If you have more thoughts about Warsaw Misto and Jellicle Demeter (or just more about your mafia AU in general) I would love to hear it, that sounds so chaotic
I do have some! Namely, the general timeline of their relationship and how it fits in the general plot
Initially this ship started cuz I wanted to somehow introduce Demeter into the story, and I figured out this would make a pretty solid bit that would work nicely with the main plot. The plot being a secret will they-won't they relationship drama between Warsaw Misto (Feliks) and Jellicle Munk who come from 2 mafia families that have a bit shaky but long-lasting truce, with a sprinkle of Macavity causing chaos. They do get together after some back and forth, but ultimately the relationship implodes, with only a few people knowing it ever was a thing, and Feliks moves to New York to get away from it all.
After some time there, he meets Demeter, freshly broke and after a messy break-up with her fiancé. They meet online and strike a deal, as she needs money and he wants to look like he's dating someone to avoid questions about his love life. Plus, he just wants someone not from his circle to spend time with and also they both can indirectly get back at their exes by showing how they supposedly moved on and are doing great.
Pretty quickly into their fake dating they actually become good friends because they genuinely like spending time together, and besides bonding over their recent bad breakups they have quite a few shared interests, the main one being their shared love for dancing. Plus, Demeter has a chance to try herself in some more or less legal business dealings, and she discovers she may be into it. They meet each other's friends and families and with this Feliks gets a little taste of a normal life, while she gets a few opportunities for a new life and career. And a few months into their "relationship" they kinda indirectly kickstart actual relationships for each other.
They get invited to tuggoffelees wedding back in UK thanks to Feliks being Misto's cousin, where Demeter meets Munk and Bomba. While they're talking in a bigger group Munk jokes Feliks is lucky to date Deme and that if he wasn't he himself would ask her out. To which Deme jokes back referencing one of the things Munk and Feliks broke up over, implying she knows what happened. This leads to Munk having a few drinks for courage and confronting Feliks later at the party, which a few weeks and one party later results in them giving their relationship another chance.
At the same time Demeter gets introduced to Bomba, and they have themselves a bit of a summer romance that turns into an actual, at first long distance relationship. It happens while Deme and Feliks still pretend date each other for a few months longer, and help each other a bit with figuring out the relationships before ultimately officially breaking up, after about a year/year and a bit of fake dating. They do continue their friendship tho and Feliks gets to be godfather of one of her kids
So yeah, this started as just as temporary, kinda fake side ship, but I actually enjoyed playing with it and got attached XD Plus I think they have a fun dynamic, two smart, bit petty people going together through a bit of a life reset, supporting each other, discovering things and having quite a bit of fun along the way. And also starting the relationship to pretend to be all good and happy with life and ultimately actually getting there with the other's help

I have a love-hate relationship with those posts that are like "if you want your friend group to do this thing, be the one to organize that thing!" "you have to be the one to text first" "if you want genuine friendships, the fact is that you have to put in the work." I get it, yeah, and I agree, connections come easier when you're reaching out. but I have spent my entire life in draining, one-sided, often toxic relationships, desperately putting every last ounce of my energy into maintaining and improving relationships that I never get anything close to the same amount of effort out of. it is fucking exhausting. boyfriends, best friends, family members, I have had to fight, tooth and nail, to have a fulfilling relationship with. and the vast majority of those relationships don't exist anymore, because the second my effort level dropped, the relationship evaporated, because the other person wouldn't pick up the slack and we just weren't able to recover, no matter what I did. I am tired. so, so tired, and so, so lonely, but I just can't make myself do it anymore. I can't make myself text another group chat and get ignored day after day. if I get another "sorry for the late reply, I'm not available at that time but can we reschedule :)" text two days after I send an invite, I'm going to implode. I've had enough of clinging to people that can't even reach for me. I've had enough of vain attempts at arranging get togethers. I've had enough of being the organizer, the first texter, the planner, the rock. I can't even stand making small talk in my classes anymore, because the second I stop, the whole table goes silent. I've never had a friend that wasn't either using me, or someone I felt responsible for. I've never had a friend I could depend on, because the ones I could bring my problems to either brushed them off or used them to manipulate me, and the others I needed to be there for, so I couldn't make them feel like I wasn't capable of doing so. I've never had a friend willing to put the same amount of effort into our relationship, even for a little while, as I was routinely putting in just to keep it alive. I know there are people out there who would. I know there are people out there who could be everything I've ever wanted in a friend, a partner, whatever. I'm just tired. I can't do it anymore. I can't continue to be the one to do the work. I think about those goddamn posts every time I wish my lab mates were more talkative, my project group would actually meet in person, my coworker would text or even ask for my instagram. I know I don't have friends because I don't try to make friends. but I'm sick of it. and I say that and I still try. but every time I realize I'm the only one really conversing, and the three people at my lab table are just giving me "uh huh's" and "that's crazy's," it feels like getting punched in the gut. every time I send a message to my shitty roommates and it goes unanswered for days I feel like I'm losing my mind. I am burning myself up just trying to find someone to get lunch with me. I don't understand how other people do it. the mental illness probably isn't helping. but I no longer put any more effort into my friendships than I'm getting back, and it's depressing as hell that I can already see them fading. I stop trying to reach out to new friends when they aren't doing the same for me. I cried three times writing this stupid post, and all I can think about is how this might make me toxic, or lazy, or in some other way the problem. maybe it does. I don't know. I'm tired. I'm lonely. I can't do it anymore. maybe I'm being unrealistic. maybe I'm doing something wrong. I don't know. but just once, I want someone to put in the effort for me.

Moon Signs Pt. 2
Hi guys here’s part 2 of the moon sign series! After I post this, I’m going to be focusing more on answering your questions, I have a lot to answer. Thanks so much for all the support! Without further ado, here’s Libra through Pisces moons!
🌵Libra Moon: You guys LOVE attention, and you don’t even try to hide it LMAO. One of my good friends is a Libra moon and he literally loves to say outlandish things just to get a reaction from us and to get attention from us if we’re not talking to him enough in a conversation. Libra moons also love relationships and if underdeveloped they may feel incomplete without one. They can also be very dependent on their partner for happiness as well. However, they are romantic and in love with love. They’re also extremely sensitive and are very feminine. Even in men, it gives them a more feminine touch to their personality. They also hold their morals in very high regard. They have their set morals and won’t change them for anything or anyone. They also tend to hate conflict and usually shy away from confrontation. They’re also too nice, WAYYYYYY too nice. You guys need to be more assertive LMAO. They’re also extremely optimistic and if they don’t believe in that particular way they at least try to be optimistic with others. They’re always reminding you the glass is half full. Also, Libra moons are mad clingy. Even with those they’re not dating LMAO. My Libra moon friend whenever I try to leave the FaceTime Call, he’s like “Don’t go... :(”. They just love to be around the ones they love. They’re also in love with beauty, and all things beautiful in the world. They’re lovers of music, art, film, and literature. Libra moons also have a softness in their eyes, I can’t describe it. This girl I used to like has a Libra moon and her eyes were just so soft. They’re also extremely indecisive, they tend to flip flop between who they wanna be and what they wanna do. They also aren’t shy when it comes to compliments, they will compliment TF out of you. They’re the best hype man. They also put others before themselves a lot, and can be very shy upon first meeting them. However once they feel comfortable around you they open up. One last thing, I feel like they tend to like anyone who’s nice to them...don’t attack me. LMAO.
🌵Scorpio Moon: I feel like Scorpio moons have about ten different playlists relating to their emotions and still won’t open up to anyone about how they feel. Scorpio moons I feel have such intense emotions that they just don’t deal with them and they tend to implode after a while. I relate to them a lot in that respect tbh with my Sun square Moon, because that’s how I am. You guys are also super passionate and super creative. Every Scorpio moon I’ve met has been really creative in some way whether it be makeup, fashion style, or artwork. I’ve also noticed that this is a very alluring placement, there’s this intriguing way about them, and like Aries Moons, they have a fire in their eyes. Their gaze is INTENSE. They’re also very selective with who they let close to them, they don’t let just anybody in. They’re also very good at reading other people and seeing people’s true intentions. They have an extremely good intuition. If underdeveloped this can be used to manipulate other people, as well as being compulsive liars. Scorpio moons are also very protective over the ones they love. If you mess with anyone they care about, they will kill you. End of story. Also I feel like every Scorpio moon I’ve met has been through the wringer, like they’ve really had some hard experiences, it’s so sad to me. Scorpio moons are also extremely stubborn, remember this is a fixed sign. Scorpio moons ain’t playing, once they’ve settled on something, they’re not budging. Also, can we just say, masters at investigating people. These are the friends you want stalking your ex’s social media. They will find out everything. They’re also really good psychologists as well, almost all the Scorpio moons I’ve met are actually Psychology majors LMAO. They’re very good at finding the root causes of people’s issues. I also feel like Scorpio moons undergo a lot of transformations in their lives. I’ve known a Scorpio moon for about 10 years now and he’s undergone so many different transformations in his life. Mentally and physically. They’re also extremely sarcastic and have a tendency to be pessimistic. They’re also mad scary when angry. I’ve seen them angry before, as an Aries moon, even I get a little scared.... love y’all tho.
🌵Sagittarius Moon: The funniest people ever. Sagittarius moons always have me laughing my ass off. Their sense of humor is very diverse. They tend to stick with sarcasm and like to say outlandish things to make people laugh. Also, I feel like Sagittarius moons tend to go for science/math oriented careers or at least have an interest in those subjects. I know four Sag moons, and they’re all in STEM it’s actually crazy. They’re also extremely blunt and honest, especially when it comes to people they don’t like LMAO. They make it very clear when they don’t like someone, it’s so funny. They’re also just so much fun, like they’re genuinely so much fun to hang out with. I feel like I’ve never not had a good time hanging out with a Sagittarius moon. I feel like Sag moons however tend to struggle with asserting themselves a lot of times, until they get really fed up.  They’re very much go with the flow kinda people, and this can be to their detriment especially with the ones they love, they don’t wanna rock the boat. However, they also make really good mediators and are good at settling arguments. They also really like to travel, and likely have traveled a lot. All the Sagittarius moons I know have traveled to at least 4+ countries. They love traveling the world, and I’ve also noticed move or want to move far away from their childhood home. They wanna explore everything the world has to offer. My cousin who’s a Sag moon left her parents’ house to move a few states away and my other friend who’s a Sag moon wants to move to the other side of the country. These individuals also tend to like foreign culture as well. I’ve noticed Sagittarius moons tend to like foreign music or foreign tv shows. I feel like they also tend to ignore their emotions when they get sad and just don’t like to deal with their emotions. They also don’t like to talk about how they feel and will brush sad things off because it’s just too upsetting for them. However, once the emotions boil over, just like their anger, they will blow up LMAO. I’ve also noticed that they’re really good at teaching people things? Like my Sag moon friend explained this Chemistry equation to me I couldn’t understand and I got it after 10 minutes. Natural teachers.
🌵 Capricorn Moon: Guys, it’s okay to open up. You don’t have to pretend to be so strong all the time, you’re not weak for showing your emotions. Anyway, Cap moons have high expectations for people, and will not tolerate any bs from people. I seriously commend them for that. I feel like Cap moons struggle with how their points are being expressed, they can say one thing, but it’s seen as something else. While Capricorn moons may struggle with expressing their emotions, I haven’t found them to be closed off or cold when meeting them. Every Capricorn moon I’ve met has warmed up to me very quickly and have been super nice. I feel like they’re very friendly and once they have a conversation with you they’re really warm and kind. Also, they’re not afraid of anything?? Except for showing their feelings maybe. But like, they’re so open to trying new things like scary rollercoasters and aren’t afraid to fight for themselves if they have to. Also, super fucking ambitious. I wish I could be ambitious. These people will really have like three jobs, be in school, and tend to household responsibilities. I don’t know how you guys do it. Now everyone says Capricorn moons are just analytical and systematic when confronted with conflict, and I personally haven’t found that to be true. If they feel wronged?? Nah. They’re not going to be systematic or logical or anything. They will go off. As for personal challenges, yes they’ll be more analytical. But I feel like everyone boils down Cap moons to emotionless and machine-like nerds, which I find to be very untrue. Capricorn moons are very soft once they’re vulnerable with you, and genuinely feel like they’re bothering people when they show their emotions and feel weak for showing them. Also I’ve noticed that their mom is a big motivator for their success. Their moms always push them to do their best in work and school. If poorly aspected, they could feel too pressured by their moms to do well. Also, they’re so underrated for being funny. They have a really dry sense of humor and it’s well developed. I also feel like they get overlooked for putting others before themselves, when it comes to the people they love they’ll do anything for them. Brb gonna go give my Cap moon friends a hug.
🌵Aquarius Moon: You guys are just so unique. There’s something unique about each and every Aquarius moon, whether it’s a quirk or a hobby. These people are literally the best to talk to. It’s so easy to have a conversation with them, they really can talk about anything. I’ve also noticed that Aquarius moons tend to be interested in astrology and tarot and things of that kind. Every Aquarius moon Ive met has been really interested in it, and even involved in it. I feel like they also have big dreams, and have big plans for themselves. Aquarius moons also love to get lost in their music and tend to use it as an escape. This can be a problem because they tend to avoid dealing with their feelings. They also go between reacting to things really heavily vs not reacting at all. It just seems like it goes back and forth. They speak up with things are unjust however only to their friends or online. They just don’t like to deal with face to face conflict in that regard. They also give really great advice. My best friend is an Aquarius moon and she always gives me the best advice. She knows me better than I know myself tbh. I feel like Aquarius moons relish in being unique LMAO. I’m 99% sure they had an “I’m not like other girls” phase. I feel like this placement always tends to space out and daydream a lot. They also aren’t the types to just lash out at people, their anger is more subtle (unless they have other placements of course). I feel like Aquarius moons also have a lot of friends but they tend to have a small group of friends that they tend to be super super close with. They’re also...really charming? I don’t know what it is, but like every single one I’ve met has been really charming and likable. They also have a really goofy sense of humor and love to do wild shit to make people laugh. I feel like some downsides of Aquarius moons are that they tend to be too analytical and rationalize things too much, and they inadvertently invalidate other people’s feelings. Aquarius moons are also super open minded to all opinions. I have a friend who I tend to disagree with on certain issues but they’ve always been open to hearing my opinion. They also love to travel too. I’ve noticed that as well.
🌵Pisces Moon: To think, I was almost one of you guys. No seriously I almost was, if I were born four hours earlier I would’ve been a Pisces moon LMAO. Anyhoo, Pisces moons are just so sweet. I don’t know how else to start, they literally are the sweetest people and give off this mystical type of aura. They’re very otherworldly. Also, these people daydream 24/7. They put Aquarius moons to shame in daydreaming. This girl I like is a Pisces moon and I always catch her daydreaming LMAO. They’re also extremely sensitive too and feel things so deeply. They try to hide how they feel from people, but you can see it in their eyes. I can always tell when my Pisces moon friend is upset just by the look in her eyes. They also tend to be introverted and it takes a while for them to warm up to someone. My co-worker is a Pisces moon and it took 2 weeks for her to finally start talking to me LMAO. They also have really vivid and wild dreams too. I feel like my Pisces moon friend is always telling me about some wild dream they had like that they were in a castle or in an ocean. They also can be really moody, they can be fine one second and then get really sad out of nowhere. Their emotions are like the ocean. I feel like another downside of Pisces Moons are that they can be very manipulative however this is really with any underdeveloped water moon/sun placement. I also feel like they tend to be escapists a lot. They don’t like to deal with reality a lot, and they see the best in everything and everyone even if it’s to their demise. They’re also super friendly and are nice to everyone they meet, even if they’re reserved they’re still very sweet. They’re also extremely creative too, I feel like every Pisces moon I’ve ever met has some sort of creative hobby. My co-worker who’s a Pisces moon is working on becoming a photographer and her stuff is AMAZING. I think that’s because they see the best in the world and the beauty in everything; and they know how to show that in their work so others can see the world like they do. They’re also super empathetic and are really good listeners. You can talk to them about anything and feel understood. :)
So this wraps up my moon sign series! I hope you guys liked it! Again, don’t take offense these are just my opinions on each moon sign! Hope you guys enjoyed, and if you don’t see your moon sign here it’s likely in part one.

