**********************************************************************
The defilement the orcs committed felt like hours, in fact, in probably had been hours since she and Celebrían had been taken captive and tortured repentantly. Her sister, however, had been spared, hopefully in some aspect, no thanks to her screams of “Take me! I am the youngest!” Celebrían had sobbed hysterically, begging her not to, but all she could think of was Elrond and his children, how she had to protect her sister for the sake of her brother-in-law.
It was, brutal. Black blood smeared with her own crimson as she lay motionless, no longer screaming her throat ragged, she lay still. From a distance, it felt like she was watching it happen, like her soul had departed from her body to witness the degradation. She could sense it all, hear and smell everything, from the thick scent of sweat and blood to the horrid, grating grunts and diabolical laughter.
And when they were done, they simply haphazardly tossed her back into the gated pen that Celebrían was sitting in the corner in. Her sister’s body was covered in cuts and bruises, but there was no sight of blood smeared anywhere below her hips and that made her sister have some feeling of relief deep inside. Celebrían scrambled to her knees, pulling her sister into the corner, hands going from her face to her torso hovering over her lap.
“Oh, oh Eru,” she gagged in her horror as her sister merely curled into a ball on her thighs, not even feeling any of the pain, and passed out. Celebrían merely held her, praying to the One that someone would save them.
***
Something was nagging at her, but she couldn’t tell what it was. A feeling in her chest that felt as if it was tearing away at the very muscle of the organ. She wanted to stay in the darkness she was in. It was cold, calm, quiet—a far cry from what she had left behind. But the feeling wouldn’t quit tugging at her. Finally, she opened her eyes to stop it, but if nothing else, to at least see what it was.
Bleary eyed, she blinked at the figure in white standing a ways from her, a sound coming from it; she continued to squint until her vision cleared and her mother stood before her, lips moving in a continual motion of, “Get up. You must get up.”
“I do not want to,” she said lethargically.
“You must get up, hína nîn,” Galadriel repeated. “They are coming back for your sister. Get up.”
She felt something shift in her chest again, another strong pulse. “I cannot rise.”
Something turned in her mother’s gaze and she raised a hand, a ball of light in it. “They will do to her what they did to you. My child, you must get up.”
“Mother, I—”
“Rise, and protect yourselves!” Galadriel commanded.
***
Her eyes snapped open, and she instantly heard the blood curdling screams of Celebrían ripping from her throat; her eyes darted, catching sight of two orcs pulling her by the arms and the same force in her chest culminated into a violent shift of energy that had the orcs flying and her sister hitting the ground.
She ran, grabbed Celebrían by the arm, and flung her back behind before raising her hands. A force unlike anything that had not been seen in ages emanated from her palms, a blinding, white-hot energy that created a warping aegis around them.
Her eyes were narrowed in righteous rage as she warned the orcs clambering to their feet, “Pass this hallowed barrier and I will annihilate you.”
One of the orcs pulled out his sword, bellowed in his guttural tongue and ran at the barrier; she merely watched as he brought his sword down only for it to shatter into a thousand shards, and when his body met the field, he was consumed by white flame, yelling in pain before he fell to the ground.
She drew her gaze from the dead orc to the ones gathering back behind the barrier and stared them down with deadly eyes. “You will not cross this barrier so long as I stand. I will not fall.”
A bloodthirsty haze fell over the group, and they began screaming in their tongue at her, running to take her down.
***
It wasn’t long before elven arrows pierced the flesh of orcs, a war horn blaring across the mountain side as horses thundered across the rocks and silver swords were slashing at heads and limbs.
She still stood, hands raised in the same position as countless burned bodies lay at the edge of the shield. Blood dripped from her nostrils as the energy of her body and soul went into the force of the barrier, but she would withstand a thousand years of it, if it meant her sister would be safe.
The orcs dropped like flies around them, some trying to flee only to be hunted down by Rivendell and Lothlórien soldiers. She watched, catching sight of her brother-in-law and nephews among the fray.
All but one orc remained, the leader of their pack, held by three elves, each on his arms and one with his head in his grip. Elrond raised his sword, an unexplainable emotion on his face, only to hear from the distance between them, “STOP!”
His blade froze midair, and he spun, seeing the barrier disintegrating. She stumbled, torn and dirtied dress exposing her body as she hobbled towards him. “My Lady—” he started, and she ripped his dagger from his belt with fury.
“He is mine to kill.” She looked at the elves holding his arms. “I order you to cut his limbs off. Leave his head attached to his body.”
They did as she commanded, not feeling a thing but disgust as the orc shrieked in pain. As he fell onto his back, she scrambled atop him and glowered down, shoving the blade horizontally between his teeth to keep his mouth open.
“You have defiled me. I, a daughter of the Lady of Light. You have committed a sin so foul, so grave, so unspeakable.” Her voice grew with her rage, a shaking beginning to rattle the ground around them and the elves looked at one another in shock, if not all-overwhelming fear.
Trees began to sweep from the dirt, exposing their roots with creaks and groans of vengeance, stones fractured, the ground splitting in cracks along the way. Fury stormed in her eyes as lightning flashed across the sky, her voice a force full of seething hatred as she yanked the blade from his mouth, feeling black blood splattering her skin as his cheeks and face ripped. She raised the blade and stabbed down.
“YOU WILL DIE FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!” stab after stab. “YOU WILL ROT IN THE DEEPEST PITS OF WHATEVER HELL YOU HAVE CRAWLED OUT OF!” she continued to stab into his flesh, carving away at the organs in his chest.
Her arms grew tired, but she didn’t stop until someone grabbed her, and she screamed, turning the blade on them, eyes wild as she snarled, “DO NOT TOUCH ME!” she turned the blade on them all. “NO ONE IS TO TOUCH ME!”
The elf, Haldir, her courter, she recognized in her haze of rage, stepped back, his own eyes going wide with concern as she staggered to her feet, covered in black ichor. The blade dropped beside her feet, and she turned to Elrond, her expression dead.
“Take my sister home,” she charged, before turning in the direction opposite of Lothlorien.
His sons were already gathering their mother and Elrond stepped towards her, raising a hand only to remember her warning, asking worriedly, “Where are you going?” his eyes, in horror, saw the state of her lower body. “You need to be healed.”
She merely kept walking. “Do not speak to me of healing. You will never heal what I have suffered. Take my sister home, Elrond. Now.”
It was all she said before disappearing down the side of the mountain, the elves of Rivendell and Lothlórien all stunned and silent. Haldir was torn between helping Lady Celebrían and going after his love, but one look from Elrond, and a quickly barked order to the elves around had him moving to assist Elrond’s sons, his heart aching for his love.
***
2910. Four hundred years had passed since the attack on the daughters of the Lady of Light. Four hundred years since Elrond had watched his wife depart to the Undying Lands. Four hundred years since he grieved for the loss of both his wife and sister-in-law who was nowhere to be found. Not even Lady Galadriel would speak of her whereabouts, though he had full reason to believe that she knew.
It was a time of celebration in Lothlórien, and he and his children had come to the land to join in the time of joy with their family, welcoming the spring as gold filled the forest along with blooming flowers of all shades.
The party was beautiful, the food and wine delicious, but Elrond could see the sadness in his brethren’s gazes, knew they all missed the Daughters of Light so terribly. Haldir, Elrond knew, was hit just as hard as he was. Both he and her were born the same year, him becoming a sort of knight watching out for her as she grew older. Their affection and devotion to one another was evident to all around them; their people could only wonder when Haldir was to court her, but when the incident occurred, and she vanished, they watched one of their strongest soldiers fall into a deep ravine of grief. Elrond felt for his fellow elf, could only offer wise council to ease their hearts, but he knew Haldir would never be the same until she came home.
The joyous celebration was brought to a sudden halt as a bright light filled the entrance of the dining hall. Everyone covered their eyes, at first assuming it had to be Lady Galadriel, but she was at the center with Lord Celeborn. Soldiers raised their arms, regular elves protecting their partners and children until the light began to dim and, in the center, stood the remaining Daughter of Light who hadn’t been seen for four-hundred years.
She wore a pure, snow-white dress, adorned with a green sash and gold designs all across the front. The patten ebbing up from the edge of her dress was that of the trees of Lothlórien, branches trailing up to her hips. Her shoulders were covered by golden pauldrons, golden wrist guards wrapped around her forearms. Gold sandals wrapped elegantly around her feet and calves like vines.
Her expression was one of calm, and an overwhelming peace filled the sanctuary when she smiled so softly and murmured, “Forgive me for my absence.” Her steps were delicate as she walked up the middle of the tables to her mother and father where she knelt before them. “Mother, father, I have come home.”
The two had rather subdued reactions, but everyone could see the happiness and love in their eyes as they smiled at her; Galadriel reached down, lifted her chin, and asked, “Have you found peace, hína nîn?”
A smile so contrasted to the absolute infernal rage they had seen on her four centuries earlier was shocking, but she nodded. “I have spent four hundred years in solitude healing from unimaginable wounds. My only comfort was the light of the sun and stars.” Her smile was kind, her voice gentle. “I have found my peace, mother. I am whole.”
Lady Galadriel wasn’t even able to say a word when cheers and cries of joy echoed around them, flowers thrown and celebration around. The party continued on, now a third chair at the table of the Lady and Lord, many elves coming to greet and express gladness at their Daughter of Light’s return. Even Elrond came and she greeted him with a hand to her chest and he returned it, but suddenly overcome with emotion, tears gathered in his eyes, and he whispered, “Forgive me.”
She simply smiled and reached up, wiping his tears with her thumbs as she calmly replied, “There is nothing to forgive, muindor.” Her smile only brought more tears to his eyes and with a gesture much like human affection, she pulled him to her and gently rubbed his back. “You have done so much in this time. So much grief and sadness you have weathered for your children and people.” Pulling back, she gazed at him. “Grieve for me no longer, muindor. I have grown.”
He swallowed thickly and reached up, gently touching her cheek as if she were glass. “I am glad you have returned. We have all missed you.” She merely smiled, eyes crinkling at the edges.
***
As the evening drew on, the elves took to dancing in the night, the sound of music lifting the hearts and souls of them all. She stood off to the side, watching with warmth until she felt a presence beside her. “Haldir,” she murmured before looking over. “You look well.”
He in fact looked like hell had come alive. To suddenly see her after so many centuries, his heart had felt as if it had imploded, sunken to the bottom of the seas. “I only pale in comparison to the beauty of My Lady.”
Her smile set him at ease as they looked over the crowd. “Such beautiful music.”
“Indeed,” he agreed, happening to meet the eyes of the harpist who smiled at him. A pretty little elf, a few centuries younger than him, long red hair, and bright green eyes. “Ningannelthel has certainly gathered many eyes and hearts with her skill.”
“I would not doubt that.” She glanced at him. “Perhaps it is time you court her?”
Haldir’s eyes went wide, and he gaped at her. “I—beg pardon?”
“Ningannelthel is not married. Her eyes do not speak such volumes. She comes from a respected line. If you were to court her, it would be a joyous union.” She gestured for him to go. “Please, do not let me keep you. Go forth and court her.” She wouldn’t hear anything from him, saying her goodbyes as she retired for the evening.
***
It was the coolness of the morning that stirred her, and she stood at the highest platform in Lórien, watching the land wake up before her. The air was crisp, a bit chilly even as the sun began rising, but she felt calmness like nothing she had felt before.
Her time in solitude was spent truthfully in a cave, sealed inside the dark as she cursed and screamed her agony for years on end. For two centuries, she dwelled in darkness and rage until the third when she finally had no strength left, and she prepared herself to waste away into nothingness, when a single bright blossom bloomed in the center of where she lay.
For an entire hundred years, she gaze at the golden flower, a soft song like that of Eru sung to her for only her ears, and tears dripped down her face like a river of crystal. Her body, her soul, her mind healed from her suffering as the anger, like her tears, eventually dried up and dissipated, until all that remained was a tranquility. A peace that would measure and level the land for the ages to come.
At the end of the fourth century, she took the flower from the ground and consumed it, the blessings of Eru departed to her, melding with her soul and she saw the Timeless Halls where the One dwelled, was given the sight of the Secret Fire, and bestowed a single gift with many traits. One gift above all, to heal and to protect. She knew then that she served a higher purpose in the course of time; she saw the sun for the first time in four hundred years, and cried tears of exultation.
The sun rising now reminded her of the beauty of the light after darkness for so long. There was such beauty in it, unspeakable, untellable beauty. A presence stood beside her.
“I have heard you decided to not court, Ningannelthel,” she said.
“No,” he answered. “I cannot court whom my heart does not belong to.”
“Your heart belongs to a woman no longer here, Haldir,” her voice was one of pity and he appeared before her, shadows on his face as the sun haloed his hair.
“I have loved the same woman from the moment I saw her when I was a child to even this very moment. I have loved her regardless of what she suffered. I will continue to love her in her transformations. I will never stop loving her, no matter who she is now or who she was then.” He gazed at her with a look of seriousness unlike himself. “I have never loved her more than in the four centuries I spent waiting for her to return to me. And no one will ever love her more deeply and more timelessly than I have.”
Her heart beat in her chest like normal, but it was abnormally strong as she took in his words. “You would have me? Even though I am not who I once was?”
He knew what she meant. Much like the stories of her mother’s prideful spirit being tempered by humbleness, he saw the same. No longer prideful like she had been prior to the incident, snarky and mischievous. Now, she resembled her in demeanor and soul like her mother, calm and humble. And ever-dispelling well of wisdom and love.
Haldir knelt before her and took her hands in his. “I would walk the land until it is destitute if it meant I could have you in the next life.” He stared at her. “And even if you left again, still I would wait for you to come home, even if it meant I only could take one glance at your face.” His heart came pouring out of his mouth. “If one day you command me to stand in place, I would stand there until you told me to move or until I returned to the ground. If you told me to go in search of what your heart desires, I would not stop until I had found every piece and brought it back.” Tears filled his eyes, and he choked out, “If one day you commanded me to give my heart to another, I would rather pull it from my chest and bury it in the earth, for the love I bear for you was only given to me by the grace of Eru to worship you with.”
She fell to her knees and laid her head on his lap, tears seeping into the cloth covering his legs; he held her, tears falling down his cheeks.
“I have waited for you this long, meleth nîn. If I have to wait longer, then I shall, but I will always love you, and nothing will ever even come close to being able to dim my devotion.”
Rising, she met his eyes and took his hands in hers. “I do not know if I can make you as happy as you wish to be, Haldir. I do not know if I can give you what you wish.”
He shook his head, a teary smile on his face as he confessed, “Whatever you give to me, I will be satisfied with. So long as I can hold you in my arms for all eternity.”
She leaned forward, pressing their foreheads together and whispered, “Melin gin, Haldir.”
“Melin gin, meleth nîn,” he murmured, their smiles rivaling the brightness of the sun.

