You are my home.
Introduction: this is my first writing on here. Bare with me.
Summary: you are a new member of the team after tony finds you in a hydra raid. You are shy, reserved, and not very talkative at first until you realize the team is not going to hurt you. Once comfortable you show them your powers and fall for a certain super soldier, again.
I used google translate for words in Russian, so if the words are wrong. I apologize.
In my writing, no one is dead.
Pairing: bucky x reader, everyone else is platonic.
Genre: fluff, anguish, mentions of torture, blood.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am crouched in the conner,on the floor of my cell waiting for the guards to come get me. My daily training. More like torture.
They make me train as hard as I can and if they think I am slaking, I get a few thousand jolts of electricity shot through my body. Or even a few punches.
Yesterday was one of the worst days so far, that I can remember. I was getting random images flash inside my head, almost from a past life from what I saw, which made me loose focus quite a bit. In return the men who watch me train were heavy with the electricity jolts and even harder punches, anywhere they could land on my body. So, I was not looking forward to today's training.
I don't have a clock or windows in my cell but I knew every time they would come to get me. Like my body knew the exact moment every day. So when that time came and I was still in my cell I was growing a little worry. They are never late, sometimes early, but never late. Just then a siren rang out and the lights dimmed then went red. Was that the alarm for an intruder? How is that possible?
As a million thoughts ran through my head at what could possibly cause the alarm to go off. A very vivid picture or memory came to me and played on repeat. It looked to be the 40's, on a dock or a pier, I was laughing and looking out at the water. There were two guys with me. One was small, blonde hair, blue eyes, and had a small smile on his face. The second was bigger then the first, had brown hair, bright blue eyes, and laughing with me. Why do they look familiar? Why do I have two names on the tip of my tongue? Who are they? Just as I was about to say those names my cell door was blown off and there was a cloud of dust.
As the dust settles and I can properly see, there is a man in a red and gold suit of metal. He walks towards me as he says "Cap we got someone here. She looks no older then 24, covered in bruises, and looks terrified.""Yes, I'll make sure to get her out.""No, I can't tell if she is dangerous." He sighs and crouches down so he can look me in the eyes.
"Hi, I am Tony Stark, and I am going to take you away from here." Tony says and offers me a hand. I take it cautiously and follow him out the door and eventually outside.
Once we made it outside I take a deep breath. It felt so good to get clean air. I don't even remember the last time I was outside. Must have been years. I had to shield my eyes, it was so bright out. I didnt notice more people joining us. I was to busy looking at my hands and arms. Was I always this pale? I look up at the guy who took me away, Tony, and then darkness.
Tony catches me before I could hit the floor and runs into the jet. He lays be on a table and Bruce starts an examination. Nobody dared bother him. Nat hands Tony a flash drive and sits back down with the others.
While I was unconscious and now in the medbay at the compound, I was getting more images. Some are to fast to register what it was and some stayed a good while showing me a life I do not remember, but wish I did. Also things I did, hurting people, a chair, and training. It was all to much. To much pain, suffering, lose. I could feel myself have a panic attack. Which alerted everyone.
I jolted up into a sitting position clenching my chest and taking big gasps of air. My heart monitor going off like crazy. I looked around frantically, not recognizing where I was. I tried to rip out the Iv's but a pinching sensation in my shoulder makes me stop. I look up and see a women, before I am unconscious again.
Meanwhile in the common area Tony, Steve, Natasha, Wanda, Sam, Clint, Vision, Bucky, Bruce, Thor, Loki, Scott, and Peter all sat around looking at my file.
"Her name is y/n, y/ln. She was born in 1918, lived in Brooklyn, New York. Was taken by Hydra in 1946 while she was working on a S.H.I.E.L.D mission. Hasn't been seen since. Until about 2001 when she was spotted riding a motorcycle from a crime scene. Looked to be an assassination. Then again in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2012 and the last time in 2014. So the last time was 7 years ago. It shows she was trained like the winter soldier, but never met one another. But her powers got out of control and they have been training her to keep them in control since 2014. She has assassinated 6 men, 4 women, 2 children, and 1 hydra agent in a training gone wrong on that one." Tony reads outloud to everyone.
Steve and Bucky look at each other with a look in their eyes, as if they can't believe it. Then Tony brings up a picture of me for the group to see. Everyone gasps as a few photos show up. One is me, Steve, and Bucky at Coney Island. Then one of me and Bucky smiling at each other. Then there is one of me and Peggy Carter. Once all pictures are shown, all eyes are on Steve and Bucky.
"You know her?" Asked Natasha. Everyone silently asking the same thing.
"Yes, we know her. She was our friend. She grew up with us. She was our best friend. And a little more to Bucky." Steve answers quietly, looking at Bucky. It has been 78 years since he has seen her.
As they tell the others about me and what they remember, I am waking up again at the medbay. This time more calm. The nurses and doctors where asking me questions but I wouldn't answer them. They could tell they were not going to get anywhere with me, they called Tony and Bruce. I still would not talk to them.
How could I trust them? I don't even know them. For all I know they could be Hydra as well. With all these images popping up I don't even know what to believe anymore. Both men were throwing question after question at me. I didnt know how to answer. Or if I even should. Once they realized they were not going to get anywhere they left.
By the time I got the okay from the doctors, I was put inside a cell. Something I am all to familiar with. But this one was clean, had a comfortable bed, running water, and was warm. All the walls were glass and I could see people standing around watching me. Two I kinda recognized due to the images that I get. Each one would ask a question, each time I just stared ahead.
"We want to help you." A women with red and blonde hair spoke up after a few minutes of silence. I laughed.
"You want to help me? You don't even know me. How can you help me?" I responded quietly.
"Wanda has some powers and is able to look inside your head. Put the pieces together for you. Help you remember." The same women responded looking at another women with red hhai. I am guessing is Wanda.
"We read your file, y/n, let us help you remember the things they have taken from you." Tony says as he walks around. I don't respond, just look at everyone.
They gave up after 3 hours of silence from me and them asking questions. They leave me alone until a few days later. For those days they would bring me food, check to see if I am okay, then leave. It was Wanda, Tony, Bruce, and Steve that came a few days later. I watch them as they open the door to my cell and take a seat on a bench.
"If you are okay with this, we would like to try something. It does involve bringing back everything Hydra took from you. It might be painfull. But we think you should have the choice in remembering your life."Tony speaks up after a few minutes of silence.
Do I trust these people to try and help me? Do I even want the help? To remember all the pain I have caused and I life I will never get back.
I look at the four people in front of me and when I looked at the blonde man named Steve a memory came to me. It was just us two in a tent that looked to be on a base of some sort. He was the way he is now bigger then the other one I have seen. As if he grew or got on steroids. He was telling me about someone but it was fuzzy but I had this feeling of sadness.
I take a big breath in and look at them. "What do I have to lose? Not like I am going anywhere anytime soon." I tell them as I look at my hands.
I didnt see Tony nod at the door but did hear it open. I look up to see a young girl, with a different wardrobe then the others. She smiles kindly at me as she sits next to Wanda.
"Hi, my name is Shuri. I am from Wakanda and I can help you remember." I just stare at her.
"How long will this take?" I ask quietly.
"Depends on the damage they have caused for you to forget everything. Could be a few days, weeks, months. If you have trigger words. We will make.."
"Trigger words? What does that mean?" I interrupt her.
"Words that change you into a different person. Like they did witht he winter soldier. When we got the files from the base you were held in, shows you do have some." Tony says to me.
"Oh, so then I guess we should start this thing." I tell them. They did not expect me to say that.
They step out of my cell and start to say 6 words in Russian.
"девять- nine"
"машина-car"
"цветок-flower"
At this word I started to feel a crawling sensation run across my skin. I started to blink rapidly, my vision was getting foggy.
"слива-plum"
"банан-banana"
Now I'm rolling my shoulders, flexing my hands, shaking my head. That crawling sensation is getting thicker, heavier.
"рок-rock"
Once that last word was said I stand up, look at them with a blank expression, and cock my head to the side a little. "готов подчиниться- ready to comply."
They ready the words and I am me again. Well the shell of me that I know. I sit on the bed and take deep breaths. I did not like the feeling of having no control.
They watch me before they leave me alone for a little bit. I don't remember those words but it felt like my body did and it hurt badly.
As i sit and then pace and sit again for I don't know how long, everyone else is in the common area trying to figure out what to do next.
"Her words are different from Bucky's, why?" Same asks as they watch me in my cell.
"They made the words unique for that person. Hers are more girly because she is a girl and what she likes. They make it so only one person gets triggered and not all at once." Bucky says with a frown.
As they continue to talk and see the next step. I am going a little crazy in my cell. I started to throw everything that I could, I tried breaking the walls, the floor. I was screaming, crying, and bleeding. No one knew of my powers because it was not put in any files. So when I fall to my knees and scream everything shuts down and I pass out.
Once the lights were out, they were up and running to my cell. As people in the building were trying to get the power back on.
When they get to me I was laying on the floor and covered in some weird goo. That started right as I hit the floor. Bruce went to check if I was okay and when he tried to check my pulse he got shocked. He steps away and goes to the others.
"This is not in her file, didnt show if she had powers or not. Why would they do that?" Natasha says as the nurses come in hazmat suits.
"Because she is more dangerous then we thought." Steve says sadly.
That is part 1. Possibly a part two.
Summary: Prince Loki of Asgard is in need of a date to take back home. That’s where you come in with a task of your own to make the whole trip with an insufferable prince worth it. Too bad that things don’t always go as planned and you end up giving more than you can take. Fake-Dating AU.
A/N: A little backstory for ya which ends with a pleasant surprise! Shoot me a message if you’ll like to be tagged!
Hela-Avenger Masterlist
Loki takes you on a tour of the royal garden. You knew he wasn’t doing it out of the kindness of his princely heart. He wanted more than you already gave him and you wondered what it could possibly be. Loki knew that you knew something was up and so he decided to just get ahead of it.
“I have questions,” Loki states. “Questions pertaining to you and your half-immortal life.”
“Oh, so now you want to get to know me,” you sneer at him. “Funny how things change.”
“Now that I know you’re not completely mortal, I find you interesting enough to actually want to,” Loki remarks sensing your annoyance immediately. “So let’s start shall we? How old are you?”
“I’m sure that question is rude to ask a woman in every realm in this universe,” you point out, earning a scoff from him. “But fine, I’m… I’m about 198 years old.”
“And in Midgardian standards?”
“24ish.”
“Hmm,” Loki hums. You were young as he previously suspected you to be. “Does anyone else know about your true lineage?”
“Only Tony and Steve,” you answer. “Tony because he was told by Fury after his death and Steve because… because I knew him from before.”
“From the war? You were there with him?” he asks surprised. You nod and he tries to make sense of it. “You were there when they first found the tesseract.”
“Contrary to popular belief I never encountered the nuisance of an object,” you tell him. “It wasn’t until later that I found out that it even existed.”
Loki couldn’t help but stare at you wondering what else you’ve lived through. You were aware of his intense focus on you and you tried very hard to ignore it.
“My story is a long one,” you tell him as you let yourself get distracted by the flowers that seem to reach out for your touch. “It’s best if I start from the beginning and work my way till the end.”
Loki nods in agreement and prompts for you to begin.
“I was born in 1822,” you answer. “Grew up fairly normal and comfortable to my mother’s content, managing to hide her secret for the first twenty years of my life before it all came to a stop.”
“You stopped aging,” Loki comments.
“I did,” you sigh out. “After turning 19, aging seemed to have grown to a stop. I remained that way for another fifty years. I watched my mother age and die alone because she was afraid of what people might think if they saw me.”
You take a deep breath trying to relinquish the pain that had taken hold of your chest.
“I found her journals soon after her death,” you answer. “And I couldn’t… It took awhile for me to actually read them. Found some oddities in the entrances before my birth and that was just the first hint of many that I wasn’t normal.”
“I was on my own after that,” you tell him. “I left her estate to be taken care of by distant relatives and had to keep moving in order to avoid getting caught on this ageless lie. I managed to avoid all of the wars in my travels. Lying became second nature wherever I went and I avoided getting close to people because of it.”
You shake your head out of the thought knowing you were giving more than was necessary. You hope Loki didn’t notice but he did. He caught the emotion on your voice.
“Anyways, I avoided the first world war,” you mention. “I was helping out where I could and everything was in such a disarray that no one questioned my agelessness or my not having a husband or kids. Once the war was over, I was on the move again. Time was slipping by quicker by then that I didn’t even notice the change.”
You pause as you recall the horrors you’ve seen.
“Another war started up,” you continue. “It was more awful than the last that I couldn’t stand idle on the side anymore, I had to help. I managed to get my hands on some false documentation that allowed me to sign up to be a nurse.”
You couldn’t help but snort at your cluelessness then.
“I worked my way up the ranks so easily,” you tell him. “I didn’t know why I was so immune to the many diseases going around at the time, nor my inability to get gravely injured or healing as quickly if I did end up hurt. I felt invincible… I hadn’t realized then that I technically was. And because of this mentality, I volunteered to go to the most dangerous locations which then led me to…”
“The Howling Commandos,” Loki interrupts knowing this story from Thor. “The good old brave Captain.”
“Yeah,” you laugh. “He was… He was amazing to work with. Not as much fun as…”
You stop yourself at the thought of him but he’s already invaded your mind. The sound of his laugh echoes in your mind. You feel the brush of his lips against your ear as he quietly sings the word of the song you’re closely dancing to.
Loki notices your pause and from the look on your face he recognizes where your mind has gone off too.
“You had a lover?”
“No, I mean… I…” you quickly stammer out a response. “We didn’t have a label on it but we were close. Bucky and I…”
“Wait,” Loki interrupts. “This Bucky isn’t the one they call the Winter Soldier, is it?”
You sigh at the label even though it was true.
“Yes, he is,” you answer.
“So he knows about your lineage too?”
“He’s aware there’s someone besides Steve from his past,” you correct him. “He doesn’t know it’s me.”
Loki glares down at you and you don’t comprehend as to why.
“Carry on with your story.”
“Well, from there it’s kind of all textbook,” you answer. “We were turning the tides of the war, releasing so many of our trapped troops, and regaining enemy territory but of course, nothing good ever lasts.”
“The Man of Winter plummets to his death and soon after the Captain crashes the plane to bury the tesseract.”
“Against all the rules I had set for myself, I managed to break them,” you sigh out. “I got too close to the squadron and I suffered the consequences of loss. I promptly resigned which in a way didn’t matter as the war had already come to an end.”
Amidst your walk, Loki had led you to a beautiful marble fountain. A bench was nearby and Loki prompted you to take a seat.
“I disappeared because I had to and I was on my own again,” you tell him. “And I returned to my family estate in need of some change. I repaired what was damaged in my home, updated it, and opened it up as a home for orphan children. I helped run it for as long as I could but had to leave it once the kids started to grow older. I left it with my trusted staff and checked in when necessary.”
You pause as you notice the figurines in the fountain shift into a different position before freezing up once more. You marveled at it in distraction amazed at the action.
“What happened next?” Loki asks snapping your focus back to him.
“Nothing really,” you answer as you turn to him. “I travelled the world like I always do until I was caught by SHIELD, most specifically Director Fury.”
You chuckle at the memory.
You had been in the middle of the frozen section at some grocery store trying to decide which pint of ice cream to take home. Nick had just plucked one and thrown into your basket making the decision for you. That was the only time you let him do as he pleased when it came to you.
“Apparently, Thor’s arrival on Earth prompted them to do some research which then made them aware of an incident two hundred years prior,” you explain. “And that’s when Fury found me, realized who I originally was, and made me aware of my true lineage. He tried to convince me into working with him but I refused. Threatened to lock me up and I laughed.”
Loki can’t help but join you in your amusement. Fury was not a man he was fond of and it seems you hadn’t liked him either.
“In the end, he let me go. Said he would keep an eye on me in case I tried something,” you tell him as your laughter died down. “But then he calls me up again, hoping that I would be able to help him with a private matter.”
“Steve Rogers…”
“Yes,” you answer. “And that’s how I got reunited with an old friend. I tried to help him acclimate to the modern world but it became disrupted upon your arrival. Fury tried to have me stay back and help but I feared for the aftermath of war and knew that my help was needed there. So I aided New York in recovering from the attack and that’s how I became acquainted with the rest of the Avengers. They all think I was a very brave civilian but Steve, and later on, Tony knew better.”
Loki nods happy that you skipped his role in your story. He did not enjoy being reminded of his failures.
