Caramel macchiato
Chapter 2! Also, the drink part is so fun, I hope you guys are enjoying that part as much as me.
Ghost had went home afterwards and stretched. He added the sleeve from his London Fog Latte to his hoard before slipping his shirt off and inspecting his back in the mirror.
Down his spine, a line, or maybe cut would be better, split his skin in half. It looked like a tattoo until he moved, the skin moving slightly. Ghost pulled out his dragon wings. A full shift wasn’t really possible in his flat. He’d be too big for the space. But his wings fit. Kinda. He had to be careful, but they had been hiding under his skin so long that he just wanted to stretch them.
They were black with gold speckling. There were no claws at the ends or anything, just simple black wings. They folded easily against his back again before stretching to their limits. The bones cracked and he made a pleased hum. His flat was set so there tons of big windows with sheer curtains to keep his privacy but also let tons of sunlight in. It also set on the top floor, basically a penthouse, so no one would be looking through his windows anytime soon.
Ghost had a bay window he usually lounged on and right now, he wanted nothing more but to soak in the sun. He stretched out and purred contently when the heat of the sun touched his skin.
His phone rang and Ghost pondered what he did to have friends who hated him so much. It was Alejandro, but that did not ease his frustration. Regardless, he picked up the phone.
They sat there silently for a moment before Alejandro started talking, apparently getting some signal that Ghost didn’t notice.
“Hey, so I was wonderin-”
“No.”
“If you wanted to come out later?” Alejandro ignored his interruption.
“Why does everyone want me to be social? I have a month on leave. I want to enjoy being away from you guys.”
Alejandro laughed. “You’d stay in your house like a hermit if not for us. Come on. Come out of your house.”
Ghost thought for a moment. “Not tonight, but tomorrow, do you want to go for coffee?”
“Simon… You know I thought we were going to walk around our chemistry forever.” Alejandro sounded very teasing.
“There’s a hot barista I want to see again.”
“Thank God. What his name?”
“His nametag says Soap. I hope I can find out his real name but I was stupid and didn’t even ask.” Ghost hummed. Soap had annoyingly been on his mind quite a bit. Stupid Scottish man.
“Soap? No weirder than Ghost I suppose.”
“Kill yourself.”
Alejandro laughed immediately. “See you in the morning, hermano.”
“Nos vemos.” Ghost responded before hanging up. He stretched again. Admittedly, he did some yoga. For his job, he needed to be flexible and just like his friend Koenig, he wasn’t exactly built for that naturally. Being big had a few disadvantages.
He considered it but he decided against it for now, instead taking a shower and looking over his hoard. Most of it was made of trinkets from his missions but there were a few personal items. A few hoodies that he had stolen from his friends over the years. Several book series he liked. Tons of jewelry that he thought glittered nicely. Technically, he considered several of his friends to be part of his hoard, but it was tangential. Strictly platonic and he didn’t exactly want to lay on them the way he did his other stuff. After a while, he went to bed, curling up and relaxing. Sleep took a while, but this was a fight Ghost was used to.
His internal clock woke him up at 5 am sharp. Ghost hated the military sometimes. But regardless, he got dressed and put his boots on. It was freezing outside and there was no snow on the ground. He put a coat on and gloves. His fingers tended to go numb when he got too cold and he didn’t to deal with that.
He walked for a while. Mostly just in circles honestly. His ending destination would be Alejandro and Rodolfo’s place and then he’d be heading to the Sealie Cafe. He’d probably order whatever Alejandro does. Trying to try more drinks and stuff.
Maybe he’d try one of those pastries.
Probably not. Ghost wasn’t a big sweets person.
Soap would probably taste sweet. And warm.
He stopped walking. This was hoarding behavior. An instinct to drag Soap up the mountain like he was a pretty princess that couldn’t defend himself.
Even if he did get closer to Soap, revealing himself was something that would take a lot of time. He hadn’t told Jason until they were almost adults and they had been friends since they were kids. His team knew because almost none of them were human, not anything to really hide.
But Soap would be different.
Wouldn’t really work anyway. His job didn’t really allow him to have long term relationships outside his colleagues. Jason was an exception and that was just because the man was stubborn and wanted to stay around him.
“Two ships passing in the night” was something that passed through Ghost’s mind. He arrived at Alejandro’s at 8 am and knocked, hearing them moving around.
Alejandro opened the door, hair sticking up everywhere. His curls hadn’t been layered down with products so they poked everywhere. He looked like shit.
“Did you just wake up?”
“Yes, Ghost. It is 8 am on our leave.”
“Well you guys keep demanding I get out so you just have to deal with it. Get dressed.”
Alejandro muttered something in Spanish and left. Ghost stepped in.
“Hey Ghost.” Rodolfo waved, clearly having been awake for a while. He looked much more put together. “So a barista huh?”
Ghost really should’ve seen that coming. Of course Alejandro would tell Rodolfo. “Yeah. I don’t plan on doing anything serious with him. Don’t have time.” If he told Rodolfo that, he’d stick to it.
“If you say so.”
“So you and Alejandro…”
“No.” Rodolfo said immediately, aggressively shoving a piece of egg from his Huevos Rancheros. “That’s not something I want to talk about right now. If you’re hungry, there’s food on the table.”
Ghost saluted him quickly and nodded. “Understandable. No thanks.” His body had decided as soon as he woke up that food just… wasn't going to work today. The thought made him nauseous.
Rodolfo nodded and smiled when Alejandro reentered the room. Alejandro smiled and said he’d grab lunch on the way home before leaving with Ghost.
The cafe was a little busy so they waited in line. Simon noticed that he was almost a head taller than everyone else and straightened up a bit. Alejandro laughed, but didn’t comment on it.
They stood at the front and Alejandro hummed. “Macchiato please.”
Soap narrowed his eyes. “Cafe or Latte?”
“Oh, cafe.”
“Okay, dude, look, a cafe is 3.75 and is a shot of espresso with a small amount of milk foam.” Ghost thought that sounded gross. “Latte is where its the milk with the espresso on top like the one from Starbucks.”
Alejandro frowned. “Yes. I know what they are.”
“Are you sure?” Soap stared him in his eyes.
Alejandro blinked. “Yes.”
“Okay! One cafe macchiato and then for you Ghost?” Soap smiled at him.
“I will take the one that’s from Starbucks.” Ghost wondered if Soap would stare at him like he just did Alejandro. Instead, he laughed and nodded.
“I’ll have that right out.” Soap stepped away to make it. It occurred to Ghost that he had never seen anyone else there.
“Him? Really?? Also, you forgot to ask his name.”
“Oh, I’ll get it in a second.” Ghost led Alejandro away to a table. He stretched. “So Rodolfo.”
“He looked so pretty this morning right?” Alejandro sounded dreamy, like a teen talking about their crush.
It took… a strong amount of self control to not roll his eyes. “You should ask him out.”
“We’ve been friends so long… What if he doesn’t see me that way? I don’t want to risk it, ya know?”
“I really think you’re overthinking it, Ale. Just… Ask him out.”
“No. it’s got to be romantic. Special.”
“Well if you don’t do it soon, he might not be there to ask.” Ghost pointed out, watching Alejandro glare at him. “I’m just saying. He’s an attractive guy. Wouldn’t be that hard for him.” He was being a little mean, but those two had been tiptoeing around each other so long. Alejandro had already admitted that he considered Rodolfo his. They were both dragons, so Ghost understood. He also understood if there was anything that would rile Alejandro up, it was the idea of Rodolfo no longer being his.
“He wouldn’t…”
“Are you expecting him to wait forever?” Ghost rubbed his face through the mask.
Soap appeared, perfect timing as always. He slid Alejandro’s drink to him and set Ghost’s down. “So do they really only call him Ghost?” He addressed it to Alejandro.
“Yep. Only name we use at work.”
“Ah. Disappointing.”
“I’ll tell you my name if you’ll tell me yours?” Ghost looked up at him, watching the soft blush on Soap’s face. Yeah, it definitely wasn’t the piercings and Ghost wanted to be the evil dragon in the story and drag him to a cave.
“Johnny.”
“Simon.”
“I think I prefer Ghost.” Soap winked at him and left.
Ghost felt like he was floating.
“How do you manage to look so lovestruck with just your eyes?”
Ghost kicked him hard under the table. Soap had decorated his drink again. Extra espresso, swirled slightly. The foam had once again been made in a heart with golden sprinkles over it. Ghost almost didn’t want to drink it.
“The favoritism here is nauseating.”
“What was it like? When he stared at you?”
Alejandro looked at him like he was a delinquent. “Like he was stabbing my soul directly for every customer that’s ever gotten confused by the difference.”
“Hot.”

CHAPTER ONE — WOMAN
MAY 1, 2003
Saturday night. Not quite as busy as Friday, but busy enough to make you question if the money you make at this place is worth it. But Jessie thought the same thing last Saturday, and the Saturday before. It was an endless cycle for her and thousands of other college students trying to make ends meet.
For Jessie in particular, this was her second shift of the day. Her first was spent at her mother’s hair salon; answering phones and sweeping up ungodly amounts of hair. It was boring, but, god, she wished she was there instead of at the diner.
At this moment, she was trapped in a conversation with a particularly talkative regular. She could hardly even understand him with the countless other conversations going on around her and the crashing of dishes being thrown in bus tubs. She mostly pretended to be engaged in the conversation.
As overwhelming everything was, Jessie kept her cool. She always did. No matter how rude or insufferable a customer was acting, she kept a sickeningly sweet smile on her face. She felt it was the perfect weapon, truly. In a world where being a young woman meant you were at a disadvantage, being overly kind and never letting anyone see they had bothered her was her defense mechanism.
“Hey, smiles!”
Ech. Jessie hated that nickname, but it snapped her out of the one-sided conversation she was stuck in. She reluctantly turned to meet whoever called her. To her surprise, it was someone she actually enjoyed talking to. Her smile returned as she left the old man to greet them.
Tommy and Joel Miller were two of Jessie’s favorite regulars. At least twice a week, they would come in to visit her. Jessie always thought they just really liked the food, but it was hardly good enough to come in twice a week for. They were here for her. Well, Joel was. Tommy was there for moral support.
“You’re just in time. I thought I’d never get away,” Jessie leaned up against the side of the booth as the two brothers sat down across from one another.
“You looked like you needed saving,” Tommy played along, sharing a knowing look with Joel.
Joel never talked nearly as much as Tommy. The most he would say was a few awkward lines of small talk and the occasional compliment if he worked up enough courage. Jessie took his shyness as just that. She thought his clumsy conversation starters and stuttered compliments were charming. She found him charming. A family man at his core, good with his hands, and not to mention, he was definitely easy on the eyes.
“What did you get up to today? Anything interesting?”
“Nope,” Joel retorts almost immediately, earning a giggle from her. “How was your day though?”
Tommy looks at Joel, a bit surprised that he actually sounded smooth. When the brothers were younger, Joel had no problem talking to women. After all, he taught Tommy how to talk to women. But it had been years since Joel had even wanted to try dating. He kept himself busy with Sarah and work and he liked it that way. The less time he had to himself, the less time he had alone with his thoughts.
“Better now,” She almost mumbles, putting her pen to her notebook. “The usual?” Tommy smiled at Joel as he struggled to find the right words for a moment, caught up on what she said.
“Yes, ma’am.” Tommy replies politely for him.
“You got it.” Jessie turned on her heel to return to the kitchen and put in their order. She kept a noticeable sway in her hips as she walked away, knowing that the boys are gentlemanly, but they are still men. And she was right.
“What was that. What did that mean.” Joel demands in a quiet voice, looking sternly at Tommy.
“Dude, she was flirting back! I told you it would work!” The brother exclaims in a hushed tone. A blush instantaneously formed on Joel’s cheeks and he covered it with his hand, playing it off as if he’s smoothing his facial hair down.
“No fuckin’ way, she didn’t mean it like that.” He looked around nervously to make sure she hadnt suddenly appeared and could hear everything they were saying.
“She definitely meant it like that. She looked back to make sure you were looking at it too.” Joel kicked him under the table, making him laugh.
“Shut the fuck up, man,”
“No, I’m serious--”
“No, shut up!” Joel said lowly through gritted teeth. Tommy turned to see Jessie arriving at the end of their table, two coffee’s in hand.
“Don’t make me separate you two.” She joked, setting the mugs down in front of them.
“He started it,” Tommy played along, making her laugh. Joel couldn’t help but smile at the sound.
“Behave. I’ll be back to check on you.” She turned away again to help another customer. Joel watched her leave again, not in a disrespectful way, but almost as if he wanted to savor every glimpse and angle he could of her. Her silhouette was engraved in his brain and he could picture her face perfectly. Her sunkissed skin from the Texas heat and wavy brown hair was constantly on his mind.
“You look like a creep right now.” Joel glared at Tommy, finally breaking his gaze from her.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me, Tommy,” He lets his head fall into his hands as his elbows are propped up on the table. He rubs his eyes and rubs his temples. “I can’t get her out of my head.”
“I can see why.” Joel opens his eyes again to see Tommy looking somewhere out of his field of vision but he doesn’t have to look to know what he’s looking at.
“Don’t look at her like that. She’s not like the girls you go after.”
“Oh, yeah? What kind of girls do I go after?” Joel glared at his brother again as he sipped his coffee now that it’d cooled a bit.
“She’s different. She’s confident, funny, she’s...everything that I’m not.”
“Hey, don’t talk like that. You are Joel fuckin’ Miller,” Tommy poked a strong finger into his brothers shoulder. “You were swimming in it before you had Sarah.”
“That’s not who I am anymore, Tommy--”
“I know, I know. You’re a man now. And she is a woman.” Joel rolled his eyes and relaxed in the booth behind him.
“She’s…something.”
After they had received their food from a runner, the hustle and bustle of the diner finally started to die down. They were almost finished with their plates when they were one of two booths left in the place. Jessie could be seen cleaning the bar, stray strands of hair falling in front of her face as she focused.
“Do you guys need some more coffee?” She asked without looking up. It was quiet in the diner with the absence of the dinner rush. The boys sighed and looked at their half-empty mugs.
“Better not, it’s late--”
“Sure! Thank you.” Tommy cut him off, giving him another sly smile. Jessie instinctively made her way over to the booth, coffee pot now in hand. Her tennis shoes squeaked against the cheap tile as she approached.
“One more cup couldn’t hurt, right?” She chuckled and grinned as she filled their mugs again. Joel was about to respond before he was cut off by who they presumed was her manager calling to her through the window to the kitchen behind the bar.
“Jessie, finish up those tables and you can go. I can’t afford you working over time.” The girl turned to meet her coworker. At least she was honest.
“Oh! Okay!” She called back politely. She returned her focus go the boys again. “Sounds like it’s my lucky day.” Sarcasm practically soaked her words, making Joel laugh heartily. She didn’t think it was that funny, but seeing him enjoy it that much made her giggle along. Tommy looked at the two with an inquisitive brow, slightly judging them.
“What time do you usually get off?” Tommy had to keep his eyes from widening in shock. Joel? Small talk? He hated it with a burning passion. If it wasn’t for the southern hospitality in his veins he wouldn’t engage in it with anyone. But with her, he didn’t mind. He just wanted a few more seconds of her time.
“Around eleven. Midnight if I’m stuck doing two people’s jobs.”
“I know the feeling.” Joel turned to Tommy, gesturing to him over the brim of his mug as he took another generous sip. Jessie chuckled again, letting her hand fall to Joel’s shoulder. Sparks ignited at the site and he tried to surpress the urge to force her hand back when she removed it casually. Tommy rolled his eyes but let them continue chatting. He hadn’t seen this kind of glow on his brothers face in years, and for that, he’d let it slide.
“You guys are carpenters, right?” Tommy nearly spit out his coffee.
“Contractors. We build homes and stores, stuff like that.” If anyone, meaning any other person than Jessie, had asked that question, Joel would’ve laughed in their face. But since it was her, he couldn’t care less. Her voice sounded like music to his ears. She could be insulting him for all he cared, he just wanted her to keep talking.
“Ooh, okay. Sorry, I hope that wasn’t offensive or something. Do Carpenters and Contractors get along?” She mused, this time earning a chuckle from both of the boys.
“Yes, actually, never say that again,” Tommy played along, making the group laugh harder.
“Well, I better get to it. Boss doesn’t like me talking to customers for too long.” She turned slightly, still letting her eyes linger on Joel. “See ya.”
“Sure.” And with that, she was waltzing away from them, that confident sway in her hips returning. Joel watched her leave, the glow on his face being replaced with a look of longing.
“You’re in deep shit, yknow it?”
“Hm?” His gaze didn’t falter.
“You’re in love with her.”
“What?” He was paying attention now, his head whipping towards his brother.
“You haven’t looked at someone that way since—“
“Don’t.” Tommy listened, forcing his mouth shut. He tapped his fingers on the table to release some kind of frustration.
“I’m just saying. She could be good for you.” Tommy said as calmly as he could. The table fell silent for a moment as Joel massaged his forehead with his calloused hands. Joel finally spoke up after a long moment.
“I know. I’m just trying to take it slow. Really slow.” His hands returned to his lap, but he still couldn’t look his brother in the eye.
“Fine. Just don’t make her wait too long.” They were quiet again before Tommy rose to his feet, fixing his belt. Joel followed, grabbing the ticket. He looked down at it in his hands. Her signature “Thank you!” was written in a graceful cursive with a heart scribbled next to it. Pink ink. Joel scoffed. His brother was right. He was in deep, deep, shit.
Out in the parking lot, where Jessie should have already left for the night, she was instead starting her car for the tenth time, just for it to sputter out.
“God fucking—“ She took her frustration out on the wheel, hitting it with her open palms over and over again. “DAMNIT!” She pulled herself out of the car, charging over to the hood and popping it up angrily. She looked down at the contents and realized she had absolutely no idea what she was doing. Her palm found her forehead as she stepped back in defeat. Tears had just begun to prick her eyes when she saw two men leaving the diner.
“Shit, darlin’ you alright?” His familiar southern drawl comforted her like a warm blanket. The brothers instinctively jogged over to her in concern.
“Yeah,” Her voice was trembling and unreliable. “Just car troubles.” She sniffed and wiped her face, hoping to hide the emotions she felt. Tommy sprang into action, turning the key for himself. A horrendous clicking noise erupted from her engine again.
“Oh, you just need a jump. I’ll pull the truck around.” His calm tone instantly made her relax as she let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding in.
“Easy fix.” Joel reassured her, joining her at the front of her car. She smiled softly at him, grateful. Tommy was on the other side of the parking lot and Joel saw an opportunity. He pulled his wallet out of his back pocket and flipped it open, taking out a thin card.
“Call me if you have car troubles again.” He teased, returning his wallet to his pocket. She stifled a blush unsuccessfully as she accepted the card.
“Thank you. Really, I appreciate it.” Standing with her like this, he saw her at a different angle. He drank up every bit of her with his eyes. Her gimmicky diner uniform that she despised openly hugged her curves in just the right spots. The way she looked up at him, he could almost sense a glimpse of yearning in her too. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her. For a moment, they were stuck, wondering what the other was thinking. The roar of their pickup truck as it pulled in next to them jolted them out of their trance. Tommy hopped out of the driver seat and threw a duffel bag at Joel. He caught it skillfully and set it on the ground next to the wheel of the truck. Tommy popped the hood and stopped the truck. Joel pulled two wires out of the bag, one black and one red.
“Here’s negative,” He lifted one up to show her. “Here’s positive.” He clipped one to part of the battery and the other to a piece of metal next to it.
“Positive to negative and negative to ground,” He looked back at her as he straightened his back, still holding the other ends of the wires in his hands. “Okay? And never let these touch.” She nodded and grinned at him, unable to contain her blush now. He connected the other ends of the wires to mirroring spots under her hood.
“Start it up, Tommy!” His assertiveness sparked butterflies in her stomach. The truck roared back to life, almost making her jump. Joel took his position in her drivers seat, turning her key again. After a few tries, her car was resurrected as well. She gasped as if she’d seen a magic trick. Joel emurged from your car once again, a confident smile on his face.
“Thank you both so much. You saved my life.” The boys laughed.
“Just doing our civil duties, ma’am.” Tommy played along. “Be careful getting home.”
“Yes, please,” Joel added. He was a dad, he couldn’t help it. “And call me if you need me. Anything…” She smiled and nodded.
“Sure. Thanks.” Their gaze lingered like it had before. Neither one wanted to see the other go.
“Have a good night, Jess.”
“You too…” And with that, Joel reluctantly rounded the side of his truck and climbed into the drivers seat. Tommy took his place at the side closest to her.
“Night.” He smiled knowingly at her, making her look down bashfully at her ugly mandatory kitten heels.
“Yeah, yeah.” She turned to her car, hearing him chuckle behind her as she got in.
On her drive home with the windows down and her hair flowing behind her, she thought about a lot. Mainly, how the fuck she was gonna tell her mom about Joel? One thing she knew for sure, though, was she wanted to see him again. He might mean trouble for her, but she was willing to take her chances on him.

Take It Easy - Little Movie Star Chapter Four (Jensen Ackles x Daughter!Reader)
[Actors-Masterlist], [Little Movie Star-Masterlist]
Previous Chapter / Next Chapter
Summary: The aftermath of the hate comments. Jensen explained that the future would not be easy if you had a public life. Bonding time with Danneel was appreciated & a revelation left Jensen with a plan for you.
Words: 2,022
Warnings: language, mentions of cyber bullying, bonding time, fluff, tiny bit of angst, fake social media posts (picture credits go to their rightful owners)
If you like my work & wanna support me: a coffee would be highly appreciated ❤
~2016~
Sunrise came sooner than anticipated. Wanting to procrastinate the talk with Jensen & Danneel, you slowly dragged yourself out of bed & went to the bathroom. Risking a look in the mirror was a big mistake. Your eyes were puffy from all the crying you did yesterday. Technically, you could go for sunglasses. Nope, you could not do that. You know who wears sunglasses inside? Blind people…& douchebags. Chuckling slightly at your own joke. Hopping in the shower real quick, you hoped the warm water could calm you down enough.
After putting on a comfortable outfit for the day, you took a deep breath & started walking to JJ’s room. It had become quite the routine for you. If you were up early enough, you stopped by her room & took her with you downstairs. Knocking softly & opening the door slowly, you saw her already awake, waiting for you to pick her up.
“Good morning, princess. Slept well?” she nodded eagerly & stretched out her arms.
“Let’s get to breakfast then.” smiling sweetly at her. Just for a second, you forgot all about last night & just lived in the moment. Oh, if it were that easy all the time…
Tumblr media
Silent voices made you stop in your tracks. Eavesdropping was not something you usually did but you could not help yourself. Besides, you could tell that this conversation resembled around you.
“Maybe she hasn’t seen the comments yet.”
“Oh come on, Dee. Of course she has. I mean, our comment sections are filled with that bullshit.” Jensen was deeply hurt by what some of his fans were saying about you, after one single post.
“What should we do?” Danneel sighed.
“We talk to her.” that was when you coughed to bring the attention to yourself. They turned around & looked surprised by your sudden appearance. You set JJ down & crossed your arms over your chest.
“Sorry for listening in on you guys.” your eyes flickered down because deep down, you knew what you did was not okay.
“Hey, no, it’s fine. We wanted to talk to you anyway.” Jensen walked over to you, followed by Danneel.
“Please don’t listen to any of them, angel.” the nickname made your eyes shot up & when you looked at Danneel, you could feel the tears threatening to escape. Jensen could tell right away & wrapped his strong arms around your frame. You did not care about being vulnerable in front of them. Even though you were sure you would regret your actions in a few hours from now.
Tumblr media
Breakfast was filled with conversation between the three of you. JJ & the twins were not understanding anything anyway & you were glad that they were too young to care about stupid comments made by anonymous people on the internet.
“I’m sorry, (Y/N).” Jensen’s voice was filled with disappointment. Though, you were not sure if it was directed at his fans or at his decision of making an Instagram post in the first place.
“None of this is your fault.” reassuring him quietly.
“You don’t deserve this. And we don’t want you to think that we’re not happy with you being here because that is bullshit. We love having you here.” Danneel’s hand found yours on the table & she gave you a little squeeze that put a small smile on your face. You were about to tell them something you had never admitted to anyone before. It was a big step for you & you were making yourself even more vulnerable in front of them. But they seemed genuinely concerned about you & you did not know why but you believed what they were saying. You just hoped your trust in them was not misplaced.
“It’s just…It’s not the first time I’ve heard something like that. A lot of the families I had been to previously had shared their opinions with me. I’m used to it, I don’t even know why it’s affecting me this much.” Jensen & Danneel shared a look with each other. Yes, they were happy that you were sharing a little bit of your past with them but what you shared broke their hearts. The worst thing was that they knew it was not the only thing that had happened to you. There had to be so much more that you still had not told them & they were scared what would come in the future.
“Can you promise me something?” Jensen waited until you met his eyes. “If you have thoughts like that, you come to us immediately. Because whatever your mind tries to tell you, it ain’t true. A lot of these comments are not only hurtful but also threatening. And I’ll put a stop to this right now.” he pulled out his phone & opened twitter. He showed Danneel & you the tweets before he hit send. Afterwards, they told you that comments similar to what you had read will continue to come at your way, simply because they were celebrities. After all, you were part of their family now & therefore your life would also be kind of public. As much as you would allow it anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To some, these tweets might not be a lot but to you, they meant the world. After Jensen tweeted these, you grabbed your own phone, opened Instagram & reposted the picture you took yesterday.
Tumblr media
You meant every single word because you did feel like a part of this family & why you still could not understand why they wanted you in the first place, you were more than happy that you were here still. A few weeks ago, you would have never thought to stay with them for so long. Yeah, they really meant it when they said they wanted you to be a part of them.
“I know exactly what we need!” Danneel stood up & you gave her a confused look. What was she planning?
“Girls-Day.” giving you a wink, she helped you out of your seat & gave you a light push, telling you to get dressed so you guys could go shopping. Danneel was aware that you were still slightly uncomfortable whenever you were alone with her but she wanted to change that & what better way than a shopping trip together?
Tumblr media
The trip to the local mall was very much needed. Danneel warned you about possible paparazzi & the thought made you nervous. What if you did not look good? What if it gave the media something negative to report on? Danneel silenced your thoughts by dragging you into the first shop. Your shopping spree was successful & you came back with tons of shopping bags. Feeling bad because you did not pay for anything, Danneel assured you that it was no problem. Besides, you did not have a lot of clothing to begin with & she told you that you needed it. Also, she gave you permission to raid her closet any time you wanted. And who were you to decline such an offer?
“Successful much?” Jensen joked when the two of you entered the house, struggling with all the bags you were carrying. He gave you a hand & set some of the bags on the couch. Your mood had changed drastically if you were to compare yourself to a few hours prior.
“Jensen, can you help (Y/N) putting her stuff in her room?” Danneel grabbed some of her bags, definitely not nearly as many as were filled with your clothing.
Tumblr media
After putting all of the bags on your bed, Jensen offered to help you putting them away in your closet & you thanked him. While the two of you got to work, he commented on some of the clothes that he was storing away & said that you & Danneel chose a lot of great looking things.
“So, how was today?” Jensen started a conversation & you were not in the mood to lie to him so you told him the truth, the entire truth for once.
“A rollercoaster of emotions. But it ended great.” shooting an honest smile his way, one, that he copied.
“I know it’d be easier if we weren’t popular & all that.” he sighed.
“Not all of it is bad, though. I mean, you get so much love on a daily basis.”
“True, but it can be frustrating, especially when family gets involved. Still happens with Danneel sometimes.”
“Really?”
“Oh yeah, you know, when people get jealous & all that.”
“I’m sorry.” a tight lipped smile was on your face.
“Nothing to be sorry for. This life has its perks, but it also has a lot of disadvantages. When you’ve been in this business for so long, you start blocking out the negative comments...Hey, that was the last piece, we did it.” raising his hand for you to give him a high-five.
Falling backwards on your bed, Jensen mimicked your actions, you let out a long, satisfied sigh. Today had been exhausting, both mentally & physically.
“Now that we know that you enjoy shopping…what else do you do for fun?”
“Um, I guess a lot of creative stuff. I like writing. Taking pictures. Drawing. Oh, this will sound ironic, but I actually like acting a lot.” that peaked his interest. He propped up his arm & laid his head on it.
“Really?”
“Yeah, I mean...Whenever I imagine playing a role, it helps me control my emotions.”
“Do you have any experience?” he curiously asked. Maybe you had acted somewhere before?
“God, no. Just because I like it doesn’t mean I’m good at it.” laughing shortly, then you continued. “It’s not like there were a lot of opportunities coming my way growing up.” shrugging, you enjoyed the comfortable silence that followed. Shortly after, Jensen walked out of your room, telling you to get some sleep.
A plan was starting to form in his head. He had connections & if acting really was something that you enjoyed, why not trying? The producers had the last word & then he could see if it really was something that was just a hobby to you. He had a feeling that you would surprise him, though. Dialing the next person that came to his mind, he wanted to hear his opinion.
“Hey, man. How are you?”
“Hi, Jared. I’m great, thanks.”
“How’s (Y/N) doing?”
“Danneel & her went shopping today. But look, she just told me something.”
The conversation went on for a while & Jared was on board with Jensen’s plan. Still, it was meant to stay secret for the time being. They planned a dinner in a few days from now. Just him, Danneel & you, joined by Jared & Gen. It would also be your first time meeting them. This decision was made shorty after you arrived at the Ackles’ house. Simply because you were freaking overwhelmed with the entire situation & had to get used to them at first. Now, it felt like a good time to introduce you to the Padalecki’s. At the dinner, they would tell you about their little plan. Before that could happen, though, Jensen had to make a few more phone calls to set everything up. Hopefully, you would not kill him after finding out. No, he could tell that you were being serious about this. You might not admit it but he noticed that your passion for acting was way bigger than you let on.
~to be continued~

