Throughout Light and Dark
Throughout their journey between worlds Yoru and Vani tend to talk about the similarities and differences, between them as creatures made from darkness. Especially one from the ancient past, and the current present. This is just one of em.
Or
"The kinda smell... That smells... Smelly."
As promised! Some levity after the last few angsty snippets seen here and here.
Scent,
"I can tell you're making faces over there. If you have something to say, say it." Yoruhua says, not looking up from behind their delicious paste.
"...You smell different." Comes Vanitas' voice across from them.
Yoruhua stops mid bite, putting down their treat on oily crumpled paper. Chewing thoughtfully before responding,
"... I suppose I do, yes."
Suddenly aware of it, their thick smoky copal replaces the tasty scent of meaty, buttery puff pastries. Slightly disappointing her. But its Vanitas' own growing burnt palm sugar and rancid iron almost fully kills their appetite.
Vanitas glares at her for a second, still refusing to eat his own meal. The uneaten fluffy white rice in sharp contrast with the black beans and minced meat.
'His food is going to get cold.' Yoruhua muses.
Still, he doesn't mind, if he doesn't want to eat, then he doesn't have to.
"You're supposed to tell me why," he gruffs.
She smirks, "and you're supposed to use your words, and actually ask."
Vanitas looks likes he's about to snap, but carefully takes a deep breath and gives in. The iron fades out leaving only the bitter aftertaste of charcoal in the back of her throat, "Fine. Why do you smell like the Heartless do, but differently? It's weird."
"Well, I'm not just some Heartless, so jot that down. And, you smell too,"
He flushes and snarls, "I-I know that."
She huffs, "sure you did, but regardless- you probably just can't tell since you're not used to actively using it, so it's weakened." She says, "But, I guess it's because I kept my physical form. Unlike the rest of the Homunculi- eh, that's the other original Darknesses- I'm still me, well, not me exactly. But this... Body, you see, still remains from when I was a singular being."
At Vanitas' annoyed look and re-worsening scent, Yoruhua grimaces and tries to elaborate,
"Ah... So, the others all... Blended into one another, without a body to keep them separated. Souls and hearts grossly mixing without care just for power..."
"They aren't like you or me anymore- back then, in the Realm of Darkness, sometimes it would be so dark, that we couldn't even see one another. So we developed scents to detect, identify, and understand each other to prevent fights. Though, mine's changed a bit due to sharing a heart with Orichalchemi," she finishes.
Vanitas huffs, unsatisfied with the answer, "okay first of all; you suck at explaining stuff. Second; so what? You're saying you didn't always smell like a someone was burning s'mores with incense sticks in a graveyard?"
They quirk an eyebrow and ignore his insult, "you seem oddly fixated on the subject. Why do you care what I smell like?"
The boy frowns, looking down at his food and avoiding her own stare, "I... how do you control it...?"
A deep sigh, but a fond one. That's the most direct he's been about asking for their help. Well, their meal can wait.
Slowly, they place an extra of their pastes de tinga on his still full plate, responding cooly, "well, for starters, you can take better care of yourself. The more energy you have- the better. So eat before it gets too cold. A healthy body produces a stronger scent and makes it easier to focus."
Wordlessly he does as she says without a fight.
It's a small win.
Yoruhua smiles to himself, finishing off their own food. And watches over him fondly.
It's moments like this, where he's simply living instead of anticipating the next attack, that she enjoys most. Through she'll never get over how horrible it felt to be trapped within Void Gear, her one window into the real world was always the one silver lining.
Watching him sleep peacefully on those rare nights, or try a new skill and smile where no one else could see him when he got it right...
"What are you looking at?" Vanitas asks wearily, looking up at her.
Yoruhua shakes her head, "nothing, I..."
She looks at him, truly, and decides to just say it, "seeing how far you've come since we've started this journey... Well, I'm proud of you, I've always been."
Vanitas blushes, and glares down at his nearly finished plate, "I don't get how you can just say things like that. Putting your emotions on display like that, like one of those weak sappy Lights."
Yoruhua laughs, "hah, honestly, you call it a weakness, but it's a lot harder to admit than it looks."
"While being genuine puts your weaknesses on full display, it also makes you fully aware of them and easier to defend. You can't protect what you don't understand. Ori showed me that."
They add, "I find it... Impressive, that the Light feels so confident in such emotion, that they leave it out in the open for all to enjoy, because they know they can trust those others with it- and in their abilities to protect it when the time comes."
At that he stays silent but eventually the tension in his shoulders dissipate, "so you... Trust me? Even after all I did to you as Void Gear?"
Yoruhua nods, "of course I do, besides, you didn't hurt me- I was only trapped inside. I got to see tons of interesting things with you. You even freed me." A mischievous smirk creeps on his face as he reaches over to ruffle his hair.
"H-Hey! Knock it off!" He whines.
They laugh, "sorry, I couldn't help myself. You're sweet, even if you are a punk most of the time."
He light heartedly pushes her hand away, "yeah whatever, you deserve it for dragging me behind you everywhere, it's only fair."
"dragging you? We're bonding! This is like... Those family roadtrip Lights take all the time! I'm building your character!"
"You kidnapped me!"
"Same thing!"
While the two bickered, neither of them noticed the sweeter scent shift in the air, incense mixing with palm oil to create a more neutral, delicate sandalwood.
#kh#kingdom hearts#kh oc#kh vanitas#kh fanfic#starry stories#they came from outer space!#Yoruhua inside: man u just wanna eat my paste but im SO good at this big sister job#meanwhile Vanitas is just like: fuck wait how do i change how i smell i can't believe ive been smelling RANK this entire time--#also Yoru: i refuse to tell you i also smelled rank before avoiding the question!#she smells like cacao and copal for the most part btw. i hc that is smells worse or more intense depending on the emotions#but it doesn't outright change without outside influence or mixing witb another person's scent#ig it could be considered a pheromone? but i dont want references to a b o.....#meanwhile Vanitas smells like burnt palm treas/charcoal and blood. and usual darkness usually smells rotten#its kinda based on personality and origin#but all darkness smells smokey burnt or cooked in some way. imo. with a few exceptions#which is ironic considering they're also usually cold to the touch (Vanitas not included bc hes technically human not a true homunculus)#like Yoru#had a whole other bit about shapeshifting but it got sad so i cut it out#but let if be known there are big differences between Humans and Homunculi and Vanitas is like. in the middle or human with Homunculi trait#he just missed out on the bigger size and complete shapeshifting/mimicry side still debating#if he should get a monster form like Yoru tho#he probably can shapeshift into his unverse tho! Yoruhua can't.#debating over whether or not they can also summon unversed to some degree since Homunculi are very emotion based. but we'll see#anyways#ill be back w cute flood vanitas and monster Yoru at a later date#hopefully

why is his name just 'Pilgrim' like i get it but i also don't... idk
oh he's gonna do it out of spite now for being called a bogus immortal by the dragon king
that entire painting is just of two gay lovers putting on shoes and getting immortality for it
well, he actually is really convincing, i can see why Wukong went back after those words...

Chapter 17
not tripitaka using wukongs temper against others-
jesus christ man
"thunder god mouth" XDDD best way to describe it 10/10
THE THREATS
XDD the arrogance!! he called the demon "my son" before starting a lecture XDD
he gets annoyed when people call him the BanHorsePlague now, thats so fucking funny to me
he's so real for that though, i'd wanna eat in the middle of a fight too
he is actually a menace to humans goddamn
HE REDUCED THE DEMON TO A BURGER
love how their calling him 'old carcass'
there is a lot of seemingly nice senery in this chapter
how'd they know all of that just by seeing a goddamn meat patty on the side of the road???
this is gonna be a pattern isn't it-
conversations with these two go no where but damn they do be giving me L O R E
he's being so nice now lmao
wft....
ok *fine* she gets a pass but jesus
GRAPHIC
jesus wukong
HA got'em
"don't start trouble again" "i won't" LIES
Chapter 18
oooooh this is the pigsy chapter!!! i can't wait to see some ass be beat!
i- i don't think i like these people...
Wukong really just said don't judge a book by it's cover
why does he always say "your poor monk" it's grinding my gears
"tell me everything!" .... "from ancient times-"
his surmname meant hog....
i can only picture that one manga panel in jjk where Yuta is dragging Yuji along lmao
ancient toilet humour?
"where are you going darling" he says as he returns to his original form
love that wukong is described and then called "virtually a living thunder god"
"i'll follow you to the ends of the earth" (menacingly)
Chapter 19
why do they all have caves?
it is pigsy
damn- Wukong's reading him
are they really throwing celestial law at one another??
he's bragging... really?
ah yes, a summary of the first seven chapters
he really said set your house on fire and follow me
man's really stripped him of all he was worth and then dragged him by the ear... he's like a mom...
HE'S REFERED TO AS IDIOT! oh this just got so much better
lmao both of them going "wine? oh we still drink that"
Wukong admitted to being a light weight XD
pigsy, trying to say a heart felt goodbye, the other two; hurry the fuck up
"you know him and not me? what kind of fuckery is this?"
"he insulted me and the pig?!" "how?" *proceeds to tell tripitaka exactly how he and pigsy were insulted*
Chapter 20
just by the title alone i know imma start to have beef with pigsy
they still call him idiot! YES
it's pigsy getting bullied hours!!!
that- that was a very round about way of calling him a dick Wukong
annnnnd he's boasting again...
huh? flying bricks, talking pots, and dancing tiles... interesting...
this old man has balls
"fix your ugliness" DUUUUUDE
i'm about to highlight each and every time Pigsy is refered to as Idiot! shits too funny!
ahhhhh pigsy's first kill steal!
OH SHIT NVM
dude just ripped off his own skin! what a power move!
jesus-
and we get to the first time tripitaka is truely captured!
"for you culinary pleasure" XDDDD why is that so funny?
this guy's actually quite smart for that
damn...
good wisdom wukong
i love how wukong is so often describes as "the one with the thunder god mouth and hairy face"
he's got a good sense to be this scared of him
monkey-monk?? (why is that so funny to me???)
he just told wukong he was a 'buy one get one free sale'!! AND HE'S THE FREE BIT XDDDDDD
KILL STEAL!!! +1 for butality, pigsy's score is now -99 points!
Wukong actually let him have credit for the kill? goddamn- is that character growth i see?
Chapter 21
no he does not!
Aqua man?????
Really?? *face palms*
why does he insist on calling himself grandpa?
is he about to disapline him like a grandpa too??
Coward
the divine wind of Samādhi? like the Samādhi fire? NEAT!!!
more divine intervention i see
the trend of calling pigsy an idiot continues and i am thriving in this enviornment
can he be any less annoying?
*crybaby beings to play on loop in my head*
idiot
it was the fucking gold star of venus
very humble wukong
lawless ape! XDDD
love that offending the great sage is quite possibly a crime punishable by death now
Chapter 22
its sandy time!!!
wouldn't that be qualifies as an inland sea?!
i don't know how to feel about that entire passage
cloud surfing lessons
he called Wukong his assistant- oh boy if he had heard that...
he can be there in half an hour?! wild...
sandy is aquired
Chapter 23
still love that his nickname is practically idiot
please- stop refering to your staff as a rod- i can't take reading "you'll get a ___ from this Huge Rod!" anymore T-T
you fucking idiots- your banter has now left the master stranded and he's gonna get captured by demons!
serves you right
Wu kong being so shocked he actually acted poliet?
Unreal and nonexisting- well those are some red falgs if i've ever seen em in this book
SHIT JUST GOT SO MUCH FUNNIER OMFG
she just keeps going!? dude- please- how can someone have so much
omg- this is all a test of character isn't it...
tripitaka; wukong you stay! Wukong; the fuck you mean me!? make pigsy stay
the entier latter half of this page pisses me off. fuck you pigsy
OH EW! SEVEAR ICK- GROSS
I FUCKING HATE YOU YOU GREEDY WHORE
I KNEW IT WAS A TEST OF CHARACTER!!!!!! I WAS RIGHT!!!!
Chapter 24
serves him fucking right
i agree with Wukong, leave the pig and go
holy hell they haven't even covered one tenth of the distance yet?
this is the chapter that that one monkey king animated movie was about.
to cowardly to do it himself so he's gotta wait for Wukong lmao
thus begins an entire two-ish pages of Wukong stealing fruit again
Wukong makes me nevious frfr
if it were so embarissing maybe you shouldn't have done it in the first place
Chapter 25
wukong.... buddy.... no.....
good plan boy's
dude can pick (break?) locks.... good to know
why do you fight first and ask questions later....

Headcanon/fic: "Tom with superpowers"
Reader x Tom Hiddleston/Loki
Gender neutral reader
Context: in the same world that happens the whole Avengers situation, Marvel releases the movies. You get a job as health assistant in the franchise, helping the injured actors while they train. There, you met Tom Hiddleston, and... maybe someone else too.
Tumblr media
Loki won his reputation in Midgard the wrong way, since the whole New York incident. You knew him well as the selfish psychopath you thought he was.
But ever since you started working in Marvel, you got a bit into the story and past of him and understood his character better. You thought he was quite charming.
Actually, you thought Tom Hiddleston, his actor, was more than charming.
You met him on a rainy day. Your scrubs were soaking wet, since you've come to work by walking (a terrible idea) and the rain caught you in the middle.
Someone in the entrance told you to get something dry from the lost & found box, and so you did.
A nice and warm hoodie replaced the top of your scrubs and you started drying your hair with a towel as you walked on set.
"Excuse me", said a deep and harmonious voice, touching your shoulder. "I think that belongs to me".
You lifted your gaze at the stranger and as soon as you met his eyes, both were speechless.
Tom Hiddleston in person. God, the man was even more beautiful than through a screen. You smiled nervously as he smirked. He didn't take his eyes off you for a second.
"What?", you finally said.
"You have my hoodie".
"Oh, I'm... I'm really sorry. I was... anyways, I'm giving it back now" you tried to articulate, still choking on your words. He noticed you were nervous and didn't comment on it. What a gentleman, you thought.
"Give it back in dinner, would you?" he said suddenly, yet smoothly. You had to blink twice to realize what he just said. "Meet you at eight in the doorway? I'll take you somewhere nice and quiet".
Your mind was off for the rest of the day, until dinner came along. Your coworkers noticed your brain was somewhere else than in the present, but they didn't say anything; they kind of figured Tom would've asked you out. They saw how he smiled at you on set the whole day.
Dinner was perfect, and so were the other five, six, seven...
You started dating very frequently. Always kept it down, avoiding the press rumors, avoiding paparazzis, keeping private life... well, private.
If there was something you definetly loved about him, was his passion. He was passionate about everything he spoke about. And he was even more passionate about listening to you talking.
And when you spoke your mind off about how Loki was misunderstood, and such a good character, such an interesting person (well, God); he listened.
Sometimes you could catch a glimpse of him being still on character. He'd say or do something and you'd answer "your Loki is showing", and he'd get all nervous and blushed.
You always wondered why. It's normal for actors to slip away something of their characters sometimes. Why did he get so embarrassed about it?
It was even more in interviews. He'd hide pretty well those assets that you'd connect so much to Loki's personality, afraid he might not "look Tom enough".
Already years into the relationship, you have already made it public. You still worked for Marvel and spent a lot of time on set, and sometimes you walked in some interviews.
There was this specific interview where you walked accidentally in the room, and he greeted you, with the camera running, with the most Loki tone of voice possible.
"Hello, baby".
Tom never called you baby. Not even when you called him daddy. He'd call you darling, dear, beloved, my love, my sweet, sweetheart, lover... but baby? Never that.
As soon as he realized those foreign words slipping out of his tongue, his face straightened and went into what you'd call his 'dark mode', a very serious face he made when his inner Loki spilled out of his words.
The 'dark mode' only could be described as the face someone does when making a big, irreparable mistake. Like saying the words he should've never said.
And it only faded away when he realized you didn't notice it. Like he was hiding a big secret from you, and those words would give him away.
But they never did, and he always relaxed his face to see that you were unaware of what he was hiding.
"Baby..." you recalled that same night, wrapped around in the warmth of the blankets. "You went all Loki today. But I like it. It fits you so well".
He stared at you from the doorstep, holding a book he promised to read you before sleeping. He smiled slightly and turned that smirk into a sad look very quickly.
"What's wrong, honey?".
"Nothing, my love. I'm just tired from work, that's all".
"For playing the God of lies, you're a terrible liar" you mocked him. He sat by your side and caressed your cheek with the soft touch of his hand.
"You're the only one who's always been able to read right through my bullshit. That's one of the reasons I love you so much". He said quietly.
"I'd love to know what goes through your mind when the character slips through your words. You play him marvelously, you shouldn't be ashamed to have gotten used to some of his mannerisms", you told him while running your fingers through his hair.
"I'd say I have too many of them".
"Yeah", you chuckled "it's almost like Loki is playing you, instead of you playing Loki".
"Oh, darling. Only if you knew", he said with the deepest and sexiest voice he has ever spoken.
"What's that supposed to mean?" you whispered.
He laughed slightly, and cut the conversation off with a "nothing, I'm just messing with you".
But you knew he wasn't.
Something in his eyes... he couldn't lie to you any longer. Not with you allowing it.
"What is it? I really, really want to know".
You insisted and insisted. He rolled his eyes and said nothing all night.
Next morning he didn't awake by your side. You were waiting for him in the kitchen, with a fresh cup of tea and a teasing smile on your face.
"Good morning, love" he said, hands in your waist while kissing both of your cheeks. "What are you doing up so early?".
"I want to do something crazy".
"Oh no".
"Oh yes".
"What do you want to do?".
"Let's go to Asgard. Let's go to catch a glimpse of the cell Loki is supposedly locked up in. I know it sounds crazy, but I really think it would help you with the character building. You know, since you give such importance to the role and..."
But he didn't let you finish, and closed the conversation with a "no way. Absolutely not".
And there was nothing else to discuss.
"I'm going".
"He's a crazy murderer that wants to slave everybody. There is no way I'm letting you see him".
"I'm going you like it or not", you said, grabbing your keys and going towards the door.
He stood infront of you with the most serious look you've ever seen in his face. "You're not going".
"Just one reason, give me one".
"He's not in his cell, you wouldn't find him there".
"And how do you know that?".
His eyes, that once showed anger and concern, were now fearful and disappointed.
"I can't say".
"This has to do with your 'dark mode', doesn't it? What are you hiding from me, Thomas?".
He sighed. Hugged you tightly as if you were never holding him again after what you'd hear next.
He whispered in your ear "I'm sorry for lying. It's just what I do best".
Tom and the expressions that differentiated him from Loki got bathed in a golden light. His hair became long and dark, his facial hair disappeared, his eyebrows got fixed (exactly how they made his make up for the movies), and his midgardian shirt and trousers transformed into the leather and metal armor that represented Loki so well.
"Oh my FUCKING GOD" you yelled as you hold your body against the wall, trying not to fall. Your legs were shaking.
"Yes".
"YOU'RE--".
"The... fucking God".
"H-how??".
"Long story short, I needed to start over. And I'm a shapeshifter, it's not too hard for me to disguise".
You sat on a chair and he did the same. You looked at him up and down as you steadied yourself. Once you were already taking all the madness in, you were able to speak.
"So, you could've pretended to be ANY midgardian out here".
"I could've".
"And you chose to become an actor that would play you?".
He laughed, with the same laughter Tom had. He's the same man I fell in love with, after all, you thought.
He started saying that he understood if you felt unsafe and lied to with him. That if you wanted to end the relationship his soul would ache eternally, but he would let you go. That he did something unforgivable; he played with your trust.
You got up and cupped your hands around his neck, leaving a small kiss on his lips.
"Shut up".
"Beg you pardon?".
"I love you, I don't care about anything else. To me, now you're Tom with superpowers".
"That's the most stupid yet most lovable thing you've ever told me".
"I'm sure I said stupider things". And you glanced down. "I wonder how much of your God skills you were hiding all this time".
He smiled before lifting you in the air and taking you bride style to the bedroom.
"Oh, baby, you'll see".

I... have some thoughts on the Loki finale. It was not what I was expecting, but I'm still hopeful for season 2.
This felt like a meh finale, like how a lot of season finales felt in Spring 2020 when they unexpectedly quit filming and had to cut things short by a couple episodes thanks to the pandemic. Only this was the planned out finale, they should've given a bit more oomph. I'm quite a fan of exposition and character development usually, but all the dialog was centered on He Who Remains, so it felt like our main characters were just side pieces.
Plus, the final "cliffhanger" of Mobius not knowing Loki and the statue of HWR replacing the Time Keeper statues felt quite lackluster. Not sure how they could've made it hit harder, but it didn't deliver the "oh shit" vibes they intended, but maybe that's cuz Mobius not remembering Loki has been an expected plot line on tumblr for half the season so it wasn't a blindside.
I get the point of the Sylki kiss. From what I've seen on tumblr so far I feel like the nuance of Sylvies actions was lost to most people (both Sylki fans and antis just Didn't Get It). It wasn't a big declaration of love like the fans are grasping onto it as, and it wasn't shoving selfcest into the canon to keep the heternormativity like antis are accusing it of being; it was Sylvie using Loki's attachment to her to trick him. She needed Loki out of her way, and she knew the only way to get past him and get He Who Remains' tempad was through emotional distraction. She used his love against him and betrayed him, a kiss was simply the most efficient way to do it. I did a whole post last week about Sylvie's feelings towards Loki, but to sum up I firmly believe that while Loki harbors some romantic feelings for Sylvie, she feels strictly platonic towards him, but is very aware of his attraction. She took advantage of his care for her to get the upper hand during their fight. Heck she even foreshadowed it herself in ep 5. "There are more important things than friends" "like taking down the TVA" she told Loki that taking down whoever is behind the TVA comes before everything; it's priority #1 in her book, above friendship or love or trust. Loki proved that his priority now is the greater good of the universe not her revenge, so Sylvie has no use for him anymore (partners only when it's convenient, because she is a Loki and that's how emotionally stunted Lokis behave).
I would like to point out the irony of her being worried about Loki betraying her, only to turn around and betray him. It's in the realm of "people who cheat assuming their partner is cheating" / "not using a turn signal when changing planes to avoid being cut off because when you see someone else use their signal you tend to cut them off", it's assuming other people will behave like you do. Sylvie feared in ep 5 that Loki would betray her in the end because she knew if it came down to it she'd betray him. But the thing is, he's actually grown past that. Loki is finally thinking about how his actions can damage others, not just his own wants and needs. Sylvie saw this moral change in Loki, realized there was no chance of getting him back on the blind revenge boat, and decided to exploit his newfound selflessness and emotional attachment to get him out of her path.
This whole season Loki has been maturing emotionally and growing into the best, most heroic version of himself. Sylvie, on the other hand, still has that deceptive, selfish, can't trust anyone persona that every Loki develops to combat insecurity. She hasn't had the emotional growth needed to see the bigger picture, she's still trapped in her own self centered mindset. As such, she disregards the impact her betrayal will have on Loki, the impact killing HWR will have on the universe. She doesn't even take a beat to consider whether revenge is still the right path cuz she doesn't practice self reflection yet; revenge has always been the goal and she refuses to give herself a chance of changing her mind. I hope in season 2 she'll get some character growth, now that her 1 goal has been accomplished.
Now on to Mobius. I enjoyed his scenes, I wish we'd been shown more of what he did to reveal the truth to the rest of the TVA. Again, I feel like too much time was given to HWR's monologing and not enough was spent on the other characters so Mobius and B-15 got very little screen time to display their plan. I am happy Mobius got the opportunity to throw Ranslayers betrayal back in her face, and his attemp at attacking her...my boy you work a desk job you ain't no fighter, she used to work in the field collecting variants, you had no chance. Also, where the F did she go??? I kept expecting her to show up at the end of time but she didn't. Where did Miss Minutes send her??
I'm sad Mobius doesn't know Loki anymore, but I can't say I'm surprised. I've got a few different thoughts on what the heck is going on with him and the TVA:
Sylvie accidentally sent Loki way back to a time early on in the TVA before HWR created the Time Keepers for anonymity. As such, this is a past Mobius who has yet to meet Loki or even learn of Loki's existence. If this is the case, then I think Loki and Past!Mobius's interaction at the end of ep 6 will be the catalyst for him becoming a Loki expert. The 63 branching timelines Mobius and B-15 are discussing before Loki interrupts are from some currently unknown disaster that'll be a plot line in s2. (This is my least favorite theory, but nevertheless a possibility)
HWR was correct when he said that if Sylvie kills him and destroys the TVA then another variant of him will just start it all up again. This variant didn't care to remain anonymous, hence the big statue of him, but kept all the memory wiped variants working there. Because time is a chaotic bitch, the changeover from one HWR variant to another may have been near seamless at the TVA and just involved a quick memory wipe of anything relating to the Time Keepers, Loki and Sylvie, or knowledge that the TVA are all variants. The 63 branches may be thanks to something Renslayer is doing like killing all the HWR variants in existence in order to negate the need for the TVA. The branching could also be from Sylvie's revenge still, we have no idea how much time has passed between her killing HWR and a new HWR taking over so the branching she caused could still be an issue.
