Hades is known as the god of the underworld, not the god of death, but the god that resides over the dead. He relies on himself, as do his variants and sons - who can be spotted quite easily. With their grumpy or 'do not approach me' expression. They're intimidating men, who will do whatever it takes to reach the goal they have put out for themselves. That doesn't mean they are without heart. No. They have big hearts but for some reason, it's always a shock when people see them being kind.

Annabeth, and others, often treat Percy as if he’s ridiculous or obtuse for his reactions to the demigod world, when in reality he’s a (relatively) well adjusted kid who was raised by a loving parent. His actions make sense based on his upbringing

- parents arent supposed to be neglectful

- parents are supposed to be easily attainable, loving, and present in a child’s life

- if you’re in trouble, you should call for help, there isn’t shame in admitting you’re in over your head, you’re twelve

- you shouldn’t have to jump through life endangering hoops to get your parent’s attention

Annabeth acts like he’s ridiculous, but he’s right. Annabeth knows how the Greek world works, but Percy knows how the real world is supposed to work. & rightfully calls out the BS. But it’s hard for most demigods to agree because what kid wants to admit the way their parents treat them is awful? That their actions are those of aloof, negligent, even narcisstic people who are unwilling or incapable of giving the proper love and support a child needs. That even if their godly parent does love them, it’s a pathetic, horrible, attempt at love you’re better off without.

Not to get pedantic (oh who am i kidding that’s most of this blog) but I am genuinely fascinated by the potential applications of the established canon in HoO and TOA that the gods canonically have both historic and regional forms, and can appear as specific versions of those forms and have kids of those specific forms, which influence what powers the kid has/what pantheon they fall under/etc etc (and also the implication that demigods can be born under multiple forms of a singular deity). This is somewhat backed up even earlier in the first series when we’re told that Percy has earthquake powers because of his father being Poseidon “The Earthshaker” (which is Mycenaean Poseidon) - which could also tie into why Percy generally takes leadership roles, is hopping in and out of the Underworld a lot, and is apparently particularly powerful for even just a Big 3 kid, since all that would line up with Mycenaean Poseidon being generally put at the head of the pantheon and also being a chthonic deity.

Now this gets really interesting when we start looking at deities being combined and conflated, because a.) the Romans weren’t the only ones doing that and b.) the Romans had their own gods originally, they didn’t just take the Greek ones and slap a new name on them. They merged a lot with their own preexisting deities alongside adopting worship of deities from other cultures as the Romans spread (and the Greeks also did this), and c.) the ancient Greeks and Romans did exist at the same time.

Like, we know in terms of the Greeks and Romans that if their godly parents are “equivalent” then their demigod children are siblings, just like if Greek demigods have the “same” godly parent then they are also siblings. However, very few Greco-Roman gods are one-to-one, and a lot are like three gods in a trench coat, and then if you want to get into historical forms then you can start running into weird things like “Well, if you go back far enough, these two Greek gods may have originated from the same thing-” and also if we’re talking historical forms, again, the Greeks and Romans existed at the same time! Which means there would be historic forms of godly parents that are both Greek and Roman! So like, where do we go from there? Would Hazel be equally siblings to a child of Plutus as she is to Nico because both Hades and Plutus were conflated into Pluto? Orcus was also conflated with Pluto - does that mean when Nico killed Bryce Lawrence, he was killing his half-brother? (cause then that parallels just a couple chapters later when Will faces off against Octavian-) Are there demigods who, depending on their godly parents’ form(s), are technically both a Greek and Roman demigod? If Hermes and Pan possibly originated from the same god, does that mean all the satyrs are siblings with the Hermes kids? If we want to get into all the nonsense of Dionysus’ origins and Zagreus and Hades, does that mean Nico is technically siblings with Dionysus kids? Does Dionysus joke about this during their therapy sessions? Are some demigods in certain cabins siblings with kids in other cabins but each others’ siblings aren’t siblings depending on what form their godly parents were in?

I have a headache now.

Thinking about the fact that the moment Poseidon saw Percy for the first time in 11-12 years, look scared and battered after going on a brutal quest to save the world, more or less the first thing he did was apologize for all the shit he's putting Percy through (past and future) because of him: "I'm sorry." The last thing he said in that meeting was tell Percy he's proud to claim him as his son: "You did well \ "You are a true son of the sea."

I-

Like yeah, he's not good by mortal standards, but by godly standards he's one of the best. Only Hades (pre and post PJO, not during) and Artemis can compete with that. Most of the demigods at camp and on the titan's side literally killed to get a fraction of what Percy had.

I have been wondering while reading your posts which god or goddess is your godly parent?

Aphrodite or Poseidon.

Out of all of the personality tests I've taken, I have mostly received the result to be Aphrodite, Poseidon being second.

I find it logical because I've always been curious about the demigods who are the kids of Aphrodite, their powers and their abilities. They're kind of always underestimated because their mother is 'the beauty goddess', but they have a great set of powers that prove to be extremely useful in battle. For example, Piper Mclean is one of my favourites, because of her charmspeaking and her fighting abilities.

So yeah, I'd say Aphrodite.

I feel like the way Percy could never get rid of the gods and their stupid quests is like a symbolic representation of how we never really leave our insecurities behind or how those specific thoughts just wander into our heads no matter how hard we try to get rid of them.

The gods also show how often our parents hurt us not physically not always but mentally. They need us to be their perfect little child not realising that maybe we are perfect just the way we are? Or that idk maybe we don't want to be their image of perfection.

It's horrible that sometimes your worst internal enemy is your parent. The person who is supposed to reassure you just ends up fucking you up in the head.

All kids deserve parents, but all parents don't deserve kids.

After much deliberation, I have realized that I don't need so many "who is your divine father" tests? but rather, a test like "which god would your character be paired with?" because I like to add demigod children to the mix and do crossovers. For example, a typical Cullen-comes-back-years-later fic… if Bella had had some demigod child, who would she be with? The truth is that it depends a lot on each person's favorite god and their version of Bella. In the case of Marvel, it would be fun if it wasn't Tony Stark, but Pepper who had a demigod son. I'd lean towards Poseidon, because it would be fun if the Avengers expected a mini-duplicate Potts and he turned out to be a sarcastic, problematic boy or girl. And what about 911, which I have also thought about a lot? Sure, it was most likely Buck who had a little mongrel running around, (I have some ideas with an Iris daughter, or a fem-Percy Jackson) but it is canon that Kayla Knowles is Apollo's daughter and has a father mortal. An older, adult daughter of Bobby's would also be interesting. Maybe Athena, or, I don't know why, Demeter I do have an idea of a daughter of Demeter with Kyle Harmon, the son of Horatio Caine from CSI Miami Or a demigod in Teen Wolf. I have a lot of ideas about demigods here and you can ask me: -A daughter of Hades with Victoria Argent, Anastasia Argent, good relationship with the family, Chris knows that she is not her daughter but he loves her just the same, small that she pretends to be macabre but she is adorable. -Twin sons of Apollo and Braeden -A daughter of Ares and Kate Argent, fierce, stubborn, who hates her mother very much. -A little girl also from Kate, daughter of Zeus, Sapphire, younger than Allison, somewhat shy, sweet, but very mature -Cora returns to Beacon Hills with a wolf cub, her two-year-old daughter Eliana, daughter of Apollo. -A daughter of Athena, Olivia McCall, daughter of Rafael McCall