gold rush (Tom Holland)
Tumblr media
All of my fics are LGBT and PoC friendly. Inspired by gold rush by Taylor Swift. Everybody wants Tom, but you don’t like a gold rush. WC: 2.7K words.
“Y/N, I just wanted to say again, thank you for coming in today and doing this for us.” Tom’s dad, Dominic, said as he displaced papers across desks, earl grey swaying like an angry lake in his mug. Approaching footsteps hinted that the star of the show was soon to be hold. In other words, Tom was running behind.
The door creaked and light from the corridor crept through like Sun peeping through curtains of the Night. It refusing to shut after Tom budged and pushed was maybe divine punishment for him being so late, and maybe provided the bit of laughter you needed after rolling out of bed at 6am for this, for him. When the door eventually did close, Tom turned around and saw you in all your glory; much taller than he remembered, more assured than he’d imagined, and more gorgeous than drowned out and half forgotten memories of you could ever fabricate.
You and Tom ran in the same social circles, but hadn’t seen each other since Tom’s career imploded when you were both nineteen. As much as Tom felt he owed his heart and soul to the UK, he maintained an almost permanent fixture on the States. It started to feel like his trips back to England were in fact actual holiday. At one point, you were in love with Tom, but meeting became a constant battle of ‘here, not there’ and your heart grew tired of the duck and goose chase. The gravity of the situation was too much for you, whom hadn’t even tasted their twenties yet.
“Y/N!” Tom launched at you and held you in tight embrace. You let go of the hug, but he didn’t. And his dad watched on in momentary awe as you wrapped your arms around Tom once again, who breathed in every part of you with unwavering adoration.
“Tom!” You rubbed along his back as he hummed. “When I was told we were gonna have a ghost writer, I had no idea it was gonna be you.”
Tom and his dad (being an author) were collaborating on a book, a million dollar idea that’d been years in the making. Tom had stalled it, his dad told you out of simple insecurity. Now that the world was a stage, he was worried people would criticise his dyslexia with every line he wrote, that every stroke of his pen would reveal him as a rare type of monster that lacked intellect, he pondered that he wasn’t insightful enough in some way. His dad may have written a book about Tom outfaming him, but Tom felt like he’d always live in Dom’s shadow in this respect. Fresh from Oxford with an English Bachelor’s degree, Dom employed you to get grease on the gears to commence writing. Tom had always come out of his shell when you were around.
Your writing session lasted from 8 til noon, when Tom had promo with LadBible or Entertainment Weekly or whoever had bid the highest from his presence that day.
The door swung open and three men in all black and mics saddled around their waists called for and led Tom out of the room.
“Tom, session’s over. We need to get you to your BBC promo in 30 and we’re already running behind schedule.’ One cloaked Tom in a jacket you were sure was more expensive than your own home and another whispered something into a walkie talkie: “Holland is on the move. Check the back entrance is clear.” With that, Tom rose to his feet and left completely opposite of the way you came in. Without a word, no goodbye.
You and Dom left the building together around ten minutes later, where ten men with large cameras stood, lenses focused on you, glaring at you, not sure what to make of you. One of the men screams “Hey! You dating Tom Holland” and after that all you hear is clicks and all you see is bright flashing lights and Dom clenches your hand and leads you to your taxi cab.
The next time you see Tom is sooner than expected. The Hollands were hosting a last minute dinner party and you found yourself sitting opposite Tom, feeling his hard, hot and heavy gaze on you. The tension in the room was so thick not even a chainsaw cut through.
“Next topic,” You picked up a card from the deck and read it aloud. “Politics!” You said devilishly as you sip on what was left of the white wine in your cup, and now that your thought process is blurred; Tom’s longing gaze puts you at dismay.
“Fuck!” Harry exploded, and you hear their mother hiss. “Fuck I hate politics, there’s no making it out alive!” he remarked as he drummed on the table cloth, drunken excitement brewing a new energy in the room.
You go on like this for hours until dinner party is dinner party no more. And while Dom, Nikki and all of Tom’s siblings have chosen to exit stage left, it’s 1am and you and Tom have yet to leave the scene.
Tom sets down your deck of debate cards in favour of a genuine moment.
“What are you doing these days, Y/N?” Tom’s not looking at you, he’s looking at your knee as he rubs circles on it. You want to look down there too, see what he finds so intriguing; but you decide against it in fear you might spontaneously combust. You don’t know if this moment’s supposed to be intimate or innocent and you’re not sure if you want to find out.
So you put up a wall.
“I should be asking you the same thing, Holland.” You say sarcastically. “What have you been doing these days? I haven’t seen you around.” Your eyebrows scrunched up together but you’ve got a big, idiot grin on your face that’s more than telling. Tom giggles at your facetiousness.
Tom scratches his head in mock thought. He never clocks out, always putting on a show. “I don’t know - uh.” You’re laughing before Tom has even told the punchline, ‘cause I guess anything’s funny when it’s said by the one you love.”I’m kind of -” He snatches an old Spiderman comic off the floor. “I’m kinda doing this acting thing at the moment. Playing, y’know, this guy.”
“Well I wish you better luck in the future.” Tom has stopped rubbing circles but instead places his two hands on your knees as you rock back in laughter.
“I’m serious, Y/N. What do you do now?”
“Um.” You suddenly forgot your entire career as Tom, with no shade of subtlety, stares right into your soul. “I got my degree. I write like little stories, y’know? Have you ever heard of folklore?”
Tom shook his head.
“They’re like these little, old beautiful myths. And I write them for a living. And if I’m lucky, they get published in The Times. If I’m even luckier, I get to work with my old best friend - ” You feel your world stop temporarily as you call Tom your ‘best friend’ and you pause for all of 0.3 seconds to register Tom’s reaction but his face doesn’t flinch. “-Writing a book with him and his dad.” And that makes Tom smile. So he doesn’t have to tell you he missed you, you just know.
‘Undivided appearance’ and ‘undivided attention’ don’t necessarily mean the same thing in Hollywood as they do in real life, and you learn that the hard way in your writing session.
Tom may have been sat right next to you, but he was miles away. He was doing press with Cosmo, who hadn’t stopped tagging him with blue hearts on his Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat stories, causing his phone to go off every two seconds. You looked at the phone and then at him who then got the hint and put it on silent. Then there was a knock on the door. Tom rushed to open it, expecting that Dom had sent down a food delivery to egg you on finishing this chapter. You rehashed his childhood like a million times - in fact, you were part of it - so when it came to writing the parts that hurt, where you took a more supporting role in his life, you needed his help. The fact is, the knock at the door had come from one of Tom’s men (Tom liked to call him Man In Black no. 3) who hadn’t said as much as a ‘hi’ before he made his announcement. “Tom, you’re on the line with Cosmo in 10.” The man stepped back and pulled out his walkie talkie, “Holland knows he’s on the line with Cosmo at 10.” And then continued to pace around the hallway.
Cosmo called as he said they would and you almost felt for. second like tom might enjoy an entertainment magazine’s company more than yours. The interviewer made glaring comments and passive flirts at Tom who just blushed and chuckled and sipped his water like the woman on the phone calling him ‘hot’ was just too much to handle. At one point, she says: “What must it be like to grow up that beautiful, Tom? With your hair falling into place like dominoes.” You’re not expecting it when Tom tilts the phone so you’re in view. “Well I’m with the most beautiful being on Earth right now so..” Tom looks at you as if to ask ‘is this okay?” and you know it’s too late for these kind of questions, because that moment is headline fodder, so you smile not to make him feel bad for opening Pandora’s box. But Tom is merciless and likes to rub salt in the wound. “This is Y/N! Y/N’s helping me write the book with my Dad! We go way back.” He covers his mouth as soon as he says it. “Shit! They’re not supposed to know about the book yet.”
This is the moment, you think, where you believe when they say your first love is the one you never let go.
And you can’t think of anything purer than the love you have for him.
Tom thinks being on land is boring. He likes being strung from chords 30 feet in the air, and drowning in despair through scenes of emotional turmoil. You want to tell him you’re an arrow from Cupid’s bow about to reach him, but you couldn’t recover from the splinters if Tom shut you down. After all, Tom was a gold rush. A treasure that everyone had discovered but nobody owned. How precious is a jewel that anybody could take home with them?
Tom had invited you to a visit to Brighton with him, a city near the coast, for some inspiration on writing his section of the book.
You accepted. And because you did, you found yourself at the beginning of the end, on Tom’s boat in Brighton. “We don’t have to talk about the book right now.” Tom throws a stack of blue tinted paper on the floor. His dyslexia meant that spelling and reading was so much easier when done on blue pages, and you could only guess that was the reason the body of water around you brought him so much peace. So when you saw that something might compromise your best boy’s happiness, you point it out. To give Tom a little bit of time to exit before things got ugly.
“Tom, I see someone in the bushes.”
“Yeah. It’s a pap.” Tom mumbled nonchalantly.
“They’re here to get pictures of me,” He turned to face you. “and you.”
“Me?”
“Yeah, the fans ship us. Think we’d be a good couple after that Cosmo stunt. We would have been a good couple when we were like, 18.” He laughs.
“Huh, yeah.” You look down.
“The best one around.” And you can’t tell if he’s serious.
You rip off one of his blue sheets. “I’m coming. I got hit with inspo.” And you trail to a different section of the boat. A very obvious click of the camera from a shrub nearby coaxes your pen to write without a second thought, How is he so accustomed to this? Fake private moments, protected by sheer glass curtains?
You scrunched your paper, well his paper, into a ball.
Your mind had turned his life into folklore. You weren’t sure if that was crossing a line, so you just put the ball into your bag and hide it until he hits you with the spark again.
“Let me see it.” Tom says.
“No.”
“You ran off to write it and won’t let me see it?”
You held your bag at your hip in defence. “No, Tom. Drop it.”
Tom’s face drops a little bit, but then he reaches into his own bag and reveals a deck of your debate cards. “I know what will cheer you up, good ol’ Y/N.” He sets a card on the wooden table between you two.
“Do you believe in a higher power?”
You toyed with the pendant around your neck which revealed your faith. “Do you?”
“I don’t. But I believe in soulmates.”
You look to the left to really ponder on what Tom is saying, and a paparazzis captures another photo of you in the corner of your eye.
“And you don’t think there’s a higher power that manufactures our souls to make our soulmates?”
Tom feigns a scowl. “That’s ridiculous.”
You scoffed. “How very contrarian of you.”
“What the fuck does that mean.”
“It means you contradict yourself, Thomas.” You laugh as he holds his chest in fake hurt.
“Are you implying I’m anything less than perfect?”
“Never.”
Never. Because you didn’t believe that to be true.
“Good. Cause you’d have to be punished.” Tom picks you up and throws you in the water below before jumping in with you.
On your way home you stop at the yours and Tom’s writing booth, scavenging through your bag to drop off Tom’s notepad, some scrunched up blue and white papers you and Tom thought could still help you write his book. You’d made an addition to your love-hazed scribblings about Tom and reckon you’d die if he found it. You managed to throw the other in the water, excusing yourself with “It’s utterly awful.”, to which you and Tom agreed you wouldn’t throw any more paper in the ocean cause the poor fish already had it hard enough.
You and Tom had a session the next day. Tom was excited for the day, and you could tell because he’d given his phone to one of his big babysitters for the time he had you.
“I think that’s all of yours.” You and Tom made a business out of unscrunching your paper balls to see if they had any useful ideas. You were certain you reached the end of Tom’s. All of his notes had ‘T.H’ written on the back in big and were scribed on blue paper. When it came to your little ‘secret admirer’ notes you weren’t worried - you had an English degree and were quick to think on your feet and was ready to make something up when it came to opening it.
“No, this one’s mine.” He’s confident, so you let him have it. He goes to pick up your tea and then realises it’s nowhere near warm, and was the one you made for yourself when you crept in yesterday evening. Tom has a smile on his face, and then he doesn’t. Before he goes to read it aloud, his eyes tell you he’s reading it again and again and again. “At dinner parties, I’ll call you out on your contrarian shit, and the coastal towns we wondered round will never see a love as pure as it.”
The look on Tom’s face gives you the splinters. He tries to look at you but you know he can’t. You don’t blame him. You can’t look at him either. “I really thought this was a good friendship.”
You hum and nod your head in agreement, pull your lips into a thin straight line as streaks of tears abandon your eyes. This was worse than Tom rubbing salt in your wounds. He’s rubbing dirt in your painful fucking gashes and you are reminded of why this didn’t work before, why it will never be.
And you wouldn’t dare to dream about him anymore.

“Don’t test me.”
Requested: Yup
Request: a smut where alpha jihyo gets jealous of her omega girlfriend at a work party and gives punishment in the car
a/u: Hey, everyone! In honor of the Jihyo’s birthday I decided to write a little something before my blog becomes full of Valentine’s prompts, so I hope you enjoy and @very-lost-adventurer here’s your fic where you get railed by Jihyo. I love you guys!
Category: NSFW and Smut
Word Count: 2.7k
Tumblr media
“Happy birthday, Jihyo-nim!” The lights of the conference room flicked on as streamers hung from the ceiling and a banner with the bold words, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, was tacked on the wall. Members of Jihyo’s staff and close friends stood around the room with party hats and noisemakers as she noticed all their faces along with a giant pile of presents that sat in the center of the table. A smile spread on her lips as she was crushed in a hug from one of her best friend’s, Nayeon, while she attempted to waddle into the room practically dragging the older woman as Jeongyeon just shook her head, before finally pulling the brunette off her before shooting her a soft smile and cocked her head in your direction.
Jihyo whipped her head to the side as she finally caught sight of you, her mate, the reminder of her deep bite mark on your neck made a part of her stir in her pants before shaking away the thought as she spotted the cake you were holding. A beautiful tiramisu with her name and “Happy Birthday” written in perfect cursive decorated the top as she took it from your hands to place it on the table before bringing you into a soft kiss, and for a second you both forgot where you were. Till Nayeon not so quietly cleared her throat, making you and Jihyo reluctantly pull away from each other as you noticed the light blushes on her staff’s faces and you had to admit you felt a little bad.
However, that didn’t last for the rest of the night since after that moment it seemed that Jihyo was anywhere but with you. She had excused herself to go and mingle with some of her staff an assistant or a receptionist you weren’t really paying attention to who it was only how the other Omega’s hand kept touching Jihyo’s arm and how she was clearly flaunting her scent towards your mate, but you decided to clench your teeth and ignore it not wanting to create a scene over nothing at Jihyo’s birthday party. Deciding to just continue chatting with Jeongyeon till you saw it happen again in the corner of your eye, this time the Omega wasn’t being as discreet as they pretended to drop a napkin then immediately bend over to get it, lightly brushing against your Alpha’s front as you swore the glass you were holding was going to break in your hand at any given moment with how hard you were gripping it.
But, you just let out a deep breath and continued milling around till you saw it happen a third time where the Omega who was clearly nearing their heat by the smell of them leaned down to Jihyo’s ear to whisper something that made the Alpha blush before brushing her hair behind her ear and winking at her did you finally have enough of your mate’s either obliviousness or her sheer will to make you jealous. And knowing that sadistic little Alpha you were completely sure it was the latter so you decided to play a little game of your own. ‘If she doesn’t want to pay attention to me now, then I’ll give her a reason to watch me.’ You smiled evilly to yourself as you shook out your shoulders before taking up the facade of a sweet and innocent Omega, ‘Two can play at your game Park. Let’s just see who plays it better.’
And you set your plan into motion, moving to the most obvious Alpha in the room other than your mate, a shy new assistant from Japan named Mina who looked as though she had presented as the wrong dynamic but you could tell she knew how to handle herself or even better, let your mate think she could handle you better than she could. You expertly weaved your way through the crowd till you stood in front of the Japanese girl, a sly smirk on your face as you greeted her and struck up a conversation about video games of all things before making your move. You placed your hand on her arm and squeezed as she told a joke - she was actually very interesting and you considered asking her out for coffee after this game was up but you had all the time in the world to do that afterwards - as you laughed louder than necessary, drawing Jihyo’s attention to your direction as you let out a bit of your scent towards the blushing Alpha in front of you as your could see Jihyo’s jaw clench. She was always so easy to rile up, but you knew you couldn’t stop at Mina as you politely ended your conversation before directing your course to a partially tall Alpha.
She was taller than the rest of the women in the room and she carried an intimidating energy that just screamed, “Alpha!’ as you approached her. You learned that, like Mina, she was foreign as well but instead of Japan she was born in Taiwan and her name was Tzuyu. A very unique name that brought an easy conversation of genuine questions about her homeland that she seemed all too happy to answer as you could feel Jihyo’s gaze boring holes into the back of your head. A smirk grew on your lips as you sent a teasing wink towards your mate before trailing a hand up Tzuyu’s arm and squeezed her bicep before directing a large wave of you scent towards the poor girl before Jihyo’s control snapped and she was on you like a heat seeking missile. She smiled politely at Tzuyu as she excused the both of you as she grabbed you by the arm and dragged you off, her scent was sharp and practically nipped at your inner Omega as you could see that your scent had been affecting her and the proof was practically straining against her dark pants.
The heavy material was now doing next to nothing from hiding her obvious erection, the second you noticed it Jihyo wanted to rip the shit-eating-grin you had painted on your face off as she growled low in her throat. Pulling you closer to her to the point you could practically smell her rage rut building inside her as you moved in front of her to block the movement of your hand sliding down to cup the bulge in her pants as she bit her lip to suppress the groan that threatened to tumble out if she didn’t. You raised a suggestive eyebrow at her before she grabbed your wrist, “Don’t test me, Y/N.”
But you shrugged innocently as you leaned down to nip her ear, husking into it as you asked, “Whatever are you talking about Jihyo-ah?” The brunette growled, and if looks could kill you would surely have imploded on the spot.
“I’m not kidding Y/N, knock it off.” But her words didn’t hold water as you ran your tongue along her bottom lip, but pulled away before she could kiss you, making her frustration grow.
“Yeah?” You purse your lips in mock thought before moving to kiss along her jaw as you husked, “Or you’re just mad I played you at your own game.”
That seemed to be your mate’s breaking point as she let out an audible outburst, “Okay, now you’re gonna get it!” As the words left her mouth it felt as though time stopped since everyone’s attention was now drawn to the both of you, and it looked like Nayeon was gonna pass out from how hard she was holding back a laugh. Noticing how loud her words were and how much innuendo it implied made a dark blush grow on her cheeks as you held back a laugh. Quickly saving the situation Jeongyeon cleared her throat to bring the attention to her as she looked to the both of you before speaking.
“Y/N actually had a surprise trip planned for Jihyo’s birthday so I think it’s best if you get a move on, Nayeon and I will take everything back to your guy’s place and clean up here. Have fun you two and happy birthday Hyo!” The blonde Alpha said in the most convincing tone as you and Jihyo both made mental notes to thank her later.
“Yeah, thank you all for coming and celebrating my birthday, but we should probably get going. Feel free to stay as long as you’d like. Thank you all again!” Jihyo bowed before you and her made your escape, giggling like teenagers as you could barely keep your hands off each other in the elevator before getting to the parking garage and stumbling around to get to your car.
But before you had a chance to open Jihyo’s door, the Alpha pushed you against the car as she connected your lips in a heated kiss her hands grabbed any piece of clothing she could find as she pulled you closer. A surprised moan left your throat as you did your best to match her intensity, which was pretty easy considering the amount of tension that was building between the two of you while in the party, but you were able to hold her off long enough to open the back passenger door and the two of you tumbled inside. Thanking your past self for driving an SUV to the party as you both pulled down the seats to create a bigger area before continuing the kiss. But this time clothes began coming off as Jihyo had enough of the teasing and needed you. Now.
And who were you to deny the birthday girl.
Jihyo deepened the kiss as it seemed as though her life depended on getting your clothes off as she practically ripped your outfit in her haste. Removing any article of clothing that separated the two of you till you were both naked when she went back to attacking your neck in bruising kisses and nips before you eventually pushed her away, “Hold on, I want to do something.”
Jihyo cocked an eyebrow, “Really? Because I was under the impression you were going to be punished.”
“I was just thinking, we could do something we both enjoy.” Your tone was innocent but your mate could see right through you.
The Alpha guffawed as she crossed her arms, “Like you wouldn’t enjoy letting me make your ass red.”
You rolled your eyes playfully as you brought a hand down to your mate’s shaft, pumping it in your hand till it grew hard before letting it go. Inwardly enjoying the way your mate glared at you, “As tempting as that offer is, you can do that when we get home. But right now,” You smiled wickedly as you ran your hand down your mate’s abs before gripping her shaft in your hand again and pulling it towards you slightly, “this cock is mine.”
Jihyo let a soft whimper at the pull, her tip oozing beads of precum before she cleared her throat, “You’re in so much trouble.” The Alpha’s words made you laugh slightly as you leaned forward to capture her lips in a kiss.
“Sure I am.” You put a hand on her chest as you pushed her down till she was laying on her back, “Now, shut up and let me give you my present.” As the words left your mouth you sunk down onto Jihyo’s cock, letting out a strangled moan at the stretch as you took her alpha-hood in one thrust. Your mate’s girth caused your walls to flutter wildly as she too cried out in pleasure, her hands immediately finding their way to your hips as she let you set the pace. Enjoying the sight of you rising and falling in her lap as you impaled yourself on her shaft.
She moved her hands down to your thighs as she rubbed the soft skin, “You look so pretty Y/N-ah.”
You blushed at the compliment as you continued riding your girlfriend’s cock, a low moan leaving your throat as you felt her knot growing at the base of her shaft, “P...push it in.” Your breathing came out in clipped pants as Jihyo quickly flipped your positions so that she was on top.
Her hips moved at a blinding pace as you could have sworn she was shaking the entire car, as the sound of skin meeting skin was the only thing you could hear as the Alpha leaned down to connect your lips in a kiss. Before moving down to your neck where her teeth grazed over the fresh mate mark, “Mine.”
You whimpered as your nails scratched along Jihyo’s back, “Yours. Only yours.” The Alpha grunted as she pulled out from your tight heat before shoving back inside, your walls practically gripped onto her alpha-hood as you could feel her knot pressing into your entrance, practically begging to be let in, “Do it. Please, knot me Alpha!”
Your pleas brought a smile to Jihyo’s lips as she pulled out so that only the tip remained inside, “Are you sure baby girl? After all that teasing back at the party? You think you deserve my knot?”
You squirmed under her gaze as you tried pushing her cock back inside, which she avoided, “Please, I’ll do whatever you want.”
Jihyo raised an eyebrow in amusement, “Anything I want?”
You nodded earnestly as you could feel your orgasm beginning to fade, “Y...yes, any...anything.”
The Alpha nodded, “Then you better make good on that promise once we’re home, Princess.”
“I will, I swear.” You bucked up in frustration before your mate finally relented.
“Then get ready for the best orgasm of your life.” With that, Jihyo took off thrusting into you with a force you had never felt before as it ripped a loud scream from your chest, her fingers trailing down to your clit as she pinched the bundle of nerves making you cry out.
“Oh god.” Your hands flailed for anything to hold onto as you felt your orgasm approaching, a sly smirk of the brunette’s lips as she winked.
“That’s what they call me.” Before shoving her knot inside you, the stretch made your walls flutter as it dealt with the large intrusion as you felt your climax come crashing down on you. The waves of raw pleasure wracked your entire body as your pussy contracted around Jihyo’s shaft, as your inner walls milked her for everything she had.
Hearing a low grunt escape her throat as she jogged her hips forward, “I’m coming.” The words barely left her when she felt her balls tense and a sudden spurt of warmth shot inside of you as she came. You could feel her orgasm ripple through her as she collapsed on top of you, unloading rope after rope of cum into you till her balls were emptied.
A soft sigh left her throat as she rolled over so that you were both on your sides, her knot keeping the two of you together for the time being as you cuddled into your mate, “I hope you liked your gift.”
Jihyo laughed lightly as she wrapped an arm around you, “Don't get me wrong, it was amazing. But, I think I like this a little more.”
You smiled softly as you placed a kiss to her lips, “Me too. Happy birthday Jagi, I love you.”
The Alpha returned the kiss as she nuzzled into your neck, “Thank you, I love you too.”
-Outside the Car-
Nayeon and Jeongyeon let out a relieved sigh as they finally made it down to the parking garage, bags and boxes full of Jihyo’s presents in their arms as Nayeon noticed that your guy’s car was still in the lot. “Hey, Jeong. Isn’t that Jihyo and Y/N’s...oh my god!” The Omega nearly dropped everything she was holding when she noticed the violent shaking of the car.
“Are they seriously…!?” Jeongyeon said in disbelief as the sound of what you and Jihyo were doing reached her years, “Ew, I think I’m gonna be sick.” Nayeon nodded in agreement as they threw everything into their car before Jeongyeon jumped into the driver’s seat, disgusted looks on both their faces. “I could go for a drink, how about you?”
The Omega hummed in response, “Whatever makes me forget I just saw and heard that.”
Jeong nodded as she started up the car, “On the bright side we have enough blackmail material to get Jihyo to buy us that fish tank we always wanted.”
“And dinner.” Nayeon added, chancing a look back to your guy’s car to see that it was still very much shaking, before shuddering, “A lot of dinner.”
Jeongyeon nodded as she pulled out onto the street, “Agreed.”

