#the poor lost demigod is confused
Text
Do any of you ever wonder if Camp Half-Blood accidentally brought in a demigod of a different pantheon before?
This would be especially hilarious if it happens sometime after The Last Olympian/Heroes of Olympus, where the gods are required to claim their kids quickly.
A whole day passes, and the new demigod needs to sleep in the Hermes Cabin and Percy is furious. Meanwhile, the Greek Gods are pointing at each other and shouting, contacting the most obscure of mini gods. Chaos erupts on Olympus as every deity in Greek Mythology is called upon and interrogated. Hermes hasn't run around so much in centuries.
Hecate sits in silence, fully aware of what's happening, but enjoying the show too much to intervene.

Could you write Clarisse La Rue x Fem Poseidon, where the reader is also a forbidden daughter like Percy?
Rises the moon
Tumblr media
Clarisse la rue x fem!reader (posseidon's kid)
Summary: when your new sibling gets claimed, you cannot sleep, thank Gods Clarisse cares enough, or too much.
Warnings: none really, but fluff, comfort, clarisse being sweet, life crisis
(Again, i did not rewied it, and it is probably mediocre, but we love our girl clarisse)
That was a moment of rare peace.
It mas the middle of the night, everyone was sleeping, and i had escaped for a quick swim.
The truth is that i couldnt sleep, some days ago, a little boy arrived at camp, poor kid, his eyes had such sadness, lost the only family he had, and just as every newly found demigod, he was confused.
And then, he is my brother, his claim was fast, like a clean cut, but to me it felt like ages, i was watching the trident appear on his head in slow motion, and every tought came to me, specially because i knew, i knew the feeling, i knew the pain, i knew the revolt.
And oh how i felt it all again, not only my father was fucking my life, our life, he was making it 11 times worst, no gods would like the fact that there is now 2 forbidden children, it was unsafe, and now we were unsafe.
"Sneaking out are we?"
I turned around with such speed i almost got dizzy.
"Clarisse! You scared me"
I half whisper, she was standing on the pier next to me, with her hair in a low ponytail, some old soft shorts and a oversided worn of shirt, simple, but so beautiful in my eyes.
"Why are you whispering? We are alone"
"I was trying not to get caught"
"And how exactly is that going for you?- wait you're swimming in your underwear?
Clarisse squinted her eyes trying to see me inside the water.
"...I was going to wake percy up if i opened the drawers to search my bikinis and went changing, besides, Posseidon kid, i can get dry in a second."
And before she could do what i tought she would, insult percy, i said:
"...do you want to join me?"
"Can you dry me too?"
She smiles while taking her shoes off.
"I can try"
I say, turning my back to her while she took the rest of her clothes off.
Seconds later i feel her getting into the water, more seconds later, i feel her hands on my shoulders, compared to my own skin, her's was hot
"You can turn around now..."
She looked even more beautiful in the moonlight, smiling shyly, glowing togheter with the water.
I hold her hand, those hands who made many fall to the ground everyday, those hands made me calm, reminded me of myself, that i was alive, that i was okay.
The way she always pressed the middle of my palm whenever i was nervous made come back to reality everytime.
How could that she, so mean, with a heavy presence, always made me feel light?
Like i was eternally into water, letting the flow take me wherever, so so happy.
I layed my head on her shoulder, letting myself be hugged, be light again.
"Are you alright? Do you want to talk about it? Hm?"
"Tomorrow...for now, can you just hug me?"
She didnt answered, but i could feel, her arms tightening, and a quick kiss on my forehead.
I was all so beautiful.

I literally rushed when I was it was ticket time
So I've had this idea in my head for a few weeks and I wanna request it. Apollo x immortal reader, but he didn't know they were immortal. Like, he thought they died 500 years ago (because they were mortal beforehand), and they were his lover before they 'died', but he finds out they're alive and were given immortality, but they were too ashamed to tell him by the time they were given immortality. Maybe angst to fluff?
Apollo doesn't cry often. Once, when he lost you and sometimes when he wants to guilt-trip his sister but most of the time choked sobs stay choked until he can swallow them. He doesn't believe in that endophin-releasing mumbo jumbo humans talk about, because crying is embarrassing and unmanly.
533 days since he last cried (and now Uno isn't allowed in Olympus) and it's all gone because here you are, an unfamiliar glow about you as a gaggle of demigods chat with you. He wonders if accompanying them on their journey to meet this new, beautiful goddess was worth it and then you look up and meet his eyes... and it is. It's worth every tear that springs forth, every vocal rasp as he approaches you in confusion.
It's worth the judgmental gazes the half-bloods eye him with as he sinks into your embrace as soon as you spend your arms. Excusing both yourself and Apollo, you gently guide him away from the group that begins pretending to discuss your gracious strategy and unwrap his linked arms from your neck.
"Apollo.." You start, wincing as a shiny tear reflects your horribly impassive face.
"Where did you go?" He sounds more confused and hurt than you've ever heard him.
"I.. it's a long story."
"I've got all the time in the world, and you do too apparently." Even 500 years later in a devestated state, he's the same quick-witted Apollo he's always been. It makes you ache more, wondering how you could ever tell him about the times you stood by an alter of his and hesitated to call upon him.
"You know I couldn't stay there. I had to leave." You offer weakly, the words crumbling beneath his frustrated furrowed brows.
"Everyone thought you had died. You were told to have flung yourself off a cliff! I talked to you just that morning, begged you to marry me and desert that forsaken place and you said you couldn't."
Your hand finds his face and maybe it's because it's your face miserably gazing at him as the polished, perfected and inhuman object touches him but it offends and weakens him. He jerks away from your soft fingers, missing it immediately but holding his ground with a harsh frown.
"I couldn't.. I couldn't do that to you, Pol. You were Lord Apollo and I was your mortal embarrassment, tolerated because of my eventual death. I couldn't let you ruin what you had built for a poor peasant you'd inevitably get bored of."
"But you can't decide that for me!" And it's the way his voice breaks as his eyes plead for you to understand in their bulging, needy way that makes your eyes begin to water too.
"Apo-"
"No!" He's angry, he hates you for stealing what you could have been from him and he hates himself for believing the humans instead of searching until dawn forced his exhausted body to the sky. And he hates how badly he wants your gentle, smoothed palms on his soaked cheeks again, no matter their lack of your personality and hard work. "No! You were my.. my love, I needed you more than I ever needed validation."
You see a demigod make a face at that out of the corner of your eye and if you hadn't witnessed the pitiful mess he'd been when you rejected him for the third time, you might've had a similar reaction.
But you could feel it, deep in your soul that his was speaking directly to you. Maybe being a god did that, made you understand when someone's soul flowed through their tongue.
"I'm sorry." It sounds feeble only because so much more needs to be said, not because you don't mean it. The softer drag of his eyelids tells you he feels it too. "I never stopped loving you, I just couldn't burden you any longer."
Apollo embraced you then, fast and heated and tight. His curls rubbed your shoulder as his nose dug into your collarbone. "I want you to burden me for the rest of our lives. Burden me. Please."
He was not so subtly begging for you to love him again, and how easy it was for your heart to find the beat his sung to and dance in perfect rhythm.

Zeus being like "we need to kill our living children because prophecy" and Hades is just "fuck you" and defies Nico and Bianca instead. Bianca is seething when she sees little Percy, Annabeth, and Grover sneak into the Underworld. She's spent way too much time with Zagreus.
But Nico is curious. He thinks the little heroes are cute. Watches them succeed to get around Cerberus. Watches one of them suddenly flying towards the pit. The other two are panicking.
Poor kids, he thinks, and he touches down in front of them. Catches the satyr with one hand. He yanks away, determined to get to the pit but Nico is an unmoving as a dead man. Just stuck to the ground and peeling off his wild shoes with ease. The satyr is lowered gently to the ground. Nico melts the shoes into shadows.
"You look hungry," he says.
They all stare at him. Then scamper into a little clustered triad. The girl nudges the boy and he huffs before clearing his throat.
"Um, Lord Hades-"
Nico's lip twitches. "I am not my father, little demigod. Do you wish to speak with him?" The boy's soul is untamed waves and a hurricane. "Ah. My cousin." He pauses. Gives it a think. "Perseus, right?"
The kid goes a little pink around his cheeks. Flushes down to throat and up through his ears. "Uh, yeah. Um. It's Percy." He blinks. Clears his throat. "Percy Jackson."
Nico thinks about it. "I think I'll just say Perseus, if you don't mind. I quite like it as a name. Strong. Heroic."
"Yeah, sure," Percy says quickly. His soul is a sea of panic. Tinged red around its edges. Tastes syrupy sweet at the back of Nico's throat. "You- I-"
The girl saves him. "We would like to seek an audience with Lord Hades. If we can." After a beat, she tacks on a tinny, "Please."
"Annabeth Chase," Nico says. She stiffens, eyes going big. "Athena's child." He glances over to the satyr. "Grover Underwood. Cute name. Fits you." Grover stammers before thanking him quietly. "My sister is with my father now. I'll see if I can steer her away. She's not always the best company to have when speaking with Papa. Especially with what is going on now."
The kids twitch and he stifles the urge to giggle.
The ground melts beneath them. They gasp aloud as earth turns to obsidian tile. His room is clean and tidy. Filled to the brim with silly junk throughout history. Trinkets and toys he's picked up from his travels too.
"You can wait here," he says. And he disappears without another word.
It takes longer than it should, to steer Bianca out of the way. Hades is no help. Bemused all the while. Nico tries to get him to take a nicer stance, but he's stubborn. Normally so is Nico, but he can't imagine the trio in his bedroom are taking his absence easily, so he caves and let's his father being as intimidating as he wants.
Personally, Nico can't see it. His father is his father. Whether he's twenty-feet tall with black eyes and a crown of nightmares, or six foot six with warm hands and smiles.
"Be nice, Papa," he says as he guides the children into the throne room.
Hades grunts and glares down at his nephew. Nico sighs and stands in the back. They are children. Perhaps if they were older he'd care less. But he remembers what it is to be twelve years old and staring at a god that wished you were dead an unbreathing.
It is haunting and hurting.
They speak and it's confusing. The children are lost with every word his father speaks. His father is getting more and more annoyed with every word they speak.
No one is lying, but no one has the reality of the situation at hand. Nico strides forwards, out of the shadows. Hades's eyes are angry, but he quiets. He does not like to shout in front of Nico. Not when the anger rockets back at Nico's soul like a mirror and leaves him winded. The trio goes silent.
He slides his hands through the flimsy material of the backpack. Electricity crackles at his skin. He flinches and steps back.
Percy is confused. His soul is a crashing thing, drowning his mind in panic untold. Annabeth is horrified. Her soul is sputtering. There is no logic to this. No facts to back up what she has discovered. She is unsure, for the first time in her life. Grover is on the verge of fainting.
"He didn't know," Nico says. "None of them did."
Hades scoffs, but let's Nico flip through the pages of their souls like a history book. Ares and the backpack. But that is not possible. He cannot touch his father's bolt, or Hades's helm. Not without permission and certainly not with his own bare hands. Further back, there is a face. Scarred and angry. He is giving Percy the shoes.
Grover takes them when his back is turned.
Smart creature, Nico thinks.
He lets goes and the trio breathes.
"There is a boy," he says. "I'll need to look at him, but I feel he has orchestrated this mess."
Hades's lips curl. He is unhappy. He wanted to blast his nephew to pieces and lock the others up for their troubles in bringing him along.
"You have got to stop talking to Bianca," Nico huffs. "Give me a day. I will head to camp-"
"No," Hades says.
Everything topples downhill. The Furies descend. Skeletons take charge. Shadows whip and hiss like volatile snakes.
Nico blinks and they are gone. Sunny grass, untouched by darkness. There's the crashing of the waves behind him. The kids are gasping. Nico steadies their ever-changing souls, collisions of nauseous colours.
"My mom," Percy gasps. His voice is on the edge of tears.
Nico stares at him. Then presses a cold hand to his shoulder. "She will be fine. My father knows what it is to have a mother lost to their child. She is a guest, although unwilling. No harm shall come to her."
"How-" Annabeth presses small hands to her face. "The bolt- how-"
"Luke Castellan," Nico says. "Is he a kind boy?"
Annabeth twitches, stares up at him, frustrated, confused. Grover answers in her stead. "He's a good person."
"Hmm." Nico turns to see his cousin waiting for them on the sand. "Even good people can be turned to do terrible things. Many people do terrible things in the name of good."
Percys soul gardens when he catches sight of their shared cousin. Ares's demeanour does nothing for Nico. But it fills the crevices of Percy's misery with boiling rage. Nico squeezes along his shoulder. Mats his soul with a softening quell.
"Breathe," he says. Ares approaches. Too calm. Too steady. The people around him scatter with every step. "Ares, you are an idiot." Dreams are awash in his soul. He is faintly pressed behind a matte wall. He laughs, carefree, amused. But behind that wall, his truer self is screaming. "I much prefer it when my sisters bully you. Rather than whoever is doing so now. Did you not notice the memories in your head turned awry?"
He scoffs. They banter. Nico lets Percy, angry and distressed at being played with, take the fight. He remembers the ways he wished his father would let him knock their family down a peg. When his siblings were blasted apart miles away in another state. His mother electrocuted and turned to ash in front of his very eyes.
As Ares lay panting on the sand, Nico takes a hold of his soul and clears the wall away.
"Next time stay vigilant. What would your mother think of you working with her father in this way?" He flicks the other god's forehead and watches him rocket down into the earth. The kids stare at him. Awed. Confused. Percy is wet and breathing hard, pink around his ears.
"You should return the bolt," Nico says. The wind sweeps. "In the meantime, this prophecy has waited far too long to pass." He sighs. "It should've been me. Or my sister. Someone long before your time, Perseus."
Nico pats his head and he squeaks. It's adorable.
"I will assist where I can," he says. He presses a token into Percy's hand. The other two jolt as similiar beads tuck into the flat of their palms. "Just give me a call."
The earth gives out beneath their feet and they disappear into sand and darkness. Nico runs his wrists over one another and glances up to the mortals pooling around the beach. Police officers looking mystified at the sudden absence of the two players in their so-called gun fight.
He will string a tale into their cores, a belief so certain no one can dash it away. And then he will retire to his father's side just as he did when he was ten years old, the stains of his mother's death lingering on his skin.
Certainly the three of them will make use of his tokens in due time. He will wait for them to do so.
And then he will help.

