I'm not good at processing the deaths of public figures. The parasocial barrier is the same to me whether a person is dead or alive. It takes me a long time to really get it. People who are actually in my life are completely different. I've known the Gazette for 12 years, I never thought that I knew them or anything. I didn't even listen to them consistently in the past decade. That may prolong the process of me actually believing it. Reita really should not be dead. I know it's been a few weeks. I don't really believe it yet, even if I already *know* it. Reita, the bassist of the Gazette, should not be dead. It does not make any sense to me in the slightest.

Last Nights meals.
Leftover sliced chicken + spicy garlic, a portion of leftover hibachi leftovers mostly noodles, slice peppers + bleu cheese yogurt dressing.
Then I got dressed super cute (for me) and went to a Thanksgiving Eve church service. This is the first time in about 10 years that I have gone to a service. It is supposed to be gay friendly, so I went to check it out. The sermon was about stewardship and conservation. Odd that this would be the church service I would be drawn to, considering most of my reading this fall has had land and conservation themes. [Taylor Brorby Boys and Oil, highly recommend, especially for LGBTQ folx & Terry Tempest Williams "An Hour of Land." Also highly recommend for nature lovers] .
I then went with my girlfriend to Walmart to buy a TV. Hers broke a couple of weeks ago. I talked to my uncle while we were at the store. I stayed while while she set up the TV, and I had 2 sparkling waters while I was there. I didn't actually get home until almost 11 o'clock - I left shortly after 5.
When I got home, mom didn't want to eat so I basically had a snack of a Chobani flip (which was nice). I was still snacky and looking for something else to eat so I had a tub of sugar free jello.
I, of course, wanted other things but I told myself "no." It was too late to eat a bigger meal.
I woke up this morning quite a bit lighter than I have been lately! Wooooooooo!
The sad part is: Just in time for the big "day of eating."
Fuck.
I will have had 3 big meals, and that's just a little bit overwhelming. That's a lot.
That is alot considering the first meal revealed that I am a nervous Eater and which back for extras on things I didn't need because I needed to keep my hands busy.
I am so obviously in need of some connection/community and I have been trying to seek it out. I am grieving the loss of yet another lgbtq massacre. I feel too, that part of my eating problem is that I am literally home 90% of the time. Most of that time is spent alone, working. Or alone, cleaning. Mom doesn't conversate much sometimes. Can't track conversations so we don't really talk about much. She doesn't hear well and she doesn't remember well, so although she is here, sometimes loneliness can be a huge eating trigger.
I feel like just being out of the house helped me and it is non food time. So I am telling myself to do more of that.
But wait, celebrate!
245 today! Woo!
Right in time for a big eating holiday. I hate being so anxious and hating the holidays so much because of it. I hate having had dieted most of the years for holidays and missing out on all the yummy food. There were days when I was low carb that my sister's boyfriend would make me loaded bacon cheesy mashed potatoes to tempt me. I didn't break, but I think it gave me a Halo Effect when eating later. [Oh, I passed on the potatoes, so I can have this...and this].
The plan:
Make a healthy dish to take
Have a protein meal within the hour before leaving
Take some tea and/or ask them to make a pot of coffee if they don't have it on
Take nomorbidity before I leave the house
Take Gluccomannon right about when I get there.
Take a little of everything I want (science says you only really taste the first 3 bites)
Try to eat slowly. Smaller bites. Fork down between?
Ask questions, conversate.
Relax and enjoy myself. This day is not going to make or break me.
Take some holiday flavored sparkling water.

Cheat Day Part 2
I don't know what made me write this, but I hope this makes some sense. Dedicated to the sweetest @hstyleswomen @harrysficreblog
Masterist
Warnings: Angst
WC: 2800
Six years later.
The first few years of the split were brutal. You both couldn't spend a moment in the room with each other without crying or fighting. There seemed to be no end to your suffering, it seemed. But like all wounds, time heals most. You just needed some time to get your head in the game. Luna was your priority, after all.
Harry and you had found a rhythm in co-parenting. He would have her on weekdays for half the month, and rest you would have her. You both would alternate on weekends. As years have gone by, you both have learned to spend more time together, for Moonie's sake. Last year, you went on a vacation too. You, Moonie, Harry and his girlfriend Lisa. You and Lisa didn't have a great start, but both of you decided to hash it out for the sake of your little girl. She loved Moonie as her own, and you couldn't be more grateful. Lisa and Moonie had a beautiful relationship; she was a friend you little moon needed. Whenever Harry and you had arguments, Lisa would take Moonie and excuse herself out of the crossfire. Spending time with Lisa has made Moonie realise that it's possible to have more than one parental figure, and you can love them all the same. You couldn't be happier. You had finally got the opportunity to dive back into work fully and have a support system. That's what Lisa and Harry had become to you. Your support system.
Lisa and Harry met two years after the split. She had always been very kind to you, but it took you some getting used to the idea of your ex-husband with somebody else. So, of course, there was friction at first, but over time once you got to know her a little bit, you both got on very well. It definitely has something to do with the way she treated your daughter.
Lisa was a widow. Her husband and the little boy died in a freak accident. She never told you the details of how it happened, but it was something she was dealing with on her own. Harry had supported her through her grieving process, and that's what brought them together. It can seem odd to people how they got together, but those who know them know they're great for each other. Harry had changed too, since meeting her. He had a newfound appreciation for his daughter and his ex-wife and the relationship they had. That's what pushed him to work through the differences he had with you. He had to find a way to make things work and still be in your daughter's life. It took a lot of fights and compromise. But in the end, you two decided to put your past behind and march on ahead as a family. Even though it's not what you had signed up for in this relationship, but that doesn't mean you're not grateful for it.
It was Friday night, and Harry and Lisa would be coming in with Moons anytime now. It was a tradition you three had started for your little girl. Anne was coming over too. She wasn't happy with what happened, but she made peace with the situation like her son. You had taken the home you and Harry had bought, and he'd moved into another house close by. You both decided you needed to be closer to Luna. Even though it had led to multiple fights, in the end, you knew it was the best decision to stay close by. A few years ago, when Luna's appendix burst, he was close by to drive you both to the hospital and took care of at the hospital. When you have to go on work trips, he is there to take her in. It's an unconventional set-up, but it works.
Harry walks into your house with a very smiley Lisa on his arm. "Why are you smiling so much?" You ask her. She shows you her hand coyly. "Harry proposed to me this afternoon." Anne looks up from her phone, surprised. She smiles wide and the couple "Oh honey! I'm so happy for you both!" She rushes to hug the couple. Luna runs up to Lisa and Harry to embrace them. "I'm so happy for Pa! and you too, Lise!" Harry reaches down to her level and kisses her on the cheek. You were just standing and watching this exchange, kind of stunned. You knew they were serious, but you didn't think he was going to propose. You quickly recover and walk over to Lisa, "I'm so happy for you, Lisa! Congratulations!" You hug her, and over her shoulder, you can see Harry looking at you, and you wipe your eyes quickly and pull away from the hug.
The night goes better than you'd expected. You all celebrated with a nice bottle of wine and stories of how they met, and she told stories of her first few times interacting with Moons. Overall it was a beautiful night of reminiscing. Too bad you disagreed. You'd had a little too much to drink and caught Harry looking over to you every time you refilled your glass. You knew better than to call him out on it. So you just sat in a corner and wished you'd disappear.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
You wake by the incessant ringing coming from your phone. It's Harry. It's pretty late for him to be calling you, so you answer. "Harry, what's wrong?" You ask.
"Open your door; I'm outside." He speaks. You look at the time on your phone and get back on call. "What are you doing here? Why'd you call?" You ask again. "Just come out. I'll explain." You get out of bed and wear your robe and walk downstairs to your main door.
"Harry. What are you doing here? Are you drunk?" You look at him, confused.
He walks in. "I shouldn't have done it. I shouldn't have asked Lisa to marry me. I knew it when I broke the news to you today. I knew it was a bad call. I thought you wanted me to move on, but looking at your face today, I couldn't believe I had done that to you." He breathes out.
You look at him wide-eyed at his confession. "What the fuck? Did you just walk in here thinking you were going to make this stupid fucking argument and I was going to fall for it?" You say to him.
"Y/N, I know you love me."
"Of course, I love you, you bloody moron. I do, and I have for the last 15 years. But you cheated on me, remember? And you brought Lisa into our lives, whom I love very dearly, by the way. So what do you think was going to happen?"
"I can't stand being away from you. Living so close, yet you won't let me come near you. It's been killing me slowly each day." His lip was trembling as tears well in his eyes.
"Harry, you made this choice 4 years ago. You asked her to marry you. Why would you do this to me now?"
"I just need to kiss you once, please. Harry pleads.
"Think about Luna. Think about what you're ruining for her. We have already broken up our family. You can't break it anymore and cause her pain, please. I love you, I do. Very very much, and I can't stand here and watch you ruin yet another relationship, Harry."
"Please listen to what I'm saying. I love you, goddamnit! I need you to recognise that. I need you to tell me it will be okay, and we will be okay."
"We are okay, H. As okay as we can be. Please go back home to your fiancé, and don't bring this up again ever. For the sake of our daughter. Please." You're pleading with him now with tears streaming freely.
You turn around and walk back to your room. You laid back on your bed and cried quietly into your pillow.
You knew what you were going to do.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
You stand outside the door of your ex's mother. You have no idea how you will tell her what you have done to her daughter-in-law to be. But you had no one to turn to. So, you ring the doorbell and wait for her to open the door.
"Hello, darling! What a wonderful surprise!" She beams at you. You give her a small smile and walk into the house. You get comfortable on the couch in the living area while she closes the door and comes up to where you're sitting. "Moonie didn't want to come along?" She asks as she goes back to folding the laundry you had caught her in the midst of. "No, it's just me today." You spoke. "Let me put on some tea, and we'll have a good ol' mother-daughter chat. What d'ya say?" She smiles. "Yes. That sounds like a great plan." You smiled.
You both sat at the kitchen island, sipping on peppermint tea and mindlessly talking about things and catching up. You had yet to tell her. "Darling, let's stop beating around the bush, shall we?" Anne says to you. You freeze. She couldn't have known, but she definitely knows what's up.
"Harry came to talk to me the night he proposed." You looked down at your cup shamefully. Anne reached out to place her palm on yours, "I know. He told me." She smiles sadly.
"Yeah, and I can't live here anymore knowing how he feels." You whisper. "Are you going to tell him?" Anne seems calm like she understands how this must feel. "No." You look up at her with tears welling up in your eyes.
She gets up from across the table and comes around to where you are seated. She reaches out to you, and you lean into her and hold her waist, silently crying.
"Everything will fall in place, my child."
-----------------------------------------------------------------
You travelled a lot the following month, so it was easier to avoid Harry after that conversation you had. You had spent countless nights crying into your pillow. You knew you had to go back to therapy. You couldn't slip now. You had been doing so well.
Moonie was supposed to stay with you tonight. Harry would be dropping her off from ballet any moment now. You had been avoiding him ever since the incident between you too. You couldn't bear to look at him or Lisa. You just made up excuses most Fridays, some of which you were travelling, so it wasn't that big a deal. You were home to spend time with your girl and back to the office. Today, you'd just have to suck it up and face him. You didn't know what you'd say, but you couldn't avoid him forever. The thought alone had your stomach-churning. Suddenly the tacos you had for lunch didn't seem to be such a great idea. You walked into the kitchen and poured yourself a glass of cold water. You took an icepack from the fridge and carried both the items, and sat back on the couch with your head leaned back. You checked your phone for the time, and just in time, the bell rang. You got up from the sofa and walked up to the door. Opened the door to find Moonie, Harry and Lisa, all standing in front of you. You could see her ring glistening even in the porch light outside your home.
Suddenly you felt lightheaded and reached for the doorframe to steady yourself. Before you could think, you sunk down. But Harry was quick to catch you. Harry knelt beside you and laid your head on his lap, "It's okay, you're okay." He said softly. "Lisa! could you bring her some water, please". That's the last thing you heard before you passed out.
He was still standing behind you. "Are you feeling ill?" You rolled your eyes at him, you tried to sit up, and he helps you. "No, I think it's just the travelling." His eyes softened at your comment, "I've been calling you; you know? Why didn't you answer any of my calls?" He asks.
What were you supposed to say to that? I'm sorry that you want to leave your fiancé for me? Instead, you just shrugged. "I've been busy, Harry. Actually, I don't feel so good right now, so could we maybe talk about this later?" You turned to look at him. He moved backwards and out of your way to give you some room. "Yeah, sure. Can I get you something? I can stay with you for a few hours." He asked. "No. That won't be necessary, Harry. Please go home."
You walk into the living room and find Lisa making a cup of tea. "Hey, you feeling any better?" She smiles at you. She pours the tea into a cup and brings it over to you, "It always helped me, so I figured why not?" You thank her and take the cup from her.
"Yeah, I think it's just the stress from travelling so much. I'll be okay in a few days. I think I'm going to turn in." You asked. "Of course, darling. You just feel better, okay?" She smiles at you. "Honey, Let's head home and give this one some time to rest." She walks up to Harry and puts her arm around him, and sweetly pecks his cheek. He smiles, but it doesn't quite reach his eyes. "Yeah, I'll just go say goodbye to her", And he walks towards your daughter's room.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Harry : I need to see you, please.
You: Come over after dinner today.
Harry: See you x
"Are we going to talk about what happened?" He raises an eyebrow at you. "I think we're past the stage of talking at this point." You sigh. "What do you mean?" He asks. He's furrowing his brows at you like he does when he's concerned about something.
"I'm leaving, Harry."
"What."
"Yeah, I have been planning it for 2 months now. I don't know how long I'll be gone."
"I came to tell you that I ended things with Lisa, and I wanted to give us a real shot. Give Moonie an actual shot at a family."
"I don't need to tell you anything, really. We can figure out the details of how we're going to manage custody later over text or call."
"So you're just going to leave your daughter go to god knows where?" He asks you.
"I can't be here anymore, Harry. This opportunity will bring countless more opportunities for Moonie and me. And I need to do this for myself. Now, if you will please." You show him the door.
That was the last time you'd see Harry for a long time. But that's something he didn't need to know.
You didn't know if you'd be able to go through with it. But it had to be done. If Harry were to leave Lisa or not, it had to be on his terms, not because he was in love with you.
A few months later
When you told Anne about your plan, she wasn't exactly on board. But she understood, and she loved you. So, of course, she brought you to her farmhouse for you to stay. You and Luna made an agreement that she wouldn't tell her Pa that you're camping out here. Anne would bring her down on weekends. You'd found a strange confidante in your daughter. Not that you'd go into the details of your relationship with Harry, but she understood many things that you didn't give her credit for. That's how you spent the past few months. Getting to know your daughter, who hadn't been a stranger to your problems with Harry, even though that's how you wanted it to be.
You were sipping your morning coffee as you check your emails for anything you had lined up for the day. The date was looming over you, and you just needed to be as distracted as to not think about the wedding happening right now. You need to occupy yourself with work. So, you open the email folder and find an email from Lisa. She has tried to reach out to your multiple times on call and via text, but you always make an excuse about work or being sick. With time she stopped reaching out so often, and you felt less guilty for moving away.
Dear Leyla,
I can't say I haven't missed you these past few months. Hope you're well. I'm getting married today, and you're not here. In a way, I get why you left. But I just wanted to let you know that I wanted you here, just as much Moonie and Harry. Especially him. But you already knew that, didn't you?
With time, I hope he loves me just as much you love him.
Love,
Lisa.
You couldn't stop crying now. You knew that she knew.

