Pairing: Steve Rogers x fem!reader
Fluff
Summary: Steve realised just how glad he is to have you.
Warnings: mentions of fights, Natasha’s and Tony’s dead; reader being pregnant; the blip; Thor being a maid of honour because I believe it’s what we deserve; let me know if there are more

Steve had been in many fight before. In fact, his eyes hole life was one. Growing up in the ‘greatest generation’ as a lanky boy with no muscles and having no talent in talking to girls was bad enough. From then losing family members after family members, trying to join the army to help, many fights in alleys that he never won was a fight in itself. After getting the serum and then going into the ice for seventy years, waking up in a whole other century woth no one he knew was hard as well. And them came Peggy, who he found out was alive and Bucky, who was a brainwashed assassin with almost no memory of him was a fight. But it was nothing compared to the fight he had with himself when he lost in 2018 and you were turned into dust. His sweet angel, someone he considered his saviour.
Steve met you after the whole taking down SHIELD fiasco. He went under a bit, losing himself in Boston, a city he never thought he would visit. He loved going on walks there, no specific place to reach, just walking. But then Steve saw you. You were sitting on a bench, book in hand - The Great Gatsby - and a dog lying next to you with its snout on your lap. You looked flawless, in his opinion. In a pretty skirt and lose shirt. Steve thought that there was no one more beautiful than you in that very moment. Like all angels above have blessed you everything good with a little heart in the corner.
The way you began to talk wasn’t in any of your minds anymore. Who made the first move, the first kiss, it didn’t matter to you because you were together. Until the blip.
It was Steve’s first search after he realised it wasn’t just the Avengers but everyone else, too. Natasha, ever the good friend, helped him. They both searched for you, the angel that made every Avenger melt on the spot. When they realised you were blipped, together they searched for Yelena Belova, Natasha just told him she was important and to keep himself occupied, and because he was Natasha’s friend, he helped her, though both searches came out empty-handed.
After the final fight - defeating Thanos, losing Natasha and Tony - you found him. It was three hours after the final battle, or was it four? You didn’t know, no one did. But you were at the Avengers compound, running up to Steve and throwing yoursef at him. Steve caught you, he always did, always will, and led you to his room. It was just you two there and for the first time in five years, Steve felt a kind of happiness. He felt whole being with you. Like everything made sense again and he knew that if Natasha was be here she’d make a stupid comment about how ‘whipped’ he was and Tony would sarcastically fake gag at the sight of you two. But you didn’t care and neither did Steve.
After Tony’s futural, bringing back the stones to their timeline and coming back completely fine amd making a respectful grave for Natasha, Steve and you decided it was time for some time away. Packing your things and saying bye to your loved ones for an unknown time, you two made your way to the beautiful coast of Italy. Relaxing in the sun, on the beach with a cute smile on both your faces while building sandcastles and making fun of each other.
Steve looked at you, a small smile playing on his face while you layed in the sun, sunglasses away and eyes closed because ‘I’m sunbathing, Steve, I don’t want a mark of my sunglasses on my face, I’ll look like an idiot’. The straps of your bright pink bikini were pullin inside so you don’t get any white stripes there, too. God, he thought, you were easily the most stunning persom he’s ever seen. All natural but still so beautiful. He began to daydream about a future, one with you and maybe one or two, or maybe even more, tiny you’s and Steve’s running around your small house. It would have a garden, as you constantly reminded him of the little flowerbeds you wanted to have. Maybe even a second dog? He found real deep comfort in that fantasy.
He said your name and you opened your pretty eyes, looking up at him with a smile on your face, “What’s up Steve? Are you okay?” Leave it to you to always worry about him. “Yeag, it’s just- I’m happy, you know?” You smiled, still a bit confused. “I just- I love you. So much. Wanted you to know that.” You chuckled, there was always a slight Brooklyn drawl to his words when he was nervous so you didn’t know what to expect. “I love you, Steve.” Steve smiled and began to chuckle lightly,” “That’s- That’s great you know, becaue, uhm, I wanted to ask you something.”, he began, “What- what if you move in? With me, I mean. We could get a new house or maybe a flat. It doesn’t have to be directly, but you know, one time, maybe?” The smile on your face was bright, like he had just hung the moon and the stars for you. “Yeah, I’d like that, Steve.” Steve smiled brightly, “Great. Great, great great.” You giggled at him and kissed him, a kiss he gladly reciprocate.
It was a few months later now. After coming back from Italy with Sam throwing a dumb jab at you about ‘stealing his look’ you told them about the news, only receiving good response. The house you now had was in Boston, you grew up there and had family and Steve wanted to be away from all the superhero stuff. The house had three floors; the lowest with the kitchen, living room, a room for laundry and a little bathroom; the second floor with three bedrooms and a guest-bedroom, the one mostly occupied by Bucky or Sam and two other bathrooms, a bit bigger than the one on the first floor; and the final floor with a master bedroom, occupied by Steve and yourself and a master bathroom, including shower and bathtub, perfect to relax in. It was safe to say that you and Steve loved the house. You bought the house as soon as you two saw it and the money fit as well. It was perfect.
Now back on the same beach as months before you both sat there, anticipating to tell the other one the news. While Steve chose the place again, this time with a focus on asking you the question he wanted to ask you the first time you were there, you were there to tell him the news you hoped he liked.
“Steve?” You asked him and he looked at you, a slight deja vu, “I got something to tell you.” You knew his reaction wouldn’t be bad, you talked about it before and both agreed that you want it, you just didn’t talk about when. “I’m- I’m pregnant.” You bit your lip to wait for his reaction while he looked at you, a bit fonfused but then started to laugh, “You know, I already had the idea.”, he began, “You didn’t drink that wine you liked ao much.” You chuckled as well and in that moment everything felt right.
“You know, my plan with this trip was to have the biggest surprise but as always you have to top me,” he chuckled while rummaging in one of his bags he brought with him and took out a tiny box and opened it, “I may not be on my knees right now, but this should still count. You’re the most phenomenal person I’ve ever met. And I wanted to ask you this last time but I guess it was too early? You know, I- I had this big speech written down and I completely forgot everything on it so please don’t be mad at me,” both of you were crying with big smiles on you faces by now and he said your name, “marry me, I promise I’ll try the best to make you the happiest person on this planet and every other one. And I promise that, yes , you can have Thor as your maid of honour if you want to.” You chuckled before screaming out a big yes. The people around you all laughing and clapping. You hugged Steve while he slid the ring on your finger.
Now, six months later on the same beach surrounded with your best friends, you and Steve gave you the ‘I do’s’. Thor, your maid of honour as promised, a seat free on your bridesmaid place for Natasha and Wanda as your second bridesmaid, you were the happiest you could be with a big belly. Steve’s side looked smiliar, Bucky as hid best man, a seat free for Tony and Sam as his other groomsman, Steve couldn’t get the smile off his face. Even Nick Fury, who was the ‘priest’ to marry you, was smiling a bit.

Endgame (Chapter Nine-Part I)
Tumblr media
Summary: The Avengers face off against a past iteration of Thanos and his army for the fate of the entire universe.
Pairing: Steve Rogers X Reader
Word Count: 3.7k
Warnings/Disclaimers: Disclaimer for battle/combat violence
A/N: And here we’ve finally reached the Battle of Earth! Thank you for reading, I hope you all enjoy!
Chapter Nine (Part I) (Previous Chapter)
In her eighth grade English class, (Y/N) was assigned to write a report on A Sound of Thunder, a science-fiction short story written by Ray Bradbury that revolved around the dangers of traveling through time and humanity’s arrogance for thinking it could control its overwhelming power. Bradbury’s famed short story struck fourteen-year old (Y/N) with two thoughts after finishing it: that she was definitely sticking to writing historical-fiction novels when she grew up, and that she would never dabble in time travel if the opportunity ever arose in her lifetime. She was reminded of her naïve teenage promise as she rocked Carina in her arms and listened to Stephen’s brief but concise run-down of the situation they now found themselves in.
Back on Titan in 2018, the doctor utilized the Time Stone to foresee all the futures in which they’d win against the Mad Titan but he was only able to find one, one where half the universe would stay Vanished for five years until Scott Lang emerged from the Quantum Realm and inspired their time heist. Stephen foresaw everything, from Thanos’ death at the hands of Thor to the switch that 2014 Nebula made with her future counterpart on her adoptive father’s orders, and (Y/N)’s heart sank into her stomach when he told them how 2014 Nebula hijacked their Quantum Tunnel and brought Thanos and his entire army to their own timeline while the Avengers were preoccupied with the Infinity Stones. We were all so shocked by Natasha’s death that we didn’t even realize it wasn’t our Nebula, she silently lamented, anxiously biting her lip as the doctor explained how Thanos’ ship launched a surprise blitz on the entire Avengers Facility just after Bruce snapped his fingers and how he was currently preparing to deploy his entire army.
“The gauntlet containing all six Infinity Stones is still buried beneath the wreckage of the compound, but Thanos will send his forces after it while he battles the Avengers,” Stephen called out over his shoulder, his attention split between filling them in and summoning more portals to gather warriors from all five Wakandan tribes.
“Then we don’t have a moment to waste.” T’Challa turned to Okoye with a resolute expression on his face. “General, gather your Doras and begin readying the tribal warriors for our imminent attack; I shall join you in a moment to assist.” The general bowed her head in respect before hurrying to follow her king’s orders, and T’Challa turned his attention to Shuri. “Shuri, ready our pilots and see to it that every available aircraft is armed and operational…and, you might want to change your clothing, little sister. You can’t fight a battle dressed as though you’re visiting an American shopping mall.” Shuri ignored her older brother’s light teasing and fist-bumped the air in delight as she sprinted through the original portal leading into the palace, and T’Challa’s small grin faltered when he met Ramonda’s eyes. “Mother, I-”
The Queen Mother held up a placating hand and smiled. “We’ll have plenty of time to talk later, sithandwa sam. You are both the King of Wakanda and the Black Panther, T’Challa, and now is the time to show Thanos why that is.”
Nodding once, T’Challa gave his mother a brief hug and sprinted off to the field beyond the forest, and Stephen cleared his throat to get their attention. “I have to portal back to Titan; wait for my signal to know when it’s time to attack.”
“Wait, what signal?” (Y/N) exchanged an exasperated look with Sam when Stephen vanished through another sparking orange portal without answering. “Every single time I’ve encountered that doctor, he’s pissed me off one way or another.” Carina blew a loud raspberry and (Y/N) winced a little. “Sorry, Cari, but swearing’s a hard habit to kick.” She glanced up at Ramonda. “Your highness, do you mind-?”
“I’ll protect her, (Y/N), as if she were my own child.” The Queen Mother placed a hand on her shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze. “Bast ukukhusela wena. May Bast protect you, and may she guide you to victory on the battlefield.”
(Y/N) smiled in gratitude at Ramonda and glanced back down at Carina; out of the corner of her eye, she saw the older woman gesture for the others to give them a moment alone but her daughter’s soft cooing regained her attention. “I know that’s only been about an hour since you last saw your daddy and I, but for us it’s felt like an entire lifetime. And I know that you’re probably getting pretty tired of your parents leaving you to go and fight against gods and un-dead warriors and genetically-enhanced aliens, but it’s something we’ve got to do. You’re going to grow up in a better, safer world, lemon drop, and we’ll both be right there with you. But first, Mommy needs to go and help Daddy save the world again.” She pressed a soft kiss onto her daughter’s forehead and smiled. “Love you, Cari, more than anything.”
Placing the infant back into the floating pram, (Y/N) handed Ramonda the uru bracelet and her overnight bag, pausing only to retrieve the weapons she’d packed away, and she watched as the Queen Mother escorted her daughter through the swirling orange portal they’d entered through and disappeared from view. She took a deep breath before turning around to face the others, who were all preoccupied with looking over their weapons for the impending battle except Groot; the tree-like creature was anxiously twiddling his branched fingers and when he realized that she was staring, he perked up and moved closer to her. “I am Groot?” (Y/N) frowned in confusion and Groot lowered his hand to gesture for something knee-height. “I am Groot.”
“Oh, are you asking about Rocket?” She grinned triumphantly when Groot’s eyes lit up and he clapped his hands together in excitement. “Rocket’s fine; he’s back in New York with my husband and friends, and we’ll be seeing him pretty soon. He’s missed you a lot, so he’ll be very happy to see you again.”
Groot nodded. “I am Groot.”
“Talking to trees now, Booksmart?” Sam chuckled as he walked up to her and good-humoredly bumped her shoulder with his. “Is there anything you can’t do?”
“Besides understanding what trees say back to me? Well, I spent five years trying my damnedest to find a best friend as wonderful as you, and I failed spectacularly because…well, there’s only one Sam Wilson, after all.”
Sam’s smirk of amusement softened into a tender smile and his arm moved to wrap around her shoulders in a partial hug, squeezing her tight and providing her a sense of reassurance she hadn’t quite felt since the day she’d lost him. Before either of them could speak, a familiar voice called out through their comm links. “All right, it’s almost show-time. How’s everything looking on your end?”
“Um, i-it’s looking good, Doc.” A bewildered Sam exchanged a look with them. “How exactly are you doing…whatever this is?”
“…How do you think, Mr. Wilson?”
“Magic,” (Y/N), Bucky and Wanda replied at the same time, and Sam rolled his eyes at them.
“I cast a communication spell on everyone’s – and I do mean everyone’s – comm links; they’re fully synchronized now and trust me, you’re gonna be grateful that they are in a few seconds.”
Wanda hummed thoughtfully at the doctor’s words. “Ominous sort of man, this Doctor Strange.” Her eyes began to glow as she summoned her scarlet-hued energy into the palms of her hands. “Now, isn’t it about time we pay Thanos and his army a little visit?”
“I was just thinking the same thing, Miss Maximoff. Oh, and just for the record, this is the signal.”
Muttering under his breath about Stephen Strange being a smart-ass, Sam took a deep breath and brought a hand up to his comm link. “Hey, Cap, you read me?” There was no reply and in her mind, (Y/N) prayed that it was only stunned silence and nothing more concerning. “Cap, it’s Sam. Can you hear me?” Past the trees and across the field where Wakanda’s forces had amassed, a new portal started forming into existence as Sam smiled to himself and added, “On your left.”
The portal expanded and (Y/N) watched T’Challa, Shuri and Okoye stride through to the other side; she reached behind her and unsheathed both of Natasha’s electrified batons from her uniform’s shoulder harness and twirled them around her hands once before tightening her hold on them. “After you, Birdbrain.”
“See you on the other side, Booksmart.” With a playful wink, Sam deployed his wings and sped off into the sky where he flew straight through the sparking portal.
More and more portals began to open as dozens of Wakandan Talon Fighters and Dragon Flyers took to the skies and another small portal burst into existence, this time directly in front of the foursome. Wanda wasted no time, her expression darkening with unreserved fury while she used her scarlet-hued powers to launch herself into the air fly through the portal; (Y/N), Bucky and Groot exchanged a silent look before following after her and as they took their first step onto the grounds of the Avengers Facility, she bit her lip to stifle her horrified gasp. The entire compound was gone, reduced to towering piles of ash, rubble and enormous pieces of debris; the sky above was darkened by thick black smoke and they stood in the center of a sizable crater, no doubt the result of Thanos’ surprise blitz attack on the Avengers Facility.
Thanos and his entire army stood at the opposite side of the crater. The Black Order, comprised of his so-called children, flanked either side of him and stretched out behind them were thousands of Chitauri troops, Sakaarian soldiers and snarling Outriders; the Sanctuary II hovered in the skies high above them, along with a dozen massive Leviathans and manned cruisers, while armed hover tanks and cybernetically-enhanced Chitauri Gorillas were scattered amongst their ground forces. It was an impressive army – infinitely larger than the ones present for the Battle of New York and the Battle of Wakanda combined – but all around (Y/N), a far more extraordinary assemblage was taking place.
Dozens of swirling orange portals were littered across their side of the crater and legions of heroes from across the galaxy poured out, ready to band together and face the greatest threat to their universe. Doctor Strange emerged from the nearest portal with Peter Parker and a trio who, judging by Groot’s enthusiastic reaction, were the Guardians of the Galaxy; T’Challa, Shuri and Okoye led the united army of Wakanda while M’Baku rallied his own Jabari warriors, their resounding chants of ‘Yibambe!’ echoing across the entire battlefield; Brunnhilde, dressed in her impressive Valkyrie armor and sitting astride a snow-white winged stallion, led her battalion of Asgardian Einherjar alongside Korg and Miek; Wong stood before a throng of sorcerers from Kamar-Taj, some brandishing bow-staffs and other weapons while others conjured orange magical shields; nearby, Hope Van Dyne seemed to appear from thin air and her eyes frantically searched their growing army for any sign of Scott; a sizable band of humans and aliens brandishing blasters emerged from another portal, and the flame-shaped patch on their jackets told (Y/N) that they were the faction of Ravagers allied to the Guardians; a figure donned in a silver-and-blue Iron Man suit landed hard on the jagged rock and raised their face-plate to reveal Pepper; a stunned Tony and a bloodied Thor, both dressed for battle in their respective armor, staggered to their feet and joined their ranks; a deafening rumble was followed by a super-sized Scott bursting out from beneath the smoldering ruins of the Avengers Facility, and the Giant-Man opened his fist to allow Bruce, Rhodes and Rocket to jump down. A rallying cry resounded throughout their troops and high above them all, Wakandan Talon Fighters and Dragon Flyers and Ravager spacecrafts hovered in midair as their pilots awaited their commands.
Finally tearing her eyes away from the inspiring assembly, (Y/N) looked out at the vast space between both armies to see Steve. The super-soldier stood alone, his Captain America uniform stained with blood and ash and his vibranium shield broken but still strapped to his arm, and the sight of her sweaty and blood-soaked husband brought tears to her eyes; Steve, understanding the overwhelming odds stacked against him, had selflessly and defiantly prepared to stand against Thanos and his entire army alone, knowingly sacrificing himself to try and keep the Mad Titan away from the Infinity Stones as long as he possibly could. When Steve’s reddened gaze finally found hers amongst the growing army, (Y/N) recognized the same fire in his eyes that she’d seen in his old photograph at the Smithsonian so long ago, and it was in that moment that she could feel herself falling in love with the super-soldier all over again.
In three long strides, Steve was standing before her, his ash-coated face was filled with apprehension and a hint of longing as his azure eyes searched hers. “Is Carina okay? Is she safe?”
“Carina’s fine, sweetheart, and she’s perfectly safe with Queen Ramonda,” (Y/N) quickly reassured him and smiled as he breathed a sigh of relief. “Now, let’s go get this son of a bitch and save the world again so we can finally be a family.”
The corner of Steve’s lips slowly curved up into a small smile. “Yes, ma’am.” They both turned to face Thanos and his imposing army, standing side-by-side as their friends, teammates and allies all lined up on either side of them and readied their weapons for battle. (Y/N)’s grip on the electrified batons tightened in anticipation and she spared a brief glance down at the red hourglass-shaped buckle fastened onto her belt; the sight of Natasha’s signature accessory calmed her nerves and imbued her with the strength she needed to stare head-on at the deadly horde across the crater. “Avengers!” Steve thrust his arm out and (Y/N)’s eyes widened in awe when Mjolnir flew straight into his open hand, and she made a mental note to ask him about the magical Asgardian weapon later as he commanded through gritted teeth, “Assemble.”
Thor’s bellowing battle cry was echoed by their vast army and they all charged forward as one, Steve leading the ground forces while Tony took to the sky and led their legion of flyers. Thanos leveled his double-edged sword in their direction and watched with cold indifference as his army charged past him, looking almost bored at the striking show of defiance before him, but his mild reaction only spurred them on. Both armies met at the center of the wide crater and clashed with a cacophony of sounds and with that, the Battle of Earth began.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks to Doctor Strange, Wong and the fifteen minutes they’d spent frantically gathering forces from across the entire galaxy, Thanos’ army was fairly evenly matched by theirs; however, it quickly became apparent to both armies which one of them was the most impassioned. The Avengers, Wakandans, Asgardians, Guardians, Ravagers and the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj all fought with a fiery passion that was wholly unmatched by the determination of the Black Order and the forces they commanded. A super-sized Scott punched a Leviathan to the ground and swatted aside a Chitauri cruiser while Peter swung from his arm and webbed the gun of a hover tank. The trio of T’Challa, Shuri and Okoye fought a troop of Outriders and nearby, Brunnhilde flew down on her winged horse and slashed at a roaring Chitauri Gorilla while M’Baku impaled it with his spear. Bruce, who’s right arm was badly burned from the newly-created Infinity Gauntlet and hanging limp at his side, snatched an attacking cruiser out of the sky and threw its commander across the battlefield, and both Korg and one of the more enthusiastic Guardians took on Cull Obsidian together. Overhead, Tony and Pepper fired their repulsors at Sakaarian ships and directly below the husband and wife, (Y/N) and Steve fought alongside one another; it was a deadly dance – with (Y/N) jamming her electrified batons into attackers and kicking them away and Steve slamming Mjolnir into his opponents and summoning bolts of vivid-blue lightening from the sky – but it was one that the husband and wife performed seamlessly together.