There have actually been multiple TVAs running simultaneously, each in their own multiverse. Each one employs memory wiped variants, each one is in charge of a certain subset of timelines, and all work under the one HWR. Sylvie used HWR's tempad to eject Loki back to the TVA, but she accidentally sent him to the TVA of a different multiverse not realizing that's a Thing. The 63 branching timelines Mobius and B-15 are discussing are indeed from Sylvie killing HWR, but there's only 63 as opposed to the countless we saw diverging from Sylvie's perspective because this TVA only sees branches on timelines within their own multiverse. Mobius doesn't know Loki because he isn't our Mobius and in the multiverse he works in maybe Loki's aren't as much of an issue because none of them ever escaped the TVA like Sylvie did (or none of them have Tom's face so he doesn't recognize him as a Loki). If this is the case, then Loki is gonna have to find his way back to his own multiverse in order to be reunited with his Mobius, and that could end up happening thanks to Renslayer. Miss Minutes gave her a file that I suspect only HWR should have access to. Maybe it was tempad coordinates for other multiverses? It took til the 31st century for the multiverses to be connected despite Tony figuring out time travel in the 21st century because travel between universes is much harder, maybe HWR is still the only one who knows how to do that. (If this theory is correct then all the time travel done during Endgame was through timelines within one multiverse) Also just thought of this but what if the reason there are so many extreme variations of loki that grew to adulthood is because the criteria of "sacred timeline" is different in each multiverse. Classic Loki and maybe President Loki and Kid Loki are from the same universe as MCU Loki, but red haired Loki, Croki, Boastful Loki, etc are all from other universes. Think about it, Classic Loki, 2012 Loki, and MCU Loki all have an exact identical path up until their nexus event (or death in MCU Loki's case). I think other than identifying as female, Sylvie's childhood was identical as well and that her nexus event was coming to terms with her adoption as a child, which erased the catalyst of 2011 Thor's plot and would've changed everything for her future path. Had her adoption remained a secret and she grew up on asgard, I believe her story would mirror MCU Loki's. It mildly hit me weird that there would be such wild variation amongst Lokis, even with him being a shapeshifter, because there's a rigid sacred timeline (that supposedly the MCU movies have all adhered to) and they all felt like too big of a divergence to have been left unchecked so long. If boastful Loki was telling the truth about getting all 6 infinity stones then he should've triggered a nexus event as soon as he got more than the 3 he is "supposed to" interact with, unless in his multiverse the sacred timeline criteria is different. Another theory: the agents employed in each TVA are from multiverses other than the one they're working in. It would make sense, keep them from running into their own past by fully detaching each agent from their home timeline/universe. So the Principal!Renslayer that B-15 found will never in any future become the TVA judge we know. The one we know maybe came from the universe Loki got sent to, and that's how the two of them will end up crossing paths again.

Peachtea/TripSun angst idea. Nobody knew Wukong would disappear for 500 years so they're mourning until Xiaotian starts training with him. Tang composes himself to wait a little longer but Wukong just ignores all the signs. Until he gets into an argument with Tang and Tang ends up snapping "Why did you disappear for 500 years?!"
Okay so here’s the thing, I can only get behind the whole ‘The other Pilgrims ALL thought Wukong was dead and are PISSED at him now’ stuff, only, and I mean ONLY if Wukong either thought they all didn’t want to hear from him again anyway, or if he thought they were dead too.
....I mean my only contributions to all those ‘Reunion with Baije and Wujing’ posts were both ‘Wukong thought they were dead too’ so CLEARLY thats my read on the whole thing. I sincerely can’t see him just... NOT telling people he cared that much about that he was gonna bounce for that long to be alone on FFM, so if he knew they were alive he would have told them.
And then you know someone spotted that little shrine with the origami figures in the Special and I was there like:
Tumblr media
 So like, lets do something we’ll both enjoy here then because all of those reunion fics are almost exclusively centered around the trio, and we oh so rarely see Sanzang (whether he is Tang or not) get involved.
So like first off, assuming LMK is on a sci fi alternate earth instead of being in the future, there’s still a solid nine hundred or so years between the end of the Pilgrimage and the supposed time Wukong disappeared for Monkie Kid timeline (JTTW is set in like the 600s or so if i remember correctly, might be wrong about the exacts tho) so lets assume those nine hundred years were uneventful.
So yeah, idk the hows, the hows don’t matter. What DOES matter is Wukong somehow loses contact with the others and is somehow convinced they were all killed, had his last stand against DBK and then went off travelling for a century to come to terms with his brothers and his precious, darling, beloved Master all perishing due to his inability to protect them.
and meanwhile for the others he was just... GONE. Like he’d vanished off the face of the earth, And the last the three of them ever saw of him was the staff rooted into the mountain that now kept the Bull King below. Just in case maybe the tree of them would periodically head off to Flower Fruit Mountain and check in with the monkeys that could still talk, but after about a century it was clear. If he WAS still alive, he wasn’t coming back. And the idea that he’d purposefully leave all of them behind just for the hope that he WAS still alive would do his memory a disservice.
So when Wukong returns to FFM wouldn’t it be great if he like, JUST missed that last visit? Like DAYS after Sanzang, Baije and Wujing had been there for the final time to hold an impromptu funeral for their dead friend on his homeland and finally accept that he was gone, Wukong returns to the mountain and builds his little shrine for his dead friends... the Monkeys all look at eachother awkwardly and shrug, assuming this will be settled soon enough, surely it’ll be solved before too long.
And then another 400 years of kingly depression naps and the others falling in and out of contact with eachother as they adapt to the ever changing world around them later, Xiaotian snatches the staff from the bull family.
And... Look... It’s been a ROUGH 500 years on Sanzang now called simply Tang. He’d only recently tracked down Baije-now-called-Pigsy in the past... what Ten years? and was only tangentially aware of what Wujing-now-called-Sandy was up to. And... Look... LOOK. It’s ridiculous that he’s still hung up over losing Wukong as much as he is. He’s Well FUCKING aware it’s ridiculous. He should know better, he quite LITERALLY reached immortality through enlightenment. He KNOWS he should know better.
So why-... Why can’t he say his real name without his gut still twisting into knots? He still tells the stories because telling them behind a wall of detachment, pretending he wasn’t there on the action for most of them helps in some small way, but why does he have to always call him ‘the Monkey King’? What a question, he knows why. He gave his heart away when he was still mortal, and so mortal his heart will forever stay. Dead and returned to the stone with the impulsive monkey he’d given it to.
And then It’s not dead. Because he’s not dead. and honestly at first it’s just shock, it’s just reeling with the sheer tidal wave of feelings he had to spend hours meditating just to sort through. The three of them meet up after Xiaotian and Xiaojiao have turned in for the night to discuss what the FUCK just happened, and all three of them come away with different conclusions.
Baije is furious and will refuse to seek out Wukong unless its to tell him off for letting the three of them belive him dead, Wujing is sad and would like to see Wukong again to simply ask why he’d decided to cut the three of them out of his life like that, but doesn’t want to do it alone. And he’s...conflicted.
He wants this to be a joyous discovery. he wants to be so relieved and euphoric at his monkey still being there, having ALWAYS been there, that he wouldn’t be able to stop smiling for days on end. But he can’t. It’s all so... messy inside and he’s going to need to keep his distance if he wants to be able to approach Wukong with a level head. This was why attachments such as these were foolish he should have known better all those years ago but it was centuries too late now, and this confliction is what he has to suffer through as the result... wanting to laugh and cry and scream all at once because Wukong is ALIVE, he’d spent SO long in mourning for him, and HOW DARE HE ignore them all and let them assume the worst?!
So he hides behind that Scholar Tang persona while he sorts through his emotions. And it works for the most part.
And then New Years happens.
And... Look, Wukong’s been THROUGH it in the last 500 years. He’s done everything he could to just... GET OVER the loss of his love His Master and His brothers. he went through all the damn stages of grief,
Spent that first decade in denial poking around everywhere he could to see if any of them-ANY of them were in hiding somewhere, spent another three decades wandering the world and starting fights with other cultures divine warriors (and that Aphrodite chick was DEFINITELY hitting on him the entire time, extolling about how rarely she got to use her ‘Aria form’ whatever that meant) to work through his rage without actually getting himself in trouble with his own heavenly court. Spent another twenty years or so looking through as many underworlds as he could find, no matter how many of them really wanted to test just HOW immortal he was (Answer: Too Immortal for any of them) to see if ANYONE had anything he could work with, and always coming up empty. eventually crossed the ocean to the other landmass because he was tired of looking at all of these places and seeing either memories or wasted time looking for bargaining chips, and spent a decade or so deciding he hated Mexico and went back to China. and then spent another thirty years just procrastinating returning home to his mountain.
When he returns to flower fruit mountain its as though he’d never left. His monkeys greet him with excitement but he’s standing on the shores of his home he hasn’t seen in a century and... feels nothing. Like his ability to feel anything for anything beyond the people he’s lost is gone. He makes a little shrine that spends most of its time on a shelf that's difficult to be able to look at full on without craning your neck weirdly and if any of his subjects notice that he takes a bit too much care in folding the little paper figure of the monk as he sets the four figures up along the edge of the little thing none of them judge him over it. He’s rarely got the energy for tears anymore, but when he does it’s usually when that little figure catches his eye.
By the time Xiaotian crashes into his life he’s... getting better. At least he thinks he is. having the loud excitable boy in his life is helping chase the shadows away a little bit (though when they return oh how they scream) and he hears some stories of his friends on training days and... geez sometimes he’ll tell this or that story and Wukong will be so THOUROUGHLY reminded of someone that it just... hurts.
And then New Years happens.
And he finally sees him again -- And he finally meets Xiaotian’s friends
And he still doesn’t know how to feel it’s all SO MUCH -- And they feel familiar so he gives them all a quick glance with golden eyes
And he can only do the one thing that feels safe right now -- And oh... that makes sense. How lucky they all found eachother again after reincarnating.
Sanzang hides behind the Tang persona and lies with an energy that could only be harvested from the sheer maelstrom of emotions fighting for dominance -- and Wukong leaves before he says something incriminating because now he knows and he can’t Un-know.
He should have known better but its centuries too late. And it doesn’t even matter that he doesn’t know how to feel about this whole thing he HAS to keep seeing him, he can NOT let him vanish again -- This was a mistake, this was a mistake, he cannot face them all and see lack of recognition, he cannot have his brothers treating him only as Xiaotian’s mentor he can NOT handle looking at him and seeing a stranger.
He needs to at least TALK to him -- He can’t stay away
Wukong doesn’t start out hanging out at the Noodle Shop on down time, that’d be too much too quick, especially since Baije-.. Since Pigsy is clearly still pretty steamed for the whole ‘letting Xiaotian into the world of magic and monsters’ stuff. But he’ll often shapeshift and keep an eye on things like that... No he is NOT eavesdropping on the reincarnations of those three out of the ridiculous desperate desire to feel close to them again. Because he’d rather just love him miss them from afar than be treated as a stranger.
But of course Tang notices when he does. Every time. And every time he wants to say something but his throat feels too tight. That first day he’d fallen on the persona because it was all he felt he COULD do but now the very idea that he’d have to pretend to be someone else just to be able to speak to his monkey not his not anymore Him was completely out of the question. Tang’s actually surprised with himself the first time he finds his voice.
The conversations come quickly, neither of them quite content to ignore the other now that its become obvious. The conversations are mostly stilted, awkward. Wukong seems both unable to help himself from talking to him, but unwilling to LOOK at him. Tang’s best guess is that he somehow doesn’t recognize him, Had he really changed that much in the time they’d been apart? Had he really lost so much affection for his old master that he could no longer recognize him beneath a slight change in appearance? That might be the reason the Hurt finally starts to win in the eternal standoff between Joy and Sorrow in how this whole thing makes him feel.
And maybe it’s something simple, maybe Wukong is just barely starting to lower his guard a bit. Maybe just sharing a space with the man who once was the love of his life his master was finally starting to chalk over the rough edges his long since broken heart would constantly stab into him with. and he just SAYS something. Something probably innocuous, something he’d said a million times on the Journey alone. And to Tang it just... feels like he’s mocking him, like he’d known this whole time and had just been playing with his emotions in a way he wouldn’t have tolerated back then- so why should he tolerate it now?
 And the first words out of his own mouth are “Bad Monkey!” and Wukong freezes as Tang begins to lecture him
How he’d spent a solid third of his time immortal in mourning over him, how he’d been the one to tell Baije and Wujing that it would be a disgrace to his memory to believe him alive and instead that he’d chosen to cut the lot of them out of his life, despite how much HE’D wanted to believe it too. How hurt he was to find out that not only he HAD been ignoring them for so long but also that he’d apparently had apparently not even recognized any of them when they HAD all seen each other again! How much he’d missed him, how happy he’d still been to see him again.
Yes, yes, pathetic, emotional baldy always bursting into tears at the simplest of things nothing’s changed etcetera etcetera- He hadn’t been lying on new years when he said he had a million questions, but all he really wanted to know was why? Why did he cut them out of his life, why did he shut HIM out? Why did you disappear for 500 years Wukong?
And Wukong reaches out, his hand is- shaking? and removes the glasses from right off his face--normal glass obviously, Baije had insisted they completed the scholarly look and annoyed him into compliance--
“You’re-” he hesitates, looks, almost afraid? “You’re not a reincarnation..?”
Oh...
Well now they both looked the part of fools.
Two sobbing fools clutching to eachother in the alleyway behind Pigsy’s shop, and oh MAN did they have some things to talk about, because Wukong was DEFINITELY coming back with him to his apartment for the night and then first thing in the morning he was going to visit his brothers to internalize that THEY weren’t reincarnations either and then he was going to have to explain where he’d been for that first century while they were all still looking for him to THEM too.
And yes he should have known better than to get attached to him in this way in the first place, it was disgraceful, the sheer misery it had brought alone was proof enough of that. But Wukong was nuzzling into his shoulder, and pressing those strange feeling monkey kisses across his cheeks and jaw,  and his breath was hitching with pure relief and joy and it was for him-
And fuck it, he just didn’t care.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Finale
——————————————————————————
The repetitive high pitched beeping drew you out of your heavy sleep. You winced as the ceiling light switched on automatically, the brightness glaring down at you. You heard a groan from your roommate, signalling that he was also awake. You lay there for a second, your eyes trying to adjust, before pulling yourself up into a sitting position.
You turned your head towards the boy on your left, wincing once again as your neck cracked loudly. His eyes moved towards you, one eyebrow raised questioningly.
‘Lab last night?’ He asked, the three words asking the question that all of you dreaded.
Did they take you into the lab last night? Did they experiment on you? What did they do to you? What do you remember? Do you remember anything?
‘Yep.’ You muttered. ‘Routine 2b.’
It was Jeno’s turn to wince at your revelation. He knew that 2b was a painful routine that they could put you through, involving a lot of needles and a heavy focus on your neck.
You simply let out a dry chuckle and shrugged, a short yet sharp pain shooting through your neck and upper back as you did so.
‘Still feeling it?’ He asked again, clearly noticing your obvious discomfort.
‘How could you tell?’ You gave him a small smile, a sad but familiar one that was always exchanged between the two of you the morning after a visit to the lab.
The door of your cell buzzed, signalling that it was open, and in walked a single guard. He was wearing protective gear from head to toe, from thick boots, to a bullet proof vest, to his gloves, all the way to the helmet covering his face. You never knew who was behind all the gear, having never seen the face of a single guard in this facility for as long as you’d been here. The pistol strapped to his boot, or the knife at his side, or even the machine gun across his back probably should have scared you, but when that’s all you’ve known, you don’t see anything wrong with it.
Besides, you’re only in this facility to protect the outside world from dangers like you. The facility you’re in holds some of the most dangerous people in the world. The upper levels of the facility held criminals, each getting more threatening as you ventured down through the floors of the building. Those arrested for petty theft or vandalism were kept at the top, then the serial killers and mass murders were contained one floor above the bottom. You were kept in the most secured sub basement section of the facility. The lowest possible layer. You were watched at all time by guards and cameras, taken into labs for tests and experiments. Doctors would perform these on you, taking samples and notes, figuring out how to help you control yourselves.
The sub section you were kept in held around 150 people, most of them teenagers and young adults like you. You were different, called mutants of some kind. That was the closest you had ever come to an actual answer about what you were. What you did know was that you had abilities, something that the average human didn’t have, and that was what made you dangerous. Out of all the years you had been here, you had only managed to figure out a few other subject’s abilities. The seven other boys you shared your area with, to be exact.
You first found out about your roommate, Lee Jeno, subject A7, weather manipulation. He could create a storm by narrowing his eyes or make the sun shine brighter by simply smiling. His abilities were often affected by his emotions. The happier he was, the easier it was to create a sunny environment, but when he was angry or frustrated, he often found it difficult to control the storm that started brewing. There was something oddly poetic about his abilities though. This thought occurred to you the one and only time you saw him cry. To this day, you still have no idea what happened to break his heart like that, but, you watched one day as the guard pulled him aside and delivered some news. The next thing you knew, Jeno had collapsed to the ground, sobs tearing from his chest. Even though you were inside, rain droplets started to fall on your head. It was as if the sky had decided to cry with him.
There was Mark Lee, subject A3, healing and super speed. Apparently it’s incredibly rare to have more than one ability. That’s why they call Mark Lee the ‘Golden Boy’. He often finds the world running at a pace that was too slow for him, his naturally faster system getting bored easily. He would spend some time running laps around the training room faster than you could blink. His healing skill is the one he has most trouble with. It doesn’t come as easily to him as his speed does. Instead, he has to learn it. Without thinking much, he can mend cuts and fade bruises, and, when he really focuses, he finds a way to stop serious pain or bleeding, and often pulls the body back together slightly.
Next, Huang Renjun, subject D9, image manipulation. He is the hardest to get a read on. You often can’t tell if he’s really in front of you, or if it’s simply just an image of him. He can make you see anything he wants you to see. Whether that is an empty training room when there’s actually ten people in there, or if it’s suddenly transporting you to a beach in the Caribbean. He seems to have the most control over his abilities out of all of you. Focusing now on making multiple people see what he wants them to, rather than just an individual.
After him, Lee Donghyuck, subject B5, he sees the future. No one knows how much he can see or how accurate it is, but he always know more than you do. You often think that he knows a lot more than he’s letting on. He likes to use his ability for trivial things, like telling people what’s for lunch or what to expect in training today. He has a much more serious and caring side to him though. You suspect that he uses his ability to keep an eye on your emotions as somehow, he always seems to know when you’re having a bad day.
Also, Na Jaemin, subject D2, mind control. Sweet as sugar but just as artificial, he could send you the deadliest smile, all while secretly enticing you into doing something for him. Normally it’s nothing drastic, fetching his lunch for him or asking a guard the question he doesn’t want to. But you never know when he’ll get bored of that and make you do something you really don’t want to. You always make sure to keep him on your good side. Similar to Donghyuck, no one really knows the true extent of his powers, making him even more mysterious. Even the guards seem nervous of him because you can never quite tell when he’s enchanting you, not until it’s too late.
Then comes Zhong Chenle, subject C6, a shapeshifter. Can transform easily if he’s looking at the animal, harder if he has to remember it and really has to focus if he wants to take on the form of another human. He always seems to be in a good mood. How he manages that you have no idea, but you’re always thankful. He takes the whole situation less seriously than the others. Choosing to randomly turn into birds and fly into the guards helmets or run up their legs as a mouse. No matter what, he always manages to make you laugh.
And finally, Park Jisung, subject D4, super strength. Not exactly what you would expect the boy to have, considering his personality. He seems too sweet for this reality. He always wants the best for people and sees the good in everyone. Sometimes, you wish that you could have that mindset. He’s such a pure soul that you often forget he could squish you in between his fingers like a fly if you weren’t careful. He constantly seemed to forget that he was incredibly strong, often banging the table when laughing and knocking off a leg, or clapping Hyuck on the back and sending him sprawling to the floor. He was a bit clumsy but had a heart of gold.
Rounding out the floor, there was you, subject A1, telekinesis. You could move a glass simply by looking at it, pick something up by blinking or shake your head and watch the overhead lights swing. If you focused hard you could lift or move heavier things, but moving people took almost all of your energy. Like Jeno, your emotions affect how powerful you were. Unlike with Renjun and Chenle who seem to lose control the angrier or more emotional or worked up they get, with Renjun’s images flickering and Chenle shifting uncontrollably from animal to animal, you and Jeno seem to be able to do more. Jeno could make a thunder storm powerful enough to blow the windows out by clenching his jaw and you could lift impossibly heavy objects and even throw them. Pushing people to the side also only took a slight flick of your hand. Sometimes your powers scared yourself. What would you do if one day you lost control and hurt someone you loved? If you were already dangerous enough to be locked in a facility like this, what would that make you? You would be worse than a monster.
As well as sharing the same floor with you, you also shared the same training room and dining hall. You even shared the same lab. It terrified you every time you walked into or past it and got a glimpse of the blood coating the doctor’s hands from their previous procedures.
The guard back out of your doorway, keeping an eye on the two of you at all times. You tilted your head to the left slightly, narrowing your eyes at him, watching as the guard’s moves sped up. He tripped over his own feet slightly in a bid to leave the room as fast as possible, causing both you and Jeno to burst out laughing when the door was shut.
‘You really have to stop doing that. It’s mean.’ Jeno lightly scolded you, the smile still present on his face.
‘Oh please, I am nowhere near as bad as Chenle. You know, Jisung told me that the last time the guard went into their room, Chenle had hidden himself as a moth under the bed, and then dropped in front of the poor guard and turned himself into a bear.’ You recited the story of yesterday morning to Jeno’s disbelieving face. ‘It’s true! Besides, at least we get to wake up to a smile on our faces.’
‘Yeah, you have a point.’ He paused for a second before giggling again. ‘Chenle is ruthless.’
You couldn’t help but laugh as well, treasuring the rare moments like this. Moments where everything seemed ok, seemed normal, and you could enjoy life and laugh with friends as if nothing else was wrong. However, those moments only ever last a few seconds.
The speakers in your room buzzed to life as a voice cracked through them.
‘All subjects to the rose room in five minutes. All subjects to the rose room in five minutes.’
You both looked at each other and sighed, before climbing out of your beds and grabbing the clothes provided. The guards come in every morning to drop them off. A simple grey jumpsuit, that was all you wore, everyday. You grabbed yours and headed into the bathroom to change. You pulled it on and spared yourself a short look in the mirror. The dark bags around your eyes were prominent, as were the small red dots on your neck. The only traces of what you went through the previous night. You rubbed them, trying to soften the aching before turning to leave the bathroom.
You knocked on the door, waiting for a shout from Jeno to say that it was okay for you to come out, before exiting. Together you waited for the trademark low pitched buzz that signalled your cell door being unlocked, and headed out into the hallway.
As you left you spotted the doctor waiting by your door. The other cells on your floor made the same low pitched buzz, and, gradually, out walked the other six boys. There were doctors positioned by each door, prepared with an injection. You received it every day, a numbing agent, that dulled your abilities for a period of time. It was given to you in the morning, allowing you to do your work and have lunch before it wore off and you went to your training sessions.
The doctor extended a gloved hand to you, silently asking for your arm. You handed it to her and she rolled up your sleeve. She turned over your wrist and held you by the elbow as she positioned the syringe just below the joint.
The syringe wasn’t the kind they used in the labs. It wasn’t glass with a long metal needle on one end, it was thicker, something that had to be properly gripped with a button on the top to administer whatever was inside.
The doctor gave you no warning before she pushed the button and you winced as the machine let out a hiss, injecting the blue serum into you. You watched as she held out a hand to Jeno and repeated the same procedure. You blinked slowly a few times, the effects of the drug already taking hold.
‘Make your way to the rose room. Now.’ A guard to your left barked.
You turned robotically, your mind fuzzy and clouded. You began the journey to the rose room, your entire being occupied with the simple task of getting there. You had no thought process, no questions running around your mind, you weren’t thinking of anything. You just did what you were told.
You walked down with Jeno by your side, the white walls and floors passing you by with every step you took. You vaguely registered Jaemin joining you in your peripheral vision, but you didn’t turn to look at him. You kept your head straight, your face emotionless and your mouth shut. None of you looked at each other, none of you looked anywhere but straight ahead, and none of you uttered a word. None of you gave an inclination that you were more that walking robots, fully compliant and prepared to carry out any instruction given.
Because, in reality, under this drug, that was all that you were reduced to. You just didn’t realise the danger of that yet.
---
The door to the rose room was already open when you arrived, a guard standing there holding it for you. You didn’t spare a look towards him, your dull eyes kept focus on what was in front of you. You trudged towards your position, finding the spot labelled with your subject number and began your work.
The rose room was a large greenhouse. Inside it was a maze of rose bushes, sporting roses of all kinds and colours. If you were more awake then maybe you would appreciate the reds, blue, yellows and purples a lot more, but in your zombified state, you only knew work. In the middle of the room, however, was a large conveyer belt.
Your job was to extract certain things from these roses, place them on the conveyer belt, and move onto the next thing. You did this for three hours in the morning everyday.