CHAPTER 06
While the HMS pogue cut it’s way through the river all the pogues, except JJ and Y/N, chatted happily sharing some cool beers Kie had previously brought with her.
“What’s going on?” Kiara asked her friends due to the strange silence between them. She was used to break their fights and now they didn’t even talked.
“Nothing.” Y/N started, a bit annoyed. “Aside from my best friends basically kidnapping me.” Y/N looked at JJ who agreed with his head at her saying. “What did you said to my mom?”
“Oh that..” Kiara changed her body language, automatically looking over at the other boys who didn’t seem very excited to explain either.
“Before they start, I just want to say I wasn’t participating I was just supervising!” Pope said. Raising both hands in the air.
“What could you possibly say to my mother that is worse than what you already done to us?” Y/N asked, afraid of the answer.
“We said you and JJ went on a date.” John B announced fast.
“What?” The red head girl gasped.
“That’s not all we said.” Kiara began.
“Are you guys insane?” JJ manifested.
“They are!” Pope pointed at John B and Kiara.
“We also told your mother you were dating JJ.” John B tried not to laugh.
“I’m going to kill everyone of you while you all sleep.” Y/N was beyond pissed. “I bet my mom didn’t believe that bullshit.”
“Well, she actually did.” Pope said. “She even said she already suspected it.”
JJ and Y/N shared a disgusted look between them. The idea of them dating seemed so surreal to Y/N she almost felt sick to her stomach. The idea of dating Y/N scared JJ, he never had a actual serious girlfriend and he knew Y/N didn’t do the whole one night stand stuff. They were polar opposites.
In the next few days Y/N was on a mission to avoid her mom. She slept at Kiara’s home most of the days and when she eventually went home Y/N didn’t stayed long enough for her mom to ask any questions or even have the talk. Y/N never took any boys home, no one ever stood a chance with her for she always thought they were stupid and didn’t care about the same things as her. They didn’t see her for her but rather for her looks and Y/N loathed them for that. The other boys saw her as a price, a price they could never claim for Y/N was no trophy. She was free, she was a force of nature, she had the ocean’s soul in her spirit.
“Hello? Y/N?” Kiara called while snapping two fingers in her best friends face.
They were all at the beach enjoying a hot late afternoon after a surf session but Y/N’s mind was off and far from being chill. She had a storm called JJ Maybank living inside her mind creating a itch she couldn’t scratch. All the looks she receive around the island made her want to fight them for believing in her best friends lie.
“Wha-”
Y/N wasn’t able to finish her sentence because JJ picked her up throwing her in his shoulder easily, running at the waves direction. She screamed loud enough to catch everyone’s attention, her friends just laughed at the view.
When the cold water hit her body she swore it felt like tiny needles poking her.
“JJ why would you do this?” Y/N fumed.
“Because we need to talk, girlfriend.” He tried to keep her in place while she tried to run back to her towel.
“Fuck off and don’t call me that.” Y/N pulled JJ’s hair making him let her go off his grip.
Back at the sand her friends were laughing at the top of her lungs pointing at her and the blue eyed boy and that alone made her angry. They were having so much fun with her situation and she wanted to kick their asses.
“Even if you two were dating I bet it wouldn’t last for a month.” Pope said trying to catch his breath with a hand on his toned chest.
“A month? I wouldn’t give these two more than a week, with luck.” Kiara made her point.
“I’m done with this, I’m going home.” Y/N was livid, at the point off almost crying with anger. “Have fun.”
“And your mom?” John B inquired, they knew she was avoiding her mom for dear life.
“I don’t care.” She mumbled. “I will deal with her.” She said shrugging her shoulders. “But I can’t deal with this bullshit now.” Y/N pointed at her friends.
When she finished packing her things JJ tried to stop her but he couldn’t catch her in time to talk to her, so he decided to call it a day as well making his way back to John B’s chateau.
Once home the redheaded girl thanked god her mom wasn’t home, Tina had left her a note.
“I’m working a late shift don’t wait for me, we still need to talk about JJ, I love you honey.”
A loud sigh was heard from her, after reading the note Y/N made her way to the bathroom, she needed a warm bath to relax from before. When she was done and the water had run cold Y/N stepped out and dressed some comfy clothes, her plan for the night was to lay in her bed and ignore her problems. Pretending like she didn’t even existed.
But the girl was in a bad luck strike for her phone rang with a buzz not long after she started watching Gossip Girl on netflix.
With was a text message from JJ, which was weird, they never texted. They only texted each other to mock one another or when he sent her memes making fun of her, which she secretly laughed at and sometimes saved them. Something she would never admit to anyone.
JJ 🏄🏼‍♂️: Meet me at our beach in 15, we need to talk. I’m serious now.
JJ was never serious so she knew something was going on. She didn’t knew why she jumped right off her bed first thing when she finished reading the text message, she put on her black vans and grabbed her oversized jean jacket along with her keys on her way out.
As soon as Y/N’s had arrived at the beach both her and JJ surfed, the reason he called it their beach, she saw JJ standing there, with his back against the lifeguard house, in his hand a lit joint.
“Why did you call me here JJ?” Y/N voice was soft, she was actually tired. “I don’t want to fight.”
“Neither do I.” The boy agreed. “But I think we should get back at them for this little stupid prank.” JJ suggests.
They sat together at the steps and JJ offered to share his joint with the red head girl, who normally didn’t smoke but it had been a long day so she gladly took his offer, immediately surprise because JJ weed was strong.
“What’s the plan?” She asked after freeing the smoke from her lips, passing the joint to JJ.
“We should let everyone think we are actually dating, for a month.” JJ said serious. He wasn’t joking.
“You mean, date date?”
“Yes smartass, date date.” JJ giggled at her confusion.
“You’re insane.” The girl blurred out. “Last week we couldn’t stand being close and now you want to pretend we are together.” She pointed back and forth between them. “Actual dating, as in you are my boyfriend.” She laughed.
If there was one thing Y/N and JJ had in common it was their pride. Both of them being to stubborn to lose a bet or to let anyone say they couldn’t do a certain thing. But they never thought the pogues would use that in their disadvantage.
“So what you say, frenemies baby?” JJ held his hand her way.
“Frenemies.” They said in unison.
“But meet me at my place tomorrow, we need to figure this thing out.” Y/N warned JJ while getting up.
“Is lunch included in that talk?” JJ questioned with a raised brow.
“I can make something.” Y/N rolled her eyes.
“Then it’s a date babe.” JJ winked at her blowing her a kiss but Y/N raised her middle finger at him.

[Whitty x Boyfriend]
Chapter 3 - He's dangerous
Pico didn't like the idea of Boyfriend going to see this mystery man, and his gut feeling would only be made worse if his idea of who the stranger was, was correct. He only usually closed himself off in his room when he's in deep thought, or when he's organizing business. Right now, it was the latter.
He couldn't stop thinking about Boyfriend's surprise visit. Why did he hesitate to tell his name? He wasn't stupid, he could tell the guy was lying, the only problem is without a name, he wasn't totally sure if this target was the same guy he was hanging out with. Lying down on his queen sized mattress, he sighed, taking the cigarette out of his mouth. He couldn't help but feel guilt for the plan he would come up with. He didn't like the idea of using his dear, close friend, especially since he quite liked him, but there's no other way to get the info out of him. Speaking of..
He heard a knock on his door. He quickly got up, put out his cigarette, and made his way down to answer. Of course, when he opened it, there stood Boyfriend, holding his beloved microphone. "Pi- oh! Sorry, am I bothering you?" The blue haired's face went red as he noticed Pico wasn't wearing a shirt. "Nope, you're just on time actually." Pico couldn't help but chuckle at the flustered male. "Come on, I'll make some tea." The ginger turned to retreat back into his house, and Boyfriend followed loosely behind him. He's seen Pico shirtless a lot, sure, but he still couldn't get used to seeing him like that. He wondered why.
"So, you come bearing more news about this mystery man of yours?" Pico's voice echoed from his place in the kitchen. "Well.. Yes and no." Boyfriend made himself at home right on Pico's couch of course, kicking his legs up onto the cushions. Pico noticed he's been in such a happy-go-lucky mood ever since meeting this guy. He was starting to suspect he had a crush. "We haven't hung out recently. I just wanted to you know.. kick it with you for a bit." He stated with a grin. Pico rolled his eyes and returned to the living room, holding a cup of coffee and a cup of tea. "Gee, who's fault is that?" He teased, and Boyfriend sat up with a whine, allowing the ginger to sit next to him. "I'm sorry! It's just.. I just really feel for him you know?" Pico only nodded.
"You barely know him Bee." Pico reminded him. "But I bought him food! He ate it! All of it! Like.. Oh my god.. If you were there you would know how much he ate I ordered one of everything." Boyfriend shuddered a little. He was thankful for him finishing the food though. "With who's money?" Pico snorted, and Boyfriend pouted, almost dejectedly. "Gigi's." He answered honestly. "Well.. At least it sounded like you had fun." The ginger glanced away, taking a brisk sip of his black coffee. The bitter taste kept him awake. "I'd love for you to actually meet him this weekend." Boyfriend then spoke up. Pico blinked in surprise. He hadn't expected it to be handed to him like that. "This weekend? Wh- You could barely tell me his name yesterday." He set his cup down and crossed his arms. "I know! But I'll talk him into meeting you and Gigi and Nene and Darnell and the spooky boys!" The smaller male almost squealed in delight.
Pico didn't like the idea of his information being put out there to strangers-especially considering his reputation-but he guessed that was up to Boyfriend's innocence. Pico found it hard to stay mad at him. How could he? He sighed, looking the blue haired male up and down. "I.. guess it's fine. Just as long as he's not smelly, who knows where that guy's been lying around." He scrunched up his nose in distaste. Boyfriend grinned, thankful for Pico's blessing, then hugged him tightly, an action that made Pico's face go a slight shade of red. "Yeah yeah whatever, just.." He huffed in embarrassment, turning his head as Boyfriend buried his face into his chest. This blueberry had no sense of personal space, did he?
___________________________________________
Whitty hated to admit it, but he had been thinking about that shorty all day.
So much so, he ended up walking around the area they first met. He almost hadn't noticed his feet subconsciously leading him back to that alley. He only realised when he looked at his crude graffiti where he was, and had an immediate thought to flee but.. instead he sat against the wall. He couldn't help but get second hand embarrassment from the simple thought of his break down during their first battle. He looked down and took out a small phone that was gifted to him some time ago. During their afternoon binge yesterday-well his afternoon binge-he had gotten his phone number in case he needed to call or something. Of course, he wasn't planning on calling any time soon. He wasn't the type to ask for anything, but he was tempted to ask if they could hang out again today.
As he opened Boyfriend's contact, he paused, suddenly becoming aware of his surroundings. He set the phone in his pants pocket and stood back up. He could've sworn he heard movement...He stared intensely at the entrance to the alley way. It wasn't the sound of eager yet gentle foot steps by Boyfriend. It was definitely not friendly.
He stuck his hands in his jacket pockets. He was starting to take steps back with each sound he heard, only to see about three-four? About four figures make their way into the alley. He was trapped, he had no where to run. This alley was a dead end. "See boss? I told you he would be here!" A small, yet gritty voice exhoed along the walls, followed by a loud "shhh!" with another loud "shhh!!"
Whitty could recognise these voices. He's heard them before. In this same spot, weeks ago. They were part of some gang that was out for his bounty. He didn't bother to learn the name, all he knew was that everyone was an enemy. Well.. except for Boyfriend of course. "Whitty, right?" The tallest male stood to the front. His voice was just as gritty, and he had pale skin, straight brown hair and was wearing what seemed to be casual attire. In fact, all of them looked similar. The only intimidating thing to a normal person would be his demeanor and the fact he's above 5'10. Whitty, however, was no normal person. He was a target. By everyone.
___________________________________________
Boyfriend sighed happily, just leaving Pico's house. He left with some conflicted feelings, butterflies in his stomach, and red constantly plastered on his cheeks. Sure he thought he had a crush on Pico for a while now but.. He might have been distracted with Whitty. The way his body grew hot at every tiny touch Pico gave him. He can't even see the guy shirtless without becoming a flustered mess. He could tell something was up with Pico too. Maybe he should talk to him about it..
He decided to run and stop at his favorite cafe. He wished he could sit with Whitty in the place. He thought Whitty would like the decor inside. It's warm, quiet, and they give tasty snacks. Boyfriend smiled at the thought of Whitty. He wondered what he was doing. Taking care of himself he hoped. He should probably stop by that alley they first met in, check to see if he left anything there possibly. He did leave in a hurry. Maybe he left his favorite.. thing?? Okay, he'll admit, he had no real reason to go. He just kind of... wanted to think about the taller guy. That's fine, right?
___________________________________________
Whitty had been trying his best to stand his ground. His main advantage, and disadvantage, was his height. He found it hard to get back up after being knocked down, so the plan was to stay on his feet. "Why don't you scumbags fuck off somewhere?" The bomb man scoffed, feeling the heat in his head begin, and his fuse started to light. "And miss out on this opportunity? No. You're lucky we want to take you alive." All four of them advanced. They planned to rush him. Whitty's been in a tussle a couple of times, but never with more than two people. Their first plan was to surround him, and take him down that way. He tried to focus and not panic,  taking his hands out of his pockets and balling them into fists. They lit ablaze as if he were holding fire, and he turned around, throwing a punch at the guy to his left, catching them all by surprise. They honestly though he was the flight type.
"AH!! SHIT!" The male yelled in pain, but Whitty could care less. These guys were here supposedly to kidnap him or something. The other two goons went in, one grabbing his arm, thinking he could simply flip him over, and the other on his leg to catch him off balance. The big male stumbled, but forced himself to the side instead of on his back, pushing against the alley wall. He growled, an angry growl, before picking up the smaller guy on his leg by the neck. His hand seared the skin around his hold, and the other male tried to get him to drop him since he was practically cooking his throat.
The man who received the first punch finally recuperated, and dashed over to help. Shame, these three were gonna get killed by the hands of this thing. Everyone knows the leaders tend to make the smartest decisions. He's the leader right? This fight wasn't winnable with only four guys. Not with this big ass creature that seemed to become more and more unhinged with every second, almost as if he were taking pleasure in burning these men alive.
Whitty threw away the severely burned man and turned to the guy on his arm, who had tried to stab him with a needle, but the moment he touched the bare arm, it was like touching a burning stove. Whitty couldn't help but laugh, grabbing this man by the wrist with one hand, and catching the other by the arm as he tried to jump onto him. Yeah.. This is karma right? Their screams of pain, agony, they deserved more than to burn alive.
___________________________________________
Boyfriend was almost skipping down the sidewalk, but scrunched his nose at the smell of something burning. It seemed like it was coming right from where he was planning to go too. Was Whitty there? Granted it could just be a hobo using a fire to cook or something but... this was a different smelling burn. A smell he's never smelled before, and it formed a pit in his stomach, though he could never explain why.
He didn't rush popping his head around the corner. The sight made him pale, clamping a hand over his mouth.
Was that.. Whitty?
No way, had to be an evil twin or something..
No, it definitely was Whitty. He was crying.. and laughing? The burning smell was because of him. It was burning clothes, burning flesh. Two men were out on the ground, seeming to have accumulated severe burn wounds, singed clothing.. he almost thought they were dead. "You fucked with the wrong guy. Four dudes?? That's all you got?" He heard Whitty laugh. The laugh wasn't like any Boyfriend had heard. When he saw the man he was holding, he had to step in. "W-Whitty!" He choked, and Whitty stopped almost immediately. He stopped everything. He stopped crying. He stopped laughing. He was no longer heated. It was like his brain had to process what the fuck was going on, and he knew what it was when  Boyfriend hesitantly stepped within his radius. "Whitty.. Put him down." The blue haired male demanded in a shaky voice. He felt like he was gonna vomit. Whitty dropped the guy, then looked at his hands. There were burned things sticking to them.. Hopefully he wasn't looking at human flesh and blood.
"B.. B-Bee.." Whitty's hands began to tremble. His eyes went wide and the black, inky substance began to leak from his eyes again. He did it again. He.. he hurt people again.. "Oh.. fuck.." Whitty breathed out shakily, beginning to back away from the short male. Boyfriend didn't know how to react, but.. he could feel the remorse in Whitty's actions. He had a feeling Whitty wouldn't want him to see him like this. Not like.. a monster. "Whitty.. c.. c-calm down.." Boyfriend didn't let him scoot away too far, tugging on his jacket sleeve. "Don't! Stop!" Whitty exclaimed, causing Boyfriend to jump a bit. "You're not gonna hurt me. "
"You don't know that!"
"Yes I do." Boyfriend stared into Whitty's eyes with intent.
The bomb crouched down, allowing Boyfriend to give him a look of permission, then hug him. "It's.. It's okay, I'm sure you had a reason to." Boyfriend tried to comfort him, while Whitty began to mutter "I'm sorry" Over and over again. Boyfriend only shushed him, hugging the bomb shaped head in his arms. His fuse was short. He's glad he caught him before he exploded. "Let's get out of here, okay? Don't worry about these guys, I'll.. I'll handle it. For now, let's get you somewhere calmer." Boyfriend muttered softly as he pulled away. Whitty was surprised he could still look him in the eyes and not scowl. He nodded and stood straight. Boyfriend took his hand and led him out. He would simply call an ambulance for these guys. For now, he wouldn't allow Whitty to worry about any of it. They were gonna sit by a tree for the rest of the day.

