Hey! I am new to your blog, but I binged everything, hehe, and I think you're amazing! Could you maybe do hcs with Bakusquad and todoroki with a s/o who is scared to let them meet their parents because they're the strict type who think that once you're in a relationship it basically means you intend to marry the person?
Bakusquad and Todoroki with an s/o who has strict parents
Genre: fluff  Pairings: Bakugou x reader, Kirishima x reader, Sero x reader, Kaminari x reader, Mina x reader, Jirou x reader, Shinsou x reader, Todoroki x reader a/n: this took me so long im so sorry but wow this took a lot of energy out of me JFJFSJKFA i hope i got what you wanted anon ! (─‿‿─)♡
Tumblr media
Bakugou Katsuki
you and katsuki have been dating for quite a while now
he had already invited you to his house and you coincidentally met his parents !
he hadnt expected them to be there but they coddled u like there was no tomorrow !! (─‿‿─)♡
they asked u tons of question and u even cooked dinner with masaru !
it was a great bonding experience !
katsuki was ofc not happy with this becuz he only wanted u to himself ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐
after dinner he hauled u to his room and demanded cuddles
after that though, he lowkey expected that u would to introduce him to ur parents too
just so things are fair and square
but after numerous hints u still havent gotten the clue ! so he just confronts u abt it
but softly
“so when am i gonna meet your parents?”
you kinda turn to him a little hesitantly
your parents are pretty strict
they didnt even know you were dating bakugou at all
all they knew was that you were doing very well at UA
“uh do you want to meet them?”
“well its just, you met mine, so that means i can meet yours right?”
bakugou looks so tiny like that he justs pouting a little with his arms crossed over his chest
“i mean, theyre really strict baby, im not even allowed to be dating you right now”
bakubabes kinda shocked so he just asks u more questions
“what do you mean??”
“well if i am to date someone, they want that person to be like my future spouse or something, so its either all or nothing for them”
“tch, me? marry you? in your dreams”
u alrdy know bakugou is teasing but u hit him nonetheless
lets just say you both agree to not bring him home for a while
Tumblr media
Kirishima Eijirou
you had already met kirishima’s mothers a few weeks back during an impromptu outing the mall with his family
there were lovely of course ! and kirishima is the living proof of all their hard work into making one of the nicest boys in the whole world
after that though
kiri had gotten a little hopeful that you’d introduce him to your parents as well
soon enough he couldnt keep it in and it eventually came out in word vomit
“huh, you want to meet my parents?”
kiri just nodded meekly and settled down on your bed, patting the space next to him
you plop down and pull him into a hug, cradling him against your chest
“uh listen baby, my parents, theyre not like yours”
“huh, what do you mean?”
“well theyre kinda strict, they dont even want me dating in the first place, plus if you do meet them, theyre expecting that you’ve already thought out how youre going to ask for my hand in marriage or something like that”
“i mean, i can marry you now if you want?”
you splutter over your words and push kirishima off your chest
“whaaaaat im serious!!”
after that you and kirishima have a thorough discussion on why he cant ask you to marry him just yet
Tumblr media
Sero Hanta
hes pretty chill about the idea of meeting your parents and you meeting his
he isnt really going to plan anything but if anything happens to happen then he’ll just go with the flow
his parents had invited you over to dinner after they managed to spot you at a random shopping center
sero was FLUSHED !! but he let it happen, walking a little behind his parents so he could hold your hand
after that though things are totally chill
he doesnt really expect to meet your parents
as he didnt plan you meeting his parents either
but he does ask you what theyre like !
one day while you were cuddling he just looks up at you and asks you, “what are your parents like?”
“theyre pretty traditional”
“what kind of traditional?”
“the ‘are you prepared to marry my child and provide for them for the rest of your life?’ kind of traditional’
sero kinda just wheezes at your answer at your answer and leaves it alone for awhile
Tumblr media
Kaminari Denki
hes kinda insistent on meeting ur parents
but only because he knows that its like the special bases of relationships
plus he also wants to meet the wonderful people who created you
he introduced you to his parents on your 5th month of dating
cuz he just wants the people he loves the most to interact with each other
plus with how much he talks about you home, they were also quite eager to meet you
so of course he is kinda gonna be insistent
one day he runs up to your room and presents a fancy night with you, him, and your parents
he pushes you in and explains it to you thoroughly !!
you feel kinda bad to tell him that this might not happen
“im sorry bug, but im not sure if we can do this with my parents”
hes shocked ! he sits up a little for a moment but he ends up sagging in sadness after a while
“but why”
and hes pouting !!
you feel so sad about hurting him about this
“my parents are really strict, they might not approve of you baby, they’ll probably even ask you if youre gonna marry me or something”
“i will marry you though!!”
Tumblr media
Mina Ashido
like denki she’s a little persistent
she’s just very enthusiastic about you and everything about you
so that includes your home life
she already introduced you to her parents long ago
so shes pretty expectant
she always kinda brings it up
“so when can i meet your parents” is a common phrase you hear from her
you kinda dismiss her questions and you change the topic after that
but after a while she gets fed up and confront you about it
and although you feel bad you still feel a little reluctant to tell her
you didnt wanna ruin anything just cuz your parents are stupidly strict
but you decide to tell her anyway
you explain to her how strict your parents are but she doesnt really get the gist of it
“what do you mean though?”
“well, they’ll probably ask you if youre ready to marry me or something”
“of course i am!”
you fluster at her words
she cuddles up to u and doesnt let u leave her arms after that
Tumblr media
Jirou Kyouka
shes kinda shy about those things
so she usually just focuses on you and only you
she never really thought about meeting your parents until the squad (mainly denki and mina) asked about it
“what do you mean when am i gonna meet their parents?”
“thats like!! the biggest step in a relationship!! if you dont meet their parents youre probably not gonna be long term!”
jirou dismisses mina’s statement and leaves to find you
although it does sound a little ridiculous, she is kinda nervous about that
was she not enough for your parents?
she finds you in your room and beats around the bush for a while before getting straight to the point, kinda
“so uh you wanna exchange parents?’
“what”
“no, sorry, i mean, like, wanna meet my parents and ill meet yours?”
youve heard stories about kyouka’s parents and they sound pretty awesome so in your mind you agree immediately
but the thought of kyouka meeting your annoyingly traditional parents sounded like a nightmare
“i dont think you’ll like my parents”
she asks a simple way and you give her a simple answer
shes totally cool with it cuz yeah she doesnt like overly traditional people
so you both end up just laying down and cuddling together
Tumblr media
Shinsou Hitoshi
i dont think he really cares about meeting your parents
not that he doesnt care about your parents
no hes sure that they are lovely people
its just that shinsou is a litlte anti social as it is and likes to keep meeting new people to a minimum
but monoma kinda bugs him on it
egging him on to take initiative in your relationship for once and make a big step for the both of you
so one day, shinsou walks up to you begrudgingly with monoma hiding behind a wall nearby
(this is exactly what it looked like when monoma forced shinsou to gain the courage to ask you out)
“so, can i uh, meet your parents?”
you kinda laugh at how he asked it so weirdly
“where did this come from?”
“monoma said i need to man up and take initiative in our relationship and make a big step so that we can stay together forever”
you laugh even harder but you cant help but have your heart melt at shinsou’s purpose taking to you now
it may not seem like it but he really does want to have you around forever
“theyre pretty strict and traditional baby, you sure you wanna meet them?”
he turns around and monoma gives him a firm face and a thumbs up
shinsou turns back around and nods firmly
you cant help but laugh again at how adorable he looks
moving to wrap your arms around his neck you give him a small peck on the cheek
Tumblr media
Todoroki Shouto
todoorki’s had his fair share of experience when it comes to parents
so hes not entirely eager to meet your parents
but he does think about it every now and then
for sure not everyone is going to be like his father
but hes got quite a foul mouth and no brain to mouth filter when he does speak
but he knows respect
just dont cross his line
he doesnt really bring up meeting your parents for a while
iida had asked about it once since it was a formal thing to do when gaining a significant other
todoroki simply shrugged and said he’ll think about it
and he did think about it
later that day after training he approached you, pulling on your arm to bring you closer to him
he soon pulled you to a stop by the side of the hallway, stepping rather close to you
“can i meet your parents?”
“eh??”
it was so sudden that you couldnt help your surprise
neither of you talk much about your parents (except for Rei who you had met a while back)
“well, I don’t think you’ll like them sweetie”
“I’m sure they’re lovely”
“Well, they’re just a tiny bit like your dad, not the abuse, but the uhm, in the traditional sense?”
todoroki nods firmly and pulls you to stay under his arm as you resume walking back to the dorms
“well, my mother will be your mother-in-law soon enough so you don’t need to worry”

@fireflyingaway requested: willex + waffle house pretty plz
So I did have to do “extensive research” on Waffle House because I don’t have one near me and have never been to one, and that led me to find an incredibly good dessert place literally a ten minute drive from me so thank you for that lmfao. But anyway, I had a lot of fun writing this, I went with getting together (kind of) fluff because that’s my jam, so I really hope you enjoy it!
Smooth Like Syrup
Somewhere along the way, Waffle House had become Alex’s favourite restaurant. He wondered if it was the childhood memories it brought back, weekend brunches spent there with his grandparents who cared for him and loved him far more than his parents ever had. It could have just been the fact that he loved waffles, and with a name like ‘Waffle House’ they couldn’t really put a foot wrong when it came to serving him. Maybe it was just the familiarity of it all – Alex had always found comfort in routine, after all. Whatever the reason he loved it there so much, Alex went to Waffle House at least once a week, more if he had the time. And it was absolutely nothing to do with the adorable new waiter who had started working there for the summer.
If anything, he was ruining it all.
Because he’d been going to the same Waffle House every week for as long as he could remember, Alex was pretty friendly with most of the staff. A few of them had been working there as long as he’d been a customer, so they were on first-name terms and always took a moment or two to catch up with each other once Alex had ordered his food (which never took long because he always ordered the same thing and they all knew that by now). Seeing the same people working there and having the same generic chitchat with them each week worked perfectly for Alex. It was normal, routine, familiar, a social situation he knew how to navigate.
Then they’d gone and hired Willie. It shouldn’t have been a problem, but it was. A problem for Alex at the very least. Not only did it disrupt his routine and catch him unawares the first time he’d walked into the restaurant to see a new waiter, but the waiter had to look like that. Willie was all dazzling smiles and sharp cheekbones and luscious long hair and it was, quite simply, unfair. Alex came to Waffle House to eat, not get flustered over some ridiculously good-looking boy.
For a few weeks, Alex had taken the admittedly immature approach to just avoid Waffle House altogether. Out of sight, out of mind. The only reason it hadn’t lasted long was because he missed the waffles, and he couldn’t find anything to fill that extra hour and a half of his Saturday. So after not visiting for two weeks, Alex returned to Waffle House and resumed his routine, still flustered by stupidly attractive Willie, but most definitely working on a way to stop it being a problem.
His next plan of action had been simply trying to avoid Willie which was foiled the moment he sat down in his usual booth one Saturday afternoon. He had been hoping that his usual server would spot him and come over for a chat, but as luck would have it, Willie got to his table first.
“Welcome to Waffle House,” he had said, beaming down at Alex, who tried to act as if the sudden appearance hadn’t scared the life out of him. He wasn’t sure how well he pulled it off, but Willie had made no comment. “My name is Willie, I’ll be your server today. What can I get you started with?”
Two things had thrown Alex then. Firstly, it had been the first time he’d heard Willie’s name. It was strange to be able to put a name to the face of an angel and he was certain he would never have guessed ‘Willie’ if he’d been given a million tries. Secondly, the fact that Willie didn’t automatically know his order bewildered him. He was so used to the waiters coming over, confirming he wanted the usual, and slipping into easy conversation. This was new and unexpected, and if there was anything Alex hated it was new and unexpected things.
As such, his mind went blank and he completely forgot what he usually ordered. A plain waffle and a diet coke shouldn’t have been easy to forget, it wasn’t anything fancy, and yet Alex made it work.
“Um,” he’d said dumbly, looking up at Willie’s expectant face with his mouth bobbing open and closed like a mildly distressed fish. He could feel his cheeks heating in a blush and looked away as Willie raised a concerned eyebrow.
“Do you need a minute to decide?” Willie had asked sceptically.
Alex had shaken his head vigorously, aware that probably made him look as frantically flustered as he felt and was trying to hide, which only made him more flustered. He took several shallow but slow breaths before forcing words out of his mouth because that was how conversations worked and he refused to lose the ability to speak over this boy.
“No, no, I know what I want,” he had said eventually. “Just a plain waffle and a diet coke, thank you.”
“Is that everything?” Willie had asked, jotting the order down on his notepad.
Not trusting himself to speak any more than that, Alex just nodded. Willie had shot him a bright smile and disappeared off to get his order prepared. The moment he was certain Willie couldn’t see him anymore, Alex’s head flopped onto the table and he let out a long, exhausted, frustrated groan. He felt like an utter mess.
For the rest of that visit, he’d kept it together by simply not talking to Willie unless it was absolutely necessary. Had he been a more confident person he might have found a better way to handle it, but Alex had been cursed with social awkwardness from the moment he’d been old enough to socialise and it wasn’t suddenly going to fix itself just do he didn’t make a fool of himself in front of Willie.
As time went on, things got simultaneously worse and better between Alex and Willie, enough that Alex both dreaded and looked forward to his weekly Waffle House trips. For one thing, he and Willie had got to know each other a bit better – Willie could anticipate Alex’s order now, Alex could just about talk without tripping over his words or saying something slightly embarrassing (which always felt to Alex like something utterly mortifying and worth overthinking because his brain hated him), and if both of them were in the right state of mind they could manage a very brief chat.
But on the flip side, Alex hated Waffle House now and it was Willie who had ruined it for him. Not for any sane reason like being a bad waiter (because he was actually a very good waiter, which Alex thought had something to do with the fact that he always wore Heelys so he could glide across the restaurant which was much faster than walking). No, Willie had ruined Waffle House for Alex because now he couldn’t go in there and see Willie without getting butterflies in his stomach and a giddy grin on his face.
Now that he knew Willie better, it wasn’t just his beautiful brown eyes and gorgeous smile that Alex liked about him. He was talkative, he was funny, he was sweet. He was extremely considerate – when Alex came in one day, Willie met him at the door, walked him to his usual table, told him they’d run out of diet coke and that he had just popped to the store and bought some just for Alex, knowing he would order it. And he laughed at Alex’s terrible attempts at humour, he drizzled the syrup onto Alex’s waffles in the shape of smiley faces, he made sure Alex’s usual booth was always free of people for when he came in. Everything about Willie made Alex’s heart beat too fast and his breath catch and it was starting to make going to Waffle House a very stressful experience.
So Willie was the reason that Alex loved going there and was also desperate to find somewhere else.
But Alex, despite his many worries about life, wasn’t the kind of person to give up on something just because someone else made it difficult. Sure, that rule had usually applied to very different situations, and he actually liked Willie so it wasn’t as if seeing him was a bad thing, but it helped Alex to remember that he’d always powered through things like this and that was what kept him going to the restaurant.
One day, he arrived to Waffle House later than normal. He had come straight from band practise which had gone on longer than normal because they’d spent the first forty-five minutes arguing about the dangers of fiddling with electrical equipment in the rain and decided to make up that time at the end. As such, Alex arrived almost twenty minutes after he normally would have left.
He didn’t spot Willie immediately as he came in and couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed. Nowadays, Willie nearly always greeted him at the door, knowing exactly what time he arrived. He supposed Willie had long ago given up waiting for him to get there – he had a job to get on with, after all. Alex tried not to feel too sad about it as he made his way over to his usual booth; Willie was a waiter, not a friend, not anything else, and Alex shouldn’t have expected him to wait forever or be there whenever he wanted.
But when Alex came to his usual seat, he was surprised to see someone already sat there. Even more so when he noticed that person was Willie.
Willie looked up as he approached, expression changing from bored to delighted in a second flat. The grin on his face was more than enough to snap Alex out of his sudden bad mood, lifting his spirits and bringing a smile to his face in an instant.
“Alex!” Willie greeted. “You’re here! I thought something had happened to you, man, you had me worried.”
Alex laughed and sat down opposite him, trying to keep his eyes wandering so he didn’t end up just staring at Willie. “Nah, I’m alright. Band practice ran over, is all.”
“I’m glad it’s nothing serious,” Willie said with a small smile. “But if it happens again can you text me to let me know you’ll be late? Just so I know I don’t need to worry about you and I can still keep your table free.”
“Sure, but I don’t have your number,” Alex said, ignoring the persistent fluttering of his heart and the alarms blaring in his head. It seemed as if his mind had pressed its panic button at something Willie had said but Alex was too distracted to figure out what.
“That’s easily fixed,” Willie replied. He dug his phone out of his back pocket and slid it across the table to Alex. “If you put your number in there I’ll text you so you can save mine.”
Heart hammering, cheeks hot, and smile so wide it hurt, Alex nodded and entered his contact information into Willie’s phone. He tried to act nonchalant as he slid it back across the table afterwards, but in his flustered state his aim was off – he pushed too hard and it fell over the edge of the table, right into Willie’s lap. That was one of those slightly embarrassing moments that Alex’s subconscious would likely rub mockingly in his face for days to come and he couldn’t help but wince at the thought.
“Thanks, man,” Willie said, beaming. “It’s just for peace of mind, you know. I really like you and when you didn’t show up earlier I just… well, I wondered where you were.”
Willie wasn’t meeting his eye all of a sudden. In fact, he apparently found the table top very interesting because he was staring at it like it held the secrets of the universe. Alex knew the signs well enough to guess how Willie was feeling then – nervous. But what did Willie ever have to be nervous about?
“Hey,” Alex said gently, lowering his voice in an attempt to calm Willie’s nerves. He leant over the table a little though so that he could still be heard. “I’m here, aren’t I? Nothing bad actually happened. You don’t need to worry about me, Willie. I promise.”
A small, bittersweet smile fluttered across Willie’s face. “Yeah. You’re here.”
The short silence then felt charged, electric, fierce. Why, Alex had no idea.
But Willie broke it, his usual bright smile back on his face as he said, “I hope you don’t mind me eating with you, by the way. I’m on my lunch break and I’d kept this table empty for you anyway so I thought I might as well sit here.”
“Oh, no, it’s fine by me,” Alex insisted. It was a half-truth. Was he happy to have longer to chat with Willie than normal, eat together as if they were friends rather than just a waiter and a customer? Yes. But did this feel too much like a date for Alex’s anxiety to handle, even though it was very clearly not a date? Also yes. He half wanted to ask Willie to sit somewhere else, but that would have been unthinkably rude, so he settled for trying not to be awkward.
Not long later, another server came and brought their food out. For a moment Alex thought it was weird because nobody had even come to take his order, then he remembered that everyone who worked at Waffle House knew what he got so it would have just wasted time if they’d asked. The two of them ate in silence for a while, Willie enjoying his break and Alex enjoying the first food he’d eaten all day.
Their conversation started up again when they were about halfway into their meals. Willie asked about Alex’s band practise, how things were going, what they had lined up. Alex was more than happy to talk about Julie and the Phantoms for hours on end and the way Willie engaged with his waffling on so enthusiastically only fuelled that fire. But in return, Alex made sure to ask how Willie was, how he was getting on preparing to start college, whether he’d had enough free time to skate lately.
It was weird, he thought, that this was their first proper conversation and yet they already knew so much about each other’s lives that it flowed as easily as it would have if Alex had been talking to one of his closest friends. Perhaps he and Willie were closer than he had realised.
He only stayed until Willie’s break ended, which was painfully short. They said their goodbyes, Alex jokingly promised he’d be on time next time, Willie laughed that beautiful laugh of his as he took their plates away, and Alex left the restaurant. He couldn’t shake the odd feeling in his mind, still wondering what had panicked him at the start of their conversation.
It hit him as he was crossing a road, stopping him dead in his tracks and causing an irritated driver to beep his horn at him: Willie had been worried about him.
It felt so much more personal than it should have. If Willie worried, it meant he cared, and if Willie cared then it could have meant any number of things. It could have meant that when he looked at Alex he felt the same featherlight giddiness that Alex did when he saw Willie. It could have meant that Willie spent his days wishing Alex was more than just a regular customer. It could have meant that when Willie asked for his phone number he was actually asking for more than that.
Alex had no idea what inspired him to do it, what unusual burst of courage gave him the ability to go through with it, but a moment later he had whipped his phone out and opened Willie’s contact. There was only one message between them, the one Willie had sent so Alex could save his information, but Alex quickly typed out another and hit send before he had time to regret it.
I know you said I only needed to text you if I was going to be late, but I figured I could text you about other stuff too. Like the fact I’m free next Friday if you want to hang out.
Something like that ordinarily would have stressed him out but he didn’t have the time for that because Willie’s response was almost immediate.
Sure! I hear Waffle House is pretty great, how about we go there?
Alex laughed at how dorky and cute Willie was even over text and replied quickly with: It’s a date.
Willie replied with three emojis – a smiley face, a heart, and a waffle. Even just from that, Alex knew Willie had understood him and that next Friday they would be going on an actual date together. He didn’t care whether it was actually at Waffle House or they tried somewhere completely new; as long as he was with Willie, nothing else mattered.