Happy Birthday with Haldir
Tumblr media
(A special birthday fic for my good @heilith with their favorite elf Haldir. I was not totally sure of his personality, but I hope you like it and happy birthday.)
----------------------00000----------------------
“What’s this?” You asked as you curiously gazed at the table that was now covered with different dishes and a cake that stood gracefully in the middle. Flowers also decorated the table, giving it a festive look. You were already surprised Haldir had not left for his morning scouting, but now you were even more surprised to see him in the kitchen– cooking and baking delicacies with mouth-watering scents.
“I heard you humans like to celebrate the day of your birth and if I remember correctly– today is the day of your birth. So, I shall take a day off from my duties and we shall spend the day as you wish,” Haldir explained.
“Really?” You asked with excitement in your eyes. “Of course,” He smiled in return. “Oh, Haldir! This is the best birthday gift I could ever ask for,” You wrapped your arms around him, beaming in joy. He chuckled and returned the hug.
“Happy birthday, my flower.” Haldir smiled as he held you close.

IATCOD Chap. 28; Plan in motion
*Author's note*
This was a chapter long in the making due to life getting in the way but I finally got around a week ago to finally get this chapter done. Not a lot of action in this, just some plot settings to get ready for the main action that'll happen the next few chapters. But I hope you all enjoy this chapter no matter what. And yes I had to use the death whistle from Puss in boots the Last wish so credit goes to Dreamworks for that.

_________________________________________________________________
After Cain had returned back to Hela's chambers and told everyone what Druig had suggested, there was silence in the room. Everyone pondering in concern, fear, and denial.
"And you're sure there is no other way?" asked Gandalf.
"It has worked one other time. With Fili and Kili sons of Dis, nephews of Thorin Oakenshield. Hela gave to them the very gauntlets she wears that holds our kins celestial stones. When Sauron took full control over her body, the stones used both their bodies as a host to banish Sauron's spirit from her very body before releasing them."
"Bofur and my uncle Oin did tell me that tale when I was still a lad. Never before had they been both in awe and struck with terror at the sight of what happened that night."
"I too was there when it happened. Never would I have thought that two Dwarves could hold the power of nine Celestial gems and live." Said Legolas recalling that night at Bard's house.
"But Merry still needs time to heal. He's not ready." Proclaimed Pippin worriedly.
"And the raw power of a Celestial's stone is nothing to be trifled with. I have seen what gripping a celestial stone can do." Aragorn said with a distant yet horrified look in his eye as he remembered one incident with some wild men in the North when they came to take out the remaining members of the Dúnedain.
The chief of the wild men had foolishly thought he could take Thena's stone for himself to enhance his weapon's strength and durability. But when he went to take the stone from Hela's gauntlet after ripping it from her arm, his body began to crack and burn like firewood.
His screams sounding like something both unholy and holy at the same time. His eyes became soulless white and gold until his body exploded into a pure light before Hela managed to contain Thena's stone once again.
"How do we not know that the same could happen to Merry if he takes hold of Druig's stone?" continued Aragorn.
"He wouldn't have suggested Merry if he didn't feel some sort of connection to him. Trust me Aragorn, I don't like this either but we are running out of options and out of time." Cain said as thunder rumbled once again and the red lightning began to flash in the sky once more. Cain and Aragorn turned to Merry and Aragorn said to him.
"The choice is yours Merry." Everyone turned to the hobbit who still looked exhausted from his Black breath recovery. Merry slowly stood up, Pippin tried to help but he held his hand out to refuse help. He slowly walked to the center of the room and said to everyone present.
"Since starting this quest back in the borders of the Shire, Pip and I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. But even then I didn't care, all I wanted was to see Frodo away from the danger. Only to find out that he must bravely face the danger himself to destroy the biggest threat to our home. And Sam, loyal hearted that he is, he willingly without a second thought vowed to go alongside Frodo even if it costs him his own life. Boromir died to save Pippin and I. Without a second thought, he kept bravely fighting until his last breath took hold. I have lost—many of my friends, and thousands-nay millions more all over Middle Earth will suffer if Hela is not awakened. If there is a chance to free her from her curse, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to play my part in saving Middle Earth."
Everyone took to heart of what Merry had to say. He walked back over to Druig's stone and called for him once again. The black onyx stone glew bright until a golden light shot out once again and appearing before him once again was Druig.
"You have made your decision." He spoke down to the young hobbit.
"I have." Replied Merry.
"Then what say you, Meriadoc Brandybuck?" Merry took a deep breath before exhaling through his nose and he said.
"How do we save Hela from herself?" A slight grin came across Druig's face then he told Merry.
"Take my stone within your hand, once you feel the full strength of my power coursing through your body, press the stone to the crown of your head. And we shall become One mind, One body, One soul."
"You both shall become one? But will Merry still be there? Your soul won't overwhelm his?" asked Pippin.
"He has accepted the terms young Peregrin Took." Druig said turning towards the other hobbit. "Time is of the dire most essence now, and we must bring her back now before it is too late." Druig's spirit then shot back into his stone and the glow of the stone faded.
"He's right Pip. If we're going to do this, it has to be now. If Hela is truly dying from this spell, Druig and I need to act now. And we've already lost a day already." Merry and Pippin looked at each other then after a moment of staring at each other, Pippin gave him a nod.
"Pippin, come join us." Cain said as he took out his knife and he slide the blade across his palm. Pippin walked over towards the others who were now starting to huddle on the other side of the room.
Using his blood, Cain drew along the floor a Celestial rune circle to protect everyone within the tower from any Celestial power outbursts. Everyone stood within the circle while Merry stood over the table where Druig's stone rested.
He turned to the others as Cain now began to wrap his wounded palm and he gave the young hobbit a strong nod. Merry nodded to him and took a deep breath as he reached out and took the stone within his bare hand.
As he grasp the stone into his palm, Merry's arm began to slowly crackle open like lava seeping through Mount Doom itself, he fell to his knees in agony as the power of the Mind celestial began coursing through his veins. But he kept a firm grip on the stone as well as holding his enclosed fist with his free hand.
The group watched in despair as Merry was forced to endure this pain alone. Pippin softly whimpered and said.
"We have to make him let it go! He's hurting can't you see he's in such agony!"
"No Pippin, we cannot interfere at this point." Gandalf warned him as he held him back.
"Merry?" cried out Aragorn. Merry continued to grunt and cry in agony.
"Merry talk to us." Cain ordered. As Merry continued to groan and pant in agony he finally spoke up.
"I'm fine. I'm alright." Slowly he raised his enclosed hand as he felt the full power of the Mind Celestial coursing through his entire body. But even with such power coursing through him, it was causing the gem to feel so heavy, he could barely lift his own arm.
However Merry knew he had to do what Druig had told him. Using his free hand, he guided his enclosed fist towards his head and with a cry, he open his palm and pressed the stone into his very head before a flash of light and wave of red energy shot out hitting the barrier but knocking down all the furniture in place. Then Merry fell onto his back with a thud and Druig's gem embedded into his very skin.
"MERRY!" cried Pippin as he ran through the barrier. Everyone crowded over him but Cain warned them.
"Don't move him!" Gimli held Pippin back as both Gandalf and Cain knelt over the unconscious Merry. Cain used his enhanced senses and could hear Merry's heart beating normally. "His heartrate and breathing is normal." Gandalf waved a hand over Merry's face.
"And his spirit is still in-tact." Suddenly Merry's eyes shot open but they glowed the same golden light that Druig produces whenever he used his mind controlling abilities. Cain and Gandalf backed away as did everyone else as Merry now stood up but there was a difference to the way he stood. He looked down at his hands and he said.
"I almost forgotten what it's like to have an actual body."
"Is that you Druig?" asked Cain.
"No, it's Sauron. Of course it's me." He turned over to Pippin and said, "And don't worry Pippin, Merry's still here. I just need to take control when performing the spell. However I do need to request something of you all. Performing this spell, requires my full concentration and power. Both Merry's body and Hela's will be completely defenseless, so someone needs to stand guard over us in case time runs out." They all turned to one another before Haldir spoke up.
"I'll do it." Everyone turned to him and Haldir said as he looked to Cain, "It's what Hela would've done for me." Cain nodded.
"I admire your heart and loyalty to my sweet Hela, but you'll need a better weapon than your own. Take Aeglos and place the tip of the blade to Thena's gemstone. It was once the host of her powers, and should any Deviants come to the tower seeking her or my power, you'll need the power of the Celestial of War to aid you." Druig told him. Haldir nodded then Merry walked over towards Hela.
He stood over the head of the bed and placed his hands on each side of Hela's temples. Golden light emanated from his palms and bounced between his palms and Hela's temples which also began to glow. Soon the small glow from Merry's eyes grew bigger until his whole eyes were nothing but a pure golden light.
"It's happening. Now it's up to him and Merry. The rest of us will continue to get the people down below and prepare for the Deviants as well as the Celestials of Sauron's attack." Said Cain. As the others began to leave the tower leaving Haldir alone, Cain said to him, "Haldir," the march warden turned to him. "Take it from someone who has tasted vengeance for over 2 Ages. When Nergal shows himself, do not engage him alone. You will wait for us to aid you in taking him down, understood?" Haldir turned his head with a narrowed, hateful look in his eyes. "Understood?" Cain asked in a firmer tone.
"Go help the others in getting the people to the lower levels of the city. They've suffered enough at the hands of a leader who could care less about them." Haldir said as he went over and took Aeglos from Hela's side.
Cain turned but had a suspicious look on his face as he left to join the others to help evacuate and prepare Gondor for the oncoming Deviants.
Within Hela's mind, both Druig and Merry walked through a dark chasm with the only light coming from the very floor they walked upon. However the floor itself was a sea of souls glowing a pure blue light.
"Is this really what's inside Hela's mind?"
"We're only at the gate. Everyone has their own unique gateway into their subconscious." explained Druig.
"So what is it that we're looking for?"
"A tree. A very large tree."
"A tree?" asked Merry unsurely.
"Being the Mind Celestial I've come to see that in everyone's mind, no matter the race or species, the gates of their minds hold a very special tree to which I've called them the Tree of Life. Each branch representing a person's memory or thought. It's what makes them the person or creature that they are. And if my hunch is correct, Hela's tree may not look like it once was." As they treaded through the ankle-deep water, Merry began to grow weary of the souls that were moaning and weeping.
"Who are all these people?"
"The souls that had been lost but could not move on. Remember Hela is the bridge between the Seen and the Unseen world. Souls pass through her in order to move onto Mandos' halls, even under this spell they continue to come to her. But they're trapped here until she gives them her blessing."
'You are correct.' A voice spoke up. The boys stopped and Druig stood in front of Merry protectively as a spirit soon raised itself up from the water before taking the shape of King Theoden.
"Theoden King?" Merry gawked.
"Hello Meriadoc." He then turned to Druig and said, "And you must be her twin brother Lord Druig. Hela told me many stories of you and your sister Makkari the Speedster when I was a lad." Druig nodded and Merry said.
"Theoden King, we're looking for Hela's Tree of Life, can you take us to it?"
"I can but I must warn you. The spell that has imprisoned not only us but Hela herself has grown too strong. If you dive too deep into her mind, you too may also suffer the same fate as she."
"That's a risk we have to take. I won't leave here without knowing my sister will be okay." Answered Druig firmly. Theoden's spirit looked at both of them as Merry gave him a strong nod.
"Very well." He faded back into a spirit ball and began the light to guide them through the darkness and towards where they needed to go. Eventually they came upon a grand willow tree that stood nearly as tall as Treebeard himself, but just as Druig had thought, the lush green vines had been dried up and were starting to crumbling.
Within the vines were small thought bubbles that would normally be as bright as bubbles should be, but they were now dimmed and grey with faded memories hazed over.
"This is Hela's Tree of Life?" asked Merry.
"Yes. But it's worse than I imagined it would be." They walked up to the tree as Theoden's voice spoke to them.
'Remember, dive too deep and you too may suffer the same fate as she. Though I do hope you are successful in returning our Hela home. Good luck.' His spirit then dove back into the sea of souls. Merry walked up to the tree and touched the main trunk. He could feel just how malnourished the tree was.
"Any ideas on how we can fix it?"
"It's not up to us, it's up to Hela. Only she can mend her own Tree."
"But how are we going to find her?" Druig walked around Hela's tree until he had found what he'd expect to find. Glowing in a haunting green and black aura of magic was a large mushroom that was attached to one of the roots of Hela's tree. The light pulsating and almost sounding like a heartbeat but what had Druig in awe was the mushroom was showing a vision much like Hela's thought bubbles on the vines of her trees had.
"I think I might have found her." Merry came around and knelt down beside him. The two of them stared at the mirrored image of what looked like a large green pasture (much like the Shire) and Hela was out folding laundry. "You ready for this?"
"Let's do it." Answered Merry. Druig took his hand and together with their free hands, they reach out and touched the mushroom all while their eyes glowed a pure gold. The second they touched the mushroom, the black and green aura shot out like lighting trying to fend off Druig's and Merry's touch. Both the Celestial and the Hobbit groaned and cried out in pain but they kept a firm hold on the mushroom. Until they were encompassed by the green light.
"Merry? Merry! Wake up!" Merry's eyes shot open and he saw Druig kneeling over him. "Easy there halfling." Merry held his head in pain as he let out a small groan.
"What happened?"
"We got absorbed by the curse and sent into this false world. I must say I'm impressed by your mental stamina, any normal person would've crumbled by now. Think there might be a future for you being a Mind Celestial." Druig held his hand and helped Merry onto his feet.
"Hela once said I would make a clever one."
"And for myself I can see why she said that." Merry gave a slight smile before asking.
"Now that we're here, how do we find Hela? This place is nearly as big as the Shire."
"We just start walking. Hopefully we'll come across her. And we may just find out just what exactly this curse is doing to her." The two then proceeded to walk once again onward this time through the peaceful green pastures.
Back in the real world, Cain was standing along the very edge of the city where Denethor had leapt to his death. He could sense the very change in the air from the darkened clouds, the difference in the lightning and the very air seemed denser as if a dark spell had once again been placed over all of Middle Earth.
"We've gotten the last of the civilians gathered in the lower caves. And Faramir and Gandalf finally managed to work out the protection spell Hela had made for the city. It should be up later tonight." Aragorn said behind him.
"With all that Denethor allowed to happen, this city doesn't need to suffer twice at the hands of a bigger threat than orcs, trolls and wargs." Said Cain. Aragorn stood beside him and said.
"They'll find a way to bring her back."
"It's not bringing Hela back that I'm worried about." One look on Cain's somber face and Aragorn knew what he meant.
"You fear for Haldir's mental state at losing Hela."
"Grief—is a powerful feeling. Especially if it's fueled by rage. I may not be able to physically see his eyes but I can sense his heartbeat. His deep, sharp breaths through his nose, and the anxious ticks he's now been having at the tips of his hands, especially since he took hold of Aeglos."
"You fear he might turn into what you became." Cain solemnly let out a deep sigh. Aragorn placed a hand to Cain's shoulder and he told him, "He may not know it now, but he'll need your guidance before the end. Who better to understand what he's going through, if you can find the way, he will too before the end."
"I hope so Aragorn, I really hope so." Aragorn turned and headed back inside the palace leaving Cain to stand alone once again. However Cain felt a dark presence behind him and he withdrew his axe and his blade soon met with another and a voice said to him.
"You can even sense Death coming for you. Impressive."
"Deimos." The two of them uncrossed their crossed their weapons. "Why are you here?" Cain sneered lowly in the tone he's always used for those who were impure of heart.
"Apologizes for interrupting your little brotherly love session with Isildur's heir, but I had to come see for myself what wasteful plan you all have tried to come up with to save yourselves." Deimos chuckled sinisterly.
"You underestimate them. Even in their darkest hours, until there is no hope remaining, the Fellowship and the people of Gondor will continue to fight till their last breath."
"It's a waste. You cannot save them from the inevitable. Without Hela's power, the Deviants will take each race of Middle Earth, one by one until all is nothing but shadow and stone."
"And what do you three get out of all this in the end? If all is meant to be shadow and stone, what will you and your brothers do?"
"What Perses and Nergal want is up to them. I, however, have a different score to settle." Cain heard as Deimos unsheathed his second sickle. "As I'm sure you're aware, each Celestial while cut from the same cloth based on one's powers, there are the Celestials gifted with sub-level powers. A power solely focused to one main power."
"Yes. Like those celestials who could only control one element, or be able to see into the future."
"Hela had her time to be the high Celestial of Death, but she missed the whole point of her existence entirely."
"How so? By teaching that death shouldn't be feared? That it is another path to the next life."
"That! That right there!" Deimos snarled in distain. "You actually believe that death is a merciful, that it's something to be fully embraced and accepted like how you view Life. No, no, no. Death should be feared, uncertain, and permanent." He emphasized on the word permanent as Cain could feel his red eyes cutting right through him.
"You've come for me." Cain realized.
"Now you're catching on." Deimos then began to circle around Cain like a predator, eyeing him as he continued, "When you were brought back by the desperation of your brother Ikaris, you didn't value what he had given you. And while I find the very idea of resurrections and reincarnations absurd, what I loathe more than anything in this world are those who think they can cheat Death."
"As you said, it wasn't my choice to be brought back to life."
"You don't think I don't know how throughout the first 100 years of your banishment you tried to end your own life? And yet with each time, you survived."
Cain's heartbeat escalated, the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end, a cold chill ran up his entire body. He could hear the blades of Deimos' sickles cut across the cobbled stone beneath them.
"But here's how we can rectify all of this. When the time's right, I will come for you, and you and I shall face off in a duel to the death. See who truly has the blessing of the Valor on their side. You do that, and I swear to not harm a single hair on anyone else's heads."
"You really think I'll trust you to do that? After the way you beat Haldir and Hela nearly to death."
"A mere demonstration for what I have in stored for you. They were just so I could get to you. You agree to fight me, and death will only come for you." Deimos then let out a soft yet haunting whistle and when Cain turned around, he could sense that Deimos was gone, only hearing the brief whistle before it too was silenced.