“Things kind of blur together from there,” you tell him. “There was that mishap in London, Fury’s death, Hydra, Bucky being alive, Ultron… and a few bumps and bruises later here we are now. The end.”
Loki rolls his eyes at your conclusion knowing you failed to mention one very major detail.
“You wasted a lot of time on information that I could frankly care less about.”
“Alright, your majesty,” you mutter in annoyance. You had hoped your tale of woe would satisfy him but it hadn’t. “What is it that you want to know?”
Before Loki could ask the remaining burning question in his mind, he hears a chorus of laughter nearby. He seeks out the source noting the familiar dresses of his mother’s ladies in waiting from across the fountain. Loki didn’t enjoy their new audience and curious gazes on them. They were most likely gossiping already which after slight consideration could work for him if he played it right.
The opportunity for Loki to ask you about your father is gone but he was still able to gain something out of you.
“Loki?” you ask, gaining his attention once more. “What did you want to ask me?”
Loki’s grin makes an appearance again and you grow weary of it.
Your suspicions are confirmed right as he takes a gentle hold of your chin and sets his lips onto yours.
Winter Soldier!Steve
I don’t see enough of this AU
And when I do it is ALWAYS Stucky So let’s take a different route on this bad boy, shall we?
First movie follows the same story line up to the train section.
Don’t know how and don’t think too hard about it because AU but somehow Steve is the one thrown from the train, not Bucky--
BUT
Bucky isn’t Steve. Because when Bucky “dies” Steve breaks down and cries.
When Steve “dies” Bucky stares at the point where his friend fell in shock as he realizes he’s failed his friend. His stupid, punk, friend who survived getting beaten in back alley’s, illness inducing winters, allergies, the deaths of both parents, and a freaking government science experiment. His friend is gone and all he has left of him is a metal frisbee.
Yes, he is sad. But he is mostly ticked.
Zola is found by Barnes before the other Commando’s because Barnes rips off the flipping door, grabs Zola around the neck and starts choking him (and almost kills him), but the Commando’s manage to snap him out of his death rage and Zola is taken in (albeit very afraid and very bruised)
After some “interrogation” Zola admits to Barnes having a variant of a super soldier serum from his time experimenting on the soldier. Stark looks into it, confirms the fact, and suddenly Barnes finds himself in charge of the Commandos and is given Steve’s shield.
He agrees to do it on ONE condition. In the public reports of the incident, Captain America is still Steve Rogers and will always be Steve. If anyone asks, Bucky died on that train, not Steve because gosh darn it, Bucky is not going to let his friend fade into the background again.
Bucky and Peggy have a friendship and an understanding between them. Whatever happens next is for that little guy in Brooklyn.
Bucky makes a very ruthless Captain America. He does his job with efficiency and speed. The Commando’s back him up whole heartedly.
The movie plays out pretty much the same with the Red Skull fight and Bucky getting on the plane (he doesn’t kiss Peggy, geez), and then going to crash the ship in the ocean.
The radio call is different. In the call, Bucky makes Peggy swear to tell the public it was Steve in the plane. This was Steve saving the world, not James Barnes. “Because that kid saved me before he saved anyone else.”
Then he asks Peggy to tell him about how she first met his punk brother. She obliges, tears running down her face. She doesn’t know when Barnes was cut off but by the time she was done the radio had gone dead.
Seventy years later, SHIELD pulls out a frozen Captain America. Most everyone is confused when the man is brown haired, not blonde, and upon closer inspection they find whoever this is, it is NOT Steven Rogers.
Fury pulls up the redacted reports and very old, very disclosed files before finding the truth about Captain Rogers and that the person they have found is Sergeant James Barnes.
James doesn’t bolt out of the hospital room SHIELD staged. He points out the inconsistencies, the radio game being wrong, etc, then sits down and basically asks when they are going to start torturing him for information.
Fury comes in, tells him he’s been frozen and when Bucky doesn’t believe him, Fury takes him on a tour around New York City.
Bucky requests if they release anything on Captain America being found, to say it was Steven Rogers, who is now being very recluse and does not want any attention.
Avenger’s plays out slightly different.
For one, Tony and Bucky don’t butt heads as much. Actually, Tony thinks Bucky is Steve Rogers at first (he still really doesn’t like Steve because of how his Dad talked about him) and is extremely confused when James takes off the mask and introduces himself as Sergeant James Barnes. Then Tony backpedals on that information and does his own research on it. Tony’s the one who finds the SHIELD weapons, James is angry at Fury and actually sides with Tony
For another thing, Bucky doesn’t get along with Thor very well. Maybe it’s the fact that he’s a stupid blonde but it’s just bad memories.
Nat and Bruce are fine with James, as is Clint when he comes around.
Everyone beats up the aliens and Loki and it’s a win, win.
In between movies, Bucky hangs out with Tony to catch up on modern day (because Tony really likes watching him be confused/learning pop culture and James needs it because what are these references?) Bucky tells Tony about the “real” Steve. The kid before the shield. I wouldn’t say Tony loves Rogers now, but he definitely understands him better and has a little more sympathy for the guy.
This is important because Winter Soldier is up
Bucky meets Sam while running. Sam doesn’t know who he is at first until they are introduced, then kind of confused because isn’t Barnes dead? But he doesn’t bring it up and leaves it at that because this guy is clearly suffering from PTSD and a soldier not used to being home.
Mission with Black Widow, goes to see the giant battleships in the sky, and Bucky isn’t Steve. But he also knows this is a bit much/extreme for a constant military station so he doesn’t support the project because, yes there are aliens. So why are we looking at threats on the planet and not in space???
Bucky calls Tony and chats with him for a bit about it (he feels uncomfortable talking to Peggy because it’s not fair that Steve doesn’t get to see her). Tony points out the pros and cons of the project and cracks some jokes. Overall, not extremely helpful but helps clear Bucky’s head a little.
Nick is attacked, runs to Bucky, Nick is “killed” and Bucky chases after the killer. Similar roof scene (*note: I don’t know if Steve has the metal arm. If he does, I’m thinking it’s the right arm, not the left. Don’t know why, just think it should be that way if it is) and Winter Soldier vanishes
Okay, so-- Fury says to not trust anyone. And Bucky sure as heck doesn’t trust Pierce. But I feel like Barnes is more trusting than Steve (I’m serious, the Winter Soldier experience just threw that trait out the window). So Barnes trusts Widow enough to actually leave her with the drive and not put it in a vending machine (also tells her not to show it to anyone-- which she doesn’t.)
Just going to say the movie carries out the same for the most part (including contacting Falcon) EXCEPT--
When Bucky pulls the mask off Steve he calls his name out and we still get shot at and captured. Rescued by Maria Hill, find Fury, etc, etc.
THEN Bucky calls Tony Stark from a payphone, who’s confused as to why Captain America is wanted on the news. Bucky tells Stark about Steve. Tony probably doesn’t believe him at first because, “Hello, Barnes? He’s dead. Has been for a long time. You hit your head or something?” But Bucky explains and suddenly Tony finds himself diving into old S.H.I.E.L.D. files and reading up on Soviet science experiments from the cold war.
Also, Tony comes to help blow up the carriers because heck to the no, Hydra is not using his technology, no siree.
So Falcon and Stark are flying around the carriers and taking care of goons, when Falcon gets shot down Stark goes after him and when everything is falling apart, Stark tries to get close to Barnes to grab him, but can’t because of the big guns.
Meanwhile in the Bucky vs. Steve fight, we get the whole “trying to kill one“ another thing, but I feel like Bucky is way better at pushing Steve’s memory buttons and Bucky is a little more willing to punch Steve because he knows Steve wouldn’t want to kill him. So Steve figures out “wait, I know this guy” just before they hit the water.
When they crash in the water, both are semi-conscious and they are found by Stark who flies both to his compound and calls the doctors to come work on these two sad super soldiers.
Now Steve doesn’t remember everything. But he knows that: One, Hydra is going to be after him if they find out he’s still alive. Two, these people that helped him either knew him or know of him somehow and he really doesn’t want to hurt them. Three, his name is Steven Rogers and the punk from earlier is James Buchanan Barnes.
So Steve pulls a him and goes, “Nope, not putting you in danger” and the first chance he gets he flees Avenger’s tower and disappears into thin air.
Thanks, Steve. Thanks a lot.
Age of Ultron, nothing really changes. Tony is also looking for Steve and Bucky is a little more on top of things and tells Tony that Steve might have had something to do with his parent’s deaths but he’s not 100% sure.
Civil War. Okay, bear with me for a second because I can see Bucky actually being Pro-Accords. Not one hundred percent of the actual document but the idea behind it because “yes, people need to be held accountable for their actions” but also “you can’t save everyone no matter how hard you try, trust me I know that better than everyone, but that doesn’t mean you just sit there and do nothing because some government people tell you no, you can’t get involved.” (Basically Black Widow’s stance on this whole thing)
So when “Steve” bombs the accords, Bucky knows that’s not him and tells Tony as much (who doesn’t believe Barnes completely, but willing to give him a chance because of the past) and since Bucky technically signed the accords he has more pull in what happens to him and Tony is way more willing to listen.
Which means Bucky and Tony track down Steve in that apartment with actual permission to do so, on the condition they take the “Winter Soldier” into custody.
I’m not really sure what happens after this because Tony is going to find out about his parents, one way or another. Maybe Bucky’s stories about his old friend will keep Tony from trying to kill him. Maybe they won’t. Who knows? Heck, Zola may not even make it through the front door because Bucky is allowed to talk to Steve as the “therapist”
So end this AU however you want, I think it’d be pretty accurate. I’m just going to say the Accords got thrown out the window and Bucky and Tony start helping Steve recover from Hydra. Yay!
Here it is! Our first ever “what if...” scenario!
I bet you’re excited! (And if you’re not, then why are you reading this?)
Okay, here it is... Drumroll please.
Tumblr media
What if...
Steve fell off the train instead of Bucky? (written by Rebecca)
Tumblr media
Well, the whole timeline of Steve becoming Captain America would be very different, indeed.
One of two things could happen.
Bucky becomes the new Captain America and joins the Avengers as an OG Avenger, instead of Steve.
Bucky doesn’t join the Avengers at all, leaving a place of leadership to be missing.
Well, let’s go through each movies that Steve was in and evaluate each one, shall we?
<-------------------------------->
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
The following is a Wikipedia entry of what happened in this movie AFTER Bucky falls from the train:
“Using information extracted from Zola, the final Hydra stronghold is located, and Rogers leads an attack to stop Schmidt from using weapons of mass destruction on major American cities. Rogers climbs aboard Schmidt's aircraft as it takes off. During the subsequent fight, the Tesseract's container is damaged. Schmidt physically handles the Tesseract, which opens a wormhole into space, sucking him into it. The Tesseract burns through the plane and is lost in the ocean. Seeing no way to land the plane without the risk of detonating its weapons, Rogers crashes it in the Arctic. Stark later recovers the Tesseract from the ocean floor but is unable to locate Rogers or the aircraft, presuming him dead.”
Now if we analyse each of the things that could’ve happened if Steve fell instead of Bucky...
This would turn out the exact same, except replace the face of Chris Evans with Sebastian Stan and visa versa. But of course the Peggy relationship would be different (maybe that what if scenario about Peggy becoming Captain Britain might come true?)
None of this would’ve happened if Bucky didn’t become Captain America. Barnes would’ve been still stuck in the 1940s and died there as he wasn’t injected with the super soldier serum that Steve did. Of course, Steve would’ve taken Bucky’s place at HYDRA (cue HYDRA Cap, but that will come later in the sequel)
<-------------------------------->
The Avengers (2012)
I’m not going to copy and paste the whole Wikipedia plot of the Avengers onto here, otherwise that would be too long to read, so here is a shorten version that someone wrote on IMDB (trust me, it is shorter than the Wikipedia entry).
“S.H.I.E.L.D. has located the mysterious Tesseract device and the Army's super soldier Captain America. The Tesseract is actually a gateway to an entirely new world called Asgard. A mysterious being known as Loki arrives on earth and immediately assumes that he can rule all human beings. But that irks S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury the wrong way. As Loki escapes with the Tesseract, Nick Fury believes this is an act of war against Earth. His only hope is to assemble an actual team of super heroes. Dr. Bruce Banner, who turns into an enormous green rage monster known as the Hulk. Tony Stark and his venerable Iron Man armor. Captain America, the Stark Enterprises created super soldier. Thor, the god of thunder, protector of Earth and his home planet of Asgard, and Loki's brother. Master assassins Hawkeye and Natasha Romanoff. Together they will become a team to take on an attack that will call them to become the greatest of all time.”
Let’s analyse again...
The whole movie would be the same, except for a few bits. Whilst the whole boxing scene would be scrapped, the introduction of Bucky as Cap would be similar (with the memories of the events of the First Avenger and Steve falling off the train). The leadership part would be missing. Bucky considers himself as a very introverted person, so the leadership skills would turned towards Stark, which would be different for the other movies (as well as Iron Man 3).
For this scenario, the introductions would be the same, except the Cap intro. That would be replaced by either Carol Danvers, Scott Lang or Hope Van Dyne (probably not Scott but it could’ve been a possibility).
<-------------------------------->
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
This is the most important part of the franchise. Again, this is another IMDB plot summary of the Winter Soldier cause it’s shorter than the Wikipedia entry.
“Two years after the alien attack on New York, Steve Rogers starts to adjust to the modern world and works as an agent of SHIELD. However, Steve disagrees with the rules of today as he faces a world of threats and complexities. When Director Nick Fury is killed by a mysterious assassin called the Winter Soldier, Steve is warned not to trust anyone, only to find himself being framed for not sharing information. On the run, Rogers launches an investigation into a deadly conspiracy which reveals that SHIELD has been infiltrated by his old arch nemesis HYDRA, who have been hiding in plain sight. With only Black Widow and Falcon as backup, Rogers must once again suit up and defeat HYDRA from launching their ultimate weapon before it's too late.”
Analysing...
To be honest, this whole movie would’ve been the same, but instead of Bucky being the Winter Soldier, Steve would’ve revealed himself as Hydra Cap (or Militant, as it’s known in the comics). Probably not with the whole green and black suit colours, but with red and black (just like Bucky had in the CA:TWS with the red star on his metal arm). Bucky would’ve still met Sam Wilson and their TV series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would still go on (but more on that later).
The events of the movie could’ve still happened (due to Pierce’s plans and Sitwell being an undercover SHIELD agent working for HYDRA). But Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton would probably be the main protagonists of the movie, fighting Hydra Cap together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
<-------------------------------->
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Here is yet another plot summary from IMDB about this movie.
“After a successful raid on a HYDRA base, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner create an Artificial Intelligence called Ultron, a peacekeeping protocol designed to help the Avengers protect the world from their enemies. But things go wrong when Ultron sees the human race as a threat and sets out to destroy it along with the Avengers. Now the Avengers, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, the Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, must reassemble to stop Ultron from causing mass destruction. Aside from this, the Avengers also must take on the powerful twins Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as well as the new entity called Vision. Also, the Avengers find that things may never be the same again after discovering a power beyond their comprehension.”
Analysing...
This movie would be the same, as well as Pietro dying (RIP Pietro). But it is a possibility that Clint would not have a family, due to the fact that he was on the run with Tasha. Also, it is a possibility that Brutasha (Ship name for Bruce and Natasha) would still happen, but it is a low one as maybe during the events of CA:TWS, we find out that Clint and Tasha have a secret relationship that we don’t know of until the Black Widow movie, (which won’t be mentioned in this post but probably in a later post about the Clintasha ship).
With Bucky out of the way, this bit of the movie (courtesy of Wikipedia), “As Stark leaves and Barton retires, Rogers and Romanoff prepare to train new Avengers: Rhodes, Vision, Sam Wilson, and Wanda...” will happen without him. Barton would not retire and help Tasha with helping to train them. But the theory that Stark went to his safehouse (mentioned and visited in Endgame) could happen in this version. But of course, if the, before mentioned, characters in the first Avengers movie were to replace Bucky, then they would train the newbies with Tasha.
<-------------------------------->
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Here is another important movie in the franchise! And here it is, another plot summary!
“With many people fearing the actions of super heroes, the government decides to push for the Hero Registration Act, a law that limits a hero's actions. This results in a division in The Avengers. Iron Man stands with this Act, claiming that their actions must be kept in check otherwise cities will continue to be destroyed, but Captain America feels that saving the world is daring enough and that they cannot rely on the government to protect the world. This escalates into an all-out war between Team Iron Man (Iron Man, Black Panther, Vision, Black Widow, War Machine, and Spider-Man) and Team Captain America (Captain America, Bucky Barnes, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, and Ant Man) while a new villain emerges.”