(Cause I finally found an outfit I liked on the boy, men’s fashion isn’t my strong suit,,, heh :) )
“Sorry, is my mouth hung open?” he asked.
“Yes, sir. Very much so,” she mocked.
Jason closed his mouth and outstretched his hand for Y/N’s, cupping it with both hands and kissing the top of it.
“You just look so lovely, Y/N.”
“And you’re chivalrous, Jay. Now, should we get going?” she asked, putting her free hand on top of his two.
“Yes, let’s go,” he let one of his hands go of hers and lead her to the Porsche he brought with him, not intertwining his fingers with hers.
He opened the passenger’s side door and let Y/N get in, not letting go of her hand til the last moment he could hold it. He got in an turned on the radio,
It felt like a good night, for dancing in the moonlight,
In empty streets, well, everybody's got a reason why,
If we could only just get it right,
Maybe it will all work out like in the movies,
But I know Romeo must die before the ending,
With a final poison kiss delivered gently,
Because you don't get lucky twice, and that's the truth,
“Sing to me sweet just like my memory,
If New York City Still moves me then I’ve found something real,
I’ll be okay, I could go on for days,
But I just don’t have the courage that it takes to be real,
And even if it’s dark at least we’ll be together,
Slowly sinking in the Earth to lay forever,
You better grab a hold and hold on for your life,
Because you don’t get lucky twice,
No, you don’t get lucky twice,” She sung with the tune.
Without the Bitter the Sweet Isn’t as Sweet - Mayday Parade
“You, you have the voice of an angel,” he said.
“It’s not that hard to mimic works of art with my voice.”
“Did you ever take singing lessons?”
“I did when I was younger, so I could sing French lullabies to my cousins.”
He placed a hand on her thigh as he drove them through the countryside of Gotham to Metropolis, taking the long way on what seemed like purpose. So he could encapsulate the moment in his memory for as long as he knew her and what she was to him. She was an adventure waiting to happen, a love story not yet written to tell for ages, a rock ‘n’ roll song written to please the masses in hidden corners of the world.
And to her, he was a masterwork of intertwining memories of pain, sadness, luck and beauty. A mind of complexity she was just waiting to dive into and see how it functioned. A story behind the white tuff of hair he had, why he was jacked to the masses if he was a book nerd. A story of his favourite book and his favourite sibling, his favourite trope, his love, his pain, him.
The moments where she stuck her hand out the window and traced symbols into the Autumn air swirling past the two as they cruised down the empty back roads. When he laughed as she sang Reste by GIMS and Sting. He didn’t understand the lyrics, but she did, and she called it a love song. Well, he got the parts Sting sung, but French wasn’t a language he knew like she did.
“I guess being Bilingual helped you out massively with that one, huh?”
“It’s a talent I never knew I needed, apparently.”
“Well, you did know you needed.”
“That’s fair,” she laughed, “ I guess I did always need it as a skill.”
“Do your cousins speak English too?” he asked.
“Yeah, a bit? It’s better English than my father.”
“Can he not speak English?”
“Well, he can, just not well. But my mother is also Bilingual in English and French so they never had to worry about my father being bad at English. My twin sister and I grew up knowing both languages,” she rambled, still playing with the wind, “I guess it’s a one-up I have on a lot of people, being able to just talk and talk in another language, travelling advantage,” she kept going, Jason intently listening to her as she went on and on, he liked the silence being filled by her voice, “You know? You might know, I don’t know how you were raised to a T,” she finished.
“Well, I can assure you I only know English so you have that theoretical one-up on me, too. But I choose to see that one-up as something you can teach me as time goes on and we progress,” he paused, “If you’re down to get serious eventually, that is,” he panicked.
“Well, maybe we’re at that point where we can say we’re casually seeing each other and exclusive, but not serious. Hopeful, but not pressuring ourselves into something that’s going to be put under a lot of pressure as we go on,” she said, still playing with the wind.
“We’ll see about that after dinner.”
“Where are we even going?”
“Fancy little restaurant with a balcony facing over the city,” he assured.
“Really out here living for the moments?”
“Well, most girls crack under the pressure of the paparazzi, you, however, flipped them off, and that’s being rewarded for showing that you can’t give a fuck about those dingy ass tabloids and how they treat you, by taking you out to nice places,” he said.
She laughed, “I’m glad I’m never going to live that one down, it was really fun to do.”
“I hope it continues as we go along, I would hate to see that behavior change when it brings a smile to everyone who’s ever been harassed by paparazzi” when they pulled over for a second, Jason quickly loosened his tie a tad, “Honestly, I want to ditch this fucking tie,”
“It’s not you,” she said, “It’s just not.”
“And you know me that well to take that guess?”
“I could see you struggling with it from a mile away, Jason. Maybe the fancy restaurant isn’t us,” she laughs, “But we aren’t going to not take that dinner date.”
“Oh we’re so going to take that date, but I’m thinking from here on out we do whatever the fuck we want, no fancy dates. Thoughts?” he asked.
“Done deal,” she said.
----------------------------
In the restaurant, the two of them were basically the worst people to be there, it was levels of fancy that neither of them actually wanted, they both wanted simplicity, but they both thought the presence of the other person was enough of a takeaway from the completely wrong choice of restaurant. They had Dick to blame for this one, and Jason made that clear to Dick in a joking text while Y/N snuck off to the bathroom to ‘fix her hair, she was actually checking her breath.
Dick, this fucking restaurant is a god damn bust, man. We aren’t you and Barbara, that’s what we’ve discovered today. lol.
Bummer! We really like that place.
I can see why it screams Dick and Barbs.
You kissed her yet though?
No.
Wuss! Cat got your tongue? Just do it, man.
And at the same time, Y/N was texting A/N about Jason and what to do,
Girl! Thank you so much for reminding me to bring mints, my god, food ruins your breath so much.
You really want the pretty boy kiss huh?
No, I’m eating the mints to not kiss him, YES I WANT THE KISS.
Ha! Honesty is key, just go for it.
She laughed as she packed her phone into her dress pockets (Yeah there’s fucking pockets :) ) and went to leave the restroom to meet up with Jason again. To which, Jason had already paid and tipped the waiter.
“I could have at least helped on the tip, Jay.”
“I tipped him 200%, but if you want to drop more cash, go for it.”
“You tipped that much?” she asked while slipping in a 50$ she had on her.
“Of course, food service workers deserve a lot more than what they get, especially when they have to deal with terrible customers,” he said as he went and grabbed her hand again, not intertwining fingers again, “And my best friend, Will, he complains about people who don’t tip and praises people who quote ‘over tip’ but I think that he deserves 200% each bill for the shit he puts up with.”
“Did you tip him when we went there?”
“No, I called in a ‘No questions asked’ favour. And before you say anything, he did the same to make me babysit his daughter-”
“Your best friend has a daughter?”
“Well, he’s older than me, but yeah, he’s a single dad because her mum kind of sucks, lovely little girl, I’m her godfather.”
“Does she call you Uncle Jason?”
“Well, Uncle Jay, it’s like one of the only works she knows how to say properly, and Dada,” he laughed, “Great little girl,” he said, nervously, “This doesn’t change anything, does it? ‘Cause if he, knock on fucking wood, lord forbids, dies that will be my daughter.”
“Well, he’s not dead and you’re not worrying that he’s going to die, so nothing has to change. God kids are god kids, noble that you took on your best friend’s kid if, lord forbid, anything happens to the man, really,” she assured.
He sighed and kissed the back of her hand, “Then that is just a gift on top of what I did,” he smiled and lead her back to the Porsche once again, opening the car door for her and she slightly turned on the radio, he let out a small laugh to himself, he got the pretty girl. He got into the Porsche again and began backing out.
“There’s something about ditching a really expensive dinner date that leaves you wanting more,” she said, absent-mindedly.
“What kind of more?” he asked.
“The kind you see in the movies, fully exposed and adventurous, you know?”
“Well, we could always sneak into the Wayne Manor Gardens and dance the night away under the stars like lovers do,” he half-joked, placing a hand on her thigh again and pretending like he did it subconsciously, but he was hyper-aware, especially when he caught her smile as she laughed.
“Wayne Manor? With your brothers, sisters, dad, and grandfather?” she paused, “If you’re serious, then no, not tonight. If you’re pulling my leg then, hell fucking no,” she joked.
“Maybe one day, then, huh?”
“One day, for sure. When it isn’t scary to accidentally run into your family on their property running around with you,” she said.
“Well, we can always go into the Wayne Enterprises Ballroom and dance the night away, no one should be in the office for a while and even then since there are no classes in the entire school tomorrow you can just hide out in my office if we stay too long,” he paused to make sure she was still listening, “Security can’t question me because I’m Bruce Wayne’s son, and security is tight as fuck so paparazzi can’t get to us,” he paused to put a little bit of pressure on her thigh, “What do you say? Can I have this dance, Milady?” he half-joked.
“You want to know something Jason?
“Always, Y/N.”
“I took dance lessons when I was younger, can you Waltz?” she asked.
“Yes ma’am, I can.”
“Then I’m in, let’s go.”
-------------------------------------
She loved the feeling of being back in her new hometown, Gotham. So when they pulled into the massive black building, she felt even more welcomed, security at the gates did ask ‘Who’s the girl?’ but Jason just explained it very easily,
“You know that date of mine that flipped off the press and you lot loved it?” he asked.
“Yes, sir,” the man responded.
“You can call me Jason, you know that. But this is that girl.”
And they were let through the parking gates and into the underground parking system, they had to travel surprisingly far to Jason’s reserved spot in the lot, but the did get there before it hit AM. Once out of the car, Jason grabbed her hand and they ran into the building’s employees doors. It was a tight squeeze, but the feeling of Jason pressed so close to her sent chills down her spine. They went through many halls and reached the Ballroom, and entering it was like a dream for her.
Walls lined with intricate shapes and colours, but the colours never brought away from the stage at the far end from the door, the curtains seemed to redden with each step towards them, the 3, maybe 4 chandeliers hung above her like crystals in the ocean, it was amazing and beautiful. Checkered floorboards to give it a little bit of dimension, but it was the same colour as the main wall so your brain and eyes wouldn’t hurt after looking at it. It was stunningly beautiful and that’s what drew her in.
When he grabbed her hand and put on Never Let Me Go by Florence + The Machine, pulling her close to his chest and slowly Waltzing her around the room, spinning her when it felt right for him to do. Neither of them worried about the sloppiness or how it looked to the naked eye because it was for them. no one got satisfaction like they did at that moment. And grabbing her for one last dip was Jason’s goal when the ending of the song hit, although out of breath and his face stuffed in her chest as they both panted, he did pull her up so they were face-to-face on the dancefloor that they wiped clean.
“Did I tell you that you look stunning, Y/N?”
“I think you mentioned it a few times, Jay,” she said, staring directly into his eyes.
“Well, I mean it.”
“And I’m going to mean this,” she paused, taking her hand and placing it on his cheek, “ The way your eyes are a green-blue tint makes me lost in them, they’re like a sea of this mind I find myself liking more and more every day,” she paused to put her other hand on his other cheek, “And the way your nose and cheek freckles frame them is amazing.”
And he went for it. Somehow when he pressed his lips into hers, it felt like they were meant to match, and they both opened their mouths to play the coveted game of tongue-war, but they didn’t play by the rules, it was soft and sweet but full of passion and love, not lust. His hands would travel to her waist and lightly grip her, while her hands would travel to his neck and drape around the back of it.
They pulled away at the same moment to take in air, something they had clearly been missing as they were connected, they both let out a small chuckle before she put her hands in his hair and went in for round 2.
This time it was hungrier, and they both played with the shapes of the other so much more as time went on, he would grab her ass and she would pull on his hair slightly before he picked her up and she wrapped her legs around his waist and moved one of her hands to the nape of his neck, this time, they would break for seconds only to start moving towards his office, which, conveniently, had a couch.
To say he threw her on that couch would be an understatement, he fucking thrust her on that couch and climbed on top of her, it was like 3 days of passion and lust combined themselves in a matter of minutes from their first kiss to them meeting on the couch. They both knew deep down that it couldn’t escalate further than this, especially at 1 in the morning, but time moves fast when you’re connecting in this way.
They finally broke after their passionate exchange and he fell to her side and began to spoon her, “Worth it,” he whispered.
“Worth what?” she asked.
“It was worth it to take a chance and defy my anxieties to ask you on that first date.”
“I don’t like a reality where you didn’t ask me on that date.”
“Neither do I, and I’m positive of that.”

Heartbroken Wingwoman
BG: You were hoping that your best friend, Cedric to ask you to the Yule Ball. Instead you were roped into helping him ask Cho out. It broke your heart, but at least this way while helping him out you could pretend that he was doing all the sweet things to you. On the other side of the picture, Harry was too heartbroken upon learning that Cho is going out with Cedric.
Angst. Cedric Diggory x Reader, Harry Potter x Reader (Platonic) [Or maybe more, if anyone is interested for a part 2]
WC:1383
a/n: We weren’t given names of Cedric’s friends so let’s pretend that one of them is called Lucas okay? Good!
I wanted to get all the angst fics out of the way before I post fluff pieces for the holidays.
Plus it is my first Cedric fic so feedback is really appreciated.

Seeing him pursue another girl hurt.
Let alone helping him pursue said girl.
That’s right you are helping your best friend ask out one of the most popular girls in Hogwarts, Cho Chang.
You didn’t want to be in this situation. (Who in their right mind would?) But if it means spending more time with him, you would again and again.
Cause who would fall for their childhood best friend who already have pictures and memories of each other in their diapers. (Oh right you would!) Sure, this situation you got yourself isn’t ideal. You had seriously thought it was you Cedric was referring to, but alas it was not.
At least in this way, when coming up with romantic ideas to woo Cho, you would pretend that he was doing them to you.
You were once again silently scolding yourself for going through this agreement. Sighing, you leaned back against the tree truck, pleading for the voice inside your head to shut up.
Peace and quiet only lasted for a moment. A thump had cut through your relaxation and the next think you knew, a weight could be felt in your lap.
Opening your eyes, ready to unleash your irritation on whoever disturbed you. ‘WHO THE FUCK DARES-‘ Oh boy, here we go again. The very problem you were trying to forget was now laying  face up, directing his brilliant award-winning smile at you- everything seem to melt away, you could spend forever just having him stare back at you lovingly and that wouldn’t be even enough. Stupid Cedric Diggory and his ability to make you forget about everything.
Cedric was saying something, but whatever that may be, sounds like cotton. If was as if the rest of the world is in a distorted underwater chamber when you were gazing into his eyes ‘shesaidyes,y/n! Cho-‘
And just like that with one word, the spell is broken. You were cut off your dreamlike state, sent back into the painful reality.
‘hmmm? Sorry what?’
‘I said.’ Cedric rolled his eyes. But even your inattentiveness, did not put him off his cheery mood. In fact, Cedric was more than happy to say the words out loud again. ‘Cho said yes!! She’s gonna be my date to the Yule ball!’
‘That’s… great ced…. really great..’ You tried to mask your pain. Unfortunately, the deliver was no great and you’ve only manged to pull yourself together to give a crooked smile.
‘Wait there’s more!! We’re officially together!’ Fortunately, Cedric was too busy being head over heels for Cho, had failed to notice your odd reactions.
‘Seriously y/n you’re a life saver!’ Cedric kissed your cheek. ‘With all this love advice, I can’t believe how in the whole are you still single?!’ He was baffled by this conundrum. ‘You sure you don’t fancy anyone?’
‘Oh believe me he doesn’t see me that way.’
‘Well his lost then, to not see such a wonderful beautiful woman.’
How this boy ruins you, without realising that his efforts to cheer you up is bringing up down.
‘Oh and by the way, how you got someone to take you to the dance?’
‘No why?’ You run your fingers through the grass, praying that he would get the hint that a date to the yule ball is the last thing on your mind.
‘Perhaps I could set you up with someone, you know as to pay you back for all you’ve down for me.’ Cedric adjusted his seating so that now you were shoulder to shoulder. ‘I bet by now you’re tired to be pretending to be interested in me just so I could practice asking Cho out! Oh I know I’ll ask Lu—'
Immediately your hand covers his mouth. ‘NO!!! No!!! I would rather go alone or with a group of friends
Taking your hand away he asks ‘What why? Why what’s wrong with Lucas?’
You sighed. ‘He’s a really sweet guy Ced, but he’s just not my type—A FACT I told me like a billion times already, yet he still tries.’ Poking at his shoulder to further drive the point home.
Arms up in surrender, Cedric concedes. ‘This guy you like, must really got your heart then does he?’
‘Yeahh..’ Gosh how this by be the kindest and caring human being ever yet fails to see that he is hurting his best friend. ‘Anyway, I have to go…I’m gonna be late for Divination!’ Gathering your things, you ran as fast as you can before tears fall from your face.
Leaving behind a boy not only an oblivious state but also in a confused one mumbling to himself. ‘But you don’t take Divination.’
In your haste to escape what would have been embarrassing scene with Cedric, you hadn’t released that you were headed towards some in maximum velocity.
Coincidentally, that said person also had their mind elsewhere and hadn’t been looking at where they were going.
Resulting in both of you to fall over.
‘Owww!’ You clutch your forehead, already feeling a bump forming. Though as you left go, you were surprised to see your palm bloody. ‘fuc--’
‘OH MY GOSH Y/N!!!’ The string of swear words about to leave your mouth was cut off by the one and only Harry Potter. ‘I AM SO SORRY!!!! HERE LET ME FIX IT…’
Dropping his broom aside, he directed his wand at you. ‘Episkey’ You could feel the healing spell doing its work, the warm sensation no doubt be the cut on your head closing.
‘There you go! Good as new!’ Harry exclaimed, wiping away the blood off your forehead. He noticed your tear stains, but he thought that it was caused by the collision and bit by having your heartbroken. Nevertheless, he tried to lighten the mood by joking. ‘No need to worry about a scar.’
You couldn’t help but roll your eyes. Did this boy really make a reference to himself?
Harry held out his hand to pull you up. ‘Thanks... for the patch up, though it is your fault. You did hit me with your broom.’
‘Yeah sorry about that….again.’
‘Why do you even have your broom with you? Isn’t Quidditch cancelled this year because of the Triwizard Tournament?’
‘well yea, but I thought I take it out for a ride to clear my head.’ He replied truthfully.
‘The tasks getting you in a snag then?’ You gotta hand it to him to still be working on figuring out what the second task is even Cedric had stopped. Everyone’s focused on the topic of dates or so you thought.
‘Dates actually.’
‘Dates?’
‘Yea… Don’t make fun of me but I haven’t gotten a date yet. Well you see I did went and asked Cho but turns out she’s going with-‘
‘Cedric.’
‘-Cedric yea.. How’d you know?’
Seeing that he had confessed about being rejected by Cho, you thought it was only fair to tell him your truth too.
‘I kinda was hoping he’d asked me really, but what ended up happening was me helping him ask her out.’
‘wow…..that’s gotta hurt y/n…..sorry!! That was insentive.’
‘Nah it’s fine, I’m getting used to rejection anyway.’
As you rounded the corner, out of his sight. Harry had came up with a brilliant idea.
‘Y/n! Y/n wait up!’
When he reached you, he through caution in the wind- what more can he lose? This close to the yule ball, almost everyone is paired up. Harry would rather go with someone he knew and was comfortable with, then some stranger just to satisfy the requirement of each champion needing a date.
‘I just had an idea, you don’t have to agree but since every champion requires a date.’
Your brows arch at the statement.
‘yes I know, it’s compulsory. I swear.  But I just thought being that both the people we wanted to go with are each other’s dates, I was wondering that maybe…why don’t we go together…. To the yule ball…Be each other’s dates to the yule ball?’
‘hmmmmm.’ You weighed out his proposition. ‘yea..yea! Why should we let a good party go to waste just because of them?!?’
‘Brilliant!’ Harry was smiling, Proud that for once in the past 3 weeks, he didn’t choke while asking a girl out. ‘I’ll pick you up at 7pm outside the y/h/h common room.’

To Marry a Vigilante: Part 5
MASTERLIST || First || Previous || Next
-------
By the time the class landed in Gotham, Marinette and Chloé had enough. Their recorders, which were supposed to serve as damning evidence of blatant bullying, got ‘damaged’ when Lila accidentally splashed the two girls with a drink. Whatever it was, it was sticky, didn’t wash with water, and also ruined their hidden dictaphones.
Of course, the liar made it look like it was Marinette who tripped her. The class almost hounded her, but they kept their distance not wanting to also get their clothes dirtied. Of course, Lila was occupying the bathroom for the next fifteen minutes, so when she finally left the drink already dried, making it even harder to get rid of.
When the girls made their way out of the plane to meet with Sabine and their teacher, Lila pushed past them and came crying about how rude Marinette ruined her outfit, which was supposedly incredibly expensive. None of the intelligent people bothered to try and point out that it was cheap mass-produced junk. Alix was visibly conflicted, but also did not speak up in the end.
“Marinette. I expected better of…” The teacher started, but then she saw both girls were hit worse than Lila, who cleaned most of it in the bathroom.
“Sweetie…” Sabine started to rethink if a simple murder wouldn’t solve their problem.
“Don’t worry Maman. I can probably salvage it once we ret… get to Damian’s” Mari corrected herself. Luckily, it seemed like nobody caught her slip of tongue.
“Ugh! Not that creep.” Alya complained. “He gives me shivers.”
Mari glared at her former friend. She wanted to say something, but her teacher urged them to move. They were put into a small lounge. Marinette, of course, had to run them through a safety course, for reasons. She still did her best, as Gotham earned its reputation as the World’s Capital of Crime.
When they were finally cleared and the class left the airport, there was a bus waiting, ready to take them to the hotel. Marinette and Chloé were about to board when a limousine pulled next to them.
“Angel, Bourgeoise…” He greeted the girls. “Since you’ll be staying with us, my father decided to send a proper escort.”
The class stared in disbelief. The guy with a sword was loaded? It definitely looked like it from the car.
“I bet his gramps just works as a driver and borrowed his work car,” Lila whispered to Alya and suddenly everyone was repeating the lie. “Or maybe even stole it…”
A blade was suddenly pressed into Lila’s neck, a hair width away from drawing blood
“Tt. I will tolerate many things, but if you try to insult Alfred one more time, your end will be painful.” The class backed away in fear. Marinette immediately went to try and drag the boy away from a very pale Lila, but he wouldn’t budge. “Am. I. Clear?”
Lila was too paralyzed to answer, so he pressed the blade further. Now it was in contact with her skin and a moment of inattention could have fatal consequences. “Am. I. Clear?” He seethed.
“Yes…” She managed to whisper.
“Tt. Good.” He sheathed his blade just as two security guards came outside to check the commotion.
“Arrest him! He tried to murder Lila!” Alya immediately screamed.
“No. If I did, she would be dead. I only explained certain values.” Damian deadpanned.
The two guards looked between the class and visibly angry Damian Wayne and scratched their heads. They could report it, but they only had the word of some foreigners against the word of the son of the First Citizen of Gotham who was also the fifth richest man in the world. The cameras here stopped working, hence they came out to check what happened.
“Children. We should be going or we’ll miss lunch at the hotel,” their teacher urged. That was enough for the guards. If the chaperone did not press charges, they wouldn’t bother.
“But… But…”
“Lila. Be a bigger person here and apologize to Damian.” Sabine grinned.
“But he…”
“I don’t want to hear it!” The woman cut her off. “You must show our host some respect.”
“I didn’t…” The glare Sabine sent her and the murderous expression on Damian’s face made the words freeze in her throat. “Fine. I’m sorry Damien.”
“Tt.” Was the boy’s only response.
Marinette and Chloé were about to leave when Rose protested. “Why are they not going with us to the hotel!?”
“Because as one of the host families, I’m allowed to welcome the students I choose to my house for the stay.” Damian did not care enough to elaborate more. Instead, he just jumped into the back seat of the Limousine. The girls followed, with Chloé going as far as sticking her tongue at the class.
Once the doors closed and Alfred started the engine, Damian lowered the windshield and leaned outside. “By the way, it’s Damian. Damian W…” He didn’t get to finish because Marinette covered his mouth with her hand and dragged him inside. The windshield closed.
When the car entered the main road, the girl finally let him go.
“What was that about, Habibti?” He glared at her.
“You were about to reveal that you’re the Damian Wayne.” She accused him.
“Tt. It’s time that liar learns who she’s dealing with.”
“It would only blow up in our faces. She would make it worse for all of us, including your family.” Seeing that both her best friend and her husband (still hard to get used to) were looking at her with no small amount of curiosity, she elaborated. “Damian Wayne is supposedly her ‘ultimate price’ from this exchange. She will want to sink her claws into you with all her skill.”
“Tt. She can try.” He huffed. His hand instinctively went to his sword.
“You do know you are quite murderous for a Robin?” Chloé quipped.
“And you’re bratty for a lady.”
“Bird-brain.”
“That’s Drake. Spoiled princess.”
“Daddy can afford it so why not? Trained monkey.”
“Grayson. Try harder. Talentless heiress.”
“I’m helping Marinette start her own company. Emo McBroodyPants.”
“Where did you even get that one?”
“I read.” She huffed. “And looks like I won.”
“Tt. As if.”
Marinette just sat back and watched her best friend and lover bicker there and back. It was nice that they were warming up to one another…
-----------
When Sabine finally arrived at the Manor, she was dead on her feet. Alfred was, of course, waiting for her at the entrance.
“Eventful day, Madame?”
“Don’t.” She cut him off.
“I assume it went worse than anticipated then?”
“Where is Tom?”
“Master Tom is in the kitchen. He decided to prepare some baked goods for the afternoon.”
Sabine stormed to the kitchen where she found her husband. He was clearly busy preparing the dough. After a quick greeting, she went to help him.
“That bad?”
“Worse.” She sighed. “I really don’t understand that woman. How… She cut me whenever I tried to rein those monsters in.”
“Oh… Hand me the pin.” He interrupted himself. Sabine gave him the item, which she already had in hand when he started speaking.
“I’m not sure if I can survive until school starts again. And even then there will be occasional afternoon trips. If it continues, I might just… I will get a jam. You did bring it?”
“I’ve put it on the counter,” Tom replied while still preparing the dough. “And don’t worry. I’m sure it’ll get better.”
“I hope so…”
---------
In the evening, Marinette, Chloé, and Sabine were introduced to the Batcave. It was indeed impressive, but Sabine was mostly interested in the training ring. She would lie if she didn’t want to test herself against the famous Batman. And she didn’t fancy committing crimes to do so. Well, for now. The class was making it more and more appealing.
“So you’re the girl that tamed Robin?” A redhead in a wheelchair rolled over to Marinette.
“Tt. Shut up, Gordon.” Damian managed to spend a beautiful afternoon without any teasing from his family. Sadly, nothing could last forever.
“Come on baby bird. After the show you gave us on Christmas Eve, you can’t expect us to just drop it.” Dick was there, smiling cockily.
“As much as I too want to tease that couple, I hoped for some sparring matches.” Sabine decided to save the teens. For now.
“Well, Madame, I’m happy to oblige.”
“Who’s with you?” She asked once Nightwing entered the ring.
“Um… I didn’t think you wanted a team match?” He replied, slightly confused.
“No, no. I just thought I would have some challenge.” She smiled brightly. She was dressed in a dark-pink judoka and wooden sandals.
“I… want.” Cass chimed in. She gracefully jumped into the ring before turning to Dick. “Alone.”
“Of course Sweetie. But I won’t go easy on you.”
“Did not… expected.”
The two women watched one another, neither moving from their spots. Both seemed relaxed but ready to react. Cass was first to start circling, with Sabine following. Neither could find any obvious flaws to exploit. Finally, Sabine lunged forward, only to jump to the side before getting in Cassandra’s range. The girl didn’t lose the bit and with a quick spin kicked her aunt, only to be deflected. Sabine tried to capitalize on the opening, but Cass followed her failed kick with another, launching herself in the air. Her target ducked low before trying to deliver an upper-cut punch toward the flying girl. It did connect, serving to push her back. She used the momentum to get some distance before landing on her hands and doing a double backward cartwheel and ending in a ready stance.
“Not bad, Cassandra. I’m impressed. That boy would probably already be crying on the floor.” Sabine smiled genuinely. There was no need for banter between them.
“Weakling.” The girl blew Dick a raspberry.
Two women watched each other for a moment. This time, it was Sabine who initiated the actual fight. She delivered three quick punches that Cass blocked, but it created a small opening. She tried to deliver a side-kick to the girl’s head, but her opponent had the same idea.
Their legs clashed by the shins. Sabine landed her leg firmly on the ground, but Cass once more lunged in the air, trying to use the momentum. She did two more kicks that her aunt blocked before she tried to put the older woman in a grip. Sabine, seeing the attempt, jumped back and tried to grab Cassandra’s hand, but instead, the girl spun around, delivering a powerful kick to Sabine’s side.
The woman felt the kick, but she used the opportunity to timely grab her opponent’s foot and twist it. Cass, to avoid an injury, also had to spin in the air. She managed to attempt a kick before falling on her stomach. Her kick did force Sabine to let go of the foot to avoid having her head hurt. The girl quickly jumped on her feet, just in time to block an open-palm strike, which was followed with a kick. She did not get to respond, because Sabine made a low-sweep. Cass jumped in the air, only to find herself pushed away by another open-palm strike that, this time, connected with her chest, pushing the air out of her lungs.
The woman followed Cass in the air, so she did not get a chance to stand up before getting pinned and rotated on her stomach. The grip that Sabine used effectively made it almost impossible to get out of before her aunt delivered a mock game-ending strike to her head.
When Sabine stood up and helped her niece, both were panting heavily. It did not affect the accuracy with which the older of them made a back-kick, right below Jason’s belt.
“Next time you try to sneak on either of us I will hit harder.” Sabine didn’t even bother to turn around and watch how the man curled on the floor, crying. “Good fight.” She focused her gaze on Cass, who blushed slightly.
“I lost.”
“Well, depends on the criteria. You got the first hit, which is often decisive. And an achievement.” The woman cheered her with a broad smile on her face. Cassandra couldn’t help but also smile. “We could both use some more practice. I definitely would’ve taken you when I caught your foot and if you capitalized on the initial advantage you could’ve ended the fight.”
“It is an honor… training… with you.”
“Thank you, my dear. I also enjoyed it.” Sabine then turned to the gobsmacked group. The fight must have looked more impressive than she thought.
“Did you just… defeat Cass in less than five minutes…?” Tim asked, unable to form a smooth sentence.
“Well, Sandra always said that I was the better one in unarmed combat. She does rock with swords though. And you should’ve seen her in that club in Tokyo. She’s definitely the dancer of the family, or rather was. I enjoy Cass’s ballet more.”
The great moment was interrupted by Batman speaking to everyone over the comms.
“Suit up. We’ve got a hostage situation at Gotham Plaza.”
“For the love of Kwami… Please tell me it’s not my class.” Marinette groaned.
“Tt. Of course it’s them.” Damian pulled his phone, showing her a live feed from the news helicopter. On the rooftop, there was a clearly visible group of teenagers, surrounded by goons with guns aimed at them. Near the edge stood a guy in a two-color suit. Half white and half black, with a red and black tie to complete the mad image. Half of his face was badly damaged and purple.
“If Batman doesn’t show here to save his precious sidekick soon, we shall see if the little birdie can actually fly.”
Everyone who met Lila groaned.
“I assume we can’t just let him deal with her?” Marinette asked hopefully.
“Sadly, Angel, it would be bad for our image.”
“I guess you’re right.”
“The two of you are sitting this out.” Batman walked into the cave, already in his suit. “We can’t risk any of them recognizing you two and it’s too early for Ladybug and Chat to appear. It would be too easy to associate their appearance with you two coming to Gotham.”
Seeing Damian’s irritated face, Marinette decided to intervene before she had a fight on her hands “Let’s do a movie night. I’m sure you have a theatre room somewhere in here.”
Immediately, the boy brightened. “No Bourgeoise?”
“I think Chloé has other plans for the evening.” She nodded toward where the blonde was talking excitedly with Cass, trying to convince her to train her.
“Good.” Damian offered his hand and the two left the cave.
“Damn! I didn’t get the chance to tease him about the proposal.” Jason looked really dejected.

