Book #4 of 2023 📖 “Disciplines of Grace” ✍🏻 Jerry Bridges 📚Christian Living ⭐️ 4/5 Quote: “Run, John, run the law commands. But gives me neither feet nor hands. Better news the gospel brings- it bids me fly and gives me wings!” Discipline and grace are not two words I would normally interchange or expect to see in the same sentence. Yet such is the Christian life as Jerry Bridges explains in his exposition of the role grace plays in our pursuit of holiness. Just as both wings of an airplane are crucial for flight, this book reminds us that the exercise of both discipline and dependence is absolutely necessary in our walks as children of the King. What I liked most about this book was that everything led back to the gospel. The gospel shaped each truth shared and fueled each encouragement written. I’ve heard many times from various Christian teachers to “Preach the gospel to yourself daily” and reading this book was such a practical and spiritually refreshing way to do that. Titus 2:11-12 says “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Day 17 of #findingthegray2019 — Veda Faust is one of Shae’s closest friends, possibly even best friend. The two met in high school and have been friends ever since. They both went to different colleges, with Shae going to a trade school and Veda going to medical school. Veda has always been the “mother” of the group; she looks after everyone and makes sure they’re well, so it came as no surprise to Shae or the others that Veda would go to school to become a nurse. When she was close to graduating, she married her college sweetheart, Beau, who was a member of the National Guard. - When the plague broke out, Beau and Veda were originally going to try and tough things out in the city. With their expertise, they were figuring they could ride it out and that it wouldn’t become as severe as it did. Being a member of the National Guard, Beau was called to help keep order, in part by enforcing curfews and sectioning off infected parts of the city. As the situation grew worse, Beau ended up killed in action. This pushed Veda to finally join Shae and the others, which was no easy feat. Book #1 of 2023 📖 “A Dog’s Journey” ✍🏻 W. Bruce Cameron 📚Animal Fiction ⭐️ 3/5 Quote: “Dog’ is ‘God’ spelled backward; you know that. That’s why you’re here, to help the nuns do God’s work. I asked my husband for a dog for Christmas. He got me this book instead 😅 Our landlord doesn’t allow pets in our apartment but I still think he could have pulled some strings to make it happen. All jokes aside, this lighthearted read was much appreciated and came at a good time. After my Pop passed away I came down with a rough bout of sickness, so it was nice to have something easy and entertaining to pass the time and get my mind off things. My husbands plan was foiled though. This book did not appease my dog fever. Day 16 of #findingthegray2019 — Jared’s weakness is his ability to maintain the relationships he has and be able to have a true connection with people due to his weak Fi function. With Shae’s ability to see different outcomes and process data, while comparing everything to previous happenings, she can take advantage of how Jared works in general. He has clearly expressed his selfishness in his striving to survive. Shae recognizes that to overcome him as an obstacle, she has to work slowly and carefully. This has it’s downfall—the longer it takes, the deeper entrenched he is in things. She also has to deal with the isolation he has caused and convince those that have swayed to his side that he is their biggest threat. - Being able to see the different outcomes and make changes as something comes up to alter the information is key to being able to beat Jared. Catch up on day 15 of #findingthegray2019 — Jared’s upper hand over Shae is that he’s a natural leader due to his Te function. Where Shae struggles to take her teammates into consideration, whether it be their feelings or their needs, he can see and use this. Shae is good at having a plan and keeping everyone alive, but Jared has what the group needs; a skillset that keeps them alive, good plans, and the ability to know and lead people. It’s easy for Jared to get people on his side, even if he can be just as cold on the exterior as Shae at times. - He uses this to his advantage by trying to cut Shae off from her closest friends. He sees how they aid her in being a leader, practically coaching her on what everyone needs and how to address it. Catch up on Day 14 of #findingthegray2019 — Jared’s superego is the ESFJ. This side of him is fairly similar to the INTP shadow but a bit more intense. He strives to secure his position on the top and will stop at nothing to maintain it. If his position is threatened, or someone he is attached to is threatened, he will not only be harsh in his words but he will be physically aggressive. This side of him came out in the first manuscript when he felt betrayed and threatened by Shae.