Almost as if he had been strung up on strings, he collapsed to his knees, his heart still racing in such fear that he only felt when he came before the Nine Nazgul.
In Hela's mind, Merry and Druig continued walking along the grassy over hills until they came to a quaint little cabin. To Merry it almost resembled Frodo and Bilbo's home of Bag-end with a similar green circular door but it was a big-people sized home.
It had a small front deck with a porch swing, and the front yard was covered with wild flowers. A gazebo that looked exactly like the one in Lothlorien stood at the side of the cabin.
"Is this what Hela dreams about?" asked Merry.
"She was never one for riches or grand castles. When we were children, she always said she'd get herself a cabin and plant wild flowers as far as the eye could see." Said Druig. "But even so, this is still a prison so don't get swept by whatever you see. Remember Theoden's warning." Merry nodded as the two of them soon heard the sound of arrows being twanged from an bow around back. They heard the arrow hit a target so they came around to see someone who looked like Haldir doing some target practice.
Instead of the normal Marchwarden uniform or even armor, he donned on a simple dark green tunic and grey trousers. Haldir notched another arrow into his bow and released it and it split the arrow that was already in the target.
"Can he see us?" Merry quietly asked.
"No. This is an illusion, they usually can't see nor hear us."
"Even if this were an illusion, we Elves can hear the flutter of a humming bird's wings 10 leagues away." Haldir actually responded to them. He turned towards them and greeted with a warm smile and a bow of his head, "Welcome Merry, and back already Druig? It's not even been 20 minutes since you left." Merry looked up at Druig worriedly. While Druig's eyes expressed shock, he turned to Merry and told him telepathically.
'Just follow my lead.' Druig cleared his throat and said, "Well you know how it is. Big brothers and all, can't leave you two alone for one second."
"Even after all this time we've been married, you still can't trust us alone. Though I can understand, being an older brother myself. What can I do you both for?"
"We're actually here for Hela. Is she in the cabin?" Merry asked the Haldir illusion.
"Unfortunately you won't find her in the cabin. At this time of the day she's down at the farm just over that hill. What do you want with her?" there was a hint of suspicion to this fake Haldir's tone but Druig plainly said.
"Just received a message from Keoghan about the Midsummer's ball tonight. Apparently Kingo once again burned the cake and they need Hela's help since she is the best baker out of all our kinsman."
"Very well. But I must warn you, one of the cows just recently gave birth. She'll be on the fight if you anywhere near her pen."
"Thanks for the heads up Haldir. Good day." The two of them bowed to Haldir the Mind Celestial bow before heading over the hill where Haldir said the farm was at. "Tell me you caught the way he got suspicious on why we needed Hela."
"I did. There was also something in his eyes that gleamed the same color as the spell that shot out around us when we touched that mushroom on her Tree."
"You are indeed a clever hobbit Master Merry." They soon came up and looked down at a large farm. With large shire horses running freely around the wooded area in the back, large mountain dogs helping log around eggs, crates of apples and corn, and ducks and chickens waddling about the farm grounds.
As they walked through the farm grounds, they heard soft humming coming from the stables. They slowly walked in and soon found Hela brushing a white stallion's mane humming softly.
"Hela?" Merry called out to her. She jumped and smiled.
"Merry, this is a surprise. I wasn't expecting you till next month for Pippin's birthday. And Druig, back so soon. Let me guess, you thought Haldir and I were having another sweet rendezvous at the gazebo that you walked in on just shortly after we began courting." At that openly suggestive statement, Druig's cheeks went red as he said.
"No but thank you for that unholy image that is now seared into my brain." Hela giggled and said as she stroked the stallion's nose. "So what brings you both here?"
Merry turned to Druig wondering if they should break it to her now since looking at her, it seemed like they had found the real Hela. Druig was torn because the last time he had seen his sister this happy was when they were children. After Sauron came fully into power by the time the three of them came of age, Hela always held such a burden on her shoulders. Like the weight of the world fell on top of her weighing her down and taking her innocence away bit by bit until all that was left was a hollowed shell.
Here she seemed—happy, relieved even. No wonder why she's refused to awaken from such a dream. But he knew she had to, but they had to approach it delicately at first.
"Keoghan reached out to me halfway on my journey telling me that Kingo burnt the cake for the midsummer's ball again." Hela let out a sigh and shook her head.
"That Kingo, he can put on a show with Sprite but when it comes to drawing or cooking, he's hopeless. And I thought Apollo had banished him from the kitchen?"
"He did, and that banishment is still in affect but you know how Kingo is."
"He always finds a way." Both he and Hela said together. "Sorry Snowmane, afraid this grooming session's gonna have to be cut short." Snowmane huffed and let out a shocked whinny. "Don't blame me, if I don't go stop Kingo, he could blow the whole castle up." she got out of Snowmane's stable and walked pass Druig and Merry. "C'mon, we better get a move on. I'll have to tell Haldir first of where I'll be heading."
"Actually we just told him that before we came to find you." Merry said.
"Oh well okay then. That's one less thing to worry about." As they stepped out, Hela raised up her fingers and let out a sharp, loud whistle that almost resembled an eagle's scream. They waited for a bit until finally a real eagle's cry was heard and swooping down was Hela's great eagle Icarus. "Hey Icarus, think you can carry Merry to the palace?" he let out a soft trill before lowering himself down for Merry to climb on.
Druig nudged the hobbit forward and Merry raced up and with Hela's help, mounted on top of the great eagle.
"But what about you?" asked Druig.
"Why would I need Icarus to fly?" Hela's normal dress soon morphed into the Starlight Celestial armor. "Being born a Starlight Celestial, I never need aid in flying again." As Hela shot up onto the air like a shooting star, Merry and Druig looked at each other worriedly before Icarus soon took off following behind his mother and Druig used his levitating powers to fly right beside Merry and Icarus.
Another night was passing even through the dark, thunderous clouds that covered all of Middle Earth. Gandalf, Aragorn and Cain all stood along the balcony near the throne room as Cain said.
"One more day to go, and the Deviants will return to Middle Earth."
"Any word of Merry and Druig's progress?" asked Aragorn.
"I had just met with Haldir, no changes." Gandalf replied solemnly. "I know Merry is strong and Druig is powerful but I fear they may not bring our Celestial of Death back in time."
"We still have time." Aragorn stated. "All we can do now is give Merry and Druig the aid they need. We've coded the protection spell, the second we see those demons appear, we activate the spell."
"It won't just be the Deviants we'll need to worry about. Nergal, Perses and Deimos will also need to be stopped. I fear their goals are more than just what Sauron had intended for them. And if they try to stop Merry and Druig from helping Hela, Varda help us all." Cain said as thunder once again rumbled in the sky and red lightning flashed in the sky.

LOTR + TH Masterlist

Tumblr media
1. Aragorn
soft kisses - where they're just lying beside you, hands playing with your hair as they trail tender kisses all over your lips
The two of you were meant to be sleeping of course, but the gloom of the mines made it hard to settle. You supposed that's why he pulled you away from the others slightly, to a spot just that bit further away.
Aragorn was on first watch as usual, having made it his task since the beginning of the journey, and always insisted that the hobbits and Gandalf got plenty of sleep. But with that came the usual knowing looks between the two of you as Aragorn knew his love wouldn't sleep unless he would.
So with that knowledge, and him sensing his love's rising anxiety at being trapped underground, it now brought them to this.
He tilted your head up from where it was resting against his chest, his hand cupping your face. Aragorn brushed a few loose strands of hair off your face from where it had fallen out of place as his own head tilted down towards yours. His hand gently entwined with your other, and he paused in his movements, allowing you to decide next.
You gently reached up, threading your hand through his long locks and gently pulling him down towards you. He pressed his lips to yours, mouth moving slowly, softly, intimately.
He pulled away, your lips chasing after his, a small smile gracing his lips as he pressed another kiss, and then another, and then another to your lips.
the type of kiss where you can't find words to say after, or the ones where your forehead lingers against each other's
Aragorn's horse trotted through helms deep, having just pulled him up from the river bed where if not found, he would've succumbed to his wounds. He dismounted his horse and received a scolding from Gimli before forcing himself up the staircases and into the deep.
Legolas rose from outside the doors, greeting his friend who believed him dead. The elf pulled him into a familiar embrace before pulling back and making a sarcastic comment about the ranger.
The elf turned a small smile gracing his face before yelling the name of a person. The ranger followed his line of sight. It fell on his love, you.
You looked up after the elf who yelled out to you, before seeing the man you mourned for standing with him. Abandoning your stuff, you ran to him, arms thrown over his shoulders and crushing him to your chest as a few sobs left you.
His arms encircled you as he leant his forehead against yours. He didn't care at that point about the mud caking him and he didn't think you cared enough at that point, so it made no odds on whether he was careful or not.
He pulled back slightly, raising his hand to caress your face before pressing his lips to yours. Tears left both of you as his mouth moved languidly with yours.
Aragorn pulled away, resting his forehead against yours. He wanted to say so much to you, fearing that he would never see you again but all thoughts left him as he wished to stay in this moment, longing for nothing but you.

