🗡 How members of The Fellowship react when reader is cold 🗡
Tumblr media
Included Characters: Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas, Gimli, Frodo, Merry, Pippin, Gandalf, Sam.
A/N: I haven’t really written some of these characters before so if it’s horrible for my first go at them please forgive me! <33
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aragorn had just finished tending the fire and was looking around the group, making sure everybody was accounted for. His gaze swept over you briefly but returned a moment later, sensing something was a little bit off. He almost immediately realised that you were feeling the chill in the air a little more keenly than others and he immediately crossed the ground towards you, shrugging off his cloak as he did so. Reaching you, Aragorn draped the garment around your shoulders and laid a gentle hand upon your shoulder. “Come.” His voice was gentle and his eyes were kind as he smiled at you. “Bring yourself a little closer to the fire. I would not want you to fall ill.”
Tumblr media
Boromir’s attention had been fixed upon Frodo for the past five minutes. From the corner of his eye, he could see the halfling staring into space. His attention was on the ring, Boromir knew it. It was heavy... and Boromir could almost hear it calling out to him. Why? He forced his gaze away when he heard Gimli’s voice breaking through his reverie. He turned his head and that was when he noticed you, and the obvious shiver that you were trying to hide from the rest of the Fellowship. He watched you for a minute or so, making no mention of it, before he finally rose to his feet. Boromir cleared his throat. “I think I shall gather some more kindling for the fire.” He said, deciding not to draw attention to the fact that you were obviously feeling the cold. You would have said something if you wanted it to be noticed - you were always trying to prove yourself, keep up with the rest of them, and he felt for you. Sometimes, despite his father’s sky-high praise and the impossible pedestal he put him up on, Boromir felt a similar sort of way. He stomped off to get the wood, making a mental note to sneak you an extra layer from his pack when he returned.
Tumblr media
Legolas had been looking around, keeping a close watch for any dangers that may come upon them. His ears and eyes were keener than those of his companions and he would sense it long before it struck. After a while, he let his gaze move across the others, most asleep by this point, but when his eyes landed on you, you were very obviously still awake. He watched you for a moment, taking in the way you’d curled yourself into a ball, tucking your thin cloak around you as much as you could, the pink tip of your nose an obvious sign of your discomfort. “My friend, are you cold?” Legolas had moved, closing the distance between the two of you, and draped an extra cloak over your body before you even had a chance to respond. He smiled kindly at you and moved to stoke the fire before sitting beside you. “Sleep. We have another long day ahead of us.”
Tumblr media
Frodo was tired. He was drained. Like something was dragging him down, down, down, trying to bury him under the ground beneath his feet. He did not think he would have been able to get this far without Sam and without you... no, he didn’t think it... he knew it for a fact. The thought of you both caused his attention to drift away from the ring around his neck, seeking the familiar faces of his best friends. When he found you, huddled beneath a tree at the edge of camp, he frowned. You were shivering. Standing, Frodo walked over to you and wordlessly sat down next to you. He wrapped his arm and his cloak around your shoulders, pulling you closer so you could share his warm garment and also his body heat. He sat with you, heads pressed together, until you no longer needed him.
Tumblr media
“I think they’re cold.” Pippin whispered, though not quite as quiet as he was probably attempting to be. Merry frowned at him, glancing over at where you were sitting and then turning back to his friend. “Well, go and ask them.” He nudged the other hobbit. “You ask them!” Pippin insisted, nudging Merry back. “You’re the one who--” Merry was mid-sentence when you cut him off, looking up from your spot with a look of near-amusement in your eyes despite the chill swimming through your very bones. “The two of you have all the subtlety of a cave troll, you know that?” A little abashed, the two hobbits shuffled in place for a few moments, fidgeting. Then they shared a look and both started moving. Merry dug around in his bag, pulling out a long extra cloak that he had stashed somewhere right at the bottom and Pippin ladled a large helping of hot soup into a bowl. They both brought the items to you and held them out. “Maybe you should move closer to the fire?” Merry suggested as you took the soup from Pippin with a little smile.
Tumblr media
“C’mon lass/lad.” Gimli urges gruffly when he notices that you’re practically shivering from the cold. He took a puff from his pipe and gestured to the flickering flames of the little fire that they had lit in the centre of tonight’s camp. “Shift yourself closer to the warmth of that fire, c’mon now.”
Tumblr media
Has been keeping a close eye on you so he could keep you safe and notices almost right away that you’ve become quieter as you tend with the chill that you’re feeling. Many of the others seem completely fine and it frustrates you but you don’t say a word, not wanting to be any trouble and not wanting to slow anybody down. Gandalf calls your name, bidding you join him at the front. “Come keep an old man company, would you?” You sidle up beside him and he wraps an arm around your shoulders, the large sleeve of his grey cape warming you somewhat all on its own. “Have a puff of this.” He says softly, offering you his pipe. “It will warm you from the inside.”
Tumblr media
Sam’s attentions were rather focused upon Frodo. He was concerned about him, he could see so clearly the strain he was feeling, the toll that the ring was taking on him. He wished there was more that he could do but he felt quite helpless. All he knew was that, no matter what, he would not leave him. He had fetched some more water for the rest of the journey and had padded back into the camp when he noticed you sitting with gritted teeth. “Beggin’ your pardon... but you can borrow this if you’d like.” He gestured to the thick looking blanket type thing he had pulled from deep within his pack. “You look like you’ll be needin’ it more than me tonight...” He paused for a moment. “Oh, and I can boil some water and get you a nice hot brew made up if you want?”

You’re in the Fellowship and the Hobbits have a crush on you...
a/n: lol there’s no explanation for this, just a cutesy idea that came to me. yes I know I’m still not finished with my Legolas story 😅 no warnings here, just fluff and chaos 💛 (the reader here is human/elf/dwarf/anything but a hobbit for extra fascination 😆) lemme know how you liked it! 😘
+ tagging @starlady66 as requested
Tumblr media
For starters let's just (re)establish one thing: being subtle and lowkey is not something any of them vibe with (except sometimes Frodo)
If you're an Elf, Sam would be infatuated with you beyond words. You would just be talking about something and he'd stare with the biggest heart eyes, and then blush furiously either when one of his friends point it out, or when you make eye contact with him - he'd be so red in the face
Oftentimes he would ask you lots of questions with genuine curiosity, and you would be more than happy to answer, whether it's about historical events, songs and stories, customs of your own race, your travels... Anything, and he wants to know it all
Whenever he cooks for the fellowship, you (after Frodo, of course) get the most delicious piece of whatever he made, you caught on it fairly quickly
Many times the Hobbits will talk about you (only the best, of course), but they would be unaware of how loud they're being, and you would hear so many adorable comments and try not to giggle
"Did you see how [y/n] fought off that orc?!"