Nico di Angelo was ten years old when his life went to hell. He never felt so devastated, so ruined. The only person who cared about him, his family, his everything was gone.
Nico hated all of them. He hated sister for leaving him behind, as if he was nothing, just to die afterwards and leave him completely alone. He hated those stupid huntresses of Artemis for taking his sister away from him. He hated Annabeth Chase, whoever it was, for falling off the cliff and making them go on this quest. But most of all he hated him. Percy Jackson. The ultimate hero, so strong and cool. He hated everything about him. He let him down. Percy Jackson let his sister die.
It was already a month since Bianca left this world. A lonely, cold month. Grieve still strangled him. This month has passed in a blur.
Nico passed an empty street, not even bothering to lift up his head. Snow was falling from the white sky and Nico shivered slightly from the cold. He needs to find some warmer clothes.
The city clock struck twelve, sound cutting through the silence. Another day has come. As if Nico cared. Suddenly he stopped, absentmindedly looking at the date on the billboard. 28th January.
Nico titled his head. He didn’t even know his birthday was coming. He always loved his birthday, so excited to modestly celebrate it with Bianca. Bianca…
A lonely tear rolled down his cheek, followed by another. Nico didn’t bother to wipe them, letting them fall.
“Happy Birthday to me.” He said in a shaky voice, sitting in the snow right in the middle of the street. Nico buried his face in his palms, trying to quiet down choked sobs.
Nico di Angelo was eleven years old when he lost himself.
*
Nico di Angelo was eleven when he started to chase the dream of making his sister come back to life. He was obsessed with the idea, almost going mad in the company of hurt and angry ghosts.
Minos had promised him that he’ll see Bianca again. And Nico believed. What else he could do. He was alone. He was hurt.
Why can’t she talk to him? Why she doesn’t want to show up? She doesn’t want to see him. She despises him. She doesn’t want him.
Nico heard rustling sound under his boots. He picked up the newspaper, catching the date with his eyes. 1st February.
Well, another year passed. Nico didn’t care that he missed his birthday. But a little ache didn’t want to leave his heart as he remembered how Bianca smiled at him the day he turned ten.
And then, months later, she showed up, just to say him that he has to let go. Just to make Nico know that this plan wouldn’t work. Minos was a liar. He used Nico. His only hope was trampled.
Misery was what Nico felt. The weird, nasty feeling crawled up to his throat.
Aside from that, one image didn’t want to leave his mind. His face lived in his head, not wanting to leave. His stupid smile, green eyes, tousled hair. Why Nico keeps thinking of him?
Why did she want to talk to him, not Nico? This stupid guy, with his annoying grin made Nico want to- What?
Nico freezed, trying to finish this though. Did Nico want to kill him? Hurt him? No, it was something else. He felt weird every time he heard his name. Percy Jackson.
Nico di Angelo was twelve when he started to realize something about himself.
*
Nico di Angelo was twelve when he wanted to rip out his own heart. Abnormal, disgusting. He was sick of himself. He felt nauseous at the very thought of it.
It can’t be true, no. He’s mistaken.
He was lying on his bed at his father’s castle, staring at the ceiling. He couldn’t sleep. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw his face. Those gorgeous green eyes, goofy smile, tousled black hair. His mind was ranting: Percy Jackson, Percy Jackson, Percy Jackson.
Nico felt like he was about to cry. Why is he like this? Is he broken?
He looked to the side, at his night table. A bouquet of red roses stood there. An hour ago Persephone strode to his room with these flowers and a weird expression on her face. She silently put them in a vase and went back to the door. She stopped there, turning her head a little to look at him.
“Happy Birthday.” Was what she said. Then she left.
So it was his birthday. He’s thirteen now.
Nico stared at the flowers, a little bit shocked. She remembered about his birthday. His father didn’t even bother to check up on him.
Hades only cared about their deal. Nico was very hesitant about that. But after all, he agreed.
He just thought that if he does that then maybe Percy would… Like him? But he didn’t.
Percy Jackson hated him. He screwed everything up. It was horrible. He had to fix it.
So he did the best thing he could. He had to prove to Percy, to his father, to everyone that he is worth something. He was just a kid and the battle was scary. He was scared. But he was a hero.
Everyone respected him, some people wanted to be his friends. He even wanted to stay at camp. Nico was happy but only for a moment.
Days after the battle the whole camp started talking about how Percy and Annabeth finally kissed and got together.
Nico left without a warning. Not like he had anyone to warn. Not like anyone cared.
Nico di Angelo was thirteen when his heart was broken.
*
Nico di Angelo was thirteen when Percy Jackson had gone missing. Annabeth Chase went feral. And Nico promised to help. Of course he did.
He was actually worried. What could happen to him? Nico only knew that Percy was alive. It was somewhat reassuring.
Something bad was about to happen. Nico knew it. New demigods at Camp Half-Blood. One of them is a son of Zeus. That was a bad sign.
And now that Nico knows about romans…
Today was 28th January. His birthday. He already got used to ignore this day. Nico just marked the fact that he was fourteen now.
The door of his room swung open. Nico sat up on his bed, seeing his father in his usual black robes.
He stood there in silence for a minute or so, awkwardly staring at his son.
“Um, did you want something?” Nico said, nervously fumbling with the ring on his finger.
“Yes.” Hades came closer to his bed. “Well, not really. It’s just…” Lord of the Underworld sat on the corner of Nico’s bed. “It’s your birthday.”
Nico blinked, processing what his father was trying to say.
“Yeah, I know. Thank you for reminding me.” He finally said, scowling at his father. Like he ever cared about Nico anyway. “If that’s all you wanted to say-“
“No.” Hades looked strangely awkward. “You made me proud this year, you know?”
Nico’s eyes widened. Was his father trying to praise him?
“I wanted to say that I’m… Grateful. You made me make right choice. And what I said about you before… I’m sorry.”
Nico was more than shocked at this point. He felt awkward and Hades didn’t look better.
“Anyway, I vaguely know that mortals usually make gifts for the day one came from mother’s womb. And I thought that maybe you should spend time with your… peers?”
“What are you trying to say, dad?”
Hades took a deep breath, as if he was nervous.
“I want to give you a present. So that you will be able to go wherever you want, in those places where teenagers usually spend time.”
“You want to give me a car?” Nico asked, puzzled.
“No, you’re too young for that. I’ll give you a chauffeur, he’ll be helping you go to the mall or something. Because, well… I’m not able to do it for you.”
Nico blinked again, titling his head to the side.
“A chauffeur?”
Hades looked embarrassed for a moment. Then he put on a stern expression, standing up.
“Objections are not accepted. You should be grateful.” He strode off to the door. Then he stopped. “Happy Birthday, son.” He closed the door, leaving Nico alone in the dark room.
Nico di Angelo was fourteen when he received his first birthday present.
*
Nico di Angelo was fourteen when he met him. Will Solace.
It felt like a dawn after long, cold night. Will was his blessing, his salvation. And Nico didn't know what did he do to deserve someone like Will.
They've been dating for a couple of months, wonderful, amazing months. And Nico was genuinely thankful for everything Will had done to him.
Nico woke up at the knock on his door, blinking through the gloom of Hades cabin. He didn't know if it was morning already, because black curtains prevented any gleam of sunshine from crawling into his cabin.
Still, Nico knew exactly that it was early and he knew exactly who was outside, because there was only one person in this world who dared to wake him up.
Nico got out of bed and staggering came to open up the door.
Will Solace stood on the threshold. He was wearing his usual winter jacket and a scarf, a blinding smile on his face. He seemed to be particularly happy today and, judging by the flush on his face, he was running.
"Hey, Neeks." He ruffled his hair and came in, closing the door behind him as Nico shivered from the cold winter air.
"Good morning." Nico mumbled, still half asleep. "What time is it?"
"7 a.m."
"Why did you need to wake me up so early?"
Will looked him in the eyes, taking Nico’s cold hand with his warm one, which is weird, considering Will was the one who had a walk on winter air.
"Do you know what day it is?" He looked excited.
"Um, no, to be honest. I don't pay attention to the calendar." Nico sat down on his bed, wrapping himself in a blanket.
Will looked shocked.
"Are you serious?! I mean... It's 28th January!"
Nico's brain needed a moment to process what exactly Will wanted from him.
"Yeah. So?"
"So?! It's your birthday!"
Nico sighed.
"Guess I'm fifteen now. That also explains this." He pointed to his bedside table, where black envelope was perched on the top of black box. "Probably from my father."
Will looked at him, then at the envelope.
"So, like... Happy Birthday."
"Thank you." Nico got up again, reaching for the box. "Now go so I can change."
"Ok." Will strode off to the door, a strange expression on his face. Though Nico didn't pay much attention to it.
Nico opened the envelope. There was a thick wad of money and an invitation for a dinner. Nico will come, of course, but not today. In the box lay watches and a book in Italian.
The day went by as usual. Nico had a walk in the woods with Will before breakfast, then they were busy with their camp activities.
In the evening, right before they were about to go to the campfire, Will took his arm and told him.
"How about we won't go to the campfire today?"
"But you like-"
"I don't need to go there everyday. Especially today. Come to your cabin in twenty minutes." And he hastily strode off in the direction of the cabin thirteen.
Nico came in after twenty minutes to be met with dozens of candles around his room. Will was standing in front of him, holding a cake with fifteen lighted candles perched on it.
"Make a wish." He whispered as Nico came closer.
Nico looked him in the eyes and didn't know what to say. So he just did what he was told. Will smiled brighter.
"I baked it myself." He said proudly. "Well, Cecil helped me."
He put the cake on the table, now fumbling in his pockets.
"I have something for you, actually." He said, pulling out a small box from his pocket. "I don't know if you're going to like it but..."
Nico didn't hear what Will was saying as he opened the box with trembling hands. He pulled out a sun pendant on a thin gold chain. The sun looked just like the tattoo on Will's shoulder.
Nico couldn't hold back a tear that rolled down his cheek. Will watched him attentively, stopping his ranting when he saw it.
"Nico, what's wrong-"
The next thing Will knew, pale arms was wrapped tightly around him, Nico's face buried in Will's chest.
"Thank you." Nico said in a small, shaky voice before pulling back. He placed the sun pendant on his palm, watching it glisten in the candle light. Tears still rolled down his cheeks.
Will looked at him, his eyes filled with warmth and understanding. He always understood. His sunshine was so alone, for so long. All Will wanted was to make him happy.
Will moved to embrace Nico in a tight hug, kissing the top of his head and then lifted his head with long, gentle fingers on his chin.
"I love you so much." He said. "You're such an amazing person. You're brave, gorgeous, smart, brilliant. Beautiful." He wiped the tear from Nico's cheek. "I will love you with all my might. I promise."
And with that he gently kissed Nico, making him smile while the tears of joy kept rolling down his cheeks.
"I love you, Will."
Nico di Angelo was fifteen when he found his happiness.

I offer a theory about tonight’s episode and the finale and yes it’s a long shot but I’m just writing this to make both myself and all of you feel a little better.......
From the very beginning of this episode, something felt off.
Dean tells Sam and Jack what happens to Cas and everyone has a very underwhelming reaction to it. Not to mention, they gloss over how exactly Cas died.
For the entirety of the episode they don’t seem very effected by Cas’s death.
Next, we’re told that Lucifer was brought back from the empty despite the fact that only a few episodes ago we were told chuck had no way of doing that. We can obviously chalk that up to bad writing and most likely it probably is. But it’s crazy that they seriously created a plot hole for episodes that are so close to one another. This is usually something we see happen between different seasons.
Also, despite everything that Lucifer has done in this show, the brothers are almost too quick to trust him. Granted they do have some doubts at the very beginning but the brothers would usually put up a bit more fight than that considering how much Lucifer has taken from them over the years. Dean has struggled to trust Jack for several seasons because of what he’s done and specifically what happened to Mary. And yet Dean trusts Lucifer in the space of a couple of minutes.
Then, there’s the ending.
When Chuck finally decides to end Dean and Sam, he says he can “Get his hands dirty” despite the fact that in an episode earlier in the season, Sam accuses him of being too afraid to get his hands dirty.
Chuck is defeated almost too quickly for being God. And the way he begs for Sam and Dean to kill him as they drive away also just doesn’t seem like God.
Also, this entire season, we’ve seen Dean absolutely furious over what Chuck has done to him and his family’s lives. He has been so hellbent on killing him that he pointed a gun at his own brother just two episodes ago. Even last episode, he tried to take Death on by himself because he was so motivated to kill Chuck. And then when he’s finally at that moment he’s been waiting for, he barely seems to care. Granted, it could be argued that Cas’s death might’ve made him finally realize how reckless he’s been the entire season. But everytime Dean has ever lost someone he usually has two responses. Getting himself killed or revenge (with the exception of Sam’s deaths where he obviously desperately tries to bring him back but I’ll talk more about that in a second) It’s been a consistent pattern with him throughout the show. And yet all of them are absent here. They’re not even acknowledged.
And also, them sparing Chuck wasn’t them being heroic. Killing him would have been mercy in this instance. Instead, they force him to live as mortal with no family—because he killed the only son who still trusted him, and he has to spend the rest of his life knowing he couldn’t defeat Sam and Dean. This specifically reminds me of that scene when Dean was demon back in season 10 when he spared the man who had traveled all that way and trained his entire life just to kill Dean for what he did to his father. And Dean spares him. Not because it was the good thing to do. Because the man would spend his entire life knowing he missed his one shot and that was ultimately a worse punishment than death. And they do the same thing to Chuck in this episode.
When Jack brings everyone back, the boys don’t even seem to care that now all of their friends and Eileen are alive. Sam doesn’t even mention her despite the fact that two episodes ago when he first heard about everyone “going back to where they belong” his first concern was Eileen. He was also completely gutted last episode knowing she was gone and he doesn’t even mourn her in this episode.
Also, when Jack becomes God, Dean doesn’t even ask him to bring Cas back. Despite the fact that this is once again one of his common responses we’ve seen consistently throughout the show when he loses someone. And especially considering how Cas died, Dean should especially want him back. Even when not interpreting his feelings romantically, Cas has been his best friend for 11 years. And they finally have the peace that Cas helped them fight (and sacrificed his own life) for. Dean would want Cas back. Especially since he knows now from earlier on in this episode that God has the power to do that.
Jack then decided to not go to the bunker with them. Despite the fact that for the three seasons he’s been in, the only thing he’s ever wanted was a family and to be accepted. (Let’s not even mention the fact that the brothers were both just chill with a 3 year old running the universe now. Even if it is Jack. He’s literally three. But whatever.)
The boys head back to the bunker and celebrate their “big win” if you can even call it that. They are completely content with being all alone. They lost Cas. They kind of lost Jack too. And they’re fine with it.
Literally last season, a bunch of hunters from the alternate dimension that they barely knew were all murdered and they were more upset about the bunker being empty after that than they are at the end of this episode.
They do a toast to all of the people they’ve lost along the way in a bit too good of a mood, which is something that these characters would never do. We’ve seen them grieve every person they’ve ever lost prior to this episode and they always believe the blood in on their hands. Yet now they’re suddenly content with the people they’ve lost. Even if it was their own faults.
The entire show has been about family. And yet half of their family is missing in this ending and they’re okay.
The entire show has also been about how the two of them have a crippling codependent relationship and how that always seems to start trouble. Instead of the brothers finally acknowledging this relationship. They now live happily in the bunker. Probably still codependent on each other.
Which means neither of them were forced to learn a damn thing.
My point is this episode feels very off.
And people who have watched 15 seasons of this show more than likely recognize that.
And there’s so many things that seem wrong and ooc that it almost feels as if it’s on purpose.
And that’s why I’m starting to wonder.....
What if it is?
There’s one more episode to go and what if, just maybe, they reveal that the episode that we just watched tonight isn’t what really happened. Maybe it’s the cheesy “it was all a dream” trope. Who knows?
The biggest reason why I believe this (besides the fact that I’m just a salty bitch and I need to find a way to calm myself down) is because this ending aligns almost perfectly with what Becky said about Chuck’s final ending earlier on in the season.
I now provide you the examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just saying.....
I think that this might just be another variation of Chuck’s endings that they were forced to play out. Or something like that.
Because there’s just so many things that don’t fit with the entire rest of the show.
From what I’ve seen online thus far, people are very upset with this episode. Because they’ve watched 15 seasons of this show and they can tell when something just isn’t right.
And in a way, if this episode was purposely made to feel off to then reveal in the finale that none of this was real, it would pay respect to the fans who watched the show for all these years. Because they’re so familiar with the characters and the way plot lines usually play out that when all of a sudden it felt like Opposite Day watching this episode, they picked up on it and they were supposed to.
(Also another thing that I just realized I forgot to add, maybe this is just me, but a lot of the scenes in the montage at the end were very random??? Like a lot of them were insignificant scenes from the show. Ya know? I just think if any of us put together a montage for this show it would probably feature very different scenes. Like way more important ones. Maybe this fits into my theory? Maybe I’m absolutely reaching too damn far with this one. Idk. Please tell me I’m crazy)
Maybe this episode relied on fans having extensive knowledge of this show and it’s past. Maybe this episode wants you to believe something is off about it. Because they’re going to rip the rug right out from under you in the finale.
Hell, maybe this entire season has been a lie. We’ve seen Dean specifically do things he would never do in previous episodes. Point a gun at Sam. Tell Jack he’s not family. Be completely on board with sacrificing a family member. And Sam has been practically wallpaper in this season but maybe let’s not get into that too much. And hell, I’m gonna say it: Destiel went kinda canon when we never in a million years ever thought it would. Maybe all of these things are supposed to tell us all of this season wasn’t real? Maybe. Dunno. I think I’m actually just going insane? Yeah that’s probably it.
I’m really just spit balling here. Mostly because I was very upset by this episode. But maybe some of you feel the same and even if this is nowhere close to where the show is heading in its ending, I just wanted to maybe provide some comfort to those who feel the same as me.
Or maybe I’m completely wrong and this episode was just bad.