*************************
One day it works out too well, then the next day I’m completely screwed (I still) Who should I live as today, Kim Namjoon or RM? 25, I still don’t know how to live well So, today as well, we just go -- Airplane, Pt. 2 BTS
**************************
Jungkook Jeon is basically your Carmen Sandiego.
You stare down at the photocopy of the state of California driver’s license in your hand, into the face of the brash little fucker you’ve been chasing across the globe for the better part of a year.
He looks barely old enough to drive.
Of course, this picture was taken years ago when he was a sophomore at Stanford. Back before he dropped out of school despite being in the top of his class. Back before he broke the law by taking six million dollars of someone else’s money, then broke his parents’ hearts by disappearing without a trace.
You should already have him in custody — and If he were like any of the other greedy assholes you usually chase, he would be. But instead, Jungkook Jeon has managed to deflect and dodge and avoid you at every turn for months.
It’s driving you fucking insane.
One time, you’d been so certain about cornering him in Argentina that you’d boarded a plane with a pair of thick-necked US Marshals and flown south. You’d had to head back to the States empty-handed and sunburnt and pissed.
The real kicker was when you’d gotten home and opened a one-line email – encrypted to hell and back – with a picture of your FBI Academy graduation headshot attached.
you’re so hot i almost want to get caught. almost.
That had hurt.
So you’d had to lick your wounds, bide your time and wait for a man who apparently didn’t make mistakes to make a mistake. And for a while, he didn’t.
Until he did.
**************************************
Agent Kim Namjoon is definitely not the pencil pusher you imagined him to be during your many phone calls and other interactions.
No, the man who meets you and your team at Incheon International Airport is what the kids these days call a snack. He is tall and broad and wears a pair of dark thick-rimmed glasses that should make him look like a giant nerd but somehow don’t.
Very, very cute.
“Welcome to Korea,” he says with an easy smile. You smile back, then clear your throat and remind yourself you’re not here to flirt with your contact with Korea’s National Intelligence Service.
Seriously.
Agent Kim’s English is immaculate – this you already knew since you’ve exchanged more than a few calls in recent weeks. He’s got his own team ready for briefing at his headquarters. After a quick drive, you’re all in one room going over the plan.
His guys have tracked Jeon to a high-end restaurant in Seoul where he’s been working for a few months. They already have a rough sketch of the area. You’re going to block off every exit, cover every angle, and make sure there’s no way he’s getting out of that restaurant without coming through one of you.
This should go off without a hitch – but then you remember Argentina and frown.
“He’s there. My guys are ready to go,” Agent Kim says, after taking a quick call on his cell phone.
It’s decided, then.
You load into black vans and take off for the west end of the city. Agent Kim drives and you have the chance to look out the window at the streets. It’s a beautiful place, you think. Agent Kim seems to read your mind.
“You should come back sometime,” he says. “When you’re not here on business.”
Sigh. You’re going to have to flirt with this man, aren’t you?
“I would like that. Maybe you could show me around some time,” you reply.
His eyes stay on the road – his hands locked at 10 and 2 – but you see the ghost of a smile pass over his lips. You smile to yourself and look back out the window.
Minutes later you’re parked outside an industrial-looking brick building. Gleaming glass-and-stone condos and perfectly manicured greenscaping confirm you are in a high-dollar neighborhood. It’s a Saturday night in a ritzy part of Seoul and you’re probably about to ruin someone’s date night.
Or maybe rescue it, depending on the date.
You stare out at the restaurant and imagine Jungkook Jeon inside, going about his life without realizing you’re here to throw a wrench into all his plans. You get a little thrill when you imagine the look on his face when he realizes the gig is up. Victory is so close you can taste it.
Agent Kim gets a call from his point man, everyone is in place.
Showtime.
******************************
“Is that consommé? It looks like consommé. What do you think, Agent Kim?”
Jungkook Jeon looks shaken for a moment when you step in front of the table where’s he’s just laid out a picture-perfect pair of starters. His guests, a nicely-dressed older couple, also look shaken as they glance nervously between you, Agent Kim, and their now permanently off-duty server.
He straightens to his full height.
The youthful roundness of the face you’ve stared at so long in that driver’s license picture is gone. You have no idea what this guy’s been eating for the past few years, but in place of that baby-faced kid is a man, tall and broad and muscular. Tattoos you can’t make out run across his hands, up his arms, and disappear into the white dress shirt he has rolled to the elbows. His hair is on the long side, pulled back, giving you an unobstructed view of what can only be described as a perfect face. Serious, literal perfection.
Good grief.
Somehow the little shit recovers from his shock in an instant. He smirks, despite his clear disadvantage.
“I gotta say, you look even better in person.”
Oh yeah? So do you.
You ignore his opening line.
“It’s time to come home, Mr. Jeon. Pay the piper and all that.”
He has the nerve to roll his eyes and your hand itches with the desire to punch him in his stupid fucking perfect face.
“Teamed up with some Korean suits, huh?” He gives Agent Kim the once-over and apparently finds him lacking.
“Mr. Jeon,” you feign a scandalized tone. “Just how do you think I was raised? It would be downright rude to barge into a sovereign country without an invitation. Besides, Agent Kim here has been an absolute pleasure.”
You could hear a pin drop inside this restaurant right now. Every knife and fork and glass has come to rest on the fine white linen on these tables. The guests are frozen in place, taking in the strange scene.
Dinner and a show tonight, guys.
Jungkook doesn’t move an inch. You’d half expected him to just walk up, accept his cuffs and get this show on the road. But no, apparently he’s in a talking mood.
“Tell me how you found me.”
You sigh. You’re not a pair of girlfriends catching up over coffee. You open your mouth to say just that, but Agent Kim speaks up.
“We had a source come through with some very specific information on you.”
“Oh, I think Agent Kim is being far too kind,” you counter. “What he means to say is that your Korean sucks. You see, Mr. Jeon, you may look like them,” you gesture at the restaurant full of guests, “but you sound like us. Let’s just say you stick out like a sore thumb here.”
The corners of his eyes crinkle in amusement at the jab.
“I hated Korean school, you know.”
“It shows.”
He laughs.
Agent Kim clears his throat as if to remind you both that you’re not alone.
“Well this isn’t a social call, and I’m sure all these fine people would love to get back to their meals. So why don’t we finish this chat on the way back to the United States, Mr. Jeon?” you say, getting back to the task at hand.
Agent Kim signals his guys and they swoop in to put him in cuffs. He doesn’t resist, just holds out his hands and shoots you his most flirtatious smile.
“I’m going to hold you to that, Agent.”
On your way out the door, you glance over at the consommé and hope it’s supposed to be served cold.
**********************************
“What is a man who stole six million dollars doing waiting tables at a restaurant?” you muse out loud.
Jungkook Jeon is in the backseat of Agent Kim’s black SUV, looking out the window.
“I had to have some kind of story, right? Besides, I kind of liked it.”
“You didn’t get to spend the money,” you say.
“Not really,” he admits. “It’s much easier to fantasize about blowing millions of dollars than it is to actually do it.”
“Tsk, tsk, Mr. Jeon. What a shame.”
He leans forward in the backseat, hands cuffed in front of him.
“You know what would really be a shame, Agent? If I don’t get the chance to fuck you before you lock me up.”
A muscle twitches in Agent Kim’s jaw.
“Watch your mouth,” he warns, glaring into the rearview mirror. You immediately decide you like him a little stern. It’s pretty hot.
“Mr. Jeon, you and your dick will be free to do whatever you’d both like in about twenty years. That’s how this whole grand larceny and evasion thing works,” you say, ignoring the sensation that spreads across the back of your neck at his crass words.
He whistles.
“I’m really going to waste my best-looking years in prison.”
No kidding.
“Oh, don’t be too disappointed,” you say sweetly. “I hear there are a few advantages to having such a pretty face behind bars.”
You hear the clink of his cuffs and look into your rearview just in time to see him give you the finger.
*********************************
The government can be so cheap sometimes.
You’d have loved to pull right up to the tarmac at Incheon International, walk right onto a chartered plane like the Feds do in the movies. But alas, private flights are definitely not in the budget.
Instead, you have to settle for regular seats on a Korean Air flight. You’d been in touch with the airline ahead of time and they’d offered you and your team privacy in the back rows of the plane – complete with a curtain separator. You really couldn’t blame them for not wanting passengers to be greeted by a handcuffed man and his gun-toting babysitters.
Smart move all around.
Seating arrangements are decided, you and Jungkook on one side of the aisle, your two Marshals on the other. They’re both smart men, highly-skilled and boring as hell. You’d already had to suffer through their small talk on the fourteen-hour long flight here, and you’d be damned if you had to do it again on the way back.
“Are you going to let me have a drink?” Jungkook asks, as soon as you’re settled into your seats.
“Of course,” you reply, scrolling through a few emails on your phone. “What’s your favorite kind of juice?”
He snorts.
“It’s gonna be a long flight unless you play nice,” he warns.
“Mr. Jeon,” you sigh. “Shut up.”
He shakes his handcuffs.
“You could at least take these off,” he grumbles. “Not like I can walk off of a moving plane.”
“Nope,” you reply, affecting your best bored tone. You grab a magazine out of the seatback and pretend to leaf through it.
“So you want me to sit here – no phone, no headphones, no nothing – for fourteen hours?”
“Better to practice that ‘bored out of your mind’ routine sooner rather than later. I’m sure it’s gonna come in handy.”
You don’t look his way, but you can feel the glare he’s fixed on you and you have to fight the urge to smile.
******************************
The flight attendant who rolls a giant drink cart into your quiet section of this plane looks like a doll. Porcelain skin, huge eyes and the whitest smile you have ever seen.
Jungkook straightens in his seat immediately. He’s been pouting for the last hour but now he sees this dazzling young woman and his game face is back on.
“Hello,” he says, flashing her a smile.
Then he stops — seems to remember his audience — and resumes the exchange in Korean. You stare at him as he makes eyes at the flight attendant, working her with the confidence of a man who is not wearing handcuffs right now.
She blushes deeply at something he says before turning back to her cart to pour a Jack and Coke.
“Are you serious, Jeon?”
He smiles.
“You don’t hate me, right? Like, obviously I’ve pissed you off, but you don’t hate me. Because only a person who hated me would stop me from having a drink on my way to federal prison.”
You open your mouth to protest, but instead decide that he’s right. He’s a thief – not a killer for pete’s sake.
A super-hot, ridiculously charming, complete asshole of a thief who is definitely not getting under your skin by flirting with the flight attendant right now.
The porcelain doll turns back and hands him his cocktail and Jungkook winks at her. This man just accepted his drink with his hands in fucking handcuffs and this woman is blushing at him like he just asked for her number in a nightclub.
“Are you done?” you hiss.
“With what?” he asks innocently, cuffs clinking as he lifts the drink to his mouth.
“Eye-fucking the flight attendant.”
He feigns shock. “Are you – are you…jealous?”
You scoff and turn your attention back to your magazine.
He leans close.
“Don’t be jealous,” he says, blowing whiskey-scented breath into your ear. “I wanted you first. I’m only flirting with her because you’re really mean to me.”
He leans back and takes another sip of his drink.
There is something about this mischievous boy-man with the chiseled body and the smart mouth. He certainly has a charm. You’re certain he’s been able to use that charm to get out of more than a few sticky situations over the years.
“I wasn’t kidding you know,” he says. “About wanting to fuck you.”
He shakes the ice in his glass to show off that he’s already drained it and gives you another one of those self-assured smiles that’s really starting to piss you off. You drop your gaze back to your magazine.
“I’m not going to fuck you,” you state simply, pretending to have a deep interest in some blurb about face masks.
“No? Are you sure about that?”
“You are mind-bogglingly arrogant for a man who is headed to prison for the next two decades,” you reply dryly.
“Probably headed to prison,” he corrects. “Innocent until proven guilty, due process and all that. Unless things have changed? I realize it’s been a while since I’ve been home.”
You snort.
“Okay fine, you’re right. I’m headed to prison for the next twenty years which is why it’s imperative that you fuck me now. Immediately. Anything else would be,” he gives a dramatic shake of his head, “Inhumane.”
This time you can’t help but laugh and one of the Marshals across the aisle gives you a disapproving look, like he’s been forced to chaperone a pair of giggling teenagers.
You clear your throat and look back down at your magazine, force the smile off your face.
“Argentina,” you say. “How did you get out of there before I got to you?”.
The flight attendant returns with another drink and another smile for him.
“You want something, I want something,” he says, taking a long sip. “Maybe we could work something out?”
“I’m not going to fuck you for information, Jeon. All of that will soon come out in the wash,” you sigh.
“Then fuck me for charity. For good will. Fuck me because it’s the least you can do since you’re blowing up my entire life right now.”
You roll your eyes.
“You blew up your life, you idiot. You’re the one who intercepted a wire transfer and stole six million bucks. You’ve already been fucked. You fucked yourself.”
He smiles wistfully for a moment.
“Yeah, you’ve got a point there.”
*******************************
You stop him at three drinks.
His eyes have taken on a soft quality and his entire energy is a bit more relaxed with some booze in his system. It’s hard, it’s really hard to ignore how hot this man is without even trying.
But when he tries? Then it’s damned near impossible.
You check your watch. You still have seven hours to go on this flight.
“Luck,” he says, suddenly.
“Excuse me?” you say, looking up from your magazine.
“You wanted to know how I got out of Argentina in time. I was gonna make up some fancy story about how I’d figured out you were on to me and beat the clock to get away but the truth is, I was just lucky. I’d already been there too long and I was getting restless. I was ready to go.”
Hmm. So the booze has made him talkative.
“Your landlord said we’d missed you by one day,” you counter.
“Yup,” he laughs, closing his eyes momentarily as if reliving the thrill of the chase. “I used to have a lot of luck, actually. Before I ran into you.”
“Sorry about that.”
“No you’re not.”
“Fair enough,” you say and the two of you share a laugh. You open a bag of pretzels and offer him one. He begrudgingly accepts.
“Why did you take the money?”
He chews thoughtfully for a moment.
“Because I wanted to know if I could. I didn’t think I was gonna pull it off, but again, it was my luck. Once I figured out how to do it, I just did.”
“How remarkably stupid,” you breathe, a smile on your face. He smiles, too.
“Yeah, well. I said I was lucky, not smart.”
“Oh, but you are smart, Mr. Jeon, and don’t think you’ve convinced me otherwise. Your transcript from Stanford tells a very interesting story. What did your parents say when you dropped out at the top of your class and went to work at a gas station?”
The sarcastic back-and-forth screeches to a halt. For the first time, you see darkness pass over his face.
“Don’t ask me about my parents,” he says curtly. “I’ll tell you whatever else you want to know, but that shit is none of your business.”
“I’m sorry,” you say, and this time you mean it.
He shifts to his side, away from you, and looks out the window.
You sit quiet, thinking for a minute – but after a while you both fall asleep.
********************************************
You wake to Jungkook nudging you.
“Get up,” he says urgently. “I have to piss.”
You groan, trying to clear the fog from your brain and glance at your watch. Still four more hours to go on this flight.
“Like now,” he says, bouncing one leg to ward off the sensation.
You get up, stretch out, and wait for him to stand but then realize he’s waiting for you to help him since it’s an awkward fit in the seats with his handcuffs. Instead of making a snarky comment, you just offer your hand and a slight smile.
Very unlike you.
“Thanks,” he says, straightening out, stretching his legs. One of the Marshals raises an eyebrow at you.
“He has to use the bathroom,” you say, stilling the man with a raised hand when he makes to stand. “It’s alright, I need to stretch, too. I’ll walk him down there.”
The Marshal looks skeptically from Jungkook to you and back.
“It’s fine, Agent,” you say, a little annoyed. “It’s not like he can go anywhere, right?”
“Right,” Jungkook says, still bouncing that leg.
The Marshal gives you a look that makes clear he doesn’t approve, but he’s not going to stop you.
You walk behind Jungkook as he makes his way past the curtain, down the aisle and towards the bathroom. It’s a half-empty flight, and you’re glad for it when you see people staring at his handcuffs. You don’t know what’s gotten into you, but you can’t help but feel a little embarrassed on his behalf when you hear them whispering in Korean. At least you don’t know what they’re saying.
The firm set of Jungkook’s mouth makes you think he wishes that were the case for him, too.
“Just uh, give me a minute,” he says, when you reach the bathroom.
It turns out to be a lot longer than a minute.
You’re half tempted to bang on the door and demand to know why he’s taking so long. Maybe the Marshal was right to be suspicious of Jungkook. Maybe he figured out a way off this plane through the toilet.
You’re bouncing your own leg impatiently when he finally reappears.
“What took you so long?” you ask, annoyed.
“You ever try to take your pants and underwear off while handcuffed?” he asks. “You know what — never mind, don’t answer that. You’ll start giving me ideas.”
Ah. He’s back, then.
Part of you is a little relieved to hear his smart-ass mouth again. You feel a hell of a lot less guilty around this version of him.
“Listen, I did a little recon and it’s a tight fit, but there’s definitely enough room for us to fuck,” he says, face comically serious. “And we’re running out of time for you to pull the trigger, so what’s it going to be?”
“Ugh. You’re foul,” you say, pulling a face.
“But you kind of like it,” he shoots back.
He’s right, though. You kind of do.
***********************
Clearly you’ve lost your mind.
Pheromones have short-circuited all the portions of your brain that control logic, reason, and risk. That’s the only plausible explanation for why you are slumped into your seat right now, legs pressed together tight, imagining fucking Jungkook Jeon in an airplane bathroom.
Sympathy and curiosity and more than a little horniness are making for a strange mix. You reason to yourself — as if you are actually entertaining this madness — that he’s not a convicted felon, just an accused one. There’s gotta be a loophole in the FBI handbook somewhere.
“You’re thinking about it, aren’t you?” Jungkook asks, leaning close — a smile playing over his lips.
“Shut up.”
“You are,” he whispers in a scandalized tone. “I mean with these on, I’m not going to be able to do my best work, obviously, but I’ve done more with less. Unless you want to take them off,” he says, rolling his wrists in the handcuffs.
“I already told you, I’m not taking those off,” you say sharply.
“Alright, alright. Keep it kinky. I can roll with that.”
”Shut up, Jeon.”
He gestures across his mouth like he’s zipping it shut and throwing away the key and you fight the urge to laugh.
“If I decided to fuck you, and I’m not saying I would,” you hiss, “I would have to stuff a sock into that smart mouth of yours just to not have to hear it.”
He laughs and his face looks so young and relaxed it takes your breath away a little.
“Make it your underwear and we have a deal,” he winks.
You pick up another magazine and get back to actively trying to ignore him and that annoying pulse between your legs.
*************************
Two hours left to Los Angeles.
You glance over at your guard dogs, who’ve both knocked out after a snack. One has a newspaper draped fully over his face, grandpa style.
You should have ordered a drink. You should have ordered six. That way, if you’re ever called to the carpet about the decision you’re about to make, you can blame it on alcohol-induced psychosis. Because the Marshals are asleep and you feel bad for Jungkook Jeon and he’s so hot you can barely think straight at this point. You take a deep breath and make a decision.
Fuck it.
You stand quietly, motioning to Jungkook with a finger over your lips. For a moment, his brows knit together in confusion but that look passes almost as quickly as it came. Then his entire face breaks out into a wide grin.
“Yeah?” he whispers.
“Shut up,” you whisper back, through gritted teeth.
You hold out your hand to help him to stand and when he grips it, he rubs his the pad of his thumb across your wrist. You try to ignore the sizzle of arousal he manages to drum up with that brief touch.
Quietly, you both walk past the curtain, past sleeping passengers and back to the clean but cramped bathroom where you are about to do the dumbest shit you have ever done.
You glance around at the passengers nearby and notice only one older man, eyes wide on the two of you. You shoot an excuse-me-sir-this-is-official-government-business look at him before following Jungkook into the tiny space.
You lock the door and turn to face him.
“Glad you finally came around,” he says, immediately backing you into the door. His mouth goes right for your neck and he pushes his entire body into yours in this tiny space. He is large and warm and he smells way better than he should after working a restaurant shift, being arrested, and then being jammed into a plane seat for hours.
His lips work up the column of your throat and his hands, still secured in front of him, push uselessly into the front of your lightweight wool dress. Shame, really, that you couldn’t take him out of these. You’d love to feel those hands right about now.
“I wasn’t kidding about keeping your mouth shut,” you manage to say, breathless at the feel of his mouth on your skin. “Don’t make me change my mind.”
The vibration of his laughter tickles the shell of your ear.
“I’ll be a good boy, I promise,” he says. “I just need to get my face under this dress.”
Your brain stutters for a moment, hung up on the mental image. He drops to his knees in front of you, lifts his hands to try and push up the front of the almost-too-tight garment but his handcuffs make it impossible. You graciously help him out, hiking the hem up your thighs. You’re about to work your underwear down, but he’s impatient, burying his face directly into the wet satin and inhaling deeply.
“Fuck, you smell amazing,” he groans, nosing the aching nub between your thighs. You’re glad he can’t see the way your mouth drops open when he licks out at the damp material, teasing you with the barest hint of friction.
“Help me out here,” he moans, and you do just that, sliding your panties down as best you can with the amount of space you’ve got.
At this angle, you can only get them down to your knees, but Jungkook doesn’t seem to care. He pushes his entire face into you, lips and teeth and tongue driving into you, working you with a fervor that makes your knees start to wobble. You grab a handful of his hair to steady yourself but it’s no use. Absently, you realize the tremors running up and down your body are rattling the door.
“Nice to know that mouth is good for more than just trash talk,” you tease on deep exhale. He laughs.
“Maybe some day you’ll get the chance to enjoy the full-service experience.”
“Probably not, Jeon,” you moan. “This is just a one-time favor, got it?”
All the blood in your brain has taken a dive into parts lower south and you marvel at how quickly your impending orgasm is coming on. But then, you’ve basically had about ten hours of foreplay up to this point, so maybe it’s not that surprising.
That damned door keeps rattling and you just know the little old man on the other side is probably staring it down. You’re not sure what it says about you that you think that’s kind of hilarious.
Your body jolts when Jungkook wraps his lips around your clit and sucks so hard you see stars. “You’re the one about to come on my face in an airplane bathroom,” he groans, licking obscenely between words. “So who’s doling out favors right now?”
Well, that does it.
The second he brings his lips and tongue back to your clit, you fall apart, gripping his hair so hard you’re certain it has to hurt. You pour all your energy into not screaming as your orgasm steamrolls you, and whatever energy you have left goes into trying to stay upright. Jungkook stays face-first in your heat, lapping up your release until the last tremors shake you and that goddamned door.
“Shit,” your voice is shaky, chest heaving when you finally make a sound.
“You are very, very fucking hot,” Jungkook says, breathless from where he sits on the floor. “Way too hot to be a Fed.”
You laugh.
“Well you are definitely too hot to be a criminal, but here we are, huh?”
Your eyes slide down to his glinting handcuffs, but they aren’t what’s catching your attention. Instead, your gaze heads right to the giant bulge straining against the front of his jeans. Turnabout is fair play, and you’re suddenly very eager to return the favor.
You help him stand and immediately seal your mouth to his, tasting yourself on his lips. Your fingers fumble past his restraints, underneath to where you can feel the button of his jeans and you undo it as fast as you can. He stops kissing you long enough to groan into your mouth when your hands slip into his boxers and your fingers wrap around his cock. He is hot and thick and hard in your hand. You squeeze around him, enjoying the way his hips jerk in response.
“Don’t tease,” he whines. “I’m gonna have to fantasize about this blowjob for the next twenty years.”
“I’d better make it memorable then,” you say, sinking down to your knees in the cramped space. You shove his jeans off his hips and look up at him as you gently push his boxers down and over his straining cock. His body is rock hard, lean muscle and defined lines running from his shapely legs up to his cuffed wrists and underneath that white shirt you’d love to peel off but can’t.
His head falls back the second your lips touch his swollen head. You tease it for a moment with a few quick licks, but decide this is really not the time to be dragging this out. The strangled “fuck” he whispers when you take him down fully is the sweetest and dirtiest thing you’ve heard in a while.
You manage to catch his gaze for a moment as you maintain a steady rhythm on his cock with your hands. His eyes are glassy with drinks and arousal, and you nearly have to slip a hand between your legs when his tongue slips out of his mouth to wet his lips.
He lifts and drops his handcuffs a couple of times before growling his frustration at not being able to put his fingers in your hair. You feel a faint throb of sympathy for him for a moment before reminding yourself that you literally have your mouth around his cock so frankly, things could be a lot worse for him than they are right now.
“You gotta stop,” he says, after a few minutes of the slow, wet torture. You release him with a soft pop and a confused expression.
“It’s your last blowjob for twenty years, Jeon. You want me to stop?”
“No, no,” he says quickly. “I have to fuck you. Please let me fuck you. It’s all I can think about,” he whines.
“You can’t,” you say firmly. “No condoms.”
He blows out a heavy breath like he’s thinking for a moment and there you are, on your knees in this tiny bathroom, confused as to what your next step should be.
“Look around,” he says suddenly.
“What?”
“Look – people fuck in airplane bathrooms all the time, right? It’s a thing. Maybe someone out there pulled some hero shit and is looking out for the next person.”
“This bathroom,” you say skeptically, “is the size of a goddamned shoebox, Jeon. You think we’re going to magically scrounge up a condom?”
“Just look,” he implores through gritted teeth.
“Fine,” you huff, leaning over to pop the cabinet under the sink open. You put one searching hand inside and pull out three sanitary pads that look like they were packaged in the 1970s.
He groans, frustrated.
“Hang on,” you say, jamming your hand back inside. Your fingertips brush up against something smooth and you fish it out, eyes wide with utter disbelief.
“Oh, you’ve gotta be fucking kidding me,” you say, more to yourself than to him.
You hold the condom packet up for him to inspect.
“Holy shit,” he breathes, cock jerking at the sight of it, like it knows he’s just hit the jackpot.
He laughs so hard for a moment you fear this entire encounter has gone entirely off track.
“My luck is back,” he declares triumphantly, finally. “Now, please hurry up and get on my dick.”
You’re shaking your head in disbelief the entire time you’re ripping the packet open, rolling it down Jungkook’s impossibly still-hard cock. He’s breathing hard, body tense with anticipation when you slide your heels off to take your underwear off completely.
“The heels,” he groans, watching as you slip your panties over your ankles. “Can you — you know…keep ‘em on?”
“Ugh, you are such a pervert,” you scold, slipping your feet back into the shoes and leaning back to line him up with your entrance. He surges forward and you moan at the stretch as he fills you entirely in one thrust.
“Fuck,” he murmurs, dropping his head into the crook of your neck, already rolling his hips frantically against you. “Shit, that’s incredible.”
And truthfully, it is. The ledge of the sink is biting into your ass with every thrust and you’re having to do most of the work given his handcuff situation but you really don’t even care because he still feels amazing like this.
He mouths uselessly at the wool covering your breasts because there’s no way to get to them. You nearly admonish him because he’ll leave crude wet spots on the fine material, but you decide against it.
“Oh, I bet you have amazing tits,” he groans, hips maintaining a steady rhythm. “Giving me something to look forward to for next time.”
“There won’t be a next time, Jeon. And there won’t be a this time if you don’t hurry up already,” you shoot back.
He laughs, a little breathless from exertion. “I’m close, I promise. Fuck, you feel so good.”
You squeeze tighter around him, push harder back against him, angle your hips a bit more to ensure he’s going to the hilt with every thrust. The guttural sound he makes in response sends a shiver up your back.
“I’m gonna come,” he gasps after a moment, mouth covering yours as his hips begin to stutter at the first ebbs of his release. Your ass is numb from the sink ledge at this point, legs tired from supporting your weight and his.
“So come then,” you tease, biting gently on the sensitive skin at his pulse point. He groans from deep inside his chest as he lets go – hips jerking as he pumps himself through it.
“Shit,” he groans, leaning on you with his full weight.
“You are crushing me Jeon,” you complain, pushing at his chest with both hands. He chuckles. “Yeah, sorry about that. Balance is a little off at the moment.”
You open your mouth to shoot another sarcastic comment his way, but there is something about the way he is looking at you right now that stops you short.
You clear your throat, uncomfortable with the tiny glimpse into whatever that was.
“Well, as much as I’d love to ruminate on how good this was,” you say, shifting your dress back down and making a beeline for your underwear, “We’ve been in here an insane amount of time already. There’s probably a line outside the door.”
“Yeah,” he agrees, a little too quiet for your liking.
So you put yourself back together and help put him back together, too.
And strangely, when you open the door to leave there is no line. But that little old man is still watching, a look of astonishment on his face as you both walk past.
***********************************
“Listen, are you sitting down right now?”
You frown at the phone display in your office because any conversation that starts with an opening line like that is headed south.
“Uh…yeah. Why?”
“Hang on, I’m coming to your office.”
Seconds later, Agent Novak bursts through the door.
“So you haven’t seen it,” he says, rushing up to your desk.
“Seen what, Novak? Spit it out,” you say, frustrated already.
“Check your email,” he says, arms crossed over his chest. He looks fit to burst with some kind of excitement and your chest already feels a little tight at whatever it is he’s dying to show you.
You click into your email to find an urgent bulletin that you’d missed because you were working on a stack of papers on your desk, not your computer. The subject line makes your heart hammer.
URGENT MEMO: Fugitive Search, Jungkook Jeon
ATTACHED VIDEO FILE
“The guy just walked out of a federal courthouse like he was on an afternoon stroll. Had on a suit and everything,” Novak says, a note of awe in his voice. “Check out the video.”
Your mouth is already hanging open before you even click on the attached CCTV footage. A camera inside the courthouse shows Jungkook Jeon walk out of a bathroom in the front lobby, dressed like an attorney, not a defendant. His long hair is cut into a more professional style, his suit covers his tattoos and he looks entirely in place.
Novak is right – he walks so casually past the guards and other visitors that no one even thinks to stop him.
“Word is, court was on a lunch break and it looks like he had everything ready to go. Walked into a waiting Uber and vanished like smoke.”
You haven’t said a word since Novak walked in with this bombshell.
You just watch the CCTV footage over and over again in a loop, willing your brain to accept what your eyes can see clear as day.
This motherfucker.
Guess his luck really is back.

