what is the CD pet? i remember it being mentioned, but is it a dog?
how very funny you ask, lovie! because...someone a while ago asked me about a cd pet and i said, something like of 'maybe, who knows?'
me. ;)
i know.
skdhslkds
and shortly, you all will too, my darlings! for the sake of surprise and spoilers, i was just keeping the identity of the cd pet in the shadows.
which, speaking of shadows, it is the very first time that the citizens of a now very flooded and fucked up blondie's apartment ( minus marj ) arrive in the foyer of the crimson dawn manwhoresion, which again is this MASSIVE very gloomy and ominous sick-torian mansion with lots of cool glass skull door handles, old creaky floors and creepy portraits on the wall -- art of the dearly, or not so dearly, departed...dep(art) if you will -- except the interior has new electrical running through it so that the boys can still make pizza bagels in the air fryer and play legendary smash tournaments on their uber lux, big bucks, emphasis on big 98" flat screen tv...8k, ofc. ;)
anyways, they make it inside with what little luggage/personal shit they could salvage out of the wreckage of their Literal falling apartment, regrettably like half of kyle's really cool clothes are missing...i wonder if someone has things he can borrow...but ANWAYS AGAIN! when they walk in, jersey kyle sets down curb's carrier and suzie on sort of side table and is like 'holy fuck, i do naught like the feel of this place at all. this shit feels like something out of a horror movie, like i swear to gahd if some shit attacks m--"
aND RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT SOMETHING BODY SLAMS KYLE. like this herculean mass of energy, this strong, dark force runs at him at light speed, and is all over him. kyle is freaking the fuck out like oh my god this is actually a horror movie i am going to die, he screaming very girlish screams smh and then right when he thinks this supernatural monster beast from hell is going to gut him, somewhere off to the side, out of sight, the most threatening, frightening, authoritative and booming voice commands...
"sparky, sientate."
...and who is it, ofc...
but raven of crimson freakin' dawn. <3
who rushes over -- also this is irrelevant but i think he is in this sick colorful emo boy sweater and some ripped skinny jeans, you know, whore couture winter addition, he can be modest, you guys! -- and at the sight of him, this very large dog is immediately placated and ravenstan drops the scary dog training voice and is like "helllooo, sweet boy, mwahmwahmwah. besito besito besiiiiitoooo~ <33 :*"
i love ravenstan so bad, he's litrally so cute and an emo disney prince.
so sparky is just licking stan's face and being so sweet and we realize that sparky did not attack jersey to be vicious he just literally upon first glance liked him so much he wanted to say hi ksadhlsakd. amazing. kyle, however, hates most animals and drool and is a cat person and is like wiping his face with a hankerchief like fml.
and after a second, ravenstan rememeber, oh fuck, Kyle!!! so he immediately looks very worried and is like "i am SO sorry, jersey. he is super sweet, he just gets a little excited, y'know? are you--are you hurt at all? </3 here, take my hand, i'll help you up." all wide eyed
and jersey kyle aka crush era jersey my favorite period of time, is just looking up at raven of crimson dawn like he is a beautiful fake blonde eyeliner wearing apple cinnamon scented angel of death and...do yo know how badly kyle wants to take his hand? literally SO BAD. gay! down horrendous!!! but you know, he is a cold unfeeling husk and he does not like raven of crimson dawn! no way! i'm not dropping my mask in front of all these people, i am a loaded gun, i'm a weapon.
so kyle lifts his hand up like he's gonna take raven's hand and then at the last second, flips him off, rolls his eyes and is like "i've got it, ayshole." to which stan is like visibly disappointed for a second before Switching and shrugging doing the raven voice like 'suit yourself. you know, i like a man that's independent and can take care of himself." ;)
smhhhhh stan stop FLIRTING WITH KYLE IN FRONT OF EVERYONE LITERALLY NOT JERSEY TRYING NOT TO BLUSH LIKE!!! FOULLL!!
so important side note is that sparky is wearing...a pink bandana, ofc. which ofc, also means that he came from big gay al's animal rescue where curb also came from. and...sigh...so this is a small continuity error because i had al pretend not to know who the three people who paid blondie's rent were, but really all he said was that they didn't leave their names and ravenstan's voice sounded like heaven, which doesn't imply he....Doesn't know who he is.
and idk, was perhaps just keeping a secret for him...because raven actually does a fuck ton of volunteer work over there! hot boy shit! he is ofc, dressed like busted ass stan, but alas still v beautiful indeed. i think as a toolshed reference maybe spark got struck or nearly struck by lightning, he also has all that energy haha. stan basically foster failed him and he is ravenstan's emotional support dog and cd house pet, we love you sparky. that also means...drum roll pleaaaasee...
ravenstan knows curb! which is why curb got extremely excited to see him because ravenstan used to take care of him when he was in the animal santuary and stuff. so he quite literally heard stan's voice and was like!!!! aaaa!!! i missed you!!!! so cute omg reunited.
but yeah, they talk about that for a little...small world you know even for a big celebrity...kyle has sort of cute down horrendous gay daydream-y thoughts about how often stan must have come and go unbeknownst to all of them
( which he thinks is impossible because raven of crimson dawn's outfits are so shiny and tiny and scandalous that he has no idea how he could walk down the street without being noticed...but then, he's never actually seen stan look Normal and also...yeah kyle i bet you would be able to spot ravenstan a mile away and not be able to look away you gay ass bitch Stand Up!!!! )
and how cute he probably looks feeding all the lil critters in the pink shirt and like introducing little kids to them...also whether or not he rolls his sleeves up and how good his arms look...GO TO JAAAAAAIL.
but yeah! sparky! <3333 in my unpublished first draft boards i actually made a little section just for sparky.
final note: curb and sparky do hate eachother. they have shelter beef.
enemies to lovers, anyone?
-uncle nina, instigator of drama
#i'm gonna proof read this later i am lazy#but basically curb really liks raven and sparky immdiately really likes kyle but kyle is such a hater he's like control ur beast#i do think ravenstan looks cute in his big sweater and the jeans putting down his nightmare before christmas mug petting his big scary dog#he is my hero he is very cute to me#also after ravenstan did the scary command voice as a joke kenny raised their hand & said Is Anyone Else Bricked Up Right Now#and literally everyone raised their hands including jimmy like he risked falling over...ravenstan do not be raising his voice ever#but that was how he was taught to train most animals like someones mean scary mexican mom and it totally works#anyways NOT KYLE NOT TAKING STANS BEAUTIFUL HELPFUL HAND HES SUCH A FUCKING HATER#he wanted to so bad he was staring at it w such wide eyes for a second like omg he was worried abt me thats so cute hes so pretty and nice#aND THEN WAS LIKE EWEWEW YOU DISGUST ME GET A GRIP YOU FUCKING IDIOT YOU ARE PATHETIC STAND UP#goddamnit kyle will u be vulnerable for one second like he actually was bc hes actually pretty scared of big dogs he was very shaken#a small rm plot line is stan helping kyle get over his fear of big dogs bc sparky is so nice and kyle is wincing#and petting him with two fingers and is like...oh god it licked me...and stans like that means he likes you! he has good taste#raven stop rizzing kyle holy shit he cant take it#stan working at the shelter is so cute he totally does roll his sleeves up and his tattoos and biceps do look good#and he puts his hair back in the pink big als rescue standana and totally talks to all the cats and is like excuse me miss blossom#that was very rude to loki :( i think you owe him an apology!!!#and she meows back and loki scowls and hes like...now loki there's no need for that descaro papi!! >:O lets try that again#loki meows softly back and stan scratches both them behind the ears and is like amazing see all better <333#something abt ravenstan knowing the same cats that jerseykyle does and them both just not knowing despite being so close together#and probably just barely missing each other everytime...the beautiful waft of cinnamon or a stan laugh sometimes...#maybe he wasn't being so crazy after all#SPARKKYYYY

i have SO MANY thoughts on the new episode holy shit, first off my girl sylvie is too hot to work at MCDONALDS they did her dirty.
second of all brad being the only one to ever call loki and sylvies relationship weird was a major unexpected W and it KILLED ME and mobius was just like “yeah.”
ALSO BRAD IS SUCH A FUN CHARACTER.
AND OB AND CASEY ARE SO CUTE I CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE INTERACTIONS WITH THEM.
also i hate to say it but loki and sylvie are a great duo, even if making it romantic was huge mistake they do work great together and the fighting scene was awesome.
BUT THE LOKI AND MOBIUS EATING PIE SCENE WAS MY FAVORITE OMG loki trying to comfort mobius and ACTUALLY DOING A GOOD JOB AND BEING LIKE “lets go get some pie”
ALSO WATCHING MOBIUS STRAIGHT UP PUNCH A BITCH WAS SO AWESOME I WILL FOREVER LOVE HIM. SEEING HIM FINALLY LOOSE HIS COOL WAS SO REWARDING BECAUSE HES ALWAYS BEEN KIND OF PUT TOGETHER AND SEEING HIM GET MAD WAS SO FUN

Changing Seasons: The Lakes [Loki x Reader]
The Lakes Masterlist / Regular Masterlist Summary: (1) A long journey with Thor, Steve and Loki ends in a ramshackle country cottage. But really, it's just begun. (w/c 3.8k) Warnings: Minors DNI. Language. Ex-Loki. Smut references. Humour/Mild angst. Recommended Folklore Track: The 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is fine.
It’s just five days. In this...cottage. With your ex. You’ll barely see him.
The tiny two story building sat before you, twisting wisteria claiming rough stoned walls. Burnt orange leaves sparked against the morning chill, rooted into windowsills and crumbling brickwork.
It was small. Really small.
You stretched your legs, observing Thor waddle from the car, laden with suitcases.
One fell.
“Watch that!” Steve snapped, on his last nerve after the drive from the Essex compound. A hand flew to his neck, massaging the twinge caused by six hours squashed in the back of a hastily acquired hatchback. “Your collection of personal toys, Rogers?” Loki drawled, letting his mirth-filled eyes slide between the two men. “Yes, brother do be careful. We wouldn’t want the captain to be without an outlet.” Steve’s face flushed, while Thor staggered valiantly onward to the cottage door. “I still don’t understand why we didn’t take the train,” Loki muttered with a theatrical sigh, a single brush down the front of his suit making every well-worn crease evaporate. “The two of you on a train,” Steve spat incredulously, “wouldn’t be great for subtlety.”
Every syllable was laden with frustration as he heaved another case from the trunk. The god nodded. “Even I must admit, this is much more entertaining Rogers” he replied, motioning towards the cottage at the exact moment Thor’s forehead smacked against the low awning.
The suitcases fell in predictable succession. “Jeepers criminey-” Steve gasped, lunging forwards.
You rolled your eyes, smiling just Loki glanced backwards. A wolfish grin ignited. Shit. With narrowed eyes, he began to glide around the Fiat like a day-walker. His hair was slicked back, falling over the shoulders of a black suit more appropriate to fashion week than training in the wilds of the Lake District. You’d tried not to look at him much on the way here. For obvious reasons. He swaggered with resolute precision, infuriatingly erotic as he always was. It was sick, how he looked so good. Like he hadn’t been in the same car as the rest of you, gorging on jelly babies and squished krispy kremes foraged along the motorway. You had practised for this moment, and to your credit; your face remained perfectly straight. Your posture, casual. Unbothered, as Steve and Thor argued further up the path.
‘My slacks were perfectly folded in New York. If there is any rumplage Odinson- then I’ll know who to blame.’
‘Carry your own damn suitcases, then-’ ‘-I would’ve, if you hadn’t been such a dandy-show-off’
You spun away from your incoming ex, steadying your racing heart as you focused on the horizon. Mist hung over the rusted treeline, green and sienna twisting together and dipping down to a sprawling lake about a mile away, you reckoned, spread against the sunrise. Loki’s playful scathing broke the calm. “You haven’t said two words to me in almost twelve hours, Agent,” he purred. “I’m impressed.” There was a time that kind of talk would have brought you to your knees. But not anymore, you lied to yourself, clenching. With your eyes still lowered, you tilted your chin towards him. Defiantly, slowly, you raised them; catching his inscrutable stare like a rifle’s scope. You raised your eyebrows expectantly, lips sealed. Loki scoffed, looking into the distance. His breath was fog. “I don’t know what else I expected,” he muttered quietly.
You stood in silence, backs turned to the domestic carnage unfolding at the cottage door. Letting your gaze roll over the mountains. Early morning autumnal air stung the back of your throat. Fresh pine and wisps of smoke from unseen chimneys, far away. Amber hues spindled along the surface of the lake a mile below, rippling methodically. You fought the urge to look at him.
His eyes would look beautiful in this kind of light. Always had. “It reminds me of home,” he murmured wistfully. It sank into the crisp air, the softness of the tone you still dreamt about curling around your body like smoke. Loki’s scent mingled with the breeze, reminding you of nights spent wrapped around him as you slept in snatches. His hand never far from your own. His love draped over you like a cloak.
A shiver ran down your spine.
You felt him lean in, the warmth of his breath against your skin drawing closer before it retreated. “Asgard,” he added condescendingly. “Although, Asgard isn’t quite as...rustic.” He lifted a foot, making a show of wiping a sole on the wet grass.
You grit your teeth. It never ended. He couldn’t help himself, even after everything that had happened between you. The snake tightened inside your belly, unfurling and poised to strike; regrettable words bubbling behind your teeth. “Let’s just get through this week, shall we?” Loki snapped, before turning away. The crunch of twigs beneath his retreating footsteps was all you heard as the chill stung your eyes. Just the chill.
Tumblr media
"I carry the paraphernalia so I shall be first across the threshold thank you very much,” Thor grumped, jostling Steve from his path and shuffling sideways through the frame. Steve grimaced, nodding at Loki to follow his brother. “Thank you,” Loki said curtly; noting the captain’s gaze flicker to where you stood overlooking the lake in a valiant attempt to remain mysterious. “She’s quite well,” he added presumptively.
Steve frowned. “She was quiet on the drive. Even let Thor play his music. Not like her” he said, leaning against the cottage wall before recoiling. “Urgh, it’s damp.” Loki chuckled. “Of course it is. Welcome to the northern hemisphere, Rogers. What you need, is some leather” he winked.
He watched the captain pat his shirt fruitlessly as a stain blossomed through the pale cotton, clearing his throat softly. “She’s still a little...put out... by our parting of ways. Can’t blame her, really. I mean-” He gestured to himself with a consillatory sigh. “She’ll warm up-”
Loki cast a glance around, realising he wasn’t sure if the hallway was colder than the exterior. “-metaphorically, anyway.”
Steve nodded sagely. “To everything there is a season…” he mused. Loki frowned, turning away. He waved a dismissive hand. “You know I do not traffic in colloquialisms, Rogers” he scoffed with his back turned. Entering the kitchen, Loki immediately bumped his shin on a discarded suitcase. He wrinkled his nose.
A single lightbulb hung from the ceiling, barely illuminating the cramped space. Ageing wallpaper clung valiantly to its charge, whimsical ducks and geese parading in an inexplicable march. Thor stood hunched over the sink, running spluttering water into the world’s smallest kettle. The ceiling was inches from his head. “Tea, brother?” he chirped. Loki nodded, wondering how the hell they’d ended up here. “Rogers?” he enquired innocently. Steve’s head popped round the doorframe.
“Howdy!” Loki closed his eyes and took a breath. “Rogers,” he repeated. “Remind me why this week is truly necessary?” Steve released a forced chuckle. “I’ll get to that. Hang tight.” He disappeared, shouting your name down the path. By the time the two of you returned, Loki had seidred the suitcases to their respective destinations. He had secured the largest room for himself, of course. Although that wasn’t saying much. Rogers and Thor would be sharing. Loki had the sneaking suspicion that was not the plan – but alas for them – it was their new reality.
Four mismatched mugs of steaming tea sat on the small square table in the corner. Loki sat in one chair, legs crossed. Thor in the other, looking decidedly squashed.
Steve closed the kitchen door while you leant against the counter-top, arms folded. “I made tea,” Thor smiled, pleased with himself as he held it forth like an offering. You accepted. Loki noted the shiver that shook your shoulders as the hot mug entered your cupped grasp. A fleeting smile of pleasure skating across your cheeks. He’d missed that, he found. “Please, take my s-” Loki started, beginning to rise. Habit. “I’ll stand,” you replied curtly. Loki nodded, sinking down. An uncomfortable silence filled the room as an oblivious Steve squinted suspiciously out the window while closing the blinds. “Alrighty then-” he said, turning. His enthusiastic glances bounced to each of them in turn. Thor adjusted himself, rewarded with the malevolent warning creak of a chair leg.
“As anyone who was listening during our meetings will know,” Steve paused, staring at Loki, “it’s come to my attention that our manual outdoor skills are somewhat lacking. Anything happens to our abilities or comms while we’re on a rugged mission and booyah,” he made a burst with his fingers, “pardon my french – but we’re up crud creek without a paddle.” Loki scoffed. “Hardly-” “This week we’ll be getting back to basics. You two-” Steve gestured between the gods seated at the withered dining set, “especially. It’s all magic and brawny shenanigans until you need to skin a rabbit.” He looked to you warily, “Metaphorically, of course. Our resident expert will give us instruction, and we’ll go from there-” Steve nodded to you, folding his arms. Loki rolled his eyes. “I don’t think you understand how magic-” “No weak links.” he continued, un-phased. He had his very serious face on. “And I count myself in this too. We need to be confident that if something happens, and we’re out in the wilds...we can handle ourselves. Survive, until help arrives.” “But why here?” Loki whined, “we have the facilities to simulate the environment back in-” Steve held up a hand. “No one can know earth’s mightiest heroes are out here learning outdoorsing 101, Laufeyson. Imagine the press. No.” He shook his head. “This is absurd,” Loki muttered into his tea.
“Let’s try and have fun. At the very least, it’s a week in the fresh air.” Loki’s eyes rose, your words and tone clearly rehearsed. There was a weak smile on your face, but it didn’t reach your eyes. He’d become intimately acquainted with that look in the final months of your relationship.
Silence hung in the kitchen. “And the two of you will be alright, will you?” Thor boomed, stretching a leg which reached halfway across the floor. He took a sip of tea as Steve’s face went pink.
“I mean, with the breakup. Although I suppose its better than being kept awake by the ooo’ing and ahhh’ing through the walls, isn’t it Rogers?” He began to chortle, “remember...remember in- where was it? Oh, Columbia. Norns, what a-”
“-Brother,” Loki snarled. Hair bristled on the back of his neck. You cleared your throat. “Loki and I have an understanding. There’s no animosity between us-” “Isn’t there? News to me,” Loki mumbled petulantly, running a finger across the plastic table cloth. He could almost hear the grind of your teeth as you spoke pointedly to Thor. “Well I intend on remaining professional. I’m sure your brother is the same.” Loki shook his head, snorting. “Professional?” he spat incredulously. “What need have I to be professional? I am a god.” “And there it is,” you began, temperature rising before Steve patted down the air.
“How about we go check out the bedrooms?” he said. Everyone murmured agreement. And somewhere between Loki cursing his temper, and the babble of his brother’s half-hearted apology- you were gone.
Tumblr media
Ten minutes later, Loki found himself staring at the same spot on the wall he had been for the last eight. It was meditative almost. On the other side of the wall at the end of his bed, was your room. Small, rectangular. Barely space for more than the single bed. But Loki had a feeling you didn’t mind.
You had settled on the mattress around seven minutes ago after unpacking, the comforting creak of springs alerting him. What were you doing, he wondered. Thinking. Feeling? He shook the thought from his mind, reminding himself that was no longer his business. But the thought crawled back with the vengeance of a dying wasp. If we were together still, I’d have made her climax twice on this bed by now.
His clothing hung in a drab single wardrobe. When in Nilfheim, he’d surmised. The garments were simple, and perfunctory. All manner of base layers and fleece lined items in vapid shades which lacked even a morsel of style. Not a sniff of leather. And zips in the most unflattering places.
Loki shuddered.
His ears pricked as he heard a wooden board in your room creak, tracking the slow amble of five steps it took to cross the floor from end to end. She’s looking out the window, he mused.
‘Get your hands off my undergarments,’ Thor’s voice was crisp and menacing through the wall to Loki’s left. ‘Well, put them in a drawer like a gentleman.’ Steve snipped in response, barely muffled by the stone. ‘There are no drawers! Why must we reside in such a place, Rogers!?’ He has a point, Loki thought. ‘Because no one would expect it.’ Steve replied smugly.
There was a pause, but Loki could hear the thump of Thor’s boots as he rounded the twin beds, positioning himself for attack. His voice was low, and purposeful. ‘Just like you won’t expect...this.’ The inhuman sound of one of his brother’s legendary farts ripped through the wall.
Loki braced in the silence that followed, relishing the craft of his devious room organisation while Steve, he presumed, got some traction to exit through the window. ‘Jeepers,’ came the choked, disbelieving response of the captain through the wall. Jeepers indeed, Rogers, Loki smirked.
A sudden tinkle of restrained laughter perked his ears. It came from behind the wall in front of him. He froze, savouring each lilting rise and fall as you gave in to full-blown cackle. Wait for it.
He held his breath. You snorted. Loki grinned, letting himself bathe in the warmth of that laughter which used to lace his brightest moments. The nights, when you met after long days apart. He remembered when he would tickle you beneath his sheets in the Tower. When he would slide his hands over your squealing, curled form in apology, crawl on his knees beneath the covers and gently part your legs.
‘I just can’t help myself,’ he’d purr, kissing the smooth skin of your inner thigh. ‘Forgive me?’
And you always did. Until you hadn’t. You would rake your hand through his hair, lovingly humming his name as he ran his tongue up your plump slit; settling in to his long, languid worship. Loki sighed. He looked down in his lap, realising a thumb was digging into the palm of his clasped hands. He pushed it in harder, frowning. Fool.
Suddenly the door flew open. A red-faced Steve gripped the door-frame, breathing heavily. “Swap...with...me,” he gasped. Loki shook his head, heavy with feigned sympathy. “Afraid not, Rogers. Look, I unpacked and everything.” He pointed to the wardrobe. “Like a gentleman.”
Steve’s face flushed deeper, hanging his head in resignation. “Gosh-darnit,” he sighed under his breath. “Be downstairs and ready in five.”
Tumblr media
A chorus of Blackcap birdsong fluttered and rolled over the bushes. Final frostings of morning clung to crisped leaves, slowly warming in the blast of breath-fog from three Avengers huddled around a large map. You watched with an amused smirk on your face, laughing inwardly that Steve thought a wardrobe full of Trepass could disguise their presence. Like three bears at a piglet’s tea party.
Thor held the compass, squinting. The rectangular instrument looked much like a stick of gum in his palm as he leant closer to the dial, searching for some unseen clue. You decided to have mercy.
“So you can see here,” you said gently, tracing your finger over the map, “to get to the lake we need to follow a bearing of 79 degrees….and we need to adjust for true North. Remember?” You moved the compass slightly. “Blast,” Thor growled. He was taking this very seriously. A bobble hat was pulled low on his brow, but even then, you could tell he was frowning. Loki chuckled derisively, smoothing a strand of inky hair from his jawline. You watched as it curled behind his ear. His beautiful, perfectly formed ear. “Volunteering for the next marker, Loki?” you asked calmly, watching his smug smirk fall. You switched back to Thor, now measuring points on the map diligently. Steve stood by his shoulder, taking notes on a small pad. “A-ha!” Thor shouted triumphantly. A dozen birds took off from the nearest tree, fleeing skyward.
Steve frowned. Stealth, it chided. The blonde god whipped his face to you in childish glee. “This way!” he pointed theatrically. You nodded, bathing in the pride spreading across the god of thunder’s face. It was Loki’s turn to frown. “Give me that,” he snipped, snatching the compass as Thor began to fold the map and lead the charge towards the next marker. “You’re just jealous brother. Clearly my skills of navigation are unmatched. Isn’t that so, Agent?” he postured loudly, clearing a branch from your path. It wasn’t often Thor truly had the upper hand. So you decided to push it a little higher. “Out of the three of you so far? Absolutely.” You beamed at him, seeing storm-clouds gather in Loki’s eyes out the corner of your own. His brows knitted together, chin pushing down into the thick roll of his scarf.
Thor hummed as you passed beneath his arm. “I always liked you, you know” he chuckled in hushed tones. Clearly, he’d seen the abject annoyance blossom on his brother’s face too.
You nodded conspiratorially, casting a glance back at your dejected ex as he picked his way over a patch of brambles, hands deep in his coat pockets. Steve followed behind, flicking through the pages of his pocketbook.
“Meh, it’s good for him,” you said diplomatically while shooting Thor a toothy grin.
He returned it.
Tumblr media
Loki took each step carefully. He would be damned if a tangle of barbed shrubbery bested him the same day as his oaf of a brother.
He wouldn’t have gotten it without her help, he fumed; stepping quickly over a freshly steaming pile of suspicious pellets. His nose wrinkled, glancing up to where the two of you were sharing a moment. Blatant favouritism.
Gritting his teeth, his jaw nuzzled further beneath the coiled wool around his throat. A smile lit up your face as you shared some sort of inside jest with his brother. Loki remembered, all too well, how you used to look at him that way. How it was to bathe in the warm of your affection, the comfort of your hallowed inner circle.
He tried not to let his mind wander to your inner circle too much. The immediate twitch of his cock beneath the ghastly slacks was a timely reminder why. Steve’s shrill caw of warning came too late. “Watch your-” Loki froze, snarling as his eyes fell to the foot now wedged in a pile of shit. “How appropriate,” he sighed as he reluctantly pulled it free. He began to wipe it on the ground. “Just wipe it on the ground,” Rogers said. Loki's stare was daggers as he continued to do just that, cursing the Norns as you began to walk towards them. “What’s the hold up?” you said. Loki raised a hand to stop Steve from speaking, but alas.
“Laufeyson stepped in poop.” “Thank you, Rogers. I’m sure our ‘resident expert’ can see that.” Steve crouched down to his haunches, inspecting the boot-imprinted pile. “Looks like deer poop to me,” he observed diligently. “What do you think, Agent?” “Could be,” you said, matching his serious tone. “Nice spot.” Loki felt his jaw slacken.
What portal has opened and swallowed me to this unending nightmare.
He wiped the defiled heel of his clumpy, tan boot a final time, before marching up the ridge. He should be first. He had the compass, the ultimate instrument of inter-planetary survival, apparently. “Broth-” he started, before rocking back on his heels. “What is your problem?” he heard you hiss as you yanked the back of his jacket. Loki whipped round, every snippy retort that hovered on his lips evaporating as he saw your flushed face; wild with undisguised irritation. Steve was bumbling slowly up the hill, oblivious. “I…” Loki breathed, resisting the unfamiliar urge to tell the truth. You were still gripping a toggle that dangled from the back of his jacket. Loki looked at it, pausing a moment before refocusing with renewed vigour.
“I shouldn’t have to do this. It’s ridiculous, and you know it.” “Well why are you even here? Why don’t you just bugger off at a moment’s notice like you always do? Go whine to Heimdall or something?” Loki heard white noise bubble deep in his mind, rising to a roar as his vision tunnelled to the sight of your pupils blown wide with anger; lip trembling ever so slightly as you valiantly stood your ground. There she is, he thought with bizarre satisfaction. “Because I wouldn’t want to give the impression I’m not a team-player, would I?” he snarled through gritted teeth. You released your grip on his toggle with a scoff. “I’ll believe that when I see it. If you can last the whole trip, I’ll-”
“-You’ll what?” Loki heard himself say. The tone, he noted, was dangerously flirtatious.
You eyed him suspiciously.
“-I’ll be am-azed. The prim prince of Asgard, hacking it for a week out here. It might be good for you.” You see-sawed your palm. “But you know...low expectations.” Loki’s eyes narrowed as Steve emerged hovering over your shoulder. He suddenly reminded Loki very much of the geese parading on the kitchen walls. “I assure you, Agent, I shall pass your tests with flying colours.” He forced a smile. It hurt his cheeks in the cold. A little bow followed. A little flourish of his hand. He paused, baiting you. “I look forward to you proving me wrong, then,” you sniffed, re-adjusting the straps of your backpack.
Your eyes caught his a little longer than you’d intended.
Loki’s gaze fell to your lips, beginning to chap in the unforgiving English chill. How he wanted to capture them with his in that moment, moisten them with his breath and tongue and fiery adoration. To warm you, take care of you. As he should have when he had the chance, perhaps.
At the time, Loki wasn’t sure why - but nonetheless he held out the compass to Steve. “You take this one, Rogers.” “Alrighty then!” the captain quipped obliviously. His knees pumped up in a farcical jog down the ridge towards Thor, having an in-depth conversation with a passing sheep.
“Alrighty then,” you mimicked to yourself with quiet smile. Meeting Loki’s amused gaze, the smile fell. And without another word, you set off down the hill.
The god watched you pick your way gracefully over the autumnal landscape, breeze whipping your hair. He brushed his own from his eyes, pausing to reluctantly admire the rugged peaks and cliffs that curled in on their path. Burnt orange mingled with green, a rolling wave of seasons trickling through the vale. He could feel it all around him; through him – seeping beneath his skin, whether he willed it or no.
Change.

