I love how you can use the environment in baldur’s gate.
for instance, I got my ass completely handed to me in a battle, so on my second attempt I piled barrels of gunpowder & wine near where the enemies would run out, and had one of my guys posed with a fire spell to ignite them. and THIS TIME, I triggered a massive explosion on my first turn of combat, instantly killing my entire party.

Rescuing Allies
Hello darlings! Today's story was brought to you by Stella! Darling thank you so much for all your support!
Prompt: Pride of Place
+++
Tilsie knew what she looked like.
She as a short, chubby cook, with hair that was fluffing out of her flour-dusted braid. Her shoes were sensible, and her dress was simple, with only a little embroidery around the hems to mark her position as the pastry cook of the whole castle. Her arms were thick with muscle, and her face was closer to round than it was to fine-featured.
When one was the chosen lover of the most beautiful woman in the world, such comparisons were inevitable, and while Atteila had made her opinion on Tilly’s body very clear, others were not so kind. Tilly knew she was a pretty woman, but she was the kind of pretty that married the miller down the road and put out a dozen children, not the kind that fell in love with a princess and spirited her and a prince out of a castle.
Now, however, it seemed that there was no time to indulge her own insecurities. Atteila and Hanver were counting on her. She couldn’t let them down.
So Tilly hastily pulled her hair free of her braid, shook as much of the flour out as she could, and shook out her skirts. There were some benefits to being clearly of the peasant stock. No one would mistake Tilly for a royal. She never thought she would be grateful for that.
The stables weren’t deserted. A pair of ragged men were rolling dice on a barrel, lazily guarding a handful of soldiers who sat in a line, bound and bruised from what had clearly been an attack they could not withstand. Tilly made eye contact with the nearest, a man named Nezza, who sometimes came to the kitchens when he had a free moment. Tilly slipped him the pastries that weren’t nice enough to serve the nobles, and in return, he went with her maids down to meet food deliveries for the kitchens.
His eyes went wide, but Tilly put a finger to her lips and eyed the two men, who hadn’t noticed her yet.
She wasn’t a fighter, but for Atteila, she would fight anyway.
Serving girls were never a threat. She didn’t walk like a soldier, or wear armor that would clank along as she walked. Skirts weren’t terribly convenient, but they were quiet.
The stove that warmed the stables was close to hand. The stove itself was cold, which was normal for summer, but there was always a small stack of firewood beside it. She took up a hefty branch, took to long steps out of hiding, and brought the branch down on the head of the nearest man. He dropped, unconscious in moments, and his friend staggered back, his eyes wide. He grabbed for his sword, but Tilly, armed and strong with terror, bashed him too. He tried to block, but bakers had strong arms, and he was off balance.
“Remind me never to annoy you, Miss Tilly,” Nezza said when she dropped her branch to untie him. “How did you get here? What are you doing here?”
“No time, are there more of them in the stables?” Tilly asked hurriedly and moved to the next soldier as soon as Nezza’s hands were free. He got to work on his feet and was soon raiding the two fallen men for their weapons. “How many came in the gates?”
“Close to fifty. A proper fighting force,” Nezza said grimly. He moved to the door and froze. “Get down; There’s someone in the bushes!”
“I know!” Tilly said and yanked him back inside before she hesitated. “You’re loyal, right? To His Majesty and the princess?”
Nezza narrowed his eyes at her but nodded slowly. Tilly waited another moment until the rest of the soldiers nodded too.
“Right,” she said, and whistled, three short notes that carried further than anyone expected. Perfect for catching the attention of a maid in a noisy kitchen. Or for calling two royals out of hiding. “I brought some friends from the kitchens.”
“Princess Atteila,” Nezza whispered, and knelt when Atteila and Hanver ducked into the stable. Atteila reached for Tilly’s hand and pulled her close when Tilly took it. “We feared you lost. How…?”
“We were in the kitchens when the attack came,” Atteila explained and pulled him to his feet with her free hand. Hanver joined the soldiers in getting everyone untied. “Tilly took us out through the scullery and into the gardens before we could be captured. Is there word of my father, the king?”
“None, your highness,” Nezza said, clearly uncomfortable but the highest-ranking soldier in the room. Two of his fellows dragged the men Tilly had knocked out into one of the stalls and tied them tightly. “We were taken before we could raise the alarm. Please accept our humblest apologies for our failure.”
“I would not expect any ten men to hold against fifty,” Atteila told him kindly, and squeezed Tilly’s hand. “We must retake the castle or escape, but I know nothing of war. Is the castle lost?”
“We outnumber the ragged lot a dozen to one if we can get to the barracks,” Hanver suggested, the only one of them who had actually been to war, and who had, despite his father’s opinion, a decent head for tactics. He shrugged one shoulder when Nezza looked at him questioningly. “The castle has a large number of soldiers assigned here on rotation. They must have been blocked into their barracks or they would have already taken the castle back. So where are the barracks?”
Her part done, Tilly wrapped her arms around Atteila and held on tight.
Perhaps it wasn’t so bad to be the one who faded into the background. Now, they might just have a chance to fight back.

III: ALBATROSS
Pilot ID: Harlan Salk-Wakeford, RKTS-S Platform #107 ("Colony Veritas") Status: Active Current Assignment: Supply line suppression, standard anti-materiel targeting regimen
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dropped off Harlan's wedding ring earlier. Put it in his palm before they took him in for final preparations. They'd already rewired his optic nerves into the targeting superstructure before I got there. The technicians said he could still perceive his surroundings, but he didn't close his hand when I held it. Apparently that's normal.
I think I was too fast for him to feel me.
He's in orbit now, camping in the L8 Lagrangian Point between Colony Veritas and our shield moon. His installation's big enough to see from the cliffs south of our cabin. I camp underneath him on the seaside, at the big overhang with the willow tree and the gulls. My telescope fits nicely up there.
The barrel of his new body glimmers at night. It's two miles long, I'm told, big enough for me to walk down the grooves of the rifling. Every round he'll fire is the size of a four magrail cars stacked on top of each other. From planetside it's not so imposing, though. It's almost delicate from that far away, a razor-thin line projecting from the rest of him, incomplete under harsh light, like a cat's whisker.
He can see faster than light now. Command says he's the closest that colony stock can come to godhood. I believe it.
But I don't want to.
They unveiled his new body two months into the occupation. It's a new type of ultra-long-range battery, one that fires fast enough to warp space: a Relativistic Kinetic Targeting System—Superliminal-class. RKTS-S. Pronounced "rickets", like the ancient Earth disease that ruined people's bones. That turned children into hunched figures with legs like parentheses.
They break the gunner's legs outwards to fit them in, funnily enough. The rest follows slowly, incrementally cracking out then back into place, like a branch snapping in reverse. I asked the technicians why they did it like that. No one answered me. They just turned the cranks and stared at the floor.
They use some type of singularity lensing to alter the gunner's consciousness. Time dilation swallows them. In seconds they live a billion lifetimes, all prescripted targeting protocols injected into the spine with a cocktail of salts and stem cells that crack the brain apart. Somehow, the people stay inside, and they can take commands just fine. I'm unsure how.
They remember what their old life was. Some of them even talk. The signals of the speech fire beyond their reach, beyond will, looping for millenia of perceived time before their body spits them out. The world around them moves like a glacier.
Gunners aren't allowed outside of their bodies. It's inhumane to make them leave.
Harlan signed up when I wasn't home. He sent me out for errands in the morning, at the crack of dawn, acted like it would be a fun surprise when I got back. I didn't think anything of it at the time.
I could walk okay with the cane, but it took all day just to go to the markets without money for the trams. He misplaced my cards and used the cash for something he didn't want to talk about. I made it back at dusk.
I couldn't be mad, not truly. I know the Septarchy would have taken me for infantry if he didn't agree to it. I yelled anyway. I regret that now, so much. More than anything.
I think he was counting on that—me taking so long. I couldn't tell them to take me instead if I wasn't there.
"No, no, let me go. You're not cut out for zero gee. You still get seasick, remember?"
I do now, worse than before. I didn't when he held me.
He'd been inconsiderate before, especially since we lost the baby. The blood terrified him. I guess a fetus dripping through your fingers will do that to a man. Even after that, though, he found the strength to carry me to the ambulance and stay up in the waiting room for two days while they fixed things. He's his strongest when he's afraid.
What I wouldn't give for him to be weak, like me. Now that he's up there I can take official hormones. I can get a beard, get muscles bigger than these frail things my mother's side shackled me with. Get a voice deep enough to cry with dignity.
Sometimes I dream that he's sick. I imagine that he'll come home from the hospital instead of me, infirm and feeble, and he'll get to stop working for awhile while I make bread and cut firewood and carry him for a change. He can pick a ring out from the catalog on the coffee table, and read his novels and heal and sleep.
They married us then, on the installation, after I held his hand. The Septarchy said they'd officiate as long as he signed up for the program; men weren't allowed to be wed without service licenses, and I was only a man to the Septarchy because they didn't let colony women go to war.
Apparently Harlan is rare. One of a kind. Perfect for this.
"I can protect you from up here."
I lie in our tent. My sleeping bag is half-empty. I run my hands over vacant air and I stare into orbit. I think about the surgeon closing his hand around the ring. It's a size too big for him now, since the IVs feed him less heartily than I did.
The vows are over on Veritas. It's okay, though, love. You can take your time.
According to what they said, you'll be accepting them for the next ten million years.

Tipping Point
Content warning for sensory overload.
Everyone knew Lambert was quick to anger but just as quick to forgive. He could be butting heads with Geralt one minute, snarling and snapping then, ten minutes later, they’d be laughing and jostling each other merrily. It was just how he was, going up in flames as quickly as they were extinguished.
By contrast, Geralt would get more broody. He liked to remove himself from the situation, sit and stare off into the distance while he worked through whatever was eating away at him. Usually, after a day or so, he would either be back to his usual, quiet self or seek out someone to talk to - mostly Eskel or Vesemir.
The one that Vesemir worried for was Eskel. He was always there, always steady. Everything about him was so measured, even when he was frustrated, he would take deliberately slow breaths. On especially bad days his right eye would only half open, no doubt the scars pulling at it and causing issues. Really Vesemir had no idea how Eskel kept his cool like that. Even Vesemir himself was prone to yelling at the others when everything stacked up and he’d had enough. But never Eskel. At least, not in Kaer Morhen.
Like any other day, it all started off like usual. Everyone shuffled into the kitchen in various states of awake. Geralt dragged himself in and slumped at the table, not enjoying the existence of mornings in the slightest. Only marginally better, Lambert made it to the counter and was cramming whatever food he found into his mouth. That morning Vesemir had set out a bowl of winter berries for him. By contrast, Eskel was alert, face pulled into a slight frown and jaw ticking from where his teeth were clenched together. So it wasn’t going to be a good day for him. The other two were usually hit and miss at noticing though they usually carried on like nothing was different. This time it was just the same, Eskel sat rigid at the table, sullenly mashing up his oatmeal into pulp and picking the nuts out. His other hand was wrapped around a tankard which creaked ominously.
Eskel could feel the wood giving way under his palm. It was better to focus on that than the thousand other things clamouring for his attentions. He had woken up with each inhale like an icy shard in his jaw. The light from his window had stabbed through his skull. There was a draft which rubbed against his skin as though it was raw. It didn’t get any better after getting out of bed. His joints creaked, he could feel them as well as hear them and the only thing that drowned them out was the rushing of his blood in his ear, powered by the infuriatingly loud thumps of his own heart. Usually on such days Eskel could take a bit of time in the morning to meditate and collect himself. However, try as he might, he couldn’t settle, the air whistling through his nose grated on his nerves, his scars felt tight - not just the ones on his face but every single one of them on his whole body felt raw and burned. Old breaks in his bones felt weak as though they would give out any moment and snap again while his muscles locked tight around joints that had popped out of alignment before. Without the peace that mediation offered, Eskel did the only thing he could, he got on with his day.
The kitchen wasn’t any better, smells overwhelming and only made worse by the others. Eskel could smell their sweat, the lye on their clothes, and up close their breath. There was nothing he could do about it except sit, rigid at the table for as long as was polite before retreating. He had to try and be normal, if he could act it, it would all go back to how it usually was. The creak of the tankard in his hand annoyed him, he could feel the wood bowing, giving way until it could take no more. The crunch of the tankard drew everyone’s attention.
“Oh Eskel,” Geralt sighed with a grin. “You hadn’t forgotten how strong you were since not long after the trials.” He snickered and Lambert fought down a snort too.
The remains of the tankard sailed through the air and bounced off the opposite wall, landing with a sad clatter.
“Shut up! All of you!” Eskel roared. He had no idea when he stood up but now that he was up, he could only think of running, of getting away from all the smells, sounds and stares. There was a whirl of Chaos in the room, buffeting gently in the air, a reminder that Eskel was more closely connected to it than the others.
In the silence Eskel turned and marched out of the room. He had no idea where he was going, all he knew was that he needed silence and darkness. Without much thought he let his feet carry him deeper into Kaer Morhen, down corridors he hadn’t seen in decades. it was dusty, crumbling and stale but at least Eskel couldn’t smell anything other than mildew and dust. He shouldered the door open and shuddered at the cold of the basement. Pitch black, Eskel stumbled over an upended table and growled, punching it. The only wood, left untreated, splintered under his fist. Sitting down in the dust, Eskel pulled his knees to his chest and tried to silence his thoughts.
The kitchen was still in a state of shock. There was still ale dripping down the wall, the food from Eskel’s plate half on the table from where it had been forcefully shoved away.
“I’ve got this.” Lambert said out of the blue, leaving Geralt and Vesemir sat in an even bigger pile of confusion.
“He’s going to get himself kills,” Vesemir muttered. “Come on, we need to go help.”
Except finding Eskel and Lambert was more difficult than anticipated. Their scent was all over the keep so following it was pointless. They searched the regular spots, bedrooms, library, stables, armoury. The two were nowhere to be found. It was only by fluke that Vesemir caught scent of them heading down towards the basement, the dungeons where they no longer tread. It was dangerous terrain both physically and emotionally. None of them had been able to face the place in decades. Now though it seemed they had no choice but to go down there and Vesemir was ashamed to admit he was dreading what he would find.
A steady voice floated out from behind the closed door. “Section 3, humanoids, subsection 4, vampires, entry 2: Bruxae. They are-”
It was Lambert calmly reciting one of the bestiaries. There was no other sound, no raging, no destruction. Sharing a look, Vesemir and Geralt retreated a little, just enough to still hear but hopefully not enough to intrude. On and one Lambert droned, as if reading from a book except there was no light down there and certainly no books. It was soothing and Vesemir found himself not paying attention to the words as such, more focused on the cadence, the soft lilt and each gentle inflection Lambert’s words carried. Snapping out of the moment with the revelation, Vesemir looked to Geralt and found him in the same relaxed mood.
“I’m going to go quiet for a few minutes,” Lambert said, just as soft as before. “We’ll sit here and, if you’re ready, you can come to me for a cu-”
He was cut off by the sound of someone moving and barrelling into his chest, drawing a huff which ended in a small laugh.
“Hello there,” Lambert murmured. “Don’t squeeze quite so tight darling. Thank you.”
An hour easily passed and Vesemir waited. Eventually there was the sound of a sigh.
“Why don’t we get you back to bed for a bit, hm?” More shuffling, a soft groan and the door opened. Lambert looked at the other two but didn’t say anything. He staggered under the weight of Eskel hoisted in his arms but he stared a determined walk towards the bedrooms. Nobody mentioned that he was shirtless and it was draped less elegantly over Eskel’s head, cutting out as much light as possible.
In the evening Lambert appeared in the kitchen again, picking up some bread, soaking it in honey to soften and sweeten it. Along with that he took an apple and a spoon, content to scrape it into a pulp and a tankard of water.
“Is he okay?” Geralt asked.
“He’ll be fine. Will be back to usual by tomorrow, don’t worry.”
Vesemir had a more pressing question. “How do you know?”
There was a guarded look in Lambert’s eyes and he shrugged. “The Path is lonely, we meet up. It’s not all roses and sunshine out there.” After a beat he added, “Usually Kaer Morhen is remote and silent enough that he can keep it under wraps.”
That was as much as he was willing to say and he scurried off back to the bedroom with his spoils. Sure enough, the next morning Eskel walked into the kitchen, no different to any other day. Whatever ailed him the previous day seemed to be long forgotten. The only difference was, this time he sat down next to Lambert and wedged their shoulders together, quietly staring into his bowl to hide a tiny, soft and grateful smile.

October Writing Challenge 2021 - Day 1
The wonderful Eliot Gerard belongs to @kc-and-oc and Selene's better half Ethel Hexley belongs to my beloved bestie @the-al-chemist.
This is a mirror POV to @kc-and-oc first entry to this challenge, so the credit for the framework of the middle part goes to her 💛💙
Tumblr media
Night had fallen over the Scottish Highlands, and with it the peaceful quiet the darkness brought with it. Everything was still´; the green and brown meadows decked with the pink bloom of bell heather; the wind rustling through the old trees; even the waves in the lake seemed to have retired for the night.
The halls of the Fraser Estate were dark and quiet, all of its occupants had long retired to bed; all except one. The silence of the night was broken by a frustrated cry coming from the only room still lit in the vast building.
“Where are those doaty herbs?” Selene Fraser muttered and rummaged through one of the countless open drawers she had only searched twice so far. “Buggers must be around ‘ere somewhere.”
She paused for a moment and grinned; her parents would be mortified to hear her talk like this. Her Highland accent wasn’t strong by any means, but whenever Selene returned to her grandparents’ distillery in between her travels, she found herself falling back into it.
Tomorrow she would set out for her next assignment; apparently, a group of Gringotts Curse-Breakers had unearthed a whole new set of tombs in Egypt, full to the brim with all sorts of magical objects that were of particular interest to Selene.
She wouldn’t call herself a Curse-Breaker by all means, but there were few witches or wizards who had as much knowledge about the darker sides of ancient magic than she did, and so she had been hired for her assistance.
Her last expedition to India had been a disaster, to put it mildly; the healers assigned to their team were the biggest twits Selene had ever come across. She absentmindedly rubbed the bright red scar running across her forearm, a souvenir from their pathetic attempts to heal her wound after she had been hit by a curse gone rogue. It still itched when she remembered it was there.
To not be at the complete mercy of a bunch of amateurs, Selene was determined to make sure she would be properly prepared for the desert. If only she could remember where she had last seen the dried bundle of healing herbs she had purchased on a market in China.
She removed a stack of maps from the drawer and gingerly pushed a perfectly round globe of smooth onyx to the side with the hilt of a hairbrush - it was a souvenir from Peru Selene wasn’t entirely sure she had uncursed it yet, so she figured it was better not to touch it. But still, no healing herbs anywhere to be seen.
With a sigh, she slammed the drawer shut and turned around. “They got to be somewhere,” she muttered, “yer didn’t happen to see them anywhere, did yer?”
The spectral ferret hovering above the drawer Selene had been perusing wiggled his nose and yawned, presenting his pearly white teeth to her.
“Yer not much of a help,” Selene told Alan sternly and turned to the fireplace. She relit the dying fire with a flick of her wand, basking the better half of her room in a golden glow; at least now there was sufficient light to search.
“Make yerself useful and go look in that chest over yonder,” she said and pointed to a huge oak chest in the far corner of the room. Selene usually stuffed everything that didn’t have a proper place in there, and she didn’t even know what it all contained at this point.
Alan chirruped obediently and floated over, doing a few barrel rolls on the way before diving headfirst into the chest. Selene chuckled; even though Alan had been a ghost for some years now, he was still the funny little chap she and Ethel had rescued from their Transfigurations class.
Smiling to herself, Selene turned her attention back to her drawer, when Alan suddenly squeaked triumphantly.
“No way that bugger found them so quickly,” Selene frowned and made her way over. She opened the heavy lid of the chest and moved the things Alan was pointing his nose at to the side until she found an old box with a slightly adjacent lid.
“These aren’t healing herbs, silly, these are…”
The laughter in her voice died when she realised what exactly it was that Alan had found. Ignoring Alan’s questioning squeak, Selene took the box from the oak chest and carried it over to the windowsill, stepping out of the golden glow of the fireplace into the pale silver light of the moon.
A sad expression crossed her face as she removed the small corsage from the box. The dried wildflowers crinkled softly as she turned them carefully between her fingers, thinking back on the night they had been given to her.
It had been in their last year at Hogwarts. It had been only a matter of days until their graduation and their inevitable final departure from the castle, which had been more of a home to Selene than her parents’ townhouse in Edinburgh had ever been.
To mark the occasion, the last ball of the year was taking place in the Great Hall. It had been decorated so lavishly Selene almost didn’t recognise it anymore, just as she hadn’t recognised herself when she had stepped in front of her mirror in her new dress. It was made of dark red silk and even though it featured one of the corsets Selene loathed like nothing else, it was surprisingly comfortable, and not constricting in the slightest. According to his letters, her Uncle Mortimer had spent ages trying to find the perfect dress for the last school dance of his favourite niece.
Where Selene had felt reasonably pretty before, she had felt downright beautiful when her companion for the night, her ex-boyfriend Eliot Gerard, had first seen her walking out of the Gryffindor Common Room. She didn’t want to admit that her heart had started beating faster when had to clear his throat before being able to compliment her and offer her his arm, but she had felt like she was floating on their way down to meet their friends.
She had even ignored Ethel’s sharp look at Eliot. Selene knew Ethel - who was so much more than only her best friend - was only worried. She was convinced bringing her former love to the dance after the way their relationship had ended was a bad idea - something Ethel had made very clear in a very wordy way. But when Eliot led her through the open portal into the glittering Great Hall, even her soul sister’s concerns were wiped from Selene’s mind.
Seeing as they were only going as friends, clearly showing they were mature enough to let the past be in the past, Eliot hadn’t brought Selene a corsage. She had thought she would have felt strange wearing a corsage from someone who wasn’t her date but her friend, but upon seeing a bracelet of flowers on the wrist of almost every other girl in the room, Selene felt her smile grow just that tiny bit sadder.
It didn’t help that most of her friends were too busy with their dates to provide any sort of distraction from how handsome Eliot was looking in his suit and felt hat; even Ethel was too busy bickering with her brother’s best friend to notice Selene’s restlessness.
When she couldn’t bear the light and noise of the music anymore she got up from her seat. “Eliot, it has never been so stuffy in here. I’m going to take a walk,” she said and took a deep breath. She suddenly felt as if she couldn’t breathe. “Will you join me?”
They left the castle behind and took the winding path down to the Black Lake. A warm spring breeze was blowing and catching in Selene’s dark hair, which was tumbling down over her shoulders. She breathed in deeply, more freely now, relishing the scent of the spring night and wildflowers blooming around them; how she would miss this place.
She raised an eyebrow when Eliot suddenly stopped and walked off the path into the meadow beside them and started picking a handful of the flowers that hadn’t closed their petals for the night just yet.
“What are you doing?”
“It’s unfitting that the most beautiful girl at the dance didn’t have her own corsage,” Eliot smiled, “not that you would have needed one to shine, of course.”
He walked over to the huge tree at the shore which had been uprooted by the most recent storm. Selene knew it had been one of Eliot’s favourite places to study, and sure enough, he looked sad as he sat down on it. “Metaphor for us being uprooted soon, I suppose.”
He motioned for Selene to join him; Selene kicked off her heeled shoes with a laugh, gathered up her skirts, and clambered up onto the log. She walked barefoot over the warm wood and hopped down on Eliot’s other side.
Eliot was already busy weaving half of the flowers into a small wreath. His fingers were working deftly and Selene watched with fascination as he tied them together with a few long leaves.
She reached for the other half of the flowers Eliot had set aside and started arranging them to a little bouquet of her own. “It wouldn’t be fair if only the lady got some flowers, would it?”
Eliot looked up from his work and smirked. “I know. That’s why I got so many.”
Selene had to laugh. “Seems like Ethel taught you well.”
Eliot was serious as he slipped the corsage he had crafted over her wrist. “No, you did. You taught me a lot of things.”
He got up and offered Selene his hand. “Might I have one last dance before your next adventure?” he asked.
If Selene listened closely, she could hear the faint sound of music drifting down to them from the castle, but the murmur of the water lapping against the shore was much more beautiful to her. It spoke of freedom, the wide world, adventure, and a longing in her heart Selene wasn’t sure had anything to do with the future that was awaiting them.
She let Eliot pull herself up from the tree trunk and wiggled her bare toes in the cool grass under her feet. With a smile, she fixed the boutonniere she had made to his suit and let Eliot pull her into his arms.
Selene didn’t know how long they were dancing in the moonlight, swaying to a music only they could hear. As much as she burned to see what the future held for her, she didn’t want this moment with Eliot to end.
“This time in a few weeks I’ll be off to America,” Eliot whispered into her hair. “I will miss you. Where will your first adventure take you?”
Selene rested her head against his chest, listening to the steady beating of his heart. “I don’t know. Wherever the wind will blow me, I suppose.”
“Wherever the wind will blow me…” Selene repeated the words of her younger, more foolish self, as she stood watching another lake glimmering in the moonlight so many years later. She blinked slowly, as if waking up from a dream. The wind had blown her many places, and time had made her forget many things, but there were some things she never had been able to erase from her mind entirely.
Her last dance with Eliot was one of them; as was the pain that only came with the shattering devastation of the first time a heart got broken.
Selene turned away from the window abruptly and placed the dried wildflowers back into their box. She put them away into the lowest layer of the oaken chest and piled everything she could reach above it.
Shutting the lid with a resounding pang, Selene stepped from the silver moonlight of the past into the golden firelight of her future. She had no time to wallow in memories better left alone; she had some healing herbs to find.
Eliot Gerard was a ghost of her past, and had no business in her life anymore; not in her present, and most certainly not in her future.