I've been scrolling though your blog and I just have to say that your Luke Skywalker takes are so right and you should say it. He IS a desert rat he does NOT know what a normal amount of danger and risk is and he IS going to make that everyone else's problem.
Tbh the mischaracterization recently reminds me of superman's. In the movies, Supes has been characterized as an unfeeling godlike deity so detached from humanity that he only does good because he has to, and Luke has been characterized as too cowardly and soft to actually use his powers for evil.
But at their core, they're quite different from that characterizion - both are farmboy hicks, and both are insanely powerful characters who are overwhelmingly good. It's the contrast between that humanity, the power, and the uncorruptability that makes them, them. Absolute power might absolutely corrupt, but not these guys. They remain human while being almost inhuman in their ideals.
It's like people can't portray moral powerful characters without giving them a caveat of some sort - Supes lost his humanity, and Luke lost his power (and arguably, his characterization as a hero along with it). Heroes can be good without a constant internal conflict or a major character flaw! You don't have to make them poor little meow meows, or infantilise them. These characters are interesting *because* they choose to be good again and again despite all odds, despite the power they hold, while still retaining their humanity.
Not to say that you can't corrupt them, or give them any conflict, but some seem to just mistake Luke's gentleness for weakness, or plain cowardice. No bitch!! He'll obliterate you in an instant if he thinks it's necessary! He's so gentle because he thinks you deserve basic human respect, not because he's a shy little baby!
Sorry for writing a whole essay in your ask box, I might have gone off into a rant. I hope it's coherent at least😅
I agree with everything. Especially since, depending how one wants to interpret canon, Luke is kind of not completely human too. He's 1/4 pure Force. My guy is a demigod or something. Even more similar to Supes, an insanely powerful guy trying to fit in amongst mortals. And I think there's something about how they're both Classic Heroes with this strong and very well defined core of values that people get confused about. Conflict with these types of characters comes when they're faced with situations where they're forced to choose between greater good and personal values. It reminds me too of (idk if you've read PJO) Percy Jackson, a character that's explicitly told "you're going to let the world burn to save one person you care about." Luke is faced with that problem when Vader threatens Leia, he almost goes against everything he believes in, but in the end he chooses not to. And that choice is not a transformation, it's actually a reaffirmation of his core values. Luke is not someone capable of killing his own father. Not because he can't kill, not because he lacks the power, not because Vader doesn't deserve it. But because personal stakes are absolutely critical here. He can kill a random Imperial officer no problem. He can't kill the man who he spent his entire life living up to. He can't kill that part of himself. So he chooses not to do it, saving Vader, himself, and the entire Galaxy in the process.

"Just... Can you help him? I heard you were the best doctor in town." - Nathaniel to Achilles who he didn't know yet, showing up with his latest victim who's almost drained of his blood but not dead yet because Nate caught himself at the last minute
Achilles wasn't in the mood. It was late, he had a long day, and it was pouring rain outside, all he wanted was a drink and sleep as much as possible. So when someone knocked at his door so late at night, he didn't want to answer. He did not answer at first, but the person was insisted, so he had no other choice but open the door.
The demigod wasn't really impressed by what was in front of him. As a doctor, a surgeon, he was used of seeing people bloody or passed out. At first glance, he thought it was just a fight gone wrong, nothing special here, but the more he looked and the more he understood that he was wrong. Looking at the man talking, he could hear distress into his voice, and what looked like fear too. All Achilles did was nodded and opening his door to let the two men come inside.
It's only once the injured man on the table that he saw the extent of his wound. First, the poor man was weak, and cold. Achilles slapped him multiple times to have some reaction from him, but nothing, he was unresponsive. He was still bleeding from his neck, so Achilles applied pressure on it to stop the haemorrhage. The other man was pacing in the room, repeating again and again something, but Achilles wasn't listening to him. Taking the man's pulse, he noticed how slow it was, which wasn't normal.
❛Is he alive? Is he going to be okay?❜ The man asked for the fourth or fifth time maybe, with anxiety in his voice, still pacing in the room. Achilles sighed and rolled his eyes.
❛I don't know yet, I need silence to work. So, can you stop sulking, please?❜
❛I'm not sulking. I'm just... watching.❜
❛Yeah, sure. Well, go watch from afar, I need space.❜
Achilles wasn't in the mood, that was clear, so he wasn't in the mood to be polite. He was never when he was in doctor's mode. While trying to figure out what was wrong with the patient, he finally noticed. The man had been bitten, partially drained of his blood. Frowning, the young man looked at the other man who was still pacing in the room, –visibly he was unable to stay still which was giving Achilles a headache right now– and noticed something he should have notice sooner. He cursed himself for being so slow, although he blamed it on the time of night and his need for sleep. The man was covered in blood, but what was noticeable was the blood all around his mouth. He was the reason the patient was drained of his blood for sure.
❛Your name?❜
❛Hm? Nathaniel...Nate.❜
❛He lost a lot of blood, Nathaniel.❜
❛Can you save him, please? What can we do?❜
❛Hold his hand and see him into the next life.❜
Nathaniel was confused by those words. Finally, he understood their meaning; it was too late. He stopped himself too late, and the man was dying now. Distress came to him as a wave, and he had to control himself to not cry in front of a stranger and a dead man, but he couldn't control his shaking. Without a word, he came closer and did just what Achilles told him; he held the poor man's hand, until he couldn't feel his pulse and he was as cold as ice.
❛Was the feast worth it?❜ Achilles asked suddenly, which surprised Nathaniel. At first, he was puzzled, until the doctor show him his mouth, making him understand about the blood still there.
❛...No, it wasn't...❜ He admitted, his voice full of tears.
He looked away, and Achilles could be sure he was wiping some tears, but he didn't want to ask. The demigod looked at Nathaniel in silence, studying him the best he could. Was he scared? Yes, a little. After all, what happened to that man could potentially happen to him too now. But a part of him told him it wouldn't. Achilles wasn't a stranger to creatures, beasts, or monsters, as a demigod, he saw his share of them, in his past life, right now, he didn't remember any of them. Not even his best friend, who was a werewolf. But deep down, he knew the man wasn't human –which wasn't something bad, himself wasn't human after all. He did not know what he was, though.
Due to some dreams he had, about monsters and all, Achilles researched every species he could, and silently he was trying to find what was the young man. A vampire? Probably. But he knew vampires could save their victim easily by gibing them their blood, which Nathaniel didn't seem able to do, so that wasn't the answer. He was still thinking when Nathaniel stood up, clear his throat and tried to smile.
❛I am sorry I disturbed you for nothing, Doctor.❜
❛Just call me Achilles.❜
❛Alright. I must leave now.❜
❛No.❜ Achilles said, without thinking, which surprised both of them. He did not know why his answer so quickly, and by the negation, when the perfect answer would have been 'yes leave, I don't want to be your next victim.' Truth is, Achilles was intrigued by the man. He wanted to know more about him. A man who seemed remorseful after killing someone couldn't be so bad, could he? Shaking his head, Achilles pointed at the dead man on the table. ❛We need to bury him. I won't do that alone. That should be your burden, not mine. So you take him and I take a shovel.❜
Achilles could tell that Nathaniel wasn't used to be given orders like that, because he did not move at first. He stayed where he was, and it's only when he saw the demigod at the door, with a shovel and his jacket, that he understood that he was serious. The next hour, the two of them did everything to give proper burial to that poor man, before going back to Achilles' house. Back there, he served a glass of bourbon for him and Nathaniel, a glass well deserved.
❛You won't leave the house, not tonight at least.❜ Achilles said, and once again, this surprised both of them.
❛Are you going to give me to the authority for what I did?❜
❛Are you going to kill me if I say yes?❜ Nathaniel was taken aback. As a Prince of the seas, he wasn't used to be talked to like that. But he couldn't really blame him, for Achilles did not know he was a prince, but he doubted that even if he knew it, it would change his language just for him. Achilles shrugged and sighed. ❛What are you exactly?❜
❛... A siren.❜
❛Ah, the vampire of the sea. It was my second guess.❜
❛And you? What are you? You seem to know a lot about others species.❜
❛I'm just curious.❜ Achilles answered with a smile before winking at Nathaniel. ❛You come from far away, I know the sea is at three hours in horse from here. So I can't let you go, I can't risk any more death tonight. Tomorrow I'll bring you myself to the shore.❜
❛Is that... an order?❜ Nathaniel asked, seemingly offended.
❛Well, I'm the one in charge here, and because of you someone died on my table. So yes, that's an order.❜
Nathaniel couldn't help but laugh a little to Achilles confidence. He couldn't tell it wasn't attractive, and he started to look at the young man a different way. Although, before he didn't have the time to studying the man the way he wanted, now he had all the time he needed. Achilles left and Nathaniel decided to take a look at the room. A lot of books, about mythology, history, arts, medicine, magic, but one of them caught his attention more than another.
❛Poetry.❜ He said while taking one of Achilles' book, when the latter came back with dry clothes for him.
❛Do you have a problem with poetry?❜
❛No, not at all. I'm just... surprise, I suppose.❜
❛A surgeon cannot love poetry?❜ Achilles asked with amusement, and Nathaniel just shrugged. ❛I'm more than just a doctor. I'm also an illusionist and a bard.❜
❛A bard? So, when you're not operating, you're singing songs? Or are you doing both at the same time?❜
❛Are you always so impertinent?❜
Both of them laughed at that. For a moment, the room fell silent, but it was quite enjoyable. It was as if what happened two hours sooner didn't happen, except for the blood on the table to remind them of it. Nathaniel still felt guilty, for sure, but Achilles' presence was enough to soothe it a bit. After a few minutes of looking each other silently, as if the world outside wasn't there, Achilles shook his head and sighed, going to his bed.
❛There is a spare room there, feel free to use it. If ever you kill me in my sleep, I will haunt you forever.❜

okay okay okay. making my BANGING return with a thought.
double life au??
right, so lester is like dr jekyll, and apollo is like mr hyde. lester isn’t a crazy doctor, maybe he’s a demigod or something. it would be more jarring for him if he was a mortal.
anyway. apollo gets casted out of olympus, BUT he doesn't get his own body. instead, he lives in lester's body.
at first, lester hears a voice in his head. not the one he’s used to, it’s like... another voice talking to him? it’s confusing ofc but he’s fine.
(to explain how this works, it’s like angelic possession in supernatural, sorta)
after a while, lester starts experiencing weird bullshit like doing his history homework and the voice talking about strange addition details. a few “back in those days i was a hotshot, eheheh, had a couple of lovers” leaves lester thinking he finally lost it.
apollo isn’t allowed to reveal himself as a god because it would ‘shock mortals’ and ‘drive the poor man to insanity’ (bullshit, apollo thinks) but after a few ‘technically not breaking the rules’ lester finally knows about apollo.
lester thinks he’s genuinely crazy.