would've could've should've pt2
See my full list of works here!
Part of the 500 Follower Celebration Requested by: Anonymous
Summary: You and Loki attend an alumni event at your college, hiding in plain sight while on a mission to retrieve information about HYDRA experiments within campus; you cross paths with someone from your past.
Word Count: 6.5k [pace yourself; keep water on standby]
Warnings (spoilers ahead but also you need these): 18+ | heavy themes (retraumatizing; emotional trauma from past relationship; past relationship with severe power imbalance; past relationship involving severely predatory behavior; implied dubcon mentioned in memories); mentions of human experimentation involving drug-induced mental and emotional subjugation; angst; Tony's a-hole tendencies; language [let me know if I missed anything and I'll change it immediately]
Things to be aware of: established relationship; keep the song this is titled after in mind especially "I damn sure never would've danced with the devil at 19"
Tumblr media
There'd been a tension between you and Loki ever since that movie night gone wrong where his brother let slip that he was frustrated in his current relationship. At least where physical contact was concerned, or lack thereof. Thor even went so far as to insinuate that Loki doubted his girlfriend even loved him if she wasn't even willing to share her body with him.
The unease was driving the god to the brink of madness, every part of him shaking with the urge to pull you into a room and beg you to tell him what he could do to make things better. He would do just about anything for you, and it pained him to realize that you didn't actually know that.
Perhaps with this new mission that you two were being sent off to, you two could have some much needed time together away from all the noise. And especially away from his brother that thought he knew what was best for him. Thor didn't know a damned thing.
You were best for him. He just needed to be leagues better in showing you that so you could know it as well as he did.
And even though the destination wasn't all that romantic, the god still had a good few tricks up his sleeve that could help him make do with what he had.
"Y/N, quick question about lodging arrangements for your mission with Laufeyson." Loki immediately tuned out all of the other noise around him to listen in on your conversation with the worker from Operations & Logistics. One of the perks he'd found from his Jotun heritage: the enhanced senses that allowed him to eavesdrop even from across the rather spacious room.
"I don't care about the view, Kristy, just stick us wherever," you spoke around the cookie you were munching on.
"Oh, no it's not about the view. You two are booked for a suite, so you'll have a fantastic view of the Hills regardless. Maybe even the Hollywood sign!" She bounded in her spot slightly, clearly excited as she imagined what you'd be seeing from the suite's balcony.
Meanwhile the raven-haired god was already losing himself in the image of sharing some champagne with you, your features illuminated by the city lights. Perhaps stealing multiple kisses through the night.
"I was wondering about the uhh…bedroom arrangements? You want one bedroom or two?"
He was about to speak up, nearly shouting that you only needed a single room with a single bed before you answered, not a single part of you betraying your image of calm consideration. "Two." A pit formed in his stomach as your eyes didn't even dart to steal a glance at him.
"You sure about that, jellybean?" Stark butted in, looking up from his seat at a nearby table with his daughter. "You're supposed to be masquerading as a couple all happy in love and shit."
"Uh huh, sure. In public."
"Alright then. Scenario." He leaned forward on his seat, pointing his writing instrument at you. "Say someone sees you while you're out on the streets, takes an interest in getting photographs of you. You're in Los Angeles, paparazzi's a dime a dozen and some of them know how much pictures of Avengers sell, especially if they look like they're dating. Say our hypothetical pap friend has a telephoto lens that can see into your suite and sees you going into separate rooms. What then?"
You didn't even take a moment to think it over. Instead shrugging and answering him in a perfectly laid back tone, "Couples fight. Paint a smile for the cameras and sleep in separate beds. That's Hollywood, baby."
Loki's pulse thundered in his ears, almost dulling out the way that Stark turned back to his daughter and told her, "You do not ever go to your Auntie Y/N for relationship advice, are we clear?" The little girl only answered her father with a little salute.
Was that what was happening? The tension that ran thick between you two whenever you were so much as in the same breathing space together? Were you fighting?
"Two rooms it is then," the Logistics worker spoke again, tapping away at her tablet before giving both you and Stark a thumbs up, confirming that the reservation had been made.
"Hey, Reindeer Games, jellybean, word of advice? You know, from a friend or colleague or whatever you wanna call me?"
"You're my friend, Stark, I'm Morgan's godmother for fuck's sake," you shot back at the same time that Loki said, "Well an annoyance would be the term I'd use, but go ahead."
"Try to have fun? You're going to your college reunion, Y/N. I'm sure you have some familiar faces you wanna say hi to, reminisce about your random acts of debauchery and dance with like you're 19 again at the club with your fake IDs trying to score some alcohol from the bartender that pretends those cards are legit?" He then turned his focus to Loki. "And you. Try to get some. Unless of course you're still miserably attached to Little Miss Prim and Prissy with a fifty foot pole because she doesn't wanna do the naked tango with you."
"What's a tango?" the smaller Stark queried, looking up from her workbook.
"It's a dance, baby," you answered her, smirking into your drink before you took a sip.
"Naked dancing, Auntie Y/N? I'm confused." The Logistics worker decided to take her leave at this moment, scurrying out of the room with a little nod toward everyone present.
"I know you are, baby." You walked over to her, ruffling her hair before placing a kiss on the top of the little girl's head. "Ask your parents about naked tangos. I'm not gonna be the one to talk to you about the birds and the bees."
"Birds and bees can dance with each other? But isn't a bee too small for a bird?"
"All excellent questions, sweetie." You gave Stark a mischievous look that would have done the god proud had it not been for the knots still sitting heavy in his stomach. "Good luck, Tony. And for the record? I wasn't a party girl in college. Some of us actually had to bury our noses in books and study our way to our degree. We can't all be genius billionaire playboy philanthropists."
"Ah, come on, jellybean, there had to be something you did for fun in college." The way you froze for a fraction of a second didn't go unnoticed by the god, but it seemed to slip past Stark and his daughter all too easily. "Just remember that this shouldn't just be a mission for you, you're gonna be among your old friends. Take a second to...I don't know, mingle. Catch up."
"Stark? The only reason I even agreed to go to the reunion is because of the mission. Our intel found evidence suggesting that HYDRA took over and repurposed a building in my old college and they might be housing volatile maybe even catastrophic kinds of compounds in there, and we're just going for a recon mission. In and out. The only purpose I'd have for mingling is wanting to see who in campus might be involved in the shady shit."
"Fine, whatever floats your boat, Y/L/N. At least go say hi to your old professors, though. Might make their entire year being able to brag to their incoming classes that they once mentored an Avenger back in the day."
For some reason those words from Stark had you freezing up even more, trying to mask it by nodding a little too vigorously before taking a swift leave to the kitchen area, setting your mug down. Loki took that as his opportunity to perhaps have a moment with you before you went off to your apartment for the night. He made his way to you, speaking just barely above a whisper. "Darling, I'm so sorry you had to hear that barb from Stark." His arms ached to simply reach over and pull you into an embrace, the only thing stopping him being the reminder that you both had agreed to keep your current entanglement with one another more private.
But he wanted more than anything to ignore that reminder completely. Especially after looking upon your features and seeing a blank stare of what he horrifyingly recognized as defeat in your eyes.
"It's fine, Mischief," you answered him, your voice monotonous and almost completely devoid of emotion. "He doesn't know he was talking about me. Serves me right anyway. Prim and prissy might as well be tattooed on my forehead."
The god's skin bristled with irritation hearing you repeat the billionaire's words as if you were already accepting of the new unwelcome moniker. "I should have a word with him. Tell him his remarks have the most undesired effect on you. He'll stop, I'm sure of it. Once he knows that it's you. Even be remorseful."
"You tell him and everyone will know," you deadpanned, your face remaining stoic as ever. "He'll tell everyone before the night's over and suddenly what's private isn't so private anymore. Is that what you want?"
He stood silent, staring at you with your blank expression that you'd given him since that disastrous night where Thor made the idiotic remarks that so efficiently drove a wedge between you two. A wedge he somehow didn't know how to dislodge. "I…I simply want for us to be okay."
His heart splintered seeing you give him something between a grimace and a small smile, shrugging before answering in the same flat tone, "Then we're okay."
Then why does it feel as if you're pushing me farther and farther away with every passing day? he wanted to ask you, the words weighing heavy on his tongue as he watched you walk away, back to your apartment. Why does it feel like I've lost you?
Tumblr media
The level of guardedness you displayed ever since you stepped foot on your old campus put Loki on high alert. You always exhibited a calculated caution in missions, but this seemed beyond that. There was nothing in your stance that implied your readiness to fight and defend yourself, but rather there was a fear.
A readiness to run. To disappear.
Your shivering in his hold did nothing to convince him of any other explanation. Being here elicited a fear in you that he couldn't comprehend. As if there were ghosts from your past lurking in the shadowy corners of the dimly lit gymnasium.
"Oh my gosh, is that…Y/N?" a high-pitched voice shrieked over the thumping stereo, coming from a rather bubbly looking woman that was bounding toward you, arms outstretched with a wide beaming grin on her face. "I haven't seen you since graduation! Our old profs just can't stop talking about you and how proud they are that they taught an Avenger, they're hoping they get to see you tonight. Get a picture or two." She then turned her attention to Loki, jaw on the floor when he saw his arm gently wrapped around you. "Are you two--?!"
"Ohh! Uhm…no." You worked your way out of Loki's hold to give the woman a friendly embrace before turning back to face him. "Loki, this is Bianca, we shared a good number of classes together. Bianca, this is Loki, my uhh--" Your voice caught in your throat trying to find a word to describe the god.
I'm yours, little mortal. Plain and simple, he wanted to tell you, regardless of present company.
"We work together," you told her, the words worsening the sinking feeling that he had in his stomach. "Work's been a little slow lately so Stark assigned me to show him around and expose him to what a former college girl's life is like."
"College girl? You?" The woman burst into a fit of giggles. "Y/N you were many things when we roamed these halls, but you were more a mini professor than anything. I never once even saw you step foot at a frat party or a club…you were always just hanging out with--"
"You know what, you're absolutely right," you cut her off, your voice louder than normal even with the thumping music surrounding you all. "Loki, maybe you'd be better suited to learn from my old friends. Go off with Bianca, she and the other girls can't possibly steer you wrong."
The god's blood ran cold as your words hit him. He felt as if you were steering him away from you for more than just this moment. As if your sentiment held a poorly veiled secondary sentiment, pushing him away from you so that he could pursue someone else with your blessing.
He did his best to put on a casual smile, to politely decline your offering of your old campus friend. "I accompanied you to learn from you, little mortal," he spoke over the music, reaching for your hand and lacing his fingers between yours. "I wish to stay with you. You cannot rid yourself of me that easily."
"I'm not ridding myself of you, Mischief," you shot back, your friend's eyes darting rapidly between the two of you before slowly stepping away. "It's more of the other way around. We both know that I'm holding you back, so here's your exit--"
"I don't want an exit, Y/N, I want you," he insisted through gritted teeth, fighting every urge to lead you both into a more secluded corner so you could talk this out without having to shout just so you could hear each other. "I wish to be with you, regardless of--"
"Well as I live and breathe, that's a face I didn't think I'd see again." Your eyes widened hearing the voice of the man that approached you next, your pulse beating so furiously that Loki could see it pumping against your neck.
This was definitely not one of your former classmates. The man was middle-aged, his hair obviously colored to mask the silver that was peeking through at the roots as well as his eyebrows. He did what he could to dress himself in line with what was considered stylish but so clearly missed the mark. And emphasizing his age further was the clearly decades younger woman he had as his companion, looking as if she belonged in his classroom rather than in his bedroom.
"Prof--Professor Richardson," you stammered, the breathy almost fearful tone in your voice immediately putting the god on high alert. "Bianca m-mentioned you and the other guys were here tonight."
"Oh, come on Y/N it's been years since you had yourself folded into those awkward armchairs, there's no need to be so formal with me. Please, call me Simon. In fact, I should probably be a touch more formal with you, considering that one of my favorite students is now my favorite Avenger." His eyes quickly darted to the god's. "No offense, dude. You're pretty great, too. There's just something about those spandex suits, you know?"
You gripped Loki's hand tighter for a fraction of a second as the man's eyes roamed your form unabashedly, the spiteful jealousy from his companion written all over her face.
He didn't wait for you to introduce him again as someone you simply 'worked with', choosing to speak up to hopefully soothe your very obvious unease. "I must agree with you there, Y/N quite a remarkable agent." He extended his hand out toward your professor. "I'm Loki. Y/N's boyfriend."
Your breath caught in your throat in a strangled sound at the word, looking up at the god with wide eyes before trying to compose yourself again. Before you could speak, however, Simon did.
"Well if she's as remarkable a girlfriend as she was a student, then you have yourself a real catch right here. You're quite the lucky man--god, I mean." The woman next to him cleared her throat conspicuously loudly, the tail end of it sounding more like a muffled shriek, calling Simon's attention to her. He eyed her with a bit of irritation before turning back to you. "Oh where are my manners? This is Deena. I'm her thesis advisor for her graduating year."
"Oh…that's…" You were quite clearly struggling to form words. You addressed the student instead, your eyes quickly darting to the way she gripped her professor's arm so tightly before looking back at her. "Wow. You're quite the lucky young lady. Professor Richardson mentioned back then that he rarely took on the role of advisor. I'm sure your proposal was nothing short of remarkable."
The student offered you a tight smile in response, opening her mouth to speak before your former professor perked up again. "In all these years, nobody still quite measures up to you, though, Miss Y/L/N. Oh, sorry. Agent Y/L/N." He shifted his gaze to address the god once more. "It was a bleak day when I had to give her her final grade for her final course with me."
He reached his hand out toward you which you took with a slight tremor in your fingers. Loki way too easily heard the gasp that slipped out of you when Simon took your hand in both of his, pressing a lingering kiss to the back of your fingers.
"I hope to see you around some more while you're in town, Y/N." The way he rolled the syllables of your name, like he was savoring a taste on his tongue, didn't sight right with the Asgardian. He was the only one that could speak your name like that. At least…he hoped he still could.
"Yeah…s-sure," you mumbled, jerking your hand out of the professor's hand, subtly wiping the back of it on your skirt when you smoothed your hands over your dress. "En--Enjoy the rest of your night, Simon. Deena." You nodded your head at both of them before walking away abruptly, inadvertently towing Loki behind you.
As you put more distance between you and your former professor, the god heard a muffled sentiment from Simon to his companion. "Of course not, sweet thing, you know you're the only one for me."
There weren't many things that could catch the god off guard, but hearing those words from your former professor sent a slight chill down his spine, the confirmation of his initial suspicions written in black and white. Making him wonder now what your true history with the man that put both of you at a state of unease was.
"Darling, are you alright?" He held you closer to him as the crowd became denser, too many people surrounding you and pushing against you as you moved. "You're cold."
"I'm fine." He could barely hear you over the speakers. "I just need some air, I can barely hear myself think in here."
He didn't need to be told twice; this type of environment wasn't agreeable with him, either. Once you'd both stepped through the doors of the gymnasium and the air no longer tasted of alcohol and sweat, he pulled you into his arms, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead.
"What was that for?" you breathed out, the dazed tone of your voice making him hold you just a touch tighter.
He hadn't the full picture of what had your fight or flight kicking in to an extent he'd never seen on you before, but he held faith that when you were ready, you would tell him. For now, he would do what he could to at least ease your discomfort.
"Can I not simply wish to hold you, my love?"
You briefly wrapped your arms around him, returning his embrace before you took a step away from him, smoothing your hands over your dress once more. "Come on. I wanna find the lab and be done with this mission. Get back to New York sooner rather than later and all that."
His heart splintered even worse in his chest, his suspicion that your stepping away from him was more than simply physical now. That the last fortnight that he'd spent sleeping in his own apartment devoid of the simplest pleasure of having you in his arms as he slept through the night would be how he'd be spending the rest of his nights moving forward. He was at a loss for what he could do to somehow amend your relationship moving forward short of locking you both in a room and offering an ultimatum.
Tell him how he could fix the rift that was caused by Thor's callous words, or tell him that what he feared had finally found its way into your reality. Tell him that there was nothing he could do to mend the damage and that things were truly over between you.
"As you wish, little mortal."
You led him through a search that was guised as an inebriated tour through your alma mater, going through each building with information that you'd either gathered there from firsthand experience from your college years, or from information you amassed looking through testimonials of various alumni.
"Ooh! Come on, I wanna show you something that might just make you proud." You made an entire performance of stumbling toward the god and reaching for his hand, guiding him with carefully choreographed steps backwards with a few planned near slip-ups where you seemed to trip on air and almost fall bum first onto the floor before catching yourself at the last second.
"Don't you know well enough by now, darling, that you constantly impress me?" he shot back at you with a chuckle, fighting every urge to lose himself in the ruse you were both putting on. He wanted more than anything to have this be akin to those films that your fellow teammates were so fond of watching, where the couple would find an empty classroom and proceed to kiss and paw at each other like animals in heat.
He'd found those scenarios so trite before, but he found himself admitting that he was more than open to the idea if the opportunity presented itself with you. He would be willing to do just about anything with you at his side.
"Come on, Mischief," you sing-songed, giggling your way to the heart of one of the buildings dedicated for the science-centric curriculum. "I'm taking to to the lab where we used to brew our own beer. Mix our own booze. You're gonna love it, it's like we were witches brewing potions in here--"
You play-acted your way to stumbling through the double doors of the laboratory, only to be met with resistance and the visual of a thick chain wrapped around the door handles. Immediately you righted your stance, the god signaling to you that he'd taken care of the security cameras. He'd chosen to feed them footage of the two of you indulging in one of those slightly risqué scenarios in the corridor.
With a wave of his hand, the chains materialized on the floor by Loki's feet, and you pushed the doors open to reveal exactly what you'd been looking for. The tables were littered with documents and notes that were watermarked with HYDRA's sigil, each designated work station housing its own compound that when put in the wrong hands, could be utilized in the most sadistic manners.
You went on to look into the filing cabinets that held more research reports while he rounded the table that held the compound surrounded by the most amount of notes scribbled on to the logo-branded papers. He felt the bile rising steadily up his throat at the findings.
Subjects that are exposed to this compound even in its aerated form will feel an intense emotional attachment to the closest set of pheromones within their vicinity, enslaving them to the holder for an indeterminate amount of time. Potency strengthens if the compound is ingested. Theoretically catastrophic potency if somehow introduced directly into subject's bloodstream. Effects inconclusive if holder severs the emotional attachment before the compound has had a chance to be flushed from subject's system, but theoretically, the more potent the remaining dosage that is yet to be metabolized, the more catastrophic the aftermath.
"Darling, they might be experimenting on these students," Loki said grimly, rushing over to you the moment he spotted how much paler your knuckles became from how hard you were gripping the countertop. "What's wrong?"
"There are reports dating back to before you even got to Earth," you told him, the shakiness of your tone at its worst as you tried to speak through the tears bubbling up inside you. "Back to when I was still here."
He thumbed through the report that you were perusing and had to fight every urge to set fire to the entire operation and lay waste to the names that he'd found on the user tests. The most frequent one being the man that he had the displeasure of meeting earlier, Simon Richardson. "These other names, were they your other professors?" You only nodded. He didn't know whether to be relieved or even more horrified realizing that the subject names were kept confidential, hidden under monikers such as "Subject 12-29-A", "Subject 12-29-B" and so forth.
"I think the first number's the year. 12 is 2012. And the second number might be a batch number." You took a few deep breaths before straightening your stance and looking for the nearest computer, fiddling with the comms bracelet that Shuri had equipped you with before you left New York. "Shuri, are you there?"
"I am here, I am here. How is the college party? I have never actually been to one since--"
"Since you're so smart you should probably be teaching these classes, I know I know." A bit of your liveliness came back speaking with the young genius. Loki could even hear a slight smile in your voice. "Could you pull off a remote duplication? I wanna get these experimentation reports to you guys so that we can already start on next moves before Laufeyson and I even get back to New York."
"Does the sun rise in the East, my friend?" The Wakandan princess began to laugh from her end of the call, the sound filling the room. "Put your bracelet near the device and let me do my magic." You did as she instructed, holding your wrist near the computer's power source and a few short moments later, she spoke again. "All done. We will see you when you get back."
"Thanks, Shuri. We'll wrap it up here. I'll see you guys in the morning."
As you shut off your comms and both of you proceeded to place things back exactly where you found them, ensuring that you lessened your chances of HYDRA suspecting anyone had rifled through their research, there was yet another thought that led to a pit forming in Loki's stomach.
What if one of the test subjects in those reports was you?
Tumblr media
Loki laid awake, restless, in bed since you both got back to your suite, doing his best to somehow induce slumber upon himself so that he wouldn't have to fight against his mind wandering back to those reports, wondering if one of the subjects that was detailed within those pages could be referring to you. As well as fighting against the parts of him that feared you were pushing him away, forcing his hand into letting you go even if that was the last thing he would ever wish to do.
He had to make a note to give that oaf Thor a swift stab for so thoroughly jeopardizing what could have possibly been the best thing to happen to him. He was more than content with you, he was happy. He could picture what a future with you would be like.
And yes, it would be nice if your relationship would have a physical aspect to it, but that was no dealbreaker for the god. He didn't need it right this second, and for you, he would wait until you reached that level of comfort with him. At your own pace.
He would wait. Even if it meant he waited forever.
Yet here you both were now, sleeping in separate beds in separate rooms all because you believed that he would be better off with someone who had no compunctions on disrobing with him at a moment's notice. He could already feel you slipping away despite how desperately he tried to hold on to you.
The sound of your unrest had him sitting up on his bed, a series of whimpers and cries being heard from your bedroom. What got him darting out and bursting through your door, however, was your scream of "Please no I've been good to you! Why would you do this to me?!"
In a heartbeat he was by your side, cradling you against his chest and trying to wake you from your nightmare. "Shh shh, little mortal, you're safe, please wake up."
"I never told a soul I don't even look at you when there's other people please don't leave me," you kept whimpering, your words hitting the god like bullets straight to his heart. Were you having a nightmare about him?
"I'm here, my love, please. I'm not going anywhere just please wake up," he pleaded desperately, rubbing his hand up and down your back as he pressed multiple kisses to your templed. "I'm here I'll never leave you. Please darling, I love you."
You finally began to breathe a bit slower in his arms, moving so that you were looking up at him with red-rimmed eyes. "Loki?"
Had he been on his feet, the sight of you so distraught would have brought the god to his knees. "Oh my sweet mortal." He cupped your face, wiping your tears away before he pressed a kiss between your brows. He wordlessly maneuvered you into his arms so that he could carry you out of bed and into the kitchen area, fetching you a glass of water.
"I can't--" You sounded as if you were trying to speak through a lump in your throat, more tears falling from your eyes. "I can't talk about--"
"No, darling, it's alright." He placed his hands on your shoulders, trying to guide you into evening out your breaths. "You don't need to tell me anything you're not ready to."
"I want to," you insisted, keeping your eyes glued to the floor, refusing to meet his gaze. "I just--I can't bring myself to say the words, but I need you to know…why. Why I can't--" You cut off with a squeak, gripping the sides of your stool so tightly he feared the metal would start hurting you, so he took them into his hands instead. "Why I can't be with you…physically."
"Darling, please I've told you I don't need--"
"No, you should know. I…I need you to know. I just can't…articulate the words." You started breathing the same way that you would when you would run with the rest of the team, as if your body was compensating for lack of oxygen the best it could. Or as if you were preparing yourself for something particularly uncomfortable. "But I can show you."
"Y/N what are you--"
"I want you to look into my memories. I want you to see. And understand what I can't tell you with words."
He framed your face with his hands, urging you to look at him before he followed through with your request. "Are you absolutely certain, my love?" You just stared at him with your red-rimmed tear-stricken eyes, the surrender and pain in them breaking his heart more than your stoic monotonous attitude from the past weeks ever could. He pressed another kiss to your forehead. "Alright."
He pulled up a seat close to yours, bracing himself for what he would find once he entered your memories. He was terrifyingly right to have done so, because the moment he was hit with the torrents of memories, he would have been brought to his knees had he been upright.
You're such a bright young lady. Such a shame that your peers refuse to see that. How about we grab a cup of coffee? Enjoy it in the faculty area? It'll be way more comfortable than sitting on the floor for the next three hours.
I was supposed to have dinner with some of the other professors but the weather in their area has them stuck at home. Would you like to join me instead? It'd be a shame for the reservation to go to waste.
Loki had to fight back the urge to retch as the visual of Simon Richardson leaning in to kiss you hit him next. And the distant attitude that he extended to you the following day on campus as you crossed paths in the hallway.
It won't be wise for us to be seen together or else people are going to start suspecting something going on. I'll get into trouble, just because we love each other. Of course I love you, silly sweet thing, you're the only one I've ever felt this way for.
He saw multiple occurrences of the professor dropping your hand the second someone even unfamiliar to either of you rounded the corner, a guilt eating away at him as he realized he'd done the same thing with you. He simply didn't want you to have to be exposed to the judgment from the team for being involved with him.
Nobody can know. It has to be our little secret. You understand, don't you? How about we go away somewhere for the weekend? Just you and me? Somewhere where we can actually be a couple. Do couple things. We could walk around and hold hands without being scared of getting caught. I could kiss you whenever and wherever. We could just be…us.
Loki wanted more than anything to look away from the memories of your first night with Richardson. From the way that he was so careless with your body, so ignorant of your pleasure and yet he mumbled empty sentiments of love all throughout the night, insisting that he loved you despite his eyes staying empty. Calculating.
And just a few short weeks after that, and a few more nights spent at his place, you went to campus one morning. And he'd begun to go out for coffee with another student. Someone from the batch of freshmen that had just come in. Your messages went unanswered, your calls were met with the generic voice message prompt.
He discarded you once he had what he desired from you, and foolishly concluded that he could do better.
As if there was anyone better.
When he opened his eyes, his vision was blurred from his own tears, the guilt steadily wearing him down as your explanation hit him as if they were bricks being catapulted his way. Was this the reason you were so hesitant to share his bed? You were afraid that once he claimed your body, he would replace you with another?
Your words from two weeks ago haunted him. If you want to be with someone else, just promise me you'll tell me and leave me first.
"My love," he choked, pulling you into a tight embrace. "I could never do something so vile. Not to you. Never to you. I'm so sorry."
"It's fine," you answered weakly, your sniffles breaking him even more. "You didn't know." You made a motion to move out of his arms, the fear seeping into him again that you were going to completely pull away again, making him hold on to your hands tightly. Desperately. "Come on, we have to get some sleep. We're going back to New York in the morning."
"Do you wish to be alone?" He could barely form the words, desperately pleading silently for you to allow him to stay with you tonight.
"No," you confessed, shifting nervously where you stood. "But I don't want you to feel obligated because of what you saw--"
"I won't leave you." The words came out of him in a rush, his lips quivering as he pressed a kiss to your forehead again, trying to calm himself. Trying his best not to march his way back to campus and personally see to it that that wretched excuse of a man not only paid for what he'd done to you, but ensure that he would never do this to another innocent unsuspecting woman ever again.
Trying to remind himself that his need to ensure that you were alright at this moment was greater than his desire to have Simon Richardson's head on a spike.
"You say that now, but we know that one day you're going to be tired of waiting. You have needs--"
"I need you more. I want you more," he insisted, burying his nose in your hair, your presence keeping him grounded. "I promised you I would spend my days proving my devotion to you. I more than intend to keep this promise. I am yours, precious little mortal." He kissed a path to your ear. "All I want at this moment is to stay with you tonight. Let me hold you. Let me try to fight your night terrors away."
It was as if a weight was lifted off his chest when you wordlessly nodded, wrapping your arms around his neck and letting him carry you back to your bedroom.
Loki held you through the night, relieved that you didn't stir in his arms or show any sign that you might have fallen into another nightmare. However, the god was now haunted by a memory of his own. One from the first few days of your relationship.
Darling, I think it best that perhaps…we don't tell the others quite yet that we've become involved. Grant ourselves the privacy that they won't.
His own words echoed in his mind, taunting him of the monumental mistake he'd made asking you to agree to such selfish terms. How he enforced that agreement by committing actions that eerily echoed the very memories that haunted you now.
He remembered the look in your eyes when he uttered those words, asking you to aid him in hiding your relationship away from the rest of the team. When he closed his eyes he could see the crestfallen expression on your face so vividly, making him despise himself for ever causing you to mar your features with that pain you tried to hide from him.
And finally…the realization that gutted him. You never agreed to those terms. All you said in response was "That makes sense".
You simply surrendered.
"I'm so sorry, my darling mortal," he spoke into the darkness, holding you just a fraction tighter, fearing that if he let go even in the slightest, you might slip away from him. "I'll make things better. I will do right by you, I swear it."

