful ignorance of relative peace, and without talking about himself, the easier this would be for everyone.
“How did you wind up here anyway?” He winced as he spoke, hating himself for being more than a little curious about it. “I can’t imagine the guards asking you to come along nicely…”
The woman hesitated for a moment, no doubt replaying the events in her mind and wishing she had done something differently. Her fingers grasped the gem that hung from her neck, and she swallowed hard. “I was…taken from Tessaway, my home, in the middle of the night.”
She paused, her eyes focused on something non-existent in the distance. “I don’t know how they made it past the sentries, but they…managed, somehow. They took me from my bed, while I slept…”
Loki shook his head, trying to appear sympathetic. “You lived in a heavily guarded city. It must be a very dangerous place…”
“Tessaway isn’t a city,” she corrected, furrowing her brow as she looked over at him. “It’s the castle in Fayrest. You know, the capital city…?”
He didn’t know any of that, of course, having never left this cell. The woman looked like she wanted to say more but was afraid to, and he couldn’t help but think about why she had seemed to imply before that no one was going to rescue her. “Wouldn’t someone from the castle have noticed your absence? Surely they have to be looking for you by now…”
“No…” The woman shifted uncomfortably in place, her expression broken and forlorn. “No, I was just a servant. No one important enough to miss…”
Loki had been studying her carefully ever since he’d realized her captors were going to keep her alive for much longer than they had the others. Her movements were elegant and refined, her clothing and jewelry expensive and customized, her speech graceful and enchanting; the kind of charming that could only come from years of practice. He didn’t believe for a second that she was just a servant working in a castle.
But she was also clearly in a tremendous amount of pain, and for whatever reason, was keeping the origins of her birth a secret. Loki wondered what might have happened to him if he had been given that luxury, if he hadn’t been the only one to not know the truth about himself.
“Ah, a servant,” he replied, trying to lighten the mood a little. His unpracticed lips curved into a forced and lazy grin. “That certainly explains why you’re so concerned about my well-being…”
The woman’s eyebrows raised in amusement, and she tilted her head curiously as if taking his comment as a challenge. “What’s the matter? Are you not used to someone worrying about your well-being?”
Loki’s jaw tensed; perhaps he hadn’t been behaving as opaquely as he hoped, and he hated that she could see through him just as well as he could through her. He glanced over, and decided to provoke her right back. “Well, I’m sure they’ll miss you at the castle eventually. Like when there’s pots that need washing, or linens that need changing?”
“Yes, yes, that’s very funny…” she replied, rolling her eyes. “I get it, the thing about servants is that no one knows your name until something you normally do suddenly isn’t being done anymore…”
The woman turned, and she met his gaze with a considering and dissecting one of her own. “Like you - you don’t need anything from me, so why would you ever bother learning my name?”
From just a few feet away, the woman stared deep into his soul, tugging at the strings that still held him upright and all but questioning if they were even necessary. He waited until she looked away to furrow his brow again, because while she was right about him not needing anything from her, she was surely mistaken about the other half of her point.
Because he did actually know her name; it was the first new name he’d learned in such a very long time, and he thought it suited her quite well, all things considered. But he had been trying to avoid acknowledging it, not wanting it to mean something more than what it was.
It was just a name, after all; a series of specific vocalizations designed to get her attention. Saying it out loud didn’t mean that they were friends, or that they were even important to each other. It wouldn’t bind them in any way, or obligate him to care. But if that were true, then why did he have such a problem with saying it?
Loki could feel a nervous energy creeping relentlessly up his spine again. He wished it would stop receding, that it would stay put, because the constant shifting between relaxing and stressing was completely wearing him out. He told himself he just needed to say it out loud and get it over with, before he could start second-guessing and talk himself out of it again - especially now that she had noticed his careful avoidance of her name.
“What kind of servant knows how to fight with a staff anyway?” Loki asked, affecting an innocent and casual tone. “I guess servants named Oliviette do…”
After he answered his own question, Loki looked towards her again, and Oliviette was already smiling back at him; it was a bleary and quiet acknowledgement, but the sentiment was definitely noteworthy. For the first time since they’d met, he could see the dimples in her cheeks, and it was impossible to miss the way her eyes lit up with mirth, or how her lips pursed before she finally responded.
“What? Am I not allowed to have hobbies outside of work?”
Loki struggled to not return her smile. He almost felt a sense of appreciation for her snark and the much-needed diversion from the constant aching in his chest. It was only then that he remembered that this was supposed to be a temporary distraction; he couldn’t afford to spend needless energy that didn’t directly involve finding out why the guards were keeping Oliviette alive for this long.
Keeping a safe distance was paramount, his new glorious purpose. Trust was for children and dogs, wasn’t that how he’d put it to Mobius during their first meeting? As long as he stayed here, keeping himself isolated and protected, then he couldn’t ever be tricked into being someone else’s attack dog ever again. He couldn’t ever hurt anyone again.
Besides, it was highly implausible that her life would end in any way other than tragically. Loki’d already had quite enough of that - and would it be worth getting close to her, even if it didn’t?

For All Time
Pairing - Loki x fem!reader
Summary - the reader was Loki's bestfriend since childhood until teenage and he was in love with her but maybe they were just never meant to be.
Warnings - death
Requested by - @akshinayak I reaally hope it was good enough and tysm for the request!
Tumblr media
They say breaking up with your partner hurts the most. That's not true, Loki thought to himself. They say falling out of love hurts the most. That's not true, he thought.
"What really hurt-" he whispered to himself and clenched his jaw. His crown of long, black horns feeling a lot burdensome. "-Is knowing that you would've had a chance, would've had a future together. But you didn't. All because of your own selfish reasons and insecurities".
He scoffed, leaning back onto his new throne, one that he ironically had no intentions of wanting and gripped the handle.
The frustration about himself melting away to make way for deep, agonizing pain and heartbreak as he caught onto a thread of your lifeline.
Loki's lips were tightly pressed together when he decided to watch over you, something that he had done last night itself. He couldn't help himself, seeing as your condition was deteriorating day by day.
With a deep sigh leaving his lungs, he closed his eyes, head leaning back against the throne as a certain memory drifted into focus. Putting everything else on hold.
"Fancy any one of them, do you?" Your playful voice asked when he looked at various pictures of princesses.
"Absolutely not," he slammed the last one on the table.
"Pity. I would've loved to see my best friend getting married".
Best Friend. He gritted his teeth, running a hand through the long locks and looking out of the window. That's all he would ever be. A best friend. Nothing more. Never.
Despite being able to sense emotions and read people well, the God of Mischief failed to recognise your feelings. He somehow never took notice of your lingering touches, of your constant staring and looking at him as though he had hung the stars."
Do you have anyone in your mind Loki?" You asked quietly and stood next to him. His emerald irises clashing against your golden-brown ones. "You can tell me, you know?"
You. Its always been you.
He wanted to scream it out loud, wanted to yell and make the whole world know the fact that it was you whom he had fallen for.
"There's no one," he answered abruptly and completely avoided your gaze, and in the meanwhile also not noticing the way your eyes seemed to dull.
He had loathed himself for every passing second after that incident. How different would life have been had he confessed his feelings right then?
He would still have to go through everything, but at least he could've had you right by his side. And that alone would've made all the difference in the world.
He swallowed the misery before regaining control and finally looking at you from high above. But in an instant his facade broke, face contorting in pain upon seeing your weak and frail body. A startling contrast to the strong and regal woman that you had once been.