“You know, your new look is really kind of doing it for me!” (Y/N) spared Steve an appreciative glance as she blocked a Chitauri soldier’s strike and finished it off by ramming a baton into its neck.
Steve chuckled, throwing the hammer at another Chitauri soldier and upper-cutting a Sakaarian with his broken shield. “Not too shabby for a kid from Brooklyn, huh?” He thrust his open hand out and his helmeted head cocked to the side in confusion when Stormbreaker flew into his hand instead.
“No, no, give me that!” Thor called out from across the small clearing and they both looked over to see the Asgardian waving Mjolnir above his head. “You get the little one!”
Both men exchanged weapons and as Thor flew off towards the nearest hover tank, (Y/N) flexed her extended wrist and watched a charging Outrider drop to the ground, entirely encased in red electricity emanating from the Widow Bite fused to its neck. “Hey, (Y/L/N), how much for the fancy bracelets?”
(Y/N) rolled her eyes and continued to fight without glancing over at the nearby raccoon. “They’re not for sale, Rocket.”
“What about the batons?”
Kneeling atop a sizable chunk of concrete, Bucky fired his gun and managed to spare (Y/N) a brief smile in between shots. “You’ve got some weird friends, doll.”
“Not exactly the adjective I’d use, Mr. Stares-A-Lot,” Sam interjected as he flew overhead. “I was thinking something like handsome, funny, or devilishly charming. Or hell, why not all three?”
“…Yeah, I stand by my original statement, Pigeon-Wings.”
Steve shook his head in mild exasperation and summoned a bolt of lightning to destroy a diving cruiser. “Your best friend and my best friend really need to learn how to get along.”
The two of them continued to fight alongside one another, careful not to accidentally become separated as they battled Sakaarian troops, Chitauri soldiers and snarling Outriders. (Y/N) was busy firing a deadly Widow Bite at a charging Outrider and Steve was disarming a Chitauri soldier when Clint’s panicked voice rang through their comm links. “Cap! What do you want me to do with this damn thing?”
(Y/N) kicked a defeated Sakaarian away and frantically scanned the chaotic battlefield around her, eyes widening when she finally spotted the archer sprinting through the pandemonium with the Infinity Gauntlet clutched tight in his arm. “Oh shit.”
“Get those stones as far away as possible!” Steve shouted into his comm, holding an Outrider at bay with his broken shield and summoning Mjolnir to finish it off before tossing its carcass aside.
“No!” Bruce batted the Outrider’s corpse away with his good arm and vehemently shook his head. “We need to get them back where they came from!”
Tony’s voice suddenly crackled through their comms as he blew up a hover tank nearby. “No way to get them back; Thanos destroyed the Quantum Tunnel.”
“Hold on!” In the distance, Scott shrank down and vanished from view before continuing. “That wasn’t our only time machine.”
The familiar notes of ‘La Cucaracha’ suddenly played throughout the battlefield and after exchanging matching looks of surprise, (Y/N) and Steve scaled a mound of debris to look out at the sprawling, wreckage-filled crater spread out before them. “Anyone see an ugly brown van out there?”
“Yes!” Brunnhilde’s voice replied through their comms. “But you’re not gonna like where it’s parked!”
Steve cursed under his breath and pointed with Mjolnir towards the far end of the crater; Scott’s van and their original Quantum Tunnel was located well behind enemy lines, completely surrounded by transport ships and hordes of Outriders, and the darkened sky above was populated by Chitauri-manned cruisers and Sakaarian gunships. (Y/N) frowned and her brow knit in worry as she considered their new mission; keeping the stones away from Thanos long enough for Scott to prepare the Quantum Tunnel and return them to their original timelines wouldn’t be easy, even with their impassioned forces to assist them, but certainly not impossible. All we have to do is hold onto our hope, (Y/N) thought with silent determination as she recalled the advice Natasha had given her in her final message.
“Scott, how long you need to get that thing working?”
“Um, maybe ten minutes.”
Steve’s jaw tightened with anticipation as he ordered, “Get it started, we’ll get the stones to you.”
“We’re on it, Cap.”
Recognizing Hope Van Dyne’s voice from S.H.I.E.L.D.’s old video logs from Pym Technologies, (Y/N) smiled thinly and secured her batons together before bringing a hand up to her comm link. “Good luck, you guys.”
Steve moved to stand in front of her, his expression filled with firm resolve as he leaned down to meet her gaze. “Clint’s never gonna get that gauntlet to the Quantum Tunnel by himself, and Scott and Hope can’t prep the van and clear the area at the same time.”
“Then I’ll go help Clint while you work on clearing the area.” Although wary of splitting up, (Y/N) knew that between the two of them, Steve was better equipped to take on the swarm surrounding the broken-down van while she could be of more use getting the gauntlet to Scott and Hope. Judging by the look in his azure eyes, Steve knew it too and after a wordless nod, he ducked down and captured her lips in a brief but bruising kiss that she was quick to return. “Stay safe, sweetheart,” (Y/N) breathlessly pleaded when they separated. “Whatever it takes.”
“You too, sunshine. Whatever it takes.” Her husband pressed another firm kiss onto her lips and took a reassuring breath before turning and sprinting off into the fray.
Taking a reassuring breath of her own, (Y/N) wrenched her connected batons apart and took off in the direction she’d last seen the archer, doing her best to ignore the foreboding feeling slowly taking shape in the pit of her stomach as she ran.
Infinity War I 🔥 | Dark Phoenix Series P.1
takes place during A:IW
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Series Masterlist | Marvel Masterlist
Characters & Pairings: Dr. Evelyn Alice Stark (OC)/Host of the Phoenix Force, Wanda Maximoff/The Scarlet Witch (platonic), Steve Rogers/ Captain America (platonic) Doctor Stephen Strange (implied romance), Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (implied romance), Tony Stark (platonic/Newphew), Howard Stark (Platonic/brother), a lot of the marvel characters will be involved in this series.
Content Warnings: profanity, near death experience, slight canon divergence, angst, violence. | Female OC (she/her) | word count: 5k roughly
Premise: Two years after the Avengers were drawn apart due to the events of the superhero Civil War, Dr. Evelyn ‘Eve’ Stark finds herself struggling with the amount of pressure the world has put on her. Though she has the help of her nephew, Tony, Eve still fears of potential future threats. And when a glowing orange ring appears in her bedroom with a strange man telling her to go with him, Eve realizes her fears are about to become reality.
Note: So the way I have these chapters set will make them very long heads up. Which is why they may take a few days—maybe even a week to come out. This chapter is basically the first half of Infinity War (Tony’s scenes) and then in part two it will be the second half. That’s where the Phoenix Force will come in for what I have planned because like in the comics, the host of the Phoenix Force absorbs it so that is what I have planned for Eve. Make sure to let me know if you wanna be tagged in the tag list for notifications on chapters. And hopefully I don’t get shadow banned anytime soon. The past three months I was and it was a pain.
2018
“Did you know?” Three words. Three words was all it took to shatter one’s world. To snap the already thin tightrope. While the truth was already in the air, the confession was needed. Her hand was clutching the nape of his suit, fingers trembling as the numbness already began to fill her.
“I didn’t know it was him.” Her hand tightened at the lie.
“Look me in the eyes, Steve Rogers,” the crack in her tone could not be hidden. “After everything—everything I have done for you, you don’t get to bullshit me now. Did. You Know?”
Steve could no longer stray away from the truth. Staring into Evelyn Stark’s eyes, his best friend since 1942, he muttered the one word that would shred the final bit of trust she ever had in him. “Yes.”
The endless nightmare rolled on like it always did. The feeling of disbelief and betrayal, before fury as Eve hurdles her fist across Steves face while Tony preoccupies himself with Bucky. The 2v2 battle is brutal and bloody. Three super soldier—each equipped with their specialty: A vibranium shield, a steel metal arm, carbon fiber wings, and a man with a billion dollar suit.
“How could you!?” Eve’s voice carried through the facility, throwing everything she got at the man as he countered each attack. “After everything—a-after all we’ve been through—THAT I’VE DONE FOR YOU STEVE—-.”
“Eve please—.”
“I TRUSTED YOU!!!”
Emotion took over logic—no room for peace and surly no room for forgiveness.
Any excuse or explanation was out of the picture for Steve. Neither Tony nor Eve would hear it. To them, all they saw was a man who kept the truth of what happened to their family hidden for two years.
“He’s my friend.”
“So were we.”
The vision always ended the same. It flashed quickly giving no time to see what preceded or followed. First a bright light as Tony’s arc blasted Bucky’s arm off. Then Steve on top of Eve as he wrenched the wings from the pack. And finally Eve shooting a bullet into Steves side before he could bring the shield down once more on Tony.
Eve awoke with a choked gasp, moisture coating her forehead and immediately reached for the glass of water on her nightstand to quench the feeling of her dry throat. After taking a few sips, she let out a sigh while wiping away the sweat before placing the glass back on the stand.
Two years. Two years and the same nightmare took over Eve’s mind each time she slept. Then the days followed the same routine which involved barely eating while trying to keep the peace between the government and the world. Ross was like a flea, always checking in and making sure none of the remaining Avengers were stepping out of place.
Like they even would if they could. The threat of life in prison was enough for them to stay behind the line the U.N drew and not even think about crossing.
Although that didn’t stop Tony from mentoring the kid vigilante known as Spider-Man. And when Tony does something, usually Eve is there to clean up the mess if need be. But the scientist would be lying if she said she didn’t have a soft spot for the boy—despite the chaos he’s caused in New York the past year.
“Ms. Stark?” H.O.W.I.E, her A.I system’s voice rang out causing Eve to sit up straight with a ‘yes?’ “Tony is on the line asking for you. Shall I patch him through?”
Throwing the covers off, Eve picks up the earpiece on the nightstand as she makes her way to the closet. “Yeah put him through.” The moment the earpiece is inserted, Eve hears Tony’s voice through the com.
“Are you decent?” She makes a face although he can’t see her.
“I literally just woke up Tony, I’m still in my night clothes—what is it?”
“How fast can you get dressed?”
The woman scoffs, pulling down a random Henley shirt with pair of black jeans. “That depends. Are you going to tell me why the hell you need me to rush?” She could hear arguing in the background, voices she couldn’t recognize. “Who are you with?”
“Some wizards and Banner.” Her hands freeze while pulling the jeans up her legs.
“Come again? Did you just say ‘some wizards and Banner?’ Bruce Banner?”
“Yes the one and only,” Tony sighs in her ear. As Eve secures her belt before removing her nightshirt to put on her bra and Henley, she hears a voice on the other end say to Tony, ‘we don’t have any more time to wait.’ “Just one more minute—Eve I need you to double time before this wizard ends up making an unexpected visit.”
The clip of her bra snaps into place, “What the hell do you—.”
“That’s it, time’s up,” the other voice cuts in just as Eve begins to hear a strange noise coming from her bedroom. On the com she heard Tony shouting, “no-no-no, wait-wait!” Eve throws open the door, Henley in hand only to drop it as a gasp escapes when she spots a bright glowing orange ring in the middle of her bedroom. A man in a blue tunic and red cloak steps through, eyes going wide and spinning around with a ‘ah!’
“I told you she was getting dressed!” Tony yells causing Eve to spot him in the room behind the ring with his hand up to cover his eyes. That’s when she notices Bruce Banner in the flesh beside Tony, also with his hand up and blush coating his cheeks. Another man, dressed in a tunic like the cloaked man, turned around with his back toward her.
“Who the fuck are you!?” Eve screams, reaching down for the shirt and pulling it over her head in a hurry. “Ever heard of knocking?” She turns back to the closet to retrieve her leather jacket and boots, returning to the room to put them on. “You can turn around now.” All four men do so, the one in the clock visibly red with embarrassment and refusing to make eye contact with the Avenger.
“I’m sorry,” he breaths out, but Eve waves a hand with a roll of the eyes.
“Don’t worry about it, wizard,” she rises from the bed to take her wrist cuffs from the opposite nightstand, securing them on before walking up to the man. “Shall we then,” her hand gestures to the glowing ring. ‘Whatever this is must be important—otherwise you would have magically teleported her in a hurry.” The unknown man raises a hand, gesturing to Eve through the portal in an ‘after you.’
The moment the two enter, the portal closes causing her to jump back. “To think some things still surprise me,” she mutters, adjusting her jacket. When she turns back, the first person she makes eye contact with is Bruce. “Lord have mercy,” Eve breaths out, moving to the man and embracing him in a hug that he returns immediately. “Where the hell have you been?”
“It’s a long story—.”
“And one we don’t have time for,” the cloaked man interrupts, moving past the two to the middle of the room. Eve sends daggers into his back, glancing briefly at Bruce as if to say ‘we’ll continue this later,’ which he nods back in agreement. Eve then looks at Tony for answered, but he just shrugs back. That’s when she sees the giant hole in the staircase and raises a brow, “What in the hell?”
They all look to the man waiting for him to begin. “My name is Doctor Stephen Strange. This is Wong,” he motions to the other man in a tunic, who bows to them in greeting. The name sparks familiarity in Eve.
“You’re Stephen Strange?” She asks, stepping forward. “The neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange?” This makes Stephen look taken aback.
“You know me?”
“Yeah,” she scoffs, nearly glaring at him. “I do. When our friend, Colonel James Rhodes, became paralyzed I hoped you would look at his case. You refused before seeing it.” Stephen clenches his jaw, glancing at the ground briefly.
“Yeah well, I’m no longer equipped for the field. And as you can see,” he gestures to the room around them, “this in the New York Sanctum Santorum of the Masters of Mystic Arts. Your friend, Dr. Banner here, happened to crash land through our roof this morning with some vital information of an impeding threat heading our way.”
“Impending threat?” Eve’s ears perk up, momentarily forgetting about the animosity she had for the former doctor.
“What do you know of the infinity stones?”
The two Starks share a look, neither finding the name familiar. “Never heard of them.”
“Oh you have,” Stephen says causing Eve to tilt her head. He continues before she could say anything, “You’re actually quite familiar with a couple of them. Wong.” All eyes go to the man standing on the opposite side. His hands were behind his back as he moved closer.
“In the dawn of the universe, there was nothing,” Wong thrusted a hand and out shined an image resembling a Big Bang, “then boom. Big Bang sent six elemental crystals hurdling across the virgin universe. These infinity stones each control an essential aspect of existence.” Eve’s breath catches in her throat when she sees the colors of the gems, realizing Stephen was right about her being familiar with some.
“Space,” Stephen calls out as the blue stone shines, followed by the red, “Reality. Power. Soul. Mind. And Time.” Bringing his hands in front of his chest, the symbol pendant opens to show a glowing green stone in its possession.
Eve and Tony share a look ridden with unease, Eve’s hand coming up to her chin as Tony says, “tell me his name again.”
“Thanos,” Bruce answers, approaching the two. “He’s a plague, Tony. He invades planets, he takes what he wants—he wipes out half of the population. He sent Loki. The attack on New York—that’s him.”
“This is him,” Tony whispered to himself while Eve closed her eyes as the hand covering her mouth began to tremble. “What’s our timeline?”
“No telling. He has the power and space stones—that already makes him the strongest creature in the whole universe. If he gets his hands on all six stones, Tony,—.”
Stephen finishes the sentence, “He could destroy life on a scale hither to undreamt of.”
“Did you seriously just say ‘hither to undreamt of’?”
“Are you seriously leaning on the cauldron of the cosmos?”
“Is that what it is—?” The billionaire is cut off when the cloak around Stephen smacks his shoulder causing Tony to jump back. Offense takes over his face, “I’m going to allow that. If Thanos needs all six why don’t we just stick this one down the garbage disposal?” Even Eve has to face palm at the idea.
“That’s not how it works, Tony.”
“No can do,” Stephen agrees.
“We swore an oath to protect the time stone with our lives,” Wong looks at Tony like he’s mad for suggesting such a thing.
“And I swore off dairy—,” Tony interjects, “but then Ben n Jerry’s named a flavor after me, so?”
“Stark Raving Hazelnut,” Stephen looks down with an unimpressed tone.”
“It’s not bad.”
“a bit chalky.” Eve stifles a giggle, trying to hide her smirk at Tony’s offended expression when Wong adds, “A hunka-hulka burning fudge is our favorite.”
“That’s a thing?”
“Also Eagle Eve’s toffee crunch,” Stephen points out causing Eve to lightly blush when they make eye contact.
“Whatever. Point is, things change,” Tony cuts in annoyed.
“Our oath to protect the time stone cannot change,” Stephens eyes narrows. “This stone may be the best chance we have against Thanos.”
“Yeah so conversely, may be his best chance against us.”
“So if we don’t do our jobs—.”
“What is your job exactly, besides making balloon animals?”
“Tony,” Eve snaps, but he ignores her and continues his stare of with Stephen.
“Protecting your reality, douchebag.”
“Okay guys,” by now Bruce has had enough with the two, moving forward to grab their attention. “Could-could we table this discussion right now? The fact is, is that we have this stone—we know where it is. Vision is out there somewhere with the mind stone and we have to find him now.”
Eve drops her shoulders with defeat as Tony looks down. Neither of them want to break it to Bruce about all that happened in the past two years he was missing, but it was inevitable. “Yeah, that’s the thing….”
“What do you mean?” Bruce looks between the two.
“Two weeks ago Vision turned off his transponder,” Eve tells him, scratching the back of her neck. “He’s offline.”
“What?!” He turns to Tony, seeing the confirmation of the billionaires face. “Tony, you lost another super bot?”
“I didn’t lose him, he’s more than that!” He defends. “He’s evolving.” Stephen steps around behind him asking, “who could find Vision then?” The question once again has the Starks glance at one another. Eve shakes her head, already refusing the idea despite knowing it was the only chance they had.
Only one man on the planet could locate Vision. And it was the last person she ever wanted to see.
“Probably Steve Rogers,” Tony finally answers and Eve turns away to avoid the inevitable discussion about to happen. The Sorcerers, knowing what took place in 2016 with Avengers, curse under their breath. “Maybe.”
Bruce, oblivious to the tension, walks up to Tony. “Call him.”
“It’s not that easy. God, we haven’t caught up in a spell have we?” Tony moves closer to the scientist, looking to see Eve has moved further away to stare at the walls of the room. “The Avengers broke up. We’re toast.”
“Broke up?” Bruce tilts his head. “Like a band? Like-like The Beatles?” If it wasn’t such a sore topic, Eve would’ve laughed at Bruce’s analogy.
“Cap and I fell out hard,” Tony looks away before adding, “Him and Eve even harder. We’re not on speaking terms.”
On any other day, Bruce would sympathize and understand the situation for the Starks. He wouldn’t expect them to drop everything and call Steve right away if they weren’t ready.
But today was not like any other day.
Time was not on their side. Thanos loomed over the horizon and was on the move. They had no way to know if he already possessed the two other stones in space or if Thor made it out alive. If they didn’t work now then the fate of the universe would be forever altered. “Tony, listen to me,” Bruce takes a step forward, voice going low to emphasize the message. “Thor’s gone. Thanos is coming it doesn’t matter who you’re talking to or not.”
“He’s right,” Eve finally says after being silent for so long. The whole time she was thinking, wondering if she could come up with a plan to track Vision instead of calling Steve. But with time at an essence and not knowing what Thanos’s next move was they needed to act quick. They all turn to her, watching her bring her arms to chest as she slowly moves back to face them. “He’s right, Tony. Believe me the last thing I want is to see Steve, but we need to act fast and if Vision is with Wanda then chances are Steve knows where they are. He can get to them faster than us.”
It goes quiet. Tony thinks for a moment before eventually sighing, stepping away to remove a small flip phone from his pocket. Flipping it open, Tony locates the only number listed on the contacts, ‘Steve Rogers,’ with the digits right below. As his thumb hovers over the call button, his attention is drawn up at a sudden sound.
Eve unfolds her arms, glancing around as it reaches her ears. It was almost like the wind, more so like a plane, but devious. It sounded a far yet drawing closer—closer with each second.
