Thank you so much @curiouselleth!

I wanted to include all the flags because Finrod deserves it, plus they're my flags as well. But it was a challenge to come up with a palette that would make it work. I chose to use the separate aro and ace flags rather than the aroace one, which I did for Elladan and Elrohir previously, because they just mesh better with the genderqueer colours.

Fëanor : I've been waiting for this moment since Maitamo was in diapers!

Fëanor : Findekáno is an eight. He was the first one and I really came to see the fact that he and Maitamo would get married when they had the chance. He is quite nice though because of him I have to see Ñolofinwë's face on weekends at the family dinner. Other than that, it's stranger not to see him at home, I got used to having him there, he's good company.

Fëanor : the first time I met Makalaurë's wife she punched me in the jaw. She is sassy and not afraid to express her displeasure with anyone plus Dae is really very talented, she is also the only person who can manage to shut Káno up, she sings too well, a ten, she is my favorite.

Fëanor : Tyelko was always a free fëa, that's why I didn't expect him to settle down, not even with Irissë and even less with Oromë. That's why Dior was a strange surprise, I don't really know the history of those two and I haven't dealt much with him, he's usually serious, and I don't blame him for that. A seven.

Fëanor : Turukáno reminds me too much of Ñolofinwë; he openly hates me and I respect him for that; but he also makes Moryo smile more often than usual, his mood changes when he's around his husband. Besides they have been together for too long, they never told anyone but Aracáno and I suspected it. He is an eight.

Fëanor : I'm not sure if Findaráto counts, he and Curufinwë have been divorced for a long time, however they also kiss a closet when they think no one sees them. He and Curufin made me grandfather, although at the time there was yelling and a couple of broken things, he took responsibility, and like Findekáno his company is pleasant. He's a solid nine, plus Arafinwë is easier to stand than Ñolo.

Fëanor : Pityo has no husband, wife or partner; unless it's secret, I can't score this time.

Fëanor : Telvo on the other hand, well. He leaves Artaresto and Arakáno, the son, I mean. I must say that the three of them are really adorable, if somewhat disastrous, you don't want to know what an argument between them is. Frankly they are the healthiest polyamory I've seen in a long time. Both Arteresto and Arakáno are a nine.

Plus : Telperinquar's husband.

Fëanor : Annatar is an annoying little shit, I am offended that you think I accept him, if it were not for Tyelpe I would throw him into the void with his ex-husband.

Notes :

Daeron is trans, she is an elleth. When he and Maglor met, the son of Fëanor fell in love with her, he proposed to her a few days after they met for the first time. A hundred years pass before she accepts him, they marry with only trees as a witness, they drifted apart after Doriath.

She was upset for a long time, with her husband and her brothers-in-law.

They meet in Imladris, Elrond is the one who brings them together (he locks them in a room until they talk) Maglor apologizes and she accepts them even though she knows it will take time to heal. Finally, they sail to Valinor accompanying Elladan and Elrohir. Regarding her name, he doesn't really mind Daeron. But her family in-laws call her Dae, Maglor nicknamed her that when he met her, this with her permission.

Amrod has no interest in anyone, he is very tired of everyone.

Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli propaganda: i likea them a lot :) • three dudes going on a road trip i hope nothing bond making happens • they can all braid each others hair • i don't know what the actual shipname is but gigolaron sounds funny youve opened my eyes youre so so so right. theyre just sooooooo. THEY ARE SO QPR FOR REALSIES. legolas and gimli devoted their whole lives to one another and legolas took gimli to essentially elf heaven with him. legolas and aragorn were amazing friends and i think they kissed. the three hunters are so qpr coded to me. they care so much for one another. i have not watched lotr in too long i should rewatch it again but Trust Me Bro theyre SO in love for realsies i got told to vote this by one of the mods. also aragorngimlilegolas resembles my qpr thank you tolkien for making these bitches sooo qpr roadtrip material

Gil Galad, Elrond, and Celebrian propagada: theyre soooo. the high king and his herald, facing unimaginable enemies that have killed all of their families. theyre both so trans also. they can only try to support each other even though the work keeps piling on and people keep dying and all they can do is try to live for each other. elrond has pledged his life to gilgalad and he will always be loyal. gilgalad would die for elrond but he has too many responsibilities and it breaks his heart that he cant say it back. when he does die it is for the world and for love and for elrond. to make a safe world for everyone. when they reunite in valinor they will have changed and learned so much but will still be there for each other, even though they are no longer king and herald.a king and a herald and their best friend. one has pledged their life to the people, the other to him, and the last is just trying to support them. in the midst of so much fear and destruction and uncertainty they stick together and support each other. gil galad dies before them and his loss will stay with them forever. celebrian has to sail to valinor and she must leave behind one for the other. but when elrond sails they will finally all be reunited. gil galad will never meet arwen but she grew up hearing stories about her second father, and strives to be as fair and just a ruler as he. elrohir and elladan are grown by the time they sail but they have until the end of days to make up for lost time. they get a happy ending, even through so much pain and strife. gil galad and celebrian know about elros and his decision to become mortal and how elrond knows it was the right choice for him but has a broken heart anyways. they knew but they didn't realize it would happen to them too. but they love each other and their children and they just want whats best for them. and they take solace in each other, they who still remain even through death. and they hope that when the dagor dagorath comes they can finally see all of their loved ones return from the great adventure of man and fight alongside each other, for even the destruction and renewal of arda cannot mar the happiness at being all together once more.

