Trying to write Captain America fanfiction and not only do I have to research 1930-40s Brooklyn, but also at this point 2014 America too because that was almost 10 years ago and I don't remember what was happening ☠️

you seem to have a good read on HQ and your takes are great, so i have a question...and if you'd rather not go there, please ignore this! but i see oikawa get called "arrogant" quite often and i'm curious, would you say he is? what is it that makes people think that? imo he has a plenty of flaws, but i truly don't think arrogance is one of them. self-centered, sure, but not arrogant i think. i'm open to being wrong, i'm just legit so confused by that particular criticism, it makes me doubting my reading comprehension. i feel like that one post that's like "free my man, he didn't do that. he did a lot of other stuff tho" LOL. if you do answer this, then thanks for your time!

oh, dear anon. this is a very very big question and i'm honored you think i am capable of providing an answer that does it justice!! i don't consider myself an oikawa expert by far, but i'll do my best because he's still very beloved to me, and i hope whatever i say helps!

(but also - maybe take what i say with a grain of salt LMAO)

anyways, to get the main point out of the way: i completely agree that oikawa isn't arrogant! i actually haven't seen any commentary about that myself (bless!!!), so i can't say for sure why some people might think that, but my guess is that they think his pridefulness = arrogance — they think that the confidence he has in himself and seijoh contributes nothing to their actual power and is utterly meaningless if they don't win, especially in the face of ushijima. which, like, come on. what kind of captain would he be if he wasn't confident in himself and his teammates? is he supposed to tell them that they're going to lose??? is he supposed to discourage their hard work and effort???

or maybe it's because oikawa acts like he's all that, but doesn't have anything to show for it. who does he think he is? what does he think his pride is worth? what right does he have to go around making grand declarations when he has nothing to his name?

(which isn't entirely true, either, but we'll get into that, promise.)

now, do i think that he can, occasionally, be flippant, shallow, and/or petty? yeah, sure. he's got one hell of a personality about it. even iwaizumi says as much. oikawa is great at being a little shit. it's one of my favorite things about him!

but is oikawa genuinely arrogant, or self-centered? well . . . i don't think so.

see, here's the thing about oikawa: he knows he's good, but he doesn't think he's good enough. i think it'd be easiest to really explain what that meant if we broke this down into two separate parts, so let's give it a go, shall we?

(buckle up, friends, because it's about to get LONG. also: TIMESKIP SPOILERS!! and there's a tldr at the start of the tags because. WOW.)

so, first things first: if people are calling oikawa arrogant, then i'm like 99% sure that they don't actually know what the word "arrogant" means.

"arrogant" is used to describe someone full of themselves. it's used to describe someone conceited and pompous. it's used to describe someone so assured of and invested in their self-importance that they don't care for other people, and if it seems like they do, then it's usually wildly off the mark and still serves to inflate their own egos.

oikawa has never once been like that. he's been pretty much the exact opposite, in fact.

and yeah, sure, by his third year of high school, he knows he's good at volleyball, and that's fine! it's perfectly all right to claim you're good at something if you have the skills/experience to back it up. confidence is healthy as long as it isn't in overabundance, and we actually see a lot of this throughout the series!

(not to mention that this was where ushijima fell short. he was overflowing with confidence. he did not believe, for even a single second, that hinata shouyou and his meager, scrappy little flock of crows could beat him.

but oikawa? he knew. he knew what it looked like to make something bloom.)

the key to oikawa's confidence that made him better was that he could pinpoint others' strengths and weaknesses just as well as he could with his own. and (bear with me, please, i might get kind of boring here bc it's nothing that hasn't been said in the manga before) i don't mean it in the way we see the coaches or more analytical players do, as observations to be taken advantage of by everyone else; i mean that in the sense of how vital it is to his position as a setter. that was always the biggest difference between oikawa and kageyama: no matter how much more raw talent kageyama had, no matter how much better oikawa believed him to be, kageyama, especially in the beginning, struggled to do what oikawa could with a team. kageyama struggled to bring out the best in each player. and it wasn't because he didn't know how -- oikawa freely admitted that kageyama had the skill for it, that kageyama, once he got his shit together, could win against him -- it was because kageyama didn't have that same confidence in himself.

(not until much later, anyways. but that's another story, for another time.)

so, oikawa's confident. he knows he's good. he can bring out the best in each player. he's got a killer serve (and a killer smile!), a mind for tactics that borders on machievallianism, and cherishes the trust he is given like it's something precious. his coaches let him lead without leaning on them. his team has the utmost respect and admiration for him. he has a reputation. from karasuno to shiratorizawa to the whole of miyagi -- there is not a single character who knows oikawa tooru and would believe that he is, in any way, bad at volleyball.

but it's not enough. despite all of that, oikawa still doesn't think he's good enough. and that, friends, brings us to the second point.

oikawa tooru is nothing if not passionate.

so were the others, of course. kageyama kept going after his grandfather's death. hinata kept going while being a nobody from nowhere with no one to back him up. atsumu kept going while osamu didn't. it's not even about just those who went pro -- kenma, kuroo, noya, and everyone else found things that they were passionate about and kept going with it. the entire story revolves around loving what you do and trying to keep that love alive, and, sometimes, that can be really, really difficult when it seems like it doesn't love you back.

oikawa was so insecure over kageyama to the point where he nearly decked the poor kid. oikawa got crushed by ushijima-- who kept telling him that his team was not good enough, that his choices were not good enough, that there was nothing good enough to be proud of -- for years in a row. oikawa was taught that there would always be someone better than him no matter how skilled he was, but if he let that stop him then he didn't fucking belong on the court in the first place.

oikawa tooru is intimately acquainted with not being good enough, but he keeps trying to be. he keeps going. he tries to keep the love alive even if he's not loved back. he pushes and practices and takes a plane far from home to become even better. even if he doesn't have the skill, even if he doesn't have the talent, even if he doesn't have the love -- he still has his pride. and what does that mean, in the end? how far does that take him?

in the end, oikawa tooru walks across a world stage and sees people who believed in him on the other side and calls it a family reunion. in the end, he gets to play the volleyball that reminds him of why he loves it and how it gives him so much love back. in the end, his pride is unyielding and unbreakable, a product of the forge. he molded it with his own two hands. he will not let it falter so easily.

arrogance would not have taken oikawa tooru this far. i hope this has proven that he is anything but.

remember: instinct is something you polish. talent is something you make bloom. and never, ever let anyone else tell you what your pride is worth.