Favorite Place, Chapter 3 (Crygi) - Lily Bee
AO3 LINK
Chapter Summary: Coffee and headache pills can cure any heartbreak, right?
A/N: i’m not even sure what to put in these notes anymore ahh but thank you for the love on this story its so fun to write! this chapter is mostly just a filler i promise we will get back to the actual book store part of this book store au soon !! in the meantime check out my tumblr & thank you so much jazz for editing as always ily
Gigi woke up the next morning with a throbbing headache.
Memories of the following night came flooding in: seeing her boyfriend with that other woman, running out, driving, the book store, Crystal. Fuck, Crystal. She was in Crystal’s apartment, on her couch. Her head began to ache more. She pushed herself up resting on her arms as she glanced around the room. No sight of Crystal.
Gigi fumbled around the couch trying to find her phone. She hadn’t looked at it since before she got to her boyfriend’s house, turning it off immediately after running off. There were thousands of missed messages from her friends.
“Where are you?!?!!” she read from Jan.
From Jackie: “We’re worried about you!!”
Heidi followed suit, sending a brief “^^” when Gigi didn’t respond.
They were all worried. It was unlike Gigi to not be on her phone, messaging them every detail of her life. Her head started to ache more just looking at the bright phone screen. She typed a bullshit response saying she would explain more later. Right now all she needed was some Tylenol and a coffee.
Gigi forced herself off the couch and towards the kitchen. Crystal’s kitchen was a mess—well, at least in Gigi’s standards. The counter top was covered in books, stationary supplies, and an assortment of papers filled with doodles and mindless writing. The fridge was dotted in magnets from places she had traveled and magnetic letters spelled out to say her name in the bright font. The cabinets had notes from what she assumed to be her friends spilled across them.
Luckily for Gigi, there was a coffee machine too. Gigi sludged over to the counter and peered at a note posted on the coffee machine.
Gigi,
I’m sorry to have run out, I’ll be back shortly. Please make yourself at home.
Crystal <3
Crystal seemed to have a lot of trust leaving Gigi alone in her apartment. But, there was coffee here for her so what was the worst she could do?
She had just started brewing herself a pot when the door swung open, letting air into the apartment.
“Good morning!” Crystal beamed. She bounced into the kitchen holding a small bag. She placed it on the kitchen counter and revealed two blueberry scones.
“I was nervous you would be hungry and I didn’t have much food here,” Crystal spoke as she took a seat.
“Thank you,” Gigi responded. “Do you happen to have any headache pills by chance?”
“Yes!” She got up and rushed around the corner, disappearing farther into the apartment. She reappeared with pills in hand, grabbing a glass from the cabinet and filling it up in the sink.
“Here,” she said, extending the items to Gigi.
Gigi took the glass and swallowed the pills gratefully. She didn’t really know what to even say to Crystal now—considering she’d only met her yesterday, cried in her bookstore, blabbed about her entire life, then slept in her house. Theoretically, that would be a good place to start. Instead, she asked something simpler: “So, do you work today?”
“I don’t, actually. I work most days, but I’m able to make my own schedule, and decided that I needed a day off.”
Gigi hoped that she didn’t take off just because of her. She would hate to be the reason Crystal wasn’t getting hours. “I feel like it would be fun to work at a bookstore,” Gigi confessed.
“It’s fun most of the time. I’ve worked at a bookstore most of my life and I’ve met some amazing people, but it has its disadvantages too.”
“Like what?” Gigi questioned.
“Well, I come home, exhausted and drained from a day of hearing customers tell me why independent bookstores are going extinct, how they’re just going to go home and order that book I couldn’t find for them off Amazon, and that no one reads books anymore anyway,” Crystal complained.
“Oh, I didn’t realize,” Gigi uttered. “That must get annoying to hear all the time.”
“It is, but I love my job. I just get to read all the time and express my love for literature to anyone willing to listen. I also drink a lot of coffee.” Crystal smiled. “I can’t help it! The whole place smells like warm chocolate coffee goodness and I get 50% off in the cafe! I rub the spines of books like I’m in a movie and not on the clock and I read the backs of books when I should be shelving.”
Gigi listened to her every word, admiring the way she was so passionate about her job. She spoke with so much confidence and joy. Gigi only wished this was the way she came across to others.
“Okay, now that’s why it sounds like fun. I need to read more,” she admitted.
“You should! I can always recommend you books,” Crystal grinned.
“Thank you,” Gigi replied.
She took a seat at the counter next to Crystal as she began to drink her coffee and eat her scone. The pair started exchanging words, neither of them bringing up the events of the previous night. They just spoke as if they had been close friends for ages. Gigi talked about her friends and filled Crystal in on her own job.
Gigi worked as a fashion illustrator, she told Crystal. She worked with designers to create conceptual sketches and illustrations of their fashion products, including clothing, shoes and accessories. In addition, she produced advertising copy and images for promotional material for print. She always wanted to work in fashion and was fortunate enough to get a job that she loved, and that paid well, too.
“It’s insane,” Gigi explained about her job. “I work with some of the most amazing designers in New York, yet some of their designs are hideous!” She laughed at herself. “I swear I could do better than half of them.”
“I bet you could.” Crystal beamed. “Do you have designs? I would love to see them!”
“I do! Next time I’ll definitely have to show you.” Gigi blushed.
Next time, Crystal thought. There was going to be a next time; she was going to get to see Gigi again.
Crystal gladly listened to Gigi go on about her life. It was nice to see her so happy compared to yesterday. The pair managed to lose all track of time, their conversation lasting into the early afternoon. They sipped their coffee, and eventually raided Crystal’s pantry for more snacks.
“As much as I’m enjoying this, I really need to get my stuff from his house,” Gigi conceded. She was not in the mood to see him. She wished to never have to see him again, if she were being honest. She just hoped she could get in and get out easily.
“We could teepee his house,” Crystal suggested with a devilish smile. Gigi couldn’t help but laugh. It wasn’t such a bad idea.
“I couldn’t,” she managed to get out between laughs. “Lovely suggestion, though.”
“Of course,” Crystal beamed. “I’ll let you go, I got to finish my book anyway.”
“We should hang out again sometime.” Gigi admitted. “I’ve been happier today than I have been in a while.”
Crystal could only imagine how mentally drained Gigi must have been from her relationship.
“Yes, we definitely should!” Crystal affirmed. Neither of them moved from their spot in the kitchen, just sat in comfortable silence.
After a few minutes, Gigi finally stated, “Okay, I’m going.” She stood up and headed towards the front door. With a hand on the knob, she turned around to face Crystal and said, “Thank you for everything again… I’m not quite sure what I would have done without this.”
“Anytime! Don’t hesitate to reach if anything is wrong when you get there,” Crystal said. “Here, give me your phone. I’ll give you my number.” She extended her arm.
Gigi placed her phone in Crystal’s hand. “The password is 1111,” she admitted.
“Wow, how secure,” Crystal laughed. She went to the contacts app and put in her name in Gigi’s phone with about seven hearts after.
“Here,” she said, throwing the phone back. Gigi let out a little yelp as she tried to catch it mid-air.
“Thank you,” she breathed. With a small smile, she added, “You’ll definitely be hearing from me."

Chapter 1 Chapter 2
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 3
A few days have passed and everyone has slowly calmed down, Bakugou, Denki, Kirishima and I have been talking of a morning and I say goodbye to them at the end of the day so we’re friends? I guessed we were friends. Sitting in class just talking and things, Dad comes in and begins to talk about the sports festival, the height of the UA year for the students. I was so excited, I loved using my power but also hated it, it was complicated and I had watched it every year, I may not want to be a hero but I wanted to participate. Everyone was talking about it during class and I honestly was getting so pumped for it. I mean it was a sports festival.
“You won’t be participating,” Dad said as I was talking to him at the end of class, I had started to say how I could get noticed and maybe more into the whole hero thing, I knew others could hear us and I was making motions with my hands and things but when he said those four words my arms felt as I stood in silence for a few seconds as he just looked down at me.
“Excuse me,” I said slowly my voice lower than before as I looked to him, he wasn’t going to let me. I have always wanted to participate in “I love the sports festival, I watch it every year and the time I can go in it, I’m not allowed” I ask shaking my head and breathing out my anger, I had forgotten anyone was there as I tried to keep quiet but it was a small room.
“Your father and I had a chat, we decided it was best if you didn’t” he shrugged as if it was nothing, a simple thing, though I could see the sorry in his eyes, he had just gone on about how important it is and then dropped this I shook my head turning on my heel. “Y/N come back, we can talk about this” I didn’t respond.
I loved the festival and now I couldn’t even participate, everyone else got too. I didn’t expect to go far maybe the first round but the thought of being in the stadium was like a dream and now it’s gone. Four words and my hopes had vanished. I walked down the hallway and then down the stairs, quickly I needed air, I needed something. I knew I had to go home with them but even if I had a few minutes to myself to calm down, I needed it.
“They don’t trust us, no trust, fearful, scared, too strong, not in control” they came at me all at once and I put my hands over my ears trying to stop them, quieten them even just a little as I stormed to the training area that I was allowed into, there were perks to being a teacher's kid. The voices continued as grit my teeth, just stop. They didn’t think that. Walking inside I sighed “No trust, evil, villain, scared the man, he saw”
“Shut up” I screamed throwing my hands out as a burst of energy came from me in the form of black veins running over my skin, they had reason to not trust me. I sighed leaning my head back to try and calm down, I couldn’t activate my full quirk my shirt would be ruined so I held everything as I tried to calm down, the power surging through my system as I tried to be calm. Laughter was heard circling my ears and I shook my head “I said shut up” why was it that they could turn malice within a few seconds. My nails dug into my head as I held my ears and I slowly crouched down.
“Y/N” I turned seeing Bakugou staring at me as I still, the black fell back into my skin and could no longer be seen. “I thought you would be here” he smiled lightly and the voices stopped for a few seconds, they never stopped. “I thought id check on you, Aizawa is finding Mic then coming to get you I think, I heard him mumbling to himself” I rolled my eyes a few whispers were heard once more as I slowly stood up and nodded.
“I’m fine, you can go now,” I said and turned back around sighing out as I looked down to the ground as if it was the most entertaining thing I had ever seen, I didn’t want him here, or maybe I did? I didn’t know what I wanted at this point.
“Hey, Idiot I’m trying to be helpful” there's the Bakugou I knew and befriended, the hot-headed loudmouth, I laughed lightly “Oh so now you’re laughing at me” I turned and saw flushed cheeks and an angry stance, his fingers outstretched and a few popping noises being heard.
Shaking my head I smiled, “No, you just made me feel a bit better” his stance faltered as his shoulders sunk “I really wanted to compete in the festival, I’ve watched it since I was a kid and now that I have a chance, I’m not allowed” even I could hear the sadness in my voice, my eyes downcast and I swallowed.
“State your cause” was what I was told, head lifting I tilt in confusion a raised eyebrow accompanying it as I just stared at him, what was he going on about? “Storm in there and say what you want. You won’t get anywhere if no one hears you” of course he would suggest something like that, he walked up to me handing me a small piece of paper “It’s my number, message me” a smile then turned and left the building like it was nothing.
Now I was flushing as I bit my lip, “State my cause huh” I whispered and narrowed my eyes and biting my lip. Sometimes he was bright if he wanted to be. Storming from the building I continued up the stairs and through the students as I made my way to the office, I knew the looks I was getting as I stomped my way down the halls. Slamming the door open I walked right up to my parents my eyes wide and chest puffed, I had to state my cause. “I demand I be able to participate in the sports festival” all went silent as I looked to my parents and then around as I swallowed, ok maybe this was a bad idea. Dad went to talk saying my name and I shook my head, I had to state my cause “It is my right as a UA student to be able to participate in the festival, I should get the same chances as everyone else. It is not fair that I will be disadvantaged because you do not think I should do it” I looked between the two of them and saw a smile rise on Pa’s face. Why was he smiling?
Pa had that smile and Dad sighed out “We were just talking it out, you can do it, you would know that if you let me finish” I paused my hands now in the air as I looked back to him and Pa my face flushing, I just yelled at them for nothing.
“Oh” I nodded and then bowed “I thank you for the consideration” I nodded and swallowed “I will be waiting to go home in the lounge” I nodded again not having really stopped and turned around seeing the other teachers with smiles on their faces.
Immediately flopping down onto the lounge I pulled the note from my clenched hand, taking out my phone and placing the numbers in, Bakugou’s number, I had Bakugou's number. Sending a quick message saying it was Y/N, I then proceeded to say that Dad and Pa had already decided I could do it but I made a fool of myself by not letting them speak. Moving to be laying down on the lounge I began to think about how this could go, I was messaging Bakugou like the boy in my class, my friend.
“I’m going to annihilate you” was the only text I got back and I couldn’t help the small smile stretch it’s way onto my face, that’s just like him.
“As if” I replied and from there we had a texting battle for who would win, strategies and comebacks being thrown at each other. It was whoever could type the fastest, Capitals being his favourite use of action when messaging. Not so long later and I was heading home, eating, chatting about their days and then sitting in my room on my hammock, my chains hanging over the sides.
A few more messages shared between Bakugou and I and then a “Goodnight Loser” signifying the end of the conversation. We had been speaking for a few hours and moved onto more interesting things, just learning about each other as we messaged.
I smiled rolling around in bed as I re-read the messages as I then heard a small voice “A crush” was what was whispered and I stopped my finger stopping scrolling and the smile fell from my face “Cute, a crush, like him, message, nice, crush, cute” I shook my head sitting up quickly.
“What no we are just friends” I called out sitting up and then looking around the room as I heard laughter. Damned voices. Throwing myself back onto the pillow I swung and sighed. “We’re just friends”
-
This was it, the day of the competition, the day I would compete in the sports festival. Dressed in our school uniforms the only thing difference being our shoes, it was annoying that we couldn’t wear our hero gear but it was too be fair to the other classes. I had gotten my ‘gear’ checked off just so I wouldn’t rip my shirt when using my quirk. Everyone had been training hard, I had been trying to harness my power and trying to stay on top of being in control of everything around me. It was difficult but rewarding nonetheless. I had spoken to my parents knowing they would be commentating the festival and to be honest. I wanted to hear the criticism. This was my chance, my chance to show everyone I could be a hero. To show all the agencies I deserved to be here. People didn’t know my biological parents yet, except Bakugou and no one knew my real parents except 1-A. They knew my quirk but I also knew theirs so this would be hard and easy at the same time. I was so excited about the festival, I was practically vibrating. Stalls open and people walking through was so much fun, I had heard some of the things people were saying, everyone was excited for 1-A after the USJ. We were all in the waiting room talking and sitting, getting ready.
“Everyone get your game faces on, we’re entering the arena soon” Iida’s voice came booming through the room, loud and proud. He was like a father or a leader to the class, always giving directions and whatnot. Though I have to admit I did jump a little at his voice.
“Midoriya” Todorokis’ voice was low and baritone, as he walked to the green-headed male, hand in his pocket and eyes narrowed. Midoriya responding and asking him to continue. This would be interesting. “From an objective standpoint, I think it’s very clear that I'm stronger than you” really hitting him where it hurts, it seemed. Todoroki was a man of few words, though it seemed he really did have a plan, wanting to prove something. Midoriya nodded “However, you’ve got All Might in your corner helping you out. I’m not here to pry about what’s going on between you two but, know that I will beat you” Midoriya looked as though he was about to faint, to fall over and die, eyes wide and mouth open. I felt bad but this wasn’t my fight.
“What’s with all these declarations of war lately” Kaminari smiled from the table that sat his friends. I had to admit everyone seemed on edge, but this was the first festival and after the USJ everyone would be looking at us in particular.
“Yeah what's the big deal, why are you picking a fight all of a sudden” Kirishima, light and bubbly, always wanting to keep the peace between everyone? I admired him for that. “And right before we get started” Kirishima was pushed away, lightly, by Todoroki.
“I don’t care to be each other’s friends” Todoroki was really on a mission today, I hoped I didn’t have to verse him, that would be a pain and a lot to deal with. He began to walk away “Don’t forget this isn’t a team effort” he wasn’t wrong but in the hero field, there was going to be people you had to pair with.
“Wait a sec Todoroki” Midoriya started, he was going to respond to his little huff. I didn’t expect this but then again, Midoriya had a lot to prove to everyone else. “I don’t know what’s going through your head, or why you think you need to tell me why you’ll beat me and yeah, of course, you’re better than me” this was sad, his face was low and his spirits. Everyone sat in silence just looking on. “You probably have more potential than anyone in the hero course” a little sting to my ego but that was fine, I was the one that saved everyone need I remind. “That’s why you got in so easily” Kirishima tried to lessen his blows not only at himself but also the other students. I for one wasn’t impressed by Midoriyas’ comments. “No he’s right you guys, the other courses are coming at us with everything they’ve got, we’re all going to have to fight to stand out and I’ll be aiming for the top too” he looked so serious I almost went to laugh but held back.
Waiting for when we were allowed to leave our little tunnels was quite funny, listening to Pa shout over the intercom was a delight in itself, he always got so invested in these types of things. The crowd was loud, the cameras ready. Then we were allowed out while music played. I walked out with my head high and shoulders back. This was my time to shine. Fireworks took to the sky and I walked with my class in silence. Pa went on about the attack and how we should be watched but I knew the truth. I knew how he acted when he found out Dad and I were in the firing line. All the classes came out heads high and ready.
“Now the introductory speech” Midnight called out her whip ready and waving around, her costume didn’t faze me, she had worn that since I was little. A few of my fellow students commenting about telling her what she was wearing with flushed cheeks and narrowed gazes. “Silence everyone and for the student pledge we have Katsuki Bakugou” this wasn’t going to end well.
With the confidence of a god he walked up hands in his pockets and face blank, he walked up the stairs and I noticed how bad his posture was. This was a disgrace to the hero course not to mention the other courses already didn’t like us. “I just wanna say, I gonna win” voice monotone and unchanging.
“Why would you say something so disrespectful” Iida was on him immediately, arm moving in an angered linear way that puts a smile on my face. He was confident, nothing wrong with that. “You’re representing us all” he did have a point with that comment.
“Not my fault the rest of you are just stepping stone to my victory” a roll of my eyes and a sigh I could hear people yelling around me and looked up to the commentating booth seeing Dad and Pa. I smiled and waved lightly, they waved back.
Bakugou walked past us all with ease “Without further ado, it's time for us to get started, this is where you’re really going to feel the pain. The first game of the festival” a strange hologram-like thing appeared, pieces spinning like at a casino. “What could it be, Tada” it was an obstacle course. Easy, I could do this. Midnight explained what was to happen and I felt my heart sped up. “As long as you don’t leave the course you are free to do as your heart desires” she should not be saying that to people like Bakugou or Todoroki. “Take your place contestants”
We were all placed into a hallway of sorts, ready to start, I had changed into a jumper from the school, I never liked the feeling of jackets. The back was cut out as well as the chest, I had full movement and I was still in uniform. Perks to having teachers as parents. There were three lights, above us. Slowly turning off, I bent down ready to run. I could do this. My quirk could be used for heroism, my biological parents do not define me. My parents were heroes sworn to protect. I would be one of them, I could be a hero.
“Begin” at the sound of her voice I sprinted, I had stamina, having an ouija board come out of my chest every time I wished it too had made me have a lot of stamina and pain tolerance. I was sprinting, I was fast, always had been.
Everyone was running, cheers and yelling behind me, I was keeping pace with Todoroki and a few others, he was my problem right now. We all wanting this, we all wanted to win. I could hear Pa but I didn't have a car. It was squishy and this was the first obstacle.
I felt the cold and jumped up seeing ice fall beneath me. “To your right” I heard the whisper and turned landing on a flat part and continued to run “People are locked down not all though. He is fast, run” I was running.
“Apologies” I heard him call out though he never looked over his shoulder, he was strong and I knew had already made an impact on the crowd. I ran next to him his eyes wide and un-pleased.
“Did you really think some ice could stop me” I smiled.

Ghosts Are Just as Real as You and Me - Part 6
Oof, this chapter’s a bit shorter than usual. I knew how I wanted to end it, but I couldn’t fill in enough to get it any longer than it is. If you hate me from last chapter, you’re still going to hate me. I haven’t fixed anything for you and the feels are still real. If you haven’t realized by now, this fic is being used to explore some of the more rare friendships between the queens. You’ll get queens interacting that you don’t see a lot of in different scenes, so hopefully I do them justice. Anyway, anyway - hope you enjoy this (late) chapter! Sorry for any spelling/grammatical errors, I’m sick with the feels.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5
Catherine of Aragon rarely broke down. She didn’t consider herself to be the strongest of the group nor the weakest, but she was good at staying composed. She had to, for the sake of the others. So even after her short breakdown outside of Anna’s room, she calmed herself and made a decision. Even if the other queens didn’t notice her, didn’t think of her, she would be there for them. She would hold everything together as best she could.
The other queens never stopped seeing her as the imposing figurehead who still held resentment towards Anne and Henry. Perhaps that was just her way of coping. Aragon never truly held any ill will towards Anne or Henry in the past. Now that Henry was threatening them however… It was all too much. Aragon had stood against him for twenty-four years, she could do it again. Although this time she had five other women to worry about, not just herself and her daughter. It would be hard but Aragon was willing to do it. To be the rock they all needed. “Catherine?” a voice broke her out of her thoughts.
Fading back into reality, Aragon watched Cathy standing in front of her door with a hand up. The woman seemed ready to bolt at any minute with her shifting stance. “Cathy! Come in,” Aragon urged.
Rocking on her feet, Cathy slowly made her way into the room, closing the door behind her. “Can I talk to you about something?”
“You can always talk to me,” Aragon tried to keep her voice neutral. She hoped Cathy would tell her about what was causing her to be so suspicious of everyone - especially Jane. There had been an unspoken tension between the two of them all day and it was driving Aragon crazy.
Tapping her foot, Cathy stared at the floor for a minute. Aragon waited patiently, waiting for Cathy to find the courage to speak up. “Everyone is lying.”
“What?” Aragon couldn’t help the crease in her forehead. “Why would we be lying?”
“Well, not you - I don’t think,” Cathy shot her godmother a tired, suspicious glare. “But… okay -” her voice picked up as she started ranting, “Kit hasn’t been telling us the full truth. She’s hiding how hurt she is and it’s not helping her psych. And Anna has been missing almost all the time, so clearly she’s up to something.” Aragon swallowed, remembering her confrontation with the German woman earlier that day. “Jane’s been much more skittish lately, and I just know she’s lying about something.” Part of Aragon wanted to push, but she told herself to sit still and listen. “And Anne… there’s something big going on with Anne and I’m afraid.”
Putting a hand on Cathy’s in order to calm her down, Aragon offered a smile. “You don’t have to be afraid of Anne. Unless she’s doing something stupid like usual. But Anne’s not going to hurt herself while she knows Kit’s in danger.”
“What if she has to?”
The question didn’t make any sense to Aragon. “Why would Anne have to hurt herself?”
“No,” Cathy corrected, “What if Anne had to do something bad that could hurt people. What if she didn’t have a choice?”
The hidden distress behind Cathy’s eyes was starting to worry Aragon. “Cathy, is there something you need to tell me?” She tried not to push too hard, but there was this pull in her chest telling her that she had to know what Cathy was talking about.
“I’m scared for Anne. Or scared of her. I don’t know.” Cathy’s hands were shaking, even though she tried to cover it with her sleeves.
Putting a hand on her goddaughter’s shoulder, Aragon strained a smile. “You don’t have to be scared of Anne of all people, she’s harmless.”
Standing up, Cathy started pacing around Aragon’s room. “What if she’s not? I - I didn’t mean to go looking but I was the only one here and -” Her voice cut off and she turned to Aragon. “You have to help me figure this out.”
“First you have to tell me what it is Cathy. I’m here to help you but,” Aragon faltered with her words, “I can’t help you unless you tell me what’s going on.”
Cathy stopped pacing. “I found Anne’s journal. At first I thought it wasn’t anything important but there were things in there. Saying she had to help him even though she didn’t want to. That she was afraid he was watching Kit. Catherine, I think you know who Anne’s talking about.”
The Spanish princess watched Cathy in disbelief. “Are you sure that’s what you read?”
“I’m not 100% sure, Anne got home before I could confirm anything, but with the way she’s been acting, it makes sense. Please Catherine, I need your help with this.”
Despite Cathy spilling her guts, Aragon couldn’t help but feel that she was holding something back. But she had promised she wouldn’t push her fellow queens, so she didn’t. “Of course I’ll help you Cathy, but you have to know what you’re doing. Are you going to confront Anne -”
“I tried,” Cathy cut in. “She’s completely shut me out. And now she’s out with Kit and I’m afraid something’s going to go wrong.”
“Hey,” Aragon attempted to calm her goddaughter down. “They’re on a walk together, something they’ve done hundreds of times. Kit and Anne aren’t in any danger.”
Nodding her head, Cathy slumped down against Aragon. “You’re right. But something’s going to go wrong sooner or later and Henry’s going to capitalize on it. We’re at a disadvantage and it’s so obvious! And we’re sitting around like fish in a barrel -”
“Calm down Cathy,” Aragon pulled the woman into a hug. She ran a hand through her hair. “If you stress yourself out, it’s only going to get worse. When was the last time you slept?”
“I dunno,” she whispered into her shoulder.
“Look, why don’t you get some sleep and we’ll talk about this later, okay?” Aragon laid her goddaughter down on her bed. She expected Cathy to complain, but instead the woman landed the pillow and passed out immediately. She must have been dealing with a lot of anxieties lately. Continuing to sit on her bed, Aragon stayed quiet and watched Cathy sleep. She wanted to help so badly, but there was a line that shouldn’t be crossed into the others’ privacy. Aragon would help Cathy, but only in order to keep her in check. That way she wouldn’t inadvertently tear the queens apart.
That way none of them would tear the queens apart.
Jane and Anna rarely talked. They weren’t unfriendly, they just rarely spent time alone together. Usually they would spend time together when Kit was around, but she was always the bridge between the two queens. That was something the both of them realized when they were alone in the kitchen together. “Hi,” Jane offered a smile and continued to copy a recipe off her phone and into a cookbook.
Anna stood in front of the food cabinets, searching for an energy bar or something similar. Doing everything she could to avoid eye contact, Anna pretended to be interested in the labels of the different food items. If Jane noticed, she didn’t comment on Anna’s behavior. Instead, she mumbled, “Haven’t seen you in a while. Everything alright?” Jane’s question seemed a little forced, as if she was trying to appear invested when really she was trapped in her own head.
Obviously, Anna was familiar with the question. She was familiar with the half baked concern and how to deal with it. “M’fine. Just getting some food.”
Jane hummed in response and the two of them went back to their silence. “Do you know where Kit is?” Anna asked, glancing around the room. She hadn’t seen her friend all day, but that was probably because she had been shut up in her room.
“She’s been out for a walk with Anne for the last couple hours, why?”
“No reason,” Anna grabbed a bar and made her way out of the kitchen.
“You’ve been missing a lot lately,” Jane offhandedly said without turning to look at Anna.
Stopping in her tracks, Anna furrowed her eyebrows. “What do you mean?”
“Anna, we notice you, you’re not invisible to us,” Jane stopped writing in her book. She turned around to face Anna. “Kit’s been noticing you’re gone too. You’ve been missing a lot this last week. I just wish you wouldn’t isolate yourself.”
Clenching her fists, Anna felt a shiver run up her spine. She didn’t want to isolate herself. But she had a job to protect her friend, and if that meant throwing away her pacifism and shutting herself away in preparation, she would do it. “Jane, you have to know this is for the best. Don’t question it.”
“You know,” Jane’s laugh sounded more like a choking sound, “I’ve been told that a lot of times. Don’t question it. Accept it. I’ve gotten very good at doing what I was told. But I’m not going to stand by quietly while you do something absolutely stupid. What in the world could be so important that you’re cutting off the people that need you?”
Before Anna could respond, a frantic knocking came from the front door. “I’ll get it,” Jane muttered, leaving the room to go answer the door. Anna followed behind, waiting for Jane to talk to whoever kept banging on their door.
The loud knocking even brought Aragon out of her room to see what was going on. “Who in the world is knocking so loudly? Cathy’s finally asleep, I can’t have her waking up to this.” Anna chose to ignore Aragon’s concern for her goddaughter, noting how quickly she had shifted gears from helping Anna to helping Cathy.
Unlocking the door, Jane greeted, “Hello -” before she saw who was on the other side. A terrified Anne was leaning against the wall, her hands covered in blood. Her hair was matted with sweat and her eyes were bloodshot.
“You’ve got to help us,” she pleaded. That’s when the others noticed that she wasn’t only leaning against the wall, she was supporting Kitty who was slumped on the wall. Kit’s eyes were closed, her breathing labored in her unconscious state. There was a knife wound in her side where blood was still trickling out, covering her shirt in its thick redness. The blood was all over her, making her appear like some BBC murder victim. There were even streaks of blood on her pale face vaguely in the shape of Anne’s handprints.
Immediately, Aragon and Anna were picking up Kit, dragging her inside. “What the hell happened?” Anna demanded, ripping off her flannel to press it on Kit’s wound.
“It - It was Henry,” Anne stuttered, her entire body shaking. “He showed up and stabbed her and - and oh God it’s all my fault!”
“Everything will be okay,” Aragon assured Anne, searching for a first aid kit.
Jane was biting her nails as she stared down at the lifeless girl she thought of so fondly. This wasn’t Kit. Not this pale, blank faced version. The real Kit was fine! She was up in her room, sleeping, and this was some cruel prank Anne was playing on her. It had to be.
“I knew it,” mumbled a voice from the stairs. The other queens looked up at Cathy who was staring blank faced at the cousins. “I knew something would go wrong.”

