“Second choice”

I have been second choice my whole life,

A constant struggle, a never-ending strife.

Always an option, never a priority,

A feeling of neglect, of ambiguity.

I wonder how it would feel to be first,

To be the one that they choose, not coerced.

To be the center of their world, their heart,

To be loved and cherished, from the very start.

But maybe being second choice is a gift,

For it helps us to see, to sift,

Through the ones who truly care,

And those who only want to share.

So let us embrace our place in life,

And let our hearts be free from strife.

For we are worthy, no matter what they say,

And we will find our way, come what may.

Grace In The Terror

Cresting, falling

fishing out meanings and

twisting these thoughts into

some formula or another -

first and foremost

these feelings need to be aired,

need to scare away the death

so wonders and hope

can re-emerge, can

dangle new love from a pedestal

and dream up ways

to find vestigial glory

in a mirror and a mind,

a life to live and time enough

to give us the patina

we’ve dreamed up.

Speak what is on your heart and mind. Don't be afraid to let your guard down or be vulnerable. Yet, also remember to protect yours and other's hearts and minds in the process. Don't go damaging or corrupting beautiful spirits and pure souls for no vaild reason. They don't deserve your trauma and you didn't deserve your trauma either. So, be mindful of what you're doing and who you're choosing to be. If you know better, you'll do better. Well, you know better. So, do better!

You think you can simplify everything using metaphors and analogies, communication tells you that it is possible to do so and that's when language as much as it makes you free to do so, it limits. Just when you think those raheem ke dohe are accurate analogies for things in life, you limit yourself to think that's the course things will take. Just because some analogy fits perfectly in your condition doesn't limit it to its course too?

Surround by people,

But still alone.

Surrounded by all this comfort,

But still agonising inside.

Surround by my friends,

But still a hermit.

But still comfortable in dejection.

Surround by beautiful minds,

But still heart want attention.

Surround by wonderful moments,

The teacup is half full. I’ve learned so much from just a day and a half at the San Francisco Writer’s Conference/Poetry Summit. I haven’t stopped writing since I got here, and that’s never happened to me. Since 2017 I’ve been dealing with anxiety, blow-ups, meltdowns, multiple surgeries, my brother losing his mind, becoming his legal guardian to protect and defend him in his vulnerability, and my sister losing her battle with cancer.