It was only in the rose room that you saw more of the subjects that were kept in the facility. You were just conscious enough to be aware of the girl and boy on either side of you, and of the fact that you didn’t recognise them.
However, you were blissfully unaware of the guards stalking through the rows of you. They stopped by the boy on your left and grabbed him by the shoulders. You didn’t register the guards movements. You didn’t register the boy being violently yanked out of his position. You didn’t register him being dragged down the halls. You didn’t register his screams.
You did your work.
---
Due to the numbing agent of the serum, time didn’t seem to exist during your work and lunch, so, before you knew it, it was time to train.
The training room was a very large open space, with an area of it dedicated to a certain activity. Your training works in a circuit. Each of you has an individual routine, specific activities and exercises to work on each day that are tailored towards your abilities. As well as the ability training, you all have fitness training and agility and other physical exercises to complete as well. You weren’t sure what you were training for, but you had been doing it all your life.
Yesterday you had been working on distance training. This was one exercise that was centred around your ability and focused on you trying to move the same object from a further distance each time. It was repetitive and mentally draining, but always gave you good results. Since that was yesterday, it meant that today you were working on your physical agility and assisting it with your abilities. It involved things such as jumping from narrow beams and using your telekinesis to help and support your movements.
You always began without using abilities, trying it by yourself so that you knew where you needed to direct your energy. You started on two long beams that were only around two feet off the floor, and you simply jumped between them, trying to keep your balance. You had to make your way down them while jumping from one to the other, speeding up each time you completed it.
Then, once the instructor watching you was satisfied, you were told to use your abilities. You now used telekinesis to manipulate the air around you to help you jump. It made you jump further and faster, also with safer landings. You continued with this for a short while before the instructor stopped you.
‘Right, now let’s actually put it to the test.’ They said, turning away from you.
You watched them, confused, bending over slightly with you hands on your knees as you tried to catch your breath. You had been hoping for a break so that you could rest briefly but you had no such luck. Your instructor turned around and pointed above them.
‘Up you go’ They said nonchalantly. You followed to where they were pointing and you let out a breath of disbelief. Above you, hanging from the ceiling, were thin beams that were swaying the the minute breeze cause by the movement.
‘You’ve gotta be kidding me.’ You thought. But you instructor simply looked at you expectantly and you knew that you weren’t getting out of this. All the other boys were drawing to a close with their exercises, which didn’t go unnoticed by your instructor, so they decided to make a small change to their plan.
‘You get through this once, and then we’re done for the day. Okay?’ They said, nodding with a smile that was anything but friendly.
You took a deep breath and climbed the stairs to the side of the room. On the way up you looked down and watched as Jisung finished his final exercise, meaning that all the boys were officially done. You reached the top and looked out in front of you.
The beams were much thinner than those you had been working on below, and, not to mention, the ropes holding them up looked suspiciously frail. They creaked as they moved and the wooden beams swayed gently in front of you. You knew that you weren’t getting out of here without completing this task, so you jumped.
The first jump was easy. It wasn’t even half a meter long and your telekineses helped you to keep the beam steady. You took careful steps, wincing every time the beam creaked underneath your weight. The ropes groaned as you moved but you kept going, knowing that slowing down would be more dangerous.
You cleared the second jump again, with a little more effort required, but you couldn’t quite figure out why it was more difficult. You made you way across this one swiftly, keeping you steps as light as possible due to the trembling ropes. The last thing you wanted was to fall now. It wasn’t until you reached the third jump that you realised why it was getting harder.
The jumps were getting bigger.
You swallowed, risking a look down and seeing the seven boys watching you carefully. You took a shaky breath, keeping your eyes on them as you saw Jeno give you a nod of encouragement. You nodded back and lifted your head, determined to finish this. You focused your mind on using the air around you and pictured pushing the particles together to form a barrier. You jumped forward and used that barrier to lift you slightly higher. You let out a sigh of relief when you cleared the distance, but you relaxed too early as you hadn’t taken into account the weight of you landing.
The ropes creaked dangerously loudly and you watched in fear as they began to fray. You knew you had to finish this quickly, or else you would be taking the quick way down. You took step after step, walking as fast as you possibly could to reach the second to last jump. You lifted off again, this time with less preparation due to you worry of the beam snapping, and you almost didn’t make it. You landed, roughly on the edge of the beam, holding onto it desperately in an attempt to pull yourself up.
You could hear the worried intakes of breath from the boys below you, but they didn’t say a thing. They weren’t allowed to. Interfering with another subject’s training had painful repercussions.
‘Come on y/n.’ You heard Jaemin’s voice echo through your head. You spared a look down to find him looking at you intently. You realised that he must be using his abilities to speak with you telepathically. You didn’t know he could do that. ‘Pull yourself up. You can do this.’
You forced yourself to focus, using your ability to help your legs up and you got onto the beam. You had just straightened up when it started to shake, the ropes of the verge of breaking.
‘Run!’ Jaemin’s voice shattered your dazed mind and you took off. One foot in front of the other, just trying to reach the end. You only had two jumps left to make, one to the final beam and one to the solid platform at the end with the stairs to take you back down to the safety of the ground.
You launched off the beam and onto the final one, the impact of your landing causing the ropes to tremble. You began to run and they properly gave out. You felt the beam beneath you begin to give way and you placed a final foot as close to the edge as you could, and leaped.
You used your ability the best you could, but you could tell that you weren’t going to make it. Then you felt a sudden gust of air push you up slightly, allowing you to just clear the distance and land in a heap, safely on the other side.
You lay there on the ground for a second, catching your breath. The instructor’s voice echoed around the training room.
‘Head back to your cells! We’re done for the day!’
---
You and Jeno were making your way back to your cell after dinner. The events of the training room hadn’t left your mind. That final gust of air had saved you. And you knew that it had to have come from Jeno. No one else could do that.
‘Hey Jeno?’ You asked, keeping your eyes on the floor as you walked.
He hummed in response.
‘Thank you for earlier. I don’t know what I would have done without you.’ You said honestly.
He stopped you walking, forcing you to look at him.
‘You don’t ever need to thank me. I’ve got your back and you’ve got mine. No matter what, we’re always gonna protect each other yeah?’
You nodded, a smile etching its way onto your face.
‘Yeah.’
You kept walking, turning the corner into your corridor that your cell was near the other end of. On the way to your cell, you passed the lab with its door open. You looked into it as you passed and stopped in your tracks. Donghyuck was on the operating table they had in the middle of the room, being restrained by two guards as he whimpered and resisted. You watched as they clamped metal restraints over his wrists and ankles, keeping him in place. A doctor began to approach him with a scalpel in his hand when the two of you were noticed. The doctor gestured towards the guard who reach forward and slammed the door shut, the lock clicking afterwards.
You and Jeno shared a sad look. The familiar whirring noise of the doctor’s instruments radiated through the door and you winced. You both recognised that sound and knew what Donghyuck was about to be put though. Jeno’s arm came up to your back to begin to guide you back to your shared cell. You accepted and walked with him. You knew that there was nothing you could do.
You hadn’t even got halfway down the corridor before Donghyuck began to scream.
---
9 days had passed since your last lab visit, meaning that you would be back in there tonight. And you were. You hadn’t even finished eating when the guards came to collect you. The other boys watched you sadly as you were escorted away.
You lay down on the operating table waiting for them to proceed. You felt the two guards approach you and you instinctively began to draw yourself away.
‘Strap her down. We don’t have time for this.’ The doctor instructed, frustration already present in his tone.
The guard stepped towards you again, grabbing your hands and pushed them down onto the table you were lying at. He ignored your begs and pleads to let you go and, instead, clamped the metal restraints down over your wrists. He repeated this process with your feet, effectively locking you in place.
You struggled against the cuffs with all you might but couldn’t budge one bit. You were used to being cuffed at your wrists and ankles, but it was when the guard approached you with a large belt, strapping your stomach to the table, that you really began to freak out. Your whole body thrashed from side to side as you tried to break free, but eventually, you found yourself unable to move.
The doctor leaned forward and pushed the guard out of the way. You noticed that, for the first time, there were three doctors preparing to work on you, rather than the normal one. This, and the intense measures that they went to to ensure that you couldn’t move, caused your fear to shoot through the roof.
‘The new procedure today Doc?’ One of the younger doctors asked.
‘Yes. We should be able to get some good data.’ The doctor leaning over you answered.
You whimpered slightly, terrified of what was about to happen. The doctor leaned further over you, adjusting the scalpel in his hand. You tried to move away from it, but you had no power. The other two doctors held you head and chest, exposing you neck.
You felt the small knife make a long incision on the back of your neck and you couldn’t stop the scream that ripped from your throat. Something was on this knife that was making it unbelievably painful.
‘Don’t panic, she’s just reacting to the acid that’s on the tools.’ The first doctor’s voice cut through.
Acid.
Whatever was happening to you, it was going to be the most painful experience of your life.
And it was.
You screamed and thrashed and sobbed, trying everything you could to escape the merciless torture that was being inflicted upon you. You were cut in areas, injected, and hit with other objects. The doctors measured you reactions to each of these and took notes on how your body reacted.
You eventually transcended the level of pain, you body and mind too broken for you to register the full extent of what you were going through. You couldn’t even scream anymore, your lungs and vocal cords exhausted from the amount you’d used them in the previous hours.
‘Ok that’s enough.’ You heard a voice say. You tried to pry your eyes open to see who was speaking, but you couldn’t move. You could barely even focus on the words that were being said.
‘It’s not your job to tell us what to do.’ You recognised the main doctor’s voice.
The previous voice replied again. ‘It’s my job to keep them alive. Now stop.’
You managed to pry open your eyes and noticed a guard standing in front of the doctor, staring him down. You could’t process what was going on. The guards never stood up for you.
However, something in the guard’s words made the doctor turn back towards you, and when he saw the state that you were in, he swore.
‘Fuck.’ The words left his mouth softly and he suddenly began to rummage through the drawers. ‘Save the data, we need to eradicate this experience. She couldn’t take as much as we thought she could.’
The younger doctor’s voice piped up, a sentence that sent a chill down your spine. ‘We could try it on subject A3. The higher levels of speed mean that he heals faster, we would probably get further on him.’
‘Good idea.’ The first doctor replied.
Subject A3... Mark.
‘Now this is going to wake her up for about thirty seconds before knocking her out again. But she still isn’t going to have control over her limbs so you need to get her back to her cell, understand?’
You assumed the doctor was talking to the guard, but your eyes had closed again. The weight of your eyelids being too much to hold open in your current state. You tried to protest as the doctor tiled your head to the side, but all that came out was a choked whine. You hissed as the needle pierced your skin and something was injected into you.
You head spun violently as your body registered the new drug and you felt as though you were going to throw up. Your eye shot open as you gulped for air, your newly freed arms coming up to scratch at you throat.
Not even two seconds later, your entire body was numb. You couldn’t move, stand or pick yourself up even if you wanted to. The guard approached you, holding one of your arms over his shoulder and supporting your waist with the other. He lifted you up and walked you out of the door. Until the doctor’s voice caused a sudden stop to his movements
‘Ten? Not a word of this to anyone.’
The guard, Ten, didn’t move, didn’t even turn back to look at the doctor, but he didn’t need to in order to understand the threat. He made his way down the corridor, swearing as you slipped slightly from his grip. You watched the floor begin to spin under you feet as you were carried back to your cell. He finally reached the door, swiping his key card in the lock and kicking it open before throwing you back inside.
Your limp body hit the floor with a hard thud and the door closed behind the guard as he exited, locking with a click and a buzz. The ceiling spun above you and you couldn’t move to pull yourself up from the floor to get to your bed. You just registered Jeno’s worried face coming into your vision when it all went black.
---
You woke to the same high pitched beeping you did every morning. This time, however, to the view of Jeno’s head on your bed too. He had fallen asleep on the floor, watching over you throughout the night.
He stirred slightly, groaning as the beeping woke him from his slumber. He lifted his head, turning suddenly to look at you, his eyes widening when he saw that you were awake.
‘Y/n? Are you okay?’ He asked, concern etched on his features.
You opened your mouth to speak, but all that came out was a hoarse croak. You throat burned from the previous night and you winced at the pain. Jeno stood quickly, running into the bathroom to get you a glass of water. He came back and handed it you, watching as you gulped it down.
‘What did they do to you?’ He whispered, watching you form sadly.
‘I don’t know.’ You whispered back, unable to speak any louder.
The door buzzed open and a guard walked in, the number 10 easily visible on the strap on his upper right arm. He placed the new grey jumpsuits on the end of your bed began to walk away again. The guard stopped in the doorway and turned back.
‘The rose room has been cancelled.’ He informed the two of you. ‘Instead, you train in the morning, then go for lunch and have a free afternoon. Get out of bed y/n.’
Both yours and Jeno’s heads shot towards the guard as he left, the two of you frozen in shock as the door locked shut.
‘Tell me you heard that too.’ Jeno breathed.
‘Yep.’ You confirmed, your brain running at a mile a minute.
‘They never address us by our names.’ He stated, and he was right. You were always addressed by subject number, nothing else.
‘Yep.’ You repeated.
‘Only by subject number.’
‘Yep.’
‘What do you think it means?’ He asked, turning away from the shut door to look at you.
‘I don’t know.’ You shook your head, your eyes still locked on the cell door that was staring back at you.
‘Why was it only you?’ Jeno wondered aloud.
‘I don’t know.’ You knew about as much as Jeno did so you honestly had no idea why he was asking you all these questions.
‘How do you feel about it?’
You paused, not knowing how to answer the final question that, for some reason, made your blood run cold. You turned to look at him.
‘... I don’t know.’
---
You and Jeno were the last to enter the training room. You both scanned the guards surrounding you all, but when none of them had the number 10 on their armour, you shared a disappointed look. Before arriving, you had decided to keep a look out for that guard, to see if there was something that separated him from the others. Something you could notice that would give you a reason as to why he used your name rather than your number. Once the eight of you were in the room, the guards turned and left, shutting the door behind them. You all stared at the shut door, then at each other. You had never been left alone in the training room before. Never.
What was wrong with this day?
You walked towards the physical agility station, confused when you saw Chenle standing there, preparing for his training. You weren’t sure why he was there when it was your turn for that station. He turned around when you approached him, his confused features mirroring your own.
‘Umm I’m meant to be on this station today.’ You informed him, not quite understanding why he didn’t already know that. You had all been on this training timetable for as long as you could remember.
‘No you’re not.’ Chenle replied bluntly, staring at you as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
‘Yeah, I am.’ Chenle shook his head at you but you persisted. ‘Yes, I am! I was on distance training yesterday so now I’m on this. Aren’t you on strength and conditioning?’ You stared at him expectantly but instead watched as worry spread across his face.
‘Y/n...’ His voice was low, quite as if he wasn’t sure how to tell you this. ‘You did physical agility three days ago.’
‘What do you mean?’ You asked, unable to quite wrap your mind around this new piece of information.
‘I mean you did this activity three days ago.’ He repeated, his eyes widening with worry. ‘Don’t you remember?’
You shook your head and took a shaky step back. By this point the other boys had begun to notice the conversation between the two of you, prompting them to come over and see what was wrong. Jeno placed a hand on your should, having just overheard the last two sentences.
‘Y/n, what do you remember?’ He looked you straight in the eyes.
‘I don’t know.’ You repeated the words you had already said multiple times today, fear and frustration growing.
‘What did they do to you in that lab?’ He questioned, desperate for an answer.
‘I don’t know.’ You could hear the emotion creeping out in your voice.
‘Think!’ Jeno said, shaking you by the shoulders gently.
‘I don’t know! I don’t remember!’ You raised your voice, your body beginning to shake. All of the other boys stared at you in horror and you fell into Jeno’s hug whispering a scared. ‘Why don’t I remember?’
It was Jaemin’s voice that spoke the words you were all thinking but too afraid to say, scared of what it would mean for you all.
‘They wiped her memory.’
---
You eyes opened to the harsh light above you as the same rhythmic beeping woke you up. Even though you have woke up to the same noise for as long as you can remember, it still drives you insane to listen to it.
You rolled over, pulling your pillow over your head as you waited for it to stop. You felt a weight on the side of your bed and hands gently pull the pillow off your face. You opened one eye to be greeted with Jeno’s smiling face. You couldn’t help but let out a smile at the little crescents his eyes made each time he smiled. It always managed to make you happy as well.
You rolled onto your back and shut your eyes again, pulling one arm over to help block out some of the light that was still making its way though. Jeno’s hand came up to rub your arm comfortingly.
‘How are you feeling today?’ He asked, his voice slightly raspy from just having woken up.
You groaned out as a response
‘I don’t know. Better, I guess. We talked about it a lot yesterday which helped. At least now we know how much I’m missing.’
You removed your arm from your eyes and looked at the boy above you who was nodding.
‘Three days, including an entire visit to the lab. We have to assume that something happened that they didn’t want you to remember.’ He mused, the logical and rational side of his brain showing.
‘But what?’ You wondered. It annoyed you so much that the only person who had these answers was you, and you couldn’t even remember them.
The cell door buzzed and a guard walked in. You lifted your head to get a look at his number. 23. No luck. He threw the jumpsuits onto the end of your bed and then proceeded to stare at the two of you.
‘Stay apart. No need to be that close.’ He ordered, but neither of you moved. ‘I said, keep distance between the two of you. Stay on your own bed!’
He took a step forward, as if he was preparing to pull the two of you away from each other, but you acted faster. You threw your hand out, making a pushing motion and watched as the guard flew out of the door, landing on his bum a few feet back.
He stumbled to his feet, attempting to stammer out an insult or some other kind of attempt to show off his power, but instead just settled on slamming the door shut.
The lock buzzed and Jeno turned to look at you, shock and amazement clear on his face.
‘How did you manage that? That took almost no effort.’
You sighed.
‘I’m tired.’
Jeno’s brows furrowed at your reply.
‘But you’re like me in that being tired means it takes more effort and focus to use your abilities.’
You nodded at him as you explained yourself.
‘Yep. But I’m not that kind of tired. I mean I am, but most of all, I’m tired of this. This life, whatever it is. I’m tired of being treated like I’m a monster, I’m tired of the experiments, I’m tired of the training, I’m fed up with being here.’ You turned your head to look at Jeno after your confession and watched as he nodded with a sad but understanding smile on his face.
‘Yeah... me too.’ He admitted, his voice soft.
‘I know.’ You whispered.
---
You exited your cell, ready for the day and saw guards lined up by your door. You and Jeno shared a confused look, wondering where the doctor’s were, when the guard next to Jisung began to speak.
‘From now on, we’ll be administering your serum.’ He then turned to the boy in front of him. ‘Arm out.’
The guard by your door did the same, grabbing your wrist and exposing your inner elbow. He placed the syringe just below the joint and pressed down. You winced at the feeling that you were unfortunately used to and stepped away so that Jeno could get his. You then waited for the usual symptoms to hit you, watching as your friends turned into the comatose shells of themselves that you were expecting.
But they never came.
Your mind remained as sharp and aware as ever, and you could feel every thought that ran through your mind. You turned back to look at Jeno and, one look at his eyes told you that he was feeling the exact same thing. Your eyes flickered towards the guard who administered your serum and you focused on the number on his arm.
10.
Jeno followed your gaze and looked back at you with wide eyes. The guard began to walk towards the two of you and, out of the corner of your eye, you could see the other guards doing the same so you didn’t think too much of it. Until he began to speak.
‘You’re heading to the rose room.’ He then made sure to look the both of you directly in the eyes. ‘And you’re under the usual effects of the serum.’
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving both you and Jeno alone. You decided to just do what he said and head to the rose room, but you made sure to act as though you were feeling the usual effects of the serum. You moved lethargically, dragging your feet and keeping your eyes ahead at all times. Jeno did the same, both of you faking it the entire way there, while wondering what the hell was going on.
---
You stood at your usual position in the rose room, gathering ingredients and putting them on the conveyer belt like you always did. When you entered the room it was hard not to react to anything. The range of brilliant colours blinded you as you entered and it took everything in you not to just stop and stare.
You noticed that, out of the all the subjects there, that you guessed would be around one hundred, it only looked like your group was under the serum. The rest of them seemed very much aware of their surroundings and what they were doing. When gathering the ingredients you took a quick look at what it was exactly that you were gathering. When you got a glimpse of the label, your heart stopped. These were the same bottles that were found in the lab. It wasn’t until you managed to look over every different object obtained from the genetically modified roses, that you realised you had spent your entire life gathering the solutions and serums that the doctors had used to perform experiments on you.
You had been assisting in your own torture.
You found yourself standing at your final station, a girl you didn’t recognise on your right and the space to your left was empty. The guards began to march between you all, weaving their way through the working subjects. They stopped next to you, so close that you could feel their breath on the back on your neck.
The hairs on your arm began to rise and goosebumps began to form at the close contact. You prayed that they couldn’t see your reaction, knowing that it would give away your state. But they weren’t there for you.
The guards grabbed the girl on your right by her shoulders and pulled her backwards. They held her underneath each arm and dragged her out of the rose room. Her screams, struggles and pleas for help went completely ignored as she was eventually pulled out of sight. No one took any notice, not single subject seemed to realise what had just happened. You could her your heart pounding louder than every before, the girl’s screams still echoing in your head, haunting your thoughts.
A sudden bell sounded through the rose room, one that you recognised as signalling the end of the session. You turned in your spot, waiting for your turn to leave as all the subjects filed out of the rose room in orderly fashion. The fact that the girl was taken at the end of the session made you nervous. Is that what the guards were doing when walking through you all? Looking for their next target? And how long it would be until it was one of you?
---
After the longest day yet, you and Jeno were back in your cell. The door locked behind you and you both turned and stared at each other in disbelief.
‘How much have we missed by being under the serum?’ You asked.
‘They must only put us under it so that they can get away with doing all those things, it’s not to protect us at all.’ Jeno stated and you nodded in agreement.
‘And did you see what we were gathering in the rose room?’ You brought up, watching as Jeno’s eyes widened in realisation.
‘The solutions they use in the lab! And what did they do to that poor girl?’ His voice softened as you both thought about the subject being dragged away from you all, begging for help.
‘I didn’t even know her name.’ You muttered.
‘Me neither.’ Jeno admitted. ‘But did you notice, I don’t think anyone other than our group was under the simulation.’
‘Yes!’ You agreed. ‘I saw that too. Everyone else seemed perfectly aware of what was going on.’
Jeno nodded and you sat down on your bed, your brain feeling as though it was about to explode.
‘Huh...’ You mumbled, a sudden thought crossing your mind.
Jeno turned his head towards you, his eyebrows furrowing at the confused look on your face.
‘What?’ He questioned.
‘It’s just... the other subjects were definitely awake. It was obvious that they hadn’t been given the serum that we normally are. So, why didn’t they react to that girl being taken by the guards.’ You pondered.
Jeno thought for a moment, sitting down on his own bed opposite you.
‘Maybe they’re used to it.’ He suggested. ‘We don’t know how often that happens, it could be considered normal.’
‘I guess.’ You conceded. ‘But they didn’t react at all... I mean, even if you’re used to it, she was screaming for her life and they didn’t even spare a glance. It’s strange not to take any notice of that. I mean, we only didn’t because we had to act as if we were still under the serum.’
Jeno didn’t reply for a second, his eyes fixated on his hands that fiddling were in his lap.
‘Why do you think we weren’t given the serum?’ He asked, looking up at you.
You opened your mouth to tell him that you had no idea, but the lock on your door buzzed, and it swung open. Four guards stalked in causing you and Jeno to both stand out of shock. You were never disturbed at this time unless it was to take you to the lab, and it was Renjun’s night tonight.
Two of the guards approached you, the other two heading towards Jeno.
‘What’s happening?’ Jeno asked, but he was ignored.
Not a words was uttered by the guards as they grabbed you by the arms and began to drag you out of your cell. You began to kick and scream, struggling with all your might to break free.
‘Jesus, why can’t she go quiet?’ One of the guards complained, earning a groan from his partner.
‘Just get her to the lab and stop complaining.’
The lab...
You began to throw yourself about, desperate to not go back there, whatever the cost. You had no idea what it was that was making you react this violently, but your instincts kicked it and told you to fight with all your might.
Upon seeing you reaction, Jeno tried to reach for you, but he was stopped by the other two guards who grabbed him by the shoulders and forced him back. They held onto him tight as he tried to break through them.
‘Y/n! Let go!’ He yelled out, trying to land a hit on one of the guards.
‘Jeno!’ You called back, kicking out with your feet in an attempt to throw the guards off balance.
‘Y/N!’ You could hear Jeno crying out for you as you were pulled out of the cell completely. You just managed to see the two guards holding Jeno throw him to the floor before they turned to leave. They locked the door, with you on the outside and Jeno on the inside.
You continued to be dragged away, crying out for dear life, begging someone to come and help you. But no one did. They all acted as if you didn’t exist. You couldn’t help but wonder if this was how that girl had felt earlier. Screaming and pleading for someone to save her, only to be treated like a ghost.
Jeno’s screams for you could still be heard halfway down the corridor, along with the heavy banging against the door from him throwing his body against it in an attempt to get out.