Hellsite Nostalgia Tour 2023 Day 319
Ouroboros/Resolution
“Ouroboros”
Plot Description: Sam and Dean are on the hunt for a demigod with a taste for human flesh who can see the future
Would I Survive the First Five Minutes??: I guess it would all depend on whether or not this demigod would deem me edible, wouldn’t it?
Why did I think they were on the hunt for selfish reasons? Like using his powers to see the future
Damn, all five of them are there? (Dean, Sam, Cas, Jack, AND Rowena)
Poor Jack has to defend every cough as not dying from now on
Rowena caring enough to at least ask about the welfare of Jack and Dean. I don’t want to say it almost ruins her, but I liked her more heartless
Ah, fuck, Jack. You can’t be dying again
God, Cas hates plan B to defeating Michael so much
Please tell me that she didn’t turn Jack into a dog. Omg she did. She turned Jack into a dog so he could get antivenom from a veterinarian
Omg. If this was any show but supernatural I’d love this gorgon. Here, it just feels like an exaggerated stereotype that comes off a little homophobic, and honestly, the comments about misogyny don’t land either
Where was everyone the past few episodes? The people from apocalypse world disappear whenever it’s convenient…or rather when it’s inconvenient to have them there
Oh. Oh fuck. No….Dean being knocked unconscious after his talk with Cas about how he can never let his guard down in regards to Michael trying to get out??
Omg Jack, stop using that magic. Stop wasting your soul
The PANIC in Castiel’s voice trying to help Dean 😩
Oh no. Well, on one hand, guess we don’t have to worry about whether it’s convenient or not to have the apocalypse world group around…they all appear to be dead. Michael got out and seems to be vessel hopping maybe? And killing every last one of them
Omg Rowena!Michael?!?! Michael!!! It’s not consent if you coerced her to be your vessel
How much of his — um. Hey. Well, Jack finally killed Michael but what’s the cost? Unless when one of them said “Jack?” And he answered “Michael. He’s dead, that meant Jack was dead?? But then why say “I’m me again”? But then the wings?! I’m confused
“Resolution”
Plot Description: as the new year begins, a terrible evil stirs from across the centuries on planet Earth
Why…hey why are they “passed into legend, and legend became myth, and some things that should not have been forgotten were lost”-ing this opening for whatever great evil thing had to be split into three parts and sent to the far reaches of the world?
Girl, preach! New years is not it.
Awww, these two kissed and are now having an awkward yet adorable conversation about it because they really like each other
I don’t think we should be digging the other pieces up, but that’s just me
Why is the TARDIS all of a sudden breaking things when it lands in people’s homes? I just still think they’re giving Jodie the short end of the straw
Why’s Ryan’s dad here? (Is a thought just about everyone is having)
Yeah, Graham!! Ok but….like, yes, it’s fine to have Graham tell Ryan’s father that he hasn’t done his job as a father because it’s (from what we’ve been told) true. HOWEVER, the optics of this old white dude calling Ryan “son” in front of his biological father when both father and son are black and it potentially plays into stereotypes…I just don’t like that.
What is wrong with this lady? What the actual fuck is on her—um…um. I’m sorry. It’s just. It’s some kind of tentacle monster that can fit under her clothes somehow AND it has control of her brain and motor functions?? There is DEFINITELY hentai of this. Poor girl, just wanted to kiss her colleague
Ok I thought it looked a little internal Dalek-y
Oh hell yeah, Ryan! You love to see him saying his dad can’t demand respect from him. Get all that off your chest, bestie!!!!!!! Omg, this is heartbreaking to see him have to go through this.
Oh good, it’s a scout dalek so it has extra special abilities
OOOO!!! Are we gonna get Kate?! Nope. UNIT operations have been suspended due to what sounded like budgetary constraints. Great.
Ok. There is room for forgiveness and moving forward in the Ryan’s family drama
I love when women do blacksmithing things. Just gorgeous. AND she somehow fought off the dalek??
Oh it did a pretty good job rebuilding itself
Pffft, Graham couldn’t take any more of his son in law by himself so he called up the Doctor to pick him up
Ugh the casual hatred of modern times. This Dalek shut down all communications in England and when people start noticing there’s no WiFi, no phones, no Netflix, and they have to have conversations they’re disgusted? 🙄🙄🙄
Ohhhhh, THAT’S why Ryan’s dad was all of a sudden present, and they were looking to move forward into better relationships with each other. So he could get possessed by the Dalek
Horrifying that she allowed a Dalek onto the TARDIS
Oh good, I’m really glad they didn’t kill off Ryan’s dad, whether through the possession or conscious sacrifice