2. Fili
messy kisses - curly hair, ruffled sheets and half-buttoned clothes as you just want more and at that moment, they're the most beautiful soul to you ever
The sun trickled in through the window, bypassing the curtains that hadn't been fully drawn across the night before. The young (ish) couple lounged in the bed, bodies pressed together as close as they could get with the few layers of clothes still between them.
He tilted your head up to meet his, his lips pressing against yours, moving languidly in the early morn. Fili reached up, hand caressing your courting and marriage braids that were still somewhat intact.
He groaned, feeling one of your hands gripping the hair at the base of his neck and the other slipping under his shirt across his chest.
Fili pulled back, eyes fluttering open to meet yours; your own half-lidded as you drew in a few stuttering breaths. It was a pleasant greeting from your love first thing in the morning, one that you would be against again.
You gazed up at Fili, the dwarf hovering over you, careful not to rest his entire body weight on you. The tressels of sunlight filtered through his hair, causing a glow to shine over him.
His eyes trailed over your face, memorising every detail as if it was the first time he saw you.
kisses on your body ♡ frail kisses on your shoulder! on your lower back, belly and trailing to your neck, collarbones, lips.
A cry of pain left your lips.
Oin pulled the blood-soaked cloth away from where it was pressed tightly against your side. The infection from the arrow had spread, the orcs having laced it with something deadly.
The pain wasn't something Fili wished on anyone, much less you. So he did his best to comfort you whilst the infection ransacked your body. His hands firmly held you, one holding the back of your head, and the other gripping your forearm to stop you from forcing Oin's hand away from the wound he was trying his best to treat.
After Oin had doused the cut in water, trying to flood any dirt that wormed its way in, Fili pulled you closer. The healer moved back to gather some more altheas and cloths, leaving you curled against your prince's chest.
Fili dropped his head down to your shoulder, as your tears continued to douse his shirt - not that he cared as it was covered in sweat, grime, and whatever else from the trip across middle earth - his hand on your head slipping down to the back of your neck, stroking his fingers in what he hoped was a soothing pattern.
He pressed a kiss to your bare shoulder, the fabric of your tunic had been pulled away, cut away for easier access. It would need replacing, he noted, but hoped that it would be enough to cover you until the sun rose again.
Fili continued his ministrations, pressing another kiss further up your shoulder. And then another at the junction where it met your neck. He considered pressing one to your neck, in that one spot he knew made you shiver, but with the way you were sitting in his lap you were already considered improper in public, so he begrudgingly decided against it.
Oin chose to return at that moment, pressing the churned-up altheas against your wound and then tying the cleanest cloth over it. You cried out in pain, more tears falling. It was like someone was driving a burning knife into your arm, over, and over, and over again. The pain rolling in waves.
Fili kept whispering words of praises and comfort, the Kadzhul translations lost in your mind as all you could feel was the pain, and him.
The knot was finally tied on the bandage. Fili slid his hand from the back of your neck to cup your face, pressing a chaste kiss against your forehead before leaning his own upon yours.
I'm here, you're safe now, I love you, the action spoke more words than Fili could find himself saying.

3. Haldir
lazy kisses as they admire you - fingers delicately trialing your jaw as they kiss your lips
"Haldir," you groaned, leaning back against his chest, head turned up to face him. A smile graced his lips, his eyes locked with yours, shining full of love.
It wasn't often you got to spend a prolonged period of time with your Marchwarden, especially with him being gone for months at a time to guard Lothlórien's borders. So any time you spent with him was precious, even if you knew he would be leaving at the end of it again.
The braid in his hair was loose, albeit from your hands running through his hair earlier, causing him to have a sexy, but dishevelled look. The thought of elves being supermodels no matter what state they were in flashed through your mind again causing you to chuckle slightly.
Haldir raised his hand, letting it linger under your jaw as he delicately leaned down to place another kiss against your lips. Warmth bloomed through you and as his lips moved against yours, all thought about him having to leave again in a few days retreated into the depths of your mind.
You were drunk off the taste of him, off his kisses as he stole your breath each time. And nothing would ever change that.
goodbye kisses - kisses lingering like liquor in each other's lips, bitter but sweet, "I'll always come back to you, love. you're my home after all."
The boats gifted to the fellowship had just finished being prepared and were packed full of provisions to last you a good while.
The thought of having to leave your home again haunted you but not just because it was where you lived. No, because this time you were leaving your love, not knowing when you were to see him again. He was your home.
The Marchwarden was allowed to see his love off, having been granted a week's leave whilst you and the fellowship recovered and stayed in Caras Galadhon, Lothlórien. After you were sent as an emissary to Imladris, Rivendell in the common tongue, and word had returned that you had embarked on a journey to destroy the one ring, Haldir was worried for you.
He knew the history of the ring, as did most if not all elves and was worried about the dangers you may face. He knew that you could protect yourself, having been a sparring partner against you for years, but the worry did not dissipate.
He met you at the shoreline, his hand over his heart in the traditional greeting before he held your hand in his. Sadness filled his eyes as he wished not to see you leave, but knowing that this was a journey you were willing to take.
Haldir leant his head against yours as he fixed the cloak hung around your shoulders, ensuring that the broach was attached properly.
His hands lingered on your waist as he prepared himself to say goodbye again. It was one thing being the one who was leaving, but now that he was on the receiving side for once, he now knew how your heart felt each time he went on patrol. That feeling of not knowing if you were coming back or not eating at his heart.
Your hand on his cheek stole his spiralling mind from his thoughts as your lips pressed against his. A tear threatened to leave his eye as he consumed your kiss like a drug. The fear bubbling in his chest soothing to make way for the love he held for you but the melancholy feeling at having to be parted from you made it more bittersweet than anything.
His lips lingered over yours as you pulled away, his hand raising to stoke a strand of hair back from your face. Haldir wished he could keep you here in his arms but understood the task you had undertaken would not be dropped lightly.
Tumblr media
4. Kili
kissing and realising this is the person you'll always love, you'll always want to touch and snuggle with
Kili didn't think he could hold you any closer than he currently was.
You were practically melded into him, hands gripping tightly to the back of his jacket. The clothing was still damp from the thunderous storm you had walked through, but nonetheless had to still wear.
The terror that shot through him as the thunder giant collided with the mountain, believing that he had lost not only his brother but you as well, was something he never wished to feel again. His hands trembled slightly at the thought.
He shifted slightly, taking some pressure off his shoulder whilst pulling you upwards slightly so you were level with him. The ground wasn't pleasant to lie on, less so on his side, and even less so with damp clothes on, but Kili knew this was the company's best option right now.
Kili rested his head against yours, his eyes meeting yours. He nudged his nose with yours affectionately, giving you time to pull away.
It was something he always did, you noted. Every time he wanted to kiss you but couldn't find the words to say it, or was surrounded by too many prying eyes, he did that. Gave you that tell that allowed you to decide what happens next.
You tentatively leant forwards, tilting your head upwards ever so slightly, letting your lips press against his. There was no rush. No incessant desire to pull the other closer, just him.
Kili moved his lips slowly with yours, savouring every moment that he got with you. Fuck, he loved you. The realisation pulled at his heartstrings more, knowing that he could've lost you today.
prohibited kiss - you're not even supposed to be seeing each other but your hands are on his hair and his hands around your waist, lower bodies pressing into each other as you kiss
Laughter radiated through your body as you were pulled through the endless turns and corridors of Erebor. The stone walls were lined with torches and braziers all lit with fires burning brightly.
To anyone else, it would be a maze, a catacomb of tunnels that unless sense was made of them, would surely lead to your demise. But years of living there had engraved the pathways into your mind, and no doubt Kili's.
His hand dragged you to a secluded corner, himself coming to a halt. He could no longer hear the guards trying to follow the two of you. Pride flooded his chest as he gazed back at you, finally alone with his betrothed.
You were finally able to get a good look at him, now that he didn't have all the dwarrowdams fawning over him. Even if he wasn't "beautiful" by dwarf standards, he was still a prince and would have people trying to gain his favour.
But his title didn't matter to you. Kili did.
And by the creator himself, did you love the way he looked. His hair tousled from the running, and the short beard he was so desperately trying to grow accentuated his face.
But the ceremonial robes that hung to his body? You couldn't resist.
He found himself pushed back, pinned against the pillar. Kili's eyes locked with yours, the same fire of desire within him, burning through you.
Your lips pressed with his, mouths moving frantically with the others. Your hands that gripped onto the front of his robes slid up, trailing up his neck and into his hair, pulling slightly to press him into you more.  A groan left him at a particularly harsh tug before your hand moved to trace his courting braid.
He pulled away, panting, breathless, kissing you again and pulling you into him, arms gripping your waist, hands in his hair, your bodies practically merging into one. If his Amad caught him now, he wouldn't even have to face the scornful looks of Dwalin, he would already be lying in his grave.
But could he let you go? Fuck no.
Tumblr media
5. Legolas
shy kisses - when you're the one pulling them closer, and they nuzzle their face in your crook after the kiss, hands around your waist as their ears get red
You were scared. If anything you were currently lustful, but you were about to fight in a war against ten thousand troops with an army of less than a third of that. So you were scared.
Legolas had turned to where you leant against one of the pillars, choosing to come and check all the fastenings on your armour. He was meticulous and methodical as he went to each and every one, adjusting where he deemed necessary whilst checking it caused you no discomfort.
A soft smile graced your face, as you watch his gentle movements before reaching out to cup his face in one of your hands. A blush, so subtle anyone who didn’t know Legolas would miss it, warmed his face, his head lifting and eyes locking with yours. It was as if he was staring straight into your soul, his piercing grey eyes full of love but fear.
You pulled him towards you, Legolas leaning his head down as his hand held over yours on his face, the other resting gently on your waist. Leaning up, you gently pressed your lips to his. Just once, mind you, the action as tender as possible, letting him come to you.
Legolas leant into you, pressing his lips back against yours, moving at a slow pace. He wanted to savour this moment as much as possible before the two of you walked to what could be your deaths.
ahem.
The clearing of the person's throat sprung the two of you apart, you mentally preparing for the endless stream of apologies to whichever passerby caught you, only for it to be someone you knew all too well.
"Aragorn." You spoke, heavily embarrassed to be caught with your lover.
The ranger looked between the two of you, his face being that awful neutral resting one making it so you couldn't judge his feelings on the matter. Aragorn must have read the panic starting to creep up in you as a teasing smile broke out.
“I have no qualms with this,” he began before looking over his shoulder towards the entrance of the armoury, “but the people of Rohan may not be as forgiving if you are caught.”
He turned on his heel, making his way up the staircase and leaving the two to their devices.
A moment passed and then a chuckle left your lips as a sigh left Legolas’. His head fell to your shoulder as the blush absconding his cheeks spread like wildfire tinting his ears a rosy colour.
At least it was only Aragorn, you mused, If Gimli had found you then he wouldn’t stop teasing your elf.
kisses of reassurance - saying that you're safe, still with them, that your heart is still beating wildly in your chest, that they couldn't get rid of you if they tried, that for some insane reason, you're not dead yet
Your chest heaved, trying to inhale as much air as possible as you sprinted up the mud-soaked hill. Aragorn had yelled for the soldiers to retreat into Minas Tirith and you were making your way as fast as you could until an arrow pierced your shoulder.
The doors were closed and sealed as you entered alongside the last few stragglers, a resounding bang from the wood hitting the stone frame. The room spun on its axis.
The throbbing pain in your arm continued, each ebb seeming stronger which was probably due to the adrenaline wearing off. Maybe you should've stayed fighting, it surely couldn't hurt as much as your arm did, you thought as your uninjured arm reached out to hold yourself up against the wall.
Giving up on keeping yourself upright, you slid falling somewhat ungracefully to the floor, blood dripping from your wound and soaking your sleeve. It was funny how much damage one arrow could cause.
You blinked.
The sun had risen, and from where you could see it, it was around mid-morning. Your eyes focused and you could see a worried face in a sea of platinum blonde hair. Legolas.
Ignoring the sound of the elf’s worry, you pushed yourself up into a seated position, as he gracefully knelt down next to you. His hands mindlessly moved to cup your face, as he had to pull his eyes away from your crudely bandaged arm. The arrow had been jagged and cut more as it pierced you, causing more blood to be lost.
Your hand covered one of his as Legolas moved to press his forehead to yours.
“I'm okay,” you whispered, breaking the silence between the two of you. Your thumb stroked the back of his hand absentmindedly, as you tilted your head up, meeting his lips with yours. It was one of desperation, longing and fear. A shuddered breath left you as the two of you broke apart.
“We’re okay.”