As you approached the lab door, every morsel of your being was telling you, screaming at you, not to go back in there. But you didn’t have a choice. The two guards threw you into the lab, one of them following you in, before the door was locked shut. You were stuck in the lab with one doctor and one guard, and you were terrified.
You banged on the door, trying desperately to get out. You were so frantic that you couldn’t hear the doctor trying to get your attention. It was only when you realised that they were making no effort to restrain or cuff you that you managed to calm yourself down slightly.
You turned away from the door, the tear tracks down your face prominent. You weren’t sure when you had started crying, the utter terror you had been feeling having taken over your entire body.
The doctor took one step towards you, holding up his hands as if in surrender, but also to show you that he wasn’t holding anything.
‘Well done y/n. Just try to keep yourself calm okay? Breathe... Can you do that for me?’
You didn’t reply to him, simply staring at the man that seemed to act as if he cared for you. These doctors didn’t care for you. Normally you would be handcuffed to the table, screaming in pain by now, but for some reason you were standing upright being told to breathe.
The guard to your left took off his helmet, causing you to take a breath of surprise. You had never seen a guard with his helmet off before, much less one this close. You gawked as the man smiled at you, a genuine, comforting smile that for some reason made you feel safe.
The doctor began to speak again.
‘Y/n, we’re not going to hurt you. In fact, we’re trying to help you. My name’s Doyoung and this is Ten.’
‘Uh huh...’ You stuttered, not really managing to get any real words out.
‘Ten administered your serum this morning, the serum I created for you. And you probably don’t need me to tell you that it was a fake.’
You nodded at the doctor’s words, still trying to calm your racing heart.
‘We did that because there’s a lot that you don’t know about this place that we think you should.’ The doctor, Doyoung, then turned to the guard. ‘Ten can you get her some water?’
The guard, who you assumed went by his uniform number 10, nodded before standing up.
‘Do you want to sit down?’ Doyoung asked, pulling up a chair for you.
You nodded, gladly taking the chair and very grateful that he didn’t ask you to sit on the table. Ten offered you a glass of water, which you took with a small smile as thanks. You took a sip, relishing in how the cool liquid managed to calm your mind.
‘Ok, keep going.’ You said and Doyoung’s eyebrows raised in surprise. ‘Why are you surprised? Like you said, after what I’ve seen today, I’m not so sure that this place is really meant to keep me safe.’
Doyoung sighed and looked down sadly.
‘It isn’t. This place isn’t designed to keep you safe, but rather to keep you in. It’s a prison. I know that to you it seems as though there are hundreds of people here, but there aren’t. Only the eight of you on your floor are being kept here.’
You let out a deep breath you didn’t even know you were holding.
‘A prison...’ You whispered. ‘Only for the eight of us?’
Doyoung nodded and Ten placed a comforting hand on your shoulder.
‘Why us?’ You asked.
Doyoung and Ten shared a look, making you dread what was coming next.
‘Please, just tell me what I am.’ You begged, so tired of having spent your entire life not knowing the most basic thing about you.
‘Doyoung, she needs to know.’ Ten said, as Doyoung sighed.
‘Yeah, I know. There’s no easy way to tell you this y/n. The world fell into chaos slightly. Political leaders began to clash more and more with each other and, before we knew it, we were on the brink of a third world war. One that, this time, really would involve the whole world, and with the creation of nuclear weapons, our government want something that would set us apart from everywhere else. He decided to turn his intentions to modifying humans. He exposed children to certain chemicals and levels of radiation when they were young to see if anything had an affect on them. Eventually he found success, but at a very large cost.’
‘How large?’ You whispered, scared of the answer. Ten spoke up this time, making you turn your head towards him.
‘He tested on over three hundred thousand children. You eight are the only survivors.’
You didn’t know how to react. Eight out of three hundred thousand. Who would be willing to pay that high of a price?
‘What does that make me? A weapon?’ You asked, your voice quiet, almost inaudible.
‘You were human, at some point. Now, we’re not sure. I would believe the closest definition is a mutant of some kind, but y/n, you have to remember that this doesn’t define you.’ Doyoung leaned forward but you shook your head.
‘I’m not human, I’m a mutant, a weapon, an experiment. I’m nothing more than an experiment, a toy for you to play with in your lab. That why I’m prisoner here. I’m a monster.’ You were spiralling, caught up in a mess of reality and new information, you couldn’t control where your mind was heading.
‘Y/n, Doyoung is right, this doesn’t define who you are.’ Ten tried to reassure you but you whirled on him.
‘Doesn’t define me? Yes it does! It literally is what I am, how can you say it doesn’t define me?’ You accused.
‘Because you’re more than that! Beneath all that’s been done to you, all we’ve done to you, we know that you’re people. You are human, you think and feel as we do, you love like we do, you die like we do. And who gives a damn about what made you what you are. It’s who you are that matters.’ Doyoung stood up during his small speech. He somehow managed to verbally slap some sense into you, allowing you a brief moment to calm your mind.
‘The others need to know.’ You blurted, your thoughts suddenly drifting back to Jeno.
‘Yes, and we will tell them.’ Ten reassured.
‘Tonight.’ You insisted. ‘They’ve been through exactly the same thing I have. Why should I get to know the truth and they shouldn’t?’
Both Doyoung and Ten looked at each other, having short, silent conversation before Doyoung sighed and agreed with you.
‘Ok, tonight. Ten go and fetch them from their cells. The doors are locked so the corridors should be empty of guards.’
Ten nodded and left the room quickly, stopping briefly to scan the hallways and only continuing once he knew it was clear. The door automatically shut softly behind him. You suddenly remembered something else Doyoung said, causing you to turn back to face him once more.
‘What changed your mind?’ You asked, only receiving a very confused look from the doctor in return. ‘You’ve worked on us for years, as a trainee then as a real doctor. You haven’t had this position long, so why are you risking everything you’ve worked for? When did you start to think of us as humans?’
A guilty look crossed Doyoung’s face.
‘I’ve done some terrible things to you, to all of you, over the years, and I cannot apologise enough for that. I always thought... that we were doing the right thing, the thing that should be done. We needed something to set us apart or, before we knew it, we would be a speck of dust on the ground, bombed within an inch of our lives. But that was over ten years ago, and you guys haven’t left the facility once. I kept telling myself that it would be worth it, that this was all being done for a reason, and that you would understand that. But then I was in the lab and something made me look at a subject differently. The way he acted, it was something so vulnerable, so human, that it changed my perspective completely.’
‘What was it?’ You asked, immersed in Doyoung emotional words.
‘It was Jeno. He was undergoing a procedure that had been done a thousand times before, but the head doctor that day decided to make some changes. I don’t know what he did, but Jeno started to scream, and not just shout out in a bit of pain, I mean, properly scream. I could hear the strain on his vocal cords and he started crying out and begging for help like I had never heard anyone beg before and he kept calling for the same person over and over.’
‘Who did he call out for?’ Your voice was shaking slightly, your emotions running high at the thought of what could have made Jeno scream out like that.
Doyoung looked at you, complete sincerity in his eyes.
‘You. He called out for you.’
Before you could reply, or even process this information, the door to the lab burst open and the other boys all piled in. Jeno spotted you, alive, awake and well and made his way towards you immediately. He pulled you in for a tight hug as soon as he reached you, wrapping his arms securely around your waist.
‘Oh thank god, you’re okay.’ He whispered. He pulled back and brushed the hair out of your face, holding your cheeks in his hands while he searched your face for any sign of pain. ‘Are you okay?’
You nodded in response. ‘Yeah I’m okay. But you guys need to hear this.’
You watched as Doyoung and Ten explained to the other boys what they had just told you. You watched as they went through exactly the same reactions that you did. And you watched as each of them managed to process this information in their own way.
‘There’s only one thing left to tell you all.’ Ten said, watching as eight pairs of scared eyes looked up at him. ‘We’re going to break you out.’
‘I’m sorry, you’re gonna what?’ Renjun asked, voicing the shock you were all feeling.
‘You’re more than just subjects, more than just experiments, you’re people. And you don’t get the chance to just be people when you’re trapped here. So tomorrow, we’re gonna break you out.’ Doyoung explained.
‘Tomorrow?’ Chenle questioned and both Doyoung and Ten nodded in confirmation.
‘What’s happens after that? Where do we go next? All we’ve known is this facility, so what will we do outside of it?’ Jaemin piped up, thankfully thinking ahead for all of you.
‘I already have a truck ready for us to escape in tomorrow, from there we will drive out of range so that they can’t detect us. Doyoung and I know some people who are willing to help. We’ll stay with them for a while and then, eventually, reintegrate the eight of you back into the world, and allow you to lie the normal life you’ve always been deprived of.’ Ten spoke. You sat there silently, just taking all this information in. You were getting out, and not only that, but also going to get the life you never thought you would ever be able to. You weren’t sure what life would be like on the outside, but as long as you had the guys there, you knew you would be okay.
You felt a pair of eyes on you and turned your head, only to catch Jeno staring at you with an unreadable expression on his face. He looked away as soon as you noticed him, clearing his throat before asking one last question.
‘So... how are we getting out of here?’
---
You lay in bed that night, unable to sleep. You knew that you could probably do with a good rest, but your mind was so active that it was impossible. You couldn’t tell if Jeno was awake too, worried that if he wasn’t you might wake him from your constant moving. Doyoung revelation about him calling out for you when in pain was plaguing your mind as well. You had often found yourself thinking of Jeno when you were undergoing procedures in the lab, but you had always dismissed it as wondering what state you would be in when you were returned to your roommate. Was it possible that it was something more? You can’t deny that you’ve felt something for Jeno, he was kind, compassionate, empathetic and so damn loyal to you.
‘Y/n?’ Jeno’s voice disrupted your thoughts, causing you to jump out of your skin.
You swallowed before replying.
‘Yeah?’
‘Oh you’re awake too.’ He mumbled.
‘Yeah... I can’t sleep.’ You admitted.
‘Me neither.’
The conversation stopped for a minute and, for the first time since you met him, you didn’t know what to say to Jeno. You felt colder in your bed than you ever had before and you wanted nothing more than to crawl into his and fall asleep there.
‘Y/n?’ Jeno spoke again, much softer this time.
‘Yeah?’ You whispered back.
‘I’m cold...’ He confessed and you could almost hear the blush that you knew would be dusting his cheeks.
Before you let the surge of courage you felt pass, you climbed out of your bed and padded softly over to his.
‘Move over.’ You instructed, gently tapping his side.
He did just as you told him too, moving himself to the edge so that you could climb in. You lay facing each other for a while and you found yourself unable to tear your gaze away from his eyes. He lifted up a hand to move a stray piece of hair out of your face and sighed.
You shut your eyes slowly, hoping that by being closer to him you would be able to get some rest. The only problem was, the beds that you slept on were not the largest and could only really fit one person. You found yourself almost pressed up against his chest and that made it very hard for you to calm your rapidly beating heart.
‘Hold on, bear with me for a second.’ Jeno mumbled as he moved himself around slightly. You squeaked in surprise when you felt his hands come to waist, pulling you halfway onto his chest as he settled down on his back.
‘Is this ok?’ He asked hesitantly, and you nodded in response.
Even though you were practically lying on top of him, you couldn’t deny that this position was much more comfortable. From here you could hear his heartbeat and you allowed the consistent rhythm of it to help lull you to sleep.
You wrapped your arm around his waist, the other coming up to rest on his chest as his arms found their way around your shoulder and stroking your hair. You closed your eyes and felt yourself finally drift off to sleep, almost missing the soft sentence Jeno whispered into your hair.
‘I don’t know what will happen once we get out of here, but please just... don’t leave me. I think I need you more than you know.’
---
For as long as you can remember, you have woken up to the sound of the high pitched repetitive beep of the alarm. Not today.
You were quickly pulled out of your sleep to the sound of alarms blaring, red lights flashing and shouting in the corridor. You and Jeno shared a sleepy but scared look before quickly climbing out of bed. You bit your lip slightly in embarrassment as you remembered the position that the two of you slept in last night. Jeno approached your door and pushed on it gently. The door swung open and the two of you stared in disbelief.
You followed him out into the corridor and found yourself standing in the middle of the chaos. Guards and doctors were running up and down the corridors shouting commands and arguing with each other while the eight of you all stood in your doorways, confused to high heavens.
‘Grab them now!’ You heard one of the doctors yell as you were finally noticed. ‘They’re not getting away.’
You saw a guard lunge for Chenle, who quickly turned into a fly and disappeared from sight. Three other guards ran towards you and Jeno, their intentions obvious and the two of you immediately began to move. Jeno threw up a gust of air, knocking them off their feet, while you pulled doors open and moved their legs so that they were constantly tripping over.
‘Guys we have to get out of here now!’ Mark yelled over the noise.
He suddenly appeared from nowhere, making you jump.
‘They somehow found out about our plan, either we leave now, or we’re never getting out.’ And with that he was gone, disappearing at the speed of light.
Jeno opened up a hailstorm on the guard in front of him, his efforts useless against the tough armour that they were wearing. You pulled out a metal drawer from one of the cells and used your telekinesis to ram in into the guard’s leg.
He crumpled where he stood, his head landing hard on the concrete. Your eyes went wide as he lay there unmoving for a second, until he let out a breath and groaned in pain. Jeno’s grabbed your arm and shouted something at you that you didn’t quite catch, you eye still fixated on the guard in front of you.
You really were dangerous. You had hurt someone. And it had taken very little effort from you to do so. What could you do if you really wanted to hurt someone? How badly could you hurt someone without meaning to?
You lost focus on your surroundings, Jeno’s sudden pull on your arm causing you to lose balance. You managed not to fall over, but it slowed you down. You forced yourself to focus, to think rationally, to prioritise leaving and then you could figure out the extent of your abilities.
But you were too late. One of the doctors noticed your stumble and grabbed a taser from a fallen guard. They quickly pushed it into, electrocuting you where you stood. You mouth fell open as a scream tore out of it and your body collapsed onto the ground.
Your mind went fuzzy, everything around you slowing down as you tried to take it all in. You vaguely registered Jeno screaming out for you as you lay on the cold floor. You lifted your eyes and stared into the open door in front of you. It took you a few seconds to realise that you were staring into the lab. You watched as one of the guards cornered Doyoung, who stood with his hands up trying to explain something. They didn’t listen however, and you watched as the guard pulled a gun out of nowhere and squeezed the trigger.
Doyoung doubled over, a red patch forming on his stomach. His back hit the counter behind him and he sank down towards the ground, the pain evident on his face. The red mark on his shirt was growing by the second until it covered half of his lower stomach. You found yourself staring into the dull, lifeless eyes of the one doctor here who had actually tried to look out for you.
Your eyes welled up with tears, blurring your vision. You barely felt the arms that hooked under your elbows and began to drag you down the corridor. The last things you registered before you blacked out were Jeno screaming for you, and Doyoung’s dead body.
---
‘God this kid is a pain.’
‘I know man, I don’t get why we have to be stuck here with her.’
‘Doyoung though? Hmmm, I didn’t see that betrayal coming.’
‘Really? Out of everyone, I’m least surprised that it was him. He always had the weakest stomach when it came to things like this.’
You heard the voices before you even realised that you were awake. The guards in your room were having a casual chat while they waited for you to wake up. Your head was pounding and your mouth tasted like pennies. You scrunched up your face in discomfort, trying to open your eyes but with little success.
‘Oh, look. I think she’s coming back...’
You groaned out slightly, your mind suddenly becoming aware of the pain your body was in. You forced your eyes open, regretting that choice as soon as you were blinded by the harsh white light of whatever room you were currently being kept in.
You blinked a couple of times, trying to adjust to your surroundings, before taking a quick look around. You definitely weren’t in your cell anymore. You found yourself chained to the wall, literally. There were heavy metal cuffs around your wrists, ankles, stomach and even your neck. Each of those cuffs were attached to a chain that was embedded into the wall behind you.
They had taken every measure possible to imprison you somewhere they knew you wouldn’t be able to escape from.
You lifted your head and found yourself staring at two guards, both with their helmets off. They looked at you with such patronising looks on their faces, but you couldn’t focus on them. Your eyes were trained on the cupboard behind them, an open cupboard that you could see was filled with guard uniforms.
One of the guards followed your line of sight and laughed.
‘You’re not in our cloak room, don’t worry sweet heart. You’re in the maximum security room at the end of the hall.’
Your blood ran cold at his revelation. No one who entered this room ever made it out alive. But then, that was before you learnt that there were only eight of you actually being held in this facility... You really had no idea what this meant for you.
‘Allow me to explain.’ The other guard took a step forwards. ‘Every time you get drugged and tiptoe off the the rose room to do your work, we walk in and grab a random person standing next to one of you and drag them back here. Now their job is to just scream and kick and draw as much attention to themselves as they can while everyone else ignores them. Once they get here do you know what they do? They get back into their guard uniform and go back to work. All those people you know, everyone in the rose room with you, all of them are one of us.’ He let out a laugh. ‘I can’t believe you were stupid enough to think that they were real subjects!’
The first guard joined in, enjoying taunting you when you were at your most vulnerable.
‘God you really are stupid aren’t you?’ He commented. ‘You thought you were getting out? You’re never going to get out of here. You’re simply going to be stuck here for the rest of your life.’
The other guard laughed again.
‘Yeah, you know that war you were made for. It’s not going to happen so you really aren’t ever getting out. You’re too scared to hurt one of us, how would you ever be useful in a war?’
‘God you’re such a waste of space. I can’t believe that out of the hundreds of thousands that went through the initial testing, she was one of the few to survive.’
‘Tell me about it. Why is she even in maximum security? She probably wouldn’t hurt a fly.’
The guards continued with their taunts, each one crueler than the last. You tried everything you could to block them out, but it was difficult. Especially when they were right, you had been useless. It’s because you were too scared to hurt a guard’s leg that all of you are stuck here forever. This is your fault.
‘No it isn’t.’ Jaemin’s voice echoed through your head, startling you. ‘Ignore them y/n. None of this is your fault, it’s theirs. Don’t forget who put you there in the first place. Now, listen to me, you need to get out of there. Now. I don’t care how you do it, but y/n, it’s time to go.’
The guards continued to taunt you, telling you how powerless you were and you started to feel your anger grow. Jaemin was right, these people did put you in here. They imprisoned you, tortured you and the people you care about. They put you through hours upon hours of pain, just to tell you that you weren’t good enough.
You pulled your hands closed into fists and focused your mind like you never have before. You channelled your anger into your being, thinking of everything you’ve lost, everything they’ve taken from you. A family, a normal life, the ability to just be human. You felt the power rumble from within you. It was like nothing you had ever felt before. It grew from your soul, feeding off your raw emotions, evolving and mutating as it made its way throughout your limbs. It finally reached your head and your opened your eyes. They were pure gold.
The guards stopped their conversation and stared at you in fear, completely at a loss as to what they should do.
You finally understood. You weren’t human. You were so much more than that. And it was time they learnt just how powerful you could be.
You threw your head back, and screamed.
You unleashed all the power within you as a sheer bolt of energy. The chains imprisoning you shattered, falling to the floor. The guards were throw backwards, both of them hitting the wall with a sickening crack, and your door was blown off its hinges. You stood and began to move, feeling every part and every being in the universe working with you and you knew, this is what true power felt like.
You had no idea how to come down from it, you were so taken over that you didn’t feel the hand that gently found its way into yours until you were being turned where you stood and found yourself looking into Jeno’s eyes.
‘Come back to me y/n.’ He whispered, pulling you into his chest and stroking your hair. You let go of all the anger you were feeling, choosing instead to ground yourself with the boy in front of you. ‘We have to go.’
‘I heard.’ You mumbled, pulling yourself away from him chest.
You ran through the corridor, gathering all the boys on the way. Jeno had managed to create a mini hurricane in his room, effectively blowing his way out of the cell he was in. Jisung quite literally just barrelled straight through his door, but he once again misjudged his strength and couldn’t stop himself. He kept going straight into the door on the opposite side of the corridor, luckily bursting it open it for Renjun.
It the situation weren’t so dire you probably would have fallen over laughing at the scene in front of you.
Chenle turned into a midge and flew through the key hole of his cell door, making you admire the boy’s talent to find a loophole in every scenario. Jaemin used his mind control to get the guard who was watching him to open the door for him. Also making the guard bow for him as he walked out as a finishing touch. You couldn’t help but smile at that. Jisung pulled off the doors of both Mark’s and Donghyuck’s cells and the eight of you ran.
You turned a corner and barrelled straight into a guard. All of you threw up your hands, ready to fight, until you saw that it was Ten. Instead of getting a punch in the face, Ten found himself with eight superhuman teens hugging him with all their might.
‘Ok, let’s do this later, the truck’s outside. Go!’
He pushed you all off his and pointed towards the door in front of you. You ran towards it, turning your head to the left as you passed the lab and not missing Doyoung’s body, still lying there on the floor. You swallowed back your tears, promising that you would mourn him properly later, and pushed forwards. You burst out of the doors, shocked beyond belief to find yourself in a lobby of some kind. Your entire life, you thought you had been in the sub basement section of a facility, but really you had been above ground the whole time.
You didn’t have time to marvel however, because, as soon as you were spotted, the alarms went off. They blared through the building and you took that as your cue to leave.
Jisung ran first, easily breaking the main doors open, despite their heavy lock, and the eight of you poured outside. You saw the truck that Ten had mentioned, the trademark number 10 a sign that it was yours. It was on the outside of the barbed wire fence that surrounded the facility. The fence was too high to climb so you took a deep breath and held your arms out. You pulled them apart, imaging a rip and watched as the fence tore in two.
You all sprinted through the fence and piled into the truck that was waiting for you. There was a fabric roof and some metal beams making the skeleton on the inside so you held onto that as you climbed in. Mark moved around to the front seat and you look out, waiting for Ten. You needed him to drive this truck as none of you could.
Ten finally appeared, running at full speed towards you.
‘Go!’ He screamed. ‘Just go!’
You wanted to shout back to him but you never got the chance to. The gunshot rang out loudly and Ten fell straight to the ground. He lay face down in the grass, not breathing, not moving a muscle.
He was dead.
‘Mark... Mark drive. We need to go.’ Donghyuck’s shaky voice tore you out of your trance. Mark moved himself so that he was in the driver’s seat and turned the key.
‘Ok, I can figure this out.’ He reassured himself.
‘Well can you do it now because we have some rather unfriendly company arriving in about thirty seconds. And you don’t want to know what they’ll do if they catch us.’ Donghyuck warned, making all your eyes widen in fear. When the boy who can see the future tells you that something is going to happen, you’ve learnt that the best thing to do would be to listen to him.
Mark moved the gear stick into ‘D’ and slammed his foot down on a random pedal. Luckily he seemed to get the right one because you all lurched forwards, speeding away from the facility. Mark’s super speed means that he has extremely fast reflexes, making it very useful for when he needs to learn a new skill. He reacted quickly to the movements of the car and it didn’t take long before you were smoothly driving away from the prison that was also happened to be the only home you’ve ever know.
Renjun shuffled in his seat, facing his body out the back of the truck and towards the facility. He lifted up his hands, turning his palms out before suddenly clenching them into fists. He then sat back down, his back hitting the seat as he let out a deep sigh.
‘Just a quick image of an empty field. It’ll throw them off the scent long enough for us to get out of here.’ He explained before leaning his head back and shutting his eyes.
You looked back at the large building that was disappearing rapidly into the distance and thought of Doyoung and Ten. The two who risked everything so that you could all be where you are now. And they were the two who paid the ultimate price.
You felt your eyes beginning to droop, the gentle movements of the car lulling your tiring body to sleep. You felt Jeno’s arm come around your shoulder and you leant into his warmth, relishing in the comfort of being close to him. Only now did you realise how exhausted you really were. You allowed your head to fall onto Jeno’s shoulder, feeling his arm tighten slightly around you, and you felt safe.
For the first time, ever, you felt safe.

it seems like some people were disappointed that Tubbo and Sparklez haven’t realized who each other are yet, so in this chapter.... I taunt you even more by not letting it happen! bwahahahaha!
@petrichormeraki
Dream was only half paying attention as he worked. He really only replies with yes’s and no’s and nodding along. He was glad the mask hid his surprise when he found that not all the admin powers were there and even less of the Watcher’s influence. Ranboo hasn’t been given the powers directly, but the fact that they had initially been moved by Grian in the first place was enough.
Like an infection, the powers that were linked to Dream himself and not the role of an admin spread into the fragments of energy and magic the Watcher had left behind. It was supposed to act as a label warding off those who would want to mess with those a watcher had claimed in some form or another, but it was also something Dream could use.
He froze when he recognized parts of the energy, similar to signatures he had messed with before. Ranboo said something and he tried to play it off, but he could tell the new admin suspected something. Dream started actually focusing on the conversation until Ranboo no longer seemed suspicious.
Once again, Dream looked at the magic and realized it resembled that of Philza and his sons. That’s right, the watcher has said something about a third son that Philza lost, other than Wilbur and Tommy. It had rattled the hardcore player. And Philza was an avian just like Grian.
Dream started with something small. He might be trapped for now, but he could still do whatever he could to bring his favorite pawn back.
