Leaving aside the question of people reading your earlier content and making fun of it-- I got uneasy when the LJ servers were first moved to Russia. Shortly thereafter I downloaded all my content so it could be moved to a Dreamwidth account (more archival than anything else)... then deleted all the posts but one on the LJ account.

For those of you with old LJ accounts who've been thinking about this: the above article will talk you through the process of migrating your posts to a WordPress blog.

Opt out of AI Training on Wordpress

Don't know if this is a new setting or if I just missed it before. On your Wordpress account, go to Settings - Privacy and enable this option. No idea if this will be honored, but it's theoretical protection from this recent news.

It doesn't seem like Tumblr has added anything new to their privacy as of posting this. Keep your eyes out in case it's quietly rolled out.

According to this article, they're discussing an opt-out model of harvesting data, which is definitively worse than an opt-in model (because a lot of people are not going to go through the logistical hurdles to avoid their stuff getting stolen) and very much a bandaid on a open wound.

Needless to say, everyone should be screaming about this to @staff because the more friction the better, and backing everything up if they need to shut shit down rather than have their work be "legally" stolen by a bunch of Silicon Valley vultures who are all going to lose their shirts in a couple years.

Not exactly sure what Plan B I'm going to go with yet, but needless to say my interest in getting an independently hosted wordpress.org blog (because that's distinct from wordpress.com) and/or checking out Squarespace or the like has just gone way up.

What do I do with my grief?

I know not how to handle my grief.

Where to put it, how to tame its insurmountable spirit.

How to sing it lullabies for my voice always crackles up.

How to call out its name without fearing the worst.

What to say to it when it comes running to me like a child.

What to whisper in its ears so as to soothe its wild nerves.

I know I can very well discard it, get rid of it forever, but if that would have been possible, i would not be writing this poem today titled, "what do I do with my grief"

I know not how it's so capable of being so alive when I, the harbourer, has died so many times.

Isn't this grief that I carry in my belly, my child?

If that's the case, it should have died long time ago.

But here it is, chuckling and stretching its limbs, looking at me with its endearing eyes, waiting to be picked up with utmost affection.
