Late Night Library Meetings
pairing: Legolas x gn!Reader
summary: Legolas stumbles upon reader late at night in Rivendell’s library. Although the two of you have never met before, something keeps you and the prince trying to find ways to continue spending time together. [Reader is an advisor to Lord Elrond, ‘Y/n’ is used, set before events of LOTR]
word count: 1.4k
warnings: none, fluff

It was supposed to be a relatively easy trip for Legolas. He had journeyed from Greenwood with a company of guards to share relations with Lord Elrond, as is custom. Of course, the visit was not just for propriety’s sake, there would be an exchange of information on the state of Middle Earth. The Woodland Prince had figured the trip, while productive, would be boring. That is, until he met you.
You were a highly trusted advisor to Lord Elrond, but had been absent from the first meeting of Legolas’s time in Rivendell. Your initial meeting with the prince was unofficial, a surprise. Legolas was wandering around the grounds and came upon the fabled library of Imladris, intrigued, he entered and inferred there’d be no one else around—considering the late hour. He was wrong, but upon reflection, he couldn’t be happier. The library was quiet and still, the air was cool and cloaked the ellon in tranquility. He stalked slowly around the grand room that was filled with an uncountable number of books housed in intricate shelves. Legolas had grown up in the gorgeous Woodland realm, he’d visited the other elven realms of Lothlórien and Imladris, Legolas thought he knew beauty. Legolas thought he knew beauty, until he saw you. You sat by a tall window at a circular wood table with books and scrolls skewed across the desk. Your face was taught with concentration and content, unaware of the now ogling prince. Your figure was etched in moonlight, giving you an effervescent halo. Legolas watched you read in a total trance. He couldn’t move. He couldn’t barely think. The only thing he could focus on was you. Who are you? What’s your name? How has he never seen you before? How is he going to talk to you? How soon can he get to know you? The ellon doesn’t know how long he stood there staring at your angelic form, but eventually he was caught red-handed.
You looked up to give your eyes a break from reading and you spotted him. You jumped a little in your chair in surprise. But you were quick to recover and realize who it was that had been staring at you. “Your highness, is there something I can do to help you?” You asked politely while marking your place in your book and closing it. Legolas nearly swooned at the sound of your voice. He’d never heard a melody so sweet. He didn’t actually need any help, but he did need to hear you speak again to avoid deprivation.
“I was simply curious to see why the library of Rivendell is so renowned.” Legolas responded coolly, taking a couple small steps closer. He just wanted to be near you, this elf he’d never met before but he now knew he needed in his life. Please ask me another question. Please don’t get up and leave just yet.
“Are you an avid reader, your highness?” You questioned with genuine curiosity but also a little tease. Legolas’s lips quirked up a bit at the hint of playfulness.
“I could be, if I get good recommendations.”
You thought for a moment. Something about this prince pulled you to him. You desired to be closer to him, his voice was soothing and you had a strange longing to be better acquainted with him. His face was fair and handsome, your fingertips itched to run along his smooth skin. You wanted him to continue looking at you with those gorgeous eyes. “Well then, If you’d allow me, I’d be more than happy to show off our collection. Hopefully my efforts will be able to satisfy your curiosity about our library.”
“I would be most delighted, please lead the way…” He paused with a smile.
“Y/n.” You provided, while getting up from your table.
“Y/n.” He repeated slowly, his smile growing as he learned the feel of your name on his tongue. “And please give me as many recommendations as you wish, I will happily and diligently read anything you provide from your beautiful library.”
“As you wish, your highness. But I’m not sure you understand the severity of your statement, you may very well be leaving here tonight with more books than you can carry.”
Legolas laughed at your small joke, a laugh that rang clear like a bell and echoed in your head in a way that made you dizzy. The blonde haired prince followed you with a pep in his step. The two of you wandered between the tall shelves of the library in the pale moonlight. You carefully picked out books that you liked in particular, giving Legolas a quick summary of each. Legolas paid close attention to each word you uttered, doing his best to cement everything into memory. He wanted to remember what you liked about these books so he could talk about them later, he wanted to remember the way you glowed in the light of the moon, he wanted to remember the various smiles you displayed while talking and walking through the library, he wanted to remember the sound of your voice so he could find and talk to you later. He wanted to remember this meeting, so he’d have something to encourage his participation in future ventures to Rivendell. Never before had an introduction to someone been so joyous for Legolas.
You could feel Legolas’s stare as you meandered through the library. His gaze was searing into you but in your heart you didn’t want him to look away. You set a slow pace in hopes of extending your time together. You kept hoping this moment would freeze in time, and you could spend years in this library with the Woodland prince. Hours must’ve gone by once you had completed a prolonged tour of the library and given Legolas an armful of books to read. Then you two found yourselves standing face to face, trying to find something to say so you wouldn’t have to part ways. Legolas decided to be bold.
“Apart from the library during twilight hours, where might I find you?”
Your eyebrows raised in surprise, but you leapt at the chance to establish another meeting with Legolas. “Anywhere you might find Lord Elrond. I’m one of his top advisors so I spend most of my time in meetings, my office, or his office—helping my Lord keep stability in Rivendell.”
Legolas took a moment to process your words. You’re an advisor to Lord Elrond! That means you should be at all the meetings Legolas will be attending! Oh, how the ellon’s heart skipped at this new information. This will not be a one off encounter, he’s bound to see you again! The prince couldn’t help the grin that broke out across his fair face.
“Well then, unfortunately for you, you’ll be seeing a lot more of me for the next couple of weeks, Y/n.”
Your heart stammered at his sly response. “How unfortunate indeed, here I thought I was about to be free from your presence.”
“Not in the slightest, and I hate to inform you, but this means you will be subject to many tiring conversations about some books a certain elf has just thrust into my arms.”
“Well at least the conversations on these books should be more entertaining than the meetings, especially since whatever elf suggested to you these novels seems to have impeccable taste.”
“I guess the quality of our discussions will be the judge of that.”
“I guess so.” Your smile matched Leglas’s as your quips came to a natural end. You felt light in the head over the ease of your conversation with him. You had never before felt so comfortable talking to someone, let alone a stranger. You were already dreaming of your next topics of discussion. Legolas felt light in the chest, he felt like he could run through the treetops across Middle Earth without tiring. He didn’t understand how it was possible for him to be so content and happy with someone he’d just met. Legolas was certain, without a doubt, he needed to get to know you more. If you made him this happy in the couple of hours he knew you, how happy could you make him after years of getting to know each other? There’s only one way to find out.
“Well, the hour is late and we both have long days tomorrow so I will have to bid you goodnight, your highness.”
“Please, forgo the titles and just call me Legolas.”
“…Alright then. Goodnight, Legolas.”
“Goodnight, Y/n..” Legolas’s grin seemed to grow as you uttered his name, but still, the two of you left the sanctuary of the library and parted ways to return to your respective rooms. You fell asleep that night dreaming of a certain Woodland prince, with a smile on your face. Legolas fell asleep hours later, after starting your favorite book from the pile of recommendations. Neither of you could wait for the next day, when work would provide you the perfect reason to strike up another meeting.

Congrats on 100 followers!!
What are some of your lotr headcanons?
Thank you so much 🥳 Ooooooh good question 👀 lessee *cracks knuckles* I’m going to do some regular one & some romantic ones, enjoy 😘
Some of my LoTR Headcanons!
*General*
✧ Aragorn may have worn Boromir’s bracers, but he also kept a drawing he found in his pocket. Turns out Faramir had drawn it one day when they were boys and his older brother held onto it until the end of his days.
✧ Legolas is so soft around little ones. He tries to act all like a wise guide but devolves into letting them climb him and carrying them up to rooftops for starlight stories. Doesn’t even care if they grab his hair or his ears, he’s still smiling so gently at them.
✧ Pippin is what would be called in modern days neurodivergent, more specifically with autism and ADHD. His parents and Merry were the most understanding ones, the ones who knew what he needed to hear and how he would process it best when others didn’t always understand.
✧ Legolas and Aragorn had the habit of singing together at fireside, quiet elvish songs, until one evening Gimli decided to put a stop to it with a dwarvish drinking song. In the end, the others find it so funny they learn it and join in, all three of them leaving their troubles for one night of song.
✧ Lord Elrond? Elrond of Rivendell??? Makes the best cup of tea in Middle Earth, fight me.
✧ Faramir teaches Pippin his favorite childhood game, probably something akin to chess, not really expecting the hobbit to enjoy it but Pippin ends up beating him out of sheer luck
✧ Frodo, Aragorn, and Legolas could have totally talked some shit in Elvish to each other and I firmly believe they did
✧ Arwen thinks of Lindir as a friend, but he’s so formal that in his mind such a lady could never see him so casually, leading to comical differences in the way they address each other
✧ Pippin wants a shit ton of kids some day. Sam is happy with around three, Merry wants a boy and a girl, Frodo isn’t sure he even wants children at all, but Pippin? He’s down for five to ten no problem, and he will be best friends with every single one.
✧ Eowyn teaches Faramir a bunch of horse riding tricks and he falls in love with riding as a sport, smiling as he takes in an act he only performed in war during a moment of pure joy and prosperity.
*Romance*
✧ Merry and Pippin are both such passionate kissers. OMG you will be breathless
✧ Elrond is the gentlest lover, handling his partner so carefully as if they were like gorgeous blown-glass in his hands and could break.
✧ Boromir is the type to grab his partner’s booty when they’re kissing in private
✧ Frodo’s ideal partner is not the smartest person or the most well-read, but someone with lighter spirits than his, someone who can never fail to bring a smile to his face and a laugh out of him.
✧ Faramir absolutely adores surprising you with flowers, so get ready to find them everywhere.
✧ Legolas is incredibly shy, inexperienced, and unsure with romance, so he prefers you to lead so that he can respond in kind, learning and studying with each touch, each act. He discovers his favorite thing is tracing a hand up and down your spine as you embrace.
✧ Gimli likes to act so rough and tough for someone who, in modern terms, would be called a massive simp, practically rolling out a red carpet for his partner and worshipping the ground they walk on, kissing them almost reverently unless the mood shifted deeper.
