What books have you recently added to your tbr? 📚🍂😍 . Today we felt in the mood to browse Netgalley & see which books were up for request (as if our TBR needed more books 😂). But anywhoo, we did give in to the temptation and requested a few titles! Of course, we cannot wait for Painted Devils (we loved Little Thieves) and we were just reading about A Multitude of Dreams which is a retelling/inspired tale based on one of Poe’s works & it sounds really good! 😍 . Oh but we also got to download Ebony Gate which is pitched as a female John Wick story with dragon magic set in San Francisco's Chinatown (super grateful to Tor Books for auto-approving us for their titles 🥺🤎). . But seriously, so many good books are releasing this year. I'm going back to basics. Back to when I simply enjoyed reading for what it is. An escape from reality & a chance to explore new worlds.

I honestly cannot remember the last time I truly enjoyed reading a book or the last time I did not struggle to pick up a book & read.

I have made the decision to step away from book blogging. I have already made changes to my book blog to reflect this new direction. All I have now is a simple Tumblr for sharing my love of books.

I want to get back to my old reading days & just be happy with a book in my hands.

Accepting when I don't like a book & moving on.

Making myself a reading schedule.

I will not be...

Doing anymore book tours of any kind.

Focusing on what is 'trendy' in books.

Trying to get so many ARCs.

Forcing myself to read.

I'm also cleaning up my Instagram feed, so there will less images on my profile. I want it to reflect who I am as a reader.

“There were times when he did hear echoes, but always they were couched in tones which, living as a Negro, he could not answer or accept without losing face with the world which had first evoked in him the song of manhood” “Never had he had the chance to live out the consequences of his actions; never had his will been so free as in this night and day of fear and murder and flight” This phenomenal novel by the late Richard Wright had me going at page one. The story is a slow burn that features Bigger Thomas, a young black man who kills a white girl in panic. Bigger as a character did a full three sixty with me. From the beginning, his lack of accountability and insensitivity was a setup for a deeper, more contradictory inner mindset of a black man who feels as though his life has already ended. Realistic and profoundly sad, this book was like a somber cello playing at dusk. The writing was remarkable-lush and careful. I could tell that Wright really wanted to paint a bittersweet picture for Bigger and his relationships with his family, girlfriend, and the white family he worked for. There was one part of the book where it gets heavy handed on explaining the roots of prejudice in America which I couldn’t read through in one sitting, but it remained a keystone for the book. I bought this used copy of Stephen King‘s Misery years ago, and I haven’t gotten around to reading it until now. Sacrilege, I know. I had never read the book, only seen the movie. Spoiler alert: the book is obviously better. 🖤 I get to pages 162 and 163, a dark night of the soul scene, and I find this leaf pressed between the pages. It’s autumn and my yard is full of similar leaves. Not sure how this fragile memento made it past the bookstore, or how long it’s been there, but I love finding treasures like this.
