Book #4 of 2023 📖 “Disciplines of Grace” ✍🏻 Jerry Bridges 📚Christian Living ⭐️ 4/5 Quote: “Run, John, run the law commands. But gives me neither feet nor hands. Better news the gospel brings- it bids me fly and gives me wings!” Discipline and grace are not two words I would normally interchange or expect to see in the same sentence. Yet such is the Christian life as Jerry Bridges explains in his exposition of the role grace plays in our pursuit of holiness. Just as both wings of an airplane are crucial for flight, this book reminds us that the exercise of both discipline and dependence is absolutely necessary in our walks as children of the King. What I liked most about this book was that everything led back to the gospel. The gospel shaped each truth shared and fueled each encouragement written. I’ve heard many times from various Christian teachers to “Preach the gospel to yourself daily” and reading this book was such a practical and spiritually refreshing way to do that. Titus 2:11-12 says “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Words are undoubtedly the most beautiful art form the universe has ever gifted us. This world's greatest sin could not compare to the soul-shattering disappointment that such a whimsical ferocity falls short amongst idle ears. There is more life in literature and purpose in publications than so many of us will ever begin to fathom. What a shame it is that we will never grasp the unmatchable wonder of a carefully sculpted phrase built on seemingly ordinary words because we are too busy searching for fulfillment in people and materialistic pleasures.

I ran my fingers through my hair as I took the turn and strained my sleepy eyes against the raw sunlight to see along the line of shops along the side of the road. I quickly scanned the area and confirmed my superiority punctuality wise. ''I was late, but at least not as late as you'', I thought to myself.I stopped at the nearest shop and looked around as I took out my wallet. "Ek classic regular",I told the shopkeeper, as I handed him the money. I took the cigarette and lighted it up with casual expenditure of smoke and life. Even before the first puff hit my lungs, I had already started walking again. I walked a little and stopped in front of a closed food stall with a potential arrangement for a fairly uncomfortable substitute of a bed. I confidently sat on the tin table-shift food stall and smoked. As the fire neared the butt, I calculated an estimated time of delay, the causes, and the more number of cigarettes that will burn in my hands through this wait. I religiously scrolled through my feed as Imagine Dragons blasted loud enough in my phone speakers for me to feel the adrenaline rush needed to wake me up through the last few languid jitters of sleep. I smoked and waited. And waited.

Book #1 of 2023 📖 “A Dog’s Journey” ✍🏻 W. Bruce Cameron 📚Animal Fiction ⭐️ 3/5 Quote: “Dog’ is ‘God’ spelled backward; you know that. That’s why you’re here, to help the nuns do God’s work. I asked my husband for a dog for Christmas. He got me this book instead 😅 Our landlord doesn’t allow pets in our apartment but I still think he could have pulled some strings to make it happen. All jokes aside, this lighthearted read was much appreciated and came at a good time. After my Pop passed away I came down with a rough bout of sickness, so it was nice to have something easy and entertaining to pass the time and get my mind off things. My husbands plan was foiled though. This book did not appease my dog fever.
