Look maybe it’s my own complicated relationship with my parents but I don’t think you guys value the gold mine of complex trauma provided by average imperfect parents like the Drakes. Like Tim wasn’t abused however that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t give a therapist a headache when he explains his family. Like I truly believe that Janet was a loving mother but I can tell you that doesn’t mean there isn’t a disconnect when you are raised with a distance between you especially with boarding schools and long vacations. The difficulty of having a father who does not know you but continues to interfere and make assumptions on who you are and who you should be. Tim might of had the most average upbringing, and even then it wasn’t that average, but there is magic in that when it comes to understanding who he is. He’s independent not because of a tough life but because that how his parents believed he should be (I can’t remember we’re but there a panel were it’s like the Drakes don’t really understand what kids should like at that age). I think in a medium with so many extremely tragic beginings there’s something deeply beautiful in your average everyday mess. The Drakes were completely average parents but they do provide the stage for the most relatable parental angst especially when they are never given the chance to resolve it

Like A Date?
There was only one word to describe the last couple of weeks: heaven.
Since the confession with Wanda, everything has been perfect, the two of you finding every opportunity to have stolen kisses without anyone seeing, finding every excuse to see each other and just enjoy each other's company.
One thing you learned about the older woman was her insatiable desire to touch you as much as she possibly could. Wanda always had to be touching you in someway, whether it was her leg simply pressed against yours as she sat next to you at the dining table, her fingers interlocked with yours whenever you two were alone in the kitchen or even just her body melting against yours as you hugged her, letting your face rest at the crook of her neck and murmur sweet words to her while you would bask in the moments peace. You personally found it adorable at how she would find the chance to somehow show her affection to you, secretly loving how her love language was clearly touch as you seeked her comforting embrace.
Something Wanda learnt about you in the last few days was your addiction to her lips. Since you first pressed your lips to hers, you have craved them ever since and Wanda knew that. Her nose would scrunch up cutely every time she gathered what you were aiming for as you spoke to her, going along with whatever excuse you were making until either of you would give in and crash their lips to the other, not wasting any opportunity.
Currently, you were walking up the stairs of her home with one destination on your mind; her office. Your mind quickly thought of an excuse to see her, the twins entertained with a game on their console giving you enough time to escape and seek out the woman who has occupied all of your sane thoughts.
Peeping through the gap in the door, you saw that she was currently on the phone, twiddling her pen in the air and only stopping when she heard your gentle knocks, spinning around in her chair, lips stretching into a beaming smile. Her hands gesture for you to come in, making a quiet motion as well while she continues to speak to whoever was on the other end of the phone call. With a smile tugging at the corner of your lips, you tried to walk as naturally as possible to her desk to lean on it, trying not to show your excitement off too much.
"Thank you Jennifer," she starts to end the call, your eyes scanning over all the files on her desk, flickering your gaze up to her screen which has a background photo of her twins on it, the cute act making you steal a glance at her sitting in her chair, green eyes set on you while her teeth bite her lower lip. Her head nods as she listens to her friend on the phone, both of them bidding goodbye before she hangs up, placing her phone on her desk and offering you a loving look and charming smile. "And what can I do for you?" she asks playfully, uncrossing her legs and stretching her body a little as she tilts her head while looking at you, a blush forming on your cheeks at the amount of attention you're getting from her.
Wanda secretly revels in your already flustered state, effortlessly standing from her chair until she is in front of you, her arms trapping you between her and the desk as they land on the wood at your sides to support her body. With her body towering over you, thoughts fly out of your mind as it goes blank, her eyebrow raising expectantly as her smile never fades, nose scrunching in that adorable way.
"I came to see if you wanted anything to help you through the rest of your shift," you murmur shyly, still not used to this thing between you.
"Did you now?" she whispers, her voice dropping a little bit causing your gaze to drift down to her lips, desperate to feel them against yours again. Her alluring eyes watch yours switch from her eyes to mouth, her radiant smile turning into a smirk as she catches onto your plan on why you're really in here. "What do you think would help me?" she asks teasingly with a little rasp, her fingers tilting your face up softly to make you look into her eyes that sparkle with joy.
