Cufflinks
...
Bottle cap button cufflinks. Pinned to linen sleeves. A project worthwhile, From small hands. With chipped paint decorating The brassy aluminum. Now a keepsake stored away In a shiny glass box. A conversation piece To warm hearts And to remember Who was lost.

I wrote a poetry book!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
all of you, my followers, are probably familiar with my writing about astrology and all that and I'm grateful for all of you and all the new people coming every day! it makes me so happy to see people liking my posts and finding them insightful 🥺
I got into creative writing a few years back and I needed a safe space to share my thoughts, some of you might know that I used to also post poetry/notes on here alongside astrology stuff, which is why I'm here writing this right now; I have published a poetry book and I want to share it with all of you! I've been working on this project for 2 slow years now and I'm very happy with how everything turned out; it consists of 134 pages worth of 224 "notes" (aka poems) and some random extras including "suggestions" (suggestive poems) and short stories. the style of writing I would say is avant-garde with a lot of say on identity, expansion, space, nature, and metaphysics, so it's not for everyone, but I have put all of my heart into every piece and I hope anyone who finds this checks it out and supports me and other small authors :)))
book title: "The earth, the stars, and me in between. by Nujm"
ISBN for hardcover: 9781738848003
ISBN for Ebook: 9781738848010

Lakeside Lamentation
This is a sneak peek of something I'm working on for my second upcoming collection. Naturally, I am not about to post the whole thing here.
Situated in a quiet little town, not far from the shore Lived a mother so weary, her children she adored She packed up their bags, and their car they did load For a family vacation, down a winding road But little did she know, that her children, oh how mischievous Had stirred up trouble, something sinister and grievous By the lake they played, and chanted words unknown Summoning an eldritch deity, from the depths it had grown The mother sipped her coffee, so unaware of the danger As her children whispered to a being, so strange and much stranger She called them to the car, ready to hit the road But the kids were drawn back to the lake, under a mysterious code
As she drove away, a darkness descended The sky turned black, the winds howled and wended She felt a chill creep up her spine As she left her children and the lake behind The coffee her only solace, a comfort in her fear She tried to push away the dread, the horror drawing near But deep down she knew, something was amiss As she sped along the road, something was remiss When she reached their destination, a cabin in the woods She thought she had escaped, the evil understood But the darkness followed, shadows in the night

“An Ode to Darkness” — from Melanin: Black by Dre Hill (Gutslut Press ‘22)
{image text}
An Ode to Darkness: In the shadow of the void, that was the universe, was the light of life born. It poured out of the gate of the woman covered in the dark, exploding into a series of stars and planets across a blank canvas. Rocks shattered and merged, rolling, and molding together. The cosmos spiraled and kissed her neck. Like the sun, she watched over the formation of the Earth, blowing the breath of her life into its soil. From the dirt and mud sprang the first woman, molded like clay, in the likeness of she who is darkness. From her loins she grew the first man. It was a tedious and arduous process. She raised her hands to the sky, locking her fingers with the woman clothed in the cosmos. Together they knead the Earth and birthed the first continent, Africa. This is the ode to darkness. The spiritual song rooted in the depths of humanity, connecting the light that is black, with the darkness that is white. This is the story, of herstory, the birth of all peoples from the original woman. This is the balance of nature, the dispelling of chaos with order, and the immortalization of the black body.

Phases
Phases seem to define me nowI try so hard to make memoriesTo make things seem specialTo be the pretend-intellectual you areTrying to find fire in this blank spaceIt’s mundaneIt’s all so blankSo goddamn blankMake up stories to feel for a secondNothing seems to come without validationPretense is the name of this gameWant to put a blade across my skinBut too tired to go and get itI’m the one who’s…

Gentle
I think Gentle is my favourite word. I love the way she sits on my tongue.
I love the way she knocks on my door and how I'll let her in. How she sees me at my worst and how she smiles kindly anyway.
I wish I was Gentle. I wish I was like her.
I told her I have all this love to give that I have nowhere to put.
Gentle told me to give it myself, but I wanted to give it away.
She asks me "Why not do both?"
So lately, I've been loving others, knowing Gentle will help it return.
She doesn't knock on my door anymore. I gave her a key.

We said nothing about perspective. Just a slight shift, an indefinable change in the perception of time. Where we used to find nothing but cold spots of doubt, there was now the promise of a world without limits. A movement toward the circle. A dazzling darkness full of opportunities.
