Angst Tip 2: Dealing With a Loss (The 5 Stages of Grief)
When writing a loss, it is very important to know how to do it right, because they are a great prompt for angst! A poorly-written one won't have the intended effect, and the audience won't feel the emotion nor impact of the event. And as brutal as it is to say this, when writing depressing scenes, the ultimate goal is to make your reader cry.
So, in this post, I'll explain the 5 stages of grief and the foundation for a character going through a loss! Note that this does not always have to apply to one's death; this could mean one losing their job, or getting a terminal illness. Furthermore, these are not necessarily my personal tips, but mine do fall into certain places of the stages! Lastly, I'm not a professional on this topic, and this is not for psychology, but I did research on this!
First stage: Denial. The shock that comes with losing something can have a great impact on a character. Following that is typically denial. Their reluctance to accept reality often has the character living in their own delusion; where they never actually lost anything in the first place, and that it'll be fixable. Normally, their wake-up call comes from another person, or just a sudden realization.
Second stage: Anger. Anger comes in different forms for different individuals, but in the end, the emotion is still somewhere present. Depending on the situation, the anger could be directed towards other people, the one they lost (if said person made a bad mistake that was the reason for their demise), and/or themselves. Self-blame often comes last, and is the transition for the second and third stage!
Third stage: Bargaining. This stage consists of the character slowly, but not fully, accepting the loss. Now, they're not only aware of what happened, but are also aware of how they could've avoided it. During this time, their mind is often flooded with hypothetical "ifs," and how it could've prevented the event from happening. Self-blame and over-examining their mistakes are the key here.
Fourth stage: Depression. As realization sinks in, so does the mourning and grieving of the cycle. By now, the character should be fully aware of what happened, and that it is hardly fixable. Because of this, they normally fall into some sort of depression. It will look different for different characters--some might feel miserable, some might feel numb--but in the end, it's still their form of grief.
Fifth stage: Acceptance. Lastly, the fifth stage is acceptance. This doesn't always mean that they've moved on, it simply means that the character has come with terms with what happened. More often than not, the event will still have a lasting impact on your character. It can be positive, negative, or both. Either way, some sort of change should be present.
There you have it! The 5 stages of grief: Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance! Each stage should now be clear, and if you were ever struggling to create a realistically sad death or event, this should be of some help! Now, tell me, do you think that there's 5 stages of grief, or 7?

things people do after having a nightmare that isn’t crying
struggle to catch their breath
grab onto whatever’s close enough to ground themselves in reality
become nauseous / vomit
shake uncontrollably
sweat buckets
get a headache
things people do to combat having nightmares if they occur commonly
sleep near other people so they can hear the idle sounds of them completing tasks
move to a different sleeping spot than where they had the nightmare
leave tvs / radios / phones on with noise
just not sleep (if you want to go the insomnia route)
sleep during the day in bright rooms
things people with insomnia do
first, obviously, their ability to remember things and their coordination will go out the window
its likely they’ll become irritable or overly emotional
their body will start to ache, shake, and weaken
hallucinate if it’s been long enough
it becomes incredibly easy for them to get sick (and they probably will)
add your own in reblogs/comments!

How to write angst ?
@urfriendlywriter | req by @everynowandthenihaveacrisis @aidyaiden :)
know your character. from their deepest fears to what they cherish the most. know your deepest fear, ask yourself how you will react and feel at that moment. "oh shit, if this happened to me I'll lose my mind" what's that type of scenario for you? write it. :)
decide on the type of angst you are going for!
major, minor, physical, emotional, paranormal, spiritual, verbal, abusive, quarrel, misunderstanding, etc.
and then, decide on--what reaction you can take out of your character by doing what to them.
are they gonna be, held at a gunpoint to give something up? or have their soul wrecked by whom they thought were close to them? or is it going be horror, or etctec, decide on it.
moving on to actually writing it-
Tip 1 - Use sensory details.
her eyes brimmed with tears
his chest heaved
pain clawed at his heart, as his face twisted with hurt
his scream pierced my heart
her lips quivered
she dug her nails into her palms (to distract herself, to stop it from shaking, etc)
show what is happening to ur MC, instead of telling it.