Analysing...
Again, to be honest, this whole movie would’ve been the same. Yeah. That’s it. But number two, on the other hand...
...Would not happen at all. Well, actually, the Sokovia Accords were about the Battle of Sokovia in AoU, but the whole argument between Steve/Bucky and Tony wouldn’t happen. Unless either Carol, Scott (probably not Scott) or Hope would disagree with Stark, then it would go along with the original movie. But for the sub-plot (which is Hydra Cap killed Tony’s parents) would only be mentioned. So that’s mean Baron Zemo’s introduction would have to wait until the Falcon and Winter Soldier series. As of Spider-Man and Ant-Man’s introduction (of course, after Scott’s solo movie), that would be the same (unless of course Scott was the OG Avenger to replace Steve or Bucky).
Tumblr media
<-------------------------------->
Avengers: Infinity War & Avengers: Endgame (2018 and 2019)
Two plot summaries from IMDB... (Points number 1 and 2 will be for Infinity War from both scenarios and points 2 and 4 will be for Endgame)
“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artefacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment, the fate of Earth and existence has never been more uncertain.”
“After half of all life is snapped away by Thanos, the Avengers are left scattered and divided. Now with a way to reverse the damage, the Avengers and their allies must assemble once more and learn to put differences aside in order to work together and set things right. Along the way, the Avengers realise that sacrifices must be made as they prepare for the ultimate final showdown with Thanos, which will result in the heroes fighting the biggest battle they have ever faced.”
Analysing...
So, for IW, Bucky would be back as Captain America to fight Thanos with the rest of the Avengers (except Hawkeye as he is playing tag. I’m just joking xD). But instead of him being the one to help Vision and Wanda, and take the others to Wakanda, it would’ve been Sam (maybe to foreshadow the fact he will become the next Captain America in Endgame). Steve, of course, will be awoken from his cryogenic sleep from Civil War and reunited with his buddy. But when Thanos snaps his finger, Steve would be the first person to be disintegrated (or maybe it would turn out the exact same as the original with Bucky going with Wanda etc...  and Steve staying?).
As for Endgame, Barnes would probably lead grief counselling sessions for survivors (like Steve did). Then, the same thing will happen like the original. But the ending will change. Bucky will give the mantel of Captain America to Sam Wilson and maybe, go back to return the stones, find Red Skull, of course, and maybe go back to the first Cap movie to reverse the roles (so he fell off the train instead of Steve, like in the original MCU timeline).
For the second scenario, I think the movie will go along as normal. But if Carol replaced Steve as the “Captain”, then Fury would never need to send a distress signal to Carol, as she is already there (and the mid credit scene is no longer needed, but I think that wouldn’t happen, due to the fact that Carol is too strong when she is put up with a Norse god, a Gamma radiation monster, two SHIELD assassins with no superpowers and a tech genius with a sarcasm as a superpower. Of course, for Steve and the cryogenic sleep would never happen because no one rescued him in Civil War and he would still be with Hydra.
Endgame, however, would be totally different to the first scenario. There would be no “grief counselling sessions”, only Banner, Stark and Lang would go to New York (which means no Cap v Cap fight). It is possible that the “going back to the 1970s” plan could work with just Stark, but Scott would go with him as well. Unless Carol went with them, then the Cap v Cap fight (with Carol instead of Steve) would still happen. Both the funerals for Stark and Tasha would still happen. But who would return the stones? Probably either Scott or Barton.
Tumblr media
<-------------------------------->
Now time for the last part (finally!), the future movies and TV shows!
First up is the Falcon and the Winter Soldier. There isn’t an official synopsis for the show yet, but here is a Wiki entry...
“After being handed the mantle of Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Sam Wilson teams up with Bucky Barnes in a worldwide adventure that puts their abilities to the test.”
This part will be a combination of the two scenarios to save time.
The casting of the show has only got 4 characters, in line for the show. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) and Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp).
And, of course US Agent (the “fake” Captain America) played by Wyatt Russell.
For scenario 1, the series will play out the exact same way (depends on if Bucky goes back in time to fix everything).
Scenario 2, however, would be very different. Sebastian would be missing from that cast list, but would be replaced by Evans (who would play Hydra Cap once again). As for Zemo, this would be an introduction to the MCU (unless he would get introduced in the Black Widow movie).
Tumblr media
Secondly, it’s the Black Widow solo movie and other TV series (such as the Hawkeye series and WandaVision). Here is a unofficial synopsis of them (that means it’s not official by Marvel Studios).
“Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, Natasha Romanoff finds herself alone and forced to confront a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Romanoff must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.”
“In April 2019, a limited series focused on Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton / Hawkeye was reported to be in development, with the plot involving Barton passing the mantle of Hawkeye to the character Kate Bishop.”
“Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Wanda Maximoff and Vision begin to suspect things are not as they seem as the two live their ideal suburban life.”
Even though, we don’t know exactly what will happen in the future of the MCU (especially Phase 4), I cannot say what would happen if Steve fell from the train instead of Bucky. But maybe check in with us in about 4 to 5 years when these TV series/movies have come out fully.
So, that’s it for this scenario! Hopefully you have had fun reading this, as much as I have had writing this. If you have any suggestions on other scenarios, just send an ask in to us!
This is Rebecca signing off.
Until next time!
Tony Stark and the Messianic Archetype in Avengers: Endgame
* * * * * S P O I L E R S ahead for Avengers: Endgame * * * * *
Tumblr media
From a purely analytical standpoint, I don’t have anything against Tony’s character arc in Endgame culminating with his death. His last moments in the heat of battle weren’t rushed, poorly written, or unearned. If Tony Stark was going to die on screen, of course he’d do it like a goddamn badass—and he did.
At this point Marvel is telling a single story to millions upon millions of people and there’s no way they can craft a narrative to suit every single person. When I say Tony's death didn’t work for me, I do so knowing that Marvel wasn’t writing the story for me anyway. And I'm not trying to disparage the creative team's efforts and storytelling choices. They made a call. I don’t agree it was the right one.
For me, Tony’s death traps him inside a Messianic Archetype that doesn’t elevate his character in a wholly satisfying way and doesn’t fit the themes of the established, team-centric universe. In this essay I will…
…actually write a fucking 4000-word essay, so buckle up and read on if you’re in for the ride.
What Is the Messianic Archetype?
Tumblr media
The Messianic Archetype is a messiah trope. It’s exactly what it sounds like—one person (usually (but not always) white, usually (but not always) male) who sacrifices themselves for the greater good.
Here’s how TV Tropes puts it:
In media, the Messianic Archetype is a character whose role in the story (but not necessarily personality) echoes that of Christ. They are portrayed as a savior, whether the thing they are saving is a person, a lot of people or the whole of humanity. They endure a sizable sacrifice as the means of bringing that salvation about for others, a fate they do not deserve up to and including death or a Fate Worse than Death. Other elements may be mixed and matched as required but the Messianic Archetype will include one or more of the following:
- The Chosen One. - True Companions who follow him. - Betrayal by one of those followers. - Persecution by nonbelievers. - Crucified Hero Shot (or other parallels to the Passion Play). - Figurative or literal resurrection. - A Second Coming. - The initials JC.
Some examples of Messianic Archetypes in popular narratives are: Gandalf in Lord of the Rings, Spock in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (or Kirk in Star Trek: Into Darkness), Harry Potter in The Deathly Hallows, Superman in Batman vs Superman, or Neo in the Matrix trilogy. The Doctor in Doctor Who is frequently and repeatedly presented as a messiah figure. Multiple incarnations of Sherlock also follow suit in multiple imaginings of the the Reichenbach Falls scenario. (I won’t go into details with any of these characters. I trust the Messianic Archetypes here are obvious to anyone familiar with these stories.)
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe itself, we see Messianic Archetypes popping up all over the place—like daisies! Steve plays this part when he sacrifices himself in The First Avenger to stop Red Skull's plan to bomb several major American cities. His time in the ice is a kind of death from which he is subsequently “resurrected” in modern day New York. To a lesser extent, he also offers himself up as a sacrifice to save Bucky in The Winter Soldier.
T’Challa follows this pattern in Black Panther when he’s betrayed by W’Kabi, defeated by Killmonger, and subsequently resurrected within the safety of M’Baku’s tribe.
In the first Thor movie, Thor is betrayed by Loki, sacrifices himself to the Destroyer to protect his human friends, and he comes back from near-death with the return of Mjölnir, having proven himself worthy of the hammer.
Carol Danvers destroys Mar-Vell’s engine in Captain Marvel to keep enemies from getting their hands on tech that could harm millions of innocent people. Her human life symbolically ends in the subsequent explosion, and she’s effectively reborn with superpowers.
Pepper Potts is betrayed by her former colleague Killian in Iron Man 3, selected as his “chosen one” for the Extremis injection, and she dies and is reborn from fire.
Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2—
Well, I could go on for a long time, but... you get the idea.
The Messianic Archetype isn’t particularly new to popular media, let alone the MCU.
This trope is deeply, almost subconsciously, woven into the fabric of popular western storytelling. There's nothing inherently wrong with that. Tropes are tropes for a reason—they speak to us on a cultural and instinctual level. We want to hear these stories over and over, replay them in new ways and look at them from different angles precisely because there is something meaningful in the narrative.
And Tony Stark's narrative is no exception. His repeated acts of self-sacrifice fit into the Messianic Archetype very, very well.
.
Proof That Tony Stark Has a Heart
Tumblr media
The MCU kicked off in 2008 with the first Iron Man movie and Tony Stark has ostensibly been the main character of the franchise from the beginning.
The Iron Man movies establish early on that Tony has a savior complex to match the size of his ego. Our genius playboy billionaire philanthropist is a deeply flawed hero who started out his career as a maker of WMDs. He was widely known as “The Merchant of Death” before he saw the error of his ways. Tony understands he has done many Bad Things and he must atone for those Bad Things—with his life, if necessary.
Tumblr media
“I shouldn’t be alive, unless it was for a reason. ... I finally know what I have to do and I know in my heart that it’s right.” —Tony Stark, Iron Man
The first Iron Man movie climaxes with Tony ordering Pepper to blow the Arc Reactor to stop Stane’s rampage, even though Tony might perish in the process. In Iron Man 2, Tony is actively dying from palladium poisoning, but he faces down Vanko (sans Iron Man suit) on the speedway of the Monaco Historic Grand Prix. In the first Avengers movie, we see Tony put his life on the line to get a nuclear weapon out of New York.
This is a repeated pattern for Tony, and like an addict, it’s one he struggles to break. Over and over Tony flings himself into the fray, believing he’s the one who makes the difference—he’s the willing sacrifice whose blood saves the world.
Tony selects himself to be “the chosen one” because he sees himself as the one at fault for bringing evil into the world.
Tumblr media
“We create our own demons. Who said that? What does that even mean? Doesn’t matter, I said it cause he said it. ...So why am I telling you this? Because I had just created demons, and I didn’t even know it.” —Tony Stark, Iron Man 3
Iron Man 3 shows us just how deeply responsible Tony feels for the wrongs of the world. Because he made naive (and selfish) mistakes when he was young, Tony blames himself for creating villains that plague the earth now.
We see this best in the aftermath of the destruction of Tony’s mansion in Malibu.
Tumblr media
“Pepper, it’s me. I’ve got a lot of apologies to make and not a lot of time. So first off, I’m so sorry I put you in harm’s way. That was selfish and stupid and it won’t happen again. ...And I’m sorry in advance because I can’t come home yet. I need to find this guy. You got to stay safe. That’s all I know.” —Tony Stark, Iron Man 3
Yes, Tony absolutely provoked the Mandarin, a known terrorist, and the result is the complete annihilation of Tony’s home. Tony accepts responsibility for the destruction as though he was the one who shot the missiles himself. He goes so far as to volunteer himself for a solo mission to find the Mandarin without even bothering to contact SHIELD or the Avengers for help. He made this mess, he’s going to clean it up. All the while he suffers through crippling anxiety and panic attacks, demonstrating that the burden he’s put on his own shoulders is, in fact, too much for him to handle by himself. Still, Tony denies himself the comforts of home and family until he can atone for his wrongdoings.
Miraculously, Iron Man 3 gives Tony a respite when the tables are turned and, for once, Tony is the one ultimately saved by Pepper. After her rescue (pun intended), Tony gives up the armor, commits to having the shrapnel taken out of his chest, and he starts rebuilding the literal ruins of his life—both physical and metaphorical.
The respite doesn’t last, of course, because recovery doesn’t go in a straight line—oh, and also the franchise isn’t over and the MCU kinda needs Iron Man. And so Tony slides back into familiar, self-destructive patterns.
Tumblr media
"Few years ago, I almost lost [Pepper], so I trashed all my suits. Then, we had to muck up Hydra. And then Ultron. My fault. And then, and then, and then. I never stopped. 'Cause the truth is, I don't wanna stop.” —Tony Stark, Civil War
Tony taking on the mantle of the Messianic Archetype once more in Endgame falls perfectly in line with his established need to compulsively and perpetually atone for his sins. As a perfectionist who needs to assuage his guilt for his ongoing (and perceived) failures, Tony simply can’t stop himself from offering up his life in penance. Statistically it was bound to catch up with him, and in Endgame it does.
And not only does Tony give his life in true Messianic fashion, we are “treated” to a hyper-realistic and painfully extended sequence where his life drains out of him as his loved ones gather to witness him gasping out his last breath. (Thanks for that, by the way, Marvel. I’ll put this scene with the dead baby bunnies my childhood cat used to bring home as gifts. How thoughtful.)
Tumblr media
Maybe the reason for the intensity of Tony’s death scene is to make the audience believe his death is the Real Thing, not some comic-book-superhero-movie trickery that he’ll be back from in a few minutes’ time. Perhaps it’s the only way to ensure we commit to the emotional depth of the moment. Perhaps the filmmakers see it as an homage to RDJ’s acting talent and commitment to the role. Regardless of the rationale behind the camera’s unflinching gaze, Tony’s excruciating death hammers home the brutal and lonely reality of the Messianic Archetype: it’s cruel to put the fate of the world on one person’s shoulders.
But Tony embraces that end. He throws himself into the machinery of fate, convinced he’s the cog that will make it all work.
And he does make it work.
So why is that a problem?
+
.
The Team-Oriented Universe
The problem with Tony doubling (tripling? quadrupling?) down on the Messianic Archetype at the apex of the franchise is that the MCU is an ensemble, team-oriented universe.
Tumblr media
“You think you're the only superhero in the world? Mr. Stark, you've become part of a bigger universe, you just don't know it yet." —Nick Fury, Iron Man
Fury tells us from the get-go that Tony isn’t the be-all-end-all of the MCU. It’s possible for Tony—for them all—to become something greater than the sum of their parts.
Tumblr media
“There was an idea, Stark knows this, called the Avengers Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they could become something more.” —Nick Fury, Avengers
The entire first Avengers movie is dedicated to establishing this premise, to getting these knuckleheads to work together because, alone, they’re too wrapped up in their own bullshit to adequately deal with the forces that threaten the planet. Things don’t start to go right for them until they set aside their personal issues and act as a unit.
Tumblr media
As we all know, our team passes the test and they establish an important principle of the MCU: teamwork is powerful and it’s more effective than working solo.
True, Tony’s self-sacrifice in the context of the Battle of New York helps save the day; but it’s only one part of a coordinated effort. Tony chucking the nuke into space would have been pointless without the added efforts of Steve to coordinate civilian safety, Hawkeye to relay enemy movements, Thor to separate Loki from the scepter, Natasha to close the portal, and Hulk to subdue Loki and ultimately catch Tony as he fell from the wormhole. The team achieved a better outcome together than they each could have achieved separately.
But even in the shared afterglow of winning the Battle of New York, the individual members of the team struggle to perfect their dynamic. New challenges present themselves. There’s always room for the team to grow and become stronger together as the franchise progresses. That’s the whole point.
Tony, for his part, waffles back and forth between his desire to be the savior mechanic (to fix everything by himself) and his desire to work cooperatively with his found-family of superheroes for the common good. This internal conflict plays out over the course of the franchise as Tony takes on the Mandarin by himself in Iron Man 3. The issue then escalates in Age of Ultron when Tony convinces Bruce to help him create Ultron, unbeknownst to the rest of the team. Murder-bot problems and team drama ensue. Tony’s cycle of guilt perpetuates itself in the wake of the disaster in Sokovia, which prompts Tony to adopt the Sokovia Accords. He submits himself and the team to UN governance in Civil War. More team drama ensues.