Frodo would enjoy engaging with you in meaningful, deep conversations, and you think he's wonderful to talk to, yet the spark in his eyes gives him away. And sometimes he has a little smile on his face, no matter what you talk about, he just enjoys talking to you and having your full attention 🥺
wait hold up, Sam would give you random flowers he found along the way, or he would just show you and teach you about many different plants
Like I said, Frodo would be the most lowkey of all of them, but you picked up easily on his mannerisms and you can now read him like a book
You have a great knowledge of Middle-earth and he often wants to consult with you when trying to make a decision where to go next
You yourself are very protective of the four Hobbits and just have a soft spot for all of them, you like to ruffle their curly hair and sometimes tell them a legend or sing an ancient song as they go to sleep
They all love to stay close to you when you're walking over long distances, especially Frodo and Pippin
Firstly, they feel safe with you, secondly, they enjoy your company
You try to always reassure them in little ways
You always always always have a snack or a piece of candy in your pocket for any of them 🤫
You practice sword fighting with Frodo a lot, you're very concerned for his safety, of course
Sometimes that would make the other 3 just a tiny bit jealous, and then of course you'd have to do it with everyone
Gandalf had known you for a while and trusts you, therefore, all four Hobbits trust you completely
Merry is super loud and boisterous around you, shamelessly trying to get your attention, and then keep it for as long as possible
He likes to act all brave and tough when you get attacked by orcs, but more times than not you ended up saving him
Merry is definitely the boldest when it comes to openly complimenting you, and he's very dramatic about it also
In comparison to him, Sam can sometimes feel extra shy and inadequate, but you make sure to let him know you appreciate him and what he does and says
He's just as important!!!!
Sam would tell Frodo that he's crushing on you (not like it's hard to tell...) and when Frodo says he's having the same feelings, Sam immediately wants to back out but Frodo is like "you really think [y/n] would end up with either of us?"
Merry and Pippin enjoy telling you stories of their mischievous adventures so much, and they exaggerate stuff so much in order to make themselves seem cooler
You think they're unbelievably fun either way
So, Pippin is canonically the smallest and youngest and you have an EXTRA soft spot for him, and also he's the most painfully obvious about his crush
He's always sooo embarrassed when Gandalf is strict with him because you can also hear the wizard's reprimands of the young Hobbit
He blushes furiously and he gives you a sad baby look and you always reassure him that "accidents can happen to anyone" and "Gandalf can just be grumpy like that, it's not your fault"
More than once he instinctively hid behind you in a dangerous situation
Sometimes for safety he likes to hold the hem of your cloak and fiddle with it as you walk - helps him get his mind off of all the impending dangers
The other 3 Hobbits would relentlessly make fun of him for being so obvious but he doesn't care in the slightest
Many times when you were alone on the night watch, one of the Hobbits just happened to be unable to sleep and would keep you company instead
Once during the night watch Merry was hanging out with you and laughed so loudly at something you said that half of the fellowship woke up and wanted to strangle him
Especially in those late hours Frodo likes to confide in you and even talk about his dreams and visions that you try to interpret together
You teach Sam about the stars and constellations and phases of the moon
Almost every time Pippin joins you on the night watch, he ends up falling asleep like hugging you around your legs as you stand alert or something (i diagnose him with BABY)
He very much loves to give you cool rocks that he gathers on the way
If any of the Hobbits has an unpleasant dream that wakes them up, they come to you, you just have the calming protective energy (and candy in your pockets, when you think about that...)
If only one of them had a crush on you, it would be a lot to handle, let alone FOUR
But they're so cute that you just can't dismiss them or ignore them ever
And maybe all that lovely chaos is a good distraction from everything bad happening around you

yo I've never requested something from anyone before, so I hope I'm doing it right, but I would love a sam x reader with forehead touches and palm kisses (and if you wanna do the handhold thumb rub thing too that'd be cool) if you don't want to than that's totally fine.
2. Palm kisses
9. Forehead touches
And handholding but make it Special
You're doing fine with the request! Sam is so cute, he's definitely my favorite all-around LotR character (though it's very difficult to choose) and I just want to always put him in the best, brightest domestic little situations after everything he's been through.
also I totally was not inspired to write this because I'm home sick and also a baby
Warnings: Fever, sickness, not feeling hungry, Samwise Gamgee is Middle Earth's #1 Husband

Care - Samwise Gamgee x Reader
Sam moved the pot off the burner, ladling a small bowl full of his mum's soup as quietly as he could. You were probably still sleeping. But it had been hours—you needed to eat, if you could get anything down.
He crossed the creaking floorboards with as much grace as he could muster, setting the bowl on the sitting room table. You were laid out on the sofa, where you were more comfortable and he could keep an eye on you. He watched you for a moment before he woke you, frowning when your body was wracked with another shiver. He placed the back of his hand against your forehead, which woke you up.
"Fever?" You asked through half-lidded eyes and a dry mouth, as though your sweaty palms and aching body weren't answers enough for you.
"I am afraid you still have a fever, yes," your sweet hobbit answered sympathetically. "I'm not sure if it's gotten much better since this morning."
"I don't think so," you confirmed his hypothesis. Suddenly too warm, you removed your arms from beneath the blanket. Sam wasted no time in taking one of your hands in his own.
"You'll get better soon, dear, I promise," he said seriously, and whenever Sam promised something, you always believed it. He rubbed his thumb comfortingly over the back of your hand, and despite every nerve being rather uncomfortably aflame, it was quite soothing. He had that effect on you. "Are you hungry?"
You smiled weakly. That was yet another thing you loved about Samwise Gamgee—when in doubt, he always helped by cooking. "Not really," you admitted.
"Can you try to eat something, at least," he requested sweetly, and you knew you couldn't say no. "It might make you feel better," he offered, resting his other hand on your cheek. "It'll make me feel better," he admitted, and you chuckled, leaning into his touch.
"Mm, for you, I suppose I could try," you mused, turning slightly to press a light kiss to his palm. You then gasped. "Oh no!"
"What?" His brow furrowed.
"I'm going to get you sick! I just thought of that, you've been tending to me all day, and, oh, no, you're going to get sick now," you despaired.
"Don't worry about me, love," he reassured you. "That's what husbands do." He leaned forward, pressing his forehead to yours. "I'd get sick over and over again if it meant I could take care of you."

Hey there! I’d love to see a Samwise x Elf!reader insert. Something that is sweet and adorable, where she leaves her world behind to make a life with him in the Shire.
(yessss thank you for your request :D more fluff with Sam!!!
here's the link for the follow-up headcanons too)
I'm Going With You (Sam x female!elf!reader)
After the destruction of the ring, you had returned to your home in Rivendell, Sam in tow. You had, after all, promised to give him a thorough tour before he went back to the Shire, and he was more than happy to join you.
The two of you had become somewhat romantically involved along the journey. It was maybe not quite obvious to everyone else, but they could all certainly see the way you looked at each other. The few moments you had shared were private, and you were unsure whether Sam longed for anything more as you did. Either way, you feared that you may be parting ways with him sooner than you wished.
