Just a little bit where Bucky offers you a better job.
Tumblr media
Pairing -> CEO!Bucky Barnes x Assistant!Female!Reader
Warnings -> 18+, Minors DNI, smut, thigh riding
A/N -> @lanabuckybarnes the better version of the Drabble I sent to you, bbg.
“Mr. Barnes, I-I wanted to ask for a bit more money for the job I do for you,” you ask, shyly while you play with your fingers in your lap. You have thought about a hundreds way to ask him for more money and now, where you’re sitting in front of him those are the only words that leave your lips without sounding completely shit.
Your boss, Bucky Barnes, CEO of one of the most powerful companies in town, sits opposite you. He has his sleeves rolled up, revealing his tattooed, muscular and veiny arms to you. Your eyes flicker from his forearms to his face and back to his forearms, not sure where to look while you talk to your boss.
Bucky smirks to himself, his eyes roaming over your face and shoulders. His tongue slides across his lips and he needs to stop the groan from leaving his plump lips. He has hoped that you’re going to come to his office to give him some company and especially with a request so he could be so close to you without being weird and stare at you shamelessly.
The brown-haired man’s intense stare, causes you to shift even more, nervousness boiling inside of you. You can’t stand his gaze but you can’t not look at him either. When you’re looking into his eyes once it’s like they hold your gaze, like he could read your mind and you shiver lightly. His ocean blue eyes roam often over your body, your boss just can’t get enough of you, his sweet, little assistant.
Bucky chuckles, leaning back in his chair and tapping his fingers against the surface of the table. Your cheeks heat up while your eyes switch from his eyes to his pink, plump lips and back to his eyes. “Mhmmm.”
You swallow thickly, ready to apologise for that question. A soft whimper leaves your lips when Bucky’s lips twitch, turning into a soft smirk but he tries to hide it. His eyes are still on you, his blue eyes piercing into yours and his lips now curl up. “I’m sor—“
He moves his seat away from the desk, interrupting you with his actions. His eyes dark slightly, his huge hands pat on his thick, muscular thigh. “Come here, doll.”
Your eyes widen and you freeze. Bucky’s gaze doesn’t shift, still smirking at you. He knows that you’re not used to get that kind of instruction especially not from your boss. He waits patiently that you come over to him and take a seat on his thigh.
“Come on, pretty girl. Won’t repeat myself again,” Bucky says, his voice stern but still soft. He taps on one of his thighs once again.
You get up from the chair, slowly and with shaking legs you walk around the table. When you’re just a few inches away from him you stop, not sure about sitting in your bosses thigh.
He stares at you, holding his hands out to grasp you by your waist and pull you closer. You squeak when you’re suddenly sitting on his thick thigh, straddling him. Your legs dangle in both sides of his leg, and you feel his toned muscle pressing against your pussy.
“I have a better offer for you,” Bucky says, his fingers digging into the soft flesh of your hips. “How about you’re doing as you’re told and I will make you mine, pretty girl. You can have whatever you want, I will give it to you — you just need to ask.”
He slowly moves your hips, tensing his muscle underneath you. You moan softly about the friction against your throbbing pussy, carving more of his soft touches. You let yourself fall against him, your head leaning against his shoulder while you move your hips over his thigh.
“You need to answer me, doll.” Bucky moves one of his hands to your back, his other still resting on your hips. You’re a moaning and whimpering mess on his thigh, fingers gripping into his shoulders to ground yourself.
“P—Please, wanna be yours,” you moan. Hips rutting against him and you can feel his growing bulge against your thigh. Your moans become needier and your fingers digging more into his shoulders.
“My good girl, huh?” He asks, smirking when you nod. Bucky kisses your jaw softly, you tilt your head to the side giving him more space to kiss and bite softly into your skin. He chuckles, kissing along your neck and leaving purple bruises all over your sensitive skin. “You look beautiful, marked and all mine. So pretty, my doll, fucking perfect, wonderful.”

NOT A HOMEWRECKER
bucky x fem!reader x steve (kinda smut?) no use of y/n
based on THAT scene of challengers ;)
—So, how often does this happen? —You were sitting on the floor of their room, beer cans were lying around.
The brunette boy, James, or Bucky as his friends called him, wouldn't take his blue eyes off you, his gaze was bold and you might even say challenging. There was always a playful smile on his lips, he was confident, he knew what he was doing. The blond one, Steve, was shyer but you could still feel his eyes roaming your bare legs exposed by your shorts. He was more reserved, much more intriguing, he was also confident but not in a cocky way.
Both seemed confused by your question. —Going for the same girl. —You clarified.
Bucky huffed a laugh. —Not as often as you think, no.
—No, hmm... We usually have different types —. Steve added.
—I should be flattered then.
—Aren't you everybody's type?
You smiled, taking the compliment from Bucky, and he smirked, taking the last sip of his beer. You could tell he had much more experience with girls than his friend, he knew what to say at every moment, when to look down at your thighs so you wouldn't notice. You bit the inside of your cheeks and used one of your fingers to point at them. First to Bucky and then to Steve and then you repeated it.
—What about the two of you?
—What do you mean? —Steve asked and you lifted your eyebrows, smirking. It was obvious. —Oh! No —. Steve huffed a laugh, Bucky on the other hand was the first time during the night that he kept silent. You showed Steve a smile of disbelief. —What? Is that surprising? —The blond one asked you but you couldn't let Bucky's reaction slide. You didn't answer Steve's question, instead, you stood up.
You looked at both of them, still sitting on the floor and staring at you with their big blue eyes like lost puppies. You turned around and walked over to their bed where you sat on the edge of it. Your legs pressed together and your hands resting on your knees. The two friends didn't know what to do, they shared a glance to check if the other had an answer but only found confusion on the other's face, then their eyes went to you and you flashed them a small smile. —Come here —. You invited them to join you on their own bed.
—Which one? —Steve asked but during those seconds Bucky was already on his feet and rushing to where you were. Steve didn't want to be left behind so when he realized, he went after his friend.
On your right, there was sitting the sweet Steve who maybe, by the way he had run to bed, wasn't as timid as you thought. On your left, there was Bucky who seemed to be a complete menace by the way in which he had not even waited for you to answer Steve's question. They both were waiting for you to make the first move because you still hadn't answered the most important question.
You turned to look at the brunette boy first. Bucky kept the smirk on his lips while his eyes were staring into your mouth shamelessly. You leaned slightly towards him, enough for him to part his lips expecting to meet yours. You felt his warm breath against your mouth, you were too close but you could see how he had his eyes closed waiting for a kiss that would not come. Bucky leaned in, seeking your lips, but you pulled away before your lips could even brush against each other.
You ignored Bucky's reaction and turned to look at Steve who had been admiring the scene, feeling somewhat jealous that you had chosen his friend over him. He was relieved when he saw that you were now facing him, with your eyes focused on his pink lips and with one of your hands going to his jaw to pull him closer.
The blond boy moved his lips smoothly with yours, he let you set the pace but he knew how to adapt to perfection. Your hand moved from his jaw to his cheek and then to the back of his head, sinking your fingers in his hair and using the grip to deepen the kiss. One of his hands, the ones that had previously seemed so shy and quiet, slipped between your thighs and dug his fingers into your flesh. Before it could escalate any further you brought both of your hands to his hard chest and gently pushed him away from you.
Steve's lips were glossy and even pinker if that was possible. He kept his lips parted, catching his breath and waiting for you to come back for more but you were now focused on Bucky who couldn't have been any more turned on after that scene. He hadn't missed a second of your kiss with Steve but now it was his turn and you were also in need of him. Your hands grabbed his face while his lips devoured yours from the second they met, his hands were also holding your cheeks. While it had been very easy to take control with Steve, Bucky put up resistance and his lips tried to set the pace over yours.
You broke away from Bucky's lips to catch your breath as you subtly ran your tongue over your lips. You pushed your hair aside, exposing your neck to them as you bit your lower lip.
They were smart boys so they were quick to attach their mouths to the sensitive skin of your neck. You had to bite down harder on your lower lip to keep from letting out any sound. The two boys gave you a trail of kisses from your neck until they reached your cheeks. With your right hand, you held Steve's chin and with your left one, you did the same to Bucky to guide them both to your mouth. Your three lips met there, it was messy and it lasted less than you would have liked because the two friends realized that their lips were not only kissing you but also kissing each other.
Steve and Bucky backed up at the same time and let out a chuckle trying not to make the situation uncomfortable. You giggled with them and nodded, encouraging them and letting them know that it was okay. You took their faces again and slowly brought them closer to you. They seemed to let themselves go so you went all the way until the lips of the three of you were pressed together once more.
The kiss escalated very quickly and turned into a sequence full of desperate movements. It was messy, you didn't know who to focus on. It got easier when their movements became needier than yours. You parted your lips, allowing Bucky's tongue to slip inside while Steve's lips were sucking on your neck. The next second Steve's teeth were clashing against yours as Bucky kissed his way down your cheek until he reached your neck and then back up to your mouth.
Your hands were everywhere; tugging at Bucky's hair and then grabbing his neck, holding Steve's cheeks, and then sliding down his chest. They were also getting looser, what if..?
You leaned back and sat up on your elbows, admiring the scene proudly. The boys kissed passionately, they didn't even seem to notice that you had broken away, or even better, they did know but they didn't mind. Both moved their heads from side to side constantly changing position to deepen the kiss as much as possible, Steve's tongue caressed Bucky's lower lip, Bucky's hand went to the back of his best friend's head to pull him closer.
—Okay —. You hated to break their moment because you were enjoying it almost as much as they were. Steve and Bucky pulled away from the kiss and looked at you, confused and with their lips visibly wet and swollen. — I'm going to bed — You announced.
You stood from the bed pushing the bodies of the boys and making them split apart. Their eyes followed you to the door, incredulous.
—Wait, when are we going to see you again?
You huffed a laugh. —This has been fun, but I'm not a homewrecker.

hooked on a feeling - bucky b.
Tumblr media
summary You're an overthinker and instead of sleeping you are listening to music in the living room, when Bucky decides to join you and you two end up dancing together and kissing
wordcount 920
warnings none; fluff; mentions of insomnia, overthinking and nightmares
Being part of the Avengers is not always easy. Your mind is constantly thinking about the next mission, or the last, about all the (possible) danger out there and so much more. Basically, you're an overthinker. And your thoughts are loudest when the world around you is quiet, like at nights.
As usual you toss and turn in your bed, unable to find sleep. After what feels like hours you decide to get up. You tip toe into the dark and quiet living room, as the others are most likely asleep by now. You only turn on the small light in the kitchen as you make yourself a cup of tea and wait patiently for the water to boil.
With the mug in your hands you walk over to one of the big windows and turn on the stereo system on the go. As you sip your tea and watch out the window some old songs start to play, quiet enough to not wake up the others but loud enough for your thoughts to shut down. Music has always helped you to calm your mind. You can't help but hum softly to the songs and start to sway just a tiny bit.
After a while you hear someone clearing his throat behind you and you turn around surprised, just to find Bucky leaning against the kitchen counter with crossed arms, watching you.
"Oh, hey Bucky" you greet him with a shy smile, embarrassed that you got caught.
"Hey doll" His voice is deep and low, almost a bit hoarse. "Can't sleep?"
You shake your head and look back outside with a sigh. "No, as usual..."
Bucky sighs and walks over next to you and looks out the window as well. "Me neither"
It wasn't unusual for you and Bucky to meet in the living room in the middle of the night as you both suffer from insomnia and stuff. You two always got along well. Some nights you talk about his nightmares or your thoughts, others you just enjoy each others company in silence while listening to some music. Tonight seems to be one of those nights.
After some time one of your favorite songs come on - Hooked on a Feeling and Bucky turns his head to look at you. "This is your favorite, no?"
You smile softly at him, he really paid attention, didn't he? "Yeah, on of my favorites"
Bucky nods and listens to the familiar "Ooga-Chaka" line before he then joins in to the lyrics. "I can't stop this feeling..."
To say you are surprised would be an understatement. Bucky has never sung to you before and you didn't even know that he knows the lyrics to this song.
"Deep inside of me..." He continues. "Girl, you just don't realize" He turns his head to you and sings with this smug grin on his face "What you do to meee"
You can't help but join in as well. "When you hold me, in your arms so tight..."
"You let me know"
"Everything's alright" You finish Buckys line.
"I'm hooked on a feeling!" Bucky sings now, his voice no longer low like before, but more powerful and he seems to be a lot more at ease then when he joined you at the window.
"I'm high on believing!" you sing now same as him, a huge grin plastered on your face and your overthinking long gone.
"That you're in love with me" Bucky sings and then stretches his hand out for you to take. So you do just that and without warning Bucky spins you around. "Lips as sweet as candy!"
You two continue to sing and dance to the song. Bucky pulls you a bit closer with every line until you are interwined completely, swaying to the music. You feel hypnotized by his movements and his voice and it feels like right now the world around you is gone. Both if you seem to just live in this moment and enjoy it to the fullest as Bucky spins you around in the dim light of the living room.
Finally the last verse comes on and you are pressed against Buckys chest, his metal hand on your back and his other still holding yours gently as he sings with more passion this time, looking directly into your eyes. "I'm hooked on a feeling"
"And I'm high on believing" you sing along as Bucky places your hand on his shoulder and brushes a strand of hair out of your face gently.
"That you're in love with me" He almost whispers those last words as his hand cups your cheek and you feel like it meant more than a simple song lyrics.
Bucky leans slowly closer to you, his hold on you firm but still gentle until his face is only inches apart from yours. You can feel his hot breath againt your lips and for a moment Bucky hesitates before closing the gap between you two and kissing you softly. You close your eyes and lean into the kiss without thinking, your heart skipping a beat.
When he pulls away again he can see the soft blush on your cheeks and smiles gently. "Always wanted to do that, doll" Bucky whispers before starting to sway with you in his arms once again as the next song comes on.
And so you spent the rest of the night dancing to the music and exchanging sweet kisses every now and then, both of you feeling at ease and happy.