The sound of voices and clinking of glasses mingle around you like a bustling symphony: discordant, rhythmic, clashing but endlessly vibrant. The scent of alcohol hung thick in the air, enough to taste and intoxicate. The amount of people in such a small space made something under your skin hum, whether it was simply an irritable Yasiri or the buzzing energy stored in your bones or maybe even a genuine discomfort, you weren’t entirely sure.
You sip lightly at the scotch in your glass, letting it burn through your throat, but it wasn’t enough to make the itch in it go away completely.
You watch Dick’s eyes intently as they slide past you, just over your shoulder. His sentences coalesce clumsily, syllables squishing and clipping at odd ends as his plush bottom lip catches between his teeth. His eyes are glossy with interest even in the dim lights of the pub. His pupils are blown and dark. You fight everything in you to stamp down the urge to huff or roll your eyes. Not that he would have noticed. You’re pretty sure you could stab someone in the eye and Dick wouldn’t even blink, not when he is so enraptured by whatever the hell is behind you. You feel a gross sticky sort of jealousy pool in the pit of your stomach.  You swallow it down not really knowing of any other way to deal with it.
You arch a brow, the tips of your nails tapping loudly against the lacquered wood of the table as Dick once again stumbles absentmindedly over his story about Wally West being living proof of the need for warning labels (for people). You click your teeth irritably while Yasiri’s tail rattles against your collarbone before you take another sip, eyes following his only for them to land on a vivacious redhead at the bar. The irritation bubbling in your veins dwindles into mild amusement. Your best friend is a hilariously predictable moron.
“She is either a suspect or you’re being a creep.” You tease, the cruel curve of your lips barely obscured by the glass pressed against them. The mockery in your eyes shining amber like the drink in your glass. Dick’s cheeks flush as the playful lilt in your voice lances through the fog in his mind. He looks at you, dopey and red-cheeked as if he didn’t know what you were talking about. You roll your eyes, nostrils flaring letting out a breath caught between a huff and a laugh. “Stalker.” You hiss, trying to smother the warmth in your voice with sheer, unadulterated pettiness.
Dick levels you a look, cutting and vicious if he wasn’t flushed. “Am not.” He whines halfheartedly, eyes flicking once again to the woman at the bar. Some part of you is sure you really ought to be mad at him. After all, you haven’t seen each other for almost half a year. This is thanks in part to work and in part to work getting royally fucked up. Thankfully, not because of Gotham’s resident furry and his new little bird boy. Really, you should be furious at being sidelined considering this outing was his idea but here you were smirking into your malt whiskey, tickled.
“Then stop staring.” You challenge, unfolding and relaxing into the moldy cushioning of the bar. Dick glares at you, the pout on his lips obscured by his hand as he rests his chin on his palm but you know it’s there. You’ve memorized the plains of his face and how they shaped themselves, a product of spending far too much time staring at the details.  Hey, if he was gonna third wheel you the least you could do was tease him about it. “Or do you want me to wingman for you~”
 “HELL NO”
You can’t stop the cackle that spills from your lips. “Why not?!”
“I’m not letting you cockblock me. AGAIN.”
 “That was one tiiime, Joystick.”
 “Once was enough!"
"’Fiiiine but to be fair,  you still ended up dating her, didn’t you?” You defended weakly, running your fingers through your hair, jostling the already wind whipped strands. Dick was red-faced. The liquor was definitely working through his system. The color in his cheeks was lively and cute, making him look boyish despite how much he’d grown. You had, in fact, cockblocked him due to an extreme bout of jealousy, childishness, and hormones. Back then you hadn’t yet learned the art of burying your feelings 6 feet under.
“Fine, fine, fine. Just shoot your shot, Dickie bird.” This does not appease him. He, in fact, crosses his arms over his chest. You set your glass down and raise your brow. “If you fail, I’ll buy you a round.” You add placatingly. Dick’s eyes slide over your shoulder, the lump in his throat bobbing.“Make that two.”
Your eyes shine, cat-like the dim lighting of the lamp overhead. You smile at him all cocksure, placing your chin on your intertwined fingers.“Deal.”
Dick gives you a withering look as he pushes off the table. You take a sip of your daiquiri as he moves through the crowd, gracefully slicing through the sea of bodies. No, maybe they were parting just for him. Dick does have that air about him. A pull that made it so painfully obvious that he was so much more. Dick also had this way of talking that made you unsure of whether you’re being flirted with or if it’s just the way he talks to people. Either way, he had this way of making you feel special and you had no doubt he would sweep this one off her feet.
The redhead at the bar tipped her head finally sensing his gaze on her and as per your expectation, she seemed to reciprocate the interest. Not that you can blame her. Dick was a 10 on his worst day. Now that you thought about it, you’ve never actually seen Dick flirt. You’ve seen him banter but flirt? You can’t seem to think of an instance of it. This’ll be fun.
You watch him closely and your brows climb higher than you thought they could. Something was off, something very un-Dick-like. There’s an unsteadiness in his step that makes your stomach sink. Dick wouldn’t. Even Dick wasn’t stupid enough to blow his shot just to get a few shots, would he?
 And then it happened.
“Did it hurt when you hit your face?” Dick asks, winking stiffly. A ripple of pain lances through you followed by an unbearable wave of second-hand embarrassment. “Excuse me?!” Her face morphs into something terrifying before Dick’s brain can catch up. You watch in mute horror as Dick’s face slowly matches the sinking feeling in your gut as embarrassment suffused his entire body.
“Wait, shit. I- I meant- Shit. I didn’t mean to say you look like you banged your face. I mean, of course, you don’t-” You watch in fascination as Dick stumbles through apology after apology after apology. Until finally, he gives up. “Actually, I’ll just leave.” Dick shambles gracelessly back to your table while your brain tries to process what just happened.
You wheeze against the table, pounding your fist against the table. “Dickie, yanno you did have a shot before you opened your mouth, right?” Your hand is clamped over your mouth trying to stop the shrill cackle bubbling in your throat.
 “Y/n...”
“Jeez, Dicktopus, was gin really worth getting blue balled?”
“You better have your money,” he sneers, cutting you a scathing look as he slides into the booth.
“I-” The smug look on your face vanishes when you reach into your wallet. “If I apologize for you, will you cut me some slack?” you try, brandishing your nearly empty wallet.
“I’ll buy you a shot if she doesn’t tell you to fuck off.”
“Hmm, if I get her number for you, will you get me two?”
“Sure, why not?” Dick whines petulantly. His head sinks into his arms desperately trying very hard  to implode. You cough into your sleeve trying not to laugh and hope he doesn’t notice. A blush creeps up the tanned skin of his neck. He tries to hide it by placing his hand on his neck but the color’s already made its way to his ears. Feeling a little bad for him, you squeeze Dick’s shoulder once, then twice, then twice once more. You swing your legs dramatically out of the booth. You hear Dick groan and you chuckle.
You flick your eyes to him one last time before moving forward. You roll your shoulders, realigning your form into something more suave and less goofy. The rhythm of your feet goes from a clumsy shuffle to a confident saunter. The woman looks at you skeptically, her lashes fluttering mockingly. You move, easy and casual. With a playful grin, you apologize and make up some bullshit excuse about Dick being extremely shy. She eases. You continue on your little sales pitch as if it was the most natural thing in the world.  You draw a laugh out of her. You can hear her heart pick up. She smiles at you telling you that you and your shy friend are fine. You chuckle and promise to tell your long-suffering friend that, tilting your chin towards Dick who is still trying to melt into the table. She scribbles her number onto a napkin and hands it to you with a flirtatious wink. You smile lopsided, cute and sheepish, as you wave her goodbye.
Dick stares at you with slack-jawed awe. This time you feel genuinely bashful but you shrug it away with a sharklike grin spreading across your face.
“Pay up, pretty bird,” you say slamming the number on the table, teeth gleaming in the low light of the room. The petty satisfaction oozing off of you is almost palpable. Dick looks up at you, his pretty mouth twisting.  “What are you? Seven?”
“If by seven you mean lucky, then yeah,” you sneer, nudging your empty shot glass against Dick’s shoulder. “Pay up, Dickenson~” you sing. Dick’s face twists even more and he waves you off, pushing off the table.
“Let’s just go,” Dick bites out, cheeks burning. You bite your lips trying to resist the urge to tease him more but it’s hard. Not when he’s all pouty and cute.
“I mean you did just wine and dine me,” you laugh musically. You promised yourself you would stop teasing him but you never said you would stop making jokes. There’s a complicated expression on Dick’s face before it shifts back to exasperation.
 “You. Are. Awful.”
You shake your head not even denying it as you follow him out of the old Dog and Duck into the fresh Bludhaven air.
“How are you good at this?” Dick whines into one of your throw pillows. The poorly counterfeit superman one he had gotten you a few years ago from a trip to the Philippines. He's pouting at you like a kid. To be fair, you did laugh at him in the club (and the whole way back to your safehouse which was not a short walk).
You chuckle, tapping a cool can of beer against his forehead.“Sadly some of us need to work at being charming, Dimples McGee.” He accepts the can, scowling at you. Your grin doesn’t waver which only serves to deepen his scowl. It was an irritating feedback loop. Well, irritating for Dick. You’re having the time of your life. You settle on the other side of the couch rolling your beer can in your hand. “ Plus, you’ve seen pops talk right? The man sweet talks like his life depends on it.”
“Right, I’ll remember to ask him for flirting advice next time he tries to kill me,” Dick says, rolling his eyes at you. You perk up at the awful idea before you snicker and press a hand to your lips in a barely held back smile. It’s Dick’s turn to perk up. His blue eyes shine with interest at your expression like he’s trying to capture it. You turn to him with a serious expression. “Please, please ask him that. I will pay you to record his reaction. Please. Please. Dickle, please,” you beg, moving on your knees to his side, your hands clasped in prayer.  Dick shifts sticking his tongue out at you childishly.
 “Noooooo!”
 “Pleeeeeeaaaaaseee”
 “No!”
With an ‘oof’, you plop yourself between Dick’s legs, your chest against his. You stare up at him with eyes mimicking the wide-eyed innocent look he uses on you when he asks for a favor. Dick gives you a sorry look asking you to please drop it. You don’t. You double down trying to look as cute as possible.
Dick looks down at you, glaring then grimacing then smiling. “Ok, fine,” he huffs stiffly, wrapping his arms around you. You snuggle up against him, smug in your victory.  Your nose brushes against Dick’s pulse which makes his breath hitch. He squirms under you but you just find yourself laughing. “You. Are. Evil. ”
“I promise to make your Granny’s goulash,” you say in a halfhearted attempt to appease him. Dick’s face softens  “Now, that’s just bribery.”
“You’re gonna be a cop here in Bludhaven. You gotta learn how to take bribes.”
His brows crease as you shake your head. Dick huffs, planting his chin against the crown of your head before pressing his lips to your hair. You feel one of his arms pulling you closer, his hand threading through the tangle of your hair. You smile against his skin, breath tickling him which just makes him squirm. He’s breathless under your touch and you don’t even know it. You two sit basking in the close proximity and the soft intimacy you two shared. Your limbs tangle and twine around each other carelessly.
Out of context, you two could have been lovers.
You sigh, feeling a bit drowsy from the ‘tussle’. You blink, mind reaching for something. “Wait…. Brucie flirts like his life depends on it too! What’s your excuse?” you grin, jabbing a finger into his chest. Dick scowls at you, clearly flustered again. He stammers, babbling out answers. “Hey, I- I could probably do it...” Dick mutters, finally finding a semblance of coherence.
“After that performance?” You challenge, sitting up, eyebrow raised and arms crossed. A sharp laugh spills from your lips. It’s louder than you intended, your entire chest moving along with every exhalation of air.
Dick looks at you like a kicked puppy which has you roaring with laughter. “You don’t have to laugh that hard”
“Admit it, Grayson, you are an actual bonafide dork”
“I’ll bonafide you,” he growls and you’re bent into the couch cushions, clutching your stomach. Dick looks like your house plant like he’s about to disintegrate. You sit up again and cross your legs. Your lungs expand as you draw in another calming breath before you give him a softer, lopsided smile, placing a hand on his knee and shaking him gently. “Come on, practice on me I’m probably one of the few people you don’t have a stick up your ass around.” Dick, not getting up, puts his hands in his face looking positively mortified by the idea. You make a little affronted noise in the back of your throat and thanks to whatever god is up there that you don’t seem to know how much he doesn’t wanna fuck up flirting with you.
“I don’t know how to!” The cry is muffled but the mortification still bleeds through. The admission startles something out of you. “Holy shit, Nightwing can’t flirt his way out of a paper bag. Oh my god, this is great!” you cackle, falling into the cushions.
 “I’m trying damn it!”
“Ok. Ok. Ok.” You breathe. You’re still clutching your still aching stomach. You wish you recorded that confession.  “Ok. Phew. Ok, I need a minute,” you say folding over into the cushions again, another bubble of laughter rising in your throat. This is the best ab workout you’ve had in months.
“Take your time,” Dick deadpans, rolling his eyes, color rising in his tanned cheeks.
“Ooook, I think I’m good. First, we need to work on your wink.”
“The hell is wrong with my wink?” A wry smile tugs at the corner of your lips. You make vague hand gestures, hoping somehow you could physically pluck the correct words from the air.  “Just try winking, Ric.” Dick raises his brow but gives in. He winks at you in his usual devilishly charming way. You shake your head. “Wink at me like you’re trying to get my number.”
He stiffens and gives you the most artificial wink you’ve seen outside of a bad 50s flick. You drag your hand over your face. “How come you can wink so naturally while fighting and look like you work at in car sales when you flirt”
Dick tries again. He ends up closing both his eyes and scrunching his nose- looking like a disgruntled puppy. You squeal and Dick’s eyes fly open. Your mouth works to flatten itself but your mind is still picturing the expression. “What?” he growls. You wave him off. “Sorry. Sorry. Just- just try again. Please.”
Dick gives you another stiff wink and you’re surprised to find yourself cringing at your best friend for the first time in your life. You drag your hand over your face. “You look like you’re trying to ask me to prom.”
“You’ve never even been to a prom!”
“Who do you think scares off Joey’s dates? Pops?” you snort picking up your beer can and taking a sip.  “Did you miss the absentee father part?”
You both silently agree to move on.
“How the flying fuck did you date both Babs and Kory with your atrocious flirting skills?”
“I have good pick up lines.”
 “Uh, sure, buddy.”
“It worked on both of them!”
 “Well, hit me.”
“Call me Fred Flintstone,”  you wait patiently, “cause I’ll make your bedrock.” Another artificial wink.
You blink at him, mind still trying to catch up. “Dick you are the epitome of ‘you’re lucky you’re cute’,” you groan, palm flat against your forehead.
“I’m not cute! I’m handsome!” Dick protests, mouth twisting into a pout. A shrill squeal is dying in the back of your throat as you draw a breath. You pinch his cheeks, “you pouting just furthers my point.”
“Are you just trying to destroy my confidence?” Dick whines, lightly shoving you away.
“Oh no, the girl back at the club did that. I am just dancing on your grave.”
 “Give me another wink.”
Dick fails at winking, again. You cringe openly at him and he scowls at you halfheartedly, more defeated than angry. Dick’s used to being good at things, you supposed. You tap your finger against your chin, trying to unspool a thought and rethread it into words. “Ok, figured out one of your problems.”
“Aside from my terminal dorkiness?”
 “You’re too nervous-”
“You would be too,” Dick cuts in.
You snicker, teeth bared in a mocking grin. ”Did you miss the part where I got her number?” Dick refuses to answer. You sigh but you can’t keep the smile off your face. “Let’s start with body language because for a guy with so much muscle control you are shit at this.”
“You’re just gonna keep being mean,” he moans.
“I’ll stop being mean when you sweep me off my feet,” you jab.
“Ok, fine, maestro. What do you need me to do?”
“You’ve got to lean into me and smile coyly,” you say vaguely.  Dick leans in close, your noses touching, his lips ghosting over yours. You can feel his breath hot against your lips. It sends bolts of electricity careening through your nerves. Your brain takes its sweet time catching up, giving your body ample time to soak up the proximity of the almost kiss. You gasp then reign yourself in. “Dickle, that’s- that’s a teensy bit too close,” you laugh awkwardly, hands playfully shoving at his chest.
Dick shakes out of his haze. “You said to lean in!” he says leaning into your space again. “Yeah, I did but I never said lean in close enough to eat my face. I can smell the gin in your breath,” you snort airly, pushing at his chest again.
Dick sits back, embarrassment creeping into his features. His bottom lip is caught between his teeth as if he’s thinking carefully about his next few words. “I’m just-” Dick puts his head in his hands. “Like you said, I’m too nervous.”
You raise a brow. The sound that comes out of you is too sharp and disbelieving to be a laugh. “Pfffft, it’s just me, you dork.”
That’s the problem, Dick thinks. It’s you. The exasperation bleeds into his features. Dick fidgets, shifting and shaking in his seat like a wet chihuahua. Don’t you know how much he wants to get this right for you?.
“Stop twitching! You look like you’re having a seizure.”
“I’m nervous!!” he says. “Don’t you ever get nervous about a person you like?”
You side eye him. “I do,” you admit, rubbing your thumb over your tattoo out of habit. Dick’s eyes widen, then narrow. You see the word ‘who’ forming on his lips but his train of thought is cut off by the sound of Yasiri’s tail rattling against your skin as she emerges. Your poor danger noodle is likely frustrated with the lack of progress. You quietly thank her by scratching her chin.  “Whatever made this world just decided that you had to have at least one very obvious flaw,” you say, insincerely patting him on the back.
 “You're enjoying this.”
“Way more than you think,” you say grinning at him. Dick simply grimaces at you. “You’re not helping me.”
“Were you really expecting me to help?” You shrug. “Why would I do that?”
 “I’d help you!”
You level him with a flat look. “No, you wouldn’t. You’d laugh just as hard as I did.” Dick opens his mouth then closes it. He opens it again. You raise your brow at him. “ I- ok yeah. No, I would laugh harder,” he says, giving you a cheeky, lopsided smile. Vindication and something warmer tug your features into a smile.
“Just… relax and be yourself,” you mock sagely. Dick rests his head on yours. “ I hate you,” he groans, pressing his shoulder into yours.
“You’re just thinking about it too much,” you say, pressing back, “just do what’s natural. The more you over try the funnier it is.”
“Goes back to my problem of being nervous,” he huffs into your hair. You boop his nose. “Goes back to my point about you overthinking things.”
 “I’m not!”
 “Fine.”
 “Fine?”
“Fine,” you say, reaching back and presenting your danger noodle in your palm, "practice on Yazzy.”
 “You’re not serious?”
You hold up the clearly unamused snake eye level with Dick. “Go on." Dick gives you a withering look. He exasperates, then looks deep into Yasiri’s black eyes. He opens his mouth and Yasiri flicks her tongue at him. The next few things happen in quick succession. Dick’s body relaxes. His face breaks into a smile that makes your heart flutter. He lets out a bubble of laughter that has you jumping and reaching for your own breath. "I can't!" he gasps. You both dissolve into laughter.
“Suit yourself - but prepare to have blue balls," you grin, punching his shoulder, "at least, they'll match your new suit!" you cackle. Dick flushes red.“I - I - you are legally the worst and most unhelpful human being in modern history!”
Your cackle rises higher even as Dick shoves a pillow in your face. You push it away and wipe the tears away from your eyes. “Just practice on me, go on,” you say, reaching out, “once more." He frowns at you. "Please?”
Dick closes his eyes. His movements become leisurely the way you've seen him when he's about to do a routine on the trapeze. “Do you have a map?” he says, pushing a strand of hair out of your eyes. The oxygen in your lungs evaporates. Heat spreads from the line of skin Dick’s finger grazed to the rest of your body. You swallow trying not to collapse under the weight of his gaze. You realize he's expecting an answer. "No, why?” you stammer out stupidly.
“Because I keep getting lost in your eyes,” he says, eyes glittering in the dim lights of your apartment. Some part of your brain short circuits, fizzing out in sparks and fire, then the rest of your brain follows. The entire structure goes out in a puff of smoke. You're completely frozen. Dick watches you with a furrowed brow, bottom lip caught between your teeth. Apprehension rolls off of him in waves and you can feel your lungs work again. "Exactly! Exactly that!" You squeal in delight. Dick smiles relieved. "I knew you could do it, you magnificent dork. I could kiss you right now!" you say squishing his cheeks and pressing your forehead against his. Dick’s breath catches. There's a hopeful look in his eyes. "Would you?"
Something clogs your throat as you pull away. You're pretty sure it's your heart. You force the nervous laughter in your throat into something else. "Need practice with that too, Dickens?"
"Dunno," he hedges, eyes holding yours, "you tell me." His hand cups the side of your face. You ease into his touch like a marshmallow dissolving into hot cocoa. "Can I?" he whispers, thumb brushing against your bottom lip. He's being careful with you you realize. Your eyes flutter closed. You can feel your nerves disentangling. They cross and recross so that you're fully aware of your lips. The gap between the two of you is small but it feels so impossibly big. Anticipation, anxiety, and excitement all thicken the spaces between you. You want him. You want this. Is it so wrong?
 "Yes."