He paused to continue the conversation with Ranboo a bit longer before getting another idea. One wasn’t enough with him. Maybe with what little there was, he could still find a way to mess with the whole set. But before he could get far, Ranboo was starting to leave. It was fine. Two would be just enough.
Grian started feeling sick, he looked around and saw Tommy and Mumbo sleeping next to him, the bots curled up with each other in their own sleep mode. He tried moving in a way to not disturb them but his head spun. His vision went dark for a moment and the next thing he saw was the floor of his mansion getting closer. He was surprised he wasn’t dead from falling that far, everyone else was too. Everyone was trying to figure out what was going on.
Someone pointed it out. This had all started after his family showed up. Maybe it was their fault. But someone else said that it was just the freak out of losing Tommy. It was the war, one person shouted and then more joined in. They were letting people that made war join this server, this safe place. Who would be next? Xisuma wasn’t making it safe anymore. The new server was a problem and he was a problem.
All of Grian’s eyes started looking around, some of them peering into other places on the server. He just needed to find the admin and set things right. He was still dizzy, but Grian pushed himself to his feet, talons scraping on the ground. He dragged himself towards the front door and then flew into the air. The sky started darkening and thunder rumbled before purple magic swirled around him to help bring him to his destination.
Philza stumbled, putting a hand to his head. Wilbur caught him before he could fall. “Dad, what’s wrong?”
“Don’t know.” Philza managed to get out, a wave of nausea hitting him. His wings felt heavy and they unfolded, now dragging on the ground. Wilbur cursed next to him and then started talking to someone. It sounded like it was probably Techno. Philza felt weak on his feet, but for a moment the rest of his strength returned. Something in his mind was screaming that he needed to get out of there.
Wilbur called out, trying to get Philza to stop as a raven flew away to escape dangers he couldn’t see.
Crumb jumped as thunder struck and she shifted to a more humanoid form, though her hair retailed her signature calico colors. “Dat was waaay too loud!”
“Yeah, I know. My friend Fundy gets scared by lightning a lot due to him being a hybrid. I’m not sure I could deal with sensitive ears like that.” Tubbo moved a hand towards some burn scars he had. It managed to go unnoticed by Crumb, but Sparklez.
“What happened?” He asked, making Tubbo realize what he was doing. “You don’t have to say if it’s a sore subject.”
“No, no. It’s fine.” Tubbo looked down at their feet. “I just got trapped before some people killed me with firework rockets. But that was before. Instead of president, I’m Admin Tub-”
There was another sound of thunder as a bolt of lightning struck near them. Crumb and Tubbo both covered their ears while Sparklez shielded them. He blinked the spots out of his eyes, glad that his sunglasses helped with some of the blinding light. Where the lightning had struck stood a form. The captain assumed it would be a skeleton horse that spawned due to the storm, but it was much taller. Another bolt of lightning lit up the creature and Sparklez drew his sword. “What’s a harpy doing here?!”
“Harpy?” Tubbo asked before seeing the looming form of whatever was being referred to.
“A type of bird hybrid, though normally they’re smaller.. But either way, they shouldn’t be in this dimension.”
“They shouldn’t be in this dimension. Shouldn’t be in this dimension.” Sparklez’s voice echoed clearly.
“Oh my god, that’s not a fucking harpy!” Tubbo exclaimed as he started to fumble for his communicator. He needed to warn someone now.
“God, god, god!” the ‘harpy’ parroted back. Another bolt of lightning lit him up and Tubbo froze as Grian’s bright purple watcher eyes all looked down on the trio.
“We need to run!” Tubbo grabbed Sparklez and Crumb and started pulling them away. Their communicator ended up on the ground in the scramble to run and a taloned foot stepped on it, breaking it into pieces.
Tommy was stirred by his sleep from his communicator buzzing followed by rumbling thunder. He yawned with a small shiver and looked around to see Grian was gone. “Bitch coulda woken us up too.” Tommy complained before pulling out his communicator. More messages started coming in, so he scrolled up to read the first one.
<Tubbo_> Grian’s a watcher again! We need help!
<Tubbo_> We’re in thjgrknilvsfehmdb
<Iskall85> What? Mumbo was supposed to be watching him
<Hbomb94> What’s going on?
<Docm77> Nothing good.
Tommy scrolled through the messages as he shook Mumbo awake.
<FalseSymmetry> Why isn’t Xisuma responding?
<Iskall85> I’m trying to see where his comm is. <Iskall85> shit, both his and Tubbo’s are completely down.
<BdoubleO100> What are we going to do?!
When Mumbo complained about being woken up, Tommy shoved his communicator in the redstoner’s face. Reluctantly Mumbo took it and started reading and Tommy moved to wake up the bots. After a few seconds, Mumbo jumped up. “Grian’s not here!”
“Yeah, I saw! He’s wherever Tubbo is but no one knows where that is! And apparently Xisuma is fucking dead or something!”
“Oh this is very not good!”
“You think?!” Tommy manages to wake the bots up. “Last week he was worried about us, so maybe we can convince him again?”
“I don’t know, it’s a little different every time.”
“Well that’s just great!” Tommy shouted, snatching his communicator back.
<TommyInnit> If anyone gets eyes on Grian or Tubbo, send a message this way. If we can’t at least calm Grian down, I at least want to keep Tubbo safe.
“What’s going on? Jrumbot asked, sounding concerned.
“Something’s wrong with Dad.” Mumbo answered, picking Grumbot up. “Tommy can you fly down with Jrumbot?”
Tommy shook his head. “You know I’m stronger than you. You carry Jrumbot down, I’ll take Grumbot.”
Mumbo nodded and handed Grumbot to Tommy before the two glided down from the nest room.
The captain stood, weapon drawn as Grian walked closer. They moved towards a shop that was well lit and finally he got a good look at the watcher. He did indeed look like a harpy, though corrupted by the watcher magic.
As Sparklez kept his eye on Grian, he felt a pang of sadness as he recognized something. Though for the most part the form was staying consistent, he could see feathers shifting unnaturally, the forms of arms becoming clearer and then fading from where the wings were. He had seen this before back when Crumb was first learning how to shapeshift, not quite sure how it worked. It made his wonder how much of this the watcher was in control of.
He didn’t have much more time to dwell on that train of thought as a wing swept towards him. He swung his sword, the blade cutting into the feathers. There was a screech of pain from the Watcher and he pulled back. He seemed to be ready to attack again but paused, tilting his head. Sparklez watched, trying to read his opponent, but then had to cover his face as Grian flew into the air, making the wind whip around. Before he could recover, he felt what felt like claws against his chest. They were gone a moment later as his back was slammed against a wall.
“No! Tubbox is my friend!” He heard Crumb speak, making him look back up. Grian had grabbed a now struggling Tubbo. Crumb was holding onto Tubbo as wings swiped at her, but she shifted her form and moved around to keep from being hit. Finally Grian started flying, dragging Tubbo along as well as Crumb as she refused to let go.
“Crumb! No! Let go!” Sparklez held out his arms, hoping she would let go and he could catch her. But she didn’t and the two of them were taken away by the Watcher as purple magic teleported them away. The captain fell to his knees, just staring at the now empty space in the air.
A raven landed in front of a building of blackstone and obsidian. It shifted back to human form and hit the button, sending a signal to the warden. He traveled through the nether portals to meet with Sam. Answers came out of his mouth that he couldn’t even understand, but it seemed the warden was able to. He was guided to a platform and soon he was walking across to a prison cell with Dream standing within it.

i've never listened to Friends At The Table (though it's on my list now, dnd campaigns podcast wooo!) what would the storyline of the crossover entail? with the HermitCraft characters i'm guessing it's chaotic and interesting 😊
:0!!!! :DDD!!!!!!! if u end up giving it a shot i hope u enjoy it! they dont actually play dnd, they play a bunch of other tabletop games which are all really neat also! (also if u need a suggestion for where to start if/when u get to it, feel free to drop me an ask)
the story follows the typical structure of "group is sent off to do tasks for money, and eventually realise something bigger is going on" so i am largely following the plot in that way, where groups of adventurers are sent out to investigate a series of towers that appear to have some connection to the gods of the world. ajhsjjejhfhjef most of my thoughts about the au are more character based,, so instead of a proper plot summary i can give details and thoughts on where some of the hermits fit into everything so far (while. trying to avoid the big twists revealed in the podcast ig,,?) i also ended up including some sleepybees (sbi + beeduo) in the au but im still not 100% sure on where they fit in (as in i have too many ideas djhdkndnj)
ANYWAY uhhhh some spoilers for the universe im basing this off of, under the cut cos it got long :'D
context/setting:
the specific arc/universe that this au is set in is the one from Seasons in Hieron (SiH) which is their fantasy season! (its. its long,, this arc spans i think. 3 seasons? plus a short interlude season)
the setting was previously a traditional fantasy world that had some sort of great catastrophe (the Erasure) happen, and the current world is after people have rebuilt a new society! its described as "post-fantasy, post-post-apocalyptic" its very fun and subversive and afhdjfbj the worldbuilding is just. real good :>
-----
characters:
im still figuring out where different hermits fit into the au but i am basically taking aspects of various characters from the podcast and splitting roles and traits to hermits, so its all mixed up! also,, there are just. so many hermits,, i have not found places for all of them (not even most of them i dont think) but here is what i have so far:
impulse and zedaph work in the New Archives (a series of huge warehouse-like archives run by the orcs of this world!) impulse is an orc, zed is not! impulse works to retrieve artifacts for the archive, and zed,, hes just kinda there. learning and experimenting with pattern magic (a type of magic done by arranging and rearranging things in specific configurations, often they are obscure and weird things like "27 brown birds in a tree, 5 table legs, 500 buttons, 16 steps to the east" etc.) when the story finds them they are studying a fallen tower in the center of the Mark of the Erasure (a location still showing the effect of the great cataclysm that befell the world)
tango vaguely takes the role of Ephraim, prince of something or rather,,, idk man hes cool and has fire powers, very anime. his powers were a gift from the gods, and he goes on to hv close relations w them! he meets up with impulse and zed later on and become fast friends obviously
joe is an expert in pattern magic, and is on the run from the archives after having stolen a pretty nondescript notebook. its a nice notebook! hes just a human guy. he writes and recites poetry in order to do pattern magic using the notebook!
cleo hails from the city of *Nacre*, where people get multiple chances at life. people from there can get killed but will exist on as zombies, then if they are killed again, they exist as ghosts, and then they pass away fully. she is an undead pirate captain that joe somehow manages to sway over to their side ahjbhfbjf,, she is hunting down the lost prince/king of Nacre.
wels is a pala-din (pal-ah-deen, rather than paladin), a sort of living marble statue that serves one of the gods in the pantheon.
scar is ofc, a wizard! it. it should be noted that wizards dont really exist in this world, people who perform and study magic are mages, not wizards,, "wizard" is kind of a weird term to use sjbdbjhfjjhb scar takes place of The Great Fantasmo in the podcast, and similarly has an invisible assistant! he doesnt seem to remember much of his past...
cubfan works in Velas, a fishing town where the story "begins" he does not enjoy talking to scar, and seems to be sad whenever hes around. perhaps scar reminds him of someone, or perhaps of better times...
tfc hes a priest aagsuijdjhkdgjdkihwhjvd i swear theres a reason for this later,, the role of the npc alyosha is somewhat split between tfc and cub!
-----
others i have thoughts on but im not settled on yet:
im debating having xisuma as part of the pantheon, but if not, he would be a druid so he can shapeshift into animals sjbakjnsnfjb he would take the general role of Fero in the story, but would also be kind of split with evil x, who captures... a certain stubbornness and deepset frustration Fero has in later times.
etho could take the place of Samol, the first god to exist. he is the embodiment of this world, and is kind of isolated and strange wbhshjhbdbhjdjbdkjn,, strange /pos. hes also. kind of dissapearing though... i wonder why :)
while theoratically i could have xisuma as samol cos. yknow. admin. i think the vibes and role just fit etho better
and... if i had etho as samol i think it could be fun to have doc and bdubs as other members of the pantheon, if u go with their dynamic from the start of s7 they even fit the divorced couple vibe two of the gods have /lh /hj (nho pantheon pog..? maybe. theres a total of 5 deities in the pantheon tho...)
im leaning toward either false + stress or maybe gem + pearl pairs for two of the goddesses in the pantheon, but thatd probably depend on if i can find a better place for them ;P
techno and phil take the role of red jack, and techno is a Huge Oni Dude >:] in canon red jack has a cool horse!!! it fits!! hes also. heavily implied to be kinda immortal?? anyway. im torn on this because techno and phil ALSO fit the roles of some of the player characters, with relation to the missing prince/king of Nacre but im still working things out,,
no matter whats up with them, ranboo takes the role of bluejay, redjacks son, meeting up with tubbo and tommy who take the place of benjamin, the son of one of the player characters. tubbo and tommy kind of. get sent to another dimension to keep them safe,,? and live in a lie for many years before they are brought back.
when i first thought about this au, i also thought about the whole. sending child off into fake dimension to live life, and of course. i thought about. grumbot ofc and originally planned to have mumbo or grian take the place of that player character abhdfvnbrvbn but it also implies one or both of them would be paladins (not pala-din! just the normal religious knight) AND have connections to tubbo and tommy which is. funny but ehhhh idk.
-----
and that. maybe probably somewhat incoherent train of thought is what i have for the au so far! its. still very much a work in progress so thank you if you stuck through all that!! ive still got a lot to think abt in the au,,,, lots to figure out ;P hopefully i can iron it out a bit more in the future, but its fun to think about for the time being

Intervention
Good God help me I’m back on my Garmari again. AGAIN. Class salt, but not Alya, Alix is neutral (so minor Alix salt?). Chloé redemption, but it’s not mentioned. Also, members of the new team at the end are PV Félix and his Gucci Gang
~~~
Marinette never thought she’d thank Chloé Bourgeois, of all people, for her boyfriend.
Backtrack.
A year and a half ago, their end-of-year class trip was the best one they had had or ever would. Funding, from Chloé’s father, went to a weeklong trip to San Francisco. They toured Alcatraz, the different neighborhoods, the Ghirardelli factory, and walked the Golden Gate Bridge.
None of those events even came close to the Teen Titans’ tower in San Francisco Bay. They didn’t go inside, obviously, but almost every day, in their allotted free time, she found herself at a harborside café, sketching the tower and designs that came to her from it and its team.
It was those quiet times that, incidentally, got her into contact with the team shapeshifter, Beast Boy.
Marinette had been sitting on a dock for a change, doodling idly as her legs swung from a bench — she was still too short for her feet to touch the ground at fifteen. Tikki dozed in her purse, stuffed full of chocolate.
As the sun began to make its way toward the horizon, she got up and placed the sketchbook in her backpack. Then, like the sun, she began to head home.
That journey would quickly be delayed. A man, hood up and all in dark clothes, snatched her purse and took off like a shot.
Tikki!
The Parisian girl sprinted after him, shouting for help. If she had been transformed, perhaps she would have taken him down faster.
But perhaps it was for the better. A green blur shot out of an alley and knocked into the would-be thief with a forceful missile kick, quickly apprehending the man. Marinette skidded to a halt to avoid running him over, and was caught in a pair of dark brown eyes.
Oh, hello there.
He grinned toothily, and held up her clutch purse. “Does this happen to be yours?”
“Oui!” Marinette’s hands flew to her mouth, and she couldn’t help but flush in embarrassment. “Oh! I am sorry, yes, it is.” Despite years of learning English, she couldn’t help but stammer with her accent.
The green boy fished out a pair of cuffs and locked them around the thief’s wrists, and kept a hold on them with his left hand as he held out his right. “I’m Beast Boy. Nice to meet you, though it would’ve been better under different circumstances.”
She shook his hand, and couldn’t help a sheepish smile. “Well, um, if you would like to try again,” Marinette suggested, already flushing, “I will be close to Hyde Street Pier, on the waterfront, close to three o’clock tomorrow.”
His grin only widened. “Can’t wait!” Beast Boy hauled the man to his feet, and glanced back at her. “Oh, hey, by the way — what’s your name?”
“I’m Marinette!”
“See you tomorrow, Marinette!”
That fateful encounter sparked a close friendship, which blossomed into an even closer relationship.
Marinette was grateful that the stars had aligned that day. She wouldn’t be where she was in life without him, if she was being completely honest.
She and Gar were open about their identities to each other, and when he came over on his bimonthly visit via Zeta tubes, they spent their days inside cuddling, watching movies, and playing video games.
The only thing that irked both of them was the fact that their relationship was one-hundred-percent secret from the press, as neither wanted that publicity.
Ergo, they couldn’t be seen in public together.
Therefore, they couldn’t go on dates, no matter how much they wanted to.
At least they had reached a compromise. Until Hawkmoth was defeated, on her own terms, they couldn’t be seen together. Even if her own terms, which would take more time, involved no outside help.
When Lila Rossi entered Françoise Dupont for the first time, Marinette didn’t have to be Ladybug to see through her lies. She claimed extravagant tales of meeting American superheroes on her mother’s travels — of the Teen Titans in New York City, of the Batfamily in Gotham, and of some group she had completely made up — the Gems of Justice, of all names.
Yeah, no. She didn’t have to be a superheroine to spot the bullcrap a mile away.
She tried to keep the whole situation quiet, though, she really did. Marinette didn’t want to burden Gar with class drama. After all, she was well aware that they only had so much time together.
But just like how she had tried to keep being Ladybug from him, that plan fell through in a matter of hours.
He held her when she sniffled over Lila’s threat, and let her slump back into him as she described how her classmates (sans Alya, bless her heart) were riveted by this Italian liar nobody who somehow held their attention.
She held onto the hope that they would all see reason, sometime.
That hope shattered when Alya moved away. Her parents wanted out from the living nightmare of Akumatown, as all four of their daughters had been akumatized at least once apiece.
Marinette sobbed, for the first time alone in the city of love.
It was midnight when she called him on her first night without her bestie, bawling into the phone line.
It was twenty minutes past when he showed up on her balcony, and she almost tackled them both over the railing. She let her emotions pour out onto his shoulder and he held her tight; and when she ran out of tears to cry, he held her until she fell asleep in her bed.
In the morning, he let her sleep in a little bit, and made her pancakes (with green food coloring, of course, because how else would he?). She cried again upon seeing the food, but there were thankful tears mixed among the sad ones.
Marinette left her house with her head held high.
Without her rock Alya at her side, Lila’s digs and jibes became worse. She took the mental hits, took the comments. Snide words turned into sneering faces turned into trips in the hallways, turned into destroyed work.
She resigned from the class presidency, choking down tears.
How could she have let it get this bad?
She should have stood up to it, so it could have stopped before it all began!
Oh, Alya…
Trips in the hallways turned to shoving at the steps, turned into stolen things.
Garfield, in the Titan Tower, had had a slow week. He’d only gone to visit Marinette a few days ago, but when Raven flicked his shoulder and told him he was moping, he headed off to the tubes to pay his girlfriend a surprise visit.
He emerged in Paris and immediately morphed into a bird, flying high above the city. He didn’t want the attention that came with his ability, not today.
As her school wasn’t out yet, Gar soared around Paris, taking in the sights. No matter how many times he came to the city, the views still left him amazed.
And Marinette with him, when they could go to those places, would leave him breathless.
As the hour wound closer, he headed over to Collège François Dupont, and took a perch on one of the flagpoles, content to wait for the time being.
The bell rang to let the classes out, and he shifted on his seat, eager to catch a glimpse of his girlfriend.
There!
She was one of the first out, and he readied his wings to swoop down to her and sweep Marinette off her feet. He was almost in flight when he stopped dead, dread washing over him like a tidal wave.
A tall Asian boy with an undercut and bleached hair hurried after her, his sneakered feet hitting the cement with a self-righteous purpose.
And a pack was following him.
Her classmates — a pale girl with long black hair, a dark-skinned boy with close-cropped hair, a short blonde girl, a tall blonde boy, and more — were in close pursuit.
And behind them strode a brunette, her wedged heels clicking with her own purpose. Green eyes watched all as her lips curled into a deadly, sickly smirk.
All attention was on Marinette, who hurried to go home, shoulders hunched.
He had left her alone like this.
“Hey!” the Asian boy called, and a robot whizzed in front of his girlfriend, bringing her up short.
She froze, and slowly turned to face him. Marinette was dwarfed by his massive frame, and she was terrified of what might happen next.
His hands came to rest on his hips, and he cocked his head in a leer. “Don’t think you’ve gotten away with what you’ve done.”
“Huh?” Her tone was shrill, it was panicked. “Kim, I didn’t do anything!”
An ugly frown twisted his face. “Then maybe you’ll remember!”
Faster than she could react, his hand raised and descended.
But Garfield reacted faster.
In a blink, he took off like a shot and dove down at the Asian boy, then shifted back to human form midair to launch himself at the boy feet-first like a missile. His boots hit the boy in the back of the neck, and man, was he satisfied to see him fall.
“G- Beast Boy?!” Marinette’s panicked whisper told him she was only a hair away from a complete breakdown.
The classmates hurriedly backpedaled, clearing a ring for him in the crowd that was quickly forming.
Gar hauled the boy — Kim — up by his hoodie collar. Despite his scrawny figure, he was lean, and packed a punch.
“I don’t like bullies,” he hissed as his eyes narrowed to slits. Kim quaked in his grasp, catching a good look at his fangs. “And if I catch you even looking at her wrong, you’ll wish you had never met her.”
Someone in the crowd was foolish enough to step forward and speak up. It was the dark-skinned boy with glasses, and his robot had flown back to be at his side. “My calculations prove that there is a ninety-percent chance that Marinette is the one at fault.”
He felt his girlfriend shrink beside him. It was tempting to shift into a tiger and intimidate the lot of them.
But instead his lips twitched into a smile, instead he grinned. The hook in his mouth had never been so cold.
“Then I suggest you check your calculations, buddy boy.” The class flinched back from his tone alone — it flashed knives, razor-sharp and ready to cut.
“All of you better watch your backs, ‘cause I’ll be waiting for an opening.” His voice spilled from his throat in an angry growl. If he had been a tiger, his tail would have lashed.
“I’m giving you one warning. Scram.”
The class took off and scattered, one of them even darting into the street.
Gar didn’t spare them a second glance before turning back to Marinette and hugging her tight. “I’m so sorry,” he murmured, closing his eyes and inhaling the scent of her perfume. “I should be there for you, not an ocean away.”
Her arms snaked around his sides and clutched him tight. Her entire body was shaking like a leaf, so he gently rubbed her back.
“Hey, hey. Marinette, let’s get back to your room, okay?” Any trace of the snarl he had bared at her classmates was gone; his voice was gentle now, it was soothing.
She sniffled, and hiccuped once as she tried to get her breathing under control. “Okay.” Her voice was quiet, subdued. There was no trace of the sassy girl he had met who loved life fiercely with all her heart.
Anger built inside him but he dispelled it, thanking Raven for forcing him to learn meditation.
After he picked up her bag, Gar wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close. “It’s not that far. You can make it.”
Another subdued “okay” was all the response he got.
He led her across the street, ignoring the looks passers-by threw him and even the phone cameras.
Once she was inside the bakery, a shocked gasp let him know Sabine Cheng had seen them. She rushed out from behind the counter to hug her daughter tight, then led the two of them to their living room upstairs.
After he had set down her bag and the three of them were seated on the couch, Sabine with her arm around Marinette and Garfield holding her hand, his girlfriend finally broke down, sobbing into her mother’s shoulder.
“Do you want me to make tea?” he offered, knowing Sabine didn’t want to leave her daughter’s side.
The older woman nodded. “Please. Peony.”
He gave Marinette’s hand a squeeze and got up, finding the kettle and mugs easily. While he waited for the water to heat up, he sat back down next to her.
Sabine looked to him, gray eyes piercing. “What happened, Garfield?”
He told her everything. How he had watched her come out of the school and saw Kim go straight for Marinette on an offense she hadn’t committed.
“It’s Lila,” his girlfriend muttered, her voice muffled by her mother’s shirt. “She’s influenced them all except Alix.”
That didn’t help matters.
“But Alix didn’t defend you,” Gar told her gently. “They all, one way or another, abandoned you.”
Marinette hiccuped, finally looking up at him. A bolt of pain shot through his heart at the face looking him in the eyes — red-rimmed eyes, tear-stained cheeks, and a running nose.
“They abandoned me,” she repeated, her voice hollow. “I have nobody.”
“You’ve got me,” Garfield reminded her, taking her hands and squeezing them tight. “You’ve got two parents who love you more than anything in the world. And, if I called them now, you have the Teen Titans. All of them would stand for you. Every last one of them.”
The kettle whistled, and he got up to steep the tea. He heard Sabine murmur to her daughter in Cantonese, things he didn’t understand but knew the intent. He returned to the couch with three mugs balanced carefully on a tray, and set it down on the table.
“Mrs. Cheng, I don’t know if you’ve considered it, but have you thought of moving schools?”
She nodded, and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “I have. And I think that it would be best.”
Marinette didn’t even flinch, just numbly nodded. His heart broke to see her so lifeless, and he pulled her into a tight hug. He almost had to blink back tears of his own, and rested his chin on the top of her head.