The one person who turned your school life into a nightmare will take over your father's business.
You never had any interest in following in your father's footsteps. Tom had told you from the beginning that you weren't fit for this work. And you hated the business; you wanted to burn it to the ground.
Even though you had never come home for several years, you kept sending your father monthly money. That money was enough for him to move and buy a new house in a big city. Last Christmas, you called your father and told him to sell the house, but he said nothing.
Something never changed: your father would put work before his own happiness.
Now you know why he didn’t want to sell the house. Because he had found someone to continue the business. Bucky Barnes.
Bucky is the popular kid from the wealthiest family in town. Everywhere he went, people followed him. His entourage echoed his every move.
When Bucky said something about you, his followers echoed his sentiments. If Bucky said A, his entourage would cover B to Z, and he never stopped them.
You once thought that he looked down on you because he was rich. But after moving to the city with Ransom and meeting many influential and wealthy people in the business world, you realize that Barnes' fortune was nothing compared to the 0.1%.
Now, you see him as just a regular person.
You sighed, feeling a mix of frustration and resignation. "This is a big mistake. I shouldn't have come back here." You walked past them, not even glancing in Bucky's direction, and headed upstairs to grab your things.
Tom followed after you. “Y/N, please, we can talk about this. I didn’t know how to tell you.” He knew he had been an absent father. After you left for college, your relationship worsened.
You only called him on holiday, and he was afraid to call you first. He didn't know how to start the conversation when he had the chance to talk.
You stayed silent, slinging your bag over your shoulder and holding your laptop.
“Where are you going to stay?” Tom asked, desperation in his voice. “From what you told me, you don’t have much cash.”
He was right. Your bank account was blocked. But you still had some cash and your Rolex, which you could pawn. You glanced at your watch as you headed down the stairs.
Distracted, you missed the last step and started to fall. “Ahh!”
You braced for the impact, but instead, you hit something solid.
“Did you hurt your foot?” Bucky asked, holding you steady. His voice was worried. He had been about to leave, not wanting to cause more conflict between you and your father.
You looked at his face, searching for the smug expression he always wore when he tormented you with his “silly pranks.”
Quickly, you pulled away from his grasp. You didn’t want to be near or share the same air with him.
You walked past him, treating him like he didn’t exist. Before opening the door, you grabbed an umbrella—a habit of always being prepared.
As you opened the door, you felt a hand on your shoulder. You rolled your eyes, turned around, and saw Bucky stopping you.
“Please, listen to your father first,” Bucky said softly, sounding anxious. Your father stood at the top of the stairs, speechless.
At this moment, you felt like an outsider. They seemed more like father and son than you and Tom ever had.
You pushed Bucky's hand off your shoulder. "Keep your hands off of me!" Your voice was filled with years of pent-up anger and pain, each word like a knife stabbing into Bucky.
You slammed the door and stormed off, your heart pounding with a mix of rage and betrayal.
Back at the house, Bucky and Tom stood staring at the closed door.
Tom sighed, his shoulders sagging. "Give her a moment. She's been through a lot."
Bucky, still shaken, asked softly, "What happened to her?"
At the pawn shop, you tapped your fingers anxiously on the glass counter, awaiting Mr. Rogers' appraisal of your Rolex watch. His gaze met yours, and he inquired, "Do you know how much it's worth?"
You nodded, a sense of unease creeping over you. "I bought it three years ago for around $25,000. With the current market price, and since I didn’t bring the box and certificate, the price will be lower. I would say it’s around $8,000."
Mr. Rogers's eyes widened in surprise at your precise evaluation. Clearing his throat, he mumbled, "Ahem, you're right. And because you’re Tom’s daughter, I will give you that price."
You quietly sighed. You had just arrived at one shop, and he already knew you. But what could you do? This was the only pawn shop open this morning.
"Wait a second, I'll grab the money for you," Mr. Rogers announced before disappearing into the back room.
Taking a seat, you fidgeted with your phone, searching for the nearest hotel or motel.
Just as you began to scroll, your phone rang. It was Maya, your lawyer. You had chosen to work with her because she was your assistant's friend. Money was tight, so you couldn't afford a well-known lawyer.
“Hello?” you answered the call.
“Hi, are you alright? You have arrived in your hometown?” Maya asked.
“Yes, I have. By the way, is there any progress?” you inquired.
“Yes. They already looked through it. I guess you could hear good news in 3 days,” Maya replied.
You sighed in relief. “I’m glad. Thank you.”
After a brief conversation with Maya, you ended the call. Then you heard someone clear their throat.
“Ahem.”
You glanced up to see that the person behind the counter was no longer Mr. Rogers but his son, Steve Rogers, who was also Bucky’s friend.
Back then, Steve didn’t say anything when you were made fun of. But he didn’t do anything to stop the silly pranks either. So his name was also written in your black book.
But now you weren’t the same person anymore. You were a 'female Midas'. You were supposed to be confident. Steve used to look at you as if you were invisible. Now you should do the same.
You got up from your seat and walked towards him. There was a stack of cash, probably $9,000, in front of you. Mr. Rogers was quite a generous man.
You picked up the money and stuffed it into your bag. It was enough to live here for 3 days before you went back to the city.
Steve noticed that you didn’t even look at him. He cleared his throat. “It’s been a while. Are you staying?”
You continued to ignore him. As you exited the door, you clapped your hands, making Steve jump. Then you muttered, “Oh, it’s just a fly,” as you walked away.
🏨
You left the pawn shop and glanced back at your phone to find a cheap hotel or motel nearby. As you walked, sweat poured down your back, making you feel uncomfortably sticky. It was the most strenuous workout you had in a while, just trying to find a place to rest.
Eventually, you stumbled upon an interesting hotel on the booking app. The hotel was located inside a big building that sold outdoor equipment. It was cheap and conveniently close to your location.
Sweat dripping down your forehead, you kept walking until you finally reached the building. You were impressed by the natural surroundings, with shops surrounded by nature. The building was named Bronze Adventure Gear.
Upon entering, you were greeted by an employee.
“Welcome to Bronze Adventure Gear. How can we help you?” they asked.
You were taken aback by their energy; it was still 10 a.m., and they were already bustling with customers.
“I’m here for the hotel,” you replied. “I know it’s early, but I just need a place to rest.”
“No worries. It’s off-season, and there are many empty rooms. We’ll guide you to the receptionist,” they said, leading you further into the building.
Grateful for the hospitality, you thanked them as they left you at the receptionist.
The hotel was called Bronze Lodge.
“We’ll leave you to our friend,” the employee said before departing.
“Thank you,” you replied, feeling a sense of relief wash over you as you tapped the reception table and waited.
“Welcome to the Bronze Lodge. How can I help you?” a friendly female voice greeted you. However, to your ears, it sounded like venom. It was Natasha Romanoff, the popular girl in town.
You felt a shiver run down your spine, a sensation far different from when you had encountered Bucky and Steve again.
“Y/N? Is that you?” Natasha's voice cut through the air.
You tried to compose yourself. “Yup.”
“Goodness. It’s been a long time. And you're so beautiful. Ah, where are my manners? Are you staying at this hotel?” Natasha wore her trademark smile—the same one you hated seeing back in school, where her girl gang would always talk behind your back.
"You know what-?" You were about to say, but then second thoughts about leaving crossed your mind.
That's when you heard the most enormous thunderclap of your life.
“Are you surprised? The weather is quite unpredictable,” Natasha remarked casually.
She glanced at your belongings. “Oh, and you brought your yellow umbrella. Such a nostalgic touch. You never changed,” she continued, her words like needles pricking at your skin.
You clenched your fists, your frustration bubbling up inside you.
“You’re lucky. There’s a room ready for you. Here’s the key. I hope you enjoy staying with us,” Natasha said, offering you the card key with a sweet smile.
You snatched the key from her hand. “I’ll try.”
Turning on your heel, you made your way to the elevator. As you left, Natasha's smile faltered, and she quickly grabbed her phone to make a call. “You won’t believe who checked into the hotel today,” she said eagerly.
*********
The moment you entered the hotel room, you threw yourself onto the bed, exhausted. You turned around and stared at the ceiling.
The rain and thunder outside seemed oblivious to your desire for peace. You starting to regret coming back here.
Closing your eyes, you tried to ease your racing mind. But four hours later, what was meant to be a short nap turned into a longer one.
'Knock. Knock.'
You were jolted awake by the sound of someone knocking at your door. Lazily, you left the bed and peered through the peephole, wondering who it could be since you hadn't requested anything.
You gasped when you saw Bucky standing outside. What on earth did he want? Wasn't it enough that you had already encountered him and his friends earlier today?
Taking a deep breath, you hesitated before opening the door.
When you did, you remained silent, not wanting to converse with him.
Bucky said, "Tom is looking for you."
"I see. Thanks for the info," you replied, moving to close the door, but he stopped it.
"What do you want?" you sighed in frustration.
"You have to talk to him," Bucky insisted.
Closing your eyes, you responded icily, "I'll talk to him when I'm ready. But I don't need you hovering around. I certainly don't want to see your face."
His expression seemed to reflect grief when you said that, though you dismissed it as your own emotions. Why would he feel guilty towards you?
"And how did you manage to find me?" you asked.
"It’s easy," Bucky replied nonchalantly, "since my family owns this business. I can access anything I want, including information about guests staying here."
There it was, the smug face finally making its appearance, accompanied by that cocky explanation.
You gritted your teeth. Somehow, the idea of being in prison didn't seem so bad anymore.

I’d love something abt how John learns abt gales father as they grow closer, whether it be thru stories/behaviors etc, I love everything you write tho so no pressure!!
This is a great ask! Thank you so much 🩷 I'm so sorry for keeping it for so long, I wanted to give it some thought and I kept delaying it.
Canon AU
Gale doesn’t talk about his background at all at first. The guys don’t even know where he’s from unless they ask. Sometimes, he drops comments about how a man ought to behave, usually in a dark or sarcastic tone, and he openly scoffs at being invested in sports teams, but that’s it.
As they grow closer, John learns Gale's nonverbal emotional cues, and knows how to identify when Gale is upset, scared or angry, even if it only lasts a moment. And when he reaches that point, that's when he realizes that some behaviours always get one of these hidden reactions out of Gale.
For example, it frightens him for a split second when the boys play-fight with their belts, or he gets irritated by drunken crowds. John starts to put it together that something left Gale with these instinctual reactions that still show even though he’s trying to cover them.
Eventually, when it’s just the two of them and the moment feels right, he broaches the subject.
I headcanon that Gale is in denial to himself about how his own childhood affected him - he’s purposefully lying to himself about its impact. He detaches his feelings from it. So he talks about terrible memories without emotion or with inappropriate emotion (e.g. amusement) and John doesn’t really know how to deal with it other than absorb them and try to comfort Gale even if he pretends he doesn’t need comfort.
And the heartbreaking thing is that I think Gale's denial would crack in the tender moments, when he and John are much closer (possibly in love already) and he feels loved and appreciated. That's when the emotions flood back into the memories, and John has to pick up the pieces.
In my HS AU
Similarly, Gale doesn’t talk about his family background. If he must, he picks out the good moments. So for all everyone knows, he’s a well-adjusted boy with regular, undivorced parents.
In the beginning of his relationship with Bucky, he lies a lot. About the reason why he’s super tired some days or about his mom picking him up after an outing with Bucky. He does this because he’s afraid to lose Bucky due to his shitty background.
Once Bucky notices that Gale is hiding something from him, he tries to get it out of him, and they have a big fight. They break up for a few days (this is all in 9th grade). Eventually, with Georgia's encouragement, Bucky tries again and he and Gale make up. On the bleachers by the soccer field, Gale tells him everything as it is.
From then on, Bucky tries to look out for Gale the best he can. Gale still doesn’t let him come around to the Clevens' house, but he tells Bucky more and more and leans on him for support during bad times (because it's not always bad).
However, when the thoughts in Gale's head turn really dark (pre-Broken Things), he keeps those secret again.
Gale doesn’t say it out loud that he was abused until he’s an adult. Accepting that fact is a huge milestone for him.

Priya wants to have a pissing contest and you almost lose more than your best friend.