just screamed over your fem todobaku it was endlessly entertaining and I’m sure to be rereading it every two weeks from now on... the way katsuki pieces things together and the absurd setting is everything I wanted and more TT!!! For prompts.. tdbk’s relationship in the eyes of their classmates? That moment in a prev fic where momo is like yeah I’m with jirou now 🤗n then tdrk goes oh me too but w bkg is forever embedded into my brain lmfaooo like what does everyone make of this insane pair
pftttttt glad it fulfilled your expectations anon i love writing half-serious todobaku pieces where they are still 50/50 strategic geniuses and emotional morons as per canon but the setting is increasingly absurd. i don't know what the context was for giant deku in that sketch but the visual was too good. date-crasher deku at it again.
as for ur prompt i do love the concept bc i live for third party pov content but i would find it v hard to get done in the prompt format bc 1) honestly a lot of the 1A students (etc) don’t have very defined personalities lol and 2) when it comes to those who do i have too much to say to do this in an hour. however i can give you some bulletpoint summaries of the BNOCs (and if you have any specific niche classmates whose take you want do let me know). with that being said...
kirishima: forever and always a supportive bestie and thus leader of the todobaku fanclub. i mean just read my fic yknow. 1000% called it on bakugous side first (and/or bakugou told him) and has been enthusiastically supportive ever since. hes a big ol romantic really and also unironically thinks todobaku is the manliest of pairings (and totally made for each other, bro!!) so hes beyond stoked when they do get together. hes one of their most comfy third wheels bc he and bakugou r very close and he and todoroki r also good friends so no one is like on uncomfortable/uneven footing and hes unfazed by the ups and downs of their relationship bc hes used to both of their antics. the secret-keeper.
i don’t have enough separate intel on the rest of the bakusquad but they’re 1) completely thrown by the revelation that after years of wheedling and trying to set bakugou up into surprise dates he is not in fact ‘work-sexual’, and to top this off is actually into todoroki of all people 2) obnoxiously supportive, as you would expect. secretly they’re all kind of defensive of bakugou’s fragile heart (citation needed) and so nervous about how the whole thing is gonna work out but when it becomes apparent todoroki does not have better sense they relax and just become excessively nosy. like to complain that bakugou and todoroki weren’t content dominating their year academically and professionally they also had to steal out 2 of the country’s most eligible bachelors, the selfish bastards.
camie: second leader of the todobaku fanclub, idc. clocks it ahead of literally anyone else in their friend group bc she just, like, got that vibe, you know? theres a multitude of equally blunt and inappropriate ways in which she addresses this vibe (calling them out in person when theyre years away from it, trying to not especially artfully orchestrate a get-together, etc) and they are all very unsuccessful. shes ‘lowkey mad bakugou stole her potential man’ but ‘finders keepers’ so once they’re past that she’s all for it since she correctly thinks they r freaks best suited to e/o and also honestly probably thinks bl is cute or something. todoroki and bakugou both endure her encouragement very long-sufferingly. big double dater energy.
yaoyorozu: not at all in the first to clock gang, bc honestly the idea she has of todoroki is still a lil idealized/inaccurate and certainly does not involve dating bakugou; the initial reveal is inevitably delivered very casually to her as she scrambles for a polite reaction. she’s kind of wary of the whole thing at face value but close scrutiny leads her to conclude they’re actually not-terrible together. upon reaching this conclusion she begins making earnest overtures towards a very confused bakugou bc she figures she may as well make the effort to get to know him better. i always hc her as having had a crush of some variety on todoroki at some point so theres probs a bit of wistfulness involved and also a far larger ‘nvm dodged that bullet’ energy bc todobaku r romantically a mess and a half. to her despair she is extremely weak to camie’s todobaku gossip.
uraraka: to everyone’s vague bewilderment, a secret todobaku stan from the get-go. you could say this is bc it leaves deku solidly open but honestly she just has similarly odd friendships with todoroki and bakugou and it’s like a persistent guilty thought of hers that they’re kind of well-suited somehow. she often tells todoroki he can do better just to wind bakugou up but would be the first to take bakugou’s side if he actually did. she really enjoys them together bc she finds somehow they’re easier to tease- it humanizes them both further to be weak to dumb emotions. she plays counsellor sometimes but like subtly bc she knows better than to give outright advice.
iida: completely blindsided by the information, also spends several months in the grips of insomnia convinced that both their friend group and japan are doomed given the inevitable dramatic breakup. then he spends a singular day hanging around them at work or something and realises that his imagined version of them as a couple was in fact completely off-base bc they’re just overly intense workaholics who are too single-focused to ever bother splitting up. also top 1 most likely friend to launch into a completely sincere defense of them and their relationship in response to like the laziest off-color paparazzi bait comment.
midoriya: where to begin honestly. he def gets weird vibes from them throughout the whole usual melodrama but 200% does not come to the right conclusions. when he finally gets the news broken to him (never gently) his brain breaks a little. it’s mainly the bakugou element bc kacchan is.. kacchan and like.. not necessarily fundamentally someone midoriya has ever imagined harboring human interest in another living person. also todoroki in a parallel way has always struck him as resoundingly disinterested in relationships mainly bc hes kind of above them. of course once he sets to theorising he can connect some dots to bakugous various jealousies over the years and also todorokis pretty open staring and wow he is not very good at connecting dots actually. anyways once he recovers from the shock i think theres a variety of ways in which he takes it bc honestly it is very weird that his best friend and his .. closest friend (?) who have always primarily interacted through or due to him now have this competing private relationship. regardless obv he is intensely supportive in like, the typical kind of overbearing midoriya way. i sometimes make it so its just one of those things that everyones cool with but also the details will always be something midoriya and bakugou do not want midoriya to know bc Awkward, vs other times i make him super cool w it to the extent that hes just overenthusiastic and todorokis all oh. sure. thanks :) while bakugou loses his shit. he does genuinely think they’re a really good fit upon reflexion, and since he’s best suited to knowing why he’s p much always correct in his assessments. its one of those things where each duo in the trio has the capacity of playing up the subject matter to the third party’s detriment, tho when todoroki is the third party he’s less embarrassed by bakudeku’s todobaku discourse and more enduring their various bizarre friendship rituals + the serious physical damage they usually precede.
also aizawa clocks them first and is like oh god please no this is going to take at least 5 years to implode and will age me 10 years in the process

when all hope seems lost
desc: George finds himself to be lost: his business, merchandise and home have been destroyed in the war and his twin brother is still healing from a battle wound that could’ve been fatal. He’s living temporarily in a flat in a desolate looking neighborhood, and he’s desperate for anything to feel like it used to be. It seems as though all hope is lost, until he meets someone who reminds him that he’s got to endure the darkness to be able to appreciate the light.
A/N: yaknow i hate myself sometimes because whenever i just wanna write ~one fic~ i always add WAY TO MUCH INFORMATION and need to make it either a two-partner or a series smh why can’t i write shorter pieces man??? also this is me just feeding my feelings sorry.. i know some other friends need some light too so hopefully this two part (maybe more?) mini-series can help you a bit, too
pairing: george x fem!american!reader
word count: 1.9k
warning(s): mentions of war, anxiety, mental health

When it seemed as though every bit of light had been drained from the universe, you wondered whether the pavement beneath your feet would implode, catapulting you into some other world, some other place where maybe the darkness wasn’t so evident.
George was wallowing again, letting his unhappiness swallow him whole, the happiness he always seemed to emanate now diminished by the hollowness he felt inside of his chest. What had happened to him? How had it come to this? How had he let his desires go by the way side? Why had he given into the melancholy feeling overtaking him?
You wondered whether things would ever go back to normal. Though the war had taken place in England, it hadn’t stopped the following of the most dangerous wizard in all the world to make their way to America. They’d stopped at nothing. Not that you were surprised, really. You’d heard just how awful things had been across the pond. It was no wonder that they’d seemingly wiped out half of the population and then headed for the states, looking to inflict more damage upon the Wizarding community.
A sharp honking noise came from round the bend, but George didn’t move. He stood, feet cemented firmly into the cobblestone as he peered up at his shop; or rather, what was left of it. A few measly bricks and the siding that had been blasted open, showcasing the inner lining of the shop, their flat above it, and all of the products that had been destroyed along with it. The following of Voldemort hadn’t been kind. If he’d been there, if he hadn’t been at Hogwarts, he could’ve saved it -- Fred could’ve saved it --
You peered around the desolate little street you now found yourself on. Though the war had ended, the damage was still very prominent. Here you were -- halfway around the world, no job, no home, no life plans on the horizon, for they’d been smashed to smithereens the same way your tiny little home had been. You wondered if England would be the better choice than America. A wave of doubt surged through your bones, and you very quickly scratched at your head to try and ignore it as you made your way toward your new home.
Fred was busy at the Burrow. After his almost near experience with the great beyond, Molly had insisted that he come home. He hadn’t been too resistant, actually. He reckoned he could use some time there. George, however, desperately searched for a new place -- at least for a little while. A new place for himself, until Fred got better, and they could go back to their plans. Though, now, as he angrily clenched his fists inside of his pockets, the foreboding feeling of doubt swept through his mind, and he wondered if he and Fred would ever be able to replenish all that they’d lost.
Your suitcase clicked rather annoyingly against the cobblestone. You stopped and took an exaggerated deep breath, threading your brows together as you looked up at your new home: a tiny little apartment right on the outskirts of London. It was freshly painted a very stark white; it was beautiful, but nothing like what you were used too. It wasn’t just a new apartment -- it was a whole new world. England was too far from America, and every aspect of home felt as though it were light years of miles away.
George opened up the door to the room of his new flat: it was desolate looking -- bare walls, muted colours, a sort of dryness he wasn’t fond of, and he knew Fred wouldn’t be either. There was absolutely nothing exciting about this place. He set down his trunk in the corner and stood there for a few moments, half in a sort of daze and half in denial. He then threw his jacket onto the bed and made way toward the kitchen to make himself a much needed cup of tea.
You were busy tracing your hands over countertop in the kitchen when someone scared you. A redheaded man stopped in his tracks, his eyes wide with confusion as they glanced over you. He was tall and lanky; he desperately needed a haircut (or a hair taming, rather) and appeared as though he hadn’t caught much sleep in days. You stuck out your hand to introduce yourself: right. You forgot you’d be sharing a home. With a stranger. From England.
“Hi.” George’s voice sounded weirdly firm and unfriendly in his own ears. He cleared his throat a bit and forced a smile onto his face; in his desperation to find a place to temporarily live, he’d forgotten that he’d agreed to another flatmate. He slid his hand into yours and shook gently. “I’m George. Nice to meet you.”
By the puzzled look on his face, you wondered if he knew he was going to get a  roommate. A female roommate. An American female roommate. You figured probably not, because he seemed to be caught rather off guard when he walked into the kitchen and nearly froze on the spot. The startled expression cleared from his face, and he offered a rather genuine looking grin. You introduced yourself right back. “Nice to meet you.”
George found himself in a better mood when he realized that you were bound to be a good flatmate: you were tidy, didn’t have as many belongings as he’d imagined, and offered to shower either morning or night, it didn’t really matter to you -- whatever worked best for him. He was grateful to how accommodating you were being right off of the bat, especially when he felt as though his entire world was collapsing. But when he wandered past your room that first night and saw you sprawled out on the floor, hurriedly going through your belongings and peering down at what seemed to be some type of photographs, he wondered if you were possibly going through something, too. He pretended not to notice when you dabbed at your eyes.
It was nearing midnight, and you forced yourself to place back into your suitcase all photographs of your home -- or, the home you once had. It wasn’t doing you any good looking through them; if anything, it was just making the move to London that much more difficult. Suddenly, a gentle knock pulled you from your thoughts: George was standing at the entrance of your room, two cups in his hands. “I normally have a bit of tea before I head off to bed, and well.. you looked like you could use some. Hope I’m not overstepping.”
George was glad to see the grin that appeared on your face at the sight of him holding two steaming cups of tea. He watched you quickly got up from the floor and pull your hair back into a ponytail. “Thank you,” you told him, cautiously blowing on your tea to cool it. George figured now would be a good a time as any for a casual conversation, since it didn’t look like you’d be going to bed anytime soon. “So -- America? What brings you to England?”
He caught you off guard when he asked this. When you turned back around to look at him, he was casually leaning against the doorframe. His eyes looked much more awake than when you’d first met; it seems as though your foreignness had piqued his interest. Gently, you offered, “My home was destroyed. In the war. Crazy how everything that had started over here wandered all the way over to the states. Lost my job. Lost other...personal things.” You cleared your throat a bit and watched as George bit down on his lip; he seemed to understand. “Figured it was time for a fresh start, you know? New place, new adventure. Though I suppose I could’ve just moved to another state instead of across the country. But hey, England seemed as lovely a place as any, right?” You chuckled a bit before continuing, the first genuine laugh you’d had in months. “How about you? What brings you to this little apartment?”
“I’m so sorry. That’s awful.” George felt a tightness in his throat at your words. He hadn’t expected you to be so frank right off the bat. He wondered if all Americans willingly told intimate details of their lives to complete strangers. Though it was sort of strange to him, he felt as though it was an opening. He bravely took a step forward. “My reasoning isn’t any happier than yours, I’m afraid. I own a business with my brother -- the war destroyed nearly all of it and my flat above it. Fred’s back at my mum and dad’s; he was poorly hurt. I’m kind of on my own for the time being, struggling to find which way is up. That’s how I ended up here.”
“I’m so sorry.” A sudden wave of sadness took you over. You wanted to reach out and grab his hand and squeeze it, seemingly letting George know that you knew, sort of, how he felt. You’d both lost things due to the war. You’d both had to find a way to start over. You resisted the urge and instead sipped again on your tea. You lifted your eyebrows in shock. “It’s strange, the aftermath. It’s startlingly much worse over here than it is back home.”
George found himself laughing, genuinely giggling, for the first time since before the war. “England hasn’t scared you off, has it? I promise, it normally doesn’t look this bloody dismal. And, well, this little area on the outskirts of London really did take quite a hit. Not my first choice in terms of places to live, but I reckon for the time being, it’ll do.”
You swore you caught a bit of a glimmer in his eye, and you wondered how long it’d been since it had been there. George didn’t seem like a particularly melancholy kind of guy, but you knew that with his business destroyed, his brother hurt, his home demolished that he was entitled to a few (or more than a few) bad days. You peered out of your window to see the little rain covered cobblestone street, lit by nothing but the pale light of the street lamps, and breathed in gently. No, England hadn’t scared you off -- dismal looking or not. It had actually turned out to be much nicer than you’d imagined. You nodded at George, who offered up another small grin. “It’ll do.”
When George went to bed that night, he fiddled around with a few test products he and Fred had been placing the finishing touches on. He sucked in multiple breaths to stop himself from crying and just tried to remind himself constantly that they’d work it out. Fred would get better, they’d repair the damage, they’d create new products, their flat would be fixed. When he said all of it in the same breath, it sounded like too much for two blokes to handle. So he tried to focus on one thought at a time. Right. Fred will get better, after some much needed rest. George could handle being in this flat. It would give him time to work out logistics and design more products in all this new free time he had. He glanced to his bedside table and noticed a copy of The Quibbler underneath his wand, and his trunk in the corner of the room. The furnishings actually sort of reminded him of his dormitory at Hogwarts, and he chuckled to himself before shutting his eyes. Perhaps you were right. This new life? This time for all to heal? This time spent in a new flat?
It would do. It would do just fine.

ok so i started this as a draft days ago and barely remember where i was going with this idea but i tried to fill it out a little more. basically it’s just that anytime Curt says he misses being a spy he misses being a spy with Owen or the spy he was with Owen. so probably everything is what everyone knows already
Curt ties being a spy with Owen. completely, intrinsically, whatever, okay?? in Spy Again Curt says “Owen would want me to do this”, and lists
hop in a jet and fly again
grow a spine again
do my best not to cry again
wear a suit and tie again
drink martinis and drive again
get by again
feel like a real important guy again
as what he’s going to do as a spy. let’s check off what happens before Owen’s reveal (i’m trying to include some)
hop in a jet and fly again
grow a spine again
do my best not to cry again (i’m trying to be nice here he’s probably doing his best despite what happens)
wear a suit and tie again (literally part of the mission)
drink martinis and drive again (he’s sobering up)
get by again (barely my dude)
feel like a real important guy again
which, decent, but our dude is also having gay flashbacks, messing up a very simple and clear mission, and mistakes flirting for fighting (to quote my friend “Amelie” “he’s,,, so bad at pretending to be straight”) this all being with him having been one of the greatest spies, to the point of recognition years after he retired.
and post Owen’s reveal
hop in a jet and fly again (we’re going to count whatever that in
grow a spine again
do my best not to cry again
wear a suit and tie again (i mean he doesn’t need it??)
drink martinis and drive again (ok i don’t know maybe?? he does shots before and THEN chases Owen and then he’s drinking whiskey when he meets with Tatiana)
get by again
feel like a real important guy again (look at him at the end
more below the cut because this is already long and it’s going to be even longer
Okay, to be more in depth, (this’ll sound like a lot of my other posts) at the beginning Curt Mega is truly a great spy. yes, he was captured by Oleg, but the entire interaction with him Curt is still in control. he mocks Oleg, breaks his fingers, hits the bat back at him, all while holding a conversation (and flirting) with Owen. he’s confident the entire time, he’s willing to go against plans and is overconfident to a fault. While Cynthia is somewhat rude and pays more attention to Owen in the beginning (”finally someone who knows what the hell they’re doing!”) but i think she’d treat him the same as Curt if he ever did decide to work for her. it’s partially a “bring in new talent” and partially a “keep the old talent from being overconfident” thing. i don’t think it’s an actual mark on what pre-fall Curt was like as an agent. but either way, their record was six minutes to get out of a building presumably set to explode (or implode. fuck if i know) and they were still both confident and eager to lower the time even more. and they would have accomplished it, if not for Owen falling. what i’m saying is pre-canon Curt was a very effective agent, was good at his job, and was likely almost never out of his depth.
in Spy Again, he’s talking about becoming a spy again, but he links this to Owen, believing that being a spy again would enable him to work past Owen’s death (”but maybe this time’ll be different, it might be what I need”). he’s haunted by the “memories” not “memory”, which could be taken as any time he and Owen worked together, not just when he died. he wants to be a spy, but even stating that and the things he misses about being a spy (above lists) starts to remind him of Owen (”and i know just where i’m goin’, me and my partner Owen!”). he sees himself post-fall, with his beard, alcoholism, and trying and failing to improve (”i do what i can, try to make a plan, to be a better man, but nothing seems to stick”) and again relates it to Owen (”Owen please, if you could see what’s become of me, what would you think?”). Curt decides Owen would want him to be a spy again (”i once was a spy. i think you’d want me to spy again”) and repeats it to make it stick (”Owen would want me to do this”), and that is what truly starts him off again. or so it would seem.
in his first mission back, Curt can’t start again. he has to talk himself into doing his job again (”looks like that someone has to be me. you came here to do this, so do the job, stop acting like a little pussy”), and then mostly rides along on what Tatiana does anyway (”i second that motion!) a far cry from the beginning Curt who did his job eagerly. and we are again reminded that Curt was a great spy when Sergio recognizes Curt on sight and says “is that Agent Curt Mega? ... i can’t believe this, the most famous spy in the world busting my arms deal. hey, would you mind signing something...” followed by DMA immediately being able to disarm Curt with ease, showing the contrast. Curt does recognize the baked goods are the way to hurt Sergio, but also loses the bomb to Tatiana
Curt is, at this point, still waiting [in a way] for a partner. it is not implied in the beginning that he and Owen worked together every mission, rather the opposite in fact (“MI6 didn’t tell me you were on this mission”), but he still seems to almost expect a partner, and goes off what Tatiana says even though they’re not working together, and they both train their weapons on the baked goods.
Cynthia points out that he’s been on an early retirement for four years, which Curt is very quick to correct as a grieving period. his hands shake during Cynthia’s drill, he fumbles the gun, and he has none of the grace or style of the beginning. when Cynthia mentions Owen and Curt’s alcoholism (”i remember when i got the call that Owen died and you lived, i screamed into Susan’s neck for fifteen seconds, then i locked it up and moved on. you on the other hand, you drank yourself to rock bottom...”) Curt doesn’t even look at her. when she poisons him, he’s still able to repeat back (in essence) what she said, showing that the spy of the past is still there, deep down.
Eyes on the Prize II is the (i think) first time we see Gay Flashback-Owen. he is notably not slipping and dying, as would likely be going through Curt’s head if he were haunted by that specific memory alone (going back to the “haunted by any memory of Owen”) thing i mentioned, but is instead also saying “keep your eyes on the prize” with the ensemble, again lining up Owen with Curt’s idea of being a spy.
during the casino scene Curt is clumsy with his acting, and is trying to get information from Tatiana (it’s all very awkward. “make it a white russian, hold the vodka, please, thank you so much” “excellent choice. one vodka martini bone dry, and one glass of cream”), but as soon as another person joins it (Dick Big), the relationship between them turns from enemies trying to get information from the other to an uneasy team (”i’m hardly alone, the woman and i were just about to-”), with Curt even giving a russian toast, and although Tatiana definitely notices when Curt is given a gun by the dealer, she politely declines to mention it, and when Curt offers her his arm while Dick is off finding a waiter, she smiles. and while it could be argued that it is just them working undercover, this did feel more genuine than when they are alone and back in their assumed positions (”besides, without that horrible face fungus, what will i have to yank?” “we are talking about fighting, right?”) Tatiana also recognizes that Curt is alone in more ways than one, both without backup and without anyone he can trust fully. in the short time they’ve been together, they already are close enough to friends that Tati apologizes for bringing him to DMA
despite the two of them being on opposite sides during this encounter, they are already beginning to act as partners/friends, and Curt takes her betrayal more personally than he should have
i’d also like to take this moment to point out that DMA almost instinctively stabs the Nazi henchman for saying “seems his noggin’s a bit dense!” of Curt
during Torture Tango, it seems like he’s having a natural reaction to getting tortured. Curt is nervous, he’s afraid, he’s ready to die (”you sick bastard, why don’t you just kill me already?”/”i can’t deny that i’m gonna die”). but this is NOT how the torture scene at the beginning went, even before he knew Owen was there. at the beginning scene Curt is arrogant, throwing Oleg’s words back at him, breaking his fingers, keeping a cool tone and staying in control the whole time. this time he barely talks to the DMA, he doesn’t fight back, he just accepts it. also, he sings “i once was a spy but i won’t be a spy again” and “thought i could say goodbye, but i can’t lie i wanna be a spy again” despite the fact that he is a spy again. he says he wants to be a spy again, but he already is a spy again, what he’s missing is Owen. he was once a spy with a partner he loved and could trust completely, and the partner felt the same way about him. that is what i believe enabled him to be such a good spy, he had someone who knew everything about him, being gay included, and he was able to act more confidently as a result. what he misses is less of the “go get the girl and go save the world” and more seeing his partner even for short periods and having the confidence that comes from being known. also, curt is on the verge of death and is still thinking of Owen (”doesn’t even matter if i killed my best friend”)
back to Tatiana, who’s having her own crisis. “is Mega my enemy do i let him die? i’ve got to think about my family ‘cause no one’s looking out for me...” she, at this point, has not interacted with Curt beyond the arms deal, the casino, and betraying him to von Nazi and DMA. despite this she still sees him as a possible ally, and ultimately does decide to betray von Nazi and DMA for him (to his understandable confusion). when she unties him, he only calms down when she holds her arm out to him, but he becomes so distracted by it and Gay Flashback-Owen that he doesn’t notice DMA is waking up until he’s already been shot.  i’d also like to point out that Gay Flashback-Owen is doing the same arm out pose Tatiana is doing while holding Curt’s arm
end of act 1. can i get a wahoo?
when Curt is with Barb, he acknowledges that he’s fucked things up, but still catches himself on saying he is a [great] spy again ”i was, i am, supposed to be the best”
i think during the gala he is trying to be the Curt from the past while ignoring why he was that way. he insists on going rogue, he confidently (and foolishly) announces that he is a spy, the prince will be assassinated, and that the Russians and Americans know, despite the fact that it doesn’t seem like a good idea if thought about at all. With blowing up the facility at the beginning there was some merit to it. they had been seen, they stole the plans and possibly wished to muddle why they were there, the facility might have had more plans they didn’t know about and they were already on a time limit. they also had a limit on the tech items they had (no rocket shoes :’( ).
when Tatiana rescues him again and takes him to his mother’s safe house, who mentions a “constant parade of drinking buddies, for poker or wrestling or whatever you boys do in the rumpus room” and while we could make an argument about Curt trying to move on after the fall, i think this youtube comment on the video is a fucking treasure and i will forever remember it.
Tumblr media
i’d also like to point out now that Tatiana is truly the only character that i believe could “replace” Owen for Curt. he needs someone in his life who can know even the parts he hides from those closest to him, someone on equal footing with him, someone who doesn’t idolize him, and someone who works well with him. he can’t tell his mother, because she wants grandchildren, she wants a daughter-in-law, she wants to plan a wedding. it can’t be Cynthia, she’s his boss, it’s set during the Lavender Scare when he could lose his job for being gay. it can’t be Barb, who has an intense crush on him, and even when she does act in a platonic way, she is willing to risk her job based on the fact that it’s him (in an almost awestruck way). Tatiana is unimpressed with Curt when they first meet, they become friends quickly, work together to stop von Nazi and DMA, they are both spies at the top of the field, and she accepts him (”you’re cool with me?” “till the end!” “cool :)”). also, i think it’s interesting that Tatiana believes she is saving someone (her family) by leaving them behind, while Curt believed he killed someone (Owen his lover) by leaving them behind. just kinda parallels i think
before Doing This, Curt says he is is afraid that “[he’ll] never be the spy [he] once was” and that he believes he shouldn’t need anyone else. when Tatiana says he’ll get everyone who cares about him killed with his line of thinking he says the line “i already have.” explains about Owen, and adds “and that was back when I was the old Curt”.
during One More Shot, Curt acknowledges that he tried to get past missing Owen by trying not to need anyone else, which was wrong (“i used to think i could do this by myself i was fine, i didn't need any help“). this is him starting to take his friendship with Tati and being able to use it to see that while he cannot work alone, he doesn’t need one specific person to make him the man he is.
this of course promptly goes out the window when DMA is revealed to be Owen
however, Curt still calls Tatiana “partner” before going after Owen.
when he does go after Owen (One Step Ahead), he still thinks of Owen as the man from 1957 (”what happened to the man i knew?”). when Owen begins to explain, Curt tries to remind him of what they did “together. two of the greatest spies to ever live”. once again associating him and Owen together with being a spy
also, once Owen is dead (idk if i hope for real or not) again, Curt does make a change for the better. he’s able to be fairly confident around Cynthia, he tries to be enthusiastic about Barb’s tech/data analysis merge, he is able to talk about his “ex lover returned from the grave” with Tatiana. i do find it interesting though that he does not tell her about the other facilities, again taking it upon himself to fix it, and only telling her “give me a ring if you’re ever stateside”.
in a final moment, Curt is able to move on from Owen, and acknowledge “i once was a spy, i’ll always be a spy” with or without Owen.