The logical progression of this escalating team conflict should have involved Tony confronting his deep-seated compulsion to destroy himself for the sake of others. This is exactly the problem Pepper keeps trying to point out to him—his Messianic tendencies have started to cause more problems than they solve.
Tumblr media
“There is nothing except this. ... There's the next mission, and nothing else.” —Tony Stark, Iron Man
Tony has struggled from the beginning to find the right balance between personal sacrifice and sharing team effort.
Pepper frequently tries to remind Tony that he doesn’t live alone in the world, he can’t do it all by himself. And there are people who want him to live.
Tumblr media
“You’re all I have, too, you know.” —Pepper Potts, Iron Man
Imagine how emotionally satisfying it would have been to see Tony outgrow his need for sacrificial penance and internalize a better lesson: that the savior can be saved, the burden can be shared, and life can go on.
+
.
A Better Ending for Tony
The MCU had the perfect opportunity to give us an ending that would be happier for Tony and a better fit for a team-centric universe.
In Guardians of the Galaxy we see Peter Quill and his team survive the power of an Infinity Stone by working together to share the burden of its energy.
Tumblr media
Peter Quill is the son of a Celestial—he’s basically immortal up until the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. That’s why he and his team could hold the stone without any ill effects.
Also, they only had to channel the power of one stone. Not six.
That’s a fair point.
But by the time Tony had all of the Infinity Stones in Endgame, the battlefield was chock full of all kinds of superheroes. Wanda and Carol by themselves are  embodiments of two of the Infinity Stones. Hulk had managed to bear all of the stones by himself earlier in the movie. Steve, T’challa, and Bucky are enhanced super soldiers. Thor, Valkyrie, and the other Asgardians might not be Celestials, but they are gods—and there were a lot of them on that field.
And we’re supposed to believe none of these characters could offer any help to Tony whatsoever? None of them could hold Tony’s hand for a single minute to save his life?
There are plenty of arguments that could be made: Tony was too fast, no one knew what was happening, or everyone else was occupied in battle. But at the end of the day, it’s a choice the creative team made. Tony died because they wanted him to die.
And not much would have to change to save his life.
Imagine this: Tony gets the stones from Thanos and, in true Messianic Archetype fashion, he commits to making the snap, fully expecting it means his death—but then Pepper is there and Pepper has always been the one asking Tony to stop offering up his life to pay for some imaginary debt he thinks he owes. He hesitates, and it’s just long enough for Carol and Wanda swoop in, putting their hands on him and taking the brunt of the energy. Thor and Steve and Bruce and Clint pile on. Peter Parker links up, too, and on and on until the entire rest of the team, all across the battlefield, are in contact with each other and alight with power, channeling the energy of the six stones, keeping Thanos and his monsters at bay.
Tony can still have his ultra-badass “I am Iron Man” moment as he stands at the center of this surging and fluxing cosmic energy—but this time he does it with support. There are people who care about him (and each other) on all sides. And there are so many of them. Tony isn’t the only one who matters, he’s just the lynch pin that holds it all together.
Tony is Iron Man.
More importantly? Together they’re all the Avengers.
*SNAP*
The universe is set right.
Maybe Tony doesn’t escape entirely unscathed. Maybe he loses his arm as suggested by this post. Maybe the others all leave with their own scars, too. But Tony’s alive and he’s finally, deeply aware of what it means to transcend the limits of personal sacrifice and share the hero’s burden with others.
He knows now exactly what the Avengers are capable of. Oh, and by the way? That protective shield he wanted around the world in Age of Ultron? Here they all are. All these wonderful, powerful people are going to protect the Earth. And you know what? They don’t need Tony Stark’s myopic self-sacrifice to do it.
Tony finally feels like he’s done enough—and maybe now he believes there are other heroes out there who can do better than he can. Anyway, he gets to go home to Morgan and Pepper and he finds that it’s not so hard for him to let the new kids do the tough jobs now. He happily goes back to his role as “consultant” for the Avengers, he’s a mad inventor helping change the world for the better, and he also gets to have the long adventure of being a husband and a dad. He doesn’t have to choose one identity over the other—he’s Iron Man. He can redefine what the job means whenever he wants to.
(Also, he finds a way to rescue Nat because she didn’t deserve to be fridged like that. Just saying.)
This ending, or any number of variations like it, would have allowed Tony to finally show real growth at the end of his character arc, instead of succumbing to the same old self-destructive pattern we've seen from him time and time again. And it would have reinforced the theme of teamwork and its power to elevate all those who participate.
Maybe it’s cheesy, but you know what? It’s the ending I wanted. I know I’m not alone.
Tony’s Not Really Dead, You Say?
Tumblr media
“There’s no need to be upset about Tony’s death,” some might say. “Tony’s gonna come back!”
Resurrection is a huge part of the Messianic Archetype—and it might be that the filmmakers do intend to bring Tony back in some later movie. It might be they simply want Tony’s death in Endgame to sit a little while longer so it has a greater impact. (Gotta push for that best picture Oscar, right? The Oscars hate superhero movies, but they do love a sad ending.)
While I’m wishing for things, maybe Marvel will also release the multiple alternate endings they filmed for Endgame, essentially creating a “choose your own adventure.” Maybe we’ll all be able to pick the ending we like best and forget the rest exist.
But I can’t make a judgement based on what might be, I can only say how I feel based on what we were given in the theater—for all intents and purposes, that’s the official story Marvel wants to share.
Tumblr media
The Endgame narrative insists there’s only one possible path to victory against Thanos. The “one possible path” is basically the equivalent of the creative team saying, “Don’t @ me.” There certainly must have been an impossible number of endings they could have put on film. Tony’s death is the one they picked.
So, sorry for @ing you, Marvel, I guess, but there’s just one more point I want to make...
A Personal Note
Tumblr media
RDJ acted the hell out of Tony's final scene. He acted the hell out of the whole franchise. Tony's death was powerful and intensely moving. I wanted to ugly cry in the lobby after the movie was over, and I was upset for days after.
So. Good job, Marvel. You got in some surprises and you wrung out some feelings from viewers like me. Now that the movie’s taken the world by storm, the surprises will play themselves out. So, I guess the big question is: Will audiences want to revisit this adventure and the feelings you ultimately left them with?
For me? My reluctant answer is: no. I don’t want to see Infinity War or Endgame again. Not really. Not in their entirety. I didn’t mind the slog through Infinity War in 2018 because I thought, Hey, maybe this is leading to an ultimately happy and satisfying conclusion for these characters I care about so much. And, to be fair—right up until the last 15 minutes of Endgame, I was ready to say, “All’s forgiven.”
There’s this thing in storytelling called “payoff.” It’s when you deliver a satisfying resolution or fulfillment to your audience after they commit to your narrative journey. Payoff can be extraordinarily subjective, so, again, I acknowledge that there’s no way to please everyone.
For me, there’s no reward in the resolution of Endgame that makes the slog to its conclusion worth it. Tony’s ending is so needlessly sacrificial, so unnecessarily brutal, that it erases much of the enjoyment I otherwise had in watching the entire rest of the film.
Don’t get me wrong. I like sad movies and scary movies in their own context. I like them when I can choose them and know that’s what I'm getting myself into. Sometimes I want the catharsis of being utterly terrified or brought to tears. Sometimes we need stories to give us the chance to feel deep and scary emotions in a safe environment. That’s an important function of creative work.
And, I mean, truly, Endgame gave us some great acting, great effects. Amazing talent. Really fun and creative moments. I’m not trying to disparage all the work that went into its making.
But I feel like someone took me in a limo to a high-class restaurant to eat caviar and watch sad arthouse theater when all I really wanted was to go into town with my friends for some ice cream and a fun movie.
I didn’t need rainbow-colored sprinkles on my ending, but something a bit sweeter would have been nice. So, well done, Marvel. But also—no, thank you.
As it stands, Endgame was too bitter for my taste.
you have seen 4 and half minutes of random low quality clips from a three hour movie. The Russo's are 3 for 3, and all test audiences have been raving about what they've seen from Endgame. You need to calm down until you actually see the film lol.
Tumblr media
guess you missed that part huh friend
(also one of my tags literally read ‘plush rants’, that doesn’t necessarily mean calm and collected response. this is a post i made to vent about possible outcomes for Endgame based off of my own concerns and opinions about what came out in the Clips. literally a ‘Dead Dove Do Not Eat’ kind of post)
On the Russo’s being 3 for 3, I’m gonna have to disagree there friend just bc... lord knows there are a LOT of issues with poor writing, plot contrivances, and plot holes with both Civil War and Infinity War that came directly out of their creative choices and views on the characters they are responsible for portraying.
For example, in Civil War:
When Ross was grilling the Avengers over what happened with New York, how is it that no one mentioned that the government outright TRIED TO NUKE NEW YORK CITY? There was a portion of the movie with Tony Stark flying the nuclear missile sent to destroy everything and everyone in one fell swoop - literal millions of innocent civilians - into the alien wormhole. How is it that no one tries to argue this on Team Cap’s team?
Who the heck hired Crossbones in Civil War to fcuk up the shit in Lagos? Was he still working for some fragment of HYDRA? What was his purpose there, what was his plan? He wanted revenge on Cap, but what was his plan to achieve that? Did Zemo hire him?
How is it that the Winter Soldier found the one place on an abandoned road where there was a convenient security camera showing him killing Tony’s parents in a way that there was no doubt those were the two people he was killing in the 80s/90s? did HYDRA put it there to watch it like a sports game, and if so, how did they tell Bucky that so he knew where to pull over, and how did they know the Starks’ travel plans to the point they could predict exactly where to run them off the road to that specific camera?
What was the point about the Five Winter Soldiers subplot, except to get Steve, Tony, and Bucky in one room together to watch the video tape of the Starks’ brutal murder? If the whole point was to turn the Avengers on each other, why not first split them apart, frame Steve as protecting a man who blew up the UN (even if it wasn’t him, the gen public still thinks this), then publicly release/show the video verifying that yes, this is a dangerous criminal and Cap is protecting him?
Does Zemo have a Crystal Ball to tell him everything that’s happening, in order to predict how everything fell perfectly into place? He orchestrated the UN bombing to frame Bucky, but how on earth did he account for the Lagos incident with Scarlet Witch, or the Sokovia Accords’ creation, or Black Panther’s involvement? How did he perfectly predict the fall of the Avengers and the stressors needed to force a split, to where Tony, Steve, and Bucky would be in place for him to bring them to the Tape of Dismay?
What was the point of including Ant-Man apart from the fight scene? Scott Lang’s entry into the MCU focused entirely on him trying to prove that he’s not a criminal and wants to do the best possible by his family and the world around him... only to throw it all away to break the law, fight with Captain America, and immediately get thrown in jail for it.
Maybe he didn’t fully understand what he was getting into, but what about Hawkeye, who has a wife and three kids? At the end of AOU, he was hoping to retire and live a peaceful life with his family, which was the whole reason Quicksilver died. Now his kids have no dad bc... why, exactly? He got bored? He wasn’t involved in anything leading up to the Accords like the Lagos explosion, why would he come back now? He knew full well what he was getting into when he joined Steve, and got arrested for it.What was the point except to flatten out the roster?
Why did Howard Stark decide to transport the Super Soldier Serum without any form of bodyguards nearby, ESPECIALLY with his wife in the car? Was the plan to transport it as quietly as possible while a heavily armored decoy distracted whoever was after it? If so, 1.) what danger/risk was there that required this method? 2.) did no one think to put a tracker on the Starks’ personal car while they were doing this, to ensure no bumps or hiccups? 3.) if there was a suspected leak at SHIELD, why would Howard endanger his wife needlessly under the guise of a normal drive out? (short answer: he’s a dick, but I digress) 4.) Who the heck were they trying to fool by driving around on back roads in the middle of nowhere? Where was their destination? (This branch of questioning I do recognize as not having enough time to flesh out, but the whole scenario raises a shitton of questions in general).
During all of this, where was Maria Hill? She was a higher up with SHIELD, and she was still free and alive. Fury was still presumed dead at large, I’m assuming, but wouldn’t she have tried to speak up, or was she keeping her head down?
And now, for Infinity War:
Why is it that when Thanos showed up, Loki didn’t use the Tesseract to open up a Portal to help all of the Asgardian refugees escape directly to Midgard, or even a nearby planet? Thor and Loki used it to transport back to Asgard at the end of Avengers: Assemble, and Thanos used it to teleport between planets effortlessly; while it cannot open massive wormholes on its own, it could still be used to transport people in between space, which Loki is known to excel at.
Why is it that, as Thanos was leaving the ship with Thor still alive, that Loki decided to call out to him, calling attention back to himself when they could have reconvened and sought out the Avengers to make a plan, all to try to stab him with a tiny knife?
Why didn’t Hulk show up before when Thanos was destroying/slaughtering the entire ship of Asgardian Refugees until Thor was captured and Heimdall was killed - why did he wait?
How did Bruce know to warn about Thanos, when he’s never shown any sign of being able to recall knowledge he learned as Hulk or memories during his time as the Hulk before now?
What the heck happened to Nova when Thanos went to retrieve the Power Stone? Wouldn’t the Guardians have been alerted when Nova attacked, given both their experience with the Stone and Gamora’s past with Thanos? How about the fact that StarLord can actually wield the stone somewhat? Wouldn’t they be a strong contender to stop Thanos, based on power and knowledge of him?
How about Rhodey suddenly deciding to turn his back on everything he fought for in Civil War without any sort of precursor than ‘he looks annoyed at Ross’ when Cap walks in?
What the heck are the logistics of Red Skull being the Ghost of Infinity Stone Past protecting an Infinity Stone he never encountered? Did the Tesseract transport him there as a protector, and if so, why doesn’t Thanos use the Tesseract to travel instantly to where the other stones are located? Why did the Tesseract transport the spirit of Red Skull to protect/conveniently explain the terms & conditions of the Soul Stone to anyone who came looking for it?
What was the point of killing half of all life to “preserve resources” or bc there weren’t “enough resources” for the populations when you kill half of all plants and animals in the universe as well? Did none of this occur to him as he was making the plan?
Doctor Strange said in Thor 3 that he keeps a watchlist on potential threats to Earth, which is how he knows about Loki - so why doesn’t he know about the Mad Titan with massive armies seeking the Infinity Stones at the beginning of IW?
For that matter, why didn’t Doctor Strange trap Thanos in a time loop like he did with Dormammu? Without the Time Stone, Thanos couldn’t escape, so why didn’t that come into play?
Also, what about Doctor Strange’s portal creating sling rings? If he had an issue with Tony Stark or Peter Parker being on the space ship, why not sling them back to Earth (or do they only work on Earth)?
For that matter, why not cut off Thanos’ hand with the Gauntlet USING these portals once they have him pinned? Could Thanos control his hand even as it was severed from his body?
Where the fcuk did the whole Wanda/Vision relationship bloom from, when they were on very opposite sides in Civil War, and Vision contributed to keeping her under house arrest? Where did romance even pop up there?
The Infinity Stones are supposed to be indestructible, as outlined in both GOTG and Thor TDW - how is it then that Wanda can destroy one now? Was it weakened by Shuri’s removal process (which was never aimed at destroying the Stone, only separating it from Vision without killing him)?
Vision was willing to sacrifice himself to destroy the Stone in his head and keep Thanos from winning, yet Steve goes ‘We don’t trade lives’, even when that wouldn’t be his decision to make - it’s Vision’s and he’s willing. Then they go to Wakanda to have the stone removed, and potentially hundreds of soldiers die bc that’s where Thanos’ armies landed down. They all knew that Thanos could track Vision (given that Steve and Natasha come to rescue him from the Black Hand at that subway station), so why risk the lives of thousands in Wakanda on the chance that he survives having it removed, only to have to destroy him anyways AFTER gods know how many have already died?
How was the Black Hand powerful enough to kill/maim/capture a host of Asgardians (who have been proven to have much higher durablity in regards to injuries in general) along with Thor, Loki, Heimdall, Hulk, and presumably Valkyrie, all of whom (save Hulk), have literal CENTURIES of fighting experience under their belts - and yet struggle and lose to mildly superpowered humans with far less durability to injuries than Asgardians (who live on average for 5000 years at a time, and have accelerated healing, as seen in both Avengers Assemble and the Agents of SHIELD tv series, which does share a level of canon to the main MCU)?
How could Thor withstand the full blast of a DYING STAR and be up again by holding his axe summoning the Bifrost’s power to heal him (????), yet not be capable of breaking out of Ebony Maw’s iron bars holding him in place in the first ten minutes of the movie?