Tip 2 - how to actually write it.
If they're panicking, make them notice too many things at once, show every detail that they're seeing, feeling, from touch, to that burning sensation on their eyes, the blood on the ground, that dryness of their throat, the buzzing in their head and their parted lips unable to trust their own sight, and--and, boom! have them register that they're really really in trouble. and that they've to act fast.
use short, very minimal type of writing for this. make it long, but not long enough that it feels like it's being dragged.
the readers should hold themselves back from skimming the page out of curiousity, they should be in their toes to find out what happens next.
what does your MC do in times of panic? do they chant calm down to themselves, do they get angry, or start crying.. or?? what makes your character genuinely feel an emotion so hard that they'll burst?
there's always something, someone that'll always give them love and easily can be that something or someone to take it away. yk.
Tip 3 - crying.
what is close to your character that u can deprive them of? will it make them cry? beg for it?
what will make ur character cry so hard, that their scream fills everyone's ear, stays in their minds like ghosts and always haunts them?
make a character who never cries, burst out with tears.
while writing crying, focus on the 5 senses, one after the other.
focus it on their breath, make them run out of breath, gasp for air, feel like they're being choked, cry so scrutinizingly. it shud punch the reader's gut.
have them replay what had just happened over and over again in their head
best books and writing styles (for angst) to analyse and learn from (in my opinion);
3rd book in the AGGTM series (yk it hit hard like a truck. it got me depressed in bed the entire time lmao)
Five Survive by Holly Jackson. The moments of red outside of the truck, and moments leading to it.
there's this book called " Warm by @untalentedwriter127 " in wattpad. the author served angst for breakfast, lunch anddd dinner.
and if there's more angsty ones, drop em in the comments! :)
Hope this helps, tag me when yall write a masterpiece! ;)

-:“Can we please just talk?” Post argument make-up talk prompts:-
(You know who needs this? YOU KNOW WHO NEEDS THIS?! AZIRAPHALE AND CROWLEY! *sobs*)
By @me-writes-prompts
"Look, I'm really sorry for shouting at you. I just...I just lost control. But it wasn't your fault, it was me. Please forgive me?"
"We really shouldn't have fought over a piece of dumpling, don't you think so?" "Yeah, that was rather a vague topic to argue over." (Vmin, anyone?)
"I'm really sorry, I wasn't in the right mind and vent it out on you."
"Are you still mad at me? I mean, it's okay if you are. I'm mad at myself, too."
"Can we talk?" "Yeah, yeah. Let's do that."
"I didn't mean to say you're not enough, okay? Because you are, but I am not. I am not enough to appreciate a person like you."
"I really wasn't thinking straight, now was I? I'm sorry. You shouldn't have to put up with my shit. I'll be better for you."
"Are you calm now?" "Yeah, sorry. Needed to take a time out."
Kissing as apologizing but then also expressing it in words.
Angry cuddles, because they are cold. Definitely not because they want the warmth their partner provides.
"That was a really silly argument we had last night, right?" “Hmm, yet we couldn’t stop the topic.” They try to joke.

Dark writing prompts
Some dark writing prompts for the cold winter days :) Number five is my favorite. I wrote a short story about it once. Which one is your favorite?
In a world where emotions are harvested as a powerful energy source, a secret society emerges, exploiting the pain and suffering of individuals to fuel their dark ambitions.
A mysterious antique mirror appears in an old, abandoned house. Anyone who gazes into it experiences glimpses of their worst fears coming to life. What happens when the mirror falls into the wrong hands?
In a dystopian future, a government experiment to control crime goes horribly wrong. Citizens start experiencing their darkest impulses as physical manifestations, leading to chaos and destruction.