The first couple of weeks following the incident that had taken my long-lost mother from me was misery in its purest form. Link and I didn’t speak, not even by phone, during that whole stretch of time. In fact, I could rarely bring myself to answer the phone at all. The memory was still too vivid, the wounds still too fresh.
He’d gotten off scot-free in the end as he’d been deemed to have acted in the defence of others—namely, of me. It wasn’t long before I learned of his plea, that if I hadn’t come along quietly, I would have suffered the same fate that he’d brought upon her, and they had believed him. How I felt about this was still something I was struggling to wrap my endlessly pounding head around.
As dark and deep as this seemingly bottomless pit of despair that I’d found myself plummeting down was, however, someone did eventually toss a rope down for me. The time I spent apart from Link gave me the opportunity to properly reconcile with those whom I myself had wronged: Auntie Purah and Paya. The former and I found comfort in our mutual grieving, and even as Paya had never really known my mother well enough to mourn her loss (though, arguably, it seemed no one had ever truly known her), she was more gracious and understanding than I or anyone else would have been, which only made me regret even more deeply my past transgressions toward her.
One day, during one of our continual conversations, she shifted to the topic of the Yiga leader’s executioner. How she could even think of him at a time like this was beyond me, but I digressed. I told her everything from start to finish. It was the first time I’d allowed myself to talk to anyone about it at length. As I spoke, she listened calmly and carefully. Despite what I’d have liked to believe, she had always been the more levelheaded one out of the two of us, save for when it came to discussing things about herself.
By the time I finished, I’d begun bouncing my still healing ankle back and forth, which I’d crossed over my other leg to keep it from touching the ground. I didn’t stop even after I noticed what I was doing.
“It’s painfully clear to see how conflicted you are about all this.” Coming to sit beside me on the sofa in the Sheikahs’ sitting room, Paya placed an affectionate palm on my thigh, bringing its restless jittering to a halt. “I understand how hard this must be for you. But the way I see it, there’s only one question you need ask yourself at the end of the day.”
Whatever she was about to say, it wouldn’t be an easy pill to swallow, would it? I straightened my posture. “And what would that be?”
“Between the two of them, who do you think was the better person?”
She was looking me dead in the eyes, her hand still resting upon my leg. I uncrossed them.
I’d never thought to compare the two before. What reason would I have had to do so? But now that she’d mentioned it, I hadn’t realized how few memories I even had left of my mother, and the ones that remained were blurry and vague beyond any hope of being recovered. If only she hadn’t left me with the Sheikahs all those years ago, maybe I could have remembered more clearly what kind of person she had been.
On the other hand, Link had always been there for me. Even during the times when circumstances had driven us apart, the thought of him was what had kept my flame burning strong and hot throughout each arctic day, and what had protected me from myself, keeping me from doing the irreparable. He had stayed by my side to the bitter end.
No matter how I’d reflected back on that day previously, the sight of his steely, focused stare and the sound of his crazed breaths, short and sharp, had been ever dominant. But now, I recalled the way those eyes had then glazed over with unadulterated horror. How his arms had shivered as they’d clung to my broken form and how they’d continue to cling for what would feel like millennia until the rest of his unit would finally stumble upon the scene.
My stepsister-of-sorts gave my leg a soft squeeze as I looked back at her with a tremor in my lip. “He s...saved me,” I whimpered. “Didn’t he?”
Tumblr media
After a month apart, I made plans with Link for a night out on the pier, where we would celebrate the end of the Organization. The ice cream I’d promised him was at the top of my list of priorities for the evening. Tonight was a dessert-first night anyway, I’d decided. From there, we went and found ourselves a bite to eat at a seafood restaurant within walking distance. I’d hoped eating with him would feel like old times, but he hardly spoke a word throughout the whole meal. I tried lightening the mood with some banter, but this proved ineffective when he brushed off everything I said with mere one or two-word replies.
It wasn’t until I’d gotten us both a bit of something to drink that he finally broke the silence. “Have you...” he started, but lost the confidence to continue.
I perked up at the sound of his voice, wanting to hear more of it. “Have I...?”
“A-Ah...” His fingers poked at the copious amount of chips piled onto his plate next to the practically untouched fillet of fried fish. “I was just wondering if you’ve thought about what you’re going to do now, since...you know...you’re not a detective anymore.”
“Ah, right. That.” I took another sip of my drink, its contents long having fled my memory. “Actually, my auntie talked about it with me and she said she’d consider letting me inherit the company once I’ve acquired the proper education. So to answer your question, I’m thinking about going to school for engineering.”
His brows rose. “Oh! My, that’s—” He cleared his throat. “That’s brilliant. I’m happy for you.”
I thanked him with a hesitant grin, then asked, “How about you? Do you plan to stay on with the force, or...?”
“Ahh, well...” What little there’d been of an upward turn in his lips vanished. “I’m not sure, to tell you the truth. It’s something I’ve been mulling over for a while now. Whether to stay on and honour my father’s work, or...whatever other options are available, I suppose.”
“Do you want to hear what I think?” He raised his head. “I think you should do whatever you think would make you happiest. That’s what you’re father would have wanted, I’m sure.”
This finally, finally, got a real, unsubdued smile out of him. And I intended to milk that smile for all it was worth.
After dinner, I dragged him back down to the arcade on the pier, where I managed to ring a few laughs out of him while we were still a bit tipsy. We steered clear of the toy gun target-type games, favouring other stands like the ring toss where he won me a plush frog that I could only just get my arms all the way around. His aim was spectacular, especially for someone who wasn’t entirely sober. Not only that, but I could never have imagined how sweet and charming he would be like this. For a fleeting moment, it felt as though we’d gone back in time again. That, or the light from the setting sun was playing tricks on me.
But by the end of the evening, he’d reverted back to that quiet, reclusive version of himself that I’d quickly grown to detest. We were out on the docks now, facing the sea. The breeze carried a mist of saltwater within its bows. I breathed it in, soaking up the feeling of it hitting me softly and coolly in the face. A hint of pink in my partner’s cheeks caught my eye, and I wondered whether it was the cocktails or my arms, which were currently wound about his waist from behind.
“Beautiful sunset,” I tried, hoping I could get him to spare me a glance at least. “Isn’t it?” But to no avail. He only continued to gaze westward at the rippling flames reflected in the water. “Hey...” Before I knew what I was doing, my palm had found the warmth of his cheek, and there was hardly an inch or two of distance between the tips of our noses. Without giving myself time to think, I tilted my head, leaned in, and started to close my eyes.
But when I realized he wasn’t doing the same, I halted. On the contrary, he’d been leaning back and away from my advances, his back so rigid and shoulders so stiff it were as though he would sprout wings and bolt were I to make any sudden moves.
“What’s wrong?”
A harsh, jagged exhale. “Zelda, I just can’t—” He grabbed both my wrists and wrenched my arms off of him. “I’m sorry. We can’t do this.” He was bent over the railing, arms folded in on each other. “Not now,” he said, dwindling, “after I’ve gone and...murdered your only family.” A weary chuckle shook him by the shoulders before he raked his hands through his wind-tousled hair.
I fell into quiet thought for a moment. Then, taking a long, thorough breath, I placed a feather-light set of fingertips atop his own. “That woman was never my family.” I’d made up my mind. Figuratively or otherwise, my real mother had moved on a long time ago. And it was time I did the same.
Link must have seen the resolve in my eyes or heard it in my voice, because now he was looking back at me openly, his body turned to face me. Though there was still an air of uncertainty lingering about him as he ran the crease of his cuff between his fingers again and again. But when I brought my arms around him and held him close, he sank into my lips, returning my embrace at long last. A lone pair of tears fell from my eyes the moment they fluttered closed—a culmination of all past ordeals—and as they fell, I couldn’t help but smile.

a little thing for @delimeful 's alien Sanders Side Au WIBAR. Go check it out if you havent already. (The speaker's native tounge will be in italics) Chapter Two will be posted soon.
Clownery, hijinks, shenanigans, whatever you wanted to call it, these events were commonplace on the Mindscape. They had increased pretty significantly since the addition of their latest crewmember, a deathworlder who had been abducted from his home planet and forced to survive in a universe to wide to fathom. Or Virgil, if you wanted to be polite.
This particular misadventure began when Virgil asked if Logan would be able to calculate the date on Earth, which Logan took as a personal challenge. The two of them spent several hours planning and theorizing, Logan speaking in his normal flowery cadence, and Virgil in his slightly stiff common, occasionally replacing a word with an English one if he couldn't think of the right translation.
"Well when I... left, it was winter, so-" Virgil isn't able to finish his sentence before Logan butts back in, hands twitching excitedly.
"What is winter?" He asks, leaning forward. Virgil blinks a couple of times, trying to think of the right words to describe it.
"When the sun is far away. It's cold?" Virgil offers hesitantly. Logan nods thoughtfully, seemingly appeased.
"Yes, we have that too, on my home planet. We call it Abether." Logan says matter-of-factly, Virgil looks interested, and opens his mouth to ask a question, but is cut off by the door slamming open, making him jump to his feet and draw his shoulders up defensively, his mouth curling into a snarl.
It, of course, is Roman and Patton, both bearing warm plates of food. Virgil catches sight of Roman's vicious glare at his defensive behavior and immediately sinks in guilt. Thankfully for the energy in the room, Patton's eyes were too scrunched up in his own version of a smile to see Virgil's aggressive reaction to his arrival. Logan side-eyes him slightly, which Virgil ignores valiantly.
"What are y'all up to?" Patton asks cheerfully, setting down the plate of food in front of Virgil. He knows that it's his because it has the most food on it. Virgil can't really find it in himself to feel bad about being allotted the biggest portions, both because of his demanding physiology and the fact that he is severely underweight, even for his naturally lithe figure.
Virgil eats as quickly as he dares without coming across as predatory, and finds himself, not for the first time, grieving his life before he was taken. He shakes off the dark thoughts threatening to cloud his mind and tunes back into the conversation.
"-We've been trying to figure out what time of year it is on Virgil's home planet," Logan explains evenly to the others. Virgil nods in confirmation.
"Why's that?" Patton asks, sitting down to eat and popping a piece of yellow fruit into his mouth.
"I just want to know," Virgil says quickly. His eagerness to brush off the question draws curious stares from all three of his crewmates, and Virgil curses himself internally.
"Yeah, right. What's the real reason?" Roman asks accusatorily. Virgil frowns, swallowing the strange meat in his mouth before speaking. He had learned a good few weeks ago not to talk with his mouth full.
"I just... I want to know what's going on back home." Virgil says hastily, averting his eyes to look at the quickly passing stars outside the window. The others must sense that it's a heavy topic for him because the questioning stops, and Vigril catches Patton elbowing Roman in a weak spot in his natural armor when he thinks Virgil isn't looking. The sight makes a small, closed-lip smile appear on his face.
They all eat in silence until the computer (or an alien equivalent of it) lets out a shrill beep that has everyone in the room startle in surprise.
"Ah!" Logan says brightly, setting down his half-eaten food and walking towards the large black monitor. "The results are in!"
Virgil gets up too, moving silently to Logan's side. He tilts his head curiously, and then straightens it, a bit self-conscious when he sees the curious look Logan shoots him. Virgil clears his throat pointedly to get Logan back on track, making the four-armed alien jump and turn back to the screen.
"Here we are..." Logan says, staring at a block of text that is completely incomprehensible to Virgil. "Ah, the date is in your language. I guess there wouldn't be an approximate translation. Can you read this?" Logan asks, stepping out of Virgil's line of sight so he can have a better view of the scrawling text. Virgil leans forward, squinting slightly at the only familiar line in the script.
"It is... December 18th." A shock of emotion runs through Virgil making him go a bit lightheaded. He takes a step back, ignoring the concerned looks of his crewmates.
"Virgil?" Patton asks softly, brows furrowing. "Is everything okay?"
Virgil knows the signs of an oncoming panic attack, he just doesn't know why this is making him panic. It shouldn't matter. He usually didnt celebrate his birthday even on Earth, and he's had countless ones pass by in space without even noticing. Why does it matter so much now?
A small hand is on his elbow all of a sudden, and Virgil's swirling vision returns to him enough to see Patton's worried face.
"Do you need to leave the room?" Patton asks calmly. Virgil shakes his head no. He's fine. He is. He just needs to go cry it out in his room.
"No, It's fine. I just... need to go lie down." Virgil grinds out, wincing at his rough voice. Before he can go Logan places a hand on his lower arm. Virgil jumps, but at this point, he supposes he should just be proud of himself for not putting his crewmate in a headlock out of shock.
"Hold on, before you go," Logan starts, making Virgil tense. "What upset you? I want to know so I can avoid it happening again." Logan says evenly. Virgil could sob with gratitude, but he swallows it down.
"It's really nothing serious, it's just..." Virgil has to take a second to breathe so his next words don't come out as a sob. "It's my birthday tomorrow."  Despite Virgil's best efforts, the last word comes out cracked, and he quickly turns to hide his embarrassed face.
He makes it out of the room without having a breakdown and practically runs to his room. He wedges himself into the cupboard he sleeps in, ignores how hard he's shaking, and cries.

Take My Hand (take my whole life too) - a Daisy/Daniel post S7 oneshot
Tumblr media
Fandom: Agents of Shield
Pairing: Daisy x Daniel
Rating: G
Word Count: 3033
Author’s Note: Here’s a little post season 7 oneshot. Just some ideas I had for how the series could end for our lovely ship. I’m sure the next episode it will get ‘Jossed’.
Take my hand (Take my whole life too)
Daisy found herself alone, sipping on the last of her champagne. Sounds of laughter fill the backyard where the small reception is taking place. She’s filled with happiness for May and Coulson, but as she stares across the patio, eyes lingering on Sousa as he plays with little Diana Fitz-Simmons, she can’t help but feel a deep well of sadness. May and Coulson have known each other for two decades, and they’ve just now settled down and committed to a life with one another. It makes her hurt for all the missteps and loneliness that her pseudo-parents took to get here.
It makes her hurt for herself, and the man she’s just starting to realize means more to her than she’s comfortable with.
The sliding of a chair brings her out of her melancholic reverie, and a warm hand settles on her shoulder. Without thinking, she leans her cheek on it as she continues to stare out across the party.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Coulson prods.
Taking in a deep breath, Daisy exhales her sigh. She doesn’t want to dampen his night, but she knows he won’t settle until she’s given him something.
“It took so long for you to get your happy ending.”
That’s all she says, and she thinks it’s enough to convey all the things she’s feeling.
Coulson follows her gaze, his thumb rubbing soothing circles on her shoulder. He has easily put two and two together over the past few months as he’s watched Daisy stumble and dance herself around Agent Sousa.
“You’re wondering if it’s worth it?”
She nods, a hand reaching up for his to pull it down with hers as she turns her body to face him. He’s so happy right now, which should be answer enough to her concerns. The burdened weight of years of sacrifice have lifted from his face and posture, replaced with soft laugh lines and warm eyes. A mist settles over her eyes when she remembers that she had lost him once upon a time before traveling to the past, and fixing that one wrong that cut deeper than all the others. He was flesh and bone once again, and he was happily married with a gold band on his finger. He’ll be able to grow old with May instead of having to watch her die one day.
“Happiness seems tenuous at best. Our life takes it away so often, why risk it after so many years of not getting to this place?”
“I get it, I do,” he admits. He takes a swig from his bottled beer and sets it back on the table. His fingers fiddle with the bottle wrapper as he gathers his thoughts.
“We took a long time, and yeah, sometimes I wished we hadn’t. I wish we’d figured things out sooner, but I have to believe that it gave us the foundation we need to make it last, that otherwise we would have started something we couldn’t finish.”
“You know more than anyone what I’ve lost. I know what you’ve lost. I don’t know if I can survive losing someone else.”
The smallest tear squeezes out as she admits her fears. Coulson wipes it away immediately, and then tucks a few stray hairs behind her ear.
“You can survive anything. You’ve always been capable of so much more than you know. It’s the very reason you deserve your own happiness. I know you’ll get it one day, because there’s no one that deserves it more than you...except maybe a displaced WWII veteran,” he pauses with a soft chuckle as he glances back at the dark-haired man shuffling a toddler around on his feet.
Mirth fills his eyes as he returns his gaze to Daisy, her face burning red while she pointedly stares at the ground.
“And when you do, you’ll know. The bones will be good, and the time will be right. Every couple is different. Your happy ending might be a lot closer than you think.”
 Daisy scoffs.
 “Nice. Subtle.”
Coulson gives her that dad look.
“People arrive, so we celebrate, and people leave us, so we grieve. We do what we can with the time in between,” he pauses and gives her a knowing look. “For a sentient chronicom, Enoch understood the crux of humanity. Life can’t be just the things we lose.”
“I’ll try to keep an open mind,” she begrudgingly acquiesces.
He looks mollified as he leans back in his chair, crossing his arms. She’s reminded of how lucky she is to have him back in her life, to have someone who cares enough about her wellbeing to have this conversation. As they sip their drinks under the night sky, she thinks back on their first night of freedom at the rundown motel after Hydra was exposed. Even then, with half of a chocolate bar, he was trying to take care of her. Not for the first time, she wonders what her life would have been like, and what choices she would have made if she had had a father figure like Coulson in her life all along. Would she have chosen people like Myles and Ward?
She does know that Daniel’s unlike anyone she’s met before, and she doesn’t just think it’s because he’s a man out of time. There’s a goodness and steadfastness that is woven through him like the suits he still insists on wearing. Somewhere in there is a joke about how girls fall in love with men like their fathers. There are a lot of differences between Daniel and Coulson. There are also a few similarities. Apparently Daniel is the original Agent Suit, and apparently he also likes to take care of her. After going through countless time loops that proved over and over the type of man Sousa is, she’s doing her best to accept the help, and maybe let down her defenses a little bit. But accepting help is one thing, and jumping heart first into a relationship is another. They’ve barely been able to catch their breath since defeating the chronicoms, much less have any time to see if their feelings were more than surface level.
A small wrapped box is placed in front of her on the table, bringing her out of her conflicting thoughts.
“I got something for the new Director. Something every Director of a super top-secret spy organization should have,” he finishes with a grin, looking so much like the adorable nerd he is.
“Um...this is your wedding day. I’m pretty sure I’m supposed to be the one giving you a gift.”
Coulson merely shrugs. Daisy starts pulling the string on the wrapping paper.
“It’s also the first day of my life as a civilian.”
She can’t help but laugh as the dark blue paper falls revealing a simple wooden box.
 “I don’t think you’ll ever be just a civilian.”
Her wide grin drops from her face when she sees the familiar keys nestled in the now opened box. She looks up at Coulson with wide eyes, words of refusal already in her mouth.
“No, I--” but he doesn’t let her finish.
“Yes. It’s time to pass the torch. She deserves to keep going on adventures, not sit in my garage,” he insists, closing his hand over hers, folding the keys into her palm.