What Form Love Takes
Summary: Geralt and Jaskier return once again to Kaer Morhen, only this time they're travelling high in the skies.
- Can be read as stand-alone - Part 8 of my Shapeshifter!Jaskier AU
CW: Non-sexual/non-graphic nudity (they take a bath)
___________
The fire in Jaskier’s lungs burned as he flew over the mountains. Another year on the path had come and gone. Winter was creeping in, a slow frost carpeting the Continent, tendrils reaching further south with each day. Both Jaskier and Geralt were anxious to return to their home in the Blue Mountains. They’d spent most of the year searching for Yennefer of Vengerberg with no success. Sorceresses were funny people and hard to track down. Jaskier had no doubt that the witch would turn up when she was ready. He roared as the crumbling keep came into sight, a pillar of flames bursting free from his lungs. The colours of the flame danced in front of his eyes, more vibrant in this form than any other. He could see the heat haze rippling through the air and he had to resist the urge to dive and spin through the air, dancing in the waves his flame had created.
But he had a rather fragile witcher on his back who would not be able to hold on if he were to dive the way he wanted. Geralt’s arms already had a death grip around his neck and the flight had been pretty steady so far. He heard his mate groan and felt the slight pressure of Geralt’s head pressing into his scales.
He snorted a smoke ring and flew through it. Flying was a phenomenal feeling. Geralt was just whining for the sake of it.
“Jask…”
Jaskier snorted again. There wasn’t much else he could say to his darling mate in this form without using telepathy, and he had never quite mastered that skill. He had a habit of barrelling into memories instead of placing his thoughts in the other’s mind. So he preferred to avoid it. Instead he just sniffed the air. The scent of roasted venison hit his senses, making his stomach rumble. He peered out over the horizon, a small smoke stack was puffing above the keep. Vesemir already had dinner on the go. Jaskier let out a happy rumble, not too dissimilar to a purr, and he felt Geralt’s finger brush the scales of his neck.
“What have you seen?” Geralt asked, still sounding a little queasy from their flight from Oxenfurt.
He pointed his snout towards the keep that was growing larger the closer they approached. Geralt should be able to see it now with his witcher senses.
“Kaer Morhen,” Geralt hummed and Jaskier nodded. He resisted the urge to dive towards their home. Instead he started a slower descent. When they got closer he still he began to circle the keep, getting lower with every turn.
He roared when he spotted Eskel and Vesemir waiting for the in the courtyard, another pillar of fire tore through the sky before he landed with a heavy thud on the ground. The two witchers waved them down.
“Always a dramatic entrance, bard,” Eskel laughed, reaching out his hand so that Jaskier could bump his snout against the palm of Eskel’s hand.
“We were late setting off.”
“We were starting to worry,” Vesemir huffed, arms crossed in front of his chest. Jaskier felt a swell of bitter pride in his chest. How dare this witcher insinuate that he couldn’t look after his mate? He was a dragon! He let out a low snarl, warmth heating up in his lungs.
“Easy, Jask,” Geralt rubbed the back of his neck in a warning. It wasn’t enough to incapacitate him but it did send a slight ripple of warmth down his spine. He blinked, forcing down his more draconic urges, and focussed on the voice of his mate. “Where’s Lambert?” Geralt asked, not removing his grip from Jaskier’s neck.
“He got caught up in Nilfgaard with that cat of his,” Vesemir grunted “they’re alive.”
Jaskier snorted, tail flicking against the ground. He was looking forward to having his family back together again, the disappointment was almost overwhelming. It wasn’t fair. They already had to walk the path alone throughout the year and now he couldn’t even see them for winter. Geralt must have sensed his distressed as he nuzzled his face against Jaskier’s neck.
“Wintering in Nilfgaard seems pretty cushy to me,” Eskel noted. “A lot less cold.”
Jaskier hissed at the blond witcher, earning himself a laugh from Geralt. “We miss them too, Jask.”
“We’ll get together in the summer for one of the festivals?” Eskel suggested. “There’s always plenty of contracts around then, I think the wine gets to everyone’s head.”
“Good idea.”
Jaskier let out a rumble of agreement before shaking Geralt from his back. The smell of venison in this form was too much, it was making him hungry and he had to dig his craws into the stones to stop himself from charging through the keep to the kitchens. He needed to change from this form, and fast.
Geralt landed next to him and pulled off the makeshift saddlebags with their belongs. Jaskier closed his eyes, letting his magic loose, rippling out in waves over the shiny red scales until pink skin morphed back into view. He landed on his hands and knees on the stone, the chill of the mountainous winter breeze quickly seeping into his bones. “Bollocks,” he hissed and launched himself into Geralt’s waiting arms. “It’s fucking freezing.”
Geralt chuckled and wrapped his arms around Jaskier, shielding him from the wind. Jaskier felt the press of Geralt’s lips on his hair and he sighed happily. The wind might be like shards of ice cutting into his skin but his lover was attentive and Jaskier felt safe in his arms. “We’ve had a long journey, we’ll be down for dinner,” Geralt told the oldest witcher before pulling Jaskier inside the keep. They dumped their bags in the entrance hall before making a beeline for the hot springs that lay deep within the keep, the only part of the building that remained unscathed from the battles of so long ago.
Jaskier shivered violently in Geralt’s arms. He should have transformed into something with fur first but he’d been stuck without words as they flew over the continent for hours, barely taking a break.  His back and shoulder were aching from the journey, a phantom pain where his wings had been. The hot springs would do wonders for the aches. “H. Home,” he stammered through chattering teeth.
Geralt hummed, fingers rubbing circles into his upper arm as they walked. The corridors grew darker as they walked further down, soon the light from the windows and cracks in the wall faded away and the only light left was the glow from the torches along the wall. Geralt held his hand out in front of them, a tiny little ball of fire in his palm. It wasn’t much but the heat from the flames was blissful.
Fuck, humans really weren’t meant for the winters of Kaer Morhen. This year must have been colder than usual, as Jaskier could have sworn that he could usually at least stand outside long enough to strip out of his clothes, perhaps the weariness from the journey had worn him down more than he thought. Now that he thought about it he eyes were starting to droop and Geralt was practically carrying him through the corridors.
“‘M tired…”
“I know.”
Jaskier wanted to make a joke about Geralt’s ever eloquent ways but his tongue felt too heavy in his mouth. Bath, food and a good sleep. That’s what he wanted.
The air was thick with steam as they pushed the door open into the springs. Jaskier sighed happily as the heat prickled against his skin. He took one look at the pools of water and shifted. Geralt’s hand reached up to hold his medallion as Jaskier’s magic whipped out around them, the crack of bones bouncing off the walls. The room grew bigger and he fell to the ground on four paws, scratching against the wet stones as he scurried to the water’s edge. He chosen this form well. He knew he was too tired to bathe without falling asleep and he would really rather not drown. He squeaked up at Geralt before diving into the water.
It was warm, hotter than the water he’d usually have liked in this form. The otters of this species were used to cold open sea water but he wanted to float. He swam under the water for a while, letting the warmth seep into his fur before breaching the surface. He rolled onto his back and closed his eyes, keeping his paws tucked into his chest.
“Jaskier,” Geralt chuckled and Jaskier felt himself float a little further, the water rippling as Geralt finally joined him. “We can’t stay here for too long, love.”
Jaskier squeaked, not opening his eyes. He would stay here forever if he could.
“Are otters really that fluffy?”
Another squeak, and he cracked one eye open to glare at Geralt. His anger didn’t last long when he saw the look Geralt was giving him. It was unbearably fond, head tilted and a soft smile on his face. His hair had come loose from the leather hair tie on the back of his head, and water was clinging to his chest, caught in the dark grey tuffs of hair. Jaskier felt a swell of love in his heart, it was almost too much. He’d spent so many years worrying that he would never find a partner that would accept his true self, hiding his magic away like it was a dirty secret. If he felt himself falling in love then he would sneak out of the window in the dead of night, never to return.
He’d been convinced that no one would ever love him when they knew what he was, and he wasn’t willing to give his heart away to someone that couldn’t accept him. Geralt had blown past all those walls in an instant, and somehow Jaskier had managed to worm his way past the witcher’s own defences, finding both a lover and a new pack to call his own.
He pushed at the water with his paws and floated over to where Geralt was sat at the edge of the pools, he didn’t want to lose Geralt. He couldn’t loose Geralt. He reached out to his partner with his paws, with a quiet squeak.
“I love you too,” Geralt breathed in a soft voice, like he was in awe of Jaskier. As if the witcher wasn’t the most incredible creature on the whole Continent.
Geralt let Jaskier hold onto one of his fingers, tiny paws wrapping around the digit as if it were a lifeline. Jaskier chattered happily before closing his eyes, finally letting the exhaustion wash over him. He was safe, he was home, and Geralt wouldn’t let him float away.
He woke up to a gentle rocking movement, his face pressed against Geralt’s chest as the witcher carried him back to his room. He blinked, flicking his tail out behind him. It was only when he started purring that he realised he’d shifted forms in his sleep. His ears flicked out and he pawed at Geralt’s shirt.
“You only changed once I picked you up,” Geralt answered his unasked question, scratching him gently behind the ears. “I don’t think cats like the water very much.”
Jaskier meowed softly and nuzzled against Geralt’s chest. A gentle bite against Geralt’s collar was all the warning the witcher got before he let his magic ripple out over his skin. Geralt grunted under the sudden weight of the human in his arms, changing his hold so Jaskier was being carried bridal style up to their rooms. “Hey,” he mumbled sleepily “how long was I out?”
“Nearly an hour. Vesemir came to find us a few minutes ago. he’s keeping our food warm.”
Jaskier yawned and then pressed his lips to Geralt’s shoulder, sadly now covered by the tattered black shirt he wore under his armour. “I love you, darling.”
Geralt’s laughed rumbled in his chest and Jaskier smiled, still half asleep, as he buried his face in the crook of Geralt’s neck. Geralt’s hand cradled the back of his neck, carding through his hair, and Jaskier was asleep again in seconds.
The next time he woke they were back in Geralt’s bedroom, the witcher was now fully dressed in his thick winter clothes that the witchers preferred to wear in the evenings once training was done for the day. Jaskier was buried under thick furs on their bed, still naked. A roaring fire was blazing in the hearth, filling the room with its heat. “Dinner?” he asked as he blinked the sleep from his eyes. His stomach rumbled as if to repeat his question.
Geralt chuckled and crossed the room to kiss him on the top of his head. “Ready when you are.”
His stomach growled again and he grinned sheepishly. “I’m starving,” he whined. “why did you let me sleep?”
Geralt raised an eyebrow at him. “You just flew us halfway across the Continent, Jask, you needed the rest.”
“But I’m hungry,” he pouted.
Geralt rolled his eyes. “Bloody bards, never win.”
Jaskier grinned and pulled his boyfriend into a kiss, cupping Geralt’s face in his hands. “Au contraire, my love, I think you win every single day.”
“So modest,” the witcher grumbled against his lips, rubbing their noses together.
“You love me,” he purred.
“Hmm.”
Jaskier giggled and kissed Geralt again, lazily, pouring all his love into the kiss, but he blasted stomach rumbled again before the kiss could get anywhere. He whined as he pressed his forehead against Geralt’s. The witcher laughed, stroking a thumb along his cheek. “Let’s go find the others,” Geralt suggested.
“Hmm,” Jaskier replied, still pouting then with a heavy sighed he pushed Geralt away. “fine, spoilsport. Just let me get dressed first.”
Both Eskel and Vesemir were finished with their food by the time Geralt and Jaskier made it downstairs. Jaskier was wrapped up in thick wool lined clothes, a vibrant turquoise compared to Geralt’s dark navy blue ones. It wasn’t as thick as the fur he could have but he really did want to say hello to his family properly. He’d not seen Vesemir since last winter and they’d only run into Eskel once on the path.
“Greetings,” he waved at the two witchers “sorry we’re late.”
“He fell asleep again.”
“Well I’m sorry! You’re the one that lost Roach in a game of Gwent. It’s not my fault we had to fly all the way here.”
Geralt’s growled at the reminder. He’d been so sure that he could beat the arsehole but the bastard had cheated and they’d practically been run out of town, leaving Roach behind. Eskel gave a full bellied laugh, his tankard of ale crashing onto the table. “I wondered what had happened to her, it was a little soon to be replacing her.”
“She’s not dead,” Geralt grumbled, shooting daggers at Jaskier.
“We’ll find you a new horse in the spring, dearest of hearts,” he cooed, fluttering his eyelashes at his lover in attempt to soothe his anger.
“Not the point.”
“Oh ho ho!” Jaskier laughed, pulling his plate of food towards him. It was venison, of course, with thick gravy and roasted vegetables. On the side was a freshly baked roll, now a cold sadly but he really had needed to rest so he wasn’t too upset. “Grumpy witcher.”
Geralt growled again, which only made Jaskier laugh and this time Eskel and Vesemir joined in. Jaskier reached across the table to poked Geralt on the nose. “You know you don’t scare me, love.”
“Hmm.”
The dining hall echoed with the laughter of witchers, and for a brief moment Jaskier could imagine what Kaer Morhen had been like before the siege; full of witchers, brothers in arms, loyal friends and family. It made his heart ache. As much as he adored his pack, they didn’t deserve the pain of losing so many. Contrary to popular belief, these wonderfully kind beings were not meant to be alone.
He gazed around at his family, a pang of regret that Lambert and Aiden were not with them for the winter, and smiled fondly. He took Geralt’s hand under the table. The witcher raised an eyebrow at him but he shook his head. There were no words to describe this feeling, the warmth in his chest for finding the place that he belonged, the bitter pain of yearning. So many different and conflicting emotions in one single moment. How could he possibly find the words that could encompass all of that? He settled for holding Geralt’s hand under the table as they ate, joking and laughing with their family as if they’d never been away.

The last one was the prequel to this one, which I actually wrote first. It's not even the beginning of the main story, but it was what I came up with first. Oh well. I wanted to do cyberpunk without it being Leakira (which I do love, I just wanted to do something different), and came up with this. I have played the shit out of Shadowrun tabletop, so a lot of it comes from that. And since it's part of the last post, it's still an Omegaverse :)
~*~*~*~
Lance backed away, raising his hands. “Hey, no need for that. I’m not even armed.”
The mercenary pointed with his weapon.
“Over here?” Lance asked, still playing the game. “Ok.” He walked over to the window of the high-rise. “Might want to watch that draft. Wouldn’t want to come down with something.”
His hard-wired comm picked up everything, making the assassin on the ledge outside chuckle. But he knew that it was his cue, and punched through the window feet first, his tech-enhanced boots forcing through the thick glass easily. The black monofilament blade glowed red with heat, cauterizing the sliced wound to the mercenary’s throat and killing him instantly. Lance pulled out a modified holdout pistol, taking out the overpaid mercenary that followed with perfect aim.
“Red! On your nine!” Lance yelled above incoming fire.
A small knife flew, catching the mercenary in the throat. Keith used his falling body as a springboard, launching himself at the next target. Both he and Lance heard the same thing over their comms.
“Comin’ in hot!” Shiro yelled.
Lance and Keith both knew what that meant. That meant that this semi-stealth mission was turning into a Russian stealth mission, and that it was coming in the form of Hunk’s gatling gun. Soon enough, they both heard the whine of a spinning barrel and the screaming of rapid laser fire. Mercenaries were still pouring in and the teammates knew that they would still have to fight their way out. Lance had already retrieved the files and uploaded Pidge’s traceless virus. All they needed to do was get out.
Keith spun in the air, knives flying, carving a path to the exit. As he turned, he caught sight of a mercenary coming up a little too quickly behind Lance. His violet eyes went wide, launching himself off walls, furniture, and bodies.
“BLUE!” he screamed as the mercenary drew a small pistol and fired.
Lance’s gasp caught in his throat, his free hand going to the exit wound in his chest and dropping to the floor. This was wrong. These were just mercenaries. And the Voltron Pack always wore heavily modified body armor. There was no way something so small should have been able to punch through that. In a blind rage, Keith hit the mercenary hard enough to pin him to the floor, drawing the ultraviolet hard-light blade he kept on his back. Pressing his thumb to a bioscanner on the hilt, the small knife expanded in an instant to the straight-edged ninjato, which he plunged through the mercenary’s chest plate. He turned the blade back, jamming it into its sheath.
“Blue’s down! We need evac! NOW!”
The laser bolt from the pistol meant that Lance’s wound was cauterized and he wouldn’t bleed out, but it didn’t keep him from going into shock. Keith barely had the presence of mind to retrieve both Lance’s and the mercenary’s weapons before returning to the marksman.
“Stay with me. Come on, Blue. Team’s coming. I need you to hold on. You’ll make it.” Keith was rambling, and he knew it. But he couldn’t help himself as he watched the light in his Alpha’s blue eyes dim.
The sound of electricity and the smell of ozone whipped past Keith’s senses, a small blur following. Several mercenaries dropped, the blur that was Pidge spinning, her electrified katar flying through the next throng. A powered whine and sharp crack felled a line of mercenaries, Allura quickly moving on to the next group with her whip. Knowing that backup had arrived, Keith focused on keeping Lance awake. The Alpha was only barely conscious, the bolt having blown straight through his lung.
“Come on, baby. Stay with me. Team’s here. We’re getting you out.”
Keith was desperately trying to keep his scent hopeful, but the fear and panic saturating his mate’s was overwhelming. Lance was afraid of dying, and it was looking like a very real possibility. The Alpha’s hand moved, a brief jerking spasm. Keith took it, pulling the tactical glove off and holding it to his face, softly kissing his mate’s palm.
“You’ll be ok. We’re getting out.”
Pidge came up, putting a gentle hand on the Omega assassin. “All clear. We need you to get him to the extraction point. Allura’s got the body of the one that got him.”
Keith hadn’t even noticed it was gone. But he had a new mission objective. Get his mate to safety. He shoved both weapons – Lance’s and the mercenary’s – into Pidge’s hands, and picked his mate up in a bridal carry, racing to the extraction point. Shiro was in the pilot’s seat of their VTOL, a specially built, modular one the Coalition named Atlas. Hunk and Allura were already onboard, Pidge bringing up the rear behind Keith. Allura rushed to help the Omega assassin. The limited medical supplies on the Atlas wouldn’t save Lance in the long run, but it was enough to get him back to base.
The Coalition Rebellion’s base was hidden within a high-rise owned by shell companies belonging to the financial backers of the rebellion. The three biggest supporters were Olkarion BioTech, owned and run by Claudia Ryner, a thin middle-aged woman who could flip between hard-ass CEO and a gentle maternal figure in a split second, Taujeer Chemicals, owned and run by a man only known as Baujal who never showed his face and always used a voice modulator, and The Garrison, manufacturers of weapons, armor, and vehicles, owned and nominally run by Ellen Sanda and more practically run by Cmdr. Iverson. They all wanted the megacorporation that ran the world, Daibazaal Industries, gone as much as everyone else.
The Atlas landed on the grounds of the Rebellion base, known only to the Coalition as the Castle of Lions. Medics were waiting to rush Lance to the medical floors, leaving Keith on the landing pad feeling like his soul had been ripped from his body. The rest of the Voltron Pack surrounded him protectively, and the worry, panic, and fear he’d kept carefully bottled up overwhelmed him and he dropped to the asphalt.
When the assassin woke, he was in a med floor bed. Pidge had set up a work station in the room, the weapon and punctured armor of the mercenary being run through her meticulous scanners. Hunk tinkered with Shiro’s cybernetic arm while Allura paced like a caged tiger. Keith sat up, a wave of dizziness making him lay down again. It got the attention of everyone in the room. Pidge adjusted the bed’s position remotely, allowing Keith to sit up without falling over. They were all at his side immediately.
“Surgery was successful,” Allura told him, “Lance will make a full recovery. He’s still out, and they want him in a completely neutral environment. The only medics allowed in are Betas.”
“I can’t see him?” Keith asked, worry and panic clouding his scent again.
“Not yet,” Shiro said, “He still needs to heal, and you know that pheromones can interrupt that process. Even a bonded mate’s.”
“I could probably get in, check up on him for you,” Pidge offered. There were few cases like Pidge where, even if the corporate-run nanny state hadn’t mandated sterilization for all Betas, she would most likely have done it anyway. The benefit in this case was that she was less likely to upset Lance’s healing.
“Please?” The Omega couldn’t keep the whining cry for his mate out of his voice.
Pidge nodded, placing a small hand on his arm.
“Oh!” Hunk said, darting over to the other side of the room. He came back with a high stack of blankets and pillows. “The medics don’t want you moving around much yet, but we figured you’d feel better with at least a small nest.” He went back, returning with another blanket in a sealed bag. “I went and got this one from your room.”
Keith didn’t need elaboration. He instinctively snatched the bag from Hunk’s hands, holding it close. They were his pack, and fully understood the state he was in. Pidge queued further processes for her scanners and left to check on Lance. Hunk went with her, as he was the only other Beta in the pack and could back her up when they got there. Shiro and Allura were the pack’s other Alphas, and while they wanted to see their packmate safe, they knew they couldn’t be near Lance. They could, however, ensure the safety of their pack’s Omega, and so stayed with him, only assisting with the nest when it was asked for.
Even with limited nesting materials, Keith still was able to build one that made him feel more secure, the soft fluffy blanket from the nest he shared only with his mate adding to the security. The shrill, distressed trill coming from him died down only when he fell asleep, wrapped in his mate’s scent and knowing that his pack’s two other Alphas were nearby.
When Keith woke next, Hunk and Pidge were back. He shot up in his nest, a soft questioning noise rolling up his throat.
“He’s doing better,” Pidge answered. She turned around. “It’s been about six hours since we left to check on him. They said that you can probably see him tomorrow morning, which is in,” she checked the time, “About four hours.”
“You should eat and rest,” Allura suggested softly. “If you’re exhausted and upset when you see him, it could make things worse.”
Keith knew she was right, but it didn’t make it better. He wanted his mate, his Alpha. He’d had to watch when he was shot, when he fell to the floor, had to watch as his beloved Alpha desperately clung to life. He wanted them to curl up in their nest together, safe in each other’s arms. The memories caused another distressed sound, this one harsher, even more shrill than before. The pack snapped to look at him, knowing that if Keith got any more worked up, he could go feral. It was a state more closely associated with Alphas, but it was certainly possible for Omegas. The kind of trauma he’d experienced that day combined with being separated from his mate was making things dangerous for him. Pidge dropped what she was doing, climbing into the nest. She was a packmate and therefore safe, but she was about as far removed from anything like Lance as possible and, therefore, was the safest person to be close to Keith. He curled up, still upset, but allowed her to hold him, reinforcing that he was safe.
It didn’t take long for him to fall asleep again.
He was woken next by Pidge gently shaking him, breakfast in hand. He accepted it, a soft sound escaping, his Omega brain still in control. After breakfast, that Pidge actually joined him in his nest for, she called for a medic, who came in and checked Keith over, clearing him for release. Pidge stuck close to him, going along to the next floor where Lance was still under medics’ care. But he was awake, and Keith darted inside, Pidge staying by the door.
The Omega curled up on his mate’s bed, softly nuzzling him. Lance ran his fingers through his mate’s hair, a large medical patch monitoring his biorhythms across the back of his hand. After a few minutes when Keith still hadn’t said anything he looked to Pidge, concern and confusion written across his face.
“He nearly went feral last night. Hasn’t spoken a word since then,” she explained.
The medics tried to make Keith leave when they were alerted to Lance’s shifts in his system caused by the sudden fear for his mate, but the Alpha insisted on his Omega staying. Pidge left, knowing Alpha-Omega mate-pairs in general and her packmates in particular. She knew how important their connection was and that if they were separated both would most likely turn feral, attacking anyone who got too close that wasn’t their mate. Shiro and Allura stood guard over the room from the outside, preventing anyone from entering they didn’t approve. One nurse claimed that she was just there to check up on Lance, but her scent told them she was lying and that she was most likely there to try and separate the pair again. Shiro’s tall, broad frame firmly kept her out. Pidge and Hunk had brought the nesting materials from both Keith’s hospital room and their own apartment in the Castle. Lance’s biorhythm readings were calmer than the medics had seen, and they stopped bothering him and his mate.
It wasn’t until the end of the day when Keith finally spoke for the first time. “I thought I’d lost you.”
“For a while, so did I,” Lance admitted, “But you got me out in time. You saved me, mi amor. We’re ok.”
Curled up in their temporary nest, wrapped in his Alpha’s arms, long, elegant fingers carding through his hair, Keith was able to sleep peacefully for the first time since the start of the mission.