jonsa prompt: adventures in dorne ☀️
hi anon! Thanks for the prompt! ❤️❤️
(once again this turned out longer than the ‘drabble’ it’s supposed to be but oh well)
xx
Dorne is not going to plan.
Sure, they'd spent weeks and weeks talking excitedly about it, their post-grad trip to the southern coast: the sun, the sand, the ocean. It had all sounded delightful to her Northern ears.
But the reality is that she's spent nearly every moment on the beach under an umbrella, having learned a painful lesson in just the first few hours that her complexion was not meant to handle this much sun. How she had managed to burn in the time it took for them to unload their bags from the rental car into the rental house, she has no idea - it had to have been fifteen minutes, tops, and yet there she was with reddened cheeks, nose, and shoulders. In her audacity, she had slapped some sunscreen on and they'd gone to the beach and she'd learned the hard way that you need to reapply sunscreen, especially after going into the water.
So now her nose is peeling and every bit of exposed skin is tender and red and she's miserable under this umbrella. Next to her, Jeyne is so hungover she can barely move, and Beth managed to twist her ankle on the way back from the bar last night. They're a sad bunch.
All in all, Dorne is not turning out the way she wanted it to.
“I need a drink,” she tells Jeyne, who groans in response and turns over onto her stomach. Out near the ocean, Beth is limping around on her bad ankle, but at least it looks like she's flirting with some cute Dornish boy.
Good, maybe one of us will have some fun on this trip, Sansa thinks bitterly. Back in Winterfell, they'd giggled over finding some cute Dornish boys to show them around the town. It had been a lovely, stupid dream.
She heads up towards the line of bars at the edge of the beach, giant hat on her head to provide at least a little shelter (she had just reapplied her sunscreen, but she's not taking any chances. She'd spent all night researching sun poisoning and she is not going to risk it).
On her way, she eyes up the resort down the beach. She and Jeyne and Beth had decided to go as cheap as they could – the plane tickets were crazy expensive this time of year and the tiny little rental house they'd managed to snag was criminally overpriced. But she knew staying at The Black Dragon would have been much more expensive (she had researched it, though, sighing wistfully at the state of the art spa and the luxurious suites. The Targaryens ran the finest hotels, though she'd only ever been in one once, with Joffrey last year. The hotel had been wonderful, Joffrey not so much).
Instead of going to a beautiful beachside resort bar with free drinks included in some package, she instead heads to a much less fancy one open to the public.
The bar is crowded with people just like her – the recently graduated, ready to celebrate their last bits of freedom before succumbing to finding a job and becoming an Adult. She has to push her way through the throng of people, wincing as her burnt arms and shoulders scrape against bodies. The air is thick and hot under the canopy, despite the open sides. When she manages to push her way to the front, she can see three bartenders all busy but she can't manage to get close enough to flag one down.
Some girl pushes forward and knocks Sansa back and she hisses in pain as her burned shoulder strikes a solid mass behind her.
“Whoa,” a voice says and hands come up to brace her arms as she regains her balance – a kind gesture, but one that is causing her even more pain and she pulls away from the grip with a grimace. “Sorry,” the voice says and when she turns, she finds some guy standing and staring at her shoulder. When she looks down, she can see the white imprints of his hands slowly fading back to red. “Looks painful,” he nods at her arm and she rolls her eyes at how obvious that is.
“Turns out, I'm not exactly made for the sun,” she says and he lets out a small laugh and that's when she really gets a good look at him.
Well, she thinks, perhaps this trip wasn't going to be a total loss.
“Need a drink?” he asks and nods at the bar. In their short time talking, she has somehow managed to get pushed even further away from the bar and she nods. “What do you want?”
“Honestly? Just water,” she decides. She had been coming for a real drink, but now that she's in this mass of bodies, all she can think is how dehydrated she must be. “I was also gonna get one for my friend.”
He nods and then moves and she watches in confusion as he slides behind the bar and leans down and grabs two water bottles from out of nowhere. She opens her mouth to protest – sure the lines are long but stealing isn't the option – when she sees one of the bartenders give him a nod and her savior nods back before coming back over to her.
“Impressive,” she says over the din of the crowd and if she leans a little closer than necessary for him to hear, well, he doesn't seem to mind.
“I know the owner,” he shrugs but she thinks he looks proud of himself. “Wanna get out of here?”
She can't decide if this is a cheesy pickup line or not but she doesn't really care because she does want to get out of here. She follows him out and back onto the beach.
“Jon,” he holds out his hand and she maneuvers the water bottle she's holding into the crook of her arm, wipes the condensation off her hand onto her wrap, and takes his hand.
“Sansa.”
Gods, what did all those romance stories she used to read talk about? Sparks flying at the first touch? An immediate connection? Nonsense, she would have told anyone just thirty seconds prior.
“You're far from home,” he says and now that they're out of the crowd, she can hear the slight Northern accent in his own voice, though it's much less pronounced than her own.
“Winterfell,” she explains and he nods. “You?”
“I used to live in White Harbor with my mom when I was a kid,” he explains. “Moved around a lot after that.”
“And now you live here?”
He shrugs noncommittally. “Mostly just working here for the summer,” he says, but doesn't elaborate.
“And when it's not the summer?”
She's not sure why she's prying. It's rude and she and Jeyne and Beth had been talking about finding summer flings. Flings do not need a background. In fact, she's pretty sure the whole point of a fling is to not know that much about the other person, to not get involved.
“Move around a lot,” he says again. “For work.”
“You're a spy,” she jokes and that makes him break out into a smile and oh, he looks very nice when he smiles.
“You caught me,” he laughs.
“Not a very good one if I was able to figure it out.”
She expects him to make some sort of joke about killing her now that she knows his secret, but just as he's opening his mouth to say something, a boy with nearly white blonde hair sidles up next to Jon and, without acknowledging Jon's presence, gives her a once over.
“Well hello,” he drawls with a blinding smile that might have been charming if it weren't for the fact that she was clearly talking to Jon. “Who might you be?”
“None of your business,” she snaps (her mother would probably be appalled at her manners but really, how rude is it to interrupt a conversation to hit on her?)
The blonde doesn't seem shaken at all, he just grins.
“I'm Aegon,” he extends a hand that she does not take. His clothes are expensive and well tailored and she wants to cry at the fact that he's in those shoes in the sand. They'll be ruined forever and he doesn't seem to care. He's clearly some rich asshole from the resort.
“I'm not interested.”
Instead of being put off, he laughs and then turns to look at Jon with a raised eyebrow.
“But you're interested in this guy?” he points at Jon with a shit eating grin as Jon glares back. “I didn't mention my last name, it's Aegon Targaryen.”
Honestly, if it hadn't been for Joffrey, if she was still the girl she was in high school, she might have swooned at that. Might have thought he was some prince just because he had money and a name. As it is, she's had just about enough of lazy, arrogant heirs.
Instead of responding to him, she turns back to Jon and says “sorry, people with money seem to think they can get away with anything. You were about to say something?”
If Aegon Targaryen is insulted that she's ignoring him, he doesn't show it. In fact, he looks downright gleeful, which is actually more worrying.
“Fine,” Aegon interrupts again, sighing wistfully, like his fun is ruined. “I'll go. But before I do-” he turns to Jon and claps him on the shoulder, “dad's looking for you.”
For a moment she is frozen to the spot as Jon groans.
Dad?
They are not brothers, she thinks, looking between them for any resemblance – Aegon is all pale hair and pale skin and pale eyes and expensive clothing and Jon is dark hair and tanned skin and jeans and a t-shirt.
When Jon doesn't argue, she realizes it must be true and when she looks a bit harder, she thinks maybe the nose is the same, but that's all she can really see.
“Sorry to interrupt your flirting,” Aegon grins, “but there's some issue and dad wants you to sort it out.”
“You sure he asked for me and you're not just trying to get out of doing it yourself?”
Sansa has known these men for all of five minutes but she can already sense this is a common argument from the easy smile on Aegon's face and the exhausted tone of Jon's voice.
“East wing,” the blonde says, giving Jon, then her, one last smile before he walks off.
“Sorry,” Jon mutters and throws a look over his shoulder, down the beach, and when she follows his gaze, she finds herself looking straight at The Black Dragon.
“It's ok,” she tries not to let her disappointment (and, honestly, surprised confusion) show in her voice. “I should get this to my friend and make sure she's still alive,” she indicates the water bottles in her hand and when she looks out onto the beach, she can see Beth is back at their blanket and chatting to a Jeyne who has her head buried in her arms.
“Maybe I could see you later?” The words rush out of him and she thinks he wasn't really planning to say them and her heart gives a wild leap in her chest.
Her mind is screaming at her to stay away if he's a Targaryen. Look how terrible Joffrey had been; the Targaryens are an even older name, even wealthier. Old, old money.
“Even though I insulted your brother?” she manages to get out.
“Half brother,” he shrugs. “Plus, he deserves it.” She can't think of a single thing to say and she watches him shove his hands into his pockets and she realizes she never answered his question.
“Later?”
“If you want,” he's quick to add, like he can tell his half brother has thrown her for a loop. “I could take you to dinner? Somewhere maybe that isn't...” he gestures back towards the resort. “Unless that's where you want to go?”
“No, somewhere else is fine,” she finds herself agreeing without really realizing the words are coming out of her. And then suddenly she's handing over her phone and he's giving her his and she's putting her number into it and she tries to calm her racing heart.
He hands her back her phone with a smile that isn't nearly as smooth and charming as Aegon's had been, but is somehow much more endearing.
“I'll call you,” he promises before taking off in the direction of The Black Dragon.
A fling, that's all this needs to be. If he's anything like Joffrey, she can be rid of him easily, no harm, no foul. And even if he's not a monster like Joffrey but was still an entitled rich kid, that doesn't mean she can't have some fun with him. Just a nice, casual, summer fling.
As he's walking away, he turns to look back over his shoulder and he gives her another smile that crinkles up the corners of his eyes and she takes a deep breath to calm herself.
Just a summer fling, she tells herself. Definitely just a summer fling.

Almost Too Late
This is for @idreamofplaid and @girl-next-door-writes for their ‘They Belong to Us Now’ Challenge. Hope you guys like it! Congrats on your milestones btw.
Warnings: Swearing, death mentioned, dark spirits, kissing at the end, pining I’m going to say PG-14
Prompt #16: If You die, I’m going to kill you.
Theme: AU Castle
Pairing: Sam x reader
Tumblr media
Life was good, or mostly. My friends and I hunt monsters, save people from the things that go bump in the night. This isn’t what your thinking though. We don’t drive places. Most of our travel is done by horseback or hiking. The industrial revolution came, left, and is in the process of being reborn, but it’s very slow going.
Every day is a new adventure. It’s just four of us: me, Dean, Sam, and my friend Charlie. Oh, and spoiler alert…I’ve had a major crush on Sam forever! Like seriously. I mentally drool when he talks to me, stands close to me, and my underwear is a sopping mess by the time the day ends. It’s super hard being so attracted to him, especially since he has no clue. I hesitate to bring it up, my worst fear is that confessing my feelings would ruin what we have.
That would kill me.
So I suffer silently. Charlie has noticed my pining, and has tried to get me to admit my feelings to him. But I’m terrified. If I lost him because I chose to share my attraction, I’d never be able to live with myself. I would lose the one thing in my life worth living for, besides friends, and that would kill me, literally.
I’ve pictured all the different ways I could approach the subject. I could casually just walk beside him and slide into my feelings. I could just jump him while everyone’s sleeping (my personal favorite…for obvious reasons) but what if he rejects my advances? I just can’t find an outcome where I’m not overthinking, where I don’t see chances of disaster, of rejection, of heartbreak.
Ugh. FML. Seriously.
**
Our travels bring us to a long abandoned castle. It’s creepy as fuck, but if properly fixed and cleaned up, it could actually be a really good home for us to work out of, a place where we can just hold up and crash, seek safety, keep our belongings we don’t usually need on hunts.
It’s really big, in an intimidating sort of way. I shiver as I walk closer and touch the stone walls. There’s a presence or two here, things that are tethered to this ancient land, to this castle. It’s dark, and dangerous.
And it knows we’re here.
“Guys? We’re not alone here.”
Sam, Dean and Charlie all turn towards me, and wait. They know I’m able to feel things, so if I say to be careful, they listen.
I continue. “I don’t know if there’s more than one, but whatever is in here is dangerous, like deadly. And it already knows we’re here. The good news? It hates light. Bad news though…the sun will be setting in a couple of hours. We won’t stand a chance if we don’t make a plan.”
“Is it worth us even staying? I mean, we could always find another place to shack up.” Dean’s voice tells me he’s going against his heart. He really likes this place as much as the rest of us, but he also knows not to take my feelings lightly.
“Maybe, but how often do we come across such a magnificent place? A lot of castles have long since been destroyed by one disaster or another. With some work, and luck, we could make this our home. I love the idea of having a solid place to rest once in a while.”
I love Charlie. She’s never one to beat around the bush. Straight forward and honest. I nod in agreement, but as I stare at the dark looming windows and the ancient structure of the castle, I can’t help but wonder if Dean might have a point. I personally have never felt something this dangerous before and frankly, I honestly don’t know how to deal with whatever dwells inside.
**
The human called YN is correct, something dark and dangerous does occupy this castle. Me. I am the biggest threat here, the banshee that recently sought refuge here is nothing compared to my dark power.
I am a void, a darkness, sentient and silent. I feed off fear and humans, the ones that are foolish enough to try and remove me from my home. Many have tried. None have succeeded.
I am near indestructible. I revel in the power I possess. I will never let anyone take it from me.
I used to be malicious, hell bent on finding the next willing victim to feed my hungry darkness. Then my brother entity, the one hunters dubbed “the Empty” made a deal with an angel, where the angel would help save what was left of this world and then go willingly into that void.
The anguish I felt from those the angel considered family was horrific. They mourned. I hated the idea that the one like me could be so cruel. We were made for harbouring souls, ones that had no other place to go. We were made to feed on those dead and lost, to grow and suck the life from them. But we were never to make deals to take a willing live being, no matter the end game.
That was what our creator told us. My brother didn’t listen.
I did.
I left because of that. And was punished for it.
Now I am tethered to this stone building. I’ve been here for a long time, and have grown quite fond of the peace and quiet. Most of my energy is gotten from stray animals, or the occasional human. But I absolutely refuse to leave.
So I prepare to fight. I won’t lose this home.
**
Sam peeks through the door and down the dark hall. “Sounds like fun. Shall we?” He grabs a flashlight and steps over the threshold. The moment he does, I feel the change in whatever has possessed this place.
I grab his arm. “Sam, be careful.”
He nods. “Always.”
I snort at that response, because for as much as I love the brothers, they have had a tendency to get into some stupid situations.
Dean follows Sam, then Charlie and I step inside. I’m blown away from what greets us. The first archway we encounter opens to a massive foyer, large enough to rival a grand ballroom, with corridors leading off in all directions, as well as a grand wide staircase, gleaming with gold accents and dark cherry wood railings. All I was missing was the fancy ball gown and a crowd of ballroom dancers to complete the picture.
Honestly it felt like we’d stepped into a fairy tale, but the danger looming in the background dispelled that notion pretty quick. And now that we were inside, I could definitely sense more than one. The first one, the dark presence that resided in the walls, it was intelligent, and it didn’t feel as threatening as the other. Spirit number two was restless, malevolent, and downright deadly.
“Guys, just a heads up. There’s two different entities here, both are dangerous, but one of them is more so than the other. Be careful. We go in pairs. Watch each other’s backs.”
Everyone nods, and Dean whisks me down one hall while Sam and Charlie explore the other. The moment we’re alone, Dean calls me out on what I didn’t say.
“Ok hotshot, spill. What aren’t you telling us?”
I sigh. Dean knows I have a thing for his brother, and has encouraged me numerous times to tell Sam how I feel. He also knows I have a habit of keeping important information from the others when I feel like it could jeopardise an outcome.
I stop and face my friend. “It’s just a feeling Dean. Honest.”
Dean purses his lips as if trying to figure out if my words are the truth. “Ok. But the moment that changes, you tell us. None of this hero bullshit you usually pull. I saw the look in your eyes. Your spooked. And you never get spooked like this.”
He’s right. It’s one of the reasons I’m good at hunting the things that go bump in the night. I don’t scare easily.
I nod. “I know. I promise to tell you if the feeling becomes more. Ok? Can we drop it now?”
He does, but only because I have a tendency to blow a fuse if I’m pushed too far. And I need to be on top of my game if I want to stay ahead of the dark.
An ear-splitting, high pitched scream echoes through the entire castle, the walls vibrating as it bounces off everything it touches.
Dean and I look at each other and say at the same time. “Banshee!!”
We radio Charlie and Sam. They confirm they heard the creature as well, and promise to keep a close eye on their surroundings. I can’t shake the heavy feeling in the pit of my stomach though. It’s almost like someone’s going to die…
FUCK!
“Dean! We have to find Sam and Charlie now!”
He takes one look at my facial expression, and whatever he finds there is enough to convince him not to argue. Another banshee scream fills the halls, and we take off back to the main foyer as we try to radio Charlie and Sam. They don’t answer, so we head in the direction they took when we split off.
The horrible feeling grows with each step, and when we stumble upon a broken two-way radio, I swallow hard. Dean calls out, but neither answer. I look at the elder Winchester, who’s grim looks mirror my own.
Suddenly, we’re thrown across the room by the high pitched wail, having been too distracted to notice her presence. I recover quickly, my need to contain her is great, she is a road block in my quest to find my friends and make sure they are all right. I summon my will, and I throw everything I have, everything I am feeling, at my nemesis. Her screams fade as she disintegrates before our eyes.
It’s then we see Charlie and Sam, both of whom are lying on the ground, motionless. Charlie is moaning and attempting to open her eyes and sit up, but my focus is on Sam, or rather his lack of movement. I’m paralyzed by fear when I notice his shallow breathing, the struggles he has just trying to breathe.
I fall to my knees beside him. “Sam? Baby, talk to me.”
He coughs and smiles weakly, blood trickles out of his mouth with each wheeze. “You called me a pet name. I knew you liked me.”
Tears fell as I smiled at his attempt at humor. “Asshole! Don’t you dare try and distract me. I swear Sam, if you die, I will kill you. Do you hear me? I will fucking hunt your ass down and kill you!”
His answer is to chuckle, but it quickly turns to another bout of coughing, and more blood oozing from his perfect lips. He never gets to say what he’s thinking as his lungs give out, and he stops breathing.
My worlds stops. I can’t breathe.
A gasp leaves my lips, and quickly turns into a strangled cry. I fall over him, hugging his still form, begging him to wake up, to come back to me. I can’t live without him.
Why the hell did I pair with Dean? Why? I could have protected him! I’m such an idiot! And now I’ll never be able to tell him I love him, I’ll never hold him again, or kiss him the way I’ve always imagined.
Because he’s gone.
That’s when I feel the other presence, the heartache that mirrors my own. The entity within the walls is feeling my pain, which is weird in itself, like it’s mourning my loss.
So I engage it in conversation.
You…why do you mourn my loss? I ask it in my head.
There’s no delay in the answer I receive. I have felt human loss before, it saddens me. What makes this human special?
I love him. He is everything to me…the air I breathe, the life in my body. He’s my reason for living. Is my answer.
This time there is considerable pause before it talks to me. I can bring him back for you. All I ask in return is to be allowed to stay in these walls. I have grown to like it here.
Deal. If you can save him, I will not harm you. But you can never harm me or my friends for as long as we live in this place.
The entity agrees, and I feel it join with my mind, it’s darkness seeping into my body, taking my power and my connection to Sam. I involuntarily move my hands to hover over his chest, and close my eyes as power is released from me into him.
Sam’s body shudders and suddenly he gasps, sitting upright, his lungs taking in gulps of fresh air. He coughs then looks at me, eyes wide.
And I fold my arms around his neck and kiss him.
It takes about two seconds for him to kiss me back, parting my lips with his tongue. Kissing Sam is everything I imagined and more, he tastes sweet, like cotton candy. I’m crying again, but it’s tears of joy. I eventually tear my mouth from his, needing to say three words.
“I love you.”
His response comes immediately. “I love you too YN. Always have.”
He kisses me again, leaving Dean and Charlie cheering and teasing us to get a room. I look up, and a shadowy figure smiles in my direction. The entity.
Thank you. I manage.
It nods, then fades into the walls.