Sam found Rivendell to be eerily quiet now that so many of the elves had departed. It was the sense that the place itself had been abandoned, but what he feared more than anything was that you were also preparing to leave. He had seen you pack many of the remaining items you had, and had assumed that you would be joining your kin. These thoughts plagued his mind as you showed him around, but he tried to focus on memorizing every detail of you instead. The way your long hair draped over your shoulders, the way your dress elegantly hugged your figure, and the sparkle in your eyes, though that seemed dimmer than usual.
At sunset, the two of you sat beside one another and watched the horizon, hands gently clasped with one another's.
"Sam," you sighed, taking both his hands in yours, "I care so deeply for you, but I am beginning to fear that this chapter is coming to an end. With the changes it brings, I do not know where I will belong once the page has turned."
He smiled sadly. "I thought this too. I'd give anythin' for you to stay, Miss Y/n, but I know you'll want to join your kin sooner or later." He glanced down and sniffed. "And that's ok, Miss! As long as you're happy..."
You cupped his cheek, lifting his gaze to meet your eyes again. "Do you mean that? You truly wish for me to stay?"
"More than anythin', Miss Y/n. I could make a real nice life for us in the Shire, if you'd like, that is." He paused for a second. "But... but don't go thinkin' you have to give up your life for me."
A tear rolled down your cheek and you laughed softly. "Oh Sam, I'd give up everything for you in the blink of an eye." You pressed your forehead to his. "If you would have me, I'd love to make a life with you."
He grinned wider than you'd ever seen before and kissed you deeply. "I love you so much Miss..."
"I love you too Sam," you giggled, "but since we're starting a life together, I think maybe it'd be appropriate for you to just call me Y/n."
He smiled sheepishly and nodded. "Maybe you're right."
When you arrived in the Shire together a few months later, Sam realized that calling you Miss Y/n had never done you justice. Calling you his wife had a much better ring to it.

HELLO MY OLD HEART | SAM GAMGEE
Summary: When Sam tells you he's going to join Frodo to take the ring to Mount Doom, you have to get used to life with him far away. Based on Hello My Old Heart by The Oh Hellos.
Tumblr media
When Sam had told you that he will go along Frodo and Gandalf to help destroy the Ring, you had gotten into a big fight over it. You were afraid of receiving a word of Sam's death or his body being delivered for burial, but Sam was insistent to go with Frodo. You had tried to talk him out of it for an hour, but he wouldn't budge. You kind of understood why he wouldn't, but it still felt unfair how he was putting his life in danger over some stupid ring.
"Well, you go then," you had finally mumbled with tears in your eyes as you had opened the door for him, and Sam hadn't come by anymore. He had left, and every morning you woke up with a squeezing feeling in your chest thinking about whether or not you would ever see him again. If he was already dead. If Sauron's men had got him. If something else horrible had happened to him. And even though you knew he's a tough bone to break and on top of it, he had the greatest wizard with him for protection; it hurt either way.
You had gone back to your daily life, keeping Frodo's garden alive too even though nobody had asked you to. It just brought you comfort to see them doing well and you could picture Sam doing well too when the flowers bloomed. Maybe they had just dropped the Ring to Mount Doom, maybe they were on their way back on that moment. You tried to stay positive. You had to stay positive.
You wanted to be angry at Sam, for risking his life like that, but you also admired his courage for a cause like that. You knew it was selfish to be angry at him for that, but your worrying felt like it would kill you. Every night, you woke up to the littlest of sounds. Hoping Sam had come home, but he never had.
Your heart wanted him to come back home - to share your home with him for the rest of your lives. And despite everything, you knew that wherever Sam was on that moment, he was hoping to be home soon too.

As Cold as Ice (Sam Gamgee x F Hobbit! Reader)
Tumblr media
Description: The Fellowship has been stopped at Caradrahas, and you and the hobbits are beginning to feel the cold.
Warnings: gets angsty, reader momentarily contemplates death
a/n: Well, I did it! First one shot! Also, I should mention I like writing in a universe that's closer to the books than the movies, and I thought, where better for an angsty fic than that part where they're stuck in the blizzard and everyone is getting hypothermia? Leave a comment of some feedback if you will, it's like "writer motivation juice":)
~
“Caradhras was called the Cruel, and has an ill name,” said Gimli, “long years ago, when rumor of Sauron had not been heard in these lands.”
“It matters little who is the enemy, if we cannot beat off his attack,” said Gandalf.
“But what can we do?” cried Pippin. He was leaning on Merry and Frodo, and he was shivering.
“Either stop where we are, or go back,” said Gandalf. “It is no good going on. Only a little higher, if I remember rightly, this path leaves the cliff and runs into a wide shallow trough at the bottom of a long hard slope. We should have no shelter there from snow, or stones – or anything else.”
“And it is no good going back while the storm holds,” said Aragorn. “We have passed no place on the way up that offered more shelter than this cliff-wall we are under now.”
“Shelter!” muttered Sam. “If this is shelter, then one wall and no roof make a house.”
~ J. R. R. Tolkien
You wrapped your cloak about your shoulders as tightly as it would go, rubbing the coarse, worn threads against your shoulders in a vain attempt to get warmer. The snowstorm hadn’t let up at all since the Fellowship had slowed to wait out the storm, and you were beginning to feel the biting cold – really feel it, in a deep and scary way that was freezing the feeling right out of your body and making you feel all thick and heavy.
To your right, the other four hobbits were huddled in a cluster behind Bill the pony, trying to stay warm. Sam, angel that he was, was actively trying to warm his companions up, rubbing their shoulders and pulling blankets out of packs to wrap them in. You watched as he wrapped a blanket around Frodo’s shoulders, then practically squawked in alarm and pulled Pippin up from where he’d been trying to lay his head down in the snow – he was the tiniest of the five of you and hadn’t been bearing the frigid temperatures very well.
Even though there was no heat to be found anywhere, a tiny part of your core warmed watching Sam take such good care of his friends. You knew that, even in a hopeless situation like this one, he’d fight until the very last to protect everyone that he could. Me next, a tiny voice in the back of your mind whispered. Please come take care of me next.
A gust of wind blew snowflakes into your eyelashes, and you choked on a cough as the bitterly cold air hit the back of your throat. You knew Sam wouldn’t be coming to warm you – you explicitly told him not to. There’d only been room for four to shelter behind Bill, and you knew in your heart of hearts that the other four were far more important to the quest than you were. They hadn’t asked for you to sneak after them on this quest – it wasn’t their fault that you’d been snooping to see why Sam was moving to Crickhollow. They didn’t make you chase after them into the old forest when they suddenly left early one morning, or stalk them until you were all caught by the Barrow-Wight. They weren’t supposed to be saddled with you, and you weren’t going to be the one extra person who caused the downfall of the Fellowship.