Who knew that it only took one text message to ruin your day? You’d woken up that morning feeling a little lighter than the past week. Your departure from the compound had weighed heavily on your conscience, and every night as you closed your eyes in bed, you wondered if you had done the right thing by leaving. But this morning you felt different. It was the first day you would start at Coulson Academy. It was still a while before the start of the new school year, but May had decided that you might be more comfortable as a TA before leading your own classes. It would give you time to get to know the students and find your feet before being asked to swim in the deep end.
Spending the morning analyzing artifacts with Dr Benson was thrilling and gave you a warm nostalgic feeling which was rudely interrupted by your ringing phone. "Sorry," you muttered as Benson looked at you with a frown. He hated modern technology and their incessant distraction.
"Just read it." He rolled his eyes.
You picked up your phone and unlocked it, eyebrows shooting up. The source of your correspondence was unexpected.
Priya << Hey, can we meet please? I want to talk to you.
>>>> When were you thinking?
Priya << I finish my shift at 1pm. I can come to the compound.
>>>> I’m at Coulson Academy today.
Priya << Fine, I’ll come there. Send me the address.
Her curtness and commanding tone made you roll your eyes, sending back the address of a coffee stand in a nearby park. You felt uncomfortable inviting her to your new haven.
"Trouble in paradise?"
"What?" you jump, surprised by Dr Benson’s attention.
"Relationship issues?"
"I don’t… I’m not in a relationship."
"That’s exactly how my husband used to look at me every time I pissed him off."
Your face softened when Benson mentioned his husband. You knew he had lost him a few years ago and blamed himself for his death.
"My friend’s girlfriend wants to have a chat, apparently."
"Hmm… still sounds like trouble in paradise to me," he responded thoughtfully.
"Not my paradise," you shrugged.
"No," he smiled knowingly, saying nothing further.
*
You sat on a bench opposite the academy, waiting for Priya to arrive. Uncommon Ground was the name of the coffee stand, it usually made you chuckle, but today you felt too apprehensive and jittery. The large latte you’d ordered wasn’t doing anything for your nerves. There was something in the air that made your skin crawl, it was charged with anticipation and your nerves were on edge. But you chalked it all up to your anxiety about the topic of conversation that Priya was going to raise.
She arrived in a whirlwind of style and class. There was a reason she had been promoted at such a young age, she oozed confidence and charisma. And to top it all off, she was stunning. You could see why Bucky was attracted to her, she was elegance personified. Normally you didn't criticize yourself too harshly but your defenses were low and you found yourself feeling dowdy and drab in comparison.
Why would Bucky be with you when he had someone who looked like that? You thought mournfully.
"Hey, Priya," you greeted her with a forced smile.
"Hey, Cricket, thanks for meeting me," Priya replied, taking a seat beside you with her own cup of coffee.
"No problem, what’s up?" you asked, trying to sound casual.
Priya took a deep breath before speaking. "I wanted to talk to you about something that’s been on my mind for a while now."
Your heart sank. You knew what was coming. "Go ahead, Priya."
"I know this might be difficult to hear, but I’ve noticed that you have feelings for Bucky," Priya said, her voice gentle but firm.
You felt your cheeks flush with embarrassment and a hint of anger. "I-I don’t know what you’re talking about," you stammered, avoiding Priya’s gaze.
"Come on, Cricket, I’m not blind. I can see the way you look at him, the way you light up when he’s around. And I can tell that he means more to you than just a friend," Priya said, her eyes searching yours.
You swallowed hard, feeling exposed and vulnerable. "Look, Priya, I'm not trying to come between the two of you. You're right, I do love him, but nothing is going on between Bucky and I. But he is still my best friend. And what you did on his birthday, that was…" You couldn't find the words to express how hurtful it had been.
Priya sighed, she knew what she had done. "I appreciate your honesty, Cricket. But I need you to understand that Bucky’s my boyfriend. I love him, and I want to make things work between us."
Her response made you grit your teeth and bite your tongue. She was marking her territory and you hated it. "You don't need to make this a pissing contest, you've already won. You know that, right?" Your voice was flat and emotionless.
"What do you mean?"
"Bucky doesn't want to talk to me anymore. And I moved out of the compound. So he's all yours."
"I didn't want it to be like this, you know."
You scoffed.
"Why didn’t you tell him how you feel?" Priya’s question was unexpected. "I mean, you didn't suddenly develop your feelings overnight."
You were about to open your mouth to attempt an answer, when a loud thump caught your attention. Your head spun around to see a giant cockroach destroying the park. The sound you had heard was that of a tree crashing to the ground. You recognized the creature as a Vrellnexian, a ferocious species native to the planet Kitson. They had been bred for war and you’d seen them during your trip to the future in the Lighthouse. They were vicious and ruthless and hungry for blood. But what was this creature doing here and now?
Grabbing your phone, you found Steve on the list and pushed down the speaker. "STEVE! Alien attack! Vrellnexian! Need back up! Red Oaks Mill. Back up would be-" Your eyes went wide as the Vrellnexian turned its attention to you. "Shit," you muttered, your finger slipping off the mic and you pushed Priya out of the line of fire. The beast had decided to throw a trashcan in your direction.
"Take cover," you hissed in her ear, helping her up to her feet and pushing her in the direction of the coffee stand. You stood and turned to face the vicious alien, taking a few steps forwards to get its attention away from a group of terrified teens. "Hey, cockroach!"
It turned to you with a growl, raising its pincers menacingly. Taking a deep breath, you braced your nerves and took a few steps forward. The Vrellnexian was fast, faster than you remembered, attacking with speed and agility. It missed by mere millimeters as you dropped under him and rolled to a defensive position, eyes immediately back on the alien, which had twisted around towards you. You looked up at its face, trying to decipher its features, but there was an unmistakable sneer which made your fists clench with rage. You sprung up with a spinning kick that was aimed at its chest but it was able to grab your leg and used your momentum to fling you across the grassy open.
You scrambled to your feet, desperately, launching an attack without waiting to recover. You pushed yourself into its middle, propelling yourself forwards and knocking it off balance. The Vrellnexian stumbled back and you pressed your advantage, launching yourself onto its shoulders and locking your legs around its neck in a triangular chokehold. Both of you crashed to the floor where you grabbed the dangerous pincers and wrestled with it.
A shout from someone nearby caught the creature’s ear for a brief second, and you put all your strength into your powers and pushed the alien off you. Flipping yourself off the floor, you put your concentration into forming a blade with your abilities, long and sharp, you forced it through the Vrellnexian’s chest as it recovered and charged towards you. It stumbled backwards as your weapon impaled its chest. Slowly, but surely, the beast twitched and weakened, sinking to the floor. You sank to your knees, gasping for breath, trying to recover your strength.
"Jamie!" Priya’s voice called out from behind you.
You turned in her direction and followed her gaze over to the parking lot where Bucky and Steve had jumped off their bikes.
"Better late than never," you mumbled, suddenly feeling anxious about coming face to face with Bucky, his presence was unexpected.
Priya rushed to your side, emboldened by the floored Vrellnaxian. "Jamie! Over here!" she called, falling to notice the way the fallen beast’s eyes opened.
You gasped as it reared up, pincers poised to strike. Without thinking, you grabbed Priya’s arms, pulling her away and shielding her body from the attack with your own. It was instinctive, you didn’t have time to ponder your actions, you just moved, moved right into the path of the sharp curved claw which ripped into your side.
A scream didn’t even have time to leave your mouth before you’re on the floor, moaning and gasping for breath. Your vision felt blurred and a searing pain shot through your whole body. And as you stared up at the clear blue sky, you felt grateful for the people in your life, the experiences you'd had and relationships you'd forged. As you lay on the floor contemplating what you considered your inevitable death, time seemed to slow down. Your only real regret was the way things had ended with Bucky, and oh how you longed to see his face one more time. You would tell him how you felt. The moment your best friend came into your mind, his face appeared above you.
"Cricket! Cricket! Can you hear me?" Bucky's voice echoed in you ears
A tiny smile crept across your face and you opened your mouth, but there was no sound. In fact, the sky didn't look as blue as it did a few moments ago. You were pretty sure that no storm had been predicted, but there was a gray cloud creeping in on you from all sides.
*
Bucky and Steve raced over to you, both of them screaming your name. Bucky all but ignoring Priya’s whimpering attempts to grab his attention. He fell to his knees and scooped you up into his arms, calling your name urgently.
"Cricket! Look at me. It's Bucky, I'm here." He held you close to his chest, shaking you gently to get you to focus on him.
Your eyes were open but you were far away from him. He couldn't lose you, not now, not like this. Not when everything between you was left unsaid. Not when the last thing he had said to you had been so cold and dismissive.
"Cricket, please." He was begging, pleading for you to stay with him.
Steve was on his phone, calling for medical help. He had his phone in one hand and his other was clutching yours. He hated how cold and limp it felt. You were losing blood dangerously fast.
"James," Priya whispered from the side.
Bucky turned to her, finally acknowledging her presence. "Help her! Please! You're a doctor, help her. I need her. I need you to help her."
He looked at Priya with pure, unadulterated desperation, blue eyes beseeching. Priya looked back, her mind processing the events that had just unfolded before her. But fear seemed to have paralyzed her, her eyes flicking back and forth between Bucky and the conquered Vrellnexian.
"It's dead." He cried, referring to the alien. "Please don't let Cricket die. She saved your life. You can't let her die." Bucky tugged your listless body away from the dead alien. He grimaced as his actions left a smear of blood on the grass. "Please?"
Hesitantly, Priya knelt down beside you. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself and focus. There was nothing out of the ordinary, she told herself. It was just another day in the OR and you were just another patient. She stilled her racing mind and examined your wound, fingers probing the inside of your torso for the source of bleeding.
Bucky hadn't let go of you at all since the time he had arrived, holding you tightly to his chest, whispering words of encouragement in your ear. He had no idea if you could hear or understand him, but he was going to do everything he could to care for and comfort you until you were better. In his mind, there was no other alternative. He refused to believe that you would leave him all alone in the world.
"Cricket, I got your gift. It was so beautiful. Please wake up, I need to say thank you. Please, Doll."
If Priya heard his words, she didn't react, focusing on her only task: to save your life.
*
The paramedics had to pry you out of Bucky’s arms to take you to the nearest trauma center. Steve had steered him into the ambulance. He and Priya got into the car Natasha had arrived in, following to the hospital. The paramedics wheeled you into the ER looking incredibly irate, and it was obvious to Steve that his friend had been very obstructive during the journey.
Nat hovered by you closely as the surgeons assessed your injuries, stabilizing your vitals and prepping you for the OR. She sent a ream of messages to Steve's phone by way of updating him and Bucky.
"Bucky, let's get you cleaned up. There's a restroom right there. At least wash your hands." Steve pointed to a door a few feet from where they were sitting.
Bucky scowled at this oldest friend before proceeding to wipe his blood stained hands on his jeans.
"James?" Bucky looked over at Priya. "Why don't we wash up a little. I'm sure that Cricket doesn't want to see you covered in blood when she wakes up." She took his hand and led him to the restroom, helping him get cleaned up.
Bucky watched as his girlfriend scrubbed your blood from her own hands, then his. She took a paper towel, ran it under the tap and wiped his face gently. He watched her tenderness, guilt burning inside him and feeling trapped. How had managed to get himself in a situation where he was going to hurt someone he cared about, regardless of the choice he made?
"You love her, don't you?" she asked.
"What?"
"Cricket."
Bucky blushed, not knowing how to answer.
"You know what I don't understand?" Priya went on, without waiting for a response. "Why you've been going out with me all this time?"
He swallowed hard, lost for words as to explain what he had been feeling. "I do like you."
"But you love her."
"I thought… I didn't think she…" Bucky let out a frustrated sigh. How could he explain his actions?
"Did you even try telling her how you felt?"
Bucky's face betrayed his embarrassment, making Priya scoff.
"No, of course not. I've been fighting a losing battle for the last six months."
"What?"
"You only started dating me because you didn’t think she liked you back."
Priya’s words hit Bucky like a ton of bricks. He had been so caught up in his own feelings of insecurity and fear of rejection that he hadn’t even considered the possibility that you might feel the same way about him.
"I messed up, Priya," Bucky finally admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "I hurt her, and I hurt you. I don’t know how to fix this."
Priya reached out and took his hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "You can start by being honest with her, Bucky. Tell her how you feel. She deserves to know the truth."
"Why’re you helping me?"
"Because I did something I’m not proud of." "My birthday gift?" Bucky asked, already knowing the answer.
"Yeah, I overhead Cricket telling Steve what she got for you and… I’m sorry."
He clenched his fists, hearing her admission. But what right did he have to be angry? He had been the one to put Priya in that position, to feel that she had to compete for his affections. He had no one to blame but himself. "But why?" he asked.
"That day I found you guys were sleeping together-"
"We didn’t have-
"I know! But that intimacy you guys have… that’s what I felt like I needed to fight for," Priya admitted. "She saved my life today."
"Thank you for helping her."
"I took an oath," Priya shrugged.
The previously happy couple stood awkwardly in the public restroom, trying to figure out what to say to each other.
"I guess we should go back out," Bucky pointed at the door with this thumb. "Just in case."
"I think that… it should be you."
"Me?"
"You should be the one who’s there when she wakes up."
"What… what does that mean for… for us?"
"That’s up to you, James. Do you love her?"
"Yes." Bucky answered firmly, he had never been more sure of anything else in his life.
"Then I think you have your answer." Priya sighed. "Goodbye, James."
Priya pressed a kiss to his cheek, leaving a dumbfounded Bucky alone leaning against the basin to process what had just happened. His sadness and regret was replaced by hope and the thought of you. He gasped, he needed to go back out and find out what was happening to you.

Valley-girl Charm - Bucky Barnes
Summary: In which reader from the 1940s knows just how to play the damsel in distress to get exactly what she wants in the modern age after coming out of the ice. Or should I say: 3 times Bucky did things for you, and the 1 time you did something for him. SMUT!!!
2.9k wc
Natasha knew body language better than anyone. Tony knew how to play the knight in shining armour better than any hero in the old tales they told.
So of course, they were the first ones to pick up on the little game you were playing. It had started the second you were back from under the ice, charming anyone you spoke to with your 1940's valley girl accent, using words you'd only hear in old television. Men fell at your feet the second words came out of your mouth, offering you anything you'd dream of, and it didn't have anything to do with the super-soldier serum in your system either. You politely declined every time, but eventually understood the kind of power you held.
The second charming method they noticed you had came from your gorgeous smile. The moment you looked up at someone through your long lashes and beamed widely, looking so innocent and kind, people were willing to give you the clothes off their back if you asked. Of course, you never accepted anything from complete strangers. The two Avengers had come to their conclusion that you were still accustoming yourself to the norms of the new world, unaware of your ability to bewitch people with your natural appeal, however it was not long before they were proven wrong.
They didn't know if it was the fact that you were so familiar to Bucky and Steve, a comfort amongst all things new that made them more vulnerable to do anything for you, or if it was just your flirt, but they were immediately intrigued after seeing your interactions with the soldiers. They'd seen the way you spoke to the two soldiers just after coming out of the ice and hadn't noticed anything unusual apart from the fact you'd essentially come out of a time machine. As the weeks, months passed, they knew your intentions.
It had started by witnessing a simple conversation between you and the two soldiers. "Well I'm all nerves about going to speak to Agent Fury about that last mission. He's going to get all bent and blow a fuse." The two soldiers stood either side of you turned to face you in such synchrony it had almost been comical. Bucky was the first to speak, "Don't worry doll, I can go speak to him if you'd like. You shouldn't be the one he chews out." "Anyway," Cuts in Steve "We were the ones who screwed up honey, not you." From across the kitchen, Natasha rolled her shoulders back, nudging Tony with her elbow lightly as she stirred sugar into her coffee. Their eyes widened slightly at the wide smile sprawling itself on your face, peeking back and forth between the two men.
"Really? You boys don't have to do that just for me." Steve straightened his posture impossibly at your comment, but it was Bucky who beat him to the comment. "Honey, I'd do anything for a broad like you." You cocked your head to the side, a hand coming up to rest on his muscled bicep. "Why, thank you Sergeant. You dreamboats are too kind". Natasha's eyes trailed over to Tony when the three of you finally left, the two boys accompanying you seemingly wherever you wanted to go. "See, I didn't understand half of that conversation, but they are wrapped around her finger." Tony hummed "She's smarter than we thought."
The second time they witnessed it, they were convinced that you did it on purpose, their image of you quickly turning from innocent and naive to a femme fatale, manipulating men into thinking they're doing things for you because they want to. You'd all been hitting the bars, only missing Thor from the team. You had been occupying a large round booth, wedged between Bucky and Natasha, giggling with her about the man she found attractive sat at the bar, whilst the four men at the table shared stories. Natasha's eyes were quickly drawn to your hand as you placed it on Bucky's thigh, the man putting his own hand over yours almost instantly as he glanced down at you. You returned his look, grinning widely before turning back to your conversation with the tall red-head.
Natasha carried on with the conversation, pretending not to notice the intimate moment you'd shared with the soldier, but her jaw went slack nonetheless when Bucky leaned closer to you not two minutes later, whispering "You're drinking a margarita, right?" And rising from his seat when you nodded at him, humming in agreement. Bucky joined the group once more with two drinks in hand: one for him and one for you, smiling proudly when you cocked your head to the side, insisting he didn't have to. He only wrapped one muscled arm around your shoulders as a response, pulling you closer to him despite the humidity of the bar.
When you leant your head on Bucky's shoulder, stealing a glimpse up at him though, Natasha was no longer assured that those tricks up your sleeve were to get what you wanted. Perhaps you used them to get who you wanted. She sipped her drink instead of making a comment, afraid to scare you away with any questions when you'd only just begun getting close to her. Maybe in a couple of weeks during a girls' trip to the bathroom she'd bring up your relationship with him.
That girls' trip didn't end up being in a bathroom, but in a changing room, because next time something so significant had happened, the entire team was training together for the first time in a while, and Steve had declared that you were all doing a round robin. If you were still in the military, sure - you'd have moaned about it, throwing your head back in disappointment and hoping your supervisor hadn't seen you complain. But now, with the super-serum in your bloodstream? Well, you supposed you could be in a worst position, like Tony's, who didn't have any super-powers or spy training. With so many of you on the team, it'd take numerous matches for everyone to have their turn against each of their teammates, so after a quick warm-up, everyone had settled down on the mats of the martial arts training area to watch.
Soon later, everyone who was sat on the mats was trying to catch their breath as two team-mates sparred on the mats. Tony stood after Thor and Steve's match, adding another tally next to Thor's name on the big planning whiteboard before turning around with a wide smirk on his face. "Last match of the day." Bucky hopped up from next to you, sticking a hand out for you to take. Hesitantly, you took it, only for him to pull you up to your feet. "Us?" You asked, only for him to nod. "Well, I'm gonna let you have it, Barnes." You teased, tightening your ponytail. "Oh come on, might as well reach for the sky now, y/n."
"Steve, what the hell are they saying?" Called out Clint, leaning over to see the blonde man from across Natasha. "She's gonna hit him hard, and he says she should just give up now." Replied the man, taking another sip from his water. Tony picked up the whistle next to him, blowing into it, before scrambling back to watch with the others. The second the time started, Bucky faltered - how the hell was he supposed to hit you? But there was already a fist flying to his face which he barely dodged, instead swatting your wrist away from him.
You stared at him intensely from behind your fists, shielding your face, your eyebrows furrowing in confusion. "Come on Barnes!" Steve yelled from the sidelines. Bucky's face mirrored yours, his eyes laced with confusion, but he threw a fist anyhow, going for a body shot instead of your face. Nevertheless, you moved to the right, dodging his fist, and grabbing his arm as leverage to help you jump up. You threw your right leg over his shoulder, and behind his neck, swinging your other leg over his second shoulder, and crossing it over your right leg to trap his arm between your legs and over your torso. You tensed your quads as much as you could, hoping the triangle choke would work on him, but instead he used his metal arm to push your thigh over his head as much as he could. It was working, slowly but surely.
"Fuck" you muttered when he slipped his head in the gap between his shoulder and your thigh. You were now essentially hanging onto his arm, both legs over one shoulder. Before he could react, you flexed your core muscles, and sat up onto his shoulder. You released his arm, jumping off his shoulder so you landed behind him, and softly push-kicked him the back so he stumbled forward. As he did though, one hand reached behind him and grabbed your ankle, so you were dragged along with him. You slipped onto your back as he fell forward but Bucky was quicker, getting up instantly to straddle your hips. He leaned forward, above you, trying to get his arms around your neck to get you in a chokehold, but the second you giggled, he shot back up again.
"Sorry, that tickled." You insisted, hand coming to your neck to play the part better, a broad smile gracing your lips. Just as Bucky opened his mouth to say something, you reached out to grab both his hands, bucking your hips up and turning to the side to flip him over. You were on top of him in the blink of an eye, mimicking his movements as your arms snaked around his neck. You successfully put him in the same chokehold he had tried to put you in, but when you twisted your wrists, the blood supply to his face immediately cut off and you felt his hand tapping you twice on the shoulder. "You cheat." Was the first thing he said after his gasp for air, but you only shrugged, rolling off his chest. "I was only using sources available to me."
You giggled as you ran off to catch up to Natasha, already waiting for you by the doors to the changing room. "So..." She started, quite obviously. "So... What?" You echoed, looking up at her curiously, shimmying out of your shorts. You turn around so your back faces her as you struggle out of your sports bra, wrapping your towel around your sweaty body before spinning back around. "You and Bucky. This flirting has been going on for weeks. Do you like him, are you dating?" You laughed, cocking your head to the side. "You don't know?" She shook her head quickly, sitting down on a bench. On the other hand, you just opened one of the doors to the clean showers, calling out to her.
"Well, before the ice, me and Buck knew each other from the military, we got along well. The only problem was, he was my superior. I couldn't possibly make a pass at him and be known as the soldier who had the nerve to try and lay paws on her superior. But there was always something there..." At the lack of response, you stuck your head back out of the shower, to make sure Natasha was still there. "Natasha?" The spy looked at you with her mouth wide open in shock. "What!? And you never told me?" You shrugged, turning the water on. "Well I thought y'all knew."
Her silence told you enough about how much she really knew. As she muttered to herself on the other side of the door, you submerged yourself in the water, massaging shampoo into your hair, hearing flashes of "before the ice" and "he was your superior?" so you assumed she was still talking to you, even though you ignored most of what she said. You barely heard her goodbye and the sound of the changing room door opening and closing one more time, before the sound of water running was all you could hear.
"Y/n? Natasha let me in, she said you were done." You perked up at the sound of Bucky's voice, exclaiming "Here!" He approached the sound of your voice, stopping when he realised Natasha had deceived him. He stood in front of the dark wooden door, watching the steam dance in the space above your door. "Is it anything urgent?" The towel hanging from the door disappeared into the other side, and Bucky realised shaking his head wasn't enough of an answer because the door swung open to reveal you, soaking wet and completely naked with the exception of the small towel that barely covered your private parts. "Oh! Hey you!" You exclaimed, taken aback at his proximity, yet smiling all the while.
Bucky stood frozen in place, mouth ajar as he search for his words. "I'm sorry, I- I, you look beautiful." You giggled at his words, approaching his shirtless, freshly showered figure. His long hair was wet and skin was glistening, and he only wore a pair of jogger shorts to conceal himself. You have to admit, they weren't doing a great job and covering the growing tent in them. Your eyes trailed back up his body to meet his, smiling at him again. "Anything I can help you with, Sergeant?" Bucky's hands hesitantly rose to meet your hips. "I-No it's fine." Your hand met his and you dragged him with you three steps backwards, back into the shower you had just exited. You reached your arm behind him, locking the door once more.
"You're sure?" Bucky shook his head, pulling your hips flush against his as he slammed his lips against yours in a needy kiss. You gasped as your towel started to unravel, but you didn't try to stop it, wrapping your arms around Bucky's shoulders instead. When he separated from you, opening his eyes, they immediately widened, and his bit his lip, poorly trying to suppress a moan. You pushed Bucky back gently, urging him to sit on the small wooden bench. He sat down, legs spreading to make space for you between them, but when you started lowering yourself onto your knees, he shook his head frantically, begging "No, no, none of that, doll. I just want you sweetheart."
The cold metal of his arm flush against your skin chilled you as he wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you up to sit on his laps. He grunted, frantically pulling down his cotton shorts. You aided him at doing so, gasping when his cock sprung out, the absence of any underwear surprising you. You immediately took his dick in your hands, watching as Bucky's face scrunched up in pleasure. You guided him inside you, sitting down flat on his dick, but you couldn't help the loud moan that escaped you as you did. You whined, beginning to drag yourself up and down his dick, gradually speeding up your movements. Bucky's hips met your frantically, until his pace was so quick you couldn't keep up. "Buck!" At your plead, he wrapped an arm around you, using his metal one to support both your weights on the wall, and he stood up, walking forward until your back was pressed against the cold shower wall.
You gasped at its feeling against your skin, jerking forward once more when Bucky's metal hand came up to play with your nipples as his speed increased once more. Bucky leaned his forehead against yours, cussing loudly before biting his bottom lip in fear of being heard. His hand left your breasts, instead blinding searching for the shower handle. When he found it, he immediately pushed it upwards, the instant noise of water shooting out moderately covering the sounds of pleasure you made. Your wrapped your arms around his tighter, grinding your pussy onto his pelvis as he thrusted into you, your clit rubbing on the short hairs near the base of his dick.
You busied yourself pressing kisses on Bucky's neck, the water squelching between your bodies as you passionately moved against each other. "Fuck y/n" Bucky moaned, chasing your lips, panting against them once he met them in a deep kiss. Your hands cupped his face as you kissed, deepening it impossibly, and his metal hand went straight to your clit, rubbing circles on it as fast as he could. Your leg twitched and you didn't have time to warn him before you were cumming all over him. "Shit!" Bucky grunted, pulling out of you as he balanced you on the wall, his hand coming to jerk himself off quicker. You put your hand over his, legs still wrapped around his torso, teasing his sensitive tip as you stroked him up and down. With a deep shudder, white stripes of cum shot out of him, painting your belly white, only to be washed away with the shower's stream.
Bucky put you down gently, making sure you wouldn't slip before cupping your face with his large hands and bringing you in for a much slower, more passionate kiss. You pulled away from him, keeping him close as you peppered kisses all over his face. He laughed, trying to pull away from you and saying,
"We should have done this about 80 years ago doll, don't you think?