“Let me help with this, Mrs. Cheng. Please.”
Sabine nodded. “I will. How long are you going to stay in Paris?”
“As long as I’m needed.”
And he did. He stayed.
Garfield was the one to march into Françoise Dupont to deliver the paperwork to Damocles, his chin up and shoulders back. Even if he was at average height — and shorter than a good half of the school — they cleared a path for him, the school yard silent enough to drop a pin.
He didn’t spare them a parting glance.
Gar was the one to walk her to her new school, where she was mobbed by Kagami, Luka, and Chloé. They thanked him, each thank-you heartfelt, and he grinned, knowing his girlfriend was in good hands.
He was there for her first week, and went back to the Tower knowing she had friends to support her there.
And when Hawkmoth was finally defeated months later, with a new team and a new Chat Noir, he pulled Marinette into a searing kiss as the rain began to wash Paris clean.
TELL THE CULTURE THING NOW
OKAY SO THIS IS GOING UNDER A CUT ASDFLKJN
lets talk about Wood Elves for a bit asdlfkjn
so. wood elves were like. one of the very very first things i thought of for Scintillam, before it was even really a story and more of a concept they play. basically no part in the story asdflkjn which makes me sad! bc i thought abt them!! so much!!! and i'm thinking abt them so much rn!!!! butt here's rlly no way that i can think of to get them to actually play a part in the story :( there used to be a wood elf protag, but they were one of the protags that got axed when the group was getting too bloated asdflkjn ANYWAY culture
they all live in the Wyldwood, one of the few flesh and blood inhabitants(and the only that aren't like. wildlife). and they live like. DEEP in the Wyldwood, and are like the biggest demographic of the followers of the religion centering around the Rootmother, and like a solid 30% of the Order of The Outsiders are wood elves. they worship other gods- they have a whole pantheon- but, like, the Rootmother is like. top god in the pantheon. think like Odin or Zeus, she's the big one. they're all super duper pale, because they live in such thick woods that sunlight literally cannot get in and many of them have had generations of never getting sunlight period, their hair is white, and their eyes are pure black. they're also generally pretty lithe and tall, but that varies ofc. they have an above average lifespan, not thousands of years long, but like. the average "died of old age" age is like, early 300s they're very much like you'd expect wood elves to be; they love nature. they respect it. their hunters wear cloaks with skulls of their quarry on the hood to honor their god of the hunt(which has, incidentally, led to a mistaken belief among non-wood elves that they can shapeshift. it's dark and hardly anybody sees them okay). they have spiritual leaders called Root-Maidens who they believe have a deep connection with the Rootmother, and, by extension, the other gods. Root-Maidens basically lead their community through basically everything; where to build new structures, where the best places to grow food are, the best places to hunt, etc. they're also in charge of judging and deciding the punishment for people who are in breach of their laws. Root-Daughters are Root-Maidens in training, and Root-Sisters are the candidates to take up the role of Root-Maiden if the old one dies. they're all incredibly solitary and distrustful of outsiders and strangers, and very few ever stray outside of their corner of the world; the only exception is Changelings since many wood elves venerate the Traveler. sort of as a result of their solitary lifestyle, they don't rlly have marriages. the relationship between two people is seen as a deeply private thing and that prying into a relationship between two people who aren't open about it is distasteful and deeply disrespectful, the only time they get involved in others lives that deeply is if children are involved; the whole village helps raise kids. occasionally they may have something resembling a marriage ceremony, but it's less of a ceremony and more of the couple actually just officially announcing the fact that they're a Thing(tm). wood elves view gender as a private affair as well, they don't judge and they don't pry, you do you. despite this, they are a fairly close-knit community, just with a particular emphasis on personal privacy as sort of a contrast between most elves in the setting, the wood elf dialect of the elf language is very literal with little room for misinterpretation, as opposed to High Elf dialect which is very flowery and full of metaphors and often incredibly confusing to people who aren't fluent, and Dark Elf dialect which is mostly literal but often talks circles around itself. wood elf writing often have single "letters" that represent entire words, and words when spoken are often short. as such, wood elves learning common often come across as incredibly terse and blunt at first as they adapt to the language those who have a desire to explore the wider world and actually act on it are called Windchasers and are generally seen as weird. but nobody really stops them since they put such high value on individuality because of their solitary lifestyles anyway, no part of an animal is wasted, and they're all VERY careful not to upset the ecosystem too much, so many wood elf villages are pretty small and they're very spread out, because they feel like if their villages get too big than they might need more resources than they feel comfortable taking, with the exception of their capital. they're very big on the belief of paying nature its due, any time they kill something
they take the heart to bury in the forests. killing a predator when it isn't actively threatening you is also seen as a BIG nono, and even then they're encouraged to look for an alternative. the only exception is when they need to replace a spiritual cloak of a predator for hunting purposes despite their rustic seeming lifestyle, wood elves are not unfamiliar with metalworking, and, in fact, the main wood elf city, possesses a great number of metal workers, some of which work with Wyrd Iron, a type of metal naturally infused with the magical energy of the Rootmother, found only in the wyldwood. its seen as a kind of sacred metal, and those who are decked out in full wyrd iron armor and weapons are often like the wood elves version of inquisitors or crusaders, called Archons. stonework is also a common craft simply because sometimes you need something a little sturdier than wood they also have an afterlife that they believe in, called the Glade, which is a sort of spiritual manifestation of their reverence for the cycle of nature. based off how you lived, you either get to return to the world and keep the cycle going as a wood elf, an outsider, or some animal somewhere, or you get to live outside of the cycle with the gods in the Glade if you were a Root-Maiden who did their job well. if you were a terrible person with zero respect for the cycle, you get sent to the Bones of The Earth, where your trapped, fully conscious soul would feed the roots of the wyldwood for eternity, so you'd finally contribute SOMETHING
anyway that's all my brain will give me tonight, ty for ur interest and sorry for the wall of text asldfkn
Dean’s POV:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My chest is rising and falling like crazy, my lungs are burning so much as if I had just ran non stop for three miles and at the same time I feel like I'm suffocating. I try not to breathe too deep. Try not to inhale the sickening scent that lingers in the old empty factory building I am standing in.
As much as I want to, I just can't bring myself to tear my eyes away. I try to look away with all the strength I have in me, but I just can't do it. My eyes are glued to the limb body in front of me. The small frame is covered in blood from head to toe, the skin cut open in so many places by a knife. My knife. Fuck, there is so much blood….
I have to turn away from this, urgently. This whole thing has already been hard enough, why do I have to torture myself even more? Why do I have to keep staring at the body, keep staring at the damage I have done?
Maybe, deep down, I know that I deserve it, deserve the pain. Deserve to break myself more and more. After everything I have done - and haven't done. I always knew that there would be no happy ending for me, that I would never be happy, or even deserve to be happy. Until Y/N came into my life. I thought that maybe, maybe, I could get some small piece of happiness.
It is so quiet in here, I can hear the blood that is still running over her hand and fingers drip into the puddle of blood around the chair on the concrete floor.
I slowly raise the hand I am holding the bloody knife in and try to wipe it clean on my sleeve. The metallic yet somehow slightly sweet smell creeps its way deeper into my nose and my stomach turns at the thought of whose blood it is. Well, not exactly, but my mind just can't wrap around the fact that it technically isn't her blood, that it isn’t her I killed just moments ago.
The mark is burning hot on my arm, somewhat satisfied yet screaming for more. But my whole body is in pain and at the same time I feel so numb, I almost don’t recognize its pull. I know my thoughts are racing, I can feel them racing around in my head, but I can’t make out what I am thinking. I have no idea. Everything is blurry and yet so clear.
Tumblr media
I find myself back in the Impala. Sitting in the front seat and staring out of the front window. One hand on the wheel while I absently claw into my forearm with the other, where the mark still burns. I have no idea how I got in here or how I did everything I had to do in the last thirty minutes. I somehow managed to burn her body - no dammit, its body! - and got rid of every evidence. My body on autopilot the whole time, my mind blank.
This must have been the most fucked up thing I ever had to do. My worst possible fear had become reality tonight. I had, kind of, turned into my biggest fear. Ever since I took the mark and first felt its effects, I am scared to death that I could hurt her, could kill her. In the beginning I even considered sending her away, getting her out of my life, out of harm's way. And I tried. I really tried, believe me. I pushed her away, ignored her and practically treated her like shit, but she stayed with me. Was there for me. Never left my side.
I take a deep shaky breath while my eyes flutter shut. I let my head sink down onto the steering wheel and press my forehead into the leather. I try my best to keep the gruesome images out of my mind, but I fail horribly. I see it over and over again. The pained expression on her face when I stuck the silver knife into her stomach, her pleading Y/E/C eyes filled with tears, her begging and her scratchy voice after all the screaming. I don’t think I will ever be able to forget this.
My throat hurts and my ears are ringing from a scream I didn’t even realize I let out.
I reach into my jacket to grab my keys, but it’s empty. So is the other side. When I can’t find them in the pockets of my jeans either I start to panic. Please God, don’t make me go back in there. Please, please. My eyes search through the interior. Maybe I dropped them. Or I put them on the dashboard. Or maybe I… A relieved sigh leaves my lips when I see them in the ignition. Fuck, I have to calm down so I can get away from here. I just want to leave, want to be back home, want to be with her. Need to be with her. There are no words for how relieved I am that the bunker isn’t far away.
I turn the keys and Baby’s purring instantly calms me down a bit. Not much, but enough so I can drive home safely. I turn her around and drive back as fast as I can.
The smell of blood gets thicker and thicker in here the longer I drive. I open the window as soon as it gets too much, but as it turns out, that was a bad idea. The air that comes in just stirs it up, makes it worse. I jerk the wheel violently to the side, stop the car with screeching tires and open the door. My knees hit the asphalt, I fall forward and start to heave.
When I’m sure I will no longer throw up I wipe my mouth with the back of my hand and let my back fall against the side of the Impala. Tears are burning in my eyes, fighting their way down my face. I bury my face in my hands and let go. Let all the pain I am feeling out.
Everything is blurry. I don’t know if I am still crying or if it's the result of the state I’m in. The numbness never left.
Tumblr media
Y/N’s POV:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I stir awake and lift my head from the book that I still hold in my hands. I must have fallen asleep while I waited for Dean to come back. Speaking of him, what time is it? He should be back by now, he just wanted to grab some beer and burgers.
With a long, loud yawn I turn to my back and stretch. When I roll my head around to ease the pain in my neck, my gaze falls to the door and every bit of sleepiness left in my body is gone. I gasp at the sight before my eyes and immediately jump to my feet.
Dean stands in the door, covered in blood, shaking  and crying. My heart dropped. God, what happened to him?
“Dean! What happened? Are you okay?” I run to him and start to roam his body with my hands, searching for any injuries, but except for a few scratches and bruises on his face I can’t find any. It's not his blood, thank god. He doesn’t say a word, doesn’t move. Just keeps staring at me with wide, heartbroken eyes. It’s almost as if he is looking through me. I have never seen him like that and it scares the shit out of me.
I take his face in my hands and stroke my thumbs over his cheekbones, trying to wipe his tears away. “Baby… Please say something….”
His eyes focus on mine and now he looks at me, really looks at me.
“Y/N…” Dean’s voice isn’t louder than a whisper, almost inaudible, but I am still able to hear all the pain in his voice. His face twists in pain and he leans forward, crashing me against him in a tight grip. He buries his face into my neck and starts sobbing. Before I can react his legs give a way, pulling me to the floor with him.
“Dean!”
I reach my arms around his back and hold him as tight as I can. My heart is breaking with every sob that shakes through his body. I have never seen him so broken. He doesn’t say a word, just grabs me tighter and tighter, clutching onto me like a drowning man.
As much as I want to know what happened to him, I don’t push him any further. Instead I hold him and brush through his hair, try to give him as much comfort as I can.
It took Dean a long time to compose himself enough to talk about the incident.
He tells me that he heard a scream near the parking lot of the diner he wanted to get the burgers from. He followed the sound, only to find a young girl - not older than seven or eight - laying motionless on the pavement, a man standing over her with a bloody knife in his hand. He had slid the kids throat, in the middle of the day in some kind of dark alley. When he saw Dean he grimaced and took off. Dean followed him to an abandoned factory, where he found the appetizing slime pool of shifter skin. And after some time searching around he had found him, but he had changed his appearance. Apparently the shifter knew who Dean was, knew who we were. He had changed into me.
After Dean ends I swallow hard and try to blink away the tears that are trying to escape my eyes. For a while I am just sitting there with him on the floor in the door frame, holding him.
“Come on, let’s get you cleaned up.” I help him stand up and when I am sure he is standing straight I pull him with me.
We slowly make our way to the bathroom and when we are there I open the door and let him walk in. I close the door behind us and when I turn around I see him standing in the middle of the room. His hands are still shaking, but otherwise he stood still, not making a single move to undress himself.
I close the space between us and cradle his face again, my thumbs brush over his cheekbones to get rid of the tears that were still running down. His eyes flutter a bit and with a shuddering breath he slightly leans into my palm. I slide my hands down his neck and push them over his chest and shoulders to pull the dirty, bloody jacket off him, throwing it carelessly to a side where he doesn't have to see it.
While I help him undress Dean is stealing glances everytime he thinks I don't see it. But I do and the expression in his eyes let my heart break even more. I wish I could take it all away from him, could take away his pain, his guilt. His fucking mark. I would take it myself in a heartbeat, but he would never let me do that. And I get that. If it would be the other way around, I wouldn’t either… God how I wish we could get rid of it. But we still haven’t found a fucking way.
When he’s left in a shirt and boxer shorts I face the shower, turn it on and set the water to a high temperature. The hot water starts to fog, which slowly starts filling the bathroom.
After I help Dean out of the rest of his clothes I take his hand into mine and guide him under the stream. He places his hands on the tiles and leans forward, head hanging low and water running down his broad shoulders and back.
I fish for his favorite showergel and shampoo out of the drawer where we keep all our shower stuff to bring it with me into the shower. I undress myself, my clean clothes piling up on his bloody ones. Another attempt to make him not see them.
Before I step into the cabin as well I wait for a moment, let him have a minute alone. I watch his shoulders rise and fall in shuddering motions, watch the water drops roll down his skin.
Dean pulls his right hand away from the wall and buries his face into his palm. His left hand clenches into a fist.
I step behind him and squeeze some of the shower gel into my hands. “‘M gonna touch you now, ok?”, I whisper, not really awaiting an answer if I had to be honest. I don’t think he really heard me either, but I wanted to let him know nonetheless, not wanting to startle him.
After I rubbed the gel between my palms I begin to spread it over his shoulders, running my hands up and down his back and press my thumbs down to knead his sore muscles. The more time passes, the more he seems to relax. At least I thought so, until I hear a sound over the patter of the water. I almost don’t register it, but when I feel Dean shaking more again, feel his shoulders quivering, I know what the sound is. Know, he is crying. Know, he is breaking into even smaller pieces than he had already been shattered before.
I place my forehead between his shoulder blades and wrap my arms around his middle, spread my hands over chest and stomach and press my body against his back. It hurts me so much to see him like that, to know that I can’t do anything to take the pain away and make it better.
“Dean. She killed someone, she killed a child”, I whisper, my eyes closed. “You had to kill her; you had to kill ‘me’. But it killed you just the same, and that’s why you have to remember that it was a shapeshifter. A monster. Not me, not the real me.” I press my lips against his skin, plant kiss after kiss on his shoulders and neck, trying to calm him down. "It wasn't me." I squeeze him before I loosen my grip on his body and move in front of him, my hands never leaving his torso. He bites on his bottom lip, closes his eyes and turns his head away, his face twisted in pain.
“Look at me, Dean.” I lift my hands to cup his cheeks. "Please, baby.”
He takes a deep breath and turns his head back, hesitantly opening his eyes, revealing a raging storm of emotions.
“I am here, you hear me? I am here, right here - with you - and I am alive. I'm here to stay. I know, you think otherwise, but even with this god-forsaken mark on your arm, you won’t hurt me. You would never hurt me, not in a million years. No matter what.”
Dean’s POV:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I am here, you hear me? I am here, right here - with you - and I am alive. I'm here to stay. I know, you think otherwise, but even with this god-forsaken mark on your arm, you won’t hurt me. You would never hurt me, not in a million years. No matter what.”
God, I love her so much. What have I done to deserve this woman in my life? I admire this about her, her optimisms and that she always sees the good in people, but how can she stand here and be so damn sure that I won’t hurt her? I am no good, nothing but a killing machine. Evil. Rather sooner than later she will die and her blood will be on my hands. She should run as fast and far as she can; as long as she is still able to.
I can’t do or say anything. I just look at her, look into her Y/E/C eyes. My heart is clenching so hard it hurts again, even though it is a different - a good - kind of pain. I lean forward and press my lips to hers and try to fight the sigh that is trying to escape my throat.
Shortly after we step out of the shower cabin. Y/N tells me to wait so she could get some towels, so I just stand here, feeling lost. Until my eyes land on the pile of clothes that isn’t laying too far away from me. Her clothes almost fully cover mine, but I can see my jacket peeking out under them. As if an invisible string is pulling me into the direction I begin to walk towards the pile. I get down and rummage through the clothing until I find what I am looking for.
I’m already standing again when Y/N comes back, a slight smile on her lips when she steps closer and puts one of the towels on my head and starts to rub over my hair. The object in my hand behind my back feels heavy.
She is so concentrated on drying my hair, that she doesn’t notice that I am staring at her. When she does though, she smirks. “What?”
Without saying another word I move my hand in front of me. She glances down and immediately looks back up with wide eyes, shock in her face.
And then I plunge forward. Her body collides with the hard wall behind her and she gasps. A silent scream written all over her face as the first blade pierces her skin, gliding through her flesh like butter. There is blood flowing out of the corner of her mouth and she tries to say something, but nothing but a gurgling sound leaves her lips.
Fascinated I watch the life slowly leave her eyes; and when they roll back and her body goes limp… I just smile.
Tumblr media
“Y/N, NO!!”
With a loud scream I shoot up. It takes a second, but I can make out where I am. I’m in my - our - room, sitting in bed. My shirt is sticking to my skin and drenched in sweat.
Y/N jerks up, about to grab her gun from the nightstand to defend herself. As soon as she sees me, she looks worried.
“Dean? What’s wrong? Did you have a nightmare?”
I can just look at her. This fucking nightmare had felt so real. I can still feel the blade in my hand, can still smell the blood.
When I don’t answer she lifts her hand and brushes over the side of my head. “You okay, baby?”
I shake my head, not able to say a word.
Y/N scoots closer to me and brings me down with her, pulling my head to her chest. I instantly wrap my arms around her waist and pull her as close as I can and let her heartbeat calm me down.
“Shh… It’s okay.” Her hands come up and she starts to stroke over my arm and through my hair. “I’m here. It was just a dream, everything is okay.”
Werewolf Girlfriend
F werewolf X GN human, 2,995 words.
Welcome to Fortune Falls! I thought it might be nice to create a shared town for some of my monsters, so here’s the first installment that takes place there. Meet the locals with the help of Alice, a friendly werewolf.
The idea of moving to Fortune Falls was an intimidating, if also exciting, prospect. It was one of the only fully integrated towns in the country. Most towns were largely occupied by one species. There were numerous reasons for it, some better than others. Most towns were built to house the population that founded them. Usually, the effort was fairly practical- harpies built tall, perch-like houses, nagas were much more comfortable in underground houses, and werewolves needed a large space to run around in, and so rarely lived in cities. Species tended to found their own towns instead of adapting to another way of living, so few towns had more than one or two outliers.
Fortune Falls had been designed as a town where all species could live in harmony. It had been built to accommodate all needs and had become a bustling little place full of every kind of monster.
Which was where you came in.
Medical concerns were one of the other practical reasons monsters rarely lived together. From feather-rot in harpies to shifter sickness in werewolves, the maladies monsters could get were varied. It was difficult to find a doctor who had trained in all the different diseases each species could get. It took extensive schooling and training, but finally, you had become one of the few doctors in the country who had certification in multi-species medicine.
There was a sense of deep pride as you drove into town for your new life. You’d managed to get a position at the town’s clinic, responsible for servicing the diverse population. There were a couple specialists there, but you were the only person with general species knowledge.
You pulled up to the clinic and went inside, tugging on your white coat. You schedule was packed- while the specialists would take on the patients they knew how to treat, there were only three of them and far more species in the town. Everything else got shuffled over to you.
Despite the rush and hurry of your work, you were enjoying it. You saw a demon with weakened horns, a harpy with mites in his feathers, and even a minotaur with the flu. Each new patient was a new challenge and you enjoyed every The clinic was just about to close and you were finishing up in the front lobby when the glass doors at the front swung open. A group of people in their late twenties staggered into the office. They were all fairly muscular and looked like they’d been in quite a few scrapes- there wasn’t a single one of them without an open cut or scar. Three of them were gathered around a fourth woman in the middle, supporting her. She was favoring her right arm, and there was an unfocused look in her eyes.
Your trained eye took in the rowdy, but friendly and excitable nature of the group and made a differential diagnosis. Werewolves. They were remarkably hardy, but close to the full moon, even the older ones tended to act like rowdy teenagers. Given the way the woman was favoring her arm, you guessed she’d sprained it at best, snapped it in two at worst.
“Hey, doc!” One of the women toward the front of the group waved you down. “Got a patient for you!”
You focused on the woman in the center of the group with the injured arm. She was buff, you noticed appreciatively, with short brown hair that flopped over her eyes as she grinned sheepishly. “You’re the patient, I’m assuming?” you said.
The woman stepped forward, breaking away from the rest of her pack. “Yeah, that’s me,” she said. “We were kind of roughhousing. Did something to my arm.” She looked back at the rest of the group with a half-smile. “Wanted to walk it off, but the pack kind of dragged me here.”
“Probably a good thing. Come on back. I’ll give you an examination.” You led her into the back of the clinic and moved toward the X-ray room. “I’ll need to take a quick X-ray of that arm. Just to see if it’s broken or not.”
“Might be broken,” she said, cradling her injured arm in her good one. “It feels like that.”
You gave her a side-eye as you set up the machine. “You’ve broken your arm before?”
“Yeah. Other arm, though, not the same one.”
“You should be more careful,” you said. “And stand here. Put your arm here… All right, I’ll be back in a moment.” You stepped out of the room. Her eyes followed you to the door. There was a whirring noise as the machine warmed up, then you stepped back into the room.
“How’s it look, Doc?” the woman said as you looked at the X-ray on the computer screen.
“Well, you definitely broke it,” you said. “See there?” The woman leaned close to your shoulder as you tapped at the X-ray. “There’s a little crack in your forearm. It looks like you just cracked the bone a little- not a clean break, but not shattered either. It’s not too big a crack, so I’m not going to give you a hard cast.” You led her into an examination room and gathered the materials for a sling. “Keep your arm in the bindings for a month.”
You carefully wrapped her arm and fitted it into the sling. She was still the whole time, only making the smallest of noises, even when you were sure it was hurting her. “Don’t let it get wet. And I’ll give you a prescription for some stronger pain meds.” You frowned at her. “And no shapeshifting for the month.”
She made a whining noise in her throat that sounded remarkably like a sad puppy. “But it’s the full moon next week!”
“You’re in your thirties. Surely you’ve learned to control the change by now,” you said. Werewolves had more difficulty controlling themselves on the full moon, but that was mostly an issue for younger wolves. Once they passed their mid-twenties, most werewolves were pretty good at controlling their change.
“Yeah, but it’s the full moon! We always go out on the full moon…” She trailed off when she saw your glare. “Okay, Doc. I’ll stay inside.”
You walked her back outside of the room and she was immediately surrounded by her small pack. They talked over one another in their eagerness to ask her how she was. She was utterly swept away under a wave of affection. You smiled at them. It was nice watching their group, if a little sad. Moving had meant leaving your old life behind and your job was busy enough that you hadn’t had an opportunity to get together with anyone.
“Take the prescription,” you said, passing her the piece of paper through her circle of wolves, “and remember what I said about transforming.” She grinned at you and gave a wave before she was swept out the door by her companions.
You hadn’t been expecting to see her for another few weeks, so when you stepped out of the examining room at the end of the day a week and a half later, you were surprised to see her standing there.
=It didn’t take long for your surprise to turn to annoyance. Her sling was not around her arm, but held limply in one hand and there was a sheepish smile on her face. “Let me guess,” you said in a dry voice. “You decided to transform.”
“It wasn’t exactly a decision,” she said, rubbing the back of her neck. “My pack came by on the full moon and I was already struggling not to transform and they really, really wanted me to come with them and it just kind of… happened?”
“Mmhmm,” you said, lifting an eyebrow. She was at least five inches taller than you, but she shrank under your gaze.
“Sorry,” she said. “Uh. I thought maybe I could get away without coming back, but my arm is, uh. Really starting to bother me.”
 You let out a gusty sigh. “Come on in.” You held the door open, letting her walk past you into the examining room.
It didn’t take long to hook the sling back up around her arm and set everything back in place. She remained quiet the entire time, only occasionally looking up at you. Admittedly, she had some very good puppy-dog eyes. Maybe you were just tired, but they were kind of melting your heart.