Let Chaos Reign
Chapter 4- People Of Earth
Summary: On the run from the Avengers in your search for a way off Earth, you meet some mortal annoyances along the way until a certain blue eyed human is able to find you wandering in the forest. But can he convince you to come back to the Avenger’s base with him?
Warning: action, blood, fighting, Bucky doing his best, slight fluff
Masterlist - Chapter 3
Tumblr media
So Bucky had been thinking.
If finding Y/N was only as easy as looking at her red dot on the tracker, then damn, he could just teleport to her no problem. Unfortunately the worlds technology hasn't yet reached Star Trek technological advancements, nor can he teleport. It's been a long hectic couple days trying to find her which is starting to drive Bucky up a wall, how is she so sneaky? He can literally see her location at all times but yet she's evaded him at all costs without even trying, she doesn't even know a tracker is attached to the inside of her jacket.
And the team, they haven't been much help at all. They've decided to listen to Fury's orders and stay clear of Bucky's mission when it comes to finding the escaped demigod and bringing her back to the Avenger's base. A lot of help they are. At least Steve checks in for updates when he's not getting pulled into a training session by any particular person of the hour. Maybe the tracker doesn't even work. Maybe?
No, it's Stark made. It has to work, this problem is simply Y/N.
Bucky pulls off to the side of the road near a little park in some rural town way outside of New York City where he knows Y/N went through not even twenty-three hours ago. He opens his door, slamming it shut in frustration before taking in a big breath of fresh air. The day is slightly overcast yet he doesn't appear to mind it at all, having the hot sun blaring down upon him never feels very pleasant. Then again, maybe he's just more familiar with colder temperatures.
A crow flies down across the vacant road from him, it ignores Bucky as it jumps onto the road in order to pick at some road kill of a dead flattened squirrel. Bucky reverts his gaze when his eyes soon land upon a bent wooden telephone line further up the road where it looks like a car ran right into it. Wanting to stretch his legs for a bit and feed into his curiosity, Bucky jogs across the street and over to the area of flattened grass and wood splinters.
He observes the wreckage. Its just as he saw from farther away, a splintered post with pieces of wood spread across the grass from the impact. A couple glass chunks shimmer in the few rays of sunlight peeking out from behind the clouds. There are tire marks imprinted into the mudded ground leading up to the post, he crouches down to get a better look at the source of impact.
A dog barks in the background, its legs getting closer and closer to Bucky until a wet slobbery nose finds its way onto Bucky's right arm. The face of a golden retriever greets him as a young man races to the spot looking very embarrassed.
"Trout! Get away from the man, be nice! Be nice! He might not want your kisses!" He shouts desperately, "Trout!"
Bucky pets the friendly dog while his owner runs to their spot before standing to greet him, "He's fine, don't worry about it."
The red faced man smiles shyly, "I'm so sorry. He gets so excited whenever there's a stranger around I just don't understand it."
Bucky shakes his head, "It's fine, really. I like dogs."
The dog sniffs around Bucky's boots before sniffing the skid marks, "Oh I'm Gio by the way, sorry about my boy Trout. I love him but he can be a lot."
"Hi." Mutters Bucky, "I'm James."
"Nice to meet you..oh..Trout drop that piece of wood you nucklehead it's sharp!" The dog stops before dropping the wood, it starts sniffing around the grounds again. Gio looks at Bucky, "It's too bad what happened here, just last night too. Thank God nobody died! It's just unfortunate."
"What happened?"
Gio nods towards the splintered pole, "Some nutcase ran out in front of the guy driving and then bam, he just swerved to miss 'em and ended up totaling his car and getting a bruised collar bone. He's my neighbor. Poor guy, never got a proper look at the idiot who did it either so there's no one to blame."
Bucky's brows furrow, "No one saw who ran in front of your friend?"
Gio stops a second to think harder on the matter, "Hmm...okay wait a second Nick did say this person moved like faster then a frickin' deer. They were here one second and gone the next, right into the woods."
"Where is Nick now? Is he okay?"
"Oh yeah he's fine, just chillin' in his hospital bed for another day until his headache goes away. Guess he also got a concussion or something, some shit luck I tell you."
"Thank you, I gotta go." Says Bucky quickly before turning on his heels and jogging across the street. Leaving a very confused Gio to go run after his dog again.
There's a hefty possibility that Y/N had absolutely nothing to do with anything surrounding that crash, however, Bucky has to know. He pulls into the Westonville Hospital before Winter Soldier sneaking his way inside and now here he stands on the other side of the door to Nick's room, 213. He knocks, a man answers and says to come in, Bucky does. Shutting the door right after.
The man lays upright in bed, sipping on a juice box as he quickly locks eyes with Bucky. "Hello." Says the twenty-something year old, "You a nurse?"
Bucky could have laughed, "No. Just here to ask you a couple questions."
"Listen man, the police already got my statement. I wasn't drunk...nor on anything at the time. I don't do that shit while driving, I wanna stay alive okay?"
"Right." Mutters Bucky, "I just want to know if you saw this person who caused you to wreck."
He eyes Bucky suspiciously, "Dude are you with the FBI or something? Cause the police think I just saw a deer but I'm telling you it wasn't a deer okay?"
"What was it then?"
The man looks from the door then back to Bucky, he makes a waving motion for him to walk closer, "Dude, this was some lady. She was so fast I never even saw her till she was almost road kill...then....and you're not gonna believe me....then I swear to God, she pushed my car." Whispers Nick before nodding, "Dude that's how I went into the pole, she pushed me and I lost control and BAM! Right into a pole. Asshole, my damn car is fucked."
"Do you know what she looked like?" Nick then proceeds to give an accurate description of you and all your beautiful chaotic-ness, who's apparently still not very fond of human transportation vehicles.
Bucky then glances from Nick still rambling about you and what a dickhead you must be, to the window showing the woods and half a parking lot. He can't let you escape him again, you might end up killing someone next time and that absolutely cannot happen.
——
Stupid men! Stupid humans getting in your way! These people are irritating and bothersome, all you wanted was to search for the Ancient One in peace. All you want is to find her and get the fuck off this planet so you can confront your brother and...
"Miss are you okay?" A scratchy voice speaks to you from the car to your left, you turn your head to meet the face of a young woman looking at you with kind eyes, "You need a ride?"
"No."
She gives you a look, your appearance is admittedly more roughed up then you would like, but it's been a rough couple days since your last shower and you're technically on the run from Earth's Avengers. "You sure? I got room in here, and a nice place to stay with food and a shower too. Just tryna be nice to someone who looks like they could use a hand." You look like you could use a hand to the face.
Your brows furrow, she reeks of too much perfume and something else, "What kind of food?" You technically do need a ride and this may be your only chance to get one somewhere away from this place in the middle of nowhere. Also a place to stay for the night would be admittedly very nice considering you've been sleeping in trees and behind people's sheds.
Her eyes light up in surprise, "Anything you want. Just tell me and I got you."
"Good."
She unlocks the door, "Come on in. I'm Ava by the way. Nice to meet you, now I hope you don't mind but back at my place I got a couple roommates. But don't worry they come and go, they won't bother you I promise." You don't believe her, but hop in next to her anyways. She looks like she could use a better friend then whoever she stays with. You can smell at least one of them on her.
She gives you a strange faltering smile when you take notice of a nose piercing; she wears a jacket and jeans, although an odd tattoo showing off some line of numbers keeps itself on her right wrist hidden by some colorful bracelets. All in all she is an attractive woman. But her car is no better then her person, the scent is vulgar and repulsive but you're admittedly too hungry to care. Too much perfume.
The ride to her apartment complex takes about twenty minutes, in this time Ava has explained to you how her favorite food, chicken alfredo, is made. She also won't stop looking at the long mirror above your heads, it's like something keeps drawing her attention but there's nothing behind the car of any important significance. Maybe that's just a human thing?
Eventually she takes a couple turns that passes more street stores, houses, and apartments until she drives near a gas station and takes a left for an apartment building of reddish brick that looks like a shitty castle.
It's nestled within the town, with its rear to a small park, oddly enough she claims you can see the city from the roof. Getting out, you watch as she shuts her door before jogging to the back and pulling out a couple groceries. "Oh hey there, can you get the waters, there's like three packs here but we can come back for them later."
You quickly walk to the back of her trunk and lean down to pick up all three waters with ease, her eyes go big, "Oh wow..okay yeah, that'll work." She shuts the back, you begin following her across the parking lot. Stomach growling.
Her wary eyes fall onto you, "So uh, you lift?"
"No."
She nods, "Cool cool, uh you from around here?"
"No."
"Okay cool, I am, well not originally...I was actually from Arizona but then I ran away when I was thirteen because my home life was pretty shit and then I met my boyfriend Jed and he took me here and..." Her face shifts into a frown before it regains it's half smile once more, "Doesn't matter now I guess, it's not fantastic here...with him. But I got a place to stay and a roof over my head and he gets me anything I want really. So it's not so bad."
You can't help but feel somethings not right with her, and this bothers you deeply, "So uh, how's your lover? Jed."
She frowns, "Oh he's nice....I wouldn't say lover I guess....and he's kinda older then me but it's fine really. You might see him, he comes and goes yunno?"
She opens the glass doors for you to walk inside, the area smells of stale air and smoke, "How old?"
She purses her lips together, "Not that much older, I'm seventeen he's just a little above that. But it works for us, he's got me a nice place and he loves me so that's nice." Her smile falters, you can tell something isn't right here but can't quite place your finger on it.
Ava keeps silent for the rest of the trek upstairs until she leads you down a long hallway to a tall white door reading A8 on the front, a small glass porthole in the center. She gets her keys out, "Try not to touch anything, he doesn't like messes okay? Just uh, follow me okay, he might have a friend here."
"Alright then. Proceed." She gives a little nod before unlocking the door and opening it up to reveal a large apartment as clean as a button, with the exception of a few tall thin glass bottles empty of all liquid laying on the short glass table in the lounging area. A large screen is on showcasing something of little importance to you.
Ava sets the groceries on the kitchen counter before racing over to the short table, "Oh sorry about the mess, please just set the waters down by the trash can. Give me a moment." You look down to find a tall thin metal can, doesn't look like a trash can but you set the three cases of water down anyways.
Standing in the middle of her kitchen she hastily rushes in to drop the bottles in the trash can, "I'll put the stuff away, do you-do you want anything?"
"Whatever gives me enough strength to continue on my journey."
"Right. Yeah okay uh we got," She opens up the fridge, "we got some burritos from last night. And fruit....a lot of beer....you don't want that. Here, I'll heat this up for you okay." She shuts the fridge and takes the assumed burrito to another square object hanging from the wall. She pops open the door before placing the food inside and shutting it.
She turns it on. "What is that device?" You ask a sit makes a strange vacuum sound.
She raises a brow, "A microwave." Voice on the tinge of humor, the microwave beeps and she soon opens it back up. "Here ya go! It's a day old so don't worry, still fresh."
She hands it to you, you look down at the warm thing wrapped in a brown paper, "Appreciated."
Your meal is well received and admittedly pretty delicious, once finished do you walk over to the giant glass window to have a look outside, you can see the tops of many trees and farther away across the greenery lays a city just as Ava had spoken of.
Maybe the Ancient One resides somewhere in there, hidden, but within the ginormous labyrinth of steel, cement, and glass. Farther down the hallway a door swings open and the pattering of bare feet is heard walking down the tiled floors of shiny white. This place really is clean, like a small palace for the mortals.
The man stops at the end of the halls archway though you don't care to look at him, "Ava who's the bitch over there? I thought Jed wasn't buying anymore for a few weeks." Whispers the man to the kind woman, Ava, who stands frozen in the kitchen.
You immediately don't like him, but stay your ground to listen, she whispers back, "She's a friend. Needed somewhere to stay for a day or so."
He walks over to her, "He's gonna be pissed when he sees your new friend here. If she's not here to sell, get her the fuck out before your man comes home tonight."
"Tonight?"
"Yeah tonight. His trip to Vegas ended yesterday, he's on his way. Don't you know how time works?"
She shakes her head, "Guess I just forgot is all. I'll make sure she's gone."
He looks over to give you a proper once over, you can hear his heartbeat quicken, "Not too bad either. Nice ass, she looks good..real good, it's a damn shame she's not here to stay for the fun. I wouldn't mind a couple of rounds with her myself."
Your fists clench, you've had enough of this jabbering animal, "Oh really?" You turn around to watch as his eyes go wide when they take notice of the golden color of your irises, "What filth you spill off of that thing you call a mouth is repulsive and disgusting. Who are you may I ask?"
He quickly retains his swagger once again, he takes a step forward, "I'm Jed's right hand man, Antonio, I run this bitch when he's away and I don't like how you're talking to me."
"I'm not entirely fond of your existence. Leave us, I want to speak with Ava alone."
Antonio's face shows bewildered rejection, "Excuse me?"
You take a threatening step forward, "I don't believe my tongue slipped. You heard me correctly. Leave." He keeps still as a statue, mind still processing your words. Clearly no on had ever bothered to talk to him like this before.
He blinks and points a hand up for emphasis, "No whore tells me what I can and can't do in my own goddamn house!" He immediately rushes past Ava to grab something under the kitchen bar.
She gasps in surprise, "Tony no! Don't do this! Put it away she didn't mean it, she doesn't I swear! I swear!"
He walks back around to shove her into the couch, "Shut up." He throws up his arm to reveal a black hand held object that could be nothing else but a small gun, you stare at it in curiosity, expression interested and unfazed.
He doesn't like that, he tilts the gun at you angrily, "What's up now huh! You ain't telling me to do nothin' I run this fucker up in here! So you're gonna fuckin' listen to me you whore! I'll fu.." Antonio's body stiffens, his eyes go wide as saucers when he realizes he's not able to move, not able to speak.
Hands kept to your sides, you curl the fingers of your right hand to bloodbend this imbecile. Moving this hand to the right, Antonio's grasp is forced open and the gun clatters to the floor. "What are you doing!?" Shouts Ava fearfully.
"Teaching a dog a lesson."
Curling the fingers of your other hand, Antonio is forced to walk in staggered painful steps across the carpet at your will, Ava gasps in fright as she watches your little horror show. "Men don't treat their people like animals, you want to act like a beast. Then you'll be one."
His throat makes a dry crackly sound as he tries to scream when you move your hands to orchestrate a new action, Antonio is forced to his knees where he crawls like a dog across the clean carpet. A frightened man he becomes, his movements choppy and forced, body awkward and stiff as he moves on all fours. Proud of your work, you walk over to the man and crouch down to reach his level, "You see, the universe has created us all for a reason. Whether we are powerful or not, that control we have can be taken as it can be given."
He mumbles a reply that cannot be heard properly even by your hears.
"You know of your power?" He shakes his head as you smirk, "Your strength is built from fear and hatred. That is no way to find your place in the world, that is how tyrants lead."
Drool runs down the side of his mouth as his eyes look up to you pleadingly. "Stop it! You're hurting him!" Shouts Ava.
You give Antonio a pitiful look, "I know. And this creature deserves more then I'm willing him to do, but because you've gained my respect. I will release him." Standing, you flick your hands and Antonio is released from your trance. He coughs and sputters in a curled up heap on the floor like a beaten old dog.
"Pathetic." You mutter dryly as Ava breaths heavily from the couch.
"Wh-what are you?" She whispers, "Are you a witch?"
"No. But I am someone who is done with this place." You give her a respectful tilt of your head, "Ava, I thank you for your hospitality, but I must leave." She watches as you take one last look around the room before walking towards the closed door. Turning the handle you're prepared to exit when she screams. "Antonio no!"
Boom!
The bullet stops three inches from the back of your head, whipping around to face your assailant, he fires two more rounds as you halt the bullets in their tracks. He registers what's happening and quickly chooses to pull the trigger again. As a plethora of steel flies your way, you raise an open palm that causes them all to freeze in place.
The room goes deathly silent before Antonio takes a single step and you've sent all five bullets straight through his vulnerable flesh. Blood flies across the walls as he slumps to the ground while Ava gasps in terror, too afraid to make a sound.
You frown, gaze set on Ava, "I'm sorry I had to do this in front of you. He gave me no choice, but I think this loss will not be mourned over." Your golden eyes flicker back down at the bullet ridden body, "A quick death is more then he deserved. So long Ava, be brave."
The door opens.
"What the fuck happened here?!" Speaks a man most certainly in his late thirties as he sets something on the ground, "Who's this bitch?"
Ava's expression shifts to fear as you let out a tired sigh, eyes set to the man you know as Jed, "An old friend." ——
Crouched down by a river, you rub off flecks of blood that dissipate into the murky water like forgotten memories. You just wanted to eat and rest a while as you gathered your thoughts. But here you are, you've killed two humans and have damaged a couple busses in the process of it all. Not to mention that one car the other night...at least that man kept his life.
This realm is complicated and busy, there's not enough wilderness to hide in and there are certainly too many prying eyes that can catch you with their small square devices easier then you'd like. Thankfully Ava had not seen your rampage on the internet so she wasn't able to instantly recognize you. Then again you weren't wearing your armor.
However your eye color certainly doesn't aid you in finding a way into the city close by, that's still too far for your liking, people will undoubtedly stare. At this point you don't trust a single soul, and anyone close enough to see your face would most likely report you to the authorities in an instant.
Your goal has been thwarted one too many times and that shit does not fly with you one bit. Find the Ancient One, have her open a portal to your realm, and from there kick your brothers ass. It's all very simple, well at least it should be. Stupid Midgardians.
Hrrrrr Hrrrrrrrr! A loud horn blares from within the woods to your back right, twisting around and standing at attention, your fists emit flame when a huge lumbering mass of metal rolls through the trees practically making the ground shake.
It sounds like a tiny thunderstorm, you've never seen anything like it except for when you where in Norway but that vehicle was significantly smaller and less loud. "God this place is insufferable." You mutter, annoyed by the less then peaceful atmosphere of Midgard.
So far you've evaded the watchful eyes of the Avengers for the past three days and have gotten nowhere on your quest for vengeance. And now this thing just adds to your stirred up pot of frustration.
Taking a breath, you decide to wander through the trees until you've found the tracks where that metal vessel was drawing its power from, oddly enough the steel bars attached to plates of wood does not give off energy. Strange.
Figuring it must be the vehicle itself, you sway your mind from pondering the idea as your thoughts drift to that of home and the necklace hidden around your neck. This valued object was your dying mother's, a heirloom of your linage, and a damn powerful piece of jewelry.
But your brother and his wicked ideas, he wanted to use it for his grant thoughts of tyranny and power over the nine realms. A fool, no one could ever claim such a feat, no place needs rules like such from one being calling all the shots. It's madness.
It's insane.
Shaking your head, you keep following down the tracks as you listen to the sounds of cars in the far off distance. Birds chirp and flutter by while minding their business in the forest, although you could have sworn you heard a soft thud in the dirt behind you. A shuffle of stones maybe?
A deer perhaps? No, this is no deer; halting your trek to the city, you place your hands upon your hips before slowly turning around, "I'd expected as much. You are a clever man after all....Bucky."
The dark haired man greets you with a shy grin as he stands there off to the side of the tracks, dressed in casual attire like that when you saw him in Norway. He seems genuinely happy to see you, "I wish I could stay away." Replies Bucky in a playful tone, "But you've killed two human traffickers and I gotta make sure you don't hurt anyone else. Even if they deserve it."
You scoff, "I could end your life right now if I wanted to, kill all your friends next and then burn this world to ash and dust trying to get what I want. No matter the cowards I've killed."
He shrugs, "That sounds harsh. I'd rather you didn't actually, kinda like being alive." He's such a smartass in the best way, yet you hold back a smile to keep your noble aurora about you.
"Fair point I suppose. This Earth may be greatly flawed, but I have no qualms with the people here but that of my own business."
"Right. Your own business, finding the Ancient One and dealing with your brother and all that stuff." Nods Bucky, "Y/N, you know we could help you..."
"I don't need it! I'll find my way through this planet myself.  Alone!" You shout, causing the trees to creak and moan from a surplus of wind that blows Bucky's hair about. He knows what you're capable of, but he has to try and persuade you anyways.
He looks almost apprehensive to approach you, "Y/N please. I know we all got off on the wrong foot, probably by a lot. But my friends are good people, we want to help you find what you're looking for. I promise you that." Says Bucky with a pleading look, "No lies. I promise."
You give him a conflicted glare as you think of your options; he found you somehow, he legitimately wants to help, and you desperately need a way off this damn planet. Maybe they do know a way, maybe they'll actually be able to help you, maybe Bucky is truthful?
He goes to take a step forward when you throw a hand out, "Stop." He keeps still as you take a breath, "Bucky, you give me your word?"
"I do."
"Promise!"
Raising his hands up, he gives you a sincere look, "I promise Y/N."
Taking a long moment to think over his words, you finally nod, "Good." He watches as you walk across the tracks until you're within a couple feet of him, he swallows, unsure if you might have just lied and are about to set him on fire. Instead he's relieved when you gift him a tight lipped grin, "Fine then, let us leave this place."
"Awesome.....yeah, okay good...well I'm parked back that way. We can just walk on the tracks instead of through the woods. Easier that way." He takes a couple steps back the way you came, when you don't move does Bucky stop and reach a hand out for you to take, "I'm not going to hurt you Y/N, I promised I'd help you remember?"
"I haven't forgotten." You quickly answer him.
"Good because I intend to keep it." He smiles softly, beautiful stormy blues focused all on you with a gloved hand ready for you to take.
You shake your head before walking past him, "Fine but I'm not shaking your hand."
Bucky chuckles to himself as he watches you practically swagger down the side of the tracks away from him. Quickly does he break from his staring trance to jog over to your side. The two of you walk for a little ways in complete silence until you glance over at him when your curiosity gets the better of you. There's just one tiny question you still need answered, "Well, how'd you find me?"
Bucky holds back a grin, "Your pocket." He points down towards your jackets pocket. Giving him a look of confusion, you reach down and feel inside for whatever he's on about, suddenly your fingers touch something round and metal attached to the inside wall.
Taking a hold of this odd device, you tug it loose before bringing your hand into the open, "What the hell is this?" You ask.
Bucky reaches out to take the object from you, he holds it up, "This. Is a tracker."
"That thing? It's like a thick coin, how does it manage to do such a feat?"
"Technology, radio waves. It's not my design, but with it I was able to follow where you went. Granted you're more elusive with your traveling then I'd first realized, but it did it's job...and now I'm here."
"Yes, now you're here. Maybe you really are braver then I first thought, or just a plain fool. I could have stuck to my word and killed you." You snap your fingers, "Just like that."
He chuckles, "I had a feeling you wouldn't."
"Oh really? What made you assume I would be merciful?"
"When we met for the first time in Norway, and later at the base. You didn't hurt me, well I guess I should say you didn't try and squeeze the life out of me. Or set me on fire.."
"I set your jacket on fire." You point out as he smiles.
"You did. I liked that jacket too." Muses Bucky, "Still, you let me live both times. Even let my friends live too, Y/N, I don't think you're so bad at all."
You hum in thought, "Your words are kind and humbling. But I do not feel worthy of such claims." He has no idea who you are, what you've done. So much he doesn't know.
Bucky frowns, "Why not?"
"I have done nothing but add more chaos to this realm with my existence here, I have been betrayed and for that I was filled with rage taken out on innocent people living their lives. I want to be worthy of what you say I am, but I am not." His heart hurts at your valiantly honest words, if only he could understand completely.
"Believe me Y/N, you aren't nearly as bad as you think you are. There's been way worse people throughout history here before you ever showed up."
"I believe your words though my personal occurrence's chance to lessen these people compared to what I have done centuries ago. Do not misinterpret all of what I speak, I understand there are always beings harming others for their own sick pleasure, however I did not frighten for enjoyment. Quite the opposite."
He could just about give up his metal arm forever just to know what the hell you're talking about. What kind of life did you live before all of this? Bucky soon takes out a small square device with his one gloved hand, "I trust your word on that. And hopefully we're able to help you...I just gotta get us a ride out of here first." He turns on a black screen and slides his finger across to unlock, "I have where I parked pin pointed via another tracker."
"You don't recall where you've come from?"
"Yeah, I mean no..no, I do remember the direction I came in, it's just I was running so fast to find you I forget exactly where my car is. Don't worry this will only take a moment."
Holding back a grin at the way he muddles around on that screen of his, you divert your gaze elsewhere to look around at the trees and other various greenery spread about as usual on a planet such as this one. It's fascinating, almost like that of your home world in Vanaheim. How you miss that place. The vast mountains spread throughout the landscape, huge lumbering trees taller then the cellphone towers you've passed, and great skies of blue where dragons fly at will.
Suddenly a stick cracks in the trees to your right, you turn while Bucky pays little attention, a crow flies out and into the blue sky it goes. Easy now, just a bird, nothing more. The wind picks up for a second and you can almost catch the scent of sulfur when a ball of fire erupts from the trees ready to kill.
The spherical flame screams towards you and Bucky, who's by now dropped his phone onto the tracks, "Y/N watch out!" He shouts fearfully, hand gripping onto your shoulder as you keep a strong fearless stance to the approaching flame.
Throwing a hand out, you divert the ball into the gravel where it bursts like a small firework, rocks flying everywhere as you stand at the ready for whatever happens next. "Y/N! What the hell was that!" Shouts Bucky.
"A scout. I think one of my brother's loyalists found me."
"A scou..." Another ball of flame soars towards the two of you and then another right behind it as you maneuver your body to deflect each of them in quick succession when out of the scorched trees does a smirking woman reveal herself. Her smile is proud and wicked, taller then Bucky she stands and impeccably strong she appears.
She wears armor closely resembling your own, but instead of blues, silver, and white. Her armor is black and red, silver replaced with shimmering obsidian as she walks into the evening light. Her eyes flicker gold like your own, she tilts her head at you, "Princess Y/N of Vanaheim. An honor to meet you, truly." She bows with mockery, you immediately despise her.
"What dog is this who speaks to me?"
She grimaces, "Aüla, master of flame, Phoenix of Vanaheim, I am here to bring what stolen jewelry lays upon your neck. What belongs to King Leyondros." She points a sharp nailed finger to your neck, "That, is a house Lavpranthus family heirloom."
"You think I was born yesterday? That incompetent tyrant who dare claim himself as king does not deserve what treasure I possess. He is barely a brother to me now, and you, what business do you serve?"
She smirks, gifting Bucky with a wink as she wiggles her fingers with flame, "He's sent his best out to find your whereabouts since he's exiled you. I just happened to be lucky enough to land on Midgard where wouldn't you know it, here keeps the banished Princess herself. I couldn't be more fortunate." She opens up her palm like a needy child, "Now Y/N, the object I so desire."
"You will die trying."
She holds up a threatening fist of hot flame, "I will be bathed in riches! I will be loved! King Leyondros will welcome his champion with open arms as I present him with the necklace stolen by his traitor sister! With grand tidings of her annihilation!"
You share a dark look with Aüle as you step in front of Bucky, "I do not care to know what bargaining from the beasts of this realm you made to find me. And I certainly do not care for the false promises my brother has warped into your mind, you cannot take my life and you cannot have this necklace."
She calls flame into both hands, "Then I'll take it off your burnt corpse!" She thrusts her hands forward causing a burst of hot orange flames to shoot like dragon fire straight for yourself and Bucky.
Anticipating this action, you create a wall of your own fire that shatters her advances, you turn to the wide eyed brunette, "Bucky forgive me for not handling this sooner. I hadn't realized she was here."
"It's fine." Mumbles Bucky, chest rising and falling with heavy breaths as he stares fearfully at the angry woman spewing fire at you still.
Focused back on Aüla, she suddenly begins creating whips of flame that crack and slash at the air. She throws a whip towards Bucky but you're able to deflect it easily, in retaliation of her advances, you thrust a burst of dusty wind knocking her backwards.
She tumbles across the gravel like a discarded sack of potatoes, jumping gracefully down from the high point of the tracks, you land nearby this hellfire spawn who staggers to her feet. Rubbing the dust from out of her eyes, she coughs, "Foul play Princess, I should have guessed you'd cheap shot."
"You still believe you're leaving here with my necklace?"
Leaving her charcoal stained eyes be, she opens her palms to flame, "Well I certainly don't intend on perishing at your hand. I will get what I came for."
You throw a quizzical look, is she insane? Not wanting to ponder her mental stability, you use the gravel to crawl it up to her knees where it fuses and roots itself into the ground, she flails her arms trying to regain balance. Angered by this, Aüla clenches her fists, tightly hugging them to her chest as she concentrates.
A small orange glow emits from the center of her chest before she screams while opening her arms to the sky and with that her whole body erupts with flame like that of a Phoenix reborn. Tree branches and leaves alike are burnt and singed nearby while her anchor is melted.  Aüla levitates freely now, body a mass of hot flames as she stares furiously down at you with eyes of black charcoal.
"Behold the Phoenix! Now you will obey by law of the one true king!" Fire is thrown like thin arrows towards your face, again, easily deflected into the gravel below.
She chuckles darkly, thrusting a hand of intense flame that causes you to fall backwards across the ground. Pushing yourself up by the pads of your hands, she takes this vulnerable moment to race after Bucky with wings of fire.
Face contorted like a melted candle, her arms open wide as she prepares to embrace Bucky to the flames. Jumping up, you bend your arms, moving them in opposite directions on a linear path to conjure some type of protection. Aüla slams into an enchanted force field of dark blues that sends her flailing backwards like a bursting firework.
Regaining her balance, she levitates, scowling in disgust, "You? Would protect this mortal man?"
Your gaze falls onto Bucky, he's standing there, expression fearful and wide as he looks at you desperately. You take a step forward, "I will."
"But why? He is nothing compared to you, to us, he's simply an insect on a leaf."
"He is someone who has showed me more kindness in the last couple days then some of my own people have in the past hundred years!" You shout furiously before using your magic to paralyze her like you did with Wanda and Vision.
She struggles to move but all efforts are unfruitful, "Do not! Don't. You. Dare!" She screams as you take another fearless step towards her, raising your hands in a beautiful fluid motion, her obsidian irises flash with terror.
"Aüla, Phoenix of Vanaheim, I admire your efforts and valor. But I am not so merciful when my life as been threatened, as someone of these nine realms with some type of authority still. I, Y/N Lavpranthus of Vanaheim, condemn you to die." Your golden eyes flash with a noble flair of judgment while your hands sway like subtle waves on a beach.
"No. No. Nooo..." Her screams are eradicated when a burst of water consumes her entire vessel, she sizzles and smokes as you draw the river water away to reveal nothing but discarded broken armor. She never even noticed you were doing this.
As a plethora of water dissipates into steam from where she once stood, more liquid fills through the cracks in the gravel while you slowly wander over to the dark spot stained onto the center tracks. Kneeling down, you pick up an obsidian gauntlet cracked down the middle curve. "Who was that?" Asks Bucky from behind you.
"One of my brothers scouts. His best fire-bender.." You study the intricate markings that dance like vines around the metalwork, "..a phoenix in human form."
There is a long pause before he asks, "Why are you being hunted Y/N?"
You sigh, head bowed to the earth, "It's a long story."
Bucky frowns down at you, he's not sure what to do, but he knows you're deeply troubled by whatever events have led you to this point. A comforting hand rests upon your shoulder, "You don't have to tell me now. But I think we should go."
Dropping the broken gauntlet onto the dark stained wood, you stand, "Perhaps you're right. Who knows what else lurks in the shadows waiting to pounce. I'd rather not have you injured on my behalf."
Bucky shares a lopsided grin, "Appreciated. Now come on, I know the way home." Directs Bucky as the two of you begin walking down the tracks for wherever he speaks of.
Maybe these people aren't as bad as you'd first thought, unfortunately there are still evils that are desperate to find you. Until that time comes again.

