It’s impossible to sneak up on Steve
Like, actually impossible
Dude has eyes in the back of his head. It’s some kind of mom superpower. (Or maybe it’s just the hypervigilance. Whatever)
Eddie first notices because the kids try to sneak past him a couple of times and he always catches them
He even calls them out by name. And he’s always right
Every single time
He catches Henderson trying to get a snack before they’re about to eat (not that Henderson particularly cares he’s been caught; he eats his chips without remorse)
He catches Small Wheeler trying to smuggle an R-rated movie over the Buckley’s side of the counter while Steve’s back is turned (not that Buckley would’ve rented it to him)
He catches Red and Supergirl both sneaking junk food into the cart while they’re out grocery shopping (neither of them are repentant, and Steve rolls his eyes but does exactly nothing about it)
Eddie’s interest is piqued
The first time he tries sneaking up on Steve, Steve catches him before he gets within three feet
How
“You jingle when you walk, Eddie.”
Okay, yeah, that’s fair
Next time, Eddie takes off his wallet chain and all his jewelry
Steve still catches him before he gets close enough to reach out and touch
“Your shoes squeak.”
Eddie’s pretty sure they don’t, actually, but fine. The shoes are next to go
And Steve still fucking catches him. Eddie can hear the goddamn smile in his voice as he says “Hi, Eddie,” just as Eddie is reaching out to grab his waist
“I could smell your shampoo.”
He could smell Eddie’s shampoo?
His fucking shampoo??
Alright, no, actually, that’s kind of sweet. But Eddie can’t exactly stop using shampoo, because then Steve will probably just be able to smell his hair grease or something. Eddie has to get creative, but he makes sure he’s not downwind of the AC vent next time
Yet Steve is the one who manages to ambush Eddie while Eddie is ambushing Steve, turning around and pulling Eddie right into him before Eddie can pounce, kissing him hard and quick, asking if that’s what Eddie was going for when he pulls away
Half dazed, half aroused, entirely frustrated, Eddie demands to know how the fuck Steve caught him this time, and Steve shrugs
“It just... feels different, when there’s someone behind you. The air, maybe? I dunno.”
Is this man even human?
(Given the general state of... everything, Eddie feels this is a legitimate question)
But Eddie isn’t one to give up once he becomes fixated, so he bides his time
He waits
And he waits
And he waits, until it seems like Steve is engaged in something distracting enough that he’s not going to be paying attention to how the room behind him feels, or however the fuck that works, and takes his shot
AND HE SUCCEEDS
He has to promise never to do it again, because his ribs are now bruised from Steve’s very surprised elbow, and Steve is mad and handing him and ice pack and bitching at him at full volume, but y’know what?
Fucking worth it

I’m back with more Funnybunny. I’m not sure how well I did with this one, since it kinda just… emerged. Like my last one. It discusses some heavy stuff, but there’s a big fat gross kiss at the end to compensate. Also, Kinger and Zooble cameo at the beginning.
T/W: Depression and discussions of/tasteless Jax jokes about s*icide
Strange Bedfellows
The Stage was empty in the morning. Caine was nowhere to be found. It would be eerily quiet in the tent were it not for Kinger’s mumbling. The oldest performer at the circus paced in a circle around the stage
Kinger: *nervous sing-song* Caine’s not here, Caine’s not here, Caine’s not here…~ We’re gonna miss doing the introooo, Caine’s not here…
*Zooble and Pomni enter from backstage. Zooble rolls their eyes*
Zooble: Ugh, I knew it. KINGER!
*Kinger yelps, flailing his hands around before relaxing a tiny bit*
Kinger: Zooble! New girl! I forgot you were there!
Pomni: Uh, we weren’t-
*Kinger hurries over to them, panting almost comically loud*
Kinger: Caine’s not here! I looked everywhere! *counting on his fingers* The tent, outside, the tent, my room, the basement, the tent- *he grabbed his head* But he’s nowhere! We’re gonna miss the intro and I don’t wanna break the ruuuules!
Zooble: *putting a claw to their forehead* %€$&$ €#£!$#, Kinger, it’s update day. Caine isn’t here because he’s getting a software update. He told us yesterday. And the day before that.
*Kinger suddenly stands up a lot straighter*
Kinger: Oh. So… no adventure today?
Pomni: R-Right. No adventure today.
Zooble: And you’re out here keeping me awake. Come on, Peepaw, let’s get you to bed.
*Zooble takes Kinger’s hand and walks him back towards the bedrooms*
Kinger: My name is Kinger, actually.
*The three of them head back into the hallway. Zooble pauses to look at Pomni*
Zooble: Hey, Pomni. Word of advice. Try and enjoy the quiet moments. They don’t happen all that often.
Kinger: And remember! If you’re quiet and you stay still, they won’t notice you as quickly!
Pomni: Uh… thanks guys. Enjoy your day off.
Pomni waved goodbye and sighed a bit. It wasn’t like she wanted to hang out with “the gang,” but… it beat being alone with her thoughts. She wasn’t quite sure where everyone had gone… unless literally EVERY OTHER PERSON was asleep. Which… was possible, admittedly. She chewed her lip a bit before going back to her room.
Pomni: Enjoy the quiet… *she sighs*
Being alone with her thoughts and no distractions, no way that could go wrong. Sure enough, not long after she shut the door, a creeping misery drooled into her belly. She was never getting out of here… no ifs, ands, or buts. If she didn’t go crazy and turn into one of those abstract creatures, she’d end up a paranoid wreck like Kinger, and everyone else would go crazy. There was no winning. Game over. You lose. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.
Pomni: I don’t care. *she lies out loud to herself.*
She flopped lifelessly onto her bed, staring at the wall. Maybe if she closed her eyes, she could convince her overcharged brain that it needed some rest. The dark only made her more aware of how much it hurt inside. God did it ever hurt… It wasn’t like a cut where the pain went away after a while. It was like a burn, it just kept on flaring up with new pain long after the initial damage. There was no point to anything… she was a jester forever, a fool for people to laugh at. Not even people… for FAKE people to laugh at. Less than zero.
Pomni: Someone shoot me…
Jax: I got a squirt gun.
Pomni’s eyes flew open, finding her face just a few inches from Jax’s, who rested on the other side of the bed with a big, smarmy grin on his face.
Pomni: JAX-! *she jolts back, scrabbling on the bedsheets for something to grab but ultimately falling off the bed onto her butt*
Jax: Hey Pompom. Comfy bed you got here.
Pomni rose to her feet, hands curled into fists.
Pomni: What the #%!! are you-
Jax: Doing in your room? You left the door unlocked when you went out with Zooble. You gotta get better about that if you want privacy.
Pomni: Jax. I don’t… *tries to start talking, and stops* Can you… Can I… I just want to be alone okay?
Jax: So you can do… what?
Pomni: Sleep.
Jax: You weren’t sleeping.
Pomni: I was trying to.
Jax: Sounded more like you were feelin’ sorry for yourself.
Pomni: Sometimes I can do both, okay? Now get off my bed.
Jax gave an exaggerated stretch before snuggling deeper into Pomni’s pillow. The jester quaked with frustration before turning and stomping to her door. If Jax wanted to be an ass, she’d just go find somewhere else to mope.
Jax: So why do you want to get shot?
Pomni stopped in her tracks.
Pomni: Why do you think?
Jax: Why do I think? Could be for any reason. Maybe you read some of Gangle’s fanfiction. One chapter of that would have me reaching for the Clorox.
Pomni: *fake, derisive laughter* Ha ha ha, you’re sooo funny.
Jax: I’m just sayin’, Pompom, you-
Pomni: Don’t. Call me. POMPOM!
The ensuing silence was palpable. Pomni gave a small gasp and covered her mouth with one hand. She couldn’t remember the last time she had shouted at somebody like that. Sure, she had told off Jax before, but that shout came from somewhere dark and primal…
Jax: Yowza.
Pomni: …I… I didn’t mean to shout like that. I’m sorry… Are you okay?
Jax: *looks back and forth* Yeah? Are you?
Pomni: No.
Jax: Dumb question. Anyway, I’ve razzed you enough. I’ll let you be alone.
Jax hops down off the bed, tucking his hands behind his head and walking towards the door. A hand grabbed him by the back pocket of his overalls.
Jax: Uh-
Pomni: …I’m sorry. *she looks down at the floor*
Jax: It’s… fine?
Pomni: …Jax, I don’t want you to leave. I’m sorry.
Jax: You already said you’re sorry. Can you let go of my pants?
Pomni: I’m sorry, I didn’t… *she lets go* I’m sorry…
Jax: Pomni. What are you sorry for?
Pomni: I… I yelled at you, I-
Jax: I get yelled at all the time. It’s sorta my thing. *awkward smirk*
Pomni: Don’t go… I’m sorry.
Jax: Okay. Come on. You need to calm down.
Without warning, Jax puts his hands under Pomni’s armpits and hoists her up off her feet.
Pomni: Wh- HEY! Jax, what are you-?!
Jax: You’re in one of those… loops. I know how it works. Also, WOW, you weigh like six pounds.
He plopped her onto her bed. Pomni barely had time to register what just happened before Jax sat beside her.
Jax: Look, Pompom… Sorry. Pomni. It’s okay to be sad. It’s okay to be depressed. It’s okay to yell sometimes. But…
He sighed and thought a minute. A faint blush lit up his face.
Jax: You don’t… need to do all that by yourself. I don’t want you to hurt all alone.
Pomni: …Is that why you snuck here? You were worried about me?
The pink on Jax’s cheeks grew more pronounced as he crossed his arms.
Jax: Y-Yeah, whatever you want to believe.
Pomni took his hand, a tiny, grateful smile across her face. Jax tried his best to look uninterested, but it wasn’t a very convincing look. Pomni held his other hand and there was an electric silence as they looked at each other.
Pomni: I… don’t…
The invisible barrier fell down and their lips met. It was a kiss of both inexperience and pent-up emotion. Both the jester and the rabbit felt all their reservations melt away as they kissed each other. It didn’t matter if someone found out. It didn’t matter if one of them was going to die later… they wanted this. They NEEDED this.
Jax fell onto his back as Pomni climbed on top of him. There was a moment of hesitation before they began to kiss again. Tender but eager. Pomni let out a fluttery sigh from the very back of her throat as she felt Jax’s hand on the back of her head. Gentle, wordless encouragement…
At some point, the kiss broke and they laid apart from each other on opposite sides of the bed, flushed and panting.
Pomni: …Are you okay?
Jax: Y-Yeah. Better than okay.
Pomni: I think I am too. I’m… I…
Pomni blinked in surprise.
Pomni: …I’m tired.
Jax: That’s okay.
Pomni: …Will you stay with me?
Jax: Yeah. Course. Definitely.
Pomni could tell he was still processing what just happened. But it was okay. Maybe it wouldn’t be okay later… but for now it was okay. She rolled over and laid her head on his chest, holding his hand. She felt him squeeze it.
Moments later she fell asleep.

4-Sided Dive Highlights - Critical Role C3 up to E38 (Nov. 1, 2022)
Good afternoon, all! It's rainy and lovely here and this accursed week is finally over, so let's join Marisha, Sam, Matt, and Taliesin on this week's episode. Matt wins host & intros us from a Laudna-dark-dimension-themed spiel. "Taliesin Jaffe's current character, Ashton, got to argue with Taliesin Jaffe's old character, Percy, giving form to the internal strife between our old egos and the audacity of the now." Omar arrives to be held in the last segment and he remains adorable.
What the Fuck is Up With That? Matt got to be most of VM except for Scanlan, Grog, and Vax. Sam: "Percy is a dick!" Matt says him being in charge of the only source of residuum in the world and watching his weapons stretch across the world has stressed him out. Taliesin was very impressed with Matt's portrayal of both Percy and Delilah and agrees that with Delilah present and Percy as paranoid as he is, it all felt true to form. Matt says with all his trauma Percy would have let Laudna "go" (I think he means "stay dead" in this context). Sam: "Whitestone is a paranoid place."
Matt knew when Orym & Laudna were created that he might have to play C1 characters. He was nervous about it and hoped it wouldn't happen, but as the story leaned that way he knew he'd need to be ready. When they ended the episode going through the Sun Tree, Matt emailed Taliesin and asked him about where Percy would be in the world, his relationship with Keyleth & Whitestone, etc. All the players agreed they did NOT want to play their old characters alongside their new ones: "That would have been SO confusing." Matt knew they were excited about the mystery as well.
Keyleth and Percy are okay. She was distracted and had places to be. "When you're friends for a long time, you can agree a lot of the time and occasionally not agree." Sam: "Are they having an affair?" Everyone else, repulsed: "No!" Marisha: "They wouldn't be having an affair. Vex would be totally in on it, let's be real." Tal: That's true, yeah. She would instigate it, to be honest."
Matt wanted Keyleth to stick around longer, but it was juggling too many characters. Sam says the longer she's onscreen, the higher the likelihood she turns into a fish and dies.
Matt wanted the old characters to be able to help, but wants the new ones to understand they are still small fries & need to find their own solutions.
As son as Vex realized the connection, she was eager to help. Tal likes that Laudna never put it together who Vex was; it makes it almost more cruel.
Percy is very close to Gwendolyn because he sees a lot of his bad qualities in her and is trying to guide them in a better direction.
The Matilda/Laudna confabulation was Matt showing Delilah was having a hard time keeping the illusions together.
She was born Matilda Bradbury and changed her name to Laudna after dying and living alone in the woods for a long time. She was losing touch with who she was. She doesn't hate the name Matilda, but had just become something else.
All three of Marisha's characters have Timeless Body by complete accident. Sam: "Seems like a cry for help." Marisha, aggrieved: "It's really hard being a woman in Hollywood, slowly aging! Let me have this!"
Sam loved the moving buildings. Marisha thought it was crazy seeing them experience her backstory without her being there.
Marisha had a small living room set up in the area where she was watching offscreen. Dani tells us everyone at the table at the end were the same people who were either taken by the Iron Shepherds or who passed away. Fascinating! Scripted!!!!
Sam talks about having never died and left the table as a player. Scanlan was only dead very briefly, and Tary came on right away after Scanlan left the party.
If FCG dies, they'll just put him in neutral and roll him down a hill until he kickstarts again.
The creature Matt created was the Shade of Delilah Briarwood and she was a creature rather than a full PC/NPC.
When Pike said there was a chance Delilah was gone forever, Matt rolled behind the screen and knows himself whether she is dead forever. He refuses to say to preserve the mystery. Tal suggests throwing Laudna in an acid pit to be sure.
Travis is the worst at trying to catch Matt off-guard in revealing secrets. Matt has deliberately "woven an aura of confusion" around what he's told Travis and others to keep from revealing too much.
Pate is a reflavored imp from the Pact of the Chain warlock ability.
If you had to do a one-man show of a piece of media, what would it be? Sam: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. He doesn't love the movie, but he's seen it so many times; Sam reveals he worked on a cruise ship when he was a teenager (!) and saw the same eight movies a thousand times. Bill & Ted, Memphis Belle, Adventures in Babysitting, Glengarry Glen Ross...incredible! Taliesin: SpaceCamp or Young Frankenstein. Marisha: Popeye movie.
Tower of Inquiry! Where did your character's names come from? We've had this question before, huh. "Matilda" came from a rabbit hole in Marisha's research, where she read about young girls who made silk flowers in the late 1800s in factories. They used a popular bright green paint (apparently a difficult color to manufacture) called Scheele's green which turned out to have arsenic in it, and one of the girls who died was called Matilda. FCG's name did in fact come from the article about how freshly cut grass screams. Ashton came from one of Taliesin's friend's names. Greymoore came from Tal's love of Dickensian slightly off-kilter names: Cratchet, Bumble, Greymoore.
Sam & Tal had a 2:1 with Matt prior to the first session, and Tal liked seeing Sam find the voice for FCG. Matt wondered if he should say something to Laura when she came up with the same voice later, but decided not to.
The EXU crew & Travis didn't have 1:1s because they already knew their characters from EXU & C1.
Favorite RP moments so far? Sam loved the dream journey with Imogen & giving couples' advice to the Green Seekers. Taliesin: loves his moments with Laudna & messing with Percy. Matt thought it was so fun to have such a mutual disdain & respect. Marisha: breaking the rock on the airship & all of the one on one conversations with everyone giving advice afterwards.
The Deep Dive! Laudna's mind was an extended skill check. Anything that fit with a heroic moment applied. If Orym hadn't found the tunnel under the house, they would have had to keep going through the forest with more Laudna memories, which would have drained them.
Tal really loved every moment of the Percy interactions & thought Matt did an amazing job. He loves playing Percy & would do it again anytime, but playing against him was satisfying too. He would have kept going for twenty more minutes if he could.
Scanlan would be okay with Laudna: she's weird & he likes weird. "He has a weird kink, but I don't know about the dead thing... You know, I've spent so much time with Scanlan at this point, I'd like to think no, but if I'm being honest..." Scanlan is probably splitting his time between Whitestone & Marquet.
Marisha didn't put any stipulations on Matt in terms of the resurrection ritual: "Whatever happens happens." She was willing to accept it if it went wrong, and Matt reminds us it got real close. She didn't want him to pad rolls. "Natural one..."
Eshteross knew the end was coming for him eventually. He got his affairs in order early & knew BH would be best suited for airship travel in the short term.
Ashton has worked really hard not to think about his parents until the Hishari helm made him face it. "You would be a coward and an idiot to not start figuring it out." He's only consciously & deliberately touched another member of the group for the first time in this last episode because everything hurts.
FCG was shocked by the discovery that he has a soul because suddenly he has a responsibility to it. It's easy to take care of other people when that's your designated role, but when you're forced to take care of yourself too, that's way harder. That FCG dying would be a loss for the world is more pressure. "It's a hard thing for them to swallow especially since they can't digest things."
Block break! Thanks a lot, tumblr. This didn't used to be a thing!
Having her friends fight Delilah for her felt like having your friends take care of you when you're way too drunk: "I didn't want anybody to have to do that."
Tower of Inquiry, Redux: Moments of greatest character impact so far? FCG: the flapping wings of the night. Laudna: dying. Ashton: getting out of the contract & everything that came with it. FCG: getting hooked up with the Changebringer.
Describe two characters stuck in an elevator. Hazel Copperpot & Keyleth are trapped; Hazel refuses to allow the doors to open for 15 minutes while she gets an interview. Nott & Taryon: Nott would think he's very handsome & then become instantly annoyed. Percy & Molly would have a terrible first 30 minutes but then be good friends. Gilmore & Essek: Matt does a little one-man-show where they appreciate each other's styles & comment on Essek's floating.
Sam approaches the Jenga tower with "the energy of a three-year-old." It's truly terrifying. Matt does still have pictures of key rolls on his phone. FCG has a new feature called Shared Exuberance that lets him get a little boost on a friend's natural 20. Cute name!
Post-Break Shenanigans: Hand to Hand Wombat! Our post-break game is a one I've never heard of. Players build a small tower of blocks while covering their eyes. One player is a secret tower saboteur. It's a good thing these rounds are 90 seconds long because this is CHAOTIC. Taliesin is the saboteur and is hilariously obvious about it. Votes are split between Tal & Sam and they all answer three questions at the same time as each other???? Why would you do this to me!!
Laudna is excited and happy to be back & is feeling a bit like a fever dream that she doesn't believe is real.
No way Eshteross could have survived alone. The BH could have maybe helped, but it still would have been close. He was doomed.
Ashton has kept the pain to himself for a long time and didn't know how to share it. Having it reveal in game the way it did was nice.
DON'T AT ME IF ANY OF THESE ARE WRONG, I DID MY BEST.
Game one, round two: wicked wombat wins again! This time Taliesin is clearly identified and eliminated. Victory to the others.
FCG likes that he's gotten to see other people's trauma, but it's been traumatic. He needs to bond with Laudna but is sad it will be so straightforward: "It'll just be like a waiting room. It'll be chips and snacks..."
Game two: Matt is a hideous liar, good Lord. Hilariously, he still wins the game despite being correctly eliminated in the first round.
Delilah was manipulating the shades of Laudna's parents.
FCG likes the Changebringer a lot, but Sam wonders if FCG needs something with more clarity and direction, like Catholicism.
Game three, round one: they get worse as this game goes on with no towers built. Tal is eliminated; I think the saboteur was Sam?
Marisha picked Pact of the Chain solely because she wanted to bring Pate to life.
Sam: "We can't play this game. It's killing me. I haven't touched this many humans in so long." Matt: "Building calluses already?" Sam: "My hand can't take this kind of strain."
Game three, round two: one tower built, no eliminations. Matt is convinced it's Marisha but Sam insists it was Tal.
FINALLY, I WANTED THIS QUESTION HOURS AGO: The thought process behind casting Compulsion on Laudna! Sam: "It was not a very good thought process, though, as Laura instantly shamed me. She was like, 'You know her history and you would do that to Laudna?' and I was like, 'Oh fuck, she's right. That's so stupid!'" Ashton seriously thought about cutting FCG off in the moment but didn't. Sam was just looking for spells that would help physically bring the soul back, and all of his healing spells were worthless. He was trying to avoid using Persuasion since they all know Imogen would be trying that one, and the DC increases every time the same skill is used. Matt talks about other ways to creatively use certain strengths in rituals like this, like Intimidating someone to return, or using Strength to help wake them up.
Taliesin loved Percy's office & would spend as much time there as he could. He wanted to see the streetlamps at night.
Game three, round three. Matt: "I told you it's Marisha!" Sam, desperately: "It is Marisha!!" All pretense is abandoned as she destroys their carefully built towers piece by piece. She was by far the best liar of the bunch! Amazing.
And that's a wrap! Is it Thursday yet?