Life Update
So I’ve been at the new place a month this week.
I love it here - but honestly five years of working with a nice boss did not prepare me for working with a stack of nice bosses.
Hmm.
If that makes sense? That said - I would absolutely not have been able to handle this level of care and concern if I’d jumped into this position five years ago. Like - I needed to work with one genuinely kind supervisor as like. Kindness coping lessons?
It’s built into my resume - over the last eight years I’ve made it a point to include a statement in my cover letter about how important it is to continuously build safe spaces in kitchens, and making a place where other people can grow and develop their skills in a place that isn’t full of anger and mismanaged stress.
At the point when I started drafting that, I made a very conscious decision that I didn’t want to be angry at work. That was after a lot of self evaluation, and it was (always is) a work in progress. Angry chef and bitchy/catty chef are stereotypes for a lot of reasons.
Anyway - the point is, I knew what I wanted to make possible, but I’d never seen it before, in real life. I just had the notion that it was something that should be doable.
And then I got painfully lucky, and got to work for someone for five years who had had the same conscious realization, and wanted to make the same thing? Who manages with compassion and kindness. It was a little frustrating having to watch her bend over backwards to ensure that everyone else stuck to that, and it didn’t always work out. There are plenty of things that weren’t great about it, but.
It was doable. Not only was it doable but it was being put into practice. I can’t. I can’t express how wonderful and eye opening and just goddamn relieving it was, to know that we could make a place like that. And that people didn’t have to go home miserable everyday.
Kitchen work is hard. It’s hard, it can be more than a bit thankless, and a lot of kitchen culture is toxic in a way that feels insurmountable - like. Burn it to the ground and start over insurmountable. But it really, truly doesn’t have to be that way.
And I talked about it over the years with friends and it was kind of but not really a joke between us that moving to Nashville and leaving Savannah was like getting out of an abusive relationship - just. Ya know. We broke up with the Sav Service Industry. Like. Honestly- we can’t lose steam with demanding better mental health support for service instrusty employees because it’s hella overdue.
Now though. I’m here in Florida. And it’s not just one boss who is a decent person. Maybe it’s telling that one of our company managers talks about his 5 years of hell at the last place he worked (I just about died when he said it was in Hilton Head the poor man is NOT WRONG) and how he doesn’t want that for anyone else. Honestly, every manager I’ve talked to here so far has a horror story like that, that made them stop and go “Fuck, I don’t want this for other people or for me anymore how do I fix this”.
Somehow I’ve found myself in a place that’s five steps further along. No one is having to bend over backwards to constantly enforce kindness. No one is shouting. No one is throwing temper tantrums. I have several bosses and co-managers who are all kind and like to touch base and make sure I’m not overworking or overextended. It’s still summer, so the kitchen is on a skeleton crew until the seasonal hires start to arrive in October, but it’s with the expectation of teaching. There is a lot of kindness and patience to go around. Instead of discouraging employees to report injuries and accidents, the staff is begging people to do it “Please, it’s ok, we aren’t mad, look this is why we have chemical flush stations oh god please just let us take you to the hospital” conversations have happened.
It’s safe here. It really is.
Now I just have to keep pushing through all the residual anxiety.
I have a weekly scheduled meeting with my direct supervisor just to touch base, check in, see how things are going. Every single meeting has been delightful and every single time the night before and up to it I’ve been getting “called to the principals office” unnecessary anxiety vibes. Literally my last meeting when I walked in the door started with him saying “Ah! I’m so happy you are here! I’m so glad to have you on staff” like excuse 404ERROR my brain does not know how to handle this yet.
I spent a month worrying about my drafts for new menus and they were due yesterday. I was a little dissatisfied with them, I felt like I hadn’t done enough, and I pointed out in the email that these weren’t comprehensive, but that I felt like they were a good start - look, I had seven banquet and catering menus to write, including planning all the holiday pick up meal menus for the next year. Imagine if someone asked you to write every single variation of your skill but also pare it down to a manageable list that isn’t overwhelmed with too many choices. It’s HARD.
And the email I got back after sending those off last night: “Wow! You’ve really outdone yourself! This is more than I could have ever asked for or expected, I can’t wait to go over it” etc etc.
Current Me is a WiP and is cautiously pleased, but yeah. I can see how 5 Years Past Me would have imploded on the spot and been completely unprepared for this level of decency.
So anyway. We will see how it goes, but overall, I’m happy.
Also I forgot how desperately I need water and sunshine and I’m pretty sure I’m actually just a damn tropical flower because I am absolutely thriving in 90F Florida humidity and full sun.

Jinxed // Spencer Reid x Reader
Gender Neutral!! (Spencer Reid is a bi icon and you can't tell me other wise.)
In which the Reader just wants to talk about their feelings to some of their best friends, who they think will give them the best advice. But, they can't seem to get a word out without a certain Doctor interrupting.
Tumblr media
//||□○□||\\
It was a really long case, and honestly you'd never been more tired in your life. But, Garcia had plead that you visit her and update all about your "adventure" with the team.
See, you actually tended to stay at the BAU headquarters with her but with your odd ease with children -and knowledge about early psychology-, Hotch had you tag along.
You ended up getting the last detail needed to find the perp, and you were very proud of yourself. Other than that though, you had spent almost all your time with Reid.
Hotch, although he asked you to attend, wouldn't let you anywhere near the field because of the lack of experience. This meant you were at the local police station, as you said helping Reid with linking locations and finding out more from the Encyclopedia that is his brain.
You worked together well, which was both good and bad, depending on if factored in the raging feelings for the Doctor. It was never said out loud though, you didn't want to have the chance of the smart man listening in.
You needed to tell someone.
"Y/N!" Garcia chirped, as you waltzed out of the elevator, your body aching for sleep.
"Hey, Garcia," you muttered, trying to focus on each step in front of you, and also not be rude to your peppy pal.
"C'mon, honey-" she ushered you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders as you simply followed, oddly entranced by her sweet perfume, "-I'll get you some snacks. Mama Garcia's here."
You chuckled lightly, but found yourself humming, "I could marry you Garcia!"
"Oh, you wish, my darling-" she opened the door to her techie room, and she sat you in a chair, "-but I'm too good for you."
"'Course you are," you smiled, crossing your legs in the rolly chair, "-anyway, what's on the menu, G?"
She spun around in her chair, clicking her pen, "Ah, ah, ah. You spill, and you get some banana bread I made yesterday, for reasons you don't have to know."
You groaned, rubbing your temples, "What do you want to know?"
She scooted close to you, "I already know everything about the case, but I want to know the juicy stuff. Like, maybe... the fact that you were with Reid every time he called me? That's interesting, don't you think?"
You rolled your eyes, a small smile echoing on your features, "Hotch didn't want me on the field, and Reid was just there too, why is that important?"
Garcia raised her eyebrows, "You know why that's important, don't try to fool me."
You rolled your eyes, hiding the growing smile on your face, as you spun in your chair to tame your laughter.
Garcia held the chair, forcing you to stay still as she spoke, "So? What happened?"
You smiled, throwing your hands up, "Fine, you got me. I think I'm in love w-"
Garcia interrupted, eyes wide and jumping up from her chair, "Shh!"
She was focused behind you, at the door, and you felt your stomach drop at the idea that he stood there-
"You're in love, Y/N?"
You cursed under your breath, and spun around to lock eyes with the familiar brown eyes.
"Reid! Hey, what- what are you doing here?"
You tried to act as normally as possible, which was a bit hard because what if he heard the whole conversation? What if he was repulsed? This would not end well-
"I-" Spencer paused, holding up two takeout bags, "-I got you some dinner, you hadn't eaten during the investigation so... I thought I'd get you something."
You smiled, standing to retrieve the food with a curious eye, "Is this...?"
"Your favorite," Spencer hummed, "-I hope so. I know you get it more frequently than your sandwiches, or salads from anywhere else. So, I assumed-"
"Thank you, Spence," you hummed, taking it from his hands with a careful smile.
The silence lasted for a breath longer than it should have, as you waited for Spencer to say anything that could mean good news. It was getting more awkward by the second-
"And," Garcia jumped up, rushing beside you in a split second, "-you don't get to know a thing about what we were referring to, Mr. Smartypants. That's patient-doctor confidentially."
Spencer scrunched his eyebrows, turning to Garcia with his eyes, "...but you're not a... doctor?"
"It's a metaphor Spence," you shook your head, hard-eyeing Garcia to the side, "-she's just saying the secret is an unspoken one."
"But-" he paused, doing that scrunch thing with his nose -like he always does when he's confused-, "-that's an actual medical practice... It's unusual to ever be used as a-"
"Reid!" Penelope groaned, "Y/N is the only person in the BAU, who trusts me with their secrets, you're not ruining that for me."
"Wait, what do you mean only one? Why-"
Spencer nodded, a shine in his eye, "Well, that's kind of a given. You statistically slip-up with secrets about... 68% more than any other BAU member."
You raised a brow, "Where are you getting those statistics?"
Spencer cleared his throat, a light flush brushing onto his cheeks, "I do my research, and just because I sit at my desk and read most of the time, doesn't mean I don't hear things, really."
You and Garcia raised your eyebrows a bit in surprise, as the boy wonder seemed to play a mastermind villain. That was new.
"So," Garcia spoke, "-what I'm hearing is that you know all about the juicy gossip in the office? Reid, why don't you tell me? It's always the one they least expect-"
"Your research?" you spoke, branching off on a completely different conversational topic, "Reid, who do you think is the safest to confide in? Scientifically, of course."
Reid paused, watching you for a second, "Well, Hotch is definitely up there, but his empathetic skills are kind of lacking. Garcia is the opposite, she has the empathetic view, but also, can't stay quiet about it for long."
Penelope rolled her eyes, "No, need to profile me, you sweet, sweet nerd."
Reid continued, placing his take out in his satchel and moving his hands to visualize it -you guessed, "Emily is a good bet, but once she's drunk, it'd be safe to assume the secret is compromised. Derek is also a good bet, but... um, I'd imagine he'd be pushy and teasing."
There was something different about that one, as he stuttered it out in a bit of frustration. He'd definitely told Morgan something and recieved the bad end of the deal.
You looked up to Garcia, and she read your eyes with a look of agreement. Pulling out her phone and wandering back, she mouthed 'On it!' as her fingers went typing away.
"JJ, well," Reid continued, unmoved by the fact that Garcia had left their conversation, "-she's probably up there as well, but if push comes to shove, she'd definitely just... motherhen you until you shared it. I would be a plenty good candidate, I don't think I've ever shared a secret within the BAU-"
"But-" you interrupted him, your eyebrows furrowed, "-you have a tell, Spence."
Spencer pursed his lips, eyes darting slightly, "I do?"
"Uh, yeah-" you muttered, falling back into the extra chair Garcia had pulled for you, "-your face is full of tells. When it's a happy secret, like... Rossi's surprise birthday party! You have to hold back a smile constantly. A secret that's got you genuinely worried about someone? You glance to them like every five minutes, and your eyebrows furrow way more than normal. A sad secret? Your eyes are just like a sad puppy's, and you allow more physical touch."
"I-" Reid opened his mouth, but you continued, not even noticing the wide flush spread across his cheeks and tips of his ears.
"When it's a really big secret? That's when nervous or odd Reid comes out. You either dart your eyes/can't make eye contact, and you clasp your hands a lot. I assume, to stroke your palm, as a sense of comfort. Or you undereact to everything surrounding that secret, which just causes more suspicion, by the way-"
You finally looked up to Spencer, who was -at this moment- looking like he was about to implode. His face was bright red, and you thought it was really cute but also, you felt terrible for putting him through that.
You stopped, pausing, "Oh God, I'm so sorry, Spence. I didn't mean to offend you-"
"What?" Spencer blinked, his eyes no longer glazed over, "-Oh! No, that was... fascinating really! You don't even necessarily have to stop, if you don't want to. Not that I like it, or anything. NoT THAT I don't like it either, it's just-"
At this point, you'd fallen victim to your own blush, as Spencer rambled over something that did seem that big but he was getting redder by the minute-
You enjoyed this a bit too much, actually.
To be your saviour once again, Garcia screamed as high-pitched as she could.
At such a noise, you almost fell out of your chair, you got up so fast, "G? Everything okay?"
Garcia looked up, "Uh, yeah. Totally, definitely. It's just ya know- a spider, yeah."
You raised an eyebrow, as Reid -who now stood beside you- spoke in a questioning tone, "On your phone?"
She bit her lip, throwing her eyes between you and Spencer, "Yeah, uh totally nothing to do with you guys. Derek sent it to me as a prank, and it doesn't have a single bit to do with the two agents right in front of me, right now."
You furrowed your eyebrows, "Are you sure everything's alright?"
Garcia spun to her computer, "Oh, of course! Why wouldn't everything be alright? It's uh- Nothing's wrong, and nothing's going on. I don't know anything about the secret romance that may or may not be going on in the office. Nope, not me."
You glanced at Reid, who although he had a few of the tells you spoke of earlier, shrugged his shoulders.
"Um," he spoke, confused, "-Penelope, what are you talking about?"
She was basically sawing down on her lip now, as she opened her mouth and then shut it again, and finally closed her eyes, "OUT! Both of you out, I... I can't handle this monumental information with you both standing right in front of me. So, scram!"
You opened your mouth, "What? You wanted me in here, Penn. I don't und-"
Garcia grabbed your shoulders, "If you love me, take the beanstalk boy, and exit this room."
"But, I-"
"Please."
You sighed, picking up Spencer's take out, and grabbing his satchel's strap with unhesitant ease, "Come on, Spence. We gotta go."
"O-Okay," Spencer noted, following close behind you without hesitation, you two just trusted each other. It didn't take much.
You pulled him out into the BAU hub, and finally let go of him, spinning around to talk about that odd experience.
"So, Spence-" you grabbed, a rolly chair from a random desk and sat in it, placing your food in your lap, "-what do you think that was all about?"
"Probably a secret," Reid blurted, he'd seemed a little off as he said that, doing the same as you and pulling a chair to sit.
"Oh," you pursed your lips, digging in your bag and pulling out the container, "-who do you think it's about?"
Spencer looked at you, a bit baffled, like he'd expected you to pick up on something, but you hadn't.
He shook his head, tossing his wonderous hair as he did so, "Could be anyone, I guess."
He fidgeted with his food, picking his fork into the dish and quietly muttering something you couldn't quite hear.
"Spence?" you hummed, as he looked up to you, "-everything okay with you?"
Spencer paused, blinking, "Huh? Oh, yeah. I'm fine. Just tired, actually."
You frowned, "Man, is there something on my face? God, everyone has been weird around me today."
Spencer perked up, "What do you mean?"
"Ever since the big break," you spoke, a little worried, "-everyone's been looking at me weird. Like they know something I don't."
"Oh," Spencer echoed, watching your face fall slightly, "-well, actually. There was an... officer in the Chicago Department. He had a crush on you, and was really obvious about it. The team thought it was funny you didn't notice."
You raised your eyebrows, as Spencer didn't make eye contact and a quiet blush swept across his cheeks, "Really? Wow. I'm not surprised, I... uh, never pick up on those cues."
"Was there-" Spencer added with a slightly hardened tone, "-Was there any cop there you were hoping it'd be? You don't have to answer, I'm honestly just curious-"
"No, uh-" your eyes flashed up to him, "-not there. All of those guys were... weird."
He laughed, eyes lightening up a bit, "So, you're picky, huh?"
You smiled, "Maybe so, Reid, maybe so."
|//□◇□\\|
It was early morning and you were to stay at the BAU for a case, as usual. However, this time Rossi was staying too.
Something about getting his book finished and to the publisher on time, he'd avoided the plane ride and now, sat with you gazing over the large table with case files spread hastily across it.
It was a gruesome case, one where Garcia practically gagged just presenting it to the team. You honestly couldn't think about the specifics, without doing the same.
"So, Rossi-" you spoke, eyes skimming over a victim's file, "-what do you think the symbol branded on t-"
Rossi didn't look up, as he spoke, "When are you going to tell him?"
You raised your eyes, splitting a confused smile on your lips, "I'm sorry, what?"
"Reid," he clarified, his eyes steadied on the pictures scattered across the table.
You stuttered, your face a tinge of red, "I have no clue what you're talking about."
Rossi added, finally looking up, "You know the poor boy doesn't have the guts, Y/N. You're kind of hard to read as well, so you're probably going to have to make the first move."
"I-" you muttered, low and under your breath, "I don't know how."
"For him? It's simple," Rossi addressed, his hands up as if he was selling a new invention to you, "-you just have to be honest and straightforward, little one. Tell him that-"
A voice spoke up, "Tell who what?"
Rossi stopped, his eyes darting to the new figure in the room, "I thought you got on the plane, boy wonder?"
"Yeah, Spence," you spoke, raising a brow and trying to cool your cheeks, "-what's up?"
"I uh, forgot my passport at home," he hummed, his eyes anywhere but on yours or Rossi's.
You scrunched your eyebrows at Rossi, who just like you had the same idea. There was no way that was the truth.
Rossi cleared his throat, "Uh, Y/N, we'll continue our conversation elsewhere. And Reid-"
Spencer looked up at him, with his head tilted like a little puppy. He was insanely cute, you honestly don't know how he worked himself into the FBI with how much he'd seemed so... innocent, really.
Rossi continued, "We'll talk about this later, capiche?"
Spencer nodded, eyes caught up in the evidence scattered amongst the table, "Yes, sir."
||//■○■\\||
"Yeah, and then, the guy came up to me and said-" Emily narrated, each member on the edge of their seat, as she'd told her -one and only- blind date story.
"Y/N?" Hotch spoke, tapping the doorframe of his office, signaling you to come in.
Tapping Penelope's leg, you made her promise to tell you the rest of the story, if you missed it, and waltzed right up the stairs to his office.
"Hey," you smiled, a dash of concerned, "-what's going on, sir? Is everything alright?"
"I needed to run something by you," he spoke, intelligent and in no way was his voice odd so that you could dissect it, "-please, sit."
You nodded, immediately taking you're place in the seat across from his desk, "Of course! What am I looking at?"
Hotch spoke, as he carefully moved to take a file out of his desk drawer, "As one of our press/legal employees, there's been an edit to a section of our contract, and I wanted you to be one of the ones who ensures everything is correct within the document."
"Oh, it's my pleasure, sir-" you hummed, taking the file out of his hand, "-am I taking this home? Or?"
"No," his eyes flashed to the door, "-it's a pretty small edit, just read it over and let me know. You can preferably sit in here and read it."
"Oh, okay," you hummed, a little confused, but your eyes settled on the document.
'Inner Office Relationships:
Now, available if properly addressed to the supervisory agent of both parties.'
"Um, Hotch," you mumbled, eyes scanning across the full-fledged page, as only one difference stuck out to you, "-is this about...?"
"Office relationships? Yes," he confirmed, eyes lingering on you -with a slight pass to the door, "-so...?"
"So, what, sir?" you questioned, flipping the file open and closed as the awkwardness in the room peaked.
"You and Dr. Reid," he spoke, eyes telling all, "-it's been adjusted for the betterment of the BAU, specifically you two."
"I-" you blinked, unsure of what to say as you'd never seen Hotch this way.
"Listen, Y/N, just-" he paused, careful and concise, "-if it happens, please inform me for the sake of th-"
"Sir?" Reid waltzed in, a file filled with papers in his arms as his eyes stayed trained on them, "I've skimmed these documents, and the only difference I can really see between the two, is that office relationships are allowed, as long as you inform your su-"
His eyes moved up from the papers, and upon landing on you, he tripped and the file came crashing down. All the papers fluttering in the air, as he simply muttered, "Oh."
"I-I, uh, apologize, sir-" he scrambled, his ears burning a bright red, as you leaned down and picked up some of the papers with him, "-I didn't realize, you'd had company in here. I'm sorry for interrupting."
"Reid," Hotch smiled at him, "-it's fine, Y/N here, was reviewing the same document as well."
"Oh," Reid said again, ultimately trying to hide into himself, as he ashamedly picked up the fallen papers.
You paused, holding the stack you'd gathered, "Uh, actually, sir. I'm just curious, but why was that change made to the document? Do you know?"
"Actually," Hotch glanced at the other Agent in the room, "-someone sent in a request to change the document."
You raised an eyebrow, tilting your head slightly, "Oh, do you have any idea who did that?"
Reid, who had been bent slightly under the table, shot up and rammed his head into a smaller table by a couch that lined the wall.
"Ouch..." he muttered, cradling his head with hand and you immediately jumped up, concern brimming under your fingertips.
"Jeez, Spence!" you stood on your tippy-toes to get a good look, "-I don't think you're bleeding, but we'll have to get you some ice for that, just to be safe."
"Yeah," Spencer laughed nervously, his voice strained as he side-eyed Hotch, "-we should obviously go that. We can't stay in here."
In a few short minutes, Spencer was ushering you out and as you stepped out, you watched all your coworkers unabashedly act like they were not watching the whole time.
You groaned, briskly grabbing Spencer's hand, and dashing on by the the break room. You'd rather not hear anything any of them have to say at this moment, unless it was Emily's story. That was all you'd wanted to hear-
"Uh, Y/N?"
You blinked, as Reid motioned to his head, and with a swift glance to your connected hands, you blushed, "Oh, sorry, Spence. Got distracted."
He laughed, as you carefully slipped your hand out of his and scurried to get a bag, some ice, and some paper towels. Or maybe just find an ice pack in the fridge?
"So," you addressed, as you skimmed the freezer for an ice pack, "-what was that about?"
"What?" Spencer asked, until his mind clicked and he added, "Oh, I just... I don't know, I got a bit nervous, er- surprised."
You smiled into the fridge, -finding an ice pack buried under some peas, or something, you weren't sure-, "It was you who requested the change, wasn't it?"
"No," Spencer squeaked, and you could only imagine the tips of his ears getting redder.
"You can't lie to me Spence," you hummed pulling off a few paper towels, and wrapping the around the ice pack, "-remember?"
"Anyway," you continued, walking towards him, "-I don't blame you, there are some very attractive people in this BAU. I'm just curious which one you're trying to sweep off their feet Doctor Reid?"
"It's-" Reid stuttered out, gently taking the ice pack from you hands, "It's not like that."
"My money's on JJ," you spoke with a tongue of hurt in your tone, as you locked eyes with those familiar brown ones.
"What?! No," Spencer practically yelled, "-she's married!"
You shrugged, "Doesn't stop most guys."
"Pfft," he chuckled, throwing up his freehand, "-you don't think I'm one of those guys, do you? I mean, look at me!"
He motioned down to his sweater vest and perfectly placed tie, and somewhere in your head you had to disagree.
You smirked, getting up and exited the room with a shake of laughter, "It's always the ones you don't expect, Reid, it's always the ones you don't expect."