All your characters got arrested, oh no! What crimes did they commit to land them in jail (and which ones could talk their way to freedom)?

Thanks for the ask! So glad I managed to make it here before midnight.

Let's categorize these. You said all characters so this is a long one. Every character of importance in TSP. Not just the core cast. But I'm not doing minor characters lol. And SOTL isn't developed enough I'm not going too crazy with this.

Also I'm likely to be vague about the specifics of the arrest to get the sense of their personalities. Also I think I'll include a few arrests now that I think about it. Thanks!

Least likely to break the rules

Carmen - her whole thing is doing things The Way They Are Supposed To Be Done. She would have to be driven to quite the breaking point. She's extremely loyal, more so than people think. So if it comes between her and her loyalty she may just break the law out of loyalty. Could she talk her way out of freedom? Eh she'd yell but she'll need help. If she managed to get the upper hand and control the situation maybe but I doubt it.

Noelle - similar to Carmen though with an intense loyalty mainly through blood family, but her problem is following the law. May be arrested if she oversteps her power. She could be pushed for murder. Could not talk her way out. Punch, sure.

Lexi - I think this poor girl would cry if she were arrested. Also a loyalty thing to push her, but it would be a long time coming. In a state of emotional turmoil she may do something drastic. Actually I know she will. Could be pushed for murder. Can talk her way out if she manages to calm down.

Akash - probably would have a crisis if arrested too. If pushed really far could get into a physical fight but honestly it would be hard getting him arrested. He could easily talk his way out. Probably by annoying someone.

Gabriel - oh man. He's arrested because it's someone else's fault. He would never intentionally. He probably caved enough to help a little bit but then got over his head and got arrested for kahoots. Probably could talk his way out.

CJ - more easily coerced to do illegal things than Gabriel but it also will be for helping someone else. Could talk his way out.

Hye-Jin - if someone provoked her she will provoke back, so that's a prerequisite. Something personal probably came up and she was defending someone. Doing the right thing kind of deal. Probably could not talk herself out.

Kelsey - same as above but she will definitely get physical and lose control of her powers. Could not talk herself out but if calm she could complain up a storm.

Would do something illegal

Gwen - won't consider breaking the law unless she has personal stake in it. That being said she would steal something. Maybe even something classified. If possible, she can use others weaknesses to get out of a situation. It has to be just right for her.

Jedi - mans would break the law more if he wasn't so conflict adverse. He wants to uproot the system trust me. If he manages to crawl out of the hole he has dug himself, that. I don't think he could talk himself out.

Robbie - probably vigilante justice. Yes he could talk his way out. Even annoy his way out.

Teo - could be arrested for anything honestly. If dedicated he will just do things on a whim with no regard for the law. Could talk himself out I think.

Wade - also vigilante justice. Probably trying to expose a corrupt government. Could talk himself out.

Issa - you'd think she would never break a rule but she will. If she's pissed off enough. If you get her to that point run. Capable of seriously injuring you. Could talk her way out.

Carla - what she needs is a confidence boost and then she'd easily be able to break the law. She would do something relatively minor, no violence involved, usually for another person's benefit. She'd try to talk her way out but 50/50 if it works.

Ewan - has the confidence to break the law but he wouldn't want to do it alone I feel. A sense of justice seems to be common in this section. Might be able to talk his way out, surprising many.

Tyler - yeah he would break the law if something was stupid. The kind of person who would break a law for the sole purpose of proving how dumb it was. Probably could talk his way out of it.

Anathi - would break the law because he hasn't exactly interacted with people before. He doesn't know what's going on other than that it doesn't sound right. Could not talk his way out.

Raissa - well I mean she has murdered and kidnapped and overthrown a government for herself so. Yeah she could be arrested for those things. I'd say she be able to talk herself out of it. But some things you cannot talk yourself out of.

Atsila - yeah extortion or trying to overthrow a government sounds right. She's confident she did the right thing and will be able to talk her way out of it. She cannot

Liam - bro could overthrow the government and be able to talk himself out of it. But honestly he's more likely to do smaller scale things. Could break into places or maybe spy.

Xitlali - same as Liam only she'd actually decided to overthrow the government

Love rule breaking

Rose - the girl has been emotionally repressed for years she has a lot of steam to burn. Probably could just be graffiti though. I think she has it in her to talk herself out of the situation.

Niri - honestly I don't think he'd be caught. He's so unassuming but he has a huge rebellious streak. Would take a lot of rule breaking to get him caught. Might be persuaded to break a bigger law which would get him caught. He can't speak orally but has the potential to "talk" himself out if he's given the means.

Maddie - physically attacking someone for sure. Maybe something really bad due to her shapeshifting abilities. So many animals are deadly. She won't feel any guilt. She'd try to defend herself. Could not talk out of a situation.

Ash - she'd break the law in pursuit of her own pleasure. Drugs, doing other crimes to get drugs. I can't imagine the mess she'll be as an adult let alone now. Could not talk her way out. Psychic powers may be activated.

Parker - he'll break the law because he's bored. Get arrested for the thrill. Can 100% talk himself out of most situations.

Jazlyn - slightly more bothered than Parker about getting arrested but she had fun doing it. More likely to be for an emotional reason if it's really bad though. She'll deny it. Yes she can talk herself out.

Sam - probably she got emotionally compromised and lashed out at something. Maybe also was doing it for a thrill ride to cover something bothering her. Honestly could talk herself out of the situation once she calms down.