The Fourth Wall
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anya: Kolya, those people are staring at us.
Nikolai: What people?
Anya: The internet people.
Nikolai: I don’t see anyone.
Anya: You can’t see them. They’re invisible. But, I can feel them staring at my ass.
Nikolai: Well, it is a stare-worthy ass, my love. You can’t reasonably expect people not to look, even invisible internet people.
Anya: What if i only want you to look? I didn’t come here to seduce the whole internet, after all, did I?
Nikolai: I thought you came here to shoot photos of J-pop idols and competitive snowboarders.
Anya: I did, but when I found out you were here, I couldn’t let such a golden opportunity slip through my hands.
Nikolai: Do you think seducing me is really necessary?
Anya: How else am I going to get what I want?
Nikolai: Just ask. Since when have I not been wrapped around your little finger?
Anya: All I have to do is ask, and you’ll do whatever I want?
Nikolai: Within reason.
Anya: Don’t worry. My request is perfectly reasonable, and besides, it’s not as if you’ve never done it for me before.
Nikolai: You really don’t have to manipulate me, in that case. We’ll have to go wherever you’re staying, though. I don’t know exactly when Eden and Charlie will be back, and I wouldn’t want them to show up while we were… busy.
Anya: Still protecting your baby Eden, I see.
Nikolai: You say that like it’s bad.
Anya: No, it’s adorable, even if it’s misguided. My guess is that he’s probably a lot more worldly than you think. He’s how old now? Twenty-two?
Nikolai: Yes.
Anya: I’ll bet he’s done all sorts of things you don’t know about.
Nikolai: Honestly, I’d rather not think about that.
Anya: Shall I distract you from thinking, then?
Nikolai: You’ve been doing that ever since you got here. Let’s go to your hotel or wherever you’re staying. It’s been way too long since last time, and I think we definitely need to catch up.
Anya: You know, I like all these rendez-vous and chance meetings. This is way more fun than when we were married.
Nikolai: As much as I don’t want to agree… I agree.
Anya: I knew you would. We’re like each other’s drug. We’re incredibly bad for one another, but impossible to give up.
Nikolai: I don’t think we’re all that bad for each other. I still love you, and I think we’re great as friends. We just sucked at being married.
Anya: For what it’s worth, I still love you, too.
Nikolai: That’s worth a lot to me, actually.
Anya: I’m glad.
Nikolai: Shall we go?
Anya: Do you think the internet people will follow us to the hotel? I’m not doing anything if they’re going to watch.
Nikolai: Has anyone ever told you that you’re a paranoid conspiracy theorist?
Anya: Just hear me out for a second. Have you ever seen that film? The one where everyone’s going about their daily lives until, one day, a guy accidentally discovers that we’re all really just simulations living inside a computer-generated environment? What if it’s really like that?
Nikolai: It’s not like that, Anushka. Come on. You’re being ridiculous.
Anya: Okay, fine, but I’m saying ‘I told you so’ when the secret computer program is revealed.
Nikolai: *laughing* You’re so weird, and I love that about you.
Anya: I’ll pretend that was a compliment.
Nikolai: It was.
Anya: I think I liked it better when you were unambiguously complimenting my ass.
Nikolai: I can do that some more, if you’d prefer.
Anya: Yes, please, but don’t limit yourself to one area. I have other assets, you know.
Nikolai: I’m well aware.
Anya: Hmm… you always did know how to appreciate me better than anyone else. All your other lovers will be burning with jealousy now that I’m in town.
Nikolai: You’re my only lover at the moment.
Anya: You know what? I don’t even care if that’s true or not. It’s exactly what I want to hear.

The White Pumpkin was murdering again, and I, Jesse, was determined to get to the bottom of it. I forced everyone to keep watch, relying on my friends to make sure they kept in line. Nobody was happy with me.
When Soren was killed, Lukas, Petra, and I went through the cave and found the White Pumpkin’s lair. Lukas told me that he was worried that the people might turn on us, and I called him a paranoid idiot. When he left, I told Petra that that was the most un-Luz thing I’ve ever said, and I didn’t know why I was so mean.
When we went back to the surface, all the survivors rebelled. They accused me of being the White Pumpkin. Then, Lukas came forward and said he was the White Pumpkin, which wasn’t true. He put on a mask to prove this, which looked like a hollow white pumpkin placed on top of an orange one. Then, Petra followed suit. They locked us all in the tiny house and kept watch, along with a random SkyWing that didn’t have a name. I sat on the seat-sized bed that took up one sixth of the entire space.
We found a broken fountain inside and decided that we should swim out. But we didn’t know how long it went, so we needed potions of water-breathing. A lot of the ingredients were inside the house, but we needed some materials that could only be found in a volcano. So, I snuck out and gathered them. Why we didn’t all sneak out at once like this, I don’t know.
I brought the materials back (instead of making a distraction so Lukas and Petra could make a run for it) and fused the smooth white stone with the blazing orange one. All we needed to do now was make the potion, but none of us knew how.
When all the guards left to run errands, leaving only Ivor to supervise, I stuck my head out of the window and asked him to make the potion for us, since we had the materials. Again, I don’t know why we didn’t just leave while the only guard was my ally, but I guess we were dead set on escaping in the flashiest way possible.
Ivor came inside to inspect the ingredients and was surprised that we had managed to procure a volcanic rock. He asked us where we got it, but Petra told me to keep my mouth shut. Ivor could still betray us and keep the volcano for myself.
I thought that was dumb. If he wanted to betray us, he had all the things he needed already. Besides, he was our friend, why would we hide the location of something he needed, and we didn’t?
Still, I kept quiet, just saying that it was in the house like everything else. Ivor clearly didn’t believe me, but still took everything and promised to have the potions ready.
Everything was back to normal by the time the guards returned. The potion wasn’t ready yet, so we played the part of trapped and hateful prisoners. As in, we made smug small talk that would make it obvious that we had the upper hand.
Ivor told the others that Cat had finished redesigning their Migalik (it must have been that random SkyWing?) so StampyCat opened the prison door to take it. Ivor threw us the water-breathing potions as the door was open, and we all drank. StampyCat yelled at us to stop, but we all jumped into the fountain and disappeared.

WIP WEDNESDAY AAAAAAA
Tagged by: @korblez Tagging: I'm like 99% sure everyone who wishes to be has been tagged but if not, you know what to do with this! Work: Wipe My Hands Clean Rating: E (Snippet is sfw) Chapter 7: Kick The Door Down Current Word Count: 6057 (total fic wc: 40,483) There had been a time, back when their relationship had been fresh and new, when he’d received looks of pity and horror for telling old squadmates and family who he was entering into a relationship with. “You do know what he’s done?” His aunt had asked, so carefully that she might as well have been defusing a bomb. “You remember what they call that monster, don’t you?” Avi was no monster though. And Macen was aware of what he’d done, as well as what they called him. He thought he perhaps knew more about it than anyone else; the things Avi’d admitted to in the dead of night, eyes glassy and mandibles slack with a horror seared into his own mind. He knew what had happened on Dregir and he couldn’t deem him a monster for it. He wouldn’t deny he’d done some fucked up things. Spectres did though. That came with the job description and Avitus had belonged to that title before he’d been his. As he had to a number of other pejorative labels. Paranoid and short tempered? Sure, that went with the territory. Addictive personality and ensuing vices present? Yeah, and thankfully he was mostly aware of it too. Violent and sadistic? Maybe those, even if Macen suspected that the worst of those traits was directed inwards at himself when not working. But he wasn’t a monster.
He was a broken, charming, loyal person who deserved to be loved and helped. Who’d. Spirits… Every day he went through his messages with the jumping fear in his throat that he’d find one summoning him to questioning for his lover’s actions or, worse, a formulaic message from a faceless person alerting him to a will which addressed every single one of Avitus’ possessions as now being his. They’d discussed that once. He’d railed against the discussion, shouted himself hoarse and wailed the entire time, refusing to hear that eventuality discussed in case it came true simply because it had been spoken into existence. One of the few times when he’d been the one in need of warm arms and the shelter of his lovers body rather than the other way around. Avitus hadn’t had anyone else. Hadn’t owned many things, for that matter. A couple of suits of high-quality armour, approximately twenty guns - nine of which were assault rifles he’d had specced for various circumstances - a collection of ratty casualwear, a handful of trinkets and part-ownership of a mothballed planetskipper called Initinerror which he’d shared with a fellow spectre. That friend had since died. “I value people, not things, Mace.” He’d said that evening, even as he’d nibbled and licked at the side of his mandible in an attempt at distracting him from the emotional toll of what they were discussing. “But what I have is yours. Between selling that shitty ship and the credits I’ve never touched in my bank accounts, you’ll be able to get yourself a nice place on Macedyn or Altakiril. Adopt a bunch of abused varren and maybe some kids. That works - actually, I can see you with a hoard of kids, y’know. Your own clawball teams worth of brats.” Avitus hadn’t wanted children. He’d completely refused the idea of surrogacy when he’d brought it up as casually as he dared. “Nobody deserves to be stuck being related to me, not for all the shit I was born with in my head already. Nah, my name ends with me, Mace, and that’s how it should be. Spirits know I shouldn’t even have been born. Birth control failed, idiots decided to keep the baby, then daddy dearest got his stupid head blown off on Bostra.” He’d then had given his best self-deprecating laugh when Macen had concluded instead that they could adopt, or have children that were biologically his. “And besides, you really think anyone wants to put kids in a house that has me in it? I’m not good with them and they stress me out. I’d screw them up and then that’d be all the worse. I'm sorry. If you want kids, it won’t be with me around, that’s all.” And he’d respected that. He wanted a family but he wanted Avitus more. They could still have had the pack of varren and sprawling home somewhere on one of the more pleasantly secluded colony worlds after all. And now he had neither. He so hoped that he’d get his time to mourn what they could have had eventually. And that he never got the message he was dreading so much.