Love & Mischief
Loki x Female!Reader
Rating: M (Mature)
Warnings: There's nothing explicit, some allusions to sex, probably language, violence, and heavy descriptions of grief and loss, although there is somewhat of a happy ending.
Word count: About 2.9k
Synopsis: You're Asgard's goddess of love and loyalty, but you've lost your god of mischief, how do you move forward?
Author’s note: This is set in Thor Love and Thunder. Also if you've ever seen the last scene of the show Reign, it has an inspiration in this fic too. I've had a lot of grief and loss in my life lately and this felt very therapeutic to write. I've tried writing for Loki a couple of times but always chickened out, so I really hope y'all enjoy this and hopefully there will be more to come!
I am no longer using a taglist! Instead if you would like to be notified when I post new fics follow my side blog @jo-writes-fanfic and turn your post notifications on!

“And what are you the goddess of?”
The words resounded in your head again and again and again.
When Hela said those words to you, years ago, you had fired back, so sure of yourself and your role in Asgard, your role in your life, your role in his life.
But now…
What was a goddess of loyalty and love who no longer had love? Who no longer believed in such things as fate and security in love?
Your powers should have died when he did.
It was an odd pairing to many, you knew. But it worked perfectly, your strengths and weaknesses worked in tandem and created a love worth fighting for.
But the fight was gone.
The god of mischief (and betrayal- some would argue) and the goddess of loyalty and love were a match made in Valhalla.
Until he was gone, ripped from you so violently that you still woke up screaming from nightmares regularly.
You sat next to your king in New Asgard during another security council meeting.
You were completely zoned out, thinking of bright blue-green eyes, dark curls, and a blade-thin smile. Valkyrie nudged you. “Hey, tone it down, you're bumming out the whole room,” she whispered.
You sighed and blinked out of your reverie, and finally noticed that the mood of the room, despite the recent good news that had been received (you can’t remember what it was - honestly, you forgot to pay attention, these meetings were very dull and tended to drone on) was altogether glum.
“Sorry,” you whispered back and reigned your mood in.
Normally, your powers were extremely helpful; tightening the bonds of loyalty in those around you, increasing love in both romantic and familial bonds, reading others moods - often influencing them, and sometimes even manipulating loyalties. But currently, drowning in grief as you had been the past several years, your powers were more of a burden than anything.
The heaviness in the room instantly lightened, and the conversation flowed in a more productive direction once more.
“We need to talk about these moods of yours,” Val said once she was satisfied that the meeting was going better.
“No thanks,” you grumbled, and promptly zoned out once more. You really preferred it when Thor was also a mess, before he got his shit together, and you weren’t the only one that hadn’t moved on from the repercussions of the war with Thanos. But you know what they say, misery loves company. And back then, no one nagged you as much to get your shit together.
“A little help here?” the king asked you, irritation in her tone.
Another disagreement had broken out, this time a fist fight. Honestly, you found it amusing and were inclined to let it go on for a while, but when Val glared at you, you stood up and clapped once.
Everyone stopped their movements immediately and looked up at you.
“Enough,” you said sternly. “Asgard, though we may have differing opinions, we all fight for the same thing, the prospering of New Asgard. Remember that,” you ordered, infusing the room with compliance, reminding them of their bonds of loyalty.
Everyone looked sheepish and sat back down.
You flourished a hand to Val and said, “My king,” giving her the floor.
She gave them all a rousing speech, it was honestly quite good, some of her best work, and then ended the dreadful meeting early, much to your relief.
“Good job, boss. Well, I’m off-”
“Not so fast,” she said as she caught your arm.
You sighed once again.
“Do we need to talk about this? About Lo-”
“Don’t say his name,” you hissed and the tension in the room raised significantly as your anger and grief filled the space, making the large room feel claustrophobic.
She sighed and took your hand.
“Look, I can’t pretend to know what you’re going through and what you’ve lost. We can all feel it from time to time and I know it’s an incredibly heavy burden. I’m just concerned for you and want to help you,” she said.
With tears in your eyes, you nodded.
“I’m concerned about me too,” you mumbled.
“What can I do to help? Tell me.  Anything,” she practically begged.
“Nothing, unless you can drag him back from Valhalla,” you muttered and brushed past her.
And life continued to trudge forward. As a goddess, never had such a short amount of years felt so long, an eternity really.
You felt as if you were stuck in a time loop and every day was close to the same.
You woke up and for a split second forgot he was gone and reached across your bed to find it cold. Then, a wave of grief hit you that was so heavy, each and every time, that you forgot how to breathe.
Eventually you forced yourself out of bed, shoved some food in your mouth as you rushed out the door and met Valkyrie for early morning training. Then you usually sat by the sea and stared as the sun rose in the sky, thinking of him but trying so hard not to. And again, you forced yourself on.
You completed your daily tasks as the King’s right hand goddess; meetings, meetings, and more meetings usually. Most nights you sat at the bar, watched Valkyrie drink an ungodly amount, then when you got bored enough you walked through New Asgard.
You walked and walked, thinking if you moved enough, if you stayed ahead of your sadness, maybe it wouldn’t catch you in the morning.
It always did.
Rinse and repeat.
There were differences of course, sometimes, you had to leave New Asgard to do the whole ambassador thing. Occasionally Thor came to visit and brought along his various cohorts and problems.
Today was one of those days. You were improving in your hand to hand combat skills, according to your King, through your daily rigorous training sessions, which pleased you since you spent most days feeling like you wanted to fight the whole nine realms. And then, following your routine, you sat on the cliffside and stared at the sea.
You never even got to give him a proper funeral, you thought, which then made you think of Frigga and the beautiful funeral service for her that you had watched through tears.
A voice called your name, you looked back and for a moment, a blink and you miss it moment, you saw him. A flash of green-blue eyes and inky black hair, your heart skipped a beat and the vision was gone.
You shook your head in an attempt to clear it, honestly these flashes of him you’ve been having lately should be concerning, but instead you clung to them, desperate for any connection to him that you could get.
Although the true sight before you was one that made you smile, as Thor came up and wrapped you in a bear hug.
You wheezed and when he finally put you down he chuckled heartily.
“How are you?” he asked and you gave him a look like he should know the answer to that question.
“Well I have something that should cheer you right up,” he said as he steered you back towards the town.
“Does it involve needing my help to fight another dangerous life-threatening bad guy?” you asked wryly.
“Perhaps….” he said.
You huffed a laugh and said, “I’m in.”
The threat you were fighting turned out to be a whole lot more dangerous and life-threatening than you anticipated.
Which is how you found yourself on a ship with Thor, Jane, Valkyrie, and Korg on an unfortunate adventure to confront the God Butcher.
Watching Thor and Jane fall back in love was not doing much for your mood. Val handed you another drink and you downed it.
“Hey, hey, you’re totally bringing down the vibe, mate. This is supposed to be about love,” Korg said to you. You huffed and rolled your eyes.
You made an effort to lessen the dark cloud you’d brought on the ship.
“Do you think you’ll ever find love again?” Val asked you, after she confessed that she’d avoided any serious relationships for decades.
“No,” you said, like it was final.
“Really?” Korg asked. “Shouldn’t the goddess of love fall in love easily?”
You shot him a glare.
“I love. I love a great many people. But true love, like soulmates and shit, that only comes once in a lifetime. And after you’ve had it, you’re pretty much ruined for anything less. So no, I don’t think I’ll ever truly find love again,” you said with a sigh.
“Heavy,” he replied and you cracked up.
You laughed so hard you snorted, and at first your friends looked at you in shock, then joined you in laughter, and the room filled with love once again, the love of friendship, and you realized you’ve been overlooking the amount of love you actually had in your life due to your grief.
You grabbed Val’s hand and patted Korg’s disembodied head, and watched Thor and Jane reignite their flame of love.
“I love you all and am grateful for all the support you’ve given me,” you said.
“No final confessions,” Valkyrie said, “this is not the end for any of us.”
You nodded and then the ship reached its destination. The shadow realm yawned open in front of your vision and you gulped.
You had this horrible feeling, like dread, in the pit of your stomach, and you saw him again. That flash you’ve seen so many times recently, but more and more frequently since this misadventure started and that dread molted in your stomach into resolve.
You were certain and you were ready.
Of course the plan went immediately sideways. You crossed swords with Gorr the God Butcher and your heart threatened to pound out of your chest.
Yes, your sword fighting skills had improved, but not enough to be a good match for a seasoned warrior and god killer.
“What are you the Goddess of? Are you even worth my sword?” he growled out.
You gritted your teeth and went on the attack. Your rage filled the space as you dodged, slashed, and pushed him as hard as you could.
You could hear your friends yelling, but you couldn’t lose your focus even for a moment as he pushed back and fought with skill beyond your own.
And you realized you’d been doing this all wrong. You were fighting without your biggest asset, your own natural gifts and abilities. The powers that made you a goddess of Asgard.
He didn’t notice your impact on his mood because your rage didn’t even touch the deep well of his own, he didn’t feel your rage due to the mountain that was his own.
No, rage wouldn’t work, you thought, and as your swords crossed again you used your other hand to grab his.
Your power was more potent when you were skin to skin.
You poured love and loyalty into your enemy, thinking only of happiness and good memories, trying to lessen his rage. Trying to decrease his fight, hoping to convince him to put down his sword.
Your breath caught into a gasp as his emotions infected your own. His love and loyalty were intertwined with an ocean of grief. Just like your own.
And you were drowning.
His emotions, his rage at the injustice and unfairness and unending sadness felt so close to your own emotions that you were thrown back into a memory.
Your worst memory, actually, the day you lost him for good. And you knew your enemy was in his worst memory as well. The origin of his grief.
Just like you watched the origin of your grief as it unfolded in front of you once more. The reason for your nightmares, the reason you woke up screaming, you stepped back and gasped as the memory overcame you.
And Gorr did the same.
You think the sound might be the worst part. Loki’s choking. Or maybe it was the snapping sound, like a branch, a snap that ended everything for him. And for you.
And then there’s the sight. You couldn’t even describe it, it was too awful to explain. You’ve never spoken about it, even in the therapy sessions your King forced you to attend.
He thudded to the ground and you gasped as the vision cleared.
You were drowning in your own grief and it was clear Gorr was more accustomed to drowning than you.
He recovered one second quicker, and your battlefield reflexes were not quite up to par.
You slashed your sword up but all it did was clang against his where it was embedded in your stomach.
All the air whooshed from your lungs.
“You are not a god that deserves death, are you?” he said as he cocked his head. “But you lost faith in yourself, in what you stand for.”
You weren’t even sure you felt the pain. Maybe the shock inhibited your ability to feel any pain. You’d been injured before, sure, but you always felt the sharpness of it. But of course you’ve never been hurt this severely.
You tried to speak, but it came out as a groan.
“I am sorry,” he said and slowly slid the sword from your abdomen and you fell to your knees. Blood gushed and you saw that flash again.
“Beautiful,” you mumbled as you saw the flash of a wry smirk, eyes full of love, and a hand outstretched towards you. Beckoning you.
Finally, you thought.
The last thing you heard was Thor roaring and your king calling your name as she caught you before your body hit the ground.
There was darkness, utter darkness, and then a solid weight beneath you.
You realized you were laying down. You were laying on the most comfortable bed you’d ever had the pleasure of sleeping on.
Sleeping? Are you sleeping? Wasn’t there something…something painful? You couldn’t remember.
You blinked your eyes open and let out all the air in your lungs.
Your eyes filled with tears, this time happy tears. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, you cried happy tears.
Loki laid beside you, close enough for you to touch, staring at you with such love in his eyes that tears spilled down your cheeks.
“Oh,” you gasped.
He reached out and cupped your cheek, wiping the tears away.
You sobbed, and he shushed you even as he pulled you closer. You buried your face in his bare chest and he crushed you against him, so tight, tight enough that you were sure he would never let you go again.
He ran his hand up and down your back, and with a start you realized you were void of clothes as well.
You awoke in the afterlife just as you would have every day of the best years of your life with him; naked in his bed after a night of making love with adoration in his eyes as he watched you sleep.
You took a shuddering breath and pulled back to look at him in the eyes once more, your hands never leaving his body, you ran them up his chest, across his face, twirled your fingers in his hair.
“This is Valhalla, isn’t it?” you asked.
“Yes, my love,” he said, and kissed the fresh tears on your cheeks away.
Then he kissed your lips. It was a delicate thing at first, but then it molted and grew until it felt exactly like it used to. The kiss cemented you to him, secured you right where you should be, where he had been waiting for you.
And all of the pain you experienced before that kiss didn’t even matter anymore. Because you loved him and he loved you, and that’s all.
His lips moved against yours and your tears mixed with his and it was perfect. You loved him, that’s all.
You weren’t angry at him for dying and leaving you alone. You weren’t drowning in heavy emotions anymore. You held no grudges or hard feelings over anyone or anything anymore, not now that you were in the arms of your greatest love once more.
“It’s been so long,” you gasped out when he pulled back and smiled.
“I know,” he said with a small smile.
“I’m sorry,” you said.
“I am as well,” he replied, simply and sweetly.
You felt light as a feather. You felt released from your pain and anguish. You were with him again, and that’s all that mattered.
“Isn’t the introduction to Valhalla traditionally supposed to be much different?” you asked.
He smirked and mischief twinkled in his eyes, “It is possible I managed to bend some rules for you.”
You huffed a laugh and pulled him into another kiss. One that could’ve lasted seconds or could’ve lasted a lifetime. It didn’t really matter. You had eternity in the hall of warriors with your Loki, and you were secure knowing you died fighting for the ones you loved.
“Would you like me to give you the grand tour?” he whispered in your ear as he pulled back from your lips and began kissing his way across your skin.
“Maybe later,” you said as you wrapped your arms around him and pulled him atop of you.
“We have an eternity,” he promised and kissed you, slow and deep.