Kaz had panicked when they started going to fast in the boat, they all looked shocked as Y/N was just pushing them, moving so fast in the water. Then he felt the boat falter for just a moment and blood was moving behind her legs in the water.  A bullet must have hit her and for whatever reason Kaz felt his heart was in his throat, worried she might stop and they would all be killed, worried that she was going to die.  He wasn’t sure at what point in this little jaunt he had really gotten attached to Lady Heartless but now he was.  They had always been friendly, even as rivals, but he never felt worried about her.
Just after he was made captain of the Crow their small crew needed money to get more hands on deck so they had decided to hit up a small navy treasury on Port Du Nonce.  They noticed another ship was there, a pleasure vessel that they ignored, assuming it was just for the men.  They were even excited, hopefully most of the guards would have abandoned their posts to go party for the night.  They were shocked to find the guards dead, all of them.  Inside the treasury was a small group of young women, putting the money and gold bullion into bags and barrels.
“Can we help you gentlemen?” one of the women, the oldest of the group asked, holding her machete casually at her side, a pistol poised in her other hand. Kaz had considered his options, there were more of her crew than theirs, the odds were not good.
“Who are you?” he asked, glaring.  He had wanted to make a striking first impression on his first job but clearly this would not be happening.
“I am…” the woman paused as if no one had asked her that before.  “Lady Heartless.”  Kaz had laughed at that.  What a dumb name.  “Have you come to steal our treasure?”
“No, we came to steal Pekka Rollins treasure, but it appears you’ve done that already,” he said.  He didn’t know the moment it happened but something shifted then, maybe it was something he said or did but she put her weapons away and snapped her fingers.
“Come on ladies, we have enough treasure, let’s leave the rest for the boys here,” she said.  The girls just nodded and grabbed onto what they were carrying.  She picked up a couple full bags of her own.  “There, now we each have some treasure to get our pirate careers going.  Take this half and stay out of my life, I’ve already had my life ruined once I don’t want it happening again.”  Kaz had watched her walk away and in that moment decided he was going to mess with her, fuck up every heist she tried to do if he could, generosity was a weakness he would exploit at every turn.
At first that’s what he did, he would do any job that he thought she might be at, noticing her pattern of only attacking pleasure vessels or navy treasuries or mining sights, anything that Rollins had a hand in.  His uncle must have done whatever she had said had ruined her life. They met often at first and finally she had gotten tired of him.
“You are ruining my life,” she one night when she had just finished kicking his ass and taking a job out from under him, something he normally did to her. “Now, stay down and don’t make me shoot you.  You’re a boy trying to be a man, grow up a little bit before you try crossing me again.”
“I’m not here to ruin your life, only fuck up your night,” he said, moving to stand.  She sighed and shook her head.
“I really didn’t want to do this,” she muttered.  He lunged for her, ready to take her out with his cane, when she shot him.  It only grazed him really but it was the first time he had been shot and instead of pushing through it and attacking he just grabbed her sleeve, pulling it down and seeing the scarring on her chest.  It was then, as he lay bleeding, that he put together who she was.
“Wait…” he had called but she kept walking, yelling for his crewmates to come retrieve him before leaving him there.
Kaz touched the scar on his side from her shooting him as he cleaned up from their job.  She had been taken to his medic’s room to be looked at and he had sent the others to clean up.  The ship was in a state of paused motion right now, everything seeming slow as they waited to hear about the other captain.  He knew that the others had questions, but it wasn’t his place to answer them.  He had left them waiting for word on her while he changed and wiped off the blood. He had already been sick from what had been happening but seeing her carried below, pale and mumbling incoherently had made it worse.  He couldn’t stomach going to see her while she was worked on so instead he decided to go through the bag she had retrieved.
He hid the will and all of Rollins’s identification papers, knowing that the crew did not need to know about any of that.  He counted the heaps of money and bonds finding that there more than he thought before.  This was enough for both ships to function for a year without needing to do another job. He set them aside and started to pour through the business documents, wanting to see what was going on amongst the islands.  He froze when he found a parchment that held plans for harnessing the power of a sea witch to destroy the reef and open them back up to the world again.  That would be a problem.  More access meant more pirates, more competition.  Kaz clenched his jaw, he didn’t like the sound of this. He slid that paper aside to show Y/N later, if she survived.  He was just finishing a rather boring stacks of documents when Jesper came in without knocking.
“Didn’t I tell you next time you came in unannounced you would lose a finger?” Kaz asked, looking up from the parchment.  Jesper took a step back out the door and knocked on it.  Kaz nodded, not really wanting to get more blood on him tonight anyway.
“I just wanted to let you know that Y/N is ok, awake, the medic gave her a crutch to use and why the hell didn’t anyone tell us she could do that? What is she?” Jesper asked.  Kaz glared at him.  “You know what, I will just go and ask her, um, goodnight.”  He closed the door in a hurry.  Kaz let out a breath of relief and sat back, a small smile coming to his face.
Y/N woke up, sitting up quick and gripping her head.  It ached like someone had hit her with a hammer.  She looked around the small cabin, slowly figuring out that it was the medic’s room.  She looked at her leg, seeing her pantleg pushed up to her knee, a bandage wrapped around it.  There was a crutch leaning on the bed.  She gingerly swung her legs over the side and stood, leaning on the crutch.  She remembered swimming and the pain, she must have been shot during the escape.  She needed to get some seawater and kelp, that should help her heal faster. She pushed open the door of the cabin and walked out.  Inej and Nina were waiting for her.
“Let us help you,” Nina said, offering her arm.   Y/N took it gratefully and walked to the steps.  “What do you need?”
“Find out if they have any kelp and seawater aboard, I don’t think I can swim enough to get it myself, it’ll help me heal up faster,” she said.  Inej nodded and went off to do as asked.  “When she gets back I’ll explain everything.” Nina smiled.
“Its ok, we kind of figured you were a mermaid with the whole finding you in the jungle thing, and you know not aging for 5 years,” she said.   Y/N laughed a little, feeling a great fondness for her ladies.  She wished she could love them, she really did.
“Yes, but I didn’t tell you everything and you should know, I mean, I’m sure you’ve pieced together parts of my story, but I should tell you both all of it,” she said.  Nina got her above deck and sat her on a bench near the side of the ship.  She stretched out her leg and saw the rest of the crew eyeing her.  Ah, so everyone knew there was mermaid aboard now, great.  Inej soon came back with some kelp and fresh seawater.
“Captain Kaz told them to get it after he knew you survived,” she said. Y/N raised an eyebrow but just nodded, taking the kelp and dipping it in seawater.  “Nina, remove the bandage please.”  Nina did as asked, her fingers quick and concise.  Once removed Y/N handed her the kelp.  “Now wrap that like a bandage.”  Once again the girl did as asked before sitting back.
“How does that help?” Nina asked.
“Mermaids get their abilities from the water, we are born into it and we spend our lives taking care of it and the creatures in it so it in turn takes care of us.  I’m sure you saw me swimming, it gives us some extra strength and speed in the water and also can help us heal quickly.  That wound should be gone in a couple days.  Send word to the Menagerie to meet us at the rendezvous point at Pirate Island,” she said.  Inej ran off to do that.  Jesper, Matthias, and Wylan joined them soon, offering their regards and telling her they were happy she was alive.  She looked at the stern and saw Kaz watching her.  He didn’t approach so she just nodded to him and he nodded back to her.
During the voyage to Pirate Island, the farthest island from Argoes, Y/N slept a lot in Kaz’s room, healing up.  Kaz avoided his room mostly, only sleeping in short bursts so that he could not be around her.  She looked dead still when she slept and he couldn’t handle it.  After Jordie he couldn’t handle someone else he cared about being hurt like this.  He scowled at himself.  Admitting he cared for Y/N just annoyed him, he already cared too much about other people and its not like she could ever really care about him.  She could like him enough to not want him to die, but actually care?  Never.
He hadn’t meant to be in the room when she woke up but here she was, just a few hours before they would be getting to their destination, sitting up, looking much better, eyes finally focused and sharp again.  Kaz had been coming in to change his shirt but stopped, trying to close the door again but she had seen him.
“Kaz Brekker get in here and acknowledge that I’m alive,” she demanded. He groaned internally.  This fucking woman.  He entered, glaring at her.  “Don’t be like you’re happy I’m still breathing.”  He dropped the glare but still didn’t look pleased.
“What do you want?  Aren’t you still resting?” he asked, leaning to his cane.  She leaned down and peeled the kelp from her leg, showing him a scar where the wound had been.  “Miracles seem to happen every day for you it seems.”
“Not the day I met you cranky,” she grumbled.  This brought out the glare again.  “Why have you been avoiding me?  We should be talking about what we found from Rollins’s desk and how to divvy up the cash.”  Kaz didn’t want to answer her question so he avoided it.
“There’s enough in there for each of us to live a year without actually pirating,” Kaz said.  Y/N’s face broke out in a grin that rivaled the sun.  “We can do the official split after the party.”
“Party?” she asked.  Kaz was throwing a party?
“It’s the biggest bounty we’ve had in years, the men want to have a party. They also wanted me to ask for your ladies to join if they want,” he said.
“Yes of course as long as they behave, anyone giving trouble will have body parts removed,” Y/N said.  Kaz agreed to her stipulations before moving on to the next issue.
“We have a problem, Rollins has plans to harness a sea witch’s power to try and break the reef again,” he said.  Her eyes widened.  “More access to these islands means more competition for us, less loot to go around.”
“It would mean that Rollins would get unlimited power too, if the sea witch’s power is strong enough to break the reef it could possibly be strong enough to do much more to the rest of the world,” she said.  Kaz looked at her surprised, having not thought about that.
“What would give a sea witch that kind of power?” he asked although he was pretty sure he already knew.
“The heart of a rare tail mermaid,” she answered.  “Well, we have the plans, is there a map?”
“Yes, to a spot near Argoes.”
“Horus’s home, they probably don’t know how to summon them, shit, now that Rollins knows I’m alive he’ll probably try to find me.  Fuck, I’m going to have to abandon the Menagerie until this is over, I can’t put those woman at risk over my own stupidity,” she said, throwing the useless kelp across the room.  “He knows I’m alive, he knows I know how to summon a sea witch.  I’m sorry Kaz, me just being here is going to put you in danger…”
“I’m not worried about that, I’m worried about how we’re getting you to this Horus’s home to summon them,” he said.  She snorted a laugh.
“You think that I’m just going to waltz in there and somehow get their power? They wear their power in a crystal around their neck, it would take a master thief or magician…”
“Good think I’m both of those things,” Kaz said.  She looked at him.
“When do we tell the crew?” she asked.
“After the party, let them have some fun before we start putting their lives in danger again,” he said.   Y/N nodded. “Will you…join me at the party?”
“Are you asking me on a date Kaz Brekker?” she asked, hoping she didn’t bely how pleasing the idea was.  Kaz smirked and shook his head.
“No, I just know everyone would like to see you there looking healthy after you almost died on us,” he said.  “Morale booster and all.”   Y/N looked at him and smiled, he was telling her half of the truth.
“Admit it, you just are too nervous to ask me on a date.”
“Would you even say yes if I did?”
“Ask and you’ll find out.”  Kaz opened his mouth to speak but they heard the call for land above them so instead he stood and headed out the door.  Y/N smiled after him and for the first time she felt a pang of something new in her soul, she couldn’t identify it but it was something that only Kaz seemed to bring out in her.

Something was tugging you from sleep.
Softly, though, so you didn’t notice until it was already too late, and your senses were with you all at once. In one last protest against the waking world, you didn’t open your eyes, stubbornly lying there instead, your back to the side of the bed Taehyung used. Then the same something that had woken you up started again.
He was singing.
That was all it took, and your eyes were open, body stiffening. Taehyung, however, noticed nothing. His song continued, one you had never heard before, and his voice was beautifully soft and smooth, expressive even at such a low volume. Clearly he had been hoping not to wake you up.
Swallowing, you forced your eyes to fall closed again. After the initial shock, you soon found it easy to relax to his calming melody, the duvet and pillow enveloping you in combination with his voice. And despite the warmth in your little bubble under the covers, goosebumps rose along your arms.
You really couldn’t get your head round Taehyung.
Though you had seen him being silly, all that time at college you had spent at a distance from him, he had seemed cold, intimidating. It had been a shock to you when he had been so amicable those months ago, and that soon became the Taehyung you knew, but he was still a mystery… His singing had really thrown you for a loop, another puzzle piece thrown in amongst the jumble you were already trying to make sense of when it came to this boy.
All day, you couldn’t get his song out of your head. Specifically, his voice.
His voice. Singing his song.
Him, him, him.
Last night he had mentioned that the books he had brought you were some of his favourites. Another surprise: who would have known that Kim Taehyung, the king of bad reputation, had a hidden love of fashion, an inner art connoisseur?
Now the books meant something different.
You read them even quicker after that, drinking in every word as if there were a drought.
Perhaps there was.
When you finished the last one in the stack, you were instantly back to the real world within four walls. It was only morning as well, judging by the light. Brilliant. One whole day and nothing to do.