When Eve turns back to face the group of men, that’s when her attention catches Stephens. And she notices the loose strands of his hair moving side to side. “You wouldn’t happen to be moving your hair would you, Stephen?”
His hair moves faster, “not at the moment. No.”
Eve gulps, glancing up to the hole in the ceiling, “I think someone found us.” They all follow her gaze, the flicker of paper and leaves moving rapidly in the sky as the sound grows louder. Slowly, they face the door.
Silhouettes of people running on the streets skid past the stained glass. Muffled shouts of distress are heard as they approach the door, Tony leading the way and he opens it to reveal the scene before them. There’s dust in the air making it hard to see, frantic pedestrians running down the streets.
Tony heads toward the direction they are running from. As they rush past him a young lady trips, falling to the ground and he rushes to help her up. “Are you okay?” She shrieks in response, pushing him away to run. Eve feels her nerves heighten as she watches after her, gasping when a car collides with the street pole right next to her. “Help him!”
“Go, go!” Bruce waves to him as he and Wong assist the man. “We got it.” Tony quickly removes his glasses from his pocket to place them on, “F.R.I.D.A.Y, what am I looking at?” “Not sure, I’m working on it.” Tony glances back at Strange, “Hey! You might wanna put that time stone in your back pocket, doc!”
Stephen waves his hands and orange rings encase his wrists, “Might want to use it.”
Eve taps the com in her ear, “H.O.W.I.E, call for an emergency evacuation in the three mile vicinity around Bleeker Street and have emergency services en route.” “I’m on it, boss. Stand by.” Picking up the pace Eve moves beside Tony, the two walking across the street to see the source of the chaos unfolding in New York. “Is that a flying donut?”
It sure as hell looked like it. The large red spaceship was circular with a gaping hole in the middle. As it lowered down onto the city, dust gathered in the air and sent paper flying.
The five moved directly in the middle of the intersection so they were head on with the spaceship. Tony relayed the same info to F.R.I.D.A.Y that Eve said early while Strange began doing some movements with this hands. When he thrusted him forward, the dust flew back until it disparate beyond the ship, making it visibly clear to the eye.
Taken aback, Tony looked to Strange only to receive a cocky wink from the sorcerer. He rolled his eyes, missing the smirk was trying to fight, and turned back just in time to see a blue light cast down from the ship. When it touched the ground, two figures were standing in it’s wake.
“Here me,” the shorter one, Ebony Maw, called out. “And rejoice, you are about to die at the hands of the children of Thanos.” Eve felt her jaw clench, eyes narrowing as the man went on. “Be thankful that your meaningless lives are now contributing to—.”
“I’m sorry! Earth is closed today,” Tony interrupted the speech, making everyone look at him. “You better pack it up, and get out of here.”
“Stone keeper,” Maw addressed Stephen, who raised a brow in return. “Does this chattering animal speak for you?”
“Certainly not, I speak for myself” he stepped forward, clapping his hands together to form shields. “You’re trespassing in this city and on this planet.” Wong repeated the action, forming his own shields.
“That means get lost Squidward!”
“He exhausts me,” Maw sighed to his companion, Cull Obsidian, who grunted. “Bring me the stone.” Cull grips his weapon and begins moving toward the group.
Eve straightens, reading to tap her bracelets to unleash her suit when Tony says to Bruce, “Banner, you want a piece?” Sweating, Bruce fumbles with his blazer, “mmm, no. Not really. But then again when do I ever really get what I want.”
“Been awhile,” Tony cranks his neck, not seeing how Bruce was beginning to struggle transforming to Hulk. “Good to have you buddy.”
Eve glances to Bruce, wondering what was taking so long and sees the green veins poking out, but not taking full control. “Bruce you okay?” She realizes Hulk isn’t wanting to come out and becomes concerned.
“I have to concentrate one second.” Meanwhile Cull is inching closer to them, looking menacing as ever. Bruce bends his knees, trying to will Hulk out but failing all the less.
“Where’s your guy?”
“I don’t know—we’re sorta having a thing,” he sighs.
“There’s no time for a thing,” Tony pats his chest and points to Cull. “That’s the thing right there—let’s go.” Bruce leans back, green taking over his neck and groans out while leaning back. Stephen, Tony, and Eve all share a look—Stephen not looking impressed at all. “Dude you’re embarrassing us in front of the wizards.”
“I’m sorry—I can’t—or he won’t.”
Tony places his hands on Bruce’s shoulders, drawing him back a few steps beside Wong. “Okay, stand down. Keep an eye on him. Thank you.” He moves back to Eve, the two connecting eyes, “You ready?”
“When am I not?” She zips up her jacket while he tightens his just as Cull begins to run toward them. Eve taps twice on each bracelet, while Tony taps his chest, and together they unveil their new and improved suits. Golden armor runs up Eve’s arms until it’s around her whole body—wing pack and helmet to form the Iron Eagle.
It was the first time she was using the suit after completing it with Tony, so Eve prayed it did it’s job.
Tony’s Mark L fully took over just in time for Cull to bring down his hammer like weapon. Thrusting a shield out, he deflected the attack and sent Cull flying with his energy blasters. Maw then waved a hand to direct Cull into a car before he could hit him.
“Were’d that come from?” Bruce said in amazement, glancing at Eve’s golden form as well.
“It’s nanotech. You like it? A little something—,” Tony went airborne as Maw raised his hand upward, causing Eve to shout, “Tony!”Maw then three two trees at the four and Wong stepped forward while circling his hand to deflect.
“Dr. Banner, since the rest of your green friend won’t be joining us,” Stephen opened a portal beneath Bruce to the nearby park. Bruce shouted in surprise, grunting when he landed on the ground only to move quickly so he wouldn’t get crushed by the taxi that also fell through.
Together Wong and Strange used their magic to bring a car toward them, which Eve then used the blaster under hand to send it flying back towards Maw—who only lifted a finger to cut the vehicle in half. Tony landed beside Eve, letting out a frustrated huff. “You gotta get that stone out of here, now.”
“It stays with me,” Stephen says annoyed for the fifth time.
“Exactly. Bye!” Eve unleashes her wings and the two fly toward Maw, weaving through debris he sends their way. What they didn’t expect was Cull to fling his hammerhead. It trapped Tony and with Eve distracted Maw threw her into the nearby building, the glass shattering as she went through a window.
For Tony, he collides with a tree a the park, the park Bruce just so happened to be at. “Tony! You okay? How we doing—good?”
“Really-really good. Are you planning on helping out?”
“I’m trying. He won’t come out.” Cull breaks through the building across with a grunt, flinging his hammerhead again. Tony pushes Bruce out of the way and into the grass before flying back to Cull. He sends an energy beam, but Cull holds a shield causing it to hit a tree which nearly falls on Bruce.
The two circle each other, Tony blasting Cull until he’s thrown to the ground. He’s pursued by Cull, who raises his weapon to bring down on Tony only to stop midair. “Hey man,” a voice greets, clad in a red and blue suit holding back the metal from hitting Tony. “What’s up, Mr. Stark?”
“Kid, where’d you come from?” He asks Peter.
“A field trip—ahh!” Peter is cut off when Cull yanks him away. Eve shows up in the nick of time to catch the vigilante before he could smack the ground. “Oh hey, Miss. Eve!”
“Hey, kid,” She greets, setting him down. “You shouldn’t be here,” she then flies off before he could protest. Peter huffs, flinging out webs to assist the heroes, “Uh what is this guys problem, Mr. Stark?”
“Uh he’s from space. He came here to steal a necklace from a wizard.” Eve rolled her eyes beneath her mask, sending blasts to Cull while flying high to dodge his attacks. Peter goes for a shot only to get in Culls hold once more and tossed to the side. Together, the three go neck and neck with Cull. At some point Peter flutings the half taxi cab at Cull to knock him down and Eve sticks her feet out to send him flying across the grass.
A few moments later a figure skids past them. “Kid, that’s the wizard. Get on it.”
“I’m on it!“ Peter swings off with a shout. Distracted, Eve grunts when Cull wacks her full on with the hammer. The impact has her skidding several yards away and she quickly recovers to her feet.
“Uh, Mr. Stark, I’m being beamed up!” Eve curses to herself when she hears Peter’s frantic voice.
“Hang on kid,” Tony says as he fights Cull. “Eve, go!” Wings at the ready, Eve takes to the skies. Already the flying donut is airborne and moving fast towards the atmosphere.
“H.O.W.I.E, I need more power,” she says and the thrusters on her wings and feet extended before firing her up. The new suit was equipped to make her travel as fast as an F-18, faster than Sam’s wing pack and even Tony’s suit. Now Eve was reaching full speed and Tony was not too far behind her.
“unlock seventeen-A,” he said to F.R.I.D.A.Y. Knowing what it entailed, Eve looked to her right in the direction of the Avengers compound. A little trail of smoke pin pointed the object in question. “Pete, you gotta let go. I’m gonna catch you.”
“But you said save the wizard!” The boy removed his mask, “ugh I can’t breath.”
“We’re too high up, kid,” Eve tells him, the distance between her and the ship closing rapidly. “You’re running out of air. You need to let go now.”
“Oh yeah,” she heard him pant. “That makes sense.” His body fell back in time for 17-A to fly past Eve, hitting his back to allow the nanotech to unveil. Before he could collide with the ship and fall, Eve caught him in her arms. “Woah!” He shouted when she set him down. “Mr. Stark, it smells like a new car in here!”
“Happy trails, kid,” Tony came up from the side. “F.R.I.D.A.Y, send him home.” “Yep.” Before Peter could react, a parachute deployed from his back and he was off the ground, “Oh come on!” Eve shook her head, sighing as she flew up to Tony. She’d be lying if she said she wasn’t relieved the boy was gone—this was far beyond Peter and she wanted him safe.
“Kid’s got heart and guts,” she held her wrist up to the wall of the ship, “I’ll give him that.” A beam hit the surface, Eve moving her wrist in a rectangular shape until it gave way and allowed an opening for the two.
Tony entered first just as F.R.I.D.A.Y said, “Boss, incoming call from Ms. Potts,” before Peppers voice filled his ears. “Tony? Oh my God, are you alright? What’s going on?” “Yeah Im fine,” he tells her, “I just think we’re going to have to push our eight-thirty res.” “Why?” “Just cause I’ll probably not make it back for awhile.”
Eve lets her helmet retract, frowning as she listens in to the conversation. “Tell me you’re not on that ship.” Tony’s helmet also retracts, his expression full of distress and regret. “Yeah.” “God—no, please tell me you’re not—.” “I’m sorry. I’m sorry—I don’t understand—.” “Come back, Tony! I swear to God.”
Pepper continues to plead to Tony, but the reception begins to give out as they draw further away from Earth. “Boss, we’re loosing her.” Eve glances to the ground, unable to see the pain in her nephews face. The call eventually cuts out, and Tony is left standing still. It’s silent between the two for a moment. “I’m sorry, Tony.”
There was nothing they could currently do. They were on a spaceship going God knows where and the only person they were aware on it were Maw and Strange. A jolt forward, nearly sending them to the ground, confirmed their suspicious they were now far away from Earth. They had to have been traveling faster than the speed of light.
“We need to find the wizard,” Tony leans against the wall when it’s finally stable again. “Then go from there.”
“Agreed,” Eve nods and the two make their way to the nearest exit. “You think he’ll break? Give up the stone?” She asks when they find a door leading to a platform.
“The wizard?” Tony scoffs, “not a chance. He wouldn’t even leave the stone some place safe. I doubt magic squidward’s gonna crack him.”
“Let’s hope not,” she sighs following behind him closely. They walk for a few minutes, climbing up platforms and railings until they finally reach an open area. It doesn’t take long for them to figure out it’s the heart of the ship. There’s a large screen-like projection taking up wall to floor and Tony leans over the edge to find Strange trapped in some needles while Maw looks on.
“Found them,” he mutters to Eve, who glances over to see the scene below. Neither notice the familiar red cloak sneak behind them until it pats Tony on the shoulder. Instantly, Tony raises his hand ready to send the threat blasting. When he realizes it’s the cloak he relaxes, “Wow, you are a seriously loyal piece of outerwear aren’t you.”
“Yeah speaking of loyalty….” Eve’s eyes nearly pop out of her head when she sees Peter hanging upside down. Tony matches her expression, “What the—.”
“I know what you’re going to say—.”
“You should not be here.” Eve cuts in angrily, before Peter begins to ramble.
“I was gonna go home—.” “I don’t want to hear it.” “—but it was such a long way down and I just thought about you two and—.” “And now I gotta hear it.” “—I got stuck to the side of the ship— and this suit…is ridiculously intuitive by the way so if anything it’s kinda your fault I’m here.”
Tony’s eyes brows go straight to his hairline, “What did you just say.” Even the cloak was shook, glancing between the two. Peter starts to stutter, his cheeks going red from his mess up, “I-I-I I take that back. And now I’m here in space.”
“Yeah,” Tony agrees, moving toward him. “Right where I didn’t want you to be. This isn’t Coney Island or some field trip—this is a one way ticket. You hear me? Don’t pretend you thought this through.”
“I did think this through,” he defends. “I did think this through! You can’t be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man if there’s no neighborhood.” Eve wanted to facepalm at Peter’s naiveness, but decided against it. The kid was there and with now way to get him home, he was stuck with them whether they liked it or not. “Okay that doesn’t really make sense, but you know what I’m trying to say.”
The stress on Tony’s face spoke a thousand words. Eventually he just gives up. “C’mon we got a situation.” Tony points over the edge to where Maw currently has Strange trapped. “See him down there? He’s in trouble, what’s your plan? Go.” Eve crosses her arms, moving to stand on Peter’s right as he crouches down to get a better look.
“Umm,” he hums, “Okay-okay umm.” Another second ticks by before he stands up. “Okay, ever see this really old movie, ‘Aliens’?”
“‘Aliens’?” Eve repeats with concern, seeing the look on Tony’s face. She wasn’t really keen on trusting the kid if his plan was based off a movie. Especially one she hasn’t seen. “Tony, you trust this?”
The man thinks for a moment shrugging, “He hasn’t failed me yet.” For a few minutes, they work together on who does what until they finally set it in motion. Tony flies directly above and behind Maw, which accordingly catches Strange’s attention and therefore causes Maw to turn around. It gives Peter, the cloak, and Eve time to get in position.
“I could end your friend’s life in an instant,” the alien threatens.
“I gotta tell you he’s not really my friend. Saving his life is more of a professional curtesy.” Eve rolls her eyes at Tony’s words but finds no surprise in them.
“You save nothing. Your powers are inconsequential compared to mine.”
“Yeah, but the kid’s seen more movies.” With that a rocket launches from the side, catching Maw off guard as it blasts a hole into the ships wall. The winds vortex pulls him in into the cold, dark world that is outer space and Strange also finds himself being pulled. The cloak catches his hand first, but the wind is too powerful and loses his grasp.
“I got him!” Eve springs into action, her wings ejecting out as she falls off the platform. Her hands wrap around Stephen tightly, colliding into him from the side so they’re not pulled into the vortex. She flies them away from the hole so Tony could seal it and sets Stephen gently down on the platform by the controls.
“Thanks,” he says to her with a huff, feeling a little dazed from what just happened. She gives him a nod, “No problem, doc. Glad to see you still have the gem causing all the trouble.” She walks away before he could answer, missing how the man watches her and focuses her attention on the large screen.
“Hey, we never officially met,” Peter drops down beside the cloak, extending a hand. The relic ignores him, moving toward Stephen and Peter drops his hand. “Cool.”
Tony lands on the platform, passing Stephen as he retracts his suit. Eve does the same by tapping her bracelets, letting the golden armor disappear. “We gotta turn this ship around,” Stephen says as Tony walks up to Eve, moving past to get a good look at what they were dealing with.
The billionaire scoffs, “Yeah. Now he wants to run. Great.”
“I want to protect the stone,” Stephen argues, but Tony isn’t having it.
“And I want you to thank me now. Go ahead I’m listening.”
“For what? Nearly blasting me into space?”
Tony spins around so fast, Eve has to step back. “Who just saved your magical ass? Me.”
“I seriously don’t know how you fit your head into that helmet.”
“Neither do I sometimes,” Eve mutters, turning away to not deal with the two going at it again.
“Admit it,” Tony continues, either not hearing his aunt or downright ignoring her. “You should’ve dubbed out when I told you to. I tried to bench you and you refused.”
“Unlike everyone else in your life, I don’t work for you,” Stephens rebuttals has Eve turning around, offense in her expression.
“Excuse me?”
Stephen raises an apologetic hand, “Okay except you—I know that.” She huffs, crossing her arms. ‘Damn right he better take that back,’ she thinks to herself.
“And due to that fact,” Tony get’s their attention once more. “We’re now on a flying donut, billions of miles from Earth with no backup.”
“I’m backup,” Peter offers, which has the Starks immediate refusal.
“No, you’re a stowaway,” Tony motions a finger between him, Strange and Eve. “The adults are talking.”
“I-I’m sorry, I’m confused as is to the relationship here. Wh-what is he? Is he your ward?” Eve couldn’t help but laugh at the assumption, “That’s a new one.”
“No,” Peter answered and goes to introduce himself. “I’m Peter, by the way.”
“Doctor Strange.”
“Oh you’re using your made up names. Um, i’m Spider-Man then.” The look on Stephen’s face nearly sent Eve into hysterics if the situation wasn’t so serious. The man looked so offended, she wondered what was going on in his head. Eventually he just walks away from the boy.
“This ship is self correcting it’s course,” Eve voices to the group. “It’s on autopilot.”
“Can we control it?” He asks. “Fly us home?”
“It’s possible…..” Eve starts and eventually trails off when she notices Tony’s expression. It’s a look she’s seen all too well. A look when he’s planning something. “What are you thinking, Tony?” The sorcerer follows her gaze at the question, noticing Tony had been quiet for awhile.
“Stark,” Stephen snaps him out of his thoughts. “Can you get us home?”
“Yeah I heard you,” his hands cross in front of him, brows furrowing as he thinks. “I think I’m not so sure we should.” Stephen’s refusal is eminent.
“Under no circumstances can we bring the time stone to Thanos. I don’t thin you quite understand what’s at stake here.”
“No—,” Tony walks up to him, clenching his fist. “It’s you, who doesn’t understand that Thanos has been inside my head for six years since he sent an army to New York and now he’s back! And I don’t know what to do. So I’m not so sure if it’s a better plan to fight him on our turf or his, but you saw what they did-what they can do. At least on his turf he’s not expecting it. So I say, we take the fight to him, doctor.”
Eve, having been silent to let Tony make his point, strokes her jaw lightly. It was a good plan. Thanos would think the ship being there was Maw with the stone as he planned, but having them there would catch the Titan off guard. “We don’t have many options here boys. At frankly I’m tired of watching you two compete on who has the biggest ego. Time isn’t on our side and I’m gonna have to agree with Tony on this one. Going to wherever this ship is heading is our best bet—and if we’re lucky, maybe we can buy time before Thanos gets more stones.”
Tony holds back a smirk, feeling triumph that his aunt agrees with him. Which is something she rarely does nowadays after the Ultron fiasco. “So, do we concur?”
“Alright, Stark,” Stephen finally says. “We go to him. But you have to understand if it comes to saving you two or the kid, or the time stone, I will not hesitate to let any of you die.” Though not surprising, it still makes the Starks clench their jaws. “I can’t because the universe depends on it.”
“Nice,” Tony pats his shoulder. “Good, moral compass. We’re straight.” He walks away, trying not to let his emotion show. Both Tony and Eve accepted this was a one-way trip, but hearing Strange say it puts it into perspective.
As he looks on after Tony, Stephen ends up connecting eyes with Eve. The super-soldier appeared stoic, doing her best to not look affected like Tony, but Stephen could pick up on her distress. Something in his chest tightens at the way her chocolate eyes stare back at him. They were piercing into his soul and part of him regretted how he spoke earlier about not hesitating to sacrifice her. She quickly looked away, pushing off the consul she was leaning against to turn her back on the sorcerer in time to see Tony approach Peter.
“Kid,” Tony says when he stands before him. The boy perks up, watching Tony’s arm go up to make the shape of an ‘A’ across the boys chest. “You’re an Avenger now.”
All Evelyn Stark could do now was hope and pray the mission goes as planned. Get to wherever it was the ship was going, have Thanos find them and defeat him before any more stones could be collected. Earth was far from their grasp, their only hope being the remaining heroes that assembled.
The fate of the universe was in their hands.