Aggravating Acquaintances
Sirius Black x Reader
Summary: Being friends with James Potter was a feat many didn’t have the pleasure of experiencing. However, for (Y/N), the worst thing to happen to their friendship was meeting one Sirius Black on the Hogwarts Express their first year. To say that (Y/N) and Sirius didn’t get along would be an understatement.
Prompt: Hey! Imagine for Sirius with prompts 147 and 71? - Anon
147. “You couldn’t handle me even if I came with instructions.
71. “Are you really flirting with me right now?”
prompt list can be found here
Word Count: 3.8k
Warnings: drinking/alcohol, a few suggestive themes?
A/N: Sirius Black. That’s it. That’s the author’s note. also i really like asshole energy you know? no? idk. bantering and whatnot is a bunch of fun
__
Parties.
(Y/N) never cared for them, if she was being honest with herself. Never once did the idea of drinking her problems away, only to laugh and dance with her friends came to mind. While she never shied away the occasional drink, she never felt the need to have more than a few, to let her inhibitions get the best of her. But now, here she was, surrounded by a pack of bumbling drunkards in a rather crowded Gryffindor common room, wishing for the sweet release of death.
“(Y/N)!” James Potter, Gryffindor Chaser, exclaimed from across the room, practically crawling over the crowd to reach her.
“Hey Jim,” (Y/N) smiled politely, choosing to ignore the way his eyes were pleasantly glazed over. He had a habit of going too hard, too quick. “How’s the party treating you?”
“Never been better,” James said, trying not to shout. “Gryffindor won the match!” So much for not shouting. A few Gryffindor students aided in the chant. Some rogue Hufflepuff students chimed in as well.
“I know,” (Y/N) laughed, placing a hand on his shoulder. “I was watching the whole thing, remember?”
“Oh yeah,” James laughed. “Did you think Evans saw me?” His head whipped around, eyes scanning for the redhead.
“Oh she saw you,” (Y/N) said, nodding lightly. “How could she ignore the way you fell off your broom?”
“Hey!” James said, his attention drawing back to (Y/N). “Almost. I almost fell off my broom, caught myself in the end,” he laughed, “wouldn’t want to spend this night with Poppy, would I?”
“Suppose not,” (Y/N) said, taking a sip from her glass. It was mostly  pumpkin juice, the scent alone was a giveaway, but one of (Y/N)’s roommates insisted on adding some firewhisky, just to shake things up. The warmth traveled to her chest with every sip. It wasn’t terribly unpleasant. “Wouldn’t want to give Evans the wrong idea about who you fancy, no?”
“I love Poppy,” James said, sighing lightly, leaning against the wall. “She really knows how to mend a broken bone…”
“What about a broken heart?” (Y/N) asked, pointing to a couple across the room. There, in the corner, Lily Evans and a Ravenclaw boy whose name escaped (Y/N)’s recollection. They looked to be awfully close, whispering sweet nothings in the midst of the crowded room.
“Why do you have to do that?” James asked, groaning ever so slightly. “Ruin my high?”
“It’s my job,” (Y/N) shrugged, taking another sip. “You know, friend code and all.”
“I don’t think that’s very friendly of you, (Y/N),” James said, eyes growing sharp.
“Look, either you saw it now or saw it later,” (Y/N) said nonchalantly. “I figured if I told you now, you’d at least have half a mind to go and try to change it, wouldn’t you?”
“I suppose you’re right,” James said, the dark look on his face contorting to one of intrigue. “Strike while the iron’s hot!”
“Exactly,” (Y/N) smiled, pushing his shoulder. “Go get ‘em, tiger.”
Without another word, James pounced across the crowded room, a faint shrieking of Lily’s name rang throughout the carpeted walls. (Y/N) laughed, noting how the girl’s emerald eyes met with the ceiling, pulling the boy dressed in blue away from James’ persistent swooning.
“Pumpkin juice? At a party?” A voice behind her chanted, nearly right next to her face.
(Y/N) turned to the sound. There, in all his glory was Sirius Black, the man she had a less than ideal share of run-ins with. They were known to butt heads, ever since their first year.
“Oh, hello Sirius,” (Y/N) said cooly. She took a large swig of her drink, nearly half the cup in one go.
“Would you like me to fetch you a juice box too? Maybe a blankie?” Sirius laughed, finding himself leaning against the wall near (Y/N).
“Would it be one of yours? Because I’ve forgotten mine all the way back home…”(Y/N) said, the fakest smile she could muster adorned to her face.
“Funny girl,” Sirius said, downing the rest of whatever was in his cup, setting the empty chalice down near his feet. “Would you want it to be one of mine?”
“And to be covered in dog hair?” (Y/N) said, nearly snorting. “Fat chance.”
“Oh come off it, (L/N),” Sirius grinned, “I’ll make it smell extra rugged, just for you.”
“Rugged how?” (Y/N) inquired, crossing her arms as best she could, drink still in hand. “Cigarettes and wet dog?”
“Exactly,” Sirius said, “extra rugged.”
“Right,” (Y/N) laughed, turning to ignore Sirius, her attention back onto James across the room. Sirius followed her eye line, watching her stare almost intently at the Gryffindor.
“Oi,” Sirius said, waving a hand in front of (Y/N)’s face. “Let him have his fun, he doesn’t need mummy around to keep an eye on him.”
“I’m not his mum,” (Y/N) said.
“Sure act like it,” Sirius said, picking at his fingernails. “Always doting on him, scolding him for every little thing—”
“I only scold him if it involves you, Sirius,” (Y/N) said, pointing an eyebrow at the grey-eyed boy. “The shit the two of you get into, I swear—”
“You shouldn’t have to scold him, you’re not his mum.”
“I literally just said I wasn’t,” (Y/N) said, growing annoyed. “I just care about him, okay? I’ve known him longer than you—thanks, by the way—so I think I owe it to myself to make sure he’s not going to kill himself—”
“Oh wow, little (L/N) pulling the ‘I’ve been his neighbor since forever, therefore I think I know everything about him’ card again,” Sirius said, his voice mocking (Y/N)’s. “Grow up, relax and let him have his fun.”
“Your impression of me is quite good, did you practice that in the mirror?” (Y/N) said, growing hot with anger, not that she’d give Black the time of day to know it.
“I think the key to a good (Y/N) impression is the shrillness in the voice,” Sirius said, nodding lightly. “Though your beautifully enchanting—but ice-cold—stare is hard to pinpoint, I’ll admit.”
“Beautifully enchanting?” (Y/N) laughed, the heat in her face not ceasing.
“Yep,” Sirius nodded, unashamed. “I figured talking about your big mouth was already pretty obvious, didn’t need to—”
(Y/N) slapped him hard against the arm.
“I should add terribly mean to the list,” Sirius mumbled, rubbing the place of contact, a slight grimace doting his expression.
“Terribly mean?” (Y/N) nearly laughed. “You’re the one saying I have a big mouth!”
“You do,” Sirius said, “not backing down from that one, never.”
“You annoy the hell out of me, Sirius,” (Y/N) said, finishing her glass. “I’m going to get another drink—”
“Allow me,” Sirius said, pressing a hand against (Y/N)’s chest, preventing her escape. He pulled his sleek wand from his back pocket, waving it ever so slightly. With ease, two—rather full—glasses found their way through the air, above the commotion of the room and into their space. “Take it,” he motioned to the still floating cup, taking a large swig of his, “I reckon a bit of actual alcohol will make you a bit more lively.”
“Please,” (Y/N) said, grabbing the glass tightly, bringing the brim to her lips. The hot burning of cinnamon met her tongue instantly. If she had a splash of firewhisky before, this might as well have been a tsunami, the liquor coating her throat. “Oh my God, how much is—”
(Y/N) let out a sputtering cough, unable to hold the liquid well. Sirius merely smiled.
“Peter’s been making them,” Sirius said, nodding to the pudgy Gryffindor across the room. “I tried teaching him how to count out his shots, but he’s still got a bit of work to go,” he took another sip, “though, makes for a hell of a punch, doesn’t it?”
“I’ll say,” (Y/N) said, eyeing the drink in her hand cautiously, “Why have you let Peter take over your usual job? Last time I came to one of these, I distinctly remember you were the one making the drinks.”
“Ah,” Sirius clicked, staring into his own cup. “Felt like I should give Peter a spin, considering he’s been nagging me about it practically all year.”
“Why’s that?” (Y/N) asked.
“Easy,” he took another sip, “being the bartender means you get all the girls practically batting their eyes at you all night,” Sirius said, grinning widely.
“Makes sense why you like the job so much,” (Y/N) said, pressing her back against the wall. “Those kind of girls can’t keep their eyes off of you.”
“So you’ve noticed?” Sirius smirked, “thought you didn’t may much mind to my life, isn’t that right?”
“O-of course not,” (Y/N) said, stammering lightly, “it’s hard to ignore the girls who throw themselves at you,” (Y/N) found herself burying her words into her cup, gulping quickly. “Hell, nearly all of my roommates can’t stop their insistent conversations about your hair—or whatever—halfway into the night. It’s exhausting.”
“What about my hair?” Sirius asked, bringing a hand up to his long locks.
“Nope,” (Y/N) shook her head, “not falling for that one. You don’t get the pleasantries of me repeating compliments to stroke your already large ego,” she shook her head again. “No way.”
“So you think it’s huge?” Sirius said, glancing down at (Y/N), that shit eating grin plastered to his face.
“Shove it.”
“Wouldn’t you like that pleasure, hm?”
“Sirius,” (Y/N) said plainly, “are you really flirting with me right now?”
“I might,” Sirius shrugged, almost unbothered.
It wouldn’t have been the first time he had done it. Sirius Black was anything if not perceptive to his surroundings, noting how his—what was hopefully an obvious joke—flirting flustered (Y/N) every so often. How he loved to push her buttons, make her squirm.
“Why don’t you go and try your luck on someone who’ll care?” (Y/N) sputtered, pointing her glass-filled hand over to a group of girls who had been staring at Sirius for so long, they might as well have been made of stone. “I’m sure you’d get a better reaction out of them, wouldn’t you agree?”
“Don’t want to flirt with them,” Sirius said, giving a polite wave to the girls across the way. One looked as if she was ready to faint. “Would rather annoy you.”
“How charming,” (Y/N) said, her voice cool as ice.
“You’re not shooing me away,” Sirius said, almost in shock. “Normally this is the part of the conversation where you promise to hex me or,” he waved his hand dramatically, “go and complain to Potter. What gives?”
“I’m drunk,” (Y/N) lied, taking another sip as if to prove her point. “Sue me.”
“If you’re drunk, then I’m the Queen of England,” Sirius laughed, his chest bobbing up and down. “There’s more to it,” he pressed a finger to (Y/N)’s cheek, pushing her head to the side, “admit it. Go on, I’m all ears.”
“What do you want me to say, Black? That I fancy your company?” (Y/N) said, almost surprised at her honesty. Perhaps the firewhisky was working a bit faster than she expected. It had been a long time since she had as many drinks as she did, but she blamed the excess drinks on the grey eyed boy standing near her.
“Fancy my company?” Sirius repeated, nearly as stunned as (Y/N). “Since when has that ever been the case?”
“Since all my friends ditched me,” (Y/N) said, staring back into her cup. “One of them went back to our dorm, a boy on each arm—Godric, I don’t even want to go back in there. I don’t know what I’m going to get myself into going back to that…”
“Rotten friends,” Sirius said, “even if they are getting laid. S’not right.”
“Figured it was either chat with you or look like a terribly sad fly on the wall,” (Y/N) said, “I chose the latter.”
“Honestly, I’m honored,” Sirius said, bowing lightly. “Truly and utterly honored to be of service.”
(Y/N) didn’t know why she had even bothered to spend another second with Sirius Black, if she was being completely honest. The entire time she had known him—first year, met on the train—he had been the constant thorn in her side. She clung to James quite a bit back then, that was something she could admit, but James acquiring another close friend, someone so unlike herself, really ground her gears. Black and (L/N), like oil and water, could coexist for a bit but never truly mix.
“You should be,” (Y/N) said, feeling herself grow a bit lighter. The alcohol, she assumed was the cause, nothing more. “I’m surprised you’re even chatting with me this long anyway,” (Y/N) fought back a yawn, “thought my perfume would scare you away, has in the past.”
“It’s grown on me,” Sirius said plainly, “better than the rubbish James’ been using to woo Lily, stinks up the entire room.”
“Tell me about it,” (Y/N) laughed, recalling the repugnant aroma that James swore up and down would win Lily over, the woman at the department store said so herself. “I told him when he bought it that it wouldn’t work, still didn’t listen.”
“He really doesn’t listen,” Sirius said, glancing over at James. He had been sulking in the corner, rejected by Lily. “But I reckon we could do him a favor.”
“A favor?” (Y/N) asked, draining the rest of her drink. “What’re you thinking?”
“Let’s go destroy that cologne,” Sirius said, pulling on (Y/N) sleeve, headed towards the dormitory. “Together. You know, since we’re friends now.”
“I never said that,” (Y/N) scoffed, following Sirius up the stairs, the lightness in her chest expanding. Sirius pulled (Y/N) into their room, conveniently empty. “Well? Where does James keep the bottle?”
“Not sure,” Sirius said, shutting the door, getting a stink eye from (Y/N), “what? I don’t want Prongs walking in here while we destroy his property.”
“Fine,” (Y/N) laughed, flinging herself onto James’ bed, rolling to the foot. She propped herself onto her elbows, head hanging over the bright red trunk at the end of the bed.  “Do you think it’s in his trunk?”
“Seems like a good place to start,” Sirius said, kneeling before the trunk, hands tracing the latches. “You’re going to want to move your head, sweets,” Sirius laughed, pushing (Y/N)’s head back, “wouldn’t want to hit your pretty face, would we?”
“So you think it’s pretty?” (Y/N) smirked, pursing her lips. She could almost see Sirius’ eyes roll to the back of his head, for just a moment. “What? So you can flirt with me, but I can’t dish it back? Seems awfully silly, Black.”
“Wasn’t flirting,” Sirius said, rifling through James’ trunk.
“No?” (Y/N) giggled, rolling to her back, the top of James’ red four-poster filling her sight. “You called me pretty.”
“And you are,” Sirius said, lifting up a few books, eyes scanning the contents beneath them. “It’s the truth.”
“So that’s not considered flirting?” (Y/N) asked, growing confused.
“I call all the girls pretty,” Sirius said, smirking up at (Y/N). “Fact of life, sweets.”
“There you go again,” (Y/N) said, pointing her finger upwards, “calling me ‘sweets’! If that’s not flirting, I don’t know what is!”
“Is it?” Sirius asked, closing the trunk. A large smirk was plastered to his face.
“Holy fuck!” (Y/N) exclaimed, throwing her hands into her face. “You are so aggravating! First you’re flirting with me, then you claim that you’re not and now you’re just playing mind games with me!” (Y/N) groaned, rolling back onto her chest, face planted into the sheets. “I wish you came with instructions, for fucks sake. At least then I’d be able to somewhat understand you.”
“You couldn’t handle me even if I came with instructions, love,” Sirius said, head resting comfortably on his hand.
“What kind of a line is—”
It was then when she lifted her head, (Y/N) noticed, how close Sirius’ face was to her own. She never noticed the mole on his nose, slightly above his left nostril. Granted, she had never been this close to Sirius before to have noticed the little brown spot. Actually, now that she looked a bit closer, Sirius Black had a few other moles on his cheeks and one right above his lips. If one didn’t know any better, they’d mistake them for freckles. The sporadic placement of these little marks were enchanting, almost like a perfect constellation, unique and intriguing.
“I—uhm—you’re a little close,” (Y/N) said, not moving an inch.
“Hypocrite,” Sirius said, staying as still as a statue.
“Did—did you find the…” (Y/N) tried to find her thought, her mind wandering, finding a home in Sirius’ grey eyes.
“Cologne? No,” Sirius shook his head ever so slightly, eyes not breaking away from (Y/N)’s.
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
(Y/N) moved her gaze upward, finding solace in the rich reds of the canopy above. In her most recent memory, she couldn’t come up with a time she felt exactly this way, let alone with Sirius Black of all people. She waited a moment before peeking back at the boy at the foot of the bed, her eyes flicking immediately back up to the canopy when she noticed Sirius’ gaze still upon her.
“Why are you staring at me?”
“You’re hard to look away from,” Sirius said, finally adjusting his position.
“Shut it—”
“No,” Sirius said, his voice almost stern. (Y/N) brought herself to turn herself back towards the Gryffindor, curious. “I said what I said.”
“You’re drunk,” (Y/N) laughed, pushing his face away, finding the bit of breathing room she created immensely calming for a moment.
“I’m not,” Sirius said, rebounding to his original position quickly, if not closer. “Are you?”
“No,” (Y/N) said honestly.
“Good.”
That was all he said. Because in the next moment, Sirius’ lips were on (Y/N)’s. The hand that held his own head up was caressing (Y/N)’s cheek, more gentle than the actions against their lips. The kiss was hot, needy, almost. The tension had snapped like a rubber band, quick and suddenly. But just as quick as it came, (Y/N) pulled away.
“Sirius what the—”
“Oh come on,” Sirius laughed, hopping up onto the trunk, seated neatly in front of (Y/N). “Don’t tell me you’ve never thought about doing that? Besides,” a hand stroked his chin thoughtfully, “you kissed me back.”
“That’s—no—Sirius!” (Y/N) was at a loss for words, the warmth that had radiated from her chest had spread to her entire body in that single motion, what once she could’ve blamed on the alcohol became very telling of her true feelings. She couldn’t deny that she didn’t kiss him back, because that would’ve been an outright lie. Only one thought rang through her mind. “Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why did you kiss me?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Sirius asked, his grin fading. (Y/N) shook her head. “Well, you must really be thick, then,” he ran a hand through his hair, pushing the stray locks back, “well, considering our sexual tension is always so thick you could cut it with a knife—”
“Sexual tension?” (Y/N) laughed, almost against herself. “Is that what you call it?”
“I mean, sure, it started with a visceral hate for one other—first year was a rough one for that—but you can’t deny our chemistry,” Sirius said thoughtfully. “Who would’ve thought I’ve got the hots for the girl who made my blood boil every time I saw her?”
“Made? Like, past tense?”
“Of course,” Sirius nodded, “well, I suppose you make my blood boil in other ways, sweets.”
“Disgusting,” (Y/N) laughed, pushing Sirius away.
“But you could say in less ways and words that I fancy you, (Y/N),” he shrugged again, “I mean, you’re the only person in this castle who’ll call me out for my bullshit—”
“Incorrect, Remus and various other teachers do too—”
“You’re the only one who calls me out for my bullshit that I’ll listen to,” Sirius corrected, “what can I say? You don’t fawn over me or trip over yourself to get my attention. Quite frankly, you avoid me whenever possible.”
“So, you’re saying you like the chase?”
“Something like that,” Sirius laughed, placing a hand on the bed. “Not to mention that you’re bloody beautiful,” he moved his hand to touch hers, ever so lightly, “and you already get along with my mates—”
“One of them was my best friend before you trailed along, thanks,” (Y/N) said, her smirk growing. She didn’t hate the way his hand felt atop of hers.
“And I’m forever grateful for it,” Sirius said, his face softening. “Grateful for James for introducing me to the biggest pain in my ass.”
“Not the smoothest way to pick up a girl,” (Y/N) laughed.
“But it’s working, isn’t it?”
“I suppose,” (Y/N) smiled, feeling her own face relax. “For some reason.”
(Y/N) allowed herself to give Sirius another kiss, this time, one she initiated. It was softer than before, but still held every ounce of energy like the last. As if like a bucket of ice water had been poured over them, (Y/N) pulled away.
“Wait a minute,” (Y/N) pressed her hand against Sirius’ chest, as he had begun to seek the previous contact. “You let Peter make the drinks tonight.”
“And...?”
“Oh my God!” (Y/N) said, feeling a wave of realization come over her. “You were planning this all along!”
“Well—uhm—not exactly like—”
“Admit it, Sirius Black,” (Y/N) said, poking a finger to his chest, “admit that you let Peter take over your prestigious bartending duties so you could try and woo me!”
“Woo you? What are we? Fifty?”
“Sirius—”
“Alright,” Sirius laughed, pressing a kiss to (Y/N)’s nose. “I admit it. I figured tonight wouldn’t be the worst time to try to make a move, so I needed to be mobile.”
“You’re such a fucking idiot,” (Y/N) laughed, pressing her lips back onto his, resuming their previous motions.
While the two had quite a bit more to talk about after their laughter ceased—and things that involved not talking—(Y/N) grew ever more thankful that she chose to attend the gathering this evening. While Sirius still had quite the long way to make up for his previous jokes and pranks he had pulled on (Y/N) in the past—one really can’t forget the forever sticking chewing gum that plastered her robes all of second year—he figured a bit of smooth talking could glaze over any of the cracks. That, and kisses she’d be damned to forget the rest of her life. Two remedies for a sour situation.
They never did find that cologne.

I’m so sorry that you’ve waited about a century for me to finish this... but I tried to make up for that by including a zesty meme to go with this lmao
Also I’m glad you enjoyed intoxicated, it’s literally one of my favourite things I’ve ever written!! I hope this one shot is what you had in mind!

I’ll Make a Man Out of You
You were struggling today, more than most months. Usually you managed to get through stomach cramps with a few painkillers, but today you were practically keeling over, and it hadn't escaped the notice of the other Knights of Ren.
"Nuren? You okay?" Kuruk had asked you in the midst of sparring, noticing that your movements were sloppy as you tried to ignore the crippling pain in your stomach.
"Yeah, I'm just feeling a bit under the weather." You tried to play it off, your voice coming off modulated due to your helmet. You were the only knight who always wore their helmet, the others took theirs off to socialise but you had to keep your secret safe, so you had told them from day one that you had taken an oath to never allow any sentient being to see your face, something you knew was common amongst the Mandalorian clans.
It was a solitary life, lying every day to the people whom you cared about more than anyone else, but you were in too deep to tell them to truth now. There had never been a woman amongst the Knights of Ren, and that wasn't likely to change - at least, not as far as anyone knew. You would just continue to miss out on drinking and eating with your brothers, being forced to sit in the corner and try your best to join in with their merriment.
Even your leader, Kylo Ren, had no idea of the truth. For years now you had concealed your gender from them, but you had never intended for it to go this far. You had joined the knights when they had come to your homestead seeking your brother, who was Force sensitive. He hid when they had shown up and you sent the knights on a cold trail to look for him, but after they left you had considered things. You were desperate for an escape and for adventure, plus you were also Force sensitive, so you had decided to drop everything and chase after them in place of your brother. You had concealed your identity by donning simple armour, which was soon replaced once they had taken you on board.
You took on the name Nuren, which meant 'woman' in your planet's dialect - hidden in plain sight, and you had never looked back. Sure, nothing about it was easy, but you wouldn't dare quit, you quickly found yourself enjoying the training, missions and most importantly: the brotherhood.
"Perhaps we should call it a day." Kylo raised his hand to stop the sparring, his gaze unsurprisingly fixated on you. "Nuren, go to the med-bay if you need to." Despite being a terrifying Supreme Leader to most, Kylo Ren cared about his knights, although little did he know that you had just gotten your period - there was nothing seriously wrong with you.
Over the years you had learnt a lot about concealing your emotions, particularly those where Master Ren was concerned. There were thousands of people in the galaxy whom you could have fallen for, but you had to choose to fall for Kylo Ren - the one man you could never have, for more reason than one. Most obviously: he thought you were a man who could under no circumstances remove his helmet in front of other people. But aside from that, even if he did know the truth, how could it ever work? You were one of his knights. Although admittedly, you had spent a lot of time alone at night dreaming that it could work.
"That's okay Master Ren, I think I just need to rest." You stood tall as you spoke to him, despite the sharp pain that was still twisting your stomach.
"Very well." He nodded, dismissing you all, but you could see the look of concern still on his face.  Curse these cramps for ruining training for you.
You retired alongside your brothers after that, still trying to ignore just how much pain you were in, but they were unsurprisingly teasing you about it.
"One little stomach ache takes Nuren down? This is the same guy I once saw singlehandedly take on a Nightsister right?" Cardo gave you a bolshy nudge and the others all laughed.
"He's right, I knew the food they served up on this base was crap, by I didn't realise it was that crap." Trudgen then jested, and you laughed along with them, knowing that this was just how they behaved.
"You think I eat that shit?" You snorted as you all made your way back to your shared common area.
There was a large communal area where the knights all socialised together and attached were seven bedrooms, each sealed behind private blast doors.
"Since we're done for the day, who fancies a drink?" Ap'lek asked the moment you all stepped foot inside, moving over to produce multiple bottles of beer from the fridge.
The others all mumbled in agreement, moving to take off their helmets and make themselves comfortable. Despite knowing that you would decline, the knights never failed to ask you to join them and they had no idea how much that simple gesture meant to you, let alone how much you wanted to accept it.
"How about it Nuren? Nothing like alcohol to cure sickness." Ushar grinned, but you reluctantly shook your head.
"I think I might just turn in and take a nap." You said, your brothers all bidding you farewell before you disappeared behind the doors that lead to your quarters.
As soon as you were alone, you shed yourself of the heavy helmet, as well as the outer layers of your armour. Carrying around that much weight on your body whilst on your period should have been a crime.
Rather than collapsing onto the bed, you moved to dig through your drawers where you had a stash of painkillers hidden for these exact moments - hopefully they would at least give you a few pain-free hours so you could spend some time with the other knights before they got too drunk.
Swallowing down the pill, you knew it would take some time to kick in so you opted to soak in a warm bath until them, that usually helped. From your refresher you could vaguely hear the others all laughing and having fun together. It pained you more and more every day have to be such an outsider, but you feared that if you revealed the truth to them they would never accept you.
You tried not to let your thoughts dwell on negative things whilst you bathed, but it was hard not to. You had everything you ever wanted - but you didn't have it, as far as anyone else was aware your brother was the one living this dream. Could you really go on like this forever? The answer was: yes. You had no choice, you would die with your secret one day.
You eventually left the refresher, a towel wrapped securely around your body. Thankfully, this time your painkillers were actually working, so with any luck you'd be able to join your brothers and simply watch them drink and wish you could join in - just as you always did.
When you pulled on your undergarments you wrapped tight bandaging around your chest to flatten it. It was beyond painful to wear every day, but definitely easier than explaining why you had breasts...
You tugged on your slightly baggy trousers, and your even baggier undershirt. You found that clothes with less shape worked better. However, before you could sweep your hair back into a clean bun and put your helmet on, you heard the blast doors to your room open.
The knights knew to never walk into each other's private quarters unannounced, and there was surely only one other person who could possibly be in the knights' common area.  But why would he be in here?
"I wanted to check that you're okay-" Kylo began, clearly not focusing as he entered.  But when his voice trailed off you knew that he had laid eyes on you.
With your heart in your mouth, you slowly turned around to confirm your worst nightmare. Kylo Ren stood staring at you, his mouth slightly agape. Clearly he hadn't known what to expect, but this was far beyond the parameters of his imagination.
"I can explain-" you quietly said, your voice coming out as nothing but a mere whisper. Your heart was beating so fast it felt like it was going to burst out of your chest.
Clearly just as unsure how to process what he had seen as you were, he simply turned on his heel and fled the room, quickly marching out of the knights' common area altogether.
There was no time for you to panic, you forced yourself to take a deep breath, pulled your helmet on and took off after him, still only wearing your under-layers. As you dashed out, your brothers paid you little mind, they were too caught up in their conversation to notice the commotion.
"Master Ren, wait." You called to him as he was striding ahead of you.
In one sharp motion he turned to you, pushing you against the wall, his gloved hand clasped around your neck where he could see wisps of hair falling out from beneath your helmet.
"I want you to leave this base, and pray that I never see you again." He was cutting off your airwaves, but nevertheless you still attempted to choke out.
"M-Master Ren, please. I-I had to lie." You tried to explain, your voice coming out as a  strained croak.
"And now you have to leave." He hissed, the betrayal in his tone was clear. Without another word he released you and went storming off down the corridor again.
You had no idea what to do, or who to turn to. Perhaps it was just best to heed Kylo's warning and leave. You feared that if Kylo's reaction had been nothing short of death threats, you would be met with a very similar reaction from your fellow knights, but part of you also thought that they deserved to know the truth before you abandoned them.
Besides, now you had nothing left to lose.
When you arrived back in the common area, the knights were all lost in their merriment. Clearly a few drinks down, you could tell they were slightly tipsy, although perhaps that would make this easier.
"I need to tell you something." You planted yourself in the middle of the room, and were immediately met by jeering, something you would've normally embraced and enjoyed, but now your reaction was stone cold.
"Hopefully you're telling us that you're ready to have some fun!" Cardo bellowed, "c'mon Nuren, loosen up a bit."
"No." You grumbled, "I wish I could." Before you open yourself up to more teasing, you reached up and unlatched your helmet, silently revealing the truth to the knights. "You came to my planet looking for my brother, but you got me instead." You quietly explained, dreading the reactions that were to come.
It was so silent that you could hear a pin drop, and part of you feared that they would kill you on the spot for lying to them. Slowly, your brothers rose to their feet, seemingly sobering up in that moment.
"So for all these years, you've been pretending to be your brother?" Ushar asked, his voice level, so much so that you couldn't read his emotions.
"Yes." You hung your head in guilt.
The ominous silence fell once more, and you couldn't bear it any longer. However, as you opened your mouth to speak, a stifled laugh broke through the crippling silence.
You whipped around and saw Kuruk with a hand covering his mouth. "Sorry it's just-" before he could finish there were more uncontrollable laughs escaping his lips. Clearly this laughter was contagious, because before you knew it it was spreading throughout the room.
"I-I can't believe you said you had taken an oath t-to not take the helmet off!" Ap'lek struggled to get his words out through the laughter, "a kriffing oath!" He exclaimed, leaning on Vicrul who was beside him, as they tried to regain their composure.
"This... is really not the reaction I was expecting." Entirely unsure of what to do, you just stood and stared at them all as they continued to crease in fits of laughter. But after a few moments you found yourself unable to avoid the contagious laughter, but you of all people really had no clue what you found so funny.
You were all in stitches for another few minutes before it died down, and despite the circumstances the laughter made you feel as though some of the weight had been lifted off your shoulders. Knowing that your fellow knights weren't angry at you was a much needed relief.
"So why not tell us the truth?" Vicrul eventually asked once they could form coherent sentences.
"The Knights of Ren was no place for a woman." You sighed, throwing yourself down on the couch with your head in your hands, "I wish I had told you earlier, but I always thought you'd be angry - I really didn't expect the laughing fit."
"C'mon Nuren, you should have known us better than that. No matter what, we're brothers... well, now you're our first sister." Ushar chuckled, giving you a solid pat on the back.
As the others echoed his sentiment, you appreciated more than anything that they weren't treating you any differently just because of your gender. There was still that sense of familiarity, and the brotherhood... it was just a shame you couldn't stay.
"So why tell us now?" Ap'lek eventually asked.
"Master Ren-" your tone immediately became more downcast as you remembered the gravity of the situation, "he found out the truth, and he told me to leave. I thought before I go I at least owed you all the truth."
Glances were exchanged, before Cardo spoke up, "no, we won't let you leave."
Your heart nearly burst out of your chest at the gesture, but you couldn't allow yourself to fall into that safety blanket. "Master Ren will have my head if I stay. I betrayed him, and you all know how he responds to betrayal."
"But you forget Nuren, you're a Knight of Ren, and we never leave a brother behind." Trudgen said. "...Or a sister." He then hastened to add.