"Personally," you say with a cheeky smile pulling at the corners of your mouth, "I think a kiss would really help you get through it." Your hands go to her waist, the soft fabric of her jumper under your fingertips as you brush your thumbs over it, her smile softening as you give into her touch.
"Well, if you think it would help then I guess we should try it," she whispers before leaning down to delicately claim your lips, hands moving to your hips as her mouth moves against yours. Another smile breaks out onto your face as she pecks your lips one last time, pressing a final kiss to your forehead before moving to let her head drop to your neck. Her hair tickles your skin as her face nuzzles against the warmth of your skin, her arms snaking around your body while she lets out a sigh.
Your hands glide up and down her back soothingly, feeling the stress of her work flow out of her as her body relaxes.
The sound of her phone going off makes her tense again, her groaning against your skin as her work beckons her to come back. She reluctantly pulls out of your embrace, moving to check who's called before deciding she'll call them back, sitting back in her chair and opening her emails quickly before shooting you an apologetic look. You slowly walk over to her, wrapping your arms around her from behind over the back of her chair, pressing a soft kiss to her cheek, still amazed at how natural everything felt.
"Did it help?" you say in a whisper, her hands going to where yours rest on her collarbones.
"Yes it did Detka, thank you," she murmurs back, her eyes reading through the email on the screen while you prop your head on hers, her eyes rolling at your childish antics.
"That looks so much fun," you joke, making her chuckle at the disapproving tone of your voice at her work, "Is there anything else you want? Coffee? A snack?" She thinks for a moment, before tilting her head back, making you take yours off of her while she smiles up at you, the sight creating a warm feeling to bubble in your chest.
"I could do with a coffee," her voice appreciative of your care, "And another kiss." You lean down and quickly peck her lips, her frowning a little at how short it was.
"Ok, I'll bring it to you when it's ready," you whisper before standing up right, ready to leave the room.
"I'll meet you in the kitchen in a few minutes Detka, no need to bring it up," she says just before you leave the room, you acknowledging her words before walking down the stairs with a stupid grin on your face.
***
"Thank you Detka," she murmurs out while taking a sip from the drink you have just handed her, a content smile taking over her face while her eyes flutter close, savouring the warm feeling flowing throughout her. When her eyes open you catch her gaze, enamoured by the captivating and enticing green that looks your way with a tender glint, her expression soft as she merely grins at you over the rim of her glass. Her hands are securely wrapped around the mug to heat her hands up, her body yearning for your touch once again making her stride up to you, stopping to place the mug down on the countertop before wrapping her arms around you. "I have a little surprise for you," she whispers, your head moving to prop up on her shoulders as you peer up at her, excitement but also confusion painted across your face.
"A surprise?" your hands snake around her middle, smiling into her jumper when you feel her relax, adoring how much she wants affection. She hums in affirmation, her fingers playing with the threads of your jumper as her hands drift to the bottom of the fabric, your body heating up at the simple action, berating your mind for where it wanted to head to.
"Pietro wants to take the boys out tonight," she starts, letting you go to grab her mug once again, taking a sip as you move to lean into her side, listening attentively. "Some cool day out with Uncle Pietro," she says, mocking his words with a smile on her face as she remembers the conversation with her brother, him adamant he was the funnier Maximoff twin. You chuckle at the way she mimicked the silver haired man, watching her besottedly.
"He is pretty cool," your shoulder bumping into hers jokingly, a faux glare sent your way to stop your teasing.
"Anyway," she diverts the conversation back to the point, her body moving to stand in front of you, her mimicking the position you two were in when you were in her office, her arms braced at the side of you, this time trapping you against the countertop and towering over you. "That means it will just be us tonight," your eyes widened at her words, accidentally taking it in a more suggestive way than she was implying.
"Oh?" your tone is a little shy as you're not too sure where this conversation is heading. She picks up on your nervousness, pressing a soft kiss to your cheek to calm you while moving her fingers to brush your cheek, carefully tucking away a loose strand of hair behind your ear.
"So I was thinking maybe I could take you out somewhere..." there's a hint of apprehension in her tone, fearful you'd reject her, making you offer her a soft smile and reversing the role by comforting her.