Note
hi! i found your blog yesterday and i’m obsessed! i was wondering if you could do one where in Y/N’s culture give someone a hand-crafted object (like a wood carving), it’s a way of confessing without actually saying that they like that person, but only Gandolf and Aragorn know since they have traveled all around Middle Earth! Thanks so much for your time!
Thank you, I’m glad you like this blog! I hope you’ll enjoy your post!
・゚✧ Aragorn.
Tumblr media
Indeed, Aragorn knows exactly what you mean when you gift him the wooden amulet you crafted over the past few days. He smiles fondly, aware of what this means for you. He’d take it the exact same way as he would a verbal love confession, takes your hands in his and gives you a kiss ♡ He'd also ask you about the exact cultural implications of the symbols you used etc.!
・゚✧ Arwen.
Tumblr media
Arwen has been kind to you ever since you started your work as a blacksmith in Rivendell. She is very impressed with your work and you soon start to fall for her. When her favourite bracelet breaks one day, you see your chance to use your newly-learned skills of Elven craftmanship to make her a new one. Though part of you wished she understood your gift’s meaning, Arwen’s unknowing reaction makes you just as happy: she’s beaming with joy and giving you a tight hug!
・゚✧ Boromir.
Tumblr media
Boromir spends days wracking his brains about the hand-crafted sheath you made for him. Every time he turns it in his hands, he can feel the energy and affection you poured into his gift. Still, its true meaning stays a mystery to him… until one day, he’d not-so-casually ask you, “It doesn’t carry a deeper meaning, does it?”
・゚✧ Elrond.
Tumblr media
The day Elrond finds the artful bookmark you crafted for him on his table, wrapped in a gorgeous leaf, he starts researching your culture. He faintly remembers hearing of love customs from your home region but thinks this couldn’t be possibly true! After a whole day of reading, he’d ask you for a conversation and talks about it to you, always respecting your culture’s habit of not outright stating your feelings. He’d be very understanding.
・゚✧ Éomer.
Tumblr media
Éomer is convinced that the little horse figurine you carved out of the most gorgeous walnut wood is a present you gave him out of fascination and respect for Rohirrim culture. While he is happy about the kind gesture, he is entirely oblivious to its meaning. So one day, when you absolutely couldn’t take it anymore, you’d had to take him aside and break your culture’s customs – because otherwise, this man wouldn’t get it!
・゚✧ Éowyn.
Tumblr media
While Éowyn may be unaware of your culture’s custom, she does recognise how much gifting her handcrafted objects means to you. So, she soon starts making something for you in return – albeit clumsily – but still you can’t help but swoon! You start to develop a playful gift exchange that Éowyn partakes in so lovingly that in the end, it doesn’t really matter that she didn’t know of your specific custom. Since you get together anyway, you can just tell her afterwards!
・゚✧ Faramir.
Tumblr media
Whatever you craft for Faramir, be it a bookmark, a tool, or a piece of jewellery – he’d treasure it religiously. Maybe he’d even build a shrine around it, hidden away in his quarters, where he’d sit down and think of you. Imagine his shock when he learns (possibly through Gandalf) of your gift’s true meaning – the poor man would blush like a sunrise, unable to speak to you for the next few days. He is ashamed of his perceived ignorance toward you and overwhelms you with the most romantic love confession in return!
・゚✧ Frodo.
Tumblr media
Frodo would be very casual about the notebook you crafted for him. He uses it as his journal, for flower pressing, and recipes. Everybody keeps asking about the gorgeous binding and covers, and he always redirects everyone to you with great pride. He is glad that your crafting skills finally find recognition in the Shire. However, since you only craft for those you love, you always have to send the other Hobbits away, until one day you admit to Frodo the truth behind your gift, which he takes with great joy.
・゚✧ Galadriel.
Tumblr media
Galadriel is convinced that the ring you made for her carries a deeper meaning, she just can’t quite put her finger on it, with you being so mysterious. It intrigues her, since usually everyone is an open book to her. When she asks you anew about your gift, you can’t help but give in to her warm telepathic voice, and confess your feelings to her. She’d light up with joy – “What a wonderful gift! The most precious anyone has to give!”
・゚✧ Gandalf.
Tumblr media
For Gandalf, you’d craft a new staff or wand. You don’t expect much when you gift it to him, so his sudden attention comes as a surprise to you: “You said you’ve made this yourself? It is an artful present…” His soft, loving glance would instantly tell you he understood. You share a blissful laugh, before he would deny any knowledge about your culture.
・゚✧ Gimli.
Tumblr media
You’d gift Gimli a precious stone or gem you found in the mines, having perfected it into a shape that’s perfect for his collection. When you gift it to him, his reaction puzzles you though: “No gem in this world is more precious than your presence in my life…” He wanted to confess to you too – what impeccable timing!
・゚✧ Haldir.
Tumblr media
Haldir is the worst person to make gifts for – while he trains his face not to show it, his confusion is still very much readable to you, now that you know him. The archery gloves you made for him are stored away deep in his travel bag, never to be seen again. It’s not until Aragorn secretly informs him of your region’s customs that Haldir finally understands your gesture – which leaves him even more irritated...! He is considerate enough to say “thank you” at least, with a timid kiss ♡
・゚✧ Legolas.
Tumblr media
Legolas would be thrilled that you made him an arrow, not meant for battle but prestigious decoration. The affection and care you poured into your hand-crafted gift do not escape his sharp attention, whenever he touches the glistening arrow and turns it in his hands. Intrigued by these feelings, he starts ‘investigating’ – meaning he teases you about a possible crush. He’d only stop when he sees how important this topic is too you, which is when he finally understands.
・゚✧ Merry.
Tumblr media
For Merry, you’d craft a new pipe. He is excited about your gift but oblivious to the deeper meaning behind it. That said, his sharp attention does catch your slight blush when you give it to him. It makes him think – and after days and days of pondering, he starts a courting offensive on his own, until the day you finally get together!
・゚✧ Pippin.
Tumblr media
The wood carving you’d gift Pippin is originally meant for decoration, but he carries it around his neck as an amulet. He proudly tells everyone who made it – and knowing how close the two of you are, it doesn’t take a genius to understand your gift’s true meaning. The situation would eventually solve by Pippin telling you, completely confused: “I thought we already were an item?! Of course I love you too!”
・゚✧ Sam.
Tumblr media
Out of all the Middle-Earth characters, Sam probably appreciates handcrafting and artisanship the most, being a craftsman himself. His reaction to your wood carving of a sunflower is appropriately flustered: “This must’ve taken quite some time to make, I’d say. Turned out so beautiful, too. Not that I expected anythin’ else from you! You are very skilled in many areas, after all…” His beautiful little speech charms you so much that you end up confessing your love unconventionally! Be it verbally or with a surprise kiss ♡

Gentle Dark
Haldir x Female Reader
Content & Warnings: romantic tension, yearning, passionate kissing, fade to black, admission of feelings, fluff, light angst
Word Count: 1.3k
On a patrol together, Haldir confronts you about your feelings for him even though you’re promised to another.
A/N: For @childofyuggoth
ao3 // taglist // main masterlist
Tumblr media
The stars twinkle through the gnarled canopy. White. Bright. Bathing the forest floor with iridescent light. You close your eyes and inhale deeply, savoring the scents of the forest around you. Caras Galadhon dwells behind you, sleeping and silent in the peaceful dark.
You are attuned to every sound in the deep wood, and as you filter through it all, you find nothing out of place or suspicious. But the disturbance of the wood is not of your immediate concern. There are greater trials and closer bodies that seek your attention other than the animals that softly move through the underbrush.
Haldir of Lórien is a beacon in the dark. You sense him before you see him, standing just shy of your right shoulder.
“The night is quiet,” he whispers.
You open your eyes, turn to face him. “It is indeed.”
Haldir’s gaze casually drops to your lips and then back to your eyes. A gentle heat radiates up your body to encompass you in its embrace. You have little control over your body’s reaction to him.
The answering of your flesh when he is in your presence is unfair. It is a cruel joke. You are promised to another, but not one of your choosing. If you had a choice, you would pick Haldir.
Always.
But that is not to be. That is not the path set out before you.
Him standing here next to you, alone in the gentle dark, is agony. The heat of him is so near, so alive that it sends your senses tingling with anticipation. The clashing beat within you is a deafening drum.
Can Haldir hear the racing of your heart? Can he sense your need and your aching tremble?
You hope he can’t, but you also silently hope that he does. What would he do then?
Haldir’s gaze finally leaves you to glance out into the wood. “We should begin the patrol.”
“Of course,” you murmur, inclining your head, allowing Haldir to take the lead.
He returns his gaze to you briefly before taking a step forward to walk between two trees. You follow him at a short distance, watching the distance, keeping a constant pivot. The two of you walk in relative silence, moving like phantoms amongst the towering trees.
At a small clearing, Haldir pauses. You cozy up beside him, a question starting to form on your lips.
“Do you remember this place?” he asks softly, gaze fixated at the center of the clearing. A sharp beam of moonlight illuminates the ground. The flowers glow under its lunar light.
You do know this place. On one of your many patrols with Haldir, he confessed his love in this very clearing. He held your hands in his, kissed your knuckles and each of your fingers. He whispered in a longing of gentle song that soothed your nerves and calmed your soul. In that moment, you didn’t want anyone else, you only wished for him.
But how things change.
“It is etched upon my heart,” you answer truthfully.
Haldir’s silver hair shines like starlight. “I’d like to stay here. My memories of this place are happy ones.”
The two of you have come to this clearing on multiple occasions. It is no coincidence that Haldir’s patrol includes you. He selects you on purpose, and you go with him willingly because you desire the closeness. It will not last forever, not when you’re promised to another.
“We can only linger here for so long,” you remind him.
Haldir sighs heavily, and turns to face you. He has always been stoic. Calm. Even in your presence, even when he whispered gentle words of love to you, Haldir never appeared…desperate.
The look on his face now is anything but calm. It is intense—a billowing storm tightly contained.
“Stop looking at me like that,” you murmur, startled by the sudden change.
Haldir’s gaze goes to your lips, lingers, and then flicks up to your eyes. “Why do you deny yourself what you want?” he asks.
You swallow and tuck your clenched fist behind your back. Haldir’s directness is too much. He knows that this is not of your own choosing.
“You cannot ask this of me,” you answer, hating yourself for sounding so weak.
Haldir entirely shifts his body in your direction. Taking a step forward, he moves into your space. Your back bumps up against the tree next to you. Haldir places his hand against the trunk next to your head.
You are trapped, but by all the stars in the night sky, you do not care.
His scent is woodsy and clean. You lean in a bit, inhaling, attempting to remember his smell since this might be your last opportunity to do so.
“You stay loyal to him.” Haldir bends at the elbow, pressing in. “And yet you know that he lusts after another.” The center of his brow furrows slightly. “Why not be with someone who will always worship you?”
Him. Him, meaning, your betrothed. The one you’re supposed to be with in the end. The selection made for you. This is an expectation placed upon you.
And Haldir is right. He does not love you. While you intend to be loyal in your upcoming marriage, you also know his heart will yearn for another. But you also yearn for someone else, and Haldir is standing right here, questioning all of this, wanting to know why you won’t pick him.
“Sometimes duty comes before happiness,” you reply softly, gaze cast downward.
“Does it?” he counters quickly.
You keep your face turned toward the ground. Stare at your feet.
The two of you have lain in this clearing, limbs draped over and around each other. There has always been closeness between the two of you. There has always been touching, skin pressed to skin, lips brushing but never fully meeting. Yet, the two of you have never completed the act itself.
That is binding. That is forever.
But you see it in Haldir’s eyes now as you sneak a peek of him. That desperate hunger. The desire to be with one person for the end of your days. It is an arrow through the heart, piercing and sharp and stinging.
You wish to satiated it, to admit to what you want most in this world. Because it is him. It is Haldir that you crave more than anyone else.
“I would be breaking my oath,” you reply softly, finally having the courage to look at him directly.
“Would you?” he asks. “You have made no vow. You have created no bond. The choice is yours. Utterly.” He gestures at himself with his free hand. “And I am right here.”
With a shaking hand, you reach up to cradle his cheek. Haldir turns into your touch, sighing gently, and that snaps your resolve, dissolves it like the winter snows melting in the sun. Haldir must sense the change, because the two of you meet, lips finally joining in what they’ve been longing for.
He tastes perfect. Wonderful. A match made for the ages.
Haldir’s hand upon the tree departs, leaving the bark to encircle your waist, to draw your body against his. You do not resist. You surrender to him, opening like a flower, wanting nothing more than to forget all your fears and sorrows in this little clearing.
The night is long, but it is not forever. For now, the two of you can have this.
Haldir drags you even closer, pressing you firmly against him as he learns the contours of your lips. His hands discover the planes of your body, and yet it’s not enough for him. Haldir is charged like lightening across the sky.
The two of you have been denying these mutual feelings for far too long.
This is a tremor. Earth-shaking. A star bursting into dust.
Haldir guides you to the center of the clearing, easily removing his cloak with one hand. He breaks away a moment to lay it down on the dewy grass, reaching for you the moment it fans out to hold the two of you.
You sink down with him, buckles and straps, and armor disappearing as you go.
It is everything.
It is nothing.
It is all you need in the gentle dark.