A monster with a heart made out of paper.
[Platonic!/Angst + little very tiny fluff]
TW!: Blood, sharp obejcts such as knifes, Death, Implied death, .
BenchTrio x Villan!GN! Reader
(Context: Y/n is a Villan of the Dsmp, one of the most dangerous one as well, they go by 'Dancing Death', cause when they dance they kill everyone around them, they can do this cause they have a shard of crystal from the end wich helps them create shadow beings/things in this case knifes, daggers, swords, ect.)
"Y/n?! Where are you?!" Screamed Tommy paranoid about the villan showing up at any given time.
"Tommy! Shut up! The last thing we need is y/n figuring out our location!" Said Tubbo trying too quite down his own voice as well
"Guys, I know we are all under very high stress but we need too shut up before THE Dancing Death get's here and makes us dance until we bleed out!" Said the hybrid speaking in a low hushed voice but still low enough for the other two too keep silent.
You may be wondering, how tf did they end up in the property of y/n l/n?
Too resume it up they were being idiots so they ran into random people's house and spooked them when they got back, they ran and found this mansion it looked old so they went inside, they heard a person come inside the house tommy was about too scare them when they saw the familiar necklace and cape like coat.
Tommy hid again and looked at his two friends.
"Tommy what's wron-" Ranboo was cut off by tommy's hand on his mouth shushing him.
Tommy could see through a little hole in their hiding place, (e/c) turning a wild (f/c) as their necklace shard grew brighter and brighter.
Thankfully they got distracted by a sound of something falling so y/n left too check it out.
Ranboo and Tubbo understood quickly and closed they're mouths.
The trio then got out of they're hiding place and that's how we got here.
The trio looked around for a while, when they heard a creak behind them they turned around saw nothing and then looked foward again- too see y/n standing infront of them, the three boys tensing up, the silence in the house was deadly.
Y/n smirked and said
"Hm, I guess today is my lucky day." Said y/n before hitting one of the boy's head making him pass out, and when the other two went too run they passed out too thanks too the villan now standing before the 3 passed out kid's.
Time Skip
Tommy woke up and analized his sorroundings, he was tied too a chair by a rope, he didn't have any of his belongings, and a piece of cloth covered his mouth, the room was dimed a blue, almost purple light filled the room at his side were tubbo and ranboo, both still passed out and in his same conditions, tommy strugled but every time he moved the rope got tighter and tighter.
Only too realize that wasn't a rope.
That was a fucking snake who would crush his organs until he died.
Tommy stopped his movements and looked at the door that had just been opened and saw y/n coming in.
They sat down on a nearby chair and looked at tommy
"Not strugling? Suprising, I thought by the time I got here, you would be spitting out blood as my snake crushed you're insides, killing you, in a slow, and painful, way."
Said the (h/c) looking into tommy's eyes with every word said.
"Oh well, time too wake up the other two." said y/n going behind the chairs and lifting them only too throw them harshly onto the floor almost breaking the floor, and causing for both boy's too wake up.
They both quickly looked around, realization hitting them hard.
Ranboo had a scared look on his face eyes wondering everywhere in the room looking for a posible escape route.
While tubbo's face held one of power, as if saying 'lay a finger on me and my face will be the last thing you see before dying.', he knew y/n couldn't hurt him, he has too much power and strong allies, plus nukes, and something else, something tommy couldn't place.
"Good, now all of you are awake." said y/n going back too they're chair infront of the tied up trio.
Y/n went up to the boys first and ripped off the cloths from their mouths alowing them to speak and breath normally again.
Tommy breathed heavily and looked down, after a few seconds he looked back up again and saw amused (e/c) staring at the three struggling boys, smiling.
"What do you want Dancing Death." Spoke tubbo, his voice harsh, almost deadly.
"Not on first name basis anymore? Sad." said the killer sitting down on the chair and staring at tubbo.
"No, not after what you did." said tubbo his brown eyes emitting a green yellow kinda glow.
"Hm, that's unfortunate, might I say" said the killer looking away from tubbo's death glare.
And looking at ranboo
They hybrid was scared shitless his green and red eyes looked scared while looking into y/n's sharp (e/c) eyes.
"Ranboo, nice to see you again, haven't been able to talk to you since the fall of l'manburg!." said y/n bowing their head in an apologetic way.
"I-it's fine." said Ranboo not really sure about what to say that wouldn't piss off the killer infront of him.
"Now, I only need to talk about one- actually two things with you all and then you will be set free." said y/n standing up from the chair and staring at the boys infront of them.
"Don't lie, that isn't at all like you, what are you planing?" said Tubbo trying to jult upwards and coming face-to-face with the killer only to be stopped by a sharp pain, the snake, tubbo stopped and gritted his teeth together in pain.
"Careful now, those snakes have no mercy." said y/n with a sly smile now across their face.
Tubbo didn't respond and just looked at them with hate.
"I promise you i'm not planing anything, afterall."
"I'm not a monster tubbo." Said y/n looking into the brunettes eyes.
Tubbo looked up inmideatly, standing up it made the snake leave from the sudden strength.
Tubbo was now looking up at y/n tears filling his brown eyes.
Flashback
A 5 year old tubbo was walking around with his parents as he looked up happily at them with a bright smile, his parent's smiled back.
A few minutes later they sat down beneath a tree, tubbo playing with his dad.
"I'm a very scary monster! Rawr!" screamed tubbo at his dad pretending to be a monster.
"Well i'm a even scarier monster!" said tubbo's dad raising his arms and pretending to be a monster like his son.
Tubbo got scared and backed away a little, his father inmideatly stopped and looked at him picking him up.
"Hey bud look it's me! There's no monster here! Just me!" said tubbo's dad hugging him
His dad pulled away and put tubbo down and looked at him and said.
"I'm not a monster tubbo." said his father looking into his son's eyes with a smile.
Tubbo was about to respond when he saw a knife going through his mothers skull and landing on the floor as a pool of blood surrounded her.
His father horrified grabbed tubbo and ran.
Tubbo could see from his fathers shoulder a person dancing with a wide smile on their face as knifes were being thrown from the persons hands and going into peoples body's, killing them.
Tubbo looked horrified as the person took notice of him and his dad and ran at full speed at them.
"DAD!-" Tubbo was cut off as he saw a dagger impailing his father's chest and killing him.
The (h/c) came closer to him and crouched, they smiled and went to cup his cheek, as blood now stained his face.
The persons smile went from sweet to sadistic and their eyes glowed a (f/c) color.
Tubbo scared, stayed still and looked into the person's eyes.
Soon tubbo felt sleppy and started drifting off.
As soon as tubbo fell asleep y/n grabbed him and hamocked him in their arms as they walked to y/n's house and Tubbo's new house leaving the fire and dead corpse's behind.
End of flashback.
"Don't you fucking dare." said Tubbo slowly as he looked into his adoptive parent eyes.
"Language, son." said y/n smiling at Tubbo.
"Wait, what." spoke a voice behind them.
Tommy said looking at the duo
There is no way.
Ranboo and Tommy shared a look before remembering the...accident.
Flashback AGAIN
Tommy held tight onto Ranboo's shirt as they looked around the battle field, filled to the brim with corpse's and fire around them.
Tommy and Ranboo were looking for their parents when they heared steps aproaching.
Black boots appeared and cut through the fire and made themselves through the battle field carrying something or someone in their arms
Then they stopped once they were infront of ranboo and tommy.
They crouched infront of them and put a brunette child gently on the floor and summoning a tiny blanket and covering the child with it.
Then (e/c) eyes looked at the pair infront of them, the figure hugged them and started singing a lullaby.
"London bridge is coming down, coming down, coming down, london bridge is coming down-*snore*" they were interupted by the two boys now asleep on their arms.
They scooped them up as well as the boy in the blanket and started heading home.
End of flashback two.
"Ah, so you do remember, I was wondering when you guys would notice" said y/n as the releasation hit them.
"You...you..YOU BITCH." said tommy as tears started leaving his eyes anger filling every fiber in his body
Before y/n could even respond tommy said
"YOU MONSTER, Y-YOU MOTHERFUCKER, YOU TEACHED US HOW TO BE MURDER MACHINES, FOR FUCK'S SAKE BY WHEN I WAS SEVEN I KNEW EVERY POSSIBLE WAY TO KILL A MAN AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT." Screamed tommy at the (h/c).
Y/n stayed silent and turned around grabbing a picture on the desk and said.
"When I adopted you all I thought I would be a new person, maybe forget all my violent ways, become the parent figure you guys always wanted, but."
Y/n stopped for a second and then continued.
"I realized very early on I wasn't going to change anytime soon, I was young and foolish at the time being only a teenager, so I tried to teach you three what I knew, hoping it would help you in the future, now I realise how dumb I was to think that."
Said y/n turning their back on the trio.
"How so?.." said ranboo standing up followed by tommy with the snakes now long gone.
"You three are stubborn as fuck and i'm glad you are honestly, heh, Ranboo, no matter how many times I tried to help you with you're social problems you would always just run away crying at the end running to me and hugging me saying you were scared, Tubbo, I tried to make you into a fighter yet it never worked, one day I came home and found you building a giant stack of TNT with some old fireworks and red paper from my room, Tommy, I tried to make you into a spy, yet you were always loud and energetic, your loud and bright personality could never fit the role I planned for you, for any of you, I was young and realized that if you weren't gonna change, I should, I tried my best I really did but no matter what I did I always seemed to scare you guys away...."
Said y/n looking at the three boys.
"And I guess when I saw you guys come in here I saw my chance and tried to talk to you guys but my violent side quickly took over and y'know..." said y/n now standing akwardly infront of the trio.
"We can't forgive you for what you did, but we can learn to understand, while you did scare us in the start, we warmed up to you remember?" said tommy smiling a little.
"For example it was my birthday, I tripped and fell, you came over to me worried sick, picking me up and make sure I was okay and bandaging me up, I remember how I hugged you happily."
Said tommy looking at y/n.
Y/n stayed speechless as Ranboo started.
"Yeah or maybe when I was drawing that one day while tommy and tubbo were being chaotic and you walked by, I happily invited you over and started making a bunch of crappy drawings of you, you called them masterpieces and hanged them up on your room."
Y/n smiled lightly as they remember the drawing they STILL have on their walls
"And when I was making another one of my crazy inventions, no matter how many times they failed you were there and helped me and told me how I was the smartest person you had ever known." said tubbo quickly chimming in.
Y/n smiled and opened their arms a bit making the three boys walk over and hug them.
"You may be a monster, but you still raised us the best you could, guess...
You are a monster with a heart made out of paper."

Todoroki Shouto x F!Reader - Paranoid
A/N: Wanted to write something for the youngest Todoroki’s birthday (Jan.11), so here it is! He deserves so much love and many cuddles, the poor bean! Based off the song “Paranoid” by: Emily Warren. HIGHLY recommend giving it a listen!
TW: Slight Angst (it’s Shouto, what did you expect), Fluff.
Tumblr media
He was always scared you were going to leave him.
You knew that.
You knew your boyfriend had low self-esteem despite the strong and confident face he wore around everyone else.
Shouto had always been someone that was seen as hard to read by others. But after being with him for 6 years, you’d learned to read his tics and mannerisms.
You two had been dating since your 2nd year at UA together, both having been in the Hero Course and in Class A. You had to be the one to make the first move, as Shouto was clearly oblivious to your interest in him. Surprisingly, he had said yes, and things kind of just went from there.
You moved in with him 3 years after graduation, having wanted to start your separate careers first before becoming more serious with the relationship. The move was actually really nice, as neither of you had to leave in the morning or drive back to your own place at night.
However, due to being around the dual-toned male more often, you’d also witnessed more of his vulnerable and low moments.
One morning, you woke up to the heterochromatic man beside you whimpering in his sleep. WHIMPERING. You were so worried, immediately shaking him awake, causing him to sit straight up out of bed.
You scooted closer and realized he was drenched in sweat, shaking anxiously.
“Shou? You okay, hon?” you asked, concern lacing your voice and you brought a hand up to rest on his shoulder.
A deep breath and a nod were all you got in response.
You could tell he was clearly shaken up about whatever it was, but didn’t want to pressure him into telling you, especially not first thing in the morning. Instead, you offered to make breakfast, and padded off to the kitchen, sure that he just had a weird dream.
~~Timeskip~~
It had been 4 months since that odd morning, and the youngest Todoroki had yet to fully return to normal.
He’d often get up before you (which was odd, as he usually liked to get as much sleep as he could), getting coffee and breakfast ready before heading out for work, leaving you a little post-it note saying when he’d be back and that he loved you. He stopped texting you little messages during the day to check how you were doing, instead just making sure you ate your lunch and nothing else.
You called both Midoriya and Iida to check if any major attacks had happened that you didn’t know about, wondering if this was due to someone’s quirk, but both men said there weren’t any villains that they were aware of that would affect someone in such a way.
You wracked your brain for any signs or comments that could’ve caused Shouto to become so cold, but you kept coming up empty. You could barely focus on work, your mind constantly being distracted by trying to figure out what was up with your boyfriend. Thankfully, it was a paperwork day, meaning no patrols.
Eventually, it was closing time and you could finally pack up and head home, having somehow finished all your paperwork despite having had your head in the clouds.
When you walked through the door into your shared apartment, you knew something was up. Shouto’s shoes were by the front door, but all the lights were off.
You wandered inside after trading your shoes for house slippers, trying to listen for any signs of life.
Suddenly, you heard what sounded like.... sniffling?
What?
You followed the noise until you came to your bedroom door. You stayed still in front of the wooden entrance, listening to the sound that came from the other side of the door.
It was Shouto. You’d know that voice anywhere, even when it was gasping between sniffles.
The sound of the man you loved crying broke your heart beyond what you had ever thought possible. You turned the knob and rushed into the room, flinging your body towards the unsuspecting male.
A pair of mismatched eyes turned towards you, instinctively shooting a blade of ice towards you without thinking. Luckily, your quirk, “Negate”, allowed you to negate anyone else’s quirk, which meant once you touched the icy blade that came your way, it melted immediately, barely hindering you from your goal.
The moment your boyfriend recognized you, you could tell an apology was forming on his tongue, but you cut him off with your arms suddenly wrapping around his torso, your face burrowing into his neck as your own tears started to form.
“Shou.... please tell me what’s wrong. You’ve been distant lately, and I’m starting to get scared. Please.... just tell me what’s going on.” you pleaded, hoping that he’d listen to you.
You then heard a shaky sigh leave the male’s mouth, followed by the feeling of strong arms coming to wrap around your midsection.
“....I’m sorry. I was worried you were going to leave. I figured if I kept my distance, then it would hurt less when you inevitably leave me...” Shouto said softly, his voice still sounding unsure and nervous.
Your eyes widened as you pulled back.
“Excuse me? What in the world would have given you the idea that I had any intention of leaving you??” you asked, extremely confused by the man’s words.
The scarred male turned away from you, avoiding eye contact at all costs as a blush rose to his cheeks.
“I, uh...I had a dream that you’d packed up all your things while I was at work and left me a note saying you didn’t want to be with me anymore. I know it sounds dumb, but it felt so real and I know that I don’t deserve you and that you’d be better off with someone else. Hell, I wouldn’t even blame you if you wanted to leave. I know that I don’t deserve to be happy with you, and I-mhhh!”
The man was cut off by the sweet taste of your strawberry lip balm against his chapped lips. Your hand wandered until it found his and your fingers intertwined as you deepened the kiss.
After a few moments, you pulled away, a rosy blush on both your cheeks as you brought your other hand to cup the face of the man before you, making him look you in the eyes.
“Todoroki Shouto. I love you. I am not going anywhere. You are the most incredible partner and boyfriend I could ever wish for. I don’t want or need someone else. Just you. You do deserve me. If I have to spend the rest of my life convincing you that you are worthy of my love and kindness, then so be it. Hell, even if you ARE convinced, I’m still not leaving. Because I love you.”
There was a long pause as you panted after giving that whole passionate speech, awaiting the male’s reply.
Then, you heard a slight chuckle.
“Did you just propose to me?” the red and white haired man asked, an almost smirk painting his features
You sighed exasperatedly. “Is that seriously what you got out of all that?”
The male's smirk grew ever so slightly. “No, I got everything else. It’s just that the whole ‘spending the rest of your life with me’ part kind of stuck out to me.”
You let out a laugh at his words. “Well, I’m not proposing.”
“Wh-” You placed a finger to his lips to interrupt him, a grin taking over your lips.
“Since I have no ring and I was kind of hoping you would propose first so I could see how you would go about it. Honestly, it’s kind of fun to watch you try and be romantic.” you stated, a giggle escaping your lips.
A deep red blush began covering Shouto’s face. “Well…uuuhh …Don’t laugh ok?” he began
“I can’t promise anything” you replied, your grin widening as you quirked your eyebrows.
“I kind of bought the ring after our third date, since that was when I was actually able to get your finger measurements….” the gray and teal eyed man stated, his eyes refusing to meet yours.
You snorted.
“Shou!! Our third date was back in high school! How did yo-” you started, but was promptly cut off.
“I stole my father’s card and used some of my formal clothes to go to the shop, along with the wig I wore to go save Bakugou. They never asked me for my age, so it was fine.” Shouto stated, as if it were the most logical thing in the world to go out and buy a wedding ring for a girl after only the 3rd date and while being in high school.
“You sound way too nonchalant about this.” you commented, a look of amusement and confusion on your face.
Shouto shrugged, although his crimson blush was still present.
“Well, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you, so I figured it’d be better to prepare for when the time was right.”
You giggled at his answer. “Oh my god, you are too much sometimes, you know that?”
The man’s eyes turned nervous from your statement. “I-”
You pecked his cheek before he could start. “I never said that was a bad thing. Now come here so I can kiss my amazing fiancée.”
The usually stoic man smiled softly as he leaned forward, bringing his lips to meet yours as he wrapped his arms around your waist. You brought your hands up to card your fingers through his two-toned hair as you reciprocated the affection.
Eventually, you two broke for air, panting as you stayed in each other’s embrace. Shouto then took out the engagement ring he’d mentioned before, from his nightstand. You held out your hand as he slipped the metal band onto your finger.
It fit like a glove.
You smiled down at the silver ring, a small purple amethyst adorning it.
You looked back up at your boyfriend-turned-fiancée, and grasped his face softly as you made sure to make eye-contact.
“You don’t have to worry about me ever not loving you. If you ever have another dream like that, just tell me and I’ll be right here to remind you of how much I love you.” you said softly, almost in a whisper.
Shouto smiled happily at your words, looking down at the new piece of jewelry on your left hand.
“Thank you, (Y/n). For always being there for me. I love you.” the handsome man stated, pulling you in for a hug which you happy returned.
-THE END-
A/N: So, this is my 1st time writing for Shouto. I really hope I didn’t write him too OOC. I love this song, and have for years, it is SOOO good. Sorry if some of this feels a bit rushed, just really wanted to get it out in time for his birthday! Anyway, thank you for reading and hope you enjoyed! Happy Birthday Shouto!!