She watches as Coulson steps in, lifting Diana into his arms, swinging her around in a half waltz. Daniel laughs with his hands on his hips in mock anger. Daisy looks away before she gets caught staring, and instead looks to her phone for a distraction. She flips through her photo album, gazing at candids from the small ceremony. Eventually she lands on the infamous picture of Daniel in an alley from literal decades ago.
“Looks like I could use a new dance partner.”
In an instant her phone is fumbling out of her hands, falling hard on the patio underfoot. Her face burns red with embarrassment as her brain tries to catch up to what he said. She blindly reaches for the phone while looking up at him.
 “Dance partner?”
And she wants to slap herself in the face for her lack of finesse.
Daniel leans down a bit, holding his hand out for her to take.
“Let me try that again. May I have this dance?”
And Daisy doesn’t think she’s ever felt a rush of butterflies quite like that before. No one has ever asked her to dance with them. There weren’t many school dances she actually went to, and all the boys she’s been with before...well dancing wasn’t their style, at least not the kind with soft music and romantic lighting. She’d had a lot of experience with thumping bass, dark rooms, and wandering hands.
She likes to pride herself on the growth she’s made, the woman she’s become. She wears her independence like a badge of honor, but in that moment staring at Sousa’s hand, she feels young and completely smitten.
Unprepared. Unprepared is what she is, but it can’t be that different from sparring, right? She’s nothing if not ready for a challenge.
Sousa takes the hand she places in his, and a large grin spreads across his face. It takes her breath away.
“I don’t exactly know how to do this,” she admits, embarrassed.
 “Do what? Dance? No way.”
Daisy nervously places her hand on his shoulder like she’d seen in the movies, while their fingers spread and squeeze into a firm hold with each other. He feels solid under her touch.
 “True story.”
“Well, we’ll just have to fix that. Just follow my feet. When I step back with one foot, follow it with your opposite. When I step to the side, just go with me. When I step forward, you step back.”
“So it is like fighting,” she mumbles mostly to herself.
 “Hmm?”
 “Nothing.”
And it’s not so bad after the first couple of awkward shuffles. Eventually they find a rhythm, and Daisy’s surprised to find she’s enjoying the moment. She stops staring at their feet long enough to relax and watch the people around them, her people. She’s lost in thought while staring at Mack and Yo-Yo swaying to the music, arms wrapped tightly together.
Sousa clears his throat. “It was a beautiful wedding.”
“Long overdue, and exactly what they deserve.”
 “You really love them.”
“More than anything. They’re my family.”
“You’re lucky to have them. And they’re lucky to have you.”
“I’m so sorry, Sousa. You must feel so alone,” she responds guiltily.
“I don’t feel so alone. Not right now. It’s hard to feel alone when I’m dancing with a real-life superhero.”
“If I’m a superhero, it’s only because of people like you.”
 “People like me?”
“People who save people like me, who follow us into the dark, and pull us back out. People who roll with the punches and have good hearts. Solid people.”
“If I didn’t know any better Director Johnson, I’d say you were still trying to sweet-talk me into the Co-Director position.”
 “That works too.”
Sousa looks at her skeptically before Daisy continues.
“So, what do you say? Ready to accept the position?”
With that, he is distracted. He chews on his lip in thought.
“You know I want nothing more than to help you, help SHIELD...It’s just hard for me to imagine being that useful in the 21st century. I’m so behind on modern technology and culture. I worry that I’ll be more of a burden.”
Daisy’s hackles raise at his blatant disregard for his worth.
“You think you’d be a burden? You’re a brilliant detective and strategist. You’re the guy that figured out Hydra’s involvement in SHIELD before anyone else, and was willing to give his life to stop them. You’re the guy that saved me from Nathaniel Malick. You’re the guy who took every time loop in stride and helped me break that time loop. You’re the guy that I…”
Daisy stops herself mid-sentence, almost saying something that she can’t take back. Something she’s too afraid to voice. Sousa looks down at her, hanging on her every word as she pauses. She shakes her head as if to clear it of her runaway thoughts. She decides to go with a much more palatable truth.
“You’re the guy I trust to have my back,” she finishes with a gulp.
For a moment she thinks she’s gone too far. He’s staring at her intently like he’s trying to crack a code or needle an interrogation suspect. After what feels like an eternity, he finally speaks up.
“Well, Director Johnson, how can I say no to that vote of confidence.”
She releases a nervous laugh. “You can’t. That’s the point,” she says with a satisfied smile.
“No, I suppose not,” he says with a twinkle in his eye that she has become increasingly fond of.
They settle into a comfortable silence as a new song comes on. Neither one of them make to leave the makeshift dance floor, so they drift into the opening tunes of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”
It’s soft and whimsical, and Daisy can’t help but let her mind wander to the man in front of her. He makes her feel things she doesn’t remember feeling before, not even with Lincoln. She’s hyper aware of how perfectly their hands fit together, and the gentle touch of his fingers on her waist. She has to physically stop herself from leaning forward and resting her head on his shoulder, to seek out the comfort she remembers from the barn. She wonders if he would follow her lips willingly just like he had in the time loop.
She thinks he might always look like he stepped out of a classic, black and white, Hollywood film.
As if he can read her thoughts, he pulls her a little closer, their arms wrapping around each other a bit more than what’s expected of two colleagues or platonic friends, but not quite as intimate as Mack and Yo-yo. She can’t stop the next words out of her mouth, because they’re simply true and pure.
 “This is nice.”
Because it is. It’s so nice, and she’s still struggling to accept that she deserves to feel something this good.
With a knowing smile, he hums in agreement before gently turning her out, guiding her into a slow spin. When she steps back into his arms, neither one hesitates in drawing in a bit closer. The world is spinning around them, but he’s her only focal point. His kind eyes with slight crinkles, the touch of gray around his temples, the mole just below his Adam’s apple...the softness of his lips.
 “You look beautiful tonight.”
And if that doesn’t take her breath away. When was the last time someone called her beautiful? She’s heard plenty of other adjectives: strong, stubborn, leader...destroyer. She wants to be all those things, and beautiful too.
“Thank you,” she responds quietly, not quite capable of meeting his eyes.
Then he says her name softly, prompting her to look up. The way he says, “Daisy,” instead of Agent Johnson, the way he’s asking for the answer to a question he doesn’t even know...she’s sure she knows the question.
It probably sounds a lot like, “Why does this feel so right? Why do your arms feel like home? Would it be alright if I kissed you?”
And her answer would be, “Because your favorite people are people like me. Because you’ve held me close before. Please, kiss me again.”
She never told him about the time loops. She never wanted to take away his free will. But right now she’s ready to tell him everything. She’s ready for a kiss that can never be erased.
An alarm starts blaring from her wristwatch, and the two of them jump apart. She can see several other members of their team all stop what they’re doing and look to their phones and smartwatches.
Daisy knows the night is over and duty calls. She’s surprised the whole wedding wasn’t interrupted, but she can’t help but feel angry nonetheless.
“Want to catch a ride with me?” she asks the suddenly sullen looking man out of time.
His face lights up with a smile, and he gestures to her to walk in front of him.
 “After you, Director.”
She can feel his eyes on her as they make their way to the tables where she picks up the keys to Lola along with her belongings. It doesn’t feel like he’s leering. It feels protective and comforting, just like someone who’s got her back.
Coulson hugs her tightly, and May wishes them luck as they head out to chase down their next mission. It should feel sad, leaving them behind, but it somehow feels right. They’re her family. They’ll always be there for her, but now it’s time for her to lead, and she has one hell of a right hand to help her out.
As they make their way to the parked car, red and shiny in the moonlight, Sousa can’t help but ask, “What’s an 0-8-4?”
He must have taken a moment to read the alert sent to his phone.
“It’s an object of unknown origin. Probably alien. Think you can handle it?” she asks, and she can’t help but feel a thrill of excitement for the unknown.
“I’ve traveled 70 years into the future, I don’t think much will surprise me now.”
At that, she laughs out loud as she slides into the car.
“You might be right. Alright, last chance. Sure you want in?”
“Positive. I’m where I need to be.”
The way he looks into her eyes when he says it lets her know he means so much more than just the next mission.
“That’s good to hear. Now buckle up, I just might surprise you now.”
“I’m counting on it,” he says with an excited grin.
Daisy can feel his stare, even as they rise above the trees, Lola taking flight. Without looking at him, she takes his hand in her own.
If her cheeks turn red and her heart beats harder, well at least Coulson’s not there to notice it.

Unconventional
A/N: Okay, so here’s the Eris-Nesta Friendship (but still Def Nessian) Fanfic that I’ve started drafting about a couple months ago, but went back to it just last week while cleaning up some of my file in folders. So anyway, I hope you guys like it. Thanks for those who have liked, reblogged and have shown interest on this fic. I appreciate it very much and you have no idea how much that means to me. :)
Chapter 1
When Beron Vanserra died, the crown was instantly passed to his eldest son Eris. How he died and to whose hands he had, was never questioned by anyone, any more. What everyone was concerned, and intrigued for that matter, was what’s in store for the future of Autumn Court under its new leadership.
The dead was honored, traditions was observed, the people of the Autumn court grieved, and High Lords from all other courts sympathized with them. But as they say, the end of an era, is a beginning of another. And so, after all the of mourning, a celebration is very looked forward to.
“Invitations! We’re all going to a Ball next week!” Elain came in bouncing towards her family and friends lounging on the townhouse’s foyer. Everyone looked up to her, and to her red head mate who carries a couple of boxes in his arms beside her.
“Already?! Just a week after his father’s death, and a gathering to celebrate his crown is already happening. Eager much, is he?” Mor snorted with a mix of amusement and irritation as she took one of the invitations and stroke its elaborate design.
“Well, He is already the High Lord of Autumn. He already became one, the moment Beron took his last breath. This is Coronation Ball is just for formality.” Rhysand pointed out as he sat beside his mate. Feyre was admiring the red and gold intricate swirls on the invitation as well. It is beautiful, and if the invitation alone looked this extravagant, she could only imagine what more the actual party would be.
Elain finished distributing the invitations and was now seated on the sofa beside Nesta and Cassian. She frowns on the inner circles’ reactions though. She expected them to be at least a little bit excited for the ball, since it’s been a while since they’ve attended one from a different court. She thought that the animosity between the group and Eris has already subsided. She won’t say it out loud, but she thinks it was a relief to all of them when the throne was transferred to him. They all knew that if not for Eris, some of the treaties between Autumn and Night court wouldn’t have pushed through. He has shown good faith these past years, so she’s not really sure what to feel on their reactions. Maybe she still hasn’t truly understood how deep does the scars run among these people.
Lucien opt not to comment and just rearrange the two boxes he was carrying by the table. He is used to these peoples’ dislike toward his brother, he doesn’t blame them, there’s history there. Still, he and his brother managed to establish a civil relationship for a while now. He wouldn’t say that they are now best brothers, but for now, at least they were on the same page on being at least friendly. At the beginning he bears it for their mother, but as time passes by, Eris managed to show them that he is a better male than his Father was.
“Well, Elain is right! It’s been a while since we all visited another court for a celebration. We have been busy these past few weeks. So, I, for one, is very excited to go party!” Cassian winked at Elain and it made her giggle, Nesta snort, and the rest of the gang shook head and roll their eyes.
“Speaking of. Nesta, this is for you, for the party.” Lucien handed the box to her.
“For me?” Nesta took the box unsure what to make of it.
“Yes, the other box is for Elain.”  Lucien confirmed and handed the other box to his mate.
“Hey! What about me?” Feyre protested with a pout from the other side of the room.
“Uhmm. Well, the one for Elain is actually from my mothers. A late birthday present since I’ve mentioned to her that last week was Elain’s birthday.” Lucien explained carefully, hoping not to upset his first Archeron friend. Meanwhile, Elain blushes on receiving that gift. She knows what’s in the box, she has already opened it when they were still on the Autumn court. It was a beautiful long dress, perfect for next week’s occasion.
“Uhhhh, so is this an advance birthday present for me too? From your mother? Because my birthday is still a couple of months from now, and I wasn’t aware she knows about it?” Nesta asked with raised brows. She’s confused on why Lucien’s mom would give her anything at all, what more, a present?
“Actually, it’s not exactly from mother. That – is from Eris, sort of. He told me to give you that.” Lucien said with a raised brow and a smirk. Elain bit her lip trying not to laugh. Not because of Nesta’s snort when Lucien said it was from Eris, but because of the rest of the Inner Circle’s reaction. They were all rendered speechless looking back and forth between Nesta and the gift box. Azriel and Amren with narrowed eyes. Rhysand with raised brows. Feyre and Mor probably didn’t even noticed their mouths agape. And Cassian, Nesta’s mate, who’s face went from shocked, then confused, then angry in just a matter of seconds, was frozen still.
Nesta, however, seems to be unaffected and probably amused on their reactions as well. She took the cover of the box, saw a card atop it and read it. What’s written made her snicker. And before she returned the card inside the box, Cassian grabbed it fast and read it aloud.
“Nesta.
Here’s a dress that I hope you’ll wear on my Ceremony. I know I can’t tell you what to do, I’ve learned my lessons. But, just because you’re from the Night court doesn’t mean you’ll wear black and white only. Or Gray like you usually do. Really, you should spice up your wardrobe a little, will you?
Eris.”
The letter sounds teasing enough that they can’t help but wonder how close Eris and Nesta have really become. And why the heck they didn’t know about it. Well except Elain and Lucien.
Cassian’s nostrils flared, and crumpled the piece of paper with Eris note. He was about to say something, when Nesta punched his arm, not that hard really, just to make him stop seething.
“Will you stop being territorial. Gods! It’s just a note!” Nesta rolled her eyes at his mate.
“Sweetheart, this...” he raised the crumpled notes towards Nesta. “…is just a note. “But that—”  he point his fingers towards the dress that’s still neatly folded inside the gift box. “--is not! Why the heck is Eris giving you a dress? And since when are you two friends? Why did I not know this? Wha—” He wasn’t able to finish his blubbering. Nesta put a finger on his lips to shut him up and answers his questions calmly.
“One, he’s giving me a dress because he wants to--- for some reason. Two, I can’t remember exactly when we started to get along, but it’s not like it happened the instant I have visited Autumn court as an Emissary. And three, well… I don’t know why you didn’t know. I guess it just never came up. It’s not like we talk about him that much. Do you want to talk about him?” Nesta finished her statement coolly and with a raised brow towards Cassian.
“No.” He grumbled, he’s annoyed and mad. Too many questions running through his mind.
“I do!” Feyre answered back. “I want to know how you are friends. I mean, you go to other courts too, but it’s not like you have close friends from every courts?” she said and then crossed her arms. She can’t believe her sister is actually friends with Eris. And they must be closer than just the casual acquaintances, because he was literally giving her gifts.
Nesta tilted her head towards Feyre and answered her evenly. “And how are you so sure I don’t?” She crossed her arms too and face her younger sister. Like a challenge. The others kept quiet eyeing the two having a staring match.
Then Nesta sighed and leaned back towards Cassian’s arms. “I don’t get why you’re all bothered about this. I can have friends outside this circle and this court, you know? Like you do.”
“We never said you can’t or don’t.” Rhysand clarified.
“Of course. Of course.  I guess it just caught us off guard. We didn’t know.” Feyre let it go and leaned back towards her mate as well. “But you do?!” she then turned her attention to her other sister. Pointing out that among all of them, she isn’t surprise with this.
Elain nods her confirmation. “Well, keep in mind that I usually used to accompany Nesta if she has to go do her work in Autumn, and she chaperoned whenever I go there to meet Lucien there, back then. So, sometimes it’s the four of us who spend time together.” She continued and then shrugged it off.
“Yes, and I’m polite enough to leave them and give the two of them some time alone.” Nesta nods her head pointing to Elain and Lucien. “Because I may be overprotective, but I’m not going to hinder on what makes them… getting to know each other better.” She gave them both a soft smile which the couple returned happily.
“But my brother is stubborn enough as well and decides to not leave Nesta’s side, when she gives us space. You know, Eris might not be the sharpest knife in the bunch, but he knows what he’s saying when it comes to Court Trades and Treaties. And to be honest, when I saw their clash of words on that topic for the first time, I immediately thought that it’s either they’ll kill each other eventually, or miraculously be the best of friends in the end. Well, I guess miracles do happen.” Lucien finished and laughed at that. Elain laughed with him, she thought of that too. Nesta just wave off the statement but that little smirk was undeniably on her face.
“I actually agree with that.” Amren spoke for the first time since the discussion started. “Eris is…cunning and dangerous, yes. But he’s also clever and have the set of skills one leader must have. Just like some one we all know.” She raised a brow and a sly smile towards Nesta. “Maybe that’s why they get along. Besides, whether we all admit it or not. We are glad it was him that have inherited that crown among the Vanserras. We all know it was what’s best for the Autumn court.” She said then finished the wine she was holding.
Cassian was openly glaring at Amren, which the other felt but totally ignored, because how could she actually defend that bastard? However, he can’t say anything else to contradict her statement though, because he knew it was the truth. And everyone seems to think the same because there was a quiet stillness after Amren said her piece.
“Anyway, count me in! Because it will definitely be one heck of a party.” Amren smirked and pointed her wine glass towards Lucien and Elain’s position, her statement seems to finished the conversation.

