Out of all the siblings, legolas is the slowest to anger (this is a hc about my au). Unless you legitimately do something to piss him off, like put his loved ones in danger, he will take everything in stride with an air of nonchalance. It’s not that he doesn’t care, it’s just that he’s immortal and thinks it’s way to exhausting to get mad at every little thing. Especially given the circumstances of him growing up in greenwood/mirkwood where there’s always something happening.
As a result, on the quest legolas comes across as very casual about the quest to those who don’t know him. Bc on one hand, yeah it’s an important task, but on the other hand he isn’t really afraid or interested in fucking up bc he let his emotions get out of control.
Besides, outside of Aragorn, Legolas liked the questers well enough, but not to the point where he’d rage at someone threatening them. That changed more over time, obviously, but the fact of the matter is that in the beginning he would have sacrificed any of the walkers, minus aragorn, in a heart beat if it meant succeeding. Thankfully, he isn’t so paranoid or malicious that he felt he would need to, so he just stayed the nice, casual, chill elf he is throughout the quest.
I cannot stress enough how, on one hand, yes, legolas knew and thought the quest and subsequent battles important, on the other hand: fuck it, it’s just a normal day for him. What’s one more battle?
Not enough troops? Outnumbered? Dirty and tired and hopeless? Well damn, that’s happened so often at that point he doesn’t bat an eye.
Legolas is intimately familiar with the death and despair the likes of sauron causes, so he chooses the act positive, he chooses to be casual and happy. He’s not oblivious to the growing shadow, he just refuses to let sauron dictate his life any more than he already is.
It does result him in looking very flighty to his cowalkers though.
*at aragorn and Arwen’s wedding*
Faramir, musing: you know, legolas is much less serious than i would have thought an elf to be. He’s a very light hearted and happy individual and i don’t think i’ve seen him mad at all during the time that i’ve known him. Even during the battles against sauron.
Silvan elf, who overheard him: no one’s managed to piss him off in over a century, and that’s a good thing. Trust me, that’s not an elf who’s temper you want to test, because once you do, it’s quite terrifying.
Eomer, approaching them: really? Because i know i made him mad when i had threatened gimli during our first encounter on the plains.
Silvan: *snorting* trust me, if he actually felt threatened, he’d have lobbed your head off before you even finished drawing your weapon. It’s just a good thing it wasn’t one of his siblings on this quest instead of him. The rest of them are not only 10 times as quick to anger, but are also a lot more vicious and deadly.
Faramir: is that so?
Silvan: yeah, don’t get me wrong, legolas is definitely strong even for most elves, but his family’s just straight up made up of monsters, and he is the weaker one. Not weak, just the weakest of that family.

When Thorin gave Bilbo the Mithril chainmail shirt, he said it was made for an Elven prince.
The only Elven prince that was born in any of the 4 Elven realms since the founding of Erebor is Legolas.
Frodo is wearing Legolas's baby clothes in LOTR.

You know according to tolkien's legend, the accounts of middle earth came to the author via Hobbits and the manuscripts left behind.
In the eyes of Hobbits elves were is super kind dudes who gave them food and shelter but in context it was only because Bilbo was with Gandalf on a fucking journey to reclaim Erebor and the rest of hobbits were in the main plan to kill literal Satan.
And about the manuscript thing, the relics only survive when they're kept in best condition. Elves were the superior species of middle earth with advance technology so,their version of history could be best preserved.
I'm not saying that all elves where bad or something, What I'm saying is what if the middle earth history has an authorship bias. There are so many instances in which flawed deeds of elves are hidden in flowery language such as Eöl took (unwilling)Aredhel as his wife. How at many instance which you read about Galadriel, in subtext she seems like a power hungry absolutist but her causes are always shown as one of a noble lady fighting for a great cause. Only flawed elves are shown in Silmarillion.
So, what if elves were flawed like the second born and other creatures of Middle earth but they always appeared noble and great due to authorship bias.
And by authorship bias,I don't mean authorship bias by tolkien but if we go according to the myth of middle earth by tolkien, then it's the authorship bias of whoever write the said history of middle earth which tolkien later found and translated. So, it's not Tolkien fault because he's translating what he's given but the fault lies in the hands of whoever wrote the original verses.
Why I'm rambling all these? It's because we were studying about authorship bias and bending of actual events while writing the history. It made of think about the history of middle earth.

Summary:
Wonders and miracles were not something the mountain had seen in a while. You see, miracles were different from terror. Poisoned magic was still magic, but it did not have the same feel. The dragon was not poison, but the magic it brought with it was.
Come and learn the stories of Erebor's magic, for it has plenty left to share.

Me: *jerks awake at 3am in bed* what if I seperate the Noldor/vanyar/teleri/sindar elves from the silvan and avari elves by referring to the Ainur touched elves (aka the Noldor/vanyar/teleri/sindar) as “light elves”, and the elves who refused the ruling of the Ainur (aka the silvans and avari) are called “dark elves”?
This could further be compounded by the “light elves” preferring to work and function during the day, while the “dark elves” prefer the night!
And, and, and by separating the two groups into “light” and “dark” elves, in-text it would perfectly encapsulate not only the distinction between the two opposite perspectives of the 2 groups, but also the way the Ainur touched elves view themselves as superior because they had direct contact with the Ainur by referring to themselves as “light” elves (but now in reference to being better than dark elves, not just as a description)!

When all the Company had crossed, they sat and rested and ate a little food; and Legolas told them tales of Lothlórien that the Elves of Mirkwood still kept in their hearts, of sunlight and starlight upon the meadows by the Great River before the world was grey.

Continuing with my winners write the history and authorship bias
It's okay for Melian to enchant Thingol but when Eöl does it with Aredhel it's wrong. Noldors are always right and noble while outsiders are uncouth and primitive, savages who rapes and deceives people?
I have a full blown analysis(?) over it and I'll expand upon this later.

You were the light and the rock in our lives until ada took his last breath, but we were always only a chapter in yours.
- When we stand together (Tales Untold #15)
The last chapter of my Tales Untold series is now online, finishing with 15 parts and ~ 850,000 words, in Fo.A. 120, with the good-bye from Aragorn, and Legolas and his family traveling to Aman.
I got long tired of marketing since people have been widely ignoring this from the start, but hey, at least I can say it’s finished now. Cheers!