How did Thor know exactly where to beam in via his Bifrost-wielding axe to Wakanda? Did the axe come with a GPS on finding ‘big ass battles’ to join in, or can it track Infinity Stones? If he stopped somewhere else to find out where to go, where did he go to and who told him? The Avengers didn’t exactly publicize the Infinity Stones or Thanos’ arrival, or leave too many people behind that Thor could easily touch base with.
For that matter, Thor arrived on Midgard before Thanos - with his Bifrost-powered axe, why not go to Titan where the rest of the Guardians are? He’s already with Rocket and Groot, so being able to track them down should be relatively simple to do on their end - why not meet up with them again? Why go to Midgard when he could have gone to face off against Thanos BEFORE HE GOT ALL 6 STONES?!? In fact, wouldn’t it make MORE sense to meet up with the rest of the Guardians than Midgard? They know about Thanos, they planned AFTER MEETING THOR to retrieve the Reality Stone - why wouldn’t Thor go back to them on this one?
And that’s just off the top of my head. Go looking in any Infinity War Critical tag, and you will find a thousand more.
If you mean 3 for 3 in terms of profit, definitely. Their upcoming movie outright crashed ticket ordering webpages for hours on end, to the point that to order tickets online, you had to wait your turn. As far as strong writing though? I would argue against that, based off of everything listed above and then some.
Fans on all sides have issues with pretty much every character’s portrayals, actions, and reactions, along with how the plot ultimately progressed. Steve Stans, Tony Stans, Thor Stans, Loki Stans, T’Challa Stans, Scarlet Witch Stans, Guardian Stans, Spider-Stans, Strange Stans, Hulk Stans - a lot of people looked at this film and found it lacking for all of these characters and their arcs, portrayals, their inconsistent capabilities after literally 20 films showing us everything they can do.
So while the Russos have done well financially for the MCU (and admittedly, made Civil War much less of a mess than it ever was in the comics - which is saying something about how absolutely fucked up the comics were), in terms of delivering satisfying conclusions for these characters, they’ve been found lacking again and again. Their idea of groundbreaking character work is to destroy or take away everything they love in absolutes, or to kill off characters to fuel Emotional Pain.
Thor didn’t have to lose everything to have an arc - neither did the Guardians. And while death will inevitably be a part of any Infinity War story, it’s extremely telling that the only deaths that left an impact are two of three that were NOT a result of being dusted - the ones we Know can’t be reversed so easily: Gamora and Loki. Characters that have suffered endlessly and received no happy ending with the people they cherish, after having lost so much already. The only characters dusted that people feel viscerally upset about that I’ve seen was Groot and Shuri, and the latter was only revealed recently in the Twitter campaign posters (and is also complete bullshit to pull on the audience - "randomly” kill off half the world, my ass, you killed off how many people in Wakanda and then some?!? No).
No one else’s death has left as much an impact in a story where half the world dies - and when the primary ending of your tragedy, having been built up to over a goddamn decade of films, leaves mostly a ‘meh’ feeling? You have failed to make people care, and failed as storytellers.
Mischief | Loki L.
A/N: Hello, this is probably going to be the longest one-shot that I will ever upload, but here it is, my submission for @bucky-at-bedtime‘s writing challenge. It is as fluffy and sassy as I could make it. I hope it’s up to standard. (prompt is after the cut)
Genre: Only the fluffiest. Well, there’s no angst, and it’s sorta just romance with the enemies-to-friends-to-lovers trope.
Warnings: Misunderstood phrases/innuendos (some people just have dirty minds), swearing, mentions of torture/maiming.
Word Count: 10 101 (I got carried away)
Blurb: (Y/N) ends up befriending Loki when he is dragged into the mess that is the Avengers by Thor and Odin’s orders. Queen of Pranks and Mischief on the team, Cheshire Cat lives up to her name, causing chaos on the streets and in the Compound. (Y/N) never expected enemies to friends to lovers to be so competitive and banter-filled, but caring and soft.
Prompt: “That was ONE time”
*DISCLAIMER: I DON’T OWN ANYTHING IN THIS BUT THE PLOT*
Tumblr media
The Compound has never been so hectic, Tony and Bruce were rushing around Loki-proofing and checking everything, the bird bros were perched high up, ready to snipe/knock out trouble when Thor and Loki eventually arrive, Rhodey and Vision were flying around, doing a perimeter check that the force field that Doctor Strange and Tony had created to protect against magical and technological attacks was holding up well, the super soldiers, excluding Natasha, were waiting near the Bifrost depot (T’Challa was with them, Shuri was in charge of Wakanda for the day that he was here reinforcing the image of the Avengers). This left the women to wander around and show Doctor Strange the inside of the Compound, as he had only been there once, and that was to help out with the force field.
The Bifrost lit up the sky, shooting towards them, and all the Avengers dropped what they were doing, and headed to the Bifrost, forming a ring around Thor and Loki. Everyone was armed and ready.
Loki was in a muzzle and chains connected at his neck and hips. Thor was in his usual Asgardian warrior’s armour.
“Friends! This is my brother, Loki of Asgard.”
“Ah yes, gold-green-black with the mind washing sceptre from New York. I think I’ve heard of him.” (Y/N) immediately responded, her mind not even registering what she was saying before she heard it. Oops. “Thank you for your clarification.” All eyes were on her. Double oops. The only person who looked mildly amused was Tony, Loki just looked like he was analysing every part of her, even though she was wearing her suit and her helmet over her head she felt like she was getting picked to pieces.
Thor ignored her comments, continuing an introduction. “In the ring are, by aliases, Black Widow, Iron Man, Black Panther, Captain America, White Wolf or Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Falcon, Cheshire Cat, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, the Vision, and the Hulk.” Loki almost imperceptibly flinched when Thor pointed at Bruce, and apparently (Y/N) was the only person who picked up on it.
Good. Black mail. (Y/N) thought to herself, an amused smirk on her lips underneath the helmet she wore. It was very similar to the Black Panther helmet, only it had a big, white, sharp-toothed smile along the bottom that looked almost like a muzzle, making her seem more feral.
With introductions done, Thor lead Loki inside the building, and the Avengers fell into rank, oldest members to newest, meaning that (Y/N) was at the back of the procession. She wasn’t happy with it, but she already had revenge planned out. Individual pranks for all.
The bedrooms had been planned out, a few people had to be kicked out of their original rooms, so that Loki’s room was in the centre of all their rooms, that way he was in the middle of it all. (Y/N) had ended up with a room right across from his, which meant that she had the perfect vantage point for messing with him.
And her ability made everything easier for her pranks. When you could phase through reality to turn intangible and invisible, but still see and hear things in the real world, it was kind of over-powered. And annoying for everyone who knew her.
But it made her the perfect spy and assassin, she could phase parts of her or things into this different reality and vice versa.
Thor was showing Loki to the interrogation rooms. It had been decided that Bruce was to interrogate Loki, because the Hulk was the only known person to be able to take Loki down, and by the looks of it, Bruce was the only one who truly scared Loki.
(Y/N) was to be the security, because with her super senses and enhanced physical attributes, she was stronger, faster and better than all the super soldiers put together, even though her lack of training was a huge disadvantage against someone who had clearly been trained.
Thor shoved a reluctant Loki into the room and filed into the room next door, which shared the left wall that was made entirely of one-way glass. Bruce followed Loki into the room, holding a file, and they immediately wordlessly took a seat, which was surprising because (Y/N) was almost certain that he would fight back. But she had seen the footage, and had to agree with Thor that Loki was under mind control and torture, but that didn’t mean he was problematic.
She might even lose her title as Queen of Pranks to him. She had to be careful.
The interrogation went peacefully, and (Y/N) removed Loki’s shackles and muzzle, using her ability to phase through existence to take them off him, before placing them on the table silently, and ushering him out of the room.
Thor got him to his room, and made sure he was as comfortable as a prisoner could be, before leaving.
It was time for first impressions. In a more relaxed environment.
First, (Y/N) consulted with Strange, asking if Loki was putting up wards and shields around his room like how they had expected him to, and Strange confirmed it.
Which meant that (Y/N) had to wait before the fun could begin.
Which prank would suit the god of mischief? Which prank would mess him up but make sure he doesn’t break? Which prank has she not implemented on the others?
Everyone saw the pensive look on (Y/N)’s face, and chose to avoid her, in case they were the target of her next masterpiece.
The prank was done and ready, Loki having left to explore the areas he could with Thor, (Y/N) had phased into the In-Between, where everything was grey and sound was warbled, and set up the prank, having by-passed the wards and shields by only phasing parts of herself in at a time.
The door slid open silently, and (Y/N) watched from the corner she hovered in, still in the In-Between. The prank was set into motion almost immediately, and nothing could stop the fact that a pie had been launched into Loki’s face, sprinkles had been released from above him and pink powder had been sprayed at him at all sides, sticking to his Asgardian garments.
(Y/N) had come prepared, with a camera, and phased through quick enough to catch a few pictures before Loki registered what had happened and went full-on rage-god mode.
He stormed out, the pie in hand and his face completely red.
“WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!” He scream-yelled, and (Y/N) phased her mouth through, rather like the Cheshire Cat, and let out a cackle, chasing after him, mouth still phased through and body still invisible.
Everyone had gathered in the common room, wanting to see what sort of mischief and chaos (Y/N) had caused and who the victim was this time.
When it was Loki, everyone paled and Thor approached Loki, who had calmed down slightly. (Y/N) phased back into reality, casually sauntering into the common room as if she had been somewhere else the entire time, clicking through the photos on the camera.
“You.” Loki snarled, storming towards (Y/N), regardless of Thor’s attempts to stop him (which just earned him a few knives to the chest). “You think yourself bold when you challenge a god? You think yourself strong when you manage to humiliate a god? You foolish child, I will-” (Y/N) slapped him, phasing him into the In-Between before he could finish the sentence, then continued over to sit on the couch, flicking through the few photos.
“FRIDAY, put the photos up on a hologram.” (Y/N) commanded calmly, and everyone watched wide-eyed, and Tony walked over, sitting beside (Y/N).
“Do you really think it was a good idea to do that to Loki on the first day?”
“Well, I did it to all you guys on the first day, I see no reason to treat the drama queen differently.” (Y/N) smirked, and Tony rolled his eyes. “Anyway, he’s in time out for a while now, I’ll phase him back when he’s more calm. He can’t touch anything when he’s in In-Between.”
“Phase something over there to entertain him, we can’t have him in a murderous mood when he comes back.” Steve said, more like ordered, but told (Y/N) lightly, which caused her to roll her eyes.
“Well, there are books in my room which I always keep in In-Between, just in case I trap someone like this, and considering that Loki is a bookworm and now has free-reign over where he goes as long as it’s in the Compound, then he should be fine.”
“How are you so sure he won’t leave the Compound?” Wanda asked fiercely.
(Y/N) sighed. If she knew she was going to be bombarded with questions when they found out what she did, she would never have done it. “Because he’ll get bored at some point and start wanting to come back into the real world. Even if he didn’t, he’d eventually fade out in the In-Between or succumb to the demons of the mind that live in the dimension next to it. Look, there’s a reason why I sent him there without hesitation. Just trust me on this, will you? I know you guys don’t trust me about anything else.” That stung her slightly, but it was true. After having pranked everyone mercilessly, everyone was wary of what she was doing, and whilst it was fun to play into it, it meant that no one truly wanted to know her and trust her.
The pictures stayed up and (Y/N) headed back to her room. She phased herself into the In-Between, and sure enough, there was a murderous Loki still covered in whipped cream, sprinkles and pink powdered sugar floating in the middle of her room.
He tried to storm towards her.
It didn’t work.
He tried to swim towards her.
It didn’t work.
He resorted to screaming at her.
“WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME?! TAKE ME BACK. I DEMAND YOU TO TAKE ME BACK, YOU MEWLING QUIM.” Loki yelled at her, and (Y/N) rolled her eyes.
“I would prefer if you didn’t call me a whining cunt, but we all have our pet peeves. When you calm down and pull your masks back up, I’ll let you back into the real world. You are no different from the rest, they won’t think you stupid, they’ll more likely empathise with you because they’ve all been pranked countless times by me. Now those books over there are for you, read them, calm down, and if you ruin them, I might just kill you.” (Y/N) said calmly, ignoring the fact that Loki was glaring daggers at her. Taking him in one more time, (Y/N) noticed that he had a light dusting of pink on his cheeks. “Would you prefer it I phased your bathroom into the In-Between for you so you can clean up?”
Loki sneered at her. “Yes.” Came the reply through gritted teeth. (Y/N) reached out towards him, and Loki simply crossed his arms, and (Y/N) shrugged. If the handsome, arrogant man wouldn’t cooperate, then she wouldn’t help.
Handsome? Where did that thought come from?
Well, he is pretty handsome- STOP IT.
(Y/N) ran-swam-flew towards his room, and Loki took it as a sign to follow. He tried using the same actions as (Y/N), but he still didn’t move.
“You have to project it with your mind, and move your body along as well.” (Y/N) called out behind her. Loki caught up in a few seconds. (Y/N) focused, phasing things through reality was difficult when you were trying to phase an entire bathroom and make sure that the piping still worked.
A few seconds later, Loki entered the newly-phased bathroom and (Y/N) turned around to disassemble the prank, making sure everything was clean and the crime scene was as it was before she touched it. By the time that (Y/N) was done, Loki was back in her room, and she phased Loki’s bathroom back into existence, then went over to her bedroom to find Loki peacefully reading, court mask back in place.
“Are you ready to return to the real world?”
“Yes.” Loki responded immediately. “My magic doesn’t work here and I am finding it most uncomfortable.”
“Well, you better get used to it, because it’s my job to control you if you get out of control.” (Y/N) told him, grabbing his wrist and taking an annoyed Loki down to the common room to move him back into the real world, then followed him back into reality. The amount of time spent in the In-Between caused (Y/N) to feel like rubber, all pulled out and stretchy, and gave her a headache.
Tony stormed into the common room to see (Y/N) let go of Loki’s wrist and wipe it on her leg in a disgusted fashion, and Loki turn his head away from her as if he smelled something unpleasant. “(Y/N). Tell me why Loki’s bathroom disappeared for about half an hour.” Tony demanded, and (Y/N) grinned at him cheekily.
“Why don’t you ask Loki himself. I’m going to the training area for a few hours. See ya later.”
“There better not be a prank set up there later!” Tony called after her and she turned around as she jogged backwards.
“That was ONE time.” (Y/N) called back at Tony, “I never repeat pranks!” She shouted, before the jog turned into a run, and developed into a sprint that was faster than light. Tony shook his head in exasperation. (Y/N) always ran faster than sound just for the sonic boom and to show off just how fast she could be.
He turned around to face a disinterested Loki. “So, Reindeer Games what happened?”
“I needed to clean up, and that pathetic little mortal wouldn’t let me into this realm again, so she moved the entire bathroom into what she called the In-Between.” Loki told him monotonously. “Please give her this message from me: If you, little mewling quim, even attempt to pull a trick like that again, then I will dismember you, decapitate you, and disembowel you.”
“(Y/N) would like me to pass this message on to Loki: Suck my dick, asshole. I can hear you.” FRIDAY said seconds later, and Tony laughed.
“I think you’re going to have to watch your tongue, Horny.”
FRIDAY spoke up again. “Now Miss (Y/N) would like Mr Stark to know that in her own words: If you call the drama queen ‘horny’ again, you will be defenestrated on sight, because no one wants to tell him what it means.” Tony grinned and rolled his eyes.
“Well, (Y/N), I won’t call him that again, but that doesn’t mean he won’t ask. And technically, you can’t blame me because you didn’t tell me what nicknames are out of bounds beforehand.” Tony called out, heading down to the labs, leaving Loki to be his dramatic self and stare out the window ominously.
(Y/N) lightly hit the punching bag. Lightly because she wasn’t putting any effort in, but it was swinging hard, making her need to dodge to the side otherwise it would hit her. Tony and Shuri had made this design specifically for (Y/N) and Thor, and sometimes the super soldiers, to enjoy because it wouldn’t break after the first few hits, and it was infused with vibranium so it absorbed some of the impact.
“So the kitten has claws.” A smooth, yet irritating voice pulled (Y/N) out of her pranking ideas. She had a pretty one-tracked mind when it came to her activities, especially since she was pronounced dead to the world, and had a new alibi.
“Come over here and I’ll show you how sharp they are.” (Y/N) retorted easily to Loki’s jab, and easily broke the punching bag with the next punch, making eye contact whilst her fist flew through it.
She was barely sweating.