Note: Sorry its a bit short
Summary: Loki finds a way to make sure everyone knows you are his..
‘’Loki stop- you need to chill out!’’ you yelp as you stumble through your apartment door while your boyfriend pretty much just gropes you in public. You bat his hands away properly from your chest and waist once you toss your purse, hunching forward when you feel his lips try to attack your neck next; resulting in giving him better access to your ass instead.
‘’you know I don’t approve when you surround yourself with the male mortals- I know what those animals are thinking.’’ He growled as he pulled to against him by your waist, your rump very much feeling how hard he was as you stable yourself still.
‘’you mean when I go to work? Men can be disgusting out there- but you act like something happened every day-‘’
‘’they look upon you like you are meat, lusting for you to be theirs. If their eyes are on you, its as if they had already laid their hands on you love’’ Loki reasoned, his grip tightening ever so slightly as you turn around in his arms, your hands on his chest to keep him looking at you rather than allow him to have access to your front now.
‘’and every day I reassure you that I am yours and nothing will change that.’’ You tell him, voice serious as you look him in the eyes gentle and meaning every word.
His gaze softened, knowing it wasn’t a new lecture- and you knew it wouldn’t be the last. Yet he understood, and you understood him. ever since you got to together, he had been possessive; protective as he calls it. working in the field where there was mostly male wasn’t easy, and you knew they looked at you like animals. But, nothing has ever happened and you do our best to be aware of your surroundings and let him know immediately if anything did happen- but this behavior of his seemed to get out of hand when he didn’t give a shit about doing public displays of affection in.. well, public.
‘’well.. what needs to be done so this whole.. routine could ease up for the both of us?’’ you sigh, looking at him gentle with your hands cupping his cheeks, wanting to help him.
Looking down at you with the same gentle expression, his eyes went in to thought, gazing off ever so slightly from yours before they returned to you with a knew meaning. His expression changed to something of an idea, a result- a hungry conclusion which made you take a small step back but he already began advancing.
Taking steps back only made him take steps forward before your back found the door real quick. You trusted him with your life but his usual lust state always made you nervous- because you couldn’t read him.
His hands found the wall on either side of your shoulders, caging you in and by his tense muscles, you knew he was prepared on stopping you from ducking under. All you could do was look up at him as he leaned close, his eyes dilated as he ghosted the tip of his nose against your neck, taking in your sweet scent he loved so much with a deep inhale.
‘’L-Loki…’’ you whisper with uncertainty of what exactly his plan was with the matter you were previously discussing. The feeling of his body slowly getting closer to yours made itself known before he moved a knee between your legs and the rest of his body against yours to keep you pinned.
You could almost feel him smirking as you whimpered, feeling him lightly grind his knee against your cunt as your hands gripped his shoulders. Already feeling yourself getting wet, you suddenly feel his hand gently brush your hair to the side to allow him access to your neck before the same hand cupped your jaw and turned your face to the side while his other hand stabilized your shoulder more to prevent you from moving.
Knowing exactly what he will be doing, you start struggling but he keeps you face turned to the side and your movements only helped add more friction to your cunt against his knee as you gripped his shoulders, whining while you feel his soft breath on your flesh.
‘’you want the lectures to stop, then hold still..’’ he whispered before he suddenly placed his lips against the crook of your neck.
You’ve both had sex before, not a lot of stuff he did was new to you, but most of the reasons behind his actions for some reason always made you jump. His grip on you was gentle but firm, determined to keep you still as he pressed his body more into you while your pushing back deemed useless.
His lips were soft, using a sucking motion against your skin while feeling his tongue slowly lap your skin as if it were your clit. The shear action alone made your cheeks redden and a shiver run down your skin while the hand on your jaw shifted ever so slightly so his thumb was running alone your bottom lip playfully.
Your body began to shiver, feeling him suck slightly harder while his lips traveled, licking the spot on your skin before going to attack it once more. Your skin began to tingle, feeling the blood traveling up to your skin and leaving goosebumps on your arms. You felt his knee shift in slow motions, up and down against your cunt as you moaned before your eyes opened when his lips left your neck.
Looking over his work, he smirked and playfully pulled your bottom lip down before letting go, taking a step back. ‘’alright darling, if I can’t stop the males from gazing upon you then I shall provide them as a reminder that you already belong to someone.’’ He said confidently and smirked at you dangerously as you placed a hand on your neck, as if you expected it to be gone. ‘’and you’ll be wearing them. Every. Damn. Day.’’
‘’’..t-them?’’ you whimper as he smirked, caging you in again against the wall, getting reminded just how different your height differences are.
‘’don’t think that this was the only one i planned on giving you…’’

You’re not sure what lead up to this, well you are—but you’re not sure why you let your curiosity get the best of you. It was just a normal Sunday morning, you had the weekend off so you spent your time cleaning up your apartment and finishing up some much needed laundry. Your roommate and best friend eddie had to go into work for a few hours to work on a car that needed repair. You figured you’d be a good roommate by folding his clothes and putting them away for him, since he’s out working hard, but now you’re not so sure that was a good idea
You folded up all of his dark colored clothes which mostly consisted of band tees and black jeans, heading to his room with the red flimsy plastic laundry basket to put them away. You hang out in Eddies room all the time but you’ve never had a reason to look inside his drawers before. You slowly open the oak wood drawer and begin putting his shirts away, then moving onto the bottom where his jeans were held, you squat down trying to easily maneuver the jeans to fit with the others, as you try to close the drawer you realize it’s too full and decide to be an even better roommate and re fold them for him so they’ll fit properly, as you begin taking them all out you see a vhs tape laying at the very bottom—of course your interest was piqued so you reach for it, picking it up and reading the side that had been written on, “NOT PORN” it said and you couldn’t help but giggle, that was such an Eddie thing to do, that’s why you loved him. Yes, love as in deeply, madly, intensely in love.
You met Eddie after he moved to Chicago from Hawkins. He began working at White Castle flipping burgers while you worked the register, you quickly got close due to your schedules always synching up. You would close together and closing was always slow so it left a lot of opportunity for you and Eddie to get to know each other, he’d talk about Hawkins, his friends and the life he left behind so passionately, it was easy for you to gain feelings for him. At some point you both became inseparable so you and Eddie decided why not move in together? You both enjoy each others company and two incomes are better than one, but you quickly realized you and Eddie will always just be friends. You’d have to endure multiple occasions of him fucking girls at all hours of the day, and they were never quiet, no matter how much you hoped they’d be, it was torture but after awhile it just became the new normal. It began to hurt less when you started dating, you’d never bring them back to your place to have sex but it was still nice to focus your attention on someone other than Eddie.
Tumblr media
You want to put the tape back and move on to the other house hold chores you have, but you know if you don’t find out what’s on it, it’ll be all you think about, so you continue fixing Eddies jeans, putting the tape off to the side—as you finish and close the drawer, you get up taking the tape with you and heading into the living room to put it in the vhs player. Your heart is beating a mile a minute—you’re not even sure why, it’s probably just some lame low budget porno with really shit acting, “we’ll see” you whisper to yourself as you slowly slide the tape in with shaky hands.
You step back and pick up the remote as the tape goes from static to a shot of someone’s bedroom, the camera is focused on a bed with obnoxious pink flowers on the bedsheets, nothing other than the bed can really be seen in the shot. You fast forward a bit until you see something that catches your eye and immediately press play, as you do you hear and see Eddie balls deep in some girl, the moaning is ringing out through your ears as you sit on the coffee table watching the display in front of you. Your jaw instantly drops and your stomach plummets with jealousy. You continue to watch the tape now more so out of curiosity, if you’re never going to be able to fuck eddie, why not watch him? You’ve always wanted to know what made all those girls scream like they did, and now you know why. He pulls his cock out of the beautiful brunette and she drops to her knees in front of the camera and starts sucking him off. Holy shit his dick is huge, you can’t help but clasp your hand over your mouth with wide eyes. Your best friends cock was the biggest one you’d ever seen, it totally makes sense why the girls would leave your apartment with a certain walk, all of them, limping out as if they were slightly in pain.
You can’t hold back any longer at this point, the whole thing has you worked up—pussy dripping into your panties, so you do the most logical thing you can think about in that moment. You slip off your little cotton shorts and black panties and head to the couch as you sit, you open your legs wide—throwing one over the armrest and the other on the other cushion beside you, your fingers find your bundle of nerves and you begin rubbing. You were so wet, worked up and sensitive it had been awhile since you had sex, you were kind of going through a celibate streak that lasted a little longer than intended, so you had a lot of pent up orgasms that needed release, as you move down from your clit you slip two fingers into your hole, you needed to be stretched out for sure. You were so tight, so you continued fucking yourself with your fingers while taking the other hand and rubbing your clit, the screen displayed a picture of Eddie fucking the brunette from the back while he had a fistful of her hair, slapping her ass and every once in awhile grabbing her throat. The filthiness only egging you on closer to your orgasm, you were so focused on Eddies movements, the way his face contorted, the dirty things he was saying and on your own release that you didn’t hear the door being unlocked and opened.
“What the fuck, where did you find that?” Eddie says as he walks to the vhs to eject the tape, both of your faces a dark crimson red—you were mortified, you wanted to die right then and there, you couldn’t believe you allowed yourself to get that caught up in a porno, of your best friend no less.
“Y/n” eddie says in a stern voice as he turns to look at you, he didn’t even notice you had been touching yourself to it, so intent on making sure you didn’t see the rest of it—you sat there with glassy eyes, knees together but barely covering your soaked pussy, and fingers all pruned like you’ve been swimming, your cheeks were flushed and your breathing ragged—it wouldn’t take a genius to figure out what you were doing. Eddie raised an eyebrow looking over your whole body, It’s not that Eddie didn’t want to fuck you, he did, he really really did—but he didn’t want to lose you. You had been his only friend since he had to leave his behind after the big earthquake of 86’, he had no one here in Chicago, just you—and he wouldn’t throw that away for a quick fuck. You’d leave just like they all do, and he couldn’t bare that thought—but with you sitting there half naked, and rosy cheeked he couldn’t help but get hard, his innocent best friend or so he thought, touching herself to a video of him. This was so close to every fantasy he’s ever had about you.
“What’s going on here y/n?” He says with a smug smirk
“I-I um, I was putting your laundry away and found this” you stammered
“So you decided to rub one out to it?” — “did you see something you liked?” He continues teasing
“Uh” you couldn’t even find words, you were humiliated and now he’s making fun of you, your lip begins to wobble and you drop your head in shame
“Okay, y/n it’s okay I’m just fucking with you, baby” he laughs out “don’t cry” he says as he moves closer, now sitting on the coffee table facing you—his gaze roaming your half exposed body, hungrily. Your head lifts as you hear the word baby. He’s never called you that before, sure sweetheart or bunny, a cute nickname he gave you due to a constant nose scrunching habit you have that he finds adorable, but never baby—you never want him to stop calling you that.
“Y/n you okay? Where’d you go?” He says as he snaps his fingers in front of your frozen face
“I’m okay” you whisper
“Listen, it’s not a big deal okay? So I did some porn to make some extra cash” —“I mean it’s not the way I wanted you to see my dick, but it’s okay, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about, okay sweet girl?” He says as he rubs your knee—making your breath hitch and all you can do is nod your head as you go over his words
“Wait how, um how did you want me to see your dick?” You say with the most pitiful tone you’ve ever heard come out of your mouth
He smirks as he continues rubbing, hand moving closer to your thigh “you don’t think I’ve had little fantasies and wet dreams about you, y/n?” — “what that sweet little pussy, looks and tastes like” he says voice low with a growl
“You have?” You say as your eyes widen
“Of course I have, have you seen yourself?” He says with some annoyance— Eddies always hated how much you doubt yourself and your beauty, how could he not want you? What man wouldn’t?
He was lucky he even got your friendship, you were far too good for the likes of him, well at least that’s what he thought but you never seen it that way.
“I mean, you just never said anything” you say as you finally look him in the eye, shame no longer present in your face
“Well, I can’t lose you y/n” eddie says as his movement on your thigh comes to a halt
“Lose me? Why would you lose me?” You can’t help but let out a little laugh, if only he knew how in love you are, he’d never question or think about you leaving him
“Everyone does” he says with a shrug of his shoulders
“I’m not everyone Eddie, I’m me” you say as you cup his chin and bring his eyes back to yours
He nodded his head in agreement, you’re right you’re not like everyone—you’re special, always have been. His hand begins moving closer to your inner thigh as he gages your reaction—silently asking if it was okay
You nod your head as you bite your lip, opening your legs back to assume the position they were in before he interrupted—his eyes fall to your still glistening pussy and he can’t help but to fall to his knees
“Fuck baby, look at this little pussy” — “it’s even better than I imagined” he says without taking his eyes off of it
“It’s really tight, too” you say —“haven’t been fucked good in a really long time” you continue with a voice as seductress as a siren pulling in her gullible victim
Eddies eyes snap up to yours, with a look no better described as carnal hunger
“You want me to stretch it for you, baby?” He says back, and fuck you about lost it. His dirty talk is so much better in person and when it’s said directly to you
“Yes, I do want that, so bad” you say
“What did it for you baby?” — he asks with a cocky grin —“huh?” You say face full of confusion
“On the tape, what got you worked up?” He asks curiously
“Oh um, well all of it to be honest, just you. Seeing you like that, really really made me horny” you respond making Eddies dick twitch, he loved hearing you like this — “but especially how rough you were with her, the way you pulled her hair and spanked her” you continue
“You like that kind of stuff, bunny?” — “who woulda thought” he says with a chuckle
“I’ve never done it before, but I want you to show me” you say voice almost as low as whisper
“Ok, I can show you whatever you want me to” — “whatever you’re okay with, I’m okay with” he says
You stand up and take his hand, heading off into your bedroom as you pull him along. You enter and walk to your bed, laying him down and crawling on top to straddle his lap, taking your hair out of its low bun and shaking it, then you begin to pull off your shirt—tits falling out of your little tank top “shit” eddie whispered to himself, you were completely bare for him now, and he knew he could no longer hold back—he had to give you all of him
“You’re fucking gorgeous y/n” — “the most gorgeous girl I’ve ever seen” he says looking you in the eye, face full of genuine adoration
“And you’re the sexiest man I’ve ever seen” you say back as you move closer to his lips, you give them a little teasing lick as you both giggle, before he grabs the back of your head and smashes your lips together, tongues meeting and teeth clashing, it was almost animalistic the way you both needed each other
You begin shifting in his lap, until you feel his hard cock straining in his jeans beneath you. As you roll your hips for some friction, eddies hands find your hips guiding you back and forth, your pussy completely soaking his jeans— “please take your clothes off Eddie, please!” You beg and whine
Music to Eddie’s ears, he can’t believe he has you this worked up, he feels like he’s dreaming a fucking gnarly wet dream, but he’s not—this is real you’re real and on top of him, heat radiating from your pussy as you beg for him—he could die a happy man
He gives your ass one good smack before he gently pushes you off, removing his shirt and unbuttoning his jeans, you stand up to help work them down his hips, once he kicks them completely off—you squat down and shove your thumbs into the waste band of his checkered boxers, slowly pulling them down his legs as you look up at him meeting his eyes— “oh you knew what your were doing, you little minx” eddie thought to himself
Once his boxers hit below his thighs his cock sprung out. The video tape didn’t do it justice, it was so much more beautiful in person and so hard, leaky tip an angry red. You couldn’t imagine how that stretch would feel—holy shit he’s gonna split you open
“Better in person?” He asks almost reading your thoughts
You look back up at him—“way better” you say as you lick your lips—“can I suck it?” You ask
“I have a better idea” eddie says, jumping up to lay on the bed—“come here” he motions you to climb on the bed too, but you’re lost not really knowing what he has in mind
“Sit on my face, baby” he says with an excited smile
“W-what?” You say in slight embarrassment, you’ve never done that before
“Sit on my face, I’ll eat you out while you suck my cock” —“is that okay?” He asks with a soft voice
The thought instantly breaking you out of your embarrassment—that sounded so hot, and who better to try new things out with
You climb up on the bed and turn to face Eddies legs, straddling his face and as you do he takes a deep breath, inhaling your scent—making you moan out at the dirtiness of it—“fuck you smell so good” Eddie says, voice muffled between your thighs. You bend over closer to his lower body and take his hard leaking cock in your hand, pumping it as he moans into your pussy, he begins flicking his tongue on your clit—making you moan out in turn. You focus back on him giving his lower stomach a few open mouthed kisses, following the patch of hair to his cock. You lick up all the way to his tip—tasting his pre cum as you take it in your mouth and suck, making Eddie stiffen and moan underneath you, as you continue sucking and taking him deeper, his tongue becomes relentless. Moans and wet squelches filling the space around you—eddie begins bucking his hips up into your throat, fucking your face—your eyes begin to water and you gag a couple times but you’re so turned on you don’t care. He continues his assault on your pussy as he fucks you with his tongue. You can feel your tummy begin to coil, earlier’s lost orgasm hitting you—the feeling so much more intense.
You begin to moan around eddie, making him fuck your throat harder, spit and tears coating his cock—your legs begin to shake and you can’t edge yourself any longer. You take your mouth off of him with a pop and begin moaning—“fuck yes, I’m cumming, please don’t stop!”
Egging Eddie on, making his assault relentless—as he sucks and slurps on your clit. Your whole body shakes as you fall on top of him no longer able to carry your weight, this was the best orgasm you’ve ever had—you could cry and you were, some from Eddie fucking your throat and some from complete blissed out pleasure
As you lay there while Eddie works you through your high, he grabs two handfuls of your ass, slapping and gripping—so hard he was definitely going to leave marks, but you didn’t care you’ve wanted nothing more than to be marked up by him—this was a dream come true
Eddie lifts your hips signaling you to get up
“Sorry” you laugh out
“It would be a great way to go” he says while huffing in a deep breath — you both laugh at his dumb joke as you lay there, Eddie allowing you to fully come down before continuing
“Can you, um can you fuck me in the same position?” You say shyly
“Doggystyle?” He inquires with raised brows and a smirk
“Uh, yeah” you say back unable to look Eddie in his face
“Don’t go shy on me now, princess” he laughs out
“I-I’m not, I just I’ve never done that one before”
“Hey, I like being your first for new things, there’s nothing to be embarrassed about I actually think it’s fucking hot” he growls
“Really?” You say with furrowed brows
“Yes, baby it’s so fucking sexy that I get to corrupt you and turn you into my personal whore” he spits out making your cheeks blush
You can’t help but bite your lip and nod your head, at this point Eddie could call you any name in the book and you’ll agree to it— “come on, ass up baby” he demands
You get into position, head down on the mattress as your ass wiggles in the air—you feel so exposed like this, but you’re too drunk on the idea of Eddie fucking you to care
“Mmm, this is a beautiful view” he says as he brings his palm down on your ass hard. You moan out, a reaction Eddie was not expecting—“oh you like that?” He says with a devilish smile
“Fuck, we’re gonna have so much fun princess” — “you gonna let me use you like this? Be my little fuck toy whenever I need my dick wet?” He growls as he slaps his cock against your ass—“yes, use me Eddie” you wail “shit, say that again, baby!” he demands as his cock begins breaching your pussy. You’re so lost in the feeling of him stretching you open to pay attention to what he just asked—SMACK! Eddie slaps your ass again, you never thought you’d be into being spanked but you were loving it—you moaned out again as you looked back at him with a smile—“I said say it again” he says through gritted teeth as he grabs a fistful of your hair pulling your head back towards him, plunging his cock deeper inside you “fuck, eddie use me”—-“use my pussy, please!” You shout
“That’s right, my little whore” he spits as he bottoms out inside you “fuck this pussy is so tight, goddamn” he whispers
“Fuck Eddie, you feel so good!”
Eddie begins thrusting in and out of you, pounding harder and harder as he hits your g-spot just right. You and eddie are loud—cussing, grunting and moaning could probably be heard down the block. You felt bad for your neighbors but you didn’t care enough to keep it down, it felt like heaven—better than you could’ve ever imagined
As Eddies fucking into you, you feel something wet hit your other hole— Eddie takes his thumb and begins rubbing the spit around—“has anyone ever played with this hole, baby?” He asks while continuing to fuck into you “no, never” you say as you bite your lip while looking back at him with curiosity
“Fuck, look at this little virgin asshole, can I play with it?” —“I promise, I’ll make you feel so good, princess” he begs
Butt stuff always scared you, after having a bad experience with an ex—but this is Eddie, you trust him and he promises to make you feel good, so of course you grant him access
“Yes, please” you say as you nod your head
Eddie spits another big glob right down on your pink hole, rubbing it in again and then pushing is thumb in slowly, inch by inch until his whole thumb was inside to the knuckle
“Holy shit” you mewl
Eddie stops his thrusts with his dick and finger— to check on you “you okay, baby?” He says voice full of genuine concern
“Yeah, yeah don’t stop please” you begin pushing back, fucking into his cock and thumb
He slaps your ass again, holding it with his free hand as he continues pounding into you. He’s stretching both holes out and it feels so good, too good—that familiar burning sensation creeping up, but one you’ve never felt before
“Eddie, hold on hold on!” His thrusts start slowing down—“what’s wrong, did I hurt you? Was that too much?” He begins
“No, no it’s prefect I-I just think I have to pee” you say with flushed cheeks, embarrassment washing over you
“Mmm, yeah?” He says as he starts to speed up again
“Eddie, baby please I-I can’t” you can’t even finish the sentence as the pleasure washes over you—“that’s it baby, just let go, make a mess”—“squirt all over my dick, you little slut” he growls as his free hand snakes around your waist to rub at your clit—he continues working his thumb in and out of your asshole
“Fuck, you like both of your holes filled hm?”—“like to be filled like a good little slut?” — “fuck, I knew you weren’t as innocent as you pretend to be, you’re just a secret little whore. Eddie just had to give it to you baby, that’s all you needed isn’t that right?”—his words tipping you over the edge, you cum as you scream Eddies name, he pulls his cock out and rubs at your clit with more aggression, making you squirt all over his dick as he groans out
“Fuck that was so hot”—“got my dick nice and wet, might just have to put it in your asshole” he says with a smirk
“I want you to, please?”— “please fuck my asshole, eddie”—“I need it” you whine
His eyes widen at your words “you sure baby?”
“Yes, I’m so sure, please!”—“I want you to fill my asshole with your cum” how the fuck could he say no to that?
“Fuuuck, y/n” he can’t even gather words, you’ve rendered eddie speechless
He takes his finger out and spits on your hole and on his dick, getting it nice and wet. He pushes your ass down a little so he has easier access, grabbing his cock and lining it up with your untouched hole. It’s a way bigger stretch than his finger, but he’s going so slow helping you get use to the feeling of being filled. Once he bottoms out he asks if you need a minute, you shake your head no—making Eddie thrust into you, slowly at first until you begin moaning out a “harder Eddie”
He starts fucking into your asshole relentlessly—it feels so good now. Eddies losing his composure above you “holy shit baby, fuck” —“I’m not gonna last much longer, your asshole is way too fucking tight, it’s milking my cock” —“fuck, I’m gonna fill it up, gonna fill this tight asshole up” —“Every. Last. Drop.” He says between thrusts
He grabs a handful of your hair again, lifting you up so your back is flush against his chest—he kisses your neck and shoulder as he continues his thrusts—“fuck I’m cumming” he moans out, you turn and grab the nape of his neck pushing his lips into yours, you kiss him through his orgasm, as he grunts and moans into the kiss
He pulls out with a hiss and kisses you on the nose guiding you to lay down as he grabs his discarded shirt on the floor and cleans the cum that’s beginning to seep from your fucked out hole
You whimper at the act
“You okay? Was I too rough?” He asks, you can’t get over how thoughtful he was when it came to sex, no man has ever made sure you were okay, the way he did. It made you fall even harder—getting to see him in this new light, you knew you’d never be able to go back to just being friends, but that was a topic for another day.