"Oh my love," he whispered to himself, his eyes raking over every little change that had taken place in the short course of twenty four hours.
You had injured yourself, heavily. A group of oursiders had somehow managed to invade your territory, catching everyone off guard and naturally you had taken the lead.
Fighting alongside Lady Sif and your husband, Alvis.
Another painful wound struck his heart when he saw the said person entering your room, his face drowned in sorrow and desperation.
"How are you, my queen?" Alvis sat down next to her.. Next to his queen, Loki said in his mind.
"I am fine," you smiled back, your expression the epitome of exhaustion.
"Rest, yes?" He said and took her hands in his, caressing the skin. "I will be back soon enough, have to go through some work".
Loki watched as you barely managed to nod, he watched as your loving husband pressed a kiss on your forehead, something that he was supposed to do.
A harsh breath escaped his throat and he let go of the branch, his heart not being able to see its other half being in immense pain.
He had no rights, absolutely none to want himself to be in the place of your husband. He was selfish, arrogant, entitled, pessimistic whereas Alvis was the complete opposite.
You had found yourself a man who loved and worshipped you exactly the way you were supposed to be. He could've never been able to do that. You deserved someone so much better than him. Always.
"Would it be so bad, hmm?" You questioned softly, searching his eyes for an answer.
"I fail to understand what you are talking about," he muttered and looked anywhere but at you.
"I think you understand perfectly enough".
He didn't answer and walked away, because what else was he supposed to do?
"Is the idea how us getting merried so bad that you can't even look at me?" You asked, a small smile on your face.
"I did not say that".
"You surely implied that".
"I-" he cut himself off and turned to face you, his expression holding anger. "I do not wish to get married," he stated, his eyes glaring into yours but you were barely fazed.
"Okay," was all you could say and Loki immediately noticed the way your face changed drastically. You tried to offer him a smile, but for once he saw right through that.
"Okay," you repeated again, backing away from him, taking one step at a time which lead to a huge barrier between the two.
He merely watched you leave, rooted the spot. He probably didn't know it, but he had lost you at that moment. Not as friends no, you would always continue being friends. No one in the universe could possibly break one of the strongest bonds between two people.
"I love you," he whispered to the now empty room, falling down to his knees as a lone tear slipped down his cheek. "Always".
Loki let out a bitter laugh at the memories. Out of all the things he could've said, he uttered the most bitter lies.
He was a changed man now. He replayed all those moments in his head, being able to see all the chances that he had lost. Seeing just how hurt you had been from every selfish comment he had made.
What would he give to go back and change everything instantly.
It was unfathomable, the amount of love his entire being held for simply one person. Nobody ever came close, and never would. He may have been a narcissist, an arrogant liar, a tricking asshole.
But there was one thing that nobody else could do other than him. And that was to love you, adore you in such a way that a mere hiccup in your life caused him pain. To care for you like you held his lifeline in your rough, scarred, but soft hands. To want you in a way that nobody had done before.
Because that's how Loki has. If he loved someone, he loved them enough to terrify himself about the lengths he would go for, namely for the person's happiness.
He had done so countless of times for you, and unknown to him, you had cherished every single minute of those special occasions. Keeping them so close to your heart that they bloomed whenever you were happy and blocked your breathing when you were devastated.
He was lost in thought, but a sudden tug in his chest pulled him out. Loki frowned at the strange feeeling, his intuiton telling him something terrible had happened.
His breathing quickened as he gripped the branch, your branch, noticing the fading green light causing sweat to erupt on his forehead and neck.
"No, no no no," he chanted, feeling as though the world had collapsed upon seeing the scene in front of him. "No," he whispered, heart slowly but surely shattering.
He watched Alvis, tapping your cheek frantically and gently shaking your body as he yelled for the doctors to be brought. "Stay with me, my queen. The doctors are coming, please, stay with me!"
Sif was on your other side, holding one of your hand in hers, pressing the back to her lips. "I'm sorry," she whispered in between tears as her body shook.
Your face, Loki saw and swallowed. It was still as beautiful as ever. Those golden-brown eyes that made him catch his breath everytime he glanced your way, those sharp eyebrows arching whenever you narrowed your eyes playfully and that gorgeous smile that you presently held.
"I'm okay," you croaked out, "I'm alright".
The two people surrounding you simply cried harder at that, bowing their heads and pressing the back of your hand to their temple. Their way of paying respect to the bravest warrior they'd seen.
Loki's chest felt empty, as though his heart too was slowly dying, following his soulmate to the afterlife. Silent tears were flowing down his cheeks without a halt. There was only one thing he could think of to do now and he did just that.
Your eyes were half open, understanding that your end was nearing soon and you didn't have any regrets. You had lived a beautiful life inspite of the hardships.
But then a sudden warmth made you open your eyes completely for one last time. Your head tilted to see the rays of light gushing in through the open window, bathing your entire body in its glow.
You didn't fail to notice the green tint that was present and your heart skipped a beat, despite already being in a fragile state. "Loki," you whispered, your voice barely audible but the one who needed to hear it heard his name clearly.
And you took your final breath, a content smile on your face as your eyes closed.
His soul shattered next, everything suddenly feeling cold all of a sudden as he slumped back in his throne, breathing heavily and swallowing harshly.
"Rest easy, my love. I will love you, for all time, always," he said to the skies.

Chapter 1 | Up To Mischief
Tumblr media
The mid-afternoon sun illuminated the grandeur of the Asgardian Palace with hues of gold. Medea, a resident of the palace, was sat on a rock in the Royal Gardens, sketching the picturesque image into her sketchbook with intricate detail.
She wanted to capture the state of tranquility that bestowed the palace, as for once, it was peaceful; no trickery or mischief present; everyone was living in harmony-
“MEDEA!”
But what is life without a little chaos?
Medea quickly stood up and began running through the palace. Now, you must be wondering as to why I Medea Daegandottir, Goddess of Trickery, could possibly be running away from something.
Well, hypothetically, I may have pranked the Warriors Three and Sif, and I may have slipped a potion into their mead after lunch.
But that’s not too bad, right?
Well, the potion in question may have caused them to swap genders...in the middle of the dining hall...in front of the Allfather. You know, pretty much embarrassing them in front of the King, and something that might have angered them to the point of wanting revenge.
A hilarious story, I’m sure; but is hypothetical, nonetheless. For I am a noble lady of Asgard, and I would not stoop so low as to perform a petty-
“You cannot run forever, little Meddie! We will find you!” A very feminine Fandral calls.
Heh...maybe not so hypothetical after all?
Continuing to sprint because her life may very well depend on it, Medea began running from one side of the palace to the other; dodging servants and members of the court (much to their chagrin) with somewhat impeccable perfection.
However, she was halted to a stop when she collided with a body...and one quick look made her wish the Warriors Three and Sif had caught her already.
The body she had bumped into was none other than Holger Gormson--one of those members of the court who were stuck in the times of old, where women were to bend backwards to obey a man’s command.
“Watch where you’re going you malignant trickster!” He sneered.
And it didn’t help that he just didn’t seem to like her.
She only rolled her eyes, “As charming as always, Holger.”
“How dare you address me so informally, you-”
She just continued running. She had no time for stuck up old men who were obsessed with power...especially when the Warriors Three and Sif were after her.
Eventually, she reached the Queen’s Garden. Freedom was in sight; she could smell the sweet magnolia blossoms. All she had to do was make it to her alcove and she would be free.