“Y/N!”
Obnoxious footfalls. Taehyung was taking the stairs two at a time.
The bedroom door swung open to a slightly breathless Taehyung, leaning his weight against the door handle he had yet to let go of.
“Sorry it’s so late. You okay?”
You were lying across the bed’s width, head falling over the end nearest him, hair brushing the floor.
“Yep. Do you want me to cook?”
He only frowned down at you for a second longer before continuing as if one member of the conversation wasn’t upside down.
“Ah, no. I didn’t get any food.”
“But we basically ran out yesterday,” you frowned.
“I know,” he said, “but today we are going to the food.”
Now that made you sit up.
“What?”
“Yep,” a proud smile made its way onto his face and he straightened up, “we’re going out.”
When your only response was a wide-eyed stare, he took it as his cue to elaborate.
“I know you’ve been going a little crazy inside, so I thought we could go for an adventure. Hobi’s racing tonight and he says we can join him.”
“Hoseok?” you questioned.
“Yeah. Sound good?”
It did. You knew it shouldn’t. You weren’t naïve – you knew what he meant by racing. Idiots breaking every road law possible for clout, or maybe money. It was precisely what you had always stayed away from.
But it sounded so good.
“Sounds perfect,” you grinned.
First, Taehyung helped you find the pair of his jeans you were most likely to fit into; since you had been at his, you had mainly worn sweats for comfort’s sake, but this occasion called for a change. Wearing a hoodie was non-negotiable though, to hide your face.
After rolling up the hem of his black jeans, you slung on the most nondescript hoodie he had. Shoes, however, were more of an issue, so Taehyung vowed to buy you some once you were out. Also wearing black, Taehyung looked much more stylish than you in cargo pants, a bomber jacket and a bandana.
“Did you take your painkiller?” was the last thing on the list before finally leaving, via the side door.
Night had descended completely by now, putting you more at ease. You walked far away from streetlights when you could, but as you drew closer to the city centre, that was the last thing on your mind.
Being outside was just what you needed. You breathed in the cold air and drizzle on your face, eyes following each car that whirred past and people’s boots splashing in puddles of melted neon. And what made it all the more thrilling was the knowledge that you were taking a risk.
So far, you had been clumsily walking around in Tae’s sliders, until suddenly a man came barging past you on the sidewalk. In your dash to dodge him, you tripped over the too-big shoes, barrelling straight into Taehyung’s stomach where his arms steadied you.
You barely had a chance to straighten before Tae had turned around, bent down and grabbed the backs of your knees, forcing you to fling your arms around his neck, shrieking as he hoisted you onto his back. Grinning while you complained into the back of his neck, he carried on, but soon he was dragging you into a store that was still open – though not for long – and you grabbed the cheapest sneakers going.
With that problem solved, food was the next priority. In the end, you chose a street vendor and headed to your rendezvous with steaming bags in hand.
Not far from the centre, once you wound through the smallest streets enclosed by the tallest buildings, you emerged onto a car park. It wasn’t as secluded as you had expected for underground racing, still lit up in colours by the signs of shops that backed onto it, the entrance opening onto a wide road.
Cars were lined up, one pulling up at the same time as you and Taehyung. None were flashy sports cars: instead the line-up came in various states of repair, altered by their owners with darkened windows, underglow, stickers, spoilers, you name it.
“Hoseok!”
Beside you, Taehyung shouted across the car park, waving an arm above his head. Then his hand wrapped around your wrist and he lead you through the thin crowd over to the older bangtan boy, who pulled his friend in and clapped him on the back.
Hoseok joined the two of you as you sat on the wall to eat, watching as the first few people showed off their wheel spins and donuts, revving engines mixing with whoops and yells from the spectators. Most were dressed in black like you. A handful of people came up to chat with the boys, with ‘haven’t seen you in a while’-s to Taehyung and offers of bets for Hoseok. Keeping your head well down, you just enjoyed your food, silently taking in the new environment.
The night had cleared up, the asphalt still shining from the earlier drizzle, but the puddles now lay still as glass.
Plenty of people had bottles in their hands, sitting around on the perimeter walls. In the opposite corner, those with hidden faces crowded together, almost hiding the exchange in their hands. Others sat on their bonnets, proudly talking to the interested huddle gathered around them.
“Right, I’m gonna get warmed up,” Hoseok dropped down from the wall and departed with one last wave to your well wishes.
As Hoseok pulled his car out of its spot, more followed. Rolling down his window, he rested his arm casually against the side as he guided his car round, revving here and there to elicit hollers from the crowd.
Laughing in the driver’s seat, he hit the gas, putting on a spurt of speed and skidding round in a perfect one-eighty. A cloud was thrown up by his back tyres, glittering as the droplets fell back down.
By now, you had finished eating and were anticipating some action. The buzz among the spectators grew more as each driver messed about in the parking lot, until at last they were filing out, lining the empty road along an imaginary starting line.
“Can we go closer?” you asked Taehyung as people gravitated towards the roadside, disturbing your view.
A smile bloomed on his face and he jumped down, ditching his takeaway.
“Sure.”
Weaving in and out of the rabble to reach the front, you stood on your tiptoes to spot Hoseok’s car in the middle of the line. Taehyung stood just behind you, already speaking to someone. From your left side, a taller girl pushed past you, striding right up to the curb.
In a ripple, the pack quietened. The girl raised her hand – was that a gun? – and a bang sounded, drowned out instantaneously by the squealing of tyres and growling of engines. Within seconds, the cars had sped out of sight.
“How long is the race?” you turned to Taehyung, whose acquaintance had walked away again.
“That depends how fast Hoseok decides to go,” he murmured back, perching on the wall behind him and kicking his legs out, “they’re on one of the city circuits, main roads, so it’s just about acceleration.”
Nodding in what you hoped was a casual manner, you returned your eyes to the deserted road.
“So he’s good then, Hoseok?”
You hopped up onto the wall beside Taehyung, but it wasn’t his voice that replied.
“Oh, he’s the best.”
Your head snapped around, leaving you face to face with Yoongi. Leaning against the end of the wall, smoke swirling up from a glowing cigarette end in his hand, he looked right at home. How long had he been standing there?
“I heard you were here,” he directed a rare smile past you to Taehyung, “everyone’s wondering if you’re gonna go for a spin.”
“It’s been a long time,” Taehyung chuckled.
“Beck’s next up,” he said, as if that was meant to mean something. Based on Taehyung’s reaction, it probably did.
Shaking his head, he laughed, then bit down on his lip, still smiling, and stared into his lap.
“I’ll think about it, okay?”
“Well you won’t have long,” Yoongi crushed his cigarette against the wall, chucking it carelessly to the ground. Sure enough, the screech of tyres and distant rumble of engines were once again becoming audible.
As Yoongi melted away into the crowd again, the sounds grew and you stood up again, craning your neck to see as far down the road as you could. Only seconds later, a pair of headlights blazed around the corner, drawing a line down your vision as the car flew towards you, followed by a tight group of others.
Stepping back, you watched as the first place car whizzed by, blowing your hair back and off your face, the rest piling across the line in a photo-finish a few seconds later.
While the cars slowed, drifting round to return to the car park and the assembled cheering crowd, an elbow nudged your arm.
“Do you fancy a ride?”
Your eyes slid between Taehyung and the cars re-entering the lot, quickly encircled by people.
What the hell were you thinking? Why were you even considering saying yes? This was crazy-
“Okay!”
Taehyung held you in front of him, shielding you as together you cut a path through the excited mass towards the victor of the last race. Hoseok was grinning from ear to ear, arms in the air, high-fiving people and showing off energetic dance moves in exchange for laughter and pats on the back.
Once again, Taehyung clapped his shoulder, this time leaning in to make his request. Hanging back, you were invisible in the crowd, your face obscured.
“Hey, everyone!” Hoseok shouted, causing a hush, “Taehyungie’s gonna do the next one!”
Cheers and excited applause erupted as Hoseok lifted Tae’s hand in the air. The older boy jumped around while Taehyung laughed, and before long the other drivers were back in their cars. Returning to the roadside, the crowd left you behind.
“Hop in,” Taehyung told you, making his way to the driver’s side.
Though not top-end, Hoseok’s car was not inexpensive. You slid into the leather seat and buckled up, Tae doing the same before gripping the wheel and getting it moving, out and onto the road.
“So where are we going?” you eyed the rabble from your window as you passed them, low rumble of the engine almost teasing given what was to come.
“Beck,” Taehyung replied, pulling into position, one hand staying loosely on the wheel, “it’s what we call one of the courses round the back alleys down by Beck square, and it’s sort of my speciality.”
You nodded, eyes falling back onto the wide open road in front of you. A few cars over, you saw the girl from before standing on the curb.
“You ready?”
A deep breath in.
“Yeah,” you smiled.
Bang.
Outside, the crowd blurred and disappeared, lights whipping past your window as you were forced back in your seat with the sudden speed.
Other cars encroached either side, penning you in but Taehyung kept his eyes ahead, locking the wheel all the way right to take you barrelling into a smaller road, with only one car ahead of you. At the back windscreen, purple headlights were bearing down on you, so close it was like a demon staring into the car.
Weaving, left, right, your car thundered after the red one ahead of you, but the gap only increased.
Snarling behind you, engine nearly as loud as your own, your main pursuer was on top of you. As you spilled out onto a wider road, it was gaining, crawling up your side.
With a glint in his eye, Taehyung took one look at the competitor, one glance to where the red car was turning the next corner some way ahead, and pulled the wheel.
Staring straight ahead, wheel at arm’s length, Taehyung pushed the car, the roaring engine riding a deafening crescendo as you powered ahead through the deserted alley he had taken you down. You winced as he rapidly squeezed past some industrial bins lining the wall, only grazing one with slight jolt – then it was a clear road to the growing exit.
Your car fired from the shortcut like a cannonball, Taehyung wrestling the wheel to bring the back tyres under control as you turned right, finding yourselves neck-and-neck with the red car from earlier.
Next, a drawn-out corner, and that was all Taehyung needed to pull away, expertly drifting around before flattening his foot to the ground, plunging into the darkest alley yet, lit only by your headlamps. But once you emerged, the wider road was back, shop signs and streetlights blurring outside.
Taking a glance behind, the red car was nowhere to be seen.
A laugh bubbled up from your throat as you fell back in your seat, exhilarated. And then there was the crowd, watching and waiting by the parking lot – you had won!
“Fuck me,” you breathed as Taehyung relaxed beside you, casually braking into a drift to turn around.
A hearty laugh returned from him as he pulled into the car park, soon getting swarmed. Exiting the car, you were both engulfed in the clamouring mass, though you managed to slip away to the midst of it. Everyone was the most interested in Taehyung.
At last, most had dispersed and only Hoseok and Yoongi were left congratulating Taehyung with hugs.
“Fun, right?” Hoseok smiled at you, inviting you into their conversation.
“Yeah.” Breathless as if you had just run the course, you laughed with them.
“Good job, you haven’t lost your touch,” Yoongi affirmed again as Hoseok left you to drive again.
By the sounds of it, the next race was a longer one. Bets had been made and you all held your breath as the cars lined up again. The starting gun did nothing to help your heart calm down after the adrenaline rush of Taehyung’s race, but you weren’t complaining. His face wore a similar joy to yours, the two of you happily sitting back after Yoongi left and laughing about the thrill of his driving.
“I dunno if I would have got away so well on the corner if Hoseok’s car wasn’t so good though-“
“Hey! Don’t downplay it, your driving was insane!”
“Maybe it was insane,” he looked down, bashful, but soon smiled back and shook his finger at you, “so don’t try this at home!”
But your laughter at his joke was interrupted.
Sailing over the buildings came the high-pitched wail of a siren. The group quietened. Listening. Perhaps it was unrelated?
A couple of people walked into the road, looking around to see if the vehicle was coming your way. It was definitely getting too close for comfort.
Taehyung stood, hand wrapping round your upper arm and lightly pulling you away from the front of the crowd, though both of you still stared at the road, hoping the sound would shrink again, pass you by.
Blue flashed against the rain-slick road, illuminating dark windows at the end of the street.
Bad luck.
“Run!”
Those who were standing in the road took off across it, away from the car park, while some scattered back to where they came from. The few cars left standing in the parking lot were starting up, leaving by the alleys. And in the middle of the crowd, you and Taehyung started running.
In seconds the parking lot had emptied, and now you were alone with Taehyung as other members of the party vaulted walls away from the sirens and shouting police officers, the slamming of car doors as they gave chase.
Air rushed in and out of your lungs as your feet pounded after Taehyung, going as fast as you could but still falling behind. Dark buildings either side of you were painted in blue as light fell down the alleyway from the cars that had scattered you. Up ahead, Taehyung rounded a corner, but it was lost in darkness and you weren’t sure which one he had gone down.
You didn’t stop running.
“Stop there! Police!”
A woman yelled from the other end of the street, making you push yourself harder.
Just then, Taehyung skidded back around the corner you had just reached and grabbed your hand before you could think, and now he was pulling you away, taking turn after turn through dark streets you had never seen before. Stumbling after him, you clutched his hand, your lifeline.
You must have lost them by now. No blue lights could be seen, no sirens or shouts heard, no other footsteps but your own.
You hoped you had lost them by now. Your heart was beating out of your chest and your head spun, lungs failing to cooperate, evicting air in heavy bursts, taking it in too slow. In your side, the pain couldn’t be masked by the painkiller anymore, pinching mercilessly with every step.
You had to slow down.
Legs failing you, you finally gave in to stopping.
The sudden tug and then loss of your hand in his made Taehyung turn around, finding you doubled over, panting and pale in the face. Eyes scanning the street beyond you for danger, he moved forwards, hands gripping your arms.
“Hey, Y/N, can you keep going?”
Only your hyperventilating answered him.
“Y/N? Can you hear me?”
Trying to pull you up to look at him, he was only met with your body going heavier in his arms, forcing him to scramble to wrap his arms around your back as you went limp.
Cursing, he lowered you to the ground but didn’t let go. Not taking his eyes off your face, he caught the moment your eyes opened again once you were leant against the wall.
A short breath escaped him, tongue darting out to wet his lips.
“Y/N? Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” you managed, breathing more even now, “my side…”
“It’s alright, you can rest for a bit,” he assured you, finally releasing you and sitting back on his heels.
One more check up and down the alley.
“Were we seriously just running from police?” you laughed slightly, bringing his attention back to you.
“First time for everything,” he mused, sitting down beside you.
“I guess,” you chuckled, still a little breathless, “so is the racing over?”
“For tonight. It gets busted occasionally, so when the others get back and see everyone’s gone they’ll know what happened.”
“Is Hoseok going to get arrested?”
“Shouldn’t do. He’s had plenty of practice evading cops.”
Nodding, your eyes returned to the ground. It was easy to forget how much experience Taehyung and the other bangtan boys had in all this; you were just here for the ride.
“You had your painkiller, right?” Taehyung broke the brief silence.
“Yeah, I did,” you quickly confirmed, “and I feel better now, I just, I dunno what happened…”
“And your iron pill?”
“Hmm? Oh, the red ones… no, I-I don’t think so.”
He clicked his tongue.
“That’ll be it then. You’re taking one as soon as we get home.”
Despite feeling a little like you were being scolded, you smiled, about to respond when a scuffle from the end of the street made you both turn your heads.
As you watched the dimly lit space, a silhouette ran past in a blur, followed by a slower figure, wearing an unmistakeable bulky police vest. They jogged past the opening to your street, but soon their outline reappeared, empty handed.
Breath catching in your throat, you went obligingly with Taehyung as he stood silently, his arm guiding you behind him without taking his eyes off the cop. As quickly as you dared, you both retreated, wincing at each slight crunch beneath your feet. In the silence, the crackling of a police radio, though incomprehensible, was clearly heard, and the officer mumbled back into it.
Spying an opening to hide you from view, you gathered this was your target. Holding your breath, you approached it, swinging around the corner at the first opportunity with only one glance back.
One glance that showed the cop’s head turning towards you.
This alley was much smaller than the other, and you found yourself facing Taehyung in much the same way you had in his hallway when you first came barging into his life. Searching his face, you wondered if he had seen what you did just now.
“Tae-“
His lips formed around a shushing sound that barely left his mouth, and in one small step, he was up against you, a finger steady on your lips to silence you. All you could do was hold your tongue and stare as he looked past you, tentatively dipping his head out of your hiding spot, never lowering his finger.
“They’re gone,” he spoke, voice still impossibly low.
Swallowing, you removed your eyes from his face, glancing up the alley you were now on. It was a dead end, home only to a large dumpster surrounded by smashed glass and needles. You couldn’t leave this way, which would explain why you needed to wait here, in case the cop was still close by.
What it didn’t explain was why Taehyung was still so close to you.
Although his hand had now lowered, you could feel his body heat from this proximity. The zip of his undone jacket brushed against the front of your hoodie.
Your tongue ran across your lips. Eyes finally diverted from the potential dangers outside, Taehyung was now looking at you.
“Uh…” you cleared your throat, regretting opening your mouth. You had no idea what you had planned to say.
Luckily, you were startled from the situation as a chiming ringtone broke through the moment.
Scrambling to scoop his phone from his pocket and answer it, Taehyung stumbled back, eyeing the alleyway outside in a panic. Thankfully, no one had heard. Better get moving.
“Hello?”
Not even getting a look at the caller in his rush to pick it up, Jungkook’s voice answering him was a relief.
Mindlessly grabbing your hand in his, Taehyung started walking with you beside him as he listened to the younger member. As you passed through the end of the street, he took a look both ways before leading you the opposite way to that the police officer had taken.
Holding Kim Taehyung’s hand was something you had never seen coming. But here you were.
You didn’t complain though. His grip was firm, comfortable, and walking with him this way felt… normal. How that was even possible, you didn’t know, and you blamed it on your lingering light-headedness – of course you would want to feel grounded.
But somehow, far away from all you knew in backstreets you had never seen before, after a very illegal night, with a gang member talking in serious tones over the phone next to you, you felt perfectly at home.
“Cheers, Kook. Night.”
Taehyung shut off the call, tucking his phone back into his pocket. By now you had reached more well-lit roads that you imagined would be busy by day. Now, of course, you were the only ones here. God knew what time it was.
The only light brighter than the streetlamps was the interior of a 24-hour convenience store, a good indication that it was by no means a civilised hour. Still without letting your hand go, Taehyung led you inside.
Standing in front of the wall of fizzy drinks, he ordered you to pick one before swiping a packet of crisps and a chocolate bar. The teenage cashier didn’t look you in the eye once as he rung you up, and then you were on your way. Only now did Taehyung drop your hand, passing you the chocolate with a command to get your sugar up and himself tearing into the crisps.
When you had worked through the first row, he spoke up.
“Jungkook was on the phone about your dad.”
“O-oh,” you stuttered, having just put another square in your mouth.
“Well he’s okay. He hasn’t been hurt, but as you know, Shinhyuk’s forced him to hand over your apartment for the gang to use. He’s forcing him to work for him, full-time, with the threat of harm to you if he doesn’t… Apparently he was accused of stealing drugs from a deal and that warrants all this – though it’s probably baseless. Shinhyuk had his eyes on your place already.”
You watched your feet as you listened. It had been easy to put your dad out of your mind for the sake of your sanity, the not knowing taking you round in circles, but hearing that he was still alive took a weight from you.
“I’m sorry,” Taehyung said, greeted with your silence, “we’re fighting against Shinhyuk, and we’ll try to help him. Try not to worry about him losing his job, I mean-“
“Worry?” you looked up at him, “He’s alive! There’s nothing to be sorry for! Can you thank Jungkook for finding this out?”
A small, relieved smile crossed Taehyung’s face.
“Course I can,” he grinned, then held out your Fanta, “now don’t forget about your sugar.”
After this, the walk home was surprisingly short. Given how lost you were, you had thought you were half the city away, but in next to no time you turned onto recognisable streets. Strolling through the dark eating sugary snacks, it felt as if you were coming home from the movies, or any venture more innocent than your night of racing.
As the pair of you were climbing Tae’s front steps, he offered to make tea to warm up. Needless to say, you were fully on board with the idea.
He set to work, the kitchen lit dimly by lights tucked underneath the cupboards.
However, leaning against the wall waiting for the water to boil, you began to feel just how tired you were, both physically and mentally. But you could sleep later: you didn’t want the night to end yet. Deciding on a middle ground, you gave in to sliding down the wall, seating yourself on the floor. Not a move you would have chosen at your most alert moments, but it couldn’t be helped.
At your downwards movement, Taehyung spun around, dropping the teaspoon with a clatter.
But then he saw you staring back at him in bewilderment, and his eyes closed as he huffed in equal parts relief and frustration.
“God, I thought you were passing out again,” he grumbled.
Soon the bag of red pills landed in front of you on the tile. Sheepishly smiling, you gulped one down, and then a mug of tea filled its space.
“Oh, we don’t have to stay here,” you frowned at Tae as he sat down opposite you on the kitchen floor, leaning his back against the cupboards as he cradled his tea.
“Nah, it’s a unique perspective,” he said, “I’ve never sat here before and it’s my house.”
“Yeah, I’m sure your kitchen looks super different from down here,” a smile threatened to break your baffled frown, though you did pick up your mug, breathing in the inviting steam rising from it.
“So was tonight okay?” Taehyung smiled over his mug, eyes creasing a little as they watched for your answer.
“Mmm, yeah,” you swallowed your first sip of tea, “I’ve never… done anything like that before. But I thought it was really exciting! Hoseok is so nice too, letting you drive his car.”
Tae let out a short laugh, eyes disappearing for a moment.
“I practically learnt to drive in Hobi’s cars.”
“Wait, cars? As in, cars, plural?”
“Yeah,” his wide grin stayed on his face, both rows of his teeth visible in the low light, “tonight was just small races, he didn’t get out the big guns. You should see his Bugatti.”
Your eyes bulged from your head.
“I’m not even going to ask where he got the money for that,” you mumbled, still in awe.
“He didn’t,” Taehyung smirked. Rolling your eyes, you breathed a laugh, soon diving back into your tea.
“Was it alright with Yoongi there?” he asked next. His eyes were wider now, curious, smile dimming, “I know he hasn’t exactly been…”
“No, it was fine,” you assured, “I get that he doesn’t like me, but he seems to tolerate me now, so I won’t push him.”
“He did sort of beat you up before, though,” Tae pointed out.
“I nearly beat him up back!” you joked, admittedly motivated by genuine defensiveness, “I could have handed his ass to him any time I pleased, but I chose to give you the satisfaction of saving me instead.”
Taehyung responded by snorting into his tea.
“You are so rude,” you tipped your foot over to playfully kick his thigh as you both laughed.
“Honestly, I’m glad you’re not too bothered by Yoongi,” Taehyung said once the laughter had passed, though his smile still lingered, “he looks so tough, but he’s a massive softie really.”
You simply raised your eyebrows.
“You’ll see,” he smirked.
“I’ll wait,” you scoffed, “although I don’t find him scary exactly… he sort of reminds me of that evil magician from Archie-wizz- did you watch that?”
“Yes! I used to watch that every day after school!”
“Yeah, so you know the one I’m on about, right? He was always lurking around corners, like, the camera would turn around and there he was, like he’d been there the whole time. That’s Yoongi!”
Tae barked a disbelieving laugh.
“You mean Count E. Vil? Yoongi would flip shit if he heard you compared him to a cartoon.”
“Count E. Vil? That was his name?”
“Yeah, and every time he appeared, Archie was like ‘didn’t see ya there!’”
“Yeah, yeah it is that one,” you laughed at the memory, “was that seriously his name? I must have forgotten.”
“You know, the more I think about, the more I can see it,” Taehyung was laughing too, “you just turn around and he’s like – bam – looking all cool…”
Taehyung schooled his face into a death stare just like Yoongi’s to demonstrate, making you crack up even more. He didn’t last long before the act broke down, laughter creeping into his poker mouth and now the both of you were bent over your knees with tears in your eyes, wheezing with the kind of infectious laughter that is most at home after lights out at a sleepover.
“Not a word of this to Yoongi, understand,” Tae joked when you had both calmed down, voice worn out from the laughing fit.
“Wouldn’t dream of it.”
Comfortable silence warmed the room for a moment as you both drank more tea. Odd though your little scene was, with you both sat on the floor, legs outstretched in the middle, it was cosy. The glow of fading LEDs that barely lit your faces separated you from the darkness of the outside. In all the world, it felt as though you two were the only ones, safe in your unorthodox sanctuary.
“How…”
You spoke before you had figured out how to phrase your question, but now Taehyung had lifted his eyes back to you.
“How did you… Who started, I mean, with bangtan…”
“How did we get together?”
You gave a small nod.
“Some of us go way back,” he set his tea down, “I mean, I went to high school with Jimin. And Yoongi’s from the same city as me, and we used to know each other when we were tiny. His family was connected to Namjoon’s, and that’s where it started – their families started the whole crime thing, and they started training together.
“We all sort of fell together, I think Jin’s family needed help from Namjoon’s and he stayed on; Jungkook knew Jimin from childhood, and he showed up asking for help when we had already started; Jin found Hoseok at college. I started, and Jimin came along too, because Yoongi wanted me. We had been out of touch for years, but I still knew who he was.”
“Wow,” you breathed.
“It’s sort of complicated, I know,” he directed a shy smile at his cup.
“Well, that’s life,” you said quietly, “but you guys work so well together. I guess you got lucky.”
Taehyung’s nod was solemn.
“Yeah. But it’s more than just working – they’re my brothers now.”
Tilting your head as you listened, you believed him.
“You guys seem to understand each other so well.”
“We do – we always have each other’s backs, you know? I wouldn’t stick around in this for just anyone.”
“By ‘this’, do you mean…” you rested your chin on your knees, still listening intently.
“Everything we’re known for: drugs, fights, racing… I never intended to get into all that. I try to be careful, and moral, about it, we all do. But I wouldn’t have done it for anyone else.”
“Do you think you’ll stay in a gang forever?”
By now you were both talking in hushed tones as if you were huddled under blankets.
“No, I don’t think so,” he pondered, “I’m not sure what I want to be, though.”
“How about your art?” you smiled, “or fashion. Those books you got me were really interesting. Or your music? You’re a good singer-“
Cutting yourself off, your eyes widened. Taehyung had been nodding along, considering your options, but now he stared straight back at you.
“You heard me singing?”
“U-uh, yeah, I did,” you stammered, heat glowing in your cheeks, “I was half asleep, but I thought you were so good.”
“Thanks,” Tae’s voice was lower in pitch now, and he swallowed and looked down, his dark hair obscuring most of his face so he almost melted into the darkness. He cleared his throat, “I’ve never sung to anyone else before.”
“Well, you didn’t exactly sing to me,” you spoke softly, reaching a hand to his knee, “but it was amazing anyway. I mean it.”
You were glad to see a genuine smile blooming on his face as he looked back up again.
“Anyway,” he shook his head, “I’m not gonna leave the boys. Even when I’m not in a gang, they’ll always be my family. I’m not letting that go.”
“I understand.”
You really did. Your only family was across the city, torn from you and forced to work for Shinhyuk.
Hesitantly, you drew your hand back from his knee.
Draining the last dregs of his cold tea, Taehyung let the silence settle.
“I miss college,” you eventually confess into the quiet room, “I hope I get to go back.”
“Even Professor Han’s class?” Tae’s low voice joked.
“Oh, I don’t think I miss it that much,” you smiled, though it was overtaken by a sigh.
“You’ll go back,” came the reassurance.
A pause.
“We… we’re hoping we can beat Shinhyuk in this whole thing. We’re sort of working on a plan.”
Instantly intrigued, you stared expectantly across the kitchen at Taehyung, who heaved a sigh and began to explain.
“Shinhyuk has his weaknesses, and thanks to Jungkook we’ve found the worst. He works differently to us. He doesn’t care for anyone in his gang, and they don’t care for each other. Like your dad, he keeps most of them there with blackmail, so we’ve been trying to pick people off. If we can infiltrate well enough, guarantee his members a safe escape from the gang, or find some blackmail of our own to get them, we should be able to weaken him and catch him off-guard when his safety net isn’t there to catch him anymore…”
“Is it going to work?” you breathed into the still air.
Taehyung pursed his lips. You were very conscious of your breathing as you waited for an answer. In. Out.
“It has to.”

Late Nights
This is 2.5k words of fluff and essentially no plot. Set a week after the events of ICLU. I wrote the first part back in May right after I got the idea for ICLU and have been sitting on this ever since.
*****
When the letters and numbers on the screen finally blurred beyond recognition, Riley closed the program she’d been working on and put the lab computer to sleep. Her eyes burned. She was horribly behind on developing this program; it needed to start beta testing days ago, but the team’s back to back multi-day ops and her impromptu trip with the Coltons on her supposed day off consumed all of her time and energy this week.
Posing as a think tank, the Phoenix did have to do think tank-y things on occasion, after all, and every agent was expected to contribute to the organization’s public projects. Including a certain physically and emotionally exhausted hacker.
Mac sat across from her, fidgeting with spare robot parts. Riley checked the time. 10:58 pm. Everyone else had gone home hours ago. She vaguely recalled Bozer teasing her about not spending the night in his lab again. Pointing at Mac, he’d said, “Good thing he’s just as much of a workaholic as you are.” Riley knew Mac was just there to keep her company—and because they’d carpooled—not because he needed to keep working, but she hadn’t bothered to correct Bozer.
Groaning, Riley let her head fall into her hands. It felt like some invisible force was squeezing her skull, slowly crushing it like a grape. She needed to go to bed. Possibly forever.
“You okay?” She glimpsed Mac’s concerned frown between her fingers.
“Yeah,” she replied, dragging her hands through her hair. “I have a headache, that’s all.” Understatement of the century. “How long until you’re done?”
Mac looked unconvinced; when it came to her, he didn’t miss much. Mercifully, he didn’t push for a more elaborate answer. “Um, I need a few more minutes to finish this, plus maybe fifteen more to clean up. Bozer will kill me if I leave a giant mess in his lab.” Riley managed a small smirk. Indeed he would.
Riley figured it would be at least a half hour before he was ready to leave. Just enough time for a nap. “Take your time, Mac.” She stood, hauling her backpack onto her shoulder. “I’m going to take a nap. Come find me when you’re ready to go.” He nodded.
Sleep beckoning, Riley left the lab in search of a comfy chair.
*****
Thirty minutes later, Mac found her curled up in her favorite chair in the war room. Knees tucked into her chest, head cradled in the crook of her elbow, she looked breathtakingly peaceful.
He regretted waking her the moment he gently shook her shoulder. Riley grumbled something unintelligible that might have been his name.
“Time to go home, Riles.” Mac shouldered her backpack and helped her out of the chair.
Riley could barely open her eyes. She took one staggering step forward and nearly wiped out on the table she definitely didn’t realize was right in front of her. He knew she was exhausted—he was too—but this was alarming. She was burning herself out on the least important part of her job, and Mac didn’t understand why. A problem for tomorrow, he decided.
Mac wrapped an arm around her waist, helping keep her upright. “Thank you,” she mumbled. He pressed a quick kiss to the side of her head.
Mac’s truck sat alone in the underground lot. He was immensely grateful he and Riley had carpooled to work that day. Otherwise, if he hadn’t stayed to keep her company while she worked, she definitely would’ve spent the whole night in that war room chair.
They drove home in silence. Riley quickly fell asleep in the passenger seat, head resting on the window.
She was still out cold when he parked his truck in the driveway, and Mac couldn’t bring himself to wake her up twice in one night. He slid his arms around her back and under her knees and carried her inside, and Mac’s heart melted when she snuggled her face into his shoulder. He could hold her like this forever. “Let’s get you to bed,” he murmured.
Mac laid her on the guest bed and rested her backpack against the nightstand. He quickly unlaced her boots and pulled them off, revealing bright yellow and orange striped socks. He chuckled, imagining her muttering at him to stop laughing at her socks.
Grabbing a makeup wipe from the guest bathroom, it took him a few minutes to remove her stubborn eyeliner. No wonder, he’d seen it withstand blazing infernos, days in the woods, blood, sweat, tears, everything.
He tucked her under the covers before retrieving her favorite pajama shirt—an old t-shirt of his—and shorts. Mac left them at the foot of Riley’s bed, so she could change into them whenever she woke up.
Riley curled into a loose ball, snuggling her face deeper into her pillow, and Mac couldn’t help but worry as he closed the door halfway and retreated to his room.
*****
Riley awoke in the middle of the night to her bra’s underwire stabbing her in the chest. She blinked a few times, trying to get her bearings. She definitely wasn’t in the war room anymore.
It took longer than Riley cared to admit to realize she was back in Mac’s guest bedroom—her bedroom for the year she’d lived with him. Mac must’ve taken her home from the Phoenix.
Riley rolled onto her back, and her underwire stabbed her again. Fuck this, she thought, yanking off her tank top, then her bra, and sighing in relief as the straps fell down her shoulders. Chucking them both on the floor, she noticed the stack of clothes at the foot of her bed, blending in so well with the dark sheets Riley almost missed them. She smiled, silently thanking the man sleeping across the hall, and changed into her pajamas.
While debating whether to stay or join Mac, Riley stretched her back and hips, joints popping softly. She could be lazy and spend the rest of the night in her old room, or she could go cuddle with her boyfriend, but that would require getting up. But if she got up, she could also brush her teeth.
Had she even had dinner? Riley couldn’t remember. Her brain was still foggy.
Ultimately, her desire to sleep with Mac and brush her teeth won out, and Riley hauled herself out of bed and across the hall, feet barely lifting off the ground with each step.
Mac was a pretty light sleeper, so Riley slipped into bed beside him as quietly as she could. He stirred, but didn’t wake. Sinking into the mattress, Riley knew switching beds was the right choice. Her body relaxed more in Mac’s presence. She’d never realized how lonely exhaustion was, not until she had someone she could freely share with and who could empathize with her. Even so, she’d still lied earlier about how she really felt, mostly for the sake of her dignity. Mac was her best friend, but Riley was loath to outright admit to weakness, even to him.
She wanted to snuggle into his warmth and tuck her face between his shoulder blades, but that would surely wake him up. And waking Mac up would lead to questions she didn’t want to answer just yet. So, Riley stuck to her side of the mattress, tucked her legs into her chest, and went back to sleep.
*****
When Mac’s alarm went off, he wasn’t alone. Riley had snuck into his bed at some point and now curled into a tiny ball, facing away from him.
He wished they didn’t have to go to work today, wished they could sleep in and he could pry some answers from her. But the world wouldn’t save itself.
He texted Matty. Please don’t send us on an op someone else could do. Riley’s burning herself out, and I can’t figure out why.
I’ll keep an eye on her, Matty replied immediately.
Thank you.
Leaning over to kiss his girlfriend’s cheek, Mac got up and went for a run.
He did an easy three miles around the neighborhood, letting the cool dawn air wake him up. Mac smiled every time he passed someone else out for a run or walking their dog before the July sun made leaving the house practically unbearable.
When he returned, Mac found Riley awake and making coffee for them both. Her back was to him, so Mac scanned her body for signs of stress or injury, finding neither. “Good morning,” he said to break the silence.
Riley turned to him, bleary-eyed and still half asleep, and held out a steaming mug of coffee. Mac accepted, kissing her cheek in gratitude. It shocked him how easy it all was. She croaked, “How was your run?”
Mac couldn’t deny the way seeing Riley in his clothes affected him—the same way, he realized guiltily, the sight had always appeased some primal, possessive part of his brain, even when they were just friends—but damn it hit differently when she wore a sleepy, lovesick smile and had just crawled out of his bed. Riley had always been his girl, but now she was his girl.
The whole scene was sweet and domestic and everything he’d ever wanted.
“Good,” he finally answered. “I even stopped to say hi to our favorite dog.” An elderly couple who lived a few streets away had a mini Aussie, who was quite possibly the happiest being in the universe. She would trot alongside her humans without a leash, but when Mac or Riley appeared, she whined and whined until her owners said “Go ahead,” and she’d come barreling full-force into Mac or Riley’s chest and lavish them with endless kisses. Her name was Freya.
Riley’s eyes lit up in excitement. “My dog!” Mac chuckled, sliding onto one of the bar seats tucked below the counter.
Changing the subject, Mac tried to be nonchalant when he asked, “How do you feel this morning?” Worry crept into his voice anyway.
“Better,” Riley said, the mug hiding her face as she sipped her coffee. “Thanks for taking me home.”
Of course he took her home. Even if they weren’t dating, Mac still would’ve taken her home and given her his clothes. There was no universe in which he wouldn’t do that.
“Like I was going to let you spend the night in that chair,” he replied. Riley toyed with the hem of her shirt, her usual lively presence vanishing like a turtle retreating into its shell. Mac probed, “What’s up?” She sighed, still looking down. “Riles?”
When she finally looked up, Riley’s eyes were heavy with guilt. “Do you know how many times I almost got us killed this week?” Mac waited. “Twice. I led us—led you—right into traps I should’ve seen from a mile away. And before that, I gave you a fucking panic attack that sent you driving through the middle of nowhere to come find me!” Her voice crescendoed. “And now? Now I can’t even get that stupid program to work right! I just want to be able to do one thing right. One thing! Is that too much to ask?” Riley let out a loud, frustrated groan, shoulders caving inward.
Mac stayed in his seat, letting Riley have her space. He knew she didn’t like being coddled when she was frustrated. “I almost get us killed constantly,” he reminded her. “It’s part of our job. No one is holding it against you, especially not me. And that panic attack was the best thing to happen to me, because without it we’d still be waiting for one of us to find the courage to confess. This is going to sound hypocritical coming from me, but you can’t beat yourself up about that stuff.”
Riley snorted. “Very hypocritical.”
“You have to take the small wins as they come, okay? We’re not dead! We had sex! The important stuff!”
“I see you have your priorities together.” Her tone was snarky, but Mac caught her smile between sips of coffee.
“If we didn’t have to go to work I’d bend you over the counter and tell you how hot you look in my shirt.”
Mac impressed himself with how casually he managed to say that; he could only imagine Riley’s merciless teasing if his voice had cracked.
Riley blushed, even as she cautiously said, “We could do that anyway.”
The apprehension in her voice hit Mac like a bucket of cold water. He couldn’t just say things like that to his girlfriend of two days. Or maybe she was his best friend and he didn’t care. Mac couldn’t decide. This thing between them was so new, yet it felt like they’d been together forever. The butterflies lasted forty-eight hours, tops, before the calm sense of belonging, of home, washed over them. Mac had never had that happen so quickly in a relationship before. Usually it took weeks or even months, not two days.
“It’s not like they’re going to know,” Riley added.
That made the decision for him. “Are you kidding me? If we walk in late together, they’ll absolutely know why. They’re like professional mind readers! We’ll never hear the end of it.”
“Correction,” Riley said. “You’ll never hear the end of it. Desi and Bozer will just high five me and say, ‘Nice.’”
Mac frowned. She was right, unfortunately. He finished the rest of his coffee, grimacing at the bitter last sip. Placing his mug in the sink, Mac said, “Seriously though, I want you to feel safe sharing with me when you feel like this, Riles.” He leaned against the sink. “Let me help you.”
Riley crossed to him, finally closing the gap between them, and wrapped her arms around his waist. “Okay,” she agreed, head resting on his shoulder. She sighed. “I really don’t want to go to work today, but if I get any more behind on that damn project I am going to pull my hair out.”
Mac pressed a single kiss where her neck met her shoulder. “Your hair is beautiful. Please don’t pull it out.” Gently, he unwound Riley’s scrunchie, letting her hair tumble down her back so he could play with it.
“Just for you.”
They stood like that as long as they could, before they really did need to get ready for work. “I need to shower,” Mac finally said, ruining the quiet moment. “Care to join me?”
Riley raised an eyebrow. “I thought you didn’t want to be late.”
A very serious shower,” Mac amended. “No funny business.”
“Right.” Riley kissed him until Mac couldn’t hold back his grin. “No funny business. Now where have I heard that before?”
Laughing, Mac dragged his girlfriend toward the bathroom.

