Winter was much less forgiving than warmer months, the bitter air that sliced across your face was enough to bring tears to your eyes. Melting snow crunched underfoot, and a handful of times the ground cackled at you if your boot were to get stuck in a patch of icy slush. Ultimately, there was nothing more on your mind than getting as far away from there as humanly possible, all while fighting the fear in your chest that swelled heavily.

It was an ugly feeling, one that only intensified every time that lantern light would catch in your peripheral vision, meaning only one thought, and one fate alone.

Finally, as if it was impending, the toe of your shoe catches an unseen tree root, tucked safely under a mound of snow. Yelping, your hands come to your front as if it would make the fall any easier.

Cold breath billows from chapped lips, your eyes wide with the incoming trepidation that something is going to kill you.

A passing idea comes to mind that maybe if you remained silent, nothing would be able to find you in such a blanketed darkness.

Just at the same time, as if to inherently mock you, just above the sound of thunderous hooves, the sound of a creaking old oil lamp pounds loudly in your ears.

“There is little left to the imagination,”

Your nose wrinkles distastefully at the layers of dust that coat every surface in sight, slightly appalled but understanding that these belongings have not been interacted with in decades. The room sat untouched, even the librarian seemed confused as to when you asked for directions.

“All right.”

You clap to signify the beginning of the search, talking to no one but yourself. Hastily rolling up your sleeves as if you were about to really get your hands dirty.

The book was in here somewhere, and you weren’t leaving until you found it.

A few hours would pass, your knees and arms in excruciating pain, yet, there was still more than half of the room to search. All of your online research had led you to this very room, and while standing within it was a surreal experience, it was becoming more and more frustrating when the shelves had no sort of order.

Unbeknownst to you, a set of blue eyes would watch you curiously, unsure as to why he was hiding, but knowing that you were about to uncover this town’s best-known secret.

He only pondered silently why it had taken someone so long to be as incongruous as you, to dig a little deeper, ignoring the hogwash fed to the community. There must be something that didn’t make sense to you, or possibly a personal agenda?

It was all the same to him, he didn’t need a reason for your search.

He just needed to make sure you saw it through to the end.

“Gross,”

Your face twists in disgust, yanking a book free that had been attached to the shelf by cobwebs and old age. Though the leather-bound book was deteriorating, the title was clear as day, and just holding the pages in your hands was enough to make your heart skip a beat.

“Gross, but a small victory.”

Carefully making your way down the step ladder, you cross the room to the large window, where an oak desk and chair sit.

When you place the book on the table, a noise comes from behind you, scaring you enough to emit a short squeak from your lips. When you turn to the noise source, there is no one there, a fact that sends a chill straight down your spine.

“It’s an old room, y/n. Chill out.”

“y/n…”

Now you know you weren’t crazy, even if the voice was more a whisper than anything. To quell your rampaging heart, you keep one hand on the book, then face front, so you have your back to the window.

“Who’s there?”

In all his years, he’s heard the same question by lurking between the aging bookshelves and outdated furniture. It was nothing new to him, and though you had piqued his interest, there was little point in making his presence known.

He doesn't reply.

“Fine, you can hide there then. But I’m gonna read, so just keep it down, okay?”

“If you insist.” Mumbling to no one but himself.

Hesitantly, you pull the chair away from the desk, sliding into the seat, not caring about the dust since you were already covered head to toe in it. While against your better judgment about the mystery man in the room, you continued onwards, opening the book as carefully as you could.

About two pages in, you can feel the presence of a person hovering, just over your shoulder, as if reading alongside you. Huffing in annoyance, you turn once more to find no one there.

“I can’t-ah!”

Your palm comes to your lips, poorly silencing the scream that bubbled in your throat. The man had rounded the desk, so when you went to about-face to sit properly in the chair, the only thing that separated the two of you was the desk.

Positive you had seen something out the window, the man turns to look outside but is met with the same empty field he always sees.

No…unless?

“Oh my gosh,”

Now he’s sure you’re just gawking at the next page you had half-turned to, the greyscale map that outlined so much and nothing at the same time.

But when he follows your line of sight, you’re staring straight at him, right into his eyes.

“Are you in the business of trying to scare me away, or?”

He realizes you’re talking to him, and he immediately rightens his posture, going ramrod straight, absolutely surprised as your eyes move upwards to match his.