Alex - less bothered than Sam for sure. May bring a few friends in, too. Will have so much fun doing it she won't think of the consequences. Could talk herself out of it unless she's unfamiliar with the law she broke.

some thoughts on character in tristamp and trimax

now i still havent yet watched trigun98 or read trimax past like the first 2 chapters yet, but from what i understand, the characteristics of nai and vash are different to tristamp. i LOVE tristamp and i love vash. i love kind and soft characters. characters who are just kind, who refuse to fall into apathy. who prove that kindness is a strength not many are able to carry. and i love nai too (aside from him being a creep those last few eps) someone who, feels responsible and has a need to keep his head at all times. to be the realistic one. someone who saw an injustice and firmly decided he would end it no matter the cost (not that i agree with his genocidal plan that also hurt plants that he was supposed to be protecting)

what i have found out is that in the original trigun, nai was actually the soft and kind one until Tesla, and vash became the kind one afterwards in a way to i guess be more like the old nai? and this is more realistic and hurts more to see. (hurts in a delicious way) like you have a kind character who gets brutally exposed to the horrors humanity is capable of. who (im guessing) for survival and a sense of justice is forced to grow up too fast and choose to do something (here he is like the tristamp nai) and its always painful to see the soft character turn angry and resentful. 

vash tho, who saw what happened to nai, who also went thru the brutal exposure to human cruelty, went the other way. now since i havent read trimax yet, i cant tell what turned him to be vash the stampede. was it guilt the way it was in tristamp? or was it to keep a part of nai alive despite nai killing that part of himself? was tristamp rem’s dream trimax nai’s dream and vash is working to make it a reality? ill know in the next few days as i read. but what my point here is that in trimax vash CHOOSES to be kind. he has anger in him, he’s not as soft as tristamp, and he its “naturally” kind. he actively chooses to be kind over and over again. i think thats a lot more realistic to us. most of us arent naturally kind and we always have our breaking points. tristamp vash didnt really have that but trimax vash is so painfully human in the sense that he feels so much anger but keeps it locked. he chooses to be the kindness he wants to see in the world. 

i guess you can say both trimax and tristamp vash are kind of insane in their way of firmly staying kind. tristamp vash for being naive and childlike almost in his way of being too nice, and trimax for deciding to stick to being nice and lock a part of himself away. 

anyways im just rambling. i just wanted to get some observations down before i read trimax and see how much of this ends up being wrong. this is so long lol highly doubt ppl will read but if u did, pls share ur thoughts i need more ppl to talk to about this series. its taking over my brain and this fandom has such high literary and media literacy, some beautiful analysis, and straight up poets and writers and artists that put shakespeare and whatever artist to shame lol

Headcanon dump, exclusive to the Game universe:

Werner Werman is an unstable, violence fanatic mouse who tried get in the military in an ongoing war between rodents and felines, but his attempt was rejected as he didn't meet the requirements. Maybe he went to the Inkwell Isles trying to find an easier way to get into any conflict at all.

He needed to go to war because it was the only way he could satisfy his hunger to kill and commit violence without being punished for it, he actually was confident that he would turn into a war hero and that the military was missing out. However, because of his upbringing, he used the excuse of patriotism to rodents as motivation, it even got to the point of believing this was his true reason.

As a last resort to participate in the war, he built a giant cat robot to wreack havoc around mice populations. In his mind, this was a twisted way of actually helping his kin, they would need to enlist more rodents to battle, and that's when he, the war hero and untapped potential, would manage to get in. (Maybe he even took the chance to apply his own justice, assaulting prisons or places he deemed corrupted, using the robotic cat to kill all rodents he saw as criminal or evil while also enjoying the chaos he caused)

I'm still not sure when he would reach out to the Devil, but he would go to the casino to speak to him after hearing rumours (He never went to the casino before, as all his addictions were somewhere else). I don't know if he goes to learn to make the robotic cat (Maybe to learn to build machinery in general) or to turn into a war hero quicker, but... I got two options for the results of this.

1) Thanks to selling his soul (and maybe also his plan with the cat) he finally is among the troups, although soldiers greatly doubt the mouse's and the recruiter's sanity when seeing Werman being a freaking lunatic, building crazy machines and just charging into battle with way too much confidence, as well as treating the rest as inferior.

Or.

2) The Devil just gives him the illusion of being a war hero by taking advantage of Werner's poor and vague wording (That has nothing to do with his accent, btw, I see Devil as capable of understanding almost any language so he and Werman can perfectly speak to each other in German). To do that, he gives the mouse medals and stuff like that through other mediators so that Werman doesn't realise about the scam, and the mouse just happily goes home, feeding more on his delusions. He even recieves fake letters from supossed military authorities, requesting his inventions and some services made to make him go around, destroy things and kill more to bring more souls to hell. Now he was part of the Devil's machine without realising.

Why is he now a debtor? Maybe he realised about the scam and got angry at the Devil, stealing the soul contract through violent ways. And if he got into the military, he could have been finally kicked out after everyone realised that having him there was a bad idea, he gets angry at the Devil because the big guy couldn't keep him in (Because of course this wasn't Werman's fault- pfff) and steals the contract through violent ways.

Now he doesn't come out of the hole in the wall he calls home, although saying he isn't scared of the Devil and that he would beat him up any day (He wouldn't).

Or maybe-

Headcanon 2: The dude is just an actual war vet who dealt with the Devil to make a mechanical cat that worked as a guard to the house because he doesn't like to have other mice around in his retirement. Tho idk why he'd turn into a debtor but this option is funny. (Thanks random YouTube comment by Shiru Otakuno for the idea of the cat as a guard dog)

This is based on Justice league,crisis on two earth's ending plot

The hero arrives to a barren exo planet ,instead of finding a bomb and a man , he finds a being with no discernable features writing notes next to a massive machine

"Who are you,where's am i?" The hero with an unbreakable said

"You are where you need to be... all that happened was a lie to get you here...as I wish to ask your opinion on a nihilistic dilema as your world view is perfect...for the answer that is needed"

The hero took a moment and asked, "So there's no bomb?"