A/n: This is my first Bill x reader, still trying to get Bill right also I’m wanting for this to be a series. Bill don’t get much love and I wanted give him some more :) I did write this as Fem!reader, I can do gender neutral readers for other people, I’m used to writing as a female since I’m a female. Also Gryffindor reader! I might change the series’ name not sure how I feel about this one
Summary: You’re best friends with the twins and go to the quidditch world cup with the family before your 7th year.  A certain older Weasley finally sees your fancy to him.
I was excited when the Weasley’s owl dropped off a letter from Fred asking me if I could join him and his family to the quidditch world cup. Quidditch wasn’t my favorite thing, I’ve been supporting the Weasley’s in quidditch since Charlie played.  I packed my bags for the game and school, Molly said I could leave my school things in Percy’s room.  The Burrow came into sight finally.  “Wow, you grew up fast”, I heard a voice say, I turned around to see a long haired ginger.  “Bill”, I smiled.  “Y/n, you’re here! Hi sweetheart”, Molly smiled, walking to me with her arms opened.  “Hi Molly, thank you for letting me stay”, I said.  “Oh nonsense, you’re family dear”, Molly smiled.  “Fred! George! Come take Y/n’s things to Ginny and Percy’s room”  I heard running and pushing “Oh no”, I said as I prepared myself for the impact of the twins.  “What?”, Bill asked as George picked up as Fred and him engulfed me into their grip.  They had grown a lot since the first of June, somehow Fred got me in his arms.  “Miss me that much, Freddie?”, I asked as he held me longer.  He nodded.  “Alright put the girl down, Frederick”, Bill said.  “Owahh. You’re no fun at all”, Fred whined as he sat me down.  “Thank you”, I said as the boys took my bags.  “No problem, Y/n”, Bill smiled.  “How’s Egypt?”  “Good actually, but it’s good to be home for once”, Bill said.  I smiled. “Heard you made prefect?”, Bill asked.  “I did, who told?”, I asked.  “Ginny, odd actually. I expected Fred to spill it. Congratulations, Y/n”  “Thanks Bill”, I grinned.
“Y/n”, Ginny jumped the last step and landed in my chest.  “Omph. Hi Gin, I missed you too”, I hugged the ginger girl back. The young girl squeezed me, “Ginny, can’t breathe”, I whined.  “I’m sorry I just missed you is all”, She mumbled in my chest.  “Ginny! Why is my broom in your room?”, Ron yelled.  Ginny looked at me and then Bill, before running away from the older ginger.   “Is she like this in school?”, Bill asked.  “I might have a soft spot for your sister”, I giggled.  “Y/n”, He shook his head.  “I understand, her puppy dog eyes still have an effect on me too”, Bill smiled, laid his hand on my shoulder before stalking upstairs.  Bill made fire run up my body and core when he laid his hand on me.  I watched him disappear up the stairs, “Hey you okay?”, Fred asked.  “Yeah. when did you get down here?”, I asked.  “Just as Bill walked up and I saw you watching him. What’s up with that huh?”, Fred asked, turning the water tap on to fill his glass.  “Nothing is up, Bill and I have talked before, Frederick”, I scoffed.  “I don’t think you’ve had heart eyes at him”, Fred laughed.  “I do not! Stop being a pest!”, I sighed, throwing my head back.  I walked in the twins’ room and jumped face first into George’s bed.  “May I help you, doll?”, George asked from the desk.  “Just want to die right now is all, Georgie”, I said in the blanket. “I’m sorry?”, George asked again.  I raised up, “Just Fred being nosey is all, he thinks I have a thing for Bill”  “Do you? Hey that means you would be an actually Weasley, if you got married”, George smiled getting excited.
“Not you too, Georgie!’, I whined.  “I’m sorry, would you rather marry Fred or me instead?”, George asked.  “Knock it off, I would kill Fred before we even got in bed together”, I rolled my eyes.  “So you wouldn’t kill me and I could get you into bed is what you’re saying?”, George smirked. “Not exactly but you and Charlie have a better chance than Fredrick does”, I giggled.  “I’ll be waiting, Princess”, George smiled.  “Hey don’t tell Fred, he’ll start something and I don’t feel like dealing with him”, I asked while holding George’s hand.  “Sure, anything for you, Princess”, George kissed my temple.  “Hey lovebirds, dinner”, Bill said, turning around leaving.   I jumped back a little.  “Come on, if you don’t get there before Ron you won’t get the good stuff”, George said.  We got down there, Arthur was at the head of the table, Fred and George were together. Hermoine and Harry arrived, leaving me to be next to Bill and Ron.  “Y/n, dear there’s place next to William”, Molly smiled, pulling dinner from the oven.  “Thanks”, I muttered.  “Hi again”, Bill smiled.  “Hi Bill”, I sat down.  “Y/n, Hermoine and I are having girls’ night. We want you there, please”, Ginny smiled.  “Save me a spot, Gin”, I returned the smile.  Everyone was having a conversation with each other, I was just finishing my food and just moving my fork through the peas and chicken bones.  I heard the twins to be excused and Ginny followed.  Ginny loved the twins and especially if they let her tagalog to whatever.  The trio stood up, Hermoine leaned to me, “Come to Ginny’s room after you get ready for bed”  “Thank you, mione”, I smiled.  It was Molly, Arthur, Bill and I left.   “Did I tell you Charlie would be coming back home, Bill?”, Molly asked.  “No, mum you didn’t. He’s married isn’t he?”, Bill sat up, knocking his knee into my thigh.  “Heaven’s no, I wish. Hogwarts is hosting the Triwizard tournament this year. One of the tasks has dragons, Charlie offered to supply them”, Molly said.  I smiled at the thought of the other older Weasley. He was like my best friend when I started Hogwarts, he always looked after me and walked me to classes.
“Y/n, did you bring a dress this year?”, Molly asked.  “It’s getting tailored, Mum’s sending it after my aunt finishes it”, I replied.  “Your muggle aunt?”, Arthur asked.  “No, my great aunt Sophia. She lives in Italy”, I said.  Arthur knew some of my extended family were half bloods, and would ask me about their muggle things.  “Thank you for the lovely dinner, Mols”, Arthur stood from his chair. He kissed her cheek.  “You’re welcome dear”, She smiled.  “Mum, you and dad go relax. I’ll clean up tonight”, Bill smiled.  “Oh thank you, baby. You’re too sweet”, She smiled, holding his cheek.  Bill grabbed the plates, stacking them up.  “Care for an extra hand?”, I asked, getting the cups.  “No at all, love”, Bill said walking to the sink. I blushed at the nickname.  The twins barreled in the burrow, one of them was carrying Ginny on their shoulders.  “Don’t drop her and be quiet. Mum and Dad are relaxing!”, Bill raised his voice.  “Oh so you and Y/nn decided to play house? How cute”, Fred chuckled.  Bill blushed, “Get upstairs”  “Sure thing, loverboy. Night Y/n! Oh and Gin’s room is the last one on left”, Fred smirked.  “Go!”, I mouthed.  “Night Bill, glad you’re back. Night Y/n”, George smiled at his oldest brother. “Night George, missed you too”, Bill grinned.  “Night Billy”, Ginny hugged his torso.  “Night Ginny”  “You better be upstairs before 8:30”, She looked at me, wiggling her eyebrows where Bill couldn’t see her.   “Yes mother”, I giggled.  “I wouldn’t break that curfew if I was you, love”, Bill had a shit eating grin.  “Worry about your own ass, Weasley”, I smirked, wiping the table down.
“Ginny open up!”, Bill said in front of me.  “What do you want, William?”, She huffed.  “Geez Ginvera! Chill, I’m just delivering your guest of honor”,  Bill said pulling me in front of him.  “He insisted on this”, I giggled.  “Okay, have fun, dont stay up too late. Uh, if you wanna do someone’s make up go to the twins’ room.  Goodnight ladies' ', Bill smiled, patting my head before leaving to his room.  “Brothers'', Ginny rolled her eyes.  “He’s not too bad, Gin”, I said, unzipping my suitcase.  “Whatever, says the one who has had heart eyes all day at Bill'', Ginny shot back.  “As if you weren’t doing the same at Potter'', I scoffed.  “Lets not fight before the night has began”, Hermoine said.  Ginny and I looked at each other before smiling, “Hermoine and Ron sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G! Muuhh muuhh!” “Shut up!”, Hermoine rolled her eyes.  I high waved Ginny, “Hey 10 galleons on them remember?” “I have it, don’t worry”, Ginny smirked.
Next morning, Molly announced her and Arthur were going to town to get stuff for the world cup.  Leaving Bill in charge, the twins suggested a quidditch match in the field. Ron and Harry were happy at the suggestion. We all went outside, “You not playing?”, Bill asked.  “No, I prefer watching this game instead”, I said, trying not to blush.  “Granger?”, He asked Hermoine.  “No, thank you Bill”  “Okay. Boys! Ginny!”, Bill stalked off to the kids.  I watched his back side, tight jeans carved his thighs out nicely, t-shirt that was too tight on his biceps, Godric that long fiery hair that was now put up in a bun.  “When did he pierce his ear?”, I asked.  “Who?”, Moine asked.  “I said that out loud?”, I blushed.  Hermoine nodded.  “Bill, he has an earring in his ear now”, I said.  “Better watch it, Potter!”, Fred laughed above us.  The game ended, everyone was hungry.  Bill was slowly walking to the burrow. “What did you do to him?”, I asked.  “He just can’t keep up anymore”, Ron snickered.  “You guys go ahead. Hey Bill you okay?”, I asked the tall red. “Oh yeah, just haven’t played in years and forgot how intense Weasleys play”, Bill said.  “Sure that’s the reason”, I smirked, walking behind the twins again.  “If you’re implying I’m too old, I’m not okay? 24 isn’t old, Y/n”, Bill yelled as we got into the burrow.  “You’re out of shape too, William!”, Fred yelled back to the field.  “Shut up!”, we heard Bill yell back.  “Maybe you can perk him up, Y/n”, Fred winked.
It was time for us to meet Arthur’s friend from work, we had ate breakfast and got hugged goodbye by Molly.  George had me on his back as we walked with his father, “You like Bill?”, he asked.  “Yeah, Bill’s cool”, I replied back, running my hand through his locks.  “When did he get an earring?”, I asked.  “Sometime after, he got to Egypt. Bunk buddy did it for him”, George said.  “Mhmm! Okay put me down, please”, I said. “Enjoy your ride, Princess?”, Bill smirked.  “I did for your information, George is a smooth rider”, I said.  “Amos!”  “Arthur! This must be your kids.” Amos Diggory asked.  “Yes, and their friends”, Arthur smiled.  “This young lad must be Cedric”, Arthur asked as my ex hopped from the tree. “Fuck me”, I groaned.  “What’s wrong?”, Bill asked, squeezing my hand.  “Cedric is my cheating ex, we broke up last spring”, I said looking down.  “I’m sorry Y/n. You can hang with me, I’ll look after you”, Bill said.  “Thanks, Bill. I’d love that”, I smiled at him.  “Bill! Y/n! Come on”, George yelled.  We finally got to the camp where the cup was being held. Cedric and Amos went to their tent.  “Y/n, I didn’t know he was coming too. I’m sorry”, Fred said.  “Fred, it’s not your fault. I don’t blame you, okay? He’s the one who ruined it not you”, I gave him  a smile.  “I still feel bad”, Fred ran a hand through his hair. “Don’t be! Enjoy the game before we have to go back to school, okay”, I stood on my tip toes and kissed his cheek.  Before we left to meet the Diggorys again.  “Y/n, can I talk to you for a moment? Kids wait outside, please”, Arthur said.  “Yes Arthur?”, I asked.  “The twins told about your unfortunate incident with Amos’ boy last spring. I didn’t know you weren’t together anymore, my apologies for not telling you at home”, Arthur said, holding my hand in a fatherly way.  “It’s okay, Arthur really.  We’re prefects, we’re eventually gonna have to talk much as I hate the idea of it.  Besides Bill promised to look out for me”, I squeezed his hand. Arthur smiled, “That’s my boy”
I was holding Bill’s forearm to keep up with him and the crowd,  “Hi Y/n, how are you?” Cedric asked.  “Hi Diggory, I’m fine. Thanks for asking”, I gave a fake smile.  Cedric nodded and went back to walking.  “Stupid git”, I muttered as Bill walked again.   We finally got to our seats and everyone was amazed at the view.  Lucius and Draco Malfoy stood below us, being stuck up as ever.  Draco looked up at me and smirked. He had a crush on me even though I’m a Gryffindor.  “I hate Malfoy so much”, Ron rolled his eyes. His siblings agreed in silence.  The game ended, Ireland won and the Weasleys were happy about it.  Even Bill celebrated spinning Ginny around the tent.  I was in a corner, I had a bad feeling something was gonna happen soon.  “Hey what’s wrong?”, Bill asked.  “Just got a bad feeling about something, Bill”, I said. Bill grabbed my arms, pulling me into a hug, “Stop worrying, if something does happen I’ll protect you”  “You promise, Weasley?”, I smirked in his chest.  “I do”, Bill said.  “Victor I love youuu”, The twins and Harry started singing to Ron.  Bill watched his father stop for a second.  “The Irish certainly have their groove on”, Fred smirked.  “It’s not the Irish, stop it! Stop it!”, Arthur raised his voice.  I heard screaming and hexes being thrown around.  “Everyone get somewhere safe! Fred, George Ginny’s your responsible now”, Arthur said as we got out of the tent.
Bill had me on his side as we looked around, seeing fire and people running.  “Where did the twins go with Ginny?”, Bill asked.  “I don’t know”  “Shit! We gotta get back home now, it’s a death eater attack”, Bill picked me up and apperated us home.  The twins and Ginny made it home before us.  “Y/n, you okay? Guess that was your bad feeling”, Bill tucked my head from his shoulder.  “Yeah guess so. Um, can you put me down now?” I asked the tall red head.  We walked in, “Thank Godric, you two are okay?”, Molly looked up from Ginny’s shoulder.  She pulled Bill into a tight hug, the best she could do with her son being over 6ft.  She held his face and smiled. It was late and I was still up. Tomorrow would be my last year at Hogwarts and then I would be off to healer school.  Ginny had finally fallen asleep in Hermoine’s arms.  I looked over at the sleeping pair, “Thank god, they’re okay”, I whispered before getting out of bed.  I walked downstairs to get a drink. Someone was bent over in the fridge.  “Can’t sleep either?”, I asked whoever.  “Y/n. Uh no not really”, Bill stood tall again.  I sat down at the table and rubbed my hand over my face. “What’s eating at you?” Bill asked.  “Just everything, Bill. It’s my last year before I go to be a healer. I feel like I haven’t enjoyed life much as I should have”  “Y/n, you’re 18. You don’t need to know life’s answers just yet, go live your life even as a healer”, Bill sat next to me.  I looked at him for a few minutes, “Don’t want life’s answers at any point of life”  Bill nodded as he understood.
“Y/n, how did you find out about Cedric?”, Bill asked.  “Uh, he wasn’t as loving anymore. It was two weeks before I confronted him about cheating.  He told me he was going to the library to study with one of his friends, it got late and he promised we would walk around. Damn! Uh anyways, I went looking for him, there was you know those sounds. I was gonna go back to my dorm, but something told me to go see who it was.”,I felt tears on my cheeks.  “Y/n you don’t have to tell me anymore”, Bill rubbed his thumbs on my face to catch the tears.  “You’re the first one, I’ve actually told the whole truth about him.  Let me finish.  He didn’t see me, but she did, it was some random ravenclaw, she might be in the twins’ year. Cedric was too busy fucking her to notice her smiling at me, I didn’t ask him about for a week. I got him to cuddle one night in my dorm, I had my head on his chest and asked him who she was and how long he had been cheating. Of course, he broke down and told me.  He told me I didn’t make him happy anymore, thought I was too close with Fred. The crazy thing he somehow blamed Fred for him cheating”, I laughed at the last part.  “I’m sorry, Y/n. You didn’t deserve that, dirty fucking dog”, Bill clenched his jaw.  “If it makes you feel any better the twins pranked him before we left for the summer”, I ran my finger down his jaw.  Bill was still quiet, letting me crease his face. “Y/n, can I tell you something? I understand if you think it’s weird”, Bill asked.  I nodded, “I don’t know what started it, but I think I love you. Which is crazy because you’re younger than me. Just something about your long soft hair, your gorgeous face and body.  I’m sorry, I-” I cut Bill off by kissing him.  I held his face with one hand and ran the other through his hair.  “Bill, I feel the same way and believe me, I felt weird too about it but fuck it. I like you too”, I kissed the side of his lips.  Bill grinned, “I’m too old for you, love. I have my career already, you haven’t even graduated Hogwarts for Merlin’s sake” “Six years between us so what? My grandparents were eight years apart and they loved each other until she passed away a couple years ago.”I said, Bill was looking at me.  “Okay, fine! I’ll go back to bed until the morning and we’ll forget we kissed and all. Sorry for making you uncomfortable”, I stood up, but Bill caught my wrist.
“Would it bother you going out someone my age?”, Bill asked, rubbing my wrist.  I shook my head, “Give it some time and I’ll be good” Bill nodded, standing up, pulling by my waist into his arms.  I held his shoulder and peck for stability.  “Y/n, want to be my girlfriend?”, Bill asked sweetly. “More than you know, Weasley”, I smiled in his arms.  “May I kiss you?”, Bill asked, moving a piece of hair out of my face.  “Please do”, I said. Bill leaned down, slightly picking me up and kissed me.  I have had a few partners but nobody made me feel how Bill Weasley does while kissing me. My body got hot all over again, I craved more of him. I deepened the kiss, running my hands in his hair.  We pulled away, needing oxygen in our lungs again.  Bill rubbed his thumb over my bottom lip, smiling at me.  “You’re so beautiful, love”  I smiled and blushed, I was gonna say thank you but I was too embarrassed. Bill knew what I wanted to say, “Come on, it’s late. 9am comes early”, Bill said, guiding me up the stairs with a hand on my waist. We got to the level where Ginny, Ron and the twins’ room were on, I stopped for a minute.  “What’s the matter?’, Bill asked softly, standing near Ginny’s door.  “Kiss me goodnight please?”, I asked shyly.  Y/n! Get it together, you already kissed him twice tonight!  Bill’s smile broke me from my thoughts.  “Well, I can’t kiss you from there. C’mere, Princess”, Bill grinned, doing come hither with his fingers.  I possessed as I stood on my tiptoes to capture the oldest Weasley’s lips.
I woke up with Hermoine standing over my body with a scolding face, “Good morning, Moine”, I rolled over to my back.  “Where did you go at 2 am?”, Hermoine clasped her necklace. “Couldn’t sleep so I went downstairs for a while. Is that such a crime?”, I finally got up.  “I heard someone else with you when you finally came back”, Hermoine watched my every move.  “I ran into George, okay? He was telling me about a prank they want to do this year”, I said, throwing some clothes on.  Hermoine looked at me but decided to drop it.  I straightened my black crop top shirt of Guns N Roses and buttoned my black jeans before heading down.  I threw on a maroon cardigan and laced my boots, fixed my hair and bangs.  “Morning Y/n”, Molly smiled.  “Morning, smells wonderful”, I grinned at her again.  I could feel Hermoine eyes and a different pair on my back.  George yawned and ruffled my hair before sitting down with Ron.  I was left to sit with Bill, a few days ago it bothered me.  “Morning love, you look pretty”, Bill whispered in my ear as he grabbed my hand.  “Morning Bill. Thanks, you don’t look too bad yourself”, I whispered the last part.  After breakfast, Molly wanted us to check our trunks for the year. I was in Charlie and Percy’s room double checking my things, when someone clears their throat. “Whatcha doing?”, Bill asked.  “Same thing everyone else is doing, silly”, I grinned.  “It’s your 7th year, what could you have missed to pack? I have a better idea”, he smirked.  “Oh yeah what’s that?”, I teased back.  “Just your lips on me while I discover more of you, if that’s okay with you, love”, Bill ran a hand through my hair.  I bite my tongue from groaning or screaming with excitement.  “What d’ya say?”, Bill asked again.  I turned around and grabbed his jaw, “Better make it good, who’s know when I’ll you again” Bill smirked, “That I can do, baby” Bill smashed his lips onto mine, grabbing my waist with his large hands. I ran my tongue over his bottom lip, gripping his hair, the groan didn’t slip my ears or mind. I smirked as I entered his mouth from him groaning.  Bill held his hands on my thighs, he pulled away, “Jump” I smirked before wrapping my ankles around his waist and clasping my hands in his hair.  “Good girl”, Bill whispered as he kissed my neck before getting my lips again.  We made out for a while until Molly’s voice rang in the halls.  Bill was still kissing me as Molly walked away.  I pulled away, “Bill, come on let me go”, I sighed as he attacked my neck with kisses and licks.  He didn’t listen, “Bill”, I whined. The older man groaned in my neck before dropping me to my feet, “Not fair”  “What are you on about, Weasley?”, I asked, shutting my trunk. “Do you know how addicting your lips and kisses are? Now, you have to leave me”, Bill scolded, more like pouting.  “If you help me take my trunks down, I might sneak in a kiss before I leave”, I giggled.  Bill perked up and grabbed my trunks, “Huh Bill, you forgot something”, I smiled at the eager redhead.  “Oh sorry”, He smiled.  I kissed him for each trunk, “four kisses for four trunks, I think that’s a good deal”, I smirked as I followed him downstairs.  “About time”, George groaned.  “Yeah, what did you pack? A house?”, Ron rolled his eyes.  “Ronald Bilius!”, Molly scolded with her hands on her hips. Fred and George grinned.   “Since you’re here, want to join us Bill?”, Molly smiled at her oldest.  He grinned at me and then her, “I would love to, Mum”
“Jesus, Y/n what did you pack?”, Fred groaned as he threw my last trunk in.  “You know uniforms, robes, after school clothes, my bass and my guitar”, I smirked as Lee Jordan walked in the booth.  “Hey Lee”, I said.  “Lee help me. Princess decided to bring stuff she didn’t need”, Fred groaned.   “Work out more and you won’t have that problem, Frederick”, I smirked.  “Hey is that Angelina? Wow she grew up this year!”, George said, winking at me. Fred almost broke his neck trying to find the girl who wasn’t even there.  We all laughed at him, “Fuck you, Georgie”, he huffed plopping down with his twin. The boys started their own conversation, I decided to read ‘The Great Gatsby’. The longer I read, the more I thought of Bill, his hands on my waist, biceps that bludged as he held me against a wall of his childhood home.  Godric forbid, his plump, soft pink lips. The way he made me feel was more than Cedric or even my secret girlfriend, Evie. The thought of Bill Weasley drove me mad and my body even crazier.
A few days later, I was in Great hall with Hermoine. Kids were putting their name into the goblet, cheering as their name was accepted. The twins barreled in the Great hall, talking about the potion they made.  I told them they were wasting their time, it wouldn’t work because they’re not old enough and Molly would kill them for even entering.  “It’s not gonna worrrkkk”, Hermoine smirked.  “Moine, don’t start”, I sighed as George pushed by to kennel by the younger girl.  “Oh yeah, why’s that granger?”, Fred smirked.  Hermoine huffed, rolled her eyes before replying, “It’s an age line drawn by Dumbleodore himself.”, I rolled my eyes and blocked them out, Hermoine didn’t realize sometimes you gotta let the two idiots do stuff to find out not everything will go their way.  “Guys, what happens if it actually works? Then Dumbledore pulls one of your names, he’s not gonna let you either one of you attempt the tasks”, I held George’s hand.  They looked at each other and smirked, “Chill”, Fred said squishing my cheek. “You worry too much, brookie”, George held my other cheek.  “Fine, do it, I don’t care”, I sighed as Cedric dropped his name in.  We locked eyes for a moment, “Meet me outside”, He mouthed.  George and Fred drank their potion and jumped into the line. “Oh no”, I whined, knowing it was gonna go south any second now.  “Yeahhh”, Fred and George high waved to each other. Blue flames shot out and the twins were thrown out of the line.  The hall was quiet before giggling filled the hall, I looked over to see the twins now old men with beards similar to our headmaster.
“You said”, “You said”, the twins whined before tackling each to the ground.  I decided to see what Cedric wanted,  “Y/n”, Cedric said from the stairs. “What is it, Diggory?”, I rolled my eyes.  “Just want to talk is that a problem?”, Cedric asked.  “Depends on the topic”, I deadpanned.  “I know I fucked up hard and broke your heart. I shouldn’t have tried to find some other happiness, I needed to talk to you instead of-”, I cut him off.  “Instead of thinking with your dick and plunging it into some girl who was willing to help get your rocks off, am I in the right direction, Ced? Whatever you have to say I don’t care nor do I want to ever speak to you again unless prefect duties make that in motion. So get fucked, Diggory”, I stood tall.  Cedric looked guilty and wasn’t making eye contact.  “What I thought and stay far away from me”, I grabbed his chin, making him look at me.
“Why were you with Brooks? I thought you liked Chang?”, Tommy, Cedric’s best friend asked.  “Don’t worry about it”, Cedric stormed off.  Dinner came along, I was seated between the twins as usual.  “What’s wrong?”, Fred asked, getting a drink.  “I’ll tell you guys later, okay?”, I said with no emotions. The pair seem to understand I was moody and could snap any moment.  Cedric walked in with Cho laughing, holding her hand.  Some much anger coursed with my body, I snapped the cup in my hand. The twins, Hermoine, Harry, Ron and Lee stared at me.  I got up and walked to the door.  “Miss Brooks'', Professor McGonall yelled behind me. “Professor, no disrespect but I don’t think now is the time to talk to her”, George said.  I slammed the door of my prefect dorm, screaming and kicking stuff.  The door opened as I threw the compact mirror off my vanity, “What?!!”, I screamed.  The twins stood there cautiously,  “Up to talking yet?”, George asked.  I bit my lip, drawing blood.  “Hey hey, look at me. Y/n, look at me”, Fred got my attention, I stared into his brown eyes for a second.  I cried walking over to him, hugging his chest.  “Freddie”  “It’s okay, Freddie gotcha. Shushh, it’s alright”, Fred petted my head and rubbed my back.  Hot tears rushed out of my eyes onto Fred’s quidditch jumper, “I’m sorry, I got your jumper all wet”, I rubbed my sleeve under my nose.  Fred grinned, “That’s the first time water has hit my chest all year” I scoffed, George grinned.  “It was Cedric and Cho wasn’t it?”, Fred asked.  “That was my breaking point, Freddie. He asked me to meet him after he put his name in the goblet today. I’m beginning to think I was too aggressive with him”, I said.  “Why?”, George asked from the spot on my bed.  “I kinda cussed him out and didn’t let him talk. Just amused he was apologizing for last spring”, I said sheepishly.  “You wouldn’t let us beat him up so I think you cussing him out was good, love. Don’t worry about them, besides Charlie is coming this week”, George said.