“You can-"

He swallows thickly.

“You can see me?”

“Of course I can, you nearly-"

Your words falter, eyes drifting down somewhat as your attention is drawn to his red attire.

“…made my heart stop. Who...are you?”

In the back of your mind, you know exactly who he is, but part of your brain is convincing you this is nothing short of a hallucination. Maybe you inhaled too much dust.

The man does nothing but stare, and just when you are about to ask again, he shakes his head, almost in disbelief, before shrugging some sort of feeling off his shoulders.

“I know your name, and it would be so impolite of me to not offer mine. I am John, y/n, it’s very nice to meet you.”

He rounds the desk, so he can properly shake your hand. Polite by nature, and by habit. You stand on wobbly knees.

“John? As in John André-?”

And just as you ask, your hand falls straight from his hold, as if nothing was ever really there.

“What gave me away?”

You gasp, finally realizing just what you are dealing with at this very moment.

“And if you wouldn’t mind, may I ask what is your interest in that book?”

John gestures over his shoulder, but you can’t seem to pick your jaw up off the floor.

“I would say that you get used to it, but you’re the first person I’ve come across who can physically see me.”

“So the ghost of John André wants to know my interest in this book,”

You finally find your words, a bit of shock still resonating within your tone.

“That was one of my inquiries, yes.”

“You should know.” You close the book over, so the cover lies face up, the title visible to the both of you.

“MAKEOVER” — Allison Reynolds x Reader

PAIRING: Allison Reynolds x Goth!Reader

GENRE: Platonic

SUMMARY: After getting a bright idea, reader, who is a goth, decides to give Allison a makeover in their style.

WORD COUNT: 0.6k

A/N: Yippee!!!! I love the breakfast club sm, Allison is such a cutie. Requested by anon and proofread by @lu-vin-it !! P.S., I don’t wear a bunch of makeup, so I hope I explained the makeup scene well enough to understand :)

SHERMER HIGH SCHOOL, CHICAGO Illinois. been sitting in detention for about four hours and have made some unlikely friends. Andrew Clark: the “athlete.” Claire Standish: the “princess.” Brian Johnson: the “brain.” John Bender: the “criminal.” Last but most certainly not least, Allison Reynolds: the “basket case.”

Out of all of them, Allison was the person you got along with the best. You were labeled as “The Goth” in school. You always wore thick eyeliner, black lipstick, and dark clothes. The kids in school described you as a real life vampire. Most of the time, you just scoffed and rolled your eyes.

You were in detention for skipping class. It’s not like you skipped the whole period. Just most of it. You had to fix your makeup because you were in a rush that morning.

Unfortunately, out of all the people that could have caught you, it was Mr. Vernon. You two already didn’t like each other, and this made matters worse.

That’s the recap, though. Now you’re doing your time and talking to people who you wouldn’t be caught dead with otherwise.

After your dance break, John had to go back to Mr. Vernon’s closet and there was small talk between you and the four other teenagers. Then you got the brightest idea.

“Allison.” You announce her name. She looks over at you with curiosity. “C’mere.” The girl walks over to you and you present your idea in her ear. She smiles toothily and nods her head. You smile back and lead her to a supply closet, bringing your bag with you.

Once in the closet, you pull out your palest concealer, liquid eyeliner, black eyeshadow, and tube of black lipstick. She sits on a table and fidgets with her fingers excitedly.

You dot concealer underneath her eyes, patting it into Allison’s skin with your finger. She flinches a couple times, then gets used to the sensation.

Once done with the base, you move onto eyeshadow. You brush the black pigment onto her eyelids and bring it down to the bridge of her nose, contouring the skin with the eyeshadow.

You contour the rest of her face— her cheekbones, forehead, and her chin. By now, she’s looking almost identical to you. You smile, prideful of her transformation.

“Now it’s the hard part,” you say slightly, unscrewing your eyeliner lid. “You’ll be fine, just hold very still.” She complies.

You line under her eyes and then wing it up to the corner. You connect the eyeliner to her top lid and fill it in, doing the same with the other eye.

You then pull away from her face, smiling. Allison looks amazing as a goth. You silently hoped she would like the look as much as you do. You dug in your bag for your compact mirror and handed it to her. She opened it up, and when she saw her reflection, she smiled wider than ever and squeaked again.