✧ Eomer is so good at giving massages, his partner will feel like royalty whenever he helps them relax
✧ He doesn’t look it, but Sam 100% would be the type to hold you up against a wall as he kisses you
✧ Aragorn enjoys being little spoon quite frequently. Fight me.

Being best friends with Legolas
Tumblr media
Headcanons below the cut!
Legolas and you are probably inseparable.
I mean let's be real here, when it comes to friendship, Legolas values it so much.
You're practically family to him.
And you think the world of him.
90% sure as young elves, you two would spend all day in the woods and play tag, practice archery or just run around and laugh about something.
hang out in the trees, swing from tree to tree.
usually you'd instigate the tomfoolery (as Thranduil would point out) and Legolas would just follow you with a soft smile because though he's not very expressive, it's super clear that he loves to just hang out with you.
Yeah, Thranduil ain't too happy about that, though. But then again, when has he EVER been happy after his wife passed away?
It's obviously no surprise that when everyone's gathered in Rivendell at the secret council with Elrond that you volunteered to go with Legolas.
Wasn't really a favored choice, though, considering that Elrond gave you the side-eye and Gimli almost lost his mind at the thought of having to deal with not just one, but TWO elves.
Poor dwarf's wringing his hands in the air, and swinging his axe around.
Doesn't sway Legolas's opinion, he's ecstatic about the fact that not only were you joining The Fellowship to get rid of the One Ring (an important task) but you were going to be able to hang out with him even more?
The past few years the two of you hadn't seen each other since he had been with Aragorn, but this was a prime opportunity!
You'd probably eat Lembas bread with him and chat about how your life has been since you've grown up
Not much time for your usual shenanigans and the dynamic has quite shifted since you were young
Rather than trying to do something for the sake of adventure, you were going on an adventure for the sake of saving Middle Earth.
Yeah, BIG change.
And Legolas, being the best friend you could ask for, would certainly help you along the way, guide you through the quest and still be that kind soul you knew when you were young.
You could tell him anything, and he'd listen intently
your own personal little therapist and he'd listen to you rant about something
and he's ALWAYS interest to hear what you have to say, even if it's in the middle of fighting a bunch of orcs or Nazguls.
Y'all got each other's backs ALL the time.
I mean ALL the time.
When Legolas and Gimli are having a face-off at Helm's deep, best believe you're killing these orcs alongside him
"That's not fair! You can't just add your kills together!" Gimli would cry out
"Ah, but you forget, we're practically the same... one in soul," you'd reply with a cheeky grin.
Legolas would totally grin back as Gimli's losing his mind.
The banter?
Insane.
You're more forward than Legolas, so you're quick to tease Gimli whenever an opportunity comes up. Legolas is more subtle, finding only a few moments to tease the dwarf
but when he does? yeah roasted
Both of you teaming up against Gimli for fun sometimes, hunting together, making plans
Safe to say that when Legolas leaves for the Undying Lands with Gimli, he brings you as well.
Just the three of you guys, on a boat, talking about life and making tons of jokes
Best friends, side by side, with no worries at all.

Then They All Fell To Their Knees As He Raised His Fist Before He Spoke Chapter 1
Summary: Elrond decides fuck it and joins the fellowship of the ring. Sauron should be getting very worried right about now. Title from Hells Comin’ With Me because that’s kind of the vibe here.
He appraised those before him, many valiant warriors certainly, some with enough good in their hearts to perhaps fight the corruption. Maybe they would stand a chance, just maybe, of overcoming this darkness. They would have to he supposed, after all the age of the elves was coming to an end, his kind were dwindling after so many ages of loss, few remained on these shores and fewer still of the famed heroes renowned in song.
Even they were chiefly renowned in songs recounting their heroic deaths, their last stands, their attempt to fight against total despair just that, attempts; brave ones of course but…. The Elven heroes of song almost always failed, with particular emphasis on those coming from the house all three of his fathers belonged to who in their case were quite literally doomed, ‘to evil end shall all things turn that they begin well,’ summed it up quite succinctly he thought.
Now, Earendil had circumvented that Doom for himself but only by forsaking all else, an untold sacrifice of all he held dear and through incredibly fortunate timing that was unlikely to be replicated and they certainly couldn’t wait for. If there was hope to be found was it really to be found in those great heroes? Perhaps their time had truly passed, now their only role was to provide shelter and counsel to those who needed it and protect their own until the time came to sail.
Had they not already given enough to this Middle Earth? Now they were truly spent and the other kindred must finally learn to do this completely for themselves, they’d needed him less and less as the years wore on regardless, fewer travellers coming through as his house’s existence was occasionally forgotten to mortal memory . In a few more millennia it would be as if they’d never been there.
He was willing to see it done, the Fellowship of the Ring with the hobbit as Ring Bearer, least likely of all the kindred to be corrupted if Bilbo Baggins was any example to go by. He was willing to see it done until the youngest hobbit appeared from where he’d been observing proceedings and demanded to be included in the quest. Elrond knew he would not be able to turn him away, just as he and Elros could not have been made back down from bearing arms at what must be a comparable age.
How many times must this happen? How many would have to sacrifice their innocence for their safety, make such impossible decisions for those they loved? Could he truly let this continue, let more people continue to suffer as he and his brother did in a world torn apart by war? He could not in good conscience stop Pippin from fighting to save Middle Earth from subjugation or refuse him his loyalty to his friend but perhaps he could protect him as he hadn’t been protected.
If Earendil had broken the Doom through sacrifice Elrond would do it through sheer righteous fury. One thing the Noldor could not be criticised for was their lack of will to keep trying when all the odds and common sense were stacked against them. Besides, Luthien and Beren had won against Morgoth. Perhaps he could take some of those ‘whatever the opposite of cursed is’ genetics and combine it with the stubbornness and fury to end this once and for all.
He was definitely not doing the ‘and my weapon’ bit though. This was a time sensitive matter and it would take many more years than they had for him to list all the items he had on his person that would be considered weapons in his hands.
*****
They waited for Elrond to finalise it, surely he must say something, after all this was his council so it only followed that he would announce its end. He simply furrowed his brow, Frodo wondered if perhaps he had decided they may not have hope after all; if Elrond believed it was futile he wasn’t sure what they would do next. There was nowhere else to go, no one more likely to have all the answers.
After a tense moment’s pause Elrond rose to his feet, all eyes in the room waiting for him to voice his approval of the quest. He announced with suitable solemnity ‘You will be the Fellowship of the Ring.’
Gandalf nodded to Elrond in a private moment of conference, accepting the path that had been chosen. Then, for the first time in Frodo’s memory, Gandalf seemed genuinely taken aback when his old friend continued to speak, eyes widening in complete shock.
Elrond smiled at Frodo, with just as much kindness as he had before but an edge of something, of light and passion glinting in his silver eyes that Frodo hadn’t seen anywhere before. ‘I will accompany you on this quest also and give what assistance you may require to see it to its end.’
This was met with a moment of confused silence, no one quite knowing if they had understood correctly; it was one thing for a reckless young archer prince from Mirkwood to volunteer his services but elven lords- elven lords known for their scholarly and healing prowess at that- did not go on quests. They simply didn’t, they hadn’t for more generations than hobbits as a species had existed for, they hadn’t since the One Ring was new to the world.
Glorfindel was the first to recover his voice, ‘My- my lord are you certain?’
The advisor at his side, Erestor if Frodo remembered correctly, looked at him incredulously, distracted from the look of pure exhaustion he was sending towards Elrond, ‘Of course he’s certain. We hoped this day would never come but just look at him, he’s gone full Finwean. There is no way you’ll be able to get him to back down now.’
The look of pure terror that took hold of Glorfindel at these words, when he had shown not a trace of concern at those black riders, was staggering to behold as he swung around in his chair and stared at Elrond in horror, ‘Elrond- I beg you to think rationally. Please don’t do this.’
Elrond spoke gently, ‘Glorfindel, you needn’t worry, I can manage-’
Glorfindel exclaimed in despair ‘I’m not worried about you! You don’t understand, your family will kill me if you pull a Fingolfin. We’ve gotten so far, you can’t do this to me now.’
‘Glorfindel no one is going to hold you responsible. I’m several millennia old, they know I make my own decisions-’
‘Do you think that will be enough to hold off the Lady Idril if I tell her her only grandchild rode off to face Sauron the year he was meant to sail! That’s not even to start on if the Feanorians in Aman have recognised your adoption as making you a genuine heir to their house, they’ll tear people limb from limb! Starting with me!’
Erestor seemed much more calm about the whole thing, inquiring in a voice dripping with sarcasm, ‘Will you require a large hound of some kind? Since we seem to be resorting to plan L of our Last Alliance contingencies?’
Elrond did not pay him much heed and began to move on to other matters, ‘Arwen will take care of Rivendell, she’s more than capable.’ Here Gandalf shot Elrond a questioning look and Elrond nodded in response which seemed to both satisfy and surprise him going from a brief rise of the eyebrows.
‘And I have full faith my captain and counsellors will assist her should she need it. My sons will muster the Dunedain, they are not as many as they once were but I’m sure Aragorn can attest they may be of no small importance in the fight to come.’
‘Is there anything else?’
*******
By the end of the week Elrond had set as much in order as he could, organising a few packs, mostly comprised of whatever healing herbs he may struggle to forage for and anything he thought his companions likely to neglect, he had enough faith to know Aragorn would pack well but it was best to be cautious for the rest of them.
The hobbits were not used to such journeys and while they could be relied on to think of things that would be nowhere on anyone else’s list of priorities such as, from what some of his rather mystified kitchen staff had informed him, pots and pans, they may pass over more urgent matters such as tertiary blades in case they lost their first two. They would have packed at least two wouldn’t they? He’d heard the Shire was a peaceful place but surely not so peaceful they wouldn’t carry little knives in their boots just in case? Maybe it would be best he pack them five each as a precaution.