A cursed town is shrouded in perpetual darkness, and every year, a single resident must willingly sacrifice themselves to lift the curse for a brief moment. This year, the chosen one has a secret that could change everything.
A talented artist discovers that their paintings have the power to alter reality. However, with each stroke of the brush, a piece of their soul is consumed, leaving them on the brink of madness.
A small community is plagued by a series of unexplainable events, each linked to a children's nursery rhyme. As the rhyme predicts the next tragedy, the townsfolk desperately try to break the curse before it claims them all.
A scientist creates a device that allows people to relive their happiest memories. However, as they delve deeper into the technology, they uncover a hidden layer of forgotten, traumatic experiences that could shatter lives.
In a post-apocalyptic world, survivors discover an underground bunker containing a mysterious machine that claims to offer a chance at resurrection. However, the price to bring someone back is the sacrifice of another life.
A cursed book is said to grant its reader unimaginable knowledge, but at the cost of their sanity. As a desperate scholar seeks its pages, they must confront the malevolent entity within that hungers for their mind.
A detective investigates a series of gruesome murders that seem to be connected by a chilling pattern. As they get closer to the truth, they realize the killer might be something otherworldly, feeding on the fear they instill in their victims.

Rin
He loses his mind, asking you a hundred times if you're sure about it, over and over again.
But once you reassure him, you're done for; he seizes every chance to take a bite out of you he can.
There's something about the way your blood tastes that sends his undead body boiling.
Oh, and he's a sucker for bloody kisses, the taste of your lips on his while your blood still lingers on the tip of his tongue, it turns him on like nothing else could.
And don’t even get him started on you guys are having sex he loves to feel you ride him while his fang are deep in your neck
You gasped out slowly, "Rin no more, pls I can’t take anyone ." As tears streamed down your eyes, and you couldn't grasp how long you'd been at it or how much blood you'd lost. All you knew was that weren’t leaving this room anytime soon."Come on, princess, be good for me, just one taste, please," he pleaded, not giving you any time to reply before sinking his teeth deep into your skin, watching as the blood rained down your neck."Fuck you taste so delicious and you feel even better," he groans as he rolls his hips, attempting to force yet another sweet orgasm from your already flowing cunt. He eventually lets go of your neck, but not before licking a long hot lap across your neck and pulling you into a deep kiss. It felt good, and the irony only added to your excitement as Rin began to thrust deeply into you. "Come on now princess, let me treat you real good for giving me such a great meal."
Sae
He's nothing like his brother; when you mention he could bite you, he's all in, almost immediately.
You even had to set a limit on how many times a day he could drink from you, fearing he'd drain you dry.
But oh, the teasing—he adores it, especially when he hears that little moan escape your lips. And after how wet you get just for his fangs
He LOVES going down on you and nibbling on your thighs; the taste of your blood and slick combined makes his head spin.
He's a HUGE aftercare guy, coming back with bandages, snacks, the whole shebang.
"Come on, slut, you can do better than that," he says into your already swollen cunt, sliding his tongue across your sloppy folds. You tried to pull away, but he pushed you hard into the mattress, keeping you in place so he could plunge his fingers deep within you and curl them in just the right position. "Fuck look at pet look at you getting our sheets dirty for me" he says as he begins to rub himself through his clothes. "Don't you think I deserve a reward, pet?" he asked as he itch the tip of your sweet spot, forcing you to melt in his hands and moan loudly. That must have been his answer because soon enough he’s licking long hot strips across your thigh before sinking his fang deep into your skin licking up all the blood that trickles down making sure not to waste a drop.“ You’re so addictive pet, but I think it’s time to give you what you want, ” he said as he wiped the blood off his face and licked it off his fingers. “I’m going to have to cancel my schedule cause we’re not leaving this room until you covered in my bite marks.”
Kunigami (Wild Card)
• Right then and there, he takes you up on that offer, no matter where you are.