The mysterious being "no there isn't ,....this world represents the true earth prime as nobody is truly capable of getting to it...,I wanted to see what happened here and why the writers nihilistically made this planet a barren exo planet,so I made a machine...to look into the past of this planet and what I saw...answered everything nihilistic, however I wanted to see if it would be the same for you,hero if it is the same ...it speaks volumes about life...on why we are here on why humanity exist"

The hero walked over as his curiosity of the answer of life took over he took the headset... and watched

What he saw was history taking place on a planet with no hero, no villains, a planet, just like what the reader you read

And then a cut to the now

"It ended...suddently...and so far it appears nothing is good at all," the hero replied

"The same thing I saw,the same thing I live in... now to the answer of life...life is nihilistic always has been, life is finite and harsh and all that nature and life can do is live with the time it can...however at the same time it appears to fight ,fight against this nihilistic view... the outcome was humans... and the outcome wasn't quite as expected. Humans ended up working against nature in many ways and using it..tearing and destroying what little life there is ,even also tearing itself apart... and yet life and humans kept going ,eventually reaching to a modern time where the nihilistic values fight against the morals human placed upon themselves, in a world that is many shades of grey,neutral.. no heroes even tho they try to make some almost as false idols in a way and evil people those perhaps who are nihilistic in world view... not even speaking about the selfishness in humanity as well humans repeated the same mistakes time and time again ,even teaching passed down from history did not work to quell the onslaught of mistakes, now these people are on the verge of war that it will end up in disaster...,the reason you are here and now is due to these people's, once these people are gone its over all life that there is in your world and countless stories they've written it will never end as a story should"

The hero listened, "And why did you bring me here?" The hero will finally begin to waver as reality sits in

"I brought you here as a final attempt a hope that the people...of my world would listen but I doubt they will as always as I am a small writer nobody would ever listen or read anything I do as I am a nobody after all ,my people live in delusion and over all the 7 sins, and it's tearing itself appart,I know they will deny these warnings yet again,the only thing that keeps me going is a legend or perhaps myth based on religion ,also if a bomb ever went off here nothing would happen...you perhaps will forget this encounter as soon as you leave or perhaps remember it...I do not know as after this I bear no control over you hero once you are gone from here now you should head home"

The hero was looking out at the stars. Having partially zoned out, "I have a question." he turned around to face the writer, and they were gone, and the portal home was open,the hero let out a sigh and walked over

"Farwell hero"

The hero heard just as the portal closed behind him he was home, and it's unknown if he will ever remember the encounter

Being in love with Mingyu is about taking care and being taken care of.

The man KNOWS he's handsome and you bet he's gonna be cocky about this to his person :D He will use this to tease his partner a lot lol. Affectionate, tho not always, but rather out of the blue, and at the most random times even. He and his person could be sitting on the couch, watching a horror movie, then all of a sudden, when the scene turns spooky, he would just blurt out "I love you", making his person goes "OK?!?!". Random hugs and kisses are also expected, too. All of this childish, cutesy lovely things are available for his love on only.

Mingyu can act like a kid sometimes, seeking attention from his person 24/7, but deep down, he really wants to be someone that his lover can lean on 24/7. He'd prepare every single thing, from head to toes, from start to finish, not letting them touch anything (basically, a malewife). He wants them to look for him whenever they caught up with something. He wants to be the one they reach out first whenever they need help. He's also someone who doesn't want conflicts, so when he and his lover fight, he'll go to the bottom of the story and try to resolve the situation asap. He'd also be very considerate about his person's feeling, too.

He can be a little bit of a perfectionist when it comes to preparing a date. Everything in a date has to be just like how he wanted and just like how his partner wished for it to be. The place where the date happens has to be beautiful, aesthetic pleasing, Instagram worthy :D. And there's no doubt, he will also choose the most beautiful flowers, gather them all in a bouquet to give it to his partner. He'll prepare it all y'all. He will want to look nice on the date, too. He's definitely gonna dress himself up, do his hair and makeup like so like that. Mingyu wants to be at his best when he's with his lover. He wants them to remember him with all of his best traits. But, he doesn't really know how, and he doesn't ask his partner for their opinion either so it can get a little bit troublesome :D

He's sooooo gonna spoil his lover. "Here is my card. Buy whatever you want", yep, yep he is gonna do this (me when?). Couple stuffs (rings, necklaces,…), something that is not too obvious but if you know, you'll know :D (like moon and sun necklaces, key and lock necklace,…). When he really trusts his partner, he'll give all of his beloved/personal stuffs for them to keep.

He also has a possessive side in love. At the very least, he doesn't want anyone to take even a glance at his lover :D If one dares to, he'll make sure that that person know that they are off-limit somehow. He's committed to the relationship, even before entering it (he won't be like texting multiples people at once or giving mix signals,…), and he expects his partner to be the same.

At the moment, Mingyu is not in the right shape to entering in a relationship, even if he wants to. He still has a lot of personal things to taking care of before romancing. He's a clumsy boy, even in love. The man is rather inexperience, so if he ever gets into a relationship later on, he will be soooo clueless at times and he won't know how to act at all. His lover will have to teach him a lot about how love and relationship work.

He doesn't know, or think he is capable of doing this yet, but once he meets the one he love, he is willing to change for his partner. And in the beginning of the relationship, he might find it hard to express his feeling, because again, he doesn't know how :D His partner could take this as he's not affectionate, but it's not true at all. Poor boy is just a little bit confused 😆

plum drop the essay on fuyu/peko and mondo/taka paralelles !!!! i am curious

ask and u shall recieve (inserting my first ever page break because holy FUCK this got long) 

oke! I guess I’ll start off with Peko’s initial conception as a character, which was the main initial comparison danganronpa intended between Peko and Kiyotaka.

I’ve noticed danganronpa has a tendency to re-use character tropes or roles after each game, tho their fates end up differently. For example, Chihiro was the smart, cute, and sweet character who ended up dying early on and had little significance outside of alter ego afterwards. Chiaki is the same, except if Danganronpa took Chihiro’s character and made her one of the main protagonists that has much more significance in the game. 