Tumblr media
“I think Fury is giving you a sign.”
Natasha looked up from her paperwork to see Maria leaning against the door frame to her office. She herself had just gotten back from a mission, evident in her slightly mused ponytail and gun still on her hip. A very beyond attractive look, if Natasha had to say it.
“What do you mean?” Natasha asked, leaning back in her chair to give her full attention to her fiancee.
“So he didn’t tell you,” Maria said with a nod. She pushed herself off the door frame and moved to sit in the chair on the opposite side of the desk.
“I’ll admit that gives me a clue,” Natasha said with a small frown. She didn’t like where this was going.
“He’s sending you on another mission,” Maria replied. “With Y/N.”
“I thought we told him emergencies only,” Natasha mused more to herself than to Maria.
It seemed like Nick was sending the both of you on every mission he could possibly come up with. He needed some information. Then he wanted the layout of a base. Then he wanted some recon on security in another location. All were things that Natasha not only could have done with someone else, but she could have gotten them done on her own.
He seemed to think differently.
“He wants you to leave tomorrow,” Maria continued, bringing Natasha out of her pouting. “Personnel recovery.”
“At least that gives us a few hours together,” Natasha said with a small smile.
“Maybe we can finally get some planning done,” Maria nodded as she stood up. “Maybe a colour scheme?”
“Red and black,” Natasha shot back.
“We’ll argue about it later,” Maria smiled. She walked over and tilted Natasha’s chin up to give her a quick kiss before leaving the office, presumably to get cleaned up.
Natasha looked down at her paperwork for not even five minutes before deciding she was going to rush upstairs and surprise Maria in the shower. She had just started piling the papers up when you walked in, harpoon on hip and soaking wet.
“Did you ask Fury for another mission?” You asked as you plopped into the chair opposite her, water instantly dripping down the sides of the seat.
“No,” Natasha said curtly, hoping she could get you out of her office sooner if she didn’t invite conversation.
“Then why is he sending us together?” You asked. Your fingers started combing through your hair, the webs gathering whatever was stuck. Drops of water splashed onto Natasha’s pristine papers.
“I don’t know,” Natasha said again, turning her lip up when you put a piece of seaweed on her desk.
“I thought you knew everything,” you huffed, staring intently as a shell you had pulled out of your suit sleeve.
“Well clearly not,” Natasha mumbled to herself.
You leaned over to rest your elbows on the desk, your dripping wet hair leaving puddles on the mahogany and her papers. Natasha set her jaw and gave you a look, keeping eye contact. But your eyes gave off that mischievous sparkle, the one that would make any woman swoon. And Natasha’s heart raced.
“Think I can get that in writing?” You asked with a raised brow. “You know, for the next time you act like a know-it-all.”
“Did you just come in here to act like an ass?” Natasha asked as she picked her papers up and started walking out.
“Actually,” you started as you pushed away from the desk and stood up, “I’m here to bring you this.”
You held your open hand out, palm up, and Natasha looked cautiously to see what it was. In the middle of your palm was a whole shell, with a small black pearl in the centre. It looked absolutely stunning, and Natasha reached out to gently take it.
“Why did you bring this to me?” Natasha asked, although she feared she already knew your answer.
“Cheeseburger found the shell the other day,” you shrugged, “and Roger got the pearl out.”
Natasha did her best not to chuckle at the silly names you had given the octopus and otter that usually inhabited your moon pool. Cheeseburger, the octopus, had lost two limbs and had a nasty habit of stealing your cheeseburgers (hence the name), while Roger was an in-progress rehabilitation project. Unfortunately, the three of you were like peas in a pod.
“It’s beautiful,” Natasha mused, her eyes still glued to the pearl. “But I can’t take this home to my fiancee.”
You huffed and crossed your arms over your chest. The space between the both of you increased as you visibly took a step back, and Natasha missed the closeness. Things had seemed normal only a moment ago, and now she could feel you closing yourself off to her, going cold once again.
“Then give it to Maria,” you shrugged. “Get some brownie points before going off on another mission with her favourite person.”
“That’s not what I meant and you know it,” Natasha shot back. “I just don’t want to waste your gift.”
“It was just cluttering up my space,” you replied, voice cold.
“Give it to Yelena,” Natasha said softly, holding the shell and pearl back out for you to take. “She would love it.”
“Yelena,” you huffed with a small smile. A sad smile. You grabbed the shell from her hand rather roughly, causing Natasha to flinch. “Thanks for the input.”
“Y/N,” Natasha started, but you were already walking away in the opposite direction, head high and feet dragging.
Natasha sighed and started her own way back to her floor. She wanted Maria to distract her. From you.
———
“What’s our objective again?” You shouted from the back of the quinjet.
“Personnel recovery,” Yelena answered. “Some scientist wanted out of AIM.”
“Why is that my responsibility?” You continued. Your boots echoed off the floor and you popped your head in between Yelena’s and Natasha’s chairs.
“Because something smelled-”
“Don’t,” Natasha interrupted.
“-fishy,” Yelena finished anyway, and both you and Natasha groaned as she just laughed at herself.
“I’m not paid enough for this,” Natasha mumbled to herself before turning her head and looking out the windows.
“I’ll throttle you,” you said as you lightly slapped Yelena upside the head.
“Listen,” she tried to say around another round of giggles, “if Fury ever told me his plans, I wouldn’t be stuck here with you two.”
“Well why don’t you find out? I wanna know why he’s sending me on this mission.”
“I already told you, I don’t know.”
“Why don’t you know? Surely you must have some kind of-”
“Can you both shut up?” Natasha shouted. The both of you grew silent immediately, and Natasha finally let out a breath and tried to rub her growing migraine away.
“Should’ve just sent Nat,” you grumbled. “She’s grumpy enough to scare everyone away all on her own.”
Yelena snorted, and when Natasha shot a look her way, she tried her best to look out the window. You, on the other hand, held up to her challenge and met her eyes. That ridiculous smirk refused to disappear, and Natasha wanted so desperately to wipe it off your face. But instead she just turned back around and looked out the window once again.
The rest of the trip was silent, only the occasional update being spoken aloud. Yelena managed to drop the both of you off and stayed in the jet, more than ready for when you both got back and could get back to the Tower for a well-deserved weekend.
It was a quick jog to the location, with tents and cages set up all around the landing port. The building was a few stories tall, but well fortified with guards around every corner. The majority of cages were empty, but every now and then you could hear a bear, a dog, a human.
“I thought these guys were scientists,” you whispered from where you were crouched beside Natasha.
“They are,” Natasha nodded.
“Must be pretty paranoid then,” you continued.
“You would be too if your work relied on illegal mutant experimentation,” Natasha clarified. You didn’t say anything else, but she could see your knuckles going pale.
“Let’s get our man and go,” you practically growled. “Before I kill them all.”
Natasha knew you weren’t joking.
You both went in opposite directions, you heading to the back door and Natasha heading to the side. There was no guaranteeing that the scientist was even inside at all, but that was the easiest place to check. There was too much vulnerability outside and Natasha wasn’t going to risk getting caught and failing another mission.
“How are we supposed to find one nerd in a facility full of nerds?” You asked over the intercoms, and Natasha assumed you had made it into the building.
“Be nice,” Natasha whispered, “not all scientists are nerds.”
“Bruce and Tony are,” you replied. Natasha pulled herself against a wall when she heard voices. “Everyone here is.”
“Hush,” Natasha whispered. You remained silent as Natasha listened to footsteps getting closer, and then turning into the opposite direction. She let out a quiet breath.
“Do we really want to help someone who’s torturing mutants?” You asked again, a barely contained anger in your voice.
Natasha rounded another corner, trying to come up with an answer for you. You weren’t wrong; she didn’t like the idea either. Why save the scientist when you could save the people instead? But Fury wanted him, and there had to be a reason for it. The location was known, so someone could always come back to save them another day.
“Nick will send us back another day,” Natasha finally said out loud. You huffed on the other end of the comms.
You both continued through the facility, methodically clearing rooms until finally you indicated you had found him. Some wiry man with broken glasses, according to your description. Natasha gave confirmation and headed to the meet up point, somewhere on the second floor. Once Natasha was about to round the corner to the location, she could hear your voice carrying through the halls.
“You’re lucky I don’t wring your neck myself.”
“What’s the problem?” Natasha asked as soon as she saw you.
You were right. The man was wiry and nerdy, something you would expect from a mad scientist in a comic book. White tape was wrapped around the nose piece of his glasses in stereotypical fashion and he was hunched over like the world was resting on his shoulders.
No surprise, considering you were hovering nearly a foot over him.
“He called me an animal,” you seethed, your hands visibly shaking with the desire to have them around the man’s neck.
“Look at your arms and neck, what else could you be?” He asked in a gruff New Jersey accent.
“You want an animal? I’ll show you an-”
“That’s enough,” Natasha demanded. She stepped in between the both of you and pushed you away, not even bothering to get near the man.
“If he has to go with us, then so does one of the mutants,” you said, leaving no room for argument in your voice.
“We can’t risk it, we’re leaving them here,” Natasha said quickly. The hair on the back of her neck was starting to stand up and her stomach felt like it was dropping.
“I’m not leaving them and taking that,” you said through clenched teeth while pointing at the scientist.
“You’re going to risk my life for one of them?” He asked, his face drawn in disgust at the mere thought that his life was equal to a mutant’s. Natasha wanted to strangle him.
“We will come back for them another day,” Natasha said again, but you didn’t look convinced.
“I’m not leaving without them, so you’re gonna have to wait,” you shot back.
Voices could be heard in the stairwell a few halls away.
“And I’m not risking another mission,” Natasha argued, walking closer to you and forcing you to step backward to keep your space.
“If you think I’m taking that and leaving one of those kids then you’re-”
Click.
The both of you froze, your eyes boring into Natasha’s. A heavy silence fell upon the both of you, so thick Natasha struggled to draw breath. Her heart was pounding in her ears and that feeling of dread in the pit of her stomach returned.
And then your eyes left hers, trailing down to the too-tight cuffs that were now keeping you chained to the pipes against the wall. They weren’t the usual police handcuffs, but the kind that they had used on Loki after the invasion of New York.
You weren’t getting out of them.
“Natasha,” you started, your eyes moving back to meet hers.
“I’m sorry,” Natasha whispered. She took one heavy step back, never taking her eyes off of you.
“Unlock them,” you continued. Your chest was starting to rise and fall slightly faster.
“Someone will come for you,” Natasha said again with a slight nod.
Her mouth felt like it was stuffed with cotton.
“Get back here, Romanoff,” you said as Natasha started leading the scientist down the hall.
Away from you.
She didn’t answer. She just felt her leaden boots take step after step, leading her further away from where you were chained. When she didn’t answer, she heard the sound of metal pulling against metal and your grunts and groans as you tried to yank the cuffs off.
“You can’t leave me here!” You shouted, your voice echoing down the hall after Natasha had turned the final corner.
She heard other voices coming from the same direction as yours, quickly followed by shouting and the solid thuds of blows being landed.
“Natalia!” You shouted again once Natasha had opened the door to lead the scientist out.
Only moments after the door shut, Natasha heard your scream. A scream of anger and frustration, a scream that reached down Natasha’s throat and ripped her heart out. The prick of tears in her eyes left a sinking feeling in her gut, left her feeling empty and a broken shell.
But she had a mission. And she was going to complete it.
She shoved the scientist in the direction of the quinjet and didn’t look back. Ignoring the whining and complaining coming from the man and eventually just throwing him into the back of the quinjet, ignoring the way Yelena jumped at the sudden noise.
“Where’s Y/N?” Yelena asked, moving her head around, trying to see if you were close behind.
“Get us in the air,” Natasha ordered. Tears pricked her eyes once again.
“Are they coming?” Yelena asked again, ignoring Natasha’s order.
“I said get us in the air, now.”
Yelena gave Natasha a look that sent a shiver down her spine, but turned around and got the jet in the air nonetheless. The scientist pulled himself into the seat next to Natasha. He seemed much more relaxed, and Natasha couldn’t blame him. He probably didn’t realise just how much had been risked to get him back to SHIELD.
“You made the right choice,” he said after some unbearable silence. Natasha turned to look at him, her brows pulled together.
“Excuse me?”
“You made the right choice,” he said again with an enthusiastic nod. “You never know what those animals might do-”
He was cut off with a choked gasp as Natasha slammed her elbow into his face, and he quickly lost consciousness.
“Just shut up,” she mumbled to herself, knowing he couldn’t hear her.
It didn’t make her feel any better.
———
It was six weeks before the party had been dispatched to get you back.  The party had consisted of Natasha, Yelena, and Wanda, and there was going to be nothing extra. They were going to get you out and get back to SHIELD, no side missions, no stops, no questions.
Maybe it just so happened that the only way to get you was to burn the facility to the ground and get the rest of the mutants out. Maybe they had called for a second quinjet to arrive to make sure everyone was able to get out safely.
Yelena and Wanda were tasked with getting everyone on the jets and eliminating the few soldiers remaining while Natasha had scoured the facility top to bottom to find you. There was a large portion of the basement that Natasha had found, filled with surgical equipment and things that would have been enough to give anyone nightmares.
And you were there, nude, in a too-small empty glass tank with a chain around your ankle. There were rips and tears in the thin membranes between your spines, and a dark black mark on your left shoulder blade. From her angle, it looked like some kind of gunk was stuck in your gills. You were curled up into a fetal position and kept your eyes glued to the ground directly in front of you.
“Y/N,” Natasha said, her gun still drawn but lowered.
“I should thank you, Miss Romanoff,” a voice called, and Natasha spun with gun raised to find a scientist walk forward, standing near a panel by your tank. “You gave me my greatest obsession.”
“How about you just let them out and I don’t kill you,” Natasha shrugged.
“I’ve learned a lot from our little friend,” he continued, ignoring her. “And you’re in time to see the results of something I’ve been working on.”
“Let them go,” Natasha said again. She cocked the gun, but the man laughed.
“I hear drowning is a horrible way to die,” he said, still ignoring her.
Out of the corner of her eye, Natasha saw you raise your head and look at her. The dark spots under your eyes were beyond evident, sticking out against the sickened colour of your skin. There was no emotion in your eyes, not even a silent plea for help.
You looked like you had already accepted death.
“How long do you think a sea creature can hold its breath underwater before it needs to breathe?” He asked, his fingers typing against the panel.
“Don’t,” Natasha shouted, her trigger finger pulling instinctively and burying a bullet into the man’s chest. He was dead before he hit the floor.
Water started filling your tank, and you stood up to get your head as tall as it could get. Natasha nodded at you once, and you covered your head as she fired shot after shot at the tank. But there wasn’t even a dent, nothing to indicate that the tank could be broken.
“What do I do?” Natasha asked as she ran up to the tank, watching the water slowly rise to your ankles.
You didn’t speak, didn’t open your mouth, instead pointing as best you could to a discrete pipe against the opposite wall. Natasha looked at it and followed the direction until she saw a lone wheel connected to the wall. A wheel that could control the water flow.
“Stay here,” Natasha told you as she ran off, grimacing to herself. It wasn’t like you had anywhere to go.
She grabbed the wheel and pulled, but it didn’t budge. It felt like she was trying to pull a quinjet with her bare hands; an impossible task in and of itself. Her eyes trailed over to see the water had reached your waist. There had to be something else she could get, something to help.
The thud of your hands on the glass made her turn, and you were pointing in another direction. Her eyes followed, but there wasn’t anything she could see that would immediately-
A pipe.
Natasha sprinted to grab it from the table, nearly dropping it in her haste to get back to the wheel. The water was up to your neck, and Natasha could already see that your gills weren’t filtering anything. They stayed terribly still, and Natasha had to drag her feet to get back to the wheel.
She stuck the pipe into the empty spaces of the wheel and pulled, yelling in frustration until it finally moved. She continued pulling until she heard the flow of water stop, and a tired smile etched itself onto her lips as she turned back around to see you.
But the water was over your head, and now she was leaving you to drown.
She couldn’t break the glass; the water was off and you were still drowning. Your eyes were wide, and the fear of the situation finally made its way onto your face as you curled in on yourself and started pulling at the chain around your ankle, air bubbles escaping from your nose at a rapid rate.
Natasha got an idea. She didn’t hesitate as she started pushing the pipe, the flow of water rushing back. Only this time, she didn’t stop until the pipes rattled with the flow, barely able to contain the volume inside. She pushed until the pipe stuck, and she turned and ran back to the tank.
Your eyes were closing, the air bubbles almost nonexistent, your struggle against the chain ending. Natasha started banging on the glass, trying to keep you awake, but you didn’t move, instead just floating, and Natasha felt her heart sink.
The glass creaked under her fingers. Natasha’s eyes shot open and she watched the glass, noting the single crack that started to web across the entirety of the tank. She barely had time to step aside as the glass shattered, water shooting out and leaving you to drop to the ground.
When you didn’t move, Natasha jumped forward, dropping to the ground and immediately starting CPR. She could feel a rib break, maybe two, but she didn’t stop. She wasn’t going to stop until you could breathe. You just needed to fucking breathe-
Your body shuddered as you choked, coughing up water before your eyes shot open. Natasha felt herself let out a shaky breath, but she didn’t let herself rest. She grabbed her gun and shot where the chain was connected to the floor, listening to it break before grabbing you and pulling you up.
“You need to lose some weight,” Natasha groaned as you leaned on her side, your feet barely moving.
You didn’t say a word the whole trip out of the facility. Just managed to  drag yourself out, eventually walking more on your own when you neared the quinjet. Yelena ran up to the both of you and got on your other side, sharing a look with Natasha.
“I’ve got it,” Yelena said in a tone that told Natasha to let go and give her some space.
Natasha did, watching as Yelena finished dragging you to the quinjet and putting you in a seat before wrapping a blanket around your naked form. Your eyes fell back to the ground when Yelena finally got the jet in the air, and you refused to look at anyone when you got back to the Tower, leaving Natasha without a second thought.
———
Natasha was sitting at the bar on the common floor, picking apart her food. She had tried to see you multiple times over the past two weeks, only to be turned away by doctors or Yelena. There was something wrong, but Natasha couldn’t find out because no one would let her.
The ding of the elevator had her turning her head, not necessarily eager but casually curious on who had appeared. To her surprise, Yelena walked out with a McDonald’s bag in hand, some drink in the other. She didn’t look happy, but Natasha could’ve expected that.
After all, Yelena hadn’t forgiven her.
“How are they?” Natasha asked.
“Alive, no thanks to you,” Yelena shot back. But she had stopped and was talking back; that was an improvement from the past two weeks.
“I had a mission,” Natasha said, but her voice was small, weak.
“They were part of that mission,” Yelena answered.
“I’m sorry,” Natasha said quietly. She said it to assuage her own guilt. It didn’t work.
“You’re stringing them along,” Yelena said, her voice taking a different tone that Natasha hadn’t been expecting. “Just marry Maria already and end the suffering.”
“I’m not stringing them along,” Natasha defended.
But she knew she was wrong. Yelena was right. And Natasha wasn’t going to stop because what would her life be without you? How could she go about her day-to-day life if she knew you weren’t going to be there in some fashion? Maybe she was in love with Maria and was going to marry her, but that didn’t mean she wanted to throw you away.
“Just be gentle,” Yelena said with a sigh. “Everyone has feelings at stake.”
“And you?” Natasha asked, causing Yelena to freeze. “What feelings do you have at stake?”
A small, sad smile made its way onto her face.
“Desire,” Yelena shrugged, but just like that her demeanour changed. “Y/N said I couldn’t eat before them, and I very much desire this McChicken.”
“You’re disgusting,” Natasha chuckled.
“And this McFlurry. You know the good stuff,” Yelena teased again, causing the both of them to laugh.
“Then go on,” Natasha motioned toward where she assumed you were waiting. “I’d hate for the two of you to starve.”
Yelena gave her a smile, one like the good old days, and continued her walk. She stopped in the doorway and turned around.
“Oh, Fury wanted me to tell you something.” Natasha gave her a look for her to continue. “You and Y/N are going undercover. As a couple.” With that, Yelena continued off, leaving Natasha to deal with the news.
Why couldn’t things ever be easy?