• Throughout the entire encounter, he's a big bully, teasing and touching you, yet not allowing you to reciprocate.
• He revels in seeing you in that vulnerable state when he drinks your blood, something about your clinging to him that ignites him.
• His possessiveness leads him to bite you in places where there's no way to hide the marks.
• Despite his bullying nature and slight transformation, he still retains the same caring demeanor, as evidenced by your favorite food waiting on the table the next day with a note that reads, "Make sure to rest well today, doll."
"Didn't I tell you not to touch doll face?" he says, slapping your ass hard. "Only good girls get what they want," he says, and you whimper an apology before turning your face away so he doesn't see the fire burning your cheeks. But it doesn't last long as Kuni slides his hands up your skirt and rubs tight circles on your clit, feeling how wonderful and puffy you can become with just a few touches."You really are a dirty slut doll face is that why you covered up your bite mark cause you didn't want the world to know what a dirty girl you really were huh” he says as he peels the bandages off your neck, revealing all the bite marks you worked so hard to hide. "I worked so hard to paint this pretty neck like my canvas, and you cover it up," he says as he wraps his hands around your throat, hooking your panties to the side and sliding to figure in rolling them until you buck into him. In that instant, he sinks his fangs deep into your collar bone. "Guess I'll just have to cover all of you in my bite marks so you can't hide them again."
Nagi
Is lazy he just waves it off when you tell him and goes back to his video game
• However, should he catch you talking to another guy, especially another vampire, his demeanor takes a different turn.
• He's typically gentle about things, so don't expect too much until he's angered.
• When he does get upset, he becomes more animalistic, perhaps even draining you completely.
• Yet, he always apologizes the next day, showering you with the princess treatment, whether it's playing his game together or enjoying a nap side by side.
"Who the hell was that love?" Nagi asks, his eyes shining a venomous glow. You don't say anything because you know it will only add fuel to the fire, and that's how you end up locked in a mating press as Nagi buries his cock deep inside you kiss up to your cervix and his fangs even deeper into your skin drain you of what little you have. You couldn't tell if you were seeing stars because he pulled so many orgasms out of you or because of the blood loss."You’re mine, mine, mine," he says as he pushes your leg deeper into your chest and does a long lap across your leg before biting you and watching the blood trail down your leg. "You're mine, and I'm going to make sure everyone knows it, even if I have to bite and knock you up to do so."

Angst Tip 1: Dealing With it Differently
Sometimes, the angst isn't the actual event taking place, but how the characters react to it! Different characters deal with pain differently, and while these tips may seem like it's really just common knowledge, I hope that they'll be able to help you guide your characters emotions as they ride through the tough rollercoasters of angst!
And just a heads up, I won't be addressing the self-inflicting or self-hatred kind of pain. I'm going to be talking about how a character might deal with losing someone dear to them. Regardless of the prompt, it requires at least two people. For the overall basics, I'll give you some advice on how different types of people tend to react during grief or sorrowful moments!
Starting with the typical 'I'm-pretty-content-with-life' character, note that this persona might differ from a very childish and teasing one. (I'll get to that later.) For a person that has a normal and healthy personality/mental stability, they're usually happy and able to feel emotions perfectly fine. If they lose a loved one, they are likely to spiral into an instinctual rage because the person meant that much to them. They will plausibly seek revenge right off the bat and then fall into grief.
On the contrary, however, with a persona that's cold and more apathetic, their reaction may differ just a bit. With this kind of character, someone important to them is really really valuable because they tend to not open up to anyone. There are several outcomes if they lose that person. Sometimes, though, the aftereffects blend together, and that's perfectly fine. For starters, like the character above, they may seek revenge, but their actions are prone to be more rational and calculated. Next, their grief will look different. Instead of the usual sobbing and mourning, a cold character will just feel numbness washing over them. Lastly, assuming that the important character helped change the emotionless one for the good, the latter might fall back into his old ways without the other. For example, if the change involves being most open with people, then they may unintentionally return to their previous state of being wary and closed with others.
