You’re killing me - Buck having to explain to Rosie and Crosby that Bucky didn’t make the breakout because Cass got shot!!! Ugh how does Buck not break down crying when he thinks of his two best friends still behind enemy lines while he’s safe and sound? I just want to wrap them all up in hugs!! Ugh, my heart is sad and I’ve got tears streaming down my face.

Should I blurb it for the pain?

"So, Bucky didn't make the breakout with you, huh?" Crosby asked softly as he watched Major Cleven sort through the trunk.

"No. No, he, uh...." Gale trailed off as he heard the sound of the gun and the way Cass' breath caught in her throat. The way John had whimpered her name like a wounded animal. The way Gale's last image of his best friend was him weeping over the body of the woman he loved. "He had to stay behind with the men. And Captain Egan." Rosie and Crosby did nothing to hide their shock.

"Cass? She...she didn't...she what? On purpose?" Harry stuttered out.

"Something about Bucky not being allowed to die without her. You know those two."

"They were okay when you made it out?" Buck looked at the deuce in his hands. He wished Bucky could have taken a third corner for himself. For his wife. "Major Egan would have forced the Captain to go with you unless..." Harry felt a lump form in his throat at the thought. In reality, the only way Cass wouldn't have made it out is if she physically couldn't. Any other situation and John would have made sure of it.

"Bucky'll make sure she pulls through. They are the two most stubborn people any of us know. You think anything is going to keep them away from that future he was always droning about?"

They both saw the way Gale's smile didn't reach his eyes. The way he looked like he had seen the end of the great love story of Cassandra Ann Cooper and John Clarence Egan. The epic that had inspired all three of them to pull through. Pull through in the hopes they might find the same someday.

If death could lay a finger on a love like that...what hope was there for the rest of them?

Y’all know I’m all about sambucky being cat dads™️ but them being dog dads is just as good actually. It’s especially hilarious because they’re so obviously cat people and absolutely no one expects them to have a dog.

But one time after a mission they’re walking and they hear this whining and they find a little puppy hiding behind a dumpster and it’s cold and dark and they’re like ‘well we can’t just leave him here!’, so Bucky opens his jacket and carry the puppy there and they buy him food and they take him home all while being ‘we’re not keeping him! just until we find him a home! we’re not even gonna name him!’

But when one of them is having a nightmare, he sneaks into the room and licks their face until they wake up. He loves cuddling Bucky while he reads and staying as close as possible to Sam as he works on Redwing, or when he’s cooking. He loves Cass and AJ so much and is very protective of them. Sarah pretends so hard she disapproves but she absolutely melts at the puppy’s big brown eyes and ends up cuddling him all day and sneaking him all the treats.

So, yeah. They keep the dog. Probably end up naming him Gandalf or something. (Bucky’s fault. He called him that as a joke and now he only answers to it. And maybe Goodest Boy.)

anyways it's stucky time again because i said so

thinkin about steve purposely sneaking up and jumping on bucky post ws, like just full on WHALING on him because he can't hurt bucky and bucky's so sick of everyone treating him like he's broken glass and can't be trusted around any sort of violence, and once steve catches on, he's like. "well. don't mind if i do"

and steve's the only one who can do it. nat tried once and nearly got knifed in the side for her troubles. when steve literally jumps out the window on to bucky, bucky just rolls his eyes and lets himself get tackled. anyways

OKAY i am such a strong supporter of bucky and steve being the only ones Allowed^tm to do things to each other like that. like on the flip side, bucky is the only one who is allowed to poke around steve and knows all his tickle spots. anyone else, steve shuts down immediately, but bucky is so goddamn touchy with him and he just thrives under the attention and the close comfort.

I feel like Spook and Bucky would get into a disagreement once Buck goes down, like I could see her seeking him out when he’s sitting in the plane and her not accepting him answer that he’s fine and “doesn’t feel a thing”

Cass is with John in London when he hears about Buck going down. (random side note but do they elope in England before or after this news? There are plusses and minuses to both we can discuss)

She knows instantly he's going to fly that next mission no matter what. Their little bubble has been broken. And in her heart the entire London trip has felt like a long goodbye. And she wants to celebrate their little wedding and exist in that feeling that she will go back to SC with John on her arm and he will protect her from Landry but all those fears come rushing back.

She gives him space to think and breathe and finds him in the plane with the flask. She climbs in and sits next to him in silence for a little while.

"I'm fine. You didn't need to come find me. Should eat some dinner or something."

"Eat dinner alone? Not a good way to start our marriage." And she smiles but he doesn't even look at her. "John-"

"I said I'm fine, Cass." And she wants to say she knows he isn't and that it's okay to feel but she knows the words would be hollow because she has done the exact same thing.

"Take it from a spook. Numbing yourself only dulls it for a little while."

"Only way for me to fix it is to go up there and make them pay." Cass intertwines her fingers with his.

"And I'll always support you and whatever choice you make. As long as you allow yourself to feel this pain and know it's not going to echo in your chest like that forever."

"I love you, Cass. You'll know that even when I'm up there?"

Even if I don't make it back down here?

Summary: Much to Cass and AJ’s (and of course, Bucky’s) delight, Sarah is dolled-up for a special event she and Bucky are attending. Before they leave home, he grabs Cass’s camera to get some pictures. Hopefully, one will end up in his wallet. Yes, he has a cellphone with a camera and a Camera Roll, but he’s admittedly old-fashioned enough to want to carry a photograph of his intanda in his wallet.

Sarah reminds the boys of the Dreamgirls, from one of their mom’s favorite movies.

Shenanigans ensue, and they learn something new about Bucky and Dora Milaje General Okoye.

“Are you done messing around with Cass’ camera? We still have to drop the boys off at Aisha’s.”

“This is the last one, nandi. I swear.”

“Baby, we’re going to be late, and you know how Sam gets with his ‘you’re either early, or—“

“—you’re late!!” Bucky, Cass and AJ all finish the sentence in unison, each in their own imitation of Sam.

“Stop playin’,” Sarah laughs, “and take the picture before you drop the camera!”

“Can’t help it. You’re stunning. ‘m I right, fellas?”

“Yeah! You’re stunning, Mama!” Cass declares, pushing his glasses up and grinning.

“Yeah! You look like one of the Dreamgirls in that movie you watch and lip sync all the songs with!” AJ nods in agreement with his big brother.

Bucky looks at Sarah, eyebrows raised, and a delighted grin spreads across his face because he’s watched Lip Sync Battle with Sarah.

“Really! Lip sync, you say. All the songs?”

“ALL of them,” Cass confirms. “You should see her, Uncle Bucky. Especially that one song where one of the Dreamgirls gets fired by her boyfriend and she says—“

“AAAAAAAAND I am telling you…” both boys strike dramatic poses, Cass clutching his chest, AJ throwing his head back, closing his eyes and joining in. “I’m not going!!”

Bucky joins in with them on “No-no-no no way!”

“Uncle Bucky! You know this song?” AJ asks, eyes wide with amazement.

“Well, don’t tell her I said anything, but, General Okoye absolutely loves Dreamgirls. She played the Broadway cast version on the way to and from a mission with the Dora.”

“Alright you guys. Uncle Bucky’ll tell you about General Okoye and the Dreamgirls later. Grab your backpacks and let’s go, or we won’t just be late. We’ll be—“

“Late-late. Got it, sweetness. But, wait right there. Hold on. Don’t move. Just one more, Dream Girl.”