When Zuko defeated Combustion Man, Aang didn’t let him join the group until he gained approval from all of his friends.
“Toph, you're the one that Zuko burned. What do you think?”
The blind earthbender smirked, a sinister look on her face as she pounded her fist into her palm. “Go ahead and let him join. It'll give me plenty of time to get back at him for burning my feet.”
Satisfied with her answer, Aang turned to the Water Tribe boy. “Sokka?”
“Hey, all I want is to defeat the Fire Lord. If you think this is the way to do it, then, I'm all for it,” he said, crossing his arms as he leaned against the wall near him.
“Katara?” Aang asked uncertainly, noticing the stony look on the Water Tribe girl’s face.
“I'll go along with whatever you think is right,” she replied, glaring at Zuko.
“Great!” Aang said, ignoring Katara’s reaction. “Then that’s settled. Welcome to the group Zuko!”
Zuko paused slightly, looking around as he noticed the absence of the other Water Tribe girl he had always seen with the Gaang.
“Not that I’m complaining,” the prince said, a questioning look in his eyes. “But isn’t there someone else you should be asking? Where’s the other Water Tribe girl?”
The group went silent at Zuko’s words as Katara’s face hardened and Sokka looked away, a sad expression making it’s way onto his face.
“She’s gone,” Sokka said roughly as he began to storm off.
Katara reached out for his arm, grabbing onto him as he passed her. “Sokka, it wasn’t your fault.”
“Not my fault?” Sokka roared, stray tears escaping his eyes as he faced Katara. “It was my invasion plan Katara! I should’ve taken the fall. Not her!”
He shrugged her hand off before walking off deeper into the Air Temple. Katara sent Zuko another glare before hurrying after her brother, leaving him alone with Aang and Toph. Zuko glanced at Aang uneasily, not wanting to ask about what had happened. With a sigh, Aang sat down looking at Zuko expectantly.
The prince sat down across from Aang as Toph sat to his left, the usually loud-mouthed girl abnormally quiet.
“The other Water Tribe girl that would travel with us is (Y/N),” Aang explained quietly. “She’s Sokka and Katara’s older sister.”
Zuko nodded in response before speaking. “W-What happened to her?”
“She got captured by the Fire Nation on the Day of Black Sun,” Aang replied, looking down at his lap. “You know about the invasion right?”
Zuko nodded once more.
“Well it was Sokka’s invasion plan,” Aang continued. Zuko’s eyebrows rose up in surprise, going unnoticed by Aang. “He came up with it and (Y/N) and Hakoda, that’s their dad, fine tuned it. They thought of everything that could possibly go wrong and when the day came, Sokka was the one leading it.”
Aang’s face suddenly turned into one full of guilt. “I-It was actually my fault that she got captured. If I hadn’t gotten distracted by Azula, we could’ve gotten away before the eclipse was over. Instead, they caught up to us before we could get back to the beach. Hakoda told us all to leave on Appa and to take the youngest members of the group but (Y/N) didn’t fit because we had Teo, Haru, and The Duke with us. So she decided to stay behind and take the blame for the invasion so that they wouldn’t go out and look for us. She said that they’d believe her because she was traveling with the Avatar and because she was the daughter of the Chief of the Southern Water Tribe and she had a reason to want to attack the Fire Nation.”
Aang couldn’t stop the tear that slipped out. “I guess she was right because we weren’t followed after we escaped.”
“C’mon Twinkletoes,” Toph said, leaning back on her hands. “(Y/N) knew what she was getting into. She’s not dumb. She’s strong, smart, and patient. In fact, I’m willing to bet she’s making those Fire Nation guard’s lives hell.”
Zuko observed Toph as she spoke about the missing Water Tribe girl. “How are you so sure?”
“Please,” Toph scoffed, cracking her knuckles. “She’s the only idiot here that can beat me in a fight. She’ll be fine.”
“Oh,” Zuko said, slightly surprised. “Is she a waterbender too?”
“Nope,” Toph said. “That’s how I know she’s okay. She can beat me in a fight, and I’m the greatest earthbender in the world! I invented metalbending.”
Zuko’s eyebrows shot up in surprise at Toph’s words. “She beat you without any bending?”
“She did,” Sokka’s voice rang out. The group (except Toph) turned around to find Sokka walking towards them. “Which is why we needed her here, not in prison. She shouldn’t be paying for my mistakes.”
Without another word Sokka climbed onto Appa, shooting Aang a look when the Air Nomad shot him a worried glance. “Don’t worry Aang. I’m just gonna clear my head. Yip yip.”
The conversation ended with Sokka’s departure and silently, Aang showed Zuko to his room.
~
“Hey, can I talk to you for a second?” Sokka asked, catching Zuko’s attention as he handed him a cup of tea. Zuko set down the tea and followed Sokka to where he was standing, softly petting Appa when he opened his eyes to look at them.
“So, what’s up?” Zuko asked, looking back over at the group before focusing on Sokka.
“If someone was captured by the Fire Nation, where would they be taken?” the Water Tribe boy asked, trying to look nonchalant. At Zuko’s suspicious look, he spoke again. “When the invasion plan failed, some of our troops were taken. I just want to know where they might be.”
“We both know this is about your sister, Sokka,” Zuko replied. “I can’t tell you.”
“What? Why not?” Sokka asked, mildly irritated.
“Trust me,” Zuko said, turning to leave. “Knowing will just make you feel worse.”
“It’s not just about (Y/N)!” Sokka hissed, causing Zuko to stop in his tracks. “It’s my dad. He was captured too. I need to know what I put them through.”
“It’s not good Sokka,” the prince replied, not meeting his eyes.
“Please.”
Sighing deeply, Zuko gave in. “My guess is, they were taken to The Boiling Rock.”
“What’s that?”
“The highest security prison in the Fire Nation,” Zuko ignored Sokka’s horrified look. “It's on an island in the middle of a boiling lake. It's inescapable.”
“So,” Sokka said, trying to appear indifferent. “Where is this place?”
“Why do you need to know?” Zuko asked, eyes narrowing. “What are you planning?”
“Nothing!” Sokka tried reassuring the prince. “Boy, you’re so paranoid.”
Zuko rolled his eyes before replying. “It's in the middle of a volcano between here and the Fire Nation. You guys actually flew right past it on your way here.”
“Thanks Zuko,” Sokka said before letting out a very fake yawn as he stretched. “Just knowing makes me feel better.”
“Sure it does,” Zuko scoffed, watching the Water Tribe boy walk away. Noticing that everyone was getting ready to go to bed, he stealthily climbed up onto Appa’s saddle, gently shushing the sky bison when he once again opened his eyes.
~
At this moment, Zuko sort of regretted joining Sokka on his journey. After having successfully convinced him to take his war balloon instead of Appa, the two boys found themselves existing in awkward silence.
“Pretty clouds,” Sokka spoke first, slightly startling Zuko.
“Yeah...fluffy,” the Fire Nation prince replied before focusing on the fire again. Sokka began whistling casually, drawing Zuko’s attention. “What?”
“What?” Sokka asked, the awkwardness between the two boys palpable. “Oh, I didn't say anything. You know, a friend of mine actually designed these war balloons.”
“No kidding,” Zuko said with slight surprise.
“Yep. A balloon...but for war,” came the other boy’s reply.
“If there's one thing my dad's good at, it's war.”
“Yeah, it seems to run in the family.”
“Hey, hold on,” Zuko said, slightly offended. “Not everyone in my family is like that.”
“I know, I know,” Sokka replied, hands raised in defense. “You’ve changed.”
“I meant my uncle. He was more of a father to me. And I really let him down.”
“I think your uncle would be proud of you,” Sokka said, looking at Zuko intently. “Leaving your home to come help us? That's hard.”
“It wasn’t that hard.”
“Really?” Sokka asked in disbelief. “You didn't leave behind anyone you cared about?”
“Well I did have a girlfriend,” Zuko replied, smiling slightly. “Mai.”
“That gloomy girl who sighs a lot?” Sokka asked, trying to hold back his smile.
“Yeah. Everyone in the Fire Nation thinks I'm a traitor. I couldn't drag her into it,” Zuko explained before hesitating slightly. “Besides, I didn’t truly like her. Trust me, I know that sounds bad. When we were kids we liked each other, but we’re not kids anymore and we’ve both changed and things just weren’t working out.”
Sokka nodded in understanding before crossing his arms. “My first girlfriend turned into the moon.”
Zuko paused for a few seconds, looking up at the moon and wondering if Sokka was being serious before turning to him. “That’s rough buddy.”
Silence ensued again, the scene almost relaxing if it weren’t for the fact that the two of them were heading for the most high-security prison in the Fire Nation.
“So,” Zuko broke the silence, looking at Sokka uncertainly. “What happens if we get there and (Y/N) isn’t there?
The question caught Sokka off guard, causing him to scowl. “She will be.”
“But,” Zuko pressed, trying to make the boy understand. “What if she isn’t?
“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” Sokka replied, crossing his arms and looking away as he tried not to think about Zuko’s words.
“Why don’t you just wait until after Aang defeats my father to set everyone free?” Zuko asked softly. “You’d have a much better chance then.”
“You just don’t get it!” Sokka yelled, looking back at Zuko. “See you and your sister might not get along very well but (Y/N) is the most important person in my life. She was the one who took care of me and Katara after our mom died. She was the one who basically led our tribe after the men went off to fight. She always knew what to say and what to do. We need her Zuko. I need her, Katara needs her, Aang definitely needs her, heck even Toph needs her!”
Zuko stayed silent as he focused on the fire, giving Sokka a few minutes to calm down.
“You’re right Sokka,” he finally said. “I don’t get along with Azula. We’ll find her.”
Sokka didn’t reply, instead choosing to look up at the moon, hoping that he had made the right choice.
~
Soon enough, they had reached The Boiling Rock. Zuko followed after Sokka, a bit disgruntled at the fact that his war balloon had been destroyed. They had somehow managed to get guard uniforms and sneak into the prison, a feat Zuko found impressive considering that Sokka didn’t have a fully thought-out plan.
“I hope these disguises work,” Zuko hissed, shoving Sokka softly with his shoulder.
“We just need to lay low and find (Y/N) and my dad as soon as possible,” Sokka quietly replied, rubbing his shoulder. “Ow!”
“Guards!” another guard ran past Sokka and Zuko, causing them to flinch. “There’s a scuffle in the yard. Come on!”
The two boys exchanged looks before running after the guard, eventually coming to an open space where a guard was harassing a prisoner. The rest of the guards were trying to keep the other prisoners away from the confrontation. Sokka subtly tilted his head, motioning for Zuko to join the other guards. They split up slightly, trying to keep the crowd in control.
“I didn’t do anything,” the prisoner in the middle of the platform stated, walking away from the guard. “I’m going back to my cell.”
“Stop right there Chit Sang,” the guard said, sending a fire whip towards him. “I’ve had it with your unruly behavior.”
One of the prisoners Zuko was trying to hold back began to slip past him and he reached out to grab them. His eyes widened when he made eye contact with the girl, who then promptly proceeded to shove him off of her and onto the ground. Zuko stared at the girl, his heart speeding up slightly and his stomach lurching as she shot him a glare and marched right up to the guard who had created the fire whip.
“Leave him alone!” she growled, stepping in front of Chit Sang. The guard simply laughed before stepping forwards.
“What are you gonna do Water Tribe scum?”
Zuko flinched as Sokka swatted him, tilting his head towards the girl. “That’s her! That’s (Y/N)!”
Sokka grasped Zuko’s arm tightly, knowing that he couldn’t jump to his sister’s defense. The two of them watched in anticipation as the guard shot out a blast of fire, aiming it at you. Zuko’s eyes widened at the sight. You weren’t a bender, you were going to get burned.
His jaw dropped as you gracefully slid underneath the blast before coming up and swatting the guard’s hand away. When the guard tried to aim at you again, you swept your leg in a graceful arc, knocking him down. You were amazing.
“Cuff her!” the guard barked, embarrassment clear on his face as all the other prisoners cheered. Two of the other guards grabbed you roughly, cuffing your hands behind your back and shoving you roughly in front of the guard you had knocked down.
“You think you’re tough, don’t you?” the guard asked. You didn’t look at him.
“Look at me when I speak to you!” the guard screamed. The yard went silent as everyone waited to see what you would do. Slowly, you lifted your head and met the guard’s eyes. His face held a smug expression, which was soon wiped off when you leaned forward and spit in his face.
The yard went wild again, the guards struggling to keep the prisoners under control. The bully guard lunged forwards, gripping your face tightly in his hand. He stared you down for a few seconds before tossing you to the ground. Scowling, he turned to Sokka and Zuko, who seemed to be the only guards not busy at the moment. “You two! Take her to her cell.”
Sokka picked you up and Zuko led them inside, stealing glances at you as you walked. At one point Sokka caught his gaze, giving him a confused look before his eyes widened in realization. He looked between you and Zuko before glaring at the prince and shaking his head furiously. Zuko avoided his gaze after that. They found your cell quickly enough and Sokka softly pushed you in before stepping inside and pulling Zuko with him.
He took off your cuffs easily enough and you stepped away from him, rubbing your wrists gently.
“What do you want?” you snarled, eyes shifting from one guard to another.
“(Y/N)!” one of them cried out, moving towards you. You sidestepped quickly, grabbing his arm and shoving him up against the wall. He groaned in pain as you pulled his arm back.
“What do you want?” you hissed, not taking your eyes off of the other guard.
“(Y/N/N),” the one you were holding squeaked. “It’s me!”
Your eyes widened at the voice and you stepped back, still keeping your hand on the guard’s arm. “Sokka?”
Sokka used his free hand to take off his helmet, a large grin on his face as he turned to look at you. “Yes! It’s m-”
His words were cut off when you yanked on his arm, pulling him close to you as you wrapped your arms around him in a tight hug. Sokka melted into the hug, wrapping his arms around you tightly as he held tears back.
“Spirits,” you whispered, pulling back and looking at your baby brother. “Sokka what are you doing here? How did you get here?”
“Uh, we took my war balloon,” the other guard replied. You froze slightly at the familiar voice, turning to find Prince Zuko standing there, waving awkwardly.
“You,” you snarled, stomping up to the prince and pushing him up against the wall. You held your forearm against his throat, staring him down. Zuko didn’t do anything in return, a dazed smile on his face as he stared back at you.
“(Y/N) what are you doing?” Sokka yelped, placing a hand on your shoulder. You looked away from Zuko, glancing at your brother in disbelief.
“What do you mean? Have you forgotten that he’s tracked us all over the world? Or that he’s tried to kill us? Multiple times!” you glanced at Zuko again, noticing that he was still smiling. “Why are you smiling at me? Sokka, why is he smiling at me?”
Sokka snorted softly, the scene in front of him reminding him of the first time Aang had met him and Katara. Shooting a tired look at Zuko, he gently pulled you away from the scarred prince. “I don’t know why he’s smiling at you but I do know that he’s part of the team now, so lay off okay?”
You looked at him in disbelief before whirling around and facing Sokka. “Alright but that still doesn’t explain why you’re here.”
“We’re here to break you out?” Sokka said, rubbing the back of his neck as he turned his gaze to the floor.
“Seriously?” you hissed, stepping closer to him and causing him to stumble back. “This couldn’t have waited until after Aang defeated Ozai?”
“I told you so,” Zuko mumbled, shooting a pointed look at Sokka.
“Stay out of this,” you whisper-yelled, pushing him back up against the wall with one hand. “You have to leave. Both of you.“
“Well you see,” Sokka said, chuckling slightly as he met your gaze. “We can’t exactly do that.”
“Yes you can,” you replied, grabbing Sokka and proceeding to push the two boys towards the door. “Just get back on your little war balloon and leave.”
Zuko and Sokka exchanged nervous glances at the mention of the war balloon, causing you to narrow your eyes at them.
“Don’t say it.”
“It popped!” Sokka squealed, bouncing away from you as he noticed your expression. “But we’ll get out of here, and you’re coming with us.”
You couldn’t help but facepalm at your brother’s words.
~
The guards had only released you from your cell when it was your turn to do the cleaning. You hadn’t heard from Sokka since he had left you, and you were worried that he had gotten caught. You were so distracted by your thoughts that you didn’t notice the other prisoner who was mopping, resulting in you bumping into them and falling down.
“I’m sorry,” the other prisoner said, extending a hand to help you up. You glanced up, making eye contact with Zuko. Your eyes widened almost comically and you grabbed his hand, simultaneously pulling yourself up and pulling him closer to you.
“Where is my brother?” you asked as you leaned in close, panic in your voice as you whispered in his ear. Zuko tried to ignore the blush on his cheeks as your close proximity, focusing on your question.
“He’s fine,” he whispered back. “It was just me who got caught.”
You let his hand go, stepping back and nodding subtly before going back to mopping. Zuko stayed close to you, pretending to be focused on his mopping as he stole glances at you. Feeling his gaze, you looked up and arched an eyebrow as you made eye contact. The prince flushed when he realized he had been caught, looking back down before speaking.
“I-I never introduced myself,” he spoke softly. “I’m Zuko.”
“I know,” you replied flatly, walking further away from him. Zuko stood awkwardly for a moment before inching closer to you again.
“So you’re (Y/N),” he spoke again. “It’s nice to finally meet you.”
You snorted at his words, your eyes not leaving the ground. “Yeah I’m sure it is.”
“You’re a really good fighter,” Zuko continued, still trying to make conversation. “Even back when I was still hunting the Avatar you were the one that I was most worried about holding off.”
“Good to know,” you said drily, finally looking up at Zuko. “Look, Sokka may trust you but I don’t, okay? First of all, you haven’t really done anything but cause trouble for us. Second of all, you actually brought my brother here. I appreciate the sentiment but I’m not exactly thrilled at the idea of my baby brother breaking into a Fire Nation prison.”
Zuko swallowed harshly, looking away. “I’m sorry. But he was really adamant about rescuing you and your dad and-”
“Wait,” you interrupted Zuko. “I’m the only Water Tribe member here. My dad is still being held somewhere in the Fire Nation capital.”
Zuko’s eyes widened briefly before he composed himself. “Oh. Alright then I guess that means we can leave as soon as Sokka comes back to meet us.”
The two of you continued to mop in silence before someone suddenly grabbed your upper arm, causing you to stiffen and causing Zuko to get into a defensive stance.
“Calm down, it’s just me.”
“You really have to stop doing that Sokka,” you hissed, yanking your arm away from him. “Zuko told me about why you’re here. I hope you know we can leave now. Dad isn’t here.”
Sokka’s face fell briefly before he forced a smile onto his face. “He may not be but guess who is? Suki! Why didn’t you tell me she was here (Y/N)?”
“Oh, I don’t know,” you whispered. “Maybe because I was too busy freaking out about the fact that my kid brother and the Fire Nation prince broke into prison and don’t have a way to get out!”
“Shh!” Sokka hissed, putting his hand over your mouth. “Be quiet! And I’m not your ‘kid brother’, you’re only a year older than I am.”
Zuko stayed quiet as the two of you stared each other down before Sokka let out a yelp and took his hand off your mouth. “Did you just lick me?”
You didn’t reply, a smirk on your face as you crossed your arms. Zuko stifled a laugh at the scene in front of him, coughing quietly when you shot a look at him. The three of you stood still as a new voice interrupted.
“So, what’s the plan?” Suki stood near you, hiding in the shadows that the staircase provided. You exchanged a glance with Sokka, nodding in encouragement.
“So, listen, I think I have an escape plan,” Sokka began, a little nervous at being in charge of the escape plan. “I checked out the coolers again, and the point of them is to keep firebenders contained, right?”
“Yeah,” Zuko replied, unsure as to where this was going.
“So, they're completely insulated and sealed to keep the cold in. Well, to keep the cold in, it also has to keep the heat out, right?”
Zuko and Suki exchanged confused looks before looking over at you, only to see you smiling widely as you caught on.
“Just get to the point Sokka,” Suki said, glancing around nervously.
“It's a perfect boat for getting through the boiling water!” you said, eyes sparkling as you looked at Sokka proudly. Despite the situation, Zuko found himself smiling at the sight of your smile.
“Sokka,” you said, leaning in close to your brother while keeping your eyes on Zuko. “He’s doing it again.”
Sokka scowled and smacked Zuko’s head, causing the boy to straighten up and ignore Suki’s smirk. “The cooler as a boat? Are you sure?”
“I’m telling you, it’ll work,” Sokka said, giving them each a serious glance. “I walked around the perimeter. There's a blind spot between two guard towers. It's the perfect launching point. I already tested it out. We'll roll the cooler into the water and just float with the current. It'll take us straight across. As long as we don't make a sound, no one will notice. And bing-bang-boom, we're home free.”
“But how are you going to get the cooler out?” Suki asked, a worried frown on her face.
“Yeah. How are you gonna get the cooler out?”
The four of you turned as Chit Sang landed next to you, causing Sokka and Zuko to stutter as they tried to tell Chit Sang that they weren’t planning anything. You rolled your eyes, stepping closer to Chit Sang before speaking. “That’s easy, isn’t it? We just need to get a firebender into the cooler.”
Sokka and Zuko gaped at you, shocked that you had given them away.
“Calm down,” you scoffed, patting Chit Sang’s back. “Chit Sang and I go way back. He’s the one who made all the other firebenders leave me alone.”
Chit Sang nodded before turning back to the group. “Look I won’t tell the warden about your plan if you let me come along.”
Sokka stared at you intently, the two of you having a silent conversation before turning back to the group. “Fine! But we need to get someone into the cooler.”
Sokka handed Zuko a wrench. “Here. You’re going to unbolt the cooler, from the inside.”
Zuko looked back at Sokka, confused. “How am I going to get in there?”
You grinned widely, patting Zuko’s chest as you walked past him. “I got this. Follow my lead.”
You picked up your mop, motioning for Zuko to do the same. You began mopping, casually walking around as you kept Zuko in your periphery. The prince didn’t dare look at you so he was caught by surprise when you bumped into him from behind.
“Hey!” you snapped, turning around and glaring at him. “Watch where you’re going.”
Zuko froze for a split second before realizing this was your plan. “You’re the one who bumped into me. How about you watch where you’re going?”
A smile played at the corner of your lips as you stared each other down. Zuko noticed and felt his cheeks grow warm as he tried to hold back a smile of his own. The two of you stood there for a few seconds, staring at each other until Sokka coughed loudly.
Tearing your eyes away from the prince, you lunged at him. He easily dodged your swing before throwing a halfhearted punch back at you. You rolled your eyes as you kicked at him, losing your balance slightly as he swatted your leg away. You recovered quickly and threw another punch, a soft gasp leaving your mouth when he grasped your wrist and twirled you around, your back pressed against his chest as his arm held you tightly in place.
You struggled for a moment, sighing in defeat when you realized just how strong he was. You tilted your head back slightly, your lips brushing against his ear as you whispered into it. “You have to firebend at me Zuko.”
“I don’t want to hurt you,” he mumbled back, causing you to roll your eyes again.
“I’m a big girl. I can handle myself,” you replied. With a grunt, you elbowed him in the stomach. He let out a soft ‘oof’ and you took that chance to break out of his hold. You dropped down and spun, your leg outstretched as you tried to knock him down. He jumped over your leg easily before shooting out a blast of fire at you. He held his breath for a second, sighing in relief as he noticed you roll out of the way.
“No firebending!” a guard shouted, roughly grabbing Zuko from behind. You sent him a soft smile, receiving a smirk in return. As he was led away, Suki came up to you, a big smile on her face.
“So,” she said, her tone teasing. “What was that?”
“Yeah (Y/N),” Sokka said, crossing his arms as he came up to you. “What was that?”
You rolled your eyes before walking past the two of them. “It was a fight.”
“That’s not what it looked like from my point of view,” Suki called out after you, causing Sokka to send a glare at her. You simply chuckled at her words.
~
“(Y/N)?”
You stood up from the floor of your cell, looking at Sokka as he stood outside your cell. “Yeah?”
“It’s time.”
Sokka opened your cell and threw you a guard’s uniform before quickly closing the door and allowing you to change. When you were done, you knocked on the door three times, fixing your helmet as you waited for him to open the door.
Together, the two of you made your way towards the cooler, trying to avoid any guards on your way.
You opened the door to the cooler, a small frown making its way onto your face when you noticed that Zuko was shivering.
“I can take you back to your cell if you’ve learned your lesson,” Sokka said, looking way too smug. You rolled our eyes and focused on Zuko as he looked up at the two of you. His eyes met yours as he let out a breath of fire, his shivering stopping completely. He sent you a cocky smirk and you ignored the flopping you felt in your stomach at the sight of it. (A/N: y’all know what smirk i’m talkin bout)
“Yes I have,” he breathed, showing you both all the bolts and screws he had removed. “Completely.”
“I got Suki and Chit Sang out of their cells a few minutes ago,” Sokka whispered. “They'll be waiting for us at the shore.”
“Someone’s coming!” you whisper yelled, letting out a small yelp when you were pulled into the cooler. The three of you barely fit into the cooler but that didn’t make it any less cold. Even though you had grown up in the South Pole, you found yourself shivering at the temperature, your breath coming out in icy clouds.
Zuko glanced down at you, a frown appearing on his face as he noticed you shivering. He hesitantly wrapped his arms around you, bringing you in close as your expression changed into a bewildered one. You opened your mouth to say something, but quickly shut it when you realized just how warm he was. Sokka, unfortunately, didn’t stay quiet at the scene playing out in front of him.
“What do you think you’re doing?” he screeched quietly, trying to pry the two of you apart. You quickly pushed him away.
“Sokka, shut up,” you mumbled as you wrapped your arms around Zuko, your teeth still chattering. “He’s warm and I’m freezing.”
Sokka’s jaw dropped as you casually buried your face into Zuko’s chest, a content sigh escaping you as you got warmer by the second. Sokka stayed quiet as the voices outside got closer, instead miming a throat slitting motion as he stared Zuko down, causing the prince to swallow harshly.
“...Yeah. new arrivals coming in at dawn,” a male voice sounded, catching your attention.
“Anybody interesting?” a female voice asked in reply.
“Nah, just the usual. Some robbers, a couple traitors, some war prisoners,” you and Sokka exchanged a disbelieving look.  “Though I did hear there might be a pirate.”
“No fooling!”
The voices faded as they walked away and you all took that chance to leave the cooler.
“War prisoners,” Zuko stated, his eyes not leaving Sokka’s. “Could be your father.”
“I know.”
“Well, what should we do?” Zuko asked. “Are we going ahead with the plan or are we waiting another night?”
“I don't know!” Sokka cried out, looking distraught. “Is it right for me to risk Suki and (Y/N)’s freedom, all of our freedom, on the slim chance that my dad is gonna show up?”
You stayed quiet, not knowing what to say.
“It’s your call Sokka,” Zuko finally said, trying to let the other boy know he was there for him.
Sokka thought about it for a moment, eyes focused on the ground. After a few seconds he looked up and scowled, crossing his arms as he glared at you. “You can let go of him now (Y/N).”
A bright blush erupted on your cheeks as you looked at Zuko, an embarrassed expression spreading across your face as you realized you were still holding onto each other. You stepped away from him quickly, clearing your throat as you did so.
~
The three of you had somehow managed to get the cooler down to the shore, not that it mattered considering the fact that Chit Sang had just taken your only means of escape. It wasn’t his fault really; it was you and Sokka who had been extremely hesitant to leave, not wanting to risk the chance of your dad being on the gondola the next morning.
Suki and Zuko had stayed behind with you, the four of you waiting in the blind spot for the gondola to arrive. It had almost been light out when alarms were set off, causing all of you to whip your heads to where the cooler had been floating off.
“The plan failed!” Sokka said sadly. “They got caught.”
“I guess it’s a good thing we didn’t go along with them huh?” you said, earning a dull look from your brother.
“The gondola's moving,” Sokka said suddenly, grasping your hand. “This is it. If my dad's not there, we've risked everything for nothing.”
“We had to,” you whispered back, squeezing his hand. The four of you now stood in the yard as you waited in anticipation, looking up as the gondola doors opened.
“Is that him?” Zuko asked as the first prisoner got out.
“My dad doesn’t have a nose ring!” both you and Sokka exclaimed, looking at the prince weirdly. More men came off the gondola, both you and Sokka shaking with anxiety as you kept an eye out for Hakoda.
“Where is he?” Sokka asked as the last man stepped off. “Is that it? That can’t be it.”
“I’m sorry,” Suki whispered, rubbing both of your backs.
“Hey you!” the guard called out, drawing your attention. “Get off the gondola.”
You waited with bated breath for the last person to emerge, your hand tightening around Sokka’s and causing him to wince. Your eyes widened as you watched the final prisoner get off, dark jaw-length hair surrounding a face that held tired blue eyes. You immediately turned to Sokka, tears threatening to spill.
“Sokka,” you whispered. “It’s dad.”
~
You had been pacing back and forth worriedly ever since Sokka had gone to join the other guards and quite frankly, both Suki and Zuko were tired of it.
“Please just stand still (Y/N),” Suki said, gently reaching out and grabbing you. “If something was wrong, we would’ve heard it already. Your brother isn’t exactly the quietest.”
You nodded in agreement and sat down, nervously biting your lip as you waited for Sokka to return. You barely flinched as Zuko sat next to you, Suki giving him a knowing glance as she wandered off slowly.
“Look,” he began, staring straight ahead. “I know you don’t like me, but I need to tell you this okay? As much as you can’t help but worry, you shouldn’t. Sokka’s smart and he knows what he’s doing...sort of.”
He chuckled at the halfhearted glare you directed at him. “I’m kidding. But really, Sokka’s smart and brave and he was so set on coming up here and breaking you out and I know he’s going to do it because he has heart. Plus he has you helping him out. So stop worrying so much okay? Also, never repeat any of what I just said to him”
You snorted at Zuko’s words before bumping his shoulder with your. “Thanks Zuko. You know what? Maybe you’re not as bad as I thought.”
The prince’s eyes widened in shock and he smiled down at you, blushing slightly when you smiled back. Your moment was ruined when Sokka came sprinting back, causing Suki to join you as well.
“(Y/N), c’mon! I found him,” Sokka exclaimed. Without another word, he grabbed your arm and dragged you away from the group. A wide smile was on his face and you felt yourself smile as well when you came to a stop in front of a cell.
Sokka slid the door open, looking around before ducking inside and draging you with him. “Thank goodness you’re okay!”
“Oh you’ll see just how ‘okay’ I am,” Hakoda replied, swinging at what he believed to be a guard. You stepped in front of Sokka before pushing Hakoda’s arm out of the way, ducking under it and pushing him softly before pulling Sokka out of the way.
Hakoda’s eyes widened at the familiar movements, searching the faces of the two guards standing before him. “Sokka? (Y/N)?”
"Dad!” you cried out in unison with Sokka, the two of you removing your masks as you smiled at Hakoda. His eyes filled with tears as he brought you into a hug and you couldn’t help but let a few tears slip as well.
“Where’s Katara? Is she okay?”
“She’s fine dad,” you said, tightening your hold on Hakoda. “She’s not here.”
“Where’s Bato?” Sokka asked, pulling away. “Where’s everyone else from the invasion?”
“The others are being held at a prison near the Fire Nation palace,” Hakoda replied. “They sent me here because I kept being difficult after they singled (Y/N) out as the leader and sent her here. But before I left, I met some young women who said they knew you. The...Oshinama Fighters? ”
“You mean the Kyoshi Warriors?” you asked.
“That’s right.”
“Their leader Suki is here,” Sokka said, a blush visible on his face. “She’s gonna escape with us too!”
“Good. We'll need all the help we can get.”
“And you know Prince Zuko?” Sokka asked, getting excited at the thought of finally leaving.
“The son of the Fire Lord?” Hakoda asked hesitantly. “I don't know him, but I know of him.”
"Well he’s here too!” Sokka exclaimed.
“That sounds like a major problem,” Hakoda replied, crossing his arms as his face hardened.
“Actually,” Sokka said, smiling nervously. “He’s on our side now.”
Hakoda shot him a disbelieving look, causing you to step in.
“I had the same reaction dad,” you said, putting a hand on Hakoda’s shoulder. “But he really has changed. He came here with Soka to break me out. He’s been a big help.”
Hakoda’s face softened at your words. You had always been a good judge of character, so if you approved of the prince, then he did too. “So, do you have a plan?”
“We had one,” Sokka said, looking down sadly. “But some of the other prisoners got involved and ruined it. I dunno if there's another way off this island.”
“Sokka, there's no prison in the world that can hold three Water Tribe geniuses.”
“Then I guess we’d better find two more to help me plan something,” you teased, making Hakoda laugh and earning a dull look from Sokka.
~
You sprinted towards the yard, having been distracted by another guard for a few minutes before all the prisoners had been let out. When you reached your dad, Suki, and Sokka, you were surprised to see Chit Sang speaking with them.
“Hey you! You're lucky I didn't rat you out,” Chit Sang said, staring Sokka down. “But my generosity comes with a price. I know you're planning another escape attempt, and I want in.”
You nodded at Sokka, telling him to go along with it. He sighed softly before facing Chit Sang. “Actually, we're trying to escape right now, but we need a riot. You wouldn't happen to know how to start one, would you?”
“You seriously couldn’t start a prison riot?” you asked in disbelief, looking at the three of them in disappointment. “C’mon Chit Sang, let’s show them how it’s done.”
The two of you stepped forwards, Chit Sang picking up another prisoner as you strutted up to one of them.
“Hey everybody!” you yelled, the yard going quiet as you spoke. Without hesitation, you punched the prisoner closest to you. “Riot!”
The yard exploded into chaos as people began fighting and throwing stuff around. You quickly fought off the prisoner that you had punched before returning to your friends.
“Impressive,” Hakoda said, looking around at all the chaos.
You turned and swung as you felt someone bump into you, the person letting out a loud grunt as your fist met their face. Your jaw dropped as your eyes met piercing gold ones, your hands coming up to your face in slight horror as you realized that you had just punched Zuko.
“Yep,” he said, clutching his face. “I probably deserved that after everything I’ve done to you.”
“I’m so sorry,” you choked out in between giggles, earning a smile from the prince.
“Zuko! Good, we’re all here,” Sokka said, drawing you all into a huddle. “Now all we need to do is grab the warden, and get to the gondolas!”
“And how do we do that?” Zuko asked.
Sokka hesitated for a few seconds. “I’m not sure.”
Zuko groaned, throwing his hands up in frustration. “I thought you thought this through!”
“I thought you told me it's okay not to think everything through”
“Maybe not everything, but this is kind of important!” Zuko cried out.
“Hey fella,” Chit Sang interrupted, tapping Zuko’s shoulder before pointing at you. “I think your girlfriend’s taking care of it.”
“You’re dating my daughter?” Hakoda asked, glaring at Zuko.
“W-What? No!” Zuko cried out, slightly fearful of the Water Tribe Chief.
“Damn right you’re not,“ Sokka said, crossing his arms before Chit Sang spun him around.
“Your girlfriend too buddy.”
All four males went silent as they observed both you and Suki. You swiftly made your way up the tower, effortlessly taking guards down as you inched towards the warden. Suki took a stance at the base of the tower, fighting off any other guards who attempted to rush to the warden’s rescue. She was a truly impressive sight, her training as a Kyoshi Warrior shining through as she took down every guard that came at her effortlessly. Sokka stood a few yards away, awestruck at the sight in front of him.
Meanwhile, you had successfully made your way up to the top of the tower. You made quick work of the remaining guards before finally facing the warden.
“You wouldn’t dare,” he snarled, getting into a defensive position.
“Watch me,” you quipped, lunging at him. You avoided his punch, grabbing his wrist and spinning him around before shoving him up against the railing. You grabbed his sash, tying his hands before knocking him down and making sure he was tied securely before smiling over at your dad. “You’re my prisoner now warden.”
Down in the yard, Hakoda, Zuko, and Chit Sang all stared at you in awe, Sokka still focused on Suki.
“That’s my girl,” Hakoda stated, a proud look on his face as he looked up at you.
“Do you think she’d want to be my girl?” Zuko muttered dazedly, unintentionally speaking louder than he meant to. When he realized what he had said, he looked up in embarrassment, being met with an amused glance from Chit Sang, a harsh scowl from Hakoda, and a sharp slap from Sokka.
“Shut up!” Sokka hissed before grabbing Zuko’s arm and rushing to join you and Suki.
You all ran to the gondola, making sure that the warden was still tied up as you dragged him with you.
“We’re almost there!” Suki cried out.
“Spoke too soon,” you groaned as a group of guards came across your path, immediately sending two blasts of fire at you. You yelped as Zuko pulled you out of the way before stepping in front of you and dissipating the blasts. He sent a series of blasts back at them before grabbing the warden from you.
“Back off! We've got the warden!“ he shouted, successfully stopping the guards. When they didn’t make any movements he grabbed your hand and tugged you along. “Let's go”
Suki was the first to make it to the gondola, holding the door open for everyone else. “Everyone in!”
You all clambered on and you glanced around, realizing that someone was missing.
“Zuko!” you yelled, looking back at the prince. He started the gondola and you felt yourself panic as the guards closed in on him. “What are you doing? Hurry up!”
“I’m making it so that they can’t stop us!” With a few kicks, Zuko managed to break the lever that controlled the gondola before sprinting towards you. You leaned out of the door slightly, watching him in anticipation.
“C’mon Zuko,” you whispered to yourself, biting your lip as the gondola left the platform, now hanging freely. Zuko sped up and jumped, his feet landing on the edge of the gondola. He wobbled for a bit before you grasped his arm, fully pulling him into the gondola and into your arms. Zuko looked at you in confusion before wrapping his arms around you as well.
“Are you sure they’re not dating?” Hakoda asked, his voice quiet as he addressed Sokka. Sokka sent Zuko a menacing glare, the scarred prince gulping and loosening his hold on you when he noticed.
“What were you thinking?” you cried out, finally pulling away from Zuko and slapping his head.
“Ow!” Zuko hissed, rubbing the spot you had hit. “I was thinking ‘let me get rid of this lever real quick so that they don’t catch us’.”
“You could’ve gotten captured!” you yelled at him, taking a step towards him.
“Way to think ahead,” Sokka commented, saving Zuko from another slap.
“We’re finally on our way.” Suki sighed, sharing a soft smile with Sokka.
“Wait,” Hakoda said, leaning out of the window. “Who’s that?”
You leaned out of the window on the other side of the gondola, resisting the urge to blush as you felt Zuko’s chest press up against your back as he tried to get a good look at the platform.
“That’s a problem,” Zuko groaned. “It’s my sister and her friend.”
“This is a rematch I’ve been waiting for,” Suki growled, cracking her knuckles.
“Get in line,” you scoffed, your eyes narrowing as you watched the princess approach. You climbed out of the gondola and onto the roof, being followed by Sokka, Suki, and Zuko.
Suki and Sokka turned to face Ty Lee as she landed onto the roof gracefully, quickly becoming preoccupied with the chi-blocker. You carefully observed Azula as she landed a few feet away from you, staring you down as she stalked closer.
“Well, well, well,” she spoke, her voice taunting. “If it isn’t the Water Tribe scum.”
“Don’t speak to her like that,” Zuko barked, stepping slightly in front of you.
“Aww, does Zuzu have a little crush?” Azula teased, pouting as she shifted her gaze to Zuko. “Snap out of it Zuko. We raided her village multiple times. She’ll never see you as anything other than a monster.”
“Still not over what your mother used to say about you huh?” you shot back, missing the hurt look in Azula’s eyes as she shot lightning at you. You swiftly dodged the blast and ran at her, sliding onto the ground when she let out another blast.
Zuko watched as you stood up, landing a solid hit on his sister before bouncing back and dodging the hit she sent your way. He tried to find an opening to attack Azula but eventually gave up for fear of hurting you. Instead he chose to jump into the fight and wipe out the blasts Azula kept sending at you, even if you were expertly dodging them.
Azula soon grew tired of the fight, and knowing that she couldn’t beat you in the moment decided to send a blast of fire at Zuko. She caught him off guard and although he managed to wipe out the blast, he ended up tumbling back and landing dangerously close to the gondola’s edge.
“Zuko!” you yelled, momentarily distracted from the fight. Azula took this chance to kick you down, punching you before kicking you once more when you tried to scramble to your feet. You were sent stumbling against the metal handle that attached the gondola to the cable, gasping in pain as you crashed against it. She grinned widely when your head hit the metal.
You blew your hair out of your face, wincing as you reached up to touch the sore spot on your head and sighing when you noticed the blood on your fingertips.
“You have nowhere to go,” Azula stated, stalking towards you. Blue fire danced at her fingertips, her eyes hungry with anticipation as you struggled to stand. “Such a shame, you could’ve been a great asset to me.”
“I would rather die than join you,” you shot back, finally managing to stand up.
“Fine,” Azula spat, the fire growing as she narrowed her eyes. “Have it your way.”
You closed your eyes and braced yourself, knowing that you were in no shape to block her attack. You felt the heat approaching before it disappeared. Opening your eyes, you gasped softly as you saw Zuko standing in front of you. He sent blasts of fire back at Azula before the gondola swung dangerously, sending them both stumbling.
“They’re about to cut the line!” Ty Lee shouted at Azula.
“Then it’s time to leave,” the princess smirked. “Goodbye Zuko.”
Azula blasted away as Ty Lee backflipped gracefully onto the other gondola. Zuko glared at Azula briefly before rushing to your side, reaching down and gently picking you up.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his face twisting with concern as you stumbled.
“Yeah,” you breathed. “Just peachy.”
You tried to walk on your own only to stumble once more and fall right into Zuko’s arms. You shook your head slightly, trying to walk off once more.
“(Y/N), stop,” Zuko said, scooping your legs up and fully carrying you.
“P-Put me down!” you yelled, drawing Sokka and Suki’s attention.
“Hey! Put her down,” Sokka cried, rushing over to your side. He was stopped when the gondola swayed again.
“Stop struggling,” Zuko hissed, tightening his grip on you. “You can’t walk without stumbling. You probably have a concussion.”
You pouted but stayed silent, knowing that the prince was right. Carefully, he made his way over to the edge of the gondola, noticing that Hakoda was leaning out of the window. Carefully, he handed you down to him, making sure that you were safely inside before swinging himself in as well. Sokka and Suki quickly followed.
“They’re cutting the line,” Zuko stated, exchanging glances with everyone else. “The gondola’s about to go!”
“I hope this thing floats,” Hakoda said, fussing over your head wound as you tried to push him away.
“Hey!” you suddenly cried as the gondola began to move. You glanced out the window. “Who’s that?”
“That’s Mai!” Zuko exclaimed, his eyebrows furrowing as he observed her fighting with the guards.
The gondola made it to the other side without any other mishaps. When you got there, Zuko carefully picked you up once again, making his way out of the gondola. Sokka kept his gaze on him, only looking away when he felt Suki grab his hand. She shook her head at him before looking at you and Zuko. “Calm down. There are worse people she could be with.”
Sokka rolled his eyes at her words before trailing after Zuko, a barely visible smile appearing on his face as he noticed how Zuko was fussing over you as well. Hakoda and Chit Sang tossed the warden back into the gondola before joining the group. They all walked for a while before Zuko paused, standing on the cliff that was overlooking the rest of the volcano.
“What’s wrong Zuko?” you asked quietly, your eyes not leaving his face as he scanned the landscape in front of him. At this point, everyone else had backtracked to where you were standing.
“My sister was on that island,” was his only response.
“Yeah, and she's probably right behind us, so let's not stop!” Sokka said, trying to convince Zuko to keep moving.
“What I mean is she must have come here somehow,” he replied, his eyes still looking around.
“There!” you exclaimed, pointing at a large airship. “That's our way out of here!“
~
The six of you all managed to make it to the airship quickly enough and Zuko quickly lit the fire and guided it away from The Boiling Rock. The atmosphere was lively as everyone tried to catch up with each other, the excitement from the day eventually leaving everyone as the sun began setting. One by one, everyone fell asleep until it was just you and Zuko awake.
You had been looking around the ship, smirking in victory when you found a first aid kit. Silently you wandered out to where Zuko was, trying not to startle him.
“Long night?” you asked, leaning on the wall next to him.
“Someone has to keep the fire going,” he retorted, a faint smile present on his handsome face.
“Can you help me?” you asked quietly, meeting his eyes as he turned to face you. He nodded and you handed him the first aid kit before sitting down in front of him. You flinched slightly as his hand grabbed your jaw, closing your eyes as you reveled in his touch, remaining oblivious to the way his heart was racing at the close proximity. His touch was feather light in comparison to the guard who had grasped your jaw in a similar way back at the Boiling Rock. You snorted softly as you recalled the incident that had taken place a mere day ago; it seemed like it had happened ages ago.
“I’m sorry,” Zuko whispered, tilting your head to get better access to the cut on your head.
“It’s fine, it doesn’t hurt,” you murmured back, eyes still closed.
“Not about that,” Zuko replied, cleaning the wound as best as he could with the supplies you had given him. You hissed softly as he tried to place the bandage on, breathing deeply to try and ignore the pain. “I’m sorry about everything. I’m sorry for hunting the Avatar down and chasing you all around the world. I’m sorry about your mother. I’m sorry for the raids that tore your village apart. I’m sorry that I kept causing you harm even when I had the chance to do good.”
You opened your eyes at his words, reaching up and gently grabbing his hand to bring his attention to you. He could’ve sworn his heart skipped a beat. You stared at him in silence, his golden eyes never leaving yours even as he fidgeted uncomfortably under your gaze. Your face softened as you realized just how full of guilt Zuko really was, your heart aching as you realized that you couldn’t spend any more time hating him. Not when he had already done so much to try and make up for his mistakes.
“No Zuko,” you finally spoke, guiding him to take a seat in front of you. “I’m sorry for being so harsh towards you. You did more than enough to prove that you aren’t the same bratty prince you were when we first met but I wasn’t willing to look past the fact that you were once our enemy. You left the Fire Nation to help Aang and I can’t imagine how hard that was-”
“Trust me,” Zuko interjected, laughing humorlessly. “It wasn’t that hard. My father and sister are horrible people.”
“Still,” you said, leaning in a bit. “They’re your family. Betraying your family isn’t easy, even if you don’t get along with them.”
Silence ensued as Zuko stood up and carefully finished bandaging your cut. He took his seat in front of you once more, watching the fire as you watched him.
“What?” Zuko asked, his cheeks heating up he realized that you were still staring at him.
“Thank you Zuko,” you stated, finally looking away from the golden-eyed boy.
“Don’t thank me,” Zuko replied. “It was Sokka’s idea to break you out.”
“I mean for saving me from Azula,” you whispered, looking back up at him. “She really had me backed into a corner.”
“I wasn’t going to let her hurt you,” Zuko stated, staring into your eyes. “Sokka would’ve killed me if we came all this way just to lose you to her.”
You giggled at his words, causing him to smirk in satisfaction as he realized that he had made you laugh. “He would’ve, wouldn’t he?”
There was another silence before you spoke up again. “In all seriousness, thank you. I never thought that I’d be calling Prince Zuko my hero.”
Zuko gulped as he realized just how close the two of you were. Neither of you made a move to back away and you flushed when you caught yourself glancing at the prince’s lips.
You blushed harder when you realized he had caught you in the act.
“Zuko,” you whispered, squeaking softly when said boy leaned forwards and connected his lips with yours. The kiss was soft and hesitant, with both of you holding your breath as you realized you were kissing each other.
Pulling away, Zuko’s eyes widened. “Oh spirits. I-I’m sorry. I can’t believe I just did th-”
You cut Zuko’s apology off with another kiss, this one a little less awkward. His hand came up and grabbed your waist, pulling you a little closer as his other hand cupped your cheek. Your hand came up to grab his forearm, your brain trying to comprehend the fact that you were kissing Zuko and wondering how in the world he was such a good kisser.
“I thought you said you weren’t dating my daughter.”
The two of you flew apart as you heard Hakoda’s voice.
“D-Dad!” you exclaimed. “We weren’t- I wasn’t-”
Hakoda held up a hand to stop your stuttering. “It doesn’t matter. He risked his life to help your brother break you out of prison which means he’s good in my books. Just please don’t kiss in front of me. And maybe don’t let Sokka find out about this just yet. Good night.”
You turned to Zuko in embarrassment as Hakoda walked away, making eye contact with him before the two of you dissolved into laughter.
“Well that’s one way to get the parent’s approval,” you muttered, smiling at Zuko as he wrapped his arm around your shoulder and pulled you into him.
The two of you spent the rest of the night awake, talking about everything and nothing, stargazing as Zuko kept the flame alive.
“You know, I used to know the moon spirit when she was alive,” you said smugly, glancing up at Zuko as he smiled widely at you.
“Oh really?”
“Yeah! In fact, she was Sokka’s first girlfriend.”
Zuko smiled and pressed another kiss to your lips, smiling softly when he felt your hand come up to his chest.
And in that moment, Zuko knew he had made the right decision by deciding to join the Avatar. After all, if he hadn’t then why would the universe have chosen to reward him with something as amazing as you.