It was the team's night out, everyone was at a dimly lit, crowded karaoke bar. Although, you didn't quite prefer crowds, you wouldn't have it any other way.
Derek and Garcia were out dancing on the floor, Hotch and JJ were at home with their respective families, Rossi went home early, Reid was never one to attend these outings, and you and Prentiss sat in a booth, tired but still wanting to drink.
She sipped on her small glass, eyes locked on you with a glance you'd grown familiar to.
You smiled, a bit of a confused one as always, "What, Em?"
Prentiss raised her eyebrows, "So, I heard about the Reid thing."
You rolled your eyes, "What Reid thing?"
"Don't," Emily tipped her drink to you, with a teasing grin, "-I'm a profiler, Y/N, don't underestimate me."
You raised a brow, knowing there was no possible way that Reid would end up here, you were safe, "Fine, what do you want to know?"
"Well," Emily looked out into the crowd, and then back at you, "-why haven't you asked him out?"
"It's-" you paused, gnawing on your lip, "-complicated, Prentiss."
She opened her mouth, looking back at you, when it suddenly turned into a gasp. And you didn't even have to look back to know what was going on.
"What's complicated?"
Emily's eyes widened, "Woah, Reid! You never come to the karaoke nights with us, I'm- I'm so glad you came!"
He scoffed, obviously lying, "I go to tons of parties with you guys. All the time."
"Yeah, no, Spencer-" Emily added swirling her drink around, as she eyed the book in his hand and bottle of water, "-you don't."
You furrowed your brows, Spencer had frequented quite a few of them -in your presence at least, wait. Had he only showed up when you did?
Emily practically read your mind, as Spencer sat just beside you, "You only show up when Y/N says they're going to be there, hotshot. And I could probably get proof of that."
"I-" Spencer paused, clearing his throat, "-I don't know what you're talking about."
"Sure, you don't," Emily hummed, as she stood, "-I saw a hot girl on the dancefloor, I'm going to go talk to her, lovebirds. Talk to you later!"
You shook your head, laughing, "How wasted do you think she's going to get tonight?"
Spencer paused, "Usually, I'd say 9 times out of 10, she ends up puking on the floor, or leaving with someone else."
"So, maybe the chances are in her favor with that girl, huh?" you smiled at him, for just a second and peered over the glass.
He grinned right back, a glint in his eye that you hadn't recognized, "Yeah... Maybe, just maybe he does."
You hadn't thought much of the pronoun change with the loud, boisterous music, and with your heart fluttering at the wide grin -that was just utterly contagious-, let's just say you were... a little distracted anyway.

It was the obligated BAU dinner night at Rossi's, he was talking about some sort of pasta. You could tell it looked kinda like lasagna, but you wouldn't dare say that to the older man's face.
He'd probably have you kicked out, if you did.
You wouldn't blame him, either.
"Y/N!" Rossi exclaimed, his face a wide smile, "I can trust you to know what oregano is, right?"
"Uh," you paused, trying to take a minute to think, "-yes? I think."
"Good," Rossi hummed, "-take Morgan, and go pick up some from the Deli's down the street."
You chucked, catching the keys thrown your way, "Yes, sir! But I better get the first piece of that bread, mister."
Rossi winked at you, "If you come back with oregano? Consider it done."
With a pep in your step, you waltzed to the living room where a few familiar faces sat. Derek was there, his arm slung around Penelope, and Reid was bent over in laughter.
You blinked, refocusing on the task at hand -you could stare at Reid later, "Hey, Derek?"
All three people looked up with distant smiles, Reid's eyes twinkled like they always did, as Morgan answered, "What's up, my sunshine?"
You laughed, "Rossi has assigned us to pick up some oregano, you coming?"
"Always with you," Morgan grinned, his bright, teasing grin that you'd grown familiar with.
"Alright," you rolled your eyes, "-let's go then, mister. I'm sure Reid can occupy Penelope, no?"
Reid blinked, like he was knocked out of his trace, "What?"
Derek laughed, smacking the tall man on the back, "You heard them, Reid. Keep my girl satisfied, pretty boy."
With a laugh, he pulled an arm over your shoulders and smiled, "Our chariot awaits."
You nodded, and followed Morgan out the door, you'd had about 30 minutes until the store closed anyway.
The car ride was silent, as Morgan pulled into the driverseat, his driving would get you there faster and neither of you wanted to miss such a meal.
"So," Derek hummed, hands trained on the wheel, "-do you-"
"I swear to God, if this is about Reid-" you threw your hands up, rubbing your eyes.
"What?" Derek raised his brows, "What about Reid? I was just going to ask if you'd decided on a pet to adopt, sunshine."
"Oh," you paused, a bit surprised.
"What's-" Derek grinned, his eyes obnoxiously shining, "What's going on with Reid?"
"Well, uh-" you rubbed your hands together, "-basically everyone in the BAU has tried to 'confront' me about him."
"Oh," Derek hummed, "-is it about you two being lovebirds? And that pretty boy has no way of being the one to make the first move."
You sighed, "Not you too."
Derek shrugged, "What? You guys are obviously just dancing around each other, and we're a team of profilers. It's not hard to see you two."
You pursed your lips, "If so, why can't Reid read me?"
Derek mumbled, "What do you mean?"
"If it's so obvious," you hummed, quieter than necessary, "-then why doesn't he do anything about it?"
"That's a question for Reid, sunshine," Derek hummed, "-but we all know he's not particularly good at social cues."
"So?" you hummed tapping your inner leg, "I'm surprised we haven't been interrupted yet, actually."
Derek furrowed his eyebrows, "What?"
You chuckled, shaking your head, "Uh, everytime I talk about my feelings, Reid always pops into the conversation before I can even speak."
Derek scoffed, "How many times have you tr-"
He was interrupted by his phone buzzing, and a familiar name shining onto his screen. His eyes widened, as you sighed. It happened yet again.
"Speak of the devil," Derek gasped, with a small smile and clicking on the call, "Hey, pretty boy. You're on speaker."
"Oh, hey!" Reid was scatterbrained, his words quick like when he was nervous, "Rossi wanted me to go with you guys, I was told to call you before it was too late."
"Not that I don't enjoy your company, Reid-" you spoke, carefully, "-but why would you need to be here?"
"Yeah, sunshine here-" Derek spoke, looking at you with a raised eyebrow, "-has a point boy wonder."
Spencer continued, his voice raised to a slightly higher pitch, "Uh, maybe ask Rossi?"
"Sorry, Spence," you shook your head, working it out in your head, "-we're not turning around. It really doesn't make any sense, we're almost at the store now."
Derek grinned, one you knew he wore specifically for Reid, "Yeah, and to me, it just sounds like pretty boy here has a case of jealousy. Nothing too urgent."
"I-" Reid echoed, defensive, "-uh no, that's not what's happening, Rossi did-"
You raised an eyebrow at the uncharacteristically not Spencer tone of Spencer's voice, mouthing to Derek, "What's that about?"
Derek snickered, but he didn't explain. As usual.
"Listen, Reid-" Derek added, his voice steady with an air of teasing, "-although Y/N is very irresistible, I will refrain from stealing them away from you."
"I-" Spencer's voice spoke, exhausted and a bit defensive, "-I never said Y/N was mine, Morgan. Rossi just wanted-"
"That's enough, boy wonder-" Derek hummed flipping the phone to his ear, "-you're off of speaker now."
You watched as Morgan carefully listened to the distant hum of Spencer's voice, and a giant smug grin slipped across his face. One that just screamed that he'd tease Reid later.
Derek winked at you, as he responded with a telling gleam in his eye, "So Rossi did tell you to come, but after you annoyed him in to doing so? Still sounds like jealousy, kid."
There was a loud yell on the other end, a bit of a frustrated tone, you could tell. Derek had done it once more, Reid was frustrated.
"Hey, baby girl-" Derek spoke as smooth as butter, "-I'm sorry you had to take his place, but can I politely ask you to tell pretty boy to man up?"
You snorted, confused but at this point, you'd found bliss in the unknown. With such a big secret, you'd easily began to understand that silence was key in most areas.
With a sigh, you'd turned to look out the window and your feelings mustered in your chest. Another fail.
//||♡◇♡||\\
It was an exhausting morning, although no case had spiraled into your department, everyone was busy wrapping up previous paperwork. Including those with families, which you found to be absolutely devastating.
You kept glancing up at JJ, she seemed exhausted and she had the cutest little boy at home -who not to mention was Reid’s godson. Henry was an angel in every aspect of the word with what little you’d interacted with the boy, you’d still die for him.
Plus, watching Reid interact with him? He’d be a great Dad, just based on that.
Not, not necessarily with you.
It could be, you’d pegged Spencer as one who would adopt. His wonderful brain probably knew all the statistics of orphans and chances of mishaps in birth and percentage of abandonment in this city. You’d actually only wanted to adopt too, so maybe you were just projecting-
Okay, re-center.
You blinked, watching as JJ’s stack of papers kept growing and you kept imagining Henry getting sadder by the hour... You had known since coming back to the team, and being the lead in the communication and press department, she’d really been weighed down.
You’d had the sort of specialist as well, dabbling in the press, and you definitely didn’t have any loving husband and child at home. With a sigh, you raised up from your spinning chair, taking a longing look at your small stack and approaching JJ.
Clearing your throat, you sat in a chair by her desk with a smile, pretending to dust off the stack, “You’ve got your night made, huh?”
JJ lightly chuckled, “Yeah, all of these are for various press releases in the past few weeks. It’s really a nightmare.”
“Do you-” you pursed your lips, thumbing through the one on top, “-I know I’m not the Jennifer Jareau, but I’ve worked in press and pretty sure all of your conferences are taped somewhere... Do you think I could pick these up for you?”
JJ blinked, pausing for a second, baffled, “You’d... You’d do that for me?”
“Well,” you rolled your eyes, playfully, “-more like for Henry, but...”
JJ chuckled, “Right, of course. I’ll just... go ask Hotch? And this means so much to me, you don’t even-”
You waved her off, “No, let’s just say you owe me one? That fair? To be honest, I was just going to go home and binge a few episodes. Like the cliched unsuccessful adult. Plus, I don’t have a cute little family to go back to. So... I want to do this for you.”
JJ paused, “Okay, but I do owe you one, for real. No take-backs.”
You nodded with a smile, patiently following JJ with your eyes -you’d had a habit of ensuring everyone you’d known got to their next location safely, it came with the job. Just at the base of the stairs, JJ ran into the familiar man you just couldn’t get out of your head: Dr. Spencer Reid.
Their words were hushed, Spencer trying desperately to keep it at a low volume, and JJ seemed to be well... mother-henning him. Derek walked up beside you, just as JJ started to motion towards you -quite vividly, actually.
She was pointing her eyes to you, you saw her mouth your name a few times, and now she was... pointing at you. It took everything in you, not to laugh actually.
You spoke to Derek, with a sarcastic tone, “You think they’re talking about me?”
Derek chuckled, “You might be confused with the potted plant, sunshine.”
You snickered, going back to look at them, and now JJ was motioning you to come to her. Like angry mother, when you’d stayed out past curfew.
Raising your eyebrows to Morgan, he muttered with a smirk, “Someone’s in trouble.”
You shoved him over, as you made your way to the perhaps frustrated woman who had been motioning to you just earlier. Spencer was still standing there, awkwardly, actually, with quite the flush to his face.
“Uh-” you spoke, locking eyes with JJ, “-what’s up? I thought I was just going to go do your files, I-”
JJ grabbed your wrist, looking at Spencer with a stern eye, “Wait here, Reid. Don’t move. Y/N, can you step into the breakroom with me?”
At this point, the entire BAU was watching the interaction. Even Garcia was poking her head out of her tech room, and the rest were huddled across the room. You glanced to Spencer for some sort of explanation, but he just blinked at you with those once loved brown eyes.
They were on thin ice right now, because JJ seemed to be offended.
“I’m confused, but-” you met JJ’s eyes, quietly, “-okay...?”
JJ wasted no time, dragging your arm away, as you frantically said goodbye to him with a small smile. You always had to smile at him, it was like on a checklist in your head. You read somewhere that it helps people fall in love, it was probably scientific.
Sliding into the breakroom, she closed the door and slid the blinds down. You chuckled lightly just at the pure frustration on her features, Spencer must’ve said something really... offensive? He didn’t seem the type.
“So,” you spoke with a raised brow, “-can I ask questions now?”
JJ paused, anger dissipating from her furrowed brow, “Uh yeah, about that...”
“Let me guess-” you hummed, tired from the day, “-you can’t answer them?”
“Yeah,” JJ responded, carefully, “-hey, are you okay?”
You paused, actually debating in your mind, “Yes, I’d say so.”
JJ stared at you, “I... I don’t think so. Is it the Reid thing?”
You chuckled, a little hopelessly, as you sat at one of the small table, “It’s jinxed to talk about it, JJ. I’d be careful.”
“Jinxed?” JJ slid into the seat across from you, with a look of concern gleaming in her eye.
You raised an eyebrow, “Everytime it happens, Spence butts in.”
She scoffed, “You know, I think those might be coincidences. There’s no way that it could- Crap.”
You smiled wide, just out of the corner of your eye, you could see brown eyes slipping through the blinds. Spencer wasn’t that sneaky.
JJ was speaking kind of out of the side of her mouth, “Y/N, act shocked. I mean, jaw dropping.”
“Jaw dropping?” you spoke, raising your eyebrows and covering your mouth with an air of urgency.
JJ lips turned up, as she bit back laughter, “Perfect.”
Uncovering your mouth, you raised a brow, asking, “What is this for?”
“It’s to make Reid think we’re talking about something in particular,” JJ responded, her face barely flinching at the mention.
“And,” you added, “-lemme guess? I can’t know what.”
“Yes, I’m sorry,” JJ began, as the brown eyes vanished from the window, “-but, on the brightside, he’s gone! And we can continue our conv-”
Suddenly, the door burst open and -who would’ve guessed- Spencer came tumbling in like the clumsy man he is.
You blinked, turning to JJ with a tired smile, “You were saying?”
Spencer grinned, sheepishly, and spoke in a lighter tone than normal, “Uh, hey, you guys! I didn’t know we were having a meeting-” he slid into the seat beside you, “-anyway, so what are we talking about?”
JJ blinked, a little astonished at the very unSpencer-like behavior, lucky for her, you’d been dealing with this for ages and came prepared.
“Henry,” you answered, with a questitive tone, “-why? Should we be talking about something else, Spencer?”
Spencer blinked, turning towards you and on cue his ears went pink, “I uh- maybe?”
You laughed, continuing despite your own cheeks burning a bit, “Oh, you mean me picking up JJ’s work? That’s also mostly for Henry... Why do you need to know, Spence?”
JJ added, “Actually, he was talking to me, earlier, as I’m sure you saw... and he wanted to help you with the work? I don’t know why he went to me, but-”
“Oh,” you spoke softly, you turned to him, “-well if you have no plans, I’d really appreciate the help.”
“Pfft, plans?” Spencer echoed, face bright red at this point, “-I don’t... I’d never-”
“I’ll take that as a yes,” you raised an eyebrow, standing up from your chair with a smile, “-and JJ, thanks for the talk. I’ll just go grab those files off your desk.”
JJ smiled at you, “Again, thank you so much... I don’t know how I’ll repay you.”
“I’ll figure it out for you, Js” you laughed, slipping out of the room with a sigh of relief. Thank god you were out of that situation.
And just on the brink of peace, Derek spoke up, “What was that all about, sunshine?”
“You have to tell us!!” Garcia added, enthusiastically just like with everything else.
You groaned, playfully, “Not you two! You know my weaknesses so well.”
They stared at you, expectantly.
“Plus, it was about nothing-” you spoke, making your way to JJ’s desk, “-now, if you’ll excuse me... I have work to do.”
Garcia pouted, skipping away to her room with a look in her eyes that implied she’d ask questions later, and Derek shrugged it off.
With your back turned, you organized the stack on JJ’s desk. Trying to break it into two different stacks, making them even -despite knowing Spencer would 100% be faster.
Adjusting your grip, you heard the door close just behind you -that was the breakroom- and prepared yourself for either of them in your company. Taking the newly organized stack, you walked to your desk with as much energy as you could at this point.
Just as you sat down and pushed a stack onto Spencer’s desk -he was helping-, Derek’s voice caught your ear.
“Hey, you excited for your blind date tonight, pretty boy?”
You froze, looking up as Spencer looked nervously at you, “I actually promised Y/N that I’d help th-”
“Spence?” you asked, a little confused and a dash heartbroken, “-I thought you didn’t have any plans? I can pick these up on my own-”
Spencer scrambled, “Well, I actually-”
You interrupted, pulling the files back on your desk, “You just promised me Spence, go on your date. I don’t want to intrude-”
Spencer tried to speak up, “Y/N, wait-”
“Spence, come on-” you laughed, “-you can’t tell me you’d choose paperwork over a date? They could be the love of your life, Spence. Go on the d-”
“I’d rather be with you!” Spencer exclaimed, his face flushed to the max, “-I’d rather be here with you.”
“That’s my cue to leave,” Derek’s eyes widened, stepping back out of your view and you were a little speechless, honestly.
“Oh,” you laughed, pushing down any hope that may have risen in your chest, “-of course, Spencer Reid would choose paperwork over a date.”
Spencer sighed, “Oh god, how are you so oblivious and so cute doing it?”
“I uh-” you answered back, as your face fell red, “-what?”
Words began slipping past his lips, “I want to spend every waking moment with you, Y/N. Not just... not just paperwork.”
You swallowed, your mouth moving but no words coming out. The floor had literally been ripped out from under you, and you felt like you couldn’t breathe.
“Y/N?” Spencer wandered closer to you, eyes scanning the area and seeing the crowd building in front of the elevator, “-Here, come with me.”
“O-Okay,” you laced your fingers with his, as he dragged you into the breakroom once more, where JJ left apparently.
The two of you sliding back into the chairs from before
You blinked, as Spencer let out a breath, and you sat in silence for longer than you felt was comfortable. So, you decided to do something about it.
“So every waking moment, huh?” you smirked, with a bit of timidness in your tone.
Spencer smiled, his ears turning bright red, but he was oddly the most calm you’d ever seen him -leaning back in his chair with a warm look in his eyes, “If you want too? Maybe?”
You grinned, quietly extended your hand to meet his across the table with a small smile, “How about dinner first?”
Spencer scratched the back of his neck, with a nervous grin and took your hand across the table, “Of course, yeah... Yeah.”
“Not today though, Dr. Reid-” you hummed, “-if you don’t remember, you promised a certain person some help with some paperwork?”
Spencer played along, tapping his chin, “You know what, I think I might remember...”
“Oh, come on-” you laughed, pulling him from his chair, “-you big goof...”
“At least I’m your big goof,” Spencer added, as you pulled him off his feet.
“Yeah, of course,” you smiled, stopping in your place,”-but we really need to get to work, Spence.”
He smiled, his cute cheeky smile that you loved, “You’re right, we should get going.”
“Like actually though,” you broke the mood, “-we don’t wanna stay here all night, Spencer.”
“Oh, of course, yeah!” he responded, waking up from his daze, as the two of you prepared yourself for the night.
But hey, at least you were spending it with him, and maybe... just maybe you wouldn’t mind “every waking moment” either.