“Do you like it??” You ask excitedly. She nods. The two of you talk some more and then you bring her out to the library for the others to see her.

Brian smiles at her awkwardly, and you swear you can see a dust of pink cloud across his face. Claire gasps and says she looks really good as a goth. Finally, Andres is left speechless. Allison looks at the floor in embarrassment.

“See something you like, Andrew?” You ask loudly, teasing him. He looks at Allison, and then you, and then Allison again. He then nods slightly, making you giggle.

“Go get your honey.” You whisper in Allison’s ear. She playfully swats your shoulder.

Comfort From a Lamb's Heart

Summary - Part 40 in the Comfort series

Back at the hotel, you run Destiny a warm bubble bath and then sit on the end of the bed. Dean sits down beside you and takes your hand in his.

“What’s going through that pretty head?”

“Just my screw up. And what to do with Destiny. I shouldn’t have, but I…”

“I heard what you told her. We’d look after her…you know we can’t. I had the same thoughts last night, but we can’t. She’s better off with Garth and Bess.”

“Why not? We want a child, she’s not our blood and she’s a werewolf. The demons won’t want her, so we can keep her safe. Raise her as human as possible. Feed her animal meat and train her to be kind. She wants to be kind.”

“She can be. With Garth. I know you want to be a mother, Y/N. And I hope that one day you can be. But it’s not gonna be like this. She’s not the one. Her kind killed your family.”

“I got my revenge for that. And since when have our ancestors' actions defined who we are? I’m not my parents and neither are you.”

“You might not be. But look at me, how am I not?”

“You’re not John, Dean.”

“If something happened to you, I know I would be. In a second I would turn into him.”

“You’re not. I know you don’t believe it. But you would move on. You would get your revenge and then you would move on to the next case. You always do. You’re not your father. Regardless, I made a promise and I intend to keep it.”

“Alright, fine. But we’re taking a drive to see Garth first. We do what’s best for her, alright?”

You nod and stand up. You knock on the ensuite door before opening it to check on the little girl. You help her out of the bath, wrapping a towel around her to get her dry and warm.

“Who’s Garth?” She asks quietly. When you struggle to answer she looks away and apologises, “Sorry. I shouldn’t have listened to you talk.”

You kneel down to her height. “No, it’s okay. We should have known about your good hearing. Garth is a friend. He’s a werewolf too. He and his wife are very nice people. We just think it would be a good idea for you to meet them and see how you feel. The next move after that is yours okay? If you feel comfortable with their pack and want to stay you can. If not, you can come home with us. I promised to keep you safe, and I meant it.”

“But Dean…”

“I know. He’s a little rough around the edges. But I promise he won’t hurt you or leave you anywhere you don’t want to be. I know you’re scared of him, he’s scared of your kind and angry about your dad taking me. And I’m sorry about your dad. Dean is too, had he known about you he may have acted differently. But I promise he won’t hurt you.”

She hugs you tight. “I wanna stay with you.”

You wrap your arms around her. “You can. Right now though, let me see if I’ve got anything you can wear tonight and then I’ll send Dean out to get you some new clothes in the morning, okay?”

She nods and you pull away to go look through your bag for a shirt. Back in the main room, you watch as Dean sets up a pillow and blanket on the couch. You hand Destiny one of your shirts and then go over and wrap your arms around Dean’s waist from behind.

“See. You are paternal.”

“This is for me. You share the bed with her, she’ll be more comfortable that way. What’s best for the child, right?”

You nod against his back. “Right. Speaking of…would you be able to go out and find something for all of us for dinner? And possibly some clothes for her?”

You feel him stiffen a little and then he turns around and pecks your lips. “Sure. I’ll be back soon.” You nod and watch as he gathers his wallet, phone and keys and heads towards the door. As he opens the door he stops briefly, turns back around and says, “I love you.”

You smile and say, “I love you too.”

Once he’s gone Destiny steps out of the bathroom. Your shirt hangs on her like an extremely oversized dress or a sheet. You give her an apologetic look and pull down the sheets on one side of the bed, encouraging her to climb in as you take a seat on the opposite side. She snuggles up close so you wrap an arm around her shoulders and turn on the TV. You search for a child-friendly program; you end up settling on Scooby Doo, but after watching for a few minutes you start to wonder if a talking dog is really the best idea. You watch her but she’s not really paying attention. Her eyes drift closed, so you help her lay down as you brush your hand through her soft hair, comforting her so she knows she’s not alone. Eventually, you feel your eyes getting heavy again as you struggle to pay attention to the Scooby Gang.