Hannibal Dating Someone Who’s Scared of the Dark
__
Hannibal Lecter x Fem! Reader
Request: hannibal lecter x reader who’s afraid of the dark hc (i hope you’re having a good day!)
A/N: This is ADORABLE.
__
Tumblr media
Hannibal isn’t scared of much.
Scratch that, Hannibal isn’t scared of anything.
Spiders don’t bother him. Neither does the ocean. And he’s certainly not afraid of the sight of blood.
No, Hannibal Lecter is pretty comfortable with just about anything.
And he often forgets that not everyone is as thick skinned as he is.
He found out about your fear of the dark purely on accident.
You were staying the night at his house for the first time.
You had showered already and were clad in one of his soft work shirts.
The two of you had snuggled up in bed for a little while, just chatting and spending time together under the soft light of his bedside table lamp.
Eventually though, your tiredness grew and it was time to get some sleep.
Without a second thought, Hannibal leaned over you to turn the light off.
And it was PITCH BLACK when he did.
It didn’t help that his bedroom windows had blackout curtains, so there was absolutely ZERO light coming in from anywhere.
Like, so dark that you couldn’t see your hand if you were to put it directly in front of your face.
Hannibal pulled you in flush to him, pressing a kiss to your templed before attempting to get some sleep.
You were far from sleep though.
Darkness had honestly been a fear of yours that stemmed all the way back to your childhood.
You weren’t quite sure what it was.
You thought it was maybe the vulnerability of not being able to use your vision.
Or perhaps the paranoid thought of what could be lurking about in the dark.
Whatever it was, you hated it.
Hannibal quickly noticed something was up when he realized you were as stiff as a board against him.
He could feel and almost hear your thumping heartbeat as your body pumped itself with adrenaline.
You were trying to hold it together with some deep breaths and focusing on the sound of the slight whirring from the ceiling.
At first, he thought you were just nervous about spending the night and sleeping in his bed for the first time.
He left a few quiet kisses on your cheek and neck to try and calm you down and help you feel at home.
But after several minutes, your status was unchanging.
He knew it was something else when you had a very intense reaction when he suddenly spoke.
“Is something the matter, [Y/N]?”
You flinched HARD when his voice sounded out.
It spooked you something awful.
At that, Hannibal leaned over you again and turned the light on again.
You visibly relaxed with relief.
“What’s gotten you so worked up?”
You felt silly admitting that you were scared of the dark.
So you brushed it off.
“Oh, nothing! You just startled me was all.”
“Are you certain that’s all?”
When you assured him you were fine, he went to turn the light off once more.
You weren’t having ANY of that.
You suddenly clung to him, burying your face in his soft t-shirt and letting out muffle pleas not to turn the light off.
It surprised him at first, but it soon made sense.
“Oh, darling...are you afraid of the dark?”
You only nodded vigorously, earning a chuckle from the man.
He knew you were being honest and vulnerable, but he couldn’t help but crack a joke.
“Are you scared of monsters under the bed too?”
You smacked his shoulders for that, another laugh sounding out of him.
He sat with you in the warm light, rubbing your back and hushing your fearful whimpers.
He felt bad that you didn’t say anything sooner.
You were embarrassed, but he used his therapist skills to comfort you.
“It’s a common fear. I’ve met people much older than you who are scared of the dark.”
It didn’t offer much comfort, but it eased your nerves a bit.
He talked you through it, explaining that you were totally safe in his home.
Once you were settled, Hannibal got up to peel back the curtains so there was enough light for you to be comfortable without the lamp, but enough darkness so he could get some sleep.
After that night, Hannibal was sure to remember to keep some sort of light in his bedroom so you’d feel secure there.
But that wasn’t the last time that he had to deal with your fear.
You didn’t mind nighttime storms, but when they caused the power to go out?
That was a different story.
It wasn’t too terribly late, only about 10 PM or so when the lights flickered and eventually went out.
You had been in his bed, waiting for him to close out his day when it happened.
Your loud shriek sent Hannibal running in from his study.
You had already bundled yourself up in the sheets, trembling wildly.
These times were worse, because you couldn’t get light at all.
Hannibal got into bed with you, cuddling under the sheets and whispering to you to keep you distracted.
“It’s just a storm...the lights will come back on soon.”
His voice always seemed to help you, and Hannibal had been working with you to help you work through your fear.
You mumbled an apology when the lights did come back on, feeling humiliated for having such a dramatic reaction.
He kissed you, telling you to never be ashamed for going to him (or calling for him) for comfort.
He was proud of you for trying to overcome it, even if you had some setbacks from time to time.