She was within freedom’s grasp but slipped straight through when she collided into someone again.
“What trouble have you gotten into this time, Darling?” He purred.
Norns...she loved it when he spoke like that. That deep and sultry voice could make her do anything that he-
“We’ll get you back for this Meddie!” A masculine-sounding Sif called.
With wide eyes, she answered Loki, “I’ll tell you about it once I’m done running for my life.”
As quick as Fandral when he encountered a Bligesnipe, Medea grabbed Loki’s hand and, once again, continued to run.
“Darling, this is a little absurd. A Prince of the Crown, running throughout the palace, attached to a maiden that he is not courting. Quite scandalous.”
You halted and huffed, “I do not wish to be bombarded with whatever revenge plot that the Warriors Three and Sif would like to throw at me due to their gender swap crisis. But, by all means, stay and endure their torture while I go off and hide, Lokes.”
His blank stare was one that Medea wished to have framed on her wall.
“I suddenly feel an urgent need to run through the palace.”
Smiling, she grabbed his hand again, and continued to run throughout the Queen’s Gardens.
Noticing that they weren’t going to be able to outrun them for much longer, Medea dragged Loki off the path and into the trees.
Catching her breath she managed to get out, “We need to get out of here...dead end.”
Loki grinned mischievously. “What are you thinking about-”
Before she could finish her question, Loki grabbed her by the waist and pulled her into his chest; engulfing her in his embrace. Being pressed up against his muscular chest sent a plethora of butterflies throughout Medea’s stomach, and millions of thoughts through her head...none of which can be deemed child friendly.
Pulled out of these thoughts by a puff of green smoke, Medea realises that he had teleported them both to their secret alcove; a place that the two friends had not been to in centuries.
Noticing that she was still enveloped by him, she quickly removed herself from his embrace before he had the chance to notice her strawberry-tinted cheeks.
But, because luck never seems to be on her side, he noticed her bashful complexion and laughed.
“You’ve got a little something on your cheeks, Love.”
She slapped his arm, “Shut it, Lokes.”

Mob! Loki x female reader
18+ | contains smut, alcohol, unprotected shmex
Tumblr media
You brought your glass to your lips, hips swaying a little as you felt the music reverberate through you, each sip lowering your inhibitions enough to smile at the stranger eyeing you from across the rooftop. Your gazes had met a few times now, neither of you approaching the other as the people around you continued to move intoxicated in tandem, dancing to the music. When one of your favourite songs began to play, you couldn’t help the pull of the melody leaving you throwing your shoulders back as you danced, singing along with the rest of the crowd. The scent of alcohol mixed with perfume was carried around the rooftop by the swift evening breeze, engulfing you in a feeling that could only be described as nostalgia; you were happy you came out tonight.
“It seems like he likes you.” Nat spoke, finding you in the crowd again after topping up her glass and noticing the strangers gaze on you.
“Who even is that?” You replied with a small scoff not having realised she had noticed.
“Loki.” She stated as if it was common knowledge.
“Okayy.” You answered apprehensively.
“Loki Odinson.” She clarified leaving you no closer to recognition.
“Am I supposed to know who that is?” You chuckled at her seriousness.
“One of the Odinson brothers” she began, eyes rounding “they’re notorious mobsters y/n, you’re not seriously telling me you don’t know them.” Nat stressed, eyes almost pleading with yours.
“I don’t.” You replied truthfully as she looked over your shoulder.
“Well it seems you’ve definitely caught the younger ones attention.” She smiled.
“What?”
“He’s coming over.” She continued excitedly.
“What?” You gasped again before she spun on her heels, turning away from you.
“And what pray tell are you drinking tonight?”
You quickly spun as you heard the deep, sultry voice in your ear before you were met by the man from earlier who you now knew as Loki Odinson going on what Natasha had said. She walked behind him, flashing you a thumbs up before disappearing again.
“Pornstar Martini.” You answered, your eyes staring into his emerald ones. They were even more dreamy up close. Your eyes ventured to his hand as he raised it, clicking his fingers in the air before a shorter man appeared next to him.
“The lady would like a pornstar martini.” He spoke, eyes fixed on yours.
“And for you sir?” The man answered.
“Bourbon, on the rocks.” He replied before the man dismissed himself leaving you and Loki alone again.
“You could have gone yourself.” You spoke, breaking the silence that had settled between you both.
“I could have.” He agreed.
“But you didn’t.” You stated.
“I did not,” he smirked, “keen eye.” He added, making you smile too. “I like to pride myself on my observance, meaning that I couldn’t help but notice you haven’t danced with anybody all night.”
“You’ve been watching me?” You giggled.
“I have an eye for rare beauties and my my” he started, eyes trailing over your body “you are rare.”
“Subtle.” You teased his blatant eye fucking of you. Before either of you could say anything else, your drinks arrived. You took your martini, bringing the glass to your lips as you took a sip, Loki doing the same to his drink. His eyes searched for yours over the rim of his glass, busy eyes relaxing once they met yours. You bit your lip, allowing yourself the pleasure of checking him out now, your gaze lingering on the exposed hair on his chest peaking through the two undone buttons of his shirt. He was handsome, you couldn’t deny that, all the way from the shine of his inky locs to the polish of his leather shoes. His body language exuded confidence, the arrogance of his status leaving you slightly flustered especially when you noticed his eyes mapping you again.
“So, do I at least get a name?” He questioned.
“Do I?” You bit back causing him to smile.
“You’re funny” he laughed as you narrowed your gaze in confusion “you’re serious.” He murmured, causing you to shrug “you must be from out of town.” He decided.
Maybe.” You smiled knowing you didn’t live far from where you both were right now, definitely in town. “Give me your name and I’ll give you mine.” You bargained.
Swigging his drink again, Loki finished it before swallowing thickly.
“Loki odi—just Loki.” He answered.
“Y/n, just y/n.” You replied.
“Well just y/n, care to dance?” Loki offered, taking your hand.
“Lead the way just Loki.” You grinned.
His hands were large, that much was obvious as you felt them roaming over the contours of your body. This was a man who was used to getting exactly what he wanted and judging by how he pulled you against him, his chest firmly against your back as his hands caressed your hips, tonight, he wanted you. Drinks came in abundance, the both of you almost daring the other to make some kind of move. Eventually his lips caught up with his hands as he pressed kisses against your neck leaving you resting your head back against him as your eyes closed. One of his hands moved across from your hip to your torso before it moved slightly lower, resting over your stomach as he gently nibbled on your earlobe leaving you reeling. When his hand ventured back up, cupping your breast, the realisation that you were in public made you open your eyes quickly only to be met by Natasha who was across the rooftop giving you a thumbs up. You couldn’t help but smile.
“How about I take you on a tour of the city?” Loki suggested as you spun to face him.
“Maybe I’ve already seen the city.” You replied cheekily.
“Not from my limousine you haven’t” he winked “we’ll have a really good time.” He continued, hand stroking your side.
“I’m not looking for anything long term.” You warned, desperately wanting to ease the ache between your thighs without consequence.
“I’m not the commitment type.” He smirked. You bit your lip, about to reply before you saw Nat mouthing GO from over his shoulder.