Aragorn supposed they thought they were clever.

He knew full well that the only reason Legolas and Gimli would spend long hours talking near the fire was because they believed him to be asleep.

If there was one thing Aragorn had learned while on their long road, it was how flirtatious you could make hacking spiders apart sound.

Ordinarily, Aragorn would smile in the dark and fall asleep to the sounds of his companions discussing the best use of certain herbs, or perhaps exchanging childhood misadventures.

But tonight Aragorn laid on his bedroll listening intently.

“It symbolizes that I am neither male nor female,” Gimli told Legolas, evidently showing him the braids adorning his beard—and Aragorn wondered if Legolas understood what it meant, to be shown a dwarf’s beard, but it did not seem to matter as Gimli’s words nestled between Aragorn’s ears.

I am neither male nor female.

“Oh,” Legolas murmured. “Yes, the Silvan folk have something similar. If a wood-elf gathers their hair behind their ears with certain braids, you can know that you must look past their appearance for their gender.”

Gimli snorted. “Imagine assuming one’s gender based on their appearance.”

Legolas let out what might have been a sad sigh. “Alas, my friend, we are not all like dwarves.”

The fire crackled and Gimli said, “Is that what your braids signal? I must confess to not having thought much of them.” “Yes,” Legolas said, voice almost lost in the sounds of the fire dying. “I do not truly hold to one or the other of the Men’s sexes, but have never really found the proper words to describe it in my own tongue. But I still wear the braids, though it is mostly to honour my mother’s heritage. It does not matter much to me what gender others assign me.” There was silence, and Aragorn turned what he’d just heard over in his head. He had known that some elves were neither male nor female, but had thought it a biological occurrence, like what sometimes happened in Men. But his companions’ words made Aragorn wonder if, perhaps, one’s gender was not determined by their genitalia. Legolas let out a soft laugh and Aragorn returned to the present with a bump. “So we truly are not that different after all! But you must tell me, Gimli—do you not wish me to use male pronouns when referring to you, friend?” Aragorn had not even considered that, but he still listened, fascinated, as Gimli hummed and replied, “When we are among friends, aye, I would rather be called ‘they’ than ‘he’. But you know how Men are.” “Aye,” Legolas said thoughtfully. “I do not think Aragorn would hold with the prejudices of Men. He was raised in Rivendell with the elves there, and he may have been living when the twins asked for their names to be changed, though I am not sure about when that was.” “Aye, and elves never hold prejudices,” Gimli said, but there was no heat in his—their?—voice, and Legolas laughed again. “And certainly there are none among the dwarves,” he teased. Legolas paused, then added, “But Estel—why so quiet?” Aragorn flinched and his throat went dry. “Forgive me, friends,” he croaked. “I did not mean to over hear.” “No, you didn’t,” Gimli agreed. “And I trust you, Aragorn, but I must ask—does it trouble you, knowing we are not male after all?” “No,” Aragorn replied, and it was the truth. He paused. “If I may—how do you know?” He sat up and watched his companions glance at each other—a natural reflex neither of them seemed to notice.

Legolas shrugged. “It was only after I became friends with someone like me that I realized that she and I were not so very different. Before I had not realized I was different from anyone else.”

“Dwarrow learn from a young age that there are not simply two genders, or even sexes,” Gimli added. They shrugged. “I suppose I just always knew.”

Legolas nodded. “Like Tauriel,” he said. “She always knew.”

“Thank you for telling me, my friends,” Aragorn said. He took a fortifying breath and glanced between them. “I—I had not thought.” His words stuck in his throat. “I had not thought there were others like me.”

The likelihood of having fraternal twins is partially genetic whereas the likelihood of having identical twins is largely not. This makes me think that all the El- twins are actually fraternal, not identical as they’re commonly portrayed. Furthermore since heritable twinning is usually controlled and passed down maternally and it crops up in the family tree first with Eluréd and Elurín, I suspect that it’s Nimloth’s family that contributed the twin gene.

#‘but wait’ you might say ‘if it’s maternally inherited how do we end up with elladan and elrohir?’#great question the answer is that Elrond is trans #also since the twin gene is so ridiculously strong with them #there’s a very high chance that Arwen has twins #possibly more than one set

lmao I said what I said but I did also hit return of the king in my reading last night and immediately start panicking

but! I woke up this morning and started writing and I’m 2000 words in! based on two realizations!

1) there’s at least one character in Gondor that I REALLY want to write as trans and it’s gonna be a while before I get there but thinking about it has me fired up 2) I have been waiting my entire life for someone to flesh out Elladan and Elrohir and give them more to do and no one has (in a fic that I’ve seen/wanted to read) so once again I guess it’s gonna fuckin be me

also at least one person has already expressed hope that my two dumbasses will get alone time in the Rohan victory party, which...is not in the book.

(they go back to Helm’s Deep before Edoras, and on the way Pippin looks into the Palantir--instead of after the party at Edoras--which draws down a Nazgul, and the attention of Sauron, which means everybody has to hustle off to the next thing aka the defense of Minas Tirith very quickly and they don’t have time to party. there’s a very quick cup of parting between Aragorn and Eowyn but that’s it)

sooo I’m maybe hoping the appearance of characters cut from the movie will make up for no drinking game. except that I have very little to go on and now I have to invent characterization ahahaha I am excited but in way over my head and did this to myself. that should actually be the title of this fic. I Did This To Myself. the series.