LOTR/TH characters with an extroverted partner
a/n: guess who’s written something again!!! can you believe it? I hope to get back into writing a bit more 😁 thank you @goingtoladyworld for requesting this, it was a great idea and I enjoyed writing it 😘 if you like it, let me know, and consider reblogging so others can potentially see it too 💛
INCLUDES: Elrond (whichever version you want to imagine, will be fine), Aragorn, Thorin, Legolas, Haldir
Tumblr media
ELROND
is absolutely in love with your energy
admires how you carry yourself in social settings and how you can have a friendly conversation with basically anyone
sometimes he’s too overworked and tends to forget someone’s name or some basic information about them - then he always looks to you for help and appreciates it so much when you remind him of things like that
doesn’t at all mind being “in your shadow” in large groups, actually he enjoys the fact that you’re outgoing and everybody knows you and he can just be there with you
gets the tiniest bit jealous (or insecure-ish) when he sees how much people gravitate towards you and your shimmering energy, but he would never ever want you to change that about yourself
🎊
ARAGORN
actually it’s very convenient that an introverted KING has an extroverted partner to lean onto during royal functions or balls or such
he’s very dignified and he says what needs to be said, but someone has to take it up a notch, spice it up,  and it’s going to be YOU
if he is stuck in an awkward conversation or someone is annoying him needlessly, he will give you a “help me” kind of look
it almost makes you laugh because there’s this royal manly man who looks at you like a lost puppy, but of course you’re going to cut in and save his introverted ass
in case you ever feel a bit insecure about your personality or think that you’re “too much”, he will immediately reassure you with the kindest words and a decent amount of kisses
🎊
THORIN
in case you ever start to feel insecure and think that you’re being too loud, too much or anything like that, he will reassure you instantly and tell you how perfect you are to him + include a decent number of kisses, just in case
he will side eye anyone who comes up to him with something that he deems stupid or unnecessary… except for you
everyone is in awe of how your very presence makes him change his demeanor
many times he will complain and grunt about not wanting to go somewhere people-y (because he knows that many will want his attention), but as long as you’re there, he will survive
he literally refuses to go to any kind of social occasion without you (you are sunshine he is midnight rain)
if his words toward someone are harsh, you will expertly jump in and soften the blow and just quickly look at him with slight disapproval
🎊
LEGOLAS
he doesn’t overtly admit it, but he’s impressed by how you carry yourself and give your time and attention kindly to others, he considers it a valuable skill and is very thankful to have such a person as his partner to strike a balance
I don’t actually consider him that much of an introvert, he’s just… himself and a bit odd
he can go off on a tangent about something that randomly crosses his mind and then you have to be the one to save the situation, and rescue whoever is the poor soul that ended up listening to the elf’s poetic monologues
he doesn’t dislike socializing, but you’re the one who pushes for it more, and he’s very rarely going to refuse
you love to dance and he needs time to get comfortable enough to dance with you in front of others, and then he will absolutely not take his eyes off of you - you keep him grounded
🎊
HALDIR
when you’re feeling like being a tease, you enjoy making him only slightly flustered in front of others, whether it be through some comment you whisper to him, or through physical affection - he is more reserved in public and you respect that, but sometimes it’s just a little fun to make the tips of his ears go red
bestie he is SUFFERING in social situations
nearly a death grip on your arm half the time
you find it slightly amusing how mortified this elf gets if he needs to make a speech or confront somebody
he can’t believe how someone could ever be extroverted but, goodness, does he appreciate the way that you are!
will try to find any excuse to avoid socializing with people he doesn’t know well
breathes an absolute sigh of relief when you pick up a conversation that grew awkward because he was giving short, seemingly disinterested answers
in private, you will lovingly make fun of him for all of that, but you two complement each other nicely
🎊

A Broken Heart Must Be Healed On Its Own
Haldir of Lórien x Reader
Word Count: 2K Warnings: Angst
Author's Note: But the pairing of Galadriel's daughter and Haldir is just *mwah* perfection! -Thorne
**********************************************************************
It was, the first week of winter by the time she made it home from Erebor. The air had chilled considerably, and most mornings were covered in a fine layer of frost before the winter sun warmed the land. Lothlórien was never known to have true snowfall like other places, as Lady Galadriel’s magic, and the forest itself was an eternal spring and autumn, but sometimes, she would awaken in the mornings, when the moon was still in the sky, and tiny snowflakes would decorate the kingdom outside.
Oddly enough, it seemed winter had blessed Lothlorien with a bit of snowfall as she quietly crossed back into the realm and under the veil of her mother’s protection. Her heart still ached, as it would no doubt for centuries after, but even elves like she knew that sometimes, time healed even the deepest of wounds.
She arrived, greeting the elves who bowed for her and ascended the stairs to her mother and father’s chambers. As if her mother knew she was coming, and she did—always did, the eyes of Lady Galadriel met hers, and she all at once was overcome with a great grief, crystal tears filling her eyes as she dropped her bag and fell into her mother’s arms.
Lady Galadriel said nothing, save quiet hums as she caressed her daughter’s head, already knowing the tragedy that had befallen the land east of Mirkwood—word had always travelled fast, as did magic. The adventure was one her daughter had to go on, to find something of worth for herself, not in material items, but within her heart and soul, and she knew that her daughter had found it, even at the expense of such deep emotion.
It was quite a long while before the tears finally dried and she lay against her mother’s shoulder, no longer sniffling, but staring blankly at the land outside the arches. “I am deeply grieved, mother,” she whispered. “For my own loss, but the pain of my friends, grieves me too.”
“Yes,” Galadriel murmured.
“I wish I could take their pain from them. It hurts me that I cannot heal their hearts.” She shifted as much she could, trying to get closer to her mother. “What good is my ability to heal if I cannot heal the broken hearts of the ones I love?”
Her mother’s hand came up to cup her cheek, thumb brushing delicately over her skin. “Some pain we are meant to feel, hína nîn. It reminds us that we are alive.” Galadriel’s voice was soft but ever wise. “Your ability is to heal physical wounds, not the wounds of the heart. That is something someone must heal on their own.”
Pulling away, she looked at her mother, searching for something in her gaze and opened her mouth, but no words came out.
“I am proud of you though, hína nîn,” Galadriel said. “For you have done what was right. Stood up against evil in many forms to do justice. You have made us all here so honored.”
“I have only tried to live up to your own standard, mother,” she smiled halfheartedly, and Galadriel merely offered a smile of her own.
“You love has waited quite a long time for you to return home. Perhaps you should go and see him.” her mother gave her a knowing look. “It is, after all, the first time you have ever left with anger in your heart.”
She nodded, letting out a sigh. “I shall, but I would like to see father first. I wish for his comfort as well.”
Galadriel nodded, helping her daughter to her feet before taking her arm in hers, leading her to her father.
***
It was nightfall by the time she returned to the quarters she and her love shared. There was still an ache in her heart, but it had slowly begun to heal, as if the love from her mother and father was magic in and of itself. She pushed open the door, greeted by the sight of her husband bent over a desk, papers surrounding him as he rubbed at his temples and pinched the bridge of his nose. It reminded her of their last talk before she left.
“I simply mean I do not think this is a wise decision.”
“And I recognize this. Do not think that the mere danger of this quest is somehow beyond me, Haldir, or do you forget that I was once face to face with a terrible evil once?”
“That is not what I mean to say, and you know that.”
“I know what you mean. You do not want me going.”
“Of course I do not! You could die! Do you any how grieved all of Lórien would be if you did?”
“Life is not lived without its risks. This is something I must do.”
“Please, my love, do not go. I do not wish for you to put yourself into harm’s way as such where I cannot protect you.”
“I unfortunately cannot acquiesce to your desire, Haldir. I am leaving with Mithrandir at dawn.”
“I do not think you understand! You need—”
“Let go of my arm lest you lose it, Haldir.”
“…You have forgotten that you are no longer just your mother’s daughter. You are my wife. I am your husband. Your life is mine and mine yours. You are taking a risk without assessing my concerns and it is wrong. This is wrong. You, are wrong.”
“Then I will be wrong. But this is something I must do, and you will not stand in my way, husband or no.”
“Fine. Go then. If something befalls you so horrible that you do not come home to me, then you will know I was right.”
She huffed quietly and leaned against one of the pillars in their common room. “To think, my great, Marchwarden husband has met his final downfall, and it is not an enemy blade, but reports.”
Haldir jumped at her voice, startled eyes meeting hers as he rose from the desk, fingers touching the papers, but he didn’t move from behind it. “You—” he fell silent, gathering himself as his eyes became hidden. “I had heard you made it back to Lórien.”
“Yes,” she said, walking over to where a glass pitcher was; she poured two glasses of crimson wine and held it out for him. “Forgive the delay, I had to see Mithrandir and Bilbo back to the Shire.”
He came around the desk and took the glass but didn’t drink from it even as he watched her do so. “I heard of what happened…the battle…the dwarves. To think that you were in the middle of such a battle, I—I cannot even begin to fathom such a fearsome sight.”
She blinked slowly, gazing out towards the night. “Yes…a great sadness it was. My heart weeps for my loss and for my friend’s losses too.”
“Meleth nîn,” he begged. “For what purpose did you go on this adventure? Was such grief and sadness worth it?”
Looking at him, she smiled with great sorrow. “You still have yet to understand.” She turned, sitting on the bench, and gestured for him to do so; when he did, she rested her head on his shoulder. “Losing someone I love, is something I know well.”
“Your sister…”
“Mhm. But the loss of my sister is different from the loss of Thorin, Fili, and Kili. That was a loss I was not familiar with. That of losing a friend. Someone who I shared values, hopes, and great friendships with.”
Haldir was confused. “You went on this journey…so you would know what it was like to lose a friend?”
“You have lost friends before, Haldir. You know what it is like to grieve a fallen brother or sister in arms.”
“Well, yes, but—"
“You have no doubt heard of my mother and brother-in-law’s battle in Dol Guldur. Sauron has returned. Perhaps not in full form just yet like he was ages earlier, but he will come back to great power soon. Loss of many things and people we hold dear is coming, my life. I wished to be prepared for that loss before it happened.” She sighed heavily, feeling the dull ache in her chest again. “But my poor heart was not as prepared as I thought for the losses of my much-loved dwarves. There is a deep pit within my heart, not only for my own loss, but for the feeling of grief that my other friends felt.”
He took her hand in his and thumbed the back of it. “I am sorry for your loss, my love. I wish it is a pain I could carry for you.”
She hummed low in her throat and turned her head up, looking at him. “Haldir, my husband, I ask your forgiveness. In the end, you were right. I am my mother’s daughter, but I am also your wife. And I should have heeded your concerns more cautiously. I am sorry I did not, and that I hurt you. Of all my grief, hurting you is what has caused me the most pain. I never meant to, and I am so sorry.”
Haldir tipped his head to the side, a sad but fond look on his face as he smiled and replied, “Then I must ask your forgiveness as well. I should not have taken my anger out and spoken ill of your journey. To be so jaded to you…it was unworthy of someone who is to love you wholeheartedly.”
Lady Galadriel was the only one on Middle Earth to have seen the trees, but Haldir swore sometimes he could see them in her daughter’s eyes, like now as she smiled at him and leaned forward, nuzzling her nose to his.
“Melin gin, Haldir,” she whispered, and he closed his eyes, reaching up to cup her cheek, once more so glad to hold his wife in his arms.
“And I you, meleth nîn, from this age, to the next, and until the end of all time.” He gently tipped her head up and pressed his lips to hers. “I prayed for your safety every day,” he murmured as he pulled back, resting his forehead to hers. “I watched as you left the forest and all I thought was that I said such horrid things and I had no way of knowing if your journey would be your last.”
She hummed and he opened his eyes, gazing into hers as she professed, “Not even all the hellish forces of Utumno could keep me from coming back to you, Haldir.” Pulling away, she rose from the bench, stood before him, and held out her hands, waiting for him to place his in hers. As he did, she squeezed them tight. “I swear to you, here and now, under the light of my mother’s forest, I will never again stray so far that you do not know where I will go. And should I go, then we shall go together.”
Haldir stood to his feet, a burning passion in his chest as he wrapped his arms around her. “And I to you, that I will never again let you go alone. Wherever we go, we go together.” He smiled so widely at her, taking her face in his hands. “I have missed you so greatly, meleth nîn.”
“And I you, my life.” She pulled them towards the bed. “Rest with me and in the morning, I shall tell you all about my adventure.”
“I do not wish to cause grief, my love.”
“You will not,” she promised. “Besides, there and back? It is a tale worth telling for many ages to come.” Her eyes twinkled. “I fought against many things. Orcs, spiders, dragons. So many.”
“Did you win?”
“Of course!”
They fell into bed and Haldir held her as she snuggled into his chest; kissing her head, he said softly, “Rest, meleth nîn. I will watch for you.”

Hi Mina! Love your blog ❤️ I was wondering what do you think it would be like to court Haldir?
I had forgotten about this ask sitting under a pile of other asks in my inbox for months 😓. Terribly sorry😖.
I'm no expert on Haldir (hence I don't write for him) even though I used to swoon when I saw him appear on the screen because 😍. However, I'll take a tiny shot at this.
Courting Haldir
Tumblr media
Because he's the Marchwarden and constantly busy patrolling and defending the borders, your time with him will be limited, yet worthwhile. He would ensure every second spent (once he made up his mind to genuinely court you) was worth him asking you to be his.
His idea of a date might be simple—too simple—and would require the assistance from his brothers. Though, he regrets asking for help because they suggest ideas out of his comfort zone.
Most of his dates are walks through the forest or attending small feasts held in honour of the Lord and Lady. There are times he'd request if you two can dwell indoors and relax watching the sunrise or sunset and exchanging stories.
Because he's so busy, flowers are a thing he forgets to bring along. He would remember everything else but the flowers. Funny thing, he would have spent hours consulting with the botanist for the best bouquet to express his affection and then left it at home.
I can see him spending lots of his time reading, so you would also spend moments like this. The both of you curled up beside the fireplace or beside the window, listening to him read poetry or stories.
He is sweet and gentle, perhaps a little out of touch with romance given his dedication towards protecting his home, but give him time with the assistance of his brothers and he'll come around more smoothly.

IATCOD Chap. 27; Celestial help
*Author's note*
Okay I'll be honest I've had this chapter done for awhile now but some life changing news came my way and I had to put posting on hold (don't worry it's not health wise, my family and I are moving by mid Dec. so I've been busy packing my stuff, helping move stuff to storage, etc.) But now with the thanksgiving holiday in it's final stretch, I wanted to take this moment to post this chapter up before the final stretch of my move happens next weekend. So I hope everyone had a good thanksgiving/thursday (if you don't celebrate it) and will continue to have a good rest of your weekend and hope everyone enjoys this new update as well.