As you enter, you hear Leslie. It's an unusual homecoming as you're used to only the blare of the television and swaths of cigarette smoke. Both are missing as you peek into the living room.
“Now, Charles, you heard me,” the nurse chides.
“Yeah, I got it,” your dad says with less spite than usual, “this one.”
Dread curdles in your stomach. The call you got at lunchtime was short and Leslie assured you all was well but you couldn’t tell if she was only being polite. You could hear your father yelling in the background.
You look around the door frame and find your father sitting forward on the couch, one hand on the handle of his oxygen tank as his shoulders obscure his other. You tiptoe closer as Leslie sits in one of the wooden chairs from the dining room. You spot the half-finished jigsaw puzzle on the coffee table as you come forward.
“Well, give it a try,” she encourages and he pushes the piece into another. He grunts, a noise with some pride. “Looking good, Charles.”
You've never heard anyone talk to your dad like that. Not without being told to cut the shit. And no one ever calls your dad anything but ‘Chuck’.
“Yeah, yeah,” he sounds almost bashful.
“Ah, hello,” Leslie sees you first, “come on in.”
You put your bag down and cautiously inch forward. Your dad doesn’t acknowledge you but that’s not too unusual. You stop behind the couch as he puts another piece in place.
“And how was your day?” The nurse asks in a sunny tone.
“Um… good,” you answer. You don’t usually get that question.
“You look tired. Must have been a long one,” she remarks.
“Mhmm,” you stare at the puzzle as your dad continues to piece it together. You’ve never seen him do anything but watch television or doze on the couch. And rarely without a cigarette between his lips.
“Been a good day for us, too. Me and Charles are just getting to know each other,” she grins.
Still, your dad is silent.
“Charles, come on, say hi, your daughter’s home,” she scolds.
“Hi,” he grunts. She sighs.
“You’re a funny man,” she tuts and stands up, “I got another hour,” she faces you, “why don’t we have a chat?”
“Sure,” you accept and she takes the lead, waving you into the kitchen. Your father mutters to himself as he holds a handful of pieces and picks through them. You give him one last look before you follow the nurse.
Leslie turns to you as she stops just by the counter, “no more cigarettes. We got in a row about the things but I tossed ‘em.”
“Huh?” You can’t help the shock bulging behind your eyes.
“Yep, and he ate all his vegetables,” she smirks proudly, “I know it’s hard to say no to our loved ones but I don’t wanna come back to a fresh pack tomorrow.”
“Uh, yeah, I…” you don’t try to excuse yourself. You don’t buy him smokes, he finds a way, but you still gave up arguing about them.
“I also have some information for you. Some stuff about diet and all that. The meals you made are lovely but there are some recommended staples for his condition that would be better,” she explains, “and an exercise plan. Light duty but he can’t be on that couch all day.”
“Thanks so much,” you say, “I really appreciate it. I… I’m so sorry it’s such a mess-”
“Are ya kidding me? I’ve walked into much worse. He’s a bit crotchety but no skin off my back,” she scoffs, “don’t worry, hon, I got it.”
You could cry. You feel the weight slowly lifting from your shoulders; still there but less. It’s not just having help, it’s having someone to guide you, someone you can speak your concerns to. Someone who can tell you you’re doing the right things.
🧹
It’s eerie entering the house knowing that you’re completely alone. The leash is no slacker without its holder near. You still feel the oppression of the empty house, curtains drawn and shadows pooling.
It won’t be for long. The carpenter will be there soon to inspect the gazebo and the landscapers are due for their scheduled work in the garden. There’s enough to keep you busy and unaware of your employer’s absence.
Still, it’s a strange feeling to walk those empty halls. You half-expected Mr. Laufeyson to appear and berate you, as if he is a wraith who does not abide time or space. He doesn’t and you press on, holing up in the library for the morning.
There’s another mystery in the folder. A riddle you can’t solve. A page taken from a notebook, with little flowers framed around the lines. It’s a list but it’s not for this place. It can’t be. As far as you know, there isn’t a fire pit around here or a lake… both are mentioned among the clustered bullet points.
You earmark it but don’t know if you’ll ever get to it. You want to ask Mr. Laufeyson but then, you’re not sure he would even know. It could be something only his wife would be privy to. You wouldn’t want to reopen old wounds.
You go down to the kitchen to eat your lunch. A plain peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat, the same thing you have every day. It isn’t much but it’s enough to keep you going. You wipe up stray crumbs and put the container back in your bag.
The doorbell rings just as you come back to the staircase. You descend and for a moment, you let yourself pretend that this is your home. That you are the lady of the estate. That all these fine ornaments and the sprawling gardens belong to you. The fantasy dissolves as you reach the last step.
You go out to meet the new arrival at the gate. It must be the carpenter as the landscapers can let themselves in. You recall his name is Ronan from your brief phone call. You remember because it seemed so unique.
He’s a tall man, hunching slightly as he sees you approach between the slats of iron. You pull the gate open from within and muster a smile to welcome him. You’re at a loss as you can eke out only a mousish ‘hi’.
He says your name, tenuously, as if he isn’t sure.
“That’s me, sir,” you close the gate gently behind him. As he steps past you, his height becomes even more obvious. In his hand, he has a brown leather bag, squarish and bulky. “You’re the carpenter, Ronan?”
“Yes,” he answers as he looks around, “this is a nice place.”
“Erm, thanks,” you utter, “well, er, I suppose I should show you…”
You trail off and scurry around him. You hear him following as the contents of his bag shifts noisily with each step. You take him around the back and divert away from your usual route. You lead him into the thick brush that overgrows the path to the gazebo. You stop before the derelict structure as he comes up beside you.
“There’s a hole in the floor and one of the pillars is cracked,” you explain, pointing, “just wondering if it can be repaired.”
“Ah,” he takes a breath and lets out a thoughtful hum.
You peek over as his pale blue eyes examine the steps and front columns. He steps forwards and sets his bag on the lowest step before climbing up. His footsteps sound hollow as he traverses the wood, walking the perimeter, stopping to check the broken post and then the boards across the floor. He squats to get a closer look as you remain where you are, rubbing your sweaty palms together.
“I’ve seen worse,” he declares as he stands, his voice booming as he rolls into the open air. He comes back to the archway and rests his hand on the top of the railing, “definitely not a lost cause. Did you have anything in mind for the restoration?”
You shake your head, “I’d have to ask my boss.”
“Your boss?” He wonders as he comes down the stairs and bends to unbuckle his bag.
“Uh, yes, I just… I’m… the house manager?” You say uncertainly. “He’s out of town so I’m seeing to the property.”
“Oh,” he takes out a measuring tape and a level. “I thought it was yours.”
You almost laugh. It's flattering that he would assume that. You just smile sheepishly.
“Well, I’ll have to do a proper inspection, check the integrity for sure, but I’ll leave you my notes. What needs to be tended to, my suggestions…” he says, “when it’s ready, where would I find you?”
“Oh, well… I’ll… I’ll be working on the patio,” you point back to the house as the idea flashes through your mind. Without Mr. Laufeyson, you can enjoy the sunlight. “I’ll be there.”
“Right, thank you miss,” he faces the gazebo and squares his shoulders. You feel as if you’re missing something.
“Um, sir,” you begin, “would you like some water?”
You think that’s right. You should be polite. It’s what Frigga would you think and she seems to know everything.
“That’s very kind of you but no thanks,” he says as he begins up the stairs again.
You twiddle your fingers as you stay there for a moment and watch him. That wasn’t as bad as you expected. It’s always difficult meeting new people. While he’s not overly friendly, he’s not rude or scary or anything like that. He’s just there to do his work, much like you.
You turn on your heel and leave him. Your excitement builds as you trace your way to the backdoor. You can’t wait to bring your things out and sit on the patio. It will be a nice breath of fresh air. Literally.
🧹
Your first day alone proves to be the calmest since you began working for Mr. Laufeyson. You can’t help but bask in the peace of his absence. Even so, you are mindful to stay within his lines. You haven’t forgotten the camera on the mantle.
You leave the house after double-checking that the security is enabled and the doors are all locked. The gate clunks loudly into place and you shake it just to be sure. You exhale and turn off down the street, eager to get home and relieve Leslie of her duties.
The bus comes on time and you find a seat, staring out at the city as it passes. You hug your bag in your lap as you recognize that moment. That rare occasion where you’re not bound up in knots. There is no Mr. Laufeyson to shadow and rebuke you. And your father is taken care of and seemingly content.
As you get off at your stop, you take your time as the sky sets slowly above. You are met by a similar scene as the previous night. Your father is at the coffee table, bent over as he pushes pieces into each other. Leslie is singing in the kitchen as she tidies and looks up as you enter.
“Ah, hello hon,” she beams cheerily, “dinner’s in the oven for ya.”
“Um, oh, thanks, you didn’t have to…”
“More than enough,” she smiles, “long day?”
“Not too bad,” you glance back over your shoulder into the living room, “how was he?”
You turn back and she cackles, “I’m sure you know how he can be. He’s calming down a bit. We got in a right tiff over the cigarettes again but he ran out of air to bluster.”
“Oh…” you scratch your neck, “I’m sorry, I hope he’s not too much.”
“Like I said, nothing I haven’t dealt with before,” she shrugs.
You nod and return to the living room. You near your father as he rubs his chin. He’s almost done the puzzle.
“Wow, you got a lot done,” you comment.
“Eh, cause I don’t got you to distract me,” he flicks his fingers at you derisively.
You wince and back away. A sigh escapes you. You’re too tired to try. As you retreat, you can’t help but stumble in realisation. There’s something happening to you. Some sort of indifference. Apathy, maybe?
You look back at your father. You love him and you desperately want to make him happy and healthy. You want him to be proud of you. You want him to tell you that you’re good enough and yet you just don’t have the energy to keep fighting him.
When you see how he is with Leslie, it feels as if he’s taunting you. He can be nice to her, he will listen to her, he will talk to her, but you, you’ll never earn that. Thirty years and you just aren’t worthy.
Well, he is happier and healthier than he was. It doesn’t matter that it has nothing to do with you. It only matters that he’s okay. It’s all you ever wanted for him.
You take your bag up to your room and trade it for a paperback. You come back down and sit on the porch until she’s gone. You go inside and lock up, your father still sitting vigil at the puzzle. You notice his grey hair is tidy and clean. He wears a shirt that isn’t wrinkled and he looks more lively.
You ask him if he needs anything before you go to bed. He doesn’t answer. You leave him to the puzzle and pack away the dinner Leslie left for you. You’re not very hungry.
You put both your phones on the night table beneath the lamp. You keep the light on as you finish the chapter, or try to. You doze off, awaking only as a buzzing rattles the wooden table against the side of your bed.
You move the book off your chest and mark the page. You reach for the phone as you sit up. It unlocks with the tap of your thumb and the alert covers the screen. ‘Movement detected’. Oh!
Mr. Laufeyson enabled the app for the lock system while he’s away. The abrupt swipe of the phone from your hands was startling but it wasn't exactly yours to begin with. The memory plucks at you as if you should have seen this coming.
You rub your eyes as you press the alert and check the time in the corner. It’s nearly two in the morning! You jolt out of bed and stagger on your feet. Oh no!
Did you leave something unlocked? Maybe it’s just a squirrel or the wind? No, it says it was the front door. Shoot! Should you call him? Would he get the alert too?
You scramble to find some clothes. You pull on a pair of greyish blue sweatpants and a hoodie. You don’t have time to worry about how you look. You have to get to the house.
You snatch up your work bag, too frantic to fish out your change purse, and barrel down the stairs. Mindless of the noise or disturbing the silence, you race out the door, slamming it and locking it shakily behind you. You run up to the curb as you dial a taxi service.
Was the gate really locked when you left? Did you put the security code in right? A thousand doubts crowd your head and churn your stomach. It doesn’t matter, all you know is you messed up again.

Kinktober Day 22: Intoxication(A kiss is not enough...)
Tumblr media
warnings/kinks: mentions of drinking, smut, semi-public sex, teasing and flirting word count: 0.7k pairings: Dante x Fem!Reader teaser: “Wanted you for so long, baby. I was a fool for not letting you know beforehand.” taglist: @beneathstarryskies @loki-love @witchofcustom @dreadsuitsamus @pyrofanatic
Tumblr media
You wouldn’t believe anyone if they told you that Dante felt the same way about you as you did him. It was just too painful to imagine him falling for someone else while you were so deeply infatuated with him. So you played dumb and pretended that the two of you were just meant to be good friends forever. Nothing more and nothing less, and it kept you from crumbling apart.
Tumblr media
Both Lady and Nero were so annoyed with trying to convince you otherwise. There was no way Dante would truly confess, as he had the same fear as you did. He didn’t want you to fall in love with someone else while he’s so deeply in love with you.
So they decide to take matters into their own hands. If they get you both a little buzzed, maybe you’ll both be able to gain the courage to confess to one another. So after one successful mission all together, Nero and Lady suggest going out to the bar. You and Dante agree, deciding to meet at the bar after a shower and getting freshened up.
Dante’s eyes nearly pop out of his head when he sees you wearing such a tight little outfit. That dress accentuates your curves so well. It makes him hard just looking at you. When you approach him, he can smell that sweet perfume on you.
“Hey, I’m glad we can take a load off after work.” You mention, leaning against him just a little.
Dante smirks, “Yeah me too.”
The night goes on so well. You and Dante drink some drinks, while Lady makes sure you don’t get too drunk and Nero makes sure Dante drinks enough to get buzzed. It’s not long before you and Dante are singing a duet for karaoke together, laughing and having such a good time together. One might think you two were a couple. In fact, one man tried to flirt with you and Dante was so quick to swoop in and save you from that creep.
The night air hits you and soon you find yourself almost curling into Dante’s touch as he leads you into the alleyway behind the bar. Nobody is out here. Just you and him, and you’re both intoxicated enough to confess to one another.
Despite this, it turns physical really quickly. Dante cups your face in his hands, kissing you hungrily. He’s been wanting to do this for far too long. He presses his muscular body against yours, making you moan.
“Shit…” you breathe out. You’ve got such a cute little smile on your face. “Damn…you nearly ate my face,”
Dante laughs at your teasing, “Oh yeah? You were doing it right back to me.”
He leans back in for another passionate kiss, this time his knee comes between your thighs and presses against your clit. Between heated kisses, Dante begins to confess his feelings to you.
“Wanted you for so long, baby. I was a fool for not letting you know beforehand.”
Your hands guide his to the bottom of your dress, and he tugs it up over your hips. Dante has you pinned to the wall as he tugs your little panties off. His fingers play with your wet cunt, making you drip all over his hand.
“Need you,” you moan as he penetrates you with one of his fingers. “Want you to fuck me. Fuck, Dante…I love you,”
These are the words he needs to hear to fuel him. He’s quick to wrap your legs around him as he pulls his cock out of his pants. He lazily pumps it a few times before slamming himself into you. Your eyes roll back as the pleasure overtakes you. You’ve never felt anything quite like this.
His fingertips dig into the meat of your thighs as he pumps into you harder and deeper, grunting about how tight and wet your little cunt is. Your walls suck him in deeper, and the tip of his fat cock keeps slamming against your sweet spot.
“Fuck I love you so much,” Dante whines between heated kisses. He continues to pound you, your back scraping slightly against the cold brick of the building. You kiss him hungrily.
“I love you too,”
Dante grunts, quickening his pace even further as the feeling of finally confessing makes him feel even needier for you. Your cries of love are so loud, Lady and Nero wrinkle their noses in disgust as they leave the bar. Nero laughs.
“Hey, at least they know they love each other now,”Nero says.
In the alleyway, Dante’s got you in such a blissful state, you’re sure you’ll never forget just how much he loves you.

Lokius acting like husbands in s2
WARNING: Spoilers for episodes 1-3 of Loki season 2
I missed them, the way Loki immediately knows something is wrong and he's so worried for Mobius literally melts me
Tumblr media
And of course, it goes both ways:
Tumblr media
I also love how Loki's just being Loki, saying that he's fine when he's clearly not, and how Mobius won't have any of his shit
Oh and the time Mobius treated their mission like a date?
Tumblr media
"(...) and the balloon park, that sounds like it could be fun"
He literally made Loki go through every attraction that fair had to offer and through a "not-so-brief detour for refreshments" ,as Loki calls it, and for what? Surely not the mission
What amazes me the most though is that Loki knows that it's a total loss of time but he follows Mobius nonetheless, just 'cause his husband wants to do that stuff.
Tumblr media
Or are we gonna talk about the fact that Loki, during said """date""" must have been staring at Mobius's face (aka lips) to have noticed the crumbs in the following scene?
Tumblr media
And ofc, can't miss Loki patting his husband's shoulder to let him know he is there for him & calm him down when everything is just balls to the walls with the timeline (#everytouchever)
Tumblr media
Their adorable bickering/teasing
Tumblr media
Mobius: "A little over the top, don't you think, all the shadow play?" Loki: "I thought it was spot on"
Tumblr media
Loki: "I thought you said it didn't look that bad" Mobius: "I lied"
(Honestly, the whole series elevator scene was just them being an old married couple)
Tumblr media
"I was following you" "No, I was following you" "Mobius, you were clearly ahead of me"
They are so fucking cute together tho
Tumblr media
And no matter what you can't deny the fact that they care for each other
Tumblr media
Casey: "Hey Mobius? Loki was jut here looking for you" Mobius: "Loki's here?"
I mean, the tone of his voice? Please, he was so worried he almost couldn't believe it.
Tumblr media
And by the way, the first thing that they did was just run up to each other.
Mobius wasn't even mad that Loki killed/helped kill He Who Remains and sent the whole timeline to fuck itself, he was just glad to see him. And Loki? I mean, he literally barged into the war room without a care in the world because he needed Mobius to recognize him, like, wtf these two need to bone so bad.

tangle me in all your broken pieces (and watch me stay) | ch 1
Loki x Reader
Summary: An Asgardian god has just threatened your planet and you were called in to provide a little help. What you didn't expect was to develop a strange soft spot for said god, who hid more pain behind his cold facade than you thought possible.
A/N: Yes, this is chapter one. Yes, there are going to be more chapters. But one important thing to keep in mind with this particular series, is that the updates will not have a fixed schedule. This is a story I will update whenever I have time to write in between my other projects. Anyhow, I do hope you enjoy this random idea I had. <3