"Like a date?" The grin that stretches on your face is enough to tell Wanda that you like where this is going, easing her worries and making her expression mirror your elated one.
"Like a date," she confirms, you leaning forwards to press your lips to hers gently. You pull back with a smile engraved on your face, adoration swirling in your eyes as you peer up at her.
"I can't think of anything better than to go on a date with you Wanda Maximoff," the tone of your voice is playful as she lets out a relieved breath and a small chuckle at your dramatics, letting your body relax against hers until the sound of the twins eventually break you apart, the older woman having to return to work.
***
"They are not scary Detka," she chuckles out, swirling her glass of red wine leisurely as her attention is solely focussed on you, taking in the shocked expression on your face at her words. Your eyebrows furrow at what she says, placing down your fork on the table in the restaurant Wanda took you to, ready to explain to her your very reasonable reason for thinking they are scary.
"Chickens are terrifying Wanda," your tone is deadly serious, this only resulting in the older woman to let out another string of angelic laughter at your determination to convince her.
"Why are they scary Detka?" she humours you once she calms down, tilting her head and offering a teasing smile as she bites on her lower lip, your mind losing track of your thoughts at her mesmerising looks.
"They...." you shyly smile at her and quickly gather yourself, feeling your cheeks heat up as she continues to watch you, peering over the rim of her glass as she takes a small sip. "Have you ever been chased by a swarm of them?" The theatrics of your voice and genuine passion about this has her struggling to not burst out in laughter at you, finding the entire conversation endearing as you cross your arms over your chest in a playful manner.
"I can't say I have, sweetheart," she softly says, still trying not to laugh.
"You can't say they are not scary then," her hand places itself over yours in a comforting manner, your eyes snapping away from your plate of chicken that you said you were eating in 'revenge' to her.
"Is this something you need to get off your chest?" she says teasingly, as if it was a life changing event, well, you would argue that it was.
"I think it is," you sigh out dramatically, "It was terrifying."
"I'm sure it was Detka," you give her a faux glare at her mocking tone, her just chuckling at you, "What happened then?"
"Me and Natasha went on a school trip when we were like five to a farm," your tone is nostalgic as you remember the day. "Because it was so hot, our teachers got us all an ice cream. I got vanilla and she got chocolate and we walked over to a wooden bench to eat them when a few chickens came over to us." You're too busy lost in the story to see the way Wanda is looking at you, love swirling around in her eyes as she takes in your carefree state. "Our teachers told us to move away from the animals so we started to slowly walk away but then one of them pecked me!"
"Oh no," she gasps out in pretend shock, a humoured look etched onto her face.
"So, I started to run because it was weirdly painful and scary. This caused Natasha to run as well and we ended up running around the farm with a bunch of chickens chasing up and our teachers screaming at us," you laugh as you remember the red and angry face of the teacher, you and Natasha not caring about being told off as all you could see was your scoop of ice cream melting on the floor, having fallen off while you were sprinting, "But we didn't care, we just wanted another ice cream that we could eat."
Wanda laughs with you as you both tell more stories of your childhood, a few questions aimed her way as you try to find out that table story Pietro mentioned on your birthday. The rest of the meal is filled with casual conversation, the two of you just learning even more about each other, your favourite piece of new information being Wanda's old college friend Jennifer, the woman she was on the phone with earlier, is a lawyer and currently trying to finalise a divorce between her and Vision as quick as possible.
You both finish your food, Wanda paying for the bill while you just frown at her as she won't let you help pay. She kisses your cheek in apology, knowing you wanted to help and quickly tries to distract you by pulling you by the hand out of the restaurant, a small grumble coming from you.
"I wanted to pay half," you mutter, the older woman just finding you adorable as your feet kick the floor, wrapping your coat around your body as you try to keep warm in the biting wind.
"And I wanted to pay it all Detka, I invited you out," she whispers, sliding her arm around yours and walking with you down the street, the streetlights illuminating her face beautifully as you get lost in staring at her side profile. Your eyes venture around her face, admiring her cheek bones, the gentle blush that's settled there, her eyelashes that flutter every time she blinks. She catches you staring, cheeks instantly turning red while your head swivels to the side, acting as if you were staring at the floor, watching your step. Her mouth opens, a joke on the tip of her tongue when another voice calls out your name.