You wake up to the feeling of someone kissing your forehead. “Hey, Baby,” you mumble half-asleep.

“Shhh. Go back to sleep.”

You rub your eyes. “No, it’s okay. I’m starving.”

“Alright then.” Dean stands up, brings over a burger for you and places a glass of water on the bedside table. “I would offer you a beer, but I’m not convinced those roofies have fully worn off yet.”

“Not the first time I’ve had to swear off alcohol,” you reply. He gives you a small, tight smile and returns to the small dining table to eat his own burger.

“You wanna wake her up? She’s so tiny and malnourished. Who knows when the last time she ate was.”

With your non-burger-grease-covered hand, you pat the little girl’s hair again and then give her shoulder a light but firm squeeze. Once she stirs you give her time to wake up and adjust to her surroundings. Once she seems mostly awake Dean brings over a cardboard takeaway container and places it on the bed in her lap. “I know you’re probably used to the flavour of human hearts. But uh, we don’t want you eating us so…”

“Dean!” You scold.

“Sorry. The point is, that’s a lamb’s heart, just try to eat it. It was the only type of heart the butcher had.”

She nods and opens up the box. She looks down at the heart and then up at you. She watches as you eat. When you notice her looking at your food you offer her a taste.

“Do you want a taste?”

“Is that human food?”

You nod. “Yeah, one of many. It’s a burger. You haven’t been around many people have you?”

She shakes her head.

You hand her your burger and she takes a small bite. You and Dean both watch her reaction eagerly. She scrunches her nose up as she forces herself to swallow.

“That’s ok, we know it’s not what you’re used to. As long as you’re with us you’re welcome to try any human foods, but your body is only really made to eat meat, so we’ll do our best to get you what you need too.” She continues to look at the heart apprehensively, so you reassure her, “You can eat it, it’s okay. It’s not from a human. It’s from the butcher – a meat shop – so Dean didn’t have to kill anything for it.”

“But someone did…” she says sullenly.

You give her a soft look and say, “Unfortunately, yes. That’s how you get meat. But I like to tell myself it’s less wasteful and more humane this way. It’s also the circle of life. You need to eat too.” Then you lean close to her ear and whisper, “And you’re not the only one that needs meat. Dean over there likes to call himself the ‘meatman’.”

“The meatman?” she repeats confused.

Dean shoots you an incredulous glare. “Really, Y/N?”

You smirk back and then return to your burger, hoping Destiny will follow your example and eat as well. She watches you for a few seconds and then sheepishly takes a small bite of the lamb's heart. Blood oozes out of the heart and over her little hands. Dean quickly hands you and her a few napkins from the takeout bag to keep the mess from getting all over the sheets. As she devours the messy organ you can see the appreciation on her face and she starts to look just the slightest bit less pale and ghostly.

Once she’s finished eating she uses the napkins to clean off her hands just as she’d watched you do. “Thank you,” she quietly says while looking directly at Dean.

Her manners catch him off guard, so he just gives her a small, barely-there smile. Feeling uncomfortable from his lack of reply she looks away and focuses on the napkin in her hands instead.

Noticing the tension you reach over and place your hand on her forearm. “You’re welcome, Sweetie. Why don’t you go and clean your hands properly in the bathroom? And I don’t know if your dad ever taught you about brushing your teeth or if normal werewolves even do that, but with the new diet, it might be beneficial. There’s a spare toothbrush on the sink in there that you can use with our toothpaste; it’s the pink one.”

She passes you the empty takeout container with the dirty napkin and scampers into the bathroom. Dean gets up and tidies away all of the rubbish before sitting next to you again.

“I’ve seen all your little looks. I know I’m screwing up. I’m just not…this is difficult for me.”

“Forget who her dad was for a second. Just see her for the child she is.”

“Even then…I’m just not good with-”

“Lord help me if you’re going to try and tell me you’re not good with kids. Who raised Sam, Dean?”

“That’s not-”

“Who raised Sam? He always tells me it wasn’t John. So, who?”

“I was a kid too. I was just doing what I was told. I was just looking after my little brother. This is different.”