The old motions brought more memories back than he usually cared to respond to all at once, Maedhros drilling into him what he would need to have on him at all times, yes even while still in Amon Ereb you never knew when orcs could attack, grabbing the essentials from a camp that needed to be abandoned without a trace faster than anticipated.
He knew he was putting this off, it was a greater struggle than he should like to admit to relinquish the power Tyelpe’s last creation gave him; despite never seeking it out, to feel it leaving him, especially on the brink something that would require any reserves of strength he could call on, was no small thing.
The longer he left it the higher the likelihood he would manage to convince himself it was unnecessary when he knew how disastrous the consequences would be if one of the three left Rivendell, where it was safe from Sauron’s designs and protected this place that was so dear to him and would not survive without it.
He found Arwen by the shores of the Bruinen, the spray dancing about her hands as if it had already recognised her as its current mistress; perhaps it had. There was a melancholy air about her, an apprehensiveness; the fate of this quest certainly held more at stake for her than many others as now it would include both her love and her father in the balance.
He carefully slipped Vilya from his finger and gazed upon it for one last time, cradling in his palm the flawless work of one of the greatest smiths who had ever lived, his beloved, far too trusting, cousin, betrayed for his good nature by one he had let into his halls.
This was for him, for his Tyelpe and for his king who had pressed the ring into his hand, entrusting it to his keeping, in the bright dawn of the day he had ridden off never to return, a parting gift to the person he had loved most in the world, given with a chaste kiss to his hands.
This was for Celebrian, his wife who had endured horrific torment and suffering at their hands, who had been forced to leave by the vindictiveness of all that Sauron had created. This was for all of them, what they had begun must finally be called to completion, they must finally be able to see that it had not been for nothing, he would not sail and join those he loved until they could rest in the knowledge that Middle Earth was safe, that their tormentors were gone.
He could not hope to succeed if he allowed his desire for the power he could call on from this ring if situations left his control to cloud his judgement of what would truly be best for their goal. He must be able to trust that he was strong enough himself, if he was going to need to fall back on external power to save them once things got challenging there was no point in this entire endeavour.
So he smothered any lingering hesitancy and sat by his daughter’s side, holding the ring out before her. ‘I think it is time you take this, my daughter. It will give you the power to shelter this valley from those who would do it harm in my absence.’
She met his eyes and took it, watching for any hint of reluctance to relinquish it, cautious as he had taught her of the snare objects such as this held on those who possessed or coveted them. He watched her place it into her finger with a combination of many emotions but mostly an overwhelming sense of pride.
She closed her eyes and he could feel her mind pushing out cautiously around her, prodding her and there and embedding herself into the valley’s fabric, the force of the river setting in her consciousness with the throb of her heart, the earth beneath her bursting into bloom quite suddenly with the excess of power flowing through her veins and spilling out in the form of a few new rose bushes on the river bank.
The valley may have been reluctant to accept another guardian after so long, even one who was in many ways familiar to it, so to intertwine with it fully Arwen only needed a little push. Elrond’s heart was somewhat lighter after discovering that the process did not push him out of alignment but only have her settle in beside him, even without Vilya he could feel the hum of the valley around him as he had before.
He was also much relieved that he hadn’t been relying on the ring as much as he’d feared, hadn’t become complacent enough to forget years of training and he felt his- well Galadriel didn’t like to call her own abilities magic but he was less certain about that matter in his case, as, he believed, was she though she hid it well- was as honed as ever, restless and waiting for a chance to be set free on it’s unfortunate enemy.
When Arwen opened her eyes at last her eyes were wide and shining, reeling from what she felt coursing through her, suddenly having things that she had only glimpsed in her father’s eyes her entire life at her fingertips in a single moment. She had most likely never looked more like Luthien Tinuviel, the certain sense of the otherworldly enhanced to a degree rarely seen in those with as slight Maia heritage as her.
‘Ada, I,’ she blinked rapidly trying to carry a train of thought through when bombarded by that of so many in the valley’s at once than she was used to, finally setting for a disbelieving, ‘Is this how you feel all the time?’
Elrond chuckled, ‘You get used to it my dear.’
‘Really?’
‘Just give it a few thousand years.’ The glare she gave him was met with perhaps less cowering and a good deal more chuckling than she would have liked.

Chapter 3-And So It Begins
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: As you and Legolas near Rivendell for the Council of Elrond, you grow steadily worrisome, and Legolas senses it. When you finally reach home, you are greeted with arms wide open from your father, older twin brothers, and your sister. You also discover your father has many guests staying at his kingdom, to include Gandalf the Grey.

Sindarin to English translations
*nin cóon- my prince
*Nin mellons/*nin bein mellon- My friends/my fair friend
*hain baur anand na post -they need time to rest
*Cin ceri- sui eithel, nin cóon-You do as well, my prince
*nin híril/ nin bein hiril - my lady/my fair lady
* Lothron im?- May I?
*Tinu Galad- Star Light
*Nin bein -iel- My fair daughter
*Adar- Father
*Happui na gar- cin bar-Happy to have you home
~~~~~~~~
The journey would take at least two months if you travelled straight through without stopping. Fortunately, as you were the daughter to the Lord of Rivendell, you also had authority to grant stops for breaks for the entourage that toured with you and Legolas.
Legolas was normally quiet during times of travel so he could focus on navigating and hearing threats that are possibly approaching. This time, he was even more silent than usual.
“Are you troubled, "*nin cóon?” You ask him as he was gazing ahead in silence for almost four hours.
Legolas snapped a startled look at you as if you disturbed him from subconscious thought.
“I’m quite well, *nin bein hiril.” He responded, reverting his attention back onto the path ahead.
Of course, you didn’t entirely believe him. Legolas is distracted. Although he was vigilant of his surroundings, half of his thoughts were lingering elsewhere. This worried you because you were so mindful of Legolas’ wellbeing since you were wee elves.
"*Nin mellons, we shall rest here for the night!” You call out to the assembly of elves behind you.
Legolas shot a disagreeable look towards you.
"Legolas,*hain baur anand na post.” You responded sternly, yet tenderly.
“*Cin ceri- sui eithel, nin cóon. We have been riding for almost a week without stopping, after all.” You added.
He softened his facial expression and nodded in agreement. He knew you were only doing what’s best for the elves who travelled with you. He forgets that he is often overly driven during excursions that warranted great importance. Especially since it was at the request of your father, and he didn’t want to disappoint Lord Elrond if he could possibly help it.
~~~~~~~~
The other elves set up a few fires with pavilions for shelter. There were only about a dozen of you travelling total, but as royals, you and Legolas each had your own sleeping quarters. As the subjects relaxed while enjoying food and drink, you carried on with your nightly routine strolling with Legolas through the wilderness. It was nice to see new scenery you hadn’t seen before.
“Legolas, why do you suppose my father has called a council?” You asked.
He looked over to you with a relaxed gaze.
“I was going to ask you the same question, *nin híril.” He responded with a smile.
You laugh, “Well, you had seemed eager when your father insisted you attend.”
“I have been trapped in Mirkwood refining my combat skills for a long time in hopes I’d have the opportunity to utilize them. I imagine your father has a quest in mind. Or so I hope.” He responded.
You nod, deflecting your eye contact from his. Legolas continued looking at you.
“This discourages you.” He acknowledged.
You look back to him.
“No.” You respond curtly, looking away again.
Legolas tilted his head perplexed, then emitted a playful smile.
“You lie, *nin mellon.” He teased.
You deliver a look of irritation at him.
“How so?” You ask as you narrow your eyes.
“Because you won’t look me in the eye! You are disturbed by this summons to Rivendell.”
He was right. You were troubled by this. You fear there is a journey at hand, and that Legolas would be the one to proceed forward with it. To go on…without you.
“And, if there is such a mission father had arranged, why couldn’t I go as well? I am perfectly competent with a sword and bow.” You think to yourself.
Your mind says this, but your heart claims it’s because you didn’t want to spend months, (possibly years) awaiting Legolas’ return. Agonizing over his whereabouts each day while he is away. Wondering if he’s still captured, injured…or worse.
“No! I couldn’t bare it. I won’t allow it.” You thought anxiously to yourself, feeling your heart hammering against your chest in a panic as your imagination of this unknown voyage worsened.
~~~~~~~~
Your worrisome thoughts kept you from sound sleep that night. The following morning as you struggled to mount your horse, Legolas watched you with apprehension.
“*Lothron im?” Legolas offered his hand to help up to your saddle.
You look at him, and nod.
Legolas took you firmly at the waist and hoisted you upward effortlessly onto your stallion, *Tinu Galad.
You settle into your seat, then notice Legolas shaking his head with a grin.
“What is it, Legolas?” You ask.
“I will never understand why you gave him that name.” He said referring to your horse.
You let out an exasperated sigh, “Because his silver coat gleams like the stars in the night sky. Just like the stars, he brings light when there is darkness in my life.” You explain as you stroke the neck of your handsome steed. *Tinu Galad neighed lovingly under your touch.
Legolas stroked his neck as well, grazing your hand against his nonchalantly. Your stomach fluttered. Your heart practically stilled when he grabbed your hand, holding it gently in his strong capable hand. His thumb brushing along your knuckles affectionately.
You look down at your hands together, then look up to meet his piercing stare, and his soft smile.
“Y/N, I know you are bothered by what’s to come. I sense your distress. Steady your thoughts, and your heart.” He said with his usual soothing tone. You return a smile. He pats your knee as he passed you to go to his horse behind yours.
You let out a sigh of relief, his soothing words lingering in your mind.
~~~~~~~~
The rest of the trip went rather smoothly. As a matter of fact, you enjoyed your travels with Legolas on this specific journey. You weren’t certain if it was because you normally cherished your time with him, or if it’s due to the limited amount of time you might have left with him before reaching Rivendell.
You and Legolas ride side by side upon entering the floral clad archway leading to the main gates of Rivendell. A sight you and your best friend recognize and appreciate all too well. Many a day have you both crossed eachother’s threshold as children during state visits at one another’s kingdoms, quite excited because you get to engage with your closest playmate. A time long ago when nothing else mattered in Middle Earth but you and Legolas. Until now, as adults, reaching Rivendell for a mysterious gathering of council called by your father.