I feel like Charles is one of the best new characters that the show has had in a long time, a rare positive from these producers! He already feels like he is a proper part of the village and I like that he gets to interact with lots of different characters and has plenty of variation to his scene's. Ben up until now has barely been seen(thank the Lord) and Mack seems to only get to do the same scam over and over. It shows the show can still develop decent characters when they put the effort in!.
Yeah of the recent characters, he’s definitely one of the best. I think his job as a vicar is key in that. It allows him to interact with a lot of different characters and storylines. But it could be very one note too with him only having church business related stories and it’s not. He has the family connection with Ethan. He’s got his romantic stories with Andrea (ugh) and Manpreet waiting in the wings. And even just him first arriving and crashing at Rhona’s was a nice interaction. He’s definitely the most versatile new character.
I think Ethan has that potential too. He has his scenes with Charles and he’s dealing with his issues with Manpreet and who knows, maybe we’ll see more on his mother at some point, for real this time. He’s got a bit of lawyering going on with working on the Jimmy case, although I want to see more of that. But his job definitely gives him the potential to help out different characters as new stories crop up that require a lawyer and that’s good. And the cases can all be different. And he hasn’t had anything romantic yet, but there’s maybe potential there for him and Luke if they actually do something with that story. And it seems like he will feature in this pride stuff if it’s also involving the church, so that could be a good place to introduce something romantic potentially. And, even though it’s been pretty plotty so far, he does have a bit of a friend group developing with Vic, Luke, Matty and Amy and that’s nice. So he just needs to get a bit more screen time and development but I feel like he’s on his way.
I still like Meena for the most part even though obviously this latest bit with Ethan’s mum didn’t paint her in the best light. But overall, they’ve toned her down a bit and I think that was for the best and her relationship with Manpreet has settled a little, which is also been nice, even if it’s probably about to implode again. And she does have a romantic story with David even if it’s been pretty underdeveloped so far. But at least she gets around and has had interactions with a bunch of characters. There’s hope for her.
Mack has definitely interacted with a lot of characters but his stories are always very one note because it’s usually another dodgy job that someone new gets roped into. I still think the version with Aaron allowed him to branch out ever so slightly just because it’s sort of unclear what he wants from Aaron. You know, he obviously kind of wanted to sleep with Charity for whatever reason in the beginning and with Nicola it’s just been about money and convenience. And Mandy obviously just blackmailed her way in. With Aaron, it’s harder to tell because we don’t know if the show is interested in going there romantically and whether or not the flirting is more than just wanting to wind Aaron up. But he does seem to be weirdly intrigued by Aaron in some ways since they keep having him go back there. But who knows. I think it’s just the one thing I don’t have figured out, so I’m interested in it. But they do need to give him something else other than just a new dodgy job every week. It is repetitive and it’s not digging deeper into who he is. You know, Mandy got involved because she needed money for a specific reason. We know Nicola’s motivations for getting involved. Charity wanted back into the haulage because she needs new direction in her life and she’s been flailing lately. Aaron needed his help to find Connor for Liv and Vinny. But we still have no idea why Mack does all of this other than for fun and to make some quick cash. What does he need the money for? What makes him thrive on this kind of thrill? It’d be nice if there was something deeper there. And they’ve tried to do things with his relationship with Moira but I don’t think it’s ever quite hit right because it’s so kind of convoluted and “telling” instead of “showing” because we didn’t get to meet their mum and I don’t know if their dad is still around. He just needs something genuine and real.
And yeah...then there’s Ben. Who I have nothing to say about. Who I would like to just never return because honestly, what is the point.
But yes, I do agree that Charles is one of the best.

Is it okay to vent? I've been modding an rp group with friends and recently, I really haven't felt like things have been fair? Everything feels like it's swinging in favor towards a particular character of a person made recently mod and I hate it. It's also like there are several people very quiet in the group now and I've made like observations that might be concerning and brought it up, but no one seems to listen to me? I'm honestly just wishing I could care less right now bc while the original mod group was a group of friends, I'm struggling with feeling apart of it now and torn between going radio silence or forcing myself to expend effort more in hopes I'll actually feel like I have friends again.
Any time, Anon!
That is definitely an uncool situation right there, I'm sorry that's happening. If it makes you feel any better, I'm very sure that a lot of others understand too well what you're going through. I know I do! I wish I knew what the solid answer was to the entire, far too prevalent issue with RP groups failing for such reasons is, as well as this too frequently happening in any group of mods of anything, but I don't think there is just one answer that can be applied.
More specifically, though...to be painfully honest with you? The only thing here you can control is yourself. I know the suggestion should be a redundant and assumptive "have you tried talking to them more directly, you probably weren't direct enough" but lol you literally said you have brought this up and I don't feel like any number of times rehashing the way in which you've done so is going to make them listen. I'm not advising you to not try that, but I am advising you to not expect different results - only do that if it's going to help you move on. (Like, feeling a sense of well, I tried my best and they are not in a place to care, so, I'm done.)
I sincerely wish there was a way to just not feel things, not care about things, especially when you logically know it probably shouldn't dig at you as badly as it is! If anyone out there finds a secret to this, we're all dying to know, please share! But what you can do is slowly detach from the situation, and I think this might be best.
I know it was a friend group, I know how badly this hurts and how unfair it is...how it sort of changes the landscape of your RP time, too. I think, even if we do not consciously realize it, it's a goal most of us have to establish a good friend group we RP with, just like we establish friend groups in games. We feel so much more comfortable with this group of people we can enjoy all aspects of RP with, because let's face it, it can be a kind of odd thing to discuss with other people if they do not RP, even in a fandom. We also tend to develop our muses and our writing with our friends, naturally. So, achieving that only to lose it is tough, and it's tough no matter how many times it happens to you.
However, I really meant it when I said I don't think they're in a place to listen. Obviously, I'm not there in your RP group, I'm not seeing what is going on, I'm not hanging out with your friends (I mean? Probably? lol the RPC can be vast yet so tiny), but going off of what you've said and what I've experienced, that's really what I feel here. People have a simple tendency, in all group situations, to not be ready to see something as a problem until it's well past being easily addressed. Trying to force it into their field of vision is likely to make them angry and to see them more obstinately ignoring it.
Some reasons for that are not wanting to argue/fear of ruining things, genuinely being oblivious to the issue, enjoying the factors that are an issue for others, and favoritism. These are not things you can change. All you can do, as far as trying to address it again, is to figure out which of these/which combination is going on with the person in the group most likely to listen to you so that you can better talk to them. Whether you agree with them or not, understanding where someone is coming from is helpful to speaking with them. You can better phrase things so they're not triggering negative emotions.
For example, let's say you feel like it's a combination of this hypothetical one friend enjoying what is making others upset (let us say that this new member writes something with their muse they enjoy) and that it's become favoritism because of this and/or other factors (they're the one who brought them into the group, they were already a friend). Okay, so, now you have an idea of what you can say that won't prod at any feelings of accusation, jealousy, or even their own guilt.
Instead of: "Listen, I know x is your favorite person and you will always choose them over everyone else, but this is a real problem and I need you to hear me about it."
Try: "Hey, I'm needing to talk to you because I feel like this is such a serious issue. I've tried to discuss it with the entire group, but I've not been listened to and I know the group RP is as important to you as it is to me. I really enjoy x as well, they do y great and they're so z, but the way that the focus of the group has swung entirely to their character is a big problem for many in the group. If you've noticed, the activity of several others has dropped off. People feel they're not being listened to and that their characters and bits in the storyline aren't of equal importance anymore. What do you think we can do about this?"
Right out of the gate, you're expressing that you know they like this other person, but you don't dislike them or anything, you dislike what has happened in the situation. You've also given them the (correct) impression that this is endangering the RP, and that they are someone you feel is both interested and reasonable enough to want to fix the problem.
Again, do not expect that it's going to change anything, but if it'd make you feel better to try one more time, do it.
The problem so often with being a mod, even among a friend group who are also mods, is that moderators are very often set up only to act in the event of such extreme drama that the others won't want to deal with it. As a mod, you feel (again, correctly) that it's your job to...you know, moderate. That doesn't just mean disputes, it also means pre-dispute situations like this, among other things. However, the actual top moderator complaint is always that they're not listened to unless it's a problem that has kind of imploded the group. The kind of problem the rest of the group doesn't want to resolve for fear of seeming to play favorites or, frankly, fear of looking like a bitch. This is absolutely something that will put devastating cracks into the RP group, but since it isn't crumbling it rapidly yet...they'd probably rather that you just ignore it. Then, are rather likely to either drop the RP or want you to resolve it magically because you're the one who brought it up way back when it fixable.
So, we're back to "it's not a problem you can fix or control despite your position" yes.
And we can go back to what you can do to mitigate your own upset somewhat, also, yes. :D
There's this whole thing about ripping off the bandaid that just isn't applicable to all situations. (It isn't even applicable to all literal injury situations, damn.) This is one of them for a lot of people. Slowly distancing yourself so you can start putting energy into things that will return your investment of time, creativity, friendship might be better for you than just abruptly going radio silent, or even more drastically, leaving.
Don't engage with the group RP as often or in as timely a manner, be less of a presence there. It's difficult at first, but see, when you feel the drive to be there, you then use it for something else. If you have other RPs outside of this, reply to one of them instead. If you don't, start seeking out new partners/RPs instead. You have other RPs but they all owe you right now? Not a problem, do some character development. Whatever keeps you from spending as much time there.
As you do this, it's much easier to not be there. Just drop in to do what you have to. It becomes difficult, eventually, to be bothered to do so, I promise. A lot of other things you did not like that you were tolerating because these are your friends and this is something you enjoy, they'll become obnoxiously obvious. You know what else either will or won't? Them missing you being there.
If they do miss your presence and friendship, that's great! That's the best outcome. It might put into sharper perspective how bad the issue was, they might be more willing to address the problem now, make it a dedicated effort to not show that kind of attention to just one member's character/one member.
If they do not, then that does very much hurt. This is, unfortunately, how many friendships in the RPC decline. Not heated arguments, but rather, quiet inattention and replacement. If this happens, I'm so sorry, Anon. I can say all day long the total truth of the matter, that it wasn't the best group for friendship longevity and you can at least take the memories and lessons with you, but it won't stop it from stinging. However, because you have started to make other things your priority, it does lessen the upset.
Either way, this is a really frustrating situation! I think you've kind of answered what you need to do just in the phrasing here, "I'm struggling with feeling apart of it now and torn between going radio silence or forcing myself to expend effort more in hopes I'll actually feel like I have friends again." When we start feeling like have to force ourselves to expend more effort out of desperation to feel friendship like we once did, that's not a situation we should stay in. Sometimes, we just need to vent about it and see it pointed out to us to realize it, you know? Because it is hard to lose our friends and comfort zones, even when they've soured.
Maybe trial run slow distancing, just responding to the people who also feel like they're being left out, perhaps? Until the situation improves or you feel like you can move on easier. Nothing about this is going to be painless, but you can at least insulate yourself a bit while leaving the ball visibly in their court - I expressed this was a problem, it was ignored and is an ongoing problem, so, I'm not as invested anymore and it is up to you now to stay on that track or demonstrate some changes.
I hope that whatever happens, it's good for you! Even if it feels awful for a while, I hope it's eventually great. Maybe it's the thing you need to find an even better group, you never know until happens! I also hope that my delay in response didn't make things worse for you, please know I've felt really guilty about it despite not being able to get online :| I know just being seen at the moment you're feeling so frustrated and down helps so much!