“I know it is. But there’s also been the kids on cases, and she was comfortable enough this morning when I woke up. So, you’re doing good. You’re a natural with kids. Just be natural. Be yourself.”

He nods and kisses you softly, but he pulls away when he hears a gasp.

“Don’t hurt her! Don’t bite her!” Destiny shouts.

Dean quickly pulls back. “I wasn’t. I would never.”

“He wasn’t hurting me. I promise. Dean loves me. Come here,” you say, opening your arms for her to snuggle up close again. She quickly complies and you tuck her in under the blankets.

Dean pats your leg. “Alright then. If I can’t kiss my wife then I’m gonna go clean up. You two get some rest.”

You watch as Dean disappears into the ensuite. After he closes the door you hear him grumble and Destiny snuggles closer. You can’t help but think that you should’ve helped her with the toothpaste. You silently thank Dean for cleaning up whatever mess she made and then lie down with Destiny. Letting her warmth and the cartoons on TV lull you back to sleep.

Hello and Welcome to the Tea Party! ☕️🫖

As stated in the mini bio, I’m 1/2 American, 1/2 Italian (si, parlo tutte due lingue ☺️). I’m also a huge Disney and Marvel fan. I used to be a huge super fan of Star Wars, but I left the fandom after Disney bought it. I still love most of it and celebrate May 4th, I’m just not active in it. I’m a big history buff, preferring to stay in the 1600-1790’s, mainly the Golden Age of Piracy and the American Revolution. I LOVE dragons (kind of an unhealthy obsession at this point, but you can never have enough dragons in my opinion) and am a big fan of the Eragon series. Recently, I’ve started to get more into book fandoms such as ACOTAR, TOG, FBAA, Fourth Wing, etc., so you might see me lurking over in those areas. However, I tend to bounce back and forth between different fandoms depending on my mood. I am over 21, but I would prefer not to disclose my age.

To clarify, I’m not a fanfic writer, but I am an avid fanfic reader. Please do not expect me to post stuff, I’m mostly using this account to be able to connect better with the fandoms that I am a part of.

As mean as it sounds, I will block people who have nothing more than a profile pic because of the scary amount of bots there are on this platform. It’s nothing personal, I’m just watching out for my own safety. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang—I will not accept critiques about this beautiful and uplifting masterpiece. Grandpa Potts is my favorite 🤣

James Bond—I’m here for Q. Desmond Llewyn was absolutely brilliant (fun fact, he was in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as well); I totally don’t recite the line about the grenade pen all the time. Ben Whishaw is at a very close second.

Austenland—Fantastic. I watch this every time I need a good laugh.

The Eragon Book Series—I refuse to watch the movie, as this is my all time favorite book and book series and I don’t want to ruin it for myself. Favorite characters being Angela, Murtagh, Sapphira, Solembum, Eragon, and Brom. I will occasionally read Murtagh x reader fanfics, but there are so few of them, that I read most of them years ago.

Harry Potter Series—Both books and movies. I also like the Fantastic Beast series. I’m going to be blatantly honest; I’m here for the dragons and Charlie Weasley. Don’t get me wrong, I love the stories and what not, but I have a giant fangirl moment every time he’s mentioned, in the stories, and/or I see dragons. I’m kind of like Lampie from Pete’s Dragon, except I get super excited about dragons, as they are my absolute favorites. 🐉

Hook—As stated with Peter Pan, one of my favorite characters of all time is Captain Hook. Dustin Hoffman was absolutely brilliant in this and I love the idea of Captain Hook facing an adult version of Peter. One of my favorite adaptations of the classic story. 🥹

The American Revolution—Not any film or story in particular, but I do love learning anything I can about the conflict and love the period. The exception to this is the TURN: Washington’s Spies series; I LOVE this series. Definitely my favorite TV series of all time. Hamilton the musical is fine, however I don’t care for Hamilton as a person, so it’s weird for me watching an entire production about him (he was pretty nasty in real life). King George was the only thing I really liked about it. Banastre Tarleton and the Culper Spy Ring are the two big things that I will devour information about the most as they are the most fascinating for me. If it weren’t for the fact that I am broke and don’t have time, I would absolutely join the re-enacting community for this time period.