The staff of SDR2 confirmed that they based Peko off of Kiyotaka, from their intense red eyes (which was intentional) + predominately b&w colorscheme, they both have swords, and their characters are tied to justice, though in different ways. Not to mention both are meant to be extremely disciplined, but ultimately struggle at socializing due to their rough backstories. But that’s where Peko’s ties to Taka as an initial concept end there, because the parallels between Peko/Taka and Fuyuhiko/Mondo are a whole ‘nother ballpark.

Before bringing that up though, we should note that while their designs are significantly different, Mondo and Fuyuhiko are extremely similar in terms of their backstory and personality (down to their ability to curse like a sailor). Both struggle with an inferiority complex (Fuyuhiko w/ how he isn’t taken seriously because of his babyface, Mondo w/ how his self esteem is really fragile and gets jealous of others when he acknowledges them to be stronger than him). Both act like tough, aggressive lone-wolfs (well, Mondo pre-sauna anyways), but have been stated to have a soft side, to the point they doubt their capabilities of being a tough leader because of it. They both even have a sibling they both believe would be a better leader than them (Daiya and Natsumi). BASICALLY fuyuhiko and mondo are the same role, being the intimidating gang leader that no one should fuck with, but in actuality has a lot of insecurities behind that facade. 

Ok, ok, time to the ACTUAL relationship parallel analysis. We now know why Peko/Taka are meant to be parallels, and we can definintely make a solid claim for Fuyuhiko and Mondo. This isn’t new for Danganronpa, in their tendency to use patterns but give them a different twist depending on the game. Which is exactly what happened in  regards to chapter 2 of THH and SDR2, respectively.

The games’ chapter 1s are simple: meant to introduce the characters/game/stakes. Leon and Sayaka’s deaths were tragic, but the emotional impact of them wasn’t the main priority by the writers. Only to show that this was, indeed, a Killing Game where anyone’s possible to die. But chapter 2 of danganronpa is intended to be the chapter where you’re introduced to just how emotional and tragic the games can actually be, meant for maximum heartbreak (for both the characters and the player).

Chapter 2 of THH was where the different students’s relationships between each other became more solid. Sakura and Aoi were good friends. Toko’s obsession for Byakuya first solidified. Hifumi being Celeste’s servant, etc. Taka and Mondo’s fast developed friendship is no different. After the sauna, the two clicked so much that they believed calling each other just a friend wasn’t really accurate, and settled on calling each other brother instead. While they don’t have memories of their close friendship during Hope’s Peak at this time, it’s heavily implied that their closeness during that time made them subconsciously gravitate towards each other so fast, which could also be seen with Sakura and Aoi, and how Chihiro was able to find Makoto familiar during their introduction. 

Peko and Fuyuhiko’s relationship could be considered to be just as close. The two grew up together, quite literally since they were kids. Like Taka and Mondo’s relationship pre-sauna, Fuyuhiko and Peko’s relationship was somewhat strained, though it’s more deeply rooted than two extremely contrasting guys clashing over their perceptions of each other. Fuyuhiko is extremely insecure in his place as the Kuzuruyuu clan’s head, and sees Peko’s desire to protect him and carry out his commands as an unwanted crutch that challenges his desire to be independent, as well as extremely worrying considering how because of this, Peko devalues her own life and worth as a person. Fuyuhiko very much loves Peko as a person, and as such tried to distance himself from her during their time on Jabberwock Island. Though unfortunately, Peko took this as him loathing her in general, further cementing her desire to be his “tool” because if he couldn’t stand being around her, she might as well make herself useful to him.  

Now. Finally to get into the explicit parallels between the relationships of Kiyotaka/Mondo, and Peko/Fuyuhiko. Peko and Taka’s perspective on their relationships is a great starting point. 

Each game’s chapter 2 shows just how willing both Taka and Peko are willing to go in order to protect Mondo and Fuyuhiko. Peko’s motive for killing Mahiru wasn’t to escape, but to in her eyes save Fuyuhiko from the Killing Game, by using herself as his tool to carry out muder, and have everyone incorrectly vote for her so Fuyuhiko could get away. She was his bodyguard in the truest sense of the word. Now in THH’s chapter 2, instead of fighting against Mondo in proving his guilt, you’re fighting Kiyotaka. He refuses any evidence you throw at him, arguing relentlessly to prove Mondo’s innocence, to the point the only reason he stopped was because Mondo told him to. And you later find out, in chapter 3, that Kiyotaka felt so determined to prove Mondo’s innocence was because he felt like it was his responsibility to, as he cared for Mondo so much. 

So, in a way, Taka considers himself Mondo’s bodyguard. Just without the years worth of reinforcement that you’re nothing but a tool to be used which makes you devalue your own worth as a person. (Not that his self esteem and willpower wasn’t ultimately crushed by Mondo’s execution, but that’s only because the circumstances he lost him was undenyingly brutal considering the Killing Game). While the circumstances of Peko’s desire to protect Fuyuhiko are really murky and problematic considering how she was raised, Danganronpa confirmed that she protected him so much because of her care for him, to the point she was willing to sacrifice her own life to assure that Fuyuhiko is safe. And Kiyotaka was willing to go to the exact same drastic measures, by voting for himself. 

It’s also worth noting that in the stage play, he willingly accepted to be punished alongside him by doing this to make sure Mondo doesn’t die alone. 

So from my own understanding, Super Danganronpa 2 took the tragedy of Mondo and Taka’s relationship, and flipped it so that while it still follows its signature use of repetitive patterns, they made the circumstances different, but just as heartbreaking. And how? Because they took the Taka of the relationship, and made Peko the culprit. It’s not the Mondo this time, which is who you’re supposed to expect to be the culprit, because of your expectation from THH’s trial 2. 