I love you the dragon Au's with Vader and the twins! They just makes me happy! (I hope there are more in the future!)
Here’s a sequel to the previous AU.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Summary: Luke and Leia live with their father, Vader, who has been cursed into the form of a dragon. The family dwells inside a place known as the Vault, which holds mountains of treasures and untold riches.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
“Daddy, will you always be a dragon?”
Big round blue eyes stared up into golden yellow eyes with black slits. But no answer was given to the little boy that day.
Luke’s arms strained from carrying several scrolls and books from the archives back to his room. It was a long trek of long hallways and several flights of stairs. He could have just stayed in the archives or cleaned out one of the dusty learning halls, but there was something comforting about his room. About being close to the only other living beings for miles, to his family, to his sister and father. Solitude was far too easy to find here.
His room was actually a suite of rooms, and he placed the scrolls and books in the sitting room near a cluttered table. The rest of the room was equally as cluttered with not just books but swords, wooden and steel, and models of boats and horses and tapestries and banners. Some were gifts from his father or sister, a few were things he had found, and a very small few were items his father didn’t approve of but Luke had snuck them into his room anyway.
“Luke? It’s dinner. Go get some water and wine,” his sister called from the hallway.
Luke sighed. His feet were tired from carrying the scrolls, but he left his room. Leia, whose room was right next to his, was already gone. He made his way down flights of stairs and down hallways lined in firestones that took him deeper into the Vault until he came to the great wine cellar. The room was huge and filled with rows upon rows of racks of wine with dozens of barrels stacked in the very back.
His father had once tried to explain to his children why wine was considered a treasure. Why it would be kept here. Something about how grape harvests vary from year to year and thus the wine from certain years is better than the others. He really didn’t care and mindlessly selected a random bottle.
Wine in hand, he headed back up. He paused when he came to a large landing where several hallways met and stairs descended and ascended in several directions. On the floor was a large insignia surrounded by small sunstones. The symbol was of two pairs of wings with a straight line coming out of the middle and a starburst in the line. It was the symbol of the Jedi, the original keepers of the Vault.
The Jedi . . .
Luke shook his head as he entered the kitchens. It was a long room with multiple ovens and fireplaces for cooking fires. There were a few large wooden tables lining the center of the room and hooks and shelves filled with pots, pans, spoons, and knives. It was all covered in a fine layer of dust and some cobwebs except for a well-worn path leading through it to the door on the other side. It led to a small room with a well in it. He grabbed one of the many buckets, filled it with water, and this time hurried back across the kitchens.
Luckily the family hall was close. He soon was past the huge double doors and into the large semi-circular room. This place felt more like home than any other spot in the Vault. Their father had provided everything a house should have. A bedroom, dining room, sitting areas, and a play area. This is where Luke had his first memories. He remembered fondly curling up in the bed next to his sister while his father curled up beside the bed. At times he missed it, but he also enjoyed his independence and freedom.
The bed was long gone, but many of the things were still there like the huge dining table that could a dozen of guests. Leia had just opened the small trunk near the table and pulled up a large, heavy, thick, rolled up table cloth. She placed it on the end of the large table and rolled it out. It covered the full length of the long table. Luke placed the bucket of water at one end and held the bottle of wine.
Leia walked up to the middle of the table and clapped twice. Instantly, the table was filled with plates, platters, and bowls filled with fresh steaming food. The aroma instantly made his mouth water. He finally placed the wine down as Leia went to fetch the tableware.
“You’ve been in the archives,” Vader rumbled from his usual spot nearby.
“How can you tell?” Luke asked taking a corkscrew from his sister.
“You’re covered in dust,” she said waving a fork at him.
“You smell,” Vader replied. “The archives have a unique smell, and you reek of it. Be sure to take a bath tonight.”
Luke turned his back to the large dragon and rolled his eyes. He took a seat across from Leia and the two started to eat. The magic of the tablecloth never ceased to amaze him. It looked so normal, though it was perhaps a bit thick. That was to hide all the small magical stones sewn into it. But he couldn’t help but wonder what runs and formulas had been used to produce food out of thin air. Any time he or Leia had questioned their father about it, he would avoid the topic or say ‘There are no limits to magic.’
Did the food come from somewhere? Was this someone else's food the magic had teleported away? Or did the magic cook up all this food in an instant? There were no answers like so many other wondrous items in the Vault.
“Father,” Leia said about halfway through their meal.
Vader had been lightly dozing and opened his large yellows eyes.
“It’s almost our eighteenth birthday,” she stated. “That means we get one request, right?”
“It does,” their father said slowly.
Leia took a deep breath. Goosebumps spread down Luke’s arm. What was she going to ask? She hadn’t talked to him about this.
“Then I would like to go down to the valley and--”
“No!” Vader roared. He jumped up to his feet. “Never!”
The table shook and the plates trembled. Luke grabbed his wine glass to keep it steady. Leia had jumped up to her feet and was glaring down the darth dragon.
“Never?” she growled up at him.
Vader’s eyes had turned into slits and he bared his teeth.
“You will never leave the Vault,” Vader hissed.
“So we’re just supposed to rot in here with you?”
“Leia,” Luke muttered as his eyes darted between his small human sister and his large dragon father.
Leia ignored him. “So we can’t go out and find love and get married or have children? We have to be locked up in here like . . . like your stupid treasures?”
Vader’s breathing was loud and he pulled in sharp breaths through his teeth. The silence went on for a few moments until the dragon let out a frustrated growl. He spun away, his tail swinging wide above their heads, and he marched out of the great hall. Luke stared at the large doorway and the hallway beyond waiting to see if their father would return. It did not look like he was.
“Well, that answers that,” Leia said as slumped down into her chair.
“Answers what?” Luke demanded.
“Father never plans on letting us leave here.”
Luke looked down at his half-touched plate. The thought made his heart sink, but it wasn’t that surprising. Part of him always knew that.
“Unless,” Leia said slowly. She glanced to the hallway to make sure there were no dragons listening. Then she leaned over. “Unless we figure out a way to cure father’s curse.”
Luke groaned. “Not this again, Leia.”

Chapter 1
Thor was lost.
He had been for a while now, though it was hard to measure.  Partially because he had lived such a long, long time and most of it had gone by without much disrupting his enjoyment or general world view and then all at once it was just one thing after another and he couldn’t quite seem to catch his breath.
Perhaps it had begun to lose himself back when his father had first banished him to Midgard.  He had certainly felt lost for a while there, but usually, he looked back at that as the start of finding who he truly was.  Becoming worthy of Mjolnir and meeting Jane had been so significant, even when he had been forced to destroy the Bifrost and watched his brother fall to what he had thought was his death, Thor has still felt himself.
After that, it was one thing after another.  A barrage of pain and loss and he couldn’t keep up with it.  His mother, his brother, his relationship, his father, Mjolnir, his friends, his planet, his brother again, half of the universe, more of his friends.  Somewhere in all that loss and grief and guilt, he’d lost his direction and that core feeling of who he was, and he didn’t know what to do so he could stop feeling all this pain.
Then, in one single moment of clarity, he thought of you.
Midgard was not a world of gods.  Gods would visit, of course, Thor himself favored the small blue planet, but the line between science and magic was large, and rarely were gods born on the planet.
Yet sometimes the magic would seep through.  Maidardians liked to pray even when they didn’t know they were.  They would wish for certain things or give worship to them.  If enough did, then a god would be born.  They were minor deities and rarely held much power.  Yet they served their function and grew with the population's devotion.
None were prayed to quite as often as you.
You were not an easy person to track down.  Thor knew that he had to find you in the last place he looked or else it would be not at all.
So he started at the finish.  Going to the last conceivable place on the planet you might find a minor deity and announcing loudly that he would give up looking after trying the small cabin on the side of the hill.  Just as he put his hand on the door handle it swung open and he was greeted by you.
Along with the cable knit sweater that was three sizes too big, spotted with holes, and frayed at the hems, you wore a pair of jeans that were obviously someone’s favorite but based on the fit, that someone was not you.  You had a pair of mismatched socks on your feet, a single fingerless glove on your left hand, and a ring on every finger on your right, most of them the engagement variety.
You looked up at him and smiled.  “Thor,” you said warmly.  “Are you lost?”
He smiled, trying to put on the brave face he wore for everyone.  He was strong after all.  The strongest Avengers.  If he showed weakness, then he’d be someone who wasn’t Thor, the god of thunder.
“Yes,” he said.  “No.  That is… maybe.”
You stepped aside and he ducked his head under the door frame and entered your cottage.  It was impossibly large inside what had seemed like a tiny building.  It was cluttered in the sense that a hoarder who hadn’t left the house for fifty years except to bring more things in, is cluttered.  There were stacks of parcels that were addressed to other people, baskets full of socks that lacked a pair, toys, and pacifiers that looked sad and weathered, bowls sat on top of every flat surface full of jewelry in many shapes, sizes, and styles.
Thor wound his way through until he found a couch.  It had seen better days and he had to move a one-eyed teddy bear to take a seat.
“Can I get you a drink?  I have tea or coffee?  Not much else I’m afraid,” you offered.
“Coffee,” Thor said.  He wasn’t sure he really wanted it, but he was grateful for the opportunity to get his thoughts in order.
The sound of you puttering around in the kitchen was the only sound at all.  Thor thought of all the things he had lost and exactly why he had come here.  When you returned he still wasn’t quite sure what he was going to say.  You handed Thor a mug.  It was black with the silhouette of a penguin on it with the words ‘LINUX, open mind, open-source’ written on it.  You had a teacup, it was floral and had gold around the rim.
“The coffee is Kopi Luak,” you said as he took the mug from you.  “It was confiscated in New Zealand customs and ended up here.”
“Kopi Luak?”  Thor asked.
You shook your head and sat down beside him.  “The beans are passed through the stomach of an animal called a Civit before being harvested and roasted.  I can’t say I approve of the process, but I am limited to what passes through here,” you explained.  “Now, what is it you’ve lost?”
“My brother…”  Thor said, the word coming out quickly like it was determined to jump its place in his mental queue.
“Oh, Thor,” you said, putting your hand on his.  “I deal with lost things.  People?  They are above my jurisdiction.  The prayers for lost people are more for your realm than this one.”
Thor sagged and put his cup down.  He ran his hands through his hair the pain and frustration he felt almost overwhelming him.  “There’s been so much.  Too much.  My whole family.  My friends.  Asgard is gone.  I don’t know where to go or what to do.  I feel lost and I don’t know how to find my way back out.”
You took his hand.  His large palms dwarfed yours.  “Thor, I am a minor god,” you said.  “What you have been through is awful and if I could help I would, but I deal in socks and loose change.  Your identity is yours.  You still have it.  It’s here -“ you touched his forehead and moved your hand to his chest just above his heart.  “- and here.”
Tears pricked Thor’s eyes and he wiped them away in frustration. “I don’t want to feel this way anymore.”
“That I can understand too well,” you said.  You wrapped your arms around him and very gradually he let himself sag into your arms.  “You are very young,” you said quietly.  “It is a large burden to carry.  Can I give you some advice?  I can’t promise it will be good.”
“Please,” he said, his voice cracking with the desperation he felt.
“Grieve, Thor,” you said.  “It isn’t weak to love people.  It isn’t weak to feel pain at their loss.  Let yourself have your sorrow.  Feel it.  Let it out.  I am a god on a planet of mortals.  I have lost more than has ever come to me.  They were your parents and your brother.  Your friends.  Your home.  You loved them all and now they are gone.  That is terrible.  It’s terrible, Thor.  They didn’t deserve that and neither did you.  Grieve.  Feel sad.  Cry.  Wail.  Scream.  If you don’t experience your grief, you lose more of yourself than you can possibly know.”
“I am the strong one,” Thor said.  “I can’t show such weakness.”
“There is nothing weak about experiencing your emotions,” you said gently, your fingers tangling into his hair and massaging his scalp.  “Besides, who do you need to be strong for now.  It is just me here, everyone else is gone.”
He wrapped a large arm around your lap and he started to cry.  It started small and silent, his tears just running down his cheek as he pressed his face into your lap.  Soon he was crying in big wracking sobs.  He cried for his mother and his father.  He cried for Loki.  For Jane.  He cried for Heimdal and Fandral and Volstagg.  For Asgard, the home where he grew up and had so many happy memories.  He cried for the people he couldn’t save and for the ones he did that he let down when he didn’t have the strength to lead them.  He cried for dwarves on Nidavellir and for Mjolnir the weapon they had forged him and was like a friend in of itself.  He cried for Natasha and Tony.  And for the fact that one day he would lose all the rest too.
You held him, never once telling him to quiet.  You just let him cry in your arms, your fingers moving over his scalp and caressing his hair.
As the tears slowed and then stopped he felt a strange sense of relief.  He didn’t feel better, but lighter perhaps.  He sat up and wiped his eyes.  “Thank you.”
“You have nothing to thank me for,” you assured him.  “Come; there is something I have which might interest you.”
You got up and he followed after you.  You led him past more parcels and piles of letters.  They started to appear yellowed with age and as he wound through the room the artifacts got older too.  Barrels of spice and coins from countries that no longer existed.  Looms of silks that had been damaged by saltwater.  You stopped at a table.  It was remarkably bare except for a piece of velvet draped over a small pile in the middle.  You lifted the plush fabric and revealed a pile of broken metal and what was clearly the handle of Mjolnir.  He knew it better than he knew himself. The length that was too short due to Loki’s meddling.  The intricate scrollwork on the cap that held the leather strap he used to keep hold of it.  The dark wood with the silver swirling up its length.  It was his hammer, broken but his.
“Each time you prayed that it could be returned more of it came to me.  There is still some missing but if you want you can stay.  Pray for it at night and I think together we can repair it,” you explained.
“Are you sure you don’t mind?”  Thor asked as he ran his hand over Mjolnir’s handle.
“It would be an honor,” you said, putting your hand on his shoulder.  “It’s been a long time since I’ve had company and it’s never been from someone of your status.”
He turned and looked at you, a frown forming on his face as you smiled up at him.  “I am not a king.”
“I’m not sure that’s true,” you said.  “But if you believe it is, then you are one step closer to finding what you’ve lost and I guess I can help after all.”

Kirishima getting sick with Bakugo semi-nursing him back to health (badly or not🤣) while they're only in a relationship since recently? 👀
(Kiribaku Drabble Prompt) i love bakugou trying to be the best boyfriend he can be <3
Bakugou’s never been a boyfriend before. Not even in middle school, when that one girl had managed to catch enough of his attention for a couple of weeks that he’d actually abandoned the arcade he usually frequented after school and instead had spent a few afternoons at the park with her. And definitely not after he’d gotten accepted into Yuuei.
Being a boyfriend was taxing. Overwhelming. Annoying. It required a lot of things from him that he just did not possess; patience, dependency, communication skills.
All of those things could kiss his ass.
Bakugou’s never been a boyfriend before. So it was quite the punch in the face when Kirishima had appeared beside him in the locker room after training a few days ago, hyped up on nerves and some energy drink Dunceface made him try, practically vibrating even as he lifted his chin up high and asked if Bakugou wanted to go on a date with him – wanted to be boyfriends.
It was even more of a surprise when he couldn’t really find a reason to say no.
Bakugou’s never been a boyfriend before, and neither has Kirishima, and yet, the redhead seemed to have a natural talent for it. The way he squeezed Bakugou’s hand milliseconds before he was about to blow his top; like he could sense when Bakugou was about to lose it. That little squeeze was always so disarming, enough where the anger simmering in his chest retreated just enough to pull him back from the edge, to clear his mind, to remind him that he couldn’t risk getting kicked out of Yuuei. Not now. Not after everything. A little squeeze; I know you’re frustrated right now but I’m here.
And it helped.
Kirishima did that boyfriend shit like it was second nature. He held and squeezed and kissed and teased like it was the easiest thing in the world to let his guard down around someone who could quite literally blow him up at any given moment.
Bakugou’s never been a boyfriend before; but goddamn it if he was going to let Kirishima be better than him at it.
So that’s how he found himself here; standing outside of Kirishima’s dorm room, leaning back against the wall and begrudgingly waiting for Kirishima’s slow ass to get ready for class. He didn’t usually wait for Kirishima before going to class, but after yesterday’s embarrassing spectacle in the damn common area when Kirishima had come back from the gym carrying a fucking bouquet of hand-picked wild flowers that he had then dropped in Bakugou’s lap with a proud smile, well, two could play at that game, and Bakugou always strived to win.
Except now they were late for class and Kirishima still hadn’t come out of his fucking room.
Bakugou snarled. And then he tried not to, because boyfriends don’t do that. And then he snarled anyway, because Bakugou’s never been a boyfriend before and what the fuck was taking his dumbass so long to get ready?
He pushed himself away from the wall and stalked up to the door before he pounded on it with an angry – loving – fist.
“Kirishima, what the hell are you fucking doing in there? We’re fucking late!” Bakugou barked – with care and concern.
For a while, silence answered him, and it dawned on him that Kirishima might not even be in there. Had he already left for class? Fuck, the one day Bakugou actually waited and Kirishima might already be sitting at his desk, frowning and wondering where he was. But then he heard a loud sniffle echo out of the room, a few shuffled footsteps, and the door swung open to reveal a red-nosed Kirishima, who squinted at him through blurry eyes as though the lights in the hallway were too bright for him to focus on.
Bakugou blinked at him, taken aback by his sweaty forehead and half-lidded gaze. “What the fuck?”
Kirishima coughed horridly into his elbow before he attempted a smile, his already tinted cheeks burning a shade darker.
“S-sorry, I was gonna text you but – “ he coughed again, louder this time. Bakugou took an instinctive step backwards. “I forgot. I don’t feel so good.”
“Well.”
“Huh?”
Bakugou glared at him. “You don’t feel well, you fucking idiot.”
Okay, he was supposed to be doing something here. Kirishima quite literally looked like he might kneel over and die on the floor by his feet, and he was a boyfriend now, which meant he was supposed to be doing something here. He stared at Kirishima hard, as though the answer might magically appear on his face somewhere.
“Oh, yeah. Sorry.” Kirishima chuckled, raspy and low. The baggy t-shirt he wore seemed to stick to his skin. “You can just tell Aizawa-sensei I won’t make it. Bring me back some soup from the cafeteria later, yeah?” And then he was closing the door.
Bakugou scowled and shoved his foot in the opening before it could click shut. “The fuck shithead, you’re just gonna stay holed up in there all damn day?”
Kirishima blinked at him, mouth parted in a little ‘o’ as his groggy brain tried to process words. “Uh, I mean… I can’t go to class and get everybody sick. That wouldn’t be very manly.”
Bakugou scowled harder, his eyebrows notching down to meet in an aggravated sort of manner. A whole day without shithead? Who the fuck was he supposed to spar with during training? When Bakugou got sick, he usually sucked it up and went to class anyway, cause there was no way in hell he was going to fall behind just because his nose was fucking runny. But Kirishima kind of looked like death right now and fuck, Bakugou was supposed to be doing something here.
“You should probably get going,” Kirishima said awkwardly, when the silence had stretched on for far too long and Bakugou still hadn’t moved his foot from the doorway or loosened the tight expression on his face. “Aizawa-sensei is gonna be mad and I would hate it if you got in trouble because of – “ He dissolved into another cacophony of wheezing and sniffling into his elbow. Gross.
Bakugou sighed a harsh breath through his flared nostrils and finally pulled his foot back. Dammit. He knew what he was supposed to do.
Without another word, he turned and stalked away, leaving a stunned Kirishima to look after him.
-
This was stupid. He should definitely be in class right now. The very thought of it had him sneering and growling deep in his throat as he pounded angrily – lovingly and patiently – on Kirishima’s door forty minutes later.
There was a loud grunt and groan, followed by the sound of something thudding to the ground, and Bakugou just barely kept himself from rolling his eyes. Boyfriends don’t roll their eyes, even when their boyfriends were fucking dumbasses, he had to remind himself.
A few moments later, the door cracked open again and Kirishima peered out. For a second, they just stared at each other, Kirishima’s glassy eyes growing a bit wider while Bakugou’s face proceeded to feel like it might burst into flames like IcyHot’s damn quirk.
Kirishima blinked stupidly at him. “Wha-”
“Fucking let me in,” Bakugou barked – with affection – as he gripped the edges of the tray in his hands tighter, definitely not to stop himself from anxiously tapping.
Kirishima complied, probably too doped up on decongestants and a fever to protest. Bakugou barreled his way inside. He shoved a couple of haphazardly stacked textbooks aside before he slammed the tray onto the desk, working hard not to look in Kirishima’s direction, whose bewildered gaze continued to burn into him.
Kirishima appeared by his side, wrapped tight in his camouflage comforter, his red hair was lacking any kind of product but it still stuck up in random directions, looking a lot more like Bakugou’s hair than he’d like to admit. Kirishima blinked down at the tray, the ghost of a smile pulling at his chapped lips.
“You… made me soup? And tea?” He sounded reserved and hopeful.
Bakugou tried not to growl. Boyfriends don’t growl, dammit.
“Well it’s fucking not for me, is it?” He snapped – because boyfriends can snap sometimes – before he shoved Kirishima over to the bed and forced him to sit.
“You better not fucking tell anyone about this,” he grumbled under his breath as he snatched up the mug of tea and held it out for him, eyes glaring out the balcony door, which had been cracked open to let the chilly morning breeze filter into the room.
Warm, clammy fingers grabbed the mug, trapping Bakugou’s hand against the hot porcelain, and Bakugou’s eyes snapped away to look at Kirishima, whose face – despite being tinged red and sweaty – was soft and stupid, smiling at him like he’d just blasted off into orbit and grabbed a damn star for him.
“I wouldn’t ever. This is just for me, right?” Kirishima beamed, and he still looked pretty, even when he was a goddamn mess.
Bakugou’s shoulders relaxed, just a little. “Yeah, idiot. You’re my stupid boyfriend aren’t ya?”
Kirishima’s smile grew impossibly wider. “And you’re the best boyfriend!”
And then he dissolved into another coughing fit. Bakugou wretched his hand away and some of the tea dribbled down the side of the mug, over Kirishima’s fingers, and onto the floor. Bakugou cussed, and Kirishima laughed at him, and later, Aizawa-sensei would ream them both for not informing anyone that they wouldn’t be attending lessons that day, but Bakugou found that he didn’t so much care.
He was the best goddamn boyfriend, and that felt like enough of a victory for today.