Moments later you were kissing each other hungrily from the secluded inside of Loki’s limousine after he told his chauffeur to just drive. His ravenous lips found your neck, kissing you there roughly. His hand found your cheek, his thumb caressing it as your hand moved across his body. He was hard, extremely so, leaving you almost salivating when your hand reached the bulge in his trousers. His lips found yours again before he sucked in a sharp breath feeling your hand moving along his clothed erection. You eventually undid his button, freeing his length before bringing your hand to your mouth, breaking the kiss to lick it. Your eyes met as you lowered your now moist hand again, running it along his shaft. His eyes fell closed, head resting back against the seat as you stroked him, your hand tight around him. Your name fell from his lips in pleasured whispers making your smile grow and your heated core throb.
When you stopped, you were kissing again, Loki pulling you on to his lap. Your dress rode up your thighs as you rolled your hips against his, the lace of your thong driving Loki insane as it moved against his sensitive member. Unable to continue the teasing, you reached between you both, pulling your panties to the side as Loki guided himself towards your entrance. The both of you moaned as you lowered yourself onto him, the stretch filling you with carnal delight.
“Fuckk.” You panted, Loki’s arms wrapped around you tightly as he thrusted up into you. The limousine was quickly full of the sounds of you both satisfying each other as well as the aroma of alcohol and sex. Neither of you cared that the driver could hear, the only thing that existed in that moment was the two of you.
City lights passed you, the colours illuminating in the car as goosebumps spread across your body. Loki looked up at you, hands holding your hips firmly as he continued fucking up into you. Feeling yourself nearing your peak, you took over, stealing your pleasure as you bounced above him, your hands finding his shoulders as your eyes closed. Loki’s expression changed to one of awe as you took over, as you used him, centering yourself and your bliss. The thought left Loki almost quivering as he felt your walls tightening around him before you both came loudly.
You stayed like that for a few moments, perfectly still as Loki spent himself inside of you. Opening your eyes, you looked down at him only to notice his eyes had glazed over as he looked up at you.
“What’s the matter?” You asked amused.
“N-nothing I just—” Loki stuttered.
“What?” You smiled, cupping his cheek.
“You’re trouble.” He answered as the limousine came to a stop in traffic.
“Says you, Odinson.” You whispered in his ear leaving him shocked as you got off of him, ignoring the mixture of your arousal that was beginning to trickle out of you before opening the door and leaving.
Still taken aback, Loki hollowed his cheeks as he watched you walk away.
“You’re going to be a problem y/n” he spoke aloud, smiling to himself “a problem I’m going to enjoy dealing with.” He finished.
The following morning, you made your way into the kitchen to grab a coffee before you spotted Nat saying goodbye to the guy she had bought home last night.
“Bye Steve.” She smiled.
“Yeah, bye Steve.” You joked before he left, Natasha playfully scowling at you.
“So, how was last night for you?” She questioned before the door knocked.
“Did Steve forget his boxers or something?” You laughed, answering the door only to be met by a large bouquet of roses. You took them before reading the note inside.
Morning trouble

How Could this not Fit?!
Laundry Day (Loki x fem reader Y/N)
Loads of Fun (Bucky x fem reader Y/N)
Pairing: Loki x female reader - Loki POV
Summary: You (Loki) and Y/N are living together in the Avengers Tower and she has asked you to help her with the laundry. You agree and when she sees you use your magic to put away the clothing, she makes a bet with you which you simply can't resist. After a brief, albeit intense battle with the fitted sheet, you realize she has cheated to win the wager and you absolutely cannot allow that.
Warnings: ... um nothing really, alluding to sex but not much other than Loki having a literal fight with a fitted sheet
A/N: this is the companion piece to Laundry Day, you can read either one first. They just tell two different point of views for the same event... enjoy 💚
Tumblr media
You put the basket of clean laundry down on the floor at the foot of the bed. "There, laundry is all done," you say to Y/N triumphantly.
She laughs as she dumps the laundry basket she is holding onto the mattress. "Not quite, my prince," she says and your smile fades as hers gets wider. "You have to put everything away-"
You wave one hand towards the clothing and the other towards the tall dresser and closet. A green glow extends from your fingers and in an instant, everything is folded and back in the correct spot.
"Without your magic," she finishes her sentence just as the last drawer closes. She crosses her arms and shakes her head.
"What?" you ask with a laugh. You step around the laundry basket on the ground and put your arms around her waist.
"That's cheating," she replies, lightly smacking your chest.
"No its not," you counter, pulling her closer to you. "I was just saving time so we can do other, more interesting things."
"No," she laughs. "You used your magic because you have no idea how to put the laundry away. Just like you didn't know how to wash the laundry or clean the bathroom or vacuum-" she starts to rattle off all the things you rely on magic for.
You put your hand on your cheek and lean down to kiss her. Your other hand rests on her back, keeping her close to you. She grips the back of your shirt but she only remains silent until you break the kiss.
"Or cook or take out the garbage or-" she continues where she left off.
"Ok," you put your hand over her mouth and she stops. "I admit, I use my magic to help me with things I don't know how to do. I appreciate you teaching me these things but I still insist magic is not cheating. If you knew how complex some of my spells are you would know they take more effort than simply doing the task," you try to convince her. She rolls her eyes at you, your hand still over her mouth and your arm around her.
You let out a sudden laugh when Y/N licks the palm of your hand and you pull it away. "Did you really just do that?" you ask her in surprise.
She smiles and nods, "You never complained when I licked you in other places."
"Well I much prefer those other places to my hand," you tell her. Before she can respond, you pick her up and toss her gently onto the mattress. On her back, she tries to move towards the headboard and you grab her by her ankles, pulling her back towards you.
"Wait," she giggles, placing her hand on your chest as you climb on top of her. You look down at her questioningly. "The bed doesn't have sheets," she says and you look at the mattress.
You look at the laundry basket and wave your hand towards the sheets but she stops you. "No magic," she says from under you. You look back at her. "I'll make a bet with you," she offers and you smirk.
"I'm listening," you say, feeling intrigued.
Tumblr media
Well, this all seems simple enough, you think as you stuff the last pillow back in its case. You toss all four of them onto your dresser so you have space to work on the bed. How hard could this possibly be, you question as you find the fitted sheet. You are confident you will win this bet as easily as you had won the last four Y/N had proposed.
You grab one corner of the fitted sheet, knowing that needs to go on first, and tuck the top right corner in then bottom right corner. Nearly there, you think to yourself. I don't understand why she complains about doing- your thought is cut short.
Much to your surprise, the sheet is too short to make it to the bottom left corner, it goes tight before you even get close. You pull a bit harder, hoping it will stretch but the first two corners suddenly spring free.
You groan and begin again, this time with the bottom left corner. You make sure it is tucked in but not too much in case that was your issue. You carefully move to the right side of the bed but you pause your movements when you realize can't make it to the opposite corner.
You let go of the sheet and it springs back together into a pile in the middle of the bed. "Who designed this ridiculous type of bedding?" you ask aloud as you run your fingers through your hair in frustration.
You stare at the pile for a moment but you are determined to win. Shaking your head, you pick up the sheet again but you have lost the corner. "Do not test me," you mumble to the sheet as you feel along the edge until you find a corner but now you are unsure if it is the top or a side.
You get it mostly laid flat and begin to work on the right side but this time it is too long from corner to corner. "Gods!" you exclaim, "I must have this wretched thing on sideways now."
You turn it the other way, at least you think you do but it appears to be fighting back as if it doesn't want you to win the bet either. There must be a way to do this, you think growing impatient. Y/N had only given you half an hour to compete this task and you were quickly running out of time. You do not like losing bets, especially one with Y/N. You wanted to claim your prize.