It had only been a week since everyone had found out the truth. Whilst your fellow knights actually gotten on better with you now that you could drink and socialise with them, the same could not be said for Kylo Ren.
Firstly, he was less than happy about being undermined when it came to you leaving the base. Now you were a constant reminder of his own empty threat. But more importantly, what you didn't realise was that he wanted you gone more than ever because he was developing an inexplicable attraction to you. The worst part was, it wasn't just physical. Whilst he would sit moping in the corner he could see the way you were around the other knights - they clearly adored you, and the fact that a female presence was actually having a positive effect on the group made it even harder for Ren to despise you. He saw the way you could light up a room, and he couldn't help but want you. He was angry for allowing himself to feel such a way, and that unfortunately manifested itself as anger towards you.
The other knights, meanwhile, couldn't possibly look at you in such a way. Perhaps had they met you for the first time as strangers, they would have relentlessly flirted with you as they did so many other women. But you had all spent too much time together in too many awkward situations to ever see each other as more than adopted-siblings.
You were so relieved to finally be able to relax around the knights, but there was always that tension whenever you were around Master Ren. You had been desperately trying to prove yourself to him to show him that you were the same knight you had always been, regardless of your gender - although deep down you knew that it had nothing to do with the fact you were a woman, it was the fact that you had lied to him...
Although for Kylo it was none of these. He knew he had overreacted when he'd first found out the truth, and now he was relieved that the other knights had vouched for you and made him change his mind and let you stay.
You were all sat in the common area, your legs casually thrown over Trudgen's lap for comfort. You each had a drink in hand, as was standard practise for you all on evenings when you had nothing else to do.
"I seriously don't think I can go much longer putting up with him constantly glaring at me." You scoffed, discussing Kylo's apparent hatred of you.
"Sure he used to do that, but now I don't think he's glaring... I don't know, I'm just not getting the same angry energy off him that I was last week." Ap'lek pondered, shrugging his shoulders.
"What do you mean?" Your brow furrowed, but Kuruk was quick to catch on.
"No, Ap'lek's right. He's not glaring, he's staring." He playfully smacked his forehead, "I can't believe we didn't spot it sooner."
"Holy shit, you're right." Vicrul was next to chime in.
You all had a low-level bond through the Force, so you knew pretty much what they were thinking, but that didn't mean you agreed with them.
"Oh come on, Master Ren won't even talk to me anymore and you think that means he likes me? He literally had his hand around my throat a week ago." You snorted, rolling your eyes.
"Yeah, well maybe you enjoyed that." Trudgen teased you from the other side of the sofa, suggestively wiggling his eyebrows, but you swiftly threw a cushion at his face to shut him up.
"It makes so much sense the more I think about it." Ap'lek laughed, shaking his head, "he won't talk to you because he doesn't know how to process emotions. Come on Nuren, when have you ever seen him flirt, or even be nice to a woman?"
Before you could reply, Vicrul summarised it, "it's because he doesn't know how!" At that they all hollered and nudged each other in agreement.
"You're all out of your minds," you laughed, "he wants me dead, not-" before you could finish your sentence with a crude joke, the blast doors flew open to reveal the man himself, and you immediately all fell silent.
It wasn't necessarily unusual for him to come and join you all in your living area, but he hadn't done so since he found out the truth about you. Not to mention, he had picked an awful moment to enter.
"What? You all look like someone's died." He huffed, helping himself to a drink before moving to sit down.
You meanwhile did the opposite and removed your legs from Trudgen's lap and stood up, retiring to your quarters without another word. You didn't particularly want to put up with his glaring, or 'staring' as the knights had now deemed it.
There was nothing to do in your quarters, and you immediately realised that you had just stormed off and now were stuck, so you made a point of dressing in some simple training clothes and heading back out to walk through the common area with your helmet in hand. You pulled it over your head before leaving the rest of the knights alone with Kylo and went off to your training area to run some drills alone.
In your absence, and after their apparent revelation, the other knights decided that that it was time to address the elephant in the room with Kylo.
"Master Ren, you know Nuren thinks that you hate her, right?" Ushar said, to which Kylo just tried to play it off with a nonchalant shrug.
"I don't hate her." He said, his tone not wavering. He certainly didn't want any of them finding out the truth behind his cold behaviour.
"Trust me, we know that." He replied, in a very pointed tone which made it clear that they had worked out the truth about Kylo's feelings, "but she doesn't know that." He then added.
He clearly wanted to protest, but it was obvious that the knights could see right through him and his nonchalance.
They simply all stared at him, expectantly, until eventually Kylo exhaled a heavy sigh, taking a long drink before speaking again. "Fine, I get the point." He rose to his feet, "I'll go and talk to her." He reluctantly agreed to do what he had been dreading. He had no idea how to process any emotion that wasn't anger.
As soon as he left, the knights began discussing every possible outcome. Little did you know that they had practically planned your wedding, since they had decided that not only would you be good for Kylo, he would be good for you.
Blissfully unaware of everything that had just happened, you were alone in the training room swinging a blunt training weapon against a dummy, who was taking the brunt of your frustration. You had left your helmet by the door.
When the blast doors opened to reveal a sheepish looking Kylo Ren, you were less than happy - and it was written all over your face. Nevertheless, you stood to attention.
"Master Ren." You nodded, "I thought you were with the others." You desperately wanted to replicate his bad attitude and make a cutting remark, but you knew that simply wouldn't help your case. No matter what, you had to show respect to your leader.
"I came to talk to you." He said, his tone coming out much darker than intended.
"With all due respect Sir, if you want me to leave that badly, it's the other knights you need to talk to - they're the reason why I'm still here." You relaxed your stance and went back to swinging at the dummy as you spoke.
"That's not it." He said, walking around to stand behind the dummy so he was in your eye-line, "I'm glad you're still here." He eventually admitted, practically through gritted teeth. Every muscle in his body had stiffened.
You stepped back from your training, brow furrowed, "you are?" You hated the way your heart rate increased at his words. Through it all, you still couldn't deny your own attraction to Kylo Ren, perhaps that was why his cold attitude had been so hurtful to you.
"Yes." He plainly said, having no inclination of what else he could possibly say.
"Then why are you acting so off with me?" You hesitantly asked, at which point he looked down at his feet. This had been the question he was hoping you wouldn't ask, because he was afraid to answer it.
"I-" he began, before sealing his lips again. Whatever words he wanted to say simply wouldn't form in his mouth. He was truly tongue-tied, but thankfully his body decided that it was ready to move again - actions did tend to speak louder than words.
Boldly, he moved towards you and captured your lips in a heated kiss, pouring all the words he couldn't say into this gesture.
You were stunned to say the least, your training weapon falling to the floor. But it wasn't long before your lips responded and returned the kiss. Kylo's arms wrapped around your waist and pulled you flush against him, your hands resting on his chest.
However, it didn't take long for your brain to catch up and you briefly pulled away from his lips for long enough to speak. "So you... like me, like me, and you tried to show me that by being miserable around me?" You asked him, just needing to clarify his odd behaviour.
Suddenly feeling much looser now that he had made a move, he responded with a smirk, "did it work?" He teased.
"Not so much, I think you perhaps need to try being less of an asshole in future Master Ren." You responded with a snarky remark, knowing that you could definitely get away with teasing him now.
"I think from now on, just Kylo is fine." He exhaled a short laugh and leaned back in to kiss you.
It wasn't long before you either had to break away, or have sex right there in the training room and you both silently agreed that the latter wasn't really a practical option.
"Your quarters?"  You prompted, still tangled in his arms.  Really this whole scenario still felt surreal to you.  You had crushed on Kylo Ren for longer than you cared to admit, then when he had found out the truth about your gender he had reacted less than favourably... and now suddenly here you were.  Only he could react to developing feels for you by acting as though he hated you.
His face dropped and he grimaced slightly, "we-uh, we can't."  He sheepishly explained.
"Why not?"  Your brow furrowed, immediately thinking that taking him back to your quarters would be quite an embarrassing affair with all of the other knights being in the common area.
"There are technicians in there repairing Lightsaber damage."  He said it casually, but you could read between the lines well enough to know that 'Lightsaber damage' meant that he'd had a tantrum and trashed his own quarters.
"Are you brave enough to come to my quarters?"  You smirked up at him with an eyebrow raised.
"I think you're overestimating how much they'll care."  He said, and you definitely couldn't fault his optimism, but you knew that the knights most certainly would care.
With the steamy moment beginning to waste away you hastily walked side by side back to the Knights of Ren's common area.  You had your helmet on again as you walked, but as soon as you entered you removed it, and it still felt surreal that you now had that freedom.
"Nuren, is that you?"  Kuruk's voice was the first to call out, none of them turning around from where they sat, still with drinks in hand.
"Yep, it's me."  You quickly said, ushering Kylo into your quarters in the hope that none of them would notice.
"Did you and Master Ren kiss and make up?"  Cardo asked, clearly teasing you, but chose to turn around at simply the perfect moment to catch you in the act.
Halfway through the blast doors to your private quarters you and Kylo froze, and a sheepish grin rose up onto your lips.
"Oh so you literally kissed and made up."  Ushar then said, the smirks appearing on all of their lips foreshadowing some relentless teasing.
"Well... kinda."  You tried to play it off, but before you could make any poor excuses, Kylo simply pulled you through the doors and had his lips on yours as they shut behind you.
As you guided him back towards the bed, you could hear the knights outside loudly wolf-whistling and jeering.
You had only wanted to be able to take your helmet off comfortably around the knights - now you not only had that, you had Kylo Ren too.  In exchange for that you could definitely put up with the teasing from your brothers.

Description: Your incredibly rich best friend, Lee Minho, barges into your apartment asking you to marry him. You say yes, of course, because what could go wrong?
A/N: i actually had a lot of fun writing this! hope everyone is safe amidst all this coronavirus chaos! <3 love y’all, and as always, my ask box is always open if you ever want to be friends!
Tumblr media
“I need you to marry me.”
Your best friend, Lee Minho, has walked into your crappy apartment spewing random shit before, but this was by far the dumbest, most crackhead sentence to ever come out of his mouth. With his Louis Vuitton coat, a thin 100% pure cashmere sweater, the very inconspicuous Gucci belt and his hand-embroidered pants, he looked almost as if he’d fallen into the wrong dimension when he stepped into your living quarters, the walls fading and all the furniture looking one push away from falling apart.
You glanced up at him tiredly, “Don’t questions like these come with a fancy dinner? I’m feeling a little cheated.”
Minho rolled his eyes, plopping himself down across from you at your coffee table without so much as asking. Damn him. After four years of knowing each other, he walked around your apartment like he owned it.
“Is that a ‘yes,’ then?” he asked, reaching for your coffee mug to take a sip.
“It’s a ‘please tell me more ‘cause I’m confused,’” you snatched away your cup suspiciously, “And you’re not getting any of this coffee until you explain yourself.”
Minho rubbed his eyes tiredly, letting out a sigh as he began, “So, I’m getting old.”
You snorted, “Well, we all know that. Jisung’s signing you up for a senior citizen discount already.”
“Don’t be fucking rude, your elder is speaking,” he snapped as he rolled his eyes, “My parents have been trying to pair me up with these potential partners, and I’m just sick of it.”
“So, you think the solution to your problem is to marry me?” you raised an eyebrow, quietly trying to gauge whether your friend was just playing a dumb prank on you, which he was prone to doing.
Minho nodded enthusiastically, “I’ve already thought everything through, and I think it’s a brilliant idea.”
“Your parents were about to flip tables when they found out you were friends with someone like me. Do you honestly think they’ll let you marry me, too?”
“Who says they’ll have any control over it?” Minho scoffed with apparent disdain, “We’ll get all the paperwork done before they even have any idea what’s going on. Besides,” he added with a troublesome gleam in his eyes, “it’s going to be absolutely hilarious to see them lose their shit over this.”
You ran through multiple scenarios in your head, and the image of Minho’s ridiculously conservative parents reacting to their top-of-the-academy, sole-inheritor-of-the-company son marrying a high school dropout that made a living by doing odd jobs was admittedly pretty funny.
“Okay,” you said, leaning towards him like you meant business, “say I actually think this is a pretty fucking wild idea and I’m down for it, what’s in it for me?”
Minho shrugged, “You’d have access to all the funds in my bank account, along with all the inheritance I’d get from my parents.”
“You really think your parents are going to keep you as the sole heir to all that cash they’ve got after the stunt you’re gonna pull?” you asked doubtfully, taking a slow sip of your coffee.
“Doesn’t matter at this point. I already hold more than half the shares of their company, which--” he added with a proud smirk, “will eventually be my company, whether they like it or not.”
You made a noise of delight, “Lee Minho, that is—without a doubt—the sexiest thing you’ve ever said.”
Minho rolled his eyes, “You’re such a gold digger.”
“Say it louder for the people in the back,” you grinned, and not even your best friend could hide the amused smirk on his face.
“So, are you in?”
“You mean, am I going to marry my best friend to piss off his parents and share his money?” you fluttered your eyelashes prettily, placing your coffee mug on the table with a finality as you smiled.
“Shall we sign the papers today?”
.
The real wedding was a quiet, secretive affair, done discreetly under the noses of Minho’s disturbingly watchful parents. You would think that a man who’s earned his degree in business at twenty-two and practically ran the family company by twenty-five would have some freedom, but that wasn’t the case for your best friend--or, should you say, fiancé.
Only a handful of people were in attendance. On Minho’s side, he had his best friends from the Academy, Hwang Hyunjin and Lee Felix, both of whom were incredibly supportive of your whole arrangement. Although they were initially against the idea of Minho getting married at all (they still held on to that high school bachelor mentality), their minds changed the moment they found out the bride-to-be was actually you.
(“Oh, then everything’s fine,” Hyunjin had laughed when Minho explained the situation, “Y/N can keep him under control.”
“She’s already been doing that since the day they met,” Felix snickered, raising a half empty glass of beer at you and Minho as he spoke sarcastically, “To the happy couple!”)
On your side, you had your most trusted sidekick, Han Jisung, who you’ve known for almost the better half of your life. Since both of you had grown up together trying to wade through incredibly trying financial situations, he was more than a little upset when you managed to snag yourself a rich husband before he did.
(“You bitch,” Jisung had spit in mock anger when you showed him your glittering diamond ring, and pointing his mug of beer at an unimpressed Minho, he wailed, “Not only did you have to get a rich husband, you had to get the hottest one, too?”)
The other person present was your lovely roommate, Bae Joohyun, who watched the ceremony with unprecedented glee. She was more than happy to keep the whole apartment to herself, kicking you out especially quickly when she found out you were in for an upgrade, not a downgrade.
(“Where are you moving? Downtown? The mansion suburbs?” she had a smile that could send anyone on their knees groveling at her feet, “Let me know when you ever need a friend over, babe!”
“You just want to see the house, don’t you.”
“Honey,” she eyed you critically, “with the amount of money you’re going to have soon, I might just ask you to buy me the house next to yours!”)
As you stood at the altar, wearing in a short, white dress you had grabbed from a local thrift store, Minho looked fiendishly handsome in his black pants and his expensive jacket, holding both of your hands as the ceremony went on.
The priest sped through his vows, obviously coming to the understanding that this was not your conventional wedding, “Do you, Y/N, take Lee Minho to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
“I do,” you shared a quick, knowing smile with your best friend.
“And do you, Lee Minho, take Y/N to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
“Forever and always,” he swore solemnly. Snickers erupted from the small audience, and you rolled your eyes, tired of Minho’s disgustingly cheesy one liners.
Not even the priest could hide a smile as he stepped back, “You may now kiss the bride.”
Minho raised an eyebrow and tilted his head, a gesture that implied that the ball was in your court. Up to you, he spoke wordlessly, waiting for your reply. You knew that Minho never had any qualms about being overly touching with people he didn’t have feelings with, which meant a lot of one night stands and a lot of suffering on your part when you’d try to find him at parties.
To be totally honest with yourself, you didn’t not want to kiss Minho. As Jisung has said, he was the hottest wealthy bachelor on the market, and as of five seconds ago, he was also now your lawfully wedded husband. And you’d be an idiot if you didn’t reap all the benefits to the fullest.
But at the same time, this was Lee Minho. Your baddest bitch. Your #1 on speed dial. The person you’d call if you were stranded at 3 a.m. The only person you’d trust with your top secret ice cream stash.
Would you ruin things? Would things become better than they already were?
There was no way you could know at the time, so you did what your heart told you to do, and gave Minho a small smile of consent. You saw surprise flash across his face for a split second, as if he’d expected you to refuse, but it was gone before you could even blink.
With a gentleness you never knew he possessed, Minho moved his hand to the back of your neck pulled you towards him, his lips brushing yours in a delicate, chaste kiss. Joohyun squealed like a kid in a candy store, taking a billion pictures on her phone. Jisung let out a scandalous gasp. Hyunjin and Felix fake gagged, slipping of the pews dramatically. When Minho pulled away, he let out an awkward chuckle as he asked.
“Disappointing?”
“Yes, I want to file for a divorce immediately,” you joked, but in all honesty, your lips felt like they burned after that split second of contact, and your heart felt tight as your brain reeled.
You didn’t even know Minho could kiss like that. Not like those passionate, drunken makeouts that you’d always find him engaging in at least twice a week.
But like he wanted it to mean something.
.
As expected, Minho’s parents flipped over heaven and hell when they recieved a beautiful handwritten invitation to your wedding, written by their dearest son. As expected, they pulled every string and every connection they had to stop the wedding, to quietly remove you from the picture. And as expected, Minho and you had already ensured that this would be practically impossible.
The wedding was lavish, extravagant, and everything that you had not expected to be married with. Your husband booked the most beautiful cathedral in the city, hired celebrity chefs for the banquet (“Do you want Gordon Ramsay? I could get Gordon Ramsay.” “Minho, please don’t.”), ordered a custom-made cake by an award-winning baker, and to top it all off, he refused to get you anything less than the most expensive wedding dress that was available.
It felt like the whole city had attended the big ceremony, all the church pews filled to the brim to get a glimpse of who in world managed to tie the knot with the richest, most handsome bachelor in the public eye. Minho’s parents sat in the front, obviously fuming but slapping on saccharine smiles for all the press and cameras that were present. As much as they hated their son’s decisions, any negative rumors could impact the integrity of their company, and if there was anything they cared about more than reputation, it was money.
The ceremony was as dramatic as the two of you could make it, Minho flashing his most dazzling, show-business smile and you doing your best to look absolutely enamored by his charm. When the vows were through and it was time for the big spectacle, Minho wasted no time in sliding a firm arm around your waist, pulling you in for a passionate kiss. The cameras flashed and clicked furiously, and as you responded with just as much intensity, you knew you would be on the front cover of every newspaper for the next week. Maybe even the next month.
As the two of you stood facing the audience, trying to blink out your watery eyes from all the bright flashes and loud noises, Minho’s hand around your waist loosened and turned into something more comforting than passionate. Sparing a glance at you, he broke his character for a moment to whisper worriedly.
“Is this okay?”
You were strangely touched, because you had already agreed to everything that was going to happen from then on, and Minho wasn’t obligated to show his vulnerable, gently side to the rest of the world, even if only for a split second. But he was, just for you.
“I’m okay,” you smiled with confidence, tugging at his tie to give the crowd another spectacle to coo at as you pressed a loving kiss on his cheek. Minho looked a little startled, since you really weren’t a touchy person, but when his smile returned, it looked more relaxed, more genuine than it was before.
Then, his smile grew mischievous, and he pulled you snug to him once again as his lips brushed against your ear, sending shivers down your spine.
“Let’s give them a little more to talk about, then.”
.
“Babe, do you have a honeymoon destination that you’ve always dreamed of going to?” Minho called from the couch, making you stop in your drawing. You were working on a fanart commission from a follower on your Twitter, and you sat criss-crossed at your desk, having scribbled furiously for last couple hours.
“What honeymoon?” you frowned, putting down your digital pen and spinning around to look at your husband.
Minho blinked, “Ours, of course. Do you really think I’d let us get married without going on a honeymoon?”
“Well, I mean,” Shrugging your shoulders helplessly, you floundered over your words, “we’ve convinced the whole world that we’re in love already, right? You don’t have to waste your money on this.”
“I’m not wasting my money,” Minho said, looking vaguely offended, “I have money to spare, and I’m going to spend it on the person I care about. That’s not called wasting.”
Glaring at you pointedly before looking back down at his laptop, he continued, “I always said that I was going to take you on a long-ass vacation one day, because God knows you haven’t had one of those since you were born.”
“Didn’t need to come for my neck like that, but okay,” you muttered, under your breath.
Minho definitely heard you, but decidedly elected to ignore you as he grinned, “Since I’m now your lawfully wedded husband, I’m bonded by our vows to treat you to a honeymoon that you’ll never forget.”
You scoffed, “Where was this treatment when you’d come and eat all my cereal at 3 fucking a.m.?”
“Hey. It’s ‘happy wife, happy life’, not ‘happy best friend, happy life.’”
“Whatever, dork,” Rolling your eyes, you got up from your chair and plopped down on the couch beside him. He threw a casual arm over your shoulders and you leaned towards him to glance at the laptop. This type of touching had become natural ever since the two of you moved in together. You would say it was all just to keep up an act, but both you and Minho knew that wasn’t true.
On the screen, you saw pictures of tropical beaches, private island resorts, anything and everything that screamed luxury was there. After scrolling for a while, they all started to blend together, and you began to realize that you were a little out of your depth.
“Why don’t you just pick, Minho?” you suggested, doing your best to shirk the responsibility.
“You don’t wanna?”
You gestured helplessly, “I mean--I don’t mind---but I’m just,” you swallowed, “This isn’t really my forte. It’s yours.”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t know how to live this life, Minho! I could’ve never afforded any of this until two months ago, and I still don’t know the in and outs, what’s good and what’s bad,” you rambled, catching your husband off guard as he listened to you in silence, “So, I’m sorry if I’m being a little indecisive. I just don't know where to even start.”
Understanding flashed in Minho’s eyes, and to his credit, he didn’t rise up to your sudden frustrations, taking it all in without complaint. You knew he was doing his best, you knew he was trying to give you things that you couldn’t have before, you knew he was trying to make you comfortable. And suddenly, guilt flooded through your veins.
Stammering, you looked down at your legs, “Shit, Minho, that was--”
“Don’t be sorry,” he replied briskly, grabbing your hands to get you to look at him, “You tell me whenever I’m being insensitive, and I’ll do the same for you. Is that fair?”
You stared at him incredulously as you said, “You’re surprisingly mature about this.”
“Well,” he flashed the gold band on his fourth finger, something that you still couldn’t quite believe he was wearing, “we’re together for the long run, so there’s no reason for us not to set some ground rules.”
“Unless, of course,” he added hastily, risking a tentative smile, “you end up divorcing me even before our six month anniversary. I really hope you don’t, if only just to save me some face.”
Punching his chest halfheartedly, you spoke warmly, “Idiot,” you chastised, “I wouldn’t agree to something like this just to walk out on you.” Minho hummed in acknowledgement, and the two of you sat together in a warm, comfortable silence.
“Do you have any requests, at least?” Minho finally asked, uncharacteristically gentle.
You thought for a moment, looking back to find the one crucial thing you’ve lacked throughout your life, something you’ve always wanted but could never have. A long moment passed, and as you pressed closer to Minho, you answered.
“Somewhere where I could just breathe and be away from the real world.”
Minho chuckled, his breath tickling the hairs on your face, “I’ll see what I can do.”
.
As you soon found out, Minho “seeing what he could do” basically meant a two-week vacation on a private resort island owned by one of Minho’s company partners. He lived up to his promise as well, and the travel was more seamless and relaxed than you could’ve imagined it to be.
Following your request to be more secluded from regular life, Minho booked one of the more remote villas on the island, one that stood above the shallow ocean water, jutting out from the beaches. It was connected to the land by a short wooden bridge, and it provided you with all the privacy you needed.
Minho seemed to enjoy the vacation as much as you did, and the laptop he’d brought with him for work purposes was left abandoned in the bedroom safe. The two of you spent time out on the porch watching the tide, on the couch watching movies, or even in the crystal clear water below, splashing each other with the ferocity of two aggressive cats.
In some moments, in some fleeting moments, when the two of you are sprawled over each other, doubling over in laughter, or when he grabbed your waist to lift you out of the water, stopping your flurry of attacks, that you genuinely felt as if the two of you were a married couple. Not a pair of best friends trying to make the best of a situation, but a real married couple.
Of course, as antisocial as the two of you were, you were eventually dragged by your whining husband to leave the comfort of your villa and venture out to the small, tourist town near the center of the resort. Apparently, he had a meeting with the owner of this particular resort to discuss further trade deals, and because Minho was secretly a big baby, he didn’t want to go to the town without you.
You didn’t want anything to do with the meeting; all the politics and passive aggressive forms of speech always put you on edge, so you decided to explore the town while you waited for him to finish. It was an incredibly quaint little set of buildings, mostly boutique shops and small restaurants, and you found that you actually quite liked its atmosphere. Whipping out your phone, you snapped a couple quick pictures of the town’s buildings for some artistic inspiration.
A half hour had gone by, and the island’s tropical heat had begun to get to you. Rubbing your throat absentmindedly, your eyes fell upon a bar at the corner of the road, with a quirky, lopsided sign that read, “Christopher’s Laboratory.”
Smiling at the rather original name, you made your way inside, the door ringing a bell as you walked in. There were only one or two guests sitting at random tables, which didn’t surprise you. After all, who would be at a bar in the middle of a sunny afternoon?
Deciding to sit at the bar, your eyes darted to a man that made his way from the back of the restaurant to behind the bar table, a charming smile framing his face. Being the only new customer and the only one sitting there, he stopped in front of you, leaning over the table slightly.
“Hey! I’m Chris,” he introduced himself, and you couldn’t help but be a little enamored by his strong Australian accent.
“I’m Y/N,” you answered, looking around with a smile, “This is a cute little place.”
Chris’ smile was infectious, “Right? I built a lot of it myself, and I do have to say I’m quite proud of this baby,” Reaching for a towel beside him, he began wiping a glass absentmindedly, no doubt prepping for whatever drink you were about to order.
“Have you been on this island long?” he asked, “I don’t think I’ve seen you around before.”
“Ah, actually,” you blushed rather self consciously, “I’ve been here for a week or so, but we didn’t leave our villa until today.”
“We?” Chris caught the word with a knowing smirk, “Here with a lover?”
Lifting your left hand off the table, you flashed your diamond ring Beyonce style, “Married, actually.”
If Chris was surprised, he barely batted an eye, placing the glass down with a finality, “Congratulations, then. Have you decided on what you want to drink?”
“I’ll have a mint julep,” you answered, merely going to your typical drink. Not too strong or heavy, especially since you weren’t the drink-till-you’re-wasted type. That was more Jisung’s style.
“Coming right up,” your bartender got to work straight away, moving around to get all the necessary components for your order. Although you don’t frequent the bar, you could immediately tell that this man was good at his craft. Chris moved with any ounce of hesitation in his body, as if he knew exactly what to do and how to do it without any mistakes.
Already having warmed up to Chris’ personality, you decided to get to know him a little better, “So, how does one end up permanently living on a resort island?”
The man laughed as he poured a small amount of bourbon into the glass, “Good question. I’m honestly not quite sure myself, but it all started with wanting to get away from home, I guess.”
“And why did you do that?”
Chris shrugged, “Too many expectations. Too many standards. I got sick of it, so I left and just ended up here.”
“You just ended up here?” you repeated doubtfully before pointing out, “This isn’t exactly cheap real estate, just so you know.”
“You don’t have to tell me,” he laughed, “I have a mini aneurysm every time any of the neighbors mention how high their down payment was,” With practiced ease, he slid your drink onto the table front of you, placing a dainty umbrella in it for good measure, “I actually won this property in a stupid bet with a good friend of mine.”
“You moved your entire life because of a bet you made with your friend?” you couldn’t believe it. This was the sort of light-footed, go-with-the-wind lifestyle that you’d always admired, always yearned for.
Chris shrugged, “It was a nice change of scenery, and I found that I liked it more than I had originally assumed, so I stayed.”
Sipping your cocktail, took a long look at the man in front of you. He was undoubtedly handsome, but it was different from the untouchable beauty your husband held. With Chris, there was a sort of ruggedness, a sort of battle-hardened look in his eyes, like he’d done everything in the world and survived.
“Since I told you a little about myself, tell me about you,” Chris grinned, popping a beer for himself as he glanced at you intently, “I assume you just got married?”
“Yup,” you replied, rubbing your wedding ring absentmindedly, “We’re actually on our honeymoon right now.”
“You’re staying at that nearby resort? Dang, you guys must have some serious money.”
“He does,” you clarified, trying not to sound a little bitter, “He’s got the money.”
Chris seemed to understand, becuase his brow furrowed slightly, “But if you guys are married, then it’s technically your money, too.”
“I know, I know,” you said hastily, waving your hands in denial as you looked down in shame, “He’s never showed off his money or made me feel poor or anything like that. It’s just, sometimes I can’t help but feel--”
“Like you don’t belong,” Chris finished softly, his voice gentle, “Like you don’t deserve him even if he chose you.”
Looking up in surprise, you realized that the man had grown rather quiet, his eyes faraway as if thinking back to a sad memory. Something must’ve happened to him, too, something that had to do with money, love, and disappointment. Feeling bad, you put your hand over his, trying to give him some form of comfort.
The restaurant bell chimed, breaking your moment with Chris as you whipped around to see Minho standing at the door with a dark expression. He looked tense, like a cable ready to snap, and you wondered whether the meeting had gone poorly.
“Lee Minho, is that you?” Chris called out, and your head spinned. Chris knew Minho?
The irritated expression on Minho’s face fell for a moment, as he spluttered in equal surprise, “Bang Chan?” He moved forward, as if coming to talk to the man, but then he stopped short, his expression freezing like someone had just slapped him.
Confused, you followed his line of sight, and with a feeling of utter horror pooling in your gut, you realized he was staring at your hand, the one still placed over Chris’ on the table. You know exactly what went through his head, and you couldn’t berate yourself enough for doing what you did. Now, Minho didn’t look just irritated anymore.
He looked furious.
Giving you one last icy glare, one that chilled your heart and almost sent you to tears, he spun around, flinging the door open with hatred as you scrambled to get out of your seat.
“Wait, Minho--”
Without so much as a glance back, he slammed the door shut behind him, leaving you to stand in the middle of the bar in utter shock. The thoughts in your brain were a jumbled disaster, but one thought stood out above the rest.
You had to fix this.
Turning around to look at Chris--or Bang Chan--you began to speak quickly, “Chris, I’m sorry, but--”
“Yes, yes, go,” he replied just as urgently, looking at you intensely, “Don’t worry. You didn’t do anything wrong. If I know anything about Minho, he’s just a little jealous.”
You nodded, grateful for his understanding. As your hand fell on the doorknob, you couldn’t help but look back and ask one more question
“How do you guys even know each other?”
An amused smile crept at the corner of the man’s lips as he answered, “You haven’t guessed yet? I won this property from Minho, all those years ago. We went to the same academy when we were young.”
The idea that Minho actually gave away expensive property on a whim felt like the most Minho thing to do, and you couldn’t help but chuckle despite the anxiety still racking your brain. With one final look, you ran out of the bar, setting off after your husband.
.
By the time you had returned to your villa, sweaty and exhausted from running around the town trying to find Minho, it was already sundown, the sky a beautiful plethora of reds, blues, and purples. Despite your best efforts, you couldn’t find Minho anywhere, but you had a feeling that Minho would be in the room.
The villa was dark, much of the rooms pitch black as you searched for your husband. Then, as you made it to the master bedroom, your heart sank as you caught sight of a lumpy figure curled up in the white sheets, head turned away from you.
You knew Minho wasn’t asleep. A classic businessman, you often stayed up with him into the waning hours of the morning, and you knew Minho couldn’t physically fall asleep anytime before 1 a.m. Still, he didn’t move a muscle when you walked into the room, even though you were sure he heard you.
The bedsheets crinkled as you sat on the bed beside him, silently mulling over what to say, how you could fix this situation. As gently as you could, you brushed your hand over his shoulder as you murmured, “Minho.”
No response came for a long torturous moment, and then a voice croaked, hoarse and tired, “You finally came back.”
“Of course I came back,” you frowned, “I was looking for you.”
“Oh, really?” The poison in Minho’s tone grated against your ears, “You sure you weren’t hanging out with your lover?”
You grew annoyed, retorting snappishly, “Okay, you need to grow up. I know you saw me holding hands with Chris, and I’m sorry about that, but--”
“So, it’s Chris to you now?” Minho spat bitterly, suddenly sitting up to glare at you, “If I didn’t find you at the bar, were you ever going to tell me anything after? Or were you just going to keep this going for my money as you run off with him?”
“Minho, I don’t know what’s going on with you, but I don’t and won’t ever have any intentions of having lovers,” you said, utterly appalled by the idea, “We’re married, aren’t we?”
“Are we?” he muttered, looking down at the bed and away from your face, “You don’t need to pretend. This isn’t even a real marriage.”
It felt like a slap in the face. Flinching, you forced the unsteadiness out of your voice as you asked, “Then, why do you still wear that ring?”
Minho looked up, surprise flashing across his face as you continued, “We’ve been staying in this villa for a week now. Nobody’s here but us, and you still wear that ring every day. Why?”
“I-”
“No. Don’t you dare say you’re pretending, because you’re not,” you seethed, all your frustrations pouring out like a waterfall, “You wouldn’t invest in my art, you wouldn’t take me to fancy restaurants or buy me pretty things on a whim, you wouldn’t have been jealous if you didn’t care, so why are you so determined to act like this marriage doesn’t mean anything to you?”
“It does!” Minho finally said loudly, and then looking ashamed that he’d raised his voice.
“Of course it means something to me,” he murmured, “But I know it doesn’t mean as much to you, and I can’t bear the thought of knowing that we’re in this for different reasons.”
“What are you talking about?”
“You’re in this for the money, we both knew it from the start,” Minho said, looking at you tiredly, “And I have nothing against you for it. That’s how I convinced you in the first place, and it’s a perfectly reasonable reason to marry me.”
“But,” he continued, “at the same time, I’ve always known this can’t be permanent. You’ll find someone you actually love, someone you’d actually want to marry because of them and not their money, and when that happens, I don’t want to tie you down.”
Minho laughed without humor, “I’m sorry about earlier. I really did get jealous, even though I’m in no position to. I just saw you with Chan, and you two looked so perfect together, and I just knew that I was going to lose you. I knew it would happen eventually, but I’d always hoped it wouldn’t be so soon.”
“How could you say something like that?” you stammered, tears pricking at the corner of your eyes, “How could you think that I just married you for the money?”
Minho blinked, “But, we’d said--”
“Fuck that,” you said furiously, causing Minho’s jaw to grow slack, “You know, for someone with two degrees from Harvard, you can be so naive.”
“Alright, there’s no need to be snippy--”
“It wasn’t just about the money,” you interupted loudly, shutting Minho up, “Yes, I was dirt poor and yes, your money was part of it, but I’d never agree to marry someone who I didn’t like as a person.”
Minho looked frustrated, running a hand through his soft, brown hair as he said, “I know you like me, Y/N. I mean, we’re best friends for fucks sake, but you’re going to find someone else, someone you care about more--”
“I care about you more than anyone else in the world,” you spoke firmly, without an ounce of doubt, “And that’s never going to change.”
For once in his life, Minho was at a loss for words. He stared at you with a mixture of awe and surprise, and then, without a moment of hesitation, he crashed his lips into yours, desperately and lovingly.
You responded, tilting your head to a more comfortable position as you crawled towards him. Minho understood your intentions immediately, and his hands pulled you onto his lap until you were practically straddling him, your body close to his.
Neither of you could stop, his hands now roaming around your back and yours nestled in his hair. He coaxed your mouth open gently, pulling back to nibble at your bottom lip, and when you gave him access, he kissed you twice as furiously, with so much passion that one would’ve thought that this was his last day on Earth.
As his lips slowly trailed to your neck, drawing out your light gasps, you found that you wanted more. There was an unsatiable hunger that Minho had pulled out of you, and you found your hands roaming up and down his chest, now frantically trying to unbutton his loose black shirt.
It was at this moment that Minho pulled back, his lips stopping their trail of kisses down your neck as he panted, “Y/N, wait.”
You froze, immediately stopping in your task as you looked up at him, “What’s wrong?” your heart was still pounding in your ribcage, but now you were scared, slowly trying to distance yourself from Minho as you asked, “Do you want to stop? If you want, I could forget this ever--”
“Fuck, don’t you dare,” Minho said with an undercurrent of a growl as he kept you on his lap, his hands tightening as they gripped the back of your shirt, “I’ve wanted this for far too long to stop or forget.”
“Then, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong,” he explained, now stroking your back gently to ease your visible anxiety, “I just want to make sure you know what you’re doing.”
“Well, I was trying to take your shirt off,” you retorted, your face still hot and your lips swollen, “but I was rudely interrupted.”
Minho giggled, nuzzling his head into your shoulder, “Idiot, you know what I mean,” he lifted his head up to look at you again, and behind the clear desire in his eyes you could see the worry, “Please don’t do this and tell me next morning that it didn’t mean anything to you.”
You sighed. Your hands gently cupping his face, you placed a light, feathery kiss on his nose as you answered.
“Never.”