Okay number 7 for Cass and Bucky please??? Maybe it fits on the forced march?? I love them and your writing!
INJURY PROMPT BLURB ERA
7. “No. No, stop. Stop talking like that. You’re gonna be fine.”
not quite the march but how about john learning cass is in the camp?
tw: physical abuse
Tumblr media
Gale sees her first. Had heard the whispers and the murmurs around the yard that a girl was on the premises. Heard she was as beautiful as an angel and was floating around like she had built the place herself. After months and months of nothing but black and white photos to keep their appetites as bay, the men were restlessly watching and staring and doing their best to not let curiosity get the better of them. They assumed the ring around her neck meant she was already taken. And they would be correct. They just had no way of knowing she was taken by Major John Egan.
Her nose is broken and her vision out of her left eyes is blurry but she triumphantly has a stack of letters in her hand, all addressed to men of the 100th bomber group. Her first few days in camp are filled with violent interrogation but Cass is doing her best to grin through it. They would never be able to break her. Not with all the pain and suffering she had been through the past year and change.
She had found the mailroom with ease, rifling through the envelopes for names she recognized and shoving them inside John's sheepskin before the guards had dragged her off for her daily session of threats and beatings. But after they'd had their fun and had gotten no further in trying to get her to admit to being anything more than a lost Air Force Captain, she was stumbling back through the yard with her prize.
And when her knees buckle under the pain and black spots flash across her eyes, she is hit with a faint yet familiar smell of aftershave. Like the wind carried the last drop of it to her nose to keep her awake.
"Gale?" she mumbled as his hands landed under her arms and he dragged her over to the side of the nearest building. "I got your mail."
"What the hell are you doing here? Does John know you're here?" Cass chuckled and blinked up at him slowly, Gale's sleeve going to the blood trickling from her nose in an instant.
"This place would be ash if he did, Major." Gale sighed at the way her pupils were dilated and unable to focus on anything.
"You get knocked in the head a couple of times?" Cass nodded.
"Caught me getting these for you boys." She handed him the stack of letters and looked to her left at the sound of a group of voices. "I have to go." His hands shot out to steady her as she wobbled on her feet.
"Cass, I have to tell him."
"No, you don't. I'm working on getting the three of us out of here. Just give me some time to get everything into place." Gale looked to see who was in the group coming up on their position.
"Cass-" When he looked back she was gone. Drops of blood on the dirt the only sign she had ever been there at all.
-
John noticed that Buck was unusually quiet while they all played cards that night. He popped a few nuts in his mouth and watched the blonde man with barely concealed interest.
"Buck, you hear from Marge yet?" The other man's head snapped up.
"What would make you think that?" The letters were heavy in his coat pocket. He didn't quite want them to hand them out without knowing how to explain them first.
"Just trying to make conversation," John said as he raised his hand in surrender. He knew the mail being delayed was weighing on his friend but hadn't known it would inspire quite that reaction.
"Well, I heard we got a new member of our ranks today. One of a feminine nature," Benny teased around a puff of his cigarette. All the men groaned that they had heard the same.
"Heard she looked carved by God Himself."
"One of the guys who got shot down last month told me he saw her and tried to turn a pebble into a diamond."
"I think I saw the back of her head by the coal pits today and, let me tell you boys, I will happily die on my knees for her." John smirked, looking back over at his bed and the collection of pictures he had taped. Cass never sent him one with her face, telling him it was out of concern for her safety, but had managed to get creative. Her shadow in the flower field. The silhouette of her facing the sun. Close up pictures of her lips or her collarbone or her hands. Little pieces of her that aided the shards of his mind in puzzling her together every night before he tried to sleep.
"I'm sure she's got nothing on my wife," he added.
"Of course not, Major. There can be only one Spook Egan," Crank laughed.
"The depraved things you two are going to do when we get out of here. Kind of wish I could watch," Benny said as the rest of the man laughed.
"We'll let you listen, Demarco. Make sure you're billeted right next door as a thank you for letting Meatball keep my girl company while I'm away." John threw in the rest of his cards and waved the men to keep on playing before wistfully making his way over to his bunk to look more closely at the photos of his wife. God, how he missed her. he felt like they hadn't gotten to spend any time together at all before he had been ripped away. "I'm coming home to you, baby. I promise."
"Hey, Bucky?" John turned to see Gale, joining him in leaning against his bunk. "There's something you ought to know."
"Yeah? What is it? Everyone okay?" Shakily, Gale pulled the envelopes from his coat and rested them on the mattress. "Mail? How in the fuck did you get this?" His hands were sorting through in an instant to look to see if the next letters from his wife or mother had made it in this batch.
"The girl they've been talking about-"
"She some kind of Joan of Arc?" John smiled as he found four with his name on it. Three from his wife and one from his mother. "She's such a fucking angel, my wife."
"John, no, the girl they've been talking about, she's exactly your type." That got him to pause with a furrowed brow.
"My type? Gale, I've got no type anymore. Just a girl, my girl. The photos look a little chaotic but that is Cassandra Ann Egan right there. I'm a married man, I don't got a type."
"John, Cass is-" The door to their room banged open and two German officers were standing in their doorway.
"Make sure she gets medical attention." They practically spat as a tiny ball of yellow leather and white fur was thrown through the doorway, the frame rolling over and reaching for the metal bucket by the door to empty the contents of her stomach, blood trickling down her chin when she was done.
"Jesus fucking Christ," Hambone swore.
"No fucking way," Murphy whispered. Her breaths were shallow as she gripped at her side, her old rib injury flaring to life, her throat raw from coughing up blood for the last hour.
"Gentlemen," she wheezed, "where's-" Cass turned to the side and there he was. "John." His name came out of her mouth in a whimper. The first sign of emotion she had shown since she cried over his trunk all those months ago. All the uncertainty and fear of not having him by her side was wiped away as her gaze settled on him with no chain link in the way. He looked thinner and his hair was looser and maybe their was less of sparkle behind his eyes but he was John. It was really John, her John.
She reached for the chair to help herself stand up, Crank aiding her quickly, but she stopped when John turned to face away from her.
"Bucky? It's Cass. You're not hallucinating," Gale whispered as he rested his hand on his friend's shoulder.
"You keep her the fuck away from me, Gale." It felt worse than the Germans hands marring her skin. Worse than the pain of her miscarriage. Worse than the sight of John being beaten by rifles and dragged through the forest away from her. "I don't want to look at her. I don't want to hear her."
"No. No, stop. Stop talking like that. You’re gonna be fine," Gale reasoned.
"John-" she began to take a step towards him but he wheeled on her and she froze.
"Don't. Don't say my name like that. Don't try to rationalize this absolute lunacy." He was shaking with anger and Cass could see tears welling in his eyes. "Why the fuck would you do this? Why couldn't you just leave it be?" A piece of John had accepted he might die here. But at least she would be safe. Now, he was supposed to accept she would meet her fate in the same rat-infested hell hole? He could see a handprint around her neck. Bruising around her eye and blood dried onto her nose and chin. She was clutching her side like her rib was broken.
"Please let me-" Their door banged open once again, Cass recoiling slightly at the sight of a man who had been in the interrogation room just hours before. John noticed.
"You like putting your fucking hands where they don't belong?" He surged forward and all the boys followed, grabbing at pieces of him to try and hold him back. "You son of a bitch! I swear to God I'll-" The guard laughed and pulled the chain for their light and closed the door without another word.
"Alright, boys, let's all calm down and try to get some sleep. Our guest gets the bunk above Bucky. Everybody else figure it out," Gale ordered as John shook them off and they migrated to their respective beds.
Cass quietly shuffled past him and paused as she took one step up onto the lowest bunk, wincing at the pain. A strong chest pressed to her back and she shuddered at the contact, his nose burying itself in her hair now that they had the privacy of darkness.
"Where does it hurt?" he whispered.
"Everywhere," she relented. His hand replaced hers against her ribs, the warmth soothing the ache and goosebumps flittering across her skin. Cass could moan with how good his hand felt against her skin for the first time in over a year. Her hand rested on top of his and he removed it from her skin like she had burned him. In a way, she had.
"You need some sleep." She nodded. "And we need some ground rules."
"No one can know that we mean anything to each other. It just makes us both more of a target than we already are." Her eyes flickered to the collection of photos on his wall that were illuminated by the moon. She bit her lip to suppress her smile.
"I'm going to kill them all. Every last one of them who touched you." Starting with the three he had seen tonight. "No one else is going to hurt you, okay?"
"John?"
"Don't say it. Please don't fucking say it to me right now." There had been a time he had begged to hear her say she loved him. Now he doesn't think he could handle it.
He held onto her waist, holding her ribs steady, as she climbed onto the top bunk and pulled the blanket over her body. When she shivered ever so slightly, he tucked his own blanket around her shoulders without a word. John wordlessly tucked himself into his own bunk, staring through the top as best he could to listen for her grunts and groans as she tossed and turned. To remind himself she was alive.
And when her hand dropped down the side of the mattress and his own reached up to grab her fingers, and when they both screwed their eyes shut and cried at the pain of being apart and the unease of finally being back together, no one saw. No one had to know.
That was just between husband and wife.

I'm really curious about the runaway Gale AU! I would love to know more. How does he meet Bucky?
Tumblr media
Hello! Thanks for the ask @avonne-writes. It always makes my absolute day whenever I see that other people like my AUs. I just like rambling, but it's nice that other people like to hear it.
And I figured what better way to answer your questions than post part 1 of my HCs for this AU. Enjoy! And rest assured, there will never be an AU I write where the Buckies don't meet ;)
Runaway!Gale AU
He wasn’t sure he could be classed as a runaway at eighteen. In a lot of places, eighteen-year-olds were fully responsible, independent adults in the eyes of the law. But Gale didn’t have that luck. Wouldn’t for another three years.
And one night that seemed like three years too long to live under the yoke of his parents.
To be home, an obedient, the rest of his life? Gale couldn't bear it.
He’d tried, like most teenagers, to carve out some identity as he grew. Heck, he’d tried to grow; tried to find his boundaries and tried to make new friends, but quickly found himself grounded. Tried to get a job, but they wouldn’t drive him there or give him bus fare. Wouldn’t let him get lessons to learn to drive.
Every, "No, Gale", "You have responsibilities here, Gale", "Why would you break your mother's heart like that, Gale", made his skin feel tighter, his blood hotter, his jaw and neck tenser, until he felt like he was going to combust and transform under the pressure to be who they wanted him to be, and it wasn't himself.
One day, he walked passed a recruiting office and by the time he blinked he was inside, talking to a uniformed officer and leaving with an application form tucked under his arm. He hid that application form for the US Air Force, to a career, an education and a purpose - all the things his parents had denied him - under his mattress.
Only, his dad had found it.
Gale came home from tending to the horses, the one chore he actually enjoyed, and headed to his room to wash up for dinner. When he opened the door, he saw the confetti of his last hope strewn over his bedroom floor, torn to shreds.
No one said anything at dinner and neither did he.
That night after his parents fell asleep, Gale packed his backpack full of clothes and, despite the guilt making his hands shale, grabbed a fistful of notes from his father’s secret stash and was on the first bus out of town.
It took him to Denver, Colorado.
It was a late bus, and he gets into Denver after the sun came up. He spends that first day wandering the streets. He spends as little as he can on a bite to eat, knowing he has to be sparing with his cash. He scopes to see what kind of 'help wanted' signs are in windows, but mostly, he just…walks. He goes wherever he wants to, on his own clock. He savours his first taste of freedom, of independence, slow. Like quality chocolate.
When evening comes he thinks about finding as cheap a room as possible. He stops a guy on the street and asks for directions to a motel. The guy looks him up and down but smiles friendly enough and directs him to Colfax Avenue.
Gale follows the directions as best he can, but he feels off the further he goes. He’s almost relieved when a complete stranger runs across the street, booming at him:
“BUCK!”
Gale doesn’t know what he looks like, but it can’t be good because by the time the man realise he’s got the wrong guy, he holds his palms up, placating, and asks Gale if he’s okay without even introducing himself.
And without introducing himself, Gale asks wide-eyed, for the first time in his entire life, “Please help me.”
John’s concern collapses into a smile - until he hears where Gale is heading.
“Well someone’s trying to get to robbed, stabbed or worse. Don’t you be going anywhere near there, buck.”
John helps Gale find a motel in a modest part of town and gives Gale his number in case he gets lost again. As Gale watches him walk away, he finally remembers -
“Gale!”
John whirls around. “Uh, no. John. Or Bucky.”
Gale blushes but grins small. “I’m Gale, dummy.”