Sam had been angry when he found you’d tagged along. The two of you had fought – he’d said things that made your heart ache, like “you weren’t supposed to be here,” “I never wanted you involved in something like this,” “can’t you just go home, Y/N?” Because you wanted to be there. You wanted to be there, heart, body, and soul, because he was there. You’d die before you let Samwise Gamgee run off on a dangerous quest that he might never return from without saying so much as goodbye to you. In fact, there was quite a bit more you’d like to say to him, but the two of you had barely said two words in passing to each other since that fight. Because then the Nazgul had come, and you’d had no choice but to continue on with Strider and the rest. They were stuck with you.
But you weren’t as important. You weren’t needed, and you could feel it. Which was why you were letting the other hobbits take the available shelter; “I’ll be fine keeping watch here,” you’d told Sam shortly. “Tend to the others. I’ll sit with Boromir and Legolas.”
Now, the cold was getting to you, and almost twice as fast as the others. You’d been sitting on Boromir’s right, and his tall figure provided some refuge from the gusts of snow that blew at you, but small piles of white were beginning to collect in the folds of your clothing, and your eyelashes were cold against your face when you blinked, which you were doing much more slowly and frequently as the cold threatened to take you into a never-ending sleep.
Perhaps this is how they’ll get me off their hands, you thought dejectedly. This cold will freeze me to the bone, but perhaps it’s better off that way.
Another part of your mind pushed back. You haven’t told him how you feel yet, it argued. You’ve got to live for the day that you can hold Samwise’s hands and tell him that you love him, live for a time when his arms will give you all the warmth you could ever need – a time past this when we can have time for love again.
You remembered his scathing comments, the ones that proved you weren’t wanted.
Perhaps life was just full of those sorts of disappointments, sorely and bitterly freezing, as cold as the end you were surely about to meet.
You closed your eyes, letting the cold numb away the last of the feelings you would ever have.
      “Y/N?”
      A voice.
“Y/N! Oh, she’s so cold...I never should have let her out of my sight.”
      It couldn’t be. Shouldn’t be.
“Please, someone, a blanket…anything! Get her warm. Bless you. Boromir. I’ll repay you somehow, swear. Hold on to me, Y/N. I’ve got you.”
You fastened yourself to the sound of Sam’s voice, and hauled on it as hard as you could to pull yourself back to the conscious world.
One eye opened, then the other. You gasped and shuddered as the cold came rushing back in an icy surge – the numbness was leaving, but at least you still had feeling in your extremities. As you came to, you noticed just the barest warm presence enveloping you, not unlike a blanket.
You half-expected to be met with snowflakes falling into your eyes, but none came. You were met with the image of a tall animal with four legs, shuffling its feet to keep warm.
“Bill?” You rasped, confused. Then you realized where you were – and how you were, more so.
It was Sam. Of course, it was Sam. He was holding you tightly in his arms, with the two of you seated so you were as close as possible; if you would have had any blood circulation to spare, you might have managed a blush. His warm chest pressed against your back, and a scrap of something soft was tucked around you – a scrap of Boromir’s cloak, you realized, cut rather jaggedly like it had been sliced with a sword.
“This will be the death of the halflings,” you heard Boromir say, but his voice was distant in your ears. You managed to tilt your head so you could look into Sam’s eyes.
I’m sorry for being such a burden, you wanted to say. I’m sorry that I’m here.
Instead, all you could stutter was, “S-s-so c-c-c-cold, hur-r-rts.”
Sam looked back at you, a startlingly fierce look in his eyes. “I know. I’m so sorry I let you go so far. But you’re going to get warm again, soon if I have any say in it. We’re going to be alright, Y/N.”
The sudden his change in his demeanor was unexpected, but you weren’t going to complain. You nestled closer, clutching the scrap of Boromir’s cloak in one hand and Sam’s arm in the other.
A rustle in the snow next to you – Legolas knelt down next to Sam, holding a bottle. “Miruvor,” he said softly. “Elven cordial – one small sip for each of us, but it holds the promise of fresh strength and warmth. There is enough to split between the five of you.” He handed the bottle to Sam with an encouraging look.
Sam held the bottle straight out to you. “You have mine, Y/N,” he said stoutly. “I haven’t felt the cold much, I’ll do alright without.”
It was tempting to take the liquor and down as much as you could – it was clear and sparkling in the bottle and smelled of warm spices. But you pressed it back into Sam’s hand, noting how his fingertips had an icy coolness to them. “There’s enough for each of us,” you echoed. “You first, Samwise.” You tightened your grip on his wrist, weak as it was, hoping to communicate that you hadn’t completely lost your strength.
Sam shook his head and uncorked the flask. “I’d never known anyone more stubborn before you, do you know that?”
You chuckled, just a little. “I’d s-say yes, but you’ve known your-r-self your whole life.”
He was convinced quickly – you guessed he was colder than he let on. After a tiny sip, it was your turn. The liquid hit your throat warmer than you’d expected, and you shivered at its sweetness and flavor. The miruvor had a vitality to it that you’d never gotten from any food before – part of the elven magic, you supposed.
Sam would have gone absolutely mad over this back when we were still naïve little Shirefolk, you thought sadly. Not just having been in the presence of elves, but traveling with them, and tasting their potions…only the circumstances absolutely ruin it.
You felt your strength returning, and an internal warmth tingled through your bones. Your limbs moved with less stiffness, and your eyelids didn’t feel so heavy – the cold was by no means blocked out, but the worst of it seemed to have come to pass.
You lifted your head and looked around. Gandalf seemed to have overcome his aversion to fire, for one had been lit and was crackling merrily under the shelter of the cliff. The other hobbits were huddled around it; Merry was practically pouring the last of the elf cordial down Pippin’s throat (the youngest hobbit looked to be in barely a better state than you were). Frodo was curled up next to Boromir, who was constantly prodding the hobbit to ensure he was awake.
It was at this point you realized you were still seated on Sam’s lap, and an uncomfortable number of conflicting feelings struck you with such ferocity that it seemed more prudent to avoid them altogether, You made to crawl off of Sam’s lap and join everyone at the fire, but a firm grip on your wrist held you back.
“Wait.” There was a different note in Sam’s voice, one that made you turn quickly. “I want to know why you did that just now. Why would you put yourself at risk like that, refusing shelter and tryin’ to go off on your own? You could have easily died. Matter of fact, you almost did.”
This was it. Here came the conflict again – why are you here, Y/N, ruining our grand adventure? Maybe if you just laid it all out on him, he’d leave you be.
You inhaled, then let all the words on your mind out in one breath so nothing could be held back. “I don’t belong here, Samwise Gamgee. You of all people should see that, since you’re the one who tells me so often. I know I’m a burden, and I hate that you hate that I’m here. This whole quest would be better off without me, alright? You, Frodo, Pippin, Merry – you’re the important ones. You need to survive, so I gave you the shelter. It doesn’t matter if I die here. In fact, it would probably help you all along. So there you have it. Happy? Now if you don’t mind, I do prefer being alive at this time, so I’m going to try and get some warmth.” The rant left a nasty taste in your mouth, like you’d spit something toxic.
      “It does matter.”