Loki smirked and walked over, his long legs in tightly fitted leather pants made the journey rather short, and (Y/N) found herself momentarily distracted, because he was still in his warrior’s garments, as Thor called them. His eyes flashed green, and a knife appeared in his hand. He slashed viciously at (Y/N), and she smirked, dodging easily.
“Ooh, what are you going to do to me with that butter knife, eh Lucky?” (Y/N) jabbed quickly to his ribs, faster than him. She had proved to be stronger, faster and lighter than Captain America, and even Thor, even though she needed a lot more energy than both of them combined for her fast metabolism.
But they were mostly evenly matched, as Loki was raised a warrior, and (Y/N) had next to no experience, except when in the field. Even then, she had a few moments before she joined the fight to analyse how the enemy side fought.
“No luck, all skill.” Loki retorted through gritted teeth, causing (Y/N) to smirk. She was barely panting, and now was just batting his wrists away as he came at her with twin blades.
“Brother! Lady (Y/N)! Fight in the ring!” Thor boomed from the weights corner, and (Y/N) took the moment that Loki was distracted to jump and do a quick spinning kick to Loki’s head, causing it to snap to the side, painfully, but not fatally so. Loki landed with a small thud, and (Y/N) watched, hands still up guarding her head, and jumped when Loki swept his legs underneath (Y/N).
“That was a lucky shot.” Loki growled, glancing towards Thor, who was now coming over.
Thor grabbed (Y/N) and Loki by the back of their clothes and threw them into the ring. “Stay in there if you’re going to fight.” Then he left the room.
Loki launched himself at (Y/N) again, and (Y/N) kept mostly to the defensive, but when she saw a big, glaring hole in Loki’s defence, she couldn’t help but jab, or kick at him. Every time she did, she caught Loki by surprise.
“Look how well this kitten is holding up against the turtle. Even without weapons.” (Y/N) teased him, bouncing from foot to foot. Honestly, turtle seemed a lot more appropriate than snake, because of how slow he seemed compared to her.
“Summon a weapon.” Loki snapped at her, still trying to stab her, or at least pin her down. (Y/N) saw another hole in his defence and lunged, jabbing with her fingertips at the soft spot between the ribs and the hips, his elbow instinctively protected the side once hit, revealing Loki’s abdomen, meaning (Y/N) could hit his solar plexus. And hit it she did, side piercing kick to the solar plexus, double storey kick to his nose as he bent over, momentarily breathless. Loki ended up falling onto his back, and (Y/N) swept her leg over him, kicking his wrists and causing his knives to fly out of his hands. She snatched the flying weapons from the air and held one to his neck, and the other to his eye as she sat on his stomach.
“I can’t summon things.” (Y/N) gave him a smirk, Loki was panting, and no doubt sweating in all that leather, and whilst (Y/N) was panting, she wasn’t sweating all that much because of the very few garments she was wearing. Only a loose singlet, which had a few rips in it from when Loki had managed to hit her, and some tights. Purple and black, respectively. But now they had rips in them, and she was bleeding above the eyebrow and in other various places. Apparently Loki hadn’t been going flat out, because whilst she had cuts, she hadn’t been stabbed.
“Oh.” Loki responded breathlessly, glancing between the knives and her hands. Then, “You’re holding them wrong.”
“Well, I apologize, because I’ve never handled blades professionally.” (Y/N) settled her breathing, after a lot of practice, she was used to having to slow her breathing down after a battle in case there were paparazzi or reporters at the scene before they could escape. “Do you yield?” She asked, and Loki nodded slightly.
“I yield.” Loki whispered, and (Y/N) glanced at his lips just in time to see his tongue dart out. Without hesitation, (Y/N) stood up, wanting to get away from the guy and sort out her thoughts and feelings.
It wasn’t a surprise that when someone who had a different body type and a different fighting style to catch her interest, because most of the Avengers who fight with hand-to-hand combat had the same fighting techniques, the same build, and always used the same fighting pattern, but not once did (Y/N) find a repeated pattern of techniques in Loki’s fight.
He was unpredictable. Therefore, dangerous. (Y/N) threw the knives at him languidly and heard him catch them as he stood up and as she walked towards the edge of the boxing ring, jumping easily over the fence and landing in a crouch so that she didn’t injure her joints too badly from the small jump.
Natasha met her halfway with a water bottle and a towel. “You know you could have decked him in the first two minutes.” (Y/N) took the towel and glanced towards where Thor was talking quietly with his brother. “Why didn’t you?”
“I wanted to see his arsenal. I wanted to see what he could do. He doesn’t fight like you guys, not even like Thor. He doesn’t have a pattern, he’s unpredictable. And I want to figure him out.”
“You got the hots for him?” Natasha asked, smirking. “You got the hots for Loki, (Y/N)?”
(Y/N) looked at her shocked, and laughed. “Hell no. He’s interesting, but I doubt he could hold my interest for longer than a week.” That didn’t taste right in her mouth. She could feel the lie spill out of her lips.
“I bet three weeks.”
“And I bet two weeks. What are we betting on?” Clint approached them, and (Y/N) high-fived him.
“How long Loki will hold my attention.”
“Oh come on, that’s an easy one, probably only a few days at most.”
“Hey, he’s rather interesting. He doesn’t fight like anyone I know. Or have fought before.”
“He’s a god.” Clint said with a deadpan expression. “He’s not meant to be predictable by us ‘pathetic mortals’.”
“He doesn’t fight like Thor. Thor has a pattern too, Loki doesn’t.” (Y/N) told him, before downing the entire water bottle. Faster and stronger meant she needed more fuel and more liquids.
Nat returned with another bottle, (Y/N) didn’t even notice when she disappeared. She downed all of the water again and thanked Natasha.
“So how much are we betting?” (Y/N) asked the two adults. “I change my bet to four weeks.”
“Fine, we’ll bet $10 because I’m pretty broke.” Clint added, and they all nodded in agreement, before breaking up. Natasha walked over to the boys casually, and (Y/N) hoped that she didn’t say anything about her. She didn’t want to hear what they were talking about anyway. Clint walked away, and scaled up a wall before disappearing into a vent in the wall.
Sighing, (Y/N) walked over to the targets and picked up a bow and a quiver full of arrows. She shot all the targets, they were placed a few metres back one after the other, and she got the bullseye for each one. It was just luck. Usually, she got bullseye for just over half.
She shot again.
And it was back to normal, she got the inner rings for the last few, which wasn’t surprising.
Someone grabbed her from behind and spun her around. “My brother says that you are a worthy warrior!” Thor put her down, and (Y/N) winced at the likely damage that Thor had caused.
“Uh, thanks? But I doubt that compliment came from him, he hates my guts.” (Y/N) told him, and Thor shook his head.
“Quite the opposite, you two would get along quite well actually.”
“Okay, thanks…?” (Y/N) wasn’t how to respond to that. Loki had, after all, attacked her first, and lashed out when she pranked him for the first time.
“When he stops acting like a child, that is.” Thor grinned, and (Y/N) laughed, giving him a side hug, then letting go quickly.
“I’m going to go practice with some of the daggers first, then go wash myself for dinner. I think the other girls are having a girls’ night.”
“Why have you not been included?”
“I have business to attend to.” (Y/N) gave him a cheeking grin, and he shook his head in an exasperated manner as she skipped away to practice with the throwing knives.
(Y/N) was careful not to make a single sound as she crept around the Compound that night. She needed to set up a few traps, to get the others back for pushing her to the back of their little procession from the morning.
Tony would find that everything in his bedroom has an ‘I ❤ JUSTIN HAMMER!’ sticker on it.
Steve would find a rather surprising thing attached to his shield (a lot of diamantes that make an Iron Man helmet over the star).
Bucky had magnets on his arm. Also, with an Iron Man helmet over his star.
Wanda would find all her favourite red leather jackets missing, and they would return to her in hot pink.
Vision was difficult to prank. (Y/N) decided that she had to hack into his programming, and now every time he said no he would say ‘HELL YEAH’.
Rhodey wasn’t staying at the Compound, so he was untouchable, as were Strange and T’Challa.
Bruce would find a Hulk sticker on every surface of his room. She knew it wouldn’t bother Bruce too much, and that was the purpose, she didn’t want the Hulk to make an appearance.
Hawkeye would find that his bow and arrows had gone missing, leaving him with an empty quiver with a note that said ‘Check the vents, pigeon fart.’ The arrows were completely replaced with confetti arrows, and his bow was hot pink.
Natasha was too risky to prank, (Y/N) had labelled her as the untouchable one early on. So she just stuck a Black Widow sticker on her forehead without Natasha noticing and left it at that. If anyone asks, it wasn’t her.
Sam would find his wings with diamantes that spelled out ‘I ❤ BUCKY BARNES.’
And finally, Thor would find Mjolnir missing. He would freak out that someone else could wield Mjolnir and have the powers of himself, but it would turn out that (Y/N) had simply shifted Mjolnir into the In-Between. She couldn’t lift Mjolnir just yet, but she could shift the reality that Mjolnir existed in.
As she snuck out of her room to begin setting up the pranks, she saw Loki close his door behind him and stopped in her tracks.
He froze too.
(Y/N) spoke first. “Where are you going?”
“I could ask you the same question.” Loki responded, putting his hands in his pockets in a relaxed position, even though his face was closed up, showing no emotions. (Y/N) noticed that he was wearing dark green sweat pants and a black shirt with his golden horned helmet on it, the shirt that Tony had put in his wardrobe as a joke. For some reason the casual wear made him hotter.
Wait, what?
Never mind.
(Y/N) quickly phased the bag that held all her pranking materials in it into the In-Between before Loki could snatch it from her.
“I asked you first.” She retorted.
“And I asked you second.”
“I asked you first, I get my answer first.”
“Fine then, as long as you don’t expose me.”
“Of course not. I would never go back on my pranker’s truce. Even though I’ve never met another active pranker in this Compound.” (Y/N) told him in a hushed whisper, then tilted her head to the side. She quickly grabbed his wrist and they both disappeared just as Tony came around the corner muttering about improvements he could make to the suit. He paused for one second, in between (Y/N) and Loki’s doors, glancing between them, then continued on his way and went inside his room.
(Y/N) let out a relieved sigh, then realised she had pressed herself against Loki out of instinct to stay on the wall. She blushed and stepped back, praying that Loki wouldn’t take note of the blush, but whatever gods were listening sure hated her, because Loki smirked. “I was planning on making all the coffee in the Compound disappear.” He told her, but the stupid smirk was still on his face. Oh how (Y/N) wanted to slap that smirk right off his smug face.
(Y/N) scowled, then her face lit up as she replied. “Sorry, but I did that already, when I learned of how the great Tony Stark was a coffee addict.”
Loki scowled. “But it hasn’t been done by me.”
“I have a better idea for you, Mister Serious Guy, how about you replace all the coffee in the Compound with decaf, and keep it that way for a few months, then replace everything with coffee again and watch how everyone goes crazy rom the sudden caffeine? I was planning on doing it a few months ago, but I got caught up with a few other faster pranks. I feel like this is more your style.” (Y/N) told him excitedly, Loki compared her to a puppy and couldn’t find the difference.
“Fine, I will do your method, but now you need to tell me what’s going on with you.” Loki gestured towards her bag, and (Y/N) gave him a dangerous smirk.
“I’m getting them back for shoving me to the back of the little procession this morning.” (Y/N) told him, and quickly tiptoed to Tony’s room, and stuck her head through the door. Tony was actually going to sleep.
He must be super stressed for that to happen.
Maybe she shouldn’t go through with this.
She didn’t want to make Tony feel worse.
She already regretted millions of the pranks that she did to the others.
Maybe….
Loki was watching. She knew he was, so she returned to him, grabbed his wrist, trying not to let her face burn up because the last time she did this she ended up pressed against him, and phased him back into reality.
He blinked, but shrugged and padded away to where all the coffee was held, in the kitchen, in the private kitchens, he would have to do everywhere.
By the time that they finished their respective pranks, it was nearly sun rise, meaning the super soldiers and Sam would probably head out for their early morning run. Loki found (Y/N) waiting in front of her door, arms crossed and looking out for him. As soon as he got there, she grabbed his wrist and dragged him into her room.
“I can’t let you ruin this for me.” (Y/N) started, glancing around and listening for any heartbeats within earshot. “Say that you solemnly swear that you are up to no good. And mean it. Then say you solemnly swear you will abide by the rules of the pranksters’ truce.”
“I solemnly swear I’m up to no good.” Loki took a deep breath, as if it pained him to tell the truth. “And I solemnly swear to abide by the rules of the pranksters’ truce.”
“Good, now neither of us are allowed to throw the other under the bus, figuratively speaking, and neither of us are allowed to rat each other out. We’re also not allowed to take credit for another’s prank. I hate it when that happens.” (Y/N)’s voice took an edge on the last statement. “Well, mischief managed. For tonight.” She swiped at his wrist again to phase them into In-Between, but Loki shifted his hand at the last minute so that she caught his hand instead.
A blush crept up her neck and only her face, and Loki was watching, amused, as she stuck her head out of the door.
Sam was walking towards the common room, and she could hear Steve and Bucky getting ready in their respective rooms.
She pulled him across the hallway and they walked right through the door, she dumped Loki in his room before he could ask anything and returned to her room to phase back into reality.
Time to do her usual ‘I just woke up’ look after a long night of setting up pranks.
The first scream started. Tony. He must have woken up to all the Justin Hammers.
The next yell was slightly deeper, Bucky, he must have just noticed that he had an Iron Man symbol on his arm.
There was a scramble, and then multiple yells.
Loki and (Y/N) walked out of their room in sync, both with their hair slightly messed up, but there were definitely bags underneath (Y/N)’s eyes.
There was a lot of laughs and yelling, so (Y/N) decided to skip breakfast and head straight to the training centre.
Apparently Loki had the same idea, because he trailed after her.
“I thought you wanted to see the panic you caused by replacing the decaf. I only pranked the Avengers, they’re used to it, but the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents will be affected by your prank too.” (Y/N) spoke without turning around to acknowledge Loki’s presence.
Loki caught up in a stride, hands in the pockets of the completely black suit he was sporting today. “Well, I don’t want to be around when fingers are getting pointed.”
“But you are the God of Lies.”
“My silver tongue may not be all that effective on people used to dealing with criminals, lies and alibis.” He responded almost immediately, and (Y/N) nodded thoughtfully.
“I guess that makes sense. Want to spar again? I must admit, you don’t fight like anyone I know.”
“I don’t?” Loki looked curious now.
“Yes, you fight rather differently. You fight a little like me, and a little like Natasha, and a little like something I’ve never seen before. Like Natasha and I, you use speed and size to get yourself around in a fight. But you fight like yourself because I have never, once, seen you use the same combination of techniques in one fight.” (Y/N) explained. “I’m curious to see if you will use the same combinations if we fight again.” Loki raised an eyebrow.
“I didn’t know you were paying so much attention to how I move.” Loki gave her an infuriating smirk, and (Y/N) took in a deep breath, accidentally taking in his scent as well, minty with the slightly woodsy, musky scent of a man. She choked, coughing and trying to wave away the blush that the smell had brought on. It wasn’t normal to blush when you smell someone else, right?! She was going insane!
Loki had an even more infuriating smirk on his face. “Are you o-”
(Y/N) held up a hand as he eyes watered. All she could smell was his scent, flooding her nose again. “Don’t you freakin’ dare. You know what happened and you know exactly what you’re doing.” (Y/N) spoke quickly, the blush still prominent on her cheeks, but she was no longer choking on nothing.
Loki just smirked and kept on working. The smug bastard knew exactly what he was doing.
How could she get him back? Oh right, wear her most revealing clothing to the next entire-team meeting. Even if that could attract some unwanted attention.
Ah yes. Revenge would be so, so sweet.
Hopefully.
They sparred, and surprisingly, Loki’s fighting style seemed to have changed to suit his size compared to hers. His fighting style was suited to someone who was used to fight against someone bigger himself.
That night, (Y/N) could be found scavenging through her wardrobe, until she found the bikini and the (rather) revealing dress that Natasha had forced her to buy.
Natasha would understand what she was doing.
Her plan was to go to the joint dinner in this outfit, then invite someone along with her to go to the pool.
And Loki would probably follow, suspicious of what she was doing.
It worked. At dinner, almost no one asked after Tony made the first comment. “(Y/N), why are you wearing a dress?” It was a well-known fact that (Y/N) did not like wearing dresses in her spare time because they were just so uncomfortable and so difficult to fight in them, but today she had put on her most revealing dress on, something that she usually saved for missions where she had to be the ‘damsel in distress’.