Now, we're on the one I mentioned in the first paragraph! An incredibly happy-go-lucky character with a childish attitude and teasing manner! In all honesty, this reaction will vary depending on how you build this character; if you add depth or not. Personally, I prefer to add some to create complexity and such, but, if your character is fully open about everything and has nothing to hide, then their reaction will be rather similar to the 'I'm-pretty-content-with-life' one. Revenge could be out of the question, but their grief should be roughly the same. With more complexity, however, their reaction will alter drastically. If their exterior isn't an exact reflection of their inner thoughts, they don't show everything, they hide things from others, or something of such, then the next few tips apply to you! These kinds of characters can react pretty unexpectedly. For example, it is fully possible for them to enter a state of unrecognizable coldness, much like the reactions I mentioned in the second paragraph. This could be because they lost not only someone precious to them, but because they lost a purpose. Happy-go-lucky characters are arguably, reliant on others. They enjoy having responses to their antics. Without someone to laugh and make jokes with them, they may struggle to see why they should keep it up, especially if it isn't their true personality. And of course, there's the possibility that you all were waiting for: the mental breakdown! Most of you all will be like, "What? For this character type? Really?" My answer to that is yes, but there are a couple of factors that need to be taken into consideration when executing the reaction.
If a character is struggling but puts on a face for others, a breakdown isn't as unlikely as some think. They're already teetering on the edge of mental stability and a gust of wind could push them over. With that, when someone important to them is able to see through the facade and reach out to help, losing the said person will result in a complete breakdown and a strong sense of misery.
Okay! So here are the different types of grief that fit different characters. I'm aware I only did three of them, but I tried my best to detail each one as best as I could to provide clarity and chose some of the more common character types. If you want to ask about another type of character, feel free to ask! I hope that this was able to help or at least clear up a few things, thank you for checking this out!
Happy writing~

Some of my favorite words and phrases to describe a character in pain
coiling (up in a ball, in on themselves, against something, etc)
panting (there’s a slew of adjectives you can put after this, my favorites are shakily, weakly, etc)
keeling over (synonyms are words like collapsing, which is equally as good but overused in media)
trembling/shivering (additional adjectives could be violently, uncontrollably, etc)
sobbing (weeping is a synonym but i’ve never liked that word. also love using sob by itself, as a noun, like “he let out a quiet sob”)
whimpering (love hitting the wips with this word when a character is weak, especially when the pain is subsiding. also love using it for nightmares/attacks and things like that)
clinging (to someone or something, maybe even to themselves or their own clothes)
writhing/thrashing (maybe someone’s holding them down, or maybe they’re in bed alone)
crying (not actual tears. cry as in a shrill, sudden shout)
dazed (usually after the pain has subsided, or when adrenaline is still flowing)
wincing (probably overused but i love this word. synonym could be grimacing)
doubling-over (kinda close to keeling over but they don’t actually hit the ground, just kinda fold in on themselves)
heaving (i like to use it for describing the way someone’s breathing, ex. “heaving breaths” but can also be used for the nasty stuff like dry heaving or vomiting)
gasping/sucking/drawing in a breath (or any other words and phrases that mean a sharp intake of breath, that shite is gold)
murmuring/muttering/whispering (or other quiet forms of speaking after enduring intense pain)
hiccuping/spluttering/sniffling (words that generally imply crying without saying crying. the word crying is used so much it kinda loses its appeal, that’s why i like to mix other words like these in)
stuttering (or other general terms that show an impaired ability to speak — when someone’s in intense pain, it gets hard to talk)
staggering/stumbling (there is a difference between pain that makes you not want to stand, and pain that makes it impossible to stand. explore that!)
recoiling/shrinking away (from either the threat or someone trying to help)
pleading/begging (again, to the threat, someone trying to help, or just begging the pain to stop)
Feel free to add your favorites or most used in the comments/reblogs!