You didn’t want to hold your breath, to wait and see what followed, but you did anyway, because no matter what he had said, there was a reason you’d stole away from Crickhollow early that morning. There was a reason you’d chased Sam all the way through Middle Earth, up until now.
Sam took your hand in his. “It matters to me, Y/N. It matters because… because… well…” He stopped and looked away.
You were speechless. In all your time, Sam Gamgee was the poet. He always had pretty words to say. You’d never seen him at a loss for them.
When he turned back, that fiery look of resolution was back on his face. You almost didn’t have time to process it, because before you could blink, he was kissing you – a strong, passionate, romantic sort of kiss, one that would have had you weak at the knees if you weren’t already sitting on them. You once again found yourself frozen and unable to move, but this time it wasn’t cold or altogether unpleasant; in fact, a lovely, tingly sort of warmth was spreading through you. You summoned up all your willpower and threw your arms around Sam, kissing him back with as much intent as you could muster.
After some undefinable amount of time (you never knew how long that first kiss of yours was – only that there were many future ones), he finally pulled away, as pink in the cheeks as a frozen hobbit could be. “I hope that explains some things,” he said rather shyly. “I only wished you weren’t here because this quest could be the end of us all, and I want you alive and happy and safe. If I were to be the selfish sort, I’d have taken you with me from the beginning, if only so I could have your beauty and kindness to get me through the struggles of each day.”
You shivered, though the cold likely wasn’t the cause. There was the poet you’d fallen in love with – the strong soul who you knew would probably be the reason this quest succeeded, if the Fellowship could make it off this cursed mountain. “Well, you make the worst sort of liar, Samwise,” you said, but there was a smile on your face. “You had me fooled – though I suppose you’ve somewhat made up for it now.” In fact, you could barely suppress the giddy grin that was trying to stretch your frozen cheeks.
Sam laced his fingers through your cold ones. “Well, I suppose there’s no turning back now, so we might as well make the best of it. I suppose I can hardly complain now, with you as my companion...or sweetheart now, I suppose.”
“I’ll tell you a secret,” you whispered, “I’ve always wanted to hear you say those words.” You squeezed his hand. “I came because I couldn’t stand to leave you, and I don’t plan to. Let’s go warm our bones before we freeze into a pair of hobbit-sicles.” You tugged him after you to the fire, which warmed everyone through the night.
Hope no longer seemed so far away.

imagine it's snowing outside, and your waiting for Sam to get home from hanging out at Frodos, and Sam enters the house, and puts his cold finger on the back of your neck to tease you, and you squeal, and while he laughs you hand him the cup of tea you prepared for himand when he's finished he yawns, and picks you up bridal style and carries you to bed and you just lay there under the covers, curled up almost impossiblally close, and he's so warm against the cold air, and the rythym of his breathing is so tranquil, and his arms around you are safety itself, and you wonder about the terrors this wonderful, sweet, kind, and and loving soul had to face on the way to Mordor.
If y'all want an actual Sam x reader, y'all can tell me, I can't promise anything, but there are not enough of my guy Sam

Work of Love - Sam Gamgee x (Fem) Hobbit!Reader
Lord of the Rings Oneshot
Tumblr media
For @barclaysangel
Warnings: None, this is just fluff.
Summary: In an attempt to confess your feelings for him, you gift Sam the first finished proyect of your newest learned craft.
Note: Short cute piece written in a rush of inspiration in one sit directly inspired by a conversation with my friend. Also, i remembered crochet is Middle Earth accurate because the first Hobbit film said so lol
Tumblr media
Learning all the uses a hobbit lass of good family could need wasn't an exahusting task, but your mother wasn't always a patient teacher. Her fast knitting could be hard to follow and that made lessons turn out a little boring. She was brillant at her craft and admiring her beautifull pieces tended to make you feel frustrated with your own slow progress. Noticing and understanding your feelings, at some point she switched tecniques and help you try some crochet points. There was a considerable improvement in your confidence with the needle, but to her the problem was somewhere else.
Distractions, your head was always on some cloud and she could tell you would rather be at Bag End hearing the ramblings of crazy old Bilbo Baggins than focusing on your lesson. Ever since you started frequenting his nephew through persistent invites on his part you were acting different. Some would imagine that the tales had gone to your head, but she suspected of something else.
A crush, perhaps in the lad whose fate was inheriting the great riches of Mr Baggins. After all, Frodo was a polite and good looking young hobbit that seemed to have gained great interest in you lately considering the frecuency of his invitations. Clues on her perspective made it a logical assumption to make, but it was far from the truth.Despite Frodo was always pleased with your company, he didn't want it merely for himself. One way or another, you would always end up involved with his gardener. At first, producing encounters through his iniciative, but very soon on your own liking.
Sam was lovely, of delightfull manners and handsome looks. Ignoring the way his face would transform whenever you were near was impossible and it even earned you both some subtle teasing from Bilbo himself. The lad had the tendency of respectfully shying away from crossing glances and you could swear you saw him blush to an innocently delivered compliment you once gave him once. The way in which Frodo, his best friend, would always insist on finding new settlings for you to spend time together was suspicious enough for you to consider an implicit motivation.
Tenderness have won you over despite Sam never did any autentical attempts of pursuing you, but you were considering he could be crushing on you as you were already on him. His attitude during the great birthday party of Bilbo seemed to confirm your suspects. Long before the generous party host dissapeared in front of everyone, when many hobbits were still dancing and you were among them, Sam was sitting at the table showing his back to the crew. Despite you attempted smiling from afar, he wasn't approaching, yet right after you danced with Frodo he practically threw his friend in your direction with complicit laughing.
Guided by her teasings on wrong assumptions, and hoping to help you concentrate, your mother ended up suggesting you to show affection towards your crush giving him the first finished work you could accomplish. Motivation worked wonders as you secretly imagined the reaction of Sam to the atentive gesture. For said reason, you picked the project with care. It had to be something easy that could provide him a sort of use. A piece he wouldn't mistake for a simple mathom meant to circulate through the Shire, but a simple show of your intense affection towards him.
The outcome was reflection of work made with love: a circular doily with neat patterns you were quite proud of. Knowing he would be occupied with the matters of his inheritance, you didn't wait untill Frodo would invite you to his home under some circunstantial excuse. You didn't want that either, since you didn't want to feed the hopes of your mother thinking you were going to charm the heir and new owner of Bag End. Instead, you pretended to pass by cassually and stopping on your way to somewhere else, peeking at the garden with the hope of finding Sam.
It was a beautifull morning, the sun was shinning bright and you didn't expected your crush would be hidding from you while trimming the verge ... or at least pretending to do so.
" Good morning, Sam! " You saluted after approaching untill being right behind him. " Are you alright? "
He turned back nervously, refusing to engage in eye contact while attempting to respond.
" Miss (y/n)! It's great to see you, ... If you excuse me I will go to the house and tell Mr Frodo of your presence. "
You couldn't help chuclking a bit, aware of his confussion.