Peko tried her best to protect Fuyuhiko, much like Kiyotaka tried to after he recognized the fact Mondo was the blackened. Both were, at the expense of their classmate’s and their own lives, were willing to protect them both, no matter what. Peko took a more active role in trying to do this however, which is what Kiyotaka severely regretted not doing, as stated in chapter 3. 

And Fuyuhiko is what would have happened if Mondo was forced to face the consequences of his actions (in Fuyu’s case, being partially responsible for Mahiru’s death, in Mondo’s case, Chihiro’s). Instead of Taka arguing to prove Mondo’s innocence, it’s Fuyuhiko who’s doing that for Peko. A deliberate use of subverting the pattern given to us by THH’s chapter 2.  

That’s the main takeaway, but I suppose I should also address the romantic parallels while I’m at it. I personally don’t like Kuzupeko as a romantic relationship, mainly because of how Peko’s self worth and personal value of herself as a person was as a direct result from being considered Fuyuhiko’s “tool” and their professional relationship as yakuza leader/henchman. Fuyuhiko does love her as a person, but that doesn’t negate the years of psychological degradation Peko endured to consider herself as a tool. Though in typical Danganronpa fashion, they choose to gloss over the problematic aspects of their relationship while heavily implying romantic subtext between them. So while I can’t say I’m a fan, I know the game/DR3 anime says otherwise. 

And as for Ishimondo, I know some will disagree with me, but I definitely feel that their relationship is heavily lined with romantic subtext as well. Not much is really explicit in the game outside of Ishida and Hifumi’s romantic rivalry for alter ego (who Taka considers Mondo), but the mangas and posters definitely show their relationship that most would consider normal for couples.

But at the end of the day? Both Peko and Taka love Fuyuhiko and Mondo, whether or not you consider both, one, or none of their relationship to be romantic. They wouldn’t have put their own lives on the line if it was anything else. And it’s that emotional connection between Kiyotaka and Mondo, and Peko and Fuyuhiko that’s meant to give you an emotional punch in the gut for THH and SDR2’S chapter 2’s, because of how far the two were willing to protect them.

i feel like i almost understand ur points on cas and his sense of morality and consequences but maybe im just like too tired rn i think im not quite grasping it. but like i do love to think about cas and morality and like. personally i think of cas as not reaching full moral development. like as in kohlberg’s theory of moral development, where cas does have a sense of morality that he follows but it might not be as complex as human beings that grow up learning about right and wrong. like it is very. rule based. and something is the right course of action, until it causes “bad” consequences or he receives some kind of punishment for it, and then it flips to being a wrong course of action. like it is all about consequence. if the consequence is bad, even if you couldn’t possibly have expected it from your actions, the actions are now bad, and you are bad, too, and now punishment is necessary. and i think what counts as a consequence might change for him before the reasoning does. like as an angel the only consequence was punishment by superiors, but by season 5, the destruction of humanity becomes a “bad” thing, and to some degree dean’s opinion of him is a consequence too. but more importantly it’s deans safety that is a consequence that matters. like if cas can’t stop dean from saying yes to michael, that will lead to dean being in danger, which would be bad, and cas should be punished for it. this is rambely im sorry abt that but yeah. i would love to hear more of ur thoughts on cas and his sense of consequences and punishment tho :)

I am extremely hesitant to judge morality that way because I think it lends to ethnocentricism. This isn’t to say I disagree with your interpretations, I just don’t personally like looking at it through that framework for various reasons.

I do really agree with this statement,��“if the consequence is bad, even if you couldn’t possibly have expected it from your actions, the actions are now bad, and you are bad, too, and now punishment is necessary,” which I think is very core to the ways in which angels perceive morality which is why believing in grand design is so essential. And that was very much what I was also getting at within my response on this post. I do think that like consequence being created by authority does lend into a moral development of law/rules not to abstract individualism and so forth, but I don’t think that it’s a matter of lack of development, and having those consequences in place don’t negate like consequence being something that goes against your own abstract moral reasoning (but then if you doubt that is immoral) which then does leave the later states of Kohlberg’s theory of moral development out unless very specifically your fall from the system, so I would agree with that, but I’m not fond of the framework because it’s more about cultural differences and putting that into stages of development implies lesser/higher which means we are fundamentally judging it from our human perspective which is different but not superior.

They have different moral standards that are also based around the unfathomable amount of time, through many mass extinctions and times of great distress, they’ve been alive.

I honestly believe that Cas sees any suffering as a negative consequence, he just keeps it more calculated in his head (the trolley problem wouldn’t be a conundrum to him) unless it becomes something personal (keeping the Winchesters safe, for example, regardless of who else it could hurt). There are other consequences, such as Dean’s perspective of him, that guide this, but he like fundamentally does not want any living creature to suffer. So I wouldn’t put that sort of consequential way of perceiving at a lesser standpoint in terms of like morality of right and wrong? But also I do think he associates violence against himself as response to his own fallacy. 

But if you’re looking at narrative in terms of this transition from angelic morality to human morality, yes Cas would then struggle within that new framework. This automatically also means he’s failed within his own which therefore implies rejecting rules through that doubt. So he runs into these issues of fundamentally shifting from one paradigm to another which then means he will be less capable of working within that new framework. 

Which like, the biggest issue for him I think lies that inability to differentiate consequence and actual capability of action. He therefore blames himself when he shouldn’t without being able to actually pinpoint where his impact went wrong. Which would make sense in the way of seeing moral development because he’s changing to action being of his own free will and all, so yeah, I agree to some extent. It’s more that he just then continues making the same mistakes that end with consequences against his morality which in turn means he can’t better himself.

“ Kohlberg’s final level of moral reasoning is based on universal ethical principles and abstract reasoning. At this stage, people follow these internalized principles of justice, even if they conflict with laws and rules.”

I would however disagree he doesn’t reach this point because the very act of doubting a system that brainwashing, lobotomises, and tortures you by having doubt based on your internalised principles of justice and dying for your own ethical principles that would deem you unethical by that standard would definitely be this point. It just doesn’t undo the fact the way he perceives action/inaction especially regarding himself and his own sense of self-blame won’t remain ingrained in how he was for hundreds of millions of years.