Two Player Game || Orion & Skylar
Timing: August 7th, 2020
Location: Quarter
Tagging: @3starsquinn & @theskyeandsea
Description: Ever the nerds, Skylar and Rio meet up at Quarter for some good ol’ wholesome fun.
Warnings: Brief mention of chronic illness symptoms
Checking her phone, Skylar chewed on the inside of her cheek as she waited outside Quarter for Rio. The last time she’d gone to do something fun, that she’d dared to try and enjoy herself a little… she’d found herself locked in a room, spilling some of her deepest secrets to a near stranger. If something bad happened to her, at least Rio wasn’t a stranger? But… he’d been acting so strange the last few days. She’d seen his very public messages with Blanche, seen mentions of a wedding, things like that. But, wasn’t he dating Winston? Was it a game? Just a little prank or something? Her fingers drummed absently against her thigh, the sleeves of her long shirt rubbing against her palm. She was looking forward to stepping inside the cool AC of the arcade, where wearing a long sleeved shirt wouldn’t look too out of place. As she glanced down the street, she saw Rio walking up and offered a smile. “Hey Rio. I’m glad you could make it. This place is a lot of fun, I’ve been here a few times before.” She said with a nod.
Orion wasn’t a celebrity. He had grown up in the town and spent the majority of his life not knowing most of the people that lived in town. Now, it seemed like everywhere he went people were staring at him. He had created a public spectacle of himself. The most embarrassing public spectacle of all time, in the history of public spectacles. He wondered how Blanche ranked this in comparison to the graduation video. Rio didn’t even want to leave the house. The only reason he did was for Skylar. He did so incognito, with a snapback pulled over his head and sunglasses. Maybe he was being overdramatic. Maybe people didn’t care about this nearly as much as Rio thought they did. All he knew was that it felt like all eyes were on him, and as someone who hated attention this was basically the worst thing that could have ever happened to him. He spotted Skylar standing by the doors and waved as he got close. “Hey!” Rio sighed, hoping he sounded happier than he felt. He was happy to spend time with Skylar, honestly it would probably help him feel better. “Thanks for inviting me. I haven’t been here in forever. How are things going?” He tried for a smile and moved to head into the arcade. Less people meant less attention.
Rio’s appearance had caught Skylar slightly off-guard-- she didn’t think he owned a snapback, much less would wear one. But, it was still nice to see him. The last time she’d hung out with Rio, she’d still been in a haze of Bliss, not entirely processing everything around her. She’d managed to piece things together afterwards, realized dimly that there had been some strange kind of tension in the air. It didn’t really matter now, though. She’d been… too scared to use the medicine recently, not after what she’d seen in the Hall of Mirrors. And besides, she’d went to the lake to change only a few weeks ago and, as much as she hated having to do that, at least she hadn’t run into anyone dangerous, hadn’t lost her voice, hadn’t been hurt again. “Of course.” She said with a nod, following Rio inside the arcade. The flashing lights and sound of pinball machines rang through the room and Skylar turned to Rio, signing as she spoke. “It’s a little loud in here, so I might need to sign more often. Have any games you want to play first?”
It had been a year or two and Orion had almost forgotten just how loud the place was. Back when he was a kid, Rio loved the place. It had been more than a few years now since he came in, but it didn’t look like it had changed much in between. The noise was overwhelming almost immediately, his hunter hearing betraying him. Rio flinched at the sensory overload and tried to ignore it, signing to Skylar as he spoke quietly, “Sounds good to me. Don’t bother with Gauntlet” Rio pointed over to the abandoned game, “It’s been broken since I was a kid.” He laughed and pulled the sunglasses off of his face. He hoped that nobody in here would come up and ask about the wedding. “The first thing I used to do every time I came into this place was play Pac-Man.”
Over the loud clattering sounds of pinballs getting hit every which way and people yelling at Dragon’s Lair as the machine ate their last quarter, Skylar could barely hear a word that Rio was saying. But, his sign was fluid and easy to understand, which was part of why she liked hanging out with him. She didn’t have to try so hard like she normally did with other people when it came to conversation. “That works for me,” She said, lowering her voice to barely above a whisper as she signed back at him. She wasn’t entirely sure how hunter things worked-- she knew that Rio could hear better than most people, but she wasn’t really sure what qualified as “most people.” It was kind of ironic. The two of them being friends, but at opposite ends of the spectrums in more than a few areas. At the mention of Pac-Man she broke out into a smile. “That’s my favorite game, I’d love to play. That one or Dig Dug. There’s something cute about the little Reptar guys.” She signed as she began to wander towards the Pac-Man cabinet.
Orion was confident signing now. It had been a language he had always been interesting in learning and had been working towards before meeting Skylar. But he became more passionate about it after making friends with her and Ricky. While he couldn’t be perfect, he was confident that next to English it was his best language. “I love Dig dug!” Rio signed back, motioning towards the machine as they brushed past it to get to Pac-Man, “We can play that one next.” Rio didn’t talk any louder than necessary, especially considering the noise. He could barely hear with the sound of pinballs smacking against the machines and coins dumping down, scraping against metal on their way down. He rubbed at his ears, trying to be nonchalant as he did it, in an attempt to filter out some of the noise. Usually, his ears adjusted. It wasn’t continuous torture. It was just a matter of time. “I don’t mean to brag, but I’m pretty good at this game.” Rio laughed as he signed, pausing for a moment longer before sighing in defeat and signing, “I’m kidding. I’m so bad at this game. After so many years playing you’d think I may be better.”
“Amazing.” Skylar beamed, offering an enthusiastic thumbs up and leaned against the Pac-Man cabinet. She watched as Rio rubbed at his ears, saw how he seemed to wince just a bit at all the sound around them. It must be so loud in here for him. Digging around in her pockets, Skylar pulled out a small pack of tissues and held them out to him. “Do you think these might help?” She signed, “With all of the sound?” Skylar gestured to his ears. They weren’t quite ear plugs, but they would be better than being forced to listen to all the noise around her. As she watched the little flapping mouth run around the maze of bright pellets, Skylar relaxed a little bit. This was normal, this was fun. Even if neither one of them were quite normal, at least they could still relax like regular people. “I mean, I think it just takes a little bit of practice. And figuring out what works for you.” Sticking a quarter into the game, she signed quickly before the game started, “I always go for the bottom area first. See?” Skylar said as she played through the first stage, then the second, before she lost her first two lives on the third stage and the Game Over image blinked on the fourth. “I’m not great, but I’ve played it a lot.” She signed.
Skylar had taken notice, and the next thing Orion knew she was holding out tissues and offering them to him. He wasn’t sure how much it could help, but just knowing that Skylar was thinking about that for him was all that mattered. He took the tissues, signing a quick thank you before tearing it and stuffing a small portion into his ears. It didn’t fix things perfectly, but the loud sounds from the arcade and children were dulled at least a bit which helped tremendously. Rio settled in to watch Skylar and appreciated her strategy, carrying her all the way to the fourth round before dying. “Hey, I usually lose my first life in the first round or two. You’re better than me.” He grinned. He jumped on next and true to his word, by the time he finally scraped his way to the second level he had already lost two lives. It put him at a disadvantage from the beginning, but he was starting to get confident that he could at least get to the third, clearing three corners and heading towards the fourth with the ghosts double teamed him, coming from both sides and cutting him off before he could get to the slightly larger ball. The game over screen flashed, and Rio sighed before giving a knowing look towards Skylar, “See?” Rio pushed out of the chair, floating around the machine to see if Skylar was going another round or if Dig Dug had stolen her attention. As thankful as Rio was that Skylar had not mentioned anything about the prior weekend’s drama, he had to admit it left him a little nervous. Was she avoiding the topic? Had she just not seen it, by some miracle? Eventually, the pressure became too heavy and Rio found himself sighing, barely mumbling the words out loud, “So. You haven’t asked about last weekend at all.”
Smiling, Skylar offered a slight nod in acknowledgement as Rio filled his ears with tissues. It wasn’t perfect, but she could understand the discomfort that came with having sensory issues. Her hearing aids might help her, but they had their own drawbacks-- with all the noise around them, she couldn’t parse out anything, couldn’t really distinguish what was what. It all jumbled together into a barely comprehensible mishmash of sound. “It’s all just practice. I used to play it a lot when I was home sick. My brother had a whole bunch of old arcade games saved on his computer.” Skylar explained, whispering and signing as Rio took his turn once more. She wondered how Hunter was doing. He would have just finished his first year in college… Did he miss her? Did he wonder how she was? Or was he too busy with his classes to even think about her? She blinked, shaking her head slightly as she realized Rio’s lips were moving. She couldn’t quite make out the words. She’d been too distracted to catch them, she’d only seen something that looked like… Wheat thin? “Hm? Sorry, I didn’t catch that.” She signed apologetically. “Something about… oh.” The word clicked into place. “The weekend.” Her cheeks went red and she shook her head. “You don’t need to talk about that if you don’t want to. It’s okay, really.”
Despite the obvious differences, Orion had always felt connected to Skylar. Besides their common interests, their experiences actually seemed to be somewhat similar. Rio had never had a lot of illnesses to deal with growing up, but he had been forced inside for other reasons. Just like Skylar, he had turned to gaming and reading to pass the time while he was locked in his house. “Makes sense. I usually played gameboy or read whenever I was in my room.” The situations weren’t that comparable, Rio knew. He had been in good health at least, for what that was worth. He didn’t want to try to compare their experiences too much. At the end of the day, Skylar was still born into a species that Rio’s kind hunted. That was an advantage whether Rio accepted that heritage or not. Skylar zoned out for a minute, lost in some other thought. He happily signed it again, speaking the words quietly as he did. So she did know about it, but had not brought it up. What a good friend. “Thanks.” Rio signed as sincerely as he could. Because he was truly so, so thankful, “Just know... that wasn’t me in my right mind. And I wouldn’t do something like that to Winston.” Well, technically he had. But not while under the influence of a love potion. “But let’s see if you can beat the highest score in Dig Dug” Rio’s face beamed, pointing toward the arcade and rubbing his hands together excitedly.
“Mhm, I’d do that a lot too. But sometimes I’d get bored of Pokemon for the fiftieth time, you know? My brother found an emulator with arcade games, so I got pretty good at them.” Skylar said, remembering how quietly bashful Hunter had been when he’d shown her the games he’d picked out for her. It was, she realized now, how he’d shown how much he cared for her. The little conversations about video games, anime, their shared nerdy interests. She wondered if he still had that emulator on his laptop. Or if he’d deleted it too. As Rio continued to sign, she could see the emotion flickering on his face, the nerves. “I don’t really need to know what happened, if you don’t want to talk about it. But, I’m glad that you’re back to normal now.” She signed and nodded at the prospect of Dig Dug. “I don’t think I can beat the high score… But, I’m happy to give it a shot.” Skylar responded with an enthusiastic grin.
“That’s really cool,” Orion had basically abandoned talking at this point, mouthing the words without using any sound. He was glad she had a brother like that to share games with, even if she didn’t mention him a lot. Athena had never shared many interests that Rio had. “Maybe another time?” Rio signed with relief, happy that Skylar didn’t need some big explanation. Rio had embarrassed himself enough. He was tired of thinking about it, and more exhausted trying to explain it to people. Regardless, he was thankful that Skylar was willing to ignore it and continue on as if nothing happened. Considering how their relationship started, it seemed like a big development. There was a certain amount of trust that Rio wasn’t sure he would ever be able to earn back. It was nice to know that he had at least won some. Skylar was a good friend, and Rio was lucky that she had forgiven him. He wouldn’t have blamed her if she hadn’t. “Hey, I have faith in you. I think you’re going for the gold. I want your name up in first place. You got this!”
“Whenever you want to talk about it, let me know. Or if you don’t want to talk about it ever, that’s okay too.” Skylar nodded as she signed. She knew all too well what it was like, to have people want to hear about what was going on, to want to help and listen. But, when there was just too much shame, too much that people wouldn’t understand? She wouldn’t put pressure on Rio to open up if he didn’t want to. As they finished up their last round on Pac-Man, with Skylar getting halfway through stage seven before she lost focus because of the sharp ringing sound of alarm bells going off from a nearby shoot ‘em up game that sent feedback through her hearing aids. At that point, she decided it would be easiest to just turn them off. At least she wouldn’t be overwhelmed with sound. And besides, Rio was really good about signing with her. It was much appreciated in places like this. “I’ll do my best.” She signed before slipping a coin into the machine and watching intently as the little space man looking guy began to dig through the ground. “It’s really cool that there’s a place like this in town.” She whispered as she played, knowing Rio could hear her. “It’s nice to be able to just play games, you know?” And not worry about everything else that happened in White Crest.
Orion enjoyed the moment of peace the two were able to share. The town had a way of constantly changing and throwing people for a loop. This week it was a love potion, who knew what next week would bring. So in between it was nice to have some time to just enjoy life with a friend. Rio didn’t bother answering Skylar while she was playing. He didn’t want to distract her, plus Rio had noticed her flip her hearing aids off earlier. Instead he waited until she finished a level, taking advantage of the break between to turn towards her. “God, it’s so nice to just be able to unwind for once. This place was like a mini safe haven for me as a kid.” There were a few around town. When he needed to be away from his family or alone. The arcade and the drive in theatre were his most popular spots. The more sensitive his hearing got, the more often the drive in won out over the arcade l. Until he stopped coming altogether. But being here now, especially with a friend of his made him realize how much he missed the place. And how much he would enjoy it now coming back. “I’m really glad you invited me. It’s so nice to be able to do this.” Rio grinned at her, noticing the screen change and signing quickly, “Next round coming up. Get ready.”
Dig Dug might have been one of her favorite games, but Skylar wasn’t very good at it. She never could get the hang of dropping the rocks on the enemies and, more often than not, she wound up creating strange winding paths in the dirt that did very little to help her progress. But, she made it through the first stage and watched as Rio signed. It was nice of him to sign with her like this. As Rio talked about unwinding, Skylar remembered that he had lived here his whole life. What must that have been like? She’d only lived here for a year-- God, a year-- she could only imagine how hard growing up here must have been. “I’m glad that you had some place like this growing up.” She replied with a smile. “And yeah, of course. There’s been so much going on, I just thought it would be nice to do something fun for once.” Focusing on the game, she made it through a handful more of the levels before her little explorer man was unfortunately smushed by a poorly timed rock at just the wrong moment. “Mmm. Your turn.” She beamed
Orion couldn’t agree more. It was nice to do something for once. His week had been occupied by being drugged and then punched. He wouldn’t have called it the most successful of weeks, if it hadn’t been for this small reprieve. But knowing that things were good here gave Rio hope that the rest would turn out okay as well. For now, he just wanted to focus on enjoying it. He had been studying the screen intently as Skylar played through. He held his breath at every last second dodge. Cheered every time she defeated an enemy. Gasped when she lost a life. Finally, once she lost her last life Rio dramatically waved his arms in the air, silently miming an extended NOOO! He bashfully took the controls afterwards, afraid that he couldn’t measure up to her playing. He made it a few levels mostly unscathed. He started fumbling on the fourth level, second guessing a move that led to his death. He sighed, but carried in. He made it another two levels in before he eventually lost entirely.  As far as Dig Dug went, it may have been his best game yet. “Have you played Space Invaders? It’s the only game I managed to get a high score on in here.” Rio’s smile was wide with pride, “I mean, it was like tenth place or something but small victories, right?” He shrugged, taking the win. “I think that one is two player. Want to check it out?”
Rio’s enthusiasm as she made her way through the game was really encouraging, if a little distracting. But, it was still nice. Skylar had never had friends like this, who shared her interests, who enjoyed the games she did. Then again, she’d never really had friends before coming to White Crest. Just people who moved in and out of her life, never really making any lasting connections. She’d had people who had helped her out of pity or maybe guilt. But she’d never had friends like the ones she’d found here. Like Winston and Remmy and Rio and Morgan and Shiloh. The thought of Shiloh made her cheeks flush slightly and she was grateful for the glow of arcade machines to hide it. Skylar turned her attention to Rio’s game, gasping as he dodged around the screen, carefully weaving around the enemies. He was so good at this game, really. “That was so good.” She said, holding her hand up for him for a high five. At the mention of Space invaders, Skylar beamed. “That sounds great to me.”
“That was… lucky.” Orion paused midsign before finishing it. He had never considered that the enhanced reflexes that came along with his hunter genetics would help him in video games too. Rio had always been a bit of a spaz, and he thought that probably got in the way of any enhanced reflexes being offered to him. With Skylar he had been able to relax a bit, which made focusing on enjoying the game instead of stressing about dying easier. “I don’t think I’ve ever done that well before.” He laughed, returning the high five and jumping up from the seat. Skylar seemed just as excited about the idea of playing Space Invaders as Rio was. The two found the machine, Rio practically bouncing across the carpet in excitement. He slid into the seat next to Skylar and slid in the two quarters for the two to get started, “You ready?”
“That was amazing, really.” Skylar said with a smile. As the two of them made their way to the next game, she couldn’t help but think about how… good all of this was. Maybe, maybe life in White Crest wasn’t easy or simple. But, there were still good moments. And those made all the difference to her. Just being able to pretend like there wasn’t some secret of her looming over her head, that this entire town didn’t have danger lurking behind every corner, it was nice. Moments like these were the ones that counted. “Yup.” She said, giving Rio a thumbs up and a grin. “Game on!”