Reminder: I am on a posting break for new content until May 23rd so that I can focus on writing WFLT...
In the meantime, please enjoy this second installment of Unwanted: Unusables, or, chapters from the first draft that didn't make it into the final cut of the finished story! Today, I have an early version of Chapter 6: Unattached. A lot of the beginning is the same (the dinner itself), but there was a LOT I added, then removed, from the end of the chapter. Jade was going by Jewel at this point in the draft, and Tony had gifted Pocket a Ferrari Sergio as his post-Civil War apology.
Why did I scrap this section? Easy: I couldn't realistically convince myself that Nat didn't know how to drive stick shift, lol.
Since this is the whole chapter (as it was) in its entirety, it's long AF.
Enjoy!
You and Bucky arrived at the common room an hour or so later, the sound of laughter filtering out from inside.
"Sounds like it's going well," Bucky turned to you with a hopeful smile. "Try to play nice in there, okay?"
"I'm always nice," you pouted, but when Bucky gave you a pointed look, you sighed. "Fine. It goes against my better judgement," you said, adjusting the collar of Bucky's shirt, "but I'll do it for you."
The look he gave you was indiscernible. There was warmth and affection there, but also an undercurrent of sadness in it that left you unsettled. You swallowed, looking away from him. "Alright, let's get this over with," you said, putting more conviction in your voice than you felt.
He took your hand, and together you walked into the common room. It wasn't hard to spot Jewel-- she was presiding smack dab in the middle of the room, telling some story that had Sam, Steve, Rhodey, Thor, and even Bruce all at rapturous attention.
"I'm going to go introduce myself real quick, then be right back," said Bucky, letting go of your hand and heading over to where Jewel had was holding court. The temperature of the air seemed to drop ten degrees without the warmth of his presence by your side.
You watched as he made his way over to stand beside Steve. In seemingly no time at all, Steve was making the introductions. Bucky took Jewel's hand, and to your surprise, he bent over and kissed her knuckles. Your mind's eye took you back to the day you'd met him, when you'd pulled your own hand back after he'd refused to even shake it.
Jewel demurred and looked away from Bucky, bashfully, before putting a hand on his chest and saying something that made Bucky laugh and caused his cheeks to blush.
"Careful, you glare any harder, you're liable to bore a hole straight through him," Natasha said, coming up alongside of you.
"What if I aim for her, instead?" you asked, reaching for the tumbler of alcohol she offered you and taking a sip to distract yourself.
"What happened to no-strings-attached, friends who happen to fuck?" Nat asked with a smirk. "Don't tell me you've grown strings, Pocket."
You looked away from the scene in front of you. "There might be some growing of string, in theory," you mumbled to her. Nat was the only person you had confided in regarding your arrangement with Bucky. Of course, your friend had been thrilled that there had been something going on between the two of you, but she'd been more concerned about protecting your heart-- was this the safest thing for you to do? You assured her at the time you'd be fine, but now...?
"String Theory?" asked Tony, popping up behind you both with a glass of whiskey. "Seems like a heavy topic of conversation for a social gathering, ladies."
"How'd the interview go?" you asked, hoping to move the topic of conversation as far away from Bucky as possible, now that Tony was there.
"She's everything you said, and more," said Tony with a sad shake of his head. "She put on a good show, though. Cap was eating right out of her hand."
Disappointment coursed through you at his words. "Looks like he's not the only one," you murmured as you watched Jewel let out a coquettish giggle at something Bucky said.
You kept up your conversation with Tony to keep yourself from openly staring, but it was hard to concentrate on anything else. Your heart sank every time they shared a laugh or a joke, or Jewel leaned into Bucky ever so slightly. You found yourself tensing each time Bucky reached out and put a hand on Jewel's arm or shoulder in response to something she said-- all too familiar gestures that you'd grown accustomed to being on the receiving end of, not watching him impart on others from a distance. So much for his "be right back."
You hated yourself for feeling this way.
Eventually, Tony's personal chef, Raul, called everyone to the table for dinner and the little gathering around Jewel broke up. Normally, you would be excited-- you loved it when Raul cooked special dinners for the team, but tonight you were on edge. Following Nat and Tony to the table, you froze in your tracks while you watched Bucky pull back a chair-- your chair, the one you had sat in, next to Bucky, for every meal for the last year-- for Jewel, pushing it in for her as she sat down.
Your heart felt like it was being ripped in half. Your brain automatically began thinking up excuses you could make for leaving the room, but you knew that would only make things worse for you in the long run.
The air around you suddenly felt as though it had grown colder. Everyone around you had noticed Bucky pull out a chair for Jewel-- silently declaring to all that tonight, she was the one he wanted next to him, and not you, despite your unspoken ritual. Sam shot you a sympathetic look, and Steve, who had been getting ready to sit at Bucky's other side, moved to offer you his chair, instead, as if that would make up for Bucky's slight.
You grimaced and silently shook your head at Steve, not wanting to draw any more attention to the awkward situation you found yourself in. Instead, you made your way to the only remaining seat at the table next to Nat-- directly across from Jewel and Bucky.
As you sat down, Jewel looked up at you with a bright smile. "Hi," she said, voice like honey. "I don't think we had a chance to meet yet. I'm Jewel, but you can call me 'Vixen.'"
You looked at her, confusion leaking into your features.
"I thought the two of you met when you gave Vixen her tour earlier," Bucky said, apparently remembering that you did exist, after all.
"Oh, no," Jewel (you absolutely refused to refer to her as 'Vixen,' even in your own head) said with a dismissive laugh, "they had some little bitch of an intern give me my tour. I should actually complain to Stark about her, she had an attitude."
"No, that was definitely me," you said, fighting to keep the annoyance out of your tone, "attitude and all." You had literally wasted three and a half hours of your life escorting this woman around the Tower and she couldn't be bothered to remember you? Jewel didn't even have the decency to look chastised at calling you bitchy to your face.
"They let interns have dinner with the Avengers?" she asked in disbelief, instead. "Have to say, I thought it be a little more... elite."
"Pocket's not an intern," Steve said with a laugh, as though it were the most ridiculous thing he'd ever heard, and you were grateful to him for coming to your defense. "She's an Avenger, just like the rest of us." You gave Steve a warm, appreciative smile.
"Thanks, Cap," you said, truly touched he had called you an Avenger.
"Well, she's more like Avenger-adjacent," Bucky amended. The words shouldn't have stung-- it was how you had referred to yourself hundreds of times, but you tended to reserve it for your low moments, when you were feeling unequal to Earth's mightiest heroes. Hearing the words come out of Bucky's mouth, as if he, too, shared in your belief that you were inferior to the rest of them... well, that fucking hurt.
Steve let out a surprised laugh. "Pocket may not have enhanced physical abilities, but she's brilliant. She's an expert in strategy, she's got a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Computation, and she's got a black belt in Krav Maga. It's no exaggeration to say I'd be dead a couple dozen times over if I hadn't had her at my six. If anything, I think it makes her more important than the rest of us. We're here because of the physical things we can do; Pocket's essential to the team because of how she thinks. We're replaceable, Pocket's one-of-a-kind."
You were speechless at Steve's words, your throat tightening with the emotional lump that had formed there. That may have been the kindest, sweetest thing anyone had said about you, ever, especially on the heels of Bucky's comment. Catching his eye, you mouthed a silent thank you, wishing you could convey how much his words meant to you. He winked at you in acknowledgement.
"I just meant that we try to keep Pocket away from the dangerous stuff," Bucky backpedaled, weakly, in your opinion. "Can't risk her getting hurt." He smiled at you, but you just stared back, impassively, until he looked away, embarrassed. He knew you only called yourself 'Avenger-adjacent' when you were being hard on yourself. He fucking knew it, because he had told you to knock it off a hundred times.
"So, Pocket's an interesting name," Jewel said, and you were momentarily grateful to her for trying to move the conversation on to something less embarrassing for you. "Did your parents, like, hate you or something?" she continued with a giggle. Well, that was a short-lived respite.
"Yeah, they did, actually," you said, completely straight-faced, "but the feeling was mutual, so no love lost there."
Jewel's mouth dropped open in shock and you had the distinct impression you'd ruined whatever power play she'd been trying to pull on you.
Nat broke into laughter next to you, and soon everyone else around you was joining in. While only a select few at the table knew the full extent of what your parents had put you through, it was no secret that you had experienced abuse at their hands, and it was second nature for you to use dark humor to help you cope with it.
As the laughter died down, the small talk started up again. You were thankful for the distraction, but your appetite was gone, which was a shame, because Raul had done an excellent job. You pushed your food around your plate, occasionally nodding along as though you were paying attention to the conversations around you.
You tried to ignore the little glances and gestures that Jewel directed at Bucky, but your eyes kept flickering over to them. You couldn't help but notice the way his body leaned in slightly towards hers when they talked. Did he do that when he spoke to you? He hadn't even said a word to you since the horrible Avengers-adjacent comment.
"So, Bucky," Jewel said, her voice low and flirty, "handsome super hero like you, you got a girlfriend?" Your eyes snapped up, watching him, sure he was going to look to you, make eye contact. Something to acknowledge what was between you, that would make you feel like you were still in the same room, hell, on the same fucking planet, as him. But he didn't.
Bucky grinned, running a hand through his hair.
"Nah, no girlfriend," he said, glancing over at Jewel. "But I'm definitely open to the idea." You had been stabbed in the abdomen on a mission once, and that hurt less than hearing the words that came out of Bucky's mouth, and you had to resist the urge to get up and leave the room at that moment.
"Really, man?" Sam asked from where he sat on the other side of Natasha, his voice hard in disbelief. The atmosphere in your corner of the table had shifted. Natasha, Steve, and Sam all stared at Bucky with looks ranging from incredulity to flat out disgust. Maybe the two of you hadn't been as secretive as you'd thought.
You couldn't bring yourself to even look at Bucky anymore. It felt like a betrayal, the way his eyes had met Jewel's and not yours. You tried to focus on the conversation around you, but all you could hear were your own thoughts. How could he be so callous as to openly flirt with someone else in front of you? Had you meant nothing to him?
You took a deep breath, trying to steel yourself against the pain that was slowly building inside of you. You knew that the two of you were never anything official, but you had thought that there was something there between you.
As the dinner continued, you couldn't shake the misery that had settled in your chest. You excused yourself with no explanation, abruptly getting up from the table, and made your way back to your room. Once you were alone, you let out a shaky breath, tears streaming down your face.
How could you have been so stupid? You had let yourself believe that there could be something real between you and Bucky, but clearly, you had been wrong. He was interested in Jewel and you were just a convenient friend. Being kept in a holding pattern until something better came along.
You collapsed onto your bed, burying your face in your pillow as sobs wracked your body. How could you even face him now, knowing that he had no real interest in you beyond your friendship, after all the things you had done together? You didn't know if you could bear being in the same room with him, pretending like everything was okay between the two of you.
As you lay there, lost in your thoughts, you barely registered the sound of your phone buzzing from your bedside table. Picking it up, you saw you had a new message from Nat.
Do you want me to kill them?
You wiped away your tears, a small smile tugging at the corner of your lips. Leave it to Natasha to offer such a straightforward solution. Despite your heartache, you couldn't help but appreciate her loyalty and fierce protectiveness.
You typed back:
No, as tempting as it might be. Thank you for offering, but I don't want you sent away for double homicide.
Her response was almost instantaneous:
I'm insulted you assume I'd get caught :)
The smiley face at the end was too much, and you actually laughed. You were so grateful to have her as your friend.
Thanks for having my back, Natty.
Any and every time, Pocket. You know that <3
Other texts started trickling in from the rest of your family. Everyone checking in to make sure you were okay, since you had left the table so suddenly and without giving a reason.
But none came from Bucky.
Your suite suddenly felt too small and hot-- you needed to get out, go somewhere that wasn't covered in memories of Bucky so that you could breathe. There was only one thing you did that always helped clear your head. You needed to go dancing.
You changed your clothes for the third time today, opting for a pair of skintight, red leather pants and a black halter top. You did your hair and put on some makeup-- just enough to mask that you'd been crying, but still enough to turn a man's head.
Shoving your phone, ID, and credit card into your back pocket, you left your room and headed back to the common room. You could have just texted Nat to ask her if she wanted to come with you, but you wanted to see Bucky's reaction to how you looked, if he even had one at all.
You were surprised to find the common room far emptier than you'd left it a little over an hour ago. It seemed as though, once dinner had ended, the gathering had broken up and people had started going their own way. Glancing around, you saw Nat standing by a window, looking out over the Manhattan skyline, but Bucky and Jewel were nowhere to be seen. You tried to ignore the rock that had taken up residence in your stomach.
"Natty," you called, getting her attention. She met you halfway across the room, a large grin spread across her face.
"Damn, girl," she let out a low whistle as she assessed your outfit. "You trying to give Barnes a heart attack?" she asked.
"No," you said, "I want to go dancing. I need to get out of my head. You want to come?"
"Absolutely, if only to keep you from making any decisions you might regret in the morning." She paused, assessing you. "He's walking her out, by the way. In case you were wondering where they were."
You had, but your stomach soured at the knowledge, all the same.
Down in the lobby, you were just about to call an Uber for you and Nat when you spotted Bucky standing off to the side with Jewel. They were standing far too close together for your liking. You hoped you could sneak by without attracting their attention, but Jewel caught sight of the two of you and began waving you over.
"Natasha!" she called (okay, so maybe she wasn't waving you over). "Come join us!"
Nat gave you a questioning look, silently asking what you wanted to do.
"Might as well," you muttered. "Night's already gone mostly to hell."
You and Nat made your way over to where Jewel and Bucky were standing.
"Did you come to say goodbye?" Jewel asked Nat, the eagerness in her voice palpable.
"Uh, no," Nat replied, obviously confused. "Pocket and I are heading out. We're going dancing."
"Oh. My. God." Jewel practically started jumping up and down. "Bucky, we should go dancing with her!" It wasn't lost on either you or Natasha that Jewel seemed to be purposefully excluding you from the conversation. Bucky, unsurprisingly, didn't seem to notice.
"Sorry," you said, suddenly struck with inspiration, "but the car's only a two-seater. Maybe next time."
Nat raised a questioning eyebrow at you as you picked your phone out of your pocket and dialed the Tower's garage. "Hey, Carl, it's Pocket.... Good, thanks... you?... Listen, can you have someone bring my Sergio to the front entrance? I'll be taking it out tonight... I know ... Great... thanks!" You ended the call and looked to Nat. "They'll bring the car up in just a minute."
Nat couldn't hide the grin that had spread across her face. "Finally! I have been dying to get my ass into that car forever!
"What's a Sergio?" Jewel asked. "I've never heard of it before."
"I wouldn't have expected you to," Nat said, giving Jewel a tight, fake smile. "Seeing as how Ferrari only ever made six of them."
"Pocket," Bucky said, the first words he'd spoken to you since you and Nat had arrived, "can I talk to you for a minute?" He took your arm and led you away from Nat and Jewel to a more secluded section of the lobby.
"What are you doing?" he asked, voice low and with a hint of warning behind it.
"Going dancing with Nat," you said simply.
"Come on, you never drive that car. You're too scared of damaging it. So, how come the first time you decide to take it for a spin is right in front of Jewel?"
"What are you insinuating, Bucky?" you asked defensively. He looked at you as though you were a child lying about who broke Grandma's favorite vase.
"You're pissed about the intern comment, so you want to flaunt how much money you make. That's really not like you, Pocket. I'm disappointed."
You were physically taken aback by his words. "You honestly think I'd do something like that?" you asked, incredibly offended he could think such a thing of you.
"I didn't think so, but..." he let the rest of the statement hang in the air.
"I called for the fucking car because I didn't want her just inviting herself to join Nat and me," you snapped. "It has absolutely nothing to do with showing off how much money I have."
Bucky ran his hands through his hair in frustration. "God, Pocket, would it kill you to be nice to her for just a minute? I don't understand why you have it out for her so badly."
"That girl has been nothing but nasty to me all day," you said through gritted teeth. "And if you haven't noticed that by now, nothing I say is going to make you see it." God, you were so disappointed in him. The hurt and betrayal you'd felt earlier had subsided and now you just felt... sad. Deflated. "I don't want to argue with you, Buck. Especially not about her. So, can we just agree to disagree on this, and Nat and I can be on our way? I'm sure you have more important things you'd rather be doing than giving me the third degree, anyway."
He crossed his arms, giving you a hard stare. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Tilting your head, you pursed your lips and gave him a look. "Really? Everyone noticed it, Bucky. Everyone."
"Pocket!" Nat called out to you, preventing Bucky from responding to your insinuation. "Car's here!"
With a heavy sigh, you began to make your way to the front doors. "See you later, Barnes," you called over your shoulder. You were more than ready to get out of there and lose yourself in the music.
*
Hours later, you were coated in a sheen of sweat from dancing and completely and utterly shitfaced. You hadn't intended to get drunk, let alone this drunk, but once the alcohol started numbing your feelings, all you wanted to do was drown your emotions in it. Now, you were sitting in a booth in the club, head pressed against the wall, fighting to keep your eyes open. Nat had taken your phone and was talking to someone.
"Hey, it's Natasha. Can you do me a solid and meet up with us? ... Pocket's plastered and I don't know how to drive stick. ... It means I can't get her car home. ... She already shares her location with you, right? So just take an Uber. ... You can drive her back to the Tower and I'll take the Uber home. ... Did you forget how she dragged your ass home when you were drunk on Thor's Asgardian shit? ... I'd say you owe her. ... Text her phone when you get here; I'm holding onto it. ... Good, see you in a bit." She hung up and bent down so she was at eye level with you.
"Sweetie," she said gently, "don't be mad at me, but I called Bucky to come get you and bring your car home."
You scrunched up your face in disgust. "Bucky? Ew. I'm mad at him. He sucks."
"I know, honey, but he's the only other person I know who can drive stick who's awake at this hour, and your car's too expensive to leave in valet parking overnight." She brushed your hair away from your face as you turned to look at her.
"What's wrong with me, Natty?" you asked her, your emotions fighting their way back up through the haze of the alcohol.
"Nothing, Pocket. Honey, nothing's wrong with you. Why would you ask me that?" Nat's voice was full of concern.
"Why doesn't he love me, then? Why am I good enough to fuck, but not good enough to love?" The last of the words came out in a choked sob.
Nat wrapped her arms around you, rubbing her hands up and down your back in a soothing pattern. "You'd have to ask him that, sweetie. I can't answer it for him."
"It's 'cause I'm just a gross, used up whore," you told her. "'s all I've ever been good for-- sticking dicks in. Nothing else."
Nat held you at arm's length so she could look you in the eye. "Pocket, stop. That's Darren talking, not you, honey. You know that's not true."
"Then why doesn't he want me?" you hiccuped. "Fuck, Natty. 'm so in love with him, it hurts." There. You finally admitted it, not just to Nat, but to yourself. You were in love with your best friend, and you had been for a while now. You'd been too afraid to acknowledge it, to open yourself up to the idea that maybe you could have a real relationship with him, and now it was too late. He'd found someone else, and you'd missed any chance you might have had.
"I know, sweetheart," she said, embracing you again. "Everyone knew and, for what it's worth, we were all sure he felt the same way."
"He doesn't, though," you sniveled into her shoulder. "And why'd it have to be her? Natty, she's so awful. He could have anyone he wanted, why did he have to pick her?"
Natasha sighed. "Because he's a guy, and he thinks with his dick," she told you. "And since dicks don't have eyes, it makes it hard for men to see what someone like Jewel's really like. Especially when Jewel doesn't want them to."
You snorted, imagining Bucky's dick with googly eyes attached to it. "His dick was the best, Nat," you bemoaned. "I'm going to miss it so much. So many times, when we were finished, I couldn't even walk after."
It was Nat's turn to snort. "That does sound like some good dick, Pocket," she admitted.
"And his tongue," you sighed. "'s so long, you wouldn't believe--"
"Okay, Pocket, I think that's enough sharing, don't you?" You pouted but didn't say anything else.
Your phone buzzed then, and you looked all around for it before you watched Nat pull it from her pocket and look at the text you'd just received."
"Alright, Magic Dick's here," she said, taking your hands in hers and hoisting you up. "Up you go."
With her help, you stumbled out of the club, only tripping over your own feet twice, which you thought was fairly impressive, given the circumstances.
Outside, Bucky was waiting for you, a stony expression on his beautiful face. God, he looked so handsome. "Magic Dick," you whispered to Nat, then burst into a fit of drunken giggles that had you tripping over yourself all over again.
Bucky was immediately at your side, taking your weight off of Nat and putting it on him.
"Well, hey there, Magic Dick," you giggled. Bucky shot Nat a look over your head.
"How much has she had to drink?" he asked her.
Nat handed the valet the claim ticket for your car. "More than she should have, that's for sure."
While you waited for the valet to bring your Sergio around, Nat leaned down to look at you. "I'm going to get in the Uber now, Pocket. Bucky's gonna take you home, alright?"
You nodded and reached out to drunkenly stroke her face. "Okay, Natty-Nat. Love you."
"Love you, too, sweetheart." She kissed your forehead and headed for the waiting Uber. Before she got in, she turned to Bucky. "Don't give her any shit tonight, okay?" she ordered before closing the door, leaving you and Bucky to wait for the car alone.
"What's going on with you tonight, Pocket?" he asked. "You haven't been acting like yourself." The car pulled up and the valet held the door open for Bucky as he slid you into the passenger seat.
"Just wanted to dance," you murmured, tilting your head sideways to look at him as he fastened your seat belt. "Makes me feel better. And then there was alcohol. Oops."
Bucky let out a sigh as he closed the passenger door and made his way around to the driver's side. He had a point; you seldom got drunk. It reminded you too much of your mother, so you only ever let yourself get a little buzzed. But tonight was a special occasion.
Bucky pulled out of the lot and onto the street. Even at the late hour, New York was still alive with activity. You leaned your head on the windowsill and watched the lights as they passed by.
"You're supposed to be on my side, you know." The words were a whisper, and you'd spoken them into the night. If he had been anyone else, he wouldn't have heard you.
But he wasn't anyone else. He was Bucky. "I am on your side, Pocket. Always."
Though it felt incredibly heavy, you turned your head to face him. He looked so beautiful driving your convertible, the lights of the city reflecting off the lines of his face, the warm night breeze tickling his hair.
"You weren't tonight." Your voice was small, reflecting every bit of the self-doubt you'd felt over the course of the evening, every ounce of the pain.
Bucky sighed, his flesh hand gripping the steering wheel of the Sergio so tightly his knuckles were white. "I don't know what you want from me, Pocket."
You let out an exhausted sigh, the beautiful drunken haze fading from your system and leaving an ache in its wake. You're stomach growled and you remembered you hadn't eaten much dinner. "Can we get something to eat," you asked him, "and go somewhere to talk?" He nodded and changed course, heading away from the Tower.
A few minutes later, he pulled the Sergio into the well-lit parking lot of a 24-hour diner. Like lightning, he was out of the car and coming around to open your door before you'd even finished fumbling with your seat belt. He reached his flesh hand down to help you step out of the car, and to your surprise, didn't let go, hold your hand as you walked into diner together. Most likely making sure you didn't drunkenly fall on your ass and embarrass him, you thought.
Inside, the perky blonde hostess gave Bucky a long, appraising look while he asked for a table in the back. Even at this time of night, the diner was bustling with patrons. The sound of chatter and clinking cutlery filled the air, competing with the soft buzz of fluorescent lights overhead. Waitstaff hurriedly made their rounds, taking orders and carrying plates with a clatter of dishes.
When you reached the back, you slid into the booth the hostess directed you to, and instead of sitting across from you, Bucky slid in next to you. The hostess handed you your menus before casting a final, lingering glance at Bucky and walked off, leaving you alone with the super soldier and not sure what exactly you were going to say to him.
You unwrapped your silverware and began playing absentmindedly with the band that had been holding your napkin in place. You could feel Bucky's eyes on you, but you didn't turn to meet his gaze until you felt the fingers of his metal hand gently reach over and brush a strand of hair away from your face.
"You wanted to talk, doll," he said, softly, "so let's talk."
You bit your lip and turned to meet his eyes, the blue of them so soft and gentle as he looked at you. "I'm not saying this to attack you, Buck," you began, gathering your thoughts, "or to try and make you feel bad, but you really made me feel like shit tonight."
He swallowed thickly, but before he could answer you, your waitress approached the booth to take your order. You ordered a chicken Caesar wrap and a glass of chocolate milk for yourself; Bucky ordered a coffee and a large basket of waffle fries.
Once the waitress had left, Bucky turned back to you, taking your hand in his metal one and lacing your fingers together. "The last thing I ever want to do is hurt you," he told you. He brought your hand to his mouth, placing a tender kiss on your knuckle. "I'm sorry. I was a dick tonight. Finding out that Jewel has the same kind of abilities as I do... it made me feel less alone, like maybe I'm not just a fucked up science experiment that went horribly wrong."
"Buck..." you began, but he continued talking.
"It doesn't excuse how I treated you tonight, but I was so eager to get to know to her, to see how she copes with it. I've only ever had Steve to talk to about it, and Steve's... well..."
"Steve's fucking Captain America," you provided, understanding now where Bucky was coming from. "The perpetual boy scout. You don't want to open up to him about the darker stuff, because you're afraid it will change how he sees you."
Bucky closed his eyes and nodded. "He's already done so much to save me from the worst parts of myself; I don't want to burden him with any more than I already have."
You cupped his jaw with your hand. "Steve loves you, Buck. He will never see you as a burden. I promise you that."
He smiled at you, but it was sad. "I already cost him so much. More than you realize, Pocket. It just felt like, with Jewel, maybe I could have someone else to discuss those parts of myself with, someone I wasn't afraid of letting down."
Your first instinct was to be hurt that he felt he couldn't share those parts of himself with you, but you realized why he wasn't able to.
As if reading your thoughts, he said: "Please don't think it means that I want to share things with her instead of you, though. That will never be the case."
"But there are things that I'll just never be able to fully understand," you supplied, "because I'm not a super soldier. I understand."
He nodded, leaning his head down until his forehead was pressed against yours. "But I don't need to be friends with her," he said. "You said she was horrible to you, and I believe you. That's not the kind of person I want in my life. You're the most important thing in the world to me. I need you to know that."
You would have sworn you felt your heart momentarily stop. More important to him than Steve? Your cheeks grew warm at the implication.
"Bucky, I never want to be the kind of person who tells you who you can or can't be friends with. If talking to her helps you process whatever you need to process, then please, do it." You nuzzled your nose against his. "Just, you know, never flirt with her in front of me again."
He pulled his head back and looked at you, a knowing smirk plastered across his face. "Doll, are you telling me you're jealous?" You made a scoffing sound and playfully pushed him away from you. You were treading dangerously close to feelings territory, and you'd only just gotten back to a good place with him; you weren't about to risk it, but you weren't going to lie to him, either.
You ran a hand through his hair, leaning closer until your lips were pressed against the shell of his ear. "You know I've never been a good girl when it comes to sharing, Bucky," you breathed before taking his earlobe into your mouth and sucking on it.
Bucky let out a low groan and shot his metal hand over to possessively grasp your upper thigh, sending a shiver through you. "Be careful, doll," he growled in the way that had you clenching your legs together, "otherwise I'm liable to bend you over this table and fuck you so hard, you won't remember your own name."
You pulled away from him. "Promises, promises," you teased.
Before Bucky could follow through on his threat, the waitress returned with your orders. Without thinking, you handed Bucky half of your wrap at the same time he deposited a generous handful of waffle fries onto your plate. Catching your eye, he gave you an amused grin, and you both burst into laughter. The tension between you two seemed to dissipate, replaced by the comfortable banter you were used to.
The conversation throughout the meal was light, ranging from random anecdotes to plans for the next day. Occasionally, Bucky would say something that made you giggle uncontrollably, causing a few patrons to give you curious glances. But he just flashed them his charming smile, making most of them blush and turn away.
After finishing your meals, you scooted closer to him, resting your head on his shoulder as you watched the diner's activity. His arm automatically wrapped around you, pulling you closer into his side. You could hear his heart beating steadily in his chest, a soothing rhythm that made your eyes droop sleepily.
"You alright there?" Bucky asked softly, noticing your languidness. You hummed in response, too comfortable to move or open your eyes properly.
"Gettin' sleepy," you admitted as you tried to stifle a yawn. "'s been a long night."
"Then let's get you home before you turn into a pumpkin, princess." Bucky helped you out of the booth, then tucked you into his side so you could lean against him as you walked toward the counter to pay your bill. You tried to hand Bucky your Amex card, but he shooed your hand away. "I got it, doll. Least I can do after everything I put you through tonight."
You didn't argue with him, not because you didn't have the energy to, but because you knew it was his way of making amends. He settled the bill quickly, leaving a generous tip, then led you back out of the diner into the cool night air. You leaned against his sturdy form as he walked you both back to the Sergio, opening the door for you and helping you with your seat belt, despite your protests.
"I'm not that drunk anymore, Buck," you laughed as he leaned over you to click the belt into place.
"Damn it, woman, be quiet and let me take care of you!" He pressed a quick kiss to your lips before closing the door and making his way around to the driver's side.
Though the drive to the Tower wasn't very long, you quickly found yourself lulled into a comfortable stupor, your mind at peace for the first time in what what felt like weeks. You barely registered when Bucky pulled into the Tower's underground garage, or stopped to give the Sergio's keys to the night parking attendant. You were vaguely aware of him picking you up and cradling you in his arms as he carried you back to his room.
Once inside, he carefully helped you strip out of your pants and halter top and into one of his shirts. Once you'd changed, he tucked you both into his bed, curling his body against yours until you didn't know where his body ended and yours began.
"Better?" he asked, softness threading his voice. You hummed in response, half asleep as your body molded into his welcoming warmth.
A soft chuckle rumbled through his chest, "Sweet dreams, doll," he murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to your temple as he adjusted the sheets around you both. His metal arm wound under your pillow comfortably while the other rested on your waist, giving you a sense of protection that no fortress could offer.
You curled closer into him, snuggling into his broad chest like a kitten seeking warmth. His steady heartbeat and slow breathing became your lullaby, luring you closer to sleep with every second.
He stroked your hair gently as you fell off into sleep, whispering words of affection and apology into the quietness of the night.