📜💌🧸🚞💗
Love of my life,
I write to you from thousands of miles away from you, lighting me with a candle while my teeth chatter from the cold. There are sounds of airplanes passing over me, or the groans of injured people, or sad people, or people doing the same thing as me: writing to their loved ones.
You don't know how much I miss you, lovey. Are you tired? You should, because all you do is haunt my mind day and night, although, I’m not complaining, I try to cling as hard as I can to the memory of your touch, of your silhouette. I try, I really try to stretch as much as I can, and if I do it with effort, my fingers touch your skin ever so gently, until you vanish.
I love that you visit me at night, in my dreams, where tranquility and green grass reign here; no land and gunshots along with suffering.
Yesterday I dreamed that we both had a day in the field, one with lots of sunflowers and now it’s the only thing I can think of. You would be in that baby pink plaid dress that I fancy so much, and your cherry lipstick that makes my heart skip a beat, making my mouth cry at the sight of yours. In your hand you would carry the tablecloth where we would lie down and I would carry the brown basket where we keep the food we would eat; cheeses, many kinds of cheese, and fruits, watermelons, strawberries, bananas, melons cut into small cubes... The sky would be in its most beautiful blue tone, combining with your beauty and the clouds would be placed in respective shapes where we would spend minutes (or hours) arguing about what they are. The breeze would be warm, and it would fly along with your hair, and even though I am enjoying how mesmerizing you look, you would be pouting because it’s messing up your hairstyle, I would laugh, and you would run your hands through mine to leave me disordered too.
If you knew that everything in my life is turned upside down since you entered my world, and I don’t plan to order it any time soon. I like this mess. I enjoy this mess. I love this mess.
I love you.
We would be lying on the hill. Me on your stomach giving her kisses and snorting at her in the sides because I know it tickles you, and you might be worried since I had to raise your dress to kiss you so you think someone will see your panties, but we are alone, and in the end, you would end up relaxing because that usually happens when you laugh. Then we would sleep since we both get sleepy after eating. I would say that I would be the big spoon, but we both know well that you always end up being that one, and I must admit that now what I need the most is your arms around my torso.
I already want the day to come when I’m traveling on the train back to our house; and back to my home, you.
I am totally, completely and madly in love with you. I have framed in the brightest light of my brain the day I saw you for the first time; when you were buying a bottle of milk and the coins weren't enough for you, and me, wanting to impress you because it really was love at first sight, I paid you for the milk. Who would’ve thought that I would have to work for your family later on.
A forbidden love. As a child, I always imagined having a love so real and strong and powerful and extremely giant that it shouldn’t happen. The adrenaline of not being caught, of the stolen kisses, of the looks with smiles threatening on our lips. And I got it, I lived it and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Also the day you were walking down the church aisle with flowers in your hands and a white dress. It amazes me that the clothes were supposed to bring elegance to you, but instead, you brought them the elegance. I don't know if you noticed, but tears were shed on my part (and yours, yes, I did see you, HA).
I also remember the tears you shed when I was enlisted to come here, in the war, or when I had to almost throw my torso out of the small window to say goodbye to you as long as I could while the train started moving and increased its speed.
You're beautiful. You are smart, you are warm, you are happiness, you are passion, you are desire, you are all the colors of the rainbow, you are love. You, my pretty, pretty, pretty girl, you are love. You are the good thing in this world, you are the peace of torment. Every inch of your being has unmatched perfection. And stop, I know you're thinking "no one is perfect." Bullshit. You are perfect, you are for me, as I am for you.
We’re meant to be, don’t believe in anything else but that.
You are perfect when you smile, how your eyes narrow, and very small lines of happiness are formed on the sides of your magnificent eyes. Your skin is perfect, always so tender, transmitting so much love to me. The way you dance is perfect, like when we did it that time in the rain and some musicians were playing in the street under a roof. The way you kiss me is perfect; your lips are a piece of the puzzle that fits perfectly with mine. The way you touch me is perfect, how your fingertips turn into flames and burn every bit of my body. The way in which the instrument of your body creates the most beautiful melodies each time we collide in a knot of passion; your moans, your faces, your sighs, your legs after, everything is fucking perfect. So yes, you are the definition of perfection, for me and for everyone.
I wish I could hug you, kiss you, love you, take care of you, adore you, talk to you, listen to you. I want to, and I do, in my mind, and although there are battles and hatred outside, in my own world there is peace along with harmony and a lot of love.
I miss the shape of your lips, I miss every part of you and I hope you miss every part of me too. I miss you like the sky misses the stars in a storm. I miss you how the branches of the trees miss the shelter of their leaves in the winter. I miss you like a heart in love misses its loved one. I miss you.
I love you. I love you like I never loved someone before. I may never find words precious enough to describe the way I love you, but I will spend my entire life searching for them.
I love you as if I were a soul that has lived hundreds of past lives, in all those searching for you, thus fulfilling the promise that I am yours forever. Because I am, my mind, body, soul and heart belong to you, they are yours and will always be yours.
I am surrounded by death, and do you know what they say about it? They say that death is the worst sentence people can give you, I disagree. Living, that is the worst punishment. Living without you, continuing to breathe the oxygen that the world provides us without you is utter torture, because I want to do it with you. Always with you. Always for you.
I love you, I really do. I'll be back soon, I'll be back home. Wait for me, sweet girl.
I love you with every beat of my heart.
Your loverboy,
Harry.
A single teardrop slid down your cheek and fell right next to Harry's insignia. You quickly folded the paper and left it on the table, not wanting your tears of love and nostalgia to ruin the words of your precious boy.
The tip of your nose was red from crying so much, it has been almost thirteen months since Harry left on that train to war and there is not a miserable day that you don't miss his company.
Suddenly, a knock on the door is heard and your heart instantly begins to jump with excitement. Will it be him? You start to think, is it really him? Is he back home?
Releasing a long sigh and running your hands over your dress to smooth out the wrinkles that formed when you sat at the window to read the letter, which had been sent a month and a few weeks ago, but had just arrived yesterday (and you opened it today, the night before you didn’t have enough strength to do it) you stood up and walked to the door, your right hand was shaking and you were startled when you came into contact with the cold doorknob.
You breathed out, closing your eyes, and at the count of three, you opened the door.
Behind it there was a soldier, but not the soldier you wanted to see. Not your soldier. And as soon as your eyes caught the sadness of his and his cap not on top of his head but on his hands which were crossed in front of him; you suddenly knew.
And your heart and body and soul and your whole being bled from the stab you just received, a stab that never came because the mere presence of the soldier told you everything.
Your loverboy is gone.

Unexpectedly good| h.h.
summary: Getting out of your comfort zone isn’t as bad as it seems, getting to know strangers can be fun. Espesially cute ones.
words count: 3.2+
pairing: harry holland x writer!reader
warnings: none
a/n: this is my first time writing about Harry, but I thought why not?
Tumblr media
True love exists they say. You're seeing it all around you as you taking a walk around your neighborhood, you’re reading it through written words late at night sitting on your bedroom floor, you’re hearing through melodies while driving around the city.
But does it last forever?
You also notice people getting their hearts broken, couples married for decades separating their ways, fighting for things they thought they never would. You’re listening to your friends crying, or artists expressing this pain through paintings, poems, even movies with actors playing their roles really well, drifting everyone with their emotions. Promises, vows are getting broken.
And you can help those questions that are always running to your mind: if it doesn’t last forever, then why the hell do we bother with it? Why do we even dragging ourselves into these situations when we could easily just be alone and happy after all? If love means suffer, why do others are still falling in love?
It would never make sense. Are they dumb?
Maybe.
We’ve been taught from early years some rules.
Number one: always be kind to others around you.
Number two: listen to your parents.
Number three: find someone to love.
And is not that they told us to do with words, but somehow they showed us with their actions. Your dad would kiss your mother goodbye before work, or give her presents. Your mum would prepare a fancy dinner for him, usually to thank him for everything he’s done for their family. They would go on dates, spoil each other, “I love you"'s would be heard every now and then. Or after an argument they’ll fall asleep and the next day they’ll get up with smiles on their faces and a forgiving speech already made up.
“My parents are divorced.”
Are they single? No, at least one of then has moved on and met somebody to love.
And that is my point. They got their hearts broken once, why do they risk it for the second time?
“Hey are you okay?” the blonde girl asked next to you, clearly worried.
“Umm yeah? Why are you asking?”
“You have these weird expressions while you’re writing and you scared the shit out of us. Also I’m really curious to know what caused you this” your male friend sipped his iced coffee. You laughed at him closing your notebook leaving your pen inside it and copying his movements. The cold liquid felt hydrating.
“I don’t think you will any time soon baby" you placed your cup at the table. “And to be honest with you, nobody will"
“The disrespect! Girl, we’ve been here for the past two hours and this is the first time you're talking" her voice sounded serious at first, turning to more playful after. They both knew that you were an artistic soul, always with a pen in your hand ready to imprint your thoughts at a paper. Writing meant everything to your existence, the only getaway from the world.
“You need to be more confident with your writing y/n. You are talented and you keep wasting your talent away. Imagine how you can change the world with all your inspirational things you write for us, all of your creative stories that I have no idea how your mind is capable to think of them. And I'm not saying this because I'm your friend, this is my honest opinion”
“And some may say that you are just a hopeless romantic. But I am in awe with you and how you describe feelings that are so difficult to talk about.”
You smiled bright at your friends. “What did I do to deserve friends like you guys?”
“You were just lucky that we felt sorry for you that day at the library” he took your hands into his and turned to the girl next to you, that had wrapped her arms around your torso and had placed her head to your shoulder. “Do you remember how lonely she looked?”
“Ouch"you said moving your hand towards your heart playing it hurt. “Oh my Gosh, was I like this?”you asked biting your lip. It was your first year at a new busy town, with people that looked way cooler that you were, a lifestyle out of your comfort zone. Denying that you didn’t seemed lost would be a lie.
They both nobbed their heads laughing and you covered your face thinking how much you have changed the past few years and even though you still wokred with yourself, you had made progress there.
«I think we should go guys, it's getting late and I have work to do» the man of the group announced, Gigi next to you complaining that he just ruined her night for the dumbest reason «in history»
«Who goes home to do work? Have you lost your mind? Let's go get a drink» she turned to you «Is he crazy?»
«I mean he may have a reason»
«Are you siding with him now? Do you have a boyfriend and you just don't want us to know?»she leaned to his side wanting to learn more curious. Your friend was the person that wanted to know everything about the others, not because of the gossip, she wasn't like that. The reason behind it was that Gigi felt the need to protect her family and close friends from bad situations. And to do that, she pressured others just so they can help her create a picture about them, a guide for her that she might need in the future.
Noel on the other hand seemed more like incurious about his friend's private life. Not that he didn't care, but he would wait for the other with no pressure. He was there for who might needed his help, whenever they felt ready to open up. Lies was the only thing that he couldn't forgive. From anyone.
«I'm gonna kill this bitch I swear» he got up following you that you were already behind them giggling with them.
«You are so annoying Noel» Gigi grabbed you by the arms and made her way to the exit of the cute café you spent your afternoon at. You glanced back at him with curved lips but eyes drowning with tears of laughter, while he was getting up from his chair, laughing with his sweet laugh of his and looking around for things that you might have forgot.
«Oh I'm sorry» you heard your friend apologizing at the same time you crashed with her back. You turned your head at her ready to reassure her, before your eyes met a pair of brown ones.
«It's my fault I wasn't paying any attention» a blonde boy next to him apologized shyly.«Ladies first» they both stepped back making room for the both of you to make your way out. You took a look at the boy that caught your attention at first smiling shyly back at him when you noticed him doing the same. You held onto your friend tightly as you walked away, giggling with her quietly.
«Gigi what was that?» you asked after a while, being sure that none of them would here you.
«I have no idea» she said before slowing her step finally staying still in front of you. «But they looked cute» her eyes made their way behind your back.
«Yes he did» you mumbled taking a look at your shoes. At the very time you realized what words your mouth left out loud you corrected yourself quickly «They were cute yeah..um..where-where is Noel?» you shallowed the inside of your cheeks staring back at her.
«Behind you» she replied with a smirk. «Hey baby y/n forgot her pen there, would you wait for us? Just for a minute?»
«What? No-»
«No she didn't, I checked everywhere. Y/n just search again at your bag»You rolled your eyes and opened your bag, diving your hand into the mess inside just for you to reveal the pen that was missing apparently.
«I can't with you guys sometimes» her walking far from the two of you had you chuckle at your friend, yet thinking that something would have come out of this. But it was just a stranger, a handsome one, that you would never see again. The chances of meeting this man were minimal so you tried to not distract your mind with possible scenarios.
You were curious though. What would have happened if you went back there? Maybe he wouldn't be there, not all people like to enjoy their drinks inside a room with others. Maybe he would have been sitting at a table with the blonde guy talking about his day or problems hat he might have. How will his voice sound like? Or he would be the one listening to his friend.
Or they would be waiting for their girlfriends to come.
It sounded more realistic at that time.
«What happened now?». You grabbbed his arm slowly walking behind the blonde annoyed girl friend of yours. The irritated sound of his voice was showing, tired of her attitude she had the past xouple of minutes.
“She is just a little mad at us, you know she had other plans for tonight. What can I say? We are bad friends I guess" you joked making the boy next to you roll his eyes smiling.
_
Few days later you found yourself into your little appartment, working at a new assignment that had to be ready in a couple of hours. Your fingers tapping the keyboard faster that lightning, the words showing in front of you in seconds, your mind working nonstop, new ideas popping every now and then out of nowhere.
Three hours later and ten pages were ready to be sent back at your boss. Ten pages fillled with things that only God knew how much you loved them.
The power of art. How art can change someone completely, how people can be reborn, how the prospective of life can turn, how individuals could change into creatures ready to rule the world with their creativity, their visions of a better future.
Your phone rang unexpectedly, the sound of the familiar ringtone disctracting you from checking possible mistakes on your writing. You picked it in your hand, the photo of your blondie friend lit up the screen.
“Hello” you answered happy to hear her after days.
“Hi y/n, what are you-” a loud car horn stopped her from finishing her sentence, voices from far away screaming, a chaos starting to build up. “Watch where you’ re going phycho” you bit your lip curious as her aggressive tone sounded from the other side of the phone.
“Are you okay? Gigi?”
“Why do all idiots get driving license?”
“I don't know babe, let's just pretend that they didn't pay others"
“That's true" she paused for a while and then continued “Yeah anyway, what are you doing?”
“I just finished my article. Do you wanna come over?” you suggested.
“I was thinking if you're interested in meeting at that café we went with Noel” it was only ten minutes away from where you lived, so it worked perfect for you.
“That sounds like a plan”
“Great! I'm gonna be there in twenty minutes so take your time"
“Okay I'll see you soon" you hanged up the call and moved to your closet. The weather was cloudy and windy, unlike the day before. People were walking down the streets holding on to their jackets really tight, so you assumed that it was getting really cold out there, a feeling of sadness covering you from the inside as summer was coming to an end sooner that you'd thought.
_
Ten minutes after you were outside finally, hugging your body as tight as possible, holding your own jacket, try to protect your self from the cold. Your rapid steps got you to your destination earlier that usual. You opened the door, the warm air hitting your face, the smell of coffee and donuts filling your lungs. You scanned the space around you, an empty table catching your eyesight a few meters away from where you stood. You sat there ans waited patiently for your friend to come and join you. The attention of yours caught the food that was getting ready to be served to customers, looking like the most attractive thing in the universe. I'm getting one of these for sure.
“Sorry for being late. Guess who I bumped into” Gigi interrupted your thoughts as she sat at the chair across you.
“Bratt Pitt?”
“I would have died. Try again I'll give you one more chance”
“Is it a celebrity?” you leaned to her half smiling.
“Nope" she shaked her head and crossed her hands down to her chest, leaning back.
“Then why would I know? Was it your ex?”
“Who sees their ex and smiles like that? Wake up"
“I give up"
“Do you remember the two cute boys we saw here?” she placed her arms at the table. “Yes don't look at me like that. They will be here in a few"
“You invited two strangers? What if their intentions are bad? Have you lost your mind?” you started panicking, yet making sure that you won't drag all the attention to you from the others.
“That would have been fun for your miserable life but no they're not bad. They seemed really nice actually and that's why I told them that we will be here so shut your mouth. And you even said that you liked that brunette boy, you should thank me”
“I never said anything like that Gigi. And I don’t care if they are the nicest people we've ever met, they're still strangers-“
“Not anymore" she lifted her arm and then stood up with a bright smile on her lips. “Um hey guys" she greeted them and then pointed towards you. “This is y/n I told you about" you got up and turned around so you can meet them yourself.
“Harrison" the blonde guy said to you and you smiled back at him.
“Y/n" you shacked his hand politely. He did not seem bad at all and even though you felt sorry for him, it was still irresponsible from her to act like this. You made room for him to pass you and came face to face with the brunette boy.
«I'm Harry» so that's how his voice sounded like.
«I'm y/n. Nice to meet you» he shacked your hand and you couldn't ignore the feelings you got, the warmth, the electricity you felt, the sensation just from the palm of his hand. You sat back down, across your bestfriend and next to Tom.
At first you felt really awkward, compared to Gigi that looked so confident and never stopped talking, moslty about her life, how she ended up in this town, what she's studying, her hobbies. She was a person that had the ability of opening up to strangers real quick, very friendly. She made you feel like home, like she was the big sister everyone wanted. That's how she won a place into your heart, you have always needed a friend like her, and she was at the right place the right time.
«So y/n what do you do in your free time?» Harrison asked.
«Oh..um I write I guess?»
«You have to see what she wrote last week. I admire her talent and I'm sure she will get far one day»
«It's not that big of a deal» you grabbed the cup in front you. «I just love writing about life and things in general»
«I would love to read something of yours» you heard Harry speaking and you turned to watch him. His curls seemed perfect covering a little of his forehead, his cheeks a light red, probably from the heat, his eyes staring back at you.
«You think so?» he caught you by surprise, as mostly the people that learnt about your obsession with writing never actually asked you to read anything from your writings, and maybe there was a chance that this was the reason behind you doubting all of your work. It was a battle that you didn't ask for.
«Yes» his lips turned into a smile, your did to as you couldn't help it. And you met him only half and hour before.
Their stories were interesting. Harrison had a passion for acting and was actually preparing for a really big project that he couldn't share much information for. But your curiosity was loud, you wanted to learn about this job, or how he was able to handle his emotions.
Harry was into photography, a fact that surprised you in a good way, and as you heard him talk about it more as the time went by, both of you gained more confidence and comfort around each other, absorbing plenty of informations.
At this point you thanked your friend for inviting them, and noted to do that in person after. They were truly the nicest people and seemed like two boys that you would totally hang with them anytime.
“This is amazing. I would love to see them one day” you stated. He moved closer to you, his one arm came behind your chair and rested there.
“I'm free for you anytime, as long as I'm gonna read anything, a poem or a story, only of yours”
“You really want to read them? They are not that good” you pointed at Gigi "Don't listen to her"
“You're really cute” he pulled your hair behind your ear “And yes I want to read one of your writings, I know that they will be good, I can already tell how artistic you are and I like that” he really said that? Was this true?
“Hey mate we have to go. Tom is waiting for us" Harrison pushed Harry's arm destroying your little moment, thankfully cause you actually didn't have any answer for his statement. Just questions that he wasn't going to answer.
“Already? He can't wait for a little more?” Harry got up after Harrison as he wore his jacket.”I'm so sorry girls. We'll make up for this I promise you. And I'm gonna bring my work with me just for you" he whispered his last sentence to you, while the other two of the group were talking on their own.
“It's okay don't worry. I'm sure he has a reason for whatever happened"
“No my brother is just a asshole and not responsible but don't let me get started" you laughed for a moment and watched straight at you, Harrison and Gigi hugging each other. They seemed like they got so closed within an hour only. It was unbelievable how she knew exactly what to say to win everyone's heart and mind. “I'm just hoping that I'll be able to see you again"
“Um I hope to as well" you smiled at him goodbye and waved at the two boys, that were walking now outside the café.
“You're lucky that I have Harrison’s number”
“What?”you turned your attention back to her. She was in a really happy mood and it showed not only from her expressions but from her body language as well.
“You dumbass how are you gonna see him again if you can't find him huh?”
She was right.
“I'm sorry for earlier. I was wrong" you apologized, feeling sorry for staying mad at her when all she wanted to do was to get you out of your comfort zone.
“You're still thinking about it? Just tell, how was he? He was cute right?”
_
After 2 hours of gossip and analyses you were finally back at your safe place, wrapped around with your favorite blanket and your favorite movie on. Everything seemed okay when a message from an unknown number called you back into reality.
‘Hey this is Harry! I forgot to ask your number but I was lucky enough to find it. Goodnight<3'

he is so cute what the hell?????