Fic: Chasing Gazes
This was my piece in the @avocadotoastskkzine! I’ve been lazy about formatting and all the little things to post online so it’s up a lot later than when we were allowed to post. I had a lot of fun with this!
Read on AO3.
Pairing: Dazai Osamu / Nakahara Chuuya Word Count: 5,000 Warnings/Tags: T. Rockstar AU, rivals to contract friends to lovers, fake/pretend relationship but it’s fake friendship instead of fake dating, Summary: Maybe getting into a one-sided drunken fight with Dazai of Armed Detective Records in public wasn’t the best idea.
Ougai and Kouyou watch Chuuya storm around Ougai’s office. He finishes by slamming his hands down on Ougai’s desk, breathing heavily and glaring murder. Ougai drums his fingers expectantly.
“There’s no way we’re working with that bastard!”
“Gin, Ryunosuke, and Tachihara have already agreed,” Kouyou says from behind.
“Kouyou suggested to wait to tell you until everything was settled,” Ougai explains. He glances at the jostled items on his desk. “We were all in agreement.”
He’s surrounded by traitors. All of them. Traitors.
Chuuya crosses his arms over his chest with a huff. He knew he was in for a scolding when he was called to Ougai’s office. He knew when he woke up to Google alerts and tweets and tabloid articles with his arm pulled back ready to throw a punch—that ended up missing, seeing as Chuuya’s knuckles are fine. Which is unfortunate in Chuuya’s opinion, but he’s in the minority.
Maybe getting into a one-sided drunken fight with Dazai of Armed Detective Records in public wasn’t the best idea. But he doesn’t even remember much of what happened. All he remembers is that he’d already been in a bad mood because he’d come second to Dazai in yet another popularity list that everyone seemed to be talking about.
So he went to Arahabaki, a bar he’d been going to since he was an underage kid begging the owner until he was allowed to perform on weekdays after school. Arahabaki is where Ougai found him and he joined the Akutagawas and Tachihara to form BlackSheep.
It’s his turf. Dazai wasn’t supposed to be anywhere near it.
Ougai hands over a file of papers. "Sign this and we’re all set."
Chuuya takes the packet and flips through. It's a contract detailing the collaboration for two songs, one by BlackSheep featuring Dazai and one by Dazai featuring Chuuya alone. It seems easy enough, but as Chuuya reads on, the contract starts detailing events he has to do with Dazai. A few of them involve the rest of BlackSheep but mostly it’s just him.
“What the hell is this?” Chuuya flips through the contract. “Be seen having meals together, interact and post on social media about and with each other, present the image of best friends?”
“We need to clean up your image. Your rivalry with Dazai, however self-declared⸺”
“Self-declared!?”
“⸺and one-sided was fine for sales for a while, but getting into an actual altercation is not.”
Kouyou adds, “ADR is being quite generous considering you almost injured their cash cow.”
“They had the choice of taking advantage of this to promote themselves while your reputation sinks. But—” Ougai’s grin sends a shiver of dread down Chuuya’s spine—“what’s better marketing than two rivals becoming the best of friends?”
“His fans hate me,” Chuuya argues.
Ougai waves his concern off. “Vocal minorities. Have you any idea how much fanfiction there is of the two of you?”
Chuuya does not know nor does he want to.
“Anyway, everything’s already set. We’re just waiting for your signature.”
Chuuya flips to the last page where six signatures are scribbled at the bottom. The terms could be a lot worse. Dazai and ADR could have left Chuuya to sink and he’s not alone. He’d have dragged BlackSheep down with him and he’d never forgive himself for that. Ryunosuke would kill him if Gin, by some miracle, didn’t beat him to it. Tachihara would burn his guitars.
Reluctantly, Chuuya grabs a pen and signs in the space left next to Dazai’s obnoxious flourish. Just as he finishes, a knock sounds on the door behind him followed by Ryota’s voice. “Mr. Mori, I have your guests.”
Chuuya drops the pen as Dazai enters, grinning wide. “Thanks for having us.”
“No time like the present, my ass,” Chuuya mutters. Dazai came with Kunikida, his manager, and regards from Yukichi, ADR’s president. After a quick round of introductions, Ougai tossed Dazai and Chuuya out with the company credit card and everyone’s orders to go buy from a nearby café.
They’re in minimal disguise, hats and sunglasses, but the café’s between rush hours. Some of the few patrons have been glancing over and whispering to their companions, but no one’s come up to them just yet. Chuuya’s noticed a few awkwardly angled phones.
“Hmm. What’re you thinking of getting?” Dazai’s scanning the menu.
“We don’t have to actually make small talk,” Chuuya replies. “Just sit and look pretty for fans and tipped paps.”
Dazai ignores him. “I’ll go up when you decide what you want.”
“I can order my own damn drink. And it’s on my label’s card.” He goes to do just that, Ougai’s card is in his pocket, anyway, but Dazai grabs his wrist and holds him back.
It takes every part of Chuuya not to yank his hand free and go off on the popstar. Ougai would kill him. Kouyou would sign him up for one of those terrible celebrity game shows.
“Yes?” Chuuya fixes a tense smile and tries to pull his hand away, but Dazai’s grip is unrelenting.
Dazai steps closer but there’s really no space for him to be doing so, they’re chest to chest. To Chuuya’s displeasure he barely makes it to Dazai’s chin. It’s one thing to know there’s 21 centimeters between them and another to confront it so closely.
“Seriously, let me cover it. It’s my turn.” Dazai beams down a smile, all commercial teeth and conniving eyes.
Chuuya has no idea what the hell Dazai’s on about. He’s about to say as much but Dazai squeezes his wrist and lowers his voice, keeping his smile in place. “Sit and look pretty, right? Suits you more than me.”
He places a hand on Chuuya’s shoulder and gently but firmly pushes him towards a barstool by the window. Chuuya’s too stunned by Dazai’s cryptic statement to fight and even then he’s stuck, legally bound not to make a commotion. So he fixes a smile that’s likely more of a grimace, conceding. Dazai still takes a touch too long to let go of him.
It’s not until Chuuya’s slouching in the seat that he realizes he never told Dazai what he wanted, but it doesn’t matter as long as they finish up quickly. His gaze flits about the café but ultimately lands and stays on Dazai because there’s nothing else to do. The man rocks on his heels like he’s a kid who can’t stand still.
The line’s short and Dazai makes his order and pays quickly. He waits by the pick-up, leaning against the counter like he’s posing. When he meets Chuuya’s gaze and winks, Chuuya turns away before he can scowl and looks out the window, until an iced drink is held in his face.
“What?”
“A drink.” Dazai shakes the cup.
Chuuya’s eye twitches. “I can see that.”
“One of their summer iced teas. Thought you might like it.”
Chuuya hesitantly takes the drink and a sip, grudgingly admitting, “It’s good.” He glances up at Dazai only to see that Dazai’s gaze is a little too focused on him.
Chuuya’s gotten used to being watched. Even when he wasn’t a celebrity people watched him, granted, for vastly different reasons, but Dazai’s stare smothers them all. It’s as if Dazai’s seeing into him, seeing something Chuuya can’t and it puts Chuuya at a disadvantage. It’s like he’s lost before he even knew he was competing and still didn’t know in what.
“Go get the rest of them, they’re ready.” Chuuya goes to get the door for Dazai when he gets a tray of everyone else’s drinks and a bag of cakes. Chuuya takes the bag from him and intends on it being a silent walk but Dazai has other ideas.
“What’s your schedule like today?” Dazai turns so he’s walking backwards. He pulls a too-perfect expression of sincere curiosity. “Hmm? Your manager said you weren’t that busy.”
“I’m busy.” Chuuya doesn’t like Dazai’s insinuating tone. “Today’s free time is rare.”
The way Dazai’s grin widens has Chuuya walking faster so he doesn’t give last night’s punch another go. He’s sober so he won’t miss this time.
“Then how’s BlackSheep’s new album coming along? Your last single did well.”
Chuuya’s eye twitches. ‘Well’ was understating it. It was number one on the charts when it came out. And then Dazai released a new song not a week later and BlackSheep dropped to number two. From Dazai’s willful grin, he’s well aware of that.
Luckily for Chuuya, PM’s doors are just ahead stopping him—for now—from reacting. Because that’s what Dazai does. He gets under your skin and baits you into reacting and when Chuuya does, he ends up the bad guy. Last night was definitely Dazai’s fault.
They return to Ougai’s office and distribute drinks and snacks before going over the contract, again. It’s mostly their managers talking. Chuuya sulkily drinks his tea because he doesn’t really have much of a choice in things, apparently. When they wrap up, Kouyou orders Chuuya to walk Dazai out while she walks Kunikida to their car.
Chuuya spots Kouyou’s tipped reporter almost immediately once they’re outside.
“Looking forward to next time, Chuuya,” Dazai says, giving the reporter a good angle.
“Definitely,” Chuuya replies, lying through his camera-ready grin.
When Kunikida pulls up, Chuuya goes to wave a truly heartfelt good-bye to Dazai, but Dazai has other ideas. Before Chuuya can raise his hand, Dazai’s stepping in and hugging him.
Despite his twig-thin appearance, there’s strength in Dazai’s arms. He presses close to Chuuya, fitting their bodies together so all Chuuya can feel is Dazai.
Chuuya freezes, tries to step back but Dazai’s arms tighten and he ducks his head to Chuuya’s ear, whispering, “Best of friends, remember?”
With great effort, Chuuya’s arms come up to return the hug as he hides his scowl against Dazai’s chest. The bastard’s height has its uses. “Fuck you.”
Dazai pulls away with a shit-eating grin and lazily waves as he gets into Kunikida’s car and they finally, finally, drive away.
Kouyou’s waiting for him inside and beckons him to follow her. “Come on. Since you’re here, you can continue working on the album. Ryunosuke and Tachihara are already here and Gin will join you boys at four.”
It’s technically his rare day off but he’d have been working on new songs at home anyway, so he follows without argument.
Kouyou drops him off at one of the practice rooms that BlackSheep have been using at all hours of the day for the past few weeks. They walk in on Tachihara and Ryunosuke in the middle of a break, Ryunosuke at a table with a bento and tea, and Tachihara lying down on the spare futon they keep in the corner, on his phone.
“How was your meeting with your new best friend?” Tachihara asks without looking up.
“You’re all traitors,” Chuuya replies, grabbing the chair opposite Ryunosuke. “What’s new?”
Ryunosuke uses one hand to slide over a revised composition of what they’d been working on yesterday.
“Lyrics still need work,” Tachihara says from the floor. “Huh. Have you checked Dazai’s Instagram?”
“Why would I?”
“Prob should now that you guys are besties.”
Chuuya glares at him but pulls out his phone. His page is rarely updated outside of promotional obligations but he finds Dazai’s profile. At first, he’s surprised by the ‘follow back’ option. But his attention quickly shifts to the newest post.
He has no idea when Dazai took the photo. It’s of Chuuya in the café drinking the iced tea Dazai had got him. He can’t even be angry because it’s actually a good photo of him. But when Chuuya reads the caption, his ears grow warm.
[ @blacksheepchuuya makes sitting and looking pretty so easy, right? ]
“That asshole.” But he likes the photo and follows Dazai back. Because he has to.
The first day they actually work together, Dazai returns to PM. It’s a disaster.
Everyone gets along with him and he’s polite and brings donuts. Chuuya, unlike his bandmates, doesn’t partake in the bribe even though the dark chocolate glaze Dazai brought is his favorite.
When they do finally get to work, Dazai requests that they play some of what they’ve done so far.
“Didn’t realize spying was part of the contract,” Chuuya says.
Dazai blinks innocently. “Not at all. Since our song will be part of your new album, I just wanted to know what the general sound was to make sure I fit with what you have. Unless you haven’t got much done yet.”
Chuuya grits his teeth, knows he’s being baited, but Dazai’s not wrong. Dazai sits with his legs crossed and stares directly at Chuuya while they play snippets of their songs. Chuuya ignores him.
As they play, his ire fades as he focus on the music, on Tachihara’s drums, Gin’s bass, Ryunosuke’s guitar and supporting vocals. He forgets his audience, eyes closed as he sings. It’s like a regular practice session. At least until he opens his eyes and meets Dazai’s gaze. He’s watching intently, like in the café, expression unreadable, but it’s gone in a flash back to his usual aloof amusement. When they finish, Dazai doesn’t look at Chuuya. He claps and hands out praises to Chuuya’s apparently easy bandmates. Tachihara doesn’t even reply with his usual arrogant snark. Ryunosuke preens. At least Gin’s still on his side.
Later, when Ryunosuke’s showing Dazai what they’re in the middle of, Gin says, “Dazai’s not bad. It’ll be fun working with him,” and Chuuya takes everything good he’s thought about her back.
It is not fun working with him.
By the time they have to end for the day they haven’t done much. It’s not Chuuya’s fault, despite the looks everyone keeps giving him. Dazai’s ideas and suggestions weren’t good enough. Chuuya has standards and if Dazai doesn’t meet them, that’s his problem.
“You know,” Tachihara says as they pack up to head over to film a wine commercial Chuuya’s been looking forward to. “The more you fight the longer you’re going to have to work with him.”
Chuuya tells him to shut up.
Dazai walks out with them to the van and pulls Chuuya into another hug goodbye. Kouyou hadn’t texted him about a tipped pap so he figures Dazai’s side arranged someone who was better at hiding.
The second time they work together a few days later goes somewhat better. With Gin and Tachihara giving him pointed looks, Chuuya doesn’t combat everything Dazai does. But they still argue over a refrain for half an hour before the two are separated, and Chuuya has to walk him out.
Their next commitment is a photoshoot. They’re all in some sort of suit and tie look, Dazai in white and gold and BlackSheep in black and silver.
Ranpo, an eccentric photographer who’s worked with PM and ADR several times starts with just BlackSheep. Dazai stands against the back wall and watches. Chuuya feels his eyes rove over his body like hands. It’s disconcerting. When Chuuya’s hanging off Tachihara in a manner that’s a little provocative per Ranpo’s directions, Dazai’s gaze burns.
“Something wrong, Chuuya?” Ranpo asks. “Your face is a little red.”
Chuuya doesn’t look at Dazai. “I’m fine.”
But Ranpo says they’ve got plenty of great shots to work with and Dazai’s called up for a few solos before they do all five of them.
Dazai passes him a bottle of water as they switch places. “Pity your brand is all dark and edgy. You’d look great smiling.”
“W-what?” He can’t have heard right.
But Dazai carries on, their fingers meeting around wet plastic. “But I don’t know if I want the whole world to know your smile that easily.” And he leaves Chuuya with the water bottle that’s too cold against his heated skin.
“You do look a little red,” Ryunosuke says when Chuuya takes a seat in the back.
“I’m fine. It’s hot,” Chuuya replies and drinks his water. He sneaks a glance at Dazai and finds the man already watching him over their crouched photographer, loosening his tie.
Chuuya’s caught in Dazai’s gaze, only released when Dazai has to break contact to follow Ranpo’s directions. When Ranpo finishes with Dazai they move onto the group shots.
Assistants bring a loveseat onto the set that everyone has to fit on with Chuuya and Dazai in the middle since they’re the focus of this whole farce. Gin and Tachihara take up the armrests and Ryunosuke stands by Gin.
The loveseat is intimate. When Chuuya sits down beside Dazai there’s really not much room between them, yet Ranpo orders them closer.
Chuuya grits his teeth. He doesn’t know what Ranpo wants from them, there’s not much closer they can get. But Dazai curls his arm around Chuuya’s waist and Chuuya all but ends up in Dazai’s lap. Dazai radiates heat and his hand on Chuuya’s hip is like a brand.
Ranpo says, “Good,” and the camera clicks.
It’s the worst shoot he’s ever had to do. Dazai is far too close and it’s hot and uncomfortable but Ranpo seems to want the two of them all over each other.
Just when Chuuya thinks they’re finally done, Ranpo says, “Now just Chuuya and Dazai.”
The second his bandmates are off the set, Chuuya leans closer to the free armrest but Dazai decides to throw his legs over the side of his armrest and lie down with his head on Chuuya’s lap. He grins up as Ranpo takes photos that probably won’t be used because Chuuya’s glaring down at the annoyance he’s contractually bound to.
“What are you doing?” he hisses.
Dazai just reaches up and steals Chuuya’s hat. “Your scowls are almost as cute a smile.”
Chuuya splutters, face heating. He fists Dazai’s tie and yanks him up, maybe trying to choke the bastard, but Dazai just laughs and Ranpo yells at them to hold the pose.
Dazai spends the rest of the shoot all over Chuuya. He has some limb or another draped over him at all times, and even goes so far as to carry Chuuya for the few stunned seconds Chuuya allows it before recovering his senses. Ranpo only encourages it all. When the shoot finally ends, Chuuya rushes through getting his own clothes back on, but as he leaves the changing room, he walks into Dazai.
Arms wrap around his waist as he braces himself against Dazai’s obtrusive chest he’s become far too familiar with as of late.
“Careful there, shorty,” Dazai says but he doesn’t let go of Chuuya, even when Chuuya moves to step back, pushing against Dazai’s chest.
“Who’re you calling shorty?” If only he could punch him. Just once. Right in his stupid grinning face.
“Is there anyone else here?” Dazai removes one arm from around Chuuya and pulls out his phone. “We should post a selfie. Teaser material, among other things.”
Dazai’s already got his camera app open and holds his phone out with his stupid long arms. Chuuya doesn’t have the time to fix a pretense of a smile before Dazai’s taking the picture. Dazai checks the photo but pauses.
“Ah, never mind. Not good for the internet.”
“What, why?” Chuuya reaches out to snatch the phone and catches a glance. Chuuya’s captured with his eyes transitioning from wide surprise to narrowed scowl, and something must have been off with Dazai’s camera or the lighting because he looks far too flushed.
Dazai releases him. “I’m going to be late for another appointment. See you soon, shorty!”
He’s gone in a flash but the ghost of Dazai’s touch stays through his next appointment.
The following few weeks are a lot of back and forth between ADR and PM. Their breaks are spent going outside so reporters can see them and post photos and speculations. After they announce the collaboration, more photos of the two of them, outside of the ones they and their labels have been posting, appear online.
Chuuya notices a lot of them have Dazai looking at him when he’s not paying attention. Dazai’s expression isn’t one Chuuya’s used to seeing. It’s soft, thoughtful. His mouth curved in a gentle smile that makes Chuuya’s ears burn.
Chuuya’s at ADR waiting for Dazai. He’d come early and Dazai was apparently going to be running late so he busies himself by working on a song that’s been swimming around his head. It’s mostly just a jumble of verses but they bring Dazai’s face to his mind and make him unable to progress much.
Frustration gets to him quickly so he takes a break, resting his head on the table. He doesn’t mean to fall asleep but he wakes up to brown eyes watching him. He sits up, quick enough to make his head spin and wipes any traces of drool from his mouth, flustered.
“When’d you get here?” Was he just watching Chuuya sleep? Chuuya rubs his face, it feels too warm.
“Just now. Were you working on this?”
Dazai holds up Chuuya’s partial lyrics that Chuuya quickly snatches, folding the paper up and putting it away. “It’s nothing.”
There’s a box on the table. Dazai opens it and pushes it towards Chuuya. “I brought snacks.” More donuts and this time, Chuuya takes the dark chocolate offering.
“This doesn’t mean anything,” he says and Dazai just hums.
After that, their schedules don’t line up for close to two weeks and that’s only partly Chuuya’s fault. He comes down with a weird cold the mornings he has something scheduled with Dazai, his heart racing, his skin too warm, and his stomach twisting. The symptoms worsen whenever he sees photos of the two of them or just Dazai, works on the unfinished lyrics. When he thinks about Dazai’s casual touches for cameras.
Their only interactions are through social media to keep to their contracts. Fans from both sides have been speculating and directly asking what’s going on between them. Dazai’s as enigmatic online as he is in person and his answers are unhelpful, to say the least. Chuuya just doesn’t respond to the direct questions. They have an interview soon anyway.
It’s early when Chuuya’s at the studio for a morning talk show he and Dazai have a segment on. ADR and PM announced their collaboration and quickly set up the first TV interview.
Chuuya doesn’t see Dazai until right before they’re due on set and there’s no time to talk or rehash what their stories are. Not only do they have to sell their upcoming albums, but their friendship too.
They wait in the wings, fitted with body mics and standing closer together than needed. Chuuya crosses his arms, tries not to fidget, not think about Dazai being so close. He’d gotten familiar with the feel of Dazai near and around him and not seeing him for weeks has amplified his awareness of the other man. He’s so caught in his own thoughts that he almost misses their cue, but Dazai grabs his hand and leads the walk onto the stage, letting go just before the cameras catch them. The applause is deafening. There’s no time to think. Chuuya pastes on a smile and does his job.
They quickly go through the usual pleasantries and get to business when their interviewer, Naomi, asks them about their albums. Dazai takes the lead for most of the answers, charming everyone with winks and cheeky grins. He’s a firm line of heat against Chuuya’s side, arm loosely draped over the back of the couch they have to share, fingers brushing against the back of Chuuya’s neck.
“You both have been taking social media by storm since you publicized your friendship and collab. How long have you two been close?”
Chuuya looks to Dazai but it seems it’s his turn to answer. “It just…happened. Our circles don’t exactly mix but we cross paths enough. Dazai may have started his career before me but we’re the same age and I caught up to him. It kind of developed from there.”
“So is there any truth to the big rivalry between you two?”
Dazai laughs and leans into Chuuya. His arm moves from the back of the couch to settle around Chuuya’s shoulders. “Chuuya’s very competitive so there’s some professional rivalry, but I’m actually a fan. I own every CD BlackSheep’s ever released and I’ve been following Chuuya for years. I used to watch him perform at Arahabaki.” When Dazai glances at him, his smile doesn’t look as sharp as it usually is.
Chuuya can’t hide his surprise. “You’ve known me since then? Why didn’t you ever say anything?”
“Let me have some secrets.” Dazai winks at the audience and incites joking boos.
“All you are, are secrets,” Chuuya huffs. His mind can’t stop circling about Dazai knowing him for that long. He’d always thought it was one-sided. Why would Dazai have known him before BlackSheep got popular?
“I’m a lot more open with you, though.” It’s quiet, Chuuya almost isn’t sure he heard correctly, but their forgotten interviewer jumps back in.
“You both have just been full of secrets. Can you share anything about your new songs? Any teasers?”
Chuuya laughs and shakes his head. Even if he wanted to, they still don’t really have anything. He refuses to feel guilty for his part in their standstill progress. But Naomi pouts and tries to cajole them into giving away details.
Chuuya goes to continue their planned blue-balling, but Dazai sits up and shrugs. “Why not. A teaser for our lovely fans.”
Naomi and the audience cheer while Chuuya stares wide-eyed at Dazai, wondering what the idiot was doing as a piano is rolled onto the other side of the set.
The piano was not a part of the script. All they were supposed to do was be coy with hints and teasing. There isn’t supposed to be a piano and Dazai isn’t supposed to go up to it, or be grabbing Chuuya’s hand and pulling him along.
He can’t even demand to know what’s going on because he’s mic’d and they’re on a live broadcast. Dazai sits on the bench and pulls Chuuya down beside him. They’re flush against each other, the bench designed for one, not two, and Dazai rests his hands on the keys. There’s a sheet of paper on the music rack. Chuuya doesn’t recognize the handwriting but the lyrics are familiar. Dazai made some additions.
“When did you…” he starts but Dazai starts playing and even though all he has are questions, Chuuya sings.
They only play a snippet, maybe thirty seconds, forty-five tops. It’s a slow piece, slower than Chuuya’s used to. It’s definitely in Dazai’s style but some of the chord progressions are in a lot of Chuuya’s compositions. When they finish, Dazai’s not looking at Chuuya but Chuuya can’t look away.
The rest of their segment is a blur. He only vaguely registers smiling and nodding along to Naomi as she thanks them for joining her and waves off as they cut to commercial and Dazai and Chuuya sign a few pieces for their fans in the audience.
When Dazai gets held up talking to an enthusiastic fan, Chuuya makes his escape. He gets to the dressing room and downs one of the bottles of water, mind a whir of all the strange things Dazai’s said. Of what Dazai hid under all his antagonizing jabs and smirks.
He has no idea how to face Dazai. So he has to find Kouyou and get out before Dazai comes back. When he reaches for the door, it swings open as he grabs the handle, pulling him along and right into a chest.
The hand not on the other doorknob comes to hold Chuuya. “I’ve told you to be careful, shorty.”
Chuuya stumbles with a retort, mind blank but for the awareness of Dazai holding him, Dazai against him, Dazai grinning down at him. At least until whatever expression is stuck on his face wipes Dazai’s grin clean and Dazai shuffles them into the dressing room, door clicking shut at Dazai’s back.
“All the ways I imagined this, I didn’t think you’d be the one pinning me against a door,” he says.
Chuuya lets go of the doorknob and tries to step back and give both him and Dazai space, but Dazai doesn’t let go, instead he slides his hand around Chuuya and leans back against the door.
“What’re you doing?” Chuuya looks to the side. He’s flushed and his heart’s thudding in his chest, erratic and uneven as if it had an off-tempo twin.
“Not sure just yet.” Dazai’s voice softens. Chuuya’s never heard him sound so hesitant. Didn’t know he could be. The man doesn’t know how to be anything but a confidently arrogant pain in the ass.
The thudding at his chest increases and Chuuya realizes it’s not just his heart thundering away.
“Dazai,” Chuuya starts and makes himself look up and meets Dazai’s gaze.
Chuuya’s heart stutters and the other one ticks even faster, like it’s sprinting the last leg of a race.
“I like you,” Dazai says and Chuuya can feign ignorance, misunderstand, but the weight of Dazai’s words don’t allow room for anything but what Dazai means. Chuuya doesn’t know what to say.
“This is where you say you like me too,” Dazai fills the pause between them.
“What?” Chuuya splutters. “How do you know I like you?”
“Ah, so you do?” Dazai’s smirking but Chuuya feels the moment Dazai’s heart skips. He’s let his smug armor crack.
“Oh shut up,” Chuuya grumbles and rises up to make sure the tall bastard can’t say something irritating.
The kiss is brief but Chuuya’s breathless when he pulls back, or at least tries to. Dazai follows him and Chuuya’s stuck in Dazai’s arms that hug him close for another lingering press of mouths that for once have nothing mocking to say.
“I think the rest of this collaboration is going to be fun,” Dazai says and his smile isn’t the sharp one he flashes to cameras.

Did Sasuke discover that Izuna told Tobirama the true?
He did. But not from Izuna.
They were serveiling a warehouse where they got a lead and the car was so quiet and tense. Neither spoke too each other. The tension had been there for the whole day. Neither mentioned it.
Until they were in the car, two hours in. Tobirama looked briefly at his phone to check the time, ignoring the four messages he got from Izuna. Sasuke could see that. This is precisely why he was opposed to Izuna and Tobirama fucking around. Izuna was family and Tobirama was his partner in this case and seeing him ignore his cousin’s text just rubbed him in the wrong way.
“You’re given judgement eyes,” Tobirama said.
“You slept with my cousin, I can make judgement eyes.” Sasuke shots back.
There was a silence.
“So what’s the deal anyway. Why my cousin? Are you taking advantage because he is in a bad position or you using him to bug me-”
“Bold of you to assume it has something to do with you.” Tobirama says. “You’re pretty full of yourself.”
“Does it not?” Sasuke asks, looking at the side of Tobirama’s face. The men’s red eyes were glued in front of him, but they seemed very focussed for somebody who was just staring at a warehouse.
“You lied to me.”  He said after a few seconds of silence.
Sasuke didn’t say anything. Now he was a naturally good lair and not opposed to a white lie here and there. He went back in his memory to try to remember any recent lies he had told, but none came to mind.
“You lied to me about Itama’s last words.”
Sasuke averted his gaze when Tobirama’s eyes shot over at him. He was pulled back to nineteen years ago when he was just fourteen years old, dragging the body of his dead classmate through the back gates of the school. He could smell the awful scent that came from the cut bowls. The blood covering his hand as he tried to push the bowles back, holding the dead body he wished had some chance of survival. He had seen other classmates die, but none so brutal. None he got to know...He considered a decent person...A friend.
Sasuke took a deep breath, trying to push the images out of his mind. He looked down at his hand, they were clean. No blood. He cursed Izuna under his breath.
“What do you want me to say?” Sasuke asked him, “There should’ve been a part  in you that always knew.”
“I took your words over mine.” Tobirama spoke softly.
“You took my words because you wanted them to be true. That is why you blocked out your own reasoning.”
“That is not what I want to hear!” Tobirama raises his voice angry. “I want to know. Why did you lie all those years ago? Did you think I was pitiful?”
“Come on-”
“No. No I want to know.” Tobirama adjusted his position in the front seat so he was facing Sasuke.
“It is so long ago I don’t even remem-”
“Bullshit, you know just as well as I that you remember everything. Everyday. Every creak and ever god damn cockroach in that building. I know. Because I do. Because Kakashi does.”
“I was thrown in solitary for two days! I was starving and was thirsty and I was weak. You know how many people had it out for me? I was in the top ten ranking students of the school and just a first year. I couldn’t fight, I couldn’t hide...I just needed a fucking shower. I was covered in Itama’s blood I was forced to look at the little pieces of his bowels under my fingernails! They grew hard! I had no idea where the blood ended and my skin started!”
Tobirama could see Sasuke’s fist clenching, his jaws pressed tightly together. He recognised that look in his eyes. That exact same look he had of anger and resentment. He remember seeing it on his face that same day, all those years ago. They had cremated his brother’s body, together with the bodies of all the other first years that had passed. He had held Kawarama, wiping the tears of his last brother left. Promesing he was there for him, he will always be there for him. His heart had felt restless and he hadn’t slept well. He never slept well, but it was worse knowing Itama was dead. He couldn’t get the image out of his head. How that boy carried his body over the gates. How Tobirama was relieved for a second seeing his younger brother’s characteristic hair...Only to be shocked by the sight of his dead body. Itame’s stomach was slashed open, his bowels were hanging out. He did not know how did it. Who killed his youngest brother, but he remembers the boy holding his brother. A part of him wondered if Danzo had put him up to it. Kill Itama, bring his body to the gates. Make the number one student suffer, let him know his precious siblings could not be protected by him forever.
He had wanted answer, he was ready to go to any extent to get them. He had been looking for that boy. He ranked number seven. Very high for someone who was just in their first year. Danzo must have had something to do with it. His ranking must have gone up by killing Itama. Tobirama was sure of it. He couldn’t find him for the past two days, it was suspicious. But then he heard noises, whispers in the night. He was walking down the corridor, passing the bathroom. He lingered around the door, hearing talking, some laughter.
Students killing students...It wasn’t a odd sight. Everybody had some beef with each other. Everybody wanted to rank higher, everybody had done some wrong. He opened the door, pushing it open slightly. He saw four seniors holding this a first year down. wet towel on his face as they poured water over him, making him unable to breath. The pulled the towel away, pulling him up as the boy gasped for air.
He recognised Sasuke immediately. He looked pale, he was covered in bruises and gasping for air. His dark eyes looking with that hateful expression. He looked weak. Tobirama wouldn’t be surprised if he start begging for his life, screaming for help.
Sasuke didn’t, the guy cupping his cheeks, forcing him to look up.
“Not so tough now are we? Number seven? I knew a first year could never get a single digit. Who did you have to suck off to get a higher rank, hu?”
The three other guys laughed at this.
Sasuke’s hateful expression never changed. He spit right in the guys eye causing the older boy to back off. He took this opportunity to kick him in the crotch. He tried pulling away, but he was in a disadvantage. Not only where they taller, stronger and had and advantage in number. Sasuke hadn’t gotten food other than a stale piece of bread for the past two days. He was weakened and tired. They pushed him back down, pushing the towel back over his face and pulling him back. His head hitting the sink hart before the put the faucet on and held him down as the water began pouring over his face. He was struggling, he kept struggling. Even as he grew weaker and weaker, lacking oxygen. He kept on struggling.
Tobirama slammed the door shut behind him, catching the attention of all four of his classmates. They must be real sour being pushed down the rankings when Sasuke had been pushed up. The stopped everything they were down. Sasuke fell through his knees onto the wet tiles. He pulled the towel away and gasped for hair. How sweet those first couple of breaths felt, he probably never forgot.
“Get out.” Tobirama said, looking at the four one by one. They knew Tobirama. They saw him in combat. They had seen him fight...They saw him kill. He he;d the proud title of number one and he had earned it. They didn’t hesitate to get away, they seemed even grateful nothing lead to a fight. They quickly ran off.
Tobirama looked at Sasuke on the ground. His white shirt was wet from the water. It was all he wore with exception of the navy boxers. He looked up, looking at Tobirama. He must have had a thousand questions running through his head for a moment, but he narrowed it down to one.
“Are you here to kill me?” He asked, getting up from the floor. His knees were shaking for a second before he seemed to stabilise himself. He had spirit. Tobirama had to admit.
“That depends,” Tobirama said.
“I am not going to suck your fucking dick.” Sasuke said.
“I’ve been looking for you the past two days? Where were you?”
“Hawaii,” Sasuke said sarcastically, “Where the fuck do you think I was? In this fucking hell of course.”
“Solitary...” Tobirama wasn’t surprised, seeing the state of the boy he must have been there for over a day. In an annoyingly small, dark and cold room. Barley any water and food. With annoying high pitched music playing loudly for the entire day only to be turned off for five minutes, giving you the relief ot thinking it was over only for the same tune to play over again and again and again. Tobirama was no stranger to that room. But he hated it and avoided it at all costs, even if it meant twisting a few necks.
“Do you know me?” Tobirama approached Sasuke. Sasuke didn’t back off right away, but as Tobirama was getting closer he stepped back until his back hit the wall.
“You’re the first ranking student,” Sasuke said, looking around the bathroom. There was not much he could run or hide. He felt cornered. “Itama’s brother.”
“He gave you his name...” Tobirama looked slightly surprised at this.
“Yeah...” Sasuke said.
“How did he die?” Tobirama asked.
“You saw him, you saw how he die-” Sasuke stopped talking as the senior frustratedly punched the wall, right next to Sasuke’s face. Sasuke didn’t flinch, but he tensed up. Looking up to meet Tobirama’s eyes.
“Did you kill him?” Tobirama asked. “Did Danzo make you kill him?”
“No...” Sasuke spoke.
“Then who did?” Tobirama hissed.
“I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know! You saw him! You dragged his body here-”
“I don’t know because it wasn’t student!” Sasuke lowered his eyes, recalling the event. His lips trembled slightly, not being able to get any more out. He felt his heart pound in his chest. He had seen Tobirama around, he had heard about him. If anything he heard was true he was a very dangerous man and worthy of being the number one student in this school. Yet he remembered Itame’s words. How kind and gentle his older brother was. How he looked out for him and his other brother, what a good guy he was... It was hard to believe Itama when all he felt at the moment was the equivalent of a gun being pointed at his head and there was nothing he could do.
He felt a hand gently cup his cheek, moving his head up so he was looking back in the intimidating narrow, red, eyes.
“I need you to tell me, exactly what he looked like..What he sounded like...And how he acted.”
“What are you going to do?” Sasuke asked him, knowing the answer to that well.
“I am going to murder him,” he said those words in the kindest possible way it felt  comforting, although the words were not.
Sasuke tried to recall everything he knew, it wasn’t hard. He couldn’t get the image of the man out of his head. What was hard was finding his voice to do so, falling silent a lot to his frustration. But Tobirama didn’t get annoyed. Not that he showed it at least.
“Anything more?” Tobirama asked him after a while. Sasuke shook his head.
“Can I go?” He asked after a small silence.
“Just...One more thing..” Tobirama removed his hand from Sasuke’s cheek, stepping away from him to give him some room. “What did Itama say before he...Before died?” Tobirama asked softly.
Sasuke looked at the senior. His one cheek was scarred, his hair was brown. His eyes red. He shared similarities with Itame. They were brothers after all. The sounds of Itama’s screaming came to his head. His cries. His disbelief and shock. His repeated agonising screams.
What were his last words?
He had none...He was screaming...He was in shock...He died crying not believing he was holding his own intestines in his hands. Pleading he was not ready to die. Screaming he was scared. That’s how the boy died.
But was he going to say that to the man that was capable of murdering him in a second. The number one student in the horrible school...The things the guy must have done to reach number one ranking. How could he say the gruesome truth.
“He said to tell his brothers that he loves him...” Sasuke said.
“I was scared, okay...”
Tobirama was snapped back to reality as he looked around him. He was in the car, watching a warehouse...While in an alleged argument with Sasuke.
The man next to him turned his head away. He was upset. Of course he was, he was forced to recall memories he had suppressed so deep.
“I am sorry...” Tobirama said. Sasuke kept his face turned away from Tobirama.
“I should not have gotten mad at you. Should now have ambushed you with these questions and...I should not have slept with your cousin out of spite.”
He didn’t get a response from Sasuke.
“I’ll get your favourite coffee for a week long?” Tobirama offered.
Still no response.
“With your favour bagel...”
“Okay fine...” Sasuke muttered, moving his head so he was looking back at the warehouse.
--------------------
Back at the precinct. Izuna was enjoying his little cupcake as he suddenly hears a loud bang followed by his name being screamed. He put his cupcake carefully down and got up, grabbed the files. Looked at his cousin storming up to him. Threw the files at him before running away screaming, “HELP ME! HELP ME! HE IS GOING TO KILL ME!”
Precinct full of police officers and law enforcement...None dared to stop Sasuke on his path of rage. They were going all over the precinct and just when Sasuke was about to get to Izuna, ready to disfigure his cousin for life. Tobirama grabbed Sasuke around the middle, threw him over his shoulder and carried him away while Izuna was hiding behind Kakashi for protection.
“This isn’t over! I am going to cut your tongue off you snitch!”
“Can I file harassment charges?” Izuna asked Kakashi.
“Get in line. There are a ton of people who want to do that.”