" You don't have to, I came to see you. "
The clarification made him even more nervous, but in a different way. It was as if an incredible surprise would have left him incapable of coherent responses.
" Me? Why would I be given such honor? "
More sweet confussion in his eyes, and you wished you could have kissed him.
" Because I'm passing by to give you a present. "
He abandoned his working tool fearing he may have dropped it otherwise.
" I was not aware of being held in such high regard by you."
You started twirling a strand of hair with your index finger.
" Of course you are! You are my favorite part of visiting Bag End! Not like I don't appreciate the friendship of Frodo, but I like you the most. "
He couldn't get himself to believe your words.
" Me, miss? " He repeated, as if he tried to convince himself out loud. " How can I be ..., when there are other aspects from this home that are trully wonderfull? "
" I think you are wonderfull, Sam. " You sweetly confessed, then revealed your gift. " And I wanted to show you my affection with this. "
As you handled it to him your eyes meet and he didn't back away from your smile.
" It's self made, the first good result of my lessons."
Sam accepted it as if it would be the most precious thing in the whole Shire.
" I'll treasure it, have no doubt..."
He interrumpted himself, getting nervous all over again once he realized he had nothing close that he could give you in return.
" I'm afraid I have no inmediate means to retribute you, since your kindness has taken me by surprise I couldn't think of anything and it would be extremely rude to offer you flowers from Mr Frodo's garden without his consent to cut some ... "
Before he could keep overworrying, you made your intentions clear by cutting him off with a kiss on the cheek.
" I like you, knowing if you like me back is all the retribution I need."
Your call for honesty was answered with a confession he delivered without thinking.
" You are the most beautifull girl I have ever seen."

Do you ever think about the fact that he probably didn’t even know who he was anymore here. He didn’t remember the Shire and the only thing he saw was darkness. I still can’t believe he managed to survive. There is so much strength in him and he is the purest soul. He is so little but so big. God I love him so much.

How the Fellowship Would Sleep
Tumblr media
a/n: Here's another headcanon! These are just the dumb things I think of lol. I feel kinda bad bc some of them have half a sentence and some a whole paragraph but whatever ig I have more headcancons with them in it
________________________________________
Gandalf: You can hardly catch him sleeping at all, or at least, no one can tell when he's asleep or awake. Sometimes he has his hat on his face but when Merry or Pippin try to pull a prank on him, he'll yell at them.
Aragorn: He doesn't sleep all that much and only is "resting his eyes." Always makes sure the hobbits get rest. hobbit dad #1 Always makes sure he knows where his sword is.
Legolas: He can sleep while he's walking, like all elves, and prefers to walk among the stars. Is often heard singing some old elvish tune, and Gimli usually tells him to stop (but he doesn't)
Gimli: very heavy sleeper. He snores the loudest--it sounds like an army of orcs going over a waterfall, as Legolas describes it. He always has his axe by his side. He grunts whenever he moves. Once, Merry and Pippin braided his whole beard while he was asleep and he would have strangled them had it not been for Aragorn and Legolas talking sense into him. Gimli always has an eye on them.
Boromir: also a heavy sleeper. He snores, but not nearly as loud as Gimli (he denies it though). He'll shout battle-cries in his sleep every now and then and scare everyone awake. He turns into a watch dog when the hobbits fall asleep. hobbit dad #2 Takes up all the space he is physically able to.
Merry: snores occasionally, but mostly just breathes loudly. He always sleeps on his back with his hands behind his head. Always makes sure he has his pipe in his pack before he goes to bed. Also, makes sure Pippin doesn't sleep too close to a cliff or anything. sweet big brother cousin. aww
Pippin: talks or sings in his sleep all the time. He can sleep forever and a day, but once he's awake, everyone is. Has a designated blanket that no one touches which he claims is for "good luck purposes" baby fool of a took
Sam: snores lightly and is often embarrassed about it. Hates waking up with a bed-head (but all the hobbits do). Has a small teddy bear that hides in his pack, and when it's found out, he claims he "doesn't know how it got in there" while blushing as red as a tomato (it's okay, Sam, we all need our teddy bears)
Frodo: is generally a light sleeper but can sleep for a good long while. Sleeps curled up (babyyyy). He dreams a lot but they're usually not pleasant. Mumbles in his sleep. He gets cold easily.

Lord Of The Rings With a Platonic, Child Reader From Our World
Tumblr media
Characters included : Frodo Baggins, Legolas, Samwise Gamgee, Peregrin ' Pippin ' Took and Meriadoc ' Merry ' Brandybuck
Note(s) : They don't have the time to turn around, so you sort of get roped into joining them, at least until they find a place for you to stay.
Also, in this the reader knows about the Jackson movies but never really paid attention to them, and they haven't read the books.
Frodo Baggins
Tumblr media
Ah, yes, Frodo. Resident ring bearer and anxiety magnet. He was quick to defend you if any suspicion arouse of your random arrival, you're a human and can't even reach his height, the Hobbit that can't reach an elves or humans chest, so, you must be incredibly young. Because of this, Frodo can't help but want to help you, especially on the quest.
He's very sweet and caring with you and makes sure you get enough rest. Frodo can't exactly carry you, so if you get too tired to walk the most he can do is hold your hand and guide you along. Despite that, he helps in other ways.
Like how he's always giving you extra food and maybe even a spare coat or blanket that's laying around, he makes sure you get enough sleep even if it means he gets less. Given he's the most important part of this mission to destroy the ring, he's usually a bit babied and overprotected, not so much that's it's immediately noticeable, but it's there.
So, he understands how annoyed you can get when it happens with you, though he definetly thinks your situations are different considering he's technically an adult and you aren't even close to being one.
Frodo isn't too sure how to help you when it comes to you being afraid, or angry, or even just in a state of depression about your situation. He doesn't exactly realise how strange and overwhelming it must be for you, until or if you begin to start wearing down mentally. His solution is to try and read you stories, no, he didn't exactly bring any books with him, but he has certain books memorised.
It may help, it may not, but the thought is what counts, and he is trying to help you the best he can with the unfortunate situation he's in.
If you ever claim to know him or the fellowships story, maybe Bilbo's, or even accidently letting in on events to follow, he's stunned. At first given the fact you claimed to be from a land nobody, not even Gandalf, has heard of, the strange reactions you had to their foods and way of life, among many, many other things, he became convinced you weren't human. That, or you were from a different time, the future specifically, he'd never fully believe it or bring it up, but it's always a sneaking suspicion you aren't what you claim.
When it comes time to leave you at a safe village, you're clearly unhappy, wanting nothing more than to stay with the Hobbit who helped you through your toughest hours. Yet, he understands you mustn't come with him, it's far too dangerous for you. And so, he leaves, leaving you heartbroken.
When he eventually returns, the ring destroyed, Middle Earth saved, he can't help but feel empty. His time spent with you becomes short lived, a few months at most, before he decides to move on, leaving you alone again, I suppose it makes leaving Middle Earth to return home easier, but all the more bitter.