To Love Again
Tumblr media
A/N: Dearest magical tumblr friends, it’s me again, bringing you yet again another little piece of writing nobody asked for. Here I was, thinking I’d only write Draco x reader inserts (exhibits A and B). But I got this idea a couple of days ago and I couldn’t stop until I wrote it. I haven’t read a lot of Wolfstar (anyone care to explain why this ship is called like this?) fanfics, but I hope I have done a decent job here and you can enjoy it. Also, I don’t really know how the mechanics of it all work just yet, but if you have any suggestions for me to write (like a ship, a reader insert, or just any advice to make my writing less sucky), just send me a message and I’ll try to give it a go <3
Details:
Sirius x Remus (Wolfstar?)
Word count: 2215 (oops!)
Summary: Remus and Sirius survived the war and now, scarred and scared, are trying to figure out how to deal with their feelings for each other.
Disclaimers: A bit of internalized homophobia. One cuss word. Also, the portrayal of Remus’ internal conflict might be laughable. Oh well, hopefully I’ll learn.
For a few months now, Remus found himself waiting eagerly for Friday nights. He’d cradle his little boy in his arms, telling him stories until his hair turned blue and his breathing slowed down. He’d tuck him in bed, close the door, careful to leave it ajar, and wait by the fire until Sirius knocked on his door.
Things had been a little (read very) awkward between them before and during the war. It had taken them a while to even carry a normal conversation that didn’t end up in deafening silence. Remus, who for twelve years had to remind himself every day that his best friend, his love, had betrayed them, was a little apprehensive at first. Even after they proved his innocence, he found himself doubting, longing for what could’ve been instead of allowing himself to live his present. He had grown accustomed to playing the part of the lone wolf. After all, for a long time he had seen himself alone, rejected and betrayed. When he felt ready to let go, he found a very different person than the one he had loved back in his Hogwarts’ days.
Roughened and deteriorated by the dozen years of solitary confinement, Sirius had also changed. He was a fiery, hungry creature. Starved of love, friendship and freedom. Often than not, he lived in his memories. He dreamed about the past and wanted it back, every single bit of it. He wanted Lily’s playful eyerolls and James’ cackling as he played with tiny little Harry. He wanted the laughter when he’d say he’d be the world’s best dogfather. He wanted the get togethers with Andromeda and Ted and their sweet little daughter. He wanted to confide in Peter again, not think of him as the man who had ruined their lives. He wanted Remus – the young Remus – back. The man he had fallen in love with, who wore his ring proudly as they announced they’d get married eventually. Disappointed by reality, Sirius was rough and volatile. Sometimes he wouldn’t know how to act with people around him, not even his beloved Remus, who looked older and more defeated than he ought to be. He no longer wore his ring.
And just when it seemed that they were both healing, that they could start building something again, Nymphadora appeared on the picture. The sweet little girl from the Sunday get togethers with the Tonkses, now a brave Auror, snatched his love away from him. She had brought warmth in Remus’ heart, something Sirius had failed to do. She made him feel loved and wanted. And Remus loved and wanted her in return. As the other members of the Order exclaimed who cute of a couple they were, Sirius said absolutely nothing. He didn’t even dare to mention his ring, much less his feelings again. And he stood on the first row, solemnly, as Remus put a different ring on her finger, imagining it was him in her place. He was also there when she gave birth to a tiny little boy who, much to his father’s relief, wasn’t a werewolf. He was also there when his own not so tiny little Harry had been named godfather to the baby boy, Teddy Remus Lupin, metamorphmagus son of his werewolf.
He had been there as Remus cradled Nymphadora’s limp body in his arms, close to his chest. He was crying and sobbing because his love had been murdered. It was him – Sirius – who had avenged her death. In the most chaotic turn of events, she had been murdered by his cousin, Bellatrix Lestrange. And as the dark bitch witch died with the flick of his wand, he knew that nothing he could do would ever bring his love’s love back. He felt useless, even as the people around him celebrated Voldemort’s second fall.
They had both survived. Scarred and grieving, but they had both survived.
Three years after the war, Remus had taken yet again the position as DADA teacher in Hogwarts. Sirius himself had taken the Transfiguration department and, much to Headmistress McGonagall’s chagrin, had turned it on its head. Students loved him. It did help that his teaching approach involved turning into a dog half of the times. Thanks to him, students were more motivated than ever to learn how to be animagi. He didn’t think he’d enjoy it as much as he did.
Being so close to Remus and Teddy was also a big plus. The first year after the war was rough and more than just a little awkward. Their relationship had suffered greatly and they didn’t know where they stood. The unsaid agreement was that they wanted each other’s company. As Remus learned how to be a good father to baby Teddy, he had hardly any time left to think about something else. After the second anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts flew by, Remus and Sirius found themselves increasingly acknowledging their feelings for each other. Even if the feelings were not exactly as in their memories, the affection manifested itself in shy compliments and gifts, memories, some hand holding here and there. And, as of lately, cuddling sessions on Friday nights.
They hardly ever spoke directly of the matter. Not for a lack of trying, at least on Sirius’ part. But Nymphadora still loomed over Remus’ heart and whenever they even tried to bring it up, Remus would recoil and they would avoid each other for weeks. Today, though, Sirius was determined to change that. He wanted Remus to be his boyfriend. He wanted the three of them to be a family. And he would never replace his first cousin once removed, but he felt he couldn’t spend the next three years or more waiting without no chance of a change.
As he knocked on Remus’ door, he took a deep breath. He was set on not giving in, no cuddles or kisses until the situation was sorted. Then Remus opened the door and engulfed him in a hug he just couldn’t resist. He hugged back and they moved towards the couch in front of the fire. For a while, they sat there, huddled together, in a silence they both felt a bit uneasy.
“What’s got your wand in a knot, Sirius?” Remus asked, sitting up a little bit straighter to look at him in the eyes.
“You,” he answered a bit more harshly than he would have liked.
Remus shot him a worried glance. “Why?”
“I…what is this?” Sirius asked, motioning with his finger the (very short) space between them.
“What do you mean?”
“You know what I mean,” he answered.
Remus looked away and said nothing. If the silence that engulfed them was deafening.
“You’re allowed to move on, Moony”, Sirius added softly.
Remus furrowed his brow in response. Apart from the love he had for Dora, he felt a sense of duty to her. Old, poor and ugly, she had loved him for who he was. They had gotten married. She had given birth to their son during the war. And she had lost her life for a better world for their son. She was gone for a little over three years and there he was, cuddling and kissing with her cousin, his first love.
“You’re allowed to love again!” Sirius exclaimed, a bit exasperated now.
“Not you!” Remus countered, which left Sirius a bit taken aback.
“Why?” he asked, unable to conceal the resentment in his voice.
“Because you’re…” Remus looked at him from head to toe.
“Is it because I’m a man? Would it be any different if my name was, say, Serena?” he barked.
Remus couldn’t lie to Sirius; he was, indeed, conflicted. What would people think? After marrying a woman much younger than him and having a child together, a relationship with a man? During his schooldays, Sirius had helped him come to terms with his pansexuality, just like his friends had helped him accept his lycanthropy. But still, after so many years, he still shamed himself for both. What would Andromeda say? Him, dating her first cousin. Raising her grandson together. They were much too old for that. Remus couldn’t look at Sirius in the eye.
“You’re Nymphadora’s cousin. You are my son’s cousin!”
“I am Nymphadora’s first cousin once removed. And it doesn’t matter. Moony, what we had was –“
“A phase,” Remus muttered under his breath. It seemed as though he was trying to convince himself as well as Sirius.
“Don’t you dare to say it was a phase, Remus John Lupin. I proposed to you. We…we even talked about adopting. We dreamed about a life together before all of this happened,” Sirius said, his eyes pooling with tears.
“That was a very long time ago, Padfoot,” he said, afflicted by his own words.
“Look at me in the eyes and tell me you don’t feel anything for me,” he countered, taking Remus’ chin in his hand and motioning him to look his way.
“Sirius…”
“What?” Sirius moved closer to Remus, still holding his chin delicately. Sirius was crying now.
“Tell me you don’t love me anymore. Tell me you don’t want me by your side and I’ll leave. I’ll leave immediately. I swear. But don’t make me wait any longer. Don’t made us both suffer anymore under the weight of your prejudices against yourself,” Sirius almost pleaded.
“Please,” Remus said in a very weak voice, “please just let me go”.
Remus was also crying now.  The only man he had ever been with was Sirius. He had been his first everything: first kiss, first time, first love. They had discovered each other together. He had dreamed of a life with Sirius. The children, the house, absolutely everything.  They complemented each other in ways he had never managed to find in someone else. And he would be lying if he said he wasn’t still in love with him. For as much love he held in his heart for Dora, he had never stopped feeling absolutely everything for his best friend.
Sirius stood up to leave. He wiped away the tears and opened the door, not looking back. As he walked down the corridor to his own quarters, he busied his mind with thinking the exact words he’d write in his resignation letter to Headmistress McGonagall. He didn’t want to process what had just happened. He didn’t want to feel the emptiness in his heart, the feeling that his heart was irremediably shattered. Sirius was so distracted he didn’t hear someone calling his name.
Remus had seen Sirius leave the room. It all felt so definitive that it finally dawned on him: he couldn’t let Sirius go. He was his love. Dora would always be in his heart, in his mind, in his memories, in the son they had together. But Sirius was here. They had a second chance to be happy and he couldn’t waste it anymore.
It was now or never. He ran after his love, calling his name. He saw Sirius, standing in the middle of the hallway and practically ignoring him as he called him. Remus felt his heart break a little over the thought that maybe he had already given up, but he had to be determined now, just as Sirius had been a while ago.
Remus reached Sirius, who kept walking at a very slow pace and wiping away his tears. He tried talking to him, to no avail. So, he resorted to more un-Remus like tactics; he yanked Sirius by the arm and made him turn around. Sirius was taken aback; Remus looked like he had run a marathon. He scanned his lover’s expression for a second, trying to find any clue to his uncharacteristic action, when Remus attacked him with his lips. Sirius gladly complied, giving in to a fiery, hungry kiss that tasted of need and want and love. They were both panting as they pulled away.
Sirius was about to say something, but Remus, still out of character, didn’t let him.
“I love you, Sirius Orion Black. I want you. I want to be with you, forever. I want us to be a family. I’m sorry I have hurt you with my doubts. I was afraid. I still am. Oh, Merlin! But I can’t lose you again. I really…I really don’t know what else to say. Give me another chance, please?” he said impetuously, not even bothering in making sense anymore.
Sirius smiled widely and wiped away a treacherous tear. “I love you too, Moony. I have never stopped loving you”.
They kissed again. This time it was soft and tender. They hugged for what seemed like an eternity and then walked together, hand in hand, to Remus’ quarters.
After a while of cuddling, kisses and promises by the fire, Remus stood up and walked towards an old cabinet on the other side of the room. He rummaged through it for a while, until he found what he was looking for. He walked back and sat next to Sirius, their knees touching just slightly. Sirius distinguished a little velvety box and felt a smile playing on his lips as Remus opened it. There it was, Sirius’ ring, immaculate as ever.
As he put it on Remus’ finger, they both felt whole and happy again.

Not to Brag - N. Horan Imagine (College AU)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
another combined request bc i felt like a college!niall au was necessary, enjoy! :)))
Tumblr media
The wooden door to the lecture hall was near to making a loud bang against the wall by how forcefully the boy pushed it open. He was red and panting from the five-minute sprint he had taken on from his dorm building. Niall did not imagine his first class of his first day at university would obligate him to make entrances like this, but at least he was building his presence on campus.
“Ah, Mr. Horan.” The way his name sounded on the professor’s tongue, as though it were a pill being swallowed dry, did not sit well in Niall’s stomach. That might have also been due to his skipped breakfast, missed bathroom break, and absent change into clothing more acceptable than sweatpants and an old t-shirt. “Looks as though you’ve been, what’s the expression? Ah yes, saved by the bell.” Niall shuffled further into the classroom, eyes peering around the room for his roommate or one of the frat house occupants whom he had the honor of meeting a week or two before the beginning of classes.
“It’s always a shame to state the obvious to my students, but if you’re the last student to arrive in a freshman year core class, seating options are obviously going to be limited.” His tone remained flat, yet stern as his eyes stayed sharp on Niall. The boy would have never dreamed he would be the first in the throng of students that was his English 101 class to measle himself on his teacher’s bad side. But that’s how things were looking as he muttered a half-sincere apology beneath his breath and shuffled his way to the closest empty seat he could find.
From what it looked like, it seemed to be the only empty seat. Niall’s eyes ran across all four walls of the room, every single row in front of him and behind him. His blue eyes landed on a mess of curly locks, and a pair of greens which looked apologetic for the lack of seating around him. How could he blame Harry, though? Everybody loved him and he’s been there for a shorter time than Niall had. He turned his gaze away, and rather to his side, where he met a pair of eyes uncanny to Harry’s. They looked so similar Niall would have believed the boy teleported seats, until he took in the dark-coated lashes and pink eyeshadow surrounding the emeralds.
“Sorry,” the girl whispered beneath the professor’s announcement of a syllabus about to be handed out. “Do you have a pen I could borrow?” Niall blinked for a moment and nodded lightly, reaching for his backpack. At least he had not forgotten that.
“It’s the first day and you don’t even have a pen?” The words fell out before he could choke them down. He inwardly scolded himself as he handed her the utensil. He must have had a curse for making friends because what he just aid was nowhere near how proper introductions were supposed to go. Rather than an offended response or water bottle to the cranium, he received a scoff.
“It’s your first day and you managed to get in class by a landslide. I’m surprised he even let you sit down. He does not seem like the kind to mess around with.” The girl murmurs, before a tall figure was shadowed over her desk, wearing raised brows and a threatening smirk.
“Impressive observation, Y/N. Comprehension is a major part of my class so I am sure you will find it less than difficult.” He lays a sheet on both your desk and Niall’s. The girl’s eyes were squinted shut, cheeks red with embarrassment while Niall remained stoic, afraid to open his mouth and actually be booted from his seat in the class. The professor distributed papers to the last final rows, leaving the two students to release held breaths and face one another again. A few moments later, though, the anxiety turned to the two classmates trying to hold back their snickers.
“Looks like we’ve both got a spot on our professor’s hit list, Y/N.” His use of her name startles the both of them, she almost forgot through her embarrassment that the professor did her the favor of announcing it to the class. Nevertheless, the girl laughed.
“If that’s true than you’re going first, Horan.” The conversation stopped there, despite Niall’s want for her to continue speaking. He liked hearing her say his last name much better than the man in the front, walking them through a sheet of paper. Towards the middle of the professor’s droning speech, the sound of paper being torn drew Niall’s attention away from his syllabus and to Y/N, who was focused with scribbling something on the torn corner of the paper. A few seconds later, the result was passed to Niall, who let his eyes scan over the message a couple times.
Want to meet up at lunch?
Niall used his other pen and scrawled a reply hastily.
Sure, for what?
A few more seconds, and the paper was back in his vision.
To guess how professor hitlist is gonna take us out
Niall looked up, sending the girl a nod. Y/N felt her stomach doing somersaults but would not admit the rowdy celebration her insides were facing. Her heart was pumping, her brain was screaming, and she swore she felt her tummy begin to rumble in anticipation.
Their conversation continued at the college’s cafeteria but did not conclude. Afterward, they took a stroll through the campus’s courtyard, mostly admiring the greenery, while sneakily admiring each other. Niall’s tell was how his own smile grew when Y/N’s did. For what reason? Niall had no clue. Y/N would never admit it was his eyes lighting up that cued her teeth to bare, as the boy talked with ceaseless passion over his choice major: Music. He apologized at least three times during his gabbing but continued without further hesitation when you encouraged him to carry on or asked more questions about it.
“How about you?” He asks you upon conclusion of his talk of the major.
“Well, not to brag but,” the start of her bold sentence had Niall entranced immediately, “I can play a mean tune on the triangle.” Almost immediately after her joke, Y/N was sputtering with laughter. Niall joins her, surprised by the fact he is not let down by this information. He always pictured his dream girl to be a bit more musically involved.
“My brother was always more musically-inclined in the family. Not to say that I don’t love music, because I do. He was just always the one who wanted to take piano lessons and choose choir and band over debate or yearbook.”
“So what about you? What major did you choose?” Niall did not detest Y/N talking about her family. From how she spoke of her brother, it sounded like she respected him and held him close in her heart. But Niall wants to know about her. And who knows? Maybe Niall and Y/N’s brother could be good friends, if they ever met that is.
“Engineering. Which is weird, considering nobody in my family was ever the “math whiz.” It was good I was though; my mom was thankful she wouldn’t have to tutor Harry when he needed help. She was probably the worst at math out of all of us.” Y/N giggles, reminiscing in the many times she even had to help her own mother with fractions in the kitchen each time the woman tried cooking.
“What about your dad?” A silence followed Niall’s question, and he’d never wanted a smile to be put back so badly on a person’s face after Y/N’s fell. A few moments later, the girl could only muster a bitterly awkward laugh and small “no.”
“I’m sor—”
“No,” she cut him off, “God, don’t apologize that’s so awkward. I’m fine. It happened, I grieved and cried and went through all the stages of it. And it was shitty, but I’m here now and I’m better than I was so…” Niall only nodded, the stroll becoming slower as the silence resumed.
“What about your family? Do they live here, or—" Her voice perked up and was back to how it was a few moments ago. Niall was thankful for this, afraid he had depleted the conversation with his question.
“Oh, no. They’re back in Ireland.” He jutted a thumb behind his shoulder, as though his home was something he left behind. In this case, that assumption could be applicable. Y/N chose not to delve further into that thought.
“Ireland! That’s where you’re from. I was trying to pinpoint the accent…and I almost said Scottish.” Y/N chortled at her own obtuse statement.
“Good thing ya didn’t. I would’ve been off—”
“Y/N! Hey!” The two looked away from one another to spot a figure running up to them from a distance. He grew taller with each thumping step on the grass. “I want to—oh hey, Niall. What’s up?”
“Wait—you guys know each other?” Y/N furrows her eyebrows, glancing between the two boys. “How?”
“Niall’s roommate introduced us awhile back. Turns out we’re both majoring in music. How did you two meet?”
“We sat together in English…” Y/N trailed off, worry overcoming her. Harry was very particular over her, and for the most part, was unpredictable about it. Once, in fourth grade, Y/N broke her legs from a plummet off of the playground’s monkey bars and didn’t earn a blink from her brother. The next day, when a boy helped her carry her books to class, Harry saw red and was borderline screaming at the kid. Needless to say, any chance she had with Niall disappeared once acknowledging the boys’ friendship.
“I had no clue you two knew each other. When did you two meet?” In an instant, the siblings’ laughter floated around a befuddled Niall, Harry’s chuckled a little more prominent. Y/N’s seemed quieter, a bit more reserved than they were when she and Niall were talking.
“I met this one 18 years ago in the hospital and haven’t stopped irritating her since.” Harry acted proud stating this while slinging his arm around the girl. Niall began to connect the dots, seeing them side-by-side. Their eyes, the dark curls matted to both of their heads…
“So you two are—”
“Twins,” Y/N rolls her eyes. “I know I can’t believe it either. It’s obvious I was born with all the good looks; Lord knows what happened to him.”
Niall gulps, and would not disagree with her for a moment on that statement. As he was still trying to process these thoughts, one big one jumped out at him. Where did his chance of getting Y/N to go out with him stand now? One of his new best friends just so happened to be the sister of his new friend who he now wanted to be more than a friend. A lot more. While thinking of how to approach this, Y/N asked Harry what she needed him for.
“I was wondering if you were coming to the party at the house this weekend. We’re rushing so you can make friends with all the cute new girls and talk me up around them.” Y/N rolled her eyes at Harry’s ludicrous attempt to get in some innocent girl’s pants.
“Oh, you should come too, lad! There’s going to be loads of girls there.” Even without trying, Harry was somehow deterring Niall from Y/N’s radar and vice versa. Niall’s mouth kept closing and opening, failing to let a word pass him. A distant shout of Harry’s name was heard by the three. Harry put a hand on Niall’s shoulder, pointing a finger at him.
“I’ll take that as a yes. See ya there, mate!” Harry ran off just as quickly as he appeared to go conversate with others in the courtyard.
“You don’t have to go if you don’t want to. Harry just wants to make everyone feel welcome…he’s like that.” Y/N rolled her eyes.
“Are you going?” Niall asks. Y/N shrugs, before nodding.
“Then I’ll go.”
“Niall, you don’t have to—”
“I know, but I can be a pretty good wingman, too. I did it for own brother all the time back home. Plus,” he slung his arm around your shoulder, similar to how Harry did and pulled you close to his side.
“Would your brother like to see you get hit on by frat guys all night?”
“Are you suggesting we go together?” Y/N crosses her arms and peers up at the cheeky grin Niall was sending her.
“I mean, not to brag but…” Niall somehow pulls her even closer, until one of her hands is being planted on his chest, “I can be a pretty good date.”
hope you all found this cute! feel free to check out my masterlist for more!