And chaos is sure to follow if the odds don’t fall in their favor.
Four Fascinating Fortnite Facts
Fortnite is a game we all know and love. In 2017, the world was introduced to a game that would change our lives forever… with its cool graphics, interesting concepts, intricate styles with team-size options and live concerts with big artists such as Ariana Grande and Travis Scott, it could not be helped that this is THE game that would shake the Earth’s core.
I remember first seeing the word Fortnite on my screen, as just a baby gamer. Seeing the words did something that immediately changed my life’s trajectory. It took over my life. I ran, I smoked, I danced until dawn… but I could not escape the feeling.
I would be brewing coffee before work and seeing the words “chug jug” form in the milk like my latte knew what was on my mind and tearing me from the inside outwards. I would look up to the sky, in desperation and hope for my future, “Why, oh why!” I would scream, “Why can I not escape this game!”.
It was a Friday night, and I was at the local Wetherspoons here in Texas. I was swaying my hips and running my fingers through my hair; hoping to lose myself in the night, maybe I could find something new to take my mind away – something to change this never-ending journey I am on to find out more about this game that has found its way into every fibre of my being. I look up, from the sea of vampires and saw him. I saw the blonde character… It was him. I felt at this point everything in my life had led to this moment. He held me in his embrace and leaned in. At this moment, I knew that nothing else mattered; it was at this moment I knew I had found my meaning. It was him. It was always him. He then swerved to my ear, and with a wry grin he whispers, “Lol you sussy baka”.
Paid game?
The first fact about Fortnite that you MUST know about is the fact that when it was initially released you had to pay for it! Crazy, right? It was only in September of 2017 that Fortnite became a free-to-play game for all.
How much did they make in 2018?
Fortnite generated a whopping $2.4 billion in revenue in 2018, and it was even the subject of a science test for a student’s finals project because of this. 2018 was Fortnite’s second year of activity and generated that much which just shows how effective the free-to-play in-game purchase method is in generating money.
I’m sorry… what is the processor requirement?
You would assume that you would need a lot of RAM to run this however, this could not be further from the truth! In fact, you only need an i3 processor to run the game! I learned this on the website of a company called 3B systems, here is the link:
https://www.3bsystems.co.uk/ (In case the above link does not work!)
Then I found that they actually build computers to specific game requirements, so you have no problem running the games you want, Fortnite, for example! How cool!
What happened in 2018?
So, in April 2018, Fortnite actually made more money than the Avengers Infinity War film on the week of the premiere the following month! Fortnite grossed $296 million, whereas Avengers Infinity War made $250 million in comparison.
That wraps up my post on Fortnite facts. I hope you learned something new and are leaving this blog with the same love for Fortnite that I have. Here’s a link to the website in case the above ones are not working for some reason!https://www.3bsystems.co.uk/
Whether you're a major Marvel Cinematic Universe fan, you follow a specific character, making it to every other installment in which they appear, or you’re just there for that good old fashioned superhero feel, you’ve got to admit, Phase 4, the most recent era of Marvel entertainment (beginning with WandaVision in January of this year) is shaping up to be like nothing we’ve ever seen before. A whole new generation of superheroes are lining up to steal the hearts of thousands of fans.
So, do you want a few spoilers? Do you want to get to know some of America’s future favorites before your friends have even heard their names? Well, I’m glad you said yes, because I'm here for you!
Most of (if not all) of the Marvel movies are (guess what?) based off of comics released by the very same Marvel years before. That’s no surprise I’m sure, but the really cool thing about this is that you can get to know, and continue to enjoy, your on-screen favorite characters between films.
So you’re wondering where to start? Believe me, it can be super confusing when you can search Amazon for comics featuring a certain character and come up with thirty different options. And that’s where I come in. I’m a Big Marvel comics fan and I’m writing today to introduce you to some upcoming female Marvel heroes I’m really excited about. I’ll give you my opinion of how to best meet them. And save you from a lot of Amazon scrolling :) Let's get started...
Tumblr media
Kate Bishop A.K.A Hawkeye (Making her debut in the Hawkeye TV series beginning on Nov. 24th.)
Who is She?: Why, she’s Hawkeye! What, you thought Hawkeye was some guy named Clint Barton? Well, think again. There’s two of them! Kate Bishop wasn’t always Hawkeye. She was born the daughter of rich parents and it wasn’t til she was a teenager, and her life took some pretty hard twists, that she started training in self defence (and eventually) archery (all the skills a normal human with a sharp mind needs to make it in the superhero world. Come on, you’ve seen Avengers, you saw how it worked for the other Hawkeye, and Blackwidow). When a young team of superheroes, The Young Avengers, crashed her sister’s wedding in an attempt to save everyone from a group of armed men (who’d actually crashed the wedding first), Kate finally found a team who understood and supported her. And, eventually, (after a lot of wild adventures), they'd become her chosen family. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves! What you've got to remember is this girl is totally Hawkeye. The better one.
Who Plays Her?: Hailee Steinfeld from True Grit (2010) as Mattie Ross, Bumblebee (2018) as Charlie Watson, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) as Gwen Stacy’s (or Spider-Gwen’s) voice. The set photos they’ve released so far look very promising… She fits Kate’s character pretty darn well!
Where to Get Started: I’d recommend starting with Kieron Gillen and Jamie Mckelvie’s run of Young Avengers. A fan favorite, this series is where I first encountered Kate and it might be worth getting to know all her friends and teammates… we're gonna see them on the big screen soon! Find it on Amazon.
Fun Fact: Kate and Clint share a pet dog named Lucky or Pizza Dog. Though he doesn’t have the best eyesight (he’s missing his left eye), Kate couldn’t ask for a better super-animal companion.
Tumblr media
Kamala Khan A.K.A Ms. Marvel (Debuting in the Ms. Marvel TV show which is scheduled to be released at some point late this year. Maybe December.)
Who is She?: Kamala Khan was just your ordinary Jersey City teenager until her Inhuman (ancient alien) genetics activated. Suddenly, with her newly unleashed polymorph powers, Kamala found herself fighting for justice under the name Ms. Marvel (in honor of her personal hero, Captain Marvel). But what Kamala found, as she faced off against a wide array of super villains as Jersey City’s hometown hero, is to really be a hero, you can’t just do it with a mask, you’ve got to be there for your friends and family no matter what life throws at you. Introduced in 2014, Ms. Marvel is Marvel’s first Pakistani American teen hero. And since then she’s paved the way for a whole new age of what it means to be “super”. When it comes to being grounded and having her community’s back, there aren’t many who can top Kamala. It’s about time she made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut!
Who Plays Her?: Iman Vellani will be playing Kamala in all her upcoming Marvel appearances. This is Iman’s first film appearance, and it’s so exciting to see a young woman of Pakistani heritage (finally) taking her place alongside Marvel’s panoply of actors.
Where to Get Started: I’d get started with the classic G. Willow Wilson run. There, you can’t go wrong. Not only is it the series Kamala first appeared in, it’s one of the most iconic Marvel comics of the last decade. Find it on Amazon.
Fun Fact: Kamala loves writing fanfic (specifically about her hero Captain Marvel), and writes online under the pen name SlothBaby. This girl’s got ALL the skills!
Kamala is also scheduled to co-star in The Marvels film coming out November of next year!
Tumblr media
America Chavez A.K.A Ms. America (Scheduled to Debut and co-star in the upcoming film Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness coming out in theaters on March 25th of next year.)
Who is She?: America Chavez was born the daughter of two loving mothers in Utopia, an all-female reality parallel to the standard Marvel reality, 616 (where all our classic heroes, minus Miles, are from). America had an amazing childhood, filled with love (and a pretty tough abuela), but it was too good to last. As a young girl, America absorbed the Demiurge (a sentient life force that created planets and gods). This gave America the power to literally punch her way to different realities. Pretty sweet, huh? Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to stop what happened next. When America was only six years old, black holes threatened to engulf the entire Utopia. However, she came from a family of heroic women, and her mothers sacrificed themselves to heal their home. They're still out there, smeared across the universe for eternity. But this left America with a lack of mothers, and a serious urge to live up to their example. America always knew she would be a hero. With her ability to cross realities, she joined and fought with many different superhero teams. Some connections lasted, some didn’t, but she always knows she can believe in justice... and herself. After all, her mothers showed her how.
Who Plays Her?: Xochitl Gomez who appeared as Dawn Schafer in The Baby-Sitters Club series on Netflix. Xochitl grew up in Los Angeles and is of Mexican descent. I can’t wait to see this talented young woman take on America’s mantle!
Where to Get Started: This may sound repetitive, but my favorite America Chavez comic is definitely Kieron Gillen and Jamie Mckelvie’s run of Young Avengers. I mean, it’s not every day America can punch her way through ALL her problems, but in Young Avengers, it’s practically necessary. Besides, this way you can get to know America and Kate at the same time! Find it on Amazon.
Fun Fact: America’s birthday is on the Fourth of July. How appropriate is that for a patriotic-themed superhero?
I hope that this is a helpful guide and exciting introduction to these amazing young female heros and I sincerely hope that after you read this piece, you, like me, will be waiting in anticipation for their on-screen debuts! Check back in in a few months for round two, Marvel’s really outdoing themselves when it comes to bringing us more awesome female power!
Got any questions about this post? Fire them at me, I’ll do my best to answer.
Make mine Marvel!
Author Q&A: searchforanotherway
Tumblr media
🖤 The MCU Dark Library encourages everyone to reblog and share the wonderful talents of this community, no matter how big or small your following is. Supporting each other is key to ensuring the longevity of this community. 🖤
Please be sure to reblog and share with your followers.
Tell us who you are!
@searchforanotherway
How long have you been writing fanfics? If the MCU wasn’t your first fandom, what was?
I published my first fanfic on FFN in 2015 for Naruto and RWBY. From there, I discovered a community of Overwatch writers on Tumblr by 2018 and began writing fanfic for Overwatch until I got into the marvel and started writing Avengers fanfic in 2019.
What helps motivate you to write? Where do you find inspiration?
If I am procrastinating and looking for motivation, usually I will go back and re-read some of my works to get the gears in my head thinking about future scenes and plot. I like to think of myself as a maladaptive daydreamer and visualize my story to help organize the plot. I also try to re-read some of my favorites from other writers as good inspiration to remind myself of the type of dark!fic and writing style I'm hoping to achieve.
If you could give new writers any advice, what would it be?
Read from your favorite fanfic authors and ANALYZE their work. I don't mean to say "be critical", but notice the things they do right! Or in better terms, notice the things you like about their writing. Some writers are talented at exposition or narration, detailed descriptions, setting the tone (especially for dark!fics) in their writing, paragraph formatting and grammar; understand all the writers that inspire you and adopt parts of their writing style that you like from all of them to help improve your own writing and create a unique style that you can appreciate.
The last advice I will give is a classic saying that I think all writers are well familiar with: "show, don't tell". It's something I'm still trying to get better at myself, but I do think that writing descriptively helps! And trying to balance that with some exposition and narration can make the difference in the pacing of your fic. There's a lot of resources online, so I suggest checking it out if your still confused! The internet is always available to help you with writing!
What is your favourite dark trope and/or kink? Why?
As much as I wouldn't mind listing off every trope and kink I love, I think I can sum them all up as any trope or kink that has disturbing intimacy. So breeding kinks and A/B/O's are a yes! Not so much other things like gun/knife kinks. Along that, any type of yandere trope that shows some sort of one-sided affection to the subject of said affections.
Share a few lines/paragraphs of one of your stories that truly sums up your style. Don’t forget to share a link to the story!
I will leave a lengthy snippet below from my Overwatch story, 'Hime'. It's currently still in progress and available to read on AO3. (https://archiveofourown.org/works/18539803/chapters/43942510)
“Don’t take me away from him! I’m not leaving!”
But no amount of strength you had could help you as Hanzo finally ripped you away from Genji.
“No! Nooo!” You beat your fists over the Shimada lord, but they did nothing while Hanzo quickly lifted you into his arms, carrying you like the bride you were supposed to be, walking the two of you away from the crowd.
You turned over to face them again, yelling louder, “Please! Someone save my husband, please!” You cried even harder watching all the shocked expressions from everyone. They all roamed closer to Genji’s dying body, but none of them made a move to help him.
You reached out for your love, and countless more tears washed down your face, but when the gates to the palace suddenly came into your vision, closing itself from the city, did you turn to Hanzo.
“Brother! W-where are you taking me?” Hanzo didn’t respond but instead continued to walk through the compound and up the stairs that led to the Shimada’s home. You struggled out of his grip, but Hanzo’s grasp was firm and unyielding. You cried out in pain when his hands held your body even tighter to his hot chest. The doors into the home opening as he led both of you inside. You continued to cry until he eventually led you to his room.
Hanzo released you then, placing you down on your feet only for you to try and bolt away from him a few seconds later. Hanzo quickly grabbed you by your forearm before you even reached the door, and pulled you further back into the room.
“Hanzo stop!” You yanked your arm, but he did not let go. “Stop Hanzo! Why are you doing this? Please! Genji is your brother! I am your sist—”
You couldn’t finish when Hanzo turned to you, more furious than you have ever seen a man before. “You are not my sister! You are my wife! And I will consummate this marriage tonight!”
What did he say?
His wife?... Consummate?
You screamed.
Is there a dark trait you like to interweave into your dark characters? Is there something in particular that draws you to this characteristic?
I enjoy dark!characters that have yandere and delusional characteristics, and I like to sum up the reason why as my intense fear and guilt to be in an actual irl relationship to which I use fanfics to create characters that would love the reader and be with her against her consent.
Which story did you struggle to complete? The one that made you drag your feet to finish.
I consider my story, 'Hunger' to be the most struggling to write. I initially wrote that just to let out my sexual frustrations, but a lot of feedback has been about the plot... That I've barely made outside of a few important events. With that, there's been some pressure to speed up the pacing. Also, fun fact: 'Hunger' was originally supposed to be an Overwatch fanfic.
Do you have a mutual who will hold your hand and support you when you’re doubting yourself? Do you have one who will truthfully and honestly help you grow as a writer?
@americasass81 has been there for me a lot when I've been at my worst doubting myself, and the sweetest part about it was that she reached out to me on her own accord usually after I post a rant. She is incredible and literally carrying this community on her back--we don't deserve her.
As for who helped me grow as a writer, I definitely confided with @darkdrabblings back when I first got into Overwatch fanfiction. We would throw each other headcanon ideas and all that, and she really did support me a lot. Since then, I don't really have a lot of conversations about my writing with other people.
Do you have a story that contains personal or important details from an experience that is your own?
My first story that I wrote on FFN, 'Nothing More, Nothing Less', was written when I was severely depressed, with a female protagonist that reflected me and my life. 'A Thousand Suns' is another one in which the protagonist's background would be similar to my own.
The X-Men and the member they lost - Chapter 3
Summary: What do you get when you mix Hayward and the Xmen? A pissed off Erik that's seriously trying to not murder the man!
Previous parts: Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6, Chapter 7, Chapter 8,
Chapter 3: The Maximoff Anomaly
They had settled in fast. The older man that had intercepted them was called Hayward. He seemed very distraught at their arrival and made them go into an unused building. The director hadn’t listened to their protesting, he preferred having them out of the way. For what ever reason, Erik wasn’t sure. They soon realized that time worked differently in this universe. While they had already seen the episode and moved on, it had just ended as they arrived. Charles had told him with amusement that Hank would go crazy over the possibilities. Thankfully, the bunker contained televisions that monitored the town and the broadcast. Hayward had deemed necessary to make sure only people close to him knew of their arrival. They were all sitting around a table when he demanded their story. Charles spoke up. “We’re not from your Earth,” he started.
The director had looked at Kurt with a raised eyebrow, “I had that much figured.”
The professor continued, “two weeks back, one of our members went missing and the broadcast was all we could find. Our universe seems to be ahead of you with the episodes, but we are behind in years.”
“How so?” Questioned the woman sitting next to Erik.
“To us, it’s the eighties.” Charles waited a few moments, letting the people around some time to understand. “We come from a world where people are born with mutations, Kurt here can teleport.” The teenager looked at the professor, silently asking for permission to show his powers. Charles nodded and the blue mutant teleported from one side of the room to another. Hayward seemed shocked as the rest of the people gasped. Charles continued, “this is Raven, she can shapeshift.” Erik smirked as Mystique changed into a perfect copy of the director, making him jump out of his chair in surprise. She turned back into her human form and watched with amusement as Hayward slowly sat back down, eyeing her with caution. Probably seeing how unsettled the agents were, Charles decided to end this quickly. “I can personally read mind and Erik can control metal.”
Erik rolled his eyes as the military people looked at them with wide eyes. He wasn’t going to demonstrate his powers; he had done enough of that with Shaw. The team seemed to get the message that there would be no more demonstrations and moved on.
“So,” said the lady next to the director, “why are you here? Other than the broadcast.”
“Oh well, like I’ve mentioned before, we had a member of our team go missing.” The professor wheeled himself close to a screen and rewound the episode to when Peter appeared. “You see this young man? This is Peter, we had no clue where he went. We watched the broadcast in hopes for answers and we finally found him. Though in a tighter spot than we’d expected, but he does have a knack for trouble.”
Erik smirked at the joke; the speedster had always found himself in the strangest place at the wrong time. He was basically a magnet for trouble.
The director broke the silence. “So, this is not Pietro Maximoff?”
Erik shook his head, deciding to speak up at last, “no, he is not your Pietro, this is Peter Maximoff; my son.”
Hayward seemed surprised that someone other than Charles had spoken. “Is he like you all, enhanced?”
“Yes, he is a mutant,” answered Raven, clearly uncomfortable about the man’s tone. “He has superspeed.”
The director closed his eyes and sighed before turning to his colleague. “Bring the files concerning the Maximoff anomaly, they need to know.” The woman nodded and left the compound. He turned to the other members that hadn’t done much but gape at them and ordered them out. Apparently, he didn’t want people to witness what was about to happen. That left the man alone with the X-men. “Look, I get what you people can do, you barge in and act on an impulse; fix what you think is a threat and leave the rest of us to deal with the mess you leave behind. You might think you’re right, but this is my base.” Erik tensed up at the man’s words, this speech being all too familiar. “I don’t want you meddling in my stuff, Wanda Maximoff is a threat that needs to be dealt with no matter the price. You can go get your friend after.”
It was now official; he hated this man.
Though, before he could show him just how much he despised him, his colleague came back. She didn’t react to the lack of personnel, perhaps she had been expecting it. She was holding a significant number of files and what seemed to be a tv remote. Hayward thanked her and opened a file labeled ‘confidential’. It showed a picture of Wanda. Only she seemed younger, and her hair were a dark brown; there was also a man with bleached blonde hair at her side. They were in a crowd of people, their faces twisted in rage as they seemed to yell to something the picture didn’t show.
“This is Wanda Maximoff, back when she joined a Nazi base and accepted to be experimented on. This is how she got her powers.”
“Director, with all due respect, I believe your thoughts betray you,” interrupted Charles, to the man’s frustration. “I think it’s important to complete your statement and precise that she didn’t know what she was getting herself into.”
Erik secretly praised his friend and his telepathy; Hayward was obviously trying to antagonize the woman. It was obvious they now had to take his version of events with a grain of salt.
“Yes...” grunted the director, obviously upset about being caught in a lie. He pointed to the other man in the picture, “this is Pietro Maximoff, Wanda’s twin, the real one. He too had superspeed.”
He switched on a screen that was flatter than any television Erik had ever seen. It showed Wanda and Pietro in what appeared to be a lab. There was a sort of casket all plugged in with tubes. The pair seemed to be arguing with two older men. There was no audio, so their discussion didn’t make much sense. Suddenly, a blue blur raced through the lab, removing all the tubes in mere seconds. The blonde man stopped next to the casket looking thing and threw the last tube on the floor. It was strange, seeing another version of his son. Their powers were very similar yet very different. While Peter’s trail was silver, Pietro’s was blue, he also left some blue energy lingering in the air. It lasted a few seconds as he stopped before it disappeared. From the few dates in the documents and video, this Quicksilver seemed to have developed his powers only for a few months. It was probably why he seemed to be a little slower than his son. Hayward spoke again.
“The twins were working against the Avengers, those in charge of defending our planet. There was an army of robots threatening to destroy the world, they had sided with the robot in charge.” He glanced quickly at Charles. “They eventually changed sides, but Pietro didn’t survive.”