She was your last patient of the day, so you walked out with her. “You should be careful about driving with that sling,” you told her. She gave a shrug and an easy smile.
“I don’t drive. I walked here. I was just going to walk home.”
“How far away do you live?” you asked. “It’s not far, is it?”
She wasn’t a terribly good liar and her eyes immediately dropped to the ground. “Uh. I mean… not too far.”
You sighed. “Some to my car. I’ll drop you off.”
“I don’t want to put you out,” she said.
“I’ll consider it part of your visit. I don’t want you deciding to run home as a wolf or something,” you said.
“I wouldn’t-” she began, but you turned your steely gaze onto her and she shied away a little. “Okay. Okay. I’ll come with you.”
She hopped into your car and you headed off into the night. “Thanks for this,” she said. “I mean it, Doc.” She paused for a moment. “Hey, I never introduced myself to you. I’m Alice.”
“I know. I looked at your file,” you said. Alice rubbed the back of her neck, turning to stare out the window. You cringed. Damn your poor social skills. “Um. Sorry.” You told her your name. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Yeah! You’re new around here, aren’t you?” Alice asked. You nodded. “Thought so. Hey, maybe I can show you around a little bit? I’ve lived here, like, my whole life.”
“Er,” you hesitated. In that moment, you turned your head to Alice, which was a mistake. Her eyes were in full puppy dog mode and it tugged at your heartstrings like nothing else. “Oh, all right. I’m off tomorrow, if that works for you.”
“Sure does! I’m a ranger in the woods with my packmates, they’ll cover for me if I ask.” Hm. Park ranger. That worked well as a career for a werewolf.
Eventually, you pulled your car to a stop outside of Alice’s house. It was toward the outskirts of town, bordering the woods. She waved to you as she trotted to her house. “I’ll see you tomorrow!” she called.
You drove back home. There was a bundle of nerves buzzing in the pit of your stomach. You pushed it away. This wasn’t a date. Not really. She was just being friendly. Werewolves were like that.
A little after lunch the next day, you drove to Alice’s house. She was waiting for you outside, springing eagerly to your car. “Hey! Glad you’re here. You ready for a tour?”
“Sure,” you said. “Where do you want to start?”
She had you park on the main street of town and hopped out of the car. You hadn’t had a great look at the town the last few times you’d driven by. Now, you noticed exactly how interesting the architecture was. There were few stairs, probably to assist the nagas. A couple perches stood high above the streets for harpies to land on. A couple of stores boasted supplies for magic practice and a few more of them had obvious specialty foods for some of the specialized residents. You noticed more than one shop sporting blood or raw meat on their signs.
“Never been to a fully integrated town before?” Alice asked, taking in your startled expression. You shook your head.
“Afraid not.”
“That’s wild to me. I’ve lived here my whole entire life. I can’t even imagine a place without all monsters living together.”
“It is pretty amazing. All these different people with different needs living together,” you said. Alice nodded.
“Come on, I’m going to give you the full tour!”
She pulled you along street after street, showing off store after store. A few were specific in their target demographic- scale care probably wasn’t going to be useful for anyone but nagas and maybe some demons. But most at least tried to be open to a variety of species. You saw store after store until they blurred together in your mind. Eventually, you found yourself sitting outside a café, Alice chatting with the horned waiter.
The amount of people she knew was astounding. There hadn’t been a single person she hadn’t at least known the name of, and most of them she was at least familiar with. Werewolves were typically friendly, but Alice took it to an extreme you’d never seen before.
“What do you think of the town so far?” she asked, turning to you. “Pretty nice, isn’t it?”
“It’s very nice,” you said. “Very… friendly.”
“We’re all nice here. It’s part of the town’s charm! Plus, my family’s been here for a long, long time. We’re one of the first families here.”
“You helped found the town?” you asked.
“My family did! Not me. I’m not that old.” She made a face and you laughed. “If you’re interested, you can talk to grandma about it. Her mom and dad were some of the original founders.”
“Maybe,” you said. “If you don’t mind seeing more of me, I guess.”
“Nah, I don’t mind! You’re, uh. Really nice.” Alice busied herself with her coffee, so you couldn’t really see her expression.
“Even if I’m strict about your sling?” you said.
“You’re a doctor. You’re supposed to take care of me, even if I’m not always smart enough to do it myself.”
“Well, I know that instincts can be strong for werewolves. I feel sorry I couldn’t do more for you.”
“Well, until medical magic can heal bones in one snap, I don’t think there’s much either of us could do about it. I’m just really happy you were willing to see me after hours. You didn’t have to.”
You shrugged. “I took an oath. I’m never going to leave a patient injured.”
“You’re a good person,” Alice said. There was a tender note in her voice and you could feel your face heating up.
 Alice dragged you around the town for the rest of the day. You saw shop after shop, got introduced to person after person, and by the end of the day, you felt like you’d seen ever last corner of the town.
“Thank you for the tour,” you said as you dropped Alice off at her home. She shrugged.
“Least I could do. And hey, I wouldn’t mind helping you out if you need anything else around town. I know this place like the back of my hand and I’m always willing to help someone out.” She gave you a thumbs up and you smiled back.
“I think I might take you up on that. I’ll see you soon.” You watched as Alice trotted back to her house.
As it turned out, you called on Alice much more often as time went by. It was for little things, really. You would ask her what places in town served the best coffee, where you should go for a good haircut. Then you started asking her for help around the house. It had started with you casually mentioning that there were a few lights in your house that flickered constantly. Alice had said she was good with her hands, so she came over and started fixing things. After that, you’d started mentioning little issues with your house to her. More often than not, she had some idea of how to fix it, and when she didn’t know, she knew someone who did know. You’d been spending an awful lot of time hanging around her. It was honestly the highlight of your day, to get home and spend some time with her.
She stopped by your office a couple weeks later. “Seeing me at work now?” you asked when you saw her walk into the waiting room. She gave her usual friendly smile.
“You said you wanted to look at my arm before you have me the all-clear,” she said. “Figured it would be easier to do it here than in your house.”
“I wouldn’t have minded,” you said. “Come on into the back so I can get a look at you.”
Alice sat down on the examination table and you removed the sling. “How’s the house?” Alice asked as you prodded gently at her arm. “I feel like I’ve fixed everything in there.”
“It’s a pretty old house,” you said. “I guess it needed some fixing up.”
Alice grinned. “Hey. I don’t mind. The company’s good. I guess what I meant was that I’m a little worried.”
You lifted your gaze from her arm. “What about? You arm seems pretty good. I think you can go back to running around as a wolf.”
“Not about that,” Alice said. “I mean, now that your house doesn’t have any more things for me to fix, and my arm’s all fixed up, we don’t have a reason to see each other anymore, right?” She shrugged. “Might have to go and get myself hurt again just so I can see you!”
“Don’t you dare!” you said. Alice snorted with laughter and you felt yourself grinning along. “Hey, if I can think of something else for us to do together, you think you can stop yourself from getting hurt again?”
Alice pretended to think about it. “Maybe. What did you have in mind?”
“Come over to my house on Saturday and you’ll find out. But only if you keep yourself safe,” you said.
“I can do that,” Alice said. She slid off the examination table and grinned at you. “I’ll see you then.”
Real quick scattering of thoughts on Loki 1x02 and x03 before I watch the newest episode. I watched them pretty much at the same time so it’s a two-for-one post. Here be spoilers for episode 3! On mobile so no cut again, sorry.
Spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned.
Okay. In no particular order but attempting to start with ep 2 first:
Loki trying to get info on the Timekeepers and the TVA in ep 2 and being blocked by the most bored archive librarian ever was hilarious. The whole sequence of him trying to get her attention only for her to completely ignore him until he rang the bell was creepy but so funny.
Loki’s reaction to getting the details on Ragnarok made me so sad. :( Same, Loki. SAME. I’m also still gutted Asgard was destroyed and I refuse to even watch the movie ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But him going to look at that in the first place made me wonder if maybe in the back of his mind Loki’s coming up with a plan to save Asgard? (Or at least, one version of Asgard in the multiverse.) I would love that. I want Asgard back in general and was hoping for Thor 4, but having Loki be the one to save Asgard would be SO fitting. He may be adopted but he’s still an Asgardian at heart, truly. Having Loki be the one to save Asgard would be a great way to show him finally acknowledging that and have all the Asgardians acknowledge it too.
We have an official population for MCU Asgard! 9719 people. That fits. It’s about twice the size of a pretty small suburban town. Asgard is SMALL. It just doesn’t have the space for a lot of people. It’s still a city, but Asgard the Realm has other things on it besides just the city, so it can’t have a huge population.
I wonder what the official population of New Asgard is when we see it in Endgame? And how many Asgardians come back post-Blip? This would really all depend on how many people made it through Hela’s rule and onto the ship during Ragnarok- and then half of them would’ve been killed by Thanos in the beginning of Infinity War. Would half of the remainder have been Snapped away at the end of IW, or would Thanos leave them out since he already halved their population? File under questions Marvel will probably never answer. Also file under “Thanos continues to be really bad at math.” (Should probably go look at the New Asgard sign again to check, but I don’t think it listed population.)
Loki annoying Mobius by messing with his salad was great. Loki annoying Mobius in general was great.
Loki letting the goats free in Pompeii made me think he might have a liking for goats, which means I now have a headcanon that Loki was friends with Thor’s goats as a kid and would sometimes let them loose to get their assistance with pranks. Thank you show, for cute kid Loki headcanons.
Tom Hiddleston probably had a BLAST yelling at people in Latin in character as Loki, and good for him!
Sylvie’s entrance sequence at the beginning of the episode with the fight scene vs the TVA set to “I Need a Hero” was amazing. I haven’t seen Shrek in a while but this might just reach the same levels of A+ “I Need A Hero” song usage as the Shrek sequence.
Speaking of the beginning of the episode, the Ren Faire setting was SO good. Great way to get laughs, and it made me want to go to a Ren Faire again.
The Roxxcart setting for the big encounter later in the episode made me flash back on all the times Roxxon’s appeared in the MCU. Two main thoughts: 1. I so want a Jane!Thor movie where the main villain is Dario Agger, evil Roxxon CEO and Minotaur. Preferably working with a better version of Malekith (from another universe probably) like in comics, because as much as I love Thor 2 my one complaint is that their version of Malekith was SO LAME. Especially compared to comics!Malekith. Plus an Agger + Malekith teamup would mean both the Nine Realms AND Earth are in danger, by definition. Thor 5 please, Marvel. 2. I really, really miss Cloak and Dagger and that show deserved so much better.
(Our) Loki’s perpetual insistence that he’s better and that the plot (pun intended) is about him is both funny and also a little sad- because he knows, or at least thinks, that if he stops insisting those things, everyone will stop paying any attention to him whatsoever. And he needs attention.
Poor Mobius probably felt so betrayed at the end of this episode. :(
Onward to episode 3!
This was by far my favorite episode so far. I LOVE Sylvie. I love her and Loki’s dynamic. I love that we get Loki talking to someone he considers an equal about some very personal things, and that Sylvie does the same thing with him. They understand each other in a way nobody else has. Because they’re the same person, sort of. I’ve taken to calling them “alternate reality twins” and that’s what I’ll keep calling them unless told otherwise.
They also annoy each other in a way nobody else can. And it’s hilarious. They look equally annoyed at the other not falling for their tricks and equally annoyed at needing the other’s help before they really start to bond and I LOVE ALL OF IT. I also feel like they adopt each other a lot quicker than either would be willing to admit, and then they’re annoyed at that! Loki yelling “you’re so weird!” at Sylvie made me go “OH they’re bickering like siblings!!!” and that was pretty early on! I’m an only child but that had peak sibling energy to me. Even them trying to trick and outdo each other had sibling energy most of the time.
Their earlier fight when they first get to Lamentis, before they realize where they are, had some VERY quality quips and also really had me wondering who would win in a fight between the two of them. Sylvie seems to have more physical strength, and she’s got a sword instead of daggers so longer reach, but Loki has skill and he has tricks. I think with his skill at magic (he can TELEPORT?! Probably only a few feet and probably limited by where he can see but that’s SO COOL!!! I don’t think we knew he could do that?!) Loki would likely run rings around Sylvie IF there were no people around for her to enchant. And assuming that she wasn’t able to set any traps beforehand, because Sylvie has proven well able to set traps to take down people who should be at a major advantage against her. Otherwise, I think Sylvie would win. She seems to have better physical training than our Loki, and if there were any people around for her to enchant he’d have to contend with them too. And if Sylvie could lay traps ahead of time, then it could go either way (you never can tell with a Loki, much less two) but I think Loki would probably lose. Loki is just as tricky as she is but that seems to be something she’s had a lot of practice in. Loki is more about confusing opponents with illusions and duplicates and talking his way around people. Sylvie sets traps instead, and is more comfortable/better at using brute physical force.
Speaking of enchanting, me while watching episode 2: “Hey, these mind controlling powers remind me of Enchantress’ powers!”
Sylvie in episode 3: calls her powers “enchanting”
Me: “OH.”
So Sylvie seems to be a composite of 3 characters. 1. Lady Loki, as in Loki when identifying as female. (There’s also that time from before they said Loki was genderfluid and a shapeshifter and back when Loki was still evil when he possessed Sif’s body and went by Lady Loki, but we don’t talk about that.) 2. Amora the Enchantress, a major Thor character/villain who uses magic to “enchant” people into doing what she wants-yes this is definitely a cringey “magically enchants people into loving her, consent-issues-out-the-wazoo” evil seductress stereotype in old comics, but it’s gotten better recently. And 3. Sylvie Lushton, the much lesser-known second Enchantress, who was a regular teenage human girl when after a Ragnarok (don’t remember which one, there have been multiple but this would’ve been early 2000s) Loki for shits and giggles decided to make her think she was Amora and give her the powers to match. She was on the Dark Reign-era (aka when Norman Osborn was in charge of SHIELD and the Avengers) version of the Young Avengers, the Young Masters of Evil, and that’s where I know her from. She’s a great character- she genuinely wants to do good and help people, but her brain is a bit messed up by the number Loki did on it, so she gets confused. I believe she’s currently in comic book limbo after Amora found out about her a while back, got pissed at her for stealing her name and her whole Thing, and tossed her somewhere dangerous on the World Tree while saying something about how if she can survive it then she’ll prove she deserves the name Enchantress. She sadly hasn’t been seen since as far as I know.
So each of those characters have similar characteristics with Loki’s Sylvie. Sylvie 1. Is a Loki who is female (Lady Loki), 2. Was presumably raised on Asgard and uses her magic to “enchant” people via a form of mind control into doing what she wants (Amora the Enchantress), 3. Is named Sylvie (Sylvie Lushton, Encanhtress II). Also worth noting that both Amora and Sylvie Lushton have blond hair, and so does the MCU’s Sylvie. All three characters also have green colored magic!
May turn the above bullets into their own post just for informational purposes. Also, when we said we wanted Enchantress in the MCU, this is not what we meant. Stop with the Monkey’s Paw-style wish granting, Marvel! (Looking at you, X-Men comics’ response to us wanting more Wanda.)
Anyway. Will round off with my favorite thing: everything on the train. Everything on the train was WONDERFUL.
Loki telling Sylvie about Frigga and how she taught him magic and then demonstrating the fireworks made me tear up. 🥺 Right in the feels. I miss Frigga a lot. I miss Asgard/the old Thor franchise in general a lot, but this is about Frigga. She was AMAZING and I miss her. Forever love the detail that Tom and Rene came up with the idea on the set of Thor 1 that Frigga is the one who taught Loki magic and fighting and how that informed their characters’ dynamic to the point of it being canonically discussed later. There’s a great Thor 2 deleted scene where Frigga talks to Thor about this exact thing. Frigga is such a fave of mine.
Sylvie telling Loki about her own past in turn made me very curious what her life was like and what the differences are. She seemed to have had a really hard time of it as a kid and I just want to hug her. (I also want to hug Loki, but that isn’t news.) Loki has had a very tough time, but really only after finding out he was adopted. He doesn’t appear to have had many friends on Asgard before (though I headcanon that he was friends with Lorelai before her exile, and since it’s my headcanon I imagine a similar situation with Amora, if not quite as close a friendship because comics Loki gets along better with Lorelai than her sister) but he at least had a family who loved him and who he loved, and a status as a prince that would’ve given him a good life and protection. Sylvie doesn’t seem to have had any of that as a kid. :(
“Surely there were some would-be princesses? Or perhaps a prince?” CANONICALLY BISEXUAL LOKI YES! YES.
Comics Loki is canonically both bisexual and genderfluid! Explicitly discussed on page, multiple times, and expounded on by writers too. (One of the most heartwarming Odin moments for me- yes, Odin does have heartwarming moments!- is when he’s telling his kids he loves them and he says something to the effect of “my son, my daughter, my child who is both.” The latter is Loki, the former are Thor and Angela. I might still be bitter over MCU Hela taking Angela’s place in the family sorry not sorry. This was in Original Sin: Thor and Loki, for anyone wondering.) I tend to default to he/him pronouns when talking about Loki because Loki tends to be male more in appearances, and also partly because it’s what I’m used to, but when Loki is clearly female I’ll of course switch to she/her. I have seen people use they/them pronouns for Loki too. I don’t think Marvel has ever said what pronouns Loki prefers though.
Speaking of which: I realize the “Sex: fluid” on Loki’s info card in episode 1 was probably foreshadowing Sylvie, but I kind of want to also read it as a nod to Loki being genderfluid. (Loki is also a shapeshifter, so gender would = sex in this case.) Whether it would be a nod to specifically comics Loki or also to MCU Loki is anyone’s guess as of now. We’ll find out I guess, or if it turns out to be strictly headcanon than it’s whatever floats your boat. :)
Back to the train scene!! Sylvie loudly protesting that she can’t sleep near people she doesn’t trust and then promptly falling asleep across from Loki a few minutes later made me emotional. ALTERNATE REALITY TWINS. Also VERY much a parallel to Loki falling asleep across from Mobius last episode.
Loki realizing that Asgard was really his home and his family really was his family only to also realize that he’ll never see either again and deciding to handle this by getting ABSOLUTELY DRUNK is SO ASGARDIAN OF HIM. I cannot. He even did the “Another!” *smashes glass* thing just to bring the point home.
Oh gosh, LOKI SINGING IN ASGARDIAN. FEEEEEEELS. I know, it’s actually Norwegian. I wonder a bit why they didn’t use Icelandic instead? Anyway, this was lovely and I love that going by the translation it’s a song of longing to go home, and it mentions Idunn’s apples of immortality. Apparently the full version of the song is going to be on the soundtrack and I’m so excited for that.
Loki’s metaphor of “love is a dagger” was actually quite good, he and Sylvie just lost the thread of it right at the end there. I wrote about this in tags somewhere, I’ll copy it in here later.
Edit: here’s an edited version of what I wrote on this post: This was a great metaphor until it got away from him. So close to the point (heh) and then they veered right away. Let me finish this for them: “Love is a dagger. It’s a weapon for far away and up close. You can see yourself in it. It’s beautiful. You have to give it to the right person.” So what this scene tells us about Loki is that he’s been hurt by love because it hasn’t been real. Or hasn’t felt real to him. Maybe he’s given it to the wrong people, or maybe he couldn’t tell who the right people were. (And if this is in reference to his family then I think he’s still too close to the revelation of his identity to be able to think clearly about the situation. Because his family DID love him! Even Odin. He just lost sight of that with everything happening.) Love is also about trust. And Loki doesn’t trust easily.
I really love this quote and this scene. Kinda want to do a “Love is a dagger” graphic of i ever have time.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if Loki and Sylvie come back to this conversation and come to a more satisfying conclusion. I hope that happens actually.
Sylvie using her headpiece against an opponent in the train fight instantly made me think of Wonder Woman. A+. Also, I haven’t mentioned yet but I love the fact that Sylvie’s headpiece looks exactly like God(dess) of Stories Loki’s from Agent of Asgard. Loki’s Ragnarok headpiece definitely had big AoA Loki vibes, but Sylvie’s headpiece is much closer- mostly it’s smaller, which is very Agent of Asgard Loki in general, but the one horn being cut off is specifically a God(dess) of Stories Loki thing and I love that they pulled from that.
Loki throwing the dagger and missing because he’s drunk was hilarious. Not good for Sylvie, but hilarious to watch. Don’t fight while drunk, Loki. Also, he threw “love” at Sylvie and I laughed when I realized that.
I didn’t realize until I saw a parallel gifset of it why Loki carefully going up to Sylvie after her scream felt so familiar- it’s just like how he went up to Thor after Thor overturned the table in Thor 1. The CONTINUINTY!! Absolutely amazing.
While trying to save the Ark Loki was probably thinking a lot about what he saw in the TVA clips of his own people trying to escape Asgard during Ragnarok and that hits kind of hard.
Loki apparently using telekinesis to stop the column from falling on him and Sylvie threw me off a lot until I saw another gifset that included the moment in Thor 2 (trailers only, I think) when he finds out Frigga is dead and all the furniture close to him breaks and flies away from him. The pose was even the same as when he stopped the column. I think he can sort of... push things away from him? (Almost like a Force Push 🤔) He seems to need to stop and tense up his arms while he does it though. And it doesn’t have the green effect the rest of his magic does, which is odd.
Speaking of Loki’s powers, I’ve said this in tags for sure but I’m so happy they’re FINALLY letting Loki hit people with green magic bolts. He does tend to prefer more subtle uses of magic, but I still can’t believe it took over 4 movies for that to happen. It’s kind of a no-brainer magic attack- probably exactly why Loki prefers other things- but you’d think he would’ve done it at least once after 4 movies.
I saw a post point out that by the end of the episode, Sylvie has lost both her headpiece and her cloak/robe thing, which makes me wonder if she’s going to get a new outfit by the end of the show. Or at least different accessories. I’m also curious if she’s going to take up the Enchantress moniker by the end of the show.
Finishing this with theme analysis and theory time:
The revelation that TVA agents used to be variants and were somehow reprogrammed makes so much sense. There’s something immediately shifty about the idea of 3 Time Keepers dictating the fate of everyone in infinite multiverses, and this just solidifies the hint that the Time Keepers are going to be the overall Big Bads. Which makes sense, narratively! But this shifts the TVA agents from villains to victims. Mobius gets to stay sympathetic and so does Sylvie, AND once the TVA agents find out about their origins it puts the same choice onto them that Loki has. They all have a choice now about who they’re going to be. They’re not who they thought they were, but are they going to let themselves be defined by what other people (here, the Time Keepers) think they should be, or are they going to be who they want to be.
This is exactly what Loki: Agent of Asgard is about, by the way. And I know I said in the last post that Loki’s greatest villain is himself, but I’m going to amend that because I didn’t say it quite right. Loki’s greatest villain is his evil self. Loki the god of evil, the Loki that is the villain. Loki (and all the other Asgardians) in Agent of Asgard is genuinely a god, and AoA tells us that gods are defined by belief- they are what people believe them to be. That’s how they exist. So because so many people believe Loki is an evil villain, the universe tries to twist him to fit that role. The plot of AoA is Loki trying to avoid that fate, to be better, be who he wants to be. It’s a meta story. It’s Loki trying to break free of the narrative he’s been part of up until that point. And eventually he manages to break the fourth wall itself and take control of his own narrative by becoming the god of stories. He controls his own story and it no longer matters what other people think he is, only what he thinks of himself. Nobody else gets to change or define him.
AoA’s villain is a future version of Loki that does go back to being evil. He’s basically the cosmic force- destiny, the narrative itself, etc- that’s trying to fit Loki into the “evil” box personified. Loki is seemingly taking that idea and subbing in a different personification for that same idea of lack of choice: the Time Keepers. We know from the Miss Minutes short in episode 1 that the Time Keepers want one timeline. We don’t know if that’s actually to prevent a multiversal war like the short suggests or if that’s just propaganda. When Loki tries to find out more about the war or about the beginning or end of time in episode 2, he can’t access those documents. Something doesn’t seem right there.
Edit: Also, in episode 2 Loki compares the TVA to Asgard by saying both the TVA agents and Asgardians are equally stupid. The reveal of who the TVA agents are adds a new dimension to that comparison. They both see themselves as guardians of the world around them, special, but really they’re no more special than the people they’re fighting to protect. Or in other words, they’re only as “special” (“heroic,” really) as they make themselves.
Also an edit: damn I just realized the continued stupidity of R*gnarok having Fenris and Odin in the same movie and Odin dies but get killed by Fenris. Asgardians have a saying about watching for wolves’ teeth.
I’ve seen the theory around that Sylvie might be a former TVA agent (which seems to be backed up by the midseason trailer I very belatedly saw, oh my GOD TINY SYLVIE!!!!! But also oh no tiny Sylvie at the TVA :() and I really like that. It makes sense. Maybe she went rogue because she realized the TVA is preventing people from choosing for themselves. Maybe she even knows what it is the Time Keepers actually want. Or maybe she’s doing this just for herself because she didn’t enjoy being brainwashed by the TVA and she doesn’t like being told who to be! That is after all part of “what makes a Loki a Loki,” even if she doesn’t use that name anymore.