Poe took you to your “spot” by the lake. You sat between his arms, back pressed to his chest, head resting just underneath his chin. His fingers massaged soft, comforting patterns into your skin. It was hard to believe that not even thirty minutes ago everyone had been fearing for their lives.
You much preferred being here by the lake than back on base with all the celebration; it calmed your nerves. Being with Poe calmed your nerves. He was incredibly intuitive when it came to you; he knew you were anxious, he knew your panic attacks had surfaced during the battle, and he knew that you needed to be away from people to calm down.
“Feel better?” Poe asked, brushing his lips against your hair.
“I do,” you answered, leaning into his touch.
His arms tightened around your waist. Poe was glad that for now you were at peace, but he knew the road ahead was going to be difficult. There was no way the First Order was going to leave the Resistance alone; they’d becoming for them at D’Qar and that meant an evacuation was eminent. Already Poe was planning on sending Black Squadron out on a recruitment mission--he wanted to go with them but he was worried about leaving you behind for that long.
Noticing that he had gotten quiet, you turned your face towards his. “Poe? Are you alright? You got quiet on me.”
Poe smiled, affectionately. “Lot on my mind, sweetheart. Mainly keeping the Resistance--keeping you safe.”
“Are we going to have to evacuate?”
“I’m afraid so; the First Order knows where we are.”
“What are we going to do now without the Republic?”
“Keep going. If we stop--they win.”
You swallowed, anxiously. There had never been much hope on your home world that the Republic was going to help--that was why you and your friends that escaped there had joined the Resistance. “Do you think we have a chance?”
He sighed, heavily. “I have to believe we have a chance, otherwise, everyone is going to start to lose hope. Once hope is gone--they’ve defeated us.” Gently his lips passed over you temple. “I hate to break up this relaxing moment, but I probably should head back to base--check on Finn.”
It made your heart melt that he was so incredibly caring, even for someone that he had just met a few days ago. You shifted and turned to face him, pressing your lips to his in a tender kiss. “I should probably get to work on helping repair some ships anyways. Do you think BeeBee needs to be checked out again?”
Poe grinned. “Probably not, but if you ask him, he’ll say yes. He can’t say no to you, sweetheart.”
“Kind of like his master.”
“I’d argue with you--but it’s true.”
You laughed as he helped you to your feet and you walked hand in hand back to the base. It had quieted down considerably since you’d ventured out to the lake. Everyone seemed to know that the First Order was coming for them and they were going to have to devise an evacuation plan.
Poe was pulled away for a meeting before he could go check on Finn, so you promised him you’d do it for him.  He gave your hand a squeeze and a grateful look before going to join the rest of the Resistance leaders in Leia’s office. You turned your attention to the medical bay.
Finn was not the only patient, but he was the one that was hooked up to the most machines. He was still unconscious and when Doctor Kalonia saw you, she smiled. “Did Commander Dameron send you?”
“He wanted to make sure Finn was alright,” you said, softly.
“Well, Finn is lucky,” Kalonia replied, “but he’ll be fine.”
A good prognosis was going to make Poe happy; you thanked Kalonia for the update and were about to leave when a young girl caught your eye. You had seen her on the tarmac after the fleet had arrived back on base. She looked anxious, like she had never been around people like this before and you felt a little bit of a kinship with her--you’d felt out of place when first arriving here as well.
Until BB-8 had rolled into your shop one afternoon, followed by Poe. You looked to see if Kalonia was still standing there but she had moved on. Cautiously you crossed the medical bay and stopped in front of the girl. “Hi. You’re new here, right? I”m Y/N.”
She swallowed, anxiously as her brown eyes took you in. “Rey.”
You smiled. “Your Finn’s friend. He told us about you.”
“Us?”
“Poe and I.”
Rey’s eyes flickered with recognization. “Poe? He’s the pilot; BeeBee-Ate’s master. Finn told us that he died in a crash.”
You smiled, whimsically. “Poe is like a loth cat--he has nine lives apparently. He survived the crash and a kind blarina gave him a ride home to Yavin where he was able to retrieve his x-wing and return to base. Have you had anything to eat?”
She shook her head and chewed on her lower lip. “I just...I don’t want to leave Finn. He was the first person that ever showed they cared about me. I still can’t believe they came back for me. I was prepared to steal a fighter and fly myself out of there.”
“What about your family?”
“Don’t know where they are. They left me on Jakku.”
“Just...left you there...as a child?”
“Yes. Han, Chewie, and Finn were the closest thing I’ve had to a family.”
Holding your hand out to her, you smiled again. You knew that General Organa and Chewie were grieving the loss of Han Solo, but it appeared so wasn’t Rey.
Rey hesitated at first but then took your hand. You helped her to her feet and silently reassured her that she had friends here amongst the Resistance.
----
Poe wasn’t sure where you had gone too. He went looking for you in your shop after his meeting but found it empty. His search on the tarmac turned up empty as well. He wasn’t alarmed; you were incredibly good at hiding when you didn’t want to be found.
BB-8 suggested that you were still in the medical bay looking after Finn, and Poe, along with his droid, proceeded there. You were sitting with the girl--Rey--Leia had mentioned her name in the meeting; she was Force sensitive, which was why Kylo Ren was interested in her.
You were chatting with her and she was smiling, looking more at east than when he’d first seen her on the tarmac. Poe’s heart burst with so much love for you--he knew how hard it was for you to make friends, how shy you were, how insecure you could be around strangers--and here you were befriending a young woman who perhaps needed a friend more than anyone else in the galaxy.
Something caught BB-8′s attention and he was zooming off, leaving Poe standing just outside the medical bay. You must have heard BB-8 because you had glanced up and were smiling at him.
Poe was just about to step into the medical bay and join you when someone called his name. Turning he saw Snap. “Skywalker’s droid woke up,” the other pilot told him.
“Wait? What?” Poe questioned, taking off after Snap.
“His old astromech. He woke up. Says he has something to show us.”
“Do you think it’s the rest of the map?”
“Hope so.”
They had been searching for the map for a whole year. Poe prayed that R2-D2 had the rest of the map in his storage banks and they could piece it together with the piece that BB-8 was carrying around. Poe couldn’t believe their luck when this actually happened. Happy smiles burst forth through the command center and he caught your eyes.
You and Rey had seen him run off and followed. Poe locked eyes with you and deepened his smile. This map was the hope he had been talking about down by the lake. Now, they just had to decide who was going to go find Luke Skywalker.
If Han had still be alive, surely Leia would have suggested that he and Chewie go--but that was no longer an option thanks to Kylo Ren. There were a few murmurs that Black Squadron should go, after all they had been the ones placing themselves in danger to get the map.
Poe hated the fear that flash through your eyes at the thought of him being away again. Besides, he wasn’t sure he was the best one to go. Even though Luke had been friends with his parents, Poe had only met him a couple of times and he’d been small. He was a pretty smooth talker but he wasn’t convinced that even his smooth talking could bring Luke back.
“What about me?” Rey asked, sheepishly.
“Are you sure you’re up for it?” Leia inquired.
“I know how to fly the Falcon; I could take Chewie and Artoo with me.”
“Rey, you don’t owe the Resistance anything.”
She narrowed her eyes and nodded her head. “I understand that, but I want to help. The Resistance... you are the only people in my life that have shown me any form of kindness.”
Leia sighed and it was decided; the next morning Rey was going to leave with Chewie and Artoo to go find Luke.
-----
“Do you think they’ll find him?”
Poe sipped his caf the next morning at breakfast. He’d gotten very little sleep the night before, his mind consumed with thoughts about the upcoming evacuation, the First Order, and keeping you safe. “If that map is accurate--they’’l find him.”
You pushed your breakfast around on your tray. “What if Master Skywalker doesn’t want to come back? What if he doesn’t want to help? Rey said that Captain Solo mentioned Master Skywalker felt guilty, that he blamed himself.”
“Rather unfair to blame the choices Kylo Ren made on himself if you ask me.”
“But what if he doesn’t want to come back? You didn’t answer.”
Finishing his caf, Poe pulled you to your feet and the two of you headed towards the tarmac to see the Falcon off. Poe brought his hand to your lips and brushed a kiss across your knuckles. “Don’t worry. He’ll come back.”
Sometimes you hated how hopeful Poe was. You wished you could think that way, but even when you tried, you saw your home world. “I hope he can help Rey--she told me that. she thinks she’s force sensitive. But she’s so scared of it, Poe. She doesn’t want to become Kylo Ren.”
Poe sighed. He felt sad whenever he heard about Rey and her story. He’d grown up with loving parents, and even though his mom had died when he was eight, he never doubted she loved him. Poe had never been looking for a place to belong--he’d always had one. No wonder you had become friends with Rey--you probably felt a connection. to her having lost your homeward and your parents.
He hung back while you and BB-8 said good-bye to Rey, then Poe, along with most of the Resistance watched as the Millenium Falcon took off to complete the quest that Black Squadron had started--to find Luke Skywalker.

