Book Review…A Bend of Light by Joy Jordan Lake Five years after the war, Amie Stilwell returns home. Jobless and discouraged but stubbornly resourceful. Waiting for her is Shibby Travis, the friend Amie never lost touch with. But the unexpected also awaits. An abandoned boy, a Boston socialite found dead in Amie’s barn and an old friend, believed to be a casualty of war, suddenly reappears. Trained to see what others cannot, to scan for clues, and to expose enemies, Amie uses her skills to protect a child, solve a crime, and find the motive behind a veteran’s masquerade. This was an interesting story. Amie is a photographic interpreter. She would take pictures behind enemy lines and would then analyze each photo to see where weapons could be hidden or where soldiers could be hidden.i never knew they did this so it was really interesting to read about. The story flows really well, the characters are wonderful and I liked the touch of romance added to the mystery! It's an engaging historical fiction story that captures you till the very end! Thank you Get Red PR and Joy Jordan Lake for sharing this book with me! #ABendofLight #JoyJordanLake #GetRedpr #books #bookreview #historicalfictionnovel #read #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #mysterybook #igbooks #igreads #bibliophile #readaholic #booksta #bookish #LakeUnionPublishing (at Cleveland, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/p/CiNf8M2L1hB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Might as well start with a book list:
July TBR
-  “Mister Slaughter” by  Robert McCammon (halfway through with it, Matthew has been exceptionally good at searching for troubles and Robert McCammon is exceptionally good at writing about those. It’s 3rd book in the series about Matthew Corbett and one of the best detective stories I’ve read so far)
- “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens (I’ve seen this book so much since it came out that I have a feeling I’ve already read it. Supposed to be character-driven, slow, atmospheric read)
- “10% Happier” by Dan Harris (recommended by Anastacia Kay; don’t want my brain to turn completely mushy with +35 C outside. There are so many fears in my head related to failing and tons of anxiety. Avoiding those will not make things better so let’s see whether Dan Harris’s book has some handy tips and tricks)
-  “Cinamon and Gunpowder” by Eli Brown (I know nothing about this one, but one of my students chose it for a reading class, gotta check it out. I expect loads of adventures, pirates, food, sea. Sounds like summer vibe to me)
-  “City of Bones” by Cassandra Clare (picked by my student who is going through a vampire phase, let’s see where this one goes. Definitely want to jump into some teen fantasy novels so why not?)
- “ The Boys, Volume 1: The Name of the Game” by Garth Ennis  (well, if you haven’t checked out the tv series yet, do that. One of the best TV series I’ve seen)

The Love Hypothesis
By Ali Hazelwood
So The Love Hypothesis was the first book that I read when I joined Book Tok this year. I was with my best friend who got me into the clock app and I had been seeing it everywhere so when we went book shopping the next day and I immediately picked it up. I read it and it took me like 5 hours straight to read this the first time. I could not put it down.
Olive is trying to get her best friend to date the guy who she was at one point casually dating. To convince her friend she was over this guy, she told them that she was on a date (which she wasn't). She went to the lab to work when she sees her friend. In a panic she asks the closes person to her if she can kiss them and then proceeds to. The person she kissed Professor Adam Carlsen, the professional asshole of the department. Every student leaves his presence in tears or frustration as he tears their work apart. To convince her friend that she is over this guy, Olive and Adam decide to fake date for about a month. Adam has said that fake dating Olive would help him convince Stanford to release his funds he needs for projects he wants to finish by the end of the year.
It was incredibly cute and the banter with Olive's friends was incredible. “You put in expired contracts? Just a little expired. What's 'a little'?” was a sentence within the first few pages of this book. I could not stop laughing.
I really enjoyed a lot of the tropes in this book: strangers to lovers, teacher / student, fake dating. I enjoyed the fact that Adam was totally in love with Olive before she realized what was happening. Adam makes Olive feel loved and safe no mater what is happening around them.
This book has become a comfort read for me. I've read this book several times this year. I've bought another copy of this book due to the fact that there was a bonus chapter available in Adam's perspective. Honestly I would love to have the rest of the book in his perspective as he has always been deeply in love with Olive.
I have read the rest of Ali's books and I love them. They are so nerdy and fun. I look forward to reading more books by her.

BOOK REVIEW ʍəıʌəɹ ʞooq BOOK REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Magic is extremely rare in the kingdom of Verchiel and those who can wield it are called Incarnates. They are worshiped gods deemed saints of the land. Leading the land, sometimes into ruin. After the sudden deaths of the previous leaders, a struggle for supremacy ensues between the Incarnates. Each has their own reasons for wanting to rule. We follow four new Incarnate. Gabriel, engaging in shady practices to get what he wants than ever feel powerless again. Zoe, has been determined to embark on a new path, since becoming an Incarnate. Niklas is an exiled prince from Bjoral, a land that sees him as a heska, trying to forget his past. And finally Silje, a killer who won’t stop until everyone adores her, wanting the love that she so desperately lacked. An Incarnation of Shadow and Light, gives me A Darker Shade of Magic vibes. I was immediately drawn to the premise and magic system of the book from the start. Each of the Incarnate takes the magic from either the sun or the moon. Zoe and Silje are Daughters of the Sun and Niklas and Gabriel are Sons of the Moon. Sun Incarnate is able to use its magic during the day. Having the ability to heal and have psychokinesis. Moon Incarnate is able to control the Shadows and Illusion, with Niklas having a special ice power. It was just a nice and solid fantasy book with elements that I liked, but I just didn’t love it. It is really hovering in the middle. S.A. Christianson really captures the atmosphere of the story. Allowing you to immerse yourself in the illusions at night, or the rays of the sun during the day. While it has some great points it was a little lack luster for me. I lost my interest mid way through the book, becoming bored with the story, and really wanting more contrast to the wonderful parts of the novel. I highly recommend this to fans of the series I mentioned above, and to anyone who appreciates complex, morally gray characters. I really, really, really enjoyed A Side of Murder the first book in @amypershingauthor Cape Cod foodie series and although I promised myself I wasn't going to buy anymore books after that huge book haul last week but I am just lying to myself. Samantha Barnes is a chef in NYC who finds herself back home in Cape Cod after losing her and her marriage. Her Great Aunt Ida died and left her home and dog well puppy Diogi to Sam to her surprise. Sam's intent is to go see what needs to be done to get her aunt's house in saleable state and head back to New York but when her friend Krista ask her to review a new restaurant she accepts mostly because she needs the money and because Krista doesn't accept no. Of course there's a murder that brings her back into contact with her crush Jason Captiva who is now the Harbor master and who keeps telling her to leave the investigation to him and the police which she is not going to do. I couldn't put this book down! I loved Samantha and her friends. The plot was well paced and hats off to the author for not giving too many red herrings. As a girlie girl myself I appreciated Samantha's very feminine style of long flowy dresses made me think of the brands Selkie, Ivy City Co, & Jessakae although I am no wear near Samantha's 6'2 frame. My one con: I felt the book was too long and everything could have been wrapped up at chapter 35. #amypershing #capecodfoodiemystery #cozyauthor #cozymysteryauthor #bookstagram #cozymysteries #bookaddict #sleuther #readersofinstagram #readaholic #addictedtobooks #addictedtobooksforlife #ilovecozymysteries #ilovebooks #books #ilovecozies #bookaddict #bookaholic #bookobsessed #bookworm #cozies #cozymysteryreader #cozytribe #cozymysteryclub #cozymysteryengagement #summerreading https://www.instagram.com/p/CerIrimOUyU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