“*Nin bein -iel!” You hear from a distance.
You look beyond the Rivendell guard holding *Tinu Galad to see your father, Lord Elrond, your twin brothers Elladan and Elrohir, and your sister, Arwen, rushing to greet you and Legolas.
You smile widely, waving excitedly seeing your family approach.
Your state visits took months away from you and your family. You missed them terribly and was overjoyed to see them finally.
When they finally reached you, your father and sister embraced you in a warm and doting hug, as your brothers greeted Legolas with their traditional Elvin greetings.
“Have you grown since I last seen you?” Elrond asks.
You grin and laugh with him.
“Of course not, *adar.” You reply.
“*Happui na gar- cin bar, sister.” Arwen welcomed. You hug her tightly again.
“Also, Legolas is quite the spectacle since I last seen him.” Arwen whispered to you teasingly.
You pull away flashing a disapproving look at her.
“Odd, I haven’t noticed.” You reply with a mischievous smile. Arwen smiled back.
Your father approached Legolas.
“Legolas, Son of Thandruil, I bid thee welcome. I trust my daughter was of no trouble to you and your father whilst at Mirkwood?” Elrond asks as he embraced Legolas in a brief one-armed hug.
“Unlikely.” Elladan scoffed under his breath with a chuckle.
Arwen thumped Elladan’s shoulder but she couldn’t help but smile herself.
“It was my great honor to escort Y/N home, your lordship.” Legolas responded with a respectful bow.
Lord Elrond smiled approvingly at Legolas and returned a nod accepting his customs and courtesies.
Elrond ushered Legolas ahead towards the castle to get settled while you walk with Arwen behind them.
Arwen continued to pursue conversation of Legolas with you as you approached the castle.
“Y/N, Legolas has grown into quite the leading elf. Father adores him. Elladan and Elrohir as well, just look!” Arwen gestured ahead at Legolas, Elrond  and your brothers ascending the stone steps side by side.
You look up to see your father’s arm draped across Legolas’ shoulders having an in-depth conversation. All nodding and laughing in agreement about something. Getting along quite well as usual.
You remain silent, half smiling then looking back down.
Arwen looked at you, awaiting a response. You knew what she was trying to achieve bringing this to your attention.
“Arwen, King Thandruil forbids Legolas and I as friends, let alone becoming his bride. We would never gain his approval.” You stated.
Arwen’s impish smile faded into concern. Her eyebrows furrowed.
“And why is that?” She asked.
You hesitated to respond, knowing she would detest your answer.
“He prefers a pure Elvin bloodline for Legolas.” You say more shaken than you had wanted to.
Arwen’s dissatisfied expression deepened. Annoyed by the arrogance she just heard. She pulled you closer to her.
“Hear this, sister; if your heart lies with Legolas, then you take hold of Legolas, and do not give in. Not even to the high and mighty, King Thandruil.” Arwen stated.
You love your sister dearly. She always took you under her wing, and never allowed you to think less of yourself. She knew you the best among all your family members and made certain you knew deep down you were a treasure. She already sensed your soul belonged to Legolas. Even if you didn’t even fully know yourself.
You look at Arwen then smile, “Just like yourself and Aragorn?” You raise your eyebrows at her in triumph.
Arwen smiled affectionately at you; aware you know her all too well.
Aragorn, son of man, heir to Isildur, raised in your kingdom under the protection of your father, fancied your sister, Arwen, with all his heart. Their connection beginning similar to yours and Legolas.
You both giggle.
“Is Aragorn here?” You ask Arwen.
“He is. Arrived just this morning.” She replied.
You observed a small scratch on her right cheek.
“What’s this? You ask concerned. You gently touch the wound. She pats your hand reassuringly.
“A thorn from a sapling grazed me as I was escaping from Black Riders.” She explained.
Your eyes widened. “Black riders?? How have you found yourself having to evade Black Riders?” You ask alarmed.
“There is a great deal to explain, sister. Much has occurred while you travelled home from Mirkwood.” Arwen said.
~~~~~~~~
Your father boarded many new guests at Rivendell before your return. You discovered the presence of four Shire-folk, the High Warden of the White Tower, and the Lord of the Glittering Caves in addition to Legolas. Even the great Gandalf the Grey was present. This must have been a meeting of great magnitude to gather hobbits, men, dwarves, elves and a brilliant wizard.
things i did and didn’t like about rings of power (so you don’t have to watch it)
disclaimer: if you do want to watch it for whatever reason, please don’t pay for it, find a way to pirate it, don’t give jeff bezos any of your money. If you did really like it i totally respect that, i hope you enjoy it, these are just my personal opinions.
things i did like:
the worldbuilding and set design is gorgeous, on par with the movies and i’d tentatively say the cgi is better than the hobbit trilogy. If that’s the kind of thing you’re interested in, i’d say it’s worth a watch. However, you’d probably waste less time by googling screenshots
the dwarves are DELIGHTFUL. they’re a little different than Hobbit movie or Lotr dwarves, but they feel like Tolkien dwarves and they have a ton of personality and charisma. Disa is gorgeous and hilarious. And while she doesn’t have a beard, she does have sideburns that you couldn’t really see in the promo pics of her. (the dwarves don’t show up until episode 2 tho). They were probably my favorite part of the show so far.
The girl they cast to play Nori is super adorable and cute. The actors in general for the hobbits are very charming even if they look horrifically stinky and filthy.
Morfydd clark doesn’t exactly feel or look like galadriel, but she does feel like an elf (unlike all the other elves in this show). If you forget she’s supposed to be galadriel she’s cool to watch even though the elves in this show are, in general, absurd. She’s clearly a good actor even though you can tell the directing on her part wasn’t great, there’s a lot of Very Dramatic squinting and Staring on her part and she has some ridiculous lines.
I actually really like the guy playing elrond. He also does feel like an elf and although he looks like a fancy hobbit, he’s the only one in the show i feel like is trying to be the character from the books he was cast as. If they did better stuff with his makeup and hair he could really be great. Idk maybe season 2 they’ll give him better hair or some Fenty diamond veil.
the elves’ (regular) costumes actually look a lot better on screen than they do in promo pics. Not super elfy, but enough of a fancy king-arthur feel for me to give it a pass. Much better than house of the dragon costumes (so far) or most of the non-important costumes in game of thrones.
things i didn’t like:
hoo boy.
i Mean i could go on and on about what the HELL were they thinking with the elves. Maybe not all the elves in the hobbit movies or lotr looked super elfy themselves (craig parker ily but you do look like A Dad) but the nasty looking short hair?
Tumblr media
neo-n@zi style undercuts?
Tumblr media
 If they were going to do short hair they could have tried something. Idk. more romantic looking? or like cherub curls or soft floaty waves? there is so much hairspray in those elves’ hair. The ears are massive, thick and ugly looking. Their Token Diverse Elf guy is, other than galadriel’s brother, the only sort of unusual looking one to be passably cast as an elf but either he is a very bad actor or he was Very badly directed. His lines are awful. He’s supposed to be in love with this human chick but there is nothing about how they met, why they like each other, what they have in common, anything. No chemistry whatsoever. He’s also got a very stupid, plastic-looking costume.
Also. They cast maybe the strangest oatmeal faced dudes they could find in britain as elves. What is this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The elves armor is very stupid looking. Plain plate armor that is a matte grey for some reason, which i assume was to give it a softer look but really just ended up looking like it was spray painted, same with the chain mail they have under the armor.
so much of this show had me going “wait, WHAT? why is that happening?” i knew this was mostly made up and wouldn’t have a lot directly from the silm or appendicies, but just trying to understand it narratively was baffling. They reference all these things they never explain.
Galadriel talks about all the people she lost that the orcs / morgoth took from her but all you get is a seconds long scene of her looking at her dead brother. None of these other multitudes of people she’s lost are mentioned. A lot of stuff happens like this, just some character being like “oh this happened so thats why i have Emotional Damage,” and just moving on without any explanation. No chance to really get to know the characters, apart from a little bit with galadriel and she has very little backstory other than being Full of Need For Revenge.
WHY ARE THE HOBBITS SO DIRTY. WHY.
Tumblr media
they clearly know how to live off the land and build things, they’re not anywhere far away from water, but they are just COVERED with dirt and their hair is matted and absolutely nasty, their clothes are stained with sweat, their teeth are super yellow. they all look disgusting and i have no clue why. All the hobbits having an irish accent and there being a decent number of brown people among them unlike the elves or humans but them looking so gross feels Bad like a microaggression. but like i said in another post since I’m white and also not irish i feel like this isn’t something that’s my place to break down and discuss. The whole time they looked so gross that i was just cringing. They do act like hobbits tho.
Just random plot threads and scenes that were so bizarre and cliche that they didn’t need to put in when there’s So much more interesting things to pull from in the appendicies. Sauron apparently leaves this Mark everywhere that looks like a trident and the elves just DON’T KNOW what it means.
Tumblr media
why is sauron marking his victims like a serial killer? Why are there orcs poisoning cattle? why the hell did bronwyn’s son find that orc sword / morgoth’s sword / sauron’s sword or whatever? These are plot threads that are obviously put in there to make it supposedly interesting, but they’re all overused tropes from other stuff that afaik aren’t related to/established by anything that happens in silm or lotr, while they could have used so many other interesting things from the text instead. It feels VERY geared towards like, 8-12 year olds, but way too slow for them. Some things they rushed through, while other scenes, especially dialogue scenes with the humans, just dragged on without really giving any interesting information or character development.
there was this whole scene with galadriel escaping a sea monster for some reason which didn’t make sense, i don’t see why we could have seen more of her backstory instead, but i mean peter jackson did that kind of thing pretty often in lotr and the hobbit so whatever. It wasn’t actually even that interesting of a fight and they didn’t even show more than a fin either which was kind of disappointing.
galadriel being a Girlboss full of Revenge. I guess there’s ways to do that that i could have believed but it’s just So dramatic i just kept grimacing the whole time. Since she’s the main character pretty much, this doesn’t help. Opening with her as a very dour looking child building a boat out of paper was a really strange choice.
the “diversity” being all talk and no substance. Wild to me that amazon went to all that trouble to toot their own horn about diversity and piss off the racists and then didn’t actually bother. Yeah there’s brown hobbits, and a few brown dwarves. Galadriel’s company that she commands is 100% white and male. I saw maybe one east asian person. The border guards where the love struck elf guy works are all men. The dwarves with speaking roles are men other than Disa.
it’s bizarre, it’s all over the place, the lines sound like generic fantasy rpg #28, only a couple of them were actually taken from the text, it’s a sausage fest, the elves suck. The dwarves are cool and the one thing that really feels like Tolkien in the whole show. The worldbuilding is pretty. The music is kind of nice but not really noticeable. It has very little resemblance to anything middle-earthy, it’s very juvenile, and very boring. anyway. That’s about it.