Season 1 Episode 1 The Bane of Rudyard
It's the worst day of Rudyard's life when new competitor Eric Chapman arrives on Piffling and becomes an immediate sensation.
Written by David K. Barnes
EPISODE ONE: THE BANE OF RUDYARD
[narration from Madeleine]
Now, Hidden in the English Channel is an island called Piffling. On the island is a village - Piffling Vale - and the village has a square, and the square has this lovely little antique shop but opposite the antique shop is a funeral home which is where much of this chronicle will be set, I’m afraid. You see, I want to tell you all about a man named Rudyard Funn. He owns the funeral parlour, he’s responsible for all the funerals in Piffling Vale and today, he experienced what was undoubtedly the worst day of his life. Which was probably long overdue.
 [funky intro music]
REV: We gather here today to celebrate the life of Stanley Carmichael, who was taken from us only five days ago
 He continues
[narration] It all began with a funeral, the antique dealer Stanley Carmichael, whose shop was immediately opposite Rudyard’s premises, had led a life of peace and ordered calm of eighty nine years… and had subsequently crushed to death by a granite sundial.
REV: I confess I never actually bought anything from him. His prices have been quite steep actually, though I did have my eye on that sundial. I might still be tempted if it came down in price, hint hint. (laughs)
[narration] Stanley’s relatives pricked up their ears at the prospect of getting something for that granite sundial. Whilst nearby, his eyes sunken, his skin pale and drawn: stood Rudyard, looking at his watch and wishing strongly that the reverend wasn't an agnostic.
REV: … and undoubtedly looking down at us from his place with God. Unless you don't believe in that sort of thing - which I won’t hold against you, mind you God probably will. Unless he doesn’t exist, in which case he won’t even have anything to complain about, really.
RUDYARD: (clears throat) Reverend.
REV: Sorry, did somebody say -
RUDYARD: Reverend. REV: Oh hello Rudyard- RUDYARD: You’re rambling. REV: Sorry? RUDYARD: You’re rambling again REV: Oh God, am I?
RUDYARD: Yes! REV: I’m so sorry, where was I? RUDYARD: His spirit looking down at us from his place- REV: OH! From his place with God, yes, yes, thank you, right, right, I’ve err Looking down at us from his place with umm… no. No, actually, I don't suppose we could have a quick show of hands? RUDYARD: No! No! Now come on! REV: If you believe in God, could you put your hands up, can we all do that? Put your hands up if you believe, ughh right, right err bout half. Um so! Ah yeah. What I might do is do the service twice- RUDYARD: We don't have time!
REV: Once with God in it and the other without. RUDYARD: No! We’re overrunning. REV: Oh! But I thought I might read out a few psalms RUDYARD: Which ones? REV: I don’t mind, I'll be happy to take requests if anyone’s got any favourites? RUDYARD: Nononono. We’re sixteen minutes behind schedule, nearly seventeen. Georgie? (snaps finders) Wake up! GEORGIE: (groans) I don’t want to RUDYARD: We need the coffin in the ground. Now. GEORGIE: Sir, it’s a very heavy coffin RUDYARD: What’s your point? GEORGIE: I’m the only pallbearer RUDYARD: Oh stop moaning, put your back into it! GEORGIE: Ughh Fine! REV: Do we have time for some funny anecdotes? RUDYARD: We’re late as it is and it’s pissing it down - so no. PERSON 1: He’s ruining everything! RUDYARD: There you are reverend, you’re losing them REV: Oh! I thought they were rather getting into it! PERSON 2: Not him, you! RUDYARD: Me? PERSON 3: You horrid little man, stop hurrying things along!
RUDYARD: Don’t you know what a schedule is? PERSON 3: So rude! RUDYARD: This isn’t my only gig today, you know. I’ve got Mr Ascii to measure up in half an hour! PERSON 1: He’s not dead! RUDYARD: Well he doesn’t look healthy, though, does he? PERSON 3: Stop talking we’re trying to honour Stanley! RUDYARD: Honour Stanley! You didn’t even like him. PERSON 3: How dare you! RUDYARD: I noticed in the shop you slipped that carriage clock down your blouse when you thought no one was looking! (gasps) RUDYARD: And the dressing table! (even more gasps) PERSON 2: I knew it! PERSON 3: Shut up! Bill swiped the portrait of Ova Broughn PERSON 2: Bill! I wanted that portrait! PERSON 1: Well you can’t have it! (gasps) PERSON 1: I’m sorry Jerry, I just lost control, OW REV: Now come, come everyone. Stay calm… Jerry put that shovel down! RUDYARD: Alright, Georgie, get the body in the ground GEORGIE: Sir, They’re not very happy RUDYARD: Of course they don’t look happy, it’s a funeral. Off you go! (she grunts) [narration] The service completed, Rudyard Funn and Georgie Crusoe fled the cemetery and hurried back to the funeral home. Established by local character and serial bigamist Gilbert Funn in the fifteenth century, Funn Funerals have always maintained a solid reputation for being the only funeral home on the island. RUDYARD: (grunts) What it could be a good thing back there, you saw Stanley’s widow GEORGIE: That sad old lady RUDYARD: Yes, when she took a swing at her son in law I think she fell into the grave instead. I don’t know if it was fatal but it looked promising to me GEORGIE: Do you think we’d be able to have a quiet funeral RUDYARD: Asking for the impossible never helped anyone GEORGIE: People smiling, swapping happy memories, I’m not sure every funeral should end with violent conflict RUDYARD: Georgie, once you’ve been here a few more months you’ll realise all funerals always end in bloodshed, there's very little you or I can do about it. Now go and get the measuring kit I want to go to Mr Ascii’s and see if he’s dead yet! GEORGIE: Are you sure it’s worth the bother? RUDYARD: I’ve gone round everyday for the last six weeks, I’m not giving up now, Hop to it! GEORGIE: yes sir~ RUDYARD: Get me a dry jacket, and another hat! Where’s Antigone? Antigone! Now look here, yes. Stanley’s widow! Ha I knew it! No, nothing sorry. We can fit her in a six o clock, I’ll leave her in the ground for the moment, it’ll save time in the long run. No, she shouldn’t be brawling at her age. Of course I could fancy my chances against her, Im thirty-five, she was eighty-two see you at six. Georgie! We’ve got a full day ahead of us! Where’s Antigone? GEORGIE: Try the mortuary! RUDYARD: Are you in the mortuary? Antigone? Antigone? Are you in the mortuary? Antigone? Antigone are you in the- ANTIGONE: What?! RUDYARD: I’m back. ANTIGONE: I’d rather look at the corpses. RUDYARD: Oh for- ANTIGONE: Does rest in peace mean nothing to you?! RUDYARD: Well I don’t hear the guests complaining. Room for another? ANTIGONE: Is it Mr Ascii RUDYARD: Not yet, this ones a bonus! [narration] That’s Antigone, Rudyard’s twin sister, despite actually being born one week afterwards. The poor dear had been diagnosed with depression within twenty minutes of being born - a world record which gave her no consolation at all. ANTIGONE: So how was it today? RUDYARD: Err the vicar’s getting worse and of course it was raining and inevitably it ended with a punchup over a portrait of Eva Broughn. But personally I found it all very moving ANTIGONE: Brilliant, so that's another grieving widow we’re going to have to apologise to RUDYARD: No we won't. ANTIGONE: Why not?! RUDYARD: She fell into the grave and died before I left! ANTIGONE: She what?! RUDYARD: It’s been a very productive morning ANTIGONE: You really have no concept of what good business is, do you? RUDYARD: I’d love to disagree with you and Oh! I’m doing it right now ANTIGONE: I’ve been in the mortuary all morning and do you know what I’ve been up to! RUDYARD: Oh sure I don’t want to know ANTIGONE: I’ve spent the past five hours mixing formaldehyde and methanol with clementine and a tiny, tiny dash of cinnamon. That’s what I’ve been doing for five hours! RUDYARD: Should I ask why? ANTIGONE: To try to make our embalming fluid smell nicer! So the bodies will smell nicer! Because have you really ever smelt a body, Rudyard? RUDYARD: Why do we still talk to each other? ANTIGONE: Now! Thanks to me, they’ll smell brighter, fresher, not like bodies at all. That’s the sort of service I’m striving for, Rudyard. I want them to forget that the body is a body. RUDYARD: Yes that’ll work, our Grandad’s dead but don’t worry because he smells like christmas! ANTIGONE: It’s attention to detail Rudyard! It’s how we run a business, you would know! RUDYARD: We get the body in the coffin in the ground on time GEORGIE: Sir, your other jackets been eaten by moths - I saw the whole thing. RUDYARD: Not now, Georgie, how long did it take for the coffin to get to the ground this morning? GEORGIE: A couple of seconds? RUDYARD: Now that’s a good service! GEORGIE: Because I dropped it RUDYARD: But it got where it needed to be and that’s what they pay us for. ANTIGONE: Rudyard, for the very last time! They don't want chaos! They don’t want stress and they don’t want a relative dead before the first is even been buried! RUDYARD: How do you know what they want?! ANTIGONE: In the name of sanity, Rudyard - RUDYARD: I’ve got a very busy day ahead of , so just get back into the mortuary CHAPMAN: Hello! RUDYARD: Yes? CHAPMAN: Eric, Eric Chapman. I’m new, to the place! Just arrived! GEORGIE: Good morning RUDYARD: Georgie, leave it to the professionals. Good morning. We’ve not met. CHAPMAN: No, because I’m new, to the place RUDYARD: You don't have to brag about it! I have met people before CHAPMAN: You’re Mr Rudyard Funn, of Funn Funerals? RUDYARD: Correct CHAPMAN: Terrific name, suppose you put the fun in funerals RUDYARD: No, of course we don’t, that’s obscene CHAPMAN: Sure, never mind
ANTIGONE: Hello Mr Chapman CHAPMAN: OH! Jesus ANTIGONE: Is this too close? CHAPMAN: A little bit! ANTIGONE: Sorry! CHAPMAN: No, don’t mention it! ANTIGONE: Sorry, I’m Antigone, sorry pleased to meet you. CHAPMAN: Err, likewise call me Eric. Are you in charge? ANTIGONE: I’m the mortician, where the action is, CHAPMAN: I bet there’s not much you don’t know about the body, Antigone? ANTIGONE: That sounded like a double meaning GEORGIE: It’s called flirting ANTIGONE: Oh gosh, is it? CHAPMAN: Well, now ANTIGONE: It’s smashing, do it again, have I made it awkward? DAMN RUDYARD: I haven’t got all day! CHAPMAN: Yes so, Rudyard, Antigone and GEORGIE: Georgie, Hi ANTIGONE: That’s enough! CHAPMAN: I saw you at the funeral, didn’t I GEORGIE: Yeah, helping out, it’s a job RUDYARD: Georgie, don’t give away company secrets GEORGIE: I was only - ANTIGONE: Hang on, you were at the funeral this morning? CHAPMAN: Yes I was RUDYARD: And I’m sure you’re impressed with what you saw there Mr Chapman but we really are frightfully CHAPMAN: Actually I wasn’t entirely sure it came off RUDYARD: I’m sorry? CHAPMAN: For a start it got a little violent didn’t it? RUDYARD: Did you think so? CHAPMAN: At the end yes RUDYARD: I’m not sure what funeral you were watching, Mr Chapman but all I saw was good clean mourning CHAPMAN: Didn’t someone die? RUDYARD: A very convenient place for it to happen, Georgie GEORGIE: I’m not RUDYARD: There you go, don’t let us keep you Mr Chapman CHAPMAN: And I thought there could have been a greater attention to detail. Stop me if I’m getting too critical. RUDYARD: Okay I’ll stop you there ANTIGONE: Shut up, carry on Mr Chapman CHAPMAN: Eric ANTIGONE: Gosh CHAPMAN: I have to say it was a little bit grim, I mean it’s a funeral it’s hardly party time but even so these occasions should be a celebration of life rather than going on about death, do you know what I mean? RUDYARD: Nope CHAPMAN: Ah, I don’t want to be made more miserable and I want to remember those happy magnificent memories, I want a cheerful atmosphere, bright flowers, music, funny recolations ANTIGONE: Sweeter smelling fluids CHAPMAN: Exactly, fluids? ANTIGONE: I think they’re very important. CHAPMAN: Sure thing. That's what I mean! Sorting out those little details, pushing the boat out, or the hearse out, well that's just my two cents for what it’s worth RUDYARD: Well, I don’t know what planet you live on, Mr Chapman, but - ANTIGONE: Thank you! We’ll bear those things in mind, won’t we Rudyard. RUDYARD: remind me- ANTIGONE: Smashing! CHAPMAN: Anyway, I thought I’d swing by ANTIGONE: Oh any time! CHAPMAN: Thank you, ANTIGONE: Any time at all CHAPMAN: Yes, I was just swinging by to see the competition. RUDYARD: Competition? CHAPMAN: Yes. ANTIGONE: You mean like a raffle? CHAPMAN: Not exactly RUDYARD: I hate raffles CHAPMAN: That’s a strange thing to hate. I meant you lot! Er, Funn Funerals the local competition… In funerals RUDYARD: You’re an undertaker. CHAPMAN: Well clients prefer funeral director ANTIGONE: You’re just visiting though?! CHAPMAN: No, I live here now, I’m setting myself up ANTIGONE: Your own funeral home? CHAPMAN: yeah, Chapmans, not quite as catchy as Funn Funerals but there we are ANTIGONE: Where are you going to be? CHAPMAN: You know the antique dealer you just buried, Stanley Carmichael? I’m just taking over his premises. ANTIGONE: Just across the square! CHAPMAN: That’s right! Opposite you actually, we’ll probably see a lot of each other, compare notes, swap stories, down the pub - mine’s a light ale by the way. Err did someone die in here? RUDYARD: Goodbye Chapman. CHAPMAN: Oh sure! Glad to meet you Rudyard, Antigone ANTIGONE: Chapman. CHAPMAN: Georgie GEORGIE: See you later ANTIGONE: That’s enough! CAPMAN: Okay. (exhales) Enjoy yourselves! Ah! The sun’s come out! RUDYARD: If he thinks I’m going to buy him a light ale, he’s very much mistaken. ANTIGONE: Oh shut up Rudyard! This is actually very serious. GEORGIE: He seemed fine ANTIGONE: No he didn’t, Georgie, coming over here waving his credentials in our faces, giving us feedback, my god! GEORGIE: I thought you liked him? ANTIGONE: Liked him?! Liked him?! GEORGIE: Yeah! You were talking about fluids and everything! ANTIGONE: That’s professional chit-chat for god’s sake, do you think I like gorgeous handsome men, do you? Exactly, it’s disgusting, it’s disgusting RUDYARD: I can’t think of a scenario where I would buy someone a light ale ANTIGONE: Rudyard, focus! He is serious competition RUDYARD: Him? Competition? Were you listening to the man? GEORGIE: No she wasn’t, She was gazing into his eyes ANTIGONE: Georgina! Go and make some tea. GEORGIE: We haven’t got a kettle ANTIGONE: Buy one. GEORGIE: Fine ANTIGONE: Rudyard, we’re finished, I think I’ll take a cyanide capsule RUDYARD: We are not finished, we’re an established firm, going back centuries! Nobody round here is going to book a funeral with a complete stranger. ANTIGONE: Rudyard! Look At His Shop! RUDYARD: What is it? ANTIGONE: He’s already changed the sign! ‘Chapman’s’ Just like he said. RUDYARD: I’ll admit he’s working quickly. ANTIGONE: That does it. You’ve got to see the mayor, tell him this village isn’t big enough for two funeral homes! RUDYARD: That’s not a bad idea actually, I’ll see him now. (leaves) One day I’ll find an umbrella. [narration] Rudyard scuttled across the village square and up the step leading to Piffling Hall. He was shown into the office of the Right Honourable Mayor Desmond Desmond. A man who thought the most wonderful words in the english language were “I’m sure it’s going to be fine!” SECRETARY: Mr Rudyard Funn to see you sir. MAYOR: Oh, Thank you Margery RUDYARD: Your worship, I really am most desperately sorry to- where are you? MAYOR: Down here, Rudyard, Under the desk. RUDYARD: Why? MAYOR: Ohh, just sitting here, you know. Doing a bit of thinking, big world out there RUDYARD: Yes, er I came to ask you- MAYOR: Rudyard, do you know what the difference is between a village and a town. RUDYARD: Well er, a town has a greater area, MAYOR: Yes? RUDYARD: Higher population, more amenities MAYOR: Ah, amenities, yes RUDYARD: A mayor! MAYOR: oh yes RUDYARD: I actually came to- MAYOR: We have to do something, Rudyard, with our lives haven’t we Rudyard? Don’t you think? RUDYARD: Yes! MAYOR: I look at my seal of office sometimes and all my envelopes, and I read my name, and have I done enough I ask myself, am I even Right Honourable because I don’t feel it. RUDYARD: Well, to call yourself Right Honourable you have to be a judge or a privy counsellor MAYOR: Really? I’m going to change all my stationary now! You see, this is the thing I’m talking about! What have I earned? What have I achieved? God knows we have to try and justify ourselves, somehow. RUDYARD: mhm, I don’t like the man across the road from me. MAYOR: Exactly, and then what with my sister passing the bucket last week, oh top drawer send off you chaps gave her by the way. RUDYARD: Oh, thank you! MAYOR: Oh, pity it rained RUDYARD: Yes well MAYOR: Can’t help that, or the grounds subsidence, still we all laughed seeing her flopping about like that did we- anyway, Do you know what I’ve decided to do, Rudyard? I am going to turn this village into a town. That’s what I’m going to do. I mean things must expand, mustn’t they? RUDYARD: Probably? MAYOR: Do you think so? Good! She used to say terrible things to me, my sister RUDYARD: I’ve got a problem actually MAYOR: Have you? Well can I help, cause I really like to be useful RUDYARD: I think you can be, you see, your worship, there’s this man. MAYOR: He’s not worth it Rudyard. RUDYARD: Yes. What? No I mean, this man is opening a new funeral home directly across the road from mine. MAYOR: Is that a problem? RUDYARD: We can’t have two funeral homes can’t we? MAYOR: Can’t we, why not RUDYARD: Well it’d be ridiculous! MAYOR: I don’t was to look ridiculous! RUDYARD: Exactly! If we have two funeral homes, why not two fire stations, two hospitals, two mayors! MAYOR: Two mayors!?! Could it really get that far? RUDYARD: I would hate to speculate MAYOR: Help me up, would you? Yes, I think we should stab this in the bud immediately. Thank you Rudyard. RUDYARD: Thank you your worship! MAYOR: Gets me out the office anyway RUDYARD: Well from under the desk. MAYOR: We won't talk about that. Margery, cancel my appointments for today SECRETARY: There aren’t any MAYOR: Thank you! Off we go, Rudyard [narration] Upon arriving at Chapman’s, Rudyard and the - until recently Right Honourable Mayor Desmond Desmond discovered that the place was about ready to be opened! And it wasn’t yet even midday! Rudyard braced himself for a sinister journey into the unknown MAYOR: Wasn’t this place an antique shop a few hours ago? RUDYARD: I don’t understand how he has managed to do all this?! MAYOR: Bit flash isn’t it, all these happy colours, not a patch on your set up, look not a speck of dust anywhere! RUDYARD: I mean, he arrived this morning! MAYOR: It must be said though, these sofas are really comfy! Is that a coffee machine? RUDYARD: Yes? MAYOR: Does your place have one of those? RUDYARD: We bought a kettle only half an hour ago CHAPMAN: Hi, sorry to keep you waiting as you can imagine, it’s all go here! RUDYARD: Is that a lift?! CHAPMAN: Mr Mayor, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Eric Chapman, there are some chocolate truffles in the bowl there, help yourself. Would you like the tour, I’d love to show you around, it’s still not quite finished MAYOR: Perhaps another time, Mr Chapman RUDYARD: You’ve got a lift?! MAYOR: Umm, I don’t know quite how to say this but CHAPMAN: How to say what, Mr Mayor? MAYOR: Well, it’s very naughty of you to have done this, is it? CHAPMAN: Is it? MAYOR: Oh without permission I mean CHAPMAN: But you gave me permission MAYOR: Did I? CHAPMAN: I mean before I came here, I was calling back and forth with your people and everything got sorted and err where are we, here we are, look, here’s your signature MAYOR: Yes, the smiley face in the ‘O’ well, it’s definitely mine! You must understand, I don't always read everything I’m given, I am usually kept very busy CHAPMAN: I’m sure, don’t worry about it MAYOR: What do you think? Rudyard? RUDYARD: That’s a really nice lift?!! CHAPMAN: Oh thanks Rudyard MAYOR: Yes, well, even with all this I mean, I am the mayor aren’t I and I have the perfect right to change my mind. CHAPMAN: Oh do you not want me here? MAYOR: No no no no! Not that but you see it’s just that well err, Rudyard? RUDYARD: Sorry? Yes er, Now Look Here CHAPMAN: Yes? RUDYARD: We’ve already got a funeral home MAYOR: Exactly! We’ve already got one and will the best will in the world we can’t have two funeral homes, can we? CHAPMAN: Why? MAYOR: Because, well, then you see, we’d need apparently have to have two hospitals you see? CHAPMAN: That’s a great idea MAYOR: Is it? Oh well good, I’d get onto that! BUT No, nevertheless the village just can’t sustain two funeral homes can it? CHAPMAN: You could be right there MAYOR: Could I? RUDYARD: Told you so CHAPMAN: But you know what could sustain two funeral homes? MAYOR: No? CHAPMAN: A town! MAYOR: A town? You say? RUDYARD: Hmm No! No- CHAPMAN: Now don’t get me wrong, this is a great village but I think it’s going to be an even greater town! And I want to help you do that in the only way I can: with a funeral home. MAYOR: Can I ask you a question? CHAPMAN: Go for it MAYOR: If we had two funeral homes would we need two mayors as well? CHAPMAN: No. That’s ridiculous MAYOR: Oh, excellent in that case I hereby pronounce this funeral home: open! RUDYARD: What? What are they doing there?! CHAPMAN: We’re taking advance orders, it’s just a service we provide. MAYOR: Well, I won’t take up any more of your time. Mr Chapman CHAPMAN: Oh please, Mr Mayor, It’s Eric MAYOR: Best of luck Eric, if you are ever at a loose end, do pop by the hall, sometimes we have movie nights! CHAPMAN: I’ll remember that and if you ever need our services it’s on the house. MAYOR: Tremendous, looking forward to it, now RUDYARD: Now, now hang on, we- MAYOR: Glad to have you here CHAPMAN: Mr Mayor MAYOR: No no no, call me Desmond! Ttfn CHAPMAN: Talk to you later, Desmond MAYOR: Should I leave the doors open? CHAPMAN: Oh, if you would, Rudyard I’m sorry I can’t stay and chat, can I get you anything. Oh I know what, make yourself a cup of coffee, I’ll better see to that queue eh? Enjoy yourself! Don’t forget the truffles! Good morning ladies and gentlemen, well afternoon now. Well, I’m delighted to say welcome to Chapman’s and remember: We put the fun in funerals RUDYARD: Chapman! [narration] After a coffee, and a couple of truffles, Rudyard stormed out, seething with resentment. He kicked a small dog and got bitten by its owner. Having gotten back to Funn Funerals, Rudyard sat down on a chair by the window and stared out across the road muttering out loud to his only real friend in the world RUDYARD: (muttering) It’s only a funeral home who the hell do they think they are eh? (squeaks) RUDYARD: Exactly, I give him a week, alright maybe two.. Ah he might have gold blend and lounge music but you can’t put a glass on the mechanics. We get the body in the coffin in the ground on time, That’s what it's about, I bet his corpses don't smell of cinnamon. Yeah, we’ll see who runs this village. ANTIGONE: Rudyard you’re talking to that mouse again aren’t you? RUDYARD: Her name is Madeleine ANTIGONE: It’s not normal! RUDYARD: Antigone, you spend twenty-three hours a day in the mortuary don’t try to tell me what’s normal. Off you go Madeleine, we’ll continue this later ANTIGONE: You haven’t moved all afternoon! RUDYARD: I don’t need to move, I’m plotting ANTIGONE: Where’s Georgie? RUDYARD: Day off, no work, plotting. ANTIGONE: Rudyard, for the first time in our lives we actually have competition which means we could really do with having some friends so could you get out there and make some? RUDYARD: I’ll do it tomorrow ANTIGONE: Have you at least gone round to check on Mr Ascii RUDYARD: Who? ANTIGONE: Mr Ascii, the man we’ve been waiting to die for six weeks, because so help me I need to embalm somebody and it could quite easily be you RUDYARD: Look Mr Ascii’s immortal, he’ll never die so what’s the point about it. Now Look Here, Georgie? What? Right, I’ll see you there. Mr Ascii’s dead. ANTIGONE: Is he? RUDYARD: Yes. OH MY GOD MR ASCII’S DEAD! ANTIGONE: How?! RUDYARD: Heart attack, half an hour ago it’s all around the village, Antigone, I’m so happy! ANTIGONE: Took him long enough RUDYARD: Ahh He’s dead, he’s dead, he’s dead, he’s dead, he’s dead, he’s dead! ANTIGONE: Rudyard! Stop being happy and get over there now! RUDYARD: Sorry, yes, get over there, I’m gone. Rudyard is back in the game! … Rudyard is going to get wet! Have the mortuary ready! ANTIGONE: And Rudyard, don’t cock it up. [narration] Before you judge Rudyard too harshly at his delight at an old man’s demise, I should tell you that Mr Ascii was Rudyard’s old PE teacher at school so his delight is almost entirely justified. Rudyard met Georgie at Mr Ascii’s bijuu residence at five forty-five. GEORGIE: Okay, okay  RUDYARD: Georgie GEORIGIE: Sir? RUDYARD: Say it again for me won’t you, say it again GEORGIE: Alright, Mr Ascii’s dead but listen I’ve got- RUDYARD: Yeessssss, Get in there my son… whatever that means GEORGIE: Yeah I ought to say- RUDYARD: I’ve been looking forward to putting him in the ground, can’t mock me for losing the 200 metre dash now can you, Mr Ascii! GEORGIE: Before you get excited RUDYARD: Right yes, got to straighten up, think grave. How do I look? GEORGIE: Miserable RUDYARD: Great, let’s go GEORGIE: But sir, NURSE: Could we please have some quiet out here, oh it’s you, Mister Funn RUDYARD: Good afternoon nurse, Could please take this opportunity to convey my most prevermed(???) condolences NURSE: Thank you Mister Funn RUDYARD: I’m sure my apprentice Ms Crusoe, has already carried out our preliminary duties so I think in the interest of efficiency we should let the dog see the rabbit, if you’ll take me through NURSE: Well, This is actually rather embarrassing RUDYARD: Oh please don’t say it’s a false alarm! NURSE: In a sense,,, yes RUDYARD: Oh for, Georgie you said he was dead GEORGIE: He is dead RUDYARD: But, ugh, Nurse, one of us in this corridor is deeply confused and I’m beginning to believe it might be you NURSE: No? RUDYARD: I knew it, she’s mad, grab her Georgie. NURSE: I’m not mad! RUDYARD: That’s what a mad person would say, Georgie GEORGIE: Let’s do this CHAPMAN: Rudyard! Great to see you RUDYARD: Chapman! CHAPMAN: Busy afternoon, eh, hello Georgie GEORGIE: Hey, Eric RUDYARD: Stop flirting. Nurse, I demand this man be told to vacate this bijuu residence immediately CHAPMAN: Look, this is my bad, and I’ve really got to apologise for this one NURSE: Mr Ascii requested it! RUDYARD: He what? NURSE: With his final words he said he couldn’t bare to get buried by such a feeble little weed as Rudyard Funn CHAPMAN: Interesting man, he wanted to see my gold medals from the 200 metre dash, gotta say I wasn’t expecting business to kick off so quickly NURSE: You’re doing a most proper job Mr Chapman CHAPMAN: Thank you nurse, I think we’ll collect him first thing tomorrow. Anyway must run, good to see you Rudyard, Georgie. Enjoy yourselves! Ahh NURSE: What a charming man, I hear he’s still a bachelor RUDYARD: So am I.. NURSE: Yes well, hardly surprising is it? GEORGIE: Ahh well, can’t win em all eh sir? Sir, are you alright? RUDYARD: I am so… SIX O CLOCK GEORGIE: Six o clock? RUDYARD: Six o clock! The cemetery, Stanley’s widow, Stanley Carmichael’s widow in the cemetery at six o clock! GEORGIE: Oh yeah! I forgot about that! RUDYARD: What time is it? GEORGIE: About five to six but you’ll never get there. Sir?! Oh for god’s sake, Rudyard! Come back here you stupid. [narration] Rudyard raced down the cliff, past the trees and through the streets with speed that would have finally impressed Mr Ascii, had he not already been dead. His lungs aching for breath, his limbs trembling with the effort, Rudyard tumbled into the cemetery at exactly one minute past six. To discover… RUDYARD: It’s…. It’s all REV: Ahh, there you are Rudyard! RUDYARD: Reverend? What’s going on? REV: Well, I arrived to oversee the preliminaries on Mrs Carmichael’s err, transferal to a better world - if such a place exists - which i'm not certain about one way or the other, and I found that her family and friends had been gathered together already for the funeral. RUDYARD: For the funeral? REV: Since the deceased was already here, and sensibly dressed, he just got it done out of the way, young fella named Eric, got his own funeral practise I understand. I’m hearing marvelous things about it. He’s got a coffee machine! Led them all a couple of sing songs actually, even had my speech prepared for me! Very succinct it was, breezed through it all in no time. RUDYARD: Chapman… REV: Oh he also found a lake! Over there! I think we’re all going boating in a minute. He owns a boat you know RUDYARD: Chapman! REV: Anyway, I better get to be going back to it, we’re having jelly and ice cream, bags of fun. Goodbye, Rudyard! Or should I say: Enjoy yourself! RUDYARD: I see. I see. Well CHAPMAN: Hello Rudyard. RUDYARD: Oh. It’s. you. Did a fair job I hear, congratulations, don’t think it will always be like this they won’t hand it to you on a plate you know, they won’t do that. This is very much the exception. Oh what? What? You can talk can’t you? Say something? CHAPMAN: Rudyard. Have a nice evening. RUDYARD: What do you- What do you mean: have a nice evening? What do you mean by that remark, Chapman? What if I don’t want to have a nice evening? Eh? What if I Don’t? Chapman! What did you mean! Chapman! Chapman?! [narration] Today had been the worst day of Rudyard’s life, until tomorrow came along and topped it. I was there to jot it all down from first hand observation (and a little bit of gossip I picked up later) and of course, being his only real friend in the world, Rudyard tells me everything. My name is Madeleine - I’m going to be the first mouse to be a Sunday Times Best Seller, and I know for a fact that Rudyard want to revenge himself on Eric by well, we’ll burn that bridge when be come to it