The footage changed to show a man and a child trying to take cover as a trail of bullets grew nearer. Suddenly, they were out of harm’s way and the speedster was in their place. His shirt was riddled with holes that quickly soaked with blood and he fell to the ground, dead. Fear seized Erik as he watched the man fall to the ground; momentarily seeing Peter in his place. Would a similar thing have happened had Mystique not disguised herself as one of the horsemen?
Hayward continued, showing footage of Wanda fighting in a group against other people, explaining how this event had led to the Sokovia accords, which was nothing more than a differently named mutant registration act. Except this one was actually approved. She had refused to sign and went into hiding, only to resurface when a titan had attacked the Earth. He apparently needed something called infinity stones, one of which was in Vision’s head. From the next chain of event Hayward told them, the titan had apparently succeeded in retrieving the stone. The real mystery was how the Vision was back to life; the director insisted that it was Wanda who resurrected him. She had been blipped, like half of the universe, and had came back grief stricken and ready to do anything to have a perfect family life. She had taken an entire town hostage and made them into her puppets. There was no telling what she might do to achieve her goal. Apparently kidnapping an alternate universe version of her brother wasn’t out of her reach. As Hayward continued telling them about Wanda’s life and what she had done, Erik had only one pressing thought: just how powerful was Wanda?
“How many people are in this town?” Wondered Charles.
“A little more than three thousand. They’re not all casted as roles, most are simply background characters.”
The wheelchair bound man nodded in comprehension. “Have you identified them all? Warned their families?”
He shook his head. “I believe it’s in everyone’s interest if we keep this low, we don’t want to alarm anyone. Especially when the world just came back.”
“You idiot,” raged Raven, “if they can’t reach their loved ones, they will ask questions. They will panic. Your logic is awfully flawed.”
“This is not your dimension, you don’t get to tell me what to do,” argued Hayward, clearly annoyed with them. “I will try to urge the identification process, but you people stay here. I don’t want more superpowered people and their associates getting in my way.”
With that, the man just left the place, followed by his colleague. Whether it was intentional or not, they left their documentation behind. Erik took one of the many files from the pile and opened it. This one described Vision’s origin and whereabouts until he had been destroyed in-
“Charles,” he said, not taking his eyes off the numbers. “This here says that the android died in 2018, five years ago.”
“We traveled 40 years in the future?” Said Kurt, understandably a little overwhelmed by the situation.
Raven put a comforting hand on the teleporter’s shoulder before looking at her friend. Her eyes showed how the situation affected her just as much as it did them. He didn’t blame her; Erik wasn’t sure if he truly grasped the gravity of the implications yet. For now, he preferred to focus on Wanda and her past; the more he knew about her, the better of a chance they’d have to retrieve his son safely and unharmed. The later wasn’t looking too hopeful. From his own experience with mind control and the co-worker’s reaction to being awoken, Peter would likely have a long and painful recovery once he would be back to himself. He just hoped that the differences between their timelines meant that he hadn’t been controlled since he had gone missing. Perhaps, by some luck, he would have arrived a little before he appeared on screen. He didn’t let himself think of what the speedster could have endured before being put under the woman’s spell. Especially if he had been her puppet for the entire two weeks he had disappeared.
“Erik,” interrupted Charles, “I can hear your concerns and I can assure you; your son is a fighter. His mutation is a natural telepath repellent, he’ll be just fine.”
The man smiled at his friend’s words, momentarily comforted. But then, a terrible thought creeped into his head. “Then tell me, old friend, if he is so immune; what horrible torture would he have to go under, so that his mental shield would be lowered enough for him to be vulnerable?”
The silence that followed his statement seemed to confirm that no one had even considered how Peter could be controlled in the first place. They had been too panicked at seeing the young man on the screen and then focused on getting to him to even think of the logic of his newly casted role.
“B-but he’ll be alright,” stammered Kurt, his tail anxiously twitching behind him, swinging, and curling unto itself. “He’s Peter, he always comes out alright.”
Charles smiles weakly at his student, “of course he will, Kurt,” he reassured him, “but we will have to give him time to heal and let him do the first steps when he’ll be ready.”
Erik shared a worried look with Raven, the professor seemed hopeful that the speedster would turn out fine, but he didn’t seem to realize how ahead he was thinking. They were on a military base that had studied for nine days this seemingly all powerful being that didn’t let you in without her consent and a rewrite of your life. And they hadn’t gotten far. From what they had learned, Peter would not be free of Wanda’s control unless she herself brought down the dome. But how could a grief-stricken mutant with powers never seen before just give up what she perceived as the perfect life she deserved?
...
They had stayed up late, learning about Wanda’s past and being horrified at what she had to go through. Erik wasn’t sure how he felt about the woman. She had gone through awful events, a struggle similar to his own. He did feel pity towards her, but he couldn’t look past the fact that she had his son playing her twisted game. The group had eventually settled down for the night, sleeping as good as they could without beds or blankets. They were suddenly awoken by some agitation on the base. Charles stared off into the distance before turning to his team, “Hayward has kicked off people from the base that were being disrespectful to him, now he’s coming our way.”
Indeed, barely fifteen seconds after he had spoken, the director opened the door. He seemed annoyed. “I’m just here to tell you that a new episode should air in the next twenty minutes.”
The blue teen looked at the man, “what happened outside just now?”
His question apparently wasn’t a welcome one since Hayward clenched his jaw in frustration. He answered nonetheless, “I got rid of nuisances. Nothing that concerns you or your team.”
That shut the boy up, but Raven stepped in front of him protectively. “You don’t get to talk to him like that, or to any of us.”
The director narrowed his eyes at her. “You should be thankful,” he snarked, “I could have you all arrested and locked up for the rest of your days, along with your little friend. Yet I haven’t even told anyone about your presence. I’ve been more than benevolent. So, I suggest you watch your mouth.”
Rage built up in Erik, he had heard these words so many times from government figures that disguised their hatred by saying what they could have done but didn’t. The metal bender was well aware that men like him wouldn’t hesitate to sell them out for a raise. What he didn’t appreciate was the way he threatened to imprison Peter as soon as they would get him free from Wanda’s control. Erik felt the metal in the man’s outfit and forced him closer, bringing him at his level. A sliver of fear was seen for a split second in Hayward’s eyes and a feeling of satisfaction crept into his chest. That man was a coward. “You listen to me,” he growled, “we can take out this base in seconds if we feel like it. I’ve seen your kind before, you crush others to rise in rank, but deep down you’re scared. You’re terrified because you’re aware that you are nothing. And if you drop your facade even for a second, they will see you for what you truly are. So, you take out the competition before it even has a chance to realize its potential. But guess what? You’ve met your match because I see you for what you truly are.” He paused as he stared into the man’s eyes. It was a competition of stares that lasted for a few seconds. Erik’s unwavering gaze pierced through the man’s pitiful attempt at intimidation without much effort. Finally, he let his grip go and kept his ground as Hayward took a few steps back. “Here’s a deal, little man, stay out of our way and we’ll stay out of yours.”
The director glared at him and then switched to the other people in the room, probably wondering if the threats he had said had a chance of becoming reality. Whatever he concluded, Erik didn’t know, but the man left the room fuming. The room was silent for a few seconds before Charles wheeled himself closer. He was about to speak but the metal bender beat him to it. “Don’t try to reason with me, old friend, that man had it coming. I only spoke the truth.”
The bald man shook his head. “Yes, you are right, and I don’t blame you for this, but perhaps threatening the director of the base we’re staying in wasn’t the greatest idea?”
Before he could argue, Raven intervened, “I think you did good. It’s been a while since I had seen one of your Magneto speeches; that Stryker knock off deserved it.”
He snorted at her comparison; Hayward was very similar to their own impersonation of the anti-mutant feeling back home. Kurt seemed a little unsettled by Erik’s speech. But he didn’t have time to make sure the teen was alright. Suddenly, the television in their little bunker flickered on; a new episode was starting. They all scrambled to sit down as the screen showed one of the twins running around with a camera in his hands. The upbeat intro song was echoing through the room.
‘Wanda!
WandaVision!
Don’t try to fight the chaos
Don’t question what you’ve done
The game can try to play us
Don’t let it stop the fun’
He opened the bathroom door, showing Wanda brushing her teeth; she also had rollers in her hair. She closed the door with her magic and Tommy ran downstairs to Vision who was reading the newspaper.
‘Some days, it’s all confusion
Easy come and easy go’
Erik watched the screen anxiously as the family members were shown, what would she make her son do?
‘But if it’s all illusion
Sit back, enjoy the show!’
The twin went in the kitchen, their neighbor was looking in the fridge. After a distasteful close up of the woman’s behind, Tommy was now headed for outside.
‘Let’s keep it going
Through each distorted day
Let’s keep it going
Though there may be no way of knowing
Who’s coming by to play’
A blur came out from the house and Erik’s stomach twisted as his son appeared on screen. He was wearing a grey and black shirt and jeans shorts. He briefly stopped in front of the camera and pulled his tongue out like some sort of rock star. He ran out of the shot and came back holding the long-haired twin under one arm. The screen froze to simulate a family picture being taken. The logo ‘WandaVision’ in red and yellow hues.
“Pietro Maximoff as himself?” remarked Raven unimpressed. “Really?”
Erik didn’t react to her voice; he was all too focused on his son. While he didn’t seem that different than usual, he couldn’t help but notice his hair. His usual silver mess of hair were now a bleached blonde. He stared at the screen in disbelief.
This woman had taken away one of Peter’s most unique traits, a part of his personality, to fit her narrative.
He continued looking at the screen with a mix of rage and anxiety. If she had changed him so easily to fulfill her illusion; there was no telling what else she could do if she found out he wasn’t truly her brother.
Thoughts about Endgame’s time travel and what it could mean for Loki
So I know a million and a half YouTubers and fans have already tread this ground before me, but I haven’t really read too many theories/explanations about time travel in the MCU (according to Endgame), and having just rewatched it, I wanted to jot down a few of my own thoughts about it.  Strap in, guys - this is gonna be a long one.
The main time travel rule that Endgame seems to establish is this:
You cannot change your own past.  Changing your past will not change your own present or future.
Okay, so this is a fair rule for time travel. If you travel to the past and change something, it will (presumably***) create an alternate timeline, but it will NOT change your own timeline.
However, things get...complicated from there.
1. The Ancient One’s explanation of time travel intersects with the infinity stones (i.e. the infinity stones are special)
When the Ancient One is explaining her view of time travel to Bruce, she says:
The Infinity Stones create what you experience as the flow of time.  Remove one of the stones, and that flow splits.
Now, this may benefit your reality, but my new one, not so much.  In this new branch reality, without our chief weapon against the forces of darkness, our world would be overrun.
She illustrates it with a very interesting visual:
Tumblr media
Now, to be fair, this sort of timeline is pretty common for visualizing time travel (that scene in Back to the Future 2 comes to mind), BUT I just think it’s interesting that it looks very similar to a visual we’ve seen in the Loki trailers at the TVA:
Tumblr media
This is the first mention that Endgame makes of alternate/branching realities, which is intriguing.  Because I just assumed that even though you couldn’t change the past in the MCU’s version of time travel, any change to the past would create an alternate reality.
This explanation, however, seems to imply that you can only create an alternate timeline by messing with the infinity stones in that timeline.
Bruce’s response supports that theory:
We can erase [the alternate timeline].  Because once we’re done with the stones, we can return each one to its own timeline, at the moment it was taken.  So, chronologically, in that reality, it never left.
Again, Bruce only talks about their removal of the infinity stones here - not any other changes they make to the timeline (which they’ve clearly already made).
So, my interpretation of this is twofold:
Messing with infinity stones in the past creates an alternate/branching timeline, because it disrupts the flow of time created by the infinity stones.
Messing with anything in the past that is not an infinity stone does not create an alternate timeline.  Either 1) it doesn’t change anything at all (i.e. when the time travel “ends,” the past gets “reset” to how it always was); 2) the changes somehow “merge” with the main timeline; or 3) the “changes” were actually a closed loop - it had always been this way, and we (the audience) just didn’t know it.
2. 2012!Loki escaping with the Tesseract
Now we get to our favorite God of Mischief, Loki, and his escape with the Space Stone in 2012.
By escaping with the Tesseract in 2012 (when he obviously did not do that in the OG Timeline), Loki specifically displaced an infinity stone from its proper place in the timeline.
Now, let’s look at how Mobius, in the second Loki trailer, seems to frame Loki’s actions (remember that this is a trailer clip and the lines could’ve been edited):
[The TVA] protects the proper flow of time.  You picked up the Tesseract, breaking reality.  I want you to help us fix it.
Tumblr media
This seems to support the theory that Loki displacing the Tesseract created alternate realities and disrupted the “proper flow of time” (i.e. the OG Timeline).  The phrase “breaking reality” is very interesting as well, implying that Loki’s actions didn’t just create alternate timelines, but specifically created bad ones.
3. 2014!Thanos, Nebula, and Gamora being displaced in 2023
So, now we come to the next big timeline screw-up: the fact that Thanos’ army from 2014 - including Thanos himself, Nebula, Gamora, and the Black Order - are all displaced from 2014 to 2023.
Everyone from 2014 except Gamora dies in the final battle.  Now, it seems crazy that this wouldn’t create an alternate timeline.  If there’s no more Thanos in 2014, then there wouldn’t be a Thanos to collect all of the infinity stones and Snap in 2018, right?
But if we’re going by the Ancient One’s rules, then it shouldn’t create an alternate timeline because it didn’t involve an infinity stone in 2014.  Instead, there are 3 possibilities:
The time travel didn’t change the past at all.  The way this would play out is that Thanos and Co. would leave 2014 and rejoin the timeline in 2023.  But the moment that the time travel “ended” (i.e. the moment that Thanos’ army was through the Quantum Realm), the past timeline reset back to what it had been originally.  So even though past versions of Thanos and Co. fought the Avengers in 2023, if someone (for example, Steve Rogers) were to return to 2014, they would still find Thanos and Co. in 2014, alive and kicking.  I think that this is the most likely scenario.
The changes made through time travel merge with the main timeline.  Now, I can see this happening with minor changes (for example, Steve and Tony stealing Pym particles from the 1970s), but huge ones like Thanos and Co. just not being alive?  I don’t know how that would “merge” with the main timeline.  So, IMO, this is probably not a likely possibility.
The “changes” were actually a closed loop - the past was always this way.  This clearly doesn’t work for 2014 Thanos and Co., unless there is some power like the TVA intervening to fix changes to the timeline which aren’t caused by infinity stones, in order to prevent alternate timelines from being created.  Under this scenario, Thanos and Co. were always meant to time travel from 2014 to 2023, and they did do that in the OG Timeline.  But unbeknownst to us (the audience), the TVA stepped in and “replaced” the missing Thanos and Co. members in 2014 with alternate versions of them, preserving the timeline.  In my opinion, if we’re going by the rule that changes to the past not related to infinity stones don’t create alternate timelines, then this possibility also doesn’t make much sense (in most scenarios - stay tuned).
4. Steve returning the stones
At the end of Endgame, Steve travels in time to (presumably) fulfill Bruce’s promise to the Ancient One - to return each infinity stone to the moment it was taken, thus erasing any alternate timeline that may have been created.
BRUCE: Remember, you have to return the stones to the exact moment you got them, or you’re gonna open up a bunch of nasty alternative realities.
STEVE: Don’t worry, Bruce.  Clip all the branches.
However, there is one wrinkle to this: the Tesseract that they lost to Loki in 2012.  This is the singular infinity stone-related screw-up that Steve isn’t able to fix.  The one branch he isn’t able to clip.  Presumably, this is why the TVA arrest and detain Loki and not the Avengers - because Steve’s replacement of the stones worked, and erased all of the other alternate timelines except for one.
Again, this is why I think the infinity stone distinction re: time travel makes the most sense.  Because why else would the TVA only be focused on Loki’s disruption of the timeline when, to the outside observer, the Avengers messed up the timeline a lot more?  Well, the answer is that distinction: all of the ways that the Avengers interfered with the past which weren’t infinity stone-related didn’t create alternate realities, and the Avengers then corrected/erased any alternate realities they did create by returning the stones to the moment they were taken.  Except the Tesseract in 2012.
5. What is up with Old!Steve?
Here is where things get annoying and contradictory.  Now, I can’t remember exactly what explanations for Old!Steve that the Russos and M&M gave, but I know that they conflict with each other (which is...insane, but that’s a whole other rant).
So let’s walk through it.  Before Steve enters the Quantum Realm, Sam asks Bruce how long this is going to take.  Bruce answers:
For him, as long as he needs.  For us, five seconds.
Bruce then says to Steve:
We’ll meet you back here, alright?
Obviously, Steve doesn’t appear after 5 seconds.  But Old!Steve shows up on a bench slightly off-screen by the lake, having lived a full life with Peggy (blegh, I know, it sucks, but I’m just going with it for now).
Since Steve presumably clipped all of the infinity stone branches (except the 2012 Tesseract one), we’re presumably in the realm of no alternate realities.  By living a life with Peggy, he didn’t interfere with or displace an infinity stone (to our knowledge***), so he shouldn’t have created an alternate reality.  Which means that there are, once again, 3 possibilities:
1. The time travel didn’t change the past at all.  This would play out similarly to the 2014 Thanos scenario.  Steve would time travel to the 1950s, marry Peggy, have a life with her in the main timeline (presumably making a ton of changes along the way), and then when his time travel “ended,” the past timeline reset back to what it had been originally (Peggy marrying someone else, etc.).  Now, I still think this scenario is the most likely, based on all of the other things we’ve gone through.  But this is complicated by the fact that Old!Steve doesn’t reappear on the time travel platform, which seems to suggest that he didn’t use the Quantum Realm to time travel to that bench, but instead simply lived until 2023 in the main timeline and knew what day and time to show up at the lake.  So, if that’s the case, then when did Steve’s time travel “end,” and when did the timeline reset?  I would argue that it “ended” the moment that Old!Steve’s life caught up with and surpassed his younger self’s departure in 2023.  So Old!Steve was hobbling along next to the lake, with his past with Peggy still “changed,” up until the moment that young!Steve entered the Quantum Realm.  The moment that happened, Old!Steve ceased to be living in a changed past - he was now living in his own future (the furthest in the timeline he had ever been).  When that happened, the main timeline’s past reset, and Old!Steve’s life with Peggy was erased.
(This one is so complicated, I had to draw a diagram. RIP).
Tumblr media
2. The changes made through time travel merge with the main timeline.  Similarly to the Thanos scenario, I just can’t see this happening because it’s such a major change to the timeline.  How do you merge 2 timelines where Peggy is married to 2 different people?  Still not very likely.
3. The “changes” were actually a closed loop - the past was always this way.  Now, oddly enough, THIS is the scenario that probably makes the most sense for Old!Steve, despite the fact that it definitely doesn’t work for any other non-infinity stone time travel shenanigans.  In this scenario, Steve was always Peggy’s husband in the main timeline (we never did learn who he was), and the past was just a closed loop for him.  He never left the main timeline, which is why he showed up on the bench in Endgame and not on the time travel platform.  However, this also has its weaknesses.  For one, as I mentioned in the 2014 Thanos scenario, in order for this to work and be consistent with other changes, the TVA (or some other higher power) would have to get involved.  And two, this only works if you believe one of 3 scenarios:
Young!Steve, after getting out of the ice, never looked up who Peggy’s husband was, which seems unlikely.
Peggy somehow disguised/hid her husband’s (Old!Steve’s) identity all of these years, so young!Steve never found out (also unlikely, considering how high-profile Peggy was as director of SHIELD).
Young!Steve always knew that he somehow married Peggy, which would be super weird because that would mean that Steve would’ve known about the existence of time travel as early as 2011.
So we’re back to the “closed loop” possibility not making sense (although it is still a possibility).
Personally, I still think that #1 makes the most sense for non-infinity stone related time travel - the timeline doesn’t really change, it just “resets” after the time travel is over.
6. In Conclusion
This is my theory for the rules of time travel in the MCU, as we know them in Endgame (and supported by the Loki trailers):
1. Messing with the infinity stones in the past creates alternate timelines.
2. Messing with anything else in the past does not create alternate timelines.
3. Changes in the past which are not related to infinity stones are temporary, and the main timeline is “reset” to what it was originally after the time travel meddling is “over.”
Again, it is highly likely that this will turn out to be completely incorrect when Loki airs!  But I’m just hoping that we’ll get some sort of explanation, because Endgame is a convoluted mess and we need some rules.
WandaVision: Dissecting the MCU’s Most Successful Superhero Couple
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: I am only using the term WandaVision as the coupling name for Scarlet Witch and Vision. I am not centring this discussion on the upcoming Disney+ series but rather talking about the 6 year build up to it.
