What Happened in Vegas: An Interlude
Tumblr media
Book:                   Open Heart (Book 2 - AU)
Pairing:                Ethan Ramsey x F!MC
Rating:                 General
Category:            Fluff
Summary:   Ethan and Casey are in shock after watching the recording - for now, they know it's true. Too much to drink + Vegas + a wedding chapel they stumbled into on their path = only one thing. They were married. This is Ethan's POV as the news settles in.
Words: 456
A/N: Day 2 of @creativepromptsforwriting 's 30-Day Writing Challenge: Write a scene without any dialogue. And, boy, was this a challenge for me because I think dialogue is my strong suit. I decided to tackle a little scene that took place "off camera" at the end of Chapter 4 of my mini-series, What Happened in Vegas. It's not a full chapter, I stayed true to my promise of under 600 words today, but I hope those reading the series will enjoy a peek at Ethan's state of mind.
@choicesjanuarychallenge Day 5 - Love
Vegas Masterlist 30-Day Challenge Masterlist
Casey tapped his hand. Though no words were exchanged, he knew exactly what she wanted him to do. He stopped the recording at once. An audible thud was heard when his phone fell from his hand, crashing on the mattress between them. But, frozen, neither moved an inch.
The ceiling wasn’t that interesting, and he had already memorized every crack. But the pale grey plaster was the perfect backdrop as shock drifted away and reality began crashing in. There was no longer any question. They were married. It may have been a rash decision, and certainly nothing they would have done sober, but that didn’t matter. It was done. And now that they had seen it with their own eyes, he knew:  not only done but, despite the circumstances, it was done with love. As the shock drifted, a strange sensation overtook him, and he felt a smile forming, even if it never appeared on his lips.
He wasn’t sure how long they lay there. How long does it take for something like this to register? But he knew it would have laid there longer if it had been up to him. Casey sat up, she was speaking, but he couldn’t hear a word. They couldn’t compete with the words already replaying in his mind. The vows he had spoken to her and those she had gifted him.
They hadn’t been engaged. There were no previous plans. No long nights attempting to pen the perfect vows for the person you hoped to spend eternity with. There was nothing that may have been stored in their subconscious that could be recalled, even when drunk. And, oh, were they drunk. So, how did they arrive at those words? He wondered. Then another revelation washed over him. There was only one way they could have uttered such beautiful words in such a condition: because they were true.
Breaking free from his trance, he lifted his head and stared at her, his beautiful… wife… the annulment pamphlet tapping nervously in her hands. Her words were still inaudible. He was sober now, but in a way, more intoxicated than ever before… and it was solely because of her. But he heard her now, and his heart started to race. A quickie marriage fueled by overpriced bourbon and wine, the solution seemed simple… an equally quick annulment to put it in the past. That’s what she seemed to say.
But there was one problem, he didn’t want that, and he couldn’t let it happen. Grasping her hand, he began to tackle the most important task in his lifetime. The one thing in his heart he knew to be true… he had to convince her… this wasn’t a mistake; this was their destiny.