“I wanted to go to the pool afterwards, and dresses are easy to take off so I put my swimsuit on underneath.” (Y/N) said nonchalantly, and Loki’s eyes snapped to her face, narrowed and suspicious. Tony had opened his mouth again, but (Y/N) put a hand up to cut him off. “And yes, I know the rule, I need to bring someone along with me. Anyone want to come with me?”
There was a silence, then Bucky put up his hand hesitantly. “I’ll go.” Everyone looked at him. “What? A gentleman would let the lady do what she wants to, and I don’t mind going swimming under the stars.” He winked, and (Y/N) laughed. It was working perfectly.
“Okay! I’m done here anyway, I’ll quickly go grab a towel and wait for you in the lounge.” (Y/N) told him cheerily, pointedly not making any eye contact with Loki. When he did see Loki out of her peripheral vision, she saw that he was definitely suspicious and just a tiny bit pink. With frustration, anger, annoyance or hatred, she wasn’t sure.
But she was sure that he knew that she was up to something.
Bucky came back into the room a few minutes later, shirtless with just his swimming bottoms, and (Y/N) had to admit he was rather well-built, but he wasn’t her type. He had a towel around his shoulders, and (Y/N) bounced to his side, her towel was around her shoulders as well.
“Aren’t you going to change?” Bucky asked, slightly confused.
(Y/N) shrugged and turned her back to the others. “Yeah, I’ll change down there.” She grabbed his arm and bounced out the door.
“Wait! I wish to accompany you too! I would like to know what a pool is.” Loki called out at the last minute, and (Y/N) gained a vicious smile, but her back was still turned so no one but Bucky could see her facial expression. Bucky looked confused. She turned around with an innocent smile
“Play along.” (Y/N) whispered into Bucky’s ear, and nodded at Loki, who quickly disappeared. He came around the corner a few minutes later, with a towel and his normal clothing. (Y/N) raised an eye brow. “Are you changing down there as well?” (Y/N) asked innocently, and Loki nodded stiffly.
“What is a pool?” He was laying his lie down thickly, and (Y/N) was willing to play along. Bucky just stood between them, slightly confused at what he was just dragged into. It took a few moments, and a glance at Natasha for him to finally understand what was going on. He wasn’t a master assassin and spy for no reason.
“A pool is like a manmade lake for swimming and recreational purposes. Our pool has pretty lights on the bottom so I usually go out there at night!” (Y/N) turned to Bucky with a mock-stern expression. “Don’t tell Tony I come out here on my own.” Bucky nodded with a small smirk.
The walk to the pool was quiet, Loki seemed to brood in his own thoughts behind Bucky and (Y/N), Bucky was simply walking with his eyes straight ahead, and (Y/N) was bouncing along like a child, because why not? They did always have way too much energy after eating because their super strength and muscles absorbed the energy all at once, and meant that she needed more energy than a normal human.
As soon as they reached the pool, (Y/N) threw her towel over the fence and kicked off her shoes, running a hand through her hair and turning to the boys, who were looking at the pool, rather curiously, because where were the lights that (Y/N) promised them?
“FRIDAY? Initiate Disco sequence.” (Y/N) called out, smirking. Tony had insisted that it be called ‘Disco sequence’ for no particular reason, but it was hilarious, because it made the pool actually look like an underwater disco.
She quickly pulled the small, tight-fitting dress off and hung it next to the towel, turning around to see Loki watching her with hungry eyes. She gave him a teasing, sultry smile, and glanced at Bucky, who had hung his towel near the pool gate and was staring, mesmerised by the laser lights.
She ran, trusting her quick step and impeccable balance that was almost feline would make sure she didn’t fall. As soon as she reached the edge of the pool, she dove, and entered the freezing-cold water with the smallest ripple.
Pushing off the bottom, she breached the surface and took a deep breath, before floating onto her back and glancing at the boys.
Bucky looked mildly amused, and had started to walk towards the pool, but a hand on his shoulder stopped him, and turned him around. Loki stared down at Bucky, who had put a mildly confused expression up for the game’s sake. He could see the power game clear as day. Obviously, Loki had had to be winning earlier for (Y/N) to have to pull this sort of move.
He recalled the previous morning, when they seemed to be ready to rip each other’s throats out, but now (Y/N) and Loki seemed to have made a deal and let their anger fizzle out, instead opting for a power game.
“Yes?” Bucky prompted innocently.
“What is she trying to do?”
Bucky snorted and Loki’s question. “I think you know. As I see it, it’s a power game between you and her. Obviously, she’s trying to do some sort of seduction technique, she’s wearing the bikini and dress that Natasha had bought her, and she asked people to go with her to the pool. She’s trying to tempt her. And she’s tempting a lot more people than you.”
Loki’s grip on Bucky’s good shoulder tightened a fraction, his mask cracking ever so slightly. “What do you mean, she’s tempting a lot more people than me?”
“I did offer to go with her to the pool. Natasha was the one who bought her the dress and bikini. Sam flirts with her, and she returns his playful flirting. She’s dangerous, and there are a lot of idiots on this team who are attracted to danger like moths to a flame.” Bucky shrugged, and smirked, this was a power game between Loki and himself right now. Loki was trying to use his height and size to intimidate Bucky, but he wasn’t going to allow that to happen.
“Hey boys! Are you going to join me or not?” (Y/N) called out from her spot in the pool, and Loki glanced over at (Y/N), his hand still on Bucky’s shoulder, and his grip tightened slightly.
“Don’t touch what is mine.”
“Well, she’s not yours yet.” Bucky shrugged Loki’s hand off his shoulder, and turned to (Y/N), before running and jumping into the pool with a big splash. Bucky landed at the bottom as well, and looked up to see that (Y/N) was staring over at Loki, probably having a staring contest. Bubbles left his mouth in exasperation. He didn’t not want to get dragged into this sexual tension. Or whatever tension this was.
Bucky launched himself up, and as he got to the surface, he swept (Y/N) into a bridal-style hold, and (Y/N) laughed, bopping him on the nose. Bucky swam them down to the shallow end, so that they could touch the bottom, and didn’t need to turn around to know that Loki was glaring daggers into the back of his head.
As soon as (Y/N) could touch the floor, he started the tickling and (Y/N) squealed, giggling and squirming in his arms. She escaped and swam as far as she could from him.
They chased each other around for a while, whilst Loki just floated in the middle of them, glowering.
(Y/N) decided to make her next move. “Loki!” She called out as a warning, before she attached herself to him, climbing up his tall body and perched on his rather slim, compared to Thor’s, shoulders in order to avoid Bucky. Loki immediately stood up to his full height, and held a hand up to (Y/N) instinctively, but she ignored it, her cat-like balance keeping her from falling off. That, and the fact that she had laced her fingers through Loki’s silky hair.
Bucky paused, looking at how Loki was glaring down at him.
Bucky sighed, and the question that was burning inside him finally spilled out as he sank into the water until it was up to his neck. “What happened between you last night that made you two so… trusting? So much closer? Just not as hateful towards each other?” He asked.
“Well…” (Y/N) jumped off Loki’s shoulders and let the water absorb the impact of her landing, before turning around and glancing at Loki, who gave her a miniscule nod. “We became partners in crime. And no duo can work together if there is bad blood between them. Loki got out his anger when we sparred, and we bonded over torturing people.”
“Of course! You and Loki! How could I not have seen that?” Bucky lied right through his teeth, and Loki narrowed his eyes but said nothing.
“Yeah, how could I not be friends, or at least acquaintances with the god of trickery. The goddess of pranks, and the god of trickery.” (Y/N) gave him a smirk, and sunk down to her neck in the water to join Bucky. “So, Loki, are we partners, or acquaintances?”
“Partners.” Loki answered immediately, albeit slightly softly, and (Y/N) smirked internally. It was working. And maybe her crush on her idol wasn’t as one-sided as it was originally thought to be.
Thor did say that they would probably get along quite well.
“Should we be scared?” Bucky asked teasingly, he ruffled (Y/N)’s hair, and she chuckled before giving him a devilish smirk.
“Probably.” Loki and (Y/N) said in unison, although Loki said it in a monotonous voice, his eyes narrowed on Bucky’s hand, and (Y/N) had said it in a cheeky manner.
Bucky shivered. “I think I should get out now. Unlike you two, I’m not immune to the cold.” Bucky did have goose bumps climbing up his back and flesh arm, but he mostly just wanted to get away from the two demons. The corner of Loki’s lips tilted upwards in a smug smile, and Bucky paused to analyse Loki’s slightly altered poker face, then shrugged it off.
“(Y/N), don’t stay out too long, we don’t want you to catch a cold.” Bucky told (Y/N) as he climbed out of the pool, walking over to grab his towel without looking back.
“I can’t get sick anyway. And I’m sure Loki will pester me if we stay too long for his poor, royal behind.” (Y/N) told him cheekily, and Loki rolled his eyes, and as soon as Bucky had gone inside, he turned around to look at (Y/N).
“Do you like him romantically or sexually?” Loki demanded, his face set in stone, the small, triumphant smile was gone, and his poker face had been reset.
(Y/N) looked confused. What the hell did he mean? She could never like Bucky like that, Bucky was like a brother to her. “No.” (Y/N) replied in an almost disgusted tone. “I mean, I don’t like him romantically or sexually, and I never could, he’s like a brother to me.”
Loki gave her a cold smile, and replied with one word, before sinking underwater. “Good.” (Y/N) looked at him through the water, slightly baffled. What gave him the idea that she would have a crush on Bucky?
(Y/N) swam a few laps to get her blood pumping and to let her sort out her thoughts, then she floated on her back when Loki came back up.
“Do you have any romantic or sexual interest in anyone on the team?” Loki asked as he waded over.
“Depends on who you count as on the team. Strange could be considered as a part of the team, and not a part of the team. Quill, Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Drax and Mantis are technically not a part of the team. And you, yourself, fall into a completely different category.” (Y/N) replied thoughtfully, floating around peacefully in the pool allowed her thoughts to be heard, instead of just sitting at the back of her mind, because her opinion never mattered. Well, they might have mattered to some of the team, but she usually ignored them.
Loki seemed to sink into his own thoughts. “Do you have a romantic or sexual interest in anyone currently in the Compound?” He rephrased the question to include himself.
“Yes.” (Y/N) answered almost instantaneously, then winced. “How about you answer that question as well, to make it fair.”
“Life isn’t fair.”
“If it were, then I’d be dead.” (Y/N) replied, and let her feet sink down so that she was facing Loki. “Tell me, do you have a romantic or sexual interest in anyone currently in the Compound?”
Loki hesitated. “Yes.” (Y/N) gave him a dangerous smile. There was a glint in her eyes that made him nervous, considering how she had managed to completely take him by surprise on his first day, when his guard was up, he was nervous about what she could do if his guard was down.
She analysed his facial expression, and he kept it neutral, narrowing his eyes as her eyes landed on his. “Interesting.” She replied nonchalantly, then continued to float on her back.
Loki was confused. “Aren’t you going to ask me who it is?”
“It’s none of my business. It’s probably some new intern you managed to prank or one of the Avengers that you found reading your favourite book. Someone with the same interest as you, but difficult to break so you can keep on pranking them, keep on tricking them, and keep on lying to them. So that you don’t have to change yourself to suit their needs. Isn’t that what we all look for in a significant other?” (Y/N) asked rhetorically, and Loki watched her carefully. It only took a few laps of the pool and the disappearance of anyone on the team for this girl to change form childish to contemplative. (Y/N) glanced at Loki briefly. “What’s wrong? Did I say something wrong?”
“No…” Loki said carefully. “You just surprised me.” (Y/N) laughed, the sound making Loki swallow hard.
“How could I, a lowly Midgardian, surprise a Prince of the Asgardian Court, the God of Lies, the Trickster with a Silver Tongue. How could I lie to the Rightful King of Jotunheim, the God of Daggers and Knives, the shapeshifting, Seidr-wielding, illusion-casting, clone-creating Frost Giant, who could claim two throne through only one death?” (Y/N)’s eyes seemed to sharpen as she took in Loki’s surprised expression. “I do my research. And dam, does your brother talk when it comes to his family. He loves you, but all you’ve done is prank and trick him.” She continued, watching his reactions as she tried to cut him deeply, but he seemed to have closed off. “You think you are a monster, but you forget what you’ve done, what you were, who you were, are all from the past. Everyone is the hero in their own story, make yourself the hero in others. You won’t always be the saviour, the angel from heaven, you won’t always win, but you can sure as hell try.” (Y/N) told him quietly, Loki’s eyes had glazed over as soon as she stopped speaking, and a soft smile tugged at her lips.
“Not everyone hates you. There is hope for you yet. You just have to let go of the past.” (Y/N) finished and hugged him lightly. She could see pain on anyone. It just seemed to be a sixth sense, she could just feel the pain that someone else could. Maybe it was an extra power? She didn’t care, as long as she could help people with it, she kept it close to her.
Pulling away, she swam to the edge, pulling herself out of the pool and looking down at her fingertips, wincing at the prune-like skin that was there from staying in the water for too long, before walking over to the towel and wrapping it around herself, and turning around to almost bump into a Loki who was just standing inside her personal space.
“How did you do that?”
“Do what?” (Y/N) didn’t know exactly what she did, she just talked. Sometimes she just didn’t know how to shut her trap.
“Read my mind, twist my feelings and the give me the sweet nectar of hope, only to steal it away.” Loki stepped forward so that (Y/N) was trapped between his (bare) chest, and the pool fence. “How do you do this to me? How do you tempt me to do unspeakable things to you? How do you make me to feel this way?” Oh, that’s what he meant. (Y/N)’s heart soared. Maybe her heart wouldn’t get beaten and bruised again. Maybe her love wasn’t as unrequited as she originally thought.
“I don’t know.” She replied quietly, looking up at him, and her heart fluttered at the heated stare that Loki was directing at her. He glanced down, and focused on her lips. (Y/N) felt his hand snake around her waist and pull her closer.
“Is this okay?” He whispered, his lips barely moving, and (Y/N) felt dizzy, as if this were another one of her daydreams. She sure hoped not. Well, the very fast enemies-to-friends-to-lovers trope was something that her brain would make up, but she never expected that the God of Lies would be so charming.
“Yes.” (Y/N) breathed, she pressed into him, stepping into his embrace, and he bent down as she leaned upwards.
Their lips connected and it felt right. His cold lips moved perfectly against her warm ones, and when his tongue prodded at her lips, before slipping through, she finally understood the meaning of silver-tongued. His other hand got tangled in her hair and she dropped her towel and flung her arms around his neck, pulling him down to her.
The barely pulled apart, (Y/N)’s chest was heaving as she tried to catch her breath, and Loki’s cheeks were tinged pink.
“So I take it that your romantic interest is in me?” Loki said smugly, and (Y/N) blushed, lightly whacking his arm playfully.
“So I take it that your romantic interest is in me?” (Y/N) mimicked him, and he smirked, before leaning into her personal space, causing her blood pressure to rise at a concerning pace.
“Yes.” He whispered into her ear, before placing a kiss on her neck, right below her ear, and pulling away to grab his towel, giving her a perfect view of his back and behind. I will not swoon. I will not sigh. I will not lose. She chanted in her mind, and smirked, picking up her towel and whacking Loki’s perfect little behind.
Loki turned around, his mouth agape. “You did not.”
(Y/N) couldn’t stop the grin that spread across her face. “I did so.” She responded, and squealed when Loki lunged for her, using her speed to manoeuvre out of his grasp at the last minute, then sped away towards the building, slow enough to keep him in her radar, but fast enough to keep out of his reach.
“Get back here!” He roared, she could hear his grin, but didn’t stop until she reached the common room, still soaking wet and in her bikini, her dress and her towel were in her hands and she located Thor, who was sitting at the bar with Cap and Tony, almost instantly, and leapt behind him as a similarly soaking wet Loki appeared at the door, his chest rising and falling heavily as he surveyed the room and spotted (Y/N) hiding behind his brother.
“Thor, help me!” (Y/N) whispered hurriedly, and Thor gave her a booming laugh.
“I’m afraid I can’t help you here, (Y/N), Loki always gets what he wants.”
Tony looked between them, confused and slightly tipsy. “Besides, what did you do to Reindeer Games that pissed him off so badly?”
“She whacked my ass with her towel!” Loki exclaimed.
“That sounds like something she would do.” Tony gave him a crooked smile and downed an entire glass of… vodka? (Y/N) hoped it was water, not vodka, but considering the events of the past few days, it was more likely to be vodka.
