INBOX IS OPEN FOR IMAGINES AND DRABBLES
Alright I know that this essentially amounts to admiting that I read an absurd amount of “The Hobbit” fan fiction on main, but......... this NEEDS TO BE SAID.
When your “everybody lives nobody dies” special cathartic Fix it fic has the plot point that “Bifur’s Axe fell out during the battle, and! oh my! What a pleasant surprise he is now fully neurotypical and can use westeron again perfectly and doesn’t have to use sign language anymore! Wow what a relief! Just like you had to fix the tragic character deaths you also had to make sure to fix his disability to give him a happy ending.” THAT’S ABLEIST AS FUCK.
I’m not tryna say that it’s malicious bc I know that it comes from a place of caring for the character and wanting to fix something that ails him, BUT that’s the issue. Feeling like he has to be fixed, and isn’t still whole or capable of a happy ending while he’s disabled. It especially bothers me in terms of it happening to Bifur, because he is actually kick ass representation and the movie (to the best of my memory and keeping in mind that most of the Non-Durin dwarves where somewhat underrepresented in terms of story and characterization) does one of the best handlings of a disabled character (in a movie not expressly about disability) that I’ve seen. Yes it’s treated as foreign, but in the same way that all of the dwarve’s idiosyncrasies are, it’s not made a bigger deal then any of the other new things Bilbo is seeing. He’s a character treated with respect. And he’s not treated like a tragic pitiable wretch either. There are kinda jokes about his spaceyness and ya know being a bit different, but in a way that’s what’s so novel, it’s not ignored, or tiptoed around. It’s acknowledged and they’re able to laugh abt it in a way that shows it’s normal and not seen as something to be pitied for. His capability is never questioned because of his condition, and well the bottom line, is just that he’s treated normally like every other member of the company, while at the same time having a fully acknowledged and not played down disability.
Quotes from Tolkien’s On Fairy-stories — part 7
“To be dissolved, or to be degraded, is the likely fate of Fantasy when a dramatist tries to use it, even such a dramatist as Shakespeare. Macbeth is indeed a work by a playwright who ought, at least on this occasion, to have written a story, if he had the skill or patience for that art.”
So many OPINIONS. Tolkien just really did not like Macbeth, OK? Oh, well, his salt gave us ents. 🤷♀️
I’m just mad twink Sauron is probably not gonna happen in the Amazon series, which is against how Sauron was described in the books as hating mortality and mortal affairs. Many Maia (like Gandalf)took on more aged appearances, but with Sauron I don’t think he would allow himself to age, as he genuinely hates and looks down on all aspects of mortality. He views himself as superior to humanity and views it as below him, plus he needed to appear elf like to gain the respect of the elves, who were wary of men and thought negatively about mortality and adding on the fact he himself hates mortality and the way he is described as (specifically the words Tolkien used, such as fair. It isn’t supposed to mean beautiful, as much as it means a kind of beauty. An almost new and ageless and fresh kind of appearance.) .....well he just seem like an anti-human. Super otherworldly and ethereal/in-human to the point it hurts. He is canonically described as intensely one way, fair and beautiful able to trick all but the most wary. Or terrible and evil like a void of evil. I guess I just am mad we don’t get the very canonical twink Sauron...... I mean it’s more supported in the canon than most! You just have to read the Silmarillion a lot. It feels like it’s hard to come by descriptions of his appearance, but nope. In the beginning of the description of the third age it appears. I just am sad, I hope twink Sauron will forever live on at least on tumblr, cause it seems both 100% the most canonical way to describe his appearance in common words and because I don’t know what I’d do with out twink Sauron cause to be honest that’s how I realized my gender and sexuality.

Gimli: You’re pretty dumb.
Gimli: Why are you thanking me? I just insulted you.
Legolas: All I heard was “You’re pretty.” I’m focusing on the positives in life.

🌺 🌸 🌼 human!Baylee!!
🌺 What does your OC do to calm down when they’re scared or after a nightmare? Do they have any special comfort items or need to be reassured by a specific person? How do they handle this if they’re alone?
She does one of two things: If it’s too early to go to the inn’s kitchen, then she lays in bed and tries to think of something else. But if it’s an acceptable time to go get the kitchen started up for the day, she goes and does that.
Usually, while her nightmares are horrible, she doesn’t need any comfort items or a person. However, sometimes, the nightmares get so bad, she runs to Will’s (her younger twin brother) room and he distracts her with tired, half-assed jokes.
Most of the time, though, she is alone, since she doesn’t like ‘bothering’ people when it comes to her nightmares. As such, please refer to the first part of this answer blurb :3
🌸 What are some of their favourite things and why? List as many as you can think of!
Dwarf Sunflowers, daisies, bluebells, the smell of cherry tobacco, lemons, lemon flavored things, pressed flowers, warm+spiced cider, hugs and kisses from Bofur, bear hugs from Lovisa, making people smile....there are too many things to list!
🌼 Who are this characters friends and found family? How did they meet, how long have they been friends for, could they ever be something more than just friends? What do they look for in a friend or a romantic partner?
I wouldn’t necessarily say Baylee has ‘found’ family, but once the dwarves realize that she and Bofur are in love, she essentially becomes an honorary dwarf (it helps that she and dwalin are the same height!). She has plenty of human friends as well, including the majority of the Tankard’s staff and some folks down in Laketown~ For a romantic partner, she looks for someone who can make her laugh, who’s sweet and caring, and who’s a good snuggler. Being attractive is just a bonus for her (a major bonus in Bofur’s case, as she finds him to be one of the handsomest blokes she’s ever seen!)
forever crying about Théodred and Fingon parallels

Quotes from Tolkien’s On Fairy-stories — part 6
“In human art Fantasy is a thing best left to words, to true literature. In painting, for instance, the visible presentation of the fantastic image is technically too easy; the hand tends to outrun the mind, even to overthrow it. [...] But Drama is naturally hostile to Fantasy. Fantasy, even of the simplest kind, hardly ever succeeds in Drama, when that is presented as it should be, visibly and audibly acted. Fantastic forms are not to be counterfeited.”
(Tolkien has OPINIONS, OK?)

“That entire speech that Sean had to deliver at the Council of Elrond was written the night before. It’s long, and we gave it to Sean in the morning he arrived,” Jackson explained. - “What Sean did, which I thought was very clever, is he got a printout of the speech taped to his knee. If you watch the scene now you’ll see every time that Sean has to check his script.”

The only Tolkien media adaptation I want is a 300-episode anime based on the Silmarillion not only because they will make everyone drop dead gorgeous with the flowing hair they righteously deserve but also because they can make the Elves naruto run
