Book #4 of 2023 📖 “Disciplines of Grace” ✍🏻 Jerry Bridges 📚Christian Living ⭐️ 4/5 Quote: “Run, John, run the law commands. But gives me neither feet nor hands. Better news the gospel brings- it bids me fly and gives me wings!” Discipline and grace are not two words I would normally interchange or expect to see in the same sentence. Yet such is the Christian life as Jerry Bridges explains in his exposition of the role grace plays in our pursuit of holiness. Just as both wings of an airplane are crucial for flight, this book reminds us that the exercise of both discipline and dependence is absolutely necessary in our walks as children of the King. What I liked most about this book was that everything led back to the gospel. The gospel shaped each truth shared and fueled each encouragement written. I’ve heard many times from various Christian teachers to “Preach the gospel to yourself daily” and reading this book was such a practical and spiritually refreshing way to do that. Titus 2:11-12 says “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Book #1 of 2023 📖 “A Dog’s Journey” ✍🏻 W. Bruce Cameron 📚Animal Fiction ⭐️ 3/5 Quote: “Dog’ is ‘God’ spelled backward; you know that. That’s why you’re here, to help the nuns do God’s work. I asked my husband for a dog for Christmas. He got me this book instead 😅 Our landlord doesn’t allow pets in our apartment but I still think he could have pulled some strings to make it happen. All jokes aside, this lighthearted read was much appreciated and came at a good time. After my Pop passed away I came down with a rough bout of sickness, so it was nice to have something easy and entertaining to pass the time and get my mind off things. My husbands plan was foiled though. This book did not appease my dog fever. Spoiler Free Review of

What If It’s Us

By Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera

First off ... I am so impressed with the seamless ness of this book written by two best friends. I have read others that are so choppy and broken up that your head spins trying to keep up with it all.

While I have never read a thing before this by Adam, I’ve been a devoted Becky fan since Love, Simon. Becky’s voice in her writing never fails to make my heart happy. Every book with her gives you those moments where you stop mid read, close the book, hold it to your chest and give a little squeal of giddiness about what you just read or what’s to come. Now of course, I’ll have to give solo Adam a chance, but I’ve yet to hit the bookstore again.

I started this book sort of late one evening ... this was a no regrets mistake because needless to say, I was up late that night and my eyes were dust by the time sleep claimed me. However the next morning I persevered amd quickly finished. By page 7 I loved Arthur, by chapter 6 I was ready to adopt 3 characters into my BFF circle, and by the times I was done I was sad to see it over ... tho the fact that there was an epilogue eased my pain a little.

We first meet Arthur, nerdy and shy, he’s stuck in New York for the summer and he’s struggling with the adjustments that come along with it. His friends are back home, his parents are fighting and he’s caught in this internship by his mom. I totally love him. Then we meet Ben, slightly more hip, not quite as shy ... he’s also stuck but he’s in summer school after blowing off grades for an ex. The will they won’t they in Ben and Arthur’s story keeps each page turning as you’re eager to see if they get their happy ending. There are moments that make you happy, moments you’re sad but the overall good feeling this book produces is a result of two great storytellers and some great characters.

Tho I loved so many of the characters in this book a serious standout for me was Dylan, who is Ben’s BFF since forever. Their relationship is total #goals and the acceptance and love that he has for Ben, no matter his sexual orientation is an inspiration and aspiration for the youth of today. Love knows no bounds and I’m hopeful that one day the entire world will learn that.

Read this book ... it’s adorable, it’s full of teenage angst and first love. It’s way more then worth your time. Trust me.