You begin again, starting at the top left corner, tucking it under the mattress carefully. You walk to the foot of the left side and get the corner into position. You move to the right corner slowly.
"How could this not fit?!" you yell as the sheet pulls free from your hand and snaps back so fast it pulls the side you already fixed completely out from around the mattress.
You rip the sheet off the bed and roll into angrily into a ball before throwing it back on the mattress.
You cross your arms and look down at the offending sheet. After a moment you say, "I will not be defeated by a piece of fabric. I am a God."
You grab one end of the sheet, determined to make one last attempt to get it into the bed and notice a small tag on the inside. Your eyebrow raises as you read it. 'Top Right Corner' is printed in small black text. "That would have been helpful at the beginning," you grumble out loud. You shake your head and bring that corner to its rightful place but you pause when you notice a second tag next to it.
"Full," you say when you see the size listed above the washing directions. You lower the sheet confused, "We don't have a full... we have a queen bed."
How could Y/N have given you the wrong size sheets? You can't imagine she washed the wrong ones by accident, you wouldn't have even owned this size. She must have planned this in advance, to ensure she would win the bet. You throw the sheet onto the bed and leave your room.
Tumblr media
You walk quickly down the hall, determined to find out if your precious Y/N truly had cheated or if it was some sort of mistake. It seemed unlikely that she gave you the wrong sheets by accident and a part of you was hoping it was on purpose. If she cheated, she owed you your prize as well as a punishment, you think with a smirk. You very much enjoy finding new ways to punish her and she clearly enjoys it as well.
"Y/N," you say in a serious tone when you enter the kitchen. She looks at you nervously and your suspensions are confirmed as she backs away slightly. "You cheated," you state, still walking towards her. You ignore Stark and the others, Y/N is your sole focus.
"No, I was just..." she tries to explain. Her words die as you keep your eyes locked with hers.
"You... cheated," you say slowly, backing her into the counter by the sink.
"I mean, only a little," she smiles up at you and you fight to hold back a smile of your own. "And I only did it to make sure you didn't use your magic," she quickly adds.
"Um, I think we should go... literally anywhere else," you hear the captain say as you grip her waist with both hands. You press your body to hers, keeping her caught between yourself and the counter.
"Don't worry, we're leaving," you reply to him, keeping your eyes on her as you let a smirk cross your lips. She bites her lip and you pick her up, throwing her over your shoulder with ease. She gasps and you wonder what other sounds you can pull from her tonight. You wrap one arm around the back of her legs to keep her from slipping off as you turn to leave the kitchen.
You pause as you pass the counter and pick up her water bottle. "You'll need to keep hydrated, it's going to be a very long night, love," you assure her as you head towards your room.

loki x oc
part three
[master post]
Tumblr media
Setting: Agent Grey Forrest can’t quite reconcile her alliance with Loki. After six months of regular hand-to-hand combat and close-weapons training, they’re not quite friends but can’t exactly stay away from each other. Everything changes the day Loki accidentally stabs Grey during a training exercise.
Summary(3): Loki bares his teeth. Grey bears the weight of his guilt. Wolves are not born cruel; they lash out when danger is thrust upon them. All monsters deserve love – even if all they have known is fear. (wc 3.1k)
Warnings: Later episodes feature dark & explicit themes -- Minors DNI. Freshly stitched-up wounds, pain, implied self-harm themes (no descriptions or direct references), general angst, swearing, inferences of past trauma, non-explicit nudity (if I've missed something please let me know!)

Showering is a kind of bliss and torture in and of itself. The stitches pull as I lift my hands above my head to release my ponytail. Scrubbing shampoo into my long, dark hair means I'm forced to curl into myself and tuck my elbows into my sides. This won’t heal quickly, and I'm going to have to learn to work around it. Might as well start now.
Soap slides down my torso and over the puckered seam; I tip my head back in a silent scream, the sharp sting paralyzing my entire body.
Some tough agent I am.
But the scalding hot water on my scalp, scrubbing dried blood off my face and hands and everywhere, is enough to make it worth it. When I finally step out of the bathroom, a trail of lilac-scented steam in my wake, Loki is still there. Waiting for me.
I wish I'd picked cuter pajamas. Comfort eclipsed cuteness, though, and my old gray t-shirt and loose flannel pajama pants are as much as I could manage after the painful effort of shimmying into a loose green bralette. My hair clings to the back of my tee, leaving a big wet patch.
Leaning back in my desk chair, Loki stares deeply into the middle distance. He's somewhere far away, deep in thought as he clenches the arms of the chair so tightly that his knuckles are white.
“That's my only chair,” I say. “If you break it, I don't think they'll give me another.”
He eases his grip. His gaze loosens, and those green eyes drift to me, considering each piece of my pajamas. “Did you re-dress your … wound?”
I shake my head. “And I don't suppose you'd know how to wrap hair in a towel.” I sigh, sinking onto the edge of my mattress. Leaning forward, I dab my white bath towel against my dark, wavy locks in dismay.
Towel bunched up in my lap, I close my eyes and let my head fall into my lap with a small groan. The pain is absolutely killing me now. I shouldn't have gotten the stitches wet in the shower, soap drips notwithstanding, but there's no way I could've gotten into bed without washing up first. Wiping myself down with a wet washcloth wouldn't have worked, either – too much reaching and straining.
I focus on taking deep, calming breaths, the counselor’s words echoing in my head. Square breathing, just like music class in grade school – breathe in, hold, breathe out, hold.
Deep breaths stretch out my ribcage. Another involuntary groan slips out. Fuck.
“Grey.”
Loki sounds closer, and I’d like to think I’d forgotten his presence in my self-indulgent suffering, but there’s no way I could ignore the way his presence fills up my tiny bedroom. I hum a noncommittal response. I want to lift my head to look at him, but my head might as well weigh a hundred pounds.
There's a tug against the towel, and Loki pulls it out of my lap. Gingerly, he drapes it over the back of my neck, letting it fall forward over my hair. He gathers it up in front, and with a subtle twist, wraps the towel around my hair and tucks it back behind my head.
“Woah,” I laugh softly, finally letting my head lift. “How–”
One side of Loki's mouth turns up in a thin-lipped grin of acquiescence. “Thor,” he explains simply, his smirk deepening as some memory floats to the surface. “If you tell anyone, he'll have my head for it.”
I can't help but laugh. Loki is warm and familiar when he wants to be, like a reluctant housecat. I'm overcome with an urge to wrap my arms around him and drink in all that dark warmth.
The laugh rubs my shirt against the wound, and I flinch.
Loki's face drops. It cracks me open from the inside.
“I'm fine, Loki,” I say, forcing myself not to curl an arm around my torso. “Really. It'll probably scar, but it's not that bad. I'm fine.”
He shoves the chair back with a flick of his wrists, suddenly towering over me. “It’s not fine.” Loki's eyes darken, his brow creasing. The chair rattles backwards on an unsteady wheel and bangs against the side of the desk. A chill sweeps over me. “Stop saying you're fine, Grey. I think you've forgotten that I stabbed you today. You're not fucking fine.”
“Don't break my fucking chair if you're having a tantrum,” I frown, though I don't bother standing. I won’t fight with him. “You didn't stab me, idiot. It was a training exercise. I didn't get out of the way fast enough. If you'd stabbed me, I'd be in a drawer underneath the hospital by now.”
His eyes flash knowingly before he whips around, practically stomping away from me. He can't go far in the tiny room, and his march to the window would almost be comical if it didn't fucking kill me to see him this upset. I wouldn't treat the god with kid gloves, though. He could handle my anger.