Little Firecracker
A Bakugou Katsuki-centred MHA fanfic ficlet based on @creativepromptsforwriting 's "Prompt #1: Write about a family wedding where you are the only single - besides a ten-year-old."
@creativepromptfills - would love a reblog 😁
[I am On_A_Crescendo on Ao3 as well!]
"Oh come on Katsuki, it won't be as bad as you think." Mitsuki had wrangled her son into a suit and was now lassoing a tie around him. All of his energy was going into resisting the process.
"Everyone always asks me where my date is at these things! I'm tired of being interrogated!"
"Your cousin will be disappointed if you don't show up to her wedding; you two used to be inseparable when you were little! The only thing that got in the way of that was when they moved to America." The tie situation had not gotten any better. "I give up! Masaru!"
Katsuki's father entered the room as a frustrated Mitsuki exited. He sighed. "Please Katsuki, it's only a day. We can get the wedding over with and maybe you'll enjoy the reception. The venue isn't far from here either."
Katsuki allowed Masaru to complete the process of tying his tie. "Fine. If anyone asks where my date is though, so help me...I also don't understand why there's dancing? Am I seriously going to be expected to dance?!"
"The groom is American, it's what they do there. And no - you don't have to dance if you don't want to. Might make for a boring night though."
Katsuki scoffed as he followed his father out to the car.
---
"Katsuki!" His cousin, adorned in her wedding gown, crushed him in a massive hug. "You look so good, all grown up and handsome! Who would've ever thought given how much of a miserable gremlin you are!" She laughed as she punched his shoulder. "So, no lucky date here with you? What a shame!"
Katsuki fumed. "No, I didn't bring anyone..." he said through clenched teeth.
"Their loss! Have fun dancing; I expect to see you out there on the floor soon!" She floated off to socialize with other family and friends.
Katsuki walked over to a table and kicked a chair out so that he could sit down. A small, blonde girl approached him.
"What's your problem?" she asked.
"Huh?" Katsuki glared at her. He had no idea who she was, but he figured she belonged to some relative he hardly knew.
"Why are you so angry?" she inquired.
"Can you just...leave me alone alright? I don't need some kid asking me questions just like the adults do."
"Are you angry because you don't have a dancing partner?"
"No!"
She shrugged. "Then why are you pissed off?"
"Should you really be using words like that? How old are you, seven?"
She stomped down on his foot and he let out a pained yelp. "NO! I'm ten! And you're one to talk, I've heard about you from father, Katsuki. You're not exactly an angel yourself!"
The girl had pointed toward her father and Katsuki realized it was one of his cousins whom he had not seen since he was very young.
"Dance with me," she said adamantly. "I don't have a date either, but I want to dance with someone!"
"What? Absolutely not!"
She raised her eyebrows and looked down at Katsuki's uninjured foot as if to say 'and I'll do it again if you don't do as I say!'
Katsuki groaned as he stood up. She grabbed his hand and pulled him so eagerly to the dancefloor that he almost fell over. As they danced to various uptempo songs, Katsuki actually found himself having more and more fun bit by bit. They chatted as they danced, and the more he learned about Akane the more she reminded him of himself.
They sat at a table after a long session of dancing, and Akane informed Katsuki that she was thirsty and that he should get them some sort of a drink. Katsuki stopped scrolling on his phone and set it down as he rose to do as he had been told. The consequences of doing otherwise would only be painful.
After he returned, they finished their sodas quickly as Akane coaxed Katsuki onto the dancefloor for another round of dancing. A slow ballad came on and Akane hopped onto Katsuki's feet with absolutely no hesitation.
"There's a boy you like from school isn't there?" she asked bluntly.
Katsuki looked around in a panic, hoping that no one overheard. He shushed her as he scowled. "Why the hell do you say that?"
She smirked. "I went through your phone while you got our drinks! You should really put a lock on that thing before just leaving it wherever. Rookie move! You'd think that's something they would teach you at hero school! Anyway, I saw what you had been texting about with whoever 'Shitty Hair' is on your contact list. You have a crush on a boy named Deku! You even have Deku's number saved in your phone too!" She giggled, clearly pleased with herself. "I feel like a secret agent!"
Katsuki was quiet for a moment. He finally decided how he wanted to reply. "So what if I like him? It doesn't matter, there's no way he likes me back. I've been a complete shithead to him."
"You're a shithead to everyone!" Akane replied, almost in hysterics from laughing so hard. "Well, I'm really happy that I'm right about how much you like him!"
Katsuki looked down at her in confusion as she hopped off of his feet and seemed to be looking behind him.
"May I cut in?" The voice made Katsuki's eyes go wide. He turned around slowly to find Izuku in a suit, hand outstretched and smiling.
"Oh thank God, please do - I'm sick of him, Deku! I'm really happy that you got that text I sent telling you to come! You made it here in time to rescue me!" Akane tossed her arms above her head melodramatically as she ran over to hug Auntie Mitsuki who was looking on in bewilderment. Mitsuki slapped Masaru's shoulder with the back of her hand to get his attention and pointed over toward the boys. They both smiled, pleased that their son ended up having a great evening after all.
"Akane is quite the firecracker, huh?" Izuku asked as he and Katsuki continued to slow dance. "She reminds me of a certain someone."
"I can't believe you actually came...Izuku."
"Of course I did - all you ever had to do was ask."
The next song was uptempo, and Izuku ran over to grab Akane's hand. He brought her out onto the dancefloor.
"Look, I ended up with a date after all!" she shouted at Katsuki and stuck out her tongue.
"Oh no, you don't!" Katsuki laughed as he grabbed one of Izuku's hands and one of Akane's. The three of them spun and danced until Akane was told she had to leave.
"I love you Katsuki!" She hugged him so tightly around the middle that he could hardly breathe. "Please don't wait to see me again until you and Izu get married, okay?!"
She skipped off leaving Katsuki blushing. "I love you too Akane," he said to himself quietly. Izuku grabbed his hand as the two of them waved goodbye to her.
Another ballad came on.
"Can I have this dance then? I'll ask you myself this time." Katsuki squeezed Izuku's hand.
Izuku grinned. "Always."