"Y/n?" your blood instantly runs cold at your mothers voice, her coming out of the Red Room Bar that you two had just walked past, a hint of a slur to her words. "Y/n turn around right now," she grits out. Wanda notices your unwillingness, giving your hand a gentle squeeze as you turn around to face your mother, disgust evident on your face as you see another man's arm wrapped around her waist, his mouth at her ear. "Why haven't you been home?" There's anger in her tone and you're finding it harder to breathe as her gaze switches over to Wanda, red practically flashing in her eyes at the sight of your arms interlocked. You pull away, Wanda frowning as she's still unsure who this woman is. "I've been calling you and texting you," there's a sudden switch in her tone once she's seen Wanda, putting on the façade of the caring mother as Wanda pieces together who she is. "I've been worried sick."
"You haven't called or text once," you mutter, keeping your gaze fixated on the floor, counting all the small cracks on the concrete.
"Don't be ridiculous Y/n, of course I've called," she offers Wanda a fake smile, the older woman standing next to you mirroring the fake gesture. "God children, always making themselves a victim somehow," she says to Wanda, assuming she was the woman you babysit for and trying to stir things and cause issues. "What would your father say if he knew you were lying?" that strikes a nerve in you, making you look up with a hurt expression as she speaks of your father while some random stranger is all over her.
"I'm not," your voice is shakier than you wanted, your mother smiling a little at your response before keeping her face straight.
"We can talk about that later," she cuts you off as you're about to speak again, returning her gaze to Wanda. "Anyway, what are you two doing?" she asks, her eyes conveying disgust at the proximity of you two.
"I wanted to take her out for a late birthday treat and a little thank you for looking after my boys," Wanda intervenes, knowing you don't want to speak any more to her. Your mother's eyes widen as she realises it's been your birthday, trying to make you look bad once again.
"Oh, so you'll let her take you out for your birthday but not me?" the man who was interested in her gets bored and leaves, your mother cursing under her breath as she watches the drunk man stumble away. Her gaze bores into Wanda, "I wanted to take her out on her birthday but guess what? She just wanted to go to some party and be a typical teenager, doing god knows what." You look up and Wanda, her knowing the obvious lies your mother is sharing, her jaw clenching at the way the woman opposite her is acting.
"Well, I'm sorry she couldn't spend the evening with you but I assure you she wasn't at a party, she was actually doing a favour for me, looking after my twins as I had to go out suddenly." Embarrassment washes over your mother at what Wanda's just said but before she can say anymore, Wanda cuts her off. "And I'm sorry to cut this lovely meeting short, but we need to head back before my brother brings the boys back home to an empty house," sarcasm drips from her voice as she starts to turn away from your mother, a smile tugging at your lips while Wanda sticks up for you, anxiety and nervous having taken over your body.
"Y/n, you're coming back with me," the tone of your mother's voice switches away from the façade she put on, venom and anger clearly present.
"She's coming back with me," Wanda says, her voice dangerous as she glares at your mother, head tilting causing the other woman to back off, deciding you weren't worth fighting for and leaving to go back in the bar.
"Thank you," you murmur, her arm wrapping around your shoulder and bringing you in for a hug, your head resting against her chest, satisfied with the warmth radiating off of her, "I'm sorry."
"There's nothing you should be sorry for Detka," she murmurs at the top of your head, pressing a kiss to your hair and letting her hand run up and down her back. "Come on sweetheart, let's go back home and find something else to do," she whispers, understanding of your sudden change in mood. You nod against her and pull away after indulging in the moment a little longer to walk alongside her, fingers interlocked.
***
"Come here Detka," she murmurs out, her low tone a little raspy as she takes her coat off, you removing yours before walking up to her, doing as she asks. "The boys won't be back for a little longer, so what do you want to do?"
"Can we watch a film?" you ask, trying your best to forget what just happened and remember the better parts of your date with Wanda. Her lips press against your forehead, her chilled fingertips lifting your chin to look at her as she nods.