Legolas
Tumblr media
Legolas understood how weak humans are compared to his kind, and to see a human child so alone made his heart break. He couldn't help but become your protector, especially when you seemingly had no idea how to function in this world. Sometimes, if you're too tired and the rest of the group isn't, he'll pick you up, it can make you feel a little weak, but he assures you it's just because you're young. He'd treat any other child the same.
I think he may be one of the few to actually understand in part what you mean when you say you aren't 'from here'. He won't clock in immediately, but after seeing just how different you viewed life and just everything in general, how you can't do the most basic of tasks without some help, or how you looked at him with such familiarity, there's just a lot he notices that makes him raise a brow.
If you tell him, Legolas may believe your making it up, you're a kid after all, one that's going through a lot. But, after realising you're dead serious he wracks his brain trying to remember if anybody has ever mentioned something like this happening. He wants to try and help you go home, and plans to bring you home with him so he can find a solution somewhere. And if he can't find one? He wants to help you find peace in your predicament as long as you stay there.
When it comes time to leave you at a safe haven, he is sad to leave you behind, you're a little friend, after all. But, he understands it must be done, and explains to you exactly that, which makes the ending a bit more sweet than bitter.
Eventually, he does return, and meets with you once more, he understands that in a blink of his lifetime you'll be dead, but, that doesn't stop him from being your closest ally during all of this. However, you do need to return to Earth. He finds himself mourning you far sooner than he expected.
Samwise Gamgee
Tumblr media
Sam becomes a literal dad, you're a random human kid in this traumatic journey to destroy one of the most dangerous items in the entirety of middle Earth, and you claim to have no idea where you are. He's giving you extra food, holding your hand and picking you up, if you get too cold or scared in the night he'll try hugging you for a while and telling you stories of misadventures in the Shire. As plain as they may seem compared to a journey to destroy the most dangerous object in the entirety of Middle Earth.
If you're sad, the most he can do is offer comfort in the way of cuddling, or a story, sometimes he even has to ask Gandalf for help because he's just so lost. Anger is something he can deal with a little better, he holds your hand and tells you why you should be angry, but you shouldn't keep it bottled or use it unfairly against others.
I think at first Sam would just believe you come from a strange human place, and that's why your behaviour is so off. That's until he notices some things, when asked about things he'd consider basic knowledge, you are completely blank, sure, maybe you know what an elf is, but after that you sort of just stare at him confused at what he's talking about. You even believed him to be a dwarf at first!
He asks Boromir and Aragorn if they know any human places that you're talking about, neither know, so he's even more perplexed at what on middle earth you're talking about. He begins to believe you're making it up, he's not condescending like most adults, and he pretends that he understands if to give you some peace of mind, but all it does is make you more frustrated and scared. You just want to go home.
Your short time as friends comes to an end, he must leave further on in the journey, and you must stay behind, you both understand, well, he does and you partly do, all you can do is wait for the ring to be destroyed.
Sam returns, and he takes you back to the Shire with him, where he introduces you to everybody, you're almost like a child to him, but then you leave to go back to Earth. He can't stop his heart from breaking, even more so when Frodo leaves.
Meriadoc 'Merry' Brandybuck and Peregrin 'Pippin' Took
Tumblr media
The fact you're incredibly young, found yourself in a traumatic and confusing situation, let's not even mention the fact there's little people with gigantic hariy feet and no shoes, you'll probably try and cope. Whether that's with humor or shutting down, Pippin and Merry are a package deal, no matter if you like them or not, a young and confused presence egnites their curiosity.
Besides, Gandalf specifically told them to not be overbearing and or overwhelm you, so what does Pippin, master of disappointing and angering the grey wizard do? That's right, he becomes overwhelming. And Merry, master of attempting to one up his dear friend, does the exact same.
How they do this depends on your mood, if you're depressed and very shy they'll try cheering you up, asking questions about your home, if that makes it worse? They begin acting even more childish than usual to make you laugh, to the literal pain and torture of Gandalf. But if you're trying to cope with humour, they are more so just tagging along, making jokes that distract you from your pain.
Neither will clock in that you're from an unfamiliar world, sure, you're weird, but so are they. Both assume your strange actions are simply just a result of you being a human, do Boromir or Aragorn act the same? No, but you're a human kid so, that probably factors in somehow.
Both laugh you off if you try to explain the truth, they don't believe you, and reduce it to a good story that they can give to Frodo to write about. You may get angry, sad, or just decide to go with it, neither really notice that you're not lying until someone else points out how dumb that idea is.
When it finally comes time to drop you off, you want to stay with the two, because while they're in part strangers and this is a strange land, they're at least familiar, unlike the place they're basically abandoning you at. Pippin and Merry feel the same, and so sneak you with them.
The situation may become dire, and you probably get incredibly unhealthy and sickly in your time with them, but when it's all over, you feel like you've gained two older brothers. Which will make it so much more painful when you have to say goodbye.

the fellowship tries to set you up on a date
a/n: i'm skipping the line of requests for a bit to post this for @queenmeriadoc 's birthday since it was my wife's request hihi 💛 anyway it's probably chaotic but I hope you enjoy regardless! It's platonic between you and the characters, but your crush is gender neutral ☺️
Tumblr media
Aragorn & Boromir: now these two have sort of opposite kinds of advice and plans… while Aragorn is a very “what is meant to happen will happen” kind of romantic, Boromir likes to go out and make things happen, and they can’t really agree on how to get you together with that one person you have great chemistry with… Aragorn will hint, either in conversation with you or with your crush, that you should write a poem to each other, or just ‘accidentally’ happen to be in the same place at the same time, especially if it’s a more secluded or romantic place. And Aragorn will also somehow try to arrange this for you. Boromir, on the other hand, is more the kind to go for it and to advise you to do the same. However, rejection is SCARY so maybe you’re a bit hesitant, but Boromir certainly won’t hesitate to not-so-subtly drop your name in the conversation with your crush, or to just be like, “oh, you like them? just go and say so” … maybe it’s best to listen to both of their advice to a certain extent.
Legolas & Gimli: they might not agree on too many things, but they do agree that you should go and braid your crush’s hair, or ask them to braid yours, which can definitely turn out to be an intimate moment. but, like I said, they agree on little else - Legolas will try to get you to go on a walk in the woods with your crush, and the darker forest the better because then you have an excuse to be close to that person and be protective/be protected. Gimli would much prefer if you went and asked them if they want to practice sparring with you or help you better your sword fighting or something of the like. Actually Legolas would do an almost disastrous job when he goes to talk to your crush and drop hints that they should ask you for a walk or something… the crush isn’t even sure what Legolas is playing at, but Gimli on the other hand can be quite a sweet-talker (remember Galadriel), and he ends up smoothly persuading your crush to ask you to do something together. Furthermore, he doesn’t let Legolas live it down.