how to motivate yourself to write more
hey fellow writers,
let's talk about that ever-elusive motivation to continue writing. whether your a seasoned author or just starting out, we all face those moments when inspiration seems to evade us and the blank page feels more daunting than ever. but fear not! i'm here to share some tried-and-true strategies to help you reignite your writing mojo and get those creative juices flowing again
set clear goals
start by setting specfic, achievable writing goals for yourself. whether its a daily word count target, completing a chapter by the end of the week, or submitting your work to a writing contest, having clear goals gives you something to work towards and helps keep you focused
establish a routine
create a regular routine that works for you. whether it's writing for an hour each day, consistency is key. by making writing a habit, it becomes easier to stay motivated and make progress on your projects
create an inspiring writing space
create an environment that inspires you and makes you feel comfortable and focused. choose a space that sparks your creativitiy and helps you get into the writing zone. you can add images, light candles etc to get you inspired and motivated.
break it down
break your writing tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks. instead of focusing on the daunting task of completing an entire novel, break it down into smaller milestones like outlining a chapter, writing a scene or even just writing a paragraph. celebrate your progress as you reach each milestone, no matter how small
eliminate distractions
minimize distractions that can deter your writing sessions. turn off your phone, disconnect from social media, and create a distraction-free environment where you can focus solely on your writing. if you find yourself getting stuck, trying using productivity tools like website blockers or ambient noise generators to help you stay on track.
seek inspiration
surrond yourself with sources of inspiration that fuel your creativity. whether its reading books in your genre, listening to music, scrolling on pinterest, taking long walks in nature, or browsing through art galleries, find what inspires you and incorporate it into your writing routine.
join a writing community
connect with other writers who share your passion for writing. whether its joining local writing groups, attending writing workshops, or participating in online writing communities, surronding yourself with fellow writers can provide support, encouragement, and accountability as you work towards your writing goals
that concludes this post! happy writing! xoxo

one of the best fics i've ever read, one that had me addicted to my phone and crying, wasn't even prose. it was a huge, casual, bullet-pointed outline with every detail of an au that the author never got around to writing in full. and it was amazing.
let this be a message to all you who want to write but can't do it "normally": write it! someone out there will eat it up. whether that be poetry, tiny drabbles, or bullet pointed list: your work is always worth it. your art (yes, art!) will alway deserve to have its moment in the spotlight. why? because you made it. even if it wasn't done in a traditional matter, it came from your brain and your creativity and that is amazing.

subtle ways to include foreshadowing
one character knowing something offhandedly that they shouldn't, isn't addressed until later
the crow rhyme
colours!! esp if like, blue is evil in your world and the mc's best friend is always noted to wear blue...betrayal?
write with the ending in mind
use patterns from tragic past events to warn of the future
keep the characters distracted! run it in the background until the grand reveal
WEATHER.
do some research into Chekhov's gun
mention something that the mc dismisses over and over
KEEP TRACK OF WHAT YOU PUT. don't leave things hanging.
unreliable characters giving information that turn out to be true
flowers and names with meanings
anything with meanings actually
metaphors. if one character describes another as "a real demon" and the other turns out to be the bad guy, you're kind of like...ohhh yeahhh
anyways add anything else in the tags