---------------------------
A shopping spree with Yelena was actually something on her list of fun things to do. Until Yelena insisted on choosing several new outfits for her, most of the items far out of her comfort zone.
But, at least Yelena didn’t make her try them on at the store. She was able to wait until she was in the safety of her home, where she could laugh at how ridiculous she looked.
She had been so preoccupied with trying on the way-too-revealing clothing that she didn’t hear Bucky come home. And as she stood in front of the mirror, silently critiquing her figure - that Yelena had tried to convince her she needed to show off - she didn’t even realize he was watching her from the doorway, his eyes on her new outfit.
A high-waisted skirt and cropped shirt. The combination showing just a hint of soft skin at her waist. Her beautiful thick thighs on display.
He’d never seen her in anything like it, and it instantly made him hard, his mind filled with all sorts of dirty images of what he wanted to do to her.
Just when he was about to announce his presence, his sensitive ears picked up her quiet voice. The silent critique that had been in her head had turned vocal, and she mumbled something about her body that made Bucky immediately growl.
“Princess.”
The single utterance of her nickname made goosebumps spread across her skin, and she knew no excuses would get her out of this.
She was in trouble.
She’s not allowed to talk negatively about herself - about the woman he loves - and she’s especially not allowed to talk about her body like that. A body that he worships every chance he gets.
That’s how she ends up in front of their large mirror, leaning back against Bucky with her skirt hiked up, showing him how wet she is. Her legs are hooked over his thighs, his body keeping her spread wide for him, not giving her a chance to hide any part of herself from either of them.
Every time her eyes drift away from the mirror, he forces her to look again, whispering every bit of praise that comes to mind, making sure to pay attention to all the places she’s insecure about, refusing to let her think one bad thing about herself.
It’s not long before she’s a mess, dizzy with need, her body on fire, and he’s barely even touched her.
Her eyes meet his in the mirror, and she squirms as best as she can, rubbing back against his covered erection as his hands move along her thighs. The teasingly tender touch of his fingertips makes her whine, and she arches her back, almost at her breaking point.
“Bucky,” she breathes, her eyes fluttering at his gentle touch. “Please.”
It’s useless, she knows. She hasn’t given him what he wants yet.
“Hmm?” he asks, his voice sending shivers down her spine. “I need to hear your words, Princess.”
He knows exactly what he’s doing to her, but until she says what he needs to hear, he’s not going to do anything but this.
Slow teasing strokes of his fingers, tracing a path along her inner thighs, getting closer and closer to where she needs him most.
And just when he’s close enough to feel the heat of her, he pulls away, dragging the back of his fingers along her trembling thighs.
For a moment, all she can do is whimper, already on the verge of tears, the intensity of the moment catching up to her. She’s overwhelmed, but they both know she can do this.
She needs this.
With one more encouraging look from Bucky, and another teasing pass of his hands, she finally finds her voice.
“My body deserves respect.” She whispers the words, but they immediately make Bucky smile, and his chest swells with pride.
“Good girl,” he growls, placing his palms flat against her, sliding them slowly along her inner thighs. “Keep going.” She makes a soft noise of appreciation and nods her head, wanting this just as much as he does.
When she utters the next phrase, “my body deserves love” his hips shift subtly against her, his cock seeking friction.
He’s so proud of her, of the woman she is and everything she’s capable of. Seeing how much she wants to believe the things she’s saying makes him want to reward her.
“That’s right,” he tells her, his breath heavy against her neck. “You’re doing so good for me.” He inches his fingers ever closer to her pussy, and she can’t tear her eyes away from the mirror, her body growing still.
She doesn’t want to give him any reason to stop, and it makes the next words even easier to say.
“My body is a gift.” The last word comes out broken, a soft strangled noise, because Bucky’s fingers are finally touching her, spreading her obscenely, allowing him to see just how turned on she is for him.
Her hands grip his forearms, but she knows better than to try to control him. Not that she wants to, no matter how vulnerable she feels.
She barely processes what’s coming out of his mouth, but each word he says makes her that much more desperate for him, that much more desperate to make him proud.
“Look at that. Such a pretty pussy. Just dripping for me. Wanna make you come just like this.”
The pad of his finger teases over her exposed clit and her entire body shudders, her thighs almost closing in response. Bucky doesn’t let her move though, his own legs spread wide to keep her in place, reminding her who’s in charge.
She’s too far gone to immediately answer him, but he takes pity on her, sliding his finger along her soaked slit to tease at her entrance. “Do you want that, Princess? Do you wanna watch while I play with your pretty pussy?”
This time when his finger grazes over her clit, she moans and quickly nods, her body seeking out more of his touch. There are so many things she wants to say, to please him, to show him that she wants this just as much as he does. But, all that comes out is a soft, “yes, please.”
It’s more than enough for Bucky though, and he leans back just a bit more, giving them both the perfect view of her body.
At his instructions, her eyes stay on the mirror, watching his hand as he starts to bring her more pleasure. There’s no teasing this time, Bucky reminding her how good she did for him as his fingers start to move against her clit in firm circles.
It’s not long before she’s breathless, her arm curled up around his neck, holding onto him as he brings her closer to the edge. Her eyes keep threatening to close, the pleasure starting to overwhelm her, but Bucky won’t allow her to look away. Not yet.
“God, you drive me crazy, do you know that?” he asks her, his vibranium hand sliding underneath her shirt, lifting it until her bra is exposed, her nipples hard against the fabric. “Just look at you. You’re so fucking beautiful.”
His fingers quickly pull her bra cup down, letting her breast spill out, and his hand greedily grabs at her, his fingers seeking out her nipple. She immediately whines his name, her hips bucking against his touch, her orgasm quickly approaching.
She’s only vaguely aware of what he’s even saying to her, but each word adds to her pleasure, making her body shudder. Her gaze flickers from her own body to Bucky’s face, and even though she can already feel how turned on he is, what does her in is the the way he’s looking at her, like he can't get enough of her. Like she’s truly a work of art.
She barely has time to gasp out that she’s going to come before he growls her name, telling her to. Demanding it. “Yes. That’s it, Princess. Come for me, right now.”
His hand moves down to hold her waist, keeping her held against him as her body tenses, watching as the pleasure takes over. The pleasure he’s giving her. It’s enough to almost make him come with her.
After what feels like an eternity, she starts to slowly return to reality, Bucky’s hands now sliding along her soft skin as he moves her into a more comfortable position. He continues whispering soft words of praise, telling her how proud he is of her as she meets his gaze in the reflection of the mirror, a soft smile on her face.
Her shirt is still pulled up over her breasts, her skirt bunched up around her waist, and she’s suddenly struck by how hot she looks. Her body pulses at the image, Bucky’s strong arms wrapped around her, his hands touching every part of her he can reach.
It’s like she can see herself the way he does.
Bucky senses the shift in her and immediately grins, his eyes roaming over the vision of her, flushed and needy. “How about you try on some more of these new clothes?”
She immediately giggles as he helps her to her feet, and she makes a joke about how she might have to critique each one if this is the consequence.
“Just think what the reward will be if you compliment yourself instead,” he laughs, playfully smacking her ass.