One arm braces above his head as he leans against the full-length window, staring out at the darkening landscape below. The half-moon reflects onto his pale, brooding face. His hood bunches up around his shoulders, pushing his dark curls forward from where he's tucked them behind his ears. He's trying to calm down, too.
“You're exactly right, you know.”
Something in his tone sends a shard of ice through my chest. He doesn't break his stare, watching the world spread below us, though I know he's not really seeing anything.
“I'm ending your training.” He continues coldly, his voice flat and businesslike. As if he's ordering coffee. “This has gone far enough.”
“Loki–” I protest, pinching the skin on the back of my arm. “That's not fair. I have a say in this, too. I'm not going off to war. We're sparring in a padded room. No one else will train with me–”
He whips around, face contorted in horrifyingly inhuman fury. His hands ball up into fists at his sides. “Do you know the last agent I fucking stabbed, Grey?” He seethes through clenched teeth. A muscle in his jaw flexes, twitching up through his temple. “I killed Phil Coulson. Stabbed him in the fucking back.”
His eyes glaze over, the whites now run through with pinkish-red. He spits his admission through his teeth like a snake spitting venom. The things that haunt him in the middle of the night, that he wishes he could bury deep and let them rot in his heart forever. But they forever lurk just beneath the surface. When he looks at me, he sees Coulson.
“I know, Loki. I’m not afraid of you.”
SHIELD agents learn about Loki the moment they ask to work directly with the Avengers. We learn about all the Avengers, sure – Cap's brave sacrifice, Tony's arrogant but self-sacrificing genius, Thor's god-like might – but they’re obsessed with Loki. The training videos have something of a “keep your enemies closer” vibe that would make you think he's some bloodthirsty supervillain. Loki murdered Agent Coulson in cold blood. Loki tried to conquer Earth to spite his brother. Loki lies and cheats and stabs people in the back.
Well, he only stabbed me in the front.
“I'm not afraid of you.” My voice is even and calm. “Sit down, Loki.”
He doesn't move a muscle. If I didn't know better, I'd think he wanted to slap me.
“Coulson's alive,” I continue, shrugging with all the nonchalance I can muster. “And you can't end our training. You don't just get to decide things for me.”
“Coulson is alive by chance,” Loki counters quickly. He's lost some of his fire, though. His muscles relax slightly, even if he's still obviously on edge. “And I do get to decide for you when you're putting yourself in danger.”
Now it's my turn to get angry. His words stoke the little ember that ceaselessly burns in my chest. I get to decide for you.
“Why do you care if I put myself in danger?” I shout, ignoring the way my ragged heart chafes in my chest.
“Because I care about you, you fumbling imbecile!” Loki shouts back, palms spread wide, face contorted in wretched agony. “I had to sit here and listen to your agony while you did something as simple as shower, knowing I am the cause of that pain. For weeks – likely for months – I will be forced to watch you suffer from afar because of my mistake.” The words pour out of him, uncontrolled and unfiltered. “Day after day, I'm subjected to loathsome glares and rightfully placed suspicion. I know quite well who I am, Grey. The God of Mischief; the Prince of Lies. An arbiter of human misery.
“I found the only soul whose face doesn't contort with hatred when they see me, and I sank a dagger into her chest.”
Loki's chest falls. His entire body slumps forward under the weight of his admission. He tugs his hands through his curls again, twisting away from me. “I must go,” he finishes, his words clipped. He hastens past me.
I snag the loose fabric of his sweatshirt as he tries to walk past me towards the door. “Don't you dare.”
He freezes mid-step. He obeys, though his head is still turned away from mine. My hand curls into the fabric with a tight fist; the weight of such a grip that might bring him to his knees.
“Don't you dare, Loki,” I repeat, still looking up at him though he won't meet my gaze. “Running away won't fix this.”
His chest shudders with a ragged breath.
“You want to drown in self-pity just because you made a mistake? Learn the difference between accidents and purposeful attacks, you fumbling imbecile.” I can't help but grin a little as I echo his frustrated insult. “If you leave now, not only am I going to have to deal with this on my own, but it's going to fucking hurt when I re-wrap this stupid thing. I earned this, so I get to deal with it on my own terms.”
I earned this. I deserve this.
He finally looks down at me. Red-rimmed green eyes leak small tracks of tears down his cheeks. That shatters the cracked thing inside my chest. “Stop feeling sorry for yourself and help take care of me,” I continue, clinging to his shirt and forcing my voice not to crack.
I chose to ally myself with the villain. The man – the god – no one else will even go near.
“Stark will be furious if you forgive me.” Loki smirks down at me through his tears.
I earned this, because this is exactly what I deserve. Loki doesn’t get to decide who suffers and who grieves. He isn’t the only kicked dog here.
“Good. Maybe some disobedience will humble him.”
Loki rolls his eyes as he finally shifts, taking a step back and lowering himself to sit beside me on the edge of the mattress. “Humility is not a concept he recognizes, I'm afraid.”
The fallout from this will cause an avalanche. I wince as a mountain of potential consequences piles up in my mind. Faces flash through my mind as I picture just a few people who will need more than a little convincing that this accident was, indeed, an accident. Natasha. Nick Fury. Tony Stark. Thor. Natasha. Agent Coulson. Cap. Natasha. But for now, there are no consequences. As long as I can keep him safe in here with me, tucked away like a secret deep in my heart, we’re a universe of two.
“Are you in a lot of pain?” Loki’s voice is gentler now. He's not crying – I doubt more than a few tears actually fell to begin with – but his demeanor softens considerably, even though he still seems on edge. Loki is more than a mere secret. He’s an earth-shattering whisper passed beneath hastened breaths. Deceptively silent. Taking up far less room than he deserves.
I care about you.
The words echo again. What exactly does that mean, though? A lingering hand on my thigh during training; his head cupping my face while the doctor stitched me up.
Loki isn't a villain.
“I’m imagining everyone I'm going to have to explain this to when I can't report for duty tomorrow,” I concede, shrugging. The small movement draws out another involuntary hiss of pain.
I deserve this.
“You didn't bandage it after your shower?”
I shake my head. “Too much… stretching. Getting dressed was hard enough.” I deserve this.
Loki pushes himself off the mattress, reaching to grab the bandages sent home from the medical wing. “Let me help you.”
My face goes bright red. Fuck. In my proud insistence that Loki stay to atone for his mistake, I forgot that helping me might mean… this again. I tug up the bottom hem of my t-shirt, exposing the wound to the air. Loki furrows his brow, glancing between my face and the stitched-up gash. “You should've let me do this right away.”
Oh, god. It's redder than ever, the skin puckered and inflamed around the black stitches. The shower and friction against my shirt have irritated it like crazy. I can feel my pulse in the bright red, raw edges.
I deserve this.
Loki gingerly lays gauze over the redness. The tips of his fingers brush against the skin just beneath it. My whole body shivers. He glances up, his face only inches from mine, before returning his diligent attention to his work. “Your hand is freezing,” I say quietly, hiding my embarrassment poorly. His hands are cold, but when his fingers brushed my bare skin...
“Sorry,” he mutters. A dark curl falls over his face as he holds one end of the long bandage roll over the gauze. The hem of my shirt slips from my fingertips, falling over the wound. “Hold still, darling.”
I barely fight the shiver that word sends through me. “Sorry,” I echo, barely breathing.