Fury came looking for you as a fail-safe. That was the simple way of putting it.
One of S.H.I.E.L.D's facilities had recently been attacked by someone who came from outside of your world; he'd taken what Fury called the Tesseract, twisted the minds of Agent Barton and Doctor Selvig, and worst of all, threatened to take over Earth. So when Fury came knocking on your door, on a rainy Saturday, you didn't have many options other than agreeing.
Rain pattered on the windows of your small apartment, the weather was rather cold today. You picked up two mugs from the cabinet, placed a bag of tea on each, and added hot water.
"I need you with me," Fury told you, taking the mug you handed to him.
You sighed, taking a seat on the armchair of your living room, "you're putting together a group of heroes. I'm not a fighter, uncle Fury, you know that."
"And I'm not asking you to be," he shook his head softly, leaning forward to place his mug on the coffee table after he took a sip, "if anything, I'll make sure to keep you away from any fights." He looked at you for a beat, and then; "but Loki has messed with the mind of one of my best agents, I cannot take that risk again, and you're the only one who can make sure it doesn't happen. Or fix it, if it does."
With that, you couldn't argue.
Your powers were something you had never asked for, never wanted, they simply happened. Your fourteen-year-old self woke up one day being able to pry into people's minds at will. You could feel their feelings if you wanted to, search recent memories if you focused long enough, and occasionally, do or fix much heavier damage. The full extent of what you could do was still somewhat of a mystery, now and then you caught yourself doing or feeling something new; just like that day when a stray cat had scared the shit out of you and you ended up exploding the can of soda on your hand.
After that incident a couple of years back, you had agreed to let S.H.I.E.L.D. study you just long enough to find out you had something along the lines of psychokinetic and telepathic abilities. Fury then had also told you that your big heart had given you empathic abilities as well; it was intended as a lighthearted joke, but you weren't so sure it was a joke anymore.
Because right now, you could feel hints of Fury's desperation just by looking at him. You nodded, "Yeah, alright. Give me a few minutes to pack."
─── ·❆· ───
S.H.I.E.L.D's Helicarrier was impressive, to say the least. It was an enormous aircraft that could literally disappear in a matter of seconds. Your nerves were still high even though you'd been aboard for a few days.
The main control room was the heart of the hive, so to speak. The place where most agents walked back and forth between the rows of computers, all overlooking the massive glass windows at the front of the aircraft. You stood just behind Fury's main control panels, leaning back on the big glass table. "Will Tony be coming too?" Your eyes roamed over the hustle and bustle of agents around you.
"He will," Fury didn't take his eyes off of the screens as he spoke, "was supposed to arrive with agent Romanoff, but we all know he likes his entrances."
A fond chuckle escaped you. Tony was a friend, you'd met him a few times because of Fury, he'd been a great help in figuring out your… condition, and you kept close contact with him ever since.
Out of the big windows in front of you, you watched as the ocean slowly drifted from view the higher you went into the sky. You could feel the familiar tingle in your stomach as you gained altitude fast. Maria Hill approached Fury not long after, informing him you were high enough to disappear, and so you did.
The sound of footsteps caught your attention and you turned around to see Natasha, Steve, and Doctor Banner walking in. A small frown appeared on your features when Steve handed ten dollars to Fury, but you didn't comment on it.
"Doctor Banner," Fury walked up and extended his hand for Bruce to shake, "thank you for coming."
The scientist looked around with the eyes of someone who hadn't known real peace in a while. You could feel a heavy wave of apprehension and uncertainty coming from him. "Thanks for asking nicely," he answered.
As they spoke, you walked over to Natasha, a small smile coming to your lips, "hey Nat."
Her green eyes lit up as soon as they caught sight of you, she was already opening her arms to pull you into a hug. "Hey, how have you been?"
You hugged her back just as tight, swinging gently from one side to the other. "Alright, you?"
"Well enough," she pulled away with a smirk already on her features and bumped your shoulder with her fist. "It's nice to have you around for a change, even if it's because the world is at risk."
You raised your hands in a half-hearted gesture of surrender while biting back a chuckle, "Point taken, I promise to visit more."
Fury called for your name and you turned to him, "I don't think you've been properly introduced to Doctor Banner." He gestured to his side and you reached out to shake Bruce's hand with a polite smile. "Banner, this is my niece."
Still holding onto your hand, he raised his eyebrows in a mix of excitement and surprise. "The telepath?" He looked from you to Fury.
You pursed your lips, suddenly feeling a little self-conscious. "That's me." You wondered if the people here saw you as one of the heroes too, which of course, you were not.
"I've read your file, the range of your abilities is remarkable."
Fury placed a hand on your shoulder to catch your attention. "Why don't you show Doctor Banner the lab he'll be working on? You can entertain his curiosity then."
"Of course," you buried your hands in your pockets as you tilted your head towards the door, "follow me, Doc."
The laboratory was like a playground for scientists. Filled with all the kinds of machines and computers one could hope for, surrounded by bright white walls and even brighter artificial lights that made your eyes hurt.
As the night stretched on you ended up hanging back with Bruce in his lab. His interest in your abilities didn't die down, but you found that speaking with him about it turned out to be quite easy. He was very smart, there was no doubt about that, having extensive knowledge in areas you didn't even know existed. But he was also kind.
It didn't take long for Fury to come to inform you that they had gotten a hit on Loki's location, Germany. You shared a look with Bruce then, knowing that all there was to do now, was wait.
─── ·❆· ───
"So you can just tell what everyone is feeling all the time, and manipulate those very feelings if you want?" Bruce leaned back on one of the workstations, a look of pure bewilderment in his eyes.
You chuckled, pushing yourself up and sitting on top of one of the desks. "Well, kind of. I can feel emotions if I want to, yes. Memories even, if I can focus on the person long enough. But the manipulating part is trickier," you tried to explain to the best of your abilities, fumbling with the sleeves of your black cardigan. "I can't… take away people's emotions, feelings, but I can ease them. Dull anger, or sadness, for example. But Fury believes that if there's something else intruding on someone's mind, I'd be able to counter it. That's why I'm here."
"That's fascinating," Bruce scratched his chin in thought, "it's almost like a mix of telepathy and empathy."
You hummed, "That's been my experience, yeah."
"What about the…" Bruce gestured around, and somehow you knew exactly what he was talking about.
A smirk came to your lips. You lifted your hand, and tiny white sparks danced between your fingertips, they were barely there, looking almost like a trick of the light. Suddenly the glasses that had been resting on top of Bruce's head flew to your grasp.
A genuine laugh escaped him while he muttered; "remarkable". You couldn't help but join him as you handed him back his glasses. It felt… nice, to have someone genuinely, innocently appreciating what you could do.
Suddenly, the sight of several guards walking past the laboratory's windows caught both of your attention. In the middle of them walked a man with slick black hair, wearing some sort of armor in black, green, and golden, and a devilish smirk on his lips as he looked at you.
Your gaze locked with his for a mere second, and a gasp fell past your lips as you took half a step back. Your heart was in your throat, because even through the glass windows, you could feel an immense pain squeezing your chest and suffocating your lungs. There was raw anger there too, desperation, loss. But the pain overpowered them all. And they came from him. Loki.
You gulped, forcing your gaze away so you had a chance to breathe. "They caught him," you mumbled, still feeling lightheaded from the punch he'd just dealt to your soul.
"Yeah, they did." Bruce's voice sounded far away still.
─── ·❆· ───
Loki wasn't the only new arrival, his brother Thor was also here.
You decided to hang back while everyone discussed how to proceed, leaning against the wall of the main control room as they sat around the glass table. From the camera images displayed on the screens, you could see Loki speaking with Fury, from inside the glass cage that wasn't quite built for him; he spoke with a tone of superiority that sounded like a defense.
Thor explained something about Loki having an alien army he would bring to Earth, and that he was trying to build another portal with the help of Doctor Selvig. You heard bits and pieces, after all, you weren't here to strategize attacks. Instead, your mind drifted to what you'd felt when you briefly locked gazes with Loki. His mind seemed… messy; as if he wasn't quite the only one there.
"I don't think we should be focusing on Loki." You heard Banner say. "That guy's brain is a bag full of cats. You could smell crazy on him."
"Have care how you speak." Thor spoke up, "Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard. And he is my brother."
"You mean he's never been like this before?" You finally spoke up, pushing yourself away from the wall and taking a few steps towards Thor. Your voice drew the eyes of everyone in the room for an instant. "That he's not himself?"
"Yes, Loki has always been one for mischief but never like this. My brother is not evil." The god explained.
"He killed eighty people in two days," Natasha added, raising an eyebrow at Thor.
"He's… adopted."
"I think you might be right, about him being beyond reason," you walked up to stay beside Thor, "when they brought him in I could briefly connect with his mind and… I don't know, it wasn't right."
"You mean to say he's been enchanted?" Thor looked down at you, sparks of hope dancing around him.
You could feel everyone's unwavering gaze on you as well. Your eyebrows scrunched in thought and you fumbled with your sleeves to ease the nervousness. "Kind of, yes. I felt as if he wasn't the only one in his own mind, there was something else there, twisting his thoughts and drive." You glanced up at Thor and then at your teammates around the table, "I may be able to fix it."
A rather loud call of your name captured your attention then. You turned around to see Tony Stark walking in, along with Phil Coulson.
"You always did have a heart of gold, picking up strays and insisting on fixing broken things," the billionaire said with a smile, walking up to you in that smug way only he could pull off, as he already opened his arms.
You mimicked his smile, naturally falling into his hug.
"How have you been, kid?" Tony asked while rubbing your back. He pulled away and kept a hand on your shoulder.
"Pretty good, considering an Asgardian god decided to invade my planet." You smirked back at him, stuffing your hands in your pockets.
"And now you're playing the I can fix him card, is that what I'm gathering here?" Tony pointed a finger at you, comically narrowing his eyes.
You sighed, averting his gaze, "I'm serious, Tony. If there's something invading his mind, don't you think I'd be able to counter it? That's- that's the whole reason why I'm even here."
"I think," Tony began, "you'd be able to do that, and much more. If you actually trained your abilities like I suggested-"
A groan escaped you.
"But you haven't done that, so it's a shot in the dark." He shrugged.
"If there is a chance to help my brother, I would take it," Thor spoke up, looking around to gauge everyone's reactions.
"And what if there isn't?" Steve asked, gesturing with his hands, "You said it yourself, you can't be sure. Is this a risk we're willing to take?"
"We won't be taking risks," you were quick to reassure him, taking a step forward so you were able to lean your hands on the glass table. "All I want is a chance to speak with him, nothing more for now."
"Absolutely not." Fury walked in, his steps large and meaningful as he walked up to stand before you. "You are not getting anywhere near that lunatic."
"I can accompany her to assure her safety," Thor offered.
"Thank you, Thor, but I need to go alone." You said, then turned to look up at Fury. "You called me here to help. Let me help."
Fury tilted his head, an annoyed frown coming to his lips. You knew you'd won.
"He's in pain. So much that I could feel it through the glass windows of the lab, uncle. He's not alone in his own mind. I just wanna talk to him." You pleaded. Why you suddenly cared so much about the very person who was threatening your home, you didn't know. Maybe you did have a heart that was too big for your own good.
Fury stole a single glance towards Stark, and after the latter nodded, he turned back to you. "Five minutes," he leaned just a tad closer, looking you straight in the eyes, "nothing more."
─── ·❆· ───
You closed your eyes, took in a deep breath, held it in your lungs, and then exhaled. You stared at the door that led to Loki's cell, giving yourself yet another pep talk. And then you pushed it open.
The round, glass cage was somewhat intimidating to look at. Built to contain and to kill, if needed. The artificial lights inside were bright, a contrast to the metal walls of the outside. There was a single bench in the back of the cage, but other than that, it was bare.
Loki had his back turned to you as he paced from one side to the other, hands clasped behind his back, as if waiting for something. His black and green attire stood out under the blinding lights.
Your steps were slow and quiet, you couldn't deny the racing of your heart, punching against your ribs in fear and anticipation—yet you kept an emotionless facade.
You could tell the exact moment that Loki felt your presence. He stopped pacing, waiting for a beat until, ever so slowly, he turned around to face you. His eyes were ice cold, a pale blue that made you shiver; his smirk was nothing short of devilish, worthy of a person who knew held all the cards in his hands. Loki looked at you up and down, and took a few steps forward so he stood right against the glass, as close as he could be to you. His gaze never once wavered.
"And who would you be?"
Silent. You kept silent for several moments. The nails you previously had piercing the skin of your palm in nervousness loosened their grip, a soft breath went past your lips, and your shoulders relaxed.
No, there was no reason for you to be afraid of him. Well, that would be an understatement. After all, you could easily sense the raw power and magic flowing through his veins. But that didn't instill fear in you, and neither did his empty threats. Because right now, as you finally looked him straight in the eyes, you easily slipped into his mind, his subconscious, his memories, and feelings.
More than anything, he was hurt; had been bleeding for long. But you were glad to confirm your suspicions, he was not alone in his mind; there was a plague in him, twisting and piercing into old wounds, worsening what was already there; it drove his anger and instilled fear and desperation in him for what would happen if he failed.
Looking into his eyes, you didn't feel fear. You felt sympathy.
At last, when Loki had started to look at you with a deep frown, you told him your name.
"Agent Barton hasn't told me about you." Loki's eyes roamed your features, undoubtedly determining if you were harmless or not.
"I'm afraid we aren't that close," you told him simply, keeping your voice gentle.
A low chuckle escaped Loki's lips then, "Did you come here simply by imprudent curiosity then?" He raised his chin higher. "Have you any idea who stands before you?"
You pursed your lips and took a step closer to him. His words sounded a little muffled to your ears as you struggled to focus. There was a faint burning sensation behind your eyes, a pressure in your head that spread to your entire body until it reached your fingertips. It was both familiar and unfamiliar. You'd never used your powers to this extent.
Loki had a strong mind, there was no doubt about that. Yet briefly, you could catch glimpses, a blurred array of memories even Loki tried to push away. You watched his fall from Asgard. His descent to what he thought, hoped would be the end. Until he was found. And then there were screams of pain and cries for help that nobody answered until he was forced to give up. Nothing was clear, everything twisted and scrambled, but enough to snatch your breath away and hold your heart in a vice grip.
He felt it, you know he did. The gentle whispers of you in his mind. You could tell the exact moment. All emotion and color drained from Loki's face, he took several steps back and away from you. For the first time, he wore an expression other than smug and confident. His bright eyes were wide and glimmering under the artificial lights, lips hovering open and quivering. It was a blink, a fraction of a second and then he was back in control.
"How dare you?!" He all but growled, fists closed tightly on either side of his body as erratic breaths went past his lips and nostrils. "Who do you think you are to try and pry into my mind?"
You felt as if there were cotton balls in your throat as you gulped, your vision went a little blurry. You shouldn't be feeling this way for someone who had literally threatened your home, but all you could hear right now was that same voice of his, begging for mercy.
Without a physical connection, Loki was able to keep you out of his mind pretty easily.
You sighed heavily, closing your eyes for a beat to recompose. You looked up at him then, unable to help the softness of your features. "What happened to you?"
Loki hesitated, even though he tried to hide it. He blinked, stumbling over his words; "I think you should be more worried about what I will do to you and everyone you've ever loved, you insolent, pathetic mortal."
His threats were emptier than you thought they would be. He felt exposed and was desperately trying to defend himself.
You shifted your gaze to the cameras around the room, biting into your cheek while you considered just how stupid and reckless it was what you were about to do. With your mind, you turned the lock on the door you'd just come from. In one swift stride forward, you were able to flatten your palm against the glass walls that held Loki; and with just a bit of struggle, you had him pushed and pinned against the bench on the far side of the cage.
"What do you think you're doing?" Loki snapped, he fought against the invisible force holding him, trying to get up and lift his hands, but to no avail. "Release me this instant."
"Sorry," you walked backward, keeping your eyes on him until you reached the control panel and pushed the button that opened the glass cage, "can't do that."
"If you think for one minute that your sorry excuse of magic can hold me down-"
"I know I can't." You told him as you carefully walked inside with him. He was strong, much stronger than you, and sooner or later he'd overpower you. "Not for long at least." You stood in front of him, looking down at his enraged form sitting down on the bench. "But maybe just long enough."
Right now, as Loki looked up at you with nothing but anger in his cold eyes, his lips in a thin line, and his eyebrows pulled together; you could say you felt a little scared.
Slowly, you raised both hands. Your fingers shook as you halted your movements just short of touching him. "I promise I just want to help you," you told him quietly, your eyes never leaving his.
"I will make you regret ever walking into this room," Loki spoke through gritted teeth, the muscles on his neck straining as he tried to break free.
"Maybe," you breathed, struggling to keep him in place, before unceremoniously cupping both his cheeks with your hands.
Loki opened his lips to, most likely, throw another insult at you, yet his words died in his mouth.
With your skin touching his, your soul entangling with his, you were finally able to enter his mind freely. You closed your eyes and made quick work of dissipating the plague infesting his brain, severing the connection he had with the creature that had tortured him, and freeing his subconscious from its influence and enchantment. It was harder than you wished and easier than you expected, pulling at the strings of your heart while you worked your power through him, but it was done. Loki's body was still healing from what they'd done to him, and now his mind would follow.
You also couldn't hold yourself back from dulling his pain and anger while you were at it. Trying to offer just a bit of peace to his troubled soul.
You opened your eyes again with a heavy gasp escaping your lips. Your lungs lacked air and you could taste copper on your lips. Blinking several times, you took a single glimpse at your faded reflection on the glass walls and noticed that a steady line of blood was trickling down your nose. You'd nearly gone past your limits.
With your hands still holding onto Loki, you risked a look down at him.
It was like a wave washing to shore, soft and calm after a heavy storm. His eyes slowly faded from a pale blue to a gentle green, glistening under the light, pupils blown wide as he kept his gaze fixed on you. A soft breath went past his lips and his eyebrows softened, it was as if for a brief moment he forgot where he was, and simply basked in the absolute relief of having his mind finally free. He stood bare before you.
A single tear trickled down his cheek and landed on your thumb. You brushed it away tenderly, and you thought he almost leaned into your touch. He blinked lazily then, and you saw his walls gradually coming back up.
You felt lightheaded, and with Loki coming back to himself, you took it as your cue to leave him.
Stumbling on your feet, you made your way out. You pushed the button and closed the glass door again.
Loki hadn't moved, even though you were not holding him in place anymore. He stayed seated, knuckles white as he gripped the edge of the bench and kept his gaze ahead, unfocused.
Once again, you touched the glass wall with your fingertips. It was indeed pathetic, that you felt a surge of protectiveness, of worry even, for the god who had threatened your planet.
"For what it's worth," you began quietly.
Loki's eyes drifted up to your face. His expression unreadable.
"I'm sorry for what you've been through." With that, you gave him a tight-lipped smile, and left.