________________________________________________________
So fair even in death, Hela’s friends and even the people of Gondor couldn’t find it in themselves to bury her.  So she was placed at the highest room at the Tower of Ecthelion where she once stood guard as Guardian of the White city.  Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Merry, Pippin, and Gandalf all stood around her coffin of glass and silver.
No one spoke a word, for who could? There wasn’t anything anyone could say that would bring Hela back.  Two lit candles were lit by the two top poles of her coffin.  Gimli was torn between anger and sorrow as he stared down at Hela’s body before turning away sobbing into his hand.  Legolas wrapped a comforting arm around his Dwarvish friend while tears slowly slid down his face as well.
Gandalf solemnly looked down at his old friend, the young Celestial who he had not only taken under his wing, but had also learned from her.  He placed a hand on top of her still one.  Poor Merry and Pippin were the ones truly heartbroken, Hela was like a mother-figure to them and got them from getting into too much trouble.  They couldn’t understand how such a strong warrior like her could’ve been killed like this?
And Aragorn—he was torn.  His heart torn both ways of wanting to both mourn Hela but also seek vengeance against the three council members of Denethor.  He wanted to know who had cast the spell, and see with his own eyes the life drain from his sister’s killer under his blade.
Meanwhile down in the House of Healing in a secluded area of a spiritual healing pool that Hela herself had made for those in great need of healing, Haldir laid in the tub while Cain tended to his wounds.
The water glowed a pure blue light and the light seemed to shimmer as it went in circles around the perimeter of the tub, almost as if a current were pushing it.  Cain held a rag in his hand and was gently dabbing across Haldir’s wounds while his other hand stroked across his body to feel what other damage had been done to him.
“This pool seems to be sensing a lot of internal damage. It can guide the healing process, but whether you get better or not is up to you.” Haldir didn’t speak a word.  His face was stoic, his eyes deeply sunken in and the light from his eyes was almost completely faded.  “I know what it’s like to lose the love of your life. When I awoke that day after losing my wife and children, I was lost, angry, filled with unbearable pain. And it’s okay to feel those things Haldir, but it’s not okay to keep it bottled up inside. Trust me.”
Again, Haldir spoke not a word.  Cain sighed but continued with the healing until he couldn’t smell a single trace of blood and grim on Haldir anymore.
“I don’t wish to push you Haldir but I’d like you to tell me what happened over there. Perhaps there could be a reason as to why they targeted Hela.” The sound of Haldir rising from the pool and walking over to redress himself.
“There’s nothing to say.” Haldir spoke so softly it would almost sound like the faint sounds of the wind blowing.  But Cain heard him.
“I understand it’s hard to talk about……”
“Hard to talk about? What is there to talk about?!” gradually Haldir’s voice got louder with pain and rage as he began to rant.  “Three dark sorcerers captured me as bait to lure Hela away from the city and I watched as they beat her like a horse! She was still alive in my arms, I felt her heart beating still…..But now I’m told I was able to be saved by your teachings WHEN YOU COULDN’T EVEN HEAL YOUR OWN SISTER IN THE SAME MANNER!!”
Silence rang out in the room as Haldir glared down at Cain in fury.  His chest heaving and heart racing.  Cain’s surprised but sorrow-filled face stared at the grieving Marchwarden.  When Haldir realized what he had said, he turned his head away and said regretfully.
“That came out wrong, I—I’m sorry.”
“It’s alright. As I said, let the anger and pain flow like water.”
“I’m trying to understand myself just why this all happened, but none of it makes any sense. The way they fought against her it—they enjoyed tormenting her. I could see it in their eyes, they took pleasure in it. Same as when they tortured me. I—I’m lost Lord Cain. I feel so lost.” Haldir fell to his knees and could feel the stinging sensation of tears starting to form but they couldn’t fall for Haldir had cried himself to near exhaustion after he had awakened from Nergal’s attack.
“Haldir,” he felt Cain’s hand on his shoulder and looked up to see the now last of the Celestials kneeling before him, his glowing eyes piercing his very soul but his voice was a calm and soothing like honey.  “I know you’re hurting right now, but you’re not the only one here who is mourning for Hela. How do you think Merry and Pippin are feeling to have lost the woman they have known since they were children? How do you think Aragorn and Gandalf are feeling at losing a friend they have known for centuries all together? And me? I am her brother who has only come to know her for only 80 years, but she is still my sister. The rest of my kin are either dead or have been turned to stone.”
“I—didn’t even think of that. I could remember the halfling that came with us, his cries could’ve rivaled mine in mourning.”
“But we can’t let this destroy our spirits.” Cain told him.  “Back when Hela became the last of our kin, she could’ve chosen to run. Isolate herself and never be seen by a single soul. Instead, she chose to continue the fight to protect and serve Middle Earth. And that’s what we all need to do now.”
“You’re speaking as if she is still here.”
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned from Hela, it’s that the ones that we lose never truly leave us. They are all around us, not just in our hearts and memories, but through how we are shaped. What we chose to do after they are gone.” Haldir looked at Cain and then said.
“I believe it would be wise for you all to hear just what happened at Minas Morgul.” Cain nodded then he and Haldir left the spiritual healing pool and headed towards the throne room.
Cain had sent a telepathic message to the others who all met with him and Haldir and Haldir began to explain to them what had occurred at Minas Morgul.
“I didn’t know how it happened at first, but all I know was that I couldn’t control my own limbs. I tried to fight against it, but it was no use. Next thing I knew I awoke chained up surrounded by darkness. Most of the stories I’ve been told of torture methods of orcs, goblins and even men, they—were nothing compared to what I went through. Some form of liquid was given to me by force, not to drink you see, but they poured it onto my skin. The very burning sensation was unlike anything I’ve felt before. For 2 full days I couldn’t move my own finger.”
“What did this liquid look like?” asked Aragorn.
“It was as silver as Mithril but as thick as blood. At times it almost seemed alive as it soaked into my skin, moving through my veins like a worm.”
“I have seen that type of liquid from time to time.” Faramir’s voice spoke up.  “I’ve seen Nergal create this potion that he’ll use on some of the prisoners and traitors of Gondor. The screams I’ve heard from some of the men he’s used it on, they were unlike anything I’ve ever heard. Some claim to have felt like they were burning from the inside out.”
“Durin’s beard.” Gimli muttered grimly shaking his head.  Even though he had a distrust towards Elves and even Haldir, not even he would wish something like that upon an elf.
“Did they say as to why they wanted Hela?” asked Cain.
“All Perses kept saying was that she needed to surrender to the power she had been given.”
“What does that mean?” asked Merry.
“She did.” Pippin soon spoke up.  Everyone turned to the young hobbit as he continued, “when Hela found the guards who had taken you to Minas Morgul. She did something to those guards. Just like you had described Mr. Haldir, it was like she had possessed them with a wave of her hands. It was frightening. I’ve never seen Hela do something like that before, not even when this journey began.”
“Perses even said it that it had to be intoxicating. The feeling of having someone’s life in her hands.”
“Hela has always had the potential to do great good or great evil.” Gandalf explained.  “Being the only Celestial of death, she was put to the test to see how a Celestial could deal with such a burden. For only one other person had the power over the dead and was more powerful than she was.”
“Sauron.” Aragorn and Legolas both answered together.
“Yes. But we must also remember a greater threat is coming. Without Hela, the Deviants will return.”
“How exactly did Hela defeat them all? When we used to ask her about that as children, she always diverted from the real answer and told us to not worry about it.” Said Merry.
“She didn’t defeat them.” Cain responded.  “The deviants had grown too strong and too numerous for her to handle. So she went to Mirkwood to seek council with Legolas’ father Thranduil. There he had given her a spell that could seal them deep beneath the seas. By using her blood she drew the gate, and with her lifeforce it became the key. She has lived the last 248 years as a walking key. But if she was ever slain in battle, the gateway would become accessible, on the day she sealed them away. Which is in three days from now.”
“Three days from now is also when Smaug had sacked Dale and took claim over Erebor. No wonder she said something else besides a dragon had needed her attention.” Gimli said.
“Now all they would need to do is wait for the red sun to rise on the third day, the seas will open and the gateway will be revealed.” Cain pinched the bridge of his nose sighing heavily.
“Even if you were there to help her Cain, you would’ve been turned to stone just like the rest of your kin. If not killed since you aren’t a Celestial.” Aragorn assured him, knowing that Cain was blaming himself for not being there for his sister.
“So how do we defeat them?” asked Pippin.
“We can’t.” Gandalf said solemnly.  “Sauron created the Deviants to only be taken down by the Celestials themselves.”
“We may not be able to defeat them, but there might be a way to hold them off.” Faramir said.  “I’ve noticed in a room just before reaching the dungeons there is a large rune of protection. Runes that I’ve only seen in the tales of the Celestial. Hela must’ve made it long ago when the deviants still roamed these lands. If we can somehow activate the spell that powers it, we might be able to create a barrier to protect us for a time.”
“Take me to these runes Faramir and I’ll work out the spell from there.” Faramir nodded then he and Gandalf left the throne room.
“Meanwhile the rest of us have to evacuate the city. The people have already been caught in the crossfires of the armies of Mordor, for them the Deviants would be a fate worse than death.” Aragorn said.
“Where will we take them? Osgiliath is in runes.” Pippin said.
“We will take them deep underground. Hela once showed me in the days of old when war came to this city, back when Sauron was still in power. There is a place large enough for the women and children to seek shelter in. Much like the caves back at Helm’s Deep. It’ll be safe and enforced to keep them alive while we handle the beasts in the city.” Everyone nodded to the King of Gondor and they began to prepare for evacuation and protection.
Legolas and Haldir (along with Eowyn’s assistance) helped the healers take the injured down to the lower levels first since they would need time to be moved and knowing that the Deviants always went for the vulnerable and the weak.  Gimli, Merry and Pippin helped the cooks and servants with the food rations that would need to be taken down, and Aragorn made the proclamation to the people of Gondor that they would need to prepare to go underground.
He told them that they would need to gather only what they needed and be prepared to move by the time of the second nightfall.   All the awhile Cain was back up at the tower of Ecthelion and he looked down at Hela.
He still couldn’t hear her heartbeat and yet he could still feel that her body was warm.
“We’re evacuating the civilians to the lower levels you helped made Hela. I promise, we’re going to hold them off for as long as we can. I may not have my Celestial power anymore, but Celestial blood still runs through my veins. And in your honor, I swear to you I will not let the white city fall to the Deviants.”
As he turned to leave the tower, Cain could almost hear a faint voice calling out.  He knew it wasn’t anyone out in Gondor calling out for this voice said something in both his and Hela’s Celeste language.  He felt around and soon pulled out the bag that Hela had given him that held half of their kin’s power stones.  He touched the bag and he could feel the strong aura of power emanating from the bag within.
“Druig.” He softly said.  He raced out of the tower and reached out to the others and told them to meet him at the throne room, and fast.
When the Fellowship, Haldir, and Faramir were in the throne room Cain had said.
“When I first met Hela to help her regain her spiritual connection to our kins celestial power stones, I’ve always felt a stronger presence within her brother Druig’s stone. Now him being a Celestial of the Mind, I believed it to be just his raw power alone, but I should’ve known better. A big brother, especially a twin, will always find a way.”
“What are you talking about laddie? Speak in words that don’t sound like riddle talk.” Gimli said.
“What I’m saying Gimli is that Druig didn’t just surrender all of his power into the Celestial gem, he also surrendered a part of his subconsciousness in here as well. Hidden away from even Hela until the right moment.”
“So you’re saying that Druig’s mind is inside his stone and he wants to come out now?” asked Pippin.
“Aye. And perhaps with his help, we can find a way to defeat the Deviants once and for all.
“I did always hear a voice for a time when Hela first came to me as a hawk. Translating every cry and squawk she made until I began to pick it up. And it happened right after I had found her family’s celestial gems within a cave not too far from the borders of Bree.” Aragorn spoke up, siding with Cain’s suggestion.
“But how do we get him to come out? Hela always warned us that if anyone unworthy touched a celestial gem, bad things would happen.” Merry said.
“Yes, and Druig is not one to trust people so easily. Especially those of the world of Men and Elves. Thought Men were too arrogant and Elves were too hotheaded. No offense.”
“I wouldn’t blame him for that.” Said Aragorn.
“Neither would I.” Faramir agreed.
“What about us? Hobbits have never been much for gold or riches. Do you think Druig would come out for one of us?” asked Pippin.  Cain and Gandalf looked to each other and Gandalf said.
“Your ancestors came long after Druig had been turned to stone. I wouldn’t see why he wouldn’t try. Being of the Mind he’ll see no ill intent within either of you.”
“Do you both know how to summon him?” asked Cain.
“Hela taught us all the calls to each of her siblings and her mother. We got this Master Cain.” Merry assured him.  He nodded then he and Gandalf told the others to stand back.  Cain took the bag and slowly turned it upside down and out came out Druig’s stone which was now glowing a golden light around the onyx black stone.
Cain backed away as Merry and Pippin stood on either side over Druig’s stone.
“Ready Merry?” asked Pippin.
“Ready Pip.” Answered Merry.  Together the two hobbits did Druig’s Celestial bow (pressing their hands together they had their thumbs, index and tall fingers touching each other while their other two fingers rested in the empty spaces between their fingers. Then they touched the center of their foreheads with the tip of their index and tall finger before resting them back in front of their chests).  The together they spoke Druig’s prayer.
“Oh He who was first of the Second Age Celestials. The first of the pair of three. The trinity that is of Mind, Body and Soul we ask thee of the power of the Mind. Celestial Druig, we call to you!” as they spoke, the gem began to glow brighter and brighter until it shone almost as powerful as the sun.  Until it suddenly stopped.
And nothing happened.
Everyone was confused.
“Did they say it right?” asked Gimli.
“Yes. I don’t understand, it should’ve worked. I’ve heard this prayer a thousand times whenever he, Hela and Makkari made it.” Said Cain.
“Maybe they didn’t……” Gimli continued but then a powerful beam of light shot out from Druig’s gem and red magic began to swarm around both Merry and Pippin.  Their arms were pinned behind their backs, they were lifted midway off the ground and around their temples a golden light shined as they felt their heads almost being squeezed.
The hobbits let out a pained scream and as the others readied their weapons and Cain called out their names.  But they too were soon consumed by the red magic, lifted just a few inches off the ground, their arms trapped at their sides.  Another light burst out from the gem but this time a figure began to take shape.
A translucent figure, almost like a ghost now stood forward, his pupils glowing a pure gold while his right hands glowed with the same red magic that now surrounded them.  He had long, wavy brown hair that came to his shoulders, like most ghosts and apparitions that appear in the Seen world, his lower half was none existent.  The black and red celestial armor was a given fact to the others that this was indeed Druig’s spirit that had been put into the stone.