Poison list
While it's important to approach writing with creativity and imagination, it's crucial to prioritize responsible and ethical storytelling. That being said, if you're looking for information on poisons for the purpose of writing fiction, it's essential to handle the subject matter with care and accuracy. Here is a list of some common poisons that you can use in your stories:
Hemlock: Hemlock is a highly poisonous plant that has been used as a poison in various works of literature. It can cause paralysis and respiratory failure.
Arsenic: Arsenic is a toxic element that has been historically used as a poison. It can be lethal in high doses and can cause symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, and organ failure.
Cyanide: Cyanide is a fast-acting poison that affects the body's ability to use oxygen. It can cause rapid loss of consciousness and cardiac arrest.
Nightshade: Nightshade plants, such as Belladonna or Deadly Nightshade, contain toxic compounds that can cause hallucinations, respiratory distress, blurred vision, dizziness, an increased heart rate, and even death when ingested.
Ricin: Ricin is a potent poison derived from the castor bean plant. It can cause organ failure and has been used as a plot device in various fictional works.
Strychnine: Strychnine is a highly toxic alkaloid that affects the nervous system, leading to muscle spasms, convulsions, and respiratory failure.
Snake Venom: Various snake venoms can be used in fiction as deadly poisons. Different snake species have different types of venom, each with its own effects on the body.
Digitalis: Digitalis, derived from the foxglove plant, contains cardiac glycosides. It has been historically used to treat heart conditions, but in high doses, it can be toxic. Overdosing on digitalis can cause irregular heart rhythms, nausea, vomiting, and visual disturbances.
Lead: Lead poisoning, often resulting from the ingestion or inhalation of lead-based substances, has been a concern throughout history. Lead is a heavy metal that can affect the nervous system, leading to symptoms such as abdominal pain, cognitive impairment, anemia, and developmental issues, particularly in children.
Mercury: Mercury is a toxic heavy metal that has been used in various forms throughout history. Ingesting or inhaling mercury vapors can lead to mercury poisoning, causing symptoms like neurological impairment, kidney damage, respiratory issues, and gastrointestinal problems.
Aconite: Also known as Wolfsbane or Monkshood, aconite is a highly toxic plant. Its roots and leaves contain aconitine alkaloids, which can affect the heart and nervous system. Ingesting aconite can lead to symptoms like numbness, tingling, paralysis, cardiac arrhythmias, and respiratory failure.
Thallium: Thallium is a toxic heavy metal that can cause severe poisoning. It has been used as a poison due to its tastelessness and ability to mimic other substances. Thallium poisoning can lead to symptoms like hair loss, neurological issues, gastrointestinal disturbances, and damage to the kidneys and liver.
When incorporating poisons into your writing, it is essential to research and accurately portray the effects and symptoms associated with them. Additionally, be mindful of the potential impact your writing may have on readers and the importance of providing appropriate context and warnings if necessary.

Some Quick Character Tips
Here are a handful of quick tips to help you write believable characters!
1. A character’s arc doesn’t need to grow linearly. Your protagonist doesn’t have to go from being weak to strong, shy to confident, or novice to professional in one straight line. It’s more realistic if they mess up their progress on the way and even decline a bit before reaching their goal.
2. Their past affects their present. Make their backstory matter by having their past events shape them into who they are. Growing up with strict parents might lead to a sneaky character, and a bad car accident might leave them fearful of driving.
3. Give reoccurring side characters something that makes them easily recognizable. This could be a scar, a unique hairstyle, an accent, or a location they’re always found at, etc.
4. Make sure their dialogue matches their personality. To make your characters more believable in conversation, give them speech patterns. Does the shy character mumble too low for anyone to ever hear, does the nervous one pace around and make everyone else on edge?
5. Make your characters unpredictable. Real people do unexpected things all the time, and this can make life more exciting. The strict, straight-A student who decides to drink at a party. The pristine princess who likes to visit the muddy farm animals. When character’s decide to do things spontaneously or in the heat of the moment, it can create amazing twists and turns.
6. Give even your minor character's a motive. This isn’t to say that all your characters need deep, intricate motives. However, every character should need or want something, and their actions should reflect that. What’s the motive behind a side character who follows your protagonist on their adventure? Perhaps they’ve always had dreams of leaving their small village or they want to protect your protagonist because of secret feelings.

I don't know if you've done this before but what are some good ways to describe speech?
Ways to Describe Speech
-> feel free to edit and adjust pronouns as you see fit.
His voice was deep like the rumbling of the earth.
She had the voice of a singer, smooth and rich like chocolate.
Their voice reminded him of spring rain.
He often paused in his speaking, like a car radio that had lost signal.
She had a lilt to her voice that made it seem like she was asking a question.
Their voice was monotonous, threatening to put her to sleep with every word.
He couldn't put her voice into words. It was... otherworldly.
Her voice was brittle, as if she were on the verge of tears.
Their voice was authoritative. Their words carried like a loud command.
His voice, unapologetic and unwavering, made her shrink back.
Her voice was barely above a whisper.
Their words were cold with anger.
