I'm curious to see how Iain chooses to 'fix' Emmerdale. He definitely had his faults, but when compared to what they've had the last 3+ years this is not terrible news. He did know how to build a story, I didn't always like the story, and the ending didn't always land, but he knew how to build one.

He also knew you don't make C characters the focal point of the show. Something these producers do all the time.

It definitely won't be easy to undo all their bullshit, but I'm curious to see what he axes story wise.

Also he did love to use Robert/Ryan so.........

I think everyone's feelings are valid on everything. But, I really want to say that soap operas are not the place to go to find satisfying writing. Sometimes the writing is good, sometimes it'll be great, but most of the time it leaves you wanting. It's sort of the nature of the beast. It's really hard to write for something 260 days of the year and be able to really have the quality that you want because you have to churn out so much.

I'm going to be really honest as someone who's watched soap operas their entire life and has watched both US and UK soap operas, and has some first-hand knowledge on the BTS of US soaps, UK soaps are infinitely better written than US soaps any day of the week. The production values are insanely better in the UK. And it seems like the people who create the UK soaps actually care way more about how the audience feels and wants then I saw in US soaps.

And I think that's why, while I understand everyone's very valid criticisms about all the UK soaps that we watch, I always feel that they do such an amazing job. It's because the comparison between the two very different types of soaps - UK and US - and having been exposed to the US ones first - makes me much less critical of the ones that I watch now.

But hear me when I say to you that all the things that you want are valid and I wish that there was some way that everyone could get everything they wanted from their soaps. ❤️❤️❤️

Be Mine Superstar - Finished up the last four episodes just to get it off my list and was pleasantly surprised how good the ending was.

Beyond Evil - Rewatching because it's amazing and fits this time of year (Happiness is also on that list).

Emmerdale - Rewatched the beginning of Aaron and Robert's storyline in 2015. Robert really was the worst back then (did Aaron ever find out about the assassin Robert hired??). Aaron was so in love so fast and sick over it. My favorite tag, "the angst it is delicious" sums them up so well.

My Journey To You - Still slowly working my way through the last episodes and am currently paused on episode 19's fantastically horrifying revelation.

Ranking Every Adaption of The Thing / coldcrashpictures video essay - With a few exceptions, I can't deal with horror (I don't like being frightened and cannot handle a lot of jump scares or gory visuals). I'm a movie fan though, and there's a lot of really interesting stuff in the genre that I like to learn about. It's even better when the writer clearly loves the work they're discussing, like this essay. It's about an hour and well worth a watch/listen.

Taikan Yoho (My Personal Weatherman) - The last episode was everything I was hoping for. Communication, some sexy times, and more communication. Yoh and Segasaki are joining the ranks of couples that I wish we could see more of as their relationship develops and matures over time. I love them.

So I know I'm biased but I just have to say that the Mill in current day Emmerdale looks really cold and lifeless when compared to how much of a home it felt like when Robron and Liv were living there. Like it looks almost like an upscale doctors office now or something. It just breaks my heart that not one of them is even still living in that flat. I'm glad Aaron is still living in part of the Mill but after all the work and money they put into the place (Rob especially) I wish he still owned it and was living in what to me will always be Robron's home.

Facts at this point:

Ryan is coming back as Robert and Mackenzie is the new Adam (straight best friend who's directly related to Moira) or (the hugest or) Mackenzie isn't as straight as he thinks. There's not a third way around what "Emmerdale" has currently been doing where Aaron is considered. I would prefer the prior as the latter would just be an unoriginal retelling.

What if Robert bought into the bnb. Maybe he got compensation for wrongful imprisonment. He could force Bob out, involving some kind of convoluted revenge on Wendy, and then be partners with Nicola and Jimmy, putting the band back together - yay.

And then he'd deal with angry Aaron, d**king sessions in the guest rooms until he mellows.

They keep mentioning Adam - do you think now Adam T is back acting on Waterloo Rd that he’ll eventually return to the dales?

I don't know that we can use the old methods with these producers for foretelling what's going to happen. Let's not forget the whole "will Robert get out of prison" debacle or the current Jamie story that's going on when I'm fairly sure that Alexander Lincoln is not coming back.

I would guess the Adam mentions are just that and just to allow Vic to someday maybe marry David...or someone else if it comes to it.

But never say never I suppose.

i know you're a fan of emmerdale (european soap opera i believe?? i know nothing about it aside from your posts i'm sorry lol) and also 911 lone star. i realize there is probably absolutely nooooo way this would ever make sense but...

my question to you is if there was a cross-over episode (ignoring all network, travel, etc logistics), you can include any current or previous characters on either show, how would you write a crossover between the shows?

Emmerdale is a british soap opera yeah - it's mostly trash but at this point it's a habit lol

I think Robert and Aaron (I'm sure you've seen them in my posts) taking a trip to Austin as a third (!!) honeymoon would be fun. They're both kind of accident prone so they'd run into TNT sooner or later. They've both also kind of got a criminal streak - and a tendency to get caught so Carlos arresting them isn't out of the question either.

I mean this is them saying goodbye before Aaron (right) goes to prison... and it wasn't the first time. And canonically Robert is serving 14 years for murder right now. (because the blond demon playing him left the show)

But somehow the 126 or tarlos and Owen ending up in Emmerdale would be insanely fun. it's this tiny village in the north east of england and all kinds of crazy shit happens there (soaps are gonna soap). I feel carlos would want to take it easy and enjoy the countryside - and maybe swap recipes with Suni who works as a chef at the local outdoor pursuits centre. Maybe a quiet drink in the pub with him and his boyfriend Nicky too. TK would immediately befriend ALL animals. He'd be living his best life with farms nearby AND a veterinary clinic in the village. He'd try to take home at least one sheep a day. Or maybe a chicken or something else 'small'. I think Owen would get himself into all kinds of situations™. He'd be smack in the middle of all the soapy shit and probably get accused of having an affair with someone sooner or later. And i think he'd become the salon's new best customer. he'd let Mandy try every possible skin care treatment on him and get free samples of every new lotion she'd have. He'd be living his best life - dressed in panther print because his new bff also styled him.