Always Watching: Part 2
[see Part 1] The Directly-Overhead camera angle is Sauron's camera angle. (I had to omit the reference Eye shot, because I totally missed another very important shot [which you will see at the end], and I've hit my gif limit. But it is in Part 1 twice, so GO LOOK AT IT. lol)
Sauron literally watched the making of the Rings, but he saw far more than that.
In the same sequence in Episode 8, He watched Elrond investigate 'what happened by that stream'.
Tumblr media
Now he knows about Elrond's suspicion. But is this sequence the only time we see this camera angle?
No.
Episode 4: The Great Wave
Galadriel: "So, by your standards, I am in this cell, because I am yet to identify what the Queen most fears?"
Sauron: "My very low standards, yes."
Galadriel: "And I suppose you did, having met her for all of a few moments?"
Little does Galadriel know about the Eye of Halbrand. He watched Míriel in her dream. Not only does he know her fear, but he knows about Númenor's future.
Tumblr media
After that conversation, he watched Galadriel in the Palantir.
Tumblr media
At the end of the episode, he watched Míriel and Pharazôn as the petals of the White Tree fell.
Tumblr media
In the same sequence, he woke Tar-Palantir up for a staring contest.
Tumblr media
[Miriel: "Is our valor confined to the graves of our slumbering fathers?"]
The shot immediately following shows Sauron gleefully walking away. He sure is a fan of mocking and taunting people. "Look who's here, and guess who can't do anything about it."
Tumblr media
[Míriel: "Or is it here, amongst us, even now?"]
It is no wonder that in the next episode, Tar-Palantir sits on the bed in defeat.
Tar-Palantir: "The Kingdom! The Kingdom is in danger!"
Míriel: "The danger is past, father. We are doing now what you always believed we must. We're restoring our connection with the Elves. I'm going to Middle-earth. :)"
Tumblr media
Tar-Palantir: "Míriel. […] Don't go to Middle-earth. All that awaits you there is […] darkness."
We are going out of order, but there is so much more.
Episode 7: The Eye
He saw more than what Elrond and Dúrin IV saw. (wait for it)
Tumblr media
He watched Dúrin III throw the leaf into the mountain. (wait for it)
Tumblr media
He followed the leaf down the cracks of the mountain, to the fellow servant of Morgoth.
Tumblr media
We now see that he knows about all of that already. But we are not done yet.
Episode 3: Adar
In the scene after his fight in the alley, Sauron watched as Galadriel discovered the meaning of his own symbol.
Tumblr media
Galadriel: "It is as Halbrand said."
Tumblr media
Galadriel: "If Sauron has indeed returned, the Southlands are but the beginning." [the music: "Nampat burzum-ank." Death into darkness.]
Tumblr media
He absolutely knows what Galadriel found in the Hall of Lore. What does that say about his behavior, later in the same episode?
Galadriel: "How fares the quest for peace?"
Sauron: "Better than expected."
Tumblr media
Galadriel: "You are more than you claim."
Tumblr media
"I found this in the Hall of Lore."
Tumblr media
There is yet more. Does he need to be absent to see things from a Bird's Eye View?
No.
But first, in Episode 4: The Great Wave …
Sauron: "I wouldn't advise that."
Pharazôn: "I can't very well let her leave."
Sauron: "You could, if you knew exactly where she was going."
Tumblr media
What was discussed after the cameras cut?
In Episode 5, Pharazôn told Kemen: "It's folly to kick against the current. […] But the trick of mastering the current is to know which way it will turn next." That is exactly what "you could if you knew exactly where she was going" means. [master = red flag word. Abort mission; get out while you still can.]
So, we know that Sauron either planted that idea, or explained it to Pharazôn, outright.
In addition, that is the approach that Sauron takes with every conflict in the whole season. This leads us to another time we see Sauron watching.
Episode 2: Adrift
To everyone on the raft, he urged, "Be still!" Then, he watched from above, to see where the Worm was going.
Tumblr media
As he 'washed' his hair, he watched. Why? He was probably keeping an Eye out for danger (he is a target, still).
Tumblr media
Hence the shifty eyes in the very next shot.
Tumblr media
And what does that say about him watching Galadriel pull him onto the raft, after he saved her from drowning? (he is a target, still; gotta keep an Eye out).
Tumblr media
But those are not the only overhead shots in all eight episodes. No, no. Sauron was watching before we even met him.
Earlier in Episode 2, he watched Bronwyn and Arondir in Hordern, and saw what the Orcs were doing. (wait for it)
Tumblr media
(notice the eye shape while Arondir is holding the torch, leading to the overhead shot)
So, not only do we know that the Key and the Dam was originally a plan conjured by Sauron himself (Adar using it for his own purposes), but he knows of Bronwyn and Arondir's existence. After seeing that the trench-digging is under way, Sauron knows what Adar is up to. That sheds a whole new light on this exchange:
Míriel: "And where did the Enemy head next?"
Tumblr media
Sauron: "Further south, I should think. Towards the watchtower of Ostirith." (Because, you know, Sauron knows where the dam has to be unlocked. Speaking of which … )
Episode 6: Udûn
Right after being hailed King of the Southlands, Sauron saw who unlocked the dam, without his permission. (Oh, you better believe Waldreg is in trouble; and not just for swearing fealty to Adar.)
Tumblr media
Earlier in the episode, he saw Arondir try to destroy the key.
Tumblr media
Finally, remember when Sauron said this? "A sea that you were on because the Elves cast you out! They cast you out for deigning to beg them for a few, petty soldiers! What will they do when you tell them that you were my ally? When you tell them that Sauron lives because of you?" (1x08)
We think, Oh, of course he must have figured it out at some point. But as luck would have it, he knows a lot more, a lot sooner than we think. Like I said before, he was watching even before we met him.
Episode 1: A Shadow of the Past
Galadriel: "This mark's very existence proves Sauron escaped. He's still out there. The question now is where! [Right above you.] I intend to ask of the King a fresh company. If he supplies enough to—"
Elrond: "You have only just arrived! […]"
Galadriel: […] "I am not some courtier to be placated by idle flattery. I demand to speak with the King directly."
Elrond: "You have made that plain. So, I will be equally plain. It was not your company who defied you out there. But rather you who defied the High King, by refusing to heed any limit placed upon you. In an act of magnanimity, he has chosen to honor your accomplishments, rather than dwell upon your insolence. [Like Sauron will in the end.] Test him again, and you may find him less receptive than you might have hoped."
Sauroncam:
Tumblr media
Again, if you have not yet read Chapter 4 on my blog, please do so. These last two shots nearly made me jump out of my seat.
The Boat.
(I have not finished Chapter 6 yet, but it will be done very soon. In that chapter, we will explore the story of Beren and Lúthien, and how it perfectly parallels Halbrand and Galadriel [meaning they're the same, but also completely opposite]. Look at this, read Chapter 6 when it is published, then come back.)
Sauron watched as Galadriel was sailing off to Valinor.
Tumblr media
The very moment he saw that his precious Golden Ticket to Power was about to cross the border …
Tumblr media
… he called to her, and pulled her back.
Tumblr media
When Patrick said, "It's all there," I didn't realize just how true that statement was. All of this makes Sauron even more creepy.
In a future post, I want to thoroughly analyze every one of these shots, what they mean, and how they affect the rest of the story. I am not a pro gif-maker, but I will do my best to include higher-quality gifs (and stills) on my blog, so that you can look at them more closely and analyze them for yourself. :) The music has an enormous role to play in all of this, but I will save that for the blog as well. Consider Chapter 4 a warm-up. It is only going to get more mind-blowing from here.
Update:
WHOOPS! Missed one.
Galadriel: "Year gave way to year. Century gave way to century. And for many Elves, the pain of those days passed out of thought and mind. More and more of our kind began to believe that Sauron was but a memory, and the threat, at last, was ended. I wish I could be one of them."
Hello?
Tumblr media
This wasn't just an intro to Galadriel. Sauron was right there from the beginning.
more in my Silmaril Saga of Scholomance
The first problem is the people on horses pointing swords at them.
The second problem is that the language they speak is totally unfamiliar.
And the soldier-cosplayers don't speak English. Or Swahili, or Spanish, or any other language Elrond speaks.
(The third problem is that Elros has now picked up how to say "I'm sorry, we're very lost. Do you have a phone to call our parents?" in half a dozen languages. He hopes the Scholomance doesn't give him spells in all of them - though at least Elrond will be there to help him out.)
It's still very clear that the people with swords are suspicious of Elros and Elrond.
They initially gesture for the twins to dump their bags right there on the muddy path.
Elros mimes losing things in the grass, and then gestures at the castle. He gestures dumping the bags.
There's a bit of conversation among the people with swords, but they eventually nod, and agree that the twins can empty the bags at the castle.
It's not as good as getting to actually keep their possessions, but it gives them a chance of recovering the things they'll desperately need to survive.
(Although Elrond has never heard of an induction happening late. They might not get the Scholomance at all, just living with the Feanorians for four more years, hoping that they aren't such alluring bait for mals that Caranthir refuses to let them share a house with his son.)