Cost of the Throne - Chapter 5
[Pervious] * [Next] * [First]
Two weeks.
It only took two weeks for the combined force of Fortuna and Mallet to defeat Quebel. Quebelian army had put a good fight but they were overpowered by the invading armies. It didn’t help that the people of Quebel welcome the Fortunan and Malletine armies as heroes sent to their land to free them from tyrant rule of Harald.
It just wasn’t the lower classes that helped out but some of the lords as well. Their number were minuscule and mainly consisted of lords who’s supported the old kingdom. The leader of the small group was Lord Valles, who went directly to Vergil to offer his help.
It was due to Lord Valles’ help the war ended quicker. It was due to his information that Vergil and his elite force were able to infiltrate the palace, killing Harald and his sons.
Now that the war was over the people of Quebel began to celebrate the end of Harald’s rule and the new rule of Vergil.
But for (Y/N), the end of the war didn’t bring any comfort to her. She hadn’t received any news from her mother and she fears the worst.
She now slept less than she normally did and stopped eating altogether as worry consuming her.
Vilho had forced her a couple of times to sleep with his magic.
Vilho, Debbie, Lady and even Dante forced her to eat though Vilho and Debbie only made her eat a small portion of food whilst the demon hunters made her eat whole meals.
The days continue on with no word from her mother.
(Y/N) had lost hope from hearing from her mother so she began to mourn her loss.
Lady was the first to notice the signs of mourning and stay by (Y/N)’s side, helping her through her grieving process.
The month slowly pass, (Y/N)’s grief didn’t wane but she managed to start eating again and sleeping a bit more.
(Y/N) was now sitting at a table in Gure’s Cellar having dinner with Dante. He had ordered them streak and potatoes with some vegetables. To Dante’s surprise, (Y/N) ate all of her meal.
The white hair man just stared at the (H/C) woman as she finished off her meal whilst he had only halfway through his own.
“Wow! Someone was hungry,” Dante commented.
“I guess my body making up for all the meals I missed,” She replied to Dante as she eyed his vegetables.
Dante turned his plate so (Y/N) could eat the vegetables off his plate freely.
“Well, a growing girl needs all of that energy,” Dante joked.
(Y/N) ignored his joke and continued to eat his food.
Whilst munching on carrot (Y/N) took in the rest of the bar.
Everyone is in their little groups and clusters chatting away. It seemed that something had gotten the attention as they quickly talking and arguing about the topic.
“Everyone seems pumped up about something,” (Y/N) mumbled.
Dante looked around the busy room.
“Yeah…” Dante agreed. “I think some interesting news came out,” He said.
“Interesting news?” (Y/N) asked.
“I don’t know. I don’t keep on top of the news,” Dante said which result in an eye-roll from his friend. “Morrison probably knows what’s up,” He said as he lends back on the chair to wave to the other man over from across the room.
“How may I help today Dante?” Morrison inquired.
“I’m curious about everyone talking. I’m might be out of the loop,” (Y/N) said.
“I guess you are,” Morrison said before starting the news “The news that’s on everyone is from Quebel. Vergil has announced his marriage to Harald’s daughter,” He explained.
Dante perked up at that news. (Y/N) was also surprised that the news. She didn’t know Harald had another daughter.
‘She must have been born after me,’ (Y/N) thought. ‘In the name of the gods, he going to marry someone about fourteen. He must be desperate to solidify his claim on the throne,’
“Oh, really?” Dante said. “Please tell us all about this princess?” He asked.
Morrison chuckled.
“Well, first off she no princess,” Morrison started. “The daughter is a bastard. There’s not a lot know about her as she disappeared about fourteen years ago. Most thought she was dead,” He finished.
(Y/N) processed the older man’s words as she took a swig of her beer.
‘…Disappeared about fourteen years ago…’ Those words slowly sink in then she realised something.
“What? If everyone thought that she was dead, why is Vergil marrying her?” Dante asked.
“That’s because she wrote a letter to her mother that ended up in Vergil’s hands,” Morrison explained.
Harald didn’t have any other daughters. The woman that Vergil intended to marry was her.
Jeanette put her tanker little too hard on the table which alerted Dante and Morrison to her.
“Hey! Are you alright?” Dante asked.
Jeanette’s face had gone pale.
“No,” She confessed. “I suddenly feel sick,” She lied as brought her hand to her mouth.
“Probably eat something bad,” Morrison concluded.
Though Dante didn’t look convinced by Morrison conclusion but kept quite.
“Let’s get you home then,” He said getting up to help (Y/N) out of her seat.
Dante guided her out of the pub and down the street to the boarding house, where (Y/N) stopped him outside the front door.
“I’ll be alright now Dante,” (Y/N) told him.
“Don’t you want me to escort you to your room?” He asked.
“No, I should be fine Dante. It’s just a short walk to my room,” She recurred him.
Dante was hesitated to let (Y/N) go off by herself but her smile told him that she wanted to be left alone. So he let her go.
Dante watched as (Y/N) passed through the fresh-hold, not leaving the front of the boarding house until a light went on in (Y/N)’s room.
Once (Y/N) was in her room, she lite her fire using her magic. She sat on the floor in front of the fireplace with her back against her bed.
Her mind was still processing the news she heard.
Vergil, the eldest son of Legendary Dark Knight Sparda, Nelo Anglo Mallet’s strongest knight and Mundus’ favourite general, now King/Emperor of strongest counties in the world, future King of Quebel wanted to marry her because she carries the blood of Rose-Griffiths. And it was all her own fault.
It was because of her own letter.
‘I knew I shouldn’t have sent that letter!’ She cursed herself. ‘…But… I needed to know if my mother was alive. And still don’t have an answer to that!’
Panic finally started to settle.
‘Oh, the gods! I bet they already tortured Oswin to find out where he sent me. They must be searching for me now,’
(Y/N) felt the contest of her stomach rising up. She lunges forward for the bucket that she kept by the fireplace. She emptied the content of her stomach into the wooden container.
‘My life…’ She thought.
The life she had worked so hard to build was close to being shattered.
What should she do? Runaway and hide for rest of her life or surrendered herself to Vergil.
‘No! I can’t have that!’
Running for the problem wouldn’t solve. And if ran away she would be breaking the oath that she made to herself and the people of Ckville. That she would protect and heal them no matter the situation.
‘I’ll just to fight whoever comes after me no matter what. I won’t let anyone take me away from this life that I’ve made for myself,’ (Y/N) vowed.
The doctor knew some offensive spells that Vilho had taught her. (“There’s no point in becoming a doctor if you die on the way,” Vilho told her once.) And Lady had taught her a thing or two about defending one’s self. Then there was also that power. The one that she inherited from her father.
(Y/N) stared at the flames in front as she thought about that power she had inherited from that man. She reached out to the fire. The flames jumped from the hearth to the outstretched hand. (Y/N) turned over her hand, letting the flame settle in her palm. The flame burned more brightly in her hand than when it was in the hearth. With a little twitch of her magic, (Y/N) turned the flame blue. (Y/N) stared at the blue in her hand for a moment before the horrible memories started to return to her. She quickly snugged out the flame before any more memories return.
(Y/N) sighed and massage her forehead. Once the horrible memories were gone (Y/N) started to clean the sick out of bucket then head to bed.
***
Once more, days start passing by. (Y/N) kept going on with her life, always over her shoulder for Vergil’s knights or soldier.
But for the moment it seemed that they hadn’t found her yet.
Today the hospital was quiet. There had been no big emergency or major cases.
That week also coincided with Vilho’s yearly trip to the capital to raise money for the hospital. So (Y/N) was left in charge of the hospital during the day.
The quiet day allowed (Y/N) to go through the paperwork that she let pile up during the week. But soon the quietness of the hospital was disturbed.
“(Y/N)!” Debbie shouted for her.
(Y/N) rushed from her office to see what had happened.
Laying on the floor not far from the door was a body. It was surrounded by several people, mainly city soldiers of Ckville, labourers and nurses.
The doctor moved closer to see who was on the floor.
When she was close enough to see who it was she stopped.
The person was dead. There was no mistaking it.
But what made it worst was that the person was Joe, the young city soldier who everyone trusted to get the job done.
“What happened?” (Y/N) asked.
“We got into a fight with Lord Kay’s men. Joe stepped into the fight to stop us,” One of another soldier said.
(Y/N) stepped closer to the body, kneeling down next to it. She had seen from afar that there was a bloodstain on the tunic, now she the chance to examine the wound up close.
There were two to three holes in the tunic, long and thin in nature most likely done by sword or knife. By the positions of the holes the blade penetrated the intestines, pancreas and the heart and with the amount of blood that drenched his clothes and floor Joe was dead before he got to the hospital.
“Is there anything you can do for him?” A soldier asked.
(Y/N) was silent as thought about how to reply.
“I can’t help the dead,” She replied.
Gasps came from the group around, followed by cries and angry shout. Some of soldiers and labourers rushing out of the hospital.
(Y/N) held back a cry of her of own as she shouts of the eyes of the young man.
A young man who had a brilliant smile and a lovely soul. Who always walked her home when younger and taught her all about the city that they lived in. Her first friend.
Someone who shouldn’t have been taken away from this world yet.

[voicemail from blocked number] I don’t know how long these things can be, but I assume the thing will cut off if it decides it wants to be stupid and do that. I don’t understand this shit and I’m pretty fucking sure you don’t either, but I don’t know. I guess it doesn’t matter. Your sister paid me a visit and told me not to talk to you or look at you ever again or she’d cremate me so naturally I messaged you. I’m horrible with words. You and I both know this. I fucked up and I know sorry isn’t enough, but I’m a fucking idiot. Again, we both know this. I saw you have a store that you’re setting up. Maybe I’ll stop by and buy a blanket or something as an apology. I don’t know though. That sounds pretty fucking weird, right? I don’t know anything, man. Anyway, this was supposed to be me saying sorry and telling you that I wish I could take back how I treated you. I was pushing you away and I said some shit I didn’t mean and I guess it took your sister threatening my life to realize that. I don’t know, you can accept this or not. I don’t really deserve to be forgiven for all that shit I said anyway. I don’t know how to cut this off without being weird about it. This is Alarick by the way. I love you, man.
Woven’s grand-opening was only a couple days away, but everything was at last setup. The storm had done a number on the building, truly, Atlas’ dreams had nearly been washed away entirely, but a generous benefactor had seen to it that that would not be the case. To celebrate, the oracle had invited all of his closest friends and family to view the shop prior to the public and let whomever was interested get first dibs on his products. In the back of his mind Atlas also hoped they would spread the word and make sure that he actually had customers, but, the weaver had faith in what he had built.
The oracle leaned against the counter and looked out at the various groups as they laughed and mingled, he had bought champagne, did the whole bit with a big toast. While he didn’t drink, most people did, so naturally there was a non-alcoholic version floating around. He watched Astraea and Saf as they shared what he assumed they believed to be some unseen moment, he looked to his friends in the coven, Daci and Ava. Ajax and Rowan. The chief hadn’t made it, but truthfully, Atlas could not blame him. Asher had just lost his brother, while Atlas had extended the invitation, he could only respect the man’s desire to grieve in peace. Elias looked typically lost, but Atlas had paid Kiera to cater the events, so at least the newly-made shifter had snacks to occupy himself with.
It’s possible that none of this would have been made possible without Lykaon, he and Gabriel had arrived together. An invitation had been extended to Sela as well, but the fury had claimed that she had work to do and left it at that. Winter was here though, and she’d brought someone other than Honkus. Fitted with a little bow tie, the goose was perhaps the best dressed of the entire bunch.
A smile ghosted Atlas’ lips, Xander pressed a kiss to the top of his head, whispered, good work, lover, then slipped away to go get more champagne as Atlas had instructed him to do. Three years ago the witch had arrived in Corinth with nothing, no friends, no family that even knew where he was, or what had happened to him. Lost, alone, and with only a few meagre possessions to sell off in order to get by. Afraid for his life, connections had, at one point, been a matter of survival, then the necessity had changed. He did not need these people for what they could give him, he needed them because he loved each and every one of them. There was just one person who was missing.
Atlas glanced at his phone when an alert told him he had a new voicemail, he pressed it to his ear and listened. His breath caught in his throat, his heart hammered in his chest. Atlas wanted to hang up because he recognized the voice immediately, but he couldn’t, he missed the sound of it too much. Alarick said three words that the oracle had never expected to hear, then he played it again, and again, before at last he set his phone down. A sigh escaped Atlas’ lips, he typed three words back in response: I miss you. It would take time for the witch to let his friend back into his life, and truly, he wasn’t sure if he could forgive the things that Alarick had said. But still, those three words rang true. He missed him, and Atlas wished that the werewolf could be here.