Tumblr media
You had never heard of a more reverbrating sound than Helaena's smack to a poor, traumatised Daeron. "You toe licking, armpit looking, ugly garbage can!" Healeana shrieked, promptly dragging her youngest brother further away as you and Aemond scurried deeper into the safety of the darkness and shame, folded defensively onto one another, laughing your asses off.
"Oh my god," you exhale. "I am never going leaving this maze. I am going to live here, eating brambles and shit, and die here. Leave me now and prevail, Aemond. I will be fine. I'll haunt you in two to three business days."
Aemond chuckles from below you, unseen from your gaze, the mesmerised adoration he held as he can still feel his lips tingling from your desperation, still feel the curves of your body, the soft skin— he clears his throat, holding you steady by your hips before moving around until he's hovering over you as you adjusted your dress, eyes fluttering his with pressed lips trying not to laugh.
"I have a feeling dinner is ready."
"I also have a feeling your mother and grandfather knew exactly what we were doing minutes before and I fear I'd rather die here than face that."
He laughs, offering his hand and you take it regardless. "Then my mother would be glad. She didn't exactly feel the new bliss of couples between us."
You scoff. "Only because you treated me like you were cosplaying a Frost Giant." At his raised eyebrow and choked, surprised laugh, you blush. "Oh, get off with it. Your sister really likes the idea of Jotun!Loki and I am not one to kinkshame."
He strangles a laugh, peeling stray twigs from your hair. "I wouldn't dare assume. Let's go eat."
You tighten your hold on his hand, worry crescent on your forehead that Aemond straightens. "And talk?" As good as that felt, as perfect as puzzles sliding in together, you were past the age where burrowing it deep with the good parts and ignoring the pressing talks that need to be addressed.
And Aemond deserved better than that at least.
"Okay." He nods, swallowing. "Later, please."
"Okay." You try and reassure him with a smile and that seems to appease him, if a little.
Tumblr media
Once Aegon had made five jokes concerning Daeron's loud rant— he was promptly shut up by his sister smacking him in the back of the head as soon as their mother was fretting in the kitchen and their grandfather's phone pinging for his attention, spoon on his mouth that might have been a medical nightmare — dinner went smoothly.
Daeron had successfully refused to look at your general direction, or his brother, or both since you sat together, churlish in giggles, in chatter and light arguments. Aemond kept taking the nicely marinated baby potatoes on his plate to yours once you finished up your own, and exchanged it with shuffling green beans to his plate because he loves them— it's nice.
It's more than nice. It's everything you could hope for when you think about dinner with your boyfriend's family. It's a softened thought that brews to yearning. You want this. You want be sat next to Aemond like this again, making jokes, piling food onto each other's plate, ribbing with his brother until he blushed then standing up against him when it got too far— seeing the smile he sends your way, endearing, loving, and for a moment, for this one realised moment built on lies and chuckle-fuckery ease, you let yourself indulge.
You joke about spoon feeding him dessert and blush as he envelops his soft lips over the spoon, Daeron and Aegon mimicking gags while Alicent is blushing, unable to stop a girlish giggle, a sound so surprised to her own person that she hiccups.
You are with him and you give yourself strength to break his heart.
Dinner finishes off with a lazy flick, Alicent and his father descending into business talks that usually included Aemond and though you tell him you can go hang out with Helaena— Daeron and Aegon deciding on playing The Last of Us in the game room because Aegon said he needed a good cry but also to shoot things — Aemond who had taken your hand sometime ago and has been brushing his thumb over your knuckles in a soothing gesture, implores you with a look.
You swallow and give a nod, trying for another smile that fails, noticing the moment Aemond sees it fail, his brow curling, lips pursing but doesn't say anything.
As he moves to lead, he pauses, turning back to you. "Where—?"
"Your room?"
Just as he nods, Alicent's soft and embarrassed, "Keep the door open, please," pulls you both to a blushing stop.
Otto— and Helaena rifling through ice cream in the kitchen — crow simultaneous, "Alicent," and "Mom!" as Alicent raises both her hands, the wine in her right sloshing. Though she is pink-cheeked, she maintains eye contact with her son while Aemond is struggling.
"I know you're old and smart enough, young man, and you are such a lovely girl," Alicent says to you, "and I would no doubt adore the grandchildren you will provide me—"
"Oh my gods," you stifle your giggles as Aemond makes a discordant sound in the back of his throat, like a cat hacking a saw. Otto is laughing into his wine while Helaena is making gagging noises in the background.
"— but I hope to have them when Aemond's at least graduated, so that he can provide well for you." Alicent nods, blinking. You can tell that the wine is catching up to her. "He's a good boy so I'm sure he'll do right by you. But I at least want you both to be married, of course, I would prefer if Aegon or Helaena got married first but—"
"— and that's my cue to stage left, folks," Helaena says, making a face as she grabs the entire tub of cookies and cream. "If anyone needs me, I'm in my room trying to find a husband so my baby brother can get married, gods forbid he carries on with bastards from his beautiful girlfriend— whomst, by the way, is my best friend, dunno how we're forgetting my credit in all of this."
Aemond shakes his head. "They're not sleeping here, mom, and providing you grandchildren is not in my agenda." He tugs your hand, smirking as he pulls you close only to whisper playfully, "Not tonight at least."
You shiver, laughing under your breath. "I dunno if you know this, but I have these two great friends called Birth and Control."
He breaks into a laugh and that, at least, eases the tension until you round up in his room, trying to give Helaena a meaningful look but you don't think she understands it with how she salutes you with her spoon, winking audaciously.
"Here." Aemond flicks the light on and his childhood bedroom brings a smile to your face. It's cerebral, the faint blue of his textured wallpaper, the perfectly lined books, even the framed achievements. But there's also the Oasis poster, the little figurines that you know is part of some Old Valyrian battle replica he collected when he was younger, even his old fencing gear and an exact photo of it alongside his club master, his grandfather, and family friend, Criston Cole.
"It's been a while since I've been here," you tease lightly. "It's kind of funny of your mom to think I'd be the first hot girl to christen your childhood bed."
He hums, turning away as he closes the door. When he turns back, he's rolled back his bottom lip between his teeth as he looks at you with sincerity.
"It wouldn't be much of a competition to beat. You were the first hot girl I'd ever got inside my room."
"Ahh. Right. Teasing you before your growth spurt was the highlight of my week."
Aemond let out an aggressive sigh as you laugh. "I was a senior in high school when I met you, riña, this is getting ridiculous. Borderline paedophilic since I had you moaning an hour ago."
You heave, slapping his arm. "Okay, stop, you made it weird now. Gross. Eugh."
"Promise you'll stop now?"
"Fine, I promise."
An awkwardness settles before Aemond nods at the double French doors. "Wanna talk on the patio? You've always liked my room's view than Lae's."
"Yeah," you grin.  "'Cos you got the only view of the lake."
"You can barely see it with the trees. And this darkness." Reason out all he wants, but he opens the door for you, and the cool air is crisp and nice against your warm skin.
You hold out on the ledge, squinting your eyes so you can see peeks of luminous bounce of the calm lake between dark sways of forest. Once in a while, it glitters and glimmers, making itself known.
"It isn't fully true though."
"What is?" Aemond fixes his elbows, warmth pressed against yours as he stares at a fixed point of nowhere. But you can feel his tension, feel his questions he's trying to be patient to keep in. You're glad for it. Grateful. Because it gives you enough courage to confess.
"I hung out in your room because I liked hanging out with you," you admit. "Teasing you was the highlight of my day."
"Gee. Thanks."
"I was more surprised you kept letting me hang out with you when I did nothing but annoy you."
"Why do you think that is, ñuha riña?" he asks softly.
"Because you're sweet?"
The way he's looking at you... it makes you breatheless. Especially when he moves to turn fully toward you, taking you by your elbows, and you close your eyes when he leans in expecting his mouth on you, your heart dancing in the palm of his hand because it feels so, so easy to trust Aemond with it, instead he presses his lips underneath your eye, nuzzling against your nose. It shatters and remakes your heart, making you hold onto his shirt for some semblance of comfort.
"Because I've always liked you," he whispers against your skin as if it's his best kept secret. "Because I'm weak when it comes to you. Because you," he breathes against your mouth, taking your bottom lip between his teeth and giving it a tug, "make it easy to want you."
A weak laugh escapes your lips and his mouth follows the sound as if he wants to swallow it, but you press a palm to his chest. He growls.
"Easy there, tiger, that didn't sound much like a compliment."
He pulls back, holding your face. "Sorry, shit, I didn't mean— I'm not good at this. I meant... you're unattainable. Not just as Helaena's best friend but... you're cool, you're fucking gorgeous and incredibly hilarious."
"Ñuha jorrāelagon." He breathes care into the word. The word is lost on me and I force my brain to pocket it like a love letter so I can search it up. "I never thought I could be here, touching you like this." Without warning, he moulds his lips to yours in a harsh, deep kiss. It's quick but it leaves you breathless, his voice coming up ragged. "Kiss you like this. It feels like I'm in a dream and I'm struggling to let go of it. So a while ago... after..."
You nod, pressing your forehead against his, unable to look at him in the eye. You focus on touching him, your hands sliding down, making him shiver when you go underneath his shirt, skating his side until you warm your cool fingers with his spine.
"That's the thing, Aemy," you whisper. "In your head, by your words, I'm always a version to you."
He calls your name, leaning back and you're forced to see the confusion on his face.
"Helaena's best friend. Past that, an unattainable crush. Now a fake girlfriend. Someone you use to get Alys' attention, and who better than the unattainable crush? It's a pedestal, Aemy."
"It's not like that, that was a bad, convoluted—"
"But it's the truth, it's how I feel. And though that sucks, I understand." You take his hands as you step back and he's frowning harder, the lines deepen and his jaw is tight. "I knew what I was getting into, you know? But things change because I've changed."
"It's Cregan, isn't it?" he snarls, tugging his hands away.
"Oh, you jealous idiot, it's you! We've gone over this, you incredible dumbass!"
"Me? How the hell is this about—"
"— because I love you!" you shout. Then stop, inhale. Blink. Aemond copies it. It's almost hilarious. "Or I know I can be."
He works his jaw, turning away. "I don't understand."
"Okay, here it is." You inhale. "Just listen and breathe for a second, okay? Okay? Don't turn away from me." You pull him back by his chin, smiling faintly at the pout you form. "Say you understand."
He sighs, taking your hand. "Yes, I understand."
"I can't compete with someone you've loved for so long," you start softly, staring at your conjoined hands wondering if this is the last time you'll get to hold him like this. "Without you showing you can love me for more than that. I can't compete with your own ideal happy ending if I'm not part of it. I won't. I refuse." Your smile is wry, it's heartbreak and it's strings. You wish you had the energy to scream, to act like a brat and demand his heart, his promises in gold-ink and pink-veined hue. It's what your heart wants.
But you're of big age. You've seen love in its spaces, how it takes root in people, how it affects the world around you.
And you know you cannot love him if he does not make the effort to love you in the same way.
Your heart is in your throat but the words come out anyway. "Because I love you, Aemy. And I know I can fight for you. I can fight for what we have. I can wake up tomorrow and choose to love you with the same degree, if not fiercer, if I could. And I could do that again and again. That's how love works. You have to wake up tomorrow, see me, and choose to love me all over again."
You smile gently, sadly. "I can't allow myself to be loved in halves. I've done that before, I'm not doing it again. Not even for you."
You bring yourself on your tip toes— damn tall, beautiful rat bastard — and brush your lips on the corner of his. His eye closed. "I'm not going to pressure you for an answer. Alys was... Alys is a big part of what you know is love, and I respect that. I understand that it'll be hard, but I need to know if you're willing to let go of it for me. Because I can promise you I can love you. But I won't. Not without assurance that you can try for me."
"What are you asking me?" he asks softly, straightening. There's a hard line going into his body, like a dutiful student given an assignment.
"I'm asking you to think if you can see past the little statue you've made of me. See me breathing. Alive, just like this." You press a hand to his face and retrieve it back before he can hold it. He shots you a look of betrayal. "I'm going home with Hel. You know how to message me, okay? Bye, dōna zaldrīzes."sweet dragon.
His eye flick upward, shock and heartbreak and confusion moulds and twists into such a beautiful blue, mouth agape trying to find words he can't find— and you smile wryly, turning away and leaving.
Tumblr media
You get to Helaena's door quick, knocking soon after.
"Hmph!"
"You're either getting choked by a robber or masturbating, and really Hel, I need you to make two grunts to tell me the former so I can bust down the door because I don't want to see you bust a—"
The door swings wide, Helaena's face in a comical irritation.
"That is so fucked up, I hope you know— hey, hey." Her irritation sweeps into a frown as you fail to contain your watery eyes. "What happened? What's wrong? What did Aemond do? Oh, that little twerp—"
"— it's not him, it's not him, chill, I just wanna go home, yeah? Get our cakes and go, please?"
Hel's frown deepens, eyes darting back to Aemond's door.
"Please, Helaena," you beg. "I'll tell you when we get home. I'll make us special drinks."
She takes your hand, determination wound tight with concern. "Sure thing, babe. Let's go."
When you make your hasty departure to her grandfather of all of them, Alicent already in bed and the other boys still in the gaming room, cakes in hand, you tow over Helaena's baby blue buggy— she leans over at you with a hand on the ignition, whispering as if she was afraid, "You— are you meeting Cregan tonight? After, I mean." Her eyes widen. "I'm not judging, I'd never—"
"No, no, I understand. You'd never judge me for that, I know. But no. Just you and me tonight."
She smiles softly. It's not like Aemond's but they don't look that apart that it still stings. "Love you."
"Love you too, lovebug."
Loving Helaena isn't hard.
Just as you know loving Aemond wouldn't be, despite it all. But it isn't you that has issues that needs handling, and you've put everything in his court now.
And yet you can't deny your hope.

Courting Disaster
Pairing: Loki x reader
Warnings: secret relationship, mild smut (nothing graphic yet), jealousy, disastrous blind dates, swearing, mentions of "escort"....
Summary: You are the cousin of THE Tony stark, so when you enter a relationship with the God of Mischief himself you are determined to keep it low-key much to his chagrin. But your lovers meddling brother has other plans......
***this story is in collaboration with the lovely @xorpsbane , we both had so much fun with The Auction we have decided to come together for another!!! We're looking at a minimum 4 parts, maybe 5. Hold on tight, it's gonna be a wild ride!!! 😏💚🤣
Part one-
Tumblr media
"Brother, for the last time I am not interested!" You heard as you walked into the common area, seeing Loki in his chair by the window and Thor on the couch. You walked to the kitchen grabbing a cup of coffee as the argument continued "Come now Loki it will be good for you. When was the last time your "royal staff" was polished?" Thor asked air quoting making you spit our your coffee. "Lady Stark, are you alright?" Thor asked while you choked on your coffee.
"Yes, yes I'm fine. What are you two talking about?" You asked sitting on the other couch. "Well, I was simply telling Loki he needs to get out, go on a few dates." He smiled "and I told my oaf of a brother I am not interested in dating." Loki scowled. "Loki, there are many women and men here on Midgard who would jump at the chance to be with you, I don't see the problem......unless.." Thor leaned forward eyeing him "unless what?" You asked looking between them "unless he is seeing someone I am unaware of...are you Loki?" He asked.
You saw Loki's eyes shift to you before settling back onto his brother. He had in fact been seeing YOU for the past six months but you told him you didn't want anyone to know, insisted upon it. Every few weeks he would come to you telling you he was tired of hiding his affections, he wanted to show everyone how much he cared for you, and as much as you hated it you had to deny him. You wanted to shout from the roof how much you loved him, but being related to Tony, and with their past history you knew he'd lose his shit and you couldn't let him send him away, you needed to protect him.
You heard Loki clear his throat "what does my personal life have to do with you Thor?" Loki asked glaring at him "you are aren't you!?" Thor shouted making you jump "who is she brother, do I know her?" He asked excitedly, he reminded you of a huge puppy. "I..." he trailed off, glancing at you again you heard him sigh "I am not courting anyone Thor." He said emotionless, you heart stung a little at the words. "Well then I'll make you a deal. If you go on four dates of my choosing and none of them work out, you shall never hear of this again." Thor smiled leaning back.
You looked at Loki expectantly, hoping he would make some excuse to not go when you saw a smile spread across his face "Alright brother, you have a deal." Loki said smugly crossing his arms. "Marvelous, I have just the lady for you Loki, ill tell her to meet you at 8 tonight." He smiled bouncing away. You turned back looking at Loki as he picked his book back up. "Umm what?" You snapped watching him turn the page "Yes darling?" He asked not looking up. "You can't be serious! We are.." you started when he snapped his book closed "we are what? Hiding, sneaking around?" He snapped back "if I refuse my brothers deal we could be exposed, he is rather relentless." He said standing up. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have a date to prepare for." He nodded leaving the room.
You sat in silence staring at your coffee, you wanted to go after him, tell him to call it off, tell everyone in ear shot that your were madly in love with Loki Laufeyson. But you didn't know what Tony would do, what any of them would do and you couldn't lose him, it would destroy you, but the thought of him meeting a woman more appealing then you devastated you. You got up tossing your remaining coffee in the sink when Tony came in "Hey kid, how are things?" He asked smiling "oh fuck off Tony." You said pushing past him. You just wanted to climb back in bed and pretend today never happened.
Tumblr media
Loki showed up at the restaurant to meet....Tina he believed her name was, in all honesty he couldn't really remember. He only agreed to these stupid dates to teach y/n a lesson, and hopefully push her to agree to make their relationship public. He was tired of hiding and hoped a little jealousy might nudge her in the right direction. So he donned his black suit, styled his hair and plastered on his best smile as he left the tower. He walked in recognizing the woman from the photo Thor showed him and walked over.
"Oh heeey, you must be Luke." She smiled "Loki actually. And you are?" He asked holding out his hand "Tina, but my friends call me TaTa." She winked adjusting her breasts "riiight...shall we?" He asked motioning to a table. He pulled out her chair "ooooh your such a gentleman, I hope not in the bedroom though." She said smirking as he sat down. He cleared his throat opening the menu "so, Luke..." She started "its Loki." He interrupted "right, Loki, how long you lived in New york?" She asked blowing a bubble with her gum, he'd only been here five minutes and he wanted to throttle her.
"I have lived here for a few years now, how about you?" He asked trying to be cordial "Oh, I've been here all my life, never wanted to go anywhere else." She said smiling. He looked her up and down, blonde hair, she has so much makeup on she looked like a circus clown, and her top was tight enough he's surprised her breasts didn't fall out. She made a loud pop with her gum bringing him back to reality "so, Thor is what...your brother?" She asked sliding her fingers up and down the stem of her wine glass "yes...adopted." he said matter of factly. "Oh, see I thought he was the one coming..." She said still smiling "sorry to disappoint you." He said setting his menu down.
"Oh, no Luke it's fine. A lay is a lay am I right?" She laughed grabbing his arm "Loki..and I beg your pardon?" He asked pulling his arm back "Well i mean dinner is ok first, as long as we get to the good stuff next." She winked. He sat staring at her "do..do you expect me to sleep with you?" He whispered making her laugh "Well duh, I mean your not really my type but you'll do." She said pressing her breasts up again. "Wait....are you a.." he motioned in the air with his hands "you got it sugar." She winked again as he rubbed his temples. "So, where you wanna do this at? Your place...my place...we could go to a hotel." She smiled as she kicked her heel off, stretching her leg under the table, her foot meeting his member.
Loki bolted up setting his napkin down "I'm sorry madam, but I must be leaving...urgent business you see." He smiled pulling his wallet out "I'll pay for dinner and your cab home." He said setting some money on the table pushing his chair in "Hey, let your brother know if he needs me again.." She said winking again "I shall relay the message, have a nice evening." He said nodding walking as fast as he could out of the restaurant.
Tumblr media
Thor was kicked back on the couch watching a movie when Loki stormed into his room "You buffoon, where did you find that woman!?" Loki huffed slamming the door. "I believe it's called the web, not the one the spiderling has, the one on my phone, Barnes helped me. Did your date not go well?" Thor asked watching him pace "not go well!? Thor, she was a...." Loki yelled waving his hands around "a what brother?" Thor asked confused. Sighing Loki rubbed his temples "how do i explain this so your small brain comprehends......ok, you know the pleasure maidens on Asgard?" Loki asked watching as the reality set into Thor's face "she's a..." Thor started "yes, she was. So I kindly took my leave." Loki said pacing again.
"My apologies Loki, I had no idea. I will try again." He smiled "three more Thor and that's it! I will not be made a fool of!" Loki yelled storming from the room slamming the door. "Big oaf, he's lucky he's my brother." Loki said to himself heading to the kitchen, tea was definately needed. "Hey Loki, how did it go?" He heard, turning his head seeing you sitting on the table. He cleared his throat fixing his tie "Oh it went marvelous, she was quite lovely." He smiled setting the kettle on.
"Loki, i..." you trailed off "Yes darling?" He asked watching you. "Nevermind, when's your next date?" You asked looking down. "I am not sure, when Thor sets it up I suppose." He said. "You know, I don't have to go if..." he started "Loki, you know we can't." You interrupted sighing. You were both silent as Loki finished his tea "Well I've had a long night, if you will excuse me I'm going to turn in." He said heading for his room "did you maybe...wanna come to my room?" You asked watching him. "Maybe tomorrow night, goodnight darling." He nodded heading to his room.
Loki made it to his room, using his siedr he changed into a dark green shirt and sweatpants. He laid down in bed staring at the ceiling, the whole night had been a nightmare. Remembering the look on your face when he returned he was sure "I can't wait to see the look on that oaf's face when she tells everyone." He said to himself smiling, closing his eyes he was confident that tomorrow you would put an end to this charade.

You and Loki were a tangled mess. Skin on skin, breath on breath. Today is the day that marks the 100th year anniversary of you and Loki being wedded. The passion was still clearly there, and the connection was still strong.
“That feels so good” you moaned out, raking your nails down the alabaster skin on his back. He grunted at the pain and jerked his hips harder into yours. You both let out a moan of pure pleasure. You leaned up toward Loki’s neck, trailing love bites down to his collarbone, “Loki… Please…” you moaned in a plea, not entirely sure what you were begging for, but all you knew is that you wanted more.
“I know, my love, I’m right here,” Loki cooed, brushing the loose hair out of your face, before moaning at you clenching around him, “Shit, darling…” He moaned into your neck as he felt himself spasm inside of your tight cunt. You threw your head back as you began to feel a coil build up in your stomach causing you to buck against his hips, in order to get just enough friction.
“Loki.. I—” You started out in a warning moan
“Me too, my love, just wait a second for me, okay, baby? Can you do that for me?” Loki asked, panting for air, his free hand lowering down to your clit, circling it rapidly, making it harder and harder to hold your orgasm.
“Loki… I— I can’t hold it anymore!” You wept out in pleasure. Loki connected his lips to yours, tangling your tongues together in a messy kiss.
“Let go for me, beloved, I’ve got you,” Loki whispered into your mouth, in between your kisses. That was all you needed to release all over him. Waves of pleasure hit you as you bucked against Loki as he released his seed into you. A deep moan left his lips as he threw his head back. Holding his hips to yours, ensuring every drop of him remains inside.
After a few moments, Loki practically collapsed onto you. He breathed into the crook of your neck, inhaling the natural scent of you, now accompanied by the smell of your guys’ strenuous activities. Meanwhile, you laid below him, playing with his hair, twirling it around your finger, and drawing small shapes on his back.
“I love you, Loki” You sighed out in relaxation as you felt the soft patter of his heartbeat against your rib cage.
“I love you more, darling,” Loki replied. The two of you continued to lay there for a little while before Loki spoke up again, “I should run you a bath,” Loki said, attempting to get up, which was quickly stopped by you wrapping your legs around his waist.
“Don’t go.” You murmured into his neck, pressing kisses onto his collarbone. You heard Loki chuckle above you, but he listened and stayed laying down
“My love, I’m not going anywhere. I was just going to run you a bath, that was it, I swear,” Loki replied with a cheeky smile.
“Then take me with you,” You quipped, kissing him.
“My needy, needy girl” Loki chuckled, standing up, grabbing on your hips, to keep you in his arms. You tightened the grip of your legs on his waist as he got up.
He led you into the en-suite bathroom, placing you down on the sink. When he tried to tear away from you, you whined in protest. Loki cocked an eyebrow at your neediness.
“I like it when you’re nearby” you confessed, kissing his lips. Loki laughed, but accepted your kiss.
“We’ve been together for over 100 years, and you can’t let me walk 3 feet to start the bathtub?” Loki mused, caressing your cheek.
“Nope” You replied, popping the ‘p’ in “nope” before giggling and nuzzling into his neck.
“You make things very difficult,” Loki started, before flicking his wrist, magicking the bathtub to start filling up with water at the perfect temperature, “perhaps that’s the reason why I married you,”

