“Look
Listen
Wonder
Receive
For the clouds in the sky
And the wind in the trees
The stars in the ether
And wood in its glory
Are painters and poets and tellers of stories.”

painting walls a pale green,
covering old fights
with strokes of paint,
solemn and cathartic.
my mom used to
paint with me—
she used to tell me,
“painting on top of
old paintings is ok
because you’re making
something new from
the bad”
oh, mom
how you were
right

Moments
Captivating my every thought
I see in monochromatic purple
Tints I have never seen before
Tones that make me talk about the shades
Shades of tears, struggles, darkness
Spilling out secrets onto this canvas
The Canvas I present to you is myself
Full Color; strokes, blobs, the mess
Hidden within it is the art
Peaking through is me
Suddenly there is more color
Brighter than before
Tints of smiles, love, trust
Less of a mess and more like a masterpiece
Now this canvas is us