“Grey, are you… will you be… decent?” He stumbles around “are your tits out” as I nod hurriedly, though I instinctively pull my arms around my chest again. “I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to remove your shirt again.” I swear to God that he's smirking just slightly as he says it, avoiding eye contact with me the whole time.
“Of course,” I answer, painting my pinched voice with as much sarcasm as I can muster. Because this is a joke, right? It has to be a joke. “I managed to get a bra on after the shower… just in case, I guess.”
Loki frowns again. “That explains much of your miserable whimpering.”
Oh. I didn't realize I'd been that loud.
“Just hold still,” he continues, brushing a hand against my waist. “Hold your arms up like earlier – yes, that's it,” he murmurs, tugging my shirt up and over my head. I'm sure every inch of my body has to be flushed pink by now. Not because I want him taking my clothes off. Absolutely not. No way.
The little monster in the back of my head grins wickedly. Because you absolutely fucking do.
I tip my head back, unable to keep watching. That only makes it worse. Now I can feel him with alarming clarity, every nerve in my body focused on his tender touches. I'm blindingly aware of my thin, forest-green bralette – some soft cotton thing that I picked because of the color name, and not because I've come to love the color green – as it clings to my skin, delicately cupping my small breasts.
“I'm sorry if I'm hurting you,” Loki continues in a low, clenched voice. “I'll be done in a moment.”
“It doesn't hurt,” I breathe, trying to stay as still as possible. The bandage – and his arm – loop around me, wrapping completely around my torso until he can grip the other side.
He encircles me with his arms. I can’t breathe.
Two long fingers press into my side, holding the cloth in place; I tip my head back, overwhelmed by the intimacy. His hands brush against my skin with every circle his hands make around my torso.
Surely he can hear my heart thundering against the inside of my ribs. It threatens to rip through my stitches and burst out through that fresh opening. Loki’s fumbled slice weakened the dam; if I’m not careful, I’ll pour out through the torn seams. A lifetime of painstaking restraint wells up behind a crumbling levee.
“All right.”
I tilt my head down. He's checking his handiwork, eyes downcast. Dark curls tumble forward as his head leans down, falling loose from their usual careful slicked-back style. I imagine myself brushing those curls back from his forehead, lifting his face to look at me, demanding he tell me exactly what he’s thinking. But nothing about my allyship with Loki has ever been so straightforward.
His impossibly broad left hand lightly rests against my right side, his long fingers stretched wide across my torso.
He lifts his eyes. The slight red remnants of his earlier outburst are fading, and the soulful eyes piercing my heart are so dark and ancient that I’m frozen in place. Some hint of a thought lingers on his slightly parted lips.
His dark eyebrows arch upward slightly; curiously.
My jaw softens, my comment or quip long forgotten. He notices, and his gaze drops to my jaw. No; to my lips. Oh.
Loki tips his head forward, brushing his lips against mine. He’s soft and hesitant, achingly restrained. Cautious.
I catch his lower lip between my own, pushing into him. He hums contentedly. The sound rumbles deep in his chest. Oh.
He slides his hand down to brace against my back, pulling me forward ever so slightly. Cupping my jaw, his long fingers sliding into my hair and beneath my ear and I’m lighting up at every touch. I relax into him, his cool fingers perfect against my flushed skin. I wrap my arms around his neck and wind my fingers into his curls. They're exactly as soft as I imagined they would be.
I've wanted this for longer than I would admit to myself. I've wanted Loki for months, wondered how his hands would feel and his lips would taste and his hair would twist between my fingers. Every aching hour spent sparring with steel and fists and sharp words and barbed grins, my wolf among the woods, the predator sharpening his prey.
My broken boy who burns the world just to spite the ashes.
If Loki is a monster, then let us be monsters together.

Warnings: Loki's dirty thoughts about  Astri, Loki talking about his life with Thanos.
For someone who had been locked up for weeks, Loki looked a little too desirable. His deep voice was soothing as he read the book he had chosen for tonight. Astri had long ago stopped focusing on the words and was admiring him through the yellow barrier that separated them. His hair was a bit curlier today than it had been yesterday, Astri wondered if he had done it like that on purpose. The green leather and golden armor he normally donned was gone and in its place was a softer more comfortable-looking outfit, perfect for the lounging that took up his days.
"You aren't listening," Loki said suddenly
   "Sure I am." She lied
"I chose a romance book because I thought you'd enjoy it." Loki sighed
"And why would I enjoy a romance book?" Astri asked
"I thought most females enjoyed romance books." He reasoned
"How stereotypical of you, Loki." Astri smiled
"Well if you don't want to read what do you want to do? Our options are limited given I'm stuck in here." He said, snapping the book shut
Astri thought about what they could do with Loki stuck in a cell. The idea of trying to push her way through the golden barrier crossed her mind, sure her magic might be strong enough but was Odin's rath worth it? Astri wasn't quite sure.
"How about we just sit and talk?" Astri suggested
She took Loki's silence as agreement and began the conversation.
"What do miss now that you're stuck here?"
   "Everything," Loki admitted
"If you had to pick one thing," Astri said
"I guess I'd choose...the stars. It was always peaceful looking out my balcony at night when the stars shone. I wish I could experience it again." He chose
"Interesting choice." Astri complimented, standing up
"Where are you going?" Loki asked
"To my chambers. I'll see you another time." She explained as she walked away
She could hear Loki scampering to find a reason for her to stay longer, even offering to never choose a romance book again for them to read together. Astri was glad that he had chosen something simple for her to bring to him, had he chosen something like conquering Midgard that would have made her idea much harder. Now, all she had to do was figure out how to get through that damn gold barrier.
Loki didn't see Astri for the rest of the week, the only signal that she wasn't angry with him was the romance book she had sent to him via a guard who had handed him a note to go with it.
Thor's lady, Jane, says men who read romance books are hopeless romantics themselves.
Was he a hopeless romantic? Surely not. They were just means of entertainment for him after all he had a higher purpose that he'd someday fulfill. Astri's analysis was wrong. Speaking of Astri, where the hell was she? She had said she'd see him again but didn't give a date or a time and it was driving him mad. The only other real interaction he'd had since she left earlier this week was with Frigga who projected herself to his cell. Sure, it felt like she was close to him but it hurt when he'd try to reach for her only for his hands to slip right through. Loki loved Frigga deeply but he yearned for Astri's sharp remarks and how she'd immediately call him on his lies.
He wondered what she'd be wearing the next time she entered the dungeons. Perhaps a lilac dress? She had been in a pale pink the last time they spoke. Of course, he'd love if she wore the blue one she had that had white lace embroidered on it, that one was his favorite. The way it accentuated what she thought was hidden so well under the fabric was perfectly sinful. Astri's figure had been on Loki's mind a lot recently. Initially, he thought it was because of being stuck here and the fact that she was going through his mind at night. But it had continued the entire week and he hadn't seen her at all. Sure, it could have been her going through his mind but that didn't explain why he thought of her even during the day. He'd spend time reading or drawing and find his mind wandering to her what her lips would taste like. He had smelled the stuff she put on them once, it smelled like fruits, would she taste like it too? Loki's mind spiraled more as he wondered what she'd look like if he slipped his hand up her skirt and into the apex between her thighs. He'd love to pin her down on the bed he was sitting on now and press his face between those same thighs until she screamed from overstimulation. He wondered about what she'd look like above him, gasping in pleasure as she took what had always been hers.  Loki wanted to be able to press a kiss to every inch of Astri's body and yet here he sat, imprisoned while she flitted about in the castle about him.