"Anything for you," the enticing green softens at your shy state, her lips pull into a smile before she moves down to press them to your own. Cold hands cup your jaw while yours go to her waist, Wanda guiding you to the couch, smiling into the kiss when she can feel the stress and tension slowly ease out of you, manoeuvring around so her knees hit the back of the sofa. She sits down first, you staring at her with a dazed expression as she acts as if she didn't just kiss you senseless mere seconds ago, the smirk tugging at the corner of her lips telling a different story though. "What do you want to watch?" she innocently asks, your thoughts still replaying the feeling of her hands and lips on you, the blush deepening on your cheeks as she can tell what you're thinking.
"Anything you want to," you whisper, scared your voice will betray you if you speak any louder. She motions you to join her on the sofa, laying down and staring up at you with open arms. Following her silent instruction, you move onto the sofa to lay with her, the older woman's arms wrapping around you like a blanket of security as she pulls you impossibly closer. You turn around in her arms, letting your head rest at the crook of her neck, her head resting on yours, letting you cuddle her.
"How are you going to watch the film like that, Detka?" she playfully murmurs into your hair, not too bothered if you didn't want to watch the film as she could feel you relaxing into her.
"I've gotten a better view here," you mutter against her skin, tickling her slightly as you pull back to look up at her, offering a charming smile, the return of your normal mood making her face light up. You return to your previous position as she starts to watch the film, her fingers subconsciously moving to your hair and scratching your scalp, a low groan escaping you at the pleasurable feeling.
Gradually, her actions start to lull you to sleep, the soothing motion of her fingers softly gliding up and down your back now as your eyes flutter close.
The sound of a car doors shutting wakes you up, Wanda waking you up and pressing a chaste kiss to your lips before standing up to stretch, then making her way to the door to let the boys in while you wake up.
The sluggish movement of your hands rubbing tired eyes was stopped when you saw Pietro walk in with a passed out Tommy slung over his shoulder, an equally tired Billy trudging along behind them while Wanda followed after locking the front door.
"My, my, what have we interrupted?" Pietro asks his sister teasingly, turning around to face her while Tommy's limp body sways at the movement.
"Nothing that concerns you," his sister replies, lowering herself to embrace her other exhausted son, lifting him into her arms despite his protests that he can manage it by himself. Billy quickly gives up when he realises it's much easier with his mothers help, her murmuring words in Sokovian to him as she presumably orders Pietro to take Tommy to the twin's room.
An apologetic smile is sent your way as Billy and you start to yawn at the same time, a smile stretching on her face as she swiftly takes him to his bed, Pietro coming back down with a mischief etched onto his face.
"What were you two up to tonight?" he asks and before you're left to answer alone, you're saved by Wanda returning to the room.
"As I said Pietro, nothing that concerns you," he puts his arms up in surrender, winking at you before turning on his heels, smirking at his sister.
"Ok sestra," his tone gentle before turning taunting, "Remember to use protection!" he chuckles out, only just dodging the pillow Wanda dashes his way as he leaves, not wanting to intrude whatever was going on between you two.
"I'm sorry about him," she sighs out and you just stand up and move back into her embrace, not too happy about being woken up. "Do you want to stay over tonight Detka?" you answer her by nodding against her body, her laughing at your determination to stay in her arms. "Do you want to stay in a guestroom or..." she trails off, not wanting you to think you have to stay in the same room as her. The small action makes your chest bubble with care and love.
"Your room if that's ok?" you mumble, her smile stretching into a stupid grin at the way your peering up at her, fingers interlocking with yours as she practically drags you to her room.
Once you're inside, she shuts the door, locking it just in case the twins decide to come in and see you in her room, turning around and then leaning on the wooden structure. You watch her as you dramatically flop on her bed, a small giggle escaping you as it's so bouncy while she just admires your cuteness. As soon as you've had enough fun bouncing on her mattress, you sit up and beckon her over, her stalking up to you which has your cheeks heating up at the way her eyes darken.
"Is this ok Detka?" she breathes out, her legs moving to straddle your waist as her hands rest on your shoulders cautiously.