Moving on (Platonic)
Tumblr media
IMAGINE: Your quest with your power goes wrong. And it attracts people who, at first glance, would want to hurt you for it. But, it turns out you couldn’t be further from the truth REQUESTED BY: @the-radio-star  (Sorry, it’s a bit of a long one and kind of drifts a little. But, I hope I’ve done you proud with the premise, :D)
To you, it was just another day. Only difference, was that you did not mean for it to get as out of hand as it had gotten. Instead of the regular damage you caused, this was…. more. Like, a lot more.
Instead of the burning cars, there were a lot of them. Some that you did not even mean to make into their result. You did not mean to. Still, that did not ease the guilt you felt for the actions in any way, shape or form.
Other than that, it was silence. The town you had kind of claimed as your own was a small one. You always liked that, the simple life of the place.
Now, the war on Inhumans had come to your hometown, and like hell were you going to just let the anti-inhuman crowd take over and destroy it.
That was what had led to here and now. You looked around at the chaos you had caused. There was a shop just to your left, now burning. The place held an old man who was kind to you. The man was obsessed with comic books (you did not get it. But it seemed to be the thing that kept him going in his old days. So, you indulged him).
He gave you some, what he called “sage advice” as you “mentor”. That advice being that, “Maybe your calling is elsewhere. Change of scenery wouldn’t hurt you.”
You did not exactly like the words but nodded with him either way to indulge him that you would do it. That you would take that advice.
He was probably in that shop now, burnt to a crisp. That did not exactly help things.
“Ah, Daisy.” Coulson said as Daisy walked into the director’s office. She looked at the screen, seeing camera footage of you in the burning town.
“Jesus, someone had a rough night out?” He rolled his eyes at Daisy’s words, only handing her a pad.
“This is the newest person in the welcome wagon.” She took it, now more interested. It had been a while since that had happened. Since she had been out trying to find another inhuman. If she was honest, she was getting lonely in that regard.
Do not get her wrong, she loved her friends (borderline family. She still was not there yet, a part still scared her on that part. That it would all be taken away the next moment). But, when it came to Inhuman’s, there were not any around that would understand her struggles with that.
Maybe meeting you would change yet. She could always have a new friend.
Looking at what information that had on you, her instinct on that seemed to be proven right (rarely was it wrong).
You, like her, did not know your birth parents. She could, obviously, relate to that. She saw that you had been on your own for a while. So, how the hell did you get your powers? No, she was getting distracted.
She got that pain, that raw pain that (in her mind) drove both of you (les her now. But, still). That pain of being abandoned, of not being someone. So, according to what she could read (and what SHIELD had found out on you), you threw yourself into a would-be vigilante. Looking out for your town.
It seemed like a nice town; despite your pain, you seemed to genuinely care about it. The way you took the fight to the crime in the area, along with the Watchdogs when they started to come to town.
Wow, there was a lot she could sympathise with when it came to your similarities.
Only difference was, she had found a place. You had not. Despite how it would probably look at first, she knew that she would at least try and get you to find yours as well.
Shakily, you went to your makeshift home, a van. Was not much to look at, you always told yourself that it would be a good way to get to your next destination when needed (whether that was too run or if you’d take the old man’s advice. You had always been leaning towards the former than the latter).
You slid open the door, taking a seat. You rubbed your hands as you tried to process everything that had just happened; how it had gone out of hand so quickly.
You pulled out your lighter, flicking it open and shut. You looked back at the wheel that almost begged you to be used. Begging for you to leave before it was too late.
The next moment, it turned out that you had already run out of time.
A slight breeze killed your flame; you flicked it back open, the same effect. Flicked it open, closed. Open, closed. Open –
“Hi.” You jumped at the soft voice, dropping the lighter. There stood a woman. It took a moment, but you then realised who it was. Quake.
Or Agent Johnson.
…. Fuck.
You got up; as soon as you did, a gun cocking was heard. Fuck, she was going to –
“Wait, wait!” She yelled. You, despite your better instinct, did as asked. Turning around, you saw that she had placed herself in between you and the agent you were aiming the gun. She held out her hand to both of you.
She turned to you with a face that held wide eyes, but her tone remained soft as she spoke, “We – I’m,” The correction didn’t help your nerves, “Here to help you. I am not here to hurt you. I’m Daisy, you’re y/n, right?” Her words seemed honest. Part of you still told yourself to run, however.
“Daniel’s, put the gun down.” She ordered the agent that had come with her. The agent looked to Daisy with an untrusting look.
“They aren’t a threat.” She argued, gesturing to you with her other hand, “Look, just let me talk to them. That’s what I came here for.” She said, firmly.
“Agent Johns—”
“No, I’m talking to them. If you want to stop me, call Coulson.” She all but spat at the agent. She then turned to you.
“I get it, ok? I really do. It is scary, people in suits…or used to be in suits. It think our new way is way more concerning if you ask me,” Both her hands were held up to signal that she wasn’t a threat; plus, her attempt at humour did make you lower your defences a small amount.
Daisy must’ve been good at reading people, as the next moment she continued; obviously seeing your slight shift, “I just want to talk about some things with you. That is, it, ok? That is, it, ten or so minutes, I swear.”
You thought about it, she was honest. There was just something about how much she had done in such little time to genuinely help you.
Plus, you could ease some of the ideas SHIELD probably had about you; set the record straight and all that.
Your next words made her smile, “…Ok.”
The first time you used your powers, it was self-defence. Bunch of asshole bullies being just that to you. You were not doing anything (you had your van by then. One you simply stole. The person never wanted to look for it, so you just kept the thing).
It was like, “Give me your school lunch money” but in the real world. It was, “Give me all of your money.”
Like hell were you going to give into that demand.
Despite being a scrawny kind on the street, you were able to fight. Scrappy? Sure, without a doubt. But, able to hold your own all the same.
Now. Being able to hold your own did not mean you kicked their asses. Now, you got like one or two shots in before…. well – before the tables turned.
In short, you got your ass kicked. Like, badly; really, really, really, badly.
In a last-ditch effort to work away from the fight (you were in America after all. You think you had the money to make it through?) you lashed out. Next thing you knew, they were flying backwards and hitting walls (one hit your van, which sucked).
“They made it out alive but spoke about the fight. Cops go to the place they described, and your van is not there. It is across town, instead. You wanna explain that?” Daisy’s tone was not harsh or critical. It was soft, as if she could understand why you took the action you ended up taking.
“Heard about it. Guess they shouldn’t have gone after whoever it was.” Daisy could not help the roll of her eyes that followed your answer. She got the defensiveness (herself holding that to the others at the start. The idea that all of it could implode at the drop of a hat).
Still, the eyeroll happened either way.
“Ok, fair. But, what about this one?” She asked, bringing out new eyewitness reports and photos of the aftermath.
It was when the Watchdogs had started to come to your town. You had seen the news reports of them, seen the damage they could do. But, more importantly, you saw what they wanted, that being to get rid of all Inhumans, by any means necessary.
Your small-town kind of became a sort of save haven. An unspoken place for Inhuman’s to stay. So, after the whole Afterlife situation (you got told about it from one of them) the word got out about your town.
You were not a leader. You never pretended to be either. You just had a rule: do not be an asshole and you would be fine.
And, that came to pass with almost all of them (a few outliers. But, every rule and term had its exception.)
Whenever someone else came to stay as they were passing through, it was just like they were normal (they were, that’s beside the point). They were given what they paid for and had enough resources to see them on their way.
That was when the Watchdogs came. And you and the other’s fought back.
You had lived with your power for a while, now. But you had never been taught how to control it. Most Inhumans that visited had their own issues going on, so they did what they could them moved on.
Now, that idea of Inhuman’s having a place in your town was at risk. So, like any people would do when their way of life is threatened; you all fought back.
“it was the first big thing I’d been in. I know that you guys probably have had actual wars. But…this was the closest I’ve gotten to that.” Daisy nodded, only listening to you. She could tell this moment influenced you.
Granted, she had been in firefights before. Now it was pretty much normal to her. For you, however, it was not. So, she could easily tell the trauma it had caused you.
“I’m sorry.” She offered you some condolences.
You shook your head, “Not your fault.” You said in response as you took a drag from your now lit cigarette.
“Oh my god.” You said as you but one hand to your mouth. The previous hour or so finally hitting you fully.
“Hey, hey, hey. It’s ok, it’s ok.” She assured you, now moving from next to you to in front of you as she placed a comforting hand on your knee.
“I….I killed them.” You all but sobbed out. She had no choice other than to nod at your wrap out of what had happened.
“It’s not your fault.” She comforted.
“Whose is it then?” You snapped. She didn’t take it personally. She just had to remember how she was when she first got her powers.
“The watch dogs. They tried to attack you. You were never given a chance to learn how to control it. Just pushed more and more. I’m just glad we found you when we did.” She said.
She moved herself next to you again, this time only showing you photos and running through other encounters they had picked up from this area. Thus, leading it back to you.
To her credit, Daisy did tell you when other Inhuman moments were done by others.
Then came the one you had dreaded coming up.
She handed you a photo. That photo held you on the camera, just an hour ago.
“That’s what brought me here.” She admitted as she tapped on your figure on the still image, “Some people wanted you to be taken to the RAFT.”
“The what?”
“A prison that goes under the fucking sea.” Your eyes widened. Daisy knew that it wasn’t a good idea to say it so bluntly. But she didn’t want to lie.
“But you aren’t going there. I have made sure. I have friends that can help you.” She said in assurance. You did not expect that, you didn’t expect her to offer you her help. You expected her to want to bring you in. To call you dangerous. Instead, she was instead wanting to help you control it.
Before you opened your mouth, a shot clanged against the side. You both leant back at the sound, Daisy leant forward, but kept you behind her.
“Fuck!” You cursed, climbing through the van to the driver’s seat. Daisy seemed to have a similar plan, climbing through the van but staying in the back.
“What are you doing?!” You yelled back as you tried to get the van to start. But it only stuttered, before dying once again.
“Covering us!” She yelled back, she fired a few shots; before she noticed more Watchdogs vans appearing and blocking your exit.
She looked back at you, she could tell that you knew roughly who she was before. Now it was time to show you what she could do.
You heard it before you looked; looking in the back mirror, you saw the vans being pushed backwards and her hand was held out.
“Go, go, go, go!” She said in one breath. You did as asked, finally as the van came to life. You put it in reverse, and slammed it on the accellorator. That sent you both back, Daisy had to grab a handhold to keep herself from falling over.
You clipped one of the van’s as you past it, before you then tried to straighten it out.
“Drive!” She yelled, looking at the SHIELD agent who had sadly fallen trying to protect you both.
You put it in drive, then stepped on it once again.
Daisy came to sit next to you, talking into her ear, “Coulson, we need some back up here!” Coulson must’ve responded, as she looked at you for a moment, “Yeah, I’ve got them….Ok, got it.” She said as she turned around and fired a few more shots at the new van’s that followed you.
“You’re doing great.” She said as she reloaded her weapon.
“Somehow,” That got her attention, as she looked at you, “Considering the only time I’ve driven this is to yet another alley way.”
Well, fuck.
“Great.” She said, quieter as she turned back and got back to her job of covering you.
She continued to shoot. Unfortunately for her, it wasn’t enough; a lucky shot clipped you in the shoulder.
She didn’t even have time to check on you, as you turned the wheel. The next moment, you collided with a post.
It was a blur to you. You were going in and out of consciousness. One moment you would see the van, the next you were leaning against a table, with Daisy next to you and looking over cover and then back to you.
“Oh, thank god.” She said in a rush as she put a light to your eyes to make sure you were there; and not just drifting in and out like before.
She let out another breath, you were there this time.
“How – how’d we get here?” You asked, quietly as you tried to save what energy you had left on fighting to stay awake.
“Couple townsfolk helped me get you in here. Seem like nice people.” She said, she ducked again as what you guessed was another Watch dogs van went past.
“My friends are almost here. Just gotta hold out a bit longer.” She said to you as she looked back over.
“How’d the bleeding stop?” You sounded genuinely confused. Daisy looked at you with a sympathetic look.
“I did, just a bandage that should work for now. My friend back home will do more when we get there.” Home, you had never really had that term applied to yourself before.
Maybe, if you weren’t going to bleed out. That term could apply to you as well.
“Hey, hey, hey. The hell are you doing?” She asked in slight panic as you readjusted yourself and started to stand.
“Look, we can’t stay here. They’ll just tear the whole town looking for me –”
“So, what? You’re just going to give yourself up?” You gave her as much of a deadpanned look as you could as you continued.
“I can’t hold them off and get them out of here alone. I’ll need your help for that.”
Daisy smiled and nodded. You nodded back; maybe that old man was right, maybe your calling really was else were.
Maybe you could finally get that change of scenery that he had always wanted, after all.
“Alright, ready?” She asked you. She handed you a spare gun (you were honest with her in that you had been forced to use on before) and looked out, the Watch Dogs were still patrolling, like you both guessed they would have done. But, you had a point, that you needed to get the attention away from the innocents before they got hurt.
The roads were empty, bar from the vans. So, this time, no one else would get hurt (even if your aim with your power was a little off).
“As ready as I’ll ever be.” You replied with. She nodded, opening the door.
“There they are!” A member shouted out, you clipped him on the shoulder (you never said your aim was good) and went behind an empty car as bullets came your way. Daisy was next to you, she fired some of her own.
“Do it.” She nodded encouragingly at you. You peered out, summoning a fire ball and then launching it at the Watch Dogs; Daisy used her power to give it further momentum.
“Thanks!” You yelled as more and more bullets clanged against the car.
“Of course.” She responded as you both fired and moved to another car.
“Oh shit!” She yelled, before she quaked you back. You skidded along the floor as the car you both hid behind had been hit with an RPG.
Your vision blurred once again; hands grabbed you, but then they started to drag you with no mercy.
“We got the freak!” One of them celebrated; you struggled all you could, only to no avail.
“No!” You heard Daisy yell out in fear as she saw you being dragged away. But she was pinned down by more and more gunfire.
You finally shook your head, channeling your power once more, this time internally. The two cried out as they dropped you. You hit one right in a place no one wants to be hit,  before punching another in the face.
You ran back, using another fireball to hit the car, this time on target.
“Y/N!” Daisy yelled out, getting your attention. You turned to her, she pointed to a plane (you’d later find out it was called a Quinjet) landing and kicking up dust.
You knew you could stay in your home town. But, now you knew that, with the Watch Dogs after you, it wouldn’t be safe.
So, you ran over to her, as she shot more and covered you as best she could. The ramp lowered, as you both ran aboard.
“May, get us out of here!” She yelled to the other woman who was flying the thing. She did so, wordlessly.
You slumped against your chair, out of breath once again. When you opened your eyes, Daisy was in the one opposite you. She gave you a small smile.
You had made it out.
“So, not all of these were you?” The man, Coulson, asked you as he looked at his file. You shook your head, Daisy placed a hand on your shoulder as she knew you were nervous about saying the wrong thing.
“Not all of them, no. Some were other Inhuman’s. Other’s just arson in general. I mean, they aren’t completely off the hook. So, you know, we didn’t get it all wrong.” Coulson looked up at Daisy with a tired, but slightly amused look. He looked between you both.
He clocked how Daisy seemed to be protective of you already. Seemed your short time already brought you a new friend.
He was glad he had sent her. Even if it hurt him to know that they had lost another agent.
Still, light amongst that dark and all that.
“Ok, we’ll give you a room to stay in. Daisy will introduce you to everyone. You are safe here, even if you do not wanna be on the front line or just be an ally to SHIELD. Your safe.” Coulson assured you.
“C’mon, y/n. Let’s get you settled in.” Daisy said as she gave you once last shoulder tap.
You had been welcomed to your new room, two people gave you a wave and smile from their lab. Daisy had helped you set it up (not that you had much) and then left you for a little bit.
You laid on your bed, for once feeling slightly at peace. The fact that you wouldn’t have to go to sleep terrified of the idea of something being stolen, or of being pulled out your van by robbers (that happened more than you wanted to admit).
For once, you were actually safe.
Maybe that old man wasn’t so crazy after all.

Do you have any zentan headcanons?? I’d love to hear them!
Aww, you bet I do!
Tumblr media
I’m sorry for taking such a long time. But oh dear, are you ready for this anon?
Sleep:
Zenitsu doesn’t say it out loud but he loves Tanjirou’s gentle sound. It makes him feel safe, tells him everything will be okay, and he instinctively reaches for Tanjirou whenever he’s distressed.
(When they’re sleeping, he naturally gravitates to Tanjirou and ended up laying in Tanjirou’s futon with his head resting on the latter’s chest, each thump of the heartbeat soothes every bit of tension he has even when asleep.)
The first time it happens Tanjirou is surprised but he doesn’t mind it much since his late brothers used to sleep in his futon.
Tanjirou must admit he rather likes it honestly, Zenitsu’s hair smells so pleasant. The sweetness of the scent reminds Tanjirou of peaches he used to get as a payment for the charcoal he sold to a kind old lady in some occasion. Needless to say, he can’t help but bury his nose in his golden locks as he breathes in and closes his eyes.
(Zenitsu never really notices he sleeps in Tanjirou’s futon since Tanjirou is an early riser and always wakes up first before him, though he is bewildered. Why did my futon move to the middle?! I-is there a g-GHOST?! DON’T TELL ME IT’S THAT MONSTER HAG—)
Tanjirou is so accustomed to Zenitsu sleeping in his arms futon that he doesn’t sleep well when Zenitsu is away.
For the first time in his life, Tanjirou wakes up grumpy that day, his grumpiness even lasts for a whole day, despite he himself not knowing why. People can sense something is a little… off with him, when asked, he only sighs and shrugs with a smile that doesn’t reach his eyes.
Paying close attention to each other/Food (?) :
Zenitsu listens to Tanjirou attentively, even when he doesn’t look like it.
Sometimes, Tanjirou talks about his siblings and his parents as he braids Nezuko’s hair and thinks nothing much about it, but Zenitsu is genuinely interested in hearing more about them, even offering his comments such as, Hanako and Shigeru sound so adorable, Oh! Rokuta liked unagi? Me too! etc.
It’s gotten until the point that Zenitsu goes, I bet Takeo scolded them or And? Shigeru and Hanako followed you, right? Zenitsu then proceeds to guess things about them correctly; Tanjirou feels as if Zenitsu has known his siblings as much as he does.
One time Tanjirou mentions that tara no me is his favorite food. Some day when Inosuke tries to steal his tara no me tempura, Zenitsu vehemently does his best to stop him. (“That’s his favorite food, you inconsiderate pig!” Zenitsu says as he slaps Inosuke’s hand away. “Here have mine instead.”)
Tanjirou is genuinely touched. He knows he only said it off-handedly and didn’t expect anyone to remember it. From then on, Tanjirou promises himself to pay more attention to what Zenitsu says and do.
(He notices Zenitsu’s eyes lit up whenever he’s munching on dango, wagashi, daifuku, or any sweets, really—Tanjirou often insists on dropping by a confectionery shop after their missions together.) It’s a date.
((He also notices Zenitsu’s faraway gaze when seeing parents holding their child’s hand—Tanjirou stays a little closer and treats him more gently on those times.))
Jealousy:
Zenitsu talks to Nezuko often, it’s pretty much old news really, and Tanjirou is glad that Nezuko has a friend to talk to other than himself, who is her own brother. Though he wonders why his chest feels tight as they smile, Nezuko clutching the flowers that Zenitsu picked and nodding enthusiastically when Zenitsu tells her something with a tender gaze and soft expression Tanjirou rarely sees.
(In actuality, Zenitsu is talking about Tanjirou and how lucky Nezuko is for having such a kind brother. “He’s too kind, always cheering for me,” he smiles, a hand clasps to his chest as his eyes fall shut. “Me, you know? And he‘s often patient with me, and gentle. Although sometimes he’ll snap too, he never gives up on me.”)
Because of his kindness and willingness to help others, Tanjirou is popular among the demon hunters. There’s nobody who doesn’t know him. People greet and often seek him out, trying to squeeze their time to talk to him. At those times, Zenitsu’s mouth and body go auto-pilot and asks, “Who are they, Tanjirou?” while clinging to him and/or sticks close to him.
He’s just looking out for his friend, he’s curious about Tanjirou’s other friends too, okay?! He’s not jealous. Maybe envies Tanjirou a little. But jealous? Absolutely not. He is 100% jealous.
Nightmares:
They both have their fair share of nightmares.
When he’s young, Tanjirou didn’t get many of them but it becomes so frequent ever since his family died and one of his sisters remains because she’s turned into a demon. Rather than dream it’s a memory, a painful one. A memory about that night in which the scent of blood was strangling him, in which he dug graves for his family with his own hands and buried them in their front yard.
He often jolts awake from the nightmares, breathing heavily and tears staining his face and pillow. Quivering as he’s aware of the cold sweat all over him and soaking his yukata regardless of the warmth of the futon, and Zenitsu whose hands grasps him so tightly in his embrace. Being an anchor that grounds him.
Zenitsu is always awake whenever it happens. In a soft voice that makes Tanjirou’s swallow back his cry, he asks Tanjirou if he would like to talk about it and assure him it’s okay if he doesn’t.
Sometimes, through trembling voice, he tells Zenitsu every little detail about how gruesome and painful it is to watch the lives of his whole family draining before his very eyes. Other times Tanjirou can’t even manage to nod or shake his head, let alone answer him. At those time, Tanjirou holds Zenitsu tight and pushes himself to focus on the song Zenitsu is humming while his hand draws a comforting pattern on Tanjirou’s sweat-soaked yukata.
Zenitsu, despite being typically so loud, wakes up from a nightmare quietly. There’s a benefit to his keen sense of hearing and his general wakefulness when asleep, he supposed. During the time he lived with Shihan, he’s trained himself to suppress his cry at night, not wishing to bother the old man who has kindly paid his debt and took him in. It isn’t a big deal compared to what Tanjirou has; mostly vague voices of people who had left him and call him things he already tells himself when he wails and cowers. Something he hears often when he’s alone.
At times, all he needs is to stay close to Tanjirou’s heartbeat, let the steady thumps of his heart drown out the voices and lull him back to sleep.
Other times, when even Tanjirou’s sound can’t quell the voices, he slips out of Tanjirou’s arms and the futon to sit on the veranda, letting the buzz of the crickets fills his ears.
But in those other times, Tanjirou always manages to find his way to him. Draping his checkered haori over their shoulders, he sits next to Zenitsu and grasps his hand in his calloused one. Each time he asks if he wants to tell him about his nightmares Zenitsu would always answer with, “It’s nothing, Tanjirou,” he smiles sheepishly. “Sorry for waking you up, you don’t need to worry about me.”
Honestly, it stings that he can’t help what keeps plaguing Zenitsu. And that Zenitsu shuts him out. But Tanjirou can only offer comfort and trusts that he’ll come to him on his own pace.
When Zenitsu finally does, he can feel the anger crackling like embers in his chest, to those who abandoned him, to those who badmouth Zenitsu, to the demons swarming in Zenitsu’s head. Something that Tanjirou cannot cut down with his nichirin blade.
Though, Tanjirou resorts to whispering him assurance and gives him the affection he deserves, pressing kisses to his forehead, down his temple, his nose, cheeks, and the corner of his mouth.
Other fluffy things that reduce me into a weeping mess:
Tanjirou’s flirting method is actually sincere compliments that make him sound very smooth. He says you look beautiful to Zenitsu as easy as he breathes, he says Zenitsu is kind and strong on many, many occasions and does it as effortless as he smiles.
Zenitsu is very, very weak. He says this often. But one that he considers as his number one weakness is when Tanjirou threads his hair with his hand, his rough fingertips brushing against his ear and thumb on his earlobe. Zenitsu cannot even manage a shriek for his voice is stuck in his head as Tanjirou gazes at him with so much warmth that makes him feel like his face is going to implode from how red it is.
He almost passes out each time this happens. (Curse, Tanjirou! Curse him for being a smooth bastard despite his naivety!)
Cold seasons like autumn and winter are the seasons Zenitsu liked the least, he sniffles while whining to Tanjirou, shivering as he hugs his own body. Sighing, Tanjirou unravels the blue scarf around his neck and wraps it around Zenitsu’s.
It’s… it’s just a scarf—his scarf, but blue looks so pretty on Zenitsu. As he thanks Tanjirou with his little grin, the breeze rustles the yellow ginko tree overhead and Zenitsu’s hair, and Tanjirou is left breathless.
Tanjirou can’t really lie, rather he’s really terrible at it. When he thinks Zenitsu is being gross or he’s being obnoxious, he tells him so with the intention that Zenitsu should stop whatever he is doing, and the clarity and steadiness of his heartbeat express the trueness of his words. But what confuses Zenitsu to no end is how he said it with a fond look??? Which nullifies the effect? And confuses Zenitsu to no end??