Introduction:
Tumblr media
Despite the fact the likes of Hank Pym’s Ant-Man & Janet van Dyne’s Wasp along with Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman are Marvel Comics’ most prominent superhero couples, Scarlet Witch and Vision have always been that “unusual couple” that became a fan-favourite, didn’t diminish either character’s individual stories and, once the two were officially introduced into the MCU in 2015′s Avengers: Age of Ultron, became a hotly anticipated coupling by fans from their somewhat instant connection.
Not only is this comics-accurate love story finally being realised in the MCU, but the fact Kevin Feige feels as passionate about them as fans like I do that he is giving them their own series to shine, along with Wanda herself being involved in the MCU’s next big arc with exploring the Multiverse, I think it is safe to say that WandaVision have outshone the likes of Ant-Man and the Wasp and other couplings to become the MCU’s It couple.
Well, considering Disney+ released a new behind the scenes series called Marvel Legends last week with the first two episodes focusing on Wanda and Vision, despite them being no more than clip-reels of the characters MCU timeline, I wanted to delve in deeper and discuss how characters that were deemed B-worthy enough to be sent to streaming...which suddenly seems like the place to be...have suddenly become the hottest commodities in the MCU.
The Age of Miracles:
Tumblr media
Wanda Maximoff first appeared in the MCU in an mid-credits scene for 2014′s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, adding the cherry on the top of what was already a glorious cake of a movie by unofficially introducing Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Sidebar, this was, at its time, very confusing for fans who believed that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were owned by 20th Century Fox in their X-Men movies. However, after the announcement of the Maximoff twins in the MCU and Quicksilver appearing simultaneously in 2014′s X-Men: Days of Future Past, it was revealed that a deal was made between Fox and Disney that the twins would only have certain traits in either universe.
Tumblr media
For the X-Men movies, they would be Mutants, have their origins as the children of Magneto and...even though this never happened...appear as members of the Brotherhood of Mutants.
Tumblr media
For the MCU, the Maximoff twins are known as enhanced individuals gaining their powers from the Mind Stone after experimentation from HYDRA. There is no mention of them being Mutants, their parents were indirect victims of Stark Industries, and despite Pietro having his original speed physiology powers, Wanda started off with Psionic Manipulation rather than Chaos Magic as her comic-book counterpart has.
However, it has been confirmed by Kevin Feige that Wanda’s shapeless red energy is magic of the same elk to Doctor Strange, just untamed. Meaning the upcoming alternative sitcom reality Wanda has created in WandaVision restoring Vision, could be an application of her latent reality warping powers.
The Maximoff Twins were officially introduced in 2015′s Avengers: Age of Ultron originally as operatives of HYDRA, before moving on to serve Ultron until defecting from him after realising he was evil and joining the Avengers in their fight to save their home country Sokovia.
Tumblr media
Vision meanwhile was officially introduced at the end of the second act for the movie but his predecessor JARVIS was first introduced in Iron Man way back when in 2008...the movie that started it all.
As Tony Stark’s A.I. assistant, JARVIS was stated by Stark to be a top of the range program that runs more of Stark Industries than anyone other than Pepper Potts as CEO. However, when Stark had the ingenious idea to create Ultron...otherwise known as RDJ wanting to steal Hank Pym’s most famous comic-book storyline...as a peacekeeping program to safeguard Earth from extra-terrestrial threats, in typical sci-fi fashion Ultron goes evil and seemingly destroys JARVIS.
However, JARVIS simply retreated into the server only to return after the Avengers acquire Ultron’s recently created synthetic android. The Science Bros. transfer JARVIS’ conscience into the synthetic body and with the help of Thor/s thunder charge Vision was born.
Tumblr media
I have to say also, while superhero movie trailers do get me excited for said superhero movie, seeing the reveal of Vision in the final Age of Ultron trailer gave me that wow factor moment only X-Men trailers usually do.
Comics to Movies:
Tumblr media
As I have always admitted, I am not as in-depth with the comics as the movies. However, Scarlet Witch and Vision are two characters I have followed pretty since I first found out about them in the mid-noughties as a teenager.
But what cemented the two as my favourite Marvel characters overall, from Comics, to Movies to TV, is the literal creation of the twin sons Wiccan and Speed who became key members in the Young Avengers.
Now yes, both characters have had lives separate from each other because, as I said before, they are still their own characters despite being also known as a couple. But while Wanda has had a somewhat twincestuous relationship with her brother in far comics history, and Vision had his own family of synthetic androids including daughter Viv, who was a playable character in Marvel’s Avengers Academy, I find the best in Marvel Comics writing was actually after their twins were reabsorbed into the demon Mephisto as they were fragments of his soul and Wanda went crazy heralding in the House of M.
Tumblr media
Also, not only is Wanda apparently getting her Scarlet Witch moniker either during or after the MCU Multiverse arc, but also a more comics-accurate costume. Up until now Wanda’s costume in the MCU has been they street-casual which does suit the Wanda of Sokovia. Even when she joined the Avengers and got an upgraded costume it did seem more like something someone could wear for a casual day out...as proof, my sister dressed up as the MCU Scarlet Witch by finding clothes in standard clothing stores rather than costume outlets.
My favourite Scarlet Witch outfit to date has been her full-length red gown complete with headdress from the comics, the headdresses of Magneto’s daughters are so iconic that when Polaris crafted her own out of Magneto’s medallion in The Gifted I was fanboying so hard.
Tumblr media
We already know Wanda will be wearing a Halloween costume inspired by her iconic comics suit in WandaVision, but if the Halloween costume looks that impressive, I cannot wait to see what her actual supersuit looks like.
Throughout the MCU:
Right from the start, I really enjoyed both Scarlet Witch and Vision in the MCU, despite Scarlet Witch still not to be known as Scarlet Witch to date in the MCU. But from when we see cameos of Wanda and Pietro as experiments of HYDRA, that one quick shot of Wanda displaying her powers I was sold.
Tumblr media
Vision meanwhile gave himself a somewhat modified version of his comics-accurate cape because he saw Thor had a cape and wanted one. He could also wield Mjølnir, does this make him worthy? It must do despite the Avengers constant mithering about it. If you can wield Mjølnir you’re worthy.
Tumblr media
Talking from a romance perspective, it was a big tease of the two getting together right up until 2018′s Avengers: Infinity War as while it was teased in 2016′s Captain America: Civil War, a romance wasn’t actually shown until we find them in Scotland.
Interestingly enough in the comics, the couple retire to New Jersey rather than Scotland.
Also, like a lot of heroes, both Wanda and Vision seemed to get an upgrade in powers every movie. We always got teases of both their full potentials in the quieter moments like when Pietro died and Wanda, feeling her twin dying, vaporised the surrounding Ultron Sentries in a moment of distraught heartache and when Vision destroyed the last Ultron Sentry.
But it wasn’t until Captain America: Civil War, where we learned that Wanda could control the Mind Stone powering Vision and Vision could easily severely injure another hero and then in Infinity War when either Vision created a human guise for himself or maybe Wanda did, while Wanda not only made short work of Thanos’ army but could also destroy the Mind Stone and, in Endgame take on and possibly defeat Thanos single-handed, that we got a true display of her powers.
Tumblr media
MCU creatives have stated that Scarlet Witch is in fact the most powerful MCU hero after it was originally stated Captain Marvel was, so when Wanda finally upgrades and realises her true potential this should be fully realised making Scarlet Witch the most powerful MCU character.
WandaVision and MCU Future:
Here’s what we know about WandaVision:
Tumblr media
Wanda finds herself in a sitcom television universe potentially of her own making after not only losing Vision, but not forgetting also Wanda has lost her family including her twin brother as well as friends and teammates Black Widow, Captain America and even Iron Man.
For someone who was late-teens early-twenties at the time of Age of Ultron, this makes her late-20s early-30s by the time of this series, my age, and so obviously all of this loss and grief will play havoc on one’s mind let alone everything else she has gone through.
Also Vision is back but I still don’t know to what extent that is, is he only back in this alternate sitcom reality or has Wanda willed him back into existence in the same way that she willed their twin sons into reality in the comics.
Speaking of which, we know the couple have twins in the series as when they’re in their 80s sitcom setting, we see two bassinettes and it’s hinted we will see them as teenagers.
It has to be Wiccan and Speed, it can’t not be. This would be a massive red mark on WandaVision’s scorecard if it isn’t. I have recently heard rumours they could be human-android hybrids to match the parents and someone even suggesting Viv could be one of the twins...but I can’t fathom why if the Young Avengers are coming into play with the confirmation of Kate Bishop, America Chavez and Stature, why these two core characters wouldn’t be at play.
Tumblr media
The other hotly anticipated character introduction is Kathryn Hahn as Agnes...again if this isn’t Agatha Harkness then it is major tease. Agnes is surely an alias for Agatha Harkness who in the comics and even X-Men: Evolution was Scarlet Witch’s mentor for controlling her powers.
The only difference between the two incarnations is in every other version of the character Agatha is an old woman whereas Kathryn Hahn looks like Kathryn Hahn. It will also be great to see Agatha Harkness in a comedic setting as Kathryn Hahn is hilarious.
Tumblr media
We also have returning MCU characters Jimmy Woo, Monica Rambeau and Darcy Lewis added to the series. All three may not be connected or they all could be working for SWORD which is the successor to SHIELD first seen in the post-credits scene for Spider-Man: Far From Home.
I’m thrilled to have Kat Dennings back in the MCU and considering both she and Randall Park have a history in comedy, the sitcom settings should suit them well.
I’m not sure why any of these characters are connected to Scarlet Witch or Vision considering all three are connected to separate heroes Ant-Man, Captain Marvel and Thor respectively, but any excuse to bring them back I’ll take it.
What is also more or less confirmed is the ending of WandaVision will see a massive witch fight between Wanda and Agnes resulting in Wanda tearing a hole in the multiverse starting the Multiverse arc in the MCU which will be picked up in Spider-Man 3 and resolved in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with Wanda set to appear in both movies.
Tumblr media
As for Vision’s fate post WandaVision, it is currently unknown where he will appear next if at all, and it may actually depend on the success of the series, but we know that Wiccan and Speed will become part of the Young Avengers so they’re staying on.
It is also worth noting that in the Young Avengers, a second version of Vision known as Jonas was a member of the team created through Nathaniel Richard’s neurokinetic armor gaining sentience after having Vision’s operating system downloaded into it.
Tumblr media
Nathaniel Richards is a distant relative to Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic who is set to appear in the upcoming Fantastic 4 movie, but is also a time remnant of Kang the Conqueror who is set to appear in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania and may be alluded to in the upcoming Disney+ series Loki.
Nathaniel is also Iron Lad, who forms the Young Avengers as part of the Avengers Fail-Safe program. Do you see how this all ties together?
So basically even if we don’t see this Vision again after WandaVision, we may see Jonas in the Young Avengers.
As for the future for Scarlet Witch post-multiverse, if they are bringing in Wiccan and Speed, I really want the next big arc to be the Children’s Crusade. I know fans want House of M...WandaVision is possibly as close to House of M as we’re going to get.
Tumblr media
Children’s Crusade is how Wiccan and Speed learn about and are reunited with their estranged mother who has lost her memories and is living in wedded bliss with Doctor Doom...who could easily be introduced in said Fantastic 4 movie.
Conclusion:
Tumblr media
Whatever the future holds for Scarlet Witch and Vision, no one can deny that this love story has not only been an organic one, but with it set to be the running theme for WandaVision, this love story is most definitely one for the ages.
So that’s my analysis of the newest superhero superpowered couple currently at play in the MCU, what do you guys think? Is WandaVision a couple for the ages? Will they have a place in the MCU after the upcoming Disney+ series?
Post your comments and check out more MCU Reviews as well as other posts and WandaVision starting this Friday (Jan 15).
Restricted Magic Arc 3 pt 8
On October 13th, 2018 I wrote a short story based on a Fictober challenge. That ended up turning into a 3 arc fantasy adventure story of Erin and Gerald, and my first ever long running series on this blog. Before that I had pretty much only done short stories. Unfortunately about a third of the way through the last arc, I hit major writer’s block, and abandoned the story.
Until now.
2 years later, I’m posting a new part. I won’t promise steady or frequent updates to this, but I am going to definitely try to finish this story. It was one of my favorites, and I want everyone to be able to enjoy it to the end with me.
Masterpost is linked here.
Arc 3 pt 7 linked here in case you want a quick refresher on where I left off.
Enjoy!
“We’re running out of time.”
Elsinore whispered to herself, crossing her arms across her chest as she shivered with cold. Her fingers dug into her arms, the skin breaking along the tips of her nails. Rivulets of blood ran down, soaking the sleeve of her prison uniform, the pain of the injury dulled by her inner panic. Pacing back and forth around her cell, she stepped in the fluid dripping off her clothes, tracking red footprints on the well-worn floor.
The illusion of Sophia sat on her bed, watching her with a bored expression. “Pretty sure we have nothing but time, living contained in a cell like this.”
“SHUT UP!” Elsinore glared at her sister’s image. “You heard her! Erin is going to MERION!” She threw up her hands. “Merion! Why would she do this to me? I swore never to return there!”
“Is that what happened?” Sophia tapped a finger to her cheek, “Why do I seem to remember that you were banished?” She grinned, jumping to her feet and walking towards her. Her ghostly image tracked over the pooled blood without disturbing it. “But sure, you can pretend it was your choice to not return. Definitely not your punishment for betraying the country… and selling me to the Devil.”
Elsinore clutched her head, trying to ignore the voice of her dead sister, knowing it was her own illusion magic, her own delusion. “Roderick is planning something… why else would he bring her there of all places? No! We have to kill him before its too late!”
“Is that what you told my daughter?”
“She’s betrayed me.” Elsinore paced faster, her eyes wildly looking around the room. “She’s lost focus. So many years. So many sacrifices. And now she’s forgotten everything and abandoned me?!”
“You mean she’s finally looked to a future beyond killing her father? Wanting to survive, get married, have a life that’s about more than just one horrible man?”
“IT’S ABOUT AVENGING HER MOTHER’S MURDER!” Elsinore screamed at the figment of her imagination. “AVENGING YOUR DEATH! THAT’S ALL THAT MATTERS!”
“Elsinore…”
“SHUT UP!” She waved a blood stained hand, unsure if the dripping fluid was real or not, her gaze focusing inwards. “I haven’t lost sight of the goal. If she won’t kill him.”
“Sister…”
“Then I will. “
There was a moment of tense silence, broken finally by the screams of the guards outside.
“Fire!”
“The whole building’s burning!”
“Here, this way!”
The door to her cell opened, several armed men ran in, their eyes wide, staring at nothing. Elsinore smiled, spreading her hands widely.
“Why thank you, gentlemen. You’ve served your purpose beautifully.”
The men looked at each other with confused expressions, that slowly changed into ones of horror as their minds fell prey to her magic.
“The witch escaped! Don’t think you can run away!” Facing off, they drew their weapons, each striking the other accurately, and slumping to the ground. Even as they died, their faces were confused, unsure of what was real and what was not.
“Illusion is so close to reality, isn’t it.” Elsinore chuckled, stepping over their quickly cooling bodies and walking out the door. “You really shouldn’t be fooled by such simple lies.”
“You’re one to talk!” The image of her dead sister snorted with laughter, but she ignored her.
“Let’s go.”
She walked down the hallway, her pace casual, unhurried as if she were walking in her own home on her way to tea rather than a bloody hellhole.
Along the way she was attacked several times. They never got near her, striking uselessly in the air as they were caught in her magic again and again. One man brushed passed her, and slumped with shock as she restricted his magic. He had time to scream in fear before dying under the confused attacks from his fellow guards.
The building was burning around her, the heat singing her hair as she passed by.
Elsinore passed by the bodies, the carnage, the destruction of her captors, and she quietly began to laugh.
“Sister…” The illusion of Sophia tried to reach out, but Elsinore could no longer hear her as her laughter grew louder and louder.
She walked out of the door, turning briefly to enjoy the sight of the government building that had been her prison going up in flames.
The fire burned brightly against the quickly darkening sky, the smoke filling the area. Elsinore watched it with fascination, unsure if it were truly burning or not. The guards had fired multiple blasts of flames, it was possible that one of them had begun it accidentally, destroying her former prison. But it could still be her illusion magic, Elsinore simply wasn’t sure.
Not that it mattered either way.
Beyond the crackle of the flames there were no other sounds, everyone else beside Elsinore was dead. She leaned her head back, taking a deep breath to calm herself as her laughter died out.
“Roderick… I’m coming for you.”
Finally he would pay for his sins.
Only then would she truly be free.
Olivia and Frederick sat in the front car of the magical transport, each enjoying the trip in their own way.
Olivia was looking out the glass window, watching the scenery as the large metal locomotive moved forward, skimming across the sand as if it were as slick as ice. Resting her chin on one palm, she was a picture of calm. However, every once and a while she would shoot an annoyed glance further into the metal car where a banging noise could be heard.
“Frederick I swear, if you break this transport and we have to walk to Merion, I will destroy you.”
CLANG!
An even louder noise filled the small space, as if to mock her threatening words, and a grease-stained Frederick poked his head up from a small compartment in the floor where he had been happily working.
“Really, you will destroy me?” he grinned. “You and what army?”
Olivia studied her nails, ignoring his sarcasm. “It’s strange…I seem to remember during our last sparring session one of us being defeated… badly.” She tapped her chin thoughtfully. “Like, so badly it was humiliating.”
“Ugh, please don’t…”
“I wonder who that was again?” Her grin was vicious.
Frederick glared. “Fine. Point taken. But keep in mind, I’m not breaking anything!”
“Really? That banging noise I heard was you just passively observing?”
“No, but all I’m doing is trying to get a closer look at this mechanism.” His eyes brightened. “It’s incredible to see a magical artifact like this, something so huge but it moves so smoothly!”
With one hand gesturing further down into the space below the floor, he continued to excitedly explain. “A level 5 earth artifact like this is the stuff dreams are made of. It actually combines several different magics involving the connection between the vehicle and the ground as well as speed adjustment, terrain variability…”
“STOP!” Olivia gave up. “It’s so boring. Please don’t make me listen to another hour long lecture on the wonders of artifacts!”
“This isn’t just an artifact!” He argued back. “This is a work of art!”
“Still boring.”
“How about we compromise? You listen to me gush about how awesome this artifact is, and in return, I’ll let you talk as long as you want about a topic you want.”
“Fashion.”
He winced at her immediate answer. “Really?”
“It’s that or we talk about the many horrifying and disgusting ways the human body can break down and how to fix them with healing magic.”
“…” Frederick sat their silently with a pained expression.
“Well?”
“I’m thinking, I’m thinking!” He gave a long sigh. ”Fine. Fashion it is.”
Olivia rubbed her hands together. “This will be fun!”
“Okay, but first I get to talk about this artifact.”
“Deal.” She stuck out her hand, which Frederick grasped and shook briefly.
“So, the first thing I love about the mechanism of this particular artifact…”
“Hey you guys!” Christopher interrupted Frederick’s impassioned words as he walked into the car with a pleasant smile. “Enjoying the trip so far?”
Frederick and Olivia didn’t turn to face him. Frederick looked back down at the hatch with a frown, while Olivia pulled out a filing board and began touching up her nails. Neither bothered to respond.
“It looks like you were studying the engine?” Christopher noticed the open hatch in the floor, his cheerful expression fading a little. “That could be very dangerous, I really wouldn’t advise that.”
“Don’t tell me what to do.” Frederick snorted with laughter. “I know what I’m doing. If I want your opinion on something that you actually know something about, I’ll ask for it.” Rubbing his head with one hand, a trail of grease was left on his forehead.
Olivia pulled out a handkerchief, cleaning him off. “That’s bold of you, assuming he knows something about any topic.”
“Don’t be silly!” Frederick flinched at her scrubbing, but rolled his eyes and finished letting her clean off his face. “He knows a lot about a ton of different subjects!”
“Like what?”
“How about flirting with everything that moves like a dog in heat?”
She nodded solemnly. “You’re right! How could I have forgotten?”
“There’s also harp playing.”
“How about fiancé stealing?”
“Puppy murdering?”
“Hey!” Christopher broke into their back and forth with a frustrated groan. “I thought we had agreed to put that awful nickname behind us?”
Frederick nodded seriously. “You’re right. It was getting old. We need a new one anyways.”
“That’s not what I…” He trailed off, shaking his head. “Never mind. I’m looking for Erin. Where is she?”
Olivia and Frederick glanced at each other, and then answered simultaneously.
“She died.”