   "Good, you're still awake."
Astri. Finally, she showed. Loki's hands fumbled with the pillow beside him as he placed it quickly over his lap. It was so late what was she doing down here now?
"Well don't be shy, get up and greet me properly." She commanded
Loki eyed her arms which were overflowing with a bundled-up blanket and a big wicker basket. Ordinarily, he would've risen to greet her but his half-hard cock wasn't something she'd want greeting her so he stayed put.
"Fine, be rude." Astri huffed, pushing the blanket and basket through the small weakness in the yellow shield that was meant for delivering his meals. "You'll be thanking be after this."
Loki's eyes widened as Astri's closed. A soft blue hue covered her body as she took a step towards the shield.
"What are you doing? The guards will-" Loki stopped his words as Astri phased right through what was penning him in. "When did you learn to do that?"
"What do you think I've been spending my week doing?" She smiled crossing the cell to get to him
Loki wasn't expecting a warm hug but he welcomed it anyway.
"I can't believe you tried conquering Midgard," Astri said pulling away and giving him a hard shove
No sooner had he opened his mouth to explain his glorious purpose than Astri had slapped her hand over it, shutting him up entirely.
"You can talk about glorious purpose later. I have a surprise." She smiled, turning around and laying the blanket on the ground.
"What are you doing? You do realize this is a dungeon...how did you get past the guards?" He asked suddenly curious
"A cloaking spell." She smiled and began unpacking her basket which as it turned out was full of food.
"So you're here to have a midnight picnic with me?" Loki asked finally standing up
"No, silly. You said you missed the stars, so I brought them here." Astri smiled pulling him down on the blanket with her.
Loki decided to indulge her desires and got comfortable beside her. His hand reached for a grape as Astri snapped her fingers beside him. The area around them dimmed and the ceiling of the once bleak cell was transformed into a brilliant light show. The other cells disappeared as Astri's magic took over and seemingly wrapped them in their own little bubble. The stars twinkled and danced in front of Loki's eyes as he observed what she had done for him.
"Do you like it? I know it's not the stars from your balcony but it's the best I can do right now." She said
"I love it." He smiled, looking at her
"Good...I also brought some food." Astri awkwardly pointed out
"Yes, I see, thank you. " He said genuinely
They sat in awkward silence as Loki tried to think of something to say to the girl next to him. This was the first time they had been physically in front of each other in weeks. His hands itched to take hers in them, they looked impossibly small as she picked at the skin beside her nails.
"What the hell were you thinking?" Astri asked suddenly
"I bed your pardon?" Loki asked, confused.
"You knocked me out, destroyed Joutunheim, then let go and fell who knows where after Odin woke up and tried to help you and Thor." She explained
"Is that what they told you happened?" He laughed
"Yes. I want an explanation, now." She demanded, reaching to poke at his ribs, an oddly ticklish spot for him
"There was no point in staying behind. There still isn't anything for me here on Asgard, my rotting in this dungeon proves it. I have never and will never be essential to the house of Odin." He said
"Nothing here for him he says." Astri sighed "What about me? Or Frigga? During the year you were off gathering an army did you ever think about what we were feeling?"
Loki felt his anger boiling in his stomach. Did Astri think he was off galavanting across the galaxy, feasting war generals so he could use their troops to win Midgard?
"Do you honestly think I was living my best possible life after I left here? What do you think I was doing all that time?" He snarled, upset that Astri was only talking about her and his 'mother'.
"I've wondered every night what you were doing where you were but you never speak of it." Astri said
She had him there.
"Have you ever heard the name Thanos?" Loki asked, he felt his hands shaking. Why is he telling her this? Stop it. Send her away, yell at her to go back to her room, and push her away.
"I've heard it, in whispers from travelers and reports from across the galaxy, Odin has mentioned him." She said, Loki could feel her eyes on him, his gaze cast at his lap.
"After I let go I ended up in a place called the Sanctuary. I met Thanos there. He offered me control of Midgard in return for the Tesseract." He said shakily.
"What more? Months after you went missing, I kept trying to find you, and one night I did, or I think I did. You were suffering heat or something was being used." Astri said gently brushing her hand along his shoulder.
"He uh...He, Thanos used a tremendous amount of heat to buy my submission." Loki said, shutting his eyes. "Frost Giants can burn as it turns out."
Loki felt Astri's hand rubbing at his back and her chin resting on his shoulder.
"After I had submitted to his whims, he used the Mind Stone, one of the Infinity Stones to do his bidding. After that, he sent me to Midgard, Infinity stone in hand." He said, "It remains there, those Avengers have it."
Loki heard Astri let out a soft hum of confirmation next to him. Minutes passed and Loki dared open his eyes when he felt Astri shift beside him.
"I want you to know something, Loki." Astri said hooking a finger under his chin so he'd look at her "You are good. You always have been even if can't see it.
Their noses brushed as Loki's eyes fluttered shut again. He felt hot tears run down his face at Astri's words. Damn it why did he always cry when he wanted to express emotion?
"Thank you, Astri. I don't feel that way, though." Loki said his eyes opening to meet Astri's whose face was close to his.
"You will. One day." She reassured
Astri was indescribably warm as she pressed her forehead to his. Their breaths mingled as Loki took her hands in his.
"I missed you. There wasn't anyone to read with or joke with." She admitted
"You could have with Fandral." Loki smiled
"Oh please, Fandral reading?" Astri scoffed
"True, I think he'd rather chop off his right arm than pick up a book," Loki said, sitting up and pulling away from her slightly.
Astri's hands broke from his, and she grabbed at his shirt, pulling back towards her.
   "Wait." She murmured
   "What is it?" Loki asked
Astri's face grew redder the more Loki looked at her.
"Don't you have something to say? You told me to wait." He teased
   "I just..."
Come on, say what's going through that pretty head.
"I like it when you're close to me." She whispered as if it were a secret.
"I it like when you're close too," Loki admitted, reaching out and twirling a strand of  her hair around his finger
Astri let out an amused giggle and leaned closer.
"Guess I should stay nearby then."
Loki had no complaints about that statement and nodded in agreement. Astri's scent invaded his nose, it was exactly as he remembered. Fruity yet flowery at the same time, and yet it wasn't too overpowering. He watched as her tongue appeared, slightly wetting her lips, it was like she was trying to tempt him into touching her.
"What're you thinking about?" Astri asked
   "You," Loki said
Astri barely had enough time to crack a smile at his admission. Loki knew what was next, a smart comment about how she was always dancing around in his mind. So, he stopped it in what he thought was the cleverest way possible and brushed his lips on hers. They tasted of fruit just like he had imagined for so many years. Astri had let out a small squeak of surprise when Loki had leaned in but now, he felt her smiling into their kiss. Smaller arms wrapped around his shoulders as she let out a laugh, breaking away for air.
"What was that?" She breathlessly asked
"You said you liked it when I was close." He said a wide smile on his face.
Astri tossed her head back with a laugh and Loki felt his own laugh bubbling up through his stomach and out his mouth. He felt Astri's hands playing with the hairs at the nape of his neck, her nimble fingers pushed through his dark strands and a shudder ran down his spine. Their lips met again, this time with Astri initiating. Loki gently cupped her face as he felt her invade all of his senses, her presence was casting an unbreakable spell on him and he gladly welcomed it with open arms, after all, it was all he could ever dream of.
Hehe first kiss for Loki and Astri.
