Some Quick Character Tips
Here are a handful of quick tips to help you write believable characters!
1. A character’s arc doesn’t need to grow linearly. Your protagonist doesn’t have to go from being weak to strong, shy to confident, or novice to professional in one straight line. It’s more realistic if they mess up their progress on the way and even decline a bit before reaching their goal.
2. Their past affects their present. Make their backstory matter by having their past events shape them into who they are. Growing up with strict parents might lead to a sneaky character, and a bad car accident might leave them fearful of driving.
3. Give reoccurring side characters something that makes them easily recognizable. This could be a scar, a unique hairstyle, an accent, or a location they’re always found at, etc.
4. Make sure their dialogue matches their personality. To make your characters more believable in conversation, give them speech patterns. Does the shy character mumble too low for anyone to ever hear, does the nervous one pace around and make everyone else on edge?
5. Make your characters unpredictable. Real people do unexpected things all the time, and this can make life more exciting. The strict, straight-A student who decides to drink at a party. The pristine princess who likes to visit the muddy farm animals. When character’s decide to do things spontaneously or in the heat of the moment, it can create amazing twists and turns.
6. Give even your minor character's a motive. This isn’t to say that all your characters need deep, intricate motives. However, every character should need or want something, and their actions should reflect that. What’s the motive behind a side character who follows your protagonist on their adventure? Perhaps they’ve always had dreams of leaving their small village or they want to protect your protagonist because of secret feelings.

QOTD✨ How long have you been part of the writing community? ✨ How's been your experience here? ✨ Introduce yourself! July 2, 2022 Hi, I'm Stella Rosa here! I'm a writer who just joined Instagram for no particular (very particular actually) reasons. I'm writing a fantasy, thriller novel and I hope the writing community will welcome me because otherwise I know how to gatecrash weddings, what's a social media community gonna do about it? (For FBI purposes, that was a big mistake, and for you guys, a story for some other time 😉) Have a nice day/night and don't forget to smile. That's important. Everyone should smile all the time. It's healthy and not creepy at all. (ʘᴗʘ✿) . . . . . . . . . Wanna join my tags list? Just comment to let me know, I'll add you ASAP. . . . . . Didn't add it there, but I'm a grammar nerd who made three mistakes in her exam and is suffering from "imperfectionism phobia". . . . . . . . . Happy #WriterWarnings! ✨🙃 Misspelled words, autocorrect, and errors can be such a downer. Even if we check over things twice, some things can still be missed because our brain recognizes and reads a set of letters as if nothing is out of place. We’re all human and we all make mistakes. That’s why hiring a proofreader can be so important before publishing. No matter how many times we read over our drafts, we can miss those whoopsy mistakes. A second set of eyes is important! Social media, author newsletters, websites, etc. is where it can get tricky. By representing yourself as a writer, your audience will be judging you by those mistakes. A post muddled with errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. can potentially cause a reader to assume your book is muddled with those same errors and turn away because of it. Proofreading, getting a second set of eyes, or even using a grammar-check app before posting can help smooth things out. But I don’t want you to panic because we’re all human. A single mistake isn’t going to make a reader turn away. Just keep in mind that you represent yourself and your work online and that avoiding a bunch of errors in your online presence is important to building your author brand 🖤 Xo, Ashley