The Golden Age of Piracy—As stated, I am a big fan of this time period. It spans a pretty long time time (most sources put it between 1690-1720, but there are many events that led to this giant boom and they started long before then), but I my favorite pirate/privateer out of all of them is Benjamin Hornigold. He was such a fascinating person and out of all of the pirates that are most famous, I would argue that he stuck to his moral code the most. Otherwise, same as American Rev; besides Pirates of the Caribbean, I don’t have any stories or films in particular. Black Sails is ok and Our Flag Means Death is hilarious, but I have a problem where I start screaming at the screen about how inaccurate it is (mostly with Black Sails. Out of all the things you could mess up, it shouldn’t be that hard to not mess up one of the biggest things in history that is associated with the start of the rise of piracy in the Caribbean, but apparently I’ve been proved incorrectly) 🤷🏽‍♀️.

I have no idea why I’m making this, I guess it’s an attempt to organize myself and to maybe see if there’s any interest in what I’m working on. Anyway, here’s a list of all my WIPs and what’s going on with them.

Series:

When You Were Mine: A good chunk of chapter 3 is written, I’ve slowly been working at it

Angels Cast The Shadows of Demons: Haven’t started Part 3

You Are The Daybreak: I have a little bit written for chapter 3

Jealous of The Nights: I have both a good chunk written for Part 2 and some for Part 3.

Among The Pines: I’ve written one sentence for chapter 11, no inspiration for it.

1920s!cop!au: Another Clay Appuzzo piece, I just have the first half written. I dunno if I’ll post it, I feel like not a lot of people read Clay fics anyway.

The Night That Never Ends: My first Stucky fic. A fic I’m trying to tell in the form of one of those murder shows. I dunno, its weird and angsty. So angsty.

18th Century au: Okay, this kinda covers several fics. A Bucky fic that's only got the beginning done. A Steve fic that has a bit of the beginning and a couple scenes

Duchess!Peggy: A couple of scenes written

Untitled Lance Tucker: Lance rips his lucky jacket. I’d say this is probably more than half finished.

Untitled Project: I dunno, I can’t explain this one. It would be my first enhanced!reader fic. Right now it’s really just a bunch of scenes & dialogue that I’ve had for it.

House Restoration au: Kind of a self-insert, I want to restore a super old house with Bucky. There are several ideas that I’ve had for this and I’m not sure which one I wanna go with.

Till Then: Sort of a mash-up of Turn & MCU set in modern au. Only the very beginning is written, not sure if I’ll continue.

Serial Doubter: Vamp!Laf piece, around halfway finished. I even wrote a prologue for it.

I’ll Wear Your Ring: I dunno, a Bucky fic (featuring Turn characters) I started a while ago. Sort of angsty. Mostly written

First Meeting: This was started for a write-a-thon forever ago, it’s set in the Too Late To Ever Feel The Same au, it’s the reader meeting Ben for the first time. About half written

Viking!Bucky: Sort of inspired by s3 of The Last Kingdom, viking!Bucky & seer!Reader. Just the very beginning is done.

Meeting John André Would Include...

You would meet André maybe at a gala or at the theater, or when you’re taking a turn about the garden

But it wouldn’t matter, because you would LITERALLY stop dead in your tracks

John André had a bit of a reputation around Philadelphia, but you wouldn’t care, regardless of where you were a Loyalist or not

Because he’s just so damn beautiful. Like, stop immediately talking to the person your with, drop your bag, handkerchief, whatever, type of beautiful.

But so are you, after all, he stopped to notice you as well

And maybe he walks over, a smirk on his face, watching your every move as you pretend to not stare at him

You wrestle with your mind to turn back around and head the other direction or keep on walking, but you are powerless to the strong gaze he holds on you

“I beg your pardon,” He world say, “Have I passed you by before? Or seen you in the area?”

Maybe he had seen you, or you had noticed him before. He was the kind of person who was hard to forget, but you shake your head, and squeak out a, “No.”

“Impossible,” He would step back on his heels before bending low, taking your hand to kiss it gently as he bowed. You can feel the smile on his lips even as they scald your skin, even as you feel branded by his touch, “I would have noticed your presence.”

You blush. Maybe the person beside you clears their throat or gives you a sideways glance, they break your attention away from the attractive major.