He turned towards the hobbits and spoke in a voice that was both warm as honey but a deep as thunder.
“How did you both know to say that prayer? Only two people in all existence know those words.”
“Miss Hela taught it to us. She told us all about you, her and Makkari Mr. Druig sir.” Pippin said before letting out a cry as the glowing at his temples brightened feeling his head was about to explode.
“You may be familiar with the stories of me and my sisters but I don’t recall seeing your kind before. Who are you and why do you seek my power?”
“We’re Hobbits. Halflings. Shire folk. Please Lord Druig we need your help.” Merry said through the pain in his head.
“They speak the truth Druig.” Cain said.  Druig turned towards the others and he straightened up.
“None but my family dare say my name alone.” He raised his right hand and as he floated towards the others, he made a ‘come hither’ motion with his right index finger to bring Merry and Pippin along with him.  “There is something about you in your head, you’re clearly immortal but you are not of Elven blood nor like this Ranger here.”
“When you were younger, you once heard Orion and Delta speak about a fallen Celestial. A Celestial of their own power, but they spoke his name in a hushed curse. So you went to Phastos and Apollo to know what they were referring to, but Thena intervened before they could speak and told you the story of Cain the Wrathful.”
“And he is you. Cain the Wrathful? The fallen Celestial of Starlight.” Cain nodded.  “And just what does an exile? Two elves? A Dwarf? A wizard? Two hobbits? And two Dúnedain Men want with my power?”
“We don’t want your power for gain or conquest. We need your help. I’ve sensed your spirit within your gemstone ever since Hela came to me. As an older brother myself I know what it’s like to worry over your younger siblings. The spell you must’ve used could only activate when Hela was in dire need of help. And now she is.”
“What trouble has befallen my sweet, sweet Hela?” at the mention of his twin sister’s name.  He released everyone from his spell, his eyes reverting back to the deep brown.  When no one spoke he demanded, his voice now becoming like the deep thunder it truly could be, “SPEAK!!”
“Hela is……she’s……She has fallen.” Aragorn spoke solemnly.  Druig’s face went from anger to sorrow as he shook his head.  His eyes widened in disbelief.
“Take me to her.”
“Druig…..” Cain started but Druig snapped.
“Please!” his thunderous voice cracked in sorrow.  Most people think that ghosts and spirits can’t shed a tear, but everyone saw for themselves that even a spirit can still cry as a single tear fell at the corner of Druig’s face and slid down his chin before disappearing into thin air as it fell from his chin.
“Can you freely move without your stone or……” Gimli started to say.
“I need to be within range of her.” He turned to the hobbits and told them, “You both knew the prayer to summon me, I’ll freely allow one of you to carry my stone.”
“I’ll do it.” Volunteered Merry.  Druig gave him a soft nod then in a flash of light, Druig’s spirit disappeared and the light from Druig’s black stone dimmed until it was once again a simple black gemstone.  Merry walked over and picked it up. “It feels smooth, like a pebble but almost as cool as water. Huh, who would’ve thought after all these years of wondering what these gems felt like, it’d be that.”
“Best not keep him waiting.” Faramir suggested.  Everyone then headed back for the tower of Ecthelion where Hela lied in her bed.  Merry set them gemstone onto the floor and once again the gem glowed and Druig’s spirit reappeared before them.
When he caught sight of his twin sister on the bed beaten and scarred, he couldn’t believe that over 3000 years on her own, she’d fallen like this.
“How?” was all Druig could muster.  Everyone turned to Haldir and he finally spoke.
“Three dark sorcerers used me to get to her. She fought as best as she could, but they proved to be stronger than she even with all her power.” Druig turned to Haldir and floated right up to the elf.  He raised his hands up and placed them on either side of Haldir’s head, his thumbs just barely touching the top of Haldir’s eyes.  Druig’s eyes glowed gold and he slowly bowed his head as he began to look inside Haldir’s mind.
There he saw and felt every ounce of pain both he and Hela had endured with Deimos. Nergal and Perses.  The poison they gave Haldir, every slice of Deimos’s sickles on both their bodies, the raw power of Perses’ hand-to-hand combat, and even the gas that had taken them both down.
Druig suddenly released Haldir and actually stumbled to the ground weak and in agony at what he had just felt.  He crawled across the room, Pippin took a step in concerned but was not only held back by Merry but Druig’s voice echoed with agony.
“DON’T TOUCH ME!!” Druig finally pressed his back to the wall and curled himself inward in agony.
“Mr. Druig? Are you—okay?” Merry asked hesitantly.
“I saw it.” he whispered brokenly.
“Saw what?” Merry asked again.
“I saw her through your eyes.” Druig looked to Haldir.  “Even after what they did to you, you still fought by her side?” Haldir looked down.
“I only wish I had fought harder. If I had not gotten captured, maybe there would’ve been a greater chance at stopping them. But they…..” Haldir’s breathing grew sharp and heavy as regret filled him once again.  Druig tilted his head and could feel Haldir’s emotions radiating even without needing to look back into his head.
“You’re the one she chose.” Druig stood back up and once again levitated before Haldir.  “She always did have an admiration for the Elves but never did I think she would choose one to be her One.” Druig then floated over to his sister’s body and whispered. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you little sister. But at least you didn’t pass on alone.” When Druig reached out to touch her head he softly gasped.
His sorrow turned perplex as his eyes began to glow gold.  He remained still as he stared down at his sister’s body, not once removing his hand from her head.
“Druig? What is it?” asked Cain.
“I have seen many corpses in my life, many slain warriors even of my own kin. But not a single dead body’s mind is as active as Hela’s is.” Druig said.
“What does that mean?” asked Pippin.
“Have you ever had that feeling when you feel like your trapped in a dream? Where your body is completely still yet your mind is screaming at you to wake up?” they all gave him a nod.  “I sense within her that while her body is unresponsive, her mind is as active as a bee’s hive. This is a spell unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.”
“So….Hela isn’t dead?” Pippin asked with a hint of hope in his voice.
“Not yet. This feels like her power but I’ve never known Hela to do something like this to someone.” Druig turned to his sisters friends and his exiled brother and asked.  “You said dark sorcerers did this to her, what did they look like?”
“I can show you.” Faramir stepped forward.  Druig floated over to him and like he did with Haldir, he placed his hands on either side of Faramir’s head, his thumbs just above the young Steward’s son’s eyes and there Druig saw the faces of Perses, Deimos and Nergal.  Druig let out a gasp, his eyes widened in shock as he shook his head.
“It—it couldn’t be. No, no, no, it can’t be.”
“Master Druig, you know these men?” asked Gandalf.
“Not physically but…..oh Irmo I can’t believe how foolish I was to do that to her!” Druig snapped in his anger and in his anger, his raw power caused several objects to fling across the room, some of them nearly taking out some of the men in the room.
“What Druig? What did you do?” asked Aragorn.
“You would think I was a fool after I tell you.”
“For Hela’s sake? I think I would’ve done the same if I had been in your place. Please Lord Druig, we have no answers and if there’s anything you can tell us, we need to know. Not for Middle Earth’s sake or ours, but your sister’s.” Druig looked into Aragorn’s eyes and saw nothing but the truth.  He could see just how much this mortal man cared for his sister like she was his own blood.
“Shortly after Sauron had created his Ring of Power, Hela used to wake up screaming. From these….awful dreams. She never wanted to speak about them but she allowed me to see them through her mind. And each time it was always the same dream. She dreamt of darkness and fire. She saw herself standing over the world as it burned to the ground, Her armor changed into one of iron, almost like the Dark Lord’s himself. But she wasn’t alone. At her side, there were three men in Celestial armor as well, but they weren’t any of ours, it was unlike anything I have ever seen Celestial armor be. And those men were the very same men I saw in your head.” He said pointing to Faramir.
Everyone was speechless at Druig’s confession.  This couldn’t be possible could it? Those men in Celestial armor?
“I-I didn’t know how to comfort her or reassure her so I-I……I erased those dreams from her head. Each time until she didn’t dream of them anymore.” Druig scoffed.  “To think she was seeing the future and I made her forget. She could’ve known not to trust them.”
“She did.” Haldir spoke.  Druig turned to the Marchwarden.  “She didn’t know how to explain it, but the moment she had met Perses first, she told me there was something both familiar yet evil about him. Sam goes for Nergal and Deimos. She knew not to trust them.”
“But why would she see those men in Celestial armor? I thought they were just evil wizards?” asked Pippin.
“It’s not possible. None but the Valar and the Celestial prime can create Celestials.” Said Gandalf.
“Her Celestial connection.” Cain muttered.  Everyone turned to him.  “When Sauron took possession over Hela, he didn’t just severe her connection to just the powers of our kin. She had lost her Celestial connection, in a way her aura was like how a mortal man’s is.”
“What do you mean Master Cain?” asked Merry.
“Celestials hold a certain aura that glows much like the Elves. When I first met Hela, I was shocked to see just how dim her Celestial aura was, it was like seeing the last specks of a campfire before it’s extinguished by a foot or dumping some dirt on top of it. It took the entire time she was with me to regain that Celestial glow that our kin is known for.”
“And Sauron’s servants did not kill all of our men. Some were said to have been taken straight into the Black Gates, never to be seen again. And those warriors that were said to have been taken were both strong bodied and strong-willed.” Faramir said.
“He’s deceived us all along. His plans for Hela, her powers, the councilmen of Denethor, it all makes sense now. Sauron didn’t want Hela’s powers for himself…..” Cain started fearfully.
“He wanted to harvest them.” Druig spoke grimly.
“Sauron has created his own Celestials of Death.” Suddenly thunder boomed from the sky but unlike storms in the past, the lightning that flashed from the sky was blood red.
“If they truly are Celestials of Death, then all is lost.” Gimli said.  “Lady Hela is a powerful Celestial, but with three Celestials of her own power on the side of our enemy, what hope do we have in stopping them? Especially when in three days’ time, they’ll bring back the Deviants.”
“That’s sometimes the trouble with your Dwarves that I’ll never understand.” Druig said.  Gimli grumbled under his breath offendedly.
“What do you mean?” asked Aragorn.
“I did say Hela is under a powerful spell, but all spells, no matter how powerful can be broken.”
“You mean you can break her free of that spell this whole time?” exclaimed Gimli.
“Not me, this is Hela’s magic working against her. Only she has the power to break this curse, but who’s to say she can’t do it without a little help?”
“What are you suggesting Druig?” asked Cain.
“If I can send my spirit deep into Hela’s subconscious, I might be able to help her break free of whatever imprisonment this spell has on her. But in order to counteract a spell this powerful, I need a host body to use my power.” Druig gave a small smirk for he already had chosen who he wanted to use his power.
“No Druig, absolutely not!” Cain immediately said.
“I didn’t even say who I’ve chosen!” Druig exclaimed.
“But I know who you’re thinking of choosing! And I can’t watch as his body is destroyed by your power!” he walked out of the tower and headed down the stairs.
As Cain trudged down the stairs in a huff, Druig’s spirit suddenly appeared before him and he demanded.
“Do you want to be responsible for what is to come next if we choose to do nothing?”
“You don’t understand Druig. Merry and Eowyn both went up against the second greatest threat the third Age has ever known. More dangerous than even Smaug. The Witch King of Angmar is not a foe to be taken lightly, they were both lucky to have come back with their sanity still intact.”
“I’ve seen through Hela’s eyes how the Black breath is and how dangerous Angmar was to Middle Earth. But it doesn’t change the fact that out of anyone in that room, Meriadoc Brandybuck shows more promise in wielding my power. And if you don’t let him and I find a way to help Hela, then Middle Earth will be nothing but shadow and stone.”
Cain’s breathing deepened as he crossed his arms, his body fidgeting with anxiety.  He cursed that Druig was right, even he could sense that Merry was meant for something greater, even greater than aiding in helping to defeat the Witch King himself.
“This is his decision. Not yours. If he says no, you will not use your mind manipulation to force him to help you.”
“And if he agrees, then you keep your mouth shut and let us do our work, while you do yours. Without Hela, the Deviants will go for any and all traces of life force to sustain themselves. And you’re the only one with enough knowledge on how to take them down. Deal, brother?” Druig held out his hand.
Cain then reached out and was actually able to grab onto Druig’s hand as the two brothers shook on it.
“If any harm comes to that Hobbit, you’ll see why I was given the name Cain the Wrathful.”
“And you’ll see that when it comes to my twin sisters, I’m not afraid to break the rules and risk banishment for their safety.” Druig’s eyes glowed red in warning.