(And it won't even help if their mother sends the Silmaril, in a house that's very well warded but far from the Void. They'll have the mana they earn, and as much protection as the Feanorians wish to give them. No more.)
Elrond and Elros continue up the hill, surrounded by strangers on horses pointing swords at them.
Elrond tries to be polite, and introduce himself. Even Amras had looked at Elrond less as dead weight when he started calling him by name, rather than just "one of Elwing's brats".
"Elrond." He taps his chest.
The nearest soldier laughs, but the leader looks tense.
Elrond hopes his name just sounds like a swear word in this language, not a threat or insult. He tries again. "Elrond, my name is Elrond. My brother's name is Elros." He taps Elros's chest, then points at the one who laughed - though he keeps his finger very firmly in his own personal space, far from the sword at the man's hip. "What's your name?"
"Cirmacin." And then the man shook his head and said a long sentence containing Elrond and Elros's names, and a sideways gesture that Elrond couldn't interpret but was unsettlingly near to the height of his neck.
If introducing himself was already leading to death threats, Elrond ought to keep quiet.
That just gave him more time to worry though. He tried sending messages to Elros through their rings, but then he stumbled and lost track of the dots and dashes.
Besides, there was no real way to plan, not until they knew why these people were so offended by them.
Elros's message of "Amish but older and swords" was one guess as to what was happening, but incomplete. Elrond had just replied "ears", as the idea of a cult eschewing all modern technology except plastic surgery was even stranger.
The walk to the castle was only a mile, but it took far too long. Especially as neither twin had eaten breakfast or drank water that morning.
Elrond tried etymologies to pass the time. Cirmacin didn't speak Latin, but maybe his name was in it? Or Greek?
He nearly fell over when he realized it. This man with a sword was named in the conlang that Feanor invented - named "sharp edge", even!
Had the Feanorians been teaching everyone except the twins their father's secret language? Including a band of historical reenactors with bad tempers? It made no sense!
Still, Elrond wanted his twin to know. "Name is Feanor's conlang."
Both Elrond and Elros spoke it, but Elros had studiously avoided the habit of guessing a word's root language. The number of loanwords in English made it too great a risk.
Elrond was not expecting his brother to act on the information, they just tried not to keep secrets, and two heads were better than one to figure out what was going on.
Elrond was certainly not expecting Elros to immediately ask, "I still intend to go to the castle, but can anyone understand me?" in the language the two of them had been told for years was as great a secret as the Silmaril itself.
Nor was he expecting the leader of the soldiers to draw his sword and command a halt in the same language.
"How long were you planning to keep the naive act up, little spies?"
“injured but survived.”
Tumblr media
                 Elrond x  Elven Warrior reader
words: 1855
google docs pages: 4
warnings: mentions of being injured, mentions of blood/wounds
opening: Your patrol returns but they come back without you. Your group explains to Elrond that the group had been surprised by orcs and that you had told the others to leave.
AN// Reader uses He/him
           “injured but survived”
The orcs had totally surprised you and your group. There weren’t enough of you to take them all down, and you being the leader, you had to make the final decision on what you were going to do. You could see your fellow warriors try to fight the orcs off but it was clear that you would lose if this went on any longer. You bit your teeth together for a moment, frustrated with the way this was going to play out. With a deep breath you shouted out the command. “Ndanmē! (Retreat) Go back to Imladris.” You shouted out, hoping that they would turn their horses immediately and leave. You didn’t want to risk the whole group getting killed if most of it had a chance to survive and get back alive. The elves from your patrol group looked at you for a moment but none of them said anything against your command. “Go!” You shouted again while turning your horse the other way. You took a deep breath and began to lead the orcs the other way, so the rest had a chance to retreat back.
The group returned back to the entrance where Elrond was waiting with Lindir. His gaze counted the amount of horses that had returned but it was clear that one was missing. He didn’t see you anywhere. “Where is your leader?” He asked, not showing the concern brewing within him. “Sir, he commanded us to retreat. We got surprised by orcs and there were too many of them for us.” One of the elves started. “He led the orcs away so we could return.” Another warrior continued. Elrond went quiet for a moment and before he was able to reply a white horse came through the entrance and ran towards the group that had just entered as well. “Y/n’s horse!” The elven warrior at the back exclaimed while pointing at the horse. Elrond moved his gaze to the horse, and to his horror the horse was truly yours but you weren’t on it anymore. “Send out a bigger patrol, search the area you were in and bring back Y/n. I’ll be joining the patrol myself as well.” Elrond the said after thinking the situation through. As he began to walk back to get ready for the search, Lindir took your horse and led the elves from your group to the stables.
Elrond put on his armor and got on his horse. There was now a greater number of warriors than before, all waiting for him. “Kill all the orcs that come across us and find Y/n!” He called out the command for the patrol group before tapping his calves to the horse's sides to get it to move, determined to find you alive. He had known you for thousands of years, and you knew all the secret passages back to Imladris, but he was still internally concerned. Why hadn't you returned yet? Had you gotten hurt?
It was already getting late, and the patrol had found the orcs that had surprised your patrol group, but they couldn’t find you. Elrond didn’t expect you to be out in the open either way, you wene’t that foolish. But they couldn’t find you even in the few hideouts around the place where you had been separated from your group. Elrond could see that the warriors were getting tired of this as well so he called off the patrol. He led them back to Imladris, and let them rest for the night. He himself stayed awake, patrolling the entrance with his gaze. He couldn't find it in him to allow himself to rest. He refused to believe that you had fallen in a battle like that. You weren’t the kind of person to give up so easily. And the knowledge of that kept a flame of hope aflame within him.
Whilst in his thoughts, you were struggling to make your way back home. You limped through one of the secret passages, leaning against the rocky walls to rest for a while. You wiped some blood off of your face, spitting some out at the same time. Your whole body ached but you weren’t about to give up. You had made it this far and you were going to make it back home as well. You lifted yourself off of the rocky wall and began limping forward, gritting your teeth with every step. The air was colder than during the day and it was dark already. Anyone else would have been frightened in the murky tunnel as they couldn’t see anything in the darkness of the passage, but you had been here multiple times and knew the turns of these tunnels by memory by now. You could hear the waterfalls of Imladris at the end of the tunnel and that meant that you weren’t too far away.
You continued limping, ignoring the pain almost every step caused. The orcs had really beaten you up badly, but you weren’t made out of rotten wood and couldn’t be beaten to death that easily. While biting your teeth together you took a couple more steps and the sounds of the waterfalls got even louder. You had made it home.
By limping forward, you slowly appeared from the darkness of the entrance. You walked past the two soldier statues that were guarding the entrance from intruders, collapsing onto the hard ground after getting past them. You cursed under your breath for how weak you must have looked right now, laying in the middle of the circle that you and your group had been meant to return to earlier that day. You tried to get up and walk forward, at least up the stairs, but it was no use. There was no energy left and you had sustained so many injuries while fighting off the orcs that it was no wonder you were so tired. Falling asleep then and there felt like a bessing.
While laying there, someone had noticed you. You didn’t hear them hurry towards your form because of the haze you were in. Elrond had noticed that someone had gone through the entrance and collapsed on the ground, having no doubts about it being you. He ran down the stairs and kneeled after getting closer to you. “Do not move.” Was all that he said before picking you up. You were going in and out of consciousness at this point, and because of this you had mostly no idea of what was going on.
Elrond carried you to his quarters, laying your body on to the bed carefully, not to cause any more pain. The lord of Rivendell didn’t dare to say anything so you wouldn’t start talking, you needed all the energy possible to recover from this. Even if he has multiple thoughts running through his head, wanting to be said out loud. The elf examined most of your wounds quickly and began to heal them. Carefully he tended all of your wounds that he could, wrapping them up after he was done.
 Elrond mixed a drink out of athelas and other pain relieving herbs, offering it to you carefully. “Try to get this down.” His gentle voice came through the haze as he tilted your head up a little so you wouldn’t choke. Knowing you'd only recently come back to consciousness while he'd been tending to you. Just seconds after the liquid hit your mouth you began to couch. It tasted horrible and because of your state you didn’t realise how important it was that you just pushed it down either way. Only, the coughing brought back the aches from earlier, making you close your mouth and turn away to wait for the pain to fade. “Y/n, please try.” Elrond mumbled mostly to himself, knowing that you couldn’t understand him at the moment. He propped your head further back, making sure all the liquid went down to ease the pain you were in. He knew you would have taken it without a word if only you were a little more aware of the situation, but he had patience.
Minutes and hours passed, but Elrond didn’t take his eyes off of you. He had stayed up the whole night before you had arrived and even after tending your wounds he had stayed by your side. Watching over you as you slept, mind resting at last.
 In the early hours of the morning you began to wake up. Stirring through the unconsciousness, you opened your eyes though having to close them almost straight afterwards because of the light you weren’t used to. You fought the urge to fall back asleep and pushed your eyes open even though your whole body was telling you otherwise. “Where am I?” You mumbled while trying to look around. For some reason your side sent waves of pain through your whole body every time you tried to move in any way. You saw someone turn towards you after hearing your whines. “You’re safe. You made it back home.” A familiar voice spoke up gently. A wave of relief washed over you, knowing you'd succeeded in your mission. Your gaze moved to look at the man speaking, only now fully realising that it was Elrond. You couldn’t tell what he was thinking, and because of that you didn’t dare to say anything else. Elrond only looked at you, a mixed look on his face. He wanted to explain how worried and displeased he was with you and tell you how foolish it had been to send the other back here and possibly sacrifice yourself, but that would have been selfish. Those thoughts came from a place of care towards you, not a place of leadership. He understood why you had done what you did back there. And if you had seen it as the only safe option, that was what he believed as well. He had seen you lead others, and he knew you would never in your right mind send others to danger if you knew you were going to lose. “You fought well, you made it back alive even with these wounds and a couple broken ribs.” Elrond finally spoke up, tone still calm.