“Are you always quite this forthcoming, Major André?” You cast your friend a sideways glance, regaining some of your composure, and half of the wit you were known for

He casts a wicked smile in your direction, “Ahh, so you have heard of me.”

You chuckle at his charm, “Half the eligible people of Philadelphia have heard of you, Major. You seem to be quite a popular topic these days.”

He blows you away, even in such small interactions. His intelligence and charm are unmatched, and rightfully so.

“Then you have discussed me?” He would ask, coy and composed.

You know you have, but you would never dare to admit such a thing. You knew what he looked like - most of the time he was dressed in the snappy uniform of a redcoat, but oh, the other moments when he was dressed in a flowing white shirt and tight breeches.

“Only, perhaps, in passing,” You responded, just as coy.

There was a knowing glance between the two of you, the tension in the air thick enough to cut with a bayonet.

Let the games begin, you thought. Major André had met his match.

TURN!John André x reader

You should have known better, should have been able to read between the lines a little clearer. It was a painful jab at your expectant emotions, yet a somewhat embarrassing moment that would pass, but not soon enough.

The toe of your shoe begins to tap a little impatiently, as if you were guilty of doing so. However, after over two hours, you absolutely had the right to succumb to that inkling prying at the back of your head.

Brushing a rogue thumb across your cheek, you clear your throat, taking a deep breath, quick to check your phone once more to possibly offer the slightest benefit of the doubt.

To awaited disappointment, you are not surprised by the results. Sighing, you go to gather your things, reach for your wallet to pay the bill on the one stupid beer you had, when all of the sudden a familiar voice reaches your ears, and you find it hard to believe.

“The bastard stood you up, didn’t they?”

Your hand comes up to stifle the temptation of crying, biting harshly on your knuckle as you nod bitterly, unable to meet the man’s eye. Instead, he slides into the booth across from you, tucked in the back, away from anyone else in the restaurant.

“y/n, I am very sorry,”

Your mind is now full of questions, each fighting to come forth out of your mouth first, but the only thing you can muster is a weak smile.

“I was worried about you, you know.“

The man mumbles, hands clasped tightly in front of him on the table, the whites of his knuckles brightening.

“I should have known better,”

You insist, running a finger under your eyes to wipe away brimming tears.

“Who would wait two hours for someone? I should have left after twenty minutes.”

“You are hopeful, as well as kind hearted. And there is nothing wrong with that.”

André insists, and you know he means that with all he has. The bastard is lucky they didn’t show up, lest they have to meet the man you could never dare to argue with.

His hands unlock, and one comes across the table to hold yours. His hands are warm, large enough that his fingers splayed come to your wrist, thumb running slowly up and down across the skin.

“I’m sorry,”

You choke, staring at the table indefinitely, like it would have some sort of answer to an otherworldly question.

“What for?”

“You always having to be there for me. It must be exhausting,”

It’s meant to be a dry joke, to attempt to lighten the tone, however, John seemed genuinely offended.

“No, do not say such things. It would not be true—the amount of times you have been asked to do something well surpassed the scope of our relationship is beyond me. You are always there for me when I need you, please let me return the favor,”

Lamely, you nod, finally regaining control as your eyes drift towards his own gaze.

“Now, what is it that you wish to do?”

You hardly want to stay here any moment longer, a tad fearful they would still show up and make you very uncomfortable very quickly.

However, sitting in this corner of the place with John, you now find it a little difficult to want to leave.

He made you instantly feel better, with that soft smile of his.

“I’d like to stay, for a bit. If that’s alright with you,”

A passing look of…something crosses his face, but he’s quick to recover, and never lets go of your hand, all while smiling gently at you.

“Whatever you want,”

John wouldn’t dare say it now, as much as his heart thrums wildly in his chest at the touch of your hand in his. Especially in this moment, he wishes for you to be happy, to smile—and yet someone has stolen that smile from you.

He’d tell you just how much he loves you, soon.

Just not today. He’d rather be here for you, and he’d take the sacrifice of pushing his feelings aside just to get you out of this.

After all, that’s what he’s here for.

Thinking alike but not quite, you can feel your heart hammering in your chest, and don’t dare to move your engulfed hand a single centimeter.

Nothing could pull you from this evening of roller coaster emotions, and if you weren’t so tripped up on this one fleeting moment, then maybe, maybe—you’d have the nerve to tell the man just how much you loved him.

For another day, you suppose.