The Irreplaceable Charlie Weasley: Pt. 5, Ch. 2
PART 5: THE YEAR WHEN EVERYONE FIGHTS Chapter 2 - A Very Quidditch Crush
Penny
Who am I? What's my name?
I am so busy this year that I don't even have time to think about myself. Braiding my hair every morning? No time. Keeping my sister from getting lost around the Castle? No time. Spending time with my friends in any other way that doesn't revolve around studying? No time!
I even thought I wasn't nagging the group about O.W.L.s as much. They quickly proved me wrong when they started to complain about how much I talked about them. I decided to give them a little break as most of them were doing rather well so I went from every day to missing a couple of days per week, not mentioning the O.W.L.s and their importance.
I did, however, take as much time as I could to brew and experiment with potions. I wanted to learn new recipes and it was a good opportunity to talk to Snape about O.W.L.s even though, not much to my surprise, he wasn't as keen about it as I was. I still had access to his ingredients room and he even lent me one of his books about Potions which made me jump as I knew just how rare it was!
I knew I couldn't keep it forever, so I tried memorizing and trying as many potions from it as I possibly could and I wrote to my mum about it every chance I got. To be perfectly honest, she was the only one who shared my excitement about this.
I also took the time to attend as many of Ravenclaw's Quidditch practices as I possibly could. I half pretended to study, sitting on the lower stands and half eyeing Andre. He was so cute and the best Keeper ever, of course!
It seemed that Orion wanted to win the Quidditch Cup this year as they had practice almost every day. I, of course, didn't mind and neither did Nova for some reason. I noticed that after every match she didn't fly from the Pitch but joined the Quidditch commentator, who as I could recall, wasn't as funny compared to how much Nova giggled when he was talking.
After the fifth Friendly, I was pretty sure that Nova's secret crush from last year was finally revealed and I decided to casually ask her about it. I asked her to help me study for Transfiguration O.W.L. in the Library, as I knew she wouldn't be able to refuse, and since I told her all about my crush on Andre last year in the Library it made sense that I would ask her about Murphy there as well.
I chuckled when I saw how prepared she was! She brought 3 books and so many notes for which I didn't even know she was capable of having. I decided to be very cool about the whole thing, I didn't want her to run away after all. So we studied Transfiguration for about an hour, when I closed her book, crossed my arms on the table, and leaned my head on them.
“So...” I started.
“What is that look in your eyes, Penny?” She was suspicious already.
“About your crush.” I grinned and she rolled her eyes.
“You only invited me here to talk about who I fancy, didn't you?” She frowned as she knew what was coming.
“I was just wondering if I can make the same guess list Tulip did last year?” I blinked at her to appear as cute as possible.
“Alright.” She wasn't amused.
“Murphy McNully.” I said casually. She gasped and her cheeks turned tomato red.
“I knew it!” I pointed my finger at her.
“Shh!” I could hear Madam Pince behind us. I turned around and she was glaring at me.
“I knew it!” I repeated when she finally decided to walk to the other side of the Library, this time whispering.
“How do you know?” Nova was stunned.
“I might attend your Quidditch matches to daydream about Andre but I am not blind.” I winked at her.
“How obvious is it?” She sighed.
“Well,” I rubbed my chin, thinking about it. “If you didn't find him so funny talking about Quidditch, since I can't phantom what's there to laugh about, I wouldn't notice at all.” I was sarcastic as that wasn't the only reason I knew. She was also eyeing him during the matches and she flew right past him as much as possible.
“But he is funny.” Nova defended him.
“Nova, there is a 14,5% chance that only you laugh so much when he speaks.” I giggled and she rolled her eyes when I took Murphy's statistics to prove my point.
“Alright, you got me! But promise you won't tell anyone!” She made me swear.
“My lips are sealed.” I dragged an imaginary zipper across my mouth. “But only if you tell me how it happened?”
“Well,” she leaned closer to me to make sure Madam Pince wasn't going to throw us out, “remember how when you asked me about it last year, I was completely clueless who I had a crush on?” I nodded. How could I forget? I was positive it was Charlie and that she just couldn't see past their friendship.
“Well, after one practice I was taking extra time to get dressed because I wanted to be as late for History of Magic as I possibly could.”
“I knew you were being late on purpose!” I gasped.
“And I stayed alone in the tent and Murphy came inside and we talked and I realized that I liked him.” She blushed. That was pretty rare for her. Oh, she was so cute!
“What made you realize?” I was curious.
“He was talking about this Quidditch strategy that he was confident would improve my skills and I zoned out and suddenly realized just how blue his eyes are and what a cute smile he has.” Her face was as red as Tulip's hair at this point.
“Does he know?” I beamed.
“Does Andre know you like him?” Clever girl, throwing that in my face.
“Are you planning on telling him?” I asked, ignoring her.
“Are you planning on telling Andre?” I frowned at her. We were not talking about me and Andre right now.
“For a matter of fact, I am!” I scoffed at her. “We are going to Hogsmeade next week and I will tell him that I fancy him!”
“Wow, very brave of you Penny.” She winked at me.
“Thank you!” I lifted my chin up proudly and as I started to think about what to wear when I tell Andre I remembered that this wasn't about my crush but hers.
“Stop distracting me!” She giggled. “How serious is this crush of yours?” The answer to this question interested me not just because if they started dating, we could go on double dates but also because I knew Charlie fancied Nova.
“I don't know. I am not so invested in these matters like you are, Penny.” She answered honestly.
“Don't you want to know if he feels the same way?” I asked, confused. Nova gave it some thought.
“Not really. At least not yet. I feel too young for this stuff.” It was probably the first time I struggled to understand her.
“So you will just stare at him and giggle at his not so funny speeches all the time?” I raised my eyebrow.
“I guess.” She giggled. Why she would do that for I had no idea. I know we're only turning 16 this year but if you like somebody, shouldn't you let them know?
“You're weird, Nova Blackwood.” Was all I said.
“Good for you to notice after so many years. Can we go back to studying now?” She opened her book again.
Even though she didn't want to act on it right now, I knew she fancied Murphy very much and I knew that sooner or later she will want some advice on how to best approach him.
I was so happy for her, I could see her dating Murphy and I think they would look really cute together. But I couldn't help but feel sorry for Charlie who admitted to me last year that he has a crush on his best friend. Nova liked Murphy a lot but I got a feeling that Charlie was deeper than that even though he didn't want to admit it and was waiting for his feelings to go away.
At first, I was hoping that I was wrong and I was observing Charlie as much as possible, without being too obvious, to see if he still fancied her. Not only did he blush every time he saw her and stiffened every time she leaned on him or hugged him. He also became more awkward around her and I was beginning to wonder if all my friends needed glasses as he couldn't be more obvious.
I decided I wouldn't tell him as I reckoned it would break his heart and ruin their friendship and honestly, wasn't my business and he would probably be as stubborn about it like he was when he told me about his crush. He said that he will never act upon it and, unlike with Nova, I actually believed him. I reckon Murphy is a great mate and everything, but I couldn't help to think that Charlie and Nova were a match made by Merlin himself.
“Penny, are you even listening to me?” Nova poked my cheek.
“Huh?” I rose my head, which was leaned on my closed fist.
“Were you daydreaming about Andre?” She shook her head, winking.
“Yes.” I lied. It was the first time I didn't.
“So, how are you planning to tell him about how much you fancy him?” She asked, making a kissy face.
“I was thinking of inviting him to Hogsmeade and taking him to Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop.”
“Take him where?” Nova asked puzzled. I giggled, I knew she wouldn't know where that was.
“It's this cute little tea shop in one of the narrow alleys. It's perfect for dates and a lot of couples go there to snog.” She nodded, knowing immediately why she had never heard about it before.
“You're going to snog him?” Nova raised her eyebrows.
“Well, if he feels the same way after I tell him, why not?” I frowned as she chuckled.“What's the matter with snogging?”
“Oh, nothing. I just think you're adorable!” She pinched my cheeks like my aunt did every time she visited.
“Just go back to reading your book!” I rolled my eyes, trying to focus on reading her notes as it has become apparent she wouldn't give me any more information about her and Murphy.
Weeks were passing by so quickly that I felt unprepared for my O.W.L.s I knew we still had plenty of time to study but I was hoping that the teachers would cut us some slack since we had to study for such an important examination.
It seemed, however, that they had more to teach us this year than ever before and the worst of it was that all of the material was also going to appear on the exams. We were all doing a pretty good job. Charlie studied for his Care of Magical Creatures and Defense Against the Dark Arts the most, while Nova teased him that there were other subjects to study for as well.
I was doing as good as I could on all my subjects. I was even surprised how good Tulip was doing as I was sure she would refuse to study just like Tonks did.
Speaking of Tonks! She was driving me insane. She didn't want to hear about O.W.L.s at all. She rarely came down to the Lake with us or joined us in the Library and every time I tried to explain just how important this examination was she rolled her eyes and tried getting as far away from me as possible. I started to worry about her as studying in the last week and a half won't help her get through this as it did with regular exams.
However, I was determined I won't give up and stop nagging her. Sooner or later she will have to start studying. Something that wasn't an issue with my little sister who was just the biggest angel when it came to doing homework and studying. What puzzled me though was the fact that she didn't enjoy Potions at all!
I asked her about it once and she threw in my face that not everybody wants to become a Potioneer and I didn't have a choice but to accept that.
I also convinced Andre to start studying with me which was more for his benefit than mine as I could barely focus on anything else but his cute face. I helped him with every subject but I knew we would have to ask Nova for help when it comes to Transfiguration.
-
The day to tell Andre finally came and I decided to wear my favorite yellow blouse as it was too cold to wear a dress. We walked to Hogsmeade together and I was relieved when I told him where I was taking him and he didn't seem to mind at all.
It went great as usual. He made me laugh and I just loved how much we had to talk about. We got so lost in our conversation that I didn't get a chance to tell him how I feel. I didn't need to do that, however, as our hands brushed while walking back to the Castle, and Andre, looking away, held my hand and didn't let go until it was time for me to go into my Common Room. It was by far, the best day of my Fifth Year.

I received a wicked cute prompt and I just couldn’t resist working on it.
Prompt:  She saw the look in his eyes. It was that of a goodbye. He was going and believed that he was not coming back. They have been one for so long and yet he never took that last step. But she could see it in his eyes. He was going to do it as a final farewell to her. "I lo-" he started but she leapt at him before he could continue, crashing her lips to his, pouring all her feelings and passion into it. "Tell me after you are back." She replied. She has waited all her life for this so she would let his confession to be his first and last time truly show how he felt. He had to live this. He had to live this so they could finally live the life they dreamed of since the very first time they met. Yes, it is a prompt for AU Hinny if you are interested…
I hope you like it anon who sent the prompt!
Background: Muggle AU. Ginny’s in college and Harry is in the army.
Read on: FF.net or AO3
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
The hordes of bustling people paid them no mind as they stood there. It was like they were frozen in this spot, trying to hold on to everything they had and would every gain. Every breath ticked like a clock, making them horribly aware of their limited time.
Ginny stared at him, trying to memorize every feature. Every laugh line and sun-created freckle. She wanted to remember the shape of his green eyes and how they always seemed to shine brightly around her… for her.
It wasn’t fair. It just wasn’t fair! After finally finding each other, he was being taken away from her. But she could never resent him for this, for leaving for something he truly believed in. Harry was a man of honor and bravery, and it was something Ginny admired about him. Yet, it still hurt knowing that after only getting three months together he was leaving.
They had met in the little cafe off campus where she worked. Waiting tables was just something she did to gain a little money while taking classes at the local university. Harry had walked in, his face flushed from the warm summer sun. Ginny hadn’t been able to take her eyes off him. The sharp jawline that went so well with his nose, how his muscles had flexed while he’d bent down to tie his loosened shoelace, and then there had been his eyes. Even to this day, Ginny still was mesmerized by the shade of them. She’d seen plenty of green eyes before, but none the same shade of green as Harry’s.
Maybe because she had been so distracted by trying to define his eye color was why Ginny had tripped over her own feet and spilled the tea she had been carrying all over the man in question. Thankfully it had been tea of the iced variety (never had she been so thankful for Americans coming to her country), but still it ruined the starch white of his vest.
Harry had been easy going about the whole thing, simply dabbing at the stained cloth while Ginny apologized profusely. She had brought as many towels as she could find to help clean him up. “It’s really not bad.” Harry had smiled at her while she began to fuss over the brown spot that just wouldn’t leave. “It’s still a better style than cheetah print.”
Even with nervousness boiling belly, Ginny hadn’t been able to resist laughing. “Still, I feel horrible. My shift is over in about five minutes so if you wait I can run to the bank and get you some money for dry cleaning or a new —”
“Or...” Harry had cut off her rambling with a smile. “How about when you get off you can pay me in the way of your company. I was actually going to be heading to the launderette nearby and I would love to have someone come and wait with me while I wait for my pants to wash.”
And that had been the beginning of the end for Ginny. The end of her single life, that is. While sitting in the uncomfortable launderette chairs, she and Harry had chatted like old friends. Like people who had known each other their whole lives. They’d talked about everything and anything. From Harry’s current leave from the SAS to Ginny’s family back in Devon. By the time his clothing was in the dryer, Ginny knew everything she needed to know about Harry James Potter to know she was right to fancy him. His eyes were gorgeous and so was the rest of him. He had a quick wit, kind heart, and a sarcastic sense of humor. All of which Ginny adored just as much as his eyes.
She had started to panic slightly when his dryer had stopped. Ginny hadn’t wanted it to end. She’d wanted to stay, chatting with Harry forever. Her mind had begun to buzz with ways to keep their night going, but Harry had simply suggested that they could go get dinner.
The dinner had just been a simple walk-in fish and chips place around the block, but it was exactly what Ginny had wanted. They had walked to one of the green spaces near the campus, taking seats on the grass and enjoyed their dinner and company. Ginny couldn’t remember how late they’d stayed out there, but it was long enough for the sky to darken. That had been the first time Harry had kissed her.
From there, their romance had progressed. Dinners out together, nights snuggling on the sofa while she read her textbooks, staying up late in his bed. And then he’d been told to come back to base. It had been like a record scratching to a stop.
That had been two weeks ago. Two weeks of anxiety and worry. For some reason, the fact that he would be called back to active duty never broke through Ginny’s happy little bubble (the bubble that contained just him and her and all their plans).
Harry’s fingers came to brush a stray strand of hair out of her face, bring Ginny out of her reverie. “Will you be okay?”
Ginny tried to force some levity in her voice. “Of course. It’s not like I actually enjoyed your company, Potter. I just kept you around for the sex.”
Harry snorted “Is that so? And here you just wanted me for my sense of humor and charm.”
“I mean those were side benefits, but really you’re just a good shag.”
A smile curled his lips. “Now, why don’t I —” The cool woman over the loudspeaker made Harry’s cheeky comment falter.
“Last call for flight four hundred and twenty to London.”
To London… then Iran. A hand curled around Ginny’s gut, squeezing tightly. She looked back up at him. There was a look to his eyes, one of fear and determination but also one of… Ginny’s heart started to beat so hard she thought it might crack a rib. He looked like a man who thought he would never get to return. As if he was saying goodbye forever.
She’d asked him if he knew where he was going, of course, he’d told her that was classified. But the closer they’d gotten to his flight the more nervous his energy had become. And based on his nerves and the expression on his face now… Ginny could assume it was more dangerous than she’d feared.
Her throat seemed to swell, making each breath painful. “Harry?”
He merely shook his head and pulled her tightly into his arms. Ginny could feel his body tremble as his pursed lips pressed into her neck.
She loved this man. The fact still surprised Ginny. After only a few months Ginny would do anything for this man. Yet, she hadn’t told him. The words I love you had always felt forced and unnecessary to Ginny. She believed in showing someone how much she cared for them, and with Harry showing him was the easiest thing in the world. Yet, at that moment Ginny couldn’t help but think about saying… about hearing those three words.
Harry pulled away, his forehead coming to rest on hers. “Ginny, I lo —”
And just like that Ginny couldn’t bear to hear those words. Not like this. Not when he thought it would be the last time they ever saw each other. Her fingers knotted into his hair as she pulled his face down and connected their lips.
She swallowed his surprised nose, letting herself get lost in the feel of him (even if his rucksack and uniform hindered how much she could touch). “Save it for when you come home,” Ginny murmured against his mouth when she pulled away.
Harry stared at her, those beautiful green eyes having taken on a dazed looked to them. “Gin?”
Ginny stood on her tiptoes “Come home to me, Harry.” She whispered the words into his ear before stepping away. Taking a second to compose herself, Ginny straightened his tie. “Tell me when you come back. It will hold until then”
She could see his Adam’s Apple bob as he swallowed, then he nodded. “I’m going to hold you to that.”
Ginny smiled warmly at him. “Good.”
 XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Ginny tapped her pen on the side of her desk. The library closed in twenty minutes and she still had at least another hour of work on this paper. Why she’d chosen sports medicine as her major was a mystery to her at this moment. She could have done something with a lot fewer bone names to memorize, but of course, she’d never chosen the easy path.
Femur fractures are classified depending on: The location of the fracture —
“Man, that looks like a nasty break.” A deep voice murmured somewhere behind her left ear. Ginny nearly jumped out of her skin as she whirled around to see… him. Harry. His grin was from ear to ear as he looked at her.
Ginny pinched her thigh, trying to wake herself from this glorious dream. Nothing. He was still there. Harry. Her Harry was here, in front of her after being gone for nearly a year.
It took a moment for her brain and mouth to reconnect. “Har —”
Harry cut her off with a hot, heated kiss, before pulling back to meet her eyes. “I love you.”
Ginny’s eyes began to sting. She rose quickly out of her chair and hugged him. Hugged him so tightly that she wouldn’t be surprised if she cracked his ribs. She buried her face in the crook of his neck. “I’m so glad you’ve come home.”
“So I’ll take that as you kept your promise.” Harry’s voice was soft and whimsical, but he held her just as tightly as she held him.
She couldn’t contain her snort. “Lord help me, I still love you even after all this time.”
Harry gently pulled away so their eyes met again. God, how she’d missed those eyes. “I knew it wasn’t just for the amazing sex.”
Ginny’s beamed at him. “Hmmm, I guess not, but I wouldn’t mind a refresher of what makes you such a splendid shag.”
He kissed her again. It was like every kiss was a bottle of Chardonnay, getting her drunker and drunker by the minute. “It will be my pleasure, love.”