His response took a weight off your shoulders, he wasn’t mad at you. You had rarely seen him mad but it was not a side you wanted to get on. “You were worried?” You teased him, even with the numbed pain you were in. “I knew you were alive, you just took longer to come back than I had anticipated.” Elrond replied calmly, mixing another drink for you from athelas. “You wanna try it and see which one of us would be faster?” You said, hiding a whine of pain by biting your teeth together after moving the wrong way. “There is no need for that, Y/n” Elrond kept his composure calm as he turned to you with a full glass. “Drink this.” He said straight after, ending the previous conversation. You furrowed your brows a little. “What’s in it?” You asked as you took the glass in your hands. “What do you assume?” Elrond tilted his head a little before sitting down on the chair that was next to the bed. You looked at Elrond and the glass a couple times before throwing your best guess. “Athelas?” Elrond nodded. “Correct.” You took a sip of the drink, tasting the bad flavour yet again, only this time you didn’t couch it up. You knew you had to drink it if you wanted to feel better. “How long will I be bed bound?” You asked after finishing the cup with a quick disgusted look. “Longer if you keep moving. The bones need a while to get back together but the wounds shouldn’t take too long to heal.” Elrond replied before standing up. “Now rest, dear Y/n. I’ll bring you food soon.” He said and exited the room, leaving you with the comfort of his bed and the sunlight of the morning.
🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction? I honestly think I was writing it/telling myself it before I even knew what fic was - I’d tell myself stories (or friends and I would play out stories) based off TV shows, books and movies and so when I came across online it was just an expansion really. (I think I was looking for X-Files or The Bill content when I first started exploring).
🍬 ⇢ post an unpopular opinion about a popular fandom character I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion but I do not believe that Elrond’s feelings about kidnap dads are/were uncomplicated. He loves them yes, but they aren’t uncomplicated. Also at least in terms of reboot!Trek I haven’t seen OG TOS I do not ship Kirk/Spock if it’s not Kirk/Spock/Uhura. This is also true with Merlin and Arthur/Merlin. Gwen has to be included for me.
What do you think was one of the first overtly romantic gestures Elrond (or Celebrían) made to the other? Flowers, poetry, a dance at a gala, etc?
Oh what a FUN question
They had so much dancing back-and-forth with gestures that could be romantic (and were absolutely, if you just knew either of them well enough) -- like Elrond leaving Cel little pebbles and seashells, and gifting her fruit and snacks. I think he was way too shy to share any of his poetry with her but he wrote a lot! And then Cel just...dressing him. There were so many outfits that she just shoved, redfaced, into his hands without so much as a thisisforyou before running away because she was too shy to say anything else! But they always fit him better than any of his other clothes, so towards the end of the second age (when he wasn't at war) Elrond was pretty much exclusively wearing things Cel had made for him.
But in terms of gestures that were overtly romantic...gosh, I don't know! I like to think that Elrond asked Cel for a lot of dances but by then they were both so thoroughly convinced that no, we're not dating, not at all, don't be ridiculous! that it totally went over her head lol and he was too shy to admit that he meant it as a date. Like I'm convinced that they managed to kiss and then both play it off like "but in a friend way, right?" aldkh they're so stupid honest to Eru I don't think either of them realized they were dating until Elrond presented her with a betrothal ring and asked if she wanted to get married.
Love your writings🤍 Would love a Frodo imagine where he has always loved Y/N. Y/N has had hardships too (not on Frodo’s level, but def still some trauma). He comes back to the Shire from healing & expresses his love for Y/N, Y/N do too. Then a proposal/wedding/wedding night (if seggsy details are permitted)?🥹
Hi :)! Thank you for requesting & thank you for being the first one to request! I hope that you like this imagine. if not, i can totally redo it if you want me to :)! PS: i'll try and add a little bit of segc moments but i won't overdo it. Lemme know if you want that to change!
Title: For All Eternity
It's been nearly eight years since Frodo left for the Undying Lands with Lord Elrond, Lady Galadriel, and Gandalf. He'd promised that he would come back, but I didn't know when. I'd spent countless days looking through the windows of Bag End (which he gave to me before he left) waiting for him to return. I spent countless nights crying because I knew that it would be years before he returned. His side of the bed that he used to sleep in when we were still dating, felt cold and empty.
I missed him desperately. It wasn't obvious. Even Sam had done everything he could to distract me from the man I loved. Merry and Pippin had done their best.
I sighed, staring up at the ceiling of the bedroom that Frodo and I once shared. I did not want to get out of bed. My thoughts kept straying towards Frodo and all the difficulties we'd gone through together. But obviously, his hurts were deeper than mine. I only had to witness what my beloved Hobbit was going through. I didn't go through what he went through. And I could tell that he was going through hell during our long, dangerous trek to Mordor.
The sound of someone knocking on the door brought me to my senses. At first, I ignored it, thinking that it was Sam coming to try and get me to be motivated during the day. Or maybe it was Merry and Pippin. They were always trying to find some way to drag me out of bed and do outdoorsy things with them. Of course I had to go with them, though reluctantly. I'd rather stay in bed all day and do nothing.
But when the knock sounded again, I groaned, grumbling to myself. I rolled out of bed and slumped towards the door. I reluctantly opened it. The first thing I saw first, obviously, was a pair of large, hairy feet. My eyes travelled to the rest of his body and finally, his face.
My eyes went wide when I saw that it was my beloved Hobbit standing in front of me. I shrieked with joy before jumping into his arms for a hug, sobbing with relief. Frodo responded and wrapped his arms safely and securely around my waist. He buried his face into the crook of my neck, sending shivers down my spine.
I missed this feeling. I missed the feeling of him being close to me. I missed hugging him whenever I got the chance.
"God, you have no idea how much I've missed you!" I breathed though excitedly, as I broke from the hug. "I thought that you'd never come back!"
"I'll always come back for you, y/n," Frodo reassured.
I examined his face. The color of his eyes were still the same. But this time, they were no longer filled with pain, sorrow, or regret. They only glowed with love. He looked healthier than he had been in years. He smiled for the first time since he left for the Valinor. Still holding his hands in mine, he got to his knees, and spoke.
"Y/n? Ever since before my adventure, and during my adventure, I'd always loved you. Even though you weren't officially there, you were the reason why I kept going. I always have. And I musk ask: Will you marry me?"
As he was speaking he pulled out something from his back pocket. And I realized that it was a ring.
Tumblr media
"YES!" I squealed excitedly. I threw my arms around his neck and jumped into his arms, almost knocking him backwards. I cried happy tears. Once I'd calmed down a little bit, he took the ring from its place and gently slid it onto my finger.
He scooped me in his arms, kissing me fiercely. I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer to me. The kiss was full of need, passion, and love. We began to plan the wedding right away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Several months after Frodo had proposed to me, it was finally the day of our wedding. We'd invited nearly everyone in the Shire (except for the Sackville-Bagginses, who'd always wanted Bag End). Even some members of the Fellowship came to celebrate with us! Unfortunately, Aragorn or Arwen couldn't make it, as they were expecting their third child any time soon, and Aragorn was incredibly busy ruling Gondor and the rest of Middle-Earth.
That day was lovely. Frodo and I said our vows to each other, promising that we would take care of each other during our difficult days. I looked him firmly in the eyes as I said my vows to him. I was scared on the inside, but I knew that my vows were what I wanted to say.
"You may kiss the bride!" the Minister said.
Our lips touched and the entire crowd cheered.
That night, we settled into Bag End. We'd finally be sharing that home together. Once we set foot on the threshold of Bag End, Frodo immediately scooped me up in his arms, carrying me bridal-style to the bedroom we'd share together for the rest of our lives.
Once we got changed into some different clothing, I immediately grabbed Frodo by the neck, and shoved him gently down onto the bed roughly, causing him to chuckle. I began to kiss him. His lips were soft and pillowy, and tasted slightly of the ale that we had drunk during the feast. The kiss felt cautious and tentative. But gradually, it began to get rough and full of need, and he flipped the both of us over so that he was on top, and I was on the bottom.
His hands slipped underneath the hem of my shirt. His cold hands felt nice against my skin. I gasped lightly and arched my back a little bit. I then began to fumble at the buttons of his shirt with shaking hands, exposing his bare chest. My eyes examined the scars that were left on his body since the quest.
Frodo noticed my stares, and immediately became insecure. He tried to hide his scars by wrapping his shirt around himself, but I only stopped him, pulling his hands away.
"Don't," I whispered, forcing his hands away from his shirt. "You don't have to be embarrassed about your scars, love. It means that you've survived. It means that you're strong."
Frodo blushed at my comment, and bent down, as to kiss me. He kissed me ferociously, causing me to moan slightly. I made sure to kiss each of his scars, letting him know that I was there for him, and that his hard days were over.
Frodo gave me a look of adoration. Tears of relief came to his eyes and he bent down to kiss me again. I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer.
I reached over to grab the candle snuffer. Frodo began to pull the covers over us. I snuffed out the candles and Frodo pulled the covers completely over our heads.
***So sorry if the ending was crappy! Lemme know if you want me to redo it!***
***Update: I hope that this is a bit more of what you hoped for, anonymous! Thanks again for requesting!***
🌶️?
(drop a 🌶️ and optionally a character/subject in my inbox and I’ll respond with a Tolkien spicy opinion!)
this one is a free shot SO I’m going to dive right in with something definitely controversial – I actually enjoyed the Rings of Power show! With caveats because I’m not insane. In fact, the first couple of episodes are what made me reread the silm and get into the fandom in the first place, for which reason I’m very grateful.
Things I like about the show: the location shots are very pretty, Númenor looks gorgeous. Elrond is very precious and I love his friendship with Dúrin (not a huge fan of the oath-swearing though especially how he totally broke his oath but everyone was acting as though he kept it??). Elendil is awesome. Isildur is a whiny brat but kind of sweet at the same time so I’m fine with that? Although if they call him “Isil” one more time I may stab someone. Most controversially, I like ROP Galadriel – or rather, I don’t like her, which is a good thing. She’s ridiculously proud and prickly and imperfect, which is much more interesting than the pure and wonderful moral centre she’s sometimes portrayed as.
