The books if they were titled from Eugenides’ perspective:
Book 1: I’m So Cool
Book 2: I’m So Cool But Also Can Someone Help Me Tie My Hair Back
Book 3: If Someone Calls Me Kingly I will Hook Them But Look at This Fancy Hat (still cool though)
Book 4: Well Look Who Decided to Show Up
Book 5: Wouldn’t They Be Cute Together 😏
Book 6: Ok But That Spin Move Was Kinda Cool Though

Tolkien wrote LOTR in the 30s and 40s when women had no rights. He wrote Eowyn as this badass who laughed in the face of death and stood up to the sexism of men.
In the movies that were made in the late 90s and early 2000s, they decided her feminist scenes from the book weren't worth keeping and all we got was "I am no man".
Tolkien knew the importance of women, not just being a part of the narrative, but leading it, and, as much as I love the movies, Peter Jackson didn't. This will always be something that pisses me off. There are SO many men and they cut the scenes of the one woman who stood up to them.
Women in fantasy deserve more. Women in film deserve more. Women deserve more. Period.
To all the little girls watching LOTR: I hope you read the books as soon as you can. There's more for you. You can be the hero just as much as Aragorn, Frodo, Sam, Theoden, Legolas, Gimli, Gandalf, etc. But don't just stop there. You don't need anyone to tell you what you're able to do, especially a man. Be your own Tolkien. Write your own story. Make your own movie. Do what you want because you can.