Yan!TF2 × reader headcannons (SFW and NSFW)
// obsessive tendancies, mentions of violence, blood, sexual themes, noncon
[SFW]
Let's start with the defense classes
Defense:
Demoman
Deffo didn't admit that he loved you
Tbh he probably blamed it on his drunkenness
But dude you're always drunk
I mean seriously if he sobers up he'll genuinely die so like-
He would usually drink with you or just around you if you don't drink
He's generally a fun chill guy to be with
He would watch you from a distance at times, especially during battle you might distract the cyclops
He's okay with you asking questions
One time he broke his eyepatch and needed a new one
You gave him a nice black eyepatch with the demoman emblem on it
He gets all red whenever you say his full name, because he knows you remembered it
He is generally against kidnapping, I mean especially since he lives with his ma he'd rather not
And because he's a gentleman
If you ever reciprocate his feelings he'll make sure to treat you right
He is a messy person but for you? He'll clean
Probably would get carried away and make home made bombs with all the cleaning supplies 🤦‍♂️
Takes you to meet his mom
"ooo Tavish, yer gonna get me some grand kiddos are ya?"
That made you both blush like crazy
Soft cheek kisses
Probably made a special bomb and named it after you
"this one's for you, luv!" *Proceeds to set off all stickybombs which blows up the entire enemy team*
Blew up the last guy who looked at you funny
Hell, even worse when they make a sexual remark to you scout probably did it
Likes to give you your space but when he's paranoid he follows you to wherever or watched you from a distance