Things I didn’t like: the pacing is terrible, it makes no sense to forge the three rings first instead of last, the Harfoot storyline is dull and pointless, for some reason Galadriel is treated by other characters like an annoying child instead of the immensely old and powerful member of the House of Finwë she is, the mithril subplot is so stupid. Among many lore inaccuracies, the one that bugs me the most is that for some reason every elf speaks Quenya? Even the Silvan elves?? Thingol is rolling in his grave??? (Actually maybe that’s a good thing tbh I support most things that annoy Thingol)
Things I can’t forgive it for: WHAT DID YOU DO TO TYELPË. This one is particularly egregious bc when I watched the show I barely knew anything about him and didn’t care! Then I read more about the Fall of Eregion and I was like. my baby. And they ruined him!! He’s just kind of this vaguely mean and vaguely stupid guy! And the whole Annatar storyline is gone so ???
Overall, though, I’m very grateful that watching the show inspired me to get back into Tolkien and actually join the silm fandom! And, despite my reservations, I’ll watch season 2.
Into the House of Elrond Gandalf Goes
a/n: This is part 3 of my Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Phish fan fiction. It's getting a lot more serious in tone haha
Tumblr media
================================================
Gandalf steps out into the soft grass leading away from the concert venue. He hears cheers as the band comes out. He quickens his pace, not particularly happy to have to miss a good show, but nonetheless unwilling to risk the corrupting influence of Evil Trey's awesome licks.
Gandalf walked past his own van, a 1991 Toyota Previa, sitting in the parking lot, knowing he could not drive it as it would draw too many unwanted eyes. He begrudgingly sold it on the lot to a strung out hippie for a week's worth of grilled cheese sandwich rations. Gandalf slipped out on foot unnoticed by the sentries of Voldemort that now patrolled the lots at the behest of Evil Trey, selling nitrous to anyone who was desperate enough for it and causing no small amount of trouble at the drop of a hat. "No doubt the influence of Sauron caused that one!" scoffed Gandalf.
So Gandalf journeyed over many days and lands far and wide, coming ever closer to Rivendell, the land of Elrond the Wise. Gandalf knew that Sauron would stop at nothing short of total domination of Middle Earth. Wise as he was, he still could not see all ends, and needed the help of the very best counsel he could conjure.
================================================
As he arrived in Rivendell, Gandalf was welcomed with warm smiles, but he could see behind the mask of friendliness, there was a certain warriness. It was as if the elves already knew why he had come, or at least that it was no pleasure visit to the land of Elrond.
"Come elf-friend Gandalf, we have a seat prepared for you at our feast." a welcoming elf said, adding "Elrond will meet you when he is ready to do so."
"Very well, though this matter is urgent and cannot wait much longer," Gandalf said "I'm afraid that this matter is of the upmost importance. It concerns the black keeps of the Dark Lord."
A look of of terror flashed in the elf's eyes, but was soon replaced once more by a friendly smile. "Very well," the elf said, "right this way."
================================================
As Gandalf sat at the table, finishing the last of his elven wine. He had eaten enough to feed 3 elves at least, having had naught but old grilled cheeses from the lot for the last 10 days.
Hearing quiet footsteps behind him, Gandalf stood from his chair and bowed to the esteemed figure of Elrond, the wisest amongst the elves, whom even the greatest wizards seek the counsel of.
"Gandalf," Elrond said with a smile, "to what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Elrond my dear friend, I'm afraid that i am not here at my own leisure." Gandalf said with a worried frown.
"What troubles you, friend Gandalf?"
"It is Trey Anastasio. I believe that he is under the influence of the Dark Lord Sauron himself." Gandalf said heavily.
Elrond turned his head dismissively, "You know I left this life behind me after the 2.0 years. How do I know that the Phish community has not just soured on its own once more, like milk left to spoil?"
"This is not that. Those were dark times, yes, but these stand to be far worse than even Coventry." Gandalf said forebodingly. Gandalf went on to explain everything that had happened.
"Very well, Gandalf. What would you have me do?"
"I need your help friend, advice. What power do we now possess that can break the hold on Evil Trey's mind and break him from his mental prison which he now resides?" Gandalf asked.
Elrond thought for a few moments before turning to Gandalf, "I may have an idea," he said slowly. "But it will require some… subterfuge."
Gandalf raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
Elrond started with a serious look in his eyes, "On Durin's Day, the last day of your Autumn, we elves celebrate our alliance with the Dwarves of the north."
Gandalf interjected, "I hardly see how tha-"
"If you'll allow me to continue," Elrond said sharply, raising an eyebrow, "each year we host a festival of bands from across Middle Earth in a celebration of cultural diversity. It would not be unconventional for us to book a musical act from the world of men."
"I see," Gandalf said, thinking it over, "and they won't find this suspicous?"
"I would think that playing this far in the heart of elven territory too bold for even Sauron, but they may credulous enough to think that their evil jams will turn the hearts of elves. It may seem a tempting victory waiting to be snatched from us before the war has even begun." Elrond considered.
"Very well then," Gandalf said slowly, "it is decided. Phish will headline Durin'sFest. It is not without risk, but I trust your judgement, Elrond. We must act quickly if we are to save Trey."
================================================
As the day of Durin'sFest neared, preperations underwent for the festival. Already, the campgrounds were starting to fill and stages being built. Countless food stands were set up, selling anything from Lembas bread bratwursts to potato and rabbit stew.
As the day drew nearer, Gandalf grew restless. He thought of his tour buddies and wondered then how many of the had already been lost, either succumbed to the darkness of Phish's new evil jams, or been killed at the hands of Lord Voldemort's nitrous mafia. He wept for his friends, but held out hope that he could, at the very least, save his favorite band from the clutches of Sauron.
rings of power episode 1 thoughts: A Shadow of the Past
didn’t watch trailers or such, so this is completely cold
music is good at least.
“Nothing is evil in the beginning”
Time before sunrise with light??? we get a Trees references
Is that little Galadriel. Ears seem to indicate that elves
Swan boat! Stone boys are Feanor or his sons.
 I bet so. Knew it.
Remind me, which of her brothers is this? Guesses Finrod. Coolness.
Which light to follow? ooo... so sweet. I wanna know what he told her
Hill of Slain!
Galadriel is very good at giving exposition. I totally believe this is young Cate Blanchett.
Oh evil castle! And the determination seems very  ‘driven by the fire of our hears’. And like, she’s so determined she does not necessarily heed council, also  very Noldo of her.
Sauron’s emblem
Trees. Light of the Trees. eeeh!
Big ice orc! Vrrr Does it have extra fire vulnerability?
Calling it now, Galadriel is the only survivor of this group
They’ve got to make orcs scary and how better to do that then with red shirts?
Hidden village? Very cool. They have books!
THEY ARE LITERATE! OOOOH
Hobbits, but possibly not Harfoots. It’s hard to tell size without proportion.
Nori is too dwarfish a name for my taste, but it works a bit. Berries. Okay, yeah, these are hobbits. Only hobbits would be introduced with berries.
Liar! That is so not a dog.
wARGS.wARGS.
ELF runes. mIGHT WE HAVE  a reintroduction of rumil? That would be cool? Elrond.
“elf-lords only?” Please tell me we’re not getting Galadriel Elrond romance. That’s just too weird.
 Lindon. Elvish! Too quick to tell if Quenya or Sindarin.
Elrond’s chin is very distracting.  Okay, who is king of Lindon at this point. Wait, not king of Lindon. Lindon is just a city. But who is high king at this point? Celebrimbor?
So, Harfoots.  ‘what else is out there’ hmm, I know that plotline, but they might make it work. It’s only the first episode.
Lindon is very elven. I like it.
So it’s not a coronation--which rather confused me--it’s more of a laurels situation.
Well, I can guess who’s not taking that offer. Passage to the Undying Realms--not for her.
Galadriel is Elrond’s  mother-in-law, not girlfriend. But I want to hear her reasoning.
WAITING for the  “sweet summer child” memes with Galadriel and Elrond.
He’s got some good points. Which is good. I like double-sided arguments.
Here we go. She is afraid that she would not fit back in Valinor.
Very Tolkien-sounding.
“My friend.” awww
And now, the Men!
I think the men? Show me some ears?
That one top looks too like a tank top, but once she puts something on over it.
(You see how varied my thoughts are).
He’s an elf. She’s human. At least, I think so. I need a closer look at her ears. Good.  Human.
“Beauty has great power to heal soul.”
Shirtless dude is so... like, modern but just, there is always gonna be a shirtless guy.
Fredric? Sort of human name.  “I think you talk too much. And you smell of rotten leaves.” New favorite insult.
Okay, two elf-human pairings.  Tuor and Idril; Beren and Luthien.  Suppose the one from Morgoth’s Ring was kept secret or well enough.
Elf and human.... again,  *Waves hand uncommittedly* not sure about it.
So, returning to ‘peace’ after war. Hmmm. Potential.
Do we have a name for this girl? Or shall I just call her Firiel, after the poem?
very much not  getting along, then.
A man? or a Man. That is an odd looking cow. Maybe it’s bloated? Look, my dad’s a veterinarian, of course I wonder about cattle illnesses.
So, wait, she’s his mother, not sister. She looks more like a sister tha mother. That boy’s ten or so, but she looks younger than me.”
Morgul blade? music seems to think so. Oh, sauron symbol. Not good.
SHIPS! Shipses! Is this a Valinor-bound vessel. But we know she doesn’t--
Who’s gold robe? What did he do? I’m confused. What did Elrond ‘do’ that he might regret?
Gold-robe is not Celebrimbor. Celebrimbor is green-robe.
I wanna see this book.
Satic--the sage.   She looks much younger there.
Elves must have a hard time distinguishing between generations... not in the you-are-your-father sense, but in the your-father-was-loyal once sense.
. removing the armor, ooh. i like it
a straight way lay westward, now all ways are bent.
Does she reject, or is she rejected
If the latter, it would explain why she lingered yet into the third age.
What might the west mean for those who had never been, versus the Exiles.
Meteor man? Meteor man?
“SOMETIMES we cannot know until we have touched the darkness” Very Felix Culpa there
And there we have it, episode one.