Fic: The winner takes it all (A Peraltiago kid halloween heist fic)
This is a @b99fandomevents fic written for @yaboring-yabasic
Thank you for the prompt, hope you enjoy!
“Heist! Heist! Heist!” she continues to chant as they wander around the neighbourhood, candy bags held tight as they adhere to Amy’s pre-made chart of whose doors they’re allowed to knock on.
And Amy’s already worrying about the impending tantrum when Jake whispers, “We should put a little fake heist on for her.”
And so they end up in the living room, Jake and Amy grinning widely at Mia, as Jake holds Mr Zebra up high and Amy declares, “The winner needs to find and hold onto Mr Zebra until the clock says three, do you remember what the number three looks like Mia?”
Read it on AO3 here
Amy knows she’s one of Miss Ryan’s favourite parents. Of course it’s a disadvantage that she doesn’t get as much face-time as the mums who get to do regular pick-ups and drop offs, but she likes to think she makes up for lack of quantity with quality. She volunteers to help out on school trips, science fairs, sports days and other activities and projects whenever she can, along with helping to organise them, a binder ready for every eventuality. She’s also very engaged in Mia’s learning and development (she also has binders for this but doesn’t show these to teachers anymore after previous incidents where they felt like Amy was telling them how to do their jobs) and tries to attend all of the little award ceremonies (or make sure Jake attends the ones she can’t).
There are a couple of marks on her record, like the one time she had to pull out of helping with a play at the last minute due to a break in a case, and Jake had also been undercover that week, she had gotten Rosa to attend. And while Amy knew Mia was more than happy with that (probably happier than actually seeing her parents there, who praised everything she did and therefore were not difficult to impress, whereas impressing her favourite tia Rosa actually meant she had done something that was worth being impressed over) she had felt Miss Ryan’s judgement.  There was also the time that she had gotten over-excited about a project and sent too many emails at once. But Amy has used her Most-likely-to-befriend-a-school-administrator spirit to maintain a good rapport with Miss Ryan and has regular discussions with her about Mia’s progress.
She has no reason to suspect this discussion will be any different to the usual ones. Okay, so it’s in person, which is a little out of the ordinary, especially at this point in the year where there aren’t any parent-teacher conferences and there’s nothing coming up that needs planning. But Amy thinks it’s probably just about something good Mia has done. She’s not worried.
Well, she’s not worried until Miss Ryan asks, in a gentle voice,
“Are you and Jake having problems of some kind?”
Amy tenses and Jake sits up straighter in his chair.
“No. Not at all, why, what’s going on?”
“Mia has expressed upset that you are making her choose between the two of you…”
“That’s… I don’t understand… We’re not fighting and even if we were… we would never!”
“…She said something about a Halloween Heist.”
“Oh.”
Amy’s immensely shocked and horrified (both that they’ve clearly caused Mia a lot of distress with their questionable actions and that she’s definitely not going to be Miss Ryan’s favourite parent anymore).
“I am so sorry about this, of course we won’t involve Mia in the heist any further and we’ll have a discussion with her about this whole thing.”
Jake says, “Actually we won’t take part in the heist at all this year and that way we won’t even be tempted.”
His grin is too bright and Amy already knows where his head is (that he’s a terrible father just like his father was) but that’s a ledge she’ll have to talk him off later. Now, her focus is on Miss Ryan, and as much as she hates the idea of forgoing the heist altogether, Mia’s teacher is frowning a little less and so Amy reluctantly agrees.
“Miss Ryan, we really are very sorry about this, I understand that some of our choices here have been questionable, and of course we take full responsibility and will do our best to fix the damage, but I hope you will give me a chance to explain the whole story. I really think that with full context you will understand a lot better,” Amy’s tone is slightly pleading and she gives Mia’s teacher an imploring look.
Miss Ryan has the same look on her face she gets when Amy has a New Plan that they both know is going to be very long.
“Of course, go ahead.”
And Amy sends her an apologetic look, because it is a long story, starting seven whole years ago.
----
Seven years earlier
After a long day of baby-friendly Halloween craft activities and trick-or-treating, Amy’s lounging on the couch, drinking coffee and waiting for her energy to pick back up: it’s heist time. All they have to do is wait for the baby-sitter. And then her cell starts ringing. She answers to the sound of coughing and spluttering, followed by the baby-sitter saying in a weak tinny voice,
“Ms Santiago, I’m very sorry, I’m sick.”
“So sorry to hear that sweetheart, I hope you feel better soon,” Amy says, hoping she’s masking her disappointment appropriately. She walks into the bedroom, where Jake is pretending he’s not doing something related to his heist-plan, “Baby-sitter’s sick.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah. So do you want to flip for who stays and who goes?”
“We should both stay,” Jake says.
Amy smiles. “That’s sweet, but there’s no reason for us to both miss out.”
Jake sends her a beaming smile in return.
A moment later, an idea strikes, and they both simultaneously say,
“Wait, did you plan this!?”
And
“You did this didn’t you!?”
“Me?” Jake retorts incredulous, “You’re the one who got a ‘phone call’ from the babysitter.”
“Yeah, a call clearly arranged by you! How much did you pay her to cancel?”
“Nothing. Because clearly the babysitter didn’t even call you.”
“Let’s call her back and find out.”
“Oh please, do you think I don’t know that you would have planned for that.”
“I suppose we’re at an impasse.”
“Yes, we are at an impasse,” Jake says with an eyebrow raise that says, look I used that big word correctly, we both know what that means, Amy just rolls her eyes in response, “I guess we’ll have to flip for it after all.”
They both inspect the coin thoroughly. Amy flips it and Jake calls, “Heads.”
“It’s heads,” Amy says, disappointment purposefully bleeding into her tone, if this is part of Jake’s plan she’s not letting him get away with it guilt-free.
“Yes! ...Wait; this is part of your plan too, isn’t it?” Jake accuses, “You want us all to think you’re not playing, just so you can go behind our backs again! Well I’m not falling for it! You go, I’m staying right here!”
“Or maybe that’s exactly what your plan is! I’m staying here.”
“I guess we’ll just have to both stay here then!”
“Yeah, I guess we will!”
They pause, both frowning.
“We could take her with us?”
“Ooh, yes. Let’s do that.”
They draw up a timetable of when they will take turns looking after her, it requires a lot of negotiation, mainly over the last half an hour of the heist (which they’ve ended up having to split into six minute slots, Jake has Mia for the final twelve minutes in exchange for Amy having her for the first half hour of the heist).
“This is the final schedule,” Amy says, “there will be no deviations, except that we are each allowed one emergency handover which can be used at any time up until the final hour of the heist.”
Amy, never one to forgo an opportunity, discretely plants a bug on Mia. Mia happily toddles near Amy, not understanding what’s going on but clearly enjoying the energy of the whole game. She almost regrets having to hand her over to Jake (she’s so adorable to watch).
As soon as Jake hands her back, Amy shuffles them to the evidence lock-up, retrieving the bug, and begins listening, she grins. Oh this is perfect! She laughs, loud and excited. And Mia joins her, clapping her hands together like only a toddler can.
“You’ve done very good work,” she tells her daughter, “well done.”
Mia claps more, squealing with laughter.
It’s then that Amy hears it; Jake planting a recording device of his own. She shakes her head, immediately rewinding and messing with the recording, she can definitely use this to spread misinformation, she smiles at Mia, telling her, “Oh, this is going to be fun.”
 Six years earlier
“Heist!” Mia says the next year, eyeing the Halloween decorations as Jake puts her in her tiger costume.
“Heist!
Mia nods vigorously and enthusiastically.
Jake and Amy don’t put much effort into pretending to look, after all Mia is too busy running around looking for her stuffed toy to notice or care.
And later, she points to the three on the clock as she proudly clutches Mr Zebra.
Her parents clap and cheer. They tell Mia they love her, and put their coats on just as the babysitter takes her own off.
And their daughter is young enough that most kids her age wouldn’t question what’s happening here. But unfortunately, little Mia has inherited all of her parents detective instincts.
Her face falls.
“Heist?” Mia asks; her voice small.
But she doesn’t start bawling or throwing a tantrum, both things her parents could deal with. Instead she gives them a deeply disappointed look, that’s equal parts hurt someone-just-poked-his-abandonment-issues Jake (that Amy is powerless in the face of) and stressed an-authority-figure-expressed-dissatisfaction-in-her Amy (that Jake is powerless in the face of).
And so they cancel the baby-sitter and they both search her for recording devices three times before leaving.
Amy’s too focused on her plan to see how it happens, but somehow the heist ends like this:
Jake successfully gets Mia to run across the room to him carrying the heist object (a blue shoe). Amy’s enthralled- her heart filling up as she watches her daughter run with joy and determination. And as Jake swirls Mia around in celebration, both laughing a little uproariously, Amy thinks it’s almost worth losing.
 Five years earlier
Mia’s just as excited the following year and this time they don’t even bother booking a baby-sitter, it’s understood that she’ll be coming with them.
Two thirds into the heist Mia gets her hands on the prize, a gold medallion, and starts caterwauling any time anyone even tries to take it off her.
“This is cheating. We should disqualify both of them,” Rosa says, pointing at Jake and Amy.
“I have nothing to do with this, if anyone should be disqualified it should be Jake!” Amy exclaims.
“Let’s just get the thing off of her,” Jake says, waving a peanut butter cup in her face, and then Mr Zebra, and then an Ipad showing her favourite episode of Doc Mcstuffins. Mia doesn’t budge. “Mia,” her husband says in a sing-song voice, “if you give me the shiny thing I will take you to Disneyland.”
“Jake!” Amy admonishes.
“Don’t act like you didn’t start this,” Jake replies.
“It’s got to be Amy!” Charles says.
“Unless Jake’s bluffing and he’s promised to actually only take her to Disneyland if she doesn’t give it up,” Rosa says.
“Don’t be ridiculous. She’s still a baby!” Terry says, “She’s probably just more interested in the shiny thing.”
“Or maybe Terry’s behind this whole thing, he got to her, just like he got to Cheddar,” Amy says.
And so the argument goes on and on and on.
Mia hands over the medallion to Amy with a minute left on the clock.
 Four years earlier
“I’m a big girl and I’m going to decide what I do this year,” Mia states, and then quoting one of her favourite TV characters says, “I am a strong, indepeppendent, team player!”
“Of course you are sweetheart, it’s pronounced independent by the way.”
“In-de-pen-dent.”
“Very good. Well done.”
“What’s your plan mummy?” she asks.
“Daddy, I’m secretly on your team,” Mia whispers way-too-loud, but both of them pretend Amy hasn’t heard it even though they know she has.
“Mummy, I told daddy I’m secretly on his team but I’m actually secretly on your team!” Again, she’s well within Jake’s hearing range and the both of them smile indulgently.
  Three years earlier
Mia is solidly team Jake. They make the best team: they are going to win. She has a little binder and everything. She says with her binders and his ridiculous spontaneous (and yes, she can pronounce it correctly) ideas they will be unstoppable.
Two years earlier
Mia is solidly team Amy (because daddy is a loser who made her lose).
One year earlier
Mia is solidly team Jake until an hour before the end when- in an act of ruthless betrayal- she reveals she’s been on team Amy all along.
----
“I see,” Miss Ryan says once the tale is done, seemingly happier now, “That makes more sense. I know that to adults it may seem like it’s just teams for a game, but children, especially at Mia’s age, when greater understanding of the world around them and concepts of empathy are becoming more fully formed, can be particularly sensitive to such things. Just be aware of that in the future.”
“Of course,” Amy says as Jake nods vigorously.
And so, on the 31st, Jake and Amy are sat snuggled on the couch, with a bad horror movie ready to play and mugs of hot chocolate warming their hands. And a bowl of candy ready for trick-or-treaters.
It’s pleasant, Amy thinks. “I’m so tempted to go to the heist right now,” she says.
“We can’t!”
“Mia’s not even here, she doesn’t ever have to know.”
“I still can’t believe she abandoned us to go trick-or-treating with Cagney and Lacey and Ava, we’re awesome at trick-or-treating!”
“I know! Our baby girl is growing up.”
“So the heist?”
“No, you’re right, we can’t. She’ll find out and then she’ll feel left out and she won’t tell anyone the next time she’s upset about something.”
“Cool, cool, cool.”
They watch the movie. Amy laughs at Jake’s commentary and temporarily forgets about the heist entirely.
Jake and Amy both get up when they hear Cagney knock on the door, ready to great them and admire their respective candy hoards.
The last thing they expect is Mia grinning, holding up a trophy and exclaiming, “Suck it, losers!”
“What…what is happening?!”
Mia grins smugly, “I won the heist!”
Amy flitters between absolute outrage and absolute pride.
(And part of her is annoyed with herself because she really should’ve seen this coming. After all Mia has inherited all of her competitiveness and all of Jake’s competitiveness).
Before she can formulate words, Jake says, “Our baby girl really is growing up!”
“I know!” she replies, before turning to Mia, “Well played, congratulations!”
“Yeah, congrats! You earned this!” Jake adds.
“Thank you,” Mia says, doing an elaborate victory dance.
Amy hovers in Mia’s doorway that night, “You know your dad and I love you very much and we’re both very proud of you, not just for today.”
“I know mum.”
Amy continues, “Having said that. At next year’s heist, I’m going to destroy you.”
Mia smirks. “Not if I destroy you first.”