“Who’s Erin?”
Christopher’s face was twitching, he seemed to force himself to hold a friendly expression.
“Guys, can you tone down the hostility? I’m her fiancé. It’s not like I’m trying to hurt her.”
“You think this is hostility?” Frederick laughed. “That’s cute.”
“I’m really a friendly guy once you get to know me.”
Olivia laughed. “Just keep telling yourself that, Kitten Killer.”
“Ooh I like the new nickname!” Frederick politely applauded.
“I thought the alliteration would give it a certain flair.”
“It certainly did.”
“WE’RE GETTING OFF TOPIC!” Christopher’s voice was raised. He paused, seemingly shocked at the crack in his normally impervious polite mask. Clearing his throat uncomfortably, he continued in a more reasonable tone. “Look. I’m just asking a simple question. Do you know where Erin is, or not?”
Olivia stood up, her face grim. “I’ve been wanting to say this for a while.” Her finger raised in the air, poking Christopher’s chest hard enough to force him to step back. “Erin is a better person then you or I will ever be. She’s my best friend in the whole world and I would crawl naked over broken glass before betraying her again. So no, I don’t know where she is, I will never know where she is.” She glared. “At least as far as you’re concerned.”
Christopher stared back at her, confused. “What do you mean again?”
“Olivia, you don’t have to tell him…” Frederick tried to interrupt, but Olivia quickly took over.
“No. He should understand this.” She turned back towards the golden haired young man with a frown. “I made a mistake. I let myself be used by Erin’s enemies. I used an artifact to steal other people’s powers and let her take the blame. I even kidnapped…”
“YOU USED WHAT?!” His earlier calm completely erased, Christopher reached out and grabbed Olivia’s shoulders, shaking her back and forth, silencing her. “You stole other’s powers, leeched their magic, and she FORGAVE you?” He snorted derisively, his face still red with rage. “Impossible. She must not have realized what you were doing! Otherwise she would have left you, there’s no way…”
BAM!
Frederick had moved, almost faster than the eye could follow, and pushed Christopher away from Olivia, slamming him back against the wall of the transport. His fist slammed against the wall, fire magic blazing around his fingers.
“Don’t. Touch. Her.” Frederick looked calm, but his eyes showed the anger just underneath the surface.
“What, no quippy jokes?” Christopher raised an eyebrow, seemingly unconcerned by the burning fist mere inches away from his face. “How unlike you.”
“Just keep going in this direction, and I’ll give you something to laugh about.”
The young man sighed, looking tired. “Fine, fine, I can take a hint. I’ll go away. You can stop threatening to set my hair on fire.”
Frederick stepped away slowly, the flames around his hand sputtering out, and Christopher turned and left through the door towards the next car without another word.
“…” Olivia stepped forward, a complex expression on her face. “Thanks for that.”
“No problem.” Frederick shrugged with a grin. “It’s not your fault you’re so weak that you get bullied by everyone else… but it’s more fun if I’m the one who gets to do it.”
“…”
“Olivia?”
BAM!
“OW!”
_____________________
“You okay?” Gerald reached over from his seat across hers and held Erin’s hand between his own. They had grabbed their own passenger car after Frederick loudly complained about their public display of affection blunting his cynicism and hatred for the world. Erin had rolled her eyes at the time, but was now appreciating the space. The car was quiet, with only the low rumble of the engine moving the transport to break the silence.
She shrugged, staring out the window as the land raced past.
“I’m not sure what’s ahead, but worrying about it won’t change anything. We have to face it.”
“Hey at least the worst is behind us.” At his words, she turned to look at him incredulously.
“What do you mean?”
“EXAMS ARE OVER!” He pumped his fist in the air, a goofy smile on his face. “I’m so happy we survived.”
Erin sighed. “Even ignoring the fact that you somehow have placed exams as the worst thing after we have faced murderers, assassins and entire ARMIES together… you do realize we still have to take final exams at the end of the year before we can graduate?”
“…” Gerald stared at her, looking shocked.
“You forgot, didn’t you?”
His only answer was a sad groan. Chuckling, Erin patted his cheek. “Don’t worry, I’ll help you prepare.”
“Well at least there’s that.”
They sat in companionable silence for a few moments, both watching the scenery from the window.
“Gerald, I’m worried.” She leaned her head on his shoulder, taking comfort in his warmth.
“What’s wrong?”
“I think I’m starting to lose control.” She rubbed her forehead. “It used to be easy to keep things hidden, keep things restricted, but now… It’s like something is unbalanced inside me. How many times have I destroyed whole buildings since we’ve returned?”
“I mean, I’m just saying, if your father and that brat of a fake fiancé would leave you alone you could stop rearranging the school architecture, …”
“Maybe it’s from using Aunt Elsinore’s magic for so long… maybe it’s something else. I don’t know…”
“Well maybe we can ask her… have you heard anything from Aunt Elsinore?” Gerald asked her quietly.
Erin shook her head. “No, not since our last conversation, even though I’ve tried several times to contact her.” Her hands curled into fists. “Do you think…”
“Think what?”
“Think my father got to her?” She closed her eyes. “She’s never been out of reach before… and now I worry…”
“Erin…”
“That she’ll end up just like my mother.”
“ERIN!” At Gerald’s shout her eyes sprang open. The window next to them was cracked, the seat around her torn to shreds. It looked as if a storm had raged in the tiny passenger cabin. Erin stared around her, feeling shocked.
“You see?” She reached out, gently touching the cracked glass. “Ever since we fought that army, even the artifact isn’t doing much anymore.”
Gerald sighed. “Your magic flows a lot more easily now then it ever did. With my level 5 Insight you glow like a sun. The amulet holds back less and less each day.”
“It was always supposed to be a temporary solution. But I need it to shield things for a little bit longer. A foreign country is not exactly the best place to confront my father.”
She sighed, placing her head in her hands. “I think he suspects my true powers already.”
“Well, I’ll contact my parents, ask my people to look into what’s happened to Aunt Elsinore.”
Erin smiled at his attempt to comfort her. “Really? It would make me feel a lot better to know she’s safe.”
“Of course! I’ll call them as soon as we arrive.” His head snapped up as he finished talking, seeming to sense something, as he turned towards the door of the cabin with a furious expression.
“No need.”
The words were spoken quietly, barely audible within the passenger car, but the effect on Erin and Gerald was instantaneous.
She leapt to her feet, her face pale and angry, every muscle in her body tense and ready for a fight. Gerald also stood, putting his body partway between Erin and the new arrival, his posture clearly communicating an intent to protect as hers was to attack.
General Roderick smiled, the expression causing cold chills to run down Erin’s spine. “Sit down. We’re not going to fight here.”
Reluctantly, Gerald and Erin sat back, down, this time on the same side. Slowly, her father walked closer, sitting across from them, casually looking around, ignoring the increasingly tense atmosphere.
“What did you mean by ‘no need’?” Erin’s mind was racing as she thought back through their conversation. What had he overheard? How long had he been standing there?
Gerald squeezed her hand reassuringly beside her, and Erin calmed down slightly, with his insight there was no way her father could sneak up on them easily.
“Your inquiries after your aunt.” Roderick’s smile widened. “I’m afraid she’s no longer to be found in her government residence.”
“You mean her prison.”
He ignored her interruption, continuing. “She burnt the whole place down, killing all of my men.”
“…” Gerald and Erin stared at each other in shock.
“I assume you will see her soon enough, so need to waste the time looking for her.”
“What do you…?”
“She’ll be on her way to kill me.” Even as he discussed her aunt’s murderous intentions, he seemed… bored. “I expect her sometime in the next few weeks.”
Erin stood up again, struggling to hold in her magic as anger took hold. “You could be lying. She might be still imprisoned, injured, or…or dead…”
“Oh, Éirinne.” He threw back his head, laughing. The sound filled the room, filling her with unease. His eyes met her own and she nearly stepped back at the sense of danger. “I have no reason to lie. She means nothing to me. Her hatred, her desire for vengeance, mean even less to me than yours.”
At these words he turned to leave the room, almost running into Christopher.
“FINALLY! Erin, I’ve been looking for y…” The golden-eyed young man trailed off as he stopped in front Roderick. His face paling, he sketched an elaborate bow. “Pardon me, General.”
Her father frowned, stepping back away from him as if wary of being too close. “Be more careful in the future.”
With that, he was gone, and Erin could breathe once again.
“Well, at least you’re good for something!” Gerald grinned, although the expression was strained. “Driving away nuisances like General Roderick.”
Christopher shook his head, looking offended. “I didn’t drive him away! He was already leaving.” Hesitating, he took a step towards Erin, who stared impassively back at him.
“Erin, can we talk alo…”
“No.” Her answer was short, she turned away from him to face the window. Undeterred, Christopher stepped forward again.”
“I just need to…”
“I cannot tell you how very little I care for what you want or need to do.” Her gaze met his, and Erin didn’t bother to hide her rage. “Leave me alone, and you can still leave in one piece.”
“…” A silence came over the room. Gerald stood at Erin’s side, arms crossed. He didn’t comment but his posture made it clear he supported Erin’s words.  Finally, Christopher sighed.
“FINE.” He threw up his hands. “Just bury your head in the sand, try to pretend the world isn’t ending. I’m trying to save it, but you are so wrapped up in hating me, that you can’t see it!” His face for once did not hold his pleasant, masklike smile but a snarl of frustration. “You know what? Forget it! I’m tired of all of this. You can come crawling back to me when you regret it, and hopefully it won’t be too late. ”
He turned to walk out, but paused to say one last thing.
“How could you be so different from your mother?!”
And with that he was gone.
Erin felt her head spin, and unsteady, sat down, clutching the edge of the window for support. The seat cushion underneath her began tearing, the wood groaning under the strain as her poorly controlled magic bent it away from her. The spider web cracks deepened on the window, the frame warping around it.
“Erin, are you okay?!”
After a long, uncomfortable pause, Erin looked up at Gerald, trying to take deep breaths, to control her emotions, her magic.
“How does Christopher know my mother?”
Post-endgame fix-it where steve travels back in time to cw but they put steve in a cell just like 616 and steve just tells tony everything and holds him???
Fair warning, I know nothing about 616 except that it’s confusing and I’ll probably never get into comics so I hope this was what you were looking for? I also didn’t manage to write the holding part but there’s still some nice hurt/comfort and Civil War/Endgame fix-it (timelines, ya know?)
Also on ao3 here
~
He knows the minute he walks into the cell—before, even—that, no matter what Ross says, this isn’t his Steve Rogers.
Oh it’s a Steve Rogers, for sure, but it isn’t his. The hair isn’t the same, the eyes a little bit older—and that’s something that Tony can tell just from a picture on a StarkPad so he doesn’t know how Ross couldn’t tell that from up close. Whether it’s an alternate timeline, parallel universe, or one of the many types of shapeshifting aliens Thor’s talked about, this Steve Rogers is different.
He nods his thanks at the guard who lets him in the cell and studies Steve for a moment. Steve had to have heard him come in, that super hearing must have heard his footsteps from down the hall, but he doesn’t look up, allowing him the illusion of privacy. He lets his gaze drift over the different hairstyle, the dark washed jeans that his Steve wouldn’t have been caught dead in, the humbled posture.
Definitely not his Steve. That last one clinches it. His Steve is still making videos (from Wakanda, though Tony will never admit that he knows that) about how he’d done what he thought was right and posting them to Youtube.
“So where are you from?” he asks.
Steve’s head snaps up. “Tony,” he gasps hoarsely, tears quickly filling his eyes.
“Whoa, hey,” Tony says, dropping to his knees in front of Steve. “What’s going on here, big guy?”
“You shouldn’t be on your knees for me.”
And that—that’s so far from what Tony expected he would say that he rocks back on his heels in shock. He recovers quickly enough though and he quirks a perfected press smile. “I could sit next to you if you budged over a little.”
To his surprise, Steve immediately moves, another sign yet again that this isn’t his Steve. Slowly, Tony rises enough so that he can shift to the bench, where he sits with his thigh pressed against Steve’s because it’s too small to sit apart. Steve stares down at where they’re connected like he can’t bear to tear his eyes away.
“So,” Tony begins eventually. “Timeline or universe?”
“Timeline,” Steve says quietly. “Future. Every time we go back, we create a branching timeline. Or that’s what you thought.”
“I’m in your timeline?” Tony asks. He’d thought, given Steve’s reaction to him, that he didn’t exist or—Steve’s eyes go sad and wet again and this time, Tony pieces it together. “I died in your timeline.”
Steve nods. “Saving the universe.”
“Well, that doesn’t sound like me,” he quips, harkening back to their first meeting. He nudges Steve’s shoulder teasingly, expecting him to play along but that’s not what he does it all.
Instead he says earnestly, sincerely as only Steve Rogers can, “Yes, it does.”
And that just about floors him.
He’d never known that Steve thought that about him. Honestly, he’d kind of always thought that Steve just tolerated him. The Avengers needed a flier and since Thor was only on world half the time, they were stuck with Tony. He scrambles for something to say and lands on, “Why are you here?”
Steve raises one shoulder in a little shrug. “Can’t say too much without giving away the whole future but…you were right. Nat was right. Staying together was more important.”
“Why?”
“Because there are worse things coming.”
Tony stares at him for a long time, trying to figure out what could have happened that was so bad Steve came back in time to warn him. “Steve—” he starts to say and then stops because he doesn’t quite know where else to go from there.
“I lost you,” Steve whispers brokenly. “You and Nat and Viz and—” He stops too and Tony wonders who else might have died that Steve doesn’t feel he can tell him about.
“Steve, what are you doing here?”
Steve frowns. “I told you, I came to warn—”
“No, here, in this cell. You could have warned me without getting arrested, without anyone even noticing that you’re here.”
He straightens his shoulders, squaring them the way he does when he’s preparing for a fight. Now all he needs is the tensed jaw—ah, there it is. “I want to sign the Accords.”
Well, today’s just a day for surprises, isn’t it?
“You what?”
“To sign the Accords.”
“You have a timeline. One that you belong to. Don’t you think you should be there instead?”
“Bruce told me I had five seconds in that timeline, five seconds to do what I needed to do.”
“And you’re wasting them on telling me that you want to sign the Accords?” Tony asks flatly. He doesn’t understand. What could Steve possibly be getting out of this? Steve won’t be able to take his real name when he signs; there’s already a Steve Rogers in this timeline.
“I’m spending them telling you goodbye and hopefully trying to make your future better than mine,” Steve says. He sounds annoyed. Good. Maybe he’ll be more honest with him now.
“And how does you signing the Accords help with that?”
“Because, maybe, if your Steve sees me signing the Accords, he’ll decide to as well and your team will be together again so that you can fight what’s coming. Trust me, Tony, you’ll need everyone.”
“…that’s very convoluted.”
Steve tips his head back against the wall and chuckles. “Yeah, it didn’t sound too great in my head either. I’m usually better at these kinds of speeches or so I’ve been told. Look, it’s 2017, right? The new versions of the Accords are getting ready to go into place, you’re getting ready to launch your plan with Ross—”
“—Careful, he might hear you—”
“—As though you would have come in here without scrambling the cameras,” Steve points out fondly. His face somehow gets…quieter, almost. More peaceful. “I wanted to sign after I saw the new Accords.”
“You did?” Tony asks, surprised. “You do? You—fuck.”
“Yeah, it still confuses me too. I did. But I wouldn’t let go of my pride. I spent another year in hiding and that’s when everything went wrong.”
“It’s 2018 where you came from?” He shakes his head, trying to clear it. “When you came from?”
He smiles ruefully. “It’s 2023.”
Tony’s mouth forms a perfect o. That’s…that’s something. What went so badly wrong in 2018 that they’re still trying to clean it up in 2023?
“Point is,” Steve says gently, placing his hand over Tony’s. “I’d come back if you called. I always told myself that.”
“Why should I have to be the one to do it?” Tony asks sullenly.
“Because you know I won’t,” Steve replies.
He laughs because it’s true and he never thought he would meet a Steve Rogers who would admit that and because he’s a little overwhelmed. Somewhere out there, in another timeline, there’s a Tony who died because things went so badly wrong that that was the only way to save the universe. If that’s not overwhelming, then he doesn’t know what is.
He’s not entirely sure how Steve manages to do it, how he manages to slip his hand into Tony’s pocket and withdraw with the phone without him noticing, but he does. He holds it out and says, “I know you keep it fully charged all the time. I did too. Call him, Tony.”
Tony stares at the phone for a long time before he finally flips it open and dials the only number saved. It rings once—
Twice—
Tony glances to the side to tell Steve that he doesn’t think his Steve is going to pick up but somehow, Steve’s vanished, leaving him alone in the cell—
so, I'm clearly seeing things that aren't there
okay...
I am truly ill prepared for the next MCU phase. why you ask? well, when the MCU first launched their debate film IRON MAN in 2008 I was but 10 years old. I grew up along side many of these characters, some I love more than others it's true, many who were not treated well by the writers/producers and some who have come to pass. while watching a video essay the creator pointed out how the MCU's titular hero and villian are both fathers. Thanos sacrifices his daughter in exchange for the soul stone and the 'greater good'. that's because in Thanos' mind wiping out half of all living creatures is considered a 'correction', a 'balance' must be kept and Thanos' is willing to sacrifice his own daughter in order to do so. in Gamora's (2018) famous last words "no. this isn't love". Thanos is toxic he claims to love his children but he tortures them, destroys them, harms them and kills them (both directly and indirectly).
Tony doesn't become a father until after the events of Infinity War, yet throughout all 3 phases of the MCU Tony Stark/RDJ is considered the 'father' of the MCU. In IRON MAN 3 Tony all but adopts young Harley, in CIVIL WAR & HOMECOMING this motif is pushed even further with Tony mentoring Peter Parker. seeing Tony being a positive father figure for so many young characters is clearly a well thought out part of Tony's character arch. this is even more important to think about when you consider how Tony didn't grow up with the best dad around (granted Howard/Tony's relationship needs to be discussed in a different post cause there's a lot to cover there). it's made clear to the audience that Tony had a difficult relationship with his father (in the comics it's flat out abusive, the MCU's writers treated Howard Stark kindly being more of dismissive and passive-aggressive towards his son). in the first 2 Iron Man movies Tony works to move out of his father's shadow, this is somewhat achieved in CIVIL WAR when Tony creates B.A.R.F. which allows him to work though the emotional trauma of dealing with his parents passing (as well as other things too probably this man has serious mental health issues). this progress is hindered towards the end of CIVIL WAR but Tony still manages to reconcile with his demons enough so that when he meets his father again in ENDGAME he now understands Howard a lot better. at this point Tony himself is a father to Morgan, he knows he can't be the perfect father (Tony has struggled in the past with doing the 'right thing' AVENGERS: AOU is a good example for this). if Tony wants to build a brighter future for his daughter and avenge the fallen he has to sacrifice his own life. and he does. Tony lays his own life on the line and is finally able to rest...
-- EXCUSE ME WHILE I FUCKING SOB REAL QUICK CAUSE FUCK I'M NOT OVER HIS DEATH --
unlike Thanos Tony makes the sacrifice play if Tony truly wants to correct what has been wronged he has to take on the full repercussions. yes it means never seeing his daughter again but Morgan gets to live, his daughter gets to live her life vs. Thanos' choices which lead to the death of many of his children even his most precious Gamora (who he murdered). Thanos is an abusive and selfish father. Thanos is very similar to the father Tony grew up with, the core of Tony's demons and insecurities and when faces them, faces Thanos Tony is brave, he is resilient, he is the protector. Tony does not give up to the bitter end telling Thanos the truth, "I am Iron Man". Tony knows who he is. He is the man who will make the sacrifice play for his friends, his comrades, for all living creatures and for his daughter. Tony is a good father, damnit his the best
-- HOLD ON THESE FUCKING TEARS --
for 11 years I called Tony my father. sure I had my ups and downs with the character no one ever has a perfect relationship with their parents and yeah, he is fictional. however, I'm an introverted kid with no father who will claim me and here is this amazing and wonderful character who is shaping my youth. idealizing Tony as my father is no different to someone else claiming their favorite character is their best friend or closest companion. your comfort character as they would say.
this is why I appreciate WANDAVISION so much! besides being pure perfection for a great number of reasons the Disney+ show captures all the many stages and feelings associated with grief. it makes sense for this show to be the sequel to ENDGAME (the show takes place roughly 3/4 weeks after the events of ENDGAME). Wanda is helping us all move forward and accept the death of the characters who were slain so that the story could have a 'happy ending', a win for the heroes and death to the enemy.
now sadly, I am still recovering. and that's okay. I know that even after their gone these characters are still a part of me, just like Vision is the part of the Mind Stone that resides in Wanda. they are eternally connected and bonded.