this evil lost trio au is utter nonsense and a complete mess but i thought i should blab it anyway, because i really do like the sound of my own voice.
okay okay so that scene in tlh where leo gets thrown off the skywalk in the grand canyon (which lmao) and instead gaea is way more awake and just, idk, takes him. like, he just dissolved in quicksand, and that's that. coach hedge is super shocked but he's got 2 other demigods, but he's freaking out because the council was right and he lost one of his charges. and then when piper gets thrown over, jason knows he could fly because of his gut feeling- and for a second he DOES fly, but my dude has been sleeping for like 3 months so he hesitates and they both disappear like leo did. hedge still gets taken by those venti, and then annabeth and butch come but are super confused because hedge is missing and there's a bunch of scared high schoolers on a bus but no demigods (or percy lol).
anyway next scene, jasonpiperleo are in like some funky monster club underground, and it's confusing as HELL. anyway, some pretty lady comes and she explains that their demigods but does NOT explain the prophecy. she leads them to some secret tunnel and like a throne room, except the set-up is straight out of snow white. there's some sleeping lady in some casket, and the lady (the lady is Medea because medea is 💅) says some crap about the sleeping woman being mother earth and how gaea is so angry at the humans ruining the earth and everything, but Medea, that sly bitch, is charmspeaking them as she goes along, and the lost trio are just like "mhm. yeah makes sense". they get freaking swindled, thinking gaea is benevolent and she just wants to heal the world, and they HAVE to make sure the open the doors of death to help
this works on leo, because it means that the only one who he cares about (his mom) has a chance of being brought back. he's failed to make the connection between gaea and dirt face, because the thought of seeing his mom again is just. everything. (also anytime he's close to making the connection gaea acts all nice again and the poor kid keeps getting charmspoken to anyway). jason and piper are most skeptical because the plan isn't adding up, but gaea's thought ahead. she already has piper's dad and with some of the beautiful abuse of mist and just lying, she's convinced piper that the gods took her dad and gaea got tristan mclean for her, because she loves piper. anyway, gaea tells jason that his memories were taken by hera (not a lie), and that jason was abandoned (not a lie either), and that the gods abandoned their kids (not. a. lie.), and that jason was just a pawn to the gods (not a lie!!!), but for gaea? jason means everything and she loves him so so so much, and she will give him everything.
thelosttrio learn more about their powers from the various monsters that they would've encountered in tlh. the giants with leo, medea with piper, venti with jason. lit teaches them fighting because camp half blood sure didn't. midas, khione, and medea are just there for a good time tbh, they throw monster raves or something. as a result, thelosttrio, blinded with lies and the grooming and manipulative abuse of gaea have basically created a family with villains and don't even know it :O. ngl, some of the villains are having their own crisis because some are thinking "is it really right to trick these kids like this? does this make sense?"
NOW MY WHOLE THING ABOUT THIS IS what happens to the prophecy? idk the seven never joined up lol, so i guess "to storm or fire the world fell". in all honesty, piper's the one to probably figure it all out (maybe too late) and it hurts that thelosttrio now have to turn against this family they created. they've also had this idea that the gods are bad funneled into their minds constantly, and they don't understand how any of the 7 could ever fight for the gods. annabeth (🙄) is all "duh we KNOW but you're doing this wrong", and then she thinks it over like "huh. why ARE we fighting for the gods" because she remembers luke and what he fought for.
huh.
anyway the world goes to hell, because the prophecy was completely dependent on thelosttrio in the first place soooooo gaea won because she got to them before they even knew what a demigod was lol. it's called the lost hero/the lost trio because damn, the world just lost three heroes at that grand canyon trip
#THIS IS NONSENSE im so sorry but this evil lost trio au has been SITTING IN MY HEAD FOR LIKE 3 YEARS NOW#so uh technically i HAVE written a few scenes of this but 😔 it was before i understood how to write#theres no consistent plan at ALL just scenes 😔 i keep imagining piper and annabeth facing off and it makes me LOSE it#literally the only time i cared about jason and percy facing off haha#i can see leo falling the hardest because he literally had nothing and gaea is the perfect abuser to use this to her advantage ugh#the lost trio#jason grace#leo valdez#piper mclean#i always thought of it as a jasipereo kinda vibe. but the world isnt ready for that yet so ill keep it in the tags#honestly??? theres like a hyperrealistic scene in my head where they sit and talk to a sleeping gaea and theyre like 'oh god what if shes#lying??? what if shes evil' and then they convince themselves nooo theres no WAY and when they leave... gaea smiles... 😩😩😩 this shit!!!!#im so sorry this came out of nowhere like i was just going through my docs to find an essay to turn in and i got distracted#and i went DEEP in my docs and i found a scene from this au and it was funny because i ACTUALLY passed out#like i was literally dehydrated and i passed out in my bedroom from my beds after eading 😂#oh im good but oh my GOD this au#anyway. ignore my nonsense lol. im gonna silently build a coherent plot alone haha#cant wait to reblog this in a few months when i forget 😜😜😜#pjo au#eviltrio au#for lack of a better name lmao#god tier ideas 🌟