Sam + Frodo: okay they’re both maybe a little shy so they wouldn’t instantly want to pull the strings too much, directly, between you and your crush, but they’re more than willing to help you drop some hints about how you feel! Sam is definitely going to suggest to you that maybe you give flowers to your crush or cook them their favorite meal, and eventually he will, every now and then, mention your favorite flower/food/dessert to your crush in order to nudge them a little bit to get it for you. Frodo is also for sure in favor of small gifts, especially the ones that show that you know your crush and that you listen to them when they talk about their interests. Sometimes in front of that person Frodo will drop a small compliment about you like, “Oh, [Y/N] looks really lovely today, don’t you think?” overall both of them would be so supportive of you and sweet, but they wouldn’t meddle too much and try to influence the actions of your crush directly, but they will always encourage you and hype you up!
Merry & Pippin: BESTIE. good luck, that’s all I’m gonna say. Number one suggestion they’d have for you to get your crush’s attention is PULL A PRANK ON THEM. Or they would go to that person and suggest that they pull a prank on you, because why not? At one point, one of them would definitely accidentally slip up and say something among the lines of “[Y/N] really likes you” and then oops… something that they would do a lot is shamelessly compliment you in front of your crush, whether it’s your looks, humor, strength, intelligence; but you had to tell them to tone it down because it seemed like they were in love with you at one point. For sure they would somehow arrange for a little situation in which oh-so-accidentally you and your crush end up locked in the same room together or something. And you can’t even be mad when you hear them laughing from behind the door!

Headcanons for Samwise and Rosie meeting for the first time
I giggled when I saw this. I hope you'll like what I came up with for our sweethearts! 💛
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rosie lived with her family on South Lane, in a farm near Bywater. Her family had always been close to the Gamgees.
Sam was the youngest son of Hamfast Gamgee. He was the gardener of Frodo Baggins.
Everyone knows everybody in a place like Hobbiton. Consequently, Sam and Rosie were familiar with each other's faces long before they exchanged even a simple "good morning".
But that fact didn't make their first encounter any less exciting and nerve wracking.
Sam had always been in pure admiration of Rose Cotton. Her extremely curly hair, her extra puffy dresses... and not to mention the cheerfulness that she emitted while dancing, during the occasional event in the Shire.
He had a huge crash on her and the teasing jokes coming from Merry and Pippin -sometimes even from Mr.Frodo- only fueled his feelings for the young lass.
Unbeknownst to Sam but simultaneously luckily for him, Rosie saw in him a hardworking gentlehobbit. She was always kinder and faster to serve him when he would visit the Green Dragon.
But even with all that in mind, they had never actually met on a personal level.
It happened on a bright spring morning.
Rosie was out to fetch some fresh fish from the market. Sam was on his way to Bilbo's hobbit hole.
Sam's palms began sweating the moment she came in his field of vision.
Rosie's cheeks took a bright pink shade when she laid her eyes on him. One of her hands immediately went to fix her hair a bit.
Sam stuttered a greeting that was thankfully returned.
Rosie knew that the young hobbit was shy, something she found truly adorable, so she decided to take the initiative to ask him about his plans for the day.
Sam took this chance to talk to her with great enthusiasm.
He didn't want to admit it, but he always got jealous when other men talked to her at her work. It would make him feel insecure about his lack of courage to be the one to court her.
Not to insinuate that this was the only reason which made Samwise be so interested in miss Cotton.
Rosie was so lively and she liked flowers... just like he did. She could be a great company, a sun ray to warm up the coldest days of winter. Maybe she was the whole sun, at least in his eyes.
Their small talk wasn't of any importance if you were to view it as an outsider. To them however, it meant the whole world.
They were able to give permission to refer to each other more casually.
Samwise became Sam and Rose became Rosie.
The gardener even mastered up the courage to tell her she dances very gracefully.
Her giggle had made his knees go wobbly.
She returned the compliment in the best way possible...
"I saw how beautiful your peonies have gotten Sam. The whole village is talking about them!"
The goodbye that inevitably followed was awkward, but still sweet. Caution, shyness and eagerness all mixed together in a colourful haze.
A smile so wide it made their cheeks hurt was stuck with them for the rest of that day.
They just had to see each other again...

Samwise Gamgee and elf reader made me cry deeply inside at the fluff and I don’t know how else to satiate this need, except to please request more fluffy (maybe smutty) writings on their happily ever after. Especially since I believe eventually Sam must too go to the undying lands since he held the ring after Frodo was paralyzed? (In the books at least?). Does his elf wife give him a big bunch of kids? Or are they a small family with one or two? Gotta know about those half elf half hobbit babies.
(oooh yes okok I'm gonna do some headcanons on this :) enjoy!)
(Sam x female!elf!reader, continuation of this post)
Once you first move to the Shire with him, Sam gives you as much time as you need to settle in before he starts bombarding you with anything.
He more than happily shows you around and introduces you to everybody (the introductions may or may not come at a party that Merry and Pippin may or may not have organized in secret).
Once you are fully settled and happy, Sam is quick to propose to you. It isn't a huge busy affair, just a simple romantic evening together, and he proposes as you watch the sunset.
Obviously you say yes.
The wedding planning is not something either of you are particularly fussy about, so if there's a really particular thing you'd like then he's fine with it.
Most, if not all, of the Shire is invited to celebrate, along with a few close friends from further lands. The remainder of the Fellowship is present, who cheer by far the loudest when the two of you kiss, along with Arwen, Faramir and Eowyn.
Sam just about feels his heart stop beating when you tell him you are pregnant for the first time.
Cue a mild sequence of panic and many gentle reassurances from you.
The pregnancy is not easy by any means, but it is certainly nothing to panic over and you have very few complications, and soon enough you give birth to a wonderful baby girl.
Her hair is light and curly, just like her father's, and the tips of her little ears come to a point - an indication that she was definitely half elf.
At your suggestion, which Sam enthusiastically agrees to, you name her Lily.
You end up having four more children over the years - two boys and twin girls. They are all a handful to deal with sometimes, but Merry and Pippin are the best uncles ever, and will happily spend a day with them to give you and Sam a break.
Because of how tall you are compared to them, be prepared for your children to just start climbing you at any given moment.
You watch, hand in hand with Sam, as they grow up in front of you, and you watch as your husband begins aging too.
Wrinkles begin to form on his skin, his joints begin to ache, and you fear his mind is not as sharp over time as it once was.
You begin to prepare. Many years ago you had consulted with Arwen and Legolas about this eventuality, and had it all planned out.
So when all your children have grown up and started their own lives, and Sam tells you he fears it is his time to go, you simply smile softly.
You have explained to your children already, and while they are sad that the both of you are leaving, they understand and promise to take care of each other.
You take Sam back to Rivendell, where he had asked you to stay so long ago, and find a boat waiting for you.
His hand over yours, he murmurs "Where... where are we my dear?"
"Do not worry, my love. We are going to join my kin."
And with that, you board the boat, and sail to the Undying Lands with your husband.