dinner date
summary: David tries to compensate for his demanding job and swoons his girl
Pairing: David Loki x F!reader
Warnings: Fluff, language
SHARING IS CARING, SO PLEASE REBLOG
Tumblr media
David knows how you've been looking forward to this day the whole month. Ever since Crumble Crumbs opened up on main avenue, you've been counting down the days to try out the new café and bakery.
It's been a beehive since opening day, so you told him you wanted to wait a while for the hype to die down enough for you guys to enjoy a sweet little date without all the pushing and yelling.
Conyers was a small town. Nothing really new happens here, which happens to be one of David's favorite thing about it.
It's small enough for him to know almost everyone and to be predictable enough for his job.
Every grand opening in Conyers is the highlight event of the month and Crumble Crumbs has been no different; it's been the talk of the small town since then.
Everyone's been there, and word of their wide assortment of large, fresh cookies has been spreading like wildfire which only made you even more excited to finally try it.
The day is cold - sunny enough to enjoy it outside despite the winter season - as you and David walk down the sidewalk, hand in hand.
"They literally have every cookie you can imagine."
"I seriously doubt that. I mean, that's a lot of cookies. And who even is that obsessed about cookies?" David smirks, being his usual skeptical self.
"Who isn't?" You scoff playfully at him. "Cookies are seriously underrated desserts. They're crunchy and soft at the same time, not to mention salty and sweet too. They are the literally the ying and yang of desserts!"
"I'm pretty sure it's yin and yang, babe." He can't help but smile at your excitement.
"And there's a cookie for every season! Summertime? You got lemon cookies, lime cookies, coconut cookies. Fall? Snickerdoodle, peanut butter, s'mores and don't even get me started on chocolate chip."
"Alright, alright. Let's get a cookie in ya 'fore your lose your shit, cookie monster," he laughs opening the door for you.
You walk inside with a playful smack to his arm and giggle excitedly. The smell of the freshly baked goods strikes you immediately and wraps you in the warmest hug.
The café looks like as cozy as a scene from small town rom-com.
Little yellow lights strung across the ceiling glow warmly like candlelight against the pale, cold hue of the snowy streets outside that filters through the frosty windows. Bright green leaves planted on dark wooden boxes brighten the dullish red color of exposed bricks on the wall. Christmas stockings and decor hang against the dark teal bar beside the display cases of desserts.
"They got coffee in this joint?"
"Actually, they do. I'm gonna get a simple latte. How about you?"
"I'll join you and get one too."
"No black this time?" You smirk as your gloved hands lock together between you.
"You're rubbing off on me," he smiles and kisses your head. "Let's choose the cookies first and then I'll order the coffees so you can save us a table."
You and David work together to select different flavors to share between you both. You'd have one of every flavor if you could, but you know you wouldn't finish them all even with David's help.
He lets you choose first and he notices there's a a few you leave out. Not because you don't want to try them, but you feel like you should limit yourself. So, he makes a point in ordering the ones you'd left out and a couple of simple flavors he happens to love like the peanut butter and the classic chocolate chip.
You find a table to sit at near the window and take the cookies over to it as David soon follows with your lattes in hands.
Setting your gloves aside, you take turns choosing which cookies to try, chatting endlessly in between every bite and sip.
He just wants you to be happy today. He loves seeing you like this. He knows he doesn't spend enough time going on these little dates, letting routine to dominate your relationship.
He's always had trouble dating because of his job. There is no greater passion for him than helping people in need.
It's a subconscious deed that heals his inner child daily. He hadn't realized it until you pointed it out after he had told you about his rough upbringing one night.
Most of the women that came into his life felt it hard to compete with. His career always found a way of coming between his relationships until David eventually decided to give up on pursuing lasting relationships...until you came along and turned his world upside down.
At first, he didn't get his hopes up since he figured you'd eventually leave too. Only you didn't leave, nor did you hold it against him or make him feel guilty for his job.
Instead, you became his haven. His little peaceful cocoon to shelter him of all worries.
He admired that about you, the strength you had to understand and accept that your relationship wouldn't be as normal as others. Most of all, he was grateful that you still chose to stay with him knowing that.
He promised himself that he would always try his absolute best to make every rare second you had together as memorable as possible.
That's why he feels his heart sink in his chest when you both hear his cell phone ring in his pocket.
You smile at him and nod after seeing the regret on his face as he closed his eyes and exhaled sharply through his nose.
You assure him with a gentle smile and a hand on his arm that it's alright, that the call could be important or urgent. You know he wishes he didn't have to take it, but even days off aren't entirely free for him.
"I'm sorry, babe. I really am. I'll just be a minute. It- fuck," he sighs shaking his head as he reads the caller ID, recognizing it's his captain.
With reaffirming strokes of your thumb on his forearm, you already know from David's curt replies that he has to go in today.
The minute he hangs up, his heart is filled with dread.
"I'll get these to go while you bring the car around, yeah?"
He only nods and looks at you doey, apologetic eyes.
"Hey, it's alright... We can always come back. I'll make sure not to leave you any so we can come back soon," you smirk trying to poke some fun at him to ease his guilt.
He chuckles and nods as he gets his gloves back on.
"I'm taking this one with me" he says lifting the peanut butter cookie to his mouth as he stands with his latte in hand.
---
You barely see David the couple following weeks.
Despite being able to find incidental pockets of fleeting time in your schedules to just be together, David can't stop thinking about that date and all the others that he's had to cut short.
He's thankful that you're understanding of the fact that he takes his job very seriously, but he still wants to remind you of how much he loves and appreciates everything you do for him.
Dealing with an absent partner isn't easy at all and things between you aren't always perfect. His job really does take a toll on his mental health. He hadn't noticed how bad it was until the Dover-Birch case.
Convincing him to see a therapist to talk to wasn't very easy, but he realized it was necessary after Bob.
Although the girls were safe and Keller was found - fighting for his life in the cold damp hole Holly Jones forced him into - and treated at the hospital before being taken in custody, Bob and Alex were the ones that really haunted him afterwards.
The day Bob took his life repeated itself in his dreams.
Even in his sleep, he couldn't run from the stress of his job or from the failure that he felt he had been to Bob. And now, he felt like he was failing you too.
On those nights, he would wake up covered in cold sweat with hands that trembled uncontrollably. Looking over his shoulder as he’d sit up on the bed, he’d make sure he hadn’t woken you up. He’d just feel worse if he had, but sometimes when he did, you helped calm him down and he was grateful for the patience you had with him.
Having you was the only constant he had in his life. You gave him a reason to want to come home. You filled his bleak days with love and relief. You are what makes his house a home and the thought of losing you is absolutely terrifying.
Most of David’s romantic history consisted of one-night stands and short-lived relationships. Although he did really have feelings for the women, he’d had relationships with, it always ended the same way: with them leaving because they demanded more attention that his schedule simply couldn’t provide. And, even though he had tried to move things around to have more free time, it wasn’t enough for them.
David shut himself off from the world in that romantic sense after that. He felt he would only ever fail anyone he got with, so what was the point?
Then, you came along and proved him wrong. He knew he would never find anyone like you, so showing you how much you meant was important to him.
----
"Babe?" you call out.
You’re walking into the shared house you live in, sensing the delicious smell of your favorite dish wafting from the kitchen as you slide off your boots and hang your winter coat up alongside his.
"Ah, fuck" he winces lightly burning his hand on the handle of a frying pan., grabbing it in a hurry to set it on the back burner before the food in it could overcook. "In here, babe!"
Running cold water over the burn on his palm, he smiles proudly at you with a dish towel hung over his shoulder when you reach the kitchen, marveling at the romantic set dining table that was waiting for you along with lit tall candles, a bottle of your favorite wine and clean empty plates with thoughtfully arranged silverware resting upon a place mat.
"What's the special occasion?" you chuckle surprised.
He feels so proud watching you admire the effort he had put into making a simple night the most special.
"I finished the paperwork early. Worked through lunch, so I wanted to make you a special dinner, ya know?"
You grin, thanking him as he walks over drying his hands on the dish towel to grab the bottle to open it up and pour the maroon drink into a couple of glasses.
"I just wanted to do something for us... I know it's nothing special. Just dinner but…"
Your eyebrows narrow as you look at him curiously. He doesn't think it's enough to make up for his absence. He wishes he could do more because he knows you deserve more.
“But nothing. This is wonderful, Davie. Thank you so much” you complete and reassure him with a kiss. “You just made my day.”
Just knowing that he's gone out of his way to do something romantic reminds you of exactly why you stay. Under his stern facade, there's a heart of gold that he's learned to hide.
He doesn't reveal it to just anyone. He doesn't drop his guard and expose that vulnerable side with just anyone. He does that with you because he trusts you and he loves you so much.
Through these small acts of affection, you’re reminded that he’s pulling back yet another layer to let you in.
After quickly washing your hands, you take the glass offered to you. While you’re enjoying your wine, he moves around the breakfast bar to plate up the food.
Over dinner, you go on to share the highlights of your day.
Work isn't the most exciting part of your day, but every now and then, a couple things happen here and there and there’s always some gossip that you just have to share with David.
He listens to you with all his earnest attention because he loves listening to you. He could listen to you talk for days. He loves watching how excited you get to talk about your day, no matter how futile the little details seem to you because they’re details that were important enough for you to remember.
He’ll poke fun and let his sarcasm bleed through just a tad to make you laugh.
He doesn't stay silent though. He's a very honest person and he isn't afraid to share what he thinks in a carefully edited manner to avoid hurting feelings: a talent he's acquired over the years on the job.
He just adores watching how eager you get to share these things with him. His days are usually spent solving crimes that are sometimes incredibly daunting and hard to forget, so listening to you talk about your day reminds him why he decided to become a cop in the first place; to keep the town safe so genuine, kind-hearted people like you could enjoy your habitual everyday life in peace and safety.
When you ask him about his day, he's careful to leave the disturbing case details he had to type about the latest case he’d solved. Instead, he goes on to share a couple of stories shared by some of the beat cops from the job and personal lives.
They’re mostly stories about the weird situations brought on mostly by the drunks around town. One being about a crazy drunk in the holding cell stripping down and singing Chaka Khan’s ‘I’m Every Woman’. Another being about a mysterious and suspicious package that was delivered to a bank manager’s house that turned out to be a box full of dildos.
Hearing his laugh is almost like hearing angels sing. So rare, but still so refreshing to hear.  You can feel it chase away all the troubles of your day as the corners of his eyes wrinkle with each smile.
Neither of you seem to notice the time passing by. It must be the wine that he keeps filling your glasses with every time he notices they're running low.
Dessert sobers you both up quite a bit after dinner.
"I didn't make it myself, but we can pretend that I actually know something about baking" he laughs setting out the small cake of your favorite flavor from your favorite bakery.
You thank him with a grin and a kiss that he refuses to break.
You already know you want to show him how grateful you are and you know exactly how to show him what.
His kisses are warm, wet and flavored by the red wine and the sweetness of the cake as they meld against your own. He kisses you so passionately, the room seems to spin around your as his lips intoxicate you all over again.
You pull back, cradling his prickly cheeks in your hands to admire your boyfriend.
“I love you, Davie.”
“I love you too.”

You thought having Steve back would make things better. Not that they were any worse, but there couldn't have been a worse time to go through a goddamn alien invasion.
“Holy shit,” you spoke into the air, but Steve at your side elbowed you, hearing you clearly, his scowl meeting you amidst the masses of air. “Are you seeing what I see?”
“Do you have to say it like that?“
“Ah, poor, right Steve. God save him from hearing a bad word because a little star on his suit will die,” Tony Stark walked past you, catching up to overhear the conversation, teasing you with a smirk on his face. You tensed as he passed behind you, shaking your head to avoid his gaze, earning you a confused look from Steve.
Tony continued on his way, currently accustomed to you not even glancing his way when they were in the same place. His suit was almost completely shredded, an unfamiliar feeling of dread coursing through you from the pit of your stomach until you felt the heartburn in the back of your throat bother you. Ever since you saw on the news that he was proclaimed Ironman, that feeling of dread had been with you every time you saw him. You knew why, but you didn't want to give voice to those thoughts…
“For a person who's lived this many years, you're pretty bad at dissembling,” Steve spoke again as Tony disappeared down the hallway and you shook your head shutting him up, refocusing on what was important. “I can't believe I crashed a plane into the Arctic just to get this thing back to the surface before me.”
“Well, it'll be in good hands now,” you nodded in the direction of the approaching Norse god, his walk a bit overbearing as he dedicated sidelong glances at them as he approached the scepter of Loki, his brother.
“If you're done admiring it, time to go.”
Steve moved in the direction of the elevator, waving his hand for you to join him, but you shook your head in refusal and pointed him to the stairs. Your friend didn't read too much into your gesture, lifting a shoulder and resuming his walk to where the rest of the team was grouped. Just looking at them, you remembered the smug smile Fury had given you when you agreed, finally, to be part of the team, after learning that Steve would be too. He was damn lucky, that's all, because that wouldn't happen again. What were the odds of two alien invasions happening in one year, after all?
After they delivered the scepter and Loki, you'd be long gone from there, focusing on your primary mission in getting into SHIELD in the first place, which Fury had as much knowledge of as you did.
“Hey,” you greeted Steve again, meeting him just after the Norse gods disappeared.
“Hey,” he approached, wearing that brown leather jacket he hadn't let go of since the moment he touched it. The team was taking their leave behind him, each focusing on their own business from now on. As you crossed glances with Natasha Romanoff, that feeling of familiarity coursed through your body once again. It was odd, you were sure you had seen her sometime before. “Do you want a ride?”
You saw Steve shake his head in the direction of his motorcycle, moving faster than him as you sensed Tony was approaching to say goodbye.
“Is something wrong with your friend?” you heard him speak and as each time you couldn't help but compare his voice to Howard. They were so alike in their youth and adulthood. You didn't even want to think about becoming a close person in his life when you knew what you knew. If he found out about it through other means it would be a disaster. As much as you wanted to look out for his safety, perhaps as Howard would've liked, you didn't want to cross that line without figuring out all the loose ends first. That would be a problem if Fury ever thought of summoning them back.
“She's shy,” Steve replied, and you had to hold back the urge to reach back and pat his head. “Big fan of yours.”
“Really?” Tony sounded genuinely surprised. “I thought she hated me.”
“No, not at all. She studied some mechanical stuff too and admires your work from afar. But you know, never meet your idols,” you could make out Steve's smile behind your words, inwardly wincing with embarrassment.
“Well, I'm not that bad. Tell her anytime she wants we can talk.”
You heard no more of their conversation, feeling the bile travel down your esophagus to the back of your throat. How Tony could look at you and not recognize you as the strange woman who sat next to him at his father's wake was completely beyond you, but you weren't too intrigued if it helped you stay away. You didn't want him to start asking questions.
When you heard Steve's footsteps approach and the doors of Tony's red car close, you turned around to face your friend, his face of fake innocence angering you a little.
“You're an asshole,” you spat the words at him almost in a half-whisper, afraid that for some reason Tony might hear them.
“There's not that much of a lie in what I said,” the blond barely lifted a shoulder, mounting his motorcycle.
“You could've simply told him the truth: I do dislike him.”
“That's not true,” Steve shook his head, starting the motorcycle after you got on behind him.
“How could you know that?”
“He's Howard's son,” Steve blurted out, your movements slowing as you tried to get comfortable looking at him in the bike's mirror. “You couldn't hate him, even if you wanted to.”
You didn't rebut, not because he was right, but because it was the first time he'd mentioned Howard since you'd seen him after almost seventy years.
Since you'd run into him in that secret section of SHIELD, you two hadn't had much time for you to fill him in on the things that had happened, Fury jumping into the action directly telling them that the object Steve sacrificed his life for was back in the hands of the enemy and they needed to stop him. You could barely tell him about Howard's death and about Peggy as they were thrown onto the battlefield.
Now, as Steve drove you back to your apartment, all you could think about was that you still hadn't had time to have that talk. That talk where you would have to tell him a lot of things.
The smell of lavender that prevailed in your apartment did little to calm the little anxiety you felt the moment Steve closed the door behind him. A strange tension surrounded your shoulders and you were sure he felt it too, by the odd way he cleared his throat, moving into the living room, where he seemed to almost touch the ceiling of how small everything was.
“Nice place,” he commented absently, eyeing the paintings and colorful bookshelves you had in the living room and dining room.
“Sit. Want some coffee?” you ran to the kitchen, looking to escape that searing uncertainty.
“Water's fine.”
Fine. Water it is.
Returning to the living room, you found him mounted in your largest armchair, his knees too bent toward his chest for all the space he took up.
“So…”
“Are you going to tell me what happened?”
Straight to the point. You didn't blame him, he must have been too curious. You didn't even know how he'd spent those days swallowing the urge to ask.
So you got straight to the point. You told him everything that happened after he crashed the plane. You told him about his funeral, about how the government started chasing you so hard that you had to leave the country and you kept going for years only because of Howard; you told him about how Peggy went on with her life, working, founding SHIELD many years later with Howard; you told him about Howard dying in a car accident, the half-truth burning your throat. Steve didn't even think anything was wrong by the way your voice cracked and you fought to keep the tears inside, what you were realizing was harder now that he was here. You told him that you came back from Europe thanks to Peggy, as head of SHIELD, making sure to keep you under her protection, and currently you still were. Maybe you had as much power as the Director himself because of how much Peggy saw to it that the Feds didn't bother.
You told him about Peggy getting sick, about her Alzheimer's. You told him how she hardly remembered things now; she had few lucid moments and forgot things very quickly. You gave him a moment to assimilate the information when you noticed his eyes sparkling.
“But she… did she live well?”
“Very well,” you nodded, smiling sincerely.
Steve nodded, letting a little tension escape from his shoulders. The silence that enveloped you two was a little more pleasant, leaving room for you to stop overthinking about what you should and shouldn't tell Steve.
“And you… what did you do all those years in Europe?” Steve was perceptive to take the one topic you didn't delve into at all, and you sighed in defeat. “It was… what, forty-five years?”
“Yes,” you nodded in the middle of a sigh, your gaze returning to the black TV screen, Steve's eyes fixed on your profile. “I studied a lot.”
“I assumed so, but was that all?”
“You might say. I studied nine majors,” you counted mentally, remembering the pictures that were stored somewhere in that apartment, courtesy of Peggy and Howard.
Steve whistled, a short laugh following his surprised expression.
“And why didn't you want to talk about that?”
“It's not that interesting-”
“Not that interesting? Better tell me what grades you have,” Steve grumbled, not giving way for you to try to avoid the subject one more time. Being that you had only talked about it with Peggy before, you took an inspiration to remember what it was like to tell her to reminisce with Steve.
“I started with some basics. Bachelor's degrees in math, physics and chemistry. Then I moved on to some engineering: mechanical, electronics, mechatronics. Astronomy, criminology, some marketing to survive when I went back to the States and they were in the middle of the technology revolution. I was studying medicine when Peggy called me back.”
“What year?”
“First one.”
“Wow,” Steve looked at you, as if he suddenly had to see you in a different light, his eyebrows still raised in surprise. “That's amazing. You know a little bit about everything.”
“Yeah, it really helped me get some good jobs and break even so Howard and Peggy didn't have to spend so much,” you nodded in his direction, his gaze intent on everything you were saying.
“I'm glad they took such good care of you,” Steve gave a lopsided smile, the warmest, most memory-evoking smile he could have given you.
“I wish I could've repaid them for all they did for me,” you commented, with a tone of remorse and sadness that Steve picked up on instantly.
“I'm sure they were more than satisfied to know you were okay. That was their priority. You know you couldn't make those decisions for them, right?”
You nodded, lips pressed into a thin line.
Steve took in all the information you had to give him like a sponge, surely thinking that after seeing an alien invasion nothing could be that surprising. You guys spent a good while there, relaxing in your living room, placing food orders when the conversation turned to movies and series that Steve knew nothing about.
You spent an excellent rest of the day, Steve asking the odd question here and there, until you decided to watch the Star Wars movies first at the blond's request. You felt like they were back in '43 again, talking about everything and nothing at the same time, dreaming of the possibility of a life beyond what their social context allowed them.
Perhaps your dream was fulfilled in the most unexpected way possible.
-
The days ahead were now to be very careful. Steve would be spending more time at SHIELD, being that it would become basically his full-time job, and you needed to likewise spend time there focusing on your primary mission.
“What?”
Fury's eyebrows inched up, his face showing disbelief enough to make you doubt your decisions for a second, his forearms resting on his desk leaning forward. You shook your head slightly, maintaining your posture.
“I'm not going to tell him.”
“Why the hell not?” Fury raised his voice, as if for some reason your decision affected him personally.
“Because I don't want to, Nicholas. And I need you to help me cover it up.”
“Ah,” the man slumped back in his black chair, one hand rubbing his forehead as if the subject caused him as much of a headache as it did her. “Not only do you have to lie, but you have to lump me in the lying sack with you.”
“I'm not lying…! That much…”
“You do know that lies have short legs? What are you going to do when he finds out?”
“Nicholas, I need you to understand that Steve is not my priority right now. It's been twenty-one years and we haven't made any progress. I need to get to the fucking bottom of this, because whoever is behind it is still out there. I'm sure of it.”
Fury pursed his lips, barely shaking his head in a subtle nod, reluctanly agreeing with you finally.
“I'll put Steve on the front lines of every mission I can find,” Fury conceded to your request, his index finger tapping the wood of his desk like clockwork.
“Thank-”
“But you,” he raised his hand, pointing that index finger at you accusingly, interrupting your genuine thanks, “you're going to have to start thinking outside the box.”
“I have some guesses, actually.”
Fury rested his arms on the edge of the desk, leaning over to give you his undivided attention.
“Enlighten me.”
-
“So you're going back to Europe,” was the first thing you heard Steve say when you met him at SHIELD, two months after extreme missions he had to attend, barely spending a day at the facility before leaving again.
At first you thought Fury was overdoing it and offered to talk to him if he wanted to slow down, but surprisingly Steve was fine with it. In fact, he told you that it helped him deal with all the stress of having been in the Arctic for seventy years, and since you hadn't been through anything like that, you weren't going to judge.
“Yeah, evil doesn't rest,” you smiled absently at him, holding tightly to the strap of the black travel suitcase with enough belongings for a whole year.
“You know I already have a phone, right? You can call me,” Steve commented, pulling his cell phone out of his pocket and shaking it in front of her to emphasize his request.
“Yeah, you gave me your number last week.”
“Ah, I just wanted to remind you because it's been five days since we've seen each other and I just found out you're going on a one-way trip,” his reproachful voice, but with some amused tones in there somewhere, made you wince as you remembered that you had indeed forgotten to inform your friend that you were going away, for quite a long time. In your defense, you had already gone too many years without telling anyone anything, and you were just getting used to having a friend to talk to more often again.
“Sorry,” you offered him an embarrassed smile, barely earning the shake of his head from side to side. “I'll bring lots of gifts from Europe, I promise.”
You raised your free hand to the level of your head, smiling more confidently at him, with his you better response echoing in your head as you averted your gaze to find behind him Tony Stark walking directly towards where you two were standing. There was no way you could run away from the inevitable interaction with the mechanic without overlooking saying goodbye to Steve, when you weren't going to see him for probably a long time. So you tensed up, the blond reading your body language long before you realized you were being too obvious.
And just as Steve was about to turn around, Tony patted his shoulder in salute.
“Nice to see you again,” through his sunglasses, he smiled openly at you, and you had to force a tight-lipped smile under Steve's tense gaze on you. “What are they up to now? Fury called me in for a confidential thing, won't I be teaming up with you guys?”
You were quick to shake your head, Steve barely muttering a no, amused to see you so dazed and nervous in front of the mechanic.
“That's too bad. I don't think-” Tony interrupted his own words as his phone vibrated in his pocket. Answering it right in front of them, you shrank in place trying to run away from there. “Happy.”
“Tony,” the man on the other end of the line didn't sound so happy to hear it unlike Tony, who had a big smile on his face. “Why are you forwarding my calls?”
“What? No, of course not. It's just that you're on my blocking contacts when I activate do not disturb and since I was driving…” Stark lifted a shoulder, indifferent to the looks you and Steve shared in front of him.
The other line on the phone was silent for a few seconds until chaos broke out.
“Pourquoi tu ne réponds pas aux appels? Pourquoi pas une urgence? Et si ta maison était en feu?” Happy grumbled from the other end, Tony scowling at the phone as if it was the fault of technology.
“Happy, how many times do I have to tell you to stop talking to me in French? I don't under-”
“He's asking you to answer the phone when you call, maybe someday it will be an emergency,” you translated before you could stop yourself, biting your tongue when Steve sent you a raised eyebrow look with a playful smile.
“You know French?” Tony addressed you, probably as surprised as you were because it was the first time you'd actively addressed him.
“She studied mechanics in France,” your friend spoke before you could think of anything on your own, and you had to physically battle to restrain your body from punching him in the face.
Steve had to stop doing that.
“Wow. Impressive,” Tony shook his head in nods, detailing her with his eyes with genuine curiosity.
“Tony!” Happy's voice interrupted the moment that felt tense, and Tony refocused on the reason he'd entered the SHIELD facility in the first place.
“Ah,” the mechanic grumbled, moving to continue on his way. “See you guys later.”
He waved his hand as he walked, turning his back to them and you followed him with your eyes until he disappeared down the hallway. At least he was still alive.
When you looked back at Steve, that strange smile hadn't disappeared from his face.
“What other language do you speak?”
He looked like a child, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.
“I'm not going to talk to you right now.”
You held the strap of the suitcase to sling it over your shoulder and walk in the direction of the exit, when Steve snatched it out of your hands and slung it over his own shoulder, his offended look being the only thing you got back.
“Why not?”
“You need to stop saying those things to Tony,” you frowned at him, lowering your voice as if, again, the mechanic might hear them. “Don't you know that lies have short legs?”
Steve laughed like you’d never heard before, probably not even in the forties, taking his stomach for a laugh. When you went out to the avenue and he followed you with sporadic laughter, you could not help but outline your own smile, missing in advance the time you spent with him.
“I can’t believe you said that,” Steve shook his head, his face red from laughing so much. He was barely calming down when you managed to stop a cab.
“You’re an idiot,” you snatched the suitcase from his hands and gave it to the taxi driver who had just gotten out of his car. “I guess this is goodbye.”
“For now. You’re not going to get rid of me so easily this time,” Steve joked, approaching to wrap you in a big hug. You wrapped your arms around his neck, even though you had to stand on your toes to hug him tightly. The serum hadn’t given you as much height as he had. “Call me, write me or just let me know how you are. At least once a day.”
“Yeah dad,” you walked away, breaking the hug and shaking your hands casually. “I’ll keep you in the loop.”
“Take care.”
“Sure. You take care of Peggy,” his eyes softened, the mere memory of Peggy returning him.
“Of course.”
His warm smile was the last thing you saw before getting into the cab.