It's turning into something really cool. I am gonna trust the process and keep working on this story. I was actually struggling to like my own characters in this book, but now... Omg I love them like something. This just reminds me that I am still in the process of learning and finding my own voice and that every day will be a new challenge and I know I am gonna learn do much from it and I am. I often feel like the most stupid author in this world who is horrible and that indeed is true because I am a novice and I feel like I haven't even started learning the A of author and writing life. These feelings of mine are completely valid and so are my struggle with myself and my books because I know the process I'm in right now is called the grinding process where there is always a scar from chisel every day and those scars with bundle together and form a statue. I want to keep believing in myself and the process I am going through and often I feel like I am an idiot and maybe I am not cut for this, but then it's my characters who keep reminding me that it's just the beginning and it's never going to be easy, it never was. They remind me that they are alive cuz I write and I'll keep goin . . •Book: Faking the Mate Bond •Author: AM (me) •Genre: Rebirth, Romance, werewolf, strong female lead with depression [yes you can be depressed and still be strong] •General ideas covered: Retelling of Lilith, patriarchy, love that crosses life and death, FL's way to independence and power. •Tropes: Fake relationship/friends to lovers. #darkacademia Mystery, obsession, attachment, fear of failure/future. (God there are many.) •TW: Suicide, depression, lies, betrayal, strong language. ❄️WEIGHING IT UP❄️ What's one thing you love about writing your current work in progress... and one part you really do not enjoy? Writing a novel is like stepping into a world of endless possibilities. The imagination runs wild and the characters come to life in ways you never thought possible. However, as with any journey, there are bound to be some obstacles along the way. One of the biggest challenges I face as a fantasy author is the dreaded 'middle of the book slump.' It's that point where the excitement of the beginning has worn off and the end is still not in sight. It's easy to lose motivation and wonder if all the time and effort put into the story is worth it. But that's the beauty of writing, it's all a test of perseverance. It's about pushing through the difficult parts and coming out the other side with a story that you're proud of. So, to all my fellow writers out there, keep pushing. Keep writing. Your story is worth it. What do you love and hate about the writing process? Tell me in the comments below! ❤️👇 ❄️❄️❄️ #writingjourney #writingtips #keepwriting #perseverancepaysoff #writingtipsandtricks #writeitout #novelistsofinstagram #perseveranceiskey #authorsoninstagram #writingchallenges #writersclub #amwritingfantasy #writingstruggles #writinglifestyle #justkeepwriting #mywritinglife #biggestchallenge #writingcommunityofinsta #writingmotivations #writingproblems #keepwritingyourstory #motivationalposts #writingadvice #fantasywriters #progressdaily #writerofig #bookwriter #writingmotivation #fellowwriters #perseveranceisthekey (at Naperville, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnnDccBvJRT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Quick Tips on Writing Better Characters
Here are a handful of quick tips to writing stronger characters and understanding them better as a writer.
Give your characters a title. This can help with worldbuilding and placing your protagonist into the environment. What do others call your characters? The emperor, the bastard son, the Grinch, the chosen one, the class clown, the evil witch, the popular girl, etc.
Use your settings to enhance your character. You can use the locations of your novel to mirror or contrast your character. Do they blend in or stand out? What they focus on can say a lot about them (ex. a fearsome character mishearing things on a dark street, a princess in a ballroom only focused on the exit.)
Know your protagonist's motives and goals before you start writing. What is something they need that fuels their actions throughout the novel? Money, freedom, an artifact, food? To protect their sister at all costs and survive the Hunger Games?
Now that you know their motive, make it more complex. A character's motive can be made more complex by putting them in high-stake situations that force them to make decisions. For example, Katniss wants to protect her sister, a very common motivation. However, present-day conflict makes her to do it in the most extreme way by volunteering in the Hunger Games. The plot forces her to make an extreme choice fueled by her motivation.
Your protagonist should be active. It's okay to have your story's events sometimes happen to your character (this is referred to as the character being passive, ex. a tornado sweeping them away) but your protagonist should be active a majority of the time. This means they should always be making decisions, thinking, reflecting and progressing through obstacles.

Implement these tips to enhance your coursework.
Plan Like a Pro
If you plan well before start writing your coursework, half the battle is won. The reason is that you will always know what is the next task that you have to work on.
Research Like a Scholar
Without relevant data your coursework will lose its credibility, as it will merely be an individual’s opinion that you will be presenting. So gather data from various sources.
Write Like a Writer
The first task is to contemplate the information that has been gathered through research. Through this, you will be able to identify what information has to be put under which structure of the coursework.
Add Extra Bits Like a Painter
Add relevant graphs, creative flowcharts, important infographics, meaningful pictures, and other useful information that is not in text format.
Do Last Checks Like a Reader
Wondering why to check like a reader? Well, no one identifies the mistakes in a document as precisely as a reader.