As the car pulls up the driveway the three men sees the petite shaking form of Buckys new wife. Bucky jumps out before the Rolls Royce has even come to a stop, making a beeline straight towards her he has no idea how long she's been outside in the pouring rain. His heart beats loudly over the rumble of the thunder that just hit. Truthfully he has no idea how to approach her, his heart hurts just by seeing her standing there with her head bowed downwards, her hands clasped together and with only one backpack weighing heavily.
Saying her name he winces at the harsh tone, he honestly didn't mean to but he didn't think she would have heard him over the rain. When she makes no indication that she heard him, he gently clasps her elbow in his hand and gives a slight tug. Noticing the small nod he looks up at his home and tells her to follow.
It's only then he realises the rest of his family have arrived.
Once inside the mansion Bucky notices her standing in the far corner of the foyer, again with her head held down. Pulling Wanda closer to him he whispers in her ear asking her to run Theo a bath. Wanda nods whilst waving her friend off when he tries to thank her.
Wanda walks over to where she stands and asks her to follow. Both women climb the stairs silently, whilst everyone watches with curiosity and concern.
Entering one of the guest bedrooms that will be Theo's, speaking softly "my names Wanda, this is going to be your room and I'm pretty sure Bucky wouldn't care if you decorated it however you like. Anyways let's get you out of these drenched clothes, would you like a bath or a shower? Just to warm you up" Getting no response from the girl standing in front of her she asks again. Again no response. "Okay, I'm going to run you a nice hot bubbly bath"
Wanda heads into the bathroom to start the water running whilst wondering why the girl in the bedroom doesn't speak, the thought crosses her mind that maybe she can't but then she remembers that she said 'I do’ when tying herself and Bucky together in marriage. Maybe she's nervous about being in a strange place with strangers she's never met. That's probably it. Now the bathtub is filled and the spacious room has the calming scent of Lavender in the air.
Heading back into the bedroom she tells the other woman that the bath is ready and to follow her. Both stand in the middle of the room when Wanda tells her to take off the backpack all Theo does is nods, taking one of the straps her arm drops down, the pack is rather heavy. Wanda notices the girls' eyes not leaving the dark brown bag, making the redhead wonder what's inside. Setting it down on the floor, she tells Theo that it's okay for her to undress, telling her she'd just be outside and will come in after a few minutes.
The only response she receives is a small nod of the head.
A few minutes go by when Wanda knocks on the door, entering the bathroom she comes to a halt. Theo stands there naked, battered and bruised. Speechless to what she's seeing she manages to make her way over to the girl who stands there staring a hole in to the marble tiles. Wanda takes her hand into hers, giving the woman a small smile and leads her to the tub. "If it too hot just let me know okay, you can get in. If you want I'll sit right here" pointing to the chair with the flower design, she receives another nod.
Wanda's heart cracks when she sees the thin girl step in to the tub, seeing the way too many scars covering her form coming in all shapes and sizes, the redhead can't decide which ones are worse. The criss cross's on her back and the huge one on the side of her thigh, that one makes her flinch. Trying to guess how the one on her slim thigh got given to her makes her heart tug, trying to comprehend the pain this poor girl suffered boils her blood. Wanda's only known her for all of five minutes and already she wants to wrap this girl up in cotton wool and protect her from the worst things that happen in this world.
Sitting in somewhat uncomfortable silence Wanda looks at her friends’ new wife - a complete stranger to all - sitting there with her knees close to her chest as some form of protection and comfort she decides to break said silence. "It's okay to relax sweetie no one's going to hurt you I promise" Relaxing herself when she sees Theo's knees goes under the purple bubbles.
When a knock on the closed door suddenly breaks the silence, Wanda's heart nearly jumps out of her chest. Turning her attention back to Theo she reassures her that's she'll be right back, opening the door just a crack she sees the green eyes that belongs to Natasha.
"Has she spoken to you?" Nat asks as Wanda shuts the door behind her.
"No but Natty it's bad" shaking her head "you'll find out soon. I've gotta get back in there to her I'll be down soon I promise"
Confusion is written all over the other redheads face but with also a hint of concern "here's some clothes for her, I'm guessing her things will be brought here later" Nodding to each other they part ways.
After washing Theo's hair which she struggled to untangle the many knots, she helped the girl out of the tub. Once dried and wearing fresh clothes they head in to the bedroom, Wanda did ask her if she wanted food but all she got was a head shake signalling no. Pulling back the covers on top of the huge bed she sends Theo a smile. The redhead is surprised for the umpteenth time that day when Theo moves closer to the bed then gets down on the floor, before Wanda can react the girl crawls under the bed. Standing there dumbfounded for a few minutes by the actions she just witnessed, she gets down on her hands and knees laying down on her stomach she looks at Theo who's hugging her knees to her chest again. "Wh-what are you doing? You can sleep on the bed" still not receiving a verbal reply she gets a head shake again. "Okay, do you want a blanket and a pillow?" Again, a head shake is given to her "Are you absolutely sure? It can't be comfortable lying on the floor" This time Theo just nods. After some more questions and getting no verbal answers Wanda leaves the room with the light dimmed.
Standing just outside the door for what felt like an eternity Wanda tries to make sense of what had just transpired in the last hour. When her feet finally lead her down the stairs she walks straight into the office where she knows everyone is waiting. As she slips inside Bucky sits further up in his seat instantly not liking the haunted look on her face.
Taking over the seat that has now become available thanks to Sam moving, she grabs the drink out of Steve's hand, wincing at the taste of whiskey.
"She's riddled in scars Buck. Nasty ones. The ones on her thighs look like burn marks, her back looks like she's been whipped, she has a huge one on her thigh looks recent too. She's covered in bruises and open cuts" shaking her head as she visibly sees the damage when she closes her eyes "she's really skinny as well, can see her ribs clearly. She didn't say a single word, just nods or shakes her head. Submissive really. I washed her hair and it's knotted badly" Bucky just sits there wearing a blank expression, the whole room is silent as Wanda tells them what she saw "Oh and if you went into that room right now you won't find her in the bed but under it, she just crawled right under it, I told her she can sleep on the bed but she just shook her head no. I offered her a blanket and pillow but again she said no"
Bucky's heart breaks from what he's being told, confusion fills his head. For once in his life he doesn't know what to do. His new wife has obviously suffered abuse but from who? The information that she's sleeping on the floor and not in the bed confuses him even more. "Did she speak? Not even one word?"
"No. Nothing. She did however keep an eye on that bag of hers, oh fuck I'm sorry I left it in the bathroom"
"It's okay" dragging his hands down his face "I don't know what to do guys"
"Give her a few days to settle in, Wanda do you think she's comfortable around you?" When he receives a nod he smiles "okay so when her stuff comes Wanda you help her put her things away and try to get her to talk. Buck you’re going to have to approach her slowly man, hopefully she'll open up and tell you what happened to her then we'll go from there" Bucky has never been more grateful for Steve than he was in that moment.
They call it a night soon after.
Bucky heads up to bed but before he gets to his room he takes a look in Theo's. Wanda was right, she wasn't in the bed.
Tumblr media
As the morning sun rises Theo wakes, ready to perform her 'wife duties’. Tiptoeing down the grand staircase she finds the kitchen, making mental notes of where everything is she starts to prepare breakfast.
Not long after her arrival in the kitchen, Martha - Bucky's head maid - found her preparing breakfast.
The older woman was baffled by the scene in front of her. Making her presence known when she asked "Do you need any help Miss?" She stared at the younger woman who just shook her head no.
Martha had worked for George and Winnie since before Bucky was born and when Bucky got his own place she agreed with his parents that she'd now work for him. She loved him like he was her own, she was one of the few people that wasn't afraid of him. The woman truly didn't know what to do with herself as preparing breakfast was her job, but noticing the young girl waltz around the kitchen as if it was second nature, she busied herself with some cleaning.
A little while later Martha headed back into the kitchen to tell the girl that she would wake every one up. Receiving a nod in response she headed upstairs.
Waking Bucky up was easy, it was everyone else she had a hard time with. Especially Sam who always tried to pull her into his bed. As much as that young man annoyed her, she loved him like he was her son. As Bucky came out of his room Martha was waiting for him which never happened.
"James there's a young woman in the kitchen, I asked her if she needed help but she didn't say anything."
"Brown hair?" Watching her nod "that's my wife. Her names Theo, not really much of a talker".
"Wife? Why didn't you tell me?" Shocked and slightly upset that she didn't know that he was getting married.
"I-I didn't know until yesterday Momma. I'm sorry, and you know that I would have you at my wedding if I had known about it" sighing sadly as he thinks he's let her down.
"It's okay. Now come on and get food before Sam eats it all"
"Did he do that thing again?"
"Of course he did" Their laughing filled the air.
Tumblr media
"Thank you for breakfast but Theo you don't have to do that okay?" Noticing the flash of confusion "Why don't you sit down?"
Everyone watches her as she goes to sit down on the floor in the corner of the room.
Bucky jumps up, going over to her "Theo you can sit at the table" when he doesn't get a verbal response he feels sick to his stomach when he says "you can speak".
"Not allowed to" her voice is raspy with lack of use.
"What do you mean? Of course you're allowed to, you can't eat food on the floor" it's the first time hearing her voice other than her saying 'I do' and even though it's raspy he finds her voice to be heavenly.
"Only allowed scraps"
Wanting to her keep talking he asked "what happens if there's no scraps?"
"Don't eat"
"What about dinner?" Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion "Do you have dinner?" He explains.
"Only allowed scraps"
"Again what happens if there's none?"
"Don't eat"
"Doll what's the longest time you went without food?"
"Six days"
He hears his friends whisper 'oh my god' in the background. "Can I ask you something Theo?" Getting a nod in response "What's in your backpack?"
"My things"
"That can't be everything you have?"
"It is"
"Oh. Can I ask you something else? Who gave you those scars and bruises?"
Everyone waits for her voice to be heard again but all they get is Theo bowing her head. Realising he's overstepped he apologises.
No one was interested in eating after that.
Later that day when dinner gets served - which Bucky had to tell Theo that she wasn't the one who was supposed to cook it, leaving the poor girl utterly confused - he sees her going back to the corner to sit.
Grabbing his plate and a plate that he had made up for her, he goes over to sit down on the floor next to her.
Theo's face contorts in confusion at his actions, even more confused than before when he places her plate onto her lap.
"If you're going to eat on the floor than so am l" he smiles "it's okay to eat I promise"
She thinks it's a trick so when she picks up the knife and fork with trembling hands and sees a figure coming closer she freezes.
Wanda sits with her back up against the other wall, giving Bucky a smile. Turning her attention to Theo she asks "is it okay if I sit here with you two, Theo?"
Theo's eyes shift from the food sitting in front of her to Bucky who gives a gentle nod; she looks to Wanda and nods.
"Thank you" Wanda softly says smiling to the woman.
Bucky feels like he's accomplished something massive when he watches her eat. And when he hears the very soft moan of her enjoying the bite she has, he digs into his own dinner.