Likes just having you in his presence, doesn't need to talk to be happy with you around
Very very against kidnapping like all other defense classes, wouldn't do it unless if he truly felt the need to, last resort kind of thing
The last guy who flirted with you had a sentry gun shoved up his ass
Doesn't really follow you anywhere
Tumblr media

Definitely got a tattoo of your face and name somewhere on his body, most likely his bicep
Your name is probably misspelled too but you never say anything about it because he can't read so it's fine
He hasn't really thought about kidnapping in all honesty, again, a last resort kinda thing if he can't get you to love him
He will make a damn SCENE if anyone flirts with you
"you think that's funny, chucklenuts? I eat guys like you for breakfast lunch AND dinner!" "I'll blow yer freakin head off if ya talk to y/n like that again!" Would definitely drag you away

If you ever live with him you'll find out that he owns like 20 racoons
"YOU ARE CUTER THAN A RACOON" "YOU WILL BE SAFE ON THE BATTLEFIELD, DO YOU HEAR ME MAGGOT?"
He loudly wakes everyone up in the morning but tries to avoid waking you up
Loves you as much as he loves America
Will show off on the battlefield for you
Isn't against kidnapping you, he probably did it early on if you showed immediately that you didn't reciprocate his feelings
Will blow any guy that hits on you to absolute bits
"MAGGOT DO YOU HEAR ME? YOU WILL LEAVE THE LADY/MAN ALONE THIS INSTANT!"
Probably put you on his back and rocket jumped just to show you what it felt like

Tumblr media
Bonus: Pauling
Pauling
This lady values her work over her life, but to her you're so much more important

Will take her only day off to spend time with you, what a sweetheart

When Mc gets sick
Lucifer:
will scold the hell out of you
"didn't I tell you to take care of yourself?"
you can have only a slight cold and he will insist on you staying in bed for the rest of the week
humans are weak and die easily, and you're apparently stupid on top of that for getting sick even after his warning
will constantly sigh, scold and act like it's a huge nuisance taking care of you
says he doesn't care
actually cares a lot
keeps his brothers away from you, so you have peace and silence to recover
if your condition worsens he will grow panicked, he doesn't want to lose you!
will take you to a human world doctor so you can get the right treatment
after your recovery, he will be so paranoid and overprotective for the first few weeks, will wrap you up in blankets, constantly makes sure you drink and eat enough, will put his coat over your shoulders if he even just gets the idea you might find it cold
Mammon:
"that's your own fault!"
someone like the great Mammon would never get sick
leaves the room only to come back half an hour later panting and packed with bags full of medicine and other stuff you might need
he didn't know what you need so he got one of all
there isn't the right thing among it? oh well no worries he'll get you whatever you say
after all he cares a lot for his human, even though he denies it
he will keep you company and try to distract you from your pain through telling you about his new money making schemes, or try to get you to laugh through telling you about stories where he failed and received Lucifers punishment
he doesn't like that you  have to go through this so he tries to help you however he can
if you'll ask for some quiet time, he will struggle, it's not like he doesn't want you to have some rest to recover, it's just he is so worried and confused, he feels more at ease when you talk to him or laugh about his stories, if you answer that is prove you're still alive and breathing
once you've recovered everything goes back to normal, Mammon will be confident in his ability to take care of you...for now that is, it's probably diffrent once you're actually sick again
Leviathan:
stupid normie! An otaku like him doesn't get sick, because he never leaves his room and avoids interactions with others
he, of course, secretly cares though
"Mc? I brought you these anime that we can watch together to pass the time"
"oh and in case you want to rather read something in silence, I brought you some manga recommendations, but please don't sneeze all over them..."
does the online RAD lessons with you as he stays at home almost everyday anyway, so he can show you how they work and help you
he will awkwardly sit next to you on the bed, trying to keep a small distance between the two of you A) because he is shy and nervous and B) because he can't get sick, he would miss all his in-game raids
will ask if you want to play games as well, but soon realizes that you two won't be making much progress with your current reaction time, so he chooses an easy and fun game for you
he wouldn't admit it but he might have set the game to the easiest settings and he himself plays slower for you
he is actually kind of disappointed when you recover so quick, he will miss you now that you visit RAD again instead of doing the online lessons with him, but he is glad you're feeling better again...maybe you could stay home more often with him though?
Satan:
he will buy and read every single human medicine book so he can find the best solution to your illness
will obviously read them in your room, because he can't leave you alone in this state
makes sure to keep you warm and makes you herbal tea depending on your symptoms
will skip school in favour for your well-being, especially keeps this behaviour up when Lucifer gets mad about it
will yell at everyone who dares to try and enter your room while your still sick, how dare they disturb your rest
will get embarassed about yelling and actually being the disturbance to you himself, will apologize and leave your room to keep reading somewhere else, still checks up on you occasionally and brings you light novels to read so you don't get bored
will come in stumbling into your room with the perfect medicine to cure you, only to find that you're already feeling better
gets embarassed yet again, but says it was worth reading all these books as he can now react faster the next time you get sick
will keep a check on your health and make sure you're always taking care of yourself
Asmodeus:
keep your snotty face away from him, but also come cuddle
he is very conflicted, because getting sick is not good for his skin, but he also wants to make you feel better with his hugs
will wear a mask so he doesn't get infected that easily
Asmo doesn't know much about medicine but he knows that certain herbs are good for your health, so he'll make you a nice herbal bath to boost your healing
also will take over your skin care routine and adjust it while your sick so your skin doesn't get worse, says he will only buy a refreshing face mask, comes back with more stuff though... I mean what did you expect from him?
will stay in bed with you and constantly cuddle so you don't feel lonely
he will most definetly whine if you ask him for some space or alone time, but does comply...fo at most half an hour, look this is hard on him too! His darling is sick and he can't do anything but be a moral support for you
if you thought he stops to cling to you once you've recovered, then you're mistaken, he will give you so many kisses and hugs having missed being able to do that
Beelzebub:
"Will food make you feel better?"
"You don't feel like eating?"
the poor boy is so confused, you're going to die if you don't eat! He will ask Satan what humans need when they're sick
will make yoou the perfect meal based on your symptoms, he'll even hold back on eating from it
he has a huge smile on his face while he watches you eat what he prepared, he is so proud that you like what he made you
eat as much as you can, Beel will eat everything you can't, all this boy wants for you to eat at least a bit so you have enough strength to recover
you get cold? cuddle time!
there is no way Beel will leave your side for as long as you're sick, he'll hold you close and share all his warmth and food with you
is so happy when you're better again. Will celebrate it with inviting you to a restaurant
Belphegor:
being sick is like being sleepy right?
he will just go back to sleep next to you as if nothing happend
wakes up because of your coughs and pretends to be annoyed, but is actually worried
will leave the comfort of the bed to get you some medicine, before wrapping you up into a blanket burrito and cuddling into you
don't expect to be getting up any time soon, he wants to sleep...you better not have to go to the bathroom
sleeping is best medicine but Belphie takes this a bit to literally, you two will almost only sleep
once you're better he will still want to sleep using you as a pillow, good luck getting out of that situation
Diavolo:
"Are you dying Mc?"
"Barbatos turn back the time before Mc got sick! -Wait you're going to be okay?"
Don't scare him like that! He is always ready to save you from death!
He will let you live at the castle for the time being and appoints the best doctor to take care of you, because he still isn't completly convinced you're going to make it
Does his work in your room, so he can keep a check on you
will not do much work much to Barbatos dismay, Dia is just so worried about you and will constantly ask if you need anything
his breaks consist of hugging you gently and drinking some tea with you
he will literally cry and almost crush you in his hug, when you're finally healthy again. This man was so anxious about losing you, even thugh he could've commanded Barb to just turn back time
Barbatos:
*smiles*
he knew you were going to get sick, so he's prepared
knocks on your door in the house of lamentation, before you're even able to tell anyone that you're sick
made himself a very strict schedule for everything so he can help you and still attend to his duties as a butler
gives the brothers various tasks so they can indivdually take care of you in the time he isn't able to be there for you
he will get back to you in the evening after having finished all his work for the day
will make you a light dinner and sit next to your bed
stays with you until you fall asleep stroking you hair and holding one of your hands, when you wake up the next morning Barb await you with a small breakfast, if he stayed over night or left and came back in the morning will stay a secret of his
is relieved and at the same time sad when you've recovered, will miss coming over and seeing you, maybe you can return the favor and visit him at the castle sometimes...
Solomon:
is a human so he knows what to do...
but magic is quicker!
he tries to heal you with a spell, but he just end up making it worse
"Oh no Mc I'm so sorry! Let me make it up by taking care of you!"
undefined matter soup a la Solomon, "eat this", he said, "You'll feel better", he said ...you don't feel better...
the brothers will get so angry and throw him out of the house, he is only allowed to come back once you've recovered, actually scratch that he's not setting foot anywhere near you again if it were for the demons
but Solomon finds his way into your room through your window...will stay over the night, cuddling you and constantly apologizing
will laugh about the whole ordeal once you've recovered
Simeon:
he is so calm, like yeah? Humans get sick, but they recover soon if taking care of correctly
Simeon is just the best!
he knows the right food to make for you, will give you the best medicine and make sure you're taking it at the right time
will make sure you're always comfortable
bored?  "let me get you a book!"
tired?  "let me fluff your pillow so you can sleep better!"
he will sit next to you the whole time looking so calm and confident
he will pray for you to get better quick so you don't have to suffer too long
promises you to take care of you again if you get sick in the future, this man just wants to be there for you
Luke:
"Are you dying Mc?" Version 2.0
no seriously are you? Will you become an  angel? We can live together in the celestial realm and bake desserts for Micheal!
Mc why are you so angry? No you misunderstood I don't actually want you to die!
Is so sorry he couldn't protect you from getting sick, he will feel so helpless
Simeon and you will cheer him up and tell him there wasn't anything he could have done to prevent it
Luke will bake you light desserts so you can eat some sweets while recovering
will visit you daily with Simeon after school and tell you about the day
crushes you in a big hug once you're healthy again

haunted.
| bucky x reader | fluff |
Bucky is new to town and feeling lonely when the townies are unfriendly. Until you show up at his door. soft, sweet bucky fluff to make you feel good! 🥺 🥰
cw: vague mentions of murder. because there’s a haunted house. but it’s not scary!
a/n: I love “we have always lived in the castle” and this is loosely inspired by that film
Tumblr media
Bucky felt like everyone stared at him. He didn’t anticipate moving to the small town and being the object of attention for it. He definitely didn’t expect some people to be overtly rude to him, or stare at him like he was a creature when he walked by.
He could’ve sworn he heard the word “haunted” whispered by a group of people when he was buying paint at the small hardware store in town. Bucky turned to stare back, but they quickly hurried away under his confused silver gaze.
His opportunities to make friends seemed grim, and he found himself spending most of his time renovating the old fixer-upper he bought. He was beginning to wonder if moving here, away from his home was a good decision. It was lonely, and he felt like he’d made a mistake.
About a week after he moved in, the weather was particularly nice, and he decided to start tackling the garden while the weather permitted. He was working outside when he saw you.
“Hello!” You called, walking up to the gate of the fence he was painting.
“Hi,” Bucky grinned, setting down his paintbrush and greeting you.
“I’m Y/N. I live next door, I’m sorry I haven’t been over to introduce myself yet.”
“I’m James Buchanan Barnes, but everyone just calls me Bucky. You’re actually the first person to properly speak to me. People in town... don’t seem fond of my arrival.” He struggled with the right way to phrase it, but you just smiled, shaking your head.
“It’s because of the house.” You explained.
“The house?” Bucky turned to the beautiful old victorian house he had moved into.
“Yeah. People in town are convinced it’s haunted. There was a murder here, a decade or so ago. The murderer is in jail now, and the house is completely fine, and safe. But the old people here are paranoid and superstitious. I’m sorry they’ve been unfriendly. They all claim it’s haunted,” you frowned, feeling sympathetic toward your new neighbor.
He was sweet and friendly, and also incredibly handsome. You had come over to invite him for dinner, but had gotten distracted by his confusion about the unwelcoming town. Then, you found yourself staring at him. He wore a bright yellow shirt, standing out against the lush green of the garden.
“It’s alright. I suppose I’ll have to prove I’m not a ghost,” he laughed.
“I believe you. You are too kind to be a ghost. I came over actually to invite you for dinner. I thought you might be lonely.”
His bright smile made warmth spread in your chest, and butterflies flutter in your tummy.
“I’d love to, Y/N.”
He watched you blush, giggling with excitement. You rattled off a time before running off, the breeze ruffling your hair and skirt as you crossed the yard back to your house. You waved at him and he smiled, waving back.
Bucky looked forward to spending time with you later. The sound of your laugh and the sweetness of your smile echoed in his mind as he continued with the fence.
He cleaned up as the sun started to set, and he gathered daisies from the garden, wanting to make a good impression on you, and thank you for your hospitality.
Bucky knocked on your door, and you swung it open with a smile. The scent of coffee and the food you were cooking filled his sense.
“I brought these for you!” Bucky held up the flowers. You bit your lip with a blush, taking them from his hands.
“Thank you, come in.”
You stepped aside, letting him into your bright kitchen, putting the flowers into a jar on the table.
“Have a seat. Can I get you some coffee or tea while I finish?”
“Coffee, please. I can help you,” Bucky offered, and you shook your head.
“I’ve got it. I’m almost done,” you said as you poured him a cup of coffee.
“What brings you here, Bucky?”
“I was just looking to get out of New York City, to something more quiet. I wanted to renovate a house, too. This seemed perfect.”
“I’m glad. It’ll be good to see the house alive again. You’re not so bad either,” you teased lightly, making him grin.
You set down dishes of food before taking a seat beside him, chattering long into the evening. You learned that he was from Brooklyn, and that he loved New York style pizza. He was also fond of classic novels and big band music, and loved the color yellow.
You took coffee to your back porch swing, sitting with him and gently rocking in the dusk, continuing your conversation until the stars were glittering in the sky.
The doorbells chimed in the shop you worked at. You stepped out from the back, smiling at Bucky.
“Hi!” You grinned, happy to see him.
“Y/N. I didn’t know you worked here.”
“What can I get for you?”
“Knobs for a dresser. There was one in the house, I’m refurbishing it.”
“Certainly. What color have you painted it?”
“Just white, I didn’t know what else to do. It needs something.”
“If... If you wanted, I could give it some detailing. I paint.” You offered shyly.
“I’d love that.”
“They’re on the house.” You smiled, handing him the knobs he asked for.
You were kneeling in the sunroom of Bucky’s home. A record was softly spinning in the corner, and a gentle breeze blew through the open windows. Bucky brought a cup of tea to you, setting it down beside you.
“Thanks,” you smiled, reaching up and gently squeezing his hand before going back to painting delicate flowers on the dresser. He hummed along to the old song scratching on the record, and you smiled as he sipped on his tea, taking a break from painting the walls of the sunroom a pale sage green.
Your hand stilled as you watched him. You stared at Bucky, he was too perfect for you not to.
Despite the rumors of the house being haunted, and a curse placed over those who resided there, you found yourself at peace with Bucky in his home. It was bright and inviting, just like him.
Every hour spent with him had you falling more hopelessly in love with him.
You kept Bucky awake at night. He would stare up at the ceiling, thoughts of you filling his mind and his heart. You were so tender and warm, your presence alone was a comfort to him. You made him laugh, and you made joy flood his life.
Bucky was catastrophically in love with you.
“I’ve brought you a book. It’s my favorite, and I didn’t see it in your library,” you said, walking into his home that you’d been spending weeks helping him paint and redecorate.
He walked around the corner of the hall, taking the well-loved copy from your hand. A soft smile crossed his face when he saw your little notes in the margins of passages you loved.
He wrapped his arms around your waist, and yours found their way around his neck. You breathed him in, feeling safe and warm in his hug. You were sad when the long hug finally broke, Bucky looking up at the clock on the wall.
“Can you stay for tea?” Bucky asked, fiddling with the hem of his yellow shirt you loved.
“Of course.”
The two of you curled up on the porch swing with your tea, enjoying the warm weather.
“I was thinking about planting pumpkins in the garden for autumn.”
“You should. I have a pumpkin soup recipe, I can teach you,” you suggested, and he smiled softly.
“I’d love that.”
You leaned your head against his shoulder, settling as his arm wrapped around your body. You watched the housecat run across the grass before hopping on the porch below you. His hand gently rubbed small circles where it rested on your leg, and the two of you rocked gently.
Music played faintly from inside as always. Bucky always had a record spinning or a playlist drifting out through hidden speakers. You found the habit endearing, like most little things about him.
He had what seemed to be hundreds of tea bags, always having tea and offering it to you. You noticed that teas you mentioned you enjoyed started showing up in his collection for you when you were over. Books were stacked on nearly every surface, and filled shelves throughout the house.
You giggled, getting some flour on Bucky’s nose while the two of you were baking cookies in his kitchen. You gasped and squealed when he knocked flour all over your shirt, covering you in the white powder.
“Bucky!” You giggled at the mess.
“It wasn’t me, it was the ghost,” he teased with an adorable grin. You shook your head at him and he got one of his clean t-shirts for you to change into, tossing your ruined one in with his laundry.
The fabric of his was soft and smelled like him. You hugged it to your body, smiling as your heart raced. You went back downstairs to finish baking, Bucky promising you he was going to behave.
“Taste this, tell me if it’s good,” he laughed, holding out a spoon of the melted chocolate to you. You opened your mouth so he could feed it to you, and chocolate smeared over your lips as he pulled the spoon out.
You nodded in delight, and an amused smile crossed his face.
“You’ve got a little on your face, doll,” he laughed and you blushed.
Your breath caught as he leaned forward and kissed you, tasting the chocolate on your lips. You smiled into the kiss, wrapping your arms around his neck, your heart bursting.
“Was that the ghost too?” you giggled shyly.
“No, that was all me,” Bucky promised before kissing you again.