FAR FROM HOME deserves a mention ofc. The film focuses on many things so for me the time given on Tony/Peter's relationship doesn't go into full depth, personally. yes we discuss Tony's legacy within the film however FAR FROM HOME doesn't have the same gut wrenching stomach twisting effect as WANDAVISION (these are all personal opinions. mine might not be the same as yours). still it's worth mentioning as Tony's much darker past makes an appearance, a darkness in the form of Mysterio who comes rushing straight for Peter. a son bearing the sins of his father. in the beginning of the film this weight is crushing Peter, he is unsure, grieving and far too young for all of this. yet by the end, Peter knows who he is. he knows the truth and Mysterio "can't trick... [him] anymore". Tony trusted him, Tony beieved in him and for Peter that's enough.
where was I going with this...? oh right!
I'm sad and depressed as fuck. I am eternally grateful to Robert Downey Jr.'s for his portrayal of Tony Stark. I'm so incredibly impressed with this character's arch and I love the idea of two father figures battling it out with the loving, kind and supportive father like Tony Stark winning over an abusive nut sack like Thanos.
the MCU has this strange line that they walk. on one hand there are themes, motifs and stories that feel incomplete, not yet fully realized. just short of greatness. then there are these well thought out methodical almost philosophical at times stories that are being written right before our very eyes. I suppose this is what 'family entertainment' is. as a kid I looked up to my heroes believing nothing could harm them, because the hero would always win and get to go home. as a young adult I know that the greatest heroes makes the greatest sacrifices which means... they don't always get to go home. and... that's okay because I know that Tony can finally rest knowing that his family (Pepper, Morgan, Peter, the Avengers, everyone tbh) are finally safe. the recurring nightmare has finally reached it's 'happy end'.
on a side note...
shout out to Josh Brolin! Thanos might be a saggy sack of nuts but Brolin is a an amazing actor and should not be hated for his portrayal of such an iconic villian. remember, you can hate the character but you should also appreciate the actor for their performance!
The Avengers: Endgame
youtube
Tumblr media
Over the last couple months I finally upgraded to somewhat modern TV and gaming rigs in the form of a 55” Samsung 4KTV and Xbox Series X. I own three 4K UHD discs, but one I already covered a couple years back with my entry of the BluRay version that came bundled with the 4K disc of Die Hard. The other is a two pack of the first two John Wick films, and rest assured those will get their day in the sun here eventually. From my research, the Xbox Series X is not a top shelf 4K BluRay player, at least not at the system’s launch before presumable system software updates, but also sounds like a fairly better quality version of the drive that came in the Xbox One X|S, and also supports upscaling of regular BluRays to 4K. Coincidentally, on top of my movie backlog pile was a movie I absolutely wanted to take advantage of that 4K upscaling and thus here we are with today’s write-up for 2019’s The Avengers: Endgame (trailer). WARNING: Unlike nearly most of my other movie recaps I will be diving into serious spoiler territory ahead. The amount of hype leading up to Endgame was insurmountable. Anthony and Joseph Russo did an astounding job directing the first part in 2018’s Infinity War (read my entry for it here). Both that and Endgame top the three hour mark to squeeze in as many characters, references, periphery side plots and so much more from the previous 21 Marvel Cinematic Universe films that lead up to this finale. By accomplishing just that, both movies are the breeziest three hour viewings I have experienced because the Russo brothers do a commendable job at keeping the scenes flowing and doing their best to give everyone their proper time to shine. The ending of Infinity War saw Thanos (Josh Brolin) deliver the snap heard around the world that vanished half of all life in the entire universe. It was a soul-crushing downer of a cliffhanger to end on, but the post-credits tag hinting at the cry of help for Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) left crowds with a glimmer of hope. This being based around comic books there is the unwritten rule where no one truly stays dead either, so part of the experience going into Endgame was to see how the remaining Avengers plan to bring everybody back. Endgame kicks off with the fresh effects of ‘the snap’ when it starts with Hawkeye’s family all getting dusted from him in the middle of a picnic.
Tumblr media
The film transitions to the remaining un-dusted Avengers squad of Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Iron Man (Robert Downer Jr.) floating aimlessly in space until the convenient deus ex machina that is Captain Marvel miraculously tracks them down and hauls them back to Earth. A few weeks Avengers HQ tracks down Thanos on an isolated planet and with Captain Marvel’s power, they anticlimactically kill him off in a brief scene. This was one of the parts of the film that did not sit well with me after building up Thanos as this unrivaled threat in all the previous films, and to have the Avengers cold-bloodedly put him down in quick order seems so……unlike them, but he did off half the universe so I understand how the Russo’s felt justified for filming it that way, but I cannot help that it did not come across right, and could have been handled better. Of course, a more proper Thanos battle would be coming later in the final act thanks to my pet peeve plot device that is…. …TIME TRAVEL!!!! This and alternate dimension traveling I despise and have turned me off to many shows over the years like Lost and CW’s DC shows. The worst of it is indeed present here because meaningful character deaths that happened in Infinity War to Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Gamura (Karen Gillan) become undone and their sacrifices proved for naught. All that griping aside however, I will give the Russo brothers credit because even with those qualms I feel they pull off time travel and have it appear as more than a convenient storytelling method. Again, major props because that is a hell of a hurdle to overcome. The filmmakers go out of their way in a couple scenes to directly call out Back to the Future’s style of time travel bullshit, and have a couple characters ever-so-carefully explain in detail and for the laymen how “real” time travel works.
Tumblr media
This is all thanks to a rambunctious rat who inadvertently zaps Ant Man (Paul Rudd) out of the Quantum Realm…after being trapped there five years due to his team being on the end of a dusting before bringing him back. Ant Man deduces upon his return that he is able to undo the dusting through his van-quantum-realm-contraption, and convinces the Avengers to conjure up a plan they cleverly dub the “Time Heist” to travel back to capture all the Infinity Gems Stones before Thanos does. I loved how these scenes played out, and there is a plethora of fan service throughout it as the three squads of Avengers jump to different periods like the final battle of the original Avengers film, and a 1970 military base where Howard Stark (John Slattery) unknowingly meets his son. Plans do not proceed swimmingly to say the least, and past timeline Thanos becomes clued in to their plan and thwarts the Avengers attempt at trying to undo the past in a CG showpiece for the ages with his assault on Avengers HQ. The CG fireworks continue to dazzle for the bulk of the final hour of the film with a climatic showdown between Thanos and his forces against The Avengers and the returning of the dusted Marvel characters. I have seen too many comic book films fail at translating over-the-top comic book action on the silver screen, but the Russo brothers always manage to pull it off. I fondly remember the theater crowd going gaga when Captain America (Chris Evans) summons Mjolnir and wallops Thanos with it. The women of Marvel have another moment to shine together where they collectively team up to kick ass. Moments of levity are brilliantly peppered in throughout the chaos for a much-needed chuckle from the nonstop adrenaline-boosting action. That final battle masterfully builds up to the dramatic sacrifice of Iron Man in the standout emotional scene of the film.
Tumblr media
The resulting aftermath was heartwarmingly done here with a pre-recorded farewell from Iron Man, and a collage of nearly all the major and minor MCU characters at Iron Man’s funeral. I believe this is the first MCU film without a post-credits tag, and that is 100% fine by me, because the beginning of the credits is a lovingly crafted tribute to the original Avengers cast done in the fashion of the Original Series cast of Star Trek VI that resonated with me feeling the end of a pivotal era of the MCU that I have been largely enjoying since the original 2008 Iron Man. I usually do not dive into this much detail and spoilers when recapping the movies here, but due to this being the final chapter of this era of the MCU films I could not help myself, and believe me there is so much more I wanted to dive in here on because like I said, the Russo brothers crammed in an incredible amount of narrative into three hours. There is so much ground in here it is impossible for me to recap it all, and that it will in all likelihood be the fastest three hour movie you will ever endure. I did not get a chance to even touch on over-the-hill Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the hybrid Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo (spoiler: they both killed it!)). Endgame unsurprisingly did major bank at the box office, so I feel safe knowing most of you reading this already watched it by now which is another reason I went all out on the spoilers.
Tumblr media
I re-watched the film for this entry a second time with commentary from the Russo brothers, and writers Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and that greatly helped explain some little tidbits that were easy to miss and/or not fully comprehend in the midst of the three hours. I know this is a little detail, but I want to give props to Marvel for being one of the few companies out there for shelling out resources to caption the commentary track! I exponentially appreciate it more than you know! The commentary helped with understanding why they did not do a lot for Black Widow’s (Scarlett Johansson) aftermath of her death because she has her prequel film set to release. Other notable takeaways from the commentary was how Stark’s “I am Iron Man” line was a last minute addition to the film, giving credit to Star Trek VI as inspiration for their credits sequence, being hopeful for Marvel capitalizing on Falcon donning Cap’s shield and lots of understandable love for the visual effects team for their hard work. Aside from the commentary track, the BluRay has a second disc with just under an hour of bonus material. There is the requisite short, but top-of-the-line gag reel that is standard in most Marvel Studios home videos. There are five minutes of deleted scenes worth a look, with some of them lightheartedly covering up plot holes. Remembering Stan Lee is a touching tribute to Stan, filled with archived interviews from him on his experiences in the cameos, and showing plenty of delightful off-camera interactions with the cast and crew. There are well done character profile pieces for Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Iron Man, with each one having countless cast and crew state proper kudos to what the actors have done for those characters over the years. If you only have time for one then I recommend Man Out of Time: Creating Captain America, because it goes into a little more detail than the others and Chris Evans has some intriguing introspection from his years with the character. Finally, there are short, but worthwhile pieces on the Russo brothers and the women of the MCU that should not be skipped out on either.
Tumblr media
As I mentioned above, the hype building up to Endgame was insurmountable, but Joseph and Anthony Russo overcame the odds and delivered a gratifying conclusion to this era of the MCU. Watching the BluRay upscaled in 4K on a TV about a third bigger than my previous set made it a grander experience too for those showpiece moments. Sure I had quibbles and nitpicks I mentioned above, but by and large those are easily overcome by how much the Russo brothers got it right with this film. I am kicking myself for waiting a year and a half to re-watch it, but picked up on a lot of little things that went right over mine and Drax’s heads the first time out. If you have yet to give The Avengers: Endgame another viewing, then do not hesitate because you will not regret once again taking in this landmark epic that delivered against all odds! Chapter 4
Chapter 4: Mobius M. Mobius
Prologue:
Tumblr media
The man in the suit walked a bit ahead of them as they trailed behind “They offer you a position to work with them?” Loki asked looking ahead with a low voice “Affirmative. I'm assuming you also?” (Name) asked in a low voice also “Mmhmm… however, something doesn’t feel right about this place” Loki confessed.
They continued to walk and (Name) too the time to look him up and down and held an amused smile, Loki arched a brow and looked at her “What’s so funny?” “Nothing just odd to see you in that. You look so normal, granted a prisoner uniform of sorts. But so normal” she chuckled “I mean you’re a quote on quote “god” so seeing you so ordinary is just odd that’s all” “Keep amusing yourself darling” he said rolling his eyes at her “In all fairness miss the whole god like Asgardian attire” she mocked lightly. Loki gave her a small smile then smirked “won’t change the fact I could kill you right now if it were for this suppressor” “So you are just an ordinary man, give or take 5,000 years?” “I am not that old. I’m 1,048” Loki exclaimed, almost offended.
They finally arrived at this large door. Walking in it was a conference room with a large oval table. Loki and (Name) shared a look with one another  as the man in the suit asked them to take a seat, the two prisoners sat side by side “Now let me understand something. Looking through your personal files there’s no mentions of you two ever meeting. However it’s a little tricky with multiple timelines that had recently been created…” spoke the man “Sorry to interject just now but. What even is your name?” (Name) asked him “Oh my apologizes Mobius M. Mobius” he introduced himself before getting back to talking “so I want to know the chemistry you both displayed before you capture...it’s unheard of, unforeseeable” “With all due respect agent M. but when two people are in life or death situations it is natural to try and work together and get out hopefully alive.” (Name) held her expressionless look “Well say what you like but there was chemistry no doubt.”  Mobius shrugged “The idea is that we have you both work for us, (Name) would serve as more of a babysitter for you, Loki. Your reputation is known to be wavering on your alliances, and proved so in your possible futures?” “I beg your pardon?” Loki asked now engaging in the conversation and a bit offended of the suggestion of him needing a babysitter.
“If you look at this hologram projector this was you up till now, 2012. Captured by the avengers and was to be taken to your location point; for Odin’s judgment back on your home world, Asgard. However, 2018 from 2023… things go downhill from 2018 onward” Mobius spoke with grim in his voice.
Both Loki and (Name) watch Loki’s original future unfold. Loki being sent to life imprisonment, the Almother dying protecting Thor’s girlfriend, Jane. Loki’s first ‘death’ as he takes over Asgard; send Odin onto Midgard in a retirement home. Thor and Loki get Odin, but the Alfather dies. They find out they have a sister, goddess of death, Hela. The day of Ragnarok and the end of Asgard and lastly Loki’s second and final death, by Thanos’ hands- “The sun will shine on us again, brother-”
“That’s enough!” (Name) slammed her hands on the desk.
Loki stared at her in confusion. Although it was a hard pill to swallow to know he lost so much and despite trying to redeem himself it was short lived. But the death of his mother was the most effective one. Loki for once was silent. “That’s enough! You claim to hold balance and here you are showing him his ‘true’ future!” she yelled “the repercussions are absolute! Showing his future he will now try to prevent it as soon as you allow him to step foot out!” “Now agent (Name). Loki’s death is in a way a fixed point. It needs to happen. He is one of the biggest threats of the T.V.A and the multiverse time continuum. As long as Loki ceases to exist in 2018 it does not matter what time, day or location all that matters is that he is dead” Mobius explained calmly “That’s obscured! Granted Loki is dangerous, but surely he was shown to change his ways. In the end he chose to save his people of Asgard-” “He gave Thanos the space infinity stone!” Mobius spoke with a raised voice “To save his people!” (Name) snapped
Loki watched as this Midgardian woman fought for his future self. It shocked him, although aware that in this moment; he was not that person that had redeemed himself. But seeing someone genuinely fight for him brought a sense of warmth that he felt from only his mother. “So let me get this straight Mr. Mobius. If I take your proposition and conditions, you will have me get rid of other threats to the multiverse timeline, that is too hard to do yourselves. Inevitably after that you’d send me back to my time of 2012, to follow the said script and die of Thanos’ hand...and if I don’t I’d be a wanted man” Silence (Name) gave Loki an exacerbated look which he returned a look to tell her to trust him. Clenching her jaw tight she sat back down “More or less...but there is a catch” “Go on” (Name) hissed out “Well the end game is that you both kill Thanos… before he collects the stones but we would still have to kill you in 2018”
-
-
“Here are you. Your uniforms” Mobius spoke, handing them both a pile of clothing “before you get changed and we take off the restraints we do need to do one little procedure...follow me” Loki and (Name) walk with Mobius and walk into what looked like a medical bay. The two weren’t sure but they were seated in these chairs and automatic metal restraints came up. The two started to struggle in their seat “We already said we join this stupid organization” snapped Loki “Oh we know. But we need to put a space and time GPS bio-implant to make sure to track both of your whereabouts at all time... through time and space” Mobius explained as two people in white walked over to them and started to inject some kind of thing in their forearms.
Once the whole procedure was done the two changed into their uniforms in their separate change rooms while Mobius waited for them outside. When they finished up and in their new uniform; khaki trousers, blue button up and a dark navy tie and black closed shoes. Loki was wearing a T.V.A tan coat while (Name)’s was being tied around her waist as she rolled up her sleeves “The trousers are hideous” (Name) mumbled out “Agreed” Loki said quietly, giving a small smile. She looked at him with a raised brow. She wasn’t sure why he was smiling ‘he’s planning something’ she thought. She looked to Mobius as he started to show them around the compound. (Name) was emotionless as she was lost in thought until she hear Loki’s smooth voice “You remind me of someone back on Asgard” Loki quietly “Hopefully not a lover of yours. Wouldn’t want to damage your ego when I turn you down” she said half jokingly “Oh gods no, she is a very strong warrior” Loki chuckled “and don’t flatter yourself, I would never stoop so low to fall for some Midgardian wench” “I’ll ignore that last part. I’m surprised honestly, from what Asgard has been described and what has been on your file Asgard seems so medievalesque. So I’m surprised a woman would be allowed to fight. Given the whole prim and proper attitudes” she said rather casually. Loki stared at her a little baffled by her sudden friendly and casual attitude “It’s not common but is accepted we- people of Asgard tend to overlook gender and focus on your abilities as an individual.” (Name) took notice of his hesitation and frowned lightly. Their conversation fell for a moment. “Your file says Asgardian. You were raised as any other Asgardian, jötunn or not you are Asgardian.”  (Name) said with a small shrug “but what do I know, I am just a Midgardian”
A final year student of Fine Arts at Jahangirnagar University, Mim has always been a creative and curious soul. She was an avid follower of the contest for a long time. This year, she finally took the decision to compete. Taking part in the competition was certainly not a cakewalk. “We went through vigorous training sessions. We did yoga in the mornings,” explains Mim.  Before the task rounds, the contestants went through fifteen days of training for ramp walk, acting, dancing, and many other skills. The photo shoots, acting, and improvisation rounds were Mim's favourite tasks in the competition. “I was nervous but in a scene, I got to convince people through my acting that my child was lost. I enjoyed it,” Mim smiles, adding that the competition was an overall memorable experience. Although she is highly enthusiastic about working in the media, she wants to take more preparations before doing so. She is now Lux Bangladesh's brand ambassador and has also won the opportunity to work on television and feature film projects of Impress Telefilm. Before hitting the silver screen, Mim wants to explore the world of television. Being a painter at heart, Mim also wants to continue painting and have her own exhibition in the future. Further to this, she intends to work for children who need special care. “I am in a fortunate position and it is our duty to take care of those in need.” says Mim. With great intentions, we hope Mim Mantasha excels at every step of her future endevours.
Avengers Infinity War Review The plot itself is pretty simple. There are six stones that possess mystic powers and he/she who possesses all the stones is by default the most powerful being in the universe. Our Marvel superheroes must forget their own conflicts and join forces against Thanos to restore the fate of the universe and its inhabitants. Of course, watch the movie to know how things pan out. Avengers: Infinity War is the movie of movies, and let me tell you why. Most, if not all, the characters of the MCU are present in this film and bring their own flavour into the mix. Thor is mourning the loss of his home and hammer, Stark feels he needs to take a break from saving the world, Captain America is still out to bring justice the right way, and Hulk has no control over himself. I don't know what formula the Russo brothers have applied in their direction but I watched in awe how all the characters blended to deliver multiple storylines within a movie. Yes, I have also compared this movie to a mega three-hour episode of your daily soap opera. Avengers: Infinity War is the comprehensive Marvel movie; it is the beginning of an end. It lifts you, it hits you, and leaves you with a cliffhanger extraordinaire. See it to believe it and it'll still be unbelievable. By next weekend, Infinity War will top $1.78 billion and could sit around $1.8 billion, ensuring Marvel's year-to-date tally exceeds $3.1 billion by next Sunday.
Deadpool 2 Marketing Right off the bat, you see how Deadpool has scratched out the 20th Century Fox logo and put “TBD,” which is a sly allusion to the ongoing Disney/Fox (and Comcast?) merger drama. The content of the letter is exactly what you might expect from the Merc with a Mouth. Pop culture references, silly puns, bad language, and Ryan Reynolds bashing. Then, at the bottom, instead of the #ThanosDemandsYourSilence, we get #WadeWilsonDemandsYourSisterSorryStupidAutoCorrectSilence. See, you guys, it’s funny! And not at all trying too hard. Kidding aside, the marketing for “Deadpool 2” has been pretty top notch, but perhaps not as great as the first film. Recently, the film premiered a music video for the soundtrack featuring Celine Dion singing an over-the-top ballad while a high-heel-wearing Deadpool does an interpretive dance around the diva. It’s ridiculous and fun. And also, the most recent trailer seems to have struck a chord with fans, who are coming down off their ‘Infinity War’ high.
I learned what to do or say after getting stuck during a live session. I have improved my speaking skills and the flow of a RJ host on how to talk and say because they have a different tone when it comes to a live session. I have taken all these skills from this program and I even got selected and did a short commercial video for Spice FM Radio. I also learned how to write a script for a radio show.