Her Future - A dark Annabeth fic
Chapter 4
Locating minor gods was an easy task. Most had a lot more free time than the 12 Olympians and came to camp regularly to see the cabins honoring themselves or simply to visit with their children. But camp, surrounded by her friends and siblings, was no place to go about the business she had, so Annabeth devised a system.
Her and Percy would wander out into the woods with a picnic basket, supposedly going out for lunch. In the dense trees they would wait for whatever deity had visited that day to leave main camp, and once far enough away from people, they would jump into the god’s path feigning being lost and strike up a conversation. From there, it was all up to Percy.
Annabeth, of course, explained to him what role each minor god needed to play. When and where they were needed, how much commitment it would require, and so forth. She had put so much time into planning out every minute detail that it was foolproof already and she simply needed people to get on board. There was no space for “suggestions” from others- people’s suggestions were only ever a polite way of saying you’re wrong.
It was really something to watch Percy work. Annabeth never had much time to admire his talents while they were fighting for their lives, but now, in a less threatening situation, she could sit back and appreciate his way with words. It was different than Luke’s manipulation; Luke utilized fake compassion like it was nothing and ended up making Annabeth feel confused about absolutely everything.
Percy, on the other hand, was shrewd and straightforward with what he said, leading the conversation where he wanted it to go. It was his number one survival tactic and had saved Annabeth’s life more times than she can count.
“Perhaps it’s poor luck that you two are unable to find your way back to camp in this rain. Though I will say, that isn’t my doing” the deity said. Sheets of cold rain had begun pouring down around them sometime in the past 5 minutes, stinging their faces, but the two demigods weren’t deterred quite yet.
Tyche, the greek goddess of chance and fortune, stood before them in a pale green toga, an overflowing horn in one hand and blindfold in the other. Her curly brown hair wasn’t damped by the rain- a modest display of her godly powers. Annabeth had seen plenty of divine beings before in all their glory, but still she plastered a look of amazement onto her face.
“We were just hoping so badly to meet you. I’ve heard you’re the most marvelous of all Zeus’ children,” Annabeth said, shoving all the innocence she could into her voice.
“Thank you, my dear, but you are wrong about that. My father is the titan Oceanus,” Tyche responded. She looked up to the heavens dreamily, standing that way for a moment, until she was seemingly pleased with herself and began to meander into the words. Quickly, Percy spoke up, drawing her attention back to themselves.
“But I’ve always heard that Zeus is credited with your creation. Isn’t he the one that gifted the Greeks with good fortune through you?” he asked, tilting his head in confusion for effect. The goddess turned back towards them sharply. Just as intended, he had struck a nerve.
“That’s absolute foolishness. Zeus hasn’t done a single thing for the Greeks in his life. It’s been me who’s granted them prosperity, me who’s warned them of dangerous risks. That good-for-nothing sorry excuse of a king has no right to play the hero. Don’t you children believe a word he says.”
The demigods nodded eagerly in response. This resentment was just what they needed to tap into, and it seemed to be overflowing in the goddess.
“He’s lied to everyone, yet he still gets whatever he wants. Isn’t that what qualifies a person for bad luck?” Percy said, his ingenuous voice hiding the powerful implications of what he said. Tyche stood over them for a moment as if in deep consideration. He took the moment of silence as an opportunity to instill another idea in her head. “Doesn’t Zeus’ temple at Camp Jupiter sit over a fault line?”
It was a simple enough observation. Yes, a fault line ran through California and reached to Temple Hill, but they had never experienced any tremors there. New Rome had excellent technology for detecting possible earthquakes. But say the reports went unchecked for a day, just by chance. And an earthquake occurred, just by chance. One that, just by chance, only damaged Jupiter’s temple. That could cause some serious upheaval on Olympus. That might even result in a shift in power, if played right. And Annabeth knew how to play it right.
AN: Heck yeah we’re gonna mess with Zeus. Thanks for reading! All chapters under the tag ‘her future annabeth”

"Growth" - Piper McLean & Jason Grace - One-Shot
Summary: Jason & Piper share a moment together as her birthday comes to a close
Note: WOOOO HAPPY BIRTHDAY PIPER ILY and also this is purely platonic
Word Count: 1979
Read on AO3
A cool draft of night air pours over Piper, and she hugs her arms closer to her body in an attempt to block out the cold. It’s awfully chilly for a June night, but she doesn’t mind; she prefers the crispy air anyway. It’s liberating.
The black sky spills like ink overhead; twinkling stars poke white holes into the mesmerizing darkness. A gleaming white moon spills over Piper like a spotlight, and her eyes sparkle under the beautiful night.
She sighs contentedly and pulls her knees to her chest. These are her favorite moments - the ones on the roof of her house, with nothing but the empty, dark sky before her and the cold for company.
She’s comfortable in her skin here. She’s herself.
It’s a nice change from the eventful night she’s had. She and her friends have been celebrating her birthday all day, first by spending a day out in the city, and then throwing an eventful party at her house during the evening. Her body aches with a happy exhaustion, and her mind still buzzes with the music that pulsed just hours ago.
But as much as she’s loved today - especially after seeing most of the Argo II group - an urge has been humming in her head since the evening. An urge to just be alone, to slip away.
Now most of her friends are asleep inside the house, and finally, after hours of laughing and celebrating, hours of smiles and stretched enthusiasm, Piper can throw off her mask and let herself deflate.
The midnight sky embraces her. Its cool, comforting arms wrap around Piper and accompany her in her solitude. The shadowed trees dance under the moonlight as another brush of wind sweeps through the clearing before her.
Piper leans her chin against her knees and allows a soft, quiet smile to slip over her mouth. A feverish and excited warmth blooms under her cheeks as she gazes ahead into the night, its darkness full of possibilities for the future.
She’s so lost into the silence, so consumed into the solitude, that she barely notices when a large thud rumbles behind her. It’s only when a warm arm brushes against that she realizes she isn’t alone.
Anxiety beats in Piper’s heart at the brush of contact. She reaches for a dagger by her side as fear courses through her. What if it’s a monster? What if someone’s here to steal her?
The look of surprise and terror in her eyes must be pretty amusing, because when she finally meets the gaze of her intruder, a warm, familiar laugh falls over her.
“It’s just me,” says Jason. “No need to get jumpy.”
A groan of relief escapes Piper’s chest and she scoffs, turning her gaze back to the scene before her. The prior calmness that floated over her has completely dissipated and she frowns in frustration. “Geez,” she mutters. “Can’t you be a little more quiet?”
“If I was quieter I’m sure I would have made you accidentally fall from the roof,” responds Jason. He gestures to the empty spot beside her and raises an apprehensive eyebrow. “Do you mind if I sit?”
Despite her annoyance, a small smile quirks over Piper’s lips. Usually she’d be angry if someone came to interrupt her alone time, but knowing that it’s Jason, she’ll allow his intrusion. She scoots over and nods. “Have a seat, Sparky.”
Jason’s body thuds softly against the roof as he sets himself down. His long legs dangle next to hers, and against the next gust of wind, both their feet sway like wind chimes.
Piper watches Jason closely, a suspicious line drawing itself over her mouth. Her eyes travel over his physical being, searching for any new changes that may have appeared in his absence. Pale moonlight washes over his features and offers Jason an almost ethereal, elvish glow. His blond hair gleams like sunlight; his pale skin glows as it absorbs the cool, empty gleam of the moon. Behind his glasses, Jason’s electric eyes spark in the darkness.
The demigod turns his eyes to her, almost as if he knows she’s watching him. A confused smile quirks against his lips. “What?” he asks. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Piper shakes her head and smiles. “Nothing. It’s just… Seems like you’ve grown quite a bit since I’ve last seen you.” She nudges her shoulder against his playfully. “It’s weird growing up, isn’t it?”
Jason laughs softly, and the sound of his amusement billows in the air. He grins at her. “Gotta say, didn’t think we’d even make it to eighteen. Seems like a feat in itself.”
She hums in agreement, then turns her gaze back to the scenery around her. A warm blanket of quiet wraps around the two demigods, pulling them together in the intimate darkness, and Piper finds that she doesn’t mind this closeness with Jason at the moment. It’s been so long since she and him have truly taken a moment for themselves.
After a few moments of calm, Jason shifts a little, his sweatshirt rustling against his body. A slight whooshing sound slips over him - the sound of paper rustling against clothing - and Piper turns her head curiously to the noise.
In his hands, she notices a paper plate with two slices of pink cake, along with two white plastic forks. She offers a quizzical look to her friend.
He responds with a shy smile. “Do you wanna eat some with me? We can hoard it for ourselves before the others wake up tomorrow morning.”
A soft laugh puffs from Piper’s lips. She pulls a fork from the plate, jabs it into the cake, and pulls a piece of it closer to her mouth. Before biting down, she teases, “Damn, Grace, didn’t take you to be the rebellious kind.”
Jason chuckles as he takes his own fork and takes a chunk for himself. “Leo’s been a bad influence on me, I guess.”
Piper doesn’t miss the pink that bleeds over his cheeks at the mention of Leo’s name. After swallowing her bite down, she offers a sparkling grin to Jason. “Ah, yes. Your boyfriend.”
She relishes the sight of Jason’s red ears. “My boyfriend,” he agrees shyly, a hum of excitement lingering over his voice.
“How are you guys? Enjoying your new apartment together?”
The blond shrugs timidly, but Piper doesn’t miss the prideful smile over his mouth. “Yeah. It’s been kinda fun. He’s really hard to share a bed with though.” Jason rolls his eyes. “He hogs the blanket, which is stupid since he can literally turn to fire and be his own heat warmer. But no, he insists on leaving me in the cold.”
“Well, they never said love was easy.”
“Hm. Yeah, I guess so.” Jason offers her a pointed look now, a glimmer of excitement overcoming his own eyes. “And what about you? How are you and Shel?”
Now it’s Piper’s turn to blush. She stuffs her cheeks with another bite of cake, and watching her do so, Jason laughs merrily.
“Well,” she huffs after swallowing her food, “we’re good. We’re considering doing long distance for college. We’ll give it a try.”
Jason nods, and an almost pitiful look comes into his eyes. “Bet that’s gotta suck to leave her behind. But I have faith in you guys.” He nudges her. “And, if it doesn’t work out, then that’s fine, too. We’re still growing and we’re still learning. We still have a lot of life to live.”
Piper shrugs in reluctant agreement, but at his words, a chill of dread trickles down her back.
Growth. It’s all about growth. Life is about blooming and thriving, about setting up roots in one place and being ready to get transported to new soil whenever Fate decides it. As beautiful as growth can be, sometimes Piper wishes she could just stay in one state of mind for a while. But life just feels like a constant shift, a constant rotation of changes. It gets a little tiring.
She sighs and picks on a thread against her sweatshirt sleeve. “Jason,” murmurs the demigod, “I- I miss everything. You know? I miss the old days. Like, don’t get me wrong, I love how much we’ve all grown and stuff, but it’s just… I miss being with everyone again. I feel lost sometimes.”
Jason nods his head and gazes wistfully out to the trees. “Yeah,” he whispers. “Like, I don’t miss the danger and fear and trauma. But I miss the chaos and stuff in our group. Remember when we got Leo to snort all those Smarties on the ship one night?” A huff of laughter echoes from Jason’s chest, but this one isn’t as full as the others. It’s a little empty, like he’s laughing into the past. “Man, that was fun.”
Piper snorts. “Yeah. Poor Leo.”
Another curtain of silence falls between them, but this one is tense, high-strung, almost as if it’s waiting for some kind of confession.
Piper sighs and leans her head against Jason’s shoulder. He flinches at the contact a little but - after accepting her touch - he leans his own head against hers. Piper locks her elbow with his and closes her eyes, losing herself in the warmth of their bodies.
“I miss you,” she says. “I know we never really had any romantic feelings for each other, but… I miss our vibe, you know? I miss our friendship.” She smiles softly at him. “You were my best friend, Jason. You are my best friend. I guess I just miss being with you and Leo as a group together.” She rubs her finger over his wrist in an attempt to ground herself. “I just miss when it was us three against the world. Now we’re… growing farther apart. Living on different sides of the country.”
Jason sighs. “We miss you too, Piper. Trust me. Every night I always feel… I don’t know. I feel like we’re always missing some important piece of us. That important piece is you.” He chuckles sadly. “We can’t be the gay trio while you’re in some totally different state.”
Piper laughs hollowly. After another beat of silence, she whispers, “We’re growing up, Jason. I don’t know if I’m ready for that.”
Jason doesn’t respond for a while. Piper looks up at him, wondering where his voice has gone, but finds that his gaze is fixated upon the trees. He’s not quite here, not in her hands; instead, he’s drifting over some other plane of reality, thinking through all that’s around him.
Finally, after what seems like hours, he says, “Yeah, we are. And it hurts to leave so much of our past behind. But… growing up doesn’t have to be all bad. Think of it like an important milestone for us.” He turns and smiles at her. “Everyday that we live and grow, we’re achieving greatness. We’re pushing the Fates and daring them to hurt us. We’re reaching closer to our destiny, if you believe in that stuff.” His fingers grapple with hers and he squeezes softly. At Jason’s touch, a spark of joy jolts up Piper’s arm and explodes in her core. “We’re growing,” he murmurs, “and while that can be sad, I think there’s a lot of power knowing that we’re making it as far as we are.”
A comfortable, fleeting warmth blooms in Piper’s chest as she gazes up at Jason. Only love and admiration for her glimmer in his eyes, and for once in her life, Piper feels like she’s been found.
“So philosophical,” she chuckles. Then she squeezes his hand and leans closer to him. “I love you, Jason. Thanks for being my best friend.”
“I love you, too.” Then, in a sudden movement, he throws his other arm around her and sighs contentedly. “You deserve the world,” he whispers. “Happy birthday, Piper.”