I’m also wondering (hoping?) if maybe her being a former TVA agent could explain why she’s a mashup of different characters, instead of it just being Marvel mashing characters together because they can. This is mostly wild speculation, but could the TVA possibly have put multiple people’s timelines/memories inside her head? What if she’s in universe an amalgamation of a Loki, an Amora, and/or a Sylvie?
We’ve had some clips of what looks like a Thor 1 era Loki in front of the throne on Asgard- which looks different to me; maybe Loki redecorated? We’ve also gotten a shot of Loki in front of a ruined NYC skyline, including Avengers Tower. Maybe we’ll get an episode where Loki wins and we’ll see different timelines where he wins in different ways, until he realizes that this isn’t actually what he wants?
Whoops this got long??? Thanks for reading if you read this far!
SO! A week or two ago I got the DVDs for both seasons of "Justice League: The Animated Series", which I hadn't seen in ten years and remembered loving a lot. Spoiler: I still love it a lot. I put off watching it for a while because I was scared I wouldn't, but then I watched it pretty much straight through without even stopping to liveblog.
So. THOUGHTS! ^_^ Any of y'all who've ever shared a fandom with me know I'm always around for one particular character. In this case, that's J'onn J'onzz, the big green guy, whose official comics codename (sensibly not used on the show) is Martian Manhunter.
(There's a bit in one of the tie-in comics where a parent is telling their kid "don't be scared, honey, he won't hurt you, that's the uhh... Martian Maneater..." which has never ceased to amuse me.)
Anyway, we all know I have a tendency to give reviews in the vein of "Good story but no werewolves", and it must be granted that I never did bother watching Justice League Unlimited because Carl Lumbly (J'onn's voice actor, Minnesota born and raised with Jamaican parents, which is apparently how you get a Martian accent I couldn't place to anywhere on Earth) wasn't a regular anymore. But y'know, it's a really good ensemble team too, even if I like Tim Daly's Superman (from Superman: The Animated Series in the same animated universe) a lot better than George Newbern's. Or, well, I did. I haven't heard *him* in ten years either. Anyway! Off topic.
SO ANYWAY. Obviously, spoilers hereabouts, although it's what, fifteen, twenty years old by now? But if you care about spoilers for somewhat elderly TV, you might not be following me anyhow.
So the meta premise, just in case anybody was unfamiliar, is thuswise: First there was Batman: The Animated Series, in which Mark Hamill was the best Joker while not being an asshole as a person, because he is a competent actor and not a dickwad. Then there was Superman: The Animated Series, which I remember as being a delight and I want to watch it again too someday. Then, because apparently if you have Batman and Superman the next step is the entire Justice League, there was this.
The actual premise is, that during an alien invasion of Earth, Superman and Batman rescue a prisoner, J'onn J'onzz, the last survivor of the Martian society the invader aliens wiped out. (J'onn and Clark get little bits of bonding over the last-of-their-kinds thing but I've always wanted more. In a fandom auction I once donated $60 for a fic on the topic, but life happened and I do not hold it against the person. Still a little sad though. It's not something I've ever quite been able to write myself.) J'onn has a whole grab-bag of superpowers including telepathy, with which he summons additional heroes The Flash (speedster, this one is twentyish goofball Wally West), Green Lantern (specifically John Stewart, a black ex-Marine), Wonder Woman, and Hawkgirl (a winged humanoid-alien woman with an energy mace). Together, they fight crime! Mostly.
Specific episodes: I'm going to use "episode" to refer to the runtime covered by a single title so I don't have to say "two-parter" or "three-parter" every single time, because this show had literally only one single-part episode out of the whole 52 episodes.
* Secret Origins, three-parter: In which the Justice League is formed and repels the invasion of Earth by the aliens who wiped out J'onn's people. A very strong start, good character intros. I will never be over the very small worldbuilding fact that J'onn is rescued by Superman and Batman, and has seen nobody else on Earth yet but invader aliens (these are what used to be called the White Martians but the show does not use this name either which I think was a wise choice), so when he shapeshifts from his more alien "natural" Martian form to the look which will be his default for the series, he chooses a briefs-and-cape look because based on the two examples he's seeing, that's what Earth people wear. It's not explicitly called out, but it's a great way to make it a little less... comic-booky that you have no less than three extra-beefy guys with almost identical costume silhouettes here.
I think the arc between Batman and J'onn is one of my favorite parts of this, the way Batman starts out being like "I still don't trust him" and winds up trusting him enough that it's their teamwork which saves the world this go-round. Also, speaking as a fan who likes me some whump, can we talk about the scene where J'onn is being mindprobed with all those tentacles under his skin? I have so fucking many feels about that scene, okay. God, that whole climactic sequence is so damn good. And his tiny lil smile at the end of the last episode! I do love me some microexpressions, nonetheless that they are animated. (I can't draw so I am constantly boggled by just the skill it has to take to draw a character so on-model that varying one line by a few pixels Says Things.)
* In Blackest Night, two-parter: The one where the extremely Kirby-designed cop robots frame Green Lantern into believing he blew up an inhabited planet. Introduces several alien members of the Green Lantern Corps. Flash trying and failing to act as GL's lawyer is fairly embarrassment-squicky to me; many of the things anybody does with Flash on this show are fairly embarrassment-squicky, although he does get some great moments. René Auberjonois does two voices, as a spherical Green Lantern and as the "witness" who helps frame GL. The climactic scene is great -- sometimes the Green Lantern ditty just doesn't work, but between the sound design and the animation and Phil Lamarr's voice acting, this scene blows me away every time. I feel like this one could have been shorter though.
* The Enemy Below, two-parter: In which (blond) Aquaman guest-stars, J'onn takes on the first of many roles where he acts as bait by impersonating a villain's target, and the thing where Aquaman cuts off his own hand to escape a manacle is very tastefully handled for a kids' show. I probably would have found that scene way too suspenseful and traumatic as a kid but I was an extremely sensitive small child. Opinions on this episode: I don't really have many. This universe's Aquaman is a *dick* who appears to live by the rule that you must always fight a superhero when you meet one on the street before explaining your business. I always squee when somebody turns out to be J'onn, because I've usually forgotten. (He usually is people and not animals or, like Odo more than once, a bag. I wonder if he has some conservation of mass thing going on or if it's just easier to animate when you keep your same basic arrangement of limbs.)
* Injustice for All, two-parter: Lex Luthor, dying of kryptonite poisoning, puts together the Injustice Gang to try to destroy the Justice League. He didn't invite the Joker, but Hulk expy and heavy hitter Solomon Grundy is also voiced by Mark Hamill, so the Joker naturally turns up around the point where Luthor captures Batman, commentating on Luthor's misguidedness in keeping Bats alive and generally providing a running peanut gallery. Clancy Brown and Mark Hamill are both always fun, so this one is pretty entertaining.
* Paradise Lost: Wonder Woman backstory-ish episode. A sorcerer turns the other Amazons to stone, then blackmails Diana into stealing four artifacts for him, which he assembles into a key to free the god Hades from Tartarus. Notable mainly for the extreme mangling of Greek mythic cosmology into an aggressively Christian shape. Not good. It does have J'onn and Flash teamed for a bit, which is interesting, and J'onn gets to one-punch a giant magic brass cobra, but that's about all there is to speak for it. It looks like the writer also did my very least favorite two-parter of the whole series, unless this is some sort of Alan Smithee situation, because the name is Joseph Kuhr and I have a half-memory I can't catch that there is *something* more than coincidence in the whole, you know. "Joe-Kuhr" thing?
* War World: Apparently this one was pretty nearly universally hated. I do not hate it, because the concept "Superman and J'onn are accidentally blown across the galaxy together and sold to an alien gladiatorial arena" is something I am 110% down for, but I wanted a lot more interaction between them and possibly a lot more fic. I can't decide if I actually want to ship them, but they're obviously very close and I want to see more than snippets of that, dammit.
That's halfway through season one. Imma go sleep. more later.
Every Single Day (Loki x Sigyn)
“Mama can we get papa a present?” Asked Narvi as he pulled up a chair next to where his mother was cutting vegetables for dinner. “Vali and I saw something at the market, and we wanna get it for papa.” Sigyn ruffled her older son’s wavy black hair as she turned to him, wiping her hands on an old knit towel.
“What present do you want to get papa?” Narvi grabbed her hand, pulling her down to his level, whispering the idea in her ear. “That’s a good idea. What made you want to get him this present?”
“Papa’s been really sad, and I wanna make him feel better, like when he makes me feel better when I’m sad.” Sigyn nodded as she knelt to look at her son.
“Papa’s been having some bad dreams, baby. I think this gift you want to get him will make him feel a lot better. I’ll take you boys to the market tomorrow; how does that sound?” Narvi ecstatically nodded as he launched himself at his mom in a hug, she rubbed his back, knowing what Loki would think of his sweet, caring boys. The next day came quickly, and she was woken up early by the boys, shaking her awake. Loki had left early in the morning to see Thor in New Asgard, as well as visit his other children. She knew that would cheer him up. The boys were shaking with excitement, ready to show mama their find. They quickly grabbed their cloaks and were pulling Sigyn out the door.
Sigyn didn’t usually take the boys to the market with her. She would usually take Ragna in her carrier while Loki stayed at home with the boys, teaching them spells and playing outside with them. She found that when the boys were around, he perked up and forced himself to really look on the positive side.
Sigyn knew he would forever have guilt for the things he had done, the lives that were lost at his hands. She helped him realize that it wasn’t for his enjoyment or pleasure, he did for his survival, so he could live to help raise their children and do right. He had been forced to harm others; it wasn’t because he liked it. With his help in Thanos defeat, it helped prove to others the amount of influence Thanos had over him, and how he was his own person now, no longer under Thanos’ rule.
He still had rapid nightmares though, coming up on the five year anniversary of Thanos defeat, the nightmares were coming more than ever. It didn’t help that the anniversary of Frigga’s death was around the same time. He was struggling with the things he had done, and Sigyn knew that if the boys could show him that it was okay to have struggles, it would be easier to handle.
Sigyn looked around the market, bustling with the neighbors she had grown up with. No holidays were coming up, yet the market was packed. Stands littered the side of the road, the currency being exchanged glittered in the sun. The market looked magical, with trinkets of all shapes and sizes. Veggies and fruits of bright, beautiful colors sat out in spectacle. Sigyn wondered if she should pick up some seeds while she was out looking at all the colorful stands.
Sigyn watched as the boys weaved through the crowd as she tried to keep up with them, they were five years old and had so much more energy than Sigyn. Dealing with one enthusiastic five-year-old was enough, but Sigyn was blessed with two. She still remembered how shocked she and Loki were when they found out they were having twins.
She saw them stop at a small, rackety little shack where a tiny woman stood with a whole collection of trinkets ranging with small potion glasses to large pieces of furniture. Sigyn looked over the items, her eyes trying to find which gift the boys were looking at. She saw Vali get up on his toes to point at their idea.
Sigyn looked over and saw a dingy picture frame with a mirror inside. It was a golden color that would be shiny had it been cleaned. Sigyn didn’t exactly see the sentiment but she knew the boys had a reason behind it.
“Narvi, Vali what exactly is this thing?” She muttered as she picked up the mirror and inspected it. It seemed like an everyday mirror. An everyday mirror that hadn’t been cleaned in five hundred years.
“It’s an enchanted mirror mama. Like the mirror in that movie Uncle Tony showed us.” Narvi exclaimed as Vali nodded along. Sigyn looked over at the decrepit mirror. With a little bit of polish, it would be beautiful. There were small accents of gold littering the cabin, so it wouldn’t be out of place. It still warmed Sigyn’s heart that the boys’ first thought was of their father.
“It shows memories. We thought that since papa is so sad right now, he could see some good memories, to make him feel better.” Sigyn smiled at the boys’ appreciation for their father. Sigyn knew that Loki tried to hide his feelings from the boys, showing only love around them. He didn’t want them to know what happened in the past and all the things he had done.
“Boys, I think papa will love that. You two are so thoughtful.” She knelt down and gently lifted her boys’ chins to look her in the eyes. Their eyes were bright and sweet, and they didn’t have the hardness or pain Loki and Sigyn’s did. They would protect them from any harm they could so that the boys could have a life neither Sigyn nor Loki had.
Sigyn’s childhood was full of hardships. She was raised by her father, Iwaldi, who was a dwarf from Alfheim. Apparently, Freya, Sigyn’s mother had been married to Iwaldi when she met Odr, a wealthy farmer in Asgard. Within a month, Freya had left Iwaldi with all eight girls to marry Odr and live in Asgard. Sigyn had felt betrayed and felt unloved.
While her father was the most loving and hardworking father, it didn’t replace Sigyn’s feelings of not having a mother. All the children playing in the fields with their mothers, cuddling and being taught spells. Sigyn didn’t have that. While Sigyn had seen Freya and talked since then, she had never exactly reconciled with her mother.
Things changed though when Sigyn was about ten, when Astrid walked into their lives. She was a simple healer who worked with Eir, the healer to the All-Mother and All-Father. She had met Iwaldi when he was working on her new metal potion bowl. They had lots in common, Astrid having been in a failed relationship, though she had no children, and Sigyn’s father still figuring out how to raise eight girls on his own. Astrid was able to help with some of the girls more “feminine” problems and aid in some of Iwaldi’s difficulties that came with raising eight girls with only two hands. Soon enough, Astrid and Iwaldi were married, and the whole in Sigyn’s heart somehow felt a bit fuller.
Sigyn gently pulled out a few coins, passing them to the woman.
“You want this mirror?” The boys nodded excitedly, eyes begging for her to accept. “Why don’t you just take it?”
“Ma’am I couldn’t do that. It’s obviously worth quite a lot.” Replied Sigyn, hand still outstretched for the woman to take the money. The woman continued shaking her head, her grayish-brown locks flowing.
“Let me ask first, what is the reason behind purchasing my mirror?” Sigyn stood back, worried she had offended the woman. It was Vali that quickly answered.
“It’s for our father. He’s been sad lately and we wanted to make him feel better. He likes magical things, so we thought this would help.” Sigyn looked at the boys’ smiley faces, knowing that they had made their point clear.
“Well, you want it for a good reason, so just take it. You guys will use it more than I ever did.” Sigyn looked a bit exasperatedly, still quite shocked at the woman’s generosity. The woman handed the boys the mirror, and Vali gently took off his cloak to wrap it up, Narvi holding it tightly against his chest. Sigyn led the boys back home, knowing Loki would be back from New Asgard soon.
They all sat at the table, the boys doing their own things. Vali had a book of spells, pointing out the cool spells he wanted his father to teach him. Spells of shapeshifting and curing animals. Vali’s interest was helping, no matter what. He had a way with animals, especially animals’ others would be scared of. There had been a pack of wolves in the woods behind them that had made a home, and Sigyn realized the missing meat had been Vali sneaking food to them. When Sigyn went to confront him, she found him asleep outside, leaned up against a tree, wolves surrounding him like he was their own cub. Sigyn felt pride welling up inside her. It was quite a shock to show Loki, who’s first thought was how.
Narvi had a pad of paper that he was writing down new plants to put in the garden. He had begged Sigyn to purchase watermelon seeds, since he had been obsessed with watermelon after Tony introduced it to them one night while babysitting them. Narvi was trying to introduce more Midgardian foods, like planting rice or corn. The farmers had found his ideas helpful, and it was actually helping the bias towards Midgardians that some Asgardians still felt. Sigyn had found his excitement almost contagious and loved seeing his bright little face when he saw the new blooms or the stems emerging from the hard ground. Sigyn knew it was something he had gotten from her.
Sigyn sat at the table, Ragna sitting on her lap, happily babbling, and playing with a tiny stuffed bear Thor had gotten her. Her green eyes were entranced with the little bear, staring intently at it. Her blonde curls were a bit longer, now pulled back in a little ponytail. She looked so much like Frigga. She was relatively peaceful, and never really got upset. She had been a quiet baby, and rarely got fussy. She slept easily through the night early and happily cuddled. One of Loki’s favorite pastimes was lying in bed, Ragna snuggled up into his side as he read, peacefully nodding off, listening to her papa’s soft voice. Sigyn couldn’t say she wasn’t a little jealous of their relationship, but Sigyn remembered her relationship with her father being nearly the same.
Loki was extremely nervous when they had found out about Ragna being a girl. He had never had a baby girl before, but the moment that she was born, it was as if all the worry dissipated within them. He held her as she intently slept, and Sigyn saw he was at ease. He wasn’t afraid of her being taken away, or her getting hurt. He was just calm.
Sigyn was awakened from her thoughts to the door opening and the boys hopping from their chairs, running towards their father. He knelt down and opened his arms, the boys jumping in and hugging him. Ragna toddled towards him and he gently scooped her up onto his hip. She knew how to walk, but she was still new to it, so it was a force of habit.
Ragna began wiggling as Loki sat her down as she followed her brothers into the living room. Sigyn looked over at Loki.
“How was the trip?” She muttered as he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close.
“It was nice seeing them. We discussed some treaties between Jotunheim to return the Casket, but it’s Val’s choice now. How were the boys?” Sigyn nudged into him as he rubbed his hands down her back.
“I’m glad you're back.” She sighed. Loki pulled back, looking down at her with a grin.
“Were they that bad?” He chuckled as she shook her head.
“No, they’re just excited.” Loki looked confused before they heard the pitter patter of feet running on the hardwood. They looked over to see Vali holding a folded-up cloak while Narvi stood next to him, his hands behind his back.
“Is this what they were excited about?” He knelt down to reach their height.
“Papa, we got you a present.” Sigyn saw Loki look a bit taken aback, as if he was wondering if he missed a holiday or something. Was it his birthday and he had completely forgotten?
“That’s lovely darlings, but what for?” The boys looked over at their mother, as if waiting for her to explain it. They were still little; their mother could describe their idea in perfect detail.
“When you took the boys to the market last week, the boys saw something they wanted to get you to cheer you up.” She said as she gently rubbed his shoulder. He looked at the small gift, wrapped up in paper. He gently opened it, carefully, unsure of what it was. He carefully inspected it. It was a little mirror, not too large. It was shiny and gold, and reminded him of some of the mirrors back in Asgard. Other than that, it looked like the average mirror.
“Darlings, it’s lovely.” He stopped, a forced smile as he looked over at the boys excited grins. “What is it exactly?”
“It’s an enchanted mirror!” Exclaimed Vali, bobbing up and down, holding onto his brother, who was nodding with the same excitement.
“It’s a mirror that shows memories. They knew something was wrong, and wanted to make you feel better like you make them feel better.” Loki looked speechless, looking at his family. Narvi and Vali excitedly hold onto each other, waiting for his reaction, Ragna playing with the discarded paper, and Sigyn smiling over them. “Maybe this can help you remember the good times.”
“Boys..” He didn’t know what to say. He had always tried to hide his emotions, afraid to worry his family. The boys, as old as they were, still didn’t understand what he went through, and he didn’t want them too. He worried it would change the way they thought about him. All he could do was reach out and hug them, the words not enough to show his appreciation.
“Do you like it?” Muttered Narvi into Loki’s shoulder, his arms wrapped tightly around him.
“I love it. It was very thoughtful of you boys to think about me.”
“Maybe you can see grandma with that mirror.” Whispered Vali, his eyes bright with the thought of seeing what his grandma possibly looked like. Loki regretted the boys never having her. It wasn’t his fault, but the boys didn’t have a grandmother. Sigyn’s mother was always in and out of her life and Sigyn didn’t want her to do the same to the boys. Frigga though, would have adored them. She would have spoiled them, being there all the time. She likely would’ve delivered them had she been there. Anytime he had a question, she would be there, reassuring him that he was doing fantastic. He and his mother had their struggles, but he loved her and he missed her more than ever right now.
“Maybe darling. You know, you three are a lot like her. Narvi, you have her blonde hair, though it’s technically your mother’s. She also loved gardening, and would have been thrilled to garden with you. Vali, she would be reading to you everyday, and would’ve shared your interest in spells. Ragna looks so much like her with her blonde curls. Everyday you remind me of her, and she would have loved you.” He held onto his boys, rubbing the mirror. He closed his eyes, a hand rested in the glass as the boys gasped. He quickly opened his eyes and saw it.
It was surely his memory. It was his mother and him. He was young, maybe ten or eleven, and they were out in the garden. His mother could’ve had someone tend to her garden, but she always preferred to do it herself. Being from Vanaheim, they favored nature and she grew up outside, just like Sigyn. He was sitting on the bench, reading to his mother. He was babbling about some spell and his mother just stood intently listening. He always felt heard when it came to her.
“Is that grandma?” Pointed Vali. Loki nodded, a teary smile came to his face. How he had wished to see her face again. To just apologize to her for what he had done, explain to her why he did what he did.
“She’s really pretty.” Muttered Narvi, staring intently. He had always imagined what his grandmother looked like. Papa had explained to him what she looked like. How she had blonde hair like mama and bright eyes.
“She was beautiful, but she was so much more than that. She was really intelligent, and taught me everything I know. She was also considerate and compassionate. When she met your mama, she adored her and when we married, she was so excited for us to have kids. She would have loved you guys so much. She would have gotten you everything we told her not to. She wouldn’t care. She would do anything to make you guys happy, no matter the cost.”
“Do you miss her papa?”
“Every single day.”
DGM Theory- How The Earl Split
Warning: The following theory may be clunky, confusing, spoilery, and a little gross- I already discussed why Mana and Nea were created, now I am giving my theories on how. Usually how a baby comes into the world is not pleasant for those sensitive to body functions. It is apparent they were not born the normal way but still... warning ahead- a man split into two babies and it probably ain’t pretty...
There are a couple different ways the first Earl (who I will refer to as Adam. The Suit will be called the Suit) may have split into two physical beings. I have 3 theories regarding this. I will put them down in order of likeliness and give evidence to why each is likely. Before we dive deeper into madness, lets observe the new borns.
Tumblr media
Here we see the infants are on top of the clothes on what once was the 7,000 year old, long haired, unchanging Earl.There are also 2 moth or butterfly  creatures flying over them which one baby is trying to catch. Hoshino uses the baby reaching for the butterfly as a means of first introducing the audience to the truth of Mana and Nea’s existence and Tyki was given butterfly golems by the Earl so those butterflies may be important. Who knows yet. Now onto the theories.
1. Turned to fog (or butterflies if Adam’s fate was like Emily’s in the Corpse Bride)
We’ve seen any akuma victims who’s clothes were left behind just like this after they disintegrated.
And we know from the Alma Karma arc that akuma are technically clones of the Earl.
Tumblr media
To give this theory a bit more merit, we also see Allen’s arm upon destruction turn to fog before returning itself to its full state of clown crown and Jasdevi who some have theorized to be connected by the twins’ song about each other (cradle becomes two and one gets lost to the fog) forming after the twins destroy each other and become fog.
We may even see fog during Nea’s final moments with Mana and the suit (possibly in the dream world where Mana keeps running into the suit and Allen sees Cross due to his hair and outfit change) ontop of the fact that the Earl has the ability to vaporize people, perhaps creating a fog as well. Although, splitting into a whole bunch of butterflies or moths could also be possible.
2.Stomach explosion (the gross and frightening one)
This may seem unlikely but we have seen two instances of an akuma- stomach exploding. The first time we see it is in Mater when the Level 2 shapeshifting akuma transformed into sand and tried to trap Allen inside of him. Allen quickly managed to claw his way out the front.
Meanwhile, in the Destruction of the Order arc, we see the birth (quite literally) of a level 4 akuma after a level 3 giant akuma shapeshifted itself into a heavily pregnant woman that wouldn’t you know it- had its stomach explode when the akuma came out.
Tumblr media
(I’m already scared of the pregnancy vore going to come or has already come because of this...)
Its odd that the so far final transformation of akuma results in a pregnant lady. It only gets weirder when you remember that the pudgy Earl suit was said by even Hoshino herself not to be fat, but that the plumpiness would become important...
I’ll leave any other connections you notice to you. I’ll leave you with just one more I think is relevant- Helvaslaka described the innocence she guards as Clown Crown was forming in some translations reacting, “like a baby kicking in the womb.” So... don’t feel alarmed and I am terribly sorry if I made the Earl/ the suit any weirder for you.
3. Cornelia
Upon Timcampy’s destruction by the hand of Apocrypos (so sad!!!!), little hands came out of Tim’s splinter wound (caused by a piece of bark from Cornelia) taking over his body and splitting him in half.
If a splinter of Cornelia destroyed Tim, the whole tree has the potential to cause damage to a frequent supernatural visitor who may’ve one day accidentally (or purposefully) got a splinter or cut off the tree.
We’ve seen these hands twice before. Twice with Helvaslaska ...
Tumblr media
And at least once with an akuma.
Tumblr media
These theories could all be correct or none of them could be. For all we know, Apocrypos could’ve punched Adam in the stomach and had a negative reaction to the innocence that way or (like on my theory why Adam split) split simply because he was distressed between feelings explaining why Nea was probably the more hateful of the twins and Mana seemed more accepting twins. I hope I have enlightened you and not traumatized anyone’s innocent mind not prepared for such madness. Hope you have a good day.
