Hi y‘all!
I have a problem.
I have always loved writing and reading and ever since I was a child, I have been coming up with stories and written them down; being creative never seemed like a problem to me.
Up until 2 years ago: My two final years of school started and I was really stressed and burned out during those two years... I‘m not sure if that‘s why, but even now, half a year after my graduation, I still can‘t come up with any new ideas :((
I missed writing so much since I didn‘t really do that during those two years, but all I can think of are rough ideas for characters, what kind of tropes and vibes I would like to have, and so on - which is, of course, not a lot, since the actual plot idea stays missing.
I would love to write again; it doesn’t have to become a bestseller one day… but I‘d love to create my own world and characters yk? Even if it‘s just for myself.
So I was thinking:
Maybe I could roughly write down the tropes/vibes I‘d like to have in my story (it might be very vague, sorry in advance😅) AND some fandoms I like so that maybe their vibes can be included a little, or they could be mixed/used as inspiration or something, and maybe you guys can help me come up with something? 😅
Maybe I can beat my writersblock that way.
Thank you all in advance 🫶🏻
⬇️
📺 • Fandoms I like:
• Pirates of the Caribbean!
• The dark Crystal - Age of Resistance
• The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings
• Six of Crows
• Hazbin Hotel & Helluva Boss
• Gravity Falls
• Tomorrow (Kdrama)
• Arcane
📝 • Tropes, Genres etc. that I like:
- found 👏🏻 family 👏🏻 trope 👏🏻 !!
* Grumpy x Sunshine (both platonic and romantic is cool)
• No enemies to lovers 🥲😅
• NO love triangles
• Forbidden Love is nice, however I don‘t necessarily need romance at all in the book, or would rather have it be a sub-plot tbh
• Rich vs poor
• Lost Memories
• Redemption Arc/Morally Grey villains
• Fantasy genre!
Edit: morally grey/villain female mc could be cool, or one that turns/starts evil but then redeems herself or something
- cool and unique magical powers for the mc and maybe her friends if they will have any; no mary sue mc
Ik this ended up being very vague, I’m so sorry, but the writersblock really be blocking y’all 🥲 idk what’s up with that lately but I hope this isn‘t completely hopeless; maybe at least the fandoms will help to come up with an idea or a prompt or something.
Thank you guys in advance again !

Writing tips: I know what they are now, but how to I get ARCS out?
So, now that we know what ARCS are, we need to know how to share them. Please note this is exclusively an indie publishing thing. Publishing company's will do this for you if you are trad pubbed.
This is relatively simple. You either a) send it out manually, or b) have a company do it for you.
Option A: specifically sending arcs to Kindle
This is what I did! Basically you pop up a form on all you're socials, share it around Facebook groups etc calling for ARC readers (in your target audience) and provide the link to a Google form. In the Google form, they provide their send to Kindle email (different to the one they use to log in) and then they confirm that they've added you as an approved sender to their kindle device. Then, all you do is attach the EPUB/pdf file of your book to a blank email (no subject) addressed to their kindle email (hint: it ends in @kindle.com) and it's off! Just like that!
Or, you can send physical copies out but that gets very expensive!
Option B: netgalley or similar
These are sites that handle it all for you. You provide the file to them, they collect arc readers and send it out! There is a fee of course, but it is pretty safe! Only, depending on the level of service you pay for you may not have access to your readers' email addresses. Why is this a problem? Because it's a really good idea to send an email at release day (and maybe another a week or so later) so remind your readers to leave a review and to thank them personally. But ultimately it's up to you! Option A takes a lot of time, so they both have pros and cons.

In retrospect, you realize the outfit you wore and took hundreds of pics for a fanfic inspo gives off spicy selfie vibes; and now, you can no longer trust anyone with your phone.. 😳

Writing tips: ARC readers
ARC readers are truly a fantastic way to get word out on your book and also build interest in the lead up to its release. Since I've just sent out ARCs for my book, now seems like a good time to share what exactly they are!
So, what are they?
ARC stands for Advanced Review Copy, or sometimes Advanced Reader Copy. Completed copies of your book are sent out to readers (in your target audience) for free in exchange for an honest review.
For free? I hear you ask. Yes, my good friend. And there are several very valid reasons for this. Chief among them are these two. One- Amazon does not take paying someone in any form for a review well at all. I'm talking full loss of book, royalties or author profile, any of the above. So do not pay anyone! And, when you send out your free copy do not tell them to give you a five star rating. Amazon doesn't like that either. It must be free and it must be honest. (This is not just limited to Amazon either I should add but they are the biggest seller so they're the best to highlight)
The second is that it's just plain good manners. These people are doing you a favour by leaving a review and helping to generate business, and in exchange they get to read a book without paying for it. That's really pretty fair.
Anyway, so why do ARCs? They are a fantastic marketing strategy! How many times do you get turned off from a product (books, electronics, anything) when you find there aren't any reviews? Or when there aren't even any ratings? It makes a big difference! We like to know that a product will be worth our money and time. Having ARCs not only encourage people to buy, but can also encourage them to pre-order which is great for your rankings in bestseller lists which further helps to sell!
ARCs really are pretty cool.