Stuck With You (Bucky Barnes x Reader)
Summary:You and Bucky Barnes get sent to work in a remote cabin for 3 days in Alaska, but an unexpected snow storm extends the trip an extra few days. The problem being? You two cant stand each other.
Pairing: Bucky Barnes X Reader
Word Count: 6.5k
Warnings: Language, Angst, Smut,(18+) rough sex? Unprotected Sex (Wrap those willies) Such a cliche
A/N: Its winter time which means its time to write the cliche fics where they get stuck in a cabin together. Not gunna lie, this took me over 10 hours to write and edit so i hope you like it! Replies are always welcome and just let me know if you want to be tagged in my work!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Steve why the hell do i have to go with her? Cant you come instead, even Nat would be better than her"
"Because buck, you two have the same training, Fury thought it would be a good idea. Plus me and Nat already have a mission of our own, its only for 3 days you'll live"
"She hates the cold she's just going to bitch the whole time that shes cold and were going to be in Alaska in the middle of fucking December"
"hey if you're that mad about it then take it up with Fury"
Sighing Bucky picked up his bags and sulked out the door towards the Quin-jet that was waiting for the two of you.
Trying to pack all of your sweaters, sweats, blankets and stealth gear into your small bags proved to be nearly impossible. Sighing you sat on you bed looking over at Natasha who was raiding you fridge. "You know that you have absolutely nothing to eat right" She said closing the fridge, walking over to rummage through your cabinets. "Well seeing as i'm going to be spending the next three days locked away in a cabin, i didn't think i needed to go grocery shopping"
"Haha finally" she exclaimed finding a box of of Oreos
"You couldn't have just went to your own room? its like two doors down"
"I'm already here whats the point, plus i know your not going to eat these, youre like a health nut now" she said walking over to lay on your bed opening up the cookies in the process
"hey naaat" you say turning to her "Can you pleeease trade places with me, i mean you actually like Barnes and you know i hate the cold"
Laughing she replied "I never said i liked him y/n i just put up with him"
"Yeah but at least he doesnt act completely disgusted when you enter the room"
You quickly became friends with everyone shortly after joining the avengers, coming from the same background as Natasha, Bucky and Wanda you thought you would get along with them the best, all bonding over your hatred for hydra. But you couldn't have been more wrong about Barnes, the first couple weeks he was fine with you, nice actually. He showed you around the Avengers compound, helped set up your bedroom and even showed you some TV that you hadn't seen. One day he just snapped and stopped saying hi when you saw each other, he would always have a snarky comeback to everything you said then he quit coming to movie night. No one really knew why not even Steve, everyone just kept their theories to themselves only one of them unknowingly knew exactly why.
"Its not up to me, you know Fury deals will all the missions and the teams so if you really want to swi-"
"No no its fine, i can deal with him, its only three days" you said cutting her off. You knew that talking to Fury wasn't going to change anything plus you didn't want to seem like some immature crybaby
______________________________________________________________
Walking off the Quinjet you were immediately hit with a gust of bone chilling wind, shivering you pulled your jacket tighter around your body. This was going to be the worst mission ever. Laughing Bucky walked passed you into the snow"Stop being a little baby, its not even that cold"
Looking over at Steve with pleading eyes begging him to take you place
"Those puppy eyes don't work on me sweetheart, you know that"
"it was worth a shot" you sighed feeling defeated, continuing your walk to the cabin.
It was small but cute, as cute as a log cabin in the middle of the woods in Alaska with 2 feet of snow on the ground could be. It had simple wood floors, a small kitchen to the left along with two bedrooms down a hall, to your right was a large stone fireplace, a brown couch and recliner. Natasha helped you bring your bags to your room as Steve did the same with Bucky. You unpacked you clothes while Nat helped with your computer and weapons, "You know maybe this will be good for the both of you, you can finally sort out your problems"
"Nat i don't even know what his problem is, i never did anything to make him hate me"
"Then talk to him y/n there's no better time to do it"
"I can think of a million different times i could talk to him and this isn't one of those times"
You had only been at this place for an hour and you already had a headache, waving goodbye to Steve and Natasha as they got back onto the quinjet off to start their own 3 day mission. Walking back into the warmth of the cabin you thought that maybe Barnes was going to be nice to you for once since this is actually a mission and not a walk in the park. You both set up your equipment on the coffee table, wanting to start asap so you both could get out of here. The mission was simple, hack into a near by hydra bases security cameras and watch for a specific individual, a new enhanced human. Once that person is spotted you both need to go in and take out that problem.
The later it got, the colder it got and by now you were freezing the only heat coming from the fire place you were sitting directly in front of, for someone that controls and makes fire you were always cold
"Why don't you just do us both a favor and jump right on it huh y/n it'll warm you right up" Buck said coming around the corner wearing only sweatpants and a tank top, how the hell was he not freezing his ass off.
"Sure Barnes, right after you go ahead and jump right into that lake out back" giving him a sweet smile
"Hey come look at this" Bucky called sitting in front of his computer. Reluctantly you got up from your spot by the fire and went to look over his shoulder at the computer screen.
"Is that him?"
"I don't know maybe go ahead at look at the file right in front of you" Bucky snapped at you,
Ignoring his comments you picked up the file and looked through it, noticing a tattoo on the mans arm in the picture and telling Buck to look for it on the screen
"Yeah that definitely him, lets go and get this over with" Bucky said standing up from his seat
"What no its freezing cold out there and its pitch black, we haven't even seen this place during the day what makes you think we'll be able to see it in the dark?"
"Did you seem to forget what our fucking job is y/n, if you're going to be a wuss about it ill do it myself" he said pushing past you walking to his room to change
He was right and you knew it, it was your job to get this guy the second you saw him but you were at a disadvantage to begin with. You didn't know your way around the base and to add to that it was pitch black out. Maybe if you convinced Bucky to wait until tomorrow morning you wouldn't be as reluctant to go.
Bucky came walking out of his room now in combat gear, a gun in hand, before he could make it out the door you grabbed his arm stopping him, making him turn around to look at you "Buck just wait until tomorrow don't throw on your tough guy act just cause you want to get out of here, I want to leave too but its not worth going in blind and risking the whole mission" Now you had a good point. "Fine, we leave here first thing in the morning, get this guy then call Tony to come get us" Realizing you still had a grip on his arm you let go, and with that he walked back to his room not be seen again until morning. You walked over and started putting out the fire, if you were going to be up early it was best to get some sleep while you still had time. Laying in bed wrapped up in an assortment of warm blankets you were texting Wanda asking her how her vacation with vision was going until you fell asleep. You woke up in the middle of the night to what sounded like grunts or whispers coming from buckys room, he's probably just having one of his nightmares again you thought, paying no attention to it and drifting back to sleep
______________________________________________________________
Waking up on the floor wrapped up in several blankets was not the best way to start your day but at least you got some sleep. Getting up you took your blanket with you into the living room, expecting to see Bucky with his gear in hand ready to yell at you for being late. Instead you found him yelling into the phone he was holding, frustrated he threw it against the wall causing it to brake into pieces. "Who the fuck shit in your cereal the smorning barnes" you teased, whipping around he looked at you dead in the eyes "You"
"what did i do i just wo-" he cut you off as he walked over to you and grabbed your arm pulling you over to the window and pushed the shades open. It was then that you saw absolutely nothing, nothing but the snow covering the window. A huge snow storm must've hit overnight and now you were trapped in hell with Bucky.
"How the fuck is this my fault" you said shaking out of his grasp
"In every fucking way" he screamed "if we just left to take care of our mission last night, we wouldn't be stuck here"
"That wouldn't have changed anything, It still would've snowed and we still would be stuck"
"At least Fury would know that the job was done, he would had a quinjet fly out for us. Just in case your small brain isn't catching onto what i'm saying ill simplify, We have no cell reception,no internet, nothing but walkies will work"
"Well i'm fucking sorry i didn't want either of us getting hurt"
"Like hell you cared about me getting hurt, you just didn't feel like going out in the cold,I can't believe that, out of all the people I was unfortunate to get stuck in a log cabin with, it had to be you." He spat at you
"It's the universe telling you that you made the asshole list and that you're a bastard who deserves coal. I just don't know why I'm being punished too." It sounded dumber out loud than it did in your head. "Whatever buck, i'm sorry i spoiled you special little day" You walked off back into your room, to give the super soldier some time to cool off. You stayed in there most of the day until you remembered you had brought a couple of movies with you, just something to occupy your mind. You got up and grabbed your laptop and a copy of Donnie Darko, it was a gift from Nat for your birthday, she knew how much you loved that crazy movie. You decided to go out and check in on Bucky and see if he was up for a movie, you had your arguments but you didn't hate the guy, you used to actually find him pretty cute back when you first joined.
"Hey uh do you wanna watch a movie? I forgot i brought some movies with me" He was sitting curled up on the recliner, if you didn't know any better you would've thought he was upset at something other than the mission.
Looking up at you he replied "Depends is it one of those dumb rom coms girls are so into"
"Actually no smart ass, its like a horror, drama fantasy thing its one of my favorites"
"Fine set it up on the table"
You both went and sat down on the couch, you grabbed the blanket from the back of the couch and threw it over yourself.
"Wow way to hog all of the blankets"
"Oh i'm sorry, i thought Mr. Winter Soldier doesn't get cold?' you mocked as you gave him the blanket and went to grab your own from your room. You looked back real quick to check if he was actually watching the movie, you must've stood up to fast and weren't seeing clearly because you swore you saw Barnes laugh. You were totally seeing things the only person to put a smile on that mans face was Rogers, or whenever he mocked you. Grabbing a bag of chips from the kitchen you went and sat back down on the couch.
"So was it a dream the whole damn time or"
"I honestly don't know, I've watched it a million times and i think its like some worm hole space thing"
"You begged me to watch a movie when you dont even understand the ending" He was so upset and confused
"Hey i never begged you, I only asked once. Admit it you liked it" You teased nudging him in the ribs
You both sat there and talked about the movie for what seemed liked hours, not realizing how close you two were now seated. You got on the topic of the TV shows you both used to watch months ago when you were friends. After not talking to him for so long and now the both of you being wrapped up in this movie made you start to realize how much you really missed him. He was one of the first friends you made and it broke your heart when he started to be mean.
"Buck i think im gunna go to bed, i got no sleep last night" you said yawning
"alright, ill see u in the morning"
Grabbing your blanket you started to get up "Arnt you exhausted? i thought i heard you last night having one of those nightmares"
He didn't get nightmares as frequently as he used to but they still happened, but he usually remembers them. They started to get better when you joined the Avengers, but he never told anyone that, and he refused to believe it himself.
"ya i guess i am, i hate those dreams" He didn't have any sort of nightmare last night, but you didn't need to know that, or the details of what he was actually doing.
"If u wanna talk about it im here, i know we didn't go through exactly the same stuff but i wanna help you if i can" You really did want to help Bucky, whatever he was going through, you knew how hard it was dealing with the trauma inflicted by hydra.
"Thanks y/n/n" He said walking behind you going to his room
You both got to your rooms and before you could close your door you heard Bucky whisper a faint "goodnight" under his breath.
Bucky sat in on the edge of his bed trying to wrap his mind around everything that happened today. He was happy to be talking to you again and not have every other sentence out of his mouth be a sarcastic jab at you. He hated to admit his feelings, they scared him to death, he was so used to feeling like some monster with no emotions. But you made him feel alive again, you made him feel human and you helped get rid of his nightmares without even knowing it. He was mad at himself still, he's been hurting you all these months just because he didn't want to admit his feelings.
Laying in bed you tried to get rid of that feeling in the pit of your stomach, the one you always seem to get when your falling for someone. You couldn't be falling for barnes, not again, he didn't even like you right? This was just an act he put on because you were stuck in this cabin together. At least that's what you told yourself. You did like barnes, more than you care to admit but it was just a silly crush it would go away once you got out of this place.
______________________________________________________________
Its now been 4 going on 5 since you've been stuck in this cabin, thankfully the snow finally stopped and it started to melt, at least you could now get your front door open. You both decided that today was the day you were going to find that hydra base and finish your mission, only 2 days behind schedule. Putting on your combat gear you grabbed your walkie, guns and a protein bar before walking out your bedroom door, Bucky already dressed waiting for you in the kitchen.
"He still in the same part of the building?" you asked walking over to check the computer once more
"Yeah same place, same amount of agents" he answered walking towards you peering over your shoulder at the screen telling you once more his tactical plan, His hot breath on your neck making you shiver. You tried to ignore all the thoughts running through your head and pushed them towards the back of your head. You needed to focus on this mission or else one of you was going to get hurt.
______________________________________________________________
"YOU COULD'VE GOTTEN YOUR SELF KILLED, AGAIN Y/N"
"I THINK I'M AWARE OF WHO AND WHAT I CAN HANDLE BUCK, IVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS" you screamed back annoyed that once again you were being yelled at for doing your job.
While Bucky was in one part of the base looking for the enhanced, you found a secret room with 5 of hydras agents standing inside. You know you could handle them on your own, you've dealt with far worse. Little did you know one of the agents had the same ability as The Winter Soldier, needless to say if it wasn't for buck coming in to save your ass you probably wouldn't be standing here having this argument with him.
Trying to calm yourself down you spoke softer "I didn't know one of them was enhanced, if i did i would've waited for you, but you were preoccupied and i thought i could handle it. I also didn't realize my powers wouldn't have an effect on him"
"This is why i hate working missions with you, you always jump the gun without thinking and i have to swoop in and save your ass" he wasn't yelling anymore but his tone was still harsh, he walked away from you going to his room
"Buck im sorry ok, i haven't been on a mission in a while and i got excited" you spoke not knowing if he could even hear you anymore. Sighing you walked into your room shutting the door and changing out of your clothes. Seeing as you only packed enough clothes for three maybe four days, you had to use the close left by the last person who stayed, by the looks of it, it was Nat. You couldn't understand why Bucky was so mad at you, you completed the mission and now you could both go home. Grabbing some of Nats clothes you decided to take a shower and get all of the sweat and dried blood off of you.
"Steve i don't know what to do, she could've gotten herself killed today"
Stepping out of the bathroom you could here Bucky talking on the phone, you knew you probably shouldn't be listening to him but whats the harm.
"I'm not in love with her shut up, i mean i might be but-" Steve must've cut him off
"You think?" "but how do i tell her i mean, why would she even like me, i'm a monster Steve"
You got so into the conversation and didnt realize you were holding onto the doorknob so when you leaned forward trying to hear better you ended up slamming the door shut causing Bucky to jump and look over at you. "uh Steve ill call you later" he hung up the phone throwing it on his bed.
"uh just wanted to let you know the showers open, there's still hot water"
Grabbing his clothes he pushed by ducking his head and whispered a quick "thanks" before walking into the bathroom.
You stood in the same place for what felt like hours before opening the door to your room. Closing the door behind you, leaning against it trying to comprehend what just happened. Did Bucky really just say he was in love with you, well he said it to Steve. That same feeling in the pit of your stomach came back, you groaned sliding down the door. Did this mean Bucky felt the same way about you that you did about him, or was this some kind of sick joke he was playing on you. If this was some sick prank, you decided you were going to have some fun, and if it wasn't oh well. You still refused to admit your feelings. You went along with your plan because why the hell not. Looking through the dresser you tried to find the something that was sexy but not too obviously sexy. You settled for a over sized red sweater that went down just below your butt, you put on a pair of black knee high socks and black lace panties.
You sat on the couch on your  computer trying to find a movie when Bucky exited the bathroom and went back into his room. Time for your little plan to start, you got up and walked over to Bucks room, leaning against the doorway "wanna come watch a movie, its our last day here and i thought we could end on a good note"
He looked you up and down, damp hair sticking to his face "yeah, if u wanna"
"Yay!"You squealed running over to grab his hand and drag him out to the living room. It felt like electricity ran straight trough his body the second you grabbed his hand he never wanted you to let go, but as soon as you got to the couch that's exactly what you did. After making Bucky sit down and promise to watch you started the movie, "Oh don't tell me this is a movie about different shades of grey" you laughed fully knowing what this movie actually was, pulling your legs up on the couch you put them over his lap. You've never seen someone act so flustered over a simple gesture. Boy was this going to be fun.
You could pinpoint the exact moment when buck figured out what this movie actually was, his whole demeanor changed and you could practically see his heart beating out of his chest. You had kept moving your legs around in his lap which made him hold your legs down on his lap to make you stop, pleading for you to stop. You were definitely getting messing with his poor brain.
Bucky could feel your eyes burning into his skull for what felt like hours, he had figured out by now that you were playing a little game with him, and this movie had given him all sorts of ideas for future reference. He decided to play along with you, without moving his eyes from the screen he moved his hands further up your legs, no longer resting on the fabric of your knee highs. You tried to hide as your breath hitched in your throat as his hands made their way under your sweater and rested on your thighs. Their was no way in hell that he was going to win the game that you started. You moved your legs back closer to you, crossing them, making sure they dragged along his lap and over his now obvious bulge. You weren't seated like that for more than 30 seconds before he grabbed you and pulled you into his lap, grabbing your ass causing a small moan to escape from your lips.
Bucky had the biggest smirk on his face, fully knowing what hes doing to you. Straddling him you sunk your hips down, grinding against him slow, earning a deep growl from his throat. He grabbed onto your hips and guided your core along him, you grabbed onto his hair and tugged on it this time earning a soft moan. For the first time since standing in his door way, you looked each other in the eye, his once blue eyes were now dark and full of need. Within seconds Bucky had pinned you underneath him, snaking your legs around his waist you tangled your hands around his neck and in his hair. One of his hands still digging into your hip, the other one tangled in your hair as he pressed rough kisses along your jaw line, down your neck earning light moans as he sucked on the sensitive skin near your collarbone. Coming back up from your neck he finally placed a rough kiss on your lips, sliding his tough along the bottom of your lip begging for entrance, you smiled into the kiss granting him the access he needed, teeth clashing together as your tongues danced in your mouth . He pulled away from you and ripped his shirt off his body, throwing it to the side. Helping you with your sweater, smirking as he found out all you had on under was a pair of black lace panties. and those knee highs. "You're so perfect" He moaned coming back down to kiss you again.
You wrapped your legs back around his waist as he picked you up and carried you to his room. Bucky laid you down on the bed and looked at you like it was the first time he ever saw a womens body. Starting to feel self conscious you moved your arms to cover your bare chest, before you could he stopped you "Stop it. you're so fucking beautiful y/n". Hovering over you he leaned down until his face was inches from yours kissing you softy, putting a hand on his cheek you looked up at him, seeing those blue eyes of his on you like that made you melt.
He kissed you again this time more roughly moving down towards your neck sucking on the soft skin leaving light bruises. Trailing kisses further down over your breasts and stomach before making it to your core, he moved to the inside of your thighs teasing you, rubbing them gently with his rough hands, his metal one cooling you down instantly. He looked up at you with his hands on your thighs, you gave him a nod wanting nothing more than for him to continue. He took his metal hand and rubbed it over your clothed core, causing a small gasp to escape your mouth from the cold touch. He loved the effect he had on you, the metal arm was an obvious turn on he used to his advantage. He teased you through your panties with his metal fingers earning a different sound from you each time he moved them a different way.
"B-bucky please" you whimpered earning a smirk from him, you arched your back allowing him to remove your now soaked panties "I wonder if your always this wet when i'm around" he grinned at you throwing them across the room. He leaned over you looked you in the eyes again planting another harsh kiss on your lips, before moving back down to get to work. His tongue working like magic, having you come undone at the seams the second he touched you. Sucking on you clit he added a single metal finger causing you to buck your hips  towards him"So fucking eager kitten" his words only making you wetter and more desperate by the second. Without warning he added two more fingers, curling them so they would hit that sweet spot, pumping them at the perfect speed."f-fuck b-bucky" you hadn't been with anyone for a long time and he was completely destroying you.
He grabs your legs and throws them over his shoulders giving him more access to what he want and what you need, your heels digging into his back trying desperately not to close your legs at the sensations. "I'm close, buck p-please" your a whimpering mess under his touch and he knows it ,so close to the edge, seconds away and he stops. Looking up at him with pleading eyes, "Dont worry kitten i'm not done with you yet" You hadn't realized he removed his sweats and boxers, looking at him now holy fuck he was gorgeous, he was definitely blessed in every department. With your legs hooked around his waist, he started teasing you again with his metal hand and sucking on your neck "Buck please, stop teasing"
he chuckled teasing your entrance "tell me what you want doll"
"Bucky just fuck me" growing impatient you try to buck your hips up to him
Holding your hips down with his flesh hand "That's not how you ask nicely, doll"
"James, please fuck me"
He slammed into you unexpectedly causing you to practically scream his name. He never knew that you saying his real name in the manner you did would have such an effect on him but oh it did. Gripping your hips roughly, he slammed into you at fast pace "Fuck, You're so tight" Your hands trailed down his back and grabbed onto his ass pushing him deeper inside of you earning the loudest growl you've heard out of him.
You gained control of him now straddling him, sliding down on his cock at a painfully slow pace. He held your hips, guiding you against him, moving so your clit rubbed up against him, giving you much needed friction.Taking his metal hand he played with one of your nipples pinching in, taking the other in his mouth, swirling his tongue around. The room was filled with your soft whimpers and his rough grunts.
He flipped you back over, spreading your legs even further apart, pushing deeper into you at a more desperate pace. You could feel his thrusts starting to become sloppy, you hooked your legs around his shoulders letting him fuck you even deeper "Fuck, y/n" You dug your nails deep into his back, definitely leaving marks. Near pornographic moans left your mouth as bucky continued his hard thrusts, he put his flesh hand around your neck as his metal one reached down to rub your clit.
"God Bucky i'm close" He tightened his grip around your throat, all that could escape your mouth was whimpers. "Cum for me" his breath hot against your ear, sending you over the edge, closing your eyes your nails and heels dug into Buckys back, feeling it hit you like shock waves you at full force. Bucky nuzzled his head into the crook of your neck, all you could ear were the deep moans escaping his mouth. You felt Bucky pulse and release in side of you, thrusting your hips upwards once more earning a staggered breath in response.
He fell against you not minding the weight, as you both tried to catch your breath. Bucky rolled off of you and went to get to get a wet cloth from the bathroom to clean you both up, you were definitely going to be sore in the morning, he came back and cleaned himself off of you. Throwing the towel in a basket he crawled into bed with you and under the covers, you turned to lay on your side and looked up at him "Was this like a one time thing or" You hated to admit it but you were falling in love with him, if this really was a one stand it would break your heart.
He looked down at you wrapping his arm around you pulling you close, "If you want it to be then it can be, but i was hoping it was more" You could feel his heart jumping out of his chest, you knew he was scared to show his feelings but the way he looked at right then, you truly knew that he did love you. Leaning down he pressed a passionate kiss on your lips, both of you smiling in the middle of it. It didn't take the two of you long to fall asleep, for the first time in a while, you didn't need any extra blankets, all you needed was him. Maybe Nat was right, maybe this mission was a good thing.
You woke up the next morning with a pain between you legs, Bucky was by far the largest guy that you've slept with and it was showing. Groaning you rolled over wanting nothing more than for him to wrap his arms around you and pull you in close, but all you found was messy sheets and a cold bed. Rolling out of bed you threw on his black shirt from last night, the fabric falling like a dress coming down just below your butt. You went looking for a hair tie in the bed side table when you found something far more interesting, it looked like one of Steves sketchbooks but smaller than the ones he normally carried around, Picking it up you flipped through the pages. What you saw made your heart flutter, it wasn't Steves drawing pad it was Buckys and damn was he good. His drawing style is the same as steves, he must've taught him how to draw. But that wasn't what made your heart flutter, the cause of that was almost all of the drawings were of you always at a distace, one of them even brought you back to the day. It was one of you sitting outside by the pool at the compound, even Sam and Steve were drawn in. You flipped to the newest page and found an uncompleted drawing, it didn't click at first but the more you looked at it the more you realized that it was of you asleep in his bed, a little blurb was written in the corner
I never thought this day would come where you would be sleeping naked in bed next to me
I think im in love with you.
You couldn't help a little giggle that escaped your lips, this guy who always acted so tough and rough is actually just some big teddy bear. You set the pad back into the drawer and decided to wander out into the kitchen to see if there was anything left to eat, knowing full well that you left one of your favorite protein bars in a cabinet. You were exhausted and didn't even bother picking your head up as you said good morning to buck, You stood on your tippy toes, causing your shirt to ride up a little too high, Hearing Bucky clear his throat behind you only made you chuckle. Turning around ready to tease the poor man again"What ready for roun-" you froze in place, every word in your mind turned to mush. It wasn't Bucky that cleared his throat, it was actually Tony Stark sitting there with a shit eating grin on his face, standing next to him was none other than Natasha and Steve. Steve giving Bucky one of those looks, and Nat looked at you with the biggest smirk on her face.
"So um Bucky, tell me again about those marks on your neck, What'd you say they were from? " Clearly Tony was about to have way to much fun.
"Well Steve it looks like our evil plan worked" Natasha said nudging him in the side with her elbow
"what?" You and buck said in unison, you still hadn't moved a muscle, buck was now at your side draping a blanket over your shoulders
Natasha continued "You see, me and ole Steve had a small bet going, Sam and Clint were in on it too. I bet that if we sent you away on some remote mission together, forcing you to talk, you two would finally hook up, or at least resolve whatever was going on. It looks like Steve and Clint owe me and Sam some money"
"I had no part of this" Tony piped in hands up in the air defensively, "But goddamn was this a good surprise" he walked towards the door letting himself out, going back to the quinjet.
Laughing you asked "How much money did you all bet?"
" 200 dollars" Steve sighed, putting his hand to his temple in defeat
Bucky started chuckling "Oh my god, you guys are ridiculous"
______________________________________________________________
The whole ride home Nat pestered you with questions, Who started it? Was it good, Was it a one time thing? and a million others, at this point you toned her out and were watching Bucky talk to Steve. That man had smiled more in the past couple days than he had the entire time you knew him, thinking like that just made your heart race, you knew you were the cause of his happiness.
After a few hours you arrived back home at the compound all you wanted was a good night sleep in your own bed maybe not alone this time. You and Buck carried your bags down the hallway, sharing occasional glances and smirks, you could feel it in your heart that this was meant to be.
You sat in the living room talking to Wanda and Vision, as they had just comeback from their vacation the same day as you. You played with the ball of fire in your hands, almost throwing it in the air when you heard Sam scream down the hall "HA YES I KNEW IT, I KNEW YOU TWO WOULD BANG,I KNEW BEFORE ANYONE,I CALLED IT wheres Barton and Rogers they owe me some money" Well it looks like Sam found out that he won the bet.  Before you could explain anything, Wanda and Vision told you that they knew about it too, everyone did but no one else participated in the bet.
Bucky came around the corner and squeezed himself onto the couch cushion beside you, he pulled your legs up to rest over his lap and put his arm around you. Still playing with the fire ball in your hands, you threw it into the fire place in front of you, instantly warming up the room. You sat there watching everyone around you laughing, drinking having fun, no ones fighting, theirs no dumb bickering between you and Bucky now theirs only mocking each other before stealing a kiss.  You realized that maybe this is how its supposed to be, everyone happy and together You with Bucky Barnes. You and the Winter Soldier. The Phoenix and The Winter Soldier, maybe opposites really do attract

-Elementary school, 5th grade, January of 2010-
“Hey? Who’s the new kid?”
Logan didn’t bother to look up from his book. “And you expect me to have this knowledge?” Roman shrugged. “I dono. He’s quiet like you.” Logan scoffed at this. “I am not quiet. I speak quite often.” Roman rolled his eyes. “Fair... Actually speaking of that, the new guy hasn’t talked once. Not even when he was asked to introduce himself yesterday. Just pulled his hood up and it stayed like that all day.” Logan glanced at the new shadow in the corner of the class. “He’s looking at us you know. You could just talk to him instead of discussing him with me.”
Romans’ head snapped up to meet the figures heterochromic eyes. He quickly looked back at his desk and Roman turned back to Logan. “You know what? I’m just gonna say hi.” Logan finally looked up from his book properly. “I couldn’t have thought of a better plan. You are a true genius Roman.” Roman held back a laugh. “Yeah yeah. I know it was your idea.”
Roman approached the desk in the corner with the figure and posed dramatically. “Hello there! My name is Roman! I couldn’t help but notice your keen interest in our conversation.” The figure held up a hand in a jester to wait and opened a black notebook with a big storm cloud on the front. He flipped through the pages filled with words and stopped at the first blank page he reached. He grabbed a pen from beside him and began to write.
“I couldn’t help but notice your keen interest in my presence.”
They turned the notebook so Roman could read it. He chuckled and waved a hand in dismissal. “Touchè. What’s your name, dark one?” They tapped the pen against their notebook nervously before writing, “I go by Virgil. I like that name better though.” Roman smiled and extended his hand dramatically. “Well then Virgil, Lord Of Darkness...” He rolled his tongue at Virgil’s name. “Would you care to join me and my friends? The professor shouldn’t be in for another ten minutes or so!” Virgil pointed at Logan curiously. Roman nodded in confirmation. “Yeah that’s one of them. The others will be coming in soon! What do you say?”
Virgil played with his hoodie sleeves and nodded. Roman pulled him up out of his seat and Virgil barely had time to grab his notebook and pen before being pulled away. Logan looked up from his book at the slam of Romans hand against his desk. “Salutations Roman... and...?” Virgil opened back up his notebook and pointed to his name. Logan put his own book down and extended his hand. “Nice to meet you Virgil. I apologize for our conversation about you right in front of you.”

“Oh Ur-sulk-ula!” Virgil rolled his eyes and looked up from the couch. Roman loomed over him with a mischievous grin. “You know what today is?” Virgil pulled his phone out of his pocket and opened the notes app. There he typed, “It is Wednesday my dudes.” Roman chuckled at the reference. “Okay yes. I’m meaning what do we have to do today?” Virgil’s mind began to race. What was he forgetting? What was going on? Was he in trouble? Would his other roommates insult hi-
“Calm down there Meanie in the Lamp.. I can see worry painted all over that white foundation. Today is our day off!” Seemingly on cue Patton opened the door and he walked in with Logan, talking about some sort of animal. Roman ignored them. “Today Patton planned the board game day! I hope you got your game ready because I’m about to crush you!”
Virgi sneered and typed into his notes quickly, “Bring it on Fairy-fail Prince.” Roman gasped and held a hand to his chest. “You wound me emo!” Patton tisked at them. “Virgil, inform Roman that you’re-” Patton held up a board game labeled “SORRY!” Virgil snickered while Logan acted as if he was insulted. Patton’s smile traveled over to him. “Oh come on Logan! You know making dad jokes is my-” Patton now held up a board game labeled “LIFE!” Both Roman and Virgil broke out laughing while Logan visibly cringed.
Patton looked down at Virgil on the couch. “What game did you pick?” Virgil typed in “That’s a surprise for the end of the day.” Roman laughed. “I bet your game is not nearly as glamorous as mine.” Virgil rolled his eyes amused. They would just have to wait and see.

-High school, 10th grade, April of 2015-
“MY DAUGHTER SHOULDN’T BE DISADVANTAGED LIKE THIS!!!”
“Mrs. Nix, I assure you that we were unaware. Your daughter claimed she was male so we treated her as such. I do not see why she couldn’t identify as one but if you say she was lying for attention and truly isn’t trans, I will make sure her teachers know.”
“WE WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS!”
Patton looked to the open office door next to his locker. Something was going on in there and it wasn’t pretty. He finished putting away his school stuff and curiosly peered in. There were three people Mr. Sanders or the principal, a tall and frightening woman, and... Virgil? Virgil’s hood was over his face and his sleeves were pulled up over his hands. He was visibly panicking and nobody had noticed.
The tall woman glared at Mr. Sanders and slammed her hands into the table. “IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN I WILL PERSONALLY ASSURE YOU THAT THIS ENTIRE SCHOOL WILL BE SHUT DOWN!! Veronica, Go to your class unless you have something to say on the- I’m not reading some words out of your dumb notebook. You can speak just fine.” Virgil put his notebook away and got up to leave the room.
He almost got out the door before he realized Patton was standing right in front of him. The two adults didn’t seem to notice them. Patton glanced at them to make sure before tucking Virgil under his arm and leading him away.
They walked down a few halls and came to a taped off classroom. Stepping inside, Patton sat Virgil down. “Hey Virge... you doing alright? Think you can write for me what happened or are you too panicked?” Virgil curled his knees up to his chest and nodded. He slowly opened his bag and took out the notebook (which had a blank page bookmarked) and a pencil. “My mother just interveining intervening with the school. I just messed up is all.”
Patton read over the page and sat down beside Virgil. “Well... even if you messed up... I’m sure it’s not that bad! If you tell me what happened then I’m sure we can work it out!” Virgil nodded and stared at the paper for a few minutes, seemingly trying to write with his eyes. Eventually, with the help of Patton rubbing his back, Virgil picked the pencil back up.
“My mom hates that I’m trans. She claims it’s a made up thing and I’m lying to spite her and make her look bad, that being trans isn’t real and I will always be female. I messed up when I went to my dads for the weekend and asked for surgery to make me... less feminine. My dad was on board but my mom wasn’t. I should have just stayed quiet.”
Virgil barely finished writing his last sentence before Patton barreled into him with a hug. He almost fell onto his other side but caught himself, returning the hug as soon as he could sit back up. They hugged quietly, barely feeling the passage of time.
Patton eventually forced himself out of the hug but immediately took both of Virgil’s hands. “Virgil... Your mom is either going to have to accept who you are or she is going to have to suffer silently. I will not allow her to hurt you like this. You are allowed to be whoever you want to be. She has no say in who you are. The only person who has a say is you. We should go tell Mr. Sanders though.” Virgil nodded and immediately pulled himself back into a hug with Patton. Once again they sat silently.
Everything else could wait. For now this was all Virgil needed.

Evening came by quickly, too quickly for Virgil’s taste. Patton looked up from the Monopoly box as he shoved the lid back on. “So what game next? Oh! Virgil what about your game?”
Virgil’s head snapped up and he smiled nervously. Patton’s expression changed to the worried look of a parent. “It’s alright Virge. I’m sure we’ll love it.” Virgil nodded his head and moved to the floor. He dragged out a box from under the couch that he set on the table. A hush fell on the room as everyone stared at it. There in bright white words across the box read “Taboo, The Game of Unspeakable Fun”
Logan was the first to speak up. “Virgil... Do you know the rules of Taboo?” Virgil smile grew bigger with nervousness. Roman looked around. “I don’t? What could be so bad about it?” The room was quiet for a few more moments before Patton answered his question. “You have to speak in order for the game to work.” Roman looked back at Virgil in shock. “What?!? You picked a game you can’t play?”
Everyone turned to Virgil searching for some kind of answer. Virgil took careful, deep breaths and closed his eyes. After multiple breaths he opened his eyes and quietly replied aloud, “I feel safe enough to speak around you all now.”
Patton squealed and went around the table to hug Virgil. “OH MY GOODNESS! VIRGIL THAT’S- YOU ACTUALLY SPOKE!” Logan sat strait up while Roman put a hand over his own mouth. Patton started crying and laughing, burying his face into Virgil’s hoodie, who returned the hug back slowly as a grin spread across his face. “Yeah... I did.” Patton hugged him even harder at the end of his second sentence, so hard it looked painful. If it was then Virgil didn’t react.
Roman got up from his spot and wrapped his arms around Virgil, lying his head on the emos purple hair. Logan wasn’t far behind in the hug pile. They didn’t dare move for a long while, happy to finally hear their best friend voice himself.