HAPPY BDAYYYY !!! coincidentally it is also my mom's bday today lol, here's a lil buckytony for u !!!
Tumblr media
which connects to my prompt: tony is used to feeling cold, he had to be (the cave was so cold in the death of the night) and he knows that bucky is, too, even if the man always seem to run hot due to the serum. well, it's the winter season, what better excuse does he have except that he needs a human blanket? basically tony holding hands, hugging, or cuddling bucky to fend off the cold !!
happy birthday again !!!
hello!!! i’m SO sorry this took practically half a year but i just want you to know that your art makes me so happy and seeing this in my inbox was one of the best gifts i could have asked for. bucky and tony are so fucking cute and i’m obsessed with bucky’s blush and tony’s eyelashes 🥰 i hope your mom also had a lovely time celebrating her birthday!!
anyway, without delaying this any further than i already have—
———
Bucky had never been able to feel anything with the heavy silver arm that was forced onto him, which made it useful as a shield as well as a blunt force weapon. It was perfect for the Winter Soldier, the unfeeling assassin whose sole existence was to comply orders and complete missions. Having it blown off may have been a shock at first, but it had quickly morphed into relief when Bucky had realized that losing the arm was the first real step towards finally, truly breaking free from the shackles of Hydra.
Since having his triggers removed and embarking on his slow journey towards recovery, Bucky has decided that he has no interest in fighting anymore, keen to stay home and monitor the feeds while the rest of the team is out being heroes. He’s happy to be retired, happy to uncover new things about himself as he learns how to bake croissants and build terrariums. It’s a kind of peace he never thought he’d be able to have when he was trapped for seventy years as a prisoner of war, and he wouldn’t trade it for anything.
So when he had been asked what he would like in a new prosthetic, Bucky had said, just a regular arm; no super strength, no nifty weapons hidden in the plates. Just a functional part of his body for him to get through his daily life.
Tony had gone above and beyond, presenting Bucky with a prosthetic that had far exceeded his expectations. Not only is the arm intuitive, with nanobots that shift like real muscle and fat as Bucky moves, but it is also regulated to match the rest of Bucky’s body in strength and temperature. If it had been painted a color to match Bucky’s skin, it would almost be indiscernible to a real arm.
Despite the prosthetic being made with the most advanced technology the world has to offer—despite all the cyborg jokes his friends like to tease him with—Bucky has never felt more human.
With the new arm, Tony hadn’t just given Bucky back a sense of normalcy. He’d also given Bucky a brighter future than he had ever dared to imagine.
He still remembers the day in the lab after they had run through their last series of tests with the new arm.
He had just put down the stress ball they used for the pressure test, still marveling at how he could feel the texture of the rubber, when Tony had spoken up.
“Okay. One last thing I’d like us to try. Hold your hand out?”
Bucky had done as he was asked, not quite sure what to expect, when Tony had reached out with his right hand and wound their fingers together. He hadn’t been able to hold back a gasp, staring at their joined hands as he felt the cold of Tony’s hand seeping through the warmth that he hadn’t realized was coming from his own arm. Then Tony had squeezed once, affectionately, stepping closer until they were only inches apart, and Bucky’s heart had stuttered in his chest as he glanced up and saw the way Tony had been smiling at him.
“How does this feel?” Tony had asked, red faintly dusting his cheeks in a way Bucky had been sure no one else had ever seen before.
Feeling whole and brave, and like the ice in his veins is finally starting to melt for the first time in decades, Bucky had gently squeezed back.
“Good. It feels nice. You feel nice.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. I like it.”
“Well, good. You’re warm, so I think I’ll be holding on to you for a while. You know, just to stave off the cold,” Tony had declared.
“Sure thing, doll.”
Tony is tactile. That had been the first thing that Bucky learned about Tony when the team had been pardoned, made their amends with each other, and gone back to New York.
His touches are gentle and reassuring, drawing smiles from whoever he has focused his attention on at the moment. Rhodes leans into the hand that Tony brushes against his back as he walks by, for a moment relying on his friend’s strength instead of his leg braces. Natalia is a constant presence by Tony’s side during movie nights, bumping her head against his hand like a cat just so he would play with her hair. Peter beams like he’s aced a test every time Tony squeezes his shoulder affectionately after helping with his physics homework. Steve rolls his eyes fondly whenever Tony pokes his abs teasingly after a workout, but always teases right back by lifting his shirt up to goad Tony into doing it again.
Being touched by Tony is like a drug, and Bucky has been addicted since the first time Tony held his hand. Which is just as well, because when Tony said he would be holding on for a while, he wasn’t kidding.
After that first time in the lab, Tony always, always holds Bucky close when they’re together.
He takes Bucky by the hand and drags him to dinner with the team, never loosening his grip even when Sam raises a pointed eyebrow at their joined hands. “For warmth,” Tony says, and when he takes his place at the table, he promptly kicks Steve out of his usual spot because he refuses to release their entwined fingers. Bucky just watches amusedly as Steve takes his old seat next to Rhodes and sits down next to Tony, only letting go so he can scoot closer and swing his arm across the back of Tony’s chair as they eat.
He drapes Bucky’s left arm over his shoulder when they’re out, snuggling close to his side as they take the long way walking home after dinner. “For warmth,” Tony says, even though he’s wrapped up in several layers of expensive wool and cashmere. Bucky just pulls him in tighter and steers him towards their favorite gelato bar for dessert, because even though Tony runs cold and always claims he doesn’t like sweets, Bucky knows he’d never say no to ice cream.
He sleeps on the right side of the bed so he can use Bucky’s arm as another pillow, despite knowing the hard planes of metal can’t possibly be comfortable for him. “For warmth,” Tony says as he presses a kiss to Bucky’s reconstructed shoulder and dozes off under their weighted blanket made of the fluffiest down feathers. Bucky just smiles indulgently and curls in closer, perfectly happy to tolerate overheating in his sleep if it means going to bed every night with his favorite person in the world.
Having Tony in his arms warms him from the inside out, like an endless summer after a lifetime spent lost in the cold.

The clink of the spoon against the teacup echoed in the room. Your father, Tom, stared down at the tea, trying to keep his composure, but his heart ached for you.
He looked up at you sitting across from him. You could see the worry in his eyes, yet he seemed more concerned about you thinking he needed support, when it was supposed to be the other way around.
“Eat the cookies. You need to eat. You’ve lost a lot of weight,” Tom said, pushing the plate of cookies closer to you. His voice was gentle but firm.
The cold plate touched your skin, jolting you back to reality. You couldn’t believe that you had once promised never to come back home. Your father looked so much older than the last time you saw him, seven years ago.
As you watched him, you could see the lines on his face, the graying hair, the tiredness in his eyes. He looked fragile, contrasting to the robust and indifferent man you remembered.
He used to be so distant and reserved, his eyes always seeming to look through you rather than at you. His mind was always elsewhere, consumed by his work. You remember feeling invisible as if you were never a priority in his life.
He doesn’t know that you were an outcast and bullied the whole time you grew up in this town. It was all because of his job and the house you lived in.
Flashback Starts
In this town, there was only one mortician—your dad. And the funeral home was connected to your house.
Kids your age made fun of you relentlessly. They called your father the angel of death and labeled your home as hell. The bullying started early and only intensified as you got older. By high school, it felt like there was no escape.
But then, a glimmer of hope arrived when a new kid from the city transferred to your school.
His name was Ransom Drysdale-Thrombey. He was sent to this small-town school because he was a troublemaker. The principal asked you to help Ransom, hoping you could help him.
At first, it was tough. Ransom was resistant, and his rough exterior matched the rumors about him. But you stayed patient and persistent.
Over time, Ransom began to open up to you. His academic performance started to improve, and slowly, a bond formed between you.
Because of Ransom’s improvement, you met his family for the first time. It turned out that Drysdale was a mighty name. His family owned a big bank.
This was the turning point. Ransom introduced you to his grandfather, Harlan Drysdale. “Grandpa, my friend here is a genius. She’s the one who solved the issues you’ve been stressing about. I just showed it to her to ask her opinion, and she solved it.”
Harlan, the patriarch of the company, exuded a charisma you had never seen before. He looked at you with a mix of curiosity and respect.
You felt nervous, your hands trembling slightly as you stood there. Harlan’s presence was intimidating, but there was a kindness in his eyes that put you at ease.
“Is that so?” Harlan said, a smile spreading across his face. “I’d like to hear more about this solution of yours.”
Ransom beamed with pride as he gestured for you to explain. You took a deep breath and started to talk about your idea, feeling a strange sense of confidence growing inside you. Harlan listened intently, nodding along, his expression thoughtful.
When you finished, Harlan leaned back in his chair, clearly impressed. “You have a remarkable mind,” he said. “Ransom is lucky to have you as a friend.”
For the first time in a long time, you felt seen and appreciated. You glanced at Ransom, who gave you an encouraging nod.
Meeting Harlan and the Drysdale family marked the beginning of a new chapter. You were no longer just the mortician’s kid. You were someone with potential, someone who could make a difference.
The years of bullying and isolation started to feel like a distant memory, replaced by a newfound sense of hope and possibility.
He looked at you and slowly nodded. “For a high school student to solve a credit issue is amazing. I’m glad my grandson found a hidden talent.”
Your heart felt warm. You had never received such a compliment in your life.
“You will be a valuable asset in the future. Dear, are you interested in working with me?” Harlan asked.
“Yes, sir!” you replied quickly.
This was your golden ticket to leaving this town, having a better life, and succeeding.
After graduating high school, you packed your bags, said goodbye to your dad, and jumped into Ransom's car. As the car started moving, you didn’t glance back even once.
You had made your decision to leave everything behind.
You received a scholarship for college from the Drysdale charity, supported by a glowing recommendation letter from Harlan himself. You studied hard, like a person possessed, determined to graduate quickly and start working at the Drysdale company.
You graduated in two years and fulfilled your promise to work with Harlan. You gave it your all, becoming a workaholic to prove yourself.
Your hard work paid off, and you made a name for yourself in the finance world. They called you the “female Midas” because every company's stock you bought saw its price soar.
Harlan was proud of you; you could see it in his eyes.
Then everything changed after Harlan died.
The company's business structure changed too, with Ransom in charge. You tried to talk to him, but he didn’t listen.
One day, the FBI raided your office and accused you of insider trading. You hadn’t done it, but the accusation hit hard. Even without proof, you lost friends, and your trading and financial licenses were revoked.
You called Ransom, but he didn’t pick up. You tried contacting the other Drysdales, but nobody wanted to help.
You had spent seven years celebrating Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas with them, but they still hadn’t accepted you.
You had poured your sweat, blood, and tears into this company, only to be thrown away. After everything, they still hadn’t accepted you. The way they made you feel like family, only to discard you, was a sick joke.
Even a wolf would accept a dog into its pack.
You sat alone in your empty apartment, your hands trembling with anger and betrayal. The silence was deafening, starkly contrasting to the lively gatherings you once shared with the Drysdales. The warmth you once felt from their acceptance had turned cold and hollow.
You looked at the framed photo on your desk, a picture of you and Harlan on the day you graduated. His proud smile felt like a distant memory, overshadowed by the harsh reality of your present.
You picked up your phone one last time, scrolling through the countless unanswered messages to Ransom and the Drysdales. Each one felt like a dagger, a reminder of the trust and loyalty you had given, only to be met with silence and abandonment.
You have lost everything. The court has taken your apartment, your car, and blocked your bank account until the investigation is done.
You feel ashamed and don’t have any close friends to turn to.
Your last hope is your hometown. With your small amount of cash, you pack your laptop and a few outfits and take the last train home.
When you call your dad, his voice sounds uncertain when he hears you’re coming home and ask if he can pick you up.
It’s late at night when you arrive. It’s just you and your dad. You’re grateful no one else is around to see you.
Tom looks nervous. He tries to ask you on the car ride home, “Did something happen?”
You close your eyes and lean your head against the window. “I’m tired. I’ll tell you tomorrow morning.”
“Ah. Right. You must be tired,” Tom says, his voice shaky.
The silence in the car is heavy, filled with unspoken words. Tom glances at you occasionally, his worry evident in the rearview mirror. You can feel the weight of his concern, but you can’t bring yourself to talk about it yet.
When you finally pull up to the house, it looks the same as when you left. The familiarity is both comforting and painful. Tom helps you with your bags, his hands trembling slightly.
You only brought one bag, but he wanted to carry it, as if carrying your burden. He could feel that you were going through something.
Inside, the house is quiet. You head straight to your old room, which hasn’t changed much. The sight of it brings a lump to your throat.
You drop your bags and sit on the edge of the bed, feeling exhausted and defeated.
Tom lingers in the doorway, unsure of what to do. “If you need anything, just let me know,” he says softly.
“Thanks, Dad,” you reply, managing a weak smile. He nods and gently closes the door, leaving you with your thoughts. The weight of your situation presses down on you, but at least here, in this small room, you feel a glimmer of safety.
Flashback End
*******
The next morning, you woke up with no desire to move on. But seeing your dad already waiting for you, you couldn’t make him wait for an answer.
So you told him about the struggle you're facing right now.
Tom wasn’t ready for this. He thought you returned because your heart was broken by Ransom or you missed home. Or, you missed him.
After hearing every word that came out of your mouth, he couldn’t believe it. His only daughter had been betrayed like this.
“I need to stay here for a while,” you said. You would stay until you heard from the court. You had sent them evidence proving your innocence.
"Why did you say that like you're asking for permission? This is your home," Tom replied. He didn’t care if you were a criminal or a murderer. If you needed a place to hide, he would provide it for you.
"Thanks, Dad," you said, feeling a weight lift off your shoulders.
Then, there was a knock on the door.
'Knock. Knock.'
You and Tom looked at the door. Only he stood up. It seemed like he was already expecting someone.
He opened the door. "You're here early," he said.
You sipped your tea, assuming the newcomer was just another guest of your dad's.
"Nothing ever goes wrong when you do things early," the voice said cheerfully and friendly.
You almost choked on your tea. The voice sounded all too familiar, and you prayed it wasn't who you thought it was.
"Thanks. I'll meet you at the morgue in 5 minutes," said Tom as he moved to close the door.
"Are you having a guest?" the person asked.
"Yeah, yeah," Tom replied, his voice a little tense.
"Why are you nervous? Do you have a special friend?" The teasing tone drew closer.
You closed your eyes and clenched your fists. You knew your dad, short and not as physically imposing, wouldn't be able to stop the tall, athletic man approaching.
"Y/N?" the voice said, confirming your worst fears.
You opened your eyes and saw the new guest. Locking gazes with him, you felt a surge of apprehension and dread. He was Bucky Barnes, the embodiment of your past torment.
You, the quiet, bookish nerd, and he, the charismatic, popular guy—Bucky represented everything you had once dreaded in high school. His group of friends constantly tormented you.
Crossing your arms tightly, you couldn't mask the edge in your voice. "What is he doing here?"
Tom's hesitant introduction only added fuel to the fire. "He's my apprentice," he said, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
"What does that mean?" you asked, your tone sharp.
Tom cleared his throat nervously. "Um, well... after I retire, I'll be passing the business on to Bucky."
You raised your eyebrows, not saying anything. Tom seemed nervous, perhaps worried that you were angry he hadn’t told you about this sooner.
Meanwhile, Bucky still looked stunned to see you standing there.
Leaning forward, you couldn't contain the resentment in your voice. "Him? Are you sure? He and his group made a mockery of this business every single day, taunting me whenever I set foot in school!"
The room fell silent, the tension thickening with each passing moment.
You had hoped to find refuge here, but now you were having second thoughts. The person who had bullied you was now working with your father and set to inherit the business. It was a bitter pill to swallow.

ANON FJSAOFJDKFJLAKJFDAF
i don't even dislike bucky as a character i'm just! so very uninterested in the romantic dynamic ppl paint between him & steve it truly inspires nothing within me.
(and! if you're looking to scratch that friends-to-lovers itch 616!stevetony is right! there! or if you're looking to scratch the friends-to-unwilling enemies-to-tentative allies-to-friends-to-lovers itch, again!!! 616!stevetony is serving it at the all-you-can-eat ship dynamic buffet!)
the thing that really soured me on the ship was the fans and i hate to say that bc everyone should get to enjoy what they enjoy! but yeah there's nothing groundbreaking or progressive about a story with two men sharing a meaningful friendship that can be read as having homoerotic subtext.