"Yes," you sigh out and the tone of your voice is already desperate, your body craving for her to do something already but she just sits there in your lap, letting her fingers play with the hair at the back of your neck. The green eyes that you love so much scan over your features in adoration, taking in the moment of you waiting for her to dosomething, anything.
It feels like you're waiting an eternity until she lowers her face to yours, her lips barely putting any pressure on yours as they briefly brush over them. Your eyes flutter close when you feel her hands cup your jaw, waiting for her to kiss you, to crash her lips to yours, to do anything at this point as you just wait, wait and wait.
When she feels like she's savoured the moment enough, she kisses you. She kisses you like she's been starved of your lips forever; it's hot, it's desperate, it's everything you wanted it to be. You can't do anything but melt into her touch, hand clutching at her waist to ground yourself as all you can think of is her lips moving against yours, her body pressed up against yours, her soft fingers threading through your hair, just her.
You moan into the kiss when her hands move to venture across your body, gliding over the expanse of your back, yours moving to rest on her curves as she steals your breath away. She's somehow gentle, dominant and desperate all in one as she claims your lips over and over again, forever wanting more of you while you're panting under her, opening your eyes to stare at her with significantly darker ones while you pull back to try and regain your breath.
A borderline sinister smirk replaces the soft smile that you're used to as she knows the effect she has on you, the way you crumble under her touch, and she loves it. Her finger moves to lift your chin, her eyes darkened with lust as she intoxicates you with just a simple look, breath hitching at the predatory glint that was there for a moment
"You're so beautiful Detka," she murmurs lovingly, softly and the contrasting tone is done purposely to drive you that little bit crazier. Your hands boldly move to slide under her jumper to rest on the skin of her hips and fuck her body is so soft under your touch.
"Fuck Wanda," you groan out, her hands tugging you by your hair back to her lips as she needs more. "Do you have any idea what you do to me?" you breathe out against her lips, pressing your forehead against hers. A low chuckle escapes her and that alone sends arousal straight between your legs, the throbbing heat building there becoming unbearable.
"I want to ruin you, Detka," she pants, her mouth next to your ear now as her hot breath tickles the side of your face, the sultry tone of her voice making you whine pathetically. "Just... Not yet," she whispers, pulling back from you with flushed cheeks, kiss swollen lips and an apologetic look as she can see how worked up you are, the small whimper that spills from your lips not almost cracking her self restraint. Almost.
You know why she's stopping and you're glad in a way she is, not ready to go that far just yet, but part of you wants to, the need to ease the heat between your thighs begging you to kiss her again, to let her do whatever she wants to you. You give in for a moment, kissing her once more but letting it die down into a soft movement of lips pressing together, passion and emotion being poured into it instead of hunger and desire.
"I'm sorry if I got carried away," she whispers with slightly concerned eyes as your forehead just moves to rest against hers.
"You didn't," you reply, eyes still shut, ears intently listening to the steady breaths coming from both of you. Fluttering your eyes open, you see her still worried expression that she went to far, wanting to reassure her. "I promise," you say, nose brushing hers while your lips barely touch hers, your tone soft and comforting, "I promise you didn't, I loved every second of it."
"Good," she mutters back, your lips still grazing each other's making you smile.
"Good," you breathe out, moving your hands to her waist and pull her close for a hug, your head resting on her shoulder while you let yourself enjoy the moment of her in your arms, tranquillity taking over the room.

Sometimes parents do not love their children. Sometimes mothers do not love their children. Sometimes fathers do not love their children.
You are never expected to give your parents anything more than how they treat you. You do not owe your parents anything ESPECIALLY if they don’t love you how they should.

my brother is the only one who actively attempts to use my name and pronouns. he is still a child.
my mother and father, who I've been having the conversation with for years still sigh and shake their heads.
they treat him like the golden child, and me like the first draft they couldn't fix so they made another one. him and I both know it.
they raised us in competition.
and then they wonder why their kids get along so well, and defy them so boldly, and defend one another from them. as if they didn't set it up this way for us on purpose.