If he found out that (Y/N) and Loki had kissed, well, he’d probably drink the entire Compound dry of alcohol. Loki simply rolled his eyes and grabbed (Y/N) around the waist and threw her over his shoulder, and she hit his back playfully as he carried her out of the room, but to be honest, she was perfectly fine with being thrown over his shoulders and carried away.
“Remember to wear a condom!” Tony snickered, and Loki retorted without missing a beat.
“I will!” Loki and (Y/N) snorted when they heard Tony choke and cough on whatever he was downing next.
“Don’t you dare, that girl is like my daughter, and I will not have you-” Tony started ranting, then was abruptly cut off by Thor.
“Leave them alone, (Y/N) can make decisions of her own. As can Loki, and I trust his choices.”
Tony grumbled something that neither of them could bother to hear, because Loki had reached their rooms.
“Well, I guess this is where we part.”
“Unless you have plans for tonight.” (Y/N) winked, and Loki smirked.
“Oh sorry, I’m new here, I don’ have any plans as of yet.”
“Well, maybe we could have our first date, start officially courting, and prank a few people.” (Y/N) told him, raising an eyebrow, and Loki’s facial expression softened almost immediately.
“I honestly don’t know what I did to deserve you. And we only kissed a few minutes ago.”
“Well, for one, you destroyed New York, and for another, you sparred me without getting maimed, so I think it’s safe to say that we deserve each other.” (Y/N) gave him one last glance, then slipped into her room before she turned into a puddle under his hot stare. Taking a deep breath, she reassembled herself and got herself cleaned up and into pyjamas, before wandering back into the community room, where the others were gathered around a table.
A table playing the kiss between Loki and (Y/N) on the tablet that was on it.
Flushing red, (Y/N) tried to nonchalantly sit down on the couch near them, but they all watched her like a hawk.
When Loki came in in pyjamas and made to sit next to her, Tony and Clint pointedly sat on either side of her, and (Y/N) got redder, if it was even possible at this point.
“What is the meaning of this?” Loki demanded, glaring at Tony and Clint.
“What are your intentions with our daughter-figure?” Tony asked, and (Y/N) buried her burning face into her hands. Sure she knew that they cared, but not this much.
“I intend to treat her like the princess she is.” Loki replied smoothly, and (Y/N) gave him a thankful grin, before standing up and hugging him, before shoving him between Clint and Tony and curling up in his lap, resting her head on his shoulder.
“We still up for tonight?” She whispered.
“Of course, I already have a few ideas we could use.”
Bucky and Steve turned bright red, obviously thinking of it in a different way….
“Hey, I was thinking we start with the super soldiers, but Nat is out of bounds. Then we can move to the others. And remember, keep the traps humane and not strong enough to maim a human.” (Y/N) glared daggers at the super soldiers and made sure she said it loud enough to make the meaning clear, and Loki chuckled darkly.
“Oh, it will be my pleasure to hear their screams of torment.” Loki replied, and he twisted her around so that she was sitting with her back to him and he was holding her close.
Maybe she would have a happily ever after, after all.
Imagine Peter Parker falling in love with you, an Asgardian
Tumblr media
You were much younger then Thor or Loki-- a  miracle princess, when none was thought to be on the horizon.
Though of course much older then the actual years you were  the  Asgardian equivalent of a fifteen year old (looking the part too), and already skilled at all types of combat-- hand to hand, melee, long range weapons and even horse backed warfare.
which is why even  though you were so much younger you always tagged along with Thor, Loki, Sif and the warriors three on every single battle and adventure they had and why they and your parents allowed it.
They knew you were good enough. .  .
and that your back was watched enough between your two brothers and four friends.
No one raised any complaints when you joined Thor when he went down to Midgard to stop Loki, who was wreaking havoc there.
You’d always been interested in Midgard and that was your first taste of it. . .and their first sight of you.
Before then no one had known Thor even had a sister, then after the battle of New York pictures of all the avengers were everywhere, plastered all over the news and across the entire city-- which included you.
Little did you know there was a small boy named Peter Parker in Queens who was glued, soaking up every picture and bit of information he could about each and everyone of your team. . . especially about you the famous sister of thor
he’ d only been interested in Thor since that first sighting of him in the new Mexico Town . . . and now that you were on the scene that interest naturally shifted to include you to.
He was smitten.
. . . but Peter just assumed it was a stupid kid crush that would pass in time or like those infatuations people get with celebrities; short and never likely to happen or turn out to be anything.
Not like he was going to ever meet you.
Except he would because a few years later a spider bite would make sure of it.
Neither of you knew that though of course, he just kept living his life a bit happy a bit sad while you kept living yours on asgard, a bit happy and a bit sad too.
While he had to deal with the loss of his uncle ben and supporting Aunt May as much as possible you had to deal with the loss of your mother, Frigga, then put that aside as best you could to help loki and thor save Jane, destroy the dark elves and save Asgard (and the eight other realms too-- no big deal)
You did it but it came at another loss. . .the loss of your brother Loki. Like Thor you cared about him even after everything he’d done and especially  coming on the heels of your mother’s passing his death hurt you (for the second time)
After that Thor left asgard, supposedly to go back to Midgard and jane
though you were sad to see him go you were glad he was going to be happy so after bidding him goodbye you watched him leave. . . as heartbroken as it made you.
Being the only heir meant that a lot of the old duties-- and all the attention--  that had once been taken care of by your brothers now fell to you.  You were just glad you didn't have to do everything since your father was still alive and ruling.  though he was . .  different then he used to be and you had your suspicions about that.
Suspicions or not when word reached you via Hiemdal of divisions on Midgard, that things were gathering for the avengers to fight against themselves you knew you had to go and help. for yourself, for them and for Thor since you knew it's what he would do, if he could.
There was no way he would allow the avengers to fall to chaos so and there was no way you would either so you armed yourself, got permission from odin who granted it a bit too eagerly and left.
Heimdal dropped you right in front of Avengers towers and you strode in unchallenged to find pretty much all of them there arguing over a piece of paper.
It didn't take long before you were caught up and understood the situation. Stark thought the avengers shouldn't be unsupervised ,that they should be regulated by the government-- and half the team had rallied around him while Steve believed that the avengers should remain as they were -- and the other half of the team had taken his side
You tried your best to try to stem the situation and avoid any arguing and conflict. . .. but somehow before you even knew how it had happened the lines had been drawn, war was declared. . .and you found yourself standing on Steve's side of it.
Oh well.
There were bigger bilgesnipe to face because soon enough You, Sam and Steve heard from Bucky about the other winter soldiers and the imminent civil war was put on the back burner. You all knew that stopping Zemo and keeping the soldiers form being unleashed on the world was more important then that.
So all of you headed on your way to the airport to get a ride and started the wheels in motion to recruit a few more heroes to your side.
Meanwhile Tony was doing some recruiting himself and Peter Parker’  life was being turned upside down for the fourth time in his short years.
Needless to say he was stoked . . .especially after he found out you would be there when Happy let it slip after one of Peters 1,152 questions ( yes, he did keep count.)
But who could blame the boy? He was only having the dream of a lifetime come true. . .especially meeting the asgardian princess. Like I said , this boy has been crushing you hard-- for years now.
And now he’s getting a chance to actually meet you, when he never thought he would?
yeah.
He’s over the moon.
So obviously that means he bothers and pesters Happy with his questions and enthusiasm even more and that he’s even more excited for the next day.
You? You’re preparing with team cap, getting ready fight, of course, not knowing about the boy who’s so looking forward to meeting you
Totally gushes into his video camera about you as soon as you show up with the rest of Team Cap when he’s recording the film right before the battle starts.
When he flips in Peter absolutely says hello to you and nearly has a fanboy attack right then before tony interrupts and the fighting gets underway. You like him the second he jumps onto the scene and are definitely interested in this happy, bright, enthusiastic young warrior/hero like you -- though you're also a little confused and surprised (but you've got to admit to being pleased too) when he singles you out for a hello and gushes shortly about you before Stark cuts him off.
That definitely throws of your ready to fight mojo a bit.
stupid intriguing spider boy-- catching you off guard and making you want to throw the fight.
Even when the fighting stars Peter doesn't; even  think of going after you-- in fact he tries to stay out of your way as much as possible just because he doesn't want to have to hurt  you . .. or say or do something embarrassing in front of you.  and truthfully you’re trying to stay out of his way a bit too. After all that you don’t really want to fight him. . . but you will, and you’ll fight the rest of them too because it's needed.
When Spider-Man gets hit and taken out of the fight, for a crazy moment you want to dash away from where you’re fighting T’challa and go check on him but you force yourself not to.
I mean why would you? he’s on the opposite side. the wrong side whether he knows it or not-- and you’ve only just met this boy. how could you get so attached in basically a minute that you'd want to put aside the battle, the war and your side to go check on him?
oh yeah, cause it's Peter Benjamin Parker and we all pretty much fell in love with him in two seconds flat
Next thing you know Steve and Bucky have gotten away in a quinjet and the rest of your team are under arrest. . .except for you apparently because Tony somehow convinced  Ross that as a princess of Asgard you weren't really under their jurisdiction and to send you home.
Sent home you are with only a minor slap of the wrist and nothing else, left to spend your days however you can, left to think about all your friends and comrades in jail, the success of Bucky and Steve’s mission. . .and most of all you’re left to think of that Spider-Man.
Which you do.
a lot.
. . .more then you probably should.
Even though you’re forbidden to go to Midgard now until odin allows it's not long before the itch to go overtakes you; to go so you can see your friends you tell your self, and find out what happened.
But it's more then half because you want to see that  Spider-Man again.
Peter himself, can’ t stop thinking about you or that day in the german airport when he finally met you for the first time. it was hard for him to keep that from ned and as soon as his guy in the chair learned about his secret identity peter told him all about it
Ned asked a million questions too of course-- but not before starting it all off by whisper yelling “No way, you met that asgardian princess-- your dream girl? the one you’ve had a crush on for forever?”
     Being Tony Stark’s daughter isn’t easy.
     It has its ups and downs, but mostly downs, if we’re being honest here. And the fact that said daughter has some cool superpowers given to her by some not so cool scientist didn’t make life that much easier. During Loki’s attack on New York, Hydra decided to take the opportunity while everyone was being distracted by a neglected God trying to turn Earth into his second home. So, they send their best agents, including the Winter Soldier, so this was some big shit for them as you can guess, to kidnap the one and only (Y/N) Stark. When the Avengers rescued her from a secret Hydra base, she, at first, didn’t recognize any of them, but after explaining everything to her and giving her time to get her memories back and remember everything got back to normal. Well, not completely, obviously. With her newly gained, more like injected, powers, (Y/N) needed training and so the team helped her.
     Then, a few months after her rescue, they found out about Pietro and Wanda Maximoff. And because since the three of them previously were cell neighbours, (Y/N) remembered them and the friendship she had formed with the siblings. After convincing the Maximoffs of Ultron’s plan to destroy mankind, they joined the team to defeat the less human but more evil version of Terminator.
     But with a price.
     During the battle in Sokovia, Wanda lost her brother and (Y/N) a close friend. Which caused both of the young girls, devastated by the death, to lose control of their powers. Wanda released a massive blast of hot energy, killing every one of Ultron’s minions around her, meanwhile, (Y/N)’s body was charged with electricity which injured Clint, as he tried to wake her up after she passed out.
     Ever since that day, the young Stark girl was terribly afraid to use her powers, but with the help of the Avengers, who were family to her, Wanda and she learned how to live with Pietro’s death. However, the fact that she considered the Avengers family, made it only harder for her when it came to the Sokovian Accords. In the end, she had a huge disagreement with her father and sided up with Steve. Not because she thought that they shouldn’t be controlled by the government, but because of Bucky and Wanda.
     Both ex-human guinea pigs were reduced to the fact that they used to work for Hydra, and since (Y/N) was convinced that if her dad wanted to have Bucky punished for the murders he committed while he was brainwashed and controlled by Hydra, she should, too, be punished for the things she did while she was brainwashed.
     As soon as the fight started, (Y/N) decided to head for the newbie on her father’s side, Spiderboy, or whatever his name was. He seemed to be around her age and she wanted to know how the hell he got involved in this shit and with which tricks her dad manipulated him so he would join his team. Peter, on the other hand, already knew who (Y/N) was, well more or less, he knew she was Iron Man’s daughter since Mr Stark told him. And he told his team that, even when she attacks any of them, if they would only dare to hurt her, he would make sure they wouldn’t get to live another day. Tony loved his daughter, no matter what she did, even in this case where she fought against him.
     (Y/N) usually tried to not use her powers unless totally necessary, but in this case, she did, teleporting to the other side of the battlefield, reappearing right behind Spiderman, and before he could swing away she send a lightning bolt to his body, making him fall to the ground. He quickly got up on his feet again and turned around, seeing the masked girl standing in front of him. She leaned her body forward, ready to attack again, as Peter held up his hands in defence.
     “Please…I don’t wanna hurt you”, he stuttered out, waiting for a response.
     “Well, too bad. Because I want to”, she smirked as she leapt forward.
     Peter could just barely swing away. However, (Y/N) took her chance and teleported right above him, making both tumble to the ground. After rolling around for a few moments, they came to a stop with (Y/N) sitting on Peter. Catching his breath, he soon noticed his mask lying on the ground several feet away. Peter quickly looked up at the girl on top of him, hoping she didn’t know him.
     “Peter? Peter Parker?”
     “Wait…How do you know me?”, he wondered.
     (Y/N) slowly took off her mask, surprising the boy with who she really was.
     “(Y/N)? But…You…Mr. Stark…”, Peter tried to find his words but he was too shocked to form a correct sentence.
     Above him kneeled his classmate and close friend, and apparently also Tony Starks daughter. In school, she was known as (Y/F/N) (Y/L/N). The young girl quickly climbed off of her friend and sat beside him and began to explain to him why she decided to use a fake name, all while the other superheroes were still fighting.
     As soon as Bucky and Steve fled with the quinjet and the fight was over, all of Team Cap got arrested and put away in some sort of secret underwater prison.
     Everyone, besides (Y/N).
     Tony basically locked her up in his penthouse in New York and decided to assign Peter as her personal babysitter. And since Tony had a lot of meetings to attend this weekend, some of them out of state, Peter was allowed to stay over. After watching every Harry Potter movie and eating a whole lot of junk food, the teenagers were laying on the huge couch in the living room just talking and staring at the ceiling.
     “You know…I feel like we should do something fun…”, (Y/N) trailed off, wanting to get out of this apartment and breathe in some fresh air.
     “Like what? We can’t go outside, your dad told me strictly to not let you take a single step outside these walls.”
     (Y/N) signed and sat up, looking around the living room trying to figure out what to do, when her eyes landed on Peter. She never told anyone, but she had a massive crush on him ever since her first day at Midtown High. (Y/N) was late for her class and after not finding her locker she just headed into a random direction, immediately crashing into Peter. After picking up both their stuff, he asked her where she was heading and the teens soon figured out that they had mostly the same classes. So, Peter showed her the way to their classroom and since they were the last students they were assigned lab partners for the rest of the year.
     “I mean…we could always sneak out”, she hinted with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
     “And how would we do that?”, Peter asked.
     He understood why she wanted to get out. The weather was wonderful and the sun was about to set.
     “Follow me…”
     When Peter and (Y/N) got out of the skyscraper, they decided to just go for a walk through Central Park, enjoying the last few sun rays.
     “If my dad finds out about this, you’re gonna be so dead”, she suddenly started to laugh.
     “Yea, well, I’m willing to let him kill me if that means I got to see you happy first”, Peter mumbled, hoping (Y/N) didn’t hear him.
     But she did, loud and clear, in fact. The young girl stopped walking and stood in front of him, looking into his eyes.
     “Peter…”, she trailed off, her sight dropping to his lips, which he nervously licked.
     Before she could say anything else, Peter took the initiative and pressed his slightly dry lips against her full ones. His hands grabbed onto her face, holding her in place as her hands wrapped around his wrists. Both panted as they moved apart, and as Peter opened his mouth to say something, (Y/N) pressed her lips onto his again. Her arms wrapped around his neck, as his went around her hips, pulling her even closer to him. As they parted again, they started to chuckle slightly at how weird this situation was. When both calmed down, (Y/N) pressed her face into his chest as he kissed the top of her head.
     “We should get back home…”, Peter said, looking down at her as (Y/N) just nodded and they made their way back to Tony’s penthouse, holding hands while walking through the fresh summer night.
     However, it was (Y/N) who broke the comfortable silence between the teenagers, saying, what Peter hoped would never happen.
     “He’s so gonna kill you now.”
FEEDBACK IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!