The Poor Character Developments in the Heroes of Olympus Series
Rick Riordan doesn’t know how to write character arcs ✨
-Percy. What arc did he even have? From The Last Olympian to The Son of Neptune it seems like he just got more arrogant and douchey, and this is never explained or expanded on. The readers don’t know why he suddenly got so arrogant. His pride got out of control and he was doing things he knew he couldn’t do but jumped into anyway like attacking a giant head-on alone. He was reckless in PJO, but every time he always had a plan. In HoO he just turned careless. He even put other demigods’ lives at risk at times and honestly didn’t do much throughout the series. He was just kind of there, not really contributing to anything and only involved when the book needed comedic relief or to remind the readers that ‘Hey, Percy is super cool and powerful’. As for his arc, he didn’t change at all. He just got annoying and way too self-involved and vain. I mean- he was literally in front of Hercules, the man who broke Zoë Nightshade’s heart- the girl who literally sacrificed herself for Percy- and he didn’t even say or do anything? He didn’t even mention Zoë or think about her at all. All he was worried about was how ‘big-shot Jason’ got to meet the all-famous Hercules and he didn’t. And this never changed. Percy’s character arc was completely flat cause he never learned from his lessons or mistakes. Even when in Tartarus and was reminded of all the people that he lost during the Second Titan War, how he forgot about Calypso on her island for over two years, and how he left Bob the Titan alone in the Underworld, he didn’t make any move to change. After that scene, he completely forgot to even mention them again.
-Annabeth. Same thing with Annabeth, except her realism was ripped from her. She was well-written in PJO with actual flaws and weaknesses, relationships outside of her romantic one with Percy, a very important and crucial role, fighting bravely, etc., but in HoO, she- just like Percy- was pretty much dead weight, and she became extremely weak. The only thing she really accomplished was following the Mark of Athena and getting the Athena Parthenos, but she still had to be saved by everyone else, and honestly any other demigod could’ve done it way faster. Nico literally could’ve just shadow-travelled to the statue then shadow-travelled it back out. The only times she fought (which was very few times) she was always with another demigod, and the two-three times she actually fought she always had to be saved, by a newbie, especially. In the Temple of Fear, Piper ‘toughened’ her up and saved her three times from the giant Mimas, and when caught by the giants, Piper was the one to save Annabeth (again). She couldn’t do anything by herself without others having to save or help her. And she also became very dull. She didn’t have any more of her pride, short temper, care, ferocity, etc. All she was was a Percy fangirl. Everything was about him and him only. This also didn’t change. We didn’t see any improvement or alterations to her personality whatsoever.
-Jason. The majority of the fandom doesn’t like Jason- which is understandable- but they hate on him for the wrong reasons. They dislike him cause he was ‘boring’ despite him actually having multiple distinct personality traits. They just think he didn’t have any personality cause his traits weren’t directly commented on like the other characters’ were (which is actually bad writing, readers should be able to interpret a character’s personality without it being stated to them by other characters). And he even had a sense of humor. His character arc though...fell short. But! He could’ve had an amazing character arc, Riordan just focused on the wrong parts. Riordan’s take on Jason’s character arc was deciding if he was more ‘Greek or Roman’ and then deciding he was both. But...that makes no sense, cause that’s just stereotyping every single Greek and every single Roman. The fandom says that the Romans are the cruel, harsh, and merciless ones, but what about Hazel? Or Frank? Or Reyna? Or the fact that they immediately accepted Nico while Camp Half-Blood outcasted and even ostracized him? And they say that the Greeks are the fun, cool, relaxed ones, but what about Percy, the only character to canonically torture? Or Annabeth, the unfriendly bossy one? Or Thalia, the merciless, ambitious hunter? Or Piper, the prejudiced manipulator? So really, Jason’s character arc made no sense. It was written to be Jason going from ‘always following the rules and following expectations because of his godly parent’ to ‘doing whatever he wants’, but the fandom forgets that Camp Jupiter is the one who doesn’t care about godly parent, Camp Half-Blood does, cause Camp Jupiter has demigods live in barracks for the sole purpose of demigods without family members not having to live alone while Camp Half-Blood separates cabins and tables by parentage and immediately set Percy to high standards after he was claimed. Besides, does Camp Jupiter have harpies that literally kill demigods if they’re out past curfew? Plus, Jason was breaking multiple rules before his character arc anyways- leaving Camp Jupiter, sailing across the Mediterranean Sea, etc.
-Piper. Oh boy. Where to start with this one. I’ve already gone over how her horribly-portrayed backstory ruined the chances of a good character arc, but now let’s discuss the character arc she actually had. And the best way to describe it is ‘tell not show’. The main idea for Piper’s character arc was that she felt insecure about herself and useless and that she gained confidence in herself and her powers, but that’s not actually what happened, because starting from The Lost Hero, Piper showed multiple narcissistic tendencies that showed that she had a huge ego and placed herself on a pedestal she did nothing to earn or deserve. This is first shown with femininity- Piper immediately thinks that she’s better and above any girl if they so much as wear lip gloss or a dress, which is a sign of an obvious ego: thinking you’re better than everyone else (or in her case, a certain group of people) before getting to know them first. It’s also shown when her and Annabeth are looking for a weapon for Piper and when suggested that she doesn’t choose a dagger cause she’s a newbie, Piper retaliates with “But you use a dagger”...aka thinking she’s already on Annabeth’s level and that she can do whatever Annabeth can despite being a newbie. It’s not hypocrisy if Annabeth has been training for over nine years. Another example would be in The Mark of Athena-  "Piper's eyes flashed defiantly, like anything Reyna could do, she could do". Like, no, she can’t, cause Reyna has been training her whole life and Piper doesn’t even know her. Piper shows multiple signs of having a very high opinion of herself, including degrading others (especially other women) for her own sake, thinking she can do what anyone else can, thinking she’s better than everyone else, constantly fussing over her appearance, thinking she deserves everything she’s gotten and that she deserves more without earning it, etc., so her entire character arc wasn’t even there. She just went from quiet about her narcissism to openly expressing it. She never grew from her horrible traits and habits, never realized she was wrong by jumping all over Jason while he was amnesiac, etc., and the whole ‘feeling of uselessness’ was brought up once then never expanded on or mentioned ever again, and nor was her internalized misogyny and fiery hatred towards femininity (which wasn’t even explained). Riordan should’ve used the ‘snobby rich girl learns to be kinder and more modest’ or expanded on the fact that Piper almost killed her friends multiple times. In Katoptris, she saw Jason with gold eyes in Kansas then said ‘Let’s go to Kansas!’ She saw her, Jason, and Percy literally drowning and legit said ‘Let’s go drown!’ without telling them about what she actually saw in her dagger. She saw her and Annabeth exploring some ruins and said ‘Let’s go!’ despite knowing the visions were deadly. She put all of her friends in multiple, life-threatening situations and never felt guilty and wasn’t even called out on it, because no one said if the visions in Katoptris were fate- something you can’t avoid- or destiny- something you can choose and change.
-Frank. Frank’s character arc was clear, but it happened in the wrong way. The main idea of his development was that he was insecure about his appearance then gained confidence from it, but he did only after he magically gained rippling abs and muscle. He only felt good about himself once he lost all his fat as if that’s not obvious lookism, fatphobia, and fat shaming (thanks, Riordan). Frank should’ve learned to love himself despite his flab and appearance and learned that it didn’t matter what he looked like cause he would still be a hero either way. He should’ve shown the readers that ‘Hey, I don’t care what I look like, cause appearance doesn’t matter, whether you choose to do the right thing or not does’, but it was wasted for fat shaming every single reader who was insecure about their weight and didn’t or couldn’t get skinnier and telling them that they should be insecure about themselves because they don’t look like Frank. Is it really so hard for society to believe that a lot of people who aren’t stick-thin are happy and confident about their body?
-Hazel. Honestly, her character arc was one of the most confusing ones, cause she didn’t have anything to drive or even start one. Her backstory is tragic, yes, but there isn’t anything in it that she has to learn to change from cause all of that was resolved when she took down Alcyoneus and Gaea. The only thing I can think of is learning to break away from toxic people even if they’re your family or friend or cause you don’t want to hurt their feelings, but Hazel didn’t struggle with relationships at all. She wasn’t even introduced to any toxic people besides Octavian, and she already hated him. Her transition from the racist and segregated days to the modern world could’ve been really good material for a character arc along with internalized racism- she of all people (someone born and raised in segregation who was taught to hate herself and her skin tone) would grow up thinking that there was something wrong with her because of her dark skin tone and- especially after meeting so many different people of different ethnic groups and skin colors- could’ve learned to love herself and learn that skin tone doesn’t define you (which also would’ve been a perfect lesson for younger readers). Another thing that puzzled me about her ‘development’ was her powers. Her Mist control powers are cool, but what would’ve been cooler was if she was reluctant to use them because she wouldn’t want to twist the minds of people just like Gaea did to her mom. Her gem and metal control powers could’ve been expanded on but they were barely mentioned after The Son of Neptune. As for her curse, that...made absolutely no sense. Her curse was honestly just dead weight. It wasn’t even that one thing that had a lot of potential, it didn’t even have potential, cause what would she ever use it for? It was just used to make her backstory sadder, but it was never mentioned again or even explained. The only thing it could’ve been used for (and what I was hoping would happen) was if one her friends or allies took one of her cursed jewels and died because of it. The one thing I was really hoping to see in her character arc was from the quote she said to Hecate after Hecate gave her the three paths to choose from- “I’m not choosing one of your paths. I’m making my own.” This really sparked my interest because almost everything Hazel had gone through was forced onto her by others without her consent. She didn’t choose to be born into racism and segregation. She didn’t choose to be cursed. She didn’t choose to be used as a pawn by Gaea through her mother. She didn’t choose to almost raise a giant and nearly bring upon the apocalypse. She didn’t choose to use her curse against others and move to multiple places. She didn’t choose to be brought back to life. She didn’t choose to be brought to Camp Jupiter and thrown into an army. She didn’t choose to be a part of the Seven and face the same woman who used her and had her mother possessed years ago. The only two choices she made herself- destroying the island and Alcyoneus and sacrificing Elysium so her mother wouldn’t go to the Fields of Punishment- and she and her mother died because of it and she went to Asphodel for years. I was really hoping to see Hazel break free from others always making decisions for her and learn to make her own choices, but that never happened.
-Leo: His character arc was also very confusing, but because it was all over the place. Riordan kept switching up Leo’s internal problems; forgetting about one of them and jumping to another, jumping to three different others, and then going back to the first one a few chapters later. It was so confusing. And then- in the end- he focused on the worst problem Leo had- not finding a love interest. I mean, who exactly focuses on whether or not they have a girlfriend while in the middle of a war and fighting to survive again? I liked Leo’s other problems- guilt over and blaming himself for his mother’s death, seeing his fire powers as a curse instead of a gift, forcing himself to hide his pain with humor instead of opening up to people, running away from all his problems, and his abandonment issues and constant fear of being left out and alone, but they were all replaced with ‘He felt like the seventh wheel’ (cause yes, Riordan, if you don’t have a love interest, you are immediately lesser than anyone who does, obviously). Leo got over his mother’s death in The Lost Hero- which, great- but after that nothing too memorable changed about his character. He never even used or mentioned his fire powers after The Lost Hero, he continued to hide all his pain with humor, hide his emotions from other people, and never learned to open up to others about his pain and trauma, he never learned to stop running away from his powers (shown by when he faked his own death without bothering to talk to the others about feeling left out), and his abandonment issues and fears were never expanded on, he just ran into the arms of a girl who verbally abused and constantly insulted him AKA ran to the person who gave him attention, even if it was the bad kind of attention, as if that’s not something emotionally scarred people and people with abandonment issues do, and he never grew from accepting unfair hate and criticism.
-Nico. His character development was actually pretty good. From going to an energetic, cheerful, and playful kid to becoming a quiet, closed-off, and independent teen who struggled with depression and feeling alone and like he didn’t belong, to finding comfort in his family and friends (especially Reyna, Hazel, and Will) and learning to accept himself for who he was (as a son of Hades and as gay) and how to confide in others about his struggles, problems, and trauma and finally letting people in after being do dubious of people after Percy broke his promise to protect Bianca, he found out that King Minos was using him, and almost all of Camp Half-Blood excluded and ignored him. After being alone for most of his life, by the end of The Blood of Olympus, he has two homes (as stated by Reyna), is comfortable with people hugging him, allowed people to take care of and help him, decided to stay at Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter instead of isolating himself, made a bunch of new friends that helped him through his struggles, and he even showed multiple signs of healing from his depression and anxiety. His character development was pretty well-written. But, there was one thing wrong with it that kind of ruined the rest- his love life. Nico had an incredible character arc that could’ve taught multiple valuable lessons to younger readers, but most of it was ditched after he came out as gay in The House of Hades. Throughout all of his point of views in The Blood of Olympus, Nico never thought about any of his past trauma or struggles, Bianca, his new family and friends, etc. Pretty much all he thought about was finding out how to come out to the others and Percy. And while mustering the courage to come out is a huge deal and is great material for a character arc, Riordan never actually utilized it. Nico telling Reyna he was gay was really touching (best duo) and telling Percy he had a crush on him was great, but after that, his entire character was about his attraction towards Will (which was way too rushed, but that’s for another rant), and it got pretty annoying cause it made it obvious that Riordan only confirmed him gay for publicity by trying to shove it in the reader’s faces as if every gay person needs to have a boyfriend to validate and prove their sexuality. Riordan should’ve stayed on track with Nico’s original character arc.
-Reyna. THE BEST CHARACTER ARC. Hers was actually really good. She started off trying to do everything on her own because she believed that she had to be strong enough to do things by herself without help from others to learning that it’s okay to ask for help. She also started off with the (quite serious and traumatizing) problem of bottling all her emotions because she believed that she always had to put on a strong, brave face for others without showing any signs of weakness to learning that it’s okay to express your emotions and confide in others (and again, that it’s okay to ask for help). This was mostly evident after she met Nico, which (in my opinion) kick-started her motivation to change because once she saw how much Nico needed help and giving him that support and comfort, realized that everyone is allowed to ask for help and started confiding in Nico as well. I like how she stayed strict and serious cause she has a formal job- a job that’s equivalent to an American’s president, that is- so she’s supposed to be serious, and she’s only strict cause she wants to protect her people. Though I do hate when people misjudge her as ‘cold-hearted’ or ‘cruel’ because Reyna is actually one of the kindest and most selfless characters in the series. Even Pegasus (the immortal lord of the pegasi) was ‘touched’ by Reyna’s ‘compassion’ towards Scipio (he didn’t even say that to Percy about Blackjack), and it’s pretty obvious she cares deeply about her family, friends, and people. And overall, her character arc was easily the best-written one in HoO. But then Riordan- just like he does with most things in this series- completely trashed her character arc just so he could have the opportunity to make fun of wlw readers who thought Reyna and Thalia would be a good couple by making her leave everything behind for the Hunters of Artemis just cause she ‘couldn’t find a love interest’ as if joining the Hunters is the only option for single female demigods instead of just...living a normal demigod life without a partner without leaving everything they know and love behind for no reason other than their shitty love life.