So like, in short, I definitely agree that shifting from one cultural standard of morality to another (which I personally would not like to judge by humanity’s standard’s) would mean Cas would have deficiencies in how to utilise his moral reasoning because it’s a framework contrary to what he’s known his entire life, even if he is willing to go against any set of laws or societal norms imposed upon him. But the very act of shifting from a moral set that requires complete faith in law to doubt it in itself would require strong abstract moral reasoning which he dies for in the first season, and from like the beginning of his introduction he is pushing the limits of what he should.

There were plenty of upsides to being Asgardian—increased reflexes and fighting skills, the ability to down enough liquor to make mortals stare, and of course your special power—the ability to heal physical wounds. Due to your fighting and healing abilities, the Avengers had taken you on as a valuable asset to their pursuit of justice. You had been on Midgard for a few years, now, and while it gave you great joy to be able to help, it was also the root of many of your problems.

You hadn’t been there when Asgard was ravaged by Thanos. Instead, you had been with the rest of the Avengers, discussing a possible threat in Seattle. You had felt the devastating pull in your gut that alerted you of something wrong in your home world. Instantly, you bolted to your feet, screaming for Heimdall to transport you so you could help in any way you can. You shouted your throat ragged, but you learned three unbearable days later that there was no more Bifrost tower and no Heimdall to defend it.

To make matters worse, you suffered not only the loss of your homeland, but also the presence of your best friend Thor. He had entered your room after those three days a broken shell of a man. You had tried to get through to him, to connect and mourn over your losses, but he had been nothing but cold to you.

“You cannot understand my grief,” he told you in a cold, distant voice you could barely recognize as his own.

“We are both Asgardians, Thor!” you cried. “We mourn for the same land—the land of our fathers and mothers before us.”

“And where were you when that land needed your help?” he snarled, turning and glaring at you.

“I screamed Heimdall’s name for an hour,” you spat indignantly, tears beginning to burn their way down your cheeks. “No one was there, it wasn’t my fault!”

“I had to watch my own brother die,” Thor choked, unable to control the tears welling up in his own eyes. “Thanos murdered him like he was merely an insect—but he was my brother. Do you have any idea—“

“Loki was also an acquaintance of mine, and I view his loss with no small sorrow. I cannot imagine the pain you must feel, my friend.”

“Friend,” Thor spat. “I hardly think so.”

“Please, Thor, rid yourself of this anger—I do not recognize you.”

“Perhaps it is for the better.”

With that, he spun Mjolnir and flew to gods-knew-where. You were so numb that it took you hours to notify Tony of the gaping hole through the building.

You stood stock-still, emotions swirling from shock to embarrassment to pure confusion as you took in the man in front of you. He hadn’t shown his face on Earth the whole five years, and you were completely shocked at what he had done to himself. “Thor?” you breathed. “Why are you—um—well—“

He looked down his nose at you, tilting his sunglasses down with the hand that wasn’t holding a can of beer. Squinting, he tried to realize who he was speaking to. His realization was so slow that you could literally see it blooming across his features. When he recognized it was you, he merely turned around, mumbling something about wanting a Bloody Mary. You stared blankly after him as he stumbled out of the room, your mouth hanging open.

“Not sure what happened there,” Steve said as he came up behind you. “Clearly he hasn’t been taking things well.”

“Yes, I can see that,” you managed.

“Are you doing okay? I know you guys had a fight of some kind the last time he was here.”

“Yes, yes. I’m going to see if I can talk to him and find out what’s going on,” you decided. “He cannot fight like this.”

“I agree,” Steve said, wishing you luck as he left to confer with Natasha.

Although you tried, you had no luck throughout the day in getting Thor alone—mostly due to the fact that you were in meetings nearly constantly, and he seemed to be in a drunken stupor for every single one. It was sort of the elephant in the room for everybody, and you could tell more than a few of them were wondering if he was even capable of fighting in this state. Even you had your doubts about your former friend, so you decided to take matters into your own hands.

As it happened, you didn’t get your chance until late that night, when most of the Avengers were in their rooms thinking about the subjects of the day’s meetings. Taking a deep breath, you set your jaw resolutely and made your way through the numerous corridors to Thor’s room. Your heart pounded, but you furrowed your brow defiantly. You were Asgardian, and you definitely had the strength to help Thor out of—whatever this was.

At least, you hoped so.

You knocked on the door and were met with silence for several moments. Raising your knuckles, you were just about to repeat your action when you heard a faint mumble.

“‘s there?”

“It’s me.” You inhaled deeply, praying you wouldn’t be electrocuted on the spot. There was another, even longer silence, before—

“C’me in.” You were floored at his response, but recovered and turned the doorknob softly. The sight you were met with broke your heart.

Thor sat on the floor, leaning against his bed with tears tracking their way down his face and into his beard. Cans of alcohol littered the floor, and you could smell the sickly-sweet stench from where you stood. You forgot the five years of silence in an instant and rushed to his side, sitting down next to him.

“Thor?” you managed, and he turned his tear-filled eyes on you. As he took in your worried face, his own crumpled and he began to sob anew, nearly falling into you as you wrapped your arms around him. You simply let him cry for a while, rubbing soothing circles on his back with your thumbs. Eventually, he sat back up, his motions slow and sad. “What is it?” you ask.

“Seeing my brother die—my home laid waste—how do I move past that? How can I live knowing what has happened? I was unable to save Loki or Asgard,” he said, his words falling with deadly conviction. His voice lowered even more as he finished. “I couldn’t—I couldn’t even save myself.”

“Oh, Thor,” you whispered. These five years must have been pure hell for him. His eyes were tortured as they looked into yours, and without thinking, you took his hand as you spoke.

“What you have witnessed will no doubt haunt you for the rest of your life. I say now as I did five years ago that while I mourn with you, I cannot fathom how deep your sorrow must be. I can tell it has plagued you these last five years, and I only wish I had tried to fix things earlier. Thor, you could not have done anything more to save our world and everyone in it. You may be a god, but that does not mean you do not have limits. You fought hard, my friend. And I am proud of you. I am.” He was watching you intently as you spoke, tears renewing themselves as you went on.