THE COMMANDER - MASTERLIST
-----
“You’re gonna love him. He’s gold.”
“Then why am I only hearing about him just now?”
“He was based in Sokovia.”
“Sokovia?”
Slade enthusiastically pushed the double doors open. Deathstroke, the Arkham Knight, and the Commander stormed down the empty halls, all the way down to the combat grounds where Slade said this new recruit was waiting.
“How’d you get him to join the militia?” Commander Y/N asked. Slade didn’t turn. “He came to Venezuela for some other shit. Asked him if he wanted the extra cash.”
“The amount this guy is asking for definitely isn’t extra cash,” the Knight’s eerie voice filtered.
“He was Hydra’s best man. What do you expect?”
The Commander’s eyes shot up. “HYDRA???”
At the sight of their superiors the men’s muffled voices faded out, and there were salutes, whispers, and shushes. Slade led them into the crowded combat grounds where several of her men were in the middle of sparring sessions. The Commander nodded at them to carry on.
And when they went further into a flock of soldiers circling a rather familiar figure standing in the middle, Commander Y/N felt her whole bodily system stiffen in cold ice. The long, ruffled hair. The metal arm. The machine gun strapped to his shoulder. There was no denying it.
“Barnes.”
He turned around.
Slade placed his arm on his shoulder. “Knight. Our newest recruit. The Winter Sold-“
“BUCKY?!”
Everyone turned their heads at the Commander. Bucky Barnes, the said prized soldier, lost his calm, brooding façade the minute he locked into Y/N’s eyes and shot up with the same astounded gape on his face. Bucky removed the mask covering his mouth. “Y/N???”
One. Two. Three painfully long seconds.
Not one person in that room dared to move a muscle.
“Uh,” Slade stepped in between them. “You folks know each other?”
The Commander ran her teeth through her lips and coughed out the itch in her neck. She looked away from everyone’s prying eyes.
Bucky did the same. “We, uh-“
“I was called into Sokovia about a year ago,” the Commander started. “Bucky- The Winter Soldier here needed a sniper to cover him on a few melee assassinations.”
“So Hydra hired Y/N,” Bucky continued. “We worked together.”
The Knight turned his visor at the Commander, who was too occupied biting back a smile as she stared at Bucky. He looked just as irresistibly rugged as the last time she saw him.
Slade managed a laugh. “Whatever. Knight, give him everything he wants. We don’t know how long he can stay but let’s just hope it’s after we finish in Gotham. I’ll leave you to it.” Then Deathstroke left.
Bucky held his AK with his other hand and extended his impressive metal arm at the Arkham Knight. He stepped in, head held high, then took it.
“The Winter Soldier.”
“That’s what they call me.”
Y/N looked at Bucky, at the Knight, then bit both her lips.
“Nice arm.”
“Mmm,” Bucky growled.
“Decent profile as well,” the Knight said. “Experienced. Heavily trained. Been here for the last few decades. You a metahuman?”
“Super soldier.” Bucky held his gun tighter, looking straight at the Knight’s visor. “Hydra’s serum.”
The Commander didn’t know if the Knight’s groan that followed was from being impressed or repulsed at that.
“Sergeant Whitman will show you to your quarters. We have a few weeks left here before we head to Gotham. Tomorrow, you show us what you got. Then I decide where to put you and your terms.”
“Slade and I already settled my price.”
“I think your price is preposterous.”
“I was told your militia needed a guy like me badly.”
“I’ve never even heard of you until today,” the Knight said.
“Either I get what Wilson promised me or I go.”
“I get the final say.”
Bucky stepped forward. “I’m not here to negotiate.”
“Neither am I.”
“For fuck’s sake,” The Commander pushed on the Knight’s armored chest. “Beckett. End the sparring. We’re done for the day.”
The Sergeant saluted Commander Y/N and went over to the soldiers at the grounds.
“Knight,” her voice lowered. “Be nice.”
“So you worked with the Commander?” the Knight crossed his arms.
“Commander, huh?” Bucky smiled at Y/N. She smiled back with a bite in her lip.
“For how long?”
“A week. In the deserted high mountains just outside of Sokovia,” she said in a weirdly high-pitched tone, as if she were sighing, yearning for the times.
“Deserted?”
“It was just us two,” Y/N said.
Bucky was still eyeing the Commander up and down with a quirk up his brow. “You really leading this army, Y/N?”
“Were you expecting any less?” she smirked.
“My god, you haven’t lost your touch, kitten-“
“KITTEN?!” The Knight stammered. Y/N side eyed the Knight and rolled her eyes, before grinning back at Bucky.
By then, almost everyone in the grounds had left. The Knight, glaring at the both of them behind his visor, stepped back and scoffed. “Just get him to his quarters.”
“Oh, I will…” she breathed, her eyes locked into Bucky’s. He strapped his gun to his back and reached over to Y/N. By then, they heard the doors slam closed and they were alone.
The Commander joyously yelped as she wrapped her arms around Bucky’s neck, letting him carry her up in the air in a tight bear hug. His metal arm was careful around her waist, and with a smile just as bright as hers, he laughed. Even as he placed her back down on the ground, Y/N continued to hold him close.
“God, I missed you.”
“Never thought I’d see you again.”
“You’re the one who left, jackass.”
“Sorry,” he ran his metal finger down her neck. “You know how it is-“
“I know,” she whispered. “Are you coming with us to Gotham?”
“Hope so. What’s with the Batman mock up?”
“The Arkham Knight. He put this all together,” she said. “Some revenge plot against Batman he won't say.”
He snorted. “Figures.”
“How…” she raised her arms in astonishment. “I thought you wouldn’t be able to remember me.”
“I got out of Hydra just after our mission. They didn’t get to brainwash out that very memorable week-“
“Memorable, huh?” she smiled. “You have to stay, Buck. The Militia definitely could use a guy like you.”
“Well,” he cupped her jaw, then his long hair fell to his cheeks the way that made her head spin in circles. “Now that I know you're here, I just might.”
She leaned in, inhaled that musky, rugged scent that sent her guts flying and her eyes glancing down at his lips. “Wanna hang out in my room?”
“You sure that Knight fella’s not gonna mind?”
“Mind?” she laughed.
“Come on, don’t hide it, kitten. You’re sleeping together.”
She punched his good arm and he chuckled. “Lower your fucking voice.”
“Shit,” he smirked. “Seems like you have a type.”
“We did it once. And we promised not to do it again.”
“Ah. At least I had you for a whole week-“
“Have I ever told you how hard it was firing a mile away from my target with you breathing down my neck?” she said.
“Kitten, I definitely wasn’t just breathing.”
Bucky traced his thumb down her lip, but Y/N pulled away. “My room. Not here.”
She stopped herself from holding his hand on the way back up to the quarters, especially when there were men around who could have seen them. Bucky was just as gorgeous as he had been. His big blue eyes, incredibly muscled build, his long, scruffy hair she still fantasized running her fingers through. And Though he wasn’t as tall as the Knight, he looked just as equally terrifying, menacing, intimidating,
And painfully hot.
They reached the Commander’s quarters and locked the door. The minute it was safe, Y/N pushed Bucky against the wall and kissed him as violently as she were beating him up. “Fuck, I missed this…”
They tore off each other’s armor. His metal arm, snaking up her back to trace the line of her spine, she let him grab onto her ass, then the back of her thighs, before hoisting her up around his hips.
She cried as her ass hit the table, and Bucky cleared everything on the surface. She threw her head back, legs spread wide, and let the brewing hotness in the air take over her core.
Fuck, did she miss that metal arm.
-----
One hundred men. The first batch out of a few others. They were lined up just beneath a string of trees and shade at the edge of a wide-open field, a few minutes away from the barracks where they’d fixed a training ground out of crates, barrels, and sacks stacked on one another. The day was bright, not a cloud watching from above. It was large enough to be the size of a football field, and usually they came here for shooting ranges and obstacle courses.
The Arkham Knight stood in the middle, arms tucked behind his back. The Commander was at his side standing straight and tall.
“If you are here, it means you’re not as well-trained as the others,” the Knight continued with his speech that had been going on for the last few minutes. “All of you should know that the alpha target isn’t the only threat to worry about. There will be thugs around Gotham. The GCPD. And you’re all gonna have to fight each other. After our demonstration, it will be you against everyone else. In batches of ten, you will fight in this field-“ the Knight pointed. “And the last man standing gets to move up a rank.
“New guy. Get over here.”
Bucky clenched his jaw, walked over from his place leaning against one of the tree trunks, then stood right beside the Commander. She smirked.
“It’s me versus the Commander versus the Winter Soldier. You can use your guns. Just make sure you keep away from the head.”
The most dangerous type of training session there was. But only if it were with anybody else than the three.
The Commander pulled out her AK from her back, pulled on the barrel while cocking her hip. Bucky licked his lips while staring at her and did the same with his own gun.
The Knight, noticing it all, screamed. “Get to it!”
“Good luck,” Bucky whispered into her ear.
The air was a smoky, earthy musk, one that calmed her nerves the way she needed them to with her eye dead focused onto the scope. A few minutes had passed, and still there was silence. The Commander walked into a pile of sacks and waited patiently for any whip of a sound.
She heard gun shots. A few yards away. The Commander hopped onto the pile and caught sight of the Knight just narrowly missing Bucky’s metal fist aiming for his head. She pointed her gun at them and fired at their legs.
They noticed in time, fleeing to cover at the racket her bullets were making flying everywhere in the field. She reloaded her gun, eye on her scope, then fired at the wooden cover she saw the Knight roll into. But he wasn’t there.
She turned to her left, and just as she saw Bucky aiming right at her, she rolled down the heaps of sacks and landed on her back. Sparing no time to pull herself up, she hid behind the pile and stretched her neck. The Commander laid her head back, listened for any more gunshots, and once she heard more, no longer aiming at her, she crawled out.
She made sure her back was covered, then continued maneuvering through the field. Following the sounds of the Knight’s guns, she crouched over and held tightly onto her AK.
She was sure she’ll catch sight of the Knight at just a sharp turn to her right, where a barrel was covering her just barely.
The gun fire stopped. He was reloading. Commander Y/N stepped out and opened fire.
Bucky had gone away, and it was just the Knight, taking cover at one of the crates. Just a split second after the Knight held out his gun and fired back. So she hid, holding the gun with just her one hand and blindly fired at the crate.
Except, she wasn’t exactly blind. Not with her.
At the sound of the Knight’s faint hiss, the Commander smirked.
More gun shots. Coming from her far right. Bucky was on top of the barrels and was opening fire at both her and the Knight. She rolled over to a cement block and reloaded what was left of her gun. The Knight, no longer where she left him, had gone. But Bucky was firing at a pile of sacks near her. He must be there in hiding.
But she couldn’t go after him. Not with Bucky on watch.
The Commander crawled under covers where the Winter Soldier wouldn’t be able to see her, moving so quietly he must’ve thought she hadn’t left at all. She reached his right. Far enough to be out of his line of sight.
She whistled at him, then fired at his metal arm. The bullets bounced off him but it wasn’t without flinching at the impact. The Commander hid behind a crate just as Bucky turned his attention to her and rolled his shoulder. “You're gonna regret that!”
“Sure!”
Bang. Bang. Bang.
Bullet after bullet. Bucky kept on his heightened stance, with Commander Y/N barely being able to get away from her cover. She managed to land a bullet or two on his arm again, but it only delayed him by a few seconds before he’d start firing again.
She peered over, ever so slightly just to see where he was, then the Commander saw the Arkham Knight creep over from behind him, landing a good punch right at Bucky’s face to send him toppling over to the ground.
Her AK was out of bullets. She had to throw it out. The Commander pulled out her two pistols, loaded them, then stepped out into the open.
She rolled on the ground just narrowly avoiding the Knight’s shots at her, firing a few of her own when she could. The Commander hid behind barrels. They were so close to each other. And it was impossible to run away now. The Knight started firing at Bucky, who was firing at her. She had one chance.
The Commander waited for that one moment where Bucky had to reload before running up the tallest pile of sacks standing between the two, vertically until she was up in the air, then she flipped over so fast, not a single bullet came close to her body. Her arms outstretched, her eyes making the quickest glances, she fired both guns.
Two shots. It was all it took. She managed to hit Bucky’s metal shoulder and the Knight’s ankle. They both hissed and stopped for the one split second she needed, then she fired at their hands. Both guns dropped to the grass.
When she got to the ground, she grabbed one of the sacks, threw it at Bucky, then used her leg to swipe at the Knight’s discarded gun and fling it across the field. Bucky was on the ground, and just as he stood up, his gun had been thrown away as well.
The Commander, the only one left armed, held her guns at both of them. The Arkham Knight on her left, the Winter Soldier on her right.
“I win,” she panted.
But, instead of holding their arms up to surrender, the Knight and Bucky looked at her, then at each other. She would have moved if she was expecting them to conspire.
Bucky was first to charge, but his metal hand blocked her incoming bullets at almost every direction she fired. The Knight took it as a chance to grab her wrist, hold it up in the air before she could fire. Then the Commander elbowed her way out of his grip. He squeezed on her hand, painfully so until she lost her hold on the gun, then the Knight threw it out of the way.
With just one gun left, she aimed it at the Knight, arms up to surrender.
Then Bucky grabbed her in a headlock and kneed her down until she could no longer stand. She grunted, but his fucking metal arm was like trying to move a cement wall off the ground. The Knight charged after her.
Then she used his brick-wall like body to hoist her legs up, pushing her feet against his armor so her boots eventually made their way up to the Knight’s visor. Locking her knees on his head, she head-butted Bucky until he released her from his grip. Her hands landed on the ground, then she flipped over to fling the Knight to the grass, landing on his head.
She won't last so long. Not without her guns. These men will beat her at combat into a bloody fucking pulp.
She dodged, rolled, and backed away before either of them could land a hit. She saw Bucky grab a sack with his one metal arm, then he flung it over to her, sending her flying until her back met a crate. “Fuck!”
“How’d that feel, kitten?!”
The Knight, his words angering him even more, charged after Bucky and pinned his arm down his throat, all the way until his back hit the pile of sacks. It burst beneath him and a cloud of dust started flying across the air.
Thankfully, Bucky had his mask on and the Knight had his visor.
The Knight continued to push down on his neck. Bucky choked, struggled for some air, then his leg came flying up until he kneed his stomach. He grabbed the Knight by the jaw, flipped them over until he was the one pinned to the wall, then threw his arm back.
The Knight barely dodged it, and his metal fist tore a hole through the sacks.
Fuck.
He kicked him off, then the two started throwing punches and kicks and everything they could at each other, Bucky barely being able to block almost every throw the Knight hit and the latter holding onto the last of his armor to endure his stronger punches.
Bucky grabbed him by the throat, but the Knight flipped over and kicked him in the face. Bucky’s body was thrown into the barrels and broke everything in its path.
He got up, cracking his neck, then stared the Knight down.
“You sure you're enhanced?” the Knight’s filtered voice growled.
“Oh, we’re just getting started.”
The Arkham Knight and the Winter Soldier charged after the other, dust parting as they epically ran, their arms thrown back.
Then they were both flying in the air as a barrel of gun powder exploded in between them.
Commander Y/N, smirking her face off as she stood at the highest point above the piles of crates, blew on the muzzle of an AK she found.
The Knight skidded across the ground, and Bucky spat a ball of dirt from his mouth. They crawled and hoisted themselves up with the crates.
She slid off to the floor, running before they could run up to her, then she threw her ammo-less gun to the grass and frantically searched for a place to hide.
Bucky. He ran to her front. The Commander stopped and swallowed. And when she turned around, the Knight was there, cracking his knuckles.
“This should be fun,” she said.
She threw her elbow at the Knight’s visor, lightly cracking it but not enough to have any sort of impact beneath, then Commander Y/N ducked just as Bucky threw his fist at her torso. She slid her leg at his knees, slightly toppling him over. Her back shot up, then she stepped onto a sack to give her the leverage she needed to fly up in the air, spin with her leg out and kick both their heads in one swift move.
Bucky, with his immense superhuman strength, grabbed her leg and flung her all the way to the sacks further dispersing the dust all around the air. She groaned as she hit the floor, rolled over before the Knight could land a kick, then her leg flew to his visor once again, gaining another crack. She felt Bucky come up behind her, so she ducked, grabbed the Knight by his back, then used him as a shield against the metal arm coming right for his chest.
Both the Knight and the Commander flew across the floor.
Before she could stand, throwing the Knight off her body, she saw her pistols on the ground not far from her.
“That fucking arm,” the Knight growled. He stood up, his fist going after Bucky’s head, only to be stopped stiff cold by his hand. The Knight groaned, arm shaking at his reluctance to pull away. Bucky kept holding his fist and eyed the Knight down, now being able to look at him in the eye with the visor’s cover faltering.
The Commander grabbed both their heads, slammed them against each other, then unlatched their fists on each other before either of them could move.
On and on, they waltzed. The Commander could only dodge and duck under Bucky’s arm knowing she couldn’t in any way match his strength, and in doing so, maneuvered those punches so they’d land on the Knight instead. In turn, she did the same to the Knight’s punches at Bucky. The Knight kept at her, trying to get hold of her, and managing to grab her into a headlock once or twice and pinning her to the ground.
Bucky grabbed the Knight by the neck, held him up in the air, then threw his whole body right at the Commander, who locked her legs around the Knight’s neck trying to dismantle his visor. The Knight purposely fell to the ground, further injuring Y/N, then in a swift move, she stood up, grabbed her guns from her holsters, and aimed at them both.
The Knight stood on his knees.
And Bucky on his feet, ready to swing his arm at the first one who moves. They paused.
For seconds, none of them moved.
The Commander smiled.
They heard cheers from the men outside the field, chanting their names like they would to an athlete in a game.
The Commander lowered her guns, wiped the sweat off her forehead and smugly spun the firearms around her fingers.
“Next time,” the Knight stood on his feet, then walked over to Y/N. “No more guns.”
“I do just fine without them.”
“Keep telling that to yourself, kitten-“
The Knight stepped in between her and Bucky. “She is your commander. Stop calling her that.”
“I call her whatever she wants me to call her.”
“You want another hit to the gut, jackass?”
“You can try-“
“I can shoot both of you in the head right now if you don’t stop.” The Commander held out both her guns again.
The two men kept their silence, backed away, then walked back out of the field with their heads down without failing to give each other that side glare.
The Knight went over to walk beside the Commander.
“Y/N-“
“Don’t even go there, you ass,” she snarled.
“He’s overstepping his fucking boundaries.”
She faked a laugh. “That’s the Winter Soldier. He’s just like me. He’s just like Deathstroke. And you have no idea just how much he’s exactly like you. And he has tons of experience over any of us in this fucking country. So if you want your militia to have better chances at actually taking over an entire goddamn city, I suggest you suck up your childish jealousy and get over it.”
“I’m not jealous.”
“Shut up. We slept together. So what?”
“You talking about me or the hundred-year-old man?”
“Both,” the Commander glared at him, then turned over to walk by Bucky’s side. The Knight looked like he wanted to strangle everything, even a damn puppy.
“Alright,” she said to her men. “Who wants to go next?”
-----
Booze. She found a stash in the Knight’s room days ago and had brought over few into her quarters. Once or twice she sneaks a sip, especially on days like these. She laid on the foot of her bed, leaning against the mattress, and Bucky was right by her side with his own bottle stuck to his mouth like a baby’s pacifier.
“Do super soldiers even get drunk?” the Commander asked.
“The Hydra serum was a rip-off so it doesn’t give me the full effects. I get drunk. But only after four or five times any human person can possibly take,” he laughed. “But until now I barely remember anything other than my name anyway so everyday feels like I’m having a fucking hangover.”
“Being brainwashed must suck.”
“You don’t know the half of it.”
She took a swig from her bottle, and her mind started to create that familiar buzzing fog that took off the pain in her joints greater than any painkiller she could take.
“I’m so glad you’re here,” she touched the tip of her bottle onto Bucky’s nose. “I was starting to get bored.”
“And stressed out. I remember how much you asked me to-“
The Commander bit on his ear, and Bucky laughed before pecking her lips.
“You drunk now?”
“Well,” he looked at the clock. “We’ve been at this for five hours now. So yeah, I think I am-HIC.”
Y/N grabbed his hair, pulled him to her side and started heavily making out with his booze-scented lips. He held her neck, her shoulders, then he trailed down her hips and squeezed as lightly as he could with his steel fingers pushing into her skin. She moaned, and now that she was out of her suit and in her bed clothes, Bucky teased under her waistband.
“Mmm,” she moaned against his lips. “Please-“
“Shh…”
The metal arm. The one thing she still dreamed about every night she could the past year. Her eyes rolled to the back of her head when Bucky reached under her panties, cupped her pussy like it was so delicately breakable, and started hovering the steel over her clit and folds. “Fuck…”
“Fucking miss this, kitten?”
“Yes…” she grabbed the mattress behind her, grinded onto the steel like it was a vibrator and felt the ripples into her core. Bucky, eyes red and obviously drunk, kissed her neck and collarbone and shifted so he was sitting in front of her. Y/N spread her legs wide and bit off a scream when Bucky teased her hole.
He started removing her shorts, taking her panties along with it. With the cold air fanning out her cunt, she got even wetter when Bucky leaned in raised her shirt to kiss all over her chest, then crouched over on the ground to kiss down her stomach and pelvis.
Bucky kept his metal hand on her wetness, lathering them all over, then his lips kissed down to her clit. He encircled his mouth around it, gently sucking as his hardened tongue flicked all over it. She screamed out his name, then Bucky inserted two fingers inside her. “Fuck!”
He kept going, mouth on her clit, fingers inside her pussy. The sweet, warm metal contrasting greatly against her flesh. She saw the same stars she always did every time she remembered how Bucky Barnes had given her the best cunninglingus in all of history. She shielded her mouth with her arm, biting into her skin.
BAM!
The door. Only one knock served as a warning, then a strong hand pried it open despite the lock. Bucky shot up and Y/N shielded her bottom with her arms.
The Arkham Knight, in nothing else but a red hoodie and jeans, leaned against the doorway with his own bottle of booze in hand. He didn’t flinch nor look even the slightest bit bothered at the sight before him, and instead rolled his eyes as the two scrambled to cover. He drank from his bottle.
“What the fuck!?”
“You took my booze.”
“Get out.”
“Give me my booze back.”
“Bucky drank it all up.”
Bucky leaned against the bed beside Y/N and snarled at the Knight, who glared back. Y/N pulled her shorts back up. “Don’t have to do that, kitten.”
“Stop fucking calling her kitten.”
“You wanna know why I call her that, asshole?”
“Enlighten me,” the Knight growled.
“’Cuz of the way she just mewls when I use this hand right here-“
“Trust me, I know what she fucking sounds like.”
“You did it with her once, jackass. You don’t know the half of it.”
“Just as I said,” Y/N groaned, pinching between her eyes. “I have an entire armory’s worth of guns stashed in that closet right there and I’m not fucking afraid to use them on either of you morons.”
They both scoffed.
The Knight looked just as drunk as the both of them. And despite Y/N telling him to go out, the Knight walked in, shut the door behind him, then made his way to her bed like he owned the place. He sat down and finished up his bottle, placing it on the ground, then collapsed on the mattress.
Y/N, incredibly horny and her head boiling beyond reason, turned her head over to Bucky.
“I really wanna fuck but this guy’s like a fucking boulder.”
“We can continue. Right here. Fuck that guy.”
“I can fucking hear you,” the Knight groaned, hand over his eyes.
“GOOD!” Bucky called out. “Come on…”
He started kissing Y/N’s neck, but she pushed him away. She’s seen the Knight like this a few times. And only her. Not many got to see his face at all. And when he was like this, hoodie over his head smelling like stale rainwater, she knew something went on. Y/N stood up, ruffling Bucky’s hair as he leaned against the mattress with his eyes closed, then walked over to stand in front of the Knight.
He took his arm off his head, eyed her with his eyes tightly squinted like she was too bright a light in the midst of complete darkness, then propped himself up his elbows. The Commander crossed her arms and took him in.
So hot…
The Knight, slowly, and with his head looking like it was about to topple away from his body, leaned over to Y/N and placed his arms over his knees so he could duck down. Y/N, without thinking much, took hold of his head and craned it up.
His eyes weren’t blank, but they weren’t so expressive either. She couldn’t tell what it was he was thinking, or feeling. But his skin felt burning hot under her touch. She took a step forward, still holding his head.
Then she kissed him.
It wasn’t like kissing Bucky. It never had been. He was rougher, so eager to take her and all of her for himself with the movements of his tongue. Bucky was softer and kinder, but all the more wanting.
And in so many ways, they were different, yet eerily the same. They were both, in the worst way possible, taken away from any sort of their humanity, twisted, hurt, bent, until they were no longer in that sane, human demeanor with so much antagonism to show for the world. Nothing but anger. Borderline villains. Brooding bad boys. Dark hair. Blue eyes.
Okay. Maybe she did have a type.
She breathed in, heavy deep breaths, then started to deepen the kiss into something so much more longing. The Knight had his hands on her waist, pulling her to the bed. And on her knees, she went with him, never leaving his lips. The Knight started to lean back, wanting to pull her with him.
But she broke the kiss and gasped as Bucky grabbed her from behind, metal arm around her torso. He kissed her neck, biting, sucking. Y/N leaned against his shoulder and grabbed onto his hair, pulling him to her lips.
And if she weren’t wrong, she swore she felt the Knight growl beneath his breath. He ended up taking his shirt off. They were probably eyeing each other down for all she cared. She kissed Bucky, moaning too hard when his good hand snaked up her shirt, pulling it up. She happily obliged.
When her shirt left her skin, and without a bra in sight, the Knight swooped in and took her lips in his before Bucky could do anything. Y/N started to inch forward, moving the Knight with her, then Bucky took his shirt off and moved over to the bed with them, on his knees, pressing his chest against Y/N’s back just as the Knight as pushing his chest against Y/N’s front.
Holy fuck.
The two hottest men in the fucking universe. And she was sandwiched between them.
Hooooly fuck.
She threw her head back, breathing, moaning inaudible cries. Bucky started for her shoulder licking all the way up her neck, and the Knight pulled on her waist to have at it with her chest, her tits, her nipples sticking out at the burning touches happening all around her. She turned her head back, kissed Bucky while moaning when the Knight slightly bit on her nipples.
She pulled away, grabbed the Knight so she could kiss him on the lips, then Bucky started reaching over her cunt with his metal hand, making her jolt and bite onto the Knight’s lip at the sting of the steel rubbing over her clit like a goddamn vibrator. He kissed her neck, and the Knight bit on her ear. She was on fire. She never felt so alive. Everything was hot. Sweaty. Deep, heavy breaths filing the otherwise silent air.
She pulled away from both of them. She was in control. She could tell with the look on their eyes glaring at the other and worshipping her, determined to make her feel better than the other one ever could. Y/N traced her finger on Bucky’s cheek. “Eat me out, Buck.”
“My pleasure.”
“And you,” she pulled on the Knight’s chest, smirking as he went with it. “I want your cock.”
The Knight grabbed the back of her neck, kissed her so hard she would have fallen over, but she pulled away so she could lie down, Bucky already kneeling in front of her, breath ghosting over her thighs. The Knight pulled down his pants, pulled out his incredible hard on, then positioned himself right beside Y/N’s head.
Bucky lapped at her achingly wet cunt, the tip of his firm tongue drawing hard circles around her clit and letting his drool add up to her wetness. His metal arm, she could feel resting on her stomach. Y/N looked up at the Knight, looking so desirably at her she could feel her skin burn. Her hand wrapped around his cock, pumping ever so slowly and letting her fingers brush against the tip.
Her other hand was on Bucky’s hair, pulling, then the metal arm now snaked down between her legs and she could feel the cold metal deliciously tickle at the throbbing wetness. She moaned, and to conceal them, she hallowed her mouth out and started sucking on the Knight’s dick. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
She was the only one fully naked. And yet, she felt so much power, surging through her veins at every stroke of Bucky’s fingers curl up inside her, at every suck on her clit, and at the Knight’s cock lodged in her throat, with half of it being held with her shivering palms. She pulled away to scream when Bucky switched over to let his tongue swirl inside her and his metal fingers rubbing her clit, while her hand still pumping the Knight’s cock. The latter ran a hand through her hair, his soft, human hand so hot against her flesh, and she kept his eyes on him as she moaned and filled her mouth up with his cock.
Faster. Faster. She was about to cum. So hard. She closed her eyes shut and made sure the Knight’s cock was still in her throat as the overpowering gushes of a pleasurable waterfall rained down every hot inch of her flesh. Over and over, like the incoming waves of the ocean continuously flowing. Her moans were concealed, but both men kept their eyes on her as she shook hard and gripped the sheets like her life depended on it.
The Knight didn’t even cum yet. She looked up at him, then at Bucky. She was far from being tired. It only made her want more. Fuck, why hasn’t she done this sooner.
Bucky reached over to kiss her, and she sat up, arms around his neck. He pulled her up until she was leaning into him, on her knees, then he unzipped his pants to let his cock spring free.
Then the Knight was against her back, hands on her ass. She started arching her back so much that her ass felt the Knight’s dick rubbing all across her skin while her tits were rubbing so nicely against Bucky’s chest.
She got on her hands and knees, the Knight pumping his cock with her slick while Bucky pulled her hair out of the way so she was facing directly at his cock. The Knight entered inside her first, the long, painfully delicious drag of his cock drawing the sweetest moans out her lips. Bucky leaned in and kissed her, hard, feeling her moans out with the violent swirling of her tongue. She grabbed onto the sheets, feeling her wetness drip down her thighs. And after a few good thrusts, letting her adjust to his size, Bucky pulled away to replace his lips with his twitching cock.
In. Out. In. Out. In either opening. In a sweet, sultry rhythm. Bucky licked his lips and thrusted into her mouth just as the Knight held onto her hips so harshly she knew she was about to bruise when the night ends. His hips snapped into her ass, in a set momentum that only he had the stamina to maintain (other than a super soldier, of course). It felt so good to be so filled up in either ends. With every pull from the Knight, her mouth dragged along Bucky’s cock with it, drawing moans and hisses from the both of them. This was all too overwhelming. The sight of them both. The water seeping through her eyes. How his fucking magical cock did wonders inside her in so many ways she’s never felt before. It was all so… so…
“Fuck!” she screamed, and already, she came. And unlike last time it came to her like one, giant blow to her body that almost whipped her out of her physicality. Everything went white, and all the clouded thoughts in whatever part of her mind they were hiding, it was all washed away for the instant. Every nerve ending made her shiver, and she stiffed. And the boys didn’t seem to notice, as they kept thrusting inside her still.
Y/N held her hand out, stopping them both. The Knight stopped thrusting and Bucky pulled his cock from her mouth. “Fuck, kitten, did you cum already?”
She fell face down onto the sheets, trying to remember her name.
“See,” the Knight said. “I did that.”
“Fuck you, no you didn’t.”
“Am I right, kitten?” the Knight stressed.
“Only ‘cuz I warmed her up, you ass.”
“You two,” she panted. “Shut up. I want you both inside me.”
“Fuck…” Bucky said.
“Holy shit,” the Knight breathed.
Y/N threw herself onto the mattress, on her side. Bucky laid facing her front and wasted no time to have her lips all to himself. The Knight crept up behind her and started sucking onto her neck. Y/N pulled away from Bucky, letting him bite onto her collarbone, then kissed the Knight with every last ounce of strength she had.
She held his jaw, biting his lip, then pulled away so she could look deeply into his eyes.
Bucky inserted his cock into her pussy, and she hissed at that while the Knight kissed her neck.
Then the Knight, his cock wet from her own juices, ever so slowly slipped into her asshole.
The screams she tried so hard to conceal, and failed to do so. Her leg hooked around Bucky, while her arm was around the Knight’s head. He gained his pace, at her pussy that had adjusted yet still fit him inside her so tightly that Bucky groaned with his lips on hers. The Knight, taking his sweet time at the new, foreign feeling of her ass, both for him and her, slowly started to thrust.
The two cocks, moving inside her in amazingly complimenting rhythms, she took turns in kissing either of them and moved her hips to match their movements. She could feel their cocks dragging against each other through the thin wall between them, at the spot that was so overly stimulated, at the feeling of being so filled up, she couldn’t possibly think of anything there was. She could only feel. The fullness. The overwhelming high that seemed to go on and on.
They must have been awfully hard and so at the edge by then, that it no longer took them as long to cum. Bucky came first, filling her up with so much of his cum that she could just feel it drip down along with her own juices. Then when he kept going, she felt the coil. The fast-burning whicker of a bomb already blown out so many times. The Knight came next, her ass practically leaking with his cum even with him still inside her, and for the third time that night, she came.
And fuck, just as she did, everything went white.
She passed out. For a good five minutes, she laid on her bed, panting without another word. The Knight was just as tired as she was, but with Bucky being a super soldier and all, he didn’t seem too bothered.
When she came back to her senses she sent both men out of her room before any of the militia army’s hundreds of men woke up before them.
-----
The Commander never felt so high up in the clouds and so down beneath the cold hard ground at the same time. Other than the horrible hangover that sent her mind practically elsewhere than the barracks, she wanted to hide at all the thoughts surging through her mind at the memories from the night that she somehow remembered almost every detail as if she weren’t drunk at all. If not, the hangover worsened and her face bubbled up into a deeply flushed red.
It was probably going to be the one thing she’ll think of the most the next time she needs something to get off too. But with the fucking Winter Soldier and the fucking Arkham Knight?
The Winter Soldier. And the Arkham Knight.
Well, she was one hell of a woman for having both of them, that was for sure.
Okay. So she didn’t have a single speck of regret.
But it didn’t make the hangover any better.
The Knight was with her at the meeting room, and the whole time Slade talked, neither of them seemed to listen. The Knight, even when he took this militia as seriously as his own life, when it occupied nothing else throughout his whole day and not another thought could overpower, had drunkenly engaged in a threesome last night and was now too stupidly ashamed and hungover to properly think.
“You two. Get some coffee. I’ll be out.” Deathstroke said as he left the room.
The Commander buried her face into her arms and the Knight took off his visor so he could rub his face with his palms.
Her head was burning, and for so long none of them talked nor moved a muscle. The Commander was the first to get up from her chair. “Where’s Bucky?”
“Your boyfriend wasn’t in his quarters this morning.”
She glared at the Knight, then went out the meeting room. Just as she did, Beckett opened the door and caught her just about to leave.
“Commander-“
“Where’s Bucky? The Winter Soldier? I want to talk to him.”
“That’s uh. That’s the thing, Commander.” Beckett licked his lips. “He got a call this morning and had to leave. Said he’ll only be taking forty thousand dollars for his five days here.”
“FORTY FUCKING WHAT-“ the Knight stammered. And the Commander glared back at him for making her headache even worse. She turned to Beckett. “When is he coming back?”
“He’s uh… He isn’t.”
The Commander shot up.
“He just… left?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Did he leave a letter? Or a call? Anything?”
“No, sir. He just told me to tell you and the Knight. Deathstroke as well.”
Of course. Exactly like last time.
Bucky disappeared without so much as a call. This is all for fun, he once told her. A pastime. Release. Don’t think too much about it.
She knew he was a busy man with his own set of friends and enemies to work with.
But dammit, he could have at least called.
“Thank you, sergeant.”
Beckett left them, and the Commander was stuck standing near the door with her eyes locked onto the empty wall.
The Knight, unknown to her, watched her the whole time. Not a smirk. Not a smug little grin to go with it. He was as silent as her.
Nights after, the Commander laid on her bed, alone as she had been the past few days. She got under her covers and tried what she could to close her eyes and get the sleep she’s been needing for so long. But nothing.
Three knocks on her door.
She opened her eyes, then sat up against the headboard. “It’s unlocked.”
The Knight came in, with just a shirt and jeans on. He leaned against the doorway and the Commander rolled her eyes at him. “You come here to gloat?”
“About what?”
“Bucky,” she sighed.
“What do I have to gloat about?”
“Shut up, Knight.”
She looked away, arms in front of her, but the Knight kept looking at her and coughed. “May I come in?”
Y/N closed her eyes, not wanting to argue, and just nodded her head. He closed the door behind him and sat at the edge of her bed.
“You seem to be attached to him.”
“I was fond of him,” she chuckled. “Fond enough to believe something could possibly happen.”
“Really?”
“He’s a good guy. You don’t have to hate him.”
“I do. He’s practically me with chin-length hair and a metal arm.”
She laughed and laid her head against the wall. “He is.”
The Knight kicked his shoes off and laid on the bed next to her. He chose to stare at the same things she was staring. She noticed. Probably to get a glimpse of what went on in her head.
“I’m not in love with him, if that’s what you're thinking.”
He rolled his eyes. “Wouldn’t dream of thinking of that.”
“Good,” she sighed.
She wasn’t exactly heartbroken. At least, she didn’t think so. She always thought that the moment she was so hurt to the point of that organ tear into pieces, she’ll know it. This. This was practically an equivalent to a teenage crush, except it’s with a really hot guy she slept with a few times, who’s incredibly handsome, has a fucking metal arm, a super soldier. Fuck, he’s dreamy.
But love? Nah. She’d know. She wasn’t in love. Not with a super soldier. Not with a robotic limb. Which meant she wasn’t heartbroken.
And that day will come. Sooner or later. Probably with someone more human, someone she can imagine eating at a small diner with. She turned her head over to the Knight.
“What are you doing here?”
He bit his lips, head against the wall like hers, then smirked.
“I’m here so you wouldn’t drink yourself to sleep and forget you’re here on a job.”
She nudged his shoulder and rolled her eyes, and the Knight grunted a very faint, yet audible laugh. He caught her eyes.
She smiled at him ever so lightly, and even when he didn’t exactly smile back, she thought he was beautiful.
The Knight leaned in, kissed her so softly that it was far too different from any other kiss she’s shared with him. His scent. The one she’d long noticed and wanted to have a closer glimpse at. She pulled herself closer to him.
Laughing as the Knight moved her over on her back, she forgot about everything else there was.