I’ve seen a lot of people say that Padme’s death was Anakin’s breaking point/what pushed him past the point of no return but I honestly think that his breaking point was when Obi Wan said “you were my brother Anakin, I loved you.” Throughout their on screen relationship we see Anakin constantly striving for Obi Wan’s approval and love, whether he admits it or not. At the beginning of aotc Anakin literally tells Obi Wan that he sees him as a father figure. However, after Anakin’s mother dies there is a noticeable strain in relationship, which is probably due to Palpatine’s influence. Anyways, throughout the clone wars we constantly see Palpatine messing with Anakin’s perception of the Council and Obi Wan, making Anakin feel like he needs to prove himself in order to gain their trust/approval/love.
(Admittedly, Obi Wan did not really do a great job of making Anakin feel appreciated or loved either, especially with the whole Rako Hardeen thing. I think part of it is also that they have very different love languages too. Obi Wan seems to be more of an “acts of service” and “quality time” type of person while Anakin is a “words of affirmation” and “gift giving” type of person.)
I think at the end of the day, Anakin was looking for someone to give him some sort of paternal love and he needed some sort of verbal confirmation about it. Which is exactly what Palpatine gives him. Meanwhile, Anakin seems sort of resigned to his relationship with Obi Wan and he has a consistent belief that Obi Wan thinks the worst of him. This is briefly disputed in RotS when Obi Wan says he’s proud of Anakin and that Anakin is a great jedi, but I think his confrontation with Palpatine sort of shook that conversation from his mind. Furthermore, Anakin’s conversation with Mace Windu probably made Anakin feel like none of the council trusted him or took him seriously (which contradicts his earlier conversation with Obi Wan).
Also, trust goes both ways. Since the council had such a mistrust of Anakin, he felt like he couldn’t go to them with his issues, or like they were hiding information from him. But with Palpatine, he had to put his trust into the idea that he means something to Anakin and that he’ll be able to get him to fall. Palpatine doesn’t have to be coerced or found out by Anakin, he just straight up tells him that he’s a sith, which is an extreme risk to make. When presented with the option of entrusting the council (who does not extend the same trust to him) or Palpatine, the man who groomed him into feeling like he had no other options, he’s obviously going to pick Palpatine.
But here’s where Anakin’s breaking point comes in, after Anakin kills the Separatists, after he chokes Padme, after he kills the padawans, after he accepts Palpatine’s offer, after fighting Obi Wan and getting his limbs chopped off, after all that Obi Wan looks Anakin in the eyes and tells him that he was his brother, and he loved him. After all the heartache Anakin went through, after all the times he felt like he wasn’t enough for Obi Wan, after all the times he felt like he couldn’t confide in Obi Wan (and confided in Palpatine instead), after resigning himself to the idea that he’ll never have Obi Wan’s love or approval, that’s when Obi Wan reveals that he had it the entire time, that he cared for Anakin just as much as Anakin cared for him, that he had truly believed in Anakin and trusted him, that the distance between them had hurt Obi Wan too, and that Obi Wan was distraught to be opposing Anakin, that Obi Wan didn’t want to be Anakin’s enemy but Anakin hadn’t given him a choice because he thought he’d already known how Obi Wan felt. It must’ve broke Anakin to yearn for Obi Wan’s love for so long, and only realize he’d had it the whole time, and now he’ll never have it again.
All those times Anakin had believed Obi Wan disliked him, that he didn’t care for him, that he’d hated him for all the mistakes he made, and it’s only after he makes a choice he can’t come back from, only after he decides to return Obi Wan’s “hatred”, that realizes that it was never the case at all. That Anakin was the one who drew the line the in the sand, that maybe their relationship had been cracking, but Anakin was one who looked at those cracks and had decided that it wasn’t worth the effort to mend, that it was better to throw it away. All the while Obi Wan had looked at those cracks and loved Anakin anyways. And maybes that’s what makes him finally break, maybes that’s why he yells that he hates Obi Wan, because maybe if Anakin had known, he could’ve saved the relationship on his end, and maybe if he’d trusted Obi Wan, then maybe they could’ve saved Padme together, and defeated the sith. But Obi Wan never told him, and now the both of them were stuck with ruins of their relationship, always wondering about what could’ve been.