“But this—“ You motioned to the alcohol scattered around the room. “This is not like you. You do not deserve to fade away into nothing, brought down by your own devices. Instead, you must take your grief and rage and use it as motivation, use it to heal. Only then can you find within yourself what you so desperately need. And I will be here every step of the way to help you through.”

Thor’s eyes overflowed again, but this time you could sense relief radiating off him. He drew you in for another hug, and you held him tight, knowing this is what he had needed to hear all this time. “Thank you, my friend,” he whispered in your ear.

“I am happy to do it, Thor. I would do anything to help you,” you told him sincerely.

“I must also apologize from the depths of my heart for shutting you out. The only thing my actions accomplished was create more hurt for both of us. I needed you by my side and instead I pushed you away.”

“It was only natural, Thor. You were grieving and were unsure of how to handle yourself. All is forgiven now,” you said, smiling at him. “Now, if you feel able, shall we go to the kitchen? I find that Midgardian food is most helpful in times like these.” You stood up, extending a hand to him.

And for the first time in five years, Thor felt hope coursing through him and found that he, too, was able to smile.

About an hour later I was greeted with this error, stating my account had been locked indefinitely for harassment and violation of the PG rule

I filed a second support ticket in order to appeal my account being locked and give an explanation to the staff. The following is the conversation between myself and Eltafez

It's 4:30 in the morning so forgive my ineloquence.

My language might have been slightly harsh in PMs with TrueWend*go, but they were violating the rules and have an inappropriate username and are flagrantly disregarding the racist roots their actions have. The Native community in every part of the world has faced consistent harassment and dealt with their culture being slandered, torn apart, erased, and what was left being stolen by people to use as a fun culture symbol or as a "sPoOkY mYtH". They are glorifying a being that is rooted entirely in evil and is the embodiment of the worst a person is capable of. They have created an identity around a creature of cannibalism, of r*pe, of greed, and of violence. They disregarded the polite explanations of the ramifications of their actions and the benefit of the doubt that they did not know what they were doing. By locking my account for this, you are sending the clear message that you care more for not rocking the boat than defending Native belief systems. As a US resident, I am already witnessing the brutal effects of silencing those speaking out against racism. You are aligning yourselves with oppressors. I will agree that my defense was perhaps overzealous. Moderators on many other sites I have been on have failed entirely in the past to defend the Native community and I was frightened this case would be the same and reacted strongly. I am still afraid this is the case as I am the one punished and they are, at last checked, still free to continue. Please unlock my account. Quite a few among us (myself included) are from a different culture and/or race. You're offended by a name - I'd like to counter that by saying you're offending the staff team by accusing us of something we're not. Cultural appropriation is something we cannot (and will not) enforce due to the sheer magnitude of it. You see books, movies, games - everywhere really, that handle mythical creatures and even real gods (take Egypt, Greece, Rome, ... to name a few). Like human beings, they develop and change over time. We can't lock someone for having the name Anubis or Iuno because there once existed a civilization that coined these names or terms. There's a public beach called "Wendigo Beach Resort" - if the term is so inappropriate, then why is it called that? The user you reported has done nothing wrong - our rules, as they're written, have not been broken. The site is British and it follows British laws. You, however, have broken them by harassing the user and mentioning words that are actually inappropriate in the English language. We are fine with people spreading awareness, but it stops when they try to force their own beliefs unto others.

The name of W"ndigo Beach is actively being fought by the Native community. It's not the "gotcha!" you think it is. The term is used (inappropriately) by garbage human beings who have gotten away with it and will continue to do so because of people like you who will never uphold any kind of justice for anyone but themselves. You have failed. You have failed, and you have defended your failure by attempting to deflect it. This is not the same as having the name of Old Gods. This is having a name equivalent to celebrating the lynching of the African American community. This is a name equivalent to saying "I support Nazis". This is a name that is, at its core, supporting pure evil. Your staff may be "diverse" but it is obviously still filled with narrow minded individuals who will step on the nA community to try and boost themselves. I am saddened. I am disgusted. I hope none of you are in any real position of authority around children because you are teaching them to do that which the British have always done: destroy, disregard, deflect. You have failed, and will continue to do so until you are capable of looking past your own biases to realize that you are wrong and you are disgusting in your defense of the status quo instead of justice.

i think the whole bully to lover trope is shite, and it's always shite no matter how hard the shows try to make it good cause in the end it's always someone going against their better judgement and dating someone who made them feel like crap. when i first started watching the show, and honestly until pretty recently, i was either blind to the shite-ness of said trope or willing to "look past it" for the sake of queer rep and plot, but now im willingly here admitting it's a big and stupid mistake lmao.

now for my truly scorching hot take: they should not have gotten together (...at least in this season, if the writers were adamant on doing this...)

saying that,,,,it goes without saying i would fucking die for eric, and if im being honest i do love adam. half of it is because connor swindells is adorable, and half of it is cause if you take him out of this "love story" he's this arsehole who realises he was making people's lives a misery just cause HE was miserable, and thus is actively taking steps to try and be better!!!! wonderful!!

...we DO kinda need to see him actually be good to eric tho, cause it's all well and fucking good showing him being best pals with ola but if you're putting this twat in a relationship with the god that is eric effiong then u need to actually show them together, talking things through, fucking communicating for a change yanno???

don't get me wrong, im kind of rooting for em simply cause i love the characters individually, and think there's a potential there to do them somewhat-justice if they really knuckle down and deliver, cause they've shown what they're capable of with the whole aimee (amy?? i forget😅) storyline in season 2. they just need to apply that skill to adam and eric instead of half arsing them and thinking it's good enough!! id die to see a domestic gay couple in a show like this, but really doubt they're gonna be given the chance. idk conclusively how i feel about them, but uh,,,,yeah,,,i both love and hate them together 😅😅