Tumblr media

Pairing: Alex Danvers x Reader
Word Count: 1,782
Warnings: Angst. Blood/Violence. Minor swearing. Bad Writing.
A/N: Sorry If this isn't exactly what you meant when you meant,,, I didn't focus as much on the protective side of things. But!!! I hope you like it!!! Also, its REALLY long aha. Anyways, Enjoy! (Again, sorry that I changed it a little,,, I got carried away.)
Everything was okay in your life right now. You had a job you loved, in a city you loved, and a girlfriend you loved. Everything was okay. J’onn had sent you and Alex on a routine mission to check up on a new cadmus threat that surfaced. He mentioned a weapon that could stand as a threat to Kara, because they manufactured it with kryptonite in order to weaken her. So, since she was at risk, supergirl was ordered to stay on site at the DEO headquarters, much to her dismay. The location of the threat was a cadmus owned warehouse at the base of a mountain far outside of national city. Winn had picked up on the kryptonite signature which is what started this whole thing.
It was you, Alex, and a few recruits. Your squad was armed to the teeth, and alex had her gun (that she loved almost as much as you).  You, however, opted for your knives, that you’ve been favoring for years. Alex had persuaded you to keep a gun in your holster just in case, though. She trusted you, and your skill, but she didn't trust your knives. Especially when the threat was a gun. “I’ll be fine, babe. I always am. I can take care of myself, you know that.” you said to her as she gave you a concerned look.
“I know, (Y/N) I just worry sometimes.” She responded with a sigh. You got up from your seat on the jet across from her, and planted a solid kiss on the top of her head as the plane touched down.
“I think it’s cute that you worry” you whisper, as your hand cups her cheek.
It took around an hour of scouting to make sure the warehouse didn’t come equipped with unnecessary traps, or mines. There were minimal guards outside of the base, which you found odd, but not odd enough to worry you. Alex was quick to take out the two men that stood watch over the side entrance of the massive concrete and steel building. You looked to the recruits, and used two fingers and a pointing motion to order them off to go secure the front entrance, and by the time you looked back to where Alex was, she was gone. Alright, I guess we’re going in. You thought, always impressed with your girlfriend’s audacity.
You slipped into the barely open steel door, your two knives gripped firmly in your hands, blade lightly resting against your forearm as you held them in a defensive position. Something didn’t feel right. Something in your gut was off. The power in the warehouse appeared to be non-functional. None of the lights were on, not even the emergency bulbs you saw that lined the walls inside. Your eyes adjusted to the new, dim light, and they rested upon Alex, who was crouching over a body around twenty or so feet from the door. You walked over to her, and put a hand on her shoulder. “Alex?” you asked. She didn’t look up at you. When she responded her voice was cold, distant.
“They’re dead. The recruits. All of them. This was a trap set up by Lillian.”
You looked around the room. Littered on the cold concrete floor were twelve bodies. All wearing the black DEO standard-issue kevlar. You felt sick. You remembered distinctly ordering them to flank. They listened to you, followed orders.  You slipped your knives back into their place in your thigh strap. “This is my fault. I told them to move to secure the front.” you said to yourself. Alex said nothing, just stood back up from where the body was.
“We need to get out of here. The people that did this could still be in the building.” She said cooly, her hand wrapping around your bicep, and pulling you to the door.
Before you could even take two steps, there was a mechanical thunk, followed by an electric whirr as the lights suddenly turned back on. Not just on- but full force, flood light bright. You instinctively brought your arms up to shield your eyes from the violent change, and Alex did the same. “What the-” Alex was cut off by the sound of gunfire. You were still blinded, and were too busy worrying about the recruits to memorize the layout of the boxes strewn about. Alex, on the other hand, was much more fortunate. Like always, she had everything down to a science. As soon as she heard the gunfire she was safe behind a cluster of metal barrels, never once having to open her eyes. She reached up to you, and pulled you safely down next to her.
As soon as you rested your back against the metal, your eyes adjusted, and your knives were in your hands. Bullets collided with the side of the barrel, grazing the metal and sending small sparks flying into the air. You looked to a stack of scrap metal, that was a risky ten feet away from where you were know, but going there would allow you to get close enough to charge and engage in hand to hand combat, in which, you had an advantage thanks to your knives. Alex gives you a nod, to acknowledge your idea. You duck down under the line of fire, and sprint to the metal. Before you knew it, you were safe, and closer to the threat. As you moved, you looked to the origin of the gunshots. “I spot four agents, all armed with semi-automatic rifles!” you shout to Alex.
“Alright! I’ll take the two nearest me!” she shouts back, holding her pistol tightly against her chest.
She poked her head and arms up above the barrels, and fired three quick shots, downing the two agents in question. The others, closer to you, focused their fire towards her, and she ducked down under the barrels again.
Noticing the opportunity, you ran out from behind your cover, and flipped your knives over, their blades pointing directly at the agent closest to you. By the time he noticed you advancing, it was too late. He fell to the floor, unconscious from the blow you dealt him. Using the hilt of your knife as a bludgeon. You moved from him, to his partner, who was aiming his rifle directly at you. Before he could fire, your knife sliced open the skin of his hand, which caused him to drop his gun. You kicked him in the ribs, and then in the head, to ensure he was out.
“Clear!” you shouted to Alex, who you heard rise up from behind cover. “I think I got them all. Must’ve been an extra guard detail. Still doesn’t explain what killed the recruits though, because four men couldn't take them out.” You said, confused.
“(Y/N) MOVE” You heard Alex scream. Your head whipped around to her, only for your gaze to be met by a massive man, easily a foot taller than you, standing within arms length. How didn’t I hear him??? You thought to yourself. You raised your knives, ready to react, when he lunged at you. There was a massive glowing green sword in his hand, likely the weapon you were sent to destroy, and, before you could move out of the way, It sunk deep into your abdomen, right above your left hip. You cried out in pain, Going limp against the blade. It ripped through your stomach, causing immense agony to ripple through your body. You felt blood begin to seep out from around it. The man released his grip on the handle, satisfied. You heard five responding shots, fired from Alex’s direction. The man collapsed in front of you, littered with bullet holes. You looked up from your stomach, hands gripping the blade protruding from your body, to Alex. She gasped, seeing your wound, and rushed over to you just soon enough to catch you as you fell weakly to the ground.
She set you down carefully and became panicked when she saw how bad it was. “(Y/N) IS DOWN. I REPEAT, (Y/N) IS DOWN!) she screamed frantically over the comms. “SOMEONE GET KARA HERE” she screamed through tears. “It's going to be okay, baby, everything will be okay.” She said softly to you, as your face paled, and your eyes lost focus. You could feel the cold ground grow warm as your blood pooled underneath you. You knew you were losing too much blood. That you might not make it. You swallowed dryly.
“I’m not doing so good, huh?” you asked weakly.
“No, no you’re not, but everything will be okay, I promise. I can't lose you.” Alex said, as she pulled your limp body into her arms. The world went dark as you heard her whisper into your hair: “I can’t lose you.”
Your eyes fluttered open. As they came into focus you realize you recognized the ceiling. You were in the med bay at DEO headquarters. You tried to sit up, only to gasp and cry out in pain, clutching at your side. Tears well up in your eyes, and you glance down to the source of your pain, and see a long line of red begin to blossom across a bandage that was wrapped around the length of your abdomen. There was a stirring sound next to you as Alex woke up, apparently having never left your side. “Oh thank god.” she says, shooting up to pull you into a hug. You winced slightly at the movement, and she released you with whispered “Sorry”s.
“It’s been five days. I thought you’d never wake up.” she says, choking back tears, as her hand gripped yours.
“I’m tougher than I look babe.” you say with a smile and a groan as you shuffled to get comfortable with where you were laying.
“I know- I know.” she responded back. “You really scared me back there.”
“Won’t happen again, I promise”
“It better not. Oh, and I’m not leaving your side until you’re healed.” She said sternly as she tightened her grip on your hand.
“Fine by me” you responded with a smile.
Alex leans over and presses a much-needed kiss to your lips. It was soft, and full of tenderness and care. You sighed into it, you missed the feeling.
When she sat back down, you looked to her, a smile on your lips, and on hers.
“You know-” she said with a raise of her eyebrows. “I always told you I didn’t like knives.”
You laughed as whole-heartedly as you could (without hurting yourself).
“I know babe, I know.” you said quietly as you felt her thumb caress the back of your hand. Everything was okay again.