1.
This was it. This was the night Branch Hawthorn was finally going to propose to his girlfriend of two years, Poppy Meadows. Everything was going to plan and for that Branch was grateful for as he was nervous enough as it was. Both he and Poppy had been able to leave their respective works early to get ready, although Poppy just believed tonight was a fairly normal date night. Then, looking their best and with clear starry night above them, they gotten to Trollington's best restaurant, Chez L'amour, with minimal traffic interference and their reservation had not been lost or given away, things Branch had worried about. Now, with their belly's full of warm delicious food and wine -though Poppy was always quick to assure Branch his cooking was still her very favorite- and dessert on the horizon, Branch was ready to take the plunge.
The mood was perfect, candlelight gleamed and a soft melody was echoing around them and Poppy was looking so beautiful with her bright pink hair pulled up with some strands framing her heart-shaped face and her freckles lit up by the flickering candles and her own bright smile. And her eyes, those beautiful, amber eyes that he just loved to get lost in, were shining with warmth and love just for him. And that was something he still couldn't get over, after all those years of pining and yet so sure he didn't deserve her, he had gotten the girl of his dreams and she loved him. And he hoped she accepted what he was about to ask.
Reaching out across the table, Branch took her hand in his as he returned her smile and hoped the nervousness he felt wasn't obvious. He must have been doing a good job of hiding it so far but he didn't want her to notice now before he had a chance to ask. And maybe it was a little cliché to ask in a romantic restaurant setting but he had spent weeks thinking about this and building up his confidence and he wasn't about to chicken out now. Given her hand a squeeze, he took a sip of his water to wet his throat before speaking, “Enjoy your dinner?” Start small, don't jump into it. All part of the plan.
His gorgeous pinkette grinned and nodded, “Yup! And I can't wait for dessert! I have been dreaming about their triple layer strawberry chiffon cake all week!” She took a sip of her wine before returning his squeeze of their hands before a playful smirk overcame her face and she cupped her chin in her head as she leaned over the table, “You know...You never did tell me why you decided this would be our date destination~ What made you choose the fancy place?”
Branch chuckled and hoped it sounded normal, it sounded off to him, but he simple shrugged and tried not to look away from those wonderful and curious eyes, “What? Can't a boyfriend treat his girlfriend to a fancy dinner once in a while? Plus I know how much you love to dress up, thought it be nice.” And he had a small square box burning a hole in his pocket, just waiting to be pulled out. Absolutely nothing unusual going on. Nope. “And have I mentioned just how beautiful you look tonight? Because you do, absolutely stunning~” He even raised her hand to his lips to kiss her knuckles softly to complete his statement.
“Stooop~” She giggled, that perfect sound the best kind of music to his ears as a light blush dusted her cheeks, “Keep talking like that and you might get lucky tonight~”
“I'm already lucky~” And he was. So, so lucky that this brilliantly bright and bubbly woman had not only healed his torn soul and made him want to live rather than just survive but had given her heart fully to him to hold and cherish. Something he did every day so thankfully and would hopefully get to do well into the future together with matching rings on their fingers. Taking what he hoped was a subtle deep breath, for this was it, he wouldn't get a better time to, Branch opened him mouth to begin his speech, something he had been working painstakingly on for months, pretty much since he decided he was going to propose, but was interrupted by the sound of applause.
He and Poppy, who took her hand back to turn around, looked at the reason for it at another table where another couple sat. A brunette man down on one knee was slipping a ring on the happily crying blonde woman's finger as the other patrons clapped for them. Poppy bounced in her seat, adding to the applause, cooing before she spun back around, “Isn't that sweet?! I'm so happy Oak finally proposed! Oh, Daffodil must be so happy! Isn't that great, Branch? Our friends are gonna get married!”
“Y-yeah..Super great.” Branch hoped beyond hope he wasn't being obvious on how he really felt. Of course! Of course the universe would do this to him! It was all going so well! But then of course something had to happen to ruin his plans! Yes, he could still ask Poppy. No, it wasn't Oak's fault for asking his own girlfriend just before he could but he didn't dare take the spotlight away from the other couple. Poppy was right, they were their friends, and while he was sure neither would mind it still felt wrong to Branch to ask Poppy now after somebody else had beaten him to the punch. Sighing, confidence now deflating as he slumped slightly in his chair, Branch decided he'd just have to try another time. It was fine. Completely fine! That decision made, not that it made him happy, the blue-haired survivalist resolved himself to finish off the rest of this night as best he could. Not that Poppy had any idea, she was far too excited to think anything was wrong with him as she pulled him over to congratulate their friends.
And maybe this was for the best, maybe his second attempt would go better?
2.
A few weeks later, some more planning, a few personal pep-talks and Branch was ready to try again. They were currently in her father's backyard, surrounded by all their closest friends, even Gristle and Bridget who managed to make it down from Bergenville, having a simple summer barbecue. Branch was manning the grill, keeping half an eye on the food and the other half on Poppy as she fluttered around their friends, having fun playing games and jamming out to the music Suki had brought along. And perhaps this would be a better proposal anyway. While Branch would have must prefer to propose in a more private setting, which made him wonder why he even thought of the restaurant version in the first place, Poppy would probably enjoy it more if it happened surrounded by the people she loved most. And she deserved everything that made her happy.
Adjusting a few hot dogs so they wouldn't burn, he closed the grill just as his barefooted beauty came skipping over, a cheery smile gracing her lips. Setting down his tongs, Branch easily and happily welcomed her into his arms as she wrapped hers around his neck and gave his nose a fond nuzzle, “Mmm~ Everything smells amazing! Can't wait to eat!”
Branch chuckled warmly, nuzzling her back as he rubbed circles with his thumbs over her hips, leaning closer to her, “Should be ready soon. I know everyone's getting hungry. But first...” He then closed the minimal gap between them, giving her a soft kiss that had her sighing and relaxing in his arms. Sharing a few more soft kisses, and ignoring the wolf whistles from Guy and Smidge, Branch subtly glanced at the grill and decided the food would be okay for a moment. Because he figured now was a good time to pop the question to the queen of his heart as he had her undivided attention. Subtly guiding her away from the barbecue, he distracted her with words and some more gentle meetings of their lips, “Having fun, I take it?”
She giggled, that wonderful, tinkling sound that always spread warmth through him and nodded, “You know it~! I'm so glad everyone was able to make it! It feels like forever since we last did something!” It really hadn't, the Snack Pack was still just as close as they'd always been but Poppy was always one for exaggerating when she could. And well...maybe it had been a few weeks since they'd gotten a chance to just relax and hang out without work or other engagements in the way.
Speaking of engagements....
Branch stopped the careful migration a few feet from the hot grill, in a good spot where everyone would be able to see what was about to happen and carefully nuzzled his and Poppy's noses together, hoping she couldn't feel the sudden rapid beating of his heart, “So I wanted to ask you something..”
“Hmm? Yeeess~?” She hummed, watching him with those sparkling eyes he really did drown in every time he looked into them.
“Well I-”
And for the second time his very important question was interrupted, this time by the back gate slamming open and a familiar voice shouting, “Sup, Losers!!! The party's just arrived!”
“Barb!!!” Poppy screeched happily, tearing herself away from Branch to run and jump into her cousins hold with a very enthusiastic hug. One the punk-rock queen caught easily before swinging the bubblegum princess around, laughing loudly.
“Sup, Popsqueak?! Came to see if I couldn't liven you and your sugary-sweet friends up a little!” The red-pink mo-hawked band leader said, finally putting the other woman down as her right-hand band mate and drummer came up beside her, in a much more subdued manner. “Yo! Boy-Toy! Add a few extra burgers cause I'm starvin'!”
“There's plenty!” Branch cried back as Poppy and the Pack swarmed Barb for greetings and playful jabs. He then sighed roughly, ran a hand through his hair and returned to make sure nothing had burned. It was fine. No big deal. There was still plenty of day left for him to try again. There was just an extra few people around to watch now. As he checked on the food on the grill, moving a few things around and taking the vegetable skewers off, Riff came over after getting his own excited hug from Poppy.
“Sup, man. Everything okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, everything's fine.” Okay, mostly fine. But having been around Poppy since they were kids, Branch knew to try to look for the silver living. He'd get another chance later that evening, he was sure. “Just weren't expecting you guys. Little surprised.” More like a little annoyed at the interruption but he'd get over it.
The dark hair drummer chuckled softly, “Yeah...but you know the boss lady. Loves to make a entrance. But hey! We brought beer!” He lifted up a large case of beer as a peace offering. Branch gestured to the cooler behind him, telling him to add some to it and thanked him, mind half on the cooking, half on thinking about when he'd get that second chance to talk to Poppy.
...Sadly for poor Branch, that chance never came.
Having spent the rest of his time at the grill, catching up with Riff, he had soon let everyone know food was ready and the group swarmed up for the delicious smelling entrees. Then as everyone are and laughed and enjoyed, Barb and Riff regaled everyone with tales of shenanigans and adventures of their world tour. Describing the pounding energy of their concert in Brazil to their little hot spring mishap in Japan after a show. Poppy was thoroughly entranced by her cousins tales and completely distracted from Branch's attempts to gain a little attention long enough for him to get the question burning in his throat out. Then of course the pop/rock duo started the karaoke with a bang, which as fun as it was, just distracted Poppy more and didn't give Branch a chance to regain any sort of romantic mood. By the time the sun was long set but the energy of everyone was still high, Branch had given up for the night. There was no way he going to propose tonight, especially after Barb convinced everyone to go clubbing.
They say third times the charm, right?
3.
A week and some brooding later and Branch was ready to start planning again. He needed to come up with a good one too this time, something where they'd be alone, without anyone around and where he'd have Poppy's undivided attention. However he, himself, was slightly distracted and prevented from doing any sort of real planning as he and Poppy were currently passing Saturday night as they were prone to do. Snuggled up on the couch, lights dimmed and watching movies. There was even a light pattering of rain outside to add the cozy atmosphere they found themselves in.
A Rom-com Poppy had been wanting to see was currently playing, the screen flickering image's by as the main character's flubbed another love confession and Poppy snuggled up close to his chest. Branch's head rested on the arm rest, arms wrapped snugly around his girlfriend, rubbing mindless shapes where his hands rested on her waist. He knew as soon as the movie was over they would probably have to move to bed, sleeping on the couch was not that comfortable nor good for them after all, but right now he was in no position to move either of them. Bending his neck, he buried his nose in her pink locks and inhaled the fresh strawberry scent of her favorite shampoo, nuzzling gently. That was when it hit him, they were alone, there was no one or anything to interrupt him and he'd have Poppy's full attention. Yes, his inner romantic cried at the lack of romance but he had learned from Poppy to take the opportunity when it was presented to you, not to shy away. So, taking a subtle breath to calm his suddenly beating heart, Branch got ready to take the plunge.
Starting simple, he murmured softly, “I love you~”
“Mmm~ Love you too~” The pinkette responded in a light and airy voice, settling as deep as she could into his embrace.
Taking a moment to rub her shoulder and place a gentle kiss on the top if her head, Branch began a speech that he'd crafted and re-crafted hundreds of times already it felt like and it never felt perfect. Hopefully though now, he'd find the right words. “I...can't tell you just how lucky I am to have you in my life. You are...the greatest thing to ever happen to me and I am so, so grateful you took the chance on this ragged, broken and gray soul and made life bright again. You...Heh, you are my sunshine, making my days brighter and fuller and more fun than ever before. And yeah, you're crazy with your scheme's and your scrapbooking and leaving glitter everywhere but I wouldn't trade that for the world. Bring on the cupcakes and rainbows because I'm ready...ready to spend the rest of my life with you beside me. Call me selfish but I...I don't ever want to go back to the dark and dull existence. I want you and your sunshine to wake up next to until we're old and bent over and you're still rocking that pink hair. Poppy...I love you so much and if you'll have me, it would make me the happiness man in the entire universe if you agreed to be mine forever. So...I ask you, Poppy Meadows, will...” Deep breath, “Will you marry me?”
There, he'd done it, he finally asked Poppy to marry him and now all that was left was for her to answer and then he could go get the ring from it's place and he could finally see it on her finger. But as the minutes ticked by and he got no answer, Branch was beginning to worry. Had he fucked up? Did he say something wrong? Did she not want to? Was she in shock? Was she trying to find a way to turn him down gently?! Trying not to panic, and failing just a bit, Branch carefully turned his head to look at the woman in his arms, “Poppy?”
And found she was asleep, breath's even and deep and completely dead to the world and the proposal he had just cited.
Biting back a silent groan, Branch tilted his head over the arm rest and stared at the ceiling. Of course, why wouldn't this happen?! The universe truly must hate him if it had allowed him to finally ask Poppy only for her to be asleep and having missed the entire thing. Great, just effing great, now he would have to get up the confidence to try again and after three failed attempts he was starting to think maybe he shouldn't. But, as the beautiful girl in arms would tell him, he needed to get back up again and not give up. And it said something about her impact on him when he knew after a little time moping about the newest failed attempt he would do just that.
Besides, he couldn't fail four times in a row, right?
4.
Another few weeks later and Branch was in the midst of planning something the would surely be his best plan yet when Poppy had decided a spontaneous camping trip up in the mountains would be fun. Unable to deny her but secretly lamenting the lost chance of being able to ask her under the fireworks display that was happening that weekend, Branch had agreed. So they packed up the car and drove off for a weekend spent in nature. Which normally would have thrilled Branch but he was still sort of disappointed in the loss of another romantic plan.
However, even though she had no idea she had off railed another proposal attempt, Poppy still managed to cheer him up with her natural exuberance and joy. And the more he thought about, a proposal under the stars with nothing but the quiet sounds of nature around them would be better anyway. He wouldn't have to compete with the sounds of the fireworks and worry about whether Poppy would hear him correctly or not. Yeah, this would be far better and far more romantic. So by the time they reached the campsite, Branch was in a higher mood then when they left, plans already formed around what he'd cook and how he would go about creating the perfect mood.
Arriving at the campsite in the late evening, Branch decided he'd wait until the following night to enact his grand plan, he'd waited this long after all. So he and Poppy went about building their campsite, throwing up the tent and while she piled the sleeping bags, blankets and pillows they had brought into a proper nest, he went to find them some firewood. Soon they had a nice cozy fire to sit by and after a quick meal of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, they were cuddled up in Branch's chair, Poppy having abandoned hers in favor of his lap. And having his loving, cheerful, kind girlfriend snuggled up in his lap had almost made Branch abandon all plans and just propose right there, he stopped himself. Waiting one more day wouldn't kill him, plus Poppy was already half asleep and he didn't want a repeat of his attempt on the couch. So, picking her up and carting her off to get settled in the tent, he quickly doused the flames before joining her, falling asleep with her in his arms and images of tomorrow night dancing in his head.
Too bad he hadn't foreseen the incident that had occurred the next day.
After a morning spent cuddling, flirting and in all good mood, something Poppy made sure to tease him about saying she had been right that the trip would be a good thing, his pink whirlwind had suggested a little hike after lunch. The day was perfect for it, sunny, a little breezy with fluffy white clouds drifting by in the sky, so Branch had agreed. Never mind that he was looking forward to the evening once the stars came out. So packing up some water bottles, trail mix, a few energy bars and gummy candies, they had set off on the local hiking trail.
Poppy of course either filmed or took pictures of anything she saw that she liked, which was almost any flower or butterfly that passed by and Branch was content to just let her be herself, in far too good a mood to be his usual sarcastic self. Well, almost, he did try to act normal as to not tip Poppy off. But she had still noticed something and when she asked him what had in such a good mood, he simply replied with why wouldn't he be with her by his side? Which had earned him a giggle and few kisses as she called him a flirt. Which, really, he wasn't going to deny that because he was flirting, the thought of finally, finally asking her to marry him making him almost giddy. Yes, he was still nervous as hell but this was the forth time he was trying and he'd be damned if he was going to let that stop him again.
Eventually they had arrived on top of a cliff overlooking the forest, the sight rather breathtaking. After a moment of admiration, Poppy was back to taking pictures and talking about nice everything was and Branch nodded and smiled back at her but his mind was elsewhere. He couldn't help as he watched Poppy gush as she was prone to do but to imagine the future, with her walking down the aisle in a gorgeous dress made by the twins, veil fluttering behind her as all their friends and family watched. And then she'd step up to him and exchange vows before they were dubbed husband and wife and he just knew she'd jump into his arms for that kiss as everyone cheered for them. Of course that little daydream soon came to a bursting stop with the next following of events.
There had been a rustling of bushes and before they knew it a deer was jumping out and running off, making both of them jump. Poppy had let out a little squeak and unfortunately for Branch, as he jumped back shocked out of his fantasy, he had gone a little too far and part of the cliff broke from under him, making him off balance and tumbling down to a lower ledge.
“Braaaaanch!!!” Poppy's scream echoed in his ears as he groaned, trying to regain his bearings.
“Branch, are you alright?!” Poppy cried down at him, worry clear in her voice.
“Y-yeah..I'm fi-Aaagggh!!!” Branch groaned, barely having sat up before having to clutch at his arm. Carefully pushing himself up, he pulled his hand away to find it covered in blood and groaned again as he covered his wound back up to stem the bleeding. Great, just fucking great. He was injured. And all because of a stupid deer. At least Poppy was okay. Looking up to check on her, his vision swam briefly and another moan of pain escaped him. Great, he probably had a concussion too.
“Branch! Branch, are you okay?!” Poppy was asking again, having wiggled her way down the steep incline to kneel beside him. She made a noise of distress of seeing him hurt and carefully cupped his jaw in her hands, “Hey. Hey, what can I do to help? Are you hurt anywhere else?!”
“I-I don't...” He hissed as pain pulsed through him, “Don't think so...Might have a concussion though...” He cursed under his breath before telling her to look in his bag for bandages, taking that brief moment of distraction to pat the inside pocket of his vest to make sure the ring was still safe. Which it was, so at least there was that.
Poppy quickly dug into his backpack, finding his first aid kit and pulling out the gauze roll. “Can you move your hand?” She asked softly, cringing at the sight as he did so, “Oh dear...That-That looks really bad....” She sniffed and Branch was about to start comforting her, telling her it probably looked worse than it was but she began to carefully move his sleeve away, causing another hiss to escape him. “Sorry...” She mumbled, wrapping his arm as quickly and gently as she could, sniffing and blinking back tears.
“Hey...” He said, squinting at her because damn his head really hurt, “It's gonna be fine. Please don't cry, Sunshine..”
“I know, I know...I just....that was so scary.” She wiped at her eyes and sniffed again, making Branch want to hold her and comfort her until she calmed down but it hurt to move just about everything. So he did the only thing he could at the moment and carefully brushed his knuckle over her knee, murmuring it was going to okay.
It was about then that someone was calling down to them and they looked up to see a forest ranger had found them. After Poppy explained what happened and that they could use a little help, she quickly finished wrapping his arm up. The next series of events happened rather quickly, at least they did for Branch who's consciousness was starting to go in and out a little and he struggled to stay awake. The ranger had help them off the ledge before helping Poppy carry him back to their camp, where she quickly began to pack everything up. The ranger assured her that he'd keep anything that was left behind and they could come get it later and that getting Branch to a hospital was most important. So then began Poppy's slightly frantic drive to the nearest hospital as Branch had continued his battle with staying awake.
In the end, everything was indeed alright. Branch had to have a good fifteen stitches in his arm and had to stay over night for observation because of the concussion but other than a few other scrapes and bruises, he was fine. But the incident had once again derailed any proposal plans that once he was patched up and allowed a moment alone, Branch had cursed the universe for. Couldn't he have one attempt not go awry?! Yes, sure, there had been other times he could have asked but damn it all, he wanted to do it right! He wanted a romantic scene to ask the love of his life to be his wife and not have it be an off hand mention or after a serious injury!! Was that too much to ask for?! Apparently it was.
So, slumping back into his pillows, Branch stewed and cursed the universe. And eventually started planning attempt number five.
And it had to work, it just had too!
5.
Once it was apparent that Branch was fully healed and recovered about a month later, Poppy suggested another weekend trip to celebrate, though this time it was to the beach. Branch wasn't completely set on the idea, worries of how another proposal attempt could be ruined swarming his head, but once again he really couldn't deny Poppy anything. And she was so excited to go see the sea and enjoy the scenery, ever after he pointed out that the weather wouldn't really be right for any swimming. But ever the optimist, Poppy had said there was lots more to do than just swim and so they made reservations at a hotel and went off for a weekend by the sea.
And as he predicted, the weather had been on the cooler side and slightly overcast but that hadn't stopped Poppy from convincing him to travel around all the shops the little ocean town had to offer. And he had to admit, once again, that she was right. It hadn't been all bad walking along the boardwalk and stopping by whatever little shop or stand caught her attention. Plus her excitement was so genuine and true, Branch couldn't help but eventually relax and have fun too. So they spent the afternoon slipping in and out of various stores, some with pointless, cute nick-knacks, some with clothes and accessories that he and Poppy threw on for selfies or she modeled for him, other with oddities such as seaside myths. They had enjoyed some sea-salt ice-cream at some point before dipping into a little hidden book store and then they stopped for a dinner of fish and chips.
Now they were walking down the beach, hand in hand with Poppy happily swinging their arms between them as the sun sank slowly over the horizon. And Branch had to admit, now would be a pretty good time to try again. They were alone, the few other people on the beach far enough way that they wouldn't somehow get in the way, the setting was calm and relaxing with the sounds of waves gently lapping at the shore as the setting sun painting the sky beautiful pinks and oranges, and Poppy was none the wiser to burning the question that had been lodged in his throat for months now. And nothing was going to stop him now. So, stopping and playfully swinging her around so he could pull her into an embrace, Branch pulled her close for a soft kiss.
When they parted, Poppy giggling lightly as her eyes shone with love, Branch calmly stated, “I love you~”
“Heehee~ I love you too~” Poppy giggled, leaning in for another kiss that Branch was happy to return before the slowly parted once more.
“So there's...something I wanna say...” And ask but he didn't want to give it away just yet. And boy did he hope she didn't notice how his heart had started pumping in his chest. This was it, he finally going to ask Poppy to spend the rest of their lives together and even though this was his fifth attempt, the nerves had returned like it was that first try again.
“I'm all ears, My man~” The pinkette said with a grin, nuzzling her nose against his as she settled her arms around his neck.
Deep breath and ignore the flush that came anytime she called him 'her man', “Well...you see..” Please don't let her notice just how stuttering he was becoming, “You are...the greatest gift I could ask for and I-” And before any more could be said a loud, long horn of a boat sounded, causing both to jump and to look toward the ocean where in the distance a ship could be seen. Huffing, and not about to let one measly horn blast stop him, not this time, Branch tried to continue as Poppy giggled lightly, “Right. As I was saying...” Another deep breath, he could do this, “I love you so much and-” Another three blasts of the horn stopped him again and he glared at the ship as Poppy started to laugh quietly. “Anyway. What I'm trying to say, Poppy, is-” And another long, drawn out horn had him groaning before calling out toward the sea, “Oh come on!!!”
Poppy was now full on laughing, laying her head on his chest as he stewed about the stupid boat, before getting a slight grip on herself. Reaching up, she cupped his face and ran her thumbs over his cheeks, “Branch. Hee~ Branch, it's okay! Let me guess, you have a new poem for me?”
He did but that wasn't what he had been about to say. Still he grumbled, looking off to the side, “Maybe...” He also had a proposal he just couldn't seem to get out before something went wrong.
“Then...~” Poppy started, bringing his face back towards her so she could nuzzle their noses together again, “Why don't we go back to our hotel so you can tell it to me where we won't be interrupted? And then you can tell me all my favorites as you...do other things to me~” She then sealed her offer with a deep kiss. One Branch sank into with a sigh but not without lamenting silently the derailment of yet another proposal. Sure, he supposed he could always try again later that night but something in his gut told him it wouldn't be the right time. He just wanted to propose to Poppy in a romantic setting without anything stopping him! Was that too much to ask for?! Apparently...
“Come on,” Poppy murmured, eyes glazed with want as she pulled away, “We can go take a nice warm bubble bath as you recite your newest piece to me~”
Branch hummed and let her take the lead back to their hotel, still brooding over his latest failure. This was five times now he had been stopped and it was starting to wear down his confidence that he'd ever be able to ask her. Which meant it was probably time to ask for help from her dad and possibly Suki and Smidge if he actually wanted to succeed. Sighing quietly to himself, he squeezed Poppy's hand and hoped that the next attempt would finally be the one.
He could only hope, right?
+1.
Poppy hummed a joyful tune as she walked down the hallway to her apartment, another day of party planning behind her. She still couldn't believe some days that she got to do one of the things she loved most for a living! And she was her own boss! Well...sort of...Sky Toronto was still sort of her boss, sort of her partner but that didn't matter! She got to help people plan out their very best parties! And it was soooo satisfying! Especially after long days like today when her clients had a specific vision they wanted done. Which was fine because everyone deserved to have whatever they wanted to be happy with the party they were throwing but boooy, did it tired her out! But that was fine too because she was now home where her wonderful boyfriend hopefully had dinner waiting for them.
Coming up to their door, and smiling as she always did when she caught sight of their door plaque she'd made, she opened it up, singing proudly, “I'm hooooome~!” Before a fantastically delicious scent hit her nose and she groaned. “Ooooh my goooosh~!” She quickly dropped her purse and came around to the kitchen as her stomach gave a rumble, “That smells amazing! Did you make enchiladas?!”
Branch chuckled, that warm, fond sound that always melted her insides a little as he finished pulling the dish out of the oven, “I did. I even made them...chicken enchiladas like you said you wanted.”
“Yeeeessss~!” Poppy hissed happily, “Yes, yes, yes! I am starving!” She excitedly through her arms around him once his hands were free in a tight hug, “You are the best boyfriend ever!” After pulling him down for a quick, grateful kiss, the pinkette pulled away for a little happy dance. “Oooh, I can't wait to dig in! What else did you make?!”
Another one of those warm, fond chuckles came from the blue-haired hottie she had a claim on and he gestured to the stove, “Some Mexican Rice and..” He led her gaze to the table where some different dips and chips sat, “Some sides.”
“Aaaah~! Yes! Your guacamole is the best!!!” Poppy scurried over and took a chip full of green dip, humming in delight at the tangy taste and did another little happy dance as she stuffed another chip into her mouth. “Gosh! D'ish ish shooo goood~!”
“Do you maybe want a plate full or do you wanna continue dancing in place as you eat over the table?” Branch asked, amusement ringing through his tone.
“Oh, haha!” Poppy responded, hands on her hips, “I can't help it! I told you I am staving! Mrs. Sparks ran me all over town looking for just the right party venue and I barely had time to eat lunch. But I did!” She added quickly knowing he would scold her for not eating lunch. “Anyway, once we finally found the right place, I started throwing out ideas for decorations and food and I think we've got a nice solid base now!”
“Sounds like you a had a busy day.” He grinned as she nodded, stuffing another chip into her mouth, “Also sounds like you might need a margarita.”
“You made margaritas?!” Poppy cried, excitedly, looking at him with wide, happy eyes. Oh, she officially loved this man!!! “Can we have them blended?!” She asked, bouncing happily when he nodded and turned to get the pitcher out of the fridge, telling her to get the blender out. “Yeessss~!” She cheered, already halfway to the cabinet to pull out of the appliance. As she set it out on the counter and watched him place the pitcher on the table before getting in the freezer for ice, the thought that this was her life, that she had such a wonderful, thoughtful and sweet boyfriend by her side made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And that she wanted this for the rest of her life. She wanted to come home after a long day to dinner or even surprise him in return with the same, she wanted long, cuddly movies nights and lazy mornings in spent in bed. She wanted picnics and romantic date nights, days spent at home filled with laughter and singing or the occasional quiet as they both worked on their respective hobbies. Games nights with friends and maybe, just maybe...one day an adorable child that looked like the two of them. Poppy wanted it all with Branch right by her side in every way possible. So without really thinking about she suddenly said, “Marry me.”
“WHAT?!?!” Branch sputtered, pulling out of the freezer with a wide eyed, shocked expression, staring at her like she had lost her mind.
It took a moment for her to actually realize what she'd said but then she was beaming and nodding, bouncing over next to him, because yes, she very much wanted to marry this man, “You heard me! Marry me!!”
Branch stared and kept staring and eventually he hid his face in a hand as the freezer door closed and Poppy was beginning to worry when his shoulders began to shake. At first she thought maybe he was crying but then the quiet chuckling came which soon turned into full blown laughter and he was leaning against the fridge to support himself. Poppy pouted at him and crossed her arms, “I'm serious, Branch! Don't laugh at me!”
He tried and failed to say something a few times, each times getting cut off by more guffaws then before, before he gestured for her to stay where she was and turned to go down the hallway. Poppy was very confused, and a little hurt, that he was laughing because she meant what she'd said but she didn't have time to think much more on it as he came back, still chuckling. Standing in front of her, he finally got a grip on himself and grinned at her, stray snickers still coming and going as he reached out to cup her cheek, “I'm not laughing at you, Sunshine. Promise. I'm laughing because...” He took a deep breath before cupping his hands around something and bringing it into her view, “Because I've been trying to ask you the same thing for months.”
Poppy gasped, hands flying to her mouth, as she saw the small velvet box opened on his palm containing the prettiest ring she'd ever seen. A golden band that held a round, sparkling blue topaz in it's center, flanked by two smaller pink gems, the metal band twisted around them to hold them in place. “Oh Branch...” She sniffed, grinning behind her hands, because of course that was the reasoning behind his sort of off behavior the last few months, before crying, “Yes!”
He smirked at her, blue eyes twinkling, “Pretty sure that's suppose to be my line. You did ask first.”
“Oooooh!!!” She growled, well and truly starting to cry now as she grinned winder than ever before, “Just-Just shut up and put that ring on my finger!!”
“So demanding.” He cooed, smile just as wide and eyes damp as he did just that. Giving her hand a look that said he was finally happy to see that ring on her finger before he brought it up to lay a kiss on it.
Then they were both laughing and Branch was scooping her up and twirling her around, hugging her close. Poppy cried as she laughed, burying her face in his shoulder, the unbelievable feeling that she was engaged coursing through her as Branch spun them around. Soon he stopped and she lifted her face to see he was crying and grinning she as she was and she felt another giggle come before they both leaned in for a kiss. Kissing him with all that she had, they stood there, her in his arms as they moved their mouths against one another's as their tears mingled. Pulling back, both breathless and smiling and so, so happy, Poppy looked into Branch's eyes and chirped, “I love you~!”
“I love you too, Sunshine.” He grinned, the expression lighting up his face like she loved to see, “And I will for the rest of our lives.”
“Good~ Because so will I~” And she pulled him for another celebratory kiss and another and another before they were both laughing and twirling again. And eventually they got to that dinner, now a celebratory one, and made plans to tell everyone the following day but for now...for now they were just going to bask in the haze of excitement and happiness that surrounded them as they looked toward a very happy and bright future together.

Always gotta go full cheese at the ending right? Anyway, this was obviously done a tad differently than I normally do just because I tried to keep within Branch's perspective and then Poppy's when I normally write both in conjecture to each other and it was a bit of a challenge but I'm really happy with how this came out! And I hope you all enjoyed it too!
Until next time!