Hear me out but Percy and squad meet Celtic demigods!
If the Romans are strict and the Greek’s are relaxed the Celts are completely adhoc.
The Gods unlike the Greeks/Romans generally chose to stay in there home lands, mainly because they don’t get along with the Roman aspects due to the fact you invaded my territory, murdered my people and my Priests and if you even think of looking at Europe again I will kick your ass so hard you’ll wish you were trapped in tartars.
This means there kids also hate the Romans and will fight them given the smallest opportunity. The Greeks just watch the carnage unfold before them.
There are about eight different permanent Camps that deal with different pantheons for each region/country.
The camps are all in tenuous alliance with on another but don’t really interact above. “There are monsters attacking us, send help.” Or “We have some kids on a quest coming your way make sure they don’t die.”
All the camps are lead by a group of Druid elders who totally haven’t had a my Camp and kids are better than yours thing running for centuries, they are entirely professional.
The Camps will often have mock/real battless with one another on the regular with the Druids acting as over invested football dads.
“That spear doesn’t count! You useless tosser!” “Don’t start with me you English fuck!!”
Percy gets on pretty well with the other sea kids, and there are lots of them, but they have a bit of an ongoing feud with the river kids and because he can control both bodies of water he’s considered a neutral party in disputes.
Percy meeting a kelpi, “wanna go for a ride?” “Wanna go for a die sea boi?” Some River kids see what’s going on and have to rescue him because yes that nice looking horse would of eaten him, and yes it’s not actually a horse but an incredible deadly river spirit.
Celtic kids are really confused why the Greeks shun kids of Death Gods because most of there parents have some death aespect in one way or another?
Athena and Morrigan kids sharing battle strategy notes.
Brigid and Apollo kids writing poetry together and making there new Greek friends some awesome weapons.
“Wait if your both children of Cernunnos why can she raise the dead and you can do things with plants?” “She conceived in his winter aspect obviously.”
Greeks be like this is our prophet , she is the only one. While Druids and a lot of Celtic demigods are like give me some entrails, throw me some bones and I’ll have the answer to your question in like two minutes.
“Wait you don’t do any type of divination? You don’t even read signs???”
A selki turns up at camp and a Greek kid gives them or finds there coat and the Celt kids are like your married now. Congrats on your Selki marriage.
Percy has some interesting conversations with the lock Ness monster.
Scottish demigods leave porridge and milk out for Brownies and only one Greek kid has ever seen them. No one quiet believed them.
The first meeting with the Fay is a disaster, some poor Greek kid ends up as a pet and several just disappear into stone circle.
“We need to go and rescue our friends!” “I’m dude points for bravery but if you bring them out they’ll be over 200 years old. You know time works differently there right? Right?!”
There are a few gaelic kids who were tricked by fae when they were younger but only in a tiny amount so like they accepted a gift that they shouldn’t but their godly parent is protecting them but they could be claimed by their technical owner at any moment. The first time a fae walks into the middle of their thoroughly warded camp to do this all the Greeks pull their weapons, the Celts just hope they’re not there for them.
It is after the fae incident the Greeks learn that none of the Celts use their real names.
Which is why it’s such a big deal when they tell you there real name.
One day an unseelie fae just turns up and kills 30 of the kids for killing an important plant of theirs. One of the Celtic demigods makes a deal with a more powerful unseelie fae to defeat them. The other Celts don’t ask what the deal was. A while later the kid disappears. The Celtic kids stop saying their name and just refer to them as ‘the lost one’ the greek kids remember the stories mentioning other ‘lost one’ they had assumed it was one person. They stop saying their name too.
They later visit a hill in the kids homelands and every kid in that kids camp leaves a stone that has the lost ones original name in runes (whichever their deity uses) on the hill. The Greek kids think about the little piles of rune stones each kid carries, some of the Greek kids think of the carving that happened the first time they took part in a seasonal ritual with a particular camp and the small stone that each of the camps members had given them. They kept those stones a little closer.
Whenever a kid is in their parents kingdom eg by their river, on their land the parent turns up and says hello and glares at the kids of a similar affinity from a different area. Eg they’d cross the border into Scotland and caeliach would come say hi to her kids or the kids of deities on her land and then glare at ambisagrus’ kids.
“Your parents talk to you?!” “Yours don’t? How do you find out about quests!”

“Aster lives in the low-deck slums of the HSS Matilda, a space vessel organized much like the antebellum South. For generations, the Matilda has ferried the last of humanity to a mythical Promised Land. On its way, the ship's leaders have imposed harsh moral restrictions and deep indignities on dark-skinned sharecroppers like Aster, who they consider to be less than human.
When the autopsy of Matilda's sovereign reveals a surprising link between his death and her mother's suicide some quarter-century before, Aster retraces her mother's footsteps. Embroiled in a grudge with a brutal overseer and sowing the seeds of civil war, Aster learns there may be a way off the ship if she's willing to fight for it.”

“When adventure comes for Amani, it is not what she expects: she is kidnapped by the regime and taken in secret to the royal palace, where she discovers that she is nearly identical to the cruel half-Vathek Princess Maram. The princess is so hated by her conquered people that she requires a body double, someone to appear in public as Maram, ready to die in her place.”
